How to return a PNG image from Jersey REST service method to the browser

I'm not convinced its a good idea to return image data in a REST service. It ties up your application server's memory and IO bandwidth. Much better to delegate that task to a proper web server that is optimized for this kind of transfer. You can accomplish this by sending a redirect to the image resource (as a HTTP 302 response with the URI of the image). This assumes of course that your images are arranged as web content.

Having said that, if you decide you really need to transfer image data from a web service you can do so with the following (pseudo) code:

When to use 'raise NotImplementedError'?

One could also do a raise NotImplementedError() inside the child method of an @abstractmethod-decorated base class method.


Imagine writing a control script for a family of measurement modules (physical devices). The functionality of each module is narrowly-defined, implementing just one dedicated function: one could be an array of relays, another a multi-channel DAC or ADC, another an ammeter etc.

Much of the low-level commands in use would be shared between the modules for example to read their ID numbers or to send a command to them. Let's see what we have at this point:

Base Class

We then realise that much of the module-specific command verbs and, therefore, the logic of their interfaces is also shared. Here are 3 different verbs whose meaning would be self-explanatory considering a number of target modules.

  • get(channel)

  • relay: get the on/off status of the relay on channel

  • DAC: get the output voltage on channel

  • ADC: get the input voltage on channel

  • enable(channel)

  • relay: enable the use of the relay on channel

  • DAC: enable the use of the output channel on channel

  • ADC: enable the use of the input channel on channel

  • set(channel)

  • relay: set the relay on channel on/off

  • DAC: set the output voltage on channel

  • ADC: hmm... nothing logical comes to mind.


Shared Verbs Become Enforced Verbs

I'd argue that there is a strong case for the above verbs to be shared across the modules as we saw that their meaning is evident for each one of them. I'd continue writing my base class Generic like so:

We now know that our subclasses will all have to define these methods. Let's see what it could look like for the ADC module:

You're right: not implementing set is not an option as Python would then fire the error below when you tried to instantiate your ADC object.

TypeError: Can't instantiate abstract class 'ADC' with abstract methods 'set'

So you must implement something, because we made set an enforced verb (aka '@abstractmethod'), which is shared by two other modules but, at the same time, you must also not implement anything as set does not make sense for this particular module.

NotImplementedError to the Rescue

By completing the ADC class like this:

        raise NotImplementedError("Can't use 'set' on an ADC!")

You are doing three very good things at once:

  1. You are protecting a user from erroneously issuing a command ('set') that is not (and shouldn't!) be implemented for this module.
  2. You are telling them explicitly what the problem is (see TemporalWolf's link about 'Bare exceptions' for why this is important)
  3. You are protecting the implementation of all the other modules for which the enforced verbs do make sense. I.e. you ensure that those modules for which these verbs do make sense will implement these methods and that they will do so using exactly these verbs and not some other ad-hoc names.

How to correctly write async method?

You are calling DoDownloadAsync() but you don't wait it. So your program going to the next line. But there is another problem, Async methods should return Task or Task<T>, if you return nothing and you want your method will be run asyncronously you should define your method like this:

Can I update a component's props in React.js?

A component cannot update its own props unless they are arrays or objects (having a component update its own props even if possible is an anti-pattern), but can update its state and the props of its children.

For instance, a Dashboard has a speed field in its state, and passes it to a Gauge child thats displays this speed. Its render method is just return <Gauge speed={this.state.speed} />. When the Dashboard calls this.setState({speed: this.state.speed + 1}), the Gauge is re-rendered with the new value for speed.

Just before this happens, Gauge's componentWillReceiveProps is called, so that the Gauge has a chance to compare the new value to the old one.

I want to vertical-align text in select box

I found that only adding padding-top pushed down the grey dropdown arrow box on the right, which was undesirable.

The method that worked for me was to go into the inspector and incrementally add padding until the text was centered. This will also reduce the size of the dropdown icon, but it will be centered as well so it isn't as visually disturbing.

