Find all files in a folder

First off; best practice would be to get the users Desktop folder with

string path = Environment.GetFolderPath(Environment.SpecialFolder.Desktop);

Then you can find all the files with something like

string[] files = Directory.GetFiles(path, "*.txt", SearchOption.AllDirectories);

Note that with the above line you will find all files with a .txt extension in the Desktop folder of the logged in user AND all subfolders.

Then you could copy or move the files by enumerating the above collection like

// For copying...
foreach (string s in files)
{
   File.Copy(s, "C:\newFolder\newFilename.txt");
}

// ... Or for moving
foreach (string s in files)
{
   File.Move(s, "C:\newFolder\newFilename.txt");
}

Please note that you will have to include the filename in your Copy() (or Move()) operation. So you would have to find a way to determine the filename of at least the extension you are dealing with and not name all the files the same like what would happen in the above example.

With that in mind you could also check out the DirectoryInfo and FileInfo classes. These work in similair ways, but you can get information about your path-/filenames, extensions, etc. more easily

How to make sure that a certain Port is not occupied by any other process

netstat -ano|find ":port_no" will give you the list.
a: Displays all connections and listening ports.
n: Displays addresses and port numbers in numerical form.
o: Displays the owning process ID associated with each connection .

example : netstat -ano | find ":1900" This gives you the result like this.

UDP    107.109.121.196:1900   *:*                                    1324
UDP    127.0.0.1:1900         *:*                                    1324
UDP    [::1]:1900             *:*                                    1324
UDP    [fe80::8db8:d9cc:12a8:2262%13]:1900  *:*                      1324

How to go from Blob to ArrayBuffer

You can use FileReader to read the Blob as an ArrayBuffer.

Here's a short example:

var arrayBuffer;
var fileReader = new FileReader();
fileReader.onload = function(event) {
    arrayBuffer = event.target.result;
};
fileReader.readAsArrayBuffer(blob);

Here's a longer example:

// ArrayBuffer -> Blob
var uint8Array  = new Uint8Array([1, 2, 3]);
var arrayBuffer = uint8Array.buffer;
var blob        = new Blob([arrayBuffer]);

// Blob -> ArrayBuffer
var uint8ArrayNew  = null;
var arrayBufferNew = null;
var fileReader     = new FileReader();
fileReader.onload  = function(event) {
    arrayBufferNew = event.target.result;
    uint8ArrayNew  = new Uint8Array(arrayBufferNew);

    // warn if read values are not the same as the original values
    // arrayEqual from: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3115982/how-to-check-javascript-array-equals
    function arrayEqual(a, b) { return !(a<b || b<a); };
    if (arrayBufferNew.byteLength !== arrayBuffer.byteLength) // should be 3
        console.warn("ArrayBuffer byteLength does not match");
    if (arrayEqual(uint8ArrayNew, uint8Array) !== true) // should be [1,2,3]
        console.warn("Uint8Array does not match");
};
fileReader.readAsArrayBuffer(blob);
fileReader.result; // also accessible this way once the blob has been read

This was tested out in the console of Chrome 27—69, Firefox 20—60, and Safari 6—11.

Here's also a live demonstration which you can play with: https://jsfiddle.net/potatosalad/FbaM6/

Update 2018-06-23: Thanks to Klaus Klein for the tip about event.target.result versus this.result

Chrome extension: accessing localStorage in content script

Update 2016:

Google Chrome released the storage API: http://developer.chrome.com/extensions/storage.html

It is pretty easy to use like the other Chrome APIs and you can use it from any page context within Chrome.

    // Save it using the Chrome extension storage API.
    chrome.storage.sync.set({'foo': 'hello', 'bar': 'hi'}, function() {
      console.log('Settings saved');
    });

    // Read it using the storage API
    chrome.storage.sync.get(['foo', 'bar'], function(items) {
      message('Settings retrieved', items);
    });

To use it, make sure you define it in the manifest:

    "permissions": [
      "storage"
    ],

There are methods to "remove", "clear", "getBytesInUse", and an event listener to listen for changed storage "onChanged"

Using native localStorage (old reply from 2011)

Content scripts run in the context of webpages, not extension pages. Therefore, if you're accessing localStorage from your contentscript, it will be the storage from that webpage, not the extension page storage.

Now, to let your content script to read your extension storage (where you set them from your options page), you need to use extension message passing.

The first thing you do is tell your content script to send a request to your extension to fetch some data, and that data can be your extension localStorage:

contentscript.js

chrome.runtime.sendMessage({method: "getStatus"}, function(response) {
  console.log(response.status);
});

background.js

chrome.runtime.onMessage.addListener(function(request, sender, sendResponse) {
    if (request.method == "getStatus")
      sendResponse({status: localStorage['status']});
    else
      sendResponse({}); // snub them.
});

You can do an API around that to get generic localStorage data to your content script, or perhaps, get the whole localStorage array.

I hope that helped solve your problem.

To be fancy and generic ...

contentscript.js

chrome.runtime.sendMessage({method: "getLocalStorage", key: "status"}, function(response) {
  console.log(response.data);
});

background.js

chrome.runtime.onMessage.addListener(function(request, sender, sendResponse) {
    if (request.method == "getLocalStorage")
      sendResponse({data: localStorage[request.key]});
    else
      sendResponse({}); // snub them.
});

Ruby Hash to array of values

I would use:

hash.map { |key, value| value }

How do I get console input in javascript?

You can try something like process.argv, that is if you are using node.js to run the program.
console.log(process.argv) => Would print an array containing

[
  '/usr/bin/node',
  '/home/user/path/filename.js',
  'your_input'
]

You get the user provided input via array index, i.e., console.log(process.argv[3]) This should provide you with the input which you can store.

Example:

var somevariable = process.argv[3]; // input one
var somevariable2 = process.argv[4]; // input two

console.log(somevariable);
console.log(somevariable2);

If you are building a command-line program then the npm package yargs would be really helpful.

Bash array with spaces in elements

I think the issue might be partly with how you're accessing the elements. If I do a simple for elem in $FILES, I experience the same issue as you. However, if I access the array through its indices, like so, it works if I add the elements either numerically or with escapes:

for ((i = 0; i < ${#FILES[@]}; i++))
do
    echo "${FILES[$i]}"
done

Any of these declarations of $FILES should work:

FILES=(2011-09-04\ 21.43.02.jpg
2011-09-05\ 10.23.14.jpg
2011-09-09\ 12.31.16.jpg
2011-09-11\ 08.43.12.jpg)

or

or

Abstract Class vs Interface in C++

interface were primarily made popular by Java.
Below are the nature of interface and its C++ equivalents:

  1. interface can contain only body-less abstract methods; C++ equivalent is pure virtual methods, though they can/cannot have body
  2. interface can contain only static final data members; C++ equivalent is static const data members which are compile time constants
  3. Multiple interface can be implemented by a Java class, this facility is needed because a Java class can inherit only 1 class; C++ supports multiple inheritance straight away with help of virtual keyword when needed

Because of point 3 interface concept was never formally introduced in C++. Still one can have a flexibility to do that.

Besides this you can refer Bjarne's FAQ on this topic.

Get local IP address in Node.js

Here is a variation of the previous examples. It takes care to filter out VMware interfaces, etc. If you don't pass an index it returns all addresses. Otherwise, you may want to set it default to 0 and then just pass null to get all, but you'll sort that out. You could also pass in another argument for the regex filter if so inclined to add.

function getAddress(idx) {

    var addresses = [],
        interfaces = os.networkInterfaces(),
        name, ifaces, iface;

    for (name in interfaces) {
        if(interfaces.hasOwnProperty(name)){
            ifaces = interfaces[name];
            if(!/(loopback|vmware|internal)/gi.test(name)){
                for (var i = 0; i < ifaces.length; i++) {
                    iface = ifaces[i];
                    if (iface.family === 'IPv4' &&  !iface.internal && iface.address !== '127.0.0.1') {
                        addresses.push(iface.address);
                    }
                }
            }
        }
    }

    // If an index is passed only return it.
    if(idx >= 0)
        return addresses[idx];
    return addresses;
}

Mismatched anonymous define() module

Per the docs:

If you manually code a script tag in HTML to load a script with an anonymous define() call, this error can occur.

Also seen if you manually code a script tag in HTML to load a script that has a few named modules, but then try to load an anonymous module that ends up having the same name as one of the named modules in the script loaded by the manually coded script tag.

Finally, if you use the loader plugins or anonymous modules (modules that call define() with no string ID) but do not use the RequireJS optimizer to combine files together, this error can occur. The optimizer knows how to name anonymous modules correctly so that they can be combined with other modules in an optimized file.

To avoid the error:

  • Be sure to load all scripts that call define() via the RequireJS API. Do not manually code script tags in HTML to load scripts that have define() calls in them.

  • If you manually code an HTML script tag, be sure it only includes named modules, and that an anonymous module that will have the same name as one of the modules in that file is not loaded.

  • If the problem is the use of loader plugins or anonymous modules but the RequireJS optimizer is not used for file bundling, use the RequireJS optimizer.

How to draw checkbox or tick mark in GitHub Markdown table?

Try adding a - before the [] or [x]. That's an - followed by a blank space .

Below is an example from Github blog.

- [ ] Mercury
- [x] Venus
- [x] Earth (Orbit/Moon)
- [x] Mars
- [ ] Jupiter
- [ ] Saturn
- [ ] Uranus
- [ ] Neptune
- [ ] Comet Haley

It appears like below:

Here's how one could do the same in a table:

| Task           | Time required | Assigned to   | Current Status | Finished |
|----------------|---------------|---------------|----------------|-----------|
| Calendar Cache | > 5 hours  |  | in progress | - [x] ok?
| Object Cache   | > 5 hours  |  | in progress | [x] item1<br/>[ ] item2
| Object Cache   | > 5 hours  |  | in progress | <ul><li>- [x] item1</li><li>- [ ] item2</li></ul>
| Object Cache   | > 5 hours  |  | in progress | <ul><li>[x] item1</li><li>[ ] item2</li></ul>

- [x] works
- [x] works too

How can I revert a single file to a previous version?

Let's start with a qualitative description of what we want to do (much of this is said in Ben Straub's answer). We've made some number of commits, five of which changed a given file, and we want to revert the file to one of the previous versions. First of all, git doesn't keep version numbers for individual files. It just tracks content - a commit is essentially a snapshot of the work tree, along with some metadata (e.g. commit message). So, we have to know which commit has the version of the file we want. Once we know that, we'll need to make a new commit reverting the file to that state. (We can't just muck around with history, because we've already pushed this content, and editing history messes with everyone else.)

So let's start with finding the right commit. You can see the commits which have made modifications to given file(s) very easily:

git log path/to/file

If your commit messages aren't good enough, and you need to see what was done to the file in each commit, use the -p/--patch option:

git log -p path/to/file

Or, if you prefer the graphical view of gitk

gitk path/to/file

You can also do this once you've started gitk through the view menu; one of the options for a view is a list of paths to include.

Either way, you'll be able to find the SHA1 (hash) of the commit with the version of the file you want. Now, all you have to do is this:

# get the version of the file from the given commit
git checkout <commit> path/to/file
# and commit this modification
git commit

(The checkout command first reads the file into the index, then copies it into the work tree, so there's no need to use git add to add it to the index in preparation for committing.)

If your file may not have a simple history (e.g. renames and copies), see VonC's excellent comment. git can be directed to search more carefully for such things, at the expense of speed. If you're confident the history's simple, you needn't bother.

