Error "library not found for" after putting application in AdMob

It is compile time error for a Static Library that is caused by Static Linker

ld: library not found for -l<Library_name>
  1. You can get the error Library not found for when you have not include a library path to the Library Search Paths

ld means Static Linker which can not find a location of the library. As a developer you should help the linker and point the Library Search Paths

```
Build Settings -> Search Paths -> Library Search Paths
```
  1. Also you can get this error if you first time open a new project (.xcodeproj) with Cocoapods support, run pod update. To fix it just close this project and open created a workspace instead (.xcworkspace )

std::enable_if to conditionally compile a member function

For those late-comers that are looking for a solution that "just works":

#include <utility>
#include <iostream>

template< typename T >
class Y {

    template< bool cond, typename U >
    using resolvedType  = typename std::enable_if< cond, U >::type;

    public:
        template< typename U = T >
        resolvedType< true, U > foo() {
            return 11;
        }
        template< typename U = T >
        resolvedType< false, U > foo() {
            return 12;
        }

};

int main() {
    Y< double > y;

    std::cout << y.foo() << std::endl;
}

Compile with:

g++ -std=gnu++14 test.cpp

Running gives:

./a.out
11

Disable clipboard prompt in Excel VBA on workbook close

There is a simple work around. The alert only comes up when you have a large amount of data in your clipboard. Just copy a random cell before you close the workbook and it won't show up anymore!

What are the differences between normal and slim package of jquery?

The short answer taken from the announcement of jQuery 3.0 Final Release :

Along with the regular version of jQuery that includes the ajax and effects modules, we’re releasing a “slim” version that excludes these modules. All in all, it excludes ajax, effects, and currently deprecated code.

The file size (gzipped) is about 6k smaller, 23.6k vs 30k.

How can I drop a "not null" constraint in Oracle when I don't know the name of the constraint?

To discover any constraints used, use the code below:

-- Set the long data type for display purposes to 500000.

SET LONG 500000

-- Define a session scope variable.

VARIABLE output CLOB

-- Query the table definition through the <code>DBMS_METADATA</code> package.

SELECT dbms_metadata.get_ddl('TABLE','[Table Described]') INTO :output FROM dual;

This essentially shows a create statement for how the referenced table is made. By knowing how the table is created, you can see all of the table constraints.

Query a parameter (postgresql.conf setting) like "max_connections"

You can use SHOW:

SHOW max_connections;

This returns the currently effective setting. Be aware that it can differ from the setting in postgresql.conf as there are a multiple ways to set run-time parameters in PostgreSQL. To reset the "original" setting from postgresql.conf in your current session:

RESET max_connections;

However, not applicable to this particular setting. The manual:

This parameter can only be set at server start.

To see all settings:

SHOW ALL;

There is also pg_settings:

The view pg_settings provides access to run-time parameters of the server. It is essentially an alternative interface to the SHOW and SET commands. It also provides access to some facts about each parameter that are not directly available from SHOW, such as minimum and maximum values.

For your original request:

SELECT *
FROM   pg_settings
WHERE  name = 'max_connections';

Finally, there is current_setting(), which can be nested in DML statements:

SELECT current_setting('max_connections');

Is there an SQLite equivalent to MySQL's DESCRIBE [table]?

Are you looking for the SQL used to generate a table? For that, you can query the sqlite_master table:

sqlite> CREATE TABLE foo (bar INT, quux TEXT);
sqlite> SELECT * FROM sqlite_master;
table|foo|foo|2|CREATE TABLE foo (bar INT, quux TEXT)
sqlite> SELECT sql FROM sqlite_master WHERE name = 'foo';
CREATE TABLE foo (bar INT, quux TEXT)

Does :before not work on img elements?

I think the best way to look at why this doesn't work is that :before and :after insert their content before or after the content within the tag you're applying them to. So it works with divs or spans (or most other tags) because you can put content inside them.

<div>
:before
Content
:after
</div>

However, an img is a self-contained, self-closing tag, and since it has no separate closing tag, you can't put anything inside of it. (That would need to look like <img>Content</img>, but of course that doesn't work.)

I know this is an old topic, but it pops up first on Google, so hopefully this will help others learn.

What is function overloading and overriding in php?

PHP 5.x.x does not support overloading this is why PHP is not fully OOP.

Is there a way to make npm install (the command) to work behind proxy?

Setup npm proxy

For HTTP:

npm config set proxy http://proxy_host:port

For HTTPS:

use the https proxy address if there is one

npm config set https-proxy https://proxy.company.com:8080

else reuse the http proxy address

npm config set https-proxy http://proxy.company.com:8080

Note: The https-proxy doesn't have https as the protocol, but http.

jQuery + client-side template = "Syntax error, unrecognized expression"

String myUrl = "http://stackoverflow.com";
URI myURI = new URI(myUrl);

How to POST JSON data with Python Requests?

From requests 2.4.2 (https://pypi.python.org/pypi/requests), the "json" parameter is supported. No need to specify "Content-Type". So the shorter version:

requests.post('http://httpbin.org/post', json={'test': 'cheers'})

SimpleDateFormat and locale based format string

Hope this helps someone. Please find in the below code which accepts Locale instance and returns the locale specific date format/pattern.

public static String getLocaleDatePattern(Locale locale) {
    // Validating if Locale instance is null
    if (locale == null || locale.getLanguage() == null) {
        return "MM/dd/yyyy";
    }
    // Fetching the locale specific date pattern
    String localeDatePattern = ((SimpleDateFormat) DateFormat.getDateInstance(
            DateFormat.SHORT, locale)).toPattern();
    // Validating if locale type is having language code for Chinese and country
    // code for (Hong Kong) with Date Format as - yy'?'M'?'d'?'
    if (locale.toString().equalsIgnoreCase("zh_hk")) {
        // Expected application Date Format for Chinese (Hong Kong) locale type
        return "yyyy'MM'dd";
    }
    // Replacing all d|m|y OR Gy with dd|MM|yyyy as per the locale date pattern
    localeDatePattern = localeDatePattern.replaceAll("d{1,2}", "dd")
            .replaceAll("M{1,2}", "MM")
            .replaceAll("y{1,4}|Gy", "yyyy");
    // Replacing all blank spaces in the locale date pattern
    localeDatePattern = localeDatePattern.replace(" ", "");
    // Validating the date pattern length to remove any extract characters
    if (localeDatePattern.length() > 10) {
        // Keeping the standard length as expected by the application
        localeDatePattern = localeDatePattern.substring(0, 10);
    }
    return localeDatePattern;
}

How to split a string in shell and get the last field

Another way is to reverse before and after cut:

$ echo ab:cd:ef | rev | cut -d: -f1 | rev

This makes it very easy to get the last but one field, or any range of fields numbered from the end.

How to download Javadoc to read offline?

You can use something called Dash: Offline API Documentation for Mac. For Windows and Linux you have an alternative called Zeal.

Both of them are very similar. And you can get offline documentation for most of the APIs out there like Java, android, Angular, HTML5 etc .. almost everything.

I have also written a post on How to install Zeal on Ubuntu 14.04

How to access Session variables and set them in javascript?

I was able to solve a similar problem with simple URL parameters and auto refresh.

You can get the values from the URL parameters, do whatever you want with them and simply refresh the page.

HTML:

<a href=\"webpage.aspx?parameterName=parameterValue"> LinkText </a>

C#:

string variable = Request.QueryString["parameterName"];
if (parameterName!= null)
{
   Session["sessionVariable"] += parameterName;
   Response.AddHeader("REFRESH", "1;URL=webpage.aspx");
}

How can I open a link in a new window?

This is not a very nice fix but it works:

CSS:

.new-tab-opener
{
    display: none;
}

HTML:

<a data-href="http://www.google.com/" href="javascript:">Click here</a>
<form class="new-tab-opener" method="get" target="_blank"></form>

Javascript:

$('a').on('click', function (e) {
    var f = $('.new-tab-opener');
    f.attr('action', $(this).attr('data-href'));
    f.submit();
});

Groovy String to Date

Below is the way we are going within our developing application.

import java.text.SimpleDateFormat

String newDateAdded = "2018-11-11T09:30:31"
SimpleDateFormat dateFormat = new SimpleDateFormat("yyyy-MM-dd'T'HH:mm:ss")
Date dateAdded = dateFormat.parse(newDateAdded)

println(dateAdded)

The output looks like

Sun Nov 11 09:30:31 GMT 2018

In your example, we could adjust a bit to meet your need. If I were you, I will do:

String datePattern = "d/M/yyyy H:m:s"
String theDate = "28/09/2010 16:02:43"
SimpleDateFormat df = new SimpleDateFormat(datePattern)
println df.parse(theDate)

I hope this would help you much.

How to change default timezone for Active Record in Rails?

I came to the same conclusion as Dean Perry after much anguish. config.time_zone = 'Adelaide' and config.active_record.default_timezone = :local was the winning combination. Here's what I found during the process.

exception.getMessage() output with class name

I think you are wrapping your exception in another exception (which isn't in your code above). If you try out this code:

public static void main(String[] args) {
    try {
        throw new RuntimeException("Cannot move file");
    } catch (Exception ex) {
        JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(null, "Error: " + ex.getMessage());
    }
}

...you will see a popup that says exactly what you want.

However, to solve your problem (the wrapped exception) you need get to the "root" exception with the "correct" message. To do this you need to create a own recursive method getRootCause:

public static void main(String[] args) {
    try {
        throw new Exception(new RuntimeException("Cannot move file"));
    } catch (Exception ex) {
        JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(null,
                                      "Error: " + getRootCause(ex).getMessage());
    }
}

public static Throwable getRootCause(Throwable throwable) {
    if (throwable.getCause() != null)
        return getRootCause(throwable.getCause());

    return throwable;
}

Note: Unwrapping exceptions like this however, sort of breaks the abstractions. I encourage you to find out why the exception is wrapped and ask yourself if it makes sense.

More than 1 row in <Input type="textarea" />

As said by Sparky in comments on many answers to this question, there is NOT any textarea value for the type attribute of the input tag.

On other terms, the following markup is not valid :

<input type="textarea" />

And the browser replaces it by the default :

<input type="text" />

To define a multi-lines text input, use :

<textarea></textarea>

See the textarea element documentation for more details.

How to use sys.exit() in Python

Using 2.7:

from functools import partial
from random import randint

for roll in iter(partial(randint, 1, 8), 1):
    print 'you rolled: {}'.format(roll)
print 'oops you rolled a 1!'

you rolled: 7
you rolled: 7
you rolled: 8
you rolled: 6
you rolled: 8
you rolled: 5
oops you rolled a 1!

Then change the "oops" print to a raise SystemExit

What's the difference between Sender, From and Return-Path?

The official RFC which defines this specification could be found here:

http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc4021#section-2.1.2 (look at paragraph 2.1.2. and the following)

2.1.2. Header Field: From

Description:
    Mailbox of message author
[...]
Related information:
    Specifies the author(s) of the message; that is, the mailbox(es)
    of the person(s) or system(s) responsible for the writing of the
    message. Defined as standard by RFC 822.

2.1.3. Header Field: Sender

Description:
    Mailbox of message sender
[...]
Related information:
    Specifies the mailbox of the agent responsible for the actual
    transmission of the message. Defined as standard by RFC 822.

2.1.22. Header Field: Return-Path

Description:
    Message return path
[...]
Related information:
    Return path for message response diagnostics. See also RFC 2821
    [17]. Defined as standard by RFC 822.

Choosing the correct upper and lower HSV boundaries for color detection with`cv::inRange` (OpenCV)

Problem 1 : Different applications use different scales for HSV. For example gimp uses H = 0-360, S = 0-100 and V = 0-100. But OpenCV uses H: 0-179, S: 0-255, V: 0-255. Here i got a hue value of 22 in gimp. So I took half of it, 11, and defined range for that. ie (5,50,50) - (15,255,255).

