    Ruby will start comparing each element of both array from left hand side. 1 for left array is smaller than 2 of right array. Hence left array is smaller than right array. Output will be -1.

  2. [2,3,2] <=> [2,2,2]

    As above it will first compare first element which are equal then it will compare second element, in this case second element of left array is greater hence output is 1.

For those who use PHP5.3 might be interested in using Number Formatter Class - http://php.net/manual/en/class.numberformatter.php. This function, as well as range of other useful things, can format your number.

No == operator found while comparing structs in C++

By default structs do not have a == operator. You'll have to write your own implementation:

I'm sorry if I misunderstood. Could I just make sure that you understand the purpose of a LinkButton? It is to give the appearance of a HyperLink but the behaviour of a Button. This means that it will have an anchor tag, but there is JavaScript wired up that performs a PostBack to the page. If you want to link to another page then it is recommended here that you use a standard HyperLink control.

I know the post is kinda old, but I have found a solution easy that works on Debian based distribution without compiling nginx from source.

First install nginx-extras package

SSL certificate is not trusted - on mobile only

The most likely reason for the error is that the certificate authority that issued your SSL certificate is trusted on your desktop, but not on your mobile.

If you purchased the certificate from a common certification authority, it shouldn't be an issue - but if it is a less common one it is possible that your phone doesn't have it. You may need to accept it as a trusted publisher (although this is not ideal if you are pushing the site to the public as they won't be willing to do this.)

You might find looking at a list of Trusted CAs for Android helps to see if yours is there or not.

Are you sure that your configuration file (web.config) is at the right place and the connection string is really in the (generated) file? If you publish your file, the content of web.release.config might be copied.

The configuration and the access to the Connection string looks all right to me. I would always add a providername

The absolute path to the directory where ./manage.py collectstatic will collect static files for deployment. Example: STATIC_ROOT="/var/www/example.com/static/"

now the command ./manage.py collectstatic will copy all the static files(ie in static folder in your apps, static files in all paths) to the directory /var/www/example.com/static/. now you only need to serve this directory on apache or nginx..etc.

Jasmine JavaScript Testing - toBe vs toEqual

Looking at the Jasmine source code sheds more light on the issue.

toBe is very simple and just uses the identity/strict equality operator, ===:

Edit: It looks like there are discrepancies occasionally, at least in terms of postal codes, when compared to the Google Maps API, and the latter seems to be more accurate. I viewed the Eclipse ADT documentation and found out the way to get around this issue. I was able to Update My SDK Tool to 22.0.4 (Latest Version).

Solution is: First Update ADT to 22.0.4(Latest version) and then Update SDK Tool to 22.0.4(Latest Version)

The above link says,

ADT 22.0.4 is designed for use with SDK Tools r22.0.4. If you haven't already installed SDK Tools r22.0.4 into your SDK, use the Android SDK Manager to do so

What I had to do was update my ADT to 22.0.4 (Latest Version) and then I was able to update SDK tool to 22.0.4. I thought only SDK Tool has been updated not ADT, so I was updating the SDK Tool with Older ADT Version (22.0.1).

How to Update your ADT to Latest Version

  1. In Eclipse go to Help
  2. Install New Software ---> Add
  3. inside Add Repository write the Name: ADT (or whatever you want)
  4. and Location: https://dl-ssl.google.com/android/eclipse/
  5. after loading you should get Developer Tools and NDK Plugins

I know this is an old question but I thought I would provide an example using the srcdoc attribute as this is now widely supported and this is question is viewed often.

Using the srcdoc attribute, you can provide inline HTML to embed. It overrides the src attribute if supported. The browser will fall back to the src attribute if unsupported.

I would also recommend using the sandbox attribute to apply extra restrictions to the content in the frame. This is especially important if the HTML is not your own.

This will solve the problem of getting "Class 'PDO' not found" when you create a local php.ini file.

If you can't turn off magic quotes using the htaccess file (for reasons already given by Pete Bailey) just:

  1. Create a text file
  2. Rename it to 'php.ini'
  3. Add the lines

    magic_quotes_runtime = Off
    magic_quotes_sybase = Off
    extension=pdo.so
    extension=pdo_mysql.so

  4. Save it to the directory/ies in which your scripts are executing.

Update: if you want to have just one copy of the new php.ini file then add this line to your root .htaccess file:

It took a while to put together a solution for this, but have found this is the easiest way to get it to work in the way that you describe. There could be better ways to do this, but since you haven't posted your activity code I will have to improvise and assume you have a list like this at the start of your activity:

A better way to do this is if your list data is from a database, you can pass the Cursor returned by database functions directly to ExampleAdapter and use the relevant column selector to display the column text in the TextView referenced in the adapter.

