Programs & Examples On #Reloading

"The page has expired due to inactivity" - Laravel 5.5

Many time its happening because you are testing project in back date

How to prevent page from reloading after form submit - JQuery

The <button> element, when placed in a form, will submit the form automatically unless otherwise specified. You can use the following 2 strategies:

  1. Use <button type="button"> to override default submission behavior
  2. Use event.preventDefault() in the onSubmit event to prevent form submission

Solution 1:

  • Advantage: simple change to markup
  • Disadvantage: subverts default form behavior, especially when JS is disabled. What if the user wants to hit "enter" to submit?

Insert extra type attribute to your button markup:

<button id="button" type="button" value="send" class="btn btn-primary">Submit</button>

Solution 2:

  • Advantage: form will work even when JS is disabled, and respects standard form UI/UX such that at least one button is used for submission

Prevent default form submission when button is clicked. Note that this is not the ideal solution because you should be in fact listening to the submit event, not the button click event:

$(document).ready(function () {
  // Listen to click event on the submit button
  $('#button').click(function (e) {

    e.preventDefault();

    var name = $("#name").val();
    var email = $("#email").val();

    $.post("process.php", {
      name: name,
      email: email
    }).complete(function() {
        console.log("Success");
      });
  });
});

Better variant:

In this improvement, we listen to the submit event emitted from the <form> element:

$(document).ready(function () {
  // Listen to submit event on the <form> itself!
  $('#main').submit(function (e) {

    e.preventDefault();

    var name = $("#name").val();
    var email = $("#email").val();

    $.post("process.php", {
      name: name,
      email: email
    }).complete(function() {
        console.log("Success");
      });
  });
});

Even better variant: use .serialize() to serialize your form, but remember to add name attributes to your input:

The name attribute is required for .serialize() to work, as per jQuery's documentation:

For a form element's value to be included in the serialized string, the element must have a name attribute.

<input type="text" id="name" name="name" class="form-control mb-2 mr-sm-2 mb-sm-0" id="inlineFormInput" placeholder="Jane Doe">
<input type="text" id="email" name="email" class="form-control" id="inlineFormInputGroup" placeholder="[email protected]">

And then in your JS:

$(document).ready(function () {
  // Listen to submit event on the <form> itself!
  $('#main').submit(function (e) {

    // Prevent form submission which refreshes page
    e.preventDefault();

    // Serialize data
    var formData = $(this).serialize();

    // Make AJAX request
    $.post("process.php", formData).complete(function() {
      console.log("Success");
    });
  });
});

How to force reloading a page when using browser back button?

Just use jquery :

jQuery( document ).ready(function( $ ) {

   //Use this inside your document ready jQuery
   $(window).on('popstate', function() {
      location.reload(true);
   });

});

The above will work 100% when back or forward button has been clicked using ajax as well.

if it doesn't, there must be a misconfiguration in a different part of the script.

For example it might not reload if something like one of the example in the previous post is used window.history.pushState('', null, './');

so when you do use history.pushState(); make sure you use it properly.

Suggestion in most cases you will just need:

history.pushState(url, '', url);

No window.history... and make sure url is defined.

Hope that helps..

Selenium -- How to wait until page is completely loaded

You can do this in many ways before clicking on add items:

WebDriverWait wait = new WebDriverWait(driver, 40);
wait.until(ExpectedConditions.elementToBeClickable(By.id("urelementid")));// instead of id u can use cssSelector or xpath of ur element.

or

wait.until(ExpectedConditions.visibilityOfElementLocated("urelement"));

You can also wait like this. If you want to wait until invisible of previous page element:

wait.until(ExpectedConditions.invisibilityOfElementLocated("urelement"));

Here is the link where you can find all the Selenium WebDriver APIs that can be used for wait and its documentation.

Change route params without reloading in Angular 2

I've had similar requirements as described in the question and it took a while to figure things out based on existing answers, so I would like to share my final solution.

Requirements

The state of my view (component, technically) can be changed by the user (filter settings, sorting options, etc.) When state changes happen, i.e. the user changes the sorting direction, I want to:

  • Reflect the state changes in the URL
  • Handle state changes, i.e. make an API call to receive a new result set

additionally, I would like to:

  • Specify if the URL changes are considered in the browser history (back/forward) based on circumstances
  • use complex objects as state params to provide greater flexibility in handling of state changes (optional, but makes life easier for example when some state changes trigger backend/API calls while others are handled by the frontend internally)

Solution: Change state without reloading component

A state change does not cause a component reload when using route parameters or query parameters. The component instance stays alive. I see no good reason to mess with the router state by using Location.go() or location.replaceState().

var state = { q: 'foo', sort: 'bar' };
var url = this.router.createUrlTree([], { relativeTo: this.activatedRoute, queryParams: state }).toString();
this.router.navigateByUrl(url);

The state object will be transformed to URL query params by Angular's Router:

https://localhost/some/route?q=foo&sort=bar

Solution: Handling state changes to make API calls

The state changes triggered above can be handled by subscribing to ActivatedRoute.queryParams:

export class MyComponent implements OnInit {

   constructor(private activatedRoute: ActivatedRoute) { }

   ngOnInit()
   {
      this.activatedRoute.queryParams.subscribe((params) => {
         // params is the state object passed to the router on navigation
         // Make API calls here
      });
   }

}

The state object of the above axample will be passed as the params argument of the queryParams observable. In the handler API calls can be made if necessary.

But: I would prefer handling the state changes directly in my component and avoid the detour over ActivatedRoute.queryParams. IMO, navigating the router, letting Angular do routing magic and handle the queryParams change to do something, completely obfuscates whats happening in my component with regards to maintenability and readability of my code. What I do instead:

Compare the state passed in to queryParams observable with the current state in my component, do nothing, if it hasn't changed there and handle state changes directly instead:

export class MyComponent implements OnInit {

   private _currentState;

   constructor(private activatedRoute: ActivatedRoute) { }

   ngOnInit()
   {
      this.activatedRoute.queryParams.subscribe((params) => {
         // Following comparison assumes, that property order doesn't change
         if (JSON.stringify(this._currentState) == JSON.stringify(params)) return;
         // The followig code will be executed only when the state changes externally, i.e. through navigating to a URL with params by the user
         this._currentState = params;
         this.makeApiCalls();
      });
   }

   updateView()
   {
      this.makeApiCalls();
      this.updateUri();
   }

   updateUri()
   {
      var url = this.router.createUrlTree([], { relativeTo: this.activatedRoute, queryParams: this._currentState }).toString();
this.router.navigateByUrl(url);
   }
}

Solution: Specify browser history behavior

var createHistoryEntry = true // or false
var url = ... // see above
this.router.navigateByUrl(url, { replaceUrl : !createHistoryEntry});

Solution: Complex objects as state

This is beyond the original question but adresses common scenarios and might thus be useful: The state object above is limited to flat objects (an object with only simple string/bool/int/... properties but no nested objects). I found this limiting, because I need to distinguish between properties that need to be handled with a backend call and others, that are only used by the component internally. I wanted a state object like:

var state = { filter: { something: '', foo: 'bar' }, viewSettings: { ... } };

To use this state as queryParams object for the router, it needs to be flattened. I simply JSON.stringify all first level properties of the object:

private convertToParamsData(data) {
    var params = {};

    for (var prop in data) {
      if (Object.prototype.hasOwnProperty.call(data, prop)) {
        var value = data[prop];
        if (value == null || value == undefined) continue;
        params[prop] = JSON.stringify(value, (k, v) => {
          if (v !== null) return v
        });
      }
    }
    return params;
 }

and back, when handling the queryParams returned passed in by the router:

private convertFromParamsData(params) {
    var data = {};

    for (var prop in params) {
      if (Object.prototype.hasOwnProperty.call(params, prop)) {
        data[prop] = JSON.parse(params[prop]);
      }
    }
    return data;
}

Finally: A ready-to-use Angular service

And finally, all of this isolated in one simple service:

import { Injectable } from '@angular/core';
import { ActivatedRoute, Router } from '@angular/router';
import { Observable } from 'rxjs';
import { Location } from '@angular/common';
import { map, filter, tap } from 'rxjs/operators';

@Injectable()
export class QueryParamsService {

  private currentParams: any;

  externalStateChange: Observable<any>;

  constructor(private activatedRoute: ActivatedRoute, private router: Router, private location: Location) {

    this.externalStateChange = this.activatedRoute.queryParams
      .pipe(map((flatParams) => {
        var params = this.convertFromParamsData(flatParams);
        return params
      }))
      .pipe(filter((params) => {
        return !this.equalsCurrentParams(params);
      }))
      .pipe(tap((params) => {
        this.currentParams = params;
      }));
  }

  setState(data: any, createHistoryEntry = false) {
    var flat = this.convertToParamsData(data);
    const url = this.router.createUrlTree([], { relativeTo: this.activatedRoute, queryParams: flat }).toString();
    this.currentParams = data;
    this.router.navigateByUrl(url, { replaceUrl: !createHistoryEntry });
  }

  private equalsCurrentParams(data) {
    var isEqual = JSON.stringify(data) == JSON.stringify(this.currentParams);
    return isEqual;
  }

  private convertToParamsData(data) {
    var params = {};

    for (var prop in data) {
      if (Object.prototype.hasOwnProperty.call(data, prop)) {
        var value = data[prop];
        if (value == null || value == undefined) continue;
        params[prop] = JSON.stringify(value, (k, v) => {
          if (v !== null) return v
        });
      }
    }
    return params;
  }

  private convertFromParamsData(params) {
    var data = {};

    for (var prop in params) {
      if (Object.prototype.hasOwnProperty.call(params, prop)) {
        data[prop] = JSON.parse(params[prop]);
      }
    }
    return data;
  }
}

which can be used like:

@Component({
  selector: "app-search",
  templateUrl: "./search.component.html",
  styleUrls: ["./search.component.scss"],
  providers: [QueryParamsService]
})
export class ProjectSearchComponent implements OnInit {

    filter : any;

    viewSettings : any;

    constructor(private queryParamsService: QueryParamsService) { }

    ngOnInit(): void {

        this.queryParamsService.externalStateChange
          .pipe(debounce(() => interval(500))) // Debounce optional
          .subscribe(params => {
           // Set state from params, i.e.
           if (params.filter) this.filter = params.filter;
           if (params.viewSettings) this.viewSettings = params.viewSettings;

           // You might want to init this.filter, ... with default values here
           // If you want to write default values to URL, you can call setState here
            this.queryParamsService.setState(params, false); // false = no history entry

            this.initializeView(); //i.e. make API calls
         });
     }

     updateView() {

       var data = {
         filter: this.filter,
         viewSettings: this.viewSettings
       };

       this.queryParamsService.setState(data, true);

       // Do whatever to update your view
     }

  // ...

}

Don't forget the providers: [QueryParamsService] statement on component level to create a new service instance for the component. Don't register the service globally on app module.

NPM vs. Bower vs. Browserify vs. Gulp vs. Grunt vs. Webpack

Webpack is a bundler. Like Browserfy it looks in the codebase for module requests (require or import) and resolves them recursively. What is more, you can configure Webpack to resolve not just JavaScript-like modules, but CSS, images, HTML, literally everything. What especially makes me excited about Webpack, you can combine both compiled and dynamically loaded modules in the same app. Thus one get a real performance boost, especially over HTTP/1.x. How exactly you you do it I described with examples here http://dsheiko.com/weblog/state-of-javascript-modules-2017/ As an alternative for bundler one can think of Rollup.js (https://rollupjs.org/), which optimizes the code during compilation, but stripping all the found unused chunks.

For AMD, instead of RequireJS one can go with native ES2016 module system, but loaded with System.js (https://github.com/systemjs/systemjs)

Besides, I would point that npm is often used as an automating tool like grunt or gulp. Check out https://docs.npmjs.com/misc/scripts. I personally go now with npm scripts only avoiding other automation tools, though in past I was very much into grunt. With other tools you have to rely on countless plugins for packages, that often are not good written and not being actively maintained. npm knows its packages, so you call to any of locally installed packages by name like:

{
  "scripts": {
    "start": "npm http-server"
  },
  "devDependencies": {
    "http-server": "^0.10.0"
  }
}

Actually you as a rule do not need any plugin if the package supports CLI.

Reloading .env variables without restarting server (Laravel 5, shared hosting)

To be clear there are 4 types of caches you can clear depending upon your case.

php artisan cache:clear

You can run the above statement in your console when you wish to clear the application cache. What it does is that this statement clears all caches inside storage\framework\cache.

php artisan route:cache

This clears your route cache. So if you have added a new route or have changed a route controller or action you can use this one to reload the same.

php artisan config:cache

This will clear the caching of the env file and reload it

php artisan view:clear

This will clear the compiled view files of your application.

For Shared Hosting

Most of the shared hosting providers don't provide SSH access to the systems. In such a case you will need to create a route and call the following line as below:

Route::get('/clear-cache', function() {
    Artisan::call('cache:clear');
    return "All cache cleared";
});

Angular 2.0 router not working on reloading the browser

I checked in angular 2 seed how it works.

You can use express-history-api-fallback to redirect automatically when a page is reload.

I think it's the most elegant way to resolve this problem IMO.

Rails: Address already in use - bind(2) (Errno::EADDRINUSE)

It might be old but in my case, it was because of docker. Hope it will help others.

Dynamic Height Issue for UITableView Cells (Swift)

Unfortunately, I am not sure what I was missing. The above methods don't work for me to get the xib cell's height or let the layoutifneeded()or UITableView.automaticDimension to do the height calculation. I've been searching and trying for 3 to 4 nights but could not find an answer. Some answers here or on another post did give me hints for the workaround though. It's a stupid method but it works. Just add all your cells into an Array. And then set the outlet of each of your height constraint in the xib storyboard. Finally, add them up in the heightForRowAt method. It's just straight forward if you are not familiar with the those APIs.

How to force reloading php.ini file?

You also can use graceful restart the apache server with service apache2 reload or apachectl -k graceful. As the apache doc says:

The USR1 or graceful signal causes the parent process to advise the children to exit after their current request (or to exit immediately if they're not serving anything). The parent re-reads its configuration files and re-opens its log files. As each child dies off the parent replaces it with a child from the new generation of the configuration, which begins serving new requests immediately.

Clear History and Reload Page on Login/Logout Using Ionic Framework

The controller is called only once, and you SHOULD preserve this logic model, what I usually do is:

I create a method $scope.reload(params)

At the beginning of this method I call $ionicLoading.show({template:..}) to show my custom spinner

When may reload process is finished, I can call $ionicLoading.hide() as a callback

Finally, Inside the button REFRESH, I add ng-click = "reload(params)"

The only downside of this solution is that you lose the ionic navigation history system

Hope this helps!

AngularJS does not send hidden field value

You can always use a type=text and display:none; since Angular ignores hidden elements. As OP says, normally you wouldn't do this, but this seems like a special case.

