Curl Command to Repeat URL Request

You could use URL sequence substitution with a dummy query string (if you want to use CURL and save a few keystrokes):

curl http://www.myurl.com/?[1-20]

If you have other query strings in your URL, assign the sequence to a throwaway variable:

curl http://www.myurl.com/?myVar=111&fakeVar=[1-20]

Check out the URL section on the man page: https://curl.haxx.se/docs/manpage.html

How do I change the root directory of an Apache server?

If someone has installed LAMP in the /opt folder, then the /etc/apache2 folder is not what you are looking for.

Look for httpd.conf file in folder /opt/lampp/etc.

Change the line in this folder and save it from the terminal.

How to make System.out.println() shorter

Using System.out.println() is bad practice (better use logging framework) -> you should not have many occurences in your code base. Using another method to simply shorten it does not seem a good option.

c# dictionary How to add multiple values for single key?

I was trying to add List to existing key in dictionary and reached the following solution:

Dictionary<string,List<string>> NewParent = new Dictionary<string,List<string>>();
child = new List<string> ();
child.Add('SomeData');
NewParent["item1"].AddRange(child);

It will not show any exception and won't replace previous values.

How to convert UTF-8 byte[] to string?

Converting a byte[] to a string seems simple but any kind of encoding is likely to mess up the output string. This little function just works without any unexpected results:

private string ToString(byte[] bytes)
{
    string response = string.Empty;

    foreach (byte b in bytes)
        response += (Char)b;

    return response;
}

Conditional Formatting using Excel VBA code

I think I just discovered a way to apply overlapping conditions in the expected way using VBA. After hours of trying out different approaches I found that what worked was changing the "Applies to" range for the conditional format rule, after every single one was created!

This is my working example:

Sub ResetFormatting()
' ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
' Written by..: Julius Getz Mørk
' Purpose.....: If conditional formatting ranges are broken it might cause a huge increase

How do I write a custom init for a UIView subclass in Swift?

Here is how I do it on iOS 9 in Swift -

import UIKit

class CustomView : UIView {

    init() {
        super.init(frame: UIScreen.mainScreen().bounds);

        //for debug validation
        self.backgroundColor = UIColor.blueColor();
        print("My Custom Init");

        return;
    }

    required init?(coder aDecoder: NSCoder) { fatalError("init(coder:) has not been implemented"); }
}

Here is a full project with example:

Using getopts to process long and short command line options

hm.

not really satisfied with the pure bash options. why not use perl to get what you want. Directly parse the $* array, and auto-name your options.

simple helper script:

#!/usr/bin/perl
use Getopt::Long;

my $optstring = shift;

my @opts = split(m#,#, $optstring);

my %opt;
GetOptions(\%opt, @opts);

print "set -- " . join(' ', map("'$_'", @ARGV)) . ";";
my $xx;

my $key;
foreach $key (keys(%opt))
{
    print "export $key='$opt{$key}'; ";
}

then you can use in your script as a one liner, for example:

#!/bin/bash

eval `getopts.pl reuse:s,long_opt:s,hello $*`;

echo "HELLO: $hello"
echo "LONG_OPT: $long_opt"
echo "REUSE: $reuse"

echo $*

/tmp/script.sh hello --reuse me --long_opt whatever_you_want_except_spaces --hello 1 2 3

HELLO: 1 LONG_OPT: whatever_you_want_except spaces REUSE: me

1 2 3

Only caveat here is spaces don't work. But it avoids bash's rather complicated looping syntax, works with long args, auto-names them as variables and automatically resizes $*, so will work 99% of the time.

How do I read a resource file from a Java jar file?

You don't say if this is a desktop or web app. I would use the getResourceAsStream() method from an appropriate ClassLoader if it's a desktop or the Context if it's a web app.

Creating csv file with php

Just in case if someone is wondering to save the CSV file to a specific path for email attachments. Then it can be done as follows

I know I have added a lot of comments just for newbies :)

I have added an example so that you can summarize well.

$activeUsers = /** Query to get the active users */

/** Following is the Variable to store the Users data as
    CSV string with newline character delimiter,

    its good idea of check the delimiter based on operating system */

$userCSVData = "Name,Email,CreatedAt\n";

/** Looping the users and appending to my earlier csv data variable */
foreach ( $activeUsers as $user ) {
    $userCSVData .= $user->name. "," . $user->email. "," . $user->created_at."\n";
}
/** Here you can use with H:i:s too. But I really dont care of my old file */
$todayDate  = date('Y-m-d');
/** Create Filname and Path to Store */
$fileName   = 'Active Users '.$todayDate.'.csv';
$filePath = public_path('uploads/'.$fileName); //I am using laravel helper, in case if your not using laravel then just add absolute or relative path as per your requirements and path to store the file

/** Just in case if I run the script multiple time
    I want to remove the old file and add new file.

    And before deleting the file from the location I am making sure it exists */
if(file_exists($filePath)){
    unlink($filePath);
}
$fp = fopen($filePath, 'w+');
fwrite($fp, $userCSVData); /** Once the data is written it will be saved in the path given */
fclose($fp);

/** Now you can send email with attachments from the $filePath */

NOTE: The following is a very bad idea to increase the memory_limit and time limit, but I have only added to make sure if anyone faces the problem of connection time out or any other. Make sure to find out some alternative before sticking to it.

You have to add the following at the start of the above script.

ini_set("memory_limit", "10056M");
set_time_limit(0);
ini_set('mysql.connect_timeout', '0');
ini_set('max_execution_time', '0');

Difference between string and text in rails?

String translates to "Varchar" in your database, while text translates to "text". A varchar can contain far less items, a text can be of (almost) any length.

For an in-depth analysis with good references check http://www.pythian.com/news/7129/text-vs-varchar/

Edit: Some database engines can load varchar in one go, but store text (and blob) outside of the table. A SELECT name, amount FROM products could, be a lot slower when using text for name than when you use varchar. And since Rails, by default loads records with SELECT * FROM... your text-columns will be loaded. This will probably never be a real problem in your or my app, though (Premature optimization is ...). But knowing that text is not always "free" is good to know.

CSS: How to change colour of active navigation page menu

I think you are getting confused about what the a:active CSS selector does. This will only change the colour of your link when you click it (and only for the duration of the click i.e. how long your mouse button stays down). What you need to do is introduce a new class e.g. .selected into your CSS and when you select a link, update the selected menu item with new class e.g.

<div class="menuBar">
    <ul>
        <li class="selected"><a href="index.php">HOME</a></li>
        <li><a href="two.php">PORTFOLIO</a></li>
        ....
    </ul>
</div>

// specific CSS for your menu
div.menuBar li.selected a { color: #FF0000; }
// more general CSS
li.selected a { color: #FF0000; }

You will need to update your template page to take in a selectedPage parameter.

How to delete an element from an array in C#

Removing from an array itself is not simple, as you then have to deal with resizing. This is one of the great advantages of using something like a List<int> instead. It provides Remove/RemoveAt in 2.0, and lots of LINQ extensions for 3.0.

If you can, refactor to use a List<> or similar.

Symbolicating iPhone App Crash Reports

I did this successfully, using the following steps.

Step 1: Create a folder in desktop, I give name it to "CrashReport" and put three files ("MYApp.app", "MyApp.app.dSYM", "MYApp_2013-07-18.crash") in it.

Step 2: Open Finder and go to Applications, where you will find the Xcode application, right click on this and Click "Show Package Contents", after this follow this simple path. "Contents->Developer->Platforms->iPhoneOS.platform->Developer->Library->PrivateFrameworks->DTDeviceKit.framework->Versions->A->Resources"

OR

"Contents->Developer->Platforms->iPhoneOS.platform->Developer->Library->PrivateFrameworks->DTDeviceKitBase.framework->Versions->A->Resources"

OR

For Xcode 6 and above the path is Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/SharedFrameworks/DTDeviceKitBase.framework/Versions/A/Resources

Where you find "symbolicatecrash" file, copy this and paste it to "CrashReport" folder.

Step 3: launch the terminal, run these 3 Command

  1. cd /Users/mac38/Desktop/CrashReport and press Enter button

  2. export DEVELOPER_DIR="/Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer" and press Enter

  3. ./symbolicatecrash -A -v MYApp_2013-07-18.crash MyApp.app.dSYM and press Enter Now its Done.. (NOTE: versions around 6.4 or later do not have the -A option -- just leave it out).

When should I use Async Controllers in ASP.NET MVC?

As you know, MVC supports asynchronous controllers and you should take advantage of it. In case your Controller, performs a lengthy operation, (it might be a disk based I/o or a network call to another remote service), if the request is handled in synchronous manner, the IIS thread is busy the whole time. As a result, the thread is just waiting for the lengthy operation to complete. It can be better utilized by serving other requests while the operation requested in first is under progress. This will help in serving more concurrent requests. Your webservice will be highly scalable and will not easily run into C10k problem. It is a good idea to use async/await for db queries. and yes you can use them as many number of times as you deem fit.

Take a look here for excellent advise.

ASP.NET MVC: What is the purpose of @section?

A good example is Javascript. You want this to be at the bottom of the page that is rendered in the browser because this is best practice.

How would you do this from a View based on a Layout/Masterpage where you can only access the middle of the page?

You do this by declaring a Scripts section at the bottom of the Layout page. Then you can add content, in this case Javascript includes (I hope!), from your View page to the bottom of your layout page.

Reflection - get attribute name and value on property

Here are some static methods you can use to get the MaxLength, or any other attribute.

using System;
using System.Linq;
using System.Reflection;
using System.ComponentModel.DataAnnotations;
using System.Linq.Expressions;

public static class AttributeHelpers {

public static Int32 GetMaxLength<T>(Expression<Func<T,string>> propertyExpression) {
    return GetPropertyAttributeValue<T,string,MaxLengthAttribute,Int32>(propertyExpression,attr => attr.Length);
}

//Optional Extension method
public static Int32 GetMaxLength<T>(this T instance,Expression<Func<T,string>> propertyExpression) {
    return GetMaxLength<T>(propertyExpression);
}

//Required generic method to get any property attribute from any class
public static TValue GetPropertyAttributeValue<T, TOut, TAttribute, TValue>(Expression<Func<T,TOut>> propertyExpression,Func<TAttribute,TValue> valueSelector) where TAttribute : Attribute {
    var expression = (MemberExpression)propertyExpression.Body;
    var propertyInfo = (PropertyInfo)expression.Member;
    var attr = propertyInfo.GetCustomAttributes(typeof(TAttribute),true).FirstOrDefault() as TAttribute;

    if (attr==null) {
        throw new MissingMemberException(typeof(T).Name+"."+propertyInfo.Name,typeof(TAttribute).Name);
    }

    return valueSelector(attr);
}

}

Using the static method...

var length = AttributeHelpers.GetMaxLength<Player>(x => x.PlayerName);

Or using the optional extension method on an instance...

var player = new Player();
var length = player.GetMaxLength(x => x.PlayerName);

Or using the full static method for any other attribute (StringLength for example)...

var length = AttributeHelpers.GetPropertyAttributeValue<Player,string,StringLengthAttribute,Int32>(prop => prop.PlayerName,attr => attr.MaximumLength);

Java: how can I split an ArrayList in multiple small ArrayLists?

You need to know the chunk size by which you're dividing your list. Say you have a list of 108 entries and you need a chunk size of 25. Thus you will end up with 5 lists:

  • 4 having 25 entries each;
  • 1 (the fifth) having 8 elements.