Take a list of numbers and return the average

You can use python's built-in function sum

  • sum will return the sum of all the values
  • len to get list's length

code:

>>> list = [1,2,3,4]
>>> sum(list)
>>> 10
>>> len(list)
>>> 4
>>> avg = float(sum(list))/len(list)
>>> 2.5
>>>"""In pyton3 don't want to specify float"""
>>> 10 / 4
>>> 2.5

Use float because when using python 2.x, because:

  • int/int returns int value (i.e. 2)
  • float/int returns float value (i.e. 2.5)

While in Python 3.x:

  • int/int return float
  • int//int return int

How to retrieve GET parameters from JavaScript

Here is another example based on Kat's and Bakudan's examples, but making it a just a bit more generic.

function getParams ()

    var tmp = [];

    location.search
        .substr (1)
        .split ("&")
        .forEach (function (item)
        {
            tmp = item.split ("=");
            result [tmp[0]] = decodeURIComponent (tmp[1]);
        });

    return result;
}

location.getParams = getParams;

console.log (location.getParams());
console.log (location.getParams()["returnurl"]);

Find where python is installed (if it isn't default dir)

  1. First search for PYTHON IDLE from search bar
  2. Open the IDLE and use below commands.

    import sys print(sys.path)

  3. It will give you the path where the python.exe is installed. For eg: C:\Users\\...\python.exe

  4. Add the same path to system environment variable.

Multiple markers Google Map API v3 from array of addresses and avoid OVER_QUERY_LIMIT while geocoding on pageLoad

Here is my solution:

dependencies: Gmaps.js, jQuery

        lost_addresses = [];

Closing IIS Express

By default Visual Studio places the IISExpress icon in your system tray at the lower right hand side of your screen, by the clock. You can right click it and choose exit. If you don't see the icon, try clicking the small arrow to view the full list of icons in the system tray.

then right click and choose Exit:

Changing the Port

Another option is to change the port by modifying the project properties. You'll need to do this for each web project in your solution.

  1. Visual Studio > Solution Explorer
  2. Right click the web project and choose Properties
  3. Go to the Web tab
  4. In the 'Servers' section, change the port in the Project URL box
  5. Repeat for each web project in the solution

Changing the IIS Express port

If All Else Fails

If that doesn't work, you can try to bring up Task Manager and close the IIS Express System Tray (32 bit) process and IIS Express Worker Process (32 bit).

Terminating the IIS Express Worker Thread process

If it still doesn't work, as ni5ni6 pointed out, there is a 'Web Deployment Agent Service' running on the port 80. Use this article to track down which process uses it, and turn it off:

Build and Install unsigned apk on device without the development server?

You need to manually create the bundle for a debug build.

Bundle debug build:

#React-Native 0.59
react-native bundle --dev false --platform android --entry-file index.js --bundle-output ./android/app/src/main/assets/index.android.bundle --assets-dest ./android/app/src/main/res

#React-Native 0.49.0+
react-native bundle --dev false --platform android --entry-file index.js --bundle-output ./android/app/build/intermediates/assets/debug/index.android.bundle --assets-dest ./android/app/build/intermediates/res/merged/debug

#React-Native 0-0.49.0
react-native bundle --dev false --platform android --entry-file index.android.js --bundle-output ./android/app/build/intermediates/assets/debug/index.android.bundle --assets-dest ./android/app/build/intermediates/res/merged/debug

Then to build the APK's after bundling:

$ cd android
#Create debug build:
$ ./gradlew assembleDebug
#Create release build:
$ ./gradlew assembleRelease #Generated `apk` will be located at `android/app/build/outputs/apk`

P.S. Another approach might be to modify gradle scripts.

Encapsulation vs Abstraction?

in a simple sentence, I cay say: The essence of abstraction is to extract essential properties while omitting inessential details. But why should we omit inessential details? The key motivator is preventing the risk of change. You might consider abstraction is same as encapsulation. But encapsulation means the act of enclosing one or more items within a container, not hiding details. If you make the argument that "everything that was encapsulated was also hidden." This is obviously not true. For example, even though information may be encapsulated within record structures and arrays, this information is usually not hidden (unless hidden via some other mechanism).

T-SQL get SELECTed value of stored procedure

there are three ways you can use: the RETURN value, and OUTPUT parameter and a result set

ALSO, watch out if you use the pattern: SELECT @Variable=column FROM table ...

if there are multiple rows returned from the query, your @Variable will only contain the value from the last row returned by the query.

RETURN VALUE
since your query returns an int field, at least based on how you named it. you can use this trick:

CREATE PROCEDURE GetMyInt
( @Param int)
AS
DECLARE @ReturnValue int

SELECT @ReturnValue=MyIntField FROM MyTable WHERE MyPrimaryKeyField = @Param
RETURN @ReturnValue
GO

and now call your procedure like:

DECLARE @SelectedValue int
       ,@Param         int
SET @Param=1
EXEC @SelectedValue = GetMyInt @Param
PRINT @SelectedValue

this will only work for INTs, because RETURN can only return a single int value and nulls are converted to a zero.

OUTPUT PARAMETER
you can use an output parameter:

CREATE PROCEDURE GetMyInt
( @Param     int
 ,@OutValue  int OUTPUT)
AS
SELECT @OutValue=MyIntField FROM MyTable WHERE MyPrimaryKeyField = @Param
RETURN 0
GO

and now call your procedure like:

DECLARE @SelectedValue int
       ,@Param         int
SET @Param=1
EXEC GetMyInt @Param, @SelectedValue OUTPUT
PRINT @SelectedValue

Output parameters can only return one value, but can be any data type

RESULT SET for a result set make the procedure like:

CREATE PROCEDURE GetMyInt
( @Param     int)
AS
SELECT MyIntField FROM MyTable WHERE MyPrimaryKeyField = @Param
RETURN 0
GO

use it like:

DECLARE @ResultSet table (SelectedValue int)
DECLARE @Param int
SET @Param=1
INSERT INTO @ResultSet (SelectedValue)
    EXEC GetMyInt @Param
SELECT * FROM @ResultSet

result sets can have many rows and many columns of any data type

What values can I pass to the event attribute of the f:ajax tag?

I just input some value that I knew was invalid and here is the output:

'whatToInput' is not a supported event for HtmlPanelGrid. Please specify one of these supported event names: click, dblclick, keydown, keypress, keyup, mousedown, mousemove, mouseout, mouseover, mouseup.

So values you can pass to event are

  • click
  • dblclick
  • keydown
  • mousedown
  • mousemove
  • mouseover
  • mouseup

SQLite UPSERT / UPDATE OR INSERT

Option 1: Insert -> Update

If you like to avoid both changes()=0 and INSERT OR IGNORE even if you cannot afford deleting the row - You can use this logic;

First, insert (if not exists) and then update by filtering with the unique key.

Example

-- Table structure
CREATE TABLE players (
    id        INTEGER       PRIMARY KEY AUTOINCREMENT,
    user_name VARCHAR (255) NOT NULL
                            UNIQUE,
    age       INTEGER       NOT NULL
);

-- Insert if NOT exists
INSERT INTO players (user_name, age)
SELECT 'johnny', 20
WHERE NOT EXISTS (SELECT 1 FROM players WHERE user_name='johnny' AND age=20);

-- Update (will affect row, only if found)
-- no point to update user_name to 'johnny' since it's unique, and we filter by it as well
UPDATE players
SET age=20
WHERE user_name='johnny';

Regarding Triggers

Notice: I haven't tested it to see the which triggers are being called, but I assume the following:

if row does not exists

  • BEFORE INSERT
  • INSERT using INSTEAD OF
  • AFTER INSERT
  • BEFORE UPDATE
  • UPDATE using INSTEAD OF
  • AFTER UPDATE

if row does exists

  • BEFORE UPDATE
  • UPDATE using INSTEAD OF
  • AFTER UPDATE

Option 2: Insert or replace - keep your own ID

in this way you can have a single SQL command

-- Table structure
CREATE TABLE players (
    id        INTEGER       PRIMARY KEY AUTOINCREMENT,
    user_name VARCHAR (255) NOT NULL
                            UNIQUE,
    age       INTEGER       NOT NULL
);

-- Single command to insert or update
INSERT OR REPLACE INTO players
(id, user_name, age)
VALUES ((SELECT id from players WHERE user_name='johnny' AND age=20),
        'johnny',
        20);

Edit: added option 2.

Is it ok to run docker from inside docker?

I answered a similar question before on how to run a Docker container inside Docker.

To run docker inside docker is definitely possible. The main thing is that you run the outer container with extra privileges (starting with --privileged=true) and then install docker in that container.

Check this blog post for more info: Docker-in-Docker.

One potential use case for this is described in this entry. The blog describes how to build docker containers within a Jenkins docker container.

However, Docker inside Docker it is not the recommended approach to solve this type of problems. Instead, the recommended approach is to create "sibling" containers as described in this post

So, running Docker inside Docker was by many considered as a good type of solution for this type of problems. Now, the trend is to use "sibling" containers instead. See the answer by @predmijat on this page for more info.

Use jQuery to hide a DIV when the user clicks outside of it

According to the docs, .blur() works for more than the <input> tag. For example:

$('.form_wrapper').blur(function(){
   $(this).hide();
});

How many concurrent requests does a single Flask process receive?

Currently there is a far simpler solution than the ones already provided. When running your application you just have to pass along the threaded=True parameter to the app.run() call, like:

app.run(host="your.host", port=4321, threaded=True)

Another option as per what we can see in the werkzeug docs, is to use the processes parameter, which receives a number > 1 indicating the maximum number of concurrent processes to handle:

  • threaded – should the process handle each request in a separate thread?
  • processes – if greater than 1 then handle each request in a new process up to this maximum number of concurrent processes.

Something like:

app.run(host="your.host", port=4321, processes=3) #up to 3 processes

More info on the run() method here, and the blog post that led me to find the solution and api references.

Note: on the Flask docs on the run() methods it's indicated that using it in a Production Environment is discouraged because (quote): "While lightweight and easy to use, Flask’s built-in server is not suitable for production as it doesn’t scale well."

However, they do point to their Deployment Options page for the recommended ways to do this when going for production.

Android requires compiler compliance level 5.0 or 6.0. Found '1.7' instead. Please use Android Tools > Fix Project Properties

That isn't the problem, Jack. Android SDK isn't x64, but works ok with x64 jvm (and x64 eclipse IDE).

As helios said, you must set project compatibility to Java 5.0 or Java 6.0.

To do that, 2 options:

  1. Right-click on your project and select "Android Tools -> Fix Project Properties" (if this din't work, try second option)
  2. Right-click on your project and select "Properties -> Java Compiler", check "Enable project specific settings" and select 1.5 or 1.6 from "Compiler compliance settings" select box.

Java correct way convert/cast object to Double

You can't cast an object to a Double if the object is not a Double.

Check out the API.

particularly note

valueOf(double d);

and

valueOf(String s);

Those methods give you a way of getting a Double instance from a String or double primitive. (Also not the constructors; read the documentation to see how they work) The object you are trying to convert naturally has to give you something that can be transformed into a double.

Finally, keep in mind that Double instances are immutable -- once created you can't change them.

How to print time in format: 2009-08-10 18:17:54.811

The above answers do not fully answer the question (specifically the millisec part). My solution to this is to use gettimeofday before strftime. Note the care to avoid rounding millisec to "1000". This is based on Hamid Nazari's answer.

#include <stdio.h>
#include <sys/time.h>
#include <time.h>
#include <math.h>

int main() {
  char buffer[26];
  int millisec;
  struct tm* tm_info;
  struct timeval tv;

  gettimeofday(&tv, NULL);

  millisec = lrint(tv.tv_usec/1000.0); // Round to nearest millisec
  if (millisec>=1000) { // Allow for rounding up to nearest second
    millisec -=1000;
    tv.tv_sec++;
  }

  tm_info = localtime(&tv.tv_sec);

  strftime(buffer, 26, "%Y:%m:%d %H:%M:%S", tm_info);
  printf("%s.%03d\n", buffer, millisec);

  return 0;
}

Overloading operators in typedef structs (c++)

Border around each cell in a range

You only need a single line of code to set the border around every cell in the range:

Range("A1:F20").Borders.LineStyle = xlContinuous

It's also easy to apply multiple effects to the border around each cell.

