How to fix Error: this class is not key value coding-compliant for the key tableView.'

Any chance that you changed the name of your table view from "tableView" to "myTableView" at some point?

Applying an ellipsis to multiline text

I came up with my own solution for this:

/*this JS code puts the ellipsis (...) at the end of multiline ellipsis elements
 *
 * to use the multiline ellipsis on an element give it the following CSS properties
 * line-height:xxx
 * height:xxx (must line-height * number of wanted lines)
 * overflow:hidden
 *
 * and have the class js_ellipsis
 * */

//do all ellipsis when jQuery loads
jQuery(document).ready(function($) {put_ellipsisses();});

//redo ellipsis when window resizes
var re_ellipsis_timeout;
jQuery( window ).resize(function() {
    //timeout mechanism prevents from chain calling the function on resize
    clearTimeout(re_ellipsis_timeout);
    re_ellipsis_timeout = setTimeout(function(){ console.log("re_ellipsis_timeout finishes"); put_ellipsisses(); }, 500);
});

//the main function
function put_ellipsisses(){
    jQuery(".js_ellipsis").each(function(){

        //remember initial text to be able to regrow when space increases
        var object_data=jQuery(this).data();
        if(typeof object_data.oldtext != "undefined"){
            jQuery(this).text(object_data.oldtext);
        }else{
            object_data.oldtext = jQuery(this).text();
            jQuery(this).data(object_data);
        }

        //truncate and ellipsis
        var clientHeight = this.clientHeight;
        var maxturns=100; var countturns=0;
        while (this.scrollHeight > clientHeight && countturns < maxturns) {
            countturns++;
            jQuery(this).text(function (index, text) {
                return text.replace(/\W*\s(\S)*$/, '...');
            });
        }
    });
}

How to get an IFrame to be responsive in iOS Safari?

The problem with all these solutions is that the height of the iframe never really changes.

This means you won't be able to center elements inside the iframe using Javascript, position:fixed;, or position:absolute; since the iframe itself never scrolls.

My solution detailed here is to wrap all the content of the iframe inside a div using this CSS:

#wrap {
    position: fixed;
    top: 0;
    right:0;
    bottom:0;
    left: 0;
    overflow-y: scroll;
    -webkit-overflow-scrolling: touch;
}

This way Safari believes the content has no height and lets you assign the height of the iframe properly. This also allows you to position elements in any way you wish.

You can see a quick and dirty demo here.

Date query with ISODate in mongodb doesn't seem to work

Wrap it with new Date():

{ "dt" : { "$lt" : new Date("2012-01-01T15:00:00.000Z") } }

placeholder for select tag

There is a Select2 plugin allowing to set a lot of cool stuff along with placeholder. It is a jQuery replacement for select boxes. Here is an official site https://select2.github.io/examples.html

The thing is - if you want to disable fancy search option, please use the following option set.

data-plugin-options='
{
    "placeholder": "Select status",
    "allowClear": true,
    "minimumResultsForSearch": -1
}

Especially I like the allowClear option.

Thank you.

Create an ISO date object in javascript

This worked for me:

_x000D_
_x000D_
var start = new Date("2020-10-15T00:00:00.000+0000");
 //or
start = new date("2020-10-15T00:00:00.000Z");

collection.find({
    start_date:{
        $gte: start
    }
})...etc
_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_ new Date(2020,9,15,0,0,0,0) may lead to wrong date: i mean non ISO format (remember javascript count months from 0 to 11 so it's 9 for october)

Formatting ISODate from Mongodb

MongoDB's ISODate() is just a helper function that wraps a JavaScript date object and makes it easier to work with ISO date strings.

You can still use all of the same methods as working with a normal JS Date, such as:

ISODate("2012-07-14T01:00:00+01:00").toLocaleTimeString()

// Note that getHours() and getMinutes() do not include leading 0s for single digit #s
ISODate("2012-07-14T01:00:00+01:00").getHours()
ISODate("2012-07-14T01:00:00+01:00").getMinutes()

Converting string to date in mongodb

In my case I have succeed with the following solution for converting field ClockInTime from ClockTime collection from string to Date type:

db.ClockTime.find().forEach(function(doc) {
    doc.ClockInTime=new Date(doc.ClockInTime);
    db.ClockTime.save(doc);
    })

return query based on date

if you want to get items anywhere on that date you need to compare two dates

You can create two dates off of the first one like this, to get the start of the day, and the end of the day.

var startDate = new Date(); // this is the starting date that looks like ISODate("2014-10-03T04:00:00.188Z")

startDate.setSeconds(0);
startDate.setHours(0);
startDate.setMinutes(0);

var dateMidnight = new Date(startDate);
dateMidnight.setHours(23);
dateMidnight.setMinutes(59);
dateMidnight.setSeconds(59);

### MONGO QUERY

var query = {
        inserted_at: {
                    $gt:morning,
                    $lt:dateScrapedMidnight
        }
};

//MORNING: Sun Oct 12 2014 00:00:00 GMT-0400 (EDT)
//MIDNIGHT: Sun Oct 12 2014 23:59:59 GMT-0400 (EDT)

Scanner only reads first word instead of line

Use input.nextLine(); instead of input.next();

Padding a table row

This is a very old post, but I thought I should post my solution of a similar problem I faced recently.

Answer : I solved this issue by displaying the tr element as a block element i.e. specifying a CSS of display:block for the tr element. You can see this in code sample below.

_x000D_
_x000D_
<style>_x000D_
  tr {_x000D_
    display: block;_x000D_
    padding-bottom: 20px;_x000D_
  }_x000D_
  table {_x000D_
    border: 1px solid red;_x000D_
  }_x000D_
</style>_x000D_
<table>_x000D_
  <tbody>_x000D_
    <tr>_x000D_
      <td>_x000D_

</table>_x000D_
<br>_x000D_
<br>This TEXT IS BELOW and OUTSIDE the TABLE element. NOTICE how the red table border is pushed down below the end of paragraph due to bottom padding being specified for the tr element. The key point here is that the tr element must be displayed as a block_x000D_

combining two string variables

IMO, froadie's simple concatenation is fine for a simple case like you presented. If you want to put together several strings, the string join method seems to be preferred:

the_text = ''.join(['the ', 'quick ', 'brown ', 'fox ', 'jumped ', 'over ', 'the ', 'lazy ', 'dog.'])

Edit: Note that join wants an iterable (e.g. a list) as its single argument.

How to get the current TimeStamp?

Since Qt 5.8, we now have QDateTime::currentSecsSinceEpoch() to deliver the seconds directly, a.k.a. as real Unix timestamp. So, no need to divide the result by 1000 to get seconds anymore.

How do I output an ISO 8601 formatted string in JavaScript?

I was able to get below output with very less code.

var ps = new Date('2010-04-02T14:12:07')  ;
ps = ps.toDateString() + " " + ps.getHours() + ":"+ ps.getMinutes() + " hrs";

Output:

Fri Apr 02 2010 19:42 hrs

Converting ISO 8601-compliant String to java.util.Date

The way that is blessed by Java 7 documentation:

DateFormat df1 = new SimpleDateFormat("yyyy-MM-dd'T'HH:mm:ss.SSSZ");
String string1 = "2001-07-04T12:08:56.235-0700";
Date result1 = df1.parse(string1);

DateFormat df2 = new SimpleDateFormat("yyyy-MM-dd'T'HH:mm:ss.SSSXXX");
String string2 = "2001-07-04T12:08:56.235-07:00";
Date result2 = df2.parse(string2);

Javascript: how to validate dates in format MM-DD-YYYY?

You can simplify it somewhat by changing the first two lines of the function to this:

var matches = this.match(/^([0-9]{2})\/([0-9]{2})\/([0-9]{4})$/);

Or, just change the parameter to the RegExp constructor to be

^([0-9]{2})\/([0-9]{2})\/([0-9]{4})$

Search for all occurrences of a string in a mysql database

MikeW presented an interesting solution, but as mentioned in comments, it's a SQL Server solution not a MySQL solution. Here is a MySQL solution:

use information_schema;
set @q = 'Boston';
set @t = 'my_db';

select CONCAT('use \'',@q,'\';') as q UNION
select CONCAT('select \'', tbl.`TABLE_NAME`,'\' as TableName, \'', col.`COLUMN_NAME`,'\' as Col, `',col.`COLUMN_NAME`,'` as value  from `' , tbl.`TABLE_NAME`,'` where `' ,
        col.`COLUMN_NAME` , '` like \'%' ,@q,  '%\' UNION') AS q
from `tables` tbl
inner join `columns` col on tbl.`TABLE_NAME` = col.`TABLE_NAME`and col.DATA_TYPE='varchar'
where tbl.TABLE_SCHEMA  =  @t  ;

Item frequency count in Python

freqs = {}
for word in words:
    freqs[word] = freqs.get(word, 0) + 1 # fetch and increment OR initialize

I think this results to the same as Triptych's solution, but without importing collections. Also a bit like Selinap's solution, but more readable imho. Almost identical to Thomas Weigel's solution, but without using Exceptions.

This could be slower than using defaultdict() from the collections library however. Since the value is fetched, incremented and then assigned again. Instead of just incremented. However using += might do just the same internally.

Apache: "AuthType not set!" 500 Error

The problem here can be formulated another way: how do I make a config that works both in apache 2.2 and 2.4?

Require all granted is only in 2.4, but Allow all ... stops working in 2.4, and we want to be able to rollout a config that works in both.

The only solution I found, which I am not sure is the proper one, is to use:

# backwards compatibility with apache 2.2
Order allow,deny
Allow from all

# forward compatibility with apache 2.4
Require all granted
Satisfy Any

This should resolve your problem, or at least did for me. Now the problem will probably be much harder to solve if you have more complex access rules...

See also this fairly similar question. The Debian wiki also has useful instructions for supporting both 2.2 and 2.4.

Convert datetime object to a String of date only in Python

String concatenation, str.join, can be used to build the string.

d = datetime.now()
'/'.join(str(x) for x in (d.month, d.day, d.year))

How to replace all special character into a string using C#

You can use a regular expresion to for example replace all non-alphanumeric characters with commas:

s = Regex.Replace(s, "[^0-9A-Za-z]+", ",");

Note: The + after the set will make it replace each group of non-alphanumeric characters with a comma. If you want to replace each character with a comma, just remove the +.

Check if an element contains a class in JavaScript?

Element.matches()

element.matches(selectorString)

According to MDN Web Docs:

The Element.matches() method returns true if the element would be selected by the specified selector string; otherwise, returns false.

Therefore, you can use Element.matches() to determine if an element contains a class.

_x000D_
_x000D_
const element = document.querySelector('#example');

console.log(element.matches('.foo')); // true

Compilation fails with "relocation R_X86_64_32 against `.rodata.str1.8' can not be used when making a shared object"

Do what the compiler tells you to do, i.e. recompile with -fPIC. To learn what does this flag do and why you need it in this case, see Code Generation Options of the GCC manual.

In brief, the term position independent code (PIC) refers to the generated machine code which is memory address agnostic, i.e. does not make any assumptions about where it was loaded into RAM. Only position independent code is supposed to be included into shared objects (SO) as they should have an ability to dynamically change their location in RAM.

Finally, you can read about it on Wikipedia too.

Hex transparency in colors

Here's a correct table of percentages to hex values. E.g. for 50% white you'd use #80FFFFFF.

