You don't need to prefix attribute name by @ in jQuery selector. Use closest() method to get the closest parent element matching the selector.

closest() - Gets the first element that matches the selector, beginning at the current element and progressing up through the DOM tree.

As a side note, the ids of the elements should be unique on the page so try to avoid having same ids for radio buttons which I can see in your markup. If you are not going to use the ids then just remove it from the markup.

A few more things in addition to the existing answers. Have a look at this:

The variable name setFlag is very generic, if your only using it in conjunction with the number of seats you should rename it (I called it seatsValid). I also initialized it to true which gets rid of the need for the final else in your original code. Next, I put the selector and call to .val() in a variable. It's good practice to cache your selectors so jquery doesn't need to traverse the DOM more than it needs to. Lastly when comparing two values you should try to make sure they are the same type, in this case seatsVal is a string so in order to properly compare it to 99999 you should use parseInt() on it.

Not really an answer to the specific question, but if there are others, like me, who are getting this error in fastAPI and end up here:

It is probably because your route response has a value that can't be JSON serialised by jsonable_encoder. For me it was WKBElement: https://github.com/tiangolo/fastapi/issues/2366

Like in the issue, I ended up just removing the value from the output.

You might consider turning your python script into a proper python daemon, as described here.

python-daemon is a good tool that can be used to run python scripts as a background daemon process rather than a forever running script. You will need to modify existing code a bit but its plain and simple.

If you are facing problems with python-daemon, there is another utility supervisor that will do the same for you, but in this case you wont have to write any code (or modify existing) as this is a out of the box solution for daemonizing processes.

I'd suggest you put it into an init() somewhere, where you are sure, that this will be executed before anything else. You can then remove all existing appenders on the root logger with

 Logger.getRootLogger().getLoggerRepository().resetConfiguration();

and start with adding your own. You need log4j in the classpath of course for this to work.

Remark:
You can take any Logger.getLogger(...) you like to add appenders. I just took the root logger because it is at the bottom of all things and will handle everything that is passed through other appenders in other categories (unless configured otherwise by setting the additivity flag).

If you need to know how logging works and how is decided where logs are written read this manual for more infos about that.
In Short:

  Logger fizz = LoggerFactory.getLogger("com.fizz")

will give you a logger for the category "com.fizz".
For the above example this means that everything logged with it will be referred to the console and file appender on the root logger.
If you add an appender to Logger.getLogger("com.fizz").addAppender(newAppender) then logging from fizz will be handled by alle the appenders from the root logger and the newAppender.
You don't create Loggers with the configuration, you just provide handlers for all possible categories in your system.

Chrome not rendering SVG referenced via <img> tag

Had the same problem. If server is configured correctly and .htacces is not the answer, might want to look the svg source you are embedding. Mine were created with text editor, rendered well on Chrome&Safari inside html5 code, once embedded, nothing was visible. Added correct version, dimensions etc to the svg code and works like a charm. Also, all styles inline.

I had the same issue with VS2017. Following solved the issue.

  1. Run Command prompt as Administrator.
  2. Write following two commands which will update your registry.

reg add HKLM\Software\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\InetStp /v MajorVersion /t REG_DWORD /d 10 /f

reg add HKLM\Software\Microsoft\InetStp /v MajorVersion /t REG_DWORD /d 10 /f

I usually use git on my linux machine, but at work I have to use Windows. I had the same problem when trying to commit the first commit in a Windows environment.

Vertically align text to top within a UILabel

I took a while to read the code, as well as the code in the introduced page, and found that they all try to modify the frame size of label, so that the default center vertical alignment would not appear.

However, in some cases we do want the label to occupy all those spaces, even if the label does have so much text (e.g. multiple rows with equal height).

Here, I used an alternative way to solve it, by simply pad newlines to the end of label (pls note that I actually inherited the UILabel, but it is not necessary):

If you are getting this error from the MiniProfiler in MVC then you can increase the value by setting the property MiniProfiler.Settings.MaxJsonResponseSize to the desired value. By default, this tool seems to ignore the value set in config.

Your second date is before your first date (ie. you are querying between September 29 2010 and January 30 2010). Try reversing the order of the dates:

It is not mentioned which environment is used for executing Liquibase. In case it is Spring Boot 2 it is possible to extend liquibase.lockservice.StandardLockService without the need to run direct SQL statements which is much cleaner. E.g.:

JQuery's :empty selector selects all elements on the page that are empty in the sense that they have no child elements, including text nodes, not all inputs that have no text in them.

This works because an empty string in JavaScript is a 'falsy value', which basically means if you try to use it as a boolean value it will always evaluate to false. If you want, you can change the conditional to $(this).val() === '' for added clarity. :D

This will probably only affect a small percentage of people, but in my case my project was using CocoaPods and one of those pods had a sub spec with its own CocoaPods. The solution was to use full angle imports to reference any files in the sub-pods.

Running conda with proxy

The best way I settled with is to set proxy environment variables right before using conda or pip install/update commands. Simply run:

OPTION (RECOMPILE) is Always Faster; Why?

There are times that using OPTION(RECOMPILE) makes sense. In my experience the only time this is a viable option is when you are using dynamic SQL. Before you explore whether this makes sense in your situation I would recommend rebuilding your statistics. This can be done by running the following:

EXEC sp_updatestats

And then recreating your execution plan. This will ensure that when your execution plan is created it will be using the latest information.

Adding OPTION(RECOMPILE) rebuilds the execution plan every time that your query executes. I have never heard that described as creates a new lookup strategy but maybe we are just using different terms for the same thing.

When a stored procedure is created (I suspect you are calling ad-hoc sql from .NET but if you are using a parameterized query then this ends up being a stored proc call) SQL Server attempts to determine the most effective execution plan for this query based on the data in your database and the parameters passed in (parameter sniffing), and then caches this plan. This means that if you create the query where there are 10 records in your database and then execute it when there are 100,000,000 records the cached execution plan may no longer be the most effective.

In summary - I don't see any reason that OPTION(RECOMPILE) would be a benefit here. I suspect you just need to update your statistics and your execution plan. Rebuilding statistics can be an essential part of DBA work depending on your situation. If you are still having problems after updating your stats, I would suggest posting both execution plans.

And to answer your question - yes, I would say it is highly unusual for your best option to be recompiling the execution plan every time you execute the query.

Why both no-cache and no-store should be used in HTTP response?

no-store should not be necessary in normal situations, and can harm both speed and usability. It is intended for use where the HTTP response contains information so sensitive it should never be written to a disk cache at all, regardless of the negative effects that creates for the user.

How it works:

  • Normally, even if a user agent such as a browser determines that a response shouldn't be cached, it may still store it to the disk cache for reasons internal to the user agent. This version may be utilised for features like "view source", "back", "page info", and so on, where the user hasn't necessarily requested the page again, but the browser doesn't consider it a new page view and it would make sense to serve the same version the user is currently viewing.

  • Using no-store will prevent that response being stored, but this may impact the browser's ability to give "view source", "back", "page info" and so on without making a new, separate request for the server, which is undesirable. In other words, the user may try viewing the source and if the browser didn't keep it in memory, they'll either be told this isn't possible, or it will cause a new request to the server. Therefore, no-store should only be used when the impeded user experience of these features not working properly or quickly is outweighed by the importance of ensuring content is not stored in the cache.

My current understanding is that it is just for intermediate cache server. Even if "no-cache" is in response, intermediate cache server can still save the content to non-volatile storage.

This is incorrect. Intermediate cache servers compatible with HTTP 1.1 will obey the no-cache and must-revalidate instructions, ensuring that content is not cached. Using these instructions will ensure that the response is not cached by any intermediate cache, and that all subsequent requests are sent back to the origin server.

If the intermediate cache server does not support HTTP 1.1, then you will need to use Pragma: no-cache and hope for the best. Note that if it doesn't support HTTP 1.1 then no-store is irrelevant anyway.

"use database_name" command in PostgreSQL

The basic problem while migrating from MySQL I faced was, I thought of the term database to be same in PostgreSQL also, but it is not. So if we are going to switch the database from our application or pgAdmin, the result would not be as expected. As in my case, we have separate schemas (Considering PostgreSQL terminology here.) for each customer and separate admin schema. So in application, I have to switch between schemas.

It's true that's it's not listed in PEP 484, but type hints are an application of function annotations, which are documented in PEP 3107. The syntax section makes it clear that keyword arguments works with function annotations in this way.

I strongly advise against using mutable keyword arguments. More information here.

I viewed the Eclipse ADT documentation and found out the way to get around this issue. I was able to Update My SDK Tool to 22.0.4 (Latest Version).

Solution is: First Update ADT to 22.0.4(Latest version) and then Update SDK Tool to 22.0.4(Latest Version)

What I had to do was update my ADT to 22.0.4 (Latest Version) and then I was able to update SDK tool to 22.0.4. I thought only SDK Tool has been updated not ADT, so I was updating the SDK Tool with Older ADT Version (22.0.1).

  1. In Eclipse go to Help
  2. Install New Software ---> Add
  3. inside Add Repository write the Name: ADT (or whatever you want)

You are getting this error because the value cannot be found in the range. String or integer doesn't matter. Best thing to do in my experience is to do a check first to see if the value exists.

There are better ways of getting the last row in column B than using a While loop, plenty of examples around here. Some are better than others but depend on what you're doing and what your worksheet structure looks like. I used one here which assumes that column B is ALL empty except the rows/records you're moving. If that's not the case, or if B1:B3 have some values in them, you'd need to modify or use another method. Or you could just use your loop, but I'd search for alternatives :)

If you run GPEdit.MSC you can go to Computer Configuration -> Windows Settings -> Scripts, and add startup /shutdown scripts. These can be simple batch files, or even full blown EXEs. The problem is that you're (probably) trying to plot a vector that consists exclusively of missing (NA) values. Here's an example:

You can use .offset() to get the offset compared to the document element and then use the scrollTop property of the window element to find how far down the page the user has scrolled:

There's no Java collection in the standard library to do this. LinkedHashSet<E> preserves ordering similarly to a List, though, so if you wrap your set in a List when you want to use it as a List you'll get the semantics you want.

Alternatively, the Commons Collections (or commons-collections4, for the generic version) has a List which does what you want already: SetUniqueList / SetUniqueList<E>.

For those who get this error in an ASP.NET MVC 3 project, within Visual Studio itself:

In an ASP.NET MVC 3 app I'm working on, I tried adding a reference to Microsoft.SqlServer.BatchParser to a project to resolve a problem where it was missing on a deployment server. (Our app uses SMO; the correct fix was to install SQL Server Native Client and a couple other things on the deployment server.)

Even after I removed the reference to BatchParser, I kept getting the "An attempt was made..." error, referencing the BatchParser DLL, on every ASP.NET MVC 3 page I opened, and that error was followed by dozens of page parsing errors.

If this happens to you, do a file search and see if the DLL is still in one of your project's \bin folders. Even if you do a rebuild, Visual Studio doesn't necessarily clear out everything in all your \bin folders. When I deleted the DLL from the bin and built again, the error went away.

Eclipse fonts and background color

Background color of views (navigator, console, tasks etc) is set according to the desktop (system) settings. On Linux/GNome I changed System/Preferences/Appeareance to change this color.

Editor colors are set chaotically by different editors, search for background in eclipse preferences to find different options. One easy way to get beautiful dark (and not only dark) themes is to install Afae plugin, and then pick theme within its preferences (twilight theme is beautiful, for example) - again, eclipse prefs, Afae group. Of course this applies only when you edit with Afae.

There are 3 ways I can think of:

The way that is easiest to explain is

:%s/phrase to delete//gc

but you can also (personally I use this second one more often) do a regular search for the phrase to delete

/phrase to delete

Vim will take you to the beginning of the next occurrence of the phrase.

Go into insert mode (hit i) and use the Delete key to remove the phrase.

Hit escape when you have deleted all of the phrase.

Now that you have done this one time, you can hit n to go to the next occurrence of the phrase and then hit the dot/period "." key to perform the delete action you just performed

Continue hitting n and dot until you are done.

Lastly you can do a search for the phrase to delete (like in second method) but this time, instead of going into insert mode, you

Count the number of characters you want to delete

Type that number in (with number keys)

Hit the x key - characters should get deleted

Continue through with n and dot like in the second method.

PS - And if you didn't know already you can do a capital n to move backwards through the search matches.

Reading column names alone in a csv file

I am just mentioning how to get all the column names from a csv file. I am using pandas library.

First we read the file.

PHP using Gettext inside <<<EOF string

As far as I can see in the manual, it is not possible to call functions inside HEREDOC strings. A cumbersome way would be to prepare the words beforehand:

a workaround idea that comes to mind is building a class with a magic getter method.

You would declare a class like this:

You can then use the following syntax to do a gettext lookup inside a HEREDOC block:

$translate->World will automatically be translated to the gettext lookup thanks to the magic getter method.

To use this method for words with spaces or special characters (e.g. a gettext entry named Hello World!!!!!!, you will have to use the following notation:

 $translate->{"Hello World!!!!!!"}

This is all untested but should work.

Update: As @mario found out, it is possible to call functions from HEREDOC strings after all. I think using getters like this is a sleek solution, but using a direct function call may be easier. See the comments on how to do this.

500 Error on AppHarbor but downloaded build works on my machine

Just a wild guess: (not much to go on) but I have had similar problems when, for example, I was using the IIS rewrite module on my local machine (and it worked fine), but when I uploaded to a host that did not have that add-on module installed, I would get a 500 error with very little to go on - sounds similar. It drove me crazy trying to find it.

So make sure whatever options/addons that you might have and be using locally in IIS are also installed on the host.

Similarly, make sure you understand everything that is being referenced/used in your web.config - that is likely the problem area.

Compiling php with curl, where is curl installed?

php curl lib is just a wrapper of cUrl, so, first of all, you should install cUrl. Download the cUrl source to your linux server. Then, use the follow commands to install:

ln -s  /curl/install/home/bin/curl-config /usr/bin/curl-config

I restarted my computer (Mac Mountain Lion) and the problem fixed itself. Something having to do with the shell thinking it was disconnected from the internet I think.

Restarting your shell in some definite way may solve this problem as well. Simply opening up a new session/window however did not work.

Why can't Python find shared objects that are in directories in sys.path?

Ensure your libcurl.so module is in the system library path, which is distinct and separate from the python library path.

A "quick fix" is to add this path to a LD_LIBRARY_PATH variable. However, setting that system wide (or even account wide) is a BAD IDEA, as it is possible to set it in such a way that some programs will find a library it shouldn't, or even worse, open up security holes.

If your "locally installed libraries" are installed in, for example, /usr/local/lib, add this directory to /etc/ld.so.conf (it's a text file) and run "ldconfig"

The command will run a caching utility, but will also create all the necessary "symbolic links" required for the loader system to function. It is surprising that the "make install" for libcurl did not do this already, but it's possible it could not if /usr/local/lib is not in /etc/ld.so.conf already.

PS: it's possible that your /etc/ld.so.conf contains nothing but "include ld.so.conf.d/*.conf". You can still add a directory path after it, or just create a new file inside the directory it's being included from. Dont forget to run "ldconfig" after it.

Be careful. Getting this wrong can screw up your system.

Additionally: make sure your python module is compiled against THAT version of libcurl. If you just copied some files over from another system, this wont always work. If in doubt, compile your modules on the system you intend to run them on.

The HTML5 properties "step", "min" and "pattern" will be validated when the form is submit, not onblur. You don't need the step if you have a pattern and you don't need a pattern if you have a step. So you could revert back to step="any" with my code since the pattern will validate it anyways.

If you'd like to validate onblur, I believe giving the user a visual cue is also helpful like coloring the background red. If the user's browser doesn't support type="number" it will fallback to type="text". If the user's browser doesn't support the HTML5 pattern validation, my JavaScript snippet doesn't prevent the form from submitting, but it gives a visual cue. So for people with poor HTML5 support, and people trying to hack into the database with JavaScript disabled or forging HTTP Requests, you need to validate on the server again anyways. The point with validation on the front-end is for a better user experience. So as long as most of your users have a good experience, it's fine to rely on HTML5 features provided the code will still works and you can validate on the back-end.

My observations based on a few tests has been that whichever name differs from the property name is one which takes effect:

How to ignore conflicts in rpm installs

The --force option will reinstall already installed packages or overwrite already installed files from other packages. You don't want this normally.

If you tell rpm to install all RPMs from some directory, then it does exactly this. rpm will not ignore RPMs listed for installation. You must manually remove the unneeded RPMs from the list (or directory). It will always overwrite the files with the "latest RPM installed" whichever order you do it in.

You can remove the old RPM and rpm will resolve the dependency with the newer version of the installed RPM. But this will only work, if none of the to be installed RPMs depends exactly on the old version.

If you really need different versions of the same RPM, then the RPM must be relocatable. You can then tell rpm to install the specific RPM to a different directory. If the files are not conflicting, then you can just install different versions with rpm -i (zypper in can not install different versions of the same RPM). I am packaging for example ruby gems as relocatable RPMs at work. So I can have different versions of the same gem installed.

I don't know on which files your RPMs are conflicting, but if all of them are "just" man pages, then you probably can simply overwrite the new ones with the old ones with rpm -i --replacefiles. The only problem with this would be, that it could confuse somebody who is reading the old man page and thinks it is for the actual version. Another problem would be the rpm --verify command. It will complain for the new package if the old one has overwritten some files.

What you are asking is thoroughly covered by Eric Lippert in his blog post Closing over the loop variable considered harmful and its sequel.

For me, the most convincing argument is that having new variable in each iteration would be inconsistent with for(;;) style loop. Would you expect to have a new int i in each iteration of for (int i = 0; i < 10; i++)?

The most common problem with this behavior is making a closure over iteration variable and it has an easy workaround:

How can I get the length of text entered in a textbox using jQuery?

You need to only grab the element with an appropriate jQuery selector and then the .val() method to get the string contained in the input textbox and then call the .length on that string.

$('input:text').val().length

However, be warned that if the selector matches multiple inputs, .val() will only return the value of the first textbox. You can also change the selector to get a more specific element but keep the :text to ensure it's an input textbox.

On another note, to get the length of a string contained in another, non-input element, you can use the .text() function to get the string and then use .length on that string to find its length.

A Jmeter Test Plan must have listener to showcase the result of performance test execution.

  • Listeners capture the response coming back from Server while Jmeter runs and showcase in the form of – tree, tables, graphs and log files.

Label: It is the name/URL for the specific HTTP(s) Request. If you have selected “Include group name in label?” option then the name of the Thread Group is applied as the prefix to each label.

Samples: This indicates the number of virtual users per request.

Average: It is the average time taken by all the samples to execute specific label. In our case, the average time for Label 1 is 942 milliseconds & total average time is 584 milliseconds.

Min: The shortest time taken by a sample for specific label. If we look at Min value for Label 1 then, out of 20 samples shortest response time one of the sample had was 584 milliseconds.

Max: The longest time taken by a sample for specific label. If we look at Max value for Label 1 then, out of 20 samples longest response time one of the sample had was 2867 milliseconds.

Std. Dev.: This shows the set of exceptional cases which were deviating from the average value of sample response time. The lesser this value more consistent the data. Standard deviation should be less than or equal to half of the average time for a label.

Error%: Percentage of Failed requests per Label.

Throughput: Throughput is the number of request that are processed per time unit(seconds, minutes, hours) by the server. This time is calculated from the start of first sample to the end of the last sample. Larger throughput is better.

KB/Sec: This indicates the amount of data downloaded from server during the performance test execution. In short, it is the Throughput measured in Kilobytes per second.

I was also receiving such an exception, but the problem was in my Entity identifier. I am using UUID and there are some problems in the way Spring works with them. So I just added this line to my entity identifier and it began working:

Script Tag - async & defer

Keep your scripts right before </body>. Async can be used with scripts located there in a few circumstances (see discussion below). Defer won't make much of a difference for scripts located there because the DOM parsing work has pretty much already been done anyway.

Your HTML will display quicker in older browsers if you keep the scripts at the end of the body right before </body>. So, to preserve the load speed in older browsers, you don't want to put them anywhere else.

If your second script depends upon the first script (e.g. your second script uses the jQuery loaded in the first script), then you can't make them async without additional code to control execution order, but you can make them defer because defer scripts will still be executed in order, just not until after the document has been parsed. If you have that code and you don't need the scripts to run right away, you can make them async or defer.

You could put the scripts in the <head> tag and set them to defer and the loading of the scripts will be deferred until the DOM has been parsed and that will get fast page display in new browsers that support defer, but it won't help you at all in older browsers and it isn't really any faster than just putting the scripts right before </body> which works in all browsers. So, you can see why it's just best to put them right before </body>.

Async is more useful when you really don't care when the script loads and nothing else that is user dependent depends upon that script loading. The most often cited example for using async is an analytics script like Google Analytics that you don't want anything to wait for and it's not urgent to run soon and it stands alone so nothing else depends upon it.

Usually the jQuery library is not a good candidate for async because other scripts depend upon it and you want to install event handlers so your page can start responding to user events and you may need to run some jQuery-based initialization code to establish the initial state of the page. It can be used async, but other scripts will have to be coded to not execute until jQuery is loaded.

I tried this out for transmitting continuous data (float values converted to string) from my PC (MATLAB) to my phone. But, still my App misreads the delimiter '\n' and still data gets garbled. So, I took the character 'N' as the delimiter rather than '\n' (it could be any character that doesn't occur as part of your data) and I've achieved better transmission speed - I gave just 0.1 seconds delay between transmitting successive samples - with more than 99% data integrity at the receiver i.e. out of 2000 samples (float values) that I transmitted, only 10 were not decoded properly in my application.

My answer in short is: Choose a delimiter other than '\r' or '\n' as these create more problems for real-time data transmission when compared to other characters like the one I've used. If we work more, may be we can increase the transmission rate even more. I hope my answer helps someone!

Unit testing void methods?

Void return types / Subroutines are old news. I haven't made a Void return type (Unless I was being extremely lazy) in like 8 years (From the time of this answer, so just a bit before this question was asked).

Instead of a method like:

Make a method that follows Microsoft's int.TryParse() paradigm:

public bool TrySendEmailToCustomer()

Maybe there isn't any information your method needs to return for usage in the long-run, but returning the state of the method after it performs its job is a huge use to the caller.

Also, bool isn't the only state type. There are a number of times when a previously-made Subroutine could actually return three or more different states (Good, Normal, Bad, etc). In those cases, you'd just use

public StateEnum TrySendEmailToCustomer()

However, while the Try-Paradigm somewhat answers this question on how to test a void return, there are other considerations too. For example, during/after a "TDD" cycle, you would be "Refactoring" and notice you are doing two things with your method... thus breaking the "Single Responsibility Principle." So that should be taken care of first. Second, you might have idenetified a dependency... you're touching "Persistent" Data.

If you are doing the data access stuff in the method-in-question, you need to refactor into an n-tier'd or n-layer'd architecture. But we can assume that when you say "The strings are then inserted into a database", you actually mean you're calling a business logic layer or something. Ya, we'll assume that.

When your object is instantiated, you now understand that your object has dependencies. This is when you need to decide if you are going to do Dependency Injection on the Object, or on the Method. That means your Constructor or the method-in-question needs a new Parameter:

Now that you can accept an interface of your business/data tier object, you can mock it out during Unit Tests and have no dependencies or fear of "Accidental" integration testing.

So in your live code, you pass in a REAL IBusinessDataEtc object. But in your Unit Testing, you pass in a MOCK IBusinessDataEtc object. In that Mock, you can include Non-Interface Properties like int XMethodWasCalledCount or something whose state(s) are updated when the interface methods are called.

So your Unit Test will go through your Method(s)-In-Question, perform whatever logic they have, and call one or two, or a selected set of methods in your IBusinessDataEtc object. When you do your Assertions at the end of your Unit Test you have a couple of things to test now.

  1. The State of the "Subroutine" which is now a Try-Paradigm method.
  2. The State of your Mock IBusinessDataEtc object.

For more information on Dependency Injection ideas on the Construction-level... as they pertain to Unit Testing... look into Builder design patterns. It adds one more interface and class for each current interface/class you have, but they are very tiny and provide HUGE functionality increases for better Unit-Testing.

Java: Finding the highest value in an array

If you are looking for the quickest and simplest way to perform various actions in regards to arrays, the use of the Collections class is extremely helpful (documentation available from https://docs.oracle.com/javase/7/docs/api/java/util/Collections.html), actions ranges from finding the maximum, minimum, sorting, reverse order, etc.

A simple way to find the maximum value from the array with the use of Collections:

However the Arrays class does not have a method that refers to the maximum value directly, sorting it and referring to the last index is the maximum value, however keep in mind sorting by the above 2 methods has a complexity of O(n log n).
