How to return a 200 HTTP Status Code from ASP.NET MVC 3 controller

You can simply set the status code of the response to 200 like the following

public ActionResult SomeMethod(parameters...)
{
   //others code here
   ...
   Response.StatusCode = 200;
   return YourObject;
}

Alter a SQL server function to accept new optional parameter

I have found the EXECUTE command as suggested here T-SQL - function with default parameters to work well. With this approach there is no 'DEFAULT' needed when calling the function, you just omit the parameter as you would with a stored procedure.

How do you move a file?

Check out section 5.14.2. Moving files and folders (or check out "move" in the Index of the help) of the TortoiseSVN help. You do a move via right-dragging. It also mentions that you need to commit from the parent folder to make it "one" revision. This works for doing the change in a working copy.

(Note that the SVN items in the following image will only show up if the destination folder has already been added to the repository.)

tortoise move menu

You can also do the move via the Repo Browser (section 5.23. The Repository Browser of the help).

Jasmine.js comparing arrays

You can compare an array like the below mentioned if the array has some values

it('should check if the array are equal', function() {
        var mockArr = [1, 2, 3];
        expect(mockArr ).toEqual([1, 2, 3]);
 });

But if the array that is returned from some function has more than 1 elements and all are zero then verify by using

expect(mockArray[0]).toBe(0);

How do I truly reset every setting in Visual Studio 2012?

Just repair Visual Studio itself from the control panel and that should do the trick!

List of tuples to dictionary

The dict constructor accepts input exactly as you have it (key/value tuples).

>>> l = [('a',1),('b',2)]
>>> d = dict(l)
>>> d
{'a': 1, 'b': 2}

From the documentation:

For example, these all return a dictionary equal to {"one": 1, "two": 2}:

dict(one=1, two=2)
dict({'one': 1, 'two': 2})
dict(zip(('one', 'two'), (1, 2)))
dict([['two', 2], ['one', 1]])

Difference between two dates in Python

Another short solution:

from datetime import date

def diff_dates(date1, date2):
    return abs(date2-date1).days

def main():
    d1 = date(2013,1,1)
    d2 = date(2013,9,13)
    result1 = diff_dates(d2, d1)
    print '{} days between {} and {}'.format(result1, d1, d2)
    print ("Happy programmer's day!")

How to use MySQL dump from a remote machine

No one mentions anything about the --single-transaction option. People should use it by default for InnoDB tables to ensure data consistency. In this case:

mysqldump --single-transaction -h [remoteserver.com] -u [username] -p [password] [yourdatabase] > [dump_file.sql]

This makes sure the dump is run in a single transaction that's isolated from the others, preventing backup of a partial transaction.

For instance, consider you have a game server where people can purchase gears with their account credits. There are essentially 2 operations against the database:

  1. Deduct the amount from their credits
  2. Add the gear to their arsenal

Now if the dump happens in between these operations, the next time you restore the backup would result in the user losing the purchased item, because the second operation isn't dumped in the SQL dump file.

While it's just an option, there are basically not much of a reason why you don't use this option with mysqldump.

Requested bean is currently in creation: Is there an unresolvable circular reference?

@Resource annotation on field level also could be used to declare look up at runtime

Passing 'this' to an onclick event

You can always call funciton differently: foo.call(this); in this way you will be able to use this context inside the function.

Example:

<button onclick="foo.call(this)" id="bar">Button</button>?

var foo = function()
{
    this.innerHTML = "Not a button";
};

res.sendFile absolute path

Just try this instead:

res.sendFile('public/index1.html' , { root : __dirname});

This worked for me. the root:__dirname will take the address where server.js is in the above example and then to get to the index1.html ( in this case) the returned path is to get to the directory where public folder is.

How to see tomcat is running or not

Go to the start menu. Open up cmd (command prompt) and type in the following.

wmic process list brief | find /i "tomcat"

This would tell you if the tomcat is running or not.

Unable to install Android Studio in Ubuntu

None of these options worked for me on Ubuntu 12.10 (yeah, I need to upgrade). However, I found an easy solution. Download the source from here: https://github.com/miracle2k/android-platform_sdk/blob/master/emulator/mksdcard/mksdcard.c. Then simply compile with "gcc mksdcard.c -o mksdcard". Backup mksdcard in the SDK tools subfolder and replace with the newly compiled one. Android Studio will now be happy with your SDK.

How do I list all the columns in a table?

How to get the new value of an HTML input after a keypress has modified it?

<html>
    <head>
        <script>
        function callme(field) {
            alert("field:" + field.value);
        }
        </script>
    </head>
    <body>
        <form name="f1">
            <input type="text" onkeyup="callme(this);" name="text1">
        </form>
    </body>
</html>

It looks like you can use the onkeyup to get the new value of the HTML input control. Hope it helps.

How to compare strings in an "if" statement?

You're looking for the function strcmp, or strncmp from string.h.

Since strings are just arrays, you need to compare each character, so this function will do that for you:

if (strcmp(favoriteDairyProduct, "cheese") == 0)
{
    printf("You like cheese too!");
}
else
{
    printf("I like cheese more.");
}

Find the directory part (minus the filename) of a full path in access 97

Try this function:

Function FolderPath(FilePath As String) As String

    '--------------------------------------------------
    'Returns the folder path form the file path.

    'Written by:    Christos Samaras
    'Date:          06/11/2013
    '--------------------------------------------------

    Dim FileName As String

    With WorksheetFunction
        FileName = Mid(FilePath, .Find("*", .Substitute(FilePath, "\", "*", Len(FilePath) - _
                    Len(.Substitute(FilePath, "\", "")))) + 1, Len(FilePath))
    End With

    FolderPath = Left(FilePath, Len(FilePath) - Len(FileName) - 1)

End Function

If you don't want to remove the last backslash "\" at the end of the folder's path, change the last line with this:

FolderPath = Left(FilePath, Len(FilePath) - Len(FileName))

Example:

FolderPath("C:\Users\Christos\Desktop\LAT Analysers Signal Correction\1\TP 14_03_2013_5.csv")

gives:

C:\Users\Christos\Desktop\LAT Analysers Signal Correction\1

or

C:\Users\Christos\Desktop\LAT Analysers Signal Correction\1\

in the second case (note that there is a backslash at the end).

I hope it helps...

Difference between $(this) and event.target?

http://api.jquery.com/on/ states:

When jQuery calls a handler, the this keyword is a reference to the element where the event is being delivered; for directly bound events this is the element where the event was attached and for delegated events this is an element matching selector. (Note that this may not be equal to event.target if the event has bubbled from a descendant element.)

To create a jQuery object from the element so that it can be used with jQuery methods, use $( this ).

If we have

<input type="button" class="btn" value ="btn1">
<input type="button" class="btn" value ="btn2">
<input type="button" class="btn" value ="btn3">

<div id="outer">
    <input type="button"  value ="OuterB" id ="OuterB">
    <div id="inner">
        <input type="button" class="btn" value ="InnerB" id ="InnerB">
    </div>
</div>

Check the below output:

<script>
    $(function(){
        $(".btn").on("click",function(event){
            console.log($(this));
            console.log($(event.currentTarget));
            console.log($(event.target));
        });

        $("#outer").on("click",function(event){
            console.log($(this));
            console.log($(event.currentTarget));
            console.log($(event.target));
        })
    })
</script>

Note that I use $ to wrap the dom element in order to create a jQuery object, which is how we always do.

You would find that for the first case, this ,event.currentTarget,event.target are all referenced to the same element.

While in the second case, when the event delegate to some wrapped element are triggered, event.target would be referenced to the triggered element, while this and event.currentTarget are referenced to where the event is delivered.

For this and event.currentTarget, they are exactly the same thing according to http://api.jquery.com/event.currenttarget/

'^M' character at end of lines

The easiest way is to use vi. I know that sounds terrible but its simple and already installed on most UNIX environments. The ^M is a new line from Windows/DOS environment.

from the command prompt: $ vi filename

Then press ":" to get to command mode.

Search and Replace all Globally is :%s/^M//g "Press and hold control then press V then M" which will replace ^M with nothing.

Then to write and quit enter ":wq" Done!

Input and Output binary streams using JERSEY?

Using Jersey 2.16 File download is very easy.

Below is the example for the ZIP file

@GET
@Path("zipFile")
@Produces("application/zip")
public Response getFile() {
    File f = new File(ZIP_FILE_PATH);

    if (!f.exists()) {
        throw new WebApplicationException(404);
    }

    return Response.ok(f)
            .header("Content-Disposition",
                    "attachment; filename=server.zip").build();
}

How do I use Join-Path to combine more than two strings into a file path?

Since PowerShell 6.0, Join-Path has a new parameter called -AdditionalChildPath and can combine multiple parts of a path out-of-the-box. Either by providing the extra parameter or by just supplying a list of elements.

Example from the documentation:

Join-Path a b c d e f g
a\b\c\d\e\f\g

So in PowerShell 6.0 and above your variant

$path = Join-Path C: "Program Files" "Microsoft Office"

works as expected!

What size should TabBar images be?

30x30 is points, which means 30px @1x, 60px @2x, not somewhere in-between. Also, it's not a great idea to embed the title of the tab into the image—you're going to have pretty poor accessibility and localization results like that.

Check if table exists in SQL Server

IF EXISTS (

BEGIN
--TABLE EXISTS
END

ELSE BEGIN
--TABLE DOES NOT EXISTS

Base64 decode snippet in C++

Using base-n mini lib, you can do the following:

some_data_t in[] { ... };
constexpr int len = sizeof(in)/sizeof(in[0]);

std::string encoded;
bn::encode_b64(in, in + len, std::back_inserter(encoded));

some_data_t out[len];
bn::decode_b64(encoded.begin(), encoded.end(), out);

The API is generic, iterator-based.

How do I run all Python unit tests in a directory?