  • 85% — D9
  • 80% — CC
  • 75% — BF

  • 65% — A6
  • 60% — 99
  • 55% — 8C
  • 50% — 80
  • 45% — 73
  • 40% — 66
  • 35% — 59
  • 30% — 4D

Changing the action of a form with JavaScript/jQuery

You can actually just use

$("#form").attr("target", "NewAction");

As far as I know, this will NOT fail silently.

If the page is opening in a new target, you may need to make sure the URL is unique each time because Webkit (chrome/safari) will cache the fact you have visited that URL and won't perform the post.

For example

$("form").attr("action", "/Pages/GeneratePreview?" + new Date().getMilliseconds());

C program to check little vs. big endian

The following will do.

unsigned int x = 1;
printf ("%d", (int) (((char *)&x)[0]));

And setting &x to char * will enable you to access the individual bytes of the integer, and the ordering of bytes will depend on the endianness of the system.

Bootstrap: add margin/padding space between columns

Simply add a div within col-md-6 that has the extra padding that you need. The col-md-6 is the 'backbone' to keep the column integrity, but you can add additional padding within it.

<div class="row">
    <div class="text-center col-md-6">
        <div class="classWithPad">Widget 1</div>
    </div>
    <div class="text-center col-md-6">
        <div class="classWithPad">Widget 2</div>
    </div>
</div>

CSS

.classWithPad { margin:10px; padding:10px; }

R: Comment out block of code

I have dealt with this at talkstats.com in posts 94, 101 & 103 found in the thread: Share Your Code. As others have said Rstudio may be a better way to go. I store these functions in my .Rprofile and actually use them a but to automatically block out lines of code quickly.

Not quite as nice as you were hoping for but may be an approach.

How to see the changes between two commits without commits in-between?

Let me introduce easy GUI/idiot proof approach that you can take in these situations.

  1. Clone another copy of your repo to new folder, for example myRepo_temp
  2. Checkout the commit/branch that you would like to compare with commit in your original repo (myRepo_original).
  3. Now you can use diff tools, (like Beyond Compare etc.) with these two folders (myRepo_temp and myRepo_original)

This is useful for example if you want partially reverse some changes as you can copy stuff from one to another folder.

Regex remove all special characters except numbers?

If you don't mind including the underscore as an allowed character, you could try simply:

result = subject.replace(/\W+/g, "");

If the underscore must be excluded also, then

result = subject.replace(/[^A-Z0-9]+/ig, "");

(Note the case insensitive flag)

How do I set Tomcat Manager Application User Name and Password for NetBeans?

When you're launching tomcat server from netbeans IDE you need to check in menu "tools->servers" on connection tab for tomcat server - there is catalina base directory. And you need to include something like:

 <role rolename="manager"/>
  <user username="admin" password="admin" roles="manager"/>

at file

\CATALINA_BASE\conf\tomcat-users.xml

or use username automatically generated by IDE with description already placed in this file or on connection tab

For Manager Apps : GUI access:

<role rolename="manager-gui"/>
<user username="tomcat" password="s3cret" roles="manager-gui"/>

Carriage return and Line feed... Are both required in C#?

It depends on where you're displaying the text. On the console or a textbox for example, \n will suffice. On a RichTextBox I think you need both.

Finish all previous activities

From developer.android.com:

public void finishAffinity ()

Added in API level 16

Finish this activity as well as all activities immediately below it in the current task that have the same affinity. This is typically used when an application can be launched on to another task (such as from an ACTION_VIEW of a content type it understands) and the user has used the up navigation to switch out of the current task and in to its own task. In this case, if the user has navigated down into any other activities of the second application, all of those should be removed from the original task as part of the task switch.

Note that this finish does not allow you to deliver results to the previous activity, and an exception will be thrown if you are trying to do so.

Then run the project on the server

You will have to stop the server before deploying another project because it will not be found by the server. Otherwise you will get a 404 error

Java 8 LocalDate Jackson format

I was never able to get this to work simple using annotations. To get it to work, I created a ContextResolver for ObjectMapper, then I added the JSR310Module (update: now it is JavaTimeModule instead), along with one more caveat, which was the need to set write-date-as-timestamp to false. See more at the documentation for the JSR310 module. Here's an example of what I used.

Dependency

<dependency>
    <groupId>com.fasterxml.jackson.datatype</groupId>
    <artifactId>jackson-datatype-jsr310</artifactId>
    <version>2.4.0</version>
</dependency>

Note: One problem I faced with this is that the jackson-annotation version pulled in by another dependency, used version 2.3.2, which cancelled out the 2.4 required by the jsr310. What happened was I got a NoClassDefFound for ObjectIdResolver, which is a 2.4 class. So I just needed to line up the included dependency versions

ContextResolver

import com.fasterxml.jackson.databind.ObjectMapper;
import com.fasterxml.jackson.databind.SerializationFeature;
import com.fasterxml.jackson.datatype.jsr310.JSR310Module;
import javax.ws.rs.ext.ContextResolver;
import javax.ws.rs.ext.Provider;

@Provider
public class ObjectMapperContextResolver implements ContextResolver<ObjectMapper> {
    private final ObjectMapper MAPPER;

    public ObjectMapperContextResolver() {
        MAPPER = new ObjectMapper();
        // Now you should use JavaTimeModule instead
        MAPPER.registerModule(new JSR310Module());
        MAPPER.configure(SerializationFeature.WRITE_DATES_AS_TIMESTAMPS, false);
    }

    @Override
    public ObjectMapper getContext(Class<?> type) {
        return MAPPER;
    }
}

Resource class

@Path("person")
public class LocalDateResource {

    @GET
    @Produces(MediaType.APPLICATION_JSON)
    public Response getPerson() {
        Person person = new Person();
        person.birthDate = LocalDate.now();
        return Response.ok(person).build();
    }

    @POST
    @Consumes(MediaType.APPLICATION_JSON)
    public Response createPerson(Person person) {
        return Response.ok(
                DateTimeFormatter.ISO_DATE.format(person.birthDate)).build();
    }

    public static class Person {
        public LocalDate birthDate;
    }
}

Test

curl -v http://localhost:8080/api/person
Result: {"birthDate":"2015-03-01"}

curl -v -POST -H "Content-Type:application/json" -d "{\"birthDate\":\"2015-03-01\"}" http://localhost:8080/api/person
Result: 2015-03-01

See also here for JAXB solution.

UPDATE

The JSR310Module is deprecated as of version 2.7 of Jackson. Instead, you should register the module JavaTimeModule. It is still the same dependency.

Change Bootstrap tooltip color

We are using bootstrap 3.0 on our website, but none of the above steps worked in updating the styling of the tooltip. But I did find a solution using jQueryUI styling instead

https://jqueryui.com/tooltip/#custom-style

CSS

  .ui-tooltip, .arrow:after {
    background: black;
    border: 2px solid white;
  }
  .ui-tooltip {
    padding: 10px 20px;
    color: white;
    border-radius: 20px;
    font: bold 14px "Helvetica Neue", Sans-Serif;
    text-transform: uppercase;
    box-shadow: 0 0 7px black;
  }

HTML

<div class="qu_help" data-toggle="tooltip" title="Some Random Title">
   <span class="glyphicon glyphicon-question-sign" aria-hidden="true"></span>
</div>

I'm adding this answer in case someone else is in a similar situation as I was.

Showing an image from an array of images - Javascript

This is a simple example and try to combine it with yours using some modifications. I prefer you set all the images in one array in order to make your code easier to read and shorter:

var imageArray = ["_images/image1.jpg","_images/image2.jpg","_images/image3.jpg",
  "_images/image4.jpg","_images/image5.jpg","_images/image6.jpg"];

var imageIndex = 0;

  imageIndex = (imageIndex + 1) % imageArray.length;
}

jQuery: Check if special characters exists in string

You could also use the whitelist method -

var str = $('#Search').val();
var regex = /[^\w\s]/gi;

if(regex.test(str) == true) {
    alert('Your search string contains illegal characters.');
}

The regex in this example is digits, word characters, underscores (\w) and whitespace (\s). The caret (^) indicates that we are to look for everything that is not in our regex, so look for things that are not word characters, underscores, digits and whitespace.

Simulating Key Press C#

Easy, short and no need window focus:

Also here a usefull list of Virtual Key Codes

        [DllImport("user32.dll")]
        public static extern IntPtr FindWindow(string lpClassName, string lpWindowName);

        [DllImport("user32.dll")]
        static extern bool PostMessage(IntPtr hWnd, UInt32 Msg, int wParam, int lParam);

        private void button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
        {
            const int WM_SYSKEYDOWN = 0x0104;
            const int VK_F5 = 0x74;

            IntPtr WindowToFind = FindWindow(null, "Google - Mozilla Firefox");

            PostMessage(WindowToFind, WM_SYSKEYDOWN, VK_F5, 0);
        }

Disable submit button on form submit

Do it onSubmit():

$('form#id').submit(function(){
    $(this).find(':input[type=submit]').prop('disabled', true);
});

What is happening is you're disabling the button altogether before it actually triggers the submit event.

You should probably also think about naming your elements with IDs or CLASSes, so you don't select all inputs of submit type on the page.

Demonstration: http://jsfiddle.net/userdude/2hgnZ/

(Note, I use preventDefault() and return false so the form doesn't actual submit in the example; leave this off in your use.)

Ruby: How to convert a string to boolean

Don't think too much:

bool_or_string.to_s == "true"

So,

"true".to_s == "true"   #true
"false".to_s == "true"  #false
true.to_s == "true"     #true
false.to_s == "true"    #false

You could also add ".downcase," if you are worried about capital letters.

How to Load an Assembly to AppDomain with all references recursively?

Once you pass the assembly instance back to the caller domain, the caller domain will try to load it! This is why you get the exception. This happens in your last line of code:

domain.Load(AssemblyName.GetAssemblyName(path));

Thus, whatever you want to do with the assembly, should be done in a proxy class - a class which inherit MarshalByRefObject.

Take in count that the caller domain and the new created domain should both have access to the proxy class assembly. If your issue is not too complicated, consider leaving the ApplicationBase folder unchanged, so it will be same as the caller domain folder (the new domain will only load Assemblies it needs).

In simple code:

public void DoStuffInOtherDomain()
{
    const string assemblyPath = @"[AsmPath]";
    var newDomain = AppDomain.CreateDomain("newDomain");
    var asmLoaderProxy = (ProxyDomain)newDomain.CreateInstanceAndUnwrap(Assembly.GetExecutingAssembly().FullName, typeof(ProxyDomain).FullName);

    asmLoaderProxy.GetAssembly(assemblyPath);
}

class ProxyDomain : MarshalByRefObject
{
    public void GetAssembly(string AssemblyPath)
    {
        try
        {
            Assembly.LoadFrom(AssemblyPath);
            //If you want to do anything further to that assembly, you need to do it here.
        }
        catch (Exception ex)
        {
            throw new InvalidOperationException(ex.Message, ex);
        }
    }
}

If you do need to load the assemblies from a folder which is different than you current app domain folder, create the new app domain with specific dlls search path folder.

For example, the app domain creation line from the above code should be replaced with:

var dllsSearchPath = @"[dlls search path for new app domain]";
AppDomain newDomain = AppDomain.CreateDomain("newDomain", new Evidence(), dllsSearchPath, "", true);

This way, all the dlls will automaically be resolved from dllsSearchPath.

ssh_exchange_identification: Connection closed by remote host under Git bash

For me, the issue was that there was a proxy set in /etc/ssh/ssh_config and it was down, solved the issue by whitelisting the remote git IP and removing the proxy line.