Problem 2: And also, OpenCV uses BGR format, not RGB. So change your code which converts RGB to HSV as follows:

cv.CvtColor(frame, frameHSV, cv.CV_BGR2HSV)

Now run it. I got an output as follows:

enter image description here

Hope that is what you wanted. There are some false detections, but they are small, so you can choose biggest contour which is your lid.

EDIT:

As Karl Philip told in his comment, it would be good to add new code. But there is change of only a single line. So, I would like to add the same code implemented in new cv2 module, so users can compare the easiness and flexibility of new cv2 module.

import cv2
import numpy as np

img = cv2.imread('sof.jpg')

ORANGE_MIN = np.array([5, 50, 50],np.uint8)
ORANGE_MAX = np.array([15, 255, 255],np.uint8)

hsv_img = cv2.cvtColor(img,cv2.COLOR_BGR2HSV)

frame_threshed = cv2.inRange(hsv_img, ORANGE_MIN, ORANGE_MAX)
cv2.imwrite('output2.jpg', frame_threshed)

It gives the same result as above. But code is much more simpler.

Set up adb on Mac OS X

The simplest way to use adb command on your Mac systems would be to add the path to the platform-tools (where adb lives) into your bash_profile.

Steps to add the adb path: 1. open the bash_profile: This can be done by using the following commands

open ~/.bash_profile

This opens up the bash_profile in an editor.

  1. Locate the platform_tools, usually they are present at the following location: Users/"user_folder"/Library/Android/sdk/platform_tools

  2. Paste the following command in the bash_profile file which opens up:

    export PATH=$PATH:/Users/A374375/Library/Android/sdk/platform-tools

  3. Save the file using the command:

source ~/.bash_profile

  1. Check if the path is saved by typing: echo $PATH : You should be able to find the entire path displayed in the output.

  2. Type adb to see if the configuration worked. If you have any devices connected to the machine or any emulators running on your system they would be displayed when you type adb devices

Creating columns in listView and add items

I didn't see anyone answer this correctly. So I'm posting it here. In order to get columns to show up you need to specify the following line.

lvRegAnimals.View = View.Details;

And then add your columns after that.

lvRegAnimals.Columns.Add("Id", -2, HorizontalAlignment.Left);
lvRegAnimals.Columns.Add("Name", -2, HorizontalAlignment.Left);
lvRegAnimals.Columns.Add("Age", -2, HorizontalAlignment.Left);

Hope this helps anyone else looking for this answer in the future.

How to remove pip package after deleting it manually

I'm sure there's a better way to achieve this and I would like to read about it, but a workaround I can think of is this:

  1. Install the package on a different machine.
  2. Copy the rm'ed directory to the original machine (ssh, ftp, whatever).
  3. pip uninstall the package (should work again then).

But, yes, I'd also love to hear about a decent solution for this situation.

How to list files and folder in a dir (PHP)

use this function http://www.codingforums.com/showthread.php?t=71882

function getDirectory( $path = '.', $level = 0 ){

$ignore = array( 'cgi-bin', '.', '..' );
// Directories to ignore when listing output. Many hosts
// will deny PHP access to the cgi-bin.

$dh = @opendir( $path );
// Open the directory to the handle $dh

while( false !== ( $file = readdir( $dh ) ) ){
// Loop through the directory

    if( !in_array( $file, $ignore ) ){
    // Check that this file is not to be ignored

        $spaces = str_repeat( '&nbsp;', ( $level * 4 ) );
        // Just to add spacing to the list, to better
        // show the directory tree.

        if( is_dir( "$path/$file" ) ){
        // Its a directory, so we need to keep reading down...

            echo "<strong>$spaces $file</strong><br />";
            getDirectory( "$path/$file", ($level+1) );
            // Re-call this same function but on a new directory.
            // this is what makes function recursive.

        } else {

            echo "$spaces $file<br />";
            // Just print out the filename

        }

    }

}

closedir( $dh );
// Close the directory handle
}

and call the function like that

getDirectory( "." );
// Get the current directory

getDirectory( "./files/includes" );
// Get contents of the "files/includes" folder

How to send a “multipart/form-data” POST in Android with Volley

Here is Simple Solution And Complete Example for Uploading File Using Volley Android

1) Gradle Import

compile 'dev.dworks.libs:volleyplus:+'

2)Now Create a Class RequestManager

public class RequestManager {
    private static RequestManager mRequestManager;
    /**
     * Queue which Manages the Network Requests :-)
     */
    private static RequestQueue mRequestQueue;
    // ImageLoader Instance

    private RequestManager() {

    }

    public static RequestManager get(Context context) {

        if (mRequestManager == null)
            mRequestManager = new RequestManager();

        return mRequestManager;
    }

    /**
     * @param context application context
     */
    public static RequestQueue getnstance(Context context) {

        if (mRequestQueue == null) {
            mRequestQueue = Volley.newRequestQueue(context);
        }

        return mRequestQueue;

    }

}

3)Now Create a Class to handle Request for uploading File WebService

public class WebService {
    private RequestQueue mRequestQueue;
    private static WebService apiRequests = null;

    public static WebService getInstance() {
        if (apiRequests == null) {
            apiRequests = new WebService();
            return apiRequests;
        }
        return apiRequests;
    }
    public void updateProfile(Context context, String doc_name, String doc_type, String appliance_id, File file, Response.Listener<String> listener, Response.ErrorListener errorListener) {
        SimpleMultiPartRequest request = new SimpleMultiPartRequest(Request.Method.POST, "YOUR URL HERE", listener, errorListener);
//        request.setParams(data);
        mRequestQueue = RequestManager.getnstance(context);
        request.addMultipartParam("token", "text", "tdfysghfhsdfh");
        request.addMultipartParam("parameter_1", "text", doc_name);
        request.addMultipartParam("dparameter_2", "text", doc_type);
        request.addMultipartParam("parameter_3", "text", appliance_id);
            request.addFile("document_file", file.getPath());

        request.setFixedStreamingMode(true);
        mRequestQueue.add(request);
    }
}

4) And Now Call The method Like This to Hit the service

public class Main2Activity extends AppCompatActivity implements Response.ErrorListener, Response.Listener<String>{

    @Override
    protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
        super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
        setContentView(R.layout.activity_main2);
        Button button=(Button)findViewById(R.id.button);
        button.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() {
            @Override
            public void onClick(View v) {
                uploadData();
            }
        });
    }

    private void uploadData() {
        WebService.getInstance().updateProfile(getActivity(), "appl_doc", "appliance", "1", mChoosenFile, this, this);
    }

    @Override
    public void onErrorResponse(VolleyError error) {

    }

    @Override
    public void onResponse(String response) {
     //Your response here
    }
}

How can I convert a string to an int in Python?

Perhaps the following, then your calculator can use arbitrary number base (e.g. hex, binary, base 7! etc): (untested)

def convert(str):
    try:
        base = 10  # default
        if ':' in str:
            sstr = str.split(':')
            base, str = int(sstr[0]), sstr[1]
        val = int(str, base)
    except ValueError:
        val = None

    return val

val = convert(raw_input("Enter value:"))
# 10     : Decimal
# 16:a   : Hex, 10
# 2:1010 : Binary, 10

How can I get a Unicode character's code?

A more complete, albeit more verbose, way of doing this would be to use the Character.codePointAt method. This will handle 'high surrogate' characters, that cannot be represented by a single integer within the range that a char can represent.

In the example you've given this is not strictly necessary - if the (Unicode) character can fit inside a single (Java) char (such as the registered local variable) then it must fall within the \u0000 to \uffff range, and you won't need to worry about surrogate pairs. But if you're looking at potentially higher code points, from within a String/char array, then calling this method is wise in order to cover the edge cases.

For example, instead of

String input = ...;
char fifthChar = input.charAt(4);
int codePoint = (int)fifthChar;

use

String input = ...;
int codePoint = Character.codePointAt(input, 4);

Not only is this slightly less code in this instance, but it will handle detection of surrogate pairs for you.

How can I find the number of years between two dates?

I know you have asked for a clean solution, but here are two dirty once:

        static void diffYears1()
{
    SimpleDateFormat dateFormat = new SimpleDateFormat("dd-MM-yyyy");
    Calendar calendar1 = Calendar.getInstance(); // now
    String toDate = dateFormat.format(calendar1.getTime());

    Calendar calendar2 = Calendar.getInstance();
    calendar2.add(Calendar.DAY_OF_YEAR, -7000); // some date in the past
    String fromDate = dateFormat.format(calendar2.getTime());

    // just simply add one year at a time to the earlier date until it becomes later then the other one
    int years = 0;
    while(true)
    {
        calendar2.add(Calendar.YEAR, 1);
        if(calendar2.getTimeInMillis() < calendar1.getTimeInMillis())
            years++;
        else
            break;
    }

    System.out.println(years + " years between " + fromDate + " and " + toDate);
}

static void diffYears2()
{

    int years = calendar1.get(Calendar.YEAR) - calendar2.get(Calendar.YEAR);
    // now make the earlier date the same year as the later
    calendar2.set(Calendar.YEAR, calendar1.get(Calendar.YEAR));
    // and see if new date become later, if so then one year was not whole, so subtract 1
    if(calendar2.getTimeInMillis() > calendar1.getTimeInMillis())
        years--;

    System.out.println(years + " years between " + fromDate + " and " + toDate);
}

How to permanently export a variable in Linux?

A particular example: I have Java 7 and Java 6 installed, I need to run some builds with 6, others with 7. Therefore I need to dynamically alter JAVA_HOME so that maven picks up what I want for each build. I did the following:

  • created j6.sh script which simply does export JAVA_HOME=... path to j6 install...
  • then, as suggested by one of the comments above, whenever I need J6 for a build, I run source j6.sh in that respective command terminal. By default, my JAVA_HOME is set to J7.

Hope this helps.

How to access remote server with local phpMyAdmin client?

In Ubuntu

Just you need to modify a single file in PHPMyAdmin folder i.e. “config.inc.php”.Just add below lines to your “config.inc.php”.

File location : /var/lib/phpmyadmin/config.inc.php OR /etc/phpmyadmin/config.inc.php

Maybe you don't have the permission for editing that file, just give the permission using this command

sudo chmod 777 /var/lib/phpmyadmin/config.inc.php

OR (in different systems you may have to check with these two locations)

sudo chmod 777 /etc/phpmyadmin/config.inc.php

Then copy and paste the code in your config.inc.php file

    $i++;
    $cfg['Servers'][$i]['auth_type']     = 'cookie';
    $cfg['Servers'][$i]['verbose'] = 'Database Server 2';
    $cfg['Servers'][$i]['host'] = '34.12.123.31';
    $cfg['Servers'][$i]['connect_type']  = 'tcp';
    $cfg['Servers'][$i]['compress']      = false;
    $cfg['Servers'][$i]['AllowNoPassword'] = false;

And make the appropriate changes with your server details

PHP Converting Integer to Date, reverse of strtotime

Yes you can convert it back. You can try:

date("Y-m-d H:i:s", 1388516401);

The logic behind this conversion from date to an integer is explained in strtotime in PHP:

The function expects to be given a string containing an English date format and will try to parse that format into a Unix timestamp (the number of seconds since January 1 1970 00:00:00 UTC), relative to the timestamp given in now, or the current time if now is not supplied.

For example, strtotime("1970-01-01 00:00:00") gives you 0 and strtotime("1970-01-01 00:00:01") gives you 1.

This means that if you are printing strtotime("2014-01-01 00:00:01") which will give you output 1388516401, so the date 2014-01-01 00:00:01 is 1,388,516,401 seconds after January 1 1970 00:00:00 UTC.

How to add a file to the last commit in git?

Yes, there's a command git commit --amend which is used to "fix" last commit.

In your case it would be called as:

git add the_left_out_file
git commit --amend --no-edit

The --no-edit flag allow to make amendment to commit without changing commit message.

EDIT: Warning You should never amend public commits, that you already pushed to public repository, because what amend does is actually removing from history last commit and creating new commit with combined changes from that commit and new added when amending.

