A simplex is a generalization of the notion of a triangle or tetrahedron to arbitrary dimension.

Laravel: PDOException: could not find driver

Finally I fixed this. There was a typo in the server configuration and all paths to php extecutables were fine except the path to php-cli, which caused the error. When I fixed the path, everything worked fine.

Extension gd is missing from your system - laravel composer Update

It may not be enabled for php-cli, you can enable like this;

sudo phpenmod gd

UPDATE

I guess, you are using ppa:ondrej php package (5.6), which is confusing you with default ubuntu 14.04 php package (5.5.9).

To install php 5.6 gd library from ppa:ondrej, you should use:

sudo apt-get install php5.6-gd

PHP 7 simpleXML

For Ubuntu 14.04 with

PHP 7.0.13-1+deb.sury.org~trusty+1 (cli) ( NTS )

sudo apt-get install php-xml

worked for me.

PHP: Call to undefined function: simplexml_load_string()

If the XML module is not installed, install it.

Current version 5.6 on ubuntu 14.04:

sudo apt-get install php5.6-xml

And don't forget to run sudo service apache2 restart command after it

SimpleXML - I/O warning : failed to load external entity

simplexml_load_file() interprets an XML file (either a file on your disk or a URL) into an object. What you have in $feed is a string.

You have two options:

  • Use file_get_contents() to get the XML feed as a string, and use e simplexml_load_string():

    $feed = file_get_contents('...');
    $items = simplexml_load_string($feed);

  • Load the XML feed directly using simplexml_load_file():

    $items = simplexml_load_file('...');

how to read xml file from url using php

$url = 'http://www.example.com'; $xml = simpleXML_load_file($url,"SimpleXMLElement",LIBXML_NOCDATA);

$url can be php file, as long as the file generate xml format data as output.

Multi-line strings in PHP

Well,

$xml = "l
vv";

Works.

You can also use the following:

$xml = "l\nvv";

or

$xml = <<<XML
l
vv
XML;

Edit based on comment:

You can concatenate strings using the .= operator.

$str = "Hello";
$str .= " World";
echo $str; //Will echo out "Hello World";

Check If array is null or not in php

you can use

empty($result)

to check if the main array is empty or not.

But since you have a SimpleXMLElement object, you need to query the object if it is empty or not. See http://www.php.net/manual/en/simplexmlelement.count.php

ex:

if (empty($result) || !isset($result['Tags'])) {
    return false;
}
if ( !($result['Tags'] instanceof SimpleXMLElement)) {
    return false;
}
return ($result['Tags']->count());

'xmlParseEntityRef: no name' warnings while loading xml into a php file

This is in deed due to characters messing around with the data. Using htmlentities($yourText) worked for me (I had html code inside the xml document). See http://uk3.php.net/htmlentities.

Converting a SimpleXML Object to an Array

Just (array) is missing in your code before the simplexml object:

...

$xml   = simplexml_load_string($string, 'SimpleXMLElement', LIBXML_NOCDATA);

$array = json_decode(json_encode((array)$xml), TRUE);
                                 ^^^^^^^
...

preg_match(); - Unknown modifier '+'

Try this code:

preg_match('/[a-zA-Z]+<\/a>.$/', $lastgame, $match);
print_r($match);

Using / as a delimiter means you also need to escape it here, like so: <\/a>.

UPDATE

preg_match('/<a.*<a.*>(.*)</', $lastgame, $match);
echo'['.$match[1].']';

Might not be the best way...

Check string length in PHP

How to parse SOAP XML?

One of the simplest ways to handle namespace prefixes is simply to strip them from the XML response before passing it through to simplexml such as below:

$your_xml_response = '<Your XML here>';
$clean_xml = str_ireplace(['SOAP-ENV:', 'SOAP:'], '', $your_xml_response);
$xml = simplexml_load_string($clean_xml);

This would return the following:

SimpleXMLElement Object
(
    [Body] => SimpleXMLElement Object
        (
            [PaymentNotification] => SimpleXMLElement Object
                (
                    [payment] => SimpleXMLElement Object
                        (
                            [uniqueReference] => ESDEUR11039872

SimpleXml to string

You can use casting:

<?php

$string = "<element><child>Hello World</child></element>";
$xml = new SimpleXMLElement($string);

$text = (string)$xml->child;

$text will be 'Hello World'

Set Page Title using PHP

if you want to current script filename as your title tag

include the function in your project

function setTitle($requestUri)
         {
            $explodeRequestUri = explode("/", $requestUri);
            $currentFileName = end($explodeRequestUri);
            $withoutExt = preg_replace('/\\.[^.\\s]{3,4}$/', '', $currentFileName);
            $explodeCurrentFileName = explode("-", $withoutExt);
            foreach ($explodeCurrentFileName as $curFileValue)
            {
               $fileArrayName[] = ucfirst($curFileValue);
            }
            echo implode(" ", $fileArrayName);

         }

and in your html include the function script and replace your title tag with this

<title>Your Project Name -
            <?php setTitle($_SERVER['REQUEST_URI']); ?>
        </title>

it works on php7 and above but i dont have any idea about php 5.* Hope it helps

PHP: How to handle <![CDATA[ with SimpleXMLElement?

You're probably not accessing it correctly. You can output it directly or cast it as a string. (in this example, the casting is superfluous, as echo automatically does it anyway)

$content = simplexml_load_string(
    '<content><![CDATA[Hello, world!]]></content>'
);
echo (string) $content;

// or with parent element:

$foo = simplexml_load_string(
    '<foo><content><![CDATA[Hello, world!]]></content></foo>'
);
echo (string) $foo->content;

You might have better luck with LIBXML_NOCDATA:

$content = simplexml_load_string(
    '<content><![CDATA[Hello, world!]]></content>'
    , null
    , LIBXML_NOCDATA
);

Get value from SimpleXMLElement Object

foreach($xml->code as $vals )
{
    unset($geonames);
    $vals=(array)$vals;
    foreach($vals as $key => $value)
      {
        $value=(array)$value;
        $geonames[$key]=$value[0];
      }
}
print_r($geonames);

Error: "Input is not proper UTF-8, indicate encoding !" using PHP's simplexml_load_string

Instead of using javascript, you can simply put this line of code after your mysql_connect sentence:

mysql_set_charset('utf8',$connection);

Cheers.

What is the current choice for doing RPC in Python?

You missed out omniORB. This is a pretty full CORBA implementation, so you can also use it to talk to other languages that have CORBA support.

How to use XMLReader in PHP?

XMLReader is well documented on PHP site. This is a XML Pull Parser, which means it's used to iterate through nodes (or DOM Nodes) of given XML document. For example, you could go through the entire document you gave like this:

<?php
$reader = new XMLReader();
if (!$reader->open("data.xml"))
{
    die("Failed to open 'data.xml'");
}
while($reader->read())
{
    $node = $reader->expand();
    // process $node...
}
$reader->close();
?>

It is then up to you to decide how to deal with the node returned by XMLReader::expand().

Accessing @attribute from SimpleXML

$xml = <<<XML
<root>
<elem attrib="value" />
</root>
XML;

$sxml = simplexml_load_string($xml);
$attrs = $sxml->elem->attributes();
echo $attrs["attrib"]; //or just $sxml->elem["attrib"]

Use SimpleXMLElement::attributes.

Truth is, the SimpleXMLElement get_properties handler lies big time. There's no property named "@attributes", so you can't do $sxml->elem->{"@attributes"}["attrib"].

How to convert array to SimpleXML

the following deals with namespaces. In this case, you construct the wrapper to include the namespace definitions, and pass it into the function. use a colon to identify the namespace.

Test Array

$inarray = [];
$inarray['p:apple'] = "red";
$inarray['p:pear'] = "green";
$inarray['p:peach'] = "orange";
$inarray['p1:grocers'] = ['p1:local' => "cheap", 'p1:imported' => "expensive"];

$xml = new SimpleXMLElement( '<p:wrapper xmlns:p="http://namespace.org/api" xmlns:p1="http://namespace.org/api2 /> ');

array_to_xml($xml,$inarray);

function array_to_xml(SimpleXMLElement $object, array $data)
{
    $nslist = $object->getDocNamespaces();

    foreach ($data as $key => $value)
    {
        $nspace = null;
        $keyparts = explode(":",$key,2);
        if ( count($keyparts)==2)
            $nspace = $nslist[$keyparts[0]];

        if (is_array($value))
        {
            $key = is_numeric($key) ? "item$key" : $key;
            $new_object = $object->addChild($key,null,$nspace);
            array_to_xml($new_object, $value);
        }
        else
        {
            $key = is_numeric($key) ? "item$key" : $key;
            $object->addChild($key, $value,$nspace);
        }
    }
}

How to echo xml file in php

If anyone is targeting yahoo rss feed may benefit from this snippet

<?php
    $rssUrl="http://news.yahoo.com/rss/topstories";
    //====================================================
    $xml=simplexml_load_file($rssUrl) or die("Error: Cannot create object");
    //====================================================
    $featureRss =  array_slice(json_decode(json_encode((array) $xml ),  true ), 0 );
 /*Just to see what is in it
use this function PrettyPrintArray()
instead of var_dump($featureRss);*/

    function PrettyPrintArray($rssData, $level) {
    foreach($rssData as $key => $Items) {
    for($i = 0; $i < $level; $i++)
    echo("&nbsp;");
    /*if content more than one*/
    if(!is_array($Items)){
    //$Items=htmlentities($Items);
    $Items=htmlspecialchars($Items);
    echo("Item " .$key . " => " . $Items . "<br/><br/>");
    }
    else
    {
    echo($key . " => <br/><br/>");
    PrettyPrintArray($Items, $level+1);
    }
    }
    }
    PrettyPrintArray($featureRss, 0);
?>

You may want to run it in your browser first to see what is there and before looping and style it up pretty simple

To grab the first item description

<?php
    echo($featureRss['channel']['item'][0]['description']);
?>

You can see a demo here

PHP: How do you determine every Nth iteration of a loop?

Going off of @Powerlord's answer,

"There is one catch: 0 % 3 is equal to 0. This could result in unexpected results if your counter starts at 0."

You can still start your counter at 0 (arrays, querys), but offset it

if (($counter + 1) % 3 == 0) {
  echo 'image file';
}

Remove a child with a specific attribute, in SimpleXML for PHP

Since I encountered the same fatal error as Gerry and I'm not familiar with DOM, I decided to do it like this:

$item = $xml->xpath("//seg[@id='A12']");
$page = $xml->xpath("/data");
$id = "A12";

if (  count($item)  &&  count($page) ) {
    $item = $item[0];
    $page = $page[0];

     // find the numerical index within ->children().
    $ch = $page->children();
    $ch_as_array = (array) $ch;

    if (  count($ch_as_array)  &&  isset($ch_as_array['seg'])  ) {
        $ch_as_array = $ch_as_array['seg'];
        $index_in_array = array_search($item, $ch_as_array);
        if (  ($index_in_array !== false)
          &&  ($index_in_array !== null)
          &&  isset($ch[$index_in_array])
          &&  ($ch[$index_in_array]['id'] == $id)  ) {

             // delete it!
            unset($ch[$index_in_array]);

            echo "<pre>"; var_dump($xml); echo "</pre>";
        }
    } // end of ( if xml object successfully converted to array )
} // end of ( valid item AND section )

Best XML Parser for PHP

I would have to say SimpleXML takes the cake because it is firstly an extension, written in C, and is very fast. But second, the parsed document takes the form of a PHP object. So you can "query" like $root->myElement.

Using SimpleXML to create an XML object from scratch

Sure you can. Eg.

<?php
$newsXML = new SimpleXMLElement("<news></news>");
$newsXML->addAttribute('newsPagePrefix', 'value goes here');
$newsIntro = $newsXML->addChild('content');
$newsIntro->addAttribute('type', 'latest');
Header('Content-type: text/xml');
echo $newsXML->asXML();
?>

Output

<?xml version="1.0"?>
<news newsPagePrefix="value goes here">
    <content type="latest"/>
</news>

Have fun.

#1273 - Unknown collation: 'utf8mb4_unicode_ci' cPanel

The easiest way to do is export your database to .sql, open it on Notepad++ and "Search and Replace" the utf8mb4_unicode_ci to utf8_unicode_ci and also replace utf8mb4 to utf8. Also don't forget to change the database collation to utf8_unicode_ci (Operations > Collation).

How to convert SSH keypairs generated using PuTTYgen (Windows) into key-pairs used by ssh-agent and Keychain (Linux)

I think what TCSgrad was trying to ask (a few years ago) was how to make Linux behave like his Windows machine does. That is, there is an agent (pageant) which holds a decrypted copy of a private key so that the passphrase only needs to be put in once. Then, the ssh client, putty, can log in to machines where his public key is listed as "authorized" without a password prompt.

The analog for this is that Linux, acting as an ssh client, has an agent holding a decrypted private key so that when TCSgrad types "ssh host" the ssh command will get his private key and go without being prompted for a password. host would, of course, have to be holding the public key in ~/.ssh/authorized_keys.

The Linux analog to this scenario is accomplished using ssh-agent (the pageant analog) and ssh-add (the analog to adding a private key to pageant).

The method that worked for me was to use: $ ssh-agent $SHELL That $SHELL was the magic trick I needed to make the agent run and stay running. I found that somewhere on the 'net and it ended a few hours of beating my head against the wall.

Now we have the analog of pageant running, an agent with no keys loaded.

