Exception : AAPT2 error: check logs for details

I faced similar problem. Akilesh awasthi's answer helped me fix it. My problem was a little different. I was using places_ic_search icon from com.google.android.gms:play-services-location The latest version com.google.android.gms:play-services-location:15.0.0 does not provide the icon places_ic_search. Because of this there was a problem in the layout.xml files.That led to build failure AAPT2 error: check logs for details as the message. Android studio should be showing cannot find drawable places_ic_search as the message instead.

I ended up using a lower version of com.google.android.gms:play-services-location temporarily. Hope this helps someone in future.

Could not resolve com.android.support:appcompat-v7:26.1.0 in Android Studio new project

try this :

android {
    compileSdkVersion 26
    buildToolsVersion "26.0.1"
defaultConfig {

        targetSdkVersion 26
    }

}

compile 'com.android.support:appcompat-v7:25.1.0'

It has worked for me

No authenticationScheme was specified, and there was no DefaultChallengeScheme found with default authentification and custom authorization

Do not use authorization instead of authentication. I should get whole access to service all clients with header. The working code is :

public class TokenAuthenticationHandler : AuthenticationHandler<TokenAuthenticationOptions>
{
    public IServiceProvider ServiceProvider { get; set; }

    public TokenAuthenticationHandler (IOptionsMonitor<TokenAuthenticationOptions> options, ILoggerFactory logger, UrlEncoder encoder, ISystemClock clock, IServiceProvider serviceProvider)
        : base (options, logger, encoder, clock)
    {
        ServiceProvider = serviceProvider;
    }

    protected override Task<AuthenticateResult> HandleAuthenticateAsync ()
    {
        var headers = Request.Headers;
        var token = "X-Auth-Token".GetHeaderOrCookieValue (Request);

        if (string.IsNullOrEmpty (token)) {
            return Task.FromResult (AuthenticateResult.Fail ("Token is null"));
        }

        bool isValidToken = false; // check token here

        if (!isValidToken) {
            return Task.FromResult (AuthenticateResult.Fail ($"Balancer not authorize token : for token={token}"));
        }

        var claims = new [] { new Claim ("token", token) };
        var identity = new ClaimsIdentity (claims, nameof (TokenAuthenticationHandler));
        var ticket = new AuthenticationTicket (new ClaimsPrincipal (identity), this.Scheme.Name);
        return Task.FromResult (AuthenticateResult.Success (ticket));
    }
}

Startup.cs :

#region Authentication
services.AddAuthentication (o => {
    o.DefaultScheme = SchemesNamesConst.TokenAuthenticationDefaultScheme;
})
.AddScheme<TokenAuthenticationOptions, TokenAuthenticationHandler> (SchemesNamesConst.TokenAuthenticationDefaultScheme, o => { });
#endregion

And mycontroller.cs

[Authorize(AuthenticationSchemes = SchemesNamesConst.TokenAuthenticationDefaultScheme)]
public class MainController : BaseController
{ ... }

I can't find TokenAuthenticationOptions now, but it was empty. I found the same class PhoneNumberAuthenticationOptions :

public class PhoneNumberAuthenticationOptions : AuthenticationSchemeOptions
{
    public Regex PhoneMask { get; set; }// = new Regex("7\\d{10}");
}

You should define static class SchemesNamesConst. Something like:

public static class SchemesNamesConst
{
    public const string TokenAuthenticationDefaultScheme = "TokenAuthenticationScheme";
}

bootstrap 4 responsive utilities visible / hidden xs sm lg not working

With Bootstrap 4 .hidden-* classes were completely removed (yes, they were replaced by hidden-*-* but those classes are also gone from v4 alphas).

Starting with v4-beta, you can combine .d-*-none and .d-*-block classes to achieve the same result.

visible-* was removed as well; instead of using explicit .visible-* classes, make the element visible by not hiding it (again, use combinations of .d-none .d-md-block). Here is the working example:

<div class="col d-none d-sm-block">
    <span class="vcard">
        …
    </span>
</div>
<div class="col d-none d-xl-block">
    <div class="d-none d-md-block">
                …
    </div>
    <div class="d-none d-sm-block">
                …
    </div>
</div>

class="hidden-xs" becomes class="d-none d-sm-block" (or d-none d-sm-inline-block) ...

<span class="d-none d-sm-inline">hidden-xs</span>

<span class="d-none d-sm-inline-block">hidden-xs</span>

An example of Bootstrap 4 responsive utilities:

<div class="d-none d-sm-block"> hidden-xs
  <div class="d-none d-md-block"> visible-md and up (hidden-sm and down)
    <div class="d-none d-lg-block"> visible-lg and up  (hidden-md and down)
      <div class="d-none d-xl-block"> visible-xl </div>
    </div>
  </div>
</div>

<div class="d-sm-none"> eXtra Small <576px </div>
<div class="d-none d-sm-block d-md-none d-lg-none d-xl-none"> SMall =576px </div>
<div class="d-none d-md-block d-lg-none d-xl-none"> MeDium =768px </div>
<div class="d-none d-lg-block d-xl-none"> LarGe =992px </div>
<div class="d-none d-xl-block"> eXtra Large =1200px </div>

How to get history on react-router v4?

If you are using redux and redux-thunk the best solution will be using react-router-redux

// then, in redux actions for example
import { push } from 'react-router-redux'

dispatch(push('/some/path'))

It's important to see the docs to do some configurations.

Error: Unexpected value 'undefined' imported by the module

The issue is that there is at least one import for which source file is missing.

For example I got the same error when I was using

       import { AppRoutingModule } from './app-routing.module';

But the file './app-routing.module' was not there in given path.

I removed this import and error went away.

Try to move:

apply plugin: 'com.google.gms.google-services'

just below:

apply plugin: 'com.android.application'

In your module Gradle file, then make sure all Google service's have the version 9.0.0.

Make sure that only this build tools is used:

classpath 'com.android.tools.build:gradle:2.1.0'

Make sure in gradle-wrapper.properties:

After all above is correct, then make menu File -> Invalidate caches and restart.

Firebase FCM force onTokenRefresh() to be called

How I update my deviceToken

First when I login I send the first device token under the user collection and the current logged in user.

After that, I just override onNewToken(token:String) in my FirebaseMessagingService() and just update that value if a new token is generated for that user

class MyFirebaseMessagingService: FirebaseMessagingService() {
    override fun onMessageReceived(p0: RemoteMessage) {
        super.onMessageReceived(p0)
    }

    override fun onNewToken(token: String) {
    super.onNewToken(token)
    val currentUser= FirebaseAuth.getInstance().currentUser?.uid
    if(currentUser != null){
        FirebaseFirestore.getInstance().collection("user").document(currentUser).update("deviceToken",token)
    }
 }
}

Each time your app opens it will check for a new token, if the user is not yet signed in it will not update the token, if the user is already logged in you can check for a newToken

Docker Networking - nginx: [emerg] host not found in upstream

There is a possibility to use "volumes_from" as a workaround until depends_on feature (discussed below) is introduced. All you have to do is change your docker-compose file as below:

nginx:
  image: nginx
  ports:
    - "42080:80"
  volumes:
    - ./config/docker/nginx/default.conf:/etc/nginx/conf.d/default.conf:ro
  volumes_from:
    - php

php:
  build: config/docker/php
  ports:
    - "42022:22"
  volumes:
    - .:/var/www/html
  env_file: config/docker/php/.env.development

mongo:
  image: mongo
  ports:
    - "42017:27017"
  volumes:
    - /var/mongodata/wa-api:/data/db
  command: --smallfiles

One big caveat in the above approach is that the volumes of php are exposed to nginx, which is not desired. But at the moment this is one docker specific workaround that could be used.

depends_on feature This probably would be a futuristic answer. Because the functionality is not yet implemented in Docker (as of 1.9)

There is a proposal to introduce "depends_on" in the new networking feature introduced by Docker. But there is a long running debate about the same @ https://github.com/docker/compose/issues/374 Hence, once it is implemented, the feature depends_on could be used to order the container start-up, but at the moment, you would have to resort to one of the following:

  1. make nginx retry until the php server is up - I would prefer this one
  2. use volums_from workaround as described above - I would avoid using this, because of the volume leakage into unnecessary containers.

How to prevent 'query timeout expired'? (SQLNCLI11 error '80040e31')

Turns out that the post (or rather the whole table) was locked by the very same connection that I tried to update the post with.

I had a opened record set of the post that was created by:

Set RecSet = Conn.Execute()

This type of recordset is supposed to be read-only and when I was using MS Access as database it did not lock anything. But apparently this type of record set did lock something on MS SQL Server 2012 because when I added these lines of code before executing the UPDATE SQL statement...

RecSet.Close
Set RecSet = Nothing

...everything worked just fine.

So bottom line is to be careful with opened record sets - even if they are read-only they could lock your table from updates.

Autocompletion of @author in Intellij

You can work around that via a Live Template. Go to Settings -> Live Template, click the "Add"-Button (green plus on the right).

In the "Abbreviation" field, enter the string that should activate the template (e.g. @a), and in the "Template Text" area enter the string to complete (e.g. @author - My Name). Set the "Applicable context" to Java (Comments only maybe) and set a key to complete (on the right).

I tested it and it works fine, however IntelliJ seems to prefer the inbuild templates, so "@a + Tab" only completes "author". Setting the completion key to Space worked however.

To change the user name that is automatically inserted via the File Templates (when creating a class for example), can be changed by adding

-Duser.name=Your name

to the idea.exe.vmoptions or idea64.exe.vmoptions (depending on your version) in the IntelliJ/bin directory.

java.io.IOException: Broken pipe

The most common reason I've had for a "broken pipe" is that one machine (of a pair communicating via socket) has shut down its end of the socket before communication was complete. About half of those were because the program communicating on that socket had terminated.

If the program sending bytes sends them out and immediately shuts down the socket or terminates itself, it is possible for the socket to cease functioning before the bytes have been transmitted and read.

Try putting pauses anywhere you are shutting down the socket and before you allow the program to terminate to see if that helps.

FYI: "pipe" and "socket" are terms that get used interchangeably sometimes.

Generate insert script for selected records?

If possible use Visual Studio. The Microsoft SQL Server Data Tools (SSDT) bring a built in functionality for this since the March 2014 release:

  1. Open Visual Studio
  2. Open "View" ? "SQL Server Object Explorer"
  3. Add a connection to your Server
  4. Expand the relevant database
  5. Expand the "Tables" folder
  6. Right click on relevant table
  7. Select "View Data" from context menu
  8. In the new window, viewing the data use the "Sort and filter dataset" functionality in the tool bar to apply your filter. Note that this functionality is limited and you can't write explicit SQL queries.
  9. After you have applied your filter and see only the data you want, click on "Script" or "Script to file" in the tool bar
  10. Voilà - Here you have your insert script for your filtered data

Note: Be careful, the "View Data" window is just like SSMS "Edit Top 200 Rows"- you can edit data right away

(Tested with Visual Studio 2015 with Microsoft SQL Server Data Tools (SSDT) Version 14.0.60812.0 and Microsoft SQL Server 2012)

Setting Remote Webdriver to run tests in a remote computer using Java

This is how I got rid of the error:

WebDriverException: Error forwarding the new session cannot find : {platform=WINDOWS, ensureCleanSession=true, browserName=internet explorer, version=11}

In your nodeconfig.json, the version must be a String, not an integer.

So instead of using "version": 11 use "version": "11" (note the double quotes).

What does the 'b' character do in front of a string literal?

You can use JSON to convert it to dictionary

import json
data = b'{"key":"value"}'
print(json.loads(data))

{"key":"value"}

FLASK:

This is an example from flask. Run this on terminal line:

import requests
requests.post(url='http://localhost(example)/',json={'key':'value'})

In flask/routes.py

@app.route('/', methods=['POST'])
def api_script_add():
    print(request.data) # --> b'{"hi":"Hello"}'
    print(json.loads(request.data))
return json.loads(request.data)

{'key':'value'}

LINQ to Entities does not recognize the method 'System.String ToString()' method, and this method cannot be translated into a store expression

As others have answered, this breaks because .ToString fails to translate to relevant SQL on the way into the database.

However, Microsoft provides the SqlFunctions class that is a collection of methods that can be used in situations like this.

For this case, what you are looking for here is SqlFunctions.StringConvert:

from p in context.pages
where  p.Serial == SqlFunctions.StringConvert((double)item.Key.Id)
select p;

Good when the solution with temporary variables is not desirable for whatever reasons.

Similar to SqlFunctions you also have the EntityFunctions (with EF6 obsoleted by DbFunctions) that provides a different set of functions that also are data source agnostic (not limited to e.g. SQL).

What's the difference between <mvc:annotation-driven /> and <context:annotation-config /> in servlet?

<context:annotation-config> declares support for general annotations such as @Required, @Autowired, @PostConstruct, and so on.

<mvc:annotation-driven /> declares explicit support for annotation-driven MVC controllers (i.e. @RequestMapping, @Controller, although support for those is the default behaviour), as well as adding support for declarative validation via @Valid and message body marshalling with @RequestBody/ResponseBody.

Real escape string and PDO

Use prepared statements. Those keep the data and syntax apart, which removes the need for escaping MySQL data. See e.g. this tutorial.

How to declare local variables in postgresql?

Postgresql historically doesn't support procedural code at the command level - only within functions. However, in Postgresql 9, support has been added to execute an inline code block that effectively supports something like this, although the syntax is perhaps a bit odd, and there are many restrictions compared to what you can do with SQL Server. Notably, the inline code block can't return a result set, so can't be used for what you outline above.

