Running Selenium Webdriver with a proxy in Python

How about something like this

PROXY = "149.215.113.110:70"

webdriver.DesiredCapabilities.FIREFOX['proxy'] = {
    "httpProxy":PROXY,
    "ftpProxy":PROXY,
    "sslProxy":PROXY,
    "noProxy":None,
    "proxyType":"MANUAL",
    "class":"org.openqa.selenium.Proxy",
    "autodetect":False
}

# you have to use remote, otherwise you'll have to code it yourself in python to
driver = webdriver.Remote("http://localhost:4444/wd/hub", webdriver.DesiredCapabilities.FIREFOX)

Why does the Google Play store say my Android app is incompatible with my own device?

I have experienced this problem too while developing an application for a customer that wanted to have videos offline available from their application. I have written a blogpost about why the app I worked on for months wouldn't show up in the play store for my device (post can be found here). I found the same as @Greg Hewgill found: Cache partition limitations on some devices.

The journey didn't stop for me there. The customer wanted to have these videos in the application and didn't want the quality of the video to be decreased. After some research I figured out that using expansion files was the perfect solution to our problem.

To share my knowledge with the Android community I held a talk at droidconNL 2012 about expansion files. I created a presentation and sample code to illustrate how easy it can be to start using expansion files. For any of you out there wanting to use expansion files to solve this problem feel free to check out the post containing the presentation and the sample code

CSS vertical alignment text inside li

Surprisingly (or not), the vertical-align tool actually works best for this job. Best of all, no Javascript is required.

In the following example, I am positioning the outer class in the middle of the body, and the inner class in the middle of the outer class.

Preview: http://jsfiddle.net/tLkSV/513/

HTML:

<div id="container">
    <span></span><div class="outer">
        <span></span><div class="inner">

        </div>
    </div>
</div>

CSS:

html, body {
    height: 100%;
    margin: 0;
    padding: 0; }
#container {
    text-align: center;
    height: 100%; }
span {
    height: 100%;
    vertical-align: middle;
    display: inline-block; }
.outer {
    width: 100px;
    height: 200px;
    padding: 0;
    border: 1px solid #000;
    vertical-align: middle;
    display: inline-block; }
.inner {
    background: red;
    width: 30px;
    height: 20px;
    vertical-align: middle;
    display: inline-block; }

Vertical align works by aligning the centers of elements that are next to each other. Applying vertical-align to a single element does absolutely nothing. If you add a second element that has no width but is the height of the container, your single element will move to vertically center with this no-width element, thus vertically centering it. The only requirements are that you set both elements to inline (or inline-block), and set their vertical-align attribute to vertical-align: middle.

Note: You may notice in my code below that my <span> tag and <div> tag are touching. Because they are both inline elements, a space will actually add a space between the no-width element and your div, so be sure to leave it out.

How to select ALL children (in any level) from a parent in jQuery?

Use jQuery.find() to find children more than one level deep.

The .find() and .children() methods are similar, except that the latter only travels a single level down the DOM tree.

$('#google_translate_element').find('*').unbind('click');

You need the '*' in find():

Unlike in the rest of the tree traversal methods, the selector expression is required in a call to .find(). If we need to retrieve all of the descendant elements, we can pass in the universal selector '*' to accomplish this.

Gridview row editing - dynamic binding to a DropDownList

The checked answer from balexandre works great. But, it will create a problem if adapted to some other situations.

I used it to change the value of two label controls - lblEditModifiedBy and lblEditModifiedOn - when I was editing a row, so that the correct ModifiedBy and ModifiedOn would be saved to the db on 'Update'.

When I clicked the 'Update' button, in the RowUpdating event it showed the new values I entered in the OldValues list. I needed the true "old values" as Original_ values when updating the database. (There's an ObjectDataSource attached to the GridView.)

The fix to this is using balexandre's code, but in a modified form in the gv_DataBound event:

protected void gv_DataBound(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
    foreach (GridViewRow gvr in gv.Rows)
    {
        if (gvr.RowType == DataControlRowType.DataRow && (gvr.RowState & DataControlRowState.Edit) == DataControlRowState.Edit)
        {
            // Here you will get the Control you need like:
            ((Label)gvr.FindControl("lblEditModifiedBy")).Text = Page.User.Identity.Name;
            ((Label)gvr.FindControl("lblEditModifiedOn")).Text = DateTime.Now.ToString();
        }
    }
}

What are the differences between the urllib, urllib2, urllib3 and requests module?

A key point that I find missing in the above answers is that urllib returns an object of type <class http.client.HTTPResponse> whereas requests returns <class 'requests.models.Response'>.

Due to this, read() method can be used with urllib but not with requests.

P.S. : requests is already rich with so many methods that it hardly needs one more as read() ;>

KERNELBASE.dll Exception 0xe0434352 offset 0x000000000000a49d

0xe0434352 is the SEH code for a CLR exception. If you don't understand what that means, stop and read A Crash Course on the Depths of Win32™ Structured Exception Handling. So your process is not handling a CLR exception. Don't shoot the messenger, KERNELBASE.DLL is just the unfortunate victim. The perpetrator is MyApp.exe.

There should be a minidump of the crash in DrWatson folders with a full stack, it will contain everything you need to root cause the issue.

I suggest you wire up, in your myapp.exe code, AppDomain.UnhandledException and Application.ThreadException, as appropriate.

SQL Update to the SUM of its joined values

With postgres, I had to adjust the solution with this to work for me:

UPDATE BookingPitches AS p
SET extrasPrice = t.sumPrice
FROM
    (
        SELECT PitchID, SUM(Price) sumPrice
        FROM BookingPitchExtras
        WHERE [required] = 1
        GROUP BY PitchID
    ) t
WHERE t.PitchID = p.ID AND p.bookingID = 1

What is correct media query for IPad Pro?

Too late but may this save you from headache! All of these is because we have to detect the target browser is a mobile!

Is this a mobile then combine it with min/max-(width/height)'s

So Just this seems works:

@media (hover: none) {
    /* ... */
}

If the primary input mechanism system of the device cannot hover over elements with ease or they can but not easily (for example a long touch is performed to emulate the hover) or there is no primary input mechanism at all, we use none! There are many cases that you can read from bellow links.

List comprehension with if statement

You put the if at the end:

[y for y in a if y not in b]

List comprehensions are written in the same order as their nested full-specified counterparts, essentially the above statement translates to:

outputlist = []
for y in a:
    if y not in b:
        outputlist.append(y)

Your version tried to do this instead:

outputlist = []
if y not in b:
    for y in a:
        outputlist.append(y)

but a list comprehension must start with at least one outer loop.

T-SQL: Selecting rows to delete via joins

The syntax above doesn't work in Interbase 2007. Instead, I had to use something like:

DELETE FROM TableA a WHERE [filter condition on TableA]
  AND (a.BId IN (SELECT a.BId FROM TableB b JOIN TableA a
                 ON a.BId = b.BId
                 WHERE [filter condition on TableB]))

How to use pip with python 3.4 on windows?

Usage of pip for installation of packages in Python 3

Step 1: Install Python 3. Yes, by default an application file pip3.exe is already located there in the path (E.g.):

C:/Users/name/AppData/Local/Programs/Python/Python36-32/Scripts

Step 2: Go to

>Control Panel (Local Machine) > System > Advanced system settings >

>Click on `Environment Variables` >
Set a New User Variable, for this click `New` >
Write new 'Variable name' as "PYTHON_SCRIPTS" >
Copy that path of `pip3.exe` and paste within variable value > `OK` >

>Below again find out and click on `Path` under 'system variables' >
Edit this path >
Within 'Variable value' append and paste the same path of `pip3.exe` after putting a ';' >
Click `OK`/`Apply` and come out.

Step 3: Now, open cmd bash/shell by Pressing key Windows+R.

> Write 'pip3' and press 'Enter'. If pip3 is recognized you can go ahead.

Step 4: In this same cmd

> Write path of the `pip3.exe` followed by `/pip install 'package name'`

As Example just write:

C:/Users/name/AppData/Local/Programs/Python/Python36-32/Scripts/pip install matplotlib

Press Enter now. The Package matplotlib will start getting downloaded.

Further, for upgrading any package

Open cmd bash/shell again, then

type that path of pip3.exe followed by /pip install --upgrade 'package name' Press Enter.

As Example just write:

C:/Users/name/AppData/Local/Programs/Python/Python36-32/Scripts/pip install --upgrade matplotlib

Upgrading of the package will start :)

How do I make Git ignore file mode (chmod) changes?

Adding to Greg Hewgill answer (of using core.fileMode config variable):

You can use --chmod=(-|+)x option of git update-index (low-level version of "git add") to change execute permissions in the index, from where it would be picked up if you use "git commit" (and not "git commit -a").

Git - how delete file from remote repository

The easiest thing to do is to move the file from your local directory temporarily, then commit changes to your remote repo. Then add it back to your local repo, make sure to update .gitignore so it doesn't commit to remote again

Console app arguments, how arguments are passed to Main method

The main method of the runtime engine looks something like int main(int argc, char *argv[]), where argc is a count of the number of arguments and argv is an array of pointers to each. The runtime engine converts this into a form that is more natural to c#.

Prior to that main method being called, everything is in assembly language. It has access to the command line arguments (because the operating system makes that available to every process that starts), but that assembly language needs to convert a single string of the full command line into multiple substrings (using whitespace to separate them) before it's ready to pass them into main().

.attr('checked','checked') does not work

With jQuery, never use inline onclick javascript. Keep it unobtrusive. Do this instead, and remove the onclick completely.

Also, note the use of the :checked pseudo selector in the last line. The reason for this is because once the page is loaded, the html and the actual state of the form element can be different. Open a web inspector and you can click on the other radio button and the HTML will still show the first one is checked. The :checked selector instead filters elements that are actually checked, regardless of what the html started as.

$('button').click(function() {
    alert($('input[name="myname"][value="b"]').length);
    $('input[name="myname"][value="b"]').attr('checked','checked');
    $('#b').attr('checked',true);
    alert($('input[name="myname"]:checked').val());
});

PHPExcel auto size column width

If you try to iterate with for ($col = 2; $col <= 'AC'; ++ $col){...}, or with foreach(range('A','AC') as $col) {...} it will work for columns from A to Z, but it fails pass the Z (Ex. iterate between 'A' to 'AC').

In order to iterate pass 'Z', you need to convert the column to integer, increment, compare, and get it as string again:

$MAX_COL = $sheet->getHighestDataColumn();
$MAX_COL_INDEX = PHPExcel_Cell::columnIndexFromString($MAX_COL);
    for($index=0 ; $index <= $MAX_COL_INDEX ; $index++){
    $col = PHPExcel_Cell::stringFromColumnIndex($index);

    // do something, like set the column width...
    $sheet->getColumnDimension($col)->setAutoSize(TRUE);
}

With this, you easy iterate pass the 'Z' column and set autosize to every column.

Best practice: PHP Magic Methods __set and __get

I am now returning to setters and getters but I am also putting the getters and setters in the magic methos __get and __set. This way I have a default behavior when I do this

$class->var;

This will just call the getter I have set in the __get. Normally I will just use the getter directly but there are still some instances where this is just simpler.

How can I format decimal property to currency?

