If I understand correctly, you have a vector containing variable names and would like loop through each name and sort your data frame by them. If so, this example should illustrate a solution for you. The primary issue in yours (the full example isn't complete so I"m not sure what else you may be missing) is that it should be order(Q1_R1000[,parameter[X]]) instead of order(Q1_R1000$parameter[X]), since parameter is an external object that contains a variable name opposed to a direct column of your data frame (which when the $ would be appropriate).

Removing trailing newline character from fgets() input

Below is a fast approach to remove a potential '\n' from a string saved by fgets().
It uses strlen(), with 2 tests.

Now use buffer and len as needed.

This method has the side benefit of a len value for subsequent code. It can be easily faster than strchr(Name, '\n'). Ref YMMV, but both methods work.


buffer, from the original fgets() will not contain in "\n" under some circumstances:
A) The line was too long for buffer so only char preceding the '\n' is saved in buffer. The unread characters remain in the stream.
B) The last line in the file did not end with a '\n'.

If input has embedded null characters '\0' in it somewhere, the length reported by strlen() will not include the '\n' location.


Some other answers' issues:

  1. strtok(buffer, "\n"); fails to remove the '\n' when buffer is "\n". From this answer - amended after this answer to warn of this limitation.

  2. The following fails on rare occasions when the first char read by fgets() is '\0'. This happens when input begins with an embedded '\0'. Then buffer[len -1] becomes buffer[SIZE_MAX] accessing memory certainly outside the legitimate range of buffer. Something a hacker may try or found in foolishly reading UTF16 text files. This was the state of an answer when this answer was written. Later a non-OP edited it to include code like this answer's check for "".

  3. sprintf(buffer,"%s",buffer); is undefined behavior: Ref. Further, it does not save any leading, separating or trailing whitespace. Now deleted.

  4. [Edit due to good later answer] There are no problems with the 1 liner buffer[strcspn(buffer, "\n")] = 0; other than performance as compared to the strlen() approach. Performance in trimming is usually not an issue given code is doing I/O - a black hole of CPU time. Should following code need the string's length or is highly performance conscious, use this strlen() approach. Else the strcspn() is a fine alternative.

Why is Java Vector (and Stack) class considered obsolete or deprecated?

java.util.Stack inherits the synchronization overhead of java.util.Vector, which is usually not justified.

It inherits a lot more than that, though. The fact that java.util.Stack extends java.util.Vector is a mistake in object-oriented design. Purists will note that it also offers a lot of methods beyond the operations traditionally associated with a stack (namely: push, pop, peek, size). It's also possible to do search, elementAt, setElementAt, remove, and many other random-access operations. It's basically up to the user to refrain from using the non-stack operations of Stack.

For these performance and OOP design reasons, the JavaDoc for java.util.Stack recommends ArrayDeque as the natural replacement. (A deque is more than a stack, but at least it's restricted to manipulating the two ends, rather than offering random access to everything.)

The answer accepted above is not fully accurate. According to information obtained by inspecting Android source code:

Resources.getDimension() and getDimensionPixelOffset()/getDimensionPixelSize() differ only in that the former returns float while the latter two return the same value rounded to int appropriatelly. For all of them, the return value is in raw pixels.

All three functions are implementedy by calling Resources.getValue() and converting thus obtained TypedValue by calling TypedValue.complexToDimension(), TypedValue.complexToDimensionPixelOffset() and TypedValue.complexToDimensionPixelSize(), respectively.

Therefore, if you want to obtain "raw" value together with the unit specified in XML source, call Resources.getValue() and use methods of the TypedValue class.

What is the difference between a cer, pvk, and pfx file?

Windows uses .cer extension for an X.509 certificate. These can be in "binary" (ASN.1 DER), or it can be encoded with Base-64 and have a header and footer applied (PEM); Windows will recognize either. To verify the integrity of a certificate, you have to check its signature using the issuer's public key... which is, in turn, another certificate.

Windows uses .pfx for a PKCS #12 file. This file can contain a variety of cryptographic information, including certificates, certificate chains, root authority certificates, and private keys. Its contents can be cryptographically protected (with passwords) to keep private keys private and preserve the integrity of root certificates.

