Programs & Examples On #Procedural programming

Procedural programming is a term used to denote the way in which a computer programmer writes a program. This method of developing software, which also is called an application, revolves around keeping code as concise as possible. It also focuses on a very specific end result to be achieved. When it is mandatory that a program complete certain steps to achieve specific results, the code is said to have been written according to procedural programming.

OOP vs Functional Programming vs Procedural

One of my friends is writing a graphics app using NVIDIA CUDA. Application fits in very nicely with OOP paradigm and the problem can be decomposed into modules neatly. However, to use CUDA you need to use C, which doesn't support inheritance. Therefore, you need to be clever.

a) You devise a clever system which will emulate inheritance to a certain extent. It can be done!

i) You can use a hook system, which expects every child C of parent P to have a certain override for function F. You can make children register their overrides, which will be stored and called when required.

ii) You can use struct memory alignment feature to cast children into parents.

This can be neat but it's not easy to come up with future-proof, reliable solution. You will spend lots of time designing the system and there is no guarantee that you won't run into problems half-way through the project. Implementing multiple inheritance is even harder, if not almost impossible.

b) You can use consistent naming policy and use divide and conquer approach to create a program. It won't have any inheritance but because your functions are small, easy-to-understand and consistently formatted you don't need it. The amount of code you need to write goes up, it's very hard to stay focused and not succumb to easy solutions (hacks). However, this ninja way of coding is the C way of coding. Staying in balance between low-level freedom and writing good code. Good way to achieve this is to write prototypes using a functional language. For example, Haskell is extremely good for prototyping algorithms.

I tend towards approach b. I wrote a possible solution using approach a, and I will be honest, it felt very unnatural using that code.

What is the difference between procedural programming and functional programming?

I've never seen this definition given elsewhere, but I think this sums up the differences given here fairly well:

Functional programming focuses on expressions

Procedural programming focuses on statements

Expressions have values. A functional program is an expression who's value is a sequence of instructions for the computer to carry out.

Statements don't have values and instead modify the state of some conceptual machine.

In a purely functional language there would be no statements, in the sense that there's no way to manipulate state (they might still have a syntactic construct named "statement", but unless it manipulates state I wouldn't call it a statement in this sense). In a purely procedural language there would be no expressions, everything would be an instruction which manipulates the state of the machine.

Haskell would be an example of a purely functional language because there is no way to manipulate state. Machine code would be an example of a purely procedural language because everything in a program is a statement which manipulates the state of the registers and memory of the machine.

The confusing part is that the vast majority of programming languages contain both expressions and statements, allowing you to mix paradigms. Languages can be classified as more functional or more procedural based on how much they encourage the use of statements vs expressions.

For example, C would be more functional than COBOL because a function call is an expression, whereas calling a sub program in COBOL is a statement (that manipulates the state of shared variables and doesn't return a value). Python would be more functional than C because it allows you to express conditional logic as an expression using short circuit evaluation (test && path1 || path2 as opposed to if statements). Scheme would be more functional than Python because everything in scheme is an expression.

You can still write in a functional style in a language which encourages the procedural paradigm and vice versa. It's just harder and/or more awkward to write in a paradigm which isn't encouraged by the language.

using mailto to send email with an attachment

If you are using c# on the desktop, you can use SimpleMapi. That way it will be sent using the default mail client, and the user has the option of reviewing the message before sending, just like mailto:.

To use it you add the Simple-MAPI.NET package (it's 13Kb), and run:

var mapi = new SimpleMapi();
mapi.AddRecipient(null, address, false);
mapi.Attach(path);
//mapi.Logon(ParentForm.Handle);    //not really necessary
mapi.Send(subject, body, true);

How can I pass a class member function as a callback?

A simple solution "workaround" still is to create a class of virtual functions "interface" and inherit it in the caller class. Then pass it as a parameter "could be in the constructor" of the other class that you want to call your caller class back.

DEFINE Interface:

class CallBack
{
   virtual callMeBack () {};
};

This is the class that you want to call you back:

class AnotherClass ()
{
     public void RegisterMe(CallBack *callback)
     {
         m_callback = callback;
     }

     public void DoSomething ()
     {
        // DO STUFF
        // .....
        // then call
        if (m_callback) m_callback->callMeBack();
     }
     private CallBack *m_callback = NULL;
};

And this is the class that will be called back.

class Caller : public CallBack
{
    void DoSomthing ()
    {
    }

    void callMeBack()
    {
       std::cout << "I got your message" << std::endl;
    }
};

How do I export (and then import) a Subversion repository?

You can also use svnsync. This only requires read-only access on the source repository

How can I change text color via keyboard shortcut in MS word 2010

You could use a macro, but it’s simpler to use styles. Define a character style that has the desired text color and assign a shortcut key to it, say Alt+R. In order to be able to switch color using just the keyboard, define another character style, say “normal”, that has no special feature—just for use to get normal text after switching to your colored style, and assign another shortcut to it, say Alt+N. Then you would just type text, press Alt+R to switch to colored text, type that text, press Alt+N to resume normal text color, etc.

Find a value anywhere in a database

Database client tools (like DBeaver or phpMyAdmin) often support means of fulltext search through entire database.

Programmatically stop execution of python script?

The exit() and quit() built in functions do just what you want. No import of sys needed.

Alternatively, you can raise SystemExit, but you need to be careful not to catch it anywhere (which shouldn't happen as long as you specify the type of exception in all your try.. blocks).

Should I use .done() and .fail() for new jQuery AJAX code instead of success and error

When we are going to migrate JQuery from 1.x to 2x or 3.x in our old existing application , then we will use .done,.fail instead of success,error as JQuery up gradation is going to be deprecated these methods.For example when we make a call to server web methods then server returns promise objects to the calling methods(Ajax methods) and this promise objects contains .done,.fail..etc methods.Hence we will the same for success and failure response. Below is the example(it is for POST request same way we can construct for request type like GET...)

 $.ajax({
            type: "POST",
            url: url,
            data: '{"name" :"sheo"}',
            contentType: "application/json; charset=utf-8",
            async: false,
            cache: false
            }).done(function (Response) {
                  //do something when get response })
           .fail(function (Response) {
                    //do something when any error occurs.
                });

Send Post Request with params using Retrofit

You should create an interface for that like it is working well

public interface Service {
    @FormUrlEncoded
    @POST("v1/EmergencyRequirement.php/?op=addPatient")
    Call<Result> addPerson(@Field("BloodGroup") String bloodgroup,
           @Field("Address") String Address,
           @Field("City") String city, @Field("ContactNumber") String contactnumber,
           @Field("PatientName") String name,
           @Field("Time") String Time, @Field("DonatedBy") String donar);
}

and youcan vist to https://github.com/rajkumu12/GetandPostUsingRatrofit

ReferenceError: variable is not defined

Got the error (in the function init) with the following code ;

The fix for this was to change

to

var hdr = null ;

FFMPEG mp4 from http live streaming m3u8 file?

Your command is completely incorrect. The output format is not rawvideo and you don't need the bitstream filter h264_mp4toannexb which is used when you want to convert the h264 contained in an mp4 to the Annex B format used by MPEG-TS for example. What you want to use instead is the aac_adtstoasc for the AAC streams.

ffmpeg -i http://.../playlist.m3u8 -c copy -bsf:a aac_adtstoasc output.mp4

Wait until flag=true

Modern solution using Promise

myFunction() in the original question can be modified as follows

async function myFunction(number) {

    var x=number;
    ...
    ... more initializations

    await until(_ => flag == true);

    ...
    ... do something

}

where until() is this utility function

function until(conditionFunction) {

  const poll = resolve => {
    if(conditionFunction()) resolve();
    else setTimeout(_ => poll(resolve), 400);
  }

  return new Promise(poll);
}

Using Excel OleDb to get sheet names IN SHEET ORDER

I have created the below function using the information provided in the answer from @kraeppy (https://stackoverflow.com/a/19930386/2617732). This requires the .net framework v4.5 to be used and requires a reference to System.IO.Compression. This only works for xlsx files and not for the older xls files.

    using System.IO.Compression;
    using System.Xml;
    using System.Xml.Linq;

    static IEnumerable<string> GetWorksheetNamesOrdered(string fileName)
    {
        //open the excel file
        using (FileStream data = new FileStream(fileName, FileMode.Open))
        {
            //unzip
            ZipArchive archive = new ZipArchive(data);

            //select the correct file from the archive
            ZipArchiveEntry appxmlFile = archive.Entries.SingleOrDefault(e => e.FullName == "docProps/app.xml");

            //read the xml
            XDocument xdoc = XDocument.Load(appxmlFile.Open());

            //find the titles element
            XElement titlesElement = xdoc.Descendants().Where(e => e.Name.LocalName == "TitlesOfParts").Single();

            //extract the worksheet names
            return titlesElement
                .Elements().Where(e => e.Name.LocalName == "vector").Single()
                .Elements().Where(e => e.Name.LocalName == "lpstr")
                .Select(e => e.Value);
        }
    }

Excel Validation Drop Down list using VBA

You are defining your array as xlValidateList(), so when you try to assign the type, it gets confused as to what you are trying to assign to the type.