Below would also work, but you cannot put in the getter of a decimal property. The getter of a decimal property can only return a decimal, for which formatting does not apply.

decimal moneyvalue = 1921.39m;
string currencyValue = moneyvalue.ToString("C");

How to filter object array based on attributes?

here is the working fiddle which works fine in IE8 using jquery MAP function

http://jsfiddle.net/533135/Cj4j7/

json.HOMES = $.map(json.HOMES, function(val, key) {
    if (Number(val.price) <= 1000
            && Number(val.sqft) >= 500
            && Number(val.num_of_beds) >=2
            && Number(val.num_of_baths ) >= 2.5)
        return val;
});

var self = this?

I haven't used jQuery, but in a library like Prototype you can bind functions to a specific scope. So with that in mind your code would look like this:

 $('#foobar').ready('click', this.doSomething.bind(this));

The bind method returns a new function that calls the original method with the scope you have specified.

LINQ query to find if items in a list are contained in another list

var test2NotInTest1 = test2.Where(t2 => test1.Count(t1 => t2.Contains(t1))==0);

Faster version as per Tim's suggestion:

var test2NotInTest1 = test2.Where(t2 => !test1.Any(t1 => t2.Contains(t1)));

Opposite of append in jquery

You could use remove(). More information on jQuery remove().

$(this).children("ul").remove();

Note that this will remove all ul elements that are children.

How to call a function from another controller in angularjs?

Communication between controllers is done though $emit + $on / $broadcast + $on methods.

So in your case you want to call a method of Controller "One" inside Controller "Two", the correct way to do this is:

app.controller('One', ['$scope', '$rootScope'
    function($scope) {
        $rootScope.$on("CallParentMethod", function(){
           $scope.parentmethod();
        });

        $scope.parentmethod = function() {
            // task
        }
    }
]);
app.controller('two', ['$scope', '$rootScope'
    function($scope) {
        $scope.childmethod = function() {
            $rootScope.$emit("CallParentMethod", {});
        }
    }
]);

While $rootScope.$emit is called, you can send any data as second parameter.

Performing a query on a result from another query?

You just wrap your query in another one:

SELECT COUNT(*), SUM(Age)
FROM (
    SELECT availables.bookdate AS Count, DATEDIFF(now(),availables.updated_at) as Age
    FROM availables
    INNER JOIN rooms
    ON availables.room_id=rooms.id
    WHERE availables.bookdate BETWEEN '2009-06-25' AND date_add('2009-06-25', INTERVAL 4 DAY) AND rooms.hostel_id = 5094
    GROUP BY availables.bookdate
) AS tmp;

php $_GET and undefined index

Get into the habit of checking if a variable is available with isset, e.g.

if (isset($_GET['s']))
{
     //do stuff that requires 's'
}
else
{
     //do stuff that doesn't need 's'
}

You could disable notice reporting, but dealing them is good hygiene, and can allow you to spot problems you might otherwise miss.

Remove all html tags from php string

use this regex: /<[^<]+?>/g

$val = preg_replace('/<[^<]+?>/g', ' ', $row_get_Business['business_description']);

$businessDesc = substr(val,0,110);

from your example should stay: Ref no: 30001

Counting Number of Letters in a string variable

How to add button inside input

This is the cleanest way to do in bootstrap v3.

<div class="form-group">
    <div class="input-group">
        <input type="text" name="search" class="form-control" placeholder="Search">
        <span><button type="submit" class="btn btn-primary"><i class="fa fa-search"></i></button></span>
     </div>

What do "branch", "tag" and "trunk" mean in Subversion repositories?

Hmm, not sure I agree with Nick re tag being similar to a branch. A tag is just a marker

  • Trunk would be the main body of development, originating from the start of the project until the present.

  • Branch will be a copy of code derived from a certain point in the trunk that is used for applying major changes to the code while preserving the integrity of the code in the trunk. If the major changes work according to plan, they are usually merged back into the trunk.

  • Tag will be a point in time on the trunk or a branch that you wish to preserve. The two main reasons for preservation would be that either this is a major release of the software, whether alpha, beta, RC or RTM, or this is the most stable point of the software before major revisions on the trunk were applied.

In open source projects, major branches that are not accepted into the trunk by the project stakeholders can become the bases for forks -- e.g., totally separate projects that share a common origin with other source code.

The branch and tag subtrees are distinguished from the trunk in the following ways:

Subversion allows sysadmins to create hook scripts which are triggered for execution when certain events occur; for instance, committing a change to the repository. It is very common for a typical Subversion repository implementation to treat any path containing "/tag/" to be write-protected after creation; the net result is that tags, once created, are immutable (at least to "ordinary" users). This is done via the hook scripts, which enforce the immutability by preventing further changes if tag is a parent node of the changed object.

Subversion also has added features, since version 1.5, relating to "branch merge tracking" so that changes committed to a branch can be merged back into the trunk with support for incremental, "smart" merging.

How do I filter ForeignKey choices in a Django ModelForm?

A more public way is by calling get_form in Admin classes. It also works for non-database fields too. For example here i have a field called '_terminal_list' on the form that can be used in special cases for choosing several terminal items from get_list(request), then filtering based on request.user:

class ChangeKeyValueForm(forms.ModelForm):
    _terminal_list = forms.ModelMultipleChoiceField(
queryset=Terminal.objects.all() )

    class Meta:
        model = ChangeKeyValue
        fields = ['_terminal_list', 'param_path', 'param_value', 'scheduled_time',  ]

class ChangeKeyValueAdmin(admin.ModelAdmin):
    form = ChangeKeyValueForm
    list_display = ('terminal','task_list', 'plugin','last_update_time')
    list_per_page =16

    def get_form(self, request, obj = None, **kwargs):
        form = super(ChangeKeyValueAdmin, self).get_form(request, **kwargs)
        qs, filterargs = Terminal.get_list(request)
        form.base_fields['_terminal_list'].queryset = qs
        return form

Updating state on props change in React Form

The new hooks way of doing this is to use useEffect instead of componentWillReceiveProps the old way:

componentWillReceiveProps(nextProps) {
  // You don't have to do this check first, but it can help prevent an unneeded render
  if (nextProps.startTime !== this.state.startTime) {
    this.setState({ startTime: nextProps.startTime });
  }
}

becomes the following in a functional hooks driven component:

// store the startTime prop in local state
const [startTime, setStartTime] = useState(props.startTime)
//
useEffect(() => {
  if (props.startTime !== startTime) {
    setStartTime(props.startTime);
  }
}, [props.startTime]);

we set the state using setState, using useEffect we check for changes to the specified prop, and take the action to update the state on change of the prop.

Truncate number to two decimal places without rounding

The answers here didn't help me, it kept rounding up or giving me the wrong decimal.

my solution converts your decimal to a string, extracts the characters and then returns the whole thing as a number.

function Dec2(num) {
  num = String(num);
  if(num.indexOf('.') !== -1) {
    var numarr = num.split(".");
    if (numarr.length == 1) {
      return Number(num);
    }
    else {
      return Number(numarr[0]+"."+numarr[1].charAt(0)+numarr[1].charAt(1));
    }
  }
  else {
    return Number(num);
  }
}

Dec2(99); // 99
Dec2(99.9999999); // 99.99
Dec2(99.35154); // 99.35
Dec2(99.8); // 99.8
Dec2(10265.985475); // 10265.98

Are nested try/except blocks in Python a good programming practice?

I like to avoid raising a new exception while handling an old one. It makes the error messages confusing to read.

For example, in my code, I originally wrote

try:
    return tuple.__getitem__(self, i)(key)
except IndexError:
    raise KeyError(key)

And I got this message.

>>> During handling of above exception, another exception occurred.

I wanted this:

try:
    return tuple.__getitem__(self, i)(key)
except IndexError:
    pass
raise KeyError(key)

It doesn't affect how exceptions are handled. In either block of code, a KeyError would have been caught. This is merely an issue of getting style points.

Excel formula to get ranking position

Type this to B3, and then pull it to the rest of the rows:

=IF(C3=C2,B2,B2+COUNTIF($C$1:$C3,C2))

What it does is:

How to change language of app when user selects language?

all the above @Uday's code is perfect but only one thing is missing(default config in build.gradle)

public void setLocale(String lang) {
Locale myLocale = new Locale(lang);
Resources res = getResources();
DisplayMetrics dm = res.getDisplayMetrics();
Configuration conf = res.getConfiguration();
conf.locale = myLocale;
res.updateConfiguration(conf, dm);
Intent refresh = new Intent(this, AndroidLocalize.class);
finish();
startActivity(refresh);

}

Mine was not working just because the languages were not mentioned in the config file(build.gradle)

 defaultConfig {
    resConfigs "en", "hi", "kn"
}

after that, all languages started running

How do I count a JavaScript object's attributes?

You can iterate over the object to get the keys or values:

function numKeys(obj)
{
    var count = 0;
    for(var prop in obj)
    {
        count++;
    }
    return count;
}

It looks like a "spelling mistake" but just want to point out that your example is invalid syntax, should be

var object = {"key1":"value1","key2":"value2","key3":"value3"};

ImportError: No module named 'Queue'

I just copy the file name Queue.py in the */lib/python2.7/ to queue.py and that solved my problem.

re.sub erroring with "Expected string or bytes-like object"

The simplest solution is to apply Python str function to the column you are trying to loop through.

If you are using pandas, this can be implemented as:

dataframe['column_name']=dataframe['column_name'].apply(str)

How can I show a message box with two buttons?

Remember - if you set the buttons to vbOkOnly - it will always return 1.

So you can't decide if a user clicked on the close or the OK button. You just have to add a vbOk option.

How do I select a sibling element using jQuery?

Here is a link which is useful to learn about select a siblings element in Jquery.

How do I select a sibling element using jQuery

Traverse a list in reverse order in Python

input_list = ['foo','bar','baz']
for i in range(-1,-len(input_list)-1,-1)
    print(input_list[i])

i think this one is also simple way to do it... read from end and keep decrementing till the length of list, since we never execute the "end" index hence added -1 also

Can you call ko.applyBindings to bind a partial view?

ko.applyBindings accepts a second parameter that is a DOM element to use as the root.

This would let you do something like:

<div id="one">
  <input data-bind="value: name" />
</div>

<div id="two">
  <input data-bind="value: name" />
</div>

<script type="text/javascript">
  var viewModelA = {
     name: ko.observable("Bob")
  };

  var viewModelB = {
     name: ko.observable("Ted")
  };

  ko.applyBindings(viewModelA, document.getElementById("one"));
  ko.applyBindings(viewModelB, document.getElementById("two"));
</script>

So, you can use this technique to bind a viewModel to the dynamic content that you load into your dialog. Overall, you just want to be careful not to call applyBindings multiple times on the same elements, as you will get multiple event handlers attached.

Unsigned values in C

Having unsigned in variable declaration is more useful for the programmers themselves - don't treat the variables as negative. As you've noticed, both -1 and 4294967295 have exact same bit representation for a 4 byte integer. It's all about how you want to treat or see them.

The statement unsigned int a = -1; is converting -1 in two's complement and assigning the bit representation in a. The printf() specifier x, d and u are showing how the bit representation stored in variable a looks like in different format.

Serializing an object to JSON

Import functions from another js file. Javascript

You can try as follows:

//------ js/functions.js ------
export function square(x) {
    return x * x;
}
export function diag(x, y) {
    return sqrt(square(x) + square(y));
}

//------ js/main.js ------
import { square, diag } from './functions.js';
console.log(square(11)); // 121
console.log(diag(4, 3)); // 5

You can also import completely:

//------ js/main.js ------
import * as lib from './functions.js';
console.log(lib.square(11)); // 121
console.log(lib.diag(4, 3)); // 5

Normally we use ./fileName.js for importing own js file/module and fileName.js is used for importing package/library module

When you will include the main.js file to your webpage you must set the type="module" attribute as follows:

<script type="module" src="js/main.js"></script>

Set NA to 0 in R

A solution using mutate_all from dplyr in case you want to add that to your dplyr pipeline:

library(dplyr)
df %>%
  mutate_all(funs(ifelse(is.na(.), 0, .)))

