ORA-12899 Error value too large for the column

SQL Error: ORA-12899: value too large for column

As mentioned, the error message shows you the exact problem: you are passing 25 characters into a field set up to hold 20. You might also want to consider defining the columns a little more precisely. You can define whether the VARCHAR2 column will store a certain number of bytes or characters. You may encounter a problem in the future where you try to insert a multi byte character into the field, for example this is 5 characters in length but it won't fit into 5 bytes: 'ÀÈÌÕÛ'

Here is an example:

CREATE TABLE Customers(CustomerID  VARCHAR2(9 BYTE), ...

or

CREATE TABLE Customers(CustomerID  VARCHAR2(9 CHAR), ...

Running JAR file on Windows

Besides all of the other suggestions, there is one other thing you need to consider. Is your helloworld.jar a console program? If it is, then I don't believe you'll be able to make it into a double-clickable jar file. Console programs use the regular cmd.exe shell window for their input and output. Usually the jar "launcher" is bound to javaw.exe which doesn't create a command-shell window.

Use querystring variables in MVC controller

Here is what I came up with. I was having major problems with this and believe I am in MVC 6 now but this may be helpful to someone even myself in the future..

//The issue was that Reqest.Form Request.Querystring and Request not working in MVC the solution is to use Context.Request.Form and also making sure the form has been submitted otherwise null reference or context issue bug will show up.

     if(Context.Request.ContentLength != null)
     {
         String StartDate = Context.Request.Form["StartMonth"].ToString();
         String EndMonth = Context.Request.Form["EndMonth"].ToString();
        // Vendor

     }

Pretty print in MongoDB shell as default

Give a try to Mongo-hacker(node module), it alway prints pretty. https://github.com/TylerBrock/mongo-hacker

More it enhances mongo shell (supports only ver>2.4, current ver is 3.0), like

  • Colorization
  • Additional shell commands (count documents/count docs/etc)
  • API Additions (db.collection.find({ ... }).last(), db.collection.find({ ... }).reverse(), etc)
  • Aggregation Framework

I am using for while in production env, no problems yet.

Reading RFID with Android phones

You can use a simple, low-cost USB port reader like this test connects directly to your Android device; it has a utility app and an SDK you can use for app development: https://www.atlasrfidstore.com/sls-rfid-smartmicro-android-micro-usb-reader/

'AND' vs '&&' as operator

If you use AND and OR, you'll eventually get tripped up by something like this:

$this_one = true;
$that = false;

$truthiness = $this_one and $that;

Want to guess what $truthiness equals?

If you said false... bzzzt, sorry, wrong!

$truthiness above has the value true. Why? = has a higher precedence than and. The addition of parentheses to show the implicit order makes this clearer:

($truthiness = $this_one) and $that

If you used && instead of and in the first code example, it would work as expected and be false.

As discussed in the comments below, this also works to get the correct value, as parentheses have higher precedence than =:

$truthiness = ($this_one and $that)

How do I convert an NSString value to NSData?

NSString* str = @"teststring";
NSData* data = [str dataUsingEncoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding];

What is the difference between a database and a data warehouse?

A data warehouse is a TYPE of database.

In addition to what folks have already said, data warehouses tend to be OLAP, with indexes, etc. tuned for reading, not writing, and the data is de-normalized / transformed into forms that are easier to read & analyze.

Some folks have said "databases" are the same as OLTP -- this isn't true. OLTP, again, is a TYPE of database.

Other types of "databases": Text files, XML, Excel, CSV..., Flat Files :-)

Remove URL parameters without refreshing page

To clear out all the parameters, without doing a page refresh, AND if you are using HTML5, then you can do this:

history.pushState({}, '', 'index.html' ); //replace 'index.html' with whatever your page name is

This will add an entry in the browser history. You could also consider replaceState if you don't wan't to add a new entry and just want to replace the old entry.

PHP, display image with Header()

Browsers can often tell the image type by sniffing out the meta information of the image. Also, there should be a space in that header:

header('Content-type: image/png');

SQL sum with condition

Try this instead:

SUM(CASE WHEN ValueDate > @startMonthDate THEN cash ELSE 0 END)

Explanation

Your CASE expression has incorrect syntax. It seems you are confusing the simple CASE expression syntax with the searched CASE expression syntax. See the documentation for CASE:

The CASE expression has two formats:

  • The simple CASE expression compares an expression to a set of simple expressions to determine the result.
  • The searched CASE expression evaluates a set of Boolean expressions to determine the result.

You want the searched CASE expression syntax:

CASE
     WHEN Boolean_expression THEN result_expression [ ...n ]
     [ ELSE else_result_expression ]
END

As a side note, if performance is an issue you may find that this expression runs more quickly if you rewrite using a JOIN and GROUP BY instead of using a dependent subquery.

Find a line in a file and remove it

Old question, but an easy way is to:

  • Iterate through file, adding each line to an new array list
  • iterate through the array, find matching String, then call the remove method.
  • iterate through array again, printing each line to the file, boolean for append should be false, which basically replaces the file

TypeError: $(...).DataTable is not a function

I ran into this error also. For whatever reason I had originally coded

var table = $('#myTable').DataTable({
    "paging": false,
    "order": [[ 4, "asc" ]]
});

This would not throw the error sometimes and other times it would. By changing code to

$('#myTable').DataTable({
    "paging": false,
    "order": [[ 4, "asc" ]]
});

Error appears to have stopped

Get RETURN value from stored procedure in SQL

The accepted answer is invalid with the double EXEC (only need the first EXEC):

DECLARE @returnvalue int;
EXEC @returnvalue = SP_SomeProc
PRINT @returnvalue

And you still need to call PRINT (at least in Visual Studio).

Why doesn't JUnit provide assertNotEquals methods?

The obvious reason that people wanted assertNotEquals() was to compare builtins without having to convert them to full blown objects first:

Verbose example:

....
assertThat(1, not(equalTo(Integer.valueOf(winningBidderId))));
....

vs.

assertNotEqual(1, winningBidderId);

Sadly since Eclipse doesn't include JUnit 4.11 by default you must be verbose.

Caveat I don't think the '1' needs to be wrapped in an Integer.valueOf() but since I'm newly returned from .NET don't count on my correctness.

Activity, AppCompatActivity, FragmentActivity, and ActionBarActivity: When to Use Which?

There is a lot of confusion here, especially if you read outdated sources.

The basic one is Activity, which can show Fragments. You can use this combination if you're on Android version > 4.

However, there is also a support library which encompasses the other classes you mentioned: FragmentActivity, ActionBarActivity and AppCompat. Originally they were used to support fragments on Android versions < 4, but actually they're also used to backport functionality from newer versions of Android (material design for example).

The latest one is AppCompat, the other 2 are older. The strategy I use is to always use AppCompat, so that the app will be ready in case of backports from future versions of Android.

How to use \n new line in VB msgbox() ...?

An alternative to Environment.NewLine is to use :

Regex.Unescape("\n\tHello World\n")

from System.Text.RegularExpressions

This allows you to escape Text without Concatenating strings as you can in C#, C, java

How to read line by line or a whole text file at once?

I think you could use istream .read() function. You can just loop with reasonable chunk size and read directly to memory buffer, then append it to some sort of arbitrary memory container (such as std::vector). I could write an example, but I doubt you want a complete solution; please let me know if you shall need any additional information.

How to echo or print an array in PHP?

There are multiple function to printing array content that each has features.

print_r()

Prints human-readable information about a variable.

$arr = ["a", "b", "c"];
echo "<pre>";
print_r($arr);
echo "</pre>";
Array
(
    [0] => a
    [1] => b
    [2] => c
)

var_dump()

Displays structured information about expressions that includes its type and value.

echo "<pre>";
var_dump($arr);
echo "</pre>";
array(3) {
  [0]=>
  string(1) "a"
  [1]=>
  string(1) "b"
  [2]=>
  string(1) "c"
}

var_export()

Displays structured information about the given variable that returned representation is valid PHP code.

echo "<pre>";
var_export($arr);
echo "</pre>";
array (
  0 => 'a',
  1 => 'b',
  2 => 'c',
)

Note that because browser condense multiple whitespace characters (including newlines) to a single space (answer) you need to wrap above functions in <pre></pre> to display result in correct format.

Also there is another way to printing array content with certain conditions.

echo

Output one or more strings. So if you want to print array content using echo, you need to loop through array and in loop use echo to printing array items.

foreach ($arr as $key=>$item){
    echo "$key => $item <br>";
}
0 => a
1 => b
2 => c

Left padding a String with Zeros

This will pad left any string to a total width of 10 without worrying about parse errors:

String unpadded = "12345";
String padded = "##########".substring(unpadded.length()) + unpadded;

//unpadded is "12345"
//padded   is "#####12345"

If you want to pad right:

String unpadded = "12345";
String padded = unpadded + "##########".substring(unpadded.length());

//unpadded is "12345"
//padded   is "12345#####"

You can replace the "#" characters with whatever character you would like to pad with, repeated the amount of times that you want the total width of the string to be. E.g. if you want to add zeros to the left so that the whole string is 15 characters long:

String unpadded = "12345";
String padded = "000000000000000".substring(unpadded.length()) + unpadded;

//unpadded is "12345"
//padded   is "000000000012345"

The benefit of this over khachik's answer is that this does not use Integer.parseInt, which can throw an Exception (for example, if the number you want to pad is too large like 12147483647). The disadvantage is that if what you're padding is already an int, then you'll have to convert it to a String and back, which is undesirable.

