ASIHTTPRequest, a deprecated and outdated framework to replace NSURLConnection on iOS and OS X.

ios Upload Image and Text using HTTP POST

Here is a Swift version. Note that if you do not want to send form data it is still important to send the empty form boundary. Flask in particular expects form data followed by file data and will not populate request.files without the first boundary.

  let composedData = NSMutableData()

  // Set content type header
  let BoundaryConstant = "--------------------------3d74a90a3bfb8696"
  let contentType = "multipart/form-data; boundary=\(BoundaryConstant)"
  request.setValue(contentType, forHTTPHeaderField: "Content-Type")

  // Empty form boundary
  composedData.appendData("--\(BoundaryConstant)\r\n".dataUsingEncoding(NSUTF8StringEncoding)!)

  // Build multipart form to send image
  composedData.appendData("--\(BoundaryConstant)\r\n".dataUsingEncoding(NSUTF8StringEncoding)!)
  composedData.appendData("Content-Disposition: form-data; name=\"file\"; filename=\"image.jpg\"\r\n".dataUsingEncoding(NSUTF8StringEncoding)!)
  composedData.appendData("Content-Type: image/jpeg\r\n\r\n".dataUsingEncoding(NSUTF8StringEncoding)!)
  composedData.appendData(rawData!)
  composedData.appendData("\r\n".dataUsingEncoding(NSUTF8StringEncoding)!)
  composedData.appendData("--\(BoundaryConstant)--\r\n".dataUsingEncoding(NSUTF8StringEncoding)!)

  request.HTTPBody = composedData

  // Get content length
  let length = "\(composedData.length)"
  request.setValue(length, forHTTPHeaderField: "Content-Length")

Undefined symbols for architecture armv7

I didn't find this suggestion here so here it goes: if your project has more than one target (ie one for OSX and one for iOS) then you must link the relevant libraries for each target.. so for example in my case I needed AudioToolbox.. I had to add it once for OSX and once for iOS (under the frameworks folder, you must have a duplicate of each library for each target.. if you see only one.. then that's a red flag)

symbol(s) not found for architecture i386

I've been stumped by this one before only to realize I added a data-only @interface and forgot to add the empty @implementation block.

You have not accepted the license agreements of the following SDK components

For Windows users w/o using Andoid Studio:

  1. Go to the location of your sdkmanager.bat file. Per default it is at Android\sdk\tools\bin inside the %LOCALAPPDATA% folder.

  2. Open a terminal window there by typing cmd into the title bar

  3. Type

    sdkmanager.bat --licenses

  4. Accept all licenses with 'y'

WARNING: Setting property 'source' to 'org.eclipse.jst.jee.server:appname' did not find a matching property

Despite this question being rather old, I had to deal with a similar warning and wanted to share what I found out.

First of all this is a warning and not an error. So there is no need to worry too much about it. Basically it means, that Tomcat does not know what to do with the source attribute from context.

This source attribute is set by Eclipse (or to be more specific the Eclipse Web Tools Platform) to the server.xml file of Tomcat to match the running application to a project in workspace.

Tomcat generates a warning for every unknown markup in the server.xml (i.e. the source attribute) and this is the source of the warning. You can safely ignore it.

CSS transition shorthand with multiple properties?

Syntax:

transition: <property> || <duration> || <timing-function> || <delay> [, ...];

Note that the duration must come before the delay, if the latter is specified.

Individual transitions combined in shorthand declarations:

-webkit-transition: height 0.3s ease-out, opacity 0.3s ease 0.5s;
-moz-transition: height 0.3s ease-out, opacity 0.3s ease 0.5s;
-o-transition: height 0.3s ease-out, opacity 0.3s ease 0.5s;
transition: height 0.3s ease-out, opacity 0.3s ease 0.5s;

Or just transition them all:

-webkit-transition: all 0.3s ease-out;
-moz-transition: all 0.3s ease-out;
-o-transition: all 0.3s ease-out;
transition: all 0.3s ease-out;

Here is a straightforward example. Here is another one with the delay property.

Edit: previously listed here were the compatibilities and known issues regarding transition. Removed for readability.

Bottom-line: just use it. The nature of this property is non-breaking for all applications and compatibility is now well above 94% globally.

If you still want to be sure, refer to http://caniuse.com/css-transitions

How do I change the string representation of a Python class?

The closest equivalent to Java's toString is to implement __str__ for your class. Put this in your class definition:

def __str__(self):
     return "foo"

You may also want to implement __repr__ to aid in debugging.

See here for more information:

How do you check if a certain index exists in a table?

If the hidden purpose of your question is to DROP the index before making INSERT to a large table, then this is useful one-liner:

DROP INDEX IF EXISTS [IndexName] ON [dbo].[TableName]

This syntax is available since SQL Server 2016. Documentation for IF EXISTS:

https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/sqlserverstorageengine/2015/11/03/drop-if-exists-new-thing-in-sql-server-2016/

In case you deal with a primery key instead, then use this:

ALTER TABLE [TableName] DROP CONSTRAINT IF EXISTS [PK_name]

jquery multiple checkboxes array

This way will let you add or remove values when you check or uncheck any checkbox named as options[]:

var checkedValues = [];
$("input[name='options[]']").change(function() {
    const intValue = parseInt($(this).val());
    if ($(this).is(':checked')) {
        checkedValues.push(value);
    } else {
        const index = checkedValues.indexOf(value);
        if (index > -1) {
           checkedValues.splice(index, 1);
        }
    }
 });

How to restart a rails server on Heroku?

If you have several heroku apps, you must type heroku restart --app app_name or heroku restart -a app_name

What is move semantics?

I'm writing this to make sure I understand it properly.

Move semantics were created to avoid the unnecessary copying of large objects. Bjarne Stroustrup in his book "The C++ Programming Language" uses two examples where unnecessary copying occurs by default: one, the swapping of two large objects, and two, the returning of a large object from a method.

Swapping two large objects usually involves copying the first object to a temporary object, copying the second object to the first object, and copying the temporary object to the second object. For a built-in type, this is very fast, but for large objects these three copies could take a large amount of time. A "move assignment" allows the programmer to override the default copy behavior and instead swap references to the objects, which means that there is no copying at all and the swap operation is much faster. The move assignment can be invoked by calling the std::move() method.

Returning an object from a method by default involves making a copy of the local object and its associated data in a location which is accessible to the caller (because the local object is not accessible to the caller and disappears when the method finishes). When a built-in type is being returned, this operation is very fast, but if a large object is being returned, this could take a long time. The move constructor allows the programmer to override this default behavior and instead "reuse" the heap data associated with the local object by pointing the object being returned to the caller to heap data associated with the local object. Thus no copying is required.

In languages which do not allow the creation of local objects (that is, objects on the stack) these types of problems do not occur as all objects are allocated on the heap and are always accessed by reference.

How to use XPath in Python?

You can use:

PyXML:

from xml.dom.ext.reader import Sax2
from xml import xpath
doc = Sax2.FromXmlFile('foo.xml').documentElement
for url in xpath.Evaluate('//@Url', doc):
  print url.value

libxml2:

import libxml2
doc = libxml2.parseFile('foo.xml')
for url in doc.xpathEval('//@Url'):
  print url.content

How can I find which tables reference a given table in Oracle SQL Developer?

You may be able to query this from the ALL_CONSTRAINTS view:

SELECT table_name
FROM ALL_CONSTRAINTS
WHERE constraint_type = 'R' -- "Referential integrity"
  AND r_constraint_name IN
    ( SELECT constraint_name
      FROM ALL_CONSTRAINTS
      WHERE table_name = 'EMP'
        AND constraint_type IN ('U', 'P') -- "Unique" or "Primary key"
    );

How to format a java.sql.Timestamp(yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss.S) to a date(yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss)

You do not need to use substring at all since your format doesn't hold that info.

SimpleDateFormat format = new SimpleDateFormat("yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss");
String fechaStr = "2013-10-10 10:49:29.10000";
Date fechaNueva = format.parse(fechaStr);

System.out.println(format.format(fechaNueva)); // Prints 2013-10-10 10:49:29

How to manually set an authenticated user in Spring Security / SpringMVC

I couldn't find any other full solutions so I thought I would post mine. This may be a bit of a hack, but it resolved the issue to the above problem:

public void login(HttpServletRequest request, String userName, String password)
{

    UsernamePasswordAuthenticationToken authRequest = new UsernamePasswordAuthenticationToken(userName, password);

    // Authenticate the user
    Authentication authentication = authenticationManager.authenticate(authRequest);
    SecurityContext securityContext = SecurityContextHolder.getContext();
    securityContext.setAuthentication(authentication);

    // Create a new session and add the security context.
    HttpSession session = request.getSession(true);
    session.setAttribute("SPRING_SECURITY_CONTEXT", securityContext);
}

How to make pylab.savefig() save image for 'maximized' window instead of default size

If I understand correctly what you want to do, you can create your figure and set the size of the window. Afterwards, you can save your graph with the matplotlib toolbox button. Here an example:

from pylab import get_current_fig_manager,show,plt,imshow

plt.Figure()
thismanager = get_current_fig_manager()
thismanager.window.wm_geometry("500x500+0+0")
#in this case 500 is the size (in pixel) of the figure window. In your case you want to maximise to the size of your screen or whatever

imshow(your_data)
show()

How do I timestamp every ping result?