<input type="text" name="someData" ng-model="data" style="display: none;"/>

Submit form without reloading page

You can use jQuery serialize function along with get/post as follows:

$.get('server.php?' + $('#theForm').serialize())

$.post('server.php', $('#theform').serialize())

jQuery Serialize Documentation: http://api.jquery.com/serialize/

Simple AJAX submit using jQuery:

// this is the id of the submit button
$("#submitButtonId").click(function() {

    var url = "path/to/your/script.php"; // the script where you handle the form input.

    $.ajax({
           type: "POST",
           url: url,
           data: $("#idForm").serialize(), // serializes the form's elements.
           success: function(data)
           {
               alert(data); // show response from the php script.
           }
         });

    return false; // avoid to execute the actual submit of the form.
});

Reloading the page gives wrong GET request with AngularJS HTML5 mode

I am using apache (xampp) on my dev environment and apache on the production, add:

Chrome Dev Tools - Modify javascript and reload

Great news, the fix is coming in March 2018, see this link: https://developers.google.com/web/updates/2018/01/devtools

"Local Overrides let you make changes in DevTools, and keep those changes across page loads. Previously, any changes that you made in DevTools would be lost when you reloaded the page. Local Overrides work for most file types

How it works:

  • You specify a directory where DevTools should save changes. When you make changes in DevTools, DevTools saves a copy of the modified file to your directory.
  • When you reload the page, DevTools serves the local, modified file, rather than the network resource.

To set up Local Overrides:

  1. Open the Sources panel.
  2. Open the Overrides tab.
  3. Click Setup Overrides.
  4. Select which directory you want to save your changes to.
  5. At the top of your viewport, click Allow to give DevTools read and write access to the directory.
  6. Make your changes."

UPDATE (March 19, 2018): It's live, detailed explanations here: https://developers.google.com/web/updates/2018/01/devtools#overrides

Auto reloading python Flask app upon code changes

If you're running using uwsgi look at the python auto reload option:

uwsgi --py-autoreload 1

Example uwsgi-dev-example.ini:

[uwsgi]
socket = 127.0.0.1:5000
master = true
virtualenv = /Users/xxxx/.virtualenvs/sites_env
chdir = /Users/xxx/site_root
module = site_module:register_debug_server()
callable = app
uid = myuser
chmod-socket = 660
log-date = true
workers = 1
py-autoreload = 1

site_root/__init__.py

def register_debug_server():
    from werkzeug.debug import DebuggedApplication

    app = Flask(__name__)
    app.debug = True
    app = DebuggedApplication(app, evalex=True)
    return app

Then run:

uwsgi --ini uwsgi-dev-example.ini

Note: This example also enables the debugger.

I went this route to mimic production as close as possible with my nginx setup. Simply running the flask app with it's built in web server behind nginx it would result in a bad gateway error.

Can you change a path without reloading the controller in AngularJS?

I use this solution

angular.module('reload-service.module', [])
.factory('reloadService', function($route,$timeout, $location) {
  return {
     preventReload: function($scope, navigateCallback) {
        var lastRoute = $route.current;

        $scope.$on('$locationChangeSuccess', function() {
           if (lastRoute.$$route.templateUrl === $route.current.$$route.templateUrl) {
              var routeParams = angular.copy($route.current.params);
              $route.current = lastRoute;
              navigateCallback(routeParams);
           }
        });
     }
  };
})

//usage
.controller('noReloadController', function($scope, $routeParams, reloadService) {
     $scope.routeParams = $routeParams;

     reloadService.preventReload($scope, function(newParams) {
        $scope.routeParams = newParams;
     });
});

This approach preserves back button functionality, and you always have the current routeParams in the template, unlike some other approaches I've seen.

How do we update URL or query strings using javascript/jQuery without reloading the page?

Plain javascript: document.location = 'http://www.google.com';

This will cause a browser refresh though - consider using hashes if you're in need of having the URL updated to implement some kind of browsing history without reloading the page. You might want to look into jQuery.hashchange if this is the case.

PHP - auto refreshing page

use this code ,it will automatically refresh in 5 seconds, you can change time in refresh

<?php $url1=$_SERVER['REQUEST_URI']; header("Refresh: 5; URL=$url1"); ?>

Modifying a query string without reloading the page

Building off of Fabio's answer, I created two functions that will probably be useful for anyone stumbling upon this question. With these two functions, you can call insertParam() with a key and value as an argument. It will either add the URL parameter or, if a query param already exists with the same key, it will change that parameter to the new value:

//function to remove query params from a URL
function removeURLParameter(url, parameter) {
    //better to use l.search if you have a location/link object
    var urlparts= url.split('?');
    if (urlparts.length>=2) {

        var prefix= encodeURIComponent(parameter)+'=';
        var pars= urlparts[1].split(/[&;]/g);

        //reverse iteration as may be destructive
        for (var i= pars.length; i-- > 0;) {
            //idiom for string.startsWith
            if (pars[i].lastIndexOf(prefix, 0) !== -1) {
                pars.splice(i, 1);
            }
        }

        url= urlparts[0] + (pars.length > 0 ? '?' + pars.join('&') : "");
        return url;
    } else {
        return url;
    }
}

//function to add/update query params
function insertParam(key, value) {
    if (history.pushState) {
        // var newurl = window.location.protocol + "//" + window.location.host + search.pathname + '?myNewUrlQuery=1';
        var currentUrlWithOutHash = window.location.origin + window.location.pathname + window.location.search;
        var hash = window.location.hash
        //remove any param for the same key
        var currentUrlWithOutHash = removeURLParameter(currentUrlWithOutHash, key);

        //figure out if we need to add the param with a ? or a &
        var queryStart;
        if(currentUrlWithOutHash.indexOf('?') !== -1){
            queryStart = '&';
        } else {
            queryStart = '?';
        }

        var newurl = currentUrlWithOutHash + queryStart + key + '=' + value + hash
        window.history.pushState({path:newurl},'',newurl);
    }
}

jQuery Uncaught TypeError: Property '$' of object [object Window] is not a function

In Wordpress just replace

$(function(){...});

with

jQuery(function(){...});

What is /dev/null 2>&1?

>> /dev/null redirects standard output (stdout) to /dev/null, which discards it.

(The >> seems sort of superfluous, since >> means append while > means truncate and write, and either appending to or writing to /dev/null has the same net effect. I usually just use > for that reason.)

2>&1 redirects standard error (2) to standard output (1), which then discards it as well since standard output has already been redirected.

How to destroy a JavaScript object?

You could put all of your code under one namespace like this:

var namespace = {};

namespace.someClassObj = {};

delete namespace.someClassObj;

Using the delete keyword will delete the reference to the property, but on the low level the JavaScript garbage collector (GC) will get more information about which objects to be reclaimed.

You could also use Chrome Developer Tools to get a memory profile of your app, and which objects in your app are needing to be scaled down.

Reloading a ViewController

You Must use

-(void)viewWillAppear:(BOOL)animated

and set your entries like you want...

Cannot create PoolableConnectionFactory (Io exception: The Network Adapter could not establish the connection)

I replaced the "localhost" with IP Address (Database server's public IP Address) in the jdbc Url then it worked.

jdbcUrl = "jdbc:oracle:thin:<user>@//localhost:1521/<Service Name>";

??

jdbcUrl = "jdbc:oracle:thin:<user>@//<Public IP Address>:1521/<Service Name>";

AJAX reload page with POST

There's another way with post instead of ajax

var jqxhr = $.post( "example.php", function() {
  alert( "success" );
})
  .done(function() {
    alert( "second success" );
  })
  .fail(function() {
    alert( "error" );
  })
  .always(function() {
    alert( "finished" );
  });

How do I change the default port (9000) that Play uses when I execute the "run" command?

Specify Port in Development

By default, SBT runs the application on port 9000:

sbt run

To specify a port add -Dhttp.port flag, for example:

sbt run -Dhttp.port=8080

Using the -Dhttp.port flag, you can debug multiple applications on your development machine. Please note, you can also use the -Dhttp.port flag in test and production environments.

Reload the page after ajax success

You use the ajaxStop to execute code when the ajax are completed:

$(document).ajaxStop(function(){
  setTimeout("window.location = 'otherpage.html'",100);
});

How to reload a div without reloading the entire page?

How to force Chrome's script debugger to reload javascript?

In my opinion it's easiest to work in a 'private browsing session' of chrome, to ensure that your javascript files don't come from the cache.

How to detect if URL has changed after hash in JavaScript

With jquery (and a plug-in) you can do

$(window).bind('hashchange', function() {
 /* things */
});

http://benalman.com/projects/jquery-hashchange-plugin/

Otherwise yes, you would have to use setInterval and check for a change in the hash event (window.location.hash)

Update! A simple draft

function hashHandler(){
    this.oldHash = window.location.hash;
    this.Check;

    var that = this;
    var detect = function(){
        if(that.oldHash!=window.location.hash){
            alert("HASH CHANGED - new has" + window.location.hash);
            that.oldHash = window.location.hash;
        }
    };
    this.Check = setInterval(function(){ detect() }, 100);
}

var hashDetection = new hashHandler();

Dynamically adding HTML form field using jQuery

You can add any type of HTML with methods like append and appendTo (among others):

jQuery manipulation methods

Example:

$('form#someform').append('<input type="text" name="something" id="something" />');

Calling a PHP function from an HTML form in the same file

Here is a full php script to do what you're describing, though pointless. You need to read up on server-side vs. client-side. PHP can't run on the client-side, you have to use javascript to interact with the server, or put up with a page refresh. If you can't understand that, there is no way you'll be able to use my code (or anyone else's) to your benefit.

The following code performs AJAX call without jQuery, and calls the same script to stream XML to the AJAX. It then inserts your username and a <br/> in a div below the user box.

Please go back to learning the basics before trying to pursue something as advanced as AJAX. You'll only be confusing yourself in the end and potentially wasting other people's money.

<?php
    function test() {
        header("Content-Type: text/xml");
        echo "<?xml version=\"1.0\" standalone=\"yes\"?><user>".$_GET["user"]."</user>"; //output an xml document.
    }
    if(isset($_GET["user"])){
        test();
    } else {
?><html>
    <head>
        <title>Test</title>
        <script type="text/javascript">
            function do_ajax() {
                if(window.XMLHttpRequest){
                    xmlhttp=new XMLHttpRequest();
                } else {
                    xmlhttp=new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP");
                }
                xmlhttp.onreadystatechange = function(){
                    if (xmlhttp.readyState==4 && xmlhttp.status==200)
                    {
                        var xmlDoc = xmlhttp.responseXML;
                        data=xmlDoc.getElementsByTagName("user")[0].childNodes[0].nodeValue;
                        mydiv = document.getElementById("Test");
                        mydiv.appendChild(document.createTextNode(data));
                        mydiv.appendChild(document.createElement("br"));
                    }
                }
                xmlhttp.open("GET","<?php echo $_SERVER["PHP_SELF"]; ?>?user="+document.getElementById('username').value,true);
                xmlhttp.send();
            }
        </script>
    </head>
    <body>
        <form action="test.php" method="post">
            <input type="text" name="user" placeholder="enter a text" id="username"/>
            <input type="button" value="submit" onclick="do_ajax()" />
        </form>
        <div id="Test"></div>
    </body>
</html><?php } ?>

How to reload the datatable(jquery) data?

You could use this function:

function RefreshTable(tableId, urlData)
    {
      //Retrieve the new data with $.getJSON. You could use it ajax too
      $.getJSON(urlData, null, function( json )
      {
        table = $(tableId).dataTable();
        oSettings = table.fnSettings();

        table.fnClearTable(this);

        for (var i=0; i<json.aaData.length; i++)
        {
          table.oApi._fnAddData(oSettings, json.aaData[i]);
        }

        oSettings.aiDisplay = oSettings.aiDisplayMaster.slice();
        table.fnDraw();
      });
    }

Dont' forget to call it after your delete function has succeded.

Reloading submodules in IPython

Note that the above mentioned autoreload only works in IntelliJ if you manually save the changed file (e.g. using ctrl+s or cmd+s). It doesn't seem to work with auto-saving.

Is this very likely to create a memory leak in Tomcat?

The key "Transactional Resources" looks like you are talking to the database without a proper transaction. Make sure transaction management is configured properly and no invocation path to the DAO exists that doesn't run under a @Transactional annotation. This can easily happen when you configured transaction management on the Controller level but are invoking DAOs in a timer or are using @PostConstruct annotations. I wrote it up here http://georgovassilis.blogspot.nl/2014/01/tomcat-spring-and-memory-leaks-when.html

Edit: It looks like this is (also?) a bug with spring-data-jpa which has been fixed with v1.4.3. I looked it up in the spring-data-jpa sources of LockModeRepositoryPostProcessor which sets the "Transactional Resources" key. In 1.4.3 it also clears the key again.

Preloading images with JavaScript

I recommend you use a try/catch to prevent some possible issues:

OOP:

    var preloadImage = function (url) {
        try {
            var _img = new Image();
            _img.src = url;
        } catch (e) { }
    }

Standard:

    function preloadImage (url) {
        try {
            var _img = new Image();
            _img.src = url;
        } catch (e) { }
    }

Also, while I love DOM, old stupid browsers may have problems with you using DOM, so avoid it altogether IMHO contrary to freedev's contribution. Image() has better support in old trash browsers.

HTML - Change\Update page contents without refreshing\reloading the page

You've got the right idea, so here's how to go ahead: the onclick handlers run on the client side, in the browser, so you cannot call a PHP function directly. Instead, you need to add a JavaScript function that (as you mentioned) uses AJAX to call a PHP script and retrieve the data. Using jQuery, you can do something like this:

<script type="text/javascript">
function recp(id) {
  $('#myStyle').load('data.php?id=' + id);
}
</script>

<a href="#" onClick="recp('1')" > One   </a>
<a href="#" onClick="recp('2')" > Two   </a>
<a href="#" onClick="recp('3')" > Three </a>

<div id='myStyle'>
</div>

Then you put your PHP code into a separate file: (I've called it data.php in the above example)

<?php
  require ('myConnect.php');
  $id = $_GET['id'];
  $results = mysql_query("SELECT para FROM content WHERE  para_ID='$id'");
  if( mysql_num_rows($results) > 0 )
  {
   $row = mysql_fetch_array( $results );
   echo $row['para'];
  }
?>

Online Internet Explorer Simulators

It really works great, but you only have 30 minutes/month for free.

For 19$/month you have unlimited time.

Updating address bar with new URL without hash or reloading the page

var newurl = window.location.protocol + "//" + window.location.host + window.location.pathname + '?foo=bar';
window.history.pushState({path:newurl},'',newurl);

Submit form without page reloading

You can try setting the target attribute of your form to a hidden iframe, so the page containing the form won't get reloaded.

I tried it with file uploads (which we know can't be done via AJAX), and it worked beautifully.

Is there an easy way to reload css without reloading the page?

There is absolutely no need to use jQuery for this. The following JavaScript function will reload all your CSS files:

function reloadCss()
{
    var links = document.getElementsByTagName("link");
    for (var cl in links)
    {
        var link = links[cl];
        if (link.rel === "stylesheet")
            link.href += "";
    }
}

form with no action and where enter does not reload page

When you press enter in a form the natural behaviour of form is to being submited, to stop this behaviour which is not natural, you have to prevent it from submiting( default behaviour), with jquery:

$("#yourFormId").on("submit",function(event){event.preventDefault()})

Eclipse 3.5 Unable to install plugins

I had to turn off my personal firewall and Windows firewall as well, and it worked in the end.