So, if you know for sure that it's an int, khachik's answer works great. If not, then this is a possible strategy.

PHP foreach loop key value

You can access your array keys like so:

foreach ($array as $key => $value)

How to import Swagger APIs into Postman?

  • Click on the orange button ("choose files")
  • Browse to the Swagger doc (swagger.yaml)
  • After selecting the file, a new collection gets created in POSTMAN. It will contain folders based on your endpoints.

You can also get some sample swagger files online to verify this(if you have errors in your swagger doc).

Microsoft Web API: How do you do a Server.MapPath?

Since Server.MapPath() does not exist within a Web Api (Soap or REST), you'll need to denote the local- relative to the web server's context- home directory. The easiest way to do so is with:

string AppContext.BaseDirectory { get;}

You can then use this to concatenate a path string to map the relative path to any file.
NOTE: string paths are \ and not / like they are in mvc.

Ex:

System.IO.File.Exists($"{**AppContext.BaseDirectory**}\\\\Content\\\\pics\\\\{filename}");

returns true- positing that this is a sound path in your example

how to open .mat file without using MATLAB?

You don't need to download any new software. You can use Octave Online to open .m files.

How to set Oracle's Java as the default Java in Ubuntu?

If you're doing any sort of development you need to point to the JDK (Java Development Kit). Otherwise, you can point to the JRE (Java Runtime Environment).

The JDK contains everything the JRE has and more. If you're just executing Java programs, you can point to either the JRE or the JDK.

You should set JAVA_HOME based on current Java you are using. readlink will print value of a symbolic link for current Java and sed will adjust it to JRE directory:

export JAVA_HOME=$(readlink -f /usr/bin/java | sed "s:bin/java::")

If you want to set up JAVA_HOME to JDK you should go up one folder more:

export JAVA_HOME=$(readlink -f /usr/bin/java | sed "s:jre/bin/java::")

How do I order my SQLITE database in descending order, for an android app?

SQLite ORDER BY clause is used to sort the data in an ascending or descending order, based on one or more columns. Cursor c = scoreDb.query(DATABASE_TABLE, rank, null, null, null, null, yourColumn+" DESC");

SQLiteDatabase db = this.getReadableDatabase();
    Cursor cursor = db.query(
            TABLE_NAME,
            rank,
            null,
            null,
            null,
            null,
            COLUMN + " DESC",
            null);

Import JavaScript file and call functions using webpack, ES6, ReactJS

import * as utils from './utils.js';

If you do the above, you will be able to use functions in utils.js as

utils.someFunction()

Log.INFO vs. Log.DEBUG

I usually try to use it like this:

  • DEBUG: Information interesting for Developers, when trying to debug a problem.
  • INFO: Information interesting for Support staff trying to figure out the context of a given error
  • WARN to FATAL: Problems and Errors depending on level of damage.

Using OpenGl with C#?

I think what @korona meant was since it's just a C API, you can consume it from C# directly with a heck of a lot of typing like this:

[DllImport("opengl32")]
public static extern void glVertex3f(float x, float y, float z);

You unfortunately would need to do this for every single OpenGL function you call, and is basically what Tao has done for you.

PHP Excel Header

Try this

header("Content-Type: application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.spreadsheetml.sheet");
header("Content-Disposition: attachment;filename=\"filename.xlsx\"");
header("Cache-Control: max-age=0");

Dump a list in a pickle file and retrieve it back later

Pickling will serialize your list (convert it, and it's entries to a unique byte string), so you can save it to disk. You can also use pickle to retrieve your original list, loading from the saved file.

So, first build a list, then use pickle.dump to send it to a file...

What is the difference between range and xrange functions in Python 2.X?

range creates a list, so if you do range(1, 10000000) it creates a list in memory with 10000000 elements. xrange is a generator, so it evaluates lazily.

This brings you two advantages:

  1. You can iterate longer lists without getting a MemoryError.
  2. As it resolves each number lazily, if you stop iteration early, you won't waste time creating the whole list.

Remove lines that contain certain string

to_skip = ("bad", "naughty")
out_handle = open("testout", "w")

with open("testin", "r") as handle:
    for line in handle:
        if set(line.split(" ")).intersection(to_skip):
            continue
        out_handle.write(line)
out_handle.close()

jQuery: If this HREF contains

You could just outright select the elements of interest.

$('a[href*="?"]').each(function() {
    alert('Contains question mark');
});

Note that you were using the attribute-ends-with selector, the above code uses the attribute-contains selector, which is what it sounds like you're actually aiming for.

Creating a new DOM element from an HTML string using built-in DOM methods or Prototype

Late but just as a note;

It's possible to add a trivial element to target element as a container and remove it after using.

// Tested on chrome 23.0, firefox 18.0, ie 7-8-9 and opera 12.11.

<div id="div"></div>

<script>
window.onload = function() {
    var foo, targetElement = document.getElementById('div')
    foo = document.createElement('foo')
    foo.innerHTML = '<a href="#" target="_self">Text of A 1.</a> '+
                    '<a href="#" onclick="return !!alert(this.innerHTML)">Text of <b>A 2</b>.</a> '+
                    '<hr size="1" />'
    // Append 'foo' element to target element
    targetElement.appendChild(foo)

    // Add event
    foo.firstChild.onclick = function() { return !!alert(this.target) }

    while (foo.firstChild) {
        // Also removes child nodes from 'foo'
        targetElement.insertBefore(foo.firstChild, foo)
    }
    // Remove 'foo' element from target element
    targetElement.removeChild(foo)
}
</script>

How to re-render flatlist?

How do I get a reference to the app delegate in Swift?

Here's an extension for UIApplicationDelegate that avoids hardcoding the AppDelegate class name:

extension UIApplicationDelegate {

    static var shared: Self {

}

// use like this:
let appDelegate = MyAppDelegate.shared // will be of type MyAppDelegate

Relationship between hashCode and equals method in Java

See JavaDoc of java.lang.Object

In hashCode() it says:

If two objects are equal according to the equals(Object) method, then calling the hashCode method on each of the two objects must produce the same integer result.

(Emphasis by me).

If you only override equals() and not hashCode() your class violates this contract.

This is also said in the JavaDoc of the equals() method:

Note that it is generally necessary to override the hashCode method whenever this method is overridden, so as to maintain the general contract for the hashCode method, which states that equal objects must have equal hash codes.

VB.NET: Clear DataGridView

The mistake that you are making is that you seem to be using a dataset object for storing your data. Each time you use the following code to put data into your dataset you add data to the data already in your dataset.

myDataAdapter.Fill(myDataSet)

If you assign the table in your dataset to a DataGridView object in your program by the following code you will get duplicate results because you have not cleared data which is already residing in your dataset and in your dataset table.

myDataGridView.DataSource = myDataSet.Tables(0)

To avoid replicating the data you have to call clear method on your dataset object.

myDataSet.clear()

An then assign the table in your dataset to your DataGridView object. The code is like this.

myDataSet.clear()
myDataAdapter.Fill(myDataSet)
myDataGridView.DataSource = myDataSet.Tables(0)

You can try this code:

' clear previous data
DataGridView2.DataSource = Nothing
DataGridView2.DataMember = Nothing
DataGridView2.Refresh()
Try
    connection.Open()
    adapter1 = New SqlDataAdapter(sql, connection)
    ' clear data already in the dataset
    ds1.Clear()
    adapter1.Fill(ds1)
    DataGridView2.DataSource = ds1.Tables(0)
    connection.Close()
Catch ex As Exception
    MsgBox(ex.ToString)
End Try

PHP import Excel into database (xls & xlsx)

Multiple cases in switch statement

In C# 7 we now have Pattern Matching so you can do something like:

switch (age)
{
  case 50:
    ageBlock = "the big five-oh";
    break;
  case var testAge when (new List<int>()
      { 80, 81, 82, 83, 84, 85, 86, 87, 88, 89 }).Contains(testAge):
    ageBlock = "octogenarian";
    break;
  case var testAge when ((testAge >= 90) & (testAge <= 99)):
    ageBlock = "nonagenarian";
    break;
  case var testAge when (testAge >= 100):
    ageBlock = "centenarian";
    break;
  default:
    ageBlock = "just old";
    break;
}

Is it better in C++ to pass by value or pass by constant reference?

As it has been pointed out, it depends on the type. For built-in data types, it is best to pass by value. Even some very small structures, such as a pair of ints can perform better by passing by value.

Here is an example, assume you have an integer value and you want pass it to another routine. If that value has been optimized to be stored in a register, then if you want to pass it be reference, it first must be stored in memory and then a pointer to that memory placed on the stack to perform the call. If it was being passed by value, all that is required is the register pushed onto the stack. (The details are a bit more complicated than that given different calling systems and CPUs).

If you are doing template programming, you are usually forced to always pass by const ref since you don't know the types being passed in. Passing penalties for passing something bad by value are much worse than the penalties of passing a built-in type by const ref.

Online SQL syntax checker conforming to multiple databases

You could try a formatter like this

They will always be limited because they don't (and can't) know what user defined functions you may have defined in your database (or which built-in functions you have or don't have access to).

You could also look at ANTLR (but that would be an offline solution)

DatabaseError: current transaction is aborted, commands ignored until end of transaction block?