Try this line.

while sleep 1;do echo "$(date +%d-%m-%y-%T) $(ping -c 1 whatever.com | gawk 'FNR==2{print "Response from:",$4,$8}')" | tee -a /yourfolder/pingtest.log;done

You'll have to cancel it with ctrl-c tho.

how to clear JTable

I think you meant that you want to clear all the cells in the jTable and make it just like a new blank jTable. For an example, if your table is myTable, you can do following.

DefaultTableModel model = new DefaultTableModel();
myTable.setModel(model);

When restoring a backup, how do I disconnect all active connections?

I ran across this problem while automating a restore proccess in SQL Server 2008. My (successfull) approach was a mix of two of the answers provided.

First, I run across all the connections of said database, and kill them.

DECLARE @SPID int = (SELECT TOP 1 SPID FROM sys.sysprocess WHERE dbid = db_id('dbName'))
While @spid Is Not Null
Begin
        Execute ('Kill ' + @spid)
        Select @spid = top 1 spid from master.dbo.sysprocesses
        where dbid = db_id('dbName')
End

Then, I set the database to a single_user mode

ALTER DATABASE dbName SET SINGLE_USER

Then, I run the restore...

RESTORE DATABASE and whatnot

Kill the connections again

(same query as above)

And set the database back to multi_user.

ALTER DATABASE dbName SET MULTI_USER

This way, I ensure that there are no connections holding up the database before setting to single mode, since the former will freeze if there are.

.toLowerCase not working, replacement function?

Numbers inherit from the Number constructor which doesn't have the .toLowerCase method. You can look it up as a matter of fact:

"toLowerCase" in Number.prototype; // false

MySQL search and replace some text in a field

I used the above command line as follow: update TABLE-NAME set FIELD = replace(FIELD, 'And', 'and'); the purpose was to replace And with and ("A" should be lowercase). The problem is it cannot find the "And" in database, but if I use like "%And%" then it can find it along with many other ands that are part of a word or even the ones that are already lowercase.

How to select count with Laravel's fluent query builder?

You can use an array in the select() to define more columns and you can use the DB::raw() there with aliasing it to followers. Should look like this:

$query = DB::table('category_issue')
    ->select(array('issues.*', DB::raw('COUNT(issue_subscriptions.issue_id) as followers')))
    ->where('category_id', '=', 1)
    ->join('issues', 'category_issue.issue_id', '=', 'issues.id')
    ->left_join('issue_subscriptions', 'issues.id', '=', 'issue_subscriptions.issue_id')
    ->group_by('issues.id')
    ->order_by('followers', 'desc')
    ->get();

How to set Highcharts chart maximum yAxis value

Taking help from above answer link mentioned in the above answer sets the max value with option

yAxis: { max: 100 },

On similar line min value can be set.So if you want to set min-max value then

yAxis: {
   min: 0,
   max: 100
},

If you are using HighRoller php library for integration if Highchart graphs then you just need to set the option

$series->yAxis->min=0;
$series->yAxis->max=100;

Getting 400 bad request error in Jquery Ajax POST

You need to build query from "data" object using the following function

function buildQuery(obj) {
        var Result= '';
        if(typeof(obj)== 'object') {
            jQuery.each(obj, function(key, value) {
                Result+= (Result) ? '&' : '';
                if(typeof(value)== 'object' && value.length) {
                    for(var i=0; i<value.length; i++) {
                        Result+= [key+'[]', encodeURIComponent(value[i])].join('=');
                    }
                } else {
                    Result+= [key, encodeURIComponent(value)].join('=');
                }
            });
        }
        return Result;
    }

and then proceed with

var data= {
"subject:title":"Test Name",
"subject:description":"Creating test subject to check POST method API",
"sub:tags": ["facebook:work, facebook:likes"],
"sampleSize" : 10,
"values": ["science", "machine-learning"]
}

$.ajax({

  url: "http://localhost:8080/project/server/rest/subjects",
  data: buildQuery(data),
  error: function(e) {
    console.log(e);

});

Device not detected in Eclipse when connected with USB cable

For me the problem is with Defective USB Cable. I have tried those above all answers. Nothing gives me any fix. But finally i came to know the problem is because of my usb cable while changing the usb cable. While connecting through the usb cable the phone is charging but the drivers are not installed. Some usb cable don't have the option for that. So while buying check it and buy.

keycode 13 is for which key

No Multiline Lambda in Python: Why not?

On the subject of ugly hacks, you can always use a combination of exec and a regular function to define a multiline function like this:

f = exec('''
def mlambda(x, y):
    d = y - x
    return d * d
''', globals()) or mlambda

You can wrap this into a function like:

def mlambda(signature, *lines):
    exec_vars = {}
    exec('def mlambda' + signature + ':\n' + '\n'.join('\t' + line for line in lines), exec_vars)
    return exec_vars['mlambda']

f = mlambda('(x, y)',
            'd = y - x',
            'return d * d')

Can I use DIV class and ID together in CSS?

#y.x should work. And it's convenient too. You can make a page with different kinds of output. You can give a certain element an id, but give it different classes depending on the look you want.

What is FCM token in Firebase?

Here is simple steps add this gradle:

dependencies {
  compile "com.google.firebase:firebase-messaging:9.0.0"
}

No extra permission are needed in manifest like GCM. No receiver is needed to manifest like GCM. With FCM, com.google.android.gms.gcm.GcmReceiver is added automatically.

Migrate your listener service

A service extending InstanceIDListenerService is now required only if you want to access the FCM token.

This is needed if you want to

  • Manage device tokens to send a messages to single device directly, or Send messages to device group, or
  • Send messages to device group, or
  • Subscribe devices to topics with the server subscription management API.

Add Service in manifest

<service
    android:name=".MyInstanceIDListenerService">
    <intent-filter>
        <action android:name="com.google.firebase.INSTANCE_ID_EVENT" />
    </intent-filter>
</service>

<service
    android:name=".MyFirebaseInstanceIDService">
    <intent-filter>
        <action android:name="com.google.firebase.INSTANCE_ID_EVENT"/>
    </intent-filter>
</service>

Change MyInstanceIDListenerService to extend FirebaseInstanceIdService, and update code to listen for token updates and get the token whenever a new token is generated.

public class MyInstanceIDListenerService extends FirebaseInstanceIdService {

  ...

  /**
   * Called if InstanceID token is updated. This may occur if the security of
   * the previous token had been compromised. Note that this is also called
   * when the InstanceID token is initially generated, so this is where
   * you retrieve the token.
   */
  // [START refresh_token]
  @Override
  public void onTokenRefresh() {
      // Get updated InstanceID token.
      String refreshedToken = FirebaseInstanceId.getInstance().getToken();
      Log.d(TAG, "Refreshed token: " + refreshedToken);
      // TODO: Implement this method to send any registration to your app's servers.
      sendRegistrationToServer(refreshedToken);
  }

}

Java Long primitive type maximum limit

It will overflow and wrap around to Long.MIN_VALUE.

Its not too likely though. Even if you increment 1,000,000 times per second it will take about 300,000 years to overflow.

Create SQL identity as primary key?

Simple change to syntax is all that is needed:

 create table ImagenesUsuario (
   idImagen int not null identity(1,1) primary key
 )

By explicitly using the "constraint" keyword, you can give the primary key constraint a particular name rather than depending on SQL Server to auto-assign a name:

 create table ImagenesUsuario (
   idImagen int not null identity(1,1) constraint pk_ImagenesUsario primary key
 )

Add the "CLUSTERED" keyword if that makes the most sense based on your use of the table (i.e., the balance of searches for a particular idImagen and amount of writing outweighs the benefits of clustering the table by some other index).

Initialising an array of fixed size in python

An easy solution is x = [None]*length, but note that it initializes all list elements to None. If the size is really fixed, you can do x=[None,None,None,None,None] as well. But strictly speaking, you won't get undefined elements either way because this plague doesn't exist in Python.

Responsively change div size keeping aspect ratio

Bumming off Chris's idea, another option is to use pseudo elements so you don't need to use an absolutely positioned internal element.

