How to wait for a JavaScript Promise to resolve before resuming function?

If using ES2016 you can use async and await and do something like:

(async () => {
  const data = await fetch(url)
  myFunc(data)
}())

If using ES2015 you can use Generators. If you don't like the syntax you can abstract it away using an async utility function as explained here.

If using ES5 you'll probably want a library like Bluebird to give you more control.

Finally, if your runtime supports ES2015 already execution order may be preserved with parallelism using Fetch Injection.

Python speed testing - Time Difference - milliseconds

Since Python 2.7 there's the timedelta.total_seconds() method. So, to get the elapsed milliseconds:

>>> import datetime
>>> a = datetime.datetime.now()
>>> b = datetime.datetime.now()
>>> delta = b - a
>>> print delta
0:00:05.077263
>>> int(delta.total_seconds() * 1000) # milliseconds
5077

Convert array into csv

The accepted answer from Paul is great. I've made a small extension to this which is very useful if you have an multidimensional array like this (which is quite common):

Array
(
    [0] => Array
        (
            [a] => "a"
            [b] => "b"
        )

    [1] => Array
        (
            [a] => "a2"
            [b] => "b2"
        )

    [2] => Array
        (
            [a] => "a3"
            [b] => "b3"
        )

    [3] => Array
        (
            [a] => "a4"
            [b] => "b4"
        )

    [4] => Array
        (
            [a] => "a5"
            [b] => "b5"
        )

)

So I just took Paul's function from above:

/**
  * Formats a line (passed as a fields array) as CSV and returns the CSV as a string.
  * Adapted from http://us3.php.net/manual/en/function.fputcsv.php#87120
  */
function arrayToCsv( array &$fields, $delimiter = ';', $enclosure = '"', $encloseAll = false, $nullToMysqlNull = false ) {
    $delimiter_esc = preg_quote($delimiter, '/');
    $enclosure_esc = preg_quote($enclosure, '/');

    $output = array();
    foreach ( $fields as $field ) {
        if ($field === null && $nullToMysqlNull) {
            $output[] = 'NULL';
            continue;
        }

        // Enclose fields containing $delimiter, $enclosure or whitespace
        if ( $encloseAll || preg_match( "/(?:${delimiter_esc}|${enclosure_esc}|\s)/", $field ) ) {
            $output[] = $enclosure . str_replace($enclosure, $enclosure . $enclosure, $field) . $enclosure;
        }
        else {
            $output[] = $field;
        }
    }

    return implode( $delimiter, $output );
}

And added this:

function a2c($array, $glue = "\n")
{
    $ret = [];
    foreach ($array as $item) {
        $ret[] = arrayToCsv($item);
    }
    return implode($glue, $ret);
}

So you can just call:

$csv = a2c($array);

If you want a special line ending you can use the optional parameter "glue" for this.

You are all good at Angular side even postman not raise the cors policy issue. This type of issue is solved at back-end side in major cases.

If you are using Spring boot the you can avoid this issue by placing this annotation at your controller class or at any particular method.

What is the origin of foo and bar?

tl;dr

  • "Foo" and "bar" as metasyntactic variables were popularised by MIT and DEC, the first references are in work on LISP and PDP-1 and Project MAC from 1964 onwards.

  • Many of these people were in MIT's Tech Model Railroad Club, where we find the first documented use of "foo" in tech circles in 1959 (and a variant in 1958).

  • Both "foo" and "bar" (and even "baz") were well known in popular culture, especially from Smokey Stover and Pogo comics, which will have been read by many TMRC members.

  • Also, it seems likely the military FUBAR contributed to their popularity.

The use of lone "foo" as a nonsense word is pretty well documented in popular culture in the early 20th century, as is the military FUBAR. (Some background reading: FOLDOC FOLDOC Jargon File Jargon File Wikipedia RFC3092)

OK, so let's find some references.

STOP PRESS! After posting this answer, I discovered this perfect article about "foo" in the Friday 14th January 1938 edition of The Tech ("MIT's oldest and largest newspaper & the first newspaper published on the web"), Volume LVII. No. 57, Price Three Cents:

On Foo-ism

The Lounger thinks that this business of Foo-ism has been carried too far by its misguided proponents, and does hereby and forthwith take his stand against its abuse. It may be that there's no foo like an old foo, and we're it, but anyway, a foo and his money are some party. (Voice from the bleachers- "Don't be foo-lish!")

As an expletive, of course, "foo!" has a definite and probably irreplaceable position in our language, although we fear that the excessive use to which it is currently subjected may well result in its falling into an early (and, alas, a dark) oblivion. We say alas because proper use of the word may result in such happy incidents as the following.

It was an 8.50 Thermodynamics lecture by Professor Slater in Room 6-120. The professor, having covered the front side of the blackboard, set the handle that operates the lift mechanism, turning meanwhile to the class to continue his discussion. The front board slowly, majestically, lifted itself, revealing the board behind it, and on that board, writ large, the symbols that spelled "FOO"!

The Tech newspaper, a year earlier, the Letter to the Editor, September 1937:

By the time the train has reached the station the neophytes are so filled with the stories of the glory of Phi Omicron Omicron, usually referred to as Foo, that they are easy prey.

...

It is not that I mind having lost my first four sons to the Grand and Universal Brotherhood of Phi Omicron Omicron, but I do wish that my fifth son, my baby, should at least be warned in advance.

Hopefully yours,

Indignant Mother of Five.

And The Tech in December 1938:

General trend of thought might be best interpreted from the remarks made at the end of the ballots. One vote said, '"I don't think what I do is any of Pulver's business," while another merely added a curt "Foo."

The first documented "foo" in tech circles is probably 1959's Dictionary of the TMRC Language:

FOO: the sacred syllable (FOO MANI PADME HUM); to be spoken only when under inspiration to commune with the Deity. Our first obligation is to keep the Foo Counters turning.

These are explained at FOLDOC. The dictionary's compiler Pete Samson said in 2005:

Use of this word at TMRC antedates my coming there. A foo counter could simply have randomly flashing lights, or could be a real counter with an obscure input.

And from 1996's Jargon File 4.0.0:

Earlier versions of this lexicon derived 'baz' as a Stanford corruption of bar. However, Pete Samson (compiler of the TMRC lexicon) reports it was already current when he joined TMRC in 1958. He says "It came from "Pogo". Albert the Alligator, when vexed or outraged, would shout 'Bazz Fazz!' or 'Rowrbazzle!' The club layout was said to model the (mythical) New England counties of Rowrfolk and Bassex (Rowrbazzle mingled with (Norfolk/Suffolk/Middlesex/Essex)."

A year before the TMRC dictionary, 1958's MIT Voo Doo Gazette ("Humor suplement of the MIT Deans' office") (PDF) mentions Foocom, in "The Laws of Murphy and Finagle" by John Banzhaf (an electrical engineering student):

Further research under a joint Foocom and Anarcom grant expanded the law to be all embracing and universally applicable: If anything can go wrong, it will!

Also 1964's MIT Voo Doo (PDF) references the TMRC usage:

Yes! I want to be an instant success and snow customers. Send me a degree in: ...

Let's find "foo", "bar" and "foobar" published in code examples.

So, Jargon File 4.4.7 says of "foobar":

Probably originally propagated through DECsystem manuals by Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) in 1960s and early 1970s; confirmed sightings there go back to 1972.

The first published reference I can find is from February 1964, but written in June 1963, The Programming Language LISP: its Operation and Applications by Information International, Inc., with many authors, but including Timothy P. Hart and Michael Levin:

Thus, since "FOO" is a name for itself, "COMITRIN" will treat both "FOO" and "(FOO)" in exactly the same way.

Also includes other metasyntactic variables such as: FOO CROCK GLITCH / POOT TOOR / ON YOU / SNAP CRACKLE POP / X Y Z

I expect this is much the same as this next reference of "foo" from MIT's Project MAC in January 1964's AIM-064, or LISP Exercises by Timothy P. Hart and Michael Levin:

car[((FOO . CROCK) . GLITCH)]

It shares many other metasyntactic variables like: CHI / BOSTON NEW YORK / SPINACH BUTTER STEAK / FOO CROCK GLITCH / POOT TOOP / TOOT TOOT / ISTHISATRIVIALEXCERCISE / PLOOP FLOT TOP / SNAP CRACKLE POP / ONE TWO THREE / PLANE SUB THRESHER

For both "foo" and "bar" together, the earliest reference I could find is from MIT's Project MAC in June 1966's AIM-098, or PDP-6 LISP by none other than Peter Samson:

EXPLODE, like PRIN1, inserts slashes, so (EXPLODE (QUOTE FOO/ BAR)) PRIN1's as (F O O // / B A R) or PRINC's as (F O O / B A R).

Some more recallations.

@Walter Mitty recalled on this site in 2008:

I second the jargon file regarding Foo Bar. I can trace it back at least to 1963, and PDP-1 serial number 2, which was on the second floor of Building 26 at MIT. Foo and Foo Bar were used there, and after 1964 at the PDP-6 room at project MAC.