In response to @priestc and @Sebastian, what if you do something like this?

try:
    conn.commit()
except:
    pass

cursor.execute( sql )
try:
    return cursor.fetchall()
except:
    conn.commit()
    return None

I just tried this code and it seems to work, failing silently without having to care about any possible errors, and working when the query is good.

How to change the colors of a PNG image easily?

This should be fairly straightforward in the gimp http://gimp.org/

First make sure your image is RGB (not indexed color) then use the "color to alpha" feature to turn the clubs/diamonds clear, then fill or set the background or whatever to get the color you want.

What is the best way to filter a Java Collection?

This, combined with the lack of real closures, is my biggest gripe for Java. Honestly, most of the methods mentioned above are pretty easy to read and REALLY efficient; however, after spending time with .Net, Erlang, etc... list comprehension integrated at the language level makes everything so much cleaner. Without additions at the language level, Java just cant be as clean as many other languages in this area.

If performance is a huge concern, Google collections is the way to go (or write your own simple predicate utility). Lambdaj syntax is more readable for some people, but it is not quite as efficient.

And then there is a library I wrote. I will ignore any questions in regard to its efficiency (yea, its that bad)...... Yes, i know its clearly reflection based, and no I don't actually use it, but it does work:

LinkedList<Person> list = ......
LinkedList<Person> filtered =
           Query.from(list).where(Condition.ensure("age", Op.GTE, 21));

OR

LinkedList<Person> list = ....
LinkedList<Person> filtered = Query.from(list).where("x => x.age >= 21");

How to dynamically build a JSON object with Python?

  • json.loads take a string as input and returns a dictionary as output.
  • json.dumps take a dictionary as input and returns a string as output.

If you need to convert JSON data into a python object, it can do so with Python3, in one line without additional installations, using SimpleNamespace and object_hook:

from string

import json
from types import SimpleNamespace

string = '{"foo":3, "bar":{"x":1, "y":2}}'

# Parse JSON into an object with attributes corresponding to dict keys.
x = json.loads(string, object_hook=lambda d: SimpleNamespace(**d))

print(x.foo)
print(x.bar.x)
print(x.bar.y)

output:

3
1
2

from file:

JSON object: data.json

{
    "foo": 3,
    "bar": {
        "x": 1,
        "y": 2
    }
}
import json
from types import SimpleNamespace

with open("data.json") as fh:

Where do I find the Instagram media ID of a image

Here's an even better way:

No API calls! And I threw in converting a media_id to a shortcode as an added bonus.

Based on slang's amazing work for figuring out the conversion. Nathan's work converting base10 to base64 in php. And rgbflawed's work converting it back the other way (with a modified alphabet). #teameffort

function mediaid_to_shortcode($mediaid){

    if(strpos($mediaid, '_') !== false){
        $pieces = explode('_', $mediaid);
        $mediaid = $pieces[0];
        $userid = $pieces[1];
    }

    $alphabet = 'ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZabcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz0123456789-_';
    $shortcode = '';
    while($mediaid > 0){
        $remainder = $mediaid % 64;
        $mediaid = ($mediaid-$remainder) / 64;
        $shortcode = $alphabet{$remainder} . $shortcode;
    };

    return $shortcode;

}

function shortcode_to_mediaid($shortcode){

    $alphabet='ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZabcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz0123456789-_';

    $mediaid = 0;

    foreach(str_split($shortcode) as $letter) {
        $mediaid = ($mediaid*64) + strpos($alphabet, $letter);
    }

    return $mediaid;

How do I loop through a date range?

I have a Range class in MiscUtil which you could find useful. Combined with the various extension methods, you could do:

foreach (DateTime date in StartDate.To(EndDate).ExcludeEnd()
                                   .Step(DayInterval.Days())
{
    // Do something with the date
}

(You may or may not want to exclude the end - I just thought I'd provide it as an example.)

This is basically a ready-rolled (and more general-purpose) form of mquander's solution.

Accessing an SQLite Database in Swift

Configure your Swift project to handle SQLite C calls:

Create bridging header file to the project. See the Importing Objective-C into Swift section of the Using Swift with Cocoa and Objective-C. This bridging header should import sqlite3.h:

Add the libsqlite3.0.dylib to your project. See Apple's documentation regarding adding library/framework to one's project.

How can I add spaces between two <input> lines using CSS?

You can also wrap your text in label fields, so your form will be more self-explainable semantically.

Just remember to float labels and inputs to the left and to add a specific width to them, and the containing form. Then you can add margins to both of them, to adjust the spacing between the lines (you understand, of course, that this is a pretty minimal markup that expects content to be as big as to some limit).

That way you wont have to add any more elements, just the label-input pairs, all of them wrapped in a form element.

For example:

<form>
<label for="txtName">Name</label>
<input id"txtName" type="text">
<label for="txtEmail">Email</label>
<input id"txtEmail" type="text">
<label for="txtAddress">Address</label>
<input id"txtAddress" type="text">
...
<input type="submit" value="Submit The Form">
</form>

And the css will be:

form{
float:left; /*to clear the floats of inner elements,usefull if you wanna add a border or background image*/
width:300px;
}
label{
float:left;
width:150px;
margin-bottom:10px; /*or whatever you want the spacing to be*/
}
input{
float:left;
width:150px;
margin-bottom:10px; /*or whatever you want the spacing to be*/
}

Why is my method undefined for the type object?

The line

Object EchoServer0;

says that you are allocating an Object named EchoServer0. This has nothing to do with the class EchoServer0. Furthermore, the object is not initialized, so EchoServer0 is null. Classes and identifiers have separate namespaces. This will actually compile:

String String = "abc"; // My use of String String was deliberate.

Please keep to the Java naming standards: classes begin with a capital letter, identifiers begin with a small letter, constants and enums are all-capitals.

public final String ME = "Eric Jablow";
public final double GAMMA = 0.5772;
public enum Color { RED, ORANGE, YELLOW, GREEN, BLUE, INDIGO, VIOLET}
public COLOR background = Color.RED;

Django DoesNotExist

What, why or when it is better to choose cshtml vs aspx?

What is a MIME type?

I couldn't possibly explain it better than wikipedia does: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MIME_type

In addition to e-mail applications, Web browsers also support various MIME types. This enables the browser to display or output files that are not in HTML format.

IOW, it helps the browser (or content consumer, because it may not just be a browser) determine what content they are about to consume; this means a browser may be able to make a decision on the correct plugin to use to display content, or a media player may be able to load up the correct codec or plugin.

Binding arrow keys in JS/jQuery

       return false;

What is the maximum length of a valid email address?

user

The maximum total length of a user name is 64 characters.

domain

Maximum of 255 characters in the domain part (the one after the “@”)

However, there is a restriction in RFC 2821 reading:

The maximum total length of a reverse-path or forward-path is 256 characters, including the punctuation and element separators”. Since addresses that don’t fit in those fields are not normally useful, the upper limit on address lengths should normally be considered to be 256, but a path is defined as: Path = “<” [ A-d-l “:” ] Mailbox “>” The forward-path will contain at least a pair of angle brackets in addition to the Mailbox, which limits the email address to 254 characters.

How can I display the current branch and folder path in terminal?

The git package installed on your system includes bash files to aid you in creating an informative prompt. To create colors, you will need to insert terminal escape sequences into your prompt. And, the final ingredient is to update your prompt after each command gets executed by using the built-in variable PROMPT_COMMAND.

Edit your ~/.bashrc to include the following, and you should get the prompt in your question, modulo some color differences.

#
# Git provides a bash file to create an informative prompt. This is its standard
# location on Linux. On Mac, you should be able to find it under your Git
# installation. If you are unable to find the file, I have a copy of it on my GitHub.

#

#
# Next, we need to define some terminal escape sequences for colors. For a fuller
# list of colors, and an example how to use them, see my bash color file on my GitHub
# and my coniguration for colored man pages.

# To get a fancy git prompt, it's not sufficient to set PS1. Instead, we set PROMPT_COMMAND,
# a built in Bash variable that gets evaluated before each render of the prompt.
#

How do you import classes in JSP?

In case you use JSTL and you wish to import a class in a tag page instead of a jsp page, the syntax is a little bit different. Replace the word 'page' with the word 'tag'.

<%@page import="path.to.your.class"%>

use

<%@tag import="path.to.your.class"%>

Can't check signature: public key not found

You get that error because you don't have the public key of the person who signed the message.

gpg should have given you a message containing the ID of the key that was used to sign it. Obtain the public key from the person who encrypted the file and import it into your keyring (gpg2 --import key.asc); you should be able to verify the signature after that.

If the sender submitted its public key to a keyserver (for instance, https://pgp.mit.edu/), then you may be able to import the key directly from the keyserver:

gpg2 --keyserver https://pgp.mit.edu/ --search-keys <sender_name_or_address>

SLF4J: Failed to load class "org.slf4j.impl.StaticLoggerBinder". error

This is not an error message but a warning. It is very clearly explained in their website as :

This warning, i.e. not an error, message is reported when no SLF4J providers could be found on the class path. Placing one (and only one) of slf4j-nop.jar slf4j-simple.jar, slf4j-log4j12.jar, slf4j-jdk14.jar or logback-classic.jar on the class path should solve the problem. Note that these providers must target slf4j-api 1.8 or later.

In the absence of a provider, SLF4J will default to a no-operation (NOP) logger provider.

C# Clear Session

In ASP.NET, when should I use Session.Clear() rather than Session.Abandon()?

Session.Abandon() destroys the session and the Session_OnEnd event is triggered.

Session.Clear() just removes all values (content) from the Object. The session with the same key is still alive.