Code:

public static void main(String[] args) {

        List<Integer> list = new ArrayList<Integer>();
        for (int i=0; i<108; i++){
            list.add(i);
        }
        int size= list.size();
        int j=0;
                List< List<Integer> > splittedList = new ArrayList<List<Integer>>()  ;
                List<Integer> tempList = new ArrayList<Integer>();
        for(j=0;j<size;j++){
            tempList.add(list.get(j));
        if((j+1)%25==0){
            // chunk of 25 created and clearing tempList
            splittedList.add(tempList);
            tempList = null;
            //intializing it again for new chunk
            tempList = new ArrayList<Integer>();
        }
        }
        if(size%25!=0){
            //adding the remaining enteries
            splittedList.add(tempList);
        }
        for (int k=0;k<splittedList.size(); k++){
            //(k+1) because we started from k=0
            System.out.println("Chunk number: "+(k+1)+" has elements = "+splittedList.get(k).size());
        }
    }

Visual Studio Code includePath

For Mac users who only have Command Line Tools instead of Xcode, check the /Library/Developer/CommandLineTools directory, for example::

"configurations": [{
    "name": "Mac",
    "includePath": [
            "/usr/local/include",
            // others, e.g.: "/usr/local/opt/ncurses/include",
            "/Library/Developer/CommandLineTools/SDKs/MacOSX.sdk/usr/include",
            "${workspaceFolder}/**"
    ]
}]

You probably need to adjust the path if you have different version of Command Line Tools installed.

Note: You can also open/generate the c_cpp_properties.json file via the C/Cpp: Edit Configurations command from the Command Palette (??P).

" netsh wlan start hostednetwork " command not working no matter what I try

Same issue.

I solved the problem first activating (right click mouse and select activate) from control panel (network connections) and later changing to set mode to allow (by netsh command), to finally starting the hostednetwork with other netsh command, that is:

1.- Activate (Network Connections) by right click

2.- netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow

3.- netsh wlan start hosted network

Good luck mate !!!

Adding HTML entities using CSS content

In CSS you need to use a Unicode escape sequence in place of HTML Entities. This is based on the hexadecimal value of a character.

I found that the easiest way to convert symbol to their hexadecimal equivalent is, such as from ▾ (&#9662;) to \25BE is to use the Microsoft calculator =)

Yes. Enable programmers mode, turn on the decimal system, enter 9662, then switch to hex and you'll get 25BE. Then just add a backslash \ to the beginning.

CSS show div background image on top of other contained elements

How about making the <div id="mainWrapperDivWithBGImage"> as three divs, where the two outside divs hold the rounded corners images, and the middle div simply has a background-color to match the rounded corner images. Then you could simply place the other elements inside the middle div, or:

#outside_left{width:10px; float:left;}
#outside_right{width:10px; float:right;}
#middle{background-color:#color of rnd_crnrs_foo.gif; float:left;}

Then

HTML:

<div id="mainWrapperDivWithBGImage">
  <div id="outside_left><img src="rnd_crnrs_left.gif" /></div>
  <div id="middle">
    <div id="another_div"><img src="foo.gif" /></div>
  <div id="outside_right><img src="rnd_crnrs_right.gif" /></div>
</div>

You may have to do position:relative; and such.

Git: Permission denied (publickey) fatal - Could not read from remote repository. while cloning Git repository

If there is still issue around access after creating SSH and adding it in your Bitbucket account or wherever, you need to do the following in terminal on GitBash, OSX or Linux:

# Lists already added identities (‘ssh keys’)
ssh-add -l

Then, if you don't see your key listed, add it with the following (replace identity with its real name):

# Add a new identity
ssh-add ~/.ssh/identity

This worked for me.

Resetting a multi-stage form with jQuery

I made a slight variation of Francis Lewis' nice solution. What his solution doesn't do is set the drop-down selects to blank. (I think when most people want to "clear", they probably want to make all values empty.) This one does it with .find('select').prop("selectedIndex", -1).

$.fn.clear = function()
{
    $(this).find('input')
            .filter(':text, :password, :file').val('')
            .end()
            .filter(':checkbox, :radio')
                .removeAttr('checked')
            .end()
        .end()
    .find('textarea').val('')
        .end()
    .find('select').prop("selectedIndex", -1)
        .find('option:selected').removeAttr('selected')
    ;
    return this;
};

How to stick table header(thead) on top while scrolling down the table rows with fixed header(navbar) in bootstrap 3?

Why do 64-bit DLLs go to System32 and 32-bit DLLs to SysWoW64 on 64-bit Windows?

Other folks have already done a good job of explaining this ridiculus conundrum ... and I think Chris Hoffman did an even better job here: https://www.howtogeek.com/326509/whats-the-difference-between-the-system32-and-syswow64-folders-in-windows/

My two thoughts:

  1. We all make stupid short-sighted mistakes in life. When Microsoft named their (at the time) Win32 DLL directory "System32", it made sense at the time ... they just didn't take into consideration what would happen if/when a 64-bit (or 128-bit) version of their OS got developed later - and the massive backward compatibility issue such a directory name would cause. Hindsight is always 20-20, so I can't really blame them (too much) for such a mistake. ...HOWEVER... When Microsoft did later develop their 64-bit operating system, even with the benefit of hindsight, why oh why would they make not only the exact same short-sighted mistake AGAIN but make it even worse by PURPOSEFULLY giving it such a misleading name?!? Shame on them!!! Why not AT LEAST actually name the directory "SysWin32OnWin64" to avoid confusion?!? And what happens when they eventually produce a 128-bit OS ... then where are they going to put their 32-bit, 64-bit, and 128-bit DLLs?!?

  2. All of this logic still seems completely flawed to me. On 32-bit versions of Windows, System32 contains 32-bit DLLs; on 64-bit versions of Windows, System32 contains 64-bit DLLs ... so that developers wouldn't have to make code changes, correct? The problem with this logic is that those developers are either now making 64-bit apps needing 64-bit DLLs or they're making 32-bit apps needing 32-bit DLLs ... either way, aren't they still screwed? I mean, if they're still making a 32-bit app, for it to now run on a 64-bit Windows, they'll now need to make a code change to find/reference the same ol' 32-bit DLL they used before (now located in SysWOW64). Or, if they're working on a 64-bit app, they're going to need to re-write their old app for the new OS anyway ... so a recompile/rebuild was going to be needed anyway!!!

Microsoft just hurts me sometimes.

Is it valid to define functions in JSON results?

Via using NodeJS (commonJS syntax) I was able to get this type of functionality working, I originally had just a JSON structure inside some external JS file, but I wanted that structure to be more of a Class, with methods that could be decided at run time.

The declaration of 'Executor' in myJSON is not required.

var myJSON = {
    "Hello": "World",
    "Executor": ""
}

module.exports = {
    init: () => { return { ...myJSON, "Executor": (first, last) => { return first + last } } }
}

angular.min.js.map not found, what is it exactly?

Monkey is right, according to the link given by monkey

Basically it's a way to map a combined/minified file back to an unbuilt state. When you build for production, along with minifying and combining your JavaScript files, you generate a source map which holds information about your original files. When you query a certain line and column number in your generated JavaScript you can do a lookup in the source map which returns the original location.

I am not sure if it is angular's fault that no map files were generated. But you can turn off source map files by unchecking this option in chrome console setting

Unable to send email using Gmail SMTP server through PHPMailer, getting error: SMTP AUTH is required for message submission on port 587. How to fix?

So I just solved my own "SMTP connection failure" error and I wanted to post the solution just in case it helps anyone else.

I used the EXACT code given in the PHPMailer example gmail.phps file. It worked simply while I was using MAMP and then I got the SMTP connection error once I moved it on to my personal server.

All of the Stack Overflow answers I read, and all of the troubleshooting documentation from PHPMailer said that it wasn't an issue with PHPMailer. That it was a settings issue on the server side. I tried different ports (587, 465, 25), I tried 'SSL' and 'TLS' encryption. I checked that openssl was enabled in my php.ini file. I checked that there wasn't a firewall issue. Everything checked out, and still nothing.

The solution was that I had to remove this line:

$mail->isSMTP();

Now it all works. I don't know why, but it works. The rest of my code is copied and pasted from the PHPMailer example file.

Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM warning: ignoring option MaxPermSize

I got similar message when running command line mvn (version 3.3.3) on Linux with Java 8. By opening maven script /$MAVEN-HOME/bin/mvn, found the following line

MAVEN_OPTS="$(concat_lines "$MAVEN_PROJECTBASEDIR/.mvn/jvm.config") $MAVEN_OPTS"

Where $MAVEN_PROJECTBASEDIR by default is your home directory. So two places you can take a look, first is file $MAVEN_PROJECTBASEDIR/.mvn/jvm.config if it exists. Secondly look at files possibly set up the environment variable MAVEN_OPTS. Candidate files are .bashrc, .bash_profile, .profile and those files included by them such as /etc/profile, /etc/bash.bashrc

I located

export MAVEN_OPTS="-Xmx512m -XX:MaxPermSize=256m"

in .bashrc in my system, change it to

export MAVEN_OPTS="-Xmx512m"

issue resolved

Importing xsd into wsdl

You have a couple of problems here.

First, the XSD has an issue where an element is both named or referenced; in your case should be referenced.

Change:

<xsd:element name="stock" ref="Stock" minOccurs="1" maxOccurs="unbounded"/>

To:

<xsd:element name="stock" type="Stock" minOccurs="1" maxOccurs="unbounded"/>

And:

  • Remove the declaration of the global element Stock
  • Create a complex type declaration for a type named Stock

So:

<xsd:element name="Stock">
    <xsd:complexType>

To:

<xsd:complexType name="Stock">

Make sure you fix the xml closing tags.

The second problem is that the correct way to reference an external XSD is to use XSD schema with import/include within a wsdl:types element. wsdl:import is reserved to referencing other WSDL files. More information is available by going through the WS-I specification, section WSDL and Schema Import. Based on WS-I, your case would be:

INCORRECT: (the way you showed it)

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<definitions targetNamespace="http://stock.com/schemas/services/stock/wsdl"
    .....xmlns:external="http://stock.com/schemas/services/stock"
    <import namespace="http://stock.com/schemas/services/stock" location="Stock.xsd" />
    <message name="getStockQuoteResp">
        <part name="parameters" element="external:getStockQuoteResponse" />
    </message>
</definitions>

CORRECT:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<definitions targetNamespace="http://stock.com/schemas/services/stock/wsdl"
    .....xmlns:external="http://stock.com/schemas/services/stock"
    <types>
        <schema xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema">
            <import namespace="http://stock.com/schemas/services/stock" schemaLocation="Stock.xsd" />
        </schema>
    </types>
    <message name="getStockQuoteResp">
        <part name="parameters" element="external:getStockQuoteResponse" />
    </message>
</definitions>

SOME processors may support both syntaxes. The XSD you put out shows issues, make sure you first validate the XSD.

It would be better if you go the WS-I way when it comes to WSDL authoring.

Other issues may be related to the use of relative vs. absolute URIs in locating external content.

Precision String Format Specifier In Swift

You can still use NSLog in Swift as in Objective-C just without the @ sign.

NSLog("%.02f %.02f %.02f", r, g, b)

Edit: After working with Swift since a while I would like to add also this variation

    var r=1.2
    var g=1.3
    var b=1.4
    NSLog("\(r) \(g) \(b)")

Output:

2014-12-07 21:00:42.128 MyApp[1626:60b] 1.2 1.3 1.4

Create a .csv file with values from a Python list

Use python's csv module for reading and writing comma or tab-delimited files. The csv module is preferred because it gives you good control over quoting.

For example, here is the worked example for you:

import csv
data = ["value %d" % i for i in range(1,4)]

out = csv.writer(open("myfile.csv","w"), delimiter=',',quoting=csv.QUOTE_ALL)
out.writerow(data)

Produces:

"value 1","value 2","value 3"

Java abstract interface

Well 'Abstract Interface' is a Lexical construct: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lexical_analysis.

