JInput is a Java API for accessing input controllers, originally intended for game controllers.

TypeScript: Property does not exist on type '{}'

Near the top of the file, you need to write var fadeDiv = ... instead of fadeDiv = ... so that the variable is actually declared.

The error "Property 'fadeDiv' does not exist on type '{}'." seems to be triggering on a line you haven't posted in your example (there is no access of a fadeDiv property anywhere in that snippet).

Find specific string in a text file with VBS script

Wow, after few attempts I finally figured out how to deal with my text edits in vbs. The code works perfectly, it gives me the result I was expecting. Maybe it's not the best way to do this, but it does its job. Here's the code:

Option Explicit

Dim StdOut: Set StdOut = WScript

Java logical operator short-circuiting

Short circuiting means the second operator will not be checked if the first operator decides the final outcome.

E.g. Expression is: True || False

In case of ||, all we need is one of the side to be True. So if the left hand side is true, there is no point in checking the right hand side, and hence that will not be checked at all.

Similarly, False && True

In case of &&, we need both sides to be True. So if the left hand side is False, there is no point in checking the right hand side, the answer has to be False. And hence that will not be checked at all.

Android ADB doesn't see device

On windows, you will need to install drivers for the device for adb to recognize it. To see if the drivers are installed, check the device manager. If there is any "unrecognized device" in the device manager, the drivers are not installed. You can usually get the adb drivers from the manufacturers.

How to run Selenium WebDriver test cases in Chrome

You can use the below code to run test cases in Chrome using Selenium WebDriver:

import java.io.IOException;
import org.openqa.selenium.WebDriver;
import org.openqa.selenium.chrome.ChromeDriver;

public class ChromeTest {

    /**
     * @param args
     * @throws InterruptedException
     * @throws IOException
     */
    public static void main(String[] args) throws InterruptedException, IOException {
        // Telling the system where to find the Chrome driver
        System.setProperty(
                "webdriver.chrome.driver",
                "E:/chromedriver_win32/chromedriver.exe");

        WebDriver webDriver = new ChromeDriver();

        // Open google.com
        webDriver.navigate().to("http://www.google.com");

        String html = webDriver.getPageSource();

        // Printing result here.
        System.out.println(html);

        webDriver.close();
        webDriver.quit();
    }
}

What are the "standard unambiguous date" formats for string-to-date conversion in R?

As a complement to @JoshuaUlrich answer, here is the definition of function as.Date.character:

as.Date.character
function (x, format = "", ...)
{
    charToDate <- function(x) {
        xx <- x[1L]
        if (is.na(xx)) {
            j <- 1L
            while (is.na(xx) && (j <- j + 1L) <= length(x)) xx <- x[j]
            if (is.na(xx))
                f <- "%Y-%m-%d"
        }
        if (is.na(xx) || !is.na(strptime(xx, f <- "%Y-%m-%d",
            tz = "GMT")) || !is.na(strptime(xx, f <- "%Y/%m/%d",
            tz = "GMT")))
            return(strptime(x, f))
        stop("character string is not in a standard unambiguous format")
    }
    res <- if (missing(format))
        charToDate(x)
    else strptime(x, format, tz = "GMT")
    as.Date(res)
}
<bytecode: 0x265b0ec>
<environment: namespace:base>

So basically if both strptime(x, format="%Y-%m-%d") and strptime(x, format="%Y/%m/%d") throws an NA it is considered ambiguous and if not unambiguous.

Evaluate empty or null JSTL c tags

This code is correct but if you entered a lot of space (' ') instead of null or empty string return false.

To correct this use regular expresion (this code below check if the variable is null or empty or blank the same as org.apache.commons.lang.StringUtils.isNotBlank) :

<%@ taglib uri="http://java.sun.com/jsp/jstl/functions" prefix="fn" %>
        <c:if test="${not empty description}">
            <c:set var="description" value="${fn:replace(description, ' ', '')}" />
            <c:if test="${not empty description}">
                  The description is not blank.
            </c:if>
        </c:if>

Compare a date string to datetime in SQL Server?

How to get the DATE portion of a DATETIME field in MS SQL Server:

One of the quickest and neatest ways to do this is using

DATEADD(dd, DATEDIFF( dd, 0, @DAY ), 0)

It avoids the CPU busting "convert the date into a string without the time and then converting it back again" logic.

It also does not expose the internal implementation that the "time portion is expressed as a fraction" of the date.

Get the date of the first day of the month

DATEADD(dd, DATEDIFF( dd, -1, GetDate() - DAY(GetDate()) ), 0)

Get the date rfom 1 year ago

DATEADD(m,-12,DATEADD(dd, DATEDIFF( dd, -1, GetDate() - DAY(GetDate()) ), 0))

How can I change the color of my prompt in zsh (different from normal text)?

To complement all of the above answers another convenient trick is to place the coloured prompt settings into a zsh function. There you may define local variables to alias longer commands, e.g. rc=$reset_color or define your own colour variables. Don't forget to place it into your .zshrc file and call the function you have defined:

# Coloured prompt
autoload -U colors && colors
function myprompt {
  local rc=$reset_color
  export PS1="%F{cyan}%n%{$rc%}@%F{green}%m%{$rc%}:%F{magenta}%~%{$rc%}%# "
}

Include of non-modular header inside framework module

You can set Allow Non-modular includes in Framework Modules in Build Settings for the affected target to YES. This is the build setting you need to edit:

Build Settings item you need to edit

NOTE: You should use this feature to uncover the underlying error, which I have found to be frequently caused by duplication of angle-bracketed global includes in files with some dependent relationship, i.e.:

#import <Foo/Bar.h> // referred to in two or more dependent files

If setting Allow Non-modular includes in Frame Modules to YES results in a set of "X is an ambiguous reference" errors or something of the sort, you should be able to track down the offending duplicate(s) and eliminate them. After you've cleaned up your code, set Allow Non-modular includes in Frame Modules back to NO.

Converting URL to String and back again

fileURLWithPath() is used to convert a plain file path (e.g. "/path/to/file") to an URL. Your urlString is a full URL string including the scheme, so you should use

let url = NSURL(string: urlstring)

to convert it back to NSURL. Example:

let urlstring = "file:///Users/Me/Desktop/Doc.txt"
let url = NSURL(string: urlstring)
println("the url = \(url!)")
// the url = file:///Users/Me/Desktop/Doc.txt

Is there a <meta> tag to turn off caching in all browsers?

It doesn't work in IE5, but that's not a big issue.

However, cacheing headers are unreliable in meta elements; for one, any web proxies between the site and the user will completely ignore them. You should always use a real HTTP header for headers such as Cache-Control and Pragma.

Found a swap file by the name

Accepted answer fails to mention how to delete the .swp file.

Hit "D" when the prompt comes up and it will remove it.

In my case, after I hit D it left the latest saved version intact and deleted the .swp which got created because I exited VIM incorrectly

What is the best way to prevent session hijacking?

Have you considered reading a book on PHP security? Highly recommended.

I have had much success with the following method for non SSL certified sites.

  1. Dis-allow multiple sessions under the same account, making sure you aren't checking this solely by IP address. Rather check by token generated upon login which is stored with the users session in the database, as well as IP address, HTTP_USER_AGENT and so forth

  2. Using Relation based hyperlinks Generates a link ( eg. http://example.com/secure.php?token=2349df98sdf98a9asdf8fas98df8 ) The link is appended with a x-BYTE ( preferred size ) random salted MD5 string, upon page redirection the randomly generated token corresponds to a requested page.

    • Upon reload, several checks are done.
    • Originating IP Address
    • HTTP_USER_AGENT
    • Session Token
    • you get the point.
  3. Short Life-span session authentication cookie. as posted above, a cookie containing a secure string, which is one of the direct references to the sessions validity is a good idea. Make it expire every x Minutes, reissuing that token, and re-syncing the session with the new Data. If any mis-matches in the data, either log the user out, or having them re-authenticate their session.

I am in no means an expert on the subject, I'v had a bit of experience in this particular topic, hope some of this helps anyone out there.

operator << must take exactly one argument

The problem is that you define it inside the class, which

a) means the second argument is implicit (this) and

b) it will not do what you want it do, namely extend std::ostream.

You have to define it as a free function:

class A { /* ... */ };
std::ostream& operator<<(std::ostream&, const A& a);

PHP append one array to another (not array_push or +)

Before PHP7 you can use:

array_splice($a, count($a), 0, $b);

array_splice() operates with reference to array (1st argument) and puts array (4th argument) values in place of list of values started from 2nd argument and number of 3rd argument. When we set 2nd argument as end of source array and 3rd as zero we append 4th argument values to 1st argument

Simplest/cleanest way to implement a singleton in JavaScript

Christian C. Salvadó's and zzzzBov's answer have both given wonderful answers, but just to add my own interpretation based on my having moved into heavy Node.js development from PHP/Zend Framework where singleton patterns were common.

The following, comment-documented code is based on the following requirements:

  • one and only one instance of the function object may be instantiated
  • the instance is not publicly available and may only be accessed through a public method
  • the constructor is not publicly available and may only be instantiated if there is not already an instance available
  • the declaration of the constructor must allow its prototype chain to be modified. This will allow the constructor to inherit from other prototypes, and offer "public" methods for the instance

My code is very similar to zzzzBov's answer except I've added a prototype chain to the constructor and more comments that should help those coming from PHP or a similar language translate traditional OOP to JavaScript's prototypical nature. It may not be the "simplest" but I believe it is the most proper.

