Python Socket Receive Large Amount of Data

You can do it using Serialization

        return json.loads(data)
    except ValueError:
        continue

def sendall(conn):
    conn.sendall(json.dumps(data))

How to test an SQL Update statement before running it?

Autocommit OFF ...

MySQL

set autocommit=0;

It sets the autommit off for the current session.

You execute your statement, see what it has changed, and then rollback if it's wrong or commit if it's what you expected !

EDIT: The benefit of using transactions instead of running select query is that you can check the resulting set easierly.

Unsetting array values in a foreach loop

Sorry for the late response, I recently had the same problem with PHP and found out that when working with arrays that do not use $key => $value structure, when using the foreach loop you actual copy the value of the position on the loop variable, in this case $image. Try using this code and it will fix your problem.

for ($i=0; $i < count($images[1]); $i++)
{

    if($images[1][$i] == 'http://i27.tinypic.com/29yk345.gif' ||

    $images[1][$i] == 'http://img3.abload.de/img/10nx2340fhco.gif' ||

    $images[1][$i] == 'http://i42.tinypic.com/9pp2456x.gif')

    {

        unset($images[1][$i]);

    }

}

var_dump($images);die();

Java: splitting the filename into a base and extension

Old question but I usually use this solution:

import org.apache.commons.io.FilenameUtils;

String fileName = "/abc/defg/file.txt";

String basename = FilenameUtils.getBaseName(fileName);
String extension = FilenameUtils.getExtension(fileName);
System.out.println(basename); // file
System.out.println(extension); // txt (NOT ".txt" !)

TypeError: string indices must be integers, not str // working with dict

time1 is the key of the most outer dictionary, eg, feb2012. So then you're trying to index the string, but you can only do this with integers. I think what you wanted was:

for info in courses[time1][course]:

As you're going through each dictionary, you must add another nest.

How do I open a new window using jQuery?

It's not really something you need jQuery to do. There is a very simple plain old javascript method for doing this:

window.open('http://www.google.com','GoogleWindow', 'width=800, height=600');

That's it.

The first arg is the url, the second is the name of the window, this should be specified because IE will throw a fit about trying to use window.opener later if there was no window name specified (just a little FYI), and the last two params are width/height.

EDIT: Full specification can be found in the link mmmshuddup provided.

Set initially selected item in Select list in Angular2

Update to angular 4.X.X, there is a new way to mark an option selected:

<select [compareWith]="byId" [(ngModel)]="selectedItem">
  <option *ngFor="let item of items" [ngValue]="item">{{item.name}}
  </option>
</select>

byId(item1: ItemModel, item2: ItemModel) {
  return item1.id === item2.id;
}

Why doesn't Java offer operator overloading?

Check out Boost.Units: link text

It provides zero-overhead Dimensional analysis through operator overloading. How much clearer can this get?

quantity<length>    dx = 2.0*meter;
quantity<energy>    E = F * dx;
std::cout << "Energy = " << E << endl;

would actually output "Energy = 4 J" which is correct.

How to find SQL Server running port?

AngularJS : Difference between the $observe and $watch methods

Why is $observe different than $watch?

The watchExpression is evaluated and compared to the previous value each digest() cycle, if there's a change in the watchExpression value, the watch function is called.

$observe is specific to watching for interpolated values. If a directive's attribute value is interpolated, eg dir-attr="{{ scopeVar }}", the observe function will only be called when the interpolated value is set (and therefore when $digest has already determined updates need to be made). Basically there's already a watcher for the interpolation, and the $observe function piggybacks off that.

See $observe & $set in compile.js

How to find my php-fpm.sock?

I know this is old questions but since I too have the same problem just now and found out the answer, thought I might share it. The problem was due to configuration at pood.d/ directory.

Open

/etc/php5/fpm/pool.d/www.conf

find

listen = 127.0.0.1:9000

change to

listen = /var/run/php5-fpm.sock

Restart both nginx and php5-fpm service afterwards and check if php5-fpm.sock already created.

Best way to select random rows PostgreSQL

Given your specifications (plus additional info in the comments),

  • You have a numeric ID column (integer numbers) with only few (or moderately few) gaps.
  • Obviously no or few write operations.
  • Your ID column has to be indexed! A primary key serves nicely.

The query below does not need a sequential scan of the big table, only an index scan.

First, get estimates for the main query:

SELECT count(*) AS ct -- optional
     , min(id)  AS min_id
     , max(id)  AS max_id
     , max(id) - min(id) AS id_span
FROM   big;

The only possibly expensive part is the count(*) (for huge tables). Given above specifications, you don't need it. An estimate will do just fine, available at almost no cost (detailed explanation here):

SELECT reltuples AS ct FROM pg_class WHERE oid = 'schema_name.big'::regclass;

As long as ct isn't much smaller than id_span, the query will outperform other approaches.

WITH params AS (
    SELECT 1 AS min_id -- minimum id <= current min id
         , 5100000 AS id_span          -- rounded up. (max_id - min_id + buffer)
    )
SELECT *
FROM  (
    SELECT p.min_id + trunc(random() * p.id_span)::integer AS id
    FROM   params p
          ,generate_series(1, 1100) g  -- 1000 + buffer
    GROUP BY 1 -- trim duplicates
    ) r
JOIN   big USING (id)
LIMIT  1000;                           -- trim surplus
  • Generate random numbers in the id space. You have "few gaps", so add 10 % (enough to easily cover the blanks) to the number of rows to retrieve.

  • Each id can be picked multiple times by chance (though very unlikely with a big id space), so group the generated numbers (or use DISTINCT).

  • Join the ids to the big table. This should be very fast with the index in place.

  • Finally trim surplus ids that have not been eaten by dupes and gaps. Every row has a completely equal chance to be picked.

Short version

You can simplify this query. The CTE in the query above is just for educational purposes:

SELECT *
FROM  (
    SELECT DISTINCT 1 + trunc(random() * 5100000)::integer AS id
    FROM   generate_series(1, 1100) g
    ) r
JOIN   big USING (id)
LIMIT  1000;

Refine with rCTE

Especially if you are not so sure about gaps and estimates.

WITH RECURSIVE random_pick AS (
   SELECT *
   FROM  (
      SELECT 1 + trunc(random() * 5100000)::int AS id
      FROM   generate_series(1, 1030)  -- 1000 + few percent - adapt to your needs
      LIMIT 1030 -- hint for query planner
      ) r
   JOIN big b USING (id) -- eliminate miss

   UNION                               -- eliminate dupe
   SELECT b.*
   FROM  (
      SELECT 1 + trunc(random() * 5100000)::int AS id
      FROM   random_pick r             -- plus 3 percent - adapt to your needs
      LIMIT 999 -- less than 1000, hint for query planner
      ) r
   JOIN big b USING (id) -- eliminate miss
   )
SELECT *
FROM   random_pick
LIMIT  1000;  -- actual limit

We can work with a smaller surplus in the base query. If there are too many gaps so we don't find enough rows in the first iteration, the rCTE continues to iterate with the recursive term. We still need relatively few gaps in the ID space or the recursion may run dry before the limit is reached - or we have to start with a large enough buffer which defies the purpose of optimizing performance.

Duplicates are eliminated by the UNION in the rCTE.

The outer LIMIT makes the CTE stop as soon as we have enough rows.

This query is carefully drafted to use the available index, generate actually random rows and not stop until we fulfill the limit (unless the recursion runs dry). There are a number of pitfalls here if you are going to rewrite it.

Wrap into function

For repeated use with varying parameters:

CREATE OR REPLACE FUNCTION f_random_sample(_limit int = 1000, _gaps real = 1.03)
  RETURNS SETOF big AS
$func$
DECLARE
   _surplus  int := _limit * _gaps;
   _estimate int := ( -- get current estimate from system
      SELECT c.reltuples * _gaps
      FROM   pg_class c
      WHERE  c.oid = 'big'::regclass);
BEGIN

   RETURN QUERY
   WITH RECURSIVE random_pick AS (
      SELECT *
      FROM  (
         SELECT 1 + trunc(random() * _estimate)::int
         FROM   generate_series(1, _surplus) g
         LIMIT _surplus -- hint for query planner
         ) r (id)
      JOIN big USING (id) -- eliminate misses

      UNION                        -- eliminate dupes
      SELECT *
      FROM  (
         SELECT 1 + trunc(random() * _estimate)::int
         FROM random_pick -- just to make it recursive
         LIMIT _limit -- hint for query planner
         ) r (id)
      JOIN big USING (id) -- eliminate misses
   )
   SELECT *
   FROM   random_pick
   LIMIT  _limit;
END
$func$  LANGUAGE plpgsql VOLATILE ROWS 1000;

Call:

SELECT * FROM f_random_sample();
SELECT * FROM f_random_sample(500, 1.05);

You could even make this generic to work for any table: Take the name of the PK column and the table as polymorphic type and use EXECUTE ... But that's beyond the scope of this question. See:

Possible alternative

IF your requirements allow identical sets for repeated calls (and we are talking about repeated calls) I would consider a materialized view. Execute above query once and write the result to a table. Users get a quasi random selection at lightening speed. Refresh your random pick at intervals or events of your choosing.

Postgres 9.5 introduces TABLESAMPLE SYSTEM (n)

Where n is a percentage. The manual:

The BERNOULLI and SYSTEM sampling methods each accept a single argument which is the fraction of the table to sample, expressed as a percentage between 0 and 100. This argument can be any real-valued expression.

Bold emphasis mine. It's very fast, but the result is not exactly random. The manual again:

The SYSTEM method is significantly faster than the BERNOULLI method when small sampling percentages are specified, but it may return a less-random sample of the table as a result of clustering effects.

The number of rows returned can vary wildly. For our example, to get roughly 1000 rows:

SELECT * FROM big TABLESAMPLE SYSTEM ((1000 * 100) / 5100000.0);

Related:

Or install the additional module tsm_system_rows to get the number of requested rows exactly (if there are enough) and allow for the more convenient syntax:

SELECT * FROM big TABLESAMPLE SYSTEM_ROWS(1000);

See Evan's answer for details.

But that's still not exactly random.

Getting Git to work with a proxy server - fails with "Request timed out"

I work on Windows XP at work(state/gov), so I did my research and found this here and it worked for me. Hope this helps :)

The http_proxy Environment Variable

If you use a proxy server or firewall, you may need to set the http_proxy environment variable in order to access some url from commandline. Example : Installing ppm for perl or applying rpm in linux ,updating ubuntu

Set the http_proxy variable with the hostname or IP address of the proxy server: http_proxy=http:// [proxy.example.org]

If the proxy server requires a user name and password, include them in the following form: http_proxy=http:// [username:[email protected]]

If the proxy server uses a port other than 80, include the port number: http_proxy=http:// [username:[email protected]:8080]

Windows XP

  1. Open the Control Panel and click the System icon.
  2. On the Advanced tab, click on Environment Variables.
  3. Click New in the System variables panel.
  4. Add http_proxy with the appropriate proxy information (see examples above).

Linux, Solaris or HP-UX

Set the http_proxy environment variable using the command specific to your shell (e.g. set or export). To make this change persistent, add the command to the appropriate profile file for the shell. For example, in bash, add a line like the following to your .bash_profile or .bashrc file:

  1. http_proxy=http:// [username:password@hostname:port];
  2. export $http_proxy

Javascript reduce() on Object

One option would be to reduce the keys():

var o = {
    a: {value:1},
    b: {value:2},
    c: {value:3}
};

Object.keys(o).reduce(function (previous, key) {
    return previous + o[key].value;
}, 0);

With this, you'll want to specify an initial value or the 1st round will be 'a' + 2.