John V. Everett recalls in 1996:

When I joined DEC in 1966, foobar was already being commonly used as a throw-away file name. I believe fubar became foobar because the PDP-6 supported six character names, although I always assumed the term migrated to DEC from MIT. There were many MIT types at DEC in those days, some of whom had worked with the 7090/7094 CTSS. Since the 709x was also a 36 bit machine, foobar may have been used as a common file name there.

Foo and bar were also commonly used as file extensions. Since the text editors of the day operated on an input file and produced an output file, it was common to edit from a .foo file to a .bar file, and back again.

It was also common to use foo to fill a buffer when editing with TECO. The text string to exactly fill one disk block was IFOO$HXA127GA$$. Almost all of the PDP-6/10 programmers I worked with used this same command string.

Daniel P. B. Smith in 1998:

Dick Gruen had a device in his dorm room, the usual assemblage of B-battery, resistors, capacitors, and NE-2 neon tubes, which he called a "foo counter." This would have been circa 1964 or so.

Robert Schuldenfrei in 1996:

The use of FOO and BAR as example variable names goes back at least to 1964 and the IBM 7070. This too may be older, but that is where I first saw it. This was in Assembler. What would be the FORTRAN integer equivalent? IFOO and IBAR?

Paul M. Wexelblat in 1992:

The earliest PDP-1 Assembler used two characters for symbols (18 bit machine) programmers always left a few words as patch space to fix problems. (Jump to patch space, do new code, jump back) That space conventionally was named FU: which stood for Fxxx Up, the place where you fixed Fxxx Ups. When spoken, it was known as FU space. Later Assemblers ( e.g. MIDAS allowed three char tags so FU became FOO, and as ALL PDP-1 programmers will tell you that was FOO space.

Bruce B. Reynolds in 1996:

On the IBM side of FOO(FU)BAR is the use of the BAR side as Base Address Register; in the middle 1970's CICS programmers had to worry out the various xxxBARs...I think one of those was FRACTBAR...

Here's a straight IBM "BAR" from 1955.

Other early references:

I haven't been able to find any references to foo bar as "inverted foo signal" as suggested in RFC3092 and elsewhere.

Here are a some of even earlier F00s but I think they're coincidences/false positives:

How do I keep the screen on in my App?

Lots of answers already exist here! I am answering this question with additional and reliable solutions:

Using PowerManager.WakeLock is not so reliable a solution, as the app requires additional permissions.

<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.WAKE_LOCK" />

Also, if it accidentally remains holding the wake lock, it can leave the screen on.

So, I recommend not using the PowerManager.WakeLock solution. Instead of this, use any of the following solutions:

First:

We can use getWindow().addFlags(WindowManager.LayoutParams.FLAG_KEEP_SCREEN_ON); in onCreate()

@Override
        protected void onCreate(Bundle icicle) {
            super.onCreate(icicle);
            getWindow().addFlags(WindowManager.LayoutParams.FLAG_KEEP_SCREEN_ON);
        }

Second:

we can use keepScreenOn

1. implementation using setKeepScreenOn() in java code:

@Override
    protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
        // TODO Auto-generated method stub
        super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
        View v = getLayoutInflater().inflate(R.layout.driver_home, null);// or any View (incase generated programmatically )
        v.setKeepScreenOn(true);
        setContentView(v);
       }

Docs http://developer.android.com/reference/android/view/View.html#setKeepScreenOn(boolean)

2. Adding keepScreenOn to xml layout

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
    android:layout_width="fill_parent"
    android:layout_height="fill_parent"
    android:keepScreenOn="true" >

Docs http://developer.android.com/reference/android/view/View.html#attr_android%3akeepScreenOn

Notes (some useful points):

  1. It doesn't matter that keepScreenOn should be used on a Main/Root/Parent View. It can be used with any child view and will work the same way it works in a parent view.
  2. The only thing that matters is that the view's visibility must be visible. Otherwise, it will not work!

Fastest method of screen capturing on Windows

DXGI Desktop Capture

Project that captures the desktop image with DXGI duplication. Saves the captured image to the file in different image formats (*.bmp; *.jpg; *.tif).

This sample is written in C++. You also need some experience with DirectX (D3D11, D2D1).

What the Application Can Do

  • If you have more than one desktop monitor, you can choose.
  • Resize the captured desktop image.
  • Choose different scaling modes.
  • You can show or hide the mouse icon in the output image.
  • You can rotate the image for the output picture, or leave it as default.

What's the difference between emulation and simulation?

I do not know whether this is the general opinion, but I've always differentiated the two by what they are used for. An emulator is used if you actually want to use the emulated machine for its output. A simulator, on the other hand, is for when you want to study the simulated machine or test its behaviour.

For example, if you want to write some state machine logic in your application (which is running on a general purpose CPU), you write a small state machine emulator. If you want to study the efficiency or viability of a state machine for a particular problem, you write a simulator.

Copy data from another Workbook through VBA

Are you looking for the syntax to open them:

When must we use NVARCHAR/NCHAR instead of VARCHAR/CHAR in SQL Server?

Josh says: "....Something to keep in mind when you are using Unicode although you can store different languages in a single column you can only sort using a single collation. There are some languages that use latin characters but do not sort like other latin languages. Accents is a good example of this, I can't remeber the example but there was a eastern european language whose Y didn't sort like the English Y. Then there is the spanish ch which spanish users expet to be sorted after h."

I'm a native Spanish Speaker and "ch" is not a letter but two "c" and "h" and the Spanish alphabet is like: abcdefghijklmn ñ opqrstuvwxyz We don't expect "ch" after "h" but "i" The alphabet is the same as in English except for the ñ or in HTML "&ntilde ;"

How to give the background-image path in CSS?

There are two basic ways:

url(../../images/image.png)

or

url(/Web/images/image.png)

I prefer the latter, as it's easier to work with and works from all locations in the site (so useful for inline image paths too).

Mind you, I wouldn't do so much deep nesting of folders. It seems unnecessary and makes life a bit difficult, as you've found.

Overlapping elements in CSS

You can use relative positioning to overlap your elements. However, the space they would normally occupy will still be reserved for the element:

<div style="background-color:#f00;width:200px;height:100px;">
    DEFAULT POSITIONED
</div>
<div style="background-color:#0f0;width:200px;height:100px;position:relative;top:-50px;left:50px;">
    RELATIVE POSITIONED
</div>
<div style="background-color:#00f;width:200px;height:100px;">
    DEFAULT POSITIONED
</div>

In the example above, there will be a block of white space between the two 'DEFAULT POSITIONED' elements. This is caused, because the 'RELATIVE POSITIONED' element still has it's space reserved.

If you use absolute positioning, your elements will not have any space reserved, so your element will actually overlap, without breaking your document:

<div style="background-color:#f00;width:200px;height:100px;">
    DEFAULT POSITIONED
</div>
<div style="background-color:#0f0;width:200px;height:100px;position:absolute;top:50px;left:50px;">
    ABSOLUTE POSITIONED
</div>
<div style="background-color:#00f;width:200px;height:100px;">
    DEFAULT POSITIONED
</div>

Finally, you can control which elements are on top of the others by using z-index:

<div style="z-index:10;background-color:#f00;width:200px;height:100px;">
    DEFAULT POSITIONED
</div>
<div style="z-index:5;background-color:#0f0;width:200px;height:100px;position:absolute;top:50px;left:50px;">
    ABSOLUTE POSITIONED
</div>
<div style="z-index:0;background-color:#00f;width:200px;height:100px;">
    DEFAULT POSITIONED
</div>

What’s the difference between "Array()" and "[]" while declaring a JavaScript array?

There is a difference, but there is no difference in that example.

Using the more verbose method: new Array() does have one extra option in the parameters: if you pass a number to the constructor, you will get an array of that length:

x = new Array(5);
alert(x.length); // 5

To illustrate the different ways to create an array:

var a = [],            // these are the same
    b = new Array(),   // a and b are arrays with length 0

    c = ['foo', 'bar'], // these are the same
    d = new Array('foo', 'bar'),  // c and d are arrays with 2 strings

    // these are different:
    e = [3]             // e.length == 1, e[0] == 3
    f = new Array(3),   // f.length == 3, f[0] == undefined

;

Another difference is that when using new Array() you're able to set the size of the array, which affects the stack size. This can be useful if you're getting stack overflows (Performance of Array.push vs Array.unshift) which is what happens when the size of the array exceeds the size of the stack, and it has to be re-created. So there can actually, depending on the use case, be a performance increase when using new Array() because you can prevent the overflow from happening.

As pointed out in this answer, new Array(5) will not actually add five undefined items to the array. It simply adds space for five items. Be aware that using Array this way makes it difficult to rely on array.length for calculations.

Best practices for copying files with Maven

Well, maven is not supposed to be good in doing fine granular tasks, it is not a scripting language like bash or ant, it is rather declarative - you say - i need a war, or an ear, and you get it. However if you need to customize how the war or ear should look like inside, you have a problem. It is just not procedural like ant, but declarative. This have some pros in the beginning, and could have a lot of cons at the end.

I guess the initial concept was to have fine plugins, that "just work" but the reality is different if you do non-standard stuff.

