Javascript: Unicode string to hex

Here is a tweak of McDowell's algorithm that doesn't pad the result:

  function toHex(str) {
    var result = '';
    for (var i=0; i<str.length; i++) {
      result += str.charCodeAt(i).toString(16);
    }
    return result;
  }

String.Format not work in TypeScript

I solved it like this;

1.Created a function

export function FormatString(str: string, ...val: string[]) {
  for (let index = 0; index < val.length; index++) {
    str = str.replace(`{${index}}`, val[index]);
  }
  return str;
}

2.Used it like the following;

FormatString("{0} is {1} {2}", "This", "formatting", "hack");

Conversion between UTF-8 ArrayBuffer and String

If you are doing this in browser there are no character encoding libraries built-in, but you can get by with:

function pad(n) {
    return n.length < 2 ? "0" + n : n;
}

var array = new Uint8Array(data);
var str = "";
for( var i = 0, len = array.length; i < len; ++i ) {
    str += ( "%" + pad(array[i].toString(16)))
}

str = decodeURIComponent(str);

Here's a demo that decodes a 3-byte UTF-8 unit: http://jsfiddle.net/Z9pQE/

var str = string.substring(0, string.length-1);

fileReader.readAsBinaryString to upload files

(Following is a late but complete answer)

FileReader methods support

FileReader.readAsBinaryString() is deprecated. Don't use it! It's no longer in the W3C File API working draft:

void abort();
void readAsArrayBuffer(Blob blob);
void readAsText(Blob blob, optional DOMString encoding);
void readAsDataURL(Blob blob);

NB: Note that File is a kind of extended Blob structure.

Mozilla still implements readAsBinaryString() and describes it in MDN FileApi documentation:

void abort();
void readAsArrayBuffer(in Blob blob); Requires Gecko 7.0
void readAsBinaryString(in Blob blob);
void readAsDataURL(in Blob file);
void readAsText(in Blob blob, [optional] in DOMString encoding);

The reason behind readAsBinaryString() deprecation is in my opinion the following: the standard for JavaScript strings are DOMString which only accept UTF-8 characters, NOT random binary data. So don't use readAsBinaryString(), that's not safe and ECMAScript-compliant at all.

We know that JavaScript strings are not supposed to store binary data but Mozilla in some sort can. That's dangerous in my opinion. Blob and typed arrays (ArrayBuffer and the not-yet-implemented but not necessary StringView) were invented for one purpose: allow the use of pure binary data, without UTF-8 strings restrictions.

XMLHttpRequest upload support

XMLHttpRequest.send() has the following invocations options:

void send();
void send(ArrayBuffer data);
void send(Blob data);
void send(Document data);
void send(DOMString? data);
void send(FormData data);

XMLHttpRequest.sendAsBinary() has the following invocations options:

void sendAsBinary(   in DOMString body );

sendAsBinary() is NOT a standard and may not be supported in Chrome.

Solutions

So you have several options:

  1. send() the FileReader.result of FileReader.readAsArrayBuffer ( fileObject ). It is more complicated to manipulate (you'll have to make a separate send() for it) but it's the RECOMMENDED APPROACH.
  2. send() the FileReader.result of FileReader.readAsDataURL( fileObject ). It generates useless overhead and compression latency, requires a decompression step on the server-side BUT it's easy to manipulate as a string in Javascript.
  3. Being non-standard and sendAsBinary() the FileReader.result of FileReader.readAsBinaryString( fileObject )

MDN states that:

The best way to send binary content (like in files upload) is using ArrayBuffers or Blobs in conjuncton with the send() method. However, if you want to send a stringifiable raw data, use the sendAsBinary() method instead, or the StringView (Non native) typed arrays superclass.

Best way to restrict a text field to numbers only?

This JavaScript function will be used to restrict alphabets and special characters in Textbox , only numbers, delete, arrow keys and backspace will be allowed. JavaScript Code Snippet - Allow Numbers in TextBox, Restrict Alphabets and Special Characters

Tested in IE & Chrome.

JavaScript function

<script type="text/javascript">
    /*code: 48-57 Numbers
      8  - Backspace,
      35 - home key, 36 - End key
      37-40: Arrow keys, 46 - Delete key*/
    function restrictAlphabets(e){
        var x=e.which||e.keycode;
        if((x>=48 && x<=57) || x==8 ||
            (x>=35 && x<=40)|| x==46)
            return true;
        else
            return false;
    }
</script>

HTML Source Code with JavaScript

<html>
    <head>
        <title>JavaScript - Allow only numbers in TextBox (Restrict Alphabets and Special Characters).</title>
        <script type="text/javascript">

              37-40: Arrow keys, 46 - Delete key*/
            function restrictAlphabets(e){
                var x=e.which||e.keycode;
                if((x>=48 && x<=57) || x==8 ||
                    (x>=35 && x<=40)|| x==46)
                    return true;
                else
                    return false;
            }
        </script>
    </head>
<body style="text-align: center;">
    <h1>JavaScript - Allow only numbers in TextBox (Restrict Alphabets and Special Characters).</h1>
    <big>Enter numbers only: </big>
    <input type="text" onkeypress='return restrictAlphabets(event)'/>

Get Character value from KeyCode in JavaScript... then trim

In my experience String.fromCharCode(e.keyCode) is unreliable. String.fromCharCode expects unicode charcodes as an argument; e.keyCode returns javascript keycodes. Javascript keycodes and unicode charcodes are not the same thing! In particular, the numberpad keys return a different keycode from the ordinary number keys (since they are different keys) while the same keycode is returned for both upper and lowercase letters (you pressed the same key in both cases), despite them having different charcodes.

For example, the ordinary number key 1 generates an event with keycode 49 while numberpad key 1 (with Numlock on) generates keycode 97. Used with String.fromCharCode we get the following:

String.fromCharCode(49) returns "1"
String.fromCharCode(97) returns "a"

String.fromCharCode expects unicode charcodes, not javascript keycodes. The key a generates an event with a keycode of 65, independentant of the case of the character it would generate (there is also a modifier for if the Shift key is pressed, etc. in the event). The character a has a unicode charcode of 61 while the character A has a charcode of 41 (according to, for example, http://www.utf8-chartable.de/). However, those are hex values, converting to decimal gives us a charcode of 65 for "A" and 97 for "a".[1] This is consistent with what we get from String.fromCharCode for these values.

My own requirement was limited to processing numbers and ordinary letters (accepting or rejecting depending on the position in the string) and letting control characters (F-keys, Ctrl-something) through. Thus I can check for the control characters, if it's not a control character I check against a range and only then do I need to get the actual character. Given I'm not worried about case (I change all letters to uppercase anyway) and have already limited the range of keycodes, I only have to worry about the numberpad keys. The following suffices for that:

String.fromCharCode((96 <= key && key <= 105)? key-48 : key)

More generally, a function to reliably return the character from a charcode would be great (maybe as a jQuery plugin), but I don't have time to write it just now. Sorry.

I'd also mention e.which (if you're using jQuery) which normalizes e.keyCode and e.charCode, so that you don't need to worry about what sort of key was pressed. The problem with combining it with String.fromCharCode remains.

[1] I was confused for a while -. all the docs say that String.fromCharCode expects a unicode charcode, while in practice it seemed to work for ASCII charcodes, but that was I think due to the need to convert to decimal from hex, combined with the fact that ASCII charcodes and unicode decimal charcodes overlap for ordinary latin letters.

Visual Studio 2017 errors on standard headers

If anyone's still stuck on this, the easiest solution I found was to "Retarget Solution". In my case, the project was built of SDK 8.1, upgrading to VS2017 brought with it SDK 10.0.xxx.

To retarget solution: Project->Retarget Solution->"Select whichever SDK you have installed"->OK

From there on you can simply build/debug your solution. Hope it helps

How to download source in ZIP format from GitHub?

Even though this is fairly an old question, I have my 2 cents to share.

You can download the repo as tar.gz as well

Like the zipball link pointed by various answers here, There is a tarball link as well which downloads the content of the git repository in tar.gz format.

curl -L http://github.com/zoul/Finch/tarball/master/

A better way

Git also provides a different URL pattern where you can simply append the type of file you want to download at the end of url. This way is better if you want to process these urls in a batch or bash script.

curl -L http://github.com/zoul/Finch/archive/master.zip

curl -L http://github.com/zoul/Finch/archive/master.tar.gz

To download a specific commit or branch

Replace master with the commit-hash or the branch-name in the above urls like below.

curl -L http://github.com/zoul/Finch/archive/cfeb671ac55f6b1aba6ed28b9bc9b246e0e.zip
curl -L http://github.com/zoul/Finch/archive/cfeb671ac55f6b1aba6ed28b9bc9b246e0e.tar.gz

curl -L http://github.com/zoul/Finch/archive/your-branch-name.zip
curl -L http://github.com/zoul/Finch/archive/your-branch-name.tar.gz

How to make background of table cell transparent

You can use the CSS property "background-color: transparent;", or use apha on rgba color representation. Example: "background-color: rgba(216,240,218,0);"

The apha is the last value. It is a decimal number that goes from 0 (totally transparent) to 1 (totally visible).

Securing a password in a properties file

Actually, this is a duplicate of Encrypt Password in Configuration Files?.

The best solution I found so far is in this answert: https://stackoverflow.com/a/1133815/1549977

Pros: Password is saved a a char array, not as a string. It's still not good, but better than anything else.

docker-compose up for only certain containers

I actually had a very similar challenge on my current project. That broght me to the idea of writing a small script which I called docker-compose-profile (or short: dcp). I published this today on GitLab as docker-compose-profile. So in short: I now can start several predefined docker-compose profiles using a command like dcp -p some-services "up -d". Feel free to try it out and give some feedback or suggestions for further improvements.

Passing parameters to click() & bind() event in jquery?