So, if you use Session.Abandon(), you lose that specific session and the user will get a new session key. You could use it for example when the user logs out.

Use Session.Clear(), if you want that the user remaining in the same session (if you don't want him to relogin for example) and reset all his session specific data.

What is the difference between Session.Abandon() and Session.Clear()

Clear - Removes all keys and values from the session-state collection.

Abandon - removes all the objects stored in a Session. If you do not call the Abandon method explicitly, the server removes these objects and destroys the session when the session times out. It also raises events like Session_End.

Session.Clear can be compared to removing all books from the shelf, while Session.Abandon is more like throwing away the whole shelf.

...

Generally, in most cases you need to use Session.Clear. You can use Session.Abandon if you are sure the user is going to leave your site.

So back to the differences:

  • Abandon raises Session_End request.
  • Clear removes items immediately, Abandon does not.
  • Abandon releases the SessionState object and its items so it can garbage collected.
  • Clear keeps SessionState and resources associated with it.

Session.Clear() or Session.Abandon() ?

You use Session.Clear() when you don't want to end the session but rather just clear all the keys in the session and reinitialize the session.

Session.Clear() will not cause the Session_End eventhandler in your Global.asax file to execute.

But on the other hand Session.Abandon() will remove the session altogether and will execute Session_End eventhandler.

Session.Clear() is like removing books from the bookshelf

Session.Abandon() is like throwing the bookshelf itself.

Question

I check on some sessions if not equal null in the page load. if one of them equal null i wanna to clear all the sessions and redirect to the login page?

Answer

If you want the user to login again, use Session.Abandon.

How to increment an iterator by 2?

The very simple answer:

++++iter

The long answer:

You really should get used to writing ++iter instead of iter++. The latter must return (a copy of) the old value, which is different from the new value; this takes time and space.

Note that prefix increment (++iter) takes an lvalue and returns an lvalue, whereas postfix increment (iter++) takes an lvalue and returns an rvalue.

"detached entity passed to persist error" with JPA/EJB code

ERD

Let's say you have two entities Album and Photo. Album contains many photos, so it's a one to many relationship.

Album class

@Entity
public class Album {
    @Id
    @GeneratedValue(strategy=GenerationType.AUTO)
    Integer albumId;

    String albumName;

    @OneToMany(targetEntity=Photo.class,mappedBy="album",cascade={CascadeType.ALL},orphanRemoval=true)
    Set<Photo> photos = new HashSet<Photo>();
}

Photo class

@Entity
public class Photo{
    @Id
    @GeneratedValue(strategy=GenerationType.AUTO)
    Integer photo_id;

    String photoName;

    @ManyToOne(targetEntity=Album.class)
    @JoinColumn(name="album_id")
    Album album;

}

What you have to do before persist or merge is to set the Album reference in each photos.

        Album myAlbum = new Album();
        Photo photo1 = new Photo();
        Photo photo2 = new Photo();

        photo1.setAlbum(myAlbum);
        photo2.setAlbum(myAlbum);

That is how to attach the related entity before you persist or merge.

How can I print a circular structure in a JSON-like format?

I resolve this problem like this:

// Generate almost valid JS object definition code (typeof string)

// Fix code to the valid state (in this example it is not required, but my object was huge and complex, and I needed this for my case)
str = str
    .replace(/<Buffer[ \w\.]+>/ig, '"buffer"')
    .replace(/\[Function]/ig, 'function(){}')
    .replace(/\[Circular]/ig, '"Circular"')
    .replace(/\{ \[Function: ([\w]+)]/ig, '{ $1: function $1 () {},')
    .replace(/\[Function: ([\w]+)]/ig, 'function $1(){}')
    .replace(/(\w+): ([\w :]+GMT\+[\w \(\)]+),/ig, '$1: new Date("$2"),')
    .replace(/(\S+): ,/ig, '$1: null,');

How do I run a class in a WAR from the command line?

It's not possible to run a java class from a WAR file. WAR files have a different structure to Jar files.

To find the related java classes, export (preferred way to use ant) them as Jar put it in your web app lib.

Then you can use the jar file as normal to run java program. The same jar was also referred in web app (if you put this jar in web app lib)

Swift Alamofire: How to get the HTTP response status code

Your error indicates that the operation is being cancelled for some reason. I'd need more details to understand why. But I think the bigger issue may be that since your endpoint https://host.com/a/path is bogus, there is no real server response to report, and hence you're seeing nil.

If you hit up a valid endpoint that serves up a proper response, you should see a non-nil value for res (using the techniques Sam mentions) in the form of a NSURLHTTPResponse object with properties like statusCode, etc.

Also, just to be clear, error is of type NSError. It tells you why the network request failed. The status code of the failure on the server side is actually a part of the response.

Hope that helps answer your main question.

How to remove default chrome style for select Input?

When looking at an input with a type of number, you'll notice the spinner buttons (up/down) on the right-hand side of the input field. These spinners aren't always desirable, thus the code below removes such styling to render an input that resembles that of an input with a type of text.

enter image description here

input[type=number]::-webkit-inner-spin-button,
input[type=number]::-webkit-outer-spin-button {
  -webkit-appearance: none;

How to sort a Ruby Hash by number value?

No idea how you got your results, since it would not sort by string value... You should reverse a1 and a2 in your example

Best way in any case (as per Mladen) is:

metrics = {"sitea.com" => 745, "siteb.com" => 9, "sitec.com" => 10 }
metrics.sort_by {|_key, value| value}
  # ==> [["siteb.com", 9], ["sitec.com", 10], ["sitea.com", 745]]

If you need a hash as a result, you can use to_h (in Ruby 2.0+)

metrics.sort_by {|_key, value| value}.to_h
  # ==> {"siteb.com" => 9, "sitec.com" => 10, "sitea.com", 745}

Difference between scaling horizontally and vertically for databases

Adding lots of load balancers creates extra overhead and latency and that is the drawback for scaling out horizontally in nosql databases. It is like the question why people say RPC is not recommended since it is not robust.

I think in a real system we should use both sql and nosql databases to utilize both multicore and cloud computing capabilities of today's systems.

On the other hand, complex transactional queries has high performance if sql databases such as oracle being used. NoSql could be used for bigdata and horizontal scalability by sharding.

jQuery same click event for multiple elements

I have a link to an object containig many input fields, which requires to be handled by the same event. So I simply use find() to get all the inside objects, that need to have the event

var form = $('<form></form>');
// ... apending several input fields

form.find('input').on('change', onInputChange);

In case your objects are one level down the link children() instead find() method can be used.

JCheckbox - ActionListener and ItemListener?

Both ItemListener as well as ActionListener, in case of JCheckBox have the same behaviour. However, major difference is ItemListener can be triggered by calling the setSelected(true) on the checkbox. As a coding practice do not register both ItemListener as well as ActionListener with the JCheckBox, in order to avoid inconsistency.

Epoch vs Iteration when training neural networks

In the neural network terminology:

  • one epoch = one forward pass and one backward pass of all the training examples
  • batch size = the number of training examples in one forward/backward pass. The higher the batch size, the more memory space you'll need.
  • number of iterations = number of passes, each pass using [batch size] number of examples. To be clear, one pass = one forward pass + one backward pass (we do not count the forward pass and backward pass as two different passes).

Example: if you have 1000 training examples, and your batch size is 500, then it will take 2 iterations to complete 1 epoch.

FYI: Tradeoff batch size vs. number of iterations to train a neural network

The term "batch" is ambiguous: some people use it to designate the entire training set, and some people use it to refer to the number of training examples in one forward/backward pass (as I did in this answer). To avoid that ambiguity and make clear that batch corresponds to the number of training examples in one forward/backward pass, one can use the term mini-batch.

Checking if an object is null in C#

As of C# 8 you can use the 'empty' property pattern (with pattern matching) to ensure an object is not null:

if (obj is { })
{
    // 'obj' is not null here
}

This approach means "if the object references an instance of something" (i.e. it's not null).

You can think of this as the opposite of: if (obj is null).... which will return true when the object does not reference an instance of something.

For more info on patterns in C# 8.0 read here.

how to get the value of css style using jquery

I doubt css understands left by itself. You need to use it specifying position. You are using .css() correctly

position: relative/absolute/whatever;
left: 900px;

heres a fiddle of it working

http://jsfiddle.net/gFLZe/

and without the position here's what you get

http://jsfiddle.net/gkkm5/

Change your if statement to be like this - with quotes around -900px

var n = $("items").css("left");

if(n == '-900px'){
    $(".items span").fadeOut("slow");
}

Click anywhere in chrome window and type thisisunsafe (instead of badidea previously) in chrome.

This passphrase may change in future. This is the source

https://chromium.googlesource.com/chromium/src/+/master/components/security_interstitials/core/browser/resources/interstitial_large.js#19

How to present a modal atop the current view in Swift

The only problem I can see in your code is that you are using CurrentContext instead of OverCurrentContext.

So, replace this:

self.modalPresentationStyle = UIModalPresentationStyle.CurrentContext
self.navigationController.modalPresentationStyle = UIModalPresentationStyle.CurrentContext

for this:

self.modalPresentationStyle = UIModalPresentationStyle.OverCurrentContext
self.navigationController.modalPresentationStyle = UIModalPresentationStyle.OverCurrentContext

How to add icon inside EditText view in Android ?