Typing $ ssh-add by itself will add (by default) the private keys listed in the default identity files in ~/.ssh .

Spring MVC: Error 400 The request sent by the client was syntactically incorrect

Another possible cause is to have the wrong order of RequestMapping attributes. As spring doc says:

An @RequestMapping handler method can have a very flexible signatures. The supported method arguments and return values are described in the following section. Most arguments can be used in arbitrary order with the only exception of BindingResult arguments. This is described in the next section.

If you scroll down the doc, you will see that the BindingResult has to be immediatelly after the model attribute, since we can have multiple model objects per request and thus multiple bindings

The Errors or BindingResult parameters have to follow the model object that is being bound immediately as the method signature might have more than one model object and Spring will create a separate BindingResult instance for each of them so the following sample won’t work:

Here are two examples:

Invalid ordering of BindingResult and @ModelAttribute.

@RequestMapping(method = RequestMethod.POST) public String processSubmit(@ModelAttribute("pet") Pet pet, Model model, BindingResult result) { ... } Note, that there is a Model parameter in between Pet and BindingResult. To get this working you have to reorder the parameters as follows:

@RequestMapping(method = RequestMethod.POST) public String processSubmit(@ModelAttribute("pet") Pet pet, BindingResult result, Model model) { ... }

How to wait for 2 seconds?

The documentation for WAITFOR() doesn't explicitly lay out the required string format.

This will wait for 2 seconds:

The format is hh:mi:ss.mmm.

Android Error [Attempt to invoke virtual method 'void android.app.ActionBar' on a null object reference]

Try this hope it will work, my code is works fine

Toolbar toolbar = findViewById(R.id.toolbar1);
setSupportActionBar(toolbar);

getSupportActionBar().setHomeButtonEnabled(true);
getSupportActionBar().setTitle("");

- java.lang.NullPointerException - setText on null object reference

private void fillTextView (int id, String text) {
    TextView tv = (TextView) findViewById(id);
    tv.setText(text);
}

If this is where you're getting the null pointer exception, there was no view found for the id that you passed into findViewById(), and the actual exception is thrown when you try to call a function setText() on null. You should post your XML for R.layout.activity_main, as it's hard to tell where things went wrong just by looking at your code.

More reading on null pointers: What is a NullPointerException, and how do I fix it?

Uncaught Error: SECURITY_ERR: DOM Exception 18 when I try to set a cookie

You can also "fix" this by replacing the image with its inline Base64 representation:

img.src= "data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhCwALAIAAAAAA3pn/ZiH5BAEAAAEALAAAAAALAAsAAAIUhA+hkcuO4lmNVindo7qyrIXiGBYAOw==";
Useful, when you do not intend to publish the page on the web, but instead use it on local machines only.

Raw SQL Query without DbSet - Entity Framework Core

I used Dapper to bypass this constraint of Entity framework Core.

IDbConnection.Query

is working with either sql query or stored procedure with multiple parameters. By the way it's a bit faster (see benchmark tests )

Dapper is easy to learn. It took 15 minutes to write and run stored procedure with parameters. Anyway you may use both EF and Dapper. Below is an example:

 public class PodborsByParametersService
{
    string _connectionString = null;

    public PodborsByParametersService(string connStr)
    {
        this._connectionString = connStr;

    }

    public IList<TyreSearchResult> GetTyres(TyresPodborView pb,bool isPartner,string partnerId ,int pointId)
    {

        string sqltext  "spGetTyresPartnerToClient";

        var p = new DynamicParameters();
        p.Add("@PartnerID", partnerId);
        p.Add("@PartnerPointID", pointId);

        using (IDbConnection db = new SqlConnection(_connectionString))
        {
            return db.Query<TyreSearchResult>(sqltext, p,null,true,null,CommandType.StoredProcedure).ToList();
        }

        }
}

Java - Opposite of .contains (does not contain)

It seems that Luiggi Mendoza and joey rohan both already answered this, but I think it can be clarified a little.

You can write it as a single if statement:

if (inventory.contains("bread") && !inventory.contains("water")) {
    // do something
}

$ curl -v -H 'Connection: keep-alive' -H 'Content-Type: application/json'  https://www.example.com

Going Further

For standard HTTP header fields such as User-Agent, Cookie, Host, there is actually another way to setting them. The curl command offers designated options for setting these header fields:

  • -A (or --user-agent): set "User-Agent" field.
  • -b (or --cookie): set "Cookie" field.
  • -e (or --referer): set "Referer" field.
  • -H (or --header): set "Header" field

For example, the following two commands are equivalent. Both of them change "User-Agent" string in the HTTP header.

    $ curl -v -H "Content-Type: application/json" -H "User-Agent: UserAgentString" https://www.example.com
    $ curl -v -H "Content-Type: application/json" -A "UserAgentString" https://www.example.com

Git: How to check if a local repo is up to date?

First use git remote update, to bring your remote refs up to date. Then you can do one of several things, such as:

  1. git status -uno will tell you whether the branch you are tracking is ahead, behind or has diverged. If it says nothing, the local and remote are the same. Sample result:

On branch DEV

Your branch is behind 'origin/DEV' by 7 commits, and can be fast-forwarded.

(use "git pull" to update your local branch)

  1. git show-branch *master will show you the commits in all of the branches whose names end in 'master' (eg master and origin/master).

If you use -v with git remote update (git remote -v update) you can see which branches got updated, so you don't really need any further commands.

Undefined reference to static class member

You need to actually define the static member somewhere (after the class definition). Try this:

class Foo { /* ... */ };

const int Foo::MEMBER;

int main() { /* ... */ }

That should get rid of the undefined reference.

Deleting a SQL row ignoring all foreign keys and constraints

Do not under any circumstances disable the constraints. This is an extremely stupid practice. You cannot maintain data integrity if you do things like this. Data integrity is the first consideration of a database because without it, you have nothing.

The correct method is to delete from the child tables before trying to delete the parent record. You are probably timing out because you have set up cascading deltes which is another bad practice in a large database.

Parse query string into an array

Sometimes parse_str() alone is note accurate, it could display for example:

$url = "somepage?id=123&lang=gr&size=300";

parse_str() would return:

Array (
    [somepage?id] => 123
    [lang] => gr
    [size] => 300
)

It would be better to combine parse_str() with parse_url() like so:

$url = "somepage?id=123&lang=gr&size=300";
parse_str( parse_url( $url, PHP_URL_QUERY), $array );
print_r( $array );

How to increase image size of pandas.DataFrame.plot in jupyter notebook?

Try this:

import matplotlib as plt

after importing the file we can use matplotlib library but remember to use it as plt

df.plt(kind='line',figsize=(10,5))

after that the plot will be done and size increased. In figsize the 10 is for breadth and 5 is for height. Also other attributes can be added to the plot too.

How do I trim a file extension from a String in Java?

I would do like this:

String title_part = "title part1.txt";
int i;
for(i=title_part.length()-1 ; i>=0 && title_part.charAt(i)!='.' ; i--);
title_part = title_part.substring(0,i);

Starting to the end till the '.' then call substring.

Edit: Might not be a golf but it's effective :)

Click a button with XPath containing partial id and title in Selenium IDE

Now that you have provided your HTML sample, we're able to see that your XPath is slightly wrong. While it's valid XPath, it's logically wrong.

You've got:

//*[contains(@id, 'ctl00_btnAircraftMapCell')]//*[contains(@title, 'Select Seat')]

Which translates into:

Get me all the elements that have an ID that contains ctl00_btnAircraftMapCell. Out of these elements, get any child elements that have a title that contains Select Seat.

What you actually want is:

//a[contains(@id, 'ctl00_btnAircraftMapCell') and contains(@title, 'Select Seat')]

Which translates into:

Get me all the anchor elements that have both: an id that contains ctl00_btnAircraftMapCell and a title that contains Select Seat.

How to modify a global variable within a function in bash?

I had a similar problem, when I wanted to automatically remove temp files I had created. The solution I came up with was not to use command substitution, but rather to pass the name of the variable, that should take the final result, into the function. E.g.

#! /bin/bash

remove_later=""
new_tmp_file() {
    file=$(mktemp)
    remove_later="$remove_later $file"
    eval $1=$file
}
remove_tmp_files() {
    rm $remove_later
}
trap remove_tmp_files EXIT

new_tmp_file tmpfile1
new_tmp_file tmpfile2

So, in your case that would be:

#!/bin/bash

e=2

function test1() {
  e=4
  eval $1="hello"
}

test1 ret

echo "$ret"
echo "$e"

Works and has no restrictions on the "return value".

Can Python test the membership of multiple values in a list?

[x for x in ['a','b'] if x in ['b', 'a', 'foo', 'bar']]

The reason I think this is better than the chosen answer is that you really don't need to call the 'all()' function. Empty list evaluates to False in IF statements, non-empty list evaluates to True.

if [x for x in ['a','b'] if x in ['b', 'a', 'foo', 'bar']]:
    ...Do something...

Example:

>>> [x for x in ['a','b'] if x in ['b', 'a', 'foo', 'bar']]
['a', 'b']
>>> [x for x in ['G','F'] if x in ['b', 'a', 'foo', 'bar']]
[]

Why is my JavaScript function sometimes "not defined"?

I had this function not being recognized as defined in latest Firefox for Linux, though Chromium was dealing fine with it.

What happened in my case was that I had a former SCRIPT block, before the block that defined the function with problem, stated in the following way:

<SCRIPT src="mycode.js"/>

(That is, without the closing tag.)

I had to redeclare this block in the following way.

<SCRIPT src="mycode.js"></SCRIPT>

And then what followed worked fine... weird huh?

MYSQL import data from csv using LOAD DATA INFILE

Before importing the file, you must need to prepare the following:

  • A database table to which the data from the file will be imported.
  • A CSV file with data that matches with the number of columns of the table and the type of data in each column.
  • The account, which connects to the MySQL database server, has FILE and INSERT privileges.

Suppose we have following table :

enter image description here

CREATE TABLE USING FOLLOWING QUERY :

CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS `survey` (
  `projectId` bigint(20) NOT NULL,
  `surveyId` bigint(20) NOT NULL,
  `views` bigint(20) NOT NULL,
  `dateTime` datetime NOT NULL
);

YOUR CSV FILE MUST BE PROPERLY FORMATTED FOR EXAMPLE SEE FOLLOWING ATTACHED IMAGE :

enter image description here

If every thing is fine.. Please execute following query to LOAD DATA FROM CSV FILE :

NOTE : Please add absolute path of your CSV file

LOAD DATA INFILE '/var/www/csv/data.csv'
INTO TABLE survey
FIELDS TERMINATED BY ','
ENCLOSED BY '"'
LINES TERMINATED BY '\r\n'
IGNORE 1 LINES;

If everything has done. you have exported data from CSV to table successfully

JQuery ajax call default timeout value

Undo git stash pop that results in merge conflict

Luckily git stash pop does not change the stash in the case of a conflict!

So nothing, to worry about, just clean up your code and try it again.

Say your codebase was clean before, you could go back to that state with: git checkout -f
Then do the stuff you forgot, e.g. git merge missing-branch
After that just fire git stash pop again and you get the same stash, that conflicted before.

Keep in mind: The stash is safe, however, uncommitted changes in the working directory are of course not. They can get messed up.

Get Enum from Description attribute

Should be pretty straightforward, its just the reverse of your previous method;

public static int GetEnumFromDescription(string description, Type enumType)
{
    foreach (var field in enumType.GetFields())
    {
        DescriptionAttribute attribute
            = Attribute.GetCustomAttribute(field, typeof(DescriptionAttribute))as DescriptionAttribute;
        if(attribute == null)
            continue;
        if(attribute.Description == description)
        {
            return (int) field.GetValue(null);
        }
    }
    return 0;
}

Usage:

Console.WriteLine((Animal)GetEnumFromDescription("Giant Panda",typeof(Animal)));

How to redirect a url in NGINX

Similar to another answer here, but change the http in the rewrite to to $scheme like so:

server {
        listen 80;
        server_name test.com;
        rewrite     ^ $scheme://www.test.com$request_uri? permanent;

server_name  www.test.com;

I had to do this to redirect www.test.com to test.com.

PHP Curl And Cookies

First create temporary cookie using tempnam() function:

$ckfile = tempnam ("/tmp", "CURLCOOKIE");

Then execute curl init witch saves the cookie as a temporary file:

$ch = curl_init ("http://uri.com/");
curl_setopt ($ch, CURLOPT_COOKIEJAR, $ckfile);
curl_setopt ($ch, CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER, true);
$output = curl_exec ($ch);

Or visit a page using the cookie stored in the temporary file:

$ch = curl_init ("http://somedomain.com/cookiepage.php");
curl_setopt ($ch, CURLOPT_COOKIEFILE, $ckfile);
curl_setopt ($ch, CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER, true);
$output = curl_exec ($ch);

This will initialize the cookie for the page:

curl_setopt ($ch, CURLOPT_COOKIEFILE, $ckfile);

Does List<T> guarantee insertion order?

The List<> class does guarantee ordering - things will be retained in the list in the order you add them, including duplicates, unless you explicitly sort the list.

According to MSDN:

...List "Represents a strongly typed list of objects that can be accessed by index."

The index values must remain reliable for this to be accurate. Therefore the order is guaranteed.

You might be getting odd results from your code if you're moving the item later in the list, as your Remove() will move all of the other items down one place before the call to Insert().

Can you boil your code down to something small enough to post?

The error says that a warning was treated as an error, therefore your problem is a warning message! The object file is then not created because there was an error. So you need to check your warnings and fix them.

In case you don't know how to find them: Open the Error List (View > Error List) and click on Warning.

How do I use cx_freeze?

I'm really not sure what you're doing to get that error, it looks like you're trying to run cx_Freeze on its own, without arguments. So here is a short step-by-step guide on how to do it in windows (Your screenshot looks rather like the windows command line, so I'm assuming that's your platform)

  1. Write your setup.py file. Your script above looks correct so it should work, assuming that your script exists.

  2. Open the command line (Start -> Run -> "cmd")

  3. Go to the location of your setup.py file and run python setup.py build

Notes:

  1. There may be a problem with the name of your script. "Main.py" contains upper case letters, which might cause confusion since windows' file names are not case sensitive, but python is. My approach is to always use lower case for scripts to avoid any conflicts.

  2. Make sure that python is on your PATH (read http://docs.python.org/using/windows.html)1

  3. Make sure are are looking at the new cx_Freeze documentation. Google often seems to bring up the old docs.

How do I get java logging output to appear on a single line?

As of Java 7, java.util.logging.SimpleFormatter supports getting its format from a system property, so adding something like this to the JVM command line will cause it to print on one line:

-Djava.util.logging.SimpleFormatter.format='%1$tY-%1$tm-%1$td %1$tH:%1$tM:%1$tS %4$s %2$s %5$s%6$s%n'

Alternatively, you can also add this to your logger.properties:

java.util.logging.SimpleFormatter.format='%1$tY-%1$tm-%1$td %1$tH:%1$tM:%1$tS %4$s %2$s %5$s%6$s%n'

How can I change the color of AlertDialog title and the color of the line under it

Unfortunately, this is not a particularly simple task to accomplish. In my answer here, I detail how to adjust the color of a ListSeparator by just checking out the parent style used by Android, creating a new image, and creating a new style based on the original. Unfortunately, unlike with the ListSeparator's style, AlertDialog themes are internal, and therefore cannot be referenced as parent styles. There is no easy way to change that little blue line! Thus you need to resort to making custom dialogs.

If that just isn't your cup of tea... don't give up! I was very disturbed that there was no easy way to do this so I set up a little project on github for making quickly customized holo-style dialogs (assuming that the phone supports the Holo style). You can find the project here: https://github.com/danoz73/QustomDialog

It should easily enable going from boring blue to exciting orange!

enter image description here

The project is basically an example of using a custom dialog builder, and in the example I created a custom view that seemed to cater to the IP Address example you give in your original question.

With QustomDialog, in order to create a basic dialog (title, message) with a desired different color for the title or divider, you use the following code:

private String HALLOWEEN_ORANGE = "#FF7F27";

QustomDialogBuilder qustomDialogBuilder = new QustomDialogBuilder(v.getContext()).
    setTitle("Set IP Address").
    setTitleColor(HALLOWEEN_ORANGE).
    setDividerColor(HALLOWEEN_ORANGE).
    setMessage("You are now entering the 10th dimension.");

qustomDialogBuilder.show();

And in order to add a custom layout (say, to add the little IP address EditText), you add

setCustomView(R.layout.example_ip_address_layout, v.getContext())

to the builder with a layout that you have designed (the IP example can be found in the github). I hope this helps. Many thanks to Joseph Earl and his answer here.

Android adding simple animations while setvisibility(view.Gone)

You can do two things to add animations, first you can let android animate layout changes for you. That way every time you change something in the layout like changing view visibility or view positions android will automatically create fade/transition animations. To use that set

android:animateLayoutChanges="true"

on the root node in your layout.

Your second option would be to manually add animations. For this I suggest you use the new animation API introduced in Android 3.0 (Honeycomb). I can give you a few examples:

This fades out a View:

view.animate().alpha(0.0f);

This fades it back in:

view.animate().alpha(1.0f);

This moves a View down by its height:

view.animate().translationY(view.getHeight());

This returns the View to its starting position after it has been moved somewhere else:

view.animate().translationY(0);

You can also use setDuration() to set the duration of the animation. For example this fades out a View over a period of 2 seconds:

view.animate().alpha(0.0f).setDuration(2000);

And you can combine as many animations as you like, for example this fades out a View and moves it down at the same time over a period of 0.3 seconds:

view.animate()
        .translationY(view.getHeight())
        .alpha(0.0f)
        .setDuration(300);

And you can also assign a listener to the animation and react to all kinds of events. Like when the animation starts, when it ends or repeats etc. By using the abstract class AnimatorListenerAdapter you don't have to implement all callbacks of AnimatorListener at once but only those you need. This makes the code more readable. For example the following code fades out a View moves it down by its height over a period of 0.3 seconds (300 milliseconds) and when the animation is done its visibility is set to View.GONE.

view.animate()
        .translationY(view.getHeight())
        .alpha(0.0f)
        .setDuration(300)
        .setListener(new AnimatorListenerAdapter() {
            @Override
            public void onAnimationEnd(Animator animation) {
                super.onAnimationEnd(animation);
                view.setVisibility(View.GONE);
            }
        });

How to set cornerRadius for only top-left and top-right corner of a UIView?

In Swift 4.1 and Xcode 9.4.1

In iOS 11 this single line is enough:

detailsSubView.layer.maskedCorners = [.layerMinXMinYCorner, .layerMaxXMinYCorner]//Set your view here

See the complete code:

//In viewDidLoad
if #available(iOS 11.0, *) {
        detailsSubView.clipsToBounds = false
        detailsSubView.layer.cornerRadius = 10
        detailsSubView.layer.maskedCorners = [.layerMinXMinYCorner, .layerMaxXMinYCorner]
} else {
      //For lower versions
}

But for lower versions

let rectShape = CAShapeLayer()
    rectShape.bounds = detailsSubView.frame
    rectShape.position = detailsSubView.center
    rectShape.path = UIBezierPath(roundedRect: detailsSubView.bounds,    byRoundingCorners: [.topLeft , .topRight], cornerRadii: CGSize(width: 20, height: 20)).cgPath
    detailsSubView.layer.mask = rectShape

Complete code is.

if #available(iOS 11.0, *) {
    detailsSubView.clipsToBounds = false
    detailsSubView.layer.cornerRadius = 10
    detailsSubView.layer.maskedCorners = [.layerMinXMinYCorner, .layerMaxXMinYCorner]
} else {
    let rectShape = CAShapeLayer()
    rectShape.bounds = detailsSubView.frame
    rectShape.position = detailsSubView.center
    rectShape.path = UIBezierPath(roundedRect: detailsSubView.bounds,    byRoundingCorners: [.topLeft , .topRight], cornerRadii: CGSize(width: 20, height: 20)).cgPath
    detailsSubView.layer.mask = rectShape
}

If you are using AutoResizing in storyboard write this code in viewDidLayoutSubviews().

override func viewDidLayoutSubviews() {
    super.viewDidLayoutSubviews()

    if #available(iOS 11.0, *) {
        detailsSubView.clipsToBounds = false
        detailsSubView.layer.cornerRadius = 10
        detailsSubView.layer.maskedCorners = [.layerMinXMinYCorner, .layerMaxXMinYCorner]
    } else {
        let rectShape = CAShapeLayer()

How to run travis-ci locally

Travis-ci offers a new container-based infrastructure that uses docker. This can be very useful if you're trying to troubleshoot a travis-ci build by reproducing it locally. This is taken from Travis CI's documentation.

Troubleshooting Locally in a Docker Image

If you're having trouble tracking down the exact problem in a build it often helps to run the build locally. To do this you need to be using our container based infrastructure (ie, have sudo: false in your .travis.yml), and to know which Docker image you are using on Travis CI.

Running a Container Based Docker Image Locally

  1. Download and install the Docker Engine.
  2. Select an image from Docker Hub. If you're not using a language-specific image pick ci-ruby. Open a terminal and start an interactive Docker session using the image URL:

    docker run -it travisci/ubuntu-ruby:18.04 /bin/bash

  3. Switch to the travis user:

    su - travis

  4. Clone your git repository into the / folder of the image.
  5. Manually install any dependencies.
  6. Manually run your Travis CI build command.

How to test REST API using Chrome's extension "Advanced Rest Client"

The discoverability is dismal, but it's quite clever how Advanced Rest Client handles basic authentication. The shortcut abraham mentioned didn't work for me, but a little poking around revealed how it does it.

The first thing you need to do is add the Authorization header: menus

Then, a nifty little thing pops up when you focus the value input (note the "construct" box in the lower right): construct the auth value

Clicking it will bring up a box. It even does OAuth, if you want! convenient inputs

Tada! If you leave the value field blank when you click "construct," it will add the Basic part to it (I assume it will also add the necessary OAuth stuff, too, but I didn't try that, as my current needs were for basic authentication), so you don't need to do anything. fills in the field as needed

What is the purpose of "pip install --user ..."?

On macOS, the reason for using the --user flag is to make sure we don't corrupt the libraries the OS relies on. A conservative approach for many macOS users is to avoid installing or updating pip with a command that requires sudo. Thus, this includes installing to /usr/local/bin...

Ref: Installing python for Neovim (https://github.com/zchee/deoplete-jedi/wiki/Setting-up-Python-for-Neovim)

I'm not all clear why installing into /usr/local/bin is a risk on a Mac given the fact that the system only relies on python binaries in /Library/Frameworks/ and /usr/bin. I suspect it's because as noted above, installing into /usr/local/bin requires sudo which opens the door to making a costly mistake with the system libraries. Thus, installing into ~/.local/bin is a sure fire way to avoid this risk.

Ref: Using python on a Mac (https://docs.python.org/2/using/mac.html)

Finally, to the degree there is a benefit of installing packages into the /usr/local/bin, I wonder if it makes sense to change the owner of the directory from root to user? This would avoid having to use sudo while still protecting against making system-dependent changes.* Is this a security default a relic of how Unix systems were more often used in the past (as servers)? Or at minimum, just a good way to go for Mac users not hosting a server?

*Note: Mac's System Integrity Protection (SIP) feature also seems to protect the user from changing the system-dependent libraries.

How to redirect cin and cout to files?

Just write

#include <cstdio>
#include <iostream>
using namespace std;

int main()
{
    freopen("output.txt","w",stdout);
    cout<<"write in file";
    return 0;
}

Error:Execution failed for task ':ProjectName:mergeDebugResources'. > Crunching Cruncher *some file* failed, see logs

Additional to all answers, I think it could have similar problems. My Problem was caused by png.9 files. If this files, have a (in my case) too small stretching area with just a few pixels, the building failed with this error also. I have checked all these answers, but nothing helped. Giving a little bit bigger stretching area, solved the problem. I tested it many times, allways when I use small stretching areas it failed. So I am sure, it will help some poeple to make the stretch area a little bit bigger.

The second problem, but this is just an assumption, is the icon name (maybe only for png.9 files too). For examle, I used an image named folder_icon.9.png , with this one, it allways failed. Renaming it to other_folder_icon.9.png, it worked. So I think some names are used by the android system itself, maybe here is a problem too.

Fatal error compiling: invalid target release: 1.8 -> [Help 1]

Putting that in your .profile will dynamically take care of your $JAVA_HOME

export JAVA_HOME=$(/usr/libexec/java_home)

Close your shell afterwards, open a new one and test with

echo $JAVA_HOME

It should display something like

/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/jdk1.8.0_121.jdk/Contents/Home

If not, remove any other assignments of JAVA_HOME in your startup scripts. Remember, that these startup scripts start with a . so they are hidden and won't be included when using * wildcard, e.g. if you want to grep all files of your home directory, you need to:

grep -s JAVA_HOME ~/.* --exclude=.bash_history

How to use andWhere and orWhere in Doctrine?

Why not just

$q->where("a = 1");
$q->andWhere("b = 1 OR b = 2");
$q->andWhere("c = 1 OR d = 2");

EDIT: You can also use the Expr class (Doctrine2).

How do I change the background of a Frame in Tkinter?

You use ttk.Frame, bg option does not work for it. You should create style and apply it to the frame.

from tkinter import *
from tkinter.ttk import *

root = Tk()

s = Style()
s.configure('My.TFrame', background='red')

mail1 = Frame(root, style='My.TFrame')
mail1.place(height=70, width=400, x=83, y=109)
mail1.config()
root.mainloop()

What is the difference between static_cast<> and C style casting?

In short:

  1. static_cast<>() gives you a compile time checking ability, C-Style cast doesn't.
  2. static_cast<>() is more readable and can be spotted easily anywhere inside a C++ source code, C_Style cast is'nt.
  3. Intentions are conveyed much better using C++ casts.

More Explanation:

The static cast performs conversions between compatible types. It is similar to the C-style cast, but is more restrictive. For example, the C-style cast would allow an integer pointer to point to a char.

char c = 10;       // 1 byte
int *p = (int*)&c; // 4 bytes

Since this results in a 4-byte pointer ( a pointer to 4-byte datatype) pointing to 1 byte of allocated memory, writing to this pointer will either cause a run-time error or will overwrite some adjacent memory.

*p = 5; // run-time error: stack corruption

In contrast to the C-style cast, the static cast will allow the compiler to check that the pointer and pointee data types are compatible, which allows the programmer to catch this incorrect pointer assignment during compilation.

int *q = static_cast<int*>(&c); // compile-time error

Is it good practice to use the xor operator for boolean checks?

You could always just wrap it in a function to give it a verbose name:

public static boolean XOR(boolean A, boolean B) {
    return A ^ B;
}

But, it seems to me that it wouldn't be hard for anyone who didn't know what the ^ operator is for to Google it really quick. It's not going to be hard to remember after the first time. Since you asked for other uses, its common to use the XOR for bit masking.

You can also use XOR to swap the values in two variables without using a third temporary variable.

// Swap the values in A and B
A ^= B;
B ^= A;
A ^= B;

Here's a Stackoverflow question related to XOR swapping.

Setting up JUnit with IntelliJ IDEA

Basically, you only need junit.jar on the classpath - and here's a quick way to do it:

  1. Make sure you have a source folder (e.g. test) marked as a Test Root.

  2. Create a test, for example like this:

    public class MyClassTest {
        @Test
        public void testSomething() {

        }
    }

  3. Since you haven't configured junit.jar (yet), the @Test annotation will be marked as an error (red), hit f2 to navigate to it.

  4. Hit alt-enter and choose Add junit.jar to the classpath

There, you're done! Right-click on your test and choose Run 'MyClassTest' to run it and see the test results.

Maven Note: Altervatively, if you're using maven, at step 4 you can instead choose the option Add Maven Dependency..., go to the Search for artifact pane, type junit and take whichever version (e.g. 4.8 or 4.9).

The network adapter could not establish the connection - Oracle 11g

First check your listener is on or off. Go to net manager then Local -> service naming -> orcl. Then change your HOST NAME and put your PC name. Now go to LISTENER and change the HOST and put your PC name.

Why is datetime.strptime not working in this simple example?

You should be using datetime.datetime.strptime. Note that very old versions of Python (2.4 and older) don't have datetime.datetime.strptime; use time.strptime in that case.

How can I pass variable to ansible playbook in the command line?

ansible-playbook release.yml -e "version=1.23.45 other_variable=foo"

How to detect duplicate values in PHP array?

Perhaps something like this (untested code but should give you an idea)?

$new = array();

foreach ($array as $value)
{
    if (isset($new[$value]))
        $new[$value]++;
    else
        $new[$value] = 1;
}

Then you'll get a new array with the values as keys and their value is the number of times they existed in the original array.

Why should C++ programmers minimize use of 'new'?

One more point to all the above correct answers, it depends on what sort of programming you are doing. Kernel developing in Windows for example -> The stack is severely limited and you might not be able to take page faults like in user mode.

In such environments, new, or C-like API calls are prefered and even required.

Of course, this is merely an exception to the rule.

Download files in laravel using Response::download

File downloads are super simple in Laravel 5.

As @Ashwani mentioned Laravel 5 allows file downloads with response()->download() to return file for download. We no longer need to mess with any headers. To return a file we simply:

return response()->download(public_path('file_path/from_public_dir.pdf'));

from within the controller.

Reusable Download Route/Controller

Now let's make a reusable file download route and controller so we can server up any file in our public/files directory.

Create the controller:

php artisan make:controller --plain DownloadsController

Create the route in app/Http/routes.php:

Route::get('/download/{file}', 'DownloadsController@download');

Make download method in app/Http/Controllers/DownloadsController:

class DownloadsController extends Controller
{
  public function download($file_name) {
    $file_path = public_path('files/'.$file_name);
    return response()->download($file_path);
  }
}

Now simply drops some files in the public/files directory and you can server them up by linking to /download/filename.ext:

<a href="/download/filename.ext">File Name</a> // update to your own "filename.ext"

If you pulled in Laravel Collective's Html package you can use the Html facade:

{!! Html::link('download/filename.ext', 'File Name') !!}

Plotting a list of (x, y) coordinates in python matplotlib

If you want to plot a single line connecting all the points in the list

plt.plot(li[:])

plt.show()

This will plot a line connecting all the pairs in the list as points on a Cartesian plane from the starting of the list to the end. I hope that this is what you wanted.

Cannot connect to the Docker daemon on macOS

On macOS the docker binary is only a client and you cannot use it to run the docker daemon, because Docker daemon uses Linux-specific kernel features, therefore you can’t run Docker natively in OS X. So you have to install docker-machine in order to create VM and attach to it.

Install docker-machine on macOS

If you don't have docker-machine command yet, install it by using one of the following methods:

  • Using Brew command: brew install docker-machine docker.
  • Manually from Releases page:

    $ curl -L https://github.com/docker/machine/releases/download/v0.16.1/docker-machine-`uname -s`-`uname -m` >/usr/local/bin/docker-machine
    $ chmod +x /usr/local/bin/docker-machine

See: Get started with Docker for Mac.

Install Virtualbox

docker-machine relies on VirtualBox being installed and will fail if this isn't the case. If you already have VirtualBox, you can skip this step.

  • Using Homebrew: brew cask install virtualbox
  • Manually using the releases on Virtualbox.org

You will need to actively accept loading the Virtualbox kernel extension in the OS X Security panel and then proceed to restart the machine for the next commands not to fail with Error: VBoxNetAdpCtl: Error while adding new interface

Configure docker-machine on macOS

Create a default machine (if you don't have one, see: docker-machine ls):

docker-machine create --driver virtualbox default

Then set-up the environment for the Docker client:

eval "$(docker-machine env default)"

Then double-check by listing containers:

docker ps

See: Get started with Docker Machine and a local VM.

Display Records From MySQL Database using JTable in Java

If you need to work a lot with database in your code and you know the structure of your table, I suggest you do it as follow:

First of all you can define a class which will help you to make objects capable of keeping your table rows data. For example in my project I created a class named Document.java to keep data of a single document from my database and I made an array list of these objects to keep data of my table which is gain by a query.

package financialdocuments;

import java.lang.*;
import java.util.HashMap;

/**
 *
 * @author Administrator
 */
public class Document {

 private int document_number;
 private boolean document_type;
 private boolean document_status;
 private StringBuilder document_date;
 private StringBuilder document_statement;
 private int document_code_number;
 private int document_employee_number;
 private int document_client_number;
 private String document_employee_name;
 private String document_client_name;
 private long document_amount;
 private long document_payment_amount;

 HashMap<Integer,Activity> document_activity_hashmap;

public Document(int dn,boolean dt,boolean ds,String dd,String dst,int dcon,int den,int dcln,long da,String dena,String dcna){

    document_date = new StringBuilder(dd);
    document_date.setLength(10);
    document_date.setCharAt(4, '.');
    document_date.setCharAt(7, '.');
    document_statement = new StringBuilder(dst);
    document_statement.setLength(50);
    document_number = dn;
    document_type = dt;
    document_status = ds;
    document_code_number = dcon;
    document_employee_number = den;
    document_client_number = dcln;
    document_amount = da;
    document_employee_name = dena;
    document_client_name = dcna;

    document_payment_amount = 0;

    document_activity_hashmap = new HashMap<>();

}

public Document(int dn,boolean dt,boolean ds, long dpa){

    document_number = dn;
    document_type = dt;
    document_status = ds;

    document_payment_amount = dpa;

    document_activity_hashmap = new HashMap<>();

}

// Print document information
public void printDocumentInformation (){
    System.out.println("Document Number:" + document_number);
    System.out.println("Document Date:" + document_date);
    System.out.println("Document Type:" + document_type);
    System.out.println("Document Status:" + document_status);
    System.out.println("Document Statement:" + document_statement);
    System.out.println("Document Code Number:" + document_code_number);
    System.out.println("Document Client Number:" + document_client_number);
    System.out.println("Document Employee Number:" + document_employee_number);
    System.out.println("Document Amount:" + document_amount);
    System.out.println("Document Payment Amount:" + document_payment_amount);
    System.out.println("Document Employee Name:" + document_employee_name);
    System.out.println("Document Client Name:" + document_client_name);

}
}

Second of all, you can define a class to handle your database needs. For example I defined a class named DataBase.java which handles my connections to the database and my needed queries. And I instantiated an objected of it in my main class.

package financialdocuments;

import java.sql.Connection;
import java.sql.DriverManager;
import java.sql.ResultSet;
import java.sql.SQLException;
import java.sql.Statement;
import java.util.ArrayList;
import java.util.HashMap;
import java.util.logging.Level;
import java.util.logging.Logger;

/**
 *
 * @author Administrator
 */
public class DataBase {

/**
 *
 * Defining parameters and strings that are going to be used
 *
 */
//Connection connect;

// Tables which their datas are extracted at the beginning
HashMap<Integer,String> code_table;
HashMap<Integer,String> activity_table;
HashMap<Integer,String> client_table;
HashMap<Integer,String> employee_table;

// Resultset Returned by queries
private ResultSet result;

// Strings needed to set connection
String url = "jdbc:mysql://localhost:3306/financial_documents?useUnicode=yes&characterEncoding=UTF-8";
String dbName = "financial_documents";
String driver = "com.mysql.jdbc.Driver";
String userName = "root";
String password = "";

public DataBase(){

    code_table = new HashMap<>();
    activity_table = new HashMap<>();
    client_table = new HashMap<>();
    employee_table = new HashMap<>();
    Initialize();

}

/**

 */

        throw new IllegalStateException("Cannot find the driver in the classpath!", e);
    }

    System.out.println("Connecting database...");

try (Connection connect = DriverManager.getConnection(url,userName,password)) {
            System.out.println("Database connected!");
            //Get tables' information
            selectCodeTableQueryArray(connect);
           // System.out.println("HshMap Print:");
           // printCodeTableQueryArray();

            selectActivityTableQueryArray(connect);

    }catch (SQLException e) {
        throw new IllegalStateException("Cannot connect the database!", e);

What is the maximum size of a web browser's cookie's key?

Not completely entirely a direct answer to the original question, but relevant for the curious quickly trying to visually understand their cookie information storage planning without implementing a complex limiter algorithm, this string is 4096 ASCII character bytes:

But why not create a Period value-object class to handle this complexity? That way you can ensure other constraints, like validating start vs end datetimes. Something like:

using System;
using System.Collections.Generic;
using System.Linq;
using System.Text;

namespace Whatever.Domain.Timing {
    public class Period {
        public DateTime StartDateTime {get; private set;}
        public DateTime EndDateTime {get; private set;}

        public Period(DateTime StartDateTime, DateTime EndDateTime) {
            if (StartDateTime > EndDateTime)
                throw new InvalidPeriodException("End DateTime Must Be Greater Than Start DateTime!");
            this.StartDateTime = StartDateTime;
            this.EndDateTime = EndDateTime;
        }

        public bool Overlaps(Period anotherPeriod){
            return (this.StartDateTime < anotherPeriod.EndDateTime && anotherPeriod.StartDateTime < this.EndDateTime)
        }

        public TimeSpan GetDuration(){
            return EndDateTime - StartDateTime;
        }

    }

    public class InvalidPeriodException : Exception {
        public InvalidPeriodException(string Message) : base(Message) { }
    }
}

That way you will be able to individually compare each period...

resize font to fit in a div (on one line)

CSS no, Javascript yes

There's no way you could do this using CSS, but you can do it in javascript/jQuery. To help you with your pseudo code because you already know what to do. It's just that you don't know how to detect excess width.

The best way would be to have a DIV with following (at least) style:

position: absolute;
visibility: hidden;
white-space: nowrap;
font-family: /* same as your title's */

then copy your text to it and set some starting font size. Then you can iterate through your while loop and stop when div's width is appropriate. Then set calculated font size to your original title.

This way this checking will be hidden from user's eyes and it will therefore work faster as well.

BTW: This is the usual way how auto growing textarea scripts work. They use dummy divs with same style settings as the original text area and adjust area's height as the user types in text. So Text area can be quite small at first but if user types in lots of text it will auto grow to accommodate content.

While loop optimization

You could optimize your while loop to decrease the number of iterations considerably by doing this:

  1. Set a starting font size.
  2. get test DIV's width.
  3. calculate width factor between orig_div and test_div.
  4. adjust font size by this factor rather than increase/decrease by one unit
  5. test test_div width

Correct way to find max in an Array in Swift

Given:

let numbers = [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]

Swift 3:

numbers.min() // equals 1
numbers.max() // equals 5

Swift 2:

numbers.minElement() // equals 1
numbers.maxElement() // equals 5

Why is my CSS bundling not working with a bin deployed MVC4 app?

As an addendum to the existing answers, none of which worked for me I found my solution HERE:

https://bundletransformer.codeplex.com/discussions/429707

The solution was to

  1. right click the .less files in visual studio
  2. Select properties
  3. Mark the Build Action as Content
  4. Redeploy

I did NOT need to remove extensionless handlers (as can be found in other solutions on the internet)

I did NOT have to add the <add name="BundleModule" type="System.Web.Optimization.BundleModule" /> web.config setting.

Hope this helps!

SFTP file transfer using Java JSch

The most trivial way to upload a file over SFTP with JSch is:

JSch jsch = new JSch();
Session session = jsch.getSession(user, host);
session.setPassword(password);
session.connect();

ChannelSftp sftpChannel = (ChannelSftp) session.openChannel("sftp");
sftpChannel.connect();

sftpChannel.put("C:/source/local/path/file.zip", "/target/remote/path/file.zip");

Similarly for a download:

sftpChannel.get("/source/remote/path/file.zip", "C:/target/local/path/file.zip");

You may need to deal with UnknownHostKey exception.

ORA-00904: invalid identifier

Your problem is those pernicious double quotes.

Oracle SQL allows us to ignore the case of database object names provided we either create them with names all in upper case, or without using double quotes. If we use mixed case or lower case in the script and wrapped the identifiers in double quotes we are condemned to using double quotes and the precise case whenever we refer to the object or its attributes:

SQL> select count(*) from PS_TBL_DEPARTMENT_DETAILS
  2  where Department_Code = 'BAH'
  3  /
where Department_Code = 'BAH'
      *
ERROR at line 2:
ORA-00904: "DEPARTMENT_CODE": invalid identifier

SQL> select count(*) from PS_TBL_DEPARTMENT_DETAILS
  2  where "Department_Code" = 'BAH'
  3  /

  COUNT(*)
----------
         0

SQL>

tl;dr

don't use double quotes in DDL scripts

(I know most third party code generators do, but they are disciplined enough to put all their object names in UPPER CASE.)

The reverse is also true. If we create the table without using double-quotes …

create table PS_TBL_DEPARTMENT_DETAILS
( company_code VARCHAR2(255),
  company_name VARCHAR2(255),
  Cost_Center_Number VARCHAR2(255))
;

… we can reference it and its columns in whatever case takes our fancy:

select * from ps_tbl_department_details

… or

select * from PS_TBL_DEPARTMENT_DETAILS;

… or

select * from PS_Tbl_Department_Details
where COMAPNY_CODE = 'ORCL'
and cost_center_number = '0980'

Reusing a PreparedStatement multiple times

The second way is a tad more efficient, but a much better way is to execute them in batches:

public void executeBatch(List<Entity> entities) throws SQLException {
    try (
        Connection connection = dataSource.getConnection();
        PreparedStatement statement = connection.prepareStatement(SQL);
    ) {
        for (Entity entity : entities) {
            statement.setObject(1, entity.getSomeProperty());
            // ...

            statement.addBatch();
        }

        statement.executeBatch();
    }
}

You're however dependent on the JDBC driver implementation how many batches you could execute at once. You may for example want to execute them every 1000 batches:

public void executeBatch(List<Entity> entities) throws SQLException {
    try (
        Connection connection = dataSource.getConnection();
        PreparedStatement statement = connection.prepareStatement(SQL);
    ) {
        int i = 0;

        for (Entity entity : entities) {
            statement.setObject(1, entity.getSomeProperty());
            // ...

            statement.addBatch();
            i++;

            if (i % 1000 == 0 || i == entities.size()) {
                statement.executeBatch(); // Execute every 1000 items.
            }
        }
    }
}

As to the multithreaded environments, you don't need to worry about this if you acquire and close the connection and the statement in the shortest possible scope inside the same method block according the normal JDBC idiom using try-with-resources statement as shown in above snippets.

If those batches are transactional, then you'd like to turn off autocommit of the connection and only commit the transaction when all batches are finished. Otherwise it may result in a dirty database when the first bunch of batches succeeded and the later not.

public void executeBatch(List<Entity> entities) throws SQLException {
    try (Connection connection = dataSource.getConnection()) {
        connection.setAutoCommit(false);

        try (PreparedStatement statement = connection.prepareStatement(SQL)) {
            // ...

            try {
                connection.commit();
            } catch (SQLException e) {
                connection.rollback();
                throw e;
            }
        }
    }
}

Android canvas draw rectangle

Try paint.setStyle(Paint.Style.STROKE)?

There are no primary or candidate keys in the referenced table that match the referencing column list in the foreign key

BookTitle have a Composite key. so if the key of BookTitle is referenced as a foreign key you have to bring the complete composite key.

So to resolve the problem you need to add the complete composite key in the BookCopy. So add ISBN column as well. and they at the end.

foreign key (ISBN, Title) references BookTitle (ISBN, Title)

calculating the difference in months between two dates

I would do it like this:

static int TotelMonthDifference(this DateTime dtThis, DateTime dtOther)
{
    int intReturn = 0;

    dtThis = dtThis.Date.AddDays(-(dtThis.Day-1));
    dtOther = dtOther.Date.AddDays(-(dtOther.Day-1));

    while (dtOther.Date > dtThis.Date)
    {
        intReturn++;
        dtThis = dtThis.AddMonths(1);
    }

    return intReturn;
}

SQL Server IIF vs CASE

IIF is a non-standard T-SQL function. It was added to SQL SERVER 2012, so that Access could migrate to SQL Server without refactoring the IIF's to CASE before hand. Once the Access db is fully migrated into SQL Server, you can refactor.

Could not load file or assembly '' or one of its dependencies

Juntos answer is correct but you should also consider:

For the unity v2.1.505.2 different AssemblyVersion and AssemblyFileVersion attributes are specified:

enter image description here

AssemblyFileVersion is used by the NuGet but CLR does not care about it! CLR is going to use only AssemblyVersion!

So your redirects should be applied to a version that specified in AssemblyVersion attribute. So 2.1.505.0 should be used

<assemblyBinding xmlns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:asm.v1">
 <assemblyIdentity name="Microsoft.Practices.Unity" publicKeyToken="31bf3856ad364e35" culture="neutral" />

Disabling right click on images using jquery

what is your purpose of disabling the right click. problem with any technique is that there is always a way to go around them. the console for firefox (firebug) and chrome allow for unbinding of that event. or if you want the image to be protected one could always just take a look at their temporary cache for the images.

If you want to create your own contextual menu the preventDefault is fine. Just pick your battles here. not even a big JavaScript library like tnyMCE works on all browsers... and that is not because it's not possible ;-).

$(document).bind("contextmenu",function(e){
  e.preventDefault()
});

Personally I'm more in for an open internet. Native browser behavior should not be hindered by the pages interactions. I am sure that other ways can be found to interact that are not the right click.

How to hide command output in Bash

A process normally has two outputs to screen: stdout (standard out), and stderr (standard error).

Normally informational messages go to sdout, and errors and alerts go to stderr.

You can turn off stdout for a command by doing

MyCommand >/dev/null

and turn off stderr by doing:

MyCommand 2>/dev/null

If you want both off, you can do:

MyCommand 2>&1 >/dev/null

The 2>&1 says send stderr to the same place as stdout.

                            }
                        });

Does JavaScript guarantee object property order?

Major Difference between Object and MAP with Example :

it's Order of iteration in loop, In Map it follows the order as it was set while creation whereas in OBJECT does not.

SEE: OBJECT

const obj = {};
obj.prop1 = "Foo";
obj.prop2 = "Bar";
obj['1'] = "day";
console.log(obj)

**OUTPUT: {1: "day", prop1: "Foo", prop2: "Bar"}**

MAP

    const myMap = new Map()
    // setting the values
    myMap.set("foo", "value associated with 'a string'")
    myMap.set("Bar", 'value associated with keyObj')
    myMap.set("1", 'value associated with keyFunc')

OUTPUT:
**1.    ?0: Array[2]
1.   0: "foo"
2.   1: "value associated with 'a string'"
2.  ?1: Array[2]
1.   0: "Bar"
2. 1: "value associated with keyObj"
3.  ?2: Array[2]
1.   0: "1"
2. 1: "value associated with keyFunc"**

Stop a gif animation onload, on mouseover start the activation

No, you can't control the animation of the images.

You would need two versions of each image, one that is animated, and one that's not. On hover you can easily change from one image to another.

Example:

$(function(){
  $('img').each(function(e){
    var src = $(e).attr('src');
    $(e).hover(function(){
      $(this).attr('src', src.replace('.gif', '_anim.gif'));
    }, function(){
      $(this).attr('src', src);
    });
  });
});

Update:

Time goes by, and possibilities change. As kritzikatzi pointed out, having two versions of the image is not the only option, you can apparently use a canvas element to create a copy of the first frame of the animation. Note that this doesn't work in all browsers, IE 8 for example doesn't support the canvas element.

How do you configure HttpOnly cookies in tomcat / java webapps?

For cookies that I am explicitly setting, I switched to use SimpleCookie provided by Apache Shiro. It does not inherit from javax.servlet.http.Cookie so it takes a bit more juggling to get everything to work correctly however it does provide a property set HttpOnly and it works with Servlet 2.5.

For setting a cookie on a response, rather than doing response.addCookie(cookie) you need to do cookie.saveTo(request, response).

How do I set a JLabel's background color?

Use

label.setOpaque(true);

Otherwise the background is not painted, since the default of opaque is false for JLabel.

From the JavaDocs:

If true the component paints every pixel within its bounds. Otherwise, the component may not paint some or all of its pixels, allowing the underlying pixels to show through.

How to block calls in android

In android-N, this feature is included in it. check Number-blocking update for android N

Android N now supports number-blocking in the platform and provides a framework API to let service providers maintain a blocked-number list. The default SMS app, the default phone app, and provider apps can read from and write to the blocked-number list. The list is not accessible to other app.

advantage of are:

  1. Numbers blocked on calls are also blocked on texts
  2. Blocked numbers can persist across resets and devices through the Backup & Restore feature
  3. Multiple apps can use the same blocked numbers list

For more information, see android.provider.BlockedNumberContract

Update an existing project.

To compile your app against the Android N platform, you need to use the Java 8 Developer Kit (JDK 8), and in order to use some tools with Android Studio 2.1, you need to install the Java 8 Runtime Environment (JRE 8).

Open the build.gradle file for your module and update the values as follows:

android {
  compileSdkVersion 'android-N'
  buildToolsVersion 24.0.0 rc1
  ...

  defaultConfig {
     minSdkVersion 'N'
     targetSdkVersion 'N'
     ...
  }
  ...
}

Using Google maps API v3 how do I get LatLng with a given address?

If you need to do this on the backend you can use the following URL structure:

https://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/geocode/json?address=[STREET_ADDRESS]&key=[YOUR_API_KEY]

Sample PHP code using curl:

$curl = curl_init();

curl_setopt($curl, CURLOPT_URL, 'https://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/geocode/json?address=' . rawurlencode($address) . '&key=' . $api_key);

curl_setopt ($curl, CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER, 1);

$json = curl_exec($curl);

curl_close ($curl);

$obj = json_decode($json);

See additional documentation for more details and expected json response.

The docs provide sample output and will assist you in getting your own API key in order to be able to make requests to the Google Maps Geocoding API.

Force overwrite of local file with what's in origin repo?

I believe what you are looking for is "git restore".

The easiest way is to remove the file locally, and then execute the git restore command for that file:

$ rm file.txt
$ git restore file.txt

I/O error(socket error): [Errno 111] Connection refused

I'm not exactly sure what's causing this. You can try looking in your socket.py (mine is a different version, so line numbers from the trace don't match, and I'm afraid some other details might not match as well).

Anyway, it seems like a good practice to put your url fetching code in a try: ... except: ... block, and handle this with a short pause and a retry. The URL you're trying to fetch may be down, or too loaded, and that's stuff you'll only be able to handle in with a retry anyway.

How to pass parameters to a Script tag?

JQuery has a way to pass parameters from HTML to javascript:

Put this in the myhtml.html file:

<!-- Import javascript -->
<script src="//code.jquery.com/jquery-1.11.2.min.js"></script>
<!-- Invoke a different javascript file called subscript.js -->
<script id="myscript" src="subscript.js" video_filename="foobar.mp4">/script>

In the same directory make a subscript.js file and put this in there:

//Use jquery to look up the tag with the id of 'myscript' above. Get
//the attribute called video_filename, stuff it into variable filename.
var filename = $('#myscript').attr("video_filename");

//print filename out to screen.
document.write(filename);

Analyze Result:

Loading the myhtml.html page has 'foobar.mp4' print to screen. The variable called video_filename was passed from html to javascript. Javascript printed it to screen, and it appeared as embedded into the html in the parent.

Time calculation in php (add 10 hours)?

You can simply make use of the DateTime class , OOP Style.

<?php
$date = new DateTime('1:00:00');
$date->add(new DateInterval('PT10H'));
echo $date->format('H:i:s a'); //"prints" 11:00:00 a.m

Simple working Example of json.net in VB.net

Your class JSON_result does not match your JSON string. Note how the object JSON_result is going to represent is wrapped in another property named "Venue".

So either create a class for that, e.g.:

Public Class Container
    Public Venue As JSON_result
End Class

Public Class JSON_result
    Public ID As Integer
    Public Name As String
    Public NameWithTown As String
    Public NameWithDestination As String
    Public ListingType As String
End Class

Dim obj = JsonConvert.DeserializeObject(Of Container)(...your_json...)

or change your JSON string to

{
    "ID": 3145,
    "Name": "Big Venue, Clapton",
    "NameWithTown": "Big Venue, Clapton, London",
    "NameWithDestination": "Big Venue, Clapton, London",
    "ListingType": "A",
    "Address": {
        "Address1": "Clapton Raod",
        "Address2": "",
        "Town": "Clapton",
        "County": "Greater London",
        "Postcode": "PO1 1ST",
        "Country": "United Kingdom",
        "Region": "Europe"
    },
    "ResponseStatus": {
        "ErrorCode": "200",
        "Message": "OK"
    }
}

or use e.g. a ContractResolver to parse the JSON string.

How to connect TFS in Visual Studio code

It seems that the extension cannot be found anymore using "Visual Studio Team Services". Instead, by following the link in Using Visual Studio Code & Team Foundation Version Control on "Get the TFVC plugin working in Visual Studio Code" you get to the Azure Repos Extension for Visual Studio Code GitHub. There it is explained that you now have to look for "Team Azure Repos".

Also, please note, that with the new Settings editor in Visual Studio Code the additional slashes do not have to be added. The path to tf.exe for VS 2017 - if specified using the "user friendly" Settings editor - would be just

C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio\2017\Professional\Common7\IDE\CommonExtensions\Microsoft\TeamFoundation\Team Explorer\TF.exe

What good are SQL Server schemas?

They can also provide a kind of naming collision protection for plugin data. For example, the new Change Data Capture feature in SQL Server 2008 puts the tables it uses in a separate cdc schema. This way, they don't have to worry about a naming conflict between a CDC table and a real table used in the database, and for that matter can deliberately shadow the names of the real tables.

what is right way to do API call in react js?

S3 Static Website Hosting Route All Paths to Index.html

since the problem is still there I though I throw in another solution. My case was that I wanted to auto deploy all pull requests to s3 for testing before merge making them accessible on [mydomain]/pull-requests/[pr number]/
(ex. www.example.com/pull-requests/822/)

To the best of my knowledge non of s3 rules scenarios would allow to have multiple projects in one bucket using html5 routing so while above most voted suggestion works for a project in root folder, it doesn't for multiple projects in own subfolders.

So I pointed my domain to my server where following nginx config did the job

location /pull-requests/ {
    try_files $uri @get_files;
}
location @get_files {
    rewrite ^\/pull-requests\/(.*) /$1 break;
    proxy_pass http://<your-amazon-bucket-url>;
    proxy_intercept_errors on;
    recursive_error_pages on;
    error_page 404 = @get_routes;
}

location @get_routes {
    rewrite ^\/(\w+)\/(.+) /$1/ break;
    proxy_pass http://<your-amazon-bucket-url>;
    proxy_intercept_errors on;
    recursive_error_pages on;
    error_page 404 = @not_found;
}

location @not_found {
    return 404;
}

it tries to get the file and if not found assumes it is html5 route and tries that. If you have a 404 angular page for not found routes you will never get to @not_found and get you angular 404 page returned instead of not found files, which could be fixed with some if rule in @get_routes or something.

I have to say I don't feel too comfortable in area of nginx config and using regex for that matter, I got this working with some trial and error so while this works I am sure there is room for improvement and please do share your thoughts.

Note: remove s3 redirection rules if you had them in S3 config.

and btw works in Safari

jQuery pass more parameters into callback

A more general solution for sending asynchronous requests using the .ajax() jQuery API and closures to pass additional parameters to the callback function:

function sendRequest(method, url, content, callback) {
    // additional data for the callback
    var request = {
        method: method,
        url: url
    };

    $.ajax({
        type: method,
        url: url,
        data: content
     }).done(function(data, status, xhr) {
        if (callback) callback(xhr.status, data, request);
     }).fail(function(xhr, status) {
        if (callback) callback(xhr.status, xhr.response, request);
     });
};

or you can use

String no_o = hi.replace("o", "");

How do I unload (reload) a Python module?

Edit (Answer V2)

The solution from before is good for just getting the reset information, but it will not change all the references (more than reload but less then required). To actually set all the references as well, I had to go into the garbage collector, and rewrite the references there. Now it works like a charm!

Note that this will not work if the GC is turned off, or if reloading data that's not monitored by the GC. If you don't want to mess with the GC, the original answer might be enough for you.

New code:

import importlib
import inspect
import gc
from weakref import ref

def reset_module(module, inner_modules_also=True):
    """
    This function is a stronger form of importlib's `reload` function. What it does, is that aside from reloading a
    module, it goes to the old instance of the module, and sets all the (not read-only) attributes, functions and classes
    to be the reloaded-module's
    :param module: The module to reload (module reference, not the name)

Original Answer

As written in @bobince's answer, if there's already a reference to that module in another module (especially if it was imported with the as keyword like import numpy as np), that instance will not be overwritten.

This proved quite problematic to me when applying tests that required a "clean-slate" state of the configuration modules, so I've written a function named reset_module that uses importlib's reload function and recursively overwrites all the declared module's attributes. It has been tested with Python version 3.6.

import importlib
import inspect
from enum import EnumMeta

_readonly_attrs = {'__annotations__', '__call__', '__class__', '__closure__', '__code__', '__defaults__', '__delattr__',
               '__dict__', '__dir__', '__doc__', '__eq__', '__format__', '__func__', '__ge__', '__get__',
               '__getattribute__', '__globals__', '__gt__', '__hash__', '__init__', '__init_subclass__',
               '__kwdefaults__', '__le__', '__lt__', '__module__', '__name__', '__ne__', '__new__', '__qualname__',
               '__reduce__', '__reduce_ex__', '__repr__', '__self__', '__setattr__', '__sizeof__', '__str__',
               '__subclasshook__', '__weakref__', '__members__', '__mro__', '__itemsize__', '__isabstractmethod__',
               '__basicsize__', '__base__'}

def reset_module(module, inner_modules_also=True):
    """
    This function is a stronger form of importlib's `reload` function. What it does, is that aside from reloading a
    module, it goes to the old instance of the module, and sets all the (not read-only) attributes, functions and classes
    to be the reloaded-module's

    :param inner_modules_also: Whether to treat ths module as a package as well, and reload all the modules within it.
    """

    new_module = importlib.reload(module)

    reset_items = set()

    # For the case when the module is actually a package
    if inner_modules_also:
        submods = {submod for _, submod in inspect.getmembers(module)
                   if (type(submod).__name__ == 'module') and (submod.__package__.startswith(module.__name__))}
        for submod in submods:
            reset_module(submod, True)

    _reset_item_recursively(module, new_module, module.__name__, reset_items)

def _reset_item_recursively(item, new_item, module_name, reset_items=None):
    if reset_items is None:
        reset_items = set()

    attr_names = set(dir(item)) - _readonly_attrs

    for sitem_name in attr_names:

        sitem = getattr(item, sitem_name)
        new_sitem = getattr(new_item, sitem_name)

        try:
            # Set the item
            setattr(item, sitem_name, new_sitem)

            try:
                # Will work for classes and functions defined in that module.
                mod_name = sitem.__module__
            except AttributeError:
                mod_name = None

            # If this item was defined within this module, deep-reset
            if (mod_name is None) or (mod_name != module_name) or (id(sitem) in reset_items) \
                    or isinstance(sitem, EnumMeta): # Deal with enums
                continue

            reset_items.add(id(sitem))
            _reset_item_recursively(sitem, new_sitem, module_name, reset_items)
        except Exception as ex:
            raise Exception(sitem_name) from ex

Note: Use with care! Using these on non-peripheral modules (modules that define externally-used classes, for example) might lead to internal problems in Python (such as pickling/un-pickling issues).

How to use ClassLoader.getResources() correctly?

Here is code based on bestsss' answer:

How to use AND in IF Statement

If there are no typos in the question, you got the conditions wrong:

You said this:

IF cells (i,"A") contains the text 'Miami'

...but your code says:

If Cells(i, "A") <> "Miami"

--> <> means that the value of the cell is not equal to "Miami", so you're not checking what you think you are checking.

I guess you want this instead:

If Cells(i, "A") like "*Miami*"

EDIT:

Sorry, but I can't really help you more. As I already said in a comment, I'm no Excel VBA expert.
Normally I would open Excel now and try your code myself, but I don't even have Excel on any of my machines at home (I use OpenOffice).

Just one general thing: can you identify the row that does not work?
Maybe this helps someone else to answer the question.

Does it ever execute (or at least try to execute) the Cells(i, "C").Value = "BA" line?
Or is the If Cells(i, "A") like "*Miami*" stuff already False?
If yes, try checking just one cell and see if that works.

jQuery: If this HREF contains

It doesn't work because it's syntactically nonsensical. You simply can't do that in JavaScript like that.

You can, however, use jQuery:

  if ($(this).is('[href$=?]'))

You can also just look at the "href" value:

  if (/\?$/.test(this.href))

Simple if else onclick then do?

You should use onclick method because the function run once when the page is loaded and no button will be clicked then

So you have to add an even which run every time the user press any key to add the changes to the div background

So the function should be something like this

htmlelement.onclick() = function(){
    //Do the changes
}

So your code has to look something like this :

var box = document.getElementById("box");
var yes = document.getElementById("yes");
var no = document.getElementById("no");

yes.onclick = function(){
    box.style.backgroundColor = "red";
}

no.onclick = function(){
    box.style.backgroundColor = "green";
}

This is meaning that when #yes button is clicked the color of the div is red and when the #no button is clicked the background is green

Truncate a string straight JavaScript

Thought I would give Sugar.js a mention. It has a truncate method that is pretty smart.

From the documentation:

Truncates a string. Unless split is true, truncate will not split words up, and instead discard the word where the truncation occurred.

Example:

'just sittin on the dock of the bay'.truncate(20)

Output:

just sitting on...

Convert wchar_t to char

assert is for ensuring that something is true in a debug mode, without it having any effect in a release build. Better to use an if statement and have an alternate plan for characters that are outside the range, unless the only way to get characters outside the range is through a program bug.

Also, depending on your character encoding, you might find a difference between the Unicode characters 0x80 through 0xff and their char version.

How to get my project path?

You can use

string wanted_path = Path.GetDirectoryName(Path.GetDirectoryName(System.IO.Directory.GetCurrentDirectory()));

How to count the number of columns in a table using SQL?

select count(*)
from user_tab_columns
where table_name='MYTABLE' --use upper case

Instead of uppercase you can use lower function. Ex: select count(*) from user_tab_columns where lower(table_name)='table_name';

How to restore the permissions of files and directories within git if they have been modified?

The easiest thing to do is to just change the permissions back. As @kroger noted git only tracks executable bits. So you probably just need to run chmod -x filename to fix it (or +x if that's what's needed.

How to send password using sftp batch file

If you are generating a heap of commands to be run, then call that script from a terminal, you can try the following.

sftp login@host < /path/to/command/list

You will then be asked to enter your password (as per normal) however all the commands in the script run after that.

This is clearly not a completely automated option that can be used in a cron job, but it can be used from a terminal.

php/mySQL on XAMPP: password for phpMyAdmin and mysql_connect different?

You need to change the password directly in the database because at mysql the users and their profiles are saved in the database.

So there are several ways. At phpMyAdmin you simple go to user admin, choose root and change the password.

How to pass parameter to a promise function

Wrap your Promise inside a function or it will start to do its job right away. Plus, you can pass parameters to the function:

var some_function = function(username, password)
{
 return new Promise(function(resolve, reject)
 {
  /*stuff using username, password*/
  if ( /* everything turned out fine */ )
  {
   resolve("Stuff worked!");
  }
  else
  {
   reject(Error("It broke"));
  }
 });
}

Then, use it:

some_module.some_function(username, password).then(function(uid)
{
 // stuff
})

ES6:

const some_function = (username, password) =>
{
 return new Promise((resolve, reject) =>
 {
  /*stuff using username, password*/

  if ( /* everything turned out fine */ )
  {
   resolve("Stuff worked!");
  }
  else
  {
   reject(Error("It broke"));
  }
 });
};

Use:

some_module.some_function(username, password).then(uid =>
{
 // stuff
});

How do I add BundleConfig.cs to my project?

BundleConfig is nothing more than bundle configuration moved to separate file. It used to be part of app startup code (filters, bundles, routes used to be configured in one class)

To add this file, first you need to add the Microsoft.AspNet.Web.Optimization nuget package to your web project:

Install-Package Microsoft.AspNet.Web.Optimization

Then under the App_Start folder create a new cs file called BundleConfig.cs. Here is what I have in my mine (ASP.NET MVC 5, but it should work with MVC 4):

using System.Web;
using System.Web.Optimization;

namespace CodeRepository.Web
{
    public class BundleConfig
    {
        // For more information on bundling, visit http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=301862
        public static void RegisterBundles(BundleCollection bundles)
        {
            bundles.Add(new ScriptBundle("~/bundles/jquery").Include(
                        "~/Scripts/jquery-{version}.js"));

            bundles.Add(new ScriptBundle("~/bundles/jqueryval").Include(
                        "~/Scripts/jquery.validate*"));

            // Use the development version of Modernizr to develop with and learn from. Then, when you're
            // ready for production, use the build tool at http://modernizr.com to pick only the tests you need.
            bundles.Add(new ScriptBundle("~/bundles/modernizr").Include(
                        "~/Scripts/modernizr-*"));

            bundles.Add(new ScriptBundle("~/bundles/bootstrap").Include(
                      "~/Scripts/bootstrap.js",
                      "~/Scripts/respond.js"));

            bundles.Add(new StyleBundle("~/Content/css").Include(
                      "~/Content/bootstrap.css",
                      "~/Content/site.css"));
        }
    }
}

Then modify your Global.asax and add a call to RegisterBundles() in Application_Start():

using System.Web.Optimization;

protected void Application_Start()
{
    AreaRegistration.RegisterAllAreas();
    RouteConfig.RegisterRoutes(RouteTable.Routes);
    BundleConfig.RegisterBundles(BundleTable.Bundles);
}

// 2. Index: check the index of the first instance of substr in str, or -1 if substr is not present

fmt.Println(i) // 0

// 3. Split by substr and check len of the slice, or length is 1 if substr is not present
ss := strings.Split(str, substr)
fmt.Println(len(ss)) // 2

// 4. Check number of non-overlapping instances of substr in str
c := strings.Count(str, substr)
fmt.Println(c) // 1

// 5. RegExp
matched, _ := regexp.MatchString(substr, str)
fmt.Println(matched) // true

// 6. Compiled RegExp
re = regexp.MustCompile(substr)
res = re.MatchString(str)

CSS override rules and specificity

The specificity is calculated based on the amount of id, class and tag selectors in your rule. Id has the highest specificity, then class, then tag. Your first rule is now more specific than the second one, since they both have a class selector, but the first one also has two tag selectors.