If you want the result as an Object ({ value: ... }), you'll have to initialize and return the object each time:

Object.keys(o).reduce(function (previous, key) {
    previous.value += o[key].value;
    return previous;
}, { value: 0 });

IEnumerable<object> a = new IEnumerable<object>(); Can I do this?

I wanted to create a new enumerable object or list and be able to add to it.

This comment changes everything. You can't add to a generic IEnumerable<T>. If you want to stay with the interfaces in System.Collections.Generic, you need to use a class that implements ICollection<T> like List<T>.

ASP.NET postback with JavaScript

Here is a complete solution

Entire form tag of the asp.net page

<form id="form1" runat="server">
    <asp:LinkButton ID="LinkButton1" runat="server" /> <%-- included to force __doPostBack javascript function to be rendered --%>

    <input type="button" id="Button45" name="Button45" onclick="javascript:__doPostBack('ButtonA','')" value="clicking this will run ButtonA.Click Event Handler" /><br /><br />
    <input type="button" id="Button46" name="Button46" onclick="javascript:__doPostBack('ButtonB','')" value="clicking this will run ButtonB.Click Event Handler" /><br /><br />

    <asp:Button runat="server" ID="ButtonA" ClientIDMode="Static" Text="ButtonA" /><br /><br />
    <asp:Button runat="server" ID="ButtonB" ClientIDMode="Static" Text="ButtonB" />
</form>

Entire Contents of the Page's Code-Behind Class

Private Sub ButtonA_Click(sender As Object, e As System.EventArgs) Handles ButtonA.Click
    Response.Write("You ran the ButtonA click event")
End Sub

Private Sub ButtonB_Click(sender As Object, e As System.EventArgs) Handles ButtonB.Click
    Response.Write("You ran the ButtonB click event")
End Sub
  • The LinkButton is included to ensure that the __doPostBack javascript function is rendered to the client. Simply having Button controls will not cause this __doPostBack function to be rendered. This function will be rendered by virtue of having a variety of controls on most ASP.NET pages, so an empty link button is typically not needed

What's going on?

Two input controls are rendered to the client:

<input type="hidden" name="__EVENTTARGET" id="__EVENTTARGET" value="" />
<input type="hidden" name="__EVENTARGUMENT" id="__EVENTARGUMENT" value="" />
  • __EVENTTARGET receives argument 1 of __doPostBack
  • __EVENTARGUMENT receives argument 2 of __doPostBack

The __doPostBack function is rendered out like this:

function __doPostBack(eventTarget, eventArgument) {
    if (!theForm.onsubmit || (theForm.onsubmit() != false)) {
        theForm.__EVENTTARGET.value = eventTarget;
        theForm.__EVENTARGUMENT.value = eventArgument;
        theForm.submit();
    }
}
  • As you can see, it assigns the values to the hidden inputs.

When the form submits / postback occurs:

  • If you provided the UniqueID of the Server-Control Button whose button-click-handler you want to run (javascript:__doPostBack('ButtonB',''), then the button click handler for that button will be run.

What if I don't want to run a click handler, but want to do something else instead?

You can pass whatever you want as arguments to __doPostBack

You can then analyze the hidden input values and run specific code accordingly:

If Request.Form("__EVENTTARGET") = "DoSomethingElse" Then
    Response.Write("Do Something else")
End If

Other Notes

  • What if I don't know the ID of the control whose click handler I want to run?
    • If it is not acceptable to set ClientIDMode="Static", then you can do something like this: __doPostBack('<%= myclientid.UniqueID %>', '').
    • Or: __doPostBack('<%= MYBUTTON.UniqueID %>','')
    • This will inject the unique id of the control into the javascript, should you wish it

How to get the squared symbol (²) to display in a string

Not sure what kind of text box you are refering to. However, I'm not sure if you can do this in a text box on a user form.

A text box on a sheet you can though.

Sheets("Sheet1").Shapes("TextBox 1").TextFrame2.TextRange.Text = "R2=" & variable
Sheets("Sheet1").Shapes("TextBox 1").TextFrame2.TextRange.Characters(2, 1).Font.Superscript = msoTrue

And same thing for an excel cell

Sheets("Sheet1").Range("A1").Characters(2, 1).Font.Superscript = True

If this isn't what you're after you will need to provide more information in your question.

EDIT: posted this after the comment sorry

select2 onchange event only works once

My select2 element was not firing the onchange event as the drop down list offered only one value, making it impossible to change the value.

The value not having changed, no event was fired and the handler could not execute.

I then added another handler to clear the value, with the select2-open handler being executed before the onchange handler.

The source code now looks like:

el.on("select2-open", function(e) {
    $(this).val('');
});
el.on('change', function() {
    ...
});

The first handler clears the value, allowing the second handler to fire up even if selecting the same value.

How to Run a jQuery or JavaScript Before Page Start to Load

Maybe you are using:

$(document).ready(function(){
   // Your code here
 });

Try this instead:

window.onload = function(){  }

How to know if .keyup() is a character key (jQuery)

You can't do this reliably with the keyup event. If you want to know something about the character that was typed, you have to use the keypress event instead.

The following example will work all the time in most browsers but there are some edge cases that you should be aware of. For what is in my view the definitive guide on this, see http://unixpapa.com/js/key.html.

$("input").keypress(function(e) {
    if (e.which !== 0) {
        alert("Charcter was typed. It was: " + String.fromCharCode(e.which));
    }
});

keyup and keydown give you information about the physical key that was pressed. On standard US/UK keyboards in their standard layouts, it looks like there is a correlation between the keyCode property of these events and the character they represent. However, this is not reliable: different keyboard layouts will have different mappings.

Read and overwrite a file in Python

The fileinput module has an inplace mode for writing changes to the file you are processing without using temporary files etc. The module nicely encapsulates the common operation of looping over the lines in a list of files, via an object which transparently keeps track of the file name, line number etc if you should want to inspect them inside the loop.

from fileinput import FileInput
for line in FileInput("file", inplace=1):
    line = line.replace("foobar", "bar")
    print(line)

How to npm install to a specified directory?

I am using a powershell build and couldn't get npm to run without changing the current directory.

Ended up using the start command and just specifying the working directory:

start "npm" -ArgumentList "install --warn" -wo $buildFolder

ORACLE: Updating multiple columns at once

It's perfectly possible to update multiple columns in the same statement, and in fact your code is doing it. So why does it seem that "INV_TOTAL is not updating, only the inv_discount"?

Because you're updating INV_TOTAL with INV_DISCOUNT, and the database is going to use the existing value of INV_DISCOUNT and not the one you change it to. So I'm afraid what you need to do is this:

UPDATE INVOICE
   SET INV_DISCOUNT = DISC1 * INV_SUBTOTAL
     , INV_TOTAL    = INV_SUBTOTAL - (DISC1 * INV_SUBTOTAL)
WHERE INV_ID = I_INV_ID;

Perhaps that seems a bit clunky to you. It is, but the problem lies in your data model. Storing derivable values in the table, rather than deriving when needed, rarely leads to elegant SQL.

How to make blinking/flashing text with CSS 3

Alternatively if you do not want a gradual transition between show and hide (e.g. a blinking text cursor) you could use something like:

/* Also use prefixes with @keyframes and animation to support current browsers */
@keyframes blinker {
  from { visibility: visible }
  to { visibility: hidden }

  /* Alternatively you can do this:
  0% { visibility: visible; }
  50% { visibility: hidden; }
  100% { visibility: visible; }
  if you don't want to use `alternate` */
}
.cursor {
  animation: blinker steps(1) 500ms infinite alternate;
}

Every 1s .cursor will go from visible to hidden.

If CSS animation is not supported (e.g. in some versions of Safari) you can fallback to this simple JS interval:

(function(){
  var show = 'visible'; // state var toggled by interval
  var time = 500; // milliseconds between each interval

  setInterval(function() {
    // Toggle our visible state on each interval
    show = (show === 'hidden') ? 'visible' : 'hidden';

    // Get the cursor elements
    var cursors = document.getElementsByClassName('cursor');
    // We could do this outside the interval callback,
    // but then it wouldn't be kept in sync with the DOM

    // Loop through the cursor elements and update them to the current state
    for (var i = 0; i < cursors.length; i++) {
      cursors[i].style.visibility = show;
    }
  }, time);
})()

This simple JavaScript is actually very fast and in many cases may even be a better default than the CSS. It's worth noting that it is lots of DOM calls that make JS animations slow (e.g. JQuery's $.animate()).

It also has the second advantage that if you add .cursor elements later, they will still animate at exactly the same time as other .cursors since the state is shared, this is impossible with CSS as far as I am aware.

Force LF eol in git repo and working copy

Without a bit of information about what files are in your repository (pure source code, images, executables, ...), it's a bit hard to answer the question :)

Beside this, I'll consider that you're willing to default to LF as line endings in your working directory because you're willing to make sure that text files have LF line endings in your .git repository wether you work on Windows or Linux. Indeed better safe than sorry....

However, there's a better alternative: Benefit from LF line endings in your Linux workdir, CRLF line endings in your Windows workdir AND LF line endings in your repository.

As you're partially working on Linux and Windows, make sure core.eol is set to native and core.autocrlf is set to true.

Then, replace the content of your .gitattributes file with the following

* text=auto

This will let Git handle the automagic line endings conversion for you, on commits and checkouts. Binary files won't be altered, files detected as being text files will see the line endings converted on the fly.

However, as you know the content of your repository, you may give Git a hand and help him detect text files from binary files.

Provided you work on a C based image processing project, replace the content of your .gitattributes file with the following

* text=auto
*.txt text
*.c text
*.h text
*.jpg binary

This will make sure files which extension is c, h, or txt will be stored with LF line endings in your repo and will have native line endings in the working directory. Jpeg files won't be touched. All of the others will be benefit from the same automagic filtering as seen above.

In order to get a get a deeper understanding of the inner details of all this, I'd suggest you to dive into this very good post "Mind the end of your line" from Tim Clem, a Githubber.

As a real world example, you can also peek at this commit where those changes to a .gitattributes file are demonstrated.

UPDATE to the answer considering the following comment

I actually don't want CRLF in my Windows directories, because my Linux environment is actually a VirtualBox sharing the Windows directory

Makes sense. Thanks for the clarification. In this specific context, the .gitattributes file by itself won't be enough.

Run the following commands against your repository

$ git config core.eol lf
$ git config core.autocrlf input

As your repository is shared between your Linux and Windows environment, this will update the local config file for both environment. core.eol will make sure text files bear LF line endings on checkouts. core.autocrlf will ensure potential CRLF in text files (resulting from a copy/paste operation for instance) will be converted to LF in your repository.

Optionally, you can help Git distinguish what is a text file by creating a .gitattributes file containing something similar to the following:

# Autodetect text files
* text=auto

# ...Unless the name matches the following
# overriding patterns

# Definitively text files
*.txt text
*.c text
*.h text

# Ensure those won't be messed up with
*.jpg binary
*.data binary

If you decided to create a .gitattributes file, commit it.

Lastly, ensure git status mentions "nothing to commit (working directory clean)", then perform the following operation

$ git checkout-index --force --all

This will recreate your files in your working directory, taking into account your config changes and the .gitattributes file and replacing any potential overlooked CRLF in your text files.

