Programs & Examples On #Jquery post

The jQuery command $.post is used to "post" PHP variables asynchronously from the current page without reloading or leaving the current page. Data can then be retrieved from the request and used on the current page.

Table is marked as crashed and should be repaired

I had the same issue when my server free disk space available was 0

You can use the command (there must be ample space for the mysql files)

REPAIR TABLE `<table name>`;

for repairing individual tables

Why can I ping a server but not connect via SSH?

Find out two pieces of information

  • Whats the hostname or IP of the target ssh server
  • What port is the ssh daemon listening on (default is port 22)

$> telnet <hostname or ip> <port>

Assuming the daemon is up and running and listening on that port it should etablish a telnet session. Likely causes:

  • The ssh daemon is not running
  • The host is blocking the target port with its software firewall
  • Some intermediate network device is blocking or filtering the target port
  • The ssh daemon is listening on a non standard port
  • A TCP wrapper is configured and is filtering out your source host

Dark color scheme for Eclipse

For the quick hack, on Linux running GNOME with a Windows keyboard, Windows-Key-M will inverse-color all windows, and Windows-Key-N will inverse color a single window. It's an awesome feature, in my book.

How to perform update operations on columns of type JSONB in Postgres 9.4

If you're able to upgrade to Postgresql 9.5, the jsonb_set command is available, as others have mentioned.

In each of the following SQL statements, I've omitted the where clause for brevity; obviously, you'd want to add that back.

Update name:

UPDATE test SET data = jsonb_set(data, '{name}', '"my-other-name"');

Replace the tags (as oppose to adding or removing tags):

UPDATE test SET data = jsonb_set(data, '{tags}', '["tag3", "tag4"]');

Replacing the second tag (0-indexed):

UPDATE test SET data = jsonb_set(data, '{tags,1}', '"tag5"');

Append a tag (this will work as long as there are fewer than 999 tags; changing argument 999 to 1000 or above generates an error. This no longer appears to be the case in Postgres 9.5.3; a much larger index can be used):

UPDATE test SET data = jsonb_set(data, '{tags,999999999}', '"tag6"', true);

Remove the last tag:

UPDATE test SET data = data #- '{tags,-1}'

Complex update (delete the last tag, insert a new tag, and change the name):

UPDATE test SET data = jsonb_set(
    jsonb_set(data #- '{tags,-1}', '{tags,999999999}', '"tag3"', true),
    '{name}', '"my-other-name"');

It's important to note that in each of these examples, you're not actually updating a single field of the JSON data. Instead, you're creating a temporary, modified version of the data, and assigning that modified version back to the column. In practice, the result should be the same, but keeping this in mind should make complex updates, like the last example, more understandable.

In the complex example, there are three transformations and three temporary versions: First, the last tag is removed. Then, that version is transformed by adding a new tag. Next, the second version is transformed by changing the name field. The value in the data column is replaced with the final version.

PHP class not found but it's included

you should declare namespace in the ClassUser.php, something like this:

<?php
namespace app; // where 'app' is a folder declared as a root for the project
class ClassUser{
public function test(){
//log something here
}
}
?>

Then you can add the class in your other php files like this:

<?php
use app\ClassUser;
$classUserLcl = new ClassUser();
$classUserLcl->test();
?>

and you are done. Otherwize it will abuse:

You Oh! its a Fatal error : Uncaught Error: Class 'app\ClassUser' not found in ...

Automatic creation date for Django model form objects?

React - how to pass state to another component

Move all of your state and your handleClick function from Header to your MainWrapper component.

Then pass values as props to all components that need to share this functionality.

class MainWrapper extends React.Component {
    constructor() {
        super();
        this.state = {
            sidbarPushCollapsed: false,
            profileCollapsed: false
        };
        this.handleClick = this.handleClick.bind(this);
    }
    handleClick() {
        this.setState({
            sidbarPushCollapsed: !this.state.sidbarPushCollapsed,
            profileCollapsed: !this.state.profileCollapsed

        });
    }
    render() {
        return (
           //...
           <Header
               handleClick={this.handleClick}
               sidbarPushCollapsed={this.state.sidbarPushCollapsed}
               profileCollapsed={this.state.profileCollapsed} />
        );

Then in your Header's render() method, you'd use this.props:

<button type="button" id="sidbarPush" onClick={this.props.handleClick} profile={this.props.profileCollapsed}>

Insert line at middle of file with Python?

If you want to search a file for a substring and add a new text to the next line, one of the elegant ways to do it is the following:

import fileinput
for line in fileinput.FileInput(file_path,inplace=1):
    if "TEXT_TO_SEARCH" in line:
        line=line.replace(line,line+"NEW_TEXT")
    print line,

Check substring exists in a string in C

My own humble (case sensitive) solution:

uint8_t strContains(char* string, char* toFind)
{
    uint8_t slen = strlen(string);
    uint8_t tFlen = strlen(toFind);
    uint8_t found = 0;

    if( slen >= tFlen )
    {
        for(uint8_t s=0, t=0; s<slen; s++)
        {
            do{

                if( string[s] == toFind[t] )
                {
                    if( ++found == tFlen ) return 1;
                    s++;
                    t++;
                }
                else { s -= found; found=0; t=0; }

              }while(found);
        }
        return 0;
    }
    else return -1;
}

querySelectorAll with modern enumeration

polls = document.querySelectorAll('[id ^= "poll-"]');
Array.prototype.forEach.call(polls, callback);

function callback(element, iterator) {

}

The first line selects all elements which id starts with the string poll-. The second line evokes the enumeration and a callback function.

Remove files from Git commit

If for any reason (as it was in my case) you'll have trouble reseting all files from the last commit - as in git reset --soft HEAD^ - and your case mets the following conditions, you can do as I explain below.

  1. the file you are trying to remove already existed in repository before the last commit
  2. you can undo all changes in the file since the previous commit (HEAD~2 - the commit just before the last commit)

You can then undo all the changes since the previous commit (HEAD~2), save the file, stage it (git add filename) and then run git commit --amend --no-edit. This will commit the "new changes" - which is actually recommitting the file to the last commit as it was before the last commit.

HTTP test server accepting GET/POST requests

http://requestb.in was similar to the already mentioned tools and also had a very nice UI.

RequestBin gives you a URL that will collect requests made to it and let you inspect them in a human-friendly way. Use RequestBin to see what your HTTP client is sending or to inspect and debug webhook requests.

Though it has been discontinued as of Mar 21, 2018.

We have discontinued the publicly hosted version of RequestBin due to ongoing abuse that made it very difficult to keep the site up reliably. Please see instructions for setting up your own self-hosted instance.

VBA equivalent to Excel's mod function

My way to replicate Excel's MOD(a,b) in VBA is to use XLMod(a,b) in VBA where you include the function:

Function XLMod(a, b)
    ' This replicates the Excel MOD function
    XLMod = a - b * Int(a / b)
End Function

in your VBA Module

Foreign Key to multiple tables

Yet another option is to have, in Ticket, one column specifying the owning entity type (User or Group), second column with referenced User or Group id and NOT to use Foreign Keys but instead rely on a Trigger to enforce referential integrity.

Two advantages I see here over Nathan's excellent model (above):

  • More immediate clarity and simplicity.
  • Simpler queries to write.

How to declare a variable in MySQL?

Different types of variable:

  • local variables (which are not prefixed by @) are strongly typed and scoped to the stored program block in which they are declared. Note that, as documented under DECLARE Syntax:

DECLARE is permitted only inside a BEGIN ... END compound statement and must be at its start, before any other statements.

  • User variables (which are prefixed by @) are loosely typed and scoped to the session. Note that they neither need nor can be declared—just use them directly.

Therefore, if you are defining a stored program and actually do want a "local variable", you will need to drop the @ character and ensure that your DECLARE statement is at the start of your program block. Otherwise, to use a "user variable", drop the DECLARE statement.

Furthermore, you will either need to surround your query in parentheses in order to execute it as a subquery:

SET @countTotal = (SELECT COUNT(*) FROM nGrams);

Or else, you could use SELECT ... INTO:

SELECT COUNT(*) INTO @countTotal FROM nGrams;

Permanently add a directory to PYTHONPATH?

Fix Python Path issues when you switch from bash to zsh

I ran into Python Path problems when I switched to zsh from bash.

The solution was simple, but I failed to notice.

Pip was showing me, that the scripts blah blah or package blah blah is installed in ~/.local/bin which is not in path.

After reading some solutions to this question, I opened my .zshrc to find that the solution already existed.

I had to simply uncomment a line:

Take a look

The type initializer for 'CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.ReportDocument' threw an exception

I had similar message and after several searches online and doing all suggestions, nothing helped. Finally I found the solution. In my IIS server, under the application pool advance option, there is an option for "Enable 32-Bit Applications" - that was changed from false to true and after restarting IIS server, My program started generating pdf files.

