Programs & Examples On #Hackintosh

OSx86 (from Mac OS X and x86) is a collaborative hacking project to run the Mac OS X operating system on non-Apple personal computers with x86 architecture and x86-64 compatible processors. The effort started soon after the June 2005 Worldwide Developers Conference announcement that Apple would be transitioning its personal computers from PowerPC to Intel microprocessors. A computer built to run this type of Mac OS X is also known as a Hackintosh.

iOS for VirtualBox

VirtualBox is a virtualizer, not an emulator. (The name kinda gives it away.) I.e. it can only virtualize a CPU that is actually there, not emulate one that isn't. In particular, VirtualBox can only virtualize x86 and AMD64 CPUs. iOS only runs on ARM CPUs.

Where does PostgreSQL store the database?

Best way to format multiple 'or' conditions in an if statement (Java)

I use this kind of pattern often. It's very compact:

// Define a constant in your class. Use a HashSet for performance
private static final Set<Integer> values = new HashSet<Integer>(Arrays.asList(12, 16, 19));

// In your method:
if (values.contains(x)) {
    ...
}

A HashSet is used here to give good look-up performance - even very large hash sets are able to execute contains() extremely quickly.

If performance is not important, you can code the gist of it into one line:

if (Arrays.asList(12, 16, 19).contains(x))

but know that it will create a new ArrayList every time it executes.

What's an appropriate HTTP status code to return by a REST API service for a validation failure?

I would say technically it might not be an HTTP failure, since the resource was (presumably) validly specified, the user was authenticated, and there was no operational failure (however even the spec does include some reserved codes like 402 Payment Required which aren't strictly speaking HTTP-related either, though it might be advisable to have that at the protocol level so that any device can recognize the condition).

If that's actually the case, I would add a status field to the response with application errors, like

<status><code>4</code><message>Date range is invalid</message></status>

Convert byte to string in Java

Use char instead of byte:

System.out.println("string " + (char)0x63);

Or if you want to be a Unicode puritan, you use codepoints:

System.out.println("string " + new String(new int[]{ 0x63 }, 0, 1));

And if you like the old skool US-ASCII "every byte is a character" idea:

System.out.println("string " + new String(new byte[]{ (byte)0x63 },
                                          StandardCharsets.US_ASCII));

Avoid using the String(byte[]) constructor recommended in other answers; it relies on the default charset. Circumstances could arise where 0x63 actually isn't the character c.

Finding duplicate integers in an array and display how many times they occurred

Ok I have modified your code. This should do the job:

class Program
{
    static void Main(string[] args)
    {
        int[] array = { 10, 5, 10, 2, 2, 3, 4, 5, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11, 12, 12 };

        for (int i = 0; i < array.Length; i++)
        {
            int count = 0;
            for (int j = 0; j < array.Length; j++)
            {

                if (array[i] == array[j])
                    count = count + 1;
            }
            Console.WriteLine("\t\n " + array[i] + " occurs " + count + " times");
        }
        Console.ReadKey();
    }
}

How to open a txt file and read numbers in Java

   try{

    BufferedReader br = new BufferedReader(new FileReader("textfile.txt"));
    String strLine;
    //Read File Line By Line
    while ((strLine = br.readLine()) != null)   {
      // Print the content on the console
      System.out.println (strLine);
    }
    //Close the input stream
    in.close();
    }catch (Exception e){//Catch exception if any
      System.err.println("Error: " + e.getMessage());
    }finally{
     in.close();
    }

This will read line by line,

If your no. are saperated by newline char. then in place of

 System.out.println (strLine);

You can have

try{
int i = Integer.parseInt(strLine);
}catch(NumberFormatException npe){
//do something
}

If it is separated by spaces then

try{
    String noInStringArr[] = strLine.split(" ");
//then you can parse it to Int as above
    }catch(NumberFormatException npe){
    //do something
    }

What's the difference between utf8_general_ci and utf8_unicode_ci?

According to this post, there is a considerably large performance benefit on MySQL 5.7 when using utf8mb4_general_ci in stead of utf8mb4_unicode_ci: https://www.percona.com/blog/2019/02/27/charset-and-collation-settings-impact-on-mysql-performance/

Create table with jQuery - append

To add multiple columns and rows, we can also do a string concatenation. Not the best way, but it sure works.

             var resultstring='<table>';
      for(var j=0;j<arr.length;j++){
              //array arr contains the field names in this case
          resultstring+= '<th>'+ arr[j] + '</th>';
      }
      $(resultset).each(function(i, result) {
          // resultset is in json format
          resultstring+='<tr>';
          for(var j=0;j<arr.length;j++){
              resultstring+='<td>'+ result[arr[j]]+ '</td>';
          }
          resultstring+='</tr>';
      });
      resultstring+='</table>';
          $('#resultdisplay').html(resultstring);

This also allows you to add rows and columns to the table dynamically, without hardcoding the fieldnames.

Exception: Serialization of 'Closure' is not allowed

As already stated: closures, out of the box, cannot be serialized.

However, using the __sleep(), __wakeup() magic methods and reflection u CAN manually make closures serializable. For more details see extending-php-5-3-closures-with-serialization-and-reflection

This makes use of reflection and the php function eval. Do note this opens up the possibility of CODE injection, so please take notice of WHAT you are serializing.

UndefinedMetricWarning: F-score is ill-defined and being set to 0.0 in labels with no predicted samples

As I have noticed this error occurs under two circumstances,

  1. If you have used train_test_split() to split your data, you have to make sure that you reset the index of the data (specially when taken using a pandas series object): y_train, y_test indices should be resetted. The problem is when you try to use one of the scores from sklearn.metrics such as; precision_score, this will try to match the shuffled indices of the y_test that you got from train_test_split().

so use, either np.array(y_test) for y_true in scores or y_test.reset_index(drop=True)

  1. Then again you can still have this error if your predicted 'True Positives' is 0, which is used for precision, recall and f1_scores. You can visualize this using a confusion_matrix. If the classification is multilabel and you set param: average='weighted'/micro/macro you will get an answer as long as the diagonal line in the matrix is not 0

Hope this helps.

Datatable vs Dataset

One major difference is that DataSets can hold multiple tables and you can define relationships between those tables.

If you are only returning a single result set though I would think a DataTable would be more optimized. I would think there has to be some overhead (granted small) to offer the functionality a DataSet does and keep track of multiple DataTables.

Mouseover or hover vue.js

Please take a look at the vue-mouseover package if you are not satisfied how does this code look:

<div
    @mouseover="isMouseover = true"
    @mouseleave="isMouseover = false"
/>

vue-mouseover provides a v-mouseover directive that automaticaly updates the specified data context property when the cursor enters or leaves an HTML element the directive is attached to.

By default in the next example isMouseover property will be true when the cursor is over an HTML element and false otherwise:

<div v-mouseover="isMouseover" />

Also by default isMouseover will be initially assigned when v-mouseover is attached to the div element, so it will not remain unassigned before the first mouseenter/mouseleave event.

You can specify custom values via v-mouseover-value directive:

<div
    v-mouseover="isMouseover"
    v-mouseover-value="customMouseenterValue"/>

or

<div
    v-mouseover="isMouseover"
    v-mouseover-value="{
        mouseenter: customMouseenterValue,
        mouseleave: customMouseleaveValue
    }"
/>

Custom default values can be passed to the package via options object during setup.

Parsing huge logfiles in Node.js - read in line-by-line

I had the same problem yet. After comparing several modules that seem to have this feature, I decided to do it myself, it's simpler than I thought.

gist: https://gist.github.com/deemstone/8279565

var fetchBlock = lineByline(filepath, onEnd);
fetchBlock(function(lines, start){ ... });  //lines{array} start{int} lines[0] No.

It cover the file opened in a closure, that fetchBlock() returned will fetch a block from the file, end split to array (will deal the segment from last fetch).

I've set the block size to 1024 for each read operation. This may have bugs, but code logic is obvious, try it yourself.

How to modify existing, unpushed commit messages?

If it's your last commit, just amend the commit:

git commit --amend -o -m "New commit message"

(Using the -o (--only) flag to make sure you change only the commit message)

If it's a buried commit, use the awesome interactive rebase:

git rebase -i @~9 # Show the last 9 commits in a text editor

Find the commit you want, change pick to r (reword), and save and close the file. Done!

Miniature Vim tutorial (or, how to rebase with only 8 keystrokes 3jcwrEscZZ):

  • Run vimtutor if you have time
  • hjkl correspond to movement keys ????
  • All commands can be prefixed with a "range", e.g. 3j moves down three lines
  • i to enter insert mode — text you type will appear in the file
  • Esc or Ctrlc to exit insert mode and return to "normal" mode
  • u to undo
  • Ctrlr to redo
  • dd, dw, dl to delete a line, word, or letter, respectively
  • cc, cw, cl to change a line, word, or letter, respectively (same as ddi)
  • yy, yw, yl to copy ("yank") a line, word, or letter, respectively
  • p or P to paste after, or before current position, respectively
  • :wEnter to save (write) a file
  • :q!Enter to quit without saving
  • :wqEnter or ZZ to save and quit

If you edit text a lot, then switch to the Dvorak keyboard layout, learn to touch-type, and learn Vim. Is it worth the effort? Yes.

