Programs & Examples On #Indentation

Indenting is used to organize code by indicating blocks, closures, conditionals, and other constructs. It makes code easier to read, and in some languages is used to handle control flow.

How to fix/convert space indentation in Sublime Text?

If you find search and replace faster to use, you could use a regex replace like this:

Find (regex): (^|\G) {2} (Instead of " {2}" <space>{2} you can just write two spaces. Used it here for clarity.)

Replace with 4 spaces, or whatever you want, like \t.

"Expected an indented block" error?

I also experienced that for example:

This code doesnt work and get the intended block error.

class Foo(models.Model):
title = models.CharField(max_length=200)
body = models.TextField()
pub_date = models.DateTimeField('date published')
likes = models.IntegerField()

def __unicode__(self):
return self.title

However, when i press tab before typing return self.title statement, the code works.

class Foo(models.Model):
title = models.CharField(max_length=200)
body = models.TextField()
pub_date = models.DateTimeField('date published')
likes = models.IntegerField()

def __unicode__(self):
    return self.title

Hope, this will help others.

How to set HTML Auto Indent format on Sublime Text 3?

This is an adaptation of the above answer, but should be more complete.

To be clear, this is to re-introduce previous auto-indent features when HTML files are open in Sublime Text. So when you finish a tag, it automatically indents for the next element.

Windows Users

Go to C:\Program Files\Sublime Text 3\Packages extract HTML.sublime-package as if it is a zip file to a directory.

Open Miscellaneous.tmPreferences and copy this contents into the file

Then re-zip the file as HTML.sublime-package and replace the existing HTML.sublime-package with the one you just created.

Close and open Sublime Text 3 and you're done!

Set 4 Space Indent in Emacs in Text Mode

How to automatically indent source code?

In 2010 it is Ctrl+k, Ctrl+d. See image below.

Python IndentationError unindent does not match any outer indentation level

I had the same problem quite a few times. It happened especially when i tried to paste a few lines of code from an editor online, the spaces are not registered properly as 'tabs' or 'spaces'.

However the fix was quite simple. I just had to remove the spacing across all the lines of code in that specific set and space it again with the tabs correctly. This fixed my problem.

How to split strings over multiple lines in Bash?

Depending on what sort of risks you will accept and how well you know and trust the data, you can use simplistic variable interpolation.

$: x="
    this
    is
       variably indented
    stuff
   "
$: echo "$x" # preserves the newlines and spacing

    this
    is
       variably indented
    stuff

$: echo $x # no quotes, stacks it "neatly" with minimal spacing
this is variably indented stuff

Convert tabs to spaces in Notepad++

There is no 'Edit Components' tab in the preferences setup. You need to go 'Language Menu/Tab Settings', there is an option in there to control tab behavior. You can even set it to work differently depending on the language of the file.

Auto-indent in Notepad++

In the latest version (at least), you can find it through:

  • Settings (menu)
  • Preferences...
  • MISC (tab)
  • lower-left checkbox list
  • "Auto-indent" is the 2nd option in this group

[EDIT] Though, I don't think it's had the best implementation of Auto-indent. So, check to make sure you have version 5.1 -- auto-indent got an overhaul recently, so it auto-corrects your indenting.

Do also note that you're missing the block for the 2nd if:

void main(){
  if(){
    if() { }  # here
  }
}

How do you auto format code in Visual Studio?

  4. Replace the "curly bracket", } Fini. :)

How do I tidy up an HTML file's indentation in VI?

Here's a heavy-weight solution that gets you indenting, plus all the HTML pretty-printing you don't necessarily want to care about while you're editing.

First, download Tidy. Make sure you add the binary to your path, so you can call it from any location.

Next, create a config file describing your favorite HTML flavor. Documentation is not great for Tidy, but here's an overview, and a list of all the options. Here's my config file:

bare: yes
break-before-br: no
clean: yes
drop-proprietary-attributes: yes
fix-uri: yes
indent-spaces: 4
indent: yes
logical-emphasis: yes
markup: yes
output-xhtml: yes
quiet: yes
quote-marks: yes
replace-color: yes
tab-size: 4
uppercase-tags: no
vertical-space: yes
word-2000: yes
wrap: 0

Save this as tidyrc_html.txt in your ftplugin folder (under vimfiles).

One more file: add the following line to (or create) html.vim, also in ftplugin:

map <leader>tidy :%! tidy -config ~/vimfiles/ftplugin/tidyrc_html.txt <CR>

To use it, just open an HTML file, and type /tidy. (That / is the <leader> key.)

There you go! Not a quick solution, by any means, but now you're a bit better equipped for editing those huge, messed-up HTML files.

How to make the tab character 4 spaces instead of 8 spaces in nano?

If you use nano with a language like python (as in your example) it's also a good idea to convert tabs to spaces.

Edit your ~/.nanorc file (or create it) and add:

set tabsize 4
set tabstospaces

If you already got a file with tabs and want to convert them to spaces i recommend the expandcommand (shell):

expand -4 input.py > output.py

Changing Vim indentation behavior by file type

Put autocmd commands based on the file suffix in your ~/.vimrc

autocmd BufRead,BufNewFile *.c,*.h,*.java set noic cin noexpandtab
autocmd BufRead,BufNewFile   *.pl syntax on

The commands you're looking for are probably ts= and sw=

Indentation Error in Python

It happened to me also, but I got the problem solved. I was using an indentation of 5 spaces, but when I pressed tab, it used to put a four space indent. So I think you should just use one thing; i.e. either tab button to add indent or spaces. And an ideal indentation is one of 4 spaces. I found IntelliJ to be very useful for these sort of things.

Setting up Vim for Python

Some time ago I installed Valloric/YouCompleteMe and I find it really awesome. It provides you completion for file paths, function names, methods, variable names... Together with davidhalter/jedi-vim it makes vim great for python programming (the only thing missing now is a linter).

LaTeX "\indent" creating paragraph indentation / tabbing package requirement?

This is kind of a hack but the best solution that I have found is to use a description tag with no \item. This will produce an error from the latex compiler; however, the error does not prevent the pdf from being generated.

\begin{description}
     <YOUR TEXT HERE>
\end{description}
  • This only worked on windows latex compiler

How do I fix the indentation of an entire file in Vi?

How do I reformat HTML code using Sublime Text 2?

Altough the question is for HTML, I would also additionally like to give info about how to auto-format your Javascript code for Sublime Text 2;

You can select all your code(ctrl + A) and use the in-app functionality, reindent(Edit -> Line -> Reindent) or you can use JsFormat formatting plugin for Sublime Text 2 if you would like to have more customizable settings on how to format your code to addition to the Sublime Text's default tab/indent settings.

https://github.com/jdc0589/JsFormat

You can easily install JsFormat with using Package Control (Preferences -> Package Control) Open package control then type install, hit enter. Then type js format and hit enter, you're done. (The package controller will show the status of the installation with success and errors on the bottom left bar of Sublime)

Add the following line to your key bindings (Preferences -> Key Bindings User)

{ "keys": ["ctrl+alt+2"], "command": "js_format"}

I'm using ctrl + alt + 2, you can change this shortcut key whatever you want to. So far, JsFormat is a good plugin, worth to try it!

Hope this will help someone.

Java: How to Indent XML Generated by Transformer

Tab key == 4 spaces and auto-indent after curly braces in Vim

The auto-indent is based on the current syntax mode. I know that if you are editing Foo.java, then entering a { and hitting Enter indents the following line.

As for tabs, there are two settings. Within Vim, type a colon and then "set tabstop=4" which will set the tabs to display as four spaces. Hit colon again and type "set expandtab" which will insert spaces for tabs.

You can put these settings in a .vimrc (or _vimrc on Windows) in your home directory, so you only have to type them once.

How to change indentation mode in Atom?

If global tab/spaces indentation settings no longer fit your needs (I.E. you find yourself working with legacy codebases with varied indentation formats, and you need to quickly switch between them, and the auto-detect isn't working) you might try the tab-control plugin, which sort of duplicates the functionality of the menu in your screenshot.

IndentationError: unexpected indent error

While the indentation errors are obvious in the StackOverflow page, they may not be in your editor. You have a mix of different indentation types here, 1, 4 and 8 spaces. You should always use four spaces for indentation, as per PEP8. You should also avoid mixing tabs and spaces.

I also recommend that you try to run your script using the '-tt' command-line option to determine when you accidentally mix tabs and spaces. Of course any decent editor will be able to highlight tabs versus spaces (such as Vim's 'list' option).

IndentationError: unindent does not match any outer indentation level

I got this error even though I didn't have any tabs in my code, and the reason was there was a superfluous closing parenthesis somewhere in my code. I should have figured this out earlier because it was messing up spaces before and after some equal signs... If you find anything off even after running Reformat code in your IDE (or manually running autopep8), make sure all your parentheses match, starting backwards from the weird spaces before/after the first equals sign.

IndentationError expected an indented block

You should install a editor (or IDE) supporting Python syntax. It can highlight source code and make basic format checking. For example: Eric4, Spyder, Ninjia, or Emacs, Vi.

How to compare dates in datetime fields in Postgresql?

Use the range type. If the user enter a date:

select *
from table
where
    update_date
    <@
    tsrange('2013-05-03', '2013-05-03'::date + 1, '[)');

If the user enters timestamps then you don't need the ::date + 1 part

How do I install Python packages in Google's Colab?

You can use !setup.py install to do that.

Colab is just like a Jupyter notebook. Therefore, we can use the ! operator here to install any package in Colab. What ! actually does is, it tells the notebook cell that this line is not a Python code, its a command line script. So, to run any command line script in Colab, just add a ! preceding the line.

For example: !pip install tensorflow. This will treat that line (here pip install tensorflow) as a command prompt line and not some Python code. However, if you do this without adding the ! preceding the line, it'll throw up an error saying "invalid syntax".

