How to redirect and append both stdout and stderr to a file with Bash?

I am surprised that in almost ten years, no one has posted this approach yet:

If using older versions of bash where &>> isn't available, you also can do:

(cmd 2>&1) >> file.txt

This spawns a subshell, so it's less efficient than the traditional approach of cmd >> file.txt 2>&1, and it consequently won't work for commands that need to modify the current shell (e.g. cd, pushd), but this approach feels more natural and understandable to me:

  1. Redirect stderr to stdout.
  2. Redirect the new stdout by appending to a file.

Also, the parentheses remove any ambiguity of order, especially if you want to pipe stdout and stderr to another command instead.

Edit: To avoid starting a subshell, you instead could use curly braces instead of parentheses to create a group command:

{ cmd 2>&1; } >> file.txt

(Note that a semicolon (or newline) is required to terminate the group command.)

How to configure multi-module Maven + Sonar + JaCoCo to give merged coverage report?

I was in the same situation as you, the half answers scattered throughout the Internet were quite annoying, since it seemed that many people had the same issue, but no one could be bothered to fully explain how they solved it.

The Sonar docs refer to a GitHub project with examples that are helpful. What I did to solve this was to apply the integration tests logic to regular unit tests (although proper unit tests should be submodule specific, this isn't always the case).

In the parent pom.xml, add these properties:

<properties>
    <!-- Sonar -->
    <sonar.java.coveragePlugin>jacoco</sonar.java.coveragePlugin>
    <sonar.dynamicAnalysis>reuseReports</sonar.dynamicAnalysis>
    <sonar.jacoco.reportPath>${project.basedir}/../target/jacoco.exec</sonar.jacoco.reportPath>
    <sonar.language>java</sonar.language>
</properties>

This will make Sonar pick up unit testing reports for all submodules in the same place (a target folder in the parent project). It also tells Sonar to reuse reports ran manually instead of rolling its own. We just need to make jacoco-maven-plugin run for all submodules by placing this in the parent pom, inside build/plugins:

<plugin>
    <groupId>org.jacoco</groupId>
    <artifactId>jacoco-maven-plugin</artifactId>
    <version>0.6.0.201210061924</version>
    <configuration>
        <destFile>${sonar.jacoco.reportPath}</destFile>
        <append>true</append>
    </configuration>
    <executions>
        <execution>
            <id>agent</id>
            <goals>
                <goal>prepare-agent</goal>
            </goals>
        </execution>
    </executions>
</plugin>

destFile places the report file in the place where Sonar will look for it and append makes it append to the file rather than overwriting it. This will combine all JaCoCo reports for all submodules in the same file.

Sonar will look at that file for each submodule, since that's what we pointed him at above, giving us combined unit testing results for multi module files in Sonar.

RegEx pattern any two letters followed by six numbers

Depending on if your regex flavor supports it, I might use:

\b[A-Z]{2}\d{6}\b # Ensure there are "word boundaries" on either side, or

(?<![A-Z])[A-Z]{2}\d{6}(?!\d) # Ensure there isn't a uppercase letter before
                              # and that there is not a digit after

Using Python's os.path, how do I go up one directory?

os.path.abspath(os.path.join(os.path.dirname( __file__ ), '..', 'templates'))

As far as where the templates folder should go, I don't know since Django 1.4 just came out and I haven't looked at it yet. You should probably ask another question on SE to solve that issue.

You can also use normpath to clean up the path, rather than abspath. However, in this situation, Django expects an absolute path rather than a relative path.

For cross platform compatability, use os.pardir instead of '..'.

what are the .map files used for in Bootstrap 3.x?

From Working with CSS preprocessors in Chrome DevTools:

Many developers generate CSS style sheets using a CSS preprocessor, such as Sass, Less, or Stylus. Because the CSS files are generated, editing the CSS files directly is not as helpful.

For preprocessors that support CSS source maps, DevTools lets you live-edit your preprocessor source files in the Sources panel, and view the results without having to leave DevTools or refresh the page. When you inspect an element whose styles are provided by a generated CSS file, the Elements panel displays a link to the original source file, not the generated .css file.

How do I clear this setInterval inside a function?

Simplest way I could think of: add a class.

Simply add a class (on any element) and check inside the interval if it's there. This is more reliable, customisable and cross-language than any other way, I believe.

Merge (Concat) Multiple JSONObjects in Java

For me that function worked:

private static JSONObject concatJSONS(JSONObject json, JSONObject obj) {
    JSONObject result = new JSONObject();

    for(Object key: json.keySet()) {
        System.out.println("adding " + key + " to result json");
        result.put(key, json.get(key));
    }

    for(Object key: obj.keySet()) {
        System.out.println("adding " + key + " to result json");
        result.put(key, obj.get(key));
    }

    return result;
}

(notice) - this implementation of concataion of json is for import org.json.simple.JSONObject;

Is there a difference between /\s/g and /\s+/g?

In the first regex, each space character is being replaced, character by character, with the empty string.

In the second regex, each contiguous string of space characters is being replaced with the empty string because of the +.

However, just like how 0 multiplied by anything else is 0, it seems as if both methods strip spaces in exactly the same way.

If you change the replacement string to '#', the difference becomes much clearer:

var str = '  A B  C   D EF ';
console.log(str.replace(/\s/g, '#'));  // ##A#B##C###D#EF#
console.log(str.replace(/\s+/g, '#')); // #A#B#C#D#EF#

jQuery deferreds and promises - .then() vs .done()

then() always means it will be called in whatever case. But the parameters passing are different in different jQuery versions.

Prior to jQuery 1.8, then() equals done().fail(). And all of the callback functions share same parameters.

But as of jQuery 1.8, then() returns a new promise, and if it has return a value, it will be passed into the next callback function.

Let's see the following example:

var defer = jQuery.Deferred();

defer.done(function(a, b){
            return a + b;
}).done(function( result ) {
            console.log("result = " + result);
}).then(function( a, b ) {
            return a + b;
}).done(function( result ) {
            console.log("result = " + result);
}).then(function( a, b ) {
            return a + b;
}).done(function( result ) {
            console.log("result = " + result);
});

defer.resolve( 3, 4 );

Prior to jQuery 1.8, the answer should be

result = 3
result = 3
result = 3

All result takes 3. And then() function always passes the same deferred object to the next function.

But as of jQuery 1.8, the result should be:

result = 3
result = 7
result = NaN

Because the first then() function returns a new promise, and the value 7 (and this is the only parameter that will passed on)is passed to the next done(), so the second done() write result = 7. The second then() takes 7 as the value of a and takes undefined as the value of b, so the second then() returns a new promise with the parameter NaN, and the last done() prints NaN as its result.

How to use matplotlib tight layout with Figure?

Just call fig.tight_layout() as you normally would. (pyplot is just a convenience wrapper. In most cases, you only use it to quickly generate figure and axes objects and then call their methods directly.)

There shouldn't be a difference between the QtAgg backend and the default backend (or if there is, it's a bug).

E.g.

import matplotlib.pyplot as plt

#-- In your case, you'd do something more like:
# from matplotlib.figure import Figure
# fig = Figure()
#-- ...but we want to use it interactive for a quick example, so
#-- we'll do it this way
fig, axes = plt.subplots(nrows=4, ncols=4)

for i, ax in enumerate(axes.flat, start=1):
    ax.set_title('Test Axes {}'.format(i))
    ax.set_xlabel('X axis')
    ax.set_ylabel('Y axis')

plt.show()

After Tight Layout

import matplotlib.pyplot as plt

fig, axes = plt.subplots(nrows=4, ncols=4)

for i, ax in enumerate(axes.flat, start=1):
    ax.set_title('Test Axes {}'.format(i))
    ax.set_xlabel('X axis')
    ax.set_ylabel('Y axis')

fig.tight_layout()

URLEncoder not able to translate space character

Although quite old, nevertheless a quick response:

Spring provides UriUtils - with this you can specify how to encoded and which part is it related from an URI, e.g.

encodePathSegment
encodePort
encodeFragment
encodeUriVariables
....

I use them cause we already using Spring, i.e. no additonal library is required!

How to render pdfs using C#

Google has open sourced its excellent PDF rendering engine - PDFium - that it wrote with Foxit Software.

There is a C# nuget package called PdfiumViewer which gives a C# wrapper around PDFium and allows PDFs to be displayed and printed.

I have used it and was very impressed with the quality of the rendering.

PDFium works directly with streams so it doesn't require any data to be written to disk.

This is my example from a WinForms app

    public void LoadPdf(byte[] pdfBytes)
    {
        var stream = new MemoryStream(pdfBytes);
        LoadPdf(stream)
    }

    public void LoadPdf(Stream stream)
    {
        // Create PDF Document
        var pdfDocument = PdfDocument.Load(stream);

        // Load PDF Document into WinForms Control
        pdfRenderer.Load(pdfDocument);
    }

Edit: To get the pdfRenderer control in WinForm: Add the PdfiumViewer NuGet package to the project; open the projects packages folder in Windows Explorer and drag the PdfiumViewer.dll file onto the Toolbox window; A control called PdfRenderer will be available to add:

        .map(res => res.json())
        // This catch is very powerfull, it can catch all errors
        .catch((err: Response) => {
          // The err.statusText is empty if server down (err.type === 3)
          console.log((err.statusText || "Can't join the server."));

          reject((err.statusText || "Can't join the server."));
          // This return is required to compile but unuseable in your app
          return Observable.throw(err);
        })
        // The (err) => {} param on subscribe can't catch server down error so I keep only the catch

50% takes you half way.

How to convert an NSTimeInterval (seconds) into minutes

All of these look more complicated than they need to be! Here is a short and sweet way to convert a time interval into hours, minutes and seconds:

NSTimeInterval timeInterval = 326.4;
long seconds = lroundf(timeInterval); // Since modulo operator (%) below needs int or long

int hour = seconds / 3600;
int mins = (seconds % 3600) / 60;
int secs = seconds % 60;

Note when you put a float into an int, you get floor() automatically, but you can add it to the first two if if makes you feel better :-)

How can I prevent the textarea from stretching beyond his parent DIV element? (google-chrome issue only)

Textarea resize control is available via the CSS3 resize property:

textarea { resize: both; } /* none|horizontal|vertical|both */
textarea.resize-vertical{ resize: vertical; }
textarea.resize-none { resize: none; }

Allowable values self-explanatory: none (disables textarea resizing), both, vertical and horizontal.

Notice that in Chrome, Firefox and Safari the default is both.

If you want to constrain the width and height of the textarea element, that's not a problem: these browsers also respect max-height, max-width, min-height, and min-width CSS properties to provide resizing within certain proportions.

Code example:

Easiest way to pass an AngularJS scope variable from directive to controller?

Wait until angular has evaluated the variable

I had a lot of fiddling around with this, and couldn't get it to work even with the variable defined with "=" in the scope. Here's three solutions depending on your situation.

Solution #1

I found that the variable was not evaluated by angular yet when it was passed to the directive. This means that you can access it and use it in the template, but not inside the link or app controller function unless we wait for it to be evaluated.

