Programs & Examples On #Bbc glow

Glow is a JavaScript library which aims to make working with JavaScript and the DOM easier. It tries to do this by abstracting common tasks, hiding cross-browser issues, and providing a set of user interface widgets.

Make one div visible and another invisible

If u want to use display=block it will make the content reader jump, so instead of using display you can set the left attribute to a negative value which does not exist in your html page to be displayed but actually it do.

I hope you must be understanding my point, if I am unable to make u understand u can message me back.

Compare object instances for equality by their attributes

With Dataclasses in Python 3.7 (and above), a comparison of object instances for equality is an inbuilt feature.

A backport for Dataclasses is available for Python 3.6.

How do I disable text selection with CSS or JavaScript?

I'm not sure if you can turn it off, but you can change the colors of it :)

myDiv::selection,
myDiv::-moz-selection,
myDiv::-webkit-selection {
    background:#000;
    color:#fff;
}

Then just match the colors to your "darky" design and see what happens :)

How to extract string following a pattern with grep, regex or perl

this could do it:

perl -ne 'if(m/name="(.*?)"/){ print $1 . "\n"; }'

How to build a Debian/Ubuntu package from source?

First, the title question: Assuming the debian directory is already there, be in the source directory (the directory containing the debian directory) and invoke dpkg-buildpackage. I like to run it with these options:

dpkg-buildpackage -us -uc -nc

which mean don't sign the result and don't clean.

How can I check if I have listed all the dependencies correctly?

Getting the dependencies is a black art. The "official" way is to check build depends is if the package builds with only the base system, the "build-essential" packages, and the build dependencies you have specified. Don't know a general answer for regular Dependencies, just wade in :)

How I can I prevent the update system installing the older version in the repo on an update? How I can prevent the system installing a newer version (when its out), overwriting my custom package?

My knowledge might be out of date on this one, but to address both: Use dpkg --set-selections. Assuming nullidentd was the package you wanted to stay put, run as root

echo 'nullidentd hold' | dpkg --set-selections

Alternately, since you are building from source, you can use an epoch to set the version number artificially high and never be bothered again. To use an epoch, add a new entry to the debian/changelog file, and put a 99: in front of the version number. Given my nullidentd example, the first line of your updated changelog would read:

nullidentd (99:1.0-4) unstable; urgency=low

Bernard's link is good, especially if you have to create the debian directory yourself - also helpful are the developers reference and the general resource page. Adam's link also looks good but I'm not familiar with it.

PostgreSQL: How to make "case-insensitive" query

You can also read up on the ILIKE keyword. It can be quite useful at times, albeit it does not conform to the SQL standard. See here for more information: http://www.postgresql.org/docs/9.2/static/functions-matching.html

Writing html form data to a txt file without the use of a webserver

i made a little change to this code to save entry of a radio button but unable to save the text which appears in text box after selecting the radio button.

the code is below:-

    <!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
<style>
form * {
  display: block;
  margin: 10px;
}
</style>
<script language="Javascript" >
function download(filename, text) {
  var pom = document.createElement('a');
  pom.setAttribute('href', 'data:text/plain;charset=utf-8,' +

encodeURIComponent(text));
  pom.setAttribute('download', filename);

  pom.style.display = 'none';
  document.body.appendChild(pom);

  pom.click();

  document.body.removeChild(pom);
}
</script>
</head>
<body>

<form onsubmit="download(this['name'].value, this['text'].value)">
  <input type="text" name="name" value="test.txt">

Style jQuery autocomplete in a Bootstrap input field

I don't know if you fixed it, but I did had the same issue, finally it was a dumb thing, I had:

<script src="jquery-ui/jquery-ui.min.css" rel="stylesheet">

but it should be:

<link href="jquery-ui/jquery-ui.min.css" rel="stylesheet">

Just change <scrip> to <link> and src to href

PHP function to generate v4 UUID

A slight variation on Jack's answer to add support for PHP < 7:

// Get an RFC-4122 compliant globaly unique identifier
function get_guid() {
    $data = PHP_MAJOR_VERSION < 7 ? openssl_random_pseudo_bytes(16) : random_bytes(16);
    $data[6] = chr(ord($data[6]) & 0x0f | 0x40);    // Set version to 0100
    $data[8] = chr(ord($data[8]) & 0x3f | 0x80);    // Set bits 6-7 to 10
    return vsprintf('%s%s-%s-%s-%s-%s%s%s', str_split(bin2hex($data), 4));
}

Entityframework Join using join method and lambdas

You can find a few examples here:

// Fill the DataSet.
DataSet ds = new DataSet();
ds.Locale = CultureInfo.InvariantCulture;
FillDataSet(ds);

DataTable contacts = ds.Tables["Contact"];
DataTable orders = ds.Tables["SalesOrderHeader"];

var query =
    contacts.AsEnumerable().Join(orders.AsEnumerable(),
    order => order.Field<Int32>("ContactID"),
    contact => contact.Field<Int32>("ContactID"),
    (contact, order) => new
    {
        ContactID = contact.Field<Int32>("ContactID"),
        SalesOrderID = order.Field<Int32>("SalesOrderID"),
        FirstName = contact.Field<string>("FirstName"),
        Lastname = contact.Field<string>("Lastname"),
        TotalDue = order.Field<decimal>("TotalDue")
    });

foreach (var contact_order in query)
{
    Console.WriteLine("ContactID: {0} "
                    + "SalesOrderID: {1} "
                    + "FirstName: {2} "
                    + "Lastname: {3} "
                    + "TotalDue: {4}",
        contact_order.ContactID,
        contact_order.SalesOrderID,
        contact_order.FirstName,
        contact_order.Lastname,
        contact_order.TotalDue);
}

Or just google for 'linq join method syntax'.

How to save public key from a certificate in .pem format

There are a couple ways to do this.

First, instead of going into openssl command prompt mode, just enter everything on one command line from the Windows prompt:

E:\> openssl x509 -pubkey -noout -in cert.pem  > pubkey.pem

If for some reason, you have to use the openssl command prompt, just enter everything up to the ">". Then OpenSSL will print out the public key info to the screen. You can then copy this and paste it into a file called pubkey.pem.

openssl> x509 -pubkey -noout -in cert.pem

Output will look something like this:

MySQL check if a table exists without throwing an exception

As a "Show tables" might be slow on larger databases, I recommend using "DESCRIBE " and check if you get true/false as a result

$tableExists = mysqli_query("DESCRIBE `myTable`");

Javascript "Not a Constructor" Exception while creating objects

In my case I was using the prototype name as the object name. For e.g.

function proto1()
{}

var proto1 = new proto1();

It was a silly mistake but might be of help to someone like me ;)

Is "else if" faster than "switch() case"?

Switch is generally faster than a long list of ifs because the compiler can generate a jump table. The longer the list, the better a switch statement is over a series of if statements.

Measuring execution time of a function in C++

  • It is a very easy to use method in C++11.
  • We can use std::chrono::high_resolution_clock from header
  • We can write a method to print the method execution time in a much readable form.

For example, to find the all the prime numbers between 1 and 100 million, it takes approximately 1 minute and 40 seconds. So the execution time get printed as:

Execution Time: 1 Minutes, 40 Seconds, 715 MicroSeconds, 715000 NanoSeconds

The code is here:

#include <iostream>
#include <chrono>

using namespace std;
using namespace std::chrono;

typedef high_resolution_clock Clock;
typedef Clock::time_point ClockTime;

void findPrime(long n, string file);
void printExecutionTime(ClockTime start_time, ClockTime end_time);

int main()
{
    long n = long(1E+8);  // N = 100 million

    ClockTime start_time = Clock::now();

    // Write all the prime numbers from 1 to N to the file "prime.txt"
    findPrime(n, "C:\\prime.txt");

    ClockTime end_time = Clock::now();

    printExecutionTime(start_time, end_time);
}

void printExecutionTime(ClockTime start_time, ClockTime end_time)
{
    auto execution_time_ns = duration_cast<nanoseconds>(end_time - start_time).count();
    auto execution_time_ms = duration_cast<microseconds>(end_time - start_time).count();
    auto execution_time_sec = duration_cast<seconds>(end_time - start_time).count();
    auto execution_time_min = duration_cast<minutes>(end_time - start_time).count();
    auto execution_time_hour = duration_cast<hours>(end_time - start_time).count();

    cout << "\nExecution Time: ";
    if(execution_time_hour > 0)
    cout << "" << execution_time_hour << " Hours, ";
    if(execution_time_min > 0)
    cout << "" << execution_time_min % 60 << " Minutes, ";
    if(execution_time_sec > 0)
    cout << "" << execution_time_sec % 60 << " Seconds, ";
    if(execution_time_ms > 0)
    cout << "" << execution_time_ms % long(1E+3) << " MicroSeconds, ";
    if(execution_time_ns > 0)
    cout << "" << execution_time_ns % long(1E+6) << " NanoSeconds, ";
}

How to get UTC time in Python?

Try this code that uses datetime.utcnow():

from datetime import datetime
datetime.utcnow()

For your purposes when you need to calculate an amount of time spent between two dates all that you need is to substract end and start dates. The results of such substraction is a timedelta object.

From the python docs:

class datetime.timedelta([days[, seconds[, microseconds[, milliseconds[, minutes[, hours[, weeks]]]]]]])

And this means that by default you can get any of the fields mentioned in it's definition - days, seconds, microseconds, milliseconds, minutes, hours, weeks. Also timedelta instance has total_seconds() method that:

Return the total number of seconds contained in the duration. Equivalent to (td.microseconds + (td.seconds + td.days * 24 * 3600) * 10*6) / 10*6 computed with true division enabled.

Remove all files in a directory

This will get all files in a directory and remove them.

import os

BASE_DIR = os.path.dirname(os.path.abspath(__file__))
dir = os.path.join(BASE_DIR, "foldername")

for root, dirs, files in os.walk(dir):
  for file in files:
    path = os.path.join(dir, file)
    os.remove(path)

How can I apply a function to every row/column of a matrix in MATLAB?

I can't comment on how efficient this is, but here's a solution:

applyToGivenRow = @(func, matrix) @(row) func(matrix(row, :))
applyToRows = @(func, matrix) arrayfun(applyToGivenRow(func, matrix), 1:size(matrix,1))'

% Example
myMx = [1 2 3; 4 5 6; 7 8 9];
myFunc = @sum;

applyToRows(myFunc, myMx)

Check if a String contains a special character

//without using regular expression........