In general, if you want to write some procedural code and have it return a result, you need to put it inside a function. For example:

CREATE OR REPLACE FUNCTION somefuncname() RETURNS int LANGUAGE plpgsql AS $$
DECLARE
  one int;
  two int;
BEGIN
  one := 1;
  two := 2;
  RETURN one + two;
END
$$;
SELECT somefuncname();

The PostgreSQL wire protocol doesn't, as far as I know, allow for things like a command returning multiple result sets. So you can't simply map T-SQL batches or stored procedures to PostgreSQL functions.

Finding and removing non ascii characters from an Oracle Varchar2

Thanks, this worked for my purposes. BTW there is a missing single-quote in the example, above.

REGEXP_REPLACE (COLUMN,'[^' || CHR (32) || '-' || CHR (127) || ']', ' '))

I used it in a word-wrap function. Occasionally there was an embedded NewLine/ NL / CHR(10) / 0A in the incoming text that was messing things up.

Iterating through a list in reverse order in java

Very simple Example:

list.add("soni");

// Iterate to disply : result will be as --- ravi kant soni

for (String name : list) {

//Now call this method

Collections.reverse(list);

// iterate and print index wise : result will be as --- soni kant ravi

for (String name : list) {
  ...
}

What is the best IDE for C Development / Why use Emacs over an IDE?

I've moved from a terminal text-editor+make environment to Eclipse for most of my projects. Spanning from C and C++, to Java and Python to name few languages I am currently working with.

The reason was simply productivity. I could not afford spending time and effort on keeping all projects "in my head" as other things got more important.

There are benefits of using the "hardcore" approach (terminal) - such as that you have a much thinner layer between yourself and the code which allows you to be a bit more productive when you're all "inside" the project and everything is on the top of your head. But I don't think it is possible to defend that way of working just for it's own sake when your mind is needed elsewhere.

Usually when you work with command line tools you will frequently have to solve a lot of boilerplate problems that will keep you from being productive. You will need to know the tools in detail to fully leverage their potentials. Also maintaining a project will take a lot more effort. Refactoring will lead to updates in make-files, etc.

To summarize: If you only work on one or two projects, preferably full-time without too much distractions, "terminal based coding" can be more productive than a full blown IDE. However, if you need to spend your thinking energy on something more important an IDE is definitely the way to go in order to keep productivity.

Make your choice accordingly.

Managing large binary files with Git

The solution I'd like to propose is based on orphan branches and a slight abuse of the tag mechanism, henceforth referred to as *Orphan Tags Binary Storage (OTABS)

TL;DR 12-01-2017 If you can use github's LFS or some other 3rd party, by all means you should. If you can't, then read on. Be warned, this solution is a hack and should be treated as such.

Desirable properties of OTABS

  • it is a pure git and git only solution -- it gets the job done without any 3rd party software (like git-annex) or 3rd party infrastructure (like github's LFS).
  • it stores the binary files efficiently, i.e. it doesn't bloat the history of your repository.
  • git pull and git fetch, including git fetch --all are still bandwidth efficient, i.e. not all large binaries are pulled from the remote by default.
  • it works on Windows.
  • it stores everything in a single git repository.
  • it allows for deletion of outdated binaries (unlike bup).

Undesirable properties of OTABS

  • it makes git clone potentially inefficient (but not necessarily, depending on your usage). If you deploy this solution you might have to advice your colleagues to use git clone -b master --single-branch <url> instead of git clone. This is because git clone by default literally clones entire repository, including things you wouldn't normally want to waste your bandwidth on, like unreferenced commits. Taken from SO 4811434.
  • it makes git fetch <remote> --tags bandwidth inefficient, but not necessarily storage inefficient. You can can always advise your colleagues not to use it.
  • you'll have to periodically use a git gc trick to clean your repository from any files you don't want any more.
  • it is not as efficient as bup or git-bigfiles. But it's respectively more suitable for what you're trying to do and more off-the-shelf. You are likely to run into trouble with hundreds of thousands of small files or with files in range of gigabytes, but read on for workarounds.

Adding the Binary Files

Before you start make sure that you've committed all your changes, your working tree is up to date and your index doesn't contain any uncommitted changes. It might be a good idea to push all your local branches to your remote (github etc.) in case any disaster should happen.

  1. Create a new orphan branch. git checkout --orphan binaryStuff will do the trick. This produces a branch that is entirely disconnected from any other branch, and the first commit you'll make in this branch will have no parent, which will make it a root commit.
  2. Clean your index using git rm --cached * .gitignore.
  3. Take a deep breath and delete entire working tree using rm -fr * .gitignore. Internal .git directory will stay untouched, because the * wildcard doesn't match it.
  4. Copy in your VeryBigBinary.exe, or your VeryHeavyDirectory/.
  5. Add it && commit it.
  6. Now it becomes tricky -- if you push it into the remote as a branch all your developers will download it the next time they invoke git fetch clogging their connection. You can avoid this by pushing a tag instead of a branch. This can still impact your colleague's bandwidth and filesystem storage if they have a habit of typing git fetch <remote> --tags, but read on for a workaround. Go ahead and git tag 1.0.0bin
  7. Push your orphan tag git push <remote> 1.0.0bin.
  8. Just so you never push your binary branch by accident, you can delete it git branch -D binaryStuff. Your commit will not be marked for garbage collection, because an orphan tag pointing on it 1.0.0bin is enough to keep it alive.

Checking out the Binary File

  1. How do I (or my colleagues) get the VeryBigBinary.exe checked out into the current working tree? If your current working branch is for example master you can simply git checkout 1.0.0bin -- VeryBigBinary.exe.
  2. This will fail if you don't have the orphan tag 1.0.0bin downloaded, in which case you'll have to git fetch <remote> 1.0.0bin beforehand.
  3. You can add the VeryBigBinary.exe into your master's .gitignore, so that no-one on your team will pollute the main history of the project with the binary by accident.

Completely Deleting the Binary File

If you decide to completely purge VeryBigBinary.exe from your local repository, your remote repository and your colleague's repositories you can just:

  1. Delete the orphan tag on the remote git push <remote> :refs/tags/1.0.0bin
  2. Delete the orphan tag locally (deletes all other unreferenced tags) git tag -l | xargs git tag -d && git fetch --tags. Taken from SO 1841341 with slight modification.
  3. Use a git gc trick to delete your now unreferenced commit locally. git -c gc.reflogExpire=0 -c gc.reflogExpireUnreachable=0 -c gc.rerereresolved=0 -c gc.rerereunresolved=0 -c gc.pruneExpire=now gc "$@". It will also delete all other unreferenced commits. Taken from SO 1904860
  4. If possible, repeat the git gc trick on the remote. It is possible if you're self-hosting your repository and might not be possible with some git providers, like github or in some corporate environments. If you're hosting with a provider that doesn't give you ssh access to the remote just let it be. It is possible that your provider's infrastructure will clean your unreferenced commit in their own sweet time. If you're in a corporate environment you can advice your IT to run a cron job garbage collecting your remote once per week or so. Whether they do or don't will not have any impact on your team in terms of bandwidth and storage, as long as you advise your colleagues to always git clone -b master --single-branch <url> instead of git clone.
  5. All your colleagues who want to get rid of outdated orphan tags need only to apply steps 2-3.
  6. You can then repeat the steps 1-8 of Adding the Binary Files to create a new orphan tag 2.0.0bin. If you're worried about your colleagues typing git fetch <remote> --tags you can actually name it again 1.0.0bin. This will make sure that the next time they fetch all the tags the old 1.0.0bin will be unreferenced and marked for subsequent garbage collection (using step 3). When you try to overwrite a tag on the remote you have to use -f like this: git push -f <remote> <tagname>

Afterword

  • OTABS doesn't touch your master or any other source code/development branches. The commit hashes, all of the history, and small size of these branches is unaffected. If you've already bloated your source code history with binary files you'll have to clean it up as a separate piece of work. This script might be useful.

  • Confirmed to work on Windows with git-bash.

  • It is a good idea to apply a set of standard trics to make storage of binary files more efficient. Frequent running of git gc (without any additional arguments) makes git optimise underlying storage of your files by using binary deltas. However, if your files are unlikely to stay similar from commit to commit you can switch off binary deltas altogether. Additionally, because it makes no sense to compress already compressed or encrypted files, like .zip, .jpg or .crypt, git allows you to switch off compression of the underlying storage. Unfortunately it's an all-or-nothing setting affecting your source code as well.

  • You might want to script up parts of OTABS to allow for quicker usage. In particular, scripting steps 2-3 from Completely Deleting Binary Files into an update git hook could give a compelling but perhaps dangerous semantics to git fetch ("fetch and delete everything that is out of date").

  • You might want to skip the step 4 of Completely Deleting Binary Files to keep a full history of all binary changes on the remote at the cost of the central repository bloat. Local repositories will stay lean over time.

  • In Java world it is possible to combine this solution with maven --offline to create a reproducible offline build stored entirely in your version control (it's easier with maven than with gradle). In Golang world it is feasible to build on this solution to manage your GOPATH instead of go get. In python world it is possible to combine this with virtualenv to produce a self-contained development environment without relying on PyPi servers for every build from scratch.

  • If your binary files change very often, like build artifacts, it might be a good idea to script a solution which stores 5 most recent versions of the artifacts in the orphan tags monday_bin, tuesday_bin, ..., friday_bin, and also an orphan tag for each release 1.7.8bin 2.0.0bin, etc. You can rotate the weekday_bin and delete old binaries daily. This way you get the best of two worlds: you keep the entire history of your source code but only the relevant history of your binary dependencies. It is also very easy to get the binary files for a given tag without getting entire source code with all its history: git init && git remote add <name> <url> && git fetch <name> <tag> should do it for you.

Could not load type 'XXX.Global'

There are a few things you can try with this, seems to happen alot and the solution varies for everyone it seems.

  • If you are still using the IIS virtual directory make sure its pointed to the correct directory and also check the ASP.NET version it is set to, make sure it is set to ASP.NET 2.0.

  • Clear out your bin/debug/obj all of them. Do a Clean solution and then a Build Solution.

  • Check your project file in a text editor and make sure where its looking for the global file is correct, sometimes it doesnt change the directory.

  • Remove the global from the solution and add it back after saving and closing. make sure all the script tags in the ASPX file point to the correct one after.

  • You can try running the Convert to Web Application tool, that redoes all of the code and project files.

  • IIS Express is using the wrong root directory (see answer in VS 2012 launching app based on wrong path)

Make sure you close VS after you try them.

Those are some things I know to try. Hope one of them works for you.

Send file via cURL from form POST in PHP

we can upload image file by curl request by converting it base64 string.So in post we will send file string and then covert this in an image.

function covertImageInBase64()
{
    var imageFile = document.getElementById("imageFile").files;
    if (imageFile.length > 0)
    {
        var imageFileUpload = imageFile[0];
        var readFile = new FileReader();
        readFile.onload = function(fileLoadedEvent)
        {
            var base64image = document.getElementById("image");
            base64image.value = fileLoadedEvent.target.result;
        };
        readFile.readAsDataURL(imageFileUpload);
    }
}

then send it in curl request

if(isset($_POST['image'])){
    $curlUrl='localhost/curlfile.php';
    $ch = curl_init();
    curl_setopt($ch,CURLOPT_URL, $curlUrl);
    curl_setopt($ch,CURLOPT_POST, 1);
    curl_setopt($ch,CURLOPT_POSTFIELDS, 'image='.$_POST['image']);
    $result = curl_exec($ch);
    curl_close($ch);
}

Can I automatically increment the file build version when using Visual Studio?

How to get the version {major}.{year}.1{date}.1{time}

This one is kind of experimental, but I like it. Inspired by Jeff Atwood @ CodingHorror (link).

The resulting version number becomes 1.2016.10709.11641 (meaning 2016-07-09 16:41), which allows for

  • poor mans zero padding (with the stupid leading 1s)
  • nearly-human readable local DateTime embedded into the version number
  • leaving Major version alone for really major breaking changes.

Add a new item to your project, select General -> Text Template, name it something like CustomVersionNumber and (where applicable) comment out the AssemblyVersion and AssemblyFileVersion in Properties/AssemblyInfo.cs.

Then, when saving this file, or building the project, this will regenerate a .cs file located as a sub-item under the created .tt file.

<#@ template language="C#" #>
<#@ assembly name="System.Core" #>
<#@ import namespace="System.Linq" #>

//
// This code was generated by a tool. Any changes made manually will be lost
// the next time this code is regenerated.
//

using System.Reflection;

<#
    var date = DateTime.Now;
    int major = 1;
    int minor = date.Year;
    int build = 10000 + int.Parse(date.ToString("MMdd"));
    int revision = 10000 + int.Parse(date.ToString("HHmm"));
#>

[assembly: AssemblyVersion("<#= $"{major}.{minor}.{build}.{revision}" #>")]
[assembly: AssemblyFileVersion("<#= $"{major}.{minor}.{build}.{revision}" #>")]

Popup Message boxes

Ok, SO Basically I think I have a simple and effective solution.

package AnotherPopUpMessage;
import javax.swing.JOptionPane;
public class AnotherPopUp {
    public static void main(String[] args) {
        // TODO Auto-generated method stub
        JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(null, "Again? Where do all these come from?",
            "PopUp4", JOptionPane.CLOSED_OPTION);
    }
}

Storing sex (gender) in database

I'd call the column "gender".

Data Type Bytes Taken Number/Range of Values
------------------------------------------------
TinyINT     1                    255 (zero to 255)
INT         4            -       2,147,483,648 to 2,147,483,647
BIT         1 (2 if 9+ columns)  2 (0 and 1)
CHAR(1)     1                    26 if case insensitive, 52 otherwise

The BIT data type can be ruled out because it only supports two possible genders which is inadequate. While INT supports more than two options, it takes 4 bytes -- performance will be better with a smaller/more narrow data type.