Using Java with Nvidia GPUs (CUDA)

First of all, you should be aware of the fact that CUDA will not automagically make computations faster. On the one hand, because GPU programming is an art, and it can be very, very challenging to get it right. On the other hand, because GPUs are well-suited only for certain kinds of computations.

This may sound confusing, because you can basically compute anything on the GPU. The key point is, of course, whether you will achieve a good speedup or not. The most important classification here is whether a problem is task parallel or data parallel. The first one refers, roughly speaking, to problems where several threads are working on their own tasks, more or less independently. The second one refers to problems where many threads are all doing the same - but on different parts of the data.

The latter is the kind of problem that GPUs are good at: They have many cores, and all the cores do the same, but operate on different parts of the input data.

You mentioned that you have "simple math but with huge amount of data". Although this may sound like a perfectly data-parallel problem and thus like it was well-suited for a GPU, there is another aspect to consider: GPUs are ridiculously fast in terms of theoretical computational power (FLOPS, Floating Point Operations Per Second). But they are often throttled down by the memory bandwidth.

This leads to another classification of problems. Namely whether problems are memory bound or compute bound.

The first one refers to problems where the number of instructions that are done for each data element is low. For example, consider a parallel vector addition: You'll have to read two data elements, then perform a single addition, and then write the sum into the result vector. You will not see a speedup when doing this on the GPU, because the single addition does not compensate for the efforts of reading/writing the memory.

The second term, "compute bound", refers to problems where the number of instructions is high compared to the number of memory reads/writes. For example, consider a matrix multiplication: The number of instructions will be O(n^3) when n is the size of the matrix. In this case, one can expect that the GPU will outperform a CPU at a certain matrix size. Another example could be when many complex trigonometric computations (sine/cosine etc) are performed on "few" data elements.

As a rule of thumb: You can assume that reading/writing one data element from the "main" GPU memory has a latency of about 500 instructions....

Therefore, another key point for the performance of GPUs is data locality: If you have to read or write data (and in most cases, you will have to ;-)), then you should make sure that the data is kept as close as possible to the GPU cores. GPUs thus have certain memory areas (referred to as "local memory" or "shared memory") that usually is only a few KB in size, but particularly efficient for data that is about to be involved in a computation.

So to emphasize this again: GPU programming is an art, that is only remotely related to parallel programming on the CPU. Things like Threads in Java, with all the concurrency infrastructure like ThreadPoolExecutors, ForkJoinPools etc. might give the impression that you just have to split your work somehow and distribute it among several processors. On the GPU, you may encounter challenges on a much lower level: Occupancy, register pressure, shared memory pressure, memory coalescing ... just to name a few.

However, when you have a data-parallel, compute-bound problem to solve, the GPU is the way to go.

A general remark: Your specifically asked for CUDA. But I'd strongly recommend you to also have a look at OpenCL. It has several advantages. First of all, it's an vendor-independent, open industry standard, and there are implementations of OpenCL by AMD, Apple, Intel and NVIDIA. Additionally, there is a much broader support for OpenCL in the Java world. The only case where I'd rather settle for CUDA is when you want to use the CUDA runtime libraries, like CUFFT for FFT or CUBLAS for BLAS (Matrix/Vector operations). Although there are approaches for providing similar libraries for OpenCL, they can not directly be used from Java side, unless you create your own JNI bindings for these libraries.

You might also find it interesting to hear that in October 2012, the OpenJDK HotSpot group started the project "Sumatra": http://openjdk.java.net/projects/sumatra/ . The goal of this project is to provide GPU support directly in the JVM, with support from the JIT. The current status and first results can be seen in their mailing list at http://mail.openjdk.java.net/mailman/listinfo/sumatra-dev

However, a while ago, I collected some resources related to "Java on the GPU" in general. I'll summarize these again here, in no particular order.

(Byte)code translation and OpenCL code generation:

https://github.com/aparapi/aparapi : An open-source library that is created and actively maintained by AMD. In a special "Kernel" class, one can override a specific method which should be executed in parallel. The byte code of this method is loaded at runtime using an own bytecode reader. The code is translated into OpenCL code, which is then compiled using the OpenCL compiler. The result can then be executed on the OpenCL device, which may be a GPU or a CPU. If the compilation into OpenCL is not possible (or no OpenCL is available), the code will still be executed in parallel, using a Thread Pool.

https://github.com/pcpratts/rootbeer1 : An open-source library for converting parts of Java into CUDA programs. It offers dedicated interfaces that may be implemented to indicate that a certain class should be executed on the GPU. In contrast to Aparapi, it tries to automatically serialize the "relevant" data (that is, the complete relevant part of the object graph!) into a representation that is suitable for the GPU.

https://code.google.com/archive/p/java-gpu/ : A library for translating annotated Java code (with some limitations) into CUDA code, which is then compiled into a library that executes the code on the GPU. The Library was developed in the context of a PhD thesis, which contains profound background information about the translation process.

https://github.com/ochafik/ScalaCL : Scala bindings for OpenCL. Allows special Scala collections to be processed in parallel with OpenCL. The functions that are called on the elements of the collections can be usual Scala functions (with some limitations) which are then translated into OpenCL kernels.

Language extensions

http://www.ateji.com/px/index.html : A language extension for Java that allows parallel constructs (e.g. parallel for loops, OpenMP style) which are then executed on the GPU with OpenCL. Unfortunately, this very promising project is no longer maintained.

http://www.habanero.rice.edu/Publications.html (JCUDA) : A library that can translate special Java Code (called JCUDA code) into Java- and CUDA-C code, which can then be compiled and executed on the GPU. However, the library does not seem to be publicly available.

https://www2.informatik.uni-erlangen.de/EN/research/JavaOpenMP/index.html : Java language extension for for OpenMP constructs, with a CUDA backend

Java OpenCL/CUDA binding libraries

https://github.com/ochafik/JavaCL : Java bindings for OpenCL: An object-oriented OpenCL library, based on auto-generated low-level bindings

http://jogamp.org/jocl/www/ : Java bindings for OpenCL: An object-oriented OpenCL library, based on auto-generated low-level bindings

http://www.lwjgl.org/ : Java bindings for OpenCL: Auto-generated low-level bindings and object-oriented convenience classes

http://jocl.org/ : Java bindings for OpenCL: Low-level bindings that are a 1:1 mapping of the original OpenCL API

http://jcuda.org/ : Java bindings for CUDA: Low-level bindings that are a 1:1 mapping of the original CUDA API

Miscellaneous

http://sourceforge.net/projects/jopencl/ : Java bindings for OpenCL. Seem to be no longer maintained since 2010

How to set the first option on a select box using jQuery?

As pointed out by @PierredeLESPINAY in the comments, my original solution was incorrect - it would reset the dropdown to the topmost option, but only because the undefined return value resolved to index 0.

Here's a correct solution, which takes the selected property into account:

$('#name').change(function(){
    $('#name2').val(function () {
        return $(this).find('option').filter(function () {
            return $(this).prop('defaultSelected');
        }).val();
    });
});

DEMO: http://jsfiddle.net/weg82/257/

Original answer - INCORRECT

In jQuery 1.6+ you need to use the .prop method to get the default selection:

// Resets the name2 dropdown to its default value
$('#name2').val( $('#name2').prop('defaultSelected') );

To make it reset dynamically when the first dropdown changes, use the .change event:

$('#name').change(function(){
  $('#name2').val( $('#name2').prop('defaultSelected') );
});

How to override Bootstrap's Panel heading background color?

am assuming custom_class to be your class to override heading color of the panel. just add !important to it or add inline styles or a id and add styles as they will have more specificity over class added styles.

  • with !important

    .custom_class{ background-color: red !important; }

  • with !important

  • with ID :

    #custom_id{ background-color: red; }

-with inline styles :

<div id="custom_id" class="panel panel-default">
      <div class="panel-heading custom_class" style="background-color:red">
      </div>
    </div>

How to create major and minor gridlines with different linestyles in Python

A simple DIY way would be to make the grid yourself:

import matplotlib.pyplot as plt

fig = plt.figure()
ax = fig.add_subplot(111)

ax.plot([1,2,3], [2,3,4], 'ro')

for xmaj in ax.xaxis.get_majorticklocs():
  ax.axvline(x=xmaj, ls='-')
for xmin in ax.xaxis.get_minorticklocs():
  ax.axvline(x=xmin, ls='--')

for ymaj in ax.yaxis.get_majorticklocs():
  ax.axhline(y=ymaj, ls='-')
for ymin in ax.yaxis.get_minorticklocs():
  ax.axhline(y=ymin, ls='--')
plt.show()

How to get the path of a running JAR file?

Use ClassLoader.getResource() to find the URL for your current class.

For example:

package foo;

public class Test
{
    public static void main(String[] args)
    {
        ClassLoader loader = Test.class.getClassLoader();
        System.out.println(loader.getResource("foo/Test.class"));
    }
}

(This example taken from a similar question.)

To find the directory, you'd then need to take apart the URL manually. See the JarClassLoader tutorial for the format of a jar URL.

How to bind Events on Ajax loaded Content?

As of jQuery 1.7, the .live() method is deprecated. Use .on() to attach event handlers.

Example -

$( document ).on( events, selector, data, handler );

CSS rotation cross browser with jquery.animate()

this is my solution:

var matrixRegex = /(?:matrix\(|\s*,\s*)([-+]?[0-9]*\.?[0-9]+(?:[e][-+]?[0-9]+)?)/gi;

var getMatches = function(string, regex) {
    regex || (regex = matrixRegex);
    var matches = [];
    var match;
    while (match = regex.exec(string)) {
        matches.push(match[1]);
    }
    return matches;
};

$.cssHooks['rotation'] = {
    get: function(elem) {
        var $elem = $(elem);
        var matrix = getMatches($elem.css('transform'));
        if (matrix.length != 6) {
            return 0;
        }
        return Math.atan2(parseFloat(matrix[1]), parseFloat(matrix[0])) * (180/Math.PI);
    },
    set: function(elem, val){
        var $elem = $(elem);
        var deg = parseFloat(val);
        if (!isNaN(deg)) {
            $elem.css({ transform: 'rotate(' + deg + 'deg)' });
        }
    }
};
$.cssNumber.rotation = true;
$.fx.step.rotation = function(fx) {
    $.cssHooks.rotation.set(fx.elem, fx.now + fx.unit);
};

then you can use it in the default animate fkt:

//rotate to 90 deg cw
$('selector').animate({ rotation: 90 });

//rotate to -90 deg ccw
$('selector').animate({ rotation: -90 });

//rotate 90 deg cw from current rotation
$('selector').animate({ rotation: '+=90' });

//rotate 90 deg ccw from current rotation
$('selector').animate({ rotation: '-=90' });

How to make a JFrame button open another JFrame class in Netbeans?

How SID is different from Service name in Oracle tnsnames.ora

Quote by @DAC

In short: SID = the unique name of your DB, ServiceName = the alias used when connecting

Not strictly true. SID = unique name of the INSTANCE (eg the oracle process running on the machine). Oracle considers the "Database" to be the files.

Service Name = alias to an INSTANCE (or many instances). The main purpose of this is if you are running a cluster, the client can say "connect me to SALES.acme.com", the DBA can on the fly change the number of instances which are available to SALES.acme.com requests, or even move SALES.acme.com to a completely different database without the client needing to change any settings.

Align Div at bottom on main Div

This isn't really possible in HTML unless you use absolute positioning or javascript. So one solution would be to give this CSS to #bottom_link:

#bottom_link {
    position:absolute;
    bottom:0;
}

Otherwise you'd have to use some javascript. Here's a jQuery block that should do the trick, depending on the simplicity of the page.

$('#bottom_link').css({
    position: 'relative',
    top: $(this).parent().height() - $(this).height()
});

changing permission for files and folder recursively using shell command in mac

You can just use the -R (recursive) flag.

chmod -R 777 /Users/Test/Desktop/PATH

How can I control the width of a label tag?

