Programs & Examples On #Nullptr

The C++11 keyword for a null pointer, it can be converted to any pointer type.

NULL vs nullptr (Why was it replaced?)

You can find a good explanation of why it was replaced by reading A name for the null pointer: nullptr, to quote the paper:

This problem falls into the following categories:

  • Improve support for library building, by providing a way for users to write less ambiguous code, so that over time library writers will not need to worry about overloading on integral and pointer types.

  • Improve support for generic programming, by making it easier to express both integer 0 and nullptr unambiguously.

  • Make C++ easier to teach and learn.

What exactly is nullptr?

Why nullptr in C++11? What is it? Why is NULL not sufficient?

C++ expert Alex Allain says it perfectly here (my emphasis added in bold):

...imagine you have the following two function declarations:

void func(int n);
void func(char *s);

func( NULL ); // guess which function gets called?

Although it looks like the second function will be called--you are, after all, passing in what seems to be a pointer--it's really the first function that will be called! The trouble is that because NULL is 0, and 0 is an integer, the first version of func will be called instead. This is the kind of thing that, yes, doesn't happen all the time, but when it does happen, is extremely frustrating and confusing. If you didn't know the details of what is going on, it might well look like a compiler bug. A language feature that looks like a compiler bug is, well, not something you want.

Enter nullptr. In C++11, nullptr is a new keyword that can (and should!) be used to represent NULL pointers; in other words, wherever you were writing NULL before, you should use nullptr instead. It's no more clear to you, the programmer, (everyone knows what NULL means), but it's more explicit to the compiler, which will no longer see 0s everywhere being used to have special meaning when used as a pointer.

Allain ends his article with:

Regardless of all this--the rule of thumb for C++11 is simply to start using nullptr whenever you would have otherwise used NULL in the past.

(My words):

Lastly, don't forget that nullptr is an object--a class. It can be used anywhere NULL was used before, but if you need its type for some reason, it's type can be extracted with decltype(nullptr), or directly described as std::nullptr_t, which is simply a typedef of decltype(nullptr).

Rails: call another controller action from a controller

You can call another action inside a action as follows:

redirect_to action: 'action_name'

class MyController < ApplicationController
  def action1
   redirect_to action: 'action2'

Extracting the top 5 maximum values in excel

There 3 functions you want to look at here:

I ran a sample in Excel with your OPS values in Column B and Players in Column C, see below:

Excel sample

  • In Cells A13 to A17, the values 1 to 5 were inserted to specify the nth highest value.
  • In Cell B13, the following formula was added: =LARGE($B$2:$B$11, A13)
  • In Cell C13, the following formula was added: =INDEX($C$2:$C$11,MATCH(B13,$B$2:$B$11,0))
  • These formulae get the highest ranking OPS and Player based on the value in A13.
  • Simply select and drag to copy these formulae down to the next 4 cells which will reference the corresponding ranking in Column A.

How to round up a number in Javascript?

I've been using @AndrewMarshall answer for a long time, but found some edge cases. The following tests doesn't pass:

equals(roundUp(9.69545, 4), 9.6955);
equals(roundUp(37.760000000000005, 4), 37.76);
equals(roundUp(5.83333333, 4), 5.8333);

Here is what I now use to have round up behave correctly:

// Closure
(function() {
  /**
   * Decimal adjustment of a number.
   *
   * @param {String} type The type of adjustment.
   * @param {Number}  value The number.
   * @param {Integer} exp The exponent (the 10 logarithm of the adjustment base).
   * @returns {Number} The adjusted value.
   */
  function decimalAdjust(type, value, exp) {
    // If the exp is undefined or zero...
    if (typeof exp === 'undefined' || +exp === 0) {
      return Math[type](value);
    }
    value = +value;
    exp = +exp;
    // If the value is not a number or the exp is not an integer...
    if (isNaN(value) || !(typeof exp === 'number' && exp % 1 === 0)) {
      return NaN;
    }
    // If the value is negative...
    if (value < 0) {
      return -decimalAdjust(type, -value, exp);
    }
    // Shift
    value = value.toString().split('e');
    value = Math[type](+(value[0] + 'e' + (value[1] ? (+value[1] - exp) : -exp)));

What are the differences between Visual Studio Code and Visual Studio?

For Unity3D users ...

  • VSCode is incredibly faster than VS. Files open instantly from Unity. VS is very slow. VSCode launches instantly. VS takes forever to launch.

  • VS can literally compile code, build apps and so on, it's a huge IDE like Unity itself or XCode. VSCode is indeed "just" a full-featured text editor. VSCode is NOT a compiler (far less a huge, build-everything system that can literally create apps and software of all types): VSCode is literally "just a text editor".

  • With VSCode, you DO need to install the "Visual Studio Code" package. (Not to be confused with the "Visual Studio" package.) (It seems to me that VS works fine without the VS package, but, with VS Code, you must install Unity's VSCode package.)

enter image description here

  • When you first download and install VSCode, simply open any C# file on your machine. It will instantly prompt you to install the needed C# package. This is harmless and easy.

  • Unfortunately VSCode generally has only one window! You cannot, really, easily drag files to separate windows. If this is important to you, you may need to go with VS.

  • The biggest problem with VS is that the overall concept of settings and preferences are absolutely horrible. In VS, it is all-but impossible to change the font, etc. In contrast, VSCode has FANTASTIC preferences - dead simple, never a problem.

  • As far as I can see, every single feature in VS which you use in Unity is present in VSCode. (So, code coloring, jump to definitions, it understands/autocompletes every single thing in Unity, it opens from Unity, double clicking something in the Unity console opens the file to that line, etc etc)

  • If you are used to VS. And you want to change to VSCode. It's always hard changing editors, they are so intimate, but it's pretty similar; you won't have a big heartache.

In short if you're a VS for Unity3D user,

and you're going to try VSCode...

  1. VSCode is on the order of 19 trillion times faster in every way. It will blow your mind.

  2. It does seem to have every feature.

  3. Basically VS is the world's biggest IDE and application building system: VSCode is just an editor. (Indeed, that's exactly what you want with Unity, since Unity itself is the IDE.)

  4. Don't forget to just click to install the relevant Unity package.

If I'm not mistaken, there is no reason whatsoever to use VS with Unity.

Unity is an IDE so you just need a text editor, and that is what VSCode is. VSCode is hugely better in both speed and preferences. The only possible problem - multiple-windows are a bit clunky in VSCode!

That horrible "double copy" problem in VS ... solved!

If you are using VS with Unity. There is an infuriating problem where often VS will try to open twice, that is you will end up with two or more copies of VS running. Nobody has ever been able to fix this or figure out what the hell causes it. Fortunately, this problem never happens with VSCode.

Installing VSCode on a Mac - unbelievably easy.

There are no installers, etc etc etc. On the download page, you download a zipped Mac app. Put it in the Applications folder and you're done.

Meta files ...

To keep the "Explorer" list of files on the left tidy, in the Unity case:

enter image description here

SELECT CASE WHEN THEN (SELECT)

You should avoid using nested selects and I would go as far to say you should never use them in the actual select part of your statement. You will be running that select for each row that is returned. This is a really expensive operation. Rather use joins. It is much more readable and the performance is much better.

In your case the query below should help. Note the cases statement is still there, but now it is a simple compare operation.

select
    p.product_id,
    p.type_id,
    p.product_name,
    p.type,
    case p.type_id when 10 then (CONCAT_WS(' ' , first_name, middle_name, last_name )) else (null) end artistC
from
    Product p

    inner join Product_Type pt on
        pt.type_id = p.type_id

    left join Product_ArtistAuthor paa on
        paa.artist_id = p.artist_id
where
    p.product_id = $pid

I used a left join since I don't know the business logic.

XAMPP permissions on Mac OS X?

If you are running your page on the new XAMPP-VM version of MacOS you will have to set daemon as user and as group. Here you can find a great step-by-step illustration with screenshots from aXfon on how to do this.

As the htdocs folder under XAMPP-VM will be mounted as external volume, you'll have to do this as root of the mounted volume (root@debian). This can be achieved through the XAMPP-VM GUI: See screenshot.

Once you are running as root of the mounted volume you can as described above change the file permission using:

chown -R daemon:daemon /opt/lampp/htdocs/FOLDER_OF_YOUR_PAGE

Add line break to ::after or ::before pseudo-element content

Nice article explaining the basics (does not cover line breaks, however).

A Whole Bunch of Amazing Stuff Pseudo Elements Can Do

If you need to have two inline elements where one breaks into the next line within another element, you can accomplish this by adding a pseudo-element :after with content:'\A' and white-space: pre

    <span class="secondary-label">secondary label</span>
</h3>

CSS

.label:after {
    content: '\A';
    white-space: pre;
}

How can I avoid ResultSet is closed exception in Java?

A ResultSetClosedException could be thrown for two reasons.

1.) You have opened another connection to the database without closing all other connections.

2.) Your ResultSet may be returning no values. So when you try to access data from the ResultSet java will throw a ResultSetClosedException.

check if variable empty

Its worth noting - and I only found this out after nearly 9 years of PHP coding that the best way of checking any variable exists is using the empty() function. This is because it doesn't generate errors and even though you turn them off - PHP still generates them! empty() however won't return errors if the variable doesn't exist. So I believe the correct answer is not to check if its null but to do the following

if (!empty($var) && is_null($var))

Note the PHP manual

variable is considered empty if it does not exist or if its value equals FALSE

As opposed to being null which is handy here!

batch file to check 64bit or 32bit OS

I really do not understand some of the answers given here (sorry for that). The top-voted answer for example does not return the Windows architecture, instead it will give you the processor architecture. While running a 32-bits Windows build on a 64-bits CPU you will get the wrong result (it's a query on hardware being used).

The safest option is to query the BuildLabEx value from the registry.

Determine x86 (intel) or x86-64 (amd)

reg query "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion" /v "BuildLabEx" | >nul find /i ".x86fre."   && set "_ARCH_=x86" || set "_ARCH_=x86-64"

Determine x86 (intel), x86-64 (amd) or arm

set "_ARCH_=unknown"
reg query "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion" /v "BuildLabEx" | >nul find /i ".x86fre."   && set "_ARCH_=x86"
reg query "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion" /v "BuildLabEx" | >nul find /i ".amd64fre." && set "_ARCH_=x86-64"
reg query "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion" /v "BuildLabEx" | >nul find /i ".armfre."   && set "_ARCH_=arm"

An alternative option (mentioned before)

if defined ProgramFiles(x86) ( set "_ARCH_=x86-64" ) else ( set "_ARCH_=x86" )

The problem with the latter is when you mess up your variables, you are not able to use this method. Checking for the folder's existence will cause problems too when there are leftovers from a previous install (or some user purposely created the folder).

Get all dates between two dates in SQL Server

Just saying...here is a more simple approach to this:

declare @sdate date = '2017-06-25'

with dates_CTE (date) as (
    select @sdate

    select DATEADD(day, 1, date)
    from dates_CTE
    where date < @edate
)
select *

How to uninstall Anaconda completely from macOS

The official instructions seem to be here: https://docs.anaconda.com/anaconda/install/uninstall/

but if you like me that didn't work for some reason and for some reason your conda was installed somewhere else with telling you do this:

rm -rf ~/opt

I have no idea why it was saved there but that's what did it for me.

This was useful to me in fixing my conda installation (if that is the reason you are uninstalling it in the first place like me): https://stackoverflow.com/a/60902863/1601580 that ended up fixing it for me. Not sure why conda was acting weird in the first place or installing things wrongly in the first place though...