Windows uses .pvk for a private key file. I'm not sure what standard (if any) Windows follows for these. Hopefully they are PKCS #8 encoded keys. Emmanuel Bourg reports that these are a proprietary format. Some documentation is available.

You should never disclose your private key. These are contained in .pfx and .pvk files.

Generally, you only exchange your certificate (.cer) and the certificates of any intermediate issuers (i.e., the certificates of all of your CAs, except the root CA) with other parties.

docker entrypoint running bash script gets "permission denied"

Updating a date in Oracle SQL table

If this SQL is being used in any peoplesoft specific code (Application Engine, SQLEXEC, SQLfetch, etc..) you could use %Datein metaSQL. Peopletools automatically converts the date to a format which would be accepted by the database platform the application is running on.

In case this SQL is being used to perform a backend update from a query analyzer (like SQLDeveloper, SQLTools), the date format that is being used is wrong. Oracle expects the date format to be DD-MMM-YYYY, where MMM could be JAN, FEB, MAR, etc..

How to cancel a local git commit

If you're in the middle of a commit (i.e. in your editor already), you can cancel it by deleting all lines above the first #. That will abort the commit.

So you can delete all lines so that the commit message is empty, then save the file:

How can I run another application within a panel of my C# program?

I know this is possible if the other application can attach itself to a win32 window handle. For example, we have a separate C# application that hosts a DirectX application inside one of its windows. I'm not familiar with the exact details of how this is implemented, but I think just passing the win32 Handle of your panel to the other application is enough for that application to attach its DirectX surface.

Sounds like mssql jdbc is buffering the entire resultset for you. You can add a connect string parameter saying selectMode=cursor or responseBuffering=adaptive. If you are on version 2.0+ of the 2005 mssql jdbc driver then response buffering should default to adaptive.

linking problem: fatal error LNK1112: module machine type 'x64' conflicts with target machine type 'X86'

I know this is a bit old, but I thought I would provide another tip. In my situation, I inherited this application that I had to maintain. The VS2008 project came with the same string in C/C++->OutputFIles->"ObjectFIleName" and "Program Database File Name" (for both platforms Win32 and x64). So when I built Win32 platform, it built fine, but when I tried to build x64, I got the error:

\Debug64\Objects\common.obj : fatal error LNK1112: module machine type 'X86' conflicts with target machine type 'x64'

Obviously, both patforms were storing common.obj at the same location, so when I tried to build x64, the linker took the existing object file, which was x86.

To fix I just replaced the existing string with the macro "$(IntDir)\" for x64 (no quotes), and made sure that the macro resolved to the correct path, as in the rest of the projects. That solved my problem.

Both are supported. To quote the Arduino homepage,

The core libraries are written in C and C++ and compiled using avr-gcc

Note that C++ is a superset of C (well, almost), and thus can often look very similar. I am not an expert, but I guess that most of what you will program for the Arduino in your first year on that platform will not need anything but plain C.

Why is Visual Studio 2010 not able to find/open PDB files?

Had the same problem here but a different solution worked.

First, I tried the following, none of which worked:

  1. Load symbols as suggested by seanlitow

  2. Remove/Add reference to PresentationFramework and PresentationCore

  3. Restart system

The solution was to undo the last few changes I had made to my code. I had just added a couple radio buttons and event handlers for checked and unchecked events. After removing my recent changes everything compiled. I then added my exact changes back and everything compiled properly. I don't understand why this worked - only thing I can think of is a problem with my VS Solution. Anyway, if none of the other suggestions work, you might try reverting back your most recent changes. NOTE: if you close & re-open Visual Studio your undo history is lost.. so you might try this before you close VS.

I have multiple version of Xcode installed at the same time. The framework was built with a newer version of Xcode. The app that I tried to compile was with an older version of Xcode. When I cleaned and compiled both the framework and the app with the same version of Xcode then things worked.

I had this same issue. I had copied a view "Movie" and renamed it "Customer" accordingly. I also did the same with the models and the controllers.

The resolution was this...I rename the Customer View to Customer1 and just created a new view and called it Customer....I then just copied the Customer1 code into Customer.

