Programs & Examples On #Jcaps

Java Composite Application Platform Suite (or JCAPS) is Sun Microsystem software suite for service-oriented application architecture.

Is it possible to set ENV variables for rails development environment in my code?

The system environment and rails' environment are different things. ENV let's you work with the rails' environment, but if what you want to do is to change the system's environment in runtime you can just surround the command with backticks.

# ruby code
`export admin_password="secret"`
# more ruby code

How do you clear the focus in javascript?

document.activeElement.blur();

Works wrong on IE9 - it blurs the whole browser window if active element is document body. Better to check for this case:

if (document.activeElement != document.body) document.activeElement.blur();

What is the Python equivalent for a case/switch statement?

While the official docs are happy not to provide switch, I have seen a solution using dictionaries.

For example:

# define the function blocks
def zero():
    print "You typed zero.\n"

def sqr():
    print "n is a perfect square\n"

def even():
    print "n is an even number\n"

def prime():
    print "n is a prime number\n"

# map the inputs to the function blocks
options = {0 : zero,
           1 : sqr,
           4 : sqr,
           9 : sqr,
           2 : even,
           3 : prime,
           5 : prime,
           7 : prime,
}

Then the equivalent switch block is invoked:

options[num]()

This begins to fall apart if you heavily depend on fall through.

How to make a deep copy of Java ArrayList

Cloning the objects before adding them. For example, instead of newList.addAll(oldList);

for(Person p : oldList) {
    newList.add(p.clone());
}

Assuming clone is correctly overriden inPerson.

Windows Batch Files: if else

Another related tip is to use "%~1" instead of "%1". Type "CALL /?" at the command line in Windows to get more details.

Least common multiple for 3 or more numbers

clc;

data = [1 2 3 4 5]

LCM=1;

for i=1:1:length(data)

    LCM = lcm(LCM,data(i))

end

Generating HTML email body in C#

You can use the MailDefinition class.

This is how you use it:

MailDefinition md = new MailDefinition();
md.From = "[email protected]";
md.IsBodyHtml = true;
md.Subject = "Test of MailDefinition";

ListDictionary replacements = new ListDictionary();
replacements.Add("{name}", "Martin");
replacements.Add("{country}", "Denmark");

string body = "<div>Hello {name} You're from {country}.</div>";

MailMessage msg = md.CreateMailMessage("[email protected]", replacements, body, new System.Web.UI.Control());

Also, I've written a blog post on how to generate HTML e-mail body in C# using templates using the MailDefinition class.

how to upload a file to my server using html

<form id="uploadbanner" enctype="multipart/form-data" method="post" action="#">
   <input id="fileupload" name="myfile" type="file" />
   <input type="submit" value="submit" id="submit" />
</form>

To upload a file, it is essential to set enctype="multipart/form-data" on your form

You need that form type and then some php to process the file :)

You should probably check out Uploadify if you want something very customisable out of the box.

Find an object in SQL Server (cross-database)

sp_MSforeachdb 'select db_name(), * From ?..sysobjects where xtype in (''U'', ''P'') And name = ''ObjectName'''

Instead of 'ObjectName' insert object you are looking for. First column will display name of database where object is located at.

Is it possible to pull just one file in Git?

You can fetch and then check out only one file in this way:

git fetch
git checkout -m <revision> <yourfilepath>
git add <yourfilepath>
git commit

Regarding the git checkout command:

  • <revision> -- a branch name, i.e. origin/master
  • <yourfilepath> does not include the repository name (that you can get from clicking copy path button on a file page on GitHub), i.e. README.md

jQuery checkbox event handling

Using the new 'on' method in jQuery (1.7): http://api.jquery.com/on/

    $('#myform').on('change', 'input[type=checkbox]', function(e) {
        console.log(this.name+' '+this.value+' '+this.checked);

    });
  • the event handler will live on
  • will capture if the checkbox was changed by keyboard, not just click

Function to Calculate Median in SQL Server

I just came across this page while looking for a set based solution to median. After looking at some of the solutions here, I came up with the following. Hope is helps/works.

DECLARE @test TABLE(

How can I embed a YouTube video on GitHub wiki pages?

It's not possible to embed videos directly, but you can put an image which links to a YouTube video:

[![IMAGE ALT TEXT HERE](https://img.youtube.com/vi/YOUTUBE_VIDEO_ID_HERE/0.jpg)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YOUTUBE_VIDEO_ID_HERE)

How to download a file from a URL in C#?

You may need to know the status and update a ProgressBar during the file download or use credentials before making the request.

Here it is, an example that covers these options. Lambda notation and String interpolation has been used:

using System.Net;
// ...

using (WebClient client = new WebClient()) {
    Uri ur = new Uri("http://remotehost.do/images/img.jpg");

    //client.Credentials = new NetworkCredential("username", "password");
    String credentials = Convert.ToBase64String(Encoding.ASCII.GetBytes("Username" + ":" + "MyNewPassword"));
    client.Headers[HttpRequestHeader.Authorization] = $"Basic {credentials}";

    client.DownloadProgressChanged += (o, e) =>
    {
        Console.WriteLine($"Download status: {e.ProgressPercentage}%.");

        // updating the UI
        Dispatcher.Invoke(() => {
            progressBar.Value = e.ProgressPercentage;
        });
    };

    client.DownloadDataCompleted += (o, e) =>
    {
        Console.WriteLine("Download finished!");
    };

    client.DownloadFileAsync(ur, @"C:\path\newImage.jpg");
}

Maven: add a dependency to a jar by relative path

This is working for me: Let's say I have this dependency

<dependency>
    <groupId>com.company.app</groupId>
    <artifactId>my-library</artifactId>
    <version>1.0</version>
    <scope>system</scope>
    <systemPath>${project.basedir}/lib/my-library.jar</systemPath>
</dependency>

Then, add the class-path for your system dependency manually like this

<Class-Path>libs/my-library-1.0.jar</Class-Path>

Full config:

How to check variable type at runtime in Go language

See type assertions here:

http://golang.org/ref/spec#Type_assertions

I'd assert a sensible type (string, uint64) etc only and keep it as loose as possible, performing a conversion to the native type last.

How do check if a PHP session is empty?

The best practice is to check if the array key exists using the built-in array_key_exists function.

How do I get Month and Date of JavaScript in 2 digit format?

This was my solution:

function leadingZero(value) {
  if (value < 10) {
    return "0" + value.toString();
  }
  return value.toString();
}

var targetDate = new Date();
targetDate.setDate(targetDate.getDate());
var dd = targetDate.getDate();
var mm = targetDate.getMonth() + 1;
var yyyy = targetDate.getFullYear();
var dateCurrent = leadingZero(mm) + "/" + leadingZero(dd) + "/" + yyyy;

How to restart Activity in Android

This is by far the easiest way to restart the current activity:

finish();
startActivity(getIntent());

Excel- compare two cell from different sheet, if true copy value from other cell

In your destination field you want to use VLOOKUP like so:

=VLOOKUP(Sheet1!A1:A100,Sheet2!A1:F100,6,FALSE)

VLOOKUP Arguments:

  1. The set fields you want to lookup.
  2. The table range you want to lookup up your value against. The first column of your defined table should be the column you want compared against your lookup field. The table range should also contain the value you want to display (Column F).
  3. This defines what field you want to display upon a match.
  4. FALSE tells VLOOKUP to do an exact match.

JavaScript error (Uncaught SyntaxError: Unexpected end of input)

I also got this error pointing to the end of the last script block on a page, only to realize the error was actually from clicking on an element with a onclick="pagename" instead of onclick="window.location='pagename'". It's not always a missing bracket!

Javascript Print iframe contents only

I would not expect that to work

try instead

window.frames["printf"].focus();
window.frames["printf"].print();

and use

<iframe id="printf" name="printf"></iframe>

Alternatively try good old

var newWin = window.frames["printf"];
newWin.document.write('<body onload="window.print()">dddd</body>');
newWin.document.close();

if jQuery cannot hack it

Live Demo

What's the difference between subprocess Popen and call (how can I use them)?

The other answer is very complete, but here is a rule of thumb:

  • call is blocking:

    call('notepad.exe')
    print('hello') # only executed when notepad is closed

  • Popen is non-blocking:

    Popen('notepad.exe')
    print('hello')  # immediately executed

How to pass ArrayList<CustomeObject> from one activity to another?

you need implements Parcelable in your ContactBean class, I put one example for you:

public class ContactClass implements Parcelable {

private String id;
private String photo;
private String firstname;
private String lastname;

public ContactClass()
{

}

private ContactClass(Parcel in) {
    firstname = in.readString();
    lastname = in.readString();
    photo = in.readString();
    id = in.readString();

}

@Override
public int describeContents() {
    // TODO Auto-generated method stub
    return 0;
}

@Override
public void writeToParcel(Parcel dest, int flags) {

    dest.writeString(firstname);
    dest.writeString(lastname);
    dest.writeString(photo);
    dest.writeString(id);

}

 public static final Parcelable.Creator<ContactClass> CREATOR = new Parcelable.Creator<ContactClass>() {
        public ContactClass createFromParcel(Parcel in) {
            return new ContactClass(in);
        }

        public ContactClass[] newArray(int size) {
            return new ContactClass[size];

        }
    };

   // all get , set method
 }

and this get and set for your code:

Intent intent = new Intent(this,DisplayContact.class);
intent.putExtra("Contact_list", ContactLis);
startActivity(intent);

second class:

ArrayList<ContactClass> myList = getIntent().getParcelableExtra("Contact_list");

How can I use Guzzle to send a POST request in JSON?

return $response->getBody();

Insert HTML from CSS

No you cannot. The only thing you can do is to insert content. Like so:

p:after {
    content: "yo";
}

Access files stored on Amazon S3 through web browser

You can use a bucket policy to give anonymous users full read access to your objects. Depending on whether you need them to LIST or just perform a GET, you'll want to tweak this. (I.e. permissions for listing the contents of a bucket have the action set to "s3:ListBucket").

http://docs.aws.amazon.com/AmazonS3/latest/dev/AccessPolicyLanguage_UseCases_s3_a.html

Your policy will look something like the following. You can use the S3 console at http://aws.amazon.com/console to upload it.

 {
  "Version":"2008-10-17",
  "Statement":[{
    "Sid":"AddPerm",
      "Effect":"Allow",
      "Principal": {
            "AWS": "*"
         },
      "Action":["s3:GetObject"],
      "Resource":["arn:aws:s3:::bucket/*"
      ]
    }
  ]
}

If you're truly opening up your objects to the world, you'll want to look into setting up CloudWatch rules on your billing so you can shut off permissions to your objects if they become too popular.

Function for Factorial in Python

For performance reasons, please do not use recursion. It would be disastrous.

def fact(n, total=1):
    while True:
        if n == 1:
            return total
        n, total = n - 1, total * n

Check running results

cProfile.run('fact(126000)')

4 function calls in 5.164 seconds

Using the stack is convenient(like recursive call), but it comes at a cost: storing detailed information can take up a lot of memory.