Hope this helps someone.

Can an html element have multiple ids?

No. From the XHTML 1.0 Spec

In XML, fragment identifiers are of type ID, and there can only be a single attribute of type ID per element. Therefore, in XHTML 1.0 the id attribute is defined to be of type ID. In order to ensure that XHTML 1.0 documents are well-structured XML documents, XHTML 1.0 documents MUST use the id attribute when defining fragment identifiers on the elements listed above. See the HTML Compatibility Guidelines for information on ensuring such anchors are backward compatible when serving XHTML documents as media type text/html.

iPhone and WireShark

I had to do something very similar to find out why my iPhone was bleeding cellular network data, eating 80% of my 500Mb allowance in a couple of days.

Unfortunately I had to packet sniff whilst on 3G/4G and couldn't rely on being on wireless. So if you need an "industrial" solution then this is how you sniff all traffic (not just http) on any network.

Basic recipe:

  1. Install VPN server
  2. Run packet sniffer on VPN server
  3. Connect iPhone to VPN server and perform operations
  4. Download .pcap from VPN server and use your favourite .pcap analyser on it.

Detailed'ish instructions:

  1. Get yourself a linux server, I used Fedora 20 64bit from Digirtal Ocean on a $5/month box
  2. Configure OpenVPN on it. OpenVPN has comprehensive instructions
  3. Ensure you configure the Routing all traffic through the VPN section
  4. Be aware the instructions for (3) are all iptables which has been superseded, at time of writing, by firewall-cmd. This website explains the firewall-cmd to use
  5. Check that you can connect your iPhone to the VPN. I did this by downloading the free OpenVPN software. I then set up a OpenVPN certificate. You can embed your ca, crt & key files by opening up and embedding the --- BEGIN CERTIFACTE --- ---- END CERTIFICATE --- in < ca > < /ca > < crt >< /crt>< key > < /key > blocks. Note that I had to do this in Mac with text editor, when I used notepad.exe on Win it didn't work. I then emailed this to my iphone and picked installed it.
  6. Check the iPhone connects to VPN and routes it's traffic through (google what's my IP should return the VPN server IP when you run it on iPhone)
  7. Now that you can connect go to your linux server & install wireshark (yum install wireshark)
  8. This installs tshark, which is a command line packet sniffer. Run this in the background with screen tshark -i tun0 -x -w capture.pcap -F pcap (assuming vpn device is tun0)
  9. Now when you want to capture traffic simply start the VPN on your machine
  10. When complete switch off the VPN
  11. Download the .pcap file from your server, and run analysis as you normally would. It's been decrypted on the server when it arrives so the traffic is viewable in plain text (obviously https still encrypted)

Note that the above implementation is not security focussed it's simply about getting a detailed packet capture of all of your iPhone's traffic on 3G/4G/Wireless networks

How do I create a slug in Django?

There is corner case with some utf-8 characters

Example:

>>> from django.template.defaultfilters import slugify
>>> slugify(u"test aescóln")
u'test-aescon' # there is no "l"

This can be solved with Unidecode

>>> from unidecode import unidecode
>>> from django.template.defaultfilters import slugify
>>> slugify(unidecode(u"test aescóln"))
u'test-aescoln'

Convert Map to JSON using Jackson

Using jackson, you can do it as follows:

    ObjectMapper mapper = new ObjectMapper();
    String clientFilterJson = "";
    try {
        clientFilterJson = mapper.writeValueAsString(filterSaveModel);
    } catch (IOException e) {
        e.printStackTrace();
    }

What is the behavior difference between return-path, reply-to and from?

for those who got here because the title of the question:

I use Reply-To: address with webforms. when someone fills out the form, the webpage sends an automatic email to the page's owner. the From: is the automatic mail sender's address, so the owner knows it is from the webform. but the Reply-To: address is the one filled in in the form by the user, so the owner can just hit reply to contact them.

How can I count occurrences with groupBy?

I think you're just looking for the overload which takes another Collector to specify what to do with each group... and then Collectors.counting() to do the counting:

import java.util.*;
import java.util.stream.*;

class Test {
    public static void main(String[] args) {
        List<String> list = new ArrayList<>();

        list.add("Hello");
        list.add("Hello");
        list.add("World");

        Map<String, Long> counted = list.stream()
            .collect(Collectors.groupingBy(Function.identity(), Collectors.counting()));

        System.out.println(counted);
    }
}

Result:

{Hello=2, World=1}

(There's also the possibility of using groupingByConcurrent for more efficiency. Something to bear in mind for your real code, if it would be safe in your context.)

Picking a random element from a set

Fast solution for Java using an ArrayList and a HashMap: [element -> index].

Motivation: I needed a set of items with RandomAccess properties, especially to pick a random item from the set (see pollRandom method). Random navigation in a binary tree is not accurate: trees are not perfectly balanced, which would not lead to a uniform distribution.

public class RandomSet<E> extends AbstractSet<E> {

    List<E> dta = new ArrayList<E>();
    Map<E, Integer> idx = new HashMap<E, Integer>();

    public RandomSet() {
    }

    public RandomSet(Collection<E> items) {
        for (E item : items) {
            idx.put(item, dta.size());
            dta.add(item);
        }
    }

    @Override
    public boolean add(E item) {
        if (idx.containsKey(item)) {
            return false;
        }
        idx.put(item, dta.size());
        dta.add(item);
        return true;
    }

    /**
     * Override element at position <code>id</code> with last element.
     * @param id
     */
    public E removeAt(int id) {
        if (id >= dta.size()) {
            return null;
        }
        E res = dta.get(id);
        idx.remove(res);
        E last = dta.remove(dta.size() - 1);
        // skip filling the hole if last is removed
        if (id < dta.size()) {
            idx.put(last, id);
            dta.set(id, last);
        }
        return res;
    }

    @Override
    public boolean remove(Object item) {
        @SuppressWarnings(value = "element-type-mismatch")
        Integer id = idx.get(item);
        if (id == null) {
            return false;
        }
        removeAt(id);
        return true;
    }

    public E get(int i) {
        return dta.get(i);
    }

    public E pollRandom(Random rnd) {
        if (dta.isEmpty()) {
            return null;
        }
        int id = rnd.nextInt(dta.size());
        return removeAt(id);
    }

    @Override
    public int size() {
        return dta.size();
    }

    @Override
    public Iterator<E> iterator() {
        return dta.iterator();
    }

Converting char* to float or double

You are missing an include : #include <stdlib.h>, so GCC creates an implicit declaration of atof and atod, leading to garbage values.

And the format specifier for double is %f, not %d (that is for integers).

#include <stdlib.h>
#include <stdio.h>

int main()
{
  char *test = "12.11";
  double temp = strtod(test,NULL);
  float ftemp = atof(test);
  printf("price: %f, %f",temp,ftemp);
  return 0;
}
/* Output */
price: 12.110000, 12.110000

How to disable Django's CSRF validation?

If you just need some views not to use CSRF, you can use @csrf_exempt:

from django.views.decorators.csrf import csrf_exempt

@csrf_exempt
def my_view(request):
    return HttpResponse('Hello world')

You can find more examples and other scenarios in the Django documentation:

Git Pull While Ignoring Local Changes?

this worked for me

git fetch --all
git reset --hard origin/master
git pull origin master

with the accepted answer I get conflict errors

Return different type of data from a method in java?

No. Java methods can only return one result (void, a primitive, or an object), and creating a struct-type class like this is exactly how you do it.

As a note, it is frequently possible to make classes like your ReturningValues immutable like this:

public class ReturningValues {
    public final String value;
    public final int index;

    public ReturningValues(String value, int index) {
        this.value = value;
        this.index = index;
    }
}

This has the advantage that a ReturningValues can be passed around, such as between threads, with no concerns about accidentally getting things out of sync.

How correctly produce JSON by RESTful web service?

You could use a package like org.json http://www.json.org/java/

Because you will need to use JSONObjects more often.

There you can easily create JSONObjects and put some values in it:

 JSONObject json = new JSONObject();
 JSONArray array=new JSONArray();
    array.put("1");
    array.put("2");
    json.put("friends", array);

    System.out.println(json.toString(2));

    {"friends": [
      "1",
      "2"
    ]}

edit This has the advantage that you can build your responses in different layers and return them as an object

COUNT(*) vs. COUNT(1) vs. COUNT(pk): which is better?

I feel the performance characteristics change from one DBMS to another. It's all on how they choose to implement it. Since I have worked extensively on Oracle, I'll tell from that perspective.

COUNT(*) - Fetches entire row into result set before passing on to the count function, count function will aggregate 1 if the row is not null

COUNT(1) - Will not fetch any row, instead count is called with a constant value of 1 for each row in the table when the WHERE matches.

COUNT(PK) - The PK in Oracle is indexed. This means Oracle has to read only the index. Normally one row in the index B+ tree is many times smaller than the actual row. So considering the disk IOPS rate, Oracle can fetch many times more rows from Index with a single block transfer as compared to entire row. This leads to higher throughput of the query.

From this you can see the first count is the slowest and the last count is the fastest in Oracle.

How to get Maven project version to the bash command line

I noticed some spurious Downloaded: lines coming in the output that were breaking my original assignment. Here's the filter I've settled on; hope it helps!

version=$(mvn org.apache.maven.plugins:maven-help-plugin:2.1.1:evaluate -Dexpression=project.version | egrep -v '^\[|Downloading:' | tr -d ' \n')

EDIT

Not 100% sure why, but when running this through a post-build script in Jenkins, the output was coming out as [INFO]version, e.g. [INFO]0.3.2.

I dumped the output to a file and ran it through my first filter directly from BASH, it works fine.., so again, unsure what's going on in Jenkins land.

To get it 100% in Jenkins, I've added a follow-up sed filter; here's my latest

version=$(mvn org.apache.maven.plugins:maven-help-plugin:2.1.1:evaluate -Dexpression=project.version | egrep -v '^\[|Downloading:' | tr -d ' \n' | sed -E 's/\[.*\]//g')

EDIT

One last note here.. I found out tr was still resulting in things like /r/n0.3.2 (again only when running via Jenkins). Switched to awk and the problem has gone away! My final working result

mvn org.apache.maven.plugins:maven-help-plugin:2.1.1:evaluate -Dexpression=project.version \
| egrep -v '^\[|Downloading:' | sed 's/[^0-9\.]//g' | awk 1 ORS=''

Is it possible to save HTML page as PDF using JavaScript or jquery?

This might be a late answer but this is the best around: https://github.com/eKoopmans/html2pdf

Pure javascript implementation. Allows you to specify just a single element by ID and convert it.

Best way to test for a variable's existence in PHP; isset() is clearly broken

I'm going to add a quick two cents to this. One reason this issue is confusing is because this scenario seems to return the same result with error reporting not on full:

$a = null;
var_dump($a); // NULL
var_dump($b); // NULL

You could assume from this result that the difference between $a = null and not defining $b at all is nothing.

Crank error reporting up:

NULL

Notice: Undefined variable: b in xxx on line n
NULL

Note: it threw an undefined variable error, but the output value of var_dump is still NULL.