For example:

Sub RedOutlineCells()
    Dim rng As Range

    Set rng = Range("A1:F20")

    With rng.Borders
        .LineStyle = xlContinuous
        .Color = vbRed
        .Weight = xlThin
    End With
End Sub

How do I get video durations with YouTube API version 3?

I got it!

$dur = file_get_contents("https://www.googleapis.com/youtube/v3/videos?part=contentDetails&id=$vId&key=dldfsd981asGhkxHxFf6JqyNrTqIeJ9sjMKFcX4");

$duration = json_decode($dur, true);
foreach ($duration['items'] as $vidTime) {
    $vTime= $vidTime['contentDetails']['duration'];
}

There it returns the time for YouTube API version 3 (the key is made up by the way ;). I used $vId that I had gotten off of the returned list of the videos from the channel I am showing the videos from...

It works. Google REALLY needs to include the duration in the snippet so you can get it all with one call instead of two... it's on their 'wontfix' list.

What is the difference between for and foreach?

The major difference between the for and foreach loop in c# we understand by its working:

The for loop:

  1. The for loop's variable always be integer only.
  2. The For Loop executes the statement or block of statements repeatedly until specified expression evaluates to false.
  3. In for loop we have to specify the loop's boundary ( maximum or minimum).-------->We can say this is the limitation of the for loop.

The foreach loop:

  1. In the case of the foreach loop the variable of the loop while be same as the type of values under the array.

  2. The Foreach statement repeats a group of embedded statements for each element in an array or an object collection.

  3. In foreach loop, You do not need to specify the loop bounds minimum or maximum.---> here we can say that this is the advantage of the for each loop.

        print "00 : ",n

What is the difference between max-device-width and max-width for mobile web?

the difference is that max-device-width is all screen's width and max-width means the space used by the browser to show the pages. But another important difference is the support of android browsers, in fact if u're going to use max-device-width this will work only in Opera, instead I'm sure that max-width will work for every kind of mobile browser (I had test it in Chrome, firefox and opera for ANDROID).

Check if a given time lies between two times regardless of date

tl;dr

20:11:13 < 01:00:00 < 14:49:00

LocalTime target = LocalTime.parse( "01:00:00" ) ;
Boolean targetInZone = (
    target.isAfter( LocalTime.parse( "20:11:13" ) )
    &&
    target.isBefore( LocalTime.parse( "14:49:00" ) )
) ;

java.time.LocalTime

The java.time classes include LocalTime to represent a time-of-day only without a date and without a time zone.

So what I want is, 20:11:13 < 01:00:00 < 14:49:00.

First we define the boundaries. Your input strings happen to comply with standard ISO 8601 formats. The java.time classes use ISO 8601 formats by default, so no need to specify a formatting pattern.

LocalTime start = LocalTime.parse( "20:11:13" );
LocalTime stop = LocalTime.parse( "14:49:00" );

And define our test case, the target 01:00:00.

LocalTime target = LocalTime.parse( "01:00:00" );

Now we are set up to compare these LocalTime objects. We want to see if the target is after the later time but before the earlier time. That means middle of the night in this case, between approximately 8 PM and 3 AM the next morning.

Boolean isTargetAfterStartAndBeforeStop = ( target.isAfter( start ) && target.isBefore( stop ) ) ;

That test can be more simply stated as “not between 3 AM and 8 PM”. We could then generalize to any pair of LocalTime objects where we test for between if the start comes before the stop with a 24-hour clock, and not between if start comes after the stop (as in the case of this Question).

Further more, spans of time are usually handled with the Half-Open approach where the beginning is inclusive while the ending is exclusive. So a "between" comparison, strictly speaking, would be “is the target equal to or later than start AND the target is before stop”, or more simply, “is target not before start AND before stop”.

Boolean isBetweenStartAndStopStrictlySpeaking =
    ( ( ! target.isBefore( start ) && target.isBefore( stop ) ) ;

If the start is after the stop, within a 24-hour clock, then assume we want the logic suggested in the Question (is after 8 PM but before 3 AM).

if( start.isAfter( stop ) ) {
    return ! isBetweenStartAndStopStrictlySpeaking ;
} else {
    return isBetweenStartAndStopStrictlySpeaking ;
}

About java.time

The java.time framework is built into Java 8 and later. These classes supplant the troublesome old legacy date-time classes such as java.util.Date, Calendar, & SimpleDateFormat.

The Joda-Time project, now in maintenance mode, advises migration to the java.time classes.

To learn more, see the Oracle Tutorial. And search Stack Overflow for many examples and explanations. Specification is JSR 310.

You may exchange java.time objects directly with your database. Use a JDBC driver compliant with JDBC 4.2 or later. No need for strings, no need for java.sql.* classes.

Where to obtain the java.time classes?

The ThreeTen-Extra project extends java.time with additional classes. This project is a proving ground for possible future additions to java.time. You may find some useful classes here such as Interval, YearWeek, YearQuarter, and more.

POST request not allowed - 405 Not Allowed - nginx, even with headers included

In my case it was POST submission of a json to be processed and get a return value. I cross checked logs of my app server with and without nginx. What i got was my location was not getting appended to proxy_pass url and the version of HTTP protocol version is different.

  • Without nginx: "POST /xxQuery HTTP/1.1" 200 -
  • With nginx: "POST / HTTP/1.0" 405 -

My earlier location block was

location /xxQuery {
    proxy_method POST;
    proxy_pass http://127.0.0.1:xx00/;
    client_max_body_size 10M;
}

I changed it to

location /xxQuery {
    proxy_method POST;
    proxy_http_version 1.1;
    proxy_pass http://127.0.0.1:xx00/xxQuery;
    client_max_body_size 10M;
}

It worked.

Is there a Subversion command to reset the working copy?

Delete everything inside your local copy using:

rm -r your_local_svn_dir_path/*

And the revert everything recursively using the below command.

svn revert -R your_local_svn_dir_path

This is way faster than deleting the entire directory and then taking a fresh checkout, because the files are being restored from you local SVN meta data. It doesn't even need a network connection.

Using Git, show all commits that are in one branch, but not the other(s)

Start to Create a Pull Request via the git hosting service you're using. If the branch has been fully merged into the base branch, you'll be unable to create the new PR.

You don't need to actually make the pull request, just use the first step where you pick branches.

For example, on GitHub:

There isn't anything to compare

Can't create a PR for branches that have been merged.

This doesn't use git on the command line, but I often find it's helpful to use the other tools at your disposal with a clear mental model rather than attempt to remember another arcane git command.

Ship an application with a database

My solution neither uses any third-party library nor forces you to call custom methods on SQLiteOpenHelper subclass to initialize the database on creation. It also takes care of database upgrades as well. All that needs to be done is to subclass SQLiteOpenHelper.

Prerequisite:

  1. The database that you wish to ship with the app. It should contain a 1x1 table named android_metadata with an attribute locale having the value en_US in addition to the tables unique to your app.

Subclassing SQLiteOpenHelper:

  1. Subclass SQLiteOpenHelper.
  2. Create a private method within the SQLiteOpenHelper subclass. This method contains the logic to copy database contents from the database file in the 'assets' folder to the database created in the application package context.
  3. Override onCreate, onUpgrade and onOpen methods of SQLiteOpenHelper.

Enough said. Here goes the SQLiteOpenHelper subclass:

public class PlanDetailsSQLiteOpenHelper extends SQLiteOpenHelper {
    private static final String TAG = "SQLiteOpenHelper";

    private final Context context;
    private static final int DATABASE_VERSION = 1;
    private static final String DATABASE_NAME = "my_custom_db";

    private boolean createDb = false, upgradeDb = false;

    public PlanDetailsSQLiteOpenHelper(Context context) {
        super(context, DATABASE_NAME, null, DATABASE_VERSION);
        this.context = context;
    }

    /**
     * Copy packaged database from assets folder to the database created in the
     * application package context.
     *
     * @param db
     * The target database in the application package context.
     */
    private void copyDatabaseFromAssets(SQLiteDatabase db) {
        Log.i(TAG, "copyDatabase");
        InputStream myInput = null;
        OutputStream myOutput = null;
        try {
            // Open db packaged as asset as the input stream
            myInput = context.getAssets().open("path/to/shipped/db/file");

            // Open the db in the application package context:
            myOutput = new FileOutputStream(db.getPath());

            // Transfer db file contents:
            byte[] buffer = new byte[1024];
            int length;
            while ((length = myInput.read(buffer)) > 0) {
                myOutput.write(buffer, 0, length);
            }
            myOutput.flush();

            // Set the version of the copied database to the current
            // version:
            SQLiteDatabase copiedDb = context.openOrCreateDatabase(
                DATABASE_NAME, 0, null);
            copiedDb.execSQL("PRAGMA user_version = " + DATABASE_VERSION);
            copiedDb.close();

        } catch (IOException e) {
            e.printStackTrace();
            throw new Error(TAG + " Error copying database");
        } finally {
            // Close the streams
            try {
                if (myOutput != null) {
                    myOutput.close();
                }
                if (myInput != null) {
                    myInput.close();
                }
            } catch (IOException e) {
                e.printStackTrace();
                throw new Error(TAG + " Error closing streams");
            }
        }
    }

    @Override
    public void onCreate(SQLiteDatabase db) {
        Log.i(TAG, "onCreate db");
        createDb = true;
    }

    @Override
    public void onUpgrade(SQLiteDatabase db, int oldVersion, int newVersion) {
        Log.i(TAG, "onUpgrade db");
        upgradeDb = true;
    }

    @Override
    public void onOpen(SQLiteDatabase db) {
        Log.i(TAG, "onOpen db");
        if (createDb) {// The db in the application package
            // context is being created.
            // So copy the contents from the db
            // file packaged in the assets
            // folder:
            createDb = false;
            copyDatabaseFromAssets(db);

        }
        if (upgradeDb) {// The db in the application package
            // context is being upgraded from a lower to a higher version.
            upgradeDb = false;
            // Your db upgrade logic here:
        }
    }
}

Finally, to get a database connection, just call getReadableDatabase() or getWritableDatabase() on the SQLiteOpenHelper subclass and it will take care of creating a db, copying db contents from the specified file in the 'assets' folder, if the database does not exist.

In short, you can use the SQLiteOpenHelper subclass to access the db shipped in the assets folder just as you would use for a database that is initialized using SQL queries in the onCreate() method.

RegEx to parse or validate Base64 data

From the RFC 4648:

Base encoding of data is used in many situations to store or transfer data in environments that, perhaps for legacy reasons, are restricted to US-ASCII data.

So it depends on the purpose of usage of the encoded data if the data should be considered as dangerous.

But if you’re just looking for a regular expression to match Base64 encoded words, you can use the following:

^(?:[A-Za-z0-9+/]{4})*(?:[A-Za-z0-9+/]{2}==|[A-Za-z0-9+/]{3}=)?$

Git Pull vs Git Rebase

git-pull - Fetch from and integrate with another repository or a local branch GIT PULL

Basically you are pulling remote branch to your local, example:

git pull origin master

Will pull master branch into your local repository

git-rebase - Forward-port local commits to the updated upstream head GIT REBASE

This one is putting your local changes on top of changes done remotely by other users. For example:

  • You have committed some changes on your local branch for example called SOME-FEATURE
  • Your friend in the meantime was working on other features and he merged his branch into master

Now you want to see his and your changes on your local branch. So then you checkout master branch:

git checkout master

then you can pull:

git pull origin master

and then you go to your branch:

git checkout SOME-FEATURE

and you can do rebase master to get lastest changes from it and put your branch commits on top:

git rebase master

I hope now it's a bit more clear for you.

