Programs & Examples On #Covariant

Jenkins CI Pipeline Scripts not permitted to use method groovy.lang.GroovyObject

I ran into this when I reduced the number of user-input parameters in userInput from 3 to 1. This changed the variable output type of userInput from an array to a primitive.

Example:

myvar1 = userInput['param1']
myvar2 = userInput['param2']

to:

myvar = userInput

How to check if array element exists or not in javascript?

I had to wrap techfoobar's answer in a try..catch block, like so:

try {
  if(typeof arrayName[index] == 'undefined') {
    // does not exist
  }
  else {
  // does exist
  }
}
catch (error){ /* ignore */ }

...that's how it worked in chrome, anyway (otherwise, the code stopped with an error).

Disable submit button on form submit

Do it onSubmit():

$('form#id').submit(function(){
    $(this).find(':input[type=submit]').prop('disabled', true);
});

What is happening is you're disabling the button altogether before it actually triggers the submit event.

You should probably also think about naming your elements with IDs or CLASSes, so you don't select all inputs of submit type on the page.

Demonstration: http://jsfiddle.net/userdude/2hgnZ/

(Note, I use preventDefault() and return false so the form doesn't actual submit in the example; leave this off in your use.)

what is the use of annotations @Id and @GeneratedValue(strategy = GenerationType.IDENTITY)? Why the generationtype is identity?

In a Object Relational Mapping context, every object needs to have a unique identifier. You use the @Id annotation to specify the primary key of an entity.

The @GeneratedValue annotation is used to specify how the primary key should be generated. In your example you are using an Identity strategy which

Indicates that the persistence provider must assign primary keys for the entity using a database identity column.

There are other strategies, you can see more here.

Which comes first in a 2D array, rows or columns?

In c++ (distant, dusty memory) I think it was a little easier to look at the code and understand arrays than it is in Java sometimes. Both are row major. This illustration worked for me in helping to understand.

Given this code for a 2d array of strings...

    String[][] messages;
    messages = new String[][] {
        {"CAT","DOG","YIN","BLACK","HIGH","DAY"},
        {"kitten","puppy","yang","white","low","night"}
    };

    int row = messages.length;
    int col = messages[0].length;

Naming my ints as if it were a 2d array (row, col) we see the values.

row = (int) 2
col = (int) 6

The last two lines of code, where we try to determine size and set them to row and col does not look all that intuitive and its not necessarily right.

What youre really dealing with here is this (note new variable names to illustrate):

int numOfArraysIn = messages.length;
int numOfElementsIn0 = messages[0].length;
int numOfElementsIn1 = messages[1].length;

Where messages.length tells you messages holds two arrays. An array of arrays.

AND then messages[x].length yields the size of each of the individual arrays 0 1 inside messages.

numOfArraysIn = (int) 2
numOfElementsIn0 = (int) 6
numOfElementsIn1 = (int) 6

When we print with a for each loop....

for (String str : messages[0])
        System.out.print(str);
for (String str : messages[1])
        System.out.print(str);

CATDOGYINBLACKHIGHDAYkittenpuppyyangwhitelownight

Trying to drop the brackets and print like this gives an error

for (String str : messages)
        System.out.print(str);

incompatible types: String[] cannot be converted to String

The above is important to understand while setting up loops that use .length to limit the step thru the array.

What ports does RabbitMQ use?

PORT 4369: Erlang makes use of a Port Mapper Daemon (epmd) for resolution of node names in a cluster. Nodes must be able to reach each other and the port mapper daemon for clustering to work.

PORT 35197 set by inet_dist_listen_min/max Firewalls must permit traffic in this range to pass between clustered nodes

RabbitMQ Management console:

  • PORT 15672 for RabbitMQ version 3.x
  • PORT 55672 for RabbitMQ pre 3.x

PORT 5672 RabbitMQ main port.

For a cluster of nodes, they must be open to each other on 35197, 4369 and 5672.

For any servers that want to use the message queue, only 5672 is required.

What's the point of the X-Requested-With header?

A good reason is for security - this can prevent CSRF attacks because this header cannot be added to the AJAX request cross domain without the consent of the server via CORS.

Only the following headers are allowed cross domain:

  • Accept
  • Accept-Language
  • Content-Language
  • Last-Event-ID
  • Content-Type

any others cause a "pre-flight" request to be issued in CORS supported browsers.

Without CORS it is not possible to add X-Requested-With to a cross domain XHR request.

If the server is checking that this header is present, it knows that the request didn't initiate from an attacker's domain attempting to make a request on behalf of the user with JavaScript. This also checks that the request wasn't POSTed from a regular HTML form, of which it is harder to verify it is not cross domain without the use of tokens. (However, checking the Origin header could be an option in supported browsers, although you will leave old browsers vulnerable.)

New Flash bypass discovered

You may wish to combine this with a token, because Flash running on Safari on OSX can set this header if there's a redirect step. It appears it also worked on Chrome, but is now remediated. More details here including different versions affected.

OWASP Recommend combining this with an Origin and Referer check:

This defense technique is specifically discussed in section 4.3 of Robust Defenses for Cross-Site Request Forgery. However, bypasses of this defense using Flash were documented as early as 2008 and again as recently as 2015 by Mathias Karlsson to exploit a CSRF flaw in Vimeo. But, we believe that the Flash attack can't spoof the Origin or Referer headers so by checking both of them we believe this combination of checks should prevent Flash bypass CSRF attacks. (NOTE: If anyone can confirm or refute this belief, please let us know so we can update this article)

However, for the reasons already discussed checking Origin can be tricky.

getString Outside of a Context or Activity

Unfortunately, the only way you can access any of the string resources is with a Context (i.e. an Activity or Service). What I've usually done in this case, is to simply require the caller to pass in the context.

What is the correct way to read a serial port using .NET framework?

Could you try something like this for example I think what you are wanting to utilize is the port.ReadExisting() Method

 using System;
 using System.IO.Ports;

 class SerialPortProgram
 {
  // Create the serial port with basic settings
    private SerialPort port = new SerialPort("COM1",
      9600, Parity.None, 8, StopBits.One);
    [STAThread]
    static void Main(string[] args)
    {
      // Instatiate this
      SerialPortProgram();
    }

    private static void SerialPortProgram()
    {
        Console.WriteLine("Incoming Data:");
         // Attach a method to be called when there
         // is data waiting in the port's buffer
        port.DataReceived += new SerialDataReceivedEventHandler(port_DataReceived);
        // Begin communications
        port.Open();
        // Enter an application loop to keep this thread alive
        Console.ReadLine();
     }

    private void port_DataReceived(object sender, SerialDataReceivedEventArgs e)
    {
       // Show all the incoming data in the port's buffer
       Console.WriteLine(port.ReadExisting());
    }
}

Or is you want to do it based on what you were trying to do , you can try this

public class MySerialReader : IDisposable
{
  private SerialPort serialPort;
  private Queue<byte> recievedData = new Queue<byte>();

  public MySerialReader()
  {
    serialPort = new SerialPort();
    serialPort.Open();
    serialPort.DataReceived += serialPort_DataReceived;
  }

  void serialPort_DataReceived(object s, SerialDataReceivedEventArgs e)
  {
    byte[] data = new byte[serialPort.BytesToRead];
    serialPort.Read(data, 0, data.Length);
    data.ToList().ForEach(b => recievedData.Enqueue(b));
    processData();
  }

  void processData()
  {
    // Determine if we have a "packet" in the queue
    if (recievedData.Count > 50)
    {
        var packet = Enumerable.Range(0, 50).Select(i => recievedData.Dequeue());
    }
  }

  public void Dispose()
  {
        if (serialPort != null)
        {
            serialPort.Dispose();
        }
  }

How to print jquery object/array

What you have from the server is a string like below:

var data = '[{"id":"197","category":"Damskie"},{"id":"198","category":"M\u0119skie"}]';

Then you can use JSON.parse function to change it to an object. Then you access the category like below:

var dataObj = JSON.parse(data);

console.log(dataObj[0].category); //will return Damskie
console.log(dataObj[1].category); //will return Meskie

Alter column in SQL Server

To set a default value to a column, try this:

ALTER TABLE tb_TableName
ALTER COLUMN Record_Status SET DEFAULT 'default value'

Batch file to move files to another directory

/q isn't a valid parameter. /y: Suppresses prompting to confirm overwriting

Also ..\txt means directory txt under the parent directory, not the root directory. The root directory would be: \ And please mention the error you get

Try:

move files\*.txt \

Edit: Try:

move \files\*.txt \

Edit 2:

move C:\files\*.txt C:\txt

Implement paging (skip / take) functionality with this query

In order to do this in SQL Server, you must order the query by a column, so you can specify the rows you want.

Example:

select * from table order by [some_column]
offset 10 rows
FETCH NEXT 10 rows only

And you can't use the "TOP" keyword when doing this.

How to copy std::string into std::vector<char>?

You need a back inserter to copy into vectors:

std::copy(str.c_str(), str.c_str()+str.length(), back_inserter(data));

Loop through all elements in XML using NodeList

Here is another way to loop through XML elements using JDOM.

        List<Element> nodeNodes = inputNode.getChildren();
        if (nodeNodes != null) {
            for (Element nodeNode : nodeNodes) {
                List<Element> elements = nodeNode.getChildren(elementName);
                if (elements != null) {
                    elements.size();
                    nodeNodes.removeAll(elements);
                }
            }

PivotTable to show values, not sum of values

Another easier way to do it is to upload your file to google sheets, then add a pivot, for the columns and rows select the same as you would with Excel, however, for values select Calculated Field and then in the formula type in =

In my case the column header is URL

Import-Module : The specified module 'activedirectory' was not loaded because no valid module file was found in any module directory

This may be an old post, but if anyone is still facing this issue after trying all the above mentioned steps, ensure whether the default path of PowerShell module is specified under the "PSModulePath" environment variable.