This worked.

I would love to know the real cause of the problem.

UPDATE Just for grins....I went back and replicated all the renaming scenario again...and did not get any errors.

Option 1: Put this in your procedure to print 'comment' to stdout when it runs.

There is very heavy restrictions on this command. You can only write the outfile to areas on disk that give the 'others' group create and write permissions. It should work saving it out to /tmp directory.

Also once you write the outfile, you can't overwrite it. This is to prevent crackers from rooting your box just because they have SQL injected your website and can run arbitrary commands in MySQL.

Is there a W3C valid way to disable autocomplete in a HTML form?

autocomplete="off" this should fix the issue for all modern browsers.

In current versions of Gecko browsers, the autocomplete attribute works perfectly. For earlier versions, going back to Netscape 6.2, it worked with the exception for forms with "Address" and "Name"

Update

In some cases, the browser will keep suggesting autocompletion values even if the autocomplete attribute is set to off. This unexpected behavior can be quite puzzling for developers. The trick to really forcing the no-autocompletion is to assign a random string to the attribute, for example:

autocomplete="nope"

Since this random value is not a valid one, the browser will give up.

Retrieve data from a ReadableStream object?

Little bit late to the party but had some problems with getting something useful out from a ReadableStream produced from a Odata $batch request using the Sharepoint Framework.

Had similar issues as OP, but the solution in my case was to use a different conversion method than .json(). In my case .text() worked like a charm. Some fiddling was however necessary to get some useful JSON from the textfile.

Why do we have to specify FromBody and FromUri?

When a parameter has [FromBody], Web API uses the Content-Type header to select a formatter. In this example, the content type is "application/json" and the request body is a raw JSON string (not a JSON object).

At most one parameter is allowed to read from the message body. So this will not work:

Getting binary (base64) data from HTML5 Canvas (readAsBinaryString)

The canvas element provides a toDataURL method which returns a data: URL that includes the base64-encoded image data in a given format. For example:

How does the class_weight parameter in scikit-learn work?

The first answer is good for understanding how it works. But I wanted to understand how I should be using it in practice.

SUMMARY

  • for moderately imbalanced data WITHOUT noise, there is not much of a difference in applying class weights
  • for moderately imbalanced data WITH noise and strongly imbalanced, it is better to apply class weights
  • param class_weight="balanced" works decent in the absence of you wanting to optimize manually
  • with class_weight="balanced" you capture more true events (higher TRUE recall) but also you are more likely to get false alerts (lower TRUE precision)
    • as a result, the total % TRUE might be higher than actual because of all the false positives
    • AUC might misguide you here if the false alarms are an issue
  • no need to change decision threshold to the imbalance %, even for strong imbalance, ok to keep 0.5 (or somewhere around that depending on what you need)

NB

The result might differ when using RF or GBM. sklearn does not have class_weight="balanced" for GBM but lightgbm has LGBMClassifier(is_unbalance=False)

Notes:

  1. Separate VC++ code branch is necessary because VC++ has decided to deprecate snprintf which will generate compiler warnings for other highly voted answers above. As I always run in "warnings as errors" mode, its no go for me.
  2. The function accepts char * instead of std::string. This because most of the time this function would be called with literal string which is indeed char *, not std::string. In case you do have std::string as format parameter, then just call .c_str().
  3. Name of the function is stringf instead of things like string_format to keepup with printf, scanf etc.
  4. It doesn't address safety issue (i.e. bad parameters can potentially cause seg fault instead of exception). If you need this then you are better off with boost or fmt libraries. My preference here would be fmt because it is just one header and source file to drop in the project while having less weird formatting syntax than boost. However both are non-compatible with printf format strings so below is still useful in that case.
  5. The stringf code passes through GCC strict mode compilation. This requires extra #pragma macros to suppress false positives in GCC warnings.

Using Bash's own regex-matching operator, =~, is a faster alternative in this case, given that you're only matching a single value already stored in a variable:

But for some real world numbers, on my 2017 enterprise Chromebook, running the operation:

  • x=4e6 takes 250ms, which is noticeable but not a big deal
  • x=3e7 takes 1300ms, which is pretty bad

So around 30 million elements is a hard upper limit, because the javascript VM falls off a cliff at 40 million elements and will probably crash the process.