Result:

   A B C
1  0 0 0
2  1 0 0
3  2 0 2
4  3 0 5
5  0 0 2
6  0 0 1
7  1 0 1
8  2 0 5
9  3 0 2
10 0 0 4
11 0 0 3
12 1 0 5
13 2 0 5
14 3 0 0
15 0 0 1

If in any case you only want to replace the NA's in numeric columns, which I assume it might be the case in modeling, you can use mutate_if:

library(dplyr)
df %>%
  mutate_if(is.numeric, funs(ifelse(is.na(.), 0, .)))

or in base R:

replace(is.na(df), 0)

Result:

   A    B C
1  0    0 0
2  1 <NA> 0
3  2    0 2
4  3 <NA> 5
5  0    0 2
6  0 <NA> 1
7  1    0 1
8  2 <NA> 5
9  3    0 2
10 0 <NA> 4
11 0    0 3
12 1 <NA> 5
13 2    0 5
14 3 <NA> 0
15 0    0 1

Update

with dplyr 1.0.0, across is introduced:

library(dplyr)
# Replace `NA` for all columns
df %>%
  mutate(across(everything(), ~ ifelse(is.na(.), 0, .)))

# Replace `NA` for numeric columns
df %>%
  mutate(across(where(is.numeric), ~ ifelse(is.na(.), 0, .)))

Data:

set.seed(123)
df <- data.frame(A=rep(c(0:3, NA), 3),
                 B=rep(c("0", NA), length.out = 15),
                 C=sample(c(0:5, NA), 15, replace = TRUE))

How to use java.String.format in Scala?

Although @Londo mentioned Scala's "s" string interpolator, I think Scala's "f" string interpolator is more relevant to the original question. The example used a few time in other responses could also be written (since Scala 2.10) this way:

scala> val name = "Ivan"
name: String = Ivan
scala> val thing = "Scala"
thing: String = Scala
scala> val formatted = f"Hello $name%s, isn't $thing%s cool?"
formatted: String = Hello Ivan, isn't Scala cool?

The connection to the original question is to be aware that:

  • formatted is defined with a string that is prefixed with the letter "f". This is the "f" (formatting) string interpolator.
  • The "f" string interpolator uses java.util.Formatter
  • java.lang.String.format uses the same java.util.Formatter

The nice thing about string interpolation is that it lets you see which variable is being substituted directly into the string instead of having to match it with the arguments to the String.format method.

Java HashMap: How to get a key and value by index?

You can do:

for(String key: hashMap.keySet()){
    for(String value: hashMap.get(key)) {
        // use the value here
    }
}

This will iterate over every key, and then every value of the list associated with each key.

How to use Boost in Visual Studio 2010

In addition, there is something I find very useful. Use environment variables for your boost paths. (How to set environment variables in windows, link at bottom for 7,8,10) The BOOST_ROOT variable seems to be common place anymore and is set to the root path where you unzip boost.

Then in Properties, c++, general, Additional Include Directories use $(BOOST_ROOT). Then if/when you move to a newer version of the boost library you can update your environment variable to point to this newer version. As more of your projects, use boost you will not have to update the 'Additional Include Directories' for all of them.

You may also create a BOOST_LIB variable and point it to where the libs are staged. So likewise for the Linker->Additional Library Directories, you won't have to update projects. I have some old stuff built with vs10 and new stuff with vs14 so built both flavors of the boost lib to the same folder. So if I move a project from vs10 to vs14 I don't have to change the boost paths.

NOTE: If you change an environment variable it will not suddenly work in an open VS project. VS loads variables on startup. So you will have to close VS and reopen it.

Convert boolean result into number/integer

You could do this by simply extending the boolean prototype

Boolean.prototype.intval = function(){return ~~this}

It is not too easy to understand what is going on there so an alternate version would be

Boolean.prototype.intval = function(){return (this == true)?1:0}

having done which you can do stuff like

document.write(true.intval());

When I use booleans to store conditions I often convert them to bitfields in which case I end up using an extended version of the prototype function

Boolean.prototype.intval = function(places)
{
 places = ('undefined' == typeof(places))?0:places;
 return (~~this) << places
}

with which you can do

document.write(true.intval(2))

which produces 4 as its output.

How do I create batch file to rename large number of files in a folder?

you can do this easily without manual editing or using fancy text editors. Here's a vbscript.

Set objFolder = objFS.GetFolder(strFolder)
For Each strFile In objFolder.Files
    If objFS.GetExtensionName(strFile) = "jpg" Then
        strFileName = strFile.Name
        If InStr(strFileName,"Vacation2010") > 0 Then
            strNewFileName = Replace(strFileName,"Vacation2010","December")
            strFile.Name = strNewFileName
        End If
    End If
Next

How to emulate a BEFORE INSERT trigger in T-SQL / SQL Server for super/subtype (Inheritance) entities?

Sometimes a BEFORE trigger can be replaced with an AFTER one, but this doesn't appear to be the case in your situation, for you clearly need to provide a value before the insert takes place. So, for that purpose, the closest functionality would seem to be the INSTEAD OF trigger one, as @marc_s has suggested in his comment.

Note, however, that, as the names of these two trigger types suggest, there's a fundamental difference between a BEFORE trigger and an INSTEAD OF one. While in both cases the trigger is executed at the time when the action determined by the statement that's invoked the trigger hasn't taken place, in case of the INSTEAD OF trigger the action is never supposed to take place at all. The real action that you need to be done must be done by the trigger itself. This is very unlike the BEFORE trigger functionality, where the statement is always due to execute, unless, of course, you explicitly roll it back.

But there's one other issue to address actually. As your Oracle script reveals, the trigger you need to convert uses another feature unsupported by SQL Server, which is that of FOR EACH ROW. There are no per-row triggers in SQL Server either, only per-statement ones. That means that you need to always keep in mind that the inserted data are a row set, not just a single row. That adds more complexity, although that'll probably conclude the list of things you need to account for.

So, it's really two things to solve then:

  • replace the BEFORE functionality;

  • replace the FOR EACH ROW functionality.

My attempt at solving these is below:

CREATE TRIGGER sub_trg
ON sub1
INSTEAD OF INSERT
AS
BEGIN
  DECLARE @new_super TABLE (
    super_id int
  );
  INSERT INTO super (subtype_discriminator)
  OUTPUT INSERTED.super_id INTO @new_super (super_id)
  SELECT 'SUB1' FROM INSERTED;

  INSERT INTO sub (super_id)
  SELECT super_id FROM @new_super;
END;

This is how the above works:

  1. The same number of rows as being inserted into sub1 is first added to super. The generated super_id values are stored in a temporary storage (a table variable called @new_super).

  2. The newly inserted super_ids are now inserted into sub1.

Nothing too difficult really, but the above will only work if you have no other columns in sub1 than those you've specified in your question. If there are other columns, the above trigger will need to be a bit more complex.

The problem is to assign the new super_ids to every inserted row individually. One way to implement the mapping could be like below:

CREATE TRIGGER sub_trg
ON sub1
INSTEAD OF INSERT
AS
BEGIN
  DECLARE @new_super TABLE (
    rownum   int IDENTITY (1, 1),
    super_id int
  );
  INSERT INTO super (subtype_discriminator)
  OUTPUT INSERTED.super_id INTO @new_super (super_id)
  SELECT 'SUB1' FROM INSERTED;

  WITH enumerated AS (
    SELECT *, ROW_NUMBER() OVER (ORDER BY (SELECT 1)) AS rownum
    FROM inserted
  )
  INSERT INTO sub1 (super_id, other columns)
  SELECT n.super_id, i.other columns
  FROM enumerated AS i
  INNER JOIN @new_super AS n
  ON i.rownum = n.rownum;
END;

As you can see, an IDENTIY(1,1) column is added to @new_user, so the temporarily inserted super_id values will additionally be enumerated starting from 1. To provide the mapping between the new super_ids and the new data rows, the ROW_NUMBER function is used to enumerate the INSERTED rows as well. As a result, every row in the INSERTED set can now be linked to a single super_id and thus complemented to a full data row to be inserted into sub1.

Note that the order in which the new super_ids are inserted may not match the order in which they are assigned. I considered that a no-issue. All the new super rows generated are identical save for the IDs. So, all you need here is just to take one new super_id per new sub1 row.

If, however, the logic of inserting into super is more complex and for some reason you need to remember precisely which new super_id has been generated for which new sub row, you'll probably want to consider the mapping method discussed in this Stack Overflow question:

JSON and escaping characters

hmm, well here's a workaround anyway:

function JSON_stringify(s, emit_unicode)
{
   var json = JSON.stringify(s);
   return emit_unicode ? json : json.replace(/[\u007f-\uffff]/g,
      function(c) {
        return '\\u'+('0000'+c.charCodeAt(0).toString(16)).slice(-4);
      }
   );
}

test case:

js>s='15\u00f8C 3\u0111';
15°C 3?
js>JSON_stringify(s, true)
"15°C 3?"
js>JSON_stringify(s, false)
"15\u00f8C 3\u0111"

Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded

if all the above didn't work for you then add an .htaccess file to the directory where your script is located and put this inside

<IfModule mod_php5.c>
php_value post_max_size 200M
php_value upload_max_filesize 200M
php_value memory_limit 300M
php_value max_execution_time 259200
php_value max_input_time 259200
php_value session.gc_maxlifetime 1200
</IfModule>

this was the way I solved my problem , neither ini_set('max_execution_time', 86400); nor set_time_limit(86400) solved my problem , but the .htaccess method did.

            completion?()
        }
        activityIndicatorView.stopAnimating()
    }
}

Usage

init

activityIndicator = LoadMoreActivityIndicator(scrollView: tableView, spacingFromLastCell: 10, spacingFromLastCellWhenLoadMoreActionStart: 60)

handling

extension ViewController: UITableViewDelegate {
    func scrollViewDidScroll(_ scrollView: UIScrollView) {
        activityIndicator.start {
            DispatchQueue.global(qos: .utility).async {
                sleep(3)
                DispatchQueue.main.async { [weak self] in
                    self?.activityIndicator.stop()
                }
            }
        }
    }
}

Full Sample

Do not forget to paste the solution code.

        tableView.delegate = self
        tableView.tableFooterView = UIView()
        activityIndicator = LoadMoreActivityIndicator(scrollView: tableView, spacingFromLastCell: 10, spacingFromLastCellWhenLoadMoreActionStart: 60)
    }
}

extension ViewController: UITableViewDataSource {

    func numberOfSections(in tableView: UITableView) -> Int {
        return 1
    }

    func tableView(_ tableView: UITableView, numberOfRowsInSection section: Int) -> Int {
        return 30
    }

    func tableView(_ tableView: UITableView, cellForRowAt indexPath: IndexPath) -> UITableViewCell {
        let cell = UITableViewCell()
        cell.textLabel?.text = "\(indexPath)"
        return cell
    }
}

extension ViewController: UITableViewDelegate {
    func scrollViewDidScroll(_ scrollView: UIScrollView) {
        activityIndicator.start {
            DispatchQueue.global(qos: .utility).async {
                for i in 0..<3 {
                    print("!!!!!!!!! \(i)")
                    sleep(1)
                }
                DispatchQueue.main.async { [weak self] in
                    self?.activityIndicator.stop()
                }

How should I have explained the difference between an Interface and an Abstract class?