Use a relative layout and set the button the be align left of the edit text view, and set the left padding of your text view to the size of your button. I can't think of a good way to do it without hard coding the padding :/

You can also use apk tool to sorta unzip the facebook apk and take a look at its layout files.

ASP.Net MVC: Calling a method from a view

Building on Amine's answer, create a helper like:

public static class HtmlHelperExtensions
{
    public static MvcHtmlString CurrencyFormat(this HtmlHelper helper, string value)
    {
        var result = string.Format("{0:C2}", value);
        return new MvcHtmlString(result);
    }
}

in your view: use @Html.CurrencyFormat(model.value)

If you are doing simple formating like Standard Numeric Formats, then simple use string.Format() in your view like in the helper example above:

@string.Format("{0:C2}", model.value)

How do I get a class instance of generic type T?

As explained in other answers, to use this ParameterizedType approach, you need to extend the class, but that seems like extra work to make a whole new class that extends it...

So, making the class abstract it forces you to extend it, thus satisfying the subclassing requirement. (using lombok's @Getter).

@Getter
public abstract class ConfigurationDefinition<T> {

    private Class<T> type;
    ...

    public ConfigurationDefinition(...) {
        this.type = (Class<T>) ((ParameterizedType) this.getClass().getGenericSuperclass()).getActualTypeArguments()[0];
        ...
    }
}

Now to extend it without defining a new class. (Note the {} on the end... extended, but don't overwrite anything - unless you want to).

private ConfigurationDefinition<String> myConfigA = new ConfigurationDefinition<String>(...){};
private ConfigurationDefinition<File> myConfigB = new ConfigurationDefinition<File>(...){};
...
Class stringType = myConfigA.getType();
Class fileType = myConfigB.getType();

Populating VBA dynamic arrays

I see many (all) posts above relying on LBound/UBound calls upon yet potentially uninitialized VBA dynamic array, what causes application's inevitable death ...

Erratic code:

Dim x As Long Dim arr1() As SomeType ... x = UBound(arr1) 'crashes

Correct code:

Dim x As Long Dim arr1() As SomeType ... ReDim Preserve arr1(0 To 0) ... x = UBound(arr1)

... i.e. any code where Dim arr1() is followed immediatelly by LBound(arr1)/UBound(arr1) calls without ReDim arr1(...) in between, crashes. The roundabout is to employ an On Error Resume Next and check the Err.Number right after the LBound(arr1)/UBound(arr1) call - it should be 0 if the array is initialized, otherwise non-zero. As there is some VBA built-in misbehavior, the further check of array's limits is needed. Detailed explanation may everybody read at Chip Pearson's website (which should be celebrated as a Mankind Treasure Of VBA Wisdom ...)

Heh, that's my first post, believe it is legible.

How do I read a large csv file with pandas?

Before using chunksize option if you want to be sure about the process function that you want to write inside the chunking for-loop as mentioned by @unutbu you can simply use nrows option.

small_df = pd.read_csv(filename, nrows=100)

Once you are sure that the process block is ready, you can put that in the chunking for loop for the entire dataframe.

using jQuery .animate to animate a div from right to left?

I think the reason it doesn't work has something to do with the fact that you have the right position set, but not the left.

If you manually set the left to the current position, it seems to go:

Live example: http://jsfiddle.net/XqqtN/

var left = $('#coolDiv').offset().left; // Get the calculated left position

$("#coolDiv").css({left:left}) // Set the left to its calculated position
             .animate({"left":"0px"}, "slow");

EDIT:

Appears as though Firefox behaves as expected because its calculated left position is available as the correct value in pixels, whereas Webkit based browsers, and apparently IE, return a value of auto for the left position.

Because auto is not a starting position for an animation, the animation effectively runs from 0 to 0. Not very interesting to watch. :o)

Setting the left position manually before the animate as above fixes the issue.

If you don't like cluttering the landscape with variables, here's a nice version of the same thing that obviates the need for a variable:

$("#coolDiv").css('left', function(){ return $(this).offset().left; })
             .animate({"left":"0px"}, "slow");    ?

Cannot set content-type to 'application/json' in jQuery.ajax

I got the solution to send the JSON data by POST request through jquery ajax. I used below code

    var data = new Object();
    data.p_clientId = 4;
    data =  JSON.stringify(data);

    $.ajax({
      method: "POST",
      url: "http://192.168.1.141:8090/api/Client_Add",
      data: data,
      headers: {
        'Accept': 'application/json',
        'Content-Type': 'text/plain'
    }
    })
      .done(function( msg ) {
        alert( "Data Saved: " + msg );
      });

        });
    });

I used 'Content-Type': 'text/plain' in header to send the raw json data.
Because if we use Content-Type: 'application/json' the request methods converted to OPTION, but using Content-Type: 'test/plain' the method does not get converted and remain as POST. Hopefully this will help some one.

Is there a way to have printf() properly print out an array (of floats, say)?

You have to loop through the array and printf() each element:

}

printf("\n");

Installed SSL certificate in certificate store, but it's not in IIS certificate list

I ran into this problem today. Due to the timeframe and some other issues, getting the key from the provider was not possible.

I found the following solution here (under pixelloa's comment) and thought it would be good to have the answer on Stack Overflow as well.

If the certificate does not have a private key, you can fix this by doing the following:

To fix this, use the MMC snapin to import the cert into PERSONAL store of the computer account, click it and grab the serial # line. Go to dos, run certutil -repairstore my "paste the serial # in here" (you need the quotes unless you remove the spaces from the serial number) then refresh MMC with personal certs, right click it - export - select everything except DELETE PRIVATE KEY, hit ok. Then go to IIS and IMPORT cert instead of finish request.

For what it's worth, all I actually had to do was run the certutil -repairstore command, and my certificate worked. I did run the export and set a password for the export itself, but I did not have to reimport the certificate. The certificate now shows up in IIS's list of certificates and can be used for HTTPS bindings.

I hope this helped someone.

Extract XML Value in bash script

XMLStarlet or another XPath engine is the correct tool for this job.

For instance, with data.xml containing the following:

<root>
  <item>
    <title>15:54:57 - George:</title>
    <description>Diane DeConn? You saw Diane DeConn!</description>
  </item>
  <item>
    <title>15:55:17 - Jerry:</title>
    <description>Something huh?</description>
  </item>
</root>

...you can extract only the first title with the following:

xmlstarlet sel -t -m '//title[1]' -v . -n <data.xml

Trying to use sed for this job is troublesome. For instance, the regex-based approaches won't work if the title has attributes; won't handle CDATA sections; won't correctly recognize namespace mappings; can't determine whether a portion of the XML documented is commented out; won't unescape attribute references (such as changing Brewster &amp; Jobs to Brewster & Jobs), and so forth.

What's the difference between isset() and array_key_exists()?

Answer to an old question as no answer here seem to address the 'warning' problem (explanation follows)

Basically, in this case of checking if a key exists in an array, isset

  • tells if the expression (array) is defined, and the key is set
  • no warning or error if the var is not defined, not an array ...
  • but returns false if the value for that key is null

and array_key_exists

  • tells if a key exists in an array as the name implies
  • but gives a warning if the array parameter is not an array

So how do we check if a key exists which value may be null in a variable

  • that may or may not be an array
  • (or similarly is a multidimensional array for which the key check happens at dim 2 and dim 1 value may not be an array for the 1st dim (etc...))

without getting a warning, without missing the existing key when its value is null (what were the PHP devs thinking would also be an interesting question, but certainly not relevant on SO). And of course we don't want to use @

isset($var[$key]); // silent but misses null values
array_key_exists($key, $var); // works but warning if $var not defined/array

It seems is_array should be involved in the equation, but it gives a warning if $var is not defined, so that could be a solution:

if (isset($var[$key]) ||
    isset($var) && is_array($var) && array_key_exists($key, $var)) ...

which is likely to be faster if the tests are mainly on non-null values. Otherwise for an array with mostly null values

if (isset($var) && is_array($var) && array_key_exists($key, $var)) ...

will do the work.

How to declare a global variable in php?

Let's think a little different, You can use static parameters:

class global {
    static $foo = "bar";
}

And you can use and modify it every where you like, like:

function func() {
    echo global::$foo;
}

1052: Column 'id' in field list is ambiguous

The simplest solution is a join with USING instead of ON. That way, the database "knows" that both id columns are actually the same, and won't nitpick on that:

SELECT id, name, section
  FROM tbl_names
  JOIN tbl_section USING (id)

If id is the only common column name in tbl_names and tbl_section, you can even use a NATURAL JOIN:

SELECT id, name, section
  FROM tbl_names
  NATURAL JOIN tbl_section

String.Format for Hex

If we have built in functions to convert your integer values to COLOR then why to worry.

string hexValue = string.Format("{0:X}", intColor);

Color brushes = System.Drawing.ColorTranslator.FromHtml("#"+hexValue);

Is there any "font smoothing" in Google Chrome?

Ok you can use this simply

-webkit-text-stroke-width: .7px;
-webkit-text-stroke-color: #34343b;
-webkit-font-smoothing:antialiased;

Make sure your text color and upper text-stroke-width must me same and that's it.

How to use order by with union all in sql?

SELECT  *
FROM
        (
            SELECT * FROM TABLE_A
            UNION ALL
            SELECT * FROM TABLE_B
        ) dum
-- ORDER BY .....

but if you want to have all records from Table_A on the top of the result list, the you can add user define value which you can use for ordering,

SELECT  *
FROM
        (
            SELECT *, 1 sortby FROM TABLE_A
            UNION ALL
            SELECT *, 2 sortby FROM TABLE_B
        ) dum
ORDER   BY sortby

Why is my CSS bundling not working with a bin deployed MVC4 app?