But keep in mind that you'll have to upload the setup.py file to your drive before doing this (preferably into the same folder where your notebook is).

Hope this answers your question :)

Setting PHP tmp dir - PHP upload not working

The problem described here was solved by me quite a long time ago but I don't really remember what was the main reason that uploads weren't working. There were multiple things that needed fixing so the upload could work. I have created checklist that might help others having similar problems and I will edit it to make it as helpful as possible. As I said before on chat, I was working on embedded system, so some points may be skipped on non-embedded systems.

  • Check upload_tmp_dir in php.ini. This is directory where PHP stores temporary files while uploading.

  • Check open_basedir in php.ini. If defined it limits PHP read/write rights to specified path and its subdirectories. Ensure that upload_tmp_dir is inside this path.

  • Check post_max_size in php.ini. If you want to upload 20 Mbyte files, try something a little bigger, like post_max_size = 21M. This defines largest size of POST message which you are probably using during upload.

  • Check upload_max_filesize in php.ini. This specifies biggest file that can be uploaded.

  • Check memory_limit in php.ini. That's the maximum amount of memory a script may consume. It's quite obvious that it can't be lower than upload size (to be honest I'm not quite sure about it-PHP is probably buffering while copying temporary files).

  • Ensure that you're checking the right php.ini file that is one used by PHP on your webserver. The best solution is to execute script with directive described here http://php.net/manual/en/function.php-ini-loaded-file.php (php_ini_loaded_file function)

  • Check what user php runs as (See here how to do it: How to check what user php is running as? ). I have worked on different distros and servers. Sometimes it is apache, but sometimes it can be root. Anyway, check that this user has rights for reading and writing in the temporary directory and directory that you're uploading into. Check all directories in the path in case you're uploading into subdirectory (for example /dir1/dir2/-check both dir1 and dir2.

  • On embedded platforms you sometimes need to restrict writing to root filesystem because it is stored on flash card and this helps to extend life of this card. If you are using scripts to enable/disable file writes, ensure that you enable writing before uploading.

  • I had serious problems with PHP >5.4 upload monitoring based on sessions (as described here http://phpmaster.com/tracking-upload-progress-with-php-and-javascript/ ) on some platforms. Try something simple at first (like here: http://www.dzone.com/snippets/very-simple-php-file-upload ). If it works, you can try more sophisticated mechanisms.

  • If you make any changes in php.ini remember to restart server so the configuration will be reloaded.

PHP: HTML: send HTML select option attribute in POST

<form name="add" method="post">
     <p>Age:</p>
     <select name="age">
        <option value="1_sre">23</option>
        <option value="2_sam">24</option>
        <option value="5_john">25</option>
     </select>
     <input type="submit" name="submit"/>
</form>

You will have the selected value in $_POST['age'], e.g. 1_sre. Then you will be able to split the value and get the 'stud_name'.

$stud = explode("_",$_POST['age']);
$stud_id = $stud[0];
$stud_name = $stud[1];

What's the difference between Html.Label, Html.LabelFor and Html.LabelForModel

suppose you need a label with text customername than you can achive it using 2 ways

[1]@Html.Label("CustomerName")

[2]@Html.LabelFor(a => a.CustomerName)  //strongly typed

2nd method used a property from your model. If your view implements a model then you can use the 2nd method.

How to fix request failed on channel 0

I also faced the same issue. Just restarting my servers solved the issue.

Why does this AttributeError in python occur?

AttributeError is raised when attribute of the object is not available.

An attribute reference is a primary followed by a period and a name:

attributeref ::= primary "." identifier

To return a list of valid attributes for that object, use dir(), e.g.:

dir(scipy)

So probably you need to do simply: import scipy.sparse

Illegal mix of collations MySQL Error

In general the best way is to Change the table collation. However I have an old application and are not really able to estimate the outcome whether this has side effects. Therefore I tried somehow to convert the string into some other format that solved the collation problem. What I found working is to do the string compare by converting the strings into a hexadecimal representation of it's characters. On the database this is done with HEX(column). For PHP you may use this function:

public static function strToHex($string)
{
    $hex = '';
    for ($i=0; $i<strlen($string); $i++){
        $ord = ord($string[$i]);
        $hexCode = dechex($ord);
        $hex .= substr('0'.$hexCode, -2);
    }
    return strToUpper($hex);
}

When doing the database query, your original UTF8 string must be converted first into an iso string (e.g. using utf8_decode() in PHP) before using it in the DB. Because of the collation type the database cannot have UTF8 characters inside so the comparism should work event though this changes the original string (converting UTF8 characters that are not existend in the ISO charset result in a ? or these are removed entirely). Just make sure that when you write data into the database, that you use the same UTF8 to ISO conversion.

How can I add to a List's first position?

Use List<T>.Insert(0, item) or a LinkedList<T>.AddFirst().

jQuery selector for the label of a checkbox

$("label[for='"+$(this).attr("id")+"']");

This should allow you to select labels for all the fields in a loop as well. All you need to ensure is your labels should say for='FIELD' where FIELD is the id of the field for which this label is being defined.

What LaTeX Editor do you suggest for Linux?

Honestly, I've always been happy with emacs. Then again, I started out using emacs, so I've no doubt that it colours my perceptions. Still, it gives syntax highlighting and formatting, and can easily be configured to build the LaTeX. Check out the TeX mode.

Compiling Java 7 code via Maven

try using a newer version of the maven compiler plugin:

    <plugin>
        <artifactId>maven-compiler-plugin</artifactId>
        <version>3.2</version>
        <configuration>
            <source>1.7</source>
            <target>1.7</target>
        </configuration>
    </plugin>

also, specifying source file encoding in maven is better done globally:

<properties>
        <project.build.sourceEncoding>UTF-8</project.build.sourceEncoding>
</properties>

EDIT: As this answer is still getting attention i'd just like to point out that the latest values (as of latest edit) are 3.2 for maven compiler plugin and 1.8 for java, as questions about compiling java 8 code via maven are bound to appear soon :-)

CSS3 Fade Effect

You can't transition between two background images, as there's no way for the browser to know what you want to interpolate. As you've discovered, you can transition the background position. If you want the image to fade in on mouse over, I think the best way to do it with CSS transitions is to put the image on a containing element and then animate the background colour to transparent on the link itself:

span {
    background: url(button.png) no-repeat 0 0;
}
a {
    width: 32px;
    height: 32px;
    text-align: left;
    background: rgb(255,255,255);

    -webkit-transition: background 300ms ease-in 200ms; /* property duration timing-function delay */
    -moz-transition: background 300ms ease-in 200ms;
    -o-transition: background 300ms ease-in 200ms;
    transition: background 300ms ease-in 200ms;
    }
a:hover {
    background: rgba(255,255,255,0);
}

how to convert a string to date in mysql?

The following illustrates the syntax of the STR_TO_DATE() function:

STR_TO_DATE(str,fmt);

The STR_TO_DATE() converts the str string into a date value based on the fmt format string. The STR_TO_DATE() function may return a DATE , TIME, or DATETIME value based on the input and format strings. If the input string is illegal, the STR_TO_DATE() function returns NULL.

The following statement converts a string into a DATE value.

SELECT STR_TO_DATE('21,5,2013','%d,%m,%Y');

enter image description here

Based on the format string ‘%d, %m, %Y’, the STR_TO_DATE() function scans the ‘21,5,2013’ input string.

  • First, it attempts to find a match for the %d format specifier, which is a day of the month (01…31), in the input string. Because the number 21 matches with the %d specifier, the function takes 21 as the day value.
  • Second, because the comma (,) literal character in the format string matches with the comma in the input string, the function continues to check the second format specifier %m , which is a month (01…12), and finds that the number 5 matches with the %m format specifier. It takes the number 5 as the month value.
  • Third, after matching the second comma (,), the STR_TO_DATE() function keeps finding a match for the third format specifier %Y , which is four-digit year e.g., 2012,2013, etc., and it takes the number 2013 as the year value.

The STR_TO_DATE() function ignores extra characters at the end of the input string when it parses the input string based on the format string. See the following example:

SELECT STR_TO_DATE('21,5,2013 extra characters','%d,%m,%Y');

Node.js Error: connect ECONNREFUSED

The Unhandled 'error' event is referring not providing a function to the request to pass errors. Without this event the node process ends with the error instead of failing gracefully and providing actual feedback. You can set the event just before the request.write line to catch any issues:

request.on('error', function(err)

Get ASCII value at input word

char (with a lower-case c) is a numeric type. It already holds the ascii value of the char. Just cast it to an integer to display it as a numeric value rather than a textual value:

System.out.println("char " + ch + " has the following value : " + (int) ch);

In laymans terms, what does 'static' mean in Java?

In very laymen terms the class is a mold and the object is the copy made with that mold. Static belong to the mold and can be accessed directly without making any copies, hence the example above

jdk7 32 bit windows version to download

As detailed in the Oracle Java SE Support Roadmap

After April 2015, Oracle will no longer post updates of Java SE 7 to its public download sites. Existing Java SE 7 downloads already posted as of April 2015 will remain accessible in the Java Archive

Check the Java SE 7 Archive Downloads page. The last release was update 80, therefore the 32-bit filename to download is jdk-7u80-windows-i586.exe (64-bit is named jdk-7u80-windows-x64.exe.

Old Java downloads also require a sign on to an Oracle account now :-( however with some crafty cookie creating one can use wget to grab the file without signing in.

wget --no-cookies --no-check-certificate --header "Cookie: gpw_e24=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.oracle.com%2F; oraclelicense=accept-securebackup-cookie" "http://download.oracle.com/otn-pub/java/jdk/7u80-b15/jdk-7u80-windows-i586.exe"

Online SQL syntax checker conforming to multiple databases

I am willing to bet some of my reputation that there is no such thing.