To make the second one override the first one, you can make more specific by adding information of it's parents:

table.rule1 tr td.rule2 {
    background-color: #ffff00;
}

Here is a nice article for more information on selector precedence.

Is there any way to have a fieldset width only be as wide as the controls in them?

Unfortunately neither display:inline-block nor width:0px works in Internet Explorer up to version 8. I have not tried Internet Explorer 9. Much as I would like to ignore Internet Explorer, I can't.

The only option that works on Firefox and Internet Explorer 8 is float:left. The only slight drawback is that you have to remember to use clear:both on the element that follows the form. Of course, it will be very obvious if you forget ;-)

Fragments within Fragments

If you find your nested fragment not being removed or being duplicated (eg. on Activity restart, on screen rotate) try changing:

transaction.add(R.id.placeholder, newFragment);

to

transaction.replace(R.id.placeholder, newFragment);

If above doesn't help, try:

Fragment f = getChildFragmentManager().findFragmentById(R.id.placeholder);

FragmentTransaction transaction = getChildFragmentManager().beginTransaction();

if (f == null) {
    Log.d(TAG, "onCreateView: fragment doesn't exist");
    newFragment= new MyFragmentType();
    transaction.add(R.id.placeholder, newFragment);
} else {
    Log.d(TAG, "onCreateView: fragment already exists");
    transaction.replace(R.id.placeholder, f);
}
transaction.commit();

Python Script Uploading files via FTP

I just answered a similar question here IMHO, if your FTP server is able to communicate with Fabric please us Fabric. It is far better than doing raw ftp.

I have an FTP account from dotgeek.com so I am not sure if this will work for other FTP accounts.

#!/usr/bin/python

from fabric.api import run, env, sudo, put

env.user = 'username'
env.hosts = ['ftp_host_name',]     # such as ftp.google.com

def copy():
    # assuming i have wong_8066.zip in the same directory as this script
    put('wong_8066.zip', '/www/public/wong_8066.zip')

save the file as fabfile.py and run fab copy locally.

yeukhon@yeukhon-P5E-VM-DO:~$ fab copy2
[1.ai] Executing task 'copy2'
[1.ai] Login password:
[1.ai] put: wong_8066.zip -> /www/public/wong_8066.zip

Done.
Disconnecting from 1.ai... done.

Once again, if you don't want to input password all the time, just add

env.password = 'my_password'

Why aren't python nested functions called closures?

The question has already been answered by aaronasterling

However, someone might be interested in how the variables are stored under the hood.

Before coming to the snippet:

Closures are functions that inherit variables from their enclosing environment. When you pass a function callback as an argument to another function that will do I/O, this callback function will be invoked later, and this function will — almost magically — remember the context in which it was declared, along with all the variables available in that context.

  • If a function does not use free variables it doesn't form a closure.

  • If there is another inner level which uses free variables -- all previous levels save the lexical environment ( example at the end )

  • function attributes func_closure in python < 3.X or __closure__ in python > 3.X save the free variables.

  • Every function in python has this closure attributes, but it doesn't save any content if there is no free variables.

example: of closure attributes but no content inside as there is no free variable.

>>> def foo():
...     def fii():
...         pass
...     return fii
...
>>> f = foo()
>>> f.func_closure
>>> 'func_closure' in dir(f)
True
>>>

NB: FREE VARIABLE IS MUST TO CREATE A CLOSURE.

I will explain using the same snippet as above:

>>> def make_printer(msg):
...     def printer():
...         print msg
...     return printer
...
>>> printer = make_printer('Foo!')
>>> printer()  #Output: Foo!

And all Python functions have a closure attribute so let's examine the enclosing variables associated with a closure function.

Here is the attribute func_closure for the function printer

>>> 'func_closure' in dir(printer)
True
>>> printer.func_closure
(<cell at 0x108154c90: str object at 0x108151de0>,)
>>>

The closure attribute returns a tuple of cell objects which contain details of the variables defined in the enclosing scope.

The first element in the func_closure which could be None or a tuple of cells that contain bindings for the function’s free variables and it is read-only.

>>> dir(printer.func_closure[0])
['__class__', '__cmp__', '__delattr__', '__doc__', '__format__', '__getattribute__',
 '__hash__', '__init__', '__new__', '__reduce__', '__reduce_ex__', '__repr__',
 '__setattr__',  '__sizeof__', '__str__', '__subclasshook__', 'cell_contents']
>>>

Here in the above output you can see cell_contents, let's see what it stores:

>>> printer.func_closure[0].cell_contents
'Foo!'
>>> type(printer.func_closure[0].cell_contents)
<type 'str'>
>>>

So, when we called the function printer(), it accesses the value stored inside the cell_contents. This is how we got the output as 'Foo!'

Again I will explain using the above snippet with some changes:

 >>> def make_printer(msg):
 ...     def printer():
 ...         pass
 ...     return printer
 ...
 >>> printer = make_printer('Foo!')
 >>> printer.func_closure
 >>>

In the above snippet, I din't print msg inside the printer function, so it doesn't create any free variable. As there is no free variable, there will be no content inside the closure. Thats exactly what we see above.

Now I will explain another different snippet to clear out everything Free Variable with Closure:

>>> def outer(x):
...     def intermediate(y):
...         free = 'free'
...         def inner(z):
...             return '%s %s %s %s' %  (x, y, free, z)
...         return inner
...     return intermediate
...
>>> outer('I')('am')('variable')
'I am free variable'
>>>
>>> inter = outer('I')
>>> inter.func_closure
(<cell at 0x10c989130: str object at 0x10c831b98>,)
>>> inter.func_closure[0].cell_contents
'I'
>>> inn = inter('am')

So, we see that a func_closure property is a tuple of closure cells, we can refer them and their contents explicitly -- a cell has property "cell_contents"

>>> inn.func_closure
(<cell at 0x10c9807c0: str object at 0x10c9b0990>,
 <cell at 0x10c980f68: str object at   0x10c9eaf30>,
 <cell at 0x10c989130: str object at 0x10c831b98>)
>>> for i in inn.func_closure:
...     print i.cell_contents
...
free
am
I
>>>

Here when we called inn, it will refer all the save free variables so we get I am free variable

>>> inn('variable')
'I am free variable'
>>>

Automated testing for REST Api

I collaborated with one of my coworkers to start the PyRestTest framework for this reason: https://github.com/svanoort/pyresttest

Although you can work with the tests in Python, the normal test format is in YAML.

Sample test suite for a basic REST app -- verifies that APIs respond correctly, checking HTTP status codes, though you can make it examine response bodies as well:

---
- config:
    - testset: "Tests using test app"

- test: # create entity
    - name: "Basic get"
    - url: "/api/person/"
- test: # create entity
    - name: "Get single person"
    - url: "/api/person/1/"
- test: # create entity
    - name: "Get single person"
    - url: "/api/person/1/"
    - method: 'DELETE'
- test: # create entity by PUT
    - name: "Create/update person"
    - url: "/api/person/1/"
    - method: "PUT"
    - body: '{"first_name": "Gaius","id": 1,"last_name": "Baltar","login": "gbaltar"}'
    - headers: {'Content-Type': 'application/json'}
- test: # create entity by POST
    - name: "Create person"
    - url: "/api/person/"
    - method: "POST"
    - body: '{"first_name": "Willim","last_name": "Adama","login": "theadmiral"}'
    - headers: {Content-Type: application/json}

JPA: difference between @JoinColumn and @PrimaryKeyJoinColumn?

What happens if I promote the column to be a/the PK, too (a.k.a. identifying relationship)? As the column is now the PK, I must tag it with @Id (...).

This enhanced support of derived identifiers is actually part of the new stuff in JPA 2.0 (see the section 2.4.1 Primary Keys Corresponding to Derived Identities in the JPA 2.0 specification), JPA 1.0 doesn't allow Id on a OneToOne or ManyToOne. With JPA 1.0, you'd have to use PrimaryKeyJoinColumn and also define a Basic Id mapping for the foreign key column.

Now the question is: are @Id + @JoinColumn the same as just @PrimaryKeyJoinColumn?

You can obtain a similar result but using an Id on OneToOne or ManyToOne is much simpler and is the preferred way to map derived identifiers with JPA 2.0. PrimaryKeyJoinColumn might still be used in a JOINED inheritance strategy. Below the relevant section from the JPA 2.0 specification:

11.1.40 PrimaryKeyJoinColumn Annotation

The PrimaryKeyJoinColumn annotation specifies a primary key column that is used as a foreign key to join to another table.

The PrimaryKeyJoinColumn annotation is used to join the primary table of an entity subclass in the JOINED mapping strategy to the primary table of its superclass; it is used within a SecondaryTable annotation to join a secondary table to a primary table; and it may be used in a OneToOne mapping in which the primary key of the referencing entity is used as a foreign key to the referenced entity[108].

...

If no PrimaryKeyJoinColumn annotation is specified for a subclass in the JOINED mapping strategy, the foreign key columns are assumed to have the same names as the primary key columns of the primary table of the superclass.

...

Example: Customer and ValuedCustomer subclass

@Entity
@Table(name="CUST")
@Inheritance(strategy=JOINED)
@DiscriminatorValue("CUST")
public class Customer { ... }

@Entity
@Table(name="VCUST")
@DiscriminatorValue("VCUST")
@PrimaryKeyJoinColumn(name="CUST_ID")
public class ValuedCustomer extends Customer { ... }

[108] The derived id mechanisms described in section 2.4.1.1 are now to be preferred over PrimaryKeyJoinColumn for the OneToOne mapping case.

This source http://weblogs.java.net/blog/felipegaucho/archive/2009/10/24/jpa-join-table-additional-state states that using @ManyToOne and @Id works with JPA 1.x. Who's correct now?

The author is using a pre release JPA 2.0 compliant version of EclipseLink (version 2.0.0-M7 at the time of the article) to write an article about JPA 1.0(!). This article is misleading, the author is using something that is NOT part of JPA 1.0.

For the record, support of Id on OneToOne and ManyToOne has been added in EclipseLink 1.1 (see this message from James Sutherland, EclipseLink comitter and main contributor of the Java Persistence wiki book). But let me insist, this is NOT part of JPA 1.0.

Check whether $_POST-value is empty

$username = filter_input(INPUT_POST, 'userName', FILTER_SANITIZE_STRING);
if ($username == '') {$username = 'Anonymous';}

Best practice - always filter inputs, sanitize string is ok, but you're better off using a custom callback function to really filter out what's not acceptable. Then check the now-safe variable if it is null/empty and if it is, set to Anonymous. Does not require 'else' statement as it was set if it existed on the first line.

while ($data = fgetcsv ($handle, 1000, ";")) {
        $data = array_map("utf8_encode", $data); //added
        $num = count ($data);
        for ($c=0; $c < $num; $c++) {

How do I check if the mouse is over an element in jQuery?

I have answered this in another question, with all details you may need:

Detect IF hovering over element with jQuery (has 99 upvotes at the time of writing)

Basically, you can do something like:

var ishovered = oi.is(":hover");

This works only if oi is a jQuery object containing a single element. If there are multiple elements matched, you need to apply to each element, for example:

var hoveredItem = !!$('ol>li').filter(function() { return $(this).is(":hover"); });
                  // not .filter(':hover'), as we can't apply :hover on multiple elements

This was tested starting jQuery 1.7.

How to get client IP address in Laravel 5+

Solution 1: You can use this type of function for getting client IP

public function getClientIPaddress(Request $request) {
    $clientIp = $request->ip();
    return $clientIp;
}

Solution 2: if the solution1 is not providing accurate IP then you can use this function for getting visitor real IP.

 public function getClientIPaddress(Request $request) {

    if (isset($_SERVER["HTTP_CF_CONNECTING_IP"])) {
        $_SERVER['REMOTE_ADDR'] = $_SERVER["HTTP_CF_CONNECTING_IP"];
        $_SERVER['HTTP_CLIENT_IP'] = $_SERVER["HTTP_CF_CONNECTING_IP"];
    }
    $client  = @$_SERVER['HTTP_CLIENT_IP'];
    $forward = @$_SERVER['HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FOR'];
    $remote  = $_SERVER['REMOTE_ADDR'];

    if(filter_var($client, FILTER_VALIDATE_IP)){
        $clientIp = $client;
    }
    elseif(filter_var($forward, FILTER_VALIDATE_IP)){
        $clientIp = $forward;
    }
    else{
        $clientIp = $remote;
    }

    return $clientIp;
 }

N.B: When you have used load-balancer/proxy-server in your live server then you need to used solution 2 for getting real visitor ip.

addEventListener for keydown on Canvas

Edit - This answer is a solution, but a much simpler and proper approach would be setting the tabindex attribute on the canvas element (as suggested by hobberwickey).