<style>
.square {
    /* width within the parent.
       can be any percentage. */
    width: 100%;
}
.square:before {
    content: "";
    float: left;

    /* essentially the aspect ratio. 100% means the
       div will remain 100% as tall as it is wide, or
       square in other words.  */
    padding-bottom: 100%;
}
/* this is a clearfix. you can use whatever
   clearfix you usually use, add
   overflow:hidden to the parent element,
   or simply float the parent container. */
.square:after {
    content: "";
    display: table;
    clear: both;
}
</style>
<div class="square">
  <h1>Square</h1>
  <p>This div will maintain its aspect ratio.</p>
</div>

I've put together a demo here: http://codepen.io/tcmulder/pen/iqnDr

EDIT:

Now, bumming off of Isaac's idea, it's easier in modern browsers to simply use vw units to force aspect ratio (although I wouldn't also use vh as he does or the aspect ratio will change based on window height).

So, this simplifies things:

<style>
.square {
    /* width within the parent (could use vw instead of course) */
    width: 50%;
    /* set aspect ratio */
    height: 50vw;
}
</style>
<div class="square">
  <h1>Square</h1>
  <p>This div will maintain its aspect ratio.</p>
</div>

I've put together a modified demo here: https://codepen.io/tcmulder/pen/MdojRG?editors=1100

You could also set max-height, max-width, and/or min-height, min-width if you don't want it to grow ridiculously big or small, since it's based on the browser's width now and not the container and will grow/shrink indefinitely.

Note you can also scale the content inside the element if you set the font size to a vw measurement and all the innards to em measurements, and here's a demo for that: https://codepen.io/tcmulder/pen/VBJqLV?editors=1100

How to make sure docker's time syncs with that of the host?

If you're using docker-machine, the virtual machines can drift. To update the clock on the virtual machine without restarting run:

docker-machine ssh <machine-name|default>
sudo ntpclient -s -h pool.ntp.org

This will update the clock on the virtual machine using NTP and then all the containers launched will have the correct date.

How do I decrease the size of my sql server log file?

I had the same problem, my database log file size was about 39 gigabyte, and after shrinking (both database and files) it reduced to 37 gigabyte that was not enough, so I did this solution: (I did not need the ldf file (log file) anymore)

(**Important) : Get a full backup of your database before the process.

  1. Run "checkpoint" on that database.

  2. Detach that database (right click on the database and chose tasks >> Detach...) {if you see an error, do the steps in the end of this text}

  3. Move MyDatabase.ldf to another folder, you can find it in your hard disk in the same folder as your database (Just in case you need it in the future for some reason such as what user did some task).

  4. Attach the database (right click on Databases and chose Attach...)

  5. On attach dialog remove the .ldf file (which shows 'file not found' comment) and click Ok. (don`t worry the ldf file will be created after the attachment process.)

  6. After that, a new log file create with a size of 504 KB!!!.

In step 2, if you faced an error that database is used by another user, you can:

1.run this command on master database "sp_who2" and see what process using your database.

2.read the process number, for example it is 52 and type "kill 52", now your database is free and ready to detach.

If the number of processes using your database is too much:

1.Open services (type services in windows start) find SQL Server ... process and reset it (right click and chose reset).

  1. Immediately click Ok button in the detach dialog box (that showed the detach error previously).

Get column index from column name in python pandas

HTML checkbox onclick called in Javascript

jQuery has a function that can do this:

  1. include the following script in your head:

    <script type="text/javascript" src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.4.0/jquery.min.js"></script>

    (or just download the jQuery.js file online and include it locally)

  2. use this script to toggle the check box when the input is clicked:

    var toggle = false;
    $("#INPUTNAMEHERE").click(function() {
            $("input[type=checkbox]").attr("checked",!toggle);
            toggle = !toggle;
    });

That should do what you want if I understood what you were trying to do.

java how to use classes in other package?

Given your example, you need to add the following import in your main.main class:

import second.second;

Some bonus advice, make sure you titlecase your class names as that is a Java standard. So your example Main class will have the structure:

package main;  //lowercase package names
public class Main //titlecase class names
{
    //Main class content
}

Why does scanf() need "%lf" for doubles, when printf() is okay with just "%f"?

Using either a float or a double value in a C expression will result in a value that is a double anyway, so printf can't tell the difference. Whereas a pointer to a double has to be explicitly signalled to scanf as distinct from a pointer to float, because what the pointer points to is what matters.

linq where list contains any in list

I guess this is also possible like this?

var movies = _db.Movies.TakeWhile(p => p.Genres.Any(x => listOfGenres.Contains(x));

Is "TakeWhile" worse than "Where" in sense of performance or clarity?

Ordering issue with date values when creating pivot tables

You need to select the entire column where you have the dates, so click the "text to columns" button, and select delimited > uncheck all the boxes and go until you click the button finish.

This will make the cell format and then the values will be readed as date.

Hope it will helped.

Take a list of numbers and return the average

You want to iterate through the list, sum all the numbers, and then divide the sum by the number of elements in the list. You can use a for loop to accomplish this.

average = 0
sum = 0
for n in numbers:
    sum = sum + n
average = sum / len(numbers)

The for loop looks at each element in the list, and then adds it to the current sum. You then divide by the length of the list (or the number of elements in the list) to find the average.

I would recommend googling a python reference to find out how to use common programming concepts like loops and conditionals so that you feel comfortable when starting out. There are lots of great resources online that you could look up.

Good luck!

I use this:

var myapp = angular.module('myApp', [])

Java 8 Iterable.forEach() vs foreach loop

One of most upleasing functional forEach's limitations is lack of checked exceptions support.

One possible workaround is to replace terminal forEach with plain old foreach loop:

    Stream<String> stream = Stream.of("", "1", "2", "3").filter(s -> !s.isEmpty());
    Iterable<String> iterable = stream::iterator;
    for (String s : iterable) {
        fileWriter.append(s);
    }

database vs. flat files

What types of files is not mentioned. If they're media files, go ahead with flat files. You probably just need a DB for tags and some way to associate the "external BLOBs" to the records in the DB. But if full text search is something you need, there's no other way to go but migrate to a full DB.

Another thing, your filesystem might provide the ceiling as far as number of physical files are concerned.

NPM global install "cannot find module"

For Mac User's It's Best use the manual installation:

To minimize the chance of permissions errors, you can configure npm to use a different directory. In this example, it will be a hidden directory on your home folder.

  1. Back-up your computer before you start.

  2. Make a directory for global installations:

    mkdir ~/.npm-global

  3. Configure npm to use the new directory path:

    npm config set prefix '~/.npm-global'

  4. Open or create a ~/.profile file and add this line:

    export PATH=~/.npm-global/bin:$PATH

  5. Back on the command line, update your system variables:

    source ~/.profile

  6. Test: Download a package globally without using sudo.

    npm install -g jshint

Instead of steps 2-4, you can use the corresponding ENV variable (e.g. if you don't want to modify ~/.profile):

NPM_CONFIG_PREFIX=~/.npm-global

Update data on a page without refreshing

In general, if you don't know how something works, look for an example which you can learn from.

For this problem, consider this DEMO

You can see loading content with AJAX is very easily accomplished with jQuery:

$(function(){
    // don't cache ajax or content won't be fresh
    $.ajaxSetup ({
        cache: false
    });
    var ajax_load = "<img src='http://automobiles.honda.com/images/current-offers/small-loading.gif' alt='loading...' />";

    // load() functions
    var loadUrl = "http://fiddle.jshell.net/deborah/pkmvD/show/";
    $("#loadbasic").click(function(){
        $("#result").html(ajax_load).load(loadUrl);
    });

// end
});

Try to understand how this works and then try replicating it. Good luck.

You can find the corresponding tutorial HERE

Update

Right now the following event starts the ajax load function:

$("#loadbasic").click(function(){
        $("#result").html(ajax_load).load(loadUrl);
    });

You can also do this periodically: How to fire AJAX request Periodically?

(function worker() {
  $.ajax({
    url: 'ajax/test.html',
    success: function(data) {
      $('.result').html(data);
    },
    complete: function() {
      // Schedule the next request when the current one's complete
      setTimeout(worker, 5000);
    }
  });
})();

I made a demo of this implementation for you HERE. In this demo, every 2 seconds (setTimeout(worker, 2000);) the content is updated.

You can also just load the data immediately:

$("#result").html(ajax_load).load(loadUrl);

Which has THIS corresponding demo.

ViewPager PagerAdapter not updating the View

I found very interesting decision of this problem. Instead of using FragmentPagerAdapter, which keep in memory all fragments, we can use FragmentStatePagerAdapter (android.support.v4.app.FragmentStatePagerAdapter), that reload fragment each time, when we select it.

Realisations of both adapters are identical. So, we need just change "extend FragmentPagerAdapter" on "extend FragmentStatePagerAdapter"

Regular Expression with wildcards to match any character

The following should work:

ABC: *\([a-zA-Z]+\) *(.+)

Explanation:

ABC: # match literal characters 'ABC:'
 * # zero or more spaces
\([a-zA-Z]+\) # one or more letters inside of parentheses
 * # zero or more spaces
(.+) # capture one or more of any character (except newlines)

To get your desired grouping based on the comments below, you can use the following:

(ABC:) *(\([a-zA-Z]+\).+)

UILabel - Wordwrap text

If you set numberOfLines to 0 (and the label to word wrap), the label will automatically wrap and use as many of lines as needed.