Once this is done, every text file in your working directory WILL bear LF line endings and git status should still consider the workdir as clean.

How to get database structure in MySQL via query

To get the whole database structure as a set of CREATE TABLE statements, use mysqldump:

mysqldump database_name --compact --no-data

For single tables, add the table name after db name in mysqldump. You get the same results with SQL and SHOW CREATE TABLE:

SHOW CREATE TABLE table;

Or DESCRIBE if you prefer a column listing:

DESCRIBE table;

Python style - line continuation with strings?

Just pointing out that it is use of parentheses that invokes auto-concatenation. That's fine if you happen to already be using them in the statement. Otherwise, I would just use '\' rather than inserting parentheses (which is what most IDEs do for you automatically). The indent should align the string continuation so it is PEP8 compliant. E.g.:

my_string = "The quick brown dog " \
            "jumped over the lazy fox"

Java, Check if integer is multiple of a number

Python main call within class

That entire block is misplaced.

class Example(object):
    def main(self):
        print "Hello World!"

if __name__ == '__main__':
    Example().main()

But you really shouldn't be using a class just to run your main code.

How do you use a variable in a regular expression?

As Eric Wendelin mentioned, you can do something like this:

str1 = "pattern"
var re = new RegExp(str1, "g");
"pattern matching .".replace(re, "regex");

This yields "regex matching .". However, it will fail if str1 is ".". You'd expect the result to be "pattern matching regex", replacing the period with "regex", but it'll turn out to be...

regexregexregexregexregexregexregexregexregexregexregexregexregexregexregexregexregexregex

This is because, although "." is a String, in the RegExp constructor it's still interpreted as a regular expression, meaning any non-line-break character, meaning every character in the string. For this purpose, the following function may be useful:

 RegExp.quote = function(str) {
     return str.replace(/([.?*+^$[\]\\(){}|-])/g, "\\$1");
 };

Then you can do:

str1 = "."
var re = new RegExp(RegExp.quote(str1), "g");
"pattern matching .".replace(re, "regex");

yielding "pattern matching regex".

BeanFactory not initialized or already closed - call 'refresh' before

In my case, the error "BeanFactory not initialized or already closed - call 'refresh' before" was a consequence of a previous error that I didn't noticed in the server startup. I think that it is not always the real cause of the problem.

Rails 2.3.4 Persisting Model on Validation Failure

In your controller, render the new action from your create action if validation fails, with an instance variable, @car populated from the user input (i.e., the params hash). Then, in your view, add a logic check (either an if block around the form or a ternary on the helpers, your choice) that automatically sets the value of the form fields to the params values passed in to @car if car exists. That way, the form will be blank on first visit and in theory only be populated on re-render in the case of error. In any case, they will not be populated unless @car is set.

Find what 2 numbers add to something and multiply to something

Come on guys, there is no need to loop, just use simple math to solve this equation system:

a*b = i;

a+b = j;

a = j/b;

a = i-b;

j/b = i-b; so:

b + j/b + i = 0

b^2 + i*b + j = 0

From here, its a quadratic equation, and it's trivial to find b (just implement the quadratic equation formula) and from there get the value for a.

EDIT:

There you go:

function finder($add,$product)
{

 $inside_root = $add*$add - 4*$product;

 if($inside_root >=0)
 {

     $b = ($add + sqrt($inside_root))/2;
     $a = $add - $b;

     echo "$a+$b = $add and $a*$b=$product\n";

 }else
 {
   echo "No real solution\n";
 }
}

Is there a way to specify how many characters of a string to print out using printf()?

printf ("Here are the first 8 chars: %.8s\n", "A string that is more than 8 chars");

%8s would specify a minimum width of 8 characters. You want to truncate at 8, so use %.8s.

If you want to always print exactly 8 characters you could use %8.8s

Getting the text that follows after the regex match

if Matcher is initialized with str, after the match, you can get the part after the match with

str.substring(matcher.end())

Sample Code:

final String str = "Some lame sentence that is awesome";

if(matcher.find()){
    System.out.println(str.substring(matcher.end()).trim());
}

Output:

that is awesome

Why can't I call a public method in another class?

You have to create a variable of the type of the class, and set it equal to a new instance of the object first.

GradeBook myGradeBook = new GradeBook();

Then call the method on the obect you just created.

myGradeBook.[method you want called]

How to add a bot to a Telegram Group?

Edit: now there is yet an easier way to do this - when creating your group, just mention the full bot name (eg. @UniversalAgent1Bot) and it will list it as you type. Then you can just tap on it to add it.

Old answer:

  1. Create a new group from the menu. Don't add any bots yet
  2. Find the bot (for instance you can go to Contacts and search for it)
  3. Tap to open
  4. Tap the bot name on the top bar. Your page becomes like this: Telegram bot settings
  5. Now, tap the triple ... and you will get the Add to Group button: Adding the bot
  6. Now select your group and add the bot - and confirm the addition

What is Dependency Injection?

The whole point of Dependency Injection (DI) is to keep application source code clean and stable:

  • clean of dependency initialization code
  • stable regardless of dependency used

Practically, every design pattern separates concerns to make future changes affect minimum files.

The specific domain of DI is delegation of dependency configuration and initialization.

Example: DI with shell script

If you occasionally work outside of Java, recall how source is often used in many scripting languages (Shell, Tcl, etc., or even import in Python misused for this purpose).

Consider simple dependent.sh script:

#!/bin/sh
# Dependent
touch         "one.txt" "two.txt"
archive_files "one.txt" "two.txt"

The script is dependent: it won't execute successfully on its own (archive_files is not defined).

You define archive_files in archive_files_zip.sh implementation script (using zip in this case):

#!/bin/sh
# Dependency
function archive_files {
    zip files.zip "$@"
}

Instead of source-ing implementation script directly in the dependent one, you use an injector.sh "container" which wraps both "components":

#!/bin/sh
# Injector
source ./archive_files_zip.sh
source ./dependent.sh

The archive_files dependency has just been injected into dependent script.

You could have injected dependency which implements archive_files using tar or xz.

Example: removing DI

If dependent.sh script used dependencies directly, the approach would be called dependency lookup (which is opposite to dependency injection):

#!/bin/sh
# Dependent

# dependency look-up
source ./archive_files_zip.sh

touch         "one.txt" "two.txt"
archive_files "one.txt" "two.txt"

Now the problem is that dependent "component" has to perform initialization itself.

The "component"'s source code is neither clean nor stable because every changes in initialization of dependencies requires new release for "components"'s source code file as well.

Last words

DI is not as largely emphasized and popularized as in Java frameworks.

But it's a generic approach to split concerns of:

  • application development (single source code release lifecycle)
  • application deployment (multiple target environments with independent lifecycles)

Using configuration only with dependency lookup does not help as number of configuration parameters may change per dependency (e.g. new authentication type) as well as number of supported types of dependencies (e.g. new database type).

"Invalid JSON primitive" in Ajax processing

Just a guess what does the variable json contain after

var json = Sys.Serialization.JavaScriptSerializer.serialize(obj);?

If it is a valid json object like {'foo':'foovalue', 'bar':'barvalue'} then jQuery might not send it as json data but instead serialize it to foor=foovalue&bar=barvalue thus you get the error "Invalid JSON primitive: foo"

Try instead setting the data as string

$.ajax({
    ...
    data: "{'foo':'foovalue', 'bar':'barvalue'}", //note the additional quotation marks
    ...
})

This way jQuery should leave the data alone and send the string as is to the server which should allow ASP.NET to parse the json server side.

How do you use the "WITH" clause in MySQL?

I liked @Brad's answer from this thread, but wanted a way to save the results for further processing (MySql 8):

-- Some boundaries
set @startDate = '2015-01-01'
    , @endDate = '2020-12-31' ;

EntityType 'IdentityUserLogin' has no key defined. Define the key for this EntityType

My issue was similar - I had a new table i was creating that ahd to tie in to the identity users. After reading the above answers, realized it had to do with IsdentityUser and the inherited properites. I already had Identity set up as its own Context, so to avoid inherently tying the two together, rather than using the related user table as a true EF property, I set up a non-mapped property with the query to get the related entities. (DataManager is set up to retrieve the current context in which OtherEntity exists.)

How can I represent an infinite number in Python?

In python2.x there was a dirty hack that served this purpose (NEVER use it unless absolutely necessary):

None < any integer < any string

Thus the check i < '' holds True for any integer i.

It has been reasonably deprecated in python3. Now such comparisons end up with

TypeError: unorderable types: str() < int()

The difference between "require(x)" and "import x"

I will make it simple,

  • Import and Export are ES6 features(Next gen JS).
  • Require is old school method of importing code from other files

Major difference is in require, entire JS file is called or imported. Even if you don't need some part of it.

var myObject = require('./otherFile.js'); //This JS file will be imported fully.

Whereas in import you can extract only objects/functions/variables which are required.

import { getDate }from './utils.js';
//Here I am only pulling getDate method from the file instead of importing full file

Another major difference is you can use require anywhere in the program where as import should always be at the top of file

Single line if statement with 2 actions

You can write that in single line, but it's not something that someone would be able to read. Keep it like you already wrote it, it's already beautiful by itself.

If you have too much if/else constructs, you may think about using of different datastructures, like Dictionaries (to look up keys) or Collection (to run conditional LINQ queries on it)

Restore DB — Error RESTORE HEADERONLY is terminating abnormally.

This type of error will come when you try to upload backup data from a higher version to lower version. Like you have backup of SQL server 2008 and you trying to upload data into SQL server 2005 then you will get this kind of error. Please try to upload in a higher version.

Creating a textarea with auto-resize

The jQuery solution is to set the height of the textarea to 'auto', check the scrollHeight and then adapt the height of the textarea to that, every time a textarea changes (JSFiddle):

$('textarea').on( 'input', function(){
    $(this).height( 'auto' ).height( this.scrollHeight );
});

If you're dynamically adding textareas (through AJAX or whatever), you can add this in your $(document).ready to make sure all textareas with class 'autoheight' are kept to the same height as their content:

$(document).on( 'input', 'textarea.autoheight', function() {
    $(this).height( 'auto' ).height( this.scrollHeight );
});

Tested and working in Chrome, Firefox, Opera and IE. Also supports cut and paste, long words, etc.

Installing MySQL in Docker fails with error message "Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket"

Check out what's in your database.yml file. If you already have your plain Rails app and simply wrapping it with Docker, you should change (inside database.yml):

socket: /var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock #just comment it out

to

host: db

where db is the name of my db-service from docker-compose.yml. And here's my docker-compose.yml:

version: '3'
services:
  web:
    build: .
    command: bundle exec rails s -p 3000 -b '0.0.0.0'
    volumes:
      - .:/myapp
    ports:
      - "3000:3000"
    links:
      - db
  db:
    image: mysql:5.7
    environment:
      MYSQL_ROOT_PASSWORD: root

You start your app in console (in app folder) as docker-compose up. Then WAIT 1 MINUTE (let your mysql service to completely load) until some new logs stop appearing in console. Usually the last line should be like

db_1 | 2017-12-24T12:25:20.397174Z 0 [Note] End of list of non-natively partitioned tables

Then (in a new terminal window) apply:

docker-compose run web rake db:create

and then

docker-compose run web rake db:migrate

After you finish your work stop the loaded images with

docker-compose stop

Don't use docker-compose down here instead because if you do, you will erase your database content.