How to convert a Binary String to a base 10 integer in Java

I love loops! Yay!

String myString = "1001001"; //73

While loop with accumulator, left to right (l doesn't change):

int n = 0,
    j = -1,
    l = myString.length();
while (++j < l) n = (n << 1) + (myString.charAt(j) == '0' ? 0 : 1);
return n;

Right to left with 2 loop vars, inspired by Convert boolean to int in Java (absolutely horrible):

int n = 0,
    j = myString.length,
    i = 1;
while (j-- != 0) n -= (i = i << 1) * new Boolean(myString.charAt(j) == '0').compareTo(true);
return n >> 1;

A somewhat more reasonable implementation:

int n = 0,
    j = myString.length(),
    i = 1;
while (j-- != 0) n += (i = i << 1) * (myString.charAt(j) == '0' ? 0 : 1);
return n >> 1;

A readable version :p

int n = 0;
for (int j = 0; j < myString.length(); j++) {
    n *= 2;
    n += myString.charAt(j) == '0' ? 0 : 1;
}
return n;

How to install latest version of git on CentOS 7.x/6.x

This may be irrelevant. It is for people don't want build the latest git on the host meanwhile they still can get the latest git.

I think most people don't like building the latest git on CentOS because the dependencies will contaminate the host and you have to run lots of commands. Therefore, I have an idea which is building git inside the Docker container and then install the executable via the docker volume mount. After that, you can delete the image and container.

Yes, the downside is you have to install docker. But the least dependencies are introduced to the host and you don't have to install other yum repo.

Here is my repository. https://github.com/wood1986/docker-library/tree/master/git

AngularJs: How to set radio button checked based on model

One way that I see more powerful and avoid having a isDefault in all the models is by using the ng-attributes ng-model, ng-value and ng-checked.

ng-model: binds the value to your model.

ng-value: the value to pass to the ng-model binding.

ng-checked: value or expression that is evaluated. Useful for radio-button and check-boxes.

Example of use: In the following example, I have my model and a list of languages that my site supports. To display the different languages supported and updating the model with the selecting language we can do it in this way.

<!-- Radio -->
<div ng-repeat="language in languages">

  <div>
    <label>

      <input ng-model="site.lang"
             ng-value="language"
             ng-checked="(site.lang == language)"
             name="localizationOptions"
             type="radio">

      <span> {{language}} </span>

    </label>
  </div>

</div>
<!-- end of Radio -->

Our model site.lang will get a language value whenever the expression under evaluation (site.lang == language) is true. This will allow you to sync it with server easily since your model already has the change.

Prevent form redirect OR refresh on submit?

If you want to see the default browser errors being displayed, for example, those triggered by HTML attributes (showing up before any client-code JS treatment):

<input name="o" required="required" aria-required="true" type="text">

You should use the submit event instead of the click event. In this case a popup will be automatically displayed requesting "Please fill out this field". Even with preventDefault:

$('form').on('submit', function(event) {
   event.preventDefault();
   my_form_treatment(this, event);
}); // -> this will show up a "Please fill out this field" pop-up before my_form_treatment

As someone mentioned previously, return false would stop propagation (i.e. if there are more handlers attached to the form submission, they would not be executed), but, in this case, the action triggered by the browser will always execute first. Even with a return false at the end.

So if you want to get rid of these default pop-ups, use the click event on the submit button:

$('form input[type=submit]').on('click', function(event) {
   event.preventDefault();
   my_form_treatment(this, event);
}); // -> this will NOT show any popups related to HTML attributes

Remove or adapt border of frame of legend using matplotlib

One more related question, since it took me forever to find the answer:

How to make the legend background blank (i.e. transparent, not white):

legend = plt.legend()
legend.get_frame().set_facecolor('none')

Warning, you want 'none' (the string). None means the default color instead.

In ASP.NET, when should I use Session.Clear() rather than Session.Abandon()?

Session.Abandon() destroys the session and the Session_OnEnd event is triggered.

Session.Clear() just removes all values (content) from the Object. The session with the same key is still alive.

So, if you use Session.Abandon(), you lose that specific session and the user will get a new session key. You could use it for example when the user logs out.

Use Session.Clear(), if you want that the user remaining in the same session (if you don't want the user to relogin for example) and reset all the session specific data.

Java associative-array

Java doesn't have associative arrays like PHP does.

There are various solutions for what you are doing, such as using a Map, but it depends on how you want to look up the information. You can easily write a class that holds all your information and store instances of them in an ArrayList.

public class Foo{
    public String name, fname;

    public Foo(String name, String fname){
        this.name = name;
        this.fname = fname;
    }
}

And then...

List<Foo> foos = new ArrayList<Foo>();
foos.add(new Foo("demo","fdemo"));
foos.add(new Foo("test","fname"));

So you can access them like...

foos.get(0).name;
=> "demo"

How can I create objects while adding them into a vector?

// create a vector of unknown players.
std::vector<player> players;

// resize said vector to only contain 6 players.
players.resize(6);

Values are always initialized, so a vector of 6 players is a vector of 6 valid player objects.

As for the second part, you need to use pointers. Instantiating c++ interface as a child class

Converting from signed char to unsigned char and back again?

Do you realize, that CLAMP255 returns 0 for v < 0 and 255 for v >= 0?
IMHO, CLAMP255 should be defined as:

#define CLAMP255(v) (v > 255 ? 255 : (v < 0 ? 0 : v))

Difference: If v is not greater than 255 and not less than 0: return v instead of 255

How to set default values in Rails?

A potentially even better/cleaner potential way than the answers proposed is to overwrite the accessor, like this:

def status
  self['name_of_var'] || 'desired_default_value'
end

See "Overwriting default accessors" in the ActiveRecord::Base documentation and more from StackOverflow on using self.

Correct way to pause a Python program

I work with non-programmers who like a simple solution:

import code
code.interact(banner='Paused. Press ^D (Ctrl+D) to continue.', local=globals())

This produces an interpreter that acts almost exactly like the real interpreter, including the current context, with only the output:

Paused. Press ^D (Ctrl+D) to continue.
>>>

The Python Debugger is also a good way to pause.

import pdb
pdb.set_trace() # Python 2

or

breakpoint() # Python 3

How to hide Bootstrap previous modal when you opening new one?

The best that I've been able to do is

$(this).closest('.modal').modal('toggle');

This gets the modal holding the DOM object you triggered the event on (guessing you're clicking a button). Gets the closest parent '.modal' and toggles it. Obviously only works because it's inside the modal you clicked.

You can however do this:

$(".modal:visible").modal('toggle');

This gets the modal that is displaying (since you can only have one open at a time), and triggers the 'toggle' This would not work without ":visible"

You need to put the data before render

Should be like this:

var data = [
  {author: "Pete Hunt", text: "This is one comment"},
  {author: "Jordan Walke", text: "This is *another* comment"}
];

React.render(
  <CommentBox data={data}/>,
  document.getElementById('content')
);

Instead of this:

React.render(
  <CommentBox data={data}/>,
  document.getElementById('content')
);

var data = [
  {author: "Pete Hunt", text: "This is one comment"},
  {author: "Jordan Walke", text: "This is *another* comment"}
];

Explain ggplot2 warning: "Removed k rows containing missing values"

Even if your data falls within your specified limits (e.g. c(0, 335)), adding a geom_jitter() statement could push some points outside those limits, producing the same error message.

# Jitter is too large -- this generates the error message
ggplot(mtcars, aes(mpg, hp)) +
    geom_point() +

Determine if char is a num or letter

You'll want to use the isalpha() and isdigit() standard functions in <ctype.h>.

char c = 'a'; // or whatever

if (isalpha(c)) {
    puts("it's a letter");
} else if (isdigit(c)) {
    puts("it's a digit");
} else {
    puts("something else?");
}

regex.test V.S. string.match to know if a string matches a regular expression

Don't forget to take into consideration the global flag in your regexp :

var reg = /abc/g;
!!'abcdefghi'.match(reg); // => true
!!'abcdefghi'.match(reg); // => true
reg.test('abcdefghi');    // => true
reg.test('abcdefghi');    // => false <=

This is because Regexp keeps track of the lastIndex when a new match is found.

Reactjs convert html string to jsx

If you know ahead what tags are in the string you want to render; this could be for example if only certain tags are allowed in the moment of the creation of the string; a possible way to address this is use the Trans utility:

import { Trans } from 'react-i18next'
import React, { FunctionComponent } from "react";

export type MyComponentProps = {
    htmlString: string
}

export const MyComponent: FunctionComponent<MyComponentProps> = ({
  htmlString
}) => {
  return (
    <div>
      <Trans
        components={{
          b: <b />,
          p: <p />
        }}
      >
        {htmlString}
      </Trans>
    </div>
  )
}

then you can use it as always

<MyComponent
    htmlString={'<p>Hello <b>World</b></p>'}
/>

What are the differences between a multidimensional array and an array of arrays in C#?

In addition to the other answers, note that a multidimensional array is allocated as one big chunky object on the heap. This has some implications:

  1. Some multidimensional arrays will get allocated on the Large Object Heap (LOH) where their equivalent jagged array counterparts would otherwise not have.
  2. The GC will need to find a single contiguous free block of memory to allocate a multidimensional array, whereas a jagged array might be able to fill in gaps caused by heap fragmentation... this isn't usually an issue in .NET because of compaction, but the LOH doesn't get compacted by default (you have to ask for it, and you have to ask every time you want it).
  3. You'll want to look into <gcAllowVeryLargeObjects> for multidimensional arrays way before the issue will ever come up if you only ever use jagged arrays.

How do you add swap to an EC2 instance?

You can add a 1 GB swap to your instance with these commands:

sudo dd if=/dev/zero of=/swapfile bs=1M count=1024
sudo mkswap /swapfile
sudo swapon /swapfile

To enable it by default after reboot, add this line to /etc/fstab:

/swapfile swap swap defaults 0 0

how to read System environment variable in Spring applicationContext

You are close :o) Spring 3.0 adds Spring Expression Language. You can use

<util:properties id="dbProperties"
    location="classpath:config_#{systemProperties['env']}/db.properties" />

Combined with java ... -Denv=QA should solve your problem.

Note also a comment by @yiling:

In order to access system environment variable, that is OS level variables as amoe commented, we can simply use "systemEnvironment" instead of "systemProperties" in that EL. Like #{systemEnvironment['ENV_VARIABLE_NAME']}

Sorting Python list based on the length of the string

Write a function lensort to sort a list of strings based on length.

def lensort(a):
    n = len(a)
    for i in range(n):
        for j in range(i+1,n):
            if len(a[i]) > len(a[j]):
                temp = a[i]
                a[i] = a[j]
                a[j] = temp
    return a
print lensort(["hello","bye","good"])

Multiple bluetooth connection

Please take a look at the Android documentation.

Using the Bluetooth APIs, an Android application can perform the following:

  • Scan for other Bluetooth devices
  • Query the local Bluetooth adapter for paired Bluetooth devices
  • Establish RFCOMM channels
  • Connect to other devices through service discovery
  • Transfer data to and from other devices
  • Manage multiple connections

Change the selected value of a drop-down list with jQuery

In my case I was able to get it working using the .attr() method.