EDIT: In the code above, I'm actually filling the array with elements and looping over them, simulating the minimum of what an app might want to do with an array. If you just run Array(2**32-1) you're creating a sparse array that's closer to an empty JavaScript object with a length, like {length: 4294967295}. If you actually tried to use all those 4 billion elements, you'll definitely your user's javascript process.

There are a few things which new does that malloc doesn’t:

  1. new constructs the object by calling the constructor of that object
  2. new doesn’t require typecasting of allocated memory.
  3. It doesn’t require an amount of memory to be allocated, rather it requires a number of objects to be constructed.

So, if you use malloc, then you need to do above things explicitly, which is not always practical. Additionally, new can be overloaded but malloc can’t be.

In a word, if you use C++, try to use new as much as possible.

Load and execution sequence of a web page?

1) HTML is downloaded.

2) HTML is parsed progressively. When a request for an asset is reached the browser will attempt to download the asset. A default configuration for most HTTP servers and most browsers is to process only two requests in parallel. IE can be reconfigured to downloaded an unlimited number of assets in parallel. Steve Souders has been able to download over 100 requests in parallel on IE. The exception is that script requests block parallel asset requests in IE. This is why it is highly suggested to put all JavaScript in external JavaScript files and put the request just prior to the closing body tag in the HTML.

3) Once the HTML is parsed the DOM is rendered. CSS is rendered in parallel to the rendering of the DOM in nearly all user agents. As a result it is strongly recommended to put all CSS code into external CSS files that are requested as high as possible in the <head></head> section of the document. Otherwise the page is rendered up to the occurance of the CSS request position in the DOM and then rendering starts over from the top.

4) Only after the DOM is completely rendered and requests for all assets in the page are either resolved or time out does JavaScript execute from the onload event. IE7, and I am not sure about IE8, does not time out assets quickly if an HTTP response is not received from the asset request. This means an asset requested by JavaScript inline to the page, that is JavaScript written into HTML tags that is not contained in a function, can prevent the execution of the onload event for hours. This problem can be triggered if such inline code exists in the page and fails to execute due to a namespace collision that causes a code crash.

Of the above steps the one that is most CPU intensive is the parsing of the DOM/CSS. If you want your page to be processed faster then write efficient CSS by eliminating redundent instructions and consolidating CSS instructions into the fewest possible element referrences. Reducing the number of nodes in your DOM tree will also produce faster rendering.

Keep in mind that each asset you request from your HTML or even from your CSS/JavaScript assets is requested with a separate HTTP header. This consumes bandwidth and requires processing per request. If you want to make your page load as fast as possible then reduce the number of HTTP requests and reduce the size of your HTML. You are not doing your user experience any favors by averaging page weight at 180k from HTML alone. Many developers subscribe to some fallacy that a user makes up their mind about the quality of content on the page in 6 nanoseconds and then purges the DNS query from his server and burns his computer if displeased, so instead they provide the most beautiful possible page at 250k of HTML. Keep your HTML short and sweet so that a user can load your pages faster. Nothing improves the user experience like a fast and responsive web page.

Why are there two ways to unstage a file in Git?

git rm --cached is used to remove a file from the index. In the case where the file is already in the repo, git rm --cached will remove the file from the index, leaving it in the working directory and a commit will now remove it from the repo as well. Basically, after the commit, you would have unversioned the file and kept a local copy.

git reset HEAD file ( which by default is using the --mixed flag) is different in that in the case where the file is already in the repo, it replaces the index version of the file with the one from repo (HEAD), effectively unstaging the modifications to it.

In the case of unversioned file, it is going to unstage the entire file as the file was not there in the HEAD. In this aspect git reset HEAD file and git rm --cached are same, but they are not same ( as explained in the case of files already in the repo)

To the question of Why are there 2 ways to unstage a file in git? - there is never really only one way to do anything in git. that is the beauty of it :)

UIWebView open links in Safari

The other answers have one problem: they rely on the action you do and not on the link itself to decide whether to load it in Safari or in webview.