If you however put enough effort in your poms and few custom plugins, you'll get a much better build environment as with ant for example (depends on you project of course, but it gets more and more true for bigger projects).

How to iterate over a JSONObject?

for my case i found iterating the names() works well

for(int i = 0; i<jobject.names().length(); i++){

How to get a JavaScript object's class?

obj.constructor.name

is a reliable method in modern browsers. Function.name was officially added to the standard in ES6, making this a standards-compliant means of getting the "class" of a JavaScript object as a string. If the object is instantiated with var obj = new MyClass(), it will return "MyClass".

It will return "Number" for numbers, "Array" for arrays and "Function" for functions, etc. It generally behaves as expected. The only cases where it fails are if an object is created without a prototype, via Object.create( null ), or the object was instantiated from an anonymously-defined (unnamed) function.

Also note that if you are minifying your code, it's not safe to compare against hard-coded type strings. For example instead of checking if obj.constructor.name == "MyType", instead check obj.constructor.name == MyType.name. Or just compare the constructors themselves, however this won't work across DOM boundaries as there are different instances of the constructor function on each DOM, thus doing an object comparison on their constructors won't work.

Convert Xml to Table SQL Server

This is the answer, hope it helps someone :)

First there are two variations on how the xml can be written:

1

<row>
    <IdInvernadero>8</IdInvernadero>
    <IdProducto>3</IdProducto>
    <IdCaracteristica1>8</IdCaracteristica1>
    <IdCaracteristica2>8</IdCaracteristica2>
    <Cantidad>25</Cantidad>
    <Folio>4568457</Folio>
</row>
<row>
    <IdInvernadero>3</IdInvernadero>
    <IdProducto>3</IdProducto>
    <IdCaracteristica1>1</IdCaracteristica1>
    <IdCaracteristica2>2</IdCaracteristica2>
    <Cantidad>72</Cantidad>
    <Folio>4568457</Folio>
</row>

Answer:

SELECT
       Tbl.Col.value('IdInvernadero[1]', 'smallint'),
       Tbl.Col.value('IdProducto[1]', 'smallint'),
       Tbl.Col.value('IdCaracteristica1[1]', 'smallint'),
       Tbl.Col.value('IdCaracteristica2[1]', 'smallint'),

       Tbl.Col.value('Folio[1]', 'varchar(7)')
FROM   @xml.nodes('//row') Tbl(Col)

2.

<row IdInvernadero="8" IdProducto="3" IdCaracteristica1="8" IdCaracteristica2="8" Cantidad ="25" Folio="4568457" />
<row IdInvernadero="3" IdProducto="3" IdCaracteristica1="1" IdCaracteristica2="2" Cantidad ="72" Folio="4568457" />

How to put a tooltip on a user-defined function

A lot of dancing around the answer. You can add the UDF context help, but you have to export the Module and edit the contents in a text editor, then re-import it to VBA. Here's the example from Chip Pearson: Adding Code Attributes

How to load/reference a file as a File instance from the classpath

I find this one-line code as most efficient and useful:

What does print(... sep='', '\t' ) mean?

sep='' in the context of a function call sets the named argument sep to an empty string. See the print() function; sep is the separator used between multiple values when printing. The default is a space (sep=' '), this function call makes sure that there is no space between Property tax: $ and the formatted tax floating point value.

Compare the output of the following three print() calls to see the difference

>>> print('foo', 'bar')
foo bar
>>> print('foo', 'bar', sep='')
foobar
>>> print('foo', 'bar', sep=' -> ')
foo -> bar

All that changed is the sep argument value.

\t in a string literal is an escape sequence for tab character, horizontal whitespace, ASCII codepoint 9.

\t is easier to read and type than the actual tab character. See the table of recognized escape sequences for string literals.

Using a space or a \t tab as a print separator shows the difference:

>>> print('eggs', 'ham')
eggs ham
>>> print('eggs', 'ham', sep='\t')
eggs    ham

Using pg_dump to only get insert statements from one table within database

How can I align the columns of tables in Bash?

To have the exact same output as you need, you need to format the file like that :

a very long string..........\t     112232432\t     anotherfield\n
a smaller string\t      123124343\t     anotherfield\n

And then using :

$ column -t -s $'\t' FILE
a very long string.......... 112232432 anotherfield
a smaller string              123124343  anotherfield

Can't bind to 'routerLink' since it isn't a known property

I am running tests for my Angular app and encountered error Can't bind to 'routerLink' since it isn't a known property of 'a' as well.

I thought it might be useful to show my Angular dependencies:

    "@angular/animations": "^8.2.14",
    "@angular/common": "^8.2.14",
    "@angular/compiler": "^8.2.14",
    "@angular/core": "^8.2.14",
    "@angular/forms": "^8.2.14",
    "@angular/router": "^8.2.14",

The issue was in my spec file. I compared to another similar component spec file and found that I was missing RouterTestingModule in imports, e.g.

    TestBed.configureTestingModule({
      declarations: [
        ...
      ],
      imports: [ReactiveFormsModule, HttpClientTestingModule, RouterTestingModule],
      providers: [...]
    });
  });

How do I extract specific 'n' bits of a 32-bit unsigned integer in C?

If you want n bits specific then you could first create a bitmask and then AND it with your number to take the desired bits.

Simple function to create mask from bit a to bit b.

unsigned createMask(unsigned a, unsigned b)
{
   unsigned r = 0;
   for (unsigned i=a; i<=b; i++)
       r |= 1 << i;

   return r;
}

You should check that a<=b.

If you want bits 12 to 16 call the function and then simply & (logical AND) r with your number N

r = createMask(12,16);
unsigned result = r & N;

If you want you can shift the result. Hope this helps

How to insert a column in a specific position in oracle without dropping and recreating the table?

In 12c you can make use of the fact that columns which are set from invisible to visible are displayed as the last column of the table: Tips and Tricks: Invisible Columns in Oracle Database 12c

Maybe that is the 'trick' @jeffrey-kemp was talking about in his comment, but the link there does not work anymore.

Example:

ALTER TABLE my_tab ADD (col_3 NUMBER(10));
ALTER TABLE my_tab MODIFY (
  col_1 invisible,
  col_2 invisible
);
ALTER TABLE my_tab MODIFY (
  col_1 visible,
  col_2 visible
);

Now col_3 would be displayed first in a SELECT * FROM my_tab statement.

Note: This does not change the physical order of the columns on disk, but in most cases that is not what you want to do anyway. If you really want to change the physical order, you can use the DBMS_REDEFINITION package.

Python: pandas merge multiple dataframes

AJAX cross domain call

JSONP is the best option, in my opinion. Try to figure out why you get the syntax error - are you sure the received data is not JSON? Then maybe you're using the API wrong somehow.

Another way you could use, but I don't think that it applies in your case, is have an iFrame in the page which src is in the domain you want to call. Have it do the calls for you, and then use JS to communicate between the iFrame and the page. This will bypass the cross domain, but only if you can have the iFrame's src in the domain you want to call.

How to initialize an array's length in JavaScript?

(this was probably better as a comment, but got too long)

So, after reading this I was curious if pre-allocating was actually faster, because in theory it should be. However, this blog gave some tips advising against it http://www.html5rocks.com/en/tutorials/speed/v8/.

So still being unsure, I put it to the test. And as it turns out it seems to in fact be slower.

var time = Date.now();
var temp = [];
for(var i=0;i<100000;i++){
    temp[i]=i;
}
console.log(Date.now()-time);

var time = Date.now();
var temp2 = new Array(100000);
for(var i=0;i<100000;i++){
    temp2[i] = i;
}
console.log(Date.now()-time);

This code yields the following after a few casual runs:

$ node main.js

$('.dolor_spec').each(function(){ //do stuff

And why has no one given .find() as an answer?

There is also classList for non-IE browsers:

Ignore Duplicates and Create New List of Unique Values in Excel

So for this task First Sort your data in order from A to Z or Z to A then you can just use one simple formula as stated below:

=IF(A2=A3, "Duplicate", "Not Duplicate")

The above formula states that if column A2 data ( A is column and 2 is row number) is similar to A3 (A is Column and 3 is Row number) then it will print Duplicate else will print Not Duplicate.

Lets consider an example, Column A consists Email address in which some are duplicate, so in Column 2, I used the above stated formula which in results displayed me the 2 duplicates cells one is Row 2 and Row 6.

One you got the duplicate data just put filter on your sheet and make visible only the duplicate data and delete all the unnecessary data.

What is the difference between CloseableHttpClient and HttpClient in Apache HttpClient API?

Jon skeet said:

The documentation seems pretty clear to me: "Base implementation of HttpClient that also implements Closeable" - HttpClient is an interface; CloseableHttpClient is an abstract class, but because it implements AutoCloseable you can use it in a try-with-resources statement.

But then Jules asked:

@JonSkeet That much is clear, but how important is it to close HttpClient instances? If it's important, why is the close() method not part of the basic interface?

Answer for Jules

close need not be part of basic interface since underlying connection is released back to the connection manager automatically after every execute

To accommodate the try-with-resources statement. It is mandatory to implement Closeable. Hence included it in CloseableHttpClient.