Please note: when you import CursorAdapter don't import the Android support version, import the standard android.widget.CursorAdapter instead.

The adapter will also require a custom layout:

Difference between SelectedItem, SelectedValue and SelectedValuePath

To answer a little more conceptually:

SelectedValuePath defines which property (by its name) of the objects bound to the ListBox's ItemsSource will be used as the item's SelectedValue.

For example, if your ListBox is bound to a collection of Person objects, each of which has Name, Age, and Gender properties, SelectedValuePath=Name will cause the value of the selected Person's Name property to be returned in SelectedValue.

Note that if you override the ListBox's ControlTemplate (or apply a Style) that specifies what property should display, SelectedValuePath cannot be used.

SelectedItem, meanwhile, returns the entire Person object currently selected.

What does %~dp0 mean, and how does it work?

Another tip that would help a lot is that to set the current directory to a different drive one would have to use %~d0 first, then cd %~dp0. This will change the directory to the batch file's drive, then change to its folder.

Alternatively, for #oneLinerLovers, as @Omni pointed out in the comments cd /d %~dp0 will change both the drive and directory :)

There are not many good reasons this would fail, especially the regsvr32 step. Run dumpbin /exports on that dll. If you don't see DllRegisterServer then you've got a corrupt install. It should have more side-effects, you wouldn't be able to build C/C++ projects anymore.

One standard failure mode is running this on a 64-bit operating system. This is 32-bit unmanaged code, you would indeed get the 'class not registered' exception. Project + Properties, Build tab, change Platform Target to x86.

From the sed man page:

Normally, sed cyclically copies a line of input, not including its terminating newline character, into a pattern space, (unless there is something left after a "D" function), applies all of the commands with addresses that select that pattern space, copies the pattern space to the standard output, appending a newline, and deletes the pattern space.

It's operating on the line without the newline present, so the pattern you have there can't ever match. You need to do something else - like match against $ (end-of-line) or ^ (start-of-line).

Git workflow and rebase vs merge questions

"Conflicts" mean "parallel evolutions of a same content". So if it goes "all to hell" during a merge, it means you have massive evolutions on the same set of files.

The reason why a rebase is then better than a merge is that:

  • you rewrite your local commit history with the one of the master (and then reapply your work, resolving any conflict then)
  • the final merge will certainly be a "fast forward" one, because it will have all the commit history of the master, plus only your changes to reapply.

I confirm that the correct workflow in that case (evolutions on common set of files) is rebase first, then merge.

However, that means that, if you push your local branch (for backup reason), that branch should not be pulled (or at least used) by anyone else (since the commit history will be rewritten by the successive rebase).


On that topic (rebase then merge workflow), barraponto mentions in the comments two interesting posts, both from randyfay.com:

Using this technique, your work always goes on top of the public branch like a patch that is up-to-date with current HEAD.

Secure hash and salt for PHP passwords

DISCLAIMER: This answer was written in 2008.

Since then, PHP has given us password_hash and password_verify and, since their introduction, they are the recommended password hashing & checking method.

The theory of the answer is still a good read though.

TL;DR

Don'ts

  • Don't limit what characters users can enter for passwords. Only idiots do this.
  • Don't limit the length of a password. If your users want a sentence with supercalifragilisticexpialidocious in it, don't prevent them from using it.
  • Don't strip or escape HTML and special characters in the password.
  • Never store your user's password in plain-text.
  • Never email a password to your user except when they have lost theirs, and you sent a temporary one.
  • Never, ever log passwords in any manner.
  • Never hash passwords with SHA1 or MD5 or even SHA256! Modern crackers can exceed 60 and 180 billion hashes/second (respectively).
  • Don't mix bcrypt and with the raw output of hash(), either use hex output or base64_encode it. (This applies to any input that may have a rogue \0 in it, which can seriously weaken security.)

Dos

  • Use scrypt when you can; bcrypt if you cannot.
  • Use PBKDF2 if you cannot use either bcrypt or scrypt, with SHA2 hashes.
  • Reset everyone's passwords when the database is compromised.
  • Implement a reasonable 8-10 character minimum length, plus require at least 1 upper case letter, 1 lower case letter, a number, and a symbol. This will improve the entropy of the password, in turn making it harder to crack. (See the "What makes a good password?" section for some debate.)

Why hash passwords anyway?