The default path should be "%SystemRoot%\system32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\Modules\"

How to run eclipse in clean mode? what happens if we do so?

This will clean the caches used to store bundle dependency resolution and eclipse extension registry data. Using this option will force eclipse to reinitialize these caches.

  1. Open command prompt (cmd)
  2. Go to eclipse application location (D:\eclipse)
  3. Run command eclipse -clean

Very Simple, Very Smooth, JavaScript Marquee

The following works:

http://jsfiddle.net/xAGRJ/4/

The problem with your original code was you are calling scrollticker() by passing a string to setInterval, where you should just pass the function name and treat it as a variable:

lefttime = setInterval(scrollticker, 50);

instead of

lefttime = setInterval("scrollticker()", 50);

How to retrieve the LoaderException property?

Another Alternative for those who are probing around and/or in interactive mode:

$Error[0].Exception.LoaderExceptions

Note: [0] grabs the most recent Error from the stack

Creating a file name as a timestamp in a batch job

This worked for me and was a filename-safe solution (though it generates a MM-dd-YYYY format):

C:\ set SAVESTAMP=%DATE:/=-%@%TIME::=-%
C:\ set SAVESTAMP=%SAVESTAMP: =%
C:\ set SAVESTAMP=%SAVESTAMP:,=.%.jpg
C:\ echo %SAVESTAMP%
[email protected]

The first command takes a DATE and replaces / with -, takes the TIME and replaces : with -, and combines them into DATE@TIME format. The second set statement removes any spaces, and the third set replaces , with . and appends the .jpg extension.

The above code is used in a little script that pulls images from a security IP Camera for further processing:

:while
set SAVESTAMP=%DATE:/=-%@%TIME::=-%
set SAVESTAMP=%SAVESTAMP: =%
set SAVESTAMP=%SAVESTAMP:,=.%.jpg
wget-1.10.2.exe --tries=0 -O %SAVESTAMP% http://admin:<password>@<ip address>:<port>/snapshot.cgi
timeout 1
GOTO while

How do I modify a MySQL column to allow NULL?

You want the following:

ALTER TABLE mytable MODIFY mycolumn VARCHAR(255);

Columns are nullable by default. As long as the column is not declared UNIQUE or NOT NULL, there shouldn't be any problems.

How to set a binding in Code?

Replace:

myBinding.Source = ViewModel.SomeString;

with:

myBinding.Source = ViewModel;

Example:

Binding myBinding = new Binding();
myBinding.Source = ViewModel;
myBinding.Path = new PropertyPath("SomeString");
myBinding.Mode = BindingMode.TwoWay;
myBinding.UpdateSourceTrigger = UpdateSourceTrigger.PropertyChanged;
BindingOperations.SetBinding(txtText, TextBox.TextProperty, myBinding);

Your source should be just ViewModel, the .SomeString part is evaluated from the Path (the Path can be set by the constructor or by the Path property).

What is a callback function?

Callback Function A function which passed to another function as an argument.

function test_function(){
 alert("Hello world");
}

setTimeout(test_function, 2000);

Note: In above example test_function used as an argument for setTimeout function.

How to encode Doctrine entities to JSON in Symfony 2.0 AJAX application?

If you are using Symfony 2.7 or above, and don't want to include any additional bundle for serializing, maybe you can follow this way to seialize doctrine entities to json -

  1. In my (common, parent) controller, I have a function that prepares the serializer

    use Symfony\Component\Serializer\Encoder\JsonEncoder;
    use Symfony\Component\Serializer\Mapping\Factory\ClassMetadataFactory;
    use Symfony\Component\Serializer\Mapping\Loader\AnnotationLoader;
    use Symfony\Component\Serializer\Normalizer\ObjectNormalizer;
    use Symfony\Component\Serializer\Serializer;

    // -----------------------------

    /**
     * @return Serializer
     */
    protected function _getSerializer()
    {
        $classMetadataFactory = new ClassMetadataFactory(new AnnotationLoader(new AnnotationReader()));
        $normalizer           = new ObjectNormalizer($classMetadataFactory);

        return new Serializer([$normalizer], [new JsonEncoder()]);
    }

  2. Then use it to serialize Entities to JSON

    $this->_getSerializer()->normalize($anEntity, 'json');
    $this->_getSerializer()->normalize($arrayOfEntities, 'json');

Done!

But you may need some fine tuning. For example -

How to picture "for" loop in block representation of algorithm

Here's a flow chart that illustrates a for loop:

Flow Chart For Loop

The equivalent C code would be

for(i = 2; i <= 6; i = i + 2) {
    printf("%d\t", i + 1);
}

I found this and several other examples on one of Tenouk's C Laboratory practice worksheets.

Can I call a constructor from another constructor (do constructor chaining) in C++?

If I understand your question correctly, you're asking if you can call multiple constructors in C++?

If that's what you're looking for, then no - that is not possible.

You certainly can have multiple constructors, each with unique argument signatures, and then call the one you want when you instantiate a new object.

You can even have one constructor with defaulted arguments on the end.

But you may not have multiple constructors, and then call each of them separately.

Eclipse: How to install a plugin manually?

  1. Download your plugin
  2. Open Eclipse
  3. From the menu choose: Help / Install New Software...
  4. Click the Add button
  5. In the Add Repository dialog that appears, click the Archive button next to the Location field
  6. Select your plugin file, click OK

You could also just copy plugins to the eclipse/plugins directory, but it's not recommended.

Retrieving a random item from ArrayList

Here you go, using Generics:

private <T> T getRandomItem(List<T> list)
{
    Random random = new Random();
    int listSize = list.size();
    int randomIndex = random.nextInt(listSize);
    return list.get(randomIndex);
}

JavaScript closure inside loops – simple practical example

While this question is old and answered, I have yet another fairly interesting solution:

var funcs = [];

for (var i = 0; i < 3; i++) {
  funcs[i] = function() {
    console.log("My value: " + i);
 };
}

for (var i = 0; i < 3; i++) {
  funcs[i]();
}

The change is so small it's almost difficult to see what I did. I switched the second iterator from a j to an i. This somehow refreshes the state of i in time to give you the desired result. I did this by accident but it makes sense considering previous answers.

I wrote this up to point out this small, yet very important difference. Hope that helps to clear up some confusion for other learners like me.

Note: I am not sharing this because I think it's the right answer. This is a flakey solution that probably will break under certain circumstances. Actually, I'm quite amazed that it really works.

Mockito test a void method throws an exception

The parentheses are poorly placed.

You need to use:

doThrow(new Exception()).when(mockedObject).methodReturningVoid(...);
                                          ^

and NOT use:

doThrow(new Exception()).when(mockedObject.methodReturningVoid(...));
                                                                   ^

This is explained in the documentation

Broadcast Receiver within a Service

as your service is already setup, simply add a broadcast receiver in your service:

private final BroadcastReceiver receiver = new BroadcastReceiver() {
   @Override
   public void onReceive(Context context, Intent intent) {
      String action = intent.getAction();
      if(action.equals("android.provider.Telephony.SMS_RECEIVED")){
        //action for sms received
      }
      else if(action.equals(android.telephony.TelephonyManager.ACTION_PHONE_STATE_CHANGED)){
           //action for phone state changed
      }
   }
};

in your service's onCreate do this:

IntentFilter filter = new IntentFilter();
filter.addAction("android.provider.Telephony.SMS_RECEIVED");
filter.addAction(android.telephony.TelephonyManager.ACTION_PHONE_STATE_CHANGED);
filter.addAction("your_action_strings"); //further more
filter.addAction("your_action_strings"); //further more

registerReceiver(receiver, filter);

and in your service's onDestroy:

unregisterReceiver(receiver);

and you are good to go to receive broadcast for what ever filters you mention in onCreate. Make sure to add any permission if required. for e.g.

<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.RECEIVE_SMS" />

Change auto increment starting number?

just export the table with data .. then copy its sql like

CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS `employees` (
  `emp_badgenumber` int(20) NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT,
  `emp_fullname` varchar(100) NOT NULL,
  `emp_father_name` varchar(30) NOT NULL,
  `emp_mobile` varchar(20) DEFAULT NULL,
  `emp_cnic` varchar(20) DEFAULT NULL,
  `emp_gender` varchar(10) NOT NULL,
  `emp_is_deleted` tinyint(4) DEFAULT '0',
  `emp_registration_date` timestamp NOT NULL DEFAULT CURRENT_TIMESTAMP,
  `emp_overtime_allowed` tinyint(4) DEFAULT '1',
  PRIMARY KEY (`emp_badgenumber`),

  KEY `emp_badgenumber_2` (`emp_badgenumber`)
) ENGINE=InnoDB  DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1 AUTO_INCREMENT=111121326 ;

now change auto increment value and execute sql.

    } catch (Exception e) {}
  }
}

How do I compare version numbers in Python?

How do you automatically resize columns in a DataGridView control AND allow the user to resize the columns on that same grid?

This autofits all columns according to their content, fills the remaining empty space by stretching a specified column and prevents the 'jumping' behaviour by setting the last column to fill for any future resizing.