Next time when you want to resume your work apply:

docker-compose start

The rest of the things do exactly as explained here: https://docs.docker.com/compose/rails/

SQLite error 'attempt to write a readonly database' during insert?

For me the issue was SELinux enforcement rather than permissions. The "read only database" error went away once I disabled enforcement, following the suggestion made by Steve V. in a comment on the accepted answer.

echo 0 >/selinux/enforce

Upon running this command, everything worked as intended (CentOS 6.3).

The specific issue I had encountered was during setup of Graphite. I had triple-checked that the apache user owned and could write to both my graphite.db and its parent directory. But until I "fixed" SELinux, all I got was a stack trace to the effect of: DatabaseError: attempt to write a readonly database

Command output redirect to file and terminal

Yes, if you redirect the output, it won't appear on the console. Use tee.

ls 2>&1 | tee /tmp/ls.txt

jQuery event handlers always execute in order they were bound - any way around this?

Chris Chilvers' advice should be the first course of action but sometimes we're dealing with third party libraries that makes this challenging and requires us to do naughty things... which this is. IMO it's a crime of presumption similar to using !important in CSS.

Having said that, building on Anurag's answer, here are a few additions. These methods allow for multiple events (e.g. "keydown keyup paste"), arbitrary positioning of the handler and reordering after the fact.

$.fn.bindFirst = function (name, fn) {
    this.bindNth(name, fn, 0);
}

$.fn.bindNth(name, fn, index) {
    // Bind event normally.
    this.bind(name, fn);
    // Move to nth position.
    this.changeEventOrder(name, index);
};

$.fn.changeEventOrder = function (names, newIndex) {
    var that = this;
    // Allow for multiple events.
    $.each(names.split(' '), function (idx, name) {
        that.each(function () {
            var handlers = $._data(this, 'events')[name.split('.')[0]];
            // Validate requested position.
            newIndex = Math.min(newIndex, handlers.length - 1);
            handlers.splice(newIndex, 0, handlers.pop());
        });
    });
};

One could extrapolate on this with methods that would place a given handler before or after some other given handler.

Convert number to month name in PHP

If you just want an array of month names from the beginning of the year to the end e.g. to populate a drop-down select, I would just use the following;

for ($i = 0; $i < 12; ++$i) {
  $months[$m] = $m = date("F", strtotime("January +$i months"));
}

In Python, how do I read the exif data for an image?

For Python3.x and starting Pillow==6.0.0, Image objects now provide a getexif() method that returns a <class 'PIL.Image.Exif'> instance or None if the image has no EXIF data.

From Pillow 6.0.0 release notes:

getexif() has been added, which returns an Exif instance. Values can be retrieved and set like a dictionary. When saving JPEG, PNG or WEBP, the instance can be passed as an exif argument to include any changes in the output image.

As stated, you can iterate over the key-value pairs of the Exif instance like a regular dictionary. The keys are 16-bit integers that can be mapped to their string names using the ExifTags.TAGS module.

from PIL import Image, ExifTags

img = Image.open("sample.jpg")
img_exif = img.getexif()
print(type(img_exif))
# <class 'PIL.Image.Exif'>

if img_exif is None:
    print('Sorry, image has no exif data.')
else:
    for key, val in img_exif.items():
        if key in ExifTags.TAGS:
            print(f'{ExifTags.TAGS[key]}:{val}')
            # ExifVersion:b'0230'
            # ...
            # FocalLength:(2300, 100)
            # ColorSpace:1
            # ...
            # Model:'X-T2'
            # Make:'FUJIFILM'
            # LensSpecification:(18.0, 55.0, 2.8, 4.0)
            # ...
            # DateTime:'2019:12:01 21:30:07'
            # ...

Tested with Python 3.8.8 and Pillow==8.1.0.

How do I kill a VMware virtual machine that won't die?

see the following from VMware's webpage

Powering off a virtual machine on an ESXi host (1014165) Symptoms

You are experiencing these issues:

You cannot power off an ESXi hosted virtual machine.
A virtual machine is not responsive and cannot be stopped or killed.

"Using the ESXi 5.x esxcli command to power off a virtual machine

The esxcli command can be used locally or remotely to power off a virtual machine running on ESXi 5.x. For more information, see the esxcli vm Commands section of the vSphere Command-Line Interface Reference.

Open a console session where the esxcli tool is available, either in the ESXi Shell, the vSphere Management Assistant (vMA), or the location where the vSphere Command-Line Interface (vCLI) is installed.

Get a list of running virtual machines, identified by World ID, UUID, Display Name, and path to the .vmx configuration file, using this command:

esxcli vm process list

Power off one of the virtual machines from the list using this command:

esxcli vm process kill --type=[soft,hard,force] --world-id=WorldNumber

Notes:
Three power-off methods are available. Soft is the most graceful, hard performs an immediate shutdown, and force should be used as a last resort.
Alternate power off command syntax is: esxcli vm process kill -t [soft,hard,force] -w WorldNumber

Repeat Step 2 and validate that the virtual machine is no longer running.

For ESXi 4.1:

Get a list of running virtual machines, identified by World ID, UUID, Display Name, and path to the .vmx configuration file, using this command:

esxcli vms vm list

Power off one of the virtual machines from the list using this command:

esxcli vms vm kill --type=[soft,hard,force] --world-id=WorldNumber"

Tracking the script execution time in PHP

You may only want to know the execution time of parts of your script. The most flexible way to time parts or an entire script is to create 3 simple functions (procedural code given here but you could turn it into a class by putting class timer{} around it and making a couple of tweaks). This code works, just copy and paste and run:

$tstart = 0;
$tend = 0;

function timer_starts()
{
global $tstart;

$tstart=microtime(true); ;

}

function timer_ends()
{
global $tend;

$tend=microtime(true); ;

}

function timer_calc()
{
global $tstart,$tend;

return (round($tend - $tstart,2));
}

timer_starts();
file_get_contents('http://google.com');
timer_ends();
print('It took '.timer_calc().' seconds to retrieve the google page');

How to install beautiful soup 4 with python 2.7 on windows

You don't need pip for installing Beautiful Soup - you can just download it and run python setup.py install from the directory that you have unzipped BeautifulSoup in (assuming that you have added Python to your system PATH - if you haven't and you don't want to you can run C:\Path\To\Python27\python "C:\Path\To\BeautifulSoup\setup.py" install)

However, you really should install pip - see How to install pip on Windows for how to do that best (via @MartijnPieters comment)

SQL query with avg and group by

If I understand what you need, try this:

SELECT id, pass, AVG(val) AS val_1
FROM data_r1
GROUP BY id, pass;

Or, if you want just one row for every id, this:

SELECT d1.id,
    (SELECT IFNULL(ROUND(AVG(d2.val), 4) ,0) FROM data_r1 d2
     WHERE d2.id = d1.id AND pass = 1) as val_1,
    (SELECT IFNULL(ROUND(AVG(d2.val), 4) ,0) FROM data_r1 d2
     WHERE d2.id = d1.id AND pass = 2) as val_2,
    (SELECT IFNULL(ROUND(AVG(d2.val), 4) ,0) FROM data_r1 d2
     WHERE d2.id = d1.id AND pass = 3) as val_3,
    (SELECT IFNULL(ROUND(AVG(d2.val), 4) ,0) FROM data_r1 d2
     WHERE d2.id = d1.id AND pass = 4) as val_4,
    (SELECT IFNULL(ROUND(AVG(d2.val), 4) ,0) FROM data_r1 d2
     WHERE d2.id = d1.id AND pass = 5) as val_5,
    (SELECT IFNULL(ROUND(AVG(d2.val), 4) ,0) FROM data_r1 d2
     WHERE d2.id = d1.id AND pass = 6) as val_6,
    (SELECT IFNULL(ROUND(AVG(d2.val), 4) ,0) FROM data_r1 d2
     WHERE d2.id = d1.id AND pass = 7) as val_7
from data_r1 d1

Maven home (M2_HOME) not being picked up by IntelliJ IDEA

In case you don't want to use the M2_HOME and want to direct the IntelliJ to the maven installation you can simply set it by:

  • goto File => Setting => Maven => Maven home directory
  • point to your maven build directory e.g. /usr/local/maven/apache-maven-3.0.4

A better way is to have a symlink e.g. 'latest' for the latest version and point your IntelliJ to use that for consistency, given latest points to the latest version of maven installed on your box.

Server Error in '/' Application. ASP.NET

Look at these two excerpts:

I uploaded my website to my domain under the public folder.

and

This error can be caused by a virtual directory not being configured as an application in IIS.

It's pretty clear to me that you did exactly what you said you did, and no more, i.e. you transfered the files to the web server, but nothing else. You need to configure that public folder as a virtual directory in IIS as the error is telling you, or it's just not going to work.

This Way:

Post::with(array('user'=>function($query){
    $query->select('id','username');
}))->get();

switch case statement error: case expressions must be constant expression

Solution can be done be this way:

  1. Just assign the value to Integer
  2. Make variable to final

Example:

public static final int cameraRequestCode = 999;

Hope this will help you.

Use jQuery to change an HTML tag?

Once a dom element is created, the tag is immutable, I believe. You'd have to do something like this:

$(this).replaceWith($('<h5>' + this.innerHTML + '</h5>'));

Get Category name from Post ID

function wp_get_post_categories( $post_id = 0, $args = array() )
{
   $post_id = (int) $post_id;
   $defaults = array('fields' => 'ids');
   $args = wp_parse_args( $args, $defaults );
   $cats = wp_get_object_terms($post_id, 'category', $args);

   return $cats;
}

Here is the second argument of function wp_get_post_categories() which you can pass the attributes of receiving data.

$category_detail = get_the_category( '4',array( 'fields' => 'names' ) ); //$post->ID
foreach( $category_detail as $cd )
{
   echo $cd->name;
}

Why is "forEach not a function" for this object?

When I tried to access the result from

Object.keys(a).forEach(function (key){ console.log(a[key]); });

it was plain text result with no key-value pairs Here is an example

var fruits = {
    apple: "fruits/apple.png",
    banana: "fruits/banana.png",
    watermelon: "watermelon.jpg",
    grapes: "grapes.png",
    orange: "orange.jpg"
}

Now i want to get all links in a separated array , but with this code

    function linksOfPics(obJect){
Object.keys(obJect).forEach(function(x){
    console.log('\"'+obJect[x]+'\"');
});
}

the result of :

linksOfPics(fruits)

"fruits/apple.png"
 "fruits/banana.png"
 "watermelon.jpg"
 "grapes.png"
 "orange.jpg"
undefined

I figured out this one which solves what I'm looking for

  console.log(Object.values(fruits));
["fruits/apple.png", "fruits/banana.png", "watermelon.jpg", "grapes.png", "orange.jpg"]

What is the difference between char s[] and char *s?

Given the declarations

char *s0 = "hello world";
char s1[] = "hello world";

assume the following hypothetical memory map:

                    0x01  0x02  0x03  0x04
        0x00008000: 'h'   'e'   'l'   'l'
        0x00008004: 'o'   ' '   'w'   'o'
        0x00008008: 'r'   'l'   'd'   0x00
        ...
s0:     0x00010000: 0x00  0x00  0x80  0x00
s1:     0x00010004: 'h'   'e'   'l'   'l'
        0x00010008: 'o'   ' '   'w'   'o'
        0x0001000C: 'r'   'l'   'd'   0x00

The string literal "hello world" is a 12-element array of char (const char in C++) with static storage duration, meaning that the memory for it is allocated when the program starts up and remains allocated until the program terminates. Attempting to modify the contents of a string literal invokes undefined behavior.