The objective behind hashing passwords is simple: preventing malicious access to user accounts by compromising the database. So the goal of password hashing is to deter a hacker or cracker by costing them too much time or money to calculate the plain-text passwords. And time/cost are the best deterrents in your arsenal.

Another reason that you want a good, robust hash on a user accounts is to give you enough time to change all the passwords in the system. If your database is compromised you will need enough time to at least lock the system down, if not change every password in the database.

Jeremiah Grossman, CTO of Whitehat Security, stated on White Hat Security blog after a recent password recovery that required brute-force breaking of his password protection:

Interestingly, in living out this nightmare, I learned A LOT I didn’t know about password cracking, storage, and complexity. I’ve come to appreciate why password storage is ever so much more important than password complexity. If you don’t know how your password is stored, then all you really can depend upon is complexity. This might be common knowledge to password and crypto pros, but for the average InfoSec or Web Security expert, I highly doubt it.

What makes a good password anyway?

Entropy. (Not that I fully subscribe to Randall's viewpoint.)

In short, entropy is how much variation is within the password. When a password is only lowercase roman letters, that's only 26 characters. That isn't much variation. Alpha-numeric passwords are better, with 36 characters. But allowing upper and lower case, with symbols, is roughly 96 characters. That's a lot better than just letters. One problem is, to make our passwords memorable we insert patterns—which reduces entropy. Oops!

Password entropy is approximated easily. Using the full range of ascii characters (roughly 96 typeable characters) yields an entropy of 6.6 per character, which at 8 characters for a password is still too low (52.679 bits of entropy) for future security. But the good news is: longer passwords, and passwords with unicode characters, really increase the entropy of a password and make it harder to crack.

In the comments I talked with @popnoodles, who pointed out that enforcing a password policy of X length with X many letters, numbers, symbols, etc, can actually reduce entropy by making the password scheme more predictable. I do agree. Randomess, as truly random as possible, is always the safest but least memorable solution.

So far as I've been able to tell, making the world's best password is a Catch-22. Either its not memorable, too predictable, too short, too many unicode characters (hard to type on a Windows/Mobile device), too long, etc. No password is truly good enough for our purposes, so we must protect them as though they were in Fort Knox.

Best practices

Bcrypt and scrypt are the current best practices. Scrypt will be better than bcrypt in time, but it hasn't seen adoption as a standard by Linux/Unix or by webservers, and hasn't had in-depth reviews of its algorithm posted yet. But still, the future of the algorithm does look promising. If you are working with Ruby there is an scrypt gem that will help you out, and Node.js now has its own scrypt package. You can use Scrypt in PHP either via the Scrypt extension or the Libsodium extension (both are available in PECL).

I highly suggest reading the documentation for the crypt function if you want to understand how to use bcrypt, or finding yourself a good wrapper or use something like PHPASS for a more legacy implementation. I recommend a minimum of 12 rounds of bcrypt, if not 15 to 18.

I changed my mind about using bcrypt when I learned that bcrypt only uses blowfish's key schedule, with a variable cost mechanism. The latter lets you increase the cost to brute-force a password by increasing blowfish's already expensive key schedule.

Average practices

I almost can't imagine this situation anymore. PHPASS supports PHP 3.0.18 through 5.3, so it is usable on almost every installation imaginable—and should be used if you don't know for certain that your environment supports bcrypt.

But suppose that you cannot use bcrypt or PHPASS at all. What then?

Try an implementation of PDKBF2 with the maximum number of rounds that your environment/application/user-perception can tolerate. The lowest number I'd recommend is 2500 rounds. Also, make sure to use hash_hmac() if it is available to make the operation harder to reproduce.

Future Practices

Coming in PHP 5.5 is a full password protection library that abstracts away any pains of working with bcrypt. While most of us are stuck with PHP 5.2 and 5.3 in most common environments, especially shared hosts, @ircmaxell has built a compatibility layer for the coming API that is backward compatible to PHP 5.3.7.

Cryptography Recap & Disclaimer

The computational power required to actually crack a hashed password doesn't exist. The only way for computers to "crack" a password is to recreate it and simulate the hashing algorithm used to secure it. The speed of the hash is linearly related to its ability to be brute-forced. Worse still, most hash algorithms can be easily parallelized to perform even faster. This is why costly schemes like bcrypt and scrypt are so important.

You cannot possibly foresee all threats or avenues of attack, and so you must make your best effort to protect your users up front. If you do not, then you might even miss the fact that you were attacked until it's too late... and you're liable. To avoid that situation, act paranoid to begin with. Attack your own software (internally) and attempt to steal user credentials, or modify other user's accounts or access their data. If you don't test the security of your system, then you cannot blame anyone but yourself.