If your variable is changing, or is fetched through a request, you should use $observe or $watch:

app.directive('yourDirective', function () {
    return {
        restrict: 'A',
        // NB: no isolated scope!!
        link: function (scope, element, attrs) {
            // observe changes in attribute - could also be scope.$watch
            attrs.$observe('yourDirective', function (value) {
                if (value) {
                    console.log(value);
                    // pass value to app controller
                    scope.variable = value;
                }
            });
        },
        // the variable is available in directive controller,
        // and can be fetched as done in link function
        controller: ['$scope', '$element', '$attrs',
            function ($scope, $element, $attrs) {
                // observe changes in attribute - could also be scope.$watch
                $attrs.$observe('yourDirective', function (value) {
                    if (value) {
                        console.log(value);
                        // pass value to app controller
                        $scope.variable = value;
                    }
                });
            }
        ]
    };
})
.controller('MyCtrl', ['$scope', function ($scope) {
    // variable passed to app controller
    $scope.$watch('variable', function (value) {
        if (value) {
            console.log(value);
        }
    });
}]);

And here's the html (remember the brackets!):

<div ng-controller="MyCtrl">
    <div your-directive="{{ someObject.someVariable }}"></div>
    <!-- use ng-bind in stead of {{ }}, when you can to avoids FOUC -->
    <div ng-bind="variable"></div>
</div>

Note that you should not set the variable to "=" in the scope, if you are using the $observe function. Also, I found that it passes objects as strings, so if you're passing objects use solution #2 or scope.$watch(attrs.yourDirective, fn) (, or #3 if your variable is not changing).

Solution #2

If your variable is created in e.g. another controller, but just need to wait until angular has evaluated it before sending it to the app controller, we can use $timeout to wait until the $apply has run. Also we need to use $emit to send it to the parent scope app controller (due to the isolated scope in the directive):

app.directive('yourDirective', ['$timeout', function ($timeout) {
    return {
        restrict: 'A',
        // NB: isolated scope!!
        scope: {
            yourDirective: '='
        },
        link: function (scope, element, attrs) {
            // wait until after $apply
            $timeout(function(){
                console.log(scope.yourDirective);
                // use scope.$emit to pass it to controller
                scope.$emit('notification', scope.yourDirective);
            });
        },
        // the variable is available in directive controller,
        // and can be fetched as done in link function
        controller: [ '$scope', function ($scope) {
            // wait until after $apply
            $timeout(function(){
                console.log($scope.yourDirective);
                // use $scope.$emit to pass it to controller
                $scope.$emit('notification', scope.yourDirective);
            });
        }]
    };
}])
.controller('MyCtrl', ['$scope', function ($scope) {
    // variable passed to app controller
    $scope.$on('notification', function (evt, value) {
        console.log(value);
        $scope.variable = value;
    });
}]);

And here's the html (no brackets!):

<div ng-controller="MyCtrl">
    <div your-directive="someObject.someVariable"></div>
    <!-- use ng-bind in stead of {{ }}, when you can to avoids FOUC -->
    <div ng-bind="variable"></div>
</div>

Solution #3

If your variable is not changing and you need to evaluate it in your directive, you can use the $eval function:

app.directive('yourDirective', function () {
    return {
        restrict: 'A',
        // NB: no isolated scope!!
        link: function (scope, element, attrs) {
            // executes the expression on the current scope returning the result
            // and adds it to the scope
            scope.variable = scope.$eval(attrs.yourDirective);
            console.log(scope.variable);

        },
        // the variable is available in directive controller,
        // and can be fetched as done in link function
        controller: ['$scope', '$element', '$attrs',
            function ($scope, $element, $attrs) {
                // executes the expression on the current scope returning the result
                // and adds it to the scope
                scope.variable = scope.$eval($attrs.yourDirective);
                console.log($scope.variable);
            }
         ]
    };
})
.controller('MyCtrl', ['$scope', function ($scope) {
    // variable passed to app controller
    $scope.$watch('variable', function (value) {
        if (value) {
            console.log(value);
        }
    });
}]);

And here's the html (remember the brackets!):

<div ng-controller="MyCtrl">
    <div your-directive="{{ someObject.someVariable }}"></div>
    <!-- use ng-bind instead of {{ }}, when you can to avoids FOUC -->
    <div ng-bind="variable"></div>

Set variable with multiple values and use IN

You need a table variable:

declare @values table
(
    Value varchar(1000)
)

insert into @values values ('A')
insert into @values values ('B')
insert into @values values ('C')

select blah
from foo
where myField in (select value from @values)

Python 2: AttributeError: 'list' object has no attribute 'strip'

You split the string entry of the list. l[0].strip()

jQuery Clone table row

Is very simple to clone the last row with jquery pressing a button:

Your Table HTML:

<table id="tableExample">
    <thead>
        <tr>
            <th>ID</th>
            <th>Header 1</th>
        </tr>
    </thead>
    <tbody>
        <tr>
            <td>1</td>
            <td>Line 1</td>
        </tr>
    </tbody>
    <tfoot>
        <tr>
            <td colspan="2"><button type="button" id="addRowButton">Add row</button></td>
        </tr>
    </tfoot>
</table>

JS:

$(document).on('click', '#addRowButton', function() {
    var table = $('#tableExample'),
        lastRow = table.find('tbody tr:last'),
        rowClone = lastRow.clone();

    table.find('tbody').append(rowClone);
});

How do I show/hide a UIBarButtonItem?

Try in Swift, don't update the tintColor if you have some design for your UIBarButtonItem like font size in AppDelegate, it will totally change the appearance of your button when showing up.

In case of a text button, changing title can let your button 'disappear'.

if WANT_TO_SHOW {
    myBarButtonItem.enabled = true
    myBarButtonItem.title = "BUTTON_NAME"
}else{
    myBarButtonItem.enabled = false
    myBarButtonItem.title = ""
}

How to use export with Python on Linux

Another way to do this, if you're in a hurry and don't mind the hacky-aftertaste, is to execute the output of the python script in your bash environment and print out the commands to execute setting the environment in python. Not ideal but it can get the job done in a pinch. It's not very portable across shells, so YMMV.

$(python -c 'print "export MY_DATA=my_export"')

(you can also enclose the statement in backticks in some shells ``)

jQuery access input hidden value

You can access hidden fields' values with val(), just like you can do on any other input element:

<input type="hidden" id="foo" name="zyx" value="bar" />

alert($('input#foo').val());
alert($('input[name=zyx]').val());
alert($('input[type=hidden]').val());
alert($(':hidden#foo').val());
alert($('input:hidden[name=zyx]').val());

Those all mean the same thing in this example.

How do I activate a virtualenv inside PyCharm's terminal?

If You are using windows version it is quite easy. If you already have the virtual environment just navigate to its folder, find activate.bat inside Scripts folder. copy it's full path and paste it in pycharm's terminal then press Enter and you're done!

If you need to create new virtual environment :

Go to files > settings then search for project interpreter, open it, click on gear button and create the environment wherever you want and then follow first paragraph.

Excel formula to get cell color

As commented, just in case the link I posted there broke, try this:

Add a Name(any valid name) in Excel's Name Manager under Formula tab in the Ribbon.
Then assign a formula using GET.CELL function.

=GET.CELL(63,INDIRECT("rc",FALSE))

63 stands for backcolor.
Let's say we name it Background so in any cell with color type:

=Background

Result:
enter image description here

Notice that Cells A2, A3 and A4 returns 3, 4, and 5 respectively which equates to the cells background color index. HTH.
BTW, here's a link on Excel's Color Index

How to install easy_install in Python 2.7.1 on Windows 7

Look for the official 2.7 setuptools installer (which contains easy_install). You only need to install from sources for windows 64 bits.

Call PowerShell script PS1 from another PS1 script inside Powershell ISE

I had a problem with this. I didn't use any clever $MyInvocation stuff to fix it though. If you open the ISE by right clicking a script file and selecting edit then open the second script from within the ISE you can invoke one from the other by just using the normal .\script.ps1 syntax. My guess is that the ISE has the notion of a current folder and opening it like this sets the current folder to the folder containing the scripts. When I invoke one script from another in normal use I just use .\script.ps1, IMO it's wrong to modify the script just to make it work in the ISE properly...

What is the difference between SessionState and ViewState?

Session is used mainly for storing user specific data [ session specific data ]. In the case of session you can use the value for the whole session until the session expires or the user abandons the session. Viewstate is the type of data that has scope only in the page in which it is used. You canot have viewstate values accesible to other pages unless you transfer those values to the desired page. Also in the case of viewstate all the server side control datas are transferred to the server as key value pair in __Viewstate and transferred back and rendered to the appropriate control in client when postback occurs.

What's the purpose of SQL keyword "AS"?

The AS keyword is to give an ALIAS name to your database table or to table column. In your example, both statement are correct but there are circumstance where AS clause is needed (though the AS operator itself is optional), e.g.

SELECT salary * 2 AS "Double salary" FROM employee;

In this case, the Employee table has a salary column and we just want the double of the salary with a new name Double Salary.

Sorry if my explanation is not effective.

Update based on your comment, you're right, my previous statement was invalid. The only reason I can think of is that the AS clause has been in existence for long in the SQL world that it's been incorporated in nowadays RDMS for backward compatibility..

How can I print message in Makefile?

It's not clear what you want, or whether you want this trick to work with different targets, or whether you've defined these targets elsewhere, or what version of Make you're using, but what the heck, I'll go out on a limb:

ifeq (yes, ${TEST})
CXXFLAGS := ${CXXFLAGS} -DDESKTOP_TEST
test:
$(info ************  TEST VERSION ************)
else
release:
$(info ************ RELEASE VERSIOIN **********)

what's the easiest way to put space between 2 side-by-side buttons in asp.net

If you are using bootstrap, add ml-3 to your second button:

 <div class="row justify-content-center mt-5">
        <button class="btn btn-secondary" type="button">Button1</button>
        <button class="btn btn-secondary ml-3" type="button">Button2</button>

The use of Swift 3 @objc inference in Swift 4 mode is deprecated?

All you need just run a test wait till finish, after that go to Build Setting, Search in to Build Setting Inference, change swift 3 @objc Inference to (Default). that's all what i did and worked perfect.

Extract code country from phone number [libphonenumber]

Here is a solution to get the country based on an international phone number without using the Google library.

Let me explain first why it is so difficult to figure out the country. The country code of few countries is 1 digit, 2, 3 or 4 digits. That would be simple enough. But the country code 1 is not just used for US, but also for Canada and some smaller places:

1339 USA
1340 Virgin Islands (Caribbean Islands)
1341 USA
1342 not used
1343 Canada

Digits 2..4 decide, if it is US or Canada or ... There is no easy way to figure out the country, like the first xxx are Canada, the rest US.