Preloading CSS Images

You could use this jQuery plugin waitForImage or you could put you images into an hidden div or (width:0 and height:0) and use onload event on images.

If you only have like 2-3 images you can bind events and trigger them in a chain so after every image you can do some code.

Preloading @font-face fonts?

Since 2017 you have preload

MDN: The preload value of the element's rel attribute allows you to write declarative fetch requests in your HTML , specifying resources that your pages will need very soon after loading, which you therefore want to start preloading early in the lifecycle of a page load, before the browser's main rendering machinery kicks in. This ensures that they are made available earlier and are less likely to block the page's first render, leading to performance improvements.

<link rel="preload" href="/fonts/myfont.eot" as="font" crossorigin="anonymous" />

Always check browser compatibility.

It is most useful for font preloading (not waiting for the browser to find it in some CSS). You can also preload some logos, icons and scripts.

Asynchronous file upload (AJAX file upload) using jsp and javascript

I don't believe AJAX can handle file uploads but this can be achieved with libraries that leverage flash. Another advantage of the flash implementation is the ability to do multiple files at once (like gmail).

SWFUpload is a good start : http://www.swfupload.org/documentation

jQuery and some of the other libraries have plugins that leverage SWFUpload. On my last project we used SWFUpload and Java without a problem.

Also helpful and worth looking into is Apache's FileUpload : http://commons.apache.org/fileupload/index.html

How do I modify the URL without reloading the page?

As pointed out by Thomas Stjernegaard Jeppesen, you could use History.js to modify URL parameters whilst the user navigates through your Ajax links and apps.

Almost an year has passed since that answer, and History.js grew and became more stable and cross-browser. Now it can be used to manage history states in HTML5-compliant as well as in many HTML4-only browsers. In this demo You can see an example of how it works (as well as being able to try its functionalities and limits.

Should you need any help in how to use and implement this library, i suggest you to take a look at the source code of the demo page: you will see it's very easy to do.

Finally, for a comprehensive explanation of what can be the issues about using hashes (and hashbangs), check out this link by Benjamin Lupton.

Dynamically fill in form values with jQuery

Assuming this example HTML:

<input type="text" name="email" id="email" />
<input type="text" name="first_name" id="first_name" />
<input type="text" name="last_name" id="last_name" />

You could have this javascript:

$("#email").bind("change", function(e){
  $.getJSON("http://yourwebsite.com/lokup.php?email=" + $("#email").val(),
        function(data){
          $.each(data, function(i,item){
            if (item.field == "first_name") {
              $("#first_name").val(item.value);
            } else if (item.field == "last_name") {
              $("#last_name").val(item.value);
            }
          });
        });
});

Then just you have a PHP script (in this case lookup.php) that takes an email in the query string and returns a JSON formatted array back with the values you want to access. This is the part that actually hits the database to look up the values:

<?php
//look up the record based on email and get the firstname and lastname
...

//build the JSON array for return
$json = array(array('field' => 'first_name',
                    'value' => $firstName),
              array('field' => 'last_name',
                    'value' => $last_name));
echo json_encode($json );
?>

You'll want to do other things like sanitize the email input, etc, but should get you going in the right direction.

Preloading images with jQuery

I wanted to do this with a Google Maps API custom overlay. Their sample code simply uses JS to insert IMG elements and the image placeholder box is displayed until the image is loaded. I found an answer here that worked for me : https://stackoverflow.com/a/10863680/2095698 .

$('<img src="'+ imgPaht +'">').load(function() {
$(this).width(some).height(some).appendTo('#some_target');
});

This preloads an image as suggested before, and then uses the handler to append the img object after the img URL is loaded. jQuery's documentation warns that cached images don't work well with this eventing/handler code, but it's working for me in FireFox and Chrome, and I don't have to worry about IE.

How to dynamically change a web page's title?

Maybe you can load on your title all the tabs titles in one string, and then once you load one of the tabs change the title via javascript

ex: at first set your title to

my app | description | contact | about us |

once you load one of the tabs run:

document.title = "my app | tab title";

How to load a jar file at runtime

This works for me:

File file  = new File("c:\\myjar.jar");

URL url = file.toURL();
URL[] urls = new URL[]{url};

ClassLoader cl = new URLClassLoader(urls);
Class cls = cl.loadClass("com.mypackage.myclass");

Is there a way to catch the back button event in javascript?

Use the hashchange event:

window.addEventListener("hashchange", function(e) {
  // ...
})

If you need to support older browsers, check out the hashChange Event section in Modernizr's HTML5 Cross Browser Polyfills wiki page.

Spring Boot JPA - configuring auto reconnect

I assume that boot is configuring the DataSource for you. In this case, and since you are using MySQL, you can add the following to your application.properties up to 1.3

spring.datasource.testOnBorrow=true
spring.datasource.validationQuery=SELECT 1

As djxak noted in the comment, 1.4+ defines specific namespaces for the four connections pools Spring Boot supports: tomcat, hikari, dbcp, dbcp2 (dbcp is deprecated as of 1.5). You need to check which connection pool you are using and check if that feature is supported. The example above was for tomcat so you'd have to write it as follows in 1.4+:

spring.datasource.tomcat.testOnBorrow=true
spring.datasource.tomcat.validationQuery=SELECT 1

Note that the use of autoReconnect is not recommended:

The use of this feature is not recommended, because it has side effects related to session state and data consistency when applications don't handle SQLExceptions properly, and is only designed to be used when you are unable to configure your application to handle SQLExceptions resulting from dead and stale connections properly.

How does the getView() method work when creating your own custom adapter?

What is exactly the function of the LayoutInflater?

When you design using XML, all your UI elements are just tags and parameters. Before you can use these UI elements, (eg a TextView or LinearLayout), you need to create the actual objects corresponding to these xml elements. That is what the inflater is for. The inflater, uses these tags and their corresponding parameters to create the actual objects and set all the parameters. After this you can get a reference to the UI element using findViewById().

Why do all the articles that I've read check if convertview is null or not first? What does it mean when it is null and what does it mean when it isn't?

This is an interesting one. You see, getView() is called everytime an item in the list is drawn. Now, before the item can be drawn, it has to be created. Now convertView basically is the last used view to draw an item. In getView() you inflate the xml first and then use findByViewID() to get the various UI elements of the listitem. When we check for (convertView == null) what we do is check that if a view is null(for the first item) then create it, else, if it already exists, reuse it, no need to go through the inflate process again. Makes it a lot more efficient.

You must also have come across a concept of ViewHolder in getView(). This makes the list more efficient. What we do is create a viewholder and store the reference to all the UI elements that we got after inflating. This way, we can avoid calling the numerous findByViewId() and save on a lot of time. This ViewHolder is created in the (convertView == null) condition and is stored in the convertView using setTag(). In the else loop we just obtain it back using getView() and reuse it.

What is the parent parameter that this method accepts?

The parent is a ViewGroup to which your view created by getView() is finally attached. Now in your case this would be the ListView.

Hope this helps :)

How to edit the legend entry of a chart in Excel?

There are 3 ways to do this:

1. Define the Series names directly

Right-click on the Chart and click Select Data then edit the series names directly as shown below.

enter image description here

You can either specify the values directly e.g. Series 1 or specify a range e.g. =A2

enter image description here

2. Create a chart defining upfront the series and axis labels

Simply select your data range (in similar format as I specified) and create a simple bar chart. The labels should be defined automatically. enter image description here

3. Define the legend (series names) using VBA

Similarly you can define the series names dynamically using VBA. A simple example below:

ActiveChart.ChartArea.Select
ActiveChart.FullSeriesCollection(1).Name = "=""Hello"""

This will redefine the first series name. Just change the index from (1) to e.g. (2) and so on to change the following series names. What does the VBA above do? It sets the series name to Hello as "=""Hello""" translates to ="Hello" (" have to be escaped by a preceding ").

What is the difference between a deep copy and a shallow copy?

Adding to all the above definitions, one more and most commonly used deep copy, is in the copy constructor (or overloading assignment oprator) of the class.

Shallow copy --> is when you are not providing copy constructor. Here, only the object gets copied but not all the members of the class are copied.

Deep copy --> is when you have decided to implement copy constructor or overload assignment in your class and allows copying all the members of the class.

MyClass& MyClass(const MyClass& obj) // copy constructor for MyClass
{
          // write your code, to copy all the members and return the new object
}
MyClass& operator=(const MyClass& obj) // overloading assignment operator,
{
          // write your code, to copy all the members and return the new object
}

Best way to call a JSON WebService from a .NET Console

WebClient to fetch the contents from the remote url and JavaScriptSerializer or Json.NET to deserialize the JSON into a .NET object. For example you define a model class which will reflect the JSON structure and then:

using (var client = new WebClient())
{
    var json = client.DownloadString("http://example.com/json");
    var serializer = new JavaScriptSerializer();
    SomeModel model = serializer.Deserialize<SomeModel>(json);
    // TODO: do something with the model
}

There are also some REST client frameworks you may checkout such as RestSharp.

SQL - Create view from multiple tables

Union is not what you want. You want to use joins to create single rows. It's a little unclear what constitutes a unique row in your tables and how they really relate to each other and it's also unclear if one table will have rows for every country in every year. But I think this will work:

CREATE VIEW V AS (

  SELECT i.country,i.year,p.pop,f.food,i.income FROM
    INCOME i
  LEFT JOIN
    POP p
  ON
    i.country=p.country
  LEFT JOIN
    Food f
  ON
    i.country=f.country
  WHERE
    i.year=p.year
  AND
    i.year=f.year
);

The left (outer) join will return rows from the first table even if there are no matches in the second. I've written this assuming you would have a row for every country for every year in the income table. If you don't things get a bit hairy as MySQL does not have built in support for FULL OUTER JOINs last I checked. There are ways to simulate it, and they would involve unions. This article goes into some depth on the subject: http://www.xaprb.com/blog/2006/05/26/how-to-write-full-outer-join-in-mysql/

What's the best visual merge tool for Git?

You can install ECMerge diff/merge tool on your Linux, Mac or Windows. It is pre-configured in Git, so just using git mergetool will do the job.

Foreach with JSONArray and JSONObject

Make sure you are using this org.json: https://mvnrepository.com/artifact/org.json/json

if you are using Java 8 then you can use

import org.json.JSONArray;
import org.json.JSONObject;

JSONArray array = ...;

array.forEach(item -> {
    JSONObject obj = (JSONObject) item;
    parse(obj);
});

Just added a simple test to prove that it works:

Add the following dependency into your pom.xml file (To prove that it works, I have used the old jar which was there when I have posted this answer)

<dependency>
    <groupId>org.json</groupId>
    <artifactId>json</artifactId>
    <version>20160810</version>
</dependency>

And the simple test code snippet will be:

import org.json.JSONArray;
import org.json.JSONObject;

What is python's site-packages directory?

site-packages is just the location where Python installs its modules.

No need to "find it", python knows where to find it by itself, this location is always part of the PYTHONPATH (sys.path).

Programmatically you can find it this way:

import sys
site_packages = next(p for p in sys.path if 'site-packages' in p)
print site_packages

'/Users/foo/.envs/env1/lib/python2.7/site-packages'

SQL Query to add a new column after an existing column in SQL Server 2005

It is a bad idea to select * from anything, period. This is why SSMS adds every field name, even if there are hundreds, instead of select *. It is extremely inefficient regardless of how large the table is. If you don't know what the fields are, its still more efficient to pull them out of the INFORMATION_SCHEMA database than it is to select *.

A better query would be:

SELECT
 COLUMN_NAME,
 Case
  When DATA_TYPE In ('varchar', 'char', 'nchar', 'nvarchar', 'binary')
  Then convert(varchar(MAX), CHARACTER_MAXIMUM_LENGTH)
  When DATA_TYPE In ('numeric', 'int', 'smallint', 'bigint', 'tinyint')
  Then convert(varchar(MAX), NUMERIC_PRECISION)
  When DATA_TYPE = 'bit'
  Then convert(varchar(MAX), 1)
  When DATA_TYPE IN ('decimal', 'float')
  Then convert(varchar(MAX), Concat(Concat(NUMERIC_PRECISION, ', '), NUMERIC_SCALE))
  When DATA_TYPE IN ('date', 'datetime', 'smalldatetime', 'time', 'timestamp')
  Then ''
 End As DATALEN,
 DATA_TYPE
FROM INFORMATION_SCHEMA.COLUMNS
Where
 TABLE_NAME = ''

How can I disable a button in a jQuery dialog from a function?

How can I nullify css property?

You have to reset each individual property back to its default value. It's not great, but it's the only way, given the information you've given us.

In your example, you would do:

.c1 {
    height: auto;
}

You should search for each property here:

https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/CSS/Reference

For example, height:

Initial value : auto

Another example, max-height:

Initial value : none

In 2017, there is now another way, the unset keyword:

.c1 {
    height: unset;
}

Some documentation: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/CSS/unset

The unset CSS keyword is the combination of the initial and inherit keywords. Like these two other CSS-wide keywords, it can be applied to any CSS property, including the CSS shorthand all. This keyword resets the property to its inherited value if it inherits from its parent or to its initial value if not. In other words, it behaves like the inherit keyword in the first case and like the initial keyword in the second case.

Browser support is good: http://caniuse.com/css-unset-value

jQuery animated number counter from zero to value

You can do it with animate function in jQuery.

$({ countNum: $('.code').html() }).animate({ countNum: 4000 }, {
    duration: 8000,
    easing: 'linear',
    step: function () {
        $('.yourelement').html(Math.floor(this.countNum));
    },
    complete: function () {
        $('.code').html(this.countNum);
        //alert('finished');
   }
});

git: can't push (unpacker error) related to permission issues

I was getting similar error and please see below how I resolved it.

My directory structure: /opt/git/project.git and git user is git

$ cd /opt/git/project.git
$ sudo chown -R git:git .

chown with -R option recursively changes the ownership and and group (since i typed git:git in above command) of the current directory. chown -R is necessary since git changes many files inside your git directory when you push to the repository.

How can I close a Twitter Bootstrap popover with a click from anywhere (else) on the page?

How do I pass a class as a parameter in Java?

As you said GWT does not support reflection. You should use deferred binding instead of reflection, or third party library such as gwt-ent for reflection suppport at gwt layer.

Remove leading comma from a string

You can use directly replace function on javascript with regex or define a help function as in php ltrim(left) and rtrim(right):

1) With replace:

var myArray = ",'first string','more','even more'".replace(/^\s+/, '').split(/'?,?'/);

2) Help functions:

if (!String.prototype.ltrim) String.prototype.ltrim = function() {
    return this.replace(/^\s+/, '');
};
if (!String.prototype.rtrim) String.prototype.rtrim = function() {
    return this.replace(/\s+$/, '');
};
var myArray = ",'first string','more','even more'".ltrim().split(/'?,?'/).filter(function(el) {return el.length != 0});;

You can do and other things to add parameter to the help function with what you want to replace the char, etc.

