Programs & Examples On #Uiimagepickercontroller

Questions related to the iOS UIImagePickerController class (and the associated UIImagePickerControllerDelegate protocol), which provides system-supplied user interfaces for taking pictures and movies on iOS devices, and for choosing saved images and movies.

iOS UIImagePickerController result image orientation after upload

@an0, thanks for the answer!
The only thing is autoreleasepool:

func fixOrientation(img: UIImage) -> UIImage? {

    let result: UIImage?
    if img.imageOrientation == .up {
        result = img
    } else {

        result = autoreleasepool { () -> UIImage? in
            UIGraphicsBeginImageContextWithOptions(img.size, false, img.scale)
            let rect = CGRect(x: 0, y: 0, width: img.size.width, height: img.size.height)
            img.draw(in: rect)

            let normalizedImage = UIGraphicsGetImageFromCurrentImageContext()
            UIGraphicsEndImageContext()

            return normalizedImage
        }
    }

    return result
}

Adding images or videos to iPhone Simulator

With the drag and drop feature you will lose all the metadata of the photos.

I've created a project that make it really easy to import assets to the simulator: MBAssetsImporter.

It enables you to import both videos and photos while preserving all the original metadata of the files.

iOS 8 Snapshotting a view that has not been rendered results in an empty snapshot

I'm pretty sure this is just a bug in iOS 8.0. It's reproducible with the simplest of POC apps that does nothing more than attempt to present a UIImagePickerController like you're doing above. Furthermore, there's no alternative pattern to displaying the image picker/camera, to my knowledge. You can even download Apple's Using UIImagePickerController sample app, run it, and it will generate the same error out of the box.

That said, the functionality still works for me. Other than the warning/error, do you have issues with the functioning of your app?

Can I load a UIImage from a URL?

If you're really, absolutely positively sure that the NSURL is a file url, i.e. [url isFileURL] is guaranteed to return true in your case, then you can simply use:

[UIImage imageWithContentsOfFile:url.path]

How to allow user to pick the image with Swift?

Complete copy-paste working image picker for swift 4 based on @user3182143 answer:

import Foundation
import UIKit

class ImagePickerManager: NSObject, UIImagePickerControllerDelegate, UINavigationControllerDelegate {

    var picker = UIImagePickerController();
    var alert = UIAlertController(title: "Choose Image", message: nil, preferredStyle: .actionSheet)
    var viewController: UIViewController?
    var pickImageCallback : ((UIImage) -> ())?;

    override init(){
        super.init()
        let cameraAction = UIAlertAction(title: "Camera", style: .default){
            UIAlertAction in
            self.openCamera()
        }
        let galleryAction = UIAlertAction(title: "Gallery", style: .default){
            UIAlertAction in
            self.openGallery()
        }
        let cancelAction = UIAlertAction(title: "Cancel", style: .cancel){
            UIAlertAction in
        }

        // Add the actions
        picker.delegate = self
        alert.addAction(cameraAction)
        alert.addAction(galleryAction)
        alert.addAction(cancelAction)
    }

    func pickImage(_ viewController: UIViewController, _ callback: @escaping ((UIImage) -> ())) {
        pickImageCallback = callback;
        self.viewController = viewController;

        alert.popoverPresentationController?.sourceView = self.viewController!.view

        viewController.present(alert, animated: true, completion: nil)
    }
    func openCamera(){
        alert.dismiss(animated: true, completion: nil)
        if(UIImagePickerController .isSourceTypeAvailable(.camera)){
            picker.sourceType = .camera
            self.viewController!.present(picker, animated: true, completion: nil)
        } else {
            let alertWarning = UIAlertView(title:"Warning", message: "You don't have camera", delegate:nil, cancelButtonTitle:"OK", otherButtonTitles:"")
            alertWarning.show()
        }
    }
    func openGallery(){
        alert.dismiss(animated: true, completion: nil)
        picker.sourceType = .photoLibrary
        self.viewController!.present(picker, animated: true, completion: nil)
    }

    func imagePickerControllerDidCancel(_ picker: UIImagePickerController) {
        picker.dismiss(animated: true, completion: nil)
    }
    //for swift below 4.2
    //func imagePickerController(_ picker: UIImagePickerController, didFinishPickingMediaWithInfo info: [String : Any]) {
    //    picker.dismiss(animated: true, completion: nil)
    //    let image = info[UIImagePickerControllerOriginalImage] as! UIImage
    //    pickImageCallback?(image)
    //}

    // For Swift 4.2+
    func imagePickerController(_ picker: UIImagePickerController, didFinishPickingMediaWithInfo info: [UIImagePickerController.InfoKey : Any]) {
        picker.dismiss(animated: true, completion: nil)
        guard let image = info[.originalImage] as? UIImage else {
            fatalError("Expected a dictionary containing an image, but was provided the following: \(info)")
        }
        pickImageCallback?(image)
    }

    @objc func imagePickerController(_ picker: UIImagePickerController, pickedImage: UIImage?) {
    }

}

Call it from your viewcontroller like this:

    ImagePickerManager().pickImage(self){ image in
        //here is the image
    }

Also don't forget to include the following keys in your info.plist:

<key>NSCameraUsageDescription</key>
<string>This app requires access to the camera.</string>
<key>NSPhotoLibraryUsageDescription</key>
<string>This app requires access to the photo library.</string>

Cropping an UIImage

None of the answers here handle all of the scale and rotation issues 100% correctly. Here's a synthesis of everything said so far, up-to-date as of iOS7/8. It's meant to be included as a method in a category on UIImage.

- (UIImage *)croppedImageInRect:(CGRect)rect
{
    double (^rad)(double) = ^(double deg) {
        return deg / 180.0 * M_PI;
    };

    CGAffineTransform rectTransform;
    switch (self.imageOrientation) {
        case UIImageOrientationLeft:
            rectTransform = CGAffineTransformTranslate(CGAffineTransformMakeRotation(rad(90)), 0, -self.size.height);
            break;
        case UIImageOrientationRight:
            rectTransform = CGAffineTransformTranslate(CGAffineTransformMakeRotation(rad(-90)), -self.size.width, 0);
            break;
        case UIImageOrientationDown:
            rectTransform = CGAffineTransformTranslate(CGAffineTransformMakeRotation(rad(-180)), -self.size.width, -self.size.height);
            break;
        default:
            rectTransform = CGAffineTransformIdentity;
    };
    rectTransform = CGAffineTransformScale(rectTransform, self.scale, self.scale);

    CGImageRef imageRef = CGImageCreateWithImageInRect([self CGImage], CGRectApplyAffineTransform(rect, rectTransform));
    UIImage *result = [UIImage imageWithCGImage:imageRef scale:self.scale orientation:self.imageOrientation];
    CGImageRelease(imageRef);

    return result;
}

Automatically deleting related rows in Laravel (Eloquent ORM)

Relation in User model:

public function photos()
{
    return $this->hasMany('Photo');
}

Delete record and related:

$user = User::find($id);

// delete related
$user->photos()->delete();

$user->delete();

When and where to use GetType() or typeof()?

typeof is an operator to obtain a type known at compile-time (or at least a generic type parameter). The operand of typeof is always the name of a type or type parameter - never an expression with a value (e.g. a variable). See the C# language specification for more details.

GetType() is a method you call on individual objects, to get the execution-time type of the object.

Note that unless you only want exactly instances of TextBox (rather than instances of subclasses) you'd usually use:

if (myControl is TextBox)
{
    // Whatever
}

Or

TextBox tb = myControl as TextBox;
if (tb != null)
{
    // Use tb
}

window.location.href and window.open () methods in JavaScript

There are already answers which describes about window.location.href property and window.open() method.

I will go by Objective use:

1. To redirect the page to another

Use window.location.href. Set href property to the href of another page.

2. Open link in the new or specific window.

Use window.open(). Pass parameters as per your goal.

3. Know current address of the page

Use window.location.href. Get value of window.location.href property. You can also get specific protocol, hostname, hashstring from window.location object.

See Location Object for more information.

how to create Socket connection in Android?

Simple socket server app example

I've already posted a client example at: https://stackoverflow.com/a/35971718/895245 , so here goes a server example.

This example app runs a server that returns a ROT-1 cypher of the input.

You would then need to add an Exit button + some sleep delays, but this should get you started.

To play with it:

Android sockets are the same as Java's, except we have to deal with some permission issues.

Storing integer values as constants in Enum manner in java

You could store that const value in the enum like so. But why even use the const? Are you persisting the enum's?

public class SO3990319 {
   public static enum PAGE {
      SIGN_CREATE(1);
      private final int constValue;

      private PAGE(int constValue) {
         this.constValue = constValue;
      }

      public int constValue() {
         return constValue;
      }
   }

   public static void main(String[] args) {
      System.out.println("Name:    " + PAGE.SIGN_CREATE.name());
      System.out.println("Ordinal: " + PAGE.SIGN_CREATE.ordinal());
      System.out.println("Const:   " + PAGE.SIGN_CREATE.constValue());

      System.out.println("Enum: " + PAGE.valueOf("SIGN_CREATE"));
   }
}

Edit:

It depends on what you're using the int's for whether to use EnumMap or instance field.

"Invalid form control" only in Google Chrome

I was getting this error, and determined it was actually on a field that was not hidden.

In this case, it was a type="number" field, that is required. When no value has ever been entered into this field, the error message is shown in the console, and the form is not submitted. Entering a value, and then removing it means that the validation error is shown as expected.

I believe this is a bug in Chrome: my workaround for now was to come up with an initial/default value.

Invalid date in safari

Arriving late to the party but in our case we were getting this issue in Safari & iOS when using ES6 back tick instead of String() to type cast

This was giving 'invalid date' error

const dateString = '2011-11-18';
const dateObj = new Date(`${dateString}`);

But this works

const dateObj = new Date(String(dateString));

In Java 8 how do I transform a Map<K,V> to another Map<K,V> using a lambda?

Here is another way that gives you access to the key and the value at the same time, in case you have to do some kind of transformation.

Map<String, Integer> pointsByName = new HashMap<>();
Map<String, Integer> maxPointsByName = new HashMap<>();

Map<String, Double> gradesByName = pointsByName.entrySet().stream()
        .map(entry -> new AbstractMap.SimpleImmutableEntry<>(
                entry.getKey(), ((double) entry.getValue() /
                        maxPointsByName.get(entry.getKey())) * 100d))
        .collect(Collectors.toMap(Map.Entry::getKey, Map.Entry::getValue));

How do Common Names (CN) and Subject Alternative Names (SAN) work together?

This depends on implementation, but the general rule is that the domain is checked against all SANs and the common name. If the domain is found there, then the certificate is ok for connection.