If the stack is high, it means that the computer stores a lot of information about function calls.

The method only takes up constant memory(like iteration).

Or Using for loop

def fact(n):
    result = 1
    for i in range(2, n + 1):
        result *= i
    return result

Check running results

cProfile.run('fact(126000)')

4 function calls in 4.708 seconds

Or Using builtin function math

def fact(n):
    return math.factorial(n)

Check running results

cProfile.run('fact(126000)')

5 function calls in 0.272 seconds

how to view the contents of a .pem certificate

An alternative to using keytool, you can use the command

openssl x509 -in certificate.pem -text

This should work for any x509 .pem file provided you have openssl installed.

Expected response code 250 but got code "530", with message "530 5.7.1 Authentication required

I see you have all the settings right. You just need to end the local web server and start it again with

php artisan serve

Everytime you change your .env file, you need tor restart the server for the new options to take effect.

Or clear and cache your configuration with

php artisan config:cache

How to pass object from one component to another in Angular 2?

you could also store your data in an service with an setter and get it over a getter

import { Injectable } from '@angular/core';

@Injectable()
export class StorageService {

    public scope: Array<any> | boolean = false;

    constructor() {
    }

    public getScope(): Array<any> | boolean {

    }

    public setScope(scope: any): void {
        this.scope = scope;
    }
}

How can I convert this one line of ActionScript to C#?

There is collection of Func<...> classes - Func that is probably what you are looking for:

 void MyMethod(Func<int> param1 = null)

This defines method that have parameter param1 with default value null (similar to AS), and a function that returns int. Unlike AS in C# you need to specify type of the function's arguments.

So if you AS usage was

MyMethod(function(intArg, stringArg) { return true; })

Than in C# it would require param1 to be of type Func<int, siring, bool> and usage like

MyMethod( (intArg, stringArg) => { return true;} );

How to detect a loop in a linked list?

// linked list find loop function

int findLoop(struct Node* head)
{
    struct Node* slow = head, *fast = head;
    while(slow && fast && fast->next)
    {
        slow = slow->next;
        fast = fast->next->next;
        if(slow == fast)
            return 1;
    }
 return 0;
}

Sending and receiving data over a network using TcpClient

First, I recommend that you use WCF, .NET Remoting, or some other higher-level communication abstraction. The learning curve for "simple" sockets is nearly as high as WCF, because there are so many non-obvious pitfalls when using TCP/IP directly.

If you decide to continue down the TCP/IP path, then review my .NET TCP/IP FAQ, particularly the sections on message framing and application protocol specifications.

Also, use asynchronous socket APIs. The synchronous APIs do not scale and in some error situations may cause deadlocks. The synchronous APIs make for pretty little example code, but real-world production-quality code uses the asynchronous APIs.

Convert URL to File or Blob for FileReader.readAsDataURL

This information is outdated as of now, but cannot be deleted.

  1. You can create File instances just by specifying a path when your code is chrome-privileged:

    new File("/path/to/file");

    File is a sub-class of Blob, so all File instances are also valid Blobs. Please note that this requires a platform path, and not a file URL.

  2. Yes, FileReader is available to addons.

File and FileReader are available in all windows. If you want to use them in a non-window scope (like bootstrap.js or a code module), you may use nsIDOMFile/nsIDOMFileReader.

How can I disable an <option> in a <select> based on its value in JavaScript?

For some reason other answers are unnecessarily complex, it's easy to do it in one line in pure JavaScript:

Array.prototype.find.call(selectElement.options, o => o.value === optionValue).disabled = true;

or

selectElement.querySelector('option[value="'+optionValue.replace(/["\\]/g, '\\$&')+'"]').disabled = true;

The performance depends on the number of the options (the more the options, the slower the first one) and whether you can omit the escaping (the replace call) from the second one. Also the first one uses Array.find and arrow functions that are not available in IE11.

Dynamic tabs with user-click chosen components

update

Angular 5 StackBlitz example

update

ngComponentOutlet was added to 4.0.0-beta.3

update

There is a NgComponentOutlet work in progress that does something similar https://github.com/angular/angular/pull/11235

RC.7

Plunker example RC.7

// Helper component to add dynamic components
@Component({
  selector: 'dcl-wrapper',
  template: `<div #target></div>`
})
export class DclWrapper {
  @ViewChild('target', {read: ViewContainerRef}) target: ViewContainerRef;
  @Input() type: Type<Component>;
  cmpRef: ComponentRef<Component>;
  private isViewInitialized:boolean = false;

  constructor(private componentFactoryResolver: ComponentFactoryResolver, private compiler: Compiler) {}

  updateComponent() {
    if(!this.isViewInitialized) {
      return;
    }
    if(this.cmpRef) {
      // when the `type` input changes we destroy a previously
      // created component before creating the new one
      this.cmpRef.destroy();
    }

    let factory = this.componentFactoryResolver.resolveComponentFactory(this.type);
    this.cmpRef = this.target.createComponent(factory)
    // to access the created instance use
    // this.compRef.instance.someProperty = 'someValue';
    // this.compRef.instance.someOutput.subscribe(val => doSomething());
  }

  ngOnChanges() {
    this.updateComponent();
  }

  ngAfterViewInit() {
    this.isViewInitialized = true;
    this.updateComponent();
  }

  ngOnDestroy() {
    if(this.cmpRef) {
      this.cmpRef.destroy();
    }
  }
}

Usage example

// Use dcl-wrapper component
@Component({
  selector: 'my-tabs',
  template: `
  <h2>Tabs</h2>
  <div *ngFor="let tab of tabs">
    <dcl-wrapper [type]="tab"></dcl-wrapper>
  </div>
`
})
export class Tabs {
  @Input() tabs;
}
@Component({
  selector: 'my-app',
  template: `
  <h2>Hello {{name}}</h2>
  <my-tabs [tabs]="types"></my-tabs>
`
})
export class App {
  // The list of components to create tabs from
  types = [C3, C1, C2, C3, C3, C1, C1];
}
@NgModule({
  imports: [ BrowserModule ],
  declarations: [ App, DclWrapper, Tabs, C1, C2, C3],
  entryComponents: [C1, C2, C3],
  bootstrap: [ App ]
})
export class AppModule {}

See also angular.io DYNAMIC COMPONENT LOADER

older versions xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

This changed again in Angular2 RC.5

I will update the example below but it's the last day before vacation.

This Plunker example demonstrates how to dynamically create components in RC.5

Update - use ViewContainerRef.createComponent()

Because DynamicComponentLoader is deprecated, the approach needs to be update again.

@Component({
  selector: 'dcl-wrapper',
  template: `<div #target></div>`
})
export class DclWrapper {
  @ViewChild('target', {read: ViewContainerRef}) target;
  @Input() type;
  cmpRef:ComponentRef;
  private isViewInitialized:boolean = false;

  constructor(private resolver: ComponentResolver) {}

  updateComponent() {
    if(!this.isViewInitialized) {
      return;
    }
    if(this.cmpRef) {
      this.cmpRef.destroy();
    }
   this.resolver.resolveComponent(this.type).then((factory:ComponentFactory<any>) => {
      this.cmpRef = this.target.createComponent(factory)
      // to access the created instance use
      // this.compRef.instance.someProperty = 'someValue';
      // this.compRef.instance.someOutput.subscribe(val => doSomething());
    });
  }

  ngOnChanges() {
    this.updateComponent();
  }

  ngAfterViewInit() {
    this.isViewInitialized = true;
    this.updateComponent();
  }

  ngOnDestroy() {
    if(this.cmpRef) {
      this.cmpRef.destroy();
    }
  }
}

Plunker example RC.4
Plunker example beta.17

Update - use loadNextToLocation

export class DclWrapper {
  @ViewChild('target', {read: ViewContainerRef}) target;
  @Input() type;
  cmpRef:ComponentRef;
  private isViewInitialized:boolean = false;

  constructor(private dcl:DynamicComponentLoader) {}

  updateComponent() {
    // should be executed every time `type` changes but not before `ngAfterViewInit()` was called
    // to have `target` initialized
    if(!this.isViewInitialized) {
      return;
    }
    if(this.cmpRef) {
      this.cmpRef.destroy();
    }
    this.dcl.loadNextToLocation(this.type, this.target).then((cmpRef) => {
      this.cmpRef = cmpRef;
    });
  }

  ngOnChanges() {
    this.updateComponent();
  }

  ngAfterViewInit() {
    this.isViewInitialized = true;

Not entirely sure from your question what your requirements are but I think this should do what you want.

The Tabs component gets an array of types passed and it creates "tabs" for each item in the array.

@Component({
  selector: 'dcl-wrapper',
  template: `<div #target></div>`
})
export class DclWrapper {
  constructor(private elRef:ElementRef, private dcl:DynamicComponentLoader) {}
  @Input() type;

  ngOnChanges() {
    if(this.cmpRef) {
      this.cmpRef.dispose();
    }
    this.dcl.loadIntoLocation(this.type, this.elRef, 'target').then((cmpRef) => {
      this.cmpRef = cmpRef;
    });
  }
}

@Component({
  selector: 'c1',
  template: `<h2>c1</h2>`

})
export class C1 {
}

@Component({
  selector: 'c2',
  template: `<h2>c2</h2>`

})
export class C2 {
}

@Component({
  selector: 'c3',
  template: `<h2>c3</h2>`

})
export class C3 {
}

@Component({
  selector: 'my-tabs',
  directives: [DclWrapper],
  template: `
  <h2>Tabs</h2>
  <div *ngFor="let tab of tabs">
    <dcl-wrapper [type]="tab"></dcl-wrapper>
  </div>
`
})
export class Tabs {
  @Input() tabs;
}

@Component({
  selector: 'my-app',
  directives: [Tabs]
  template: `
  <h2>Hello {{name}}</h2>
  <my-tabs [tabs]="types"></my-tabs>
`
})
export class App {
  types = [C3, C1, C2, C3, C3, C1, C1];
}

Plunker example beta.15 (not based on your Plunker)

There is also a way to pass data along that can be passed to the dynamically created component like (someData would need to be passed like type)

    this.dcl.loadIntoLocation(this.type, this.elRef, 'target').then((cmpRef) => {
  cmpRef.instance.someProperty = someData;
  this.cmpRef = cmpRef;
});

There is also some support to use dependency injection with shared services.

Display a message in Visual Studio's output window when not debug mode?

This whole thread confused the h#$l out of me until I realized you have to be running the debugger to see ANY trace or debug output. I needed a debug output (outside of the debugger) because my WebApp runs fine when I debug it but not when the debugger isn't running (SqlDataSource is instantiated correctly when running through the debugger).