Giving width to Label is not a proper way. you should take one div or table structure to manage this. but still if you don't want to change your whole code then you can use following code.

label {
  width:200px;
  float: left;
}

How do I resolve a path relative to an ASP.NET MVC 4 application root?

I find this code useful when I need a path outside of a controller, such as when I'm initializing components in Global.asax.cs:

    Dim Number_of_Sims As Long
    Dim i As Long
    Number_of_Sims = 10

    Set Rng = Range("C4:G4")
    For i = 1 To Number_of_Sims
       Rng.Offset(i, 0).Value = Rng.Value
       Worksheets("Sheetname").Calculate 'replacing Sheetname with name of your sheet

Share link on Google+

As of July 25, 2011, the answer is no.

I have looked through their Javascript and it seems they don't want anyone directly accessing their api for +1 at the moment.

The Javascript that does all of the work for the +1 button is here:

https://apis.google.com/js/plusone.js

If you run it through a Javascript cleanup program you can tell that they have obfuscated their code with various functions that only start with letters and constantly refer back to themselves and do cryptic things.

I figure in the next couple of weeks or moths they will release a link based sharing api due to the fact that we will need this for sharing from flash and other web based formats that don't rely on pure html and js.

            + "  \"detail\": {\n"
            + "    \"first_name\": \"Json\",\n"
            + "    \"last_name\": \"Scott\",\n"
            + "    \"age\": \"23\"\n"
            + "  },\n"

            + "}");

    System.out.println(((String) root.get("name")));
    System.out.println(((String) ((Document) root.get("detail")).get("first_name")));
    System.out.println(((String) ((Document) root.get("detail")).get("last_name")));
    System.out.println(((String) ((Document) root.get("detail")).get("age")));

Check if application is installed - Android

Since Android 11 (API level 30), most user-installed apps are not visible by default. In your manifest, you must statically declare which apps you are going to get info about, as in the following:

<manifest>
    <queries>
        <!-- Explicit apps you know in advance about: -->
        <package android:name="com.example.this.app"/>
        <package android:name="com.example.this.other.app"/>
    </queries>

    ...
</manifest>

Then, @RobinKanters' answer works:

private boolean isPackageInstalled(String packageName, PackageManager packageManager) {
    try {
        packageManager.getPackageInfo(packageName, 0);
        return true;
    } catch (PackageManager.NameNotFoundException e) {
        return false;
    }
}

// ...
// This will return true on Android 11 if the app is installed,
// since we declared it above in the manifest.
isPackageInstalled("com.example.this.app", pm);
// This will return false on Android 11 even if the app is installed:
isPackageInstalled("another.random.app", pm);

How to find and replace with regex in excel

Use Google Sheets instead of Excel - this feature is built in, so you can use regex right from the find and replace dialog.

To answer your question:

  1. Copy the data from Excel and paste into Google Sheets
  2. Use the find and replace dialog with regex
  3. Copy the data from Google Sheets and paste back into Excel

Test a string for a substring

There are several other ways, besides using the in operator (easiest):

index()

>>> try:
...   "xxxxABCDyyyy".index("test")
... except ValueError:
...   print "not found"
... else:
...   print "found"
...
not found

find()

>>> if "xxxxABCDyyyy".find("ABCD") != -1:
...   print "found"
...
found

re

>>> import re
>>> if re.search("ABCD" , "xxxxABCDyyyy"):
...  print "found"
...

Function inside a function.?

function inside a function or so called nested functions are very usable if you need to do some recursion processes such as looping true multiple layer of array or a file tree without multiple loops or sometimes i use it to avoid creating classes for small jobs which require dividing and isolating functionality among multiple functions. but before you go for nested functions you have to understand that

  1. child function will not be available unless the main function is executed
  2. Once main function got executed the child functions will be globally available to access
  3. if you need to call the main function twice it will try to re define the child function and this will throw a fatal error

so is this mean you cant use nested functions? No, you can with the below workarounds

first method is to block the child function being re declaring into global function stack by using conditional block with function exists, this will prevent the function being declared multiple times into global function stack.

function myfunc($a,$b=5){
    if(!function_exists("child")){
        function child($x,$c){
            return $c+$x;
        }
    }

    try{
        return child($a,$b);
    }catch(Exception $e){
        throw $e;
    }

}

//once you have invoke the main function you will be able to call the child function
echo myfunc(10,20)+child(10,10);

and the second method will be limiting the function scope of child to local instead of global, to do that you have to define the function as a Anonymous function and assign it to a local variable, then the function will only be available in local scope and will re declared and invokes every time you call the main function.

function myfunc($a,$b=5){
    $child = function ($x,$c){
        return $c+$x;
    };

    try{
        return $child($a,$b);
    }catch(Exception $e){
        throw $e;
    }

}

echo myfunc(10,20);

remember the child will not be available outside the main function or global function stack

Dynamic constant assignment

Because constants in Ruby aren't meant to be changed, Ruby discourages you from assigning to them in parts of code which might get executed more than once, such as inside methods.

Under normal circumstances, you should define the constant inside the class itself:

class MyClass
  MY_CONSTANT = "foo"
end

MyClass::MY_CONSTANT #=> "foo"

If for some reason though you really do need to define a constant inside a method (perhaps for some type of metaprogramming), you can use const_set:

class MyClass
  def my_method
    self.class.const_set(:MY_CONSTANT, "foo")
  end
end

MyClass::MY_CONSTANT
#=> NameError: uninitialized constant MyClass::MY_CONSTANT

MyClass.new.my_method
MyClass::MY_CONSTANT #=> "foo"

Again though, const_set isn't something you should really have to resort to under normal circumstances. If you're not sure whether you really want to be assigning to constants this way, you may want to consider one of the following alternatives:

Class variables

Class variables behave like constants in many ways. They are properties on a class, and they are accessible in subclasses of the class they are defined on.

The difference is that class variables are meant to be modifiable, and can therefore be assigned to inside methods with no issue.

class MyClass
  def self.my_class_variable
    @@my_class_variable
  end
  def my_method
    @@my_class_variable = "foo"
  end
end
class SubClass < MyClass
end

MyClass.my_class_variable
#=> NameError: uninitialized class variable @@my_class_variable in MyClass
SubClass.my_class_variable
#=> NameError: uninitialized class variable @@my_class_variable in MyClass

MyClass.new.my_method
MyClass.my_class_variable #=> "foo"
SubClass.my_class_variable #=> "foo"

Class attributes

Class attributes are a sort of "instance variable on a class". They behave a bit like class variables, except that their values are not shared with subclasses.

class MyClass
  class << self
    attr_accessor :my_class_attribute
  end
  def my_method
    self.class.my_class_attribute = "blah"
  end
end
class SubClass < MyClass
end

MyClass.my_class_attribute #=> nil
SubClass.my_class_attribute #=> nil

MyClass.new.my_method
MyClass.my_class_attribute #=> "blah"
SubClass.my_class_attribute #=> nil

SubClass.new.my_method
SubClass.my_class_attribute #=> "blah"

Instance variables

And just for completeness I should probably mention: if you need to assign a value which can only be determined after your class has been instantiated, there's a good chance you might actually be looking for a plain old instance variable.

class MyClass
  attr_accessor :instance_variable
  def my_method
    @instance_variable = "blah"
  end
end

my_object = MyClass.new
my_object.instance_variable #=> nil
my_object.my_method
my_object.instance_variable #=> "blah"

The cause of your problem is simple. So many people will run into the same problem, Because I did too and it took me hour to figure out. Just in case, someone else stumbles, The problem is in your query, your select statement is calling $dbname instead of table name. So its not found whereby returning false which is boolean. Good luck.

What are the Android SDK build-tools, platform-tools and tools? And which version should be used?

Android SDK build tools are used to debug, build, run and test an Android application.

Android Build Tools can be used to develop and work from command line or IDE (i.e Eclipse or Android Studio).

Also used to connect Android devices and root them.(fastboot, adb and more..)

Always use the latest.(Recommended)

How to convert char to integer in C?

The standard function atoi() will likely do what you want.

A simple example using "atoi":

#include <unistd.h>

int main(int argc, char *argv[])
{
    int useconds = atoi(argv[1]);
    usleep(useconds);
}

Disable / Check for Mock Location (prevent gps spoofing)

I have done some investigation and sharing my results here,this may be useful for others.

First, we can check whether MockSetting option is turned ON

public static boolean isMockSettingsON(Context context) {
    // returns true if mock location enabled, false if not enabled.
    if (Settings.Secure.getString(context.getContentResolver(),
                                Settings.Secure.ALLOW_MOCK_LOCATION).equals("0"))
        return false;
    else
        return true;
}

Second, we can check whether are there other apps in the device, which are using android.permission.ACCESS_MOCK_LOCATION (Location Spoofing Apps)

public static boolean areThereMockPermissionApps(Context context) {
    int count = 0;

    PackageManager pm = context.getPackageManager();
    List<ApplicationInfo> packages =
        pm.getInstalledApplications(PackageManager.GET_META_DATA);

    for (ApplicationInfo applicationInfo : packages) {
        try {
            PackageInfo packageInfo = pm.getPackageInfo(applicationInfo.packageName,
                                                        PackageManager.GET_PERMISSIONS);

            // Get Permissions
            String[] requestedPermissions = packageInfo.requestedPermissions;

            if (requestedPermissions != null) {
                for (int i = 0; i < requestedPermissions.length; i++) {
                    if (requestedPermissions[i]
                        .equals("android.permission.ACCESS_MOCK_LOCATION")
                        && !applicationInfo.packageName.equals(context.getPackageName())) {
                        count++;
                    }
                }
            }
        } catch (NameNotFoundException e) {
            Log.e("Got exception " , e.getMessage());
        }
    }

    if (count > 0)
        return true;
    return false;
}

If both above methods, first and second are true, then there are good chances that location may be spoofed or fake.

Now, spoofing can be avoided by using Location Manager's API.

We can remove the test provider before requesting the location updates from both the providers (Network and GPS)

LocationManager lm = (LocationManager) getSystemService(LOCATION_SERVICE);

try {
    Log.d(TAG ,"Removing Test providers")
    lm.removeTestProvider(LocationManager.GPS_PROVIDER);
} catch (IllegalArgumentException error) {
    Log.d(TAG,"Got exception in removing test  provider");
}

lm.requestLocationUpdates(LocationManager.GPS_PROVIDER, 1000, 0, locationListener);

I have seen that removeTestProvider(~) works very well over Jelly Bean and onwards version. This API appeared to be unreliable till Ice Cream Sandwich.

Flutter Update: Use Geolocator and check Position object's isMocked property.

Data at the root level is invalid

I found that the example I was using had an xml document specification on the first line. I was using a stylesheet I got at this blog entry and the first line was

<?xmlversion="1.0"encoding="utf-8"?>

which was causing the error. When I removed that line, so that the stylesheet started with the line

<xsl:stylesheet version="1.0" xmlns:DTS="www.microsoft.com/SqlServer/Dts" xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform">

my transform worked. By the way, that blog post was the first good, easy-to follow example I have found for trying to get information from the XML definition of an SSIS package, but I did have to modify the paths in the example for my SSIS 2008 packages, so you might too. I also created a version to extract the "flow" from the precedence constraints. My final one looks like this:

    <xsl:stylesheet version="1.0" xmlns:DTS="www.microsoft.com/SqlServer/Dts" xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform">
    <xsl:output method="text" encoding="utf-8" />
    <xsl:template match="/">
    <xsl:text>From,To~</xsl:text>
    <xsl:text>
</xsl:text>
    <xsl:for-each select="//DTS:PrecedenceConstraints/DTS:PrecedenceConstraint">
      <xsl:value-of select="@DTS:From"/>
      <xsl:text>,</xsl:text>
      <xsl:value-of select="@DTS:To"/>
       <xsl:text>~</xsl:text>
      <xsl:text>
</xsl:text>
    </xsl:for-each>
    </xsl:template>
</xsl:stylesheet>

and gave me a CSV with the tilde as my line delimiter. I replaced that with a line feed in my text editor then imported into excel to get a with look at the data flow in the package.