Partially because if you are worried about cross-platform SQL compatibility, your best bet in turn is to abstract your database code with some API or ORM tool that handles these things for you, and is well supported, so will deal with newer database versions as they come out.

Exact kind of API available to you will be dependent on your programming language/platform. For example, PHP has Pear:DB and others, I personally have found quite nice Python's ORM features implemented in Django framework. I presume there should be some of these things available on other platforms as well.

Google Maps API v3: How to remove all markers?

You mean remove as in hiding them or deleting them?

if hiding:

function clearMarkers() {
            setAllMap(null);
        }

if you wish to delete them:

 function deleteMarkers() {
            clearMarkers();
            markers = [];
        }

notice that I use an array markers to keep track of them and reset it manually.

Does IE9 support console.log, and is it a real function?

How about...

console = { log : function(text) { alert(text); } }

Objective-C Static Class Level variables

On your .m file, you can declare a variable as static:

static ClassName *variableName = nil;

Then you can initialize it on your +(void)initialize method.

Please note that this is a plain C static variable and is not static in the sense Java or C# consider it, but will yield similar results.

Angular 1.6.0: "Possibly unhandled rejection" error

I had this same notice appear after making some changes. It turned out to be because I had changed between a single $http request to multiple requests using angularjs $q service.

I hadn't wrapped them in an array. e.g.

$q.all(request1, request2).then(...)

rather than

$q.all([request1, request2]).then(...)

I hope this might save somebody some time.

How to re-create database for Entity Framework?

Just want to add to the excellent answer of @Lin:

5) B. If you don't have SQL Management Studio, go to "SQL Server Object Explorer". If you cannot see your project db in the localdb "SQL Server Object Explorer", then click on "Add SQL server" button to add it to the list manually. Then you can delete the db from the list.

How to remove index.php from URLs?

If the other solutions don't work for you, try this:

Step 1: (if your installation is in webroot)

Replace

    #RewriteBase /magento/

with

    RewriteBase /

Step 2:

Add following lines (inclusive exclude admin because backend needs index.php internally)

RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} ^.*/index.php
RewriteRule ^(.*)index.php$ http://www.yourdomain.com/$1 [R=301,L]
RewriteRule ^index.php/(admin|user)($|/) - [L]
RewriteRule ^index.php/(.*) $1 [R=301,QSA,L]

right after

RewriteRule .* index.php [L]

This works for me

In case it is still not working, double check Magento configuration: System->Configuration->Web->Search Engine Optimization. Rewrites must be enabled.

Python strptime() and timezones?

I recommend using python-dateutil. Its parser has been able to parse every date format I've thrown at it so far.

>>> from dateutil import parser
>>> parser.parse("Tue Jun 22 07:46:22 EST 2010")
datetime.datetime(2010, 6, 22, 7, 46, 22, tzinfo=tzlocal())
>>> parser.parse("Fri, 11 Nov 2011 03:18:09 -0400")
datetime.datetime(2011, 11, 11, 3, 18, 9, tzinfo=tzoffset(None, -14400))
>>> parser.parse("Sun")
datetime.datetime(2011, 12, 18, 0, 0)
>>> parser.parse("10-11-08")
datetime.datetime(2008, 10, 11, 0, 0)

and so on. No dealing with strptime() format nonsense... just throw a date at it and it Does The Right Thing.

Update: Oops. I missed in your original question that you mentioned that you used dateutil, sorry about that. But I hope this answer is still useful to other people who stumble across this question when they have date parsing questions and see the utility of that module.

Global variable Python classes

What you have is correct, though you will not call it global, it is a class attribute and can be accessed via class e.g Shape.lolwut or via an instance e.g. shape.lolwut but be careful while setting it as it will set an instance level attribute not class attribute

class Shape(object):
    lolwut = 1

shape = Shape()

print Shape.lolwut,  # 1
print shape.lolwut,  # 1

# setting shape.lolwut would not change class attribute lolwut
# but will create it in the instance
shape.lolwut = 2

print Shape.lolwut,  # 1
print shape.lolwut,  # 2

# to change class attribute access it via class
Shape.lolwut = 3

print Shape.lolwut,  # 3
print shape.lolwut   # 2

output:

1 1 1 2 3 2

Somebody may expect output to be 1 1 2 2 3 3 but it would be incorrect

What is com.sun.proxy.$Proxy

What are they?

Nothing special. Just as same as common Java Class Instance.

But those class are Synthetic proxy classes created by java.lang.reflect.Proxy#newProxyInstance

What is there relationship to the JVM? Are they JVM implementation specific?

Introduced in 1.3

http://docs.oracle.com/javase/1.3/docs/relnotes/features.html#reflection

It is a part of Java. so each JVM should support it.

How are they created (Openjdk7 source)?

In short : they are created using JVM ASM tech ( defining javabyte code at runtime )

something using same tech:

What happens after calling java.lang.reflect.Proxy#newProxyInstance

  1. reading the source you can see newProxyInstance call getProxyClass0 to obtain a `Class

    `

  2. after lots of cache or sth it calls the magic ProxyGenerator.generateProxyClass which return a byte[]
  3. call ClassLoader define class to load the generated $Proxy Class (the classname you have seen)
  4. just instance it and ready for use

What happens in magic sun.misc.ProxyGenerator

  1. draw a class(bytecode) combining all methods in the interfaces into one
  2. each method is build with same bytecode like

    1. get calling Method meth info (stored while generating)
    2. pass info into invocation handler's invoke()
    3. get return value from invocation handler's invoke()
    4. just return it
  3. the class(bytecode) represent in form of byte[]

How to draw a class

Thinking your java codes are compiled into bytecodes, just do this at runtime

Talk is cheap show you the code

core method in sun/misc/ProxyGenerator.java

How to create relationships in MySQL

Certain MySQL engines support foreign keys. For example, InnoDB can establish constraints based on foreign keys. If you try to delete an entry in one table that has dependents in another, the delete will fail.

If you are using a table type in MySQL, such as MyISAM, that doesn't support foreign keys, you don't link the tables anywhere except your diagrams and queries.

For example, in a query you link two tables in a select statement with a join:

SELECT a, b from table1 LEFT JOIN table2 USING (common_field);

Address already in use: JVM_Bind java

I was having this problem too. For me, I couldn't start/stop openfire (it said it was stopped, but everything was still running)

sudo /etc/init.d/openfire stop
sudo /etc/init.d/openfire start

Also, restarting apache did not help either

sudo /etc/init.d/apache2 restart

The errors were inside:

/opt/openfire/logs/stderror.log
Error creating server listener on port 5269: Address already in use
Error creating server listener on port 5222: Address already in use

The way I fixed this, I had to actually turn off the server inside the admin area for my host.

Create thumbnail image

This is the code I'm using. Also works for .NET Core > 2.0 using System.Drawing.Common NuGet.

https://www.nuget.org/packages/System.Drawing.Common/

using System;
using System.Drawing;

class Program

Append integer to beginning of list in Python

Note that if you are trying to do that operation often, especially in loops, a list is the wrong data structure.

Lists are not optimized for modifications at the front, and somelist.insert(0, something) is an O(n) operation.

somelist.pop(0) and del somelist[0] are also O(n) operations.

The correct data structure to use is a deque from the collections module. deques expose an interface that is similar to those of lists, but are optimized for modifications from both endpoints. They have an appendleft method for insertions at the front.

Demo:

In [1]: lst = [0]*1000
In [2]: timeit -n1000 lst.insert(0, 1)
1000 loops, best of 3: 794 ns per loop
In [3]: from collections import deque
In [4]: deq = deque([0]*1000)
In [5]: timeit -n1000 deq.appendleft(1)
1000 loops, best of 3: 73 ns per loop

How to run a Runnable thread in Android at defined intervals?

If I understand correctly the documentation of Handler.post() method:

Causes the Runnable r to be added to the message queue. The runnable will be run on the thread to which this handler is attached.

So examples provided by @alex2k8, even though are working correctly, are not the same. In case, where Handler.post() is used, no new threads are created. You just post Runnable to the thread with Handler to be executed by EDT. After that, EDT only executes Runnable.run(), nothing else.

Remember: Runnable != Thread.

Python function pointer

eval(compile(myvar,'<str>','eval'))(myargs)

compile(...,'eval') allows only a single statement, so that there can't be arbitrary commands after a call, or there will be a SyntaxError. Then a tiny bit of validation can at least constrain the expression to something in your power, like testing for 'mypackage' to start.

Converting a string to JSON object

Benefits of using the conditional ?: (ternary) operator

I usually choose a ternary operator when I'd have a lot of duplicate code otherwise.

if (a > 0)
    answer = compute(a, b, c, d, e);
else
    answer = compute(-a, b, c, d, e);

With a ternary operator, this could be accomplished with the following.

answer = compute(a > 0 ? a : -a, b, c, d, e);

Python recursive folder read

import glob
import os

root_dir = <root_dir_here>

for filename in glob.iglob(root_dir + '**/**', recursive=True):
    if os.path.isfile(filename):
        with open(filename,'r') as file:
            print(file.read())

**/** is used to get all files recursively including directory.

if os.path.isfile(filename) is used to check if filename variable is file or directory, if it is file then we can read that file. Here I am printing file.

How to Import .bson file format on mongodb

In mongodb 3.0 or above, we can specify database name to restore. Assuming that you are standing at the root directory that contains bson files

./

Regarding Java switch statements - using return and omitting breaks in each case

Though the question is old enough it still can be referenced nowdays.

Semantically that is exactly what Java 12 introduced (https://openjdk.java.net/jeps/325), thus, exactly in that simple example provided I can't see any problem or cons.

How do I serialize an object and save it to a file in Android?

Complete code with error handling and added file stream closes. Add it to your class that you want to be able to serialize and deserialize. In my case the class name is CreateResumeForm. You should change it to your own class name. Android interface Serializable is not sufficient to save your objects to the file, it only creates streams.