Just because debug output can be seen when you're running in release mode doesn't mean you'll see anything if you're not running the debugger. Careful reading of Writing to output window of Visual Studio? gave me DebugView as an alternative. Extremely useful!

Hopefully this helps anyone else confused by this.

C non-blocking keyboard input

As already stated, you can use sigaction to trap ctrl-c, or select to trap any standard input.

Note however that with the latter method you also need to set the TTY so that it's in character-at-a-time rather than line-at-a-time mode. The latter is the default - if you type in a line of text it doesn't get sent to the running program's stdin until you press enter.

You'd need to use the tcsetattr() function to turn off ICANON mode, and probably also disable ECHO too. From memory, you also have to set the terminal back into ICANON mode when the program exits!

Just for completeness, here's some code I've just knocked up (nb: no error checking!) which sets up a Unix TTY and emulates the DOS <conio.h> functions kbhit() and getch():

#include <stdlib.h>
#include <string.h>
#include <unistd.h>
#include <sys/select.h>
#include <termios.h>

struct termios orig_termios;

void reset_terminal_mode()
{
    tcsetattr(0, TCSANOW, &orig_termios);
}

void set_conio_terminal_mode()
{
    struct termios new_termios;

    /* take two copies - one for now, one for later */
    tcgetattr(0, &orig_termios);
    memcpy(&new_termios, &orig_termios, sizeof(new_termios));

    /* register cleanup handler, and set the new terminal mode */
    atexit(reset_terminal_mode);
    cfmakeraw(&new_termios);
    tcsetattr(0, TCSANOW, &new_termios);
}

int kbhit()
{
    struct timeval tv = { 0L, 0L };
    fd_set fds;
    FD_ZERO(&fds);
    FD_SET(0, &fds);
    return select(1, &fds, NULL, NULL, &tv);
}

int getch()
{
    int r;
    unsigned char c;
    if ((r = read(0, &c, sizeof(c))) < 0) {
        return r;
    } else {
        return c;
    }
}

int main(int argc, char *argv[])
{
    set_conio_terminal_mode();

    while (!kbhit()) {
        /* do some work */
    }
    (void)getch(); /* consume the character */
}

Landscape printing from HTML

In your CSS you can set the @page property as shown below.

@media print{@page {size: landscape}}

The @page is part of CSS 2.1 specification however this size is not as highlighted by the answer to the question Is @Page { size:landscape} obsolete?:

CSS 2.1 no longer specifies the size attribute. The current working draft for CSS3 Paged Media module does specify it (but this is not standard or accepted).

As stated the size option comes from the CSS 3 Draft Specification. In theory it can be set to both a page size and orientation although in my sample the size is omitted.

The support is very mixed with a bug report begin filed in firefox, most browsers do not support it.

It may seem to work in IE7 but this is because IE7 will remember the users last selection of landscape or portrait in print preview (only the browser is re-started).

This article does have some suggested work arounds using JavaScript or ActiveX that send keys to the users browser although it they are not ideal and rely on changing the browsers security settings.

Alternately you could rotate the content rather than the page orientation. This can be done by creating a style and applying it to the body that includes these two lines but this also has draw backs creating many alignment and layout issues.

<style type="text/css" media="print">
    .page
    {
     -webkit-transform: rotate(-90deg);
     -moz-transform:rotate(-90deg);
     filter:progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.BasicImage(rotation=3);
    }
</style>

The final alternative I have found is to create a landscape version in a PDF. You can point to so when the user selects print it prints the PDF. However I could not get this to auto print work in IE7.

<link media="print" rel="Alternate" href="print.pdf">

In conclusion in some browsers it is relativity easy using the @page size option however in many browsers there is no sure way and it would depend on your content and environment. This maybe why Google Documents creates a PDF when print is selected and then allows the user to open and print that.

Variables within app.config/web.config

For rolling out products where we need to configure a lot of items with similar values, we use small console apps that read the XML and update based on the parameters passed in. These are then called by the installer after it has asked the user for the required information.

Detecting Back Button/Hash Change in URL

Use the jQuery hashchange event plugin instead. Regarding your full ajax navigation, try to have SEO friendly ajax. Otherwise your pages shown nothing in browsers with JavaScript limitations.

Creating a folder if it does not exists - "Item already exists"

I was not even concentrating, here is how to do it

$DOCDIR = [Environment]::GetFolderPath("MyDocuments")
$TARGETDIR = '$DOCDIR\MatchedLog'
if(!(Test-Path -Path $TARGETDIR )){
    New-Item -ItemType directory -Path $TARGETDIR
}

Why does jQuery or a DOM method such as getElementById not find the element?

If script execution order is not the issue, another possible cause of the problem is that the element is not being selected properly:

  • getElementById requires the passed string to be the ID verbatim, and nothing else. If you prefix the passed string with a #, and the ID does not start with a #, nothing will be selected:

      <div id="foo"></div>

      // Error, selected element will be null:
      document.getElementById('#foo')
      // Fix:
      document.getElementById('foo')

  • Similarly, for getElementsByClassName, don't prefix the passed string with a .:

      <div class="bar"></div>

      // Error, selected element will be undefined:
      document.getElementsByClassName('.bar')[0]
      // Fix:
      document.getElementsByClassName('bar')[0]

  • With querySelector, querySelectorAll, and jQuery, to match an element with a particular class name, put a . directly before the class. Similarly, to match an element with a particular ID, put a # directly before the ID:

      <div class="baz"></div>

      // Error, selected element will be null:
      document.querySelector('baz')
      $('baz')
      // Fix:
      document.querySelector('.baz')
      $('.baz')

    The rules here are, in most cases, identical to those for CSS selectors, and can be seen in detail here.

  • To match an element which has two or more attributes (like two class names, or a class name and a data- attribute), put the selectors for each attribute next to each other in the selector string, without a space separating them (because a space indicates the descendant selector). For example, to select:

      <div class="foo bar"></div>

    use the query string .foo.bar. To select

      <div class="foo" data-bar="someData"></div>

    use the query string .foo[data-bar="someData"]. To select the <span> below:

      <div class="parent">
        <span data-username="bob"></span>
      </div>

    use div.parent > span[data-username="bob"].

  • Capitalization and spelling does matter for all of the above. If the capitalization is different, or the spelling is different, the element will not be selected:

      <div class="result"></div>

      // Error, selected element will be null:
      document.querySelector('.results')
      $('.Result')
      // Fix:
      document.querySelector('.result')
      $('.result')

  • You also need to make sure the methods have the proper capitalization and spelling. Use one of:

    $(selector)
    document.querySelector
    document.querySelectorAll
    document.getElementsByClassName
    document.getElementsByTagName
    document.getElementById

    Any other spelling or capitalization will not work. For example, document.getElementByClassName will throw an error.

  • Make sure you pass a string to these selector methods. If you pass something that isn't a string to querySelector, getElementById, etc, it almost certainly won't work.

  • If the HTML attributes on elements you want to select are surrounded by quotes, they must be plain straight quotes (either single or double); curly quotes like or will not work if you're trying to select by ID, class, or attribute.

Why do I need to do `--set-upstream` all the time?

A shortcut, which doesn't depend on remembering the syntax for git branch --set-upstream 1 is to do:

git push -u origin my_branch

... the first time that you push that branch. Or, to push to the current branch to a branch of the same name (handy for an alias):

git push -u origin HEAD

You only need to use -u once, and that sets up the association between your branch and the one at origin in the same way as git branch --set-upstream does.

Personally, I think it's a good thing to have to set up that association between your branch and one on the remote explicitly. It's just a shame that the rules are different for git push and git pull.

1 It may sound silly, but I very frequently forget to specify the current branch, assuming that's the default - it's not, and the results are most confusing :)

Update 2012-10-11: Apparently I'm not the only person who found it easy to get wrong! Thanks to VonC for pointing out that git 1.8.0 introduces the more obvious git branch --set-upstream-to, which can be used as follows, if you're on the branch my_branch:

git branch --set-upstream-to origin/my_branch

... or with the short option:

git branch -u origin/my_branch

This change, and its reasoning, is described in the release notes for git 1.8.0, release candidate 1:

It was tempting to say git branch --set-upstream origin/master, but that tells Git to arrange the local branch origin/master to integrate with the currently checked out branch, which is highly unlikely what the user meant. The option is deprecated; use the new --set-upstream-to (with a short-and-sweet -u) option instead.

How to change the default port of mysql from 3306 to 3360

Hope this would help many one.

Visual Studio build fails: unable to copy exe-file from obj\debug to bin\debug

When I faced a similar issue, the only thing that seemed to work was:

  • Right click the project, going to Settings, and making sure that both Debug and Release builds target the same settings, or have the settings in there that the application tries to load or save.
  • Deleting the C:\Users(YourUserAccount)\AppData\Local(YourAppName) folder.
  • Making sure that no files that I had in there were considered "Blocked". Right-clicking my project's included files, I realized that one icon was actually blocked and considered bad because it was downloaded from the internet. I had to click the Unblock button (in example, check this out: http://devierkoeden.com/Images/Articles/Dynamicweb/CustomModules/Part1/BlockedFiles.png - "This file came from another computer and might be blocked to help protect this computer.").

What is the Regular Expression For "Not Whitespace and Not a hyphen"

[^\s-]

should work and so will

[^-\s]
  • [] : The char class
  • ^ : Inside the char class ^ is the negator when it appears in the beginning.
  • \s : short for a white space
  • - : a literal hyphen. A hyphen is a meta char inside a char class but not when it appears in the beginning or at the end.

How can I select all rows with sqlalchemy?

I use the following snippet to view all the rows in a table. Use a query to find all the rows. The returned objects are the class instances. They can be used to view/edit the values as required:

from sqlalchemy.ext.declarative import declarative_base
from sqlalchemy import create_engine, Sequence
from sqlalchemy import String, Integer, Float, Boolean, Column
from sqlalchemy.orm import sessionmaker

Base = declarative_base()

class MyTable(Base):
    __tablename__ = 'MyTable'
    id = Column(Integer, Sequence('user_id_seq'), primary_key=True)
    some_col = Column(String(500))

    def __init__(self, some_col):
        self.some_col = some_col

engine = create_engine('sqlite:///sqllight.db', echo=True)
Session = sessionmaker(bind=engine)
session = Session()

for class_instance in session.query(MyTable).all():
    print(vars(class_instance))

session.close()

How to create a Java cron job

After that, in unix, you run this command "crontab -e" to edit crontab script. In order to configure crontab, please refer to this article http://www.thegeekstuff.com/2009/06/15-practical-crontab-examples/

Save your crontab setting. Then wait for the time to come, program will run automatically.

Conversion of Char to Binary in C

We show up two functions that prints a SINGLE character to binary.

void printbinchar(char character)
{
    char output[9];
    itoa(character, output, 2);
    printf("%s\n", output);
}

printbinchar(10) will write into the console

    1010

itoa is a library function that converts a single integer value to a string with the specified base. For example... itoa(1341, output, 10) will write in output string "1341". And of course itoa(9, output, 2) will write in the output string "1001".