Understanding string reversal via slicing

Count number of occurrences by month

Make column B in sheet1 the dates but where the day of the month is always the first day of the month, e.g. in B2 put =DATE(YEAR(A2),MONTH(A2),1). Then make E5 on sheet 2 contain the first date of the month you need, e.g. Date(2013,4,1). After that, putting in F5 COUNTIF(Sheet1!B2:B50, E5) will give you the count for the month specified in E5.

How to display Base64 images in HTML?

Seems there is some error in your data URL.

Check "Format as Data URL" option to format base64 data as URL.

Using a custom (ttf) font in CSS

You need to use the css-property font-face to declare your font. Have a look at this fancy site: http://www.font-face.com/

Example:

@font-face {
  font-family: MyHelvetica;
  src: local("Helvetica Neue Bold"),
       local("HelveticaNeue-Bold"),
       url(MgOpenModernaBold.ttf);
  font-weight: bold;
}

python - find index position in list based of partial string

Your idea to use enumerate() was correct.

indices = []
for i, elem in enumerate(mylist):
    if 'aa' in elem:
        indices.append(i)

Alternatively, as a list comprehension:

indices = [i for i, elem in enumerate(mylist) if 'aa' in elem]

Filter Excel pivot table using VBA

I think i am understanding your question. This filters things that are in the column labels or the row labels. The last 2 sections of the code is what you want but im pasting everything so that you can see exactly how It runs start to finish with everything thats defined etc. I definitely took some of this code from other sites fyi.

Near the end of the code, the "WardClinic_Category" is a column of my data and in the column label of the pivot table. Same for the IVUDDCIndicator (its a column in my data but in the row label of the pivot table).

Hope this helps others...i found it very difficult to find code that did this the "proper way" rather than using code similar to the macro recorder.

ASP.NET MVC: What is the purpose of @section?

@section is for defining a content are override from a shared view. Basically, it is a way for you to adjust your shared view (similar to a Master Page in Web Forms).

You might find Scott Gu's write up on this very interesting.

Edit: Based on additional question clarification

The @RenderSection syntax goes into the Shared View, such as:

<div id="sidebar">
    @RenderSection("Sidebar", required: false)
</div>

This would then be placed in your view with @Section syntax:

@section Sidebar{
    <!-- Content Here -->
}

In MVC3+ you can either define the Layout file to be used for the view directly or you can have a default view for all views.

Common view settings can be set in _ViewStart.cshtml which defines the default layout view similar to this:

@{
    Layout = "~/Views/Shared/_Layout.cshtml";
}

You can also set the Shared View to use directly in the file, such as index.cshtml directly as shown in this snippet.

@{
    ViewBag.Title = "Corporate Homepage";
    ViewBag.BodyID = "page-home";
    Layout = "~/Views/Shared/_Layout2.cshtml";
}

There are a variety of ways you can adjust this setting with a few more mentioned in this SO answer.

sql how to cast a select query

Yes you can do.

Syntax for CAST:

CAST ( expression AS data_type [ ( length ) ] )

For example:

CAST(MyColumn AS Varchar(10))

CAST in SELECT Statement:

Select CAST(MyColumn AS Varchar(10)) AS MyColumn
FROM MyTable

How to set iframe size dynamically

I've found this to work the best across all browsers and devices (PC, tables & mobile).

<script type="text/javascript">
                      function iframeLoaded() {
                          var iFrameID = document.getElementById('idIframe');
                          if(iFrameID) {
                                // here you can make the height, I delete it first, then I make it again
                                iFrameID.height = "";
                                iFrameID.height = iFrameID.contentWindow.document.body.scrollHeight + "px";
                          }
                      }
                    </script>

<iframe id="idIframe" onload="iframeLoaded()" frameborder="0" src="yourpage.php" height="100%" width="100%" scrolling="no"></iframe>

Using String Format to show decimal up to 2 places or simple integer

If none of the other answers work for you, it may be because you are binding the ContentProperty of a control in the OnLoad function, which means this won't work:

private void UserControl_Load(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e)
{
  Bind.SetBindingElement(labelName, String.Format("{0:0.00}", PropertyName), Label.ContentProperty)
}

The solution is simple: there is a ContentStringFormat property in the xaml. So when you create the label do this:

//if you want the decimal places definite
<Label Content="0" Name="labelName" ContentStringFormat="0.00"/>

Or

//if you want the decimal places to be optional
<Label Content="0" Name="labelName" ContentStringFormat="0.##"/>

Add common prefix to all cells in Excel

Another way to do this:

  1. Put your prefix in one column say column A in excel
  2. Put the values to which you want to add prefix in another column say column B in excel
  3. In Column C, use this formula;

"C1=A1&B1"

  1. Copy all the values in column C and paste it again in the same selection but as values only.

CSS background image URL failing to load

I know this is really old, but I'm posting my solution anyways since google finds this thread.

background-image: url('./imagefolder/image.jpg');

That is what I do. Two dots means drill back one directory closer to root ".." while one "." should mean start where you are at as if it were root. I was having similar issues but adding that fixed it for me. You can even leave the "." in it when uploading to your host because it should work fine so long as your directory setup is exactly the same.

Round button with text and icon in flutter

If You need the text to be centered, and the image to be besides it, like this: Flutter RaisedButton with image and centered text

Then You can achieve it with this widget tree:

RaisedButton(
  onPressed: () {},
  child: Row(
    mainAxisAlignment: MainAxisAlignment.spaceBetween,
    children: <Widget>[
      Expanded(child: Text(
        'Push it! '*10,
        textAlign: TextAlign.center,
      ),),
      Image.network(
        'https://picsum.photos/250?image=9',
      ),
    ],
  ),
),

Get all mysql selected rows into an array

I would suggest the use of MySQLi or MySQL PDO for performance and security purposes, but to answer the question:

while($row = mysql_fetch_assoc($result)){
     $json[] = $row;
}

echo json_encode($json);

If you switched to MySQLi you could do:

$query = "SELECT * FROM table";
$result = mysqli_query($db, $query);

$json = mysqli_fetch_all ($result, MYSQLI_ASSOC);
echo json_encode($json );

CASE in WHERE, SQL Server

Correct way to read a text file into a buffer in C?

Yes - you would probably be arrested for your terriable abuse of strcat !

Take a look at getline() it reads the data a line at a time but importantly it can limit the number of characters you read, so you don't overflow the buffer.

Strcat is relatively slow because it has to search the entire string for the end on every character insertion. You would normally keep a pointer to the current end of the string storage and pass that to getline as the position to read the next line into.

Converting to upper and lower case in Java

String inputval="ABCb";
String result = inputval.substring(0,1).toUpperCase() + inputval.substring(1).toLowerCase();

Would change "ABCb" to "Abcb"

How can I go back/route-back on vue-router?

You can use Programmatic Navigation.In order to go back, you use this:

router.go(n)

Where n can be positive or negative (to go back). This is the same as history.back().So you can have your element like this:

<a @click="$router.go(-1)">back</a>

How to remove error about glyphicons-halflings-regular.woff2 not found

For me, the problem was twofold: First, the version of IIS I was dealing with didn't know about the .woff2 MIME type, only about .woff. I fixed that using IIS Manager at the server level, not at the web app level, so the setting wouldn't get overridden with each new app deployment. (Under IIS Manager, I went to MIME types, and added the missing .woff2, then updated .woff.)

Second, and more importantly, I was bundling bootstrap.css along with some other files as "~/bundles/css/site". Meanwhile, my font files were in "~/fonts". bootstrap.css looks for the glyphicon fonts in "../fonts", which translated to "~/bundles/fonts" -- wrong path.

In other words, my bundle path was one directory too deep. I renamed it to "~/bundles/siteCss", and updated all the references to it that I found in my project. Now bootstrap looked in "~/fonts" for the glyphicon files, which worked. Problem solved.

Before I fixed the second problem above, none of the glyphicon font files were loading. The symptom was that all instances of glyphicon glyphs in the project just showed an empty box. However, this symptom only occurred in the deployed versions of the web app, not on my dev machine. I'm still not sure why that was the case.

Windows batch: echo without new line

A solution for the stripped white space in SET /P:

the trick is that backspace char which you can summon in the text editor EDIT for DOS. To create it in EDIT press ctrlP+ctrlH. I would paste it here but this webpage can't display it. It's visible on Notepad though (it's werid, like a small black rectangle with a white circle in the center)

So you write this:

<nul set /p=.9    Hello everyone

The dot can be any char, it's only there to tell SET /P that the text starts there, before the spaces, and not at the "Hello". The "9" is a representation of the backspace char that I can't display here. You have to put it instead of the 9, and it will delete the "." , after which you'll get this:

    Hello Everyone

instead of:

Hello Everyone

I hope it helps

What is the Simplest Way to Reverse an ArrayList?