// Constant with a file name
public static String fileName = "createResumeForm.ser";

// Serializes an object and saves it to a file
public void saveToFile(Context context) {
    try {
        FileOutputStream fileOutputStream = context.openFileOutput(fileName, Context.MODE_PRIVATE);
        ObjectOutputStream objectOutputStream = new ObjectOutputStream(fileOutputStream);
        objectOutputStream.writeObject(this);
        objectOutputStream.close();
        fileOutputStream.close();
    } catch (IOException e) {
        e.printStackTrace();
    }
}

// Creates an object by reading it from a file
public static CreateResumeForm readFromFile(Context context) {
    CreateResumeForm createResumeForm = null;
    try {
        FileInputStream fileInputStream = context.openFileInput(fileName);
        ObjectInputStream objectInputStream = new ObjectInputStream(fileInputStream);
        createResumeForm = (CreateResumeForm) objectInputStream.readObject();
        objectInputStream.close();
        fileInputStream.close();
    } catch (IOException e) {
        e.printStackTrace();
    }
    catch (ClassNotFoundException e) {
        e.printStackTrace();
    }
    return createResumeForm;
}

Use it like this in your Activity:

form = CreateResumeForm.readFromFile(this);

Returning a value from callback function in Node.js

If what you want is to get your code working without modifying too much. You can try this solution which gets rid of callbacks and keeps the same code workflow:

Given that you are using Node.js, you can use co and co-request to achieve the same goal without callback concerns.

Basically, you can do something like this:

function doCall(urlToCall) {
  return co(function *(){
    var response = yield urllib.request(urlToCall, { wd: 'nodejs' }); // This is co-request.
    var statusCode = response.statusCode;
    finalData = getResponseJson(statusCode, data.toString());
    return finalData;
  });
}

Then,

var response = yield doCall(urlToCall); // "yield" garuantees the callback finished.
console.log(response) // The response will not be undefined anymore.

By doing this, we wait until the callback function finishes, then get the value from it. Somehow, it solves your problem.

What is the total amount of public IPv4 addresses?

Just a small correction for Marko's answer: exact number can't be produced out of some general calculations straight forward due to the next fact: Valid IP addresses should also not end with binary 0 or 1 sequences that have same length as zero sequence in subnet mask. So the final answer really depends on the total number of subnets (Marko's answer - 2 * total subnet count).

Rotation of 3D vector?

A one-liner, with numpy/scipy functions.

We use the following:

let a be the unit vector along axis, i.e. a = axis/norm(axis)
and A = I × a be the skew-symmetric matrix associated to a, i.e. the cross product of the identity matrix with a

then M = exp(? A) is the rotation matrix.

from numpy import cross, eye, dot
from scipy.linalg import expm, norm

def M(axis, theta):
    return expm(cross(eye(3), axis/norm(axis)*theta))

v, axis, theta = [3,5,0], [4,4,1], 1.2
M0 = M(axis, theta)

print(dot(M0,v))
# [ 2.74911638  4.77180932  1.91629719]

expm (code here) computes the taylor series of the exponential:
\sum_{k=0}^{20} \frac{1}{k!} (? A)^k , so it's time expensive, but readable and secure. It can be a good way if you have few rotations to do but a lot of vectors.

XPath Query: get attribute href from a tag

The answer shared by @mockinterface is correct. Although I would like to add my 2 cents to it.

If someone is using frameworks like scrapy the you will have to use /html/body//a[contains(@href,'com')][2]/@href along with get() like this:

response.xpath('//a[contains(@href,'com')][2]/@href').get()

Cannot open Windows.h in Microsoft Visual Studio

1) Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v7.1A for VS2013

2) Copy the folders Include and Lib (you should check where are your folders in folder windows such as v7.1, v8, v6, etc.)

3) Paste them into C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 12.0\VC

I solved my problems like:

error lnk1104: cannot open file 'kernel32.lib'.
error c1083: Cannot open Windows.h

In Python How can I declare a Dynamic Array

you can declare a Numpy array dynamically for 1 dimension as shown below:

import numpy as np

n = 2
new_table = np.empty(shape=[n,1])

new_table[0,0] = 2
new_table[1,0] = 3
print(new_table)

The above example assumes we know we need to have 1 column but we want to allocate the number of rows dynamically (in this case the number or rows required is equal to 2)

output is shown below:

[[2.] [3.]]

Insert Multiple Rows Into Temp Table With SQL Server 2012

When using SQLFiddle, make sure that the separator is set to GO. Also the schema build script is executed in a different connection from the run script, so a temp table created in the one is not visible in the other. This fiddle shows that your code is valid and working in SQL 2012:

How to submit an HTML form without redirection

Okay, I'm not going to tell you a magical way of doing it because there isn't. If you have an action attribute set for a form element, it will redirect.

If you don't want it to redirect simply don't set any action and set onsubmit="someFunction();"

In your someFunction() you do whatever you want, (with AJAX or not) and in the ending, you add return false; to tell the browser not to submit the form...

Which ChromeDriver version is compatible with which Chrome Browser version?

Compatibility matrix

Here is a chart of the compatibility between chromedriver and chrome. This information can be found at the Chromedriver downloads page.

2.25            54+
2.24            53+
2.22            51+
2.19            44+
2.15            42+

After 2.46, the ChromeDriver major version matches Chrome

chromedriver    chrome
76.0.3809.68    76
75.0.3770.140   75
74.0.3729.6     74
73.0.3683.68    73

It seems compatibility is only guaranteed within that revision.

If you need to run chromedriver across multiple versions of chrome for some reason, well, plug the latest version number of chrome you're using into the Chromedriver version selection guide, then hope for the best. Actual compatibility will depend on the exact versions involved and what features you're using.

All versions are not cross-compatible.

For example, we had a bug today where chromedriver 2.33 was trying to run this on Chrome 65:

((ChromeDriver) driver).findElement(By.id("firstName")).sendKeys("hello")

Due to the navigation changes in Chrome 63, updated in Chromedriver 2.34, we got back

unknown error: call function result missing 'value'

Updating to Chromedriver 2.37 fixed the issue.

How to add List<> to a List<> in asp.net

Use .AddRange to append any Enumrable collection to the list.

PHP: Convert any string to UTF-8 without knowing the original character set, or at least try

The main problem for me is that I don't know what encoding the source of any string is going to be - it could be from a text box (using is only useful if the user is actually submitted the form), or it could be from an uploaded text file, so I really have no control over the input.

I don't think it's a problem. An application knows the source of the input. If it's from a form, use UTF-8 encoding in your case. That works. Just verify the data provided is correctly encoded (validation). Keep in mind that not all databases support UTF-8 in it's full range.

If it's a file you won't save it UTF-8 encoded into the database but in binary form. When you output the file again, use binary output as well, then this is totally transparent.

Your idea is nice that a user can tell the encoding, be he/she can tell anyway after downloading the file, as it's binary.

So I must admit I don't see a specific issue you raise with your question. But maybe you can add some more details what your problem is.

How do you create a custom AuthorizeAttribute in ASP.NET Core?

It seems that with ASP.NET Core 2, you can again inherit AuthorizeAttribute, you just need to also implement IAuthorizationFilter (or IAsyncAuthorizationFilter):

[AttributeUsage(AttributeTargets.Class | AttributeTargets.Method, AllowMultiple = true, Inherited = true)]
public class CustomAuthorizeAttribute : AuthorizeAttribute, IAuthorizationFilter
{
    private readonly string _someFilterParameter;

    public CustomAuthorizeAttribute(string someFilterParameter)
    {
        _someFilterParameter = someFilterParameter;
    }

    public void OnAuthorization(AuthorizationFilterContext context)
    {
        var user = context.HttpContext.User;

        if (!user.Identity.IsAuthenticated)
        {
            // it isn't needed to set unauthorized result
            // as the base class already requires the user to be authenticated
            // this also makes redirect to a login page work properly
            // context.Result = new UnauthorizedResult();
            return;
        }

        // you can also use registered services
        var someService = context.HttpContext.RequestServices.GetService<ISomeService>();

        var isAuthorized = someService.IsUserAuthorized(user.Identity.Name, _someFilterParameter);
        if (!isAuthorized)
        {
            context.Result = new StatusCodeResult((int)System.Net.HttpStatusCode.Forbidden);
            return;
        }
    }
}

Best way to find if an item is in a JavaScript array?

Here's some meta-knowledge for you - if you want to know what you can do with an Array, check the documentation - here's the Array page for Mozilla

https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/JavaScript/Reference/Global_Objects/Array

There you'll see reference to indexOf, added in Javascript 1.6

What does it mean when Statement.executeUpdate() returns -1?

As the statement executed is not actually DML (eg UPDATE, INSERT or EXECUTE), but a piece of T-SQL which contains DML, I suspect it is not treated as an update-query.

Section 13.1.2.3 of the JDBC 4.1 specification states something (rather hard to interpret btw):

When the method execute returns true, the method getResultSet is called to retrieve the ResultSet object. When execute returns false, the method getUpdateCount returns an int. If this number is greater than or equal to zero, it indicates the update count returned by the statement. If it is -1, it indicates that there are no more results.

Given this information, I guess that executeUpdate() internally does an execute(), and then - as execute() will return false - it will return the value of getUpdateCount(), which in this case - in accordance with the JDBC spec - will return -1.

This is further corroborated by the fact 1) that the Javadoc for Statement.executeUpdate() says:

Returns: either (1) the row count for SQL Data Manipulation Language (DML) statements or (2) 0 for SQL statements that return nothing

And 2) that the Javadoc for Statement.getUpdateCount() specifies:

the current result as an update count; -1 if the current result is a ResultSet object or there are no more results

Just to clarify: given the Javadoc for executeUpdate() the behavior is probably wrong, but it can be explained.

Also as I commented elsewhere, the -1 might just indicate: maybe something was changed, but we simply don't know, or we can't give an accurate number of changes (eg because in this example it is a piece of T-SQL that is executed).

fast way to copy formatting in excel

Remember that when you write:

MyArray = Range("A1:A5000")

you are really writing

MyArray = Range("A1:A5000").Value

You can also use names:

MyArray = Names("MyWSTable").RefersToRange.Value

But Value is not the only property of Range. I have used:

MyArray = Range("A1:A5000").NumberFormat

I doubt

MyArray = Range("A1:A5000").Font

would work but I would expect

MyArray = Range("A1:A5000").Font.Bold

to work.

I do not know what formats you want to copy so you will have to try.

However, I must add that when you copy and paste a large range, it is not as much slower than doing it via an array as we all thought.

Post Edit information

Having posted the above I tried by own advice. My experiments with copying Font.Color and Font.Bold to an array have failed.

Of the following statements, the second would fail with a type mismatch:

  ValueArray = .Range("A1:T5000").Value
  ColourArray = .Range("A1:T5000").Font.Color

ValueArray must be of type variant. I tried both variant and long for ColourArray without success.

I filled ColourArray with values and tried the following statement:

  .Range("A1:T5000").Font.Color = ColourArray

The entire range would be coloured according to the first element of ColourArray and then Excel looped consuming about 45% of the processor time until I terminated it with the Task Manager.

There is a time penalty associated with switching between worksheets but recent questions about macro duration have caused everyone to review our belief that working via arrays was substantially quicker.

I constructed an experiment that broadly reflects your requirement. I filled worksheet Time1 with 5000 rows of 20 cells which were selectively formatted as: bold, italic, underline, subscript, bordered, red, green, blue, brown, yellow and gray-80%.

With version 1, I copied every 7th cells from worksheet "Time1" to worksheet "Time2" using copy.

With version 2, I copied every 7th cells from worksheet "Time1" to worksheet "Time2" by copying the value and the colour via an array.

With version 3, I copied every 7th cells from worksheet "Time1" to worksheet "Time2" by copying the formula and the colour via an array.

Version 1 took an average of 12.43 seconds, version 2 took an average of 1.47 seconds while version 3 took an average of 1.83 seconds. Version 1 copied formulae and all formatting, version 2 copied values and colour while version 3 copied formulae and colour. With versions 1 and 2 you could add bold and italic, say, and still have some time in hand. However, I am not sure it would be worth the bother given that copying 21,300 values only takes 12 seconds.

The User type definition must be placed before any subroutine in the module. The code works through the source worksheet copying values or formulae and colours to the next element of the array. Once selection has been completed, it copies the collected information to the destination worksheet. This avoids switching between worksheets more than is essential.

CSS: Truncate table cells, but fit as much as possible

Use some css hack, it seems the display: table-column; can come to rescue:

<div class="myTable">
    <div class="flexibleCell">A very long piece of content in first cell, long enough that it would normally wrap into multiple lines.</div>
    <div class="staticCell">Less content</div>
</div>

.myTable {
    display: table;
    width: 100%;
}

.myTable:before {
    display: table-column;
    width: 100%;
    content: '';
}

.flexibleCell {
    display: table-cell;
    max-width:1px;
    white-space: nowrap;
    text-overflow:ellipsis;
    overflow: hidden;
}

.staticCell {

Best Practices for mapping one object to another

Efran Cobisi's suggestion of using an Auto Mapper is a good one. I have used Auto Mapper for a while and it worked well, until I found the much faster alternative, Mapster.

Given a large list or IEnumerable, Mapster outperforms Auto Mapper. I found a benchmark somewhere that showed Mapster being 6 times as fast, but I could not find it again. You could look it up and then, if it is suits you, use Mapster.

The fine docs say

[Now the rot_13] codec provides a text transform: a str to str mapping. It is not supported by str.encode() (which only produces bytes output).

Or, in other words, you have to import encode from the codecs module and use it with the string to be encoded as its first argument

from codecs import decode
...
    print(encode(phrase, 'rot13'))

Can I embed a custom font in an iPhone application?

yes you can use custom font in your application

step by step following there:

Add your custom font files into your project in supporting files

Add a key to your Info.plist file called UIAppFonts.

Make this key an array

For each font you have, enter the full name of your font file (including the extension) as items to the UIAppFonts array

Save Info.plist Now in your application you can simply call [UIFont fontWithName:@"your Custom font Name" size:20] to get the custom font to use with your UILabels after applying this if your not getting correct font then you double click on the custom font , and see carefully top side font name is comming and copy this font , paste, here [UIFont fontWithName:@" here past your Custom font Name" size:20]

i hope you will get correct answer

div#wrapperHeader {
 width:100%;
 height;200px; /* height of the background image? */
 background:url(images/header.png) repeat-x 0 0;
 text-align:center;
}

div#wrapperHeader div#header {

}

div#wrapperHeader div#header img {

R: "Unary operator error" from multiline ggplot2 command

This is a well-known nuisance when posting multiline commands in R. (You can get different behavior when you source() a script to when you copy-and-paste the lines, both with multiline and comments)

Rule: always put the dangling '+' at the end of a line so R knows the command is unfinished:

ggplot(...) + geom_whatever1(...) +
  geom_whatever2(...) +
  stat_whatever3(...) +
  geom_title(...) + scale_y_log10(...)

Don't put the dangling '+' at the start of the line, since that tickles the error:

Error in "+ geom_whatever2(...) invalid argument to unary operator"

And obviously don't put dangling '+' at both end and start since that's a syntax error.

So, learn a habit of being consistent: always put '+' at end-of-line.

cf. answer to "Split code over multiple lines in an R script"

Undefined reference to 'vtable for xxx'

One or more of your .cpp files is not being linked in, or some non-inline functions in some class are not defined. In particular, takeaway::textualGame()'s implementation can't be found. Note that you've defined a textualGame() at toplevel, but this is distinct from a takeaway::textualGame() implementation - probably you just forgot the takeaway:: there.

What the error means is that the linker can't find the "vtable" for a class - every class with virtual functions has a "vtable" data structure associated with it. In GCC, this vtable is generated in the same .cpp file as the first listed non-inline member of the class; if there's no non-inline members, it will be generated wherever you instantiate the class, I believe. So you're probably failing to link the .cpp file with that first-listed non-inline member, or never defining that member in the first place.

How do I combine 2 javascript variables into a string

You can use the JavaScript String concat() Method,

var str1 = "Hello ";
var str2 = "world!";
var res = str1.concat(str2); //will return "Hello world!"

Its syntax is:

string.concat(string1, string2, ..., stringX)

Gradle proxy configuration

In case my I try to set up proxy from android studio Appearance & Behaviour => System Settings => HTTP Proxy. But the proxy did not worked out so I click no proxy.

Checking NO PROXY will not remove the proxy setting from the gradle.properties(Global). You need to manually remove it.

So I remove all the properties starting with systemProp for example - systemProp.http.nonProxyHosts=*.local, localhost

docker mounting volumes on host

Let me add my own answer, because I believe the others are missing the point of Docker.

Using VOLUME in the Dockerfile is the Right Way™, because you let Docker know that a certain directory contains permanent data. Docker will create a volume for that data and never delete it, even if you remove all the containers that use it.

It also bypasses the union file system, so that the volume is in fact an actual directory that gets mounted (read-write or readonly) in the right place in all the containers that share it.

Now, in order to access that data from the host, you only need to inspect your container:

# docker inspect myapp
[{
    .
    .
    .
    "Volumes": {
        "/var/www": "/var/lib/docker/vfs/dir/b3ef4bc28fb39034dd7a3aab00e086e6...",
        "/var/cache/nginx": "/var/lib/docker/vfs/dir/62499e6b31cb3f7f59bf00d8a16b48d2...",
        "/var/log/nginx": "/var/lib/docker/vfs/dir/71896ce364ef919592f4e99c6e22ce87..."
    },
    "VolumesRW": {
        "/var/www": false,
        "/var/cache/nginx": true,
        "/var/log/nginx": true
    }
}]

What I usually do is make symlinks in some standard place such as /srv, so that I can easily access the volumes and manage the data they contain (only for the volumes you care about):

ln -s /var/lib/docker/vfs/dir/b3ef4bc28fb39034dd7a3aab00e086e6... /srv/myapp-www
ln -s /var/lib/docker/vfs/dir/71896ce364ef919592f4e99c6e22ce87... /srv/myapp-log

Android: How do bluetooth UUIDs work?

The UUID is used for uniquely identifying information. It identifies a particular service provided by a Bluetooth device. The standard defines a basic BASE_UUID: 00000000-0000-1000-8000-00805F9B34FB.

Devices such as healthcare sensors can provide a service, substituting the first eight digits with a predefined code. For example, a device that offers an RFCOMM connection uses the short code: 0x0003

So, an Android phone can connect to a device and then use the Service Discovery Protocol (SDP) to find out what services it provides (UUID).

In many cases, you don't need to use these fixed UUIDs. In the case your are creating a chat application, for example, one Android phone interacts with another Android phone that uses the same application and hence the same UUID.

So, you can set an arbitrary UUID for your application using, for example, one of the many random UUID generators on the web (for example).

Input placeholders for Internet Explorer

I came up with a simple placeholder JQuery script that allows a custom color and uses a different behavior of clearing inputs when focused. It replaces the default placeholder in Firefox and Chrome and adds support for IE8.