Now sometimes this is exactly what you want, which is fine; but some other times, especially if you have anchor links in your page, you want really to open only external links in Safari, and not internal ones. In that case you should check the URL.host property of your request.

A class is typically declared in a header file and a header file is typically included into many translation units. However, to avoid complicated linker rules, C++ requires that every object has a unique definition. That rule would be broken if C++ allowed in-class definition of entities that needed to be stored in memory as objects.

Why are only static const integral types & enums allowed In-class Initialization?

The answer is hidden in Bjarne's quote read it closely,
"C++ requires that every object has a unique definition. That rule would be broken if C++ allowed in-class definition of entities that needed to be stored in memory as objects."

Note that only static const integers can be treated as compile time constants. The compiler knows that the integer value will not change anytime and hence it can apply its own magic and apply optimizations, the compiler simply inlines such class members i.e, they are not stored in memory anymore, As the need of being stored in memory is removed, it gives such variables the exception to rule mentioned by Bjarne.

It is noteworthy to note here that even if static const integral values can have In-Class Initialization, taking address of such variables is not allowed. One can take the address of a static member if (and only if) it has an out-of-class definition.This further validates the reasoning above.

Also, C++11 will allow(§12.6.2.8) a non-static data member to be initialized where it is declared(in its class). This will mean much easy user semantics.

Note that these features have not yet been implemented in latest gcc 4.7, So you might still get compilation errors.

What is @ModelAttribute in Spring MVC?

Take any web application whether it is Gmail or Facebook or Instagram or any other web application, it's all about exchanging data or information between the end user and the application or the UI and the back end application. Even in Spring MVC world there are two ways to exchange data:

  1. from the Controller to the UI, and
  2. from the UI to the Controller.

What we are interested here is how the data is communicated from the UI to Controller. This can also be done in 2 ways:

  1. Using an HTML Form
  2. Using Query Parameters.

Using an HTML Form: Consider the below scenario,

Form Submission Representation

When we submit the form data from the web browser, we can access that data in our Controller class as an object. When we submit an HTML form, the Spring Container does four things. It will,

  1. first read all the data that is submitted that comes in the request using the request.getParameter method.
  2. once it reads them, it will convert them into the appropriate Java type using integer.parseInt, double.parseDouble and all the other parse methods that are available based on the data type of the data.
  3. once parsed, it will create a object of the model class that we created. For example, in this scenario, it is the user information that is being submitted and we create a class called User, which the Container will create an object of and it will set all the values that come in automatically into that object.
  4. it will then handover that object by setting the values to the Controller.

To get this whole thing to work, we'll have to follow certain steps.

Internal working

We first need to define a model class, like User, in which the number of fields should exactly match the number of fields in the HTML form. Also, the names that we use in the HTML form should match the names that we have in the Java class. These two are very important. Names should match, the number of fields in the form should match the number of fields in the class that we create. Once we do that, the Container will automatically read the data that comes in, creates an object of this model, sets the values and it hands it over to the Controller. To read those values inside the Controller, we use the @ModelAttribute annotation on the method parameters. When we create methods in the Controller, we are going to use the @ModelAttribute and add a parameter to it which will automatically have this object given by the Container.

Here is an example code for registering an user:

How to finish current activity in Android

You need to call finish() from the UI thread, not a background thread. The way to do this is to declare a Handler and ask the Handler to run a Runnable on the UI thread. For example:

Cannot Resolve Collation Conflict

The thing about collations is that although the database has its own collation, every table, and every column can have its own collation. If not specified it takes the default of its parent object, but can be different.

When you change collation of the database, it will be the new default for all new tables and columns, but it doesn't change the collation of existing objects inside the database. You have to go and change manually the collation of every table and column.

Luckily there are scripts available on the internet that can do the job. I am not going to recommend any as I haven't tried them but here are few links:

Even if that's a 7 years old question, people new to R should consider using the data.table, package.

A data.table is a data.frame so all you can do for/to a data.frame you can also do. But many think are ORDERS of magnitude faster with data.table.