Here is my approach by creating a wrapper to run tests from the command line:

#!/usr/bin/env python3
import os, sys, unittest, argparse, inspect, logging

if __name__ == '__main__':
    # Parse arguments.
    parser = argparse.ArgumentParser(add_help=False)
    parser.add_argument("-?", "--help", action="help", help="show this help message and exit" )
    parser.add_argument("-v", "--verbose",  action="store_true", dest="verbose",  help="increase output verbosity" )
    parser.add_argument("-d", "--debug",    action="store_true", dest="debug",    help="show debug messages" )
    parser.add_argument("-h", "--host",     action="store",      dest="host",     help="Destination host" )
    parser.add_argument("-b", "--browser",  action="store",      dest="browser",  help="Browser driver.", choices=["Firefox", "Chrome", "IE", "Opera", "PhantomJS"] )
    parser.add_argument("-r", "--reports-dir", action="store",   dest="dir",      help="Directory to save screenshots.", default="reports")
    parser.add_argument('files', nargs='*')
    args = parser.parse_args()

    # Load files from the arguments.
    for filename in args.files:
        exec(open(filename).read())

    # See: http://codereview.stackexchange.com/q/88655/15346
    def make_suite(tc_class):
        testloader = unittest.TestLoader()
        testnames = testloader.getTestCaseNames(tc_class)
        suite = unittest.TestSuite()
        for name in testnames:
            suite.addTest(tc_class(name, cargs=args))
        return suite

    # Add all tests.
    alltests = unittest.TestSuite()
    for name, obj in inspect.getmembers(sys.modules[__name__]):
        if inspect.isclass(obj) and name.startswith("FooTest"):
            alltests.addTest(make_suite(obj))

    # Set-up logger
    verbose = bool(os.environ.get('VERBOSE', args.verbose))
    debug   = bool(os.environ.get('DEBUG', args.debug))
    if verbose or debug:
        logging.basicConfig( stream=sys.stdout )
        root = logging.getLogger()
        root.setLevel(logging.INFO if verbose else logging.DEBUG)
        ch = logging.StreamHandler(sys.stdout)
        ch.setLevel(logging.INFO if verbose else logging.DEBUG)
        ch.setFormatter(logging.Formatter('%(asctime)s %(levelname)s: %(name)s: %(message)s'))
        root.addHandler(ch)
    else:
        logging.basicConfig(stream=sys.stderr)

    # Run tests.
    result = unittest.TextTestRunner(verbosity=2).run(alltests)
    sys.exit(not result.wasSuccessful())

For sake of simplicity, please excuse my non-PEP8 coding standards.

Then you can create BaseTest class for common components for all your tests, so each of your test would simply look like:

from BaseTest import BaseTest
class FooTestPagesBasic(BaseTest):
    def test_foo(self):
        driver = self.driver
        driver.get(self.base_url + "/")

To run, you simply specifying tests as part of the command line arguments, e.g.:

./run_tests.py -h http://example.com/ tests/**/*.py

How to redirect stdout to both file and console with scripting?

Use logging module to debug and follow your app

Here is how I managed to log to file and to console / stdout

import logging
logging.basicConfig(level=logging.INFO,
                    format='%(asctime)s - %(levelname)s - %(message)s',
                    filename='logs_file',
                    filemode='w')
# Until here logs only to file: 'logs_file'

# define a new Handler to log to console as well
console = logging.StreamHandler()
# optional, set the logging level
console.setLevel(logging.INFO)
# set a format which is the same for console use
formatter = logging.Formatter('%(asctime)s - %(levelname)s - %(message)s')
# tell the handler to use this format
console.setFormatter(formatter)
# add the handler to the root logger
logging.getLogger('').addHandler(console)

# Now, we can log to both ti file and console
logging.info('Jackdaws love my big sphinx of quartz.')
logging.info('Hello world')

How to reload or re-render the entire page using AngularJS

If you want to refresh the controller while refreshing any services you are using, you can use this solution:

  • Inject $state

i.e.

app.controller('myCtrl',['$scope','MyService','$state', function($scope,MyService,$state) {

    //At the point where you want to refresh the controller including MyServices

    $state.reload();

    //OR:

    $state.go($state.current, {}, {reload: true});
}

This will refresh the controller and the HTML as well you can call it Refresh or Re-Render.

How to increase MaximumErrorCount in SQL Server 2008 Jobs or Packages?

If I have open a package in BIDS ("Business Intelligence Development Studio", the tool you use to design the packages), and do not select any item in it, I have a "Properties" pane in the bottom right containing - among others, the MaximumErrorCount property. If you do not see it, maybe it is minimized and you have to open it (have a look at tabs in the right).

If you cannot find it this way, try the menu: View/Properties Window.

Or try the F4 key.

Create a circular button in BS3

(Not cross-browser tested), but this is my answer:

.btn-circle {
  width: 40px;
  height: 40px;
  line-height: 40px; /* adjust line height to align vertically*/
  padding:0;
  border-radius: 50%;
}
  • vertical center via the line-height property
  • padding becomes useless and must be reset
  • border-radius independant of the button size

CSS3 transition on click using pure CSS

As jeremyjjbrow said, :active pseudo won't persist. But there's a hack for doing it on pure css. You can wrap it on a <a> tag, and apply the :active on it, like this:

.test:active .crossRotate {
    transform: rotate(45deg);
    -webkit-transform: rotate(45deg);
    -ms-transform: rotate(45deg);
    }

Try it out... It works (at least on Chrome)!

Gradle - Could not target platform: 'Java SE 8' using tool chain: 'JDK 7 (1.7)'

This is what worked for me (Intellij Idea 2018.1.2):

2) Gradle JVM: change to version 1.8

3) Re-run the gradle task

How to get a value inside an ArrayList java

You haven't shown your Car type, but assuming you'd want the price of the first car, you could use:

public static void processCars(ArrayList<Car> cars) {
    Car car = cars.get(0);
    System.out.println(car.getPrice());
}

Note that I've changed the name of the list from car to cars - this is a list of cars, not a single car. (I've changed the method name in a similar way.)

If you only want the method to process a single car, you should change the parameter to be of type Car:

public static void processCar(Car car)

and then call it like this:

// In the main method
processCar(cars.get(0));

If you do leave it as processing the whole list, it would be worth generalizing the parameter to List<Car> - it's unlikely that you'll really require that it's an ArrayList<Car>.

List<object>.RemoveAll - How to create an appropriate Predicate

This should work (where enquiryId is the id you need to match against):

vehicles.RemoveAll(vehicle => vehicle.EnquiryID == enquiryId);

What this does is passes each vehicle in the list into the lambda predicate, evaluating the predicate. If the predicate returns true (ie. vehicle.EnquiryID == enquiryId), then the current vehicle will be removed from the list.

If you know the types of the objects in your collections, then using the generic collections is a better approach. It avoids casting when retrieving objects from the collections, but can also avoid boxing if the items in the collection are value types (which can cause performance issues).

How to gracefully handle the SIGKILL signal in Java

I would expect that the JVM gracefully interrupts (thread.interrupt()) all the running threads created by the application, at least for signals SIGINT (kill -2) and SIGTERM (kill -15).

This way, the signal will be forwarded to them, allowing a gracefully thread cancellation and resource finalization in the standard ways.

But this is not the case (at least in my JVM implementation: Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.8.0_25-b17), Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 25.25-b02, mixed mode).

As other users commented, the usage of shutdown hooks seems mandatory.

So, how do I would handle it?

Well first, I do not care about it in all programs, only in those where I want to keep track of user cancellations and unexpected ends. For example, imagine that your java program is a process managed by other. You may want to differentiate whether it has been terminated gracefully (SIGTERM from the manager process) or a shutdown has occurred (in order to relaunch automatically the job on startup).

As a basis, I always make my long-running threads periodically aware of interrupted status and throw an InterruptedException if they interrupted. This enables execution finalization in way controlled by the developer (also producing the same outcome as standard blocking operations). Then, at the top level of the thread stack, InterruptedException is captured and appropriate clean-up performed. These threads are coded to known how to respond to an interruption request. High cohesion design.

So, in these cases, I add a shutdown hook, that does what I think the JVM should do by default: interrupt all the non-daemon threads created by my application that are still running:

Runtime.getRuntime().addShutdownHook(new Thread() {
    @Override
    public void run() {
        System.out.println("Interrupting threads");
        Set<Thread> runningThreads = Thread.getAllStackTraces().keySet();
        for (Thread th : runningThreads) {
            if (th != Thread.currentThread()
                && !th.isDaemon()
                && th.getClass().getName().startsWith("org.brutusin")) {
                System.out.println("Interrupting '" + th.getClass() + "' termination");
                th.interrupt();
            }
        }
        for (Thread th : runningThreads) {
            try {
                if (th != Thread.currentThread()
                && !th.isDaemon()
                && th.isInterrupted()) {
                    System.out.println("Waiting '" + th.getName() + "' termination");
                    th.join();
                }
            } catch (InterruptedException ex) {
                System.out.println("Shutdown interrupted");
            }
        }
        System.out.println("Shutdown finished");
    }
});

Get the closest number out of an array

I don't know if I'm supposed to answer an old question, but as this post appears first on Google searches, I hoped that you would forgive me adding my solution & my 2c here.

Being lazy, I couldn't believe that the solution for this question would be a LOOP, so I searched a bit more and came back with filter function:

var myArray = [2, 42, 82, 122, 162, 202, 242, 282, 322, 362];
var myValue = 80;

function BiggerThan(inArray) {
  return inArray > myValue;
}

var arrBiggerElements = myArray.filter(BiggerThan);
var nextElement = Math.min.apply(null, arrBiggerElements);
alert(nextElement);

That's all !

Convert char array to string use C

You can use strcpy but remember to end the array with '\0'

char array[20]; char string[100];

array[0]='1'; array[1]='7'; array[2]='8'; array[3]='.'; array[4]='9'; array[5]='\0';
strcpy(string, array);
printf("%s\n", string);

How to auto-format code in Eclipse?