// placeholder script IE8, Chrome, Firefox
// usage: <input type="text" placeholder="some str" />
$(function () {
    var textColor = '#777777'; //custom color

    $('[placeholder]').each(function() {
        (this).attr('tooltip', $(this).attr('placeholder')); //buffer

        if ($(this).val() === '' || $(this).val() === $(this).attr('placeholder')) {
            $(this).css('color', textColor).css('font-style','italic');
            $(this).val($(this).attr('placeholder')); //IE8 compatibility
        }

        $(this).attr('placeholder',''); //disable default behavior

        $(this).on('focus', function() {
            if ($(this).val() === $(this).attr('tooltip')) {
                $(this).val('');
            }
        });

        $(this).on('keydown', function() {
            $(this).css('font-style','normal').css('color','#000');
        });

        $(this).on('blur', function() {
            if ($(this).val()  === '') {
                $(this).val($(this).attr('tooltip')).css('color', textColor).css('font-style','italic');
            }
        });
    });
});

Case-insensitive search in Rails model

There are lots of great answers here, particularly @oma's. But one other thing you could try is to use custom column serialization. If you don't mind everything being stored lowercase in your db then you could create:

# lib/serializers/downcasing_string_serializer.rb
module Serializers
  class DowncasingStringSerializer
    def self.load(value)
      value
    end

    def self.dump(value)
      value.downcase
    end
  end
end

Then in your model:

# app/models/my_model.rb
serialize :name, Serializers::DowncasingStringSerializer
validates_uniqueness_of :name, :case_sensitive => false

The benefit of this approach is that you can still use all the regular finders (including find_or_create_by) without using custom scopes, functions, or having lower(name) = ? in your queries.

The downside is that you lose casing information in the database.

How stable is the git plugin for eclipse?

It still seems barely usable, to tell the truth, especially in comparison to the CVS and SVN plugins. Is it really GIT so different that developer with four years of CVS and SVN plugin experience should be completely lost with completely different GUI, unheard commands, two or even single word error messages and "features" like overwriting the shared repository without warning? Do not use it, use command line interface. If you do not like command line interface, do not use GIT at all.

How to Truncate a string in PHP to the word closest to a certain number of characters?

$WidgetText = substr($string, 0, strrpos(substr($string, 0, 200), ' '));

And there you have it — a reliable method of truncating any string to the nearest whole word, while staying under the maximum string length.

I've tried the other examples above and they did not produce the desired results.

Writing BMP image in pure c/c++ without other libraries

If you get strange colors switches in the middle of your image using the above C++ function. Be sure to open the outstream in binary mode: imgFile.open(filename, std::ios_base::out | std::ios_base::binary);
Otherwise windows inserts unwanted characters in the middle of your file! (been banging my head on this issue for hours)

See related question here: Why does ofstream insert a 0x0D byte before 0x0A?

Creating a data frame from two vectors using cbind

Using data.frame instead of cbind should be helpful

x <- data.frame(col1=c(10, 20), col2=c("[]", "[]"), col3=c("[[1,2]]","[[1,3]]"))
x
  col1 col2    col3
1   10   [] [[1,2]]
2   20   [] [[1,3]]

sapply(x, class) # looking into x to see the class of each element
     col1      col2      col3
"numeric"  "factor"  "factor"

As you can see elements from col1 are numeric as you wish.

data.frame can have variables of different class: numeric, factor and character but matrix doesn't, once you put a character element into a matrix all the other will become into this class no matter what clase they were before.

Having issues with a MySQL Join that needs to meet multiple conditions

You can group conditions with parentheses. When you are checking if a field is equal to another, you want to use OR. For example WHERE a='1' AND (b='123' OR b='234').

FROM rooms AS u
JOIN facilities_r AS fu
ON fu.id_uc = u.id_uc AND (fu.id_fu='4' OR fu.id_fu='3')
WHERE vizibility='1'
GROUP BY id_uc
ORDER BY u_premium desc, id_uc desc

When must we use NVARCHAR/NCHAR instead of VARCHAR/CHAR in SQL Server?

You should use NVARCHAR anytime you have to store multiple languages. I believe you have to use it for the Asian languages but don't quote me on it.

Here's the problem if you take Russian for example and store it in a varchar, you will be fine so long as you define the correct code page. But let's say your using a default english sql install, then the russian characters will not be handled correctly. If you were using NVARCHAR() they would be handled properly.

Edit

Ok let me quote MSDN and maybee I was to specific but you don't want to store more then one code page in a varcar column, while you can you shouldn't

When you deal with text data that is stored in the char, varchar, varchar(max), or text data type, the most important limitation to consider is that only information from a single code page can be validated by the system. (You can store data from multiple code pages, but this is not recommended.) The exact code page used to validate and store the data depends on the collation of the column. If a column-level collation has not been defined, the collation of the database is used. To determine the code page that is used for a given column, you can use the COLLATIONPROPERTY function, as shown in the following code examples:

Here's some more:

This example illustrates the fact that many locales, such as Georgian and Hindi, do not have code pages, as they are Unicode-only collations. Those collations are not appropriate for columns that use the char, varchar, or text data type

So Georgian or Hindi really need to be stored as nvarchar. Arabic is also a problem:

Another problem you might encounter is the inability to store data when not all of the characters you wish to support are contained in the code page. In many cases, Windows considers a particular code page to be a "best fit" code page, which means there is no guarantee that you can rely on the code page to handle all text; it is merely the best one available. An example of this is the Arabic script: it supports a wide array of languages, including Baluchi, Berber, Farsi, Kashmiri, Kazakh, Kirghiz, Pashto, Sindhi, Uighur, Urdu, and more. All of these languages have additional characters beyond those in the Arabic language as defined in Windows code page 1256. If you attempt to store these extra characters in a non-Unicode column that has the Arabic collation, the characters are converted into question marks.

Something to keep in mind when you are using Unicode although you can store different languages in a single column you can only sort using a single collation. There are some languages that use latin characters but do not sort like other latin languages. Accents is a good example of this, I can't remeber the example but there was a eastern european language whose Y didn't sort like the English Y. Then there is the spanish ch which spanish users expet to be sorted after h.

All in all with all the issues you have to deal with when dealing with internalitionalization. It is my opinion that is easier to just use Unicode characters from the start, avoid the extra conversions and take the space hit. Hence my statement earlier.

Is there a Google Keep API?

No there isn't. If you watch the http traffic and dump the page source you can see that there is an API below the covers, but it's not published nor available for 3rd party apps.

Check this link: https://developers.google.com/gsuite/products for updates.

However, there is an unofficial Python API under active development: https://github.com/kiwiz/gkeepapi

How to restart Activity in Android

I used this code so I still could support older Android versions and use recreate() on newer Android versions.

Code:

This is my code when i stop and start service in activity

case R.id.buttonStart:
  Log.d(TAG, "onClick: starting srvice");
  startService(new Intent(this, MyService.class));
  break;
case R.id.buttonStop:
  Log.d(TAG, "onClick: stopping srvice");
  stopService(new Intent(this, MyService.class));
  break;
}
}
 }

And in service class:

  @Override
public void onCreate() {
    Toast.makeText(this, "My Service Created", Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show();
    Log.d(TAG, "onCreate");

    player = MediaPlayer.create(this, R.raw.braincandy);
    player.setLooping(false); // Set looping
}

@Override
public void onDestroy() {
    Toast.makeText(this, "My Service Stopped", Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show();
    Log.d(TAG, "onDestroy");
    player.stop();
}

Sorting an array of objects by property values

homes.sort(function(a, b){
  var nameA=a.prices.toLowerCase(), nameB=b.prices.toLowerCase()
  if (nameA < nameB) //sort string ascending
    return -1
  if (nameA > nameB)
    return 1
  return 0 //default return value (no sorting)
})

Create an array with same element repeated multiple times

You can also extend the functionality of Array like so:

Array.prototype.fill = function(val){
    for (var i = 0; i < this.length; i++){
        this[i] = val;
    }
    return this;
};
// used like:
var arry = new Array(5)?.fill(2);
// or
var arry = new Array(5);
arry.fill(2);

?console.log(arry);? //[2, 2, 2, 2, 2]

I should note that extending the functionality of built-in objects can cause problems if you are working with 3rd-party libraries. Always weigh this into your decisions.

Set inputType for an EditText Programmatically?

According to the TextView docs, the programmatic version of android:password is setTransformationMethod(), not setInputType(). So something like:

mEdit.setTransformationMethod(PasswordTransformationMethod.getInstance());

should do the trick.

When is it acceptable to call GC.Collect?

Since there are Small object heap(SOH) and Large object heap(LOH)

We can call GC.Collect() to clear de-reference object in SOP, and move lived object to next generation.

In .net4.5, we can also compact LOH by using largeobjectheapcompactionmode

Git - How to use .netrc file on Windows to save user and password

I am posting a way to use _netrc to download materials from the site www.course.com.

If someone is going to use the coursera-dl to download the open-class materials on www.coursera.com, and on the Windows OS someone wants to use a file like ".netrc" which is in like-Unix OS to add the option -n instead of -U <username> -P <password> for convenience. He/she can do it like this:

  1. Check the home path on Windows OS: setx HOME %USERPROFILE%(refer to VonC's answer). It will save the HOME environment variable as C:\Users\"username".

  2. Locate into the directory C:\Users\"username" and create a file name _netrc.NOTE: there is NOT any suffix. the content is like: machine coursera-dl login <user> password <pass>

  3. Use a command like coursera-dl -n --path PATH <course name> to download the class materials. More coursera-dl options details for this page.

Enable & Disable a Div and its elements in Javascript

The following selects all descendant elements and disables them:

$("#dcacl").find("*").prop("disabled", true);

But it only really makes sense to disable certain element types: inputs, buttons, etc., so you want a more specific selector:

$("#dcac1").find(":input").prop("disabled",true);
// noting that ":input" gives you the equivalent of
$("#dcac1").find("input,select,textarea,button").prop("disabled",true);

To re-enable you just set "disabled" to false.

