Git add all subdirectories

Is there any advantage of using map over unordered_map in case of trivial keys?

Significant differences that have not really been adequately mentioned here:

  • map keeps iterators to all elements stable, in C++17 you can even move elements from one map to the other without invalidating iterators to them (and if properly implemented without any potential allocation).
  • map timings for single operations are typically more consistent since they never need large allocations.
  • unordered_map using std::hash as implemented in the libstdc++ is vulnerable to DoS if fed with untrusted input (it uses MurmurHash2 with a constant seed - not that seeding would really help, see https://emboss.github.io/blog/2012/12/14/breaking-murmur-hash-flooding-dos-reloaded/).
  • Being ordered enables efficient range searches, e.g. iterate over all elements with key = 42.

Get bytes from std::string in C++

std::string::data would seem to be sufficient and most efficient. If you want to have non-const memory to manipulate (strange for encryption) you can copy the data to a buffer using memcpy:

STL fanboys would encourage you to use std::copy instead:

std::copy(mystring.begin(), mystring.end(), buffer);

but there really isn't much of an upside to this. If you need null termination use std::string::c_str() and the various string duplication techniques others have provided, but I'd generally avoid that and just query for the length. Particularly with cryptography you just know somebody is going to try to break it by shoving nulls in to it, and using std::string::data() discourages you from lazily making assumptions about the underlying bits in the string.

Twitter Bootstrap modal on mobile devices

Make use of "git reflog" to check the history of the HEAD in the branch.

GitHub: Permission denied (publickey). fatal: The remote end hung up unexpectedly

Given that none of the answers here worked for me, I finally tracked down my issue connecting to Bitbucket (or Github, doesn't matter in this case) with ssh -vT [email protected].

In my case, the failure was due to using a DSA key instead of RSA, and apparently my SSH client no longer allows that.

debug1: Skipping ssh-dss key /c/Users/USER/.ssh/id_dsa for not in PubkeyAcceptedKeyTypes

The solution was to add this to .ssh/config:

    PubkeyAcceptedKeyTypes +ssh-dss

This elegantly appends the ssh-dss key type to all existing accepted public key types and after this was done, git can now ssh into Bitbucket no problem.

"UnboundLocalError: local variable referenced before assignment" after an if statement

Your if statement is always false and T gets initialized only if a condition is met, so the code doesn't reach the point where T gets a value (and by that, gets defined/bound). You should introduce the variable in a place that always gets executed.

Traditionally PHP has been tolerant to bad practice and failures in code, which makes debugging quite hard. The problem in this specific case is that both mysqli and PDO by default don't tell you, when a query failed and just return FALSE. (I will not talk about the depricated mysql extention. The support for prepared statements is reason anough to switch either to PDO or mysqli.) But you can change the default behavior of PHP to always throw exceptions when a query fails.

For PDO: Use $pdo->setAttribute(PDO::ATTR_ERRMODE, PDO::ERRMODE_EXCEPTION);

Simple way to get element by id within a div tag?

Unfortunately this is invalid HTML. An ID has to be unique in the whole HTML file.

When you use Javascript's document.getElementById() it depends on the browser, which element it will return, mostly it's the first with a given ID.

You will have no other chance as to re-assign your IDs, or alternatively using the class attribute.

So, this is definitely not the "shorter" version - and one might digress if "shortest" and "Pythonic" are actually compatible.

But if one needs this pattern often, just put the logic in to a 10-liner generator - and get any meta-data related to an element's position directly on the for call. Another advantage here is that it will work wit an arbitrary iterable, not only Sequences.

define() vs. const

Until PHP 5.3, const could not be used in the global scope. You could only use this from within a class. This should be used when you want to set some kind of constant option or setting that pertains to that class. Or maybe you want to create some kind of enum.

define can be used for the same purpose, but it can only be used in the global scope. It should only be used for global settings that affect the entire application.

An example of good const usage is to get rid of magic numbers. Take a look at PDO's constants. When you need to specify a fetch type, you would type PDO::FETCH_ASSOC, for example. If consts were not used, you'd end up typing something like 35 (or whatever FETCH_ASSOC is defined as). This makes no sense to the reader.

An example of good define usage is maybe specifying your application's root path or a library's version number.

I too tried to change the support library to "23". When I changed the targetSdkVersion to 23, Android Studio reported the following error:

This support library should not use a lower version (22) than the targetSdkVersion (23)

I simply changed:

Although this fixed my issue, you should not use dynamic versions. After a few hours the new support repository was available and it is currently 23.0.1.

Java doesn't natively allow building of an exe, that would defeat its purpose of being cross-platform.