RFC 5280, section 4.1.2.6 says "The subject name MAY be carried in the subject field and/or the subjectAltName extension". This means that the domain name must be checked against both SubjectAltName extension and Subject property (namely it's common name parameter) of the certificate. These two places complement each other, and not duplicate it. And SubjectAltName is a proper place to put additional names, such as www.domain.com or www2.domain.com

Update: as per RFC 6125, published in 2011, the validator must check SAN first, and if SAN exists, then CN should not be checked. Note that RFC 6125 is relatively recent and there still exist certificates and CAs that issue certificates, which include the "main" domain name in CN and alternative domain names in SAN. I.e. by excluding CN from validation if SAN is present, you can deny some otherwise valid certificate.

How do you connect to multiple MySQL databases on a single webpage?

Warning : mysql_xx functions are deprecated since php 5.5 and removed since php 7.0 (see http://php.net/manual/intro.mysql.php), use mysqli_xx functions or see the answer below from @Troelskn

You can make multiple calls to mysql_connect(), but if the parameters are the same you need to pass true for the '$new_link' (fourth) parameter, otherwise the same connection is reused. For example:

$dbh1 = mysql_connect($hostname, $username, $password);
$dbh2 = mysql_connect($hostname, $username, $password, true);

mysql_select_db('database1', $dbh1);
mysql_select_db('database2', $dbh2);

Then to query database 1 pass the first link identifier:

mysql_query('select * from tablename', $dbh1);

and for database 2 pass the second:

mysql_query('select * from tablename', $dbh2);

If you do not pass a link identifier then the last connection created is used (in this case the one represented by $dbh2) e.g.:

mysql_query('select * from tablename');

Other options

If the MySQL user has access to both databases and they are on the same host (i.e. both DBs are accessible from the same connection) you could:

  • Keep one connection open and call mysql_select_db() to swap between as necessary. I am not sure this is a clean solution and you could end up querying the wrong database.
  • Specify the database name when you reference tables within your queries (e.g. SELECT * FROM database2.tablename). This is likely to be a pain to implement.

Also please read troelskn's answer because that is a better approach if you are able to use PDO rather than the older extensions.

Count a list of cells with the same background color

I just created this and it looks easier. You get these 2 functions:

=GetColorIndex(E5) <- returns color number for the cell

from (cell)

=CountColorIndexInRange(C7:C24,14) <- returns count of cells C7:C24 with color 14

from (range of cells, color number you want to count)

example shows percent of cells with color 14

=ROUND(CountColorIndexInRange(C7:C24,14)/18, 4 )

Create these 2 VBA functions in a Module (hit Alt-F11)

open + folders. double-click on Module1

Just paste this text below in, then close the module window (it must save it then):

Function GetColorIndex(Cell As Range)
  GetColorIndex = Cell.Interior.ColorIndex
End Function

Function CountColorIndexInRange(Rng As Range, TestColor As Long)
  Dim cnt
  Dim cl As Range
  cnt = 0

  For Each cl In Rng
    If GetColorIndex(cl) = TestColor Then
      Rem Debug.Print ">" & TestColor & "<"
      cnt = cnt + 1
    End If
  Next

  CountColorIndexInRange = cnt

End Function

Is it possible to have placeholders in strings.xml for runtime values?

Kotlin version of the accepted answer...

Sublime Text 2 - Show file navigation in sidebar

I added the Context Menu item for Folders to open in Sublime Text. In windows, you can right click on any Folder and open the structure in Sublime. You could also create a service (?) for Mac OS - I'm just not familiar with the process.

The following could be saved to a File (OpenFolderWithSublime.reg) to merge to the registry. Be Sure to modify the directory structure to appropriately point to your Sublime installation. Alternatively, you can use REGEDIT and browse to HKCR\Folder\shell and create the values manually.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shell\Open with Sublime Text]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shell\Open with Sublime Text\command]

When and why do I need to use cin.ignore() in C++?

As pointed right by many other users. It's because there may be whitespace or a newline character.

Consider the following code, it removes all the duplicate characters from a given string.

#include <bits/stdc++.h>
using namespace std;

int main() {
    int t;
    cin>>t;
    cin.ignore(); //Notice that this cin.ignore() is really crucial for any extra whitespace or newline character
    while(t--){
        vector<int> v(256,0);
        string s;
        getline(cin,s);
        string s2;
        for(int i=0;i<s.size();i++){
            if (v[s[i]]) continue;
            else{
                s2.push_back(s[i]);
                v[s[i]]++;
            }
        }
        cout<<s2<<endl;
    }
    return 0;
}

So, You get the point that it will ignore those unwanted inputs and will get the job done.

Redirecting to a page after submitting form in HTML

For anyone else having the same problem, I figured it out myself.

_x000D_
_x000D_
    <html>_x000D_
      <body>_x000D_
        <form target="_blank" action="https://website.com/action.php" method="POST">_x000D_
          <input type="hidden" name="fullname" value="Sam" />_x000D_
          <input type="hidden" name="city" value="Dubai&#32;" />_x000D_
          <input onclick="window.location.href = 'https://website.com/my-account';" type="submit" value="Submit request" />_x000D_
        </form>_x000D_
      </body>_x000D_
    </html>
_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_

All I had to do was add the target="_blank" attribute to inline on form to open the response in a new page and redirect the other page using onclick on the submit button.

C++ convert from 1 char to string?

All of

std::string s(1, c); std::cout << s << std::endl;

and

std::cout << std::string(1, c) << std::endl;

and

std::string s; s.push_back(c); std::cout << s << std::endl;

worked for me.

Implement an input with a mask

You can achieve this also by using JavaScripts's native method. Its pretty simple and doesn't require any extra library to import.

<input type="text" name="date" placeholder="yyyy-mm-dd" onkeyup="
  var date = this.value;
  if (date.match(/^\d{4}$/) !== null) {
     this.value = date + '-';
  } else if (date.match(/^\d{4}\-\d{2}$/) !== null) {
     this.value = date + '-';
  }" maxlength="10">

How to create JSON object using jQuery

Just put your data into an Object like this:

var myObject = new Object();
myObject.name = "John";
myObject.age = 12;
myObject.pets = ["cat", "dog"];

Afterwards stringify it via:

var myString = JSON.stringify(myObject);

You don't need jQuery for this. It's pure JS.

Docker: adding a file from a parent directory

Since -f caused another problem, I developed another solution.

  • Create a base image in the parent folder
  • Added the required files.
  • Used this image as a base image for the project which in a descendant folder.

The -f flag does not solved my problem because my onbuild image looks for a file in a folder and had to call like this:

-f foo/bar/Dockerfile foo/bar

instead of

-f foo/bar/Dockerfile .

Also note that this is only solution for some cases as -f flag

How to purge tomcat's cache when deploying a new .war file? Is there a config setting?

A little late for the party, here's how I do it

  1. Undeploy application from manager
  2. Shutdown tomcat using ./shutdown.sh
  3. Delete browser cache
  4. Delete the application from webapps, and from /work/Catalina/...
  5. Startup tomcat using ./startup.sh
  6. Copy the new version of the application into /webapps and start it.

How do I get values from a SQL database into textboxes using C#?

If you want to display single value access from database into textbox, please refer to the code below:

SqlConnection con=new SqlConnection("connection string");
SqlCommand cmd=new SqlConnection(SqlQuery,Con);
Con.Open();
TextBox1.Text=cmd.ExecuteScalar();
Con.Close();

or

SqlConnection con=new SqlConnection("connection string");
SqlCommand cmd=new SqlConnection(SqlQuery,Con);
Con.Open();
SqlDataReader dr=new SqlDataReadr();
dr=cmd.Executereader();
if(dr.read())
{
    TextBox1.Text=dr.GetValue(0).Tostring();
}
Con.Close();

How to check if BigDecimal variable == 0 in java?

You would want to use equals() since they are objects, and utilize the built in ZERO instance:

if (selectPrice.equals(BigDecimal.ZERO))

Note that .equals() takes scale into account, so unless selectPrice is the same scale (0) as .ZERO then this will return false.

To take scale out of the equation as it were:

if (selectPrice.compareTo(BigDecimal.ZERO) == 0)

I should note that for certain mathematical situations, 0.00 != 0, which is why I imagine .equals() takes the scale into account. 0.00 gives precision to the hundredths place, whereas 0 is not that precise. Depending on the situation you may want to stick with .equals().

Image scaling causes poor quality in firefox/internet explorer but not chrome

I've seen the same thing in firefox, css transform scaled transparent png's looking very rough.

I noticed that when they previously had a background color set the quality was much better, so I tried setting an RGBA background with as low an opacity value as possible.

background:rgba(255,255,255,0.001);

This worked for me, give it a try.

What is the purpose of shuffling and sorting phase in the reducer in Map Reduce Programming?

First of all shuffling is the process of transfering data from the mappers to the reducers, so I think it is obvious that it is necessary for the reducers, since otherwise, they wouldn't be able to have any input (or input from every mapper). Shuffling can start even before the map phase has finished, to save some time. That's why you can see a reduce status greater than 0% (but less than 33%) when the map status is not yet 100%.

Sorting saves time for the reducer, helping it easily distinguish when a new reduce task should start. It simply starts a new reduce task, when the next key in the sorted input data is different than the previous, to put it simply. Each reduce task takes a list of key-value pairs, but it has to call the reduce() method which takes a key-list(value) input, so it has to group values by key. It's easy to do so, if input data is pre-sorted (locally) in the map phase and simply merge-sorted in the reduce phase (since the reducers get data from many mappers).

Partitioning, that you mentioned in one of the answers, is a different process. It determines in which reducer a (key, value) pair, output of the map phase, will be sent. The default Partitioner uses a hashing on the keys to distribute them to the reduce tasks, but you can override it and use your own custom Partitioner.

A great source of information for these steps is this Yahoo tutorial (archived).

A nice graphical representation of this is the following (shuffle is called "copy" in this figure):

enter image description here

Note that shuffling and sorting are not performed at all if you specify zero reducers (setNumReduceTasks(0)). Then, the MapReduce job stops at the map phase, and the map phase does not include any kind of sorting (so even the map phase is faster).

UPDATE: Since you are looking for something more official, you can also read Tom White's book "Hadoop: The Definitive Guide". Here is the interesting part for your question.
Tom White has been an Apache Hadoop committer since February 2007, and is a member of the Apache Software Foundation, so I guess it is pretty credible and official...

What is EOF in the C programming language?

Couple of typos:

while((c = getchar())!= EOF)

in place of:

while((c = getchar() != EOF))

Also getchar() treats a return key as a valid input, so you need to buffer it too.EOF is a marker to indicate end of input. Generally it is an int with all bits set.

#include <stdio.h>
int main()
{
 int c;
 while((c = getchar())!= EOF)
 {
  if( getchar() == EOF )
    break;
  printf(" %d\n", c);
 }
  printf("%d %u %x- at EOF\n", c , c, c);
}

prints:

49
50
-1 4294967295 ffffffff- at EOF

for input:

1
2
<ctrl-d>

How to process SIGTERM signal gracefully?