Note:

close method in AbstractHttpClient which is extending CloseableHttpClient is deprecated, I was not able to find the source code for that.

python: sys is not defined

You're trying to import all of those modules at once. Even if one of them fails, the rest will not import. For example:

try:
    import datetime
    import foo
    import sys
except ImportError:
    pass

Let's say foo doesn't exist. Then only datetime will be imported.

What you can do is import the sys module at the beginning of the file, before the try/except statement:

import sys
try:
    import numpy as np
    import pyfits as pf
    import scipy.ndimage as nd
    import pylab as pl
    import os
    import heapq
    from scipy.optimize import leastsq

except ImportError:
    print "Error: missing one of the libraries (numpy, pyfits, scipy, matplotlib)"
    sys.exit()

Rebasing remote branches in Git

It comes down to whether the feature is used by one person or if others are working off of it.

You can force the push after the rebase if it's just you:

git push origin feature -f

However, if others are working on it, you should merge and not rebase off of master.

git merge master
git push origin feature

This will ensure that you have a common history with the people you are collaborating with.

On a different level, you should not be doing back-merges. What you are doing is polluting your feature branch's history with other commits that don't belong to the feature, making subsequent work with that branch more difficult - rebasing or not.

This is my article on the subject called branch per feature.

Hope this helps.

How to get current working directory using vba?

You have several options depending on what you're looking for. Workbook.Path returns the path of a saved workbook. Application.Path returns the path to the Excel executable. CurDir returns the current working path, this probably defaults to your My Documents folder or similar.

You can also use the windows scripting shell object's .CurrentDirectory property.

Set wshell = CreateObject("WScript.Shell")
Debug.Print wshell.CurrentDirectory

But that should get the same result as just

Debug.Print CurDir

200 PORT command successful. Consider using PASV. 425 Failed to establish connection

You are using the FTP in an active mode.

Setting up the FTP in the active mode can be cumbersome nowadays due to firewalls and NATs.

It's likely because of your local firewall or NAT that the server was not able to connect back to your client to establish data transfer connection.

Or your client is not aware of its external IP address and provides an internal address instead to the server (in PORT command), which the server is obviously not able to use. But it should not be the case, as vsftpd by default rejects data transfer address not identical to source address of FTP control connection (the port_promiscuous directive).

See my article Network Configuration for Active Mode.

If possible, you should use a passive mode as it typically requires no additional setup on a client-side. That's also what the server suggested you by "Consider using PASV". The PASV is an FTP command used to enter the passive mode.

Unfortunately Windows FTP command-line client (the ftp.exe) does not support passive mode at all. It makes it pretty useless nowadays.

Use any other 3rd party Windows FTP command-line client instead. Most other support the passive mode.

For example WinSCP FTP client defaults to the passive mode and there's a guide available for converting Windows FTP script to WinSCP script.

What is the purpose of shuffling and sorting phase in the reducer in Map Reduce Programming?

Well, In Mapreduce there are two important phrases called Mapper and reducer both are too important, but Reducer is mandatory. In some programs reducers are optional. Now come to your question. Shuffling and sorting are two important operations in Mapreduce. First Hadoop framework takes structured/unstructured data and separate the data into Key, Value.

Now Mapper program separate and arrange the data into keys and values to be processed. Generate Key 2 and value 2 values. This values should process and re arrange in proper order to get desired solution. Now this shuffle and sorting done in your local system (Framework take care it) and process in local system after process framework cleanup the data in local system. Ok

Here we use combiner and partition also to optimize this shuffle and sort process. After proper arrangement, those key values passes to Reducer to get desired Client's output. Finally Reducer get desired output.

K1, V1 -> K2, V2 (we will write program Mapper), -> K2, V' (here shuffle and soft the data) -> K3, V3 Generate the output. K4,V4.

Please note all these steps are logical operation only, not change the original data.

Your question: What is the purpose of shuffling and sorting phase in the reducer in Map Reduce Programming?

Short answer: To process the data to get desired output. Shuffling is aggregate the data, reduce is get expected output.

What is a serialVersionUID and why should I use it?

The docs for java.io.Serializable are probably about as good an explanation as you'll get:

The serialization runtime associates with each serializable class a version number, called a serialVersionUID, which is used during deserialization to verify that the sender and receiver of a serialized object have loaded classes for that object that are compatible with respect to serialization. If the receiver has loaded a class for the object that has a different serialVersionUID than that of the corresponding sender's class, then deserialization will result in an InvalidClassException. A serializable class can declare its own serialVersionUID explicitly by declaring a field named serialVersionUID that must be static, final, and of type long:

ANY-ACCESS-MODIFIER static final long serialVersionUID = 42L;

If a serializable class does not explicitly declare a serialVersionUID, then the serialization runtime will calculate a default serialVersionUID value for that class based on various aspects of the class, as described in the Java(TM) Object Serialization Specification. However, it is strongly recommended that all serializable classes explicitly declare serialVersionUID values, since the default serialVersionUID computation is highly sensitive to class details that may vary depending on compiler implementations, and can thus result in unexpected InvalidClassExceptions during deserialization. Therefore, to guarantee a consistent serialVersionUID value across different java compiler implementations, a serializable class must declare an explicit serialVersionUID value. It is also strongly advised that explicit serialVersionUID declarations use the private modifier where possible, since such declarations apply only to the immediately declaring class — serialVersionUID fields are not useful as inherited members.

How do I capture SIGINT in Python?

And as a context manager:

import signal

class GracefulInterruptHandler(object):

    def __init__(self, sig=signal.SIGINT):
        self.sig = sig

    def __enter__(self):

        self.interrupted = False
        self.released = False

        self.original_handler = signal.getsignal(self.sig)

        def handler(signum, frame):
            self.release()
            self.interrupted = True

        signal.signal(self.sig, handler)

        return self

    def __exit__(self, type, value, tb):
        self.release()

    def release(self):

        if self.released:
            return False

        signal.signal(self.sig, self.original_handler)

        self.released = True

        return True

To use:

with GracefulInterruptHandler() as h:
    for i in xrange(1000):
        print "..."
        time.sleep(1)
        if h.interrupted:
            print "interrupted!"
            time.sleep(2)
            break

Nested handlers:

with GracefulInterruptHandler() as h1:
    while True:
        print "(1)..."
        time.sleep(1)
        with GracefulInterruptHandler() as h2:
            while True:
                print "\t(2)..."
                time.sleep(1)
                if h2.interrupted:
                    print "\t(2) interrupted!"
                    time.sleep(2)
                    break
        if h1.interrupted:

How do I login and authenticate to Postgresql after a fresh install?

If your database client connects with TCP/IP and you have ident auth configured in your pg_hba.conf check that you have an identd installed and running. This is mandatory even if you have only local clients connecting to "localhost".

Also beware that nowadays the identd may have to be IPv6 enabled for Postgresql to welcome clients which connect to localhost.

Virtualbox "port forward" from Guest to Host

That's not possible. localhost always defaults to the loopback device on the local operating system.
As your virtual machine runs its own operating system it has its own loopback device which you cannot access from the outside.

If you want to access it e.g. in a browser, connect to it using the local IP instead:

http://192.168.180.1:8000

This is just an example of course, you can find out the actual IP by issuing an ifconfig command on a shell in the guest operating system.

Yes, definietly requests is great package to use in something related to HTTP requests. but we need to be careful with the encoding type of the incoming data as well below is an example which explains the difference

from requests import get

# case when the response is byte array
url = 'some_image_url'

response = get(url)
with open('output', 'wb') as file:
    file.write(response.content)

# case when the response is text
# Here unlikely if the reponse content is of type **iso-8859-1** we will have to override the response encoding
url = 'some_page_url'

response = get(url)
# override encoding by real educated guess as provided by chardet
r.encoding = r.apparent_encoding

with open('output', 'w', encoding='utf-8') as file:
    file.write(response.content)

Getting URL parameter in java and extract a specific text from that URL

I believe we have a better approach to answer this question.

1: Define a function that returns Map values.

Here we go.

public Map<String, String> getUrlValues(String url) throws UnsupportedEncodingException {
    int i = url.indexOf("?");
    Map<String, String> paramsMap = new HashMap<>();
    if (i > -1) {
        String searchURL = url.substring(url.indexOf("?") + 1);
        String params[] = searchURL.split("&");

        for (String param : params) {
            String temp[] = param.split("=");
            paramsMap.put(temp[0], java.net.URLDecoder.decode(temp[1], "UTF-8"));
        }
    }

    return paramsMap;
}

2: Call your function surrounding with a try catch block

Here we go

try {
     Map<String, String> values = getUrlValues("https://example.com/index.php?form_id=9&page=1&view_id=78");
     String formId = values.get("form_id");
     String page = values.get("page");
     String viewId = values.get("view_id");
     Log.d("FormID", formId);
     Log.d("Page", page);
     Log.d("ViewID", viewId);
} catch (UnsupportedEncodingException e) {
     Log.e("Error", e.getMessage());
}

jQuery - disable selected options

Add this line to your change event handler

    $("#theSelect option:selected").attr('disabled','disabled')
        .siblings().removeAttr('disabled');

This will disable the selected option, and enable any previously disabled options.