// autosize all columns according to their content
dgv.AutoResizeColumns(DataGridViewAutoSizeColumnsMode.AllCells);
// make column 1 (or whatever) fill the empty space
dgv.Columns[1].AutoSizeMode = DataGridViewAutoSizeColumnMode.Fill;
// remove column 1 autosizing to prevent 'jumping' behaviour
dgv.Columns[1].AutoSizeMode = DataGridViewAutoSizeColumnMode.None;
// let the last column fill the empty space when the grid or any column is resized (more natural/expected behaviour)
dgv.Columns.GetLastColumn(DataGridViewElementStates.None, DataGridViewElementStates.None).AutoSizeMode = DataGridViewAutoSizeColumnMode.Fill;

Regular expression \p{L} and \p{N}

These are Unicode property shortcuts (\p{L} for Unicode letters, \p{N} for Unicode digits). They are supported by .NET, Perl, Java, PCRE, XML, XPath, JGSoft, Ruby (1.9 and higher) and PHP (since 5.1.0)

At any rate, that's a very strange regex. You should not be using alternation when a character class would suffice:

[\p{L}\p{N}_.-]*

Can an interface extend multiple interfaces in Java?

A Java class can only extend one parent class. Multiple inheritance is not allowed. Interfaces are not classes, however, and an interface can extend more than one parent interface.

for example, take a look here: http://www.tutorialspoint.com/java/java_interfaces.htm

java.net.ConnectException: localhost/127.0.0.1:8080 - Connection refused

Solution is very simple.

1 Add Internet permission in Androidmanifest.xml file

<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.INTERNET" />

[2] Change your httpd.config file

Order Deny,Allow
Deny from all
Allow from 127.0.0.1

TO

Order Deny,Allow
Allow from all
Allow from 127.0.0.1

And restart your server.

[3] And most impotent step. MAKE YOUR NETWORK AS YOUR HOME NETWORK

Go to Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center

Click on your Network and select HOME NETWORK

What is the most efficient string concatenation method in python?

Python 3.6 changed the game for string concatenation of known components with Literal String Interpolation.

Given the test case from mkoistinen's answer, having strings

domain = 'some_really_long_example.com'
lang = 'en'
path = 'some/really/long/path/'

The contenders are

  • f'http://{domain}/{lang}/{path}' - 0.151 µs

  • 'http://%s/%s/%s' % (domain, lang, path) - 0.321 µs

  • 'http://' + domain + '/' + lang + '/' + path - 0.356 µs

  • ''.join(('http://', domain, '/', lang, '/', path)) - 0.249 µs (notice that building a constant-length tuple is slightly faster than building a constant-length list).

Thus currently the shortest and the most beautiful code possible is also fastest.

In alpha versions of Python 3.6 the implementation of f'' strings was the slowest possible - actually the generated byte code is pretty much equivalent to the ''.join() case with unnecessary calls to str.__format__ which without arguments would just return self unchanged. These inefficiencies were addressed before 3.6 final.

The speed can be contrasted with the fastest method for Python 2, which is + concatenation on my computer; and that takes 0.203 µs with 8-bit strings, and 0.259 µs if the strings are all Unicode.

Rounded table corners CSS only

Through personal expeirence I've found that it's not possible to round corners of an HTML table cell with pure CSS. Rounding a table's outermost border is possible.

You will have to resort to using images as described in this tutorial, or any similar :)

Create sequence of repeated values, in sequence?

For your example, Dirk's answer is perfect. If you instead had a data frame and wanted to add that sort of sequence as a column, you could also use group from groupdata2 (disclaimer: my package) to greedily divide the datapoints into groups.

# Attach groupdata2
library(groupdata2)
# Create a random data frame
df <- data.frame("x" = rnorm(27))
# Create groups with 5 members each (except last group)
group(df, n = 5, method = "greedy")
         x .groups
     <dbl> <fct>
 1  0.891  1
 2 -1.13   1
 3 -0.500  1
 4 -1.12   1
 5 -0.0187 1
 6  0.420  2
 7 -0.449  2
 8  0.365  2
 9  0.526  2
10  0.466  2
# … with 17 more rows

There's a whole range of methods for creating this kind of grouping factor. E.g. by number of groups, a list of group sizes, or by having groups start when the value in some column differs from the value in the previous row (e.g. if a column is c("x","x","y","z","z") the grouping factor would be c(1,1,2,3,3).

Reading images in python

You can also use Pillow like this:

from PIL import Image
image = Image.open("image_path.jpg")
image.show()

Rails create or update magic?

Rails 6

Rails 6 added an upsert and upsert_all methods that deliver this functionality.

Model.upsert(column_name: value)

[upsert] It does not instantiate any models nor does it trigger Active Record callbacks or validations.

Rails 5, 4, and 3

Not if you are looking for an "upsert" (where the database executes an update or an insert statement in the same operation) type of statement. Out of the box, Rails and ActiveRecord have no such feature. You can use the upsert gem, however.

Otherwise, you can use: find_or_initialize_by or find_or_create_by, which offer similar functionality, albeit at the cost of an additional database hit, which, in most cases, is hardly an issue at all. So unless you have serious performance concerns, I would not use the gem.

For example, if no user is found with the name "Roger", a new user instance is instantiated with its name set to "Roger".

user = User.where(name: "Roger").first_or_initialize
user.email = "[email protected]"
user.save

Alternatively, you can use find_or_initialize_by.

user = User.find_or_initialize_by(name: "Roger")

In Rails 3.

user = User.find_or_initialize_by_name("Roger")
user.email = "[email protected]"
user.save

You can use a block, but the block only runs if the record is new.

User.where(name: "Roger").first_or_initialize do |user|
  # this won't run if a user with name "Roger" is found
  user.save
end

User.find_or_initialize_by(name: "Roger") do |user|
  # this also won't run if a user with name "Roger" is found
  user.save
end

If you want to use a block regardless of the record's persistence, use tap on the result:

User.where(name: "Roger").first_or_initialize.tap do |user|
  user.email = "[email protected]"
  user.save
end

Converting between datetime, Timestamp and datetime64

One option is to use str, and then to_datetime (or similar):

In [11]: str(dt64)
Out[11]: '2012-05-01T01:00:00.000000+0100'

In [12]: pd.to_datetime(str(dt64))
Out[12]: datetime.datetime(2012, 5, 1, 1, 0, tzinfo=tzoffset(None, 3600))

Note: it is not equal to dt because it's become "offset-aware":

In [13]: pd.to_datetime(str(dt64)).replace(tzinfo=None)
Out[13]: datetime.datetime(2012, 5, 1, 1, 0)

This seems inelegant.

.

Update: this can deal with the "nasty example":

In [21]: dt64 = numpy.datetime64('2002-06-28T01:00:00.000000000+0100')

In [22]: pd.to_datetime(str(dt64)).replace(tzinfo=None)
Out[22]: datetime.datetime(2002, 6, 28, 1, 0)

Cannot implicitly convert type 'System.DateTime?' to 'System.DateTime'. An explicit conversion exists

The problem is that you are passing a nullable type to a non-nullable type.

You can do any of the following solution:

A. Declare your dt as nullable

DateTime? dt = dateTime;

B. Use Value property of the the DateTime? datetime

DateTime dt = datetime.Value;

C. Cast it

DateTime dt = (DateTime) datetime;

Convert integer to class Date

as.character() would be the general way rather than use paste() for its side effect

> v <- 20081101
> date <- as.Date(as.character(v), format = "%Y%m%d")
> date
[1] "2008-11-01"

(I presume this is a simple example and something like this:

v <- "20081101"

isn't possible?)

Explain __dict__ attribute

Basically it contains all the attributes which describe the object in question. It can be used to alter or read the attributes. Quoting from the documentation for __dict__

A dictionary or other mapping object used to store an object's (writable) attributes.

Remember, everything is an object in Python. When I say everything, I mean everything like functions, classes, objects etc (Ya you read it right, classes. Classes are also objects). For example:

def func():
    pass

func.temp = 1

print(func.__dict__)

class TempClass:
    a = 1
    def temp_function(self):
        pass

print(TempClass.__dict__)

will output

{'temp': 1}
{'__module__': '__main__',
 'a': 1,
 'temp_function': <function TempClass.temp_function at 0x10a3a2950>,
 '__dict__': <attribute '__dict__' of 'TempClass' objects>,
 '__weakref__': <attribute '__weakref__' of 'TempClass' objects>,
 '__doc__': None}

Calling method using JavaScript prototype

If you know your super class by name, you can do something like this:

function Base() {
}

Base.prototype.foo = function() {
  console.log('called foo in Base');
}

function Sub() {
}

Sub.prototype = new Base();

Sub.prototype.foo = function() {
  console.log('called foo in Sub');
  Base.prototype.foo.call(this);
}

var base = new Base();
base.foo();

var sub = new Sub();
sub.foo();

This will print

called foo in Base
called foo in Sub
called foo in Base

as expected.

TempData keep() vs peek()

When an object in a TempDataDictionary is read, it will be marked for deletion at the end of that request.

That means if you put something on TempData like

TempData["value"] = "someValueForNextRequest";

And on another request you access it, the value will be there but as soon as you read it, the value will be marked for deletion:

//second request, read value and is marked for deletion
object value = TempData["value"];

//third request, value is not there as it was deleted at the end of the second request
TempData["value"] == null

The Peek and Keep methods allow you to read the value without marking it for deletion. Say we get back to the first request where the value was saved to TempData.

With Peek you get the value without marking it for deletion with a single call, see msdn:

//second request, PEEK value so it is not deleted at the end of the request
object value = TempData.Peek("value");

//third request, read value and mark it for deletion
object value = TempData["value"];

With Keep you specify a key that was marked for deletion that you want to keep. Retrieving the object and later on saving it from deletion are 2 different calls. See msdn

//second request, get value marking it from deletion
object value = TempData["value"];
//later on decide to keep it
TempData.Keep("value");

//third request, read value and mark it for deletion
object value = TempData["value"];

You can use Peek when you always want to retain the value for another request. Use Keep when retaining the value depends on additional logic.