Also note that you can also "protect" a block from being formatted with @formatter:off and @formatter:on, avoiding a reformat on a comment for example, like in:

// Master dataframe
Dataset<Row> countyStateDf = df
    .withColumn(
        "countyState",
        split(df.col("label"), ", "));

// I could split the column in one operation if I wanted:
// @formatter:off
//    Dataset<Row> countyState0Df = df
//        .withColumn(
//            "state",
//            split(df.col("label"), ", ").getItem(1))
//        .withColumn(
//            "county",
//            split(df.col("label"), ", ").getItem(0));
// @formatter:on

countyStateDf.sample(.01).show(5, false);

Double % formatting question for printf in Java

Yes, %d is for decimal (integer), double expect %f. But simply using %f will default to up to precision 6. To print all of the precision digits for a double, you can pass it via string as:

System.out.printf("%s \r\n",String.valueOf(d));

or

System.out.printf("%s \r\n",Double.toString(d));

This is what println do by default:

System.out.println(d)

(and terminates the line)

Setting selected option in laravel form

To echo some other answers here, the code I just used with 5.6 is this

{{ Form::select('status', ['Draft' => 'Draft', 'Sent' => 'Sent', 'Paid' => 'Paid'], $model->status, ['id' => 'status']) }}

In order to be able to use the Form Helper from LaravelCollective I took a look at https://laravelcollective.com/docs/master/html#drop-down-lists

I also had to composer require the dependency also so that I could use it in my projects

composer require "laravelcollective/html":"^5"

Lastly I altered my config/app.php and added the following in the $aliases array

    'Form' => Collective\Html\FormFacade::class,

https://laravelcollective.com/docs/master/html should be consulted if any of the above ceases to work.

How many parameters are too many?

I would base my answer on how often the function is called.

If it is an init function that is only ever called once then let it take 10 parms or more, who cares.

If it is called a bunch of times per frame then I tend to make a structure and just pass a pointer to it since that tends to be faster ( assuming that you are not rebuilding the struct every time as well ).

Access Control Request Headers, is added to header in AJAX request with jQuery

From client side, I cant solve this problem. From nodejs express side, you can use cors module to handle it.

var express       = require('express');
var app           = express();
var bodyParser = require('body-parser');
var cors = require('cors');

var port = 3000;
var ip = '127.0.0.1';

app.use('*/myapi',
          cors(), // with this row OPTIONS has handled
          bodyParser.text({type:'text/*'}),
          function( req, res, next ){
    console.log( '\n.----------------' + req.method + '------------------------' );
        console.log( '| prot:'+req.protocol );
        console.log( '| host:'+req.get('host') );
        console.log( '| url:'+req.originalUrl );
        console.log( '| body:',req.body );
        //console.log( '| req:',req );
    console.log( '.----------------' + req.method + '------------------------' );
    next();
    });

app.listen(port, ip, function() {
    console.log('Listening to port:  ' + port );
});

console.log(('dir:'+__dirname ));
console.log('The server is up and running at http://'+ip+':'+port+'/');

what is .subscribe in angular?

A Subscription is an object that represents a disposable resource, usually the execution of an Observable. A Subscription has one important method, unsubscribe, that takes no argument and just disposes of the resource held by the subscription.

import { interval } from 'rxjs';

const observable = interval(1000);
const subscription = observable.subscribe(a=> console.log(a));

/** This cancels the ongoing Observable execution which
was started by calling subscribe with an Observer.*/

subscription.unsubscribe();

A Subscription essentially just has an unsubscribe() function to release resources or cancel Observable executions.

import { interval } from 'rxjs';

const observable1 = interval(400);
const observable2 = interval(300);

const subscription = observable1.subscribe(x => console.log('first: ' + x));
const childSubscription = observable2.subscribe(x => console.log('second: ' + x));

subscription.add(childSubscription);

setTimeout(() => {
// It unsubscribes BOTH subscription and childSubscription
subscription.unsubscribe();
}, 1000);

According to the official documentation, Angular should unsubscribe for you, but apparently, there is a bug.

Exception in thread "main" java.util.NoSuchElementException

The nextInt() method leaves the \n (end line) symbol and is picked up immediately by nextLine(), skipping over the next input. What you want to do is use nextLine() for everything, and parse it later:

String nextIntString = keyboard.nextLine(); //get the number as a single line
int nextInt = Integer.parseInt(nextIntString); //convert the string to an int

This is by far the easiest way to avoid problems--don't mix your "next" methods. Use only nextLine() and then parse ints or separate words afterwards.

Also, make sure you use only one Scanner if your are only using one terminal for input. That could be another reason for the exception.

Last note: compare a String with the .equals() function, not the == operator.

if (playAgain == "yes"); // Causes problems
if (playAgain.equals("yes")); // Works every time

Postgres could not connect to server

For me it was an apache upgrade that caused the problem. I could still run psql in console or call db directly from kdevelop. Also it worked to add "host=localhost" to connection string.

BUT the real problem was that apache had changed to private tmp.

Solution: Update /usr/lib/systemd/system/apache2.service and change PrivateTmp=true to PrivateTmp=false.

I am working on OpenSuse OS, but I guess that something similar could happen on Mac.

In your code you can do something like this

foreach($mentors as $mentor)

You can also combine child pseudo selectors:

div:not(:first-child):not(:last-child) {
  margin-left: 20px;
  margin-right: 20px;
}

Original purpose of <input type="hidden">?

In short, the original purpose was to make a field which will be submitted with form's submit. Sometimes, there were need to store some information in hidden field(for example, id of user) and submit it with form's submit.

From HTML September 22, 1995 specification

An INPUT element with `TYPE=HIDDEN' represents a hidden field.The user does not interact with this field; instead, the VALUE attribute specifies the value of the field. The NAME and VALUE attributes are required.

Why are unnamed namespaces used and what are their benefits?

In addition to the other answers to this question, using an anonymous namespace can also improve performance. As symbols within the namespace do not need any external linkage, the compiler is freer to perform aggressive optimization of the code within the namespace. For example, a function which is called multiple times once in a loop can be inlined without any impact on the code size.

For example, on my system the following code takes around 70% of the run time if the anonymous namespace is used (x86-64 gcc-4.6.3 and -O2; note that the extra code in add_val makes the compiler not want to include it twice).

#include <iostream>

namespace {
  double a;
  void b(double x)
  {
    a -= x;
  }
  void add_val(double x)
  {
    a += x;
    if(x==0.01) b(0);
    if(x==0.02) b(0.6);
    if(x==0.03) b(-0.1);
    if(x==0.04) b(0.4);
  }
}

int main()
{
  a = 0;
  for(int i=0; i<1000000000; ++i)
    {
      add_val(i*1e-10);
    }
  std::cout << a << '\n';
  return 0;
}

Creating Threads in python

There are a few problems with your code:

def MyThread ( threading.thread ):
  • You can't subclass with a function; only with a class
  • If you were going to use a subclass you'd want threading.Thread, not threading.thread

If you really want to do this with only functions, you have two options:

With threading:

import threading
def MyThread1():
    pass
def MyThread2():
    pass

t1 = threading.Thread(target=MyThread1, args=[])
t2 = threading.Thread(target=MyThread2, args=[])
t1.start()
t2.start()

With thread:

import thread
def MyThread1():
    pass
def MyThread2():
    pass

thread.start_new_thread(MyThread1, ())
thread.start_new_thread(MyThread2, ())

How to calculate modulus of large numbers?

Chinese Remainder Theorem comes to mind as an initial point as 221 = 13 * 17. So, break this down into 2 parts that get combined in the end, one for mod 13 and one for mod 17. Second, I believe there is some proof of a^(p-1) = 1 mod p for all non zero a which also helps reduce your problem as 5^55 becomes 5^3 for the mod 13 case as 13*4=52. If you look under the subject of "Finite Fields" you may find some good results on how to solve this.

EDIT: The reason I mention the factors is that this creates a way to factor zero into non-zero elements as if you tried something like 13^2 * 17^4 mod 221, the answer is zero since 13*17=221. A lot of large numbers aren't going to be prime, though there are ways to find large primes as they are used a lot in cryptography and other areas within Mathematics.

How do I test if a string is empty in Objective-C?

One of the best solution I ever seen (better than Matt G's one) is this improved inline function I picked up on some Git Hub repo (Wil Shipley's one, but I can't find the link) :

// Check if the "thing" passed is empty
static inline BOOL isEmpty(id thing) {
    return thing == nil
    || [thing isKindOfClass:[NSNull class]]
    || ([thing respondsToSelector:@selector(length)]
        && [(NSData *)thing length] == 0)
    || ([thing respondsToSelector:@selector(count)]
        && [(NSArray *)thing count] == 0);
}

How to check file MIME type with javascript before upload?

As Drake states this could be done with FileReader. However, what I present here is a functional version. Take in consideration that the big problem with doing this with JavaScript is to reset the input file. Well, this restricts to only JPG (for other formats you will have to change the mime type and the magic number):

<form id="form-id">
  <input type="file" id="input-id" accept="image/jpeg"/>
</form>

<script type="text/javascript">
    $(function(){
        $("#input-id").on('change', function(event) {
            var file = event.target.files[0];
            if(file.size>=2*1024*1024) {
                alert("JPG images of maximum 2MB");
                $("#form-id").get(0).reset(); //the tricky part is to "empty" the input file here I reset the form.
                return;
            }

            if(!file.type.match('image/jp.*')) {
                alert("only JPG images");
                $("#form-id").get(0).reset(); //the tricky part is to "empty" the input file here I reset the form.
                return;
            }

            var fileReader = new FileReader();
            fileReader.onload = function(e) {
                var int32View = new Uint8Array(e.target.result);
                //verify the magic number
                // for JPG is 0xFF 0xD8 0xFF 0xE0 (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_file_signatures)
                if(int32View.length>4 && int32View[0]==0xFF && int32View[1]==0xD8 && int32View[2]==0xFF && int32View[3]==0xE0) {
                    alert("ok!");
                } else {
                    alert("only valid JPG images");
                    $("#form-id").get(0).reset(); //the tricky part is to "empty" the input file here I reset the form.
                    return;
                }
            };
            fileReader.readAsArrayBuffer(file);
        });
    });
</script>

Take in consideration that this was tested on latest versions of Firefox and Chrome, and on IExplore 10.