For my code, I defined a class which holds information for ever digit:

public class DigitInfo {
  public char Digit;
  public Country? Country;
  public DigitInfo?[]? Digits;
}

A first array holds the DigitInfos for the first digit in the number. The second digit is used as an index into DigitInfo.Digits. One travels down that Digits chain, until Digits is empty. If Country is defined (i.e. not null) that value gets returned, otherwise any Country defined earlier gets returned:

country code 1: byPhone[1].Country is US
country code 1236: byPhone[1].Digits[2].Digits[3].Digits[6].Country is Canada
country code 1235: byPhone[1].Digits[2].Digits[3].Digits[5].Country is null. Since
                   byPhone[1].Country is US, also 1235 is US, because no other
                   country was found in the later digits

Here is the method which returns the country based on the phone number:

/// <summary>
/// Returns the Country based on an international dialing code.
/// </summary>
public static Country? GetCountry(ReadOnlySpan<char> phoneNumber) {
  if (phoneNumber.Length==0) return null;

  var isFirstDigit = true;
  DigitInfo? digitInfo = null;
  Country? country = null;
  foreach (var digitChar in phoneNumber) {
    var digitIndex = digitChar - '0';
    if (isFirstDigit) {
      isFirstDigit = false;
      digitInfo = ByPhone[digitIndex];
    } else {
      if (digitInfo!.Digits is null) return country;

      digitInfo = digitInfo.Digits[digitIndex];
    }
    if (digitInfo is null) return country;

    country = digitInfo.Country??country;
  }
  return country;
}

The rest of the code (digitInfos for every country of the world, test code, ...) is too big to be posted here, but it can be found on Github: https://github.com/PeterHuberSg/WpfWindowsLib/blob/master/WpfWindowsLib/CountryCode.cs

The code is part of a WPF TextBox and the library contains also other controls for email addresses, etc. A more detailed description is on CodeProject: International Phone Number Validation Explained in Detail

Get all child views inside LinearLayout at once

Get all views of a view plus its children recursively in Kotlin:

private fun View.getAllViews(): List<View> {
    if (this !is ViewGroup || childCount == 0) return listOf(this)

    return children
            .toList()
            .flatMap { it.getAllViews() }
            .plus(this as View)
}

What does an exclamation mark before a cell reference mean?

When entered as the reference of a Named range, it refers to range on the sheet the named range is used on.

For example, create a named range MyName refering to =SUM(!B1:!K1)

Place a formula on Sheet1 =MyName. This will sum Sheet1!B1:K1

Now place the same formula (=MyName) on Sheet2. That formula will sum Sheet2!B1:K1

Note: (as pnuts commented) this and the regular SheetName!B1:K1 format are relative, so reference different cells as the =MyName formula is entered into different cells.

How to parse/format dates with LocalDateTime? (Java 8)

Parsing date and time

To create a LocalDateTime object from a string you can use the static LocalDateTime.parse() method. It takes a string and a DateTimeFormatter as parameter. The DateTimeFormatter is used to specify the date/time pattern.

String str = "1986-04-08 12:30";
DateTimeFormatter formatter = DateTimeFormatter.ofPattern("yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm");
LocalDateTime dateTime = LocalDateTime.parse(str, formatter);

Formatting date and time

To create a formatted string out a LocalDateTime object you can use the format() method.

DateTimeFormatter formatter = DateTimeFormatter.ofPattern("yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm");
LocalDateTime dateTime = LocalDateTime.of(1986, Month.APRIL, 8, 12, 30);
String formattedDateTime = dateTime.format(formatter); // "1986-04-08 12:30"

Note that there are some commonly used date/time formats predefined as constants in DateTimeFormatter. For example: Using DateTimeFormatter.ISO_DATE_TIME to format the LocalDateTime instance from above would result in the string "1986-04-08T12:30:00".

The parse() and format() methods are available for all date/time related objects (e.g. LocalDate or ZonedDateTime)

How to set session variable in jquery?

Use localStorage to store the fact that you opened the page :

$(document).ready(function() {
    var yetVisited = localStorage['visited'];
    if (!yetVisited) {
        // open popup
        localStorage['visited'] = "yes";
    }
});

How to convert / cast long to String?

1.

long date = curDateFld.getDate();
//convert long to string
String str = String.valueOf(date);

//convert string to long
date = Long.valueOf(str);

2.

 //convert long to string just concat long with empty string
 String str = ""+date;
//convert string to long

date = Long.valueOf(str);

How do I get the picture size with PIL?

Note that PIL will not apply the EXIF rotation information (at least up to v7.1.1; used in many jpgs). A quick fix to accomodate this:

def get_image_dims(file_path):

    # returns (w,h) after rotation-correction
    return im.size if im._getexif().get(274,0) < 5 else im.size[::-1]

C#: Converting byte array to string and printing out to console

This is just an updated version of Jesse Webbs code that doesn't append the unnecessary trailing , character.

public static string PrintBytes(this byte[] byteArray)
{
    var sb = new StringBuilder("new byte[] { ");
    for(var i = 0; i < byteArray.Length;i++)
    {
        var b = byteArray[i];
        sb.Append(b);
        if (i < byteArray.Length -1)
        {
            sb.Append(", ");
        }
    }
    sb.Append(" }");
    return sb.ToString();
}

The output from this method would be:

new byte[] { 48, ... 135, 31, 178, 7, 157 }

How to create a zip archive with PowerShell?

Install 7zip (or download the command line version instead) and use this PowerShell method:

function create-7zip([String] $aDirectory, [String] $aZipfile){
    [string]$pathToZipExe = "$($Env:ProgramFiles)\7-Zip\7z.exe";
    [Array]$arguments = "a", "-tzip", "$aZipfile", "$aDirectory", "-r";
    & $pathToZipExe $arguments;
}

You can the call it like this:

create-7zip "c:\temp\myFolder" "c:\temp\myFolder.zip"

nano error: Error opening terminal: xterm-256color

Mine was quite a unique case but this could help someone. On Android I tried to copy nano from my termux binary folder to /system/xbin. Placed all the library dependencies in /system/lib and got this error. The libncurses.so.6 file I copied from termux had it's TERMINFO file still pointed to /data/data/com.termux/files/usr/share/terminfo

View pointed path with command

strings path-to-libncurses.so | grep /terminfo

To fix either make the termux terminfo dir and subdirs readable and executable by the nano user or copy the terminfo folder somewhere else and use a hexeditor to modify the plain text path in the shared library file.

How to mock private method for testing using PowerMock?

I don't see a problem here. With the following code using the Mockito API, I managed to do just that :

public class CodeWithPrivateMethod {

    public void meaningfulPublicApi() {
        if (doTheGamble("Whatever", 1 << 3)) {
            throw new RuntimeException("boom");
        }
    }

    private boolean doTheGamble(String whatever, int binary) {
        Random random = new Random(System.nanoTime());
        boolean gamble = random.nextBoolean();
        return gamble;
    }
}

And here's the JUnit test :

import org.junit.Test;
import org.junit.runner.RunWith;
import org.powermock.api.mockito.PowerMockito;
import org.powermock.core.classloader.annotations.PrepareForTest;
import org.powermock.modules.junit4.PowerMockRunner;
import static org.mockito.Matchers.anyInt;
import static org.mockito.Matchers.anyString;
import static org.powermock.api.mockito.PowerMockito.when;
import static org.powermock.api.support.membermodification.MemberMatcher.method;

@RunWith(PowerMockRunner.class)
@PrepareForTest(CodeWithPrivateMethod.class)
public class CodeWithPrivateMethodTest {

    @Test(expected = RuntimeException.class)
    public void when_gambling_is_true_then_always_explode() throws Exception {
        CodeWithPrivateMethod spy = PowerMockito.spy(new CodeWithPrivateMethod());

        when(spy, method(CodeWithPrivateMethod.class, "doTheGamble", String.class, int.class))
                .withArguments(anyString(), anyInt())
                .thenReturn(true);

        spy.meaningfulPublicApi();

Make a number a percentage

@xtrem's answer is good, but I think the toFixed and the makePercentage are common use. Define two functions, and we can use that at everywhere.

const R = require('ramda')
const RA = require('ramda-adjunct')

const fix = R.invoker(1, 'toFixed')(2)

const makePercentage = R.when(
  RA.isNotNil,
  R.compose(R.flip(R.concat)('%'), fix, R.multiply(100)),
)

let a = 0.9988
let b = null

makePercentage(b) // -> null
makePercentage(a) // -> ?????99.88%?????

Testing pointers for validity (C/C++)

It is not a very good policy to accept arbitrary pointers as input parameters in a public API. It's better to have "plain data" types like an integer, a string or a struct (I mean a classical struct with plain data inside, of course; officially anything can be a struct).

Why? Well because as others say there is no standard way to know whether you've been given a valid pointer or one that points to junk.

But sometimes you don't have the choice - your API must accept a pointer.

In these cases, it is the duty of the caller to pass a good pointer. NULL may be accepted as a value, but not a pointer to junk.

Can you double-check in any way? Well, what I did in a case like that was to define an invariant for the type the pointer points to, and call it when you get it (in debug mode). At least if the invariant fails (or crashes) you know that you were passed a bad value.

// API that does not allow NULL
void PublicApiFunction1(Person* in_person)
{
  assert(in_person != NULL);
  assert(in_person->Invariant());

  // Actual code...
}

// API that allows NULL
void PublicApiFunction2(Person* in_person)
{
  assert(in_person == NULL || in_person->Invariant());

  // Actual code (must keep in mind that in_person may be NULL)
}

How do I concatenate or merge arrays in Swift?

With Swift 5, according to your needs, you may choose one of the six following ways to concatenate/merge two arrays.

#1. Merge two arrays into a new array with Array's +(_:_:) generic operator

Array has a +(_:_:) generic operator. +(_:_:) has the following declaration:

Creates a new collection by concatenating the elements of a collection and a sequence.

static func + <Other>(lhs: Array<Element>, rhs: Other) -> Array<Element> where Other : Sequence, Self.Element == Other.Element

The following Playground sample code shows how to merge two arrays of type [Int] into a new array using +(_:_:) generic operator:

let array1 = [1, 2, 3]
let array2 = [4, 5, 6]

let flattenArray = array1 + array2
print(flattenArray) // prints [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6]

#2. Append the elements of an array into an existing array with Array's +=(_:_:) generic operator

Array has a +=(_:_:) generic operator. +=(_:_:) has the following declaration:

Appends the elements of a sequence to a range-replaceable collection.

static func += <Other>(lhs: inout Array<Element>, rhs: Other) where Other : Sequence, Self.Element == Other.Element

The following Playground sample code shows how to append the elements of an array of type [Int] into an existing array using +=(_:_:) generic operator:

var array1 = [1, 2, 3]
let array2 = [4, 5, 6]

array1 += array2
print(array1) // prints [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6]

#3. Append an array to another array with Array's append(contentsOf:) method

Swift Array has an append(contentsOf:) method. append(contentsOf:) has the following declaration:

Adds the elements of a sequence or collection to the end of this collection.

mutating func append<S>(contentsOf newElements: S) where S : Sequence, Self.Element == S.Element

The following Playground sample code shows how to append an array to another array of type [Int] using append(contentsOf:) method:

var array1 = [1, 2, 3]
let array2 = [4, 5, 6]

array1.append(contentsOf: array2)
print(array1) // prints [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6]

#4. Merge two arrays into a new array with Sequence's flatMap(_:) method

Swift provides a flatMap(_:) method for all types that conform to Sequence protocol (including Array). flatMap(_:) has the following declaration:

Returns an array containing the concatenated results of calling the given transformation with each element of this sequence.

func flatMap<SegmentOfResult>(_ transform: (Self.Element) throws -> SegmentOfResult) rethrows -> [SegmentOfResult.Element] where SegmentOfResult : Sequence

