Programs & Examples On #Textout

How do I link to a library with Code::Blocks?

At a guess, you used Code::Blocks to create a Console Application project. Such a project does not link in the GDI stuff, because console applications are generally not intended to do graphics, and TextOut is a graphics function. If you want to use the features of the GDI, you should create a Win32 Gui Project, which will be set up to link in the GDI for you.

MVC Redirect to View from jQuery with parameters

If your click handler is successfully called then this should work:

$('#results').on('click', '.item', function () {
            var NestId = $(this).data('id');
            var url = "/Artists/Details?NestId=" + NestId;
            window.location.href = url;
        })

EDIT: In this particular case given that the action method parameter is a string which is nullable, then if NestId == null, won't cause any exception at all, given that the ModelBinder won't complain about it.

Calculate mean and standard deviation from a vector of samples in C++ using Boost

If performance is important to you, and your compiler supports lambdas, the stdev calculation can be made faster and simpler: In tests with VS 2012 I've found that the following code is over 10 X quicker than the Boost code given in the chosen answer; it's also 5 X quicker than the safer version of the answer using standard libraries given by musiphil.

Note I'm using sample standard deviation, so the below code gives slightly different results (Why there is a Minus One in Standard Deviations)

double sum = std::accumulate(std::begin(v), std::end(v), 0.0);
double m =  sum / v.size();

double accum = 0.0;
std::for_each (std::begin(v), std::end(v), [&](const double d) {
    accum += (d - m) * (d - m);
});

double stdev = sqrt(accum / (v.size()-1));

integrating barcode scanner into php application?

PHP can be easily utilized for reading bar codes printed on paper documents. Connecting manual barcode reader to the computer via USB significantly extends usability of PHP (or any other web programming language) into tasks involving document and product management, like finding a book records in the database or listing all bills for a particular customer.

Following sections briefly describe process of connecting and using manual bar code reader with PHP.

The usage of bar code scanners described in this article are in the same way applicable to any web programming language, such as ASP, Python or Perl. This article uses only PHP since all tests have been done with PHP applications.

What is a bar code reader (scanner)

Bar code reader is a hardware pluggable into computer that sends decoded bar code strings into computer. The trick is to know how to catch that received string. With PHP (and any other web programming language) the string will be placed into focused input HTML element in browser. Thus to catch received bar code string, following must be done:

just before reading the bar code, proper input element, such as INPUT TEXT FIELD must be focused (mouse cursor is inside of the input field). once focused, start reading the code when the code is recognized (bar code reader usually shortly beeps), it is send to the focused input field. By default, most of bar code readers will append extra special character to decoded bar code string called CRLF (ENTER). For example, if decoded bar code is "12345AB", then computer will receive "12345ABENTER". Appended character ENTER (or CRLF) emulates pressing the key ENTER causing instant submission of the HTML form:

<form action="search.php" method="post">
    <input name="documentID" onmouseover="this.focus();" type="text">
</form>

Choosing the right bar code scanner

When choosing bar code reader, one should consider what types of bar codes will be read with it. Some bar codes allow only numbers, others will not have checksum, some bar codes are difficult to print with inkjet printers, some barcode readers have narrow reading pane and cannot read for example barcodes with length over 10 cm. Most of barcode readers support common barcodes, such as EAN8, EAN13, CODE 39, Interleaved 2/5, Code 128 etc.

For office purposes, the most suitable barcodes seem to be those supporting full range of alphanumeric characters, which might be:

  • code 39 - supports 0-9, uppercased A-Z, and few special characters (dash, comma, space, $, /, +, %, *)
  • code 128 - supports 0-9, a-z, A-Z and other extended characters

Other important things to note:

  • make sure all standard barcodes are supported, at least CODE39, CODE128, Interleaved25, EAN8, EAN13, PDF417, QRCODE.
  • use only standard USB plugin cables. RS232 interfaces are meant for industrial usage, rather than connecting to single PC.
  • the cable should be long enough, at least 1.5 m - the longer the better.
  • bar code reader plugged into computer should not require other power supply - it should power up simply by connecting to PC via USB.
  • if you also need to print bar code into generated PDF documents, you can use TCPDF open source library that supports most of common 2D bar codes.

Installing scanner drivers

Installing manual bar code reader requires installing drivers for your particular operating system and should be normally supplied with purchased bar code reader.

Once installed and ready, bar code reader turns on signal LED light. Reading the barcode starts with pressing button for reading.

Scanning the barcode - how does it work?

STEP 1 - Focused input field ready for receiving character stream from bar code scanner:

step 1

STEP 2 - Received barcode string from bar code scanner is immediatelly submitted for search into database, which creates nice "automated" effect:

step 2

STEP 3 - Results returned after searching the database with submitted bar code:

step 3

Conclusion

It seems, that utilization of PHP (and actually any web programming language) for scanning the bar codes has been quite overlooked so far. However, with natural support of emulated keypress (ENTER/CRLF) it is very easy to automate collecting & processing recognized bar code strings via simple HTML (GUI) fomular.

The key is to understand, that recognized bar code string is instantly sent to the focused HTML element, such as INPUT text field with appended trailing character ASCII 13 (=ENTER/CRLF, configurable option), which instantly sends input text field with populated received barcode as a HTML formular to any other script for further processing.

Why should I use core.autocrlf=true in Git?

The only specific reasons to set autocrlf to true are:

  • avoid git status showing all your files as modified because of the automatic EOL conversion done when cloning a Unix-based EOL Git repo to a Windows one (see issue 83 for instance)
  • and your coding tools somehow depends on a native EOL style being present in your file:

Unless you can see specific treatment which must deal with native EOL, you are better off leaving autocrlf to false (git config --global core.autocrlf false).

Note that this config would be a local one (because config isn't pushed from repo to repo)

If you want the same config for all users cloning that repo, check out "What's the best CRLF handling strategy with git?", using the text attribute in the .gitattributes file.

Example:

*.vcproj    text eol=crlf
*.sh        text eol=lf

Note: starting git 2.8 (March 2016), merge markers will no longer introduce mixed line ending (LF) in a CRLF file.
See "Make Git use CRLF on its “<<<<<<< HEAD” merge lines"

Quick Way to Implement Dictionary in C

The quickest way would be to use an already-existing implementation, like uthash.

And, if you really want to code it yourself, the algorithms from uthash can be examined and re-used. It's BSD-licensed so, other than the requirement to convey the copyright notice, you're pretty well unlimited in what you can do with it.

Vue.js unknown custom element

You forgot about the components section in your Vue initialization. So Vue actually doesn't know about your component.

Change it to:

var myTask = Vue.component('my-task', {
 template: '#task-template',
 data: function() {
  return this.tasks; //Notice: in components data should return an object. For example "return { someProp: 1 }"
 },
 props: ['task']
});

new Vue({
 el: '#app',
 data: {
  tasks: [{
    name: "task 1",
    completed: false
   },
   {
    name: "task 2",
    completed: false
   },
   {
    name: "task 3",
    completed: true
   }
  ]
 },
 components: {
  myTask: myTask
 },
 methods: {

 },
 computed: {

 },
 ready: function() {

 }

});

And here is jsBin, where all seems to works correctly: http://jsbin.com/lahawepube/edit?html,js,output

UPDATE

Sometimes you want your components to be globally visible to other components.

In this case you need to register your components in this way, before your Vue initialization or export (in case if you want to register component from the other component)

Vue.component('exampleComponent', require('./components/ExampleComponent.vue')); //component name should be in camel-case

After you can add your component inside your vue el:

<example-component></example-component>

How to print a certain line of a file with PowerShell?

You can use the -TotalCount parameter of the Get-Content cmdlet to read the first n lines, then use Select-Object to return only the nth line:

Get-Content file.txt -TotalCount 9 | Select-Object -Last 1;

Per the comment from @C.B. this should improve performance by only reading up to and including the nth line, rather than the entire file. Note that you can use the aliases -First or -Head in place of -TotalCount.

google map API zoom range

Available Zoom Levels

Zoom level 0 is the most zoomed out zoom level available and each integer step in zoom level halves the X and Y extents of the view and doubles the linear resolution.

Google Maps was built on a 256x256 pixel tile system where zoom level 0 was a 256x256 pixel image of the whole earth. A 256x256 tile for zoom level 1 enlarges a 128x128 pixel region from zoom level 0.

As correctly stated by bkaid, the available zoom range depends on where you are looking and the kind of map you are using:

  • Road maps - seem to go up to zoom level 22 everywhere
  • Hybrid and satellite maps - the max available zoom levels depend on location. Here are some examples:
  • Remote regions of Antarctica: 13
  • Gobi Desert: 17
  • Much of the U.S. and Europe: 21
  • "Deep zoom" locations: 22-23 (see bkaid's link)

Note that these values are for the Google Static Maps API which seems to give one more zoom level than the Javascript API. It appears that the extra zoom level available for Static Maps is just an upsampled version of the max-resolution image from the Javascript API.

Map Scale at Various Zoom Levels

Google Maps uses a Mercator projection so the scale varies substantially with latitude. A formula for calculating the correct scale based on latitude is:

meters_per_pixel = 156543.03392 * Math.cos(latLng.lat() * Math.PI / 180) / Math.pow(2, zoom)

Formula is from Chris Broadfoot's comment.

Using jQuery to compare two arrays of Javascript objects

My approach was quite different - I flattened out both collections using JSON.stringify and used a normal string compare to check for equality.

I.e.

var arr1 = [
             {Col: 'a', Val: 1},
             {Col: 'b', Val: 2},
             {Col: 'c', Val: 3}
           ];

var arr2 = [
             {Col: 'x', Val: 24},
             {Col: 'y', Val: 25},
             {Col: 'z', Val: 26}
           ];

if(JSON.stringify(arr1) == JSON.stringify(arr2)){
    alert('Collections are equal');
}else{
    alert('Collections are not equal');
}

NB: Please note that his method assumes that both Collections are sorted in a similar fashion, if not, it would give you a false result!

What is the difference between <section> and <div>?

Here is a tip on how I distinguish couple of recent html5 elements in the case of a web application (purely subjective).

<section> marks a widget in a graphical user interface, whereas <div> is the container of the components of a widget like a container holding a button, and a label etc.

<article> groups widgets that share a purpose.

<header> is title and menubar.

<footer> is the statusbar.

Android Studio: Gradle: error: cannot find symbol variable

Make sure your variables are in scope for the method that is referencing it. For example I had defined a textview locally in a method in the class and was referencing it in another method.

I moved the textview definition outside the method right below the class definition so the other method could access the definition, which resolved the problem.

Switch role after connecting to database

--create a user that you want to use the database as:

create role neil;

--create the user for the web server to connect as:

create role webgui noinherit login password 's3cr3t';

--let webgui set role to neil:

grant neil to webgui; --this looks backwards but is correct.

webgui is now in the neil group, so webgui can call set role neil . However, webgui did not inherit neil's permissions.

Later, login as webgui:

psql -d some_database -U webgui
(enter s3cr3t as password)

set role neil;

webgui does not need superuser permission for this.