Calculating distance between two points (Latitude, Longitude)

As you're using SQL 2008 or later, I'd recommend checking out the GEOGRAPHY data type. SQL has built in support for geospatial queries.

e.g. you'd have a column in your table of type GEOGRAPHY which would be populated with a geospatial representation of the coordinates (check out the MSDN reference linked above for examples). This datatype then exposes methods allowing you to perform a whole host of geospatial queries (e.g. finding the distance between 2 points)

Pass array to mvc Action via AJAX

If you're using ASP.NET Core MVC and need to handle the square brackets (rather than use the jQuery "traditional" option), the only option I've found is to manually build the IEnumerable in the contoller method.

string arrayKey = "p[]=";
var pArray = HttpContext.Request.QueryString.Value
    .Split('&')
    .Where(s => s.Contains(arrayKey))
    .Select(s => s.Substring(arrayKey.Length));

How to add images in select list?

In Firefox you can just add background image to option:

<select>
  <option style="background-image:url(male.png);">male</option>
  <option style="background-image:url(female.png);">female</option>
  <option style="background-image:url(others.png);">others</option>
</select>

Better yet, you can separate HTML and CSS like that

HTML

<select id="gender">
  <option>male</option>
  <option>female</option>
  <option>others</option>
</select>

CSS

select#gender option[value="male"]   { background-image:url(male.png);   }
select#gender option[value="female"] { background-image:url(female.png); }
select#gender option[value="others"] { background-image:url(others.png); }

In other browsers the only way of doing that would be using some JS widget library, like for example jQuery UI, e.g. using Selectable.

From jQuery UI 1.11, Selectmenu widget is available, which is very close to what you want.

Google Maps how to Show city or an Area outline

i was looking for the same and found the answer,

solution is to use the styled map, on below link you can create your custom styles through wizard and test is at the same time google map style wizard

you can check all available options : here

here is my sample code which creates boundary for states and hide all the road and there labels.

    var styles = [
  {
    "featureType": "administrative.province",
    "elementType": "geometry.stroke",
    "stylers": [
      { "visibility": "on" },
      { "weight": 2.5 },
      { "color": "#24b0e2" }
    ]
  },{
    "featureType": "road",
    "elementType": "geometry",
    "stylers": [
      { "visibility": "off" }
    ]
  },{
    "featureType": "administrative.locality",
    "stylers": [
      { "visibility": "off" }
    ]
  },{
    "featureType": "road",
    "elementType": "labels",
    "stylers": [
      { "visibility": "off" }
    ]
  }
];

  var  geocoder = new google.maps.Geocoder();
   geocoder.geocode({
       'address': "rajasthan"
   }, (results, status)=> {
     var mapOpts = {
       mapTypeId: google.maps.MapTypeId.ROADMAP,
       scaleControl: true,
       scrollwheel: false,
       styles:styles,
       center: results[0].geometry.location,
       zoom:6
     }
     map = new google.maps.Map(document.getElementById("map"), mapOpts);
   });

Serving favicon.ico in ASP.NET MVC

I think that favicon.ico should be in root folder. It just belongs there.

If you want to servere diferent icons - put it into controler. You can do that. If not - just leave it in the root folder.

Add CSS3 transition expand/collapse

Here's a solution that doesn't use JS at all. It uses checkboxes instead.

You can hide the checkbox by adding this to your CSS:

.container input{
    display: none;
}

And then add some styling to make it look like a button.

Here's the source code that I modded.

Configuring ObjectMapper in Spring

There is org.springframework.http.converter.json.Jackson2ObjectMapperFactoryBean for a long time. Starting from 1.2 release of Spring Boot there is org.springframework.http.converter.json.Jackson2ObjectMapperBuilder for Java Config.

In String Boot configuration can be as simple as:

spring.jackson.deserialization.<feature_name>=true|false
spring.jackson.generator.<feature_name>=true|false
spring.jackson.mapper.<feature_name>=true|false
spring.jackson.parser.<feature_name>=true|false
spring.jackson.serialization.<feature_name>=true|false
spring.jackson.default-property-inclusion=always|non_null|non_absent|non_default|non_empty

in classpath:application.properties or some Java code in @Configuration class:

@Bean
public Jackson2ObjectMapperBuilder jacksonBuilder() {
    Jackson2ObjectMapperBuilder builder = new Jackson2ObjectMapperBuilder();
    builder.indentOutput(true).dateFormat(new SimpleDateFormat("yyyy-MM-dd"));
    return builder;
}

How to find substring from string?

validation of input text field in html using javascript

If you are not using jQuery then I would simply write a validation method that you can be fired when the form is submitted. The method can validate the text fields to make sure that they are not empty or the default value. The method will return a bool value and if it is false you can fire off your alert and assign classes to highlight the fields that did not pass validation.

HTML:

<form name="form1" method="" action="" onsubmit="return validateForm(this)">
<input type="text" name="name" value="Name"/><br />
<input type="text" name="addressLine01" value="Address Line 1"/><br />
<input type="submit"/>
</form>

JavaScript:

function validateForm(form) {

    var nameField = form.name;
    var addressLine01 = form.addressLine01;

    if (isNotEmpty(nameField)) {
        if(isNotEmpty(addressLine01)) {
            return true;
        {
    {
    return false;
}

function isNotEmpty(field) {

    var fieldData = field.value;

    if (fieldData.length == 0 || fieldData == "" || fieldData == fieldData) {

        field.className = "FieldError"; //Classs to highlight error
        alert("Please correct the errors in order to continue.");
        return false;
    } else {

        field.className = "FieldOk"; //Resets field back to default
        return true; //Submits form
    }
}

The validateForm method assigns the elements you want to validate and then in this case calls the isNotEmpty method to validate if the field is empty or has not been changed from the default value. it continuously calls the inNotEmpty method until it returns a value of true or if the conditional fails for that field it will return false.

Give this a shot and let me know if it helps or if you have any questions. of course you can write additional custom methods to validate numbers only, email address, valid URL, etc.

If you use jQuery at all I would look into trying out the jQuery Validation plug-in. I have been using it for my last few projects and it is pretty nice. Check it out if you get a chance. http://docs.jquery.com/Plugins/Validation

Responsive font size in CSS

I am afraid there isn't any easy solution with regards to font resizing. You can change the font size using a media query, but technically it will not resize smoothly. For an example, if you use:

@media only screen and (max-width: 320px){font-size: 3em;}

your font-size will be 3em both for a 300 pixels and 200 pixels width. But you need lower font-size for 200px width to make perfect responsive.

So, what is the real solution? There is only one way. You have to create a PNG image (with a transparent background) containing your text. After that you can easily make your image responsive (for example: width:35%; height:28px). By this way your text will be fully responsive with all devices.

400 is the best choice in both cases. If you want to further clarify the error you can either change the Reason Phrase or include a body to explain the error.

403 - Forbidden is used when the server wishes to prevent access to a resource.

The only other choice that is possible is 422 - Unprocessable entity.

FROM (SELECT DISTINCT * FROM Table1) AS T1
GROUP BY name

Result for your test data:

dave 2
mark 2

Proxies with Python 'Requests' module

If you'd like to persisist cookies and session data, you'd best do it like this:

import requests

proxies = {
    'http': 'http://user:[email protected]:3128',
    'https': 'https://user:[email protected]:3128',
}

# Create the session and set the proxies.
s = requests.Session()
s.proxies = proxies

# Make the HTTP request through the session.
r = s.get('http://www.showmemyip.com/')

Case insensitive comparison NSString

On macOS you can simply use -[NSString isCaseInsensitiveLike:], which returns BOOL just like -isEqual:.

if ([@"Test" isCaseInsensitiveLike: @"test"])
    // Success

ng: command not found while creating new project using angular-cli

The issue is simple, npm doesn't know about ng

Just run npm link @angular/cli and it should work seamlessly.

Convert a String representation of a Dictionary to a dictionary?

https://docs.python.org/3.8/library/json.html

JSON can solve this problem though its decoder wants double quotes around keys and values. If you don't mind a replace hack...

import json
s = "{'muffin' : 'lolz', 'foo' : 'kitty'}"
json_acceptable_string = s.replace("'", "\"")
d = json.loads(json_acceptable_string)
# d = {u'muffin': u'lolz', u'foo': u'kitty'}

NOTE that if you have single quotes as a part of your keys or values this will fail due to improper character replacement. This solution is only recommended if you have a strong aversion to the eval solution.

More about json single quote: jQuery.parseJSON throws “Invalid JSON” error due to escaped single quote in JSON

Interface defining a constructor signature?

A very late contribution demonstrating another problem with interfaced constructors. (I choose this question because it has the clearest articulation of the problem). Suppose we could have:

interface IPerson
{
    IPerson(string name);
}

interface ICustomer
{
    ICustomer(DateTime registrationDate);
}

class Person : IPerson, ICustomer
{
    Person(string name) { }
    Person(DateTime registrationDate) { }
}

Where by convention the implementation of the "interface constructor" is replaced by the type name.

Now make an instance:

ICustomer a = new Person("Ernie");

Would we say that the contract ICustomer is obeyed?

And what about this:

interface ICustomer
{
    ICustomer(string address);
}

Difference between frontend, backend, and middleware in web development

There are in fact 3 questions in your question :

  • Define frontend, middle and back end
  • How and when do they overlap ?
  • Their associated usual bottlenecks.

What JB King has described is correct, but it is a particular, simple version, where in fact he mapped front, middle and bacn to an MVC layer. He mapped M to the back, V to the front, and C to the middle.

For many people, it is just fine, since they come from the ugly world where even MVC was not applied, and you could have direct DB calls in a view.

However in real, complex web applications, you indeed have two or three different layers, called front, middle and back. Each of them may have an associated database and a controller.

The front-end will be visible by the end-user. It should not be confused with the front-office, which is the UI for parameters and administration of the front. The front-end will usually be some kind of CMS or e-commerce Platform (Magento, etc.)

The middle-end is not compulsory and is where the business logics is. It will be based on a PIM, a MDM tool, or some kind of custom database where you enrich your produts or your articles (for CMS). It'll also be the place where you code business functions that need to be shared between differents frontends (for instance between the PC frontend and the API-based mobile application). Sometimes, an ESB or tool like ActiveMQ will be your middle-end

The back-end will be a 3rd layer, surrouding your source database or your ERP. It may be jsut the API wrting to and reading from your ERP. It may be your supplier DB, if you are doing e-commerce. In fact, it really depends on web projects, but it is always a central repository. It'll be accessed either through a DB call, through an API, or an Hibernate layer, or a full-featured back-end application

This description means that answering the other 2 questions is not possible in this thread, as bottlenecks really depend on what your 3 ends contain : what JB King wrote remains true for simple MVC architectures

at the time the question was asked (5 years ago), maybe the MVC pattern was not yet so widely adopted. Now, there is absolutely no reason why the MVC pattern would not be followed and a view would be tied to DB calls. If you read the question "Are there cases where they MUST overlap, and frontend/backend cannot be separated?" in a broader sense, with 3 different components, then there times when the 3 layers architecture is useless of course. Think of a simple personal blog, you'll not need to pull external data or poll RabbitMQ queues.

Running Node.Js on Android

You can use Node.js for Mobile Apps.

It works on Android devices and simulators, with pre-built binaries for armeabi-v7a, x86, arm64-v8a, x86_64. It also works on iOS, though that's outside the scope of this question.

Like JXcore, it is used to host a Node.js engine in the same process as the app, in a dedicated thread. Unlike JXcore, it is basically pure Node.js, built as a library, with a few portability fixes to run on Android. This means that it's much easier to keep the project up to date with mainline Node.js.

Plugins for Cordova and React Native are also available. The plugins provide a communication layer between the JavaScript side of those frameworks and the Node.js side. They also simplify development by taking care of a few things automatically, like packaging modules and cross-compiling native modules at build time.

Full disclosure: I work for the company that develops Node.js for Mobile Apps.

Using an IF Statement in a MySQL SELECT query

How to use an IF statement in the MySQL "select list":

select if (1>2, 2, 3);                         //returns 3
select if(1<2,'yes','no');                     //returns yes
SELECT IF(STRCMP('test','test1'),'no','yes');  //returns no

How to use an IF statement in the MySQL where clause search condition list:

create table penguins (id int primary key auto_increment, name varchar(100))
insert into penguins (name) values ('rico')
insert into penguins (name) values ('kowalski')
insert into penguins (name) values ('skipper')

select * from penguins where 3 = id
-->3    skipper

select * from penguins where (if (true, 2, 3)) = id
-->2    kowalski

How to use an IF statement in the MySQL "having clause search conditions":

select * from penguins
where 1=1
having (if (true, 2, 3)) = id
-->1    rico

Use an IF statement with a column used in the select list to make a decision:

select (if (id = 2, -1, 1)) item
from penguins
where 1=1
--> 1
--> -1
--> 1

If statements embedded in SQL queries is a bad "code smell". Bad code has high "WTF's per minute" during code review. This is one of those things. If I see this in production with your name on it, I'm going to automatically not like you.

How to concatenate two strings to build a complete path

Won't simply concatenating the part of your path accomplish what you want?

$ base="/home/user1/MyFolder/"
$ subdir="subFold1"
$ new_path=$base$subdir
$ echo $new_path
/home/user1/MyFolder/subFold1

You can then create the folders/directories as needed.

One convention is to end directory paths with / (e.g. /home/) because paths starting with a / could be confused with the root directory. If a double slash (//) is used in a path, it is also still correct. But, if no slash is used on either variable, it would be incorrect (e.g. /home/user1/MyFoldersubFold1).

Google Geocoding API - REQUEST_DENIED

If you just copy&paste the example URL that Google gives in their website http://maps.google.com/maps/api/geocode/json?address=1600+Amphitheatre+Parkway,+Mountain+View,+CA&sensor=true_or_false it will fail because of the wrong parameter of the sensor. You should change it to true or false and not the one that they wrote. Maybe is the error that you have had, like it happened to me...

Traits vs. interfaces

An interface defines a set of methods that the implementing class must implement.

When a trait is use'd the implementations of the methods come along too--which doesn't happen in an Interface.

That is the biggest difference.

From the Horizontal Reuse for PHP RFC:

Traits is a mechanism for code reuse in single inheritance languages such as PHP. A Trait is intended to reduce some limitations of single inheritance by enabling a developer to reuse sets of methods freely in several independent classes living in different class hierarchies.

Generate random string/characters in JavaScript

I have made a String prototype which can generate a random String with a given length.

You also can secify if you want special chars and you can avoid some.