CHAR(1) has the edge over TinyINT - both take the same number of bytes, but CHAR provides a more narrow number of values. Using CHAR(1) would make using "m", "f",etc natural keys, vs the use of numeric data which are referred to as surrogate/artificial keys. CHAR(1) is also supported on any database, should there be a need to port.

Conclusion

I would use Option 2: CHAR(1).

Addendum

An index on the gender column likely would not help because there's no value in an index on a low cardinality column. Meaning, there's not enough variety in the values for the index to provide any value.

Boolean checking in the 'if' condition

First style is better. Though you should use better variable name

Unsupported major.minor version 52.0

If your JDK version is right. Another reason that may cause this error is that your Android Studio is in a low version, but your Gradle version is too high. Upgrade your IDE to a newer version may help this.

Horizontal ListView in Android?

Paul doesn't bother to fix bugs of his library or accept users fixes. That's why I am suggesting another library which has similar functionality:

https://github.com/sephiroth74/HorizontalVariableListView

Update: on Jul 24, 2013 author (sephiroth74) released completely rewritten version based on code of android 4.2.2 ListView. I must say that it doesn't have all the errors which previous version had and works great!

'Use of Unresolved Identifier' in Swift

Once I had this problem after renaming a file. I renamed the file from within Xcode, but afterwards Xcode couldn't find the function in the file. Even a clean rebuild didn't fix the problem, but closing and then re-opening the project got the build to work.

Count all occurrences of a string in lots of files with grep

Here is a faster-than-grep AWK alternative way of doing this, which handles multiple matches of <url> per line, within a collection of XML files in a directory:

awk '/<url>/{m=gsub("<url>","");total+=m}END{print total}' some_directory/*.xml

This works well in cases where some XML files don't have line breaks.

How do I disable a Pylint warning?

pylint --generate-rcfile shows it like this:

[MESSAGES CONTROL]

# Enable the message, report, category or checker with the given id(s). You can
# either give multiple identifier separated by comma (,) or put this option
# multiple time.
#enable=

# Disable the message, report, category or checker with the given id(s). You
# can either give multiple identifier separated by comma (,) or put this option
# multiple time (only on the command line, not in the configuration file where
# it should appear only once).
#disable=

So it looks like your ~/.pylintrc should have the disable= line/s in it inside a section [MESSAGES CONTROL].

Why doesn't [01-12] range work as expected?

A character class in regular expressions, denoted by the [...] syntax, specifies the rules to match a single character in the input. As such, everything you write between the brackets specify how to match a single character.

Your pattern, [01-12] is thus broken down as follows:

  • 0 - match the single digit 0
  • or, 1-1, match a single digit in the range of 1 through 1
  • or, 2, match a single digit 2

So basically all you're matching is 0, 1 or 2.

In order to do the matching you want, matching two digits, ranging from 01-12 as numbers, you need to think about how they will look as text.

You have:

  • 01-09 (ie. first digit is 0, second digit is 1-9)
  • 10-12 (ie. first digit is 1, second digit is 0-2)

You will then have to write a regular expression for that, which can look like this:

  +-- a 0 followed by 1-9
  |
  |      +-- a 1 followed by 0-2
  |      |
<-+--> <-+-->
0[1-9]|1[0-2]
      ^
      |
      +-- vertical bar, this roughly means "OR" in this context

Note that trying to combine them in order to get a shorter expression will fail, by giving false positive matches for invalid input.

For instance, the pattern [0-1][0-9] would basically match the numbers 00-19, which is a bit more than what you want.

I tried finding a definite source for more information about character classes, but for now all I can give you is this Google Query for Regex Character Classes. Hopefully you'll be able to find some more information there to help you.

ViewPager PagerAdapter not updating the View

All these solution did not help me. thus i found a working solution: You can setAdapter every time, but it isn't enough. you should do these before changing adapter:

FragmentManager fragmentManager = slideShowPagerAdapter.getFragmentManager();
FragmentTransaction transaction = fragmentManager.beginTransaction();
List<Fragment> fragments = fragmentManager.getFragments();
for (Fragment f : fragments) {
    transaction.remove(f);
}
transaction.commit();

and after this:

viewPager.setAdapter(adapter);

Convert binary to ASCII and vice versa

Convert binary to its equivalent character.

k=7
dec=0
new=[]
item=[x for x in input("Enter 8bit binary number with , seprator").split(",")]
for i in item:
    for j in i:
        if(j=="1"):
            dec=2**k+dec
            k=k-1
        else:
            k=k-1
    new.append(dec)
    dec=0
    k=7
print(new)
for i in new:
    print(chr(i),end="")

CSS3 transform: rotate; in IE9

Standard CSS3 rotate should work in IE9, but I believe you need to give it a vendor prefix, like so:

  -ms-transform: rotate(10deg);

It is possible that it may not work in the beta version; if not, try downloading the current preview version (preview 7), which is a later revision that the beta. I don't have the beta version to test against, so I can't confirm whether it was in that version or not. The final release version is definitely slated to support it.

I can also confirm that the IE-specific filter property has been dropped in IE9.

[Edit]
People have asked for some further documentation. As they say, this is quite limited, but I did find this page: http://css3please.com/ which is useful for testing various CSS3 features in all browsers.

But testing the rotate feature on this page in IE9 preview caused it to crash fairly spectacularly.

However I have done some independant tests using -ms-transform:rotate() in IE9 in my own test pages, and it is working fine. So my conclusion is that the feature is implemented, but has got some bugs, possibly related to setting it dynamically.

Another useful reference point for which features are implemented in which browsers is www.canIuse.com -- see http://caniuse.com/#search=rotation

[EDIT]
Reviving this old answer because I recently found out about a hack called CSS Sandpaper which is relevant to the question and may make things easier.

The hack implements support for the standard CSS transform for for old versions of IE. So now you can add the following to your CSS:

-sand-transform: rotate(10deg);

...and have it work in IE 6/7/8, without having to use the filter syntax. (of course it still uses the filter syntax behind the scenes, but this makes it a lot easier to manage because it's using similar syntax to other browsers)

How to Use Order By for Multiple Columns in Laravel 4?

You can do as @rmobis has specified in his answer, [Adding something more into it]

Using order by twice:

MyTable::orderBy('coloumn1', 'DESC')
    ->orderBy('coloumn2', 'ASC')
    ->get();

and the second way to do it is,

Using raw order by:

MyTable::orderByRaw("coloumn1 DESC, coloumn2 ASC");
    ->get();

Both will produce same query as follow,

SELECT * FROM `my_tables` ORDER BY `coloumn1` DESC, `coloumn2` ASC

As @rmobis specified in comment of first answer you can pass like an array to order by column like this,

$myTable->orders = array(
    array('column' => 'coloumn1', 'direction' => 'desc'),
    array('column' => 'coloumn2', 'direction' => 'asc')
);

one more way to do it is iterate in loop,

$query = DB::table('my_tables');

foreach ($request->get('order_by_columns') as $column => $direction) {
    $query->orderBy($column, $direction);
}

$results = $query->get();

Hope it helps :)

No Such Element Exception?

Looks like your file.next() line in the while loop is throwing the NoSuchElementException since the scanner reached the end of file. Read the next() java API here

Also you should not call next() in the loop and also in the while condition. In the while condition you should check if next token is available and inside the while loop check if its equal to treasure.

SQL Server 2005 How Create a Unique Constraint?

To create a UNIQUE constraint on one or multiple columns when the table is already created, use the following SQL:

ALTER TABLE TableName ADd UNIQUE (ColumnName1,ColumnName2, ColumnName3, ...)

To allow naming of a UNIQUE constraint for above query

ALTER TABLE TableName ADD CONSTRAINT un_constaint_name UNIQUE (ColumnName1,ColumnName2, ColumnName3, ...)

The query supported by MySQL / SQL Server / Oracle / MS Access.

jQuery: click function exclude children.

I'm using following markup and had encoutered the same problem:

<ul class="nav">
    <li><a href="abc.html">abc</a></li>
    <li><a href="def.html">def</a></li>
</ul>

Here I have used the following logic:

$(".nav > li").click(function(e){
    if(e.target != this) return; // only continue if the target itself has been clicked
    // this section only processes if the .nav > li itself is clicked.
    alert("you clicked .nav > li, but not it's children");
});

In terms of the exact question, I can see that working as follows:

$(".example").click(function(e){
   if(e.target != this) return; // only continue if the target itself has been clicked
   $(".example").fadeOut("fast");
});

or of course the other way around:

$(".example").click(function(e){
   if(e.target == this){ // only if the target itself has been clicked
       $(".example").fadeOut("fast");
   }
});

Hope that helps.

Android design support library for API 28 (P) not working

Note: You should not use the com.android.support and com.google.android.material dependencies in your app at the same time.

Add Material Components for Android in your build.gradle(app) file

dependencies {
    // ...
    implementation 'com.google.android.material:material:1.0.0-beta01'
    // ...
  }

If your app currently depends on the original Design Support Library, you can make use of the Refactor to AndroidX… option provided by Android Studio. Doing so will update your app’s dependencies and code to use the newly packaged androidx and com.google.android.material libraries.

If you don’t want to switch over to the new androidx and com.google.android.material packages yet, you can use Material Components via the com.android.support:design:28.0.0-alpha3 dependency.

Using env variable in Spring Boot's application.properties

Using Spring context 5.0 I have successfully achieved loading correct property file based on system environment via the following annotation

@PropertySources({
    @PropertySource("classpath:application.properties"),
    @PropertySource("classpath:application-${MYENV:test}.properties")})

Here MYENV value is read from system environment and if system environment is not present then default test environment property file will be loaded, if I give a wrong MYENV value - it will fail to start the application.

Note: for each profile, you want to maintain - you will need to make an application-[profile].property file and although I used Spring context 5.0 & not Spring boot - I believe this will also work on Spring 4.1

Delete dynamically-generated table row using jQuery

You should use Event Delegation, because of the fact that you are creating dynamic rows.

$(document).on('click','button.removebutton', function() {
    alert("aa");
  $(this).closest('tr').remove();
  return false;
});

HTML tag <a> want to add both href and onclick working

You already have what you need, with a minor syntax change:

<a href="www.mysite.com" onclick="return theFunction();">Item</a>

<script type="text/javascript">
    function theFunction () {
        // return true or false, depending on whether you want to allow the `href` property to follow through or not
    }
</script>

The default behavior of the <a> tag's onclick and href properties is to execute the onclick, then follow the href as long as the onclick doesn't return false, canceling the event (or the event hasn't been prevented)

How do I set the classpath in NetBeans?

Maven

The Answer by Bhesh Gurung is correct… unless your NetBeans project is Maven based.

Dependency

Under Maven, you add a "dependency". A dependency is a description of a library (its name & version number) you want to use from your code.

Or a dependency could be a description of a library which another library needs ("depends on"). Maven automatically handles this chain, libraries that need other libraries that then need other libraries and so on. For the mathematical-minded, perhaps the phrase "Maven resolves the transitive dependencies" makes sense.

Repository

Maven gets this related-ness information, and the libraries themselves from a Maven repository. A repository is basically an online database and collection of download files (the dependency library).

Easy to Use

Adding a dependency to a Maven-based project is really quite easy. That is the whole point to Maven, to make managing dependent libraries easy and to make building them into your project easy. To get started with adding a dependency, see this Question, Adding dependencies in Maven Netbeans and my Answer with screenshot.

Cleanest Way to Invoke Cross-Thread Events

Use the synchronisation context if you want to send a result to the UI thread. I needed to change the thread priority so I changed from using thread pool threads (commented out code) and created a new thread of my own. I was still able to use the synchronisation context to return whether the database cancel succeeded or not.

    #region SyncContextCancel

    private SynchronizationContext _syncContextCancel;

    /// <summary>
    /// Gets the synchronization context used for UI-related operations.
    /// </summary>
    /// <value>The synchronization context.</value>
    protected SynchronizationContext SyncContextCancel

        get { return _syncContextCancel; }
    }

    #endregion //SyncContextCancel

    {
        _syncContextCancel = SynchronizationContext.Current;

        //ThreadPool.QueueUserWorkItem(CancelWork, null);

        Thread worker = new Thread(new ThreadStart(CancelWork));
        worker.Priority = ThreadPriority.Highest;
        worker.Start();
    }

    SQLiteConnection _connection;
    private void CancelWork()//object state
    {
        bool success = false;

        try
        {
            if (_connection != null)
            {
                log.Debug("call cancel");

Formatting a number with exactly two decimals in JavaScript

Round your decimal value, then use toFixed(x) for your expected digit(s).

function parseDecimalRoundAndFixed(num,dec){
  var d =  Math.pow(10,dec);
  return (Math.round(num * d) / d).toFixed(dec);
}

Call

parseDecimalRoundAndFixed(10.800243929,4) => 10.80 parseDecimalRoundAndFixed(10.807243929,2) => 10.81

How to input matrix (2D list) in Python?

Creating matrix with prepopulated numbers can be done with list comprehension. It may be hard to read but it gets job done:

rows = int(input('Number of rows: '))
cols = int(input('Number of columns: '))
matrix = [[i + cols * j for i in range(1, cols + 1)] for j in range(rows)]

with 2 rows and 3 columns matrix will be [[1, 2, 3], [4, 5, 6]], with 3 rows and 2 columns matrix will be [[1, 2], [3, 4], [5, 6]] etc.

Converting Hexadecimal String to Decimal Integer

You could take advantage of ASCII value for each letter and take off 55, easy and fast:

int asciiOffset = 55;
char hex = Character.toUpperCase('A');  // Only A-F uppercase
int val = hex - asciiOffset;
System.out.println("hexadecimal:" + hex);
System.out.println("decimal:" + val);

Output:
hexadecimal:A
decimal:10

Filtering Pandas DataFrames on dates

How about using pyjanitor

It has cool features.