You want to set role at the beginning of a database session and reset it at the end of the session. In a web app, this corresponds to getting a connection from your database connection pool and releasing it, respectively. Here's an example using Tomcat's connection pool and Spring Security:

public class SetRoleJdbcInterceptor extends JdbcInterceptor {

    @Override
    public void reset(ConnectionPool connectionPool, PooledConnection pooledConnection) {

        Authentication authentication = SecurityContextHolder.getContext().getAuthentication();

        if(authentication != null) {
            try {

                /*
                  use OWASP's ESAPI to encode the username to avoid SQL Injection. Can't use parameters with SET ROLE. Need to write PG codec.

                  Or use a whitelist-map approach
                */
                String username = ESAPI.encoder().encodeForSQL(MY_CODEC, authentication.getName());

                Statement statement = pooledConnection.getConnection().createStatement();
                statement.execute("set role \"" + username + "\"");
                statement.close();
            } catch(SQLException exp){
                throw new RuntimeException(exp);
            }
        }
    }

    @Override
    public Object invoke(Object proxy, Method method, Object[] args) throws Throwable {

        if("close".equals(method.getName())){
            Statement statement = ((Connection)proxy).createStatement();
            statement.execute("reset role");
            statement.close();
        }

        return super.invoke(proxy, method, args);
    }
}

GenyMotion Unable to start the Genymotion virtual device

If as me you've tried everything above (especially windows 10 users ) and nothing helped here is what eventually solved the issue. The solution was ridiculously easy but took a day to figure it out.

  1. Recommended to remove host only network adapter from virtual box, to do that open virtual box File->Preferences->Network->select tab host only network adapter->remove all (no worries when you start a vm from genymotion it will create new). Now open Genymotion and try to start your virtual device. Get the error ? that's good follow second step
  2. (What actually fixed the issue) Go to Control Panel->Network and Internet->Network Connections, on there you should see an Ethernet network adapter that virtual box created ( it was created automatically when you started device from genymotion), so right click on it then Properties then CHECK VirtualBox NDIS6 Bridged Networking Driver, see image attached. see image attached
  3. You're done. Start your device from genymotion, should work now.

How do I rename both a Git local and remote branch name?

If you have named a branch incorrectly AND pushed this to the remote repository follow these steps to rename that branch (based on this article):

  1. Rename your local branch:

    • If you are on the branch you want to rename:
      git branch -m new-name

    • If you are on a different branch:
      git branch -m old-name new-name

  2. Delete the old-name remote branch and push the new-name local branch:
    git push origin :old-name new-name

  3. Reset the upstream branch for the new-name local branch:
    Switch to the branch and then:
    git push origin -u new-name

How to sort a dataFrame in python pandas by two or more columns?

For large dataframes of numeric data, you may see a significant performance improvement via numpy.lexsort, which performs an indirect sort using a sequence of keys:

import pandas as pd
import numpy as np

np.random.seed(0)

df1 = pd.DataFrame(np.random.randint(1, 5, (10,2)), columns=['a','b'])
df1 = pd.concat([df1]*100000)

def pdsort(df1):
    return df1.sort_values(['a', 'b'], ascending=[True, False])

def lex(df1):
    arr = df1.values
    return pd.DataFrame(arr[np.lexsort((-arr[:, 1], arr[:, 0]))])

assert (pdsort(df1).values == lex(df1).values).all()

%timeit pdsort(df1)  # 193 ms per loop
%timeit lex(df1)     # 143 ms per loop

One peculiarity is that the defined sorting order with numpy.lexsort is reversed: (-'b', 'a') sorts by series a first. We negate series b to reflect we want this series in descending order.

Be aware that np.lexsort only sorts with numeric values, while pd.DataFrame.sort_values works with either string or numeric values. Using np.lexsort with strings will give: TypeError: bad operand type for unary -: 'str'.

Can we have multiple <tbody> in same <table>?

EDIT: The caption tag belongs to table and thus should only exist once. Do not associate a caption with each tbody element like I did:

<table>
    <caption>First Half of Table (British Dinner)</caption>
    <tbody>
        <tr><th>1</th><td>Fish</td></tr>
        <tr><th>2</th><td>Chips</td></tr>
        <tr><th>3</th><td>Pease</td></tr>
        <tr><th>4</th><td>Gravy</td></tr>
    </tbody>
    <caption>Second Half of Table (Italian Dinner)</caption>
    <tbody>
        <tr><th>5</th><td>Pizza</td></tr>
        <tr><th>6</th><td>Salad</td></tr>
        <tr><th>7</th><td>Oil</td></tr>
        <tr><th>8</th><td>Bread</td></tr>
    </tbody>
</table>

BAD EXAMPLE ABOVE: DO NOT COPY

The above example does not render as you would expect because writing like this indicates a misunderstanding of the caption tag. You would need lots of CSS hacks to make it render correctly because you would be going against standards.

I searched for W3Cs standards on the caption tag but could not find an explicit rule that states there must be only one caption element per table but that is in fact the case.

How do you use NSAttributedString?

To solve such kind of problems I created library in swift which is called Atributika.

Getting list of pixel values from PIL

Looks like PILlow may have changed tostring() to tobytes(). When trying to extract RGBA pixels to get them into an OpenGL texture, the following worked for me (within the glTexImage2D call which I omit for brevity).

from PIL import Image
img = Image.open("mandrill.png").rotate(180).transpose(Image.FLIP_LEFT_RIGHT)

# use img.convert("RGBA").tobytes() as texels

jQuery function after .append

I came across the same problem and have found a simple solution. Add after calling the append function a document ready.

_x000D_
$("#root").append(child);_x000D_
$(document).ready(function () {_x000D_
    // Action after append is completly done_x000D_
});

Python open() gives FileNotFoundError/IOError: Errno 2 No such file or directory

  • Make sure the file exists: use os.listdir() to see the list of files in the current working directory
  • Make sure you're in the directory you think you're in with os.getcwd() (if you launch your code from an IDE, you may well be in a different directory)
  • You can then either:
    • Call os.chdir(dir), dir being the folder where the file is located, then open the file with just its name like you were doing.
    • Specify an absolute path to the file in your open call.
  • Remember to use a raw string if your path uses backslashes, like so: dir = r'C:\Python32'
    • If you don't use raw-string, you have to escape every backslash: 'C:\\User\\Bob\\...'
    • Forward-slashes also work on Windows 'C:/Python32' and do not need to be escaped.

Let me clarify how Python finds files:

  • An absolute path is a path that starts with your computer's root directory, for example 'C:\Python\scripts..' if you're on Windows.
  • A relative path is a path that does not start with your computer's root directory, and is instead relative to something called the working directory. You can view Python's current working directory by calling os.getcwd().

If you try to do open('sortedLists.yaml'), Python will see that you are passing it a relative path, so it will search for the file inside the current working directory. Calling os.chdir will change the current working directory.

Example: Let's say file.txt is found in C:\Folder.

To open it, you can do:

os.chdir(r'C:\Folder')
open('file.txt') #relative path, looks inside the current working directory

or

open(r'C:\Folder\file.txt') #full path

Efficiently convert rows to columns in sql server

This is rather a method than just a single script but gives you much more flexibility.

First of all There are 3 objects:

  1. User defined TABLE type [ColumnActionList] -> holds data as parameter
  2. SP [proc_PivotPrepare] -> prepares our data
  3. SP [proc_PivotExecute] -> execute the script

CREATE TYPE [dbo].[ColumnActionList] AS TABLE ( [ID] [smallint] NOT NULL, [ColumnName] nvarchar NOT NULL, [Action] nchar NOT NULL ); GO

    CREATE PROCEDURE [dbo].[proc_PivotPrepare]

SELECT * FROM ##ALL_Dimentions;
EXECUTE SP_EXECUTESQL @FinalCode;

From executing the first query (by passing source DB and table name) you will get a pre-created execution query for the second SP, all you have to do is define is the column from your source: + Stable + Value (will be used to concentrate values based on that) + Dim (column you want to use to pivot by)

Names and datatypes will be defined automatically!

I cant recommend it for any production environments but does the job for adhoc BI requests.

"Uncaught (in promise) undefined" error when using with=location in Facebook Graph API query

The reject actually takes one parameter: that's the exception that occurred in your code that caused the promise to be rejected. So, when you call reject() the exception value is undefined, hence the "undefined" part in the error that you get.

You do not show the code that uses the promise, but I reckon it is something like this:

var promise = doSth();
promise.then(function() { doSthHere(); });

Try adding an empty failure call, like this:

promise.then(function() { doSthHere(); }, function() {});

This will prevent the error to appear.

However, I would consider calling reject only in case of an actual error, and also... having empty exception handlers isn't the best programming practice.

How to get N rows starting from row M from sorted table in T-SQL

In order to do this in SQL Server, you must order the query by a column, so you can specify the rows you want.

You can't use the "TOP" keyword when doing this, you must use offset N rows fetch next M rows.

Example:

select * from table order by [some_column]
offset 10 rows
FETCH NEXT 10 rows only

Rails: Why "sudo" command is not recognized?

Sudo is a Unix specific command designed to allow a user to carry out administrative tasks with the appropriate permissions. Windows doesn't not have (need?) this.

Yes, windows don't have sudo on its terminal. Try using pip instead.

  1. Install pip using the steps here.
  2. type pip install [package name] on the terminal. In this case, it may be pdfkit or wkhtmltopdf.

fail to change placeholder color with Bootstrap 3

Assign the placeholder to a class selector like this:

.form-control::-webkit-input-placeholder { color: white; }  /* WebKit, Blink, Edge */
.form-control:-moz-placeholder { color: white; }  /* Mozilla Firefox 4 to 18 */
.form-control::-moz-placeholder { color: white; }  /* Mozilla Firefox 19+ */
.form-control:-ms-input-placeholder { color: white; }  /* Internet Explorer 10-11 */
.form-control::-ms-input-placeholder { color: white; }  /* Microsoft Edge */

It will work then since a stronger selector was probably overriding your global. I'm on a tablet so i cant inspect and confirm which stronger selector it was :) But it does work I tried it in your fiddle.

This also answers your second question. By assigning it to a class or id and giving an input only that class you can control what inputs to style.

How to Access Hive via Python?

I have solved the same problem with you,here is my operation environment( System:linux Versions:python 3.6 Package:Pyhive) please refer to my answer as follows:

from pyhive import hive
conn = hive.Connection(host='149.129.***.**', port=10000, username='*', database='*',password="*",auth='LDAP')

The key point is to add the reference password & auth and meanwhile set the auth equal to 'LDAP' . Then it works well, any questions please let me know

jQuery: how to find first visible input/select/textarea excluding buttons?

Here is my solution. The code should be easy enough to follow but here is the idea:

  • get all inputs, selects, and textareas
  • filter out all buttons and hidden fields
  • filter to only enabled, visible fields
  • select the first one
  • focus the selected field

The code:

function focusFirst(parent) {
    $(parent).find('input, textarea, select')
        .not('input[type=hidden],input[type=button],input[type=submit],input[type=reset],input[type=image],button')
        .filter(':enabled:visible:first')
        .focus();
}

Then simply call focusFirst with your parent element or selector.