/**
 * STRING PROTOTYPE RANDOM GENERATOR
 * Used to generate a random string
 * @param {Boolean} specialChars
 * @param {Number} length
 * @param {String} avoidChars
 */
String.prototype.randomGenerator = function (specialChars = false, length = 1, avoidChars = '') {
    let _pattern = 'ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZabcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz0123456789';
    _pattern += specialChars === true ? '(){}[]+-*/=' : '';
    if (avoidChars && avoidChars.length) {
        for (let char of avoidChars) {
            _pattern = _pattern.replace(char, '');
        }
    }
    let _random = '';
    for (let element of new Array(parseInt(length))) {
        _random += _pattern.charAt(Math.floor(Math.random() * _pattern.length));
    }
    return _random;
};

You can use like this :

// Generate password with specialChars which contains 10 chars and avoid iIlL chars
var password = String().randomGenerator(true, 10, 'iIlL');

Hope it helps.

OPTION (RECOMPILE) is Always Faster; Why?

To add to the excellent list (given by @CodeCowboyOrg) of situations where OPTION(RECOMPILE) can be very helpful,

  1. Table Variables. When you are using table variables, there will not be any pre-built statistics for the table variable, often leading to large differences between estimated and actual rows in the query plan. Using OPTION(RECOMPILE) on queries with table variables allows generation of a query plan that has a much better estimate of the row numbers involved. I had a particularly critical use of a table variable that was unusable, and which I was going to abandon, until I added OPTION(RECOMPILE). The run time went from hours to just a few minutes. That is probably unusual, but in any case, if you are using table variables and working on optimizing, it's well worth seeing whether OPTION(RECOMPILE) makes a difference.

List all column except for one in R

You can index and use a negative sign to drop the 3rd column:

data[,-3]

Or you can list only the first 2 columns:

data[,c("c1", "c2")]
data[,1:2]

Don't forget the comma and referencing data frames works like this: data[row,column]

MomentJS getting JavaScript Date in UTC

A timestamp is a point in time. Typically this can be represented by a number of milliseconds past an epoc (the Unix Epoc of Jan 1 1970 12AM UTC). The format of that point in time depends on the time zone. While it is the same point in time, the "hours value" is not the same among time zones and one must take into account the offset from the UTC.

Here's some code to illustrate. A point is time is captured in three different ways.

var moment = require( 'moment' );

var localDate = new Date();
var localMoment = moment();
var utcMoment = moment.utc();
var utcDate = new Date( utcMoment.format() );

//These are all the same
console.log( 'localData unix = ' + localDate.valueOf() );
console.log( 'localMoment unix = ' + localMoment.valueOf() );
console.log( 'utcMoment unix = ' + utcMoment.valueOf() );

//These formats are different
console.log( 'localDate = ' + localDate );
console.log( 'localMoment string = ' + localMoment.format() );
console.log( 'utcMoment string = ' + utcMoment.format() );
console.log( 'utcDate  = ' + utcDate );

//One to show conversion
console.log( 'localDate as UTC format = ' + moment.utc( localDate ).format() );
console.log( 'localDate as UTC unix = ' + moment.utc( localDate ).valueOf() );

Which outputs this:

localData unix = 1415806206570
localMoment unix = 1415806206570
utcMoment unix = 1415806206570
localDate = Wed Nov 12 2014 10:30:06 GMT-0500 (EST)
localMoment string = 2014-11-12T10:30:06-05:00
utcMoment string = 2014-11-12T15:30:06+00:00
utcDate  = Wed Nov 12 2014 10:30:06 GMT-0500 (EST)
localDate as UTC format = 2014-11-12T15:30:06+00:00
localDate as UTC unix = 1415806206570

In terms of milliseconds, each are the same. It is the exact same point in time (though in some runs, the later millisecond is one higher).

As far as format, each can be represented in a particular timezone. And the formatting of that timezone'd string looks different, for the exact same point in time!

Are you going to compare these time values? Just convert to milliseconds. One value of milliseconds is always less than, equal to or greater than another millisecond value.

Do you want to compare specific 'hour' or 'day' values and worried they "came from" different timezones? Convert to UTC first using moment.utc( existingDate ), and then do operations. Examples of those conversions, when coming out of the DB, are the last console.log calls in the example.

Callback function for JSONP with jQuery AJAX

delete this line:

jsonp: 'jsonp_callback',

Or replace this line:

url: 'http://url.of.my.server/submit?callback=json_callback',

because currently you are asking jQuery to create a random callback function name with callback=? and then telling jQuery that you want to use jsonp_callback instead.

addEventListener vs onclick

onclick is basically an addEventListener that specifically performs a function when the element is clicked. So, useful when you have a button that does simple operations, like a calculator button. addEventlistener can be used for a multitude of things like performing an operation when DOM or all content is loaded, akin to window.onload but with more control.

Note, You can actually use more than one event with inline, or at least by using onclick by seperating each function with a semi-colon, like this....

I wouldn't write a function with inline, as you could potentially have problems later and it would be messy imo. Just use it to call functions already done in your script file.

Which one you use I suppose would depend on what you want. addEventListener for complex operations and onclick for simple. I've seen some projects not attach a specific one to elements and would instead implement a more global eventlistener that would determine if a tap was on a button and perform certain tasks depending on what was pressed. Imo that could potentially lead to problems I'd think, and albeit small, probably, a resource waste if that eventlistener had to handle each and every click

Generate preview image from Video file?

Two ways come to mind:

  • Using a command-line tool like the popular ffmpeg, however you will almost always need an own server (or a very nice server administrator / hosting company) to get that

  • Using the "screenshoot" plugin for the LongTail Video player that allows the creation of manual screenshots that are then sent to a server-side script.

Base64 Java encode and decode a string

The accepted answer uses the Apache Commons package but this is how I did it using Java's native libraries

Java 11 and up

import java.util.Base64;

public class Base64Encoding {

    public static void main(String[] args) {
        Base64.Encoder enc = Base64.getEncoder();
        Base64.Decoder dec = Base64.getDecoder();
        String str = "77+9x6s=";

        // encode data using BASE64
        String encoded = enc.encodeToString(str.getBytes());
        System.out.println("encoded value is \t" + encoded);

        // Decode data
        String decoded = new String(dec.decode(encoded));
        System.out.println("decoded value is \t" + decoded);
        System.out.println("original value is \t" + str);
    }
}

Java 6 - 10

import java.io.UnsupportedEncodingException;
import javax.xml.bind.DatatypeConverter;

public class EncodeString64 {
    public static void main(String[] args) throws UnsupportedEncodingException {

        String str = "77+9x6s=";
        // encode data using BASE64
        String encoded = DatatypeConverter.printBase64Binary(str.getBytes());
        System.out.println("encoded value is \t" + encoded);

        // Decode data
        String decoded = new String(DatatypeConverter.parseBase64Binary(encoded));
        System.out.println("decoded value is \t" + decoded);

        System.out.println("original value is \t" + str);
    }
}

The better way would be to try/catch the encoding/decoding steps but hopefully you get the idea.

Correct way to use Modernizr to detect IE?

CSS tricks have a good solution to target IE 11:

http://css-tricks.com/ie-10-specific-styles/

The .NET and Trident/7.0 are unique to IE so can be used to detect IE version 11.

The code then adds the User Agent string to the html tag with the attribute 'data-useragent', so IE 11 can be targeted specifically...

How do I give PHP write access to a directory?

Simple 3-Step Solution

Abstract: You need to set the owner of the directory to the user that PHP uses (web server user).

Step 1: Determine PHP User

Create a PHP file containing the following:

<?php echo `whoami`; ?>

Upload it to your web server. The output should be similar to the following:

www-data

Therefore, the PHP user is www-data.

Step 2: Determine Owner of Directory

Next, check the details of the web directory via the command line:

ls -dl /var/www/example.com/public_html/example-folder

The result should be similar to the following:

drwxrwxr-x 2 exampleuser1 exampleuser2 4096 Mar 29 16:34 example-folder

Therefore, the owner of the directory is exampleuser1.

Step 3: Change Directory Owner to PHP User

Afterwards, change the owner of the web directory to the PHP user:

sudo chown -R www-data /var/www/example.com/public_html/example-folder

Verify that the owner of the web directory has been changed:

ls -dl /var/www/example.com/public_html/example-folder

The result should be similar to the following:

drwxrwxr-x 2 www-data exampleuser2 4096 Mar 29 16:34 example-folder

Therefore, the owner of example-folder has successfully been changed to the PHP user: www-data.

Done! PHP should now be able to write to the directory.

how to get GET and POST variables with JQuery?

Or you can use this one http://plugins.jquery.com/project/parseQuery, it's smaller than most (minified 449 bytes), returns an object representing name-value pairs.

C# Creating and using Functions

This code gives you an error because your Add function needs to be static:

static public int Add(int x, int y)

In C# there is a distinction between functions that operate on instances (non-static) and functions that do not operate on instances (static). Instance functions can call other instance functions and static functions because they have an implicit reference to the instance. In contrast, static functions can call only static functions, or else they must explicitly provide an instance on which to call a non-static function.

Since public static void Main(string[] args) is static, all functions that it calls need to be static as well.

Twitter API - Display all tweets with a certain hashtag?

RegEx to parse or validate Base64 data

From the RFC 4648:

Base encoding of data is used in many situations to store or transfer data in environments that, perhaps for legacy reasons, are restricted to US-ASCII data.

So it depends on the purpose of usage of the encoded data if the data should be considered as dangerous.

But if you’re just looking for a regular expression to match Base64 encoded words, you can use the following:

^(?:[A-Za-z0-9+/]{4})*(?:[A-Za-z0-9+/]{2}==|[A-Za-z0-9+/]{3}=)?$

VBA Convert String to Date

Msg 102, Level 15, State 1, Line 1 Incorrect syntax near ' '

For the OP's command:

select compid,2, convert(datetime, '01/01/' + CONVERT(char(4),cal_yr) ,101) ,0,  Update_dt, th1, th2, th3_pc , Update_id, Update_dt,1
from  #tmp_CTF**

I get this error:

Msg 102, Level 15, State 1, Line 2
Incorrect syntax near '*'.

when debugging something like this split the long line up so you'll get a better row number:

select compid
,2
, convert(datetime
, '01/01/'
+ CONVERT(char(4)
,cal_yr)
,101)
,0
,  Update_dt
, th1
, th2
, th3_pc
, Update_id
, Update_dt
,1
from  #tmp_CTF**

this now results in:

Msg 102, Level 15, State 1, Line 16
Incorrect syntax near '*'.

which is probably just from the OP not putting the entire command in the question, or use [ ] braces to signify the table name:

from [#tmp_CTF**]

if that is the table name.

Poor man's string trim (spaces only):

std::string trimSpaces(const std::string& str)
{
    int start, len;

    for (start = 0; start < str.size() && str[start] == ' '; start++);
    for (len = str.size() - start; len > 0 && str[start + len - 1] == ' '; len--);

    return str.substr(start, len);
}

Pass by Reference / Value in C++

When passing by value:

void func(Object o);

and then calling

func(a);

you will construct an Object on the stack, and within the implementation of func it will be referenced by o. This might still be a shallow copy (the internals of a and o might point to the same data), so a might be changed. However if o is a deep copy of a, then a will not change.

When passing by reference:

void func2(Object& o);

and then calling

func2(a);

you will only be giving a new way to reference a. "a" and "o" are two names for the same object. Changing o inside func2 will make those changes visible to the caller, who knows the object by the name "a".

Inject service in app.config

** Explicitly request services from other modules using angular.injector **

Just to elaborate on kim3er's answer, you can provide services, factories, etc without changing them to providers, as long as they are included in other modules...

However, I'm not sure if the *Provider (which is made internally by angular after it processes a service, or factory) will always be available (it may depend on what else loaded first), as angular lazily loads modules.

Note that if you want to re-inject the values that they should be treated as constants.

Here's a more explicit, and probably more reliable way to do it + a working plunker

var base = angular.module('myAppBaseModule', [])
base.factory('Foo', function() {
  console.log("Foo");
  var Foo = function(name) { this.name = name; };
  Foo.prototype.hello = function() {
    return "Hello from factory instance " + this.name;
  }
  return Foo;
})
base.service('serviceFoo', function() {
  this.hello = function() {
    return "Service says hello";
  }
  return this;
});

var app = angular.module('appModule', []);
app.config(function($provide) {
  var base = angular.injector(['myAppBaseModule']);
  $provide.constant('Foo', base.get('Foo'));
  $provide.constant('serviceFoo', base.get('serviceFoo'));
});
app.controller('appCtrl', function($scope, Foo, serviceFoo) {
  $scope.appHello = (new Foo("app")).hello();
  $scope.serviceHello = serviceFoo.hello();
});

What is a thread exit code?

As Sayse mentioned, exit code 259 (0x103) has special meaning, in this case the process being debugged is still running.

I saw this a lot with debugging web services, because the thread continues to run after executing each web service call (as it is still listening for further calls).

Python - How to cut a string in Python?

Well, to answer the immediate question:

>>> s = "http://www.domain.com/?s=some&two=20"

The rfind method returns the index of right-most substring:

>>> s.rfind("&")
29

You can take all elements up to a given index with the slicing operator:

>>> "foobar"[:4]
'foob'

Putting the two together:

>>> s[:s.rfind("&")]
'http://www.domain.com/?s=some'

If you are dealing with URLs in particular, you might want to use built-in libraries that deal with URLs. If, for example, you wanted to remove two from the above query string:

First, parse the URL as a whole:

>>> import urlparse, urllib
>>> parse_result = urlparse.urlsplit("http://www.domain.com/?s=some&two=20")
>>> parse_result
SplitResult(scheme='http', netloc='www.domain.com', path='/', query='s=some&two=20', fragment='')

Take out just the query string:

>>> query_s = parse_result.query
>>> query_s
's=some&two=20'

Turn it into a dict:

>>> query_d = urlparse.parse_qs(parse_result.query)
>>> query_d
{'s': ['some'], 'two': ['20']}
>>> query_d['s']
['some']
>>> query_d['two']
['20']

Remove the 'two' key from the dict:

>>> del query_d['two']
>>> query_d
{'s': ['some']}

Put it back into a query string:

>>> new_query_s = urllib.urlencode(query_d, True)
>>> new_query_s
's=some'

And now stitch the URL back together:

>>> result = urlparse.urlunsplit((
    parse_result.scheme, parse_result.netloc,
    parse_result.path, new_query_s, parse_result.fragment))
>>> result
'http://www.domain.com/?s=some'

The benefit of this is that you have more control over the URL. Like, if you always wanted to remove the two argument, even if it was put earlier in the query string ("two=20&s=some"), this would still do the right thing. It might be overkill depending on what you want to do.

JQuery string contains check

I use,

var text = "some/String"; text.includes("/") <-- returns bool; true if "/" exists in string, false otherwise.

How can I shutdown Spring task executor/scheduler pools before all other beans in the web app are destroyed?

Two ways:

  1. Have a bean implement ApplicationListener<ContextClosedEvent>. onApplicationEvent() will get called before the context and all the beans are destroyed.

  2. Have a bean implement Lifecycle or SmartLifecycle. stop() will get called before the context and all the beans are destroyed.

Either way you can shut down the task stuff before the bean destroying mechanism takes place.