How can I check for an empty/undefined/null string in JavaScript?

If you just want to check whether there's any value, you can do

if (strValue) {
    //do something
}

If you need to check specifically for an empty string over null, I would think checking against "" is your best bet, using the === operator (so that you know that it is, in fact, a string you're comparing against).

if (strValue === "") {
    //...
}

How to refresh Android listview?

i got some problems with dynamic refresh of my listview.

Call notifyDataSetChanged() on your Adapter.

Some additional specifics on how/when to call notifyDataSetChanged() can be viewed in this Google I/O video.

notifyDataSetChanged() did not work properly in my case[ I called the notifyDataSetChanged from another class]. Just in the case i edited the ListView in the running Activity (Thread). That video thanks to Christopher gave the final hint.

In my second class i used

Runnable run = new Runnable(){
     public void run(){
         contactsActivity.update();
     }
};
contactsActivity.runOnUiThread(run);

to acces the update() from my Activity. This update includes

myAdapter.notifyDataSetChanged();

to tell the Adapter to refresh the view. Worked fine as far as I can say.

Get the index of a certain value in an array in PHP

You'll have to create a function for this. I don't think there is any built-in function for that purpose. All PHP arrays are associative by default. So, if you are unsure about their keys, here is the code:

<?php

$given_array = array('Monday' => 'boring',
'Friday' => 'yay',
'boring',
'Sunday' => 'fun',
7 => 'boring',
'Saturday' => 'yay fun',
'Wednesday' => 'boring',
'my life' => 'boring');

$repeating_value = "boring";

function array_value_positions($array, $value){
    $index = 0;
    $value_array = array();
        foreach($array as $v){
            if($value == $v){
                $value_array[$index] = $value;
            }
        $index++;
        }
    return $value_array;
}

$value_array = array_value_positions($given_array, $repeating_value);

$result = "The value '$value_array[0]' was found at these indices in the given array: ";

$key_string = implode(', ',array_keys($value_array));

echo $result . $key_string . "\n";//Output: The value 'boring' was found at these indices in the given array: 0, 2, 4, 6, 7

find the array index of an object with a specific key value in underscore

Lo-Dash, which extends Underscore, has findIndex method, that can find the index of a given instance, or by a given predicate, or according to the properties of a given object.

In your case, I would do:

var index = _.findIndex(tv, { id: voteID });

Give it a try.

Python Save to file

You need to open the file again using open(), but this time passing 'w' to indicate that you want to write to the file. I would also recommend using with to ensure that the file will be closed when you are finished writing to it.

with open('Failed.txt', 'w') as f:
    for ip in [k for k, v in ips.iteritems() if v >=5]:
        f.write(ip)

Naturally you may want to include newlines or other formatting in your output, but the basics are as above.

The same issue with closing your file applies to the reading code. That should look like this:

ips = {}
with open('today','r') as myFile:
    for line in myFile:
        parts = line.split(' ')
        if parts[1] == 'Failure':
            if parts[0] in ips:
                ips[pars[0]] += 1
            else:
                ips[parts[0]] = 0

Print text instead of value from C enum

I use something like this:

in a file "EnumToString.h":

#undef DECL_ENUM_ELEMENT
#undef DECL_ENUM_ELEMENT_VAL
#undef DECL_ENUM_ELEMENT_STR
#undef DECL_ENUM_ELEMENT_VAL_STR
#undef BEGIN_ENUM
#undef END_ENUM

#ifndef GENERATE_ENUM_STRINGS
    #define DECL_ENUM_ELEMENT( element ) element,
    #define DECL_ENUM_ELEMENT_VAL( element, value ) element = value,
    #define DECL_ENUM_ELEMENT_STR( element, descr ) DECL_ENUM_ELEMENT( element )
    #define DECL_ENUM_ELEMENT_VAL_STR( element, value, descr ) DECL_ENUM_ELEMENT_VAL( element, value )
    #define BEGIN_ENUM( ENUM_NAME ) typedef enum tag##ENUM_NAME
    #define END_ENUM( ENUM_NAME ) ENUM_NAME; \
            const char* GetString##ENUM_NAME(enum tag##ENUM_NAME index);
#else
    #define BEGIN_ENUM( ENUM_NAME) const char * GetString##ENUM_NAME( enum tag##ENUM_NAME index ) {\
        switch( index ) {
    #define DECL_ENUM_ELEMENT( element ) case element: return #element; break;
    #define DECL_ENUM_ELEMENT_VAL( element, value ) DECL_ENUM_ELEMENT( element )
    #define DECL_ENUM_ELEMENT_STR( element, descr ) case element: return descr; break;
    #define DECL_ENUM_ELEMENT_VAL_STR( element, value, descr ) DECL_ENUM_ELEMENT_STR( element, descr )

    #define END_ENUM( ENUM_NAME ) default: return "Unknown value"; } } ;

#endif

then in any header file you make the enum declaration, day enum.h

#include "EnumToString.h"

BEGIN_ENUM(Days)
{
    DECL_ENUM_ELEMENT(Sunday) //will render "Sunday"
    DECL_ENUM_ELEMENT(Monday) //will render "Monday"
    DECL_ENUM_ELEMENT_STR(Tuesday, "Tuesday string") //will render "Tuesday string"
    DECL_ENUM_ELEMENT(Wednesday) //will render "Wednesday"
    DECL_ENUM_ELEMENT_VAL_STR(Thursday, 500, "Thursday string") // will render "Thursday string" and the enum will have 500 as value
    /* ... and so on */
}
END_ENUM(MyEnum)

then in a file called EnumToString.c:

#include "enum.h"

#define GENERATE_ENUM_STRINGS  // Start string generation

#include "enum.h"

#undef GENERATE_ENUM_STRINGS   // Stop string generation

then in main.c:

int main(int argc, char* argv[])
{
    Days TheDay = Monday;
    printf( "%d - %s\n", TheDay, GetStringDay(TheDay) ); //will print "1 - Monday"

    TheDay = Thursday;
    printf( "%d - %s\n", TheDay, GetStringDay(TheDay) ); //will print "500 - Thursday string"

    return 0;
}

this will generate "automatically" the strings for any enums declared this way and included in "EnumToString.c"

How to make Apache serve index.php instead of index.html?

PHP will work only on the .php file extension.

If you are on Apache you can also set, in your httpd.conf file, the extensions for PHP. You'll have to find the line:

AddType application/x-httpd-php .php .html
                                     ^^^^^

and add how many extensions, that should be read with the PHP interpreter, as you want.

Can you remove elements from a std::list while iterating through it?

Use std::remove_if algorithm.

Edit:
Work with collections should be like:

  1. prepare collection.
  2. process collection.

Life will be easier if you won't mix this steps.

  1. std::remove_if. or list::remove_if ( if you know that you work with list and not with the TCollection )
  2. std::for_each

How to for each the hashmap?

I generally do the same as cx42net, but I don't explicitly create an Entry.

HashMap<String, HashMap> selects = new HashMap<String, HashMap>();
for (String key : selects.keySet())
{
    HashMap<innerKey, String> boxHolder = selects.get(key);
    ComboBox cb = new ComboBox();
    for (InnerKey innerKey : boxHolder.keySet())
    {
        cb.items.add(boxHolder.get(innerKey));
    }
}

This just seems the most intuitive to me, I think I'm prejudiced against iterating over the values of a map.

Indexing vectors and arrays with +:

Description and examples can be found in IEEE Std 1800-2017 § 11.5.1 "Vector bit-select and part-select addressing". First IEEE appearance is IEEE 1364-2001 (Verilog) § 4.2.1 "Vector bit-select and part-select addressing". Here is an direct example from the LRM:

logic [31: 0] a_vect;
logic [0 :31] b_vect;
logic [63: 0] dword;
integer sel;
a_vect[ 0 +: 8] // == a_vect[ 7 : 0]
a_vect[15 -: 8] // == a_vect[15 : 8]
b_vect[ 0 +: 8] // == b_vect[0 : 7]
b_vect[15 -: 8] // == b_vect[8 :15]
dword[8*sel +: 8] // variable part-select with fixed width

If sel is 0 then dword[8*(0) +: 8] == dword[7:0]
If sel is 7 then dword[8*(7) +: 8] == dword[63:56]

The value to the left always the starting index. The number to the right is the width and must be a positive constant. the + and - indicates to select the bits of a higher or lower index value then the starting index.

Assuming address is in little endian ([msb:lsb]) format, then if(address[2*pointer+:2]) is the equivalent of if({address[2*pointer+1],address[2*pointer]})

javax.crypto.IllegalBlockSizeException : Input length must be multiple of 16 when decrypting with padded cipher

The algorithm you are using, "AES", is a shorthand for "AES/ECB/NoPadding". What this means is that you are using the AES algorithm with 128-bit key size and block size, with the ECB mode of operation and no padding.

In other words: you are only able to encrypt data in blocks of 128 bits or 16 bytes. That's why you are getting that IllegalBlockSizeException exception.

If you want to encrypt data in sizes that are not multiple of 16 bytes, you are either going to have to use some kind of padding, or a cipher-stream. For instance, you could use CBC mode (a mode of operation that effectively transforms a block cipher into a stream cipher) by specifying "AES/CBC/NoPadding" as the algorithm, or PKCS5 padding by specifying "AES/ECB/PKCS5", which will automatically add some bytes at the end of your data in a very specific format to make the size of the ciphertext multiple of 16 bytes, and in a way that the decryption algorithm will understand that it has to ignore some data.

In any case, I strongly suggest that you stop right now what you are doing and go study some very introductory material on cryptography. For instance, check Crypto I on Coursera. You should understand very well the implications of choosing one mode or another, what are their strengths and, most importantly, their weaknesses. Without this knowledge, it is very easy to build systems which are very easy to break.

Update: based on your comments on the question, don't ever encrypt passwords when storing them at a database!!!!! You should never, ever do this. You must HASH the passwords, properly salted, which is completely different from encrypting. Really, please, don't do what you are trying to do... By encrypting the passwords, they can be decrypted. What this means is that you, as the database manager and who knows the secret key, you will be able to read every password stored in your database. Either you knew this and are doing something very, very bad, or you didn't know this, and should get shocked and stop it.

Use of PUT vs PATCH methods in REST API real life scenarios

Though Dan Lowe's excellent answer very thoroughly answered the OP's question about the difference between PUT and PATCH, its answer to the question of why PATCH is not idempotent is not quite correct.

To show why PATCH isn't idempotent, it helps to start with the definition of idempotence (from Wikipedia):

The term idempotent is used more comprehensively to describe an operation that will produce the same results if executed once or multiple times [...] An idempotent function is one that has the property f(f(x)) = f(x) for any value x.

In more accessible language, an idempotent PATCH could be defined as: After PATCHing a resource with a patch document, all subsequent PATCH calls to the same resource with the same patch document will not change the resource.

Conversely, a non-idempotent operation is one where f(f(x)) != f(x), which for PATCH could be stated as: After PATCHing a resource with a patch document, subsequent PATCH calls to the same resource with the same patch document do change the resource.

To illustrate a non-idempotent PATCH, suppose there is a /users resource, and suppose that calling GET /users returns a list of users, currently:

[{ "id": 1, "username": "firstuser", "email": "[email protected]" }]

Rather than PATCHing /users/{id}, as in the OP's example, suppose the server allows PATCHing /users. Let's issue this PATCH request:

PATCH /users
[{ "op": "add", "username": "newuser", "email": "[email protected]" }]

Our patch document instructs the server to add a new user called newuser to the list of users. After calling this the first time, GET /users would return:

[{ "id": 1, "username": "firstuser", "email": "[email protected]" },
 { "id": 2, "username": "newuser", "email": "[email protected]" }]

Now, if we issue the exact same PATCH request as above, what happens? (For the sake of this example, let's assume that the /users resource allows duplicate usernames.) The "op" is "add", so a new user is added to the list, and a subsequent GET /users returns:

[{ "id": 1, "username": "firstuser", "email": "[email protected]" },
 { "id": 2, "username": "newuser", "email": "[email protected]" },
 { "id": 3, "username": "newuser", "email": "[email protected]" }]

The /users resource has changed again, even though we issued the exact same PATCH against the exact same endpoint. If our PATCH is f(x), f(f(x)) is not the same as f(x), and therefore, this particular PATCH is not idempotent.

