Import existing source code to GitHub

This is explained in the excellent free eBook ProGit. It assumes you already have a local Git repository and a remote one. To connect them use:

$ git remote
origin
$ git remote add pb git://github.com/paulboone/ticgit.git
$ git remote -v
origin    git://github.com/schacon/ticgit.git
pb    git://github.com/paulboone/ticgit.git

To push the data from the local repository to GitHub use:

$ git push pb master

If you have not setup a local and/or a remote repository yet, check out the help on GitHub and the previous chapters in the book.

What is the difference between ports 465 and 587?

I don't want to name names, but someone appears to be completely wrong. The referenced standards body stated the following: submissions 465 tcp Message Submission over TLS protocol [IESG] [IETF_Chair] 2017-12-12 [RFC8314]

If you are so inclined, you may wish to read the referenced RFC.

This seems to clearly imply that port 465 is the best way to force encrypted communication and be sure that it is in place. Port 587 offers no such guarantee.

MySQL stored procedure vs function, which would I use when?

A stored function can be used within a query. You could then apply it to every row, or within a WHERE clause.

A procedure is executed using the CALL query.

Eclipse internal error while initializing Java tooling

Sometimes the issue is with the version of the Java installed. I was facing a similar issue when trying to start Spring Tool Suite on my Ubuntu 16.04. I had java 9 installed on my machine. I changed it to java 8. And it started working.

Fastest way to list all primes below N

Using Sundaram's Sieve, I think I broke pure-Python's record:

def sundaram3(max_n):
    numbers = range(3, max_n+1, 2)
    half = (max_n)//2
    initial = 4

    for step in xrange(3, max_n+1, 2):
        for i in xrange(initial, half, step):
            numbers[i-1] = 0
        initial += 2*(step+1)

        if initial > half:
            return [2] + filter(None, numbers)

Comparasion:

C:\USERS>python -m timeit -n10 -s "import get_primes" "get_primes.get_primes_erat(1000000)"
10 loops, best of 3: 710 msec per loop

C:\USERS>python -m timeit -n10 -s "import get_primes" "get_primes.daniel_sieve_2(1000000)"
10 loops, best of 3: 435 msec per loop

C:\USERS>python -m timeit -n10 -s "import get_primes" "get_primes.sundaram3(1000000)"
10 loops, best of 3: 327 msec per loop

Adding padding to a tkinter widget only on one side

There are multiple ways of doing that you can use either place or grid or even the packmethod.

Sample code:

from tkinter import *
root = Tk()

l = Label(root, text="hello" )
l.pack(padx=6, pady=4) # where padx and pady represent the x and y axis respectively
# well you can also use side=LEFT inside the pack method of the label widget.

To place a widget to on basis of columns and rows , use the grid method:

but = Button(root, text="hello" )
but.grid(row=0, column=1)

How to get HQ youtube thumbnails?

Are you referring to the full resolution one?:

I don't believe you can get 'multiple' images of HQ because the one you have is the one.

For live videos use https://img.youtube.com/vi/<insert-youtube-video-id-here>/maxresdefault_live.jpg

Select DISTINCT individual columns in django?

One way to get the list of distinct column names from the database is to use distinct() in conjunction with values().

In your case you can do the following to get the names of distinct categories:

q = ProductOrder.objects.values('Category').distinct()
print q.query # See for yourself.

# The query would look something like
# SELECT DISTINCT "app_productorder"."category" FROM "app_productorder"

There are a couple of things to remember here. First, this will return a ValuesQuerySet which behaves differently from a QuerySet. When you access say, the first element of q (above) you'll get a dictionary, NOT an instance of ProductOrder.

Second, it would be a good idea to read the warning note in the docs about using distinct(). The above example will work but all combinations of distinct() and values() may not.

PS: it is a good idea to use lower case names for fields in a model. In your case this would mean rewriting your model as shown below:

class ProductOrder(models.Model):
    product  = models.CharField(max_length=20, primary_key=True)
    category = models.CharField(max_length=30)
    rank = models.IntegerField()

jquery - How to determine if a div changes its height or any css attribute?

Please don't use techniques described in other answers here. They are either not working with css3 animations size changes, floating layout changes or changes that don't come from jQuery land. You can use a resize-detector, a event-based approach, that doesn't waste your CPU time.

https://github.com/marcj/css-element-queries

It contains a ResizeSensor class you can use for that purpose.

new ResizeSensor(jQuery('#mainContent'), function(){
    console.log('main content dimension changed');

How to declare a global variable in a .js file

As mentioned above, there are issues with using the top-most scope in your script file. Here is another issue: The script file might be run from a context that is not the global context in some run-time environment.

It has been proposed to assign the global to window directly. But that is also run-time dependent and does not work in Node etc. It goes to show that portable global variable management needs some careful consideration and extra effort. Maybe they will fix it in future ECMS versions!

For now, I would recommend something like this to support proper global management for all run-time environments:

/**
 * Exports the given object into the global context.
 */
var exportGlobal = function(name, object) {
    if (typeof(global) !== "undefined")  {
        // Node.js
        global[name] = object;
    }
    else if (typeof(window) !== "undefined") {
        // JS with GUI (usually browser)
        window[name] = object;
    }
    else {
        throw new Error("Unkown run-time environment. Currently only browsers and Node.js are supported.");
    }
};

// export exportGlobal itself
exportGlobal("exportGlobal", exportGlobal);

// create a new global namespace
exportGlobal("someothernamespace", {});

It's a bit more typing, but it makes your global variable management future-proof.

Disclaimer: Part of this idea came to me when looking at previous versions of stacktrace.js.

I reckon, one can also use Webpack or other tools to get more reliable and less hackish detection of the run-time environment.

The infamous java.sql.SQLException: No suitable driver found

You will get this same error if there is not a Resource definition provided somewhere for your app -- most likely either in the central context.xml, or individual context file in conf/Catalina/localhost. And if using individual context files, beware that Tomcat freely deletes them anytime you remove/undeploy the corresponding .war file.

How to scale an Image in ImageView to keep the aspect ratio

in case of using cardviewfor rounding imageview and fixed android:layout_height for header this worked for me to load image with Glide

    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>

Easy way to write contents of a Java InputStream to an OutputStream

For those who use Spring framework there is a useful StreamUtils class:

StreamUtils.copy(in, out);

The above does not close the streams. If you want the streams closed after the copy, use FileCopyUtils class instead:

FileCopyUtils.copy(in, out);

How can I pass an argument to a PowerShell script?

You can also define a variable directly in the PowerShell command line and then execute the script. The variable will be defined there, too. This helped me in a case where I couldn't modify a signed script.

Example:

 PS C:\temp> $stepsize = 30
 PS C:\temp> .\itunesForward.ps1

with iTunesForward.ps1 being

$iTunes = New-Object -ComObject iTunes.Application

if ($iTunes.playerstate -eq 1)
{
  $iTunes.PlayerPosition = $iTunes.PlayerPosition + $stepsize
}

What is String pool in Java?

This prints true (even though we don't use equals method: correct way to compare strings)

    String s = "a" + "bc";
    String t = "ab" + "c";
    System.out.println(s == t);

When compiler optimizes your string literals, it sees that both s and t have same value and thus you need only one string object. It's safe because String is immutable in Java.
As result, both s and t point to the same object and some little memory saved.

Name 'string pool' comes from the idea that all already defined string are stored in some 'pool' and before creating new String object compiler checks if such string is already defined.

How to resolve "The requested URL was rejected. Please consult with your administrator." error?

Your http is being blocked by a firewall from F5 Networks called Application Security Manager (ASM). It produces messages like:

Please consult with your administrator.
Your support ID is: xxxxxxxxxxxx

So your application is passing some data that for some reason ASM detects as a threat. Give the support id to you network engineer to learn the specific reason.

Delete with "Join" in Oracle sql Query

Recently I learned of the following syntax:

DELETE (SELECT *
        FROM productfilters pf
        INNER JOIN product pr
            ON pf.productid = pr.id
        WHERE pf.id >= 200
            AND pr.NAME = 'MARK')

I think it looks much cleaner then other proposed code.

How to write palindrome in JavaScript

Try this:

var isPalindrome = function (string) {
    if (string == string.split('').reverse().join('')) {
        alert(string + ' is palindrome.');
    }
    else {
        alert(string + ' is not palindrome.');
    }
}

document.getElementById('form_id').onsubmit = function() {
   isPalindrome(document.getElementById('your_input').value);
}

So this script alerts the result, is it palindrome or not. You need to change the your_id with your input id and form_id with your form id to get this work.

How to use doxygen to create UML class diagrams from C++ source

The 2 highest upvoted answers are correct. As of today, the only thing I needed to change (from default settings) was to enable generation using dot instead of the built-in generator.