In a few words, I would answer this way:

  • inheritance via class hierarchy implies a state inheritance;
  • whereas inheritance via interfaces stands for behavior inheritance;

Abstract classes can be treated as something between these two cases (it introduces some state but also obliges you to define a behavior), a fully-abstract class is an interface (this is a further development of classes consist from virtual methods only in C++ as far as I'm aware of its syntax).

Of course, starting from Java 8 things got slightly changed, but the idea is still the same.

I guess this is pretty enough for a typical Java interview, if you are not being interviewed to a compiler team.

What is String pool in Java?

This prints true (even though we don't use equals method: correct way to compare strings)

    String s = "a" + "bc";
    String t = "ab" + "c";
    System.out.println(s == t);

When compiler optimizes your string literals, it sees that both s and t have same value and thus you need only one string object. It's safe because String is immutable in Java.
As result, both s and t point to the same object and some little memory saved.

Name 'string pool' comes from the idea that all already defined string are stored in some 'pool' and before creating new String object compiler checks if such string is already defined.

How to test if a string is basically an integer in quotes using Ruby

I prefer:

config/initializers/string.rb

class String
  def number?
    Integer(self).is_a?(Integer)
  rescue ArgumentError, TypeError
    false
  end
end

and then:

[218] pry(main)> "123123123".number?
=> true
[220] pry(main)> "123 123 123".gsub(/ /, '').number?
=> true
[222] pry(main)> "123 123 123".number?
=> false

or check phone number:

"+34 123 456 789 2".gsub(/ /, '').number?

Pass parameter from a batch file to a PowerShell script

The answer from @Emiliano is excellent. You can also pass named parameters like so:

powershell.exe -Command 'G:\Karan\PowerShell_Scripts\START_DEV.ps1' -NamedParam1 "SomeDataA" -NamedParam2 "SomeData2"

Note the parameters are outside the command call, and you'll use:

[parameter(Mandatory=$false)]
  [string]$NamedParam1,
[parameter(Mandatory=$false)]
  [string]$NamedParam2

Vim multiline editing like in sublimetext?

Those are some good out-of-the box solutions given above, but we can also try some plugins which provide multiple cursors like Sublime.

I think this one looks promising:

It seemed abandoned for a while, but has had some contributions in 2014.

It is quite powerful, although it took me a little while to get used to the flow (which is quite Sublime-like but still modal like Vim).

In my experience if you have a lot of other plugins installed, you may meet some conflicts!

There are some others attempts at this feature:

Please feel free to edit if you notice any of these undergoing improvement.

PostgreSQL: Show tables in PostgreSQL

Using psql : \dt

Or:

SELECT c.relname AS Tables_in FROM pg_catalog.pg_class c
        LEFT JOIN pg_catalog.pg_namespace n ON n.oid = c.relnamespace
WHERE pg_catalog.pg_table_is_visible(c.oid)
        AND c.relkind = 'r'
        AND relname NOT LIKE 'pg_%'
ORDER BY 1

Difference between $(document.body) and $('body')

Outputwise both are equivalent. Though the second expression goes through a top down lookup from the DOM root. You might want to avoid the additional overhead (however minuscule it may be) if you already have document.body object in hand for JQuery to wrap over. How to configure nginx to enable kinda 'file browser' mode?

I've tried many times.

And at last I just put autoindex on; in http but outside of server, and it's OK.

Is there a NumPy function to return the first index of something in an array?

For 1D arrays, I'd recommend np.flatnonzero(array == value)[0], which is equivalent to both np.nonzero(array == value)[0][0] and np.where(array == value)[0][0] but avoids the ugliness of unboxing a 1-element tuple.

how to install Lex and Yacc in Ubuntu?

Use the synaptic packet manager in order to install yacc / lex. If you are feeling more comfortable doing this on the console just do:

sudo apt-get install bison flex

There are some very nice articles on the net on how to get started with those tools. I found the article from CodeProject to be quite good and helpful (see here). But you should just try and search for "introduction to lex", there are plenty of good articles showing up.

Split string with multiple delimiters in Python

This is how the regex look like:

import re
# "semicolon or (a comma followed by a space)"
pattern = re.compile(r";|, ")

# "(semicolon or a comma) followed by a space"
pattern = re.compile(r"[;,] ")

print pattern.split(text)

How to replace a string in multiple files in linux command line

I found this one from another post (can't remember which) and while not the most elegant, it's simple and as a novice Linux user has given me no trouble

for i in *old_str* ; do mv -v "$i" "${i/\old_str/new_str}" ; done

if you have spaces or other special characters use a \

for i in *old_str\ * ; do mv -v "$i" "${i/\old_str\ /new_str}" ; done

for strings in sub-directories use **

for i in *\*old_str\ * ; do mv -v "$i" "${i/\old_str\ /new_str}" ; done

How to redirect output of an already running process

You can also do it using reredirect (https://github.com/jerome-pouiller/reredirect/).

The command bellow redirects the outputs (standard and error) of the process PID to FILE:

reredirect -m FILE PID

The README of reredirect also explains other interesting features: how to restore the original state of the process, how to redirect to another command or to redirect only stdout or stderr.

The tool also provides relink, a script allowing to redirect the outputs to the current terminal:

relink PID
relink PID | grep usefull_content

(reredirect seems to have same features than Dupx described in another answer but, it does not depend on Gdb).

Is it possible to animate scrollTop with jQuery?

I was having issues where the animation was always starting from the top of the page after a page refresh in the other examples.

I fixed this by not animating the css directly but rather calling window.scrollTo(); on each step:

$({myScrollTop:window.pageYOffset}).animate({myScrollTop:300}, {
  duration: 600,
  easing: 'swing',
  step: function(val) {
    window.scrollTo(0, val);
  }
});

This also gets around the html vs body issue as it's using cross-browser JavaScript.

Have a look at http://james.padolsey.com/javascript/fun-with-jquerys-animate/ for more information on what you can do with jQuery's animate function.

How can you create pop up messages in a batch script?

This is very simple beacuse i have created a couple lines of code that will do this for you

So set a variable as msg and then use this code. it popup in a VBS message box.

CODE:

@echo off
echo %msg% >vbs.txt
copy vbs.txt vbs.vbs
del vbs.txt
start vbs.vbs
timeout /t 1
del vbs.vbs
cls

This is just something i came up with it should work for most of your message needs and it also works with Spaces unlike some batch scripts

Using routes in Express-js

So, after I created my question, I got this related list on the right with a similar issue: Organize routes in Node.js.

The answer in that post linked to the Express repo on GitHub and suggests to look at the 'route-separation' example.

This helped me change my code, and I now have it working. - Thanks for your comments.

My implementation ended up looking like this;

I require my routes in the app.js:

var express = require('express')
  , site = require('./site')
  , wiki = require('./wiki');

And I add my routes like this:

app.get('/', site.index);
app.get('/wiki/:id', wiki.show);
app.get('/wiki/:id/edit', wiki.edit);

I have two files called wiki.js and site.js in the root of my app, containing this:

exports.edit = function(req, res) {

    var wiki_entry = req.params.id;

    res.render('wiki/edit', {
        title: 'Editing Wiki',
        wiki: wiki_entry
    })
}

What is the opposite of :hover (on mouse leave)?

Just use CSS transitions instead of animations.

A {
    color: #999;
    transition: color 1s ease-in-out;
}

A:hover {
    color: #000;
}

Live demo

Add multiple items to a list

Thanks to AddRange:

Example:

public class Person
{
    private string Name;
    private string FirstName;

    public Person(string name, string firstname) => (Name, FirstName) = (name, firstname);
}

To add multiple Person to a List<>:

List<Person> listofPersons = new List<Person>();
listofPersons.AddRange(new List<Person>
{
    new Person("John1", "Doe" ),
    new Person("John2", "Doe" ),
    new Person("John3", "Doe" ),
 });

Export to CSV via PHP

I personally use this function to create CSV content from any array.

function array2csv(array &$array)
{
   if (count($array) == 0) {
     return null;
   }
   ob_start();
   $df = fopen("php://output", 'w');
   fputcsv($df, array_keys(reset($array)));
   foreach ($array as $row) {
      fputcsv($df, $row);
   }
   fclose($df);
   return ob_get_clean();
}

Then you can make your user download that file using something like:

function download_send_headers($filename) {
    // disable caching
    $now = gmdate("D, d M Y H:i:s");
    header("Expires: Tue, 03 Jul 2001 06:00:00 GMT");
    header("Cache-Control: max-age=0, no-cache, must-revalidate, proxy-revalidate");
    header("Last-Modified: {$now} GMT");

    // force download
    header("Content-Type: application/force-download");
    header("Content-Type: application/octet-stream");
    header("Content-Type: application/download");

    // disposition / encoding on response body
    header("Content-Disposition: attachment;filename={$filename}");
    header("Content-Transfer-Encoding: binary");
}

Usage example:

download_send_headers("data_export_" . date("Y-m-d") . ".csv");
echo array2csv($array);
die();

Correct use of flush() in JPA/Hibernate

Probably the exact details of em.flush() are implementation-dependent. In general anyway, JPA providers like Hibernate can cache the SQL instructions they are supposed to send to the database, often until you actually commit the transaction. For example, you call em.persist(), Hibernate remembers it has to make a database INSERT, but does not actually execute the instruction until you commit the transaction. Afaik, this is mainly done for performance reasons.

In some cases anyway you want the SQL instructions to be executed immediately; generally when you need the result of some side effects, like an autogenerated key, or a database trigger.

What em.flush() does is to empty the internal SQL instructions cache, and execute it immediately to the database.

Bottom line: no harm is done, only you could have a (minor) performance hit since you are overriding the JPA provider decisions as regards the best timing to send SQL instructions to the database.

vertical & horizontal lines in matplotlib

This may be a common problem for new users of Matplotlib to draw vertical and horizontal lines. In order to understand this problem, you should be aware that different coordinate systems exist in Matplotlib.

The method axhline and axvline are used to draw lines at the axes coordinate. In this coordinate system, coordinate for the bottom left point is (0,0), while the coordinate for the top right point is (1,1), regardless of the data range of your plot. Both the parameter xmin and xmax are in the range [0,1].

On the other hand, method hlines and vlines are used to draw lines at the data coordinate. The range for xmin and xmax are the in the range of data limit of x axis.

Let's take a concrete example,

import matplotlib.pyplot as plt
import numpy as np

x = np.linspace(0, 5, 100)
y = np.sin(x)

fig, ax = plt.subplots()

ax.plot(x, y)
ax.axhline(y=0.5, xmin=0.0, xmax=1.0, color='r')
ax.hlines(y=0.6, xmin=0.0, xmax=1.0, color='b')

plt.show()

It will produce the following plot: enter image description here

The value for xmin and xmax are the same for the axhline and hlines method. But the length of produced line is different.

How to reset AUTO_INCREMENT in MySQL?

I googled and found this question, but the answer I am really looking for fulfils two criteria:

  1. using purely MySQL queries
  2. reset an existing table auto-increment to max(id) + 1

Since I couldn't find exactly what I want here, I have cobbled the answer from various answers and sharing it here.