Selector:

focusFirst('form#aspnetForm');

Element:

var el = $('form#aspnetForm');
focusFirst(el);

Making an image act like a button

You could implement a JavaScript block which contains a function with your needs.

<div style="position: absolute; left: 10px; top: 40px;">
    <img src="logg.png" width="114" height="38" onclick="DoSomething();" />
</div>

How to validate domain name in PHP?

If you don't want to use regular expressions, you can try this:

$str = 'domain-name';

if (ctype_alnum(str_replace('-', '', $str)) && $str[0] != '-' && $str[strlen($str) - 1] != '-') {
    echo "Valid domain\n";
} else {
    echo "Invalid domain\n";
}

but as said regexp are the best tool for this.

Enable & Disable a Div and its elements in Javascript

If you want to disable all the div's controls, you can try adding a transparent div on the div to disable, you gonna make it unclickable, also use fadeTo to create a disable appearance.

try this.

$('#DisableDiv').fadeTo('slow',.6);
$('#DisableDiv').append('<div style="position: absolute;top:0;left:0;width: 100%;height:100%;z-index:2;opacity:0.4;filter: alpha(opacity = 50)"></div>');

Apple Cover-flow effect using jQuery or other library?

the effect that happens when you hit the space bar in a folder of documents, allowing you to preview them in a lightbox fashion

When should I write the keyword 'inline' for a function/method?

You still need to explicitly inline your function when doing template specialization (if specialization is in .h file)

Mysql where id is in array

Change

$array=array_map('intval', explode(',', $string));

To:

$array= implode(',', array_map('intval', explode(',', $string)));

array_map returns an array, not a string. You need to convert the array to a comma separated string in order to use in the WHERE clause.

CSS :selected pseudo class similar to :checked, but for <select> elements

How do I upload a file with the JS fetch API?

This is a basic example with comments. The upload function is what you are looking for:

// Select your input type file and store it in a variable
const input = document.getElementById('fileinput');

// This will upload the file after having read it
const upload = (file) => {
  fetch('http://www.example.net', { // Your POST endpoint
    method: 'POST',
    headers: {
      // Content-Type may need to be completely **omitted**
      // or you may need something
      "Content-Type": "You will perhaps need to define a content-type here"
    },
    body: file // This is your file object
  }).then(
    response => response.json() // if the response is a JSON object
  ).then(
    success => console.log(success) // Handle the success response object
  ).catch(
    error => console.log(error) // Handle the error response object
  );
};

// Event handler executed when a file is selected
const onSelectFile = () => upload(input.files[0]);

// Add a listener on your input
// It will be triggered when a file will be selected
input.addEventListener('change', onSelectFile, false);

How to identify if a webpage is being loaded inside an iframe or directly into the browser window?

RoBorg is correct, but I wanted to add a side note.

In IE7/IE8 when Microsoft added Tabs to their browser they broke one thing that will cause havoc with your JS if you are not careful.

Imagine this page layout:

MainPage.html
  IframedPage1.html   (named "foo")
  IframedPage2.html   (named "bar")
    IframedPage3.html (named "baz")

Now in frame "baz" you click a link (no target, loads in the "baz" frame) it works fine.

If the page that gets loaded, lets call it special.html, uses JS to check if "it" has a parent frame named "bar" it will return true (expected).

Now lets say that the special.html page when it loads, checks the parent frame (for existence and its name, and if it is "bar" it reloads itself in the bar frame. e.g.

if(window.parent && window.parent.name == 'bar'){
  window.parent.location = self.location;
}

So far so good. Now comes the bug.

Lets say instead of clicking on the original link like normal, and loading the special.html page in the "baz" frame, you middle-clicked it or chose to open it in a new Tab.

When that new tab loads (with no parent frames at all!) IE will enter an endless loop of page loading! because IE "copies over" the frame structure in JavaScript such that the new tab DOES have a parent, and that parent HAS the name "bar".

The good news, is that checking:

if(self == top){
  //this returns true!
}

in that new tab does return true, and thus you can test for this odd condition.

MongoDB and "joins"

one kind of join a query in mongoDB, is ask at one collection for id that match , put ids in a list (idlist) , and do find using on other (or same) collection with $in : idlist

u = db.friends.find({"friends": something }).toArray()
idlist= []
u.forEach(function(myDoc) { idlist.push(myDoc.id ); } )
db.family.find({"id": {$in : idlist} } )

How do I enable FFMPEG logging and where can I find the FFMPEG log file?

FFmpeg does not write to a specific log file, but rather sends its output to standard error. To capture that, you need to either

  • capture and parse it as it is generated
  • redirect standard error to a file and read that afterward the process is finished

Example for std error redirection:

ffmpeg -i myinput.avi {a-bunch-of-important-params} out.flv 2> /path/to/out.txt

Once the process is done, you can inspect out.txt.

It's a bit trickier to do the first option, but it is possible. (I've done it myself. So have others. Have a look around SO and the net for details.)

jquery's append not working with svg element?

The accepted answer by Bobince is a short, portable solution. If you need to not only append SVG but also manipulate it, you could try the JavaScript library "Pablo" (I wrote it). It will feel familiar to jQuery users.

Your code example would then look like:

$(document).ready(function(){
    Pablo("svg").append('<circle cx="100" cy="50" r="40" stroke="black" stroke-width="2" fill="red"/>');
});

You can also create SVG elements on the fly, without specifying markup:

var circle = Pablo.circle({
    cx:100,
    cy:50,
    r:40
}).appendTo('svg');

Tomcat 8 Maven Plugin for Java 8

groupId and Mojo name change Since version 2.0-beta-1 tomcat mojos has been renamed to tomcat6 and tomcat7 with the same goals.

You must configure your pom to use this new groupId:

<pluginManagement>
  <plugins>
    <plugin>
      <groupId>org.apache.tomcat.maven</groupId>
      <artifactId>tomcat6-maven-plugin</artifactId>
      <version>2.3-SNAPSHOT</version>
    </plugin>
    <plugin>
      <groupId>org.apache.tomcat.maven</groupId>
      <artifactId>tomcat7-maven-plugin</artifactId>
      <version>2.3-SNAPSHOT</version>
    </plugin>
  </plugins>
</pluginManagement>

Or add the groupId in your settings.xml

.... org.apache.tomcat.maven ....

How do I get the current timezone name in Postgres 9.3?

This may or may not help you address your problem, OP, but to get the timezone of the current server relative to UTC (UT1, technically), do:

SELECT EXTRACT(TIMEZONE FROM now())/3600.0;

The above works by extracting the UT1-relative offset in minutes, and then converting it to hours using the factor of 3600 secs/hour.

Example:

SET SESSION timezone TO 'Asia/Kabul';
SELECT EXTRACT(TIMEZONE FROM now())/3600.0;
-- output: 4.5 (as of the writing of this post)

Get input value from TextField in iOS alert in Swift

Swift 3/4

You can use the below extension for your convenience.

Usage inside a ViewController:

showInputDialog(title: "Add number",
                subtitle: "Please enter the new number below.",
                actionTitle: "Add",
                cancelTitle: "Cancel",
                inputPlaceholder: "New number",
                inputKeyboardType: .numberPad)
{ (input:String?) in
    print("The new number is \(input ?? "")")
}

The extension code:

extension UIViewController {
    func showInputDialog(title:String? = nil,
                         subtitle:String? = nil,
                         actionTitle:String? = "Add",
                         cancelTitle:String? = "Cancel",
                         inputPlaceholder:String? = nil,
                         inputKeyboardType:UIKeyboardType = UIKeyboardType.default,
                         cancelHandler: ((UIAlertAction) -> Swift.Void)? = nil,
                         actionHandler: ((_ text: String?) -> Void)? = nil) {

        let alert = UIAlertController(title: title, message: subtitle, preferredStyle: .alert)
        alert.addTextField { (textField:UITextField) in
            textField.placeholder = inputPlaceholder
            textField.keyboardType = inputKeyboardType
        }
        alert.addAction(UIAlertAction(title: actionTitle, style: .default, handler: { (action:UIAlertAction) in
            guard let textField =  alert.textFields?.first else {
                actionHandler?(nil)
                return
            }
            actionHandler?(textField.text)
        }))
        alert.addAction(UIAlertAction(title: cancelTitle, style: .cancel, handler: cancelHandler))

        self.present(alert, animated: true, completion: nil)
    }
}

How to calculate a Mod b in Casio fx-991ES calculator

It all falls back to the definition of modulus: It is the remainder, for example, 7 mod 3 = 1. This because 7 = 3(2) + 1, in which 1 is the remainder.

To do this process on a simple calculator do the following: Take the dividend (7) and divide by the divisor (3), note the answer and discard all the decimals -> example 7/3 = 2.3333333, only worry about the 2. Now multiply this number by the divisor (3) and subtract the resulting number from the original dividend.

so 2*3 = 6, and 7 - 6 = 1, thus 1 is 7mod3

Page Redirect after X seconds wait using JavaScript

setTimeout('Redirect()', 1000);
function Redirect()
{
    window.location="https://stackoverflow.com";
}

//document.write("You will be Redirect to a new page in 1000 -> 1 Seconds, 2000 -> 2 Seconds");

Check if cookie exists else set cookie to Expire in 10 days

if (/(^|;)\s*visited=/.test(document.cookie)) {
    alert("Hello again!");
} else {
    document.cookie = "visited=true; max-age=" + 60 * 60 * 24 * 10; // 60 seconds to a minute, 60 minutes to an hour, 24 hours to a day, and 10 days.
    alert("This is your first time!");
}

is one way to do it. Note that document.cookie is a magic property, so you don't have to worry about overwriting anything, either.

There are also more convenient libraries to work with cookies, and if you don’t need the information you’re storing sent to the server on every request, HTML5’s localStorage and friends are convenient and useful.

What is the best way to return different types of ResponseEntity in Spring MVC or Spring-Boot

You can use a map with your object or string like bellow :

@RequestMapping(value = "/path",
        method = RequestMethod.GET,
        produces = MediaType.APPLICATION_JSON_VALUE)
    @ResponseBody
    public ResponseEntity<Map<String,String>> getData(){

    Map<String,String> response = new HashMap<String, String>();

    boolean isValid = // some logic
    if (isValid){
        response.put("ok", "success saving data");
        return ResponseEntity.accepted().body(response);
    }
    else{
        response.put("error", "an error expected on processing file");
        return ResponseEntity.badRequest().body(response);
    }

}

Why XML-Serializable class need a parameterless constructor

During an object's de-serialization, the class responsible for de-serializing an object creates an instance of the serialized class and then proceeds to populate the serialized fields and properties only after acquiring an instance to populate.

You can make your constructor private or internal if you want, just so long as it's parameterless.