PHP obviously does have an internal ability to distinguish between a null variable and an undefined variable. It seems to me that there should be a built in function to check for this.

I think the accepted answer is good for the most part, but if I was going to implement it I would write a wrapper for it. As previously mentioned in this answer, I have to agree that I haven't actually encountered a situation where this has been a problem. I seem to almost always end up in a scenario where my variables are either set and defined, or they aren't (undefined, unset, null, blank, etc). Not to say that a situation like this won't occur in future, but as it seems to be quite a unique issue I'm not surprised that the PHP devs haven't bothered to put this in.

As of 15/06/2019

what I did is include all four possibilities to open url.

i.e, with http / https and 2 with www in prefix and 2 without www

and by using this my app launches automatically now without asking me to choose a browser and other option.

Is incorrect because monsters isn't a pointer to a dynamically allocated array, it is an array of pointers. As a class member it will be destroyed automatically when the class instance is destroyed.

Your other implementation is the correct one as the pointers in the array do point to dynamically allocated Monster objects.

Note that with your current memory allocation strategy you probably want to declare your own copy constructor and copy-assignment operator so that unintentional copying doesn't cause double deletes. (If you you want to prevent copying you could declare them as private and not actually implement them.)

How to store an output of shell script to a variable in Unix?

Two simple examples to capture output the pwd command:

$ b=$(pwd)
$ echo $b
/home/user1

or

$ a=`pwd`
$ echo $a
/home/user1

The first way is preferred. Note that there can't be any spaces after the = for this to work.

Example using a short script:

#!/bin/bash

echo "hi there"

then:

$ ./so.sh
hi there
$ a=$(so.sh)
$ echo $a
hi there

In general a more flexible approach would be to return an exit value from the command and use it for further processing, though sometimes we just may want to capture the simple output from a command.

Segmentation fault on large array sizes

You're probably just getting a stack overflow here. The array is too big to fit in your program's stack address space.

If you allocate the array on the heap you should be fine, assuming your machine has enough memory.

int* array = new int[1000000];

But remember that this will require you to delete[] the array. A better solution would be to use std::vector<int> and resize it to 1000000 elements.

Fit image to table cell [Pure HTML]

if you want to do it with pure HTML solution ,you can delete the border in the table if you want...or you can add align="center" attribute to your img tag like this:

<img align="center" width="100%" height="100%" src="http://dummyimage.com/68x68/000/fff" />

see the fiddle : http://jsfiddle.net/Lk2Rh/27/

but still it better to handling this with CSS, i suggest you that.

  • I hope this help.

Having both a Created and Last Updated timestamp columns in MySQL 4.0

How do I get the Git commit count?

A simple way is:

 git log --oneline | wc -l

oneline ensures that.

Find the min/max element of an array in JavaScript

linear, almost-purely-functional-approach

var min=[0, 29, 25].map((function(max) {max=-Infinity; return function(e) {return max=Math.max(max, e);}})())[0]

More examples:

Finding out min value

function getMin(arr) {
    return (ar || [0, 29, 25]).
        map((function(max) {max=-Infinity; return function(e) {return max=Math.max(max, e);}})())[0];
}

or using Array.map method with variable closuring

function getMin(arrObjs) {
    return (arrObjs || [{val: 0}, {val: 29}, {val: 25}]).
        map((function(max) {max=-Infinity; return function(e) {return max=(max.val>e.val?max:e);}})())[0];
}

Finding out max value

function getMax(arr) {
    return (ar || [0, 29, 25]).
        map((function(v) {v=Infinity; return function(e) {return v=Math.min(v, e);}})())[0];
}

for array of objects

function getMax(arrObjs) {
    return (arrObjs || [{val: 0}, {val: 29}, {val: 25}]).
        map((function(v) {v=-Infinity; return function(e) {return v=(v.val<e.val?v:e);}})())[0];
}

How to convert Rows to Columns in Oracle?

If you are using Oracle 10g, you can use the DECODE function to pivot the rows into columns:

CREATE TABLE doc_tab (
  loan_number VARCHAR2(20),
  document_type VARCHAR2(20),
  document_id VARCHAR2(20)
);

INSERT INTO doc_tab VALUES('992452533663', 'Voters ID', 'XPD0355636');
INSERT INTO doc_tab VALUES('992452533663', 'Pan card', 'CHXPS5522D');
INSERT INTO doc_tab VALUES('992452533663', 'Drivers licence', 'DL-0420110141769');

COMMIT;

SELECT
    loan_number,
    MAX(DECODE(document_type, 'Voters ID', document_id)) AS voters_id,
    MAX(DECODE(document_type, 'Pan card', document_id)) AS pan_card,
    MAX(DECODE(document_type, 'Drivers licence', document_id)) AS drivers_licence
  FROM
    doc_tab
GROUP BY loan_number
ORDER BY loan_number;

Output:

LOAN_NUMBER   VOTERS_ID            PAN_CARD             DRIVERS_LICENCE
------------- -------------------- -------------------- --------------------
992452533663  XPD0355636           CHXPS5522D           DL-0420110141769

You can achieve the same using Oracle PIVOT clause, introduced in 11g:

SELECT *
  FROM doc_tab
PIVOT (
  MAX(document_id) FOR document_type IN ('Voters ID','Pan card','Drivers licence')
);

SQLFiddle example with both solutions: SQLFiddle example

Accessing Objects in JSON Array (JavaScript)

You can loop the array with a for loop and the object properties with for-in loops.

for (var i=0; i<result.length; i++)
    for (var name in result[i]) {
        console.log("Item name: "+name);
        console.log("Source: "+result[i][name].sourceUuid);
        console.log("Target: "+result[i][name].targetUuid);
    }

Where does Git store files?

I'm on Windows and found my location by right clicking the Git Bash program in my Start menu and selecting Properties. The Shortcut tab shows the "Start in:" value. For me, it was %HOMEDRIVE%%HOMEPATH%, so I opened a CMD prompt and typed echo %HOMEDRIVE%%HOMEPATH% to see the actual location.

When & why to use delegates?

Delegates Overview

Delegates have the following properties:

  • Delegates are similar to C++ function pointers, but are type safe.
  • Delegates allow methods to be passed as parameters.
  • Delegates can be used to define callback methods.
  • Delegates can be chained together; for example, multiple methods can be called on a single event.
  • Methods don't need to match the delegate signature exactly. For more information, see Covariance and Contra variance.
  • C# version 2.0 introduces the concept of Anonymous Methods, which permit code blocks to be passed as parameters in place of a separately defined method.

How do I set browser width and height in Selenium WebDriver?

Here is how I do it in Python with Selenium 2.48.0:

What is the difference between URI, URL and URN?

Below I sum up Prateek Joshi's awesome explanation.

The theory:

  • URI (uniform resource identifier) identifies a resource (text document, image file, etc)
  • URL (uniform resource locator) is a subset of the URIs that include a network location
  • URN (uniform resource name) is a subset of URIs that include a name within a given space, but no location

That is:

And for an example:

How can I make a list of lists in R?

As other answers pointed out in a more complicated way already, you did already create a list of lists! It's just the odd output of R that confuses (everybody?). Try this:

> str(list_all)
List of 2
 $ :List of 2
  ..$ : num 1
  ..$ : num 2
 $ :List of 2
  ..$ : chr "a"
  ..$ : chr "b"

And the most simple construction would be this:

> str(list(list(1, 2), list("a", "b")))
List of 2
 $ :List of 2
  ..$ : num 1
  ..$ : num 2
 $ :List of 2
  ..$ : chr "a"
  ..$ : chr "b"

Git status shows files as changed even though contents are the same

I recently moved my local repo from one Windows x64 system to another. The first time I use it half my files appear to be changed. Thanks to Jacek Szybisz for sending me to Configuring Git to handle line endings where I found the following one-liner that removed all the no-change files from Gitkraken's change queue:

git config --global core.autocrlf true

Parsing date string in Go

This is rather late to the party, and not really saying anything that hasn't been already said in one form or another, mostly through links above, but I wanted to give a TL;DR recap to those with less attention span:

The date and time of the go format string is very important. It's how Go knows which field is which. They are generally 1-9 left to right as follows:

  • January / Jan / january / jan / 01 / _1 (etc) are for month
  • 02 / _2 are for day of month
  • 15 / 03 / _3 / PM / P / pm /p are for hour & meridian (3pm)
  • 04 / _4 are for minutes
  • 05 / _5 are for seconds
  • 2006 / 06 are for year
  • -0700 / 07:00 / MST are for timezone
  • .999999999 / .000000000 etc are for partial seconds (I think the distinction is if trailing zeros are removed)
  • Mon / Monday are day of the week (which 01-02-2006 actually was),

So, Don't write "01-05-15" as your date format, unless you want "Month-Second-Hour"

(... again, this was basically a summary of above.)

What is the fastest way to create a checksum for large files in C#

The problem here is that SHA256Managed reads 4096 bytes at a time (inherit from FileStream and override Read(byte[], int, int) to see how much it reads from the filestream), which is too small a buffer for disk IO.

To speed things up (2 minutes for hashing 2 Gb file on my machine with SHA256, 1 minute for MD5) wrap FileStream in BufferedStream and set reasonably-sized buffer size (I tried with ~1 Mb buffer):

// Not sure if BufferedStream should be wrapped in using block
using(var stream = new BufferedStream(File.OpenRead(filePath), 1200000))
{
    // The rest remains the same
}

Printing 1 to 1000 without loop or conditionals

I hate to break it, but recursion and looping are essentially the same thing at the machine level.

The difference is the use of a JMP/JCC versus a CALL instruction. Both of which have roughly the same cycle times and flush the instruction pipeline.

My favorite trick for recursion was to hand-code a PUSH of a return address and use JMP to a function. The function then behaves normally, and returns at the end, but to somewhere else. This is really useful for parsing faster because it reduces instruction pipeline flushes.

The Original Poster was probably going for either a complete unroll, which the template guys worked out; or page memory into the terminal, if you know exactly where the terminal text is stored. The latter requires alot of insight and is risky, but takes almost no computational power and the code is free of nastiness like 1000 printfs in succession.

Run a JAR file from the command line and specify classpath

You can do these in unix shell:

java -cp MyJar.jar:lib/* com.somepackage.subpackage.Main

You can do these in windows powershell:

java -cp "MyJar.jar;lib\*" com.somepackage.subpackage.Main

Swift: Determine iOS Screen size

In Swift 3.0

let screenSize = UIScreen.main.bounds
let screenWidth = screenSize.width
let screenHeight = screenSize.height

In older swift: Do something like this:

let screenSize: CGRect = UIScreen.mainScreen().bounds

then you can access the width and height like this:

let screenWidth = screenSize.width
let screenHeight = screenSize.height

if you want 75% of your screen's width you can go:

let screenWidth = screenSize.width * 0.75

Swift 4.0

// Screen width.
public var screenWidth: CGFloat {
    return UIScreen.main.bounds.width
}

// Screen height.
public var screenHeight: CGFloat {
    return UIScreen.main.bounds.height
}

In Swift 5.0

let screenSize: CGRect = UIScreen.main.bounds

Any way to replace characters on Swift String?