// Declare 'Singleton' as the returned value of a self-executing anonymous function
var Singleton = (function () {
    "use strict";
    // 'instance' and 'constructor' should not be available in a "public" scope
    // here they are "private", thus available only within
    // the scope of the self-executing anonymous function
    var _instance=null;
    var _constructor = function (name) {
        this.name = name || 'default';
    }

    // Prototypes will be "public" methods available from the instance
    _constructor.prototype.getName = function () {
        return this.name;
    }

    // Using the module pattern, return a static object
    // which essentially is a list of "public static" methods
    return {
        // Because getInstance is defined within the same scope
        // it can access the "private" 'instance' and 'constructor' vars
        getInstance:function (name) {
            if (!_instance) {
                console.log('creating'); // This should only happen once
                _instance = new _constructor(name);
            }
            console.log('returning');
            return _instance;
        }
    }

})(); // Self execute

// Ensure 'instance' and 'constructor' are unavailable
// outside the scope in which they were defined
// thus making them "private" and not "public"
console.log(typeof _instance); // undefined
console.log(typeof _constructor); // undefined

// Assign instance to two different variables
var a = Singleton.getInstance('first');
var b = Singleton.getInstance('second'); // passing a name here does nothing because the single instance was already instantiated

// Ensure 'a' and 'b' are truly equal
console.log(a === b); // true

console.log(a.getName()); // "first"
console.log(b.getName()); // Also returns "first" because it's the same instance as 'a'

Note that technically, the self-executing anonymous function is itself a singleton as demonstrated nicely in the code provided by Christian C. Salvadó. The only catch here is that it is not possible to modify the prototype chain of the constructor when the constructor itself is anonymous.

Keep in mind that to JavaScript, the concepts of “public” and “private” do not apply as they do in PHP or Java. But we have achieved the same effect by leveraging JavaScript’s rules of functional scope availability.

I know this is a little bit too late but it might just help someone.

This article describes how to render text in OpenGL using various techniques.

With only using opengl, there are several ways:

  • using glBitmap
  • using textures
  • using display lists

Git: How do I list only local branches?

There's a great answer to a post about how to delete local only branches. In it, the fellow builds a command to list out the local branches:

git branch -vv | cut -c 3- | awk '$3 !~/\[/ { print $1 }'

The answer has a great explanation about how this command was derived, so I would suggest you go and read that post.

Visual Studio 2012 Web Publish doesn't copy files

I tried all of these solutions but this is the one that works every time.

We just change the "Publish method:" from "File System" to for example "Web Deploy", and immediately change it back to "File System".

How to auto-size an iFrame?

I found the solution by @ShripadK most helpful, but it does not work, if there is more than one iframe. My fix is:

function autoResizeIFrame() {
  $('iframe').height(
    function() {
      return $(this).contents().find('body').height() + 20;
    }
  )
}

$('iframe').contents().find('body').css(
  {"min-height": "100", "overflow" : "hidden"});

setTimeout(autoResizeIFrame, 2000);
setTimeout(autoResizeIFrame, 10000);
  • $('iframe').height($('iframe').contents().find('body').height() + 20) would set the height of every frame to the same value, namely the height of the content of the first frame. So I am using jquery's height() with a function instead of a value. That way the individual heights are calculated
  • + 20 is a hack to work around iframe scrollbar problems. The number must be bigger than the size of a scrollbar. The hack can probably be avoided but disabling the scrollbars for the iframe.
  • I use setTimeout instead of setInterval(..., 1) to reduce CPU load in my case

set default schema for a sql query

For Oracle, please use this simple command:

ALTER SESSION SET current_schema = your-schema-without-quotes;

Connect with SSH through a proxy

ProxyCommand nc -proxy xxx.com:8080 %h %p

remove -X connect and use -proxy instead.

Worked for me.

Functional programming vs Object Oriented programming

When do you choose functional programming over object oriented?

When you anticipate a different kind of software evolution:

  • Object-oriented languages are good when you have a fixed set of operations on things, and as your code evolves, you primarily add new things. This can be accomplished by adding new classes which implement existing methods, and the existing classes are left alone.

  • Functional languages are good when you have a fixed set of things, and as your code evolves, you primarily add new operations on existing things. This can be accomplished by adding new functions which compute with existing data types, and the existing functions are left alone.

When evolution goes the wrong way, you have problems:

  • Adding a new operation to an object-oriented program may require editing many class definitions to add a new method.

  • Adding a new kind of thing to a functional program may require editing many function definitions to add a new case.

This problem has been well known for many years; in 1998, Phil Wadler dubbed it the "expression problem". Although some researchers think that the expression problem can be addressed with such language features as mixins, a widely accepted solution has yet to hit the mainstream.

What are the typical problem definitions where functional programming is a better choice?

Functional languages excel at manipulating symbolic data in tree form. A favorite example is compilers, where source and intermediate languages change seldom (mostly the same things), but compiler writers are always adding new translations and code improvements or optimizations (new operations on things). Compilation and translation more generally are "killer apps" for functional languages.

Find size of object instance in bytes in c#

For value types, you can use Marshal.SizeOf. Of course, it returns the number of bytes required to marshal the structure in unmanaged memory, which is not necessarily what the CLR uses.

How to update/upgrade a package using pip?

The way is

pip install [package_name] --upgrade

or in short

pip install [package_name] -U

Using sudo will ask to enter your root password to confirm the action, but although common, is considered unsafe.

If you do not have a root password (if you are not the admin) you should probably work with virtualenv.

You can also use the user flag to install it on this user only.

pip install [package_name] --upgrade --user

Passing data between view controllers

After more research it seemed that protocols and delegates were the correct/Apple preferred way of doing this.

I ended up using this example (in the iPhone development SDK):

Sharing data between view controllers and other objects

It worked fine and allowed me to pass a string and an array forward and back between my views.

jQuery if div contains this text, replace that part of the text

If it's possible, you could wrap the word(s) you want to replace in a span tag, like so:

<div class="text_div">
    This div <span>contains</span> some text.
</div>

You can then easily change its contents with jQuery:

$('.text_div > span').text('hello everyone');

If you can't wrap it in a span tag, you could use regular expressions.

Adding 1 hour to time variable

for this problem please follow bellow code:

$time= '10:09';
$new_time=date('H:i',strtotime($time.'+ 1 hour'));
echo $new_time;`
// now output will be: 11:09

React JSX: selecting "selected" on selected <select> option

I've had a problem with <select> tags not updating to the correct <option> when the state changes. My problem seemed to be that if you render twice in quick succession, the first time with no pre-selected <option> but the second time with one, then the <select> tag doesn't update on the second render, but stays on the default first .

I found a solution to this using refs. You need to get a reference to your <select> tag node (which might be nested in some component), and then manually update the value property on it, in the componentDidUpdate hook.

componentDidUpdate(){
  let selectNode = React.findDOMNode(this.refs.selectingComponent.refs.selectTag);
  selectNode.value = this.state.someValue;
}

How to convert an array of key-value tuples into an object

use the following way to convert the array to an object easily.

var obj = {};
array.forEach(function(e){
   obj[e[0]] = e[1]
})

This will use the first element as the key and the second element as the value for each element.

PHP/MySQL: How to create a comment section in your website

You can create a 'comment' table, with an id as primary key, then you add a text field to capture the text inserted by the user and you need another field to link the comment table to the article table (foreign key). Plus you need a field to store the user that has entered a comment, this field can be the user's email. Then you capture via GET or POST the user's email and comment and you insert everything in the DB:

"INSERT INTO comment (comment, email, approved) VALUES ('$comment', '$email', '$approved')"

This is a first hint. Of course adding a comment feature it takes a little bit. Then you should think about a form to let the admin to approve the comments and how to publish the comments in the end of articles.

How do I convert a String to an InputStream in Java?

Like this:

InputStream stream = new ByteArrayInputStream(exampleString.getBytes(StandardCharsets.UTF_8));

Note that this assumes that you want an InputStream that is a stream of bytes that represent your original string encoded as UTF-8.

For versions of Java less than 7, replace StandardCharsets.UTF_8 with "UTF-8".

What is your most productive shortcut with Vim?

Actually I was always losing my buffers, so the way I usually copy a range of lines is to just write it to a temp file, and then read it in at the appropriate spot.

e.g.

ka (set the mark)

'a,. w! t (copy everything form the mark into the file t)

.. move your cursor around ..

:.r t (read in t into the current spot).

This probably involves fewer keystrokes than using the buffer, is easier to keep track of, and you can have long lived paste files around. I usually use 1 letter names for the files, for speed.

The key reason why this is fast is that to move your cursor around you just use the search function "/", and "n" if you run into another occurrence of the pattern before you get to where you want to go.

Excel: last character/string match in a string

Cell A1 = find/the/position/of/the last slash

simple way to do it is reverse the text and then find the first slash as normal. Now you can get the length of the full text minus this number.

Like so:

=LEN(A1)-FIND("/",REVERSETEXT(A1),1)+1

This returns 21, the position of the last /

Git - Ignore files during merge

Here git-update-index - Register file contents in the working tree to the index.

git update-index --assume-unchanged <PATH_OF_THE_FILE>

Example:-

git update-index --assume-unchanged somelocation/pom.xml

Angular 4.3 - HttpClient set params

Just wanted to add that if you want to add several parameters with the same key name for example: www.test.com/home?id=1&id=2

let params = new HttpParams();
params = params.append(key, value);

Use append, if you use set, it will overwrite the previous value with the same key name.

Creating Accordion Table with Bootstrap

This seems to be already asked before:

This might help:

Twitter Bootstrap Use collapse.js on table cells [Almost Done]

UPDATE:

Your fiddle wasn't loading jQuery, so anything worked.

<table class="table table-hover">
<thead>
  <tr>
    <th></th>
    <th></th>
    <th></th>
  </tr>
</thead>

<tbody>
    <tr data-toggle="collapse" data-target="#accordion" class="clickable">
        <td>Some Stuff</td>
        <td>Some more stuff</td>
        <td>And some more</td>
    </tr>
    <tr>
        <td colspan="3">
            <div id="accordion" class="collapse">Hidden by default</div>
        </td>
    </tr>
</tbody>
</table>

Try this one: http://jsfiddle.net/Nb7wy/2/

I also added colspan='2' to the details row. But it's essentially your fiddle with jQuery loaded (in frameworks in the left column)

jQuery - Uncaught RangeError: Maximum call stack size exceeded

Your calls are made recursively which pushes functions on to the stack infinitely that causes max call stack exceeded error due to recursive behavior. Instead try using setTimeout which is a callback.