If you're editing a UILabel in IB, you can enter multiple lines of text by pressing option+return to get a line break - return alone will finish editing.

What is an .axd file?

Those are not files (they don't exist on disk) - they are just names under which some HTTP handlers are registered. Take a look at the web.config in .NET Framework's directory (e.g. C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\Config\web.config):

<configuration>
  <system.web>
    <httpHandlers>
      <add path="eurl.axd" verb="*" type="System.Web.HttpNotFoundHandler" validate="True" />
      <add path="trace.axd" verb="*" type="System.Web.Handlers.TraceHandler" validate="True" />
      <add path="WebResource.axd" verb="GET" type="System.Web.Handlers.AssemblyResourceLoader" validate="True" />
      <add verb="*" path="*_AppService.axd" type="System.Web.Script.Services.ScriptHandlerFactory, System.Web.Extensions, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35" validate="False" />
      <add verb="GET,HEAD" path="ScriptResource.axd" type="System.Web.Handlers.ScriptResourceHandler, System.Web.Extensions, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35" validate="False"/>
      <add path="*.axd" verb="*" type="System.Web.HttpNotFoundHandler" validate="True" />
    </httpHandlers>
  </system.web>
<configuration>

You can register your own handlers with a whatever.axd name in your application's web.config. While you can bind your handlers to whatever names you like, .axd has the upside of working on IIS6 out of the box by default (IIS6 passes requests for *.axd to the ASP.NET runtime by default). Using an arbitrary path for the handler, like Document.pdf (or really anything except ASP.NET-specific extensions), requires more configuration work. In IIS7 in integrated pipeline mode this is no longer a problem, as all requests are processed by the ASP.NET stack.

Best way to import Observable from rxjs

One thing I've learnt the hard way is being consistent

Watch out for mixing:

 import { BehaviorSubject } from "rxjs";

with

 import { BehaviorSubject } from "rxjs/BehaviorSubject";

This will probably work just fine UNTIL you try to pass the object to another class (where you did it the other way) and then this can fail

 (myBehaviorSubject instanceof Observable)

It fails because the prototype chain will be different and it will be false.

I can't pretend to understand exactly what is happening but sometimes I run into this and need to change to the longer format.

How to use python numpy.savetxt to write strings and float number to an ASCII file?

You have to specify the format (fmt) of you data in savetxt, in this case as a string (%s):

num.savetxt('test.txt', DAT, delimiter=" ", fmt="%s")

The default format is a float, that is the reason it was expecting a float instead of a string and explains the error message.

How to calculate probability in a normal distribution given mean & standard deviation?

Scipy.stats is a great module. Just to offer another approach, you can calculate it directly using

import math
def normpdf(x, mean, sd):
    var = float(sd)**2
    denom = (2*math.pi*var)**.5
    num = math.exp(-(float(x)-float(mean))**2/(2*var))
    return num/denom

This uses the formula found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Normal_distribution#Probability_density_function

to test:

>>> normpdf(7,5,5)
0.07365402806066466
>>> norm(5,5).pdf(7)
0.073654028060664664

Python Requests - No connection adapters

You need to include the protocol scheme:

'http://192.168.1.61:8080/api/call'

Without the http:// part, requests has no idea how to connect to the remote server.

Note that the protocol scheme must be all lowercase; if your URL starts with HTTP:// for example, it won’t find the http:// connection adapter either.

Hibernate HQL Query : How to set a Collection as a named parameter of a Query?

Use Query.setParameterList(), Javadoc here.

There are four variants to pick from.

adding a datatable in a dataset

I assume that you haven't set the TableName property of the DataTable, for example via constructor:

var tbl = new DataTable("dtImage");

If you don't provide a name, it will be automatically created with "Table1", the next table will get "Table2" and so on.

Then the solution would be to provide the TableName and then check with Contains(nameOfTable).

To clarify it: You'll get an ArgumentException if that DataTable already belongs to the DataSet (the same reference). You'll get a DuplicateNameException if there's already a DataTable in the DataSet with the same name(not case-sensitive).

Is there a way to override class variables in Java?

You cannot override variables in a class. You can override only methods. You should keep the variables private otherwise you can get a lot of problems.

What is the difference between CMD and ENTRYPOINT in a Dockerfile?

• A Dockerfile should specify at least one CMD or ENTRYPOINT instruction

• Only the last CMD and ENTRYPOINT in a Dockerfile will be used

• ENTRYPOINT should be defined when using the container as an executable

• You should use the CMD instruction as a way of defining default arguments for the command defined as ENTRYPOINT or for executing an ad-hoc command in a container

• CMD will be overridden when running the container with alternative arguments

• ENTRYPOINT sets the concrete default application that is used every time a container is created using the image

• If you couple ENTRYPOINT with CMD, you can remove an executable from CMD and just leave its arguments which will be passed to ENTRYPOINT

• The best use for ENTRYPOINT is to set the image's main command, allowing that image to be run as though it was that command (and then use CMD as the default flags)

ping: google.com: Temporary failure in name resolution

I've faced the exactly same problem but I've fixed it with another approache.

Using Ubuntu 18.04, first disable systemd-resolved service.

sudo systemctl disable systemd-resolved.service

Stop the service

sudo systemctl stop systemd-resolved.service

Then, remove the link to /run/systemd/resolve/stub-resolv.conf in /etc/resolv.conf

sudo rm /etc/resolv.conf

Add a manually created resolv.conf in /etc/

sudo vim /etc/resolv.conf

Add your prefered DNS server there

nameserver 208.67.222.222

I've tested this with success.

Getting Hour and Minute in PHP

You can use the following solution to solve your problem:

echo date('H:i');

Why is it that "No HTTP resource was found that matches the request URI" here?

Have you tried using the [FromUri] attribute when sending parameters over the query string.

Here is an example:

[HttpGet]
[Route("api/department/getndeptsfromid")]
public List<Department> GetNDepartmentsFromID([FromUri]int FirstId, [FromUri] int CountToFetch)
{
    return HHSService.GetNDepartmentsFromID(FirstId, CountToFetch);
}

Include this package at the top also, using System.Web.Http;

JQuery, setTimeout not working

You've got a couple of issues here.

Firstly, you're defining your code within an anonymous function. This construct:

(function() {
  ...
)();

does two things. It defines an anonymous function and calls it. There are scope reasons to do this but I'm not sure it's what you actually want.

You're passing in a code block to setTimeout(). The problem is that update() is not within scope when executed like that. It however if you pass in a function pointer instead so this works:

(function() {
  $(document).ready(function() {update();});

  function update() {
    $("#board").append(".");
    setTimeout(update, 1000);     }
  }
)();

because the function pointer update is within scope of that block.

But like I said, there is no need for the anonymous function so you can rewrite it like this:

$(document).ready(function() {update();});

function update() {
  $("#board").append(".");
  setTimeout(update, 1000);     }
}

or

$(document).ready(function() {update();});

function update() {
  $("#board").append(".");
  setTimeout('update()', 1000);     }
}

and both of these work. The second works because the update() within the code block is within scope now.

I also prefer the $(function() { ... } shortened block form and rather than calling setTimeout() within update() you can just use setInterval() instead:

$(function() {
  setInterval(update, 1000);
});

function update() {
  $("#board").append(".");
}

Hope that clears that up.

Warning: comparison with string literals results in unspecified behaviour

There is a distinction between 'a' and "a":

  • 'a' means the value of the character a.
  • "a" means the address of the memory location where the string "a" is stored (which will generally be in the data section of your program's memory space). At that memory location, you will have two bytes -- the character 'a' and the null terminator for the string.

With Vagrant now you can have Docker as a provider. http://docs.vagrantup.com/v2/docker/. Docker provider can be used instead of VirtualBox or VMware.

Please note that you can also use Docker for provisioning with Vagrant. This is very different than using Docker as a provider. http://docs.vagrantup.com/v2/provisioning/docker.html

This means you can replace Chef or Puppet with Docker. You can use combinations like Docker as provider (VM) with Chef as provisioner. Or you can use VirtualBox as provider and Docker as provisioner.

Binding value to input in Angular JS

Use ng-value for set value of input box after clicking on a button:

"input type="email"  class="form-control" id="email2" ng-value="myForm.email2" placeholder="Email"

and

Set Value as:

 $scope.myForm.email2 = $scope.names[0].success;

Executing periodic actions in Python

Here's a simple single threaded sleep based version that drifts, but tries to auto-correct when it detects drift.