You have 2 good questions about how TempData works here and here

Hope it helps!

get specific row from spark dataframe

This is how I achieved the same in Scala. I am not sure if it is more efficient than the valid answer, but it requires less coding

val parquetFileDF = sqlContext.read.parquet("myParquetFule.parquet")

val myRow7th = parquetFileDF.rdd.take(7).last

How to convert the background to transparent?

Paint.net is a free photo-editing tool that allows for transparent backgrounds. There is a simple example on YouTube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cdFpS-AvNCE. If you are still on Windows XP SP2 and that's an issue, I would first recommend doing the free service pack upgrade. But if that is not an option there are older versions of Paint.net that you could download and try.

Plotting a list of (x, y) coordinates in python matplotlib

As per this example:

import numpy as np
import matplotlib.pyplot as plt

N = 50
x = np.random.rand(N)
y = np.random.rand(N)

plt.scatter(x, y)
plt.show()

will produce:

enter image description here

To unpack your data from pairs into lists use zip:

x, y = zip(*li)

So, the one-liner:

plt.scatter(*zip(*li))

How do I connect to a Websphere Datasource with a given JNDI name?

Jason,

This is how it works.

Localnamespace - java:comp/env is a local name space used by the application. The name that you use in it jdbc/db is just an alias. It does not refer to a physical resource.

During deployment this alias should be mapped to a physical resource (in your case a data source) that is defined on the WAS/WPS run time.

This is actually stored in ejb-bnd.xmi files. In the latest versions the XMIs are replaced with XML files. These files are referred to as the Binding files.

How to get all values from python enum class?

class enum.Enum is a class that solves all your enumeration needs, so you just need to inherit from it, and add your own fields. Then from then on, all you need to do is to just call it's attributes: name & value:

from enum import Enum

class Letter(Enum):
   A = 1
   B = 2
   C = 3

print({i.name: i.value for i in Letter})
# prints {'A': 1, 'B': 2, 'C': 3}

Set the default value in dropdownlist using jQuery

$('#userZipFiles option').prop('selected', function() {
        return this.defaultSelected;
    });

How to unzip a list of tuples into individual lists?

Use zip(*list):

>>> l = [(1,2), (3,4), (8,9)]
>>> list(zip(*l))
[(1, 3, 8), (2, 4, 9)]

The zip() function pairs up the elements from all inputs, starting with the first values, then the second, etc. By using *l you apply all tuples in l as separate arguments to the zip() function, so zip() pairs up 1 with 3 with 8 first, then 2 with 4 and 9. Those happen to correspond nicely with the columns, or the transposition of l.

zip() produces tuples; if you must have mutable list objects, just map() the tuples to lists or use a list comprehension to produce a list of lists:

map(list, zip(*l))          # keep it a generator
[list(t) for t in zip(*l)] # consume the zip generator into a list of lists

Value does not fall within the expected range

This might be due to the fact that you are trying to add a ListBoxItem with a same name to the page.

If you want to refresh the content of the listbox with the newly retrieved values you will have to first manually remove the content of the listbox other wise your loop will try to create lb_1 again and add it to the same list.

Look at here for a similar problem that occured Silverlight: Value does not fall within the expected range exception

Cheers,

What order are the Junit @Before/@After called?

Yes, this behaviour is guaranteed:

@Before:

The @Before methods of superclasses will be run before those of the current class, unless they are overridden in the current class. No other ordering is defined.

@After:

The @After methods declared in superclasses will be run after those of the current class, unless they are overridden in the current class.

How do I align views at the bottom of the screen?

In case you have a hierarchy like this:

<ScrollView>
  |-- <RelativeLayout>
    |-- <LinearLayout>

First, apply android:fillViewport="true" to the ScrollView and then apply android:layout_alignParentBottom="true" to the LinearLayout.

This worked for me perfectly.

<ScrollView
    android:layout_height="match_parent"
    android:layout_width="match_parent"
    android:scrollbars="none"
    android:fillViewport="true">
    <RelativeLayout

        android:layout_height="wrap_content">
        <LinearLayout
            android:orientation="horizontal"
            android:layout_width="match_parent"
            android:layout_height="wrap_content"
            android:gravity="center"
            android:id="@+id/linearLayoutHorizontal"
            android:layout_alignParentBottom="true">
        </LinearLayout>
    </RelativeLayout>

Writing String to Stream and reading it back does not work

You need to reset the stream to the beginning:

stringAsStream.Seek(0, SeekOrigin.Begin);
Console.WriteLine("Differs from:\t" + (char)stringAsStream.ReadByte());

This can also be done by setting the Position property to 0:

stringAsStream.Position = 0

EXCEL VBA, inserting blank row and shifting cells

If you want to just shift everything down you can use:

Rows(1).Insert shift:=xlShiftDown

Best way to define private methods for a class in Objective-C

While I am no Objective-C expert, I personally just define the method in the implementation of my class. Granted, it must be defined before (above) any methods calling it, but it definitely takes the least amount of work to do.

Usage of MySQL's "IF EXISTS"

I found the example RichardTheKiwi quite informative.

Just to offer another approach if you're looking for something like IF EXISTS (SELECT 1 ..) THEN ...

-- what I might write in MSSQL

IF EXISTS (SELECT 1 FROM Table WHERE FieldValue='')
BEGIN
    SELECT TableID FROM Table WHERE FieldValue=''
END
ELSE
BEGIN
    INSERT INTO TABLE(FieldValue) VALUES('')
    SELECT SCOPE_IDENTITY() AS TableID
END

-- rewritten for MySQL

IF (SELECT 1 = 1 FROM Table WHERE FieldValue='') THEN
BEGIN
    SELECT TableID FROM Table WHERE FieldValue='';
END;
ELSE
BEGIN
    INSERT INTO Table (FieldValue) VALUES('');
    SELECT LAST_INSERT_ID() AS TableID;
END;
END IF;

Undo git update-index --assume-unchanged <file>

So this happened! I accidently clicked on "assume unchanged"! I tried searching on Internet, but could not find any working solution! So, I tried few things here and there and finally I found the solution (easiest one) for this which will undo the assume unchanged!

Right click on "Your Project" then Team > Advanced > No assume Unchanged.

How do you loop in a Windows batch file?

FOR %%A IN (list) DO command parameters

list is a list of any elements, separated by either spaces, commas or semicolons.

command can be any internal or external command, batch file or even - in OS/2 and NT - a list of commands

parameters contains the command line parameters for command. In this example, command will be executed once for every element in list, using parameters if specified.

A special type of parameter (or even command) is %%A, which will be substituted by each element from list consecutively.

Gradle to execute Java class (without modifying build.gradle)

Expanding on First Zero's answer, I'm guess you want something where you can also run gradle build without errors.

Both gradle build and gradle -PmainClass=foo runApp work with this:

task runApp(type:JavaExec) {
    classpath = sourceSets.main.runtimeClasspath

    main = project.hasProperty("mainClass") ? project.getProperty("mainClass") : "package.MyDefaultMain"
}

where you set your default main class.

Function that creates a timestamp in c#

I always use something like the following:

public static String GetTimestamp(this DateTime value)
{
    return value.ToString("yyyyMMddHHmmssfff");
}

This will give you a string like 200905211035131468, as the string goes from highest order bits of the timestamp to lowest order simple string sorting in your SQL queries can be used to order by date if you're sticking values in a database

How do I install the babel-polyfill library?

babel-polyfill allows you to use the full set of ES6 features beyond syntax changes. This includes features such as new built-in objects like Promises and WeakMap, as well as new static methods like Array.from or Object.assign.

Without babel-polyfill, babel only allows you to use features like arrow functions, destructuring, default arguments, and other syntax-specific features introduced in ES6.

How to edit an Android app?

Generally speaking, a software product isn't your "property already", as you said in the comment. Most of the times (I won't be irresponsible to say anything in open), it's licensed to you. A license to use some thing is not the same thing as owning (property rights) that very same thing.

That's because there are authorship, copyright, intellectual property rights applicable to it. I don't know how things work in United States (or in your country), but it's generally accepted that the work of a mind, a creative work, must not be changed in its nature as such to make the expression of art to be different than that expression that the author intended. That applies for example, in some cases, to architectural work (in most countries, you can't change the appearance of a building to "desfigure" the work of art of the architect, without his prior consent). Exceptions are made, obviously, when the author expressly authorizes such changes (e.g., Creative Commons licenses, open source licenses etc.).

Anyway, that's why you see in most EULAs the typical sentence: "this software is licensed, not sold". That's the purpose and reason why.

Now that you understand the reasons why you can't wander around changing other people's art, let me be technical.

There are possible ways to decompile Java programs. You can use dex2jar, it provides a somewhat good start for you to start looking for things and changes. And perhaps rebuild the code by mounting back the pieces together. Good luck, as most people obfuscate their codes to make that harder.

However, let me say that it's still forbidden to change programs, as I said above. And it's extremely unethical. It makes me sad that people do that with no scruples (not saying it's your case, just warning you). It shouldn't need people to be at the other side to understand that. Or maybe that's just me, who lives in a country where piracy is rampant.

The tools are always out there. But the conscience, unfortunately, not always.

edit: in case it isn't clear enough already, I do NOT approve the use of these programs. I use them myself to check how hard my own applications are to be reverse engineered. But I also think that explaning is always better than denial (better be here).