EDIT:

If you did not want to re-enable the previous ones, just remove this part of the line:

        .siblings().removeAttr('disabled');

EDIT:

http://jsfiddle.net/pd5Nk/1/

To re-enable when you click remove, add this to your click handler.

$("#theSelect option[value=" + value + "]").removeAttr('disabled');

What exactly is the difference between Web API and REST API in MVC?

ASP.NET Web API is a framework that makes it easy to build HTTP services that reach a broad range of clients, including browsers and mobile devices. ASP.NET Web API is an ideal platform for building RESTful applications on the .NET Framework.

REST

RESTs sweet spot is when you are exposing a public API over the internet to handle CRUD operations on data. REST is focused on accessing named resources through a single consistent interface.

SOAP

SOAP brings it’s own protocol and focuses on exposing pieces of application logic (not data) as services. SOAP exposes operations. SOAP is focused on accessing named operations, each implement some business logic through different interfaces.

Though SOAP is commonly referred to as “web services” this is a misnomer. SOAP has very little if anything to do with the Web. REST provides true “Web services” based on URIs and HTTP.

Reference: http://spf13.com/post/soap-vs-rest

And finally: What they could be referring to is REST vs. RPC See this: http://encosia.com/rest-vs-rpc-in-asp-net-web-api-who-cares-it-does-both/

Update multiple tables in SQL Server using INNER JOIN

You can update with a join if you only affect one table like this:

UPDATE table1
SET table1.name = table2.name
FROM table1, table2
WHERE table1.id = table2.id
AND table2.foobar ='stuff'

But you are trying to affect multiple tables with an update statement that joins on multiple tables. That is not possible.

However, updating two tables in one statement is actually possible but will need to create a View using a UNION that contains both the tables you want to update. You can then update the View which will then update the underlying tables.

SQL JOINS

But this is a really hacky parlor trick, use the transaction and multiple updates, it's much more intuitive.

How to get current time and date in Android

For 12 hour clock with suffix "AM" or "PM" :-

DateFormat df = new SimpleDateFormat("KK:mm:ss a, dd/MM/yyyy",Locale.getDefault());
        String currentDateAndTime = df.format(new Date());

For 24 hour clock with suffix "AM" or "PM":-

 DateFormat df = new SimpleDateFormat("HH:mm:ss a, dd/MM/yyyy",Locale.getDefault());
            String currentDateAndTime = df.format(new Date());

to remove the suffix just remove "a" written with time format

how to find my angular version in my project?

try this command :

ng --version

It prints out Angular, Angular CLI, Node, Typescript versions etc.

Which version of C# am I using

The language version is chosen based on the project's target framework by default.

Each project may use a different version of .Net framework, the best suitable C# compiler will be chosen by default by looking at the target framework. From visual studio, UI will not allow the users to changes the language version, however, we can change the language version by editing the project file with addition of new property group. But this may cause compile/run time issues in existing code.

<PropertyGroup>
<LangVersion>8.0</LangVersion>
</PropertyGroup>

I could see the following from Microsoft docs.

The compiler determines a default based on these rules:

Target framework version C# language version default
.NET Core           3.x         C# 8.0
.NET Core           2.x         C# 7.3
.NET Standard       2.1         C# 8.0
.NET Standard       2.0         C# 7.3
.NET Standard       1.x         C# 7.3
.NET Framework      all         C# 7.3

How do I validate a date string format in python?

from datetime import datetime

datetime.strptime(date_string, "%Y-%m-%d")

..this raises a ValueError if it receives an incompatible format.

..if you're dealing with dates and times a lot (in the sense of datetime objects, as opposed to unix timestamp floats), it's a good idea to look into the pytz module, and for storage/db, store everything in UTC.

How to generate XML file dynamically using PHP?

With FluidXML you can generate your XML very easly.

$tracks = fluidxml('xml');

$tracks->times(8, function ($i) {
    $this->add([
        'track' => [
            'path'  => "song{$i}.mp3",

Apply style to only first level of td tags

Is there a way to apply a Class' style to only ONE level of td tags?

Yes*:

.MyClass>tbody>tr>td { border: solid 1px red; }

But! The ‘>’ direct-child selector does not work in IE6. If you need to support that browser (which you probably do, alas), all you can do is select the inner element separately and un-set the style:

.MyClass td { border: solid 1px red; }
.MyClass td td { border: none; }

*Note that the first example references a tbody element not found in your HTML. It should have been in your HTML, but browsers are generally ok with leaving it out... they just add it in behind the scenes.

Most recent previous business day in Python

DISCLAMER: I'm the author...

I wrote a package that does exactly this, business dates calculations. You can use custom week specification and holidays.

I had this exact problem while working with financial data and didn't find any of the available solutions particularly easy, so I wrote one.

Hope this is useful for other people.

Calling Python in PHP

Depending on what you are doing, system() or popen() may be perfect. Use system() if the Python script has no output, or if you want the Python script's output to go directly to the browser. Use popen() if you want to write data to the Python script's standard input, or read data from the Python script's standard output in php. popen() will only let you read or write, but not both. If you want both, check out proc_open(), but with two way communication between programs you need to be careful to avoid deadlocks, where each program is waiting for the other to do something.

If you want to pass user supplied data to the Python script, then the big thing to be careful about is command injection. If you aren't careful, your user could send you data like "; evilcommand ;" and make your program execute arbitrary commands against your will.

escapeshellarg() and escapeshellcmd() can help with this, but personally I like to remove everything that isn't a known good character, using something like

preg_replace('/[^a-zA-Z0-9]/', '', $str)

How do I retrieve my MySQL username and password?

Login MySql from windows cmd using existing user:

mysql -u username -p
Enter password:****

Then run the following command:

mysql> SELECT * FROM mysql.user;

After that copy encrypted md5 password for corresponding user and there are several online password decrypted application available in web. Using this decrypt password and use this for login in next time. or update user password using flowing command:

mysql> UPDATE mysql.user SET Password=PASSWORD('[password]') WHERE User='[username]';

Then login using the new password and user.

SQL Joins Vs SQL Subqueries (Performance)?

I would EXPECT the first query to be quicker, mainly because you have an equivalence and an explicit JOIN. In my experience IN is a very slow operator, since SQL normally evaluates it as a series of WHERE clauses separated by "OR" (WHERE x=Y OR x=Z OR...).

As with ALL THINGS SQL though, your mileage may vary. The speed will depend a lot on indexes (do you have indexes on both ID columns? That will help a lot...) among other things.

The only REAL way to tell with 100% certainty which is faster is to turn on performance tracking (IO Statistics is especially useful) and run them both. Make sure to clear your cache between runs!

Algorithm to randomly generate an aesthetically-pleasing color palette

In javascript:

    var g = (Math.round(Math.random()* 127) + 127).toString(16);
    var b = (Math.round(Math.random()* 127) + 127).toString(16);
    return '#' + r + g + b;
}

Adding additional data to select options using jQuery

To me, it sounds like you want to create a new attribute? Do you want

<option value="2" value2="somethingElse">...

To do this, you can do

$(your selector).attr('value2', 'the value');

And then to retrieve it, you can use

$(your selector).attr('value2')

It's not going to be valid code, but I guess it does the job.

Expected BEGIN_ARRAY but was BEGIN_OBJECT at line 1 column 2

You state in the comments that the returned JSON is this:

{
  "dstOffset" : 3600,
  "rawOffset" : 36000,
  "status" : "OK",
  "timeZoneId" : "Australia/Hobart",
  "timeZoneName" : "Australian Eastern Daylight Time"
}

You're telling Gson that you have an array of Post objects:

List<Post> postsList = Arrays.asList(gson.fromJson(reader,
                    Post[].class));

You don't. The JSON represents exactly one Post object, and Gson is telling you that.

Change your code to be:

Post post = gson.fromJson(reader, Post.class);

How to check list A contains any value from list B?

Sorry, if this is irelevant, but will return list with matches using FindAll() in case you need this:

        private bool IsContain(string cont)
    {
        List<string> ListToMatch= new List<string>() {"string1","string2"};

        if (ListToMatch.ToArray().Any(cont.Contains))
        {
            return false;
        }
        else
            return true;
    }

And usage:

List<string> ListToCheck = new List<string>() {"string1","string2","string3","string4"};
List<string> FinalList = ListToCheck.FindAll(IsContain);

The final list contains only the matched elements string1 and string2 from list to check. Can easy be switched to int List.

CSS: transition opacity on mouse-out?

Set Content-Type to application/json in jsp file

You can do via Page directive.

For example:

<%@ page language="java" contentType="application/json; charset=UTF-8"
    pageEncoding="UTF-8"%>
  • contentType="mimeType [ ;charset=characterSet ]" | "text/html;charset=ISO-8859-1"

The MIME type and character encoding the JSP file uses for the response it sends to the client. You can use any MIME type or character set that are valid for the JSP container. The default MIME type is text/html, and the default character set is ISO-8859-1.