Is a new line = \n OR \r\n?

The given answer is far from complete. In fact, it is so far from complete that it tends to lead the reader to believe that this answer is OS dependent when it isn't. It also isn't something which is programming language dependent (as some commentators have suggested). I'm going to add more information in order to make this more clear. First, lets give the list of current new line variations (as in, what they've been since 1999):

  • \r\n is only used on Windows Notepad, the DOS command line, most of the Windows API and in some (older) Windows apps.
  • \n is used for all other systems, applications and the Internet.

You'll notice that I've put most Windows apps in the \n group which may be slightly controversial but before you disagree with this statement, please grab a UNIX formatted text file and try it in 10 web friendly Windows applications of your choice (which aren't listed in my exceptions above). What percentage of them handled it just fine? You'll find that they (practically) all implement auto detection of line endings or just use \n because, while Windows may use \r\n, the Internet uses \n. Therefore, it is best practice for applications to use \n alone if you want your output to be Internet friendly.

PHP also defines a newline character called PHP_EOL. This constant is set to the OS specific newline string for the machine PHP is running on (\r\n for Windows and \n for everything else). This constant is not very useful for webpages and should be avoided for HTML output or for writing most text to files. It becomes VERY useful when we move to command line output from PHP applications because it will allow your application to output to a terminal Window in a consistent manner across all supported OSes.

If you want your PHP applications to work from any server they are placed on, the two biggest things to remember are that you should always just use \n unless it is terminal output (in which case you use PHP_EOL) and you should also ALWAYS use / for your path separator (not \).

The even longer explanation:

An application may choose to use whatever line endings it likes regardless of the default OS line ending style. If I want my text editor to print a newline every time it encounters a period that is no harder than using the \n to represent a newline because I'm interpreting the text as I display it anyway. IOW, I'm fiddling around with measuring the width of each character so it knows where to display the next so it is very simple to add a statement saying that if the current char is a period then perform a newline action (or if it is a \n then display a period).

Aside from the null terminator, no character code is sacred and when you write a text editor or viewer you are in charge of translating the bits in your file into glyphs (or carriage returns) on the screen. The only thing that distinguishes a control character such as the newline from other characters is that most font sets don't include them (meaning they don't have a visual representation available).

That being said, if you are working at a higher level of abstraction then you probably aren't making your own textbox controls. If this is the case then you're stuck with whatever line ending that control makes available to you. Even in this case it is a simple matter to automatically detect the line ending style of any string and make the conversion before you load your text into the control and then undo it when you read from that control. Meaning, that if you're a desktop application dev and your application doesn't recognize \n as a newline then it isn't a very friendly application and you really have no excuse because it isn't hard to make it the right way. It also means that whomever wrote Notepad should be ashamed of himself because it really is very easy to do much better and so many people suffer through using it every day.

Set a default font for whole iOS app?

If you're using Swift, you can create a UILabel extension:

extension UILabel {

    @objc var substituteFontName : String {
        get { return self.font.fontName }
        set { self.font = UIFont(name: newValue, size: self.font.pointSize) }
    }

}

And then where you do your appearance proxying:

UILabel.appearance().substituteFontName = applicationFont

There is equivalent Objective-C code using UI_APPEARANCE_SELECTOR on a property with the name substituteFontName.

Addition

For the case where you'd want to set bold and regular fonts separately:

extension UILabel {

    @objc var substituteFontName : String {
        get { return self.font.fontName }
        set {
            if self.font.fontName.range(of:"Medium") == nil {
                self.font = UIFont(name: newValue, size: self.font.pointSize)
            }
        }
    }

    @objc var substituteFontNameBold : String {
        get { return self.font.fontName }
        set {
            if self.font.fontName.range(of:"Medium") != nil {
                self.font = UIFont(name: newValue, size: self.font.pointSize)
            }
        }
    }
}

Then for your UIAppearance proxies:

UILabel.appearance().substituteFontName = applicationFont
UILabel.appearance().substituteFontNameBold = applicationFontBold

Note: if you're finding that the bold substitution isn't working, it's possible the default font name doesn't contain "Medium". Switch out that string for another match as needed (thanks to Mason in the comments below) .

sql - insert into multiple tables in one query

Multiple SQL statements must be executed with the mysqli_multi_query() function.

Example (MySQLi Object-oriented):

    <?php
$servername = "localhost";
$username = "username";
$password = "password";
$dbname = "myDB";

// Create connection
$conn = new mysqli($servername, $username, $password, $dbname);
// Check connection
if ($conn->connect_error) {
    die("Connection failed: " . $conn->connect_error);
}

$sql = "INSERT INTO names (firstname, lastname)
VALUES ('inpute value here', 'inpute value here');";
$sql .= "INSERT INTO phones (landphone, mobile)
VALUES ('inpute value here', 'inpute value here');";

if ($conn->multi_query($sql) === TRUE) {
    echo "New records created successfully";
} else {
    echo "Error: " . $sql . "<br>" . $conn->error;
}

$conn->close();
?>

Javascript - Get Image height

Do you want to adjust the images themselves, or just the way they display? If the former, you want something on the server side. If the latter, you just need to change image.height and image.width.

Unable to start MySQL server

In my case I had to go to the MySQL installer, then configuration button for the MySQL server, then next until the option to "create the server as a windows service" ticked that, gave it a service name as MySQL8.0, next and then finish, that solved the issue and started a new service

convert php date to mysql format

If you know the format of date in $_POST[intake_date] you can use explode to get year , month and time and then concatenate to form a valid mySql date. for example if you are getting something like 12/15/1988 in date you can do like this

    $date = explode($_POST['intake_date'], '/');
    mysql_date = $date[2].'-'$date[1].'-'$date[0];

though if you have valid date date('y-m-d', strtotime($date)); should also work

Multiple INSERT statements vs. single INSERT with multiple VALUES

The issue probably has to do with the time it takes to compile the query.

If you want to speed up the inserts, what you really need to do is wrap them in a transaction:

BEGIN TRAN;
INSERT INTO T_TESTS (TestId, FirstName, LastName, Age)
   VALUES ('6f3f7257-a3d8-4a78-b2e1-c9b767cfe1c1', 'First 0', 'Last 0', 0);
INSERT INTO T_TESTS (TestId, FirstName, LastName, Age)
   VALUES ('32023304-2e55-4768-8e52-1ba589b82c8b', 'First 1', 'Last 1', 1);
...
INSERT INTO T_TESTS (TestId, FirstName, LastName, Age)
   VALUES ('f34d95a7-90b1-4558-be10-6ceacd53e4c4', 'First 999', 'Last 999', 999);
COMMIT TRAN;

From C#, you might also consider using a table valued parameter. Issuing multiple commands in a single batch, by separating them with semicolons, is another approach that will also help.

Increase days to php current Date()

How to ensure that there is a delay before a service is started in systemd?

This answer on super user I think is a better answer. From https://superuser.com/a/573761/67952

"But since you asked for a way without using Before and After, you can use:

Type=idle

which as man systemd.service explains

Behavior of idle is very similar to simple; however, actual execution of the service program is delayed until all active jobs are dispatched. This may be used to avoid interleaving of output of shell services with the status output on the console. Note that this type is useful only to improve console output, it is not useful as a general unit ordering tool, and the effect of this service type is subject to a 5s time-out, after which the service program is invoked anyway. What's the strangest corner case you've seen in C# or .NET?

This one had me truly puzzled (I apologise for the length but it's WinForm). I posted it in the newsgroups a while back.

I've come across an interesting bug. I have workarounds but i'd like to know the root of the problem. I've stripped it down into a short file and hope someone might have an idea about what's going on.

It's a simple program that loads a control onto a form and binds "Foo" against a combobox ("SelectedItem") for it's "Bar" property and a datetimepicker ("Value") for it's "DateTime" property. The DateTimePicker.Visible value is set to false. Once it's loaded up, select the combobox and then attempt to deselect it by selecting the checkbox. This is rendered impossible by the combobox retaining the focus, you cannot even close the form, such is it's grasp on the focus.

I have found three ways of fixing this problem.

a) Remove the binding to Bar (a bit obvious)

b) Remove the binding to DateTime

c) Make the DateTimePicker visible !?!

I'm currently running Win2k. And .NET 2.00, I think 1.1 has the same problem. Code is below.

using System;
using System.Collections;
using System.Windows.Forms;

namespace WindowsApplication6
{
    public class Bar
    {
        public Bar()
        {
        }
    }

    public class Foo
    {
        private Bar m_Bar = new Bar();
        private DateTime m_DateTime = DateTime.Now;

        public Foo()
        {
        }

        public Bar Bar
        {
            get
            {
                return m_Bar;
            }
            set
            {
                m_Bar = value;
            }
        }

        public DateTime DateTime
        {
            get
            {
                return m_DateTime;
            }
            set
            {
                m_DateTime = value;
            }
        }
    }

Cannot connect to repo with TortoiseSVN

Once I faced the same issue. I was trying to take svn checkout using repository URL consisting of DOMAIN NAME. I tried to connect using IP address in place of DOMAIN NAME and I was able to take checkout

How to replace a char in string with an Empty character in C#.NET

It always bothered me that I can't use the String.Remove method to get rid of instances of a string or character in a string so I usually add theses extension methods to my code base:

public static class StringExtensions
{
    public static string Remove(this string str, string toBeRemoved)
    {
        return str.Replace(toBeRemoved, "");
    }

    public static string RemoveChar(this string str, char toBeRemoved)
    {
        return str.Replace(toBeRemoved.ToString(), "");

    }
}

The one taking char can't use overload semantics unfortunately since it will resolve to string.Remove(int startIndex) since it is "closer"

This is of course purely esthetics, but I like it...

How do you detect the clearing of a "search" HTML5 input?

document.querySelectorAll('input[type=search]').forEach(function (input) {
   input.addEventListener('mouseup', function (e) {
                if (input.value.length > 0) {
                    setTimeout(function () {
                        if (input.value.length === 0) {
                            //do reset action here
                        }
                    }, 5);
                }
            });
}

Auto increment primary key in SQL Server Management Studio 2012

You can use the keyword IDENTITY as the data type to the column along with PRIMARY KEY constraint when creating the table.
ex:

StudentNumber IDENTITY(1,1) PRIMARY KEY

In here the first '1' means the starting value and the second '1' is the incrementing value.

How do I find the location of my Python site-packages directory?

A side-note: The proposed solution (distutils.sysconfig.get_python_lib()) does not work when there is more than one site-packages directory (as recommended by this article). It will only return the main site-packages directory.

Alas, I have no better solution either. Python doesn't seem to keep track of site-packages directories, just the packages within them.

gdb: "No symbol table is loaded"

You have to add extra parameter -g, which generates source level debug information. It will look like:

gcc -g prog.c

After that you can use gdb in common way.

How to convert list data into json in java

return newJsonData;
ObjectMapper() is com.fasterxml.jackson.databind.ObjectMapper.ObjectMapper();

Executing multi-line statements in the one-line command-line?

this style can be used in makefiles too (and in fact it is used quite often).

python - <<EOF
import sys
for r in range(3): print 'rob'
EOF

or

python - <<-EOF
    import sys
    for r in range(3): print 'rob'
EOF

in latter case leading tab characters are removed too (and some structured outlook can be achieved)

instead of EOF can stand any marker word not appearing in the here document at a beginning of a line (see also here documents in the bash manpage or here).

What's the best visual merge tool for Git?

So for the git merge, you can try:

  • DiffMerge to visually compare and merge files on Windows, OS X and Linux.

    DiffMerge

  • Meld, is a visual diff and merge tool.

    Meld is a visual diff and merge tool

  • KDiff3, a diff and merge program), which compares or merges 2 or 3 text input files/dirs.
  • opendiff (part of Xcode Tools on macOS), a command line utility which launches the FileMerge application from Terminal to graphically compare files or directories, including merging.