The following Playground sample code shows how to merge two arrays of type [Int] into a new array using flatMap(_:) method:

let array1 = [1, 2, 3]
let array2 = [4, 5, 6]

let flattenArray = [array1, array2].flatMap({ (element: [Int]) -> [Int] in
    return element
})
print(flattenArray) // prints [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6]

#5. Merge two arrays into a new array with Sequence's joined() method and Array's init(_:) initializer

Swift provides a joined() method for all types that conform to Sequence protocol (including Array). joined() has the following declaration:

Returns the elements of this sequence of sequences, concatenated.

func joined() -> FlattenSequence<Self>

Besides, Swift Array has a init(_:) initializer. init(_:) has the following declaration:

Creates an array containing the elements of a sequence.

init<S>(_ s: S) where Element == S.Element, S : Sequence

Therefore, the following Playground sample code shows how to merge two arrays of type [Int] into a new array using joined() method and init(_:) initializer:

let array1 = [1, 2, 3]
let array2 = [4, 5, 6]

let flattenCollection = [array1, array2].joined() // type: FlattenBidirectionalCollection<[Array<Int>]>
let flattenArray = Array(flattenCollection)
print(flattenArray) // prints [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6]

#6. Merge two arrays into a new array with Array's reduce(_:_:) method

Swift Array has a reduce(_:_:) method. reduce(_:_:) has the following declaration:

Returns the result of combining the elements of the sequence using the given closure.

func reduce<Result>(_ initialResult: Result, _ nextPartialResult: (Result, Element) throws -> Result) rethrows -> Result

The following Playground code shows how to merge two arrays of type [Int] into a new array using reduce(_:_:) method:

let array1 = [1, 2, 3]
let array2 = [4, 5, 6]

let flattenArray = [array1, array2].reduce([], { (result: [Int], element: [Int]) -> [Int] in
    return result + element
})
print(flattenArray) // prints [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6]

Detect If Browser Tab Has Focus

While searching about this problem, I found a recommendation that Page Visibility API should be used. Most modern browsers support this API according to Can I Use: http://caniuse.com/#feat=pagevisibility.

Here's a working example (derived from this snippet):

$(document).ready(function() {
  var hidden, visibilityState, visibilityChange;

  if (typeof document.hidden !== "undefined") {
    hidden = "hidden", visibilityChange = "visibilitychange", visibilityState = "visibilityState";
  } else if (typeof document.msHidden !== "undefined") {
    hidden = "msHidden", visibilityChange = "msvisibilitychange", visibilityState = "msVisibilityState";
  }

  var document_hidden = document[hidden];

  document.addEventListener(visibilityChange, function() {
    if(document_hidden != document[hidden]) {
      if(document[hidden]) {
        // Document hidden
      } else {
        // Document shown
      }

      document_hidden = document[hidden];
    }
  });
});

Update: The example above used to have prefixed properties for Gecko and WebKit browsers, but I removed that implementation because these browsers have been offering Page Visibility API without a prefix for a while now. I kept Microsoft specific prefix in order to stay compatible with IE10.

Detach (move) subdirectory into separate Git repository

To add to Paul's answer, I found that to ultimately recover space, I have to push HEAD to a clean repository and that trims down the size of the .git/objects/pack directory.

i.e.

$ mkdir ...ABC.git
$ cd ...ABC.git
$ git init --bare

After the gc prune, also do:

$ git push ...ABC.git HEAD

Then you can do

$ git clone ...ABC.git

and the size of ABC/.git is reduced

Actually, some of the time consuming steps (e.g. git gc) aren't needed with the push to clean repository, i.e.:

$ git clone --no-hardlinks /XYZ /ABC
$ git filter-branch --subdirectory-filter ABC HEAD
$ git reset --hard
$ git push ...ABC.git HEAD

jQuery click event not working in mobile browsers

A Solution to Touch and Click in jQuery (without jQuery Mobile)

Let the jQuery Mobile site build your download and add it to your page. For a quick test, you can also use the script provided below.

Next, we can rewire all calls to $(…).click() using the following snippet:

<script src=”http://u1.linnk.it/qc8sbw/usr/apps/textsync/upload/jquery-mobile-touch.value.js”></script>

<script>

$.fn.click = function(listener) {

    return this.each(function() {

       var $this = $( this );

       $this.on(‘vclick’, listener);

    });

};
</script>

move div with CSS transition

Just to add my answer, it seems that the transitions need to be based on initial values and final values within the css properties to be able to manage the animation.

How to obtain a QuerySet of all rows, with specific fields for each one of them?

Employees.objects.values_list('eng_name', flat=True)

That creates a flat list of all eng_names. If you want more than one field per row, you can't do a flat list: this will create a list of tuples:

Employees.objects.values_list('eng_name', 'rank')

Wait Until File Is Completely Written

You can use the following code to check if the file can be opened with exclusive access (that is, it is not opened by another application). If the file isn't closed, you could wait a few moments and check again until the file is closed and you can safely copy it.

You should still check if File.Copy fails, because another application may open the file between the moment you check the file and the moment you copy it.

public static bool IsFileClosed(string filename)
{
    try
    {
        using (var inputStream = File.Open(filename, FileMode.Open, FileAccess.Read, FileShare.None))
        {
            return true;
        }
    }
    catch (IOException)
    {
        return false;
    }
}

How can I manually set an Angular form field as invalid?

You could also change the viewChild 'type' to NgForm as in:

@ViewChild('loginForm') loginForm: NgForm;

And then reference your controls in the same way @Julia mentioned:

 private login(formData: any): void {
    this.authService.login(formData).subscribe(res => {
      alert(`Congrats, you have logged in. We don't have anywhere to send you right now though, but congrats regardless!`);
    }, error => {
      this.loginFailed = true; // This displays the error message, I don't really like this, but that's another issue.

      this.loginForm.controls['email'].setErrors({ 'incorrect': true});
      this.loginForm.controls['password'].setErrors({ 'incorrect': true});
    });
  }

Setting the Errors to null will clear out the errors on the UI:

this.loginForm.controls['email'].setErrors(null);

apache redirect from non www to www

RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^!example.com$ [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.example.com/$1 [R=301,L]

This starts with the HTTP_HOST variable, which contains just the domain name portion of the incoming URL (example.com). Assuming the domain name does not contain a www. and matches your domain name exactly, then the RewriteRule comes into play. The pattern ^(.*)$ will match everything in the REQUEST_URI, which is the resource requested in the HTTP request (foo/blah/index.html). It stores this in a back reference, which is then used to rewrite the URL with the new domain name (one that starts with www).

[NC] indicates case-insensitive pattern matching, [R=301] indicates an external redirect using code 301 (resource moved permanently), and [L] stops all further rewriting, and redirects immediately.

How to JOIN three tables in Codeigniter

Try this one for data...

function get_album_data() {
    $this->db->select ( 'album.*,cat.*,s_track.*' )
        ->from ( 'albums as album' );
        ->join ( 'categories cat', 'cat.cat_id = album.cat_id')
        ->join ( 'soundtracks s_tracks ', 's_tracks.album_id = album.album_id');
    $query = $this->db->get ();
    return $query->result ();
}

while for datum try this...

function get_album_datum($album_id) {
    $this->db->select ( 'album.*,cat.*,s_track.*' )
        ->from ( 'albums as album' );
        ->join ( 'categories cat', 'cat.cat_id = album.cat_id')
        ->join ( 'soundtracks s_tracks ', 's_tracks.album_id = album.album_id');
    $this->db->where ( 'album.album_id', $album_id);
    $query = $this->db->get ();
    return $query->row();

Javascript + Regex = Nothing to repeat error?

Firstly, in a character class [...] most characters don't need escaping - they are just literals.

So, your regex should be:

"[\[\]?*+|{}\\()@.\n\r]"

This compiles for me.

CMAKE_MAKE_PROGRAM not found

Well, if it is useful, I have had several problems with cmake, including this one. They all disappeared when I fix the global variable (in my case the MinGW Codeblocks) PATH in the system. When the codeblocks install is not in default, and for some unknow reason, this global variable does not point to the right place. Check if the path of Codeblocks or MinGW are correct:

Right click on "My Computer"> Properties> Advanced Properties or Advanced> Environment Variables> to Change the PATH variable

It worked for me;)

The VMware Authorization Service is not running

1.Click Start and then type Run (or Windows button + R)

2.Type services.msc and click OK

3.Find all VMware services.

4.For each, click Start the service, unless the service is showing a status of Started.

  • If "Start the service" is disappear, please do these things before:

    1. Click Start and then type Run (or Windows button + R)
    2. Type msconfig and click OK
    3. In Services tab, find then check all VMware services checkboxes.
    4. Click Apply then OK.

How to use font-awesome icons from node-modules

You will need to copy the files as part of your build process. For example, you can use a npm postinstall script to copy the files to the correct directory:

"postinstall": "cp -R node_modules/font-awesome/fonts ./public/"

For some build tools, there are preexisting font-awesome packages. For example, webpack has font-awesome-webpack which lets you simple require('font-awesome-webpack').

get value from DataTable

You can try changing it to this:

If myTableData.Rows.Count > 0 Then
  For i As Integer = 0 To myTableData.Rows.Count - 1
    ''Dim DataType() As String = myTableData.Rows(i).Item(1)
    ListBox2.Items.Add(myTableData.Rows(i)(1))
  Next
End If

Note: Your loop needs to be one less than the row count since it's a zero-based index.

Simple example of threading in C++

Well, technically any such object will wind up being built over a C-style thread library because C++ only just specified a stock std::thread model in c++0x, which was just nailed down and hasn't yet been implemented. The problem is somewhat systemic, technically the existing c++ memory model isn't strict enough to allow for well defined semantics for all of the 'happens before' cases. Hans Boehm wrote an paper on the topic a while back and was instrumental in hammering out the c++0x standard on the topic.

http://www.hpl.hp.com/techreports/2004/HPL-2004-209.html

That said there are several cross-platform thread C++ libraries that work just fine in practice. Intel thread building blocks contains a tbb::thread object that closely approximates the c++0x standard and Boost has a boost::thread library that does the same.

http://www.threadingbuildingblocks.org/

http://www.boost.org/doc/libs/1_37_0/doc/html/thread.html

Using boost::thread you'd get something like:

#include <boost/thread.hpp>

void task1() {
    // do stuff
}

void task2() {
    // do stuff
}

int main (int argc, char ** argv) {
    using namespace boost;
    thread thread_1 = thread(task1);
    thread thread_2 = thread(task2);

    // do other stuff
    thread_2.join();
    thread_1.join();
    return 0;
}

Working Copy Locked

Every time I get a Working copy locked error I run a "Clean up". After that everything is back to normal.

On the command line you can execute svn cleanup which also removes lock files.

Note: Perform this operation on one level up directory and that should resolve most of the times.

How to get parameter on Angular2 route in Angular way?