The simplest solution I have found, taking inspiration by responses above is

class SignalHandler:

    def __init__(self):

        # register signal handlers
        signal.signal(signal.SIGINT, self.exit_gracefully)
        signal.signal(signal.SIGTERM, self.exit_gracefully)

        self.logger = Logger(level=ERROR)

    def exit_gracefully(self, signum, frame):
        self.logger.info('captured signal %d' % signum)
        traceback.print_stack(frame)

Error during SSL Handshake with remote server

I have 2 servers setup on docker, reverse proxy & web server. This error started happening for all my websites all of a sudden after 1 year. When setting up earlier, I generated a self signed certificate on the web server.

So, I had to generate the SSL certificate again and it started working...

openssl req -x509 -nodes -days 365 -newkey rsa:2048 -keyout ssl.key -out ssl.crt

Reduce git repository size

git gc --aggressive is one way to force the prune process to take place (to be sure: git gc --aggressive --prune=now). You have other commands to clean the repo too. Don't forget though, sometimes git gc alone can increase the size of the repo!

It can be also used after a filter-branch, to mark some directories to be removed from the history (with a further gain of space); see here. But that means nobody is pulling from your public repo. filter-branch can keep backup refs in .git/refs/original, so that directory can be cleaned too.

Finally, as mentioned in this comment and this question; cleaning the reflog can help:

git reflog expire --all --expire=now
git gc --prune=now --aggressive

An even more complete, and possibly dangerous, solution is to remove unused objects from a git repository

Update Feb. 2021, eleven years later: the new git maintenance command (man page) should supersede git gc, and can be scheduled.

How can I add a username and password to Jenkins?

You need to Enable security and set the security realm on the Configure Global Security page (see: Standard Security Setup) and choose the appropriate Authorization method (Security Realm).

Jenkins Security Realm, Hudson's own user database

Depending on your selection, create the user using appropriate method. Recommended method is to select Jenkins’ own user database and tick Allow users to sign up, hit Save button, then you should be able to create user from the Jenkins interface. Otherwise if you've chosen external database, you need to create the user there (e.g. if it's Unix database, use credentials of existing Linux/Unix users or create a standard user using shell interface).

What should my Objective-C singleton look like?

Just wanted to leave this here so I don't lose it. The advantage to this one is that it's usable in InterfaceBuilder, which is a HUGE advantage. This is taken from another question that I asked:

How can I see the entire HTTP request that's being sent by my Python application?

You can use HTTP Toolkit to do exactly this.

It's especially useful if you need to do this quickly, with no code changes: you can open a terminal from HTTP Toolkit, run any Python code from there as normal, and you'll be able to see the full content of every HTTP/HTTPS request immediately.

There's a free version that can do everything you need, and it's 100% open source.

I'm the creator of HTTP Toolkit; I actually built it myself to solve the exact same problem for me a while back! I too was trying to debug a payment integration, but their SDK didn't work, I couldn't tell why, and I needed to know what was actually going on to properly fix it. It's very frustrating, but being able to see the raw traffic really helps.

printing a two dimensional array in python

In addition to the simple print answer, you can actually customise the print output through the use of the numpy.set_printoptions function.

Prerequisites:

>>> import numpy as np
>>> inf = np.float('inf')
>>> A = np.array([[0,1,4,inf,3],[1,0,2,inf,4],[4,2,0,1,5],[inf,inf,1,0,3],[3,4,5,3,0]])

The following option:

>>> np.set_printoptions(infstr="(infinity)")

Results in:

>>> print(A)
[[        0.         1.         4. (infinity)         3.]
 [        1.         0.         2. (infinity)         4.]
 [        4.         2.         0.         1.         5.]
 [(infinity) (infinity)         1.         0.         3.]
 [        3.         4.         5.         3.         0.]]

The following option:

>>> np.set_printoptions(formatter={'float': "\t{: 0.0f}\t".format})

Results in:

>>> print(A)
[[   0       1       4       inf     3  ]
 [   1       0       2       inf     4  ]
 [   4       2       0       1       5  ]
 [   inf     inf     1       0       3  ]
 [   3       4       5       3       0  ]]

If you just want to have a specific string output for a specific array, the function numpy.array2string is also available.

Simple and fast method to compare images for similarity

Can the screenshot or icon be transformed (scaled, rotated, skewed ...)? There are quite a few methods on top of my head that could possibly help you:

  • Simple euclidean distance as mentioned by @carlosdc (doesn't work with transformed images and you need a threshold).
  • (Normalized) Cross Correlation - a simple metrics which you can use for comparison of image areas. It's more robust than the simple euclidean distance but doesn't work on transformed images and you will again need a threshold.
  • Histogram comparison - if you use normalized histograms, this method works well and is not affected by affine transforms. The problem is determining the correct threshold. It is also very sensitive to color changes (brightness, contrast etc.). You can combine it with the previous two.
  • Detectors of salient points/areas - such as MSER (Maximally Stable Extremal Regions), SURF or SIFT. These are very robust algorithms and they might be too complicated for your simple task. Good thing is that you do not have to have an exact area with only one icon, these detectors are powerful enough to find the right match. A nice evaluation of these methods is in this paper: Local invariant feature detectors: a survey.

Most of these are already implemented in OpenCV - see for example the cvMatchTemplate method (uses histogram matching): http://dasl.mem.drexel.edu/~noahKuntz/openCVTut6.html. The salient point/area detectors are also available - see OpenCV Feature Detection.

How do I clear my local working directory in Git?

You could create a commit which contains an empty working copy.

This is a generally safe, non-destructive approach because it does not involve the use of any brute-force reset mechanisms. First you hide all managed content with git checkout empty, then you are free to manually review and remove whatever unmanaged content remains.

## create a stand-alone, tagged, empty commit
true | git mktree | xargs git commit-tree | xargs git tag empty

## clear the working copy
git checkout empty

Your working copy should now be clear of any managed content. All that remains are unmanaged files and the .git folder itself.

To re-populate your working copy...

git checkout master ## or whatever branch you will be using

If you're a forward thinking individual, you might start your repository off on the right foot by basing everything on an initial empty commit...

git init
git commit --allow-empty --allow-empty-message -m ""
git tag empty
...

There are various uses for a tagged empty worktree. My favorite at the moment is to depopulate the root under a set of git worktree subfolders.

Convert DataSet to List

I couldn't get Nitin Sawant's answer to work, but I was able to modify his code to work for me. Essentially I needed to use GetRuntimeFields instead of GetProperties. Here's what I ended up with:

public static class Extensions
{
    public static List<T> ToList<T>(this DataTable table) where T : new()
    {
        IList<FieldInfo> fields = typeof(T).GetRuntimeFields().ToList();
        List<T> result = new List<T>();
        if (row.Table.Columns.Contains(field.Name))
        {
            foreach (var row in table.Rows)
            {
                var item = CreateItemFromRow<T>((DataRow)row, fields);
                result.Add(item);
            }
        }

        return result;
    }

    private static T CreateItemFromRow<T>(DataRow row, IList<FieldInfo> fields) where T : new()
    {
        T item = new T();

        foreach (var field in fields)
        {
            if (row[field.Name] == DBNull.Value)
                field.SetValue(item, null);
            else
                field.SetValue(item, row[field.Name]);
        }
        return item;
    }
}

JavaScript to get rows count of a HTML table

Given a

<table id="tableId">
    <thead>
        <tr><th>Header</th></tr>
    </thead>
    <tbody>
        <tr><td>Row 1</td></tr>
        <tr><td>Row 2</td></tr>
        <tr><td>Row 3</td></tr>
    </tbody>
    <tfoot>
        <tr><td>Footer</td></tr>
    </tfoot>
</table>

and a

var table = document.getElementById("tableId");

there are two ways to count the rows:

var totalRowCount = table.rows.length; // 5
var tbodyRowCount = table.tBodies[0].rows.length; // 3

The table.rows.length returns the amount of ALL <tr> elements within the table. So for the above table it will return 5 while most people would really expect 3. The table.tBodies returns an array of all <tbody> elements of which we grab only the first one (our table has only one). When we count the rows on it, then we get the expected value of 3.

Is there a way to check which CSS styles are being used or not used on a web page?

Try using this tool,which is just a simple js script https://github.com/shashwatsahai/CSSExtractor/ This tool helps in getting the CSS from a specific page listing all sources for active styles and save it to a JSON with source as key and rules as value. It loads all the CSS from the href links and tells all the styles applied from them You can modify the code to save all css into a .css file. Thereby combining all your css.

python: unhashable type error

I don't think converting to a tuple is the right answer. You need go and look at where you are calling the function and make sure that c is a list of list of strings, or whatever you designed this function to work with

For example you might get this error if you passed [c] to the function instead of c

Write to UTF-8 file in Python

Read the following: http://docs.python.org/library/codecs.html#module-encodings.utf_8_sig

Do this

with codecs.open("test_output", "w", "utf-8-sig") as temp:
    temp.write("hi mom\n")
    temp.write(u"This has ?")

The resulting file is UTF-8 with the expected BOM.

How to uninstall / completely remove Oracle 11g (client)?

Assuming a Windows installation, do please refer to this:

http://www.oracle-base.com/articles/misc/ManualOracleUninstall.php

  • Uninstall all Oracle components using the Oracle Universal Installer (OUI).
  • Run regedit.exe and delete the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORACLE key. This contains registry entires for all Oracle products.
  • Delete any references to Oracle services left behind in the following part of the registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Ora* It should be pretty obvious which ones relate to Oracle.
  • Reboot your machine.
  • Delete the "C:\Oracle" directory, or whatever directory is your ORACLE_BASE.
  • Delete the "C:\Program Files\Oracle" directory.
  • Empty the contents of your "C:\temp" directory.
  • Empty your recycle bin.

Calling additional attention to some great comments that were left here:

  • Be careful when following anything listed here (above or below), as doing so may remove or damage any other Oracle-installed products.
  • For 64-bit Windows (x64), you need also to delete the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\ORACLE key from the registry.
  • Clean-up by removing any related shortcuts that were installed to the Start Menu.
  • Clean-up environment variables:
    • Consider removing %ORACLE_HOME%.
    • Remove any paths no longer needed from %PATH%.

This set of instructions happens to match an almost identical process that I had reverse-engineered myself over the years after a few messed-up Oracle installs, and has almost always met the need.

Note that even if the OUI is no longer available or doesn't work, simply following the remaining steps should still be sufficient.

(Revision #7 reverted as to not misquote the original source, and to not remove credit to the other comments that contributed to the answer. Further edits are appreciated (and then please remove this comment), if a way can be found to maintain these considerations.)