You can't focus a canvas element. A simple work around this, would be to make your "own" focus.

var lastDownTarget, canvas;
window.onload = function() {
    canvas = document.getElementById('canvas');

    document.addEventListener('mousedown', function(event) {
        lastDownTarget = event.target;
        alert('mousedown');
    }, false);

    document.addEventListener('keydown', function(event) {
        if(lastDownTarget == canvas) {
            alert('keydown');
        }
    }, false);
}

docker command not found even though installed with apt-get

The Ubuntu package docker actually refers to a GUI application, not the beloved DevOps tool we've come out to look for.

The instructions for docker can be followed per instructions on the docker page here: https://docs.docker.com/engine/install/ubuntu/

=== UPDATED (thanks @Scott Stensland) ===

You now run the following install script to get docker:

`sudo curl -sSL https://get.docker.com/ | sh`
  • Note: review the script on the website and make sure you have the right link before continuing since you are running this as sudo.

This will run a script that installs docker. Note the last part of the script:

If you would like to use Docker as a non-root user, you should now consider
adding your user to the "docker" group with something like:

  `sudo usermod -aG docker stens`

Remember that you will have to log out and back in for this to take effect!

To update Docker run:

`sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade`

For more details on what's going on, See the docker install documentation or @Scott Stensland's answer below

=== UPDATE: For those uncomfortable w/ sudo | sh ===

Some in the comments have mentioned that it a risk to run an arbitrary script as sudo. The above option is a convenience script from docker to make the task simple. However, for those that are security-focused but don't want to read the script you can do the following:

  1. Add Dependencies
sudo apt-get update; \
sudo apt-get install \
 apt-transport-https \
 ca-certificates \
 curl \
 gnupg-agent \
 software-properties-common
  1. Add docker gpg key

curl -fsSL https://download.docker.com/linux/ubuntu/gpg | sudo apt-key add -

(Security check, verify key fingerprint 9DC8 5822 9FC7 DD38 854A E2D8 8D81 803C 0EBF CD88

$ sudo apt-key fingerprint 0EBFCD88

pub   rsa4096 2017-02-22 [SCEA]
      9DC8 5822 9FC7 DD38 854A  E2D8 8D81 803C 0EBF CD88
uid [ unknown] Docker Release (CE deb) <[email protected]>
sub   rsa4096 2017-02-22 [S]

)

  1. Setup Repository
sudo add-apt-repository \
   "deb [arch=amd64] https://download.docker.com/linux/ubuntu \
   $(lsb_release -cs) \
   stable"
  1. Install Docker
sudo apt-get update; \
sudo apt-get install docker-ce docker-ce-cli containerd.io

If you want to verify that it worked run: sudo docker run hello-world

The following explains why it is named like this: Why install docker on ubuntu should be `sudo apt-get install docker.io`?

What are the obj and bin folders (created by Visual Studio) used for?

One interesting fact about the obj directory: If you have publishing set up in a web project, the files that will be published are staged to obj\Release\Package\PackageTmp. If you want to publish the files yourself rather than use the integrated VS feature, you can grab the files that you actually need to deploy here, rather than pick through all the digital debris in the bin directory.

Which characters need to be escaped when using Bash?

There are two easy and safe rules which work not only in sh but also bash.

1. Put the whole string in single quotes

This works for all chars except single quote itself. To escape the single quote, close the quoting before it, insert the single quote, and re-open the quoting.

'I'\''m a s@fe $tring which ends in newline
'

sed command: sed -e "s/'/'\\\\''/g; 1s/^/'/; \$s/\$/'/"

2. Escape every char with a backslash

This works for all characters except newline. For newline characters use single or double quotes. Empty strings must still be handled - replace with ""

\I\'\m\ \a\ \s\@\f\e\ \$\t\r\i\n\g\ \w\h\i\c\h\ \e\n\d\s\ \i\n\ \n\e\w\l\i\n\e"
"

sed command: sed -e 's/./\\&/g; 1{$s/^$/""/}; 1!s/^/"/; $!s/$/"/'.

2b. More readable version of 2

There's an easy safe set of characters, like [a-zA-Z0-9,._+:@%/-], which can be left unescaped to keep it more readable

I\'m\ a\ s@fe\ \$tring\ which\ ends\ in\ newline"
"

sed command: LC_ALL=C sed -e 's/[^a-zA-Z0-9,._+@%/-]/\\&/g; 1{$s/^$/""/}; 1!s/^/"/; $!s/$/"/'.

Note that in a sed program, one can't know whether the last line of input ends with a newline byte (except when it's empty). That's why both above sed commands assume it does not. You can add a quoted newline manually.

Note that shell variables are only defined for text in the POSIX sense. Processing binary data is not defined. For the implementations that matter, binary works with the exception of NUL bytes (because variables are implemented with C strings, and meant to be used as C strings, namely program arguments), but you should switch to a "binary" locale such as latin1.

(You can easily validate the rules by reading the POSIX spec for sh. For bash, check the reference manual linked by @AustinPhillips)

Interview question: Check if one string is a rotation of other string

Here is an O(n) and in place alghoritm. It uses < operator for the elements of the strings. It's not mine of course. I took it from here (The site is in polish. I stumbled upon it once in the past and I couldn't find something like that now in English, so I show what I have :)).

bool equiv_cyc(const string &u, const string &v)
{
    int n = u.length(), i = -1, j = -1, k;
    if (n != v.length()) return false;

    while( i<n-1 && j<n-1 )
    {
        k = 1;
        while(k<=n && u[(i+k)%n]==v[(j+k)%n]) k++;
        if (k>n) return true;
        if (u[(i+k)%n] > v[(j+k)%n]) i += k; else j += k;
    }
    return false;
}

Difference between Role and GrantedAuthority in Spring Security

Think of a GrantedAuthority as being a "permission" or a "right". Those "permissions" are (normally) expressed as strings (with the getAuthority() method). Those strings let you identify the permissions and let your voters decide if they grant access to something.

You can grant different GrantedAuthoritys (permissions) to users by putting them into the security context. You normally do that by implementing your own UserDetailsService that returns a UserDetails implementation that returns the needed GrantedAuthorities.

Roles (as they are used in many examples) are just "permissions" with a naming convention that says that a role is a GrantedAuthority that starts with the prefix ROLE_. There's nothing more. A role is just a GrantedAuthority - a "permission" - a "right". You see a lot of places in spring security where the role with its ROLE_ prefix is handled specially as e.g. in the RoleVoter, where the ROLE_ prefix is used as a default. This allows you to provide the role names withtout the ROLE_ prefix. Prior to Spring security 4, this special handling of "roles" has not been followed very consistently and authorities and roles were often treated the same (as you e.g. can see in the implementation of the hasAuthority() method in SecurityExpressionRoot - which simply calls hasRole()). With Spring Security 4, the treatment of roles is more consistent and code that deals with "roles" (like the RoleVoter, the hasRole expression etc.) always adds the ROLE_ prefix for you. So hasAuthority('ROLE_ADMIN') means the the same as hasRole('ADMIN') because the ROLE_ prefix gets added automatically. See the spring security 3 to 4 migration guide for futher information.

But still: a role is just an authority with a special ROLE_ prefix. So in Spring security 3 @PreAuthorize("hasRole('ROLE_XYZ')") is the same as @PreAuthorize("hasAuthority('ROLE_XYZ')") and in Spring security 4 @PreAuthorize("hasRole('XYZ')") is the same as @PreAuthorize("hasAuthority('ROLE_XYZ')").

Regarding your use case:

Users have roles and roles can perform certain operations.

You could end up in GrantedAuthorities for the roles a user belongs to and the operations a role can perform. The GrantedAuthorities for the roles have the prefix ROLE_ and the operations have the prefix OP_. An example for operation authorities could be OP_DELETE_ACCOUNT, OP_CREATE_USER, OP_RUN_BATCH_JOBetc. Roles can be ROLE_ADMIN, ROLE_USER, ROLE_OWNER etc.

You could end up having your entities implement GrantedAuthority like in this (pseudo-code) example:

@Entity
class Role implements GrantedAuthority {
    @Id
    private String id;

    @ManyToMany
    private final List<Operation> allowedOperations = new ArrayList<>();

    @Override
    public String getAuthority() {
        return id;
    }

    public Collection<GrantedAuthority> getAllowedOperations() {
        return allowedOperations;
    }
}

@Entity
class User {
    @Id
    private String id;

    @ManyToMany
    private final List<Role> roles = new ArrayList<>();

    public Collection<Role> getRoles() {
        return roles;
    }
}

@Entity
class Operation implements GrantedAuthority {
    @Id
    private String id;

    @Override
    public String getAuthority() {
        return id;
    }
}

The ids of the roles and operations you create in your database would be the GrantedAuthority representation, e.g. ROLE_ADMIN, OP_DELETE_ACCOUNT etc. When a user is authenticated, make sure that all GrantedAuthorities of all its roles and the corresponding operations are returned from the UserDetails.getAuthorities() method.

Example: The admin role with id ROLE_ADMIN has the operations OP_DELETE_ACCOUNT, OP_READ_ACCOUNT, OP_RUN_BATCH_JOB assigned to it. The user role with id ROLE_USER has the operation OP_READ_ACCOUNT.

If an admin logs in the resulting security context will have the GrantedAuthorities: ROLE_ADMIN, OP_DELETE_ACCOUNT, OP_READ_ACCOUNT, OP_RUN_BATCH_JOB

If a user logs it, it will have: ROLE_USER, OP_READ_ACCOUNT

The UserDetailsService would take care to collect all roles and all operations of those roles and make them available by the method getAuthorities() in the returned UserDetails instance.

Batch - Echo or Variable Not Working

Try the following (note that there should not be a space between the VAR, =, and GREG).

SET VAR=GREG
ECHO %VAR%

JavaScript error (Uncaught SyntaxError: Unexpected end of input)

In my case, it ended up being a simple double quote issue in my bookmarklet, remember only use single quotes on bookmarklets. Just in case this helps someone.

How can I convince IE to simply display application/json rather than offer to download it?

I had a similar problem. I was using the "$. GetJSON" jQuery and everything worked perfectly in Firefox and Chrome.

But it did not work in IE. So I tried to directly access the URL of json, but in IE it asked if I wanted to download the file.

After much searching I saw that there must be a header in the result with a content-type, in my case, the content-type was:

header("Content-type: text/html; charset=iso-8859-1");

But when the page that made the request receives this json, in IE, you have to be specified SAME CONTENT-TYPE, in my case was:

$.getJSON (
"<? site_url php echo (" ajax / tipoMenu ")?>"
{contentType: 'text / html; charset = utf-8'},
function (result) {

I think sometimes stupid mistakes can give us this error.

how to change the default positioning of modal in bootstrap?

I know it's a bit late but I had issues with a modal window not allowing some links on the menu bar to work, even when it has not been triggered. But I solved it by doing the following:

.modal{
display:none;
}

PHP Fatal error when trying to access phpmyadmin mb_detect_encoding

I had the same trouble, this is what worked for me.

You can click at the wampserver icon, then at the PHP error log. Check if it says this: Unable to load dynamic library 'c:/wamp/bin/php/php5.5.12/ext/php_ldap.dll'

If yes, then you can reload your version of PHP, by clicking at the wampserver icon, then PHP, then version, and then you click at your version. Wait for everything to be online again, then try to access phpmyadmin.

Hiding an Excel worksheet with VBA

I would like to answer your question, as there are various methods - here I’ll talk about the code that is widely used.

So, for hiding the sheet:

Sub try()
    Worksheets("Sheet1").Visible = xlSheetHidden
End Sub

How do I get textual contents from BLOB in Oracle SQL

Barn's answer worked for me with modification because my column is not compressed. The quick and dirty solution:

select * from my_table
where dbms_lob.instr(my_UNcompressed_blob, utl_raw.cast_to_raw('MY_SEARCH_STRING'))>0;

Show empty string when date field is 1/1/1900

An alternate solution that covers both min (1/1/1900) and max (6/6/2079) dates:

ISNULL(NULLIF(NULLIF(CONVERT(VARCHAR(10), CreatedDate, 120), '1900-01-01'), '2079-06-06'), '').

Whatever solution you use, you should do a conversion of your date (or datetime) field to a specific format to bulletproof against different default server configurations.

Which .NET Dependency Injection frameworks are worth looking into?

I can recommend Ninject. It's incredibly fast and easy to use but only if you don't need XML configuration, else you should use Windsor.

How to do a LIKE query with linq?

You could use SqlMethods.Like(matchExpression,pattern)

var results = from c in db.costumers
              where SqlMethods.Like(c.FullName, "%"+FirstName+"%,"+LastName)
              select c;

The use of this method outside of LINQ to SQL will always throw a NotSupportedException exception.

Creating threads - Task.Factory.StartNew vs new Thread()

In the first case you are simply starting a new thread while in the second case you are entering in the thread pool.

The thread pool job is to share and recycle threads. It allows to avoid losing a few millisecond every time we need to create a new thread.

There are a several ways to enter the thread pool:

  • with the TPL (Task Parallel Library) like you did
  • by calling ThreadPool.QueueUserWorkItem
  • by calling BeginInvoke on a delegate
  • when you use a BackgroundWorker

Logging request/response messages when using HttpClient

See http://mikehadlow.blogspot.com/2012/07/tracing-systemnet-to-debug-http-clients.html

To configure a System.Net listener to output to both the console and a log file, add the following to your assembly configuration file:

<system.diagnostics>
  <trace autoflush="true" />
  <sources>
    <source name="System.Net">
      <listeners>
        <add name="MyTraceFile"/>