For a complete list of magic number see Wikipedia.

How to convert NUM to INT in R?

You can use convert from hablar to change a column of the data frame quickly.

library(tidyverse)
library(hablar)

x <- tibble(var = c(1.34, 4.45, 6.98))

x %>%
  convert(int(var))

gives you:

# A tibble: 3 x 1
    var
  <int>
1     1
2     4
3     6

What is char ** in C?

well, char * means a pointer point to char, it is different from char array.

char amessage[] = "this is an array"; /* define an array*/
char *pmessage = "this is a pointer"; /* define a pointer*/

And, char ** means a pointer point to a char pointer.

You can look some books about details about pointer and array.

How does the "this" keyword work?

this use for Scope just like this

  <script type="text/javascript" language="javascript">
$('#tbleName tbody tr').each(function{
var txt='';
txt += $(this).find("td").eq(0).text();
\\same as above but synatx different
var txt1='';
 txt1+=$('#tbleName tbody tr').eq(0).text();
alert(txt1)
});
</script>

value of txt1 and txt is same in Above example $(this)=$('#tbleName tbody tr') is Same

How do you disable viewport zooming on Mobile Safari?

As mentioned this solution basically works as of late 2020:

document.addEventListener(
    'gesturestart', (e) => e.preventDefault()
);

But the downside is that while you are scrolling you'd still be able to pinch and then it gets stuck. The solution is to disable scrolling.

body {
    overflow: hidden;
}

But, what if you still wanted the page to be scrolled? You can still do it with another <div> set as overflow:auto:

<body>
    <div id='app'></div>
</div>

and then

body {
    overflow: hidden;
}

 #app {
     -webkit-overflow-scrolling: touch;
      height: 100vh;
      height: -webkit-fill-available;
      overflow: auto;
 }

java - iterating a linked list

I found 5 main ways to iterate over a Linked List in Java (including the Java 8 way):

  1. For Loop
  2. Enhanced For Loop
  3. While Loop
  4. Iterator
  5. Collections’s stream() util (Java8)

For loop

LinkedList<String> linkedList = new LinkedList<>();
System.out.println("==> For Loop Example.");
for (int i = 0; i < linkedList.size(); i++) {
    System.out.println(linkedList.get(i));
}

Enhanced for loop

for (String temp : linkedList) {
    System.out.println(temp);
}

While loop

int i = 0;
while (i < linkedList.size()) {
    System.out.println(linkedList.get(i));
    i++;
}

Iterator

Iterator<String> iterator = linkedList.iterator();
while (iterator.hasNext()) {
    System.out.println(iterator.next());
}

collection stream() util (Java 8)

linkedList.forEach((temp) -> {
    System.out.println(temp);
});

One thing should be pointed out is that the running time of For Loop or While Loop is O(n square) because get(i) operation takes O(n) time(see this for details). The other 3 ways take linear time and performs better.

Declare a Range relative to the Active Cell with VBA

There is an .Offset property on a Range class which allows you to do just what you need

ActiveCell.Offset(numRows, numCols)

follow up on a comment:

Dim newRange as Range
Set newRange = Range(ActiveCell, ActiveCell.Offset(numRows, numCols))

and you can verify by MsgBox newRange.Address

and here's how to assign this range to an array

Encode a FileStream to base64 with c#

When dealing with large streams, like a file sized over 4GB - you don't want to load the file into memory (as a Byte[]) because not only is it very slow, but also may cause a crash as even in 64-bit processes a Byte[] cannot exceed 2GB (or 4GB with gcAllowVeryLargeObjects).

Fortunately there's a neat helper in .NET called ToBase64Transform which processes a stream in chunks. For some reason Microsoft put it in System.Security.Cryptography and it implements ICryptoTransform (for use with CryptoStream), but disregard that ("a rose by any other name...") just because you aren't performing any cryprographic tasks.

You use it with CryptoStream like so:

using System.Security.Cryptography;
using System.IO;

//

using( FileStream inputFile = new FileStream( @"C:\VeryLargeFile.bin", FileMode.Open, FileAccess.Read, FileShare.None, bufferSize: 1024 * 1024, useAsync: true ) ) // When using `useAsync: true` you get better performance with buffers much larger than the default 4096 bytes.
using( CryptoStream base64Stream = new CryptoStream( inputFile, new ToBase64Transform(), CryptoStreamMode.Read ) )
using( FileStream   outputFile   = new FileStream( @"C:\VeryLargeBase64File.txt", FileMode.CreateNew, FileAccess.Write, FileShare.None, bufferSize: 1024 * 1024, useAsync: true ) )
{
    await base64Stream.CopyToAsync( outputFile ).ConfigureAwait(false);
}

How to properly ignore exceptions

For completeness:

>>> def divide(x, y):
...     try:
...         result = x / y
...     except ZeroDivisionError:
...         print("division by zero!")
...     else:
...         print("result is", result)
...     finally:
...         print("executing finally clause")

Also note that you can capture the exception like this:

>>> try:
...     this_fails()
... except ZeroDivisionError as err:
...     print("Handling run-time error:", err)

...and re-raise the exception like this:

>>> try:
...     raise NameError('HiThere')
... except NameError:
...     print('An exception flew by!')
...     raise

How to center align the ActionBar title in Android?

It works nicely.

activity = (AppCompatActivity) getActivity();

activity.getSupportActionBar().setDisplayOptions(ActionBar.DISPLAY_SHOW_CUSTOM);

LayoutInflater inflater = (LayoutInflater) activity.getSystemService(Context.LAYOUT_INFLATER_SERVICE);
View v = inflater.inflate(R.layout.custom_actionbar, null);

ActionBar.LayoutParams p = new ActionBar.LayoutParams(
        ViewGroup.LayoutParams.MATCH_PARENT,
        ViewGroup.LayoutParams.MATCH_PARENT,
        Gravity.CENTER);

((TextView) v.findViewById(R.id.title)).setText(FRAGMENT_TITLE);

activity.getSupportActionBar().setCustomView(v, p);
activity.getSupportActionBar().setDisplayShowTitleEnabled(true);
activity.getSupportActionBar().setDisplayHomeAsUpEnabled(true);

Below layout of custom_actionbar:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
    android:layout_width="match_parent"
    android:layout_height="match_parent">

    <TextView
        android:id="@+id/title"
        android:layout_width="wrap_content"
        android:text="Example"

        android:maxLines="1"
        android:textAppearance="?android:attr/textAppearanceMedium"
        android:textColor="@color/colorBlack" />

How to close a window using jQuery

You can only use the window.close function when you have opened the window using window.open(), so I use the following function:

function close_window(url){
    var newWindow = window.open('', '_self', ''); //open the current window
    window.close(url);
 }

Verify if file exists or not in C#

Simple answer is that you can't - you won't be able to check a for a file on their machine from an ASP website, as to do so would be a dangerous risk for them.

You have to give them a file upload control - and there's not much you can do with that control. For security reasons javascript can't really touch it.

<asp:FileUpload ID="FileUpload1" runat="server" />

They then pick a file to upload, and you have to deal with any empty file that they might send up server side.

How to add image background to btn-default twitter-bootstrap button?

Instead of using input type button you can use button and insert the image inside the button content.

<button class="btn btn-default">
     <img src="http://i.stack.imgur.com/e2S63.png" width="20" /> Sign In with Facebook
</button>

The problem with doing this only with CSS is that you cannot set linear-gradient to the background you must use solid color.

.sign-in-facebook {
    background: url('http://i.stack.imgur.com/e2S63.png') #f2f2f2;
    background-position: -9px -7px;

How to write MySQL query where A contains ( "a" or "b" )

I've used most of the times the LIKE option and it works just fine. I just like to share one of my latest experiences where I used INSTR function. Regardless of the reasons that made me consider this options, what's important here is that the use is similar: instr(A, 'text 1') > 0 or instr(A, 'text 2') > 0 Another option could be: (instr(A, 'text 1') + instr(A, 'text 2')) > 0

I'd go with the LIKE '%text1%' OR LIKE '%text2%' option... if not hope this other option helps

Accessing nested JavaScript objects and arrays by string path

using eval:

var part1name = eval("someObject.part1.name");

wrap to return undefined on error

function path(obj, path) {
    try {
        return eval("obj." + path);
    } catch(e) {
        return undefined;
    }
}

http://jsfiddle.net/shanimal/b3xTw/

Please use common sense and caution when wielding the power of eval. It's a bit like a light saber, if you turn it on there's a 90% chance you'll sever a limb. Its not for everybody.

'git status' shows changed files, but 'git diff' doesn't

I suspect there is something wrong either with your Git installation or your repository.

Try running:

GIT_TRACE=2 git <command>

See if you get anything useful. If that doesn't help, just use strace and see what's going wrong:

strace git <command>

How to iterate through a table rows and get the cell values using jQuery

You got your answer, but why iterate over the tr when you can go straight for the inputs? That way you can store them easier into an array and it reduce the number of CSS queries. Depends what you want to do of course, but for collecting data it is a more flexible approach.

http://jsfiddle.net/zqpgq/

var array = [];

$("tr.item input").each(function() {
    array.push({
        name: $(this).attr('class'),
        value: $(this).val()
    });
});

console.log(array);?

How to return dictionary keys as a list in Python?

list(newdict) works in both Python 2 and Python 3, providing a simple list of the keys in newdict. keys() isn't necessary. (:

How to completely hide the navigation bar in iPhone / HTML5

Try the following:

  1. Add this meta tag in the head of your HTML file:

    <meta name="apple-mobile-web-app-capable" content="yes" />

  2. Open your site with Safari on iPhone, and use the bookmark feature to add your site to the home screen.

  3. Go back to home screen and open the bookmarked site. The URL and status bar will be gone.

As long as you only need to work with the iPhone, you should be fine with this solution.