    String specialCharacters=" !#$%&'()*+,-./:;<=>?@[]^_`{|}~0123456789";
    String name="3_ saroj@";
    String str2[]=name.split("");

    for (int i=0;i<str2.length;i++)
    {
    if (specialCharacters.contains(str2[i]))
    {
        System.out.println("true");
        //break;
    }
    else
        System.out.println("false");
    }

Jackson serialization: ignore empty values (or null)

Or you can use GSON [https://code.google.com/p/google-gson/], where these null fields will be automatically removed.

Predicate in Java

Adding up to what Micheal has said:

You can use Predicate as follows in filtering collections in java:

public static <T> Collection<T> filter(final Collection<T> target,
   final Predicate<T> predicate) {
  final Collection<T> result = new ArrayList<T>();
  for (final T element : target) {
   if (predicate.apply(element)) {
    result.add(element);
   }
  }
  return result;
}

one possible predicate can be:

final Predicate<DisplayFieldDto> filterCriteria =
                    new Predicate<DisplayFieldDto>() {
   public boolean apply(final DisplayFieldDto displayFieldDto) {
    return displayFieldDto.isDisplay();
   }
  };

Usage:

 final List<DisplayFieldDto> filteredList=
 (List<DisplayFieldDto>)filter(displayFieldsList, filterCriteria);

Yahoo Finance All Currencies quote API Documentation

From the research that I've done, there doesn't appear to be any documentation available for the API you're using. Depending on the data you're trying to get, I'd recommend using Yahoo's YQL API for accessing Yahoo Finance (An example can be found here). Alternatively, you could try using this well documented way to get CSV data from Yahoo Finance.

EDIT:

There has been some discussion on the Yahoo developer forums and it looks like there is no documentation (emphasis mine):

The reason for the lack of documentation is that we don't have a Finance API. It appears some have reverse engineered an API that they use to pull Finance data, but they are breaking our Terms of Service (no redistribution of Finance data) in doing this so I would encourage you to avoid using these webservices.

At the same time, the URL you've listed can be accessed using the YQL console, though I'm not savvy enough to know how to extract URL parameters with it.

How do I run a program with a different working directory from current, from Linux shell?

I always think UNIX tools should be written as filters, read input from stdin and write output to stdout. If possible you could change your helloworld binary to write the contents of the text file to stdout rather than a specific file. That way you can use the shell to write your file anywhere.

$ cd ~/b

$ ~/a/helloworld > ~/c/helloworld.txt

Where does MySQL store database files on Windows and what are the names of the files?

If you're using Win10 with Xampp server installed, then you can find the data folder in C:\xampp\mysql\data

Inside the data folder, each database has its own folder which in turn contains the .frm, .myi and .myd files which represent for a single table in the database.

If for instance, you created a database with the name: myschool and inside the database, you have three tables with the names:

  1. Nursery
  2. Primary
  3. Secondary

Then, you will have for the Nursery table: nursery.frm, nursery.myi and nursery.myd. Same will go for the Primary and Secondary tables. Thus, in the I mentioned here, you will a total of 9 files inside the database folder named myschool.

You can then copy the database folder and use it in your new mysql installation data folder.

I hope this helps.

Best regards.

MySQL CREATE FUNCTION Syntax

You have to override your ; delimiter with something like $$ to avoid this kind of error.

After your function definition, you can set the delimiter back to ;.

This should work:

DELIMITER $$
CREATE FUNCTION F_Dist3D (x1 decimal, y1 decimal)
RETURNS decimal
DETERMINISTIC
BEGIN
  DECLARE dist decimal;
  SET dist = SQRT(x1 - y1);
  RETURN dist;
END$$

How to define custom configuration variables in rails

Update 1

Very recommended: I'm going with Rails Config gem nowadays for the fine grained control it provides.

Update2

If you want a quick solution, then check Jack Pratt's answer below.

Although my original answer below still works, this answer is now outdated. I recommend looking at updates 1 and 2.

Original Answer:

For a quick solution, watching the "YAML Configuration File" screen cast by Ryan Bates should be very helpful.

In summary:

# config/initializers/load_config.rb
APP_CONFIG = YAML.load_file("#{Rails.root}/config/config.yml")[Rails.env]

# application.rb
if APP_CONFIG['perform_authentication']
  # Do stuff
end

How to select true/false based on column value?

Use a CASE. I would post the specific code, but need more information than is supplied in the post - such as the data type of EntityProfile and what is usually stored in it. Something like:

CASE WHEN EntityProfile IS NULL THEN 'False' ELSE 'True' END

Edit - the entire SELECT statement, as per the info in the comments:

SELECT EntityID, EntityName,
       CASE WHEN EntityProfile IS NULL THEN 'False' ELSE 'True' END AS HasProfile
FROM Entity

No LEFT JOIN necessary in this case...

What is the difference between parseInt(string) and Number(string) in JavaScript?

The parseInt function allows you to specify a radix for the input string and is limited to integer values.

parseInt('Z', 36) === 35

The Number constructor called as a function will parse the string with a grammar and is limited to base 10 and base 16.

Javascript Error Null is not an Object

I think the error because the elements are undefined ,so you need to add window.onload event which this event will defined your elements when the window is loaded.

window.addEventListener('load',Loaded,false);

After Updating the driver the issue is resolved :)

Center a position:fixed element

Center fixed position element

It will not limit centered element's width less than viewport width, when using margins in flexbox inside centered element (a very good solution by far)

top: 0; left: 0;
transform: translate(calc(50vw - 50%));

Also for centering it vertically

top: 0; left: 0;
transform: translate(calc(50vw - 50%), calc(50vh - 50%));

SQLite select where empty?

You can do this with the following:

int counter = 0;
String sql = "SELECT projectName,Owner " + "FROM Project WHERE Owner= ?";
PreparedStatement prep = conn.prepareStatement(sql);
prep.setString(1, "");
ResultSet rs = prep.executeQuery();
while (rs.next()) {
    counter++;
}
System.out.println(counter);

This will give you the no of rows where the column value is null or blank.

How to count certain elements in array?

Here is a one liner in javascript.

  1. Use map. Find the matching values (v === 2) in the array, returning an array of ones and zeros.
  2. Use Reduce. Add all the values of the array for the total number found.
[1, 2, 3, 5, 2, 8, 9, 2]
  .map(function(v) {
    return v === 2 ? 1 : 0;
  })
  .reduce((a, b) => a + b, 0);

There are many ways to get a page from the command line... but it also depends if you want the code source or the page itself:

If you need the code source:

with curl:

curl $url

with wget:

wget -O - $url

but if you want to get what you can see with a browser, lynx can be useful:

lynx -dump $url

I think you can find so many solutions for this little problem, maybe you should read all man pages for those commands. And don't forget to replace $url by your URL :)

Good luck :)

Xcode Product -> Archive disabled

In addition to the generic device (or "Any iOS Device" in newer versions of Xcode) mentioned in the other answers, it is possible that the "Archive" action is not selected for the current target in the scheme.

To view and edit at the current scheme, select Product > Schemes > Edit Scheme... (Cmd+<), then make sure that the "Archive" action is checked in the line corresponding to the desired target.

In the image below, Archive is not checked and the Archive action is greyed out in the Product menu. Checking the indicated checkbox fixed the issue for me.

Math functions in AngularJS bindings

While the accepted answer is right that you can inject Math to use it in angular, for this particular problem, the more conventional/angular way is the number filter:

<p>The percentage is {{(100*count/total)| number:0}}%</p>

You can read more about the number filter here: http://docs.angularjs.org/api/ng/filter/number

Set a:hover based on class

One common error is leaving a space before the class names. Even if this was the correct syntax:

.menu a:hover .main-nav-item

it never would have worked.

Therefore, you would not write

.menu a .main-nav-item:hover

it would be

.menu a.main-nav-item:hover

Get integer value from string in swift

In Swift 3.0

Type 1: Convert NSString to String

    let stringNumb:NSString = "1357"
    let someNumb = Int(stringNumb as String) // 1357 as integer

Type 2: If the String has Integer only

    let stringNumb = "1357"
    let someNumb = Int(stringNumb) // 1357 as integer

Type 3: If the String has Float value

    let stringNumb = "13.57"
    if let stringToFloat = Float(stringNumb){
        let someNumb = Int(stringToFloat)// 13 as Integer
    }else{
       //do something if the stringNumb not have digit only. (i.e.,) let stringNumb = "13er4"
    }

define() vs. const

No one says anything about php-doc, but for me that is also a very significant argument for the preference of const:

/**
 * My foo-bar const
 * @var string
 */
const FOO = 'BAR';

What does this symbol mean in IntelliJ? (red circle on bottom-left corner of file name, with 'J' in it)

This is what worked for me

  2. Press Sync Project with Gradle Files

Most efficient way to map function over numpy array

TL;DR

As noted by @user2357112, a "direct" method of applying the function is always the fastest and simplest way to map a function over Numpy arrays:

import numpy as np
x = np.array([1, 2, 3, 4, 5])
f = lambda x: x ** 2
squares = f(x)

Generally avoid np.vectorize, as it does not perform well, and has (or had) a number of issues. If you are handling other data types, you may want to investigate the other methods shown below.

Comparison of methods

Here are some simple tests to compare three methods to map a function, this example using with Python 3.6 and NumPy 1.15.4. First, the set-up functions for testing:

import timeit
import numpy as np

f = lambda x: x ** 2
vf = np.vectorize(f)

def test_array(x, n):
    t = timeit.timeit(
        'np.array([f(xi) for xi in x])',
        'from __main__ import np, x, f', number=n)
    print('array: {0:.3f}'.format(t))

def test_fromiter(x, n):
    t = timeit.timeit(
        'np.fromiter((f(xi) for xi in x), x.dtype, count=len(x))',
        'from __main__ import np, x, f', number=n)
    print('fromiter: {0:.3f}'.format(t))

def test_direct(x, n):
    t = timeit.timeit(
        'f(x)',
        'from __main__ import x, f', number=n)
    print('direct: {0:.3f}'.format(t))

def test_vectorized(x, n):
    t = timeit.timeit(
        'vf(x)',
        'from __main__ import x, vf', number=n)
    print('vectorized: {0:.3f}'.format(t))

Testing with five elements (sorted from fastest to slowest):

x = np.array([1, 2, 3, 4, 5])
n = 100000
test_direct(x, n)      # 0.265
test_fromiter(x, n)    # 0.479
test_array(x, n)       # 0.865
test_vectorized(x, n)  # 2.906

With 100s of elements:

x = np.arange(100)
n = 10000
test_direct(x, n)      # 0.030
test_array(x, n)       # 0.501
test_vectorized(x, n)  # 0.670
test_fromiter(x, n)    # 0.883

And with 1000s of array elements or more:

x = np.arange(1000)
n = 1000
test_direct(x, n)      # 0.007
test_fromiter(x, n)    # 0.479
test_array(x, n)       # 0.516
test_vectorized(x, n)  # 0.945

Different versions of Python/NumPy and compiler optimization will have different results, so do a similar test for your environment.