Some important notes:

  • Doxygen will not generate an actual full diagram of all classes in the project. It will generate a separate image for each hierarchy. If you have multiple, unrelated class hierarchies you will get multiple images.
  • All these diagrams can be found in html/inherits.html or (from the website navigation) classes => class hierarchy => "Go to the textual class hierarchy".
  • This is a C++ question, so let's talk about templates. Especially if you inherit from T.
    • Each template instantiation will be correctly considered a different type by Doxygen. Types which inherit from different instantations will have different parent classes on the diagram.
    • If a class template foo inherits from T and the T template type parameter has a default, such default will be assumed. If there is a type bar which inherits from foo<U> where U is different than the default, bar will have a foo<U> parent. foo<> and bar<U> will not have a common parent.
    • If there are multiple class templates which inherit from at least one of their template parameters, Doxygen will assume a common parent for these class templates as long as the template type parameters have exactly the same names in the code. This incentivizes for consistency in naming.
    • CRTP and reverse CRTP just work.
    • Recursive template inheritance trees are not expanded. Any variant instantiation will be displayed to inherit from variant<Ts...>.
    • Class templates with no instantiations are being drawn. They will have a <...> string in their name representing type and non-type parameters which did not have defaults.
    • Class template full and partial specializations are also being drawn. Doxygen generates correct graphs if specializations inherit from different types.

Comparing arrays in JUnit assertions, concise built-in way?

I prefer to convert arrays to strings:

Assert.assertEquals(
                Arrays.toString(values),
                Arrays.toString(new int[] { 7, 8, 9, 3 }));

this way I can see clearly where wrong values are. This works effectively only for small sized arrays, but I rarely use arrays with more items than 7 in my unit tests.

This method works for primitive types and for other types when overload of toString returns all essential information.

How to type ":" ("colon") in regexp?

In most regex implementations (including Java's), : has no special meaning, neither inside nor outside a character class.

Your problem is most likely due to the fact the - acts as a range operator in your class:

[A-Za-z0-9.,-:]*

where ,-: matches all ascii characters between ',' and ':'. Note that it still matches the literal ':' however!

Try this instead:

[A-Za-z0-9.,:-]*

By placing - at the start or the end of the class, it matches the literal "-". As mentioned in the comments by Keoki Zee, you can also escape the - inside the class, but most people simply add it at the end.

A demo:

public class Test {
    public static void main(String[] args) {
        System.out.println("8:".matches("[,-:]+"));      // true: '8' is in the range ','..':'
        System.out.println("8:".matches("[,:-]+"));      // false: '8' does not match ',' or ':' or '-'
        System.out.println(",,-,:,:".matches("[,:-]+")); // true: all chars match ',' or ':' or '-'
    }
}

How to get HTTP response code for a URL in Java?

HttpURLConnection:

URL url = new URL("http://example.com");
HttpURLConnection connection = (HttpURLConnection)url.openConnection();
connection.setRequestMethod("GET");

Oracle query execution time

One can issue the SQL*Plus command SET TIMING ON to get wall-clock times, but one can't take, for example, fetch time out of that trivially.

The AUTOTRACE setting, when used as SET AUTOTRACE TRACEONLY will suppress output, but still perform all of the work to satisfy the query and send the results back to SQL*Plus, which will suppress it.

Lastly, one can trace the SQL*Plus session, and manually calculate the time spent waiting on events which are client waits, such as "SQL*Net message to client", "SQL*Net message from client".

qmake: could not find a Qt installation of ''

I had this problem building jasmine-headless-webkit Ruby gem. Despite having qt4 installed, qmake (a symlink to qtchooser) insisted it didn't know about a QT installation. OTOH, it was able to list qt4 when asked directly.

This made everything better:

export QT_SELECT=qt4

qtchooser then knew to use qmake-qt4, and so on.

'No database provider has been configured for this DbContext' on SignInManager.PasswordSignInAsync

I could resolve it by overriding Configuration in MyContext through adding connection string to the DbContextOptionsBuilder:

protected override void OnConfiguring(DbContextOptionsBuilder optionsBuilder)

        {
            IConfigurationRoot configuration = new ConfigurationBuilder()
               .SetBasePath(Directory.GetCurrentDirectory())
               .AddJsonFile("appsettings.json")
               .Build();
            var connectionString = configuration.GetConnectionString("DbCoreConnectionString");
            optionsBuilder.UseSqlServer(connectionString);
        }
    }

As said Will Wagner, in old version of jsp you should always use c:out to output dynamic text.

Moreover, using this syntax:

you can display the text "No name" when name is null.

Get page title with Selenium WebDriver using Java

You can do it easily by Assertion using Selenium Testng framework.

Steps:

1.Create Firefox browser session

2.Initialize expected title name.

3.Navigate to "www.google.com" [As per you requirement, you can change] and wait for some time (15 seconds) to load the page completely.

4.Get the actual title name using "driver.getTitle()" and store it in String variable.

5.Apply the Assertion like below, Assert.assertTrue(actualGooglePageTitlte.equalsIgnoreCase(expectedGooglePageTitle ),"Page title name not matched or Problem in loading grid");

import org.openqa.selenium.WebDriver;
import org.openqa.selenium.firefox.FirefoxDriver;
import org.testng.Assert;

How do I quickly rename a MySQL database (change schema name)?

There is a reason you cannot do this. (despite all the attempted answers)

  • Basic answers will work in many cases, and in others cause data corruptions.
  • A strategy needs to be chosen based on heuristic analysis of your database.
  • That is the reason this feature was implemented, and then removed. [doc]

You'll need to dump all object types in that database, create the newly named one and then import the dump. If this is a live system you'll need to take it down. If you cannot, then you will need to setup replication from this database to the new one.

If you want to see the commands that could do this, @satishD has the details, which conveys some of the challenges around which you'll need to build a strategy that matches your target database.

Differences between fork and exec

I think some concepts from "Advanced Unix Programming" by Marc Rochkind were helpful in understanding the different roles of fork()/exec(), especially for someone used to the Windows CreateProcess() model:

A program is a collection of instructions and data that is kept in a regular file on disk. (from 1.1.2 Programs, Processes, and Threads)

.

In order to run a program, the kernel is first asked to create a new process, which is an environment in which a program executes. (also from 1.1.2 Programs, Processes, and Threads)

.

It’s impossible to understand the exec or fork system calls without fully understanding the distinction between a process and a program. If these terms are new to you, you may want to go back and review Section 1.1.2. If you’re ready to proceed now, we’ll summarize the distinction in one sentence: A process is an execution environment that consists of instruction, user-data, and system-data segments, as well as lots of other resources acquired at runtime, whereas a program is a file containing instructions and data that are used to initialize the instruction and user-data segments of a process. (from 5.3 exec System Calls)

Once you understand the distinction between a program and a process, the behavior of fork() and exec() function can be summarized as:

  • fork() creates a duplicate of the current process
  • exec() replaces the program in the current process with another program

(this is essentially a simplified 'for dummies' version of paxdiablo's much more detailed answer)

How to distinguish between left and right mouse click with jQuery

Convert char array to a int number in C

Why not just use atoi? For example:

char myarray[4] = {'-','1','2','3'};

printf("%d\n", i);

Gives me, as expected:

-123

Update: why not - the character array is not null terminated. Doh!

SQLite DateTime comparison

Below are the methods to compare the dates but before that we need to identify the format of date stored in DB

I have dates stored in MM/DD/YYYY HH:MM format so it has to be compared in that format

  1. Below query compares the convert the date into MM/DD/YYY format and get data from last five days till today. BETWEEN operator will help and you can simply specify start date AND end date.

    select * from myTable where myColumn BETWEEN strftime('%m/%d/%Y %H:%M', datetime('now','localtime'), '-5 day') AND strftime('%m/%d/%Y %H:%M',datetime('now','localtime'));

  2. Below query will use greater than operator (>).

      select * from myTable where myColumn > strftime('%m/%d/%Y %H:%M', datetime('now','localtime'), '-5 day');

All the computation I have done is using current time, you can change the format and date as per your need.

How do I size a UITextView to its content?

Guys using autolayout and your sizetofit isn't working, then please check your width constraint once. If you had missed the width constraint then the height will be accurate.

No need to use any other API. just one line would fix all the issue.

[_textView sizeToFit];

Here, I was only concerned with height, keeping the width fixed and had missed the width constraint of my TextView in storyboard.

And this was to show up the dynamic content from the services.

Hope this might help..

How do you append rows to a table using jQuery?

Add as first row or last row in a table

To add as first row in table

$(".table tbody").append("<tr><td>New row</td></tr>");

To add as last row in table

$(".table tbody").prepend("<tr><td>New row</td></tr>");

Chmod recursively

You can use chmod with the X mode letter (the capital X) to set the executable flag only for directories.