In addition, your sample on the warnerbros.com site uses the Sencha touch framework. You can Google it for more information or check out their demos.

What does /p mean in set /p?

The /P switch allows you to set the value of a variable to a line of input entered by the user. Displays the specified promptString before reading the line of input. The promptString can be empty.

Two ways I've used it... first:

SET /P variable=

When batch file reaches this point (when left blank) it will halt and wait for user input. Input then becomes variable.

And second:

SET /P variable=<%temp%\filename.txt

Will set variable to contents (the first line) of the txt file. This method won't work unless the /P is included. Both tested on Windows 8.1 Pro, but it's the same on 7 and 10.

C# Linq Where Date Between 2 Dates

If you have date interval filter condition and you need to select all records which falls partly into this filter range. Assumption: records has ValidFrom and ValidTo property.

DateTime intervalDateFrom = new DateTime(1990, 01, 01);
DateTime intervalDateTo = new DateTime(2000, 01, 01);

var itemsFiltered = allItems.Where(x=>
    (x.ValidFrom >= intervalDateFrom && x.ValidFrom <= intervalDateTo) ||
    (x.ValidTo >= intervalDateFrom && x.ValidTo <= intervalDateTo) ||
    (intervalDateFrom >= x.ValidFrom && intervalDateFrom <= x.ValidTo) ||
    (intervalDateTo >= x.ValidFrom && intervalDateTo <= x.ValidTo)
);

Submitting a multidimensional array via POST with php

you could submit all parameters with such naming:

params[0][topdiameter]
params[0][bottomdiameter]
params[1][topdiameter]
params[1][bottomdiameter]

then later you do something like this:

foreach ($_REQUEST['params'] as $item) {
    echo $item['topdiameter'];
    echo $item['bottomdiameter'];
}

Hibernate: flush() and commit()

One common case for explicitly flushing is when you create a new persistent entity and you want it to have an artificial primary key generated and assigned to it, so that you can use it later on in the same transaction. In that case calling flush would result in your entity being given an id.

Another case is if there are a lot of things in the 1st-level cache and you'd like to clear it out periodically (in order to reduce the amount of memory used by the cache) but you still want to commit the whole thing together. This is the case that Aleksei's answer covers.

Slack clean all messages (~8K) in a channel

As other answers allude, Slack's rate limits make this tricky - the rate limit is relatively low for their chat.delete API at ~50 requests per minute.

The best strategy that respects the rate limit is to retrieve messages from the channel you want to clear, then delete the messages in batches under 50 that run on a minutely interval.

I've built a project containing an example of this batching that you can easily fork and deploy on Autocode - it lets you clear a channel via slash command (and allows you restrict access to the command to just certain users of course!). When you run /cmd clear in a channel, it marks that channel for clearing and runs the following code every minute until it deletes all the messages in the channel:

console.log(`About to clear ${messages.length} messages from #${channel.name}...`);

let deletionResults = await async.mapLimit(messages, 2, async (message) => {
  try {
    await lib.slack.messages['@0.6.1'].destroy({
      id: clearedChannelId,
      ts: message.ts,
      as_user: true
    });
    return {
      successful: true
    };
  } catch (e) {
    return {
      successful: false,
      retryable: e.message && e.message.indexOf('ratelimited') !== -1
    };
  }
});

You can view the full code and a guide to deploying your own version here: https://autocode.com/src/jacoblee/slack-clear-messages/

To get that file use the below code.

include(Mage::getBaseDir('skin').'myfunc.php');

But it is not a correct way. To add your custom functions you can use the below file.

Kindly avoid to use the PHP function under skin dir.

How to center align the cells of a UICollectionView?

My solution for static sized collection view cells which need to have padding on left and right-

func collectionView(collectionView: UICollectionView,
layout collectionViewLayout: UICollectionViewLayout,
insetForSectionAtIndex section: Int) -> UIEdgeInsets {

    let flowLayout = (collectionViewLayout as! UICollectionViewFlowLayout)
    let cellSpacing = flowLayout.minimumInteritemSpacing
    let cellWidth = flowLayout.itemSize.width
    let cellCount = CGFloat(collectionView.numberOfItemsInSection(section))

    let collectionViewWidth = collectionView.bounds.size.width

    let totalCellWidth = cellCount * cellWidth
    let totalCellSpacing = cellSpacing * (cellCount - 1)

    let totalCellsWidth = totalCellWidth + totalCellSpacing

    let edgeInsets = (collectionViewWidth - totalCellsWidth) / 2.0

    return edgeInsets > 0 ? UIEdgeInsetsMake(0, edgeInsets, 0, edgeInsets) : UIEdgeInsetsMake(0, cellSpacing, 0, cellSpacing)
}

What is output buffering?

UPDATE 2019. If you have dedicated server and SSD or better NVM, 3.5GHZ. You shouldn't use buffering to make faster loaded website in 100ms-150ms.

Becouse network is slowly than proccesing script in the 2019 with performance servers (severs,memory,disk) and with turn on APC PHP :) To generated script sometimes need only 70ms another time is only network takes time, from 10ms up to 150ms from located user-server.

so if you want be fast 150ms, buffering make slowl, becouse need extra collection buffer data it make extra cost. 10 years ago when server make 1s script, it was usefull.

Please becareful output_buffering have limit if you would like using jpg to loading it can flush automate and crash sending.

Cheers.

You can make fast river or You can make safely tama :)

Difference between Pragma and Cache-Control headers?

There is no difference, except that Pragma is only defined as applicable to the requests by the client, whereas Cache-Control may be used by both the requests of the clients and the replies of the servers.

So, as far as standards go, they can only be compared from the perspective of the client making a requests and the server receiving a request from the client. The http://www.w3.org/Protocols/rfc2616/rfc2616-sec14.html#sec14.32 defines the scenario as follows:

HTTP/1.1 caches SHOULD treat "Pragma: no-cache" as if the client had sent "Cache-Control: no-cache". No new Pragma directives will be defined in HTTP.

  Note: because the meaning of "Pragma: no-cache as a response
  header field is not actually specified, it does not provide a
  reliable replacement for "Cache-Control: no-cache" in a response

The way I would read the above:

  • if you're writing a client and need no-cache:

    • just use Pragma: no-cache in your requests, since you may not know if Cache-Control is supported by the server;
    • but in replies, to decide on whether to cache, check for Cache-Control
  • if you're writing a server:

    • in parsing requests from the clients, check for Cache-Control; if not found, check for Pragma: no-cache, and execute the Cache-Control: no-cache logic;
    • in replies, provide Cache-Control.

Of course, reality might be different from what's written or implied in the RFC!

How to set URL query params in Vue with Vue-Router

Here is the example in docs:

// with query, resulting in /register?plan=private
router.push({ path: 'register', query: { plan: 'private' }})

Ref: https://router.vuejs.org/en/essentials/navigation.html

As mentioned in those docs, router.replace works like router.push

So, you seem to have it right in your sample code in question. But I think you may need to include either name or path parameter also, so that the router has some route to navigate to. Without a name or path, it does not look very meaningful.

This is my current understanding now:

  • query is optional for router - some additional info for the component to construct the view
  • name or path is mandatory - it decides what component to show in your <router-view>.

That might be the missing thing in your sample code.

EDIT: Additional details after comments

Have you tried using named routes in this case? You have dynamic routes, and it is easier to provide params and query separately:

routes: [
    { name: 'user-view', path: '/user/:id', component: UserView },
    // other routes
]

and then in your methods:

this.$router.replace({ name: "user-view", params: {id:"123"}, query: {q1: "q1"} })

Technically there is no difference between the above and this.$router.replace({path: "/user/123", query:{q1: "q1"}}), but it is easier to supply dynamic params on named routes than composing the route string. But in either cases, query params should be taken into account. In either case, I couldn't find anything wrong with the way query params are handled.

After you are inside the route, you can fetch your dynamic params as this.$route.params.id and your query params as this.$route.query.q1.

Listing files in a directory matching a pattern in Java

See File#listFiles(FilenameFilter).

File dir = new File(".");
File [] files = dir.listFiles(new FilenameFilter() {
    @Override
    public boolean accept(File dir, String name) {
        return name.endsWith(".xml");
    }
});

for (File xmlfile : files) {
    System.out.println(xmlfile);
}

Unsuccessful append to an empty NumPy array

numpy.append always copies the array before appending the new values. Your code is equivalent to the following:

import numpy as np
result = np.zeros((2,0))
new_result = np.append([result[0]],[1,2])
result[0] = new_result # ERROR: has shape (2,0), new_result has shape (2,)

Perhaps you mean to do this?

import numpy as np
result = np.zeros((2,0))
result = np.append([result[0]],[1,2])

Format SQL in SQL Server Management Studio

Late answer, but hopefully worthwhile: The Poor Man's T-SQL Formatter is an open-source (free) T-SQL formatter with complete T-SQL batch/script support (any DDL, any DML), SSMS Plugin, command-line bulk formatter, and other options.

It's available for immediate/online use at http://poorsql.com, and just today graduated to "version 1.0" (it was in beta version for a few months), having just acquired support for MERGE statements, OUTPUT clauses, and other finicky stuff.

The SSMS Add-in allows you to set your own hotkey (default is Ctrl-K, Ctrl-F, to match Visual Studio), and formats the entire script or just the code you have selected/highlighted, if any. Output formatting is customizable.

In SSMS 2008 it combines nicely with the built-in intelli-sense, effectively providing more-or-less the same base functionality as Red Gate's SQL Prompt (SQL Prompt does, of course, have extra stuff, like snippets, quick object scripting, etc).

Feedback/feature requests are more than welcome, please give it a whirl if you get the chance!

Disclosure: This is probably obvious already but I wrote this library/tool/site, so this answer is also shameless self-promotion :)

Multiple Java versions running concurrently under Windows

If you use Java Web Start (you can start applications from any URL, even the local file system) it will take care of finding the right version for your application.