Instead, try this:

Dim MyList(5) As String
MyList(0) = 1
MyList(1) = 2
MyList(2) = 3
MyList(3) = 4
MyList(4) = 5
MyList(5) = 6

With Range("A1").Validation
    .Delete
    .Add Type:=xlValidateList, AlertStyle:=xlValidAlertStop, _
         Operator:=xlBetween, Formula1:=Join(MyList, ",")
End With

Implementing SearchView in action bar

For Searchview use these code

  1. For XML

    <android.support.v7.widget.SearchView
        android:layout_width="match_parent"
        android:layout_height="wrap_content"
        android:id="@+id/searchView">

    </android.support.v7.widget.SearchView>

  2. In your Fragment or Activity

        ArrayList<ProductDetailPojo> newList = new ArrayList<>();
        for (ProductDetailPojo productDetailPojo : arrayList) {
            String name = productDetailPojo.getDetails().toLowerCase();

            if (name.contains(newText) )

            }
        adapter.setFilter(newList);
        return true;
       }
    }

  3. In adapter class

     public void setFilter(List<ProductDetailPojo> newList){
        arrayList=new ArrayList<>();
        arrayList.addAll(newList);
        notifyDataSetChanged();
    }

What is the JavaScript equivalent of var_dump or print_r in PHP?

Most modern browsers have a console in their developer tools, useful for this sort of debugging.

console.log(myvar);

Then you will get a nicely mapped out interface of the object/whatever in the console.

Check out the console documentation for more details.

How to check if a "lateinit" variable has been initialized?

If you have a lateinit property in one class and need to check if it is initialized from another class

if(foo::file.isInitialized) // this wouldn't work

The workaround I have found is to create a function to check if the property is initialized and then you can call that function from any other class.

Example:

class Foo() {

    private lateinit var myFile: File

    fun isFileInitialised() = ::file.isInitialized
}

 // in another class
class Bar() {

    val foo = Foo()

    if(foo.isFileInitialised()) // this should work
}

Better way to sum a property value in an array

I'm not sure this has been mentioned yet. But there is a lodash function for that. Snippet below where value is your attribute to sum is 'value'.

_.sumBy(objects, 'value');
_.sumBy(objects, function(o) { return o.value; });

Both will work.

How can I Insert data into SQL Server using VBNet

It means that the number of values specified in your VALUES clause on the INSERT statement is not equal to the total number of columns in the table. You must specify the columnname if you only try to insert on selected columns.

Another one, since you are using ADO.Net , always parameterized your query to avoid SQL Injection. What you are doing right now is you are defeating the use of sqlCommand.

ex

Dim query as String = String.Empty
query &= "INSERT INTO student (colName, colID, colPhone, "
query &= "                     colBranch, colCourse, coldblFee)  "
query &= "VALUES (@colName,@colID, @colPhone, @colBranch,@colCourse, @coldblFee)"

Using conn as New SqlConnection("connectionStringHere")
    Using comm As New SqlCommand()
        With comm
            .Connection = conn
            .CommandType = CommandType.Text
            .CommandText = query
            .Parameters.AddWithValue("@colName", strName)
            .Parameters.AddWithValue("@colID", strId)
            .Parameters.AddWithValue("@colPhone", strPhone)
            .Parameters.AddWithValue("@colBranch", strBranch)
            .Parameters.AddWithValue("@colCourse", strCourse)
            .Parameters.AddWithValue("@coldblFee", dblFee)
        End With
        Try
            conn.open()
            comm.ExecuteNonQuery()
        Catch(ex as SqlException)
            MessageBox.Show(ex.Message.ToString(), "Error Message")
        End Try
    End Using
End USing

PS: Please change the column names specified in the query to the original column found in your table.

How to close a Java Swing application from the code

The following program includes code that will terminate a program lacking extraneous threads without explicitly calling System.exit(). In order to apply this example to applications using threads/listeners/timers/etc, one need only insert cleanup code requesting (and, if applicable, awaiting) their termination before the WindowEvent is manually initiated within actionPerformed().

For those who wish to copy/paste code capable of running exactly as shown, a slightly-ugly but otherwise irrelevant main method is included at the end.

public class CloseExample extends JFrame implements ActionListener {

    private JButton turnOffButton;

    private void addStuff() {
        setDefaultCloseOperation(DISPOSE_ON_CLOSE);
        turnOffButton = new JButton("Exit");
        turnOffButton.addActionListener(this);
        this.add(turnOffButton);
    }

    public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent quitEvent) {
        /* Iterate through and close all timers, threads, etc here */
        this.processWindowEvent(
                new WindowEvent(
                      this, WindowEvent.WINDOW_CLOSING));
    }

    public CloseExample() {
        super("Close Me!");
        addStuff();
    }

    public static void main(String[] args) {
        java.awt.EventQueue.invokeLater(new Runnable() {
            public void run() {
                CloseExample cTW = new CloseExample();
                cTW.setSize(200, 100);
                cTW.setLocation(300,300);
                cTW.setVisible(true);
            }
        });
    }
}

How can I convert a dictionary into a list of tuples?

What you want is dict's items() and iteritems() methods. items returns a list of (key,value) tuples. Since tuples are immutable, they can't be reversed. Thus, you have to iterate the items and create new tuples to get the reversed (value,key) tuples. For iteration, iteritems is preferable since it uses a generator to produce the (key,value) tuples rather than having to keep the entire list in memory.

How to push local changes to a remote git repository on bitbucket

This is a safety measure to avoid pushing branches that are not ready to be published. Loosely speaking, by executing "git push", only local branches that already exist on the server with the same name will be pushed, or branches that have been pushed using the localbranch:remotebranch syntax.

To push all local branches to the remote repository, use --all:

git push REMOTENAME --all
git push --all

or specify all branches you want to push:

git push REMOTENAME master exp-branch-a anotherbranch bugfix

In addition, it's useful to add -u to the "git push" command, as this will tell you if your local branch is ahead or behind the remote branch. This is shown when you run "git status" after a git fetch.

Is it possible to display my iPhone on my computer monitor?

Many screencasts displaying an iPhone application simply use the iPhone Simulator, which is one option.

You can also take screenshots on the phone by quickly pressing the menu and the power/sleep button at the same time. The image is then saved to your "Camera Roll" and easily transferable to the computer

The other way is only possible with a Jailbroken phone - Veency is a VNC server for the iPhone, which you can connect to with a regular VNC client.

Android Fragments and animation

I'd highly suggest you use this instead of creating the animation file because it's a much better solution. Android Studio already provides default animation you can use without creating any new XML file. The animations' names are android.R.anim.slide_in_left and android.R.anim.slide_out_right and you can use them as follows:

fragmentTransaction.setCustomAnimations(android.R.anim.slide_in_left, android.R.anim.slide_out_right);

FragmentManager fragmentManager = getSupportFragmentManager();
FragmentTransaction fragmentTransaction = fragmentManager.beginTransaction();
fragmentTransaction.setCustomAnimations(android.R.anim.slide_in_left, android.R.anim.slide_out_right);
fragmentManager.addOnBackStackChangedListener(this);
fragmentTransaction.replace(R.id.frame, firstFragment, "h");
fragmentTransaction.addToBackStack("h");
fragmentTransaction.commit();

Jquery Validate custom error message location

This Worked for me

Actually error is a array which contain error message and other values for elements we pass, you can console.log(error); and see. Inside if condition "error.appendTo($(element).parents('div').find($('.errorEmail')));" Is nothing but finding html element in code and passing the error message.

    $("form[name='contactUs']").validate({
rules: {
    message: 'required',
    name: "required",
    phone_number: {
        required: true,

        number: false
    },

Import and Export Excel - What is the best library?

CSV export is simple, easy to implement, and fast. There is one potential issue worth noting, though. Excel (up to 2007) does not preserve leading zeros in CSV files. This will garble ZIP codes, product ids, and other textual data containing numeric values. There is one trick that will make Excel import the values correctly (using delimiters and prefix values with the = sign, if I remember correctly, e.g. ..,="02052",...). If you have users who will do post-processing tasks with the CSV, they need to be aware that they need to change the format to XLS and not save the file back to CSV. If they do, leading zeros will be lost for good.

Do I need to pass the full path of a file in another directory to open()?

You have to specify the path that you are working on:

source = '/home/test/py_test/'
for root, dirs, filenames in os.walk(source):
    for f in filenames:
        print f
        fullpath = os.path.join(source, f)
        log = open(fullpath, 'r')

How to correctly catch change/focusOut event on text input in React.js?

Its late, yet it's worth your time nothing that, there are some differences in browser level implementation of focusin and focusout events and react synthetic onFocus and onBlur. focusin and focusout actually bubble, while onFocus and onBlur dont. So there is no exact same implementation for focusin and focusout as of now for react. Anyway most cases will be covered in onFocus and onBlur.

Using JsonConvert.DeserializeObject to deserialize Json to a C# POCO class

That's not exactly what I had in mind. What do you do if you have a generic type to only be known at runtime?

        var obj = JsonConvert.DeserializeObject(payload);
      //var obj = JsonConvert.DeserializeObject<type.MemberType.GetType()>(payload);  // <--- type ?????
          ...
      }
    }

    // Example for java.. Convert this to C#

  } catch (Exception ex) {

How to convert Javascript datetime to C# datetime?

DateTime.Parse is a much better bet. JS dates and C# dates do not start from the same root.

Sample:

DateTime dt = DateTime.ParseExact("Tue Jul 12 2011 16:00:00 GMT-0700",
                                  "ddd MMM d yyyy HH:mm:ss tt zzz",

Is the order of elements in a JSON list preserved?

Yes, the order of elements in JSON arrays is preserved. From RFC 7159 -The JavaScript Object Notation (JSON) Data Interchange Format (emphasis mine):

An object is an unordered collection of zero or more name/value pairs, where a name is a string and a value is a string, number, boolean, null, object, or array.