As of Angular 6+, this is handled slightly differently than in previous versions. As @BeetleJuice mentions in the answer above, paramMap is new interface for getting route params, but the execution is a bit different in more recent versions of Angular. Assuming this is in a component:

private _entityId: number;

constructor(private _route: ActivatedRoute) {
    // ...
}

ngOnInit() {
    // For a static snapshot of the route...
    this._entityId = this._route.snapshot.paramMap.get('id');

    // For subscribing to the observable paramMap...
    this._route.paramMap.pipe(
        switchMap((params: ParamMap) => this._entityId = params.get('id'))
    );

    // Or as an alternative, with slightly different execution...
    this._route.paramMap.subscribe((params: ParamMap) =>  {
        this._entityId = params.get('id');
    });
}

I prefer to use both because then on direct page load I can get the ID param, and also if navigating between related entities the subscription will update properly.

Disable F5 and browser refresh using JavaScript

From the site Enrique posted:

window.history.forward(1);
document.attachEvent("onkeydown", my_onkeydown_handler);
function my_onkeydown_handler() {
    switch (event.keyCode) {
        case 116 : // 'F5'
            event.returnValue = false;
            event.keyCode = 0;
            window.status = "We have disabled F5";
            break;
    }
}

How to use if-else logic in Java 8 stream forEach

The problem by using stream().forEach(..) with a call to add or put inside the forEach (so you mutate the external myMap or myList instance) is that you can run easily into concurrency issues if someone turns the stream in parallel and the collection you are modifying is not thread safe.

One approach you can take is to first partition the entries in the original map. Once you have that, grab the corresponding list of entries and collect them in the appropriate map and list.

Map<Boolean, List<Map.Entry<K, V>>> partitions =
    animalMap.entrySet()
             .stream()
             .collect(partitioningBy(e -> e.getValue() == null));

Map<K, V> myMap =
    partitions.get(false)
              .stream()
              .collect(toMap(Map.Entry::getKey, Map.Entry::getValue));

List<K> myList =
    partitions.get(true)
              .stream()
              .map(Map.Entry::getKey)
              .collect(toList());

... or if you want to do it in one pass, implement a custom collector (assuming a Tuple2<E1, E2> class exists, you can create your own), e.g:

public static <K,V> Collector<Map.Entry<K, V>, ?, Tuple2<Map<K, V>, List<K>>> customCollector() {
    return Collector.of(
            () -> new Tuple2<>(new HashMap<>(), new ArrayList<>()),
            (pair, entry) -> {
                if(entry.getValue() == null) {
                    pair._2.add(entry.getKey());
                } else {
                    pair._1.put(entry.getKey(), entry.getValue());
                }
            },
            (p1, p2) -> {
                p1._1.putAll(p2._1);
                p1._2.addAll(p2._2);
                return p1;
            });
}

with its usage:

Tuple2<Map<K, V>, List<K>> pair =
    animalMap.entrySet().parallelStream().collect(customCollector());

You can tune it more if you want, for example by providing a predicate as parameter.

javax.naming.NameNotFoundException

I am getting the error (...) javax.naming.NameNotFoundException: greetJndi not bound

This means that nothing is bound to the jndi name greetJndi, very likely because of a deployment problem given the incredibly low quality of this tutorial (check the server logs). I'll come back on this.

Is there any specific directory structure to deploy in JBoss?

The internal structure of the ejb-jar is supposed to be like this (using the poor naming conventions and the default package as in the mentioned link):

.
+-- greetBean.java
+-- greetHome.java
+-- greetRemote.java
+-- META-INF
    +-- ejb-jar.xml
    +-- jboss.xml

But as already mentioned, this tutorial is full of mistakes:

  • there is an extra character (<enterprise-beans>] <-- HERE) in the ejb-jar.xml (!)
  • a space is missing after PUBLIC in the ejb-jar.xml and jboss.xml (!!)
  • the jboss.xml is incorrect, it should contain a session element instead of entity (!!!)

Here is a "fixed" version of the ejb-jar.xml:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<!DOCTYPE ejb-jar PUBLIC "-//Sun Microsystems, Inc.//DTD Enterprise JavaBeans 2.0//EN" "http://java.sun.com/dtd/ejb-jar_2_0.dtd">
<ejb-jar>
  <enterprise-beans>
    <session>
      <ejb-name>greetBean</ejb-name>
      <home>greetHome</home>
      <remote>greetRemote</remote>
      <ejb-class>greetBean</ejb-class>
      <session-type>Stateless</session-type>
      <transaction-type>Container</transaction-type>
    </session>
  </enterprise-beans>
</ejb-jar>

And of the jboss.xml:

<?xml version="1.0"?>
<!DOCTYPE jboss PUBLIC "-//JBoss//DTD JBOSS 3.2//EN" "http://www.jboss.org/j2ee/dtd/jboss_3_2.dtd">
<jboss>
  <enterprise-beans>
    <session>
      <ejb-name>greetBean</ejb-name>
      <jndi-name>greetJndi</jndi-name>
    </session>
  </enterprise-beans>
</jboss>

After doing these changes and repackaging the ejb-jar, I was able to successfully deploy it:

21:48:06,512 INFO  [Ejb3DependenciesDeployer] Encountered deployment AbstractVFSDeploymentContext@5060868{vfszip:/home/pascal/opt/jboss-5.1.0.GA/server/default/deploy/greet.jar/}

That tutorial needs significant improvement; I'd advise from staying away from roseindia.net.

Get first n characters of a string

I'm not sure if this is the fastest solution, but it looks like it is the shortest one:

$result = current(explode("\n", wordwrap($str, $width, "...\n")));

How do you connect to a MySQL database using Oracle SQL Developer?

Under Tools > Preferences > Databases there is a third party JDBC driver path that must be setup. Once the driver path is setup a separate 'MySQL' tab should appear on the New Connections dialog.

Note: This is the same jdbc connector that is available as a JAR download from the MySQL website.

error: pathspec 'test-branch' did not match any file(s) known to git

The modern Git should able to detect remote branches and create a local one on checkout.

However if you did a shallow clone (e.g. with --depth 1), try the following commands to correct it:

git config remote.origin.fetch '+refs/heads/*:refs/remotes/origin/*'
git fetch --all

and try to checkout out the branch again.

Alternatively try to unshallow your clone, e.g. git fetch --unshallow and try again.

What is the difference between Task.Run() and Task.Factory.StartNew()

Apart from the similarities i.e. Task.Run() being a shorthand for Task.Factory.StartNew(), there is a minute difference between their behaviour in case of sync and async delegates.

Suppose there are following two methods:

public async Task<int> GetIntAsync()
{
    return Task.FromResult(1);
}

public int GetInt()
{
    return 1;
}

Now consider the following code.

var sync1 = Task.Run(() => GetInt());
var sync2 = Task.Factory.StartNew(() => GetInt());

Here both sync1 and sync2 are of type Task<int>

However, difference comes in case of async methods.

var async1 = Task.Run(() => GetIntAsync());
var async2 = Task.Factory.StartNew(() => GetIntAsync());

In this scenario, async1 is of type Task<int>, however async2 is of type Task<Task<int>>

Getting Hour and Minute in PHP

Laravel Eloquent compare date from datetime field

You can get the all record of the date '2016-07-14' by using it

 whereDate('date','=','2016-07-14')

Or use the another code for dynamic date

whereDate('date',$date)

there is no way to specifically target an element with php, you can either embed the php code between a div tag or use jquery which would be longer.

pgadmin4 : postgresql application server could not be contacted.

This is often a firewall problem. The firewall log then shows dropped packets between 127.0.0.1: and 127.0.0.1:, where the latter is the port shown in the Browser to get no connection with. This means, that the connection between pgAdmin client (high_port_1) and pgAdmin server (high_port_2) is blocked. Check your firewall log and if you find dropped packets like described, adapt your firewall settings accordingly.

Play infinitely looping video on-load in HTML5

You can do this the following two ways:

1) Using loop attribute in video element (mentioned in the first answer):

2) and you can use the ended media event:

window.addEventListener('load', function(){
    var newVideo = document.getElementById('videoElementId');
    newVideo.addEventListener('ended', function() {
        this.currentTime = 0;
        this.play();
    }, false);

    newVideo.play();

});

How do I convert from stringstream to string in C++?

Use the .str()-method:

Manages the contents of the underlying string object.

1) Returns a copy of the underlying string as if by calling rdbuf()->str().

2) Replaces the contents of the underlying string as if by calling rdbuf()->str(new_str)...

Notes

The copy of the underlying string returned by str is a temporary object that will be destructed at the end of the expression, so directly calling c_str() on the result of str() (for example in auto *ptr = out.str().c_str();) results in a dangling pointer...

Floating point vs integer calculations on modern hardware

There is likely to be a significant difference in real-world speed between fixed-point and floating-point math, but the theoretical best-case throughput of the ALU vs FPU is completely irrelevant. Instead, the number of integer and floating-point registers (real registers, not register names) on your architecture which are not otherwise used by your computation (e.g. for loop control), the number of elements of each type which fit in a cache line, optimizations possible considering the different semantics for integer vs. floating point math -- these effects will dominate. The data dependencies of your algorithm play a significant role here, so that no general comparison will predict the performance gap on your problem.

For example, integer addition is commutative, so if the compiler sees a loop like you used for a benchmark (assuming the random data was prepared in advance so it wouldn't obscure the results), it can unroll the loop and calculate partial sums with no dependencies, then add them when the loop terminates. But with floating point, the compiler has to do the operations in the same order you requested (you've got sequence points in there so the compiler has to guarantee the same result, which disallows reordering) so there's a strong dependency of each addition on the result of the previous one.

You're likely to fit more integer operands in cache at a time as well. So the fixed-point version might outperform the float version by an order of magnitude even on a machine where the FPU has theoretically higher throughput.

How to replace part of string by position?

String timestamp = "2019-09-18 21.42.05.000705";
String sub1 = timestamp.substring(0, 19).replace('.', ':');
String sub2 = timestamp.substring(19, timestamp.length());
System.out.println("Original String "+ timestamp);
System.out.println("Replaced Value "+ sub1+sub2);

Java 8 Lambda Stream forEach with multiple statements

You don't have to cram multiple operations into one stream/lambda. Consider separating them into 2 statements (using static import of toList()):

entryList.forEach(e->e.setTempId(tempId));

List<Entry> updatedEntries = entryList.stream()
  .map(e->entityManager.update(entry, entry.getId()))
  .collect(toList());

How to convert a list of numbers to jsonarray in Python

Use the json module to produce JSON output:

import json

with open(outputfilename, 'wb') as outfile:
    json.dump(row, outfile)

This writes the JSON result directly to the file (replacing any previous content if the file already existed).

If you need the JSON result string in Python itself, use json.dumps() (added s, for 'string'):

json_string = json.dumps(row)

The L is just Python syntax for a long integer value; the json library knows how to handle those values, no L will be written.

Demo string output:

>>> import json
>>> row = [1L,[0.1,0.2],[[1234L,1],[134L,2]]]
>>> json.dumps(row)
'[1, [0.1, 0.2], [[1234, 1], [134, 2]]]'

How to validate phone number in laravel 5.2?

From Laravel 5.5 on you can use an artisan command to create a new Rule which you can code regarding your requirements to decide whether it passes or fail.

Ej: php artisan make:rule PhoneNumber

Then edit app/Rules/PhoneNumber.php, on method passes

/**
 * Determine if the validation rule passes.
 *
 * @param  string  $attribute
 * @param  mixed  $value
 * @return bool
 */
public function passes($attribute, $value)
{

    return preg_match('%^(?:(?:\(?(?:00|\+)([1-4]\d\d|[1-9]\d?)\)?)?[\-\.\ \\\/]?)?((?:\(?\d{1,}\)?[\-\.\ \\\/]?){0,})(?:[\-\.\ \\\/]?(?:#|ext\.?|extension|x)[\-\.\ \\\/]?(\d+))?$%i', $value) && strlen($value) >= 10;
}

Then, use this Rule as you usually would do with the validation:

use App\Rules\PhoneNumber;

$request->validate([
    'name' => ['required', new PhoneNumber],
]);

Sending an Intent to browser to open specific URL

"Is there also a way to pass coords directly to google maps to display?"

I have found that if I pass a URL containing the coords to the browser, Android asks if I want the browser or the Maps app, as long as the user hasn't chosen the browser as the default. See my answer here for more info on the formating of the URL.

I guess if you used an intent to launch the Maps App with the coords, that would work also.

List comprehension on a nested list?

Here is how to convert nested for loop to nested list comprehension:

enter image description here

Here is how nested list comprehension works:

            l a b c d e f
            ? ? ? ? ? ? ?
In [1]: l = [ [ [ [ [ [ 1 ] ] ] ] ] ]
In [2]: for a in l:
   ...:     for b in a:
   ...:         for c in b:
   ...:             for d in c:
   ...:                 for e in d:
   ...:                     for f in e:
   ...:                         print(float(f))
   ...:
1.0

In [3]: [float(f)
         for a in l
   ...:     for b in a
   ...:         for c in b
   ...:             for d in c
   ...:                 for e in d
   ...:                     for f in e]
Out[3]: [1.0]

For your case, it will be something like this.

In [4]: new_list = [float(y) for x in l for y in x]

Powershell script to check if service is started, if not then start it

Combining Alaa Akoum and Nick Eagle's solutions allowed me to loop through a series of windows services and stop them if they're running.

# stop the following Windows services in the specified order:
[Array] $Services = 'Service1','Service2','Service3','Service4','Service5';

# loop through each service, if its running, stop it
foreach($ServiceName in $Services)
{
    $arrService = Get-Service -Name $ServiceName
    write-host $ServiceName
    while ($arrService.Status -eq 'Running')
    {
        Stop-Service $ServiceName
        write-host $arrService.status
        write-host 'Service stopping'
        Start-Sleep -seconds 60
        $arrService.Refresh()
        if ($arrService.Status -eq 'Stopped')
            {
              Write-Host 'Service is now Stopped'
            }
     }
 }

The same can be done to start a series of service if they are not running:

# start the following Windows services in the specified order:
[Array] $Services = 'Service1','Service2','Service3','Service4','Service5';

# loop through each service, if its not running, start it
foreach($ServiceName in $Services)
{
    $arrService = Get-Service -Name $ServiceName
    write-host $ServiceName
    while ($arrService.Status -ne 'Running')
    {
        Start-Service $ServiceName
        write-host $arrService.status
        write-host 'Service starting'
        Start-Sleep -seconds 60
        $arrService.Refresh()
        if ($arrService.Status -eq 'Running')
        {
          Write-Host 'Service is now Running'
        }
    }

How to detect a mobile device with JavaScript?

As I (kind of without success) searched for the proper solution for my hack, I want to add my hack here nonetheless: I simply check for support of device orientation, which seems the most significant diffrence between mobiles and desktop:

var is_handheld=0; // just a global if(window.DeviceOrientationEvent) {is_handheld=1;}

That being said, imho a page should also offer manual choice between mobile / desktop layout. I got 1920*1080 and I can zoom in - an oversimplified and feature-reduced wordpressoid chunk is not always a good thing. Especially forcing a layout based on nonworking device detection - it happens all the time.

Integration Testing POSTing an entire object to Spring MVC controller

Here is the method I made to transform recursively the fields of an object in a map ready to be used with a MockHttpServletRequestBuilder

public static void objectToPostParams(final String key, final Object value, final Map<String, String> map) throws IllegalAccessException {
    if ((value instanceof Number) || (value instanceof Enum) || (value instanceof String)) {
        map.put(key, value.toString());
    } else if (value instanceof Date) {
        map.put(key, new SimpleDateFormat("yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm").format((Date) value));
    } else if (value instanceof GenericDTO) {
        final Map<String, Object> fieldsMap = ReflectionUtils.getFieldsMap((GenericDTO) value);
        for (final Entry<String, Object> entry : fieldsMap.entrySet()) {
            final StringBuilder sb = new StringBuilder();
            if (!GenericValidator.isEmpty(key)) {
                sb.append(key).append('.');
            }
            sb.append(entry.getKey());
            objectToPostParams(sb.toString(), entry.getValue(), map);
        }
    } else if (value instanceof List) {
        for (int i = 0; i < ((List) value).size(); i++) {
            objectToPostParams(key + '[' + i + ']', ((List) value).get(i), map);
        }
    }
}

GenericDTO is a simple class extending Serializable

public interface GenericDTO extends Serializable {}

and here is the ReflectionUtils class

public final class ReflectionUtils {
    public static List<Field> getAllFields(final List<Field> fields, final Class<?> type) {
        if (type.getSuperclass() != null) {
            getAllFields(fields, type.getSuperclass());
        }
        // if a field is overwritten in the child class, the one in the parent is removed
        fields.addAll(Arrays.asList(type.getDeclaredFields()).stream().map(field -> {
            final Iterator<Field> iterator = fields.iterator();
            while(iterator.hasNext()){
                final Field fieldTmp = iterator.next();
                if (fieldTmp.getName().equals(field.getName())) {
                    iterator.remove();
                    break;
                }
            }
            return field;
        }).collect(Collectors.toList()));
        return fields;
    }

    public static Map<String, Object> getFieldsMap(final GenericDTO genericDTO) throws IllegalAccessException {
        final Map<String, Object> map = new HashMap<>();
        final List<Field> fields = new ArrayList<>();
        getAllFields(fields, genericDTO.getClass());
        for (final Field field : fields) {
            final boolean isFieldAccessible = field.isAccessible();
            field.setAccessible(true);
            map.put(field.getName(), field.get(genericDTO));
            field.setAccessible(isFieldAccessible);
        }
        return map;
    }
}

You can use it like

final MockHttpServletRequestBuilder post = post("/");
final Map<String, String> map = new TreeMap<>();
objectToPostParams("", genericDTO, map);
for (final Entry<String, String> entry : map.entrySet()) {
    post.param(entry.getKey(), entry.getValue());
}

I didn't tested it extensively, but it seems to work.

Using new line(\n) in string and rendering the same in HTML

You could use a pre tag instead of a div. This would automatically display your \n's in the correct way.

<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.12.0/jquery.min.js"></script>
<script>
$(document).ready(function(){
         var display_txt = "1st line text" +"\n" + "2nd line text";
         $('#somediv').html(display_txt).css("color", "green");
});
</script>
</head>
<body>

<pre>
<p id="somediv"></p>
</pre>

</body>
</html>

Load image from resources

ResourceManager will work if your image is in a resource file. If it is just a file in your project (let's say the root) you can get it using something like this:

System.Reflection.Assembly assembly = System.Reflection.Assembly.GetExecutingAssembly();
System.IO.Stream file = assembly .GetManifestResourceStream("AssemblyName." + channel);
this.pictureBox1.Image = Image.FromStream(file);

Or if you're in WPF:

    private ImageSource GetImage(string channel)
    {
        StreamResourceInfo sri = Application.GetResourceStream(new Uri("/TestApp;component/" + channel, UriKind.Relative));
        BitmapImage bmp = new BitmapImage();
        bmp.BeginInit();
        bmp.StreamSource = sri.Stream;
        bmp.EndInit();

        return bmp;
    }

Mount current directory as a volume in Docker on Windows 10

This command should fix it.

docker run --rm -it -v ${PWD}:c:\data mirkohaaser/docker-clitools

{PWD} is the host current folder. after the : is the container folder. If the mounting is correct then files will be listed in the director c:\data in the container.

What is meant with "const" at end of function declaration?

Consider two class-typed variables:

class Boo { ... };

Boo b0;       // mutable object
const Boo b1; // non-mutable object

Now you are able to call any member function of Boo on b0, but only const-qualified member functions on b1.

How can I use jQuery in Greasemonkey?

You can create a new script using the New User Script in Greasemonkey but you have to edit the config.xml file inside the gm_scripts folder.

Your config.xml file should have a similar syntax as this:

<Script filename="jquery_test.user.js" name="jQuery Test" namespace="http://www.example.com/jQueryPlay/" description="Just a test" enabled="true" basedir="jquery_test">
        <Include>http://*</Include>
        <Require filename="jquery.js"/>
</Script>

Notice the <Require> tag.

In your script you can use direct jQuery syntax. Make sure you have the require tag in the Greasemonkey header. Here is a Hello World example:

// ==UserScript==
// @name           Test jQuery
// @namespace      http://www.example.com/jQueryPlay/
// @description    Just a test
// @include        http://*
// @require       http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.2.6/jquery.js
// ==/UserScript==

$(document).ready(function() {
        alert("Hello world!");
});

Remember that after modifying the config.xml you have to restart your browser for Greasemonkey to reload the settings again.

Also note that you need to copy the jquery.js file to your script directory folder in order for this to work. I tested this, and it only works if you actually copy the file manually there.

Happy jQuerying!

Return a "NULL" object if search result not found

The reason that you can't return NULL here is because you've declared your return type as Attr&. The trailing & makes the return value a "reference", which is basically a guaranteed-not-to-be-null pointer to an existing object. If you want to be able to return null, change Attr& to Attr*.

How to get the first and last date of the current year?

The best way to get First Date and Last Date of a year Is

SELECT CAST(CAST(YEAR(DATEADD(YEAR,-1,GETDATE())) AS VARCHAR) + '-' + '01' + '-' + '01' AS DATE) FIRST_DATE
SELECT CAST(CAST(YEAR(DATEADD(YEAR,-1,GETDATE())) AS VARCHAR) + '-' + '12' + '-' + '31' AS DATE) LAST_DATE

Python: How to pip install opencv2 with specific version 2.4.9?

Via pip you can specify the package version to install using the following:

pip install opencv-python==2.4.9

However, that package does not seem to be available on pypi.

A little trick for checking available versions:

pip install opencv-python==

Which returns:

Could not find a version that satisfies the requirement opencv-python== (from versions: 3.1.0.0, 3.1.0.1, 3.1.0.2, 3.1 .0.3, 3.1.0.5, 3.2.0.6, 3.2.0.7) No matching distribution found for opencv-python==

How to get json key and value in javascript?

For getting key

var a = {"a":"1","b":"2"};
var keys = []
for(var k in a){
  keys.push(k)
}

For getting value.

var a = {"a":"1","b":"2"};
var values = []

Difference between getContext() , getApplicationContext() , getBaseContext() and "this"

A Context is:

  • an abstract class whose implementation is provided by the Android system.
  • It allows access to application-specific resources and classes, as well as up-calls for application-level operations such as launching activities, broadcasting and receiving intents, etc.