ProTip™: Don't be afraid to experiment with "dangerous" commands that rewrite history* — Git doesn't delete your commits for 90 days by default; you can find them in the reflog:

$ git reset @~3 # Go back three commits
$ git reflog
c4f708b HEAD@{0}: reset: moving to @~3
2c52489 HEAD@{1}: commit: more changes
4a5246d HEAD@{2}: commit: make important changes
e8571e4 HEAD@{3}: commit: make some changes
... earlier commits ...
$ git reset 2c52489
... and you're back where you started

* Watch out for options like --hard and --force though — they can discard data. * Also, don't rewrite history on any branches you're collaborating on.

What is a PDB file?

PDB is an abbreviation for Program Data Base. As the name suggests, it is a repository (persistent storage such as databases) to maintain information required to run your program in debug mode. It contains many important relevant information required while you debug your code (in Visual Studio), for e.g. at what points you have inserted break points where you expect the debugger to break in Visual Studio.

This is the reason why many times Visual Studio fails to hit the break points if you remove the *.pdb files from your debug folders. Visual Studio debugger is also able to tell you the precise line number of code file at which an exception occurred in a stack trace with the help of *.pdb files. So effectively pdb files are really a boon to developers while debugging a program.

Generally it is not recommended to exclude the generation of *.pdb files. From production release stand-point what you should be doing is create the pdb files but don't ship them to customer site in product installer. Preserve all the generated PDB files on to a symbol server from where it can be used/referenced in future if required. Specially for cases when you debug issues like process crash. When you start analysing the crash dump files and if your original *.pdb files created during the build process are not preserved then Visual Studio will not be able to make out the exact line of code which is causing crash.

If you still want to disable generation of *.pdb files altogether for any release then go to properties of the project -> Build Tab -> Click on Advanced button -> Choose none from "Debug Info" drop-down box -> press OK as shown in the snapshot below.

None Debug Info setting for a C# Project

Note: This setting will have to be done separately for "Debug" and "Release" build configurations.

You use an SDK to access functionality of a library, and an API to control it.

How to change the background-color of jumbrotron?

You don't necessarily have to use custom CSS (or even worse inline CSS), in Bootstrap 4 you can use the utility classes for colors, like:

<div class="jumbotron bg-dark text-white">
...

And if you need other colors than the default ones, just add additional bg-classes using the same naming convention. This keeps the code neat and understandable.

You might also need to set text-white on child-elements inside the jumbotron, like headings.

Mocking a class: Mock() or patch()?

mock.patch is a very very different critter than mock.Mock. patch replaces the class with a mock object and lets you work with the mock instance. Take a look at this snippet:

>>> class MyClass(object):
...   def __init__(self):
...     print 'Created MyClass@{0}'.format(id(self))
...
>>> def create_instance():
...   return MyClass()
...
>>> x = create_instance()
Created MyClass@4299548304
>>>
>>> @mock.patch('__main__.MyClass')
... def create_instance2(MyClass):
...   MyClass.return_value = 'foo'
...   return create_instance()
...
>>> i = create_instance2()
>>> i
'foo'
>>> def create_instance():
...   print MyClass
...   return MyClass()
...
>>> create_instance2()
<mock.Mock object at 0x100505d90>
'foo'
>>> create_instance()
<class '__main__.MyClass'>
Created MyClass@4300234128
<__main__.MyClass object at 0x100505d90>

patch replaces MyClass in a way that allows you to control the usage of the class in functions that you call. Once you patch a class, references to the class are completely replaced by the mock instance.

mock.patch is usually used when you are testing something that creates a new instance of a class inside of the test. mock.Mock instances are clearer and are preferred. If your self.sut.something method created an instance of MyClass instead of receiving an instance as a parameter, then mock.patch would be appropriate here.

C# version of java's synchronized keyword?

First - most classes will never need to be thread-safe. Use YAGNI: only apply thread-safety when you know you actually are going to use it (and test it).

For the method-level stuff, there is [MethodImpl]:

[MethodImpl(MethodImplOptions.Synchronized)]
public void SomeMethod() {/* code */}

This can also be used on accessors (properties and events):

private int i;
public int SomeProperty
{
    [MethodImpl(MethodImplOptions.Synchronized)]
    get { return i; }
    [MethodImpl(MethodImplOptions.Synchronized)]
    set { i = value; }
}

Note that field-like events are synchronized by default, while auto-implemented properties are not:

public int SomeProperty {get;set;} // not synchronized
public event EventHandler SomeEvent; // synchronized

Personally, I don't like the implementation of MethodImpl as it locks this or typeof(Foo) - which is against best practice. The preferred option is to use your own locks:

private readonly object syncLock = new object();
public void SomeMethod() {
    lock(syncLock) { /* code */ }
}

Note that for field-like events, the locking implementation is dependent on the compiler; in older Microsoft compilers it is a lock(this) / lock(Type) - however, in more recent compilers it uses Interlocked updates - so thread-safe without the nasty parts.

This allows more granular usage, and allows use of Monitor.Wait/Monitor.Pulse etc to communicate between threads.

How do I work with dynamic multi-dimensional arrays in C?

Since C99, C has 2D arrays with dynamical bounds. If you want to avoid that such beast are allocated on the stack (which you should), you can allocate them easily in one go as the following

double (*A)[n] = malloc(sizeof(double[n][n]));

and that's it. You can then easily use it as you are used for 2D arrays with something like A[i][j]. And don't forget that one at the end

free(A);

This should work in most modern browsers Just remember to put your doctype as <!DOCTYPE html> to get it valid

The difference in months between dates in MySQL

From the MySQL manual:

PERIOD_DIFF(P1,P2)

Returns the number of months between periods P1 and P2. P1 and P2 should be in the format YYMM or YYYYMM. Note that the period arguments P1 and P2 are not date values.

mysql> SELECT PERIOD_DIFF(200802,200703); -> 11

So it may be possible to do something like this:

Select period_diff(concat(year(d1),if(month(d1)<10,'0',''),month(d1)), concat(year(d2),if(month(d2)<10,'0',''),month(d2))) as months from your_table;

Where d1 and d2 are the date expressions.

I had to use the if() statements to make sure that the months was a two digit number like 02 rather than 2.

Detect touch press vs long press vs movement?

If you need to distniguish between a click, longpress and a scroll use GestureDetector

Activity implements GestureDetector.OnGestureListener

then create detector in onCreate for example

mDetector = new GestureDetectorCompat(getActivity().getApplicationContext(),this);

then optionally setOnTouchListener on your View (for example webview) where

onTouch(View v, MotionEvent event) {
return mDetector.onTouchEvent(event);
}

and now you can use Override onScroll, onFling, showPress( detect long press) or onSingleTapUp (detect a click)

How to have the cp command create any necessary folders for copying a file to a destination

For those that are on Mac OSX, perhaps the easiest way to work around this is to use ditto (only on the mac, AFAIK, though). It will create the directory structure that is missing in the destination.

For instance, I did this

ditto 6.3.2/6.3.2/macosx/bin/mybinary ~/work/binaries/macosx/6.3.2/

where ~/work did not contain the binaries directory before I ran the command.

I thought rsync should work similarly, but it seems it only works for one level of missing directories. That is,

rsync 6.3.3/6.3.3/macosx/bin/mybinary ~/work/binaries/macosx/6.3.3/

worked, because ~/work/binaries/macosx existed but not ~/work/binaries/macosx/6.3.2/

Regex pattern including all special characters

I have defined one pattern to look for any of the ASCII Special Characters ranging between 032 to 126 except the alpha-numeric. You may use something like the one below:

To find any Special Character:

[ -\/:-@\[-\`{-~]

To find minimum of 1 and maximum of any count:

(?=.*[ -\/:-@\[-\`{-~]{1,})

These patterns have Special Characters ranging between 032 to 047, 058 to 064, 091 to 096, and 123 to 126.

Failed to decode downloaded font

I experienced a similar issue in Visual Studio, which was being caused by an incorrect url() path to the font in question.

I stopped getting this error after changing (for instance):

@@font-face{
    font-family: "Example Font";
    src: url("/Fonts/ExampleFont.eot?#iefix");

to this:

@@font-face{
    font-family: "Example Font";
    src: url("../fonts/ExampleFont.eot?#iefix");

How to read a file in other directory in python

For windows you can either use the full path with '\\' ('/' for Linux and Mac) as separator of you can use os.getcwd to get the current working directory and give path in reference to the current working directory

data_dir = os.getcwd()+'\\child_directory'
file = open(data_dir+'\\filename.txt', 'r')

When I tried to give the path of child_diectory entirely it resulted in error. For e.g. in this case:

file = open('child_directory\\filename.txt', 'r')

Resulted in error. But I think it must work or I am doing it somewhat wrong way but it doesn't work for me. The about way always works.

How to check if all of the following items are in a list?

I like these two because they seem the most logical, the latter being shorter and probably fastest (shown here using set literal syntax which has been backported to Python 2.7):

#   or
{'a', 'b'}.issubset({'a', 'b', 'c'})

error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol (C++)

That means that the definition of your function is not present in your program. You forgot to add that one.cpp to your program.

What "to add" means in this case depends on your build environment and its terminology. In MSVC (since you are apparently use MSVC) you'd have to add one.cpp to the project.