Splitting a list into N parts of approximately equal length

I tried most part of solutions, but they didn't work for my case, so I make a new function that work for most of cases and for any type of array:

import math

def chunkIt(seq, num):
    seqLen = len(seq)
    total_chunks = math.ceil(seqLen / num)
    items_per_chunk = num
    out = []
    last = 0

    while last < seqLen:
        out.append(seq[last:(last + items_per_chunk)])
        last += items_per_chunk

    return out

That's not quite true. E.g. for HTTP Windows supports URL based port sharing, allowing multiple processes to use the same IP address and Port.

How to assign name for a screen?

As already stated, screen -S SESSIONTITLE works for starting a session with a title (SESSIONTITLE), but if you start a session and later decide to change its title. This can be accomplished by using the default key bindings:

Ctrl+a, A

Which prompts:

Set windows title to:SESSIONTITLE

Change SESSIONTITLE by backspacing and typing in the desired title. To confirm the name change and list all titles.

Ctrl+a, "

How to programmatically open the Permission Screen for a specific app on Android Marshmallow?

How to play an android notification sound

If you want a default notification sound to be played, then you can use setDefaults(int) method of NotificationCompat.Builder class:

NotificationCompat.Builder mBuilder =
        new NotificationCompat.Builder(this)
                .setSmallIcon(R.drawable.ic_notification)
                .setContentTitle(getString(R.string.app_name))
                .setContentText(someText)
                .setDefaults(Notification.DEFAULT_SOUND)
                .setAutoCancel(true);

I believe that's the easiest way to accomplish your task.

Following up with what @Jeff Lowery answered: I enjoyed this answer so much and it sped up the process of what I was doing by 10x at least.

I'm new at programming but I attempted to modularize the answer it. Also, didn't like the error being thrown so I wrapped it in a do while loop instead. If anything I did is incorrect, please feel free to correct me.

    const { max = 1000000000n, fn } = object;
    let counter = 0;
    let running = true;
    Error.stackTraceLimit = 100;
    const A = (fn) => {
        fn();
        flipper = B;
    };
    const B = (fn) => {
        fn();
        flipper = A;
    };
    let flipper = B;
    const then = process.hrtime.bigint();
    do {
        counter++;
        if (counter > max) {
            const now = process.hrtime.bigint();
            const nanos = now - then;
            console.log({ 'runtime(sec)': Number(nanos) / 1000000000.0 });
            running = false;
        }
        flipper(fn);

Targeting .NET Framework 4.5 via Visual Studio 2010

FYI, if you want to create an Installer package in VS2010, unfortunately it only targets .NET 4. To work around this, you have to add NET 4.5 as a launch condition.

Add the following in to the Launch Conditions of the installer (Right click, View, Launch Conditions).

In "Search Target Machine", right click and select "Add Registry Search".

Property: REGISTRYVALUE1
RegKey: Software\Microsoft\NET Framework Setup\NDP\v4\Full
Root: vsdrrHKLM
Value: Release

Add new "Launch Condition":

Condition: REGISTRYVALUE1>="#378389"
InstallUrl: http://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/download/details.aspx?id=30653
Message: Setup requires .NET Framework 4.5 to be installed.

Where:

378389 = .NET Framework 4.5

378675 = .NET Framework 4.5.1 installed with Windows 8.1

378758 = .NET Framework 4.5.1 installed on Windows 8, Windows 7 SP1, or Windows Vista SP2

379893 = .NET Framework 4.5.2

Iterator over HashMap in Java

You should really use generics and the enhanced for loop for this:

Map<Integer, String> hm = new HashMap<>();
hm.put(0, "zero");
hm.put(1, "one");

for (Integer key : hm.keySet()) {
    System.out.println(key);
    System.out.println(hm.get(key));
}

http://ideone.com/sx3F0K

Or the entrySet() version:

Map<Integer, String> hm = new HashMap<>();
hm.put(0, "zero");
hm.put(1, "one");

for (Map.Entry<Integer, String> e : hm.entrySet()) {
    System.out.println(e.getKey());
    System.out.println(e.getValue());
}

How to get changes from another branch

  1. go to the master branch our-team

    • git checkout our-team
  2. pull all the new changes from our-team branch

    • git pull
  3. go to your branch featurex

    • git checkout featurex
  4. merge the changes of our-team branch into featurex branch

    • git merge our-team
    • or git cherry-pick {commit-hash} if you want to merge specific commits
  5. push your changes with the changes of our-team branch

    • git push

Note: probably you will have to fix conflicts after merging our-team branch into featurex branch before pushing

Which maven dependencies to include for spring 3.0?

Since this questions seems to still get quite a lot of views, it might be useful to note that for Spring 4+ it's easiest to start using Spring Boot and the Spring Boot starter POMs.

Using Spring Boot there's less dependencies to manage (and thus fewer conflicts), and setting up a working, well integrated Spring Context is a whole lot easier. I highly recommend it.

Function or sub to add new row and data to table

Minor variation on Geoff's answer.

New Data in Array:

Sub AddDataRow(tableName As String, NewData As Variant)
    Dim sheet As Worksheet
    Dim table As ListObject
    Dim col As Integer
    Dim lastRow As Range

    Set sheet = Range(tableName).Parent
    Set table = sheet.ListObjects.Item(tableName)

    'First check if the last row is empty; if not, add a row
    If table.ListRows.Count > 0 Then
        Set lastRow = table.ListRows(table.ListRows.Count).Range
        If Application.CountBlank(lastRow) < lastRow.Columns.Count Then
            table.ListRows.Add
        End If
    End If

    'Iterate through the last row and populate it with the entries from values()
    Set lastRow = table.ListRows(table.ListRows.Count).Range
    For col = 1 To lastRow.Columns.Count
        If col <= UBound(NewData) + 1 Then lastRow.Cells(1, col) = NewData(col - 1)
    Next col
End Sub

New Data in Horizontal Range:

Sub AddDataRow(tableName As String, NewData As Range)
    Dim sheet As Worksheet
    Dim table As ListObject
    Dim col As Integer
    Dim lastRow As Range

    Set sheet = Range(tableName).Parent
    Set table = sheet.ListObjects.Item(tableName)

    'First check if the last table row is empty; if not, add a row
    If table.ListRows.Count > 0 Then
        Set lastRow = table.ListRows(table.ListRows.Count).Range
        If Application.CountBlank(lastRow) < lastRow.Columns.Count Then
            table.ListRows.Add
        End If
    End If

    'Copy NewData to new table record
    Set lastRow = table.ListRows(table.ListRows.Count).Range
    lastRow.Value = NewData.Value
End Sub

How to round up value C# to the nearest integer?

Math.Round(0.5) returns zero due to floating point rounding errors, so you'll need to add a rounding error amount to the original value to ensure it doesn't round down, eg.

Console.WriteLine(Math.Round(0.5, 0).ToString()); // outputs 0 (!!)
Console.WriteLine(Math.Round(1.5, 0).ToString()); // outputs 2
Console.WriteLine(Math.Round(0.5 + 0.00000001, 0).ToString()); // outputs 1
Console.WriteLine(Math.Round(1.5 + 0.00000001, 0).ToString()); // outputs 2
Console.ReadKey();

Can I pass an array as arguments to a method with variable arguments in Java?

I was having same issue.

String[] arr= new String[] { "A", "B", "C" };
Object obj = arr;

And then passed the obj as varargs argument. It worked.

GetType used in PowerShell, difference between variables

Select-Object creates a new psobject and copies the properties you requested to it. You can verify this with GetType():

PS > $a.GetType().fullname
System.DayOfWeek

PS > $b.GetType().fullname
System.Management.Automation.PSCustomObject

Allow only numbers and dot in script

Use Jquery instead. Add a decimal class to your textbox:

<input type="text" class="decimal" value="" />

Use this code in your JS. It checks for multiple decimals and also restrict users to type only numbers.

$('.decimal').keyup(function(){
    var val = $(this).val();
    if(isNaN(val)){
         val = val.replace(/[^0-9\.]/g,'');
         if(val.split('.').length>2)
             val =val.replace(/\.+$/,"");
    }
    $(this).val(val);
});?

How to escape a single quote inside awk

For small scripts an optional way to make it readable is to use a variable like this:

awk -v fmt="'%s'\n" '{printf fmt, $1}'

I found it conveninet in a case where I had to produce many times the single-quote character in the output and the \047 were making it totally unreadable

How to merge specific files from Git branches

Although not a merge per se, sometimes the entire contents of another file on another branch are needed. Jason Rudolph's blog post provides a simple way to copy files from one branch to another. Apply the technique as follows:

$ git checkout branch1 # ensure in branch1 is checked out and active
$ git checkout branch2 file.py

Now file.py is now in branch1.

Initializing multiple variables to the same value in Java

String one, two, three;
one = two = three = "";

This should work with immutable objects. It doesn't make any sense for mutable objects for example:

Person firstPerson, secondPerson, thirdPerson;
firstPerson = secondPerson = thirdPerson = new Person();

All the variables would be pointing to the same instance. Probably what you would need in that case is:

Person firstPerson = new Person();
Person secondPerson = new Person();
Person thirdPerson = new Person();

Or better yet use an array or a Collection.

Linking dll in Visual Studio

I find it useful to understand the underlying tools. These are cl.exe (compiler) and link.exe (linker). You need to tell the compiler the signatures of the functions you want to call in the dynamic library (by including the library's header) and you need to tell the linker what the library is called and how to call it (by including the "implib" or import library).

This is roughly the same process gcc uses for linking to dynamic libraries on *nix, only the library object file differs.

Knowing the underlying tools means you can more quickly find the appropriate settings in the IDE and allows you to check that the commandlines generated are correct.

Example

Say A.exe depends B.dll. You need to include B's header in A.cpp (#include "B.h") then compile and link with B.lib:

cl A.cpp /c /EHsc
link A.obj B.lib

The first line generates A.obj, the second generates A.exe. The /c flag tells cl not to link and /EHsc specifies what kind of C++ exception handling the binary should use (there's no default, so you have to specify something).

If you don't specify /c cl will call link for you. You can use the /link flag to specify additional arguments to link and do it all at once if you like:

cl A.cpp /EHsc /link B.lib

If B.lib is not on the INCLUDE path you can give a relative or absolute path to it or add its parent directory to your include path with the /I flag.

If you're calling from cygwin (as I do) replace the forward slashes with dashes.

If you write #pragma comment(lib, "B.lib") in A.cpp you're just telling the compiler to leave a comment in A.obj telling the linker to link to B.lib. It's equivalent to specifying B.lib on the link commandline.

How to output something in PowerShell

Write-Host "Found file - " + $File.FullName -ForegroundColor Magenta

Magenta can be one of the "System.ConsoleColor" enumerator values - Black, DarkBlue, DarkGreen, DarkCyan, DarkRed, DarkMagenta, DarkYellow, Gray, DarkGray, Blue, Green, Cyan, Red, Magenta, Yellow, White.

The + $File.FullName is optional, and shows how to put a variable into the string.

Html attributes for EditorFor() in ASP.NET MVC

In my case I was trying to create an HTML5 number input editor template that could receive additional attributes. A neater approach would be to write your own HTML Helper, but since I already had my .ascx template, I went with this approach:

<%@ Control Language="C#" Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewUserControl" %>
<input id="<%= Regex.Replace(ViewData.TemplateInfo.GetFullHtmlFieldId(""), @"[\[\]]", "_") %>" name="<%= ViewData.TemplateInfo.HtmlFieldPrefix %>" type="number" value="<%= ViewData.TemplateInfo.FormattedModelValue %>"
<% if (ViewData["attributes"] != null)
   {
       Dictionary<string, string> attributes = (Dictionary<string, string>)ViewData["attributes"];
       foreach (string attributeName in attributes.Keys){%>
        <%= String.Format(" {0}=\"{1}\"", attributeName, attributes[attributeName])%>
       <% }
   } %> />

This ugly bit creates a number type input and looks for a ViewData Dictionary with the key "attributes". It will iterate through the dictionary adding its key/value pairs as attributes. The Regex in the ID attribute is unrelated and is there because when used in a collection, GetFullHtmlFieldId() returns an id containing square brackets [] which it would normally escape as underscores.