Simple way is that you have "Collections" in Java. You just need to call it and use "reverse()" method of it.

Example usage:

ArrayList<Integer> yourArrayList = new ArrayList<>();
    yourArrayList.add(1);
    yourArrayList.add(2);
    yourArrayList.add(3);
    //yourArrayList is: 1,2,3

Collections.reverse(yourArrayList);
    // Now, yourArrayList is: 3,2,1

C++ - How to append a char to char*?

The function name does not reflect the semantic of the function. In fact you do not append a character. You create a new character array that contains the original array plus the given character. So if you indeed need a function that appends a character to a character array I would write it the following way

bool AppendCharToCharArray( char *array, size_t n, char c )
{
    size_t sz = std::strlen( array );

    if ( sz + 1 < n )
    {
        array[sz] = c;
        array[sz + 1] = '\0';
    }

    return ( sz + 1 < n );
}

If you need a function that will contain a copy of the original array plus the given character then it could look the following way

char * CharArrayPlusChar( const char *array, char c )
{
    size_t sz = std::strlen( array );
    char *s = new char[sz + 2];

    std::strcpy( s, array );
    s[sz] = c;
    s[sz + 1] = '\0';

    return ( s );
}

Can you append strings to variables in PHP?

PHP syntax is little different in case of concatenation from JavaScript. Instead of (+) plus a (.) period is used for string concatenation.

<?php

$selectBox = '<select name="number">';
for ($i=1;$i<=100;$i++)
{
    $selectBox += '<option value="' . $i . '">' . $i . '</option>'; // <-- (Wrong) Replace + with .
    $selectBox .= '<option value="' . $i . '">' . $i . '</option>'; // <-- (Correct) Here + is replaced .
}
$selectBox += '</select>'; // <-- (Wrong) Replace + with .
$selectBox .= '</select>'; // <-- (Correct) Here + is replaced .
echo $selectBox;

?>

Can I pass parameters in computed properties in Vue.Js

You can use methods, but I prefer still to use computed properties instead of methods, if they're not mutating data or do not have external effects.

You can pass arguments to computed properties this way (not documented, but suggested by maintainers, don't remember where):

computed: {
   fullName: function () {
      var vm = this;
      return function (salut) {
          return salut + ' ' + vm.firstName + ' ' + vm.lastName;
      };
   }
}

EDIT: Please do not use this solution, it only complicates code without any benefits.

Finding an element in an array in Java

There is a contains method for lists, so you should be able to do:

Arrays.asList(yourArray).contains(yourObject);

Warning: this might not do what you (or I) expect, see Tom's comment below.

C# catch a stack overflow exception

As several users have already said, you can't catch the exception. However, if you're struggling to find out where it's happening, you may want to configure visual studio to break when it's thrown.

To do that, you need to open Exception Settings from the 'Debug' menu. In older versions of Visual Studio, this is at 'Debug' - 'Exceptions'; in newer versions, it's at 'Debug' - 'Windows' - 'Exception Settings'.

Once you have the settings open, expand 'Common Language Runtime Exceptions', expand 'System', scroll down and check 'System.StackOverflowException'. Then you can look at the call stack and look for the repeating pattern of calls. That should give you an idea of where to look to fix the code that's causing the stack overflow.

Is it possible to iterate through JSONArray?

Set Windows process (or user) memory limit

No way to do this that I know of, although I'm very curious to read if anyone has a good answer. I have been thinking about adding something like this to one of the apps my company builds, but have found no good way to do it.

The one thing I can think of (although not directly on point) is that I believe you can limit the total memory usage for a COM+ application in Windows. It would require the app to be written to run in COM+, of course, but it's the closest way I know of.

The working set stuff is good (Job Objects also control working sets), but that's not total memory usage, only real memory usage (paged in) at any one time. It may work for what you want, but afaik it doesn't limit total allocated memory.

Jquery - animate height toggle

You should be using a class to achieve what you want:

css:

#topbar { width: 100%; height: 40px; background-color: #000; }
#topbar.hide { height: 10px; }

javascript:

  $(document).ready(function(){
    $("#topbar").click(function(){
      if($(this).hasClass('hide')) {
        $(this).animate({height:40},200).removeClass('hide');
      } else {
        $(this).animate({height:10},200).addClass('hide');
      }
    });
  });

Getting a list of all subdirectories in the current directory

I've had a similar question recently, and I found out that the best answer for python 3.6 (as user havlock added) is to use os.scandir. Since it seems there is no solution using it, I'll add my own. First, a non-recursive solution that lists only the subdirectories directly under the root directory.

def get_dirlist(rootdir):

    dirlist = []

    with os.scandir(rootdir) as rit:
        for entry in rit:
            if not entry.name.startswith('.') and entry.is_dir():
                dirlist.append(entry.path)

    dirlist.sort() # Optional, in case you want sorted directory names
    return dirlist

The recursive version would look like this:

def get_dirlist(rootdir):

    dirlist = []

    with os.scandir(rootdir) as rit:
        for entry in rit:
            if not entry.name.startswith('.') and entry.is_dir():
                dirlist.append(entry.path)
                dirlist += get_dirlist(entry.path)

    dirlist.sort() # Optional, in case you want sorted directory names
    return dirlist

keep in mind that entry.path wields the absolute path to the subdirectory. In case you only need the folder name, you can use entry.name instead. Refer to os.DirEntry for additional details about the entry object.

Difference between "include" and "require" in php

As others pointed out, the only difference is that require throws a fatal error, and include - a catchable warning. As for which one to use, my advice is to stick to include. Why? because you can catch a warning and produce a meaningful feedback to end users. Consider

  // Example 1.
  // users see a standard php error message or a blank screen
  // depending on your display_errors setting
  require 'not_there';

  // Example 2.
  // users see a meaningful error message
  try {
      include 'not_there';
  } catch(Exception $e) {
     echo "something strange happened!";
  }

NB: for example 2 to work you need to install an errors-to-exceptions handler, as described here http://www.php.net/manual/en/class.errorexception.php

  function exception_error_handler($errno, $errstr, $errfile, $errline ) {
     throw new ErrorException($errstr, 0, $errno, $errfile, $errline);
  }
  set_error_handler("exception_error_handler");

How to get on scroll events?

You could use a @HostListener decorator. Works with Angular 4 and up.

import { HostListener } from '@angular/core';

@HostListener("window:scroll", []) onWindowScroll() {
    // do some stuff here when the window is scrolled
    const verticalOffset = window.pageYOffset
          || document.documentElement.scrollTop
          || document.body.scrollTop || 0;
}

How do I dispatch_sync, dispatch_async, dispatch_after, etc in Swift 3, Swift 4, and beyond?

Swift 5.2, 4 and later

Main and Background Queues

let main = DispatchQueue.main
let background = DispatchQueue.global()
let helper = DispatchQueue(label: "another_thread")

Working with async and sync threads!

 background.async { //async tasks here }
 background.sync { //sync tasks here }

Async threads will work along with the main thread.

Sync threads will block the main thread while executing.

How to use Utilities.sleep() function

Some Google services do not like to be used to much. Quite recently my account was locked because of script, which was sending two e-mails per second to the same user. Google considered it as a spam. So using sleep here is also justified to prevent such situations.

Convert Current date to integer

On my Java 7, the output is different:

Integer : 1293732698
Long : 1345618496346
Long date : Wed Aug 22 10:54:56 MSK 2012
Int Date : Fri Jan 16 02:22:12 MSK 1970

which is an expected behavior.

It is impossible to display the current date in milliseconds as an integer (10 digit number), because the latest possible date is Sun Apr 26 20:46:39 MSK 1970:

Date d = new Date(9999_9999_99L);
System.out.println("Date: " + d);

Date: Sun Apr 26 20:46:39 MSK 1970

You might want to consider displaying it in seconds/minutes.

How to extract custom header value in Web API message handler?

This may sound obvious, but make sure the Controller where you are reading the headers in, is the first Controller where the request goes through.

I had two WebAPI projects communicating with each other. The first one was a proxy, the second contained the logic. Silly me, I tried reading the custom headers in the second Controller, instead of the first one.

Expression must be a modifiable L-value

lvalue means "left value" -- it should be assignable. You cannot change the value of text since it is an array, not a pointer.

Either declare it as char pointer (in this case it's better to declare it as const char*):

const char *text;
if(number == 2)
    text = "awesome";
else
    text = "you fail";

Or use strcpy:

char text[60];
if(number == 2)
    strcpy(text, "awesome");
else
    strcpy(text, "you fail");

How can I check for an empty/undefined/null string in JavaScript?