How do I force files to open in the browser instead of downloading (PDF)?

Open downloads.php from rootfile.

Then go to line 186 and change it to the following:

        if(preg_match("/\.jpg|\.gif|\.png|\.jpeg/i", $name)){
            $mime = getimagesize($download_location);
            if(!empty($mime)) {
                header("Content-Type: {$mime['mime']}");
            }
        }
        elseif(preg_match("/\.pdf/i", $name)){
            header("Content-Type: application/force-download");
            header("Content-type: application/pdf");
            header("Content-Disposition: inline; filename=\"".$name."\";");
        }

        else{
            header("Content-Type: application/force-download");
            header("Content-type: application/octet-stream");
            header("Content-Disposition: attachment; filename=\"".$name."\";");
        }

Refresh image with a new one at the same url

I used the below concept of first binding the image with a false(buffer) url and next binding it with the valid url.

imgcover.ImageUrl = ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["profileLargeImgPath"] + "Myapp_CoverPic_" + userid + "Buffer.jpg";

imgcover.ImageUrl = ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["profileLargeImgPath"] + "Myapp_CoverPic_" + userid + ".jpg";

This way, I am forcing the browser to refresh with valid url.

How to achieve ripple animation using support library?

Basic ripple setup

  • Ripples contained within the view.
    android:background="?selectableItemBackground"

  • Ripples that extend beyond the view's bounds:
    android:background="?selectableItemBackgroundBorderless"

    Have a look here for resolving ?(attr) xml references in Java code.

Support Library

  • Using ?attr: (or the ? shorthand) instead of ?android:attr references the support library, so is available back to API 7.

Ripples with images/backgrounds

  • To have a image or background and overlaying ripple the easiest solution is to wrap the View in a FrameLayout with the ripple set with setForeground() or setBackground().

Honestly there is no clean way of doing this otherwise.

How to add parameters to an external data query in Excel which can't be displayed graphically?

Excel's interface for SQL Server queries will not let you have a custom parameters.  A way around this is to create a generic Microsoft Query, then add parameters, then paste your parametorized query in the connection's properties.  Here are the detailed steps for Excel 2010:

  1. Open Excel
  2. Goto Data tab
  3. From the From Other Sources button choose From Microsoft Query
  4. The "Choose Data Source" window will appear.  Choose a datasource and click OK.
  5. The Query Qizard
    1. Choose Column: window will appear.  The goal is to create a generic query. I recommend choosing one column from a small table.
    2. Filter Data: Just click Next
    3. Sort Order: Just click Next
    4. Finish: Just click Finish.
  6. The "Import Data" window will appear:
    1. Click the Properties... button.
      1. Choose the Definition tab
      2. In the "Command text:" section add a WHERE clause that includes Excel parameters.  It's important to add all the parameters that you want now.  For example, if I want two parameters I could add this:
        WHERE 1 = ? and 2 = ?
      3. Click OK to get back to the "Import Data" window
    2. Choose PivotTable Report
    3. Click OK
  7. You will be prompted to enter the parameters value for each parameter.
  8. Once you have enter the parameters you will be at your pivot table
  9. Go batck to the Data tab and click the connections Properties button
    1. Click the Definition tab
    2. In the "Command text:" section, Paste in the real SQL Query that you want with the same number of parameters that you defined earlier.
    3. Click the Parameters... button
      1. enter the Prompt values for each parameter
      2. Click OK
    4. Click OK to close the properties window
  10. Congratulations, you now have parameters.

Setting property 'source' to 'org.eclipse.jst.jee.server:JSFTut' did not find a matching property

This is not an error. This is a warning. The difference is pretty huge. This particular warning basically means that the <Context> element in Tomcat's server.xml contains an unknown attribute source and that Tomcat doesn't know what to do with this attribute and therefore will ignore it.

Eclipse WTP adds a custom attribute source to the project related <Context> element in the server.xml of Tomcat which identifies the source of the context (the actual project in the workspace which is deployed to the particular server). This way Eclipse can correlate the deployed webapplication with an project in the workspace. Since Tomcat version 6.0.16, any unspecified XML tags and attributes in the server.xml will produce a warning during Tomcat's startup, even though there is no DTD nor XSD for server.xml.

Just ignore it. Your web project is fine. It should run fine. This issue is completely unrelated to JSF.

mysqli_fetch_assoc() expects parameter 1 to be mysqli_result, boolean given

This happens when your result is not a result (but a "false" instead). You should change this line

$sql = 'SELECT * FROM $usertable WHERE PartNumber = $partid';

to this:

$sql = "SELECT * FROM $usertable WHERE PartNumber = $partid";

because the " can interprete $variables while ' cannot.

Works fine with integers (numbers), for strings you need to put the $variable in single quotes, like

$sql = "SELECT * FROM $usertable WHERE PartNumber = '$partid' ";

If you want / have to work with single quotes, then php CAN NOT interprete the variables, you will have to do it like this:

 $sql = 'SELECT * FROM '.$usertable.' WHERE string_column = "'.$string.'" AND integer_column = '.$number.';

Storing sex (gender) in database

I'd call the column "gender".

Data Type Bytes Taken Number/Range of Values
------------------------------------------------
TinyINT     1                    255 (zero to 255)
INT         4            -       2,147,483,648 to 2,147,483,647
BIT         1 (2 if 9+ columns)  2 (0 and 1)
CHAR(1)     1                    26 if case insensitive, 52 otherwise

The BIT data type can be ruled out because it only supports two possible genders which is inadequate. While INT supports more than two options, it takes 4 bytes -- performance will be better with a smaller/more narrow data type.

CHAR(1) has the edge over TinyINT - both take the same number of bytes, but CHAR provides a more narrow number of values. Using CHAR(1) would make using "m", "f",etc natural keys, vs the use of numeric data which are referred to as surrogate/artificial keys. CHAR(1) is also supported on any database, should there be a need to port.

Conclusion

I would use Option 2: CHAR(1).

Addendum

An index on the gender column likely would not help because there's no value in an index on a low cardinality column. Meaning, there's not enough variety in the values for the index to provide any value.

Basic Python client socket example

Here is the simplest python socket example.

Server side:

import socket

serversocket = socket.socket(socket.AF_INET, socket.SOCK_STREAM)
serversocket.bind(('localhost', 8089))
serversocket.listen(5) # become a server socket, maximum 5 connections

while True:
    connection, address = serversocket.accept()
    buf = connection.recv(64)
    if len(buf) > 0:
        print buf
        break

Client Side:

import socket

clientsocket = socket.socket(socket.AF_INET, socket.SOCK_STREAM)
clientsocket.connect(('localhost', 8089))
clientsocket.send('hello')
  • First run the SocketServer.py, and make sure the server is ready to listen/receive sth
  • Then the client send info to the server;
  • After the server received sth, it terminates

Python Requests package: Handling xml response

requests does not handle parsing XML responses, no. XML responses are much more complex in nature than JSON responses, how you'd serialize XML data into Python structures is not nearly as straightforward.

Python comes with built-in XML parsers. I recommend you use the ElementTree API:

import requests
from xml.etree import ElementTree

response = requests.get(url)

tree = ElementTree.fromstring(response.content)

or, if the response is particularly large, use an incremental approach:

    response = requests.get(url, stream=True)
    # if the server sent a Gzip or Deflate compressed response, decompress
    # as we read the raw stream:
    response.raw.decode_content = True

    events = ElementTree.iterparse(response.raw)
    for event, elem in events:
        # do something with `elem`

The external lxml project builds on the same API to give you more features and power still.

OR operator in switch-case?

dude do like this

    case R.id.someValue :
    case R.id.someOtherValue :
       //do stuff

This is same as using OR operator between two values Because of this case operator isn't there in switch case

Differences between C++ string == and compare()?

Internally, string::operator==() is using string::compare(). Please refer to: CPlusPlus - string::operator==()

I wrote a small application to compare the performance, and apparently if you compile and run your code on debug environment the string::compare() is slightly faster than string::operator==(). However if you compile and run your code in Release environment, both are pretty much the same.

FYI, I ran 1,000,000 iteration in order to come up with such conclusion.

In order to prove why in debug environment the string::compare is faster, I went to the assembly and here is the code:

DEBUG BUILD

string::operator==()

        if (str1 == str2)
00D42A34  lea         eax,[str2]
00D42A37  push        eax
00D42A38  lea         ecx,[str1]
00D42A3B  push        ecx
00D42A3C  call        std::operator==<char,std::char_traits<char>,std::allocator<char> > (0D23EECh)
00D42A41  add         esp,8
00D42A44  movzx       edx,al
00D42A47  test        edx,edx
00D42A49  je          Algorithm::PerformanceTest::stringComparison_usingEqualOperator1+0C4h (0D42A54h)

string::compare()

            if (str1.compare(str2) == 0)
00D424D4  lea         eax,[str2]
00D424D7  push        eax
00D424D8  lea         ecx,[str1]
00D424DB  call        std::basic_string<char,std::char_traits<char>,std::allocator<char> >::compare (0D23582h)
00D424E0  test        eax,eax
00D424E2  jne         Algorithm::PerformanceTest::stringComparison_usingCompare1+0BDh (0D424EDh)

You can see that in string::operator==(), it has to perform extra operations (add esp, 8 and movzx edx,al)

RELEASE BUILD

string::operator==()

        if (str1 == str2)
008533F0  cmp         dword ptr [ebp-14h],10h
008533F4  lea         eax,[str2]

008533FE  push        eax
008533FF  push        dword ptr [ebp-30h]
00853402  push        ecx
00853403  lea         ecx,[str1]
00853406  call        std::basic_string<char,std::char_traits<char>,std::allocator<char> >::compare (0853B80h)

string::compare()

            if (str1.compare(str2) == 0)
    00853830  cmp         dword ptr [ebp-14h],10h
    00853834  lea         eax,[str2]
    00853837  push        dword ptr [ebp-18h]
    0085383A  cmovae      eax,dword ptr [str2]
    0085383E  push        eax
    0085383F  push        dword ptr [ebp-30h]
    00853842  push        ecx
00853843  lea         ecx,[str1]
00853846  call        std::basic_string<char,std::char_traits<char>,std::allocator<char> >::compare (0853B80h)

Both assembly code are very similar as the compiler perform optimization.