An array is an ordered sequence of zero or more values.

The terms "object" and "array" come from the conventions of JavaScript.

Some implementations do also preserve the order of JSON objects as well, but this is not guaranteed.

Parse string to date with moment.js

Math constant PI value in C

The closest thing C does to "computing p" in a way that's directly visible to applications is acos(-1) or similar. This is almost always done with polynomial/rational approximations for the function being computed (either in C, or by the FPU microcode).

However, an interesting issue is that computing the trigonometric functions (sin, cos, and tan) requires reduction of their argument modulo 2p. Since 2p is not a diadic rational (and not even rational), it cannot be represented in any floating point type, and thus using any approximation of the value will result in catastrophic error accumulation for large arguments (e.g. if x is 1e12, and 2*M_PI differs from 2p by e, then fmod(x,2*M_PI) differs from the correct value of 2p by up to 1e12*e/p times the correct value of x mod 2p. That is to say, it's completely meaningless.

A correct implementation of C's standard math library simply has a gigantic very-high-precision representation of p hard coded in its source to deal with the issue of correct argument reduction (and uses some fancy tricks to make it not-quite-so-gigantic). This is how most/all C versions of the sin/cos/tan functions work. However, certain implementations (like glibc) are known to use assembly implementations on some cpus (like x86) and don't perform correct argument reduction, leading to completely nonsensical outputs. (Incidentally, the incorrect asm usually runs about the same speed as the correct C code for small arguments.)

Inserting Data into Hive Table

I think the best way is:
a) Copy data into HDFS (if it is not already there)
b) Create external table over your CSV like this

CREATE EXTERNAL TABLE TableName (id int, name string)
ROW FORMAT DELIMITED
FIELDS TERMINATED BY ','
LINES TERMINATED BY '\n'
STORED AS TEXTFILE
LOCATION 'place in HDFS';

c) You can start using TableName already by issuing queries to it.
d) if you want to insert data into other Hive table:

insert overwrite table finalTable select * from table name;

How do I remove time part from JavaScript date?

Parse that string into a Date object:

var myDate = new Date('10/11/1955 10:40:50 AM');

Then use the usual methods to get the date's day of month (getDate) / month (getMonth) / year (getFullYear).

var noTime = new Date(myDate.getFullYear(), myDate.getMonth(), myDate.getDate());

What REALLY happens when you don't free after malloc?

You are absolutely correct in that respect. In small trivial programs where a variable must exist until the death of the program, there is no real benefit to deallocating the memory.

In fact, I had once been involved in a project where each execution of the program was very complex but relatively short-lived, and the decision was to just keep memory allocated and not destabilize the project by making mistakes deallocating it.

That being said, in most programs this is not really an option, or it can lead you to run out of memory.

CentOS 7 and Puppet unable to install nc

You can use a case in this case, to separate versions one example is using FACT os (which returns the version etc of your system... the command facter will return the details:

root@sytem# facter -p os
{"name"=>"CentOS", "family"=>"RedHat", "release"=>{"major"=>"7", "minor"=>"0", "full"=>"7.0.1406"}}

#we capture release hash
$curr_os = $os['release']

case $curr_os['major'] {
  '7': { .... something }
  *: {something}
}

That is an fast example, Might have typos, or not exactly working. But using system facts you can see what happens.

The OS fact provides you 3 main variables: name, family, release... Under release you have a small dictionary with more information about your os! combining these you can create cases to meet your targets.

How can I use grep to show just filenames on Linux?

Your question How can I just get the file-names (with paths)

Your syntax example find . -iname "*php" -exec grep -H myString {} \;

Using two values for one switch case statement

The fallthrough answers by others are good ones.

However another approach would be extract methods out of the contents of your case statements and then just call the appropriate method from each case.

In the example below, both case 'text1' and case 'text4' behave the same:

switch (name) {
        case text1: {
            method1();
            break;
        }
        case text2: {
            method2();
            break;
        }
        case text3: {
            method3();
            break;
        }
        case text4: {
            method1();
            break;
        }

I personally find this style of writing case statements more maintainable and slightly more readable, especially when the methods you call have good descriptive names.

memory error in python

This one here:

s = raw_input()
a=len(s)
for i in xrange(0, a):
    for j in xrange(0, a):
        if j >= i:
            if len(s[i:j+1]) > 0:
                sub_strings.append(s[i:j+1])

seems to be very inefficient and expensive for large strings.

Better do

for i in xrange(0, a):
    for j in xrange(i, a): # ensures that j >= i, no test required
        part = buffer(s, i, j+1-i) # don't duplicate data
        if len(part) > 0:
            sub_Strings.append(part)

A buffer object keeps a reference to the original string and start and length attributes. This way, no unnecessary duplication of data occurs.

A string of length l has l*l/2 sub strings of average length l/2, so the memory consumption would roughly be l*l*l/4. With a buffer, it is much smaller.

Note that buffer() only exists in 2.x. 3.x has memoryview(), which is utilized slightly different.

Even better would be to compute the indexes and cut out the substring on demand.

PYTHONPATH vs. sys.path

In general I would consider setting up of an environment variable (like PYTHONPATH) to be a bad practice. While this might be fine for a one off debugging but using this as
a regular practice might not be a good idea.

Usage of environment variable leads to situations like "it works for me" when some one
else reports problems in the code base. Also one might carry the same practice with the test environment as well, leading to situations like the tests running fine for a particular developer but probably failing when some one launches the tests.

How to fix a header on scroll

Why can templates only be implemented in the header file?

Plenty correct answers here, but I wanted to add this (for completeness):

If you, at the bottom of the implementation cpp file, do explicit instantiation of all the types the template will be used with, the linker will be able to find them as usual.

Edit: Adding example of explicit template instantiation. Used after the template has been defined, and all member functions has been defined.

template class vector<int>;

This will instantiate (and thus make available to the linker) the class and all its member functions (only). Similar syntax works for template functions, so if you have non-member operator overloads you may need to do the same for those.

The above example is fairly useless since vector is fully defined in headers, except when a common include file (precompiled header?) uses extern template class vector<int> so as to keep it from instantiating it in all the other (1000?) files that use vector.

Force Internet Explorer to use a specific Java Runtime Environment install?

First, disable the currently installed version of Java. To do this, go to Control Panel > Java > Advanced > Default Java for Browsers and uncheck Microsoft Internet Explorer.

Next, enable the version of Java you want to use instead. To do this, go to (for example) C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_15\bin (where jre1.5.0_15 is the version of Java you want to use), and run javacpl.exe. Go to Advanced > Default Java for Browsers and check Microsoft Internet Explorer.

To get your old version of Java back you need to reverse these steps.

Note that in older versions of Java, Default Java for Browsers is called <APPLET> Tag Support (but the effect is the same).

The good thing about this method is that it doesn't affect other browsers, and doesn't affect the default system JRE.

Spring Boot Program cannot find main class

I tried all the above solution, but didn't worked for me. Finally was able to resolve it with a simple fix.

on STS, Run Configuration > open your Spring Boot App > Open your configuration, Follow the steps,

  1. In Spring boot Tab, check your Main class and profile.
  2. Then go to classpath tab, In the bottom you will see two checkboxes,one is "Exclude Test Code"(Check this if you do not want to run test classes) and other, "Use Temporary Jar file to specify classpath" (this is necessary).

Save your configuration and run. enter image description here

HTML Agility pack - parsing tables

How about something like: Using HTML Agility Pack

HtmlDocument doc = new HtmlDocument();
doc.LoadHtml(@"<html><body><p><table id=""foo""><tr><th>hello</th></tr><tr><td>world</td></tr></table></body></html>");
foreach (HtmlNode table in doc.DocumentNode.SelectNodes("//table")) {
    Console.WriteLine("Found: " + table.Id);
    foreach (HtmlNode row in table.SelectNodes("tr")) {
        Console.WriteLine("row");
        foreach (HtmlNode cell in row.SelectNodes("th|td")) {
            Console.WriteLine("cell: " + cell.InnerText);
        }
    }
}

Note that you can make it prettier with LINQ-to-Objects if you want:

var query = from table in doc.DocumentNode.SelectNodes("//table").Cast<HtmlNode>()
            from row in table.SelectNodes("tr").Cast<HtmlNode>()
            from cell in row.SelectNodes("th|td").Cast<HtmlNode>()
            select new {Table = table.Id, CellText = cell.InnerText};

foreach(var cell in query) {
    Console.WriteLine("{0}: {1}", cell.Table, cell.CellText);
}

I encountered this problem when my operating system was in French, and I was installing Wampserver in English.

How to install node.js as windows service?

I'm not addressing the question directly, but providing an alternative that might also meet your requirement in a more node.js fashion way.

Functionally the requirements are:

  1. Have the logic (app) running in the background
  2. Be able to start/stop the logic
  3. Automatically start the logic when system boots up

These requirements can be satisfied by using a process manager (PM) and making the process manager start on system startup. Two good PMs that are Windows-friendly are:

To make the PM start automatically, the most simple way is to create a scheduled task with a "At Startup" trigger:

Row numbers in query result using Microsoft Access

I needed the best x results of points per team.

Ranking does not solves this problem when there are results with equal points. So I need a recordnumber

I made a VBA function in Access to create a recordnumber that resets on ID change.

You have to query this query with where recordnumber <= x to get the points per team.

NB Access changes the record-number

  1. when you query the query filtered on record number
  2. when you filter out some results
  3. when you change the sort order

That is not what I thought that would happen.

Solved this by using a temporary table and saving the recordnumbers and keys or an extra field in the table.

SELECT ID, Points, RecordNumberOffId([ID}) AS Recordnumber
FROM Team ORDER BY ID ASC, Points DESC;

It uses 3 module level variables to remember between calls

Dim PreviousID As Long
Dim PreviousRecordNumber As Long
Dim TimeLastID As Date

Public Function RecordNumberOffID(ID As Long) As Long
'ID is sortgroup identity
'Reset if last call longer dan nn seconds in the past
If Time() - TimeLastID > 0.0003 Then '0,000277778 = 1 second
    PreviousID = 0
    PreviousRecordNumber = 0
End If
If ID <> PreviousID Then
    PreviousRecordNumber = 0
    PreviousID = ID
End If
PreviousRecordNumber = PreviousRecordNumber + 1
RecordNumberOffID = PreviousRecordNumber
TimeLastID = Time()
End Function

Error: Cannot find module html

I am assuming that test.html is a static file.To render static files use the static middleware like so.

app.use(express.static(path.join(__dirname, 'public')));

This tells express to look for static files in the public directory of the application.

Once you have specified this simply point your browser to the location of the file and it should display.

If however you want to render the views then you have to use the appropriate renderer for it.The list of renderes is defined in consolidate.Once you have decided which library to use just install it.I use mustache so here is a snippet of my config file

var engines = require('consolidate');

app.set('views', __dirname + '/views');
app.engine('html', engines.mustache);
app.set('view engine', 'html');

What this does is tell express to

  • look for files to render in views directory

  • Render the files using mustache

  • The extension of the file is .html(you can use .mustache too)

Where is the <conio.h> header file on Linux? Why can't I find <conio.h>?

That is because is does not exist, since it is bounded to Windows.

Use the standard functions from <stdio.h> instead, such as getc

The suggested ncurses library is good if you want to write console-based GUIs, but I don't think it is what you want.

How to actually search all files in Visual Studio

So the answer seems to be to NOT use the Solution Explorer search box.

Rather, open any file in the solution, then use the control-f search pop-up to search all files by:

  1. selecting "Find All" from the "--> Find Next / <-- Find Previous" selector
  2. selecting "Current Project" or "Entire Solution" from the selector that normally says just "Current Document".

How to make a ssh connection with python?

Notice that this doesn't work in Windows.
The module pxssh does exactly what you want:
For example, to run 'ls -l' and to print the output, you need to do something like that :

from pexpect import pxssh
s = pxssh.pxssh()
if not s.login ('localhost', 'myusername', 'mypassword'):
    print "SSH session failed on login."
    print str(s)
else:
    print "SSH session login successful"
    s.sendline ('ls -l')
    s.prompt()         # match the prompt
    print s.before # print everything before the prompt.
    s.logout()

What is the difference between DTR/DSR and RTS/CTS flow control?

  • DTR - Data Terminal Ready
  • DSR - Data Set Ready
  • RTS - Request To Send
  • CTS - Clear To Send

There are multiple ways of doing things because there were never any protocols built into the standards. You use whatever ad-hoc "standard" your equipment implements.

Just based on the names, RTS/CTS would seem to be a natural fit. However, it's backwards from the needs that developed over time. These signals were created at a time when a terminal would batch-send a screen full of data, but the receiver might not be ready, thus the need for flow control. Later the problem would be reversed, as the terminal couldn't keep up with data coming from the host, but the RTS/CTS signals go the wrong direction - the interface isn't orthogonal, and there's no corresponding signals going the other way. Equipment makers adapted as best they could, including using the DTR and DSR signals.

EDIT

To add a bit more detail, its a two level hierarchy so "officially" both must happen for communication to take place. The behavior is defined in the original CCITT (now ITU-T) standard V.28.

enter image description here

The DCE is a modem connecting between the terminal and telephone network. In the telephone network was another piece of equipment which split off to the data network, eg. X.25.

The modem has three states: Powered off, Ready (Data Set Ready is true), and connected (Data Carrier Detect)

The terminal can't do anything until the modem is connected.

When the modem wants to send data, it raises RTS and the modem grants the request with CTS. The modem lowers CTS when its internal buffer is full.

So nostalgic!

How can I select checkboxes using the Selenium Java WebDriver?

I tried with various approaches, but nothing worked. I kept getting "Cannot click element" or ElementNotVisibleException.

I was able to find the input, but I couldn't check it. Now, I'm clicking on the div that contains the checkbox and it works with following HTML (CSS based on Bootstrap).

 @foreach (var item in Model)
 {
     <tr>
         <td>
             <div id="@item.Id" class="checkbox">
                 <label><input type="checkbox" class="selectone" value="@item.Id"></label>
             </div>
         </td>
         <td val="@item.Id">
             @item.Detail
         </td>
         <td>
             <div>@item.Desc
             </div>
         </td>
         <td>
             @Html.ActionLink("Edit", "Create", new { EditId = item.Id })
         </td>
     </tr>
 }

This is the code for WebDriver:

var table = driver.FindElement(By.TagName("table"));
var tds = table.FindElements(By.TagName("td"));
var itemTds = tds.Where(t => t.Text == itemtocheck);
foreach (var td in itemTds)
{
    var CheckBoxTd = tds[tds.IndexOf(td) - 1];
    var val = td.GetAttribute("val");
    CheckBoxTd.FindElement(By.Id(val)).Click();
}

In this approach, I give the item id as id for the div and also add an attribute for td with that id. Once I find the td of the item that needs to be checked, I can find the div before that td and click it. We can also use the XPath query that supports before (here is the example http://learn-automation.com/how-to-write-dynamic-xpath-in-selenium/).

pip is configured with locations that require TLS/SSL, however the ssl module in Python is not available

In my case I was running into issues with my $PATH on Linux. This can also happen on MacOS.

Check to see if /usr/bin/pip3 install package_name_goes_here works for you. If so then run which pip3 this will tell you which is the first directory that pip3 is installed in.

If it is something like /usr/local/bin/pip3 which is different from /usr/bin/pip3 then you may need to adjust your $PATH.

Run echo $PATH and copy the result.

The PATH is simply a colon separated list of directories that contain directories. Bash will always return the first instance of the program that you are attempting to execute. Move all the system directories upfront. Here is a list of some of the system directories:

/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/snap/bin

If that fails then verify you have openssl installed by running openssl version -a if not then install openssl.

Reliable method to get machine's MAC address in C#

Cleaner solution

var macAddr =

        where nic.OperationalStatus == OperationalStatus.Up

Or:

String firstMacAddress = NetworkInterface

    .Select( nic => nic.GetPhysicalAddress().ToString() )

Send attachments with PHP Mail()?

I ended up writing my own email sending/encoding function. This has worked well for me for sending PDF attachments. I have not used the other features in production.

Note: Despite the spec being quite emphatic that you must use \r\n to separate headers, I found it only worked when I used PHP_EOL. I have only tested this on Linux. YMMV

RequestDispatcher.forward() vs HttpServletResponse.sendRedirect()

SendRedirect() will search the content between the servers. it is slow because it has to intimate the browser by sending the URL of the content. then browser will create a new request for the content within the same server or in another one.

RquestDispatcher is for searching the content within the server i think. its the server side process and it is faster compare to the SendRedirect() method. but the thing is that it will not intimate the browser in which server it is searching the required date or content, neither it will not ask the browser to change the URL in URL tab. so it causes little inconvenience to the user.

Find and extract a number from a string

Here's a Linq version:

string s = "123iuow45ss";
var getNumbers = (from t in s
                  where char.IsDigit(t)
                  select t).ToArray();
Console.WriteLine(new string(getNumbers));

Convert string to Time

This gives you the needed results:

string time = "16:23:01";
var result = Convert.ToDateTime(time);
string test = result.ToString("hh:mm:ss tt", CultureInfo.CurrentCulture);
//This gives you "04:23:01 PM" string

You could also use CultureInfo.CreateSpecificCulture("en-US") as not all cultures will display AM/PM.

INSERT INTO {tableName} (COLNew) SELECT {COLOld} FROM {tableName}

Note: brackets are necessary in above line.

How to Install Sublime Text 3 using Homebrew

Bitwise operation and usage

Think of 0 as false and 1 as true. Then bitwise and(&) and or(|) work just like regular and and or except they do all of the bits in the value at once. Typically you will see them used for flags if you have 30 options that can be set (say as draw styles on a window) you don't want to have to pass in 30 separate boolean values to set or unset each one so you use | to combine options into a single value and then you use & to check if each option is set. This style of flag passing is heavily used by OpenGL. Since each bit is a separate flag you get flag values on powers of two(aka numbers that have only one bit set) 1(2^0) 2(2^1) 4(2^2) 8(2^3) the power of two tells you which bit is set if the flag is on.

Also note 2 = 10 so x|2 is 110(6) not 111(7) If none of the bits overlap(which is true in this case) | acts like addition.

Declaring functions in JSP?

You need to enclose that in <%! %> as follows:

<%!

public String getQuarter(int i){
String quarter;
switch(i){
        case 1: quarter = "Winter";
        break;

        case 2: quarter = "Spring";
        break;

        case 3: quarter = "Summer I";
        break;

        case 4: quarter = "Summer II";
        break;

        case 5: quarter = "Fall";
        break;

        default: quarter = "ERROR";
}

return quarter;
}

%>

You can then invoke the function within scriptlets or expressions:

<%
     out.print(getQuarter(4));
%>

or

<%= getQuarter(17) %>

Does Spring @Transactional attribute work on a private method?