Starting with:

return (!value || value == undefined || value == "" || value.length == 0);

Looking at the last condition, if value == "", its length must be 0. Therefore drop it:

return (!value || value == undefined || value == "");

But wait! In JavaScript, an empty string is false. Therefore, drop value == "":

return (!value || value == undefined);

And !undefined is true, so that check isn't needed. So we have:

return (!value);

And we don't need parentheses:

return !value

Case insensitive string as HashMap key

One approach is to create a custom subclass of the Apache Commons AbstractHashedMap class, overriding the hash and isEqualKeys methods to perform case insensitive hashing and comparison of keys. (Note - I've never tried this myself ...)

This avoids the overhead of creating new objects each time you need to do a map lookup or update. And the common Map operations should O(1) ... just like a regular HashMap.

And if you are prepared to accept the implementation choices they have made, the Apache Commons CaseInsensitiveMap does the work of customizing / specializing AbstractHashedMap for you.

But if O(logN) get and put operations are acceptable, a TreeMap with a case insensitive string comparator is an option; e.g. using String.CASE_INSENSITIVE_ORDER.

And if you don't mind creating a new temporary String object each time you do a put or get, then Vishal's answer is just fine. (Though, I note that you wouldn't be preserving the original case of the keys if you did that ...)

How to find the duration of difference between two dates in java?

In Java 8, you can make of DateTimeFormatter, Duration, and LocalDateTime. Here is an example:

final String dateStart = "11/03/14 09:29:58";
final String dateStop = "11/03/14 09:33:43";

final DateTimeFormatter formatter = new DateTimeFormatterBuilder()
        .appendValue(ChronoField.MONTH_OF_YEAR, 2)
        .appendLiteral('/')
        .appendValue(ChronoField.DAY_OF_MONTH, 2)
        .appendLiteral('/')
        .appendValueReduced(ChronoField.YEAR, 2, 2, 2000)
        .appendLiteral(' ')
        .appendValue(ChronoField.HOUR_OF_DAY, 2)
        .appendLiteral(':')
        .appendValue(ChronoField.MINUTE_OF_HOUR, 2)
        .appendLiteral(':')
        .appendValue(ChronoField.SECOND_OF_MINUTE, 2)
        .toFormatter();

final LocalDateTime start = LocalDateTime.parse(dateStart, formatter);
final LocalDateTime stop = LocalDateTime.parse(dateStop, formatter);

final Duration between = Duration.between(start, stop);

System.out.println(start);
System.out.println(stop);
System.out.println(formatter.format(start));
System.out.println(formatter.format(stop));
System.out.println(between);
System.out.println(between.get(ChronoUnit.SECONDS));

How to get pixel data from a UIImage (Cocoa Touch) or CGImage (Core Graphics)?

One way of doing it is to draw the image to a bitmap context that is backed by a given buffer for a given colorspace (in this case it is RGB): (note that this will copy the image data to that buffer, so you do want to cache it instead of doing this operation every time you need to get pixel values)

See below as a sample:

// First get the image into your data buffer
CGImageRef image = [myUIImage CGImage];
NSUInteger width = CGImageGetWidth(image);
NSUInteger height = CGImageGetHeight(image);
CGColorSpaceRef colorSpace = CGColorSpaceCreateDeviceRGB();
unsigned char *rawData = malloc(height * width * 4);
NSUInteger bytesPerPixel = 4;
NSUInteger bytesPerRow = bytesPerPixel * width;
NSUInteger bitsPerComponent = 8;
CGContextRef context = CGBitmapContextCreate(rawData, width, height, bitsPerComponent, bytesPerRow, colorSpace, kCGImageAlphaPremultipliedLast | kCGBitmapByteOrder32Big);
CGColorSpaceRelease(colorSpace);

CGContextDrawImage(context, CGRectMake(0, 0, width, height));
CGContextRelease(context);

// Now your rawData contains the image data in the RGBA8888 pixel format.
int byteIndex = (bytesPerRow * yy) + xx * bytesPerPixel;
red = rawData[byteIndex];
green = rawData[byteIndex + 1];
blue = rawData[byteIndex + 2];
alpha = rawData[byteIndex + 3];

How do I use the includes method in lodash to check if an object is in the collection?

The includes (formerly called contains and include) method compares objects by reference (or more precisely, with ===). Because the two object literals of {"b": 2} in your example represent different instances, they are not equal. Notice:

({"b": 2} === {"b": 2})
> false

However, this will work because there is only one instance of {"b": 2}:

var a = {"a": 1}, b = {"b": 2};
_.includes([a, b], b);
> true

On the other hand, the where(deprecated in v4) and find methods compare objects by their properties, so they don't require reference equality. As an alternative to includes, you might want to try some (also aliased as any):

_.some([{"a": 1}, {"b": 2}], {"b": 2})
> true

support FragmentPagerAdapter holds reference to old fragments

Go / golang time.Now().UnixNano() convert to milliseconds?

Simple-read but precise solution would be:

func nowAsUnixMilliseconds(){
    return time.Now().Round(time.Millisecond).UnixNano() / 1e6
}

This function:

  1. Correctly rounds the value to the nearest millisecond (compare with integer division: it just discards decimal part of the resulting value);
  2. Does not dive into Go-specifics of time.Duration coercion — since it uses a numerical constant that represents absolute millisecond/nanosecond divider.

P.S. I've run benchmarks with constant and composite dividers, they showed almost no difference, so feel free to use more readable or more language-strict solution.

Interop type cannot be embedded

I had same problem in VB.NET 2013 with Office 2007, and this solved it:

C# : Converting Base Class to Child Class

You can't downcast. If the parent object is created, it cannot be cast to the child.

One suggested workaround would be to Create an interface which the parent implements. Have the child override functionality if needed or just expose the parents functionality. Change the cast to be an interface and do the operations.

Edit: May be could also check if the object is a SkyfilterClient using is keyword

   if(networkClient is SkyfilterClient)
   {

   }

Ruby: Can I write multi-line string with no concatenation?

There are pieces to this answer that helped me get what I needed (easy multi-line concatenation WITHOUT extra whitespace), but since none of the actual answers had it, I'm compiling them here:

str = 'this is a multi-line string'\
  ' using implicit concatenation'\
  ' to prevent spare \n\'s'

=> "this is a multi-line string using implicit concatenation to eliminate spare
\\n's"

As a bonus, here's a version using funny HEREDOC syntax (via this link):

p <<END_SQL.gsub(/\s+/, " ").strip
SELECT * FROM     users
         ORDER BY users.id DESC
END_SQL
# >> "SELECT * FROM users ORDER BY users.id DESC"

The latter would mostly be for situations that required more flexibility in the processing. I personally don't like it, it puts the processing in a weird place w.r.t. the string (i.e., in front of it, but using instance methods that usually come afterward), but it's there. Note that if you are indenting the last END_SQL identifier (which is common, since this is probably inside a function or module), you will need to use the hyphenated syntax (that is, p <<-END_SQL instead of p <<END_SQL). Otherwise, the indenting whitespace causes the identifier to be interpreted as a continuation of the string.

This doesn't save much typing, but it looks nicer than using + signs, to me.

Also (I say in an edit, several years later), if you're using Ruby 2.3+, the operator <<~ is also available, which removes extra indentation from the final string. You should be able to remove the .gsub invocation, in that case (although it might depend on both the starting indentation and your final needs).

EDIT: Adding one more:

p %{
SELECT * FROM     users
         ORDER BY users.id DESC
}.gsub(/\s+/, " ").strip
# >> "SELECT * FROM users ORDER BY users.id DESC"

How to make EditText not editable through XML in Android?

I have faced same problem but after observation I found that android:editable="false" is only working when inputtype (android:inputType="ANY_VALUE") is not given in the Edittext.

Remove inputType from EditText and use editable = false, its working fine.

How do I find all of the symlinks in a directory tree?

One command, no pipes

find . -type l -ls

Explanation: find from the current directory . onwards all references of -type link and list -ls those in detail. Plain and simple...

Expanding upon this answer, here are a couple more symbolic link related find commands:

Find symbolic links to a specific target

find . -lname link_target

Note that link_target is a pattern that may contain wildcard characters.

Find broken symbolic links

find -L . -type l -ls

The -L option instructs find to follow symbolic links, unless when broken.

Find & replace broken symbolic links

find -L . -type l -delete -exec ln -s new_target {} \;

MySQL foreign key constraints, cascade delete

I think (I'm not certain) that foreign key constraints won't do precisely what you want given your table design. Perhaps the best thing to do is to define a stored procedure that will delete a category the way you want, and then call that procedure whenever you want to delete a category.