The line

char *s0 = "hello world";

defines s0 as a pointer to char with auto storage duration (meaning the variable s0 only exists for the scope in which it is declared) and copies the address of the string literal (0x00008000 in this example) to it. Note that since s0 points to a string literal, it should not be used as an argument to any function that would try to modify it (e.g., strtok(), strcat(), strcpy(), etc.).

The line

char s1[] = "hello world";

defines s1 as a 12-element array of char (length is taken from the string literal) with auto storage duration and copies the contents of the literal to the array. As you can see from the memory map, we have two copies of the string "hello world"; the difference is that you can modify the string contained in s1.

s0 and s1 are interchangeable in most contexts; here are the exceptions:

sizeof s0 == sizeof (char*)
sizeof s1 == 12

type of &s0 == char **
type of &s1 == char (*)[12] // pointer to a 12-element array of char

You can reassign the variable s0 to point to a different string literal or to another variable. You cannot reassign the variable s1 to point to a different array.

Get variable from PHP to JavaScript

It depends on what type of PHP variable you want to use in Javascript. For example, entire PHP objects with class methods cannot be used in Javascript. You can, however, use the built-in PHP JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) functions to convert simple PHP variables into JSON representations. For more information, please read the following links:

You can generate the JSON representation of your PHP variable and then print it into your Javascript code when the page loads. For example:

<script type="text/javascript">
  var foo = <?php echo json_encode($bar); ?>;
</script>

Get current date/time in seconds

You can met another way to get time in seconds/milliseconds since 1 Jan 1970:

var milliseconds = +new Date;
var seconds = milliseconds / 1000;

But be careful with such approach, cause it might be tricky to read and understand it.

How to output JavaScript with PHP

You want to do this:

Hiding a button in Javascript

visibility=hidden

is very useful, but it will still take up space on the page. You can also use

display=none

because that will not only hide the object, but make it so that it doesn't take up space until it is displayed. (Also keep in mind that display's opposite is "block," not "visible")

How is TeamViewer so fast?

would take time to route through TeamViewer's servers (TeamViewer bypasses corporate Symmetric NATs by simply proxying traffic through their servers)

You'll find that TeamViewer rarely needs to relay traffic through their own servers. TeamViewer penetrates NAT and networks complicated by NAT using NAT traversal (I think it is UDP hole-punching, like Google's libjingle).

They do use their own servers to middle-man in order to do the handshake and connection set-up, but most of the time the relationship between client and server will be P2P (best case, when the hand-shake is successful). If NAT traversal fails, then TeamViewer will indeed relay traffic through its own servers.

I've only ever seen it do this when a client has been behind double-NAT, though.

What is the difference between npm install and npm run build?

  • npm install installs the depedendencies in your package.json config.
  • npm run build runs the script "build" and created a script which runs your application - let's say server.js
  • npm start runs the "start" script which will then be "node server.js"

It's difficult to tell exactly what the issue was but basically if you look at your scripts configuration, I would guess that "build" uses some kind of build tool to create your application while "start" assumes the build has been done but then fails if the file is not there.

You are probably using bower or grunt - I seem to remember that a typical grunt application will have defined those scripts as well as a "clean" script to delete the last build.

Build tools tend to create a file in a bin/, dist/, or build/ folder which the start script then calls - e.g. "node build/server.js". When your npm start fails, it is probably because you called npm clean or similar to delete the latest build so your application file is not present causing npm start to fail.

npm build's source code - to touch on the discussion in this question - is in github for you to have a look at if you like. If you run npm build directly and you have a "build" script defined, it will exit with an error asking you to call your build script as npm run-script build so it's not the same as npm run script.

I'm not quite sure what npm build does, but it seems to be related to postinstall and packaging scripts in dependencies. I assume that this might be making sure that any CLI build scripts's or native libraries required by dependencies are built for the specific environment after downloading the package. This will be why link and install call this script.

Java - Reading XML file

One of the possible implementations:

File file = new File("userdata.xml");
DocumentBuilderFactory documentBuilderFactory = DocumentBuilderFactory
        .newInstance();
DocumentBuilder documentBuilder = documentBuilderFactory.newDocumentBuilder();
Document document = documentBuilder.parse(file);
String usr = document.getElementsByTagName("user").item(0).getTextContent();
String pwd = document.getElementsByTagName("password").item(0).getTextContent();

when used with the XML content:

<credentials>
    <user>testusr</user>
    <password>testpwd</password>
</credentials>

results in "testusr" and "testpwd" getting assigned to the usr and pwd references above.

How to trigger a phone call when clicking a link in a web page on mobile phone

Just use HTML anchor tag <a> and start the attribute href with tel:. I suggest starting the phone number with the country code. pay attention to the following example:

<a href="tel:+989123456789">NO Different What it is</a>

For this example, the country code is +98.

Hint: It is so suitable for cellphones, I know tel: prefix calls FaceTime on macOS but on Windows I'm not sure, but I guess it caused to launch Skype.

For more information: you can visit the list of URL schemes supported by browsers to know all href values prefixes.

Cell Style Alignment on a range

Maybe declaring a range might workout better for you.

// fill in the starting and ending range programmatically this is just an example.
string startRange = "A1";
string endRange = "A1";

currentRange.Style.HorizontalAlignment = Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.XlHAlign.xlHAlignLeft;

Is there a JavaScript / jQuery DOM change listener?

In addition to the "raw" tools provided by MutationObserver API, there exist "convenience" libraries to work with DOM mutations.

Consider: MutationObserver represents each DOM change in terms of subtrees. So if you're, for instance, waiting for a certain element to be inserted, it may be deep inside the children of mutations.mutation[i].addedNodes[j].

Another problem is when your own code, in reaction to mutations, changes DOM - you often want to filter it out.

A good convenience library that solves such problems is mutation-summary (disclaimer: I'm not the author, just a satisfied user), which enables you to specify queries of what you're interested in, and get exactly that.

Basic usage example from the docs:

var observer = new MutationSummary({

What does the line "#!/bin/sh" mean in a UNIX shell script?

The first line tells the shell that if you execute the script directly (./run.sh; as opposed to /bin/sh run.sh), it should use that program (/bin/sh in this case) to interpret it.

You can also use it to pass arguments, commonly -e (exit on error), or use other programs (/bin/awk, /usr/bin/perl, etc).

Boolean vs tinyint(1) for boolean values in MySQL

I am going to take a different approach here and suggest that it is just as important for your fellow developers to understand your code as it is for the compiler/database to. Using boolean may do the same thing as using tinyint, however it has the advantage of semantically conveying what your intention is, and that's worth something.

If you use a tinyint, it's not obvious that the only values you should see are 0 and 1. A boolean is ALWAYS true or false.

PHP code is not being executed, instead code shows on the page

I'm posting this answer because my Virtualmin/Webmin admin interface decided it was a good idea to disable my PHP engine.. took me a while to find the solution, so I thought I'd share it with you guys:

Also, be sure to check that none of your website config files related to this specific host or virtualhost have any php_admin_value's in them that turn off PHP, like this:

php_admin_value engine Off

When in doubt, comment it...

# php_admin_value engine Off

And restart your webserver.

How to rename with prefix/suffix?

If it's open to a modification, you could use a suffix instead of a prefix. Then you could use tab-completion to get the original filename and add the suffix.

Otherwise, no this isn't something that is supported by the mv command. A simple shell script could cope though.

Filter element based on .data() key/value

We can make a plugin pretty easily:

$.fn.filterData = function(key, value) {
    return this.filter(function() {
        return $(this).data(key) == value;
    });
};

Usage (checking a radio button):

$('input[name=location_id]').filterData('my-data','data-val').prop('checked',true);

How can I enable CORS on Django REST Framework

pip install django-cors-headers

and then add it to your installed apps:

INSTALLED_APPS = (
    ...
    'corsheaders',
    ...
)

You will also need to add a middleware class to listen in on responses:

MIDDLEWARE_CLASSES = (
    ...
    'corsheaders.middleware.CorsMiddleware',
    'django.middleware.common.CommonMiddleware',
    ...
)

CORS_ORIGIN_ALLOW_ALL = True # If this is used then `CORS_ORIGIN_WHITELIST` will not have any effect
CORS_ALLOW_CREDENTIALS = True
CORS_ORIGIN_WHITELIST = [
    'http://localhost:3030',
] # If this is used, then not need to use `CORS_ORIGIN_ALLOW_ALL = True`
CORS_ORIGIN_REGEX_WHITELIST = [
    'http://localhost:3030',
]

How to check if running as root in a bash script

The problem using: id -u, $EUID and whoami is all of them give false positive when I fake the root, for example:

$ fakeroot

id:

$ id -u
0

EUID:

$ echo $EUID
0

whoami:

$ whoami
root

then a reliable and hacking way is verify if the user has access to the /root directory:

 $ ls /root/ &>/dev/null && is_root=true || is_root=false; echo $is_root

git add remote branch

You can check if you got your remote setup right and have the proper permissions with

git ls-remote origin

if you called your remote "origin". If you get an error you probably don't have your security set up correctly such as uploading your public key to github for example. If things are setup correctly, you will get a list of the remote references. Now

git fetch origin

will work barring any other issues like an unplugged network cable.

Once you have that done, you can get any branch you want that the above command listed with

git checkout some-branch

this will create a local branch of the same name as the remote branch and check it out.

Unable to run Java GUI programs with Ubuntu

I would check with another Java implementation/vendor. Preferrably Oracle/Sun Java: http://www.java.com/en/ . The open-source implementations unfortunately differ in weird ways.

Fatal error: Call to a member function fetch_assoc() on a non-object

I happen to miss spaces in my query and this error comes.

Ex: $sql= "SELECT * FROM";
$sql .= "table1";

Though the example might look simple, when coding complex queries, the probability for this error is high. I was missing space before word "table1".

How to draw a path on a map using kml file?

Mathias Lin code working beautifully. However, you might want to consider changing this part inside drawPath method:

 if (lngLat.length >= 2 && gp1.getLatitudeE6() > 0 && gp1.getLongitudeE6() > 0
                    && gp2.getLatitudeE6() > 0 && gp2.getLongitudeE6() > 0) {

GeoPoint can be less than zero as well, I switch mine to:

     if (lngLat.length >= 2 && gp1.getLatitudeE6() != 0 && gp1.getLongitudeE6() != 0
                    && gp2.getLatitudeE6() != 0 && gp2.getLongitudeE6() != 0) {

Thank you :D

Why are you not able to declare a class as static in Java?

The only classes that can be static are inner classes. The following code works just fine:

public class whatever {
    static class innerclass {
    }
}

The point of static inner classes is that they don't have a reference to the outer class object.

How to upper case every first letter of word in a string?

import org.apache.commons.lang.WordUtils;

public class CapitalizeFirstLetterInString {
    public static void main(String[] args) {
        // only the first letter of each word is capitalized.
        String wordStr = WordUtils.capitalize("this is first WORD capital test.");
        //Capitalize method capitalizes only first character of a String
        System.out.println("wordStr= " + wordStr);

        wordStr = WordUtils.capitalizeFully("this is first WORD capital test.");
        // This method capitalizes first character of a String and make rest of the characters lowercase
        System.out.println("wordStr = " + wordStr );
    }
}

Output :

This Is First WORD Capital Test.

how do I create an array in jquery?

your question makes no sense. you are asking how to turn a hash into an array. You cant.

you can make a list of values, or make a list of keys, and neither of these have anything to do with jquery, this is pure javascript

curl POST format for CURLOPT_POSTFIELDS

EDIT: From php5 upwards, usage of http_build_query is recommended:

string http_build_query ( mixed $query_data [, string $numeric_prefix [,
                          string $arg_separator [, int $enc_type = PHP_QUERY_RFC1738 ]]] )

Simple example from the manual:

<?php
$data = array('foo'=>'bar',
              'baz'=>'boom',
              'cow'=>'milk',
              'php'=>'hypertext processor');

echo http_build_query($data) . "\n";

/* output:
foo=bar&baz=boom&cow=milk&php=hypertext+processor
*/

?>

before php5:

From the manual:

CURLOPT_POSTFIELDS

The full data to post in a HTTP "POST" operation. To post a file, prepend a filename with @ and use the full path. The filetype can be explicitly specified by following the filename with the type in the format ';type=mimetype'. This parameter can either be passed as a urlencoded string like 'para1=val1&para2=val2&...' or as an array with the field name as key and field data as value. If value is an array, the Content-Type header will be set to multipart/form-data. As of PHP 5.2.0, files thats passed to this option with the @ prefix must be in array form to work.

So something like this should work perfectly (with parameters passed in a associative array):

function preparePostFields($array) {
  $params = array();

  foreach ($array as $key => $value) {
    $params[] = $key . '=' . urlencode($value);
  }

  return implode('&', $params);
}

Xcode Error: "The app ID cannot be registered to your development team."

I encountered the same problem when I was trying to compile a sample project provided by Apple. In the end I figured out that apparently they pre-compiled the sample code before shipping them to developers, so the binary had their signature.

The way to solve it is simple, just delete all the built binaries and re-compile using your own bundle identifier and you should be fine.

Just go to the menu bar, click on [Product] -> [Clean Build Folder] to delete all compiled binaries

How to remove all the occurrences of a char in c++ string

string RemoveChar(string str, char c)
{
   string result;
   for (size_t i = 0; i < str.size(); i++)
   {
          char currentChar = str[i];
          if (currentChar != c)
              result += currentChar;
   }
       return result;
}

This is how I did it.

Or you could do as Antoine mentioned:

See this question which answers the same problem. In your case:

#include <algorithm>
str.erase(std::remove(str.begin(), str.end(), 'a'), str.end());

How can I login to a website with Python?

Maybe you want to use twill. It's quite easy to use and should be able to do what you want.

It will look like the following:

from twill.commands import *
go('http://example.org')

fv("1", "email-email", "blabla.com")
fv("1", "password-clear", "testpass")

submit('0')

You can use showforms() to list all forms once you used go… to browse to the site you want to login. Just try it from the python interpreter.

Python JSON dump / append to .txt with each variable on new line

To avoid confusion, paraphrasing both question and answer. I am assuming that user who posted this question wanted to save dictionary type object in JSON file format but when the user used json.dump, this method dumped all its content in one line. Instead, he wanted to record each dictionary entry on a new line. To achieve this use:

with g as outfile:
  json.dump(hostDict, outfile,indent=2)

Using indent = 2 helped me to dump each dictionary entry on a new line. Thank you @agf. Rewriting this answer to avoid confusion.

Combine Multiple child rows into one row MYSQL

Here is how you would construct your query for this type of requirement.

select ID,Item_Name,max(Flavor) as Flavor,max(Extra_Cheese) as Extra_Cheese
    from (select i.*,
                    case when o.Option_Number=43 then o.value else null end as Flavor,
                    case when o.Option_Number=44 then o.value else null end as Extra_Cheese
                from Ordered_Item i,Ordered_Options o) a
    group by ID,Item_Name;

You basically "case out" each column using case when, then select the max() for each of those columns using group by for each intended item.

Batch file script to zip files

I like PodTech.io's answer to achieve this without additional tools. For me, it did not run out of the box, so I had to slightly change it. I am not sure if the command wScript.Sleep 12000 (12 sec delay) in the original script is required or not, so I kept it.

Here's the modified script Zip.cmd based on his answer, which works fine on my end:

@echo off
if "%1"=="" goto end

setlocal
set TEMPDIR=%TEMP%\ZIP
set FILETOZIP=%1
set OUTPUTZIP=%2.zip
if "%2"=="" set OUTPUTZIP=%1.zip

:: preparing VBS script
echo Set objArgs = WScript.Arguments > _zipIt.vbs
echo InputFolder = objArgs(0) >> _zipIt.vbs
echo ZipFile = objArgs(1) >> _zipIt.vbs
echo Set fso = WScript.CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject") >> _zipIt.vbs
echo Set objZipFile = fso.CreateTextFile(ZipFile, True) >> _zipIt.vbs
echo objZipFile.Write "PK" ^& Chr(5) ^& Chr(6) ^& String(18, vbNullChar) >> _zipIt.vbs
echo objZipFile.Close >> _zipIt.vbs
echo Set objShell = WScript.CreateObject("Shell.Application") >> _zipIt.vbs
echo Set source = objShell.NameSpace(InputFolder).Items >> _zipIt.vbs
echo Set objZip = objShell.NameSpace(fso.GetAbsolutePathName(ZipFile)) >> _zipIt.vbs
echo if not (objZip is nothing) then >> _zipIt.vbs
echo    objZip.CopyHere(source) >> _zipIt.vbs
echo    wScript.Sleep 12000 >> _zipIt.vbs
echo end if >> _zipIt.vbs

@ECHO Zipping, please wait...
mkdir %TEMPDIR%
xcopy /y /s %FILETOZIP% %TEMPDIR%
WScript _zipIt.vbs  %TEMPDIR%  %OUTPUTZIP%
del _zipIt.vbs
rmdir /s /q  %TEMPDIR%

@ECHO ZIP Completed.
:end

Usage:

  • One parameter (no wildcards allowed here):

    Zip FileToZip.txt

    will create FileToZip.txt.zip in the same folder containing the zipped file FileToZip.txt.

  • Two parameters (optionally with wildcards for the first parameter), e.g.

    Zip *.cmd Scripts

    creates Scripts.zip in the same folder containing all matching *.cmd files.

Note: If you want to debug the VBS script, check out this hint, it describes how to activate the debugger to go through it step by step.

How to convert a byte array to a hex string in Java?

I found three different ways here: http://www.rgagnon.com/javadetails/java-0596.html

The most elegant one, as he also notes, I think is this one:

static final String HEXES = "0123456789ABCDEF";
public static String getHex( byte [] raw ) {
    if ( raw == null ) {
        return null;
    }
    final StringBuilder hex = new StringBuilder( 2 * raw.length );
    for ( final byte b : raw ) {
        hex.append(HEXES.charAt((b & 0xF0) >> 4))
            .append(HEXES.charAt((b & 0x0F)));
    }
    return hex.toString();
}

C# HttpClient 4.5 multipart/form-data upload

Try this its working for me.

private static async Task<object> Upload(string actionUrl)
{
    Image newImage = Image.FromFile(@"Absolute Path of image");
    ImageConverter _imageConverter = new ImageConverter();
    byte[] paramFileStream= (byte[])_imageConverter.ConvertTo(newImage, typeof(byte[]));

    var formContent = new MultipartFormDataContent
    {
        // Send form text values here
        {new StringContent("value1"),"key1"},
        {new StringContent("value2"),"key2" },
        // Send Image Here
        {new StreamContent(new MemoryStream(paramFileStream)),"imagekey","filename.jpg"}
    };

    var myHttpClient = new HttpClient();
    var response = await myHttpClient.PostAsync(actionUrl.ToString(), formContent);
    string stringContent = await response.Content.ReadAsStringAsync();

    return response;
}

how to add value to a tuple?

Based on the syntax, I'm guessing this is Python. The point of a tuple is that it is immutable, so you need to replace each element with a new tuple:

list = [l + (''.join(l),) for l in list]
# output:
[('1', '2', '3', '4', '1234'),
 ('2', '3', '4', '5', '2345'),
 ('3', '4', '5', '6', '3456'),
 ('4', '5', '6', '7', '4567')]

javascript if number greater than number

You're comparing strings. JavaScript compares the ASCII code for each character of the string.

To see why you get false, look at the charCodes:

"1300".charCodeAt(0);
49
"999".charCodeAt(0);
57

The comparison is false because, when comparing the strings, the character codes for 1 is not greater than that of 9.

The fix is to treat the strings as numbers. You can use a number of methods:

parseInt(string, radix)
parseInt("1300", 10);
> 1300 - notice the lack of quotes

+"1300"
> 1300

Number("1300")
> 1300

Name attribute in @Entity and @Table

@Entity(name = "someThing") => this name will be used to identify the domain ..this name will only be identified by hql queries ..ie ..name of the domain object

@Table(name = "someThing") => this name will be used to which table referred by domain object..ie ..name of the table

How do I get row id of a row in sql server

SQL does not do that. The order of the tuples in the table are not ordered by insertion date. A lot of people include a column that stores that date of insertion in order to get around this issue.

Remove all special characters from a string in R?

Convert the Special characters to apostrophe,

Data  <- gsub("[^0-9A-Za-z///' ]","'" , Data ,ignore.case = TRUE)

Below code it to remove extra ''' apostrophe

Data <- gsub("''","" , Data ,ignore.case = TRUE)

Use gsub(..) function for replacing the special character with apostrophe

How to remove decimal values from a value of type 'double' in Java

With a cast. You're basically telling the compiler "I know that I'll lose information with this, but it's okay". And then you convert the casted integer into a string to display it.

String newValue = ((int) percentageValue).toString();

Java - Change int to ascii

Do you want to convert ints to chars?:

int yourInt = 33;
char ch = (char) yourInt;
System.out.println(yourInt);
System.out.println(ch);
// Output:
// 33
// !

Or do you want to convert ints to Strings?

int yourInt = 33;
String str = String.valueOf(yourInt);

Or what is it that you mean?

What command means "do nothing" in a conditional in Bash?

Although I'm not answering the original question concering the no-op command, many (if not most) problems when one may think "in this branch I have to do nothing" can be bypassed by simply restructuring the logic so that this branch won't occur.

I try to give a general rule by using the OPs example

do nothing when $a is greater than "10", print "1" if $a is less than "5", otherwise, print "2"

we have to avoid a branch where $a gets more than 10, so $a < 10 as a general condition can be applied to every other, following condition.

In general terms, when you say do nothing when X, then rephrase it as avoid a branch where X. Usually you can make the avoidance happen by simply negating X and applying it to all other conditions.

So the OPs example with the rule applied may be restructured as:

if [ "$a" -lt 10 ] && [ "$a" -le 5 ]
then
    echo "1"
elif [ "$a" -lt 10 ]
then
    echo "2"
fi

Just a variation of the above, enclosing everything in the $a < 10 condition:

if [ "$a" -lt 10 ]
then
    if [ "$a" -le 5 ]
    then
        echo "1"
    else
        echo "2"
    fi
fi

(For this specific example @Flimzys restructuring is certainly better, but I wanted to give a general rule for all the people searching how to do nothing.)

Difference between SurfaceView and View?

Views are all drawn on the same GUI thread which is also used for all user interaction.

So if you need to update GUI rapidly or if the rendering takes too much time and affects user experience then use SurfaceView.

Counting the number of files in a directory using Java

Ah... the rationale for not having a straightforward method in Java to do that is file storage abstraction: some filesystems may not have the number of files in a directory readily available... that count may not even have any meaning at all (see for example distributed, P2P filesystems, fs that store file lists as a linked list, or database-backed filesystems...). So yes,

new File(<directory path>).list().length

is probably your best bet.

What does a (+) sign mean in an Oracle SQL WHERE clause?

This is an Oracle-specific notation for an outer join. It means that it will include all rows from t1, and use NULLS in the t0 columns if there is no corresponding row in t0.

In standard SQL one would write:

SELECT t0.foo, t1.bar
  FROM FIRST_TABLE t0
 RIGHT OUTER JOIN SECOND_TABLE t1;

Oracle recommends not to use those joins anymore if your version supports ANSI joins (LEFT/RIGHT JOIN) :

Oracle recommends that you use the FROM clause OUTER JOIN syntax rather than the Oracle join operator. Outer join queries that use the Oracle join operator (+) are subject to the following rules and restrictions […]

openCV program compile error "libopencv_core.so.2.4: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory" in ubuntu 12.04

You haven't put the shared library in a location where the loader can find it. look inside the /usr/local/opencv and /usr/local/opencv2 folders and see if either of them contains any shared libraries (files beginning in lib and usually ending in .so). when you find them, create a file called /etc/ld.so.conf.d/opencv.conf and write to it the paths to the folders where the libraries are stored, one per line.

for example, if the libraries were stored under /usr/local/opencv/libopencv_core.so.2.4 then I would write this to my opencv.conf file:

/usr/local/opencv/

Then run

sudo ldconfig -v

If you can't find the libraries, try running

sudo updatedb && locate libopencv_core.so.2.4

in a shell. You don't need to run updatedb if you've rebooted since compiling OpenCV.

Can angularjs routes have optional parameter values?

Please see @jlareau answer here: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/11534710/angularjs-how-to-use-routeparams-in-generating-the-templateurl

You can use a function to generate the template string:

var app = angular.module('app',[]);

app.config(
    function($routeProvider) {
        $routeProvider.
            when('/', {templateUrl:'/home'}).
            when('/users/:user_id',
                {
                    controller:UserView,
                    templateUrl: function(params){ return '/users/view/' + params.user_id;   }
                }
            ).
            otherwise({redirectTo:'/'});
    }
);

How can I create an editable dropdownlist in HTML?

I am not sure there is a way to do it automatically without javascript.

What you need is something which runs on the browser side to submit your form back to the server when they user makes a selection - hence, javascript.

Also, ensure you have an alternate means (i.e. a submit button) for those who have javascript turned off.

A good example: Combo-Box Viewer

I had even a more sophisticated combo-box yesterday, with this dhtmlxCombo , using ajax to retrieve pertinent values amongst large quantity of data.

How to use IntelliJ IDEA to find all unused code?

After you've run the Inspect by Name, select all the locations, and make use of the Apply quick fixes to all the problems drop-down, and use either (or both) of Delete unused parameter(s) and Safe Delete.

Don't forget to hit Do Refactor afterwards.

Then you'll need to run another analysis, as the refactored code will no doubt reveal more unused declarations.

Apply quick fixes to all the problems

Regular expression "^[a-zA-Z]" or "[^a-zA-Z]"

^ outside of the character class ("[a-zA-Z]") notes that it is the "begins with" operator.
^ inside of the character negates the specified class.

So, "^[a-zA-Z]" translates to "begins with character from a-z or A-Z", and "[^a-zA-Z]" translates to "is not either a-z or A-Z"

Here's a quick reference: http://www.regular-expressions.info/reference.html

When does Java's Thread.sleep throw InterruptedException?

A solid and easy way to handle it in single threaded code would be to catch it and retrow it in a RuntimeException, to avoid the need to declare it for every method.

Switch case: can I use a range instead of a one number

To complete the thread, here is the syntax with C# 8 :

  var percent = price switch
  {
    var n when n >= 1000000 => 7f,
    var n when n >= 900000 => 7.1f,
    var n when n >= 800000 => 7.2f,
    _ => 0f // default value
  };

If you want to specify the ranges :

  var percent2 = price switch
  {
    var n when n >= 1000000 => 7f,
    var n when n < 1000000 && n >= 900000 => 7.1f,
    var n when n < 900000 && n >= 800000 => 7.2f,
    _ => 0f // default value

CMD Cheat Sheet

  • Cmd.exe

  • Getting Help

  • Punctuation

  • Naming Files

  • Starting Programs

  • Keys

CMD.exe

First thing to remember its a way of operating a computer. It's the way we did it before WIMP (Windows, Icons, Mouse, Popup menus) became common. It owes it roots to CPM, VMS, and Unix. It was used to start programs and copy and delete files. Also you could change the time and date.

For help on starting CMD type cmd /?. You must start it with either the /k or /c switch unless you just want to type in it.

Getting Help

For general help. Type Help in the command prompt. For each command listed type help <command> (eg help dir) or <command> /? (eg dir /?).

Some commands have sub commands. For example schtasks /create /?.

The NET command's help is unusual. Typing net use /? is brief help. Type net help use for full help. The same applies at the root - net /? is also brief help, use net help.

References in Help to new behaviour are describing changes from CMD in OS/2 and Windows NT4 to the current CMD which is in Windows 2000 and later.

WMIC is a multipurpose command. Type wmic /?.

Punctuation

& seperates commands on a line.

&& executes this command only if previous command's errorlevel is 0.

|| (not used above) executes this command only if previous command's
errorlevel is NOT 0

>    output to a file

>> append output to a file

<    input from a file

2> Redirects command error output to the file specified. (0 is StdInput, 1 is StdOutput, and 2 is StdError)

2>&1 Redirects command error output to the same location as command output.

| output of one command into the input of another command

^ escapes any of the above, including itself, if needed to be passed
to a program

" parameters with spaces must be enclosed in quotes

+ used with copy to concatenate files. E.G. copy file1+file2 newfile

, used with copy to indicate missing parameters. This updates the files
modified date. E.G. copy /b file1,,

%variablename% a inbuilt or user set environmental variable

!variablename! a user set environmental variable expanded at execution
time, turned with SelLocal EnableDelayedExpansion command

%<number> (%1) the nth command line parameter passed to a batch file. %0
is the batchfile's name.

%* (%*) the entire command line.

%CMDCMDLINE% - expands to the original command line that invoked the
Command Processor (from set /?).

%<a letter> or %%<a letter> (%A or %%A) the variable in a for loop.
Single % sign at command prompt and double % sign in a batch file.

\\ (\\servername\sharename\folder\file.ext) access files and folders via UNC naming.

: (win.ini:streamname) accesses an alternative steam. Also separates drive from rest of path.

. (win.ini) the LAST dot in a file path separates the name from extension

. (dir .\*.txt) the current directory

.. (cd ..) the parent directory

\\?\ (\\?\c:\windows\win.ini) When a file path is prefixed with \\?\ filename checks are turned off.

Naming Files

< > : " / \ | Reserved characters. May not be used in filenames.

Reserved names. These refer to devices eg,

copy filename con

which copies a file to the console window.

CON, PRN, AUX, NUL, COM1, COM2, COM3, COM4,

COM5, COM6, COM7, COM8, COM9, LPT1, LPT2,

LPT3, LPT4, LPT5, LPT6, LPT7, LPT8, and LPT9

CONIN$, CONOUT$, CONERR$

--------------------------------

Maximum path length              260 characters
Maximum path length (\\?\) 32,767 characters (approx - some rare characters use 2 characters of storage)
Maximum filename length        255 characters

Starting a Program

See start /? and call /? for help on all three ways.

There are two types of Windows programs - console or non console (these are called GUI even if they don't have one). Console programs attach to the current console or Windows creates a new console. GUI programs have to explicitly create their own windows.

If a full path isn't given then Windows looks in

  1. The directory from which the application loaded.

  2. The current directory for the parent process.

  3. Windows NT/2000/XP: The 32-bit Windows system directory. Use the GetSystemDirectory function to get the path of this directory. The name of this directory is System32.

  4. Windows NT/2000/XP: The 16-bit Windows system directory. There is no function that obtains the path of this directory, but it is searched. The name of this directory is System.

  5. The Windows directory. Use the GetWindowsDirectory function to get the path of this directory.

  6. The directories that are listed in the PATH environment variable.

Specify a program name

This is the standard way to start a program.

c:\windows\notepad.exe

In a batch file the batch will wait for the program to exit. When typed the command prompt does not wait for graphical programs to exit.

If the program is a batch file control is transferred and the rest of the calling batch file is not executed.

Use Start command

Start starts programs in non standard ways.

start "" c:\windows\notepad.exe

Start starts a program and does not wait. Console programs start in a new window. Using the /b switch forces console programs into the same window, which negates the main purpose of Start.

Start uses the Windows graphical shell - same as typing in WinKey + R (Run dialog). Try

start shell:cache

Also program names registered under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths can also be typed without specifying a full path.

Also note the first set of quotes, if any, MUST be the window title.

Use Call command

Call is used to start batch files and wait for them to exit and continue the current batch file.

Other Filenames

Typing a non program filename is the same as double clicking the file.

Keys

Ctrl + C exits a program without exiting the console window.

For other editing keys type Doskey /?.

How to Verify if file exist with VB script

There is no built-in functionality in VBS for that, however, you can use the FileSystemObject FileExists function for that :

If (fso.FileExists("C:\Program Files\conf")) Then
  WScript.Echo("File exists!")
  WScript.Quit()

How do I get the current timezone name in Postgres 9.3?

This may or may not help you address your problem, OP, but to get the timezone of the current server relative to UTC (UT1, technically), do:

SELECT EXTRACT(TIMEZONE FROM now())/3600.0;

The above works by extracting the UT1-relative offset in minutes, and then converting it to hours using the factor of 3600 secs/hour.

Example:

SET SESSION timezone TO 'Asia/Kabul';
SELECT EXTRACT(TIMEZONE FROM now())/3600.0;
-- output: 4.5 (as of the writing of this post)

How to change the color of a button?

The RIGHT way...

The following methods actually work.

if you wish - using a theme
By default a buttons color is android:colorAccent. So, if you create a style like this...

<style name="Button.White" parent="ThemeOverlay.AppCompat">
    <item name="colorAccent">@android:color/white</item>
</style>

You can use it like this...

<Button
    android:layout_width="wrap_content"
    android:layout_height="wrap_content"
    android:theme="@style/Button.White"
    />

alternatively - using a tint
You can simply add android:backgroundTint for API Level 21 and higher, or app:backgroundTint for API Level 7 and higher.

For more information, see this blog.

The problem with the accepted answer...

If you replace the background with a color you will loose the effect of the button, and the color will be applied to the entire area of the button. It will not respect the padding, shadow, and corner radius.

Closing JFrame with button click

You cat use setVisible () method of JFrame (and set visibility to false) or dispose () method which is more similar to close operation.

Set up an HTTP proxy to insert a header

I do something like this in my development environment by configuring Apache on port 80 as a proxy for my application server on port 8080, with the following Apache config:

NameVirtualHost *
<VirtualHost *>
   <Proxy http://127.0.0.1:8080/*>
      Allow from all
   </Proxy>
   <LocationMatch "/myapp">
      ProxyPass http://127.0.0.1:8080/myapp
      ProxyPassReverse http://127.0.0.1:8080/myapp
      Header add myheader "myvalue"
      RequestHeader set myheader "myvalue"
   </LocationMatch>
</VirtualHost>

See LocationMatch and RequestHeader documentation.