Xcode 11 • Swift 5.1

The mutating method of StringProtocol replacingOccurrences can be implemented as follow:

extension RangeReplaceableCollection where Self: StringProtocol {
    mutating func replaceOccurrences<Target: StringProtocol, Replacement: StringProtocol>(of target: Target, with replacement: Replacement, options: String.CompareOptions = [], range searchRange: Range<String.Index>? = nil) {
        self = .init(replacingOccurrences(of: target, with: replacement, options: options, range: searchRange))
    }
}

var name = "This is my string"
name.replaceOccurrences(of: " ", with: "+")
print(name) // "This+is+my+string\n"

Getting an element from a Set

Foo obj = list.get(0);

Confusing "duplicate identifier" Typescript error message

I had this error, along with others, after I changed my tsconfig.json to target:"es2015", and module:"es2015".

The base (AngularJS2 quickstart) used /// <reference path="../../typings/index.d.ts" /> in the main.ts file. To solve this, I had to remove that line.

The difference in months between dates in MySQL

PERIOD_DIFF calculates months between two dates.

For example, to calculate the difference between now() and a time column in your_table:

select period_diff(date_format(now(), '%Y%m'), date_format(time, '%Y%m')) as months from your_table;

Pass connection string to code-first DbContext

If you are constructing the connection string within the app then you would use your command of connString. If you are using a connection string in the web config. Then you use the "name" of that string.

Accessing @attribute from SimpleXML

Unfortunately I have a unique build (stuck with Gentoo for the moment) of PHP 5.5, and what I found was that

 $xml->tagName['attribute']

was the only solution that worked. I tried all of Bora's methods above, including the 'Right & Quick' format, and they all failed.

The fact that this is the easiest format is a plus, but didn't enjoy thinking I was insane trying all of the formats others were saying worked.

Njoy for what its worth (did I mention unique build?).

Converting between java.time.LocalDateTime and java.util.Date

If you are on android and using threetenbp you can use DateTimeUtils instead.

ex:

Date date = DateTimeUtils.toDate(localDateTime.atZone(ZoneId.systemDefault()).toInstant());

you can't use Date.from since it's only supported on api 26+

find: missing argument to -exec

Try putting a space before each \;

Works:

find . -name "*.log" -exec echo {} \;

Doesn't Work:

find . -name "*.log" -exec echo {}\;

add scroll bar to table body

These solutions often have issues with the header columns aligning with the body columns, and may not work properly when resizing. I know you didn't want to use an additional library, but if you happen to be using jQuery, this one is really small. It supports fixed header, footer, column spanning (colspan), horizontal scrolling, resizing, and an optional number of rows to display before scrolling starts.

jQuery.scrollTableBody (GitHub)

As long as you have a table with proper <thead>, <tbody>, and (optional) <tfoot>, all you need to do is this:

$('table').scrollTableBody();

Set Focus on EditText

new OnEditorActionListener(){
   @Override
   public boolean onEditorAction(TextView v, int actionId, KeyEvent event) {
      editText.requestFocus();
      //used ******* return true ******
      return **true**;
   }
}

In javascript, how do you search an array for a substring match

The simplest way to get the substrings array from the given array is to use filter and includes:

myArray.filter(element => element.includes("substring"));

The above one will return an array of substrings.

myArray.find(element => element.includes("substring"));

The above one will return the first result element from the array.

myArray.findIndex(element => element.includes("substring"));

The above one will return the index of the first result element from the array.

What is a NullPointerException, and how do I fix it?

In Java, everything (excluding primitive types) is in the form of a class.

If you want to use any object then you have two phases:

  1. Declare
  2. Initialization

Example:

  • Declaration: Object object;
  • Initialization: object = new Object();

Same for the array concept:

  • Declaration: Item item[] = new Item[5];
  • Initialization: item[0] = new Item();

If you are not giving the initialization section then the NullPointerException arise.

Finding the average of a list

A statistics module has been added to python 3.4. It has a function to calculate the average called mean. An example with the list you provided would be:

from statistics import mean
l = [15, 18, 2, 36, 12, 78, 5, 6, 9]
mean(l)

How to reference a method in javadoc?

The general format, from the @link section of the javadoc documentation, is:

{@link package.class#member label}

Examples

Method in the same class:

/** See also {@link #myMethod(String)}. */
void foo() { ... }

Method in a different class, either in the same package or imported:

/** See also {@link MyOtherClass#myMethod(String)}. */
void foo() { ... }

Method in a different package and not imported:

/** See also {@link com.mypackage.YetAnotherClass#myMethod(String)}. */
void foo() { ... }

Label linked to method, in plain text rather than code font:

/** See also this {@linkplain #myMethod(String) implementation}. */
void foo() { ... }

A chain of method calls, as in your question. We have to specify labels for the links to methods outside this class, or we get getFoo().Foo.getBar().Bar.getBaz(). But these labels can be fragile during refactoring -- see "Labels" below.

/**
 * A convenience method, equivalent to
 * {@link #getFoo()}.{@link Foo#getBar() getBar()}.{@link Bar#getBaz() getBaz()}.
 * @return baz
 */
public Baz fooBarBaz()

Labels

Automated refactoring may not affect labels. This includes renaming the method, class or package; and changing the method signature.

Therefore, provide a label only if you want different text than the default.

For example, you might link from human language to code:

/** You can also {@linkplain #getFoo() get the current foo}. */
void setFoo( Foo foo ) { ... }

Or you might link from a code sample with text different than the default, as shown above under "A chain of method calls." However, this can be fragile while APIs are evolving.

Type erasure and #member

If the method signature includes parameterized types, use the erasure of those types in the javadoc @link. For example:

int bar( Collection<Integer> receiver ) { ... }

/** See also {@link #bar(Collection)}. */
void foo() { ... }

How to convert a string to number in TypeScript?

Easiest way is to use +strVal or Number(strVal)

Examples:

let strVal1 = "123.5"
let strVal2 = "One"
let val1a = +strVal1
let val1b = Number(strVal1)
let val1c = parseFloat(strVal1)
let val1d = parseInt(strVal1)
let val1e = +strVal1 - parseInt(strVal1)
let val2a = +strVal2

console.log("val1a->", val1a) // 123.5
console.log("val1b->", val1b) // 123.5
console.log("val1c->", val1c) // 123.5
console.log("val1d->", val1d) // 123
console.log("val1e->", val1e) // 0.5
console.log("val2a->", val2a) // NaN

How to read lines of a file in Ruby

I'm partial to the following approach for files that have headers:

File.open(file, "r") do |fh|
    header = fh.readline
    # Process the header
    while(line = fh.gets) != nil
        #do stuff
    end
end

This allows you to process a header line (or lines) differently than the content lines.

Accessing an array out of bounds gives no error, why?

C or C++ will not check the bounds of an array access.

You are allocating the array on the stack. Indexing the array via array[3] is equivalent to *(array + 3), where array is a pointer to &array[0]. This will result in undefined behavior.

One way to catch this sometimes in C is to use a static checker, such as splint. If you run:

splint +bounds array.c

on,

int main(void)
{
    int array[1];

    array[1] = 1;

    return 0;
}

then you will get the warning:

array.c: (in function main) array.c:5:9: Likely out-of-bounds store: array[1] Unable to resolve constraint: requires 0 >= 1 needed to satisfy precondition: requires maxSet(array @ array.c:5:9) >= 1 A memory write may write to an address beyond the allocated buffer.

What are the use cases for selecting CHAR over VARCHAR in SQL?

It's the classic space versus performance tradeoff.

In MS SQL 2005, Varchar (or NVarchar for lanuagues requiring two bytes per character ie Chinese) are variable length. If you add to the row after it has been written to the hard disk it will locate the data in a non-contigious location to the original row and lead to fragmentation of your data files. This will affect performance.

So, if space is not an issue then Char are better for performance but if you want to keep the database size down then varchars are better.

MongoDB: Server has startup warnings ''Access control is not enabled for the database''

Mongodb v3.4

You need to do the following to create a secure database:

Make sure the user starting the process has permissions and that the directories exist (/data/db in this case).

1) Start MongoDB without access control.

mongod --port 27017 --dbpath /data/db

2) Connect to the instance.

mongo --port 27017

3) Create the user administrator (in the admin authentication database).

use admin
db.createUser(
  {
    user: "myUserAdmin",
    pwd: "abc123",
    roles: [ { role: "userAdminAnyDatabase", db: "admin" } ]
  }
)

4) Re-start the MongoDB instance with access control.

mongod --auth --port 27017 --dbpath /data/db

5) Connect and authenticate as the user administrator.

mongo --port 27017 -u "myUserAdmin" -p "abc123" --authenticationDatabase "admin"

6) Create additional users as needed for your deployment (e.g. in the test authentication database).

use test
db.createUser(
  {
    user: "myTester",
    pwd: "xyz123",
    roles: [ { role: "readWrite", db: "test" },
             { role: "read", db: "reporting" } ]
  }
)

7) Connect and authenticate as myTester.

mongo --port 27017 -u "myTester" -p "xyz123" --authenticationDatabase "test"

I basically just explained the short version of the official docs here: https://docs.mongodb.com/master/tutorial/enable-authentication/

Open a new tab in the background?

UPDATE: By version 41 of Google Chrome, initMouseEvent seemed to have a changed behavior.

this can be done by simulating ctrl + click (or any other key/event combinations that open a background tab) on a dynamically generated a element with its href attribute set to the desired url

In action: fiddle

function openNewBackgroundTab(){
    var a = document.createElement("a");
    a.href = "http://www.google.com/";
    var evt = document.createEvent("MouseEvents");
    //the tenth parameter of initMouseEvent sets ctrl key
    evt.initMouseEvent("click", true, true, window, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0,
                                true, false, false, false, 0, null);
    a.dispatchEvent(evt);
}

How do I get into a non-password protected Java keystore or change the password?

which means that cacerts keystore isn't password protected

That's a false assumption. If you read more carefully, you'll find that the listing was provided without verifying the integrity of the keystore because you didn't provide the password. The listing doesn't require a password, but your keystore definitely has a password, as indicated by:

In order to verify its integrity, you must provide your keystore password.

Java's default cacerts password is "changeit", unless you're on a Mac, where it's "changeme" up to a certain point. Apparently as of Mountain Lion (based on comments and another answer here), the password for Mac is now also "changeit", probably because Oracle is now handling distribution for the Mac JVM as well.

Angular - POST uploaded file

Look at my code, but be aware. I use async/await, because latest Chrome beta can read any es6 code, which gets by TypeScript with compilation. So, you must replace asyns/await by .then().

Input change handler:

/**
 * @param fileInput
 */
public psdTemplateSelectionHandler (fileInput: any){
    let FileList: FileList = fileInput.target.files;

    for (let i = 0, length = FileList.length; i < length; i++) {
        this.psdTemplates.push(FileList.item(i));
    }

    this.progressBarVisibility = true;
}

Submit handler:

public async psdTemplateUploadHandler (): Promise<any> {
    let result: any;

    if (!this.psdTemplates.length) {
        return;
    }

    this.isSubmitted = true;

    this.fileUploadService.getObserver()
        .subscribe(progress => {
            this.uploadProgress = progress;
        });

    try {
        result = await this.fileUploadService.upload(this.uploadRoute, this.psdTemplates);
    } catch (error) {
        document.write(error)
    }

    if (!result['images']) {
        return;
    }

    this.saveUploadedTemplatesData(result['images']);
    this.redirectService.redirect(this.redirectRoute);
}

FileUploadService. That service also stored uploading progress in progress$ property, and in other places, you can subscribe on it and get new value every 500ms.