How to attach a process in gdb

With a running instance of myExecutableName having a PID 15073:

hitting Tab twice after $ gdb myExecu in the command line, will automagically autocompletes to:

$ gdb myExecutableName 15073

and will attach gdb to this process. That's nice!

Get IFrame's document, from JavaScript in main document

You should be able to access the document in the IFRAME using the following code:

document.getElementById('myframe').contentWindow.document

However, you will not be able to do this if the page in the frame is loaded from a different domain (such as google.com). THis is because of the browser's Same Origin Policy.

In Oracle SQL: How do you insert the current date + time into a table?

It only seems to because that is what it is printing out. But actually, you shouldn't write the logic this way. This is equivalent:

insert into errortable (dateupdated, table1id)
    values (sysdate, 1083);

It seems silly to convert the system date to a string just to convert it back to a date.

If you want to see the full date, then you can do:

select TO_CHAR(dateupdated, 'YYYY-MM-DD HH24:MI:SS'), table1id
from errortable;

Where is the visual studio HTML Designer?

Another way of setting the default to the HTML web forms editor is:

  1. At the top menu in Visual Studio go to File > New > File
  2. Select HTML Page
  3. In the lower right corner of the New File dialog on the Open button there is a down arrow
  4. Click it and you should see an option Open With
  5. Select HTML (Web Forms) Editor
  6. Click Set as Default
  7. Press OK

Wait for all promises to resolve

You can use "await" in an "async function".

app.controller('MainCtrl', async function($scope, $q, $timeout) {
  ...
  var all = await $q.all([one.promise, two.promise, three.promise]);
  ...
}

NOTE: I'm not 100% sure you can call an async function from a non-async function and have the right results.

That said this wouldn't ever be used on a website. But for load-testing/integration test...maybe.

Example code:

_x000D_
_x000D_
async function waitForIt(printMe) {_x000D_
  console.log(printMe);_x000D_
  console.log("..."+await req());_x000D_

}_x000D_

  var promise = new Promise(resolve => {_x000D_
    setTimeout(() => {_x000D_

    }, 2000);_x000D_
    _x000D_
  });_x000D_

C# Checking if button was clicked

Click is an event that fires immediately after you release the mouse button. So if you want to check in the handler for button2.Click if button1 was clicked before, all you could do is have a handler for button1.Click which sets a bool flag of your own making to true.

private bool button1WasClicked = false;

private void button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
    button1WasClicked = true;
}

private void button2_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
    if (textBox2.Text == textBox3.Text && button1WasClicked)
    {
        StreamWriter myWriter = File.CreateText(@"c:\Program Files\text.txt");
        myWriter.WriteLine(textBox1.Text);
        myWriter.WriteLine(textBox2.Text);
        button1WasClicked = false;
    }
}

What is the difference between gravity and layout_gravity in Android?

The basic difference between the two is that-

android:gravity is used for child elements of the view.

android:layout_gravity is used for this element with respect to parent view.

How do I authenticate a WebClient request?

What kind of authentication are you using? If it's Forms authentication, then at best, you'll have to find the .ASPXAUTH cookie and pass it in the WebClient request.

At worst, it won't work.

Pass mouse events through absolutely-positioned element

Also nice to know...
Pointer-events can be disabled for a parent element (probably transparent div) and yet be enabled for child elements. This is helpful if you work with multiple overlapping div layers, where you want to be able click the child elements of any layer. For this all parenting divs get pointer-events: none and click-children get pointer-events reenabled by pointer-events: all

.parent {
    pointer-events:none;
}
.child {
    pointer-events:all;
}

<div class="some-container">
   <ul class="layer-0 parent">
     <li class="click-me child"></li>
     <li class="click-me child"></li>
   </ul>

   <ul class="layer-1 parent">
     <li class="click-me-also child"></li>
     <li class="click-me-also child"></li>
   </ul>
</div>

Setting network adapter metric priority in Windows 7

I had the same problem on Windows 7 64-bit Pro. I adjusted network adapters binding using Control panel but nothing changed. Also metrics where showing that Win should use Ethernet adapter as primary, but it didn't.

Then a tried to uninstall Ethernet adapter driver and then install it again (without restart) and then I checked metrics for sure.

After this, Windows started prioritize Ethernet adapter.

How can I use optional parameters in a T-SQL stored procedure?

The answer from @KM is good as far as it goes but fails to fully follow up on one of his early bits of advice;

..., ignore compact code, ignore worrying about repeating code, ...

If you are looking to achieve the best performance then you should write a bespoke query for each possible combination of optional criteria. This might sound extreme, and if you have a lot of optional criteria then it might be, but performance is often a trade-off between effort and results. In practice, there might be a common set of parameter combinations that can be targeted with bespoke queries, then a generic query (as per the other answers) for all other combinations.

CREATE PROCEDURE spDoSearch
    @FirstName varchar(25) = null,
    @LastName varchar(25) = null,
    @Title varchar(25) = null
AS
BEGIN

    IF (@FirstName IS NOT NULL AND @LastName IS NULL AND @Title IS NULL)
        -- Search by first name only
        SELECT ID, FirstName, LastName, Title
        FROM tblUsers
        WHERE
            FirstName = @FirstName

    ELSE IF (@FirstName IS NULL AND @LastName IS NOT NULL AND @Title IS NULL)
        -- Search by last name only
        SELECT ID, FirstName, LastName, Title
        FROM tblUsers
        WHERE
            LastName = @LastName

    ELSE IF (@FirstName IS NULL AND @LastName IS NULL AND @Title IS NOT NULL)
        -- Search by title only
        SELECT ID, FirstName, LastName, Title
        FROM tblUsers
        WHERE
            Title = @Title

    ELSE IF (@FirstName IS NOT NULL AND @LastName IS NOT NULL AND @Title IS NULL)
        -- Search by first and last name
        SELECT ID, FirstName, LastName, Title
        FROM tblUsers
        WHERE
            FirstName = @FirstName
            AND LastName = @LastName

    ELSE
        -- Search by any other combination
        SELECT ID, FirstName, LastName, Title
        FROM tblUsers
        WHERE
                (@FirstName IS NULL OR (FirstName = @FirstName))
            AND (@LastName  IS NULL OR (LastName  = @LastName ))
            AND (@Title     IS NULL OR (Title     = @Title    ))

END

The advantage of this approach is that in the common cases handled by bespoke queries the query is as efficient as it can be - there's no impact by the unsupplied criteria. Also, indexes and other performance enhancements can be targeted at specific bespoke queries rather than trying to satisfy all possible situations.

How to define Typescript Map of key value pair. where key is a number and value is an array of objects

you can also skip creating dictionary altogether. i used below approach to same problem .

 mappedItems: {};
 items.forEach(item => {
        if (mappedItems[item.key]) {
           mappedItems[item.key].push({productId : item.productId , price : item.price , discount : item.discount});
        } else {
          mappedItems[item.key] = [];
          mappedItems[item.key].push({productId : item.productId , price : item.price , discount : item.discount}));
        }
    });

Including non-Python files with setup.py

To accomplish what you're describing will take two steps...

  • The file needs to be added to the source tarball
  • setup.py needs to be modified to install the data file to the source path

Step 1: To add the file to the source tarball, include it in the MANIFEST

Create a MANIFEST template in the folder that contains setup.py

The MANIFEST is basically a text file with a list of all the files that will be included in the source tarball.

Here's what the MANIFEST for my project look like:

  • CHANGELOG.txt
  • INSTALL.txt
  • LICENSE.txt
  • pypreprocessor.py
  • README.txt
  • setup.py
  • test.py
  • TODO.txt

Note: While sdist does add some files automatically, I prefer to explicitly specify them to be sure instead of predicting what it does and doesn't.

Step 2: To install the data file to the source folder, modify setup.py

Since you're looking to add a data file (LICENSE.txt) to the source install folder you need to modify the data install path to match the source install path. This is necessary because, by default, data files are installed to a different location than source files.

To modify the data install dir to match the source install dir...

Pull the install dir info from distutils with:

from distutils.command.install import INSTALL_SCHEMES

Modify the data install dir to match the source install dir:

for scheme in INSTALL_SCHEMES.values():
    scheme['data'] = scheme['purelib']

And, add the data file and location to setup():

data_files=[('', ['LICENSE.txt'])]

Note: The steps above should accomplish exactly what you described in a standard manner without requiring any extension libraries.

Can VS Code run on Android?

I don't agree with the accepted answer that the lack of electron prevents VSC on Android.

Electron is really the desktop equivelent of projects like Apache Cordova or Adobe PhoneGap (but Electron is much less efficient and will presumably give way to solutions much closer to Cordova/PhoneGap when possible - it is already being worked on eg. here.)

API's would need to be mapped from their electron equivelents, and many of the plug-ins will have their own issues (but Android is reasonably flexible about allowing stuff like Python compared to iOS) so it is doable.

On the other hand, the demand for an Android version of VSC probably comes from people using the new Chromebooks that support Android, and there is already a solution for ChromeOS using crouton, available here.

Java LinkedHashMap get first or last entry

The semantics of LinkedHashMap are still those of a Map, rather than that of a LinkedList. It retains insertion order, yes, but that's an implementation detail, rather than an aspect of its interface.

The quickest way to get the "first" entry is still entrySet().iterator().next(). Getting the "last" entry is possible, but will entail iterating over the whole entry set by calling .next() until you reach the last. while (iterator.hasNext()) { lastElement = iterator.next() }

edit: However, if you're willing to go beyond the JavaSE API, Apache Commons Collections has its own LinkedMap implementation, which has methods like firstKey and lastKey, which do what you're looking for. The interface is considerably richer.

CS0234: Mvc does not exist in the System.Web namespace

I had the same problem and I had solved it with:

1.Right click to solution and click 'Clean Solution'

2.Click 'References' folder in solution explorer and select the problem reference (in your case it seems System.Web.Mvc) and then right click and click 'Properties'.

3.In the properties window, make sure that the 'Copy Local' property is set to 'True'

This worked for me. Hope it works for someone else

Helpful Note: As it has mentioned in comments by @Vlad:

If it is already set to True:

  1. Set it False
  2. Set it True again
  3. Rebuild

C# Numeric Only TextBox Control

use this code:

private void textBox1_KeyPress(object sender, KeyPressEventArgs e)
        {
            const char Delete = (char)8;
            e.Handled = !Char.IsDigit(e.KeyChar) && e.KeyChar != Delete;
        }

Why does the html input with type "number" allow the letter 'e' to be entered in the field?

Because that's exactly how the spec says it should work. The number input can accept floating-point numbers, including negative symbols and the e or E character (where the exponent is the number after the e or E):

A floating-point number consists of the following parts, in exactly the following order:

  1. Optionally, the first character may be a "-" character.
  2. One or more characters in the range "0—9".
  3. Optionally, the following parts, in exactly the following order:
    1. a "." character
    2. one or more characters in the range "0—9"
  4. Optionally, the following parts, in exactly the following order:
    1. a "e" character or "E" character
    2. optionally, a "-" character or "+" character
    3. One or more characters in the range "0—9".

How to generate unique ID with node.js

If some one needs cryptographic-strong UUID, there is solution for that as well.

https://www.npmjs.com/package/generate-safe-id

npm install generate-safe-id

Why not UUIDs?

Random UUIDs (UUIDv4) do not have enough entropy to be universally unique (ironic, eh?). Random UUIDs have only 122 bits of entropy, which suggests that a duplicate will occur after only 2^61 IDs. Additionally, some UUIDv4 implementations do not use a cryptographically strong random number generator.

This library generates 240-bit IDs using the Node.js crypto RNG, suggesting the first duplicate will occur after generating 2^120 IDs. Based on the current energy production of the human race, this threshold will be impossible to cross for the foreseeable future.

var generateSafeId = require('generate-safe-id');

var id = generateSafeId();
// id == "zVPkWyvgRW-7pSk0iRzEhdnPcnWfMRi-ZcaPxrHA"

Redirect from asp.net web api post action

Here is another way you can get to the root of your website without hard coding the url:

var response = Request.CreateResponse(HttpStatusCode.Moved);
string fullyQualifiedUrl = Request.RequestUri.GetLeftPart(UriPartial.Authority);
response.Headers.Location = new Uri(fullyQualifiedUrl);

Note: Will only work if both your MVC website and WebApi are on the same URL

Using lambda expressions for event handlers

Performance-wise it's the same as a named method. The big problem is when you do the following:

MyButton.Click -= (o, i) =>
{
    //snip
}

It will probably try to remove a different lambda, leaving the original one there. So the lesson is that it's fine unless you also want to be able to remove the handler.

Windows command to convert Unix line endings?

This can actually be done very easily using the more command which is included in Windows NT and later. To convert input_filename which contains UNIX EOL (End Of Line) \n to output_filename which contains Windows EOL \r\n, just do this:

TYPE input_filename | MORE /P > output_filename

The more command has additional formatting options that you may not be aware of. Run more/? to learn what else more can do.

Replace deprecated preg_replace /e with preg_replace_callback

You can use an anonymous function to pass the matches to your function:

$result = preg_replace_callback(
    "/\{([<>])([a-zA-Z0-9_]*)(\?{0,1})([a-zA-Z0-9_]*)\}(.*)\{\\1\/\\2\}/isU",
    function($m) { return CallFunction($m[1], $m[2], $m[3], $m[4], $m[5]); },
    $result
);

Apart from being faster, this will also properly handle double quotes in your string. Your current code using /e would convert a double quote " into \".

How can I find all *.js file in directory recursively in Linux?

How to unstash only certain files?

First list all the stashes

git stash list

?

stash@{2}: WIP on master: 7e450c81 Merge branch 'Offlineseite'

Then show which files are in the stash (lets pick stash 1):

git stash show 1 --name-only

//Hint: you can also write
//git stash show stash@{1} --name-only

?

 ajax/product.php
 ajax/productPrice.php
 errors/Company/js/offlineMain.phtml
 errors/Company/mage.php
 errors/Company/page.phtml
 js/konfigurator/konfigurator.js

Then apply the file you like to:

git checkout stash@{1} -- <filename>

or whole folder:

git checkout stash@{1} /errors

It also works without -- but it is recommended to use them. See this post.

It is also conventional to recognize a double hyphen as a signal to stop option interpretation and treat all following arguments literally.

Can someone provide an example of a $destroy event for scopes in AngularJS?

$destroy can refer to 2 things: method and event

1. method - $scope.$destroy

.directive("colorTag", function(){
  return {
    restrict: "A",
    scope: {
      value: "=colorTag"
    },
    link: function (scope, element, attrs) {
      var colors = new App.Colors();
      element.css("background-color", stringToColor(scope.value));
      element.css("color", contrastColor(scope.value));

      // Destroy scope, because it's no longer needed.
      scope.$destroy();
    }
  };
})

2. event - $scope.$on("$destroy")

How to put a new line into a wpf TextBlock control?

Even though this is an old question, I've just come across the problem and solved it differently from the given answers. Maybe it could be helpful to others.

I noticed that even though my XML files looked like:

<tag>
 <subTag>content with newline.\r\nto display</subTag>
</tag>

When it was read into my C# code the string had double backslashes.

\\r\\n

To fix this I wrote a ValueConverter to strip the extra backslash.

public class XmlStringConverter : IValueConverter
{
    public object Convert(
        object value,
        Type targetType,
        object parameter,
        CultureInfo culture)
    {
        string valueAsString = value as string;
        if (string.IsNullOrEmpty(valueAsString))
        {
            return value;
        }

        valueAsString = valueAsString.Replace("\\r\\n", "\r\n");
        return valueAsString;
    }

    public object ConvertBack(
        object value,
        Type targetType,
        object parameter,
        CultureInfo culture)
    {
        throw new NotImplementedException();
    }
}

SaveFileDialog setting default path and file type?

Here's an example that actually filters for BIN files. Also Windows now want you to save files to user locations, not system locations, so here's an example (you can use intellisense to browse the other options):

            var saveFileDialog = new Microsoft.Win32.SaveFileDialog()
            {
                DefaultExt = "*.xml",
                Filter = "BIN Files (*.bin)|*.bin",
                InitialDirectory = Environment.GetFolderPath(Environment.SpecialFolder.MyDocuments),
            };

            var result = saveFileDialog.ShowDialog();
            if (result != null && result == true)
            {
                // Save the file here
            }

Clearing state es6 React

Problem

The accepted answer:

const initialState = {
    /* etc */
};

class MyComponent extends Component {
    constructor(props) {
        super(props)
        this.state = initialState;
    }
    reset() {
        this.setState(initialState);
    }
    /* etc */
}

unfortunately is not correct.

initialState is passed as a reference to this.state, so whenever you change state you also change initialState (const doesn't really matter here). The result is that you can never go back to initialState.

Solution

You have to deep copy initialState to state, then it will work. Either write a deep copy function yourself or use some existing module like this.

How to use filesaver.js

Just as example from github, it works. https://github.com/eligrey/FileSaver.js

<script src="FileSaver.js"></script>

    var blob = new Blob(["Hello, world!"], {type: "text/plain;charset=utf-8"});
    saveAs(blob, "hello world.txt");

Qt c++ aggregate 'std::stringstream ss' has incomplete type and cannot be defined

Like it's written up there, you forget to type #include <sstream>

#include <sstream>
using namespace std;

QString Stats_Manager::convertInt(int num)
{
   stringstream ss;
   ss << num;
   return ss.str();
}

You can also use some other ways to convert int to string, like

char numstr[21]; // enough to hold all numbers up to 64-bits
sprintf(numstr, "%d", age);
result = name + numstr;

check this!

Where do I put a single filter that filters methods in two controllers in Rails

Two ways.

i. You can put it in ApplicationController and add the filters in the controller

    class ApplicationController < ActionController::Base       def filter_method       end     end      class FirstController < ApplicationController       before_filter :filter_method     end      class SecondController < ApplicationController       before_filter :filter_method     end

But the problem here is that this method will be added to all the controllers since all of them extend from application controller

ii. Create a parent controller and define it there

 class ParentController < ApplicationController def filter_method end end class FirstController < ParentController before_filter :filter_method end class SecondController < ParentController before_filter :filter_method end

I have named it as parent controller but you can come up with a name that fits your situation properly.

You can also define the filter method in a module and include it in the controllers where you need the filter

Parallel foreach with asynchronous lambda

My lightweight implementation of ParallelForEach async.

Features:

  1. Throttling (max degree of parallelism).
  2. Exception handling (aggregation exception will be thrown at completion).
  3. Memory efficient (no need to store the list of tasks).

public static class AsyncEx
{
    public static async Task ParallelForEachAsync<T>(this IEnumerable<T> source, Func<T, Task> asyncAction, int maxDegreeOfParallelism = 10)
    {
        var semaphoreSlim = new SemaphoreSlim(maxDegreeOfParallelism);
        var tcs = new TaskCompletionSource<object>();
        var exceptions = new ConcurrentBag<Exception>();
        bool addingCompleted = false;

        foreach (T item in source)
        {
            await semaphoreSlim.WaitAsync();
            asyncAction(item).ContinueWith(t =>
            {
                semaphoreSlim.Release();

                if (t.Exception != null)
                {
                    exceptions.Add(t.Exception);
                }

                if (Volatile.Read(ref addingCompleted) && semaphoreSlim.CurrentCount == maxDegreeOfParallelism)
                {
                    tcs.TrySetResult(null);
                }
            });
        }

        Volatile.Write(ref addingCompleted, true);
        await tcs.Task;
        if (exceptions.Count > 0)
        {
            throw new AggregateException(exceptions);
        }
    }
}

Usage example:

await Enumerable.Range(1, 10000).ParallelForEachAsync(async (i) =>
{
    var data = await GetData(i);
}, maxDegreeOfParallelism: 100);

How to force a view refresh without having it trigger automatically from an observable?