Also based on your markup your selector is wrong. it should be #advisersDiv

Demo

function fadeIn() {
    $('#pulseDiv').find('div#advisersDiv').delay(400).addClass("pulse");
    setTimeout(fadeOut,1); //<-- Provide any delay here
};

function fadeOut() {
    $('#pulseDiv').find('div#advisersDiv').delay(400).removeClass("pulse");
    setTimeout(fadeIn,1);//<-- Provide any delay here
};
fadeIn();

Is it possible to have placeholders in strings.xml for runtime values?

Supplemental Answer

When I first saw %1$s and %2$d in the accepted answer, it made no sense. Here is a little more explanation.

They are called format specifiers. In the xml string they are in the form of

%[parameter_index$][format_type]
  • %: The percent sign marks the beginning of the format specifier.
  • parameter index: This is a number followed by a dollar sign. If you had three parameters that you wanted to insert into the string, then they would be called 1$, 2$, and 3$. The order you place them in the resource string doesn't matter, only the order that you supply the parameters.
  • format type: There are a lot of ways that you can format things (see the documentation). Here are some common ones:

    • s string
    • d decimal integer
    • f floating point number

Example

We will create the following formatted string where the gray parts are inserted programmatically.

My sister Mary is 12 years old.

string.xml

<string name="my_xml_string">My sister %1$s is %2$d years old.</string>

MyActivity.java

String myString = "Mary";
int myInt = 12;
String formatted = getString(R.string.my_xml_string, myString, myInt);

Notes

  • I could use getString because I was in an Activity. You can use context.getResources().getString(...) if it is not available.
  • String.format() will also format a String.
  • The 1$ and 2$ terms don't need to be used in that order. That is, 2$ can come before 1$. This is useful when internationalizing an app for languages that use a different word order.
  • You can use a format specifier like %1$s multiple times in the xml if you want to repeat it.
  • Use %% to get the actual % character.
  • For more details read the following helpful tutorial: Android SDK Quick Tip: Formatting Resource Strings

DateTime's representation in milliseconds?

As of .NET 4.6, you can use a DateTimeOffset object to get the unix milliseconds. It has a constructor which takes a DateTime object, so you can just pass in your object as demonstrated below.

DateTime yourDateTime;
long yourDateTimeMilliseconds = new DateTimeOffset(yourDateTime).ToUnixTimeMilliseconds();

As noted in other answers, make sure yourDateTime has the correct Kind specified, or use .ToUniversalTime() to convert it to UTC time first.

Here you can learn more about DateTimeOffset.

Spring Boot REST API - request timeout?

You need to return a Callable<> if you want spring.mvc.async.request-timeout=5000 to work.

@RequestMapping(method = RequestMethod.GET)
public Callable<String> getFoobar() throws InterruptedException {
    return new Callable<String>() {
        @Override
        public String call() throws Exception {
            Thread.sleep(8000); //this will cause a timeout
            return "foobar";
        }
    };
}

JS Client-Side Exif Orientation: Rotate and Mirror JPEG Images

WunderBart's answer was the best for me. Note that you can speed it up a lot if your images are often the right way around, simply by testing the orientation first and bypassing the rest of the code if no rotation is required.

Putting all of the info from wunderbart together, something like this;

var handleTakePhoto = function () {
    let fileInput: HTMLInputElement = <HTMLInputElement>document.getElementById('photoInput');
    fileInput.addEventListener('change', (e: any) => handleInputUpdated(fileInput, e.target.files));
    fileInput.click();
}

var handleInputUpdated = function (fileInput: HTMLInputElement, fileList) {
    let file = null;

    if (fileList.length > 0 && fileList[0].type.match(/^image\//)) {
        isLoading(true);
        file = fileList[0];
        getOrientation(file, function (orientation) {
            if (orientation == 1) {
                imageBinary(URL.createObjectURL(file));
                isLoading(false);
            }
            else
            {
                resetOrientation(URL.createObjectURL(file), orientation, function (resetBase64Image) {
                    imageBinary(resetBase64Image);

Get the element triggering an onclick event in jquery?

If you don't want to pass the clicked on element to the function through a parameter, then you need to access the event object that is happening, and get the target from that object. This is most easily done if you bind the click event like this:

$('#sendButton').click(function(e){
    var SendButton = $(e.target);
    var TheForm = SendButton.parents('form');
    TheForm.submit();

    return false;
});

Clearing content of text file using C#

Just open the file with the FileMode.Truncate flag, then close it:

using (var fs = new FileStream(@"C:\path\to\file", FileMode.Truncate))
{
}

Convert List(of object) to List(of string)

If you want more control over how the conversion takes place, you can use ConvertAll:

var stringList = myList.ConvertAll(obj => obj.SomeToStringMethod());

PHP: Possible to automatically get all POSTed data?

What's the best practice using a settings file in Python?

I Found this the most useful and easy to use https://wiki.python.org/moin/ConfigParserExamples

You just create a "myfile.ini" like:

[SectionOne]
Status: Single
Name: Derek
Value: Yes
Age: 30
Single: True

[SectionTwo]
FavoriteColor=Green
[SectionThree]
FamilyName: Johnson

[Others]
Route: 66

And retrieve the data like:

>>> import ConfigParser
>>> Config = ConfigParser.ConfigParser()
>>> Config
<ConfigParser.ConfigParser instance at 0x00BA9B20>
>>> Config.read("myfile.ini")
['c:\\tomorrow.ini']
>>> Config.sections()
['Others', 'SectionThree', 'SectionOne', 'SectionTwo']
>>> Config.options('SectionOne')
['Status', 'Name', 'Value', 'Age', 'Single']
>>> Config.get('SectionOne', 'Status')
'Single'

org.xml.sax.SAXParseException: Premature end of file for *VALID* XML

This exception only happens if you are parsing an empty String/empty byte array.

below is a snippet on how to reproduce it:

String xml = ""; // <-- deliberately an empty string.
ByteArrayInputStream xmlStream = new java.io.ByteArrayInputStream(xml.getBytes());
Unmarshaller u = JAXBContext.newInstance(...)
u.setSchema(...);
u.unmarshal( xmlStream ); // <-- here it will fail

Using Python, how can I access a shared folder on windows network?

Use forward slashes to specify the UNC Path:

(if your Python client code is also running under Windows)

How do you get the process ID of a program in Unix or Linux using Python?

For Windows

A Way to get all the pids of programs on your computer without downloading any modules:

import os

pids = []
a = os.popen("tasklist").readlines()
for x in a:
      try:
         pids.append(int(x[29:34]))
      except:
           pass
for each in pids:
         print(each)

If you just wanted one program or all programs with the same name and you wanted to kill the process or something:

import os, sys, win32api

tasklistrl = os.popen("tasklist").readlines()
tasklistr = os.popen("tasklist").read()

print(tasklistr)

def kill(process):
     process_exists_forsure = False
     gotpid = False
     for examine in tasklistrl:
            if process == examine[0:len(process)]:
                process_exists_forsure = True
     if process_exists_forsure:
         print("That process exists.")
     else:
        print("That process does not exist.")
        raw_input()
        sys.exit()
     for getpid in tasklistrl:
         if process == getpid[0:len(process)]:
                pid = int(getpid[29:34])
                gotpid = True
                try:
                  handle = win32api.OpenProcess(1, False, pid)
                  win32api.TerminateProcess(handle, 0)
                  win32api.CloseHandle(handle)
                  print("Successfully killed process %s on pid %d." % (getpid[0:len(prompt)], pid))
                except win32api.error as err:
                  print(err)
                  raw_input()
                  sys.exit()
    if not gotpid:
       print("Could not get process pid.")
       raw_input()
       sys.exit()

   raw_input()
   sys.exit()

prompt = raw_input("Which process would you like to kill? ")
kill(prompt)

That was just a paste of my process kill program I could make it a whole lot better but it is okay.

You can also try with /usr/local/bin/git it worked for me

JavaScript/jQuery: replace part of string?

You need to set the text after the replace call:

_x000D_
_x000D_
$('.element span').each(function() {_x000D_
  console.log($(this).text());_x000D_
  var text = $(this).text().replace('N/A, ', '');_x000D_
  $(this).text(text);_x000D_
});
_x000D_
<script src="https://cdnjs.cloudflare.com/ajax/libs/jquery/3.3.1/jquery.min.js"></script>_x000D_
<div class="element">_x000D_
  <span>N/A, Category</span>_x000D_
</div>
_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_

Here's another cool way you can do it (hat tip @Felix King):

$(".element span").text(function(index, text) {
    return text.replace("N/A, ", "");
});

How to make all controls resize accordingly proportionally when window is maximized?

Just thought i'd share this with anyone who needs more clarity on how to achieve this:

myCanvas is a Canvas control and Parent to all other controllers. This code works to neatly resize to any resolution from 1366 x 768 upward. Tested up to 4k resolution 4096 x 2160

Take note of all the MainWindow property settings (WindowStartupLocation, SizeToContent and WindowState) - important for this to work correctly - WindowState for my user case requirement was Maximized

Update index after sorting data-frame

You can set new indices by using set_index:

df2.set_index(np.arange(len(df2.index)))

Output:

   x  y
0  0  0
1  0  1
2  0  2
3  1  0
4  1  1
5  1  2
6  2  0
7  2  1
8  2  2

Unable to run Java GUI programs with Ubuntu

I stopped getting this exception when I installed default-jdk using apt. I'm running Ubuntu 14.04 (Trusty Tahr), and the problem appears to have been the result of having a "headless" Java installed. All I did was:

sudo apt-get install default-jdk

Replace a value in a data frame based on a conditional (`if`) statement

Short answer is:

junk$nm[junk$nm %in% "B"] <- "b"

Take a look at Index vectors in R Introduction (if you don't read it yet).