The answer your question is no - @Transactional will have no effect if used to annotate private methods. The proxy generator will ignore them.

This is documented in Spring Manual chapter 10.5.6:

Method visibility and @Transactional

When using proxies, you should apply the @Transactional annotation only to methods with public visibility. If you do annotate protected, private or package-visible methods with the @Transactional annotation, no error is raised, but the annotated method does not exhibit the configured transactional settings. Consider the use of AspectJ (see below) if you need to annotate non-public methods.

This is not as easy as it seems, some core library functions don't work when only str is overwritten (checked with Python 2.7), see this thread for examples How to make a class JSON serializable Also, try this

import json

class A(unicode):
    def __str__(self):
        return 'a'
    def __unicode__(self):
        return u'a'
    def __repr__(self):
        return 'a'

a = A()
json.dumps(a)

produces

'""'

and not

'"a"'

as would be expected.

EDIT: answering mchicago's comment:

unicode does not have any attributes -- it is an immutable string, the value of which is hidden and not available from high-level Python code. The json module uses re for generating the string representation which seems to have access to this internal attribute. Here's a simple example to justify this:

b = A('b') print b

produces

'a'

while

json.dumps({'b': b})

produces

{"b": "b"}

so you see that the internal representation is used by some native libraries, probably for performance reasons.

How to change Toolbar Navigation and Overflow Menu icons (appcompat v7)?

if you want to change menu item icons, arrow icon (back/up), and 3 dots icon you can use android:tint

Java Error opening registry key

I had a similar problem. I had installed JDK7 update 1 but couldn't use it (probably because I found a JRE6 that I deleted after installing JDK7). Uninstalling JDK7 was impossible. The solution was to add the JRE registry entries by hand.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\JavaSoft\Java Runtime Environment]
"CurrentVersion"="1.7"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\JavaSoft\Java Runtime Environment\1.7]
"JavaHome"="C:\\Program Files\\Java\\jre7"
"RuntimeLib"="C:\\Program Files\\Java\\jre7\\bin\\client\\jvm.dll"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\JavaSoft\Java Runtime Environment\1.7.0_01]
"JavaHome"="C:\\Program Files\\Java\\jre7"
"RuntimeLib"="C:\\Program Files\\Java\\jre7\\bin\\client\\jvm.dll"

You'll have to adjust the above to your own directories and version.

If this doesn't help, there's still JavaRa http://raproducts.org/wordpress/ .

Javascript to stop HTML5 video playback on modal window close

Try this:

$(document).ready(function(){
    $("#showSimpleModal").click(function() {
        $("div#simpleModal").addClass("show");
        $("#videoContainer")[0].play();
        return false;
    });

    $("#closeSimple").click(function() {
        $("div#simpleModal").removeClass("show");
        $("#videoContainer")[0].pause();
        return false;
    });
});

How can I mock the JavaScript window object using Jest?

There are a couple of ways to mock globals in Jest:

  1. Use the mockImplementation approach (the most Jest-like way), but it will work only for those variables which has some default implementation provided by jsdom. window.open is one of them:

    test('it works', () => {
      // Setup
      const mockedOpen = jest.fn();
      // Without making a copy, you will have a circular dependency problem
      const originalWindow = { ...window };
      const windowSpy = jest.spyOn(global, "window", "get");
      windowSpy.mockImplementation(() => ({
        ...originalWindow, // In case you need other window properties to be in place
        open: mockedOpen
      }));

      // Tests
      statementService.openStatementsReport(111)
      expect(mockedOpen).toBeCalled();

      // Cleanup
      windowSpy.mockRestore();
    });

  2. Assign the value directly to the global property. It is the most straightforward, but it may trigger error messages for some window variables, e.g. window.href.

    test('it works', () => {
      // Setup
      const mockedOpen = jest.fn();
      const originalOpen = window.open;
      window.open = mockedOpen;

      // Tests
      statementService.openStatementsReport(111)
      expect(mockedOpen).toBeCalled();

      // Cleanup
      window.open = originalOpen;
    });

  3. Don't use globals directly (requires a bit of refactoring)

    Instead of using the global value directly, it might be cleaner to import it from another file, so mocking will became trivial with Jest.

File ./test.js

jest.mock('./fileWithGlobalValueExported.js');
import { windowOpen } from './fileWithGlobalValueExported.js';
import { statementService } from './testedFile.js';

// Tests
test('it works', () => {
  statementService.openStatementsReport(111)
  expect(windowOpen).toBeCalled();
});

File ./fileWithGlobalValueExported.js

export const windowOpen = window.open;

File ./testedFile.js

import { windowOpen } from './fileWithGlobalValueExported.js';
export const statementService = {
  openStatementsReport(contactIds) {
    windowOpen(`a_url_${contactIds}`);
  }
}

Map a 2D array onto a 1D array

It's important to store the data in a way that it can be retrieved in the languages used. C-language stores in row-major order (all of first row comes first, then all of second row,...) with every index running from 0 to it's dimension-1. So the order of array x[2][3] is x[0][0], x[0][1], x[0][2], x[1][0], x[1][1], x[1][2]. So in C language, x[i][j] is stored the same place as a 1-dimensional array entry x1dim[ i*3 +j]. If the data is stored that way, it is easy to retrieve in C language.

Fortran and MATLAB are different. They store in column-major order (all of first column comes first, then all of second row,...) and every index runs from 1 to it's dimension. So the index order is the reverse of C and all the indices are 1 greater. If you store the data in the C language order, FORTRAN can find X_C_language[i][j] using X_FORTRAN(j+1, i+1). For instance, X_C_language[1][2] is equal to X_FORTRAN(3,2). In 1-dimensional arrays, that data value is at X1dim_C_language[2*Cdim2 + 3], which is the same position as X1dim_FORTRAN(2*Fdim1 + 3 + 1). Remember that Cdim2 = Fdim1 because the order of indices is reversed.

MATLAB is the same as FORTRAN. Ada is the same as C except the indices normally start at 1. Any language will have the indices in one of those C or FORTRAN orders and the indices will start at 0 or 1 and can be adjusted accordingly to get at the stored data.

Sorry if this explanation is confusing, but I think it is accurate and important for a programmer to know.

Which programming language for cloud computing?

"Cloud computing" is more of an operating-system-level concept than a language concept.

Let's say you want to host an application on Amazon's EC2 cloud computing service -- you can develop it in any language you like, on any operating system supported by EC2 (several flavors of Linux, Solaris, and Windows), then install and run it "in the cloud" on one or more virtual machines, much as you would do on a dedicated physical server.

Create HTTP post request and receive response using C# console application

Insted of using System.Net.WebClient I would recommend to have a look on System.Net.Http.HttpClient which was introduced with net 4.5 and makes your life much easier.

Also microsoft recommends to use the HttpClient on this article

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.net.webclient(VS.90).aspx

An example could look like this:

var client = new HttpClient();
var content = new MultipartFormDataContent
{
     { new StringContent("myUserId"), "userid"},
     { new StringContent("myFileName"), "filename"},
     { new StringContent("myPassword"), "password"},
     { new StringContent("myType"), "type"}
};

var responseMessage = await client.PostAsync("some url", content);
var stream = await responseMessage.Content.ReadAsStreamAsync();

how to rename an index in a cluster?

Just in case someone still needs it. The successful, not official, way to rename indexes are:

  1. Close indexes that need to be renamed
  2. Rename indexes' folders in all data directories of master and data nodes.
  3. Reopen old closed indexes (I use kofp plugin). Old indexes will be reopened but stay unassigned. New indexes will appear in closed state
  4. Reopen new indexes
  5. Delete old indexes

If you happen to get this error "dangled index directory name is", remove index folder in all master nodes (not data nodes), and restart one of the data nodes.

How to add additional fields to form before submit?

You can add a hidden input with whatever value you need to send:

$('#form').submit(function(eventObj) {
    $(this).append('<input type="hidden" name="someName" value="someValue">');
    return true;
});

How do I link a JavaScript file to a HTML file?

Below you have some VALID html5 example document. The type attribute in script tag is not mandatory in HTML5.

You use jquery by $ charater. Put libraries (like jquery) in <head> tag - but your script put allways at the bottom of document (<body> tag) - due this you will be sure that all libraries and html document will be loaded when your script execution starts. You can also use src attribute in bottom script tag to include you script file instead of putting direct js code like above.

Convert a bitmap into a byte array

You can also just Marshal.Copy the bitmap data. No intermediary memorystream etc. and a fast memory copy. This should work on both 24-bit and 32-bit bitmaps.

public static byte[] BitmapToByteArray(Bitmap bitmap)
{

    BitmapData bmpdata = null;

    try
    {
        bmpdata = bitmap.LockBits(new Rectangle(0, 0, bitmap.Width, bitmap.Height), ImageLockMode.ReadOnly, bitmap.PixelFormat);
        int numbytes = bmpdata.Stride * bitmap.Height;
        byte[] bytedata = new byte[numbytes];
        IntPtr ptr = bmpdata.Scan0;

        Marshal.Copy(ptr, bytedata, 0, numbytes);

        return bytedata;
    }

How to use MD5 in javascript to transmit a password

You might want to check out this page: http://pajhome.org.uk/crypt/md5/

However, if protecting the password is important, you should really be using something like SHA256 (MD5 is not cryptographically secure iirc). Even more, you might want to consider using TLS and getting a cert so you can use https.

How to add System.Windows.Interactivity to project?