AFAIK, these are your options:

  1. Make a runnable JAR. If the system supports it and is configured appropriately, in a GUI, double clicking the JAR will launch the app. Another option would be to write a launcher shell script/batch file which will start your JAR with the appropriate parameters

If you are using non-parallel direct path loads then consider and benchmark not dropping the indexes at all, particularly if the indexes only cover a minority of the columns. Oracle has a mechanism for efficient maintenance of indexes on direct path loads.

Otherwise, I'd also advise making the indexes unusable instead of dropping them. Less chance of accidentally not recreating an index.

I don't see the benefit in aliasing out users tied to Schemas. Here is why....

Most people connect their user accounts to databases via roles initially, As soon as you assign a user to either the sysadmin, or the database role db_owner, in any form, that account is either aliased to the "dbo" user account, or has full permissions on a database. Once that occurs, no matter how you assign yourself to a scheme beyond your default schema (which has the same name as your user account), those dbo rights are assigned to those object you create under your user and schema. Its kinda pointless.....and just a namespace and confuses true ownership on those objects. Its poor design if you ask me....whomever designed it.

What they should have done is created "Groups", and thrown out schemas and role and just allow you to tier groups of groups in any combination you like, then at each tier tell the system if permissions are inherited, denied, or overwritten with custom ones. This would have been so much more intuitive and allowed DBA's to better control who the real owners are on those objects. Right now its implied in most cases the dbo default SQL Server user has those rights....not the user.

I would like to add that if the initial value comes from a binding from some parent element or 1.5 component, make sure that the proper type is passed. If using @ in binding, the variable passed will be string and if the options are eg. integers then the empty option will show up.

Either parse properly the value in init, or binding with < and not @ (less recommended for performance unless necessary).

Reportviewer tool missing in visual studio 2017 RC

Microsoft has released a new version of the control 150.1400.0 in their Nuget library. My short testing shows that it works again in the forms designer where 150.1357.0 and 150.1358.0 did not. This includes being able to resize and modify the ReportViewer Tasks on the control itself.

** Update**: 8/18/2019

Removing the latest version and rolling back to 150.900.148.0 seems to work on multiple computers I'm using with VS2017 and VS2019.

You can roll back to 150.900.148 in the Nuget solution package manager. It works similarly to the previous versions. Use the drop down box to select the older version.

It may be easier to manually delete references to post 150.900 versions of ReportViewer and readd them than it is to fix them.

Remember to restart Visual Studio after changing the toolbox entry.

Update: 8/7/2019

A newer version of the ReportViewer control has been released, probably coinciding with Visual Studio 2019. I was working with V150.1358.0.

Following the directions in this answer gets the control in the designer's toolbox. But once dropped on the form it doesn't display. The control shows up below the form as a non-visual component.

This is working as designed according to Microsoft SQL BI support. This is the group responsible for the control.

While you still cannot interact with the control directly, these additional steps give a workaround so the control can be sized on the form. While now visible, the designer treats the control as if it didn't exist.

I've created a feedback request at the suggestion of Microsoft SQL BI support. Please consider voting on it to get Microsoft's attention.

  • Add a Panel Control to the WinForm.
  • In the form's form.designer.cs file, add the Reportviewer control to the panel.

Visual Studio 2017 does not have the ReportViewer tool installed by default in the ToolBox. Installing the extension Microsoft Rdlc Report Designer for Visual Studio and then adding that to the ToolBox results in a non-visual component that appears below the form.

Microsoft Support had told me this is a bug, but as of April 21, 2017 it is "working as designed".

The following steps need to be followed for each project that requires ReportViewer.

  • If you have ReportViewer in the Toolbox, remove it. Highlight, right-click and delete.
    • You will have to have a project with a form open to do this.

Edited 8/7/2019 - It looks like the current version of the RDLC Report Designer extension no longer interferes. You need this to actually edit the reports.

  • If you have the Microsoft Rdlc Report Designer for Visual Studio extension installed, uninstall it.

  • Close your solution and restart Visual Studio. This is a crucial step, errors will occur if VS is not restarted when switching between solutions.

  • Open your solution.
  • Open the NuGet Package Manager Console (Tools/NuGet Package Manager/Package Manager Console)
  • At the PM> prompt enter this command, case matters.

    Install-Package Microsoft.ReportingServices.ReportViewerControl.WinForms

    You should see text describing the installation of the package.

Now we can temporarily add the ReportViewer tool to the tool box.

  • Right-click in the toolbox and use Choose Items...

  • We need to browse to the proper DLL that is located in the solutions Packages folder, so hit the browse button.

  • In our example we can paste in the packages folder as shown in the text of Package Manager Console.

  • Finally, double click on the file Microsoft.ReportViewer.WinForms.dll

    You should see ReportViewer checked in the dialog. Scroll to the right and you will see the version 14.0.0.0 associated to it.

  • Click OK.

ReportViewer is now located in the ToolBox.

  • Drag the tool to the desired form(s).