Checking for #N/A in Excel cell from VBA code

First check for an error (N/A value) and then try the comparisation against cvErr(). You are comparing two different things, a value and an error. This may work, but not always. Simply casting the expression to an error may result in similar problems because it is not a real error only the value of an error which depends on the expression.

What is the difference between old style and new style classes in Python?

Guido has written The Inside Story on New-Style Classes, a really great article about new-style and old-style class in Python.

Python 3 has only new-style class. Even if you write an 'old-style class', it is implicitly derived from object.

New-style classes have some advanced features lacking in old-style classes, such as super, the new C3 mro, some magical methods, etc.

Enabling WiFi on Android Emulator

(Repeating here my answer elsewhere.)

In theory, linux (the kernel underlying android) has mac80211_hwsim driver, which simulates WiFi. It can be used to set up several WiFi devices (an acces point, and another WiFi device, and so on), which would make up a WiFi network.

It's useful for testing WiFi programs under linux. Possibly, even under user-mode linux or other isolated virtual "boxes" with linux.

In theory, this driver could be used for tests in the android systems where you don't have a real WiFi device (or don't want to use it), and also in some kind of android emulators. Perhaps, one can manage to use this driver in android-x86, or--for testing--in android-x86 run in VirtualBox.

how to convert object to string in java

Might not be so related to the issue above. However if you are looking for a way to serialize Java object as string, this could come in hand

package pt.iol.security;

import java.io.ByteArrayInputStream;
import java.io.ByteArrayOutputStream;
import java.io.IOException;
import java.io.ObjectInputStream;
import java.io.ObjectOutputStream;
import java.util.zip.GZIPInputStream;
import java.util.zip.GZIPOutputStream;
import org.apache.commons.codec.binary.Base64;

public class ObjectUtil {

    static final Base64 base64 = new Base64();

    public static String serializeObjectToString(Object object) throws IOException {
        try (
                ByteArrayOutputStream arrayOutputStream = new ByteArrayOutputStream();
                GZIPOutputStream gzipOutputStream = new GZIPOutputStream(arrayOutputStream);
                ObjectOutputStream objectOutputStream = new ObjectOutputStream(gzipOutputStream);) {
            objectOutputStream.writeObject(object);
            objectOutputStream.flush();
            return new String(base64.encode(arrayOutputStream.toByteArray()));
        }
    }

    public static Object deserializeObjectFromString(String objectString) throws IOException, ClassNotFoundException {
        try (
                ByteArrayInputStream arrayInputStream = new ByteArrayInputStream(base64.decode(objectString));
                GZIPInputStream gzipInputStream = new GZIPInputStream(arrayInputStream);
                ObjectInputStream objectInputStream = new ObjectInputStream(gzipInputStream)) {
            return objectInputStream.readObject();
        }
    }

SQL order string as number

If possible you should change the data type of the column to a number if you only store numbers anyway.

If you can't do that then cast your column value to an integer explicitly with

select col from yourtable
order by cast(col as unsigned)

or implicitly for instance with a mathematical operation which forces a conversion to number

select col from yourtable
order by col + 0

BTW MySQL converts strings from left to right. Examples:

string value | integer value after conversion
--------------+--------------------------------
'1'           |  1
'ABC' | 0 /* the string does not contain a number, so the result is 0 */
'123miles'    |  123
'$123' | 0 /* the left side of the string does not start with a number */

How to use Oracle ORDER BY and ROWNUM correctly?

Use ROW_NUMBER() instead. ROWNUM is a pseudocolumn and ROW_NUMBER() is a function. You can read about difference between them and see the difference in output of below queries:

POSTing JsonObject With HttpClient From Web API

With the new version of HttpClient and without the WebApi package it would be:

var content = new StringContent(jsonObject.ToString(), Encoding.UTF8, "application/json");
var result = client.PostAsync(url, content).Result;

Or if you want it async:

var result = await client.PostAsync(url, content);

Force flushing of output to a file while bash script is still running

I found a solution to this here. Using the OP's example you basically run

stdbuf -oL /homedir/MyScript &> some_log.log

and then the buffer gets flushed after each line of output. I often combine this with nohup to run long jobs on a remote machine.

stdbuf -oL nohup /homedir/MyScript &> some_log.log

This way your process doesn't get cancelled when you log out.

XAMPP Start automatically on Windows 7 startup

I am using XAMPP on Win 7 and 8.1 too...it start normally.

Did you try to check the services on Start > RUN > services.msc

Find the service: Apache 2.x. (right click) choose Properties. At form "Startup type" choose "Automatically" and Start the service on.

you should reset the PC and check out again.

Do the same with mySQL.

If you can not solve the problem, use XAMPP Panel to start it manually.

MVC [HttpPost/HttpGet] for Action

Let's say you have a Login action which provides the user with a login screen, then receives the user name and password back after the user submits the form:

public ActionResult Login() {
    return View();
}

public ActionResult Login(string userName, string password) {
    // do login stuff
    return View();
}

MVC isn't being given clear instructions on which action is which, even though we can tell by looking at it. If you add [HttpGet] to the first action and [HttpPost] to the section action, MVC clearly knows which action is which.

Why? See Request Methods. Long and short: When a user views a page, that's a GET request and when a user submits a form, that's usually a POST request. HttpGet and HttpPost just restrict the action to the applicable request type.

[HttpGet]
public ActionResult Login() {
    return View();
}

[HttpPost]
public ActionResult Login(string userName, string password) {
    // do login stuff
    return View();
}

You can also combine the request method attributes if your action serves requests from multiple verbs:

[AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Get | HttpVerbs.Post)].

How to split the screen with two equal LinearLayouts?

To Split a layout to equal parts

Use Layout Weights. Keep in mind that it is important to set layout_width as 0dp on children to make it work as intended.

on parent layout:

  1. Set weightSum of parent Layout as 1 (android:weightSum="1")

on the child layout:

  1. Set layout_width as 0dp (android:layout_width="0dp")
  2. Set layout_weight as 0.5 [half of weight sum fr equal two] (android:layout_weight="0.5")

To split layout to three equal parts:

  • parent: weightSum 3
  • child: layout_weight: 1

To split layout to four equal parts:

  • parent: weightSum 1
  • child: layout_weight: 0.25

To split layout to n equal parts:

  • parent: weightSum n
  • child: layout_weight: 1

Below is an example layout for splitting layout to two equal parts.

<LinearLayout
    android:id="@+id/layout_top"
    android:layout_width="fill_parent"
    android:layout_height="wrap_content"
    android:weightSum="1">

    <LinearLayout
        android:layout_width="0dp"
        android:layout_height="wrap_content"
        android:layout_weight="0.5"
        android:orientation="vertical">

        <TextView .. />

        <EditText .../>

    </LinearLayout>

    <LinearLayout
        android:layout_width="0dp"
        android:layout_height="wrap_content"
        android:layout_weight="0.5"
        android:orientation="vertical">

        <TextView ../>

        <EditText ../>

    </LinearLayout>

</LinearLayout>

CustomErrors mode="Off"

Also make sure you're editing web.config and not website.config, as I was doing.

C# Connecting Through Proxy

If you are using WebClient, it has a Proxy property you can use.

As other have mentioned, there are several ways to automate proxy setting detection/usage

Web.Config:

<system.net>
   <defaultProxy enabled="true" useDefaultCredentials="true">
     <proxy usesystemdefault="true" bypassonlocal="true" />
   </defaultProxy>
</system.net>

Use of the WebProxy class as described in this article.

You can also cofigure the proxy settings directly (config or code) and your app will then use those.

Web.Config:

<system.net>
  <defaultProxy>
    <proxy
      proxyaddress="http://[proxy address]:[proxy port]"
      bypassonlocal="false"
    />
  </defaultProxy>
</system.net>

Code:

HttpWebRequest request = (HttpWebRequest)WebRequest.Create("url");
WebProxy myproxy = new WebProxy("[proxy address]:[proxy port]", false);
request.Proxy = myproxy;
request.Method = "GET";
HttpWebResponse response = (HttpWebResponse) request.GetResponse();

What is MATLAB good for? Why is it so used by universities? When is it better than Python?

Adam is only partially right. Many, if not most, mathematicians will never touch it. If there is a computer tool used at all, it's going to be something like Mathematica or Maple. Engineering departments, on the other hand, often rely on it and there are definitely useful things for some applied mathematicians. It's also used heavily in industry in some areas.

Something you have to realize about MATLAB is that it started off as a wrapper on Fortran libraries for linear algebra. For a long time, it had an attitude that "all the world is an array of doubles (floats)". As a language, it has grown very organically, and there are some flaws that are very much baked in, if you look at it just as a programming language.

However, if you look at it as an environment for doing certain types of research in, it has some real strengths. It's about as good as it gets for doing floating point linear algebra. The notation is simple and powerful, the implementation fast and trusted. It is very good at generating plots and other interactive tasks. There are a large number of `toolboxes' with good code for particular tasks, that are affordable. There is a large community of users that share numerical codes (Python + NumPy has nothing in the same league, at least yet)

Python, warts and all, is a much better programming language (as are many others). However, it's a decade or so behind in terms of the tools.

The key point is that the majority of people who use MATLAB are not programmers really, and don't want to be.

It's a lousy choice for a general programming language; it's quirky, slow for many tasks (you need to vectorize things to get efficient codes), and not easy to integrate with the outside world. On the other hand, for the things it is good at, it is very very good. Very few things compare. There's a company with reasonable support and who knows how many man-years put into it. This can matter in industry.

Strictly looking at your Python vs. MATLAB comparison, they are mostly different tools for different jobs. In the areas where they do overlap a bit, it's hard to say what the better route to go is (depends a lot on what you're trying to do). But mostly Python isn't all that good at MATLAB's core strengths, and vice versa.

Oracle SQL Developer: Unable to find a JVM

Version 1.5 is very, very old.

In the latest builds, we support 32 and 64 bit JDKs. In version 4.0, we find the JDK for you on Windows. If the software can't find it, it prompts for that path.

That path would look something like this C:\Java\jdk1.7.0_45

How to verify element present or visible in selenium 2 (Selenium WebDriver)

I used java print statements for easy understanding.

  1. To check Element Present:

    if(driver.findElements(By.xpath("value")).size() != 0){
    System.out.println("Element is Present");
    }else{
    System.out.println("Element is Absent");
    }

    Or

    if(driver.findElement(By.xpath("value"))!= null){
    System.out.println("Element is Present");
    }else{
    System.out.println("Element is Absent");
    }

  2. To check Visible:

    if( driver.findElement(By.cssSelector("a > font")).isDisplayed()){
    System.out.println("Element is Visible");
    }else{
    System.out.println("Element is InVisible");
    }

  3. To check Enable:

    if( driver.findElement(By.cssSelector("a > font")).isEnabled()){
    System.out.println("Element is Enable");
    }else{
    System.out.println("Element is Disabled");
    }

  4. To check text present

    private BroadcastReceiver broadcastReceiver = new BroadcastReceiver() {
        @Override
        public void onReceive(Context context, Intent intent) {
            TestActivity.this.finish();
        }
    };

    @Override
    public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
        super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);

        //other stuff...

        registerReceiver(broadcastReceiver, new IntentFilter(STOP_COMMAND));
    }
}

That way, you can issue this adb command to stop your activity:

adb shell am broadcast -a com.example.TestActivity.STOP

CSS: Set a background color which is 50% of the width of the window

if you want to use linear-gradient with 50% of height:

background: linear-gradient(to bottom, red 0%, blue 100%) no-repeat;
background-size: calc(100%) calc(50%);
background-position: top;

Disable vertical sync for glxgears

Putting the other answers all together, here's a command line that will work:

env vblank_mode=0 __GL_SYNC_TO_VBLANK=0 glxgears

This has the advantages of working for both Mesa and NVidia drivers, and not requiring any changes to configuration files.

Java: How to convert List to Map

Many solutions come to mind, depending on what you want to achive:

Every List item is key and value

for( Object o : list ) {
    map.put(o,o);
}

List elements have something to look them up, maybe a name:

for( MyObject o : list ) {
    map.put(o.name,o);
}

List elements have something to look them up, and there is no guarantee that they are unique: Use Googles MultiMaps

for( MyObject o : list ) {
    multimap.put(o.name,o);
}

Giving all the elements the position as a key:

for( int i=0; i<list.size; i++ ) {
    map.put(i,list.get(i));
}

...

It really depends on what you want to achive.

As you can see from the examples, a Map is a mapping from a key to a value, while a list is just a series of elements having a position each. So they are simply not automatically convertible.

Setting the User-Agent header for a WebClient request

You can also use that:

client.Headers.Add(HttpRequestHeader.UserAgent, "My app.");

Android Layout Weight

i would suppose to set the EditTexts width to wrap_content and put the two buttons into a LinearLayout whose width is fill_parent and weight set to 1.

How to add a title to a html select tag

With a default option having selected attribute

<select>
        <option value="" selected>Choose your city</option>
        <option value ="sydney">Sydney</option>
        <option value ="melbourne">Melbourne</option>
        <option value ="cromwell">Cromwell</option>
        <option value ="queenstown">Queenstown</option>
</select>

Styling a disabled input with css only

A space in a CSS selector selects child elements.

.btn input

This is basically what you wrote and it would select <input> elements within any element that has the btn class.

I think you're looking for

input[disabled].btn:hover, input[disabled].btn:active, input[disabled].btn:focus

This would select <input> elements with the disabled attribute and the btn class in the three different states of hover, active and focus.

How to get rid of underline for Link component of React Router?

How to access route, post, get etc. parameters in Zend Framework 2

If You have no access to plugin for instance outside of controller You can get params from servicelocator like this

//from POST
$foo = $this->serviceLocator->get('request')->getPost('foo');
//from GET
$foo = $this->serviceLocator->get('request')->getQuery()->foo;
//from route
$foo = $this->serviceLocator->get('application')->getMvcEvent()->getRouteMatch()->getParam('foo');

Disable cross domain web security in Firefox

I have not been able to find a Firefox option equivalent of --disable-web-security or an addon that does that for me. I really needed it for some testing scenarios where modifying the web server was not possible. What did help was to use Fiddler to auto-modify web responses so that they have the correct headers and CORS is no longer an issue.

The steps are:

  1. Open fiddler.

  2. If on https go to menu Tools -> Options -> Https and tick the Capture & Decrypt https options

  3. Go to menu Rules -> Customize rules. Modify the OnBeforeResponseFunction so that it looks like the following, then save:

     static function OnBeforeResponse(oSession: Session) {
        //....
        oSession.oResponse.headers.Remove("Access-Control-Allow-Origin");
        oSession.oResponse.headers.Add("Access-Control-Allow-Origin", "*");
        //...
     }

    This will make every web response to have the Access-Control-Allow-Origin: * header.

  4. This still won't work as the OPTIONS preflight will pass through and cause the request to block before our above rule gets the chance to modify the headers. So to fix this, in the fiddler main window, on the right hand side there's an AutoResponder tab. Add a new rule and response: METHOD:OPTIONS https://yoursite.com/ with auto response: *CORSPreflightAllow and tick the boxes: "Enable Rules" and "Unmatched requests passthrough".

Get the value of checked checkbox?

This does not directly answer the question, but may help future visitors.

If you want to have a variable always be the current state of the checkbox (rather than having to keep checking its state), you can modify the onchange event to set that variable.

This can be done in the HTML:

<input class='messageCheckbox' type='checkbox' onchange='some_var=this.checked;'>

or with JavaScript:

cb = document.getElementsByClassName('messageCheckbox')[0]
cb.addEventListener('change', function(){some_var = this.checked})

How to access URL segment(s) in blade in Laravel 5?

BASED ON LARAVEL 5.7 & ABOVE

To get all segments of current URL:

$current_uri = request()->segments();

To get segment posts from http://example.com/users/posts/latest/

NOTE: Segments are an array that starts at index 0. The first element of array starts after the TLD part of the url. So in the above url, segment(0) will be users and segment(1) will be posts.

//get segment 0
$segment_users = request()->segment(0); //returns 'users'
//get segment 1
$segment_posts = request()->segment(1); //returns 'posts'

You may have noted that the segment method only works with the current URL ( url()->current() ). So I designed a method to work with previous URL too by cloning the segment() method:

public function index()
{
    $prev_uri_segments = $this->prev_segments(url()->previous());
}

 /**
 * Get all of the segments for the previous uri.
 *
 * @return array
 */
public function prev_segments($uri)
{
    $segments = explode('/', str_replace(''.url('').'', '', $uri));

    return array_values(array_filter($segments, function ($value) {
        return $value !== '';
    }));
}

How to do tag wrapping in VS code?

With VSCode 1.47+ you can simply use OPT-w for this.

Utilizing built-in functionality to trigger emmet, this is the easiest way:

  1. Select your text/html.
  2. Option+w
  3. In the emmet window opened in the command palette, type in the tag or wrapping code you need.
  4. Enter
  5. Voila

Detecting the onload event of a window opened with window.open

If the pop-up's document is from a different domain, this is simply not possible.

Update April 2015: I was wrong about this: if you own both domains, you can use window.postMessage and the message event in pretty much all browsers that are relevant today.

If not, there's still no way you'll be able to make this work cross-browser without some help from the document being loaded into the pop-up. You need to be able to detect a change in the pop-up that occurs once it has loaded, which could be a variable that JavaScript in the pop-up page sets when it handles its own load event, or if you have some control of it you could add a call to a function in the opener.

Yii2 data provider default sorting

defaultOrder contain a array where key is a column name and value is a SORT_DESC or SORT_ASC that's why below code not working.

$dataProvider = new ActiveDataProvider([
        'query' => $query,
        'sort' => ['defaultOrder'=>'topic_order asc']
    ]);

Correct Way

$dataProvider = new ActiveDataProvider([
    'query' => $query,
    'sort' => [
        'defaultOrder' => [
            'topic_order' => SORT_ASC,
        ]
    ],
]);

Note: If a query already specifies the orderBy clause, the new ordering instructions given by end users (through the sort configuration) will be appended to the existing orderBy clause. Any existing limit and offset clauses will be overwritten by the pagination request from end users (through the pagination configuration).

You can detail learn from Yii2 Guide of Data Provider

Sorting By passing Sort object in query

 $sort = new Sort([
        'attributes' => [
            'age',
            'name' => [
                'asc' => ['first_name' => SORT_ASC, 'last_name' => SORT_ASC],
                'desc' => ['first_name' => SORT_DESC, 'last_name' => SORT_DESC],
                'default' => SORT_DESC,
                'label' => 'Name',
            ],
        ],
    ]);

    $models = Article::find()
        ->where(['status' => 1])
        ->orderBy($sort->orders)
        ->all();

Collections sort(List<T>,Comparator<? super T>) method example

This might be simplest way -

Collections.sort(listOfStudent,new Comparator<Student>(){
                     public int compare(Student s1,Student s2){
                           // Write your logic here.
                     }});

Using Java 8(lambda expression) -

listOfStudent.sort((s1, s2) -> s1.age - s2.age);

How do I get the SelectedItem or SelectedIndex of ListView in vb.net?