It is required by the compiler, you could also write interface.

Well don't get too much into Lexical construct of the language as they might have put it there to resolve some compilation ambiguity which is termed as special cases during compiling process or for some backward compatibility, try to focus on core Lexical construct.

The essence of `interface is to capture some abstract concept (idea/thought/higher order thinking etc) whose implementation may vary ... that is, there may be multiple implementation.

An Interface is a pure abstract data type that represents the features of the Object it is capturing or representing.

Features can be represented by space or by time. When they are represented by space (memory storage) it means that your concrete class will implement a field and method/methods that will operate on that field or by time which means that the task of implementing the feature is purely computational (requires more cpu clocks for processing) so you have a trade off between space and time for feature implementation.

If your concrete class does not implement all features it again becomes abstract because you have a implementation of your thought or idea or abstractness but it is not complete , you specify it by abstract class.

A concrete class will be a class/set of classes which will fully capture the abstractness you are trying to capture class XYZ.

So the Pattern is

Interface--->Abstract class/Abstract classes(depends)-->Concrete class

How to select all the columns of a table except one column?

You can get the column name details from sys.columns table

Try the following query:

SELECT * FROM SYS.COLUMNS
WHERE object_id = OBJECT_ID('dbo.TableName')
AND [Name] <> 'ColumnName'

DECLARE @sql as VARCHAR(8000)
SET @sql = 'SELECT '

SELECT @sql += [Name] + ', ' FROM SYS.COLUMNS
WHERE object_id = OBJECT_ID('dbo.TableName')
AND [Name] <> 'ColumnName'

SELECT @sql += ' FROM Dbo.TableName'

EXEC(@sql)

SQL Server : Columns to Rows

well If you have 150 columns then I think that UNPIVOT is not an option. So you could use xml trick

;with CTE1 as (
    select ID, EntityID, (select t.* for xml raw('row'), type) as Data
    from temp1 as t
), CTE2 as (
    select
         C.id, C.EntityID,
         F.C.value('local-name(.)', 'nvarchar(128)') as IndicatorName,
         F.C.value('.', 'nvarchar(max)') as IndicatorValue
    from CTE1 as c
        outer apply c.Data.nodes('row/@*') as F(C)
)
select * from CTE2 where IndicatorName like 'Indicator%'

sql fiddle demo

You could also write dynamic SQL, but I like xml more - for dynamic SQL you have to have permissions to select data directly from table and that's not always an option.

UPDATE
As there a big flame in comments, I think I'll add some pros and cons of xml/dynamic SQL. I'll try to be as objective as I could and not mention elegantness and uglyness. If you got any other pros and cons, edit the answer or write in comments

cons

  • it's not as fast as dynamic SQL, rough tests gave me that xml is about 2.5 times slower that dynamic (it was one query on ~250000 rows table, so this estimate is no way exact). You could compare it yourself if you want, here's sqlfiddle example, on 100000 rows it was 29s (xml) vs 14s (dynamic);
  • may be it could be harder to understand for people not familiar with xpath;

pros

  • it's the same scope as your other queries, and that could be very handy. A few examples come to mind
    • you could query inserted and deleted tables inside your trigger (not possible with dynamic at all);
    • user don't have to have permissions on direct select from table. What I mean is if you have stored procedures layer and user have permissions to run sp, but don't have permissions to query tables directly, you still could use this query inside stored procedure;
    • you could query table variable you have populated in your scope (to pass it inside the dynamic SQL you have to either make it temporary table instead or create type and pass it as a parameter into dynamic SQL;
  • you can do this query inside the function (scalar or table-valued). It's not possible to use dynamic SQL inside the functions;

Pass array to ajax request in $.ajax()

Just use the JSON.stringify method and pass it through as the "data" parameter for the $.ajax function, like follows:

$.ajax({
    type: "POST",
    url: "index.php",
    dataType: "json",
    data: JSON.stringify({ paramName: info }),
    success: function(msg){
        $('.answer').html(msg);
    }
});

You just need to make sure you include the JSON2.js file in your page...

Is calling destructor manually always a sign of bad design?

No, you shouldn't call it explicitly because it would be called twice. Once for the manual call and another time when the scope in which the object is declared ends.

Eg.

{
  Class c;
  c.~Class();
}

If you really need to perform the same operations you should have a separate method.

There is a specific situation in which you may want to call a destructor on a dynamically allocated object with a placement new but it doesn't sound something you will ever need.

How to merge two PDF files into one in Java?

If you want to combine two files where one overlays the other (example: document A is a template and document B has the text you want to put on the template), this works:

after creating "doc", you want to write your template (templateFile) on top of that -

   PDDocument watermarkDoc = PDDocument.load(getServletContext()
                .getRealPath(templateFile));
   Overlay overlay = new Overlay();

   overlay.overlay(watermarkDoc, doc);

Most efficient way to see if an ArrayList contains an object in Java

Maybe a List isn't what you need.

Maybe a TreeSet would be a better container. You get O(log N) insertion and retrieval, and ordered iteration (but won't allow duplicates).

LinkedHashMap might be even better for your use case, check that out too.

Global variable Python classes

What you have is correct, though you will not call it global, it is a class attribute and can be accessed via class e.g Shape.lolwut or via an instance e.g. shape.lolwut but be careful while setting it as it will set an instance level attribute not class attribute

class Shape(object):
    lolwut = 1

shape = Shape()

print Shape.lolwut,  # 1
print shape.lolwut,  # 1

# setting shape.lolwut would not change class attribute lolwut
# but will create it in the instance
shape.lolwut = 2

print Shape.lolwut,  # 1
print shape.lolwut,  # 2

# to change class attribute access it via class
Shape.lolwut = 3

print Shape.lolwut,  # 3
print shape.lolwut   # 2

output:

1 1 1 2 3 2

Somebody may expect output to be 1 1 2 2 3 3 but it would be incorrect

If statement within Where clause

You can't use IF like that. You can do what you want with AND and OR:

SELECT t.first_name,
       t.last_name,
       t.employid,
       t.status
  FROM employeetable t
 WHERE ((status_flag = STATUS_ACTIVE   AND t.status = 'A')
     OR (status_flag = STATUS_INACTIVE AND t.status = 'T')
     OR (source_flag = SOURCE_FUNCTION AND t.business_unit = 'production')
     OR (source_flag = SOURCE_USER     AND t.business_unit = 'users'))
   AND t.first_name LIKE firstname
   AND t.last_name  LIKE lastname
   AND t.employid   LIKE employeeid;

Implementing Singleton with an Enum (in Java)

As has, to some extent, been mentioned before, an enum is a java class with the special condition that its definition must start with at least one "enum constant".

Apart from that, and that enums cant can't be extended or used to extend other classes, an enum is a class like any class and you use it by adding methods below the constant definitions:

public enum MySingleton {
    INSTANCE;

    public void doSomething() { ... }

    public synchronized String getSomething() { return something; }

    private String something;
}

You access the singleton's methods along these lines:

MySingleton.INSTANCE.doSomething();
String something = MySingleton.INSTANCE.getSomething();

The use of an enum, instead of a class, is, as has been mentioned in other answers, mostly about a thread-safe instantiation of the singleton and a guarantee that it will always only be one copy.

And, perhaps, most importantly, that this behavior is guaranteed by the JVM itself and the Java specification.

Here's a section from the Java specification on how multiple instances of an enum instance is prevented:

An enum type has no instances other than those defined by its enum constants. It is a compile-time error to attempt to explicitly instantiate an enum type. The final clone method in Enum ensures that enum constants can never be cloned, and the special treatment by the serialization mechanism ensures that duplicate instances are never created as a result of deserialization. Reflective instantiation of enum types is prohibited. Together, these four things ensure that no instances of an enum type exist beyond those defined by the enum constants.

Worth noting is that after the instantiation any thread-safety concerns must be handled like in any other class with the synchronized keyword etc.

Mobile Safari: Javascript focus() method on inputfield only works with click?

I managed to make it work with the following code:

event.preventDefault();
timeout(function () {
    $inputToFocus.focus();
}, 500);

I'm using AngularJS so I have created a directive which solved my problem:

Directive:

angular.module('directivesModule').directive('focusOnClear', [
    '$timeout',
    function (timeout) {
        return {
            restrict: 'A',
            link: function (scope, element, attrs) {
                var id = attrs.focusOnClear;
                var $inputSearchElement = $(element).parent().find('#' + id);
                element.on('click', function (event) {
                    event.preventDefault();
                    timeout(function () {
                        $inputSearchElement.focus();
                    }, 500);
                });
            }
        };
    }
]);

How to use the directive:

<div>
    <input type="search" id="search">
    <i class="icon-clear" ng-click="clearSearchTerm()" focus-on-clear="search"></i>
</div>

It looks like you are using jQuery, so I don't know if the directive is any help.

kill -3 to get java thread dump

Steps that you should follow if you want the thread dump of your StandAlone Java Process

Step 1: Get the Process ID for the shell script calling the java program

linux$ ps -aef | grep "runABCD"

user1  **8535**  4369   0   Mar 25 ?           0:00 /bin/csh /home/user1/runABCD.sh

user1 17796 17372   0 08:15:41 pts/49      0:00 grep runABCD

Step 2: Get the Process ID for the Child which was Invoked by the runABCD. Use the above PID to get the childs.

linux$ ps -aef | grep **8535**

user1  **8536**  8535   0   Mar 25 ?         126:38 /apps/java/jdk/sun4/SunOS5/1.6.0_16/bin/java -cp /home/user1/XYZServer

user1  8535  4369   0   Mar 25 ?           0:00 /bin/csh /home/user1/runABCD.sh

user1 17977 17372   0 08:15:49 pts/49      0:00 grep 8535

Step 3: Get the JSTACK for the particular process. Get the Process id of your XYSServer process. i.e. 8536

linux$ jstack **8536** > threadDump.log

How to select multiple rows filled with constants?

Here is how I populate static data in Oracle 10+ using a neat XML trick.

create table prop
(ID NUMBER,
 NAME varchar2(10),
 VAL varchar2(10),
 CREATED timestamp,
 CONSTRAINT PK_PROP PRIMARY KEY(ID)
);

merge into Prop p
using (
select
  extractValue(value(r), '/R/ID') ID,
  extractValue(value(r), '/R/NAME') NAME,
  extractValue(value(r), '/R/VAL') VAL
from
(select xmltype('
<ROWSET>
   <R><ID>1</ID><NAME>key1</NAME><VAL>value1</VAL></R>
   <R><ID>2</ID><NAME>key2</NAME><VAL>value2</VAL></R>
   <R><ID>3</ID><NAME>key3</NAME><VAL>value3</VAL></R>
</ROWSET>
') xml from dual) input,
 table(xmlsequence(input.xml.extract('/ROWSET/R'))) r
) p_new
on (p.ID = p_new.ID)
when not matched then
insert
(ID, NAME, VAL, CREATED)
values
( p_new.ID, p_new.NAME, p_new.VAL, SYSTIMESTAMP );

The merge only inserts the rows that are missing in the original table, which is convenient if you want to rerun your insert script.

How can I check if a value is of type Integer?

If you have a double/float/floating point number and want to see if it's an integer.

public boolean isDoubleInt(double d)

    return Math.abs(Math.floor(d) - d) < TOLERANCE;
}

If you have a string and want to see if it's an integer. Preferably, don't throw out the Integer.valueOf() result:

public boolean isStringInt(String s)
{
    try
    {
        Integer.parseInt(s);
        return true;
    } catch (NumberFormatException ex)
    {
        return false;
    }
}

If you want to see if something is an Integer object (and hence wraps an int):

public boolean isObjectInteger(Object o)
{
    return o instanceof Integer;
}

design a stack such that getMinimum( ) should be O(1)

I think only push operation suffers, is enough. My implementation includes a stack of nodes. Each node contain the data item and also the minimum on that moment. This minimum is updated each time a push operation is done.

