@Jon's answer is great and will get you where you need to go. So why is your code printing out what it is. The answer: You're not writing out the contents of your list, but the String representation of your list itself, by an implicit call to Lists.verbList.ToString(). Object.ToString() defines the default behavior you're seeing here.

Lightweight workflow engine for Java

The question is what you really want to achieve when you asking for a workflow engine.

The general goal which you would like to achieve by using a workflow engine, is to become more flexible in changing your business logic during runtime. The modelling part is surely one of the most important here. BPMN 2.0 is a de-facto standard in this area and all of the discussed engines support this standard.

The second goal is to control the business process in the way of describing the 'what should happen when...' questions. And this part has a lot to do with the business requirements you are confronted within your project.

Some of the workflow engines (Activity, JBPM) can help you to answer this requirement by 'coding' your processes. This means that you model the 'what should happen when..' paradigm in a way, where you decide which part of your code (e.g a task or an event) should be executed by the workflow engine in various situations. A lot of discussion is going about this concept. And developers naturally ask whether this may not even be implemented by themselves. (It is in fact not so easy as it seems at the first glance)

Some other workflow engines (Imixs-Workflow, Bonita) can help you to answer the 'what should happen when...' requirement in a more user-centric way. This is the area of Human-centric business process management, which supports human skills and activities by a task orientated workflow-engine. The focus is more on the distribution of tasks and processes inside an organisation. The workflow engine helps you to distribute a task to a certain user or user group and to secure, log and monitor a long running business process. Maybe these are the things you do not really want to implement by yourself.

So my advice is, not to mix things that need to be considered separately, because workflow covers a very wide area.

The java instanceof operator is used to test whether the object is an instance of the specified type (class or subclass or interface).

The instanceof in java is also known as type comparison operator as it compares the instance with type. It returns either true or false. If we apply the instanceof operator with any variable that has null value, it returns false.

From JDK 14+ which includes JEP 305 we can also do "Pattern Matching" for instanceof

Patterns basically test that a value has a certain type, and can extract information from the value when it has the matching type. Pattern matching allows a more clear and efficient expression of common logic in a system, namely the conditional removal of components from objects.

We can also combine the type check and other conditions together

The use of pattern matching in instanceof should reduce the overall number of explicit casts in Java programs.

PS: instanceOf will only match when the object is not null, then only it can be assigned to str.

Something like the standard Collection.toArray(T[]) should do what you need (note that ArrayList implements Collection):

On a side note, you should consider defining a to be of type List<TypeA> rather than ArrayList<TypeA>, this avoid some implementation specific definition that may not really be applicable for your application.

The \( ! -name . \) avoids executing the command in current directory.

What does .class mean in Java?

It's a generics literal. It means that you don't know the type of class this Class instance is representing, but you are still using the generic version.

  • if you knew the class, you'd use Class<Foo>. That way you can create a new instance, for example, without casting: Foo foo = clazz.newInstance();
  • if you don't use generics at all, you'll get a warning at least (and not using generics is generally discouraged as it may lead to hard-to-detect side effects)

TypeError: 'NoneType' object is not iterable in Python

Another thing that can produce this error is when you are setting something equal to the return from a function, but forgot to actually return anything.

Example:

If your only returning one variable from a function, I am not sure if the error would be produced... I suspect error "'NoneType' object is not iterable in Python" in this case is actually implying "Hey, I'm trying to iterate over the return values to assign them to these three variables in order but I'm only getting None to iterate over"

PHP-FPM doesn't write to error log

I gathered insights from a bunch of answers here and I present a comprehensive solution:

So, if you setup nginx with php5-fpm and log a message using error_log() you can see it in /var/log/nginx/error.log by default.

A problem can arise if you want to log a lot of data (say an array) using error_log(print_r($myArr, true));. If an array is large enough, it seems that nginx will truncate your log entry.

To get around this you can configure fpm (php.net fpm config) to manage logs. Here are the steps to do so.

  1. Open /etc/php5/fpm/pool.d/www.conf:

    $ sudo nano /etc/php5/fpm/pool.d/www.conf

  2. Uncomment the following two lines by removing ; at the beginning of the line: (error_log is defined here: php.net)

    ;php_admin_value[error_log] = /var/log/fpm-php.www.log ;php_admin_flag[log_errors] = on

  3. Create /var/log/fpm-php.www.log:

    $ sudo touch /var/log/fpm-php.www.log;

  4. Change ownership of /var/log/fpm-php.www.log so that php5-fpm can edit it:

    $ sudo chown vagrant /var/log/fpm-php.www.log

    Note: vagrant is the user that I need to give ownership to. You can see what user this should be for you by running $ ps aux | grep php.*www and looking at first column.

  5. Restart php5-fpm:

    $ sudo service php5-fpm restart

Now your logs will be in /var/log/fpm-php.www.log.

Clear is faster because it does not loop over elements to delete. This method can assume that ALL elements can be deleted.

Remove all does not necessarily mean delete all elements in the list, only those provided as parameters SHOULD be delete. Hence, more effort is required to keep those which should not be deleted.

CLARIFICATION

By 'loop', I mean it does not have to check whether the element should be kept or not. It can set the reference to null without searching through the provided lists of elements to delete.

It is 2020 (7 years later) and I have learned more about Linux during this time. Specifically that it might not be a good idea to run sudo make install when installing libraries, as these may interfere with the package management system. (In this case apt as I am using Debian 10.)

If this is not correct, please correct me in the comments.

Alternative proposed solution

This information is taken from the GLFW docs, however I have expanded/streamlined the information which is relevant to Linux users.

  • Go to home directory and clone glfw repository from github

cd glfw
  • You can at this point create a build directory and follow the instructions here (glfw build instructions), however I chose not to do that. The following command still seems to work in 2020 however it is not explicitly stated by the glfw online instructions.

  • You may need to run sudo apt-get build-dep glfw3 before (?). I ran both this command and sudo apt install xorg-dev as per the instructions.

  • Finally run make

  • Now in your project directory, do the following. (Go to your project which uses the glfw libs)

  • There is some way of creating a dynamic linked lib. I believe I have used the static method here. Please comment / add a section in this answer below if you know more than I do

There are 2 options to find matching text; string.match or string.find.

Both of these perform a regex search on the string to find matches.


string.find()

string.find(subject string, pattern string, optional start position, optional plain flag)

Returns the startIndex & endIndex of the substring found.

The plain flag allows for the pattern to be ignored and intead be interpreted as a literal. Rather than (tiger) being interpreted as a regex capture group matching for tiger, it instead looks for (tiger) within a string.

Going the other way, if you want to regex match but still want literal special characters (such as .()[]+- etc.), you can escape them with a percentage; %(tiger%).

The solution from Xavier Ho of doubling the width of the stroke and changing the paint-order is brilliant, although only works if the fill is a solid color, with no transparency.

I have developed other approach, more complicated but works for any fill. It also works in ellipses or paths (with the later there are some corner cases with strange behaviour, for example open paths that crosses theirselves, but not much).

The trick is to display the shape in two layers. One without stroke (only fill), and another one only with stroke at double width (transparent fill) and passed through a mask that shows the whole shape, but hides the original shape without stroke.

...but in a web server environment you will probably find that you are already working from current file's working directory, so you can probably just use:

CodeIgniter 404 Page Not Found, but why?

Leaving this answer here for others who ran into my situation.

My codeigniter app was working fine in localhost/WAMP, but was unable to route and produced 404 not found errors when pushing to an AWS EC2 instance. My issue was solved from the answer from HERE htaccess works in localhost but doesn't work in EC2 instance

(route to my admin page) {domain}/admin was producing 404

the /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf file needs to be modified.

-after every instance of "DocumentRoot "/var/www/html"" (2 places) "AllowOverride None" needed to be changed to "AllowOverride All".

Restarted the EC2 instance from the AWS dashboard.

{domain}/admin is now accessible and working as intended.

I had this error and it wasn't related with the DB constrains (at least in my case). I have an .xsd file with a GetRecord query that returns a group of records. One of the columns of that table was "nvarchar(512)" and in the middle of the project I needed to changed it to "nvarchar(MAX)".

Everything worked fine until the user entered more than 512 on that field and we begin to get the famous error message "Failed to enable constraints. One or more rows contain values violating non-null, unique, or foreign-key constraints."

Solution: Check all the MaxLength property of the columns in your DataTable.

The column that I changed from "nvarchar(512)" to "nvarchar(MAX)" still had the 512 value on the MaxLength property so I changed to "-1" and it works!!.

Could not find the main class, program will exit

I had this problem when I "upgraded" to Windows 7, which is 64-bit. My go to Java JRE is a 64-bit JVM. I had a 32-bit JRE on my machine for my browser, so I set up a system variable:

Technically exports and module.exports should point to same reference(thats correct!!). But we use "=" when assigning function().... to exports, which creates another object in the memory. So, module.exports and exports produce different results. When it comes to exports we can't override it.

Now, imagine you re-write (this is called Mutation) greet.js (referring to Renee answer) as

As you can see module.exports and exports are pointing to same reference which is a function. If you set a property on exports then it will be set on module.exports because in JS, objects are pass by reference.

If you've got something more general, then you'll have to do some kind of recursive update on the dictionary. Check if the element is a dictionary, if it is, use the recursive update. There's no built-in function for this and it can be quite ugly (and non-pythonic since it usually requires calling isinstance).

What's missing from all the explanations is the fact that Java has a strict rule of class name = file name. Meaning if you have a class "Person", is must be in a file named "Person.java". Therefore, if one class tries to access "Person" the filename is not necessary, because it has got to be "Person.java".

Coming for C/C++, I have exact same issue. The answer is to create a new class (in a new file matching class name) and create a public string. This will be your "header" file. Then use that in your main file by using "extends" keyword.

Here is your answer:

  1. Create a file called Include.java. In this file, add this:

A user there was king enough to help me find the solution I was looking for and i wanted to share so that any following suers running into this may find it:

grep -P "(^|\s)abc(\s|$)" gives the result I was looking for. -P is an experimental implementation of perl regexps.

grepping for abc and then using filters like grep -v '@abc' (this is far from perfect...) should also work, but my patch does something similar.

How to automatically import data from uploaded CSV or XLS file into Google Sheets

(Mar 2017) The accepted answer is not the best solution. It relies on manual translation using Apps Script, and the code may not be resilient, requiring maintenance. If your legacy system autogenerates CSV files, it's best they go into another folder for temporary processing (importing [uploading to Google Drive & converting] to Google Sheets files).

My thought is to let the Drive API do all the heavy-lifting. The Google Drive API team released v3 at the end of 2015, and in that release, insert() changed names to create() so as to better reflect the file operation. There's also no more convert flag -- you just specify MIMEtypes... imagine that!

The documentation has also been improved: there's now a special guide devoted to uploads (simple, multipart, and resumable) that comes with sample code in Java, Python, PHP, C#/.NET, Ruby, JavaScript/Node.js, and iOS/Obj-C that imports CSV files into Google Sheets format as desired.

Below is one alternate Python solution for short files ("simple upload") where you don't need the apiclient.http.MediaFileUpload class. This snippet assumes your auth code works where your service endpoint is DRIVE with a minimum auth scope of https://www.googleapis.com/auth/drive.file.

To convert back to DataFrame from RDD we need to define the structure type of the RDD.

If the datatype was Long then it will become as LongType in structure.

If String then StringType in structure.

Now you can convert the RDD to DataFrame using the createDataFrame method.

Output a NULL cell value in Excel

As you've indicated, you can't output NULL in an excel formula. I think this has to do with the fact that the formula itself causes the cell to not be able to be NULL. "" is the next best thing, but sometimes it's useful to use 0.

I'm not familiar with VSTO I'm afraid. So I won't be much help there. But if you are really placing formulas in the cell, then there really is no way. ISBLANK() only tests to see if a cell is blank or not, it doesn't have a way to make it blank. It's possible to write code in VBA (and VSTO I imagine) that would run on a worksheet_change event and update the various values instead of using formulas. But that would be cumbersome and performance would take a hit.

If you have the capability to do so, I would recommend using either mod-jk or mod-proxy-ajp to pass requests from Apache to JBoss. The AJP protocol is much more efficient compared to using HTTP proxy requests and as a benefit, JBoss will see the request as coming from the original client and not Apache.

This prints out a nicely formatted and tabbed output showing all the hierarchy of keys and values in the object.

The &1 will be replaced with the first value passed to the SQL script, BUILDING; because that is a string it still needs to be enclosed in quotes. You might want to set verify off to stop if showing you the substitutions in the output.


You can pass multiple values, and refer to them sequentially just as you would positional parameters in a shell script - the first passed parameter is &1, the second is &2, etc. You can use substitution variables anywhere in the SQL script, so they can be used as column aliases with no problem - you just have to be careful adding an extra parameter that you either add it to the end of the list (which makes the numbering out of order in the script, potentially) or adjust everything to match:

or:

That might not be easy to use if you're running it multiple times, as it will appear as a header above the count value in each bit of output. Maybe this would be more parsable later:

If you set pages 0 and set heading off, your repeated calls might appear in a neat list. You might also need to set tab off and possibly use rpad('&1', 20) or similar to make that column always the same width. Or get the results as CSV with:

I'm usually facing this problem when dealing with events from an input field, like key up. But remember that the event could stem from anywhere, e.g. from a keyup listener on document, where there is no associated value. So in order to correctly provide the information I'd provide an additional type:

What is the difference between a Shared Project and a Class Library in Visual Studio 2015?

I found some more information from this blog.

  • In a Class Library, when code is compiled, assemblies (dlls) are generated for each library. But with Shared Project it will not contain any header information so when you have a Shared Project reference it will be compiled as part of the parent application. There will not be separate dlls created.
  • In class library you are only allowed to write C# code while shared project can have any thing like C# code files, XAML files or JavaScript files etc.