$("._statusDDL").attr("selected", "");

Read a file one line at a time in node.js?

const fs = require("fs")

fs.readFile('./file', 'utf-8', (err, data) => {
var innerContent;
    console.log("Asynchronous read: " + data.toString());
    const lines = data.toString().split('\n')
    for (let line of lines)
        innerContent += line + '<br>';

});

Vue JS mounted()

You can also move mounted out of the Vue instance and make it a function in the top-level scope. This is also a useful trick for server side rendering in Vue.

function init() {
  // Use `this` normally
}

new Vue({
  methods:{
    init
  },
  mounted(){
    init.call(this)
  }
})

Use YAML with variables

After some search, I've found a cleaner solution wich use the % operator.

In your YAML file :

key : 'This is the foobar var : %{foobar}'

In your ruby code :

require 'yaml'

file = YAML.load_file('your_file.yml')

foobar = 'Hello World !'
content = file['key']
modified_content = content % { :foobar => foobar }

puts modified_content

And the output is :

This is the foobar var : Hello World !

As @jschorr said in the comment, you can also add multiple variable to the value in the Yaml file :

Yaml :

key : 'The foo var is %{foo} and the bar var is %{bar} !'

Ruby :

# ...
foo = 'FOO'
bar = 'BAR'
# ...
modified_content = content % { :foo => foo, :bar => bar }

Output :

The foo var is FOO and the bar var is BAR !

MySQL: Error dropping database (errno 13; errno 17; errno 39)

As for ERRORCODE 39, you can definately just delete the physical table files on the disk. the location depends on your OS distribution and setup. On Debian its typically under /var/lib/mysql/database_name/ So do a:

rm -f /var/lib/mysql/<database_name>/

And then drop the database from your tool of choice or using the command:

DROP DATABASE <database_name>

Cannot install packages using node package manager in Ubuntu

Here's another approach I use since I like n for easy switching between node versions.

On a new Ubuntu system, first install the 'system' node:

curl -sL https://deb.nodesource.com/setup | sudo bash -

Then install n module globally:

npm install -g n

Since the system node was installed first (above), the alternatives system can be used to cleanly point to the node provided by n. First make sure the alternatives system has nothing for node:

update-alternatives --remove-all node

Then add the node provided by n:

update-alternatives --install /usr/bin/node node /usr/local/bin/node 1

Next add node provided by the system (the one that was installed with curl):

update-alternatives --install /usr/bin/node node /usr/bin/nodejs 2

Now select the node provided by n using the interactive menu (select /usr/local/bin/node from the menu presented by the following command):

update-alternatives --config node

Finally, since /usr/local/bin usually has a higher precedence in PATH than /usr/bin, the following alias must be created (enter in your .bashrc or .zshrc) if the alternatives system node is to be effective; otherwise the node installed with n in /usr/local/bin takes always precedence:

alias node='/usr/bin/node'

Now you can easily switch between node versions with n <desired node version number>.

No default constructor found; nested exception is java.lang.NoSuchMethodException with Spring MVC?

In my case, spring threw this because i forgot to make an inner class static.

When you found that it doesnt help even adding a no-arg constructor, please check your modifier.

Get Windows version in a batch file

I know it's an old question but I thought these were useful enough to put here for people searching.

This first one is a simple batch way to get the right version. You can find out if it is Server or Workstation (if that's important) in another process. I just didn't take time to add it.

We use this structure inside code to ensure compliance with requirements. I'm sure there are many more graceful ways but this does always work.

:: -------------------------------------
:: Check Windows Version
:: 5.0 = W2K
:: 5.1 = XP
:: 5.2 = Server 2K3
:: 6.0 = Vista or Server 2K8
:: 6.1 = Win7 or Server 2K8R2
:: 6.2 = Win8 or Server 2K12
:: 6.3 = Win8.1 or Server 2K12R2
:: 0.0 = Unknown or Unable to determine
:: --------------------------------------
echo OS Detection:  Starting

if %ERRORLEVEL% EQU 0 (
echo  OS = Windows 2000
)
ver | findstr /i "5\.1\."
if %ERRORLEVEL% EQU 0 (
echo OS = Windows XP
)
ver | findstr /i "5\.2\."
if %ERRORLEVEL% EQU 0 (
echo OS = Server 2003

ver | findstr /i "6\.0\." > nul

)
ver | findstr /i "6\.3\." > nul

This second one isn't what was asked for but it may be useful for someone looking.

Is there a way to define a min and max value for EditText in Android?

I found my own answer. It is very late now but I want to share it with you. I implement this interface:

import android.text.TextWatcher;

public abstract class MinMaxTextWatcher implements TextWatcher {
    int min, max;
    public MinMaxTextWatcher(int min, int max) {
        super();
        this.min = min;
        this.max = max;
    }

}

And then implement it in this way inside your activity:

private void limitEditText(final EditText ed, int min, int max) {
    ed.addTextChangedListener(new MinMaxTextWatcher(min, max) {
        @Override
        public void beforeTextChanged(CharSequence s, int start, int count, int after) {

        }

        @Override
        public void onTextChanged(CharSequence s, int start, int before, int count) {

        }

        @Override
        public void afterTextChanged(Editable s) {
            String str = s.toString();
            int n = 0;
            try {
                n = Integer.parseInt(str);
                if(n < min) {
                    ed.setText(min);
                    Toast.makeText(getApplicationContext(), "Minimum allowed is " + min, Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show();
                }
                else if(n > max) {
                    ed.setText("" + max);
                    Toast.makeText(getApplicationContext(), "Maximum allowed is " + max, Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show();
                }
            }
            catch(NumberFormatException nfe) {
                ed.setText("" + min);
                Toast.makeText(getApplicationContext(), "Bad format for number!" + max, Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show();
            }
        }
    });
}

This is a very simple answer, if any better please tell me.

How to align a div to the top of its parent but keeping its inline-block behaviour?

Try the vertical-align CSS property.

#box1 {
    width: 50px;
    height: 50px;
    background: #999;
    display: inline-block;
    vertical-align: top; /* here */
}

Apply it to #box3 too.

How to get column values in one comma separated value

For Mysql:

SELECT t.user,

(SELECT GROUP_CONCAT( t1.department ) FROM table_name t1 WHERE t1.user = t.user)department

FROM table_name t
GROUP BY t.user
LIMIT 0 , 30

jQuery append and remove dynamic table row

Node.js - SyntaxError: Unexpected token import

My project uses node v10.21.0, which still does not support ES6 import keyword. There are multiple ways to make node recognize import, one of them is to start node with node --experimental-modules index.mjs (The mjs extension is already covered in one of the answers here). But, this way, you will not be able to use node specific keyword like require in your code. If there is need to use both nodejs's require keyword along with ES6's import, then the way out is to use the esm npm package. After adding esm package as a dependency, node needs to be started with a special configuration like: node -r esm index.js

Difference between javacore, thread dump and heap dump in Websphere

A thread dump is a dump of the stacks of all live threads. Thus useful for analysing what an app is up to at some point in time, and if done at intervals handy in diagnosing some kinds of 'execution' problems (e.g. thread deadlock).

A heap dump is a dump of the state of the Java heap memory. Thus useful for analysing what use of memory an app is making at some point in time so handy in diagnosing some memory issues, and if done at intervals handy in diagnosing memory leaks.

This is what they are in 'raw' terms, and could be provided in many ways. In general used to describe dumped files from JVMs and app servers, and in this form they are a low level tool. Useful if for some reason you can't get anything else, but you will find life easier using decent profiling tool to get similar but easier to dissect info.

With respect to WebSphere a javacore file is a thread dump, albeit with a lot of other info such as locks and loaded classes and some limited memory usage info, and a PHD file is a heap dump.

If you want to read a javacore file you can do so by hand, but there is an IBM tool (BM Thread and Monitor Dump Analyzer) which makes it simpler. If you want to read a heap dump file you need one of many IBM tools: MDD4J or Heap Analyzer.

How to identify server IP address in PHP

Because $_SERVER[] SERVER_ADDR, HTTP_HOST and SERVER_NAME are not set.

How to sum all values in a column in Jaspersoft iReport Designer?

It is quite easy to solve your task. You should create and use a new variable for summing values of the "Doctor Payment" column.

In your case the variable can be declared like this:

<variable name="total" class="java.lang.Integer" calculation="Sum">
    <variableExpression><![CDATA[$F{payment}]]></variableExpression>
</variable>
  • the Calculation type is Sum;
  • the Reset type is Report;
  • the Variable expression is $F{payment}, where $F{payment} is the name of a field contains sum (Doctor Payment).

The working example.

CSV datasource:

doctor_id,payment
A1,123
B1,223
C2,234
D3,678
D1,343

The template:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<jasperReport ...>
    <queryString>
        <![CDATA[]]>
    </queryString>
    <field name="doctor_id" class="java.lang.String"/>
    <field name="payment" class="java.lang.Integer"/>
    <variable name="total" class="java.lang.Integer" calculation="Sum">

console.log showing contents of array object

Json stands for JavaScript Object Notation really all json is are javascript objects so your array is in json form already. To write it out in a div you could do a bunch of things one of the easiest I think would be:

 objectDiv.innerHTML = filter;

where objectDiv is the div you want selected from the DOM using jquery. If you wanted to list parts of the array out you could access them since it is a javascript object like so:

 objectDiv.innerHTML = filter.dvals.valueToDisplay; //brand or count depending.

edit: anything you want to be a string but is not currently (which is rare javascript treats almost everything as a string) just use the toString() function built in. so line above if you needed it would be filter.dvals.valueToDisplay.toString();

second edit to clarify: this answer is in response to the OP's comments and not completely to his original question.

What HTTP traffic monitor would you recommend for Windows?

I use Wireshark in most cases, but I have found Fiddler to be less of a hassle when dealing with encrypted data.

Is java.sql.Timestamp timezone specific?

For Mysql, we have a limitation. In the driver Mysql doc, we have :

The following are some known issues and limitations for MySQL Connector/J: When Connector/J retrieves timestamps for a daylight saving time (DST) switch day using the getTimeStamp() method on the result set, some of the returned values might be wrong. The errors can be avoided by using the following connection options when connecting to a database:

useTimezone=true
useLegacyDatetimeCode=false
serverTimezone=UTC

So, when we do not use this parameters and we call setTimestamp or getTimestamp with calendar or without calendar, we have the timestamp in the jvm timezone.

Example :

The jvm timezone is GMT+2. In the database, we have a timestamp : 1461100256 = 19/04/16 21:10:56,000000000 GMT

Properties props = new Properties();
props.setProperty("user", "root");
props.setProperty("password", "");
props.setProperty("useTimezone", "true");
props.setProperty("useLegacyDatetimeCode", "false");
props.setProperty("serverTimezone", "UTC");
Connection con = DriverManager.getConnection(conString, props);
......
Calendar nowGMT = Calendar.getInstance(TimeZone.getTimeZone("GMT"));
Calendar nowGMTPlus4 = Calendar.getInstance(TimeZone.getTimeZone("GMT+4"));
......
rs.getTimestamp("timestampColumn");//Oracle driver convert date to jvm timezone and Mysql convert date to GMT (specified in the parameter)
rs.getTimestamp("timestampColumn", nowGMT);//convert date to GMT
rs.getTimestamp("timestampColumn", nowGMTPlus4);//convert date to GMT+4 timezone

The first method returns : 1461100256000 = 19/04/2016 - 21:10:56 GMT

The second method returns : 1461100256000 = 19/04/2016 - 21:10:56 GMT

The third method returns : 1461085856000 = 19/04/2016 - 17:10:56 GMT

Instead of Oracle, when we use the same calls, we have :

The first method returns : 1461093056000 = 19/04/2016 - 19:10:56 GMT

The second method returns : 1461100256000 = 19/04/2016 - 21:10:56 GMT

The third method returns : 1461085856000 = 19/04/2016 - 17:10:56 GMT

NB : It is not necessary to specify the parameters for Oracle.