Here are some points for understanding:

  • I implemented the stack using Linked List.

  • A pointer top always points to the last pushed item. When there is no item in that stack top is NULL.

  • When an item is pushed a new node is allocated which has a next pointer that points to the previous stack and top is updated to point to this new node.

Only difference with normal stack implementation is that during push it updates a member min for the new node.

Please have a look at code which is implemented in C++ for demonstration purpose.

/*
 * Implementation of Stack that can give minimum in O(1) time all the time
 * This solution uses same data structure for minimum variable, it could be implemented using pointers but that will be more space consuming

Using Camera in the Android emulator

Some elaboration, in the hope of clarifying what has already been said:

As stated above, Webcams are supported natively in the current SDK, but only on recent android versions (4.0 and higher)

Webcam detection is automatic where present. In 4.0.3, the camera defaults to the front-facing camera so a lot of applications (especially pre-2.3 applications, which can only fetch the default camera, i.e. the back-facing one) will still show you the old checkerbox-with-moving-square stand-in instead.

I think some more info is available in the following post: Camera on Android Eclipse emulator:

Or at least, that's the most information I've been able to find--aside from the brief, uninformative statements in the release notes for the SDK tools.

Execute PowerShell Script from C# with Commandline Arguments

I have another solution. I just want to test if executing a PowerShell script succeeds, because perhaps somebody might change the policy. As the argument, I just specify the path of the script to be executed.

ProcessStartInfo startInfo = new ProcessStartInfo();
startInfo.FileName = @"powershell.exe";
startInfo.Arguments = @"& 'c:\Scripts\test.ps1'";
startInfo.RedirectStandardOutput = true;
startInfo.RedirectStandardError = true;
startInfo.UseShellExecute = false;
startInfo.CreateNoWindow = true;
Process process = new Process();
process.StartInfo = startInfo;
process.Start();

string output = process.StandardOutput.ReadToEnd();
Assert.IsTrue(output.Contains("StringToBeVerifiedInAUnitTest"));

string errors = process.StandardError.ReadToEnd();
Assert.IsTrue(string.IsNullOrEmpty(errors));

With the contents of the script being:

$someVariable = "StringToBeVerifiedInAUnitTest"
$someVariable

Can you find all classes in a package using reflection?

I couldn't find a short working snipped for something so simple. So here it is, I made it myself after screwing around for a while:

    Reflections reflections =
        new Reflections(new ConfigurationBuilder()
                .filterInputsBy(new FilterBuilder().includePackage(packagePath))
                .setUrls(ClasspathHelper.forPackage(packagePath))
                .setScanners(new SubTypesScanner(false)));

    Set<String> typeList = reflections.getAllTypes();

Increase number of axis ticks

You can supply a function argument to scale, and ggplot will use that function to calculate the tick locations.

library(ggplot2)
dat <- data.frame(x = rnorm(100), y = rnorm(100))
number_ticks <- function(n) {function(limits) pretty(limits, n)}

ggplot(dat, aes(x,y)) +
  geom_point() +
  scale_x_continuous(breaks=number_ticks(10)) +
  scale_y_continuous(breaks=number_ticks(10))

expand/collapse table rows with JQuery

I expanded one of the answers, however my functionality is a bit different. In my version, different rows form different groups. And "header" row triggers collapsing/expanding of that particular group. Also, each individual subgroup memorizes state that its in. It might sound a bit confusing, you can test drive my version using jsfiddle. Hope this code snippets will be helpful to someone out there!

Best way to store date/time in mongodb

One datestamp is already in the _id object, representing insert time

So if the insert time is what you need, it's already there:

Login to mongodb shell

ubuntu@ip-10-0-1-223:~$ mongo 10.0.1.223
MongoDB shell version: 2.4.9
connecting to: 10.0.1.223/test

Create your database by inserting items

> db.penguins.insert({"penguin": "skipper"})
> db.penguins.insert({"penguin": "kowalski"})
>

Lets make that database the one we are on now

> use penguins
switched to db penguins

Get the rows back:

> db.penguins.find()
{ "_id" : ObjectId("5498da1bf83a61f58ef6c6d5"), "penguin" : "skipper" }
{ "_id" : ObjectId("5498da28f83a61f58ef6c6d6"), "penguin" : "kowalski" }

Get each row in yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss format:

> db.penguins.find().forEach(function (doc){ d = doc._id.getTimestamp(); print(d.getFullYear()+"-"+(d.getMonth()+1)+"-"+d.getDate() + " " + d.getHours() + ":" + d.getMinutes() + ":" + d.getSeconds()) })

SQL Query to find missing rows between two related tables

SELECT A.ABC_ID, A.VAL FROM A WHERE NOT EXISTS
   (SELECT * FROM B WHERE B.ABC_ID = A.ABC_ID AND B.VAL = A.VAL)

or

SELECT A.ABC_ID, A.VAL FROM A WHERE VAL NOT IN
    (SELECT VAL FROM B WHERE B.ABC_ID = A.ABC_ID)

or

SELECT A.ABC_ID, A.VAL LEFT OUTER JOIN B
    ON A.ABC_ID = B.ABC_ID AND A.VAL = B.VAL FROM A WHERE B.VAL IS NULL

Please note that these queries do not require that ABC_ID be in table B at all. I think that does what you want.

Python coding standards/best practices

To add to bhadra's list of idiomatic guides:

Checkout Anthony Baxter's presentation on Effective Python Programming (from OSON 2005).

An excerpt:

# dict's setdefault method turns this:
if key in dictobj:
    dictobj[key].append(val)
else:
    dictobj[key] = [val]
# into this:
dictobj.setdefault(key,[]).append(val)

Get the selected option id with jQuery

Th easiest way to this is var id = $(this).val(); from inside an event like on change.

How to remove items from a list while iterating?

The most effective method is list comprehension, many people show their case, of course, it is also a good way to get an iterator through filter.

Filter receives a function and a sequence. Filter applies the passed function to each element in turn, and then decides whether to retain or discard the element depending on whether the function return value is True or False.

There is an example (get the odds in the tuple):

list(filter(lambda x:x%2==1, (1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 9, 10, 15)))
# result: [1, 5, 9, 15]

Caution: You can also not handle iterators. Iterators are sometimes better than sequences.

How do a LDAP search/authenticate against this LDAP in Java

Another approach is using UnboundID. Its api is very readable and shorter

Create a Ldap Connection

public static LDAPConnection getConnection() throws LDAPException {
    // host, port, username and password
    return new LDAPConnection("com.example.local", 389, "[email protected]", "admin");
}

Get filter result

public static List<SearchResultEntry> getResults(LDAPConnection connection, String baseDN, String filter) throws LDAPSearchException {
    SearchResult searchResult;

    if (connection.isConnected()) {
        searchResult = connection.search(baseDN, SearchScope.ONE, filter);

        return searchResult.getSearchEntries();
    }

    return null;
}

Get all Oragnization Units and Containers

String baseDN = "DC=com,DC=example,DC=local";
String filter = "(&(|(objectClass=organizationalUnit)(objectClass=container)))";

LDAPConnection connection = getConnection();
List<SearchResultEntry> results = getResults(connection, baseDN, filter);

Get a specific Organization Unit

String baseDN = "DC=com,DC=example,DC=local";
String dn = "CN=Users,DC=com,DC=example,DC=local";

String filterFormat = "(&(|(objectClass=organizationalUnit)(objectClass=container))(distinguishedName=%s))";
String filter = String.format(filterFormat, dn);

LDAPConnection connection =  getConnection();

List<SearchResultEntry> results = getResults(connection, baseDN, filter);

Get all users under an Organizational Unit

String baseDN = "CN=Users,DC=com,DC=example,DC=local";
String filter = "(&(objectClass=user)(!(objectCategory=computer)))";

LDAPConnection connection =  getConnection();
List<SearchResultEntry> results = getResults(connection, baseDN, filter);

Get a specific user under an Organization Unit

String baseDN = "CN=Users,DC=com,DC=example,DC=local";
String userDN = "CN=abc,CN=Users,DC=com,DC=example,DC=local";

String filterFormat = "(&(objectClass=user)(distinguishedName=%s))";
String filter = String.format(filterFormat, userDN);

LDAPConnection connection =  getConnection();
List<SearchResultEntry> results = getResults(connection, baseDN, filter);

Display result

for (SearchResultEntry e : results) {
    System.out.println("name: " + e.getAttributeValue("name"));
}

How to use sha256 in php5.3.0

A way better solution is to just use the excelent compatibility script from Anthony Ferrara:

https://github.com/ircmaxell/password_compat

Please, and also, when checking the password, always add a way (preferibly async, so it doesn't impact the check process for timming attacks) to update the hash if needed.

What is the use of System.in.read()?

This example should help? Along with the comments, of course >:)

WARNING: MAN IS AN OVERUSED FREQUENT WORD IN THIS PARAGRAPH/POST

Overall I recommend using the Scanner class since you can input large sentences, I'm not entirely sure System.in.read has such aspects. If possible, please correct me.

public class InputApp {

// Don't worry, passing in args in the main method as one of the arguments isn't required MAN

    public static void main(String[] argumentalManWithAManDisorder){
        char inputManAger;

        System.out.println("Input Some Crap Man: ");
        try{
            // If you forget to cast char you will FAIL YOUR TASK MAN
            inputManAger = (char) System.in.read();
            System.out.print("You entererd " + inputManAger + " MAN");
        }
        catch(Exception e){
            System.out.println("ELEMENTARY SCHOOL MAN");
        }
    }
}

How do I generate a list with a specified increment step?

The following example shows benchmarks for a few alternatives.

library(rbenchmark) # Note spelling: "rbenchmark", not "benchmark"
benchmark(seq(0,1e6,by=2),(0:5e5)*2,seq.int(0L,1e6L,by=2L))
##                     test replications elapsed  relative user.self sys.self
## 2          (0:5e+05) * 2          100   0.587  3.536145     0.344    0.244
## 1     seq(0, 1e6, by = 2)         100   2.760 16.626506     1.832    0.900
## 3 seq.int(0, 1e6, by = 2)         100   0.166  1.000000     0.056    0.096

In this case, seq.int is the fastest method and seq the slowest. If performance of this step isn't that important (it still takes < 3 seconds to generate a sequence of 500,000 values), I might still use seq as the most readable solution.

C# - How to get Program Files (x86) on Windows 64 bit

Environment.GetEnvironmentVariable("PROGRAMFILES(X86)") ?? Environment.GetFolderPath(Environment.SpecialFolder.ProgramFiles)

Find the paths between two given nodes?

given the adjacency matrix:

{0, 1, 3, 4, 0, 0}

{0, 0, 2, 1, 2, 0}

{0, 1, 0, 3, 0, 0}

{0, 1, 1, 0, 0, 1}

{0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 6}

{0, 1, 0, 1, 0, 0}

the following Wolfram Mathematica code solve the problem to find all the simple paths between two nodes of a graph. I used simple recursion, and two global var to keep track of cycles and to store the desired output. the code hasn't been optimized just for the sake of code clarity. the "print" should be helpful to clarify how it works.

cycleQ[l_]:=If[Length[DeleteDuplicates[l]] == Length[l], False, True];
getNode[matrix_, node_]:=Complement[Range[Length[matrix]],Flatten[Position[matrix[[node]], 0]]];

        If[cycleQ[lcycle] == True,
            lcycle = Most[lcycle]; appendToTree[root, nodes];,
            Print["paths: ", tree, "\n", "root:", root, "---nodes:",nodes];
            appendToTree[root, nodes];

        ];
    ];

appendToTree[root_, nodes_] := Block[{pos, toAdd},
    pos = Flatten[Position[tree[[All, -1]], root]];
    For[i = 1, i <= Length[pos], i++,
        toAdd = Flatten[Thread[{tree[[pos[[i]]]], {#}}]] & /@ nodes;
        (* check cycles!*)
        If[cycleQ[#] != True, AppendTo[tree, #]] & /@ toAdd;
    ];
    tree = Delete[tree, {#} & /@ pos];
    builtTree[#, matrix] & /@ Union[tree[[All, -1]]];

to call the code: initNode = 1; endNode = 6; lcycle = {}; tree = {{initNode}}; builtTree[initNode, matrix];

paths: {{1}} root:1---nodes:{2,3,4}

self referential struct definition?