If you want to select the same item in a listbox using a listview, you can use:

Private Sub ListView1_SelectedIndexChanged(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles ListView1.SelectedIndexChanged
    For aa As Integer = 0 To ListView1.SelectedItems.Count - 1
        ListBox1.SelectedIndex = ListView1.SelectedIndices(aa)
    Next
End Sub

Is it possible to set the stacking order of pseudo-elements below their parent element?

Speaking with regard to the spec (http://www.w3.org/TR/CSS2/zindex.html), since a.someSelector is positioned it creates a new stacking context that its children can't break out of. Leave a.someSelector unpositioned and then child a.someSelector:after may be positioned in the same context as a.someSelector.

MySQL count occurrences greater than 2

To get a list of the words that appear more than once together with how often they occur, use a combination of GROUP BY and HAVING:

SELECT word, COUNT(*) AS cnt
FROM words
GROUP BY word
HAVING cnt > 1

To find the number of words in the above result set, use that as a subquery and count the rows in an outer query:

SELECT COUNT(*)
FROM
(
    SELECT NULL
    FROM words
    GROUP BY word
    HAVING COUNT(*) > 1
) T1

Link to all Visual Studio $ variables

Ok, I finally wanted to have a pretty complete, searchable list of those variables for reference. Here is a complete (OCR-generated, as I did not easily find something akin to a printenv command) list of defined variables for a Visual C++ project on my machine. Probably not all macros are defined for others (e.g. OCTAVE_EXECUTABLE), but I wanted to err on the side of inclusiveness here.

For example, this is the first time that I see $(Language) (expanding to C++ for this project) being mentioned outside of the IDE.

Where to find this list within Visual Studio:

  1. Open your C++ project's dialogue Property Pages
  2. Select any textual field that can use a configuration variable. (in the screenshot, I use Target Name)
  3. On the right side of the text box, click the small combobox button and select option <Edit...>.
  4. In the new window (here, title is Target Name), click on button Macros>>.
  5. Scroll through the giant list of environment/linker/macro variables.

Default Xmxsize in Java 8 (max heap size)

Like you have mentioned, The default -Xmxsize (Maximum HeapSize) depends on your system configuration.

Java8 client takes Larger of 1/64th of your physical memory for your Xmssize (Minimum HeapSize) and Smaller of 1/4th of your physical memory for your -Xmxsize (Maximum HeapSize).

Which means if you have a physical memory of 8GB RAM, you will have Xmssize as Larger of 8*(1/6) and Smaller of -Xmxsizeas 8*(1/4).

You can Check your default HeapSize with

In Windows:

java -XX:+PrintFlagsFinal -version | findstr /i "HeapSize PermSize ThreadStackSize"

In Linux:

java -XX:+PrintFlagsFinal -version | grep -iE 'HeapSize|PermSize|ThreadStackSize'

These default values can also be overrided to your desired amount.

After installing SQL Server 2014 Express can't find local db

I faced the same issue. Just download and install the SQL Server suite from the following link :http://www.microsoft.com/en-US/download/details.aspx?id=42299

restart your SSMS and you should be able to "Register Local Servers" via right-click on "Local Servers Groups", select "tasks", click "register local servers"

How can I use inverse or negative wildcards when pattern matching in a unix/linux shell?

In Bash you can do it by enabling the extglob option, like this (replace ls with cp and add the target directory, of course)

~/foobar> shopt extglob
extglob        off
~/foobar> ls
abar  afoo  bbar  bfoo
~/foobar> ls !(b*)
-bash: !: event not found
~/foobar> shopt -s extglob  # Enables extglob
~/foobar> ls !(b*)
abar  afoo
~/foobar> ls !(a*)
bbar  bfoo
~/foobar> ls !(*foo)
abar  bbar

You can later disable extglob with

shopt -u extglob

[Vue warn]: Cannot find element

You can solve it in two ways.

  1. Make sure you put the CDN into the end of html page and place your own script after that. Example:
    <body>
      <div id="main">
        <div id="mainActivity" v-component="{{currentActivity}}" class="activity"></div>
      </div>
    </body>
    <script src="https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/npm/[email protected]"></script>
    <script src="js/app.js"></script>

where you need to put same javascript code you wrote in any other JavaScript file or in html file.

  1. Use window.onload function in your JavaScript file.

Firebase FCM force onTokenRefresh() to be called

FirebaseInstanceIdService

This class is deprecated. In favour of overriding onNewToken in FirebaseMessagingService. Once that has been implemented, this service can be safely removed.

The new way to do this would be to override the onNewToken method from FirebaseMessagingService

public class MyFirebaseMessagingService extends FirebaseMessagingService {
    @Override
    public void onNewToken(String s) {
        super.onNewToken(s);
        Log.e("NEW_TOKEN",s);
    }

    @Override
    public void onMessageReceived(RemoteMessage remoteMessage) {
        super.onMessageReceived(remoteMessage);
    }
}

Also dont forget to add the service in the Manifest.xml

<service
    android:name=".MyFirebaseMessagingService"
    android:stopWithTask="false">
    <intent-filter>
        <action android:name="com.google.firebase.MESSAGING_EVENT" />
    </intent-filter>
</service>

Where/How to getIntent().getExtras() in an Android Fragment?

What I tend to do, and I believe this is what Google intended for developers to do too, is to still get the extras from an Intent in an Activity and then pass any extra data to fragments by instantiating them with arguments.

There's actually an example on the Android dev blog that illustrates this concept, and you'll see this in several of the API demos too. Although this specific example is given for API 3.0+ fragments, the same flow applies when using FragmentActivity and Fragment from the support library.

You first retrieve the intent extras as usual in your activity and pass them on as arguments to the fragment:

public static class DetailsActivity extends FragmentActivity {

    @Override
    protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
        super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);

        // (omitted some other stuff)

        if (savedInstanceState == null) {
            // During initial setup, plug in the details fragment.
            DetailsFragment details = new DetailsFragment();
            details.setArguments(getIntent().getExtras());
            getSupportFragmentManager().beginTransaction().add(
                    android.R.id.content, details).commit();
        }
    }
}

In stead of directly invoking the constructor, it's probably easier to use a static method that plugs the arguments into the fragment for you. Such a method is often called newInstance in the examples given by Google. There actually is a newInstance method in DetailsFragment, so I'm unsure why it isn't used in the snippet above...

Anyways, all extras provided as argument upon creating the fragment, will be available by calling getArguments(). Since this returns a Bundle, its usage is similar to that of the extras in an Activity.

public static class DetailsFragment extends Fragment {
    /**
     * Create a new instance of DetailsFragment, initialized to
     * show the text at 'index'.
     */
    public static DetailsFragment newInstance(int index) {
        DetailsFragment f = new DetailsFragment();

        // Supply index input as an argument.
        Bundle args = new Bundle();
        args.putInt("index", index);
        f.setArguments(args);

        return f;
    }

    public int getShownIndex() {
        return getArguments().getInt("index", 0);
    }

    // (other stuff omitted)

}

How to add dll in c# project

The DLL must be present at all times - as the name indicates, a reference only tells VS that you're trying to use stuff from the DLL. In the project file, VS stores the actual path and file name of the referenced DLL. If you move or delete it, VS is not able to find it anymore.

I usually create a libs folder within my project's folder where I copy DLLs that are not installed to the GAC. Then, I actually add this folder to my project in VS (show hidden files in VS, then right-click and "Include in project"). I then reference the DLLs from the folder, so when checking into source control, the library is also checked in. This makes it much easier when more than one developer will have to change the project.

(Please make sure to set the build type to "none" and "don't copy to output folder" for the DLL in your project.)

PS: I use a German Visual Studio, so the captions I quoted may not exactly match the English version...

Maven not found in Mac OSX mavericks

if you don't want to install homebrew (or any other package manager) just for installing maven, you can grab the binary from their site:

http://maven.apache.org/download.cgi

extract the content to a folder (e.g. /Applications/apache-maven-3.1.1) with

and finally adjust your ~/.bash_profile with any texteditor you like to include

export M2_HOME=/Applications/apache-maven-3.1.1
export PATH=$PATH:$M2_HOME/bin

restart the terminal and test it with

High Quality Image Scaling Library

You can try dotImage, one of my company's products, which includes an object for resampling images that has 18 filter types for various levels of quality.

Typical usage is:

// BiCubic is one technique available in PhotoShop
ResampleCommand resampler = new ResampleCommand(newSize, ResampleMethod.BiCubic);
AtalaImage newImage = resampler.Apply(oldImage).Image;

in addition, dotImage includes 140 some odd image processing commands including many filters similar to those in PhotoShop, if that's what you're looking for.

How can I write output from a unit test?

Try using:

Console.WriteLine()

The call to Debug.WriteLine will only be made during when DEBUG is defined.

Other suggestions are to use: Trace.WriteLine as well, but I haven't tried this.

There is also an option (not sure if Visual Studio 2008 has it), but you can still Use Debug.WriteLine when you run the test with Test With Debuggeroption in the IDE.

How can I remove punctuation from input text in Java?

If you don't want to use RegEx (which seems highly unnecessary given your problem), perhaps you should try something like this:

public String modified(final String input){
    final StringBuilder builder = new StringBuilder();
    for(final char c : input.toCharArray())
        if(Character.isLetterOrDigit(c))
            builder.append(Character.isLowerCase(c) ? c : Character.toLowerCase(c));
    return builder.toString();
}

It loops through the underlying char[] in the String and only appends the char if it is a letter or digit (filtering out all symbols, which I am assuming is what you are trying to accomplish) and then appends the lower case version of the char.