In more practical terms, applicable to all typical build methodologies, when you link you program, the object file created form one.cpp is missing.

How to set HttpResponse timeout for Android in Java

If your are using Jakarta's http client library then you can do something like:

        HttpClient client = new HttpClient();
        client.getParams().setParameter(HttpClientParams.CONNECTION_MANAGER_TIMEOUT, new Long(5000));
        client.getParams().setParameter(HttpClientParams.SO_TIMEOUT, new Integer(5000));
        GetMethod method = new GetMethod("http://www.yoururl.com");
        method.getParams().setParameter(HttpMethodParams.SO_TIMEOUT, new Integer(5000));
        method.getParams().setParameter(HttpMethodParams.RETRY_HANDLER,
        int statuscode = client.executeMethod(method);

What's the difference between subprocess Popen and call (how can I use them)?

There are two ways to do the redirect. Both apply to either subprocess.Popen or subprocess.call.

  1. Set the keyword argument shell = True or executable = /path/to/the/shell and specify the command just as you have it there.

  2. Since you're just redirecting the output to a file, set the keyword argument

    stdout = an_open_writeable_file_object

    where the object points to the output file.

subprocess.Popen is more general than subprocess.call.

Popen doesn't block, allowing you to interact with the process while it's running, or continue with other things in your Python program. The call to Popen returns a Popen object.

call does block. While it supports all the same arguments as the Popen constructor, so you can still set the process' output, environmental variables, etc., your script waits for the program to complete, and call returns a code representing the process' exit status.

returncode = call(*args, **kwargs)

is basically the same as calling

returncode = Popen(*args, **kwargs).wait()

call is just a convenience function. It's implementation in CPython is in subprocess.py:

def call(*popenargs, timeout=None, **kwargs):
    """Run command with arguments. Wait for command to complete or
    timeout, then return the returncode attribute.

    The arguments are the same as for the Popen constructor. Example:

    retcode = call(["ls", "-l"])
    """
    with Popen(*popenargs, **kwargs) as p:
        try:
            return p.wait(timeout=timeout)
        except:
            p.kill()
            p.wait()
            raise

As you can see, it's a thin wrapper around Popen.

Else clause on Python while statement

I know this is old question but...

As Raymond Hettinger said, it should be called while/no_break instead of while/else.
I find it easy to understeand if you look at this snippet.

n = 5
while n > 0:
    print n
    n -= 1
    if n == 2:
        break
if n == 0:
    print n

Now instead of checking condition after while loop we can swap it with else and get rid of that check.

n = 5
while n > 0:
    print n
    n -= 1
    if n == 2:
        break
else: # read it as "no_break"
    print n

I always read it as while/no_break to understand the code and that syntax makes much more sense to me.

replace NULL with Blank value or Zero in sql server

The coalesce() is the best solution when there are multiple columns [and]/[or] values and you want the first one. However, looking at books on-line, the query optimize converts it to a case statement.

MSDN excerpt

The COALESCE expression is a syntactic shortcut for the CASE expression.

That is, the code COALESCE(expression1,...n) is rewritten by the query optimizer as the following CASE expression:

CASE
   WHEN (expression1 IS NOT NULL) THEN expression1
   WHEN (expression2 IS NOT NULL) THEN expression2
   ...
   ELSE expressionN
END

With that said, why not a simple ISNULL()? Less code = better solution?

Here is a complete code snippet.

-- drop the test table
drop table #temp1
go

-- create test table
create table #temp1
(
    issue varchar(100) NOT NULL,
    total_amount int NULL
);
go

-- create test data
insert into #temp1 values
    ('No nulls here', 12),
    ('I am a null', NULL);
go

-- isnull works fine
select
    isnull(total_amount, 0) as total_amount
from #temp1

Last but not least, how are you getting null values into a NOT NULL column?

I had to change the table definition so that I could setup the test case. When I try to alter the table to NOT NULL, it fails since it does a nullability check.

-- this alter fails
alter table #temp1 alter column total_amount int NOT NULL

Find Java classes implementing an interface

The code you are talking about sounds like ServiceLoader, which was introduced in Java 6 to support a feature that has been defined since Java 1.3 or earlier. For performance reasons, this is the recommended approach to find interface implementations at runtime; if you need support for this in an older version of Java, I hope that you'll find my implementation helpful.

There are a couple of implementations of this in earlier versions of Java, but in the Sun packages, not in the core API (I think there are some classes internal to ImageIO that do this). As the code is simple, I'd recommend providing your own implementation rather than relying on non-standard Sun code which is subject to change.

How to determine if binary tree is balanced?

Here is a version based on a generic depth-first traversal. Should be faster than the other correct answer and handle all the mentioned "challenges." Apologies for the style, I don't really know Java.

You can still make it much faster by returning early if max and min are both set and have a difference >1.

public boolean isBalanced( Node root ) {
    int curDepth = 0, maxLeaf = 0, minLeaf = INT_MAX;
    if ( root == null ) return true;
    while ( root != null ) {
        if ( root.left == null || root.right == null ) {
            maxLeaf = max( maxLeaf, curDepth );
            minLeaf = min( minLeaf, curDepth );
        }
        if ( root.left != null ) {
            curDepth += 1;
            root = root.left;
        } else {
            Node last = root;
            while ( root != null
             && ( root.right == null || root.right == last ) ) {
                curDepth -= 1;
                last = root;
                root = root.parent;
            }
            if ( root != null ) {
                curDepth += 1;
                root = root.right;
            }
        }
    }
    return ( maxLeaf - minLeaf <= 1 );
}

Global and local variables in R

Variables declared inside a function are local to that function. For instance:

foo <- function() {
    bar <- 1
}
foo()
bar

gives the following error: Error: object 'bar' not found.

If you want to make bar a global variable, you should do:

foo <- function() {
    bar <<- 1
}
foo()
bar

In this case bar is accessible from outside the function.

However, unlike C, C++ or many other languages, brackets do not determine the scope of variables. For instance, in the following code snippet:

if (x > 10) {
    y <- 0
}
else {
    y <- 1
}

y remains accessible after the if-else statement.

As you well say, you can also create nested environments. You can have a look at these two links for understanding how to use them:

  1. http://stat.ethz.ch/R-manual/R-devel/library/base/html/environment.html
  2. http://stat.ethz.ch/R-manual/R-devel/library/base/html/get.html

Here you have a small example:

test.env <- new.env()

assign('var', 100, envir=test.env)
# or simply
test.env$var <- 100

get('var') # var cannot be found since it is not defined in this environment
get('var', envir=test.env) # now it can be found

How to use a BackgroundWorker?

I know this is a bit old, but in case another beginner is going through this, I'll share some code that covers a bit more of the basic operations, here is another example that also includes the option to cancel the process and also report to the user the status of the process. I'm going to add on top of the code given by Alex Aza in the solution above

public Form1()
{
    InitializeComponent();

    backgroundWorker1.DoWork += backgroundWorker1_DoWork;
    backgroundWorker1.ProgressChanged += backgroundWorker1_ProgressChanged;
    backgroundWorker1.RunWorkerCompleted += backgroundWorker1_RunWorkerCompleted; //Tell the user how the process went
    backgroundWorker1.WorkerReportsProgress = true;
    backgroundWorker1.WorkerSupportsCancellation = true; //Allow for the process to be cancelled
}

//Start Process
private void button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
    backgroundWorker1.RunWorkerAsync();
}

//Cancel Process
private void button2_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
    //Check if background worker is doing anything and send a cancellation if it is
    if (backgroundWorker1.IsBusy)
    {
        backgroundWorker1.CancelAsync();
    }

}

private void backgroundWorker1_DoWork(object sender, System.ComponentModel.DoWorkEventArgs e)
{
    for (int i = 0; i < 100; i++)
    {
        Thread.Sleep(1000);
        backgroundWorker1.ReportProgress(i);

        //Check if there is a request to cancel the process
        if (backgroundWorker1.CancellationPending)
        {
            e.Cancel = true;
            backgroundWorker1.ReportProgress(0);
            return;
        }
    }
    //If the process exits the loop, ensure that progress is set to 100%
    //Remember in the loop we set i < 100 so in theory the process will complete at 99%
    backgroundWorker1.ReportProgress(100);
}

private void backgroundWorker1_ProgressChanged(object sender, System.ComponentModel.ProgressChangedEventArgs e)
{
    progressBar1.Value = e.ProgressPercentage;
}

private void backgroundWorker1_RunWorkerCompleted(object sender, System.ComponentModel.RunWorkerCompletedEventArgs e)
{
    if (e.Cancelled)
    {
         lblStatus.Text = "Process was cancelled";
    }
    else if (e.Error != null)
    {
         lblStatus.Text = "There was an error running the process. The thread aborted";
    }
    else
    {
       lblStatus.Text = "Process was completed";

How to initialize an array of objects in Java

It is almost fine. Just have:

Player[] thePlayers = new Player[playerCount + 1];

And let the loop be:

for(int i = 0; i < thePlayers.length; i++)

And note that java convention dictates that names of methods and variables should start with lower-case.

Update: put your method within the class body.

Regular expression to match URLs in Java

When using regular expressions from RegexBuddy's library, make sure to use the same matching modes in your own code as the regex from the library. If you generate a source code snippet on the Use tab, RegexBuddy will automatically set the correct matching options in the source code snippet. If you copy/paste the regex, you have to do that yourself.