I know this post is old, however, to get the effect you are looking for, you may want to try the following:

#define TAKE_ADVANTAGE

/* Forward declaration of "struct Cell" as type Cell. */
typedef struct Cell Cell;

#ifdef TAKE_ADVANTAGE
/*
   Define Cell structure taking advantage of forward declaration.
*/
struct Cell
{
   int isParent;
   Cell *child;
};

#else

/*
   Or...you could define it as other posters have mentioned without taking
   advantage of the forward declaration.
*/
struct Cell
{
   int isParent;
   struct Cell *child;
};

#endif

/*
    Some code here...
*/

/* Use the Cell type. */
Cell newCell;

In either of the two cases mentioned in the code fragment above, you MUST declare your child Cell structure as a pointer. If you do not, then you will get the "field 'child' has incomplete type" error. The reason is that "struct Cell" must be defined in order for the compiler to know how much space to allocate when it is used.

If you attempt to use "struct Cell" inside the definition of "struct Cell", then the compiler cannot yet know how much space "struct Cell" is supposed to take. However, the compiler already knows how much space a pointer takes, and (with the forward declaration) it knows that "Cell" is a type of "struct Cell" (although it doesn't yet know how big a "struct Cell" is). So, the compiler can define a "Cell *" within the struct that is being defined.

Connect to external server by using phpMyAdmin

You can use the phpmyadmin setup page (./phpmyadmin/setup) to generate a new config file (config.inc.php) for you. This file is found at the root of the phpMyAdmin directory.

Just create the config folder as prompted in setup page, add your servers, then click the 'Save' button. This will create a new config file in the config folder you just created.

You now have only to move the config.inc.php file to the main phpMyAdmin folder, or just copy the lines concerning the servers if you got some old configuration done already you'd like to keep.

Don't forget to delete the config folder afterwards.

How to capture the screenshot of a specific element rather than entire page using Selenium Webdriver?

In Node.js, I wrote the following code which works but it is not based on selenium's official WebDriverJS, but based on SauceLabs's WebDriver: WD.js and a very compact image library called EasyImage.

I just wanna emphasize that you cannot really take the screenshot of an element but what you should do is to first, take the screenshot of the whole page, then select the part of the page you like and crop that specific part:

browser.get(URL_TO_VISIT)
       .waitForElementById(dependentElementId, webdriver.asserters.isDisplayed, 3000)
       .elementById(elementID)
        .getSize().then(function(size) {
            browser.elementById(elementID)
                   .getLocation().then(function(location) {
                        browser.takeScreenshot().then(function(data) {
                            var base64Data = data.replace(/^data:image\/png;base64,/, "");
                            fs.writeFile(filePath, base64Data, 'base64', function(err) {
                                if (err) {
                                    console.log(err);
                                }
                                else {
                                    cropInFile(size, location, filePath);
                                }
                                doneCallback();
                        });
                    });
                });
            });

And the cropInFileFunction, goes like this:

var cropInFile = function(size, location, srcFile) {
    easyimg.crop({
            src: srcFile,
            dst: srcFile,
            cropwidth: size.width,
            cropheight: size.height,
            x: location.x,
            y: location.y,
            gravity: 'North-West'
        },
        function(err, stdout, stderr) {
            if (err) throw err;
        });
};

Execute another jar in a Java program

If I understand correctly it appears you want to run the jars in a separate process from inside your java GUI application.

To do this you can use:

// Run a java app in a separate system process
Process proc = Runtime.getRuntime().exec("java -jar A.jar");
// Then retreive the process output
InputStream in = proc.getInputStream();
InputStream err = proc.getErrorStream();

Its always good practice to buffer the output of the process.

JPA and Hibernate - Criteria vs. JPQL or HQL

Criteria API

Criteria API is better suited for dynamically generated queries. So, if you want to add WHERE clause filters, JOIN clauses, or vary the ORDER BY clause or the projection columns, then the Criteria API can help you generate the query dynamically in a way that also prevents SQL Injection attacks.

On the other hand, Criteria queries are less expressive and can even lead to very complicated and inefficient SQL queries.

JPQL and HQL

JPQL is the JPA standard entity query language while HQL extends JPQL and adds some Hibernate-specific features.

JPQL and HQL are very expressive and resemble SQL. Unlike Criteria API, JPQL and HQL make it easy to predict the underlying SQL query that's generated by the JPA provider. It's also much easier to review one's HQL queries than Criteria ones.

It's worth noting that selecting entities with JPQL or Criteria API makes sense if you need to modify them. Otherwise, a DTO projection is a much better choice.

Conclusion

If you don't need to vary the entity query structure, then use JPQL or HQL. If you need to change the filtering or sorting criteria or change the projection, then use Criteria API.

However, just because you are using JPA or Hibernate, it doesn't mean you should not use native SQL. SQL queries are very useful and JPQL and Criteria API are not a replacement for SQL.

Modifying local variable from inside lambda

You can wrap it up to workaround the compiler but please remember that side effects in lambdas are discouraged.

To quote the javadoc

Side-effects in behavioral parameters to stream operations are, in general, discouraged, as they can often lead to unwitting violations of the statelessness requirement A small number of stream operations, such as forEach() and peek(), can operate only via side-effects; these should be used with care

Pythonic way to add datetime.date and datetime.time objects

It's in the python docs.

returns

datetime.datetime(2011, 1, 1, 10, 23)

How do I check to see if my array includes an object?

Why not do it simply by picking eight different numbers from 0 to Horse.count and use that to get your horses?

offsets = (0...Horse.count).to_a.sample(8)
@suggested_horses = offsets.map{|i| Horse.first(:offset => i) }

This has the added advantage that it won't cause an infinite loop if you happen to have less than 8 horses in your database.

Note: Array#sample is new to 1.9 (and coming in 1.8.8), so either upgrade your Ruby, require 'backports' or use something like shuffle.first(n).

Decompile .smali files on an APK

My recommendation is Virtuous Ten Studio. The tool is free but they suggest a donation. It combines all the necessary steps (unpacking APK, baksmaliing, decompiling, etc.) into one easy-to-use UI-based import process. Within five minutes you should have Java source code, less than it takes to figure out the command line options of one of the above mentioned tools.

Decompiling smali to Java is an inexact process, especially if the smali artifacts went through an obfuscator. You can find several decompilers on the web but only some of them are still maintained. Some will give you better decompiled code than others. Read "better" as in "more understandable" than others. Don't expect that the reverse-engineered Java code will compile out of the box. Virtuous Ten Studio comes with multiple free Java decompilers built-in so you can easily try out different decompilers (the "Generate Java source" step) to see which one gives you the best results, saving you the time to find those decompilers yourself and figure out how to use them. Amongst them is CFR, which is one of the few free and still maintained decompilers.

As output you receive, amongst other things, a folder structure that contains all the decompiled Java source code. You can then import this into IntelliJ IDEA or Eclipse for further editing, analysis (e.g. Go to definition, Find usages), etc.

How to change the length of a column in a SQL Server table via T-SQL

So, let's say you have this table:

CREATE TABLE YourTable(Col1 VARCHAR(10))

And you want to change Col1 to VARCHAR(20). What you need to do is this:

ALTER TABLE YourTable
ALTER COLUMN Col1 VARCHAR(20)

That'll work without problems since the length of the column got bigger. If you wanted to change it to VARCHAR(5), then you'll first gonna need to make sure that there are not values with more chars on your column, otherwise that ALTER TABLE will fail.

Get selected key/value of a combo box using jQuery

I assume by "key" and "value" you mean:

<select>
    <option value="KEY">VALUE</option>
</select>

If that's the case, this will get you the "VALUE":

$(this).find('option:selected').text();

And you can get the "KEY" like this:

$(this).find('option:selected').val();

Read/Write String from/to a File in Android

check the below code.

Reading from a file in the filesystem.

FileInputStream fis = null;
    try {

        fis = context.openFileInput(fileName);
        InputStreamReader isr = new InputStreamReader(fis);
        // READ STRING OF UNKNOWN LENGTH
        StringBuilder sb = new StringBuilder();
        char[] inputBuffer = new char[2048];
        int l;
        // FILL BUFFER WITH DATA
        while ((l = isr.read(inputBuffer)) != -1) {
            sb.append(inputBuffer, 0, l);
        }
        // CONVERT BYTES TO STRING
        String readString = sb.toString();
        fis.close();

    catch (Exception e) {

    } finally {
        if (fis != null) {
            fis = null;
        }
    }

below code is to write the file in to internal filesystem.

FileOutputStream fos = null;
    try {

        fos = context.openFileOutput(fileName, Context.MODE_PRIVATE);
        fos.write(stringdatatobestoredinfile.getBytes());
        fos.flush();
        fos.close();

    } catch (Exception e) {

    } finally {
        if (fos != null) {
            fos = null;
        }
    }

I think this will help you.

Is there a query language for JSON?

Here's some simple javascript libraries that will also do the trick:

  • Dollar Q is a nice lightweight library. It has a familiar feel to the chaining syntax made popular by jQuery and is only 373 SLOC.
  • SpahQL is a fully featured query language with a syntax similar to XPath (Homepage, Github
  • jFunk is an in progress query language, with a syntax similar to CSS/jQuery selectors. It looked promising, but hasn't had any development beyond its in initial commit.

  • (added 2014): the jq command line tool has a neat syntax, but unfortunately it is a c library. Example usage:

    < package.json jq '.dependencies | to_entries | .[] | select(.value | startswith("git")) | .key'

JQuery post JSON object to a server

To send json to the server, you first have to create json

function sendData() {
    $.ajax({
        url: '/helloworld',
        type: 'POST',
        contentType: 'application/json',
        data: JSON.stringify({
            name:"Bob",
            ...
        }),
        dataType: 'json'
    });
}

This is how you would structure the ajax request to send the json as a post var.

function sendData() {
    $.ajax({
        url: '/helloworld',
        type: 'POST',
        data: { json: JSON.stringify({
            name:"Bob",
            ...
        })},
        dataType: 'json'
    });
}

The json will now be in the json post var.

Access PHP variable in JavaScript

I'm not sure how necessary this is, and it adds a call to getElementById, but if you're really keen on getting inline JavaScript out of your code, you can pass it as an HTML attribute, namely:

<span class="metadata" id="metadata-size-of-widget" title="<?php echo json_encode($size_of_widget) ?>"></span>

And then in your JavaScript:

var size_of_widget = document.getElementById("metadata-size-of-widget").title;

replacing text in a file with Python

This is a short and simple example I just used:

If:

fp = open("file.txt", "w")

Then:

fp.write(line.replace('is', 'now'))
// "This is me" becomes "This now me"

Not:

line.replace('is', 'now')
fp.write(line)
// "This is me" not changed while writing

How to print formatted BigDecimal values?