EDIT. As noticed in comments this solution works for character vectors so fail on your data.

For factor best way is to change level:

levels(junk$nm)[levels(junk$nm)=="B"] <- "b"

How to achieve pagination/table layout with Angular.js?

The simplest way is using slice. You pipe the slice and mention the start index and end index for the part of the data you wish to display. Here is the code:
HTML

<table>
  <thead>
     ...
  </thead>
  <tbody>
     <tr *ngFor="let row of rowData | slice:startIndex:endIndex">
        ...
     </tr>
  </tbody>
</table>
<nav *ngIf="rowData" aria-label="Page navigation example">
    <ul class="pagination">
        <li class="page-item">
            <a class="page-link" (click)="updateIndex(0)" aria-label="Previous">
                <span aria-hidden="true">First</span>
            </a>
        </li>
        <li *ngFor="let i of getArrayFromNumber(rowData.length)" class="page-item">
            <a class="page-link" (click)="updateIndex(i)">{{i+1}}</a></li>

        <li class="page-item">
            <a class="page-link" (click)="updateIndex(pageNumberArray.length-1)" aria-label="Next">
                <span aria-hidden="true">Last</span>
            </a>
        </li>
    </ul>
</nav>

TypeScript

...
public rowData = data // data you want to display in table
public paginationRowCount = 100 //number of records in a page
...
getArrayFromNumber(length) {
        if (length % this.paginationRowCount === 0) {
            this.pageNumberArray = Array.from(Array(Math.floor(length / this.paginationRowCount)).keys());
        } else {
            this.pageNumberArray = Array.from(Array(Math.floor(length / this.paginationRowCount) + 1).keys());
        }
        return this.pageNumberArray;
    }

    updateIndex(pageIndex) {
        this.startIndex = pageIndex * this.paginationRowCount;
        if (this.rowData.length > this.startIndex + this.paginationRowCount) {
            this.endIndex = this.startIndex + this.paginationRowCount;

Using if elif fi in shell scripts

This is working for me,

 # cat checking.sh
 #!/bin/bash
 echo "You have provided the following arguments $arg1 $arg2 $arg3"
 if [ "$arg1" = "$arg2" ] && [ "$arg1" != "$arg3" ]
 then
     echo "Two of the provided args are equal."
     exit 3
 elif [ $arg1 == $arg2 ] && [ $arg1 = $arg3 ]
 then
     echo "All of the specified args are equal"
     exit 0
 else
     echo "All of the specified args are different"
     exit 4
 fi

 # ./checking.sh
 You have provided the following arguments
 All of the specified args are equal

You can add set -x in script to troubleshoot the errors.

Redis command to get all available keys?

Updated for Redis 2.8 and above

As noted in the comments of previous answers to this question, KEYS is a potentially dangerous command since your Redis server will be unavailable to do other operations while it serves it. Another risk with KEYS is that it can consume (dependent on the size of your keyspace) a lot of RAM to prepare the response buffer, thus possibly exhausting your server's memory.

Version 2.8 of Redis had introduced the SCAN family of commands that are much more polite and can be used for the same purpose.

The CLI also provides a nice way to work with it:

$ redis-cli --scan --pattern '*'

Use 'class' or 'typename' for template parameters?

As far as I know, it doesn't matter which one you use. They're equivalent in the eyes of the compiler. Use whichever one you prefer. I normally use class.

How to configure PHP to send e-mail?

To fix this, you must review your PHP.INI, and the mail services setup you have in your server.

But my best advice for you is to forget about the mail() function. It depends on PHP.INI settings, it's configuration is different depending on the platform (Linux or Windows), and it can't handle SMTP authentication, which is a big trouble in current days. Too much headache.

Use "PHP Mailer" instead (https://github.com/PHPMailer/PHPMailer), it's a PHP class available for free, and it can handle almost any SMTP server, internal or external, with or without authentication, it works exactly the same way on Linux and Windows, and it won't depend on PHP.INI settings. It comes with many examples, it's very powerful and easy to use.

Android intent for playing video?

From now onwards after API 24, Uri.parse(filePath) won't work. You need to use this

final File videoFile = new File("path to your video file");
Uri fileUri = FileProvider.getUriForFile(mContext, "{yourpackagename}.fileprovider", videoFile);
Intent intent = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_VIEW);
intent.setDataAndType(fileUri, "video/*");
intent.addFlags(Intent.FLAG_GRANT_READ_URI_PERMISSION);//DO NOT FORGET THIS EVER
startActivity(intent);

But before using this you need to understand how file provider works. Go to official document link to understand file provider better.

Script parameters in Bash

In bash $1 is the first argument passed to the script, $2 second and so on

/usr/local/bin/abbyyocr9 -rl Swedish -if "$1" -of "$2" 2>&1

So you can use:

./your_script.sh some_source_file.png destination_file.txt

Explanation on double quotes;

consider three scripts:

# foo.sh
bash bar.sh $1

# cat foo2.sh
bash bar.sh "$1"

# bar.sh
echo "1-$1" "2-$2"

Now invoke:

$ bash foo.sh "a b"
1-a 2-b

$ bash foo2.sh "a b"
1-a b 2-

When you invoke foo.sh "a b" then it invokes bar.sh a b (two arguments), and with foo2.sh "a b" it invokes bar.sh "a b" (1 argument). Always have in mind how parameters are passed and expaned in bash, it will save you a lot of headache.

Inserting image into IPython notebook markdown

I put the IPython notebook in the same folder with the image. I use Windows. The image name is "phuong huong xac dinh.PNG".

Code:

from IPython.display import Image

Match multiline text using regular expression

This has nothing to do with the MULTILINE flag; what you're seeing is the difference between the find() and matches() methods. find() succeeds if a match can be found anywhere in the target string, while matches() expects the regex to match the entire string.

Pattern p = Pattern.compile("xyz");

Matcher m = p.matcher("123xyzabc");
System.out.println(m.find());    // true
System.out.println(m.matches()); // false

Matcher m = p.matcher("xyz");
System.out.println(m.matches()); // true

Furthermore, MULTILINE doesn't mean what you think it does. Many people seem to jump to the conclusion that you have to use that flag if your target string contains newlines--that is, if it contains multiple logical lines. I've seen several answers here on SO to that effect, but in fact, all that flag does is change the behavior of the anchors, ^ and $.

Normally ^ matches the very beginning of the target string, and $ matches the very end (or before a newline at the end, but we'll leave that aside for now). But if the string contains newlines, you can choose for ^ and $ to match at the start and end of any logical line, not just the start and end of the whole string, by setting the MULTILINE flag.

So forget about what MULTILINE means and just remember what it does: changes the behavior of the ^ and $ anchors. DOTALL mode was originally called "single-line" (and still is in some flavors, including Perl and .NET), and it has always caused similar confusion. We're fortunate that the Java devs went with the more descriptive name in that case, but there was no reasonable alternative for "multiline" mode.

In Perl, where all this madness started, they've admitted their mistake and gotten rid of both "multiline" and "single-line" modes in Perl 6 regexes. In another twenty years, maybe the rest of the world will have followed suit.

Installing Python library from WHL file

From How do I install a Python package with a .whl file? [sic], How do I install a Python package USING a .whl file ?

For all Windows platforms:

1) Download the .WHL package install file.

2) Make Sure path [C:\Progra~1\Python27\Scripts] is in the system PATH string. This is for using both [pip.exe] and [easy-install.exe].

3) Make sure the latest version of pip.EXE is now installed. At this time of posting:

pip.EXE --version

  pip 9.0.1 from C:\PROGRA~1\Python27\lib\site-packages (python 2.7)

4) Run pip.EXE in an Admin command shell.

 - Open an Admin privileged command shell.

 > easy_install.EXE --upgrade  pip

 - Check the pip.EXE version:
 > pip.EXE --version

 pip 9.0.1 from C:\PROGRA~1\Python27\lib\site-packages (python 2.7)

 > pip.EXE install --use-wheel --no-index
     --find-links="X:\path to wheel file\DownloadedWheelFile.whl"

Be sure to double-quote paths or path\filenames with embedded spaces in them ! Alternatively, use the MSW 'short' paths and filenames.

jQuery: Get height of hidden element in jQuery

Here's a script I wrote to handle all of jQuery's dimension methods for hidden elements, even descendants of hidden parents. Note that, of course, there's a performance hit using this.

// Correctly calculate dimensions of hidden elements
(function($) {
    var originals = {},
        keys = [
            'width',
            'height',
            'innerWidth',
            'innerHeight',
            'outerWidth',
            'outerHeight',
            'offset',
            'scrollTop',
            'scrollLeft'
        ],
        isVisible = function(el) {
            el = $(el);
            el.data('hidden', []);

            var visible = true,
                parents = el.parents(),

                hiddenData[hiddenData.length] = el;
            }

            parents.each(function(i, parent) {

Date ticks and rotation in matplotlib

Solution works for matplotlib 2.1+

There exists an axes method tick_params that can change tick properties. It also exists as an axis method as set_tick_params

ax.tick_params(axis='x', rotation=45)

Or

ax.xaxis.set_tick_params(rotation=45)

As a side note, the current solution mixes the stateful interface (using pyplot) with the object-oriented interface by using the command plt.xticks(rotation=70). Since the code in the question uses the object-oriented approach, it's best to stick to that approach throughout. The solution does give a good explicit solution with plt.setp( axs[1].xaxis.get_majorticklabels(), rotation=70 )

Which "href" value should I use for JavaScript links, "#" or "javascript:void(0)"?

I use javascript:void(0).

Three reasons. Encouraging the use of # amongst a team of developers inevitably leads to some using the return value of the function called like this:

function doSomething() {
    //Some code
    return false;
}

But then they forget to use return doSomething() in the onclick and just use doSomething().