In this case, as others pointed out, you missed the case insensitivity option.

SASS - use variables across multiple files

In angular v10 I did something like this, first created a master.scss file and included the following variables:

master.scss file:

$theme: blue;

$button_color: red;

$label_color: gray;

Then I imported the master.scss file in my style.scss at the top:

style.scss file:

@use './master' as m;

Make sure you import the master.scss at the top.

m is an alias for the namespace;

Use @use instead of @import according to the official docs below:

https://sass-lang.com/documentation/at-rules/import

Then in your styles.scss file you can use any variable which is defined in master.scss like below:

someClass {

   backgroud-color: m.$theme;

   color: m.$button_color;

}

Hope it 'll help...

Happy Coding :)

jQuery DatePicker with today as maxDate

In recent version, The following works fine:

    $('.selector').datetimepicker({
        maxDate: new Date()
    });

maxDate accepts a Date object as parameter.

The following found in documentation:

Multiple types supported:

  • Date: A date object containing the minimum date.

  • Number: A number of days from today. For example 2 represents two days from today and -1 represents yesterday.

  • String: A string in the format defined by the dateFormat option, or a relative date. Relative dates must contain value and period pairs; valid periods are "y" for years, "m" for months, "w" for weeks, and "d" for days. For example, "+1m +7d" represents one month and seven days from today.

How do I redirect with JavaScript?

window.location.replace('http://sidanmor.com');

It's better than using window.location.href = 'http://sidanmor.com';

Using replace() is better because it does not keep the originating page in the session history, meaning the user won't get stuck in a never-ending back-button fiasco.

If you want to simulate someone clicking on a link, use window.location.href

If you want to simulate an HTTP redirect, use window.location.replace

For example:

// similar behavior as an HTTP redirect
window.location.replace("http://sidanmor.com");

// similar behavior as clicking on a link
window.location.href = "http://sidanmor.com";

PUT vs. POST in REST

I think there is also an interesting point that was not shared on this PUT vs POST question:

If you want to have a web application that works without JavaScript (for example if someone is using a command-line browser like Lynx or a browser addon like NoScript or uMatrix), you will have to use POST to send data since HTML forms only support GET and POST HTTP requests.

Basically if you want to use progressive enhancement (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Progressive_enhancement) to make your web application work everywhere, with and without JavaScript, you cannot use other HTTP methods like PUT or DELETE, which were only added in HTTP version 1.1.

jQuery $.ajax request of dataType json will not retrieve data from PHP script

I think I know this one...

Try sending your JSON as JSON by using PHP's header() function:

/**
 * Send as JSON
 */
header("Content-Type: application/json", true);

Though you are passing valid JSON, jQuery's $.ajax doesn't think so because it's missing the header.

jQuery used to be fine without the header, but it was changed a few versions back.

ALSO

Be sure that your script is returning valid JSON. Use Firebug or Google Chrome's Developer Tools to check the request's response in the console.

UPDATE

You will also want to update your code to sanitize the $_POST to avoid sql injection attacks. As well as provide some error catching.

if (isset($_POST['get_member'])) {

    $member_id = mysql_real_escape_string ($_POST["get_member"]);

    $query = "SELECT * FROM `members` WHERE `id` = '" . $member_id . "';";

    if ($result = mysql_query( $query )) {

       $row = mysql_fetch_array($result);

       $type = $row['type'];
       $name = $row['name'];
       $fname = $row['fname'];
       $lname = $row['lname'];
       $email = $row['email'];
       $phone = $row['phone'];
       $website = $row['website'];
       $image = $row['image'];

       /* JSON Row */
       $json = array( "type" => $type, "name" => $name, "fname" => $fname, "lname" => $lname, "email" => $email, "phone" => $phone, "website" => $website, "image" => $image );

    } else {

        /* Your Query Failed, use mysql_error to report why */
        $json = array('error' => 'MySQL Query Error');

    }

     /* Send as JSON */
     header("Content-Type: application/json", true);

    /* Return JSON */
    echo json_encode($json);

    /* Stop Execution */
    exit;

}

How to scroll to an element?

I had a simple scenario, When user clicks on the menu item in my Material UI Navbar I want to scroll them down to the section on the page. I could use refs and thread them through all the components but I hate threading props props multiple components because that makes code fragile.

I just used vanilla JS in my react component, turns out it works just fine. Placed an ID on the element I wanted to scroll to and in my header component I just did this.

const scroll = () => {
  const section = document.querySelector( '#contact-us' );
  section.scrollIntoView( { behavior: 'smooth', block: 'start' } );
};

Capturing mobile phone traffic on Wireshark

Similarly to making your PC a wireless access point, but can be much easier, is using reverse tethering. If you happen to have an HTC phone they have a nice reverse-tethering option called "Internet pass-through", under the network/mobile network sharing settings. It routes all your traffic through your PC and you can just run Wireshark there.

Difference between $(this) and event.target?

http://api.jquery.com/on/ states:

When jQuery calls a handler, the this keyword is a reference to the element where the event is being delivered; for directly bound events this is the element where the event was attached and for delegated events this is an element matching selector. (Note that this may not be equal to event.target if the event has bubbled from a descendant element.)

To create a jQuery object from the element so that it can be used with jQuery methods, use $( this ).

If we have

<input type="button" class="btn" value ="btn1">
<input type="button" class="btn" value ="btn2">
<input type="button" class="btn" value ="btn3">

<div id="outer">
    <input type="button"  value ="OuterB" id ="OuterB">
    <div id="inner">
        <input type="button" class="btn" value ="InnerB" id ="InnerB">
    </div>
</div>

Check the below output:

<script>
    $(function(){
        $(".btn").on("click",function(event){
            console.log($(this));
            console.log($(event.currentTarget));
            console.log($(event.target));
        });

        $("#outer").on("click",function(event){
            console.log($(this));
            console.log($(event.currentTarget));
            console.log($(event.target));
        })
    })
</script>

Note that I use $ to wrap the dom element in order to create a jQuery object, which is how we always do.

You would find that for the first case, this ,event.currentTarget,event.target are all referenced to the same element.

While in the second case, when the event delegate to some wrapped element are triggered, event.target would be referenced to the triggered element, while this and event.currentTarget are referenced to where the event is delivered.

For this and event.currentTarget, they are exactly the same thing according to http://api.jquery.com/event.currenttarget/

How to export query result to csv in Oracle SQL Developer?

FYI to anyone who runs into problems, there is a bug in CSV timestamp export that I just spent a few hours working around. Some fields I needed to export were of type timestamp. It appears the CSV export option even in the current version (3.0.04 as of this posting) fails to put the grouping symbols around timestamps. Very frustrating since spaces in the timestamps broke my import. The best workaround I found was to write my query with a TO_CHAR() on all my timestamps, which yields the correct output, albeit with a little more work. I hope this saves someone some time or gets Oracle on the ball with their next release.

HTML form input tag name element array with JavaScript

1.) First off, what is the correct terminology for an array created on the end of the name element of an input tag in a form?

"Oftimes Confusing PHPism"

As far as JavaScript is concerned a bunch of form controls with the same name are just a bunch of form controls with the same name, and form controls with names that include square brackets are just form controls with names that include square brackets.

The PHP naming convention for form controls with the same name is sometimes useful (when you have a number of groups of controls so you can do things like this:

<input name="name[1]">
<input name="email[1]">
<input name="sex[1]" type="radio" value="m">
<input name="sex[1]" type="radio" value="f">

<input name="name[2]">
<input name="email[2]">
<input name="sex[2]" type="radio" value="m">
<input name="sex[2]" type="radio" value="f">

) but does confuse some people. Some other languages have adopted the convention since this was originally written, but generally only as an optional feature. For example, via this module for JavaScript.

2.) How do I get the information from that array with JavaScript?

It is still just a matter of getting the property with the same name as the form control from elements. The trick is that since the name of the form controls includes square brackets, you can't use dot notation and have to use square bracket notation just like any other JavaScript property name that includes special characters.

Since you have multiple elements with that name, it will be a collection rather then a single control, so you can loop over it with a standard for loop that makes use of its length property.

var myForm = document.forms.id_of_form;
var myControls = myForm.elements['p_id[]'];
for (var i = 0; i < myControls.length; i++) {
    var aControl = myControls[i];
}

SQL GROUP BY CASE statement with aggregate function

I think the answer is pretty simple (unless I'm missing something?)

SELECT
CASE
    WHEN col1 > col2 THEN SUM(col3*col4)
    ELSE 0
END AS some_product
FROM some_table
GROUP BY
CASE
    WHEN col1 > col2 THEN SUM(col3*col4)
    ELSE 0
END

You can put the CASE STATEMENT in the GROUP BY verbatim (minus the alias column name)

javascript: using a condition in switch case

switch (true) {
  case condition0:
    ...
    break;
  case condition1:
    ...
    break;
}

will work in JavaScript as long as your conditions return proper boolean values, but it doesn't have many advantages over else if statements.

Java: Most efficient method to iterate over all elements in a org.w3c.dom.Document?

I also stumbled over this problem recently. Here is my solution. I wanted to avoid recursion, so I used a while loop.

Because of the adds and removes in arbitrary places on the list, I went with the LinkedList implementation.