This adds the header myheader: myvalue to requests going to the application server.

How to use table variable in a dynamic sql statement?

I don't think that is possible (though refer to the update below); as far as I know a table variable only exists within the scope that declared it. You can, however, use a temp table (use the create table syntax and prefix your table name with the # symbol), and that will be accessible within both the scope that creates it and the scope of your dynamic statement.

UPDATE: Refer to Martin Smith's answer for how to use a table-valued parameter to pass a table variable in to a dynamic SQL statement. Also note the limitation mentioned: table-valued parameters are read-only.

How to create a remote Git repository from a local one?

A remote repository is generally a bare repository — a Git repository that has no working directory. Because the repository is only used as a collaboration point, there is no reason to have a snapshot checked out on disk; it’s just the Git data. In the simplest terms, a bare repository is the contents of your project’s .git directory and nothing else.

You can make a bare git repository with the following code:

$ git clone --bare /path/to/project project.git

One options for having a remote git repository is using SSH protocol:

A common transport protocol for Git when self-hosting is over SSH. This is because SSH access to servers is already set up in most places — and if it isn’t, it’s easy to do. SSH is also an authenticated network protocol and, because it’s ubiquitous, it’s generally easy to set up and use.

To clone a Git repository over SSH, you can specify an ssh:// URL like this:

$ git clone ssh://[user@]server/project.git

Or you can use the shorter scp-like syntax for the SSH protocol:

$ git clone [user@]server:project.git

In both cases above, if you don’t specify the optional username, Git assumes the user you’re currently logged in as.

The Pros

The pros of using SSH are many. First, SSH is relatively easy to set up — SSH daemons are commonplace, many network admins have experience with them, and many OS distributions are set up with them or have tools to manage them. Next, access over SSH is secure — all data transfer is encrypted and authenticated. Last, like the HTTPS, Git and Local protocols, SSH is efficient, making the data as compact as possible before transferring it.

The Cons

The negative aspect of SSH is that it doesn’t support anonymous access to your Git repository. If you’re using SSH, people must have SSH access to your machine, even in a read-only capacity, which doesn’t make SSH conducive to open source projects for which people might simply want to clone your repository to examine it. If you’re using it only within your corporate network, SSH may be the only protocol you need to deal with. If you want to allow anonymous read-only access to your projects and also want to use SSH, you’ll have to set up SSH for you to push over but something else for others to fetch from.

How to copy marked text in notepad++

I am adding this for completeness as this post hits high in Google search results.

You can actually copy all from a regex search, just not in one step.

  1. Use Mark under Search and enter the regex in Find What.
  2. Select Bookmark Line and click Mark All.
  3. Click Search -> Bookmark -> Copy Bookmarked Lines.
  4. Paste into a new document.
  5. You may need to remove some unwanted text in the line that was not part of the regex with a search and replace.

How to style SVG <g> element?

          <ellipse fill="#FF0000" stroke="#000000" stroke-width="5" stroke-dasharray="null" stroke-linejoin="null" stroke-linecap="null" cx="155" cy="65" id="svg_7" rx="64" ry="56"/>
        </svg>
          <style>
              #G {
                background: #cff; border: 1px dashed black;
              }
              #G:hover {
                background: #acc; border: 1px solid black;
              }
          </style>
      </foreignObject>
    </svg>

Typescript import/as vs import/require?

These are mostly equivalent, but import * has some restrictions that import ... = require doesn't.

import * as creates an identifier that is a module object, emphasis on object. According to the ES6 spec, this object is never callable or newable - it only has properties. If you're trying to import a function or class, you should use

import express = require('express');

or (depending on your module loader)

import express from 'express';

Attempting to use import * as express and then invoking express() is always illegal according to the ES6 spec. In some runtime+transpilation environments this might happen to work anyway, but it might break at any point in the future without warning, which will make you sad.

C# Checking if button was clicked

Click is an event that fires immediately after you release the mouse button. So if you want to check in the handler for button2.Click if button1 was clicked before, all you could do is have a handler for button1.Click which sets a bool flag of your own making to true.

private bool button1WasClicked = false;

private void button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
    button1WasClicked = true;
}

private void button2_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
    if (textBox2.Text == textBox3.Text && button1WasClicked)
    {
        StreamWriter myWriter = File.CreateText(@"c:\Program Files\text.txt");
        myWriter.WriteLine(textBox1.Text);
        myWriter.WriteLine(textBox2.Text);
        button1WasClicked = false;
    }
}

Bootstrap 3 - How to load content in modal body via AJAX?

This is actually super simple with just a little bit of added javascript. The link's href is used as the ajax content source. Note that for Bootstrap 3.* we set data-remote="false" to disable the deprecated Bootstrap load function.

JavaScript:

// Fill modal with content from link href
$("#myModal").on("show.bs.modal", function(e) {
    var link = $(e.relatedTarget);
    $(this).find(".modal-body").load(link.attr("href"));
});

Html (based on the official example):

<!-- Link trigger modal -->
<a href="remoteContent.html" data-remote="false" data-toggle="modal" data-target="#myModal" class="btn btn-default">
    Launch Modal
</a>

<!-- Default bootstrap modal example -->
<div class="modal fade" id="myModal" tabindex="-1" role="dialog" aria-labelledby="myModalLabel" aria-hidden="true">
  <div class="modal-dialog">
    <div class="modal-content">
      <div class="modal-header">
        <button type="button" class="close" data-dismiss="modal" aria-label="Close"><span aria-hidden="true">&times;</span></button>
        <h4 class="modal-title" id="myModalLabel">Modal title</h4>
      </div>
      <div class="modal-body">

Signtool error: No certificates were found that met all given criteria with a Windows Store App?

My problem ended up being that I did not understand the signtool options. I had provided the /n option with something that did not match my certificate. When I removed that it stopped complaining.

Elasticsearch difference between MUST and SHOULD bool query

As said in the documentation:

Must: The clause (query) must appear in matching documents.

Should: The clause (query) should appear in the matching document. In a boolean query with no must clauses, one or more should clauses must match a document. The minimum number of should clauses to match can be set using the minimum_should_match parameter.

In other words, results will have to be matched by all the queries present in the must clause ( or match at least one of the should clauses if there is no must clause.

Since you want your results to satisfy all the queries, you should use must.

You can indeed use filters inside a boolean query.

Seaborn plots not showing up

Plots created using seaborn need to be displayed like ordinary matplotlib plots. This can be done using the

plt.show()

function from matplotlib.

Originally I posted the solution to use the already imported matplotlib object from seaborn (sns.plt.show()) however this is considered to be a bad practice. Therefore, simply directly import the matplotlib.pyplot module and show your plots with

import matplotlib.pyplot as plt
plt.show()

If the IPython notebook is used the inline backend can be invoked to remove the necessity of calling show after each plot. The respective magic is

%matplotlib inline

Is there a Python equivalent of the C# null-coalescing operator?

In addition to Juliano's answer about behavior of "or": it's "fast"

>>> 1 or 5/0
1

So sometimes it's might be a useful shortcut for things like

object = getCachedVersion() or getFromDB()

Differences between hard real-time, soft real-time, and firm real-time?

Hard real time systems uses preemptive version of priority scheduling, so that critical tasks get immediately scheduled, whereas soft real time systems uses non-preemptive version of the priority scheduling, which allows the present task to be finished before control is transferred to the higher priority task, causing additional delays. Thus the task deadlines are critically followed in Hard real time systems, whereas in soft real time systems they are handled not that seriously.

Does Google Chrome work with Selenium IDE (as Firefox does)?

If you want to harness Selenium IDE record & playback capabilities for Chrome browser there is an equivalent extension for Chrome called Scirocco. You can add it to Chrome by visiting here using your Chrome browser https://chrome.google.com/webstore/search/scirocco

Scirocco is created by Sonix Asia and is not as polished as Selenium IDE for Firefox. It is in fact quite buggy in places. But it does what you ask.

How to change date format using jQuery?

I dont think you need to use jQuery at all, just simple JavaScript...

Save the date as a string:

dte = fecha.value;//2014-01-06

Split the string to get the day, month & year values...

dteSplit = dte.split("-");
yr = dteSplit[0][2] + dteSplit[0][3]; //special yr format, take last 2 digits
month = dteSplit[1];
day = dteSplit[2];

Rejoin into final date string:

finalDate = month+"-"+day+"-"+year

How to install gdb (debugger) in Mac OSX El Capitan?

Here's a blog post explains it very well:

http://panks.me/posts/2013/11/install-gdb-on-os-x-mavericks-from-source/

And the way I get it working:

  1. Create a coding signing certificate via KeyChain Access:

    1.1 From the Menu, select KeyChain Access > Certificate Assistant > Create a Certificate...

    1.2 Follow the wizard to create a certificate and let's name it gdb-cert, the Identity Type is Self Signed Root, and the Certificate Type is Code Signing and select the Let me override defaults.

    1.3 Click several times on Continue until you get to the Specify a Location For The Certificate screen, then set Keychain to System.

  2. Install gdb via Homebrew: brew install gdb

  3. Restart taskgated: sudo killall taskgated && exit

  4. Reopen a Terminal window and type sudo codesign -vfs gdb-cert /usr/local/bin/gdb

How to make readonly all inputs in some div in Angular2?

Try this in input field:

[readonly]="true"

Hope, this will work.

Including jars in classpath on commandline (javac or apt)

Try the following:

java -cp jar1:jar2:jar3:dir1:. HelloWorld

The default classpath (unless there is a CLASSPATH environment variable) is the current directory so if you redefine it, make sure you're adding the current directory (.) to the classpath as I have done.

How can I run dos2unix on an entire directory?

If it's a large directory you may want to consider running with multiple processors:

find . -type f -print0 | xargs -0 -n 1 -P 4 dos2unix

This will pass 1 file at a time, and use 4 processors.

Detach (move) subdirectory into separate Git repository

Paul's answer creates a new repository containing /ABC, but does not remove /ABC from within /XYZ. The following command will remove /ABC from within /XYZ:

git filter-branch --tree-filter "rm -rf ABC" --prune-empty HEAD

Of course, test it in a 'clone --no-hardlinks' repository first, and follow it with the reset, gc and prune commands Paul lists.

getting the difference between date in days in java

Use JodaTime for this. It is much better than the standard Java DateTime Apis. Here is the code in JodaTime for calculating difference in days:

private static void dateDiff() {

    System.out.println("Calculate difference between two dates");
    System.out.println("=================================================================");

    DateTime startDate = new DateTime(2000, 1, 19, 0, 0, 0, 0);
    DateTime endDate = new DateTime();

    Days d = Days.daysBetween(startDate, endDate);
    int days = d.getDays();

    System.out.println("  Difference between " + endDate);
    System.out.println("  and " + startDate + " is " + days + " days.");

  }

How to retrieve a user environment variable in CMake (Windows)

Environment variables (that you modify using the System Properties) are only propagated to subshells when you create a new subshell.

If you had a command line prompt (DOS or cygwin) open when you changed the User env vars, then they won't show up.

You need to open a new command line prompt after you change the user settings.

The equivalent in Unix/Linux is adding a line to your .bash_rc: you need to start a new shell to get the values.