This template is then called like this:

Html.EditorFor(m => m.Quantity, "NumberField", new { attributes = new Dictionary<string, string>() { { "class", "txtQuantity" } } }

Verbose, but it works. You could probably use reflection in the template to use property names as attribute names instead of using a dictionary.

React Checkbox not sending onChange

If you have a handleChange function that looks like this:

handleChange = (e) => {
  this.setState({
    [e.target.name]: e.target.value,
  });
}

You can create a custom onChange function so that it acts like an text input would:

<input
  type="checkbox"
  name="check"
  checked={this.state.check}
  onChange={(e) => {
    this.handleChange({
      target: {
        name: e.target.name,
        value: e.target.checked,
      },
    });

Is it a good practice to use try-except-else in Python?

Python doesn't subscribe to the idea that exceptions should only be used for exceptional cases, in fact the idiom is 'ask for forgiveness, not permission'. This means that using exceptions as a routine part of your flow control is perfectly acceptable, and in fact, encouraged.

This is generally a good thing, as working this way helps avoid some issues (as an obvious example, race conditions are often avoided), and it tends to make code a little more readable.

Imagine you have a situation where you take some user input which needs to be processed, but have a default which is already processed. The try: ... except: ... else: ... structure makes for very readable code:

try:
   raw_value = int(input())
except ValueError:
   value = some_processed_value
else: # no error occured
   value = process_value(raw_value)

Compare to how it might work in other languages:

raw_value = input()
if valid_number(raw_value):
    value = process_value(int(raw_value))
else:
    value = some_processed_value

Note the advantages. There is no need to check the value is valid and parse it separately, they are done once. The code also follows a more logical progression, the main code path is first, followed by 'if it doesn't work, do this'.

The example is naturally a little contrived, but it shows there are cases for this structure.

Change value of input and submit form in JavaScript

You could do something like this instead:

<form name="myform" action="action.php" onsubmit="DoSubmit();">
    <input type="hidden" name="myinput" value="0" />
    <input type="text" name="message" value="" />
    <input type="submit" name="submit" />
</form>

And then modify your DoSubmit function to just return true, indicating that "it's OK, now you can submit the form" to the browser:

function DoSubmit(){
  document.myform.myinput.value = '1';
  return true;
}

I'd also be wary of using onclick events on a submit button; the order of events isn't immediately obvious, and your callback won't get called if the user submits by, for example, hitting return in a textbox.

What is lexical scope?

Lexical (AKA static) scoping refers to determining a variable's scope based solely on its position within the textual corpus of code. A variable always refers to its top-level environment. It's good to understand it in relation to dynamic scope.

Javac is not found

  1. Go to my computer;
  2. Right click properties;
  3. Go to advanced system settings;
  4. Go to environment variables;
  5. In user variables for user click on new(top new button, not on system variables);
  6. Set variable name as: Path
  7. Set the value of that variable to: C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.7.0_76\bin
  8. Click ok;
  9. Click ok;
  10. Click ok.

Now you're set. Type javac in cmd. All javac options will be displayed.

What is the difference between `throw new Error` and `throw someObject`?

throw something works with both object and strings.But it is less supported than the other method.throw new Error("") Will only work with strings and turns objects into useless [Object obj] in the catch block.

Passing parameters to JavaScript files

Nice question and creative answers but my suggetion is to make your methods paramterized and that should solve all your problems without any tricks.

if you have function:

function A()
{
    var val = external_value_from_query_string_or_global_param;
}

you can change this to:

function B(function_param)
{
    var val = function_param;
}

I think this is most natural approach, you don't need to crate extra documentation about 'file parameters' and you receive the same. This specially useful if you allow other developers to use your js file.

If two cells match, return value from third

=IF(ISNA(INDEX(B:B,MATCH(C2,A:A,0))),"",INDEX(B:B,MATCH(C2,A:A,0)))

Will return the answer you want and also remove the #N/A result that would appear if you couldn't find a result due to it not appearing in your lookup list.

Distinct() with lambda?

A tricky way to do this is use Aggregate() extension, using a dictionary as accumulator with the key-property values as keys:

var customers = new List<Customer>();

var distincts = customers.Aggregate(new Dictionary<int, Customer>(),
                                    (d, e) => { d[e.CustomerId] = e; return d; },
                                    d => d.Values);

And a GroupBy-style solution is using ToLookup():

var distincts = customers.ToLookup(c => c.CustomerId).Select(g => g.First());

How can I monitor the thread count of a process on linux?

If you want the number of threads per user in a linux system then you should use:

ps -eLf | grep <USER> | awk '{ num += $6 } END { print num }'

where as <USER> use the desired user name.

How do I debug jquery AJAX calls?

you can use success function, once see this jquery.ajax settings

 $('#ChangePermission').click(function(){
    $.ajax({
        url: 'change_permission.php',
        type: 'POST',
        data: {
        'user': document.GetElementById("user").value,
        'perm': document.GetElementById("perm").value
        }
       success:function(result)//we got the response
       {
        //you can try to write alert(result) to see what is the response,this result variable will contains what you prints in the php page
       }
    })
})

we can also have error() function

hope this helps you

TensorFlow ValueError: Cannot feed value of shape (64, 64, 3) for Tensor u'Placeholder:0', which has shape '(?, 64, 64, 3)'

Powder's comment may go undetected like I missed it so many times,. So with the hope of making it more visible, I will re-iterate his point.

Sometimes using image = array(img).reshape(a,b,c,d) will reshape alright but from experience, my kernel crashes every time I try to use the new dimension in an operation. The safest to use is

np.expand_dims(img, axis=0)

It works perfect every time. I just can't explain why. This link has a great explanation and examples regarding its usage.

when I try to open an HTML file through `http://localhost/xampp/htdocs/index.html` it says unable to connect to localhost

htdocs is your default document-root directory, so you have to use localhost/index.html to see that html file. In other words, localhost is mapped to xampp/htdocs, so index.html is at localhost itself. You can change the location of document root by modifying httpd.conf and restarting the server.

How can I let a user download multiple files when a button is clicked?

The best way to do this is to have your files zipped and link to that:

The other solution can be found here: How to make a link open multiple pages when clicked

Which states the following:

HTML:

<a href="#" class="yourlink">Download</a>

JS:

$('a.yourlink').click(function(e) {
    e.preventDefault();
    window.open('mysite.com/file1');
    window.open('mysite.com/file2');
    window.open('mysite.com/file3');
});

Having said this, I would still go with zipping the file, as this implementation requires JavaScript and can also sometimes be blocked as popups.

Trying to retrieve first 5 characters from string in bash error?

Depending on your shell, you may be able to use the following syntax:

expr substr $string $position $length

So for your example:

TESTSTRINGONE="MOTEST"
echo `expr substr ${TESTSTRINGONE} 0 5`

Alternatively,

echo 'MOTEST' | cut -c1-5

or

echo 'MOTEST' | awk '{print substr($0,0,5)}'

Easiest way to ignore blank lines when reading a file in Python

If you want you can just put what you had in a list comprehension:

names_list = [line for line in open("names.txt", "r").read().splitlines() if line]

or

all_lines = open("names.txt", "r").read().splitlines()
names_list = [name for name in all_lines if name]

splitlines() has already removed the line endings.

I don't think those are as clear as just looping explicitly though:

names_list = []
with open('names.txt', 'r') as _:
    for line in _:
        line = line.strip()
        if line:
            names_list.append(line)

Edit:

Although, filter looks quite readable and concise:

names_list = filter(None, open("names.txt", "r").read().splitlines())

Delete specified file from document directory

Instead of having the error set to NULL, have it set to

NSError *error;
[fileManager removeItemAtPath:filePath error:&error];
if (error){
NSLog(@"%@", error);
}

this will tell you if it's actually deleting the file

What is the difference between Trap and Interrupt?

Interrupts are hardware interrupts, while traps are software-invoked interrupts. Occurrences of hardware interrupts usually disable other hardware interrupts, but this is not true for traps. If you need to disallow hardware interrupts until a trap is served, you need to explicitly clear the interrupt flag. And usually the interrupt flag on the computer affects (hardware) interrupts as opposed to traps. This means that clearing this flag will not prevent traps. Unlike traps, interrupts should preserve the previous state of the CPU.

Append text to file from command line without using io redirection

If you just want to tack something on by hand, then the sed answer will work for you. If instead the text is in file(s) (say file1.txt and file2.txt):

Using Perl:

perl -e 'open(OUT, ">>", "outfile.txt"); print OUT while (<>);' file*.txt

N.B. while the >> may look like an indication of redirection, it is just the file open mode, in this case "append".

Resolve Javascript Promise outside function scope

A solution I came up with in 2015 for my framework. I called this type of promises Task

function createPromise(handler){
  var resolve, reject;

  var promise = new Promise(function(_resolve, _reject){
    resolve = _resolve;
    reject = _reject;
    if(handler) handler(resolve, reject);
  })

  promise.resolve = resolve;
  promise.reject = reject;
  return promise;
}

// create
var promise = createPromise()
promise.then(function(data){ alert(data) })

// resolve from outside
promise.resolve(200)

VS 2017 Metadata file '.dll could not be found

I had this issue with a solution containing multiple projects.

It came from duplicating a .csproj and adding the copy to the solution. A .csproj file contains a <ProjectGuid> element. I set the GUID of the copied project to a new one.

Update: Which GUID you use doesn't matter, it just needs to be different from the other project's GUID. You can create a new GUID from within Visual Studio: Tools -> Create GUID and copy the part between the curly brackets, i.e. {...}. Use that as the new value for the <ProjectGuid> element.

I also performed the following steps (not neccessarily neccessary, but they don't hurt):

  1. Close the solution
  2. Delete bin folder
  3. Delete all obj folders
  4. Open solution and build

How to tell if a string contains a certain character in JavaScript?

If you are reading data from the DOM such as a p or h1 tag, for example, you will want to use two native JavaScript functions, it is quiet easy but limited to es6, at least for the solution I am going to provide. I will search all p tags within the DOM, if the text contains a "T" the entire paragraph will be removed. I hope this little example helps someone out!

HTML

<p>Text you need to read one</p>
<p>Text you need to read two</p>
<p>Text you need to read three</p>

JS

let paras = document.querySelectorAll('p');

paras.forEach(p => {
  if(p.textContent.includes('T')){
       p.remove();
    }
});

Returning IEnumerable<T> vs. IQueryable<T>

The top answer is good but it doesn't mention expression trees which explain "how" the two interfaces differ. Basically, there are two identical sets of LINQ extensions. Where(), Sum(), Count(), FirstOrDefault(), etc all have two versions: one that accepts functions and one that accepts expressions.

  • The IEnumerable version signature is: Where(Func<Customer, bool> predicate)

  • The IQueryable version signature is: Where(Expression<Func<Customer, bool>> predicate)

You've probably been using both of those without realizing it because both are called using identical syntax:

e.g. Where(x => x.City == "<City>") works on both IEnumerable and IQueryable

  • When using Where() on an IEnumerable collection, the compiler passes a compiled function to Where()

  • When using Where() on an IQueryable collection, the compiler passes an expression tree to Where(). An expression tree is like the reflection system but for code. The compiler converts your code into a data structure that describes what your code does in a format that's easily digestible.

Why bother with this expression tree thing? I just want Where() to filter my data. The main reason is that both the EF and Linq2SQL ORMs can convert expression trees directly into SQL where your code will execute much faster.