/* traverses tree starting with given node */
  private static List<Node> traverse(Node n)
  {
    return traverse(Arrays.asList(n));
  }

  /* traverses tree starting with given nodes */
  private static List<Node> traverse(List<Node> nodes)
  {
    List<Node> open = new LinkedList<Node>(nodes);
    List<Node> visited = new LinkedList<Node>();

    ListIterator<Node> it = open.listIterator();
    while (it.hasNext() || it.hasPrevious())
    {
      Node unvisited;
      if (it.hasNext())
        unvisited = it.next();
      else
        unvisited = it.previous();

      it.remove();

      List<Node> children = getChildren(unvisited);
      for (Node child : children)
        it.add(child);

      visited.add(unvisited);
    }

    return visited;
  }

  private static List<Node> getChildren(Node n)
  {
    List<Node> children = asList(n.getChildNodes());
    Iterator<Node> it = children.iterator();
    while (it.hasNext())
      if (it.next().getNodeType() != Node.ELEMENT_NODE)
        it.remove();
    return children;
  }

  private static List<Node> asList(NodeList nodes)
  {
    List<Node> list = new ArrayList<Node>(nodes.getLength());
    for (int i = 0, l = nodes.getLength(); i < l; i++)
      list.add(nodes.item(i));
    return list;
  }

What is the most efficient way to loop through dataframes with pandas?

Just as a small addition, you can also do an apply if you have a complex function that you apply to a single column:

Why do you create a View in a database?

Here are two common reasons:

You can use it for security. Grant no permissions on the main table and create views that limits column or row access and grant permissions to users to see the view.

You can use use it for convenience. Join together some tables that you use together all the time in the view. This can make queries consistent and easier.

Split column at delimiter in data frame

@Taesung Shin is right, but then just some more magic to make it into a data.frame. I added a "x|y" line to avoid ambiguities:

df <- data.frame(ID=11:13, FOO=c('a|b','b|c','x|y'))
foo <- data.frame(do.call('rbind', strsplit(as.character(df$FOO),'|',fixed=TRUE)))

Or, if you want to replace the columns in the existing data.frame:

within(df, FOO<-data.frame(do.call('rbind', strsplit(as.character(FOO), '|', fixed=TRUE))))

Which produces:

  ID FOO.X1 FOO.X2
1 11      a      b
2 12      b      c
3 13      x      y

'int' object has no attribute '__getitem__'

I had a similar issue recently while working on recursion and nested lists. I declared:

print(r_sum([1,2,3[1,2,3],]))

instead of

print(r_sum([1,2,3,[1,2,3],]))

Note the comma after the number 3

Sending private messages to user

If you want to send the message to a predetermined person, such as yourself, you can set it so that the channel it would be messaging to would be their (your) own userID. So for instance, if you're using the discord bot tutorials from Digital Trends, where it says "to: ", you would continue with their (or your) userID. For instance, with how that specific code is set up, you could do "to: userID", and it would message that person. Or, if you want the bot to message you any time someone uses a specific command, you could do "to: '12345678890'", the numbers being a filler for the actual userID. Hope this helps!

Auto height div with overflow and scroll when needed

Quick Answer with Main Points

Pretty much the same answer as the best chosen answer from @Joum, to quicken your quest of trying to achieve the answer to the posted question and save time from deciphering whats going on in the syntax --

Answer

Set position attribute to fixed, set the top and bottom attributes to your liking for the element or div that you want to have an "auto" size of in comparison to its parent element and then set overflow to hidden.

.YourClass && || #YourId{
   position:fixed;
   top:10px;
   bottom:10px;
   width:100%; //Do not forget width
   overflow-y:auto;
}

Wallah! This is all you need for your special element that you want to have a dynamic height according to screen size and or dynamic incoming content while maintaining the opportunity to scroll.

Find size of an array in Perl

To find the size of an array use the scalar keyword:

print scalar @array;

To find out the last index of an array there is $# (Perl default variable). It gives the last index of an array. As an array starts from 0, we get the size of array by adding one to $#:

print "$#array+1";

Example:

my @a = qw(1 3 5);
print scalar @a, "\n";
print $#a+1, "\n";

Output:

3

3

ASP.NET MVC Return Json Result?

It should be :

public async Task<ActionResult> GetSomeJsonData()
{
    var model = // ... get data or build model etc.

    return Json(new { Data = model }, JsonRequestBehavior.AllowGet);
}

or more simply:

return Json(model, JsonRequestBehavior.AllowGet);

I did notice that you are calling GetResources() from another ActionResult which wont work. If you are looking to get JSON back, you should be calling GetResources() from ajax directly...

How to format strings in Java

Java 15

There is a new instance method called String::formatted(Object... args) as of Java 15.

The internal implementation is same to String::format(String format, Object... args).

Formats using this string as the format string, and the supplied arguments.

String step1 = "one";
String step2 = "two";

// results in "Step one of two"
String string = "Step %s of %s".formatted(step1, step2);

Advantage: The difference is that the method is not static and the formatting pattern is a string itself from which a new one is created based on the args. This allows chaining to build the format itself first.

Disadvantage: There is no overloaded method with Locale, therefore uses the default one. If you need to use a custom Locale, you have to stick with String::format(Locale l,String format,Object... args).

HTTP post XML data in C#

AlliterativeAlice's example helped me tremendously. In my case, though, the server I was talking to didn't like having single quotes around utf-8 in the content type. It failed with a generic "Server Error" and it took hours to figure out what it didn't like:

request.ContentType = "text/xml; encoding=utf-8";

What is an efficient way to implement a singleton pattern in Java?

Wikipedia has some examples of singletons, also in Java. The Java 5 implementation looks pretty complete, and is thread-safe (double-checked locking applied).

Templated check for the existence of a class member function?

I've been looking a method that allows to somehow to not tie structure name has_member to name of a class' member. Actually, this would be simpler if lambda can be allowed in unevaluated expression (this is forbidden by standard), i.e. has_member<ClassName, SOME_MACRO_WITH_DECLTYPE(member_name)>

#include <iostream>
#include <list>
#include <type_traits>

#define LAMBDA_FOR_MEMBER_NAME(NAME) [](auto object_instance) -> decltype(&(decltype(object_instance)::NAME)) {}

    constexpr TypeGetter() = default;
    constexpr TypeGetter(T) {}
    using type = T;

    constexpr auto getValue()

    }
};

template<typename T, typename LambdaExpressionT>

What should a Multipart HTTP request with multiple files look like?

EDIT: I am maintaining a similar, but more in-depth answer at: https://stackoverflow.com/a/28380690/895245

To see exactly what is happening, use nc -l and an user agent like a browser or cURL.

Save the form to an .html file:

<form action="http://localhost:8000" method="post" enctype="multipart/form-data">
  <p><input type="text" name="text" value="text default">
  <p><input type="file" name="file1">
  <p><input type="file" name="file2">
  <p><button type="submit">Submit</button>
</form>

Create files to upload:

echo 'Content of a.txt.' > a.txt
echo '<!DOCTYPE html><title>Content of a.html.</title>' > a.html

Run:

nc -l localhost 8000

Open the HTML on your browser, select the files and click on submit and check the terminal.

nc prints the request received. Firefox sent:

Which UUID version to use?

If you want a random number, use a random number library. If you want a unique identifier with effectively 0.00...many more 0s here...001% chance of collision, you should use UUIDv1. See Nick's post for UUIDv3 and v5.

UUIDv1 is NOT secure. It isn't meant to be. It is meant to be UNIQUE, not un-guessable. UUIDv1 uses the current timestamp, plus a machine identifier, plus some random-ish stuff to make a number that will never be generated by that algorithm again. This is appropriate for a transaction ID (even if everyone is doing millions of transactions/s).

To be honest, I don't understand why UUIDv4 exists... from reading RFC4122, it looks like that version does NOT eliminate possibility of collisions. It is just a random number generator. If that is true, than you have a very GOOD chance of two machines in the world eventually creating the same "UUID"v4 (quotes because there isn't a mechanism for guaranteeing U.niversal U.niqueness). In that situation, I don't think that algorithm belongs in a RFC describing methods for generating unique values. It would belong in a RFC about generating randomness. For a set of random numbers:

I think I see your problem, you need to use the @ syntax to define parameters you will pass in this way, also I'm not sure what loginID or password are doing you don't seem to define them anywhere and they are not being used as URL parameters so are they being sent as query parameters?

This is what I can suggest based on what I see so far:

.factory('MagComments', function ($resource) {
    return $resource('http://localhost/dooleystand/ci/api/magCommenct/:id', {
      loginID : organEntity,
      password : organCommpassword,
      id : '@magId'
    });
  })

The @magId string will tell the resource to replace :id with the property magId on the object you pass it as parameters.

I'd suggest reading over the documentation here (I know it's a bit opaque) very carefully and looking at the examples towards the end, this should help a lot.

JSON.net: how to deserialize without using the default constructor?

A bit late and not exactly suited here, but I'm gonna add my solution here, because my question had been closed as a duplicate of this one, and because this solution is completely different.

I needed a general way to instruct Json.NET to prefer the most specific constructor for a user defined struct type, so I can omit the JsonConstructor attributes which would add a dependency to the project where each such struct is defined.