With Visual Studio 2015 I found the problem was caused by referencing the .min version of a javascript file in the BundleConfig when debug=true is set in the web.config.

For example, with jquery specifying the following in BundleConfig:

bundles.Add(new ScriptBundle("~/bundles/jquery").Include("~/Scripts/jquery-{version}.min.js"));

resulted in the jquery not loading correctly at all when debug=true was set in the web.config.

Referencing the un-minified version:

bundles.Add(new ScriptBundle("~/bundles/jquery").Include("~/Scripts/jquery-{version}.js"));

corrects the problem.

Setting debug=false also corrects the problem, but of course that is not exactly helpful.

It is also worth noting that while some minified javascript files loaded correctly and others did not. I ended up removing all minified javascript files in favor of VS handling minification for me.

Access-Control-Allow-Origin: * in tomcat

Try this.

1.write a custom filter

    package com.dtd.util;

    import javax.servlet.*;
    import javax.servlet.http.HttpServletResponse;
    import java.io.IOException;

    public class CORSFilter implements Filter {

        @Override
        public void init(FilterConfig filterConfig) throws ServletException {

        }

        @Override
        public void doFilter(ServletRequest servletRequest, ServletResponse servletResponse, FilterChain filterChain) throws IOException, ServletException {
            HttpServletResponse httpResponse = (HttpServletResponse) servletResponse;
            httpResponse.addHeader("Access-Control-Allow-Origin", "*");
            filterChain.doFilter(servletRequest, servletResponse);
        }

        @Override
        public void destroy() {

        }
    }

2.add to web.xml

<filter>
    <filter-name>CorsFilter</filter-name>
    <filter-class>com.dtd.util.CORSFilter</filter-class>
</filter>

<filter-mapping>
    <filter-name>CorsFilter</filter-name>
    <url-pattern>/*</url-pattern>

How do I replace part of a string in PHP?

This is probably what you need:

$text = str_replace(' ', '_', substr($text, 0, 10));

Postgresql tables exists, but getting "relation does not exist" when querying

In my case, the dump file I restored had these commands.

CREATE SCHEMA employees;
SET search_path = employees, pg_catalog;

I've commented those and restored again. The issue got resolved

How to force keyboard with numbers in mobile website in Android

<input type="number" />
<input type="tel" />

Both of these present the numeric keypad when the input gains focus.

<input type="search" /> shows a normal keyboard with an extra search button

Everything else seems to bring up the standard keyboard.

Space between two divs

You can try something like the following:

h1{
   margin-bottom:<x>px;
}
div{
   margin-bottom:<y>px;
}
div:last-of-type{
   margin-bottom:0;
}

or instead of the first h1 rule:

div:first-of-type{
   margin-top:<x>px;
}

or even better use the adjacent sibling selector. With the following selector, you could cover your case in one rule:

div + div{
   margin-bottom:<y>px;
}

Respectively, h1 + div would control the first div after your header, giving you additional styling options.

Remove characters after specific character in string, then remove substring?

Here's another simple solution. The following code will return everything before the '|' character:

if (path.Contains('|'))
   path = path.Split('|')[0];

In fact, you could have as many separators as you want, but assuming you only have one separation character, here is how you would get everything after the '|':

if (path.Contains('|'))
   path = path.Split('|')[1];

(All I changed in the second piece of code was the index of the array.)

How do I log a Python error with debug information?

A little bit of decorator treatment (very loosely inspired by the Maybe monad and lifting). You can safely remove Python 3.6 type annotations and use an older message formatting style.

fallible.py

from functools import wraps
from typing import Callable, TypeVar, Optional
import logging

A = TypeVar('A')

def fallible(*exceptions, logger=None) \
        -> Callable[[Callable[..., A]], Callable[..., Optional[A]]]:
    """
    :param exceptions: a list of exceptions to catch
    :param logger: pass a custom logger; None means the default logger,
                   False disables logging altogether.
    """
    def fwrap(f: Callable[..., A]) -> Callable[..., Optional[A]]:

        @wraps(f)
        def wrapped(*args, **kwargs):
            try:
                return f(*args, **kwargs)
            except exceptions:
                message = f'called {f} with *args={args} and **kwargs={kwargs}'
                if logger:
                    logger.exception(message)
                if logger is None:
                    logging.exception(message)
                return None

        return wrapped

    return fwrap

Demo:

In [1] from fallible import fallible

In [2]: @fallible(ArithmeticError)
    ...: def div(a, b):
    ...:     return a / b
    ...:
    ...:

In [3]: div(1, 2)
Out[3]: 0.5

In [4]: res = div(1, 0)
ERROR:root:called <function div at 0x10d3c6ae8> with *args=(1, 0) and **kwargs={}
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/Users/user/fallible.py", line 17, in wrapped
    return f(*args, **kwargs)
  File "<ipython-input-17-e056bd886b5c>", line 3, in div
    return a / b

In [5]: repr(res)
'None'

You can also modify this solution to return something a bit more meaningful than None from the except part (or even make the solution generic, by specifying this return value in fallible's arguments).

Angular2 set value for formGroup

To set all FormGroup values use, setValue:

this.myFormGroup.setValue({
  formControlName1: myValue1,
  formControlName2: myValue2
});

To set only some values, use patchValue:

this.myFormGroup.patchValue({
  formControlName1: myValue1,
  // formControlName2: myValue2 (can be omitted)
});

With this second technique, not all values need to be supplied and fields whos values were not set will not be affected.

Git:nothing added to commit but untracked files present

Please Follow this process

First of all install git bash and create a repository on git

1) Go to working directory where the file exist which you want to push on remote and create .git folder by

$ git init

2) Add the files in your new local repository.

$ git add .

Note: while you are in same folder make sure you have placed dot after command if you putting path or not putting dot that will create ambiguity

3) Commit the files that you've staged in your local repository.

$ git commit -m "First commit"**

4) after this go to git repository and copy remote URL

$ git remote add origin *remote repository URL

5)

$ git remote -v

Note: this will ask for user.email and user.name just put it as per config

6)

$ git push origin master

this will push whole committed code to FILE.git on repository

How do I get the APK of an installed app without root access?

You don't need ROOT permissions to get the list of Installed Apps.

You can do it with android PackageManager.

Below is a small code snippet.

final PackageManager pm = getPackageManager();
//get a list of installed apps.
List<ApplicationInfo> packages =  pm.getInstalledApplications(PackageManager.GET_META_DATA);

for (ApplicationInfo packageInfo : packages) {
    Log.d(TAG, "Installed package :" + packageInfo.packageName);
    Log.d(TAG, "Apk file path:" + packageInfo.sourceDir);
}

dropping rows from dataframe based on a "not in" condition

You can use Series.isin:

df = df[~df.datecolumn.isin(a)]

While the error message suggests that all() or any() can be used, they are useful only when you want to reduce the result into a single Boolean value. That is however not what you are trying to do now, which is to test the membership of every values in the Series against the external list, and keep the results intact (i.e., a Boolean Series which will then be used to slice the original DataFrame).

You can read more about this in the Gotchas.

nginx: how to create an alias url route?

server {
  server_name example.com;
  root /path/to/root;
  location / {
    # bla bla
  }
  location /demo {
    alias /path/to/root/production/folder/here;
  }
}

If you need to use try_files inside /demo you'll need to replace alias with a root and do a rewrite because of the bug explained here

Split and join C# string

You can split and join the string, but why not use substrings? Then you only end up with one split instead of splitting the string into 5 parts and re-joining it. The end result is the same, but the substring is probably a bit faster.

string lcStart = "Some Very Large String Here";
int lnSpace = lcStart.IndexOf(' ');

if (lnSpace > -1)
{
    string lcFirst = lcStart.Substring(0, lnSpace);
    string lcRest = lcStart.Substring(lnSpace + 1);
}

Catching nullpointerexception in Java

The problem with your code is in your loop in Check_Circular. You are advancing through the list using n1 by going one node at a time. By reassigning n2 to n2.next.next you are advancing through it two at a time.

When you do that, n2.next.next may be null, so n2 will be null after the assignment. When the loop repeats and it checks if n2.next is not null, it throws the NPE because it can't get to next since n2 is already null.

You want to do something like what Alex posted instead.

Java 32-bit vs 64-bit compatibility

Yes, Java bytecode (and source code) is platform independent, assuming you use platform independent libraries. 32 vs. 64 bit shouldn't matter.

React-Router: No Not Found Route?

With the new version of React Router (using 2.0.1 now), you can use an asterisk as a path to route all 'other paths'.