From where would you get these values? If they're from the button itself, you could just do

commentbtn.click(function() {
   alert(this.id);
});

If they're a variable in the binding scope, you can access them from without

var id = 1;
commentbtn.click(function() {
   alert(id);
});

If they're a variable in the binding scope, that might change before the click is called, you'll need to create a new closure

for(var i = 0; i < 5; i++) {
   $('#button'+i).click((function(id) {
      return function() {
         alert(id);
      };
   }(i)));
}

How to add a WiX custom action that happens only on uninstall (via MSI)?

The biggest problem with a batch script is handling rollback when the user clicks cancel (or something goes wrong during your install). The correct way to handle this scenario is to create a CustomAction that adds temporary rows to the RemoveFiles table. That way the Windows Installer handles the rollback cases for you. It is insanely simpler when you see the solution.

Anyway, to have an action only execute during uninstall add a Condition element with:

REMOVE ~= "ALL"

the ~= says compare case insensitive (even though I think ALL is always uppercaesd). See the MSI SDK documentation about Conditions Syntax for more information.

PS: There has never been a case where I sat down and thought, "Oh, batch file would be a good solution in an installation package." Actually, finding an installation package that has a batch file in it would only encourage me to return the product for a refund.

Is it possible to set a timeout for an SQL query on Microsoft SQL server?

If you have just one query I don't know how to set timeout on T-SQL level.

However if you have a few queries (i.e. collecting data into temporary tables) inside stored procedure you can just control time of execution with GETDATE(), DATEDIFF() and a few INT variables storing time of execution of each part.

Interview question: Check if one string is a rotation of other string

As others have submitted quadratic worst-case time complexity solution, I'd add a linear one (based on the KMP Algorithm):

bool is_rotation(const string& str1, const string& str2)
{
  if(str1.size()!=str2.size())
    return false;

  vector<size_t> prefixes(str1.size(), 0);
  for(size_t i=1, j=0; i<str1.size(); i++) {
    while(j>0 && str1[i]!=str1[j])
      j=prefixes[j-1];
    if(str1[i]==str1[j]) j++;
    prefixes[i]=j;
  }

  size_t i=0, j=0;
  for(; i<str2.size(); i++) {
    while(j>0 && str2[i]!=str1[j])
      j=prefixes[j-1];
    if(str2[i]==str1[j]) j++;
  }
  for(i=0; i<str2.size(); i++) {
    if(j>=str1.size()) return true;
    while(j>0 && str2[i]!=str1[j])
      j=prefixes[j-1];
    if(str2[i]==str1[j]) j++;
  }

  return false;
}

How do I use a PriorityQueue?

Just pass appropriate Comparator to the constructor:

PriorityQueue(int initialCapacity, Comparator<? super E> comparator)

The only difference between offer and add is the interface they belong to. offer belongs to Queue<E>, whereas add is originally seen in Collection<E> interface. Apart from that both methods do exactly the same thing - insert the specified element into priority queue.

Why does my favicon not show up?

  1. Is it really a .ico, or is it just named ".ico"?
  2. What browser are you testing in?

The absolutely easiest way to have a favicon is to place an icon called "favicon.ico" in the root folder. That just works everywhere, no code needed at all.

If you must have it in a subdirectory, use:

<link rel="shortcut icon" href="/img/favicon.ico" />

Note the / before img to ensure it is anchored to the root folder.

MS Access: how to compact current database in VBA

For Access 2013, you could just do

Sendkeys "%fic"

This is the same as typing ALT, F, I, C on your keyboard.

It's probably a different sequence of letters for different versions, but the "%" symbol means "ALT", so keep that in the code. you may just need to change the letters, depending on what letters appear when you press ALT

Convert an enum to List<string>

I want to add another solution: In my case, I need to use a Enum group in a drop down button list items. So they might have space, i.e. more user friendly descriptions needed:

  public enum CancelReasonsEnum
{
    [Description("In rush")]
    InRush,
    [Description("Need more coffee")]
    NeedMoreCoffee,
    [Description("Call me back in 5 minutes!")]
    In5Minutes
}

In a helper class (HelperMethods) I created the following method:

 public static List<string> GetListOfDescription<T>() where T : struct
    {
        Type t = typeof(T);
        return !t.IsEnum ? null : Enum.GetValues(t).Cast<Enum>().Select(x => x.GetDescription()).ToList();
    }

When you call this helper you will get the list of item descriptions.

 List<string> items = HelperMethods.GetListOfDescription<CancelReasonEnum>();

ADDITION: In any case, if you want to implement this method you need :GetDescription extension for enum. This is what I use.

 public static string GetDescription(this Enum value)
    {
        Type type = value.GetType();
        string name = Enum.GetName(type, value);
        if (name != null)
        {
            FieldInfo field = type.GetField(name);
            if (field != null)
            {
                DescriptionAttribute attr =Attribute.GetCustomAttribute(field,typeof(DescriptionAttribute)) as DescriptionAttribute;
                if (attr != null)
                {
                    return attr.Description;
                }
            }
        }
        return null;
        /* how to use
            MyEnum x = MyEnum.NeedMoreCoffee;
            string description = x.GetDescription();
        */

    }

UnicodeEncodeError: 'ascii' codec can't encode character u'\xa0' in position 20: ordinal not in range(128)

This problem often happens when a django project deploys using Apache. Because Apache sets environment variable LANG=C in /etc/sysconfig/httpd. Just open the file and comment (or change to your flavior) this setting. Or use the lang option of the WSGIDaemonProcess command, in this case you will be able to set different LANG environment variable to different virtualhosts.

How do I make a composite key with SQL Server Management Studio?

here is some code to do it:

-- Sample Table
create table myTable
(
    Column1 int not null,
    Column2 int not null
)
GO

-- Add Constraint
ALTER TABLE myTable
    ADD CONSTRAINT pk_myConstraint PRIMARY KEY (Column1,Column2)
GO

I added the constraint as a separate statement because I presume your table has already been created.

Visual Studio Code Search and Replace with Regular Expressions

For beginners, I wanted to add to the accepted answer, because a couple of subtleties were unclear to me:

To find and modify text (not completely replace),

  1. In the "Find" step, you can use regex with "capturing groups," e.g. your search could be la la la (group1) blah blah (group2), using parentheses.

  2. And then in the "Replace" step, you can refer to the capturing groups via $1, $2 etc.

So, for example, in this case we could find the relevant text with just <h1>.+?<\/h1> (no parentheses), but putting in the parentheses <h1>(.+?)<\/h1> allows us to refer to the sub-match in between them as $1 in the replace step. Cool!

Notes

  • To turn on Regex in the Find Widget, click the .* icon, or press Cmd/Ctrl Alt R

  • $0 refers to the whole match

  • Finally, the original question states that the replace should happen "within a document," so you can use the "Find Widget" (Cmd or Ctrl + F), which is local to the open document, instead of "Search", which opens a bigger UI and looks across all files in the project.

pytest cannot import module while python can

In my case, the import error occurred because the package is pointing to another package/directory with the same name and its path is one level above the folder I actually wanted. I think this also explains why some people need to remove _ init _.py while others need to add back.

I just put print(the_root_package.__path__) (after import the_root_package) in both python console and pytest scripts to compare the difference

BOTTOM LINE: When you do python, the package you import may be different from the package when you run pytest.

Where does Chrome store extensions?

This link "Finding All Installed Browsers in Windows XP and Vista – beware 64bit!" may be useful for Windows as suggested by "How to find all the browsers installed on a machine".

The installed web browsers are saved in this registry,

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\StartMenuInternet

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Clients\StartMenuInternet.

Pandas rename column by position?

You can do this:

df.rename(columns={ df.columns[1]: "whatever" })

Laravel Eloquent update just if changes have been made

I like to add this method, if you are using an edit form, you can use this code to save the changes in your update(Request $request, $id) function:

$post = Post::find($id);
$post->fill($request->input())->save();

keep in mind that you have to name your inputs with the same column name. The fill() function will do all the work for you :)

Backup a single table with its data from a database in sql server 2008

select * into mytable_backup from mytable

Makes a copy of table mytable, and every row in it, called mytable_backup.

How to change visibility of layout programmatically

You can change layout visibility just in the same way as for regular view. Use setVisibility(View.GONE) etc. All layouts are just Views, they have View as their parent.

Converting a column within pandas dataframe from int to string

Warning: Both solutions given ( astype() and apply() ) do not preserve NULL values in either the nan or the None form.

import pandas as pd
import numpy as np

df = pd.DataFrame([None,'string',np.nan,42], index=[0,1,2,3], columns=['A'])

df1 = df['A'].astype(str)
df2 =  df['A'].apply(str)

print df.isnull()
print df1.isnull()
print df2.isnull()

I believe this is fixed by the implementation of to_string()

How to cast the size_t to double or int C++

Assuming that the program cannot be redesigned to avoid the cast (ref. Keith Thomson's answer):

To cast from size_t to int you need to ensure that the size_t does not exceed the maximum value of the int. This can be done using std::numeric_limits:

int SizeTToInt(size_t data)
{
    if (data > std::numeric_limits<int>::max())
        throw std::exception("Invalid cast.");
    return std::static_cast<int>(data);
}

If you need to cast from size_t to double, and you need to ensure that you don't lose precision, I think you can use a narrow cast (ref. Stroustrup: The C++ Programming Language, Fourth Edition):

template<class Target, class Source>
Target NarrowCast(Source v)
{
    auto r = static_cast<Target>(v);
    if (static_cast<Source>(r) != v)
        throw RuntimeError("Narrow cast failed.");
    return r;
}

I tested using the narrow cast for size_t-to-double conversions by inspecting the limits of the maximum integers floating-point-representable integers (code uses googletest):