A second reason for avoiding # is that the final return false; will not execute if the called function throws an error. Hence the developers have to also remember to handle any error appropriately in the called function.

A third reason is that there are cases where the onclick event property is assigned dynamically. I prefer to be able to call a function or assign it dynamically without having to code the function specifically for one method of attachment or another. Hence my onclick (or on anything) in HTML markup look like this:

onclick="someFunc.call(this)"

OR

onclick="someFunc.apply(this, arguments)"

Using javascript:void(0) avoids all of the above headaches, and I haven't found any examples of a downside.

So if you're a lone developer then you can clearly make your own choice, but if you work as a team you have to either state:

Use href="#", make sure onclick always contains return false; at the end, that any called function does not throw an error and if you attach a function dynamically to the onclick property make sure that as well as not throwing an error it returns false.

OR

Use href="javascript:void(0)"

The second is clearly much easier to communicate.

Convert Java Date to UTC String

java.time.Instant

Just use Instant of java.time.

    System.out.println(Instant.now());

This just printed:

2018-01-27T09:35:23.179612Z

Instant.toString always gives UTC time.

The output is usually sortable, but there are unfortunate exceptions. toString gives you enough groups of three decimals to render the precision it holds. On the Java 9 on my Mac the precision of Instant.now() seems to be microseconds, but we should expect that in approximately one case out of a thousand it will hit a whole number of milliseconds and print only three decimals. Strings with unequal numbers of decimals will be sorted in the wrong order (unless you write a custom comparator to take this into account).

Instant is one of the classes in java.time, the modern Java date and time API, which I warmly recommend that you use instead of the outdated Date class. java.time is built into Java 8 and later and has also been backported to Java 6 and 7.

PHP/Apache: PHP Fatal error: Call to undefined function mysql_connect()

In case anyone else faces this, it's a case of PHP not having access to the mysql client libraries. Having a MySQL server on the system is not the correct fix. Fix for ubuntu (and PHP 5):

sudo apt-get install php5-mysql

After installing the client, the webserver should be restarted. In case you're using apache, the following should work:

sudo service apache2 restart

Pass request headers in a jQuery AJAX GET call

As of jQuery 1.5, there is a headers hash you can pass in as follows:

$.ajax({
    url: "/test",
    headers: {"X-Test-Header": "test-value"}
});

From http://api.jquery.com/jQuery.ajax:

headers (added 1.5): A map of additional header key/value pairs to send along with the request. This setting is set before the beforeSend function is called; therefore, any values in the headers setting can be overwritten from within the beforeSend function.

jQuery $(".class").click(); - multiple elements, click event once

Apologies for bumping this old thread. I had the same problem right now, and I wanted to share my solution.

$(".yourButtonClass").on('click', function(event){
    event.stopPropagation();
    event.stopImmediatePropagation();
    //(... rest of your JS code)
});

event.StopPropagation and event.StopImmediatePropagation() should do the trick.

Having a .class selector for Event handler will result in bubbling of click event (sometimes to Parent element, sometimes to Children elements in DOM).

event.StopPropagation() method ensures that event doesn't bubble to Parent elements, while event.StopImmediatePropagation()method ensures that event doesn't bubble to Children elements of desired class selector.

Using Java to pull data from a webpage?

The simplest solution (without depending on any third-party library or platform) is to create a URL instance pointing to the web page / link you want to download, and read the content using streams.

For example:

import java.io.BufferedReader;
import java.io.IOException;
import java.io.InputStream;
import java.io.InputStreamReader;
import java.net.URL;
import java.net.URLConnection;

public class DownloadPage {

    public static void main(String[] args) throws IOException {

        // Make a URL to the web page
        URL url = new URL("http://stackoverflow.com/questions/6159118/using-java-to-pull-data-from-a-webpage");

        // Get the input stream through URL Connection
        URLConnection con = url.openConnection();
        InputStream is =con.getInputStream();

        // Once you have the Input Stream, it's just plain old Java IO stuff.

        // For this case, since you are interested in getting plain-text web page
        // I'll use a reader and output the text content to System.out.

        // For binary content, it's better to directly read the bytes from stream and write
        // to the target file.

        BufferedReader br = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(is));

        String line = null;

        // read each line and write to System.out
        while ((line = br.readLine()) != null) {
            System.out.println(line);
        }
    }
}

Hope this helps.

getResourceAsStream() vs FileInputStream

The FileInputStream class works directly with the underlying file system. If the file in question is not physically present there, it will fail to open it. The getResourceAsStream() method works differently. It tries to locate and load the resource using the ClassLoader of the class it is called on. This enables it to find, for example, resources embedded into jar files.

Convert seconds value to hours minutes seconds?

You should have more luck with

hours = roundThreeCalc.divide(var3600, BigDecimal.ROUND_FLOOR);
myremainder = roundThreeCalc.remainder(var3600);
minutes = myremainder.divide(var60, BigDecimal.ROUND_FLOOR);
seconds = myremainder.remainder(var60);

This will drop the decimal values after each division.

Edit: If that didn't work, try this. (I just wrote and tested it)

public static int[] splitToComponentTimes(BigDecimal biggy)
{
    long longVal = biggy.longValue();
    int hours = (int) longVal / 3600;
    int remainder = (int) longVal - hours * 3600;
    int mins = remainder / 60;
    remainder = remainder - mins * 60;
    int secs = remainder;

    int[] ints = {hours , mins , secs};
    return ints;
}

Otherwise you would need to use $(row).text() or $(row).html()

What's the difference between ViewData and ViewBag?

Although you might not have a technical advantage to choosing one format over the other, you should be aware of some important differences between the two syntaxes. One obvious difference is that ViewBag works only when the key you’re accessing is a valid C# identifi er. For example, if you place a value in ViewData["Key With Spaces"], you can’t access that value using ViewBag because the code won’t compile. Another key issue to consider is that you cannot pass in dynamic values as parameters to extension methods. The C# compiler must know the real type of every parameter at compile time in order to choose the correct extension method. If any parameter is dynamic, compilation will fail. For example, this code will always fail: @Html.TextBox("name", ViewBag.Name). To work around this, either use ViewData["Name"] or cast the va

Using setDate in PreparedStatement

The problem you're having is that you're passing incompatible formats from a formatted java.util.Date to construct an instance of java.sql.Date, which don't behave in the same way when using valueOf() since they use different formats.

I also can see that you're aiming to persist hours and minutes, and I think that you'd better change the data type to java.sql.Timestamp, which supports hours and minutes, along with changing your database field to DATETIME or similar (depending on your database vendor).

Anyways, if you want to change from java.util.Date to java.sql.Date, I suggest to use

java.util.Date date = Calendar.getInstance().getTime();
java.sql.Date sqlDate = new java.sql.Date(date.getTime());
// ... more code here
prs.setDate(sqlDate);

            // change the background color of the selected element

How to completely remove Python from a Windows machine?

It's actually quite simple. When you installed it, you must have done it using some .exe file (I am assuming). Just run that .exe again, and then there will be options to modify Python. Just select the "Complete Uninstall" option, and the EXE will completely wipe out python for you.

Also, you might have to checkbox the "Remove Python from PATH". By default it is selected, but you may as well check it to be sure :)

The total number of locks exceeds the lock table size

This issue can be resolved by setting the higher values for the MySQL variable innodb_buffer_pool_size. The default value for innodb_buffer_pool_size will be 8,388,608.

To change the settings value for innodb_buffer_pool_size please see the below set.

  1. Locate the file my.cnf from the server. For Linux servers this will be mostly at /etc/my.cnf
  2. Add the line innodb_buffer_pool_size=64MB to this file
  3. Restart the MySQL server

To restart the MySQL server, you can use anyone of the below 2 options:

  1. service mysqld restart
  2. /etc/init.d/mysqld restart

How to change the font size and color of x-axis and y-axis label in a scatterplot with plot function in R?

Look at ?par for the various graphics parameters.

In general cex controls size, col controls colour. If you want to control the colour of a label, the par is col.lab, the colour of the axis annotations col.axis, the colour of the main text, col.main etc. The names are quite intuitive, once you know where to begin.

For example

x <- 1:10
y <- 1:10

plot(x , y,xlab="x axis", ylab="y axis",  pch=19, col.axis = 'blue', col.lab = 'red', cex.axis = 1.5, cex.lab = 2)

enter image description here

If you need to change the colour / style of the surrounding box and axis lines, then look at ?axis or ?box, and you will find that you will be using the same parameter names within calls to box and axis.

You have a lot of control to make things however you wish.

eg

plot(x , y,xlab="x axis", ylab="y axis",  pch=19,  cex.lab = 2, axes = F,col.lab = 'red')
box(col = 'lightblue')
axis(1, col = 'blue', col.axis = 'purple', col.ticks = 'darkred', cex.axis = 1.5, font = 2, family = 'serif')
axis(2, col = 'maroon', col.axis = 'pink', col.ticks = 'limegreen', cex.axis = 0.9, font =3, family = 'mono')

enter image description here

Which is seriously ugly, but shows part of what you can control

Select from where field not equal to Mysql Php

The key is the sql query, which you will set up as a string:

$sqlquery = "SELECT field1, field2 FROM table WHERE NOT columnA = 'x' AND NOT columbB = 'y'";

Note that there are a lot of ways to specify NOT. Another one that works just as well is:

$sqlquery = "SELECT field1, field2 FROM table WHERE columnA != 'x' AND columbB != 'y'";

Here is a full example of how to use it:

$link = mysql_connect($dbHost,$dbUser,$dbPass) or die("Unable to connect to database");
mysql_select_db("$dbName") or die("Unable to select database $dbName");
$sqlquery = "SELECT field1, field2 FROM table WHERE NOT columnA = 'x' AND NOT columbB = 'y'";
$result=mysql_query($sqlquery);

while ($row = mysql_fetch_assoc($result) {
//do stuff
}

You can do whatever you would like within the above while loop. Access each field of the table as an element of the $row array which means that $row['field1'] will give you the value for field1 on the current row, and $row['field2'] will give you the value for field2.