Oh, that sounds like a free performance boost, should I use AsQueryable() all over the place in that case? No, IQueryable is only useful if the underlying data provider can do something with it. Converting something like a regular List to IQueryable will not give you any benefit.

Explanation on Integer.MAX_VALUE and Integer.MIN_VALUE to find min and max value in an array

but as for this method, I don't understand the purpose of Integer.MAX_VALUE and Integer.MIN_VALUE.

By starting out with smallest set to Integer.MAX_VALUE and largest set to Integer.MIN_VALUE, they don't have to worry later about the special case where smallest and largest don't have a value yet. If the data I'm looking through has a 10 as the first value, then numbers[i]<smallest will be true (because 10 is < Integer.MAX_VALUE) and we'll update smallest to be 10. Similarly, numbers[i]>largest will be true because 10 is > Integer.MIN_VALUE and we'll update largest. And so on.

Of course, when doing this, you must ensure that you have at least one value in the data you're looking at. Otherwise, you end up with apocryphal numbers in smallest and largest.

Note the point Onome Sotu makes in the comments:

...if the first item in the array is larger than the rest, then the largest item will always be Integer.MIN_VALUE because of the else-if statement.

Which is true; here's a simpler example demonstrating the problem (live copy):

public class Example
{
    public static void main(String[] args) throws Exception {
        int[] values = {5, 1, 2};
        int smallest = Integer.MAX_VALUE;
        int largest  = Integer.MIN_VALUE;
        for (int value : values) {
            if (value < smallest) {
                smallest = value;
            } else if (value > largest) {
                largest = value;
            }
        }
        System.out.println(smallest + ", " + largest); // 1, 2 -- WRONG
    }
}

To fix it, either:

  1. Don't use else, or

  2. Start with smallest and largest equal to the first element, and then loop the remaining elements, keeping the else if.

Here's an example of that second one (live copy):

public class Example
{
    public static void main(String[] args) throws Exception {
        int[] values = {5, 1, 2};
        int smallest = values[0];
        int largest  = values[0];
        for (int n = 1; n < values.length; ++n) {
            int value = values[n];
            if (value < smallest) {
                smallest = value;
            } else if (value > largest) {
                largest = value;
            }
        }
        System.out.println(smallest + ", " + largest); // 1, 5
    }
}

How do you serialize a model instance in Django?

This is a project that it can serialize(JSON base now) all data in your model and put them to a specific directory automatically and then it can deserialize it whenever you want... I've personally serialized thousand records with this script and then load all of them back to another database without any losing data.

Anyone that would be interested in opensource projects can contribute this project and add more feature to it.

Is it possible to have a custom facebook like button?

It's possible with a lot of work.

Basically, you have to post likes action via the Open Graph API. Then, you can add a custom design to your like button.

But then, you''ll need to keep track yourself of the likes so a returning user will be able to unlike content he liked previously.

Plus, you'll need to ask user to log into your app and ask them the publish_action permission.

All in all, if you're doing this for an application, it may worth it. For a website where you basically want user to like articles, then this is really to much.

Also, consider that you increase your drop-off rate each time you ask user a permission via a Facebook login.

If you want to see an example, I've recently made an app using the open graph like button, just hover on some photos in the mosaique to see it

Laravel - Eloquent "Has", "With", "WhereHas" - What do they mean?

Document has already explain the usage. So I am using SQL to explain these methods

Example:

Assuming there is an Order (orders) has many OrderItem (order_items).

And you have already build the relationship between them.

// App\Models\Order:
public function orderItems() {
    return $this->hasMany('App\Models\OrderItem', 'order_id', 'id');
}

These three methods are all based on a relationship.

With

Result: with() return the model object and its related results.

Advantage: It is eager-loading which can prevent the N+1 problem.

When you are using the following Eloquent Builder:

Order::with('orderItems')->get();

Laravel change this code to only two SQL:

// get all orders:
SELECT * FROM orders;

// get the order_items based on the orders' id above
SELECT * FROM order_items WHERE order_items.order_id IN (1,2,3,4...);

And then laravel merge the results of the second SQL as different from the results of the first SQL by foreign key. At last return the collection results.

So if you selected columns without the foreign_key in closure, the relationship result will be empty:

Order::with(['orderItems' => function($query) {
           // $query->sum('quantity');
           $query->select('quantity'); // without `order_id`
       }
])->get();

#=> result:
[{  id: 1,
    code: '00001',
    orderItems: [],    // <== is empty
  },{
    id: 2,
    code: '00002',
    orderItems: [],    // <== is empty
  }...
}]

Has

Has will return the model's object that its relationship is not empty.

Order::has('orderItems')->get();

Laravel change this code to one SQL:

select * from `orders` where exists (
    select * from `order_items` where `order`.`id` = `order_item`.`order_id`
)

whereHas

whereHas and orWhereHas methods to put where conditions on your has queries. These methods allow you to add customized constraints to a relationship constraint.

Order::whereHas('orderItems', function($query) {
   $query->where('status', 1);
})->get();

Laravel change this code to one SQL:

select * from `orders` where exists (
    select *
    from `order_items`
    where `orders`.`id` = `order_items`.`order_id` and `status` = 1
)

Use of PUT vs PATCH methods in REST API real life scenarios

Everyone else has answered the PUT vs PATCH. I was just going to answer what part of the title of the original question asks: "... in REST API real life scenarios". In the real world, this happened to me with internet application that had a RESTful server and a relational database with a Customer table that was "wide" (about 40 columns). I mistakenly used PUT but had assumed it was like a SQL Update command and had not filled out all the columns. Problems: 1) Some columns were optional (so blank was valid answer), 2) many columns rarely changed, 3) some columns the user was not allowed to change such as time stamp of Last Purchase Date, 4) one column was a free-form text "Comments" column that users diligently filled with half-page customer services comments like spouses name to ask about OR usual order, 5) I was working on an internet app at time and there was worry about packet size.

The disadvantage of PUT is that it forces you to send a large packet of info (all columns including the entire Comments column, even though only a few things changed) AND multi-user issue of 2+ users editing the same customer simultaneously (so last one to press Update wins). The disadvantage of PATCH is that you have to keep track on the view/screen side of what changed and have some intelligence to send only the parts that changed. Patch's multi-user issue is limited to editing the same column(s) of same customer.

Angular 4 default radio button checked by default

if you're using reactive forms then you can use the following way. consider the following example.

in component.html

 `<p class="mr-3"> Require Shipping:

          <input type="radio" class="ml-2" value="true" name="requiresShipping"
           id="requiresShipping" formControlName="requiresShipping">

                   &nbsp;  Yes  &nbsp;

          <input type="radio" class="ml-2" value="false" name="requiresShipping"
          id="requiresShipping" formControlName="requiresShipping">

                   &nbsp;  No   &nbsp;
 </p>`

in component.ts

`
 export class ClassName implements OnInit {
      public yourForm: FormGroup

      constructor(
            private fromBuilder: FormBuilder
      ) {
            this.yourForm= this.fromBuilder.group({
                  requiresShipping: this.fromBuilder.control('true'),
            })
        }
 }

`

now you will get the default selected radio button.

How to add a new row to datagridview programmatically

This is how I add a row if the dgrview is empty: (myDataGridView has two columns in my example)

DataGridViewRow row = new DataGridViewRow();
row.CreateCells(myDataGridView);

row.Cells[0].Value = "some value";
row.Cells[1].Value = "next columns value";

myDataGridView.Rows.Add(row);

According to docs: "CreateCells() clears the existing cells and sets their template according to the supplied DataGridView template".

Reading serial data in realtime in Python

You can use inWaiting() to get the amount of bytes available at the input queue.

Then you can use read() to read the bytes, something like that:

While True:
    bytesToRead = ser.inWaiting()
    ser.read(bytesToRead)

Why not to use readline() at this case from Docs:

Read a line which is terminated with end-of-line (eol) character (\n by default) or until timeout.

You are waiting for the timeout at each reading since it waits for eol. the serial input Q remains the same it just a lot of time to get to the "end" of the buffer, To understand it better: you are writing to the input Q like a race car, and reading like an old car :)

Difference between .on('click') vs .click()

$('.UPDATE').click(function(){ }); **V/S**
$(document).on('click','.UPDATE',function(){ });

$(document).on('click','.UPDATE',function(){ });
  1. it is more effective then $('.UPDATE').click(function(){ });
  2. it can use less memory and work for dynamically added elements.
  3. some time dynamic fetched data with edit and delete button not generate JQuery event at time of EDIT OR DELETE DATA of row data in form, that time $(document).on('click','.UPDATE',function(){ }); is effectively work like same fetched data by using jquery. button not working at time of update or delete:

Regex for Mobile Number Validation

This regex is very short and sweet for working.

/^([+]\d{2})?\d{10}$/

Ex: +910123456789 or 0123456789

-> /^ and $/ is for starting and ending
-> The ? mark is used for conditional formatting where before question mark is available or not it will work
-> ([+]\d{2}) this indicates that the + sign with two digits '\d{2}' here you can place digit as per country
-> after the ? mark '\d{10}' this says that the digits must be 10 of length change as per your country mobile number length

This is how this regex for mobile number is working.
+ sign is used for world wide matching of number.

if you want to add the space between than you can use the

[ ]

here the square bracket represents the character sequence and a space is character for searching in regex.
for the space separated digit you can use this regex

/^([+]\d{2}[ ])?\d{10}$/

Ex: +91 0123456789

Thanks ask any question if you have.

How to detect escape key press with pure JS or jQuery?

Best way is to make function for this

FUNCTION:

$.fn.escape = function (callback) {
    return this.each(function () {
        $(document).on("keydown", this, function (e) {
            var keycode = ((typeof e.keyCode !='undefined' && e.keyCode) ? e.keyCode : e.which);
            if (keycode === 27) {
                callback.call(this, e);
            };
        });
    });
};

EXAMPLE:

$("#my-div").escape(function () {
    alert('Escape!');
})

How to install a private NPM module without my own registry?

You can use Verdaccio for this purpose which is a lightweight private npm proxy registry built in Node.js. Also it is free and open-source. By using Verdaccio it does not involve that much hassle as a plain private npm registry would.

You can find detailed information about how to install and run it on their website but here are the steps:

It requires node >=8.x.

    // Install it from npm globally
    npm install -g verdaccio

    // Simply run with the default configuration that will host the registry which you can reach at http://localhost:4873/
    verdaccio

    // Set the registry for your project and every package will be downloaded from your private registry
    npm set registry http://localhost:4873/

    // OR use the registry upon individual package install
    npm install --registry http://localhost:4873

It also has a docker so you can easily publish it to your publicly available docker and voila you have a private npm repository that can be distributed to others in a way as you configure it!

ArrayList<String> alphabetList = new ArrayList<String>();
alphabetList.add("A"); // 0 index
alphabetList.add("B"); // 1 index
alphabetList.add("C"); // 2 index
alphabetList.add("D"); // 3 index
alphabetList.add("E"); // 4 index
alphabetList.add("F"); // 5 index
alphabetList.add("G"); // 6 index
alphabetList.add("H"); // 7 index
alphabetList.add("I"); // 8 index

int position = -1;
position = alphabetList.indexOf("H");
if (position == -1) {
    Log.e(TAG, "Object not found in List");
} else {
    Log.i(TAG, "" + position);
}

Output: List Index : 7

If you pass H it will return 7, if you pass J it will return -1 as we defined default value to -1.

How to create custom exceptions in Java?