Get unique values from a list in python

As a bonus, Counter is a simple way to get both the unique values and the count for each value:

c = Counter(l)

Is `shouldOverrideUrlLoading` really deprecated? What can I use instead?

Documenting in detail for future readers:

The short answer is you need to override both the methods. The shouldOverrideUrlLoading(WebView view, String url) method is deprecated in API 24 and the shouldOverrideUrlLoading(WebView view, WebResourceRequest request) method is added in API 24. If you are targeting older versions of android, you need the former method, and if you are targeting 24 (or later, if someone is reading this in distant future) it's advisable to override the latter method as well.

The below is the skeleton on how you would accomplish this:

class CustomWebViewClient extends WebViewClient {

    @SuppressWarnings("deprecation")
    @Override
    public boolean shouldOverrideUrlLoading(WebView view, String url) {
        final Uri uri = Uri.parse(url);
        return handleUri(uri);
    }

    @TargetApi(Build.VERSION_CODES.N)
    @Override
    public boolean shouldOverrideUrlLoading(WebView view, WebResourceRequest request) {
        final Uri uri = request.getUrl();
        return handleUri(uri);
    }

    private boolean handleUri(final Uri uri) {
        Log.i(TAG, "Uri =" + uri);
        final String host = uri.getHost();
        final String scheme = uri.getScheme();
        // Based on some condition you need to determine if you are going to load the url
        // in your web view itself or in a browser.
        // You can use `host` or `scheme` or any part of the `uri` to decide.
        if (/* any condition */) {
            // Returning false means that you are going to load this url in the webView itself
            return false;
        } else {
            // Returning true means that you need to handle what to do with the url
            // e.g. open web page in a Browser
            final Intent intent = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_VIEW, uri);
            startActivity(intent);
            return true;
        }
    }
}

Just like shouldOverrideUrlLoading, you can come up with a similar approach for shouldInterceptRequest method.

Replace input type=file by an image

You can put an image instead, and do it like this:

HTML:

<img src="/images/uploadButton.png" id="upfile1" style="cursor:pointer" />
<input type="file" id="file1"  name="file1" style="display:none" />

JQuery:

$("#upfile1").click(function () {
    $("#file1").trigger('click');
});

CAVEAT: In IE9 and IE10 if you trigger the onclick in a file input via javascript the form gets flagged as 'dangerous' and cannot be submmited with javascript, no sure if it can be submitted traditionaly.

Regex doesn't work in String.matches()

you must put at least a capture () in the pattern to match, and correct pattern like this:

String[] words = {"{apf","hum_","dkoe","12f"};
for(String s:words)
{
    if(s.matches("(^[a-z]+$)"))
    {
        System.out.println(s);
    }
}

How do you do natural logs (e.g. "ln()") with numpy in Python?

Correct, np.log(x) is the Natural Log (base e log) of x.

For other bases, remember this law of logs: log-b(x) = log-k(x) / log-k(b) where log-b is the log in some arbitrary base b, and log-k is the log in base k, e.g.

here k = e

l = np.log(x) / np.log(100)

and l is the log-base-100 of x

How to get the insert ID in JDBC?

I'm hitting Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 from a single-threaded JDBC-based application and pulling back the last ID without using the RETURN_GENERATED_KEYS property or any PreparedStatement. Looks something like this:

private int insertQueryReturnInt(String SQLQy) {
    ResultSet generatedKeys = null;
    int generatedKey = -1;

    try {
        Statement statement = conn.createStatement();
        statement.execute(SQLQy);
    } catch (Exception e) {
        errorDescription = "Failed to insert SQL query: " + SQLQy + "( " + e.toString() + ")";
        return -1;
    }

    try {
        generatedKey = Integer.parseInt(readOneValue("SELECT @@IDENTITY"));
    } catch (Exception e) {
        errorDescription = "Failed to get ID of just-inserted SQL query: " + SQLQy + "( " + e.toString() + ")";
        return -1;
    }

    return generatedKey;
}

This blog post nicely isolates three main SQL Server "last ID" options: http://msjawahar.wordpress.com/2008/01/25/how-to-find-the-last-identity-value-inserted-in-the-sql-server/ - haven't needed the other two yet.

How can I clear or empty a StringBuilder?

delete is not overly complicated :

myStringBuilder.delete(0, myStringBuilder.length());

You can also do :

myStringBuilder.setLength(0);

A generic error occurred in GDI+, JPEG Image to MemoryStream

My turn!

using (System.Drawing.Image img = Bitmap.FromFile(fileName))
{
      ... do some manipulation of img ...
      img.Save(fileName, System.Drawing.Imaging.ImageFormat.Jpeg);
}

Got it on the .Save... because the using() is holding the file open, so I can't overwrite it. Maybe this will help someone in the future.

Multiple conditions in WHILE loop

If your code, if the user enters 'X' (for instance), when you reach the while condition evaluation it will determine that 'X' is differente from 'n' (nChar != 'n') which will make your loop condition true and execute the code inside of your loop. The second condition is not even evaluated.

JavaScript moving element in the DOM

Jquery approach mentioned on the top will work. You can also use JQuery and CSS .Say for e.g on Div one you have applied class1 and div2 you have applied class class2 (say for e.g each class of css provides specific position on the browser), now you can interchange the classes use jquery or javascript (that will change the position)

Smooth scroll to specific div on click

There are many examples of smooth scrolling using JS libraries like jQuery, Mootools, Prototype, etc.

The following example is on pure JavaScript. If you have no jQuery/Mootools/Prototype on page or you don't want to overload page with heavy JS libraries the example will be of help.

http://jsfiddle.net/rjSfP/

HTML Part:

<div class="first"><button type="button" onclick="smoothScroll(document.getElementById('second'))">Click Me!</button></div>
<div class="second" id="second">Hi</div>

CSS Part:

.first {
    width: 100%;
    height: 1000px;
    background: #ccc;
}

.second {
    width: 100%;
    height: 1000px;
    background: #999;
}

JS Part:

window.smoothScroll = function(target) {
    var scrollContainer = target;
    do { //find scroll container
        scrollContainer = scrollContainer.parentNode;
        if (!scrollContainer) return;
        scrollContainer.scrollTop += 1;
    } while (scrollContainer.scrollTop == 0);

    var targetY = 0;
    do { //find the top of target relatively to the container
        if (target == scrollContainer) break;
        targetY += target.offsetTop;
    } while (target = target.offsetParent);

    scroll = function(c, a, b, i) {
        i++; if (i > 30) return;
        c.scrollTop = a + (b - a) / 30 * i;
        setTimeout(function(){ scroll(c, a, b, i); }, 20);
    }
    // start scrolling
    scroll(scrollContainer, scrollContainer.scrollTop, targetY, 0);
}

How to check if a map contains a key in Go?

As noted by other answers, the general solution is to use an index expression in an assignment of the special form:

v, ok = a[x]
v, ok := a[x]
var v, ok = a[x]
var v, ok T = a[x]

This is nice and clean. It has some restrictions though: it must be an assignment of special form. Right-hand side expression must be the map index expression only, and the left-hand expression list must contain exactly 2 operands, first to which the value type is assignable, and a second to which a bool value is assignable. The first value of the result of this special form will be the value associated with the key, and the second value will tell if there is actually an entry in the map with the given key (if the key exists in the map). The left-hand side expression list may also contain the blank identifier if one of the results is not needed.

It's important to know that if the indexed map value is nil or does not contain the key, the index expression evaluates to the zero value of the value type of the map. So for example:

m := map[int]string{}
s := m[1] // s will be the empty string ""
var m2 map[int]float64 // m2 is nil!
f := m2[2] // f will be 0.0

fmt.Printf("%q %f", s, f) // Prints: "" 0.000000

Try it on the Go Playground.

So if we know that we don't use the zero value in our map, we can take advantage of this.

For example if the value type is string, and we know we never store entries in the map where the value is the empty string (zero value for the string type), we can also test if the key is in the map by comparing the non-special form of the (result of the) index expression to the zero value:

m := map[int]string{
    0: "zero",
    1: "one",
}

fmt.Printf("Key 0 exists: %t\nKey 1 exists: %t\nKey 2 exists: %t",
    m[0] != "", m[1] != "", m[2] != "")

Output (try it on the Go Playground):

Key 0 exists: true
Key 1 exists: true
Key 2 exists: false

In practice there are many cases where we don't store the zero-value value in the map, so this can be used quite often. For example interfaces and function types have a zero value nil, which we often don't store in maps. So testing if a key is in the map can be achieved by comparing it to nil.

Using this "technique" has another advantage too: you can check existence of multiple keys in a compact way (you can't do that with the special "comma ok" form). More about this: Check if key exists in multiple maps in one condition

Getting the zero value of the value type when indexing with a non-existing key also allows us to use maps with bool values conveniently as sets. For example:

set := map[string]bool{
    "one": true,
    "two": true,
}

fmt.Println("Contains 'one':", set["one"])

if set["two"] {
    fmt.Println("'two' is in the set")
}
if !set["three"] {
    fmt.Println("'three' is not in the set")
}

It outputs (try it on the Go Playground):

Contains 'one': true
'two' is in the set
'three' is not in the set

How can I stop redis-server?

I would suggest to disable Redis-server, which prevents auto start while computer restarts and very useful to use docker like tools etc.

Step 1: Stop the redis-server

sudo service redis-server stop

Step 2: Disable the redis-server

sudo systemctl disable redis-server

if you need redis, you can start it as:

sudo service redis-server start

Cannot run Eclipse; JVM terminated. Exit code=13

Whenever you see this error, go to Configuration directory and check for a log file generated just now. It should have proper Exception stacktrace. Mine was a case where I got an updated 32-bit JRE (or JVM) installed which was the default Java that got added to the Path. And my Eclipse installation was 64-bit which meant it needed a 64-bit VM to run its native SWT libraries. So I simply uninstalled the 32-bit JVM and replaced it with a 64-bit JVM.

I wonder if they will improve this reporting mechanism, instead of silently generating a log file in some directory.

How to create user for a db in postgresql?

From CLI:

$ su - postgres
$ psql template1
template1=# CREATE USER tester WITH PASSWORD 'test_password';
template1=# GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON DATABASE "test_database" to tester;
template1=# \q

PHP (as tested on localhost, it works as expected):

  $connString = 'port=5432 dbname=test_database user=tester password=test_password';
  $connHandler = pg_connect($connString);
  echo 'Connected to '.pg_dbname($connHandler);

Creation timestamp and last update timestamp with Hibernate and MySQL

As data type in JAVA I strongly recommend to use java.util.Date. I ran into pretty nasty timezone problems when using Calendar. See this Thread.

For setting the timestamps I would recommend using either an AOP approach or you could simply use Triggers on the table (actually this is the only thing that I ever find the use of triggers acceptable).