I've reverse engineered a bit and implemented a custom contract resolver where I've overridden the CreateObjectContract method to add my custom creation logic.

public class CustomContractResolver : DefaultContractResolver {

    protected override JsonObjectContract CreateObjectContract(Type objectType)
    {
        var c = base.CreateObjectContract(objectType);
        if (!IsCustomStruct(objectType)) return c;

        IList<ConstructorInfo> list = objectType.GetConstructors(BindingFlags.Instance | BindingFlags.Public | BindingFlags.NonPublic).OrderBy(e => e.GetParameters().Length).ToList();
        var mostSpecific = list.LastOrDefault();
        if (mostSpecific != null)
        {
            c.OverrideCreator = CreateParameterizedConstructor(mostSpecific);
            c.CreatorParameters.AddRange(CreateConstructorParameters(mostSpecific, c.Properties));
        }

        return c;
    }

    protected virtual bool IsCustomStruct(Type objectType)
    {
        return objectType.IsValueType && !objectType.IsPrimitive && !objectType.IsEnum && !objectType.Namespace.IsNullOrEmpty() && !objectType.Namespace.StartsWith("System.");
    }

    private ObjectConstructor<object> CreateParameterizedConstructor(MethodBase method)
    {
        method.ThrowIfNull("method");
        var c = method as ConstructorInfo;
        if (c != null)
            return a => c.Invoke(a);
        return a => method.Invoke(null, a);
    }
}

I'm using it like this.

public struct Test {
  public readonly int A;
  public readonly string B;

  public Test(int a, string b) {
    A = a;
    B = b;
  }
}

var json = JsonConvert.SerializeObject(new Test(1, "Test"), new JsonSerializerSettings {
  ContractResolver = new CustomContractResolver()
});
var t = JsonConvert.DeserializeObject<Test>(json);
t.A.ShouldEqual(1);
t.B.ShouldEqual("Test");

What does 'index 0 is out of bounds for axis 0 with size 0' mean?

In numpy, index and dimension numbering starts with 0. So axis 0 means the 1st dimension. Also in numpy a dimension can have length (size) 0. The simplest case is:

In [435]: x = np.zeros((0,), int)
In [436]: x
Out[436]: array([], dtype=int32)
In [437]: x[0]
...
IndexError: index 0 is out of bounds for axis 0 with size 0

I also get it if x = np.zeros((0,5), int), a 2d array with 0 rows, and 5 columns.

So someplace in your code you are creating an array with a size 0 first axis.

When asking about errors, it is expected that you tell us where the error occurs.

Also when debugging problems like this, the first thing you should do is print the shape (and maybe the dtype) of the suspected variables.

Applied to pandas

Resolving the error:

  1. Use a try-except block
  2. Verify the size of the array is not 0
    • if x.size != 0:

How to pass parameters to a Script tag?

Got it. Kind of a hack, but it works pretty nice:

var params = document.body.getElementsByTagName('script');
query = params[0].classList;
var param_a = query[0];
var param_b = query[1];
var param_c = query[2];

I pass the params in the script tag as classes:

<script src="http://path.to/widget.js" class="2 5 4"></script>

Using Mockito to stub and execute methods for testing

So, the idea of mocking the class under test is anathima to testing practice. You should NOT do this. Because you have done so, your test is entering Mockito's mocking classes not your class under test.

Spying will also not work because this only provides a wrapper / proxy around the spied class. Once execution is inside the class it will not go through the proxy and therefore not hit the spy. UPDATE: although I believe this to be true of Spring proxies it appears to not be true of Mockito spies. I set up a scenario where method m1() calls m2(). I spy the object and stub m2() to doNothing. When I invoke m1() in my test, m2() of the class is not reached. Mockito invokes the stub. So using a spy to accomplish what is being asked is possible. However, I would reiterate that I would consider it bad practice (IMHO).

You should mock all the classes on which the class under test depends. This will allow you to control the behavior of the methods invoked by the method under test in that you control the class that those methods invoke.

If your class creates instances of other classes, consider using factories.

What is the Python equivalent for a case/switch statement?

While the official docs are happy not to provide switch, I have seen a solution using dictionaries.

For example:

# define the function blocks
def zero():
    print "You typed zero.\n"

def sqr():
    print "n is a perfect square\n"

def even():
    print "n is an even number\n"

def prime():
    print "n is a prime number\n"

# map the inputs to the function blocks
options = {0 : zero,
           1 : sqr,
           4 : sqr,
           9 : sqr,
           2 : even,
           3 : prime,
           5 : prime,
           7 : prime,
}

Then the equivalent switch block is invoked:

options[num]()

This begins to fall apart if you heavily depend on fall through.

How to force IE to reload javascript?

This should do the trick for ASP.NET. The concept is the same as shown in the PHP example. Since the URL is different everytime the script is loaded, neither browser of proxy should cache the file. I'm used to put my JavaScript code into separate files, and wasted a significant amount of time with Visual Studio until I realized that it wouldn't reload the JavaScript files.

<script src="Scripts/main.js?version=<% =DateTime.Now.Ticks.ToString()%>" type="text/javascript"></script>

Full example:

<%@ Page Title="Home Page" Language="C#" MasterPageFile="~/Site.master" AutoEventWireup="true"
    CodeBehind="Default.aspx.cs" Inherits="WebApplication1._Default" %>

<asp:Content ID="HeaderContent" runat="server" ContentPlaceHolderID="HeadContent">

   <script src="Scripts/jquery-1.4.1-vsdoc.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
   <script src="Scripts/main.js?version=<% =DateTime.Now.Ticks.ToString()%>" type="text/javascript"></script>
    <script type="text/javascript">

        $(document).ready(function () {
                                myInit();
                          });

    </script>
</asp:Content>

Obvously, this solution should only be used during the development stage, and should be removed before posting the site.

No increment operator (++) in Ruby?

From a posting by Matz:

(1) ++ and -- are NOT reserved operator in Ruby.

(2) C's increment/decrement operators are in fact hidden assignment. They affect variables, not objects. You cannot accomplish assignment via method. Ruby uses +=/-= operator instead.

(3) self cannot be a target of assignment. In addition, altering the value of integer 1 might cause severe confusion throughout the program.

How to install the Raspberry Pi cross compiler on my Linux host machine?

You may use clang as well. It used to be faster than GCC, and now it is quite a stable thing. It is much easier to build clang from sources (you can really drink cup of coffee during build process).

In short:

  1. Get clang binaries (sudo apt-get install clang).. or download and build (read instructions here)
  2. Mount your raspberry rootfs (it may be the real rootfs mounted via sshfs, or an image).
  3. Compile your code:

    path/to/clang --target=arm-linux-gnueabihf --sysroot=/some/path/arm-linux-gnueabihf/sysroot my-happy-program.c -fuse-ld=lld

Optionally you may use legacy arm-linux-gnueabihf binutils. Then you may remove "-fuse-ld=lld" flag at the end.

Below is my cmake toolchain file.

How to reverse MD5 to get the original string?

Its not possible thats the whole point of hashing. You can however bruteforce by going through all possibilities (using all possible digits characters in every possible order) and hashing them and checking for a collision.

for more information on hashing and MD5 etc see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MD5 , http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hash_function , http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cryptographic_hash_function and http://onin.com/hhh/hhhexpl.html

I myself created my own app to do this, its open source you can check the link: http://sourceforge.net/projects/jpassrecovery/ and of course the source. Here is the source for easy access it has a basic implementation in the comments:

Retrieve WordPress root directory path?

If you have WordPress bootstrap loaded you can use get_home_path() function to get path to the WordPress root directory.

How SID is different from Service name in Oracle tnsnames.ora

As per Oracle Glossary :

SID is a unique name for an Oracle database instance. ---> To switch between Oracle databases, users must specify the desired SID <---. The SID is included in the CONNECT DATA parts of the connect descriptors in a TNSNAMES.ORA file, and in the definition of the network listener in the LISTENER.ORA file. Also known as System ID. Oracle Service Name may be anything descriptive like "MyOracleServiceORCL". In Windows, You can your Service Name running as a service under Windows Services.

You should use SID in TNSNAMES.ORA as a better approach.

JavaScript - Get Portion of URL Path

There is a property of the built-in window.location object that will provide that for the current window.

// If URL is http://www.somedomain.com/account/search?filter=a#top

window.location.pathname // /account/search

// For reference:

window.location.host // www.somedomain.com (includes port if there is one)
window.location.hostname // www.somedomain.com
window.location.hash     // #top
window.location.href     // http://www.somedomain.com/account/search?filter=a#top
window.location.port     // (empty string)
window.location.protocol // http:
window.location.search   // ?filter=a

Update, use the same properties for any URL:

It turns out that this schema is being standardized as an interface called URLUtils, and guess what? Both the existing window.location object and anchor elements implement the interface.

So you can use the same properties above for any URL — just create an anchor with the URL and access the properties:

var el = document.createElement('a');
el.href = "http://www.somedomain.com/account/search?filter=a#top";

el.host        // www.somedomain.com (includes port if there is one[1])
el.hostname    // www.somedomain.com
el.hash        // #top
el.href        // http://www.somedomain.com/account/search?filter=a#top
el.pathname    // /account/search
el.port        // (port if there is one[1])
el.protocol    // http:
el.search      // ?filter=a

[1]: Browser support for the properties that include port is not consistent, See: http://jessepollak.me/chrome-was-wrong-ie-was-right

This works in the latest versions of Chrome and Firefox. I do not have versions of Internet Explorer to test, so please test yourself with the JSFiddle example.