You can't call something on the entire viewModel, but on an individual observable you can call myObservable.valueHasMutated() to notify subscribers that they should re-evaluate. This is generally not necessary in KO, as you mentioned.

How to upgrade R in ubuntu?

Since R is already installed, you should be able to upgrade it with this method. First of all, you may want to have the packages you installed in the previous version in the new one,so it is convenient to check this post. Then, follow the instructions from here

  1. Open the sources.list file:

     sudo nano /etc/apt/sources.list

  2. Add a line with the source from where the packages will be retrieved. For example:

     deb https://cloud.r-project.org/bin/linux/ubuntu/ version/

    Replace https://cloud.r-project.org with whatever mirror you would like to use, and replace version/ with whatever version of Ubuntu you are using (eg, trusty/, xenial/, and so on). If you're getting a "Malformed line error", check to see if you have a space between /ubuntu/ and version/.

  3. Fetch the secure APT key:

     gpg --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv-key E298A3A825C0D65DFD57CBB651716619E084DAB9

or

    gpg --hkp://keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com:80 --recv-key E298A3A825C0D65DFD57CBB651716619E084DAB9
  1. Add it to keyring:

     gpg -a --export E084DAB9 | sudo apt-key add -

  2. Update your sources and upgrade your installation:

     sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade

  3. Install the new version

     sudo apt-get install r-base-dev

  4. Recover your old packages following the solution that best suits to you (see this). For instance, to recover all the packages (not only those from CRAN) the idea is:

-- copy the packages from R-oldversion/library to R-newversion/library, (do not overwrite a package if it already exists in the new version!).

-- Run the R command update.packages(checkBuilt=TRUE, ask=FALSE).

Get HTML source of WebElement in Selenium WebDriver using Python

I hope this could help: http://selenium.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/docs/api/java/org/openqa/selenium/WebElement.html

Here is described Java method:

java.lang.String    getText()

But unfortunately it's not available in Python. So you can translate the method names to Python from Java and try another logic using present methods without getting the whole page source...

E.g.

 my_id = elem[0].get_attribute('my-id')

Convert object to JSON in Android

download the library Gradle:

To use the library in a method.

Gson gson = new Gson();

//transform a java object to json
System.out.println("json =" + gson.toJson(Object.class).toString());

//Transform a json to java object
String json = string_json;
List<Object> lstObject = gson.fromJson(json_ string, Object.class);

Use :hover to modify the css of another class?

There are two approaches you can take, to have a hovered element affect (E) another element (F):

  1. F is a child-element of E, or
  2. F is a later-sibling (or sibling's descendant) element of E (in that E appears in the mark-up/DOM before F):

To illustrate the first of these options (F as a descendant/child of E):

.item:hover .wrapper {
    color: #fff;
    background-color: #000;
}?

To demonstrate the second option, F being a sibling element of E:

.item:hover ~ .wrapper {
    color: #fff;
    background-color: #000;
}?

In this example, if .wrapper was an immediate sibling of .item (with no other elements between the two) you could also use .item:hover + .wrapper.

JS Fiddle demonstration.

How to calculate DATE Difference in PostgreSQL?

Your calculation is correct for DATE types, but if your values are timestamps, you should probably use EXTRACT (or DATE_PART) to be sure to get only the difference in full days;

EXTRACT(DAY FROM MAX(joindate)-MIN(joindate)) AS DateDifference

An SQLfiddle to test with. Note the timestamp difference being 1 second less than 2 full days.

How to set Spinner default value to null?

This is a complete implementation of Paul Bourdeaux's idea, namely returning a special initial view (or an empty view) in getView() for position 0.

It works for me and is relatively straightforward. You might consider this approach especially if you already have a custom adapter for your Spinner. (In my case, I was using custom adapter in order to easily customise the layout of the items, each item having a couple of TextViews.)

The adapter would be something along these lines:

public class MySpinnerAdapter extends ArrayAdapter<MyModel> {

    public MySpinnerAdapter(Context context, List<MyModel> items) {
        super(context, R.layout.my_spinner_row, items);
    }

    @Override
    public View getDropDownView(int position, View convertView, @NonNull ViewGroup parent) {
        if (position == 0) {
            return initialSelection(true);
        }
        return getCustomView(position, convertView, parent);
    }

    @NonNull
    @Override
    public View getView(int position, View convertView, @NonNull ViewGroup parent) {
        if (position == 0) {
            return initialSelection(false);
        }
        return getCustomView(position, convertView, parent);
    }

    @Override
    public int getCount() {
        return super.getCount() + 1; // Adjust for initial selection item
    }

    private View initialSelection(boolean dropdown) {
        // Just an example using a simple TextView. Create whatever default view
        // to suit your needs, inflating a separate layout if it's cleaner.
        TextView view = new TextView(getContext());
        view.setText(R.string.select_one);
        int spacing = getContext().getResources().getDimensionPixelSize(R.dimen.spacing_smaller);
        view.setPadding(0, spacing, 0, spacing);

        if (dropdown) { // Hidden when the dropdown is opened
            view.setHeight(0);
        }

        return view;
    }

    private View getCustomView(int position, View convertView, ViewGroup parent) {
        // Distinguish "real" spinner items (that can be reused) from initial selection item
        View row = convertView != null && !(convertView instanceof TextView)
        ? convertView :
        LayoutInflater.from(getContext()).inflate(R.layout.my_spinner_row, parent, false);

        position = position - 1; // Adjust for initial selection item
        MyModel item = getItem(position);

        // ... Resolve views & populate with data ...

        return row;
    }

}

That's it. Note that if you use a OnItemSelectedListener with your Spinner, in onItemSelected() you'd also have to adjust position to take the default item into account, for example:

if (position == 0) {
    return;
} else {
    position = position - 1;
}
MyModel selected = items.get(position);

The most efficient way to implement an integer based power function pow(int, int)

Late to the party:

Below is a solution that also deals with y < 0 as best as it can.

  1. It uses a result of intmax_t for maximum range. There is no provision for answers that do not fit in intmax_t.
  2. powjii(0, 0) --> 1 which is a common result for this case.
  3. pow(0,negative), another undefined result, returns INTMAX_MAX

    intmax_t powjii(int x, int y) {
      if (y < 0) {
        switch (x) {
          case 0:
            return INTMAX_MAX;
          case 1:
            return 1;
          case -1:
            return y % 2 ? -1 : 1;
        }
        return 0;
      }
      intmax_t z = 1;
      intmax_t base = x;
      for (;;) {
        if (y % 2) {
          z *= base;
        }
        y /= 2;
        if (y == 0) {
          break;
        }
        base *= base;
      }
      return z;
    }

This code uses a forever loop for(;;) to avoid the final base *= base common in other looped solutions. That multiplication is 1) not needed and 2) could be int*int overflow which is UB.

What's the correct way to convert bytes to a hex string in Python 3?

OK, the following answer is slightly beyond-scope if you only care about Python 3, but this question is the first Google hit even if you don't specify the Python version, so here's a way that works on both Python 2 and Python 3.

I'm also interpreting the question to be about converting bytes to the str type: that is, bytes-y on Python 2, and Unicode-y on Python 3.

Given that, the best approach I know is:

import six

bytes_to_hex_str = lambda b: ' '.join('%02x' % i for i in six.iterbytes(b))

The following assertion will be true for either Python 2 or Python 3, assuming you haven't activated the unicode_literals future in Python 2:

assert bytes_to_hex_str(b'jkl') == '6a 6b 6c'

(Or you can use ''.join() to omit the space between the bytes, etc.)

How to add column if not exists on PostgreSQL?

Here's a short-and-sweet version using the "DO" statement:

DO $$
    BEGIN
        BEGIN
            ALTER TABLE <table_name> ADD COLUMN <column_name> <column_type>;
        EXCEPTION
            WHEN duplicate_column THEN RAISE NOTICE 'column <column_name> already exists in <table_name>.';
        END;
    END;
$$

You can't pass these as parameters, you'll need to do variable substitution in the string on the client side, but this is a self contained query that only emits a message if the column already exists, adds if it doesn't and will continue to fail on other errors (like an invalid data type).

I don't recommend doing ANY of these methods if these are random strings coming from external sources. No matter what method you use (client-side or server-side dynamic strings executed as queries), it would be a recipe for disaster as it opens you to SQL injection attacks.

Why are you not able to declare a class as static in Java?

You can create a utility class (which cannot have instances created) by declaring an enum type with no instances. i.e. you are specificly declaring that there are no instances.

public enum MyUtilities {;
   public static void myMethod();
}

Replacing a fragment with another fragment inside activity group

Use ViewPager. It's work for me.

final ViewPager viewPager = (ViewPager) getActivity().findViewById(R.id.vp_pager);
button = (Button)result.findViewById(R.id.button);

    @Override
    public void onClick(View v) {
        viewPager.setCurrentItem(1);
    }
});

Line break in HTML with '\n'

You should consider replacing your line breaks with <br/>. In HTML a line break will only stand for new line in your code.

Alternatively you can use some other HTML markups like placing your lines in paragraphs:

<p>Sample line</p>
<p>Another line</p>

or other wrappers like for instance <div>sample</div> with CSS attribute: display: block.

You can also use <pre>. The content of pre will have its HTML styling ignored. In other words it will display pure HTML with normal \n line breaks.

How do you post to the wall on a facebook page (not profile)

            'link' => 'http://www.google.com'
        )
    )

Why does ++[[]][+[]]+[+[]] return the string "10"?

This one evaluates to the same but a bit smaller

+!![]+''+(+[])
  • [] - is an array is converted that is converted to 0 when you add or subtract from it, so hence +[] = 0
  • ![] - evaluates to false, so hence !![] evaluates to true
  • +!![] - converts the true to a numeric value that evaluates to true, so in this case 1
  • +'' - appends an empty string to the expression causing the number to be converted to string
  • +[] - evaluates to 0

so is evaluates to

+(true) + '' + (0)
1 + '' + 0
"10"

So now you got that, try this one:

_=$=+[],++_+''+$