Converting java.util.Properties to HashMap<String,String>

If you know that your Properties object only contains <String, String> entries, you can resort to a raw type:

Properties properties = new Properties();
Map<String, String> map = new HashMap<String, String>((Map) properties);

AppStore - App status is ready for sale, but not in app store

You have to go to the "Pricing" menu. Even if the availability date is in the past, sometimes you have to set it again for today's date. Apple doesn't tell you to do this, but I found that the app goes live after resetting the dates again, especially if there's been app rejections in the past. I guess it messes up with the dates. Looks like sometimes if you do nothing and just follow the instructions, the app will never go live.

Is there a way to use max-width and height for a background image?

You can do this with background-size:

html {
    background: url(images/bg.jpg) no-repeat center center fixed;
    background-size: cover;
}

There are a lot of values other than cover that you can set background-size to, see which one works for you: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/CSS/background-size

Spec: https://www.w3.org/TR/css-backgrounds-3/#the-background-size

It works in all modern browsers: http://caniuse.com/#feat=background-img-opts

WCFTestClient The HTTP request is unauthorized with client authentication scheme 'Anonymous'

I didn't have control over the security configuration for the service I was calling into, but got the same error. I was able to fix my client as follows.

  1. In the config, set up the security mode:

    <security mode="TransportCredentialOnly">
      <transport clientCredentialType="Windows" proxyCredentialType="None" realm="" />
      <message clientCredentialType="UserName" algorithmSuite="Default" />
    </security>

  2. In the code, set the proxy class to allow impersonation (I added a reference to a service called customer):

    Customer_PortClient proxy = new Customer_PortClient();
    proxy.ClientCredentials.Windows.AllowedImpersonationLevel =
             System.Security.Principal.TokenImpersonationLevel.Impersonation;

How to call servlet through a JSP page

there isn't method to call Servlet. You should make mapping in web.xml and then trigger this mapping.

Example: web.xml:

  <servlet>
    <servlet-name>hello</servlet-name>
    <servlet-class>test.HelloServlet</servlet-class>
  </servlet>

  <servlet-mapping>
    <servlet-name>hello</servlet-name>
    <url-pattern>/hello</url-pattern>
  </servlet-mapping>

This mapping means that every call to http://yoursite/yourwebapp/hello trigger this servlet For example this jsp:

<jsp:forward page="/hello"/>

Command to escape a string in bash

It may not be quite what you want, since it's not a standard command on anyone's systems, but since my program should work fine on POSIX systems (if compiled), I'll mention it anyway. If you have the ability to compile or add programs on the machine in question, it should work.

I've used it without issue for about a year now, but it could be that it won't handle some edge cases. Most specifically, I have no idea what it would do with newlines in strings; a case for \\n might need to be added. This list of characters is not authoritative, but I believe it covers everything else.

I wrote this specifically as a 'helper' program so I could make a wrapper for things like scp commands.

It can likely be implemented as a shell function as well

I therefore present escapify.c. I use it like so:

scp user@host:"$(escapify "/this/path/needs to be escaped/file.c")" destination_file.c

PLEASE NOTE: I made this program for my own personal use. It also will (probably wrongly) assume that if it is given more than one argument that it should just print an unescaped space and continue on. This means that it can be used to pass multiple escaped arguments correctly, but could be seen as unwanted behavior by some.

#include <stdio.h>
#include <string.h>
#include <stdlib.h>
int main(int argc, char **argv)

When is it appropriate to use UDP instead of TCP?

UDP is perfect for VoIP addressed where data packet has to be sent regard less its reliability... Video chatting is an example of UDP (you can check it by wireshark network capture during any video chatting).. Also TCP doesn't work with DNS and SNMP protocols. UDP does not have any overhead while TCP have lots of Overhead

Android Emulator Error Message: "PANIC: Missing emulator engine program for 'x86' CPUS."

First, check the path you get with which emulator and if you get /usr/local/share/android-sdk/tools/emulator then remove or rename that emulator (it's an old one) and instead use /usr/local/share/android-sdk/emulator/emulator which is the new path.

If you're using Homebrew and installed with brew cask install android-sdk android-studio then you need to:

  1. Verify your .bashrc or .zshrc that you have the correct paths set:
# Remove $HOME/Library/Android paths
# The new way is to use ANDROID_SDK_ROOT
export ANDROID_SDK_ROOT="/usr/local/share/android-sdk"
# For good measure, add old paths to be backwards compatible with any scripts or
whatnot. And to hopefully decrease confusion:
export ANDROID_HOME=$ANDROID_SDK_ROOT
export ANDROID_NDK_HOME=$ANDROID_SDK_ROOT/ndk-bundle
  1. Then restart your terminal shell, and check your paths are as you expect them:

    set | grep ANDROID

  2. Finally, with correct paths set, you typically need to install the ndk and some tools:

    sdkmanager "ndk-bundle" "cmake;3.10.2.4988404" "lldb;3.1"

    and check the list for other pieces like this sdkmanager --list

I also closed Android Studio, removed the old Android/Sdk folder under my $HOME folder, and restarted Studio, and when it asked where my Sdk had gone, I pasted the Sdk path: /usr/local/share/android-sdk

Serialize form data to JSON

Use:

var config = {};
jQuery(form).serializeArray().map(function(item) {
    if ( config[item.name] ) {
        if ( typeof(config[item.name]) === "string" ) {
            config[item.name] = [config[item.name]];
        }
        config[item.name].push(item.value);
    } else {
        config[item.name] = item.value;
    }
});

Foreign Key to non-primary key

Necromancing.
I assume when somebody lands here, he needs a foreign key to column in a table that contains non-unique keys.

The problem is, that if you have that problem, the database-schema is denormalized.

You're for example keeping rooms in a table, with a room-uid primary key, a DateFrom and a DateTo field, and another uid, here RM_ApertureID to keep track of the same room, and a soft-delete field, like RM_Status, where 99 means 'deleted', and <> 99 means 'active'.

So when you create the first room, you insert RM_UID and RM_ApertureID as the same value as RM_UID. Then, when you terminate the room to a date, and re-establish it with a new date range, RM_UID is newid(), and the RM_ApertureID from the previous entry becomes the new RM_ApertureID.

So, if that's the case, RM_ApertureID is a non-unique field, and so you can't set a foreign-key in another table.

And there is no way to set a foreign key to a non-unique column/index, e.g. in T_ZO_REM_AP_Raum_Reinigung (WHERE RM_UID is actually RM_ApertureID).
But to prohibit invalid values, you need to set a foreign key, otherwise, data-garbage is the result sooner rather than later...

Now what you can do in this case (short of rewritting the entire application) is inserting a CHECK-constraint, with a scalar function checking the presence of the key:

IF  EXISTS (SELECT * FROM sys.check_constraints WHERE object_id = OBJECT_ID(N'[dbo].[Check_RM_ApertureIDisValid_T_ZO_REM_AP_Raum_Reinigung]') AND parent_object_id = OBJECT_ID(N'[dbo].[T_ZO_REM_AP_Raum_Reinigung]'))

What is difference between XML Schema and DTD?

When XML first came out, we were told it would solve all our problems: XML will be user-friendly, infinitely extensible, avoid strong-typing, and not require any programming skills. I learnt about DTD's and wrote my own XML parser. 15+ years later, I see that most XML is not user-friendly, and not very extensible (depending on its usage). As soon as some clever clogs hooked up XML to a database I knew that data types were all but inevitable. And, you should see the XSLT (transformation file) I had to work on the other day. If that isn't programming, I don't know what is! Nowadays it's not unusual to see all kinds of problems relating to XML data or interfaces gone bad. I love XML but, it has strayed far from its original altruistic starting point.

The short answer? DTD's have been deprecated in favor of XSD's because an XSD lets you define an XML structure with more precision.

jQuery equivalent of JavaScript's addEventListener method

The closest thing would be the bind function:

$('#foo').bind('click', function() {
  alert('User clicked on "foo."');
});

Count the number occurrences of a character in a string

Regular expressions are very useful if you want case-insensitivity (and of course all the power of regex).

my_string = "Mary had a little lamb"
# simplest solution, using count, is case-sensitive
my_string.count("m")   # yields 1
import re
# case-sensitive with regex
len(re.findall("m", my_string))
# three ways to get case insensitivity - all yield 2
len(re.findall("(?i)m", my_string))
len(re.findall("m|M", my_string))
len(re.findall(re.compile("m",re.IGNORECASE), my_string))

Be aware that the regex version takes on the order of ten times as long to run, which will likely be an issue only if my_string is tremendously long, or the code is inside a deep loop.

Best way to combine two or more byte arrays in C#

Concat is the right answer, but for some reason a handrolled thing is getting the most votes. If you like that answer, perhaps you'd like this more general solution even more:

    IEnumerable<byte> Combine(params byte[][] arrays)
    {
        foreach (byte[] a in arrays)
            foreach (byte b in a)
                yield return b;
    }

which would let you do things like:

    byte[] c = Combine(new byte[] { 0, 1, 2 }, new byte[] { 3, 4, 5 }).ToArray();

How to Create a Form Dynamically Via Javascript

some thing as follows ::

Add this After the body tag

This is a rough sketch, you will need to modify it according to your needs.

<script>
var f = document.createElement("form");
f.setAttribute('method',"post");
f.setAttribute('action',"submit.php");

var i = document.createElement("input"); //input element, text
i.setAttribute('type',"text");
i.setAttribute('name',"username");

var s = document.createElement("input"); //input element, Submit button
s.setAttribute('type',"submit");
s.setAttribute('value',"Submit");

f.appendChild(i);
f.appendChild(s);

//and some more input elements here
//and dont forget to add a submit button

document.getElementsByTagName('body')[0].appendChild(f);

</script>

jQuery checkbox change and click event

get radio value by name

 $('input').on('className', function(event){
        console.log($(this).attr('name'));
        if($(this).attr('name') == "worker")
            {

Why does AngularJS include an empty option in select?

I faced the same issue. If you are posting an angular form with normal post then you will face this issue, as angular don't allow you to set values for the options in the way you have used. If you get the value of "form.type" then you will find the right value. You have to post the angular object it self not the form post.

Get css top value as number not as string?

A jQuery plugin based on M4N's answer

jQuery.fn.cssNumber = function(prop){
    var v = parseInt(this.css(prop),10);
    return isNaN(v) ? 0 : v;
};

So then you just use this method to get number values

$("#logo").cssNumber("top")

How to show soft-keyboard when edittext is focused

And for Kotlin just use this extensions:

fun EditText.showKeyboard() {
    val imm = context.getSystemService(Context.INPUT_METHOD_SERVICE) as InputMethodManager
    imm.showSoftInput(this, InputMethodManager.SHOW_IMPLICIT)
}

fun EditText.hideKeyboard() {
    val imm = context.getSystemService(Context.INPUT_METHOD_SERVICE) as InputMethodManager
    imm.hideSoftInputFromWindow(this.windowToken, 0)
}

Resolving tree conflict

Basically, tree conflicts arise if there is some restructure in the folder structure on the branch. You need to delete the conflict folder and use svn clean once. Hope this solves your conflict.