So it would look like this:

<Route route="/" component={App}>
    <Route path=":area" component={Area}>
        <Route path=":city" component={City} />
        <Route path=":more-stuff" component={MoreStuff} />
    </Route>
    <Route path="*" component={NotFoundRoute} />
</Route>

Changing file permission in Python

FYI here is a function to convert a permission string with 9 characters (e.g. 'rwsr-x-wt') to a mask that can be used with os.chmod().

def perm2mask(p):

    assert len(p) == 9, 'Bad permission length'
    assert all(p[k] in 'rw-' for k in [0,1,3,4,6,7]), 'Bad permission format (read-write)'
    assert all(p[k] in 'xs-' for k in [2,5]), 'Bad permission format (execute)'
    assert p[8] in 'xt-', 'Bad permission format (execute other)'

    m = 0

    if p[0] == 'r': m |= stat.S_IRUSR
    if p[1] == 'w': m |= stat.S_IWUSR
    if p[2] == 'x': m |= stat.S_IXUSR
    if p[2] == 's': m |= stat.S_IXUSR | stat.S_ISUID

    if p[3] == 'r': m |= stat.S_IRGRP
    if p[4] == 'w': m |= stat.S_IWGRP
    if p[5] == 'x': m |= stat.S_IXGRP
    if p[5] == 's': m |= stat.S_IXGRP | stat.S_ISGID

    if p[6] == 'r': m |= stat.S_IROTH
    if p[7] == 'w': m |= stat.S_IWOTH
    if p[8] == 'x': m |= stat.S_IXOTH
    if p[8] == 't': m |= stat.S_IXOTH | stat.S_ISVTX

    return m

Note that setting SUID/SGID/SVTX bits will automatically set the corresponding execute bit. Without this, the resulting permission would be invalid (ST characters).

How to copy marked text in notepad++

It's not possible with Notepad but HERE'S THE EASY SOLUTION:

You will need the freeware Expresso v3.1 http://www.ultrapico.com/ExpressoDownload.htm

I resorted to another piece of free software: Expresso by Ultrapico.

  1. Once installed go in the tab "Test Mode".
  2. Copy your REGEX into the "Regular expressions" pane.
  3. Paste your whole text to be searched into the "Sample text" pane of Expresso,

  4. Press the "Run match" button. Right click in the "Search results pane" and "Export to..." or "Copy matched text to clipboard".

N.B.: The original author is @Andreas Jansson but it is hidden in a comment, so since this page is high ranked in Google Search I leave it here for others.

Case insensitive regular expression without re.compile?

The case-insensitive marker, (?i) can be incorporated directly into the regex pattern:

>>> import re

>>> re.findall('(?i)test', s)
['Test', 'TEST', 'test']

Django check for any exists for a query

Use count():

sc=scorm.objects.filter(Header__id=qp.id)

if sc.count() > 0:
   ...

The advantage over e.g. len() is, that the QuerySet is not yet evaluated:

count() performs a SELECT COUNT(*) behind the scenes, so you should always use count() rather than loading all of the record into Python objects and calling len() on the result.

Having this in mind, When QuerySets are evaluated can be worth reading.

If you use get(), e.g. scorm.objects.get(pk=someid), and the object does not exists, an ObjectDoesNotExist exception is raised:

from django.core.exceptions import ObjectDoesNotExist
try:
    sc = scorm.objects.get(pk=someid)
except ObjectDoesNotExist:
    print ...

Update: it's also possible to use exists():

if scorm.objects.filter(Header__id=qp.id).exists():
    ....

Returns True if the QuerySet contains any results, and False if not. This tries to perform the query in the simplest and fastest way possible, but it does execute nearly the same query as a normal QuerySet query.

Modify SVG fill color when being served as Background-Image

You can create your own SCSS function for this. Adding the following to your config.rb file.

require 'sass'
require 'cgi'

module Sass::Script::Functions

  def inline_svg_image(path, fill)
    real_path = File.join(Compass.configuration.images_path, path.value)
    svg = data(real_path)
    svg.gsub! '{color}', fill.value
    encoded_svg = CGI::escape(svg).gsub('+', '%20')
    data_url = "url('data:image/svg+xml;charset=utf-8," + encoded_svg + "')"
    Sass::Script::String.new(data_url)
  end

private

  def data(real_path)
    if File.readable?(real_path)
      File.open(real_path, "rb") {|io| io.read}
    else
      raise Compass::Error, "File not found or cannot be read: #{real_path}"
    end
  end

end

Then you can use it in your CSS:

.icon {
  background-image: inline-svg-image('icons/icon.svg', '#555');
}

You will need to edit your SVG files and replace any fill attributes in the markup with fill="{color}"

The icon path is always relative to your images_dir parameter in the same config.rb file.

Similar to some of the other solutions, but this is pretty clean and keeps your SCSS files tidy!

How do I check form validity with angularjs?

How to uninstall mini conda? python

The proper way to fully uninstall conda (Anaconda / Miniconda):

  1. Remove all conda-related files and directories using the Anaconda-Clean package

    conda activate your_conda_env_name
    conda install anaconda-clean
    anaconda-clean # add `--yes` to avoid being prompted to delete each one

  2. Remove your entire conda directory

    rm -rf ~/miniconda3

  3. Remove the line which adds the conda path to the PATH environment variable

    vi ~/.bashrc
    # -> Search for conda and delete the lines containing it
    # -> If you're not sure if the line belongs to conda, comment it instead of deleting it just to be safe
    source ~/.bashrc

  4. Remove the backup folder created by the the Anaconda-Clean package NOTE: Think twice before doing this, because after that you won't be able to restore anything from your old conda installation!

    rm -rf ~/.anaconda_backup

Wpf control size to content?

I had a user control which sat on page in a free form way, not constrained by another container, and the contents within the user control would not auto size but expand to the full size of what the user control was handed.

To get the user control to simply size to its content, for height only, I placed it into a grid with on row set to auto size such as this:

<Grid Margin="0,60,10,200">
    <Grid.RowDefinitions>
        <RowDefinition Height="Auto" />
    </Grid.RowDefinitions>
    <controls1:HelpPanel x:Name="HelpInfoPanel"
                         Visibility="Visible"
                         Width="570"
                         HorizontalAlignment="Right"
                         ItemsSource="{Binding HelpItems}"
                         Background="#FF313131" />
</Grid>

cannot be cast to java.lang.Comparable

I faced a similar kind of issue while using a custom object as a key in Treemap. Whenever you are using a custom object as a key in hashmap then you override two function equals and hashcode, However if you are using ContainsKey method of Treemap on this object then you need to override CompareTo method as well otherwise you will be getting this error Someone using a custom object as a key in hashmap in kotlin should do like following

 data class CustomObjectKey(var key1:String = "" , var
 key2:String = ""):Comparable<CustomObjectKey?>
 {
override fun compareTo(other: CustomObjectKey?): Int {
    if(other == null)
        return -1
   // suppose you want to do comparison based on key 1
    return this.key1.compareTo((other)key1)
}

override fun equals(other: Any?): Boolean {
    if(other == null)
        return false
    return this.key1 == (other as CustomObjectKey).key1
}

override fun hashCode(): Int {
    return this.key1.hashCode()

Is there a command for formatting HTML in the Atom editor?

There are a few packages for prettifying HTML. You can find them by searching the Atom package archive:

  1. Navigate to the Atom site
  2. Click the Packages link
  3. Enter "prettify" in the search box

Or just go to this link: https://atom.io/packages/search?q=prettify

Once you've selected a package that does what you want you can install it by using the command: apm install [package name] from the command line or install it using the interface in Preferences.

When the package is installed, follow its instructions for how to activate its capabilities.

What does the "~" (tilde/squiggle/twiddle) CSS selector mean?

Good to also check the other combinators in the family and to get back to what is this specific one.

  • ul li
  • ul > li
  • ul + ul
  • ul ~ ul

Example checklist:

  • ul li - Looking inside - Selects all the li elements placed (anywhere) inside the ul; Descendant selector
  • ul > li - Looking inside - Selects only the direct li elements of ul; i.e. it will only select direct children li of ul; Child Selector or Child combinator selector
  • ul + ul - Looking outside - Selects the ul immediately following the ul; It is not looking inside, but looking outside for the immediately following element; Adjacent Sibling Selector
  • ul ~ ul - Looking outside - Selects all the ul which follows the ul doesn't matter where it is, but both ul should be having the same parent; General Sibling Selector

Since hashes aren't inherently ordered, there isn't a notion of appending. Ruby hashes since 1.9 maintain insertion order, however. Here are the ways to add new key/value pairs.

The simplest solution is

h[:key] = "bar"

If you want a method, use store:

h.store(:key, "bar")

If you really, really want to use a "shovel" operator (<<), it is actually appending to the value of the hash as an array, and you must specify the key:

h[:key] << "bar"

The above only works when the key exists. To append a new key, you have to initialize the hash with a default value, which you can do like this:

h = Hash.new {|h, k| h[k] = ''}
h[:key] << "bar"

You may be tempted to monkey patch Hash to include a shovel operator that works in the way you've written:

class Hash
  def <<(k,v)
    self.store(k,v)
  end
end

However, this doesn't inherit the "syntactic sugar" applied to the shovel operator in other contexts:

h << :key, "bar" #doesn't work
h.<< :key, "bar" #works

1067 error on attempt to start MySQL

I just encountered a similar issue and I found that it is a permission problem. When I copy the database "data", I have to add the permission for "NETWORK SERVICE"

Proper way to assert type of variable in Python

You might want to try this example for version 2.6 of Python.

def my_print(text, begin, end):
    "Print text in UPPER between 'begin' and 'end' in lower."
    for obj in (text, begin, end):
        assert isinstance(obj, str), 'Argument of wrong type!'
    print begin.lower() + text.upper() + end.lower()

However, have you considered letting the function fail naturally instead?