Note that if the column(s) could have NULL values, those will not be found using either of the above syntaxes. You will need to add clauses to include NULL values:

$sqlquery = "SELECT field1, field2 FROM table WHERE (NOT columnA = 'x' OR columnA IS NULL) AND (NOT columbB = 'y' OR columnB IS NULL)";

Should I make HTML Anchors with 'name' or 'id'?

Wikipedia makes heavy use of this feature like this:

<a href="#History">[...]</a>
<span class="mw-headline" id="History">History</span>

And Wikipedia is working for everybody, so I would feel safe sticking with this form.

Also don't forget, you can use this not only with spans but with divs or even table cells, and then you have access to the :target pseudo-class on the element. Just watch out not to change the width, like with bold text, cause that moves content around, which is disturbing.

Named anchors - my vote is to avoid:

  • "Names and ids are in the same namespace..." - Two attributes with the same namespace is just crazy. Let's just say deprecated already.
  • "Anchors elements without href atribute" - Yet again, the nature of an element (hyperlink or not) is defined by having an atribute?! Double crazy. Common sense says to avoid it altogether.
  • If you ever style an anchor without a pseudo-class, the styling applies to each. In CSS3 you can get around this with attribute selectors (or same styling for each pseudoclass), but still it's a workaround. This usually doesn't come up because you choose colors per pseudo-class, and the underline being present by default it only makes sense to remove, which makes it the same as other text. But you ever decide to make your links bold, it'll cause trouble.
  • Netscape 4 might not support the id feature, but still an unknown attribute won't cause any trouble. That's what called compatibility for me.

What's the best way to parse a JSON response from the requests library?

You can use json.loads:

import json
import requests

response = requests.get(...)
json_data = json.loads(response.text)

This converts a given string into a dictionary which allows you to access your JSON data easily within your code.

Or you can use @Martijn's helpful suggestion, and the higher voted answer, response.json().

C# - Substring: index and length must refer to a location within the string

The second parameter in Substring is the length of the substring, not the end index.

You should probably include handling to check that it does indeed start with what you expect, end with what you expect, and is at least as long as you expect. And then if it doesn't match, you can either do something else or throw a meaningful error.

Here's some example code that validates that url contains your strings, that also is refactored a bit to make it easier to change the prefix/suffix to strip:

var prefix = "www.example.com/";
var suffix = ".jpg";
string url = "www.example.com/aaa/bbb.jpg";

if (url.StartsWith(prefix) && url.EndsWith(suffix) && url.Length >= (prefix.Length + suffix.Length))
{

    Console.WriteLine(newString);
}
else

How can I create directories recursively?

I agree with Cat Plus Plus's answer. However, if you know this will only be used on Unix-like OSes, you can use external calls to the shell commands mkdir, chmod, and chown. Make sure to pass extra flags to recursively affect directories:

>>> import subprocess
>>> subprocess.check_output(['mkdir', '-p', 'first/second/third'])
# Equivalent to running 'mkdir -p first/second/third' in a shell (which creates
# parent directories if they do not yet exist).

>>> subprocess.check_output(['chown', '-R', 'dail:users', 'first'])
# Recursively change owner to 'dail' and group to 'users' for 'first' and all of
# its subdirectories.

>>> subprocess.check_output(['chmod', '-R', 'g+w', 'first'])
# Add group write permissions to 'first' and all of its subdirectories.

EDIT I originally used commands, which was a bad choice since it is deprecated and vulnerable to injection attacks. (For example, if a user gave input to create a directory called first/;rm -rf --no-preserve-root /;, one could potentially delete all directories).

EDIT 2 If you are using Python less than 2.7, use check_call instead of check_output. See the subprocess documentation for details.

How to register multiple implementations of the same interface in Asp.Net Core?

I just simply inject an IEnumerable

Getting command-line password input in Python

Use getpass.getpass():

from getpass import getpass
password = getpass()

An optional prompt can be passed as parameter; the default is "Password: ".

Note that this function requires a proper terminal, so it can turn off echoing of typed characters – see “GetPassWarning: Can not control echo on the terminal” when running from IDLE for further details.

How do I create a Linked List Data Structure in Java?

The obvious solution to developers familiar to Java is to use the LinkedList class already provided in java.util. Say, however, you wanted to make your own implementation for some reason. Here is a quick example of a linked list that inserts a new link at the beginning of the list, deletes from the beginning of the list and loops through the list to print the links contained in it. Enhancements to this implementation include making it a double-linked list, adding methods to insert and delete from the middle or end, and by adding get and sort methods as well.

Note: In the example, the Link object doesn't actually contain another Link object - nextLink is actually only a reference to another link.

class Link {
    public int data1;
    public double data2;
    public Link nextLink;

    //Link constructor
    public Link(int d1, double d2) {
        data1 = d1;
        data2 = d2;
    }

    //Print Link data
    public void printLink() {
        System.out.print("{" + data1 + ", " + data2 + "} ");
    }
}

class LinkList {
    private Link first;

    //LinkList constructor
    public LinkList() {
        first = null;
    }

    //Returns true if list is empty
    public boolean isEmpty() {
        return first == null;
    }

    //Inserts a new Link at the first of the list
    public void insert(int d1, double d2) {
        Link link = new Link(d1, d2);
        link.nextLink = first;
        first = link;
    }

    //Deletes the link at the first of the list
    public Link delete() {
        Link temp = first;
        if(first == null){
         return null;
         //throw new NoSuchElementException(); // this is the better way.
        }
        first = first.nextLink;
        return temp;
    }

    //Prints list data
    public void printList() {
        Link currentLink = first;
        System.out.print("List: ");
        while(currentLink != null) {
            currentLink.printLink();
            currentLink = currentLink.nextLink;
        }
        System.out.println("");
    }
}

class LinkListTest {
    public static void main(String[] args) {
        LinkList list = new LinkList();

        list.insert(1, 1.01);
        list.insert(2, 2.02);
        list.insert(3, 3.03);
        list.insert(4, 4.04);
        list.insert(5, 5.05);

        list.printList();

        while(!list.isEmpty()) {
            Link deletedLink = list.delete();
            System.out.print("deleted: ");
            deletedLink.printLink();
            System.out.println("");
        }
        list.printList();
    }
}

Html.DropDownList - Disabled/Readonly

You could use this approach

Disabling all the options except the selected one:

<select>
    <option disabled>1</option>
    <option disabled>2</option>
    <option selected>3</option>
</select>

This way the dropdown still submits, but the user can not select another value.

With jQuery

<script>
    $(document).ready(function () {
        $('#yourSelectId option:not(:selected)').prop("disabled", true);
    });
</script>

What does 'git remote add upstream' help achieve?

Let's take an example: You want to contribute to django, so you fork its repository. In the while you work on your feature, there is much work done on the original repo by other people. So the code you forked is not the most up to date. setting a remote upstream and fetching it time to time makes sure your forked repo is in sync with the original repo.

Print a file, skipping the first X lines, in Bash

Use:

sed -n '1d;p'

This command will delete the first line and print the rest.

Razor MVC Populating Javascript array with Model Array

This is possible, you just need to loop through the razor collection

<script type="text/javascript">

    var myArray = [];

    @foreach (var d in Model.data)
    {
        @:myArray.push("@d");
    }

    alert(myArray);

</script>

Hope this helps

How to create a numpy array of arbitrary length strings?

You can do so by creating an array of dtype=object. If you try to assign a long string to a normal numpy array, it truncates the string:

>>> a = numpy.array(['apples', 'foobar', 'cowboy'])
>>> a[2] = 'bananas'
>>> a
array(['apples', 'foobar', 'banana'],
      dtype='|S6')

But when you use dtype=object, you get an array of python object references. So you can have all the behaviors of python strings:

>>> a = numpy.array(['apples', 'foobar', 'cowboy'], dtype=object)
>>> a
array([apples, foobar, cowboy], dtype=object)
>>> a[2] = 'bananas'
>>> a
array([apples, foobar, bananas], dtype=object)

Indeed, because it's an array of objects, you can assign any kind of python object to the array:

>>> a[2] = {1:2, 3:4}
>>> a
array([apples, foobar, {1: 2, 3: 4}], dtype=object)

However, this undoes a lot of the benefits of using numpy, which is so fast because it works on large contiguous blocks of raw memory. Working with python objects adds a lot of overhead. A simple example:

>>> a = numpy.array(['abba' for _ in range(10000)])
>>> b = numpy.array(['abba' for _ in range(10000)], dtype=object)
>>> %timeit a.copy()
100000 loops, best of 3: 2.51 us per loop
>>> %timeit b.copy()
10000 loops, best of 3: 48.4 us per loop

Difference between hamiltonian path and euler path

They are related but are neither dependent nor mutually exclusive. If a graph has an Eurler cycle, it may or may not also have a Hamiltonian cyle and vice versa.

Euler cycles visit every edge in the graph exactly once. If there are vertices in the graph with more than two edges, then by definition, the cycle will pass through those vertices more than once. As a result, vertices can be repeated but edges cannot.

Hamiltonian cycles visit every vertex in the graph exactly once (similar to the travelling salesman problem). As a result, neither edges nor vertices can be repeated.

Docker: Got permission denied while trying to connect to the Docker daemon socket at unix:///var/run/docker.sock

While doing production config i got the permission issue.I tried below solution to resolve the issue.

Error Message

ubuntu@node1:~$ docker run hello-world
docker: Got permission denied while trying to connect to the Docker daemon socket at unix:///var/run/docker.sock: Post http://%2Fvar%2Frun%2Fdocker.sock/v1.38/containers/create: dial unix /var/run/docker.sock: connect: permission denied.
See 'docker run --help'.