C# Linq Group By on multiple columns

var consolidatedChildren =
    from c in children
    group c by new
    {
        c.School,
        c.Friend,
        c.FavoriteColor,
    } into gcs
    select new ConsolidatedChild()
    {
        School = gcs.Key.School,
        Friend = gcs.Key.Friend,
        FavoriteColor = gcs.Key.FavoriteColor,
        Children = gcs.ToList(),
    };

var consolidatedChildren =
    children
        .GroupBy(c => new
        {
            c.School,
            c.Friend,
            c.FavoriteColor,
        })
        .Select(gcs => new ConsolidatedChild()
        {
            School = gcs.Key.School,
            Friend = gcs.Key.Friend,
            FavoriteColor = gcs.Key.FavoriteColor,
            Children = gcs.ToList(),
        });

Insert image after each list item

Try this:

ul li a:after {
    display: block;
    content: "";
    width: 3px;
    height: 5px;
    background: transparent url('../images/small_triangle.png') no-repeat;
}

You need the content: ""; declaration to give your generated element content, even if that content is "nothing".

Also, I fixed the syntax/ordering of your background declaration.

Why is the Visual Studio 2015/2017/2019 Test Runner not discovering my xUnit v2 tests

I am using xUnit 2.2.0.

My issue was my solution was not able to find certain dlls and app.config was trying to resolve them. The error was not showing up in the test output window in Visual Studio.

I was able to identify the error when I installed xunit.runner.console and tried to run the tests through command line.

Using a bitmask in C#

if ( ( param & karen ) == karen )
{
  // Do stuff
}

The bitwise 'and' will mask out everything except the bit that "represents" Karen. As long as each person is represented by a single bit position, you could check multiple people with a simple:

if ( ( param & karen ) == karen )
{
  // Do Karen's stuff
}
if ( ( param & bob ) == bob )
  // Do Bob's stuff

How to make an AJAX call without jQuery?

Use XMLHttpRequest.

Simple GET request

httpRequest = new XMLHttpRequest()
httpRequest.open('GET', 'http://www.example.org/some.file')
httpRequest.send()

Simple POST request

httpRequest = new XMLHttpRequest()
httpRequest.open('POST', 'http://www.example.org/some/endpoint')
httpRequest.send('some data')

We can specify that the request should be asynchronous(true), the default, or synchronous(false) with an optional third argument.

// Make a synchronous GET request
httpRequest.open('GET', 'http://www.example.org/some.file', false)

We can set headers before calling httpRequest.send()

httpRequest.setRequestHeader('Content-Type', 'application/x-www-form-urlencoded');

We can handle the response by setting httpRequest.onreadystatechange to a function before calling httpRequest.send()

httpRequest.onreadystatechange = function(){
  // Process the server response here.
  if (httpRequest.readyState === XMLHttpRequest.DONE) {
    if (httpRequest.status === 200) {
      alert(httpRequest.responseText);
    } else {
      alert('There was a problem with the request.');
    }
  }
}

Tools to get a pictorial function call graph of code

Dynamic analysis methods

Here I describe a few dynamic analysis methods.

Dynamic methods actually run the program to determine the call graph.

The opposite of dynamic methods are static methods, which try to determine it from the source alone without running the program.

Advantages of dynamic methods:

  • catches function pointers and virtual C++ calls. These are present in large numbers in any non-trivial software.

Disadvantages of dynamic methods:

  • you have to run the program, which might be slow, or require a setup that you don't have, e.g. cross-compilation
  • only functions that were actually called will show. E.g., some functions could be called or not depending on the command line arguments.

KcacheGrind

https://kcachegrind.github.io/html/Home.html

Test program:

int f2(int i) { return i + 2; }
int f1(int i) { return f2(2) + i + 1; }
int f0(int i) { return f1(1) + f2(2); }
int pointed(int i) { return i; }
int not_called(int i) { return 0; }

int main(int argc, char **argv) {
    int (*f)(int);
    f0(1);
    f1(1);
    f = pointed;
    if (argc == 1)
        f(1);
    if (argc == 2)
        not_called(1);
    return 0;
}

Usage:

sudo apt-get install -y kcachegrind valgrind

# Compile the program as usual, no special flags.
gcc -ggdb3 -O0 -o main -std=c99 main.c

# Generate a callgrind.out.<PID> file.
valgrind --tool=callgrind ./main

# Open a GUI tool to visualize callgrind data.
kcachegrind callgrind.out.1234

You are now left inside an awesome GUI program that contains a lot of interesting performance data.

On the bottom right, select the "Call graph" tab. This shows an interactive call graph that correlates to performance metrics in other windows as you click the functions.

To export the graph, right click it and select "Export Graph". The exported PNG looks like this:

From that we can see that:

  • the root node is _start, which is the actual ELF entry point, and contains glibc initialization boilerplate
  • f0, f1 and f2 are called as expected from one another
  • pointed is also shown, even though we called it with a function pointer. It might not have been called if we had passed a command line argument.
  • not_called is not shown because it didn't get called in the run, because we didn't pass an extra command line argument.

The cool thing about valgrind is that it does not require any special compilation options.

Therefore, you could use it even if you don't have the source code, only the executable.

valgrind manages to do that by running your code through a lightweight "virtual machine". This also makes execution extremely slow compared to native execution.

As can be seen on the graph, timing information about each function call is also obtained, and this can be used to profile the program, which is likely the original use case of this setup, not just to see call graphs: How can I profile C++ code running on Linux?

Tested on Ubuntu 18.04.

gcc -finstrument-functions + etrace

https://github.com/elcritch/etrace

-finstrument-functions adds callbacks, etrace parses the ELF file and implements all callbacks.

I couldn't get it working however unfortunately: Why doesn't `-finstrument-functions` work for me?

Claimed output is of format:

\-- main
|   \-- Crumble_make_apple_crumble
|   |   \-- Crumble_buy_stuff
|   |   |   \-- Crumble_buy
|   |   |   \-- Crumble_buy
|   |   |   \-- Crumble_buy
|   |   |   \-- Crumble_buy
|   |   |   \-- Crumble_buy
|   |   \-- Crumble_prepare_apples
|   |   |   \-- Crumble_skin_and_dice
|   |   \-- Crumble_mix
|   |   \-- Crumble_finalize
|   |   |   \-- Crumble_put
|   |   |   \-- Crumble_put
|   |   \-- Crumble_cook
|   |   |   \-- Crumble_put
|   |   |   \-- Crumble_bake

Likely the most efficient method besides specific hardware tracing support, but has the downside that you have to recompile the code.

How to change the MySQL root account password on CentOS7?

For me work like this: 1. Stop mysql: systemctl stop mysqld

  1. Set the mySQL environment option systemctl set-environment MYSQLD_OPTS="--skip-grant-tables"

  2. Start mysql usig the options you just set systemctl start mysqld

  3. Login as root mysql -u root

  4. After login I use FLUSH PRIVILEGES; tell the server to reload the grant tables so that account-management statements work. If i don't do that i receive this error trying to update the password: "Can't find any matching row in the user table"

How to write a switch statement in Ruby

In Ruby 2.0, you can also use lambdas in case statements, as follows:

is_even = ->(x) { x % 2 == 0 }

case number
when 0 then puts 'zero'
when is_even then puts 'even'
else puts 'odd'
end

You can also create your own comparators easily using a Struct with a custom ===

Moddable = Struct.new(:n) do
  def ===(numeric)
    numeric % n == 0
  end
end

mod4 = Moddable.new(4)
mod3 = Moddable.new(3)

case number
when mod4 then puts 'multiple of 4'
when mod3 then puts 'multiple of 3'
end

(Example taken from "Can procs be used with case statements in Ruby 2.0?".)

Or, with a complete class:

class Vehicle
  def ===(another_vehicle)
    self.number_of_wheels == another_vehicle.number_of_wheels
  end
end

four_wheeler = Vehicle.new 4
two_wheeler = Vehicle.new 2

case vehicle
when two_wheeler
  puts 'two wheeler'
when four_wheeler
  puts 'four wheeler'
end

(Example taken from "How A Ruby Case Statement Works And What You Can Do With It".)

cartesian product in pandas

You could start by taking the Cartesian product of df1.col1 and df2.col3, then merge back to df1 to get col2.

def cartesian_product(d):
    index = pd.MultiIndex.from_product(d.values(), names=d.keys())
    return pd.DataFrame(index=index).reset_index()

Apply as:

res = cartesian_product({'col1': df1.col1, 'col3': df2.col3})
pd.merge(res, df1, on='col1')
#  col1 col3 col2
# 0   1    5    3
# 1   1    6    3
# 2   2    5    4
# 3   2    6    4

Guzzlehttp - How get the body of a response from Guzzle 6?

If expecting JSON back, the simplest way to get it:

$data = json_decode($response->getBody()); // returns an object

// OR

$data = json_decode($response->getBody(), true); // returns an array

json_decode() will automatically cast the body to string, so there is no need to call getContents().

How to fix height of TR?

Setting the td height to less than the natural height of its content

Since table cells want to be at least big enough to encase their content, if the content has no apparent height, the cells can be arbitrarily resized.

By resizing the cells, we can control the row height.

One way to do this, is to set the content with an absolute position within the relative cell, and set the height of the cell, and the left and top of the content.