The next function will print into the standard output the full binary representation of a character, that is, it will print all 8 bits, also if the higher bits are zero.

void printbincharpad(char c)
{
    for (int i = 7; i >= 0; --i)
    {
        putchar( (c & (1 << i)) ? '1' : '0' );
    }
    putchar('\n');
}

printbincharpad(10) will write into the console

    00001010

Now i present a function that prints out an entire string (without last null character).

void printstringasbinary(char* s)
{
    // A small 9 characters buffer we use to perform the conversion
    char output[9];

    // Until the first character pointed by s is not a null character
    // that indicates end of string...
    while (*s)
    {
        // Convert the first character of the string to binary using itoa.
        // Characters in c are just 8 bit integers, at least, in noawdays computers.
        itoa(*s, output, 2);

        // print out our string and let's write a new line.
        puts(output);

        // we advance our string by one character,
        // If our original string was "ABC" now we are pointing at "BC".
        ++s;
    }
}

Consider however that itoa don't adds padding zeroes, so printstringasbinary("AB1") will print something like:

1000001
1000010
110001

Limiting the output of PHP's echo to 200 characters

this is most easy way for doing that

substr($text, 0, 5);
substr($row['style-info'], 0, 5);

How do I get the YouTube video ID from a URL?

Here's a radically different solution.

You could request the JSON oEmbed document from 'https://www.youtube.com/oembed?format=json&url=' . rawurlencode($url) and then thumbnail_url has a fixed format, match it with a PCRE pattern like https://i.ytimg.com/vi/([^/]+), the first group is the YouTube ID.

replace all occurrences in a string

Use the global flag.

str.replace(/\n/g, '<br />');

Using varchar(MAX) vs TEXT on SQL Server

The VARCHAR(MAX) type is a replacement for TEXT. The basic difference is that a TEXT type will always store the data in a blob whereas the VARCHAR(MAX) type will attempt to store the data directly in the row unless it exceeds the 8k limitation and at that point it stores it in a blob.

Using the LIKE statement is identical between the two datatypes. The additional functionality VARCHAR(MAX) gives you is that it is also can be used with = and GROUP BY as any other VARCHAR column can be. However, if you do have a lot of data you will have a huge performance issue using these methods.

In regard to if you should use LIKE to search, or if you should use Full Text Indexing and CONTAINS. This question is the same regardless of VARCHAR(MAX) or TEXT.

If you are searching large amounts of text and performance is key then you should use a Full Text Index.

LIKE is simpler to implement and is often suitable for small amounts of data, but it has extremely poor performance with large data due to its inability to use an index.

Count items in a folder with PowerShell

I finally found this link:

https://blogs.perficient.com/microsoft/2011/06/powershell-count-property-returns-nothing/

Well, it turns out that this is a quirk caused precisely because there was only one file in the directory. Some searching revealed that in this case, PowerShell returns a scalar object instead of an array. This object doesn’t have a count property, so there isn’t anything to retrieve.

The solution -- force PowerShell to return an array with the @ symbol:

Write-Host @( Get-ChildItem c:\MyFolder ).Count;

Read input from console in Ruby?

If you want to make interactive console:

#!/usr/bin/env ruby

require "readline"
addends = []
while addend_string = Readline.readline("> ", true)
  addends << addend_string.to_i
  puts "#{addends.join(' + ')} = #{addends.sum}"
end

Usage (assuming you put above snippet into summator file in current directory):

chmod +x summator
./summator
> 1
1 = 1
> 2
1 + 2 = 3

Use Ctrl + D to exit

how to fix groovy.lang.MissingMethodException: No signature of method:

In my case it was simply that I had a variable named the same as a function.

Example:

def cleanCache = functionReturningABoolean()

if( cleanCache ){
    echo "Clean cache option is true, do not uninstall previous features / urls"
    uninstallCmd = ""

    // and we call the cleanCache method
    cleanCache(userId, serverName)
}
...

and later in my code I have the function:

def cleanCache(user, server){

 //some operations to the server

}

Apparently the Groovy language does not support this (but other languages like Java does). I just renamed my function to executeCleanCache and it works perfectly (or you can also rename your variable whatever option you prefer).

What is the difference between a pandas Series and a single-column DataFrame?

Import cars data

import pandas as pd

cars = pd.read_csv('cars.csv', index_col = 0)

Here is how the cars.csv file looks.

Print out drives_right column as Series:

print(cars.loc[:,"drives_right"])

    US      True
    AUS    False
    JAP    False
    IN     False
    RU      True
    MOR     True
    EG      True
    Name: drives_right, dtype: bool

The single bracket version gives a Pandas Series, the double bracket version gives a Pandas DataFrame.

Print out drives_right column as DataFrame

print(cars.loc[:,["drives_right"]])

         drives_right
    US           True
    AUS         False
    JAP         False
    IN          False
    RU           True
    MOR          True
    EG           True

Adding a Series to another Series creates a DataFrame.

How to insert double and float values to sqlite?

actually I think your code is just fine.. you can save those values as strings (TEXT) just like you did.. (if you want to)

and you probably get the error for the System.currentTimeMillis() that might be too big for INTEGER

ARM compilation error, VFP registers used by executable, not object file

Your target triplet indicates that your compiler is configured for the hard-float ABI. This means that the libgcc library will also be hardfp. The error message indicates that at least part of your system is using soft-float ABI.

If the compiler has multilib enabled (you can tell with -print-multi-lib) then you can use -mfloat-abi=softfp, but if not then that option won't help you much: gcc will happily generate softfp code, but then there'll be no compatible libgcc to link against.

Basically, hardfp and softfp are just not compatible. You need to get your whole system configured one way or the other.

EDIT: some distros are, or will be, "multiarch". If you have one of those then it's possible to install both ABIs at once, but that's done by doubling everything up -- the compatibility issues still exist.

How to stash my previous commit?

It's works for me;

  1. Checkout on commit that is a origin of current branch.
  2. Create new branch from this commit.
  3. Checkout to new branch.
  4. Merge branch with code for stash in new branch.
  5. Make soft reset in new branch.
  6. Stash your target code.
  7. Remove new branch.

I recommend use something like a SourceTree for this.

How do I use cx_freeze?

I'm really not sure what you're doing to get that error, it looks like you're trying to run cx_Freeze on its own, without arguments. So here is a short step-by-step guide on how to do it in windows (Your screenshot looks rather like the windows command line, so I'm assuming that's your platform)

  1. Write your setup.py file. Your script above looks correct so it should work, assuming that your script exists.

  2. Open the command line (Start -> Run -> "cmd")

  3. Go to the location of your setup.py file and run python setup.py build

Notes:

  1. There may be a problem with the name of your script. "Main.py" contains upper case letters, which might cause confusion since windows' file names are not case sensitive, but python is. My approach is to always use lower case for scripts to avoid any conflicts.

  2. Make sure that python is on your PATH (read http://docs.python.org/using/windows.html)1

  3. Make sure are are looking at the new cx_Freeze documentation. Google often seems to bring up the old docs.

Android list view inside a scroll view

You can put all into linear layout. That is, create linear layout and it will have 2 childs, scrollview and another linear layout. Give them layout weights and here you go :

<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="fill_parent"
android:orientation="vertical" >

<ScrollView
    android:layout_width="fill_parent"
    android:layout_height="0dip" android:layout_weight="0.8">

    <LinearLayout
        android:id="@+id/seTaskActivityRoot"
        android:layout_width="fill_parent"
        android:layout_height="wrap_content"
        android:background="@color/white"
        android:orientation="vertical" >

        <TextView
            android:id="@+id/textView1"
            android:layout_width="wrap_content"
            android:layout_height="wrap_content"
            android:layout_weight="1"
            android:text="@string/taskName" />

        <Spinner
            android:id="@+id/seTaskPrioritiesSP"

C++ Erase vector element by value rather than by position?

Eric Niebler is working on a range-proposal and some of the examples show how to remove certain elements. Removing 8. Does create a new vector.

int main(int argc, char const *argv[])
{
    std::vector<int> vi{2,4,6,8,10};
    for (auto& i : vi) {

Store multiple values in single key in json

{
  "number" : ["1","2","3"],
  "alphabet" : ["a", "b", "c"]
}

error LNK2005, already defined?

Assuming you want 'k' to be a different value in different .cpp files (hence declaring it twice), try changing both files to

namespace {
    int k;
}

This guarantees that the name 'k' uniquely identifies 'k' across translation units. The old version static int k; is deprecated.

If you want them to point to the same value, change one to extern int k;.

Controlling execution order of unit tests in Visual Studio

As you should know by now, purists say it's forbiden to run ordered tests. That might be true for unit tests. MSTest and other Unit Test frameworks are used to run pure unit test but also UI tests, full integration tests, you name it. Maybe we shouldn't call them Unit Test frameworks, or maybe we should and use them according to our needs. That's what most people do anyway.

I'm running VS2015 and I MUST run tests in a given order because I'm running UI tests (Selenium).

Priority - Doesn't do anything at all This attribute is not used by the test system. It is provided to the user for custom purposes.

orderedtest - it works but I don't recommend it because:

  1. An orderedtest a text file that lists your tests in the order they should be executed. If you change a method name, you must fix the file.
  2. The test execution order is respected inside a class. You can't order which class executes its tests first.
  3. An orderedtest file is bound to a configuration, either Debug or Release
  4. You can have several orderedtest files but a given method can not be repeated in different orderedtest files. So you can't have one orderedtest file for Debug and another for Release.

Other suggestions in this thread are interesting but you loose the ability to follow the test progress on Test Explorer.

You are left with the solution that purist will advise against, but in fact is the solution that works: sort by declaration order.

The MSTest executor uses an interop that manages to get the declaration order and this trick will work until Microsoft changes the test executor code.

This means the test method that is declared in the first place executes before the one that is declared in second place, etc.

To make your life easier, the declaration order should match the alphabetical order that is is shown in the Test Explorer.

  • A010_FirstTest
  • A020_SecondTest
  • etc
  • A100_TenthTest

I strongly suggest some old and tested rules:

  • use a step of 10 because you will need to insert a test method later on
  • avoid the need to renumber your tests by using a generous step between test numbers
  • use 3 digits to number your tests if you are running more than 10 tests
  • use 4 digits to number your tests if you are running more than 100 tests

VERY IMPORTANT

In order to execute the tests by the declaration order, you must use Run All in the Test Explorer.

Say you have 3 test classes (in my case tests for Chrome, Firefox and Edge). If you select a given class and right click Run Selected Tests it usually starts by executing the method declared in the last place.

Again, as I said before, declared order and listed order should match or else you'll in big trouble in no time.