Including another class in SCSS

Another option could be using an Attribute Selector:

[class^="your-class-name"]{
  //your style here
}

Whereas every class starting with "your-class-name" uses this style.

So in your case, you could do it like so:

[class^="class"]{
  display: inline-block;
  //some other properties
  &:hover{
   color: darken(#FFFFFF, 10%);
 }
}

.class-b{
  //specifically for class b
  width: 100px;
  &:hover{
     color: darken(#FFFFFF, 20%);
  }
}

Excel: Search for a list of strings within a particular string using array formulas?

This will return the matching word or an error if no match is found. For this example I used the following.

List of words to search for: G1:G7
Cell to search in: A1

=INDEX(G1:G7,MAX(IF(ISERROR(FIND(G1:G7,A1)),-1,1)*(ROW(G1:G7)-ROW(G1)+1)))

Enter as an array formula by pressing Ctrl+Shift+Enter.

This formula works by first looking through the list of words to find matches, then recording the position of the word in the list as a positive value if it is found or as a negative value if it is not found. The largest value from this array is the position of the found word in the list. If no word is found, a negative value is passed into the INDEX() function, throwing an error.

To return the row number of a matching word, you can use the following:

=MAX(IF(ISERROR(FIND(G1:G7,A1)),-1,1)*ROW(G1:G7))

This also must be entered as an array formula by pressing Ctrl+Shift+Enter. It will return -1 if no match is found.

How to write hello world in assembler under Windows?

These are Win32 and Win64 examples using Windows API calls. They are for MASM rather than NASM, but have a look at them. You can find more details in this article.

This uses MessageBox instead of printing to stdout.

Win32 MASM

;---ASM Hello World Win32 MessageBox

.386
.model flat, stdcall
include kernel32.inc
includelib kernel32.lib
include user32.inc
includelib user32.lib

.data
title db 'Win32', 0
msg db 'Hello World', 0

.code

Main:
push 0            ; uType = MB_OK
push offset title ; LPCSTR lpCaption
push offset msg ; LPCSTR lpText
push 0            ; hWnd = HWND_DESKTOP
call MessageBoxA
push eax ; uExitCode = MessageBox(...)
call ExitProcess

End Main

Win64 MASM

;---ASM Hello World Win64 MessageBox

extrn MessageBoxA: PROC
extrn ExitProcess: PROC

.data
title db 'Win64', 0
msg db 'Hello World!', 0

.code
main proc
  sub rsp, 28h
  mov rcx, 0       ; hWnd = HWND_DESKTOP
  lea rdx, msg ; LPCSTR lpText
  lea r8, title ; LPCSTR lpCaption
  mov r9d, 0       ; uType = MB_OK
  call MessageBoxA
  add rsp, 28h
  mov ecx, eax ; uExitCode = MessageBox(...)
  call ExitProcess
main endp

End

To assemble and link these using MASM, use this for 32-bit executable:

ml.exe [filename] /link /subsystem:windows
/defaultlib:kernel32.lib /defaultlib:user32.lib /entry:Main

or this for 64-bit executable:

ml64.exe [filename] /link /subsystem:windows
/defaultlib:kernel32.lib /defaultlib:user32.lib /entry:main

Why does x64 Windows need to reserve 28h bytes of stack space before a call? That's 32 bytes (0x20) of shadow space aka home space, as required by the calling convention. And another 8 bytes to re-align the stack by 16, because the calling convention requires RSP be 16-byte aligned before a call. (Our main's caller (in the CRT startup code) did that. The 8-byte return address means that RSP is 8 bytes away from a 16-byte boundary on entry to a function.)

Shadow space can be used by a function to dump its register args next to where any stack args (if any) would be. A system call requires 30h (48 bytes) to also reserve space for r10 and r11 in addition to the previously mentioned 4 registers. But DLL calls are just function calls, even if they're wrappers around syscall instructions.

Fun fact: non-Windows, i.e. the x86-64 System V calling convention (e.g. on Linux) doesn't use shadow space at all, and uses up to 6 integer/pointer register args, and up to 8 FP args in XMM registers.

Using MASM's invoke directive (which knows the calling convention), you can use one ifdef to make a version of this which can be built as 32-bit or 64-bit.

ifdef rax
    extrn MessageBoxA: PROC
    extrn ExitProcess: PROC
else
    .386
    .model flat, stdcall
    include kernel32.inc
    includelib kernel32.lib
    include user32.inc
    includelib user32.lib
endif
.data
caption db 'WinAPI', 0
text    db 'Hello World', 0
.code
main proc
    invoke MessageBoxA, 0, offset text, offset caption, 0
    invoke ExitProcess, eax
main endp
end

The macro variant is the same for both, but you won't learn assembly this way. You'll learn C-style asm instead. invoke is for stdcall or fastcall while cinvoke is for cdecl or variable argument fastcall. The assembler knows which to use.

You can disassemble the output to see how invoke expanded.

Swift Set to Array

You can create an array with all elements from a given Swift Set simply with

let array = Array(someSet)

This works because Set conforms to the SequenceType protocol and an Array can be initialized with a sequence. Example:

let mySet = Set(["a", "b", "a"])  // Set<String>
let myArray = Array(mySet)        // Array<String>
print(myArray) // [b, a]

The javadoc of NoClassDefFounError itself would be a good start (here), and then I'll suggest you clean and rebuild your project.

Scrollable Menu with Bootstrap - Menu expanding its container when it should not

I think you can simplify this by just adding the necessary CSS properties to your special scrollable menu class..

CSS:

.scrollable-menu {
    height: auto;
    max-height: 200px;
    overflow-x: hidden;
}

HTML

       <ul class="dropdown-menu scrollable-menu" role="menu">
          <li><a href="#">Action</a></li>
          <li><a href="#">Another action</a></li>
          <li><a href="#">Something else here</a></li>
          <li><a href="#">Action</a></li>
            ..
          <li><a href="#">Action</a></li>
          <li><a href="#">Another action</a></li>
       </ul>

Height of status bar in Android

Out of all the code samples I've used to get the height of the status bar, the only one that actually appears to work in the onCreate method of an Activity is this:

public int getStatusBarHeight() {
    int result = 0;
    int resourceId = getResources().getIdentifier("status_bar_height", "dimen", "android");
    if (resourceId > 0) {
        result = getResources().getDimensionPixelSize(resourceId);
    }
    return result;
}

Apparently the actual height of the status bar is kept as an Android resource. The above code can be added to a ContextWrapper class (e.g. an Activity).

Matplotlib tight_layout() doesn't take into account figure suptitle

An alternative and simple to use solution is to adjust the coordinates of the suptitle text in the figure using the y argument in the call of suptitle (see the docs):

import numpy as np
import matplotlib.pyplot as plt

f = np.random.random(100)
g = np.random.random(100)
fig = plt.figure()
fig.suptitle('Long Suptitle', y=1.05, fontsize=24)
plt.subplot(121)
plt.plot(f)
plt.title('Very Long Title 1', fontsize=20)
plt.subplot(122)
plt.plot(g)
plt.title('Very Long Title 2', fontsize=20)
plt.show()

SyntaxError: cannot assign to operator

Well, as the error says, you have an expression (((t[1])/length) * t[1]) on the left side of the assignment, rather than a variable name. You have that expression, and then you tell Python to add string to it (which is always "") and assign it to... where? ((t[1])/length) * t[1] isn't a variable name, so you can't store the result into it.

Did you mean string += ((t[1])/length) * t[1]? That would make more sense. Of course, you're still trying to add a number to a string, or multiply by a string... one of those t[1]s should probably be a t[0].

How to stretch a fixed number of horizontal navigation items evenly and fully across a specified container

I'm hesitant to offer this as it misuses ye olde html. It's not a GOOD solution but it is a solution: use a table.

CSS:

table.navigation {
    width: 990px;
}
table.navigation td {
    text-align: center;
}

HTML:

<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" border="0" class="navigation">
    <tr>
        <td>HOME</td>
        <td>ABOUT</td>
        <td>BASIC SERVICES</td>
        <td>SPECIALTY SERVICES</td>
        <td>OUR STAFF</td>
        <td>CONTACT US</td>
    </tr>
</table>

This is not what tables were created to do but until we can reliably perform the same action in a better way I guess it is just about permissable.

How to disable copy/paste from/to EditText

If you want to disable ActionMode for copy/pasting, you need to override 2 callbacks. This works for both TextView and EditText (or TextInputEditText)

import android.view.ActionMode

fun TextView.disableCopyPaste() {
  isLongClickable = false
  setTextIsSelectable(false)
  customSelectionActionModeCallback = object : ActionMode.Callback {
    override fun onCreateActionMode(mode: ActionMode?, menu: Menu) = false
    override fun onPrepareActionMode(mode: ActionMode?, menu: Menu) = false
    override fun onActionItemClicked(mode: ActionMode?, item: MenuItem) = false
    override fun onDestroyActionMode(mode: ActionMode?) {}
  }
  //disable action mode when edittext gain focus at first
  if (Build.VERSION.SDK_INT >= Build.VERSION_CODES.M) {
    customInsertionActionModeCallback = object : ActionMode.Callback {
      override fun onCreateActionMode(mode: ActionMode?, menu: Menu) = false
      override fun onPrepareActionMode(mode: ActionMode?, menu: Menu) = false
      override fun onActionItemClicked(mode: ActionMode?, item: MenuItem) = false
      override fun onDestroyActionMode(mode: ActionMode?) {}
    }
  }
}

This extension is based off above @Alexandr solution and worked fine for me.

How to pass optional arguments to a method in C++?

Here is an example of passing mode as optional parameter

void myfunc(int blah, int mode = 0)
{
    if (mode == 0)
        do_something();
     else
        do_something_else();
}

you can call myfunc in both ways and both are valid

myfunc(10); // Mode will be set to default 0
myfunc(10, 1);  // Mode will be set to 1

How can I use "." as the delimiter with String.split() in java

If performance is an issue, you should consider using StringTokenizer instead of split. StringTokenizer is much much faster than split, even though it is a "legacy" class (but not deprecated).

Delete files older than 15 days using PowerShell

Basically, you iterate over files under the given path, subtract the CreationTime of each file found from the current time, and compare against the Days property of the result. The -WhatIf switch will tell you what will happen without actually deleting the files (which files will be deleted), remove the switch to actually delete the files:

$old = 15
$now = Get-Date

Get-ChildItem $path -Recurse |
Where-Object {-not $_.PSIsContainer -and $now.Subtract($_.CreationTime).Days -gt $old } |
Remove-Item -WhatIf

The server principal is not able to access the database under the current security context in SQL Server MS 2012

This worked for me:

use <Database>
EXEC  sp_change_users_login @Action='update_one', @UserNamePattern='<userLogin>',@LoginName='<userLogin>';

The problem can be visualized with:

SELECT sid FROM sys.sysusers WHERE name = '<userLogin>'
SELECT sid FROM sys.syslogins WHERE name = '<userLogin>';

Is a slash ("/") equivalent to an encoded slash ("%2F") in the path portion of an HTTP URL

What to do if :foo in its natural form contains slashes? You wouldn't want it to Isn't that the distinction the recommendation is attempting to preserve? It specifically notes,

The similarity to unix and other disk operating system filename conventions should be taken as purely coincidental, and should not be taken to indicate that URIs should be interpreted as file names.