Few things to note:

  1. the table in question is InnoDB
  2. the table uses the field id with type as int as primary key
  3. the only way to do this purely in MySQL is to use stored procedure
  4. my images below are using SequelPro as the GUI. You should be able to adapt it based on your preferred MySQL editor
  5. I have tested this on MySQL Ver 14.14 Distrib 5.5.61, for debian-linux-gnu

Step 1: Create Stored Procedure

create a stored procedure like this:

DELIMITER //
CREATE PROCEDURE reset_autoincrement(IN tablename varchar(200))
BEGIN

      SET @get_next_inc = CONCAT('SELECT @next_inc := max(id) + 1 FROM ',tablename,';');
      PREPARE stmt FROM @get_next_inc;
      EXECUTE stmt;
      SELECT @next_inc AS result;
      DEALLOCATE PREPARE stmt;

      set @alter_statement = concat('ALTER TABLE ', tablename, ' AUTO_INCREMENT = ', @next_inc, ';');
      PREPARE stmt FROM @alter_statement;
      EXECUTE stmt;
      DEALLOCATE PREPARE stmt;
END //
DELIMITER ;

Then run it.

Before run, it looks like this when you look under Stored Procedures in your database.

enter image description here

When I run, I simply select the stored procedure and press Run Selection

enter image description here

Note: the delimiters part are crucial. Hence if you copy and paste from the top selected answers in this question, they tend not to work for this reason.

After I run, I should see the stored procedure

enter image description here

If you need to change the stored procedure, you need to delete the stored procedure, then select to run again.

Step 2: Call the stored procedure

This time you can simply use normal MySQL queries.

call reset_autoincrement('products');

Originally from my own SQL queries notes in https://simkimsia.com/library/sql-queries/#mysql-reset-autoinc and adapted for StackOverflow

Where to place JavaScript in an HTML file?

Putting the javascript at the top would seem neater, but functionally, its better to go after the HTML. That way, your javascript won't run and try to reference HTML elements before they are loaded. This sort of problem often only becomes apparent when you load the page over an actual internet connection, especially a slow one.

You could also try to dynamically load the javascript by adding a header element from other javascript code, although that only makes sense if you aren't using all of the code all the time.

Eclipse copy/paste entire line keyboard shortcut

If you want to copy a line to the clipboard you can also use the trick:

Ctrl-Alt-Down followed by Ctrl-X

The drawback is that the file where you copy the line from becomes dirty.

Is it possible to forward-declare a function in Python?

If you kick-start your script through the following:

if __name__=="__main__":
   main()

then you probably do not have to worry about things like "forward declaration". You see, the interpreter would go loading up all your functions and then start your main() function. Of course, make sure you have all the imports correct too ;-)

Come to think of it, I've never heard such a thing as "forward declaration" in python... but then again, I might be wrong ;-)

How to load a UIView using a nib file created with Interface Builder

This is something that ought to be easier. I ended up extending UIViewController and adding a loadNib:inPlaceholder: selector. Now I can say

self.mySubview = (MyView *)[self loadNib:@"MyView" inPlaceholder:mySubview];

Here's the code for the category (it does the same rigamarole as described by Gonso):

@interface UIViewController (nibSubviews)

- (UIView *)viewFromNib:(NSString *)nibName;
- (UIView *)loadNib:(NSString *)nibName inPlaceholder:(UIView *)placeholder;

@end

@implementation UIViewController (nibSubviews)

- (UIView *)viewFromNib:(NSString *)nibName
{
  NSArray *xib = [[NSBundle mainBundle] loadNibNamed:nibName owner:self options:nil];
  for (id view in xib) { // have to iterate; index varies
    if ([view isKindOfClass:[UIView class]]) return view;
  }
  return nil;
}

- (UIView *)loadNib:(NSString *)nibName inPlaceholder:(UIView *)placeholder
{
  UIView *nibView = [self viewFromNib:nibName];
  [nibView setFrame:placeholder.frame];
  [self.view insertSubview:nibView aboveSubview:placeholder];
  [placeholder removeFromSuperview];
  return nibView;
}

@end

Postgresql GROUP_CONCAT equivalent?

This is probably a good starting point (version 8.4+ only):

SELECT id_field, array_agg(value_field1), array_agg(value_field2)
FROM data_table
GROUP BY id_field

array_agg returns an array, but you can CAST that to text and edit as needed (see clarifications, below).

Prior to version 8.4, you have to define it yourself prior to use:

CREATE AGGREGATE array_agg (anyelement)
(
    sfunc = array_append,
    stype = anyarray,
    initcond = '{}'
);

(paraphrased from the PostgreSQL documentation)

Clarifications:

  • The result of casting an array to text is that the resulting string starts and ends with curly braces. Those braces need to be removed by some method, if they are not desired.
  • Casting ANYARRAY to TEXT best simulates CSV output as elements that contain embedded commas are double-quoted in the output in standard CSV style. Neither array_to_string() or string_agg() (the "group_concat" function added in 9.1) quote strings with embedded commas, resulting in an incorrect number of elements in the resulting list.
  • The new 9.1 string_agg() function does NOT cast the inner results to TEXT first. So "string_agg(value_field)" would generate an error if value_field is an integer. "string_agg(value_field::text)" would be required. The array_agg() method requires only one cast after the aggregation (rather than a cast per value).

Is there a function to copy an array in C/C++?

I like the answer of Ed S., but this only works for fixed size arrays and not when the arrays are defined as pointers.

So, the C++ solution where the arrays are defined as pointers:

#include<algorithm>
...
const int bufferSize = 10;
char* origArray, newArray;
std::copy(origArray, origArray + bufferSize, newArray);

Note: No need to deduct buffersize with 1:

  1. Copies all elements in the range [first, last) starting from first and proceeding to last - 1

javax.net.ssl.SSLException: Received fatal alert: protocol_version

@marioosh added some extra information regarding cipher suite encryption .

A cipher suite is a collection of symmetric and asymmetric encryption algorithms used by hosts to establish a secure communication in Transport Layer Security (TLS) / Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) network protocol.
Ciphers are algorithms, more specifically they’re a set of steps for both performing encryption as well as the corresponding decryption.

A cipher suite specifies one algorithm for each of the following tasks:

  • Key exchange
  • Bulk encryption
  • Message authentication

SocketFactory « Default handshaking protocols « To avoid SSLException use https.protocols system property.
This contains a comma-separated list of protocol suite names specifying which protocol suites to enable on this HttpsURLConnection. See the SSLSocket.setEnabledProtocols(String[]) method.

How to split a string, but also keep the delimiters?

If you want keep character then use split method with loophole in .split() method.

See this example:

public class SplitExample {

    public static void main(String[] args) {
        String str = "Javathomettt";
        System.out.println("method 1");
        System.out.println("Returning words:");
        String[] arr = str.split("t", 40);
        for (String w : arr) {
            System.out.println(w+"t");
        }
        System.out.println("Split array length: "+arr.length);
        System.out.println("method 2");
        System.out.println(str.replaceAll("t", "\n"+"t"));
    }

Check for special characters (/*-+_@&$#%) in a string?

A great way using C# and Linq here:

public static bool HasSpecialCharacter(this string s)
{
    foreach (var c in s)
    {
        if(!char.IsLetterOrDigit(c))
        {
            return true;
        }
    }
    return false;
 }

And access it like this:

myString.HasSpecialCharacter();

How can I clear console

Use System::Console::Clear();

This will clear (empty) the buffer

I think you can use eval. Something like this

    return eval(strcls)()

How to use a dot "." to access members of dictionary?

Building on Kugel's answer and taking Mike Graham's words of caution into consideration, what if we make a wrapper?

class DictWrap(object):

    notation or key lookup.

    The attribute _data is reserved and stores the underlying dictionary.

    replaced with the operand, effectively creating a default dictionary
    of mixed types.

    args:
      d({}): Existing dict to wrap, an empty dict is created by default
      create(True): Create an empty, nested dict instead of raising a KeyError

    example:
      >>>dw = DictWrap({'pp':3})
      >>>dw.a.b += 2
      >>>dw.a.b += 2
      >>>dw.a['c'] += 'Hello'
      >>>dw.a['c'] += ' World'
      >>>dw.a.d
      >>>print dw._data
      {'a': {'c': 'Hello World', 'b': 4, 'd': {}}, 'pp': 3}

How do I request and process JSON with python?

For anything with requests to URLs you might want to check out requests. For JSON in particular:

>>> import requests

HttpServlet cannot be resolved to a type .... is this a bug in eclipse?

I faced the same problem in eclipse with tomcat7 with the error javax.servlet cannot be resolved. If I select the server in targeted runtime mode and build project again, the error get's resolved.

Callback when DOM is loaded in react.js

You can watch your container element using the useRef hook. Note that you need to watch the ref's current value specifically, otherwise it won't work.

Example:

  const containerRef = useRef();
  const { current } = containerRef;

  useEffect(setLinksData, [current]);

return (
    <div ref={containerRef}>
      // your child elements...
    </div>
)

align images side by side in html

Here is how I would do it, (however I would use an external style sheet for this project and all others. just makes things easier to work with. Also this example is with html5.

<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
<meta charset="utf-8">
<title></title>
<style>
  .container {
      display:inline-block;
  }
</style>
</head>
<body>

  <div class="container">
    <figure>
    <img src="http://placehold.it/350x150" height="200" width="200">
    <figcaption>This is image 1</figcaption>
    </figure>

    <figure>
    <img class="middle-img" src="http://placehold.it/350x150"/ height="200" width="200">

Hibernate Criteria Query to get specific columns

You can map another entity based on this class (you should use entity-name in order to distinct the two) and the second one will be kind of dto (dont forget that dto has design issues ). you should define the second one as readonly and give it a good name in order to be clear that this is not a regular entity. by the way select only few columns is called projection , so google with it will be easier.

alternative - you can create named query with the list of fields that you need (you put them in the select ) or use criteria with projection

How to delete a workspace in Eclipse?

I'm not sure about older versions, but from NEON onward, you can just right click on workspace and select Remove from launcher selection option.

Eclipse Neon - Remove Workspace

of course this won't remove the original files. It simply removes it from the list of suggested workspaces.

Best way to make WPF ListView/GridView sort on column-header clicking?

If you have a listview and turn it into a gridview you can easily make your gridview columns headers clickable by doing this.

        <Style TargetType="GridViewColumnHeader">
            <Setter Property="Command" Value="{Binding CommandOrderBy}"/>
            <Setter Property="CommandParameter" Value="{Binding RelativeSource={RelativeSource Self},Path=Content}"/>
        </Style>

Then just set a delegate command in your code.

    public DelegateCommand CommandOrderBy { get { return new DelegateCommand(Delegated_CommandOrderBy); } }

    private void Delegated_CommandOrderBy(object obj)
    {
        throw new NotImplementedException();
    }

Im going to assume you all know how to make the ICommand DelegateCommand here. this allowed me to keep all my View clicking in the ViewModel.

I only added this so that there is multiple ways to accomplish the same thing. I did not write code for adding arrow buttons in the header, but that would be done in XAML style, you would need to redesign the entire header which JanDotNet has in their code.

How to check if a row exists in MySQL? (i.e. check if an email exists in MySQL)

The following are tried, tested and proven methods to check if a row exists.

(Some of which I use myself, or have used in the past).

Edit: I made an previous error in my syntax where I used mysqli_query() twice. Please consult the revision(s).

I.e.:

if (!mysqli_query($con,$query)) which should have simply read as if (!$query).

  • I apologize for overlooking that mistake.

Side note: Both '".$var."' and '$var' do the same thing. You can use either one, both are valid syntax.