Eg:

@Component
public class ContextClosedHandler implements ApplicationListener<ContextClosedEvent> {
    @Autowired ThreadPoolTaskExecutor executor;
    @Autowired ThreadPoolTaskScheduler scheduler;

    @Override
    public void onApplicationEvent(ContextClosedEvent event) {
        scheduler.shutdown();
        executor.shutdown();
    }
}

(Edit: Fixed method signature)

Create Elasticsearch curl query for not null and not empty("")

As @luqmaan pointed out in the comments, the documentation says that the filter exists doesn't filter out empty strings as they are considered non-null values.

So adding to @DrTech's answer, to effectively filter null and empty string values out, you should use something like this:

{
    "query" : {
        "constant_score" : {
            "filter" : {
                "bool": {
                    "must": {"exists": {"field": "<your_field_name_here>"}},
                    "must_not": {"term": {"<your_field_name_here>": ""}}
                }
            }
        }
    }
}

python .replace() regex

For this particular case, if using re module is overkill, how about using split (or rsplit) method as

se='</html>'
z.write(article.split(se)[0]+se)

For example,

#!/usr/bin/python

article='''<html>Larala
Ponta Monta
</html>Kurimon
Waff Moff
'''
z=open('out.txt','w')

se='</html>'
z.write(article.split(se)[0]+se)

outputs out.txt as

<html>Larala
Ponta Monta
</html>

What does "<>" mean in Oracle

Does not equal. The opposite of =, equivalent to !=.

Also, for everyone's info, this can return a non-zero number of rows. I see the OP has reformatted his question so it's a bit clearer, but as far as I can tell, this finds records where product ID is among those found in order #605, as is quantity, but it's not actually order #605. If order #605 contains 1 apple, 2 bananas and 3 crayons, #604 should match if it contains 2 apples (but not 3 dogs). It just won't match order #605. (And if ordid is unique, then it would find exact duplicates.)

How to pass variable from jade template file to a script file?

If you're like me and you use this method of passing variables a lot, here's a write-less-code solution.

In your node.js route, pass the variables in an object called window, like this:

router.get('/', function (req, res, next) {
    res.render('index', {
        window: {
            instance: instance
        }
    });
});

Then in your pug/jade layout file (just before the block content), you get them out like this:

if window
    each object, key in window
        script.
            window.!{key} = !{JSON.stringify(object)};

As my layout.pug file gets loaded with each pug file, I don't need to 'import' my variables over and over.

This way all variables/objects passed to window 'magically' end up in the real window object of your browser where you can use them in Reactjs, Angular, ... or vanilla javascript.

What values for checked and selected are false?

The checked and selected attributes are allowed only two values, which are a copy of the attribute name and (from HTML 5 onwards) an empty string. Giving any other value is an error.

If you don't want to set the attribute, then the entire attribute must be omitted.

Note that in HTML 4 you may omit everything except the value. HTML 5 changed this to omit everything except the name (which makes no practical difference).

Thus, the complete (aside from variations in cAsE) set of valid representations of the attribute are:

<input ... checked="checked"> <!-- All versions of HTML / XHTML -->
<input ...          checked > <!-- Only HTML 4.01 and earlier -->
<input ... checked          > <!-- Only HTML 5 and later -->
<input ... checked=""       > <!-- Only HTML 5 and later -->

Documents served as text/html (HTML or XHTML) will be fed through a tag soup parser, and the presence of a checked attribute (with any value) will be treated as "This element should be checked". Thus, while invalid, checked="true", checked="yes", and checked="false" will all trigger the checked state.

I've not had any inclination to find out what error recovery mechanisms are in place for XML parsing mode should a different value be given to the attribute, but I would expect that the legacy of HTML and/or simple error recovery would treat it in the same way: If the attribute is there then the element is checked.

(And all the above applies equally to selected as it does to checked.)

Use PHP Document Object Model:

<?php

   $DOM = new DOMDocument;
   $DOM->loadHTML($str);

This outputs as:

 T1

[EDIT]: After OP Clarification:

If you want the content like Lorem ipsum. etc, you can directly use this regex:

<?php
   $str = '<h1>T1</h1>Lorem ipsum.<h1>T2</h1>The quick red fox...<h1>T3</h1>... jumps over the lazy brown FROG';
   echo preg_replace("#<h1.*?>.*?</h1>#", "", $str);
?>

this outputs:

The problem with your macro is that once you have opened your destination Workbook (xlw in your code sample), it is set as the ActiveWorkbook object and you get an error because TextBox1 doesn't exist in that specific Workbook. To resolve this issue, you could define a reference object to your actual Workbook before opening the other one.

Sub UploadData()
    Dim xlo As New Excel.Application
    Dim xlw As New Excel.Workbook
    Dim myWb as Excel.Workbook

    Set myWb = ActiveWorkbook
    Set xlw = xlo.Workbooks.Open("c:\myworkbook.xlsx")
    xlo.Worksheets(1).Cells(2, 1) = myWb.ActiveSheet.Range("d4").Value
    xlo.Worksheets(1).Cells(2, 2) = myWb.ActiveSheet.TextBox1.Text

    xlw.Save
    xlw.Close
    Set xlo = Nothing
    Set xlw = Nothing
End Sub

If you prefer, you could also use myWb.Activate to put back your main Workbook as active. It will also work if you do it with a Worksheet object. Using one or another mostly depends on what you want to do (if there are multiple sheets, etc.).

How to add 20 minutes to a current date?

Just add 20 minutes in milliseconds to your date:

  var currentDate = new Date();

  currentDate.setTime(currentDate.getTime() + 20*60*1000);

How to increase size of DOSBox window?

Here's how to change the dosbox.conf file in Linux to increase the size of the window. I actually DID what follows, so I can say it works (in 32-bit PCLinuxOS fullmontyKDE, anyway). The question's answer is in the .conf file itself.

You find this file in Linux at /home/(username)/.dosbox . In Konqueror or Dolphin, you must first check 'Hidden files' or you won't see the folder. Open it with KWrite superuser or your fav editor.

  1. Save the file with another name like 'dosbox-0.74original.conf' to preserve the original file in case you need to restore it.
  2. Search on 'resolution' and carefully read what the conf file says about changing it. There are essentially two variables: resolution and output. You want to leave fullresolution alone for now. Your question was about WINDOW, not full. So look for windowresolution, see what the comments in conf file say you can do. The best suggestion is to use a bigger-window resolution like 900x800 (which is what I used on a 1366x768 screen), but NOT the actual resolution of your machine (which would make the window fullscreen, and you said you didn't want that). Be specific, replacing the 'windowresolution=original' with 'windowresolution=900x800' or other dimensions. On my screen, that doubled the window size just as it does with the max Font tab in Windows Properties (for the exe file; as you'll see below the ==== marks, 32-bit Windows doesn't need Dosbox).

Then, search on 'output', and as the instruction in the conf file warns, if and only if you have 'hardware scaling', change the default 'output=surface' to something else; he then lists the optional other settings. I changed it to 'output=overlay'. There's one other setting to test: aspect. Search the file for 'aspect', and change the 'false' to 'true' if you want an even bigger window. When I did this, the window took up over half of the screen. With 'false' left alone, I had a somewhat smaller window (I use widescreen monitors, whether laptop or desktop, maybe that's why).

So after you've made the changes, save the file with the original name of dosbox-0.74.conf . Then, type dosbox at the command line or create a Launcher (in KDE, this is a right click on the desktop) with the command dosbox. You still have to go through the mount command (i.e., mount c~ c:\123 if that's the location and file you'll execute). I'm sure there's a way to make a script, but haven't yet learned how to do that.

Composer Warning: openssl extension is missing. How to enable in WAMP

All those answers are good, but in fact, if you want to understand, the extension directory need to be right if you want all you uncommented extensions to work. Can write a physical or relative path like

extension_dir = "C:/myStack/php/ext"

or

extension_dir = "../../php/ext"

It's relative to the httpd.exe Apache web server (C:\myStack\apache\bin) But if you want it to work with Composer or anything you need the physical path because the cli mode doesn't use the web server !

I'm not cool enough for comments. I fixed the plunker from the accepted answer to work for rc2. Nothing fancy, links to the CDN were just broken is all.

How can I move a tag on a git branch to a different commit?

I try to avoid a few things when using Git.

  1. Using knowledge of the internals, e.g. refs/tags. I try to use solely the documented Git commands and avoid using things which require knowledge of the internal contents of the .git directory. (That is to say, I treat Git as a Git user and not a Git developer.)

  2. The use of force when not required.

  3. Overdoing things. (Pushing a branch and/or lots of tags, to get one tag where I want it.)

So here is my non-violent solution for changing a tag, both locally and remotely, without knowledge of the Git internals.

I use it when a software fix ultimately has a problem and needs to be updated/re-released.

git tag -d fix123 # delete the old local tag
git push github :fix123 # delete the old remote tag (use for each affected remote)
git tag fix123 790a621265 # create a new local tag
git push github fix123 # push new tag to remote (use for each affected remote)

github is a sample remote name, fix123 is a sample tag name, and 790a621265 a sample commit.

What is the best way to prevent session hijacking?

There is no way to prevent session hijaking 100%, but with some approach can we reduce the time for an attacker to hijaking the session.

Method to prevent session hijaking:

1 - always use session with ssl certificate;

2 - send session cookie only with httponly set to true(prevent javascript to access session cookie)

2 - use session regenerate id at login and logout(note: do not use session regenerate at each request because if you have consecutive ajax request then you have a chance to create multiple session.)

3 - set a session timeout

4 - store browser user agent in a $_SESSION variable an compare with $_SERVER['HTTP_USER_AGENT'] at each request

5 - set a token cookie ,and set expiration time of that cookie to 0(until the browser is closed). Regenerate the cookie value for each request.(For ajax request do not regenerate token cookie). EX:

    //set a token cookie if one not exist
    if(!isset($_COOKIE['user_token'])){
                    //generate a random string for cookie value
        $cookie_token = bin2hex(mcrypt_create_iv('16' , MCRYPT_DEV_URANDOM));

        //set a session variable with that random string
        $_SESSION['user_token'] = $cookie_token;
        //set cookie with rand value
        setcookie('user_token', $cookie_token , 0 , '/' , 'donategame.com' , true , true);
    }

    //set a sesison variable with request of www.example.com
    if(!isset($_SESSION['request'])){
        $_SESSION['request'] = -1;
    }
    //increment $_SESSION['request'] with 1 for each request at www.example.com
    $_SESSION['request']++;

    //verify if $_SESSION['user_token'] it's equal with $_COOKIE['user_token'] only for $_SESSION['request'] > 0
    if($_SESSION['request'] > 0){

        // if it's equal then regenerete value of token cookie if not then destroy_session
        if($_SESSION['user_token'] === $_COOKIE['user_token']){
            $cookie_token = bin2hex(mcrypt_create_iv('16' , MCRYPT_DEV_URANDOM));

            $_SESSION['user_token'] = $cookie_token;

            setcookie('user_token', $cookie_token , 0 , '/' , 'donategame.com' , true , true);
        }else{
            //code for session_destroy
        }

    }

            //prevent session hijaking with browser user agent
    if(!isset($_SESSION['user_agent'])){
        $_SESSION['user_agent'] = $_SERVER['HTTP_USER_AGENT'];
    }

    if($_SESSION['user_agent'] != $_SERVER['HTTP_USER_AGENT']){
      die('session hijaking - user agent');
    }

note: do not regenerate token cookie with ajax request note: the code above is an example. note: if users logout then the cookie token must be destroyed as well as the session

6 - it's not a good aproach to use user ip for preventing session hijaking because some users ip change with each request. THAT AFFECT VALID USERS

7 - personally I store session data in database , it's up to you what method you adopt

If you find mistake in my approach please correct me. If you have more ways to prevent session hyjaking please tell me.

Remove part of a string

If you're a Tidyverse kind of person, here's the stringr solution:

R> library(stringr)
R> strings = c("TGAS_1121", "MGAS_1432", "ATGAS_1121")
R> strings %>% str_replace(".*_", "_")
[1] "_1121" "_1432" "_1121"
# Or:
R> strings %>% str_replace("^[A-Z]*", "")
[1] "_1121" "_1432" "_1121"

Make first letter of a string upper case (with maximum performance)

string s_Val = "test";
if (s_Val != "")
{
   s_Val  = char.ToUpper(s_Val[0]);
   if (s_Val.Length > 1)
   {
      s_Val += s_Val.Substring(1);
   }
 }

Remove #N/A in vlookup result

if you are looking to change the colour of the cell in case of vlookup error then go for conditional formatting . To do this go the "CONDITIONAL FORMATTING" > "NEW RULE". In this choose the "Select the rule type" = "Format only cells that contains" . After this the window below changes , in which choose "Error" in the first drop-down .After this proceed accordingly.

How to add a "open git-bash here..." context menu to the windows explorer?

What worked for me was almost this, but with the following REGEDIT path:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Classes/Directory/background/shell and here I created the key Bash, with the value of what I want the display name to be, and then created another key under this named command with the value as the path to git-bash.exe

I'm on Windows 10 and have a fresh git install that didn't add this automatically for some reason (git version 2.12.0 64bit)

Is it bad to have my virtualenv directory inside my git repository?

I use what is basically David Sickmiller's answer with a little more automation. I create a (non-executable) file at the top level of my project named activate with the following contents:

[ -n "$BASH_SOURCE" ] \
    || { echo 1>&2 "source (.) this with Bash."; exit 2; }
(
    cd "$(dirname "$BASH_SOURCE")"
    [ -d .build/virtualenv ] || {
        virtualenv .build/virtualenv
        . .build/virtualenv/bin/activate
        pip install -r requirements.txt
    }
)
. "$(dirname "$BASH_SOURCE")/.build/virtualenv/bin/activate"

(As per David's answer, this assumes you're doing a pip freeze > requirements.txt to keep your list of requirements up to date.)

The above gives the general idea; the actual activate script (documentation) that I normally use is a bit more sophisticated, offering a -q (quiet) option, using python when python3 isn't available, etc.

This can then be sourced from any current working directory and will properly activate, first setting up the virtual environment if necessary. My top-level test script usually has code along these lines so that it can be run without the developer having to activate first:

cd "$(dirname "$0")"
[[ $VIRTUAL_ENV = $(pwd -P) ]] || . ./activate

Sourcing ./activate, not activate, is important here because the latter will find any other activate in your path before it will find the one in the current directory.

What does '&' do in a C++ declaration?

The "&" denotes a reference instead of a pointer to an object (In your case a constant reference).

The advantage of having a function such as

foo(string const& myname)

over

foo(string const* myname)

is that in the former case you are guaranteed that myname is non-null, since C++ does not allow NULL references. Since you are passing by reference, the object is not copied, just like if you were passing a pointer.