How to mock static methods in c# using MOQ framework?

Moq cannot mock a static member of a class.

When designing code for testability it's important to avoid static members (and singletons). A design pattern that can help you refactoring your code for testability is Dependency Injection.

This means changing this:

to

public Foo(IBar bar)
{
    Bar = bar;
}

This allows you to use a mock from your unit tests. In production you use a Dependency Injection tool like Ninject or Unity wich can wire everything together.

Another solution could be to use the Microsoft Fakes Framework. This is not a replacement for writing good designed testable code but it can help you out. The Fakes framework allows you to mock static members and replace them at runtime with your own custom behavior.

How do you install GLUT and OpenGL in Visual Studio 2012?

Yes visual studio 2012 express has built in opengl library. the headers are in the folder C:\Program Files\Windows Kits\8.0\Include\um\gl and the lib files are in folder C:\Program Files\Windows Kits\8.0\Lib\win8\um\x86 & C:\Program Files\Windows Kits\8.0\Lib\win8\um\x64. but the problem is integrating the glut with the existing one.. i downloaded the library from http://www.xmission.com/~nate/glut/glut-3.7.6-bin.zip.. and deployed the files into .....\gl and ....\lib\win8\um\x32 and the dll to %system%/windows folders respectively.. Hope so this will solve the problem...

It might be that the package "Combinations" is not updated anymore and does not work with a recent version of R (I was also unable to install it on R 2.13.1 on windows). The package "combinat" installs without problem for me and might be a solution for you depending on what exactly you're trying to do.

And all that's left behind is newImg. Then you reset link references the image using #rocket:

But your newImg doesn't have an id attribute let alone an id of rocket.

To fix this, you need to remove img and then set the id attribute of newImg to rocket:

How do I verify/check/test/validate my SSH passphrase?

ssh-keygen -y

ssh-keygen -y will prompt you for the passphrase (if there is one).

    If you input the correct passphrase, it will show you the associated public key.
    If you input the wrong passphrase, it will display load failed.
    If the key has no passphrase, it will not prompt you for a passphrase and will immediately show you the associated public key.

You can use the API in combination with depth, XPath, and wrapper arguments.

The following will query the API of the pluginManager to list all plugins installed, but only to return their shortName and version attributes. You can of course retrieve additional fields by adding '|' to the end of the XPath parameter and specifying the pattern to identify the node.

wget http://<jenkins>/pluginManager/api/xml?depth=1&xpath=/*/*/shortName|/*/*/version&wrapper=plugins

The wrapper argument is required in this case, because it's returning more than one node as part of the result, both in that it is matching multiple fields with the XPath and multiple plugin nodes.

It's probably useful to use the following URL in a browser to see what information on the plugins is available and then decide what you want to limit using XPath:

Use Fieldset Legend with bootstrap

Just wanted to summarize all the correct answers above in short. Because I had to spend lot of time to figure out which answer resolves the issue and what's going on behind the scenes.

There seems to be two problems of fieldset with bootstrap:

  1. The bootstrap sets the width to the legend as 100%. That is why it overlays the top border of the fieldset.
  2. There's a bottom border for the legend.

So, all we need to fix this is set the legend width to auto as follows:

Best way to store password in database

Background You never ... really ... need to know the user's password. You just want to verify an incoming user knows the password for an account.

Hash It: Store user passwords hashed (one-way encryption) via a strong hash function. A search for "c# encrypt passwords" gives a load of examples.

See the online SHA1 hash creator for an idea of what a hash function produces (But don't use SHA1 as a hash function, use something stronger such as SHA256).

Now, a hashed passwords means that you (and database thieves) shouldn't be able to reverse that hash back into the original password.

How to use it: But, you say, how do I use this mashed up password stored in the database?

When the user logs in, they'll hand you the username and the password (in its original text) You just use the same hash code to hash that typed-in password to get the stored version.