The table-layout property

The second table in the snippet above has table-layout: fixed applied, which causes cells to be given equal width, regardless of their content, within the parent.

According to caniuse.com, there are no significant compatibility issues regarding the use of table-layout as of Sept 12, 2019.

Or simply apply width to specific cells as in the third table.

These methods allow the cell containing the effectively sizeless content created by applying position: absolute to be given some arbitrary girth.

Much more simply...

I really should have thought of this from the start; we can manipulate block level table cell content in all the usual ways, and without completely destroying the content's natural size with position: absolute, we can leave the table to figure out what the width should be.

How to remove unused dependencies from composer?

In fact, it is very easy.

composer update

will do all this for you, but it will also update the other packages.

To remove a package without updating the others, specifiy that package in the command, for instance:

composer update monolog/monolog

will remove the monolog/monolog package.

Nevertheless, there may remain some empty folders or files that cannot be removed automatically, and that have to be removed manually.

std::queue iteration

If you need to iterate over a queue then you need something more than a queue. The point of the standard container adapters is to provide a minimal interface. If you need to do iteration as well, why not just use a deque (or list) instead?

Set HTML dropdown selected option using JSTL

Real simple. You just need to have the string 'selected' added to the right option. In the following code, ${myBean.foo == val ? 'selected' : ' '} will add the string 'selected' if the option's value is the same as the bean value;

<select name="foo" id="foo" value="${myBean.foo}">
    <option value="">ALL</option>
    <c:forEach items="${fooList}" var="val">
        <option value="${val}" ${myBean.foo == val ? 'selected' : ' '}><c:out value="${val}" ></c:out></option>
    </c:forEach>

make: *** [ ] Error 1 error

I got the same thing. Running "make" and it fails with just this message.

% make
make: *** [all] Error 1

This was caused by a command in a rule terminates with non-zero exit status. E.g. imagine the following (stupid) Makefile:

all:
       @false
       echo "hello"

This would fail (without printing "hello") with the above message since false terminates with exit status 1.

In my case, I was trying to be clever and make a backup of a file before processing it (so that I could compare the newly generated file with my previous one). I did this by having a in my Make rule that looked like this:

@[ -e $@ ] && mv $@ [email protected]

...not realizing that if the target file does not exist, then the above construction will exit (without running the mv command) with exit status 1, and thus any subsequent commands in that rule failed to run. Rewriting my faulty line to:

@if [ -e $@ ]; then mv $@ [email protected]; fi

Solved my problem.

        ->add('Track', 'Track Title');

$doc->save('album.xml');

Loading a document from a file is equally simple.

$doc = fluidify('album.xml');

$doc->query('//Track')
        ->attr('id', 123);

How to get screen width and height

Within an activity, you can call:

int width = this.getResources().getDisplayMetrics().widthPixels;
int height = this.getResources().getDisplayMetrics().heightPixels;

When you're in a View, then you need to get the Context first:

int width = getContext().getResources().getDisplayMetrics().widthPixels;
int height = getContext().getResources().getDisplayMetrics().heightPixels;

This will work in all Android version, available since API 1, and never deprecated.

How to create an Oracle sequence starting with max value from a table?

Here I have my example which works just fine:

declare
 ex number;
begin
  select MAX(MAX_FK_ID)  + 1 into ex from TABLE;
  If ex > 0 then
    begin
            execute immediate 'DROP SEQUENCE SQ_NAME';
      exception when others then
        null;
    end;
    execute immediate 'CREATE SEQUENCE SQ_NAME INCREMENT BY 1 START WITH ' || ex || ' NOCYCLE CACHE 20 NOORDER';
  end if;
end;

Python and pip, list all versions of a package that's available?

Simple bash script that relies only on python itself (I assume that in the context of the question it should be installed) and one of curl or wget. It has an assumption that you have setuptools package installed to sort versions (almost always installed). It doesn't rely on external dependencies such as:

  • jq which may not be present;
  • grep and awk that may behave differently on Linux and macOS.
curl --silent --location https://pypi.org/pypi/requests/json | python -c "import sys, json, pkg_resources; releases = json.load(sys.stdin)['releases']; print(' '.join(sorted(releases, key=pkg_resources.parse_version)))"

A little bit longer version with comments.

Put the package name into a variable:

PACKAGE=requests

Get versions (using curl):

VERSIONS=$(curl --silent --location https://pypi.org/pypi/$PACKAGE/json | python -c "import sys, json, pkg_resources; releases = json.load(sys.stdin)['releases']; print(' '.join(sorted(releases, key=pkg_resources.parse_version)))")

Get versions (using wget):

VERSIONS=$(wget -qO- https://pypi.org/pypi/$PACKAGE/json | python -c "import sys, json, pkg_resources; releases = json.load(sys.stdin)['releases']; print(' '.join(sorted(releases, key=pkg_resources.parse_version)))")

Print sorted versions:

echo $VERSIONS

What's the best way to detect a 'touch screen' device using JavaScript?

You can use the following code:

function isTouchDevice() {
   var el = document.createElement('div');
   el.setAttribute('ongesturestart', 'return;'); // or try "ontouchstart"
   return typeof el.ongesturestart === "function";
}

Source: Detecting touch-based browsing and @mplungjan post.

The above solution was based on detecting event support without browser sniffing article.

You can check the results at the following test page.

Please note that the above code tests only whether the browser has support for touch, not the device. So if you've laptop with touch-screen, your browser may not have the support for the touch events. The recent Chrome supports touch events, but other browser may not.

You could also try:

if (document.documentElement.ontouchmove) {
  // ...
}

but it may not work on iPhone devices.

Getting the computer name in Java

The computer "name" is resolved from the IP address by the underlying DNS (Domain Name System) library of the OS. There's no universal concept of a computer name across OSes, but DNS is generally available. If the computer name hasn't been configured so DNS can resolve it, it isn't available.

import java.net.InetAddress;
import java.net.UnknownHostException;

String hostname = "Unknown";

try
{
    InetAddress addr;
    addr = InetAddress.getLocalHost();
    hostname = addr.getHostName();
}
catch (UnknownHostException ex)
{
    System.out.println("Hostname can not be resolved");
}

How can I select the record with the 2nd highest salary in database Oracle?

select salary from EmployeeDetails order by salary desc limit 1 offset (n-1).

If you want to find 2nd highest than replace n with that 2.

What does the variable $this mean in PHP?

when you create a class you have (in many cases) instance variables and methods (aka. functions). $this accesses those instance variables so that your functions can take those variables and do what they need to do whatever you want with them.

another version of meder's example:

class Person {

    protected $name; //can't be accessed from outside the class

    public function __construct($name) {
        $this->name = $name;
    }

    public function getName() {
        return $this->name;
    }
}
// this line creates an instance of the class Person setting "Jack" as $name.
// __construct() gets executed when you declare it within the class.
$jack = new Person("Jack");

echo $jack->getName();

Output:

Jack

for x in list1:

print('Max values is ' + str(max_v))

how to measure running time of algorithms in python

Using a decorator for measuring execution time for functions can be handy. There is an example at http://www.zopyx.com/blog/a-python-decorator-for-measuring-the-execution-time-of-methods.

Below I've shamelessly pasted the code from the site mentioned above so that the example exists at SO in case the site is wiped off the net.

import time

def timeit(method):

    def timed(*args, **kw):
        ts = time.time()
        result = method(*args, **kw)
        te = time.time()

        print '%r (%r, %r) %2.2f sec' % \
              (method.__name__, args, kw, te-ts)
        return result

    return timed

class Foo(object):

    @timeit
    def foo(self, a=2, b=3):
        time.sleep(0.2)

@timeit
def f1():
    time.sleep(1)
    print 'f1'

@timeit
def f2(a):
    time.sleep(2)
    print 'f2',a

@timeit
def f3(a, *args, **kw):
    time.sleep(0.3)
    print 'f3', args, kw

f1()
f2(42)
f3(42, 43, foo=2)
Foo().foo()

How do you know a variable type in java?

If you want the name, use Martin's method. If you want to know whether it's an instance of a certain class:

boolean b = a instanceof String

PHP Accessing Parent Class Variable

$bb has now become the private member of class B after extending class A where it was protected.

So you access $bb like it's an attribute of class B.

class A {
    private $aa;
    protected $bb = 'parent bb';

    function __construct($arg) {
       //do something..
    }

    private function parentmethod($arg2) {
       //do something..
    }
}

class B extends A {
    function __construct($arg) {
        parent::__construct($arg);
    }
    function childfunction() {
        echo $this->bb;
    }
}

$test = new B($some);
$test->childfunction();

Find object by id in an array of JavaScript objects

You can use filters,

  function getById(id, myArray) {
    return myArray.filter(function(obj) {
      if(obj.id == id) {
        return obj
      }
    })[0]
  }

get_my_obj = getById(73, myArray);

Get first element from a dictionary

EDIT: Use an OrderedDictionary.

It's better to use FirstOrDefault() to retrieve the first value.