Field 'id' doesn't have a default value?

There are 2 solutions mentioned below:

Solution 1

MySQL is most likely in STRICT SQL mode. Try to execute SQL query SET GLOBAL sql_mode='' or edit your my.cnf / my.ini to make sure you aren't setting STRICT_ALL_TABLES and/or STRICT_TRANS_TABLES.

Solution 2

If Solution-1 is not working then try Solution-2 as given in below steps:

  1. Run MySQL Administrator tool as Administrator.
  2. Then go to Startup Variable.
  3. Then go to the Advance tab.
  4. find SQL Mode and remove the STRICT_ALL_TABLES and/or STRICT_TRANS_TABLES and then Click on Apply Changes.
  5. Restart MySQL Server.
  6. Done.

Note: I have tested these solutions in MySQL Server 5.7

Submit form without reloading page

I did it a different way to what I was wanting to do...gave me the result I needed. I chose not to submit the form, rather just get the value of the text field and use it in the javascript and then reset the text field. Sorry if I bothered anyone with this question.

Basically just did this:

    var search = document.getElementById('search').value;
    document.getElementById('search').value = "";

Changing factor levels with dplyr mutate

I'm not quite sure I understand your question properly, but if you want to change the factor levels of cyl with mutate() you could do:

df <- mtcars %>% mutate(cyl = factor(cyl, levels = c(4, 6, 8)))

You would get:

#> str(df$cyl)
# Factor w/ 3 levels "4","6","8": 2 2 1 2 3 2 3 1 1 2 ...

svn : how to create a branch from certain revision of trunk

.append(), prepend(), .after() and .before()

Imagine the DOM (HTML page) as a tree right. The HTML elements are the nodes of this tree.

The append() adds a new node to the child of the node you called it on.

Example:$("#mydiv").append("<p>Hello there</p>")

creates a child node <p> to <div>

The after() adds a new node as a sibling or at the same level or child to the parent of the node you called it on.

Hope this helps.

How do I properly escape quotes inside HTML attributes?

Per HTML syntax, and even HTML5, the following are all valid options:

<option value="&quot;asd">test</option>
<option value="&#34;asd">test</option>
<option value='"asd'>test</option>
<option value='&quot;asd'>test</option>
<option value='&#34;asd'>test</option>
<option value=&quot;asd>test</option>
<option value=&#34;asd>test</option>

Note that if you are using XML syntax the quotes (single or double) are required.

Here's a jsfiddle showing all of the above working.

Can I append an array to 'formdata' in javascript?

Writing as

}

you can receive just as normal array post/get by php.

Why doesn't JavaScript support multithreading?

JavaScript does not support multi-threading because the JavaScript interpreter in the browser is a single thread (AFAIK). Even Google Chrome will not let a single web page’s JavaScript run concurrently because this would cause massive concurrency issues in existing web pages. All Chrome does is separate multiple components (different tabs, plug-ins, etcetera) into separate processes, but I can’t imagine a single page having more than one JavaScript thread.

You can however use, as was suggested, setTimeout to allow some sort of scheduling and “fake” concurrency. This causes the browser to regain control of the rendering thread, and start the JavaScript code supplied to setTimeout after the given number of milliseconds. This is very useful if you want to allow the viewport (what you see) to refresh while performing operations on it. Just looping through e.g. coordinates and updating an element accordingly will just let you see the start and end positions, and nothing in between.

We use an abstraction library in JavaScript that allows us to create processes and threads which are all managed by the same JavaScript interpreter. This allows us to run actions in the following manner:

  • Process A, Thread 1
  • Process A, Thread 2
  • Process B, Thread 1
  • Process A, Thread 3
  • Process A, Thread 4
  • Process B, Thread 2
  • Pause Process A
  • Process B, Thread 3
  • Process B, Thread 4
  • Process B, Thread 5
  • Start Process A
  • Process A, Thread 5

This allows some form of scheduling and fakes parallelism, starting and stopping of threads, etcetera, but it will not be true multi-threading. I don’t think it will ever be implemented in the language itself, since true multi-threading is only useful if the browser can run a single page multi-threaded (or even more than one core), and the difficulties there are way larger than the extra possibilities.

Create a directly-executable cross-platform GUI app using Python

There's also PyGTK, which is basically a Python wrapper for the Gnome Toolkit. I've found it easier to wrap my mind around than Tkinter, coming from pretty much no knowledge of GUI programming previously. It works pretty well and has some good tutorials. Unfortunately there isn't an installer for Python 2.6 for Windows yet, and may not be for a while.

How to select the first row for each group in MySQL?

When I write

SELECT AnotherColumn
FROM Table
GROUP BY SomeColumn
;

It works. IIRC in other RDBMS such statement is impossible, because a column that doesn't belongs to the grouping key is being referenced without any sort of aggregation.

This "quirk" behaves very closely to what I want. So I used it to get the result I wanted:

SELECT * FROM
(
 SELECT * FROM `table`
 ORDER BY AnotherColumn
) t1
GROUP BY SomeColumn
;

Git Cherry-pick vs Merge Workflow

Rebase and Cherry-pick is the only way you can keep clean commit history. Avoid using merge and avoid creating merge conflict. If you are using gerrit set one project to Merge if necessary and one project to cherry-pick mode and try yourself.

Vba macro to copy row from table if value in table meets condition

Selects are slow and unnescsaary. The following code will be far faster:

Dim ws2 As Worksheet: Set ws2 = ThisWorkbook.Sheets("Sheet2")

For i = 2 To ws1.Range("B65536").End(xlUp).Row
    If ws1.Cells(i, 2) = "Your Critera" Then ws1.Rows(i).Copy ws2.Rows(ws2.Cells(ws2.Rows.Count, 2).End(xlUp).Row + 1)
Next i

How to count the number of letters in a string without the spaces?

OK, if that's what you want, here's what I would do to fix your existing code:

from collections import Counter

def count_letters(words):
    counter = Counter()
    for word in words.split():
        counter.update(word)
    return sum(counter.itervalues())

words = "The grey old fox is an idiot"
print count_letters(words)  # 22

If you don't want to count certain non-whitespace characters, then you'll need to remove them -- inside the for loop if not sooner.

Add Items to Columns in a WPF ListView

Solution With Less XAML and More C#

If you define the ListView in XAML:

<ListView x:Name="listView"/>

Then you can add columns and populate it in C#:

public Window()
{
    // Initialize
    this.InitializeComponent();

    // Add columns
    var gridView = new GridView();
    this.listView.View = gridView;
    gridView.Columns.Add(new GridViewColumn {
        Header = "Id", DisplayMemberBinding = new Binding("Id") });
    gridView.Columns.Add(new GridViewColumn {
        Header = "Name", DisplayMemberBinding = new Binding("Name") });

    // Populate list
    this.listView.Items.Add(new MyItem { Id = 1, Name = "David" });
}

See definition of MyItem below.

Solution With More XAML and less C#

However, it's easier to define the columns in XAML (inside the ListView definition):

<ListView x:Name="listView">
    <ListView.View>
        <GridView>
            <GridViewColumn Header="Id" DisplayMemberBinding="{Binding Id}"/>
            <GridViewColumn Header="Name" DisplayMemberBinding="{Binding Name}"/>
        </GridView>
    </ListView.View>
</ListView>

And then just populate the list in C#:

public Window()
{
    // Initialize
    this.InitializeComponent();

    // Populate list
    this.listView.Items.Add(new MyItem { Id = 1, Name = "David" });
}

See definition of MyItem below.

MyItem Definition

MyItem is defined like this:

public class MyItem
{
    public int Id { get; set; }

    public string Name { get; set; }
}

Using onBlur with JSX and React

There are a few problems here.

1: onBlur expects a callback, and you are calling renderPasswordConfirmError and using the return value, which is null.

2: you need a place to render the error.

3: you need a flag to track "and I validating", which you would set to true on blur. You can set this to false on focus if you want, depending on your desired behavior.

handleBlur: function () {
  this.setState({validating: true});
},
render: function () {
  return <div>
    ...
    <input
        type="password"
        placeholder="Password (confirm)"
        valueLink={this.linkState('password2')}
        onBlur={this.handleBlur}
     />
    ...
    {this.renderPasswordConfirmError()}
  </div>
},
renderPasswordConfirmError: function() {
  if (this.state.validating && this.state.password !== this.state.password2) {
    return (
      <div>
        <label className="error">Please enter the same password again.</label>
      </div>
    );
  }
  return null;
},

Convert generic list to dataset in C#

One option would be to use a System.ComponenetModel.BindingList rather than a list.

This allows you to use it directly within a DataGridView. And unlike a normal System.Collections.Generic.List updates the DataGridView on changes.

onchange event for input type="number"

Because $("input[type='number']") doesn't work on IE, we should use a class name or id, for example, $('.input_quantity').

And don't use .bind() method. The .on() method is the preferred method for attaching event handlers to a document.

So, my version is:

HTML

<input type="number" value="5" step=".5" min="1" max="999" id="txt_quantity" name="txt_quantity" class="input_quantity">

jQuery

<script>
$(document).ready(function(){
    $('.input_quantity').on('change keyup', function() {
        console.log('nice');
    });
});
</script>

How to add chmod permissions to file in Git?

Antwane's answer is correct, and this should be a comment but comments don't have enough space and do not allow formatting. :-) I just want to add that in Git, file permissions are recorded only1 as either 644 or 755 (spelled (100644 and 100755; the 100 part means "regular file"):

diff --git a/path b/path
new file mode 100644

The former—644—means that the file should not be executable, and the latter means that it should be executable. How that turns into actual file modes within your file system is somewhat OS-dependent. On Unix-like systems, the bits are passed through your umask setting, which would normally be 022 to remove write permission from "group" and "other", or 002 to remove write permission only from "other". It might also be 077 if you are especially concerned about privacy and wish to remove read, write, and execute permission from both "group" and "other".

1Extremely-early versions of Git saved group permissions, so that some repositories have tree entries with mode 664 in them. Modern Git does not, but since no part of any object can ever be changed, those old permissions bits still persist in old tree objects.

The change to store only 0644 or 0755 was in commit e44794706eeb57f2, which is before Git v0.99 and dated 16 April 2005.

c:\ProgramData\Oracle\Java\javapath_target_[tab]

remove junction/link and link to your version (the one ending with 181743567 in my case for Java 8)

rmdir javapath
mklink /D javapath javapath_target_181743567

longer version:

Reinstall Java 1.8 after Java 9 didn't work. The sequence of installations was jdk1.8.0_74, jdk-9.0.4 and attempt to make Java 8 default with jdk1.8.0_162...

After jdk1.8.0_162 installation I still have

java -version
java version "9.0.4"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 9.0.4+11)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 9.0.4+11, mixed mode)

What I see in path is

Path=...;C:\ProgramData\Oracle\Java\javapath;...