I know this question is very old, but I was making similar thing in my kotlin app recently. So here is an example if anyone needs it:

val dfs = DecimalFormatSymbols.getInstance(Locale.getDefault())
val bigD = BigDecimal("1e+30")
val formattedBigD = DecimalFormat("#,##0.#",dfs).format(bigD)

Result displaying $formattedBigD:

1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000

Automatically run %matplotlib inline in IPython Notebook

In your ipython_config.py file, search for the following lines

# c.InteractiveShellApp.matplotlib = None

and

# c.InteractiveShellApp.pylab = None

and uncomment them. Then, change None to the backend that you're using (I use 'qt4') and save the file. Restart IPython, and matplotlib and pylab should be loaded - you can use the dir() command to verify which modules are in the global namespace.

What is the effect of encoding an image in base64?

It will definitely cost you more space & bandwidth if you want to use base64 encoded images. However if your site has a lot of small images you can decrease the page loading time by encoding your images to base64 and placing them into html. In this way, the client browser wont need to make a lot of connections to the images, but will have them in html.

Prepend line to beginning of a file

The clear way to do this is as follows if you do not mind writing the file again

with open("a.txt", 'r+') as fp:
    lines = fp.readlines() # lines is list of line, each element '...\n'
    lines.insert(0, one_line) # you can use any index if you know the line index
    fp.seek(0) # file pointer locates at the beginning to write the whole file again
    fp.writelines(lines) # write whole lists again to the same file

Note that this is not in-place replacement. It's writing a file again.

In summary, you read a file and save it to a list and modify the list and write the list again to a new file with the same filename.

react button onClick redirect page

First, import it:

import { useHistory } from 'react-router-dom';

Then, in function or class:

const history = useHistory();

Finally, you put it in the onClick function:

<Button onClick={()=> history.push("/mypage")}>Click me!</Button>

How to disable button in React.js

You shouldn't be setting the value of the input through refs.

Take a look at the documentation for controlled form components here - https://facebook.github.io/react/docs/forms.html#controlled-components

In a nutshell

<input value={this.state.value} onChange={(e) => this.setState({value: e.target.value})} />

Then you will be able to control the disabled state by using disabled={!this.state.value}

TypeScript: Creating an empty typed container array

I know this is an old question but I recently faced a similar issue which couldn't be solved by this way, as I had to return an empty array of a specific type.

I had

return [];

where [] was Criminal[] type.

Neither return: Criminal[] []; nor return []: Criminal[]; worked for me.

At first glance I solved it by creating a typed variable (as you correctly reported) just before returning it, but (I don't know how JavaScript engines work) it may create overhead and it's less readable.

For thoroughness I'll report this solution in my answer too:

let temp: Criminal[] = [];
return temp;

Eventually I found TypeScript type casting, which allowed me to solve the problem in a more concise and readable (and maybe efficient) way:

return <Criminal[]>[];

Hope this will help future readers!

Iterating through map in template

As Herman pointed out, you can get the index and element from each iteration.

{{range $index, $element := .}}{{$index}}
{{range $element}}{{.Value}}
{{end}}
{{end}}

Working example:

package main

import (
    "html/template"
    "os"
)

type EntetiesClass struct {
    Name string
    Value int32
}

// In the template, we use rangeStruct to turn our struct values
// into a slice we can iterate over
var htmlTemplate = `{{range $index, $element := .}}{{$index}}
{{range $element}}{{.Value}}
{{end}}
{{end}}`

func main() {
    data := map[string][]EntetiesClass{
        "Yoga": {{"Yoga", 15}, {"Yoga", 51}},
        "Pilates": {{"Pilates", 3}, {"Pilates", 6}, {"Pilates", 9}},
    }

    t := template.New("t")
    t, err := t.Parse(htmlTemplate)
    if err != nil {
        panic(err)
    }

    err = t.Execute(os.Stdout, data)
    if err != nil {
        panic(err)
    }

}

Output:

Pilates
3
6
9

Yoga
15
51

I would use itertools.chain - this will also cater for > 1 element in each sublist:

from itertools import chain
list(chain.from_iterable([[180.0], [173.8], [164.2], [156.5], [147.2], [138.2]]))

Plot bar graph from Pandas DataFrame

To plot just a selection of your columns you can select the columns of interest by passing a list to the subscript operator:

ax = df[['V1','V2']].plot(kind='bar', title ="V comp", figsize=(15, 10), legend=True, fontsize=12)

What you tried was df['V1','V2'] this will raise a KeyError as correctly no column exists with that label, although it looks funny at first you have to consider that your are passing a list hence the double square brackets [[]].

import matplotlib.pyplot as plt
ax = df[['V1','V2']].plot(kind='bar', title ="V comp", figsize=(15, 10), legend=True, fontsize=12)
ax.set_xlabel("Hour", fontsize=12)
ax.set_ylabel("V", fontsize=12)
plt.show()

JQuery: Change value of hidden input field

Seems to work

$(".selector").change(function() {

    var $value = $(this).val();

    var $title = $(this).children('option[value='+$value+']').html();

    $('#bacon').val($title);

});

Just check with your firebug. And don't put css on hidden input.

javax.faces.application.ViewExpiredException: View could not be restored

I was getting this error : javax.faces.application.ViewExpiredException.When I using different requests, I found those having same JsessionId, even after restarting the server. So this is due to the browser cache. Just close the browser and try, it will work.

Why plt.imshow() doesn't display the image?

The solution was as simple as adding plt.show() at the end of the code snippet:

import numpy as np
np.random.seed(123)
from keras.models import Sequential
from keras.layers import Dense, Dropout, Activation, Flatten
from keras.layers import Convolution2D, MaxPooling2D
from keras.utils import np_utils
from keras.datasets import mnist
(X_train,y_train),(X_test,y_test) = mnist.load_data()
print X_train.shape
from matplotlib import pyplot as plt
plt.imshow(X_train[0])
plt.show()

Checkboxes in web pages – how to make them bigger?

Actually there is a way to make them bigger, checkboxes just like anything else (even an iframe like a facebook button).

Wrap them in a "zoomed" element:

_x000D_
_x000D_
.double {_x000D_
  zoom: 2;_x000D_
  transform: scale(2);_x000D_
  -ms-transform: scale(2);_x000D_
  -webkit-transform: scale(2);_x000D_
  -o-transform: scale(2);_x000D_
  -moz-transform: scale(2);_x000D_
  transform-origin: 0 0;_x000D_
  -ms-transform-origin: 0 0;_x000D_
  -webkit-transform-origin: 0 0;_x000D_
  -o-transform-origin: 0 0;_x000D_
  -moz-transform-origin: 0 0;_x000D_
}
_x000D_
<div class="double">_x000D_
  <input type="checkbox" name="hello" value="1">_x000D_
</div>
_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_

It might look a little bit "rescaled" but it works.

Of course you can make that div float:left and put your label besides it, float:left too.

</div>

/* css */

/* wraps fixed div to get desired fixed outcome */
.fix-my-fixed-div-to-its-parent-not-the-body
{
    float: right;
}

.im-fixed-within-my-container-div-zone
{
    position: fixed;

C++ code file extension? .cc vs .cpp

As others wrote before me, at the end its what being used by your project/team/company.

Personally, I am not using cc extension, I am trying to lower the number of extensions and not increase them, unless there's a clear value (in my opinion).

For what its worth, this is what I'm using:

c - Pure C code only, no classes or structs with methods.

cpp - C++ code

hpp - Headers only code. Implementations are in the headers (like template classes)

h - header files for both C/C++. I agree another distinction can be made, but as I wrote, I am trying to lower the number of extensions for simplicity. At least from the C++ projects I've worked in, h files for pure-C are more rare, therefore I did not want to add another extension.

CURL ERROR: Recv failure: Connection reset by peer - PHP Curl

We had the same issue, in making a websocket connection to the Load Balancer. The issue is in LB, accepting http connection on port 80 and forwarding the request to node (tomcat app on port 8080). We have changed this to accept tcp (http has been changed as 'tcp') connection on port 80. Accessing Session Using ASP.NET Web API

MVC

For an MVC project make the following changes (WebForms and Dot Net Core answer down below):

WebApiConfig.cs

public static class WebApiConfig
{
    public static string UrlPrefix         { get { return "api"; } }
    public static string UrlPrefixRelative { get { return "~/api"; } }

    public static void Register(HttpConfiguration config)
    {
        config.Routes.MapHttpRoute(
            name: "DefaultApi",
            routeTemplate: WebApiConfig.UrlPrefix + "/{controller}/{id}",
            defaults: new { id = RouteParameter.Optional }
        );
    }
}

Global.asax.cs

public class MvcApplication : System.Web.HttpApplication
{
    ...

    protected void Application_PostAuthorizeRequest()
    {
        if (IsWebApiRequest())
        {
            HttpContext.Current.SetSessionStateBehavior(SessionStateBehavior.Required);
        }
    }

    private bool IsWebApiRequest()
    {
        return HttpContext.Current.Request.AppRelativeCurrentExecutionFilePath.StartsWith(WebApiConfig.UrlPrefixRelative);
    }

}

This solution has the added bonus that we can fetch the base URL in javascript for making the AJAX calls:

_Layout.cshtml

<body>
    @RenderBody()

    <script type="text/javascript">
        var apiBaseUrl = '@Url.Content(ProjectNameSpace.WebApiConfig.UrlPrefixRelative)';
    </script>

    @RenderSection("scripts", required: false)

and then within our Javascript files/code we can make our webapi calls that can access the session:

$.getJSON(apiBaseUrl + '/MyApi')
   .done(function (data) {
       alert('session data received: ' + data.whatever);
   })
);

WebForms

Do the above but change the WebApiConfig.Register function to take a RouteCollection instead:

public static void Register(RouteCollection routes)
{
    routes.MapHttpRoute(
        name: "DefaultApi",
        routeTemplate: WebApiConfig.UrlPrefix + "/{controller}/{id}",
        defaults: new { id = RouteParameter.Optional }
    );
}

And then call the following in Application_Start:

WebApiConfig.Register(RouteTable.Routes);

Dot Net Core

Add the Microsoft.AspNetCore.Session NuGet package and then make the following code changes:

Startup.cs

Call the AddDistributedMemoryCache and AddSession methods on the services object within the ConfigureServices function:

public void ConfigureServices(IServiceCollection services)
{
    services.AddMvc();
    ...

    services.AddDistributedMemoryCache();
    services.AddSession();

and in the Configure function add a call to UseSession:

public void Configure(IApplicationBuilder app, IHostingEnvironment env,
ILoggerFactory loggerFactory)
{
    app.UseSession();
    app.UseMvc();

SessionController.cs

Within your controller, add a using statement at the top:

using Microsoft.AspNetCore.Http;

and then use the HttpContext.Session object within your code like so:

    [HttpGet("set/{data}")]
    public IActionResult setsession(string data)
    {
        HttpContext.Session.SetString("keyname", data);
        return Ok("session data set");
    }

    [HttpGet("get")]
    public IActionResult getsessiondata()
    {
        var sessionData = HttpContext.Session.GetString("keyname");
        return Ok(sessionData);
    }

you should now be able to hit:

http://localhost:1234/api/session/set/thisissomedata

and then going to this URL will pull it out:

http://localhost:1234/api/session/get

Plenty more info on accessing session data within dot net core here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/aspnet/core/fundamentals/app-state

Performance Concerns

Read Simon Weaver's answer below regarding performance. If you're accessing session data inside a WebApi project it can have very serious performance consequence - I have seen ASP.NET enforce a 200ms delay for concurrent requests. This could add up and become disastrous if you have many concurrent requests.

Security Concerns

Make sure you are locking down resources per user - an authenticated user shouldn't be able to retrieve data from your WebApi that they don't have access to.