EXPECT_EQ(static_cast<size_t>(NarrowCast<double>(size_t{ IntegerRepresentableBoundary() - 2 })), size_t{ IntegerRepresentableBoundary() - 2 });
EXPECT_EQ(static_cast<size_t>(NarrowCast<double>(size_t{ IntegerRepresentableBoundary() - 1 })), size_t{ IntegerRepresentableBoundary() - 1 });
EXPECT_EQ(static_cast<size_t>(NarrowCast<double>(size_t{ IntegerRepresentableBoundary() })), size_t{ IntegerRepresentableBoundary() });
EXPECT_THROW(NarrowCast<double>(size_t{ IntegerRepresentableBoundary() + 1 }), std::exception);
EXPECT_EQ(static_cast<size_t>(NarrowCast<double>(size_t{ IntegerRepresentableBoundary() + 2 })), size_t{ IntegerRepresentableBoundary() + 2 });
EXPECT_THROW(NarrowCast<double>(size_t{ IntegerRepresentableBoundary() + 3 }), std::exception);
EXPECT_EQ(static_cast<size_t>(NarrowCast<double>(size_t{ IntegerRepresentableBoundary() + 4 })), size_t{ IntegerRepresentableBoundary() + 4 });
EXPECT_THROW(NarrowCast<double>(size_t{ IntegerRepresentableBoundary() + 5 }), std::exception);

where

constexpr size_t IntegerRepresentableBoundary()
{
    static_assert(std::numeric_limits<double>::radix == 2, "Method only valid for binary floating point format.");
    return size_t{2} << (std::numeric_limits<double>::digits - 1);
}

That is, if N is the number of digits in the mantissa, for doubles smaller than or equal to 2^N, integers can be exactly represented. For doubles between 2^N and 2^(N+1), every other integer can be exactly represented. For doubles between 2^(N+1) and 2^(N+2) every fourth integer can be exactly represented, and so on.

Setting public class variables

If you are going to follow the examples given (using getter/setter or setting it in the constructor) change it to private since those are ways to control what is set in the variable.

It doesn't make sense to keep the property public with all those things added to the class.

What is Persistence Context?

A persistence context handles a set of entities which hold data to be persisted in some persistence store (e.g. a database). In particular, the context is aware of the different states an entity can have (e.g. managed, detached) in relation to both the context and the underlying persistence store.

Although Hibernate-related (a JPA provider), I think these links are useful:

http://docs.jboss.org/hibernate/core/4.0/devguide/en-US/html/ch03.html

http://docs.jboss.org/hibernate/entitymanager/3.5/reference/en/html/architecture.html

In Java EE, a persistence context is normally accessed via an EntityManager.

http://docs.oracle.com/javaee/6/api/javax/persistence/EntityManager.html

The various states an entity can have and the transitions between these are described below:

http://docs.jboss.org/hibernate/entitymanager/3.6/reference/en/html/objectstate.html

http://gerrydevstory.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/jpa-state-transtition.png

Create stacked barplot where each stack is scaled to sum to 100%

You just need to divide each element by the sum of the values in its column.

Doing this should suffice:

data.perc <- apply(data, 2, function(x){x/sum(x)})

Note that the second parameter tells apply to apply the provided function to columns (using 1 you would apply it to rows). The anonymous function, then, gets passed each data column, one at a time.

PHP - Indirect modification of overloaded property

I have run into the same problem as w00, but I didn't had the freedom to rewrite the base functionality of the component in which this problem (E_NOTICE) occured. I've been able to fix the issue using an ArrayObject in stead of the basic type array(). This will return an object, which will defaulty be returned by reference.

What is the purpose of "&&" in a shell command?

&& strings commands together. Successive commands only execute if preceding ones succeed.

Similarly, || will allow the successive command to execute if the preceding fails.

See Bash Shell Programming.

Why is January month 0 in Java Calendar?

C based languages copy C to some degree. The tm structure (defined in time.h) has an integer field tm_mon with the (commented) range of 0-11.

C based languages start arrays at index 0. So this was convenient for outputting a string in an array of month names, with tm_mon as the index.

Add colorbar to existing axis

The colorbar has to have its own axes. However, you can create an axes that overlaps with the previous one. Then use the cax kwarg to tell fig.colorbar to use the new axes.

For example:

import numpy as np
import matplotlib.pyplot as plt

data = np.arange(100, 0, -1).reshape(10, 10)

fig, ax = plt.subplots()
cax = fig.add_axes([0.27, 0.8, 0.5, 0.05])

im = ax.imshow(data, cmap='gist_earth')
fig.colorbar(im, cax=cax, orientation='horizontal')
plt.show()

SimpleDateFormat returns 24-hour date: how to get 12-hour date?

Simply follow the code

public static String getFormatedDate(String strDate,StringsourceFormate,
                                     String destinyFormate) {
    SimpleDateFormat df;
    df = new SimpleDateFormat(sourceFormate);
    Date date = null;
    try {
        date = df.parse(strDate);

    } catch (ParseException e) {
        e.printStackTrace();
    }

    df = new SimpleDateFormat(destinyFormate);
    return df.format(date);

}

and pass the value into the function like that,

getFormatedDate("21:30:00", "HH:mm", "hh:mm aa");

or checkout this documentation SimpleDateFormat for StringsourceFormate and destinyFormate.

C++ cout hex values?

Use:

#include <iostream>

...

std::cout << std::hex << a;

There are many other options to control the exact formatting of the output number, such as leading zeros and upper/lower case.

The requested operation cannot be performed on a file with a user-mapped section open

If you're using profilers like AQ Time, these may also be locking the file. The solution in this case would be to restart the profiler or simply unload/load the assembly in question from the profiler. For AQ Time I noticed that it's releasing the file after some time, but I can't for the life of me tell what that timeout is. Seems to be random

offsetting an html anchor to adjust for fixed header

I'm facing this problem in a TYPO3 website, where all "Content Elements" are wrapped with something like:

<div id="c1234" class="contentElement">...</div>

and i changed the rendering so it renders like this:

<div id="c1234" class="anchor"></div>
<div class="contentElement">...</div>

And this CSS:

.anchor{
    position: relative;
    top: -50px;
}

The fixed topbar being 40px high, now the anchors work again and start 10px under the topbar.

Only drawback of this technique is you can no longer use :target.

Map and filter an array at the same time

I optimized the answers with the following points:

  1. Rewriting if (cond) { stmt; } as cond && stmt;
  2. Use ES6 Arrow Functions

I'll present two solutions, one using forEach, the other using reduce:

Solution 1: Using forEach

_x000D_
_x000D_
var options = [_x000D_
  { name: 'One', assigned: true }, _x000D_
  { name: 'Two', assigned: false }, _x000D_
  { name: 'Three', assigned: true }, _x000D_
];_x000D_
var reduced = []_x000D_
options.forEach(o => {_x000D_
  o.assigned && reduced.push( { name: o.name, newProperty: 'Foo' } );_x000D_
} );_x000D_
console.log(reduced);
_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_

Solution 2: Using reduce

_x000D_
_x000D_
var options = [_x000D_
  { name: 'One', assigned: true }, _x000D_
  { name: 'Two', assigned: false }, _x000D_
  { name: 'Three', assigned: true }, _x000D_
];_x000D_
var reduced = options.reduce((a, o) => {_x000D_
  o.assigned && a.push( { name: o.name, newProperty: 'Foo' } );_x000D_
  return a;_x000D_
}, [ ] );_x000D_
console.log(reduced);
_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_

I leave it up to you to decide which solution to go for.

How to use the toString method in Java?

It may optionally have uses within the context of an application but far more often it is used for debugging purposes. For example, when you hit a breakpoint in an IDE, it's far easier to read a meaningful toString() of objects than it is to inspect their members.

There is no set requirement for what a toString() method should do. By convention, most often it will tell you the name of the class and the value of pertinent data members. More often than not, toString() methods are auto-generated in IDEs.

Relying on particular output from a toString() method or parsing it within a program is a bad idea. Whatever you do, don't go down that route.

Generic Interface

Here's one suggestion:

public interface Service<T,U> {
    T executeService(U... args);
}

public class MyService implements Service<String, Integer> {
    @Override
    public String executeService(Integer... args) {
        // do stuff
        return null;
    }
}

Because of type erasure any class will only be able to implement one of these. This eliminates the redundant method at least.

It's not an unreasonable interface that you're proposing but I'm not 100% sure of what value it adds either. You might just want to use the standard Callable interface. It doesn't support arguments but that part of the interface has the least value (imho).

How to create a signed APK file using Cordova command line interface?

For Windows, I've created a build.cmd file:

(replace the keystore path and alias)

For Cordova:

@echo off
set /P spassw="Store Password: " && set /P kpassw="Key Password: " && cordova build android --release -- --keystore=../../local/my.keystore --storePassword=%spassw% --alias=tmpalias --password=%kpassw%

And for Ionic:

@echo off
set /P spassw="Store Password: " && set /P kpassw="Key Password: " && ionic build --prod && cordova build android --release -- --keystore=../../local/my.keystore --storePassword=%spassw% --alias=tmpalias --password=%kpassw%

Save it in the ptoject's directory, you can double click or open it with cmd.

Why doesn't Python have a sign function?

It just doesn't.

The best way to fix this is:

sign = lambda x: bool(x > 0) - bool(x < 0)

Get list from pandas dataframe column or row?

Example conversion:

Numpy Array -> Panda Data Frame -> List from one Panda Column

Numpy Array

data = np.array([[10,20,30], [20,30,60], [30,60,90]])

Convert numpy array into Panda data frame

dataPd = pd.DataFrame(data = data)

print(dataPd)
0   1   2
0  10  20  30
1  20  30  60
2  30  60  90

Convert one Panda column to list

pdToList = list(dataPd['2'])

What is a Data Transfer Object (DTO)?