Temporary table in SQL server causing ' There is already an object named' error

Some times you may make silly mistakes like writing insert query on the same .sql file (in the same workspace/tab) so once you execute the insert query where your create query was written just above and already executed, it will again start executing along with the insert query.

This is the reason why we are getting the object name (table name) exists already, since it's getting executed for the second time.

So go to a separate tab to write the insert or drop or whatever queries you are about to execute.

Or else use comment lines preceding all queries in the same workspace like

CREATE -- …
-- Insert query
INSERT INTO -- …

Regex to test if string begins with http:// or https://

Your use of [] is incorrect -- note that [] denotes a character class and will therefore only ever match one character. The expression [(http)(https)] translates to "match a (, an h, a t, a t, a p, a ), or an s." (Duplicate characters are ignored.)

Try this:

^https?://

If you really want to use alternation, use this syntax instead:

^(http|https)://

Set a default font for whole iOS app?

For Xamarin.iOS inside AppDelegate's FinishedLaunching() put code like this :-

UILabel.Appearance.Font= UIFont.FromName("Lato-Regular", 14);

set font for the entire application and Add 'UIAppFonts' key on Info.plist , the path should be the path where your font file .ttf is situated .For me it was inside 'fonts' folder in my project.

<key>UIAppFonts</key>
    <array>
        <string>fonts/Lato-Regular.ttf</string>
    </array>

How to lay out Views in RelativeLayout programmatically?

Just spent 4 hours with this problem. Finally realized that you must not use zero as view id. You would think that it is allowed as NO_ID == -1, but things tend to go haywire if you give it to your view...

Access localhost from the internet

Even though you didn't provide enough information to answer this question properly, your best shots are SSH tunnels (or reverse SSH tunnels).

You only need one SSH server on your internal or remote network to provide access to your local machine.

You can use PUTTY (it has a GUI) on Windows to create your tunnel.

What does the ??!??! operator do in C?

??! is a trigraph that translates to |. So it says:

!ErrorHasOccured() || HandleError();

which, due to short circuiting, is equivalent to:

if (ErrorHasOccured())
    HandleError();

Guru of the Week (deals with C++ but relevant here), where I picked this up.

Possible origin of trigraphs or as @DwB points out in the comments it's more likely due to EBCDIC being difficult (again). This discussion on the IBM developerworks board seems to support that theory.

From ISO/IEC 9899:1999 §5.2.1.1, footnote 12 (h/t @Random832):

The trigraph sequences enable the input of characters that are not defined in the Invariant Code Set as described in ISO/IEC 646, which is a subset of the seven-bit US ASCII code set.

How can I read numeric strings in Excel cells as string (not numbers)?

I would much rather go the route of the wil's answer or Vinayak Dornala, unfortunately they effected my performance far to much. I went for a HACKY solution of implicit casting:

for (Row row : sheet){
String strValue = (row.getCell(numericColumn)+""); // hack
...

I don't suggest you do this, for my situation it worked because of the nature of how the system worked and I had a reliable file source.

Footnote: numericColumn Is an int which is generated from reading the header of the file processed.

Can I change the viewport meta tag in mobile safari on the fly?

I realize this is a little old, but, yes it can be done. Some javascript to get you started:

viewport = document.querySelector("meta[name=viewport]");
viewport.setAttribute('content', 'width=device-width, initial-scale=1.0, maximum-scale=1.0, user-scalable=0');

Just change the parts you need and Mobile Safari will respect the new settings.

Update:

If you don't already have the meta viewport tag in the source, you can append it directly with something like this:

var metaTag=document.createElement('meta');
metaTag.name = "viewport"
metaTag.content = "width=device-width, initial-scale=1.0, maximum-scale=1.0, user-scalable=0"
document.getElementsByTagName('head')[0].appendChild(metaTag);

Or if you're using jQuery:

$('head').append('<meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1.0, maximum-scale=1.0, user-scalable=0">');

Convert string to decimal, keeping fractions

The use of CultureInfo class worked for me, I hope help you.

    string value = "1200.00";
    CultureInfo culture = new CultureInfo("en-US");
    decimal result = Convert.ToDecimal(value, culture);

convert float into varchar in SQL server without scientific notation

Neither str() or cast(float as nvarchar(18)) worked for me.

What did end up working was converting to an int and then converting to an nvarchar like so:

 convert(nvarchar(18),convert(bigint,float))

Laravel Password & Password_Confirmation Validation

Calling Scalar-valued Functions in SQL

Are you sure it's not a Table-Valued Function?

The reason I ask:

CREATE FUNCTION dbo.chk_mgr(@mgr VARCHAR(50))
RETURNS @mgr_table TABLE (mgr_name VARCHAR(50))
AS
BEGIN
  INSERT @mgr_table (mgr_name) VALUES ('pointy haired boss')
  RETURN
END
GO

SELECT dbo.chk_mgr('asdf')
GO

Result:

Msg 4121, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
Cannot find either column "dbo" or the user-defined function
or aggregate "dbo.chk_mgr", or the name is ambiguous.

However...

SELECT * FROM dbo.chk_mgr('asdf')

l[0][0] += 1
print l # prints "[[1], [1], [1], [1]]"

If so, you simply need to copy the objects when you store them:

import copy
l = [copy.copy(x) for x in [[0]] * 4]
l[0][0] += 1
print l # prints "[[1], [0], [0], [0]]"

The objects in question should implement a __copy__ method to copy objects. See the documentation for copy. You may also be interested in copy.deepcopy, which is there as well.

EDIT: Here's the problem:

arrayList = []
for x in allValues:
    result = model(x)
    arrayList.append(wM) # appends the wM object to the list
    wM.reset() # clears the wM object

You need to append a copy:

import copy
arrayList = []
for x in allValues:
    result = model(x)
    arrayList.append(copy.copy(wM)) # appends a copy to the list
    wM.reset() # clears the wM object

But I'm still confused as to where wM is coming from. Won't you just be copying the same wM object over and over, except clearing it after the first time so all the rest will be empty? Or does model() modify the wM (which sounds like a terrible design flaw to me)? And why are you throwing away result?

The program can’t start because MSVCR71.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this program

Agreed with jcadcell comments, but had to use JDK 1.8 because my eclipse need that. So I just copied the MSVCR71.DLL from jdk1.6 and pasted into jdk1.8 in both the folder jdk1.8.0_121\bin and jdk1.8.0_121\jre\bin

and it Worked .... Wow... Thanks :)

How to store a dataframe using Pandas

Pickle works good!

import pandas as pd
df.to_pickle('123.pkl') #to save the dataframe, df to 123.pkl
df1 = pd.read_pickle('123.pkl') #to load 123.pkl back to the dataframe df

Permission denied (publickey,gssapi-keyex,gssapi-with-mic)

You need to follow this instructions https://cloud.google.com/compute/docs/instances/connecting-to-instance#generatesshkeypair

If get "Permission denied (publickey)." with the follow command ssh -i ~/.ssh/my-ssh-key [USERNAME]@[IP_ADDRESS] you need to modify the /etc/ssh/sshd_config file and add the line AllowUsers [USERNAME]

Then restart the ssh service with

service ssh restart

if you get the message "Could not load host key: /etc/ssh/ssh_host_ed25519_key" execute: ssh-keygen -A

and finally restart the ssh service again.

service ssh restart

Loading .sql files from within PHP

None of the solutions I have seen here deal with needing to change the delimiter while creating a stored procedure on a server where I can't count on having access to LOAD DATA INFILE. I was hoping to find that someone had already solved this without having to scour the phpMyAdmin code to figure it out. Like others, I too was in the process of looking for someone else's GPL'ed way of doing it since I am writing GPL code myself.

How to terminate a process in vbscript

Just type in the following command: taskkill /f /im (program name) To find out the im of your program open task manager and look at the process while your program is running. After the program has run a process will disappear from the task manager; that is your program.

error: This is probably not a problem with npm. There is likely additional logging output above

Finally, I found a solution to this problem without reinstalling npm and I'm posting it because in future it will help someone, Most of the time this error occurs javascript heap went out of the memory. As the error says itself this is not a problem with npm. Only we have to do is

instead of,

npm  run build -prod

extend the javascript memory by following,

node --max_old_space_size=4096 node_modules/@angular/cli/bin/ng build --prod

How to select first and last TD in a row?

If the row contains some leading (or trailing) th tags before the td you should use the :first-of-type and the :last-of-type selectors. Otherwise the first td won't be selected if it's not the first element of the row.

This gives:

td:first-of-type, td:last-of-type {
    /* styles */
}

Merge two objects with ES6

You can use Object.assign() to merge them into a new object:

_x000D_
_x000D_
const response = {_x000D_
  lat: -51.3303,_x000D_
  lng: 0.39440_x000D_
}_x000D_
_x000D_
const item = {_x000D_
  id: 'qwenhee-9763ae-lenfya',_x000D_
  address: '14-22 Elder St, London, E1 6BT, UK'_x000D_
}_x000D_
_x000D_
const newItem = Object.assign({}, item, { location: response });_x000D_
_x000D_
console.log(newItem );
_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_

You can also use object spread, which is a Stage 4 proposal for ECMAScript:

_x000D_
_x000D_
const response = {_x000D_
  lat: -51.3303,_x000D_
  lng: 0.39440_x000D_
}_x000D_
_x000D_
const item = {_x000D_
  id: 'qwenhee-9763ae-lenfya',_x000D_
  address: '14-22 Elder St, London, E1 6BT, UK'_x000D_
}_x000D_
_x000D_
const newItem = { ...item, location: response }; // or { ...response } if you want to clone response as well_x000D_
_x000D_
console.log(newItem );
_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_

Check if object value exists within a Javascript array of objects and if not add a new object to array

Here is an ES6 method chain using .map() and .includes():

const arr = [ { id: 1, username: 'fred' }, { id: 2, username: 'bill' }, { id: 2, username: 'ted' } ]

const checkForUser = (newUsername) => {
      arr.map(user => {
        return user.username
      }).includes(newUsername)
    }

if (!checkForUser('fred')){
  // add fred
}
  1. Map over existing users to create array of username strings.
  2. Check if that array of usernames includes the new username
  3. If it's not present, add the new user

How to get a random number between a float range?

random.uniform(a, b) appears to be what your looking for. From the docs:

Return a random floating point number N such that a <= N <= b for a <= b and b <= N <= a for b < a.

How to convert SSH keypairs generated using PuTTYgen (Windows) into key-pairs used by ssh-agent and Keychain (Linux)

puttygen supports exporting your private key to an OpenSSH compatible format. You can then use OpenSSH tools to recreate the public key.

  1. Open PuttyGen
  2. Click Load
  3. Load your private key
  4. Go to Conversions->Export OpenSSH and export your private key
  5. Copy your private key to ~/.ssh/id_dsa (or id_rsa).
  6. Create the RFC 4716 version of the public key using ssh-keygen

    ssh-keygen -e -f ~/.ssh/id_dsa > ~/.ssh/id_dsa_com.pub

  7. Convert the RFC 4716 version of the public key to the OpenSSH format:

    ssh-keygen -i -f ~/.ssh/id_dsa_com.pub > ~/.ssh/id_dsa.pub

See this and this for more information.