To define a checked exception you create a subclass (or hierarchy of subclasses) of java.lang.Exception. For example:

public class FooException extends Exception {
  public FooException() { super(); }
  public FooException(String message) { super(message); }
  public FooException(String message, Throwable cause) { super(message, cause); }
  public FooException(Throwable cause) { super(cause); }
}

Methods that can potentially throw or propagate this exception must declare it:

public void calculate(int i) throws FooException, IOException;

... and code calling this method must either handle or propagate this exception (or both):

try {
  int i = 5;
  myObject.calculate(5);
} catch(FooException ex) {
  // Print error and terminate application.
  ex.printStackTrace();
  System.exit(1);
} catch(IOException ex) {
  // Rethrow as FooException.
  throw new FooException(ex);
}

You'll notice in the above example that IOException is caught and rethrown as FooException. This is a common technique used to encapsulate exceptions (typically when implementing an API).

Sometimes there will be situations where you don't want to force every method to declare your exception implementation in its throws clause. In this case you can create an unchecked exception. An unchecked exception is any exception that extends java.lang.RuntimeException (which itself is a subclass of java.lang.Exception):

public class FooRuntimeException extends RuntimeException {
  ...
}

Methods can throw or propagate FooRuntimeException exception without declaring it; e.g.

public void calculate(int i) {
  if (i < 0) {
    throw new FooRuntimeException("i < 0: " + i);
  }
}

Unchecked exceptions are typically used to denote a programmer error, for example passing an invalid argument to a method or attempting to breach an array index bounds.

The java.lang.Throwable class is the root of all errors and exceptions that can be thrown within Java. java.lang.Exception and java.lang.Error are both subclasses of Throwable. Anything that subclasses Throwable may be thrown or caught. However, it is typically bad practice to catch or throw Error as this is used to denote errors internal to the JVM that cannot usually be "handled" by the programmer (e.g. OutOfMemoryError). Likewise you should avoid catching Throwable, which could result in you catching Errors in addition to Exceptions.

jQuery getTime function

this is my way :

    <script type="text/javascript">
$(document).ready(function() {
    setInterval(function(){currentTime("#idTimeField")}, 500);
});
function currentTime(field) {
    var now = new Date();
    now = now.getHours() + ':' + now.getMinutes() + ':' + now.getSeconds();
    $(field).val(now);
}

it's not maybe the best but do the work :)

How to make a flex item not fill the height of the flex container?

When you create a flex container various default flex rules come into play.

Two of these default rules are flex-direction: row and align-items: stretch. This means that flex items will automatically align in a single row, and each item will fill the height of the container.

If you don't want flex items to stretch – i.e., like you wrote:

make its height the minimum required for holding its content

... then simply override the default with align-items: flex-start.

_x000D_
_x000D_
#a {_x000D_
  display: flex;_x000D_
  align-items: flex-start; /* NEW */_x000D_
}_x000D_
#a > div {_x000D_
  background-color: red;_x000D_
  padding: 5px;_x000D_
  margin: 2px;_x000D_
}_x000D_
#b {_x000D_
  height: auto;_x000D_
}
_x000D_
<div id="a">_x000D_
  <div id="b">left</div>_x000D_

  </div>_x000D_
</div>

Here's an illustration from the flexbox spec that highlights the five values for align-items and how they position flex items within the container. As mentioned before, stretch is the default value.

Slack URL to open a channel from browser

Referencing a channel within a conversation

To create a clickable reference to a channel in a Slack conversation, just type # followed by the channel name. For example: #general.

# mention of a channel

To grab a link to a channel through the Slack UI

To share the channel URL externally, you can grab its link by control-clicking (Mac) or right-clicking (Windows) on the channel name:

grabbing a channel's URL

The link would look like this:

https://yourteam.slack.com/messages/C69S1L3SS

Note that this link doesn't change even if you change the name of the channel. So, it is better to use this link rather than the one based on channel's name.

To compose a URL for a channel based on channel name

https://yourteam.slack.com/channels/<channel_name>

Opening the above URL from a browser would launch the Slack client (if available) or open the slack channel on the browser itself.

To compose a URL for a direct message (DM) channel to a user

https://yourteam.slack.com/channels/<username>

How to create localhost database using mysql?

removing temp files, and did you restart the computer or stop the MySQL service? That's the error message you get when there isn't a MySQL server running.

Replace all whitespace with a line break/paragraph mark to make a word list

The portable way to do this is:

sed -e 's/[ \t][ \t]*/\
/g'

That's an actual newline between the backslash and the slash-g. Many sed implementations don't know about \n, so you need a literal newline. The backslash before the newline prevents sed from getting upset about the newline. (in sed scripts the commands are normally terminated by newlines)

With GNU sed you can use \n in the substitution, and \s in the regex:

sed -e 's/\s\s*/\n/g'

GNU sed also supports "extended" regular expressions (that's egrep style, not perl-style) if you give it the -r flag, so then you can use +:

sed -r -e 's/\s+/\n/g'

If this is for Linux only, you can probably go with the GNU command, but if you want this to work on systems with a non-GNU sed (eg: BSD, Mac OS-X), you might want to go with the more portable option.

Function to calculate distance between two coordinates

I implemeneted this algorithm in typescript and ES6

export type Coordinate = {
  lat: number;
  lon: number;
};

get the distance between two points:

function getDistanceBetweenTwoPoints(cord1: Coordinate, cord2: Coordinate) {
  if (cord1.lat == cord2.lat && cord1.lon == cord2.lon) {
    return 0;
  }

  const radlat1 = (Math.PI * cord1.lat) / 180;
  const radlat2 = (Math.PI * cord2.lat) / 180;

  const theta = cord1.lon - cord2.lon;
  const radtheta = (Math.PI * theta) / 180;

  let dist =
    Math.sin(radlat1) * Math.sin(radlat2) +
    Math.cos(radlat1) * Math.cos(radlat2) * Math.cos(radtheta);

  if (dist > 1) {
    dist = 1;
  }

  dist = Math.acos(dist);
  dist = (dist * 180) / Math.PI;
  dist = dist * 60 * 1.1515;
  dist = dist * 1.609344; //convert miles to km

  return dist;
}

get the distance between an array of coordinates

export function getTotalDistance(coordinates: Coordinate[]) {
  coordinates = coordinates.filter((cord) => {
    if (cord.lat && cord.lon) {
      return true;
    }
  });

  let totalDistance = 0;

  if (!coordinates) {
    return 0;
  }

  if (coordinates.length < 2) {
    return 0;
  }

  for (let i = 0; i < coordinates.length - 2; i++) {
    if (
      !coordinates[i].lon ||
      !coordinates[i].lat ||
      !coordinates[i + 1].lon ||
      !coordinates[i + 1].lat
    ) {
      totalDistance = totalDistance;
    }
    totalDistance =
      totalDistance +
      getDistanceBetweenTwoPoints(coordinates[i], coordinates[i + 1]);
  }

  return totalDistance.toFixed(2);
}

ORA-00060: deadlock detected while waiting for resource

I was recently struggling with a similar problem. It turned out that the database was missing indexes on foreign keys. That caused Oracle to lock many more records than required which quickly led to a deadlock during high concurrency.

Here is an excellent article with lots of good detail, suggestions, and details about how to fix a deadlock: http://www.oratechinfo.co.uk/deadlocks.html#unindex_fk

How do I tell Spring Boot which main class to use for the executable jar?

Convert Char to String in C

To answer the question without reading too much else into it i would

char str[2] = "\0"; /* gives {\0, \0} */
str[0] = fgetc(fp);

You could use the second line in a loop with what ever other string operations you want to keep using char's as strings.

SimpleDateFormat returns 24-hour date: how to get 12-hour date?

  String str=sdf.format(c.getTime());

How to start activity in another application?

If you guys are facing "Permission Denial: starting Intent..." error or if the app is getting crash without any reason during launching the app - Then use this single line code in Manifest

android:exported="true"

Please be careful with finish(); , if you missed out it the app getting frozen. if its mentioned the app would be a smooth launcher.

finish();

The other solution only works for two activities that are in the same application. In my case, application B doesn't know class com.example.MyExampleActivity.class in the code, so compile will fail.

I searched on the web and found something like this below, and it works well.

Intent intent = new Intent();
intent.setComponent(new ComponentName("com.example", "com.example.MyExampleActivity"));
startActivity(intent);

You can also use the setClassName method:

Intent intent = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_MAIN);
intent.setClassName("com.hotfoot.rapid.adani.wheeler.android", "com.hotfoot.rapid.adani.wheeler.android.view.activities.MainActivity");
startActivity(intent);
finish();

You can also pass the values from one app to another app :

Intent launchIntent = getApplicationContext().getPackageManager().getLaunchIntentForPackage("com.hotfoot.rapid.adani.wheeler.android.LoginActivity");
if (launchIntent != null) {
    launchIntent.putExtra("AppID", "MY-CHILD-APP1");
    launchIntent.putExtra("UserID", "MY-APP");
    launchIntent.putExtra("Password", "MY-PASSWORD");
    startActivity(launchIntent);
    finish();
} else {
    Toast.makeText(getApplicationContext(), " launch Intent not available", Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show();
}

How to break out from foreach loop in javascript

Use a for loop instead of .forEach()

var myObj = [{"a": "1","b": null},{"a": "2","b": 5}]
var result = false

for(var call of myObj) {
    console.log(call)

    var a = call['a'], b = call['b']

    if(a == null || b == null) {
        result = false
        break
    }

How do I loop through rows with a data reader in C#?

int count = reader.FieldCount;
while(reader.Read()) {
    for(int i = 0 ; i < count ; i++) {
        Console.WriteLine(reader.GetValue(i));
    }
}

Note; if you have multiple grids, then:

do {
    int count = reader.FieldCount;
    while(reader.Read()) {
        for(int i = 0 ; i < count ; i++) {
            Console.WriteLine(reader.GetValue(i));
        }
    }
} while (reader.NextResult())

How to ignore HTML element from tabindex?

If you are working in a browser that doesn't support tabindex="-1", you may be able to get away with just giving the things that need to be skipped a really high tab index. For example tabindex="500" basically moves the object's tab order to the end of the page.

I did this for a long data entry form with a button thrown in the middle of it. It's not a button people click very often so I didn't want them to accidentally tab to it and press enter. disabled wouldn't work because it's a button.

Slide right to left?

If your div is absolutely positioned and you know the width, you can just use:

#myDiv{
position:absolute;
left: 0;
width: 200px;
}

$('#myDiv').animate({left:'-200'},1000);

Which will slide it off screen.

Alternatively, you could wrap it a container div

#myContainer{
position:relative;
width: 200px;
overflow: hidden;
}

#myDiv{
position:absolute;
top: 0;
left: 0;

</div>

$('#myDiv').animate({left:'-200'},1000);

How to square or raise to a power (elementwise) a 2D numpy array?

>>> import numpy
>>> print numpy.power.__doc__

power(x1, x2[, out])

First array elements raised to powers from second array, element-wise.

Raise each base in `x1` to the positionally-corresponding power in
`x2`. `x1` and `x2` must be broadcastable to the same shape.

Parameters
----------
x1 : array_like
    The bases.
x2 : array_like
    The exponents.

Returns
-------
y : ndarray
    The bases in `x1` raised to the exponents in `x2`.

Examples
--------
Cube each element in a list.

>>> x1 = range(6)
>>> x1
[0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
>>> np.power(x1, 3)
array([  0,   1,   8,  27,  64, 125])

Raise the bases to different exponents.

>>> x2 = [1.0, 2.0, 3.0, 3.0, 2.0, 1.0]
>>> np.power(x1, x2)
array([  0.,   1.,   8.,  27.,  16.,   5.])

The effect of broadcasting.

>>> x2 = np.array([[1, 2, 3, 3, 2, 1], [1, 2, 3, 3, 2, 1]])
>>> x2
array([[1, 2, 3, 3, 2, 1],
       [1, 2, 3, 3, 2, 1]])
>>> np.power(x1, x2)
array([[ 0,  1,  8, 27, 16,  5],
       [ 0,  1,  8, 27, 16,  5]])