  1. To me the best answer to the question what is a DTO is that DTO's are simple objects that should not contain any business logic or methods implementation that would require testing.
  2. Normally your model (using the MVC pattern) are intelligent models, and they can contain a lot of/some methods that do some different operations for that model specifically (not business logic, this should be at the controllers). However, when you transfer data (eg. calling a REST (GET/POST/whatever) endpoint from somewhere, or consuming a webservice using SOA, etc...) you do not want to transmit the big sized object with code that is not necessary for the endpoint, will consume data, and slow down the transfer.

Creating a node class in Java

Welcome to Java! This Nodes are like a blocks, they must be assembled to do amazing things! In this particular case, your nodes can represent a list, a linked list, You can see an example here:

public class ItemLinkedList {
    private ItemInfoNode head;
    private ItemInfoNode tail;
    private int size = 0;

    public int getSize() {
        return size;
    }

    public void addBack(ItemInfo info) {
        size++;
        if (head == null) {
            head = new ItemInfoNode(info, null, null);
            tail = head;
        } else {
            ItemInfoNode node = new ItemInfoNode(info, null, tail);
            this.tail.next =node;
            this.tail = node;
        }
    }

    public void addFront(ItemInfo info) {
        size++;
        if (head == null) {
            head = new ItemInfoNode(info, null, null);
            tail = head;
        } else {
            ItemInfoNode node = new ItemInfoNode(info, head, null);
            this.head.prev = node;
            this.head = node;
        }
    }

    public ItemInfo removeBack() {
        ItemInfo result = null;
        if (head != null) {
            size--;
            result = tail.info;
            if (tail.prev != null) {
                tail.prev.next = null;
                tail = tail.prev;
            } else {
                head = null;
                tail = null;
            }
        }
        return result;
    }

    public ItemInfo removeFront() {
        ItemInfo result = null;
        if (head != null) {
            size--;
            result = head.info;
            if (head.next != null) {
                head.next.prev = null;
                head = head.next;
            } else {
                head = null;
                tail = null;
            }
        }
        return result;
    }

    public class ItemInfoNode {

        private ItemInfoNode next;
        private ItemInfoNode prev;
        private ItemInfo info;

        public ItemInfoNode(ItemInfo info, ItemInfoNode next, ItemInfoNode prev) {
            this.info = info;
            this.next = next;
            this.prev = prev;
        }

        public void setInfo(ItemInfo info) {
            this.info = info;
        }

        public void setNext(ItemInfoNode node) {
            next = node;
        }

        public void setPrev(ItemInfoNode node) {
            prev = node;
        }

        public ItemInfo getInfo() {
            return info;
        }

        public ItemInfoNode getNext() {
            return next;
        }

        public ItemInfoNode getPrev() {
            return prev;
        }
    }
}

EDIT:

Declare ItemInfo as this:

        return price;
    }

    public void setPrice(double price) {
        this.price = price;
    }

    public String getOriginalPosition() {
        return originalPosition;
    }

    public void setOriginalPosition(String originalPosition) {
        this.originalPosition = originalPosition;
    }
}

Then, You can use your nodes inside the linked list like this:

public static void main(String[] args) {
    ItemLinkedList list = new ItemLinkedList();
    for (int i = 1; i <= 10; i++) {
        list.addBack(new ItemInfo("name-"+i, "rfd"+i, i, String.valueOf(i)));

    }
    while (list.size() > 0){
        System.out.println(list.removeFront().getName());
    }
}

Use -notlike to filter out multiple strings in PowerShell

V2 at least contains the -username parameter that takes a string[], and supports globbing.

V1 you want to expand your test like so:

Get-EventLog Security | ?{$_.UserName -notlike "user1" -and $_.UserName -notlike "*user2"}

Or you could use "-notcontains" on the inline array but this would only work if you can do exact matching on the usernames.

... | ?{@("user1","user2") -notcontains $_.username}

Set up adb on Mac OS X

If you using zsh then you need do the add the following to your .zshrc

Steps: Step 1: Open your .zshrc profile

open -e .zshrc

Step 2: Add the following to the file

export PATH=$PATH:/Users/${YourUser}/Library/Android/sdk/platform-tools
export ANDROID_HOME=/Users/${YourUser}/Library/Android/sdk

Step 3: Save the file and close. Step 4: Reload the .zshrc

source .zshrc

Step 5: Check the devices connected

adb devices

Silent installation of a MSI package

You should be able to use the /quiet or /qn options with msiexec to perform a silent install.

MSI packages export public properties, which you can set with the PROPERTY=value syntax on the end of the msiexec parameters.

For example, this command installs a package with no UI and no reboot, with a log and two properties:

msiexec /i c:\path\to\package.msi /quiet /qn /norestart /log c:\path\to\install.log PROPERTY1=value1 PROPERTY2=value2

You can read the options for msiexec by just running it with no options from Start -> Run.

String index out of range: 4

You are using the wrong iteration counter, replace inp.charAt(i) with inp.charAt(j).

Android emulator: How to monitor network traffic?

You can start the emulator with the command -avd Adfmf -http-proxy http://SYSTEM_IP:PORT. I used HTTP Analyzer, but it should work for anything else. More details can be found here: http://stick2code.blogspot.in/2014/04/intercept-http-requests-sent-from-app.html

get the selected index value of <select> tag in php

As you said..

$Gender  = isset($_POST["gender"]); ' it returns a empty string

because, you haven't mention method type either use POST or GET, by default it will use GET method. On the other side, you are trying to retrieve your value by using POST method, but in the form you haven't mentioned POST method. Which means miss-match method will result for empty.

Try this code..

<form name="signup_form"  action="./signup.php" onsubmit="return validateForm()"   method="post">
<table>
  <tr> <td> First Name    </td><td> <input type="text" name="fname" size=10/></td></tr>
  <tr> <td> Last Name     </td><td> <input type="text" name="lname" size=10/></td></tr>
  <tr> <td> Your Email    </td><td> <input type="text" name="email" size=10/></td></tr>
  <tr> <td> Re-type Email </td><td> <input type="text" name="remail"size=10/></td></tr>
  <tr> <td> Password      </td><td> <input type="password" name="paswod" size=10/> </td></tr>
  <tr> <td> Gender        </td><td> <select name="gender">
  <option value="select">                Select </option>
  <option value="male">   Male   </option>
  <option value="female"> Female </option></select></td></tr>
  <tr> <td> <input type="submit" value="Sign up" id="signup"/> </td> </tr>
 </table>
 </form>

and on signup page

$Gender  = $_POST["gender"];

i'm sure.. now, you will get the value..

AngularJS - $http.post send data as json

Consider explicitly setting the header in the $http.post (I put application/json, as I am not sure which of the two versions in your example is the working one, but you can use application/x-www-form-urlencoded if it's the other one):

$http.post("/customer/data/autocomplete", {term: searchString}, {headers: {'Content-Type': 'application/json'} })
        .then(function (response) {
            return response;
        });

Java's L number (long) specification

It seems like these would be good to have because (I assume) if you could specify the number you're typing in is a short then java wouldn't have to cast it

Since the parsing of literals happens at compile time, this is absolutely irrelevant in regard to performance. The only reason having short and byte suffixes would be nice is that it lead to more compact code.

JavaScript naming conventions

You can follow this Google JavaScript Style Guide

How to set DOM element as the first child?

2018 version - prepend

parent.prepend(newChild)  // [newChild, child1, child2]

This is modern JS! It is more readable than previous options. It is currently available in Chrome, FF, and Opera.

The equivalent for adding to the end is append, replacing the old appendChild

parent.append(newChild)  // [child1, child2, newChild]

Advanced usage

  1. You can pass multiple values (or use spread operator ...).
  2. Any string value will be added as a text element.

Examples:

parent.prepend(newChild, "foo")   // [newChild, "foo", child1, child2]

const list = ["bar", newChild]
parent.append(...list, "fizz")    // [child1, child2, "bar", newChild, "fizz"]

Related DOM methods

  1. Read More - child.before and child.after
  2. Read More - child.replaceWith

Can I Use

what is Ljava.lang.String;@

I also met this problem when I've made ListView for android app:

Map<String, Object> m;

for(int i=0; i < dates.length; i++){
    m = new HashMap<String, Object>();
    m.put(ATTR_DATES, dates[i]);
    m.put(ATTR_SQUATS, squats[i]);
    m.put(ATTR_BP, benchpress[i]);
    m.put(ATTR_ROW, row[i]);
    data.add(m);
}

The problem was that I've forgotten to use the [i] index inside the loop

What's causing my java.net.SocketException: Connection reset?

This is an old thread, but I ran into java.net.SocketException: Connection reset yesterday.

The server-side application had its throttling settings changed to allow only 1 connection at a time! Thus, sometimes calls went through and sometimes not. I solved the problem by changing the throttling settings.

How to edit nginx.conf to increase file size upload

You can increase client_max_body_size and upload_max_filesize + post_max_size all day long. Without adjusting HTTP timeout it will never work.

//You need to adjust this, and probably on PHP side also. client_body_timeout 2min // 1GB fileupload

Replace an element into a specific position of a vector

You can do that using at. You can try out the following simple example:

const size_t N = 20;
std::vector<int> vec(N);
try {
    vec.at(N - 1) = 7;
} catch (std::out_of_range ex) {
    std::cout << ex.what() << std::endl;
}
assert(vec.at(N - 1) == 7);

Notice that method at returns an allocator_type::reference, which is that case is a int&. Using at is equivalent to assigning values like vec[i]=....

There is a difference between at and insert as it can be understood with the following example:

const size_t N = 8;
std::vector<int> vec(N);
for (size_t i = 0; i<5; i++){
    vec[i] = i + 1;
}

vec.insert(vec.begin()+2, 10);

If we now print out vec we will get:

1 2 10 3 4 5 0 0 0

If, instead, we did vec.at(2) = 10, or vec[2]=10, we would get

1 2 10 4 5 0 0 0

How to add conditional attribute in Angular 2?

null removes it:

[attr.checked]="value ? '' : null"

or

[attr.checked]="value ? 'checked' : null"

Hint:

Attribute vs property

When the HTML element where you add this binding does not have a property with the name used in the binding (checked in this case) and also no Angular component or directive is applied to the same element that has an @Input() checked;, then [xxx]="..." can not be used.