NOTE: This will only work if the following 3 reasonable assumptions are met:

  1. The time period is much larger than the execution time of the function being executed
  2. The function being executed takes approximately the same amount of time on each call
  3. The amount of drift between calls is less than a second

-

from datetime import timedelta
from datetime import datetime

def exec_every_n_seconds(n,f):
    first_called=datetime.now()
    f()
    num_calls=1
    drift=timedelta()
    time_period=timedelta(seconds=n)
    while 1:
        time.sleep(n-drift.microseconds/1000000.0)
        current_time = datetime.now()
        f()
        num_calls += 1
        difference = current_time - first_called
        drift = difference - time_period* num_calls
        print "drift=",drift

How can I parse String to Int in an Angular expression?

Besides {{ 1 * num_str + 1}} You can also try like this(minus first):

{{ num_str - 0 + 1}}

But the it's very fragile, if num_str contains letters, then it will fail. So better should try writing a filter as @hassassin said, or preprocess the data right after initiating it.

How do I select a MySQL database through CLI?

While invoking the mysql CLI, you can specify the database name through the -D option. From mysql --help:

What is an instance variable in Java?

Instance variable is the variable declared inside a class, but outside a method: something like:

class IronMan {

    /** These are all instance variables **/
    public String realName;
    public String[] superPowers;
    public int age;

    /** Getters and setters here **/
}

Now this IronMan Class can be instantiated in another class to use these variables. Something like:

class Avengers {

    public static void main(String[] a) {
        IronMan ironman = new IronMan();
        ironman.realName = "Tony Stark";
        // or
        ironman.setAge(30);
    }

}

This is how we use the instance variables. Shameless plug: This example was pulled from this free e-book here here.

Run Stored Procedure in SQL Developer?

With simple parameter types (i.e. not refcursors etc.) you can do something like this:

SET serveroutput on;
DECLARE
    InParam1 number;
    InParam2 number;
    OutParam1 varchar2(100);
    OutParam2 varchar2(100);
    OutParam3 varchar2(100);
    OutParam4 number;
BEGIN
    /* Assign values to IN parameters */
    InParam1 := 33;
    InParam2 := 89;

    /* Call procedure within package, identifying schema if necessary */
    schema.package.procedure(InParam1, InParam2,
        OutParam1, OutParam2, OutParam3, OutParam4);

    /* Display OUT parameters */
    dbms_output.put_line('OutParam1: ' || OutParam1);
    dbms_output.put_line('OutParam2: ' || OutParam2);
    dbms_output.put_line('OutParam3: ' || OutParam3);
    dbms_output.put_line('OutParam4: ' || OutParam4);
END;
/

Edited to use the OP's spec, and with an alternative approach to utilise :var bind variables:

var InParam1 number;
var InParam2 number;
var OutParam1 varchar2(100);
var OutParam2 varchar2(100);
var OutParam3 varchar2(100);
var OutParam4 number;

BEGIN
    /* Assign values to IN parameters */
    :InParam1 := 33;
    :InParam2 := 89;

    /* Call procedure within package, identifying schema if necessary */
    schema.package.procedure(:InParam1, :InParam2,
        :OutParam1, :OutParam2, :OutParam3, :OutParam4);
END;
/

-- Display OUT parameters
print :OutParam1;
print :OutParam2;
print :OutParam3;
print :OutParam4;

git remote prune – didn't show as many pruned branches as I expected

When you use git push origin :staleStuff, it automatically removes origin/staleStuff, so when you ran git remote prune origin, you have pruned some branch that was removed by someone else. It's more likely that your co-workers now need to run git prune to get rid of branches you have removed.

So what exactly git remote prune does? Main idea: local branches (not tracking branches) are not touched by git remote prune command and should be removed manually.

Now, a real-world example for better understanding:

You have a remote repository with 2 branches: master and feature. Let's assume that you are working on both branches, so as a result you have these references in your local repository (full reference names are given to avoid any confusion):

  • refs/heads/master (short name master)
  • refs/heads/feature (short name feature)
  • refs/remotes/origin/master (short name origin/master)
  • refs/remotes/origin/feature (short name origin/feature)

Now, a typical scenario:

  1. Some other developer finishes all work on the feature, merges it into master and removes feature branch from remote repository.
  2. By default, when you do git fetch (or git pull), no references are removed from your local repository, so you still have all those 4 references.
  3. You decide to clean them up, and run git remote prune origin.
  4. git detects that feature branch no longer exists, so refs/remotes/origin/feature is a stale branch which should be removed.
  5. Now you have 3 references, including refs/heads/feature, because git remote prune does not remove any refs/heads/* references.

It is possible to identify local branches, associated with remote tracking branches, by branch.<branch_name>.merge configuration parameter. This parameter is not really required for anything to work (probably except git pull), so it might be missing.

How to import js-modules into TypeScript file?

I tested 3 methods to do that...

Method1:

      const FriendCard:any = require('./../pages/FriendCard')

Method2:

      import * as FriendCard from './../pages/FriendCard';

Method3:

if you can find something like this in tsconfig.json:

      { "compilerOptions": { ..., "allowJs": true }

then you can write: import FriendCard from './../pages/FriendCard';

Java SecurityException: signer information does not match

I had a similar exception:

java.lang.SecurityException: class "org.hamcrest.Matchers"'s signer information does not match signer information of other classes in the same package

The root problem was that I included the Hamcrest library twice. Once using Maven pom file. And I also added the JUnit 4 library (which also contains a Hamcrest library) to the project's build path. I simply had to remove JUnit from the build path and everything was fine.

Where to change default pdf page width and font size in jspdf.debug.js?

For anyone trying to this in react. There is a slight difference.

// Document of 8.5 inch width and 11 inch high
new jsPDF('p', 'in', [612, 792]);

or

// Document of 8.5 inch width and 11 inch high
new jsPDF({
        orientation: 'p',
        unit: 'in',
        format: [612, 792]
});

When i tried the @Aidiakapi solution the pages were tiny. For a difference size take size in inches * 72 to get the dimensions you need. For example, i wanted 8.5 so 8.5 * 72 = 612. This is for [email protected].

How to check if String is null

You can use the null coalescing double question marks to test for nulls in a string or other nullable value type:

textBox1.Text = s ?? "Is null";

The operator '??' asks if the value of 's' is null and if not it returns 's'; if it is null it returns the value on the right of the operator.

More info here: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms173224.aspx

And also worth noting there's a null-conditional operator ?. and ?[ introduced in C# 6.0 (and VB) in VS2015

textBox1.Text = customer?.orders?[0].description ?? "n/a";

This returns "n/a" if description is null, or if the order is null, or if the customer is null, else it returns the value of description.

MySQL export into outfile : CSV escaping chars

I think your statement should look like:

SELECT id,
   client,
   project,
   task,
   description,
   time,
   date
  INTO OUTFILE '/path/to/file.csv'
  FIELDS TERMINATED BY ',' OPTIONALLY ENCLOSED BY '"'
  LINES TERMINATED BY '\n'
  FROM ts

Mainly without the FIELDS ESCAPED BY '""' option, OPTIONALLY ENCLOSED BY '"' will do the trick for description fields etc and your numbers will be treated as numbers in Excel (not strings comprising of numerics)

Also try calling:

SET NAMES utf8;

before your outfile select, that might help getting the character encodings inline (all UTF8)

Let us know how you get on.

Cannot inline bytecode built with JVM target 1.8 into bytecode that is being built with JVM target 1.6

In my case, I solved this by following these two steps

1. Go to android studio preferences -> other settings -> kotlin compiler -> set Target JVM version = 1.8
   if it doesn't work then go to the second option.

2. In your module-level build.gradle file add
   compileOptions {
        sourceCompatibility = 1.8
        targetCompatibility = 1.8
    }
    tasks.withType(org.jetbrains.kotlin.gradle.tasks.KotlinCompile).all {
        kotlinOptions {
            jvmTarget = "1.8"
        }
    }

How to change an application icon programmatically in Android?

Programatically, you may want to publish the application launcher yourself :

Note: this method no longer works starting with Android 8.0 - Oreo

In your AndroidManifest.xml, add :

<uses-permission android:name="com.android.launcher.permission.INSTALL_SHORTCUT"/>

Then you need create your app launcher intent:

Intent myLauncherIntent = new Intent();
myLauncherIntent.setClassName("your.package.name", "YourLauncherActivityName");
myLauncherIntent.addFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_NEW_TASK);

Create an install shortcut intent with your app launcher and custom icon:

Intent intent = new Intent();
intent.putExtra(Intent.EXTRA_SHORTCUT_INTENT, myLauncherIntent);
intent.putExtra(Intent.EXTRA_SHORTCUT_NAME, "Application Name");
intent.putExtra
       (
        Intent.EXTRA_SHORTCUT_ICON_RESOURCE,
        Intent.ShortcutIconResource.fromContext
                                    (
                                         getApplicationContext(),
                                         R.drawable.app_icon
                                    )
       );
intent.setAction("com.android.launcher.action.INSTALL_SHORTCUT");

And finally launch the broadcast intent:

getApplicationContext().sendBroadcast(intent);

How can I get screen resolution in java?