So I checked what is that and I found it is a junction (link)

c:\ProgramData\Oracle\Java>dir
 Volume in drive C is OSDisk
 Volume Serial Number is DA2F-C2CC

 Directory of c:\ProgramData\Oracle\Java

2018-02-07  17:06    <DIR>          .
2018-02-07  17:06    <DIR>          ..
2018-02-08  17:08    <DIR>          .oracle_jre_usage
2017-08-22  11:04    <DIR>          installcache
2018-02-08  17:08    <DIR>          installcache_x64
2018-02-07  17:06    <JUNCTION>     javapath [C:\ProgramData\Oracle\Java\javapath_target_185258831]
2018-02-07  17:06    <DIR>          javapath_target_181743567
2018-02-07  17:06    <DIR>          javapath_target_185258831

Those hashes doesn't ring a bell, but when I checked

c:\ProgramData\Oracle\Java\javapath_target_181743567>.\java -version
java version "1.8.0_162"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.8.0_162-b12)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 25.162-b12, mixed mode)

c:\ProgramData\Oracle\Java\javapath_target_185258831>.\java -version
java version "9.0.4"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 9.0.4+11)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 9.0.4+11, mixed mode)

so to make Java 8 default again I had to delete the link as described here

rmdir javapath

and recreate with Java I wanted

mklink /D javapath javapath_target_181743567

tested:

c:\ProgramData\Oracle\Java>java -version
java version "1.8.0_162"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.8.0_162-b12)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 25.162-b12, mixed mode)

** update (Java 10) **

With Java 10 it is similar, only javapath is in c:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Oracle\Java\ which is strange as I installed 64-bit IMHO

.\java -version
java version "10.0.2" 2018-07-17
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment 18.3 (build 10.0.2+13)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM 18.3 (build 10.0.2+13, mixed mode)

How to style child components from parent component's CSS file?

The quick answer is you shouldn't be doing this, at all. It breaks component encapsulation and undermines the benefit you're getting from self-contained components. Consider passing a prop flag to the child component, it can then decide itself how to render differently or apply different CSS, if necessary.

<parent>
  <child [foo]="bar"></child>
</parent>

Angular is deprecating all ways of affecting child styles from parents.

Box shadow for bottom side only

You can do the following after adding class one-edge-shadow or use as you like.

.one-edge-shadow {
    -webkit-box-shadow: 0 8px 6px -6px black;
       -moz-box-shadow: 0 8px 6px -6px black;
            box-shadow: 0 8px 6px -6px black;
}

How to get parameters from the URL with JSP

In a GET request, the request parameters are taken from the query string (the data following the question mark on the URL). For example, the URL http://hostname.com?p1=v1&p2=v2 contains two request parameters - - p1 and p2. In a POST request, the request parameters are taken from both query string and the posted data which is encoded in the body of the request.

This example demonstrates how to include the value of a request parameter in the generated output:

Hello <b><%= request.getParameter("name") %></b>!

If the page was accessed with the URL:

http://hostname.com/mywebapp/mypage.jsp?name=John+Smith

the resulting output would be:

Hello <b>John Smith</b>!

If name is not specified on the query string, the output would be:

Hello <b>null</b>!

This example uses the value of a query parameter in a scriptlet:

<%
    if (request.getParameter("name") == null) {
        out.println("Please enter your name.");
    } else {
        out.println("Hello <b>"+request. getParameter("name")+"</b>!");
    }
%>

How to prevent form resubmission when page is refreshed (F5 / CTRL+R)

You can prevent form resubmission via a session variable.

First you have to set rand() in a textbox and $_SESSION['rand'] on the form page:

<form action="" method="post">
  <?php
   $rand=rand();
   $_SESSION['rand']=$rand;
  ?>
 <input type="hidden" value="<?php echo $rand; ?>" name="randcheck" />
   Your Form's Other Field
 <input type="submit" name="submitbtn" value="submit" />
</form>

After that check $_SESSION['rand'] with textbox $_POST['randcheck'] value like this:

if(isset($_POST['submitbtn']) && $_POST['randcheck']==$_SESSION['rand'])
{
    // Your code here
}

Make sure you start the session on every file you are using it with session_start()

Insert ellipsis (...) into HTML tag if content too wide

DO THE ELLIPSIS USING ONLY CSS

<html>
<head>
<style type="text/css">
#ellipsisdiv {
    width:200px;
    white-space: nowrap;
    overflow: hidden;
    text-overflow: ellipsis;
}
</style>
</head>
<body>
<div id="ellipsisdiv">
This content is more than 200px and see how the the ellipsis comes at the end when the content width exceeds the div width.
</div>
</body>
</html>

*This code works on most current browsers. If you experience any problem with Opera and IE (which probably you won't), add these in the style:

-o-text-overflow: ellipsis;
-ms-text-overflow: ellipsis;

* This feature is part of CSS3. Its complete syntax is:

text-overflow: clip|ellipsis|string;

Access Session attribute on jstl

You don't need the jsp:useBean to set the model if you already have a controller which prepared the model.

Just access it plain by EL:

<p>${Questions.questionPaperID}</p>
<p>${Questions.question}</p>

or by JSTL <c:out> tag if you'd like to HTML-escape the values or when you're still working on legacy Servlet 2.3 containers or older when EL wasn't supported in template text yet:

<p><c:out value="${Questions.questionPaperID}" /></p>
<p><c:out value="${Questions.question}" /></p>

See also:

Unrelated to the problem, the normal practice is by the way to start attribute name with a lowercase, like you do with normal variable names.

session.setAttribute("questions", questions);

and alter EL accordingly to use ${questions}.

Also note that you don't have any JSTL tag in your code. It's all plain JSP.

error: strcpy was not declared in this scope

When you say:

 #include <cstring>

the g++ compiler should put the <string.h> declarations it itself includes into the std:: AND the global namespaces. It looks for some reason as if it is not doing that. Try replacing one instance of strcpy with std::strcpy and see if that fixes the problem.

What is the use of WPFFontCache Service in WPF? WPFFontCache_v0400.exe taking 100 % CPU all the time this exe is running, why?

From MSDN:

The WPF Font Cache service shares font data between WPF applications. The first WPF application you run starts this service if the service is not already running. If you are using Windows Vista, you can set the "Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) Font Cache 3.0.0.0" service from "Manual" (the default) to "Automatic (Delayed Start)" to reduce the initial start-up time of WPF applications.

There's no harm in disabling it, but WPF apps tend to start faster and load fonts faster with it running.
It is supposed to be a performance optimization. The fact that it is not in your case makes me suspect that perhaps your font cache is corrupted. To clear it, follow these steps:

  1. Stop the WPF Font Cache 4.0 service.
  2. Delete all of the WPFFontCache_v0400* files. In Windows XP, you'll find them in your C:\Documents and Settings\LocalService\Local Settings\Application Data\ folder.
  3. Start the service again.

Javascript : array.length returns undefined

It looks as though it's not an array but an arbitrary object. If you have control over the PHP serialization, you might be able to change that.

As raina77ow pointed out, one way to do this in PHP would be by replacing something like this:

json_encode($something)

with something like:

json_encode(array_values($something))

But don't ignore the other answers here about Object.keys. They should also accomplish what you want if you don't have the ability or the desire to change the serialization of your object.

UILabel - Wordwrap text

If you set numberOfLines to 0 (and the label to word wrap), the label will automatically wrap and use as many of lines as needed.

If you're editing a UILabel in IB, you can enter multiple lines of text by pressing option+return to get a line break - return alone will finish editing.

What is the official "preferred" way to install pip and virtualenv systemwide?

On Debian the best way to do it would be

sudo apt-get install python-pip

How do I disable right click on my web page?

A few things to consider:

Browser Plugins like "enable right click" in the chrome store exist for a reason, and you wont be able to get around them. There is LITERALLY NOTHING you can do to stop people from downloading your content as they literally have to download it to even see it in their browser anyway; People try but its always out there.

In general, if content shouldn't be public, don't put it online.

Also, not being able to right click is an accessibility issue and amounts to unlawful discrimination against the blind or disabled or elderly in many cases. Check you local laws, but in the USA its actively against the law in the form of the Federal ADA as the blind or the elderly who may have vision issues are a legally protected class.

So instead of doing this and wasting a lot of time and effort, don't even bother trying to do this. It could just get your company sued or have them fail a compliance audit.

Public free web services for testing soap client

There is a bunch on here:

http://www.webservicex.net/WS/wscatlist.aspx

Just google for "Free WebService" or "Open WebService" and you'll find tons of open SOAP endpoints.

Remember, you can get a WSDL from any ASMX endpoint by adding ?WSDL to the url.

PivotTable's Report Filter using "greater than"

In an Excel pivot table, you are correct that a filter only allows values that are explicitly selected. If the filter field is placed on the pivot table rows or columns, however, you get a much wider set of Label Filter conditions, including Greater Than. If you did that in your case, then the added benefit would be that the various probability levels that match your condition are shown in the body of the table.

Update Fragment from ViewPager

If you use Kotlin, you can do the following:

1. On first, you should be create Interface and implemented him in your Fragment

interface RefreshData {
    fun refresh()
}

class YourFragment : Fragment(), RefreshData {
    ...
    override fun refresh() {
        //do what you want
    }
}

2. Next step is add OnPageChangeListener to your ViewPager

viewPager.addOnPageChangeListener(object : ViewPager.OnPageChangeListener {
    override fun onPageScrollStateChanged(state: Int) { }

    override fun onPageSelected(position: Int) {
        viewPagerAdapter.notifyDataSetChanged()
        viewPager.currentItem = position
    }

    override fun onPageScrolled(position: Int, positionOffset: Float, positionOffsetPixels: Int) { }
})

3. override getItemPosition in your Adapter

override fun getItemPosition(obj: Any): Int {
    if (obj is RefreshData) {
        obj.refresh()
    }
    return super.getItemPosition(obj)
}

Check if inputs form are empty jQuery

You could do it like this :

bool areFieldEmpty = YES;
//Label to leave the loops
outer_loop;

//For each input (except of submit) in your form
$('form input[type!=submit]').each(function(){
   //If the field's empty
   if($(this).val() != '')
   {
      //Mark it
      areFieldEmpty = NO;
      //Then leave all the loops
      break outer_loop;
   }
});

//Then test your bool

Can I force a UITableView to hide the separator between empty cells?

Using the link from Daniel, I made an extension to make it more usable:

//UITableViewController+Ext.m
- (void)hideEmptySeparators
{
    UIView *v = [[UIView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectZero];
    v.backgroundColor = [UIColor clearColor];
    [self.tableView setTableFooterView:v];
    [v release];
}

After some testings, I found out that the size can be 0 and it works as well. So it doesn't add some kind of margin at the end of the table. So thanks wkw for this hack. I decided to post that here since I don't like redirect.

How can I programmatically freeze the top row of an Excel worksheet in Excel 2007 VBA?

Tomalak already gave you a correct answer, but I would like to add that most of the times when you would like to know the VBA code needed to do a certain action in the user interface it is a good idea to record a macro.

In this case click Record Macro on the developer tab of the Ribbon, freeze the top row and then stop recording. Excel will have the following macro recorded for you which also does the job:

With ActiveWindow
    .SplitColumn = 0
    .SplitRow = 1
End With
ActiveWindow.FreezePanes = True

Making a div vertically scrollable using CSS

You can use this code instead.

<div id="" style="overflow-y:scroll; overflow-x:hidden; height:400px;">

overflow-x: The overflow-x property specifies what to do with the left/right edges of the content - if it overflows the element's content area.
overflow-y: The overflow-y property specifies what to do with the top/bottom edges of the content - if it overflows the element's content area.

Values
visible: Default value. The content is not clipped, and it may be rendered outside the content box.
hidden: The content is clipped - and no scrolling mechanism is provided.
scroll: The content is clipped and a scrolling mechanism is provided.
auto: Should cause a scrolling mechanism to be provided for overflowing boxes.
initial: Sets this property to its default value.
inherit Inherits this property from its parent element.