So, compare the two hashed passwords (database hash for username and the typed-in & hashed password). You can tell if "what they typed in" matched "what the original user entered for their password" by comparing their hashes.

Extra credit:

Question: If I had your database, then couldn't I just take a cracker like John the Ripper and start making hashes until I find matches to your stored, hashed passwords? (since users pick short, dictionary words anyway ... it should be easy)

Your code is passing a function as an argument to find. That function takes an element argument (of type Conversation) and returns void (meaning there is no return value). TypeScript describes this as (element: Conversation) => void'

What TypeScript is saying is that the find function doesn't expect to receive a function that takes a Conversation and returns void. It expects a function that takes a Conversations, a number and a Conversation array, and that this function should return a boolean.

So bottom line is that you either need to change your code to pass in the values to find correctly, or else you need to provide an overload to the definition of find in your definition file that accepts a Conversation and returns void.

How can I flush GPU memory using CUDA (physical reset is unavailable)

on macOS (/ OS X), if someone else is having trouble with the OS apparently leaking memory:

  • https://github.com/phvu/cuda-smi is useful for quickly checking free memory
  • Quitting applications seems to free the memory they use. Quit everything you don't need, or quit applications one-by-one to see how much memory they used.
  • If that doesn't cut it (quitting about 10 applications freed about 500MB / 15% for me), the biggest consumer by far is WindowServer. You can Force quit it, which will also kill all applications you have running and log you out. But it's a bit faster than a restart and got me back to 90% free memory on the cuda device.

memset (from <string.h>) is probably the fastest standard way, since it's usually a routine written directly in assembly and optimized by hand.

By the way, in C++ the idiomatic way would be to use std::fill (from <algorithm>):

The difference is that a nested class declaration that is also static can be instantiated outside of the enclosing class.

When you have a nested class declaration that is not static, Java won't let you instantiate it except via the enclosing class. The object created out of the inner class is linked to the object created from the outer class, so the inner class can reference the fields of the outer.

GCC dump preprocessor defines

The simple approach (gcc -dM -E - < /dev/null) works fine for gcc but fails for g++. Recently I required a test for a C++11/C++14 feature. Recommendations for their corresponding macro names are published at https://isocpp.org/std/standing-documents/sd-6-sg10-feature-test-recommendations. But:

g++ -dM -E - < /dev/null | fgrep __cpp_alias_templates

always fails, because it silently invokes the C-drivers (as if invoked by gcc). You can see this by comparing its output against that of gcc or by adding a g++-specific command line option like (-std=c++11) which emits the error message cc1: warning: command line option ‘-std=c++11’ is valid for C++/ObjC++ but not for C.

Because (the non C++) gcc will never support "Templates Aliases" (see http://www.open-std.org/jtc1/sc22/wg21/docs/papers/2007/n2258.pdf) you must add the -x c++ option to force the invocation of the C++ compiler (Credits for using the -x c++ options instead of an empty dummy file go to yuyichao, see below):

g++ -dM -E -x c++ /dev/null | fgrep __cpp_alias_templates

There will be no output because g++ (revision 4.9.1, defaults to -std=gnu++98) does not enable C++11-features by default. To do so, use

You seem to be using the combined log format.

  • %l is the identity of the user determined by identd (not usually used since not reliable)
  • %u is the user name determined by HTTP authentication

  • %b is the size of the response to the client (in bytes)

My original problem is about intermittent sending failures. E.g. First Send() succeeds, 2nd Send() fails, 3rd Send() succeeds. Initially I thought I wasn't disposing properly. So I resorted to using().

Anyways, later I added the UseDefaultCredentials = false, and the Send() finally became stable. Not sure why though.

TL;DR Use GetProcessVersion.

All of these function are available in Windows XP [desktop apps | UWP apps].

GetProcessVersion uses a Process ID and returns 0 if the process of the given id is not running.