How to pass macro definition from "make" command line arguments (-D) to C source code?

Just use a specific variable for that.

$ make USER_DEFINES="-Dfoo=bar"
echo foo | gcc -Dfoo=bar -E -xc -
...

$ make
echo foo | gcc  -E -xc -

What does the construct x = x || y mean?

Whilst Cletus' answer is correct, I feel more detail should be added in regards to "evaluates to false" in JavaScript.

var title = title || 'Error';
var msg   = msg || 'Error on Request';

Is not just checking if title/msg has been provided, but also if either of them are falsy. i.e. one of the following:

  • false.
  • 0 (zero)
  • "" (empty string)
  • null.
  • undefined.
  • NaN (a special Number value meaning Not-a-Number!)

So in the line

var title = title || 'Error';

If title is truthy (i.e., not falsy, so title = "titleMessage" etc.) then the Boolean OR (||) operator has found one 'true' value, which means it evaluates to true, so it short-circuits and returns the true value (title).

If title is falsy (i.e. one of the list above), then the Boolean OR (||) operator has found a 'false' value, and now needs to evaluate the other part of the operator, 'Error', which evaluates to true, and is hence returned.

It would also seem (after some quick firebug console experimentation) if both sides of the operator evaluate to false, it returns the second 'falsy' operator.

i.e.

return ("" || undefined)

returns undefined, this is probably to allow you to use the behavior asked about in this question when trying to default title/message to "". i.e. after running

var foo = undefined
foo = foo || ""

foo would be set to ""

Check if key exists and iterate the JSON array using Python

import json

jsonData = """{"from": {"id": "8", "name": "Mary Pinter"}, "message": "How ARE you?", "comments": {"count": 0}, "updated_time": "2012-05-01", "created_time": "2012-05-01", "to": {"data": [{"id": "1543", "name": "Honey Pinter"}]}, "type": "status", "id": "id_7"}"""

def getTargetIds(jsonData):
    data = json.loads(jsonData)
    if 'to' not in data:
        raise ValueError("No target in given data")
    if 'data' not in data['to']:
        raise ValueError("No data for target")

    for dest in data['to']['data']:
        if 'id' not in dest:
            continue
        targetId = dest['id']
        print("to_id:", targetId)

Output:

In jQuery, how do I get the value of a radio button when they all have the same name?

sqlalchemy filter multiple columns

You can use SQLAlchemy's or_ function to search in more than one column (the underscore is necessary to distinguish it from Python's own or).

Here's an example:

from sqlalchemy import or_
query = meta.Session.query(User).filter(or_(User.firstname.like(searchVar),
                                            User.lastname.like(searchVar)))

100% width table overflowing div container

Well, given your constraints, I think setting overflow: scroll; on the .page div is probably your only option. 280 px is pretty narrow, and given your font size, word wrapping alone isn't going to do it. Some words are just long and can't be wrapped. You can either reduce your font size drastically or go with overflow: scroll.

What are the differences between Deferred, Promise and Future in JavaScript?

A Promise represents a proxy for a value not necessarily known when the promise is created. It allows you to associate handlers to an asynchronous action's eventual success value or failure reason. This lets asynchronous methods return values like synchronous methods: instead of the final value, the asynchronous method returns a promise of having a value at some point in the future.

https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/JavaScript/Reference/Global_Objects/Promise

The deferred.promise() method allows an asynchronous function to prevent other code from interfering with the progress or status of its internal request. The Promise exposes only the Deferred methods needed to attach additional handlers or determine the state (then, done, fail, always, pipe, progress, state and promise), but not ones that change the state (resolve, reject, notify, resolveWith, rejectWith, and notifyWith).

If target is provided, deferred.promise() will attach the methods onto it and then return this object rather than create a new one. This can be useful to attach the Promise behavior to an object that already exists.

If you are creating a Deferred, keep a reference to the Deferred so that it can be resolved or rejected at some point. Return only the Promise object via deferred.promise() so other code can register callbacks or inspect the current state.

Simply we can say that a Promise represents a value that is not yet known where as a Deferred represents work that is not yet finished.

JAVA - using FOR, WHILE and DO WHILE loops to sum 1 through 100

Well, a for or while loop differs from a do while loop. A do while executes the statements atleast once, even if the condition turns out to be false.

The for loop you specified is absolutely correct.

Although i will do all the loops for you once again.

int sum = 0;
// for loop

for (int i = 1; i<= 100; i++){
    sum = sum + i;
}
System.out.println(sum);

// while loop

sum = 0;
int j = 1;

while(j<=100){
    sum = sum + j;
    j++;
}

System.out.println(sum);

// do while loop

sum = 0;
j = 1;

do{
    sum = sum + j;
    j++;
}
while(j<=100);

System.out.println(sum);

In the last case condition j <= 100 is because, even if the condition of do while turns false, it will still execute once but that doesn't matter in this case as the condition turns true, so it continues to loop just like any other loop statement.

$watch an object

For anyone that wants to watch for a change to an object within an array of objects, this seemed to work for me (as the other solutions on this page didn't):

function MyController($scope) {

    $scope.array = [
        data1: {
            name: 'name',
            surname: 'surname'
        },
        data2: {
            name: 'name',
            surname: 'surname'
        },
    ]

    $scope.$watch(function() {
        return $scope.data,
    function(newVal, oldVal){
        console.log(newVal, oldVal);
    }, true);

Convert integer into byte array (Java)

You can use BigInteger:

From Integers:

byte[] array = BigInteger.valueOf(0xAABBCCDD).toByteArray();
System.out.println(Arrays.toString(array))
// --> {-86, -69, -52, -35 }

The returned array is of the size that is needed to represent the number, so it could be of size 1, to represent 1 for example. However, the size cannot be more than four bytes if an int is passed.

From Strings:

BigInteger v = new BigInteger("AABBCCDD", 16);
byte[] array = v.toByteArray();

However, you will need to watch out, if the first byte is higher 0x7F (as is in this case), where BigInteger would insert a 0x00 byte to the beginning of the array. This is needed to distinguish between positive and negative values.

Pandas count(distinct) equivalent

Distinct of column along with aggregations on other columns

To get the distinct number of values for any column (CLIENTCODE in your case), we can use nunique. We can pass the input as a dictionary in agg function, along with aggregations on other columns:

grp_df = df.groupby('YEARMONTH').agg({'CLIENTCODE': ['nunique'],
                                      'other_col_1': ['sum', 'count']})

# to flatten the multi-level columns
grp_df.columns = ["_".join(col).strip() for col in grp_df.columns.values]

# if you wish to reset the index
grp_df.reset_index(inplace=True)

SO, clearly strcmp('KU', strs) takes much lesser time than ismember(strs,'KU')

Safe Area of Xcode 9

I want to mention something that caught me first when I was trying to adapt a SpriteKit-based app to avoid the round edges and "notch" of the new iPhone X, as suggested by the latest Human Interface Guidelines: The new property safeAreaLayoutGuide of UIView needs to be queried after the view has been added to the hierarchy (for example, on -viewDidAppear:) in order to report a meaningful layout frame (otherwise, it just returns the full screen size).

From the property's documentation:

The layout guide representing the portion of your view that is unobscured by bars and other content. When the view is visible onscreen, this guide reflects the portion of the view that is not covered by navigation bars, tab bars, toolbars, and other ancestor views. (In tvOS, the safe area reflects the area not covered the screen's bezel.) If the view is not currently installed in a view hierarchy, or is not yet visible onscreen, the layout guide edges are equal to the edges of the view.

(emphasis mine)

If you read it as early as -viewDidLoad:, the layoutFrame of the guide will be {{0, 0}, {375, 812}} instead of the expected {{0, 44}, {375, 734}}

How to use ScrollView in Android?

How to use ScrollView

Using ScrollView is not very difficult. You can just add one to your layout and put whatever you want to scroll inside. ScrollView only takes one child so if you want to put a few things inside then you should make the first thing be something like a LinearLayout.

<ScrollView
    android:layout_width="match_parent"
    android:layout_height="match_parent">

    <LinearLayout
        android:layout_width="match_parent"
        android:layout_height="wrap_content"
        android:orientation="vertical">

        <!-- things to scroll -->

    </LinearLayout>
</ScrollView>

If you want to scroll things horizontally, then use a HorizontalScrollView.

Making the content fill the screen

As is talked about in this post, sometimes you want the ScrollView content to fill the screen. For example, if you had some buttons at the end of a readme. You want the buttons to always be at the end of the text and at bottom of the screen, even if the text doesn't scroll.

If the content scrolls, everything is fine. However, if the content is smaller than the size of the screen, the buttons are not at the bottom.

enter image description here

This can be solved with a combination of using fillViewPort on the ScrollView and using a layout weight on the content. Using fillViewPort makes the ScrollView fill the parent area. Setting the layout_weight on one of the views in the LinearLayout makes that view expand to fill any extra space.

enter image description here

Here is the XML

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>

Displaying better error message than "No JSON object could be decoded"

You could use cjson, that claims to be up to 250 times faster than pure-python implementations, given that you have "some long complicated JSON file" and you will probably need to run it several times (decoders fail and report the first error they encounter only).

How do I get the YouTube video ID from a URL?

As webstrap mentioned in a comment:

It worked if the video start with "v" and it's from youtu.be

The regex contains a little bug \??v?=? this should just be at the watch part, otherwise you would filter a 'v' if the id starts with a 'v'. so this should do the trick

/^.*((youtu.be\/)|(v\/)|(\/u\/\w\/)|(embed\/)|(watch\??v?=?))([^#\&\?]*).*/