Parsing JSON object in PHP using json_decode

Seems like you forgot the ["value"] or ->value:

echo $data[0]->weather->weatherIconUrl[0]->value;

Remove Object from Array using JavaScript

You could also try doing something like this:

var myArray = [{'name': 'test'}, {'name':'test2'}];
var myObject = {'name': 'test'};
myArray.splice(myArray.indexOf(myObject),1);

How to combine date from one field with time from another field - MS SQL Server

I ran into similar situation where I had to merge Date and Time fields to DateTime field. None of the above mentioned solution work, specially adding two fields as the data type for addition of these 2 fields is not same.

I created below solution, where I added hour and then minute part to the date. This worked beautifully for me. Please check it out and do let me know if you get into any issues.

;with tbl as ( select StatusTime = '12/30/1899 5:17:00 PM', StatusDate = '7/24/2019 12:00:00 AM' ) select DATEADD(MI, DATEPART(MINUTE,CAST(tbl.StatusTime AS TIME)),DATEADD(HH, DATEPART(HOUR,CAST(tbl.StatusTime AS TIME)), CAST(tbl.StatusDate as DATETIME))) from tbl

Result: 2019-07-24 17:17:00.000

How to serialize a JObject without the formatting?

Call JObject's ToString(Formatting.None) method.

Alternatively if you pass the object to the JsonConvert.SerializeObject method it will return the JSON without formatting.

Select distinct values from a list using LINQ in C#

You could implement a custom IEqualityComparer<Employee>:

public class Employee
{
    public string empName { get; set; }
    public string empID { get; set; }
    public string empLoc { get; set; }
    public string empPL { get; set; }
    public string empShift { get; set; }

    public class Comparer : IEqualityComparer<Employee>
    {
        public bool Equals(Employee x, Employee y)
        {
            return x.empLoc == y.empLoc
                && x.empPL == y.empPL
                && x.empShift == y.empShift;
        }

        public int GetHashCode(Employee obj)
        {
            unchecked  // overflow is fine
            {
                int hash = 17;
                hash = hash * 23 + (obj.empLoc ?? "").GetHashCode();
                hash = hash * 23 + (obj.empPL ?? "").GetHashCode();
                hash = hash * 23 + (obj.empShift ?? "").GetHashCode();
                return hash;
            }
        }
    }
}

Now you can use this overload of Enumerable.Distinct:

var distinct = employees.Distinct(new Employee.Comparer());

The less reusable, robust and efficient approach, using an anonymous type:

var distinctKeys = employees.Select(e => new { e.empLoc, e.empPL, e.empShift })
                            .Distinct();
var joined = from e in employees
             join d in distinctKeys
             on new { e.empLoc, e.empPL, e.empShift } equals d
             select e;
// if you want to replace the original collection
employees = joined.ToList();

Deleting multiple elements from a list

As a function:

def multi_delete(list_, *args):
    indexes = sorted(list(args), reverse=True)
    for index in indexes:
        del list_[index]
    return list_

Runs in n log(n) time, which should make it the fastest correct solution yet.

'xmlParseEntityRef: no name' warnings while loading xml into a php file

How to set the action for a UIBarButtonItem in Swift

Swift 5 & iOS 13+ Programmatic Example

  1. You must mark your function with @objc, see below example!
  2. No parenthesis following after the function name! Just use #selector(name).
  3. private or public doesn't matter; you can use private.

Code Example

override func viewWillAppear(_ animated: Bool) {
    super.viewWillAppear(animated)

    let menuButtonImage = UIImage(systemName: "flame")
    let menuButton = UIBarButtonItem(image: menuButtonImage, style: .plain, target: self, action: #selector(didTapMenuButton))
    navigationItem.rightBarButtonItem = menuButton
}

@objc public func didTapMenuButton() {
    print("Hello World")
}

Ruby: Can I write multi-line string with no concatenation?

In ruby 2.0 you can now just use %

For example:

    SQL = %{
      SELECT user, name
      FROM users
      WHERE users.id = #{var}
      LIMIT #{var2}
    }

How can I convert tabs to spaces in every file of a directory?

To convert all Java files recursively in a directory to use 4 spaces instead of a tab:

find . -type f -name *.java -exec bash -c 'expand -t 4 {} > /tmp/stuff;mv /tmp/stuff {}' \;

Numpy ValueError: setting an array element with a sequence. This message may appear without the existing of a sequence?

I believe python arrays just admit values. So convert it to list:

kOUT = np.zeros(N+1)
kOUT = kOUT.tolist()

Searching multiple files for multiple words

If you are using Notepad++ editor Goto ctrl + F choose tab 3 find in files and enter:

  1. Find What = text1*.*text2
  2. Filters : .
  3. Search mode = Regular Expression
  4. Directory = enter the path of the directory you want to search in. You can check Follow current doc. to have the path of the current file to be filled.

Makefile - missing separator

You need to precede the lines starting with gcc and rm with a hard tab. Commands in make rules are required to start with a tab (unless they follow a semicolon on the same line). The result should look like this:

PROG = semsearch
all: $(PROG)
%: %.c
        gcc -o $@ $< -lpthread

clean:
        rm $(PROG)

Note that some editors may be configured to insert a sequence of spaces instead of a hard tab. If there are spaces at the start of these lines you'll also see the "missing separator" error. If you do have problems inserting hard tabs, use the semicolon way:

PROG = semsearch
all: $(PROG)
%: %.c ; gcc -o $@ $< -lpthread

clean: ; rm $(PROG)

Git ignore local file changes

git pull wants you to either remove or save your current work so that the merge it triggers doesn't cause conflicts with your uncommitted work. Note that you should only need to remove/save untracked files if the changes you're pulling create files in the same locations as your local uncommitted files.

Remove your uncommitted changes

Tracked files

git checkout -f

Untracked files

git clean -fd

Save your changes for later

Tracked files

git stash

Tracked files and untracked files

git stash -u

Reapply your latest stash after git pull:

git stash pop

How do you simulate Mouse Click in C#?

I use the InvokeOnClick() method. It takes two arguments: Control and EventArgs. If you need the EventArgs, then create an instance of it and pass it in, else use InvokeOnClick(controlToClick, null);. You can use a variety of Mouse event related arguments that derive from EventArgs such as MouseEventArgs.

Convert character to ASCII code in JavaScript

To ensure full Unicode support and reversibility, consider using:

'\n'.codePointAt(0);

This will ensure that when testing characters over the UTF-16 limit, you will get their true code point value.

e.g.

''.codePointAt(0); // 68181
String.fromCodePoint(68181); // ''

''.charCodeAt(0);  // 55298
String.fromCharCode(55298);  // '?'

Adding Lombok plugin to IntelliJ project

If after installing the lombok intellij plugin and enabling annotation processing, if your getter and setters are still not recognised in intellij, do check if the plugin version is compatible with the intellij version you use.

It is listed under the Downloads section:

How to break/exit from a each() function in JQuery?

You can use return false;

Set initially selected item in Select list in Angular2

Update to angular 4.X.X, there is a new way to mark an option selected:

<select [compareWith]="byId" [(ngModel)]="selectedItem">
  <option *ngFor="let item of items" [ngValue]="item">{{item.name}}
  </option>
</select>

byId(item1: ItemModel, item2: ItemModel) {
  return item1.id === item2.id;
}

how to generate web service out of wsdl

How about using the wsdl /server or wsdl /serverinterface switches? As far as I understand the wsdl.exe command line properties, that's what you're looking for.

- ADVANCED -

/server

Server switch has been deprecated. Please use /serverInterface instead.
Generate an abstract class for an xml web service implementation using
ASP.NET based on the contracts. The default is to generate client proxy
classes.

On the other hand: why do you want to create obsolete technology solutions? Why not create this web service as a WCF service. That's the current and more modern, much more flexible way to do this!

Marc

UPDATE:

When I use wsdl /server on a WSDL file, I get this file created:

[WebService(Namespace="http://.......")]
public abstract partial class OneCrmServiceType : System.Web.Services.WebService
{
    /// <remarks/>
    [WebMethod]
    public abstract void OrderCreated(......);
}

This is basically almost exactly the same code that gets generated when you add an ASMX file to your solution (in the code behind file - "yourservice.asmx.cs"). I don't think you can get any closer to creating an ASMX file from a WSDL file.

You can always add the "yourservice.asmx" manually - it doesn't really contain much:

<%@ WebService Language="C#" CodeBehind="YourService.asmx.cs"
      Class="YourServiceNamespace.YourServiceClass" %>

Get current NSDate in timestamp format

If you'd like to call this method directly on an NSDate object and get the timestamp as a string in milliseconds without any decimal places, define this method as a category:

@implementation NSDate (MyExtensions)
- (NSString *)unixTimestampInMilliseconds
{
     return [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%.0f", [self timeIntervalSince1970] * 1000];
}

Git log out user from command line

How to convert InputStream to FileInputStream

Use ClassLoader#getResource() instead if its URI represents a valid local disk file system path.

URL resource = classLoader.getResource("resource.ext");
File file = new File(resource.toURI());
FileInputStream input = new FileInputStream(file);
// ...

If it doesn't (e.g. JAR), then your best bet is to copy it into a temporary file.

Path temp = Files.createTempFile("resource-", ".ext");
Files.copy(classLoader.getResourceAsStream("resource.ext"), temp, StandardCopyOption.REPLACE_EXISTING);
FileInputStream input = new FileInputStream(temp.toFile());
// ...

That said, I really don't see any benefit of doing so, or it must be required by a poor helper class/method which requires FileInputStream instead of InputStream. If you can, just fix the API to ask for an InputStream instead. If it's a 3rd party one, by all means report it as a bug. I'd in this specific case also put question marks around the remainder of that API.