Check if a string is a palindrome

 public static bool IsPalindrome(string value)

            int i = 0;
            int j = value.Length - 1;
            while (true)
            {
                if (i > j)
                {
                    return true;
                }
                char a = value[i];
                char b = value[j];
                if (char.ToLower(a) != char.ToLower(b))
                {
                    return false;
                }
                i++;
                j--;
            }
        }

std::wstring VS std::string

  1. when you want to use Unicode strings and not just ascii, helpful for internationalisation
  2. yes, but it doesn't play well with 0
  3. not aware of any that don't
  4. wide character is the compiler specific way of handling the fixed length representation of a unicode character, for MSVC it is a 2 byte character, for gcc I understand it is 4 bytes. and a +1 for http://www.joelonsoftware.com/articles/Unicode.html

Deserialize JSON to Array or List with HTTPClient .ReadAsAsync using .NET 4.0 Task pattern

Instead of handcranking your models try using something like the Json2csharp.com website. Paste In an example JSON response, the fuller the better and then pull in the resultant generated classes. This, at least, takes away some moving parts, will get you the shape of the JSON in csharp giving the serialiser an easier time and you shouldnt have to add attributes.

Just get it working and then make amendments to your class names, to conform to your naming conventions, and add in attributes later.

EDIT: Ok after a little messing around I have successfully deserialised the result into a List of Job (I used Json2csharp.com to create the class for me)

public class Job
{
        public string id { get; set; }
        public string position_title { get; set; }
        public string organization_name { get; set; }
        public string rate_interval_code { get; set; }
        public int minimum { get; set; }
        public int maximum { get; set; }
        public string start_date { get; set; }
        public string end_date { get; set; }
        public List<string> locations { get; set; }
        public string url { get; set; }
}

And an edit to your code:

        List<Job> model = null;
        var client = new HttpClient();
        var task = client.GetAsync("http://api.usa.gov/jobs/search.json?query=nursing+jobs")
          .ContinueWith((taskwithresponse) =>
          {
              var response = taskwithresponse.Result;
              var jsonString = response.Content.ReadAsStringAsync();
              jsonString.Wait();
              model = JsonConvert.DeserializeObject<List<Job>>(jsonString.Result);

          });
        task.Wait();

This means you can get rid of your containing object. Its worth noting that this isn't a Task related issue but rather a deserialisation issue.

EDIT 2:

There is a way to take a JSON object and generate classes in Visual Studio. Simply copy the JSON of choice and then Edit> Paste Special > Paste JSON as Classes. A whole page is devoted to this here:

http://blog.codeinside.eu/2014/09/08/Visual-Studio-2013-Paste-Special-JSON-And-Xml/

How does Java import work?

javac (or java during runtime) looks for the classes being imported in the classpath. If they are not there in the classpath then classnotfound exceptions are thrown.

classpath is just like the path variable in a shell, which is used by the shell to find a command or executable.

Entire directories or individual jar files can be put in the classpath. Also, yes a classpath can perhaps include a path which is not local but is somewhere on the internet. Please read more about classpath to resolve your doubts.

FirstOrDefault: Default value other than null

Instead of YourCollection.FirstOrDefault(), you could use YourCollection.DefaultIfEmpty(YourDefault).First() for example.

How to call a VbScript from a Batch File without opening an additional command prompt

rem This is the command line version
cscript "C:\Users\guest\Desktop\123\MyScript.vbs"

OR

rem This is the windowed version
wscript "C:\Users\guest\Desktop\123\MyScript.vbs"

You can also add the option //e:vbscript to make sure the scripting engine will recognize your script as a vbscript.

Windows/DOS batch files doesn't require escaping \ like *nix.

You can still use "C:\Users\guest\Desktop\123\MyScript.vbs", but this requires the user has *.vbs associated to wscript.

What __init__ and self do in Python?

In this code:

class A(object):
    def __init__(self):
        self.x = 'Hello'

    def method_a(self, foo):
        print self.x + ' ' + foo

... the self variable represents the instance of the object itself. Most object-oriented languages pass this as a hidden parameter to the methods defined on an object; Python does not. You have to declare it explicitly. When you create an instance of the A class and call its methods, it will be passed automatically, as in ...

a = A() # We do not pass any argument to the __init__ method
a.method_a('Sailor!') # We only pass a single argument

The __init__ method is roughly what represents a constructor in Python. When you call A() Python creates an object for you, and passes it as the first parameter to the __init__ method. Any additional parameters (e.g., A(24, 'Hello')) will also get passed as arguments--in this case causing an exception to be raised, since the constructor isn't expecting them.

How do getters and setters work?

class Clock {
        String time;

        void setTime (String t) {
           time = t;
        }

        String getTime() {
           return time;
        }
}

class ClockTestDrive {
   public static void main (String [] args) {
   Clock c = new Clock;

   c.setTime("12345")
   String tod = c.getTime();
   System.out.println(time: " + tod);
 }
}

When you run the program, program starts in mains,

  1. object c is created
  2. function setTime() is called by the object c
  3. the variable time is set to the value passed by
  4. function getTime() is called by object c
  5. the time is returned
  6. It will passe to tod and tod get printed out

Name does not exist in the current context

I came across a similar problem with a meta tag. In the designer.cs, the control was defined as:

protected global::System.Web.UI.HtmlControl.HtmlGenericControl metatag;

I had to move the definition to the .aspx.cs file and define as:

protected global::System.Web.UI.HtmlControl.HtmlMeta metatag;

How to start activity in another application?

If both application have the same signature (meaning that both APPS are yours and signed with the same key), you can call your other app activity as follows:

Intent LaunchIntent = getActivity().getPackageManager().getLaunchIntentForPackage(CALC_PACKAGE_NAME);
startActivity(LaunchIntent);

Hope it helps.

How can I find the OWNER of an object in Oracle?

Interesting question - I don't think there's any Oracle function that does this (almost like a "which" command in Unix), but you can get the resolution order for the name by:

select * from
(
 select object_name objname, object_type, 'my object' details, 1 resolveOrder
  from user_objects
  where object_type not like 'SYNONYM'
 union all
 select synonym_name obj , 'my synonym', table_owner||'.'||table_name, 2 resolveOrder
  from user_synonyms
 union all
 select  synonym_name obj , 'public synonym', table_owner||'.'||table_name, 3 resolveOrder
  from all_synonyms where owner = 'PUBLIC'
)
where objname like upper('&objOfInterest')

Allow docker container to connect to a local/host postgres database

Simple Solution for mac:

The newest version of docker (18.03) offers a built in port forwarding solution. Inside your docker container simply have the db host set to host.docker.internal. This will be forwarded to the host the docker container is running on.

Documentation for this is here: https://docs.docker.com/docker-for-mac/networking/#i-want-to-connect-from-a-container-to-a-service-on-the-host

Can gcc output C code after preprocessing?

Yes. Pass gcc the -E option. This will output preprocessed source code.

Permission is only granted to system app

Does Python have an argc argument?

You're better off looking at argparse for argument parsing.

Just makes it easy, no need to do the heavy lifting yourself.

CodeIgniter: Load controller within controller

Based on @Joaquin Astelarra response, I have managed to write this little helper named load_controller_helper.php:

<?php  if ( ! defined('BASEPATH')) exit('No direct script access allowed');

if (!function_exists('load_controller'))
{
    function load_controller($controller, $method = 'index')
    {
        require_once(FCPATH . APPPATH . 'controllers/' . $controller . '.php');

        $controller = new $controller();

        return $controller->$method();
    }
}

You can use/call it like this:

$this->load->helper('load_controller');
load_controller('homepage', 'not_found');

Note: The second argument is not mandatory, as it will run the method named index, like CodeIgniter would.

Now you will be able to load a controller inside another controller without using HMVC.

Later Edit: Be aware that this method might have unexpected results. Always test it!

Python element-wise tuple operations like sum

Yes. But you can't redefine built-in types. You have to subclass them:

class MyTuple(tuple):
    def __add__(self, other):
         if len(self) != len(other):
             raise ValueError("tuple lengths don't match")
         return MyTuple(x + y for (x, y) in zip(self, other))

EF Code First "Invalid column name 'Discriminator'" but no inheritance

I just encountered this and my problem was caused by having two entities both with the System.ComponentModel.DataAnnotations.Schema.TableAttribute referring to the same table.

for example:

[Table("foo")]
public class foo
{
    // some stuff here
}

[Table("foo")]
public class fooExtended
{
    // more stuff here
}

changing the second one from foo to foo_extended fixed this for me and I'm now using Table Per Type (TPT)

How to get the path of a running JAR file?

I have another way to get the String location of a class.

URL path = Thread.currentThread().getContextClassLoader().getResource("");
Path p = Paths.get(path.toURI());
String location = p.toString();

The output String will have the form of

C:\Users\Administrator\new Workspace\...

The spaces and other characters are handled, and in the form without file:/. So will be easier to use.

How do I import a namespace in Razor View Page?

In ASP.NET MVC 3 Preview1 you can import a namespace on all your razor views with this code in Global.asax.cs

Microsoft.WebPages.Compilation.CodeGeneratorSettings.AddGlobalImport("Namespace.Namespace");

I hope in RTM this gets done through Web.config section.

Find html label associated with a given input

As it has been already mentionned, the (currently) top-rated answer does not take into account the possibility to embed an input inside a label.

Since nobody has posted a JQuery-free answer, here is mine :

var labels = form.getElementsByTagName ('label');
var input_label = {};
for (var i = 0 ; i != labels.length ; i++)
{
    var label = labels[i];
    var input = label.htmlFor
              ? document.getElementById(label.htmlFor)
              : label.getElementsByTagName('input')[0];
    input_label[input.outerHTML] =
        (label.innerText || label.textContent); // innerText for IE8-
}

In this example, for the sake of simplicity, the lookup table is directly indexed by the input HTML elements. This is hardly efficient and you can adapt it however you like.

You can use a form as base element, or the whole document if you want to get labels for multiple forms at once.

No checks are made for incorrect HTML (multiple or missing inputs inside labels, missing input with corresponding htmlFor id, etc), but feel free to add them.

You might want to trim the label texts, since trailing spaces are often present when the input is embedded in the label.

Nested Git repositories?

Just for completeness:

There is another solution, I would recommend: subtree merging.

In contrast to submodules, it's easier to maintain. You would create each repository the normal way. While in your main repository, you want to merge the master (or any other branch) of another repository in a directory of your main directory.

$ git remote add -f OtherRepository /path/to/that/repo
$ git merge -s ours --no-commit OtherRepository/master
$ git read-tree --prefix=AnyDirectoryToPutItIn/ -u OtherRepository/master
$ git commit -m "Merge OtherRepository project as our subdirectory"`

Then, in order to pull the other repository into your directory (to update it), use the subtree merge strategy:

$ git pull -s subtree OtherRepository master

I'm using this method for years now, it works :-)

More about this way including comparing it with sub modules may be found in this git howto doc.

HTTPS connection Python

If using httplib.HTTPSConnection:

Please take a look at:

Changed in version 2.7.9:

This class now performs all the necessary certificate and hostname checks by default. To revert to the previous, unverified, behavior ssl._create_unverified_context() can be passed to the context parameter. You can use:

if hasattr(ssl, '_create_unverified_context'):
  ssl._create_default_https_context = ssl._create_unverified_context

jQuery .slideRight effect

If you're willing to include the jQuery UI library, in addition to jQuery itself, then you can simply use hide(), with additional arguments, as follows:

$(document).ready(
    function(){
        $('#slider').click(
            function(){
                $(this).hide('slide',{direction:'right'},1000);

            });
    });

JS Fiddle demo.

Without using jQuery UI, you could achieve your aim just using animate():

$(document).ready(
    function(){
        $('#slider').click(
            function(){
                $(this)
                    .animate(
                        {
                            'margin-left':'1000px'
                            // to move it towards the right and, probably, off-screen.
                        },1000,
                        function(){
                            $(this).slideUp('fast');
                            // once it's finished moving to the right, just
                            // removes the the element from the display, you could use
                            // `remove()` instead, or whatever.
                        }
                        );

            });
    });

If you do choose to use jQuery UI, then I'd recommend linking to the Google-hosted code, at: https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jqueryui/1.8.6/jquery-ui.min.js

how to mysqldump remote db from local machine

One can invoke mysqldump locally against a remote server.

Example that worked for me:

mysqldump -h hostname-of-the-server -u mysql_user -p database_name > file.sql

I followed the mysqldump documentation on connection options.

How to store command results in a shell variable?

The syntax to store the command output into a variable is var=$(command).

So you can directly do:

result=$(ls -l | grep -c "rahul.*patle")

And the variable $result will contain the number of matches.

Fixed size div?

As reply to Jonathan Sampson, this is the best way to do it, without a clearing div:

.container { width:450px; overflow:hidden }
.cube { width:150px; height:150px; float:left }

<div class="container">
    <div class="cube"></div>
    <div class="cube"></div>
    <div class="cube"></div>
    <div class="cube"></div>
    <div class="cube"></div>
    <div class="cube"></div>
    <div class="cube"></div>
    <div class="cube"></div>
    <div class="cube"></div>

Squash my last X commits together using Git

You can do this fairly easily without git rebase or git merge --squash. In this example, we'll squash the last 3 commits.

If you want to write the new commit message from scratch, this suffices:

git reset --soft HEAD~3 &&
git commit

If you want to start editing the new commit message with a concatenation of the existing commit messages (i.e. similar to what a pick/squash/squash/…/squash git rebase -i instruction list would start you with), then you need to extract those messages and pass them to git commit:

git reset --soft HEAD~3 &&
git commit --edit -m"$(git log --format=%B --reverse HEAD..HEAD@{1})"

Both of those methods squash the last three commits into a single new commit in the same way. The soft reset just re-points HEAD to the last commit that you do not want to squash. Neither the index nor the working tree are touched by the soft reset, leaving the index in the desired state for your new commit (i.e. it already has all the changes from the commits that you are about to “throw away”).

Why number 9 in kill -9 command in unix?

I don't think there is any significance to number 9. In addition, despite common believe, kill is used not only to kill processes but also send a signal to a process. If you are really curious you can read here and here.

Cannot kill Python script with Ctrl-C

An improved version of @Thomas K's answer:

  • Defining an assistant function is_any_thread_alive() according to this gist, which can terminates the main() automatically.

Example codes:

import threading

def job1():
    ...

def job2():
    ...

def is_any_thread_alive(threads):
    return True in [t.is_alive() for t in threads]

if __name__ == "__main__":
    ...
    t1 = threading.Thread(target=job1,daemon=True)
    t2 = threading.Thread(target=job2,daemon=True)
    t1.start()
    t2.start()

    while is_any_thread_alive([t1,t2]):
        time.sleep(0)

How do I get java logging output to appear on a single line?

I've figured out a way that works. You can subclass SimpleFormatter and override the format method

    public String format(LogRecord record) {
        return new java.util.Date() + " " + record.getLevel() + " " + record.getMessage() + "\r\n";
    }

A bit surprised at this API I would have thought that more functionality/flexibility would have been provided out of the box

How do I get the unix timestamp in C as an int?

An important point is to consider if you perform tasks based on difference between 2 timestamps because you will get odd behavior if you generate it with gettimeofday(), and even clock_gettime(CLOCK_REALTIME,..) at the moment where you will set the time of your system.

To prevent such problem, use clock_gettime(CLOCK_MONOTONIC_RAW, &tms) instead.

Logcat not displaying my log calls

There are a number of reasons why you might not see logs, most of which are listed below. Here are some steps to check most reasons:

  1. Make sure you don't have 'android:debuggable="false"' in your AndroidManifest.xml
  2. Make sure your logcat isn't paused and make sure you are scrolled to the bottom
  3. Your filters should either be 'no filters' or your current app
  4. You have the correct device selected in your logcat devices list
  5. If you're not getting any messages, try restarting adb. You can do that from Android Studio by clicking on the 'restart' icon, it's right after the print icon for logcat and it looks like a green curved arrow coming out of a box. If you don't see it, mouse over the '>>' that continues the icon menu when the logcat is too small.

java : non-static variable cannot be referenced from a static context Error

Your main() method is static, but it is referencing two non-static members: con2 and getConnectionUrl2(). You need to do one of three things:

1) Make con2 and getConnectionUrl2() static.

2) Inside main(), create an instance of class testconnect and access con2 and getConnectionUrl2() off of that.

3) Break out a different class to hold con2 and getConnectionUrl2() so that testconnect only has main in it. It will still need to instantiate the different class and call the methods off that.

Option #3 is the best option. #1 is the worst.

But, you cannot access non-static members from within a static method.

creating charts with angularjs

To collect more useful resources here:

As mentioned before D3.js is definitely the best visualization library for charts. To use it in AngularJS I developed angular-chart. It is an easy to use directive which connects D3.js with the AngularJS 2-Way-DataBinding. This way the chart gets automatically updated whenever you change the configuration options and at the same time the charts saves its state (zoom level, ...) to make it available in the AngularJS world.

Check out the examples to get convinced.

<SELECT multiple> - how to allow only one item selected?

I had some dealings with the select \ multi-select this is what did the trick for me

<select name="mySelect" multiple="multiple">
    <option>Foo</option>
    <option>Bar</option>
    <option>Foo Bar</option>
    <option>Bar Foo</option>
</select>

Quick-and-dirty way to ensure only one instance of a shell script is running at a time

Try something like the below,

ab=`ps -ef | grep -v grep | grep -wc processname`

Then match the variable with 1 using an if loop.

Is the size of C "int" 2 bytes or 4 bytes?

I know it's equal to sizeof(int). The size of an int is really compiler dependent. Back in the day, when processors were 16 bit, an int was 2 bytes. Nowadays, it's most often 4 bytes on a 32-bit as well as 64-bit systems.

Still, using sizeof(int) is the best way to get the size of an integer for the specific system the program is executed on.

EDIT: Fixed wrong statement that int is 8 bytes on most 64-bit systems. For example, it is 4 bytes on 64-bit GCC.

Convert string (without any separator) to list

A python string is a list of characters. You can iterate over it right now!

justdigits = ""
for char in string:
    if char.isdigit():
        justdigits += str(char)

Android Studio gradle takes too long to build

In the beta version of Android studio 2.0, they've rolled out a feature called Instant Run. It reduces the build time by a big factor. The core concept is, Android Studio only pushes the small changes made into an already running app.

It classifies the changes we make in our code to three parts: hot swap, warm swap and cold swap, based on how much load would the change would put on the build. After that, it simply swaps the code in the already running app and we get could see the changes running a few seconds. See their doc for more information.

Here you can download Android Studio 2.0 preview.

PS: There are a few issues with this feature. They've listed it out at the docs. Check it out before installation.

How to disable gradle 'offline mode' in android studio?

Edit. As noted in the comments, this is no longer working with the latest Android Studio releases.

The latest Android studio seems to only reference to "Offline mode" via the keymap, but toggling this does not seem to change anything anymore.

In Android Studio open the settings and search for offline it will find the Gradle category which contains Offline work. You can disable it there.

Adding a Button to a WPF DataGrid

First create a DataGridTemplateColumn to contain the button:

<DataGridTemplateColumn>
  <DataGridTemplateColumn.CellTemplate>
    <DataTemplate>
      <Button Click="ShowHideDetails">Details</Button>
    </DataTemplate>
  </DataGridTemplateColumn.CellTemplate>
</DataGridTemplateColumn>

When the button is clicked, update the containing DataGridRow's DetailsVisibility:

void ShowHideDetails(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e)
{
    for (var vis = sender as Visual; vis != null; vis = VisualTreeHelper.GetParent(vis) as Visual)
    if (vis is DataGridRow)
    {
        var row = (DataGridRow)vis;
        row.DetailsVisibility =
        row.DetailsVisibility == Visibility.Visible ? Visibility.Collapsed : Visibility.Visible;
        break;
    }
}

What are the differences and similarities between ffmpeg, libav, and avconv?

Confusing messages

These messages are rather misleading and understandably a source of confusion. Older Ubuntu versions used Libav which is a fork of the FFmpeg project. FFmpeg returned in Ubuntu 15.04 "Vivid Vervet".

The fork was basically a non-amicable result of conflicting personalities and development styles within the FFmpeg community. It is worth noting that the maintainer for Debian/Ubuntu switched from FFmpeg to Libav on his own accord due to being involved with the Libav fork.

The real ffmpeg vs the fake one

For a while both Libav and FFmpeg separately developed their own version of ffmpeg.

Libav then renamed their bizarro ffmpeg to avconv to distance themselves from the FFmpeg project. During the transition period the "not developed anymore" message was displayed to tell users to start using avconv instead of their counterfeit version of ffmpeg. This confused users into thinking that FFmpeg (the project) is dead, which is not true. A bad choice of words, but I can't imagine Libav not expecting such a response by general users.

This message was removed upstream when the fake "ffmpeg" was finally removed from the Libav source, but, depending on your version, it can still show up in Ubuntu because the Libav source Ubuntu uses is from the ffmpeg-to-avconv transition period.

In June 2012, the message was re-worded for the package libav - 4:0.8.3-0ubuntu0.12.04.1. Unfortunately the new "deprecated" message has caused additional user confusion.

Starting with Ubuntu 15.04 "Vivid Vervet", FFmpeg's ffmpeg is back in the repositories again.

libav vs Libav

To further complicate matters, Libav chose a name that was historically used by FFmpeg to refer to its libraries (libavcodec, libavformat, etc). For example the libav-user mailing list, for questions and discussions about using the FFmpeg libraries, is unrelated to the Libav project.

How to tell the difference

If you are using avconv then you are using Libav. If you are using ffmpeg you could be using FFmpeg or Libav. Refer to the first line in the console output to tell the difference: the copyright notice will either mention FFmpeg or Libav.

Secondly, the version numbering schemes differ. Each of the FFmpeg or Libav libraries contains a version.h header which shows a version number. FFmpeg will end in three digits, such as 57.67.100, and Libav will end in one digit such as 57.67.0. You can also view the library version numbers by running ffmpeg or avconv and viewing the console output.

If you want to use the real ffmpeg

Ubuntu 15.04 "Vivid Vervet" or newer

The real ffmpeg is in the repository, so you can install it with:

apt-get install ffmpeg

For older Ubuntu versions

Your options are:

These methods are non-intrusive, reversible, and will not interfere with the system or any repository packages.

Another possible option is to upgrade to Ubuntu 15.04 "Vivid Vervet" or newer and just use ffmpeg from the repository.

Maven: how to override the dependency added by a library

What you put inside the </dependencies> tag of the root pom will be included by all child modules of the root pom. If all your modules use that dependency, this is the way to go.

However, if only 3 out of 10 of your child modules use some dependency, you do not want this dependency to be included in all your child modules. In that case, you can just put the dependency inside the </dependencyManagement>. This will make sure that any child module that needs the dependency must declare it in their own pom file, but they will use the same version of that dependency as specified in your </dependencyManagement> tag.

You can also use the </dependencyManagement> to modify the version used in transitive dependencies, because the version declared in the upper most pom file is the one that will be used. This can be useful if your project A includes an external project B v1.0 that includes another external project C v1.0. Sometimes it happens that a security breach is found in project C v1.0 which is corrected in v1.1, but the developers of B are slow to update their project to use v1.1 of C. In that case, you can simply declare a dependency on C v1.1 in your project's root pom inside `, and everything will be good (assuming that B v1.0 will still be able to compile with C v1.1).

Global Variable in app.js accessible in routes?

A neat way to do this is to use app.locals provided by Express itself. Here is the documentation.

// In app.js:
app.locals.variable_you_need = 42;

// In index.js
exports.route = function(req, res){
    var variable_i_needed = req.app.locals.variable_you_need;
}

git - Server host key not cached

Adding the host directly with Bash didn't solve the issue, the error still occurred when using 'Fetch all' in Git Extensions. By using 'Pull' on one branch, the required host was added automatically by Git Extensions with a Bash pop-up screen. After doing this I was able to use 'Fetch All' again. Not sure what is done by Git Extensions differently.

How to disable phone number linking in Mobile Safari?

I too have this problem: Safari and other mobile browsers transform the VAT IDs into phone numbers. So I want a clean method to avoid it on a single element, not the whole page (or site).
I'm sharing a possible solution I found, it is suboptimal but still it is pretty viable: I put, inside the number I don't want to become a tel: link, the &#8288; HTML entity which is the Word-Joiner invisible character. I tried to stay more semantic (well, at least a sort of) by putting this char in some meaning spot, e.g. for the VAT ID I chose to put it between the different groups of digit according to its format so for an Italian VAT I wrote: 0613605&#8288;048&#8288;8 which renders in 06136050488 and it is not transformed in a telephone number.

org.hibernate.PersistentObjectException: detached entity passed to persist

You didn't provide many relevant details so I will guess that you called getInvoice and then you used result object to set some values and call save with assumption that your object changes will be saved.

However, persist operation is intended for brand new transient objects and it fails if id is already assigned. In your case you probably want to call saveOrUpdate instead of persist.

You can find some discussion and references here "detached entity passed to persist error" with JPA/EJB code

How to prevent gcc optimizing some statements in C?

Turning off optimization fixes the problem, but it is unnecessary. A safer alternative is to make it illegal for the compiler to optimize out the store by using the volatile type qualifier.

// Assuming pageptr is unsigned char * already...
unsigned char *pageptr = ...;
((unsigned char volatile *)pageptr)[0] = pageptr[0];

The volatile type qualifier instructs the compiler to be strict about memory stores and loads. One purpose of volatile is to let the compiler know that the memory access has side effects, and therefore must be preserved. In this case, the store has the side effect of causing a page fault, and you want the compiler to preserve the page fault.

This way, the surrounding code can still be optimized, and your code is portable to other compilers which don't understand GCC's #pragma or __attribute__ syntax.

SQL grouping by month and year

If I understand correctly. In order to group your results as requested, your Group By clause needs to have the same expression as your select statement.

GROUP BY MONTH(date) + '.' + YEAR(date)

To display the date as "month-date" format change the '.' to '-' The full syntax would be something like this.

SELECT MONTH(date) + '-' + YEAR(date) AS Mjesec, SUM(marketingExpense) AS
SumaMarketing, SUM(revenue) AS SumaZarada
FROM [Order]
WHERE (idCustomer = 1) AND (date BETWEEN '2001-11-3' AND '2011-11-3')
GROUP BY MONTH(date) + '.' + YEAR(date)

Selenium Webdriver move mouse to Point

If you are using a RemoteWebDriver, you can cast WebElement into RemoteWebElement. You can then call getCoordinates() on that object to get the coordinates.

        WebElement el = driver.findElementById("elementId");
        Coordinates c = ((RemoteWebElement)el).getCoordinates();
        driver.getMouse().mouseMove(c);

How to "wait" a Thread in Android

Don't use wait(), use either android.os.SystemClock.sleep(1000); or Thread.sleep(1000);.

The main difference between them is that Thread.sleep() can be interrupted early -- you'll be told, but it's still not the full second. The android.os call will not wake early.

dictionary update sequence element #0 has length 3; 2 is required

This error raised up because you trying to update dict object by using a wrong sequence (list or tuple) structure.

cash_id.create(cr, uid, lines,context=None) trying to convert lines into dict object:

(0, 0, {
    'name': l.name,
    'date': l.date,

})

Remove the second zero from this tuple to properly convert it into a dict object.

To test it your self, try this into python shell:

decompiling DEX into Java sourcecode

Recent Debian have Python package androguard:

Description-en: full Python tool to play with Android files
 Androguard is a full Python tool to play with Android files.
  * DEX, ODEX
  * APK
  * Android's binary xml
  * Android resources
  * Disassemble DEX/ODEX bytecodes
  * Decompiler for DEX/ODEX files

Install corresponding packages:

sudo apt-get install androguard python-networkx

Decompile DEX file:

$ androdd -i classes.dex -o ./dir-for-output

Extract classes.dex from Apk + Decompile:

$ androdd -i app.apk -o ./dir-for-output

Apk file is nothing more that Java archive (JAR), you may extract files from archive via:

$ unzip app.apk -d ./dir-for-output

R: numeric 'envir' arg not of length one in predict()

There are several problems here:

  1. The newdata argument of predict() needs a predictor variable. You should thus pass it values for Coupon, instead of Total, which is the response variable in your model.

  2. The predictor variable needs to be passed in as a named column in a data frame, so that predict() knows what the numbers its been handed represent. (The need for this becomes clear when you consider more complicated models, having more than one predictor variable).

  3. For this to work, your original call should pass df in through the data argument, rather than using it directly in your formula. (This way, the name of the column in newdata will be able to match the name on the RHS of the formula).

With those changes incorporated, this will work:

model <- lm(Total ~ Coupon, data=df)
new <- data.frame(Coupon = df$Coupon)
predict(model, newdata = new, interval="confidence")

Fixed page header overlaps in-page anchors

While some of the proposed solutions work for fragment links (= hash links) within the same page (like a menu link that scrolls down), I found that none of them worked in current Chrome when you want to use fragment links coming in from other pages.

So calling www.mydomain.com/page.html#foo from scratch will NOT offset your target in current Chrome with any of the given CSS solutions or JS solutions.

There is also a jQuery bug report describing some details of the problem.

SOLUTION

The only option I found so far that really works in Chrome is JavaScript that is not called onDomReady but with a delay.

// set timeout onDomReady
$(function() {
    setTimeout(delayedFragmentTargetOffset, 500);
});

// add scroll offset to fragment target (if there is one)
function delayedFragmentTargetOffset(){
    var offset = $(':target').offset();
    if(offset){
        var scrollto = offset.top - 95; // minus fixed header height
        $('html, body').animate({scrollTop:scrollto}, 0);
    }
}

SUMMARY

Without a JS delay solutions will probably work in Firefox, IE, Safari, but not in Chrome.

Why can't I define a static method in a Java interface?

This was already asked and answered, here

To duplicate my answer:

There is never a point to declaring a static method in an interface. They cannot be executed by the normal call MyInterface.staticMethod(). If you call them by specifying the implementing class MyImplementor.staticMethod() then you must know the actual class, so it is irrelevant whether the interface contains it or not.

More importantly, static methods are never overridden, and if you try to do:

MyInterface var = new MyImplementingClass();
var.staticMethod();

the rules for static say that the method defined in the declared type of var must be executed. Since this is an interface, this is impossible.

The reason you can't execute "result=MyInterface.staticMethod()" is that it would have to execute the version of the method defined in MyInterface. But there can't be a version defined in MyInterface, because it's an interface. It doesn't have code by definition.

While you can say that this amounts to "because Java does it that way", in reality the decision is a logical consequence of other design decisions, also made for very good reason.

How to extract numbers from a string and get an array of ints?

If you want to exclude numbers that are contained within words, such as bar1 or aa1bb, then add word boundaries \b to any of the regex based answers. For example:

Pattern p = Pattern.compile("\\b-?\\d+\\b");
Matcher m = p.matcher("9There 9are more9 th9an -2 and less than 12 numbers here9");
while (m.find()) {
  System.out.println(m.group());
}

displays:

XML Parser for C

Could you give some indication of what platforms you are writing for? This should weigh heavily on what is 'best'. You might find a super 'xml-foo' library that does not ship commonly on most systems by default .. while its great, the lack of the library might prevent (or at least) annoy users.

Mostly, I use libxml2 .. because its standard or easy to install on the platforms that I target.

As you see, 'best' is also determined by the library being available on your target platforms.

You can have a counter (freePosition), which will track the next free place in an array of size n.

Saving images in Python at a very high quality

Just to add my results, also using Matplotlib.

.eps made all my text bold and removed transparency. .svg gave me high-resolution pictures that actually looked like my graph.

import matplotlib.pyplot as plt
fig, ax = plt.subplots()
# Do the plot code
fig.savefig('myimage.svg', format='svg', dpi=1200)

I used 1200 dpi because a lot of scientific journals require images in 1200 / 600 / 300 dpi, depending on what the image is of. Convert to desired dpi and format in GIMP or Inkscape.

Obviously the dpi doesn't matter since .svg are vector graphics and have "infinite resolution".

3) Now, to identify the device to be tested on , add the device id on apple account and refresh your development certificate. Download the updated certificate and upload it on testflight website. Check the device id you are getting.

4) Now email the ipa file to the testers.

5) While downloading the ipa file, if the testers are not getting any warnings, this means the device token + provisioning profile has been verified. So, the testers can now download the ipa file on device and do the testing job...