CREATE PROCEDURE `DeleteCategory` (IN category_ID INT)
LANGUAGE SQL
NOT DETERMINISTIC
MODIFIES SQL DATA
SQL SECURITY DEFINER
BEGIN

DELETE FROM
    `products`
WHERE
    `id` IN (
        SELECT `products_id`
        FROM `categories_products`
        WHERE `categories_id` = category_ID
    )
;

DELETE FROM `categories`
WHERE `id` = category_ID;

END

You also need to add the following foreign key constraints to the linking table:

ALTER TABLE `categories_products` ADD
    CONSTRAINT `Constr_categoriesproducts_categories_fk`
    FOREIGN KEY `categories_fk` (`categories_id`) REFERENCES `categories` (`id`)
    ON DELETE CASCADE ON UPDATE CASCADE,
    CONSTRAINT `Constr_categoriesproducts_products_fk`
    FOREIGN KEY `products_fk` (`products_id`) REFERENCES `products` (`id`)
    ON DELETE CASCADE ON UPDATE CASCADE

The CONSTRAINT clause can, of course, also appear in the CREATE TABLE statement.

Having created these schema objects, you can delete a category and get the behaviour you want by issuing CALL DeleteCategory(category_ID) (where category_ID is the category to be deleted), and it will behave how you want. But don't issue a normal DELETE FROM query, unless you want more standard behaviour (i.e. delete from the linking table only, and leave the products table alone).

The first query will only return results from the 17th, or midnight on the 18th.

where check_in >= CONVERT(datetime,'2013-10-17')
and check_in< CONVERT(datetime,'2013-10-19')

Compiling/Executing a C# Source File in Command Prompt

I have written a batch file CompileCS.cmd which allows to compile (and optionally run) a C# file, you can find the complete answer including the batch program 'CompileCS' here.

Its usage is simple:

CompileCS /run GetDotNetVersion.cs[arg1] ... [arg9]

will compile and run GetDotNetVersion.cs - if you just want to compile it, omit the /run parameter.

The console application GetDotNetVersion.cs is taken from this answer.

How do you read from stdin?

The problem I have with solution

import sys

for line in sys.stdin:
    print(line)

is that if you don't pass any data to stdin, it will block forever. That's why I love this answer: check if there is some data on stdin first, and then read it. This is what I ended up doing:

import sys
import select

# select(files to read from, files to write to, magic, timeout)
# timeout=0.0 is essential b/c we want to know the asnwer right away
if select.select([sys.stdin], [], [], 0.0)[0]:
    help_file_fragment = sys.stdin.read()
else:
    print("No data passed to stdin", file=sys.stderr)
    sys.exit(2)

Input type=password, don't let browser remember the password

I've found the following works on Firefox and Chrome.

<form ... > <!-- more stuff -->
<input name="person" type="text" size=30 value="">
<input name="mypswd" type="password" size=6 value="" autocomplete="off">
<input name="userid" type="text" value="security" style="display:none">
<input name="passwd" type="password" value="faker" style="display:none">
<!-- more stuff --> </form>

All of these are within the forms section. "person" and "mypswd" are what you want, but the browser will save "userid" and "passwd" once, and never again since they don't change. You could eliminate the "person" field if you don't really need it. In that case, all you want is the "mypswd" field, which could change in some way known to the user of your web-page.

How do I escape the wildcard/asterisk character in bash?

I'll add a bit to this old thread.

Usually you would use

$ echo "$FOO"

However, I've had problems even with this syntax. Consider the following script.

#!/bin/bash
curl_opts="-s --noproxy * -O"
curl $curl_opts "$1"

The * needs to be passed verbatim to curl, but the same problems will arise. The above example won't work (it will expand to filenames in the current directory) and neither will \*. You also can't quote $curl_opts because it will be recognized as a single (invalid) option to curl.

curl: option -s --noproxy * -O: is unknown
curl: try 'curl --help' or 'curl --manual' for more information

Therefore I would recommend the use of the bash variable $GLOBIGNORE to prevent filename expansion altogether if applied to the global pattern, or use the set -f built-in flag.

#!/bin/bash
GLOBIGNORE="*"
curl_opts="-s --noproxy * -O"
curl $curl_opts "$1"  ## no filename expansion

Applying to your original example:

me$ FOO="BAR * BAR"

me$ echo $FOO
BAR file1 file2 file3 file4 BAR

me$ set -f
me$ echo $FOO
BAR * BAR

me$ set +f
me$ GLOBIGNORE=*
me$ echo $FOO
BAR * BAR

Can you use @Autowired with static fields?

Disclaimer This is by no means standard and there could very well be a better spring way of doing this. None of the above answers address the issues of wiring a public static field.

I wanted to accomplish three things.

  1. Use spring to "Autowire" (Im using @Value)
  2. Expose a public static value
  3. Prevent modification

My object looks like this

private static String BRANCH = "testBranch";

@Value("${content.client.branch}")
public void finalSetBranch(String branch) {
    BRANCH = branch;
}

public static String BRANCH() {
    return BRANCH;
}

We have checked off 1 & 2 already now how do we prevent calls to the setter, since we cannot hide it.

@Component
@Aspect
public class FinalAutowiredHelper {

@Before("finalMethods()")
public void beforeFinal(JoinPoint joinPoint) {
    throw new FinalAutowiredHelper().new ModifySudoFinalError("");
}

@Pointcut("execution(* com.free.content.client..*.finalSetBranch(..))")
public void finalMethods() {}

public class ModifySudoFinalError extends Error {
    private String msg;

    public ModifySudoFinalError(String msg) {
        this.msg = msg;
    }

    @Override
    public String getMessage() {
        return "Attempted modification of a final property: " + msg;
    }
}

This aspect will wrap all methods beginning with final and throw an error if they are called.

I dont think this is particularly useful, but if you are ocd and like to keep you peas and carrots separated this is one way to do it safely.

Important Spring does not call your aspects when it calls a function. Made this easier, to bad I worked out the logic before figuring that out.

There is no ViewData item of type 'IEnumerable<SelectListItem>' that has the key country

In my case, the error occurred because I had not initialized the select list in the controller like this:

viewModel.MySelectList = new List<System.Web.Mvc.SelectListItem>();

As none of the existing answers made this clear to me, I post this. Perhaps it helps anybody.

Excel VBA code to copy a specific string to clipboard

If the url is in a cell in your workbook, you can simply copy the value from that cell:

Private Sub CommandButton1_Click()
    Sheets("Sheet1").Range("A1").Copy
End Sub

(Add a button by using the developer tab. Customize the ribbon if it isn't visible.)

If the url isn't in the workbook, you can use the Windows API. The code that follows can be found here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/210216

After you've added the API calls below, change the code behind the button to copy to the clipboard:

Private Sub CommandButton1_Click()
    ClipBoard_SetData ("http:\\stackoverflow.com")
End Sub

How do I build a graphical user interface in C++?

Given the comment of "say Windows XP as an example", then your options are:

  • Interact directly with the operating system via its API, which for Microsoft Windows is surprise surprise call Windows API. The definitive reference for the WinAPI is Microsoft's MSDN website. A popular online beginner tutorial for that is theForger's Win32 API Programming Tutorial. The classic book for that is Charles Petzold's Programming Windows, 5th Edition.

  • Use a platform (both in terms of OS and compiler) specific library such as MFC, which wraps the WinAPI into C++ class. The reference for that is again MSDN. A classic book for that is Jeff Prosise's Programming Windows with MFC, 2nd Edition. If you are using say CodeGear C++ Builder, then the option here is VCL.

  • Use a cross platform library such as GTK+ (C++ wrapper: gtkmm), Qt, wxWidgets, or FLTK that wrap the specific OS's API. The advantages with these are that in general, your program could been compiled for different OS without having to change the source codes. As have already been mentioned, they each have its own strengths and weaknesses. One consideration when selecting which one to use is its license. For the examples given, GTK+ & gtkmm is license under LGPL, Qt is under various licenses including proprietary option, wxWidgets is under its own wxWindows Licence (with a rename to wxWidgets Licence), and FLTK is under LGPL with exception. For reference, tutorial, and or books, refer to each one's website for details.

How to emulate a BEFORE INSERT trigger in T-SQL / SQL Server for super/subtype (Inheritance) entities?

Sometimes a BEFORE trigger can be replaced with an AFTER one, but this doesn't appear to be the case in your situation, for you clearly need to provide a value before the insert takes place. So, for that purpose, the closest functionality would seem to be the INSTEAD OF trigger one, as @marc_s has suggested in his comment.

Note, however, that, as the names of these two trigger types suggest, there's a fundamental difference between a BEFORE trigger and an INSTEAD OF one. While in both cases the trigger is executed at the time when the action determined by the statement that's invoked the trigger hasn't taken place, in case of the INSTEAD OF trigger the action is never supposed to take place at all. The real action that you need to be done must be done by the trigger itself. This is very unlike the BEFORE trigger functionality, where the statement is always due to execute, unless, of course, you explicitly roll it back.

But there's one other issue to address actually. As your Oracle script reveals, the trigger you need to convert uses another feature unsupported by SQL Server, which is that of FOR EACH ROW. There are no per-row triggers in SQL Server either, only per-statement ones. That means that you need to always keep in mind that the inserted data are a row set, not just a single row. That adds more complexity, although that'll probably conclude the list of things you need to account for.

So, it's really two things to solve then:

  • replace the BEFORE functionality;

  • replace the FOR EACH ROW functionality.

My attempt at solving these is below:

CREATE TRIGGER sub_trg
ON sub1
INSTEAD OF INSERT
AS
BEGIN
  DECLARE @new_super TABLE (
    super_id int
  );
  INSERT INTO super (subtype_discriminator)
  OUTPUT INSERTED.super_id INTO @new_super (super_id)
  SELECT 'SUB1' FROM INSERTED;

  INSERT INTO sub (super_id)
  SELECT super_id FROM @new_super;
END;

This is how the above works:

  1. The same number of rows as being inserted into sub1 is first added to super. The generated super_id values are stored in a temporary storage (a table variable called @new_super).

  2. The newly inserted super_ids are now inserted into sub1.

Nothing too difficult really, but the above will only work if you have no other columns in sub1 than those you've specified in your question. If there are other columns, the above trigger will need to be a bit more complex.

The problem is to assign the new super_ids to every inserted row individually. One way to implement the mapping could be like below:

CREATE TRIGGER sub_trg
ON sub1
INSTEAD OF INSERT
AS
BEGIN
  DECLARE @new_super TABLE (
    rownum   int IDENTITY (1, 1),
    super_id int
  );
  INSERT INTO super (subtype_discriminator)
  OUTPUT INSERTED.super_id INTO @new_super (super_id)
  SELECT 'SUB1' FROM INSERTED;

  WITH enumerated AS (
    SELECT *, ROW_NUMBER() OVER (ORDER BY (SELECT 1)) AS rownum
    FROM inserted
  )
  INSERT INTO sub1 (super_id, other columns)
  SELECT n.super_id, i.other columns
  FROM enumerated AS i
  INNER JOIN @new_super AS n
  ON i.rownum = n.rownum;
END;

As you can see, an IDENTIY(1,1) column is added to @new_user, so the temporarily inserted super_id values will additionally be enumerated starting from 1. To provide the mapping between the new super_ids and the new data rows, the ROW_NUMBER function is used to enumerate the INSERTED rows as well. As a result, every row in the INSERTED set can now be linked to a single super_id and thus complemented to a full data row to be inserted into sub1.

Note that the order in which the new super_ids are inserted may not match the order in which they are assigned. I considered that a no-issue. All the new super rows generated are identical save for the IDs. So, all you need here is just to take one new super_id per new sub1 row.

If, however, the logic of inserting into super is more complex and for some reason you need to remember precisely which new super_id has been generated for which new sub row, you'll probably want to consider the mapping method discussed in this Stack Overflow question:

Reloading .env variables without restarting server (Laravel 5, shared hosting)

A short solution:

use Dotenv;

with(new Dotenv(app()->environmentPath(), app()->environmentFile()))->overload();
with(new LoadConfiguration())->bootstrap(app());

In my case I needed to re-establish database connection after altering .env programmatically, but it didn't work , If you get into this trouble try this

app('db')->purge($connection->getName());

after reloading .env , that's because Laravel App could have accessed the default connection before and the \Illuminate\Database\DatabaseManager needs to re-read config parameters.

Comparing arrays in JUnit assertions, concise built-in way?

I know the question is for JUnit4, but if you happen to be stuck at JUnit3, you could create a short utility function like that:

private void assertArrayEquals(Object[] esperado, Object[] real) {
    assertEquals(Arrays.asList(esperado), Arrays.asList(real));
}

In JUnit3, this is better than directly comparing the arrays, since it will detail exactly which elements are different.

Increment counter with loop

what led me to this page is that I set within a page then the inside of an included page I did the increment

and here is the problem

so to solve such a problem, simply use scope="request" when you declare the variable or the increment

//when you set the variale add scope="request"
<c:set var="nFilters" value="${0}" scope="request"/>
//the increment, it can be happened inside an included page
<c:set var="nFilters" value="${nFilters + 1}"  scope="request" />

hope this saves your time

/** and /* in Java Comments

Reading the section 3.7 of JLS well explain all you need to know about comments in Java.

There are two kinds of comments:

  • /* text */

A traditional comment: all the text from the ASCII characters /* to the ASCII characters */ is ignored (as in C and C++).

  • //text

An end-of-line comment: all the text from the ASCII characters // to the end of the line is ignored (as in C++).

About your question,

The first one

/**
 *
 */

is used to declare Javadoc Technology.

Javadoc is a tool that parses the declarations and documentation comments in a set of source files and produces a set of HTML pages describing the classes, interfaces, constructors, methods, and fields. You can use a Javadoc doclet to customize Javadoc output. A doclet is a program written with the Doclet API that specifies the content and format of the output to be generated by the tool. You can write a doclet to generate any kind of text file output, such as HTML, SGML, XML, RTF, and MIF. Oracle provides a standard doclet for generating HTML-format API documentation. Doclets can also be used to perform special tasks not related to producing API documentation.

For more information on Doclet refer to the API.

The second one, as explained clearly in JLS, will ignore all the text between /* and */ thus is used to create multiline comments.

Some other things you might want to know about comments in Java

  • Comments do not nest.
  • /* and */ have no special meaning in comments that begin with //.
  • // has no special meaning in comments that begin with /* or /**.
  • The lexical grammar implies that comments do not occur within character literals (§3.10.4) or string literals (§3.10.5).

Thus, the following text is a single complete comment:

/* this comment /* // /** ends here: */

Removing the remembered login and password list in SQL Server Management Studio

Pythonic way of checking if a condition holds for any element of a list

Python has a built in any() function for exactly this purpose.

Why is it OK to return a 'vector' from a function?

This is actually a failure of design. You shouldn't be using a return value for anything not a primitive for anything that is not relatively trivial.

The ideal solution should be implemented through a return parameter with a decision on reference/pointer and the proper use of a "const\'y\'ness" as a descriptor.

On top of this, you should realise that the label on an array in C and C++ is effectively a pointer and its subscription are effectively an offset or an addition symbol.

So the label or ptr array_ptr === array label thus returning foo[offset] is really saying return element at memory pointer location foo + offset of type return type.

Find files with size in Unix

Find can be used to print out the file-size in bytes with %s as a printf. %h/%f prints the directory prefix and filename respectively. \n forces a newline.

Example

find . -size +10000k -printf "%h/%f,%s\n"

Output

./DOTT/extract/DOTT/TENTACLE.001,11358470
./DOTT/Day Of The Tentacle.nrg,297308316
./DOTT/foo.iso,297001116

Mixing C# & VB In The Same Project

Why don't you just compile your VB code into a library(.dll).Reference it later from your code and that's it. Managed dlls contain MSIL to which both c# and vb are compiled.

How to use android emulator for testing bluetooth application?

Download Androidx86 from this This is an iso file, so you'd
need something like VMWare or VirtualBox to run it When creating the virtual machine, you need to set the type of guest OS as Linux instead of Other.

After creating the virtual machine set the network adapter to 'Bridged'. · Start the VM and select 'Live CD VESA' at boot.

Now you need to find out the IP of this VM. Go to terminal in VM (use Alt+F1 & Alt+F7 to toggle) and use the netcfg command to find this.

Now you need open a command prompt and go to your android install folder (on host). This is usually C:\Program Files\Android\android-sdk\platform-tools>.

Type adb connect IP_ADDRESS. There done! Now you need to add Bluetooth. Plug in your USB Bluetooth dongle/Bluetooth device.

In VirtualBox screen, go to Devices>USB devices. Select your dongle.

Done! now your Android VM has Bluetooth. Try powering on Bluetooth and discovering/paring with other devices.

Now all that remains is to go to Eclipse and run your program. The Android AVD manager should show the VM as a device on the list.

Alternatively, Under settings of the virtual machine, Goto serialports -> Port 1 check Enable serial port select a port number then select port mode as disconnected click ok. now, start virtual machine. Under Devices -> USB Devices -> you can find your laptop bluetooth listed. You can simply check the option and start testing the android bluetooth application .

MAC addresses in JavaScript

No you cannot get the MAC address in JavaScript, mainly because the MAC address uniquely identifies the running computer so it would be a security vulnerability.

Now if all you need is a unique identifier, I suggest you create one yourself using some cryptographic algorithm and store it in a cookie.

If you really need to know the MAC address of the computer AND you are developing for internal applications, then I suggest you use an external component to do that: ActiveX for IE, XPCOM for Firefox (installed as an extension).

AngularJS ngClass conditional

There is a simple method which you could use with html class attribute and shorthand if/else. No need to make it so complex. Just use following method.

<div class="{{expression == true ? 'class_if_expression_true' : 'class_if_expression_false' }}">Your Content</div>

Executing set of SQL queries using batch file?

Save the commands in a .SQL file, ex: ClearTables.sql, say in your C:\temp folder.

Contents of C:\Temp\ClearTables.sql

Delete from TableA;
Delete from TableB;
Delete from TableC;
Delete from TableD;
Delete from TableE;

Then use sqlcmd to execute it as follows. Since you said the database is remote, use the following syntax (after updating for your server and database instance name).

sqlcmd -S <ComputerName>\<InstanceName> -i C:\Temp\ClearTables.sql

For example, if your remote computer name is SQLSVRBOSTON1 and Database instance name is MyDB1, then the command would be.

sqlcmd -E -S SQLSVRBOSTON1\MyDB1 -i C:\Temp\ClearTables.sql

Also note that -E specifies default authentication. If you have a user name and password to connect, use -U and -P switches.

You will execute all this by opening a CMD command window.

Using a Batch File.

If you want to save it in a batch file and double-click to run it, do it as follows.

Create, and save the ClearTables.bat like so.

echo off
sqlcmd -E -S SQLSVRBOSTON1\MyDB1 -i C:\Temp\ClearTables.sql
set /p delExit=Press the ENTER key to exit...:

Then double-click it to run it. It will execute the commands and wait until you press a key to exit, so you can see the command output.

How to get child process from parent process

For the case when the process tree of interest has more than 2 levels (e.g. Chromium spawns 4-level deep process tree), pgrep isn't of much use. As others have mentioned above, procfs files contain all the information about processes and one just needs to read them. I built a CLI tool called Procpath which does exactly this. It reads all /proc/N/stat files, represents the contents as a JSON tree and expose it to JSONPath queries.

To get all descendant process' comma-separated PIDs of a non-root process (for the root it's ..stat.pid) it's:

$ procpath query -d, "..children[?(@.stat.pid == 24243)]..pid"
24243,24259,24284,24289,24260,24262,24333,24337,24439,24570,24592,24606,...

How do I position one image on top of another in HTML?

@buti-oxa: Not to be pedantic, but your code is invalid. The HTML width and height attributes do not allow for units; you're likely thinking of the CSS width: and height: properties. You should also provide a content-type (text/css; see Espo's code) with the <style> tag.

<style type="text/css">
.containerdiv { float: left; position: relative; }
.cornerimage { position: absolute; top: 0; right: 0; }
</style>

<div class="containerdiv">
    <img border="0" src="http://www.gravatar.com/avatar/" alt="" width="100" height="100">
    <img class="cornerimage" border="0" src="http://www.gravatar.com/avatar/" alt="" width="40" height="40">
<div>

Leaving px; in the width and height attributes might cause a rendering engine to balk.

php execute a background process

You might try a queuing system like Resque. You then can generate a job, that processes the information and quite fast return with the "processing" image. With this approach you won't know when it is finished though.

This solution is intended for larger scale applications, where you don't want your front machines to do the heavy lifting, so they can process user requests. Therefore it might or might not work with physical data like files and folders, but for processing more complicated logic or other asynchronous tasks (ie new registrations mails) it is nice to have and very scalable.

Find full path of the Python interpreter?

Just noting a different way of questionable usefulness, using os.environ:

import os
python_executable_path = os.environ['_']

e.g.

$ python -c "import os; print(os.environ['_'])"
/usr/bin/python

Making an image act like a button

It sounds like you want an image button:

<input type="image" src="logg.png" name="saveForm" class="btTxt submit" id="saveForm" />

Alternatively, you can use CSS to make the existing submit button use your image as its background.

In any case, you don't want a separate <img /> element on the page.

How to resolve merge conflicts in Git repository?

I follow the below process.

The process to fix merge conflict:

  1. First, pull the latest from the destination branch to which you want to merge git pull origin develop

  2. As you get the latest from the destination, now resolve the conflict manually in IDE by deleting those extra characters.

  3. Do a git add to add these edited files to the git queue so that it can be commit and push to the same branch you are working on.

  4. As git add is done, do a git commit to commit the changes.

  5. Now push the changes to your working branch by git push origin HEAD

This is it and you will see it resolved in your pull request if you are using Bitbucket or GitHub.

Check last modified date of file in C#

Just use File.GetLastWriteTime. There's a sample on that page showing how to use it.

Getting HTTP headers with Node.js

Using the excellent request module:

var request = require('request');
  request("http://stackoverflow.com", {method: 'HEAD'}, function (err, res, body){
  console.log(res.headers);
});

You can change the method to GET if you wish, but using HEAD will save you from getting the entire response body if you only wish to look at the headers.

Regular expression: zero or more occurrences of optional character /

/*

If your delimiters are slash-based, escape it:

\/*

Powershell import-module doesn't find modules

I had this problem, but only in Visual Studio Code, not in ISE. Turns out I was using an x86 session in VSCode. I displayed the PowerShell Session Menu and switched to the x64 session, and all the modules began working without full paths. I am using Version 1.17.2, architecture x64 of VSCode. My modules were stored in the C:\Windows\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\Modules directory.

Django - "no module named django.core.management"

Most probably in your manage.py the first line starts with !/usr/bin/python which means you are using the system global python rather than the one in your virtual environment.

so replace

/usr/bin/python

with

~/projectpath/venv/bin/python

and you should be good.

How to restore a SQL Server 2012 database to SQL Server 2008 R2?

How to know when a web page was last updated?

The last changed time comes with the assumption that the web server provides accurate information. Dynamically generated pages will likely return the time the page was viewed. However, static pages are expected to reflect actual file modification time.

This is propagated through the HTTP header Last-Modified. The Javascript trick by AZIRAR is clever and will display this value. Also, in Firefox going to Tools->Page Info will also display in the "Modified" field.

How can I check if a directory exists?

Use the following code to check if a folder exists. It works on both Windows & Linux platforms.

MVC controller : get JSON object from HTTP body?

use Request.Form to get the Data

Controller:

    [HttpPost]
    public ActionResult Index(int? id)

<input type="button" value="post" id="btnPost" />

<script type="text/javascript">
    $(function () {
        var test = {
            number: 456,
            name: "Ryu"
        }
        $("#btnPost").click(function () {
            $.post('@Url.Action("Index", "Home")', JSON.stringify(test));
        });
    });
</script>

and write Request.Form[0] or Request.Params[0] in controller can get the data.

I don't write <form> tag in view.

CGContextDrawImage draws image upside down when passed UIImage.CGImage

Best of both worlds, use UIImage's drawAtPoint: or drawInRect: while still specifying your custom context:

UIGraphicsPopContext();

Also you avoid modifying your context with CGContextTranslateCTM or CGContextScaleCTM which the second answer does.

Efficient way to remove ALL whitespace from String?

Just an alternative because it looks quite nice :) - NOTE: Henks answer is the quickest of these.

input.ToCharArray()
 .Where(c => !Char.IsWhiteSpace(c))
 .Select(c => c.ToString())
 .Aggregate((a, b) => a + b);

Testing 1,000,000 loops on "This is a simple Test"

This method = 1.74 seconds
Regex = 2.58 seconds
new String (Henks) = 0.82 seconds

How do I display a text file content in CMD?

You can use the more command. For example:

more filename.txt

Take a look at GNU utilities for Win32 or download it:

Check if current directory is a Git repository

Or you could do this:

inside_git_repo="$(git rev-parse --is-inside-work-tree 2>/dev/null)"

if [ "$inside_git_repo" ]; then
  echo "inside git repo"
else
  echo "not in git repo"

Rails: Adding an index after adding column

If you need to create a user_id then it would be a reasonable assumption that you are referencing a user table. In which case the migration shall be:

rails generate migration AddUserRefToProducts user:references

This command will generate the following migration:

class AddUserRefToProducts < ActiveRecord::Migration
  def change
    add_reference :user, :product, index: true
  end
end

After running rake db:migrate both a user_id column and an index will be added to the products table.

In case you just need to add an index to an existing column, e.g. name of a user table, the following technique may be helpful:

rails generate migration AddIndexToUsers name:string:index will generate the following migration:

class AddIndexToUsers < ActiveRecord::Migration
  def change
    add_column :users, :name, :string
    add_index :users, :name
  end
end

Delete add_column line and run the migration.

In the case described you could have issued rails generate migration AddIndexIdToTable index_id:integer:index command and then delete add_column line from the generated migration. But I'd rather recommended to undo the initial migration and add reference instead:

rails generate migration RemoveUserIdFromProducts user_id:integer
rails generate migration AddUserRefToProducts user:references

Java: recommended solution for deep cloning/copying an instance

I'd recommend the DIY way which, combined with a good hashCode() and equals() method should be easy to proof in a unit test.

Using Selenium Web Driver to retrieve value of a HTML input

As was mentioned before, you could do something like that

public String getVal(WebElement webElement) {
    JavascriptExecutor e = (JavascriptExecutor) driver;
    return (String) e.executeScript(String.format("return $('#%s').val();", webElement.getAttribute("id")));
}

But as you can see, your element must have an id attribute, and also, jquery on your page.

How to check if Thread finished execution

Use Thread.Join(TimeSpan.Zero) It will not block the caller and returns a value indicating whether the thread has completed its work. By the way, that is the standard way of testing all WaitHandle classes as well.

How do I connect C# with Postgres?

You want the NPGSQL library. Your only other alternative is ODBC.

Newtonsoft JSON Deserialize

You can implement a class that holds the fields you have in your JSON

class MyData
{
    public string t;
    public bool a;
    public object[] data;
    public string[][] type;
}

and then use the generic version of DeserializeObject:

MyData tmp = JsonConvert.DeserializeObject<MyData>(json);
foreach (string typeStr in tmp.type[0])
{
    // Do something with typeStr
}

ListView with OnItemClickListener

Just insert the line into RatingBar:

android:isIndicator="true"

In XML the ratingbar look like this.

<RatingBar
    android:id="@+id/ratingBar"
    android:layout_width="wrap_content"
    android:layout_height="wrap_content"
    android:layout_marginLeft="6dp"
    android:isIndicator="true"
    android:clickable="false"
    android:focusable="false"
    android:focusableInTouchMode="false" />

Check if key exists in JSON object using jQuery

if(typeof theObject['key'] != 'undefined'){
     //key exists, do stuff
}

//or

if(typeof theObject.key != 'undefined'){
    //object exists, do stuff
}

I'm writing here because no one seems to give the right answer..

I know it's old...

Somebody might question the same thing..

What is this CSS selector? [class*="span"]

.show-grid [class*="span"]

It's a CSS selector that selects all elements with the class show-grid that has a child element whose class contains the name span.

How do I concatenate a boolean to a string in Python?

answer = True
myvar = "the answer is " + str(answer)

Python does not do implicit casting, as implicit casting can mask critical logic errors. Just cast answer to a string itself to get its string representation ("True"), or use string formatting like so:

myvar = "the answer is %s" % answer

Note that answer must be set to True (capitalization is important).

Retrieving a Foreign Key value with django-rest-framework serializers

Simple solution source='category.name' where category is foreign key and .name it's attribute.

from rest_framework.serializers import ModelSerializer, ReadOnlyField
from my_app.models import Item

class ItemSerializer(ModelSerializer):
    category_name = ReadOnlyField(source='category.name')

    class Meta:
        model = Item
        fields = "__all__"

Loop through the rows of a particular DataTable

You want to loop on the .Rows, and access the column for the row like q("column")

Just:

        For Each q In dtDataTable.Rows
            strDetail = q("Detail")
        Next

Also make sure to check msdn doc for any class you are using + use intellisense

What is a mixin, and why are they useful?

I'd advise against mix-ins in new Python code, if you can find any other way around it (such as composition-instead-of-inheritance, or just monkey-patching methods into your own classes) that isn't much more effort.

In old-style classes you could use mix-ins as a way of grabbing a few methods from another class. But in the new-style world everything, even the mix-in, inherits from object. That means that any use of multiple inheritance naturally introduces MRO issues.

There are ways to make multiple-inheritance MRO work in Python, most notably the super() function, but it means you have to do your whole class hierarchy using super(), and it's considerably more difficult to understand the flow of control.

npm start error with create-react-app

Author of Create React App checking in.

You absolutely should not be installing react-scripts globally.
You also don't need ./node_modules/react-scripts/bin/ in package.json as this answer implies.

If you see this:

npm ERR! [email protected] start: `react-scripts start`
npm ERR! spawn ENOENT

It just means something went wrong when dependencies were installed the first time.

I suggest doing these three steps:

  1. npm install -g npm@latest to update npm because it is sometimes buggy.
  2. rm -rf node_modules to remove the existing modules.
  3. npm install to re-install the project dependencies.

This should fix the problem.
If it doesn't, please file an issue with a link to your project and versions of Node and npm.

Using logging in multiple modules

A simple way of using one instance of logging library in multiple modules for me was following solution:

base_logger.py

import logging

logger = logging
logger.basicConfig(format='%(asctime)s - %(message)s', level=logging.INFO)

Other files

from base_logger import logger

if __name__ == '__main__':
    logger.info("This is an info message")

mongodb service is not starting up

What helped me diagnose the issue was to run mongod and specify the /etc/mondgob.conf config file:

mongod --config /etc/mongodb.conf

That revealed that some options in /etc/mongdb.conf were "Unrecognized". I had commented out both options under security: and left alone only security: on one line, which caused the service to not start. This looks like a bug.

security:
#  authorization: enabled
#  keyFile: /etc/ssl/mongo-keyfile

^^ error

#security:
#  authorization: enabled
#  keyFile: /etc/ssl/mongo-keyfile

^^ correctly commented.

Unsupported method: BaseConfig.getApplicationIdSuffix()

For Android Studio 3 I need to update two files to fix the error:--

1. app/build.gradle

    repositories {
        jcenter()
        mavenCentral()
        maven {
            url 'https://maven.google.com/'
            name 'Google'
        }
    }

    dependencies {
        classpath 'com.android.tools.build:gradle:3.0.1'
    }
}

2. app/gradle/wrapper/gradle-wrapper.properties

Create a function with optional call variables

I don't think your question is very clear, this code assumes that if you're going to include the -domain parameter, it's always 'named' (i.e. dostuff computername arg2 -domain domain); this also makes the computername parameter mandatory.

Function DoStuff(){
    param(
        [Parameter(Mandatory=$true)][string]$computername,
        [Parameter(Mandatory=$false)][string]$arg2,
        [Parameter(Mandatory=$false)][string]$domain
    )
    if(!($domain)){
        $domain = 'domain1'
    }
    write-host $domain
    if($arg2){
        write-host "arg2 present... executing script block"
    }
    else{
        write-host "arg2 missing... exiting or whatever"
    }
}

How to suppress "unused parameter" warnings in C?

In gcc, you can label the parameter with the unused attribute.

This attribute, attached to a variable, means that the variable is meant to be possibly unused. GCC will not produce a warning for this variable.

In practice this is accomplished by putting __attribute__ ((unused)) just before the parameter. For example:

void foo(workerid_t workerId) { }

becomes

void foo(__attribute__((unused)) workerid_t workerId) { }

How can I hide the Adobe Reader toolbar when displaying a PDF in the .NET WebBrowser control?

It appears the default setting for Adobe Reader X is for the toolbars not to be shown by default unless they are explicitly turned on by the user. And even when I turn them back on during a session, they don't show up automatically next time. As such, I suspect you have a preference set contrary to the default.

The state you desire, with the top and left toolbars not shown, is called "Read Mode". If you right-click on the document itself, and then click "Page Display Preferences" in the context menu that is shown, you'll be presented with the Adobe Reader Preferences dialog. (This is the same dialog you can access by opening the Adobe Reader application, and selecting "Preferences" from the "Edit" menu.) In the list shown in the left-hand column of the Preferences dialog, select "Internet". Finally, on the right, ensure that you have the "Display in Read Mode by default" box checked:

   Adobe Reader Preferences dialog

You can also turn off the toolbars temporarily by clicking the button at the right of the top toolbar that depicts arrows pointing to opposing corners:

   Adobe Reader Read Mode toolbar button

Finally, if you have "Display in Read Mode by default" turned off, but want to instruct the page you're loading not to display the toolbars (i.e., override the user's current preferences), you can append the following to the URL:

#toolbar=0&navpanes=0

So, for example, the following code will disable both the top toolbar (called "toolbar") and the left-hand toolbar (called "navpane"). However, if the user knows the keyboard combination (F8, and perhaps other methods as well), they will still be able to turn them back on.

string url = @"http://www.domain.com/file.pdf#toolbar=0&navpanes=0";
this._WebBrowser.Navigate(url);

You can read more about the parameters that are available for customizing the way PDF files open here on Adobe's developer website.