This code will enumerate the graphics devices on the system (if multiple monitors are installed), and you can use that information to determine monitor affinity or automatic placement (some systems use a little side monitor for real-time displays while an app is running in the background, and such a monitor can be identified by size, screen colors, etc.):

// Test if each monitor will support my app's window
// Iterate through each monitor and see what size each is
GraphicsEnvironment ge      = GraphicsEnvironment.getLocalGraphicsEnvironment();
GraphicsDevice[]    gs      = ge.getScreenDevices();
Dimension           mySize  = new Dimension(myWidth, myHeight);
Dimension           maxSize = new Dimension(minRequiredWidth, minRequiredHeight);
for (int i = 0; i < gs.length; i++)
{
    DisplayMode dm = gs[i].getDisplayMode();
    if (dm.getWidth() > maxSize.getWidth() && dm.getHeight() > maxSize.getHeight())
    { // Update the max size found on this monitor
        maxSize.setSize(dm.getWidth(), dm.getHeight());
    }

    // Do test if it will work here
}

How do I move to end of line in Vim?

As lots of people have said:

  • $ gets you to the end of the line

but also:

  • ^ or _ gets you to the first non-whitespace character in the line, and
  • 0 (zero) gets you to the beginning of the line incl. whitespace

What is the Ruby <=> (spaceship) operator?

Since this operator reduces comparisons to an integer expression, it provides the most general purpose way to sort ascending or descending based on multiple columns/attributes.

For example, if I have an array of objects I can do things like this:

# `sort!` modifies array in place, avoids duplicating if it's large...

# Sort by zip code, ascending
my_objects.sort! { |a, b| a.zip <=> b.zip }

# Sort by zip code, descending
my_objects.sort! { |a, b| b.zip <=> a.zip }
# ...same as...
my_objects.sort! { |a, b| -1 * (a.zip <=> b.zip) }

# Sort by last name, then first
my_objects.sort! { |a, b| 2 * (a.last <=> b.last) + (a.first <=> b.first) }

# Sort by zip, then age descending, then last name, then first
# [Notice powers of 2 make it work for > 2 columns.]
my_objects.sort! do |a, b|
      8 * (a.zip   <=> b.zip) +
     -4 * (a.age   <=> b.age) +
      2 * (a.last  <=> b.last) +
          (a.first <=> b.first)
end

This basic pattern can be generalized to sort by any number of columns, in any permutation of ascending/descending on each.

Taking screenshot on Emulator from Android Studio

Click on the Monitor (DDMS Included) button on the toolbar -- it looks like the Android bugdroid:

IDE window showing Monitor button

That will bring up the DDMS window. Select the emulator instance from the Devices tab on the left, and click on the camera button in the toolbar above it, next to the stop sign icon:

Monitor window

Note that if your emulator is running Android 4.4 or I think 4.3, then screen capture functionality is broken -- you'll have to use a physical device to get screenshots on those OS versions. It works okay for Android prior to 4.3. That bug is https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=62284

How to completely hide the navigation bar in iPhone / HTML5

CSS Selector for <input type="?"

Sorry, the short answer is no. CSS (2.1) will only mark up the elements of a DOM, not their attributes. You'd have to apply a specific class to each input.

Bummer I know, because that would be incredibly useful.

I know you've said you'd prefer CSS over JavaScript, but you should still consider using jQuery. It provides a very clean and elegant way of adding styles to DOM elements based on attributes.

How to include a Font Awesome icon in React's render()

After struggling with this for a while I came up with this procedure (based on Font Awesome's documentation here):

As stated, you'll have to install fontawesome, react-fontawesome and fontawesome icons library:

npm i --save @fortawesome/fontawesome-svg-core
npm i --save @fortawesome/free-solid-svg-icons
npm i --save @fortawesome/react-fontawesome

and then import everything to your React app:

import { library } from '@fortawesome/fontawesome-svg-core'
import { FontAwesomeIcon } from '@fortawesome/react-fontawesome'
import { faStroopwafel } from '@fortawesome/free-solid-svg-icons'

library.add(faStroopwafel)

Here comes the tricky part:

To change or add icons, you'll have to find the available icons in your node modules library, i.e.

<your_project_path>\node_modules\@fortawesome\free-solid-svg-icons

Each icon has two relevant files: .js and .d.ts, and the file name indicates the import phrase (pretty obvious...), so adding angry, gem and check-mark icons looks like this:

import { faStroopwafel, faAngry, faGem, faCheckCircle } from '@fortawesome/free-solid-svg-icons'

library.add(faStroopwafel, faAngry, faGem, faCheckCircle)

To use the icons in your React js code, use:

<FontAwesomeIcon icon=icon_name/>

The icon name can be found in the relevant icon's .js file:

e.g. for faCheckCircle look inside faCheckCircle.js for 'iconName' variable:

...
var iconName = 'check-circle';
...

and the React code should look like this:

<FontAwesomeIcon icon=check-circle/>

Goodluck!

How to do the equivalent of pass by reference for primitives in Java

Java is not call by reference it is call by value only

But all variables of object type are actually pointers.

So if you use a Mutable Object you will see the behavior you want

public class XYZ {

    public static void main(String[] arg) {
        StringBuilder toyNumber = new StringBuilder("5");
        play(toyNumber);
        System.out.println("Toy number in main " + toyNumber);
    }

    private static void play(StringBuilder toyNumber) {
        System.out.println("Toy number in play " + toyNumber);
        toyNumber.append(" + 1");
        System.out.println("Toy number in play after increement " + toyNumber);
    }
}

Output of this code:

run:
Toy number in play 5
Toy number in play after increement 5 + 1
Toy number in main 5 + 1
BUILD SUCCESSFUL (total time: 0 seconds)

You can see this behavior in Standard libraries too. For example Collections.sort(); Collections.shuffle(); These methods does not return a new list but modifies it's argument object.

    List<Integer> mutableList = new ArrayList<Integer>();

    mutableList.add(1);
    mutableList.add(2);
    mutableList.add(3);
    mutableList.add(4);
    mutableList.add(5);

    System.out.println(mutableList);

    Collections.shuffle(mutableList);

    System.out.println(mutableList);

    Collections.sort(mutableList);

    System.out.println(mutableList);

Output of this code:

run:
[1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
[3, 4, 1, 5, 2]
[1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
BUILD SUCCESSFUL (total time: 0 seconds)

Converting a generic list to a CSV string

I explain it in-depth in this post. I'll just paste the code here with brief descriptions.

Here's the method that creates the header row. It uses the property names as column names.

private static void CreateHeader<T>(List<T> list, StreamWriter sw)
    {
        PropertyInfo[] properties = typeof(T).GetProperties();
        for (int i = 0; i < properties.Length - 1; i++)
        {
            sw.Write(properties[i].Name + ",");
        }
        var lastProp = properties[properties.Length - 1].Name;
        sw.Write(lastProp + sw.NewLine);
    }

This method creates all the value rows

private static void CreateRows<T>(List<T> list, StreamWriter sw)
    {
        foreach (var item in list)
        {
            PropertyInfo[] properties = typeof(T).GetProperties();
            for (int i = 0; i < properties.Length - 1; i++)
            {
                var prop = properties[i];
                sw.Write(prop.GetValue(item) + ",");
            }
            var lastProp = properties[properties.Length - 1];
            sw.Write(lastProp.GetValue(item) + sw.NewLine);
        }
    }

And here's the method that brings them together and creates the actual file.

public static void CreateCSV<T>(List<T> list, string filePath)
    {
        using (StreamWriter sw = new StreamWriter(filePath))
        {
            CreateHeader(list, sw);
            CreateRows(list, sw);
        }
    }

In the View create file upload control in html:

<form method="post" asp-action="Add" enctype="multipart/form-data">
    <input type="file" multiple name="mediaUpload" />
    <button type="submit">Submit</button>
</form>

Now create action method in your controller:

[HttpPost]
public async Task<IActionResult> Add(IFormFile[] mediaUpload)
{
    //looping through all the files
    foreach (IFormFile file in mediaUpload)
    {
        //saving the files
        string path = Path.Combine(hostingEnvironment.WebRootPath, "some-folder-path");
        using (var stream = new FileStream(path, FileMode.Create))
        {
            await file.CopyToAsync(stream);
        }
    }
}

hostingEnvironment variable is of type IHostingEnvironment which can be injected to the controller using dependency injection, like:

private IHostingEnvironment hostingEnvironment;
public MediaController(IHostingEnvironment environment)
{
    hostingEnvironment = environment;
}

What's the best way to store a group of constants that my program uses?