Here are the two edited queries:

$query = mysqli_query($con, "SELECT * FROM emails WHERE email='".$email."'");

    if (!$query)
    {
        die('Error: ' . mysqli_error($con));
    }

if(mysqli_num_rows($query) > 0){

    echo "email already exists";

}else{

    // do something

}

and in your case:

$query = mysqli_query($dbl, "SELECT * FROM `tblUser` WHERE email='".$email."'");

    if (!$query)
    {
        die('Error: ' . mysqli_error($dbl));
    }

if(mysqli_num_rows($query) > 0){

    echo "email already exists";

}else{

    // do something

}

You can also use mysqli_ with a prepared statement method:

$query = "SELECT `email` FROM `tblUser` WHERE email=?";

if ($stmt = $dbl->prepare($query)){

        $stmt->bind_param("s", $email);

        if($stmt->execute()){
            $stmt->store_result();

            $email_check= "";
            $stmt->bind_result($email_check);
            $stmt->fetch();

            if ($stmt->num_rows == 1){

            echo "That Email already exists.";
            exit;

            }
        }
    }

Or a PDO method with a prepared statement:

<?php
$email = $_POST['email'];

$mysql_hostname = 'xxx';
$mysql_username = 'xxx';
$mysql_password = 'xxx';
$mysql_dbname = 'xxx';

try {
$conn= new PDO("mysql:host=$mysql_hostname;dbname=$mysql_dbname", $mysql_username, $mysql_password);
     $conn->setAttribute(PDO::ATTR_ERRMODE, PDO::ERRMODE_EXCEPTION);
} catch (PDOException $e) {
     exit( $e->getMessage() );
}

// assuming a named submit button
if(isset($_POST['submit']))
    {

        try {
            $stmt = $conn->prepare('SELECT `email` FROM `tblUser` WHERE email = ?');
            $stmt->bindParam(1, $_POST['email']);
            $stmt->execute();
            while($row = $stmt->fetch(PDO::FETCH_ASSOC)) {

            }
        }
        catch(PDOException $e) {
            echo 'ERROR: ' . $e->getMessage();
        }

    if($stmt->rowCount() > 0){
        echo "The record exists!";
    } else {
        echo "The record is non-existant.";
    }

    }
?>
  • Prepared statements are best to be used to help protect against an SQL injection.

N.B.:

When dealing with forms and POST arrays as used/outlined above, make sure that the POST arrays contain values, that a POST method is used for the form and matching named attributes for the inputs.

  • FYI: Forms default to a GET method if not explicity instructed.

Note: <input type = "text" name = "var"> - $_POST['var'] match. $_POST['Var'] no match.

  • POST arrays are case-sensitive.

Please note that MySQL APIs do not intermix, in case you may be visiting this Q&A and you're using mysql_ to connect with (and querying with).

  • You must use the same one from connecting to querying.

Consult the following about this:

If you are using the mysql_ API and have no choice to work with it, then consult the following Q&A on Stack:

The mysql_* functions are deprecated and will be removed from future PHP releases.

  • It's time to step into the 21st century.

You can also add a UNIQUE constraint to (a) row(s).

For future reference, this can also happen if npm is down. That's how I found this question. Wish the first npm task was a server status check so there was a clearer error message.

Write and read a list from file

If you don't need it to be human-readable/editable, the easiest solution is to just use pickle.

To write:

with open(the_filename, 'wb') as f:
    pickle.dump(my_list, f)

To read:

with open(the_filename, 'rb') as f:
    my_list = pickle.load(f)

If you do need them to be human-readable, we need more information.

If my_list is guaranteed to be a list of strings with no embedded newlines, just write them one per line:

with open(the_filename, 'w') as f:
    for s in my_list:
        f.write(s + '\n')

with open(the_filename, 'r') as f:
    my_list = [line.rstrip('\n') for line in f]

If they're Unicode strings rather than byte strings, you'll want to encode them. (Or, worse, if they're byte strings, but not necessarily in the same encoding as your system default.)

If they might have newlines, or non-printable characters, etc., you can use escaping or quoting. Python has a variety of different kinds of escaping built into the stdlib.

Let's use unicode-escape here to solve both of the above problems at once:

with open(the_filename, 'w') as f:
    for s in my_list:
        f.write((s + u'\n').encode('unicode-escape'))

with open(the_filename, 'r') as f:
    my_list = [line.decode('unicode-escape').rstrip(u'\n') for line in f]

You can also use the 3.x-style solution in 2.x, with either the codecs module or the io module:*

import io

with io.open(the_filename, 'w', encoding='unicode-escape') as f:
    f.writelines(line + u'\n' for line in my_list)

with open(the_filename, 'r') as f:
    my_list = [line.rstrip(u'\n') for line in f]

* TOOWTDI, so which is the one obvious way? It depends… For the short version: if you need to work with Python versions before 2.6, use codecs; if not, use io.

How do I list all files of a directory?

I prefer using the glob module, as it does pattern matching and expansion.

import glob
print(glob.glob("/home/adam/*.txt"))

It will return a list with the queried files:

['/home/adam/file1.txt', '/home/adam/file2.txt', .... ]

What are .dex files in Android?

.dex file

Compiled Android application code file.

Android programs are compiled into .dex (Dalvik Executable) files, which are in turn zipped into a single .apk file on the device. .dex files can be created automatically by Android, by translating the compiled applications written in the Java programming language.

How to set "value" to input web element using selenium?

As Shubham Jain stated, this is working to me: driver.findElement(By.id("invoice_supplier_id")).sendKeys("value"??, "new value");

How to use global variables in React Native?

Set up a flux container

simple example

import alt from './../../alt.js';

    class PostActions {
        constructor(){
        this.generateActions('setMessages');
        }

        setMessages(indexArray){
            this.actions.setMessages(indexArray);
        }
    }

export default alt.createActions(PostActions);

store looks like this

class PostStore{

    constructor(){

       this.messages = [];

       this.bindActions(MessageActions);
    }

    setMessages(messages){
        this.messages = messages;
    }
}

export default alt.createStore(PostStore);

Then every component that listens to the store can share this variable In your constructor is where you should grab it

constructor(props){
    super(props);

   //here is your data you get from the store, do what you want with it
    var messageStore = MessageStore.getState();

}

    componentDidMount() {
      MessageStore.listen(this.onMessageChange.bind(this));
    }

    componentWillUnmount() {
      MessageStore.unlisten(this.onMessageChange.bind(this));
    }

    onMessageChange(state){
        //if the data ever changes each component listining will be notified and can do the proper processing.
   }

This way, you can share you data across the app without every component having to communicate with each other.

How to run a program in Atom Editor?

If you know how to launch your program from the command line then you can run it from the platformio-ide-terminal package's terminal. See platformio-ide-terminal provides an embedded terminal within the Atom text editor. So you can issue commands, including commands to run your Java program, from within it. To install this package you can use APM with the command:

$ apm install platformio-ide-terminal --no-confirm

Alternatively, you can install it from the command palette with:

  • Pressing Ctrl+Shift+P. I am assuming this is the appropriate keyboard shortcut for your platform, as you have dealt ith questions about Ubuntu in the past.
  • Type Install Packages and Themes.
  • Search for the platformio-ide-terminal.
  • Install it.

How to get datetime in JavaScript?

@Shadow Wizard's code should return 02:45 PM instead of 14:45 PM. So I modified his code a bit:

function getNowDateTimeStr(){
 var now = new Date();
 var hour = now.getHours() - (now.getHours() >= 12 ? 12 : 0);
return [[AddZero(now.getDate()), AddZero(now.getMonth() + 1), now.getFullYear()].join("/"), [AddZero(hour), AddZero(now.getMinutes())].join(":"), now.getHours() >= 12 ? "PM" : "AM"].join(" ");
}

//Pad given value to the left with "0"
function AddZero(num) {
    return (num >= 0 && num < 10) ? "0" + num : num + "";
}

Installing Python packages from local file system folder to virtualenv with pip

I've been trying to achieve something really simple and failed miserably, probably I'm stupid.

Anyway, if you have a script/Dockerfile which download a python package zip file (e.g. from GitHub) and you then want to install it you can use the file:/// prefix to install it as shown in the following example:

$ wget https://example.com/mypackage.zip
$ echo "${MYPACKAGE_MD5}  mypackage.zip" | md5sum --check -
$ pip install file:///.mypackage.zip

NOTE: I know you could install the package straight away using pip install https://example.com/mypackage.zip but in my case I wanted to verify the checksum (never paranoid enough) and I failed miserably when trying to use the various options that pip provides/the #md5 fragment.

It's been surprisingly frustrating to do something so simple directly with pip. I just wanted to pass a checksum and have pip verify that the zip was matching before installing it.

I was probably doing something very stupid but in the end I gave up and opted for this. I hope it helps others trying to do something similar.

Scrollview vertical and horizontal in android

Since this seems to be the first search result in Google for "Android vertical+horizontal ScrollView", I thought I should add this here. Matt Clark has built a custom view based on the Android source, and it seems to work perfectly: Two Dimensional ScrollView

Beware that the class in that page has a bug calculating the view's horizonal width. A fix by Manuel Hilty is in the comments:

Solution: Replace the statement on line 808 by the following:

final int childWidthMeasureSpec = MeasureSpec.makeMeasureSpec(lp.leftMargin + lp.rightMargin, MeasureSpec.UNSPECIFIED);

Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' while attempting to grant privileges. How do I grant privileges?

Notice how the output of

GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES will fail, because a user can not grant what he/she does not have, and the server seem to think something is not here ...

There are also new tables in 5.5, such as mysql.proxies_user: make sure you have them.

When installing a brand new mysql server instance, the install script will create all the mysql.* tables with the proper structure.

When upgrading from an old version, make sure the proper upgrade procedure (mysql_upgrade) is used, which will add the missing tables / columns.

It is only a guess, but it seems mysql_upgrade was not done for this instance, causing the behavior seen.

Returning a value from thread?

ThreadStart delegates in C# used to start threads have return type 'void'.

If you wish to get a 'return value' from a thread, you should write to a shared location (in an appropriate thread-safe manner) and read from that when the thread has completed executing.

How to replace a string in a SQL Server Table Column

I tried the above but it did not yield the correct result. The following one does:

Converting an integer to a string in PHP

As the answers here demonstrates nicely, yes, there are several ways. However, in PHP you rarely actually need to do that. The "dogmatic way" to write PHP is to rely on the language's loose typing system, which will transparently coerce the type as needed. For integer values, this is usually without trouble. You should be very careful with floating point values, though.

Get the first key name of a JavaScript object

I use Lodash for defensive coding reasons.

In particular, there are cases where I do not know if there will or will not be any properties in the object I'm trying to get the key for.

A "fully defensive" approach with Lodash would use both keys as well as get:

const firstKey = _.get(_.keys(ahash), 0);

Better way of getting time in milliseconds in javascript?

This is a very old question - but still for reference if others are looking at it - requestAnimationFrame() is the right way to handle animation in modern browsers:

How to loop through key/value object in Javascript?

Beware of properties inherited from the object's prototype (which could happen if you're including any libraries on your page, such as older versions of Prototype). You can check for this by using the object's hasOwnProperty() method. This is generally a good idea when using for...in loops:

var user = {};

function setUsers(data) {
    for (var k in data) {
        if (data.hasOwnProperty(k)) {
           user[k] = data[k];
        }
    }
}

What is the best way to dump entire objects to a log in C#?

All of the paths above assume that your objects are serializable to XML or JSON,
or you must implement your own solution.

But in the end you still get to the point where you have to solve problems like

  • recursion in objects
  • non-serializable objects
  • exceptions
  • ...

Plus log you want more information:

  • when the event happened
  • callstack
  • which threead
  • what was in the web session
  • which ip address
  • url
  • ...

There is the best solution that solves all of this and much more.
Use this Nuget package: Desharp.
For all types of applications - both web and desktop applications.
See it's Desharp Github documentation. It has many configuration options.

Just call anywhere:

Desharp.Debug.Log(anyException);
Desharp.Debug.Log(anyCustomValueObject);
Desharp.Debug.Log(anyNonserializableObject);
Desharp.Debug.Log(anyFunc);
Desharp.Debug.Log(anyFunc, Desharp.Level.EMERGENCY); // you can store into different files
  • it can save the log in nice HTML (or in TEXT format, configurable)
  • it's possible to write optionally in background thread (configurable)
  • it has options for max objects depth and max strings length (configurable)
  • it uses loops for iteratable objects and backward reflection for everything else,
    indeed for anything you can find in .NET environment.

I believe it will help.

Calling a class method raises a TypeError in Python

From your example, it seems to me you want to use a static method.

class mystuff:
  @staticmethod
  def average(a,b,c): #get the average of three numbers
    result=a+b+c
    result=result/3
    return result

print mystuff.average(9,18,27)

Please note that an heavy usage of static methods in python is usually a symptom of some bad smell - if you really need functions, then declare them directly on module level.

log4j vs logback

Your decision should be based on

  • your actual need for these "more features"; and
  • your expected cost of implementing the change.

You should resist the urge to change APIs just because it's "newer, shinier, better." I follow a policy of "if it's not broken, don't kick it."

If your application requires a very sophisticated logging framework, you may want to consider why.

Allow 2 decimal places in <input type="number">

I found using jQuery was my best solution.

How to export datagridview to excel using vb.net?

In design mode: Set DataGridView1 ClipboardCopyMode properties to EnableAlwaysIncludeHeaderText

or on the program code

DataGridView1.ClipboardCopyMode = DataGridViewClipboardCopyMode.EnableAlwaysIncludeHeaderText

In the run time select all cells content (Ctrl+A) and copy (Ctrl+C) and paste to the Excel Program. Let the Excel do the rest

Sorry for the inconvenient, I have been searching the method to print data directly from the datagridvew (create report from vb.net VB2012) and have not found the satisfaction result. Above code just my though, wondering if my applications user can rely on above simple step it will be nice and I could go ahead to next step on my program progress.

How to Load RSA Private Key From File

You need to convert your private key to PKCS8 format using following command:

openssl pkcs8 -topk8 -inform PEM -outform DER -in private_key_file  -nocrypt > pkcs8_key

After this your java program can read it.

MySQL SELECT x FROM a WHERE NOT IN ( SELECT x FROM b ) - Unexpected result

From documentation:

To comply with the SQL standard, IN returns NULL not only if the expression on the left hand side is NULL, but also if no match is found in the list and one of the expressions in the list is NULL.

This is exactly your case.

Both IN and NOT IN return NULL which is not an acceptable condition for WHERE clause.

Rewrite your query as follows:

SELECT  *
FROM    match m
WHERE   NOT EXISTS
        (
        SELECT  1
        FROM    email e
        WHERE   e.id = m.id

Git's famous "ERROR: Permission to .git denied to user"

I had the same problem as you. After a long time spent Googling, I found out my error was caused by multiple users that had added the same key in their accounts.

So, here is my solution: delete the wrong-user's ssh-key (I can do it because the wrong-user is also my account). If the wrong-user isn't your account, you may need to change your ssh-key, but I don't think this gonna happen.

And I think your problem may be caused by a mistyping error in your accounts name.

How to make Java Set?

Like this:

import java.util.*;
Set<Integer> a = new HashSet<Integer>();
a.add( 1);
a.add( 2);
a.add( 3);

Or adding from an Array/ or multiple literals; wrap to a list, first.

Integer[] array = new Integer[]{ 1, 4, 5};
Set<Integer> b = new HashSet<Integer>();
b.addAll( Arrays.asList( b));         // from an array variable
b.addAll( Arrays.asList( 8, 9, 10));  // from literals

To get the intersection:

// copies all from A; then removes those not in B.
Set<Integer> r = new HashSet( a);
r.retainAll( b);
// and print;   r.toString() implied.
System.out.println("A intersect B="+r);

Hope this answer helps. Vote for it!

In Python, when to use a Dictionary, List or Set?

In combination with lists, dicts and sets, there are also another interesting python objects, OrderedDicts.

Ordered dictionaries are just like regular dictionaries but they remember the order that items were inserted. When iterating over an ordered dictionary, the items are returned in the order their keys were first added.

OrderedDicts could be useful when you need to preserve the order of the keys, for example working with documents: It's common to need the vector representation of all terms in a document. So using OrderedDicts you can efficiently verify if a term has been read before, add terms, extract terms, and after all the manipulations you can extract the ordered vector representation of them.

How do I initialize Kotlin's MutableList to empty MutableList?

You can simply write:

val mutableList = mutableListOf<Kolory>()

This is the most idiomatic way.

Alternative ways are

val mutableList : MutableList<Kolory> = arrayListOf()

or

val mutableList : MutableList<Kolory> = ArrayList()

This is exploiting the fact that java types like ArrayList are implicitly implementing the type MutableList via a compiler trick.

Reportviewer tool missing in visual studio 2017 RC

Download Microsoft Rdlc Report Designer for Visual Studio from this link. https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName=ProBITools.MicrosoftRdlcReportDesignerforVisualStudio-18001

Microsoft explain the steps in details:

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sql/reporting-services/application-integration/integrating-reporting-services-using-reportviewer-controls-get-started?view=sql-server-2017

The following steps summarizes the above article.

Adding the Report Viewer control to a new web project:

  1. Create a new ASP.NET Empty Web Site or open an existing ASP.NET project.

  2. Install the Report Viewer control NuGet package via the NuGet package manager console. From Visual Studio -> Tools -> NuGet Package Manager -> Package Manager Console

    Install-Package Microsoft.ReportingServices.ReportViewerControl.WebForms

  3. Add a new .aspx page to the project and register the Report Viewer control assembly for use within the page.

    <%@ Register assembly="Microsoft.ReportViewer.WebForms, Version=15.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=89845dcd8080cc91" namespace="Microsoft.Reporting.WebForms" tagprefix="rsweb" %>

  4. Add a ScriptManagerControl to the page.

  5. Add the Report Viewer control to the page. The snippet below can be updated to reference a report hosted on a remote report server.

     <rsweb:ReportViewer ID="ReportViewer1" runat="server" ProcessingMode="Remote">
     <ServerReport ReportPath="" ReportServerUrl="" /></rsweb:ReportViewer>

The final page should look like the following.

<%@ Page Language="C#" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeBehind="WebForm1.aspx.cs" Inherits="Sample" %>

<%@ Register assembly="Microsoft.ReportViewer.WebForms, Version=15.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=89845dcd8080cc91" namespace="Microsoft.Reporting.WebForms" tagprefix="rsweb" %>

<!DOCTYPE html>

<html xmlns="https://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
<head runat="server">
    <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=edge" />
    <title></title>
</head>
<body>
    <form id="form1" runat="server">
    <asp:ScriptManager runat="server"></asp:ScriptManager>
       <rsweb:ReportViewer ID="ReportViewer1" runat="server" ProcessingMode="Remote">
           <ServerReport ReportServerUrl="https://AContosoDepartment/ReportServer" ReportPath="/LatestSales" />
    </rsweb:ReportViewer>
    </form>
</body>

Mocking Extension Methods with Moq

I have used a Wrapper to get around this problem. Create a wrapper object and pass your mocked method.

See Mocking Static Methods for Unit Testing by Paul Irwin, it has nice examples.

Converting PKCS#12 certificate into PEM using OpenSSL

I had a PFX file and needed to create KEY file for NGINX, so I did this:

openssl pkcs12 -in file.pfx -out file.key -nocerts -nodes

Then I had to edit the KEY file and remove all content up to -----BEGIN PRIVATE KEY-----. After that NGINX accepted the KEY file.

Datatable vs Dataset

in 1.x there used to be things DataTables couldn't do which DataSets could (don't remember exactly what). All that was changed in 2.x. My guess is that's why a lot of examples still use DataSets. DataTables should be quicker as they are more lightweight. If you're only pulling a single resultset, its your best choice between the two.

Local and global temporary tables in SQL Server

Local temporary tables: if you create local temporary tables and then open another connection and try the query , you will get the following error.

the temporary tables are only accessible within the session that created them.

Global temporary tables: Sometimes, you may want to create a temporary table that is accessible other connections. In this case, you can use global temporary tables.

Global temporary tables are only destroyed when all the sessions referring to it are closed.

How to post data using HttpClient?

You need to use:

await client.PostAsync(uri, content);

Something like that:

var comment = "hello world";
var questionId = 1;

var formContent = new FormUrlEncodedContent(new[]
{
    new KeyValuePair<string, string>("comment", comment),
    new KeyValuePair<string, string>("questionId", questionId)
});

var myHttpClient = new HttpClient();
var response = await myHttpClient.PostAsync(uri.ToString(), formContent);

And if you need to get the response after post, you should use:

var stringContent = await response.Content.ReadAsStringAsync();

Hope it helps ;)

iOS Remote Debugging

Many remote consoles work fine. http://farjs.com is my project, and I was able to successfully debug issues specific to Crome iOS and not happening in safari using it. (and probably all other mobile browsers)

The problem is that injecting the debugging code is slightly tricky since Chrome doesn't allow you to install bookmarklets.

Instead you could open one tab on the page that you would debug, and another on farjs.com and then click "the bookmarklet"

Copy the bookmarklet JS code, get back to the first tab, with the page that should be debugged, and paste the bookmarklet code in the location bar.

Last step is to scroll to the beginning of the location bar and add "javascript:", since Chrome will remove it.

What is the best workaround for the WCF client `using` block issue?

I have my own wrapper for a channel which implements Dispose as follows:

public void Dispose()
{
        try
        {
            if (channel.State == CommunicationState.Faulted)
            {
                channel.Abort();
            }
            else
            {
                channel.Close();
            }
        }
        catch (CommunicationException)
        {
            channel.Abort();
        }
        catch (TimeoutException)
        {
            channel.Abort();
        }
        catch (Exception)
        {
            channel.Abort();
            throw;
        }
}

This seems to work well and allows a using block to be used.

Maven: How do I activate a profile from command line?

Both commands are correct :

mvn clean install -Pdev1
mvn clean install -P dev1

The problem is most likely not profile activation, but the profile not accomplishing what you expect it to.

It is normal that the command :

mvn help:active-profiles

does not display the profile, because is does not contain -Pdev1. You could add it to make the profile appear, but it would be pointless because you would be testing maven itself.

What you should do is check the profile behavior by doing the following :

  1. set activeByDefault to true in the profile configuration,
  2. run mvn help:active-profiles (to make sure it is effectively activated even without -Pdev1),
  3. run mvn install.

It should give the same results as before, and therefore confirm that the problem is the profile not doing what you expect.

Javascript: open new page in same window

I'd take that a slightly different way if I were you. Change the text link when the page loads, not on the click. I'll give the example in jQuery, but it could easily be done in vanilla javascript (though, jQuery is nicer)

$(function() {
    $('a[href$="url="]') // all links whose href ends in "url="
        .each(function(i, el) {
            this.href += escape(document.location.href);
        })
    ;
});

and write your HTML like this:

<a href="http://example.com/submit.php?url=">...</a>

the benefits of this are that people can see what they're clicking on (the href is already set), and it removes the javascript from your HTML.

All this said, it looks like you're using PHP... why not add it in server-side?