With Blend for Visual Studio, which is included in Visual Studio starting with version 2013, you can find the DLL in the following folder:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SDKs\Expression\Blend\.NETFramework\v4.5\Libraries

You will have to add the reference to the System.Windows.Interactivity.dll yourself though, unless you use Blend for Visual Studio with an existing project to add functionality that makes use of the Interactivity namespace. In that case, Blend will add the reference automatically.

Connection to SQL Server Works Sometimes

I had this problem when I did a SharePoint 2010 to 2013 migration. I suspected that because the database server is on the other side of a firewall which does not route IP6 that it was trying then to use IP6 and failing when connecting to the database.

I think the issue is now solved. The errors seem to have stopped. What I did was I simply disabled IP6 (by unchecking it) for the network adapter on the SharePoint Servers.

Reading rows from a CSV file in Python

The Easiest way is this way :

from csv import reader

# open file in read mode
with open('file.csv', 'r') as read_obj:
    # pass the file object to reader() to get the reader object
    csv_reader = reader(read_obj)
    # Iterate over each row in the csv using reader object
    for row in csv_reader:
        # row variable is a list that represents a row in csv
        print(row)

output:
['Year:', 'Dec:', 'Jan:']
['1', '50', '60']
['2', '25', '50']
['3', '30', '30']
['4', '40', '20']
['5', '10', '10']

How can I measure the similarity between two images?

Don't video encoding algorithms like MPEG compute the difference between each frame of a video so they can just encode the delta? You might look into how video encoding algorithms compute those frame differences.

Look at this open source image search application http://www.semanticmetadata.net/lire/. It describes several image similarity algorighms, three of which are from the MPEG-7 standard: ScalableColor, ColorLayout, EdgeHistogram and Auto Color Correlogram.

You can parse according to tag/parent/child very comfortably

What's the fastest way of checking if a point is inside a polygon in python

I will just leave it here, just rewrote the code above using numpy, maybe somebody finds it useful:

def ray_tracing_numpy(x,y,poly):
    n = len(poly)
    inside = np.zeros(len(x),np.bool_)
    p2x = 0.0
    p2y = 0.0
    xints = 0.0
    p1x,p1y = poly[0]
    for i in range(n+1):
        p2x,p2y = poly[i % n]
        idx = np.nonzero((y > min(p1y,p2y)) & (y <= max(p1y,p2y)) & (x <= max(p1x,p2x)))[0]
        if p1y != p2y:
            xints = (y[idx]-p1y)*(p2x-p1x)/(p2y-p1y)+p1x
        if p1x == p2x:
            inside[idx] = ~inside[idx]
        else:
            idxx = idx[x[idx] <= xints]
            inside[idxx] = ~inside[idxx]

        p1x,p1y = p2x,p2y
    return inside

Wrapped ray_tracing into

def ray_tracing_mult(x,y,poly):
    return [ray_tracing(xi, yi, poly[:-1,:]) for xi,yi in zip(x,y)]

Tested on 100000 points, results:

ray_tracing_mult 0:00:00.850656
ray_tracing_numpy 0:00:00.003769

What reference do I need to use Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel in .NET?

The best option since office 2007 is using Open XML SDK for it. We used Word.Interop but it halt sometimes, and it is not recommend for Microsoft, to use it as a server side document formatting, so Open XML SDK lets you creates word documents on DOCX and Open XML formats very easily. It lets you going well with scability, confidence ( the files, if it is corrupted can be rebuild ), and another very fine characteristics.

Reset AutoIncrement in SQL Server after Delete

What about this?

ALTER TABLE `table_name`
  MODIFY `id` int(12) NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT, AUTO_INCREMENT=0;

This is a quick and simple way to change the auto increment to 0 or whatever number you want. I figured this out by exporting a database and reading the code myself.

You can also write it like this to make it a single-line solution:

ALTER TABLE `table_name` MODIFY `id` int(12) NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT, AUTO_INCREMENT=0;

Select method of Range class failed via VBA

I believe you are having the same problem here.
The sheet must be active before you can select a range on it.

Also, don't omit the sheet name qualifier:

Or,

With Sheets("BxWsn Simulation")
  .Select
  .Range("Result").Select
End WIth

which is the same.

Send cookies with curl

You can use -b to specify a cookie file to read the cookies from as well.

In many situations using -c and -b to the same file is what you want:

curl -b cookies.txt -c cookies.txt http://example.com

Further

Using only -c will make curl start with no cookies but still parse and understand cookies and if redirects or multiple URLs are used, it will then use the received cookies within the single invoke before it writes them all to the output file in the end.

The -b option feeds a set of initial cookies into curl so that it knows about them at start, and it activates curl's cookie parser so that it'll parse and use incoming cookies as well.

error C2039: 'string' : is not a member of 'std', header file problem

You need to have

#include <string>

in the header file too.The forward declaration on it's own doesn't do enough.

Also strongly consider header guards for your header files to avoid possible future problems as your project grows. So at the top do something like:

#ifndef THE_FILE_NAME_H
#define THE_FILE_NAME_H

/* header goes in here */

#endif

This will prevent the header file from being #included multiple times, if you don't have such a guard then you can have issues with multiple declarations.

Just for others:

If you are not sure how to create a routine in phpmyadmin you can put this in the SQL query

    delimiter ;;
    drop procedure if exists test2;;
    create procedure test2()
    begin
    select ‘Hello World’;
    end
    ;;

Run the query. This will create a stored procedure or stored routine named test2. Now go to the routines tab and edit the stored procedure to be what you want. I also suggest reading http://net.tutsplus.com/tutorials/an-introduction-to-stored-procedures/ if you are beginning with stored procedures.

The first_day function you need is: How to get first day of every corresponding month in mysql?

Showing the Procedure is working Simply add the following line below END WHILE and above END

    SELECT @curmonth,@curmonthname,@totaldays,@daycount,@workdays,@checkweekday,@checkday;

Then use the following code in the SQL Query Window.

    call test2 /* or whatever you changed the name of the stored procedure to */

NOTE: If you use this please keep in mind that this code does not take in to account nationally observed holidays (or any holidays for that matter).

How to make Twitter Bootstrap menu dropdown on hover rather than click

Delete specific line number(s) from a text file using sed?

If you want to delete lines 5 through 10 and 12:

sed -e '5,10d;12d' file

This will print the results to the screen. If you want to save the results to the same file:

sed -i.bak -e '5,10d;12d' file

This will back the file up to file.bak, and delete the given lines.

Note: Line numbers start at 1. The first line of the file is 1, not 0.

What is the difference between declarative and imperative paradigm in programming?

I liked an explanation from a Cambridge course + their examples:

  • Declarative - specify what to do, not how to do it
    • E.g.: HTML describes what should appear on a web page, not how it should be drawn on the screen
  • Imperative - specify both what and how
    • int x; - what (declarative)
    • x=x+1; - how

SQL using sp_HelpText to view a stored procedure on a linked server

Instead of invoking the sp_helptext locally with a remote argument, invoke it remotely with a local argument:

EXEC  [ServerName].[DatabaseName].dbo.sp_HelpText 'storedProcName'

Check if a String contains numbers Java

I could not find a single pattern correct. Please follow below guide for a small and sweet solution.

String regex = "(.)*(\\d)(.)*";
Pattern pattern = Pattern.compile(regex);
String msg = "What is the square of 10?";
boolean containsNumber = pattern.matcher(msg).matches();

How do I pass named parameters with Invoke-Command?

-ArgumentList is based on use with scriptblock commands, like:

Invoke-Command -Cn (gc Servers.txt) {param($Debug=$False, $Clear=$False) C:\Scripts\ArchiveEventLogs\ver5\ArchiveEventLogs.ps1 } -ArgumentList $False,$True

When you call it with a -File it still passes the parameters like a dumb splatted array. I've submitted a feature request to have that added to the command (please vote that up).

So, you have two options:

If you have a script that looked like this, in a network location accessible from the remote machine (note that -Debug is implied because when I use the Parameter attribute, the script gets CmdletBinding implicitly, and thus, all of the common parameters):

param(
   [Parameter(Position=0)]
   $one
,
   [Parameter(Position=1)]
   $two
,
   [Parameter()]
   [Switch]$Clear
)

"The test is for '$one' and '$two' ... and we $(if($DebugPreference -ne 'SilentlyContinue'){"will"}else{"won't"}) run in debug mode, and we $(if($Clear){"will"}else{"won't"}) clear the logs after."

Without getting hung up on the meaning of $Clear ... if you wanted to invoke that you could use either of the following Invoke-Command syntaxes:

icm -cn (gc Servers.txt) {
    param($one,$two,$Debug=$False,$Clear=$False)
    C:\Scripts\ArchiveEventLogs\ver5\ArchiveEventLogs.ps1 @PSBoundParameters
} -ArgumentList "uno", "dos", $false, $true

In that one, I'm duplicating ALL the parameters I care about in the scriptblock so I can pass values. If I can hard-code them (which is what I actually did), there's no need to do that and use PSBoundParameters, I can just pass the ones I need to. In the second example below I'm going to pass the $Clear one, just to demonstrate how to pass switch parameters:

icm -cn $Env:ComputerName {
    param([bool]$Clear)
    C:\Scripts\ArchiveEventLogs\ver5\ArchiveEventLogs.ps1 "uno" "dos" -Debug -Clear:$Clear
} -ArgumentList $(Test-Path $Profile)

The other option

If the script is on your local machine, and you don't want to change the parameters to be positional, or you want to specify parameters that are common parameters (so you can't control them) you will want to get the content of that script and embed it in your scriptblock:

$script = [scriptblock]::create( @"
param(`$one,`$two,`$Debug=`$False,`$Clear=`$False)
&{ $(Get-Content C:\Scripts\ArchiveEventLogs\ver5\ArchiveEventLogs.ps1 -delimiter ([char]0)) } @PSBoundParameters
"@ )

Invoke-Command -Script $script -Args "uno", "dos", $false, $true

PostScript:

If you really need to pass in a variable for the script name, what you'd do will depend on whether the variable is defined locally or remotely. In general, if you have a variable $Script or an environment variable $Env:Script with the name of a script, you can execute it with the call operator (&): &$Script or &$Env:Script

If it's an environment variable that's already defined on the remote computer, that's all there is to it. If it's a local variable, then you'll have to pass it to the remote script block:

Invoke-Command -cn $Env:ComputerName {
    param([String]$Script, [bool]$Clear)
    & $ScriptPath "uno" "dos" -Debug -Clear:$Clear
} -ArgumentList $ScriptPath, (Test-Path $Profile)

Uncaught Error: SECURITY_ERR: DOM Exception 18 when I try to set a cookie

You can also "fix" this by replacing the image with its inline Base64 representation:

img.src= "data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhCwALAIAAAAAA3pn/ZiH5BAEAAAEALAAAAAALAAsAAAIUhA+hkcuO4lmNVindo7qyrIXiGBYAOw==";
Useful, when you do not intend to publish the page on the web, but instead use it on local machines only.

Using classes with the Arduino

My Webduino library is all based on a C++ class that implements a web server on top of the Arduino Ethernet shield. I defined the whole class in a .h file that any Arduino code can #include. Feel free to look at the code to see how I do it... I ended up just defining it all inline because there's no real reason to separately compile objects with the Arduino IDE.

Comparing two joda DateTime instances

DateTime inherits its equals method from AbstractInstant. It is implemented as such

public boolean equals(Object readableInstant) {     // must be to fulfil ReadableInstant contract     if (this == readableInstant) {         return true;     }     if (readableInstant instanceof ReadableInstant == false) {         return false;     }     ReadableInstant otherInstant = (ReadableInstant) readableInstant;     return         getMillis() == otherInstant.getMillis() &&         FieldUtils.equals(getChronology(), otherInstant.getChronology()); }

Notice the last line comparing chronology. It's possible your instances' chronologies are different.

I don't understand -Wl,-rpath -Wl,

One other thing. You may need to specify the -L option as well - eg

-Wl,-rpath,/path/to/foo -L/path/to/foo -lbaz

or you may end up with an error like

ld: cannot find -lbaz

React JS get current date

Your problem is that you are naming your component class Date. When you call new Date() within your class, it won't create an instance of the Date you expect it to create (which is likely this Date)- it will try to create an instance of your component class. Then the constructor will try to create another instance, and another instance, and another instance... Until you run out of stack space and get the error you're seeing.

If you want to use Date within your class, try naming your class something different such as Calendar or DateComponent.

The reason for this is how JavaScript deals with name scope: Whenever you create a new named entity, if there is already an entity with that name in scope, that name will stop referring to the previous entity and start referring to your new entity. So if you use the name Date within a class named Date, the name Date will refer to that class and not to any object named Date which existed before the class definition started.

How to avoid precompiled headers

The .cpp file is configured to use precompiled header, therefore it must be included first (before iostream). For Visual Studio, it's name is usually "stdafx.h".

If there are no stdafx* files in your project, you need to go to this file's options and set it as “Not using precompiled headers”.

m2e lifecycle-mapping not found

Maven is trying to download m2e's lifecycle-mapping artifact, which M2E uses to determine how to process plugins within Eclipse (adding source folders, etc.). For some reason this artifact cannot be downloaded. Do you have an internet connection? Can other artifacts be downloaded from repositories? Proxy settings?

For more details from Maven, try turning M2E debug output on (Settings/Maven/Debug Output checkbox) and it might give you more details as to why it cannot download from the repository.

What is the incentive for curl to release the library for free?

I'm Daniel Stenberg.

I made curl

I founded the curl project back in 1998, I wrote the initial curl version and I created libcurl. I've written more than half of all the 24,000 commits done in the source code repository up to this point in time. I'm still the lead developer of the project. To a large extent, curl is my baby.

I shipped the first version of curl as open source since I wanted to "give back" to the open source world that had given me so much code already. I had used so much open source and I wanted to be as cool as the other open source authors.

Thanks to it being open source, literally thousands of people have been able to help us out over the years and have improved the products, the documentation. the web site and just about every other detail around the project. curl and libcurl would never have become the products that they are today were they not open source. The list of contributors now surpass 1900 names and currently the list grows with a few hundred names per year.

Thanks to curl and libcurl being open source and liberally licensed, they were immediately adopted in numerous products and soon shipped by operating systems and Linux distributions everywhere thus getting a reach beyond imagination.

Thanks to them being "everywhere", available and liberally licensed they got adopted and used everywhere and by everyone. It created a defacto transfer library standard.

At an estimated six billion installations world wide, we can safely say that curl is the most widely used internet transfer library in the world. It simply would not have gone there had it not been open source. curl runs in billions of mobile phones, a billion Windows 10 installations, in a half a billion games and several hundred million TVs - and more.

Should I have released it with proprietary license instead and charged users for it? It never occured to me, and it wouldn't have worked because I would never had managed to create this kind of stellar project on my own. And projects and companies wouldn't have used it.

Why do I still work on curl?

Now, why do I and my fellow curl developers still continue to develop curl and give it away for free to the world?

  1. I can't speak for my fellow project team members. We all participate in this for our own reasons.
  2. I think it's still the right thing to do. I'm proud of what we've accomplished and I truly want to make the world a better place and I think curl does its little part in this.
  3. There are still bugs to fix and features to add!
  4. curl is free but my time is not. I still have a job and someone still has to pay someone for me to get paid every month so that I can put food on the table for my family. I charge customers and companies to help them with curl. You too can get my help for a fee, which then indirectly helps making sure that curl continues to evolve, remain free and the kick-ass product it is.
  5. curl was my spare time project for twenty years before I started working with it full time. I've had great jobs and worked on awesome projects. I've been in a position of luxury where I could continue to work on curl on my spare time and keep shipping a quality product for free. My work on curl has given me friends, boosted my career and taken me to places I would not have been at otherwise.
  6. I would not do it differently if I could back and do it again.

Am I proud of what we've done?

Yes. So insanely much.

But I'm not satisfied with this and I'm not just leaning back, happy with what we've done. I keep working on curl every single day, to improve, to fix bugs, to add features and to make sure curl keeps being the number one file transfer solution for the world even going forward.

We do mistakes along the way. We make the wrong decisions and sometimes we implement things in crazy ways. But to win in the end and to conquer the world is about patience and endurance and constantly going back and reconsidering previous decisions and correcting previous mistakes. To continuously iterate, polish off rough edges and gradually improve over time.

Never give in. Never stop. Fix bugs. Add features. Iterate. To the end of time.

For real?

Yeah. For real.

Do I ever get tired? Is it ever done?

Sure I get tired at times. Working on something every day for over twenty years isn't a paved downhill road. Sometimes there are obstacles. During times things are rough. Occasionally people are just as ugly and annoying as people can be.

But curl is my life's project and I have patience. I have thick skin and I don't give up easily. The tough times pass and most days are awesome. I get to hang out with awesome people and the reward is knowing that my code helps driving the Internet revolution everywhere is an ego boost above normal.

curl will never be "done" and so far I think work on curl is pretty much the most fun I can imagine. Yes, I still think so even after twenty years in the driver's seat. And as long as I think it's fun I intend to keep at it.

Can You Get A Users Local LAN IP Address Via JavaScript?

Chrome 76+

Last year I used Linblow's answer (2018-Oct-19) to successfully discover my local IP via javascript. However, recent Chrome updates (76?) have wonked this method so that it now returns an obfuscated IP, such as: 1f4712db-ea17-4bcf-a596-105139dfd8bf.local

If you have full control over your browser, you can undo this behavior by turning it off in Chrome Flags, by typing this into your address bar:

chrome://flags

and DISABLING the flag Anonymize local IPs exposed by WebRTC

In my case, I require the IP for a TamperMonkey script to determine my present location and do different things based on my location. I also have full control over my own browser settings (no Corporate Policies, etc). So for me, changing the chrome://flags setting does the trick.

Simulating Button click in javascript

The reason your code isn't working the way you would expect is because this line:

<button type="button" value="submit" onClick="document.getElementById("datepicker").click()">submit </button>

should be changed to:

<button type="button" value="submit" onClick="document.getElementById('datepicker').focus()">submit </button>

There are two things to notice here:

1: The "s around datepicker have been changed to 's so that they do not interfere with the quotes surrounding the onclick event.

2: The click() has been changed to focus() to activate the datepicker calendar. When the button is pressed.

Now, this fixes your issue...but I do agree with the other posts that using jQuery to access the DOM element and trigger the event is the better way to go. Since you're already doing this for the jQuery datapicker plugin via <script src="http://code.jquery.com/jquery-1.8.3.js"></script>, this should not be a problem.

Inline events are not recommended.

This also have the advantage that any short-circuits, and so the looping stops as soon as a match is found. Also, this only finds the first occurrence of a string from search_strings in linesX. If you want to find multiple occurrences you could do something like this:

>>> lines3 = ['corn', 'butter', 'apples']
>>> [(s, l) for l in lines3 for s in search_strings if s in l]
[('c', 'corn'), ('b', 'butter'), ('a', 'apples')]

If you feel like coding something more complex, it seems the Aho-Corasick algorithm can test for the presence of multiple substrings in a given input string. (Thanks to Niklas B. for pointing that out.) I still think it would result in quadratic performance for your use-case since you'll still have to call it multiple times to search multiple lines. However, it would beat the above (cubic, on average) algorithm.

Add A Year To Today's Date

In Angular, This is how you Calculate Date

today = new Date();
year = this.today.getFullYear();
month = this.today.getMonth();
day = this.today.getDate();
//To go 18 years back
yearsBack18= new Date(this.year - 18, this.month, this.day);

//To go to same day next year
nextYear= new Date(this.year + 1, this.month, this.day);

How to create a numpy array of arbitrary length strings?

You can do so by creating an array of dtype=object. If you try to assign a long string to a normal numpy array, it truncates the string:

>>> a = numpy.array(['apples', 'foobar', 'cowboy'])
>>> a[2] = 'bananas'
>>> a
array(['apples', 'foobar', 'banana'],
      dtype='|S6')

But when you use dtype=object, you get an array of python object references. So you can have all the behaviors of python strings:

>>> a = numpy.array(['apples', 'foobar', 'cowboy'], dtype=object)
>>> a
array([apples, foobar, cowboy], dtype=object)
>>> a[2] = 'bananas'
>>> a
array([apples, foobar, bananas], dtype=object)

Indeed, because it's an array of objects, you can assign any kind of python object to the array:

>>> a[2] = {1:2, 3:4}
>>> a
array([apples, foobar, {1: 2, 3: 4}], dtype=object)

However, this undoes a lot of the benefits of using numpy, which is so fast because it works on large contiguous blocks of raw memory. Working with python objects adds a lot of overhead. A simple example:

>>> a = numpy.array(['abba' for _ in range(10000)])
>>> b = numpy.array(['abba' for _ in range(10000)], dtype=object)
>>> %timeit a.copy()
100000 loops, best of 3: 2.51 us per loop
>>> %timeit b.copy()
10000 loops, best of 3: 48.4 us per loop

Warning about SSL connection when connecting to MySQL database

Solution To fix it, append a useSSL=false at the end of the MySQL connection string :

ex.

application.properties

mysql datasource

spring.datasource.url=jdbc:mysql://localhost/dbname?useSSL=false
spring.datasource.username=root
spring.datasource.password=password
spring.datasource.driver-class-name=com.mysql.jdbc.Driver

Cross origin requests are only supported for HTTP but it's not cross-domain

REM kill all existing instance of chrome
taskkill /F /IM chrome.exe /T
REM directory path where chrome.exe is located
set chromeLocation="C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application"
cd %chromeLocation%
cd c:
start chrome.exe --allow-file-access-from-files
  1. change chromeLocation path with yours.

  2. save above as .bat file.

  3. drag drop you file on the batch file you created. (chrome does give restore pages option though so if you have pages open just hit restore and it will work).

Escaping double quotes in JavaScript onClick event handler

I think that the best approach is to assign the onclick handler unobtrusively.

Something like this:

window.onload = function(){
    var myLink = document.getElementsById('myLinkId');
    myLink.onclick = function(){
        parse('#', false, '<a href="xyz');
        return false;
    }
}

//...

<a href="#" id="myLink">Test</a>

PHP convert XML to JSON

if you XML is a soap file, you can use this:

$xmlStr = preg_replace("/(<\/?)(\w+):([^>]*>)/", "$1$2$3", $xmlStr);
$xml = new SimpleXMLElement($xmlStr);
return json_encode($xml);

ASP.NET page life cycle explanation

There are 10 events in ASP.NET page life cycle, and the sequence is:

  1. Init
  2. Load view state
  3. Post back data
  4. Load
  5. Validate
  6. Events
  7. Pre-render
  8. Save view state
  9. Render
  10. Unload

Below is a pictorial view of ASP.NET Page life cycle with what kind of code is expected in that event. I suggest you read this article I wrote on the ASP.NET Page life cycle, which explains each of the 10 events in detail and when to use them.

How to set size for local image using knitr for markdown?

Here's some options that keep the file self-contained without retastering the image:

Wrap the image in div tags

<div style="width:300px; height:200px">
![Image](path/to/image)
</div>

Use a stylesheet

test.Rmd

---
title: test
output: html_document
css: test.css
---

## Page with an image {#myImagePage}

![Image](path/to/image)

test.css

#myImagePage img {
  width: 400px;
  height: 200px;
}

If you have more than one image you might need to use the nth-child pseudo-selector for this second option.

load external css file in body tag

No, it is not okay to put a link element in the body tag. See the specification (links to the HTML4.01 specs, but I believe it is true for all versions of HTML):

“This element defines a link. Unlike A, it may only appear in the HEAD section of a document, although it may appear any number of times.”

How to set connection timeout with OkHttp

If you want to customize the configuration then use the below methodology of creating OKhttpclient first and then add builder on top of it.

private final OkHttpClient client = new OkHttpClient();

// Copy to customize OkHttp for this request.
OkHttpClient client1 = client.newBuilder()
    .readTimeout(500, TimeUnit.MILLISECONDS)
    .build();
try (Response response = client1.newCall(request).execute()) {
    System.out.println("Response 1 succeeded: " + response);
} catch (IOException e) {
    System.out.println("Response 1 failed: " + e);
}

How to apply multiple transforms in CSS?

Just start from there that in CSS, if you repeat 2 values or more, always last one gets applied, unless using !important tag, but at the same time avoid using !important as much as you can, so in your case that's the problem, so the second transform override the first one in this case...

So how you can do what you want then?...

Don't worry, transform accepts multiple values at the same time... So this code below will work:

li:nth-child(2) {
  transform: rotate(15deg) translate(-20px, 0px); //multiple
}

If you like to play around with transform run the iframe from MDN below:

<iframe src="https://interactive-examples.mdn.mozilla.net/pages/css/transform.html" class="interactive  " width="100%" frameborder="0" height="250"></iframe>

Add a properties file to IntelliJ's classpath

I had a similar problem with a log4j.xml file for a unit test, did all of the above. But figured out it was because I was only re-running a failed test....if I re-run the entire test class the correct file is picked up. This is under Intelli-j 9.0.4

How to set URL query params in Vue with Vue-Router

Here is the example in docs:

// with query, resulting in /register?plan=private
router.push({ path: 'register', query: { plan: 'private' }})

Ref: https://router.vuejs.org/en/essentials/navigation.html

As mentioned in those docs, router.replace works like router.push

So, you seem to have it right in your sample code in question. But I think you may need to include either name or path parameter also, so that the router has some route to navigate to. Without a name or path, it does not look very meaningful.

This is my current understanding now:

  • query is optional for router - some additional info for the component to construct the view
  • name or path is mandatory - it decides what component to show in your <router-view>.

That might be the missing thing in your sample code.

EDIT: Additional details after comments

Have you tried using named routes in this case? You have dynamic routes, and it is easier to provide params and query separately:

routes: [
    { name: 'user-view', path: '/user/:id', component: UserView },
    // other routes
]

and then in your methods:

this.$router.replace({ name: "user-view", params: {id:"123"}, query: {q1: "q1"} })

Technically there is no difference between the above and this.$router.replace({path: "/user/123", query:{q1: "q1"}}), but it is easier to supply dynamic params on named routes than composing the route string. But in either cases, query params should be taken into account. In either case, I couldn't find anything wrong with the way query params are handled.

After you are inside the route, you can fetch your dynamic params as this.$route.params.id and your query params as this.$route.query.q1.

Dynamic require in RequireJS, getting "Module name has not been loaded yet for context" error?

The limitation relates to the simplified CommonJS syntax vs. the normal callback syntax:

Loading a module is inherently an asynchronous process due to the unknown timing of downloading it. However, RequireJS in emulation of the server-side CommonJS spec tries to give you a simplified syntax. When you do something like this:

var foomodule = require('foo');
// do something with fooModule

What's happening behind the scenes is that RequireJS is looking at the body of your function code and parsing out that you need 'foo' and loading it prior to your function execution. However, when a variable or anything other than a simple string, such as your example...

var module = require(path); // Call RequireJS require

...then Require is unable to parse this out and automatically convert it. The solution is to convert to the callback syntax;

var moduleName = 'foo';
require([moduleName], function(fooModule){
    // do something with fooModule
})

Given the above, here is one possible rewrite of your 2nd example to use the standard syntax:

define(['dyn_modules'], function (dynModules) {
    require(dynModules, function(){
        // use arguments since you don't know how many modules you're getting in the callback
        for (var i = 0; i < arguments.length; i++){
            var mymodule = arguments[i];
            // do something with mymodule...
        }
    });

});

EDIT: From your own answer, I see you're using underscore/lodash, so using _.values and _.object can simplify the looping through arguments array as above.

How to set up tmux so that it starts up with specified windows opened?

You can use tmux hooks to execute commands when a new session is created. Specifically, this is achieved using the session-created hook.

For example, to split the screen three ways with htop running in the lower right you can add the following line to your ~/.tmux.conf file:

set-hook -g session-created 'split -h ; split -v top'

The advantage of this method is that you don't have to run tmux in any special way (i.e., shell script or alias) to get the desired result. You can also combine this with tmux new-session -A -s mysession described in this other answer such that the hook commands are only run when you first create the session and not on subsequent attachments.

This feature was added by d15d54c2c back in 2016. The first release to include it is is 2.4.