IMO using a class full of constants is fine for constants. If they will change semi-occasionally I recommend using AppSettings in your config and the ConfigurationManager class instead.

When I have "constants" that are actually pulled in from AppSettings or similar I still will always have a "constants" class that wraps the reading from configuration manager. It's always more meaningful to have Constants.SomeModule.Setting instead of having to resort directly to ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["SomeModule/Setting"] on any place that wants to consume said setting value.

Bonus points for this setup, since SomeModule would likely be a nested class inside the Constants file, you could easily use Dependency Injection to inject either SomeModule directly into classes that depend on it. You could also even extract an interface on top of SomeModule and then create a depenedency to ISomeModuleConfiguration in your consuming code, this would then allow you to decouple the dependency to the Constants files, and even potentially make testing easier, especially if these settings come from AppSettings and you change them using config transformations because the settings are environment specific.

Unsetting array values in a foreach loop

$image is in your case the value of the item and not the key. Use the following syntax to get the key too:

foreach ($images as $key => $value) {
    /* … */
}

Now you can delete the item with unset($images[$key]).

How can I get Android Wifi Scan Results into a list?

Find a complete working example below:

The code by @Android is very good but has few issues, namely:

  1. Populating to ListView code needs to be moved to onReceive of BroadCastReceiver where only the result will be available. In the case result is obtained at 2nd attempt.
  2. BroadCastReceiver needs to be unregistered after the results are obtained.
  3. size = size -1 seems unnecessary.

Find below the modified code of @Android as a working example:

Open window in JavaScript with HTML inserted

You can also create an "example.html" page which has your desired html and give that page's url as parameter to window.open

var url = '/example.html';
var myWindow = window.open(url, "", "width=800,height=600");

Extract substring in Bash

Without any sub-processes you can:

How can I unstage my files again after making a local commit?

Lets say you want to unstage changes upto n commits,

Where commit hashes are as follows:

  • h1
  • h2 ...
  • hn
  • hn+1

Then run the following command:
git reset hn

Now the HEAD will be at hn+1. Changes from h1 to hn will be unstaged.

target input by type and name (selector)

You want a multiple attribute selector

$("input[type='checkbox'][name='ProductCode']").each(function(){ ...

or

$("input:checkbox[name='ProductCode']").each(function(){ ...

It would be better to use a CSS class to identify those that you want to select however as a lot of the modern browsers implement the document.getElementsByClassName method which will be used to select elements and be much faster than selecting by the name attribute

MacOS Xcode CoreSimulator folder very big. Is it ok to delete content?

That directory is part of your user data and you can delete any user data without affecting Xcode seriously. You can delete the whole CoreSimulator/ directory. Xcode will recreate fresh instances there for you when you do your next simulator run. If you can afford losing any previous simulator data of your apps this is the easy way to get space.

Look your openssl command:

C++, How to determine if a Windows Process is running?

JaredPar is right in that you can't know if the process is running. You can only know if the process was running at the moment you checked. It might have died in the mean time.

You also have to be aware the PIDs can be recycled pretty quickly. So just because there's a process out there with your PID, it doesn't mean that it's your process.

Have the processes share a GUID. (Process 1 could generate the GUID and pass it to Process 2 on the command line.) Process 2 should create a named mutex with that GUID. When Process 1 wants to check, it can do a WaitForSingleObject on the mutex with a 0 timeout. If Process 2 is gone, the return code will tell you that the mutex was abandoned, otherwise you'll get a timeout.

When and Why to use abstract classes/methods?

Typically one uses an abstract class to provide some incomplete functionality that will be fleshed out by concrete subclasses. It may provide methods that are used by its subclasses; it may also represent an intermediate node in the class hierarchy, to represent a common grouping of concrete subclasses, distinguishing them in some way from other subclasses of its superclass. Since an interface can't derive from a class, this is another situation where a class (abstract or otherwise) would be necessary, versus an interface.

A good rule of thumb is that only leaf nodes of a class hierarchy should ever be instantiated. Making non-leaf nodes abstract is an easy way of ensuring that.

QtCreator: No valid kits found

Found the issue. Qt Creator wants you to use a compiler listed under one of their Qt libraries. Use the Maintenance Tool to install this.

To do so:

Go to Tools -> Options.... Select Build & Run on left. Open Kits tab. You should have Manual -> Desktop (default) line in list. Choose it. Now select something like Qt 5.5.1 in PATH (qt5) in Qt version combobox and click Apply button. From now you should be able to create, build and run empty Qt project.

Mythical man month 10 lines per developer day - how close on large projects?

I think the number of lines added is highly dependent upon the state of the project, the rate of adding to a new project will be much higher than the rate of a starting project.

The work is different between the two - at a large project you usually spend most of the time figuring the relationships between the parts, and only a small amount to actually changing/adding. whereas in a new project - you mostly write... until it's big enough and the rate decreases.

Why does Path.Combine not properly concatenate filenames that start with Path.DirectorySeparatorChar?

These two methods should save you from accidentally joining two strings that both have the delimiter in them.

    public static string Combine(string x, string y, char delimiter) {
        return $"{ x.TrimEnd(delimiter) }{ delimiter }{ y.TrimStart(delimiter) }";
    }

    public static string Combine(string[] xs, char delimiter) {
        if (xs.Length < 1) return string.Empty;
        if (xs.Length == 1) return xs[0];
        var x = Combine(xs[0], xs[1], delimiter);
        if (xs.Length == 2) return x;
        var ys = new List<string>();
        ys.Add(x);
        ys.AddRange(xs.Skip(2).ToList());
        return Combine(ys.ToArray(), delimiter);

Return multiple fields as a record in PostgreSQL with PL/pgSQL

You can achieve this by using simply as a returns set of records using return query.

CREATE OR REPLACE FUNCTION schemaName.get_two_users_from_school(schoolid bigint)
 RETURNS SETOF record
 LANGUAGE plpgsql
AS $function$
begin

 return query
  SELECT id, name FROM schemaName.user where school_id = schoolid;

end;
$function$

And call this function as : select * from schemaName.get_two_users_from_school(schoolid) as x(a bigint, b varchar);

Debugging iframes with Chrome developer tools

Currently evaluation in the console is performed in the context of the main frame in the page and it adheres to the same cross-origin policy as the main frame itself. This means that you cannot access elements in the iframe unless the main frame can. You can still set breakpoints in and debug your code using Scripts panel though.

Update: This is no longer true. See Metagrapher's answer.

Jquery to get SelectedText from dropdown

If you're using a <select>, $(this).val() inside the change() event returns the value of the current selected option. Using text() is redundant most of the time, since it's usually identical to the value, and in case is different, you'll probably end up using the value in the back-end and not the text. So you can just do this:

http://jsfiddle.net/elclanrs/DW5kF/

var selectedText2 = $(this).val();

EDIT: Note that in case your value attribute is empty, most browsers use the contents as value, so it'll work either way.

Changing image sizes proportionally using CSS?

this is a known problem with CSS resizing, unless all images have the same proportion, you have no way to do this via CSS.

The best approach would be to have a container, and resize one of the dimensions (always the same) of the images. In my example I resized the width.

If the container has a specified dimension (in my example the width), when telling the image to have the width at 100%, it will make it the full width of the container. The auto at the height will make the image have the height proportional to the new width.

Ex:

HTML:

<div class="container">
<img src="something.png" />
</div>

<div class="container">
<img src="something2.png" />
</div>

CSS:

.container {
    width: 200px;
    height: 120px;
}

/* resize images */
.container img {
    width: 100%;
    height: auto;
}

.NET unique object identifier

It is possible to make a unique object identifier in Visual Studio: In the watch window, right-click the object variable and choose Make Object ID from the context menu.

Unfortunately, this is a manual step, and I don't believe the identifier can be accessed via code.

Commenting out code blocks in Atom

Atom does not have block comment by default, so I would recommend searching for atom packages by "block comment" and install the one suits to you.

I prefer https://atom.io/packages/block-comment because is has the closest keyboard shortcut to line comment and it works as i need it to, meaning it would not comment the whole line but only the selected text.

How to change the remote repository for a git submodule?

What worked for me (on Windows, using git version 1.8.3.msysgit.0):

  • Update .gitmodules with the URL to the new repository
  • Remove the corresponding line from the ".git/config" file
  • Delete the corresponding directory in the ".git/modules/external" directory (".git/modules" for recent git versions)
  • Delete the checked out submodule directory itself (unsure if this is necessary)
  • Run git submodule init and git submodule update
  • Make sure the checked out submodule is at the correct commit, and commit that, since it's likely that the hash will be different

After doing all that, everything is in the state I would expect. I imagine other users of the repository will have similar pain when they come to update though - it would be wise to explain these steps in your commit message!

How to return XML in ASP.NET?

Seems like at least 10 questions rolled into one here, a couple points.