JSFiddle example

There's also a coming URL object that will offer this support for URLs themselves, without the anchor element. Looks like no stable browsers support it at this time, but it is said to be coming in Firefox 26. When you think you might have support for it, try it out here.

More elegant "ps aux | grep -v grep"

You could use preg_split instead of explode and split on [ ]+ (one or more spaces). But I think in this case you could go with preg_match_all and capturing:

preg_match_all('/[ ]php[ ]+\S+[ ]+(\S+)/', $input, $matches);
$result = $matches[1];

The pattern matches a space, php, more spaces, a string of non-spaces (the path), more spaces, and then captures the next string of non-spaces. The first space is mostly to ensure that you don't match php as part of a user name but really only as a command.

An alternative to capturing is the "keep" feature of PCRE. If you use \K in the pattern, everything before it is discarded in the match:

preg_match_all('/[ ]php[ ]+\S+[ ]+\K\S+/', $input, $matches);
$result = $matches[0];

I would use preg_match(). I do something similar for many of my system management scripts. Here is an example:

$test = "user     12052  0.2  0.1 137184 13056 ?        Ss   10:00   0:00 php /home/user/public_html/utilities/runProcFile.php cust1 cron

$lines = explode("\n", $test);

foreach($lines as $line){
        if(preg_match("/.php[\s+](cust[\d]+)[\s+]cron/i", $line, $matches)){
                print_r($matches);
        }

}

The above prints:

Array
(
    [0] => .php cust1 cron
    [1] => cust1
)
Array
(
    [0] => .php cust3 cron
    [1] => cust3

Array
(

)

You can set $test to equal the output from exec. the values you are looking for would be in the if statement under the foreach. $matches[1] will have the custx value.

What's the difference between a null pointer and a void pointer?

A null pointer points has the value NULL which is typically 0, but in any case a memory location which is invalid to dereference. A void pointer points at data of type void. The word "void" is not an indication that the data referenced by the pointer is invalid or that the pointer has been nullified.

Logging with Retrofit 2

The main problem which I faced was dynamical adding headers and logging them into debug logcat. I've tried to add two interceptors. One for logging and one for adding headers on-the-go (token authorization). The problem was that we may .addInterceptor or .addNetworkInterceptor. As Jake Wharton said to me: "Network interceptors always come after application interceptors. See https://github.com/square/okhttp/wiki/Interceptors". So here is working example with headers and logs:

OkHttpClient httpClient = new OkHttpClient.Builder()
            //here we can add Interceptor for dynamical adding headers
            .addNetworkInterceptor(new Interceptor() {
                @Override
                public Response intercept(Chain chain) throws IOException {
                    Request request = chain.request().newBuilder().addHeader("test", "test").build();
                    return chain.proceed(request);
                }
            })
            //here we adding Interceptor for full level logging
            .addNetworkInterceptor(new HttpLoggingInterceptor().setLevel(HttpLoggingInterceptor.Level.BODY))
            .build();

    Retrofit retrofit = new Retrofit.Builder()
            .addConverterFactory(GsonConverterFactory.create(gsonBuilder.create()))
            .addCallAdapterFactory(RxJavaCallAdapterFactory.create())
            .client(httpClient)
            .baseUrl(AppConstants.SERVER_ADDRESS)
            .build();

OS X Terminal shortcut: Jump to beginning/end of line

For iterm2:

Go to Profiles / Open Profiles / Keys

Set Cmd + left_arrow_key to Send Hex Code 001

Set Cmd + right_arrow_key to Send Hex Code 005

This allows you to use Cmd + arrow_keys to move from beginning to end of the line.

Difference between Destroy and Delete

A lot of answers already; wanted to jump on with a bit more.

docs:

For has_many, destroy and destroy_all will always call the destroy method of the record(s) being removed so that callbacks are run. However delete and delete_all will either do the deletion according to the strategy specified by the :dependent option, or if no :dependent option is given, then it will follow the default strategy. The default strategy is to do nothing (leave the foreign keys with the parent ids set), except for has_many :through, where the default strategy is delete_all (delete the join records, without running their callbacks).

The delete verbage works differently for ActiveRecord::Association.has_many and ActiveRecord::Base. For the latter, delete will execute SQL DELETE and bypass all validations/callbacks. The former will be executed based on the :dependent option passed into the association. However, during testing, I found the following side effect where callbacks were only ran for delete and not delete_all

dependent: :destroy Example:

class Parent < ApplicationRecord
   has_many :children,
     before_remove: -> (_) { puts "before_remove callback" },
     dependent: :destroy
end

class Child < ApplicationRecord
   belongs_to :parent

   before_destroy -> { puts "before_destroy callback" }
end

> child.delete                            # Ran without callbacks
Child Destroy (99.6ms)  DELETE FROM "children" WHERE "children"."id" = $1  [["id", 21]]

> parent.children.delete(other_child)     # Ran with callbacks
before_remove callback
before_destroy callback
Child Destroy (0.4ms)  DELETE FROM "children" WHERE "children"."id" = $1  [["id", 22]]

> parent.children.delete_all              # Ran without callbacks
Child Destroy (1.0ms)  DELETE FROM "children" WHERE "children"."parent_id" = $1  [["parent_id", 1]]

Parsing CSV files in C#, with header

Some time ago I had wrote simple class for CSV read/write based on Microsoft.VisualBasic library. Using this simple class you will be able to work with CSV like with 2 dimensions array. You can find my class by the following link: https://github.com/ukushu/DataExporter

Simple example of usage:

Csv csv = new Csv("\t");//delimiter symbol

csv.FileOpen("c:\\file1.csv");

var row1Cell6Value = csv.Rows[0][5];

csv.AddRow("asdf","asdffffff","5")

csv.FileSave("c:\\file2.csv");

For reading header only you need is to read csv.Rows[0] cells :)

Verilog generate/genvar in an always block

You don't need a generate bock if you want all the bits of temp assigned in the same always block.

parameter ROWBITS = 4;
reg [ROWBITS-1:0] temp;
always @(posedge sysclk) begin
    for (integer c=0; c<ROWBITS; c=c+1) begin: test
        temp[c] <= 1'b0;
    end
end

Alternatively, if your simulator supports IEEE 1800 (SytemVerilog), then

parameter ROWBITS = 4;
reg [ROWBITS-1:0] temp;
always @(posedge sysclk) begin
        temp <= '0; // fill with 0
    end
end

How do you easily create empty matrices javascript?

How to get a path to a resource in a Java JAR file

You need to understand the path within the jar file.
Simply refer to it relative. So if you have a file (myfile.txt), located in foo.jar under the \src\main\resources directory (maven style). You would refer to it like:

src/main/resources/myfile.txt

If you dump your jar using jar -tvf myjar.jar you will see the output and the relative path within the jar file, and use the FORWARD SLASHES.

java.net.SocketException: Connection reset

I also had this problem with a Java program trying to send a command on a server via SSH. The problem was with the machine executing the Java code. It didn't have the permission to connect to the remote server. The write() method was doing alright, but the read() method was throwing a java.net.SocketException: Connection reset. I fixed this problem with adding the client SSH key to the remote server known keys.

Disable pasting text into HTML form

Simple solution: just reverse the registration process: instead of requiring confirmation at the end of registration process, request confirmation at the beginning of it! I.e. the registration process started with a simple form asking for e-mail address and nothing else. Upon submitting, an e-mail with link to a confirmation page unique to the e-mail address sent out. The user go to that page, then the rest of information for the registration (user name, full name, etc.) will be requested.

This is simple since the website does not even need to store anything before confirmation, the e-mail address can be encrypted with a key and attached as part of the confirmation page address.

Formula to determine brightness of RGB color

I found this code (written in C#) that does an excellent job of calculating the "brightness" of a color. In this scenario, the code is trying to determine whether to put white or black text over the color.

How do I change the font color in an html table?

Try this:

 <html>
    <head>
        <style>
            select {
              height: 30px;
              color: #0000ff;
            }
        </style>
    </head>
    <body>
        <table>
            <tbody>
                <tr>
                    <td>
                        <select name="test">
                            <option value="Basic">Basic : $30.00 USD - yearly</option>
                            <option value="Sustaining">Sustaining : $60.00 USD - yearly</option>
                            <option value="Supporting">Supporting : $120.00 USD - yearly</option>
                        </select>
                    </td>
                </tr>
            </tbody>
        </table>
    </body>
</html>

Removing object from array in Swift 3

The Swift equivalent to NSMutableArray's removeObject is:

var array = ["alpha", "beta", "gamma"]

if let index = array.firstIndex(of: "beta") {
    array.remove(at: index)
}

if the objects are unique. There is no need at all to cast to NSArray and use indexOfObject:

The API index(of: also works but this causes an unnecessary implicit bridge cast to NSArray.

If there are multiple occurrences of the same object use filter. However in cases like data source arrays where an index is associated with a particular object firstIndex(of is preferable because it's faster than filter.

Update:

In Swift 4.2+ you can remove one or multiple occurrences of beta with removeAll(where:):

array.removeAll{$0 == "beta"}

How to fix "Only one expression can be specified in the select list when the subquery is not introduced with EXISTS" error?