Read Microsoft's article on Authentication and Authorization in ASP.NET Web API - https://www.asp.net/web-api/overview/security/authentication-and-authorization-in-aspnet-web-api

Read Microsoft's article on avoiding Cross-Site Request Forgery hack attacks. (In short, check out the AntiForgery.Validate method) - https://www.asp.net/web-api/overview/security/preventing-cross-site-request-forgery-csrf-attacks

Unicode characters in URLs

Depending on your URL scheme, you can make the UTF-8 encoded part "not important". For example, if you look at Stack Overflow URLs, they're of the following form:

http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2742852/unicode-characters-in-urls

However, the server doesn't actually care if you get the part after the identifier wrong, so this also works:

http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2742852/?????????????????

So if you had a layout like this, then you could potentially use UTF-8 in the part after the identifier and it wouldn't really matter if it got garbled. Of course this probably only works in somewhat specialised circumstances...

How do I keep track of pip-installed packages in an Anaconda (Conda) environment?

I followed @Viktor Kerkez's answer and have had mixed success. I found that sometimes this recipe of

conda skeleton pypi PACKAGE

conda build PACKAGE

would look like everything worked but I could not successfully import PACKAGE. Recently I asked about this on the Anaconda user group and heard from @Travis Oliphant himself on the best way to use conda to build and manage packages that do not ship with Anaconda. You can read this thread here, but I'll describe the approach below to hopefully make the answers to the OP's question more complete...

Example: I am going to install the excellent prettyplotlib package on Windows using conda 2.2.5.

1a) conda build --build-recipe prettyplotlib

You'll see the build messages all look good until the final TEST section of the build. I saw this error

File "C:\Anaconda\conda-bld\test-tmp_dir\run_test.py", line 23 import None SyntaxError: cannot assign to None TESTS FAILED: prettyplotlib-0.1.3-py27_0

1b) Go into /conda-recipes/prettyplotlib and edit the meta.yaml file. Presently, the packages being set up like in step 1a result in yaml files that have an error in the test section. For example, here is how mine looked for prettyplotlib

test:   # Python imports   imports:
    -
    - prettyplotlib
    - prettyplotlib

Edit this section to remove the blank line preceded by the - and also remove the redundant prettyplotlib line. At the time of this writing I have found that I need to edit most meta.yaml files like this for external packages I am installing with conda, meaning that there is a blank import line causing the error along with a redundant import of the given package.

1c) Rerun the command from 1a, which should complete with out error this time. At the end of the build you'll be asked if you want to upload the build to binstar. I entered No and then saw this message:

If you want to upload this package to binstar.org later, type:

$ binstar upload C:\Anaconda\conda-bld\win-64\prettyplotlib-0.1.3-py27_0.tar.bz2

That tar.bz2 file is the build that you now need to actually install.

2) conda install C:\Anaconda\conda-bld\win-64\prettyplotlib-0.1.3-py27_0.tar.bz2

Following these steps I have successfully used conda to install a number of packages that do not come with Anaconda. Previously, I had installed some of these using pip, so I did pip uninstall PACKAGE prior to installing PACKAGE with conda. Using conda, I can now manage (almost) all of my packages with a single approach rather than having a mix of stuff installed with conda, pip, easy_install, and python setup.py install.

For context, I think this recent blog post by @Travis Oliphant will be helpful for people like me who do not appreciate everything that goes into robust Python packaging but certainly appreciate when stuff "just works". conda seems like a great way forward...

How to run a SQL query on an Excel table?

If you need to do this once just follow Charles' descriptions, but it is also possible to do this with Excel formulas and helper columns in case you want to make the filter dynamic.

Lets assume you data is on the sheet DataSheet and starts in row 2 of the following columns:

  • A: lastname
  • B: firstname
  • C: phonenumber

You need two helper columns on this sheet.

  • D2: =if(A2 = "", 1, 0), this is the filter column, corresponding to your where condition
  • E2: =if(D2 <> 1, "", sumifs(D$2:D$1048576, A$2:A$1048576, "<"&A2) + sumifs(D$2:D2, A$2:A2, A2)), this corresponds to the order by

Copy down these formulas as far as your data goes.

On the sheet which should display your result create the following columns.

  • A: A sequence of numbers starting with 1 in row 2, this limits the total number of rows you can get (kind like a limit in sequel)
  • B2: =match(A2, DataSheet!$E$2:$E$1048576, 0), this is the row of the corresponding data
  • C2: =iferror(index(DataSheet!A$2:A$1048576, $B2), ""), this is the actual data or empty if no data exists

Copy down the formulas in B2 and C2 and copy-past column C to D and E.

Clone() vs Copy constructor- which is recommended in java

Great sadness: neither Cloneable/clone nor a constructor are great solutions: I DON'T WANT TO KNOW THE IMPLEMENTING CLASS!!! (e.g. - I have a Map, which I want copied, using the same hidden MumbleMap implementation) I just want to make a copy, if doing so is supported. But, alas, Cloneable doesn't have the clone method on it, so there is nothing to which you can safely type-cast on which to invoke clone().

Whatever the best "copy object" library out there is, Oracle should make it a standard component of the next Java release (unless it already is, hidden somewhere).

Of course, if more of the library (e.g. - Collections) were immutable, this "copy" task would just go away. But then we would start designing Java programs with things like "class invariants" rather than the verdammt "bean" pattern (make a broken object and mutate until good [enough]).

Java: Sending Multiple Parameters to Method

The solution depends on the answer to the question - are all the parameters going to be the same type and if so will each be treated the same?

If the parameters are not the same type or more importantly are not going to be treated the same then you should use method overloading:

public class MyClass
{
  public void doSomething(int i)
  {
    ...
  }

  public void doSomething(int i, String s)
  {
    ...
  }

  public void doSomething(int i, String s, boolean b)
  {
    ...
  }
}

If however each parameter is the same type and will be treated in the same way then you can use the variable args feature in Java:

public MyClass
{
  public void doSomething(int... integers)
  {
    for (int i : integers)
    {
      ...
    }
  }
}

Obviously when using variable args you can access each arg by its index but I would advise against this as in most cases it hints at a problem in your design. Likewise, if you find yourself doing type checks as you iterate over the arguments then your design needs a review.

How are parameters sent in an HTTP POST request?

You cannot type it directly on the browser URL bar.

You can see how POST data is sent on the Internet with Live HTTP Headers for example. Result will be something like that

http://127.0.0.1/pass.php
POST /pass.php HTTP/1.1

Host: 127.0.0.1
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:18.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/18.0
Accept: text/html,application/xhtml+xml,application/xml;q=0.9,*/*;q=0.8
Accept-Language: en-US,en;q=0.5
Accept-Encoding: gzip, deflate
DNT: 1
Referer: http://127.0.0.1/pass.php

Connection: keep-alive
Content-Type: application/x-www-form-urlencoded
Content-Length: 30

Where it says

Content-Length: 30
    username=zurfyx&pass=password

will be the post values.

Validate fields after user has left a field

Here is an example using ng-messages (available in angular 1.3) and a custom directive.

Validation message is displayed on blur for the first time user leaves the input field, but when he corrects the value, validation message is removed immediately (not on blur anymore).

JavaScript

myApp.directive("validateOnBlur", [function() {
    var ddo = {
        restrict: "A",
        require: "ngModel",
        scope: {},
        link: function(scope, element, attrs, modelCtrl) {
            element.on('blur', function () {
                modelCtrl.$showValidationMessage = modelCtrl.$dirty;
                scope.$apply();
            });
        }
    };
    return ddo;
}]);

HTML

<form name="person">
    <input type="text" ng-model="item.firstName" name="firstName"
        ng-minlength="3" ng-maxlength="20" validate-on-blur required />
    <div ng-show="person.firstName.$showValidationMessage" ng-messages="person.firstName.$error">
        <span ng-message="required">name is required</span>
        <span ng-message="minlength">name is too short</span>
        <span ng-message="maxlength">name is too long</span>
    </div>
</form>

PS. Don't forget to download and include ngMessages in your module:

var myApp = angular.module('myApp', ['ngMessages']);

Error inflating class fragment

If you are adding Fragment statically that is, in xml, then you might have missed to implement OnFragmentInteractionListener in your Activity class. Then the interface implementation would solve the problem. If you are adding Fragment dynamically, that is, in java class then this is not the solution. Because IDE itself will not allow you to proceed without implementing required interfaces.

glob exclude pattern

You can't exclude patterns with the glob function, globs only allow for inclusion patterns. Globbing syntax is very limited (even a [!..] character class must match a character, so it is an inclusion pattern for every character that is not in the class).

You'll have to do your own filtering; a list comprehension usually works nicely here:

files = [fn for fn in glob('somepath/*.txt')
         if not os.path.basename(fn).startswith('eph')]

JSON Naming Convention (snake_case, camelCase or PascalCase)

I think that there isn't a official naming convention to JSON, but you can follow some industry leaders to see how it is working.

Google, which is one of the biggest IT company of the world, has a JSON style guide: https://google.github.io/styleguide/jsoncstyleguide.xml

Taking advantage, you can find other styles guide, which Google defines, here: https://github.com/google/styleguide

jquery.ajax Access-Control-Allow-Origin

http://encosia.com/using-cors-to-access-asp-net-services-across-domains/

refer the above link for more details on Cross domain resource sharing.

you can try using JSONP . If the API is not supporting jsonp, you have to create a service which acts as a middleman between the API and your client. In my case, i have created a asmx service.

sample below:

ajax call:

$(document).ready(function () {
        $.ajax({
            crossDomain: true,
            type:"GET",
            contentType: "application/json; charset=utf-8",
            async:false,
            url: "<your middle man service url here>/GetQuote?callback=?",
            data: { symbol: 'ctsh' },
            dataType: "jsonp",
            jsonpCallback: 'fnsuccesscallback'
        });
    });

service (asmx) which will return jsonp:

[WebMethod]
    [ScriptMethod(UseHttpGet = true, ResponseFormat = ResponseFormat.Json)]
    public void GetQuote(String symbol,string callback)
    {

        WebProxy myProxy = new WebProxy("<proxy url here>", true);

        myProxy.Credentials = new System.Net.NetworkCredential("username", "password", "domain");
        StockQuoteProxy.StockQuote SQ = new StockQuoteProxy.StockQuote();
        SQ.Proxy = myProxy;
        String result = SQ.GetQuote(symbol);
        StringBuilder sb = new StringBuilder();
        JavaScriptSerializer js = new JavaScriptSerializer();
        sb.Append(callback + "(");
        sb.Append(js.Serialize(result));
        sb.Append(");");
        Context.Response.Clear();
        Context.Response.ContentType = "application/json";
        Context.Response.Write(sb.ToString());

Get the _id of inserted document in Mongo database in NodeJS

A shorter way than using second parameter for the callback of collection.insert would be using objectToInsert._id that returns the _id (inside of the callback function, supposing it was a successful operation).

The Mongo driver for NodeJS appends the _id field to the original object reference, so it's easy to get the inserted id using the original object:

collection.insert(objectToInsert, function(err){
   if (err) return;
   // Object inserted successfully.
   var objectId = objectToInsert._id; // this will return the id of object inserted
});

Jenkins CI: How to trigger builds on SVN commit

You need to require only one plugin which is the Subversion plugin.

Then simply, go into Jenkins ? job_name ? Build Trigger section ? (i) Trigger build remotely (i.e., from scripts) Authentication token: Token_name

Go to the SVN server's hooks directory, and then after fire the below commands:

  1. cp post-commit.tmpl post-commit
  2. chmod 777 post-commit
  3. chown -R www-data:www-data post-commit
  4. vi post-commit

    Note: All lines should be commented Add the below line at last

Syntax (for Linux users):

/usr/bin/curl http://username:API_token@localhost:8081/job/job_name/build?token=Token_name

Syntax (for Windows user):

C:/curl_for_win/curl http://username:API_token@localhost:8081/job/job_name/build?token=Token_name

No.