If one was building an online interface to a backup program, and wished to express the path as a part of the URL path, it would make sense to encode the slashes in the file path, as that is not really part of the hierarchy of the resource - and more importantly, the route. /backups/2016-07-28content//home/dan/ loses the root of the filesystem in the double slash. Escaping the slashes is the appropriate way to distinguish, as I read it.

Updating a date in Oracle SQL table

How to get function parameter names/values dynamically?

The answer to this requires 3 steps:

  1. To get the values of the actual parameters passed to the function (let's call it argValues). This is straight forward as it will be available as arguments inside the function.
  2. To get the parameter names from the function signature (let's call it argNames). This not as easy and requires parsing the function. Instead of doing the complex regex yourself and worrying about edge cases (default parameters, comments, ...), you can use a library like babylon that will parse the function into an abstract syntax tree from which you can obtain the names of parameters.
  3. The last step is to join the 2 arrays together into 1 array that has the name and value of all the parameters.

The code will be like this

const babylon = require("babylon")
function doSomething(a, b, c) {
    // get the values of passed argumenst
    const argValues = arguments

    // get the names of the arguments by parsing the function
    const ast = babylon.parse(doSomething.toString())
    const argNames =  ast.program.body[0].params.map(node => node.name)

    // join the 2 arrays, by looping over the longest of 2 arrays
    const maxLen = Math.max(argNames.length, argValues.length)
    const args = []
    for (i = 0; i < maxLen; i++) {
       args.push({name: argNames[i], value: argValues[i]})
    }
    console.log(args)

    // implement the actual function here
}

doSomething(1, 2, 3, 4)

and the logged object will be

[
  {
    "name": "a",
    "value": 1
  },
  {
    "name": "c",
    "value": 3
  },
  {
    "value": 4
  }
]

C pointer to array/array of pointers disambiguation

Use the cdecl program, as suggested by K&R.

$ cdecl
Type `help' or `?' for help
cdecl> explain int* arr1[8];
declare arr1 as array 8 of pointer to int
cdecl> explain int (*arr2)[8]
declare arr2 as pointer to array 8 of int
cdecl> explain int *(arr3[8])
declare arr3 as array 8 of pointer to int
cdecl>

It works the other way too.

cdecl> declare x as pointer to function(void) returning pointer to float
float *(*x)(void )

Equivalent of Super Keyword in C#

C# equivalent of your code is

  class Imagedata : PDFStreamEngine
  {
     // C# uses "base" keyword whenever Java uses "super"
     // so instead of super(...) in Java we should call its C# equivalent (base):
     public Imagedata()
       : base(ResourceLoader.loadProperties("org/apache/pdfbox/resources/PDFTextStripper.properties", true))
     { }

     // Java methods are virtual by default, when C# methods aren't.
     // So we should be sure that processOperator method in base class
     // (that is PDFStreamEngine)
     // declared as "virtual"
     protected override void processOperator(PDFOperator operations, List arguments)
     {
        base.processOperator(operations, arguments);
     }
  }

Is there any boolean type in Oracle databases?

Not only is the boolean datatype missing in Oracle's SQL (not PL/SQL), but they also have no clear recommendation about what to use instead. See this thread on asktom. From recommending CHAR(1) 'Y'/'N' they switch to NUMBER(1) 0/1 when someone points out that 'Y'/'N' depends on the English language, while e.g. German programmers might use 'J'/'N' instead.

The worst thing is that they defend this stupid decision just like they defend the ''=NULL stupidity.

Oracle: how to INSERT if a row doesn't exist

If name is a PK, then just insert and catch the error. The reason to do this rather than any check is that it will work even with multiple clients inserting at the same time. If you check and then insert, you have to hold a lock during that time, or expect the error anyway.

The code for this would be something like

BEGIN
  INSERT INTO table( name, age )
    VALUES( 'johnny', null );
EXCEPTION
  WHEN dup_val_on_index
  THEN
    NULL; -- Intentionally ignore duplicates
END;

How to allow <input type="file"> to accept only image files?

i know i'm late but this might help. you can add specific type of image or other file type and do validation in your code :

<input style="margin-left: 10px; margin-top: 5px;" type="file" accept="image/x-png,image/jpeg,application/pdf" (change)="handleFileInput($event,'creditRatingFile')" name="creditRatingFile" id="creditRatingFile">

      handleFileInput(event) {
    console.log(event);
    const file = event.target.files[0];
    if (file.size > 2097152) {
        throw err;
    } else if (
      file.type !== "application/pdf"  &&
      file.type !== "application/wps-office.pdf"   &&
      file.type !== 'application/pdf'  && file.type !== 'image/jpg'  && file.type !== 'image/jpeg'  && file.type !== "image/png"
    ) {
throw err;
    } else {

        console.log('file valid')
    }
  }

R solve:system is exactly singular

Using solve with a single parameter is a request to invert a matrix. The error message is telling you that your matrix is singular and cannot be inverted.

How do I create a readable diff of two spreadsheets using git diff?

Newer versions of MS Office come with Spreadsheet Compare, which performs a fairly nice diff in a GUI. It detects most kinds of changes.

R - " missing value where TRUE/FALSE needed "

check the command : NA!=NA : you'll get the result NA, hence the error message.

You have to use the function is.na for your ifstatement to work (in general, it is always better to use this function to check for NA values) :

comments = c("no","yes",NA)
for (l in 1:length(comments)) {
    if (!is.na(comments[l])) print(comments[l])
}
[1] "no"
[1] "yes"

How to download python from command-line?

wget --no-check-certificate https://www.python.org/ftp/python/2.7.11/Python-2.7.11.tgz
tar -xzf Python-2.7.11.tgz
cd Python-2.7.11

Now read the README file to figure out how to install, or do the following with no guarantees from me that it will be exactly what you need.

./configure
make
sudo make install

For Python 3.5 use the following download address:
http://www.python.org/ftp/python/3.5.1/Python-3.5.1.tgz

For other versions and the most up to date download links:

Pass a simple string from controller to a view MVC3

@Steve Hobbs' answer is probably the best, but some of your other solutions could have worked. For example, @Html.Label(ViewBag.CurrentPath); will probably work with an explicit cast, like @Html.Label((string)ViewBag.CurrentPath);. Also, your reference to currentPath in @Html.Label(ViewData["CurrentPath"].ToString()); is capitalized, wherein your other code it is not, which is probably why you were getting null reference exceptions.

LoDash: Get an array of values from an array of object properties

Get current date in Swift 3?

You say in a comment you want to get "15.09.2016".

For this, use Date and DateFormatter:

let date = Date()
let formatter = DateFormatter()

Give the format you want to the formatter:

formatter.dateFormat = "dd.MM.yyyy"

Get the result string:

let result = formatter.string(from: date)

Set your label:

label.text = result

Result:

15.09.2016

jQuery UI " $("#datepicker").datepicker is not a function"

I struggled with a similar problem for hours. It then turned out that jQuery was included twice, once by the program that I was adding a jQuery function to and once by our in-house debugger.

Escaping special characters in Java Regular Expressions

The only way the regex matcher knows you are looking for a digit and not the letter d is to escape the letter (\d). To type the regex escape character in java, you need to escape it (so \ becomes \\). So, there's no way around typing double backslashes for special regex chars.

Fastest way to update 120 Million records

If the table has an index which you can iterate over I would put update top(10000) statement in a while loop moving over the data. That would keep the transaction log slim and won't have such a huge impact on the disk system. Also, I would recommend to play with maxdop option (setting it closer to 1).

Checking if float is an integer

Apart from the fine answers already given, you can also use ceilf(f) == f or floorf(f) == f. Both expressions return true if f is an integer. They also returnfalse for NaNs (NaNs always compare unequal) and true for ±infinity, and don't have the problem with overflowing the integer type used to hold the truncated result, because floorf()/ceilf() return floats.

What is the best way to delete a value from an array in Perl?

If you know the array index, you can delete() it. The difference between splice() and delete() is that delete() does not renumber the remaining elements of the array.

Which tool to build a simple web front-end to my database

For Data access you can use OData. Here is a demo where Scott Hanselman creates an OData front end to StackOverflow database in 30 minutes, with XML and JSON access: Creating an OData API for StackOverflow including XML and JSON in 30 minutes.

For administrative access, like phpMyAdmin package, there is no well established one. You may give a try to IIS Database Manager.

typesafe select onChange event using reactjs and typescript

Since upgrading my typings to react 0.14.43 (I'm not sure exactly when this was introduced), the React.FormEvent type is now generic and this removes the need for a cast.

import React = require('react');

interface ITestState {
    selectedValue: string;
}

export class Test extends React.Component<{}, ITestState> {

    constructor() {
        super();
        this.state = { selectedValue: "A" };
    }

    change(event: React.FormEvent<HTMLSelectElement>) {
        // No longer need to cast to any - hooray for react!
        var safeSearchTypeValue: string = event.currentTarget.value;

        console.log(safeSearchTypeValue); // in chrome => B

        this.setState({
            selectedValue: safeSearchTypeValue
        });
    }

    render() {
        return (
            <div>
                <label htmlFor="searchType">Safe</label>
                <select className="form-control" id="searchType" onChange={ e => this.change(e) } value={ this.state.selectedValue }>
                    <option value="A">A</option>
                    <option value="B">B</option>
                </select>
                <h1>{this.state.selectedValue}</h1>
            </div>
        );
    }
}

How to set environment variables from within package.json?

suddenly i found that actionhero is using following code, that solved my problem by just passing --NODE_ENV=production in start script command option.

if(argv['NODE_ENV'] != null){
  api.env = argv['NODE_ENV'];
} else if(process.env.NODE_ENV != null){
  api.env = process.env.NODE_ENV;
}

i would really appreciate to accept answer of someone else who know more better way to set environment variables in package.json or init script or something like, where app bootstrapped by someone else.

How to execute a MySQL command from a shell script?

How to execute an SQL script, use this syntax:

mysql --host= localhost --user=root --password=xxxxxx  -e "source dbscript.sql"

If you use host as localhost you don't need to mention it. You can use this:

mysql --user=root --password=xxxxxx  -e "source dbscript.sql"

This should work for Windows and Linux.

If the password content contains a ! (Exclamation mark) you should add a \ (backslash) in front of it.

How to export data to CSV in PowerShell?

You can always use the

echo "Column1`tColumn2`tColumn3..." >> results.csv

You will need to put "`t" between the columns to separates the variables into their own column. Here is the way I wrote my script:

echo "Host`tState" >> results.csv
$names = Get-Content "hostlist.txt"
foreach ($name in $names) {
    $count = 0
    $count2 = 13490

    if ( Test-Connection -ComputerName $name -Count 1 -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue ) {
        echo "$name`tUp" >> results.csv
    }
    else {
        echo "$name`tDown" >> results.csv
    }

    $count++
    Write-Progress -Activity "Gathering Information" -status "Pinging Hosts..." -percentComplete ($count / $count2 *100)

}

This is the easiest way to me. The output I get is :

Host|State
----------
H1  |Up
H2  |UP
H3  |Down

You can play around with the look, but that's the basic idea. The $count is just a progress bar if you want to spice up the look