See also What is the difference between properties and attributes in HTML?

What to bind to when there is no such property

Alternatives are [style.xxx]="...", [attr.xxx]="...", [class.xxx]="..." depending on what you try to accomplish.

Because <input> only has a checked attribute, but no checked property [attr.checked]="..." is the right way for this specific case.

Attributes can only handle string values

A common pitfall is also that for [attr.xxx]="..." bindings the value (...) is always stringified. Only properties and @Input()s can receive other value types like boolean, number, object, ...

Most properties and attributes of elements are connected and have the same name.

Property-attribute connection

When bound to the attribute the property also only receives the stringified value from the attribute.
When bound to the property the property receives the value bound to it (boolean, number, object, ...) and the attribute again the stringified value.

Two cases where attribute and property names do not match.

Angular was changed since then and knows about these special cases and handles them so that you can bind to <label [for]=" even though no such property exists (same for colspan)

Laravel Eloquent ORM Transactions

You can do this:

DB::transaction(function() {
      //
});

Everything inside the Closure executes within a transaction. If an exception occurs it will rollback automatically.

Setting a max character length in CSS

Pure CSS solution to truncating multi line characters

I had a similar problem and found this excellent css only solution from Hackingui.com. You can read the article for information but below is the main code.

I tested it and it works perfectly. Hopefully someone finds it useful before opting for JS or server side options

  /* max-height = line-height (1.2) * lines max number (3) */
  max-height: 3.6em;
  /* fix problem when last visible word doesn't adjoin right side */
  text-align: justify;
  /* place for '...' */
  margin-right: -1em;
  padding-right: 1em;
}

/* create the ... */
.block-with-text:before {
  /* points in the end */
  content: '...';
  /* absolute position */

  height: 1em;
  margin-top: 0.2em;

what is reverse() in Django

The existing answers are quite clear. Just in case you do not know why it is called reverse: It takes an input of a url name and gives the actual url, which is reverse to having a url first and then give it a name.

Twitter Bootstrap - how to center elements horizontally or vertically

For future visitors to this question:

If you are trying to center an image in a div but the image won't center, this could describe your problem:

jsFiddle DEMO of the problem

<div class="col-sm-4 text-center">
    <img class="img-responsive text-center" src="myPic.jpg" />
</div>

The img-responsive class adds a display:block instruction to the image tag, which stops text-align:center (text-center class) from working.

SOLUTION:

<div class="col-sm-4">
    <img class="img-responsive center-block" src="myPic.jpg" />
</div>

jsFiddle of the solution

Adding the center-block class overrides the display:block instruction put in by using the img-responsive class.

Without the img-responsive class, the image would center just by adding text-center class

Can I replace groups in Java regex?

Sorry to beat a dead horse, but it is kind-of weird that no-one pointed this out - "Yes you can, but this is the opposite of how you use capturing groups in real life".

If you use Regex the way it is meant to be used, the solution is as simple as this:

"6 example input 4".replaceAll("(?:\\d)(.*)(?:\\d)", "number$11");

Or as rightfully pointed out by shmosel below,

"6 example input 4".replaceAll("\d(.*)\d", "number$11");

...since in your regex there is no good reason to group the decimals at all.

You don't usually use capturing groups on the parts of the string you want to discard, you use them on the part of the string you want to keep.

If you really want groups that you want to replace, what you probably want instead is a templating engine (e.g. moustache, ejs, StringTemplate, ...).

As an aside for the curious, even non-capturing groups in regexes are just there for the case that the regex engine needs them to recognize and skip variable text. For example, in

(?:abc)*(capture me)(?:bcd)*

you need them if your input can look either like "abcabccapture mebcdbcd" or "abccapture mebcd" or even just "capture me".

Or to put it the other way around: if the text is always the same, and you don't capture it, there is no reason to use groups at all.

Load jQuery with Javascript and use jQuery

From the DevTools console, you can run:

How do I verify/check/test/validate my SSH passphrase?

Use "ssh-keygen -p". You can add "-f "

It will prompt you for the old password. If the password is correct, it will prompt to enter a new password. If the old password is incorrect, you will get "Failed to load key <...>".

Why are static variables considered evil?

I find static variables more convenient to use. And I presume that they are efficient too (Please correct me if I am wrong) because if I had to make 10,000 calls to a function within a class, I would be glad to make the method static and use a straightforward class.methodCall() on it instead of cluttering the memory with 10,000 instances of the class, Right?

I see what you think, but a simple Singleton pattern will do the same without having to instantiate 10 000 objects.

static methods can be used, but only for functions that are related to the object domain and do not need or use internal properties of the object.

ex:

public class WaterContainer {
    private int size;
    private int brand;
    ...etc

    public static int convertToGallon(int liters)...

    public static int convertToLiters(int gallon)...

}

How to use relative paths without including the context root name?

This is a derivative of @Ralph suggestion that I've been using. Add the c:url to the top of your JSP.

<%@ taglib prefix="c" uri="http://java.sun.com/jsp/jstl/core" %>

Then just reference the root variable in your page:

Does IE9 support console.log, and is it a real function?

console.log is only defined when the console is open. If you want to check for it in your code make sure you check for for it within the window property

this throws an exception in IE9 and will not work correctly. Do not do this

if (console)

How do I add a bullet symbol in TextView?

Another best way to add bullet in any text view is stated below two steps:

First, create a drawable

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<shape
    xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
    android:shape="oval">

    <!--set color of the bullet-->
   <solid
       android:color="#666666"/> //set color of bullet

    <!--set size of the bullet-->
   <size
       android:width="120dp"
        android:height="120dp"/>
</shape>

Then add this drawable in textview and set its pedding by using below properties

android:drawableStart="@drawable/bullet"
android:drawablePadding="10dp"

How to pass json POST data to Web API method as an object?

Make sure that your WebAPI service is expecting a strongly typed object with a structure that matches the JSON that you are passing. And make sure that you stringify the JSON that you are POSTing.

Here is my JavaScript (using AngluarJS):

$scope.updateUserActivity = function (_objuserActivity) {
        $http
        ({
            method: 'post',
            url: 'your url here',
            headers: { 'Content-Type': 'application/json'},
            data: JSON.stringify(_objuserActivity)
        })
        .then(function (response)
        {
            alert("success");
        })
        .catch(function (response)
        {
            alert("failure");
        })
        .finally(function ()
        {
        });

And here is my WebAPI Controller:

[HttpPost]
[AcceptVerbs("POST")]
public string POSTMe([FromBody]Models.UserActivity _activity)
{
    return "hello";
}

SMTP server response: 530 5.7.0 Must issue a STARTTLS command first

In my case, Swift Mailer couldn't help either. I found a solution here: http://forum.powweb.com/showthread.php?t=73406 - so after EHLO command one needs to send STARTTLS command, enabling cryptography with stream_socket_enable_crypto( $connection, true, STREAM_CRYPTO_METHOD_TLS_CLIENT ); and again EHLO command. Only this allowed me to send emails with my "stubborn" SMTP server.

Maven: add a dependency to a jar by relative path

I want the jar to be in a 3rdparty lib in source control, and link to it by relative path from the pom.xml file.

If you really want this (understand, if you can't use a corporate repository), then my advice would be to use a "file repository" local to the project and to not use a system scoped dependency. The system scoped should be avoided, such dependencies don't work well in many situation (e.g. in assembly), they cause more troubles than benefits.

So, instead, declare a repository local to the project:

<repositories>
  <repository>
    <id>my-local-repo</id>
    <url>file://${project.basedir}/my-repo</url>
  </repository>
</repositories>

Install your third party lib in there using install:install-file with the localRepositoryPath parameter:

mvn install:install-file -Dfile=<path-to-file> -DgroupId=<myGroup> \
                         -DartifactId=<myArtifactId> -Dversion=<myVersion> \
                         -Dpackaging=<myPackaging> -DlocalRepositoryPath=<path>

Update: It appears that install:install-file ignores the localRepositoryPath when using the version 2.2 of the plugin. However, it works with version 2.3 and later of the plugin. So use the fully qualified name of the plugin to specify the version:

mvn org.apache.maven.plugins:maven-install-plugin:2.3.1:install-file \
                         -Dfile=<path-to-file> -DgroupId=<myGroup> \
                         -DartifactId=<myArtifactId> -Dversion=<myVersion> \
                         -Dpackaging=<myPackaging> -DlocalRepositoryPath=<path>

maven-install-plugin documentation

Finally, declare it like any other dependency (but without the system scope):

<dependency>
  <groupId>your.group.id</groupId>
  <artifactId>3rdparty</artifactId>
  <version>X.Y.Z</version>
</dependency>

This is IMHO a better solution than using a system scope as your dependency will be treated like a good citizen (e.g. it will be included in an assembly and so on).

Now, I have to mention that the "right way" to deal with this situation in a corporate environment (maybe not the case here) would be to use a corporate repository.

How to select an element with 2 classes

You can chain class selectors without a space between them:

.a.b {
     color: #666;
}

Note that, if it matters to you, IE6 treats .a.b as .b, so in that browser both div.a.b and div.b will have gray text. See this answer for a comparison between proper browsers and IE6.

docker mounting volumes on host

The VOLUME command will mount a directory inside your container and store any files created or edited inside that directory on your hosts disk outside the container file structure, bypassing the union file system.

The idea is that your volumes can be shared between your docker containers and they will stay around as long as there's a container (running or stopped) that references them.

You can have other containers mount existing volumes (effectively sharing them between containers) by using the --volumes-from command when you run a container.