SSLHandshakeException: No subject alternative names present

Thanks,Bruno for giving me heads up on Common Name and Subject Alternative Name. As we figured out certificate was generated with CN with DNS name of network and asked for regeneration of new certificate with Subject Alternative Name entry i.e. san=ip:10.0.0.1. which is the actual solution.

But, we managed to find out a workaround with which we can able to run on development phase. Just add a static block in the class from which we are making ssl connection.

I wish I still had a link to the source that lead me in this direction, but this is the code that ended up working for me. By looking over the JavaDoc for X509TrustManager it looks like the way the TrustManagers work is by returning nothing on successful validation, otherwise throwing an exception. Thus, with a null implementation, it is treated as a successful validation. Then you remove all other implementations.

I ran into this just now with SQL Server 2014 SP1. The installer gave me the exact same problem and I followed suggestions from other answers to this question, but it got me nowhere.

In short it appears there is (currently) no long term solution other than to somehow get your child component to style things dynamically.

You could pass a style object to your child and have it applied via:

How do I increase the scrollback buffer in a running screen session?

As Already mentioned we have two ways!

 Per screen (session) interactive setting

And it's done interactively! And take effect immediately!

CTRL + A followed by : And we type scrollback 1000000 And hit ENTER

You detach from the screen and come back! It will be always the same.

You open another new screen! And the value is reset again to default! So it's not a global setting!

 And the permanent default setting

Which is done by adding defscrollback 1000000 to .screenrc (in home)

defscrollback and not scrollback (def stand for default)

What you need to know is if the file is not created ! You create it !

> cd ~ && vim .screenrc

And you add defscrollback 1000000 to it!

Or in one command

> echo "defscrollback 1000000" >> .screenrc

Taking effect

When you add the default to .screenrc! The already running screen at re-attach will not take effect! The .screenrc run at the screen creation! And it make sense! Just as with a normal console and shell launch!

And all the new created screens will have the set value!

Since Java 9 you have Objects#requireNonNullElse which does:

So I've created my own method that compares simple java objects without going deep into nested structures...

Method returns null if all fields match or string containing mismatch details.

Only properties that have a getter method are compared.

If your index is less than the size of your list then it does exist, possibly with null value. If index is bigger then you may call ensureCapacity() to be able to use that index.

  • By subclassing the form and overriding the textFieldValueIsValid: method, you can avoid end of edition if the value is not correct for the given field.

  • If a field has a delegate set in Interface Builder, then the form does not change it. I don't see many reasons to set a different delegate to a particular field, but why not…

There is many ways to improve this form view class - Attach a delegate, do some layout, handle when the keyboards covers a field ( using the currentEditingTextField frame ), automatically start edition for the next field, ...

I personally keep it in my framework, and always subclass it to add features, it is quite often useful "as-is".

How to convert flat raw disk image to vmdk for virtualbox or vmplayer?

Just to give you an another option, you could use https://sourceforge.net/projects/dd2vmdk/ as well. dd2vmdk is a *nix-based program that allows you to mount raw disk images (created by dd, dcfldd, dc3dd, ftk imager, etc) by taking the raw image, analyzing the master boot record (physical sector 0), and getting specific information that is need to create a vmdk file.

Personally, imo Qemu and the Zapotek's raw2vmdk tools are the best overall options to convert dd to vmdks.

Ever since Spring 4.x, you usually won't use @ResponseBody on method level, but rather @RestController on class level, with the same effect.

"Prevent saving changes that require the table to be re-created" negative effects

SQL Server drops and recreates the tables only if you:

  • Add a new column
  • Change the Allow Nulls setting for a column
  • Change the column order in the table
  • Change the column data type

Using ALTER is safer, as in case the metadata is lost while you re-create the table, your data will be lost.

What is the first character in the sort order used by Windows Explorer?

I had the same problem. I wanted to 'bury' a folder at the bottom of the sort instead of bringing it to the top with the '!' character. Windows recognizes most special characters as just that, 'special', and therefore they ALL are sorted at the top.

However, if you think outside of the English characters, you will find a lot of luck. I used Character Map and the arial font, scrolled down past '~' and the others to the greek alphabet. Capitol Xi, ?, worked best for me, but I didn't check to see which was the actual 'lowest' in the sort.