Html table with button on each row

Pretty sure this solves what you're looking for:

HTML:

<table>
    <tr><td><button class="editbtn">edit</button></td></tr>
    <tr><td><button class="editbtn">edit</button></td></tr>
    <tr><td><button class="editbtn">edit</button></td></tr>
    <tr><td><button class="editbtn">edit</button></td></tr>
</table>

Javascript (using jQuery):

$(document).ready(function(){
    $('.editbtn').click(function(){
        $(this).html($(this).html() == 'edit' ? 'modify' : 'edit');
    });
});

Edit:

Apparently I should have looked at your sample code first ;)

You need to change (at least) the ID attribute of each element. The ID is the unique identifier for each element on the page, meaning that if you have multiple items with the same ID, you'll get conflicts.

By using classes, you can apply the same logic to multiple elements without any conflicts.

Get IP address of an interface on Linux

If you're looking for an address (IPv4) of the specific interface say wlan0 then try this code which uses getifaddrs():

#include <arpa/inet.h>
#include <sys/socket.h>
#include <netdb.h>
#include <ifaddrs.h>
#include <stdio.h>
#include <stdlib.h>
#include <unistd.h>
#include <string.h>
int main(int argc, char *argv[])
{
    struct ifaddrs *ifaddr, *ifa;
    int family, s;
    char host[NI_MAXHOST];

    if (getifaddrs(&ifaddr) == -1)
    {
        perror("getifaddrs");
        exit(EXIT_FAILURE);
    }

    for (ifa = ifaddr; ifa != NULL; ifa = ifa->ifa_next)
    {
        if (ifa->ifa_addr == NULL)
            continue;

        s=getnameinfo(ifa->ifa_addr,sizeof(struct sockaddr_in),host, NI_MAXHOST, NULL, 0, NI_NUMERICHOST);

        if((strcmp(ifa->ifa_name,"wlan0")==0)&&(ifa->ifa_addr->sa_family==AF_INET))
        {
            if (s != 0)
            {
                printf("getnameinfo() failed: %s\n", gai_strerror(s));
                exit(EXIT_FAILURE);
            }
            printf("\tInterface : <%s>\n",ifa->ifa_name );
            printf("\t  Address : <%s>\n", host);
        }
    }

    freeifaddrs(ifaddr);
    exit(EXIT_SUCCESS);
}

You can replace wlan0 with eth0 for ethernet and lo for local loopback.

The structure and detailed explanations of the data structures used could be found here.

How do you decrease navbar height in Bootstrap 3?

The answer above worked fine (MVC5 + Bootstrap 3.0), but the height returned to the default once the navbar button showed up (very small screen). Had to add the below in my .css to fix that as well.

.navbar-header .navbar-toggle {
    margin-top:0px;
    margin-bottom:0px;
    padding-bottom:0px;
}

How to find memory leak in a C++ code/project?

Visual Leak Detector (VLD) is a free, robust, open-source memory leak detection system for Visual C++.

When you run your program under the Visual Studio debugger, Visual Leak Detector will output a memory leak report at the end of your debugging session. The leak report includes the full call stack showing how any leaked memory blocks were allocated. Double-click on a line in the call stack to jump to that file and line in the editor window.

If you only have crash dumps, you can use the Windbg !heap -l command, it will detect leaked heap blocks. Better open the gflags option: “Create user mode stack trace database”, then you will see the memory allocation call stack.

htaccess <Directory> deny from all

You can also use RedirectMatch directive to deny access to a folder.

To deny access to a folder, you can use the following RedirectMatch in htaccess :

 RedirectMatch 403 ^/folder/?$

This will forbid an external access to /folder/ eg : http://example.com/folder/ will return a 403 forbidden error.

To deny access to everything inside the folder, You can use this :

RedirectMatch 403 ^/folder/.*$

This will block access to the entire folder eg : http://example.com/folder/anyURI will return a 403 error response to client.

Where can I find Android source code online?

2020: The official AOSP code search https://cs.android.com/

You can view the source code through http://developer.android.com, when you're reading the API there will be a link to the matching source code on GitHub, you just need to add the Android SDK Reference Search Plugin on Chrome.

I blogged about it here:

Selecting/excluding sets of columns in pandas

In a similar vein, when reading a file, one may wish to exclude columns upfront, rather than wastefully reading unwanted data into memory and later discarding them.

As of pandas 0.20.0, usecols now accepts callables.1 This update allows more flexible options for reading columns:

skipcols = [...]
read_csv(..., usecols=lambda x: x not in skipcols)

The latter pattern is essentially the inverse of the traditional usecols method - only specified columns are skipped.

Given

Data in a file

import numpy as np
import pandas as pd

df = pd.DataFrame(np.random.randn(100, 4), columns=list('ABCD'))

filename = "foo.csv"
df.to_csv(filename)

Code

skipcols = ["B", "D"]
df1 = pd.read_csv(filename, usecols=lambda x: x not in skipcols, index_col=0)
df1

Output

          A         C
0  0.062350  0.076924
1 -0.016872  1.091446
2  0.213050  1.646109
3 -1.196928  1.153497
4 -0.628839 -0.856529
...

Details

A DataFrame was written to a file. It was then read back as a separate DataFrame, now skipping unwanted columns (B and D).

Note that for the OP's situation, since data is already created, the better approach is the accepted answer, which drops unwanted columns from an extant object. However, the technique presented here is most useful when directly reading data from files into a DataFrame.

A request was raised for a "skipcols" option in this issue and was addressed in a later issue.

Filename timestamp in Windows CMD batch script getting truncated

See Stack Overflow question How to get current datetime on Windows command line, in a suitable format for using in a filename?.

Create a file, date.bat:

@echo off
For /f "tokens=2-4 delims=/ " %%a in ('date /t') do (set mydate=%%c-%%a-%%b)
For /f "tokens=1-3 delims=/:/ " %%a in ('time /t') do (set mytime=%%a-%%b-%%c)
set mytime=%mytime: =%
echo %mydate%_%mytime%

Run date.bat:

C:\>date.bat
2012-06-14_12-47-PM

UPDATE:

You can also do it with one line like this:

for /f "tokens=2-8 delims=.:/ " %%a in ("%date% %time%") do set DateNtime=%%c-%%a-%%b_%%d-%%e-%%f.%%g

Error: "Input is not proper UTF-8, indicate encoding !" using PHP's simplexml_load_string

I just had this problem. Turns out the XML file (not the contents) was not encoded in utf-8, but in ISO-8859-1. You can check this on a Mac with file -I xml_filename.

I used Sublime to change the file encoding to utf-8, and lxml imported it no issues.

Java Replace Character At Specific Position Of String?

Kay!

First of all, when dealing with strings you have to refer to their positions in 0 base convention. This means that if you have a string like this:

String str = "hi";
//str length is equal 2 but the character
//'h' is in the position 0 and character 'i' is in the postion 1

With that in mind, the best way to tackle this problem is creating a method to replace a character at a given position in a string like this:

Method:

public String changeCharInPosition(int position, char ch, String str){
    char[] charArray = str.toCharArray();
    charArray[position] = ch;
    return new String(charArray);
}

Then you should call the method 'changeCharInPosition' in this way:

String str = "hi";
str = changeCharInPosition(1, 'k', str);
System.out.print(str); //this will return "hk"

If you have any questions, don't hesitate, post something!

How do I create a self-signed certificate for code signing on Windows?

Updated Answer

If you are using the following Windows versions or later: Windows Server 2012, Windows Server 2012 R2, or Windows 8.1 then MakeCert is now deprecated, and Microsoft recommends using the PowerShell Cmdlet New-SelfSignedCertificate.

If you're using an older version such as Windows 7, you'll need to stick with MakeCert or another solution. Some people suggest the Public Key Infrastructure Powershell (PSPKI) Module.

Original Answer

While you can create a self-signed code-signing certificate (SPC - Software Publisher Certificate) in one go, I prefer to do the following:

Creating a self-signed certificate authority (CA)

makecert -r -pe -n "CN=My CA" -ss CA -sr CurrentUser ^
         -a sha256 -cy authority -sky signature -sv MyCA.pvk MyCA.cer

(^ = allow batch command-line to wrap line)

This creates a self-signed (-r) certificate, with an exportable private key (-pe). It's named "My CA", and should be put in the CA store for the current user. We're using the SHA-256 algorithm. The key is meant for signing (-sky).

The private key should be stored in the MyCA.pvk file, and the certificate in the MyCA.cer file.

Importing the CA certificate

Because there's no point in having a CA certificate if you don't trust it, you'll need to import it into the Windows certificate store. You can use the Certificates MMC snapin, but from the command line:

certutil -user -addstore Root MyCA.cer

Creating a code-signing certificate (SPC)

makecert -pe -n "CN=My SPC" -a sha256 -cy end ^
         -sky signature ^
         -ic MyCA.cer -iv MyCA.pvk ^
         -sv MySPC.pvk MySPC.cer

It is pretty much the same as above, but we're providing an issuer key and certificate (the -ic and -iv switches).

We'll also want to convert the certificate and key into a PFX file:

pvk2pfx -pvk MySPC.pvk -spc MySPC.cer -pfx MySPC.pfx

If you want to protect the PFX file, add the -po switch, otherwise PVK2PFX creates a PFX file with no passphrase.

Using the certificate for signing code

signtool sign /v /f MySPC.pfx ^
              /t http://timestamp.url MyExecutable.exe

(See why timestamps may matter)

If you import the PFX file into the certificate store (you can use PVKIMPRT or the MMC snapin), you can sign code as follows:

signtool sign /v /n "Me" /s SPC ^
              /t http://timestamp.url MyExecutable.exe

Some possible timestamp URLs for signtool /t are:

  • http://timestamp.verisign.com/scripts/timstamp.dll
  • http://timestamp.globalsign.com/scripts/timstamp.dll
  • http://timestamp.comodoca.com/authenticode

Full Microsoft documentation

Downloads

For those who are not .NET developers, you will need a copy of the Windows SDK and .NET framework. A current link is available here: SDK & .NET (which installs makecert in C:\Program Files\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v7.1). Your mileage may vary.

MakeCert is available from the Visual Studio Command Prompt. Visual Studio 2015 does have it, and it can be launched from the Start Menu in Windows 7 under "Developer Command Prompt for VS 2015" or "VS2015 x64 Native Tools Command Prompt" (probably all of them in the same folder).

Selecting multiple columns with linq query and lambda expression

Not sure what you table structure is like but see below.

public NamePriceModel[] AllProducts()
{
    try
    {
        using (UserDataDataContext db = new UserDataDataContext())
        {
            return db.mrobProducts
                .Where(x => x.Status == 1)
                .Select(x => new NamePriceModel {
                    Name = x.Name,
                    Id = x.Id,
                    Price = x.Price
                })
                .OrderBy(x => x.Id)
                .ToArray();
         }
     }
     catch
     {
         return null;
     }
 }

This would return an array of type anonymous with the members you require.