In the example below the executable flag is cleared and then set for all directories recursively:

~$ mkdir foo
~$ mkdir foo/bar
~$ mkdir foo/baz
~$ touch foo/x
~$ touch foo/y

~$ chmod -R go-X foo
~$ ls -l foo
total 8
drwxrw-r-- 2 wq wq 4096 Nov 14 15:31 bar
drwxrw-r-- 2 wq wq 4096 Nov 14 15:31 baz
-rw-rw-r-- 1 wq wq    0 Nov 14 15:31 x
-rw-rw-r-- 1 wq wq    0 Nov 14 15:31 y

~$ chmod -R go+X foo
~$ ls -l foo
total 8
drwxrwxr-x 2 wq wq 4096 Nov 14 15:31 bar
drwxrwxr-x 2 wq wq 4096 Nov 14 15:31 baz
-rw-rw-r-- 1 wq wq    0 Nov 14 15:31 x
-rw-rw-r-- 1 wq wq    0 Nov 14 15:31 y

A bit of explaination:

  • chmod -x foo - clear the eXecutable flag for foo
  • chmod +x foo - set the eXecutable flag for foo
  • chmod go+x foo - same as above, but set the flag only for Group and Other users, don't touch the User (owner) permission
  • chmod go+X foo - same as above, but apply only to directories, don't touch files
  • chmod -R go+X foo - same as above, but do this Recursively for all subdirectories of foo

Generating CSV file for Excel, how to have a newline inside a value

For File Open only, the syntax is

 ,"one\n
 two",...

The critical thing is that there is no space after the first ",". Normally spaces are fine, and trimmed if the string is not quoted. But otherwise nasty. Took me a while to figure that out.

It does not seem to matter if the line is ended \n or \c\n.

Make sure you expand the formula bar so you can actually see the text in the cell (got me after a long day...)

Now of course, File Open will not support UTF-8 Properly (unless one uses tricks).

Excel > Data > Get External Data > From Text

Can be set into UTF-8 mode (it is way down the list of fonts). However, in that case the new lines do not seem to work and I know no way to fix that.

(One might thing that after 30 years MS would get this stuff right.)

Getting reference to child component in parent component

You can use ViewChild

<child-tag #varName></child-tag>

@ViewChild('varName') someElement;

ngAfterViewInit() {
  someElement...
}

where varName is a template variable added to the element. Alternatively, you can query by component or directive type.

There are alternatives like ViewChildren, ContentChild, ContentChildren.

@ViewChildren can also be used in the constructor.

constructor(@ViewChildren('var1,var2,var3') childQuery:QueryList)

The advantage is that the result is available earlier.

See also http://www.bennadel.com/blog/3041-constructor-vs-property-querylist-injection-in-angular-2-beta-8.htm for some advantages/disadvantages of using the constructor or a field.

Note: @Query() is the deprecated predecessor of @ContentChildren()

Update

Query is currently just an abstract base class. I haven't found if it is used at all https://github.com/angular/angular/blob/2.1.x/modules/@angular/core/src/metadata/di.ts#L145

Use FontAwesome or Glyphicons with css :before

Re: using icon in :before – recent Font Awesome builds include the .fa-icon() mixin for SASS and LESS. This will automatically include the font-family as well as some rendering tweaks (e.g. -webkit-font-smoothing). Thus you can do, e.g.:

// Add "?" icon to header.
h1:before {
    .fa-icon();
    content: "\f059";
}

Add newly created specific folder to .gitignore in Git

It's /public_html/stats/*.

$ ~/myrepo> ls public_html/stats/
bar baz foo
$ ~/myrepo> cat .gitignore
public_html/stats/*
$ ~/myrepo> git status
# On branch master
#
# Initial commit
#
# Untracked files:
# (use "git add <file>..." to include in what will be committed)
#
#   .gitignore
nothing added to commit but untracked files present (use "git add" to track)
$ ~/myrepo>

How to show the "Are you sure you want to navigate away from this page?" when changes committed?

With JQuery this stuff is pretty easy to do. Since you can bind to sets.

Its NOT enough to do the onbeforeunload, you want to only trigger the navigate away if someone started editing stuff.

Escape curly brace '{' in String.Format

Use double braces {{ or }} so your code becomes:

sb.AppendLine(String.Format("public {0} {1} {{ get; private set; }}",
prop.Type, prop.Name));

// For prop.Type of "Foo" and prop.Name of "Bar", the result would be:
// public Foo Bar { get; private set; }

Using OR & AND in COUNTIFS

i found i had to do something akin to

=(countifs (A1:A196,"yes", j1:j196, "agree") + (countifs (A1:A196,"no", j1:j196, "agree"))

How can I save a base64-encoded image to disk?

I think you are converting the data a bit more than you need to. Once you create the buffer with the proper encoding, you just need to write the buffer to the file.

var base64Data = req.rawBody.replace(/^data:image\/png;base64,/, "");

require("fs").writeFile("out.png", base64Data, 'base64', function(err) {
  console.log(err);
});

new Buffer(..., 'base64') will convert the input string to a Buffer, which is just an array of bytes, by interpreting the input as a base64 encoded string. Then you can just write that byte array to the file.

Update

As mentioned in the comments, req.rawBody is no longer a thing. If you are using express/connect then you should use the bodyParser() middleware and use req.body, and if you are doing this using standard Node then you need to aggregate the incoming data event Buffer objects and do this image data parsing in the end callback.

Check if all values in list are greater than a certain number

...any reason why you can't use min()?

def above(my_list, minimum):

    else:

SQL join format - nested inner joins

For readability, I restructured the query... starting with the apparent top-most level being Table1, which then ties to Table3, and then table3 ties to table2. Much easier to follow if you follow the chain of relationships.

Now, to answer your question. You are getting a large count as the result of a Cartesian product. For each record in Table1 that matches in Table3 you will have X * Y. Then, for each match between table3 and Table2 will have the same impact... Y * Z... So your result for just one possible ID in table 1 can have X * Y * Z records.

This is based on not knowing how the normalization or content is for your tables... if the key is a PRIMARY key or not..

Ex:
Table 1
DiffKey    Other Val
1          X
1          Y
1          Z

Table 3
DiffKey   Key    Key2  Tbl3 Other
1         2      6     V
1         2      6     X
1         2      6     Y
1         2      6     Z

Table 2
Key    Key2   Other Val
2      6      a
2      6      b
2      6      c
2      6      d
2      6      e

So, Table 1 joining to Table 3 will result (in this scenario) with 12 records (each in 1 joined with each in 3). Then, all that again times each matched record in table 2 (5 records)... total of 60 ( 3 tbl1 * 4 tbl3 * 5 tbl2 )count would be returned.

So, now, take that and expand based on your 1000's of records and you see how a messed-up structure could choke a cow (so-to-speak) and kill performance.

SELECT
      COUNT(*)
   FROM
      Table1
         INNER JOIN Table3
            ON Table1.DifferentKey = Table3.DifferentKey
            INNER JOIN Table2
               ON Table3.Key =Table2.Key
               AND Table3.Key2 = Table2.Key2

Regex lookahead, lookbehind and atomic groups

Examples

Given the string foobarbarfoo:

bar(?=bar) finds the 1st bar ("bar" which has "bar" after it)
bar(?!bar) finds the 2nd bar ("bar" which does not have "bar" after it)
(?<=foo)bar finds the 1st bar ("bar" which has "foo" before it)
(?<!foo)bar finds the 2nd bar ("bar" which does not have "foo" before it)

You can also combine them:

(?<=foo)bar(?=bar) finds the 1st bar ("bar" with "foo" before it and "bar" after it)

Definitions

Look ahead positive (?=)

Find expression A where expression B follows:

A(?=B)

Look ahead negative (?!)

Find expression A where expression B does not follow:

A(?!B)

Look behind positive (?<=)

Find expression A where expression B precedes:

(?<=B)A

Look behind negative (?<!)

Find expression A where expression B does not precede:

(?<!B)A

Atomic groups (?>)

An atomic group exits a group and throws away alternative patterns after the first matched pattern inside the group (backtracking is disabled).

  • (?>foo|foot)s applied to foots will match its 1st alternative foo, then fail as s does not immediately follow, and stop as backtracking is disabled

A non-atomic group will allow backtracking; if subsequent matching ahead fails, it will backtrack and use alternative patterns until a match for the entire expression is found or all possibilities are exhausted.

  • (foo|foot)s applied to foots will:

    1. match its 1st alternative foo, then fail as s does not immediately follow in foots, and backtrack to its 2nd alternative;
    2. match its 2nd alternative foot, then succeed as s immediately follows in foots, and stop.

Sending "User-agent" using Requests library in Python

The user-agent should be specified as a field in the header.

Here is a list of HTTP header fields, and you'd probably be interested in request-specific fields, which includes User-Agent.

If you're using requests v2.13 and newer

The simplest way to do what you want is to create a dictionary and specify your headers directly, like so:

import requests

url = 'SOME URL'

headers = {
    'User-Agent': 'My User Agent 1.0',
    'From': '[email protected]' # This is another valid field
}

response = requests.get(url, headers=headers)

If you're using requests v2.12.x and older

Older versions of requests clobbered default headers, so you'd want to do the following to preserve default headers and then add your own to them.

import requests

url = 'SOME URL'

# Get a copy of the default headers that requests would use
headers = requests.utils.default_headers()

# Update the headers with your custom ones
# You don't have to worry about case-sensitivity with
# the dictionary keys, because default_headers uses a custom
# CaseInsensitiveDict implementation within requests' source code.
headers.update(
    {
        'User-Agent': 'My User Agent 1.0',
    }
)

response = requests.get(url, headers=headers)

What is the official name for a credit card's 3 digit code?

It is called the Card Security Code (CSC) according to Wikipedia, but has also been known as other things, such as the Card Verification Value (CVV) or Card Verfication Code (CVC).

The second code, and the most cited, is CVV2 or CVC2. This CSC (also known as a CCID or Credit Card ID) is often asked for by merchants for them to secure "card not present" transactions occurring over the Internet, by mail, fax or over the phone. In many countries in Western Europe, due to increased attempts at card fraud, it is now mandatory to provide this code when the cardholder is not present in person.

Because this seems to be known by multiple names, and its name doesn't seem to be printed on the card itself, you'll probably (unfortunately) still need to tell your users how to find the code - ie by describing it as the "3 digit code on back of card".

2018 update

The situation has not improved, and is now worse - there are even more different names now. However, you can if you like use different terms depending on the card type:

  • "CVC2" or "Card Validation Code" – MasterCard
  • "CVV2" or "Card Verification Value 2" – Visa
  • "CSC" or "Card Security Code" – American Express

Note that some American Express and Discover cards use a 4-digit code on the front of the card. See the above linked Wikipedia article for more.

How can I pad an int with leading zeros when using cout << operator?

I would use the following function. I don't like sprintf; it doesn't do what I want!!

#define hexchar(x)    ((((x)&0x0F)>9)?((x)+'A'-10):((x)+'0'))
typedef signed long long   Int64;

// Special printf for numbers only
// See formatting information below.
//
// Print the number "n" in the given "base"
//    using exactly "numDigits".
// Print +/- if signed flag "isSigned" is TRUE.
// Use the character specified in "padchar" to pad extra characters.
//
//    Examples:
//    sprintfNum(pszBuffer, 6, 10, 6,  TRUE, ' ',   1234);  -->  " +1234"
//    sprintfNum(pszBuffer, 6, 10, 6, FALSE, '0',   1234);  -->  "001234"
//    sprintfNum(pszBuffer, 6, 16, 6, FALSE, '.', 0x5AA5);  -->  "..5AA5"
void sprintfNum(char *pszBuffer, int size, char base, char numDigits, char isSigned, char padchar, Int64 n)
{
    char *ptr = pszBuffer;

    if (!pszBuffer)

        x = n;
    }

    // Set up small string buffer
    count = (numDigits-1) - (isSigned?1:0);
    p = buf + sizeof (buf);
    *--p = '\0';

    // Force calculation of first digit
    // (to prevent zero from not printing at all!!!)
    *--p = (char)hexchar(x%base);
    x = x / base;

    // Calculate remaining digits

            // No more digits left, pad out to desired length
            *--p = padchar;
        }
    }

    // Apply signed notation if requested
    if (isSigned)
    {

        {

        }
    }

    // Print the string right-justified
    count = numDigits;
    while (count--)
    {
        *ptr++ = *p++;
    }
    return;

Sanitizing user input before adding it to the DOM in Javascript

You need to take extra precautions when using user supplied data in HTML attributes. Because attributes has many more attack vectors than output inside HTML tags.

The only way to avoid XSS attacks is to encode everything except alphanumeric characters. Escape all characters with ASCII values less than 256 with the &#xHH; format. Which unfortunately may cause problems in your scenario, if you are using CSS classes and javascript to fetch those elements.

OWASP has a good description of how to mitigate HTML attribute XSS:

http://www.owasp.org/index.php/XSS_(Cross_Site_Scripting)_Prevention_Cheat_Sheet#RULE_.233_-_JavaScript_Escape_Before_Inserting_Untrusted_Data_into_HTML_JavaScript_Data_Values

Python Pandas Counting the Occurrences of a Specific value

An elegant way to count the occurrence of '?' or any symbol in any column, is to use built-in function isin of a dataframe object.

Suppose that we have loaded the 'Automobile' dataset into df object. We do not know which columns contain missing value ('?' symbol), so let do:

df.isin(['?']).sum(axis=0)

DataFrame.isin(values) official document says:

it returns boolean DataFrame showing whether each element in the DataFrame is contained in values

Note that isin accepts an iterable as input, thus we need to pass a list containing the target symbol to this function. df.isin(['?']) will return a boolean dataframe as follows.

    symboling   normalized-losses   make    fuel-type   aspiration-ratio ...
0 False True False False False
1 False True False False False
2 False True False False False
3 False False False False False
4 False False False False False
5 False True False False False
...

To count the number of occurrence of the target symbol in each column, let's take sum over all the rows of the above dataframe by indicating axis=0. The final (truncated) result shows what we expect:

symboling             0
normalized-losses    41
...
bore                  4
stroke                4
compression-ratio     0
horsepower            2
peak-rpm              2
city-mpg              0
highway-mpg           0
price                 4

What is a bus error?

I believe the kernel raises SIGBUS when an application exhibits data misalignment on the data bus. I think that since most[?] modern compilers for most processors pad / align the data for the programmers, the alignment troubles of yore (at least) mitigated, and hence one does not see SIGBUS too often these days (AFAIK).

Match linebreaks - \n or \r\n?

Gonna answer in opposite direction.

2) For a full explanation about \r and \n I have to refer to this question, which is far more complete than I will post here: Difference between \n and \r?

Long story short, Linux uses \n for a new-line, Windows \r\n and old Macs \r. So there are multiple ways to write a newline. Your second tool (RegExr) does for example match on the single \r.

1) [\r\n]+ as Ilya suggested will work, but will also match multiple consecutive new-lines. (\r\n|\r|\n) is more correct.

Why can't I inherit static classes?

Citation from here:

This is actually by design. There seems to be no good reason to inherit a static class. It has public static members that you can always access via the class name itself. The only reasons I have seen for inheriting static stuff have been bad ones, such as saving a couple of characters of typing.

There may be reason to consider mechanisms to bring static members directly into scope (and we will in fact consider this after the Orcas product cycle), but static class inheritance is not the way to go: It is the wrong mechanism to use, and works only for static members that happen to reside in a static class.

(Mads Torgersen, C# Language PM)

Other opinions from channel9

Inheritance in .NET works only on instance base. Static methods are defined on the type level not on the instance level. That is why overriding doesn't work with static methods/properties/events...

Static methods are only held once in memory. There is no virtual table etc. that is created for them.

If you invoke an instance method in .NET, you always give it the current instance. This is hidden by the .NET runtime, but it happens. Each instance method has as first argument a pointer (reference) to the object that the method is run on. This doesn't happen with static methods (as they are defined on type level). How should the compiler decide to select the method to invoke?

And as a valuable idea, littleguru has a partial "workaround" for this issue: the Singleton pattern.

Nexus 5 USB driver

Currently experienced this problem with my Nexus 5, when attempting to sideload latest 4.4.1 OTA update via stock recovery.

Solution:

  1. Open Android SDK Manager (in console get to sdk directory then run tools\android)
  2. Download/install latest USB drivers (under Extras).
  3. In Windows Device Manager (devmgmt.msc), right click the Nexus 5 device and select Update Driver Software.
  4. Browse My Computer for driver software > Android SDK Dir > Extras > usb_driver

How to create module-wide variables in Python?

Steveha's answer was helpful to me, but omits an important point (one that I think wisty was getting at). The global keyword is not necessary if you only access but do not assign the variable in the function.

If you assign the variable without the global keyword then Python creates a new local var -- the module variable's value will now be hidden inside the function. Use the global keyword to assign the module var inside a function.

Pylint 1.3.1 under Python 2.7 enforces NOT using global if you don't assign the var.

module_var = '/dev/hello'

def readonly_access():
    connect(module_var)

def readwrite_access():
    global module_var
    module_var = '/dev/hello2'
    connect(module_var)

Automatically enter SSH password with script

sshpass with better security

I stumbled on this thread while looking for a way to ssh into a bogged-down server -- it took over a minute to process the SSH connection attempt, and timed out before I could enter a password. In this case, I wanted to be able to supply my password immediately when the prompt was available.

(And if it's not painfully clear: with a server in this state, it's far too late to set up a public key login.)

sshpass to the rescue. However, there are better ways to go about this than sshpass -p.

My implementation skips directly to the interactive password prompt (no time wasted seeing if public key exchange can happen), and never reveals the password as plain text.

#!/bin/sh
# preempt-ssh.sh
# usage: same arguments that you'd pass to ssh normally
echo "You're going to run (with our additions) ssh $@"

# Read password interactively and save it to the environment
read -s -p "Password to use: " SSHPASS
export SSHPASS

# have sshpass load the password from the environment, and skip public key auth
# all other args come directly from the input
sshpass -e ssh -o PreferredAuthentications=keyboard-interactive -o PubkeyAuthentication=no "$@"

# clear the exported variable containing the password
unset SSHPASS

Windows batch: sleep

Heh, Windows is uhm... interesting. This works:

choice /T 1 /d y > NUL

choice presents a prompt asking you yes or no. /d y makes it choose yes. /t 1 makes it wait a second before typing it. > NUL squashes output.

Dynamic loading of images in WPF

It is because the Creation was delayed. If you want the picture to be loaded immediately, you can simply add this code into the init phase.

src.CacheOption = BitmapCacheOption.OnLoad;

like this:

src.BeginInit();
src.UriSource = new Uri("picture.jpg", UriKind.Relative);
src.CacheOption = BitmapCacheOption.OnLoad;
src.EndInit();

Python class inherits object

Python 3

  • class MyClass(object): = New-style class
  • class MyClass: = New-style class (implicitly inherits from object)

Python 2

  • class MyClass(object): = New-style class
  • class MyClass: = OLD-STYLE CLASS

Explanation:

When defining base classes in Python 3.x, you’re allowed to drop the object from the definition. However, this can open the door for a seriously hard to track problem…

Python introduced new-style classes back in Python 2.2, and by now old-style classes are really quite old. Discussion of old-style classes is buried in the 2.x docs, and non-existent in the 3.x docs.

The problem is, the syntax for old-style classes in Python 2.x is the same as the alternative syntax for new-style classes in Python 3.x. Python 2.x is still very widely used (e.g. GAE, Web2Py), and any code (or coder) unwittingly bringing 3.x-style class definitions into 2.x code is going to end up with some seriously outdated base objects. And because old-style classes aren’t on anyone’s radar, they likely won’t know what hit them.

So just spell it out the long way and save some 2.x developer the tears.

Determine whether an array contains a value

function setFound(){
 var l = arr.length, textBox1 = document.getElementById("text1");
    for(var i=0; i<l;i++)
    {
     if(arr[i]==searchele){
      textBox1 .value = "Found";
      return;
     }
    }
    textBox1 .value = "Not Found";
return;
}

This program checks whether the given element is found or not. Id text1 represents id of textbox and searchele represents element to be searched (got fron user); if you want index, use i value

jquery (or pure js) simulate enter key pressed for testing

For those who want to do this in pure javascript, look at:

Using standard KeyboardEvent

As Joe comment it, KeyboardEvent is now the standard.

Same example to fire an enter (keyCode 13):

const ke = new KeyboardEvent('keydown', {
    bubbles: true, cancelable: true, keyCode: 13
});
document.body.dispatchEvent(ke);

You can use this page help you to find the right keyboard event.

Outdated answer:

You can do something like (here for Firefox)

var ev = document.createEvent('KeyboardEvent');
// Send key '13' (= enter)
ev.initKeyEvent(
    'keydown', true, true, window, false, false, false, false, 13, 0);
document.body.dispatchEvent(ev);

A good Sorted List for Java

import java.util.ArrayList;
import java.util.Collections;
import java.util.List;
import java.util.Random;

public class test
{
    public static void main(String[] args)
    {
        List<Integer> nums = new ArrayList<Integer>();
        Random rand = new Random();
        for( int i = 0; i < 40000; i++ )
        {
            nums.add( rand.nextInt(Integer.MAX_VALUE) );
        }

        long start = System.nanoTime();
        Collections.sort(nums);
        long end = System.nanoTime();

        System.out.println((end-start)/1e9);
    }
}

Since you rarely need sorting, as per your problem statement, this is probably more efficient than it needs to be.

AngularJS: How to make angular load script inside ng-include?

ocLazyLoad allows to lazily load scripts in the templates/views via routers (e.g. ui-router). Here is a sniplet

$stateProvider.state('parent', {

             return $ocLazyLoad.load('js/ServiceTest.js');
        }]
    }
})
.state('parent.child', {
    resolve: {
        test: ['loadMyService', '$ServiceTest', function(loadMyService, $ServiceTest) {
            // you can use your service
            $ServiceTest.doSomething();
        }]

How to skip the first n rows in sql query

In Faircom SQL (which is a pseudo MySQL), i can do this in a super simple SQL Statement, just as follows:

SELECT SKIP 10 * FROM TABLE ORDER BY Id

Obviously you can just replace 10 with any declared variable of your desire.

I don't have access to MS SQL or other platforms, but I'll be really surprised MS SQL doesn't support something like this.

Unnamed/anonymous namespaces vs. static functions

I recently began replacing static keywords with anonymous namespaces in my code but immediately ran into a problem where the variables in the namespace were no longer available for inspection in my debugger. I was using VC60, so I don't know if that is a non-issue with other debuggers. My workaround was to define a 'module' namespace, where I gave it the name of my cpp file.

For example, in my XmlUtil.cpp file, I define a namespace XmlUtil_I { ... } for all of my module variables and functions. That way I can apply the XmlUtil_I:: qualification in the debugger to access the variables. In this case, the _I distinguishes it from a public namespace such as XmlUtil that I may want to use elsewhere.

I suppose a potential disadvantage of this approach compared to a truly anonymous one is that someone could violate the desired static scope by using the namespace qualifier in other modules. I don't know if that is a major concern though.

What is __declspec and when do I need to use it?

The canonical examples are __declspec(dllimport) and __declspec(dllexport), which instruct the linker to import and export (respectively) a symbol from or to a DLL.

// header
__declspec(dllimport) void foo();

// code - this calls foo() somewhere in a DLL
foo();

(__declspec(..) just wraps up Microsoft's specific stuff - to achieve compatibility, one would usually wrap it away with macros)

How do I set combobox read-only or user cannot write in a combo box only can select the given items?

Just change the DropDownStyle to DropDownList. Or if you want it completely read only you can set Enabled = false, or if you don't like the look of that I sometimes have two controls, one readonly textbox and one combobox and then hide the combo and show the textbox if it should be completely readonly and vice versa.

How to run a program automatically as admin on Windows 7 at startup?

This is not possible.
However, you can create a service that runs under an administrative user.

The service can run automatically at startup and communicate with your existing application.
When the application needs to do something as an administrator, it can ask the service to do it for it.

Remember that multiple users can be logged on at once.

Best way to store password in database

The best security practice is not to store the password at all (not even encrypted), but to store the salted hash (with a unique salt per password) of the encrypted password.

That way it is (practically) impossible to retrieve a plaintext password.

How do I count the number of rows and columns in a file using bash?

Alternatively to count columns, count the separators between columns. I find this to be a good balance of brevity and ease to remember. Of course, this won't work if your data include the column separator.

head -n1 myfile.txt | grep -o " " | wc -l

Uses head -n1 to grab the first line of the file. Uses grep -o to to count all the spaces, and output each space found on a new line. Uses wc -l to count the number of lines.

What is the difference between a cer, pvk, and pfx file?

Windows uses .cer extension for an X.509 certificate. These can be in "binary" (ASN.1 DER), or it can be encoded with Base-64 and have a header and footer applied (PEM); Windows will recognize either. To verify the integrity of a certificate, you have to check its signature using the issuer's public key... which is, in turn, another certificate.

Windows uses .pfx for a PKCS #12 file. This file can contain a variety of cryptographic information, including certificates, certificate chains, root authority certificates, and private keys. Its contents can be cryptographically protected (with passwords) to keep private keys private and preserve the integrity of root certificates.

Windows uses .pvk for a private key file. I'm not sure what standard (if any) Windows follows for these. Hopefully they are PKCS #8 encoded keys. Emmanuel Bourg reports that these are a proprietary format. Some documentation is available.

You should never disclose your private key. These are contained in .pfx and .pvk files.

Generally, you only exchange your certificate (.cer) and the certificates of any intermediate issuers (i.e., the certificates of all of your CAs, except the root CA) with other parties.

Keep getting No 'Access-Control-Allow-Origin' error with XMLHttpRequest

Your server's response allows the request to include three specific non-simple headers:

Access-Control-Allow-Headers:origin, x-requested-with, content-type

but your request has a header not allowed by the server's response:

Access-Control-Request-Headers:access-control-allow-origin, content-type

All non-simple headers sent in a CORS request must be explicitly allowed by the Access-Control-Allow-Headers response header. The unnecessary Access-Control-Allow-Origin header sent in your request is not allowed by the server's CORS response. This is exactly what the "...not allowed by Access-Control-Allow-Headers" error message was trying to tell you.

There is no reason for the request to have this header: it does nothing, because Access-Control-Allow-Origin is a response header, not a request header.

Solution: Remove the setRequestHeader call that adds a Access-Control-Allow-Origin header to your request.

difference between $query>num_rows() and $this->db->count_all_results() in CodeIgniter & which one is recommended

Which one is better and what is the difference between these two Its almost imposibble to me, someone just want to get the number of records without re-touching or perform another query which involved same resource. Furthermore, the memory used by these two function is in same way after all, since with count_all_result you still performing get (in CI AR terms), so i recomend you using the other one (or use count() instead) which gave you reusability benefits.

Conda activate not working?

This solution is for those users who do not want to set PATH.

Sometimes setting PATH may not be desired. In my case, I had Anaconda installed and another software with a Python installation required for accessing the API, and setting PATH was creating conflicts which were difficult to resolve.

Under the Anaconda directory (in this case Anaconda3) there is a subdirectory called envs where all the environments are stored. When using conda activate some-environment replace some-environment with the actual directory location of the environment.

In my case the command is as follows.

conda activate C:\ProgramData\Anaconda3\envs\some-environment

How do you share code between projects/solutions in Visual Studio?

If you're attempting to share code between two different project types (I.e.: desktop project and a mobile project), you may look into the shared solutions folder. I have to do that for my current project as the mobile and desktop projects both require identical classes that are only in 1 file. If you go this route, any of the projects that have the file linked can make changes to it and all of the projects will be rebuilt against those changes.

Android SDK Manager gives "Failed to fetch URL https://dl-ssl.google.com/android/repository/repository.xml" error when selecting repository

All that was necessary for me, a Ubuntu user, was to change the owner of the ~/.android directory. In a terminal type the following command:

sudo chown -R username:username ~/.android

Obviously, you must replace "username" (twice) with your username.

I wasn't sure if I should post this as an answer because the original poster's question was concerning Windows Vista, not Ubuntu. However I found this post whilst searching for the answer on Ubuntu so I believe it is pertinent. I don't have sufficient reputation to comment on +Maher Gamal's answer, though, which is what lead me to this answer. Hopefully someone else finds it useful!

Launch an app from within another (iPhone)

I found that it's easy to write an app that can open another app.

Let's assume that we have two apps called FirstApp and SecondApp. When we open the FirstApp, we want to be able to open the SecondApp by clicking a button. The solution to do this is:

  1. In SecondApp

    Go to the plist file of SecondApp and you need to add a URL Schemes with a string iOSDevTips(of course you can write another string.it's up to you).

enter image description here

2 . In FirstApp

Create a button with the below action:

- (void)buttonPressed:(UIButton *)button
{
  NSString *customURL = @"iOSDevTips://";

  if ([[UIApplication sharedApplication] canOpenURL:[NSURL URLWithString:customURL]])
  {
    [[UIApplication sharedApplication] openURL:[NSURL URLWithString:customURL]];
  }
  else
  {
    UIAlertView *alert = [[UIAlertView alloc] initWithTitle:@"URL error"
                              message:[NSString stringWithFormat:@"No custom URL defined for %@", customURL]
                              delegate:self cancelButtonTitle:@"Ok"
                              otherButtonTitles:nil];
    [alert show];
  }

}

That's it. Now when you can click the button in the FirstApp it should open the SecondApp.

Check if Cell value exists in Column, and then get the value of the NEXT Cell

After t.thielemans' answer, I worked that just

=VLOOKUP(A1, B:C, 2, FALSE)

works fine and does what I wanted, except that it returns #N/A for non-matches; so it is suitable for the case where it is known that the value definitely exists in the look-up column.

Edit (based on t.thielemans' comment):

To avoid #N/A for non-matches, do:

=IFERROR(VLOOKUP(A1, B:C, 2, FALSE), "No Match")

Change Color of Fonts in DIV (CSS)

Your first CSS selector—social.h2—is looking for the "social" element in the "h2", class, e.g.:

<social class="h2">

Class selectors are proceeded with a dot (.). Also, use a space () to indicate that one element is inside of another. To find an <h2> descendant of an element in the social class, try something like:

.social h2 {
  color: pink;
  font-size: 14px;
}

To get a better understanding of CSS selectors and how they are used to reference your HTML, I suggest going through the interactive HTML and CSS tutorials from CodeAcademy. I hope that this helps point you in the right direction.

Python Sets vs Lists

Lists are slightly faster than sets when you just want to iterate over the values.

Sets, however, are significantly faster than lists if you want to check if an item is contained within it. They can only contain unique items though.

It turns out tuples perform in almost exactly the same way as lists, except for their immutability.

dbms_lob.getlength() vs. length() to find blob size in oracle

length and dbms_lob.getlength return the number of characters when applied to a CLOB (Character LOB). When applied to a BLOB (Binary LOB), dbms_lob.getlength will return the number of bytes, which may differ from the number of characters in a multi-byte character set.

As the documentation doesn't specify what happens when you apply length on a BLOB, I would advise against using it in that case. If you want the number of bytes in a BLOB, use dbms_lob.getlength.

Now click on your element (with id "myElement") and it should print the following in the console:

caught event: click
ABC

This allows you to have an object method as event handler, and have access to all the object properties in that method.

You can't just pass a method of an object to addEventListener directly (like that: element.addEventListener('click',myObj.myMethod);) and expect myMethod to act as if I was normally called on the object. I am guessing that any function passed to addEventListener is somehow copied instead of being referenced. For example, if you pass an event listener function reference to addEventListener (in the form of a variable) then unset this reference, the event listener is still executed when events are caught.

Another (less elegant) workaround to pass a method as event listener and stil this and still have access to object properties within the event listener would be something like that:

// see above for definition of MyObj

var myObj = new MyObj();

document.querySelector("#myElement").addEventListener('click', myObj.handleEvent.bind(myObj));

What is Robocopy's "restartable" option?

Restartable mode (/Z) has to do with a partially-copied file. With this option, should the copy be interrupted while any particular file is partially copied, the next execution of robocopy can pick up where it left off rather than re-copying the entire file.

That option could be useful when copying very large files over a potentially unstable connection.

Backup mode (/B) has to do with how robocopy reads files from the source system. It allows the copying of files on which you might otherwise get an access denied error on either the file itself or while trying to copy the file's attributes/permissions. You do need to be running in an Administrator context or otherwise have backup rights to use this flag.

How to compile c# in Microsoft's new Visual Studio Code?

Since no one else said it, the short-cut to compile (build) a C# app in Visual Studio Code (VSCode) is SHIFT+CTRL+B.

If you want to see the build errors (because they don't pop-up by default), the shortcut is SHIFT+CTRL+M.

(I know this question was asking for more than just the build shortcut. But I wanted to answer the question in the title, which wasn't directly answered by other answers/comments.)

How do I mock an open used in a with statement (using the Mock framework in Python)?

Python 3

Patch builtins.open and use mock_open, which is part of the mock framework. patch used as a context manager returns the object used to replace the patched one:

from unittest.mock import patch, mock_open
with patch("builtins.open", mock_open(read_data="data")) as mock_file:
    assert open("path/to/open").read() == "data"
    mock_file.assert_called_with("path/to/open")

If you want to use patch as a decorator, using mock_open()'s result as the new= argument to patch can be a little bit weird. Instead, use patch's new_callable= argument and remember that every extra argument that patch doesn't use will be passed to the new_callable function, as described in the patch documentation:

patch() takes arbitrary keyword arguments. These will be passed to the Mock (or new_callable) on construction.

@patch("builtins.open", new_callable=mock_open, read_data="data")
def test_patch(mock_file):
    assert open("path/to/open").read() == "data"
    mock_file.assert_called_with("path/to/open")

Remember that in this case patch will pass the mocked object as an argument to your test function.

Python 2

You need to patch __builtin__.open instead of builtins.open and mock is not part of unittest, you need to pip install and import it separately:

from mock import patch, mock_open
with patch("__builtin__.open", mock_open(read_data="data")) as mock_file:
    assert open("path/to/open").read() == "data"
    mock_file.assert_called_with("path/to/open")

How to modify list entries during for loop?

You can do something like this:

a = [1,2,3,4,5]
b = [i**2 for i in a]

It's called a list comprehension, to make it easier for you to loop inside a list.

String literals and escape characters in postgresql

Partially. The text is inserted, but the warning is still generated.

I found a discussion that indicated the text needed to be preceded with 'E', as such:

insert into EscapeTest (text) values (E'This is the first part \n And this is the second');

This suppressed the warning, but the text was still not being returned correctly. When I added the additional slash as Michael suggested, it worked.

As such:

insert into EscapeTest (text) values (E'This is the first part \\n And this is the second');

Dump all documents of Elasticsearch

To export all documents from ElasticSearch into JSON, you can use the esbackupexporter tool. It works with index snapshots. It takes the container with snapshots (S3, Azure blob or file directory) as the input and outputs one or several zipped JSON files per index per day. It is quite handy when exporting your historical snapshots. To export your hot index data, you may need to make the snapshot first (see the answers above).

How do I resolve git saying "Commit your changes or stash them before you can merge"?

Before using reset think about using revert so you can always go back.

git reset vs git revert   sonic0002        2019-02-02 08:26:39

When maintaining code using version control systems such as git, it is unavoidable that we need to rollback some wrong commits either due to bugs or temp code revert. In this case, rookie developers would be very nervous because they may get lost on what they should do to rollback their changes without affecting others, but to veteran developers, this is their routine work and they can show you different ways of doing that. In this post, we will introduce two major ones used frequently by developers.

  • git reset
  • git revert

What are their differences and corresponding use cases? We will discuss them in detail below. git reset Assuming we have below few commits. enter image description here

Commit A and B are working commits, but commit C and D are bad commits. Now we want to rollback to commit B and drop commit C and D. Currently HEAD is pointing to commit D 5lk4er, we just need to point HEAD to commit B a0fvf8 to achieve what we want.  It's easy to use git reset command.

git reset --hard a0fvf8

After executing above command, the HEAD will point to commit B. enter image description here

But now the remote origin still has HEAD point to commit D, if we directly use git push to push the changes, it will not update the remote repo, we need to add a -f option to force pushing the changes.

git push -f

The drawback of this method is that all the commits after HEAD will be gone once the reset is done. In case one day we found that some of the commits ate good ones and want to keep them, it is too late. Because of this, many companies forbid to use this method to rollback changes.

git revert The use of git revert is to create a new commit which reverts a previous commit. The HEAD will point to the new reverting commit.  For the example of git reset above, what we need to do is just reverting commit D and then reverting commit C.

git revert 5lk4er
git revert 76sdeb

Now it creates two new commit D' and C',  enter image description here

In above example, we have only two commits to revert, so we can revert one by one. But what if there are lots of commits to revert? We can revert a range indeed.

git revert OLDER_COMMIT^..NEWER_COMMIT

This method would not have the disadvantage of git reset, it would point HEAD to newly created reverting commit and it is ok to directly push the changes to remote without using the -f option. Now let's take a look at a more difficult example. Assuming we have three commits but the bad commit is the second commit.  enter image description here

It's not a good idea to use git reset to rollback the commit B since we need to keep commit C as it is a good commit. Now we can revert commit C and B and then use cherry-pick to commit C again.  enter image description here

From above explanation, we can find out that the biggest difference between git reset and git revert is that git reset will reset the state of the branch to a previous state by dropping all the changes post the desired commit while git revert will reset to a previous state by creating new reverting commits and keep the original commits. It's recommended to use git revert instead of git reset in enterprise environment.  Reference: https://kknews.cc/news/4najez2.html

Is it possible to select the last n items with nth-child?

nth-last-child sounds like it was specifically designed to solve this problem, so I doubt whether there is a more compatible alternative. Support looks pretty decent, though.

Resource from src/main/resources not found after building with maven

I think assembly plugin puts the file on class path. The location will be different in in the JAR than you see on disk. Unpack the resulting JAR and look where the file is located there.

Where is jarsigner?

For me the solution was in setting the global variable path to the JDK. See here: https://appopus.wordpress.com/2012/07/11/how-to-install-jdk-java-development-kit-and-jarsigner-on-windows/

SUM OVER PARTITION BY

In my opinion, I think it's important to explain the why behind the need for a GROUP BY in your SQL when summing with OVER() clause and why you are getting repeated lines of data when you are expecting one row per BrandID.

Take this example: You need to aggregate the total sale price of each order line, per specific order category, between two dates, but you also need to retain individual order data in your final results. A SUM() on the SalesPrice column would not allow you to get the correct totals because it would require a GROUP BY, therefore squashing the details because you wouldn't be able to keep the individual order lines in the select statement.

Many times we see a #temp table, @table variable, or CTE filled with the sum of our data and grouped up so we can join to it again later to get a column of the sums we need. This can add processing time and extra lines of code. Instead, use OVER(PARTITION BY ()) like this:

SELECT
  OrderLine,
  OrderDateTime,
  SalePrice,
  OrderCategory,
  SUM(SalePrice) OVER(PARTITION BY OrderCategory) AS SaleTotalPerCategory
FROM tblSales
WHERE OrderDateTime BETWEEN @StartDate AND @EndDate

Notice we are not grouping and we have individual order lines column selected. The PARTITION BY in the last column will return us a sales price total for each row of data in each category. What the last column essentially says is, we want the sum of the sale price (SUM(SalePrice)) over a partition of my results and by a specified category (OVER(PARTITION BY CategoryHere)).

If we remove the other columns from our select statement, and leave our final SUM() column, like this:

SELECT
  SUM(SalePrice) OVER(PARTITION BY OrderCategory) AS SaleTotalPerCategory
FROM tblSales
WHERE OrderDateTime BETWEEN @StartDate AND @EndDate

The results will still repeat this sum for each row in our original result set. The reason is this method does not require a GROUP BY. If you don't need to retain individual line data, then simply SUM() without the use of OVER() and group up your data appropriately. Again, if you need an additional column with specific totals, you can use the OVER(PARTITION BY ()) method described above without additional selects to join back to.

The above is purely for explaining WHY he is getting repeated lines of the same number and to help understand what this clause provides. This method can be used in many ways and I highly encourage further reading from the documentation here:

Over Clause

Concatenating date with a string in Excel

You can do it this simple way :

A1 = Mahi
A2 = NULL(blank)

Select A2 Right click on cell --> Format cells --> change to TEXT

Then put the date in A2 (A2 =31/07/1990)

Then concatenate it will work. No need of any formulae.

=CONCATENATE(A1,A2)

mahi31/07/1990

(This works on the empty cells ie.,Before entering the DATE value to cell you need to make it as TEXT).

How to create JSON string in JavaScript?

Javascript doesn't handle Strings over multiple lines.

You will need to concatenate those:

var obj = '{'
       +'"name" : "Raj",'
       +'"age"  : 32,'
       +'"married" : false'
       +'}';

You can also use template literals in ES6 and above: (See here for the documentation)

var obj = `{
           "name" : "Raj",
           "age" : 32,
           "married" : false,
           }`;

To fix this problem, you must edit your php.ini (or extensions.ini) file and comment-out the extensions that are already compiled-in. For example, after editing, your ini file may look like the lines below:

;extension=spl.so

draw diagonal lines in div background with CSS

intrepidis' answer on this page using a background SVG in CSS has the advantage of scaling nicely to any size or aspect ratio, though the SVG uses <path>s with a fill that doesn't scale so well.

I've just updated the SVG code to use <line> instead of <path> and added non-scaling-stroke vector-effect to prevent the strokes scaling with the container:

<svg xmlns='http://www.w3.org/2000/svg' version='1.1' preserveAspectRatio='none' viewBox='0 0 100 100'>
  <line x1='0' y1='0' x2='100' y2='100' stroke='black' vector-effect='non-scaling-stroke'/>
  <line x1='0' y1='100' x2='100' y2='0' stroke='black' vector-effect='non-scaling-stroke'/>
</svg>

Here's that dropped into the CSS from the original answer (with HTML made resizable):

Microsoft.ReportViewer.Common Version=12.0.0.0

I worked on this issue for a few days. Installed all packages, modified web.config and still had the same problem. I finally removed

<assemblies>
<add assembly="Microsoft.ReportViewer.Common, Version=12.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=89845dcd8080cc91" />
</assemblies>

from the web.config and it worked. No exactly sure why it didn't work with the tags in the web.config file. My guess there is a conflict with the GAC and the BIN folder.

Here is my web.config file:

Renaming Column Names in Pandas Groupby function

For the first question I think answer would be:

<your DataFrame>.rename(columns={'count':'Total_Numbers'})

or

<your DataFrame>.columns = ['ID', 'Region', 'Total_Numbers']

As for second one I'd say the answer would be no. It's possible to use it like 'df.ID' because of python datamodel:

Attribute references are translated to lookups in this dictionary, e.g., m.x is equivalent to m.dict["x"]

How can I tell jaxb / Maven to generate multiple schema packages?

you should change that to define the plugin only once and do twice execution areas...like the following...and the generateDirectory should be set (based on the docs)..

<plugin>

  <artifactId>maven-jaxb2-plugin</artifactId>
  <version>0.7.1</version>
  <executions>
    <execution>

      <goals>
        <goal>generate</goal>
      </goals>
      <configuration>
        <generateDirectory>target/gen1</generateDirectory>
        <schemaDirectory>src/main/resources/dir1</schemaDirectory>
        <schemaIncludes>
          <include>schema1.xsd</include>
        </schemaIncludes>
        <generatePackage>schema1.package</generatePackage>
      </configuration>
    </execution>
    <execution>
      <id>secondrun</id>
      <goals>
        <goal>generate</goal>
      </goals>
      <configuration>
        <generateDirectory>target/gen2</generateDirectory>
        <schemaDirectory>src/main/resources/dir2</schemaDirectory>
        <schemaIncludes>
          <include>schema2.xsd</include>
        </schemaIncludes>
        <generatePackage>schema2.package</generatePackage>
      </configuration>
    </execution>
  </executions>
</plugin>

It seemed to me that you are fighting against single artifact rule of maven...may be you should think about this.

Brew install docker does not include docker engine?

Please try running

This will install the Docker engine, which will require Docker-Machine (+ VirtualBox) to run on the Mac.

If you want to install the newer Docker for Mac, which does not require virtualbox, you can install that through Homebrew's Cask:

brew install --cask docker

How to link an input button to a file select window?

You could use JavaScript and trigger the hidden file input when the button input has been clicked.

http://jsfiddle.net/gregorypratt/dhyzV/ - simple

http://jsfiddle.net/gregorypratt/dhyzV/1/ - fancier with a little JQuery

Or, you could style a div directly over the file input and set pointer-events in CSS to none to allow the click events to pass through to the file input that is "behind" the fancy div. This only works in certain browsers though; http://caniuse.com/pointer-events

MySQL Alter Table Add Field Before or After a field already present

          ADD COLUMN `ping_status` INT(1) NOT NULL
          AFTER `<TABLE COLUMN BEFORE THIS COLUMN>`";

I believe you need to have ADD COLUMN and use AFTER, not BEFORE.

In case you want to place column at the beginning of a table, use the FIRST statement:

$query = "ALTER TABLE `" . $table_prefix . "posts_to_bookmark`
          ADD COLUMN `ping_status` INT(1) NOT NULL
          FIRST";

How can I escape a double quote inside double quotes?

Bash allows you to place strings adjacently, and they'll just end up being glued together.

So this:

$ echo "Hello"', world!'

produces

Hello, world!

The trick is to alternate between single and double-quoted strings as required. Unfortunately, it quickly gets very messy. For example:

$ echo "I like to use" '"double quotes"' "sometimes"

I like to use "double quotes" sometimes

In your example, I would do it something like this:

$ dbtable=example
$ dbload='load data local infile "'"'gfpoint.csv'"'" into '"table $dbtable FIELDS TERMINATED BY ',' ENCLOSED BY '"'"'"' LINES "'TERMINATED BY "'"'\n'"'" IGNORE 1 LINES'
$ echo $dbload

which produces the following output:

load data local infile "'gfpoint.csv'" into table example FIELDS TERMINATED BY ',' ENCLOSED BY '"' LINES TERMINATED BY "'\n'" IGNORE 1 LINES

It's difficult to see what's going on here, but I can annotate it using Unicode quotes. The following won't work in bash – it's just for illustration:

dbload=load data local infile "’“'gfpoint.csv'”‘" into’“table $dbtable FIELDS TERMINATED BY ',' ENCLOSED BY '”‘"’“' LINES”‘TERMINATED BY "’“'\n'”‘" IGNORE 1 LINES

The quotes like “ ‘ ’ ” in the above will be interpreted by bash. The quotes like " ' will end up in the resulting variable.

If I give the same treatment to the earlier example, it looks like this:

$ echoI like to use"double quotes"sometimes

Update ViewPager dynamically?

You need change instantiateItem's mFragments element getItemPosition.

    if (mFragments.size() > position) {
        Fragment f = mFragments.get(position);

        if (f != null) {
            int newPosition = getItemPosition(f);
            if (newPosition == POSITION_UNCHANGED) {
                return f;
            } else if (newPosition == POSITION_NONE) {
                mFragments.set(position, null);
            } else {
                mFragments.set(newPosition, f);
            }
        }
    }

Based AndroidX FragmentStatePagerAdapter.java, because mFragments's elements position do not change when calling notifyDataSetChanged().

How do I make a https post in Node Js without any third party module?

For example, like this:

const querystring = require('querystring');
const https = require('https');

var postData = querystring.stringify({
    'msg' : 'Hello World!'
});

var options = {
  hostname: 'posttestserver.com',
  port: 443,
  path: '/post.php',
  method: 'POST',
  headers: {
       'Content-Type': 'application/x-www-form-urlencoded',

How to set java_home on Windows 7?

goto Mycomputer(This PC) -> rightclick ->select properties -> Advanced system settings -> environment variables-> in system variables click "New" button and write JAVA_HOME in variable name and path C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.8.0_131 were jdk is present in variable value-> click ok.

close and reopen the command prompt after setting JAVA_HOME. Sometimes changes does not reflect in the cmd opened before setting the JAVA_HOME.

you can also set JAVA_HOME through terminal itself: SET JAVA_HOME="C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jdk1.8.0_131"

How to check whether java is installed on the computer

You can do it programmatically by reading the java system properties

@Test
public void javaVersion() {
    System.out.println(System.getProperty("java.version"));
    System.out.println(System.getProperty("java.runtime.version"));
    System.out.println(System.getProperty("java.home"));
    System.out.println(System.getProperty("java.vendor"));
    System.out.println(System.getProperty("java.vendor.url"));
    System.out.println(System.getProperty("java.class.path"));
}

This will output somthing like

1.7.0_17
1.7.0_17-b02
C:\workspaces\Oracle\jdk1.7\jre
Oracle Corporation
http://java.oracle.com/
C:\workspaces\Misc\Miscellaneous\bin; ...

The first line shows the version number. You can parse it an see whether it fits your minimun required java version or not. You can find a description for the naming convention here and more infos here.

How can I convert uppercase letters to lowercase in Notepad++

You could also, higlight the text you want to change, then navigate to - 'Edit' > 'Convert Case to' choose UPPERCASE or lowercase (as required).

How can I make text appear on next line instead of overflowing?

Try the <wbr> tag - not as elegant as the word-wrap property that others suggested, but it's a working solution until all major browsers (read IE) implement CSS3.

Set default value of javascript object attributes

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned ternary operator yet.

var emptyObj = {a:'123', b:'234', c:0};
var defaultValue = 'defaultValue';
var attr = 'someNonExistAttribute';
emptyObj.hasOwnProperty(attr) ? emptyObj[attr] : defaultValue;//=> 'defaultValue'

attr = 'c'; // => 'c'
emptyObj.hasOwnProperty(attr) ? emptyObj[attr] : defaultValue; // => 0

In this way, even if the value of 'c' is 0, it will still get the correct value.

How to find the process id of a running Java process on Windows? And how to kill the process alone?

This is specific to Windows. I was facing the same issue where I have to kill one specific java program using taskkill. When I run the java program, tasklist was showing the same program with Image name set as java.exe. But killing it using taskkill /F java.exe will stop all other java applications other than intended one which is not required.

So I run the same java program using:

start "MyProgramName" java java-program..

Here start command will open a new window and run the java program with window's title set to MyProgramName.

Now to kill this java-program use the following taskkill command:

taskkill /fi "MyProgramName"

Your Java program will be killed only. Rest will be unaffected.

jQuery to loop through elements with the same class

More precise:

$.each($('.testimonal'), function(index, value) {
    console.log(index + ':' + value);
});

How to reference static assets within vue javascript

It works for me by using require syntax like this:

$('.eventSlick').slick({
    dots: true,
    slidesToShow: 3,
    slidesToScroll: 1,
    autoplay: false,
    autoplaySpeed: 2000,
    arrows: true,
    draggable: false,
    prevArrow: '<button type="button" data-role="none" class="slick-prev"><img src="' + require("@/assets/img/icon/Arrow_Left.svg")+'"></button>',

How to compile a static library in Linux?

See Creating a shared and static library with the gnu compiler [gcc]

gcc -c -o out.o out.c

-c means to create an intermediary object file, rather than an executable.

ar rcs libout.a out.o

This creates the static library. r means to insert with replacement, c means to create a new archive, and s means to write an index. As always, see the man page for more info.

How do I convert from int to String?

The other way I am aware of is from the Integer class:

Integer.toString(int n);
Integer.toString(int n, int radix);

A concrete example (though I wouldn't think you need any):

String five = Integer.toString(5); // returns "5"

It also works for other primitive types, for instance Double.toString.

See here for more details.

SQL SERVER DATETIME FORMAT

This is my favorite use of 112 and 114

select (convert(varchar, getdate(), 112)+ replace(convert(varchar, getdate(), 114),':','')) as 'Getdate()

112 + 114 or YYYYMMDDHHMMSSMSS'

Result:

Getdate() 112 + 114 or YYYYMMDDHHMMSSMSS

Number to String in a formula field

i wrote a simple function for this:

Function (stringVar param)
(
    Local stringVar oneChar := '0';
    Local numberVar strLen := Length(param);
    Local numberVar index := strLen;

    oneChar = param[strLen];

    while index > 0 and oneChar = '0' do
    (
        oneChar := param[index];
        index := index - 1;
    );

    Left(param , index + 1);
)

<!--[if !IE]> not working

In case you are working with IE 10 or above, as mentioned in http://tanalin.com/en/articles/ie-version-js/ the conditional comments are no longer supported. You might refer to https://gist.github.com/jasongaylord/5733469 as an alternative method, which the Trident version is checked as well from the navigator.userAgent. This also verified in case the browser is working in compatibility mode.