The fundamental difference between VOLUME and -v is this: -v will mount existing files from your operating system inside your docker container and VOLUME will create a new, empty volume on your host and mount it inside your container.

Example:

  1. You have a Dockerfile that defines a VOLUME /var/lib/mysql.
  2. You build the docker image and tag it some-volume
  3. You run the container

And then,

  1. You have another docker image that you want to use this volume
  2. You run the docker container with the following: docker run --volumes-from some-volume docker-image-name:tag
  3. Now you have a docker container running that will have the volume from some-volume mounted in /var/lib/mysql

Note: Using --volumes-from will mount the volume over whatever exists in the location of the volume. I.e., if you had stuff in /var/lib/mysql, it will be replaced with the contents of the volume.

How to terminate a thread when main program ends?

Try with enabling the sub-thread as daemon-thread.

For Instance:

Recommended:

from threading import Thread

t = Thread(target=<your-method>)
t.daemon = True # This thread dies when main thread (only non-daemon thread) exits.
t.start()

Inline:

t = Thread(target=<your-method>, daemon=True).start()

Old API:

t.setDaemon(True)
t.start()

When your main thread terminates ("i.e. when I press Ctrl+C"), other threads will also be killed by the instructions above.

Do fragments really need an empty constructor?

As noted by CommonsWare in this question https://stackoverflow.com/a/16064418/1319061, this error can also occur if you are creating an anonymous subclass of a Fragment, since anonymous classes cannot have constructors.

MVC Razor Hidden input and passing values

First of all ASP.NET MVC does not work the same way WebForms does. You don't have the whole runat="server" thing. MVC does not offer the abstraction layer that WebForms offered. Probabaly you should try to understand what controllers and actions are and then you should look at model binding. Any beginner level tutorial about MVC shows how you can pass data between the client and the server.

Writing an input integer into a cell

I've done this kind of thing with a form that contains a TextBox.

So if you wanted to put this in say cell H1, then use:

Multiple models in a view

  1. Create one new class in your model and properties of LoginViewModel and RegisterViewModel:

    public class UserDefinedModel()
    {
        property a1 as LoginViewModel
        property a2 as RegisterViewModel
    }

  2. Then use UserDefinedModel in your view.

VB.net Need Text Box to Only Accept Numbers

You can do this with the use of Ascii integers. Put this code in the Textbox's Keypress event. e.KeyChar represents the key that's pressed. And the the built-in function Asc() converts it into its Ascii integer.

Private Sub TextBox1_KeyPress(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.KeyPressEventArgs) Handles TextBox1.KeyPress

    '97 - 122 = Ascii codes for simple letters
    '65 - 90  = Ascii codes for capital letters
    '48 - 57  = Ascii codes for numbers

    If Asc(e.KeyChar) <> 8 Then

How to apply bold text style for an entire row using Apache POI?

This should work fine.

    Workbook wb = new XSSFWorkbook("myWorkbook.xlsx");
    Row row=sheet.getRow(0);
    CellStyle style=null;

    XSSFFont defaultFont= wb.createFont();
    defaultFont.setFontHeightInPoints((short)10);
    defaultFont.setFontName("Arial");
    defaultFont.setColor(IndexedColors.BLACK.getIndex());
    defaultFont.setBold(false);
    defaultFont.setItalic(false);

    XSSFFont font= wb.createFont();
    font.setFontHeightInPoints((short)10);
    font.setFontName("Arial");
    font.setColor(IndexedColors.WHITE.getIndex());
    font.setBold(true);
    font.setItalic(false);

    style=row.getRowStyle();
    style.setFillBackgroundColor(IndexedColors.DARK_BLUE.getIndex());
    style.setFillPattern(CellStyle.SOLID_FOREGROUND);
    style.setAlignment(CellStyle.ALIGN_CENTER);
    style.setFont(font);

If you do not create defaultFont all your workbook will be using the other one as default.

how can I set visible back to true in jquery

Depends, if i remember correctly i think asp.net won't render the html object out when you set visible to false.

If you want to be able to control it from the client side, then you better just include the css value to set it invisible rather than using visible =false.

What's a standard way to do a no-op in python?

If you need a function that behaves as a nop, try

nop = lambda *a, **k: None
nop()

Sometimes I do stuff like this when I'm making dependencies optional:

try:
    import foo
    bar=foo.bar
    baz=foo.baz
except:
    bar=nop
    baz=nop

# Doesn't break when foo is missing:
bar()
baz()

Find largest and smallest number in an array

You can initialize after filling the array or you can write:

 small =~ unsigned(0)/2; // Using the bit-wise complement to flip 0's bits and dividing by 2 because unsigned can hold twice the +ve value an

integer can hold.

 big =- 1*(small) - 1;

instead of:

big = small = values[0]

because when you write this line before filling the array, big and small values will equal to a random leftover value (as integer is a POD) from the memory and if those numbers are either bigger or smaller than any other value in you array, you will get them as an output.

The mysqli extension is missing. Please check your PHP configuration

Its an issue of extension directory. You need to change php extension directory manually to work this.

If you are using AMPP Server, do the following

Goto settings -> PHP -> Configuration

in php7.3.ini Find, (Versions might change)

extension_dir = "" , (Already having some path)

and change value to

extension_dir = "C:\Program Files\Ampps\php-7.3\ext"

If you are using XAMP

Goto XAMP Settings, Apache -> PHP.ini

Find, extension_dir = in php.ini, and set path of the php extension folder of your local machine. See the below example.

extension_dir = "C:\php\ext" (Check your path properly)

Create an ArrayList of unique values

If you want to make a list with unique values from an existing list you can use

List myUniqueList = myList.stream().distinct().collect(Collectors.toList());

data.frame Group By column

Using dplyr:

require(dplyr)
df <- data.frame(A = c(1, 1, 2, 3, 3), B = c(2, 3, 3, 5, 6))
df %>% group_by(A) %>% summarise(B = sum(B))

## Source: local data frame [3 x 2]
##
##   A  B
## 1 1  5
## 2 2  3
## 3 3 11

With sqldf:

library(sqldf)
sqldf('SELECT A, SUM(B) AS B FROM df GROUP BY A')

Recursive sub folder search and return files in a list python

You can use the "recursive" setting within glob module to search through subdirectories

For example:

import glob
glob.glob('//Mypath/folder/**/*',recursive = True)

The second line would return all files within subdirectories for that folder location (Note, you need the '**/*' string at the end of your folder string to do this.)

If you specifically wanted to find text files deep within your subdirectories, you can use

glob.glob('//Mypath/folder/**/*.txt',recursive = True)

TLS 1.2 not working in cURL

Replace following

curl_setopt ($setuploginurl, CURLOPT_SSLVERSION, 'CURL_SSLVERSION_TLSv1_2');

With

curl_setopt ($ch, CURLOPT_SSLVERSION, 6);

Should work flawlessly.

difference between new String[]{} and new String[] in java

1.THE USE OF {}:

It initialize the array with the values { }

2.The difference between String array=new String[]; and String array=new String[]{};

String array=new String[]; and String array=new String[]{}; both are invalid statement in java.

It will gives you an error that you are trying to assign String array to String datatype. More specifically error is like this Type mismatch: cannot convert from String[] to String

3.String array=new String[10]{}; got error why?

Wrong because you are defining an array of length 10 ([10]), then defining an array of length String[10]{} 0

Can I pass an argument to a VBScript (vbs file launched with cscript)?

You can use WScript.Arguments to access the arguments passed to your script.

Calling the script:

cscript.exe test.vbs "C:\temp\"

Inside your script:

Set File = FSO.OpenTextFile(WScript.Arguments(0) &"\test.txt", 2, True)

Don't forget to check if there actually has been an argument passed to your script. You can do so by checking the Count property:

if WScript.Arguments.Count = 0 then
    WScript.Echo "Missing parameters"
end if

If your script is over after you close the file then there is no need to set the variables to Nothing. The resources will be cleaned up automatically when the cscript.exe process terminates. Setting a variable to Nothing usually is only necessary if you explicitly want to free resources during the execution of your script. In that case, you would set variables which contain a reference to a COM object to Nothing, which would release the COM object before your script terminates. This is just a short answer to your bonus question, you will find more information in these related questions:

Is there a need to set Objects to Nothing inside VBA Functions

When must I set a variable to “Nothing” in VB6?

Normalize data in pandas

You can use apply for this, and it's a bit neater:

import numpy as np
import pandas as pd

np.random.seed(1)

df = pd.DataFrame(np.random.randn(4,4)* 4 + 3)

          0         1         2         3
0  9.497381  0.552974  0.887313 -1.291874
1  6.461631 -6.206155  9.979247 -0.044828
2  4.276156  2.002518  8.848432 -5.240563
3  1.710331  1.463783  7.535078 -1.399565

df.apply(lambda x: (x - np.mean(x)) / (np.max(x) - np.min(x)))

          0         1         2         3
0  0.515087  0.133967 -0.651699  0.135175
1  0.125241 -0.689446  0.348301  0.375188
2 -0.155414  0.310554  0.223925 -0.624812
3 -0.484913  0.244924  0.079473  0.114448

Also, it works nicely with groupby, if you select the relevant columns:

df['grp'] = ['A', 'A', 'B', 'B']

          0         1         2         3 grp
0  9.497381  0.552974  0.887313 -1.291874   A
1  6.461631 -6.206155  9.979247 -0.044828   A
2  4.276156  2.002518  8.848432 -5.240563   B
3  1.710331  1.463783  7.535078 -1.399565   B

df.groupby(['grp'])[[0,1,2,3]].apply(lambda x: (x - np.mean(x)) / (np.max(x) - np.min(x)))

     0    1    2    3
0  0.5  0.5 -0.5 -0.5
1 -0.5 -0.5  0.5  0.5
2  0.5  0.5  0.5 -0.5

Static variables in C++

A static variable declared in a header file outside of the class would be file-scoped in every .c file which includes the header. That means separate copy of a variable with same name is accessible in each of the .c files where you include the header file.