I want to Disable them at loading the page and then by a click i can enable them

OK, so put the above code in a document ready handler, and setup an appropriate click handler:

$(document).ready(function() {
    var $dcac1kids = $("#dcac1").find(":input");
    $dcac1kids.prop("disabled",true);

    // not sure what you want to click on to re-enable
    $("selector for whatever you want to click").one("click",function() {
       $dcac1kids.prop("disabled",false);
    }
}

I've cached the results of the selector on the assumption that you're not adding more elements to the div between the page load and the click. And I've attached the click handler with .one() since you haven't specified a requirement to re-disable the elements so presumably the event only needs to be handled once. Of course you can change the .one() to .click() if appropriate.

How to Reload ReCaptcha using JavaScript?

if you are using new recaptcha 2.0 use this: for code behind:

ScriptManager.RegisterStartupScript(this, this.GetType(), "CaptchaReload", "$.getScript(\"https://www.google.com/recaptcha/api.js\", function () {});", true);

for simple javascript

<script>$.getScript(\"https://www.google.com/recaptcha/api.js\", function () {});</script>

Angular.js programmatically setting a form field to dirty

you will have to manually set $dirty to true and $pristine to false for the field. If you want the classes to appear on your input, then you will have to manually add ng-dirty and remove ng-pristine classes from the element. You can use $setDirty() on the form level to do all of this on the form itself, but not the form inputs, form inputs do not currently have $setDirty() as you mentioned.

This answer may change in the future as they should add $setDirty() to inputs, seems logical.

How to check if $_GET is empty?

Here are 3 different methods to check this

<?php
//Method 1
if(!empty($_GET))
echo "exist";
else
echo "do not exist";
//Method 2
echo "<br>";
if($_GET)
echo "exist";
else
echo "do not exist";
//Method 3
if(count($_GET))
echo "exist";
else
echo "do not exist";
?>

Check if an excel cell exists on another worksheet in a column - and return the contents of a different column

You can use following formulas.

For Excel 2007 or later:

=IFERROR(VLOOKUP(D3,List!A:C,3,FALSE),"No Match")

For Excel 2003:

=IF(ISERROR(MATCH(D3,List!A:A, 0)), "No Match", VLOOKUP(D3,List!A:C,3,FALSE))

Note, that

  • I'm using List!A:C in VLOOKUP and returns value from column ? 3
  • I'm using 4th argument for VLOOKUP equals to FALSE, in that case VLOOKUP will only find an exact match, and the values in the first column of List!A:C do not need to be sorted (opposite to case when you're using TRUE).

Where's the IE7/8/9/10-emulator in IE11 dev tools?

I posted an answer to this already when someone else asked the same question (see How to bring back "Browser mode" in IE11?).

Read my answer there for a fuller explaination, but in short:

  • They removed it deliberately, because compat mode is not actually really very good for testing compatibility.

  • If you really want to test for compatibility with any given version of IE, you need to test in a real copy of that IE version. MS provide free VMs on http://modern.ie/ for you to use for this purpose.

  • The only way to get compat mode in IE11 is to set the X-UA-Compatible header. When you have this and the site defaults to compat mode, you will be able to set the mode in dev tools, but only between edge or the specified compat mode; other modes will still not be available.

How do I automatically set the $DISPLAY variable for my current session?

do you use Bash? Go to the file .bashrc in your home directory and set the variable, then export it.

DISPLAY=localhost:0.0 ; export DISPLAY

you can use /etc/bashrc if you want to do it for all the users.

You may also want to look in ~/.bash_profile and /etc/profile

How to update two tables in one statement in SQL Server 2005?

This works for MySQL and is really just an implicit transaction but it should go something like this:

UPDATE Table1 t1, Table2 t2 SET
t2.field = t2.field+2,
t1.field = t1.field+2

WHERE t1.id = t2.foreign_id and t2.id = '123414'

if you are doing updates to multi tables that require multi statements… which is likely possible if you update one, then another based on other conditions… you should use a transaction.

Deleting an element from an array in PHP

To avoid doing a search one can play around with array_diff:

$array = array(3, 9, 11, 20);
$array = array_diff($array, array(11) ); // removes 11

In this case one doesn't have to search/use the key.

How to extract the nth word and count word occurrences in a MySQL string?

According to http://dev.mysql.com/ the SUBSTRING function uses start position then the length so surely the function for the second word would be:

SUBSTRING(sentence,LOCATE(' ',sentence),(LOCATE(' ',LOCATE(' ',sentence))-LOCATE(' ',sentence)))

Simple way to count character occurrences in a string

Something a bit more functional, without Regex:

public static int count(String s, char c) {
    return s.length()==0 ? 0 : (s.charAt(0)==c ? 1 : 0) + count(s.substring(1),c);
}

It's no tail recursive, for the sake of clarity.

Generate preview image from Video file?

Two ways come to mind:

  • Using a command-line tool like the popular ffmpeg, however you will almost always need an own server (or a very nice server administrator / hosting company) to get that

  • Using the "screenshoot" plugin for the LongTail Video player that allows the creation of manual screenshots that are then sent to a server-side script.

print len(item_dict['result'][0]['run'])

Convert it in dict.

Center Triangle at Bottom of Div

Can't you just set left to 50% and then have margin-left set to -25px to account for it's width: http://jsfiddle.net/9AbYc/

.hero:after {
    content:'';
    position: absolute;
    top: 100%;
    left: 50%;
    margin-left: -50px;
    width: 0;
    height: 0;
    border-top: solid 50px #e15915;
    border-left: solid 50px transparent;
    border-right: solid 50px transparent;
}

or if you needed a variable width you could use: http://jsfiddle.net/9AbYc/1/

.hero:after {
    content:'';
    position: absolute;
    top: 100%;
    left: 0;
    right: 0;

    width: 0;
    height: 0;

How can I install a .ipa file to my iPhone simulator

For Xcode 10, here's an easy way that worked for me for a debug IPA (development profiles)

  1. Unzip the IPA to get the Payload folder.
  2. Within the Payload folder is the app executable.
  3. Drag and drop the app to an open simulator. (You might see a green add button when you drag it over the simulator)

It should install that app on that simulator.

            gzip.close();
            return URLEncoder.encode(out.toString("ISO-8859-1"), "UTF-8");
        } catch (IOException e) {

    }

decompress:

    public static String decompress(String str, String outEncoding) {
        if (str == null || str.length() == 0) {
            return str;
        }

Can a JSON value contain a multiline string

Per the specification, the JSON grammar's char production can take the following values:

  • any-Unicode-character-except-"-or-\-or-control-character
  • \"
  • \\
  • \/
  • \b
  • \f
  • \n
  • \r
  • \t
  • \u four-hex-digits

Newlines are "control characters", so no, you may not have a literal newline within your string. However, you may encode it using whatever combination of \n and \r you require.

The JSONLint tool confirms that your JSON is invalid.

And, if you want to write newlines inside your JSON syntax without actually including newlines in the data, then you're doubly out of luck. While JSON is intended to be human-friendly to a degree, it is still data and you're trying to apply arbitrary formatting to that data. That is absolutely not what JSON is about.

How to convert string to string[]?

A string is one string, a string[] is a string array. It means it's a variable with multiple strings in it.

Although you can convert a string to a string[] (create a string array with one element in it), it's probably a sign that you're trying to do something which you shouldn't do.

Using a PHP variable in a text input value = statement

You need, for example:

<input type="text" name="idtest" value="<?php echo $idtest; ?>" />

The echo function is what actually outputs the value of the variable.

What are the differences between .gitignore and .gitkeep?

.gitkeep isn’t documented, because it’s not a feature of Git.

Git cannot add a completely empty directory. People who want to track empty directories in Git have created the convention of putting files called .gitkeep in these directories. The file could be called anything; Git assigns no special significance to this name.

There is a competing convention of adding a .gitignore file to the empty directories to get them tracked, but some people see this as confusing since the goal is to keep the empty directories, not ignore them; .gitignore is also used to list files that should be ignored by Git when looking for untracked files.

Complementing the answer from @Nishant,the best way to return the activity result is:

Intent returnIntent = getIntent();

finish();

I was having problem with

new Intent();

Then I found out that the correct way is using

getIntent();

to get the current intent

How to add an object to an array

First of all, there is no object or array. There are Object and Array. Secondly, you can do that:

a = new Array();
b = new Object();
a[0] = b;

Now a will be an array with b as its only element.

Must JDBC Resultsets and Statements be closed separately although the Connection is closed afterwards?

Doesn't matter if Connection is poolable or not. Even poolable connection has to clean before returning to the pool.

"Clean" usually means closing resultsets & rolling back any pending transactions but not closing the connection. Otherwise pooling looses its sense.

pandas create new column based on values from other columns / apply a function of multiple columns, row-wise

Since this is the first Google result for 'pandas new column from others', here's a simple example:

import pandas as pd

# make a simple dataframe
df = pd.DataFrame({'a':[1,2], 'b':[3,4]})
df
#    a  b
# 0  1  3
# 1  2  4

# create an unattached column with an index
df.apply(lambda row: row.a + row.b, axis=1)
# 0    4
# 1    6

# do same but attach it to the dataframe
df['c'] = df.apply(lambda row: row.a + row.b, axis=1)
df
#    a  b  c
# 0  1  3  4
# 1  2  4  6

If you get the SettingWithCopyWarning you can do it this way also:

fn = lambda row: row.a + row.b # define a function for the new column
col = df.apply(fn, axis=1) # get column data with an index
df = df.assign(c=col.values) # assign values to column 'c'

Source: https://stackoverflow.com/a/12555510/243392

And if your column name includes spaces you can use syntax like this:

df = df.assign(**{'some column name': col.values})

And here's the documentation for apply, and assign.

Placing Unicode character in CSS content value

Why don't you just save/serve the CSS file as UTF-8?

nav a:hover:after {
    content: "?";
}

If that's not good enough, and you want to keep it all-ASCII:

nav a:hover:after {
    content: "\2193";
}

The general format for a Unicode character inside a string is \000000 to \FFFFFF – a backslash followed by six hexadecimal digits. You can leave out leading 0 digits when the Unicode character is the last character in the string or when you add a space after the Unicode character. See the spec below for full details.