GetExitCodeProcess uses a Process handle and gives you the process exit code, if the code is STILL_ACTIVE (259) the process is still running so you could check if it is not STILL_ACTIVE (259) meaning that the process is not running. This is likely to work in basically every situation, unless the process exits with code 259.

WaitForSingleObject uses a Process handle with the SYNCHRONIZE access right and returns 0 if the process is not running. You should not specify INFINITE for the dwMilliseconds parameter because the function would not return until the process state became signaled(process is terminated).

My company does the same thing for a number of customers where we host a web site for them although in our case it's xyz.company.com rather than www.company.com. We do get them to set the A record on xyz.company.com to point to an IP address we allocate them.

As to how you could cope with a change in IP address I don't think there is a perfect solution. Some ideas are:

  • Use a NAT or IP load balancer and give your customers an IP address belonging to it. If the IP address of the web server needs to change you could make an update on the NAT or load balancer,

  • Offer a DNS hosting service as well and get your customers to host their domain with you so that you'd be in a position to update the A records,

  • Get your customers to set their A record up to one main web server and use a HTTP redirect for each customer's web requests.

Returning multiple values from a C++ function

It's entirely dependent upon the actual function and the meaning of the multiple values, and their sizes:

  • If they're related as in your fraction example, then I'd go with a struct or class instance.
  • If they're not really related and can't be grouped into a class/struct then perhaps you should refactor your method into two.
  • Depending upon the in-memory size of the values you're returning, you may want to return a pointer to a class instance or struct, or use reference parameters.

Why doesn't Java allow overriding of static methods?

Personally I think this is a flaw in the design of Java. Yes, yes, I understand that non-static methods are attached to an instance while static methods are attached to a class, etc etc. Still, consider the following code:

This code will not work as you might expect. Namely, SpecialEmployee's get a 2% bonus just like regular employees. But if you remove the "static"s, then SpecialEmployee's get a 3% bonus.

(Admittedly, this example is poor coding style in that in real life you would likely want the bonus multiplier to be in a database somewhere rather than hard-coded. But that's just because I didn't want to bog down the example with a lot of code irrelevant to the point.)

It seems quite plausible to me that you might want to make getBonusMultiplier static. Perhaps you want to be able to display the bonus multiplier for all the categories of employees, without needing to have an instance of an employee in each category. What would be the point of searching for such example instances? What if we are creating a new category of employee and don't have any employees assigned to it yet? This is quite logically a static function.

But it doesn't work.

And yes, yes, I can think of any number of ways to rewrite the above code to make it work. My point is not that it creates an unsolvable problem, but that it creates a trap for the unwary programmer, because the language does not behave as I think a reasonable person would expect.

Perhaps if I tried to write a compiler for an OOP language, I would quickly see why implementing it so that static functions can be overriden would be difficult or impossible.

Or perhaps there is some good reason why Java behaves this way. Can anyone point out an advantage to this behavior, some category of problem that is made easier by this? I mean, don't just point me to the Java language spec and say "see, this is documented how it behaves". I know that. But is there a good reason why it SHOULD behave this way? (Besides the obvious "making it work right was too hard"...)

@VicKirk: If you mean that this is "bad design" because it doesn't fit how Java handles statics, my reply is, "Well, duh, of course." As I said in my original post, it doesn't work. But if you mean that it is bad design in the sense that there would be something fundamentally wrong with a language where this worked, i.e. where statics could be overridden just like virtual functions, that this would somehow introduce an ambiguity or it would be impossible to implement efficiently or some such, I reply, "Why? What's wrong with the concept?"

I think the example I give is a very natural thing to want to do. I have a class that has a function that does not depend on any instance data, and which I might very reasonably want to call independent of an instance, as well as wanting to call from within an instance method. Why should this not work? I've run into this situation a fair number of times over the years. In practice I get around it by making the function virtual, and then creating a static method whose only purpose in life is to be a static method that passes the call on to the virtual method with a dummy instance. That seems like a very roundabout way to get there.