Finally, in my opinion, the performance gain is negligible, hence I would really leave it to the developer to decide on which one is the preferred one as both achieve the same outcome (especially when it is release build).

How to find nth occurrence of character in a string?

This answer improves on @aioobe 's answer. Two bugs in that answer were fixed.
1. n=0 should return -1.
2. nth occurence returned -1, but it worked on n-1th occurences.

Try this !

    public int nthOccurrence(String str, char c, int n) {
    if(n <= 0){
        return -1;
    }
    int pos = str.indexOf(c, 0);
    while (n-- > 1 && pos != -1)
        pos = str.indexOf(c, pos+1);
    return pos;
}

Difference between socket and websocket?

To answer your questions.

  1. Even though they achieve (in general) similar things, yes, they are really different. WebSockets typically run from browsers connecting to Application Server over a protocol similar to HTTP that runs over TCP/IP. So they are primarily for Web Applications that require a permanent connection to its server. On the other hand, plain sockets are more powerful and generic. They run over TCP/IP but they are not restricted to browsers or HTTP protocol. They could be used to implement any kind of communication.
  2. No. There is no reason.

View RDD contents in Python Spark?

Try this:

data = f.flatMap(lambda x: x.split(' '))
map = data.map(lambda x: (x, 1))
mapreduce = map.reduceByKey(lambda x,y: x+y)
result = mapreduce.collect()

Please note that when you run collect(), the RDD - which is a distributed data set is aggregated at the driver node and is essentially converted to a list. So obviously, it won't be a good idea to collect() a 2T data set. If all you need is a couple of samples from your RDD, use take(10).

Why are hexadecimal numbers prefixed with 0x?

The preceding 0 is used to indicate a number in base 2, 8, or 16.

In my opinion, 0x was chosen to indicate hex because 'x' sounds like hex.

Just my opinion, but I think it makes sense.

var BG = document.getElementById('bg1');
BG.style.height = BG.parentElement.clientHeight;

Then attach a resize event listener to Window which does this: if difference in height after resizing is less than 60px (anything more than url bar height) then do nothing and if it is greater than 60px then set bg1's height again to its parent's height! complete code:

window.addEventListener("resize", onResize, false);
var BG = document.getElementById('bg1');

var oldH = BG.parentElement.clientHeight;

function onResize() {

I tried changing the Internal Testers option, tried changing other items on the app details page, and tried uploading several new binaries (with the same code, only changing the build number) over a 2-day period to no effect. I also contacted Apple through the iTunes Connect support link; they replied in less than 24 hours, but only to ask for more info (most of which I had already provided).

Finally, the fifth build I uploaded, two days later, went through in the normal few minutes and I was finally able to submit my app for review.

How do I check if a given Python string is a substring of another one?

string.find("substring") will help you. This function returns -1 when there is no substring.

What is the documents directory (NSDocumentDirectory)?

Your app only (on a non-jailbroken device) runs in a "sandboxed" environment. This means that it can only access files and directories within its own contents. For example Documents and Library.

See the iOS Application Programming Guide.

To access the Documents directory of your applications sandbox, you can use the following:

iOS 8 and newer, this is the recommended method

+ (NSURL *)applicationDocumentsDirectory
{
     return [[[NSFileManager defaultManager] URLsForDirectory:NSDocumentDirectory inDomains:NSUserDomainMask] lastObject];
}

if you need to support iOS 7 or earlier

+ (NSString *) applicationDocumentsDirectory
{
    NSArray *paths = NSSearchPathForDirectoriesInDomains(NSDocumentDirectory, NSUserDomainMask, YES);
    NSString *basePath = paths.firstObject;
    return basePath;
}

This Documents directory allows you to store files and subdirectories your app creates or may need.

To access files in the Library directory of your apps sandbox use (in place of paths above):

[NSSearchPathForDirectoriesInDomains(NSLibraryDirectory, NSUserDomainMask, YES) objectAtIndex:0]

How do I create batch file to rename large number of files in a folder?

@echo off
SETLOCAL ENABLEDELAYEDEXPANSION
SET old=Vacation2010
SET new=December
for /f "tokens=*" %%f in ('dir /b *.jpg') do (
  SET newname=%%f
  SET newname=!newname:%old%=%new%!
  move "%%f" "!newname!"
)

What this does is it loops over all .jpg files in the folder where the batch file is located and replaces the Vacation2010 with December inside the filenames.

getting the error: expected identifier or ‘(’ before ‘{’ token

{
int main(void);

should be

int main(void)
{

Removing address bar from browser (to view on Android)

If you've loaded jQuery, you can see if the height of the content is greater than the viewport height. If not, then you can make it that height (or a little less). I ran the following code in WVGA800 mode in the Android emulator, and then ran it on my Samsung Galaxy Tab, and in both cases it hid the addressbar.

$(document).ready(function() {

  if (navigator.userAgent.match(/Android/i)) {
    window.scrollTo(0,0); // reset in case prev not scrolled
    var nPageH = $(document).height();
    var nViewH = window.outerHeight;
    if (nViewH > nPageH) {
      nViewH -= 250;
      $('BODY').css('height',nViewH + 'px');
    }
    window.scrollTo(0,1);
  }

});

How to resolve the "EVP_DecryptFInal_ex: bad decrypt" during file decryption

Errors: "Bad encrypt / decrypt" "gitencrypt_smudge: FAILURE: openssl error decrypting file"

There are various error strings that are thrown from openssl, depending on respective versions, and scenarios. Below is the checklist I use in case of openssl related issues:

  1. Ideally, openssl is able to encrypt/decrypt using same key (+ salt) & enc algo only.
  2. Ensure that openssl versions (used to encrypt/decrypt), are compatible. For eg. the hash used in openssl changed at version 1.1.0 from MD5 to SHA256. This produces a different key from the same password. Fix: add "-md md5" in 1.1.0 to decrypt data from lower versions, and add "-md sha256 in lower versions to decrypt data from 1.1.0

  3. Ensure that there is a single openssl version installed in your machine. In case there are multiple versions installed simultaneously (in my machine, these were installed :- 'LibreSSL 2.6.5' and 'openssl 1.1.1d'), make the sure that only the desired one appears in your PATH variable.

Unable to execute dex: method ID not in [0, 0xffff]: 65536

I've shared a sample project which solve this problem using custom_rules.xml build script and a few lines of code.

I used it on my own project and it is runs flawless on 1M+ devices (from android-8 to the latest android-19). Hope it helps.

How to display binary data as image - extjs 4

In ExtJs, you can use

xtype: 'image'

to render a image.

Here is a fiddle showing rendering of binary data with extjs.

atob -- > converts ascii to binary

btoa -- > converts binary to ascii

Ext.application({
    name: 'Fiddle',

    launch: function () {
        var srcBase64 = "data:image/jpeg;base64," + btoa(atob("iVBORw0KGgoAAAANSUhEUgAAAAEAAAABCAYAAAAfFcSJAAAADUlEQVR42mP8H8hYDwAFegHS8+X7mgAAAABJRU5ErkJggg=="));

        Ext.create("Ext.panel.Panel", {
            title: "Test",
            renderTo: Ext.getBody(),
            height: 400,
            items: [{
                xtype: 'image',
                width: 100,
                height: 100,
                src: srcBase64
            }]
        })
    }
});

Callback functions in Java

Create an Interface, and Create the Same Interface Property in Callback Class.

interface dataFetchDelegate {
    void didFetchdata(String data);
}
//callback class
public class BackendManager{
   public dataFetchDelegate Delegate;

   public void getData() {
       //Do something, Http calls/ Any other work
       Delegate.didFetchdata("this is callbackdata");
   }

}

Now in the class where you want to get called back implement the above Created Interface. and Also Pass "this" Object/Reference of your class to be called back.

public class Main implements dataFetchDelegate
{
    public static void main( String[] args )
    {
        new Main().getDatafromBackend();
    }

    public void getDatafromBackend() {
        BackendManager inc = new BackendManager();
        //Pass this object as reference.in this Scenario this is Main Object
        inc.Delegate = this;
        //make call
        inc.getData();
    }

    //This method is called after task/Code Completion
    public void didFetchdata(String callbackData) {
        // TODO Auto-generated method stub
        System.out.println(callbackData);
    }
}

Adding a directory to PATH in Ubuntu

Actually I would advocate .profile if you need it to work from scripts, and in particular, scripts run by /bin/sh instead of Bash. If this is just for your own private interactive use, .bashrc is fine, though.

How to convert a Base64 string into a Bitmap image to show it in a ImageView?

To check online you can use

http://codebeautify.org/base64-to-image-converter

You can convert string to image like this way

import android.graphics.Bitmap;
import android.graphics.BitmapFactory;
import android.support.v7.app.AppCompatActivity;
import android.os.Bundle;
import android.util.Base64;
import android.widget.ImageView;

import java.io.ByteArrayOutputStream;

public class MainActivity extends AppCompatActivity {

    @Override
    protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
        super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
        setContentView(R.layout.activity_main);

        ImageView image =(ImageView)findViewById(R.id.image);

        //encode image to base64 string
        ByteArrayOutputStream baos = new ByteArrayOutputStream();
        Bitmap bitmap = BitmapFactory.decodeResource(getResources(), R.drawable.logo);
        bitmap.compress(Bitmap.CompressFormat.JPEG, 100, baos);
        byte[] imageBytes = baos.toByteArray();
        String imageString = Base64.encodeToString(imageBytes, Base64.DEFAULT);

        //decode base64 string to image
        imageBytes = Base64.decode(imageString, Base64.DEFAULT);
        Bitmap decodedImage = BitmapFactory.decodeByteArray(imageBytes, 0, imageBytes.length);
        image.setImageBitmap(decodedImage);
    }

LINQ to SQL - How to select specific columns and return strongly typed list

Basically you are doing it the right way. However, you should use an instance of the DataContext for querying (it's not obvious that DataContext is an instance or the type name from your query):

var result = (from a in new DataContext().Persons
              where a.Age > 18
              select new Person { Name = a.Name, Age = a.Age }).ToList();

Apparently, the Person class is your LINQ to SQL generated entity class. You should create your own class if you only want some of the columns:

class PersonInformation {
   public string Name {get;set;}
   public int Age {get;set;}
}

var result = (from a in new DataContext().Persons
              where a.Age > 18
              select new PersonInformation { Name = a.Name, Age = a.Age }).ToList();

You can freely swap var with List<PersonInformation> here without affecting anything (as this is what the compiler does).