Output first 100 characters in a string

String formatting using % is a great way to handle this. Here are some examples.

The formatting code '%s' converts '12345' to a string, but it's already a string.

>>> '%s' % '12345'

'12345'

'%.3s' specifies to use only the first three characters.

>>> '%.3s' % '12345'

'123'

'%.7s' says to use the first seven characters, but there are only five. No problem.

>>> '%.7s' % '12345'

'12345'

'%7s' uses up to seven characters, filling missing characters with spaces on the left.

>>> '%7s' % '12345'

'  12345'

'%-7s' is the same thing, except filling missing characters on the right.

>>> '%-7s' % '12345'

'12345  '

'%5.3' says use the first three characters, but fill it with spaces on the left to total five characters.

>>> '%5.3s' % '12345'

'  123'

Same thing except filling on the right.

>>> '%-5.3s' % '12345'

'123  '

Can handle multiple arguments too!

>>> 'do u no %-4.3sda%3.2s wae' % ('12345', 6789)

'do u no 123 da 67 wae'

If you require even more flexibility, str.format() is available too. Here is documentation for both.

LINUX: Link all files from one to another directory

The posted solutions will not link any hidden files. To include them, try this:

cd /usr/lib
find /mnt/usr/lib -maxdepth 1 -print "%P\n" | while read file; do ln -s "/mnt/usr/lib/$file" "$file"; done

If you should happen to want to recursively create the directories and only link files (so that if you create a file within a directory, it really is in /usr/lib not /mnt/usr/lib), you could do this:

cd /usr/lib
find /mnt/usr/lib -mindepth 1 -depth -type d -printf "%P\n" | while read dir; do mkdir -p "$dir"; done
find /mnt/usr/lib -type f -printf "%P\n" | while read file; do ln -s "/mnt/usr/lib/$file" "$file"; done

QLabel: set color of text and background

You can use QPalette, however you must set setAutoFillBackground(true); to enable background color

QPalette sample_palette;
sample_palette.setColor(QPalette::Window, Qt::white);
sample_palette.setColor(QPalette::WindowText, Qt::blue);

sample_label->setAutoFillBackground(true);
sample_label->setPalette(sample_palette);
sample_label->setText("What ever text");

It works fine on Windows and Ubuntu, I haven't played with any other OS.

Note: Please see QPalette, color role section for more details

Laravel Eloquent: How to get only certain columns from joined tables

Filter multiple values on a string column in dplyr

You need %in% instead of ==:

library(dplyr)
target <- c("Tom", "Lynn")
filter(dat, name %in% target)  # equivalently, dat %>% filter(name %in% target)

Produces

  days name
1   88 Lynn
2   11  Tom
3    1  Tom
4  222 Lynn
5    2 Lynn

To understand why, consider what happens here:

dat$name == target
# [1] FALSE FALSE FALSE FALSE FALSE FALSE FALSE TRUE

Basically, we're recycling the two length target vector four times to match the length of dat$name. In other words, we are doing:

 Lynn == Tom
  Tom == Lynn
Chris == Tom
 Lisa == Lynn
 ... continue repeating Tom and Lynn until end of data frame

In this case we don't get an error because I suspect your data frame actually has a different number of rows that don't allow recycling, but the sample you provide does (8 rows). If the sample had had an odd number of rows I would have gotten the same error as you. But even when recycling works, this is clearly not what you want. Basically, the statement dat$name == target is equivalent to saying:

return TRUE for every odd value that is equal to "Tom" or every even value that is equal to "Lynn".

It so happens that the last value in your sample data frame is even and equal to "Lynn", hence the one TRUE above.

To contrast, dat$name %in% target says:

for each value in dat$name, check that it exists in target.

Very different. Here is the result:

[1] TRUE TRUE FALSE FALSE FALSE TRUE TRUE TRUE

Note your problem has nothing to do with dplyr, just the mis-use of ==.

How to make lists contain only distinct element in Python?

Let me explain to you by an example:

if you have Python list

>>> randomList = ["a","f", "b", "c", "d", "a", "c", "e", "d", "f", "e"]

and you want to remove duplicates from it.

>>> uniqueList = []

>>> for letter in randomList:
    if letter not in uniqueList:
        uniqueList.append(letter)

>>> uniqueList
['a', 'f', 'b', 'c', 'd', 'e']

This is how you can remove duplicates from the list.

'Incomplete final line' warning when trying to read a .csv file into R

I realized that several answers have been provided but no real fix yet.

The reason, as mentioned above, is a "End of line" missing at the end of the CSV file.

While the real Fix should come from Microsoft, the walk around is to open the CSV file with a Text-editor and add a line at the end of the file (aka press return key). I use ATOM software as a text/code editor but virtually all basic text editor would do.

In the meanwhile, please report the bug to Microsoft.

Question: It seems to me that it is a office 2016 problem. Does anyone have the issue on a PC?

How do I remove the last comma from a string using PHP?

rtrim function

rtrim($my_string,',');

Second parameter indicates that comma to be deleted from right side.

Pandas get topmost n records within each group

Did you try df.groupby('id').head(2)

Ouput generated:

>>> df.groupby('id').head(2)
       id  value
id
1  0   1      1
   1   1      2
2  3   2      1
   4   2      2
3  7   3      1
4  8   4      1

(Keep in mind that you might need to order/sort before, depending on your data)

EDIT: As mentioned by the questioner, use df.groupby('id').head(2).reset_index(drop=True) to remove the multindex and flatten the results.

>>> df.groupby('id').head(2).reset_index(drop=True)
    id  value
0   1      1
1   1      2
2   2      1

Making an svg image object clickable with onclick, avoiding absolute positioning

Have you looked into using the CSS z-index property to make the container dev be "on top" of the svg? Because the div is (presumably) transparent, you will still see the image exactly as before.

This, I believe, is the best-practice, non-hack, intended way of solving your problem. z-index is only useful for elements that have a position property of fixed, relative, or, as you've heard, absolute. However, you don't actually have to move the object.

For example:

<style>
    .svgwrapper {
        position: relative;
        z-index: 1;
    }
</style>
<div class="svgwrapper" onClick="function();">
    <object src="blah" />
</div>

For what it's worth, it would also be a little more elegant and safe to not use onClick at all, but instead to bind the click event using javascript. That's another issue altogether, though.

bootstrap 3 - how do I place the brand in the center of the navbar?

If you have no other links, then there is no use for navbar-header....

HTML:

<nav class="navbar navbar-inverse navbar-static-top">
    <div class="container">
     <a class="navbar-brand text-center center-block" href="#">Navbar Brand</a>
  .....
</nav>

CSS:

.navbar-brand {
  float: none;
}

However, if you do want other links here's a very effective approach that allows that: https://stackoverflow.com/a/34149840/3123861

Playing MP4 files in Firefox using HTML5 video

This is caused by the limited support for the MP4 format within the video tag in Firefox. Support was not added until Firefox 21, and it is still limited to Windows 7 and above. The main reason for the limited support revolves around the royalty fee attached to the mp4 format.

Check out Supported media formats and Media formats supported by the audio and video elements directly from the Mozilla crew or the following blog post for more information:

How to convert a string to JSON object in PHP

To convert a valid JSON string back, you can use the json_decode() method.

To convert it back to an object use this method:

$jObj = json_decode($jsonString);

And to convert it to a associative array, set the second parameter to true:

$jArr = json_decode($jsonString, true);

By the way to convert your mentioned string back to either of those, you should have a valid JSON string. To achieve it, you should do the following:

  1. In the Coords array, remove the two " (double quote marks) from the start and end of the object.
  2. The objects in an array are comma seprated (,), so add commas between the objects in the Coords array..

And you will have a valid JSON String..

Here is your JSON String I converted to a valid one: http://pastebin.com/R16NVerw

Unzip All Files In A Directory

This is a variant of Pedro Lobito answer using How to loop through a directory recursively to delete files with certain extensions teachings:

    if [ -f "$root_directory/$zip_file_name" ]; then
        mkdir -p "$root_directory/$directory_name"
        unzip -o -q "$root_directory/$zip_file_name" -d "$directory_name"

        # Some files have the executable flag and were not being deleted because of it.

In jQuery, what's the best way of formatting a number to 2 decimal places?

Maybe something like this, where you could select more than one element if you'd like?

$("#number").each(function(){
    $(this).val(parseFloat($(this).val()).toFixed(2));
});

How to select rows from a DataFrame based on column values

To append to this famous question (though a bit too late): You can also do df.groupby('column_name').get_group('column_desired_value').reset_index() to make a new data frame with specified column having a particular value. E.g.

import pandas as pd
df = pd.DataFrame({'A': 'foo bar foo bar foo bar foo foo'.split(),
                   'B': 'one one two three two two one three'.split()})
print("Original dataframe:")
print(df)

b_is_two_dataframe = pd.DataFrame(df.groupby('B').get_group('two').reset_index()).drop('index', axis = 1)
#NOTE: the final drop is to remove the extra index column returned by groupby object
print('Sub dataframe where B is two:')
print(b_is_two_dataframe)

Run this gives:

Original dataframe:
     A      B
0  foo    one
1  bar    one
2  foo    two
3  bar  three
4  foo    two
5  bar    two
6  foo    one
7  foo  three
Sub dataframe where B is two:
     A    B
0  foo  two
1  foo  two
2  bar  two

Draw line in UIView

Add label without text and with background color corresponding frame size(ex:height=1). Do it through code or in interface builder.

querySelectorAll with multiple conditions

Is it possible to make a search by querySelectorAll using multiple unrelated conditions?

Yes, because querySelectorAll accepts full CSS selectors, and CSS has the concept of selector groups, which lets you specify more than one unrelated selector. For instance:

var list = document.querySelectorAll("form, p, legend");

...will return a list containing any element that is a form or p or legend.

CSS also has the other concept: Restricting based on more criteria. You just combine multiple aspects of a selector. For instance:

var list = document.querySelectorAll("div.foo");

...will return a list of all div elements that also (and) have the class foo, ignoring other div elements.

You can, of course, combine them:

var list = document.querySelectorAll("div.foo, p.bar, div legend");

...which means "Include any div element that also has the foo class, any p element that also has the bar class, and any legend element that's also inside a div."

Volley JsonObjectRequest Post request not working

You can create a custom JSONObjectReuqest and override the getParams method, or you can provide them in the constructor as a JSONObject to be put in the body of the request.