Solution: permissions of the socket indicated in the error message, /var/run/docker.sock:

ubuntu@ip-172-31-21-106:/var/run$ ls -lrth docker.sock
srw-rw---- 1 root root 0 Oct 17 11:08 docker.sock

ubuntu@ip-172-31-21-106:/var/run$ ls -lrth docker.sock
srw-rw-rw- 1 root root 0 Oct 17 11:08 docker.sock

After changes permission for docket.sock then execute below command to check permissions.

Hello from Docker!
This message shows that your installation appears to be working correctly.

To generate this message, Docker took the following steps:
 1. The Docker client contacted the Docker daemon.
 2. The Docker daemon pulled the "hello-world" image from the Docker Hub.
    (amd64)
 3. The Docker daemon created a new container from that image which runs the
    executable that produces the output you are currently reading.
 4. The Docker daemon streamed that output to the Docker client, which sent it
    to your terminal.

To try something more ambitious, you can run an Ubuntu container with:
 $ docker run -it ubuntu bash

Undefined function mysql_connect()

There must be some syntax error. Copy/paste this code and see if it works:

<?php
    $link = mysql_connect('localhost', 'root', '');
    if (!$link) {
        die('Could not connect:' . mysql_error());
    }
    echo 'Connected successfully';
    ?

I had the same error message. It turns out I was using the msql_connect() function instead of mysql_connect().

How can I run multiple curl requests processed sequentially?

Create a new RGB OpenCV image using Python?

The new cv2 interface for Python integrates numpy arrays into the OpenCV framework, which makes operations much simpler as they are represented with simple multidimensional arrays. For example, your question would be answered with:

import cv2 # Not actually necessary if you just want to create an image.
import numpy as np
blank_image = np.zeros((height,width,3), np.uint8)

This initialises an RGB-image that is just black. Now, for example, if you wanted to set the left half of the image to blue and the right half to green , you could do so easily:

blank_image[:,0:width//2] = (255,0,0)      # (B, G, R)
blank_image[:,width//2:width] = (0,255,0)

If you want to save yourself a lot of trouble in future, as well as having to ask questions such as this one, I would strongly recommend using the cv2 interface rather than the older cv one. I made the change recently and have never looked back. You can read more about cv2 at the OpenCV Change Logs.

Limiting Powershell Get-ChildItem by File Creation Date Range

Use Where-Object and test the $_.CreationTime:

Get-ChildItem 'PATH' -recurse -include @("*.tif*","*.jp2","*.pdf") |
    Where-Object { $_.CreationTime -ge "03/01/2013" -and $_.CreationTime -le "03/31/2013" }

Add key value pair to all objects in array

You can do this with map()

_x000D_
_x000D_
var arrOfObj = [{_x000D_
  name: 'eve'_x000D_
}, {_x000D_
  name: 'john'_x000D_
}, {_x000D_
  name: 'jane'_x000D_
}];_x000D_
_x000D_
var result = arrOfObj.map(function(o) {_x000D_
  o.isActive = true;_x000D_

})_x000D_
_x000D_
console.log(result)
_x000D_

Count the number of occurrences of a character in a string in Javascript

My solution:

Convert Enumeration to a Set/List

There is a simple example of convert enumeration to list. for this i used Collections.list(enum) method.

public class EnumerationToList {

    public static void main(String[] args) {
        Vector<String> vt = new Vector<String>();
        vt.add("java");
        vt.add("php");
        vt.add("array");
        vt.add("string");
        vt.add("c");

        Enumeration<String> enm = vt.elements();
        List<String> ll = Collections.list(enm);
        System.out.println("List elements: " + ll);
    }

}

Why isn't .ico file defined when setting window's icon?

No way what is suggested here works - the error "bitmap xxx not defined" is ever present. And yes, I set the correct path to it.

What it did work is this:

imgicon = PhotoImage(file=os.path.join(sp,'myicon.gif'))
root.tk.call('wm', 'iconphoto', root._w, imgicon)

where sp is the script path, and root the Tk root window.

It's hard to understand how it does work (I shamelessly copied it from fedoraforums) but it works

Can I scroll a ScrollView programmatically in Android?

There are a lot of good answers here, but I only want to add one thing. It sometimes happens that you want to scroll your ScrollView to a specific view of the layout, instead of a full scroll to the top or the bottom.

A simple example: in a registration form, if the user tap the "Signup" button when a edit text of the form is not filled, you want to scroll to that specific edit text to tell the user that he must fill that field.

In that case, you can do something like that:

scrollView.post(new Runnable() {
        public void run() {
             scrollView.scrollTo(0, editText.getBottom());
        }
});

or, if you want a smooth scroll instead of an instant scroll:

scrollView.post(new Runnable() {
            public void run() {
                 scrollView.smoothScrollTo(0, editText.getBottom());
            }
    });

Obviously you can use any type of view instead of Edit Text. Note that getBottom() returns the coordinates of the view based on its parent layout, so all the views used inside the ScrollView should have only a parent (for example a Linear Layout).

If you have multiple parents inside the child of the ScrollView, the only solution i've found is to call requestChildFocus on the parent view:

editText.getParent().requestChildFocus(editText, editText);

but in this case you cannot have a smooth scroll.

I hope this answer can help someone with the same problem.

JUnit test for System.out.println()

If the function is printing to System.out, you can capture that output by using the System.setOut method to change System.out to go to a PrintStream provided by you. If you create a PrintStream connected to a ByteArrayOutputStream, then you can capture the output as a String.

// Create a stream to hold the output
ByteArrayOutputStream baos = new ByteArrayOutputStream();
PrintStream ps = new PrintStream(baos);
// IMPORTANT: Save the old System.out!
PrintStream old = System.out;
// Tell Java to use your special stream
System.setOut(ps);
// Print some output: goes to your special stream
System.out.println("Foofoofoo!");
// Put things back
System.out.flush();
System.setOut(old);
// Show what happened
System.out.println("Here: " + baos.toString());

Adding rows to tbody of a table using jQuery

Here is an appendTo version using the html dropdown you mentioned. It inserts another row on "change".

$('#dropdown').on( 'change', function(e) {
    $('#table').append('<tr><td>COL1</td><td>COL2</td></tr>');
});

With an example for you to play with. Best of luck!

Set UILabel line spacing

Edit: Evidently NSAttributedString will do it, on iOS 6 and later. Instead of using an NSString to set the label's text, create an NSAttributedString, set attributes on it, then set it as the .attributedText on the label. The code you want will be something like this:

NSMutableAttributedString* attrString = [[NSMutableAttributedString  alloc] initWithString:@"Sample text"];
NSMutableParagraphStyle *style = [[NSMutableParagraphStyle alloc] init];
[style setLineSpacing:24];
[attrString addAttribute:NSParagraphStyleAttributeName
    value:style
    range:NSMakeRange(0, strLength)];
uiLabel.attributedText = attrString;

NSAttributedString's old attributedStringWithString did the same thing, but now that is being deprecated.

For historical reasons, here's my original answer:

Short answer: you can't. To change the spacing between lines of text, you will have to subclass UILabel and roll your own drawTextInRect, create multiple labels, or use a different font (perhaps one edited for a specific line height, see Phillipe's answer).

Long answer: In the print and online world, the space between lines of text is known as "leading" (rhymes with 'heading', and comes from the lead metal used decades ago). Leading is a read-only property of UIFont, which was deprecated in 4.0 and replaced by lineHeight. As far as I know, there's no way to create a font with a specific set of parameters such as lineHeight; you get the system fonts and any custom font you add, but can't tweak them once installed.

There is no spacing parameter in UILabel, either.

I'm not particularly happy with UILabel's behavior as is, so I suggest writing your own subclass or using a 3rd-party library. That will make the behavior independent of your font choice and be the most reusable solution.

I wish there was more flexibility in UILabel, and I'd be happy to be proven wrong!

Object creation on the stack/heap?

A)

Object* o;
o = new Object();

`` B)

Object* o = new Object();

I think A and B has no difference. In both the cases o is a pointer to class Object. statement new Object() creates an object of class Object from heap memory. Assignment statement assigns the address of allocated memory to pointer o.

One thing I would like to mention that size of allocated memory from heap is always the sizeof(Object) not sizeof(Object) + sizeof(void *).

Pandas left outer join multiple dataframes on multiple columns

Merge them in two steps, df1 and df2 first, and then the result of that to df3.

In [33]: s1 = pd.merge(df1, df2, how='left', on=['Year', 'Week', 'Colour'])

I dropped year from df3 since you don't need it for the last join.

In [39]: df = pd.merge(s1, df3[['Week', 'Colour', 'Val3']],
                       how='left', on=['Week', 'Colour'])

In [40]: df

1  2014    B    Red    60   NaN   60
2  2014    B  Black    70   100   10

How can I mock an ES6 module import using Jest?

Adding more to Andreas' answer. I had the same problem with ES6 code, but I did not want to mutate the imports. That looked hacky. So I did this:

import myModule from '../myModule';
import dependency from '../dependency';
jest.mock('../dependency');

describe('myModule', () => {
  it('calls the dependency with double the input', () => {
    myModule(2);
  });
});

And added file dependency.js in the " __ mocks __" folder parallel to file dependency.js. This worked for me. Also, this gave me the option to return suitable data from the mock implementation. Make sure you give the correct path to the module you want to mock.

Matrix multiplication using arrays

Try this,

public static Double[][] multiplicar(Double A[][],Double B[][]){
    Double[][] C= new Double[2][2];
    int i,j,k;
     for (i = 0; i < 2; i++) {
         for (j = 0; j < 2; j++) {
             C[i][j] = 0.00000;
         }
     }
    for(i=0;i<2;i++){
        for(j=0;j<2;j++){
            for (k=0;k<2;k++){
                  C[i][j]+=(A[i][k]*B[k][j]);

            }

        }
    }
    return C;
}

Android: making a fullscreen application

Update Answer I added android:windowIsTranslucent in case you have white screen in start of activity

just create new Style in values/styles.xml

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<resources>

    <style name="AppTheme" parent="Theme.AppCompat.NoActionBar">
    <!-- to hide white screen in start of window -->
    <item name="android:windowIsTranslucent">true</item>
    </style>

</resources>

from your AndroidManifest.xml add style to your activity

android:theme="@style/AppTheme"

to be like this

<activity android:name=".Splash"
            android:theme="@style/AppTheme">
            <intent-filter>
                <action android:name="android.intent.action.MAIN" />
                <category android:name="android.intent.category.LAUNCHER" />
            </intent-filter>
        </activity>

How to store a datetime in MySQL with timezone info

You said:

I want them to always come out as Tanzanian time and not in the local times that various collaborator are in.