Your second example:

const string &GetMethodName() { ... }

Would allow you to return a constant reference to, for example, a member variable. This is useful if you do not wish a copy to be returned, and again be guaranteed that the value returned is non-null. As an example, the following allows you direct, read-only access:

class A
{
  public:
  int bar() const {return someValue;}
  //Big, expensive to copy class
}

class B
{
public:
 A const& getA() { return mA;}
private:
 A mA;
}
void someFunction()
{
 B b = B();
 //Access A, ability to call const functions on A
 //No need to check for null, since reference is guaranteed to be valid.
 int value = b.getA().bar();
}

You have to of course be careful to not return invalid references. Compilers will happily compile the following (depending on your warning level and how you treat warnings)

int const& foo()
{
 int a;

 //This is very bad, returning reference to something on the stack. This will
 //crash at runtime.
 return a;
}

Basically, it is your responsibility to ensure that whatever you are returning a reference to is actually valid.

How to temporarily exit Vim and go back

To extend user Zen's answer, you could add the following line in your ~/.vimrc file to allow quick toggling between Bash and Vim:

noremap <C-d> :sh<cr>

JSON.stringify output to div in pretty print way

use style white-space: pre the <pre> tag also modifies the text format which may be undesirable.

Select columns in PySpark dataframe

The dataset in ss.csv contains some columns I am interested in:

ss_ = spark.read.csv("ss.csv", header= True,
                      inferSchema = True)
ss_.columns
['Reporting Area', 'MMWR Year', 'MMWR Week', 'Salmonellosis (excluding Paratyphoid fever andTyphoid fever)†, Current week', 'Salmonellosis (excluding Paratyphoid fever andTyphoid fever)†, Current week, flag', 'Salmonellosis (excluding Paratyphoid fever andTyphoid fever)†, Previous 52 weeks Med', 'Salmonellosis (excluding Paratyphoid fever andTyphoid fever)†, Previous 52 weeks Med, flag', 'Salmonellosis (excluding Paratyphoid fever andTyphoid fever)†, Previous 52 weeks Max', 'Salmonellosis (excluding Paratyphoid fever andTyphoid fever)†, Previous 52 weeks Max, flag', 'Salmonellosis (excluding Paratyphoid fever andTyphoid fever)†, Cum 2018', 'Salmonellosis (excluding Paratyphoid fever andTyphoid fever)†, Cum 2018, flag', 'Salmonellosis (excluding Paratyphoid fever andTyphoid fever)†, Cum 2017', 'Salmonellosis (excluding Paratyphoid fever andTyphoid fever)†, Cum 2017, flag', 'Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli, Current week', 'Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli, Current week, flag', 'Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli, Previous 52 weeks Med', 'Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli, Previous 52 weeks Med, flag', 'Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli, Previous 52 weeks Max', 'Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli, Previous 52 weeks Max, flag', 'Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli, Cum 2018', 'Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli, Cum 2018, flag', 'Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli, Cum 2017', 'Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli, Cum 2017, flag', 'Shigellosis, Current week', 'Shigellosis, Current week, flag', 'Shigellosis, Previous 52 weeks Med', 'Shigellosis, Previous 52 weeks Med, flag', 'Shigellosis, Previous 52 weeks Max', 'Shigellosis, Previous 52 weeks Max, flag', 'Shigellosis, Cum 2018', 'Shigellosis, Cum 2018, flag', 'Shigellosis, Cum 2017', 'Shigellosis, Cum 2017, flag']

but I only need a few:

columns_lambda = lambda k: k.endswith(', Current week') or k == 'Reporting Area' or k == 'MMWR Year' or  k == 'MMWR Week'

The filter returns the list of desired columns, list is evaluated:

sss = filter(columns_lambda, ss_.columns)
to_keep = list(sss)

the list of desired columns is unpacked as arguments to dataframe select function that return dataset containing only columns in the list:

dfss = ss_.select(*to_keep)
dfss.columns

The result:

['Reporting Area',
 'MMWR Year',
 'MMWR Week',
 'Salmonellosis (excluding Paratyphoid fever andTyphoid fever)†, Current week',
 'Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli, Current week',
 'Shigellosis, Current week']

The df.select() has a complementary pair: http://spark.apache.org/docs/2.4.1/api/python/pyspark.sql.html#pyspark.sql.DataFrame.drop

to drop the list of columns.

Convert a string to datetime in PowerShell

You need to specify the format it already has, in order to parse it:

$InvoiceDate = [datetime]::ParseExact($invoice, "dd-MMM-yy", $null)

Now you can output it in the format you need:

$InvoiceDate.ToString('yyyy-MM-dd')

or

'{0:yyyy-MM-dd}' -f $InvoiceDate

Can I access variables from another file?

I did like what answer above said but although, it didn't worked with me

because I was declaring these variables inside JQuery $( document ).ready()

Is there a JSON equivalent of XQuery/XPath?

Try to using JSPath

JSPath is a domain-specific language (DSL) that enables you to navigate and find data within your JSON documents. Using JSPath, you can select items of JSON in order to retrieve the data they contain.

JSPath for JSON like an XPath for XML.

It is heavily optimized both for Node.js and modern browsers.

Checking if a collection is null or empty in Groovy

!members.find()

I think now the best way to solve this issue is code above. It works since Groovy 1.8.1 http://docs.groovy-lang.org/docs/next/html/groovy-jdk/java/util/Collection.html#find(). Examples:

def lst1 = []
assert !lst1.find()

def lst2 = [null]
assert !lst2.find()

def lst3 = [null,2,null]
assert lst3.find()

def lst4 = [null,null,null]
assert !lst4.find()

def lst5 = [null, 0, 0.0, false, '', [], 42, 43]
assert lst5.find() == 42

def lst6 = null;
assert !lst6.find()

Does React Native styles support gradients?

Here is a good choice for gradients for both platforms iOS and Android:

https://github.com/react-native-community/react-native-linear-gradient

There are others approaches like expo, however react-native-linear-gradient have worked better for me.

  </Text>
</LinearGradient>

// Later on in your styles..
var styles = StyleSheet.create({

    paddingRight: 15,
    borderRadius: 5
  },

How to clone ArrayList and also clone its contents?

I think I found a really easy way to make a deep copy ArrayList. Assuming you want to copy a String ArrayList arrayA.

ArrayList<String>arrayB = new ArrayList<String>();
arrayB.addAll(arrayA);

Let me know if it doesn't work for you.

How do I make the scrollbar on a div only visible when necessary?

Use overflow: auto. Scrollbars will only appear when needed.

(Sidenote, you can also specify for only the x, or y scrollbar: overflow-x: auto and overflow-y: auto).

moving changed files to another branch for check-in

If you haven't already committed your changes, just use git checkout to move to the new branch and then commit them normally - changes to files are not tied to a particular branch until you commit them.

If you have already committed your changes:

  1. Type git log and remember the SHA of the commit you want to move.
  2. Check out the branch you want to move the commit to.
  3. Type git cherry-pick SHA substituting the SHA from above.
  4. Switch back to your original branch.
  5. Use git reset HEAD~1 to reset back before your wrong-branch commit.

cherry-pick takes a given commit and applies it to the currently checked-out head, thus allowing you to copy the commit over to a new branch.

How do I generate a stream from a string?

Add this to a static string utility class:

public static Stream ToStream(this string str)
{
    MemoryStream stream = new MemoryStream();
    StreamWriter writer = new StreamWriter(stream);
    writer.Write(str);
    writer.Flush();
    stream.Position = 0;
    return stream;
}

This adds an extension function so you can simply:

using (var stringStream = "My string".ToStream())
{
    // use stringStream
}

UTF-8 output from PowerShell

Spent some time working on a solution to my issue and thought it may be of interest. I ran into a problem trying to automate code generation using PowerShell 3.0 on Windows 8. The target IDE was the Keil compiler using MDK-ARM Essential Toolchain 5.24.1. A bit different from OP, as I am using PowerShell natively during the pre-build step. When I tried to #include the generated file, I received the error

fatal error: UTF-16 (LE) byte order mark detected '..\GITVersion.h' but encoding is not supported

I solved the problem by changing the line that generated the output file from:

out-file -FilePath GITVersion.h -InputObject $result

to:

out-file -FilePath GITVersion.h -Encoding ascii -InputObject $result

Hive insert query like SQL

you can add values to specific columns as well, just specify the column names in which you like to add corresponding values:

Insert into Table (Col1, Col2, Col4,col5,Col7) Values ('Va11','Va2','Val4','Val5','Val7');

Make sure the columns you skip dont have not null value type.

Remove URL parameters without refreshing page

I wanted to remove only one param success. Here's how you can do this:

let params = new URLSearchParams(location.search)
params.delete('success')
history.replaceState(null, '', '?' + params + location.hash)

This also retains #hash.

URLSearchParams won't work on IE, but being worked on for Edge. You can use a polyfill or a could use a naïve helper function for IE-support:

function take_param(key) {
    var params = new Map(location.search.slice(1).split('&')
        .map(function(p) { return p.split(/=(.*)/) }))
    var value = params.get(key)
    params.delete(key)
    var search = Array.from(params.entries()).map(
        function(v){ return v[0]+'='+v[1] }).join('&')
    return {search: search ? '?' + search : '', value: value}
}

This can be used like:

history.replaceState(
    null, '', take_param('success').search + location.hash)

Failed to build gem native extension — Rails install

mkmf is part of the ruby1.9.1-dev package. This package contains the header files needed for extension libraries for Ruby 1.9.1. You need to install the ruby1.9.1-dev package by doing:

sudo apt-get install ruby1.9.1-dev

Then you can install Rails as per normal.

Generally it's easier to just do:

sudo apt-get install ruby-dev

How can a file be copied?

For large files, what I did was read the file line by line and read each line into an array. Then, once the array reached a certain size, append it to a new file.

    list.append(line)

How to filter input type="file" dialog by specific file type?

You can use the accept attribute along with the . It doesn't work in IE and Safari.

Depending on your project scale and extensibility, you could use Struts. Struts offers two ways to limit the uploaded file type, declaratively and programmatically.

For more information: http://struts.apache.org/2.0.14/docs/file-upload.html#FileUpload-FileTypes

Pass multiple optional parameters to a C# function

1.You can make overload functions.

SomeF(string s, string s2){}
SomeF(string s1, string s2, string s3){}

2.or you may create one function with params

SomeF( params string[] paramArray){}
SomeF("aa","bb", "cc", "dd", "ff"); // pass as many as you like

3.or you can use simple array

Main(string[] args){}

Click to call html

tl;dr What to do in modern (2018) times? Assume tel: is supported, use it and forget about anything else.

The tel: URI scheme RFC5431 (as well as sms: but also feed:, maps:, youtube: and others) is handled by protocol handlers (as mailto: and http: are).

They're unrelated to HTML5 specification (it has been out there from 90s and documented first time back in 2k with RFC2806) then you can't check for their support using tools as modernizr. A protocol handler may be installed by an application (for example Skype installs a callto: protocol handler with same meaning and behaviour of tel: but it's not a standard), natively supported by browser or installed (with some limitations) by website itself.

What HTML5 added is support for installing custom web based protocol handlers (with registerProtocolHandler() and related functions) simplifying also the check for their support through isProtocolHandlerRegistered() function.

There is some easy ways to determine if there is an handler or not:" How to detect browser's protocol handlers?).

In general what I suggest is:

  1. If you're running on a mobile device then you can safely assume tel: is supported (yes, it's not true for very old devices but IMO you can ignore them).
  2. If JS isn't active then do nothing.
  3. If you're running on desktop browsers then you can use one of the techniques in the linked post to determine if it's supported.
  4. If tel: isn't supported then change links to use callto: and repeat check desctibed in 3.
  5. If tel: and callto: aren't supported (or - in a desktop browser - you can't detect their support) then simply remove that link replacing URL in href with javascript:void(0) and (if number isn't repeated in text span) putting, telephone number in title. Here HTML5 microdata won't help users (just search engines). Note that newer versions of Skype handle both callto: and tel:.

Please note that (at least on latest Windows versions) there is always a - fake - registered protocol handler called App Picker (that annoying window that let you choose with which application you want to open an unknown file). This may vanish your tests so if you don't want to handle Windows environment as a special case you can simplify this process as:

  1. If you're running on a mobile device then assume tel: is supported.
  2. If you're running on desktop then replace tel: with callto:. then drop tel: or leave it as is (assuming there are good chances Skype is installed).

Redirect HTTP to HTTPS on default virtual host without ServerName

This is the complete way to omit unneeded redirects, too ;)

These rules are intended to be used in .htaccess files, as a RewriteRule in a *:80 VirtualHost entry needs no Conditions.

RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{HTTPS} off [OR]
RewriteCond %{HTTP:X-Forwarded-Proto} !https
RewriteRule ^/(.*) https://%{HTTP_HOST}/$1 [NC,R=301,L]

Eplanations:

RewriteEngine on

==> enable the engine at all

RewriteCond %{HTTPS} off [OR]

==> match on non-https connections, or (not setting [OR] would cause an implicit AND !)

RewriteCond %{HTTP:X-Forwarded-Proto} !https

==> match on forwarded connections (proxy, loadbalancer, etc.) without https

RewriteRule ^/(.*) https://%{HTTP_HOST}/$1 [NC,R=301,L]

==> if one of both Conditions match, do the rewrite of the whole URL, sending a 301 to have this 'learned' by the client (some do, some don't) and the L for the last rule.

Is PowerShell ready to replace my Cygwin shell on Windows?

There are lots of great great answers here, and here is my take. PowerShell is ready if you are... Examples:

grep = "Select-String -Pattern"

sort = "Sort-Object"

uniq = "Get-Unique"

file = "Get-Item"

cat = "Get-Content"

Perl/AWK/Sed are not commands, but utilities hence hard to compare, but you can do almost everything in PowerShell.

check the null terminating character in char*

Your '/0' should be '\0' .. you got the slash reversed/leaning the wrong way. Your while should look like:

while (*(forward++)!='\0')

though the != '\0' part of your expression is optional here since the loop will continue as long as it evaluates to non-zero (null is considered zero and will terminate the loop).

All "special" characters (i.e., escape sequences for non-printable characters) use a backward slash, such as tab '\t', or newline '\n', and the same for null '\0' so it's easy to remember.

How to implement infinity in Java?

I'm supposing you're using integer math for a reason. If so, you can get a result that's functionally nearly the same as POSITIVE_INFINITY by using the MAX_VALUE field of the Integer class:

Integer myInf = Integer.MAX_VALUE;

(And for NEGATIVE_INFINITY you could use MIN_VALUE.) There will of course be some functional differences, e.g., when comparing myInf to a value that happens to be MAX_VALUE: clearly this number isn't less than myInf. Also, as noted in the comments below, incrementing positive infinity will wrap you back around to negative numbers (and decrementing negative infinity will wrap you back to positive).

There's also a library that actually has fields POSITIVE_INFINITY and NEGATIVE_INFINITY, but they are really just new names for MAX_VALUE and MIN_VALUE.

What is the difference between CMD and ENTRYPOINT in a Dockerfile?

I run across this and at the beginning I found it really confusing to be honest and I think this confusion comes from using the word "CMD" because in fact what goes there acts as argument. So after digging a little bit I understood how it works. Basically:

ENTRYPOINT --> what you specify here would be the command to be executed when you container starts. If you omit this definition docker will use /bin/sh -c bash to run your container.