Relevant part of the CSS2 spec:

Third, backslash escapes allow authors to refer to characters they cannot easily put in a document. In this case, the backslash is followed by at most six hexadecimal digits (0..9A..F), which stand for the ISO 10646 ([ISO10646]) character with that number, which must not be zero. (It is undefined in CSS 2.1 what happens if a style sheet does contain a character with Unicode codepoint zero.) If a character in the range [0-9a-fA-F] follows the hexadecimal number, the end of the number needs to be made clear. There are two ways to do that:

  1. with a space (or other white space character): "\26 B" ("&B"). In this case, user agents should treat a "CR/LF" pair (U+000D/U+000A) as a single white space character.
  2. by providing exactly 6 hexadecimal digits: "\000026B" ("&B")

In fact, these two methods may be combined. Only one white space character is ignored after a hexadecimal escape. Note that this means that a "real" space after the escape sequence must be doubled.

If the number is outside the range allowed by Unicode (e.g., "\110000" is above the maximum 10FFFF allowed in current Unicode), the UA may replace the escape with the "replacement character" (U+FFFD). If the character is to be displayed, the UA should show a visible symbol, such as a "missing character" glyph (cf. 15.2, point 5).

  • Note: Backslash escapes are always considered to be part of an identifier or a string (i.e., "\7B" is not punctuation, even though "{" is, and "\32" is allowed at the start of a class name, even though "2" is not).
    The identifier "te\st" is exactly the same identifier as "test".

Comprehensive list: Unicode Character 'DOWNWARDS ARROW' (U+2193).

Force DOM redraw/refresh on Chrome/Mac

October 2020, the problem still persists with Chrome 85.

morewry's solution of using transform:translateZ(0) works, actually, any transformation works, including translate(0,0) and scale(1), but if you must update the element again, then the trick is to toggle the transformation, and the best way is to directly remove it, after one frame, using requestAnimationFrame (setTimeout should always be avoided because it will be slower so it can cause glitches).

So, the update one element:

    function refresh_element(node) {
        // you can use scale(1) or translate(0, 0), etc
        node.style.setProperty('transform', 'translateZ(0)');
        // this will remove the property 1 frame later
        requestAnimationFrame(() => {
            node.style.removeProperty('transform');
        });
    }

How to make a radio button unchecked by clicking it?

This is my answer (though I made it with jQuery but only for the purpose of selecting elements and to add and remove a class, so you can easily replace it with pure JS selectors & pure JS add attribute )

<input type='radio' name='radioBtn'>
<input type='radio' name='radioBtn'>
<input type='radio' name='radioBtn'>

$(document).on("click", "input[name='radioBtn']", function(){
    thisRadio = $(this);
    if (thisRadio.hasClass("imChecked")) {
        thisRadio.removeClass("imChecked");
        thisRadio.prop('checked', false);
    } else {
        thisRadio.prop('checked', true);
        thisRadio.addClass("imChecked");
    };
})

How to sort by dates excel?

For example 8/12/1976. Copy your date column. Highlight the copied column and click Data> Text to Columns> Delimited> Next. In the delimiters column check "Other" and input / and then click Next and Finish. You'll have 3 columns and the first column will be 1/8. Highlight it and click the comma in the Number section and it will give you the month as 8.00, so then reduce it by clicking the comma in Home/Numbers and you'll now have 8 in the first column, 18 in the second column and 1976 in the third column. In the first empty cell to the right use the concatenate function and leave out the year column. If your month is column A, day is column B and year is column C, it will look like this: =concatenate(A2,"/",B2) and hit enter. It will look like 8/18, however, when you click on the cell you'll see the concatenate formula. Highlight the cell(s), then copy and paste special values. Now you can sort by date. It's really quick when you get the hang of it.

How to include vars file in a vars file with ansible?

Unfortunately, vars files do not have include statements.

You can either put all the vars into the definitions dictionary, or add the variables as another dictionary in the same file.

If you don't want to have them in the same file, you can include them at the playbook level by adding the vars file at the start of the play:

---
- hosts: myhosts

  vars_files:
    - default_step.yml

or in a task:

---
- hosts: myhosts

  tasks:
    - name: include default step variables
      include_vars: default_step.yml

Detect iPhone/iPad purely by css

Many devices with different screen sizes/ratios/resolutions have come out even in the last five years, including new types of iPhones and iPads. It would be very difficult to customize a website for each device.

Meanwhile, media queries for device-width, device-height, and device-aspect-ratio have been deprecated, so they may not work in future browser versions. (Source: MDN)

TLDR: Design based on browser widths, not devices. Here's a good introduction to this topic.

Can't open file 'svn/repo/db/txn-current-lock': Permission denied

I also had this problem recently, and it was the SELinux which caused it. I was trying to have the post-commit of subversion to notify Jenkins that the code has change so Jenkins would do a build and deploy to Nexus.

I had to do the following to get it to work.

1) First I checked if SELinux is enabled:

    less /selinux/enforce

This will output 1 (for on) or 0 (for off)

2) Temporary disable SELinux:

    echo 0 > /selinux/enforce

Now test see if it works now.

3) Enable SELinux:

    echo 1 > /selinux/enforce

Change the policy for SELinux.

4) First view the current configuration:

    /usr/sbin/getsebool -a | grep httpd

This will give you: httpd_can_network_connect --> off

5) Set this to on and your post-commit will work with SELinux:

    /usr/sbin/setsebool -P httpd_can_network_connect on

Now it should be working again.

Unit testing void methods?

Test its side-effects. This includes:

  • Does it throw any exceptions? (If it should, check that it does. If it shouldn't, try some corner cases which might if you're not careful - null arguments being the most obvious thing.)
  • Does it play nicely with its parameters? (If they're mutable, does it mutate them when it shouldn't and vice versa?)
  • Does it have the right effect on the state of the object/type you're calling it on?

Of course, there's a limit to how much you can test. You generally can't test with every possible input, for example. Test pragmatically - enough to give you confidence that your code is designed appropriately and implemented correctly, and enough to act as supplemental documentation for what a caller might expect.

CorrMtx(df, dropDuplicates = False)

I put this together after it was announced that the outstanding seaborn corrplot was to be deprecated. The snippet above makes a resembling correlation plot based on seaborn heatmap. You can also specify the color range and select whether or not to drop duplicate correlations. Notice that I've used the same numbers as you, but that I've put them in a pandas dataframe. Regarding the choice of colors you can have a look at the documents for sns.diverging_palette. You asked for blue, but that falls out of this particular range of the color scale with your sample data. For both observations of 0.95173379, try changing to -0.95173379 and you'll get this:

What's the difference between ngOnInit and ngAfterViewInit of Angular2?

ngOnInit() is called after ngOnChanges() was called the first time. ngOnChanges() is called every time inputs are updated by change detection.

ngAfterViewInit() is called after the view is initially rendered. This is why @ViewChild() depends on it. You can't access view members before they are rendered.

In excel how do I reference the current row but a specific column?

If you dont want to hard-code the cell addresses you can use the ROW() function.

eg: =AVERAGE(INDIRECT("A" & ROW()), INDIRECT("C" & ROW()))

Its probably not the best way to do it though! Using Auto-Fill and static columns like @JaiGovindani suggests would be much better.

How to escape strings in SQL Server using PHP?

For the conversion to get the hexadecimal values in SQL back into ASCII, here is the solution I got on this (using the function from user chaos to encode into hexadecimal)

function hexEncode($data) {
    if(is_numeric($data))
        return $data;
    $unpacked = unpack('H*hex', $data);
    return '0x' . $unpacked['hex'];
}

function hexDecode($hex) {
    $str = '';
    for ($i=0; $i<strlen($hex); $i += 2)
        $str .= chr(hexdec(substr($hex, $i, 2)));
    return $str;
}

$stringHex = hexEncode('Test String');
var_dump($stringHex);
$stringAscii = hexDecode($stringHex);
var_dump($stringAscii);

Convert float64 column to int64 in Pandas

This seems to be a little buggy in Pandas 0.23.4?

If there are np.nan values then this will throw an error as expected:

df['col'] = df['col'].astype(np.int64)

But doesn't change any values from float to int as I would expect if "ignore" is used:

df['col'] = df['col'].astype(np.int64,errors='ignore')

It worked if I first converted np.nan:

df['col'] = df['col'].fillna(0).astype(np.int64)
df['col'] = df['col'].astype(np.int64)

Now I can't figure out how to get null values back in place of the zeroes since this will convert everything back to float again:

df['col']  = df['col'].replace(0,np.nan)

app-release-unsigned.apk is not signed

Make sure the build variant is set to debug (and not release) in Android Studio (check the build variants panel).

If set to debug, it should automatically sign the app with the auto-generated debug keystore, without editing the build scripts.

However you will need to create and configure a specific keystore for release.

How to use the ConfigurationManager.AppSettings

you should use []

var x = ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["APIKey"];

MongoDB and "joins"

The database does not do joins -- or automatic "linking" between documents. However you can do it yourself client side. If you need to do 2, that is ok, but if you had to do 2000, the number of client/server turnarounds would make the operation slow.

In MongoDB a common pattern is embedding. In relational when normalizing things get broken into parts. Often in mongo these pieces end up being a single document, so no join is needed anyway. But when one is needed, one does it client-side.

Consider the classic ORDER, ORDER-LINEITEM example. One order and 8 line items are 9 rows in relational; in MongoDB we would typically just model this as a single BSON document which is an order with an array of embedded line items. So in that case, the join issue does not arise. However the order would have a CUSTOMER which probably is a separate collection - the client could read the cust_id from the order document, and then go fetch it as needed separately.

There are some videos and slides for schema design talks on the mongodb.org web site I belive.