After pip install pyjanitor

Select query to get data from SQL Server

According to MSDN

http://msdn.microsoft.com/ru-ru/library/system.data.sqlclient.sqlcommand.executenonquery(v=vs.110).aspx

result is the number of lines affected, and since your query is select no lines are affected (i.e. inserted, deleted or updated) anyhow.

If you want to return a single row of the query, use ExecuteScalar() instead of ExecuteNonQuery():

  int result = (int) (command.ExecuteScalar());

However, if you expect many rows to be returned, ExecuteReader() is the only option:

  using (SqlDataReader reader = command.ExecuteReader()) {
    while (reader.Read()) {
      int result = reader.GetInt32(0);

      ...
    }
  }

Submit form using a button outside the <form> tag

You can always use jQuery:

<form id="myForm">
  <!-- form controls -->
</form>
<input type="submit" id="myButton">

<script>

  $("#myButton").click(function () {
    $("#myForm").submit();
  });
});
</script>

PHP cURL error code 60

php --ini

This will tell you exactly which php.ini file is being loaded, so you know which one to modify. I wasted a lot of time changing the wrong php.ini file because I had WAMP and XAMPP installed.

Also, don't forget to restart the WAMP server (or whatever you use) after changing php.ini.

Is it possible to use global variables in Rust?

Look at the const and static section of the Rust book.

You can use something as follows:

const N: i32 = 5;

or

static N: i32 = 5;

in global space.

But these are not mutable. For mutability, you could use something like:

static mut N: i32 = 5;

Then reference them like:

unsafe {
    N += 1;

    println!("N: {}", N);
}

"End of script output before headers" error in Apache

Getting path relative to the current working directory?

public string MakeRelativePath(string workingDirectory, string fullPath)
{
    string result = string.Empty;
    int offset;

    // this is the easy case. The file is inside of the working directory.
    if( fullPath.StartsWith(workingDirectory) )
    {
        return fullPath.Substring(workingDirectory.Length + 1);
    }

    // the hard case has to back out of the working directory
    string[] baseDirs = workingDirectory.Split(new char[] { ':', '\\', '/' });
    string[] fileDirs = fullPath.Split(new char[] { ':', '\\', '/' });

    // if we failed to split (empty strings?) or the drive letter does not match
    if( baseDirs.Length <= 0 || fileDirs.Length <= 0 || baseDirs[0] != fileDirs[0] )
    {
        // can't create a relative path between separate harddrives/partitions.
        return fullPath;
    }

    // skip all leading directories that match
    for (offset = 1; offset < baseDirs.Length; offset++)
    {
        if (baseDirs[offset] != fileDirs[offset])
            break;
    }

    // back out of the working directory
    for (int i = 0; i < (baseDirs.Length - offset); i++)
    {
        result += "..\\";
    }

    // step into the file path
    for (int i = offset; i < fileDirs.Length-1; i++)
    {
        result += fileDirs[i] + "\\";
    }

    // append the file
    result += fileDirs[fileDirs.Length - 1];

    return result;
}

This code is probably not bullet-proof but this is what I came up with. It's a little more robust. It takes two paths and returns path B as relative to path A.

example:

MakeRelativePath("c:\\dev\\foo\\bar", "c:\\dev\\junk\\readme.txt")
//returns: "..\\..\\junk\\readme.txt"

MakeRelativePath("c:\\dev\\foo\\bar", "c:\\dev\\foo\\bar\\docs\\readme.txt")
//returns: "docs\\readme.txt"

    }
    raw["count"] = 1

    if err != nil {
        panic(err)
    }
    println(string(out))

Excel VBA date formats

It's important to distinguish between the content of cells, their display format, the data type read from cells by VBA, and the data type written to cells from VBA and how Excel automatically interprets this. (See e.g. this previous answer.) The relationship between these can be a bit complicated, because Excel will do things like interpret values of one type (e.g. string) as being a certain other data type (e.g. date) and then automatically change the display format based on this. Your safest bet it do everything explicitly and not to rely on this automatic stuff.

I ran your experiment and I don't get the same results as you do. My cell A1 stays a Date the whole time, and B1 stays 41575. So I can't answer your question #1. Results probably depend on how your Excel version/settings choose to automatically detect/change a cell's number format based on its content.

Question #2, "How can I ensure that a cell will return a date value": well, not sure what you mean by "return" a date value, but if you want it to contain a numerical value that is displayed as a date, based on what you write to it from VBA, then you can either:

  • Write to the cell a string value that you hope Excel will automatically interpret as a date and format as such. Cross fingers. Obviously this is not very robust. Or,

  • Write a numerical value to the cell from VBA (obviously a Date type is the intended type, but an Integer, Long, Single, or Double could do as well) and explicitly set the cells' number format to your desired date format using the .NumberFormat property (or manually in Excel). This is much more robust.

If you want to check that existing cell contents can be displayed as a date, then here's a function that will help:

Function CellContentCanBeInterpretedAsADate(cell As Range) As Boolean
    Dim d As Date
    On Error Resume Next
    d = CDate(cell.Value)
    If Err.Number <> 0 Then
        CellContentCanBeInterpretedAsADate = False
    Else
        CellContentCanBeInterpretedAsADate = True
    End If
    On Error GoTo 0
End Function

Example usage:

Dim cell As Range
Set cell = Range("A1")

If CellContentCanBeInterpretedAsADate(cell) Then
    cell.NumberFormat = "mm/dd/yyyy hh:mm"
Else
    cell.NumberFormat = "General"
End If

Delete cookie by name?

You can try this solution

var d = new Date();

var expires = "expires="+d.toUTCString();
document.cookie = 'COOKIE_NAME' + "=" + "" + ";domain=domain.com;path=/;" + expires;

anaconda update all possible packages?

Imagine the dependency graph of packages, when the number of packages grows large, the chance of encountering a conflict when upgrading/adding packages is much higher. To avoid this, simply create a new environment in Anaconda.

Be frugal, install only what you need. For me, I installed the following packages in my new environment:

  • pandas
  • scikit-learn
  • matplotlib
  • notebook
  • keras

And I have 84 packages in total.

Find files and tar them (with spaces)

The best solution seem to be to create a file list and then archive files because you can use other sources and do something else with the list.

For example this allows using the list to calculate size of the files being archived:

#!/bin/sh

backupFileName="backup-big-$(date +"%Y%m%d-%H%M")"
backupRoot="/var/www"
backupOutPath=""

archivePath=$backupOutPath$backupFileName.tar.gz
listOfFilesPath=$backupOutPath$backupFileName.filelist

#
# Make a list of files/directories to archive
#
echo "" > $listOfFilesPath
echo "${backupRoot}/uploads" >> $listOfFilesPath
echo "${backupRoot}/extra/user/data" >> $listOfFilesPath
find "${backupRoot}/drupal_root/sites/" -name "files" -type d >> $listOfFilesPath

#
# Size calculation
#
sizeForProgress=`
cat $listOfFilesPath | while read nextFile;do
    if [ ! -z "$nextFile" ]; then
        du -sb "$nextFile"
    fi
done | awk '{size+=$1} END {print size}'
`

#
# Archive with progress
#
## simple with dump of all files currently archived
#tar -czvf $archivePath -T $listOfFilesPath
## progress bar
sizeForShow=$(($sizeForProgress/1024/1024))
echo -e "\nRunning backup [source files are $sizeForShow MiB]\n"
tar -cPp -T $listOfFilesPath | pv -s $sizeForProgress | gzip > $archivePath

What causes an HTTP 405 "invalid method (HTTP verb)" error when POSTing a form to PHP on IIS?

It sounds like the server is having trouble handling POST requests (get and post are verbs). I don't know, how or why someone would configure a server to ignore post requests, but the only solution would be to fix the server, or change your app to use get requests.

Subtract two dates in Java

Date d1 = new SimpleDateFormat("yyyy-M-dd").parse((String) request.
            getParameter(date1));
Date d2 = new SimpleDateFormat("yyyy-M-dd").parse((String) request.
            getParameter(date2));

long diff = d2.getTime() - d1.getTime();

System.out.println("Difference between  " + d1 + " and "+ d2+" is "
        + (diff / (1000 * 60 * 60 * 24)) + " days.");

SQL query to select distinct row with minimum value

This alternative approach uses SQL Server's OUTER APPLY clause. This way, it

  1. creates the distinct list of games, and
  2. fetches and outputs the record with the lowest point number for that game.

The OUTER APPLY clause can be imagined as a LEFT JOIN, but with the advantage that you can use values of the main query as parameters in the subquery (here: game).

SELECT colMinPointID
FROM (
  SELECT game
  FROM table
  GROUP BY game
) As rstOuter
OUTER APPLY (
  SELECT TOP 1 id As colMinPointID
  FROM table As rstInner
  WHERE rstInner.game = rstOuter.game
  ORDER BY points
) AS rstMinPoints

Get the IP address of the machine

I do not think there is a definitive right answer to your question. Instead there is a big bundle of ways how to get close to what you wish. Hence I will provide some hints how to get it done.

If a machine has more than 2 interfaces (lo counts as one) you will have problems to autodetect the right interface easily. Here are some recipes on how to do it.

The problem, for example, is if hosts are in a DMZ behind a NAT firewall which changes the public IP into some private IP and forwards the requests. Your machine may have 10 interfaces, but only one corresponds to the public one.

Even autodetection does not work in case you are on double-NAT, where your firewall even translates the source-IP into something completely different. So you cannot even be sure, that the default route leads to your interface with a public interface.

Detect it via the default route

This is my recommended way to autodetect things

Something like ip r get 1.1.1.1 usually tells you the interface which has the default route.

If you want to recreate this in your favourite scripting/programming language, use strace ip r get 1.1.1.1 and follow the yellow brick road.

Set it with /etc/hosts

This is my recommendation if you want to stay in control

You can create an entry in /etc/hosts like

80.190.1.3 publicinterfaceip

Then you can use this alias publicinterfaceip to refer to your public interface.

Sadly haproxy does not grok this trick with IPv6

Use the environment

This is a good workaround for /etc/hosts in case you are not root

Same as /etc/hosts. but use the environment for this. You can try /etc/profile or ~/.profile for this.

Hence if your program needs a variable MYPUBLICIP then you can include code like (this is C, feel free to create C++ from it):

#define MYPUBLICIPENVVAR "MYPUBLICIP"

const char *mypublicip = getenv(MYPUBLICIPENVVAR);

if (!mypublicip) { fprintf(stderr, "please set environment variable %s\n", MYPUBLICIPENVVAR); exit(3); }

So you can call your script/program /path/to/your/script like this

MYPUBLICIP=80.190.1.3 /path/to/your/script

this even works in crontab.

Enumerate all interfaces and eliminate those you do not want

The desperate way if you cannot use ip

If you do know what you do not want, you can enumerate all interfaces and ignore all the false ones.

Here already seems to be an answer https://stackoverflow.com/a/265978/490291 for this approach.

Do it like DLNA

The way of the drunken man who tries to drown himself in alcohol

You can try to enumerate all the UPnP gateways on your network and this way find out a proper route for some "external" thing. This even might be on a route where your default route does not point to.

For more on this perhaps see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_Gateway_Device_Protocol

This gives you a good impression which one is your real public interface, even if your default route points elsewhere.

There are even more

Where the mountain meets the prophet

IPv6 routers advertise themselves to give you the right IPv6 prefix. Looking at the prefix gives you a hint about if it has some internal IP or a global one.

You can listen for IGMP or IBGP frames to find out some suitable gateway.

There are less than 2^32 IP addresses. Hence it does not take long on a LAN to just ping them all. This gives you a statistical hint on where the majority of the Internet is located from your point of view. However you should be a bit more sensible than the famous https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/SQL_Slammer

ICMP and even ARP are good sources for network sideband information. It might help you out as well.

You can use Ethernet Broadcast address to contact to all your network infrastructure devices which often will help out, like DHCP (even DHCPv6) and so on.

This additional list is probably endless and always incomplete, because every manufacturer of network devices is busily inventing new security holes on how to auto-detect their own devices. Which often helps a lot on how to detect some public interface where there shouln't be one.

'Nuff said. Out.

right click context menu for datagridview

For the position for the context menu, y found the problem that I needed a it to be relative to the DataGridView, and the event I needed to use gives the poistion relative to the cell clicked. I haven't found a better solution so I implemented this function in the commons class, so I call it from wherever I need.

It's quite tested and works well. I Hope you find it useful.

VHDL - How should I create a clock in a testbench?

My favoured technique:

signal clk : std_logic := '0'; -- make sure you initialise!
...
clk <= not clk after half_period;

I usually extend this with a finished signal to allow me to stop the clock:

clk <= not clk after half_period when finished /= '1' else '0';

Gotcha alert: Care needs to be taken if you calculate half_period from another constant by dividing by 2. The simulator has a "time resolution" setting, which often defaults to nanoseconds... In which case, 5 ns / 2 comes out to be 2 ns so you end up with a period of 4ns! Set the simulator to picoseconds and all will be well (until you need fractions of a picosecond to represent your clock time anyway!)

Proper way to handle multiple forms on one page in Django

This is a bit late, but this is the best solution I found. You make a look-up dictionary for the form name and its class, you also have to add an attribute to identify the form, and in your views you have to add it as a hidden field, with the form.formlabel.

# form holder
form_holder = {
    'majeur': {
        'class': FormClass1,
    },
    'majsoft': {
        'class': FormClass2,
    },
    'tiers1': {
        'class': FormClass3,
    },
    'tiers2': {
        'class': FormClass4,
    },
    'tiers3': {
        'class': FormClass5,
    },
    'tiers4': {
        'class': FormClass6,
    },
}

for key in form_holder.keys():
    # If the key is the same as the formlabel, we should use the posted data
    if request.POST.get('formlabel', None) == key:
        # Get the form and initate it with the sent data
        form = form_holder.get(key).get('class')(
            data=request.POST
        )

        # Validate the form
        if form.is_valid():
            # Correct data entries
            messages.info(request, _(u"Configuration validée."))

            if form.save():
                # Save succeeded
                messages.success(
                    request,
                    _(u"Données enregistrées avec succès.")
                )
            else:
                # Save failed
                messages.warning(
                    request,
                    _(u"Un problème est survenu pendant l'enregistrement "
                      u"des données, merci de réessayer plus tard.")
                )
        else:
            # Form is not valid, show feedback to the user
            messages.error(
                request,
                _(u"Merci de corriger les erreurs suivantes.")
            )
    else:
        # Just initiate the form without data
        form = form_holder.get(key).get('class')(key)()

    # Add the attribute for the name
    setattr(form, 'formlabel', key)

    # Append it to the tempalte variable that will hold all the forms
    forms.append(form)

I hope this will help in the future.

How to add fixed button to the bottom right of page

You are specifying .fixedbutton in your CSS (a class) and specifying the id on the element itself.

Change your CSS to the following, which will select the id fixedbutton

#fixedbutton {
    position: fixed;
    bottom: 0px;
    right: 0px;
}

How can I use external JARs in an Android project?

Android's Java API does not support javax.naming.* and many other javax.* stuff. You need to include the dependencies as separate jars.

Add Foreign Key to existing table

When you add a foreign key constraint to a table using ALTER TABLE, remember to create the required indexes first.

  1. Create index
  2. Alter table

Active Menu Highlight CSS

First, give all your links a unique id and make a css class called active:

<ul>
    <li><a id="link1" href="#/...">link 1</a></li>
    <li><a id="link2" href="#/...">link 2</a></li>
</ul>

CSS:

.active {
    font-weight: bold;
}

Jquery version:

function setActiveLink(setActive){
    if ($("a").hasClass('active'))
        $("a").removeClass('active');
    if (setActive)
        $("#"+setActive).addClass('active');
}

$(function() {
    $("a").click(function() {
        setActiveLink(this.id);
    });
});

Vanilla javascript version:

In order to prevent selecting too many links with document.querySelectorAll, give the parent element an id called menuLinks. Add an onClick handler on the links.

<ul id="menuLinks">
    <li><a id="link1" href="#/..." onClick="setActiveLink(this.id);">link 1</a></li>
    <li><a id="link2" href="#/..." onClick="setActiveLink(this.id);">link 2</a></li>
</ul>

Code:

function setActiveLink(setActive){
    var links = document.querySelectorAll("#menuLinks a");
    Array.prototype.map.call(links, function(e) {
        e.className = "";
        if (e.id == setActive)
            e.className = "active";
    })
}

"webxml attribute is required" error in Maven

If you change the default project path, you must specify the location of the web.xml file, for example:

            <artifactId>maven-war-plugin</artifactId>
            <version>2.5</version>
            <configuration>
                <webXml>src\main\web\WEB-INF\web.xml</webXml>
            </configuration>
        </plugin>

What is the precise meaning of "ours" and "theirs" in git?

I'll post my memo here, because I have to come back here again and again.

SCENARIO 1. Normal developer: You are developer who can't merge to master and have to play with feature branches only.

Case 1: master is a king. You want to refresh your feature branch (= rebase to master), because master contains new updates of dependencies and you want to overwrite your modest changes.

git checkout master
git pull

git checkout feature
git rebase -X ours master

Case 2: you are a king. You want to rebase your feature branch to master changes. But you did more than your colleagues had and want to use your own changes in a priority.

git checkout master
git pull

git checkout feature
git rebase -X theirs master

IMPORTANT: As you can see normal developers should prefer rebase and repeat it every morning like exercises/coffee.

SCENARIO 2. Merging-sensei: You are a team-lead and want to merge other branches and push a merged result directly to a master. master is a branch you will change.

Case 1: master is a king You want to merge third-party branch, but master is a priority. feature is a branch that your senior did.

git checkout feature
git pull

git checkout master
git merge -X ours feature

Case 2: new changes is a king When your senior developer released a cool feature and you want to overwrite the old s**t in the master branch.

git checkout feature
git pull

git checkout master
git merge -X theirs feature

REMEMBER: To remember in a midnight which one to choose: master is ours ALWAYS. And theirs is a feature that theirs have done.

Enter key pressed event handler

In WPF, TextBox element will not get opportunity to use "Enter" button for creating KeyUp Event until you will not set property: AcceptsReturn="True".

But, it would`t solve the problem with handling KeyUp Event in TextBox element. After pressing "ENTER" you will get a new text line in TextBox.

I had solved problem of using KeyUp Event of TextBox element by using Bubble event strategy. It's short and easy. You have to attach a KeyUp Event handler in some (any) parent element:

XAML:

<Window x:Class="TextBox_EnterButtomEvent.MainWindow"
    xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation"
    xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml"
    xmlns:d="http://schemas.microsoft.com/expression/blend/2008"
    xmlns:mc="http://schemas.openxmlformats.org/markup-compatibility/2006"
    xmlns:local="clr-namespace:TextBox_EnterButtomEvent"
    mc:Ignorable="d"
    Title="MainWindow" Height="350" Width="525">
<Grid KeyUp="Grid_KeyUp">
    <Grid.RowDefinitions>
        <RowDefinition/>
        <RowDefinition Height="Auto"/>
        <RowDefinition Height="Auto"/>
        <RowDefinition Height ="0.3*"/>
        <RowDefinition Height="Auto"/>
        <RowDefinition Height="Auto"/>
        <RowDefinition/>
    </Grid.RowDefinitions>
    <Grid.ColumnDefinitions>
        <ColumnDefinition/>
        <ColumnDefinition/>
        <ColumnDefinition/>
    </Grid.ColumnDefinitions>
    <TextBlock Grid.Row="1" Grid.Column="1" Padding="0" TextWrapping="WrapWithOverflow">
        Input text end press ENTER:
    </TextBlock>
    <TextBox Grid.Row="2" Grid.Column="1" HorizontalAlignment="Stretch"/>
    <TextBlock Grid.Row="4" Grid.Column="1" Padding="0" TextWrapping="WrapWithOverflow">
        You have entered:
    </TextBlock>
    <TextBlock Name="txtBlock" Grid.Row="5" Grid.Column="1" HorizontalAlignment="Stretch"/>
</Grid></Window>

C# logical part (KeyUp Event handler is attached to a grid element):

public partial class MainWindow : Window
{
    public MainWindow()
    {
        InitializeComponent();
    }

    private void Grid_KeyUp(object sender, KeyEventArgs e)
    {
        if(e.Key == Key.Enter)
        {
            TextBox txtBox = e.Source as TextBox;
            if(txtBox != null)
            {
                this.txtBlock.Text = txtBox.Text;
                this.txtBlock.Background = new SolidColorBrush(Colors.LightGray);
            }
        }
    }
}

How to change maven java home

Running CMake on Windows

The default generator for Windows seems to be set to NMAKE. Try to use:

cmake -G "MinGW Makefiles"

Or use the GUI, and select MinGW Makefiles when prompted for a generator. Don't forget to cleanup the directory where you tried to run CMake, or delete the cache in the GUI. Otherwise, it will try again with NMAKE.

How to write MySQL query where A contains ( "a" or "b" )

Two options:

  1. Use the LIKE keyword, along with percent signs in the string

    select * from table where field like '%a%' or field like '%b%'.

    (note: If your search string contains percent signs, you'll need to escape them)

  2. If you're looking for more a complex combination of strings than you've specified in your example, you could regular expressions (regex):

    See the MySQL manual for more on how to use them: http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.1/en/regexp.html

Of these, using LIKE is the most usual solution -- it's standard SQL, and in common use. Regex is less commonly used but much more powerful.

Note that whichever option you go with, you need to be aware of possible performance implications. Searching for sub-strings like this will mean that the query will have to scan the entire table. If you have a large table, this could make for a very slow query, and no amount of indexing is going to help.

If this is an issue for you, and you'r going to need to search for the same things over and over, you may prefer to do something like adding a flag field to the table which specifies that the string field contains the relevant sub-strings. If you keep this flag field up-to-date when you insert of update a record, you could simply query the flag when you want to search. This can be indexed, and would make your query much much quicker. Whether it's worth the effort to do that is up to you, it'll depend on how bad the performance is using LIKE.

Can multiple different HTML elements have the same ID if they're different elements?

Nope, IDs have to be unique. You can use classes for that purpose

<div class="a" /><div class="a b" /><span class="a" />

div.a {font: ...;}
/* or just: */
.a {prop: value;}

How to set the custom border color of UIView programmatically?

Swift 5.2, UIView+Extension

extension UIView {
    public func addViewBorder(borderColor:CGColor,borderWith:CGFloat,borderCornerRadius:CGFloat){
        self.layer.borderWidth = borderWith
        self.layer.borderColor = borderColor
        self.layer.cornerRadius = borderCornerRadius

    }
}

You used this extension;

yourView.addViewBorder(borderColor: #colorLiteral(red: 0.6, green: 0.6, blue: 0.6, alpha: 1), borderWith: 1.0, borderCornerRadius: 20)

How to uncompress a tar.gz in another directory

You can use the option -C (or --directory if you prefer long options) to give the target directory of your choice in case you are using the Gnu version of tar. The directory should exist:

mkdir foo
tar -xzf bar.tar.gz -C foo

If you are not using a tar capable of extracting to a specific directory, you can simply cd into your target directory prior to calling tar; then you will have to give a complete path to your archive, of course. You can do this in a scoping subshell to avoid influencing the surrounding script:

mkdir foo
(cd foo; tar -xzf ../bar.tar.gz) # instead of ../ you can use an absolute path as well

Or, if neither an absolute path nor a relative path to the archive file is suitable, you also can use this to name the archive outside of the scoping subshell:

TARGET_PATH=a/very/complex/path/which/might/even/be/absolute
mkdir -p "$TARGET_PATH"
(cd "$TARGET_PATH"; tar -xzf -) < bar.tar.gz

How to get parameters from a URL string?

To get parameters from URL string, I used following function.

var getUrlParameter = function getUrlParameter(sParam) {
    var sPageURL = decodeURIComponent(window.location.search.substring(1)),
        sURLVariables = sPageURL.split('&'),
        sParameterName,
        i;

    for (i = 0; i < sURLVariables.length; i++) {
        sParameterName = sURLVariables[i].split('=');

        if (sParameterName[0] === sParam) {
            return sParameterName[1] === undefined ? true : sParameterName[1];
        }
    }
};
var email = getUrlParameter('email');

If there are many URL strings, then you can use loop to get parameter 'email' from all those URL strings and store them in array.

Freeing up a TCP/IP port?

In terminal type :

netstat -anp|grep "port_number"

It will show the port details. Go to last column. It will be in this format . For example :- PID/java

then execute :

kill -9 PID. Worked on Centos5

For MAC:

lsof -n -i :'port-number' | grep LISTEN

Sample Response :

java   4744 (PID)  test  364u  IP0 asdasdasda   0t0  TCP *:port-number (LISTEN)

and then execute :

kill -9 PID

Angular 2 Sibling Component Communication

There is a discussion about it here.

Alex J's answer is good but it no longer works with current Angular 4 as of July, 2017.

And this plunker link would demonstrate how to communicate between siblings using shared service and observable.

How to get the name of the current method from code

Since C# version 6 you can simply call:

string currentMethodName = nameof(MyMethod);

In C# version 5 and .NET 4.5 you can use the [CallerMemberName] attribute to have the compiler auto-generate the name of the calling method in a string argument. Other useful attributes are [CallerFilePath] to have the compiler generate the source code file path and [CallerLineNumber] to get the line number in the source code file for the statement that made the call.

Before that there were still some more convoluted ways of getting the method name, but much simpler:

void MyMethod() {
  string currentMethodName = "MyMethod";
  //etc...
}

Albeit that a refactoring probably won't fix it automatically.

If you completely don't care about the (considerable) cost of using Reflection then this helper method should be useful:

using System.Diagnostics;
using System.Runtime.CompilerServices;
using System.Reflection;
//...

[MethodImpl(MethodImplOptions.NoInlining)]
public static string GetMyMethodName() {
  var st = new StackTrace(new StackFrame(1));
  return st.GetFrame(0).GetMethod().Name;
}

Correct way to try/except using Python requests module?

One additional suggestion to be explicit. It seems best to go from specific to general down the stack of errors to get the desired error to be caught, so the specific ones don't get masked by the general one.

How to present a modal atop the current view in Swift

You can try this code for Swift

 let popup : PopupVC = self.storyboard?.instantiateViewControllerWithIdentifier("PopupVC") as! PopupVC
 let navigationController = UINavigationController(rootViewController: popup)
 navigationController.modalPresentationStyle = UIModalPresentationStyle.OverCurrentContext
 self.presentViewController(navigationController, animated: true, completion: nil)

For swift 4 latest syntax using extension

extension UIViewController {
    func presentOnRoot(`with` viewController : UIViewController){
        let navigationController = UINavigationController(rootViewController: viewController)
        navigationController.modalPresentationStyle = UIModalPresentationStyle.overCurrentContext
        self.present(navigationController, animated: false, completion: nil)
    }
}

let popup : PopupVC = self.storyboard?.instantiateViewControllerWithIdentifier("PopupVC") as! PopupVC
self.presentOnRoot(with: popup)

Comparing strings, c++

Regarding the question,

can someone explain why the compare() function exists if a comparison can be made using simple operands?

Relative to < and ==, the compare function is conceptually simpler and in practice it can be more efficient since it avoids two comparisons per item for ordinary ordering of items.

As an example of simplicity, for small integer values you can write a compare function like this:

auto compare( int a, int b ) -> int { return a - b; }

which is highly efficient.

Now for a structure

struct Foo
{
    int a;
    int b;
    int c;
};

auto compare( Foo const& x, Foo const& y )
    -> int
{
    if( int const r = compare( x.a, y.a ) ) { return r; }
    if( int const r = compare( x.b, y.b ) ) { return r; }
    return compare( x.c, y.c );
}

Trying to express this lexicographic compare directly in terms of < you wind up with horrendous complexity and inefficiency, relatively speaking.

With C++11, for the simplicity alone ordinary less-than comparison based lexicographic compare can be very simply implemented in terms of tuple comparison.

Java 8 stream reverse order

You could define your own collector that collects the elements in reverse order:

public static <T> Collector<T, List<T>, List<T>> inReverse() {
    return Collector.of(
        ArrayList::new,
        (l, t) -> l.add(t),
        (l, r) -> {l.addAll(r); return l;},
        Lists::<T>reverse);
}

And use it like:

stream.collect(inReverse()).forEach(t -> ...)

I use an ArrayList in forward order to efficiently insert collect the items (at the end of the list), and Guava Lists.reverse to efficiently give a reversed view of the list without making another copy of it.

Here are some test cases for the custom collector:

Multiple Updates in MySQL

Since you have dynamic values, you need to use an IF or CASE for the columns to be updated. It gets kinda ugly, but it should work.

Using your example, you could do it like:

UPDATE table SET Col1 = CASE id
                          WHEN 1 THEN 1
                          WHEN 2 THEN 2
                          WHEN 4 THEN 10
                          ELSE Col1
                        END,
                 Col2 = CASE id
                          WHEN 3 THEN 3
                          WHEN 4 THEN 12
                          ELSE Col2
                        END
             WHERE id IN (1, 2, 3, 4);

How do I install a plugin for vim?

Update (as 2019):

cd ~/.vim
git clone git://github.com/tpope/vim-haml.git pack/bundle/start/haml

Explanation (from :h pack ad :h packages):

  1. All the directories found are added to runtimepath. They must be in ~/.vim/pack/whatever/start [you can only change whatever].
  2. the plugins found in the plugins dir in runtimepath are sourced.

So this load the plugin on start (hence the name start).

You can also get optional plugin (loaded with :packadd) if you put them in ~/.vim/pack/bundle/opt

pip install failing with: OSError: [Errno 13] Permission denied on directory

If you need permissions, you cannot use 'pip' with 'sudo'. You can do a trick, so that you can use 'sudo' and install package. Just place 'sudo python -m ...' in front of your pip command.

sudo python -m pip install --user -r package_name

invalid operands of types int and double to binary 'operator%'

Because % is only defined for integer types. That's the modulus operator.

5.6.2 of the standard:

The operands of * and / shall have arithmetic or enumeration type; the operands of % shall have integral or enumeration type. [...]

As Oli pointed out, you can use fmod(). Don't forget to include math.h.

How to create a DateTime equal to 15 minutes ago?

If you are using time.time() and wants timestamp as output

Simply use

CONSTANT_SECONDS = 900 # time  in seconds (900 seconds = 15 min)

current_time = int(time.time())
time_before_15_min = current_time - CONSTANT_SECONDS

You can change 900 seconds as per your required time.

How to escape apostrophe (') in MySql?

I think if you have any data point with apostrophe you can add one apostrophe before the apostrophe

eg. 'This is John's place'

Here MYSQL assumes two sentence 'This is John' 's place'

You can put 'This is John''s place'. I think it should work that way.

POST request not allowed - 405 Not Allowed - nginx, even with headers included

I have tried the solution which redirects 405 to 200, and in production environment(in my case, it's Google Load Balancing with Nginx Docker container), this hack causes some 502 errors(Google Load Balancing error code: backend_early_response_with_non_error_status).

In the end, I have made this work properly by replacing Nginx with OpenResty which is completely compatible with Nginx and have more plugins.

With ngx_coolkit, Now Nginx(OpenResty) could serve static files with POST request properly, here is the config file in my case:

server {
  listen 80;

  location / {
    override_method GET;
    proxy_pass http://127.0.0.1:8080;
  }
}

server {
  listen 8080;
  location / {
    root /var/www/web-static;
    index index.html;
    add_header Cache-Control no-cache;
  }
}

In the above config, I use override_method offered by ngx_coolkit to override the HTTP Method to GET.

Why does calling sumr on a stream with 50 tuples not complete

sumr is implemented in terms of foldRight:

 final def sumr(implicit A: Monoid[A]): A = F.foldRight(self, A.zero)(A.append)

foldRight is not always tail recursive, so you can overflow the stack if the collection is too long. See Why foldRight and reduceRight are NOT tail recursive? for some more discussion of when this is or isn't true.

Is it possible to modify a registry entry via a .bat/.cmd script?

This is how you can modify registry, without yes or no prompt and don't forget to run as administrator

reg add HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\etc\etc   /v Valuename /t REG_SZ /d valuedata  /f

Below is a real example to set internet explorer as my default browser

reg add HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Associations\UrlAssociations\https\UserChoice   /v ProgId /t REG_SZ /d IE.HTTPS  /f

/f Force: Force an update without prompting "Value exists, overwrite Y/N"

/d Data : The actual data to store as a "String", integer etc

/v Value : The value name eg ProgId

/t DataType : REG_SZ (default) | REG_DWORD | REG_EXPAND_SZ | REG_MULTI_SZ

Git Stash vs Shelve in IntelliJ IDEA

In addition to previous answers there is one important for me note:

shelve is JetBrains products feature (such as WebStorm, PhpStorm, PyCharm, etc.). It puts shelved files into .idea/shelf directory.

stash is one of git options. It puts stashed files under the .git directory.

Resource leak: 'in' is never closed

How do I run a single test using Jest?

Just a little add-on, because it seems there was kind of a fight if to use ./node_modules/.bin/jest -i ... or just jest -i ... or npm test -- -i ...

  1. Just calling jest works if you have it installed globally (as with npm install -g jest), a not-so-clean way of handling dependencies
  2. If you have Jest installed only locally in the package and want to call the Jest script without the npm script detour, you can use npx jest -i ... => this is exactly what npx is for. It saves you from writing ./node_modules/.bin/....

What is the correct "-moz-appearance" value to hide dropdown arrow of a <select> element

While you can't yet get Firefox to remove the dropdown arrow (see MatTheCat's post), you can hide your "stylized" background image from showing in Firefox.

-moz-background-position: -9999px -9999px!important;

This will position it out of frame, leaving you with the default select box arrow – while keeping the stylized version in Webkit.

R: Print list to a text file

jQuery event to trigger action when a div is made visible

There is a jQuery plugin available for watching change in DOM attributes,

https://github.com/darcyclarke/jQuery-Watch-Plugin

The plugin wraps All you need do is bind MutationObserver

You can then use it to watch the div using:

$("#selector").watch('css', function() {
    console.log("Visibility: " + this.style.display == 'none'?'hidden':'shown'));
    //or any random events
});

Difference between String replace() and replaceAll()

String replace(char oldChar, char newChar)

Returns a new string resulting from replacing all occurrences of oldChar in this string with newChar.

String replaceAll(String regex, String replacement

Replaces each substring of this string that matches the given regular expression with the given replacement.

Escape double quotes in parameter

As none of the answers above are straight forward:

Backslash escape \ is what you need:

myscript \"test\"

Display special characters when using print statement

Use repr:

a = "Hello\tWorld\nHello World"
print(repr(a))
# 'Hello\tWorld\nHello World'

Note you do not get \s for a space. I hope that was a typo...?

But if you really do want \s for spaces, you could do this:

print(repr(a).replace(' ',r'\s'))

Error: Unexpected value 'undefined' imported by the module

there is another simple solution for this. I have 2 modules which are somehow deep in the structure using each other. I ran into the same problem with circular dependencies with webpack and angular 2. I simply changed the way of how the one module is declared:

....

@NgModule({
    imports: [
        CommonModule,
        FormsModule,
        require('../navigation/navigation.module')
    ],
    declarations: COMPONENTS,
    exports: COMPONENTS
})
class DppIncludeModule {
    static forRoot(): ModuleWithProviders {
        return {
            ngModule: DppIncludeModule
        };
    }
}

export = DppIncludeModule;

When I now using the imports statement on ngModule attribute I simply use:

@NgModule({
    imports: [
        CommonModule,
        ServicesModule.forRoot(),
        NouisliderModule,
        FormsModule,
        ChartModule,
        DppAccordeonModule,
        PipesModule,
        require('../../../unbranded/include/include.module')
    ],
....

With this all problems are away.

How do I keep Python print from adding newlines or spaces?

Python 2.5.2 (r252:60911, Sep 27 2008, 07:03:14)

hello there

But really, you should use sys.stdout.write directly.

How to dump a dict to a json file?

import json
with open('result.json', 'w') as fp:
    json.dump(sample, fp)

This is an easier way to do it.

In the second line of code the file result.json gets created and opened as the variable fp.

In the third line your dict sample gets written into the result.json!

Failed to execute goal org.apache.maven.plugins:maven-surefire-plugin:2.12:test (default-test) on project.

This happens when Maven tries to run your test cases while building the jar. You can simply skip running the test cases by adding -DskipTests at the end of your maven command.

Ex: mvn clean install -DskipTests or mvn clean package -DskipTests

Go to particular revision

To go to a particular version/commit run following commands. HASH-CODE you can get from git log --oneline -n 10

git reset --hard HASH-CODE

Note - After reset to particular version/commit you can run git pull --rebase, if you want to bring back all the commits which are discarded.

how to stop a running script in Matlab

MATLAB doesn't respond to Ctrl-C while executing a mex implemented function such as svd. Also when MATLAB is allocating big chunk of memory it doesn't respond. A good practice is to always run your functions for small amount of data, and when all test passes run it for actual scale. When time is an issue, you would want to analyze how much time each segment of code runs as well as their rough time complexity.

Retrieve specific commit from a remote Git repository

I did a pull on my git repo:

git pull --rebase <repo> <branch>

Allowing git to pull in all the code for the branch and then I went to do a reset over to the commit that interested me.

git reset --hard <commit-hash>

Hope this helps.

How to Convert date into MM/DD/YY format in C#

 DateTime.Today.ToString("MM/dd/yy")

Look at the docs for custom date and time format strings for more info.

(Oh, and I hope this app isn't destined for other cultures. That format could really confuse a lot of people... I've never understood the whole month/day/year thing, to be honest. It just seems weird to go "middle/low/high" in terms of scale like that.)

Accessing an SQLite Database in Swift

I've created an elegant SQLite library written completely in Swift called SwiftData.

Some of its feature are:

  • Bind objects conveniently to the string of SQL
  • Support for transactions and savepoints
  • Inline error handling
  • Completely thread safe by default

It provides an easy way to execute 'changes' (e.g. INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE, etc.):

if let err = SD.executeChange("INSERT INTO Cities (Name, Population, IsWarm, FoundedIn) VALUES ('Toronto', 2615060, 0, '1793-08-27')") {
    //there was an error during the insert, handle it here
} else {
    //no error, the row was inserted successfully
}

and 'queries' (e.g. SELECT):

let (resultSet, err) = SD.executeQuery("SELECT * FROM Cities")
if err != nil {
    //there was an error during the query, handle it here
} else {
    for row in resultSet {
        if let name = row["Name"].asString() {
            println("The City name is: \(name)")
        }
        if let population = row["Population"].asInt() {
            println("The population is: \(population)")
        }
        if let isWarm = row["IsWarm"].asBool() {
            if isWarm {
                println("The city is warm")
            } else {
                println("The city is cold")
            }
        }
        if let foundedIn = row["FoundedIn"].asDate() {
            println("The city was founded in: \(foundedIn)")
        }
    }
}

Along with many more features!

how to fetch array keys with jQuery?

Use an object (key/value pairs, the nearest JavaScript has to an associative array) for this and not the array object. Other than that, I believe that is the most elegant way

var foo = {};
foo['alfa'] = "first item";
foo['beta'] = "second item";

for (var key in foo) {
        console.log(key);
}

Note: JavaScript doesn't guarantee any particular order for the properties. So you cannot expect the property that was defined first to appear first, it might come last.

EDIT:

In response to your comment, I believe that this article best sums up the cases for why arrays in JavaScript should not be used in this fashion -

How to generate UML diagrams (especially sequence diagrams) from Java code?

By far the best tool I have used for reverse engineering, and round tripping java -> UML is Borland's Together. It is based on Eclipse (not just a single plugin) and really works well.

Deprecated: mysql_connect()

Warning "deprecated" in general means that you are trying to use function that is outdated. It doeasnt mean thaqt your code wont work, but you should consider refactoring.

In your case functons mysql_ are deprecated. If you want to know more about that here is good explanation already : Why shouldn't I use mysql_* functions in PHP?

highlight the navigation menu for the current page

I would normally handle this on the server-side of things (meaning PHP, ASP.NET, etc). The idea is that when the page is loaded, the server-side controls the mechanism (perhaps by setting a CSS value) that is reflected in the resulting HTML the client sees.

      MONTH(columnName) = MONTH(CURRENT_DATE());

Allow a div to cover the whole page instead of the area within the container

Add position:fixed. Then the cover is fixed over the whole screen, also when you scroll.
And add maybe also margin: 0; padding:0; so it wont have some space's around the cover.

#dimScreen
{
    position:fixed;
    padding:0;
    margin:0;

    top:0;
    left:0;

    width: 100%;
    height: 100%;
    background:rgba(255,255,255,0.5);
}

And if it shouldn't stick on the screen fixed, use position:absolute;

CSS Tricks have also an interesting article about fullscreen property.

Edit:
Just came across this answer, so I wanted to add some additional things.
Like Daniel Allen Langdon mentioned in the comment, add top:0; left:0; to be sure, the cover sticks on the very top and left of the screen.

If you some elements are at the top of the cover (so it doesn't cover everything), then add z-index. The higher the number, the more levels it covers.

Show a leading zero if a number is less than 10

There's no built-in JavaScript function to do this, but you can write your own fairly easily:

function pad(n) {
    return (n < 10) ? ("0" + n) : n;
}

EDIT:

Meanwhile there is a native JS function that does that. See String#padStart

Difference between Activity Context and Application Context

This obviously is deficiency of the API design. In the first place, Activity Context and Application context are totally different objects, so the method parameters where context is used should use ApplicationContext or Activity directly, instead of using parent class Context. In the second place, the doc should specify which context to use or not explicitly.

NPM clean modules

I have added few lines inside package.json:

"scripts": {
  ...
  "clean": "rmdir /s /q node_modules",
  "reinstall": "npm run clean && npm install",
  "rebuild": "npm run clean && npm install && rmdir /s /q dist && npm run build --prod",
  ...
}

If you want to clean only you can use this rimraf node_modules.

Maximize a window programmatically and prevent the user from changing the windows state

Change image size with JavaScript

Changing an image is easy, but how do you change it back to the original size after it has been changed? You may try this to change all images in a document back to the original size:

var i,L=document.images.length;
for(i=0;i<L;++i){
 document.images[i].style.height = 'auto'; //setting CSS value
 document.images[i].style.width = 'auto'; //setting CSS value
// document.images[i].height = ''; (don't need this, would be setting img.attribute)
// document.images[i].width = ''; (don't need this, would be setting img.attribute)
}

Disable a Maven plugin defined in a parent POM

The thread is old, but maybe someone is still interested. The shortest form I found is further improvement on the example from ?lex and bmargulies. The execution tag will look like:

<execution>
    <id>TheNameOfTheRelevantExecution</id>
    <phase/>
</execution>

2 points I want to highlight:

  1. phase is set to nothing, which looks less hacky than 'none', though still a hack.
  2. id must be the same as execution you want to override. If you don't specify id for execution, Maven will do it implicitly (in a way not expected intuitively by you).

After posting found it is already in stackoverflow: In a Maven multi-module project, how can I disable a plugin in one child?

file_put_contents: Failed to open stream, no such file or directory

There is definitly a problem with the destination folder path.

Your above error message says, it wants to put the contents to a file in the directory /files/grantapps/, which would be beyond your vhost, but somewhere in the system (see the leading absolute slash )

You should double check:

  • Is the directory /home/username/public_html/files/grantapps/ really present.
  • Contains your loop and your file_put_contents-Statement the absolute path /home/username/public_html/files/grantapps/

WCF change endpoint address at runtime

This is a simple example of what I used for a recent test. You need to make sure that your security settings are the same on the server and client.

var myBinding = new BasicHttpBinding();
myBinding.Security.Mode = BasicHttpSecurityMode.None;
var myEndpointAddress = new EndpointAddress("http://servername:8732/TestService/");
client = new ClientTest(myBinding, myEndpointAddress);
client.someCall();

Simplest two-way encryption using PHP

IMPORTANT this answer is valid only for PHP 5, in PHP 7 use built-in cryptographic functions.

Here is simple but secure enough implementation:

  • AES-256 encryption in CBC mode
  • PBKDF2 to create encryption key out of plain-text password
  • HMAC to authenticate the encrypted message.

print memory address of Python variable

There is no way to get the memory address of a value in Python 2.7 in general. In Jython or PyPy, the implementation doesn't even know your value's address (and there's not even a guarantee that it will stay in the same place—e.g., the garbage collector is allowed to move it around if it wants).

However, if you only care about CPython, id is already returning the address. If the only issue is how to format that integer in a certain way… it's the same as formatting any integer:

>>> hex(33)
0x21
>>> '{:#010x}'.format(33) # 32-bit
0x00000021
>>> '{:#018x}'.format(33) # 64-bit
0x0000000000000021

… and so on.

However, there's almost never a good reason for this. If you actually need the address of an object, it's presumably to pass it to ctypes or similar, in which case you should use ctypes.addressof or similar.

Position last flex item at the end of container

Flexible Box Layout Module - 8.1. Aligning with auto margins

Auto margins on flex items have an effect very similar to auto margins in block flow:

  • During calculations of flex bases and flexible lengths, auto margins are treated as 0.

  • Prior to alignment via justify-content and align-self, any positive free space is distributed to auto margins in that dimension.

Therefore you could use margin-top: auto to distribute the space between the other elements and the last element.

This will position the last element at the bottom.

  2. Install-Package Microsoft.AspNet.WebApi.Core -version 5.2.3

How to delete a remote tag?

To delete a tag on your remote repository, you can use

git push <remote> :refs/tags/<tagname>

The way to interpret the above is to read it as the null value, the value before the colon is being pushed to remote tag name.

References with text in LaTeX

Using the hyperref package, you could also declare a new command by using \newcommand{\secref}[1]{\autoref{#1}. \nameref{#1}} in the pre-amble. Placing \secref{section:my} in the text generates: 1. My section.

faced the same problem: Gradle sync failed: failed to find Build Tools revision x.x.x

reason: the build tools for that version was not down loaded properly solution:

  1. Click File > Settings (on a Mac, Android Studio > Preferences) to open the Settings dialog.
  2. Go to Appearance & Behavior > System Settings > Android SDK (Or simply search for Android SDK on the search bar)
  3. Go to SDK Tools tab > Check the Show Package Details checkbox
  4. uncheck the specific version to remove it.
  5. click apply.

then follow the steps 1 to 3 and 6.

How can I convert a char to int in Java?

You can use static methods from Character class to get Numeric value from char.

char x = '9';

if (Character.isDigit(x)) { // Determines if the specified character is a digit.
    int y = Character.getNumericValue(x); //Returns the int value that the
                                          //specified Unicode character represents.
    System.out.println(y);
}

Pandas groupby month and year

You can use either resample or Grouper (which resamples under the hood).

First make sure that the datetime column is actually of datetimes (hit it with pd.to_datetime). It's easier if it's a DatetimeIndex:

In [11]: df1
Out[11]:
            abc  xyz
Date
2013-06-01  100  200
2013-06-03  -20   50
2013-08-15   40   -5
2014-01-20   25   15
2014-02-21   60   80

In [12]: g = df1.groupby(pd.Grouper(freq="M"))  # DataFrameGroupBy (grouped by Month)

In [13]: g.sum()
Out[13]:
            abc  xyz
Date
2013-06-30   80  250
2013-07-31  NaN  NaN
2013-08-31   40   -5
2013-09-30  NaN  NaN
2013-10-31  NaN  NaN
2013-11-30  NaN  NaN
2013-12-31  NaN  NaN
2014-01-31   25   15
2014-02-28   60   80

In [14]: df1.resample("M", how='sum')  # the same
Out[14]:
            abc  xyz
Date
2013-06-30   40  125
2013-07-31  NaN  NaN
2013-08-31   40   -5
2013-09-30  NaN  NaN
2013-10-31  NaN  NaN
2013-11-30  NaN  NaN
2013-12-31  NaN  NaN
2014-01-31   25   15
2014-02-28   60   80

Note: Previously pd.Grouper(freq="M") was written as pd.TimeGrouper("M"). The latter is now deprecated since 0.21.

I had thought the following would work, but it doesn't (due to as_index not being respected? I'm not sure.). I'm including this for interest's sake.

If it's a column (it has to be a datetime64 column! as I say, hit it with to_datetime), you can use the PeriodIndex:

In [21]: df
Out[21]:
        Date  abc  xyz
0 2013-06-01  100  200
1 2013-06-03  -20   50
2 2013-08-15   40   -5
3 2014-01-20   25   15
4 2014-02-21   60   80

In [22]: pd.DatetimeIndex(df.Date).to_period("M")  # old way
Out[22]:
<class 'pandas.tseries.period.PeriodIndex'>
[2013-06, ..., 2014-02]
Length: 5, Freq: M

In [23]: per = df.Date.dt.to_period("M") # new way to get the same

In [24]: g = df.groupby(per)

In [25]: g.sum() # dang not quite what we want (doesn't fill in the gaps)
Out[25]:
         abc  xyz
2013-06   80  250
2013-08   40   -5
2014-01   25   15
2014-02   60   80

To get the desired result we have to reindex...

VSCode Change Default Terminal

Go to File > Preferences > Settings (or press Ctrl+,) then click the leftmost icon in the top right corner, "Open Settings (JSON)"

screenshot showing location of icon

In the JSON settings window, add this (within the curly braces {}):

"terminal.integrated.shell.windows": "C:\\WINDOWS\\System32\\bash.exe"`

(Here you can put any other custom settings you want as well)

Checkout that path to make sure your bash.exe file is there otherwise find out where it is and point to that path instead.

Now if you open a new terminal window in VS Code, it should open with bash instead of PowerShell.

Large Numbers in Java

Depending on what you're doing you might like to take a look at GMP (gmplib.org) which is a high-performance multi-precision library. To use it in Java you need JNI wrappers around the binary library.

See some of the Alioth Shootout code for an example of using it instead of BigInteger to calculate Pi to an arbitrary number of digits.

Create excel ranges using column numbers in vba?

Here is a condensed replacement for the ConvertToLetter function that in theory should work for all possible positive integers. For example, 1412 produces "BBH" as the result.

Public Function ColumnNumToStr(ColNum As Integer) As String
Dim Value As Integer
Dim Rtn As String
    Rtn = ""
    Value = ColNum - 1
    While Value > 25
        Rtn = Chr(65 + (Value Mod 26)) & Rtn
        Value = Fix(Value / 26) - 1
    Wend
    Rtn = Chr(65 + Value) & Rtn
    ColumnNumToStr = Rtn
End Function

notifyDataSetChange not working from custom adapter

I had the same problem using ListAdapter

I let Android Studio implement methods for me and this is what I got:

public class CustomAdapter implements ListAdapter {
    ...
    @Override
    public void registerDataSetObserver(DataSetObserver observer) {

    }

    @Override
    public void unregisterDataSetObserver(DataSetObserver observer) {

    }
    ...
}

The problem is that these methods do not call super implementations so notifyDataSetChange is never called.

Either remove these overrides manually or add super calls and it should work again.

@Override
public void registerDataSetObserver(DataSetObserver observer) {
    super.registerDataSetObserver(observer);
}

@Override
public void unregisterDataSetObserver(DataSetObserver observer) {
    super.unregisterDataSetObserver(observer);
}

How to enable C# 6.0 feature in Visual Studio 2013?

A lot of the answers here were written prior to Roslyn (the open-source .NET C# and VB compilers) moving to .NET 4.6. So they won't help you if your project targets, say, 4.5.2 as mine did (inherited and can't be changed).

But you can grab a previous version of Roslyn from https://www.nuget.org/packages/Microsoft.Net.Compilers and install that instead of the latest version. I used 1.3.2. (I tried 2.0.1 - which appears to be the last version that runs on .NET 4.5 - but I couldn't get it to compile*.) Run this from the Package Manager console in VS 2013:

PM> Install-Package Microsoft.Net.Compilers -Version 1.3.2

Then restart Visual Studio. I had a couple of problems initially; you need to set the C# version back to default (C#6.0 doesn't appear in the version list but seems to have been made the default), then clean, save, restart VS and recompile.

Interestingly, I didn't have any IntelliSense errors due to the C#6.0 features used in the code (which were the reason for wanting C#6.0 in the first place).

* version 2.0.1 threw error The "Microsoft.CodeAnalysis.BuildTasks.Csc task could not be loaded from the assembly Microsoft.Build.Tasks.CodeAnalysis.dll. Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.Build.Utilities.Core, Version=14.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified. Confirm that the declaration is correct, that the assembly and all its dependencies are available, and that the task contains a public class that implements Microsoft.Build.Framework.ITask.

UPDATE One thing I've noticed since posting this answer is that if you change any code during debug ("Edit and Continue"), you'll like find that your C#6.0 code will suddenly show as errors in what seems to revert to a pre-C#6.0 environment. This requires a restart of your debug session. VERY annoying especially for web applications.

How to create a simple http proxy in node.js?

Super simple and readable, here's how you create a local proxy server to a local HTTP server with just Node.js (tested on v8.1.0). I've found it particular useful for integration testing so here's my share:

/**
 * Once this is running open your browser and hit http://localhost
 * You'll see that the request hits the proxy and you get the HTML back
 */

'use strict';

const net = require('net');
const http = require('http');

const PROXY_PORT = 80;
const HTTP_SERVER_PORT = 8080;

let proxy = net.createServer(socket => {
    socket.on('data', message => {
        console.log('---PROXY- got message', message.toString());

        let serviceSocket = new net.Socket();

        serviceSocket.connect(HTTP_SERVER_PORT, 'localhost', () => {
            console.log('---PROXY- Sending message to server');
            serviceSocket.write(message);
        });

        serviceSocket.on('data', data => {
            console.log('---PROXY- Receiving message from server', data.toString();

How to create threads in nodejs

You can get multi-threading using Napa.js.

https://github.com/Microsoft/napajs

"Napa.js is a multi-threaded JavaScript runtime built on V8, which was originally designed to develop highly iterative services with non-compromised performance in Bing. As it evolves, we find it useful to complement Node.js in CPU-bound tasks, with the capability of executing JavaScript in multiple V8 isolates and communicating between them. Napa.js is exposed as a Node.js module, while it can also be embedded in a host process without Node.js dependency."

Sorting options elements alphabetically using jQuery

Malakgeorge answer is nice an can be easily wrapped into a jQuery function:

$.fn.sortSelectByText = function(){
    this.each(function(){
        var selected = $(this).val();
        var opts_list = $(this).find('option');
        opts_list.sort(function(a, b) { return $(a).text() > $(b).text() ? 1 : -1; });
        $(this).html('').append(opts_list);
        $(this).val(selected);
    })
    return this;
}

How can I create a product key for my C# application?

The trick is to have an algorithm that only you know (such that it could be decoded at the other end).

There are simple things like, "Pick a prime number and add a magic number to it"

More convoluted options such as using asymmetric encryption of a set of binary data (that could include a unique identifier, version numbers, etc) and distribute the encrypted data as the key.

If you are using .NET version 4.0. the validateRequestion is turned on by default for all the pages. in previous versions 1.1 and 2.0 it was only for aspx page. You can turn the default validation off. In that case you have to do the due diligence and make sure that the data is clean. Use HtmlEncode. Do the following to turn the validation off

In the web.config add the following lines for system.web

Open a specific type of file

When running on 4.4 or higher, you request to open a file that's managed by another app

static final int REQUEST_IMAGE_OPEN = 1;

public void selectImage() {
    Intent intent = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_OPEN_DOCUMENT);
    intent.setType("image/*");
    intent.addCategory(Intent.CATEGORY_OPENABLE);
    // Only the system receives the ACTION_OPEN_DOCUMENT, so no need to test.
    startActivityForResult(intent, REQUEST_IMAGE_OPEN);
}

@Override
protected void onActivityResult(int requestCode, int resultCode, Intent data) {
    if (requestCode == REQUEST_IMAGE_OPEN && resultCode == RESULT_OK) {

Differences between fork and exec

I think some concepts from "Advanced Unix Programming" by Marc Rochkind were helpful in understanding the different roles of fork()/exec(), especially for someone used to the Windows CreateProcess() model:

A program is a collection of instructions and data that is kept in a regular file on disk. (from 1.1.2 Programs, Processes, and Threads)

.

In order to run a program, the kernel is first asked to create a new process, which is an environment in which a program executes. (also from 1.1.2 Programs, Processes, and Threads)

.

It’s impossible to understand the exec or fork system calls without fully understanding the distinction between a process and a program. If these terms are new to you, you may want to go back and review Section 1.1.2. If you’re ready to proceed now, we’ll summarize the distinction in one sentence: A process is an execution environment that consists of instruction, user-data, and system-data segments, as well as lots of other resources acquired at runtime, whereas a program is a file containing instructions and data that are used to initialize the instruction and user-data segments of a process. (from 5.3 exec System Calls)

Once you understand the distinction between a program and a process, the behavior of fork() and exec() function can be summarized as:

  • fork() creates a duplicate of the current process
  • exec() replaces the program in the current process with another program

Assertion failure in dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:forIndexPath:

The problem is most likely because you config custom UITableViewCell in storyboard but you do not use storyboard to instantiate your UITableViewController which uses this UITableViewCell. For example, in MainStoryboard, you have a UITableViewController subclass called MyTableViewController and have a custom dynamic UITableViewCell called MyTableViewCell with identifier id "MyCell".

If you create your custom UITableViewController like this:

 MyTableViewController *myTableViewController = [[MyTableViewController alloc] init];

It will not automatically register your custom tableviewcell for you. You have to manually register it.

But if you use storyboard to instantiate MyTableViewController, like this:

UIStoryboard *storyboard = [UIStoryboard storyboardWithName:@"MainStoryboard" bundle:nil];
MyTableViewController *myTableViewController = [storyboard  instantiateViewControllerWithIdentifier:@"MyTableViewController"];

Nice thing happens! UITableViewController will automatically register your custom tableview cell that you define in storyboard for you.

In your delegate method "cellForRowAtIndexPath", you can create you table view cell like this :

- (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath {
static NSString *CellIdentifier = @"MyCell";
UITableViewCell *cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:CellIdentifier forIndexPath:indexPath];

//Configure your cell here ...

return cell;
}

dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier will automatically create new cell for you if there is not reusable cell available in the recycling queue.

Then you are done!

Git - How to use .netrc file on Windows to save user and password

Is it possible to use a .netrc file on Windows?

Yes: You must:

  • define environment variable %HOME% (pre-Git 2.0, no longer needed with Git 2.0+)
  • put a _netrc file in %HOME%

If you are using Windows 7/10, in a CMD session, type:

setx HOME %USERPROFILE%

and the %HOME% will be set to 'C:\Users\"username"'.
Go that that folder (cd %HOME%) and make a file called '_netrc'

Note: Again, for Windows, you need a '_netrc' file, not a '.netrc' file.

Its content is quite standard (Replace the <examples> with your values):

machine <hostname1>
login <login1>
password <password1>
machine <hostname2>
login <login2>
password <password2>

Luke mentions in the comments:

Using the latest version of msysgit on Windows 7, I did not need to set the HOME environment variable. The _netrc file alone did the trick.

This is indeed what I mentioned in "Trying to “install” github, .ssh dir not there":
git-cmd.bat included in msysgit does set the %HOME% environment variable:

@if not exist "%HOME%" @set HOME=%HOMEDRIVE%%HOMEPATH%
@if not exist "%HOME%" @set HOME=%USERPROFILE%

??? believes in the comments that "it seems that it won't work for http protocol"

However, I answered that netrc is used by curl, and works for HTTP protocol, as shown in this example (look for 'netrc' in the page): . Also used with HTTP protocol here: "_netrc/.netrc alternative to cURL".

A common trap with with netrc support on Windows is that git will bypass using it if an origin https url specifies a user name.

For example, if your .git/config file contains:

[remote "origin"]
     fetch = +refs/heads/*:refs/remotes/origin/*
     url = https://[email protected]/p/my-project/

Git will not resolve your credentials via _netrc, to fix this remove your username, like so:

[remote "origin"]
     fetch = +refs/heads/*:refs/remotes/origin/*
     url = https://code.google.com/p/my-project/

Alternative solution: With git version 1.7.9+ (January 2012): This answer from Mark Longair details the credential cache mechanism which also allows you to not store your password in plain text as shown below.

With Git 1.8.3 (April 2013):

You now can use an encrypted .netrc (with gpg).
On Windows: %HOME%/_netrc (_, not '.')

A new read-only credential helper (in contrib/) to interact with the .netrc/.authinfo files has been added.

That script would allow you to use gpg-encrypted netrc files, avoiding the issue of having your credentials stored in a plain text file.

Files with the .gpg extension will be decrypted by GPG before parsing.
Multiple -f arguments are OK. They are processed in order, and the first matching entry found is returned via the credential helper protocol.

When no -f option is given, .authinfo.gpg, .netrc.gpg, .authinfo, and .netrc files in your home directory are used in this order.

To enable this credential helper:

git config credential.helper '$shortname -f AUTHFILE1 -f AUTHFILE2'

(Note that Git will prepend "git-credential-" to the helper name and look for it in the path.)

# and if you want lots of debugging info:
git config credential.helper '$shortname -f AUTHFILE -d'

#or to see the files opened and data found:
git config credential.helper '$shortname -f AUTHFILE -v'

See a full example at "Is there a way to skip password typing when using https:// github"

With Git 2.18+ (June 2018), you now can customize the GPG program used to decrypt the encrypted .netrc file.

See commit 786ef50, commit f07eeed (12 May 2018) by Luis Marsano (``).
(Merged by Junio C Hamano -- gitster -- in commit 017b7c5, 30 May 2018)

git-credential-netrc: accept gpg option

git-credential-netrc was hardcoded to decrypt with 'gpg' regardless of the gpg.program option.
This is a problem on distributions like Debian that call modern GnuPG something else, like 'gpg2'

connect to host localhost port 22: Connection refused

You may should edit your /etc/hosts. For example if my hostname is ub0, but the hostname in /etc/hosts is localhost, it may occur

connect to host ub0 port 22: Connection refused

Because the hostname in /etc/hosts is localhost not ub0.

So, you should be careful the hostname when building up distributed clusters.

React Modifying Textarea Values

I think you want something along the line of:

Parent:

<Editor name={this.state.fileData} />

Editor:

var Editor = React.createClass({
  displayName: 'Editor',
  propTypes: {
    name: React.PropTypes.string.isRequired
  },
  getInitialState: function() {
    return {
      value: this.props.name
    };
  },
  handleChange: function(event) {
    this.setState({value: event.target.value});
  },
  render: function() {
    return (
      <form id="noter-save-form" method="POST">
        <textarea id="noter-text-area" name="textarea" value={this.state.value} onChange={this.handleChange} />
        <input type="submit" value="Save" />
      </form>
    );
  }
});

This is basically a direct copy of the example provided on https://facebook.github.io/react/docs/forms.html

Update for React 16.8:

import React, { useState } from 'react';

const Editor = (props) => {
    const [value, setValue] = useState(props.name);

    const handleChange = (event) => {
        setValue(event.target.value);
    };

    return (
        <form id="noter-save-form" method="POST">
            <textarea id="noter-text-area" name="textarea" value={value} onChange={handleChange} />
            <input type="submit" value="Save" />
        </form>
    );
}

Editor.propTypes = {
    name: PropTypes.string.isRequired
};

What's the most elegant way to cap a number to a segment?

This does not want to be a "just-use-a-library" answer but just in case you're using Lodash you can use .clamp:

_.clamp(yourInput, lowerBound, upperBound);

So that:

_.clamp(22, -10, 10); // => 10

Here is its implementation, taken from Lodash source:

/**
 * The base implementation of `_.clamp` which doesn't coerce arguments.
 *
 * @private
 * @param {number} number The number to clamp.
 * @param {number} [lower] The lower bound.
 * @param {number} upper The upper bound.
 * @returns {number} Returns the clamped number.
 */
function baseClamp(number, lower, upper) {
  if (number === number) {
    if (upper !== undefined) {
      number = number <= upper ? number : upper;
    }
    if (lower !== undefined) {
      number = number >= lower ? number : lower;
    }
  }
  return number;
}

Also, it's worth noting that Lodash makes single methods available as standalone modules, so in case you need only this method, you can install it without the rest of the library:

npm i --save lodash.clamp

how can I copy a conditional formatting in Excel 2010 to other cells, which is based on a other cells content?

I had this problem too and couldn't solve it without using VBA.

In my case I had a table with numbers that I wanted to be formatted and a corresponding table next to it with the desired formatting values.

i.e. While column F contains the values I want to format, the desired formatting for each cell is captured in column Z, expressed as "RED", "AMBER" or "GREEN."

Quick solution below. Manually select the range to which to apply the conditional formatting and then run the macro.

   Sub ConditionalFormatting()
For Each Cell In Selection.Cells
With Cell
    'clean
    .FormatConditions.Delete

    'green rule
    .FormatConditions.Add Type:=xlExpression, Formula1:= _
        "=$Z" & Cell.Row & "=""GREEN"""
    .FormatConditions(.FormatConditions.Count).SetFirstPriority
    With .FormatConditions(1).Font
        .Color = -11489280
        .TintAndShade = 0
    End With
    .FormatConditions(1).StopIfTrue = False

    'amber rule
    .FormatConditions.Add Type:=xlExpression, Formula1:= _
        "=$Z" & Cell.Row & "=""AMBER"""
    .FormatConditions(.FormatConditions.Count).SetFirstPriority
    With .FormatConditions(1).Font
        .ThemeColor = xlThemeColorAccent6
        .TintAndShade = -0.249946592608417
    End With
    .FormatConditions(1).StopIfTrue = False

    'red rule
    .FormatConditions.Add Type:=xlExpression, Formula1:= _
        "=$Z" & Cell.Row & "=""RED"""
    .FormatConditions(.FormatConditions.Count).SetFirstPriority
    With .FormatConditions(1).Font
        .Color = -16776961
        .TintAndShade = 0
    End With
    .FormatConditions(1).StopIfTrue = False
End With

Next Cell

End Sub

How do you append rows to a table using jQuery?

Boolean vs tinyint(1) for boolean values in MySQL

While it's true that bool and tinyint(1) are functionally identical, bool should be the preferred option because it carries the semantic meaning of what you're trying to do. Also, many ORMs will convert bool into your programing language's native boolean type.

How to get Locale from its String representation in Java?

  1. Java provides lot of things with proper implementation lot of complexity can be avoided. This returns ms_MY.

    String key = "ms-MY";
    Locale locale = new Locale.Builder().setLanguageTag(key).build();

  2. Apache Commons has LocaleUtils to help parse a string representation. This will return en_US

    String str = "en-US";
    Locale locale =  LocaleUtils.toLocale(str);
    System.out.println(locale.toString());

  3. You can also use locale constructors.

    // Construct a locale from a language code.(eg: en)
    new Locale(String language)
    // Construct a locale from language and country.(eg: en and US)
    new Locale(String language, String country)
    // Construct a locale from language, country and variant.
    new Locale(String language, String country, String variant)

Please check this LocaleUtils and this Locale to explore more methods.

How to get cumulative sum

The latest version of SQL Server (2012) permits the following.

SELECT
    RowID,
    Col1,
    SUM(Col1) OVER(ORDER BY RowId ROWS BETWEEN UNBOUNDED PRECEDING AND CURRENT ROW) AS Col2
FROM tablehh
ORDER BY RowId

or

SELECT
    GroupID,
    RowID,
    Col1,
    SUM(Col1) OVER(PARTITION BY GroupID ORDER BY RowId ROWS BETWEEN UNBOUNDED PRECEDING AND CURRENT ROW) AS Col2
FROM tablehh
ORDER BY RowId

This is even faster. Partitioned version completes in 34 seconds over 5 million rows for me.