Update:

Create a new class.

public class NamePriceModel
{
    public string Name {get; set;}
    public decimal? Price {get; set;}
    public int Id {get; set;}
}

I've modified the query above to return this as well and you should change your method from returning string[] to returning NamePriceModel[].

unsigned int vs. size_t

This excerpt from the glibc manual 0.02 may also be relevant when researching the topic:

There is a potential problem with the size_t type and versions of GCC prior to release 2.4. ANSI C requires that size_t always be an unsigned type. For compatibility with existing systems' header files, GCC defines size_t in stddef.h' to be whatever type the system'ssys/types.h' defines it to be. Most Unix systems that define size_t in `sys/types.h', define it to be a signed type. Some code in the library depends on size_t being an unsigned type, and will not work correctly if it is signed.

The GNU C library code which expects size_t to be unsigned is correct. The definition of size_t as a signed type is incorrect. We plan that in version 2.4, GCC will always define size_t as an unsigned type, and the fixincludes' script will massage the system'ssys/types.h' so as not to conflict with this.

In the meantime, we work around this problem by telling GCC explicitly to use an unsigned type for size_t when compiling the GNU C library. `configure' will automatically detect what type GCC uses for size_t arrange to override it if necessary.

why should I make a copy of a data frame in pandas

The primary purpose is to avoid chained indexing and eliminate the SettingWithCopyWarning.

Here chained indexing is something like dfc['A'][0] = 111

The document said chained indexing should be avoided in Returning a view versus a copy. Here is a slightly modified example from that document:

In [1]: import pandas as pd

In [2]: dfc = pd.DataFrame({'A':['aaa','bbb','ccc'],'B':[1,2,3]})

In [3]: dfc
Out[3]:
    A   B
0   aaa 1
1   bbb 2
2   ccc 3

In [4]: aColumn = dfc['A']

In [5]: aColumn[0] = 111
SettingWithCopyWarning:
A value is trying to be set on a copy of a slice from a DataFrame

In [6]: dfc
Out[6]:
    A   B
0   111 1
1   bbb 2
2   ccc 3

Here the aColumn is a view and not a copy from the original DataFrame, so modifying aColumn will cause the original dfc be modified too. Next, if we index the row first:

In [7]: zero_row = dfc.loc[0]

In [8]: zero_row['A'] = 222
SettingWithCopyWarning:
A value is trying to be set on a copy of a slice from a DataFrame

In [9]: dfc
Out[9]:
    A   B
0   111 1
1   bbb 2
2   ccc 3

This time zero_row is a copy, so the original dfc is not modified.

From these two examples above, we see it's ambiguous whether or not you want to change the original DataFrame. This is especially dangerous if you write something like the following:

In [10]: dfc.loc[0]['A'] = 333
SettingWithCopyWarning:
A value is trying to be set on a copy of a slice from a DataFrame

In [11]: dfc
Out[11]:
    A   B
0   111 1
1   bbb 2
2   ccc 3

This time it didn't work at all. Here we wanted to change dfc, but we actually modified an intermediate value dfc.loc[0] that is a copy and is discarded immediately. It’s very hard to predict whether the intermediate value like dfc.loc[0] or dfc['A'] is a view or a copy, so it's not guaranteed whether or not original DataFrame will be updated. That's why chained indexing should be avoided, and pandas generates the SettingWithCopyWarning for this kind of chained indexing update.

Now is the use of .copy(). To eliminate the warning, make a copy to express your intention explicitly:

In [12]: zero_row_copy = dfc.loc[0].copy()

In [13]: zero_row_copy['A'] = 444 # This time no warning

Since you are modifying a copy, you know the original dfc will never change and you are not expecting it to change. Your expectation matches the behavior, then the SettingWithCopyWarning disappears.

Note, If you do want to modify the original DataFrame, the document suggests you use loc:

In [14]: dfc.loc[0,'A'] = 555

In [15]: dfc
Out[15]:
    A   B
0   555 1
1   bbb 2
2   ccc 3

Update index after sorting data-frame

df.sort() is deprecated, use df.sort_values(...): https://pandas.pydata.org/pandas-docs/stable/generated/pandas.DataFrame.sort_values.html

Then follow joris' answer by doing df.reset_index(drop=True)

How to use bitmask?

Let's say I have 32-bit ARGB value with 8-bits per channel. I want to replace the alpha component with another alpha value, such as 0x45

unsigned long alpha = 0x45
unsigned long pixel = 0x12345678;
pixel = ((pixel & 0x00FFFFFF) | (alpha << 24));

The mask turns the top 8 bits to 0, where the old alpha value was. The alpha value is shifted up to the final bit positions it will take, then it is OR-ed into the masked pixel value. The final result is 0x45345678 which is stored into pixel.

How do I modify the URL without reloading the page?

Below is the function to change the URL without reloading the page. It is only supported for HTML5.

            history.pushState(obj, obj.Page, obj.Url);
        } else {
            window.location.href = "homePage";
            // alert("Browser does not support HTML5.");
        }
    }

  ChangeUrl('Page1', 'homePage');

How to set environment variables from within package.json?

use git bash in windows. Git Bash processes commands differently than cmd.

Most Windows command prompts will choke when you set environment variables with NODE_ENV=production like that. (The exception is Bash on Windows, which uses native Bash.) Similarly, there's a difference in how windows and POSIX commands utilize environment variables. With POSIX, you use: $ENV_VAR and on windows you use %ENV_VAR%. - cross-env doc

Check If array is null or not in php

you can use

empty($result)

to check if the main array is empty or not.

But since you have a SimpleXMLElement object, you need to query the object if it is empty or not. See http://www.php.net/manual/en/simplexmlelement.count.php

ex:

if (empty($result) || !isset($result['Tags'])) {
    return false;
}
if ( !($result['Tags'] instanceof SimpleXMLElement)) {
    return false;
}
return ($result['Tags']->count());

python variable NameError

In addition to the missing quotes around 100Mb in the last else, you also want to quote the constants in your if-statements if tSizeAns == "1":, because raw_input returns a string, which in comparison with an integer will always return false.

However the missing quotes are not the reason for the particular error message, because it would result in an syntax error before execution. Please check your posted code. I cannot reproduce the error message.

Also if ... elif ... else in the way you use it is basically equivalent to a case or switch in other languages and is neither less readable nor much longer. It is fine to use here. One other way that might be a good idea to use if you just want to assign a value based on another value is a dictionary lookup:

tSize = {"1": "100Mb", "2": "200Mb"}[tSizeAns]

This however does only work as long as tSizeAns is guaranteed to be in the range of tSize. Otherwise you would have to either catch the KeyError exception or use a defaultdict:

lookup = {"1": "100Mb", "2": "200Mb"} try:     tSize = lookup[tSizeAns] except KeyError:     tSize = "100Mb"

or

from collections import defaultdict  [...]  lookup = defaultdict(lambda: "100Mb", {"1": "100Mb", "2": "200Mb"}) tSize = lookup[tSizeAns]

In your case I think these methods are not justified for two values. However you could use the dictionary to construct the initial output at the same time.

How do I run a class in a WAR from the command line?

If you're using Maven, just follow the maven-war-plugin documentation about "How do I create a JAR containing the classes in my webapp?": add <attachClasses>true</attachClasses> to the <configuration> of the plugin:

<project>
  ...
  <artifactId>mywebapp</artifactId>
  <version>1.0-SNAPSHOT</version>
  ...
  <build>
    <plugins>
      <plugin>
    <artifactId>maven-war-plugin</artifactId>
    <version>2.6</version>
    <configuration>
      <attachClasses>true</attachClasses>
    </configuration>
      </plugin>
    </plugins>
  </build>
  ...
</project>

The you will have 2 products in the target/ folder:

  • The project.war itself
  • The project-classes.jar which contains all the compiled classes in a jar

Then you will be able to execute a main class using classic method: java -cp target/project-classes.jar 'com.mycompany.MainClass' param1 param2

Transfer git repositories from GitLab to GitHub - can we, how to and pitfalls (if any)?

This is very easy by import repository feature Login to github.com,

Side of profile picture you will find + button click on that then there will be option to import repository. you will find page like this. enter image description here Your old repository’s clone URL is required which is gitlab repo url in your case. then select Owner and then type name for this repo and click to begin import button.

Git - Won't add files?

How about the standard procedure:

git add folder
git commit

This will add the folder and all it's files with a single command.
Please note, git is not able to store empty folders.

If commit didn't worked, the first place you should check is probably .gitignore.

What causing this "Invalid length for a Base-64 char array"

This is because of a huge view state, In my case I got lucky since I was not using the viewstate. I just added enableviewstate="false" on the form tag and view state went from 35k to 100 chars

R plot: size and resolution

A reproducible example:

the_plot <- function()
{
  x <- seq(0, 1, length.out = 100)
  y <- pbeta(x, 1, 10)
  plot(
    x,
    y,
    xlab = "False Positive Rate",
    ylab = "Average true positive rate",
    type = "l"
  )
}

James's suggestion of using pointsize, in combination with the various cex parameters, can produce reasonable results.

png(
  "test.png",
  width     = 3.25,
  height    = 3.25,
  units     = "in",
  res       = 1200,
  pointsize = 4
)
par(
  mar      = c(5, 5, 2, 2),
  xaxs     = "i",
  yaxs     = "i",
  cex.axis = 2,
  cex.lab  = 2
)
the_plot()
dev.off()

Of course the better solution is to abandon this fiddling with base graphics and use a system that will handle the resolution scaling for you. For example,

library(ggplot2)

ggplot_alternative <- function()
{
  the_data <- data.frame(
    x <- seq(0, 1, length.out = 100),
    y = pbeta(x, 1, 10)
  )

ggplot(the_data, aes(x, y)) +
    geom_line() +
    xlab("False Positive Rate") +
    ylab("Average true positive rate") +
    coord_cartesian(0:1, 0:1)
}

ggsave(
  "ggtest.png",
  ggplot_alternative(),
  width = 3.25,
  height = 3.25,
  dpi = 1200
)

How to hide only the Close (x) button?

Well you can hide the close button by changing the FormBorderStyle from the properties section or programmatically in the constructor using:

public Form1()
{
InitializeComponent();
this.FormBorderStyle = FormBorderStyle.None;
}

then you create a menu strip item to exit the application.

Merge development branch with master

I generally like to merge master into the development first so that if there are any conflicts, I can resolve in the development branch itself and my master remains clean.

(on branch development)$ git merge master
(resolve any merge conflicts if there are any)
git checkout master
git merge development (there won't be any conflicts now)

There isn't much of a difference in the two approaches, but I have noticed sometimes that I don't want to merge the branch into master yet, after merging them, or that there is still more work to be done before these can be merged, so I tend to leave master untouched until final stuff.

EDIT: From comments

If you want to keep track of who did the merge and when, you can use --no-ff flag while merging to do so. This is generally useful only when merging development into the master (last step), because you might need to merge master into development (first step) multiple times in your workflow, and creating a commit node for these might not be very useful.

git merge --no-ff development

T-SQL How to create tables dynamically in stored procedures?

First up, you seem to be mixing table variables and tables.

Either way, You can't pass in the table's name like that. You would have to use dynamic TSQL to do that.

If you just want to declare a table variable:

CREATE PROC sp_createATable
  @name        VARCHAR(10),
  @properties  VARCHAR(500)
AS
  declare @tablename TABLE
  (
    id  CHAR(10)  PRIMARY KEY
  );

The fact that you want to create a stored procedure to dynamically create tables might suggest your design is wrong.