A static class variable on the other hand is class-scoped and the same static variable is available to every compilation unit that includes the header containing the class with static variable.

Regular expression \p{L} and \p{N}

These are Unicode property shortcuts (\p{L} for Unicode letters, \p{N} for Unicode digits). They are supported by .NET, Perl, Java, PCRE, XML, XPath, JGSoft, Ruby (1.9 and higher) and PHP (since 5.1.0)

At any rate, that's a very strange regex. You should not be using alternation when a character class would suffice:

What's the difference between MyISAM and InnoDB?

MYISAM:

  1. MYISAM supports Table-level Locking
  2. MyISAM designed for need of speed
  3. MyISAM does not support foreign keys hence we call MySQL with MYISAM is DBMS
  4. MyISAM stores its tables, data and indexes in diskspace using separate three different files. (tablename.FRM, tablename.MYD, tablename.MYI)
  5. MYISAM not supports transaction. You cannot commit and rollback with MYISAM. Once you issue a command it’s done.
  6. MYISAM supports fulltext search
  7. You can use MyISAM, if the table is more static with lots of select and less update and delete.

INNODB:

  1. InnoDB supports Row-level Locking
  2. InnoDB designed for maximum performance when processing high volume of data
  3. InnoDB support foreign keys hence we call MySQL with InnoDB is RDBMS
  4. InnoDB stores its tables and indexes in a tablespace
  5. InnoDB supports transaction. You can commit and rollback with InnoDB

What is the difference between a symbolic link and a hard link?

I just found an easy way to understand hard links in a common scenario, software install.

One day I downloaded a software to folder Downloads for install. After I did sudo make install, some executables were cped to local bin folder. Here, cp creates hard link. I was happy with the software but soon realized that Downloads isn't a good place in the long run. So I mved the software folder to source directory. Well, I can still run the software as before without worrying about any target link things, like in Windows. This means hard link finds inode directly and other files around.

Get bitcoin historical data

I have written a java example for this case:

Use json.org library to retrieve JSONObjects and JSONArrays. The example below uses blockchain.info's data which can be obtained as JSONObject.

    public class main
    {
        public static void main(String[] args) throws MalformedURLException, IOException
        {
            JSONObject data = getJSONfromURL("https://blockchain.info/charts/market-price?format=json");
            JSONArray data_array = data.getJSONArray("values");

            for (int i = 0; i < data_array.length(); i++)
            {
                JSONObject price_point = data_array.getJSONObject(i);

                //  Unix time
                int x = price_point.getInt("x");

                // Bitcoin price at that time
                double y = price_point.getDouble("y");

                //  Do something with x and y.
            }

        }

        public static JSONObject getJSONfromURL(String URL)
        {
            try
            {
                URLConnection uc;
                URL url = new URL(URL);
                uc = url.openConnection();
                uc.setConnectTimeout(10000);
                uc.addRequestProperty("User-Agent", "Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0)");
                uc.connect();

                BufferedReader rd = new BufferedReader(
                        new InputStreamReader(uc.getInputStream(),
                        Charset.forName("UTF-8")));

                StringBuilder sb = new StringBuilder();
                int cp;
                while ((cp = rd.read()) != -1)
                {
                    sb.append((char)cp);
                }

                String jsonText = (sb.toString());

                return new JSONObject(jsonText.toString());
            } catch (IOException ex)
            {
                return null;
            }
        }
    }

SQL split values to multiple rows

My variant: stored procedure that takes table name, field names and delimiter as arguments. Inspired by post http://www.marcogoncalves.com/2011/03/mysql-split-column-string-into-rows/

delimiter $$

DROP PROCEDURE IF EXISTS split_value_into_multiple_rows $$
CREATE PROCEDURE split_value_into_multiple_rows(tablename VARCHAR(20),
    id_column VARCHAR(20), value_column VARCHAR(20), delim CHAR(1))
  BEGIN
    DECLARE id INT DEFAULT 0;
    DECLARE value VARCHAR(255);
    DECLARE occurrences INT DEFAULT 0;
    DECLARE i INT DEFAULT 0;
    DECLARE splitted_value VARCHAR(255);
    DECLARE done INT DEFAULT 0;
    DECLARE cur CURSOR FOR SELECT tmp_table1.id, tmp_table1.value FROM
        tmp_table1 WHERE tmp_table1.value IS NOT NULL AND tmp_table1.value != '';
    DECLARE CONTINUE HANDLER FOR NOT FOUND SET done = 1;

    SET @expr = CONCAT('CREATE TEMPORARY TABLE tmp_table1 (id INT NOT NULL, value VARCHAR(255)) ENGINE=Memory SELECT ',
        id_column,' id, ', value_column,' value FROM ',tablename);
    PREPARE stmt FROM @expr;
    EXECUTE stmt;
    DEALLOCATE PREPARE stmt;

    DROP TEMPORARY TABLE IF EXISTS tmp_table2;
    CREATE TEMPORARY TABLE tmp_table2 (id INT NOT NULL, value VARCHAR(255) NOT NULL) ENGINE=Memory;

    OPEN cur;
      read_loop: LOOP
        FETCH cur INTO id, value;
        IF done THEN
          LEAVE read_loop;
        END IF;

        SET occurrences = (SELECT CHAR_LENGTH(value) -
                           CHAR_LENGTH(REPLACE(value, delim, '')) + 1);
        SET i=1;
        WHILE i <= occurrences DO
          SET splitted_value = (SELECT TRIM(SUBSTRING_INDEX(
              SUBSTRING_INDEX(value, delim, i), delim, -1)));
          INSERT INTO tmp_table2 VALUES (id, splitted_value);
          SET i = i + 1;

      END LOOP;

      SELECT * FROM tmp_table2;
    CLOSE cur;
    DROP TEMPORARY TABLE tmp_table1;
  END; $$

Usage example (normalization):

CALL split_value_into_multiple_rows('my_contacts', 'contact_id', 'interests', ',');

CREATE TABLE interests (
  interest_id INT NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT PRIMARY KEY,
  interest VARCHAR(30) NOT NULL
) SELECT DISTINCT value interest FROM tmp_table2;

  CONSTRAINT fk_contact_interest_interests_interest_id FOREIGN KEY (interest_id) REFERENCES interests (interest_id)
) SELECT my_contacts.contact_id, interests.interest_id
    FROM my_contacts, tmp_table2, interests
    WHERE my_contacts.contact_id = tmp_table2.id AND interests.interest = tmp_table2.value;

What is the easiest way to parse an INI File in C++?

If you need a cross-platform solution, try Boost's Program Options library.

JsonParseException : Illegal unquoted character ((CTRL-CHAR, code 10)

This can happen if you have a newline (or other control character) in a JSON string literal.

{"foo": "bar
baz"}

If you are the one producing the data, replace actual newlines with escaped ones "\\n" when creating your string literals.

{"foo": "bar\nbaz"}

How can I see if a Perl hash already has a certain key?

I guess that this code should answer your question:

use strict;
use warnings;

my @keys = qw/one two three two/;
my %hash;
for my $key (@keys)
{
    $hash{$key}++;
}

for my $key (keys %hash)
{
   print "$key: ", $hash{$key}, "\n";
}

Output:

three: 1
one: 1
two: 2

The iteration can be simplified to:

$hash{$_}++ for (@keys);

(See $_ in perlvar.) And you can even write something like this:

$hash{$_}++ or print "Found new value: $_.\n" for (@keys);

Which reports each key the first time it’s found.

The name 'model' does not exist in current context in MVC3

I ran into this same issue when I created a new area to organize my pages. My structure looked like:

WebProject

- [] Areas
    - [] NewArea
        - [] Controllers
        - [] Views
- [] Controllers
- [] Views
    - Web.config
- Web.config

The views created in the Views folder under the WebProject worked fine, but the views created under the NewArea threw the following error:

The name 'model' does not exist in the current context.

To fix this I copied the web.config in the Views folder under the WebProject to the Views folder in the NewArea. See below.

WebProject

- [] Areas
    - [] NewArea
        - [] Controllers
        - [] Views
            - **Web.config**
- [] Controllers
- [] Views
    - Web.config
- Web.config

I ran into this because I manually created this new area using Add -> New Folder to add the folders. I should have right-clicked the project and selected Add -> Area. Then Visual Studio would have taken care of setting the area up correctly.

Select2 open dropdown on focus

Something easy that would work on all select2 instances on the page.

$(document).on('focus', '.select2', function() {
    $(this).siblings('select').select2('open');
});

UPDATE: The above code doesn't seem to work properly on IE11/Select2 4.0.3

PS: also added filter to select only single select fields. Select with multiple attribute doesn't need it and would probably break if applied.

var select2_open;
// open select2 dropdown on focus
$(document).on('focus', '.select2-selection--single', function(e) {
    select2_open = $(this).parent().parent().siblings('select');
    select2_open.select2('open');
});

// fix for ie11
if (/rv:11.0/i.test(navigator.userAgent)) {
    $(document).on('blur', '.select2-search__field', function (e) {
        select2_open.select2('close');
    });
}

Characters allowed in GET parameter

All of the rules concerning the encoding of URIs (which contains URNs and URLs) are specified in the RFC1738 and the RFC3986, here's a TL;DR of these long and boring documents:

Percent-encoding, also known as URL encoding, is a mechanism for encoding information in a URI under certain circumstances. The characters allowed in a URI are either reserved or unreserved. Reserved characters are those characters that sometimes have special meaning, but they are not the only characters that needs encoding.

There are 66 unreserved characters that doesn't need any encoding: abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyzABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ0123456789-_.~

There are 18 reserved characters which needs to be encoded: !*'();:@&=+$,/?#[], and all the other characters must be encoded.