How to split string using delimiter char using T-SQL?

For your specific data, you can use

Select col1, col2, LTRIM(RTRIM(SUBSTRING(
    STUFF(col3, CHARINDEX('|', col3,
    PATINDEX('%|Client Name =%', col3) + 14), 1000, ''),
    PATINDEX('%|Client Name =%', col3) + 14, 1000))) col3
from Table01

EDIT - charindex vs patindex

Test

select col3='Clent ID = 4356hy|Client Name = B B BOB|Client Phone = 667-444-2626|Client Fax = 666-666-0151|Info = INF8888877 -MAC333330554/444400800'
into t1m
from master..spt_values a
cross join master..spt_values b
where a.number < 100
-- (711704 row(s) affected)

set statistics time on

dbcc dropcleanbuffers
dbcc freeproccache
select a=CHARINDEX('|Client Name =', col3) into #tmp1 from t1m
drop table #tmp1

dbcc dropcleanbuffers
dbcc freeproccache
select a=PATINDEX('%|Client Name =%', col3) into #tmp2 from t1m
drop table #tmp2

set statistics time off

Timings

CHARINDEX:

 SQL Server Execution Times (1):
   CPU time = 5656 ms, elapsed time = 6418 ms.
 SQL Server Execution Times (2):
   CPU time = 5813 ms, elapsed time = 6114 ms.
 SQL Server Execution Times (3):
   CPU time = 5672 ms, elapsed time = 6108 ms.

PATINDEX:

 SQL Server Execution Times (1):
   CPU time = 5906 ms, elapsed time = 6296 ms.
 SQL Server Execution Times (2):
   CPU time = 5860 ms, elapsed time = 6404 ms.
 SQL Server Execution Times (3):
   CPU time = 6109 ms, elapsed time = 6301 ms.

Conclusion

The timings for CharIndex and PatIndex for 700k calls are within 3.5% of each other, so I don't think it would matter whichever is used. I use them interchangeably when both can work.

Visual studio - getting error "Metadata file 'XYZ' could not be found" after edit continue

I had this error come up. I followed all of the solutions here but nothing worked. I was using Visual Studio 2013 Professional. I couldn't get the individual project rebuilds to work and I finally figured out there was a circular dependency in my references. Visual Studio does a pretty good job normally of warning you if you are adding a reference to something that references back, but for some reason it didn't in this instance. I added a reference to a project that referenced the project I was working on - and it accepted it. VS bug perhaps?

Insert results of a stored procedure into a temporary table

You can use OPENROWSET for this. Have a look. I've also included the sp_configure code to enable Ad Hoc Distributed Queries, in case it isn't already enabled.

    SELECT * FROM sys.databases
END
GO

sp_configure 'Show Advanced Options', 1
GO
RECONFIGURE
GO
sp_configure 'Ad Hoc Distributed Queries', 1
GO

GO

SELECT * INTO #MyTempTable FROM OPENROWSET('SQLNCLI', 'Server=(local)\SQL2008;Trusted_Connection=yes;',
     'EXEC getBusinessLineHistory')

SELECT * FROM #MyTempTable

Error inflating class android.support.design.widget.NavigationView

BETTER I UPGRADED com.android.support:appcompat-v7:23.1.0

as @Ton said downgrade compile 'com.android.support:design:23.1.0'

BUT Why not to upgrade com.android.support:appcompat-v7:23.1.1

Final upgraded worked for me enjoy

compile 'com.android.support:appcompat-v7:23.1.1'
compile 'com.android.support:design:23.1.1'

So why to use older library. I think is now better to use both design and compact upgraded.

Open a selected file (image, pdf, ...) programmatically from my Android Application?

To Open a File in Android Programatically,you can use this code :- We use File Provider for internal file access .You can also see details about File Provider here in this linkfileprovidr1,file provider2,file provider3. Create a File Provider and defined in Manifest File .

<provider
    android:name="android.support.v4.content.FileProvider"
    android:authorities="com.packagename.app.fileprovider"
    android:exported="false"
    android:grantUriPermissions="true">

    <meta-data
        android:name="android.support.FILE_PROVIDER_PATHS"
        android:resource="@xml/file_paths">
    </meta-data>

</provider>

Define file_path in resources file.

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<paths xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android">
    <external-path
        name="my_images"
        path="Android/data/com.packagename.app/files/Pictures" />

    <external-files-path name="vivalinkComProp" path="Android/data/com.vivalink.app/vivalinkComProp/docs"/>
    <external-path
        name="external"
        path="." />
    <external-files-path
        name="external_files"
        path="." />
    <cache-path
        name="cache"
        path="." />
    <external-cache-path
        name="external_cache"
        path="." />
    <files-path
        name="files"
        path="." />

</paths>

Define Intent For View

String directory_path = Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory().getPath() + "/MyFile/";
String targetPdf = directory_path + fileName + ".pdf";
File filePath = new File(targetPdf);

Intent intentShareFile = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_VIEW);
File fileWithinMyDir = new File(targetPdf);
Uri bmpUri = FileProvider.getUriForFile(activity, "com.packagename.app.fileprovider", filePath);
if (fileWithinMyDir.exists()) {
    intentShareFile.setDataAndType(bmpUri,"application/pdf");
    intentShareFile.addFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_NEW_TASK);
    intentShareFile.setFlags(Intent.FLAG_GRANT_READ_URI_PERMISSION | Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_CLEAR_TOP);
    startActivity(Intent.createChooser(intentShareFile, "Open File Using..."));

}

You can use different way to create a file provider in android . Hope this will help you.

How to get twitter bootstrap modal to close (after initial launch)

Try on this..

$('body').removeClass('modal-open');

$('.modal-backdrop').remove();

How to write a file or data to an S3 object using boto3

it is worth mentioning smart-open that uses boto3 as a back-end.

smart-open is a drop-in replacement for python's open that can open files from s3, as well as ftp, http and many other protocols.

for example

from smart_open import open
import json
with open("s3://your_bucket/your_key.json", 'r') as f:
    data = json.load(f)

The aws credentials are loaded via boto3 credentials, usually a file in the ~/.aws/ dir or an environment variable.

Create multiple threads and wait all of them to complete

In my case, I could not instantiate my objects on the the thread pool with Task.Run() or Task.Factory.StartNew(). They would not synchronize my long running delegates correctly.

I needed the delegates to run asynchronously, pausing my main thread for their collective completion. The Thread.Join() would not work since I wanted to wait for collective completion in the middle of the parent thread, not at the end.

With the Task.Run() or Task.Factory.StartNew(), either all the child threads blocked each other or the parent thread would not be blocked, ... I couldn't figure out how to go with async delegates because of the re-serialization of the await syntax.

Here is my solution using Threads instead of Tasks:

using (EventWaitHandle wh = new EventWaitHandle(false, EventResetMode.ManualReset))
{
  int outdex = mediaServerMinConnections - 1;
  for (int i = 0; i < mediaServerMinConnections; i++)
  {
    new Thread(() =>
    {
      sshPool.Enqueue(new SshHandler());
      if (Interlocked.Decrement(ref outdex) < 1)
        wh.Set();
    }).Start();
  }
  wh.WaitOne();
}

Microsoft Azure: How to create sub directory in a blob container

There is actually only a single layer of containers. You can virtually create a "file-system" like layered storage, but in reality everything will be in 1 layer, the container in which it is.

For creating a virtual "file-system" like storage, you can have blob names that contain a '/' so that you can do whatever you like with the way you store. Also, the great thing is that you can search for a blob at a virtual level, by giving a partial string, up to a '/'.

These 2 things, adding a '/' to a path and a partial string for search, together create a virtual "file-system" storage.

What is a handle in C++?

A handle is a pointer or index with no visible type attached to it. Usually you see something like:

 typedef void* HANDLE;
 HANDLE myHandleToSomething = CreateSomething();

So in your code you just pass HANDLE around as an opaque value.

In the code that uses the object, it casts the pointer to a real structure type and uses it:

 int doSomething(HANDLE s, int a, int b) {
     Something* something = reinterpret_cast<Something*>(s);
     return something->doit(a, b);
 }

Or it uses it as an index to an array/vector:

 int doSomething(HANDLE s, int a, int b) {
     int index = (int)s;
     try {
         Something& something = vecSomething[index];
         return something.doit(a, b);
     } catch (boundscheck& e) {
         throw SomethingException(INVALID_HANDLE);
     }
 }

Add element to a list In Scala

I will try to explain the results of all the commands you tried.

scala> val l = 1.0 :: 5.5 :: Nil
l: List[Double] = List(1.0, 5.5)

First of all, List is a type alias to scala.collection.immutable.List (defined in Predef.scala).

Using the List companion object is more straightforward way to instantiate a List. Ex: List(1.0,5.5)

scala> l
res0: List[Double] = List(1.0, 5.5)

scala> l ::: List(2.2, 3.7)
res1: List[Double] = List(1.0, 5.5, 2.2, 3.7)

::: returns a list resulting from the concatenation of the given list prefix and this list

The original List is NOT modified

scala> List(l) :+ 2.2
res2: List[Any] = List(List(1.0, 5.5), 2.2)

List(l) is a List[List[Double]] Definitely not what you want.

:+ returns a new list consisting of all elements of this list followed by elem.

The type is List[Any] because it is the common superclass between List[Double] and Double

scala> l
res3: List[Double] = List(1.0, 5.5)

l is left unmodified because no method on immutable.List modified the List.

Convert a string to integer with decimal in Python

How about this?

>>> s = '23.45678'
>>> int(float(s))
23

Or...

>>> int(Decimal(s))
23

Or...

>>> int(s.split('.')[0])
23

I doubt it's going to get much simpler than that, I'm afraid. Just accept it and move on.

Crop image in PHP

imagecopyresampled() will take a rectangular area from $src_image of width $src_w and height $src_h at position ($src_x, $src_y) and place it in a rectangular area of $dst_image of width $dst_w and height $dst_h at position ($dst_x, $dst_y).

If the source and destination coordinates and width and heights differ, appropriate stretching or shrinking of the image fragment will be performed. The coordinates refer to the upper left corner.

This function can be used to copy regions within the same image. But if the regions overlap, the results will be unpredictable.

- Edit -

If $src_w and $src_h are smaller than $dst_w and $dst_h respectively, thumb image will be zoomed in. Otherwise it will be zoomed out.

<?php
$dst_x = 0;   // X-coordinate of destination point
$dst_y = 0;   // Y-coordinate of destination point
$src_x = 100; // Crop Start X position in original image
$src_y = 100; // Crop Srart Y position in original image
$dst_w = 160; // Thumb width
$dst_h = 120; // Thumb height
$src_w = 260; // Crop end X position in original image
$src_h = 220; // Crop end Y position in original image

// Creating an image with true colors having thumb dimensions (to merge with the original image)
$dst_image = imagecreatetruecolor($dst_w, $dst_h);
// Get original image
$src_image = imagecreatefromjpeg('images/source.jpg');
// Cropping
imagecopyresampled($dst_image, $src_image, $dst_x, $dst_y, $src_x, $src_y, $dst_w, $dst_h, $src_w, $src_h);
// Saving
imagejpeg($dst_image, 'images/crop.jpg');
?>