  • Once completed, delete the ReportViewer tool from the tool box. You can't use it with another project.

  • You may save the project and are good to go.

Remember to restart Visual Studio any time you need to open a project with ReportViewer so that the DLL is loaded from the correct location. If you try and open a solution with a form with ReportViewer without restarting you will see errors indicating that the “The variable 'reportViewer1' is either undeclared or was never assigned.“.

If you add a new project to the same solution you need to create the project, save the solution, restart Visual Studio and then you should be able to add the ReportViewer to the form. I have seen it not work the first time and show up as a non-visual component.

When that happens, removing the component from the form, deleting the Microsoft.ReportViewer.* references from the project, saving and restarting usually works.

I am posting this answer because this thread seems to have a lot of visitors, yet it had no proper solution to solve this issue. But there will be soon now a way with Bootstrap 4 :

As this GitHub pull request shows, you will just have to use the text-weight-normal, text-weight-bold and text-weight-italic classes.

This can maybe change until the official stable release. At this date of writing, this pull request is not merged yet in the alpha branch.

I will update this post once Bootstrap v4 has been released.

Apparently your signed integer -62 is stored in two's complement (Wikipedia) on your platform:

What's the difference between display:inline-flex and display:flex?

display: inline-flex does not make flex items display inline. It makes the flex container display inline. That is the only difference between display: inline-flex and display: flex. A similar comparison can be made between display: inline-block and display: block, and pretty much any other display type that has an inline counterpart.1

There is absolutely no difference in the effect on flex items; flex layout is identical whether the flex container is block-level or inline-level. In particular, the flex items themselves always behave like block-level boxes (although they do have some properties of inline-blocks). You cannot display flex items inline; otherwise you don't actually have a flex layout.

It is not clear what exactly you mean by "vertically align" or why exactly you want to display the contents inline, but I suspect that flexbox is not the right tool for whatever you are trying to accomplish. Chances are what you're looking for is just plain old inline layout (display: inline and/or display: inline-block), for which flexbox is not a replacement; flexbox is not the universal layout solution that everyone claims it is (I'm stating this because the misconception is probably why you're considering flexbox in the first place).

I know it looks like an overkill and probably it is, but it works for me (checked both positive, negative, big and small numbers of different precision and scale - everything is converted to decimal(38,10) or NULL).

It is hard-coded to decimal(38,10) type, so if you need different precision, change the constants in the code (38, 10, 29).

How it works? The result is:

  • if conversion is simple without overflow or precision loss (e.g. 123 or 123.456), then it just convert it.
  • if number is not too big, but has too many digits after decimal point (e.g. 123.1234567890123456789012345678901234567890), then it trims the exceeding digits at the end keeping only 38 first digits.
  • if number is too big and can't be converted to decimal without an overflow (e.g. 9876543210987654321098765432109876543210), then NULL is returned

each case is separate WHEN statement inthe code above.

From cmd as administrator:

  1. sc config http start= demand (you need a space after the equal sign and not before)
  2. Reboot
  3. Run the command (netsh http show servicestate) as administrator to check that the port 80 is in use

After you have run this command, you can disable http.sys as follows:

  1. net stop http (stop the process)
  2. Sc config http start= disabled (if you want to disable the service forever)

Depending on the libc release it could be needed to set both SO_REUSEADDR and SO_REUSEPORT socket options as explained in socket(7) documentation :

Of course, you could just add localeCompare if needed:

&& is new in C++11. int&& a means "a" is an r-value reference. && is normally only used to declare a parameter of a function. And it only takes a r-value expression. If you don't know what an r-value is, the simple explanation is that it doesn't have a memory address. E.g. the number 6, and character 'v' are both r-values. int a, a is an l-value, however (a+2) is an r-value. For example:

OOP vs Functional Programming vs Procedural

For GUI I'd say that the Object-Oriented Paradigma is very well suited. The Window is an Object, the Textboxes are Objects, and the Okay-Button is one too. On the other Hand stuff like String Processing can be done with much less overhead and therefore more straightforward with simple procedural paradigma.

I don't think it is a question of the language neither. You can write functional, procedural or object-oriented in almost any popular language, although it might be some additional effort in some.

How can I add new dimensions to a Numpy array?

There is no structure in numpy that allows you to append more data later.

Instead, numpy puts all of your data into a contiguous chunk of numbers (basically; a C array), and any resize requires allocating a new chunk of memory to hold it. Numpy's speed comes from being able to keep all the data in a numpy array in the same chunk of memory; e.g. mathematical operations can be parallelized for speed and you get less cache misses.

So you will have two kinds of solutions:

  1. Pre-allocate the memory for the numpy array and fill in the values, like in JoshAdel's answer, or
  2. Keep your data in a normal python list until it's actually needed to put them all together (see below)

Note that there is no need to expand the dimensions of the individual image arrays first, nor do you need to know how many images you expect ahead of time.