Although PATCH isn't guaranteed to be idempotent, there's nothing in the PATCH specification to prevent you from making all PATCH operations on your particular server idempotent. RFC 5789 even anticipates advantages from idempotent PATCH requests:

A PATCH request can be issued in such a way as to be idempotent, which also helps prevent bad outcomes from collisions between two PATCH requests on the same resource in a similar time frame.

In Dan's example, his PATCH operation is, in fact, idempotent. In that example, the /users/1 entity changed between our PATCH requests, but not because of our PATCH requests; it was actually the Post Office's different patch document that caused the zip code to change. The Post Office's different PATCH is a different operation; if our PATCH is f(x), the Post Office's PATCH is g(x). Idempotence states that f(f(f(x))) = f(x), but makes no guarantes about f(g(f(x))).

Rewrite left outer join involving multiple tables from Informix to Oracle

I'm guessing that you want something like

SELECT tab1.a, tab2.b, tab3.c, tab4.d
  FROM table1 tab1
       JOIN table2 tab2 ON (tab1.fg = tab2.fg)
       LEFT OUTER JOIN table4 tab4 ON (tab1.ss = tab4.ss)
       LEFT OUTER JOIN table3 tab3 ON (tab4.xya = tab3.xya and tab3.desc = 'XYZ')
       LEFT OUTER JOIN table5 tab5 on (tab4.kk = tab5.kk AND
                                       tab3.dd = tab5.dd)

Deploy a project using Git push

My take on Christians solution.

git archive --prefix=deploy/  master | tar -x -C $TMPDIR | rsync $TMPDIR/deploy/ --copy-links -av [email protected]:/home/user/my_app && rm -rf $TMPDIR/deploy
  • Archives the master branch into tar
  • Extracts tar archive into deploy dir in system temp folder.

How do I change the title of the "back" button on a Navigation Bar

This should be placed in the method that calls the ViewController titled "NewTitle". Right before the push or popViewController statement.

UIBarButtonItem *newBackButton =
        [[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithTitle:@"NewTitle"
                                         style:UIBarButtonItemStyleBordered
                                        target:nil
                                        action:nil];
[[self navigationItem] setBackBarButtonItem:newBackButton];
[newBackButton release];

Force uninstall of Visual Studio

Microsoft started to address the issue in late 2015 by releasing VisualStudioUninstaller.

They abandoned the solution for a while; however work has begun again as of April 2016.

There has finally been an official release for this uninstaller in April 2016 which is described as being "designed to cleanup/scorch all Preview/RC/RTM releases of Visual Studio 2013, Visual Studio 2015 and Visual Studio vNext".

Pandas: ValueError: cannot convert float NaN to integer

I know this has been answered but wanted to provide alternate solution for anyone in the future:

You can use .loc to subset the dataframe by only values that are notnull(), and then subset out the 'x' column only. Take that same vector, and apply(int) to it.

If column x is float:

df.loc[df['x'].notnull(), 'x'] = df.loc[df['x'].notnull(), 'x'].apply(int)

CFNetwork SSLHandshake failed iOS 9

In iOS 10+, the TLS string MUST be of the form "TLSv1.0". It can't just be "1.0". (Sigh)

The following combination of the other Answers works.

Angularjs how to upload multipart form data and a file?

First of all

  1. You don't need any special changes in the structure. I mean: html input tags.

_x000D_
_x000D_
<input accept="image/*" name="file" ng-value="fileToUpload"_x000D_
       value="{{fileToUpload}}" file-model="fileToUpload"_x000D_
       set-file-data="fileToUpload = value;" _x000D_
       type="file" id="my_file" />
_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_

1.2 create own directive,

_x000D_
_x000D_
.directive("fileModel",function() {_x000D_
 return {_x000D_
  restrict: 'EA',_x000D_
  scope: {_x000D_
   setFileData: "&"_x000D_
  },_x000D_
  link: function(scope, ele, attrs) {_x000D_
   ele.on('change', function() {_x000D_
    scope.$apply(function() {_x000D_
     var val = ele[0].files[0];_x000D_
     scope.setFileData({ value: val });_x000D_
    });_x000D_
   });_x000D_
  }_x000D_
 }_x000D_
})
_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_

  1. In module with $httpProvider add dependency like ( Accept, Content-Type etc) with multipart/form-data. (Suggestion would be, accept response in json format) For e.g:

$httpProvider.defaults.headers.post['Accept'] = 'application/json, text/javascript'; $httpProvider.defaults.headers.post['Content-Type'] = 'multipart/form-data; charset=utf-8';

  1. Then create separate function in controller to handle form submit call. like for e.g below code:

  2. In service function handle "responseType" param purposely so that server should not throw "byteerror".

  3. transformRequest, to modify request format with attached identity.

  4. withCredentials : false, for HTTP authentication information.

_x000D_
_x000D_
in service:_x000D_

  .service('fileUpload', ['$http', 'ajaxService',_x000D_
    function($http, ajaxService) {_x000D_
_x000D_
      this.uploadFileToUrl = function(data) {_x000D_

Using Apache POI how to read a specific excel column

You could just loop the rows and read the same cell from each row (doesn't this comprise a column?).

Getting "type or namespace name could not be found" but everything seems ok?

In my case, I find the reference in the VisualStudio have a triangle, and a exclamation mark as this image,

then, I right click remove it, and add the dll reference correctly again, the problem was solved.

Possible to perform cross-database queries with PostgreSQL?

see https://www.cybertec-postgresql.com/en/joining-data-from-multiple-postgres-databases/ [published 2017]

These days you also have the option to use https://prestodb.io/

You can run SQL on that PrestoDB node and it will distribute the SQL query as required. It can connect to the same node twice for different databases, or it might be connecting to different nodes on different hosts.

It does not support:

DELETE
ALTER TABLE
CREATE TABLE (CREATE TABLE AS is supported)
GRANT
REVOKE
SHOW GRANTS
SHOW ROLES
SHOW ROLE GRANTS

So you should only use it for SELECT and JOIN needs. Connect directly to each database for the above needs. (It looks like you can also INSERT or UPDATE which is nice)

Client applications connect to PrestoDB primarily using JDBC, but other types of connection are possible including a Tableu compatible web API

This is an open source tool governed by the Linux Foundation and Presto Foundation.

The founding members of the Presto Foundation are: Facebook, Uber, Twitter, and Alibaba.

The current members are: Facebook, Uber, Twitter, Alibaba, Alluxio, Ahana, Upsolver, and Intel.

Can't operator == be applied to generic types in C#?

In general, EqualityComparer<T>.Default.Equals should do the job with anything that implements IEquatable<T>, or that has a sensible Equals implementation.

If, however, == and Equals are implemented differently for some reason, then my work on generic operators should be useful; it supports the operator versions of (among others):

  • Equal(T value1, T value2)
  • NotEqual(T value1, T value2)
  • GreaterThan(T value1, T value2)
  • LessThan(T value1, T value2)
  • GreaterThanOrEqual(T value1, T value2)
  • LessThanOrEqual(T value1, T value2)

Change the name of a key in dictionary

To convert all the keys in the dictionary

Suppose this is your dictionary:

>>> sample = {'person-id': '3', 'person-name': 'Bob'}

To convert all the dashes to underscores in the sample dictionary key:

>>> sample = {key.replace('-', '_'): sample.pop(key) for key in sample.keys()}
>>> sample
>>> {'person_id': '3', 'person_name': 'Bob'}

how to get the ipaddress of a virtual box running on local machine

Login to virtual machine use below command to check ip address. (anyone will work)

  1. ifconfig
  2. ip addr show

If you used NAT for your virtual machine settings(your machine ip will be 10.0.2.15), then you have to use port forwarding to connect to machine. IP address will be 127.0.0.1

If you used bridged networking/Host only networking, then you will have separate Ip address. Use that IP address to connect virtual machine

Add object to ArrayList at specified index

@Maethortje

The problem here is java creates an empty list when you called new ArrayList and

while trying to add an element at specified position you got IndexOutOfBound , so the list should have some elements at their position.

Please try following

/*
  Add an element to specified index of Java ArrayList Example
  This Java Example shows how to add an element at specified index of java
  ArrayList object using add method.
*/

import java.util.ArrayList;

public class AddElementToSpecifiedIndexArrayListExample {

  public static void main(String[] args) {
    //create an ArrayList object
    ArrayList arrayList = new ArrayList();

    //Add elements to Arraylist
    arrayList.add("1");
    arrayList.add("2");
    arrayList.add("3");

    /*
      To add an element at the specified index of ArrayList use
      void add(int index, Object obj) method.
      This method inserts the specified element at the specified index in the
      ArrayList.
    */
    arrayList.add(1,"INSERTED ELEMENT");

    /*
      Please note that add method DOES NOT overwrites the element previously
      at the specified index in the list. It shifts the elements to right side
      and increasing the list size by 1.
    */

    System.out.println("ArrayList contains...");
    //display elements of ArrayList
    for(int index=0; index < arrayList.size(); index++)
      System.out.println(arrayList.get(index));

  }
}

/*
Output would be
ArrayList contains...
1
INSERTED ELEMENT
2

HighCharts Hide Series Name from the Legend

If you don't want to show the series names in the legend you can disable them by setting showInLegend:false.

example:

series: [{
   showInLegend: false,
   name: "<b><?php echo $title; ?></b>",
   data: [<?php echo $yaxis; ?>],
}]

How do I fix an "Invalid license data. Reinstall is required." error in Visual C# 2010 Express?

I had this problem and finally got passed it. I tried the solutions above to no effect. (I set my license keys to open permissions, set my clock forward, etc.) After two days I gave up...

In the end, I installed VS 2012 Express, which could handle VS 2010 solutions but could not compile 2010 code (without a COFF error). After finding this article on requiring VS 2010 to be installed to compile 2010 solution in VS 2012, I reinstalled VS 2010 even though I assumed it wouldn't work on its own. I tried opening 2010 anyway and it worked!

Convert Uri to String and String to Uri

You can use Drawable instead of Uri.

   ImageView iv=(ImageView)findViewById(R.id.imageView1);

   Drawable image = Drawable.createFromPath(pathName);
   iv.setImageDrawable(image);

This would work.

What is the difference between char, nchar, varchar, and nvarchar in SQL Server?

Just to clear up... or sum up...

  • nchar and nvarchar can store Unicode characters.
  • char and varchar cannot store Unicode characters.
  • char and nchar are fixed-length which will reserve storage space for number of characters you specify even if you don't use up all that space.
  • varchar and nvarchar are variable-length which will only use up spaces for the characters you store. It will not reserve storage like char or nchar.

nchar and nvarchar will take up twice as much storage space, so it may be wise to use them only if you need Unicode support.

What is referencedColumnName used for in JPA?

  • name attribute points to the column containing the asociation, i.e. column name of the foreign key
  • referencedColumnName attribute points to the related column in asociated/referenced entity, i.e. column name of the primary key

You are not required to fill the referencedColumnName if the referenced entity has single column as PK, because there is no doubt what column it references (i.e. the Address single column ID).

@ManyToOne
@JoinColumn(name="ADDR_ID")
public Address getAddress() { return address; }

However if the referenced entity has PK that spans multiple columns the order in which you specify @JoinColumn annotations has significance. It might work without the referencedColumnName specified, but that is just by luck. So you should map it like this:

@ManyToOne
@JoinColumns({
    @JoinColumn(name="ADDR_ID", referencedColumnName="ID"),
    @JoinColumn(name="ADDR_ZIP", referencedColumnName="ZIP")
})
public Address getAddress() { return address; }

or in case of ManyToMany:

@ManyToMany
@JoinTable(
    name="CUST_ADDR",
    joinColumns=
        @JoinColumn(name="CUST_ID"),
    inverseJoinColumns={
        @JoinColumn(name="ADDR_ID", referencedColumnName="ID"),
        @JoinColumn(name="ADDR_ZIP", referencedColumnName="ZIP")
    }
)

Real life example

Two queries generated by Hibernate of the same join table mapping, both without referenced column specified. Only the order of @JoinColumn annotations were changed.