How to check if a user likes my Facebook Page or URL using Facebook's API

You can use (PHP)

$isFan = file_get_contents("https://api.facebook.com/method/pages.isFan?format=json&access_token=" . USER_TOKEN . "&page_id=" . FB_FANPAGE_ID);

That will return one of three:

  • string true string false json
  • formatted response of error if token
  • or page_id are not valid

I guess the only not-using-token way to achieve this is with the signed_request Jason Siffring just posted. My helper using PHP SDK:

function isFan(){
    global $facebook;
    $request = $facebook->getSignedRequest();
    return $request['page']['liked'];
}

How can I create an object based on an interface file definition in TypeScript?

I think you have basically five different options to do so. Choosing among them could be easy depending on the goal you would like to achieve.

The best way in most of the cases to use a class and instantiate it, because you are using TypeScript to apply type checking.

interface IModal {
    content: string;
    form: string;
    //...

    //Extra
    foo: (bar: string): void;
}

class Modal implements IModal {
    content: string;
    form: string;

    foo(param: string): void {
    }
}

Even if other methods are offering easier ways to create an object from an interface you should consider splitting your interface apart, if you are using your object for different matters, and it does not cause interface over-segregation:

interface IBehaviour {
    //Extra
    foo(param: string): void;
}

interface IModal extends IBehaviour{
    content: string;
    form: string;
    //...
}

On the other hand, for example during unit testing your code (if you may not applying separation of concerns frequently), you may be able to accept the drawbacks for the sake of productivity. You may apply other methods to create mocks mostly for big third party *.d.ts interfaces. And it could be a pain to always implement full anonymous objects for every huge interface.

On this path your first option is to create an empty object:

 var modal = <IModal>{};

Secondly to fully realise the compulsory part of your interface. It can be useful whether you are calling 3rd party JavaScript libraries, but I think you should create a class instead, like before:

var modal: IModal = {
    content: '',
    form: '',
    //...

    foo: (param: string): void => {
    }
};

Thirdly you can create just a part of your interface and create an anonymous object, but this way you are responsible to fulfil the contract

var modal: IModal = <any>{
    foo: (param: string): void => {

    }
};

Summarising my answer even if interfaces are optional, because they are not transpiled into JavaScript code, TypeScript is there to provide a new level of abstraction, if used wisely and consistently. I think, just because you can dismiss them in most of the cases from your own code you shouldn't.

Get started with Latex on Linux

It depends on your Linux distibution and your preference of editors etc. but I would recommend to start with Kile (a KDE app) as it is easy to learn and installing it should install most of the needed packages for LaTex and PDF generation. Just have a look at the screenshots.

How to check if a file exists from a url

You don't need CURL for that... Too much overhead for just wanting to check if a file exists or not...

Use PHP's get_header.

$headers=get_headers($url);

Then check if $result[0] contains 200 OK (which means the file is there)

A function to check if a URL works could be this:

function UR_exists($url){
   $headers=get_headers($url);
   return stripos($headers[0],"200 OK")?true:false;
}

/* You can test a URL like this (sample) */
if(UR_exists("http://www.amazingjokes.com/"))
   echo "This page exists";
else
   echo "This page does not exist";

Set JavaScript variable = null, or leave undefined?

Be careful if you use this value to assign some object's property and call JSON.stringify later* - nulls will remain, but undefined properties will be omited, as in example below:

_x000D_
_x000D_
var a, b = null;_x000D_
_x000D_
c = {a, b};_x000D_
_x000D_
console.log(c);_x000D_
console.log(JSON.stringify(c)) // a omited
_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_

*or some utility function/library that works in similar way or uses JSON.stringify underneath

Need table of key codes for android and presenter

You can find a complete list of Key Codes and an explanation here: http://code.google.com/p/androhid/wiki/Keycodes

React - uncaught TypeError: Cannot read property 'setState' of undefined

you have to bind new event with this keyword as i mention below...

class Counter extends React.Component {
    constructor(props) {
        super(props);

        this.state = {
            count : 1
        };

        this.delta = this.delta.bind(this);
    }

    delta() {
        this.setState({
            count : this.state.count++
        });
    }

    render() {
        return (
            <div>
                <h1>{this.state.count}</h1>
                <button onClick={this.delta}>+</button>
            </div>
        );
      }
    }

Selected value for JSP drop down using JSTL

i tried the last answer from Sandeep Kumar, and i found way more simple :

<option value="1" <c:if test="${item.key == 1}"> selected </c:if>>

How can I list (ls) the 5 last modified files in a directory?

The accepted answer lists only the filenames, but to get the top 5 files one can also use:

ls -lht | head -6

where:

-l outputs in a list format

-h makes output human readable (i.e. file sizes appear in kb, mb, etc.)

-t sorts output by placing most recently modified file first

head -6 will show 5 files because ls prints the block size in the first line of output.

I think this is a slightly more elegant and possibly more useful approach.

Example output:

total 26960312 -rw-r--r--@ 1 user staff 1.2K 11 Jan 11:22 phone2.7.py -rw-r--r--@ 1 user staff 2.7M 10 Jan 15:26 03-cookies-1.pdf -rw-r--r--@ 1 user staff 9.2M 9 Jan 16:21 Wk1_sem.pdf -rw-r--r--@ 1 user staff 502K 8 Jan 10:20 lab-01.pdf -rw-rw-rw-@ 1 user staff 2.0M 5 Jan 22:06 0410-1.wmv

How to create a shared library with cmake?

I'm trying to learn how to do this myself, and it seems you can install the library like this:

cmake_minimum_required(VERSION 2.4.0)

project(mycustomlib)

# Find source files
file(GLOB SOURCES src/*.cpp)

# Include header files
include_directories(include)

# Create shared library
add_library(${PROJECT_NAME} SHARED ${SOURCES})

# Install library
install(TARGETS ${PROJECT_NAME} DESTINATION lib/${PROJECT_NAME})

# Install library headers
file(GLOB HEADERS include/*.h)
install(FILES ${HEADERS} DESTINATION include/${PROJECT_NAME})

Difference between size and length methods?

length is constant which is used to find out the array storing capacity not the number of elements in the array

Example:

int[] a = new int[5]

a.length always returns 5, which is called the capacity of an array. But

number of elements in the array is called size

Example:

int[] a = new int[5]
a[0] = 10

Here the size would be 1, but a.length is still 5. Mind that there is no actual property or method called size on an array so you can't just call a.size or a.size() to get the value 1.

The size() method is available for collections, length works with arrays in Java.

How can I load Partial view inside the view?

Small tweek to the above

@Ajax.ActionLink(
    "Click Here to Load the Partial View",
    "ActionName",
    "ControlerName",
    null,
    new AjaxOptions { UpdateTargetId = "toUpdate" }
)

<div id="toUpdate"></div>

batch file - counting number of files in folder and storing in a variable

The mugume david answer fails on an empty folder; Count is 1 instead of a 0 when looking for a pattern rather than all files. For example *.xml

This works for me:

attrib.exe /s ./*.xml | find /v "File not found - " | find /c /v ""

Collections.sort with multiple fields

This is an old question so I don't see a Java 8 equivalent. Here is an example for this specific case.

import java.util.ArrayList;
import java.util.Collections;
import java.util.Comparator;
import java.util.List;

/**
 * Compares multiple parts of the Report object.
 */
public class SimpleJava8ComparatorClass {

    public static void main(String[] args) {
        List<Report> reportList = new ArrayList<>();
        reportList.add(new Report("reportKey2", "studentNumber2", "school1"));
        reportList.add(new Report("reportKey4", "studentNumber4", "school6"));
        reportList.add(new Report("reportKey1", "studentNumber1", "school1"));
        reportList.add(new Report("reportKey3", "studentNumber2", "school4"));
        reportList.add(new Report("reportKey2", "studentNumber2", "school3"));

        System.out.println("pre-sorting");
        System.out.println(reportList);
        System.out.println();

        Collections.sort(reportList, Comparator.comparing(Report::getReportKey)
            .thenComparing(Report::getStudentNumber)
            .thenComparing(Report::getSchool));

        System.out.println("post-sorting");
        System.out.println(reportList);
    }

    private static class Report {

        private String reportKey;
        private String studentNumber;
        private String school;

        public Report(String reportKey, String studentNumber, String school) {
            this.reportKey = reportKey;
            this.studentNumber = studentNumber;
            this.school = school;
        }

        public String getReportKey() {
            return reportKey;
        }

        public void setReportKey(String reportKey) {
            this.reportKey = reportKey;
        }

        public String getStudentNumber() {
            return studentNumber;
        }

        public void setStudentNumber(String studentNumber) {
            this.studentNumber = studentNumber;
        }

        public String getSchool() {
            return school;
        }

        public void setSchool(String school) {
            this.school = school;
        }

        @Override
        public String toString() {
            return "Report{" +
                   "reportKey='" + reportKey + '\'' +
                   ", studentNumber='" + studentNumber + '\'' +
                   ", school='" + school + '\'' +
                   '}';
        }
    }

FPDF error: Some data has already been output, can't send PDF

For fpdf to work properly, there cannot be any output at all beside what fpdf generates. For example, this will work:

<?php
$pdf = new FPDF();
$pdf->AddPage();
$pdf->SetFont('Arial','B',16);
$pdf->Cell(40,10,'Hello World!');
$pdf->Output();
?>

While this will not (note the leading space before the opening <? tag)

 <?php
$pdf = new FPDF();
$pdf->AddPage();
$pdf->SetFont('Arial','B',16);
$pdf->Cell(40,10,'Hello World!');
$pdf->Output();
?>

Also, this will not work either (the echo will break it):

<?php
echo "About to create pdf";
$pdf = new FPDF();
$pdf->AddPage();
$pdf->SetFont('Arial','B',16);
$pdf->Cell(40,10,'Hello World!');
$pdf->Output();
?>

I'm not sure about the drupal side of things, but I know that absolutely zero non-fpdf output is a requirement for fpdf to work.

add ob_start (); at the top and at the end add ob_end_flush();

<?php
    ob_start();
    require('fpdf.php');
    $pdf = new FPDF();
    $pdf->AddPage();
    $pdf->SetFont('Arial','B',16);
    $pdf->Cell(40,10,'Hello World!');
    $pdf->Output();
    ob_end_flush();
?>

give me an error as below:
FPDF error: Some data has already been output, can't send PDF

to over come this error: go to fpdf.php in that,goto line number 996

function Output($name='', $dest='')

after that make changes like this:

function Output($name='', $dest='') {
    ob_clean();     //Output PDF to so

Hi do you have a session header on the top of your page. or any includes If you have then try to add this codes on top pf your page it should works fine.

<?

while (ob_get_level())
ob_end_clean();
header("Content-Encoding: None", true);

?>

cheers :-)

In my case i had set:

ini_set('display_errors', 'on');
error_reporting(E_ALL | E_STRICT);

When i made the request to generate the report, some warnings were displayed in the browser (like the usage of deprecated functions).
Turning off the display_errors option, the report was generated successfully.