Sending the bearer token with axios

Here is a unique way of setting Authorization token in axios. Setting configuration to every axios call is not a good idea and you can change the default Authorization token by:

import axios from 'axios';
axios.defaults.baseURL = 'http://localhost:1010/'
axios.defaults.headers.common = {'Authorization': `bearer ${token}`}
export default axios;

Edit, Thanks to Jason Norwood-Young.

Some API require bearer to be written as Bearer, so you can do:

axios.defaults.headers.common = {'Authorization': `Bearer ${token}`}

Now you don't need to set configuration to every API call. Now Authorization token is set to every axios call.

How to remove "disabled" attribute using jQuery?

Always use the prop() method to enable or disable elements when using jQuery (see below for why).

In your case, it would be:

$("#edit").click(function(event){
   event.preventDefault();
   $('.inputDisabled').prop("disabled", false); // Element(s) are now enabled.
});

jsFiddle example here.

Why use prop() when you could use attr()/removeAttr() to do this?

Basically, prop() should be used when getting or setting properties (such as autoplay, checked, disabled and required amongst others).

By using removeAttr(), you are completely removing the disabled attribute itself - while prop() is merely setting the property's underlying boolean value to false.

While what you want to do can be done using attr()/removeAttr(), it doesn't mean it should be done (and can cause strange/problematic behaviour, as in this case).

The following extracts (taken from the jQuery documentation for prop()) explain these points in greater detail:

"The difference between attributes and properties can be important in specific situations. Before jQuery 1.6, the .attr() method sometimes took property values into account when retrieving some attributes, which could cause inconsistent behavior. As of jQuery 1.6, the .prop() method provides a way to explicitly retrieve property values, while .attr() retrieves attributes."

"Properties generally affect the dynamic state of a DOM element without changing the serialized HTML attribute. Examples include the value property of input elements, the disabled property of inputs and buttons, or the checked property of a checkbox. The .prop() method should be used to set disabled and checked instead of the .attr() method. The .val() method should be used for getting and setting value."

Convert string to Python class object?

In terms of arbitrary code execution, or undesired user passed names, you could have a list of acceptable function/class names, and if the input matches one in the list, it is eval'd.

And to write this block in another line/file, go to the desired position and execute next command (insert file written before):

Full Screen DialogFragment in Android

This is what you need to set to fragment:

/* theme is optional, I am using leanback... */
setStyle(STYLE_NORMAL, R.style.AppTheme_Leanback);

In your case:

DialogFragment newFragment = new DetailsDialogFragment();
newFragment.setStyle(STYLE_NORMAL, R.style.AppTheme_Leanback);
newFragment.show(ft, "dialog");

And why? Because DialogFragment (when not told explicitly), will use its inner styles that will wrap your custom layout in it (no fullscreen, etc.).

And layout? No hacky way needed, this is working just fine:

            android:layout_width="match_parent"
            android:layout_height="match_parent">

Toggle input disabled attribute using jQuery

This is fairly simple with the callback syntax of attr:

$("#product1 :checkbox").click(function(){
  $(this)
   .closest('tr') // find the parent row
       .find(":input[type='text']") // find text elements in that row
           .attr('disabled',function(idx, oldAttr) {

           })
           .toggleClass('disabled') // enable them
       .end() // go back to the row
       .siblings() // get its siblings
           .find(":input[type='text']") // find text elements in those rows
               .attr('disabled',function(idx, oldAttr) {

Convert Select Columns in Pandas Dataframe to Numpy Array

The columns parameter accepts a collection of column names. You're passing a list containing a dataframe with two rows:

>>> [df[1:]]
[  viz  a1_count  a1_mean  a1_std
1   n         0      NaN     NaN
2   n         2       51      50]
>>> df.as_matrix(columns=[df[1:]])
array([[ nan,  nan],
       [ nan,  nan],
       [ nan,  nan]])

Instead, pass the column names you want:

>>> df.columns[1:]
Index(['a1_count', 'a1_mean', 'a1_std'], dtype='object')
>>> df.as_matrix(columns=df.columns[1:])
array([[  3.      ,   2.      ,   0.816497],
       [  0.      ,        nan,        nan],

ES6 exporting/importing in index file

Simply:

// Default export (recommended)
export {default} from './MyClass'

// Default export with alias
export {default as d1} from './MyClass'

// In >ES7, it could be
export * from './MyClass'

// In >ES7, with alias
export * as d1 from './MyClass'

Or by functions names :

// export by function names
export { funcName1, funcName2, …} from './MyClass'

// export by aliases
export { funcName1 as f1, funcName2 as f2, …} from './MyClass'

How to create a circle icon button in Flutter?

I used this one because I like the customisation of the border-radius and size.

  Material( // pause button (round)
    borderRadius: BorderRadius.circular(50), // change radius size
    color: Colors.blue, //button colour
    child: InkWell(
      splashColor: Colors.blue[900], // inkwell onPress colour
      child: SizedBox(
        width: 35,height: 35, //customisable size of 'button'
        child: Icon(Icons.pause,color: Colors.white,size: 16,),
      ),
      onTap: () {}, // or use onPressed: () {}
    ),
  ),

  Material( // eye button (customised radius)
    borderRadius: BorderRadius.only(
        topRight: Radius.circular(10.0),
        bottomLeft: Radius.circular(50.0),),
    color: Colors.blue,
    child: InkWell(
      splashColor: Colors.blue[900], // inkwell onPress colour
      child: SizedBox(
        width: 40, height: 40, //customisable size of 'button'
        child: Icon(Icons.remove_red_eye,color: Colors.white,size: 16,),),

Can't Autowire @Repository annotated interface in Spring Boot

I had a similar issue where I was receiving NoSuchBeanDefinitionException in Spring Boot (basically while working on CRUD repository), I had to put the below annotations on the main class:

@SpringBootApplication
@EnableAutoConfiguration
@ComponentScan(basePackages={"<base package name>"})
@EnableJpaRepositories(basePackages="<repository package name>")
@EnableTransactionManagement
@EntityScan(basePackages="<entity package name>")

Also, make sure you have the @Component annotations in place on the implementations.

Laravel - display a PDF file in storage without forcing download?

In Laravel 5.5 you can just pass "inline" as the disposition parameter of the download function:

return response()->download('/path/to/file.pdf', 'example.pdf', [], 'inline');

java: run a function after a specific number of seconds

All other unswers require to run your code inside a new thread. In some simple use cases you may just want to wait a bit and continue execution within the same thread/flow.

Code below demonstrates that technique. Keep in mind this is similar to what java.util.Timer does under the hood but more lightweight.

import java.util.concurrent.TimeUnit;
public class DelaySample {
    public static void main(String[] args) {
       DelayUtil d = new DelayUtil();
       System.out.println("started:"+ new Date());
       d.delay(500);
       System.out.println("half second after:"+ new Date());
       d.delay(1, TimeUnit.MINUTES);
       System.out.println("1 minute after:"+ new Date());
    }
}

DelayUtil Implementation

import java.util.concurrent.TimeUnit;
import java.util.concurrent.locks.Condition;
import java.util.concurrent.locks.ReentrantLock;

public class DelayUtil {
    /**
    * Delays the current thread execution.
    * The thread loses ownership of any monitors.
    * Quits immediately if the thread is interrupted
    *
    * @param duration the time duration in milliseconds
    */
   public void delay(final long durationInMillis) {
      delay(durationInMillis, TimeUnit.MILLISECONDS);
   }

   /**
    * @param duration the time duration in the given {@code sourceUnit}
    * @param unit
    */
    public void delay(final long duration, final TimeUnit unit) {
        long currentTime = System.currentTimeMillis();
        long deadline = currentTime+unit.toMillis(duration);
        ReentrantLock lock = new ReentrantLock();
        Condition waitCondition = lock.newCondition();

        while ((deadline-currentTime)>0) {
            try {
                lock.lockInterruptibly();
                waitCondition.await(deadline-currentTime, TimeUnit.MILLISECONDS);
            } catch (InterruptedException e) {
                Thread.currentThread().interrupt();
                return;
            } finally {
                lock.unlock();
            }
            currentTime = System.currentTimeMillis();
        }
    }

Checkbox for nullable boolean

The cleanest approach I could come up with is to expand the extensions available to HtmlHelper while still reusing functionality provided by the framework.

public static MvcHtmlString CheckBoxFor<T>(this HtmlHelper<T> htmlHelper, Expression<Func<T, bool?>> expression, IDictionary<string, object> htmlAttributes) {

    ModelMetadata modelMeta = ModelMetadata.FromLambdaExpression(expression, htmlHelper.ViewData);
    bool? value = (modelMeta.Model as bool?);

    string name = ExpressionHelper.GetExpressionText(expression);

    return htmlHelper.CheckBox(name, value ?? false, htmlAttributes);
}

I experimented with 'shaping' the expression to allow a straight pass through to the native CheckBoxFor<Expression<Func<T, bool>>> but I don't think it's possible.

Why is the parent div height zero when it has floated children

Content that is floating does not influence the height of its container. The element contains no content that isn't floating (so nothing stops the height of the container being 0, as if it were empty).

Setting overflow: hidden on the container will avoid that by establishing a new block formatting context. See methods for containing floats for other techniques and containing floats for an explanation about why CSS was designed this way.

Try using the COLUMN command with the FORMAT option for that:

COLUMN COLUMN_NAME FORMAT 99.99

Check whether an input string contains a number in javascript

You can also try lodash:

const isNumeric = number =>
  _.isFinite(_.parseInt(number)) && !_.isNaN(_.parseInt(number))

Escaping Strings in JavaScript

You can also try this for the double quotes:

JSON.stringify(sDemoString).slice(1, -1);
JSON.stringify('my string with "quotes"').slice(1, -1);

Axios Delete request with body and headers?

axios.delete(url, {data:{username:"user", password:"pass"}, headers:{Authorization: "token"}})

Set UITableView content inset permanently

Probably it was some sort of my mistake because of me messing with autolayouts and storyboard but I found an answer.

You have to take care of this little guy in View Controller's Attribute Inspector asvi

It must be unchecked so the default contentInset wouldn't be set after any change. After that it is just adding one-liner to viewDidLoad:

[self.tableView setContentInset:UIEdgeInsetsMake(108, 0, 0, 0)]; // 108 is only example

iOS 11, Xcode 9 update

Looks like the previous solution is no longer a correct one if it comes to iOS 11 and Xcode 9. automaticallyAdjustsScrollViewInsets has been deprecated and right now to achieve similar effect you have to go to Size Inspector where you can find this: enter image description here
Also, you can achieve the same in code:

if #available(iOS 11.0, *) {
    scrollView.contentInsetAdjustmentBehavior = .never
} else {
    automaticallyAdjustsScrollViewInsets = false
}

How to import a class from default package

Classes in the default package cannot be imported by classes in packages. This is why you should not use the default package.

What does (function($) {})(jQuery); mean?

At the most basic level, something of the form (function(){...})() is a function literal that is executed immediately. What this means is that you have defined a function and you are calling it immediately.

This form is useful for information hiding and encapsulation since anything you define inside that function remains local to that function and inaccessible from the outside world (unless you specifically expose it - usually via a returned object literal).

A variation of this basic form is what you see in jQuery plugins (or in this module pattern in general). Hence:

(function($) {
  ...
})(jQuery);

Which means you're passing in a reference to the actual jQuery object, but it's known as $ within the scope of the function literal.

Type 1 isn't really a plugin. You're simply assigning an object literal to jQuery.fn. Typically you assign a function to jQuery.fn as plugins are usually just functions.