CMD --> these are the arguments appended to the ENTRYPOINT unless the user specifies some custom argument, i.e: docker run ubuntu <custom_cmd> in this case instead of appending what's specified on the image in the CMD section, docker will run ENTRYPOINT <custom_cmd>. In case ENTRYPOINT has not been specified, what goes here will be passed to /bin/sh -c acting in fact as the command to be executed when starting the container.

As everything it's better to explain what's going on by examples. So let's say I create a simple docker image by using the following specification Dockerfile:

From ubuntu
ENTRYPOINT ["sleep"]

Then I build it by running the following:

docker build . -t testimg

This will create a container that everytime you run it sleeps. So If I run it as following:

docker run testimg

I'll get the following:

sleep: missing operand
Try 'sleep --help' for more information.

This happens because the entry point is the "sleep" command which needs an argument. So to fix this I'll just provide the amount to sleep:

docker run testimg 5

This will run correctly and as consequence the container will run, sleeps 5 seconds and exits. As we can see in this example docker just appended what goes after the image name to the entry point binary docker run testimg <my_cmd>. What happens if we want to pass a default value (default argument) to the entry point? in this case we just need to specify it in the CMD section, for example:

From ubuntu
ENTRYPOINT ["sleep"]
CMD ["10"]

In this case if the user doesn't pass any argument the container will use the default value (10) and pass it to entry point sleep.

Now let's use just CMD and omit ENTRYPOINT definition:

FROM ubuntu
CMD ["sleep", "5"]

If we rebuild and run this image it will basically sleeps for 5 seconds.

So in summary, you can use ENTRYPOINT in order to make your container acts as an executable. You can use CMD to provide default arguments to your entry point or to run a custom command when starting your container that can be overridden from outside by user.

Artificially create a connection timeout error

How about a software solution:

Install SSH server on the application server. Then, use socket tunnel to create a link between your local port and the remote port on the application server. You can use ssh client tools to do so. Have your client application connect to your mapped local port instead. Then, you can break the socket tunnel at will to simulate the connection timeout.

Convert dictionary values into array

These days, once you have LINQ available, you can convert the dictionary keys and their values to a single string.

You can use the following code:

// convert the dictionary to an array of strings
string[] strArray = dict.Select(x => ("Key: " + x.Key + ", Value: " + x.Value)).ToArray();

// convert a string array to a single string
string result = String.Join(", ", strArray);

Difference between shared objects (.so), static libraries (.a), and DLL's (.so)?

I can elaborate on the details of DLLs in Windows to help clarify those mysteries to my friends here in *NIX-land...

A DLL is like a Shared Object file. Both are images, ready to load into memory by the program loader of the respective OS. The images are accompanied by various bits of metadata to help linkers and loaders make the necessary associations and use the library of code.

Windows DLLs have an export table. The exports can be by name, or by table position (numeric). The latter method is considered "old school" and is much more fragile -- rebuilding the DLL and changing the position of a function in the table will end in disaster, whereas there is no real issue if linking of entry points is by name. So, forget that as an issue, but just be aware it's there if you work with "dinosaur" code such as 3rd-party vendor libs.

Windows DLLs are built by compiling and linking, just as you would for an EXE (executable application), but the DLL is meant to not stand alone, just like an SO is meant to be used by an application, either via dynamic loading, or by link-time binding (the reference to the SO is embedded in the application binary's metadata, and the OS program loader will auto-load the referenced SO's). DLLs can reference other DLLs, just as SOs can reference other SOs.

In Windows, DLLs will make available only specific entry points. These are called "exports". The developer can either use a special compiler keyword to make a symbol an externally-visible (to other linkers and the dynamic loader), or the exports can be listed in a module-definition file which is used at link time when the DLL itself is being created. The modern practice is to decorate the function definition with the keyword to export the symbol name. It is also possible to create header files with keywords which will declare that symbol as one to be imported from a DLL outside the current compilation unit. Look up the keywords __declspec(dllexport) and __declspec(dllimport) for more information.

One of the interesting features of DLLs is that they can declare a standard "upon load/unload" handler function. Whenever the DLL is loaded or unloaded, the DLL can perform some initialization or cleanup, as the case may be. This maps nicely into having a DLL as an object-oriented resource manager, such as a device driver or shared object interface.

When a developer wants to use an already-built DLL, she must either reference an "export library" (*.LIB) created by the DLL developer when she created the DLL, or she must explicitly load the DLL at run time and request the entry point address by name via the LoadLibrary() and GetProcAddress() mechanisms. Most of the time, linking against a LIB file (which simply contains the linker metadata for the DLL's exported entry points) is the way DLLs get used. Dynamic loading is reserved typically for implementing "polymorphism" or "runtime configurability" in program behaviors (accessing add-ons or later-defined functionality, aka "plugins").

The Windows way of doing things can cause some confusion at times; the system uses the .LIB extension to refer to both normal static libraries (archives, like POSIX *.a files) and to the "export stub" libraries needed to bind an application to a DLL at link time. So, one should always look to see if a *.LIB file has a same-named *.DLL file; if not, chances are good that *.LIB file is a static library archive, and not export binding metadata for a DLL.

How to find EOF through fscanf?

If you have integers in your file fscanf returns 1 until integer occurs. For example:

FILE *in = fopen("./task.in", "r");
int length = 0;
int counter;
int sequence;

for ( int i = 0; i < 10; i++ ) {
    counter = fscanf(in, "%d", &sequence);
    if ( counter == 1 ) {
        length += 1;
    }
}

To find out the end of the file with symbols you can use EOF. For example:

char symbol;
FILE *in = fopen("./task.in", "r");

for ( ; fscanf(in, "%c", &symbol) != EOF; ) {
    printf("%c", symbol);
}

How to $http Synchronous call with AngularJS

Since sync XHR is being deprecated, it's best not to rely on that. If you need to do a sync POST request, you can use the following helpers inside of a service to simulate a form post.

It works by creating a form with hidden inputs which is posted to the specified URL.

//Helper to create a hidden input
function createInput(name, value) {
  return angular
    .element('<input/>')
    .attr('type', 'hidden')
    .attr('name', name)
    .val(value);
}

//Post data
function post(url, data, params) {

    //Ensure data and params are an object
    data = data || {};
    params = params || {};

    //Serialize params
    const serialized = $httpParamSerializer(params);
    const query = serialized ? `?${serialized}` : '';

    //Create form
    const $form = angular
        .element('<form/>')
        .attr('action', `${url}${query}`)
        .attr('enctype', 'application/x-www-form-urlencoded')
        .attr('method', 'post');

    //Create hidden input data
    for (const key in data) {
        if (data.hasOwnProperty(key)) {
            const value = data[key];
            if (Array.isArray(value)) {
                for (const val of value) {
                    const $input = createInput(`${key}[]`, val);
                    $form.append($input);
                }
            }
            else {
                const $input = createInput(key, value);
                $form.append($input);
            }
        }
    }

    //Append form to body and submit
    angular.element(document).find('body').append($form);
    $form[0].submit();
    $form.remove();
}

object==null or null==object?

Compare with the following code:

    String pingResult = "asd";
    long s = System.nanoTime ( );
    if ( null != pingResult )
    {
        System.out.println ( "null != pingResult" );
    }
    long e = System.nanoTime ( );
    System.out.println ( e - s );

    long s1 = System.nanoTime ( );
    if ( pingResult != null )
    {
        System.out.println ( "pingResult != null" );
    }
    long e1 = System.nanoTime ( );
    System.out.println ( e1 - s1 );

Output (After multiple executions):

null != pingResult
325737
pingResult != null
47027

Therefore, pingResult != null is the winner.

How to insert DECIMAL into MySQL database

I noticed something else about your coding.... look

INSERT INTO reports_services (id,title,description,cost) VALUES (0, 'test title', 'test decription ', '3.80')

in your "CREATE TABLE" code you have the id set to "AUTO_INCREMENT" which means it's automatically generating a result for that field.... but in your above code you include it as one of the insertions and in the "VALUES" you have a 0 there... idk if that's your way of telling us you left it blank because it's set to AUTO_INC. or if that's the actual code you have... if it's the code you have not only should you not be trying to send data to a field set to generate it automatically, but the RIGHT WAY to do it WRONG would be

'0',

you put

0,

lol....so that might be causing some of the problem... I also just noticed in the code after "test description" you have a space before the '.... that might be throwing something off too.... idk.. I hope this helps n maybe resolves some other problem you might be pulling your hair out about now.... speaking of which.... I need to figure out my problem before I tear all my hair out..... good luck.. :)

UPDATE.....

I almost forgot... if you have the 0 there to show that it's blank... you could be entering "test title" as the id and "test description" as the title then "3.whatever cents" for the description leaving "cost" empty...... which could be why it maxed out because if I'm not mistaking you have it set to NOT NULL.... and you left it null... so it forced something... maybe.... lol

Can't find file executable in your configured search path for gnc gcc compiler

I had also found this error but I have solved this problem by easy steps. If you want to solve this problem follow these steps:

Step 1: First start code block

Step 2: Go to menu bar and click on the Setting menu

Step 3: After that click on the Compiler option

Step 4: Now, a pop up window will be opened. In this window, select "GNU GCC COMPILER"

Step 5: Now go to the toolchain executables tab and select the compiler installation directory like (C:\Program Files (x86)\CodeBlocks\MinGW\bin)

Step 6: Click on the Ok.

enter image description here

Now you can remove this error by follow these steps. Sometimes you don't need to select bin folder. You need to select only (C:\Program Files (x86)\CodeBlocks\MinGW) this path but some system doesn't work this path. That's why you have to select path from C:/ to bin folder.

Thank you.

I had the same problem with Firefox 30 + Selenium 2.49 + Ubuntu 15.04.

It worked fine with Ubuntu 14 but after upgrade to 15.04 I got same RANDR warning and problem at starting Firefox using Xfvb.

After adding +extension RANDR it worked again.

$ vim /etc/init/xvfb.conf

#!upstart
description "Xvfb Server as a daemon"

start on filesystem and started networking
stop on shutdown

respawn

env XVFB=/usr/bin/Xvfb
env XVFBARGS=":10 -screen 1 1024x768x24 -ac +extension GLX +extension RANDR +render -noreset"
env PIDFILE=/var/run/xvfb.pid

exec start-stop-daemon --start --quiet --make-pidfile --pidfile $PIDFILE --exec $XVFB -- $XVFBARGS >> /var/log/xvfb.log 2>&1

How to rename HTML "browse" button of an input type=file?

Here is the best, simple, short and clean way to "rename" the text of an input with file type and without JQuery, with pure HTML and javascript:

<input id='browse' type='file' style='width:0px'>
<button id='browser' onclick='browse.click()'>
    *The text you want*
</button>

Read from a gzip file in python

Try gzipping some data through the gzip libary like this...

import gzip
content = "Lots of content here"
f = gzip.open('Onlyfinnaly.log.gz', 'wb')
f.write(content)
f.close()

... then run your code as posted ...

import gzip
f=gzip.open('Onlyfinnaly.log.gz','rb')
file_content=f.read()
print file_content

This method worked for me as for some reason the gzip library fails to read some files.

Getting Git to work with a proxy server - fails with "Request timed out"

As an alternative to using git config --global http.proxy address:port, you can set the proxy on the command line:

git -c "http.proxy=address:port" clone https://...

The advantage is the proxy is not persistently set. Under Bash you might set an alias:

alias git-proxy='git -c "http.proxy=address:port"'

Android Studio: Drawable Folder: How to put Images for Multiple dpi?

You don't create subfolders of the drawable folder but rather 'sibling' folders next to it under the /res folder for the different screen densities or screen sizes. The /drawable folder (without any dimension) is mostly used for drawables that don't relate to any screen sizes like selectors.

See this screenshot (use the name drawable-hdpi instead of mipmap-hdpi):

What is the 'open' keyword in Swift?

Read open as

open for inheritance in other modules

I repeat open for inheritance in other modules. So an open class is open for subclassing in other modules that include the defining module. Open vars and functions are open for overriding in other modules. Its the least restrictive access level. It is as good as public access except that something that is public is closed for inheritance in other modules.

From Apple Docs:

Open access applies only to classes and class members, and it differs from public access as follows:

  1. Classes with public access, or any more restrictive access level, can be subclassed only within the module where they’re defined.

  2. Class members with public access, or any more restrictive access level, can be overridden by subclasses only within the module where they’re defined.

  3. Open classes can be subclassed within the module where they’re defined, and within any module that imports the module where they’re defined.

  4. Open class members can be overridden by subclasses within the module where they’re defined, and within any module that imports the module where they’re defined.

How to list the files in current directory?

There is nothing wrong with your code. It should list all of the files and directories directly contained by the nominated directory.

The problem is most likely one of the following:

  • The "." directory is not what you expect it to be. The "." pathname actually means the "current directory" or "working directory" for the JVM. You can verify what directory "." actually is by printing out dir.getCanonicalPath().

  • You are misunderstanding what dir.listFiles() returns. It doesn't return all objects in the tree beneath dir. It only returns objects (files, directories, symlinks, etc) that are directly in dir.

The ".classpath" file suggests that you are looking at an Eclipse project directory, and Eclipse projects are normally configured with the Java files in a subdirectory such as "./src". I wouldn't expect to see any Java source code in the "." directory.

Can anyone explain to me why src isn't the current folder?"

Assuming that you are launching an application in Eclipse, then the current folder defaults to the project directory. You can change the default current directory via one of the panels in the Launcher configuration wizard.

How do I convert a Python 3 byte-string variable into a regular string?

How to filter (skip) non-UTF8 charachers from array?

To address this comment in @uname01's post and the OP, ignore the errors:

Code

>>> b'\x80abc'.decode("utf-8", errors="ignore")
'abc'

Details

From the docs, here are more examples using the same errors parameter:

>>> b'\x80abc'.decode("utf-8", "replace")
'\ufffdabc'
>>> b'\x80abc'.decode("utf-8", "backslashreplace")
'\\x80abc'
>>> b'\x80abc'.decode("utf-8", "strict")
Traceback (most recent call last):
    ...
UnicodeDecodeError: 'utf-8' codec can't decode byte 0x80 in position 0:
  invalid start byte

The errors argument specifies the response when the input string can’t be converted according to the encoding’s rules. Legal values for this argument are 'strict' (raise a UnicodeDecodeError exception), 'replace' (use U+FFFD, REPLACEMENT CHARACTER), or 'ignore' (just leave the character out of the Unicode result).

How do I get a computer's name and IP address using VB.NET?

Thanks Shuwaiee

I made a slight change though as using it in a Private Sub already.

Dim GetIPAddress()

Dim strHostName As String

Dim strIPAddress As String

strHostName = System.Net.Dns.GetHostName()

strIPAddress = System.Net.Dns.GetHostByName(strHostName).AddressList(0).ToString()

MessageBox.Show("Host Name: " & strHostName & vbCrLf & "IP Address: " & strIPAddress)

But also made a change to the way the details are displayed so that they can show on seperate lines using & vbCrLf &

MessageBox.Show("Host Name: " & strHostName & vbCrLf & "IP Address: " & strIPAddress)

Hope this helps someone.