Like this (I edited your code):

JSONObject obj = new JSONObject();
obj.put("id", "1");
obj.put("name", "myname");

RequestQueue queue = MyVolley.getRequestQueue();
JsonObjectRequest jsObjRequest = new JsonObjectRequest(Request.Method.POST,SPHERE_URL,obj,
    new Response.Listener<JSONObject>() {
        @Override
        public void onResponse(JSONObject response) {
             System.out.println(response);
             hideProgressDialog();
        }
    },
    new Response.ErrorListener() {
        @Override
        public void onErrorResponse(VolleyError error) {
             hideProgressDialog();
        }
    });
queue.add(jsObjRequest);

How can I disable mod_security in .htaccess file?

It is possible to do this, but most likely your host implemented mod_security for a reason. Be sure they approve of you disabling it for your own site.

That said, this should do it;

  SecFilterEngine Off
  SecFilterScanPOST Off

how to delete all cookies of my website in php

I agree with some of the above answers. I would just recommend replacing "time()-1000" with "1". A value of "1" means January 1st, 1970, which ensures expiration 100%. Therefore:

setcookie($name, '', 1);
setcookie($name, '', 1, '/');

Unless you can get PHP to label that element with a class you are better to use jQuery.

  jQuery("ul li:nth-child("+$count+")").css("color","red");
});

Build .so file from .c file using gcc command line

To generate a shared library you need first to compile your C code with the -fPIC (position independent code) flag.

gcc -c -fPIC hello.c -o hello.o

This will generate an object file (.o), now you take it and create the .so file:

gcc hello.o -shared -o libhello.so

EDIT: Suggestions from the comments:

You can use

gcc -shared -o libhello.so -fPIC hello.c

to do it in one step. – Jonathan Leffler

I also suggest to add -Wall to get all warnings, and -g to get debugging information, to your gcc commands. – Basile Starynkevitch

    Returns a new list of removed items (or an empty list)

How to convert a string to an integer in JavaScript?

Beware if you use parseInt to convert a float in scientific notation! For example:

Uncaught ReferenceError: $ is not defined error in jQuery

The MVC 5 stock install puts javascript references in the _Layout.cshtml file that is shared in all pages. So the javascript files were below the main content and document.ready function where all my $'s were.

BOTTOM PART OF _Layout.cshtml:

    <div class="container body-content">
        @RenderBody()
        <hr />
        <footer>
            <p>&copy; @DateTime.Now.Year - My ASP.NET Application</p>
        </footer>
    </div>

    @Scripts.Render("~/bundles/jquery")
    @Scripts.Render("~/bundles/bootstrap")
    @RenderSection("scripts", required: false)

</body>
</html>

I moved them above the @RenderBody() and all was fine.

    @Scripts.Render("~/bundles/jquery")
    @Scripts.Render("~/bundles/bootstrap")
    @RenderSection("scripts", required: false)

    <div class="container body-content">
        @RenderBody()
        <hr />
        <footer>

        </footer>
    </div>

</body>

Iterate through Nested JavaScript Objects

I made a pick method like lodash pick. It is not exactly good like lodash _.pick, but you can pick any property event any nested property.

  • You just have to pass your object as a first argument then an array of properties in which you want to get their value as a second argument.

for example:

let car = { name: 'BMW', meta: { model: 2018, color: 'white'};
pick(car,['name','model']) // Output will be {name: 'BMW', model: 2018}

Code :

const pick = (object, props) => {
  let newObject = {};
  if (isObjectEmpty(object)) return {}; // Object.keys(object).length <= 0;

  for (let i = 0; i < props.length; i++) {
    Object.keys(object).forEach(key => {
      if (key === props[i] && object.hasOwnProperty(props[i])) {
        newObject[key] = object[key];
      } else if (typeof object[key] === "object") {
        Object.assign(newObject, pick(object[key], [props[i]]));
      }
    });
  }
  return newObject;
};

function isObjectEmpty(obj) {
  for (let key in obj) {
    if (obj.hasOwnProperty(key)) return false;
  }
  return true;
}
export default pick;

and here is the link to live example with unit tests

JQuery ajax call default timeout value

As an aside, when trying to diagnose a similar bug I realised that jquery's ajax error callback returns a status of "timeout" if it failed due to a timeout.

Here's an example:

$.ajax({
    url: "/ajax_json_echo/",
    timeout: 500,
    error: function(jqXHR, textStatus, errorThrown) {
        alert(textStatus); // this will be "timeout"
    }
});

Here it is on jsfiddle.

Creating a .dll file in C#.Net

Console Application is an application (.exe), not a Library (.dll). To make a library, create a new project, select "Class Library" in type of project, then copy the logic of your first code into this new project.

Or you can edit the Project Properties and select Class Library instead of Console Application in Output type.

As some code can be "console" dependant, I think first solution is better if you check your logic when you copy it.

Vertical divider doesn't work in Bootstrap 3

as i also wanted that same thing in a project u can do something like

HTML

<div class="col-md-6"></div>
<div class="divider-vertical"></div>
<div class="col-md-5"></div>

CSS

.divider-vertical {
    height: 100px;                   /* any height */
    border-left: 1px solid gray; /* right or left is the same */
    float: left; /* so BS grid doesn't break */
    opacity: 0.5;                    /* optional */
    margin: 0 15px;                  /* optional */
}

LESS

.divider-vertical(@h:100, @opa:1, @mar:15) {
    height: unit(@h,px);             /* change it to rem,em,etc.. */
    border-left: 1px solid gray;
    float: left;
    opacity: @opa;
    margin: 0 unit(@mar,px);         /* change it to rem,em,etc.. */
}

R solve:system is exactly singular

I guess your code uses somewhere in the second case a singular matrix (i.e. not invertible), and the solve function needs to invert it. This has nothing to do with the size but with the fact that some of your vectors are (probably) colinear.

How to get Chrome to allow mixed content?

In Windows open the Run window (Win + R):

C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe  --allow-running-insecure-content

In OS-X Terminal.app run the following command +space:

open /Applications/Google\ Chrome.app --args --allow-running-insecure-content

Note: You seem to be able to add the argument --allow-running-insecure-content to bypass this for development. But its not a recommended solution.

What's the difference between %s and %d in Python string formatting?

The %d and %s string formatting "commands" are used to format strings. The %d is for numbers, and %s is for strings.

For an example:

print("%s" % "hi")

and

print("%d" % 34.6)

To pass multiple arguments:

print("%s %s %s%d" % ("hi", "there", "user", 123456)) will return hi there user123456

How can I reduce the waiting (ttfb) time

I would suggest you read this article and focus more on how to optimize the overall response to the user request (either a page, a search result etc.)

A good argument for this is the example they give about using gzip to compress the page. Even though ttfb is faster when you do not compress, the overall experience of the user is worst because it takes longer to download content that is not zipped.

How do I list all loaded assemblies?

Using Visual Studio

  1. Attach a debugger to the process (e.g. start with debugging or Debug > Attach to process)
  2. While debugging, show the Modules window (Debug > Windows > Modules)

This gives details about each assembly, app domain and has a few options to load symbols (i.e. pdb files that contain debug information).

enter image description here

Using Process Explorer

If you want an external tool you can use the Process Explorer (freeware, published by Microsoft)

Click on a process and it will show a list with all the assemblies used. The tool is pretty good as it shows other information such as file handles etc.

Programmatically

Check this SO question that explains how to do it.

Facebook Open Graph not clearing cache

Really easy solve. Tested and working. You just need to generate a new url when you update your meta tags. It's as simple as adding a "&cacheBuster=1" to your url. If you change the meta tags, just increment the "&cacheBuster=2"

Orginal URL

www.example.com

URL when og meta tags are updated:

www.example.com?cacheBuster=1

URL when og meta tags are updated again:

www.example.com?cacheBuster=2

Facebook will treat each like a new url and get fresh meta data.

Making a mocked method return an argument that was passed to it

With Java 8, Steve's answer can become

public void testMyFunction() throws Exception {
    Application mock = mock(Application.class);
    when(mock.myFunction(anyString())).thenAnswer(
    invocation -> {
        Object[] args = invocation.getArguments();
        return args[0];
    });

    assertEquals("someString", mock.myFunction("someString"));
    assertEquals("anotherString", mock.myFunction("anotherString"));
}

EDIT: Even shorter:

public void testMyFunction() throws Exception {
    Application mock = mock(Application.class);
    when(mock.myFunction(anyString())).thenAnswer(
        invocation -> invocation.getArgument(0));

    assertEquals("someString", mock.myFunction("someString"));
    assertEquals("anotherString", mock.myFunction("anotherString"));
}

Nginx location "not equal to" regex

According to nginx documentation

there is no syntax for NOT matching a regular expression. Instead, match the target regular expression and assign an empty block, then use location / to match anything else

So you could define something like

location ~ (dir1|file2\.php) {
    # empty
}

location / {
    rewrite ^/(.*) http://example.com/$1 permanent;
}

returning a Void object

It is possible to create instances of Void if you change the security manager, so something like this:

static Void getVoid() throws SecurityException, InstantiationException,
        IllegalAccessException, InvocationTargetException {
    class BadSecurityManager extends SecurityManager {

        @Override
        public void checkPermission(Permission perm) { }

        @Override
        public void checkPackageAccess(String pkg) { }

    }
    System.setSecurityManager(badManager = new BadSecurityManager());
    Constructor<?> constructor = Void.class.getDeclaredConstructors()[0];
    if(!constructor.isAccessible()) {
        constructor.setAccessible(true);
    }
    return (Void) constructor.newInstance();
}

Obviously this is not all that practical or safe; however, it will return an instance of Void if you are able to change the security manager.

What is a Sticky Broadcast?

If an Activity calls onPause with a normal broadcast, receiving the Broadcast can be missed. A sticky broadcast can be checked after it was initiated in onResume.

Update 6/23/2020

Sticky broadcasts are deprecated.

See sendStickyBroadcast documentation.

This method was deprecated in API level 21.

Sticky broadcasts should not be used. They provide no security (anyone can access them), no protection (anyone can modify them), and many other problems. The recommended pattern is to use a non-sticky broadcast to report that something has changed, with another mechanism for apps to retrieve the current value whenever desired.

Implement

Intent intent = new Intent("some.custom.action");
intent.putExtra("some_boolean", true);
sendStickyBroadcast(intent);

How to get some values from a JSON string in C#?

Your strings are JSON formatted, so you will need to parse it into a object. For that you can use JSON.NET.

Here is an example on how to parse a JSON string into a dynamic object:

string source = "{\r\n   \"id\": \"100000280905615\", \r\n \"name\": \"Jerard Jones\",  \r\n   \"first_name\": \"Jerard\", \r\n   \"last_name\": \"Jones\", \r\n   \"link\": \"https://www.facebook.com/Jerard.Jones\", \r\n   \"username\": \"Jerard.Jones\", \r\n   \"gender\": \"female\", \r\n   \"locale\": \"en_US\"\r\n}";
dynamic data = JObject.Parse(source);
Console.WriteLine(data.id);
Console.WriteLine(data.first_name);
Console.WriteLine(data.last_name);
Console.WriteLine(data.gender);
Console.WriteLine(data.locale);

Happy coding!

Bootstrap Modal Backdrop Remaining

This is what worked for me -

When the hidden.bs.modal event is fired, jQuery's .remove() function can remove the element that has .modal-backdrop class. So each time the modal is closed, the modal-backdrop will be removed.

//setting callback function for 'hidden.bs.modal' event
$('#modal').on('hidden.bs.modal', function(){
  //remove the backdrop
  $('.modal-backdrop').remove();
})

Good Luck.

Execute method on startup in Spring

Attention, this is only advised if your runOnceOnStartup method depends on a fully initialized spring context. For example: you wan to call a dao with transaction demarcation

You can also use a scheduled method with fixedDelay set very high

@Scheduled(fixedDelay = Long.MAX_VALUE)
public void runOnceOnStartup() {
    dosomething();
}

This has the advantage that the whole application is wired up (Transactions, Dao, ...)

seen in Scheduling tasks to run once, using the Spring task namespace

    var num = parseFloat(document.getElementById('textbox').value);
    var new_num = num.toFixed(2);
    document.getElementById('textbox').value = new_num;

Why isn't textarea an input[type="textarea"]?

I realize this is an older post, but thought this might be helpful to anyone wondering the same question:

While the previous answers are no doubt valid, there is a more simple reason for the distinction between textarea and input.

As mentioned previously, HTML is used to describe and give as much semantic structure to web content as possible, including input forms. A textarea may be used for input, however a textarea can also be marked as read only via the readonly attribute. The existence of such an attribute would not make any sense for an input type, and thus the distinction.

Why is width: 100% not working on div {display: table-cell}?

I discovered that the higher the value of 'width' is, the smaller the box width is made and vice versa. I found this out because I had the same problem earlier. So:

.inner-wrapper {
    width: 1%;
}

solves the problem.

RandomForestClassfier.fit(): ValueError: could not convert string to float

You have to do some encoding before using fit. As it was told fit() does not accept Strings but you solve this.

There are several classes that can be used :

  • LabelEncoder : turn your string into incremental value
  • OneHotEncoder : use One-of-K algorithm to transform your String into integer

Personally I have post almost the same question on StackOverflow some time ago. I wanted to have a scalable solution but didn't get any answer. I selected OneHotEncoder that binarize all the strings. It is quite effective but if you have a lot different strings the matrix will grow very quickly and memory will be required.

JS how to cache a variable

I have written a generic caching func() which will cache any variable easily and very readable format. Caching function:

      return result;
    }
    return cache[string];
  }
}

const letsCache = caching(calculateSomethingMaybe);

console.log(letsCache('a book'), letsCache('a pen'), letsCache('a book'));

How to echo with different colors in the Windows command line

There is an accepted answer with more than 250 upvotes already. The reason I am still contributing is that the escape character required for echoing is not accepted by many editors (I am using, e.g., MS Code) and all other solutions require some third-party (non-Windows-default) pieces of software.

The work-around with using only plain batch commands is using PROMPT instead of ECHO. The PROMPT command accepts the escape character in an any-editor-friendly way as a $Echaracter sequence. (Simply replace the Esc in the ASCII Escape codes) with $E.

Here is a demo code:

@ECHO OFF

    :: Do not pollute environment with the %prompt.bak% variable
    :: ! forgetting ENDLOCAL at the end of the batch leads to prompt corruption
    SETLOCAL

    :: Old prompt settings backup
    SET prompt.bak=%PROMPT%

    :: Entering the "ECHO"-like section

        :: Forcing prompt to display after every command (see below)
        ECHO ON

        :: Setting the prompt using the ANSI Escape sequence(s)
        :: - Always start with $E[1A, otherwise the text would appear on a next line
        :: - Then the decorated text follows
        :: - And it all ends with $E30;40m, which makes the following command invisible
        :: - assuming default background color of the screen
        @ PROMPT $E[1A$E[30;42mHELLO$E[30;40m

        :: An "empty" command that forces the prompt to display.
        :: The word "rem" is displayed along with the prompt text but is made invisible
        rem

        :: Just another text to display
        @ PROMPT $E[1A$E[33;41mWORLD$E[30;40m
        rem

        :: Leaving the "ECHO"-like section
        @ECHO OFF

    :: Or a more readable version utilizing the cursor manipulation ASCII ESC sequences

        :: the initial sequence

NOTE: The only drawback is that this technique collides with user cmd color settings (color command or settings) if not known explicitly.

EDIT:

Based on comments, I am enclosing another snippet inspired by @Jeb. It:

  • Shows how to obtain and use the "Esc" character runtime (rather than entering it to an editor) (Jeb's solution)
  • Uses "native" ECHO command(s)
  • So it does not affect local PROMPT value
  • Demonstrates that coloring the ECHO output inevitably affect PROMPT color so the color must be reset, anyway

Passing arguments forward to another javascript function

The explanation that none of the other answers supplies is that the original arguments are still available, but not in the original position in the arguments object.

The arguments object contains one element for each actual parameter provided to the function. When you call a you supply three arguments: the numbers 1, 2, and, 3. So, arguments contains [1, 2, 3].

function a(args){
    console.log(arguments) // [1, 2, 3]
    b(arguments);
}

When you call b, however, you pass exactly one argument: a's arguments object. So arguments contains [[1, 2, 3]] (i.e. one element, which is a's arguments object, which has properties containing the original arguments to a).

function b(args){
    // arguments are lost?
    console.log(arguments) // [[1, 2, 3]]
}

a(1,2,3);

As @Nick demonstrated, you can use apply to provide a set arguments object in the call.

The following achieves the same result:

function a(args){
    b(arguments[0], arguments[1], arguments[2]); // three arguments
}

But apply is the correct solution in the general case.

How to get thread id of a pthread in linux c program?

pthread_self() function will give the thread id of current thread.

pthread_t pthread_self(void);

The pthread_self() function returns the Pthread handle of the calling thread. The pthread_self() function does NOT return the integral thread of the calling thread. You must use pthread_getthreadid_np() to return an integral identifier for the thread.

NOTE:

pthread_id_np_t   tid;
tid = pthread_getthreadid_np();

is significantly faster than these calls, but provides the same behavior.

pthread_id_np_t   tid;
pthread_t         self;
self = pthread_self();
pthread_getunique_np(&self, &tid);

Tool to compare directories (Windows 7)

I use WinMerge. It is free and works pretty well (works for files and directories).

Copy text from nano editor to shell

First method

This method seems to work when the content doesn't include ?.

Install xsel or similar and assign a global shortcut key for this command in your WM or DE:

xsel -o | sed -r 's/^ ?[[:digit:]]+($| +)//g' | perl -pe 's/\n/?/g' | sed -r 's/??/\n\n/g; s/ ?? {1,}/ /g; s/?/\n/g' | xsel -b

Put this in your ~/.Xresources:

*selectToClipboard: false

Issue this in your xterm once to activate the above option:

xrdb -load ~/.Xresources

Now select the line(s) including the line numbers by pressing Shift while dragging the mouse. After the selection click your key combo; the line(s) are coppied and ready to be pasted anywhere you like.

Second method

Doesn't have the shortcoming of the first method.

Install xdotool and xsel or similar.

Put these two lines

Ctrl <Btn3Down>: select-start(PRIMARY, CLIPBOARD)
Ctrl <Btn3Up>: select-end(CLIPBOARD, PRIMARY)

in your ~/.Xresources like so:

*VT100*translations: #override \n\
    Alt <Key> 0xf6: exec-formatted("xdg-open '%t'", PRIMARY, CUT_BUFFER0) \n\
    Ctrl <Key>0x2bb: copy-selection(CLIPBOARD) \n\
    Alt <Key>0x2bb: insert-selection(CLIPBOARD) \n\
    Ctrl <Key> +:       larger-vt-font() \n\
    Ctrl <Key> -:       smaller-vt-font() \n\
    Ctrl <Btn3Down>: select-start(PRIMARY, CLIPBOARD) \n\
    Ctrl <Btn3Up>: select-end(CLIPBOARD, PRIMARY)

Issue this in your xterm once to activate the above option:

xrdb -load ~/.Xresources

Create this scrip in your path:

#!/bin/bash

filepid=$(xdotool getwindowpid $(xdotool getactivewindow))
file=$(ps -p "$filepid" o cmd | grep -o --color=never "/.*")

firstline=$(xsel -b)
lastline=$(xsel)

sed -n ""$firstline","$lastline"p" "$file" | xsel -b

Assign a global shortcut key to call this script in your WM or DE.

Now when you want to copy a line (paragraph), select only the line number of that line (paragraph) by right mouse button while pressing Shift+Ctrl. After the selection click your custom global key combo you've created before. The line (paragraph) is coppied and ready to be pasted anywhere you like.

If you want to copy multiple lines, do the above for the first line and then for the last line of the range, instead of Shift+Ctrl+Btn3 (right mouse button), just select the number by left mouse button while pressing only Shift. After this, again call the script by your custom global shortcut. The range of lines are coppied and ready to pasted anywhere you like.

Remove border radius from Select tag in bootstrap 3

I had the same issue and while user1732055's answer fixes the border, it removes the dropdown arrows. I solved this by removing the border from the select element and creating a wrapper span which has a border.

html:

<span class="select-wrapper">
    <select class="form-control no-radius">
        <option value="1">1</option>
        <option value="2">2</option>
        <option value="3">3</option>
    </select>
</span>

css:

select.no-radius{
    border:none;
}
.select-wrapper{
    border: 1px solid black;
    border-radius: 0px;
}

Checking if a double (or float) is NaN in C++

First solution: if you are using C++11

Since this was asked there were a bit of new developments: it is important to know that std::isnan() is part of C++11

Synopsis

Defined in header <cmath>

bool isnan( float arg ); (since C++11)
bool isnan( double arg ); (since C++11)
bool isnan( long double arg ); (since C++11)

Determines if the given floating point number arg is not-a-number (NaN).

Parameters

arg: floating point value

Return value

true if arg is NaN, false otherwise

Reference

http://en.cppreference.com/w/cpp/numeric/math/isnan

Please note that this is incompatible with -fast-math if you use g++, see below for other suggestions.

Other solutions: if you using non C++11 compliant tools

For C99, in C, this is implemented as a macro isnan(c)that returns an int value. The type of x shall be float, double or long double.

Various vendors may or may not include or not a function isnan().

The supposedly portable way to check for NaN is to use the IEEE 754 property that NaN is not equal to itself: i.e. x == x will be false for x being NaN.

However the last option may not work with every compiler and some settings (particularly optimisation settings), so in last resort, you can always check the bit pattern ...