A developer is responsible for keeping track of time-zone information associated with a DateTime value via some external mechanism.

How to write string literals in python without having to escape them?

You will find Python's string literal documentation here:

http://docs.python.org/tutorial/introduction.html#strings

and here:

http://docs.python.org/reference/lexical_analysis.html#literals

The simplest example would be using the 'r' prefix:

ss = r'Hello\nWorld'
print(ss)
Hello\nWorld

Laravel Eloquent where field is X or null

Using coalesce() converts null to 0:

$query = Model::where('field1', 1)
    ->whereNull('field2')
    ->where(DB::raw('COALESCE(datefield_at,0)'), '<', $date)
;

Looking for simple Java in-memory cache

You can easily use imcache. A sample code is below.

void example(){
    Cache<Integer,Integer> cache = CacheBuilder.heapCache().
    cacheLoader(new CacheLoader<Integer, Integer>() {
        public Integer load(Integer key) {
            return null;
        }
    }).capacity(10000).build();
}

Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read property 'split' of undefined

og_date = "2012-10-01";
console.log(og_date); // => "2012-10-01"

console.log(og_date.split('-')); // => [ '2012', '10', '01' ]

og_date.value would only work if the date were stored as a property on the og_date object. Such as: var og_date = {}; og_date.value="2012-10-01"; In that case, your original console.log would work.

Curl setting Content-Type incorrectly

I think you want to specify

-H "Content-Type:text/xml"

with a colon, not an equals.

Select row with most recent date per user

I have done same thing like below

SELECT t1.* FROM lms_attendance t1 WHERE t1.id in (SELECT max(t2.id) as id FROM lms_attendance t2 group BY t2.user)

This will also reduce memory utilization.

Thanks.

Why are the Level.FINE logging messages not showing?

WHY

As mentioned by @Sheepy, the reason why it doesn't work is that java.util.logging.Logger has a root logger that defaults to Level.INFO, and the ConsoleHandler attached to that root logger also defaults to Level.INFO. Therefore, in order to see the FINE (, FINER or FINEST) output, you need to set the default value of the root logger and its ConsoleHandler to Level.FINE as follows:

Logger.getLogger("").setLevel(Level.FINE);
Logger.getLogger("").getHandlers()[0].setLevel(Level.FINE);

The problem of your Update (solution)

As mentioned by @mins, you will have the messages printed twice on the console for INFO and above: first by the anonymous logger, then by its parent, the root logger which also has a ConsoleHandler set to INFO by default. To disable the root logger, you need to add this line of code: logger.setUseParentHandlers(false);

There are other ways to prevent logs from being processed by default Console handler of the root logger mentioned by @Sheepy, e.g.:

Logger.getLogger("").getHandlers()[0].setLevel( Level.OFF );

But Logger.getLogger("").setLevel( Level.OFF ); won't work because it only blocks the message passed directly to the root logger, not the message comes from a child logger. To illustrate how the Logger Hierarchy works, I draw the following diagram:

enter image description here

public void setLevel(Level newLevel) set the log level specifying which message levels will be logged by this logger. Message levels lower than this value will be discarded. The level value Level.OFF can be used to turn off logging. If the new level is null, it means that this node should inherit its level from its nearest ancestor with a specific (non-null) level value.

Returning pointer from a function

Although returning a pointer to a local object is bad practice, it didn't cause the kaboom here. Here's why you got a segfault:

int *fun()
{
    int *point;
    *point=12; <<<<<< your program crashed here.
    return point;
}

The local pointer goes out of scope, but the real issue is dereferencing a pointer that was never initialized. What is the value of point? Who knows. If the value did not map to a valid memory location, you will get a SEGFAULT. If by luck it mapped to something valid, then you just corrupted memory by overwriting that place with your assignment to 12.

Since the pointer returned was immediately used, in this case you could get away with returning a local pointer. However, it is bad practice because if that pointer was reused after another function call reused that memory in the stack, the behavior of the program would be undefined.

int *fun()
{
    int point;
    point = 12;
    return (&point);
}

or almost identically:

int *fun()
{
    int point;
    int *point_ptr;
    point_ptr = &point;
    *point_ptr = 12;
    return (point_ptr);
}

Another bad practice but safer method would be to declare the integer value as a static variable, and it would then not be on the stack and would be safe from being used by another function:

int *fun()
{
    static int point;
    int *point_ptr;
    point_ptr = &point;
    *point_ptr = 12;
    return (point_ptr);
}

or

int *fun()
{
    static int point;
    point = 12;
    return (&point);
}

As others have mentioned, the "right" way to do this would be to allocate memory on the heap, via malloc.

How can I send large messages with Kafka (over 15MB)?

The answer from @laughing_man is quite accurate. But still, I wanted to give a recommendation which I learned from Kafka expert Stephane Maarek.

Kafka isn’t meant to handle large messages.

Your API should use cloud storage (Ex AWS S3), and just push to Kafka or any message broker a reference of S3. You must find somewhere to persist your data, maybe it’s a network drive, maybe it’s whatever, but it shouldn't be message broker.

Now, if you don’t want to go with the above solution

The message max size is 1MB (the setting in your brokers is called message.max.bytes) Apache Kafka. If you really needed it badly, you could increase that size and make sure to increase the network buffers for your producers and consumers.

And if you really care about splitting your message, make sure each message split has the exact same key so that it gets pushed to the same partition, and your message content should report a “part id” so that your consumer can fully reconstruct the message.

You can also explore compression, if your message is text-based (gzip, snappy, lz4 compression) which may reduce the data size, but not magically.

Again, you have to use an external system to store that data and just push an external reference to Kafka. That is a very common architecture and one you should go with and widely accepted.

Keep that in mind Kafka works best only if the messages are huge in amount but not in size.

Changing the URL in react-router v4 without using Redirect or Link

React Router v4

There's a couple of things that I needed to get this working smoothly.

The doc page on auth workflow has quite a lot of what is required.

However I had three issues

  1. Where does the props.history come from?
  2. How do I pass it through to my component which isn't directly inside the Route component
  3. What if I want other props?

I ended up using:

  1. option 2 from an answer on 'Programmatically navigate using react router' - i.e. to use <Route render> which gets you props.history which can then be passed down to the children.
  2. Use the render={routeProps => <MyComponent {...props} {routeProps} />} to combine other props from this answer on 'react-router - pass props to handler component'

N.B. With the render method you have to pass through the props from the Route component explicitly. You also want to use render and not component for performance reasons (component forces a reload every time).

const App = (props) => (
    <Route
        path="/home"
        render={routeProps => <MyComponent {...props} {...routeProps}>}
    />
)

const MyComponent = (props) => (
    /**
     * @link https://reacttraining.com/react-router/web/example/auth-workflow
     * N.B. I use `props.history` instead of `history`
     */
    <button onClick={() => {
        fakeAuth.signout(() => props.history.push('/foo'))
    }}>Sign out</button>
)

One of the confusing things I found is that in quite a few of the React Router v4 docs they use MyComponent = ({ match }) i.e. Object destructuring, which meant initially I didn't realise that Route passes down three props, match, location and history

I think some of the other answers here are assuming that everything is done via JavaScript classes.

Here's an example, plus if you don't need to pass any props through you can just use component

class App extends React.Component {
    render () {
        <Route
            path="/home"
            component={MyComponent}
        />
    }
}

class MyComponent extends React.Component {
    render () {
        /**
         * @link https://reacttraining.com/react-router/web/example/auth-workflow
         * N.B. I use `props.history` instead of `history`
         */
        <button onClick={() => {
            this.fakeAuth.signout(() => this.props.history.push('/foo'))
        }}>Sign out</button>
    }
}

In your test, you are comparing the two TestParent beans, not the single TestedChild bean.

Also, Spring proxies your @Configuration class so that when you call one of the @Bean annotated methods, it caches the result and always returns the same object on future calls.

XmlSerializer giving FileNotFoundException at constructor

Function XmlSerializer.FromTypes does not throw the exception, but it leaks the memory. Thats why you need to cache such serializer for every type to avoid memory leaking for every instance created.

Create your own XmlSerializer factory and use it simply:

XmlSerializer serializer = XmlSerializerFactoryNoThrow.Create(typeof(MyType));

The factory looks likes:

public static class XmlSerializerFactoryNoThrow
{
    public static Dictionary<Type, XmlSerializer> _cache = new Dictionary<Type, XmlSerializer>();

    private static object SyncRootCache = new object();

    /// <summary>
    /// //the constructor XmlSerializer.FromTypes does not throw exception, but it is said that it causes memory leaks
    /// http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1127431/xmlserializer-giving-filenotfoundexception-at-constructor
    /// That is why I use dictionary to cache the serializers my self.
    /// </summary>
    public static XmlSerializer Create(Type type)
    {
        XmlSerializer serializer;

        lock (SyncRootCache)
        {
            if (_cache.TryGetValue(type, out serializer))
                return serializer;
        }

        lock (type) //multiple variable of type of one type is same instance
        {
            //constructor XmlSerializer.FromTypes does not throw the first chance exception
            serializer = XmlSerializer.FromTypes(new[] { type })[0];
            //serializer = XmlSerializerFactoryNoThrow.Create(type);
        }

        lock (SyncRootCache)
        {
            _cache[type] = serializer;
        }
        return serializer;
    }
}

More complicated version without possibility of memory leak (please someone review the code):

    public static XmlSerializer Create(Type type)
    {
        XmlSerializer serializer;

        lock (SyncRootCache)
        {
            if (_cache.TryGetValue(type, out serializer))
                return serializer;
        }

        lock (type) //multiple variable of type of one type is same instance
        {
            lock (SyncRootCache)
            {
                if (_cache.TryGetValue(type, out serializer))
                    return serializer;
            }
            serializer = XmlSerializer.FromTypes(new[] { type })[0];
            lock (SyncRootCache)
            {
                _cache[type] = serializer;
            }
        }
        return serializer;
    }
}

C pointers and arrays: [Warning] assignment makes pointer from integer without a cast

int[] and int* are represented the same way, except int[] allocates (IIRC).

ap is a pointer, therefore giving it the value of an integer is dangerous, as you have no idea what's at address 45.

when you try to access it (x = *ap), you try to access address 45, which causes the crash, as it probably is not a part of the memory you can access.

How to change a dataframe column from String type to Double type in PySpark?

toDoublefunc = UserDefinedFunction(lambda x: float(x),DoubleType())
changedTypedf = joindf.withColumn("label",toDoublefunc(joindf['show']))

Search for all occurrences of a string in a mysql database

Not an elegant solution, but you could achieve it with a nested looping structure

// select tables from database and store in an array

// loop through the array
foreach table in database
{
    // select columns in the table and store in an array

    // loop through the array
    foreach column in table
    {
        // select * from table where column = url
    }
}

You could probably speed this up by checking which columns contain strings while building your column array, and also by combining all the columns per table in one giant, comma-separated WHERE clause.

how to call javascript function in html.actionlink in asp.net mvc?

you need to use the htmlAttributes anonymous object, like this:

<%= Html.ActionLink("linky", "action", "controller", new { id = "myLink" }) %>

$('#myLink').click(function() { /* bla */ });

Wait until page is loaded with Selenium WebDriver for Python

Have you tried driver.implicitly_wait. It is like a setting for the driver, so you only call it once in the session and it basically tells the driver to wait the given amount of time until each command can be executed.

driver = webdriver.Chrome()
driver.implicitly_wait(10)

So if you set a wait time of 10 seconds it will execute the command as soon as possible, waiting 10 seconds before it gives up. I've used this in similar scroll-down scenarios so I don't see why it wouldn't work in your case. Hope this is helpful.

To be able to fix this answer, I have to add new text. Be sure to use a lower case 'w' in implicitly_wait.