Type 2 is similar to Type 1; you aren't really creating a plugin here. You're simply adding an object literal to jQuery.fn.

Type 3 is a plugin, but it's not the best or easiest way to create one.

To understand more about this, take a look at this similar question and answer. Also, this page goes into some detail about authoring plugins.

How to get file URL using Storage facade in laravel 5?

If you just want to display storage (disk) path use this:

Storage::disk('local')->url('screenshots/1.jpg'); // storage/screenshots/1.jpg
Storage::disk('local')->url(''): // storage

Also, if you are interested, I created a package (https://github.com/fsasvari/laravel-uploadify) just for Laravel so you can use all those fields on Eloquent model fields:

$car = Car::first();

$car->upload_cover_image->url();
$car->upload_cover_image->name();
$car->upload_cover_image->basename();
$car->upload_cover_image->extension();
$car->upload_cover_image->filesize();

how to save DOMPDF generated content to file?

I have just used dompdf and the code was a little different but it worked.

Here it is:

require_once("./pdf/dompdf_config.inc.php");
$files = glob("./pdf/include/*.php");
foreach($files as $file) include_once($file);

$html =
      '<html><body>'.
      '<p>Put your html here, or generate it with your favourite '.
      'templating system.</p>'.
      '</body></html>';

    $dompdf = new DOMPDF();
    $dompdf->load_html($html);
    $dompdf->render();
    $output = $dompdf->output();
    file_put_contents('Brochure.pdf', $output);

Only difference here is that all of the files in the include directory are included.

Other than that my only suggestion would be to specify a full directory path for writing the file rather than just the filename.

Synchronous request in Node.js

You could do this using my Common Node library:

function get(url) {
  return new (require('httpclient').HttpClient)({
    method: 'GET',
      url: url
    }).finish().body.read().decodeToString();
}

var a = get('www.example.com/api_1.php'),
    b = get('www.example.com/api_2.php'),
    c = get('www.example.com/api_3.php');

"Strict Standards: Only variables should be passed by reference" error

array_shift the only parameter is an array passed by reference. The return value of explode(".", $value) does not have any reference. Hence the error.

You should store the return value to a variable first.

    $arr = explode(".", $value);
    $extension = strtolower(array_pop($arr));
    $fileName = array_shift($arr);

From PHP.net

The following things can be passed by reference:

- Variables, i.e. foo($a)
- New statements, i.e. foo(new foobar())
- [References returned from functions][2]

No other expressions should be passed by reference, as the result is undefined. For example, the following examples of passing by reference are invalid:

Windows could not start the SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER) on Local Computer... (error code 3417)

In my particular case, I fixed this error by looking in the Event Viewer to get a clue as to the source of the issue:

enter image description here

I then followed the steps outlined at Rebuilding Master Database in SQL Server.

Note: Take some good backups first. After erasing the master database, you will have to attach to all of your existing databases again by browsing to the .mdf files.

In my particular case, the command to rebuild the master database was:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\110\Setup Bootstrap\SQLServer2012>setup /ACTION=rebuilddatabase /INSTANCENAME=MSSQLSERVER /SQLSYSADMINACCOUNTS=mike /sapwd=[insert password]

Note that this will reset SQL server to its defaults, so you will have to hope that you can restore the master database from E:\backup\master.bak. I couldn't find this file, so attached the existing databases (by browsing to the existing .mdf files), and everything was back to normal.

After fixing everything, I created a maintenance plan to back up everything, including the master database, on a weekly basis.

In my particular case, this whole issue was caused by a Seagate hard drive getting bad sectors a couple of months after its 2-year warranty period expired. Most of the Seagate drives I have ever owned have ended up expiring either before or shortly after warranty - so I'm avoiding Seagate like the plague now!!

Angular JS update input field after change

I'm guessing that when you enter a value into the totals field that value expression somehow gets overwritten.

However, you can take an alternative approach: Create a field for the total value and when either one or two changes update that field.

<li>Total <input type="text" ng-model="total">{{total}}</li>

And change the javascript:

function TodoCtrl($scope) {
    $scope.$watch('one * two', function (value) {
        $scope.total = value;
    });
}

Example fiddle here.

AngularJS resource promise

If you're looking to get promise in resource call, you should use

Regions.query().$q.then(function(){ .... })

Update : the promise syntax is changed in current versions which reads

Regions.query().$promise.then(function(){ ..... })

Those who have downvoted don't know what it was and who first added this promise to resource object. I used this feature in late 2012 - yes 2012.

What is the final version of the ADT Bundle?

What's the difference between Thread start() and Runnable run()

First example: No multiple threads. Both execute in single (existing) thread. No thread creation.

R1 r1 = new R1();
R2 r2 = new R2();

r1 and r2 are just two different objects of classes that implement the Runnable interface and thus implement the run() method. When you call r1.run() you are executing it in the current thread.

Second example: Two separate threads.

Thread t1 = new Thread(r1);
Thread t2 = new Thread(r2);

t1 and t2 are objects of the class Thread. When you call t1.start(), it starts a new thread and calls the run() method of r1 internally to execute it within that new thread.

Error: Tablespace for table xxx exists. Please DISCARD the tablespace before IMPORT

If you get the .idb recreated again after you delete it, then read this answer.

This how it worked with me. I had the .idb file without it's corresponding .frm and whenever I delete the .idb file, the database recreate it again. and I found the solution in one line in MySQL documentation (Tablespace Does Not Exist part)

1- Create a matching .frm file in some other database directory and copy it to the database directory where the orphan table is located.

2- Issue DROP TABLE for the original table. That should successfully drop the table and InnoDB should print a warning to the error log that the .ibd file was missing.

I copied another table .frm file and name it like my missing table, then make a normal drop table query and voila, it worked and the table is dropped normally!

How to increase the timeout period of web service in asp.net?

you can do this in different ways:

  1. Setting a timeout in the web service caller from code (not 100% sure but I think I have seen this done);
  2. Setting a timeout in the constructor of the web service proxy in the web references;
  3. Setting a timeout in the server side, web.config of the web service application.

see here for more details on the second case:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff647786.aspx#scalenetchapt10_topic14

Delete directory with files in it?

Litle bit modify of alcuadrado's code - glob don't see files with name from points like .htaccess so I use scandir and script deletes itself - check __FILE__.

    }
    $files = scandir($dirPath);
    foreach ($files as $file) {
        if ($file === '.' || $file === '..') continue;
        if (is_dir($dirPath.$file)) {
            deleteDir($dirPath.$file);
        } else {
            if ($dirPath.$file !== __FILE__) {
                unlink($dirPath.$file);
            }
        }
    }
    rmdir($dirPath);

How to Resize image in Swift?

Since @KiritModi 's answer is from 2015, this is the Swift 3.0's version:

func resizeImage(image: UIImage, targetSize: CGSize) -> UIImage {
    let size = image.size

    let widthRatio  = targetSize.width  / image.size.width
    let heightRatio = targetSize.height / image.size.height

    // Figure out what our orientation is, and use that to form the rectangle
    var newSize: CGSize
    if(widthRatio > heightRatio) {
        newSize = CGSize(width: size.width * heightRatio, height: size.height * heightRatio)
    } else {
        newSize = CGSize(width: size.width * widthRatio,  height: size.height * widthRatio)
    }

    // This is the rect that we've calculated out and this is what is actually used below
    let rect = CGRect(x: 0, y: 0, width: newSize.width, height: newSize.height)

    // Actually do the resizing to the rect using the ImageContext stuff
    UIGraphicsBeginImageContextWithOptions(newSize, false, 1.0)
    image.draw(in: rect)
    let newImage = UIGraphicsGetImageFromCurrentImageContext()
    UIGraphicsEndImageContext()

    return newImage!
}

Is there a CSS parent selector?

Try this...

This solution uses plain CSS1 with no Javascript and works in all browsers, old and new. When clicked, the child anchor tag activates its active pseudo-class event. It then simply hides itself, allowing the active event to bubble up to the parent li tag who then restyles himself and reveals his anchor child again with a new style. The child has styled the parent.

Using your example:

<ul>
    <li class="listitem">
        <a class="link" href="#">This is a Link</a>
    </li>
</ul>

Now apply these styles with the active pseudo-class on a to restyle the parent li tag when the link is clicked:

a.link {
    display: inline-block;
    color: white;
    background-color: green;
    text-decoration: none;
    padding: 5px;
}

li.listitem {
    display: inline-block;
    margin: 0;
    padding: 0;
    background-color: transparent;
}

/* When this 'active' pseudo-class event below fires on click, it hides itself,
triggering the active event again on its parent which applies new styles to itself and its child. */

a.link:active {
    display: none;
}

.listitem:active {
    background-color: blue;
}

.listitem:active a.link {
    display: inline-block;
    background-color: transparent;
}

You should see the link with a green background now change to the list item's blue background on click.

turns to

on click.

How can I temporarily disable a foreign key constraint in MySQL?

To turn off foreign key constraint globally, do the following:

SET GLOBAL FOREIGN_KEY_CHECKS=0;

and remember to set it back when you are done

SET GLOBAL FOREIGN_KEY_CHECKS=1;

WARNING: You should only do this when you are doing single user mode maintenance. As it might resulted in data inconsistency. For example, it will be very helpful when you are uploading large amount of data using a mysqldump output.

How to improve a case statement that uses two columns

You could do it this way:

-- Notice how STATE got moved inside the condition:
CASE WHEN STATE = 2 AND RetailerProcessType IN (1, 2) THEN '"AUTHORISED"'
     WHEN STATE = 1 AND RetailerProcessType = 2 THEN '"PENDING"'
     ELSE '"DECLINED"'
END

The reason you can do an AND here is that you are not checking the CASE of STATE, but instead you are CASING Conditions.

The key part here is that the STATE condition is a part of the WHEN.

Styling Form with Label above Inputs

There is no need to add any extra div wrapper as others suggest.

The simplest way is to wrap your input element inside a related label tag and set input style to display:block.

Bonus point earned: now you don't need to set the labels for attribute. Because every label target the nested input.

PDB is a debug information file used by Visual Studio. These are system DLLs, which you don't have debug symbols for. Go to Tools->Options->Debugging->Symbols and select checkbox "Microsoft Symbol Servers", Visual Studio will download PDBs automatically. Or you may just ignore these warnings if you don't need to see correct call stack in these modules.

Convert dateTime to ISO format yyyy-mm-dd hh:mm:ss in C#

To add a little bit more information that confused me; I had always thought the same result could be achieved like so;

theDate.ToString("yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss")

However, If your Current Culture doesn't use a colon(:) as the hour separator, and instead uses a full-stop(.) it could return as follow:

2009-06-15 13.45.30

Just wanted to add why the answer provided needs to be as it is;

theDate.ToString("yyyy-MM-dd HH':'mm':'ss")

Change File Extension Using C#

The method GetFileNameWithoutExtension, as the name implies, does not return the extension on the file. In your case, it would only return "a". You want to append your ".Jpeg" to that result. However, at a different level, this seems strange, as image files have different metadata and cannot be converted so easily.

One work-around is to right-click on the result set and select "Save Results As...". This exports it to a CSV file with the entire contents of the column. Not perfect but worked well enough for me.

How to erase the file contents of text file in Python?

You cannot "erase" from a file in-place unless you need to erase the end. Either be content with an overwrite of an "empty" value, or read the parts of the file you care about and write it to another file.

In C#, why is String a reference type that behaves like a value type?