Lastly: I am not a cryptographer. Whatever I've said is my opinion, but I happen to think it's based on good ol' common sense ... and lots of reading. Remember, be as paranoid as possible, make things as hard to intrude as possible, and then, if you are still worried, contact a white-hat hacker or cryptographer to see what they say about your code/system.

Here are two methods to get more than 1 column in a scalar subquery (or inline subquery) and querying the lookup table only once. This is a bit convoluted but can be the very efficient in some special cases.

  1. You can use concatenation to get several columns at once:

  • You cannot mix plain and dynamic SQL the way you tried to do it. The whole statement is either all dynamic or all plain SQL. So I am building one dynamic statement to make this work. You may be interested in the chapter about executing dynamic commands in the manual.

  • The aggregate function count() returns bigint, but you had rowcount defined as integer, so you need an explicit cast ::int to make this work

  • I use dollar quoting to avoid quoting hell.

However, is this supposed to be a honeypot for SQL injection attacks or are you seriously going to use it? For your very private and secure use, it might be ok-ish - though I wouldn't even trust myself with a function like that. If there is any possible access for untrusted users, such a function is a loaded footgun. It's impossible to make this secure.

Craig (a sworn enemy of SQL injection!) might get a light stroke, when he sees what you forged from his piece of code in the answer to your preceding question. :)

The query itself seems rather odd, btw. But that's beside the point here.

I know I am very late, but I want to give contribution too. This error is really strange, because the browser is not able to understand how the changes should be rendered because the classes and their properties might have changed but not committed to the database.

So do one thing,

create one migration in Package Manager Console(Tools > NuGet Package Manager > Package Manager Console) using this command:

add-migration UpdateMigration

where UpdateMigration is the name of your Migration. You can give it any name of your choice but please be specific.

After that, we just need to update the database, so run this:

update-database

Now that you have committed your changes to the database, just refresh your browser and there you go!

If you want your script to return values, just do return [1,2,3] from a function wrapping your code but then you'd have to import your script from another script to even have any use for that information:

Here are the detailed steps needed to achieve this.

The existing commands can be simply run via the CLI terminal of VS-CODE. It is understood that Git is installed in the system, configured with desired username and email Id.

1) Navigate to the local project directory and create a local git repository:

2) Once that is successful, click on the 'Source Control' icon on the left navbar in VS-Code.One should be able to see files ready to be commit-ed. Press on 'Commit' button, provide comments, stage the changes and commit the files. Alternatively you can run from CLI

I am iterating over a list of topics that is stored in the model context, showing all groups with their topics, and after that all topics that do not have a group. BaseIdentity is an @Embedded composite key BTW.

The initial call of change() makes sure it will be executed on page re-load or if a value has been preselected by some initialization in the backend.

BTW: I am using "manual" form validation (see "is-valid"/"is-invalid"), because I (and users) didn't like that BS4 marks non-required empty fields as green. But that's byond scope of this Q and if you are interested then I can post it also.

Markdown and including multiple files

I know that this is an old question, but I have not seen any answers to this effect: Essentially, if you are using markdown and pandoc to convert your file to pdf, in your yaml data at the top of the page, you can include something like this:

Since pandoc using latex to convert all of your documents, the header-includes section calls the pdfpages package. Then when you include \includepdf{/path/to/pdf/document.pdf} it will insert whatever is include in that document. Furthermore, you can include multiple pdf files this way.

As a fun bonus, and this is only because I often use markdown, if you would like to include files other than markdown, for instance latex files. I have modified this answer somewhat. Say that you have a markdown file markdown1.md:

More Pythonic Way to Run a Process X Times

The for loop is definitely more pythonic, as it uses Python's higher level built in functionality to convey what you're doing both more clearly and concisely. The overhead of range vs xrange, and assigning an unused i variable, stem from the absence of a statement like Verilog's repeat statement. The main reason to stick to the for range solution is that other ways are more complex. For instance:

We also note that the for range version is an explicit example used in both the language reference and tutorial, although in that case the value is used. It does mean the form is bound to be more familiar than the while expansion of a C-style for loop.

"==" always compare the memory location or object references of the values. equals method always compare the values. But equals also indirectly uses the "==" operator to compare the values.

It is possible on your restart some shards were not recovered, causing the cluster to stay red.
If you hit:
http://<yourhost>:9200/_cluster/health/?level=shards you can look for red shards.

I have had issues on restart where shards end up in a non recoverable state. My solution was to simply delete that index completely. That is not an ideal solution for everyone.