Cron is good for something that will run periodically, like every Saturday at 4am. There's also anacron, which works around power shutdowns, sleeps, and whatnot. As well as at.

But for a one-off solution, that doesn't require root or anything, you can just use date to compute the seconds-since-epoch of the target time as well as the present time, then use expr to find the difference, and sleep that many seconds.

Gotchas (deux)

Some of these are repeated which means they are very likely worth noting.

  1. Sometimes the storyboard xml gets corrupt. This requires you to review the structure in Storyboard as Source Code mode (right click the storyboard file > Open As ...)
  2. In some cases the navigationItem tag associated with user defined runtime attribute was set as an xml child of the view tag instead of the view controller tag. If so remove it from between the tags for proper operation.
  3. Toggle the NavBar Tint to ensure the custom font is used.
  4. Verify the size parameter of the font unless using a dynamic font style
  5. View hierarchy will override the settings. It appears that one font per stack is possible.

So Xcode naturally looks like it can handle custom fonts on UINavigationItem but that feature is just not updating properly (The font selected is ignored).

One way is to fix using the storyboard and adding a line of code: First add a UIView (UIButton, UILabel, or some other UIView subclass) to the View Controller (Not the Navigation Item...Xcode is not currently allowing one to do that). After you add the control you can modify the font in the storyboard and add a reference as an outlet to your View Controller. Just assign that view to the UINavigationItem.titleView. You could also set the text name in code if necessary. Reported Bug (23600285).

What is the difference between atomic / volatile / synchronized?

volatile:

volatile is a keyword. volatile forces all threads to get latest value of the variable from main memory instead of cache. No locking is required to access volatile variables. All threads can access volatile variable value at same time.

Using volatile variables reduces the risk of memory consistency errors, because any write to a volatile variable establishes a happens-before relationship with subsequent reads of that same variable.

This means that changes to a volatile variable are always visible to other threads. What's more, it also means that when a thread reads a volatile variable, it sees not just the latest change to the volatile, but also the side effects of the code that led up the change.

When to use: One thread modifies the data and other threads have to read latest value of data. Other threads will take some action but they won't update data.

AtomicXXX:

AtomicXXX classes support lock-free thread-safe programming on single variables. These AtomicXXX classes (like AtomicInteger) resolves memory inconsistency errors / side effects of modification of volatile variables, which have been accessed in multiple threads.

When to use: Multiple threads can read and modify data.

synchronized:

synchronized is keyword used to guard a method or code block. By making method as synchronized has two effects:

  1. First, it is not possible for two invocations of synchronized methods on the same object to interleave. When one thread is executing a synchronized method for an object, all other threads that invoke synchronized methods for the same object block (suspend execution) until the first thread is done with the object.

  2. Second, when a synchronized method exits, it automatically establishes a happens-before relationship with any subsequent invocation of a synchronized method for the same object. This guarantees that changes to the state of the object are visible to all threads.

When to use: Multiple threads can read and modify data. Your business logic not only update the data but also executes atomic operations

AtomicXXX is equivalent of volatile + synchronized even though the implementation is different. AmtomicXXX extends volatile variables + compareAndSet methods but does not use synchronization.

I think throw a new error is good approach to stop execution rather than just return or return false. For ex. I am validating a number of files that I only allow max five files for upload in separate function.

All solutions presented here are using single key events. This is very error prone since input can be also given using copy'n'paste or drag'n'drop. Also some of the solutions restrict the usage of non-character keys like ctrl+c, Pos1 etc.

I suggest rather than checking every key press you check whether the result is valid in respect to your expectations.

The oninput event is triggered just after something was changed in the text area and before being rendered.

You can extend the RegEx to whatever number format you want to accept. This is far more maintainable and extendible than checking for single key presses.

Converting int to string in C

Before I continue, I must warn you that itoa is NOT an ANSI function — it's not a standard C function. You should use sprintf to convert an int into a string.

itoa takes three arguments.

  • The first one is the integer to be converted.
  • The second is a pointer to an array of characters - this is where the string is going to be stored. The program may crash if you pass in a char * variable, so you should pass in a normal sized char array and it will work fine.
  • The last one is NOT the size of the array, but it's the BASE of your number - base 10 is the one you're most likely to use.

The function returns a pointer to its second argument — where it has stored the converted string.

itoa is a very useful function, which is supported by some compilers - it's a shame it isn't support by all, unlike atoi.

If you still want to use itoa, here is how should you use it. Otherwise, you have another option using sprintf (as long as you want base 8, 10 or 16 output):

A tag is used to label and mark a specific commit in the history.
It is usually used to mark release points (eg. v1.0, etc.).

Although a tag may appear similar to a branch, a tag, however, does not change. It points directly to a specific commit in the history and will not change unless explicitly updated.

You will not be able to checkout the tags if it's not locally in your repository so first, you have to fetch the tags to your local repository.

First, make sure that the tag exists locally by doing

# --tags will fetch all tags as well
$ git fetch --all --tags --prune

Then check out the tag by running

$ git checkout tags/<tag_name> -b <branch_name>

Instead of origin use the tags/ prefix.

Using the clone command

Since git supports shallow clone by adding the --branch to the clone command we can use the tag name instead of the branch name. Git knows how to "translate" the given SHA-1 to the relevant commit

$ git clone <url> --branch=<tag_name>

git clone --branch=

--branch can also take tags and detaches the HEAD at that commit in the resulting repository.


How to push tags?

To push all tags:

Using the refs/tags instead of just specifying the <tagname>.

Why?

  • It's recommended to use refs/tags since sometimes tags can have the same name as your branches and a simple git push will push the branch instead of the tag

To push annotated tags and current history chain tags use:

git push --follow-tags

This flag --follow-tags pushes both commits and only tags that are both:

  • Annotated tags (so you can skip local/temp build tags)
  • Reachable tags (an ancestor) from the current branch (located on the history)

I had a very similar problem. I was trying to use Newtonsoft.Json.dll in a .NET DLL, in the same way that I am successfully using it in .NET EXEs on my computer. I used NuGet in my Visual Studio 2017 to add Newtonsoft.Json to MyDll.dll. MyExecutable.exe references MyDll.dll. Calling a Newtonsoft.Json method from code within MyDll.dll raised "System.IO.FileLoadException: Could not load file or assembly 'Newtonsoft.Json, Version=12.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=30ad4fe6b2a6aeed' or one of its dependencies. The located assembly's manifest definition does not match the assembly reference. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131040)".

I ran Microsoft's fuslogvw.exe https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dotnet/framework/tools/fuslogvw-exe-assembly-binding-log-viewer to check what was being loaded and found the following:

MyExecutable.exe had no references or calls to Newtonsoft.Json, yet I found a 6.0.0.0 Newtonsoft.Json.dll in bin\Debug directories of copies of my MyExecutable source tree from before I added any Newtonsoft.Json references to any of my code. I do not know why the 6.0.0.0 Newtonsoft.Json.dll was there. Perhaps it was referenced by another DLL referenced by MyExecutable. I avoided the FileLoadException by using NuGet to add a reference to 12.0.0.0 Newtonsoft.Json to MyExecutable.

You can try something like this in your Dockerfile:

WORKDIR /worker
CMD bash ./start.sh

Then you should use the Volume like this:

volumes:
  - worker/:/worker:rw

The startscript should be a part of your worker repository and looks like this:

npm install
npm start

So the node_modules are a part of your worker volume and gets synchronized and the npm scripts are executed when everything is up.