/* load collection Client.emails */
select
emails0_.id_client as id1_18_1_,
emails0_.rev as rev18_1_,
emails0_.id_email as id3_1_,
email1_.id_email as id1_6_0_

from client_email emails0_
inner join email email1_ on emails0_.id_email=email1_.id_email

where emails0_.id_client='2' and
emails0_.rev='18'
/* load collection Client.emails */
select
emails0_.rev as rev18_1_,
emails0_.id_client as id2_18_1_,
emails0_.id_email as id3_1_,
email1_.id_email as id1_6_0_

from client_email emails0_
inner join email email1_ on emails0_.id_email=email1_.id_email

where emails0_.rev='2' and
emails0_.id_client='18'

We are querying a join table to get client's emails. The {2, 18} is composite ID of Client. The order of column names is determined by your order of @JoinColumn annotations. The order of both integers is always the same, probably sorted by hibernate and that's why proper alignment with join table columns is required and we can't or should rely on mapping order.

The interesting thing is the order of the integers does not match the order in which they are mapped in the entity - in that case I would expect {18, 2}. So it seems the Hibernate is sorting the column names before it use them in query. If this is true and you would order your @JoinColumn in the same way you would not need referencedColumnName, but I say this only for illustration.

Properly filled referencedColumnName attributes result in exactly same query without the ambiguity, in my case the second query (rev = 2, id_client = 18).

how to parse JSON file with GSON

You have to fetch the whole data in the list and then do the iteration as it is a file and will become inefficient otherwise.

When is each sorting algorithm used?

First, a definition, since it's pretty important: A stable sort is one that's guaranteed not to reorder elements with identical keys.

Recommendations:

Quick sort: When you don't need a stable sort and average case performance matters more than worst case performance. A quick sort is O(N log N) on average, O(N^2) in the worst case. A good implementation uses O(log N) auxiliary storage in the form of stack space for recursion.

Merge sort: When you need a stable, O(N log N) sort, this is about your only option. The only downsides to it are that it uses O(N) auxiliary space and has a slightly larger constant than a quick sort. There are some in-place merge sorts, but AFAIK they are all either not stable or worse than O(N log N). Even the O(N log N) in place sorts have so much larger a constant than the plain old merge sort that they're more theoretical curiosities than useful algorithms.

Heap sort: When you don't need a stable sort and you care more about worst case performance than average case performance. It's guaranteed to be O(N log N), and uses O(1) auxiliary space, meaning that you won't unexpectedly run out of heap or stack space on very large inputs.

Introsort: This is a quick sort that switches to a heap sort after a certain recursion depth to get around quick sort's O(N^2) worst case. It's almost always better than a plain old quick sort, since you get the average case of a quick sort, with guaranteed O(N log N) performance. Probably the only reason to use a heap sort instead of this is in severely memory constrained systems where O(log N) stack space is practically significant.

Insertion sort: When N is guaranteed to be small, including as the base case of a quick sort or merge sort. While this is O(N^2), it has a very small constant and is a stable sort.

Bubble sort, selection sort: When you're doing something quick and dirty and for some reason you can't just use the standard library's sorting algorithm. The only advantage these have over insertion sort is being slightly easier to implement.

Non-comparison sorts: Under some fairly limited conditions it's possible to break the O(N log N) barrier and sort in O(N). Here are some cases where that's worth a try:

Counting sort: When you are sorting integers with a limited range.

Radix sort: When log(N) is significantly larger than K, where K is the number of radix digits.

Bucket sort: When you can guarantee that your input is approximately uniformly distributed.

How can I call PHP functions by JavaScript?

This work perfectly for me:

To call a PHP function (with parameters too) you can, like a lot of people said, send a parameter opening the PHP file and from there check the value of the parameter to call the function. But you can also do that lot of people say it's impossible: directly call the proper PHP function, without adding code to the PHP file.

I found a way:

This for JavaScript:

function callPHP(expression, objs, afterHandler) {
        expression = expression.trim();
        var si = expression.indexOf("(");
        if (si == -1)
            expression += "()";
        else if (Object.keys(objs).length > 0) {
            var sfrom = expression.substring(si + 1);
            var se = sfrom.indexOf(")");
            var result = sfrom.substring(0, se).trim();
            if (result.length > 0) {
                var params = result.split(",");
                var theend = expression.substring(expression.length - sfrom.length + se);
                expression = expression.substring(0, si + 1);
                for (var i = 0; i < params.length; i++) {
                    var param = params[i].trim();
                    if (param in objs) {
                        var value = objs[param];
                        if (typeof value == "string")
                            value = "'" + value + "'";

    }

This for a PHP file which isn't your PHP file, but another, which path is written in url variable of JS function callPHP , and it's required to evaluate PHP code. This file is called 'phpCompiler.php' and it's in the root directory of your website:

<?php
$code = urldecode($_REQUEST['code']);
$lines = explode(";", $code);
foreach($lines as $line)
    eval(trim($line, " ") . ";");
?>

So, your PHP code remain equals except return values, which will be echoed:

<?php
function add($a,$b){
  $c=$a+$b;
  echo $c;
}
function mult($a,$b){
  $c=$a*$b;
  echo $c;
}

function divide($a,$b){
  $c=$a/$b;
  echo $c;
}
?>

I suggest you to remember that jQuery is required:
Download it from Google CDN:

<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/3.1.1/jquery.min.js"></script>

or from Microsoft CDN: "I prefer Google! :)"

<script src="https://ajax.aspnetcdn.com/ajax/jQuery/jquery-3.1.1.min.js"></script>

Better is to download the file from one of two CDNs and put it as local file, so the startup loading of your website's faster!

The choice is to you!

Now you finished! I just tell you how to use callPHP function. This is the JavaScript to call PHP:

//Names of parameters are custom, they haven't to be equals of these of the PHP file.
//These fake names are required to assign value to the parameters in PHP
//using an hash table.
callPHP("add(num1, num2)", {
            'num1' : 1,
            'num2' : 2
        },
            function(output) {
                alert(output); //This to display the output of the PHP file.
        });

Could not read JSON: Can not deserialize instance of hello.Country[] out of START_OBJECT token

In my case, I was getting value of <input type="text"> with JQuery and I did it like this:

var newUserInfo = { "lastName": inputLastName[0].value, "userName": inputUsername[0].value,
 "firstName": inputFirstName[0] , "email": inputEmail[0].value}

And I was constantly getting this exception

com.fasterxml.jackson.databind.JsonMappingException: Can not deserialize instance of java.lang.String out of START_OBJECT token at [Source: java.io.PushbackInputStream@39cb6c98; line: 1, column: 54] (through reference chain: com.springboot.domain.User["firstName"]).

And I banged my head for like an hour until I realised that I forgot to write .value after this"firstName": inputFirstName[0].

So, the correct solution was:

var newUserInfo = { "lastName": inputLastName[0].value, "userName": inputUsername[0].value,
 "firstName": inputFirstName[0].value , "email": inputEmail[0].value}

I came here because I had this problem and I hope I save someone else hours of misery.

Cheers :)

Formatting NSDate into particular styles for both year, month, day, and hour, minute, seconds

NSDate *date         = [NSDate date];
NSDateFormatter *df = [[NSDateFormatter alloc] init];
[df setDateFormat:@"yyyy-MM-dd"]
NSString *dateString  = [df stringFromDate:date];
[df setDateFormat:@"hh:mm:ss"];
NSString *hoursString = [df stringFromDate:date];

Thats it, you got it all you want.

Hosting a Maven repository on github

Don't use GitHub as a Maven Repository.

Edit: This option gets a lot of down votes, but no comments as to why. This is the correct option regardless of the technical capabilities to actually host on GitHub. Hosting on GitHub is wrong for all the reasons outlined below and without comments I can't improve the answer to clarify your issues.

Best Option - Collaborate with the Original Project

The best option is to convince the original project to include your changes and stick with the original.

Alternative - Maintain your own Fork

Since you have forked an open source library, and your fork is also open source, you can upload your fork to Maven Central (read Guide to uploading artifacts to the Central Repository) by giving it a new groupId and maybe a new artifactId.

Only consider this option if you are willing to maintain this fork until the changes are incorporated into the original project and then you should abandon this one.

Really consider hard whether a fork is the right option. Read the myriad Google results for 'why not to fork'

Reasoning

Bloating your repository with jars increases download size for no benefit

A jar is an output of your project, it can be regenerated at any time from its inputs, and your GitHub repo should contain only inputs.

Don't believe me? Then check Google results for 'dont store binaries in git'.

GitHub's help Working with large files will tell you the same thing. Admittedly jar's aren't large but they are larger than the source code and once a jar has been created by a release they have no reason to be versioned - that is what a new release is for.

Defining multiple repos in your pom.xml slows your build down by Number of Repositories times Number of Artifacts

Stephen Connolly says:

If anyone adds your repo they impact their build performance as they now have another repo to check artifacts against... It's not a big problem if you only have to add one repo... But the problem grows and the next thing you know your maven build is checking 50 repos for every artifact and build time is a dog.

That's right! Maven needs to check every artifact (and its dependencies) defined in your pom.xml against every Repository you have defined, as a newer version might be available in any of those repositories.

Try it out for yourself and you will feel the pain of a slow build.

The best place for artifacts is in Maven Central, as its the central place for jars, and this means your build will only ever check one place.

You can read some more about repositories at Maven's documentation on Introduction to Repositories

Can't find file executable in your configured search path for gnc gcc compiler

I'm a total noob but I reinstalled over the codeblocks giving me these "Can't find file executable in your configured search path for gnc gcc compiler" errors by downloading:

codeblocks-20.03mingw-setup.exe

(IMPORTANT: make sure it has the "mingw" in the file download name, that has the compiler build that is required to compile the code which doesn't automatically comes with the main codeblocks editor software download because codeblocks already assumes you already have another compiler installed on your computer {visual studio 2019 or such}).

Then when I created a new project (console application) and used the defaults to quickly test it out.

It gave me errors.

So I went to Settings > Compiler > Selected Compiler set to: GNU GCC Compiler > Click on the "Tooolchain executables" tab > Click on Auto-Detect > Should say "C:\Progam Files\CodeBlocks\MinGW" > Click OK.

Build and run a simple hello world code.

Should work! If not, look for the "MingGW" in the C:\Program Files\CodeBlocks and select it.

>>> newstring = mystring.replace("'", "")
>>> newstring

How to identify all stored procedures referring a particular table

You have basically 2 options:

----Option 1

SELECT DISTINCT so.name
FROM syscomments sc
INNER JOIN sysobjects so ON sc.id=so.id
WHERE sc.TEXT LIKE '%tablename%'

----Option 2

SELECT DISTINCT o.name, o.xtype
FROM syscomments c
INNER JOIN sysobjects o ON c.id=o.id
WHERE c.TEXT LIKE '%tablename%'

These 2 queries will get you all the stored procedures that are referring the table you desire. This query relies on 2 sys tables which are sysobjects and syscomments. The sysobjects is where all of your DB object names are stored this includes the stored procedures.

The syscomments contains the text for all of your procedures.

If you query: SELECT * FROM syscomments

You'll have a table containing the id which is the mapping to the sysobjects table with the text contained in the stored procedures as the last column.

How would I access variables from one class to another?

var1 and var2 are instance variables. That means that you have to send the instance of ClassA to ClassB in order for ClassB to access it, i.e:

class ClassA(object):
    def __init__(self):
        self.var1 = 1
        self.var2 = 2

    def methodA(self):
        self.var1 = self.var1 + self.var2
        return self.var1

class ClassB(ClassA):
    def __init__(self, class_a):
        self.var1 = class_a.var1
        self.var2 = class_a.var2

object1 = ClassA()
sum = object1.methodA()
object2 = ClassB(object1)
print sum

On the other hand - if you were to use class variables, you could access var1 and var2 without sending object1 as a parameter to ClassB.

class ClassA(object):
    var1 = 0
    var2 = 0
    def __init__(self):
        ClassA.var1 = 1
        ClassA.var2 = 2

    def methodA(self):
        ClassA.var1 = ClassA.var1 + ClassA.var2
        return ClassA.var1

class ClassB(ClassA):
    def __init__(self):
        print ClassA.var1
        print ClassA.var2

object1 = ClassA()
sum = object1.methodA()
object2 = ClassB()
print sum

Note, however, that class variables are shared among all instances of its class.

Differences between Microsoft .NET 4.0 full Framework and Client Profile

You should deploy "Client Profile" instead of "Full Framework" inside a corporation mostly in one case only: you want explicitly deny some .NET features are running on the client computers. The only real case is denying of ASP.NET on the client machines of the corporation, for example, because of security reasons or the existing corporate policy.

Saving of less than 8 MB on client computer can not be a serious reason of "Client Profile" deployment in a corporation. The risk of the necessity of the deployment of the "Full Framework" later in the corporation is higher than costs of 8 MB per client.

How to configure Chrome's Java plugin so it uses an existing JDK in the machine

On Windows 7 64-bit, I added the registry entry using the following script:

@echo off
reg add "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\MozillaPlugins\@java.com/JavaPlugin"
reg add "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\MozillaPlugins\@java.com/JavaPlugin" /v "Description" /t REG_SZ /d "Oracle Next Generation Java Plug-In"
reg add "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\MozillaPlugins\@java.com/JavaPlugin" /v "GeckoVersion" /t REG_SZ /d "1.9"
reg add "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\MozillaPlugins\@java.com/JavaPlugin" /v "Path" /t REG_SZ /d "C:\Oracle\jdev11123\jdk160_24\jre\bin\new_plugin\npjp2.dll"
reg add "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\MozillaPlugins\@java.com/JavaPlugin" /v "ProductName" /t REG_SZ /d "Oracle Java Plug-In"

reg add "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\MozillaPlugins\@java.com/JavaPlugin" /v "Version" /t REG_SZ /d "10.3.1"

Note that you will have to change the Path.

How to write and save html file in python?

You can create multi-line strings by enclosing them in triple quotes. So you can store your HTML in a string and pass that string to write():

html_str = """
<table border=1>
     <tr>
       <th>Number</th>
       <th>Square</th>
     </tr>
     <indent>
     <% for i in range(10): %>
       <tr>
         <td><%= i %></td>
         <td><%= i**2 %></td>
       </tr>
     </indent>
</table>
"""

Html_file= open("filename","w")
Html_file.write(html_str)
Html_file.close()

Check whether a path is valid

Try Uri.IsWellFormedUriString():

  • The string is not correctly escaped.

      http://www.example.com/path???/file name

  • The string is an absolute Uri that represents an implicit file Uri.

      c:\\directory\filename

  • The string is an absolute URI that is missing a slash before the path.

      file://c:/directory/filename

  • The string contains unescaped backslashes even if they are treated as forward slashes.

      http:\\host/path/file

  • The string represents a hierarchical absolute Uri and does not contain "://".

      www.example.com/path/file

  • The parser for the Uri.Scheme indicates that the original string was not well-formed.

      The example depends on the scheme of the URI.

What is the purpose of nameof?

Another use case of nameof is to check tab pages, instead of checking the index you can check the Name property of the tabpages as follow:

if(tabControl.SelectedTab.Name == nameof(tabSettings))
{
    // Do something
}

Less messy :)

Lining up labels with radio buttons in bootstrap

Since Bootstrap 3 you have to use checkbox-inline and radio-inline classes on the label.

This takes care of vertical alignment.

<label class="checkbox-inline">
    <input type="checkbox" id="inlineCheckbox1" value="option1"> 1
</label>
<label class="radio-inline">
    <input type="radio" name="inlineRadioOptions" id="inlineRadio1" value="option1"> 1

How to obtain the start time and end time of a day?

The following code takes the OP's original formula, and adjusts for the ms inexactness:

    private static Date getStartOfDay() {
        Calendar calendar = Calendar.getInstance();
        int year = calendar.get(Calendar.YEAR);
        int month = calendar.get(Calendar.MONTH);
        int day = calendar.get(Calendar.DATE);
        calendar.set(year, month, day, 0, 0, 0);
        long approximateTimestamp = calendar.getTime().getTime();
        long extraMillis = (approximateTimestamp % 1000);
        long exactTimestamp = approximateTimestamp - extraMillis;
        return new Date(exactTimestamp);
    }

    private static Date getEndOfDay() {
        Calendar calendar = Calendar.getInstance();
        int year = calendar.get(Calendar.YEAR);
        int month = calendar.get(Calendar.MONTH);
        int day = calendar.get(Calendar.DATE);
        calendar.set(year, month, day, 23, 59, 59);
        long approximateTimestamp = calendar.getTime().getTime();
        long extraMillis = (approximateTimestamp % 1000);
        long exactTimestamp = approximateTimestamp - extraMillis + 999;
        return new Date(exactTimestamp);
    }

Unlike many other answers on this thread, it is compatible with older versions of Java and Android APIs.

How to update TypeScript to latest version with npm?

Try npm install -g typescript@latest. You can also use npm update instead of install, without the latest modifier.

Copy tables from one database to another in SQL Server

This should work:

SELECT *
INTO DestinationDB..MyDestinationTable
FROM SourceDB..MySourceTable

It will not copy constraints, defaults or indexes. The table created will not have a clustered index.

Alternatively you could:

INSERT INTO DestinationDB..MyDestinationTable
SELECT * FROM SourceDB..MySourceTable

If your destination table exists and is empty.

Delegates in swift?

Delegates are a design pattern that allows one object to send messages to another object when a specific event happens. Imagine an object A calls an object B to perform an action. Once the action is complete, object A should know that B has completed the task and take necessary action, this can be achieved with the help of delegates! Here is a tutorial implementing delegates step by step in swift 3

Generate a random point within a circle (uniformly)

The area element in a circle is dA=rdr*dphi. That extra factor r destroyed your idea to randomly choose a r and phi. While phi is distributed flat, r is not, but flat in 1/r (i.e. you are more likely to hit the boundary than "the bull's eye").

So to generate points evenly distributed over the circle pick phi from a flat distribution and r from a 1/r distribution.

Alternatively use the Monte Carlo method proposed by Mehrdad.

EDIT

To pick a random r flat in 1/r you could pick a random x from the interval [1/R, infinity] and calculate r=1/x. r is then distributed flat in 1/r.

To calculate a random phi pick a random x from the interval [0, 1] and calculate phi=2*pi*x.

Where does error CS0433 "Type 'X' already exists in both A.dll and B.dll " come from?

I'm converting an old asp.net (v 1 or 2) web site to run under .net 4.5 as a web application.

My solution was to move the user control event handler delegates that were causing the problem to a separate physical file:

//move this line to a new physical file:
public delegate void LocationSearchedEventHandler( object sender );

public partial class controls_Drives_LocationAddPanel : UserControl
{
    public event LocationAddedEventHandler LocationAdded;
    protected virtual void OnLocationAdded(LocationAddEventArg e)
    {

How to remove unique key from mysql table

  DROP INDEX index_name;

To drop primary key use this one -

ALTER TABLE tbl_quiz_attempt_master
  DROP INDEX `PRIMARY`;

SyntaxError: Non-ASCII character '\xa3' in file when function returns '£'

I'd recommend reading that PEP the error gives you. The problem is that your code is trying to use the ASCII encoding, but the pound symbol is not an ASCII character. Try using UTF-8 encoding. You can start by putting # -*- coding: utf-8 -*- at the top of your .py file. To get more advanced, you can also define encodings on a string by string basis in your code. However, if you are trying to put the pound sign literal in to your code, you'll need an encoding that supports it for the entire file.

How to create a HTML Table from a PHP array?

Here is my answer.

function array2Html($array, $table = true)
{
    $out = '';
    foreach ($array as $key => $value) {
        if (is_array($value)) {
            if (!isset($tableHeader)) {
                $tableHeader =
                    '<th>' .
                    implode('</th><th>', array_keys($value)) .
                    '</th>';
            }
            array_keys($value);
            $out .= '<tr>';
            $out .= array2Html($value, false);
            $out .= '</tr>';
        } else {
            $out .= "<td>$value</td>";
        }
    }

    if ($table) {
        return '<table>' . $tableHeader . $out . '</table>';
    } else {
        return $out;
    }
}

However, your table headers have to be a part of the array, which is pretty common when it comes from a database. e.g.

$shop = array(
    array(
        'title' => 'rose',
        'price' => 1.25,
        'number' => 15,
    ),
    array(
        'title' => 'daisy',
        'price' => 0.75,
        'number' => 25,
    ),
    array(
        'title' => 'orchid',
        'price' => 1.15,
        'number' => 7,
    ),
);

print arrayToHtml($shop);

Hope it helps ;)

Assuming it's a server control, you can use Request["ButtonName"]

To see if a specific button was clicked: if (Request["ButtonName"] != null)

How can I fix the form size in a C# Windows Forms application and not to let user change its size?

Check this:

// Define the border style of the form to a dialog box.
form1.FormBorderStyle = FormBorderStyle.FixedDialog;

// Set the MaximizeBox to false to remove the maximize box.
form1.MaximizeBox = false;

// Set the MinimizeBox to false to remove the minimize box.

// Display the form as a modal dialog box.
form1.ShowDialog();

How to declare an ArrayList with values?

Use:

List<String> x = new ArrayList<>(Arrays.asList("xyz", "abc"));

If you don't want to add new elements to the list later, you can also use (Arrays.asList returns a fixed-size list):

List<String> x = Arrays.asList("xyz", "abc");

Note: you can also use a static import if you like, then it looks like this:

import static java.util.Arrays.asList;

...

List<String> x = new ArrayList<>(asList("xyz", "abc"));

or

List<String> x = asList("xyz", "abc");

How to create module-wide variables in Python?

For this, you need to declare the variable as global. However, a global variable is also accessible from outside the module by using module_name.var_name. Add this as the first line of your module:

How do I get Month and Date of JavaScript in 2 digit format?

My solution:

function addLeadingChars(string, nrOfChars, leadingChar) {
    string = string + '';
    return Array(Math.max(0, (nrOfChars || 2) - string.length + 1)).join(leadingChar || '0') + string;
}

Usage:

var
    date = new Date(),
    month = addLeadingChars(date.getMonth() + 1),
    day = addLeadingChars(date.getDate());

Unable to launch the IIS Express Web server

I had the same problem, thanks to @Jacob for giving information about it.

The Reason is - wrong entry for your project in config file applicationhost located at

C:\Users\(yourusername)\Documents\IISExpress\config
  1. Close all Visual Studio solutions.
  2. Rename IISExpress folder to some IISExpress-Copy (instead of deleting you can have a copy of it)
  3. Now open VS again and build/debug the project, now you would see IISExpress folder created for you again with correct configuration.

It worked for me and hope it should work for you also.

Append an int to a std::string

The std::string::append() method expects its argument to be a NULL terminated string (char*).

There are several approaches for producing a string containg an int:

  • std::ostringstream

    #include <sstream>

    std::ostringstream s;
    s << "select logged from login where id = " << ClientID;
    std::string query(s.str());

  • std::to_string (C++11)

    std::string query("select logged from login where id = " +
                      std::to_string(ClientID));

  • boost::lexical_cast

    #include <boost/lexical_cast.hpp>

    std::string query("select logged from login where id = " +
                      boost::lexical_cast<std::string>(ClientID));