Otherwise, if you are working locally with the query, I suggest considering an anonymous type:

var result = (from a in new DataContext().Persons
              where a.Age > 18
              select new { a.Name, a.Age }).ToList();

Note that in all of these cases, the result is statically typed (it's type is known at compile time). The latter type is a List of a compiler generated anonymous class similar to the PersonInformation class I wrote above. As of C# 3.0, there's no dynamic typing in the language.

UPDATE:

If you really want to return a List<Person> (which might or might not be the best thing to do), you can do this:

var result = from a in new DataContext().Persons
             where a.Age > 18
             select new { a.Name, a.Age };

List<Person> list = result.AsEnumerable()
                          .Select(o => new Person {
                                           Name = o.Name,
                                           Age = o.Age
                          }).ToList();

You can merge the above statements too, but I separated them for clarity.

How do you calculate the variance, median, and standard deviation in C++ or Java?

public class Statistics {
    double[] data;
    int size;

    public Statistics(double[] data) {
        this.data = data;
        size = data.length;
    }

    double getMean() {
        double sum = 0.0;
        for(double a : data)
            sum += a;
        return sum/size;
    }

    double getVariance() {
        double mean = getMean();
        double temp = 0;
        for(double a :data)
            temp += (a-mean)*(a-mean);
        return temp/(size-1);
    }

    double getStdDev() {
        return Math.sqrt(getVariance());
    }

    public double median() {
       Arrays.sort(data);
       if (data.length % 2 == 0)
          return (data[(data.length / 2) - 1] + data[data.length / 2]) / 2.0;
       return data[data.length / 2];
    }
}

UUID max character length

This is the perfect kind of field to define as CHAR 36, by the way, not VARCHAR 36, since each value will have the exact same length. And you'll use less storage space, since you don't need to store the data length for each value, just the value.

Why is Java's SimpleDateFormat not thread-safe?

Here is the example which results in a strange error. Even Google gives no results:

public class ExampleClass {

private static final Pattern dateCreateP = Pattern.compile("???? ??????:\\s*(.+)");
private static final SimpleDateFormat sdf = new SimpleDateFormat("HH:mm:ss dd.MM.yyyy");

public static void main(String[] args) {
    ExecutorService executor = Executors.newFixedThreadPool(100);
    while (true) {
        executor.submit(new Runnable() {
            @Override
            public void run() {
                workConcurrently();
            }
        });
    }
}

public static void workConcurrently() {
    Matcher matcher = dateCreateP.matcher("???? ??????: 19:30:55 03.05.2015");
    Timestamp startAdvDate = null;
    try {
        if (matcher.find()) {
            String dateCreate = matcher.group(1);
            startAdvDate = new Timestamp(sdf.parse(dateCreate).getTime());
        }
    } catch (Throwable th) {
        th.printStackTrace();
    }
    System.out.print("OK ");
}
}

how to replace an entire column on Pandas.DataFrame

For those that struggle with the "SettingWithCopy" warning, here's a workaround which may not be so efficient, but still gets the job done.

Suppose you with to overwrite column_1 and column_3, but retain column_2 and column_4

columns_to_overwrite = ["column_1", "column_3"]

First delete the columns that you intend to replace...

original_df.drop(labels=columns_to_overwrite, axis="columns", inplace=True)

... then re-insert the columns, but using the values that you intended to overwrite

original_df[columns_to_overwrite] = other_data_frame[columns_to_overwrite]

Checking on a thread / remove from list

Better way is to use Queue class: http://docs.python.org/library/queue.html

Look at the good example code in the bottom of documentation page:

def worker():

        do_work(item)
        q.task_done()

q = Queue()
for i in range(num_worker_threads):
     t = Thread(target=worker)
     t.daemon = True
     t.start()

for item in source():
    q.put(item)

q.join() # block until all tasks are done

HTTP Status 405 - Request method 'POST' not supported (Spring MVC)

Check if you are returning a @ResponseBody or a @ResponseStatus

I had a similar problem. My Controller looked like that:

@RequestMapping(value="/user", method = RequestMethod.POST)
public String updateUser(@RequestBody User user){
    return userService.updateUser(user).getId();
}

When calling with a POST request I always got the following error:

HTTP Status 405 - Request method 'POST' not supported

After a while I figured out that the method was actually called, but because there is no @ResponseBody and no @ResponseStatus Spring MVC raises the error.

To fix this simply add a @ResponseBody

@RequestMapping(value="/user", method = RequestMethod.POST)
public @ResponseBody String updateUser(@RequestBody User user){
    return userService.updateUser(user).getId();
}

or a @ResponseStatus to your method.

@RequestMapping(value="/user", method = RequestMethod.POST)
@ResponseStatus(value=HttpStatus.OK)
public String updateUser(@RequestBody User user){
    return userService.updateUser(user).getId();
}

How to open every file in a folder

The code below reads for any text files available in the directory which contains the script we are running. Then it opens every text file and stores the words of the text line into a list. After store the words we print each word line by line

import os, fnmatch

listOfFiles = os.listdir('.')
pattern = "*.txt"
store = []
for entry in listOfFiles:
    if fnmatch.fnmatch(entry, pattern):
        _fileName = open(entry,"r")
        if _fileName.mode == "r":
            content = _fileName.read()
            contentList = content.split(" ")
            for i in contentList:
                if i != '\n' and i != "\r\n":
                    store.append(i)

for i in store:
    print(i)

How to start working with GTest and CMake

Having done some more digging, I think my issue is something to do with the type of library I am building gtest into. When building gtest with CMake, if BUILD_SHARED_LIBS is un-checked, and I link my program against these .lib files I get the errors mentioned above. However, if BUILD_SHARED_LIBS is checked then I produce a set of .lib and .dll files. When now linking against these .lib files the program compiles, but when run complains that it can't find gtest.dll.

That is because you have to add -DGTEST_LINKED_AS_SHARED_LIBRARY=1 to compiler definitions in your project if you want to use gtest as a shared library.

You could also use the static libraries, provided you compiled it with gtest_force_shared_crt option on to eliminate errors you have seen.

I like the library but adding it to the project is a real pain. And you have no chance to do it right unless you dig (and hack) into the gtest cmake files. Shame. In particular I do not like the idea of adding gtest as a source. :)

Difference between static and shared libraries?

For a static library, the code is extracted from the library by the linker and used to build the the final executable at the point you compile/build your application. The final executable has no dependencies on the library at run time

For a shared library, the compiler/linker checks that the names you link with exist in the library when the application is built, but doesn't move their code into the application. At run time, the shared library must be available.

The C programming language itself has no concept of either static or shared libraries - they are completely an implementation feature.

Personally, I much prefer to use static libraries, as it makes software distribution simpler. However, this is an opinion over which much (figurative) blood has been shed in the past.

Grunt watch error - Waiting...Fatal error: watch ENOSPC

After trying grenade's answer you may use a temporary fix:

sudo bash -c 'echo 524288 > /proc/sys/fs/inotify/max_user_watches'

This does the same thing as kds's answer, but without persisting the changes. This is useful if the error just occurs after some uptime of your system.

Multiple scenarios @RequestMapping produces JSON/XML together with Accept or ResponseEntity

All your problems are that you are mixing content type negotiation with parameter passing. They are things at different levels. More specific, for your question 2, you constructed the response header with the media type your want to return. The actual content negotiation is based on the accept media type in your request header, not response header. At the point the execution reaches the implementation of the method getPersonFormat, I am not sure whether the content negotiation has been done or not. Depends on the implementation. If not and you want to make the thing work, you can overwrite the request header accept type with what you want to return.

return new ResponseEntity<>(PersonFactory.createPerson(), httpHeaders, HttpStatus.OK);

Hibernate SessionFactory vs. JPA EntityManagerFactory

SessionFactory vs. EntityManagerFactory

As I explained in the Hibernate User Guide, the Hibernate SessionFactory extends the JPA EntityManagerFactory, as illustrated by the following diagram:

JPA and Hibernate relationship

So, the SessionFactory is also a JPA EntityManagerFactory.

Both the SessionFactory and the EntityManagerFactory contain the entity mapping metadata and allow you to create a Hibernate Session or a EntityManager.

Session vs. EntityManager

Just like the SessionFactory and EntityManagerFactory, the Hibernate Session extends the JPA EntityManager. So, all methods defined by the EntityManager are available in the Hibernate Session.

The Session and the `EntityManager translate entity state transitions into SQL statements, like SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE, and DELETE.

Hibernate vs. JPA bootstrap

When bootstrapping a JPA or Hibernate application, you have two choices:

  1. You can bootstrap via the Hibernate native mechanism, and create a SessionFactory via the BootstrapServiceRegistryBuilder. If you're using Spring, the Hibernate bootstrap is done via the LocalSessionFactoryBean, as illustrated by this GitHub example.
  2. Or, you can create a JPA EntityManagerFactory via the Persistence class or the EntityManagerFactoryBuilder. If you're using Spring, the JPA bootstrap is done via the LocalContainerEntityManagerFactoryBean, as illustrated by this GitHub example.

Bootstrapping via JPA is to be preferred. That's because the JPA FlushModeType.AUTO is a much better choice than the legacy FlushMode.AUTO, which breaks read-your-writes consistency for native SQL queries.

Unwrapping JPA to Hibernate

Also, if you bootstrap via JPA, and you have injected the EntityManagerFactory via the @PersistenceUnit annotation:

@PersistenceUnit
private EntityManagerFactory entityManagerFactory;

You can easily get access to the underlying Sessionfactory using the unwrap method:

SessionFactory sessionFactory = entityManagerFactory.unwrap(SessionFactory.class);

The same can be done with the JPA EntityManager. If you inject the EntityManager via the @PersistenceContext annotation:

@PersistenceContext
private EntityManager entityManager;

You can easily get access to the underlying Session using the unwrap method:

Session session = entityManager.unwrap(Session.class);

Conclusion

So, you should bootstrap via JPA, use the EntityManagerFactory and EntityManager, and only unwrap those to their associated Hibernate interfaces when you want to get access to some Hibernate-specific methods that are not available in JPA, like fetching the entity via its natural identifier.

Android View shadow

This question may be old, but for anybody in future that wants a simple way to achieve complex shadow effects check out my library here https://github.com/BluRe-CN/ComplexView

Using the library, you can change shadow colors, tweak edges and so much more. Here's an example to achieve what you seek for.

<com.blure.complexview.ComplexView
        android:layout_width="400dp"
        android:layout_height="600dp"
        app:radius="10dp"
        app:shadow="true"
        app:shadowSpread="2">

        <com.blure.complexview.ComplexView

            android:layout_height="match_parent"
            app:color="#fdfcfc"

To change the shadow color, use app:shadowColor="your color code".

tkinter: Open a new window with a button prompt

Here's the nearly shortest possible solution to your question. The solution works in python 3.x. For python 2.x change the import to Tkinter rather than tkinter (the difference being the capitalization):

import tkinter as tk
#import Tkinter as tk # for python 2

def create_window():
    window = tk.Toplevel(root)

root = tk.Tk()
b = tk.Button(root, text="Create new window", command=create_window)
b.pack()

root.mainloop()

This is definitely not what I recommend as an example of good coding style, but it illustrates the basic concepts: a button with a command, and a function that creates a window.

How to import image (.svg, .png ) in a React Component

Is it possible to override / remove background: none!important with jQuery?

Yes it is possible depending on what css you have, you simply just declare the same thing with a different background like this

ul li {
    background: none !important;
}

ul li{
    background: blue !important;
}

But you have to make sure the declaration comes after the first one seeing as it is cascading.

Demo

You can also create a style tag in jQuery like this

$('head').append('<style> #an-element li { background: inherit !important;} </style>');

Demo

You cannot see any changes because it's not inheriting any background but it is overwriting the background: none;

How to have multiple CSS transitions on an element?

It's also possible to avoid specifying the properties altogether.

#box {
  transition: 0.4s;
  position: absolute;
  border: 1px solid darkred;
  bottom: 20px; left: 20px;
  width: 200px; height: 200px;
  opacity: 0;
}

#box.on {
  opacity: 1;
  height: 300px;
  width: 500px;
 }

What is the difference between . (dot) and $ (dollar sign)?

($) allows functions to be chained together without adding parentheses to control evaluation order:

Prelude> head (tail "asdf")
's'

Prelude> head $ tail "asdf"
's'

The compose operator (.) creates a new function without specifying the arguments:

Prelude> let second x = head $ tail x
Prelude> second "asdf"
's'

Prelude> let second = head . tail
Prelude> second "asdf"
's'

The example above is arguably illustrative, but doesn't really show the convenience of using composition. Here's another analogy:

Prelude> let third x = head $ tail $ tail x
Prelude> map third ["asdf", "qwer", "1234"]
"de3"

If we only use third once, we can avoid naming it by using a lambda:

Prelude> map (\x -> head $ tail $ tail x) ["asdf", "qwer", "1234"]
"de3"

Finally, composition lets us avoid the lambda:

Prelude> map (head . tail . tail) ["asdf", "qwer", "1234"]
"de3"

Explain the different tiers of 2 tier & 3 tier architecture?

Tiers are nothing but the separation of concerns and in general the presentation layer (the forms or pages that is visible to the user) is separated from the data tier (the class or file interact with the database). This separation is done in order to improve the maintainability, scalability, re-usability, flexibility and performance as well.

A good explanations with demo code of 3-tier and 4-tier architecture can be read at http://www.dotnetfunda.com/articles/article71.aspx

Where does Git store files?

If you are looking for where the project folder was created. I noticed when I typed in the git bash.

$ git init projectName

it will tell me, where the project folder is for that project.

Angular 2 'component' is not a known element

The problem in my case was missing component declaration in the module, but even after adding the declaration the error persisted. I had stop the server and rebuild the entire project in VS Code for the error to go away.

Error: Expression must have integral or unscoped enum type

Your variable size is declared as: float size;

You can't use a floating point variable as the size of an array - it needs to be an integer value.

You could cast it to convert to an integer:

float *temp = new float[(int)size];

Your other problem is likely because you're writing outside of the bounds of the array:

   float *temp = new float[size];

    //Getting input from the user
    for (int x = 1; x <= size; x++){
        cout << "Enter temperature " << x << ": ";

        // cin >> temp[x];
        // This should be:
        cin >> temp[x - 1];
    }

Arrays are zero based in C++, so this is going to write beyond the end and never write the first element in your original code.

How to do join on multiple criteria, returning all combinations of both criteria

It sounds like you want to list all the metrics?

SELECT Criteria1, Criteria2, Metric1 As Metric
FROM Table1
UNION ALL
SELECT Criteria1, Criteria2, Metric2 As Metric
FROM Table2

    SELECT Criteria1, Criteria2, Metric1 As Metric
    FROM Table1
    UNION ALL
    SELECT Criteria1, Criteria2, Metric2 As Metric
    FROM Table2
)
ORDER BY Criteria1, Criteria2

How to compare a local git branch with its remote branch?

Where my_topic_branch is your topic branch.

How can I define colors as variables in CSS?

Consider using SCSS. It's full compatible with CSS syntax, so a valid CSS file is also a valid SCSS file. This makes migration easy, just change the suffix. It has numerous enhancements, the most useful being variables and nested selectors.

You need to run it through a pre-processor to convert it to CSS before shipping it to the client.

I've been a hardcore CSS developer for many years now, but since forcing myself to do a project in SCSS, I now won't use anything else.

how to get html content from a webview?

Actually this question has many answers. Here are 2 of them :

  • This first is almost the same as yours, I guess we got it from the same tutorial.

public class TestActivity extends Activity {

    @Override
    protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
        super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
        setContentView(R.layout.webview);
        final WebView webview = (WebView) findViewById(R.id.browser);
        webview.getSettings().setJavaScriptEnabled(true);
        webview.addJavascriptInterface(new MyJavaScriptInterface(this), "HtmlViewer");

        webview.setWebViewClient(new WebViewClient() {
            @Override
            public void onPageFinished(WebView view, String url) {
                webview.loadUrl("javascript:window.HtmlViewer.showHTML" +
                        "('<html>'+document.getElementsByTagName('html')[0].innerHTML+'</html>');");
            }
        });

        webview.loadUrl("http://android-in-action.com/index.php?post/" +
                "Common-errors-and-bugs-and-how-to-solve-avoid-them");
    }

    class MyJavaScriptInterface {

        private Context ctx;

        MyJavaScriptInterface(Context ctx) {
            this.ctx = ctx;
        }

        public void showHTML(String html) {
            new AlertDialog.Builder(ctx).setTitle("HTML").setMessage(html)
                    .setPositiveButton(android.R.string.ok, null).setCancelable(false).create().show();
        }

    }
}

This way your grab the html through javascript. Not the prettiest way but when you have your javascript interface, you can add other methods to tinker it.

  • An other way is using an HttpClient like there.

The option you choose also depends, I think, on what you intend to do with the retrieved html...

Inserting a text where cursor is using Javascript/jquery

Content Editable, HTML or any other DOM element Selections

If you are trying to insert at caret on a <div contenteditable="true">, this becomes much more difficult, especially if there are children within the editable container.

I have had really great luck using the Rangy library:

It has a ton of great features such as:

  • Save Position or Selection
  • Then later, Restore the Position or Selection
  • Get selection HTML or Plaintext
  • Among many others

The online demo was not working last I checked, however the repo has working demos. To get started, simple download the Repo from Git or NPM, then open ./rangy/demos/index.html

It makes working with caret pos and text selection a breeze!

What is the difference between _tmain() and main() in C++?

the _T convention is used to indicate the program should use the character set defined for the application (Unicode, ASCII, MBCS, etc.). You can surround your strings with _T( ) to have them stored in the correct format.

 cout << _T( "There are " ) << argc << _T( " arguments:" ) << endl;

How to print the value of a Tensor object in TensorFlow?

Enable the eager execution which is introduced in tensorflow after version 1.10. It's very easy to use.

a = tf.constant([1.0, 3.0])

print(a)

What's the most efficient way to erase duplicates and sort a vector?

If you don't want to modify the vector (erase, sort) then you can use the Newton library, In the algorithm sublibrary there is a function call, copy_single

template <class INPUT_ITERATOR, typename T>
    void copy_single( INPUT_ITERATOR first, INPUT_ITERATOR last, std::vector<T> &v )

so You can:

std::vector<TYPE> copy; // empty vector
newton::copy_single(first, last, copy);

where copy is the vector in where you want to push_back the copy of the unique elements. but remember you push_back the elements, and you don't create a new vector

anyway, this is faster because you don't erase() the elements (which takes a lot of time, except when you pop_back(), because of reassignment)

I make some experiments and it's faster.

Also, you can use:

std::vector<TYPE> copy; // empty vector
newton::copy_single(first, last, copy);
original = copy;

sometimes is still faster.

What should be the package name of android app?

Package name is the reversed domain name, it is a unique name for each application on Playstore. You can't upload two apps with the same package name. You can check package name of the app from playstore url

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=package_name

so you can easily check on playstore that this package name is in used by some other app or not before uploading it.

How do I query between two dates using MySQL?

Is date_field of type datetime? Also you need to put the eariler date first.

It should be:

SELECT * FROM `objects`
WHERE  (date_field BETWEEN '2010-01-30 14:15:55' AND '2010-09-29 10:15:55')

Get current batchfile directory

System read-only variable %CD% keeps the path of the caller of the batch, not the batch file location.

You can get the name of the batch script itself as typed by the user with %0 (e.g. scripts\mybatch.bat). Parameter extensions can be applied to this so %~dp0 will return the Drive and Path to the batch script (e.g. W:\scripts\) and %~f0 will return the full pathname (e.g. W:\scripts\mybatch.cmd).

You can refer to other files in the same folder as the batch script by using this syntax:

CALL %0\..\SecondBatch.cmd

This can even be used in a subroutine, Echo %0 will give the call label but, echo "%~nx0" will give you the filename of the batch script.

When the %0 variable is expanded, the result is enclosed in quotation marks.

More on batch parameters.

The difference between sys.stdout.write and print?

A difference between print and sys.stdout.write to point out in Python 3, is also the value which is returned when executed in the terminal. In Python 3, sys.stdout.write returns the length of the string whereas print returns just None.

So for example running following code interactively in the terminal would print out the string followed by its length, since the length is returned and output when run interactively:

>>> sys.stdout.write(" hi ")
 hi 4

The type arguments cannot be inferred from the usage. Try specifying the type arguments explicitly

In case it helps, I've ran into this problem when passing null into a parameter for a generic TValue, to get around this you have to cast your null values:

(string)null

(int)null

etc.

how to check if a file is a directory or regular file in python?

An educational example from the stat documentation:

       calling the callback function for each regular file'''

    for f in os.listdir(top):

        mode = os.stat(pathname)[ST_MODE]
        if S_ISDIR(mode):
            # It's a directory, recurse into it
            walktree(pathname, callback)
        elif S_ISREG(mode):
            # It's a file, call the callback function
            callback(pathname)
        else:
            # Unknown file type, print a message
            print 'Skipping %s' % pathname

def visitfile(file):
    print 'visiting', file

Reminder - \r\n or \n\r?

New line depends on your OS:

DOS & Windows: \r\n 0D0A (hex), 13,10 (decimal)
Unix & Mac OS X: \n, 0A, 10
Macintosh (OS 9): \r, 0D, 13

More details here: https://ccrma.stanford.edu/~craig/utility/flip/

When in doubt, use any freeware hex viewer/editor to see how a file encodes its new line.

For me, I use following guide to help me remember: 0D0A = \r\n = CR,LF = carriage return, line feed

Git: Create a branch from unstaged/uncommitted changes on master

No need to stash.

git checkout -b new_branch_name

does not touch your local changes. It just creates the branch from the current HEAD and sets the HEAD there. So I guess that's what you want.

--- Edit to explain the result of checkout master ---

Are you confused because checkout master does not discard your changes?

Since the changes are only local, git does not want you to lose them too easily. Upon changing branch, git does not overwrite your local changes. The result of your checkout master is:

M   testing

, which means that your working files are not clean. git did change the HEAD, but did not overwrite your local files. That is why your last status still show your local changes, although you are on master.

If you really want to discard the local changes, you have to force the checkout with -f.

git checkout master -f

Since your changes were never committed, you'd lose them.

Try to get back to your branch, commit your changes, then checkout the master again.

git checkout new_branch
git commit -a -m"edited"
git checkout master
git status

You should get a M message after the first checkout, but then not anymore after the checkout master, and git status should show no modified files.

--- Edit to clear up confusion about working directory (local files)---

In answer to your first comment, local changes are just... well, local. Git does not save them automatically, you must tell it to save them for later. If you make changes and do not explicitly commit or stash them, git will not version them. If you change HEAD (checkout master), the local changes are not overwritten since unsaved.

Copy entire directory contents to another directory?

With Groovy, you can leverage Ant to do:

new AntBuilder().copy( todir:'/path/to/destination/folder' ) {
  fileset( dir:'/path/to/src/folder' )
}

AntBuilder is part of the distribution and the automatic imports list which means it is directly available for any groovy code.

Why does the 'int' object is not callable error occur when using the sum() function?

In the interpreter its easy to restart it and fix such problems. If you don't want to restart the interpreter, there is another way to fix it:

Python 2.6.6 (r266:84292, Dec 27 2010, 00:02:40)
[GCC 4.4.5] on linux2
Type "help", "copyright", "credits" or "license" for more information.
>>> l = [1,2,3]
>>> sum(l)
6
>>> sum = 0 # oops! shadowed a builtin!
>>> sum(l)
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "<stdin>", line 1, in <module>
TypeError: 'int' object is not callable
>>> import sys
>>> sum = sys.modules['__builtin__'].sum # -- fixing sum
>>> sum(l)
6

This also comes in handy if you happened to assign a value to any other builtin, like dict or list

Best way to Bulk Insert from a C# DataTable

This is going to be largely dependent on the RDBMS you're using, and whether a .NET option even exists for that RDBMS.

If you're using SQL Server, use the SqlBulkCopy class.

For other database vendors, try googling for them specifically. For example a search for ".NET Bulk insert into Oracle" turned up some interesting results, including this link back to Stack Overflow: Bulk Insert to Oracle using .NET.

Resolving LNK4098: defaultlib 'MSVCRT' conflicts with

There are 4 versions of the CRT link libraries present in vc\lib:

  • libcmt.lib: static CRT link library for a release build (/MT)
  • libcmtd.lib: static CRT link library for a debug build (/MTd)
  • msvcrt.lib: import library for the release DLL version of the CRT (/MD)
  • msvcrtd.lib: import library for the debug DLL version of the CRT (/MDd)

Look at the linker options, Project + Properties, Linker, Command Line. Note how these libraries are not mentioned here. The linker automatically figures out what /M switch was used by the compiler and which .lib should be linked through a #pragma comment directive. Kinda important, you'd get horrible link errors and hard to diagnose runtime errors if there was a mismatch between the /M option and the .lib you link with.

You'll see the error message you quoted when the linker is told both to link to msvcrt.lib and libcmt.lib. Which will happen if you link code that was compiled with /MT with code that was linked with /MD. There can be only one version of the CRT.

/NODEFAULTLIB tells the linker to ignore the #pragma comment directive that was generated from the /MT compiled code. This might work, although a slew of other linker errors is not uncommon. Things like errno, which is a extern int in the static CRT version but macro-ed to a function in the DLL version. Many others like that.

Well, fix this problem the Right Way, find the .obj or .lib file that you are linking that was compiled with the wrong /M option. If you have no clue then you could find it by grepping the .obj/.lib files for "/MT"

Btw: the Windows executables (like version.dll) have their own CRT version to get their job done. It is located in c:\windows\system32, you cannot reliably use it for your own programs, its CRT headers are not available anywhere. The CRT DLL used by your program has a different name (like msvcrt90.dll).

Check file extension in upload form in PHP

file type can be checked in other ways also. I believe this is the easiest way to check the uploaded file type.. if u are dealing with an image file then go for the following code. if you are dealing with a video file then replace the image check with a video check in the if block.. have fun

     $img_up = $_FILES['video_file']['type'];
$img_up_type = explode("/", $img_up);
$img_up_type_firstpart = $img_up_type[0];

if($img_up_type_firstpart == "image") { // image is the image file type, you can deal with video if you need to check video file type

/* do your logical code */ }

There is of course a lubridate solution for this:

library(lubridate)
date <- "2009-10-01"

ymd(date) - 5
# [1] "2009-09-26"

is the same as

ymd(date) - days(5)
# [1] "2009-09-26"

Other time formats could be:

ymd(date) - months(5)
# [1] "2009-05-01"

ymd(date) - years(5)
# [1] "2004-10-01"

ymd(date) - years(1) - months(2) - days(3)
# [1] "2008-07-29"

loading json data from local file into React JS

The simplest and most effective way to make a file available to your component is this:

var data = require('json!./data.json');

Note the json! before the path

There is no ViewData item of type 'IEnumerable<SelectListItem>' that has the key 'xxx'

In my case, I found that I set the post method as private mistakenly. after changing private to public.

[HttpPost]
private async Task<ActionResult> OnPostRemoveForecasting(){}

change to

[HttpPost]
public async Task<ActionResult> OnPostRemoveForecasting(){}

Now works fine.

How to handle click event in Button Column in Datagridview?

You will add button column like this in your dataGridView

        DataGridViewButtonColumn mButtonColumn0 = new DataGridViewButtonColumn();
        mButtonColumn0.Name = "ColumnA";
        mButtonColumn0.Text = "ColumnA";

        if (dataGridView.Columns["ColumnA"] == null)
        {
            dataGridView.Columns.Insert(2, mButtonColumn0);
        }

Then you can add some actions inside cell click event. I found this is easiest way of doing it.

    private void dataGridView_CellClick(object sender, DataGridViewCellEventArgs e)
    {

        int rowIndex = e.RowIndex;
        int columnIndex = e.ColumnIndex;

        if (dataGridView.Rows[rowIndex].Cells[columnIndex].Selected == true && dataGridView.Columns[columnIndex].Name == "ColumnA")
         {
               //.... do any thing here.
         }

    }

I found that Cell Click event is automatically subscribed often. So I did not need this code below. However, if your cell click event is not subscribed, then add this line of code for your dataGridView.

     this.dataGridView.CellClick += new System.Windows.Forms.DataGridViewCellEventHandler(this.dataGridView_CellClick);

PHP + curl, HTTP POST sample code?

    curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER, true);
    curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_POSTFIELDS, $data);
    $response = curl_exec($ch);
    $error = curl_error($ch);
    curl_close($ch);

Javascript reduce() on Object

What you actually want in this case are the Object.values. Here is a concise ES6 implementation with that in mind:

const add = {
  a: {value:1},
  b: {value:2},
  c: {value:3}
}

const total = Object.values(add).reduce((t, {value}) => t + value, 0)

console.log(total) // 6

or simply:

const add = {
  a: 1,
  b: 2,
  c: 3
}

const total = Object.values(add).reduce((t, n) => t + n)

console.log(total) // 6

Where can I get Google developer key

Total number of items defined in an enum

A nifty trick I saw in a C answer to this question, just add a last element to the enum and use it to tell how many elements are in the enum:

enum MyType {
  Type1,
  Type2,
  Type3,
  NumberOfTypes
}

In the case where you're defining a start value other than 0, you can use NumberOfTypes - Type1 to ascertain the number of elements.

I'm unsure if this method would be faster than using Enum, and I'm also not sure if it would be considered the proper way to do this, since we have Enum to ascertain this information for us.

How to search file text for a pattern and replace it with a given value

Here's a solution for find/replace in all files of a given directory. Basically I took the answer provided by sepp2k and expanded it.

# First set the files to search/replace in
files = Dir.glob("/PATH/*")

# Then set the variables for find/replace
@original_string_or_regex = /REGEX/
@replacement_string = "STRING"

files.each do |file_name|
  text = File.read(file_name)
  replace = text.gsub!(@original_string_or_regex, @replacement_string)
  File.open(file_name, "w") { |file| file.puts replace }
end

org.xml.sax.SAXParseException: Premature end of file for *VALID* XML

In our case it was an empty AndroidManifest.xml.

While upgrading Eclispe we ran into the usual trouble, and AndroidManifest.xml must have been checked into SVN by the build script after being clobbered.

Found it by compiling from inside Eclipse, instead of from the command line.

How can an html element fill out 100% of the remaining screen height, using css only?

Reset identity seed after deleting records in SQL Server

Run this script to reset the identity column. You will need to make two changes. Replace tableXYZ with whatever table you need to update. Also, the name of the identity column needs dropped from the temp table. This was instantaneous on a table with 35,000 rows & 3 columns. Obviously, backup the table and first try this in a test environment.

select *
into #temp
From tableXYZ

set identity_insert tableXYZ ON

truncate table tableXYZ

alter table #temp drop column (nameOfIdentityColumn)

set identity_insert tableXYZ OFF

insert into tableXYZ
select * from #temp

Is HTML considered a programming language?

HTML is in no way a programming language.

Programming languages deals with ''proccessing functions'', etc. HTML just deals with the visual interface of a web page, where the actual programming handles the proccessing. PHP for example.

If anyone really knows programming, I really can't see how people can mistake HTML for an actual programming language.

Annotations from javax.validation.constraints not working

Great answer from atrain, but maybe better solution to catch exceptions is to utilize own HandlerExceptionResolver and catch

@Override
public ModelAndView resolveException(
    HttpServletRequest aReq,
    HttpServletResponse aRes,
    Object aHandler,
    Exception anExc
){
    // ....
    if(anExc instanceof MethodArgumentNotValidException) // do your handle error here
}

Then you're able to keep your handler as clean as possible. You don't need BindingResult, Model and SomeFormBean in myHandlerMethod anymore.

Styling twitter bootstrap buttons

Instead of changing CSS values one by one I would suggest to use LESS. Bootstrap has LESS version on Github: https://github.com/twbs/bootstrap

LESS allows you to define variables to change colors which makes it so much more convenient. Define color once and LESS compiles CSS file that changes the values globally. Saves time and effort.

How to place a JButton at a desired location in a JFrame using Java

Following line should be called before you add your component

pnlButton.setLayout(null);

Above will set your content panel to use absolute layout. This means you'd always have to set your component's bounds explicitly by using setBounds method.

In general I wouldn't recommend using absolute layout.

phonegap open link in browser

I'm using PhoneGap Build (v3.4.0), with focus on iOS, and I needed to have this entry in my config.xml for PhoneGap to recognize the InAppBrowser plug-in.

<gap:plugin name="org.apache.cordova.inappbrowser" />

After that, using window.open(url, target) should work as expected, as documented here.

Python list / sublist selection -1 weirdness

when slicing an array;

ls[y:x]

takes the slice from element y upto and but not including x. when you use the negative indexing it is equivalent to using

ls[y:-1] == ls[y:len(ls)-1]

so it so the slice would be upto the last element, but it wouldn't include it (as per the slice)

getDate with Jquery Datepicker

Instead of parsing day, month and year you can specify date formats directly using datepicker's formatDate function. In my example I am using "yy-mm-dd", but you can use any format of your choice.

$("#datepicker").datepicker({
    dateFormat: 'yy-mm-dd',
    inline: true,
    minDate: new Date(2010, 1 - 1, 1),
    maxDate: new Date(2010, 12 - 1, 31),
    altField: '#datepicker_value',
    onSelect: function(){
        var fullDate = $.datepicker.formatDate("yy-mm-dd", $(this).datepicker('getDate'));
        var str_output = "<h1><center><img src=\"/images/a" + fullDate +".png\"></center></h1><br/><br>";
        $('#page_output').html(str_output);
    }
});

Is unsigned integer subtraction defined behavior?

With unsigned numbers of type unsigned int or larger, in the absence of type conversions, a-b is defined as yielding the unsigned number which, when added to b, will yield a. Conversion of a negative number to unsigned is defined as yielding the number which, when added to the sign-reversed original number, will yield zero (so converting -5 to unsigned will yield a value which, when added to 5, will yield zero).

Note that unsigned numbers smaller than unsigned int may get promoted to type int before the subtraction, the behavior of a-b will depend upon the size of int.

C++ How do I convert a std::chrono::time_point to long and back

Converting from signed char to unsigned char and back again?

I'm not 100% sure that I understand your question, so tell me if I'm wrong.

If I got it right, you are reading jbytes that are technically signed chars, but really pixel values ranging from 0 to 255, and you're wondering how you should handle them without corrupting the values in the process.

Then, you should do the following:

  • convert jbytes to unsigned char before doing anything else, this will definetly restore the pixel values you are trying to manipulate

  • use a larger signed integer type, such as int while doing intermediate calculations, this to make sure that over- and underflows can be detected and dealt with (in particular, not casting to a signed type could force to compiler to promote every type to an unsigned type in which case you wouldn't be able to detect underflows later on)

  • when assigning back to a jbyte, you'll want to clamp your value to the 0-255 range, convert to unsigned char and then convert again to signed char: I'm not certain the first conversion is strictly necessary, but you just can't be wrong if you do both

For example:

inline int fromJByte(jbyte pixel) {
    // cast to unsigned char re-interprets values as 0-255
    // cast to int will make intermediate calculations safer
    return static_cast<int>(static_cast<unsigned char>(pixel));
}

inline jbyte fromInt(int pixel) {
    if(pixel < 0)
        pixel = 0;

    if(pixel > 255)
        pixel = 255;

    return static_cast<jbyte>(static_cast<unsigned char>(pixel));
}

jbyte in = ...
int intermediate = fromJByte(in) + 30;
jbyte out = fromInt(intermediate);

Generating Random Number In Each Row In Oracle Query

Find all table names with column name?

Try Like This: For SQL SERVER 2008+

SELECT c.name AS ColName, t.name AS TableName
FROM sys.columns c
    JOIN sys.tables t ON c.object_id = t.object_id
WHERE c.name LIKE '%MyColumnaName%'

Or

SELECT COLUMN_NAME, TABLE_NAME
FROM INFORMATION_SCHEMA.COLUMNS
WHERE COLUMN_NAME LIKE '%MyName%'

Or Something Like This:

SELECT name
FROM sys.tables
WHERE OBJECT_ID IN ( SELECT id
              FROM syscolumns
              WHERE name like '%COlName%' )

String Pattern Matching In Java

If you want to check if some string is present in another string, use something like String.contains

If you want to check if some pattern is present in a string, append and prepend the pattern with '.*'. The result will accept strings that contain the pattern.

Example: Suppose you have some regex a(b|c) that checks if a string matches ab or ac
.*(a(b|c)).* will check if a string contains a ab or ac.

A disadvantage of this method is that it will not give you the location of the match.

How to solve PHP error 'Notice: Array to string conversion in...'

Array to string conversion in latest versions of php 7.x is error, rather than notice, and prevents further code execution.

Using print, echo on array is not an option anymore.

Suppressing errors and notices is not a good practice, especially when in development environment and still debugging code.

Use var_dump,print_r, iterate through input value using foreach or for to output input data for names that are declared as input arrays ('name[]')

Most common practice to catch errors is using try/catch blocks, that helps us prevent interruption of code execution that might cause possible errors wrapped within try block.

  try{ //wrap around possible cause of error or notice

    if(!empty($_POST['C'])){
        echo $_POST['C'];
    }

  }catch(Exception $e){

    //handle the error message $e->getMessage();
  }

Could not load type 'System.ServiceModel.Activation.HttpModule' from assembly 'System.ServiceModel, Version=3.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089 This error can occur when there are multiple versions of the .NET Framework on the computer that is running IIS, and IIS was installed after .NET Framework 4.0 or before the Service Model in Windows Communication Foundation was registered.

For Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008, use the ASP.NET IIS Registration Tool (aspnet_regiis.exe,) to register the correct version of ASP.NET. For more information about the aspnet_regiis.exe, see ASP.NET IIS Registration Tool at Microsoft web site.

How can I tell jaxb / Maven to generate multiple schema packages?

I encountered a lot of problems when using jaxb in Maven but i managed to solve your problem by doing the following

First create a schema.xjc file

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<jaxb:bindings xmlns:jaxb="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/jaxb"
               xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema"
               jaxb:version="2.0">
    <jaxb:bindings schemaLocation="YOUR_URL?wsdl#types?schema1">
        <jaxb:schemaBindings>
            <jaxb:package name="your.package.name.schema1"/>
        </jaxb:schemaBindings>
    </jaxb:bindings>
    <jaxb:bindings schemaLocation="YOUR_URL??wsdl#types?schema2">
        <jaxb:schemaBindings>
            <jaxb:package name="your.package.name.schema2"/>
        </jaxb:schemaBindings>
    </jaxb:bindings>
</jaxb:bindings>

The package name can be anything you want it to be, as long as it doesn't contain any reserved keywords in Java

Next you have to create the wsimport.bat script to generate your packaged and code at the preferred location.

cd C:\YOUR\PATH\TO\PLACE\THE\PACKAGES
wsimport -keep -verbose -b "C:\YOUR\PATH\TO\schema.xjb" YOUR_URL?wsdl
pause

If you do not want to use cd, you can put the wsimport.bat in "C:\YOUR\PATH\TO\PLACE\THE\PACKAGES"

If you run it without -keep -verbose it will only generate the packages but not the .java files.

The -b will make sure the schema.xjc is used when generating

jquery .live('click') vs .click()

Always use click if you not dynamically add elements.

live works by adding an event listener to the document root and listens for bubbled up events. An alternative is delegate, which works the same, but binds the event handler to the specified element.
This way, the event has not to bubble up the whole DOM and is caught earlier.

date() method, "A non well formed numeric value encountered" does not want to format a date passed in $_POST

From the documentation for strtotime():

Dates in the m/d/y or d-m-y formats are disambiguated by looking at the separator between the various components: if the separator is a slash (/), then the American m/d/y is assumed; whereas if the separator is a dash (-) or a dot (.), then the European d-m-y format is assumed.

In your date string, you have 12-16-2013. 16 isn't a valid month, and hence strtotime() returns false.

Since you can't use DateTime class, you could manually replace the - with / using str_replace() to convert the date string into a format that strtotime() understands:

$date = '2-16-2013';
echo date('Y-m-d', strtotime(str_replace('-','/', $date))); // => 2013-02-16

Find the index of a char in string?

"abcdefgh..".IndexOf("d")

returns 3

In general returns first occurrence index, if not present returns -1

How to create a showdown.js markdown extension

In your last block you have a comma after 'lang', followed immediately with a function. This is not valid json.

EDIT

It appears that the readme was incorrect. I had to to pass an array with the string 'twitter'.

var converter = new Showdown.converter({extensions: ['twitter']}); converter.makeHtml('whatever @meandave2020'); // output "<p>whatever <a href="http://twitter.com/meandave2020">@meandave2020</a></p>"

I submitted a pull request to update this.

Copy files on Windows Command Line with Progress

You could easily write a program to do that, I've got several that I've written, that display bytes copied as the file is being copied. If you're interested, comment and I'll post a link to one.