To percent-encode a character, simply concatenate "%" and its ASCII value in hexadecimal. The php functions "urlencode" and "rawurlencode" do this job for you.

addID in jQuery?

ID is an attribute, you can set it with the attr function:

$(element).attr('id', 'newID');

I'm not sure what you mean about adding IDs since an element can only have one identifier and this identifier must be unique.

Sending HTML Code Through JSON

All string data must be UTF-8 encoded.

$out = array(
   'render' => utf8_encode($renderOutput),
   'text' => utf8_encode($textOutput)
);

$out = json_encode($out);
die($out);

How do I increment a DOS variable in a FOR /F loop?

I would like to add that in case in you create local variables within the loop, they need to be expanded using the bang(!) notation as well. Extending the example at https://stackoverflow.com/a/2919699 above, if we want to create counter-based output filenames

set TEXT_T="myfile.txt"

set /a c=1

setlocal ENABLEDELAYEDEXPANSION

FOR /F "tokens=1 usebackq" %%i in (%TEXT_T%) do (
    set /a c=c+1
    set OUTPUT_FILE_NAME=output_!c!.txt
    echo Output file is !OUTPUT_FILE_NAME!
    echo %%i, !c!
)

endlocal

How should I remove all the leading spaces from a string? - swift

Yet another answer, sometimes the input string can contain more than one space between words. If you need to standardize to have only 1 space between words, try this (Swift 4/5)

let inputString = "  a very     strange   text !    "
let validInput = inputString.components(separatedBy:.whitespacesAndNewlines).filter { $0.count > 0 }.joined(separator: " ")

print(validInput) // "a very strange text !"

Negative matching using grep (match lines that do not contain foo)

You can also use awk for these purposes, since it allows you to perform more complex checks in a clearer way:

Lines not containing foo:

awk '!/foo/'

Lines containing neither foo nor bar:

awk '!/foo/ && !/bar/'

Lines containing neither foo nor bar which contain either foo2 or bar2:

awk '!/foo/ && !/bar/ && (/foo2/ || /bar2/)'

And so on.

How to set some xlim and ylim in Seaborn lmplot facetgrid

You need to get hold of the axes themselves. Probably the cleanest way is to change your last row:

lm = sns.lmplot('X','Y',df,col='Z',sharex=False,sharey=False)

Then you can get hold of the axes objects (an array of axes):

axes = lm.axes

After that you can tweak the axes properties

axes[0,0].set_ylim(0,)
axes[0,1].set_ylim(0,)

creates:

Append to string variable

Ronal, to answer your question in the comment in my answer above:

function wasClicked(str)
{
  return str+' def';
}

Checking if a list of objects contains a property with a specific value

You can use the Enumerable.Where extension method:

var matches = myList.Where(p => p.Name == nameToExtract);

Returns an IEnumerable<SampleClass>. Assuming you want a filtered List, simply call .ToList() on the above.

By the way, if I were writing the code above today, I'd do the equality check differently, given the complexities of Unicode string handling:

var matches = myList.Where(p => String.Equals(p.Name, nameToExtract, StringComparison.CurrentCulture));

What's "tools:context" in Android layout files?

According to the Android Tools Project Site:

tools:context

This attribute is typically set on the root element in a layout XML file, and records which activity the layout is associated with (at designtime, since obviously a layout can be used by more than one layout). This will for example be used by the layout editor to guess a default theme, since themes are defined in the Manifest and are associated with activities, not layouts. You can use the same dot prefix as in manifests to just specify the activity class without the full application package name as a prefix.

<android.support.v7.widget.GridLayout
    xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
    xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools"
    tools:context=".MainActivity">

How to do a SOAP Web Service call from Java class?

I understand your problem boils down to how to call a SOAP (JAX-WS) web service from Java and get its returning object. In that case, you have two possible approaches:

  1. Generate the Java classes through wsimport and use them; or
  2. Create a SOAP client that:
    1. Serializes the service's parameters to XML;
    2. Calls the web method through HTTP manipulation; and
    3. Parse the returning XML response back into an object.

About the first approach (using wsimport):

I see you already have the services' (entities or other) business classes, and it's a fact that the wsimport generates a whole new set of classes (that are somehow duplicates of the classes you already have).

I'm afraid, though, in this scenario, you can only either:

  • Adapt (edit) the wsimport generated code to make it use your business classes (this is difficult and somehow not worth it - bear in mind everytime the WSDL changes, you'll have to regenerate and readapt the code); or
  • Give up and use the wsimport generated classes. (In this solution, you business code could "use" the generated classes as a service from another architectural layer.)

About the second approach (create your custom SOAP client):

In order to implement the second approach, you'll have to:

  1. Make the call:
    • Use the SAAJ (SOAP with Attachments API for Java) framework (see below, it's shipped with Java SE 1.6 or above) to make the calls; or
    • You can also do it through java.net.HttpUrlconnection (and some java.io handling).
  2. Turn the objects into and back from XML:
    • Use an OXM (Object to XML Mapping) framework such as JAXB to serialize/deserialize the XML from/into objects
    • Or, if you must, manually create/parse the XML (this can be the best solution if the received object is only a little bit differente from the sent one).

Creating a SOAP client using classic java.net.HttpUrlConnection is not that hard (but not that simple either), and you can find in this link a very good starting code.

I recommend you use the SAAJ framework:

SOAP with Attachments API for Java (SAAJ) is mainly used for dealing directly with SOAP Request/Response messages which happens behind the scenes in any Web Service API. It allows the developers to directly send and receive soap messages instead of using JAX-WS.

See below a working example (run it!) of a SOAP web service call using SAAJ. It calls this web service.

import javax.xml.soap.*;

public class SOAPClientSAAJ {

    // SAAJ - SOAP Client Testing
    public static void main(String args[]) {
        /*
            The example below requests from the Web Service at:
             https://www.w3schools.com/xml/tempconvert.asmx?op=CelsiusToFahrenheit

            To call other WS, change the parameters below, which are:
             - the SOAP Endpoint URL (that is, where the service is responding from)
             - the SOAP Action

            Also change the contents of the method createSoapEnvelope() in this class. It constructs
             the inner part of the SOAP envelope that is actually sent.
         */
        String soapEndpointUrl = "https://www.w3schools.com/xml/tempconvert.asmx";
        String soapAction = "https://www.w3schools.com/xml/CelsiusToFahrenheit";

        callSoapWebService(soapEndpointUrl, soapAction);
    }

    private static void createSoapEnvelope(SOAPMessage soapMessage) throws SOAPException {
        SOAPPart soapPart = soapMessage.getSOAPPart();

        String myNamespace = "myNamespace";
        String myNamespaceURI = "https://www.w3schools.com/xml/";

        // SOAP Envelope
        SOAPEnvelope envelope = soapPart.getEnvelope();
        envelope.addNamespaceDeclaration(myNamespace, myNamespaceURI);

            /*
            Constructed SOAP Request Message:
            <SOAP-ENV:Envelope xmlns:SOAP-ENV="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/" xmlns:myNamespace="https://www.w3schools.com/xml/">
                <SOAP-ENV:Header/>
                <SOAP-ENV:Body>
                    <myNamespace:CelsiusToFahrenheit>
                        <myNamespace:Celsius>100</myNamespace:Celsius>
                    </myNamespace:CelsiusToFahrenheit>
                </SOAP-ENV:Body>
            </SOAP-ENV:Envelope>
            */

        // SOAP Body
        SOAPBody soapBody = envelope.getBody();
        SOAPElement soapBodyElem = soapBody.addChildElement("CelsiusToFahrenheit", myNamespace);
        SOAPElement soapBodyElem1 = soapBodyElem.addChildElement("Celsius", myNamespace);
        soapBodyElem1.addTextNode("100");
    }

    private static void callSoapWebService(String soapEndpointUrl, String soapAction) {
        try {
            // Create SOAP Connection
            SOAPConnectionFactory soapConnectionFactory = SOAPConnectionFactory.newInstance();
            SOAPConnection soapConnection = soapConnectionFactory.createConnection();

            // Send SOAP Message to SOAP Server
            SOAPMessage soapResponse = soapConnection.call(createSOAPRequest(soapAction), soapEndpointUrl);

            // Print the SOAP Response
            System.out.println("Response SOAP Message:");
            soapResponse.writeTo(System.out);
            System.out.println();

            soapConnection.close();
        } catch (Exception e) {
            System.err.println("\nError occurred while sending SOAP Request to Server!\nMake sure you have the correct endpoint URL and SOAPAction!\n");
            e.printStackTrace();
        }
    }

    private static SOAPMessage createSOAPRequest(String soapAction) throws Exception {
        MessageFactory messageFactory = MessageFactory.newInstance();
        SOAPMessage soapMessage = messageFactory.createMessage();

        createSoapEnvelope(soapMessage);

        MimeHeaders headers = soapMessage.getMimeHeaders();
        headers.addHeader("SOAPAction", soapAction);

        soapMessage.saveChanges();

        /* Print the request message, just for debugging purposes */
        System.out.println("Request SOAP Message:");
        soapMessage.writeTo(System.out);
        System.out.println("\n");

        return soapMessage;
    }

}

About using JAXB for serializing/deserializing, it is very easy to find information about it. You can start here: http://www.mkyong.com/java/jaxb-hello-world-example/.

How do I copy folder with files to another folder in Unix/Linux?

The option you're looking for is -R.

cp -R path_to_source path_to_destination/
  • If destination doesn't exist, it will be created.
  • -R means copy directories recursively. You can also use -r since it's case-insensitive.
  • Note the nuances with adding the trailing / as per @muni764's comment.

How to insert a row between two rows in an existing excel with HSSF (Apache POI)

Referencing Qwerty's answer, you can avoid to inflate XL size by re-using cellStyle. And when the type is CELL_TYPE_BLANK, getStringCellValue returns "" instead of null.