How to dock "Tool Options" to "Toolbox"?

In the detached 'Tool Options' window, click on the red 'X' in the upper right corner to get rid of the window. Then on the main Gimp screen, click on 'Windows,' then 'Dockable Dialogs.' The first entry on its list will be 'Tool Options,' so click on that. Then, Tool Options will appear as a tab in the window on the right side of the screen, along with layers and undo history. Click and drag that tab over to the toolbox window on hte left and drop it inside. The tool options will again be docked in the toolbox.

Structuring online documentation for a REST API

That's a very complex question for a simple answer.

You may want to take a look at existing API frameworks, like Swagger Specification (OpenAPI), and services like apiary.io and apiblueprint.org.

Also, here's an example of the same REST API described, organized and even styled in three different ways. It may be a good start for you to learn from existing common ways.

At the very top level I think quality REST API docs require at least the following:

  • a list of all your API endpoints (base/relative URLs)
  • corresponding HTTP GET/POST/... method type for each endpoint
  • request/response MIME-type (how to encode params and parse replies)
  • a sample request/response, including HTTP headers
  • type and format specified for all params, including those in the URL, body and headers
  • a brief text description and important notes
  • a short code snippet showing the use of the endpoint in popular web programming languages

Also there are a lot of JSON/XML-based doc frameworks which can parse your API definition or schema and generate a convenient set of docs for you. But the choice for a doc generation system depends on your project, language, development environment and many other things.

ORA-01653: unable to extend table by in tablespace ORA-06512

To resolve this error:

ORA-01653 unable to extend table by 1024 in tablespace your-tablespace-name

Just run this PL/SQL command for extended tablespace size automatically on-demand:

alter database datafile '<your-tablespace-name>.dbf' autoextend on maxsize unlimited;

I get this error in import big dump file, just run this command without stopping import routine or restarting the database.

Note: each data file has a limit of 32GB of size if you need more than 32GB you should add a new data file to your existing tablespace.

More info: alter_autoextend_on

Returning an empty array

I'm pretty sure you should go with bar(); because with foo(); it creates a List (for nothing) since you create a new File[0] in the end anyway, so why not go with directly returning it!

How do I get the current year using SQL on Oracle?

Since we are doing this one to death - you don't have to specify a year:

select * from demo
where  somedate between to_date('01/01 00:00:00', 'DD/MM HH24:MI:SS')
                and     to_date('31/12 23:59:59', 'DD/MM HH24:MI:SS');

However the accepted answer by FerranB makes more sense if you want to specify all date values that fall within the current year.

Simulating group_concat MySQL function in Microsoft SQL Server 2005?

Have a look at the GROUP_CONCAT project on Github, I think I does exactly what you are searching for:

This project contains a set of SQLCLR User-defined Aggregate functions (SQLCLR UDAs) that collectively offer similar functionality to the MySQL GROUP_CONCAT function. There are multiple functions to ensure the best performance based on the functionality required...

Reading a plain text file in Java

Below is a one-liner of doing it in the Java 8 way. Assuming text.txt file is in the root of the project directory of the Eclipse.

Files.lines(Paths.get("text.txt")).collect(Collectors.toList());

Python: subplot within a loop: first panel appears in wrong position

Basically the same solution as provided by Rutger Kassies, but using a more pythonic syntax:

fig, axs = plt.subplots(2,5, figsize=(15, 6), facecolor='w', edgecolor='k')
fig.subplots_adjust(hspace = .5, wspace=.001)

data = np.arange(250, 260)

for ax, d in zip(axs.ravel(), data):
    ax.contourf(np.random.rand(10,10), 5, cmap=plt.cm.Oranges)
    ax.set_title(str(d))

Remove unwanted parts from strings in a column

I often use list comprehensions for these types of tasks because they're often faster.

There can be big differences in performance between the various methods for doing things like this (i.e. modifying every element of a series within a DataFrame). Often a list comprehension can be fastest - see code race below for this task:

import pandas as pd
#Map
data = pd.DataFrame({'time':['09:00','10:00','11:00','12:00','13:00'], 'result':['+52A','+62B','+44a','+30b','-110a']})
%timeit data['result'] = data['result'].map(lambda x: x.lstrip('+-').rstrip('aAbBcC'))
10000 loops, best of 3: 187 µs per loop
#List comprehension
data = pd.DataFrame({'time':['09:00','10:00','11:00','12:00','13:00'], 'result':['+52A','+62B','+44a','+30b','-110a']})
%timeit data['result'] = [x.lstrip('+-').rstrip('aAbBcC') for x in data['result']]
10000 loops, best of 3: 117 µs per loop
#.str
data = pd.DataFrame({'time':['09:00','10:00','11:00','12:00','13:00'], 'result':['+52A','+62B','+44a','+30b','-110a']})
%timeit data['result'] = data['result'].str.lstrip('+-').str.rstrip('aAbBcC')
1000 loops, best of 3: 336 µs per loop

How to get values and keys from HashMap?

It will work with hash.get("key"); Where key is your key for getting the value from Map

Returning the product of a list

Without using lambda:

from operator import mul
reduce(mul, list, 1)

it is better and faster. With python 2.7.5

from operator import mul
import numpy as np
import numexpr as ne
# from functools import reduce # python3 compatibility

a = range(1, 101)
%timeit reduce(lambda x, y: x * y, a)   # (1)
%timeit reduce(mul, a)                  # (2)
%timeit np.prod(a)                      # (3)
%timeit ne.evaluate("prod(a)")          # (4)

In the following configuration:

a = range(1, 101)  # A
a = np.array(a)    # B
a = np.arange(1, 1e4, dtype=int) #C
a = np.arange(1, 1e5, dtype=float) #D

Results with python 2.7.5

       |     1     |     2     |     3     |     4     |
-------+-----------+-----------+-----------+-----------+
 A       20.8 µs     13.3 µs     22.6 µs     39.6 µs
 B        106 µs     95.3 µs     5.92 µs     26.1 µs
 C       4.34 ms     3.51 ms     16.7 µs     38.9 µs
 D       46.6 ms     38.5 ms      180 µs      216 µs

Result: np.prod is the fastest one, if you use np.array as data structure (18x for small array, 250x for large array)

with python 3.3.2:

       |     1     |     2     |     3     |     4     |
-------+-----------+-----------+-----------+-----------+
 A       23.6 µs     12.3 µs     68.6 µs     84.9 µs
 B        133 µs      107 µs     7.42 µs     27.5 µs
 C       4.79 ms     3.74 ms     18.6 µs     40.9 µs
 D       48.4 ms     36.8 ms      187 µs      214 µs

Map vs Object in JavaScript

Summary:

  • Object: A data structure in which data is stored as key value pairs. In an object the key has to be a number, string, or symbol. The value can be anything so also other objects, functions etc. A object is an non ordered data structure, i.e. the sequence of insertion of key value pairs is not remembered
  • ES6 Map: A data structure in which data is stored as key value pairs. In which a unique key maps to a value. Both the key and the value can be in any data type. A map is a iterable data structure, this means that the sequence of insertion is remembered and that we can access the elements in e.g. a for..of loop

Key differences:

  • A Map is ordered and iterable, whereas a objects is not ordered and not iterable

  • We can put any type of data as a Map key, whereas objects can only have a number, string, or symbol as a key.

  • A Map inherits from Map.prototype. This offers all sorts of utility functions and properties which makes working with Map objects a lot easier.

Example:

object:

_x000D_
_x000D_
let obj = {};_x000D_
_x000D_
// adding properties to a object_x000D_
obj.prop1 = 1;_x000D_

_x000D_

delete obj[2]_x000D_
_x000D_
console.log(obj)
_x000D_

What is python's site-packages directory?

site-packages is the target directory of manually built Python packages. When you build and install Python packages from source (using distutils, probably by executing python setup.py install), you will find the installed modules in site-packages by default.

There are standard locations:

  • Unix (pure)1: prefix/lib/pythonX.Y/site-packages
  • Unix (non-pure): exec-prefix/lib/pythonX.Y/site-packages
  • Windows: prefix\Lib\site-packages

1 Pure means that the module uses only Python code. Non-pure can contain C/C++ code as well.

site-packages is by default part of the Python search path, so modules installed there can be imported easily afterwards.

Yes, it is enabled by default. You can disable it by using the -u option on the command line when calling python.

Heap vs Binary Search Tree (BST)

Heap just guarantees that elements on higher levels are greater (for max-heap) or smaller (for min-heap) than elements on lower levels

I love the above answer and putting my comment just more specific to my need and usage. I had to get the n locations list find the distance from each location to specific point say (0,0) and then return the a m locations having smaller distance. I used Priority Queue which is Heap. For finding distances and putting in heap it took me n(log(n)) n-locations log(n) each insertion. Then for getting m with shortest distances it took m(log(n)) m-locations log(n) deletions of heaping up.

I if would have to do this with BST, it would have taken me n(n) worst case insertion.(Say the first value is very smaller and all other comes sequentially longer and longer and the tree spans to right child only or left child in case of smaller and smaller. The min would have taken O(1) time but again I had to balance. So from my situation and all above answers what I got is when you are only after the values at min or max priority basis go for heap.

OS X Terminal Colors

When I worked on Mac OS X in the lab I was able to get the terminal colors from using Terminal (rather than X11) and then editing the profile (from the Mac menu bar). The interface is a bit odd on the colors, but you have to set the modified theme as default.

Further settings worked by editing .bashrc.

I have filtered my Excel data and now I want to number the rows. How do I do that?

I had the same problem. I'm no expert but this is the solution we used: Before you filter your data, first create a temporary column to populate your entire data set with your original sort order. Auto number the temporary "original sort order" column. Now filter your data. Copy and paste the filtered data into a new worksheet. This will move only the filtered data to the new sheet so that your row numbers will become consecutive. Now auto number your desired field. Go back to your original worksheet and delete the filtered rows. Copy and paste the newly numbered data from the secondary sheet onto the bottom of your original worksheet. Then clear your filter and sort the worksheet by the temporary "original sort order" column. This will put your newly numbered data back into its original order and you can then delete the temporary column.

Array copy values to keys in PHP

$final_array = array_combine($a, $a);

P.S. Be careful with source array containing duplicated keys like the following:

$a = ['one','two','one'];

Note the duplicated one element.

Hashset vs Treeset

Message Edit ( complete rewrite ) When order does not matter, that's when. Both should give Log(n) - it would be of utility to see if either is over five percent faster than the other. HashSet can give O(1) testing in a loop should reveal whether it is.

Is there a way to create multiline comments in Python?

I would advise against using """ for multi line comments!

Here is a simple example to highlight what might be considered an unexpected behavior:

print('{}\n{}'.format(
    'I am a string',
    """
    Some people consider me a
    multi-line comment, but
    """
    'clearly I am also a string'
    )
)

Now have a look at the output:

I am a string

    Some people consider me a
    multi-line comment, but
    clearly I am also a string

The multi line string was not treated as comment, but it was concatenated with 'clearly I'm also a string' to form a single string.

If you want to comment multiple lines do so according to PEP 8 guidelines:

print('{}\n{}'.format(
    'I am a string',
    # Some people consider me a
    # multi-line comment, but
    'clearly I am also a string'
    )
)

Output:

I am a string
clearly I am also a string

How do you get a directory listing in C?

The strict answer is "you can't", as the very concept of a folder is not truly cross-platform.

On MS platforms you can use _findfirst, _findnext and _findclose for a 'c' sort of feel, and FindFirstFile and FindNextFile for the underlying Win32 calls.