I had the same problem even though openssl was enabled. The issue was that the Composer installer was looking at this config file:

C:\wamp\bin\php\php5.4.3\php.ini

But the config file that's loaded is actually here:

C:\wamp\bin\apache\apache2.2.22\bin\php.ini

So I just had to uncomment it in the first php.ini file and that did the trick. This is how WAMP was installed on my machine by default. I didn't go changing anything, so this will probably happen to others as well. This is basically the same as Augie Gardner's answer above, but I just wanted to point out that you might have two php.ini files.

You can copy-paste data from en excel-sheet to an SQL-table by doing so:

  • Select the data in Excel and press Ctrl + C
  • In SQL Server Management Studio right click the table and choose Edit Top 200 Rows
  • Scroll to the bottom and select the entire empty row by clicking on the row header
  • Paste the data by pressing Ctrl + V

Note: Often tables have a first column which is an ID-column with an auto generated/incremented ID. When you paste your data it will start inserting the leftmost selected column in Excel into the leftmost column in SSMS thus inserting data into the ID-column. To avoid that keep an empty column at the leftmost part of your selection in order to skip that column in SSMS. That will result in SSMS inserting the default data which is the auto generated ID.

Furthermore you can skip other columns by having empty columns at the same ordinal positions in the Excel sheet selection as those columns to be skipped. That will make SSMS insert the default value (or NULL where no default value is specified).

MySQL Error #1133 - Can't find any matching row in the user table

I got this error when I tried to grant remote connections privileges of a particular database to a root user on MySQL server by running the command:

USE database_name;
GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON *.* TO 'root'@'%';

This gave an error:

ERROR 1133 (42000): Can't find any matching row in the user table

Here's how I fixed it:

First, confirm that your MySQL server allows for remote connections. Use your preferred text editor to open the MySQL server configuration file:

sudo nano /etc/mysql/mysql.conf.d/mysqld.cnf

Scroll down to the bind-address line and ensure that is either commented out or replaced with 0.0.0.0 (to allow all remote connections) or replaced with Ip-Addresses that you want remote connections from.

Once you make the necessary changes, save and exit the configuration file. Apply the changes made to the MySQL config file by restarting the MySQL service:

sudo systemctl restart mysql

Next, log into the MySQL server console on the server it was installed:

mysql -u root -p

Enter your mysql user password

Check the hosts that the user you want has access to already. In my case the user is root:

SELECT host FROM mysql.user WHERE user = "root";

This gave me this output:

Next, I ran the command below which is similar to the previous one that was throwing errors, but notice that I added a password to it this time:

Afterwhich I checked the hosts that the user now has access to. In my case the user is root:

SELECT host FROM mysql.user WHERE user = "root";

This gave me this output:

Finally, you can try connecting to the MySQL server from another server using the command:

mysql -u username -h mysql-server-ip-address -p

You should get this output depending on your MySQL server version:

CSS pseudo elements in React

Inline styling does not support pseudos or at-rules (e.g., @media). Recommendations range from reimplement CSS features in JavaScript for CSS states like :hover via onMouseEnter and onMouseLeave to using more elements to reproduce pseudo-elements like :after and :before to just use an external stylesheet.

Personally dislike all of those solutions. Reimplementing CSS features via JavaScript does not scale well -- neither does adding superfluous markup.

Imagine a large team wherein each developer is recreating CSS features like :hover. Each developer will do it differently, as teams grow in size, if it can be done, it will be done. Fact is with JavaScript there are about n ways to reimplement CSS features, and over time you can bet on every one of those ways being implemented with the end result being spaghetti code.

So what to do? Use CSS. Granted you asked about inline styling going to assume you're likely in the CSS-in-JS camp (me too!). Have found colocating HTML and CSS to be as valuable as colocating JS and HTML, lots of folks just don't realise it yet (JS-HTML colocation had lots of resistance too at first).

Made a solution in this space called Style It that simply lets your write plaintext CSS in your React components. No need to waste cycles reinventing CSS in JS. Right tool for the right job, here is an example using :after:
