Retrofit 2 - Dynamic URL

If you already have your code setup and you don’t want to make changes on the different interfaces you can, use the solution described in this link. The main point is the method changeApiBaseUrl that updates the URL and recreates the Retrofit builder.

For me this was caused by some of my code. The detailed compiler output in XCode actually pin-pointed the method where it was crashing.

I then commented out all the code in the method, made it return nil, and it did compile. I then re-implemented the method using different and much simpler code, and it worked.

I filed a bug report with Apple. This is the - admittedly somewhat crazy - code that caused the crash in XCode 7 / Swift 2.0.

I guess I got a little over-excited using the map function there... The new version is a lot simpler and also more human comprehensible. Still the compiler shouldn't crash. At worst it should show some errors. The code as is worked in Swift 1.x

Flask example with POST

Before actually answering your question:

Parameters in a URL (e.g. key=listOfUsers/user1) are GET parameters and you shouldn't be using them for POST requests. A quick explanation of the difference between GET and POST can be found here.

In your case, to make use of REST principles, you should probably have:

http://ip:5000/users
http://ip:5000/users/<user_id>

Then, on each URL, you can define the behaviour of different HTTP methods (GET, POST, PUT, DELETE). For example, on /users/<user_id>, you want the following:

GET /users/<user_id> - return the information for <user_id>
POST /users/<user_id> - modify/update the information for <user_id> by providing the data
PUT - I will omit this for now as it is similar enough to `POST` at this level of depth
DELETE /users/<user_id> - delete user with ID <user_id> 

So, in your example, you want do a POST to /users/user_1 with the POST data being "John". Then the XPath expression or whatever other way you want to access your data should be hidden from the user and not tightly couple to the URL. This way, if you decide to change the way you store and access data, instead of all your URL's changing, you will simply have to change the code on the server-side.

Now, the answer to your question: Below is a basic semi-pseudocode of how you can achieve what I mentioned above:

There are a lot of other things to consider like the POST request content-type but I think what I've said so far should be a reasonable starting point. I know I haven't directly answered the exact question you were asking but I hope this helps you. I will make some edits/additions later as well.

Connect to Active Directory via LDAP

ldapConnection is the server adres: ldap.example.com Ldap.Connection.Path is the path inside the ADS that you like to use insert in LDAP format.

You start at the deepest OU working back to the root of the AD, then add dc=X for every domain section until you have everything including the top level domain

Reading a key from the Web.Config using ConfigurationManager

I found this solution to be quite helpful. It uses C# 4.0 DynamicObject to wrap the ConfigurationManager. So instead of accessing values like this:

 WebConfigurationManager.AppSettings["PFUserName"]

you access them as a property:

combining results of two select statements

While it is possible to combine the results, I would advise against doing so.

You have two fundamentally different types of queries that return a different number of rows, a different number of columns and different types of data. It would be best to leave it as it is - two separate queries.

netstat on Solaris will not tell you this, nor will older versions of lsof, but if you download and build/install a newer version of lsof, this can tell you that.

I had a problem yesterday with a crashed Jetty (Java) process, which only left 2 files in its /proc/[PID] directory (psinfo & usage).

pfiles failed to find the process (because the date it needed was not there)

lsof found it for me.

Spark 2.2 introduces typedLit to support Seq, Map, and Tuples (SPARK-19254) and following calls should be supported (Scala):

string.Join(",", yourCollection)

This way you don't need the StringBuilder and the loop.




Long addition about async case. As of 2019, it's not a rare setup when the data are coming asynchronously.

In case your data are in async collection, there is no string.Join overload taking IAsyncEnumerable<T>. But it's easy to create one manually, hacking the code from string.Join:

If the data are coming asynchronously but the interface IAsyncEnumerable<T> is not supported (like the mentioned in comments SqlDataReader), it's relatively easy to wrap the data into an IAsyncEnumerable<T>:

Other answers here provide solutions for triggering change detection cycles that will update component's view (which is not same as full re-render).

Full re-render, which would destroy and reinitialize component (calling all lifecycle hooks and rebuilding view) can be done by using ng-template, ng-container and ViewContainerRef in following way:

ResourceBundle doesn't load files? You need to get the files into a resource first. How about just loading into a FileInputStream then a PropertyResourceBundle

Depending on your use-case, you want to use different techniques with different semantics.

Multiply a list for Immutable items

For immutable items, like None, bools, ints, floats, strings, tuples, or frozensets, you can do it like this:

Note that this is usually only used with immutable items (strings, tuples, frozensets, ) in the list, because they all point to the same item in the same place in memory. I use this frequently when I have to build a table with a schema of all strings, so that I don't have to give a highly redundant one to one mapping.

Multiplying a list gives us the same elements over and over. The need for this is rare:

Mutable items

I've used Python for a long time now, and I have seen very few use-cases where I would do the above with mutable objects.

Instead, to get, say, a mutable empty list, set, or dict, you should do something like this:

list_of_lists = [[] for _ in columns]

The underscore is simply a throwaway variable name in this context.

If you only have the number, that would be:

list_of_lists = [[] for _ in range(4)]

The _ is not really special, but your coding environment style checker will probably complain if you don't intend to use the variable and use any other name.


Caveats for using the immutable method with mutable items:

Beware doing this with mutable objects, when you change one of them, they all change because they're all the same object:

foo = [[]] * 4
foo[0].append('x')

foo now returns:

[['x'], ['x'], ['x'], ['x']]

But with immutable objects, you can make it work because you change the reference, not the object:

Alright so after hours of googling and failed attempts at solving this including many of the suggestions above, I found a solution I tried on a whim and worked for me.

Attempt to install the program, then, when it gets "stuck", cancel it, but don't uninstall.

Then, go to the control panel, go to programs, go and attempt to uninstall it, select "Repair" instead of Uninstall.

"Repairing" Visual Studio appears to have completely worked and was very quick, under 5 minutes and everything seems to work fine.

Integer division with remainder in JavaScript?

JavaScript calculates right the floor of negative numbers and the remainder of non-integer numbers, following the mathematical definitions for them.

FLOOR is defined as "the largest integer number smaller than the parameter", thus:

  • positive numbers: FLOOR(X)=integer part of X;
  • negative numbers: FLOOR(X)=integer part of X minus 1 (because it must be SMALLER than the parameter, i.e., more negative!)

REMAINDER is defined as the "left over" of a division (Euclidean arithmetic). When the dividend is not an integer, the quotient is usually also not an integer, i.e., there is no remainder, but if the quotient is forced to be an integer (and that's what happens when someone tries to get the remainder or modulus of a floating-point number), there will be a non-integer "left over", obviously.

JavaScript does calculate everything as expected, so the programmer must be careful to ask the proper questions (and people should be careful to answer what is asked!) Yarin's first question was NOT "what is the integer division of X by Y", but, instead, "the WHOLE number of times a given integer GOES INTO another". For positive numbers, the answer is the same for both, but not for negative numbers, because the integer division (dividend by divisor) will be -1 smaller than the times a number (divisor) "goes into" another (dividend). In other words, FLOOR will return the correct answer for an integer division of a negative number, but Yarin didn't ask that!

gammax answered correctly, that code works as asked by Yarin. On the other hand, Samuel is wrong, he didn't do the maths, I guess, or he would have seen that it does work (also, he didn't say what was the divisor of his example, but I hope it was 3):

Hibernate vs JPA vs JDO - pros and cons of each?

I have recently evaluated and picked a persistence framework for a java project and my findings are as follows:

What I am seeing is that the support in favour of JDO is primarily:

  • you can use non-sql datasources, db4o, hbase, ldap, bigtable, couchdb (plugins for cassandra) etc.
  • you can easily switch from an sql to non-sql datasource and vice-versa.
  • no proxy objects and therefore less pain with regards to hashcode() and equals() implementations
  • more POJO and hence less workarounds required
  • supports more relationship and field types

and the support in favour of JPA is primarily:

  • more popular
  • jdo is dead
  • doesnt use bytecode enhancement

I am seeing a lot of pro-JPA posts from JPA developers who have clearly not used JDO/Datanucleus offering weak arguments for not using JDO.

I am also seeing a lot of posts from JDO users who have migrated to JDO and are much happier as a result.

In respect of JPA being more popular, it seems that this is due in part due to RDBMS vendor support rather than it being technically superior. (Sounds like VHS/Betamax to me).

JDO and it's reference implementation Datanucleus is clearly not dead, as shown by Google's adoption of it for GAE and active development on the source-code (http://sourceforge.net/projects/datanucleus/).

I have seen a number of complaints about JDO due to bytecode enhancement, but no explanation yet for why it is bad.

In fact, in a world that is becoming more and more obsessed by NoSQL solutions, JDO (and the datanucleus implementation) seems a much safer bet.

I have just started using JDO/Datanucleus and have it set up so that I can switch easily between using db4o and mysql. It's helpful for rapid development to use db4o and not have to worry too much about the DB schema and then, once the schema is stabilised to deploy to a database. I also feel confident that later on, I could deploy all/part of my application to GAE or take advantage of distributed storage/map-reduce a la hbase /hadoop / cassandra without too much refactoring.

I found the initial hurdle of getting started with Datanucleus a little tricky - The documentation on the datanucleus website is a little hard to get into - the tutorials are not as easily to follow as I would have liked. Having said that, the more detailed documentation on the API and mapping is very good once you get past the initial learning curve.

The answer is, it depends what you want. I would rather have cleaner code, no-vendor-lock-in, more pojo-orientated, nosql options verses more-popular.

If you want the warm fussy feeling that you are doing the same as the majority of other developers/sheep, choose JPA/hibernate. If you want to lead in your field, test drive JDO/Datanucleus and make your own mind up.

By the power of Google I found a blogpost from 2007 which gives the following regex that matches string which don't contains a certain substring:

^((?!my string).)*$

It works as follows: it looks for zero or more (*) characters (.) which do not begin (?! - negative lookahead) your string and it stipulates that the entire string must be made up of such characters (by using the ^ and $ anchors). Or to put it an other way:

The entire string must be made up of characters which do not begin a given string, which means that the string doesn't contain the given substring.

What is the difference between concurrency and parallelism?

Concurrent programming regards operations that appear to overlap and is primarily concerned with the complexity that arises due to non-deterministic control flow. The quantitative costs associated with concurrent programs are typically both throughput and latency. Concurrent programs are often IO bound but not always, e.g. concurrent garbage collectors are entirely on-CPU. The pedagogical example of a concurrent program is a web crawler. This program initiates requests for web pages and accepts the responses concurrently as the results of the downloads become available, accumulating a set of pages that have already been visited. Control flow is non-deterministic because the responses are not necessarily received in the same order each time the program is run. This characteristic can make it very hard to debug concurrent programs. Some applications are fundamentally concurrent, e.g. web servers must handle client connections concurrently. Erlang is perhaps the most promising upcoming language for highly concurrent programming.

Parallel programming concerns operations that are overlapped for the specific goal of improving throughput. The difficulties of concurrent programming are evaded by making control flow deterministic. Typically, programs spawn sets of child tasks that run in parallel and the parent task only continues once every subtask has finished. This makes parallel programs much easier to debug. The hard part of parallel programming is performance optimization with respect to issues such as granularity and communication. The latter is still an issue in the context of multicores because there is a considerable cost associated with transferring data from one cache to another. Dense matrix-matrix multiply is a pedagogical example of parallel programming and it can be solved efficiently by using Straasen's divide-and-conquer algorithm and attacking the sub-problems in parallel. Cilk is perhaps the most promising language for high-performance parallel programming on shared-memory computers (including multicores).

Your looping structure could be made faster:

This retrieves array.length once, rather than with each iteration. The optimization is made by caching the value.


If you really want to speed it up:

   for (var i=array.length; i--;) {
     count+=array[i];
   }

This is equivalent to a while reverse loop. It caches the value and is compared to 0, thus faster iteration.

Just use DataRow.IsNull. It has overrides accepting a column index, a column name, or a DataColumn object as parameters.

Example using the column index:

And although the function is called IsNull it really compares with DbNull (which is exactly what you need).


What if I want to check for DbNull but I don't have a DataRow? Use Convert.IsDBNull.

Just incase this helps anyone else also, I was signed into the mac app, command line working fine, but because I then turned on 2FA, my commands were returning the error. I had to sign out of the app, then I could use my Personal access token in my commands as per ele's answer here.

While there are many ways to skin this cat, I prefer to wrap such code into reusable extension methods that make it trivial to do going forward. When using extension methods, you can also avoid RegEx as it is slower than a direct character check. I like using the extensions in the Extensions.cs NuGet package. It makes this check as simple as:

  1. Add the https://www.nuget.org/packages/Extensions.cs package to your project.
  2. Add "using Extensions;" to the top of your code.
  3. "smith23".IsAlphaNumeric() will return True whereas "smith 23".IsAlphaNumeric(false) will return False. By default the .IsAlphaNumeric() method ignores spaces, but it can also be overridden as shown above. If you want to allow spaces such that "smith 23".IsAlphaNumeric() will return True, simple default the arg.
  4. Every other check in the rest of the code is simply MyString.IsAlphaNumeric().

There is indeed such a tool, Comeau's C++ compiler. . It will generate C code which you can't manually maintain, but that's no problem. You'll maintain the C++ code, and just convert to C on the fly.

Understanding ASP.NET Eval() and Bind()

The question was answered perfectly by Darin Dimitrov, but since ASP.NET 4.5, there is now a better way to set up these bindings to replace* Eval() and Bind(), taking advantage of the strongly-typed bindings.

*Note: this will only work if you're not using a SqlDataSource or an anonymous object. It requires a Strongly-typed object (from an EF model or any other class).

This code snippet shows how Eval and Bind would be used for a ListView control (InsertItem needs Bind, as explained by Darin Dimitrov above, and ItemTemplate is read-only (hence they're labels), so just needs an Eval):

Your document should not contain two divs with the same id. This is invalid HTML, and as a result, the underlying DOM API does not support it.

From the HTML standard:

id = name [CS] This attribute assigns a name to an element. This name must be unique in a document.

You can either assign different ids to each div and select them both using $('#id1, #id2). Or assign the same class to both elements (.cls for example), and use $('.cls') to select them both.

Explanation:

Use the SQL IN() operator to check if a value exists in a given list.

In general it looks like this:

expr IN (value,...)

We can build an expression to place inside the () from our array. Note that there must be at least one value inside the parenthesis or MySQL will return an error; this equates to making sure that our input array has at least one value. To help prevent against SQL injection attacks, first generate a ? for each input item to create a parameterized query. Here I assume that the array containing your ids is called $ids:

$in = join(',', array_fill(0, count($ids), '?'));

$select = <<<SQL
    SELECT *

Given an input array of three items $select will look like:

Using the IN() operator with strings

Open you solution file in notepad. Make 2 changes

  1. Replace "Format Version 12.00" with "Format Version 11.00" (without quotes.)
  2. Replace "# Visual Studio 2012" with "# Visual Studio 2010" (without quotes.)

How to find the Vagrant IP?

I find that I do need the IP in order to configure /etc/hosts on the host system to point at services on the fresh VM.

Here's a rough version of what I use to fetch the IP. Let Vagrant do its SSH magic and ask the VM for its address; tweak for your needs.

Understanding dispatch_async

All of the DISPATCH_QUEUE_PRIORITY_X queues are concurrent queues (meaning they can execute multiple tasks at once), and are FIFO in the sense that tasks within a given queue will begin executing using "first in, first out" order. This is in comparison to the main queue (from dispatch_get_main_queue()), which is a serial queue (tasks will begin executing and finish executing in the order in which they are received).

So, if you send 1000 dispatch_async() blocks to DISPATCH_QUEUE_PRIORITY_DEFAULT, those tasks will start executing in the order you sent them into the queue. Likewise for the HIGH, LOW, and BACKGROUND queues. Anything you send into any of these queues is executed in the background on alternate threads, away from your main application thread. Therefore, these queues are suitable for executing tasks such as background downloading, compression, computation, etc.

Note that the order of execution is FIFO on a per-queue basis. So if you send 1000 dispatch_async() tasks to the four different concurrent queues, evenly splitting them and sending them to BACKGROUND, LOW, DEFAULT and HIGH in order (ie you schedule the last 250 tasks on the HIGH queue), it's very likely that the first tasks you see starting will be on that HIGH queue as the system has taken your implication that those tasks need to get to the CPU as quickly as possible.

Note also that I say "will begin executing in order", but keep in mind that as concurrent queues things won't necessarily FINISH executing in order depending on length of time for each task.

Basically, if you send those 1000 dispatch_async() blocks to a DEFAULT, HIGH, LOW, or BACKGROUND queue they will all start executing in the order you send them. However, shorter tasks may finish before longer ones. Reasons behind this are if there are available CPU cores or if the current queue tasks are performing computationally non-intensive work (thus making the system think it can dispatch additional tasks in parallel regardless of core count).

The level of concurrency is handled entirely by the system and is based on system load and other internally determined factors. This is the beauty of Grand Central Dispatch (the dispatch_async() system) - you just make your work units as code blocks, set a priority for them (based on the queue you choose) and let the system handle the rest.

So to answer your above question: you are partially correct. You are "asking that code" to perform concurrent tasks on a global concurrent queue at the specified priority level. The code in the block will execute in the background and any additional (similar) code will execute potentially in parallel depending on the system's assessment of available resources.

The "main" queue on the other hand (from dispatch_get_main_queue()) is a serial queue (not concurrent). Tasks sent to the main queue will always execute in order and will always finish in order. These tasks will also be executed on the UI Thread so it's suitable for updating your UI with progress messages, completion notifications, etc.

You can build a Rest API or a restful project using ASP.NET MVC and return data as a JSON. An example controller function would be:

xlsxwriter: is there a way to open an existing worksheet in my workbook?

You cannot append to an existing xlsx file with xlsxwriter.

There is a module called openpyxl which allows you to read and write to preexisting excel file, but I am sure that the method to do so involves reading from the excel file, storing all the information somehow (database or arrays), and then rewriting when you call workbook.close() which will then write all of the information to your xlsx file.

Similarly, you can use a method of your own to "append" to xlsx documents. I recently had to append to a xlsx file because I had a lot of different tests in which I had GPS data coming in to a main worksheet, and then I had to append a new sheet each time a test started as well. The only way I could get around this without openpyxl was to read the excel file with xlrd and then run through the rows and columns...

i.e.

/usr/local/lib/node_modules is the correct directory for globally installed node modules.

/usr/local/share/npm/lib/node_modules makes no sense to me. One issue here is that you're confused because there are two directories called node_modules:

/usr/local/lib/node_modules
/usr/local/lib/node_modules/npm/node_modules

The latter seems to be node modules that came with Node, e.g., lodash, when the former is Node modules that I installed using npm.

You can use the struct's pack:

The ">" is the byte-order (big-endian) and the "I" is the format character. So you can be specific if you want to do something else:

Function to Calculate a CRC16 Checksum

crcany will generate efficient C code for any CRC, and includes a library of over one hundred known CRC definitions.

Efficient CRC code uses tables instead of bit-wise calculations. crcany generates both byte-wise routines and word-wise routines, the latter tuned to the architecture they are generated on. Word-wise is the fastest. Byte-wise is still much faster than bit-wise, but the implementation is more easily portable over architectures.

You do not seem to have a protocol definition with a specific CRC definition that you need to match. In this case, you can pick any 16-bit CRC in the catalog, and you will get good performance.

If you have a relatively low bit error rate, e.g. single digit number of errors per packet, and you want to maximize your error detection performance, you would need to look at the packet size you are applying the CRC to, assuming that that is constant or bounded, and look at the performance of the best polynomials in Philip Koopman's extensive research. The classic CRCs, such as the CCITT/Kermit 16-bit CRC or the X.25 16-bit CRC are not the best performers.

One of the good 16-bit performers in Koopman's tables that is also in the catalog of CRCs used in practice is CRC-16/DNP. It has very good performance detecting up to 6-bit errors in a packet. Following is the code generated by crcany for that CRC definition. This code assumes a little-endian architecture for the word-wise calculation, e.g. Intel x86 and x86-64, and it assumes that uintmax_t is 64 bits. crcany can be used to generate alternative code for big-endian and other word sizes.

No, according to the C++11 N3337 standard draft Annex C 7.1.1:

Change: In C ++, the static or extern specifiers can only be applied to names of objects or functions. Using these specifiers with type declarations is illegal in C ++. In C, these specifiers are ignored when used on type declarations. Example:

Rationale: Storage class specifiers don’t have any meaning when associated with a type. In C ++, class members can be declared with the static storage class specifier. Allowing storage class specifiers on type declarations could render the code confusing for users.

When to use MongoDB or other document oriented database systems?

I would say use an RDBMS if you need complex transactions. Otherwise I would go with MongoDB - more flexible to work with and you know it can scale when you need to. (I'm biased though - I work on the MongoDB project)

Indeed, thanks to the comments to my post here, it looks like sparse directories are the way to go. I believe the following should do it:

svn update --set-depth infinity proj/baz

Alternatively, --depth immediates instead of empty checks out files and directories in trunk/proj without their contents. That way you can see which directories exist in the repository.


As mentioned in @zigdon's answer, you can also do a non-recursive checkout. This is an older and less flexible way to achieve a similar effect:

The difference between .dylib and .so on mac os x is how they are compiled. For .so files you use -shared and for .dylib you use -dynamiclib. The reason the two are equivalent on Mac OS X is for backwards compatibility with other UNIX OS programs that compile to the .so file type.

Compilation notes: whether you compile a .so file or a .dylib file you need to insert the correct path into the dynamic library during the linking step. You do this by adding -install_name and the file path to the linking command. If you dont do this you will run into the problem seen in this post: Mac Dynamic Library Craziness (May be Fortran Only).

Though this is same as toString() it does a null check on the charSequence before actually calling toString.

I understand that this is fairly old question and has some pretty good answers. But, here is my two cents for the sake of completeness.

As per the official documentation, there are four ways, you can allow complete access for robots to access your site.

Clean:

Specify a global matcher with a disallow segment as mentioned by @unor. So your /robots.txt looks like this.

Disallow:

The hack:

Create a /robots.txt file with no content in it. Which will default to allow all for all type of Bots.

I don't care way:

Do not create a /robots.txt altogether. Which should yield the exact same results as the above two.

From the robots documentation for meta tags, You can use the following meta tag on all your pages on your site to let the Bots know that these pages are not supposed to be indexed.

Using Encoding.Unicode won't accurately decode an ANSI file in the same way that a JPEG decoder won't understand a GIF file.

I'm surprised that Encoding.Default didn't work for the ANSI file if it really was ANSI - if you ever find out exactly which code page Notepad was using, you could use Encoding.GetEncoding(int).

In general, where possible I'd recommend using UTF-8.

What's the first part of your Subversion repository URL?

  • If your URL looks like: http://subversion/repos/, then you're probably going over Port 80.
  • If your URL looks like: https://subversion/repos/, then you're probably going over Port 443.
  • If your URL looks like: svn://subversion/, then you're probably going over Port 3690.
  • If your URL looks like: svn+ssh://subversion/repos/, then you're probably going over Port 22.
  • If your URL contains a port number like: http://subversion/repos:8080, then you're using that port.

I can't guarantee the first four since it's possible to reconfigure everything to use different ports, of if you go through a proxy of some sort.

If you're using a VPN, you may have to configure your VPN client to reroute these to their correct ports. A lot of places don't configure their correctly VPNs to do this type of proxying. It's either because they have some sort of anal-retentive IT person who's being overly security conscious, or because they simply don't know any better. Even worse, they'll give you a client where this stuff can't be reconfigured.

The only way around that is to log into a local machine over the VPN, and then do everything from that system.