Try this:

 Select
    Id,
    Salt,
    Password,
    BannedEndDate,
    (Select Count(*)
        From LoginFails
        Where username = '" + LoginModel.Username + "' And IP = '" + Request.ServerVariables["REMOTE_ADDR"] + "')
 From Users
 Where username = '" + LoginModel.Username + "'

And I recommend you strongly to use parameters in your query to avoid security risks with sql injection attacks!

Hope that helps!

How to append data to a json file?

I have some code which is similar, but does not rewrite the entire contents each time. This is meant to run periodically and append a JSON entry at the end of an array.

If the file doesn't exist yet, it creates it and dumps the JSON into an array. If the file has already been created, it goes to the end, replaces the ] with a , drops the new JSON object in, and then closes it up again with another ]

# Append JSON object to output file JSON array
fname = "somefile.txt"
if os.path.isfile(fname):
    # File exists
    with open(fname, 'a+') as outfile:
        outfile.seek(-1, os.SEEK_END)
        outfile.truncate()
        outfile.write(',')
        json.dump(data_dict, outfile)
        outfile.write(']')
else:
    # Create file
    with open(fname, 'w') as outfile:
        array = []
        array.append(data_dict)
        json.dump(array, outfile)

Best way to convert IList or IEnumerable to Array

Which version of .NET are you using? If it's .NET 3.5, I'd just call ToArray() and be done with it.

If you only have a non-generic IEnumerable, do something like this:

IEnumerable query = ...;
MyEntityType[] array = query.Cast<MyEntityType>().ToArray();

If you don't know the type within that method but the method's callers do know it, make the method generic and try this:

public static void T[] PerformQuery<T>()
{
    IEnumerable query = ...;
    T[] array = query.Cast<T>().ToArray();
    return array;
}

Can't bind to 'dataSource' since it isn't a known property of 'table'

For Angular 7

Check where is your table component located. In my case it was located like app/shared/tablecomponent where shared folder contains all sub components But I was importing material module in Ngmodules of app.module.ts which was incorrect. In this case Material module should be imported in Ngmodules of shared.module.ts And it works.

There is NO NEED to change 'table' to 'mat-table' in angular 7.

How do you serve a file for download with AngularJS or Javascript?

In our current project at work we had a invisible iFrame and I had to feed the url for the file to the iFrame to get a download dialog box. On the button click, the controller generates the dynamic url and triggers a $scope event where a custom directive I wrote, is listing. The directive will append a iFrame to the body if it does not exist already and sets the url attribute on it.

EDIT: Adding a directive

appModule.directive('fileDownload', function ($compile) {
    var fd = {
        restrict: 'A',
        link: function (scope, iElement, iAttrs) {

            scope.$on("downloadFile", function (e, url) {
                var iFrame = iElement.find("iframe");
                if (!(iFrame && iFrame.length > 0)) {
                    iFrame = $("<iframe style='position:fixed;display:none;top:-1px;left:-1px;'/>");
                    iElement.append(iFrame);
                }

                iFrame.attr("src", url);

            });
        }
    };

    return fd;
});

This directive responds to a controller event called downloadFile

so in your controller you do

$scope.$broadcast("downloadFile", url);

Java ArrayList clear() function

Source code of clear shows the reason why the newly added data gets the first position.

 public void clear() {
    modCount++;

    // Let gc do its work
    for (int i = 0; i < size; i++)
        elementData[i] = null;

    size = 0;
    }

clear() is faster than removeAll() by the way, first one is O(n) while the latter is O(n_2)

Assignment makes pointer from integer without cast

You don't need these two assigments:

cString1 = strToLower(cString1);
cString2 = strToLower(cString2);

you are modifying the strings in place.

Warnings are because you are returning a char, and assigning to a char[] (which is equivalent to char*)

Change / Add syntax highlighting for a language in Sublime 2/3

This is my recipe

Note: This isn't exactly what OP is asking. These instructions will help you change the colors of items (comments, keywords, etc) that are defined syntax matching rules. For example, use these instructions to change so that all code comments are colored blue instead of green.

I believe the OP is asking how to define this as an item to be colored when found in a JavaScript source file.

  1. Install Package: PackageResourceViewer

  2. Ctrl+Shift+P > [PackageResourceViewer: Open Resource] > [Color Scheme - Default] > [Marina.sublime-color-scheme] (or whichever color scheme you use)

  3. The above command will open a new tab to the file "Marina.sublime-color-scheme".

    • For me, this file was located in my roaming profile %appdata% (C:\Users\walter\AppData\Roaming\Sublime Text 3\Packages\Color Scheme - Default\) .
    • However, if I browse to that path in Windows Explorer, [Color Scheme - Default] is not of a child-dir of [Packages] dir. I suspect that PackageResourceViewer is doing some virtualization.

optional step: On the new color-scheme tab: Ctrl+Shift+P > [Set Syntax: JSON]

  1. Search for the rule you want to change. I wanted to make comments be move visible, so I searched for "Comment"

    • I found it in the "rules" section
 "rules":
    [
        {
            "name": "Comment",
            "scope": "comment, punctuation.definition.comment",
            "foreground": "var(blue6)"
        },
  1. Search for the string "blue6": to find the color variable definitions section. I found it in the "variables" section.

  2. Pick a new color using a tool like http://hslpicker.com/ .

  3. Either define a new color variable, or overwrite the color setting for blue6.

    • Warning: overwriting blue6 will affect all other text-elements in that color scheme which also use blue6 ("Punctuation" "Accessor").
  4. Save your file, the changes will be applied instantly to any open files/tabs.

NOTES

Sublime will handle any of these color styles. Possibly more.

Is mongodb running?

Correct, closing the shell will stop MongoDB. Try using the --fork command line arg for the mongod process which makes it run as a daemon instead. I'm no Unix guru, but I'm sure there must be a way to then get it to auto start when the machine boots up.

e.g.

mongod --fork --logpath /var/log/mongodb.log --logappend

How do I hide the PHP explode delimiter from submitted form results?

Instead of adding the line breaks with nl2br() and then removing the line breaks with explode(), try using the line break character '\r' or '\n' or '\r\n'.

<?php     $options= file_get_contents("employees.txt");     $options=explode("\n",$options);        // try \r as well.      foreach ($options as $singleOption){         echo "<option value='".$singleOption."'>".$singleOption."</option>";     }   ?>

This could also fix the issue if the problem was due to Google Spreadsheets reading the line breaks.

How to decode a Base64 string?

Isn't encoding taking the text TO base64 and decoding taking base64 BACK to text? You seem be mixing them up here. When I decode using this online decoder I get:

BASE64: blahblah
UTF8: nVnV

not the other way around. I can't reproduce it completely in PS though. See sample below:

PS > [System.Text.Encoding]::UTF8.GetString([System.Convert]::FromBase64String("blahblah"))
nV?nV?

PS > [System.Convert]::ToBase64String([System.Text.Encoding]::UTF8.GetBytes("nVnV"))
blZuVg==

EDIT I believe you're using the wrong encoder for your text. The encoded base64 string is encoded from UTF8(or ASCII) string.

PS > [System.Text.Encoding]::UTF8.GetString([System.Convert]::FromBase64String("YmxhaGJsYWg="))

PS > [System.Text.Encoding]::Unicode.GetString([System.Convert]::FromBase64String("YmxhaGJsYWg="))
????

PS > [System.Text.Encoding]::ASCII.GetString([System.Convert]::FromBase64String("YmxhaGJsYWg="))

Injecting @Autowired private field during testing

You can absolutely inject mocks on MyLauncher in your test. I am sure if you show what mocking framework you are using someone would be quick to provide an answer. With mockito I would look into using @RunWith(MockitoJUnitRunner.class) and using annotations for myLauncher. It would look something like what is below.

@RunWith(MockitoJUnitRunner.class)
public class MyLauncherTest
    @InjectMocks
    private MyLauncher myLauncher = new MyLauncher();

    @Mock
    private MyService myService;

    @Test
    public void someTest() {

    }
}

How to format x-axis time scale values in Chart.js v2

as per the Chart js documentation page tick configuration section. you can format the value of each tick using the callback function. for example I wanted to change locale of displayed dates to be always German. in the ticks parts of the axis options

        return new Date(value).toLocaleDateString('de-DE', {month:'short', year:'numeric'});
    },

How do I add a submodule to a sub-directory?

You go into ~/.janus and run:

git submodule add <git@github ...> snipmate-snippets/snippets/

If you need more information about submodules (or git in general) ProGit is pretty useful.

Exception : mockito wanted but not invoked, Actually there were zero interactions with this mock

You need to inject mock inside the class you're testing. At the moment you're interacting with the real object, not with the mock one. You can fix the code in a following way:

void testAbc(){
     myClass.myObj = myInteface;
     myClass.abc();
     verify(myInterface).myMethodToBeVerified(new String("a"), new String("b"));
}

although it would be a wiser choice to extract all initialization code into @Before

@Before
void setUp(){
     myClass = new myClass();
     myClass.myObj = myInteface;
}

@Test
void testAbc(){
     myClass.abc();
     verify(myInterface).myMethodToBeVerified(new String("a"), new String("b"));
}