If this is the case, then you should not use UTC. All you need to do is to use a DATETIME type in MySQL instead of a TIMESTAMP type.

From the MySQL documentation:

MySQL converts TIMESTAMP values from the current time zone to UTC for storage, and back from UTC to the current time zone for retrieval. (This does not occur for other types such as DATETIME.)

If you are already using a DATETIME type, then you must be not setting it by the local time to begin with. You'll need to focus less on the database, and more on your application code - which you didn't show here. The problem, and the solution, will vary drastically depending on language, so be sure to tag the question with the appropriate language of your application code.

How to get rid of punctuation using NLTK tokenizer?

I use this code to remove punctuation:

import nltk
def getTerms(sentences):
    tokens = nltk.word_tokenize(sentences)
    words = [w.lower() for w in tokens if w.isalnum()]
    print tokens
    print words

getTerms("hh, hh3h. wo shi 2 4 A . fdffdf. A&&B ")

And If you want to check whether a token is a valid English word or not, you may need PyEnchant

A Generic error occurred in GDI+ in Bitmap.Save method

I always check/test these:

  • Does the path + filename contain illegal characters for the given filesystem?
  • Does the file already exist? (Bad)
  • Does the path already exist? (Good)
  • If the path is relative: am I expecting it in the right parent directory (mostly bin/Debug ;-) )?
  • Is the path writable for the program and as which user does it run? (Services can be tricky here!)
  • Does the full path really, really not contain illegal chars? (some unicode chars are close to invisible)

I never had any problems with Bitmap.Save() apart from this list.

Throw away local commits in Git

If your excess commits are only visible to you, you can just do git reset --hard origin/<branch_name> to move back to where the origin is. This will reset the state of the repository to the previous commit, and it will discard all local changes.

Doing a git revert makes new commits to remove old commits in a way that keeps everyone's history sane.

dispatch_after - GCD in Swift?

Apple has a dispatch_after snippet for Objective-C:

dispatch_after(dispatch_time(DISPATCH_TIME_NOW, (int64_t)(<#delayInSeconds#> * NSEC_PER_SEC)), dispatch_get_main_queue(), ^{
    <#code to be executed after a specified delay#>
});

Here is the same snippet ported to Swift 3:

DispatchQueue.main.asyncAfter(deadline: DispatchTime.now() + <#delayInSeconds#>) {
  <#code to be executed after a specified delay#>
}

How to reformat JSON in Notepad++?

Notepad 5.8.7 and jsmin 1.7.0.0 works wonderful here.

Be careful though, found out jsmin eats the comments the hard way (should have read first).

Mean of a column in a data frame, given the column's name

I think what you are being asked to do (or perhaps asking yourself?) is take a character value which matches the name of a column in a particular dataframe (possibly also given as a character). There are two tricks here. Most people learn to extract columns with the "$" operator and that won't work inside a function if the function is passed a character vecor. If the function is also supposed to accept character argument then you will need to use the get function as well:

 df1 <- data.frame(a=1:10, b=11:20)
 mean_col <- function( dfrm, col ) mean( get(dfrm)[[ col ]] )
 mean_col("df1", "b")
 # [1] 15.5

There is sort of a semantic boundary between ordinary objects like character vectors and language objects like the names of objects. The get function is one of the functions that lets you "promote" character values to language level evaluation. And the "$" function will NOT evaluate its argument in a function, so you need to use"[[". "$" only is useful at the console level and needs to be completely avoided in functions.

Best way to store time (hh:mm) in a database

You could store it as an integer of the number of minutes past midnight:

eg.

0 = 00:00
60 = 01:00
252 = 04:12

You would however need to write some code to reconstitute the time, but that shouldn't be tricky.

Custom method names in ASP.NET Web API

See this article for a longer discussion of named actions. It also shows that you can use the [HttpGet] attribute instead of prefixing the action name with "get".

How to use Select2 with JSON via Ajax request?

Tthe problems may be caused by incorrect mapping. Are you sure you have your result set in "data"? In my example, the backend code returns results under "items" key, so the mapping should look like:

results: $.map(data.items, function (item) {
....
}

and not:

 results: $.map(data, function (item) {
    ....
    }

Java String declaration

First one will create new String object in heap and str will refer it. In addition literal will also be placed in String pool. It means 2 objects will be created and 1 reference variable.

Second option will create String literal in pool only and str will refer it. So only 1 Object will be created and 1 reference. This option will use the instance from String pool always rather than creating new one each time it is executed.

Get index of array element faster than O(n)

Taking a combination of @sawa's answer and the comment listed there you could implement a "quick" index and rindex on the array class.

class Array
  def quick_index el
    hash = Hash[self.map.with_index.to_a]
    hash[el]
  end

  def quick_rindex el
    hash = Hash[self.reverse.map.with_index.to_a]
    array.length - 1 - hash[el]
  end
end

Sourcetree - undo unpushed commits

If you want to delete a commit you can do it as part of an interactive rebase. But do it with caution, so you don't end up messing up your repo.

In Sourcetree:

  1. Right click a commit that's older than the one you want to delete, and choose "Rebase children of xxxx interactively...". The one you click will be your "base" and you can make changes to every commit made after that one.

Screenshot-1

  1. In the new window, select the commit you want gone, and press the "Delete"-button at the bottom, or right click the commit and click "Delete commit".
  2. List item
  3. Click "OK" (or "Cancel" if you want to abort).

Check out this Atlassian blog post for more on interactive rebasing in Sourcetree.

Portable way to check if directory exists [Windows/Linux, C]

You can use the GTK glib to abstract from OS stuff.

glib provides a g_dir_open() function which should do the trick.

How to wrap text in textview in Android

You must use 2 parameters :

  • android:ellipsize="none" : the text is not cut on textview width

  • android:scrollHorizontally="false" the text wraps on as many lines as necessary

Strip Leading and Trailing Spaces From Java String

To trim specific char, you can use:

String s = s.replaceAll("^(,|\\s)*|(,|\\s)*$", "")

Here will strip leading and trailing space and comma.

IOS: verify if a point is inside a rect

In objective c you can use CGRectContainsPoint(yourview.frame, touchpoint)

-(void)touchesBegan:(NSSet<UITouch *> *)touches withEvent:(UIEvent *)event{
UITouch* touch = [touches anyObject];
CGPoint touchpoint = [touch locationInView:self.view];
if( CGRectContainsPoint(yourview.frame, touchpoint) ) {

}else{

}}

In swift 3 yourview.frame.contains(touchpoint)

 override func touchesBegan(_ touches: Set<UITouch>, with event: UIEvent?) {
    let touch:UITouch = touches.first!
    let touchpoint:CGPoint = touch.location(in: self.view)
    if wheel.frame.contains(touchpoint)  {

    }else{

    }

}

How to redirect and append both stdout and stderr to a file with Bash?

Try this

You_command 1>output.log  2>&1

Your usage of &>x.file does work in bash4. sorry for that : (

Here comes some additional tips.

0, 1, 2...9 are file descriptors in bash.

0 stands for stdin, 1 stands for stdout, 2 stands for stderror. 3~9 is spare for any other temporary usage.

Any file descriptor can be redirected to other file descriptor or file by using operator > or >>(append).

Usage: <file_descriptor> > <filename | &file_descriptor>

Check if an object belongs to a class in Java

If you ever need to do this dynamically, you can use the following:

boolean isInstance(Object object, Class<?> type) {
    return type.isInstance(object);
}

You can get an instance of java.lang.Class by calling the instance method Object::getClass on any object (returns the Class which that object is an instance of), or you can do class literals (for example, String.class, List.class, int[].class). There are other ways as well, through the reflection API (which Class itself is the entry point for).

SQL Error: ORA-00922: missing or invalid option

You should not use space character while naming database objects. Even though it's possible by using double quotes(quoted identifiers), CREATE TABLE "chartered flight" ..., it's not recommended. Take a closer look here

How to create a secure random AES key in Java?

I would use your suggested code, but with a slight simplification:

KeyGenerator keyGen = KeyGenerator.getInstance("AES");
keyGen.init(256); // for example
SecretKey secretKey = keyGen.generateKey();

Let the provider select how it plans to obtain randomness - don't define something that may not be as good as what the provider has already selected.

This code example assumes (as Maarten points out below) that you've configured your java.security file to include your preferred provider at the top of the list. If you want to manually specify the provider, just call KeyGenerator.getInstance("AES", "providerName");.

For a truly secure key, you need to be using a hardware security module (HSM) to generate and protect the key. HSM manufacturers will typically supply a JCE provider that will do all the key generation for you, using the code above.

Can Google Chrome open local links?

Hopefully this helps others in an enterprise setting looking for a solution. My solution after much tinkering was the following:

Follow the steps in the following link to install legacy browser extension and gpo settings: https://support.google.com/chrome/a/answer/3019558?hl=en&ref_topic=3062034

Enabled legacy browser redirect for "file://" through chrome gpo configuration Google Chrome -> Legacy Browser Support -> "Websites to open in alternative browser"

Configure gpo to also install extension: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/enable-local-file-links/nikfmfgobenbhmocjaaboihbeocackld that redirects file:// links to bypass chrome file:// link block.

The extension opens the links which then triggers google chrome to open the link in internet explorer. The result is IE opens a window, then opens the file/folder for the user, then IE closes itself.