Ex:

var firstElement = like.FirstOrDefault();
string firstElementKey = firstElement.Key;
Dictinary<string,string> firstElementValue = firstElement.Value;

How to count number of files in each directory?

find . -type f | cut -d/ -f2 | sort | uniq -c
  • find. -type f to find all items of the type file
  • cut -d/ -f2 to cut out their specific folder
  • sort to sort the list of foldernames
  • uniq -c to return the number of times each foldername has been counted

Fastest way to remove first char in a String

I'd guess that Remove and Substring would tie for first place, since they both slurp up a fixed-size portion of the string, whereas TrimStart does a scan from the left with a test on each character and then has to perform exactly the same work as the other two methods. Seriously, though, this is splitting hairs.

remove all special characters in java

Your problem is that the indices returned by match.start() correspond to the position of the character as it appeared in the original string when you matched it; however, as you rewrite the string c every time, these indices become incorrect.

The best approach to solve this is to use replaceAll, for example:

        System.out.println(c.replaceAll("[^a-zA-Z0-9]", ""));

execJs: 'Could not find a JavaScript runtime' but execjs AND therubyracer are in Gemfile

I am using Ubuntu 11.10- 32 bit with ruby 1.9.3p194, rails 3.2.3, gem 1.8.24. Was receiving the same Javascript error while running "script/rails console".

However doing a "sudo apt-get install nodejs" solved my issue.

How to filter object array based on attributes?

You can try using framework like jLinq - following is a code sample of using jLinq

var results = jLinq.from(data.users)
.startsWith("first", "a")
.orEndsWith("y")
.orderBy("admin", "age")
.select();

Why do package names often begin with "com"

From the Wikipedia article on Java package naming:

In general, a package name begins with the top level domain name of the organization and then the organization's domain and then any subdomains, listed in reverse order. The organization can then choose a specific name for its package. Package names should be all lowercase characters whenever possible.
For example, if an organization in Canada called MySoft creates a package to deal with fractions, naming the package ca.mysoft.fractions distinguishes the fractions package from another similar package created by another company. If a US company named MySoft also creates a fractions package, but names it us.mysoft.fractions, then the classes in these two packages are defined in a unique and separate namespace.

How do I control how Emacs makes backup files?

You can disable them altogether by

Change default date time format on a single database in SQL Server

For SQL Server 2008 run:

EXEC sp_defaultlanguage 'username', 'british'

Make a negative number positive

I needed the absolute value of a long , and looked deeply into Math.abs and found that if my argument is less than LONG.MIN_VAL which is -9223372036854775808l, then the abs function would not return an absolute value but only the minimum value. Inthis case if your code is using this abs value further then there might be an issue.

git: fatal: Could not read from remote repository

I have tried everything including generating new key, adding to the GitHub account, editing .ssh/config and .git/config. But still it was giving me the same error. Then I tried following command and it does work successfully.

ssh-agent bash -c 'ssh-add ~/.ssh/id_rsa; git clone [email protected]:username/repo.git'

Get distance between two points in canvas

i tend to use this calculation a lot in things i make, so i like to add it to the Math object:

Math.dist=function(x1,y1,x2,y2){
  if(!x2) x2=0;
  if(!y2) y2=0;
  return Math.sqrt((x2-x1)*(x2-x1)+(y2-y1)*(y2-y1));
}
Math.dist(0,0, 3,4); //the output will be 5
Math.dist(1,1, 4,5); //the output will be 5
Math.dist(3,4); //the output will be 5

Update:

this approach is especially happy making when you end up in situations something akin to this (i often do):

varName.dist=Math.sqrt( ( (varName.paramX-varX)/2-cx )*( (varName.paramX-varX)/2-cx ) + ( (varName.paramY-varY)/2-cy )*( (varName.paramY-varY)/2-cy ) );

that horrid thing becomes the much more manageable:

varName.dist=Math.dist((varName.paramX-varX)/2, (varName.paramY-varY)/2, cx, cy);

Improve subplot size/spacing with many subplots in matplotlib

Count number of matches of a regex in Javascript

As mentioned in my earlier answer, you can use RegExp.exec() to iterate over all matches and count each occurrence; the advantage is limited to memory only, because on the whole it's about 20% slower than using String.match().

var re = /\s/g,
count = 0;

while (re.exec(text) !== null) {
    ++count;
}

return count;

How do I access named capturing groups in a .NET Regex?

This answers improves on Rashmi Pandit's answer, which is in a way better than the rest because that it seems to completely resolve the exact problem detailed in the question.

The bad part is that is inefficient and not uses the IgnoreCase option consistently.

Inefficient part is because regex can be expensive to construct and execute, and in that answer it could have been constructed just once (calling Regex.IsMatch was just constructing the regex again behind the scene). And Match method could have been called only once and stored in a variable and then linkand name should call Result from that variable.

And the IgnoreCase option was only used in the Match part but not in the Regex.IsMatch part.

I also moved the Regex definition outside the method in order to construct it just once (I think is the sensible approach if we are storing that the assembly with the RegexOptions.Compiled option).

private static Regex hrefRegex = new Regex("<td>\\s*<a\\s*href\\s*=\\s*(?:\"(?<link>[^\"]*)\"|(?<link>\\S+))\\s*>(?<name>.*)\\s*</a>\\s*</td>",  RegexOptions.IgnoreCase | RegexOptions.Compiled);

public static bool TryGetHrefDetails(string htmlTd, out string link, out string name)
{
    var matches = hrefRegex.Match(htmlTd);
    if (matches.Success)
    {
        link = matches.Result("${link}");
        name = matches.Result("${name}");
        return true;
    }
    else
    {
        link = null;
        name = null;
        return false;
    }
}

Editing legend (text) labels in ggplot

The legend titles can be labeled by specific aesthetic.

This can be achieved using the guides() or labs() functions from ggplot2 (more here and here). It allows you to add guide/legend properties using the aesthetic mapping.

Here's an example using the mtcars data set and labs():

ggplot(mtcars, aes(x=mpg, y=disp, size=hp, col=as.factor(cyl), shape=as.factor(gear))) +
  geom_point() +
  labs(x="miles per gallon", y="displacement", size="horsepower",
       col="# of cylinders", shape="# of gears")

enter image description here

Answering the OP's question using guides():

# transforming the data from wide to long
require(reshape2)
dfm <- melt(df, id="TY")

# creating a scatterplot
ggplot(data = dfm, aes(x=TY, y=value, color=variable)) +
  geom_point(size=5) +
  labs(title="Temperatures\n", x="TY [°C]", y="Txxx") +
  scale_color_manual(labels = c("T999", "T888"), values = c("blue", "red")) +
  theme_bw() +
  guides(color=guide_legend("my title")) # add guide properties by aesthetic

jQuery Popup Bubble/Tooltip

Although qTip (the accepted answer) is good, I started using it, and it lacked some features I needed.

I then stumbled upon PoshyTip - it is very flexible, and really easy to use. (And I could do what I needed)

How to design RESTful search/filtering?

I think you should go with request parameters but only as long as there isn't an appropriate HTTP header to accomplish what you want to do. The HTTP specification does not explicitly say, that GET can not have a body. However this paper states:

By convention, when GET method is used, all information required to identify the resource is encoded in the URI. There is no convention in HTTP/1.1 for a safe interaction (e.g., retrieval) where the client supplies data to the server in an HTTP entity body rather than in the query part of a URI. This means that for safe operations, URIs may be long.

How to find the unclosed div tag

Taking Milad's suggestion a bit further, you can break your document source down and then do another find, continuing until you find the unmatched culprit.

When you are working with many modules (using a CMS), or don't have access to the W3C tool (because you are working locally), this approach is really helpful.

Fatal error: Call to a member function fetch_assoc() on a non-object

I happen to miss spaces in my query and this error comes.

Ex: $sql= "SELECT * FROM";
$sql .= "table1";

Though the example might look simple, when coding complex queries, the probability for this error is high. I was missing space before word "table1".

Correct way to find max in an Array in Swift

Updated for Swift 3/4:

Use below simple lines of code to find the max from array;

var num = [11, 2, 7, 5, 21]
var result = num.sorted(){
    $0 > $1
}
print("max from result: \(result[0])") // 21

Cannot resolve the collation conflict between "SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS" and "Latin1_General_CI_AS" in the equal to operation

For those who have a CREATE DATABASE script (as was my case) for the database that is causing this issue you can use the following CREATE script to match the collation:

-- Create Case Sensitive Database
CREATE DATABASE CaseSensitiveDatabase
COLLATE SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CS_AS -- or any collation you require
GO
USE CaseSensitiveDatabase
GO
SELECT *
FROM sys.types
GO
--rest of your script here

or

-- Create Case In-Sensitive Database
CREATE DATABASE CaseInSensitiveDatabase
COLLATE SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS -- or any collation you require
GO
USE CaseInSensitiveDatabase
GO
SELECT *
FROM sys.types
GO
--rest of your script here

This applies the desired collation to all the tables, which was just what I needed. It is ideal to try and keep the collation the same for all databases on a server. Hope this helps.

How to change Maven local repository in eclipse

In newer versions of Eclipse the global configuration file can be set in

Windows > Preferences > Maven > User Settings > Global Settings

Don't beat me why global settings can be configured in user settings... Probably because of the same reason why you need to press "Start" to shutdown your PC on Windows... :D