The distinction between reference types and value types are basically a performance tradeoff in the design of the language. Reference types have some overhead on construction and destruction and garbage collection, because they are created on the heap. Value types on the other hand have overhead on method calls (if the data size is larger than a pointer), because the whole object is copied rather than just a pointer. Because strings can be (and typically are) much larger than the size of a pointer, they are designed as reference types. Also, as Servy pointed out, the size of a value type must be known at compile time, which is not always the case for strings.

The question of mutability is a separate issue. Both reference types and value types can be either mutable or immutable. Value types are typically immutable though, since the semantics for mutable value types can be confusing.

Reference types are generally mutable, but can be designed as immutable if it makes sense. Strings are defined as immutable because it makes certain optimizations possible. For example, if the same string literal occurs multiple times in the same program (which is quite common), the compiler can reuse the same object.

So why is "==" overloaded to compare strings by text? Because it is the most useful semantics. If two strings are equal by text, they may or may not be the same object reference due to the optimizations. So comparing references are pretty useless, while comparing text are almost always what you want.

Speaking more generally, Strings has what is termed value semantics. This is a more general concept than value types, which is a C# specific implementation detail. Value types have value semantics, but reference types may also have value semantics. When a type have value semantics, you can't really tell if the underlying implementation is a reference type or value type, so you can consider that an implementation detail.

How to reset form body in bootstrap modal box?

This is a variance of need to reset body to original content. It doesn't deal with a form but I feel it might be of some use. If the original content was a ton of html, it is very difficult to string out the html and store it to a variable. Javascript does not take kindly to the line breaks that VS 2015/whatever allows. So I store original ton of html in default modal like this on page load:

var stylesString = $('#DefaultModal .modal-body').html();

Which allows me to to reuse this content when original default button for modal is pressed (there are other buttons that show other content in same modal).

$("#btnStyles").click(function () {
    //pass the data in the modal body adding html elements
    $('#DefaultModal .modal-body').html(stylesString);
 $('#DefaultModal').modal('show');
})

If I put an alert for the styleString variable it would have an endless string of all the html with no breaks but does it for me and keeps it out of VS editor.

Here is how it looks in Visual Studio inside default modal. Saved in the string variable whether automatic (.html) or by hand in VS, it would be one big line:

<div class="modal-body" id="modalbody">

    <div class="whatdays"><span style="background-color:black;color:white;padding:4px 4px 4px 4px;border:2px solid yellow;">All Styles</span></div>

Java dynamic array sizes?

As other users say, you probably need an implementation of java.util.List.

If, for some reason, you finally need an array, you can do two things:

  • Use a List and then convert it to an array with myList.toArray()

  • Use an array of certain size. If you need more or less size, you can modify it with java.util.Arrays methods.

Best solution will depend on your problem ;)

How can I compile LaTeX in UTF8?

I'm not sure whether I got your problem but maybe it helps if you store the source using a UTF-8 encoding.

I'm also using \usepackage[utf8]{inputenc} in my LaTeX sources and by storing the files as UTF-8 files everything works just peachy.

How can I make my website's background transparent without making the content (images & text) transparent too?

I would agree with @evillinux, It would be best to make your background image semi transparent so it supports < ie8

The other suggestions of using another div are also a great option, and it's the way to go if you want to do this in css. For example if the site had such features as selecting your own background color. I would suggest using a filter for older IE. eg:

filter:Alpha(opacity=50)

SyntaxError: expected expression, got '<'

I had this same error when I migrated a Wordpress site to another server. The URL in the header for my js scripts was still pointing to the old server and domain name.

Once I updated the domain name, the error went away.

Very Simple, Very Smooth, JavaScript Marquee

Responsive resist jQuery marquee simple plugin. Tutorial:

// start plugin
    (function($){
        $.fn.marque = function(options, callback){

            // check callback

            if(typeof callback == 'function'){
                callback.call(this);
            } else{
                console.log("second argument (callback) is not a function");
                // throw "callback must be a function"; //only if callback for some reason is required
                // return this; //only if callback for some reason is required
            }

            //set and overwrite default functions
            var defOptions = $.extend({
                speedPixelsInOneSecound: 150, //speed will behave same for different screen where duration will be different for each size of the screen
                select: $('.message div'),
                clickSelect: '', // selector that on click will redirect user ... (optional)
                clickUrl: '' //... to this url. (optional)
            }, options);

            //Run marque plugin
            var windowWidth = $(window).width();
            var textWidth = defOptions.select.outerWidth();
            var duration = (windowWidth + textWidth) * 1000 / defOptions.speedPixelsInOneSecound;
            var startingPosition = (windowWidth + textWidth);
            var curentPosition = (windowWidth + textWidth);
            var speedProportionToLocation = curentPosition / startingPosition;
            defOptions.select.css({'right': -(textWidth)});
            defOptions.select.show();
            var animation;

            function marquee(animation){
                curentPosition = (windowWidth + defOptions.select.outerWidth());
                speedProportionToLocation = curentPosition / startingPosition;
                animation = defOptions.select.animate({'right': windowWidth+'px'}, duration * speedProportionToLocation, "linear", function(){
                     defOptions.select.css({'right': -(textWidth)});
                });
            }
            var play = setInterval(marquee, 200);

            //add onclick behaviour
            if(defOptions.clickSelect != '' && defOptions.clickUrl != ''){
                defOptions.clickSelect.click(function(){
                    window.location.href = defOptions.clickUrl;
                });
            }
            return this;
        };

    }(jQuery));
// end plugin

Use this custom jQuery plugin as bellow:

//use example
$(window).marque({
    speedPixelsInOneSecound: 150, // spped pixels/secound
    select: $('.message div'), // select an object on which you want to apply marquee effects.
    clickSelect: $('.message'), // select clicable object (optional)
    clickUrl: 'services.php' // define redirection url (optional)
});

relative path to CSS file

You have to move the css folder into your web folder. It seems that your web folder on the hard drive equals the /ServletApp folder as seen from the www. Other content than inside your web folder cannot be accessed from the browsers.

The url of the CSS link is then

 <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="/ServletApp/css/styles.css"/>

Removing "bullets" from unordered list <ul>

You can remove the "bullets" by setting the "list-style-type: none;" Like

ul
{
    list-style-type: none;
}

OR

<ul class="menu custompozition4"  style="list-style-type: none;">
    <li class="item-507"><a href=#">Strategic Recruitment Solutions</a>
    </li>
    <li class="item-508"><a href="#">Executive Recruitment</a>
    </li>
    <li class="item-509"><a href="#">Leadership Development</a>
    </li>
    <li class="item-510"><a href="#">Executive Capability Review</a>
    </li>
    <li class="item-511"><a href="#">Board and Executive Coaching</a>
    </li>
    <li class="item-512"><a href="#">Cross Cultutral Coaching</a>
    </li>
    <li class="item-513"><a href="#">Team Enhancement &amp; Coaching</a>

Extracting double-digit months and days from a Python date

you can use a string formatter to pad any integer with zeros. It acts just like C's printf.

>>> d = datetime.date.today()
>>> '%02d' % d.month
'03'

Updated for py36: Use f-strings! For general ints you can use the d formatter and explicitly tell it to pad with zeros:

 >>> d = datetime.date.today()
 >>> f"{d.month:02d}"
 '07'

But datetimes are special and come with special formatters that are already zero padded:

 >>> f"{d:%d}"  # the day
 '01'
 >>> f"{d:%m}"  # the month
 '07'

Show loading gif after clicking form submit using jQuery

Better and clean example using JS only

Reference: TheDeveloperBlog.com

Step 1 - Create your java script and place it in your HTML page.

<script type="text/javascript">
    function ShowLoading(e) {
        var div = document.createElement('div');
        var img = document.createElement('img');
        img.src = 'loading_bar.GIF';
        div.innerHTML = "Loading...<br />";
        div.style.cssText = 'position: fixed; top: 5%; left: 40%; z-index: 5000; width: 422px; text-align: center; background: #EDDBB0; border: 1px solid #000';
        div.appendChild(img);
        document.body.appendChild(div);
        return true;
        // These 2 lines cancel form submission, so only use if needed.
        //window.event.cancelBubble = true;
        //e.stopPropagation();
    }
</script>

in your form call the java script function on submit event.

<form runat="server"  onsubmit="ShowLoading()">
</form>

Soon after you submit the form, it will show you the loading image.

Is there a way to crack the password on an Excel VBA Project?

I've built upon Ð?c Thanh Nguy?n's fantastic answer to allow this method to work with 64-bit versions of Excel. I'm running Excel 2010 64-Bit on 64-Bit Windows 7.

  1. Open the file(s) that contain your locked VBA Projects.

Get the difference between dates in terms of weeks, months, quarters, and years

For weeks, you can use function difftime:

date1 <- strptime("14.01.2013", format="%d.%m.%Y")
date2 <- strptime("26.03.2014", format="%d.%m.%Y")
difftime(date2,date1,units="weeks")
Time difference of 62.28571 weeks

But difftime doesn't work with duration over weeks.
The following is a very suboptimal solution using cut.POSIXt for those durations but you can work around it:

seq1 <- seq(date1,date2, by="days")
nlevels(cut(seq1,"months"))
15
nlevels(cut(seq1,"quarters"))
5
nlevels(cut(seq1,"years"))
2

This is however the number of months, quarters or years spanned by your time interval and not the duration of your time interval expressed in months, quarters, years (since those do not have a constant duration). Considering the comment you made on @SvenHohenstein answer I would think you can use nlevels(cut(seq1,"months")) - 1 for what you're trying to achieve.

How to use a variable of one method in another method?

You can't. Variables defined inside a method are local to that method.

If you want to share variables between methods, then you'll need to specify them as member variables of the class. Alternatively, you can pass them from one method to another as arguments (this isn't always applicable).

Looks like you're using instance methods instead of static ones.

If you don't want to create an object, you should declare all your methods static, so something like

private static void methodName(Argument args...)

If you want a variable to be accessible by all these methods, you should initialise it outside the methods and to limit its scope, declare it private.

private static int[][] array = new int[3][5];

Global variables are usually looked down upon (especially for situations like your one) because in a large-scale program they can wreak havoc, so making it private will prevent some problems at the least.

Also, I'll say the usual: You should try to keep your code a bit tidy. Use descriptive class, method and variable names and keep your code neat (with proper indentation, linebreaks etc.) and consistent.

Here's a final (shortened) example of what your code should be like:

public class Test3 {
    //Use this array in your methods
    private static int[][] scores = new int[3][5];

    /* Rather than just "Scores" name it so people know what
     * to expect
     */
    private static void createScores() {
        //Code...
    }
    //Other methods...

    /* Since you're now using static methods, you don't
     * have to initialise an object and call its methods.
     */
    public static void main(String[] args){
        createScores();
        MD(); //Don't know what these do
        sumD(); //so I'll leave them.
    }
}

Ideally, since you're using an array, you would create the array in the main method and pass it as an argument across each method, but explaining how that works is probably a whole new question on its own so I'll leave it at that.

Asp Net Web API 2.1 get client IP address

If you're self-hosting with Asp.Net 2.1 using the OWIN Self-host NuGet package you can use the following code:

 private string getClientIp(HttpRequestMessage request = null)
    {
        if (request == null)
        {
            return null;
        }

        if (request.Properties.ContainsKey("MS_OwinContext"))
        {
            return ((OwinContext) request.Properties["MS_OwinContext"]).Request.RemoteIpAddress;
        }
        return null;
    }