Response.Clear - it really depends on what else is going on in the app - if you have httpmodules early in the pipeline that might be writing stuff you don't want - then clear it. Test it and find out. Fiddler or Wireshark useful for this.

Content Type to text/xml - yup - good idea - read up on HTTP spec as to why this is important. IMO anyone doing web work should have read the 1.0 and 1.1 spec at least once.

Encoding - how is your xml encoded - if it is utf-8, then say so, if not, say something else appropriate, just make sure they all match.

Page - personally, would use ashx or httpmodule, if you are using page, and want it a bit faster, get rid of autoeventwireup and bind the event handlers manually.

Would probably be a bit of a waste of memory to dump the xml into a string first, but it depends a lot on the size of the xml as to whether you would ever notice.

As others have suggested, saving the xml to the output stream probably the fastest, I would normally do that, but if you aren't sure, test it, don't rely on what you read on the interweb. Don't just believe anything I say.

For another approach, if the xml doesn't change that much, you could just write it to the disk and serve the file directly, which would likely be quite performant, but like everything in programming, it depends...

SyntaxError: missing ) after argument list.

the issue also may occur if you pass string directly without a single or double quote.

$('#contentData').append("<div class='media'><div class='media-body'><a class='btn' href='" + type + "'  onclick=\"(canLaunch(' + v.LibraryItemName +  '))\">View &raquo;</a></div></div>").

so always keep the habit to pass in a quote like

 onclick=\"(canLaunch(\'' + v.LibraryItemName  + '\'))"\

Angularjs - ng-cloak/ng-show elements blink

I couldn't get any of these methods to work, so I eventually did the following. For the element you want initially hidden:

<div <!--...--> style="display: none;" ng-style="style">

Then in your controller, add this at or near the top:

$scope.style = { display: 'block' };

This way, the element is initially hidden, and only shows when the controller code has actually run.

You can tune the placement to your needs, perhaps adding some logic. In my case, I switch to a login path if not currently logged in, and didn't want my interface flickering beforehand, so I set $scope.style after the logged-in check.

Best Practice: Access form elements by HTML id or name attribute?

Being old-fashioned I've always used the 'document.myform.myvar' syntax but I recently found it failed in Chrome (OK in Firefox and IE). It was an Ajax page (i.e. loaded into the innerHTML property of a div). Maybe Chrome didn't recognise the form as an element of the main document. I used getElementById (without referencing the form) instead and it worked OK.

What is difference between INNER join and OUTER join

Inner join matches tables on keys, but outer join matches keys just for one side. For example when you use left outer join the query brings the whole left side table and matches the right side to the left table primary key and where there is not matched places null.

How do I put the image on the right side of the text in a UIButton?

Here is solution for UIButton with center aligned content. This code make image right aligned and allows to use imageEdgeInsets and titleEdgeInsets for precious positioning.

enter image description here

Subclass UIButton with your custom class and add:

- (CGRect)imageRectForContentRect:(CGRect)contentRect {
    CGRect frame = [super imageRectForContentRect:contentRect];
    CGFloat imageWidth = frame.size.width;
    CGRect titleRect = CGRectZero;
    titleRect.size = [[self titleForState:self.state] sizeWithAttributes:@{NSFontAttributeName: self.titleLabel.font}];
    titleRect.origin.x = (self.frame.size.width - (titleRect.size.width + imageWidth)) / 2.0 + self.titleEdgeInsets.left - self.titleEdgeInsets.right;
    frame.origin.x = titleRect.origin.x + titleRect.size.width - self.imageEdgeInsets.right + self.imageEdgeInsets.left;

Load and execute external js file in node.js with access to local variables?

Sorry for resurrection. You could use child_process module to execute external js files in node.js

var child_process = require('child_process');

//EXECUTE yourExternalJsFile.js
child_process.exec('node yourExternalJsFile.js', (error, stdout, stderr) => {
    console.log(`${stdout}`);
    console.log(`${stderr}`);
    if (error !== null) {
        console.log(`exec error: ${error}`);
    }
});

How can I test a change made to Jenkinsfile locally?

At the moment of writing (end of July 2017) with the Blue Ocean plugin you can check the syntax of a declarative pipeline directly in the visual pipeline editor. The editor, works from the Blue Ocean UI when you click "configure" only for github projects (this is a known issue and they are working to make it work also on git etc).

But, as explained in this question you can open the editor browsing to:

[Jenkins URL]/blue/organizations/jenkins/pipeline-editor/

Then click in the middle of the page, and press Ctrl+S, this will open a textarea where you can paste a pipeline declarative script. When you click on Update, if there is a syntax error, the editor will let you know where the syntax error is. Like in this screenshot:

As a quick test I wrongly typed "stepps" instead of "steps"

If there is no syntax error, the textarea will close and the page will visualize your pipeline. Don't worry it won't save anything (if it's a github project it would commit the Jenkinsfile change).

I'm new to Jenkins and this is quite helpful, without this I had to commit a Jenkinsfile many times, till it works (very annoying!). Hope this helps. Cheers.

Why is String immutable in Java?

We can not be sure of what was Java designers actually thinking while designing String but we can only conclude these reasons based on the advantages we get out of string immutability, Some of which are

1. Existence of String Constant Pool

As discussed in Why String is Stored in String Constant Pool article, every application creates too many string objects and in order to save JVM from first creating lots of string objects and then garbage collecting them. JVM stores all string objects in a separate memory area called String constant pool and reuses objects from that cached pool.

Whenever we create a string literal JVM first sees if that literal is already present in constant pool or not and if it is there, new reference will start pointing to the same object in SCP.

String a = "Naresh";
String b = "Naresh";
String c = "Naresh";

In above example string object with value Naresh will get created in SCP only once and all reference a, b, c will point to the same object but what if we try to make change in a e.g. a.replace("a", "").

Ideally, a should have value Nresh but b, c should remain unchanged because as an end user we are making the change in a only. And we know a, b, c all are pointing the same object so if we make a change in a, others should also reflect the change.

But string immutability saves us from this scenario and due to the immutability of string object string object Naresh will never change. So when we make any change in a instead of change in string object Naresh JVM creates a new object assign it to a and then make change in that object.

So String pool is only possible because of String's immutability and if String would not have been immutable, then caching string objects and reusing them would not have a possibility because any variable woulds have changed the value and corrupted others.

And That's why it is handled by JVM very specially and have been given a special memory area.

2. Thread Safety

An object is called thread-safe when multiple threads are operating on it but none of them is able to corrupt its state and object hold the same state for every thread at any point in time.

As we an immutable object cannot be modified by anyone after its creation which makes every immutable object is thread safe by default. We do not need to apply any thread safety measures to it such as creating synchronized methods.

So due to its immutable nature string object can be shared by multiple threads and even if it is getting manipulated by many threads it will not change its value.

3. Security

In every application, we need to pass several secrets e.g. user's user-name\passwords, connection URLs and in general, all of this information is passed as the string object.

Now suppose if String would not have been immutable in nature then it would cause a serious security threat to the application because these values are allowed to get changed and if it is allowed then these might get changed due to wrongly written code or any other person who have access to our variable references.

4. Class Loading

As discussed in Creating objects through Reflection in Java with Example, we can use Class.forName("class_name") method to load a class in memory which again calls other methods to do so. And even JVM uses these methods to load classes.

But if you see clearly all of these methods accepts the class name as a string object so Strings are used in java class loading and immutability provides security that correct class is getting loaded by ClassLoader.

Suppose if String would not have been immutable and we are trying to load java.lang.Object which get changed to org.theft.OurObject in between and now all of our objects have a behavior which someone can use to unwanted things.

5. HashCode Caching

If we are going to perform any hashing related operations on any object we must override the hashCode() method and try to generate an accurate hashcode by using the state of the object. If an object's state is getting changed which means its hashcode should also change.

Because String is immutable so the value one string object is holding will never get changed which means its hashcode will also not change which gives String class an opportunity to cache its hashcode during object creation.

Yes, String object caches its hashcode at the time of object creation which makes it the great candidate for hashing related operations because hashcode doesn't need to be calculated again which save us some time. This is why String is mostly used as HashMap keys.

How to use if-else logic in Java 8 stream forEach

Just put the condition into the lambda itself, e.g.

animalMap.entrySet().stream()
        .forEach(
                pair -> {
                    if (pair.getValue() != null) {
                        myMap.put(pair.getKey(), pair.getValue());
                    } else {
                        myList.add(pair.getKey());
                    }
                }
        );

Of course, this assumes that both collections (myMap and myList) are declared and initialized prior to the above piece of code.

Update: using Map.forEach makes the code shorter, plus more efficient and readable, as Jorn Vernee kindly suggested:

    animalMap.forEach(
            (key, value) -> {
                if (value != null) {
                    myMap.put(key, value);
                } else {
                    myList.add(key);
                }
            }
    );