C# Copy a file to another location with a different name

The easiest method you can use is this:

System.IO.File.Replace(string sourceFileName, string destinationFileName, string destinationBackupFileName);

This will take care of everything you requested.

How can I combine two commits into one commit?

You want to git rebase -i to perform an interactive rebase.

If you're currently on your "commit 1", and the commit you want to merge, "commit 2", is the previous commit, you can run git rebase -i HEAD~2, which will spawn an editor listing all the commits the rebase will traverse. You should see two lines starting with "pick". To proceed with squashing, change the first word of the second line from "pick" to "squash". Then save your file, and quit. Git will squash your first commit into your second last commit.

Note that this process rewrites the history of your branch. If you are pushing your code somewhere, you'll have to git push -f and anybody sharing your code will have to jump through some hoops to pull your changes.

Note that if the two commits in question aren't the last two commits on the branch, the process will be slightly different.

Parsing JSON from URL

I use java 1.8 with com.fasterxml.jackson.databind.ObjectMapper

Integer      value = mapper.readValue(new URL("your url here"), Integer.class);

Integer.class can be also a complex type. Just for example used.

Scroll to element on click in Angular 4

I need to do this trick, maybe because I use a custom HTML element. If I do not do this, target in onItemAmounterClick won't have the scrollIntoView method

      <my-component #target (click)="clicked(target)"></my-component>
</div>

.ts

onItemAmounterClick(target){
  target.__ngContext__[0].scrollIntoView({behavior: 'smooth'});
}

What is the difference between background and background-color

Comparison of 18 color swatches rendered 100 times on a page as small rectangles, once with background and once with background-color.

I recreated the CSS performance experiment and the results are significantly different nowadays.

background

Chrome 54: 443 (µs/div)

Firefox 49: 162 (µs/div)

Edge 10: 56 (µs/div)

background-color

Chrome 54: 449 (µs/div)

Firefox 49: 171 (µs/div)

Edge 10: 58 (µs/div)

As you see - there's almost no difference.

Thread Safe C# Singleton Pattern

Reflection resistant Singleton pattern:

            i++;
            return new Singleton();
        }, () => i);
    }

    private Singleton()

Format Float to n decimal places

This is a much less professional and much more expensive way but it should be easier to understand and more helpful for beginners.

public static float roundFloat(float F, int roundTo){

    String num = "#########.";

    for (int count = 0; count < roundTo; count++){
        num += "0";
    }

    DecimalFormat df = new DecimalFormat(num);

    df.setRoundingMode(RoundingMode.HALF_UP);

    String S = df.format(F);
    F = Float.parseFloat(S);

    return F;
}

Combine Points with lines with ggplot2

You may find that using the `group' aes will help you get the result you want. For example:

tu <- expand.grid(Land       = gl(2, 1, labels = c("DE", "BB")),
                  Altersgr   = gl(5, 1, labels = letters[1:5]),
                  Geschlecht = gl(2, 1, labels = c('m', 'w')),
                  Jahr       = 2000:2009)

set.seed(42)
tu$Wert <- unclass(tu$Altersgr) * 200 + rnorm(200, 0, 10)

ggplot(tu, aes(x = Jahr, y = Wert, color = Altersgr, group = Altersgr)) +
  geom_point() + geom_line() +
  facet_grid(Geschlecht ~ Land)

Which produces the plot found here:

Why should I use a container div in HTML?

Well,

The container div is very good to have, because if You want the site centered, You just can't do it just with body or html... But You can, with divs. Why container? Its usually used, just because the code itselve has to be clean and readable. So that is container... It contains all website, in case You want to mess with it around :)

Difference between npx and npm?

NPX:

From https://www.futurehosting.com/blog/npx-makes-life-easier-for-node-developers-plus-node-vulnerability-news/:

Web developers can have dozens of projects on their development machines, and each project has its own particular set of npm-installed dependencies. A few years back, the usual advice for dealing with CLI applications like Grunt or Gulp was to install them locally in each project and also globally so they could easily be run from the command line.

But installing globally caused as many problems as it solved. Projects may depend on different versions of command line tools, and polluting the operating system with lots of development-specific CLI tools isn’t great either. Today, most developers prefer to install tools locally and leave it at that.

Local versions of tools allow developers to pull projects from GitHub without worrying about incompatibilities with globally installed versions of tools. NPM can just install local versions and you’re good to go. But project specific installations aren’t without their problems: how do you run the right version of the tool without specifying its exact location in the project or playing around with aliases?

That’s the problem npx solves. A new tool included in NPM 5.2, npx is a small utility that’s smart enough to run the right application when it’s called from within a project.

If you wanted to run the project-local version of mocha, for example, you can run npx mocha inside the project and it will do what you expect.

A useful side benefit of npx is that it will automatically install npm packages that aren’t already installed. So, as the tool’s creator Kat Marchán points out, you can run npx benny-hill without having to deal with Benny Hill polluting the global environment.

If you want to take npx for a spin, update to the most recent version of npm.

Using jquery to delete all elements with a given id

if you want to remove all elements with matching ID parts, for example:

<span id='myID_123'>
<span id='myID_456'>
<span id='myID_789'>

try this:

$("span[id*=myID]").remove();

don't forget the '*' - this will remove them all at once - cheers

How to find reason of failed Build without any error or warning

Try building your project from the Powershell command line:

dotnet build

Then you can see any errors in the command line output even if Visual Studio is playing hide and seek with build error messages.

Create a view with ORDER BY clause

From Sql 2012 you can force ordering in views and subqueries with OFFSET

SELECT      C.CustomerID,
            C.CustomerName,
            C.CustomerAge
FROM        dbo.Customer C
ORDER BY    CustomerAge OFFSET 0 ROWS;

Warning: this should only be used on small lists because OFFSET forces the full view to be evaluated even if further joins or filters on the view reduce its size!

There is no good way to force ordering in a view without a side effect really and for good reason.

The input is not a valid Base-64 string as it contains a non-base 64 character

Just in case you don't know the type of uploaded image, and you just you need to remove its base64 header:

 var imageParts = model.ImageAsString.Split(',').ToList<string>();
 //Exclude the header from base64 by taking second element in List.
 byte[] Image = Convert.FromBase64String(imageParts[1]);

How to make Bootstrap Panel body with fixed height

You can use max-height in an inline style attribute, as below:

<div class="panel panel-primary">
  <div class="panel-heading">jhdsahfjhdfhs</div>
  <div class="panel-body" style="max-height: 10;">fdoinfds sdofjohisdfj</div>
</div>

To use scrolling with content that overflows a given max-height, you can alternatively try the following:

<div class="panel panel-primary">
  <div class="panel-heading">jhdsahfjhdfhs</div>
  <div class="panel-body" style="max-height: 10;overflow-y: scroll;">fdoinfds sdofjohisdfj</div>
</div>

To restrict the height to a fixed value you can use something like this.

<div class="panel panel-primary">
  <div class="panel-heading">jhdsahfjhdfhs</div>
  <div class="panel-body" style="min-height: 10; max-height: 10;">fdoinfds sdofjohisdfj</div>
</div>

Specify the same value for both max-height and min-height (either in pixels or in points – as long as it’s consistent).

You can also put the same styles in css class in a stylesheet (or a style tag as shown below) and then include the same in your tag. See below:

Style Code:

.fixed-panel {
  min-height: 10;
  max-height: 10;
  overflow-y: scroll;
}

Apply Style :

<div class="panel panel-primary">
  <div class="panel-heading">jhdsahfjhdfhs</div>
  <div class="panel-body fixed-panel">fdoinfds sdofjohisdfj</div>
</div>

Hope this helps with your need.

    Write-Output $_.Exception.additionalData

    # This will produce the error message: Didn't catch it the second time
    throw [CustomException]::new("Didn't catch it the second time", 'Extra data')

Running CMD command in PowerShell

For those who may need this info:

I figured out that you can pretty much run a command that's in your PATH from a PS script, and it should work.

Sometimes you may have to pre-launch this command with cmd.exe /c

Examples

Calling git from a PS script

I had to repackage a git client wrapped in Chocolatey (for those who may not know, it's a kind of app-store for Windows) which massively uses PS scripts.

I found out that, once git is in the PATH, commands like

$ca_bundle = git config --get http.sslCAInfo

will store the location of git crt file in $ca_bundle variable.

Looking for an App

Another example that is a combination of the present SO post and this SO post is the use of where command

$java_exe = cmd.exe /c where java

will store the location of java.exe file in $java_exe variable.

Mailto: Body formatting

Use %0D%0A for a line break in your body

Example (Demo):

<a href="mailto:[email protected]?subject=Suggestions&body=name:%0D%0Aemail:">test</a>?
                                                                  ^^^^^^

How do I change the text size in a label widget, python tkinter

Try passing width=200 as additional paramater when creating the Label.

This should work in creating label with specified width.

If you want to change it later, you can use:

label.config(width=200)

As you want to change the size of font itself you can try:

label.config(font=("Courier", 44))

In Python try until no error

When retrying due to error, you should always:

  • implement a retry limit, or you may get blocked on an infinite loop
  • implement a delay, or you'll hammer resources too hard, such as your CPU or the already distressed remote server

A simple generic way to solve this problem while covering those concerns would be to use the backoff library. A basic example:

import backoff

@backoff.on_exception(
    backoff.expo,
    MyException,
    max_tries=5
)
def make_request(self, data):
    # do the request

This code wraps make_request with a decorator which implements the retry logic. We retry whenever our specific error MyException occurs, with a limit of 5 retries. Exponential backoff is a good idea in this context to help minimize the additional burden our retries place on the remote server.

Python + Regex: AttributeError: 'NoneType' object has no attribute 'groups'

import re

htmlString = '</dd><dt> Fine, thank you.&#160;</dt><dd> Molt bé, gràcies. (<i>mohl behh, GRAH-syuhs</i>)'

SearchStr = '(\<\/dd\>\<dt\>)+ ([\w+\,\.\s]+)([\&\#\d\;]+)(\<\/dt\>\<dd\>)+ ([\w\,\s\w\s\w\?\!\.]+) (\(\<i\>)([\w\s\,\-]+)(\<\/i\>\))'

Result = re.search(SearchStr.decode('utf-8'), htmlString.decode('utf-8'), re.I | re.U)

print Result.groups()

Works that way. The expression contains non-latin characters, so it usually fails. You've got to decode into Unicode and use re.U (Unicode) flag.

I'm a beginner too and I faced that issue a couple of times myself.

How do I determine whether an array contains a particular value in Java?

As I'm dealing with low level Java using primitive types byte and byte[], the best so far I got is from bytes-java https://github.com/patrickfav/bytes-java seems a fine piece of work

What does the construct x = x || y mean?

Quote: "What does the construct x = x || y mean?"

Assigning a default value.

This means providing a default value of y to x, in case x is still waiting for its value but hasn't received it yet or was deliberately omitted in order to fall back to a default.

Can a for loop increment/decrement by more than one?

There is an operator just for this. For example, if I wanted to change a variable i by 3 then:

_x000D_
_x000D_
var someValue = 9;
var Increment  = 3;
for(var i=0;i<someValue;i+=Increment){
//do whatever
}
_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_ to decrease, you use -=
_x000D_
_x000D_
var someValue = 3;
var Increment  = 3;
for(var i=9;i>someValue;i+=Increment){
//do whatever
}
_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_

Explanation of JSONB introduced by PostgreSQL

JSONB is a "better" version of JSON.

Let's look at an example:

SELECT '{"c":0,   "a":2,"a":1}'::json, '{"c":0,   "a":2,"a":1}'::jsonb;
          json          |        jsonb
------------------------+---------------------
 {"c":0,   "a":2,"a":1} | {"a": 1, "c": 0}
(1 row)
  1. JSON stores white space, they is why we can see spaces when key "a" is stored, while JSONB does not.
  2. JSON stores all the values of key. This is the reason you can see multiple values (2 and 1) against the key "a" , while JSONB only "stores" the last value.
  3. JSON maintains the order in which elements are inserted, while JSONB maintains the "sorted" order.
  4. JSONB objects are stored as decompressed binary as opposed to "raw data" in JSON , where no reparsing of data is required during retrieval.
  5. JSONB also supports indexing, which can be a significant advantage.

In general, one should prefer JSONB , unless there are specialized needs, such as legacy assumptions about ordering of object keys.

jQuery .attr("disabled", "disabled") not working in Chrome

If you are using jQuery < 1.6 do this:

jQuery("input[type='text']").attr("disabled", 'disabled');

If you are using jQuery 1.6+:

jQuery("input[type='text']").prop("disabled", true);

See this question: .prop() vs .attr() for references why.

Or you can try this:

$('input:text').attr("disabled", 'disabled');

see here for info on :text

How can I create a border around an Android LinearLayout?

I'll add Android docs link to other answers.

https://developer.android.com/guide/topics/resources/drawable-resource.html#Shape

It describes all attributes of the Shape Drawable and stroke among them to set the border.

Example:

<shape xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:shape="rectangle">
  <stroke android:width="1dp" android:color="#F00"/>
  <solid android:color="#0000"/>
</shape>

Red border with transparent background.

Making Enter key on an HTML form submit instead of activating button

You can use jQuery:

$(function() {
    $("form input").keypress(function (e) {
        if ((e.which && e.which == 13) || (e.keyCode && e.keyCode == 13)) {
            $('button[type=submit] .default').click();
            return false;
        } else {
            return true;
        }
    });
});

Making a PowerShell POST request if a body param starts with '@'

You should be able to do the following:

$params = @{"@type"="login";
 "username"="[email protected]";
 "password"="yyy";
}

Invoke-WebRequest -Uri http://foobar.com/endpoint -Method POST -Body $params

This will send the post as the body. However - if you want to post this as a Json you might want to be explicit. To post this as a JSON you can specify the ContentType and convert the body to Json by using

Invoke-WebRequest -Uri http://foobar.com/endpoint -Method POST -Body ($params|ConvertTo-Json) -ContentType "application/json"

Extra: You can also use the Invoke-RestMethod for dealing with JSON and REST apis (which will save you some extra lines for de-serializing)

Is the Javascript date object always one day off?

This through me for a loop, +1 on zzzBov's answer. Here is a full conversion of a date that worked for me using the UTC methods:

//myMeeting.MeetingDate = '2015-01-30T00:00:00'

var myDate = new Date(myMeeting.MeetingDate);
//convert to JavaScript date format
//returns date of 'Thu Jan 29 2015 19:00:00 GMT-0500 (Eastern Standard Time)' <-- One Day Off!

myDate = new Date(myDate.getUTCFullYear(), myDate.getUTCMonth(), myDate.getUTCDate());
//returns date of 'Fri Jan 30 2015 00:00:00 GMT-0500 (Eastern Standard Time)' <-- Correct Date!

Best way to remove an event handler in jQuery?

All the approaches described did not work for me because I was adding the click event with on() to the document where the element was created at run-time:

$(document).on("click", ".button", function() {
    doSomething();
});

My workaround:

As I could not unbind the ".button" class I just assigned another class to the button that had the same CSS styles. By doing so the live/on-event-handler ignored the click finally:

// prevent another click on the button by assigning another class
$(".button").attr("class","buttonOff");

Hope that helps.

Understanding lambda in python and using it to pass multiple arguments

Why do you need to state both 'x' and 'y' before the ':'?

You could actually in some situations(when you have only one argument) do not put the x and y before ":".

>>> flist = []
>>> for i in range(3):
...     flist.append(lambda : i)

but the i in the lambda will be bound by name, so,

>>> flist[0]()
2
>>> flist[2]()
2
>>>

different from what you may want.

How many socket connections can a web server handle?

To add my two cents to the conversation a process can have simultaneously open a number of sockets connected equal to this number (in Linux type sytems) /proc/sys/net/core/somaxconn

cat /proc/sys/net/core/somaxconn

This number can be modified on the fly (only by root user of course)

echo 1024 > /proc/sys/net/core/somaxconn

But entirely depends on the server process, the hardware of the machine and the network, the real number of sockets that can be connected before crashing the system

Check if key exists and iterate the JSON array using Python

import json

jsonData = """{"from": {"id": "8", "name": "Mary Pinter"}, "message": "How ARE you?", "comments": {"count": 0}, "updated_time": "2012-05-01", "created_time": "2012-05-01", "to": {"data": [{"id": "1543", "name": "Honey Pinter"}]}, "type": "status", "id": "id_7"}"""

def getTargetIds(jsonData):

    if 'to' not in data:
        raise ValueError("No target in given data")
    if 'data' not in data['to']:
        raise ValueError("No data for target")

    for dest in data['to']['data']:
        if 'id' not in dest:
            continue

How to request Google to re-crawl my website?

There are two options. The first (and better) one is using the Fetch as Google option in Webmaster Tools that Mike Flynn commented about. Here are detailed instructions:

  1. Go to: https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/ and log in
  2. If you haven't already, add and verify the site with the "Add a Site" button
  3. Click on the site name for the one you want to manage
  4. Click Crawl -> Fetch as Google
  5. Optional: if you want to do a specific page only, type in the URL
  6. Click Fetch
  7. Click Submit to Index
  8. Select either "URL" or "URL and its direct links"
  9. Click OK and you're done.

With the option above, as long as every page can be reached from some link on the initial page or a page that it links to, Google should recrawl the whole thing. If you want to explicitly tell it a list of pages to crawl on the domain, you can follow the directions to submit a sitemap.

Your second (and generally slower) option is, as seanbreeden pointed out, submitting here: http://www.google.com/addurl/

Update 2019:

  1. Login to - Google Search Console
  2. Add a site and verify it with the available methods.
  3. After verification from the console, click on URL Inspection.
  4. In the Search bar on top, enter your website URL or custom URLs for inspection and enter.
  5. After Inspection, it'll show an option to Request Indexing
  6. Click on it and GoogleBot will add your website in a Queue for crawling.

How to print / echo environment variables?

These need to go as different commands e.g.:

NAME=sam; echo "$NAME"
NAME=sam && echo "$NAME"

The expansion $NAME to empty string is done by the shell earlier, before running echo, so at the time the NAME variable is passed to the echo command's environment, the expansion is already done (to null string).

To get the same result in one command:

NAME=sam printenv NAME

Replace multiple strings with multiple other strings

Just in case someone is wondering why the original poster's solution is not working:

var str = "I have a cat, a dog, and a goat.";

str = str.replace(/cat/gi, "dog");
// now str = "I have a dog, a dog, and a goat."

str = str.replace(/dog/gi, "goat");

str = str.replace(/goat/gi, "cat");
// now str = "I have a cat, a cat, and a cat."

How to test my servlet using JUnit

You can do this using Mockito to have the mock return the correct params, verify they were indeed called (optionally specify number of times), write the 'result' and verify it's correct.

import static org.junit.Assert.*;
import static org.mockito.Mockito.*;
import java.io.*;
import javax.servlet.http.*;
import org.apache.commons.io.FileUtils;
import org.junit.Test;

public class TestMyServlet extends Mockito{

    @Test
    public void testServlet() throws Exception {
        HttpServletRequest request = mock(HttpServletRequest.class);
        HttpServletResponse response = mock(HttpServletResponse.class);

        when(request.getParameter("username")).thenReturn("me");
        when(request.getParameter("password")).thenReturn("secret");

        StringWriter stringWriter = new StringWriter();
        PrintWriter writer = new PrintWriter(stringWriter);
        when(response.getWriter()).thenReturn(writer);

        new MyServlet().doPost(request, response);

        verify(request, atLeast(1)).getParameter("username"); // only if you want to verify username was called...
        writer.flush(); // it may not have been flushed yet...
        assertTrue(stringWriter.toString().contains("My expected string"));
    }
}

How to Call a Function inside a Render in React/Jsx

The fix was at the accepted answer. Yet if someone wants to know why it worked and why the implementation in the SO question didn't work,

First, functions are first class objects in JavaScript. That means they are treated like any other variable. Function can be passed as an argument to other functions, can be returned by another function and can be assigned as a value to a variable. Read more here.

So we use that variable to invoke the function by adding parentheses () at the end.

One thing, If you have a function that returns a funtion and you just need to call that returned function, you can just have double paranthesis when you call the outer function ()().

OVER_QUERY_LIMIT in Google Maps API v3: How do I pause/delay in Javascript to slow it down?

Nothing like these two lines appears in Mike Williams' tutorial:

    wait = true;
    setTimeout("wait = true", 2000);

Here's a Version 3 port:

http://acleach.me.uk/gmaps/v3/plotaddresses.htm

The relevant bit of code is

  // ====== Geocoding ======
  function getAddress(search, next) {
    geo.geocode({address:search}, function (results,status)
      {
        // If that was successful
        if (status == google.maps.GeocoderStatus.OK) {
          // Lets assume that the first marker is the one we want
          var p = results[0].geometry.location;
          var lat=p.lat();
          var lng=p.lng();
          // Output the data
            var msg = 'address="' + search + '" lat=' +lat+ ' lng=' +lng+ '(delay='+delay+'ms)<br>';
            document.getElementById("messages").innerHTML += msg;
          // Create a marker
          createMarker(search,lat,lng);
        }
        // ====== Decode the error status ======
        else {
          // === if we were sending the requests to fast, try this one again and increase the delay
          if (status == google.maps.GeocoderStatus.OVER_QUERY_LIMIT) {
            nextAddress--;
            delay++;
          } else {
            var reason="Code "+status;
            var msg = 'address="' + search + '" error=' +reason+ '(delay='+delay+'ms)<br>';
            document.getElementById("messages").innerHTML += msg;
          }
        }
        next();
      }

How to set a Postgresql default value datestamp like 'YYYYMM'?

Please bear in mind that the formatting of the date is independent of the storage. If it's essential to you that the date is stored in that format you will need to either define a custom data type or store it as a string. Then you can use a combination of extract, typecasting and concatenation to get that format.

However, I suspect that you want to store a date and get the format on output. So, something like this will do the trick for you:

    CREATE TABLE my_table
    (
    id serial PRIMARY KEY not null,
    my_date date not null default CURRENT_DATE
    );

(CURRENT_DATE is basically a synonym for now() and a cast to date).

(Edited to use to_char).

Then you can get your output like:

SELECT id, to_char(my_date, 'yyyymm') FROM my_table;

Now, if you did really need to store that field as a string and ensure the format you could always do:

CREATE TABLE my_other_table
(
id serial PRIMARY KEY not null,
my_date varchar(6) default to_char(CURRENT_DATE, 'yyyymm')
);

How to do an Integer.parseInt() for a decimal number?

suppose we take a integer in string.

String s="100"; int i=Integer.parseInt(s); or int i=Integer.valueOf(s);

but in your question the number you are trying to do the change is the whole number

String s="10.00";

double d=Double.parseDouble(s);

int i=(int)d;

This way you get the answer of the value which you are trying to get it.

Professional jQuery based Combobox control?

Anyone looking for a jquery "combo box" seems to be directed to this question. My post is for people coming to this page to find a "traditional" combo box, rather than an answer to the original question. The above solutions all focus on using the input as a means to filtering and autocompleting to an existing select value. (great for large datasets)

If you're looking for the traditional combo box, which is simply "Type something or select from these pre-defined values" (no we won't hide the ones that don't match while you're typing), all you may need to do is

<select id="combo4" style="width: 200px;"
            onchange="$('input#text4').val($(this).val());">
    <option>option 1</option>
    <option>option 2</option>
    <option>option 3</option>
</select>
<input id="text4"
       style="margin-left: -203px; width: 180px; height: 1.2em; border: 0;" />

See http://bit.wisestamp.com/uncategorized/htmljquery-editable-combo-2/

Should be easy to wrap this into a plugin that converts an existing select tag, though I haven't seen that done yet.

P.S.: The main problem I see with "jQuery Editable Combobox" is that it remains a select list, and it is not obvious at all that you can just start typing something new.

Convert JSON string to array of JSON objects in Javascript

As simple as that.

var str = '{"id":1,"name":"Test1"},{"id":2,"name":"Test2"}';
 dataObj = JSON.parse(str);

What is the difference between match_parent and fill_parent?

1. match_parent

When you set layout width and height as match_parent, it will occupy the complete area that the parent view has, i.e. it will be as big as the parent.

Note : If parent is applied a padding then that space would not be included.

When we create a layout.xml by default we have RelativeLayout as default parent View with android:layout_width="match_parent" and android:layout_height="match_parent" i.e it occupies the complete width and height of the mobile screen.

Also note that padding is applied to all sides,

android:paddingBottom="@dimen/activity_vertical_margin"
android:paddingLeft="@dimen/activity_horizontal_margin"
android:paddingRight="@dimen/activity_horizontal_margin"
android:paddingTop="@dimen/activity_vertical_margin"

Now lets add a sub-view LinearLayout and sets its layout_width="match_parent" and layout_height="match_parent", the graphical view would display something like this,

match_parent_example

Code

xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:paddingBottom="@dimen/activity_vertical_margin"
android:paddingLeft="@dimen/activity_horizontal_margin"
android:paddingRight="@dimen/activity_horizontal_margin"
android:paddingTop="@dimen/activity_vertical_margin"
tools:context="com.code2care.android.togglebuttonexample.MainActivity" >

android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:layout_alignParentLeft="true"
android:layout_alignParentTop="true"
android:layout_marginLeft="11dp"
android:background="#FFFFEE"
android:orientation="vertical" >

2. fill_parent :

This is same as match_parent, fill_parent was depreciated in API level 8. So if you are using API level 8 or above you must avoid using fill_parent

Lets follow the same steps as we did for match_parent, just instead use fill_parent everywhere.

You would see that there is no difference in behaviour in both fill_parent and match parent.

ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION AndroidManifest Permissions Not Being Granted

I was having the same problem and could not figure out what I was doing wrong. Turns out, the auto-complete for Android Studio was changing the text to either all caps or all lower case (depending on whether I typed in upper case or lower cast words before the auto-complete). The OS was not registering the name due to this issue and I would get the error regarding a missing permission. As stated above, ensure your permissions are labeled correctly:

Correct:

<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION" />

Incorrect:

<uses-permission android:name="ANDROID.PERMISSION.ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION" />

Incorrect:

<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.access_fine_location" />

Though this may seem trivial, its easy to overlook.

If there is some setting to make permissions non-case-sensitive, please add a comment with the instructions. Thank you!

jQuery UI DatePicker - Change Date Format

If you setup a datepicker on an input[type="text"] element you may not get a consistently formatted date, particularly when the user doesn't follow the date format for data entry.

For example, when you set the dateFormat as dd-mm-yy and the user types 1-1-1. The datepicker will convert this to Jan 01, 2001 internally but calling val() on the datepicker object will return the string "1-1-1" -- exactly what is in the text field.

This implies you should either be validating the user input to ensure the date entered is in the format you expect or not allowing the user to enter dates freeform (preferring instead the calendar picker). Even so it is possible to force the datepicker code to give you a string formatted like you expect:

var picker = $('#datepicker');

picker.datepicker({ dateFormat: 'dd-mm-yy' });

picker.val( '1-1-1' );  // simulate user input

alert( picker.val() );  // "1-1-1"

var d = picker.datepicker( 'getDate' );
var f = picker.datepicker( 'option', 'dateFormat' );
var v = $.datepicker.formatDate( f, d );

alert( v );             // "01-01-2001"

Be aware however that while the datepicker's getDate() method will return a date, it can only do so much with user input that doesn't exactly match the date format. This means in the absence of validation it is possible to get a date back that is different from what the user expects. Caveat emptor.

HTML5 form validation pattern alphanumeric with spaces?

Use below code for HTML5 validation pattern alphanumeric without / with space :-

for HTML5 validation pattern alphanumeric without space :- onkeypress="return event.charCode >= 48 && event.charCode <= 57 || event.charCode >= 97 && event.charCode <= 122 || event.charCode >= 65 && event.charCode <= 90"

for HTML5 validation pattern alphanumeric with space :-

onkeypress="return event.charCode >= 48 && event.charCode <= 57 || event.charCode >= 97 && event.charCode <= 122 || event.charCode >= 65 && event.charCode <= 90 || event.charCode == 32"

How to customize an end time for a YouTube video?

I tried the method of @mystic11 ( https://stackoverflow.com/a/11422551/506073 ) and got redirected around. Here is a working example URL:

http://youtube.googleapis.com/v/WA8sLsM3McU?start=15&end=20&version=3

If the version=3 parameter is omitted, the video starts at the correct place but runs all the way to the end. From the documentation for the end parameter I am guessing version=3 asks for the AS3 player to be used. See:

end (supported players: AS3, HTML5)

Additional Experiments

Autoplay

Autoplay of the clipped video portion works:

http://youtube.googleapis.com/v/WA8sLsM3McU?start=15&end=20&version=3&autoplay=1

Looping

Adding looping as per the documentation unfortunately starts the second and subsequent iterations at the beginning of the video: http://youtube.googleapis.com/v/WA8sLsM3McU?start=15&end=20&version=3&loop=1&playlist=WA8sLsM3McU

To do this properly, you probably need to set enablejsapi=1 and use the javascript API.

FYI, the above video looped: http://www.infinitelooper.com/?v=WA8sLsM3McU&p=n#/15;19

Remove Branding and Related Videos

To get rid of the Youtube logo and the list of videos to click on to at the end of playing the video you want to watch, add these (&modestBranding=1&rel=0) parameters:

http://youtube.googleapis.com/v/WA8sLsM3McU?start=15&end=20&version=3&autoplay=1&modestBranding=1&rel=0

Remove the uploader info with showinfo=0:

http://youtube.googleapis.com/v/WA8sLsM3McU?start=15&end=20&version=3&autoplay=1&modestBranding=1&rel=0&showinfo=0

This eliminates the thin strip with video title, up and down thumbs, and info icon at the top of the video. The final version produced is fairly clean and doesn't have the downside of giving your viewers an exit into unproductive clicking around Youtube at the end of watching the video portion that you wanted them to see.

Fix CSS hover on iPhone/iPad/iPod

Here is a very slight improvement to user1387483's answer using an immediate function:

(function() {
  $("*").on( 'touchstart', function() {
    $(this).trigger('hover') ;
  } ).on('touchend', function() {
    $(this).trigger('hover') ;
  } ) ;
})() ;

Also, I agree with Boz that this appears to be the "neatest, most compliant solution".

Can I fade in a background image (CSS: background-image) with jQuery?

You can give opacity value as

div {opacity: 0.4;}

For IE, you can specify as

div { filter:alpha(opacity=10));}

Lower the value - Higher the transparency.

How to pass variables from one php page to another without form?

CSS Box Shadow Bottom Only

try this to get the box-shadow under your full control.

    <html>

    <head>
        <style>
            div {
                width:300px;
                height:100px;
                background-color:yellow;
                box-shadow: 0 10px black inset,0 -10px red inset, -10px 0 blue inset, 10px 0 green inset;
           }
        </style>
    </head>
    <body>
        <div>
        </div>
    </body>

    </html>

this would apply to outer box-shadow as well.

Copy to Clipboard for all Browsers using javascript

This works on firefox 3.6.x and IE:

    function copyToClipboardCrossbrowser(s) {
        s = document.getElementById(s).value;

        if( window.clipboardData && clipboardData.setData )
        {
            clipboardData.setData("Text", s);
        }
        else
        {
            // You have to sign the code to enable this or allow the action in about:config by changing
            //user_pref("signed.applets.codebase_principal_support", true);
            netscape.security.PrivilegeManager.enablePrivilege('UniversalXPConnect');

            var clip = Components.classes["@mozilla.org/widget/clipboard;1"].createInstance(Components.interfaces.nsIClipboard);

            // specify the data we wish to handle. Plaintext in this case.
            trans.addDataFlavor('text/unicode');

            // To get the data from the transferable we need two new objects
            var str = new Object();
            var len = new Object();

            var str = Components.classes["@mozilla.org/supports-string;1"].createInstance(Components.interfaces.nsISupportsString);

            str.data= s;

            trans.setTransferData("text/unicode",str, str.data.length * 2);

            var clipid=Components.interfaces.nsIClipboard;
            if (!clip) return false;
            clip.setData(trans,null,clipid.kGlobalClipboard);
        }

Find full path of the Python interpreter?

Just noting a different way of questionable usefulness, using os.environ:

How to use unicode characters in Windows command line?

A quick decision for .bat files if you computer displays your path/file name correct when you typing it in DOS-window:

  1. copy con temp.txt [press Enter]
  2. Type the path/file name [press Enter]
  3. Press Ctrl-Z [press Enter]

This way you create a .txt file - temp.txt. Open it in Notepad, copy the text (don't worry it will look unreadable) and paste it in your .bat file. Executing the .bat created this way in DOS-window worked for m? (Cyrillic, Bulgarian).

JPA: How to get entity based on field value other than ID?

Basically, you should add a specific unique field. I usually use xxxUri fields.

class User {

    @Id
    // automatically generated
    private Long id;

    // globally unique id
    @Column(name = "SCN", nullable = false, unique = true)
    private String scn;
}

And you business method will do like this.

public User findUserByScn(@NotNull final String scn) {
    CriteriaBuilder builder = manager.getCriteriaBuilder();
    CriteriaQuery<User> criteria = builder.createQuery(User.class);
    Root<User> from = criteria.from(User.class);
    criteria.select(from);
    criteria.where(builder.equal(from.get(User_.scn), scn));
    TypedQuery<User> typed = manager.createQuery(criteria);
    try {
        return typed.getSingleResult();
    } catch (final NoResultException nre) {
        return null;
    }
}

java.lang.IllegalStateException: Fragment not attached to Activity

So the base idea is that you are running a UI operation on a fragment that is getting in the onDetach lifecycle.

When this is happening the fragment is getting off the stack and losing the context of the Activity.

So when you call UI related functions for example calling the progress spinner and you want to leave the fragment check if the Fragment is added to the stack, like this:

if(isAdded){ progressBar.visibility=View.VISIBLE }

No space left on device

Maybe you are out of inodes. Try df -i

                     2591792  136322 2455470    6% /home
/dev/sdb1            1887488 1887488       0  100% /data

Disk used 6% but inode table full.

How can I remove "\r\n" from a string in C#? Can I use a regular expression?

You could use a regex, yes, but a simple string.Replace() will probably suffice.

 myString = myString.Replace("\r\n", string.Empty);

Connection failed: SQLState: '01000' SQL Server Error: 10061

I had the same error which was coming and dont need to worry about this error, just restart the server and restart the SQL services. This issue comes when there is low disk space issue and system will go into hung state and then the sql services will stop automatically.

Send a file via HTTP POST with C#

Using .NET 4.5 (or .NET 4.0 by adding the Microsoft.Net.Http package from NuGet) there is an easier way to simulate form requests. Here is an example:

private async Task<System.IO.Stream> Upload(string actionUrl, string paramString, Stream paramFileStream, byte [] paramFileBytes)
{
    HttpContent stringContent = new StringContent(paramString);
    HttpContent fileStreamContent = new StreamContent(paramFileStream);
    HttpContent bytesContent = new ByteArrayContent(paramFileBytes);
    using (var client = new HttpClient())
    using (var formData = new MultipartFormDataContent())
    {
        formData.Add(stringContent, "param1", "param1");
        formData.Add(fileStreamContent, "file1", "file1");
        formData.Add(bytesContent, "file2", "file2");
        var response = await client.PostAsync(actionUrl, formData);
        if (!response.IsSuccessStatusCode)
        {
            return null;
        }
        return await response.Content.ReadAsStreamAsync();
    }
}

How do you properly determine the current script directory?

Note: this answer is now a package

$ pip install locate

>>> from locate import this_dir
>>> print(this_dir())
C:/Users/simon

For .py scripts as well as interactive usage:

I frequently use the directory of my scripts (for accessing files stored along side them), but I also frequently run these scripts in an interactive shell for debugging purposes. I define __dirpath__ as:

  • When running or importing a .py file, the file's base directory. This is always the correct path.
  • When running an .ipyn notebook, the current working directory. This is always the correct path, since Jupyter sets the working directory as the .ipynb base directory.
  • When running in a REPL, the current working directory. Hmm, what is the actual "correct path" when the code is detached from a file? Rather, make it your responsibility to change into the "correct path" before invoking the REPL.

Python 3.4 (and above):

from pathlib import Path
__dirpath__ = Path(globals().get("__file__", "./_")).absolute().parent

Python 2 (and above):

import os
__dirpath__ = os.path.dirname(os.path.abspath(globals().get("__file__", "./_")))

Explanation:

  • globals() returns all the global variables as a dictionary.
  • .get("__file__", "./_") returns the value from the key "__file__" if it exists in globals(), otherwise it returns the provided default value "./_".
  • The rest of the code just expands __file__ (or "./_") into an absolute filepath, and then returns the filepath's base directory.

Netbeans how to set command line arguments in Java

This worked for me, use the VM args in NetBeans:

@Value("${a.b.c:#{abc}}"
...

@Value("${e.f.g:#{efg}}"
...

Netbeans:

-Da.b.c="..." -De.f.g="..."

Properties -> Run -> VM Options -> -De.f.g=efg -Da.b.c=abc

From the commandline

java -jar <yourjar> --Da.b.c="abc"

How to commit a change with both "message" and "description" from the command line?

git commit -a -m "Your commit message here"

will quickly commit all changes with the commit message. Git commit "title" and "description" (as you call them) are nothing more than just the first line, and the rest of the lines in the commit message, usually separated by a blank line, by convention. So using this command will just commit the "title" and no description.

If you want to commit a longer message, you can do that, but it depends on which shell you use.

In bash the quick way would be:

git commit -a -m $'Commit title\n\nRest of commit message...'

Java Program to test if a character is uppercase/lowercase/number/vowel

This is your homework, so I assume you NEED to use the loops and switch statments. That's O.K, but why are all your loops inner to the privious ones ?

Just take them out to the same "level" and your code is just fine! (part to the low/up mixup).

A tip: Pressing extra 'Enter' & 'Space' is free! (That's the first thing I did to your code, and the problem became very trivial)

AngularJS: How to make angular load script inside ng-include?

Short answer: AngularJS ("jqlite") doesn't support this. Include jQuery on your page (before including Angular), and it should work. See https://groups.google.com/d/topic/angular/H4haaMePJU0/discussion

"Android library projects cannot be launched"?

Build a simple HTTP server in C

Textarea Auto height

I see that this is answered already, but I believe I have a simple jQuery solution ( jQuery is not even really needed; I just enjoy using it ):

I suggest counting the line breaks in the textarea text and setting the rows attribute of the textarea accordingly.

var text = jQuery('#your_textarea').val(),
    // look for any "\n" occurences
    matches = text.match(/\n/g),
    breaks = matches ? matches.length : 2;

jQuery('#your_textarea').attr('rows',breaks + 2);

Print directly from browser without print popup window

For IE browsers, the "VBScript solution" works.

But as mentioned by @purefusion at Bypass Printdialog in IE9, Use Print() rather than window.print()

How to make div go behind another div?

One possible could be like this,

HTML

<div class="box-left-mini">
    <div class="front">this div is infront</div>
    <div class="behind">
        this div is behind
    </div>
</div>

CSS

.box-left-mini{
float:left;
background-image:url(website-content/hotcampaign.png);
width:292px;
height:141px;
}
.front{
    background-color:lightgreen;
}
.behind{
    background-color:grey;
    position:absolute;
    width:100%;
    height:100%;
    top:0;
    z-index:-1;
}

http://jsfiddle.net/MgtWS/

But it really depends on the layout of your div elements i.e. if they are floating, or absolute positioned etc.

How to run a shell script on a Unix console or Mac terminal?

Little addition, to run an interpreter from the same folder, still using #!hashbang in scripts.

As example a php7.2 executable copied from /usr/bin is in a folder along a hello script.

#!./php7.2
<?php

echo "Hello!";

To run it:

./hello

Which behave just as equal as:

./php7.2 hello

The proper solutions with good documentation can be the tools linuxdeploy and/or appimage, this is using this method under the hood.

Linq select object from list depending on objects attribute

Of course!

Use FirstOrDefault() to select the first object which matches the condition:

Answer answer = Answers.FirstOrDefault(a => a.Correct);

Otherwise use Where() to select a subset of your list:

var answers = Answers.Where(a => a.Correct);

How do I enable EF migrations for multiple contexts to separate databases?

I just bumped into the same problem and I used the following solution (all from Package Manager Console)

PM> Enable-Migrations -MigrationsDirectory "Migrations\ContextA" -ContextTypeName MyProject.Models.ContextA
PM> Enable-Migrations -MigrationsDirectory "Migrations\ContextB" -ContextTypeName MyProject.Models.ContextB

This will create 2 separate folders in the Migrations folder. Each will contain the generated Configuration.cs file. Unfortunately you still have to rename those Configuration.cs files otherwise there will be complaints about having two of them. I renamed my files to ConfigA.cs and ConfigB.cs

EDIT: (courtesy Kevin McPheat) Remember when renaming the Configuration.cs files, also rename the class names and constructors /EDIT

With this structure you can simply do

PM> Add-Migration -ConfigurationTypeName ConfigA
PM> Add-Migration -ConfigurationTypeName ConfigB

Which will create the code files for the migration inside the folder next to the config files (this is nice to keep those files together)

PM> Update-Database -ConfigurationTypeName ConfigA
PM> Update-Database -ConfigurationTypeName ConfigB

And last but not least those two commands will apply the correct migrations to their corrseponding databases.

EDIT 08 Feb, 2016: I have done a little testing with EF7 version 7.0.0-rc1-16348

I could not get the -o|--outputDir option to work. It kept on giving Microsoft.Dnx.Runtime.Common.Commandline.CommandParsingException: Unrecognized command or argument

However it looks like the first time an migration is added it is added into the Migrations folder, and a subsequent migration for another context is automatically put into a subdolder of migrations.

The original names ContextA seems to violate some naming conventions so I now use ContextAContext and ContextBContext. Using these names you could use the following commands: (note that my dnx still works from the package manager console and I do not like to open a separate CMD window to do migrations)

PM> dnx ef migrations add Initial -c "ContextAContext"
PM> dnx ef migrations add Initial -c "ContextBContext"

This will create a model snapshot and a initial migration in the Migrations folder for ContextAContext. It will create a folder named ContextB containing these files for ContextBContext

I manually added a ContextA folder and moved the migration files from ContextAContext into that folder. Then I renamed the namespace inside those files (snapshot file, initial migration and note that there is a third file under the initial migration file ... designer.cs). I had to add .ContextA to the namespace, and from there the framework handles it automatically again.

Using the following commands would create a new migration for each context

PM> dnx ef migrations add Update1 -c "ContextAContext"
PM> dnx ef migrations add Update1 -c "ContextBContext"

and the generated files are put in the correct folders.