Grab a segment of an array in Java without creating a new array on heap

Java references always point to an object. The object has a header that amongst other things identifies the concrete type (so casts can fail with ClassCastException). For arrays, the start of the object also includes the length, the data then follows immediately after in memory (technically an implementation is free to do what it pleases, but it would be daft to do anything else). So, you can;t have a reference that points somewhere into an array.

In C pointers point anywhere and to anything, and you can point to the middle of an array. But you can't safely cast or find out how long the array is. In D the pointer contains an offset into the memory block and length (or equivalently a pointer to the end, I can't remember what the implementation actually does). This allows D to slice arrays. In C++ you would have two iterators pointing to the start and end, but C++ is a bit odd like that.

So getting back to Java, no you can't. As mentioned, NIO ByteBuffer allows you to wrap an array and then slice it, but gives an awkward interface. You can of course copy, which is probably very much faster than you would think. You could introduce your own String-like abstraction that allows you to slice an array (the current Sun implementation of String has a char[] reference plus a start offset and length, higher performance implementation just have the char[]). byte[] is low level, but any class-based abstraction you put on that is going to make an awful mess of the syntax, until JDK7 (perhaps).

You mention you are using Pandas (in your title). If so, there is no need to use an external library, you can just use to_datetime

This will always return today's date at midnight, irrespective of the actual time, and can be directly used in pandas to do comparisons etc. Pandas always includes 00:00:00 in its datetimes.

Replacing today with now would give you the date in UTC instead of local time; note that in neither case is the tzinfo (timezone) added.

In pandas versions prior to 0.23.x, normalize may not have been necessary to remove the non-midnight timestamp.

Initialize class fields in constructor or at declaration?

In C# it doesn't matter. The two code samples you give are utterly equivalent. In the first example the C# compiler (or is it the CLR?) will construct an empty constructor and initialise the variables as if they were in the constructor (there's a slight nuance to this that Jon Skeet explains in the comments below). If there is already a constructor then any initialisation "above" will be moved into the top of it.

In terms of best practice the former is less error prone than the latter as someone could easily add another constructor and forget to chain it.

Each database's implementation but you can probably guess that they all solve common problems in more or less the same way. If you are using MSSQL have a look at the execution plan that is generated. You can do this by turning on the profiler and executions plans. This will give you a text version when you run the command.

I am not sure what version of MSSQL you are using but you can get a graphical one in SQL Server 2000 in the query analyzer. I am sure that this functionality is lurking some where in SQL Server Studio Manager in later versions.

Have a look at the exeuction plan. As far as possible avoid table scans unless of course your table is small in which case a table scan is faster than using an index. Read up on the different join operations that each different scenario produces.

It doesn't matter which of those extensions you'd use. Pick whichever you like more, just be consistent with naming. The only exception I'm aware of with this naming convention is that I couldn't make WinDDK (or is it WDK now?) to compile .cc files. On Linux though that's hardly a problem.

Load properties file in JAR?

The problem is that you are using getSystemResourceAsStream. Use simply getResourceAsStream. System resources load from the system classloader, which is almost certainly not the class loader that your jar is loaded into when run as a webapp.

It works in Eclipse because when launching an application, the system classloader is configured with your jar as part of its classpath. (E.g. java -jar my.jar will load my.jar in the system class loader.) This is not the case with web applications - application servers use complex class loading to isolate webapplications from each other and from the internals of the application server. For example, see the tomcat classloader how-to, and the diagram of the classloader hierarchy used.

EDIT: Normally, you would call getClass().getResourceAsStream() to retrieve a resource in the classpath, but as you are fetching the resource in a static initializer, you will need to explicitly name a class that is in the classloader you want to load from. The simplest approach is to use the class containing the static initializer, e.g.

Converting an integer to a string in PHP

As the answers here demonstrates nicely, yes, there are several ways. However, in PHP you rarely actually need to do that. The "dogmatic way" to write PHP is to rely on the language's loose typing system, which will transparently coerce the type as needed. For integer values, this is usually without trouble. You should be very careful with floating point values, though.

Note that your second example was close, but the IF() function always takes three arguments, so it would have had to be COUNT(IF(kind=1,1,NULL)). I prefer the SUM() syntax shown above because it's concise.

In getUserById you shouldn't create a new object (user1) which isn't used. Just assign it to the already (but null) initialized user. Otherwise Hibernate.initialize(user); is actually Hibernate.initialize(null);

You can do it like this:

Add a space (" ") after an element using :after

There can be a problem with "\00a0" in pseudo-elements because it takes the text-decoration of its defining element, so that, for example, if the defining element is underlined, then the white space of the pseudo-element is also underlined.

The easiest way to deal with this is to define the opacity of the pseudo-element to be zero, eg:
