PHP syntax is little different in case of concatenation from JavaScript  Instead of     plus a     period is used for string concatenation    lt  php   selectBox     lt select name  number  gt    for   i 1  i lt  100  i           selectBox      lt option value       i      gt      i     lt  option gt        lt --  Wrong  Replace   with        selectBox      lt option value       i      gt      i     lt  option gt        lt --  Correct  Here   is replaced      selectBox      lt  select gt        lt --  Wrong  Replace   with    selectBox      lt  select gt        lt --  Correct  Here   is replaced   echo  selectBox     gt

This is because PHP uses the period character   for string concatenation  not the plus character    Therefore to append to a string you want to use the    operator   for   i 1  i lt  100  i           selectBox      lt option value       i      gt      i     lt  option gt       selectBox      lt  select gt
