How to verify if $_GET exists?

Normally it is quite good to do:

echo isset($_GET['id']) ? $_GET['id'] : 'wtf';

This is so when assigning the var to other variables you can do defaults all in one breath instead of constantly using if statements to just give them a default value if they are not set.

SELECT * WHERE NOT EXISTS

SELECT * from employees
WHERE NOT EXISTS (SELECT name FROM eotm_dyn)

Never returns any records unless eotm_dyn is empty. You need to some kind of criteria on SELECT name FROM eotm_dyn like

SELECT * from employees
WHERE NOT EXISTS (
    SELECT name FROM eotm_dyn WHERE eotm_dyn.employeeid = employees.employeeid
)

assuming that the two tables are linked by a foreign key relationship. At this point you could use a variety of other options including a LEFT JOIN. The optimizer will typically handle them the same in most cases, however.

How do you convert Html to plain text?

If you have data that has HTML tags and you want to display it so that a person can SEE the tags, use HttpServerUtility::HtmlEncode.

If you have data that has HTML tags in it and you want the user to see the tags rendered, then display the text as is. If the text represents an entire web page, use an IFRAME for it.

If you have data that has HTML tags and you want to strip out the tags and just display the unformatted text, use a regular expression.

How to extract epoch from LocalDate and LocalDateTime?

Convert from human readable date to epoch:

long epoch = new java.text.SimpleDateFormat("MM/dd/yyyyHH:mm:ss").parse("01/01/1970 01:00:00").getTime() / 1000;

Convert from epoch to human readable date:

String date = new java.text.SimpleDateFormat("MM/dd/yyyyHH:mm:ss").format(new java.util.Date (epoch*1000));

Annotation @Transactional. How to rollback?

Just throw any RuntimeException from a method marked as @Transactional.

By default all RuntimeExceptions rollback transaction whereas checked exceptions don't. This is an EJB legacy. You can configure this by using rollbackFor() and noRollbackFor() annotation parameters:

@Transactional(rollbackFor=Exception.class)

This will rollback transaction after throwing any exception.

HTTP get with headers using RestTemplate

The RestTemplate getForObject() method does not support setting headers. The solution is to use the exchange() method.

So instead of restTemplate.getForObject(url, String.class, param) (which has no headers), use

HttpHeaders headers = new HttpHeaders();
headers.set("Header", "value");
headers.set("Other-Header", "othervalue");
...

HttpEntity entity = new HttpEntity(headers);

ResponseEntity<String> response = restTemplate.exchange(
    url, HttpMethod.GET, entity, String.class, param);

Finally, use response.getBody() to get your result.

This question is similar to this question.

How is a CRC32 checksum calculated?

In order to reduce crc32 to taking the reminder you need to:

  1. Invert bits on each byte
  2. xor first four bytes with 0xFF (this is to avoid errors on the leading 0s)
  3. Add padding at the end (this is to make the last 4 bytes take part in the hash)
  4. Compute the reminder
  5. Reverse the bits again
  6. xor the result again.

In code this is:

func CRC32 (file []byte) uint32 {
    for i , v := range(file) {
        file[i] = bits.Reverse8(v)
    }
    for i := 0; i < 4; i++ {
        file[i] ^= 0xFF
    }

    // Add padding
    file = append(file, []byte{0, 0, 0, 0}...)
    newReminder := bits.Reverse32(reminderIEEE(file))

    return newReminder ^ 0xFFFFFFFF
}

where reminderIEEE is the pure reminder on GF(2)[x]

What's the best/easiest GUI Library for Ruby?

wxWidgets is worth checking out. It is well supported on Ruby via wxRuby. For an example app, have a look at wxRIDE. See it compared to other toolkits. You might also want to check out Anvil, which is a sort of Rails-ish framework for working with wx. It looks moribund now, though.

Remote debugging a Java application

This is how you should setup Eclipse Debugger for remote debugging:

Eclipse Settings:

1.Click the Run Button
2.Select the Debug Configurations
3.Select the “Remote Java Application”
4.New Configuration

  • Name : GatewayPortalProject
  • Project : GatewayPortal-portlet
  • Connection Type: Socket Attach
  • Connection Properties: i) localhost ii) 8787

For JBoss:

1.Change the /path/toJboss/jboss-eap-6.1/bin/standalone.conf in your vm as follows: Uncomment the following line by removing the #:

JAVA_OPTS="$JAVA_OPTS -agentlib:jdwp=transport=dt_socket,address=8787,server=y,suspend=n"

For Tomcat :

In catalina.bat file :

Step 1:

CATALINA_OPTS="-Xdebug -Xrunjdwp:transport=dt_socket,address=8000,server=y,suspend=n"

Step 2:

JPDA_OPTS="-agentlib:jdwp=transport=dt_socket,address=8000,server=y,suspend=n"

Step 3: Run Tomcat from command prompt like below:

catalina.sh jpda start

Then you need to set breakpoints in the Java classes you desire to debug.

SQLAlchemy: how to filter date field?

if you want to get the whole period:

    from sqlalchemy import and_, func

    query = DBSession.query(User).filter(and_(func.date(User.birthday) >= '1985-01-17'),\
                                              func.date(User.birthday) <= '1988-01-17'))

That means range: 1985-01-17 00:00 - 1988-01-17 23:59

How can I create a dynamic button click event on a dynamic button?

Let's say you have 25 objects and want one process to handle any one objects click event. You could write 25 delegates or use a loop to handle the click event.

public form1()
{
    foreach (Panel pl  in Container.Components)
    {
        pl.Click += Panel_Click;
    }
}

private void Panel_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
    // Process the panel clicks here
    int index = Panels.FindIndex(a => a == sender);
    ...
}

How do I find an element that contains specific text in Selenium WebDriver (Python)?

Try this. It's very easy:

driver.getPageSource().contains("text to search");

This really worked for me in Selenium WebDriver.

How to open adb and use it to send commands

The adb tool can be found in sdk/platform-tools/

If you don't see this directory in your SDK, launch the SDK Manager and install "Android SDK Platform-tools"

Also update your PATH environment variable to include the platform-tools/ directory, so you can execute adb from any location.

expected constructor, destructor, or type conversion before ‘(’ token

You are missing the std namespace reference in the cc file. You should also call nom.c_str() because there is no implicit conversion from std::string to const char * expected by ifstream's constructor.

    std::ifstream fichier (nom.c_str(), std::ifstream::in);
    // ...
}

mailto link with HTML body

Whilst it is NOT possible to use HTML to format your email body you can add line breaks as has been previously suggested.

If you are able to use javascript then "encodeURIComponent()" might be of use like below...

var formattedBody = "FirstLine \n Second Line \n Third Line";
var mailToLink = "mailto:[email protected]?body=" + encodeURIComponent(formattedBody);
window.location.href = mailToLink;

react router v^4.0.0 Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read property 'location' of undefined

I've tried everything suggested here but didn't work for me. So in case I can help anyone with a similar issue, every single tutorial I've checked is not updated to work with version 4.

Here is what I've done to make it work

import React from 'react';
import App from './App';

import ReactDOM from 'react-dom';
import {
    HashRouter,
    Route
} from 'react-router-dom';

 ReactDOM.render((
        <HashRouter>
            <div>
                <Route path="/" render={()=><App items={temasArray}/>}/>
            </div>
        </HashRouter >
    ), document.getElementById('root'));

That's the only way I have managed to make it work without any errors or warnings.

In case you want to pass props to your component for me the easiest way is this one:

 <Route path="/" render={()=><App items={temasArray}/>}/>

Retrieving Dictionary Value Best Practices

I imagine that trygetvalue is doing something more like:

if(myDict.ReallyOptimisedVersionofContains(someKey))
{
  someVal = myDict[someKey];
  return true;
}
return false;

So hopefully no try/catch anywhere.

I think it is just a method of convenience really. I generally use it as it saves a line of code or two.

How do I clear the dropdownlist values on button click event using jQuery?

If you want to reset the selected options

$('select option:selected').removeAttr('selected');

If you actually want to remove the options (although I don't think you mean this).

$('select').empty();

Substitute select for the most appropriate selector in your case (this may be by id or by CSS class). Using as is will reset all <select> elements on the page

How do I invoke a Java method when given the method name as a string?

Here are the READY TO USE METHODS:

To invoke a method, without Arguments:

public static void callMethodByName(Object object, String methodName) throws IllegalAccessException, InvocationTargetException, NoSuchMethodException {
    object.getClass().getDeclaredMethod(methodName).invoke(object);
}

To invoke a method, with Arguments:

    public static void callMethodByName(Object object, String methodName, int i, String s) throws IllegalAccessException, InvocationTargetException, NoSuchMethodException {
        object.getClass().getDeclaredMethod(methodName, int.class, String.class).invoke(object, i, s);
    }

Use the above methods as below:

package practice;

import java.io.IOException;
import java.lang.reflect.InvocationTargetException;

public class MethodInvoke {

    public static void main(String[] args) throws ClassNotFoundException, NoSuchMethodException, SecurityException, IllegalAccessException, IllegalArgumentException, InvocationTargetException, IOException {
        String methodName1 = "methodA";
        String methodName2 = "methodB";
        MethodInvoke object = new MethodInvoke();
        callMethodByName(object, methodName1);
        callMethodByName(object, methodName2, 1, "Test");
    }

    public static void callMethodByName(Object object, String methodName) throws IllegalAccessException, InvocationTargetException, NoSuchMethodException {
        object.getClass().getDeclaredMethod(methodName).invoke(object);
    }

    public static void callMethodByName(Object object, String methodName, int i, String s) throws IllegalAccessException, InvocationTargetException, NoSuchMethodException {
        object.getClass().getDeclaredMethod(methodName, int.class, String.class).invoke(object, i, s);
    }

    void methodA() {
        System.out.println("Method A");
    }

    void methodB(int i, String s) {
        System.out.println("Method B: "+"\n\tParam1 - "+i+"\n\tParam 2 - "+s);
    }
}

Output:

Method A
Method B:
	Param1 - 1
	Param 2 - Test

How to make an HTTP request + basic auth in Swift

my solution works as follows:

import UIKit

class LoginViewController: UIViewController, NSURLConnectionDataDelegate {

  @IBOutlet var usernameTextField: UITextField
  @IBOutlet var passwordTextField: UITextField

  @IBAction func login(sender: AnyObject) {
    var url = NSURL(string: "YOUR_URL")
    var request = NSURLRequest(URL: url)
    var connection = NSURLConnection(request: request, delegate: self, startImmediately: true)

  }

  func connection(connection:NSURLConnection!, willSendRequestForAuthenticationChallenge challenge:NSURLAuthenticationChallenge!) {

    if challenge.previousFailureCount > 1 {

    } else {
        let creds = NSURLCredential(user: usernameTextField.text, password: passwordTextField.text, persistence: NSURLCredentialPersistence.None)
        challenge.sender.useCredential(creds, forAuthenticationChallenge: challenge)

    }

}

  func connection(connection:NSURLConnection!, didReceiveResponse response: NSURLResponse) {
    let status = (response as NSHTTPURLResponse).statusCode
    println("status code is \(status)")
    // 200? Yeah authentication was successful
  }

  override func viewDidLoad() {
    super.viewDidLoad()

  }

  override func didReceiveMemoryWarning() {
    super.didReceiveMemoryWarning()

  }
}

You can use this class as the implementation of a ViewController. Connect your fields to the IBOutlet annotated vars and your Button to the IBAction annotated function.

Explanation: In function login you create your request with NSURL, NSURLRequest and NSURLConnection. Essential here is the delegate which references to this class (self). For receiving the delegates calls you need to

  • Add the protocol NSURLConnectionDataDelegate to the class
  • Implement the protocols' function "connection:willSendRequestForAuthenticationChallenge" This is used for adding the credentials to the request
  • Implement the protocols' function "connection:didReceiveResponse" This will check the http response status code

                data.append(key, _doc[key]);
            });
            var _refs = this.$refs;
            Object.keys(_refs).forEach(function (key) {
                data.append(key, _refs[key].files[0]);
            });

            debugger;
            $.ajax({
                type: "POST",
                data: data,
                url: url,

How to programmatically click a button in WPF?

One way to programmatically "click" the button, if you have access to the source, is to simply call the button's OnClick event handler (or Execute the ICommand associated with the button, if you're doing things in the more WPF-y manner).

Why are you doing this? Are you doing some sort of automated testing, for example, or trying to perform the same action that the button performs from a different section of code?

CreateProcess: No such file or directory

I just had this problem.

In my case, the problem was due to problems when downloading the packages for GCC. The mingw-get program thought it finished the download, but it didn't.

I wanted to upgrade GCC, so I used mingw-get to get the newer version. For some reason, mingw-get thought the download for a particular file was finished, but it wasn't. When it went to extract the file, I guess it issued an error (which I didn't even bother to look -- I just ran "mingw-get update && mingw-get install mingw32-gcc" and left it there).

To solve, I removed gcc by doing "mingw-get remove mingw32-gcc" and also removed the package file (the one mingw-get didn't fully download), which was in the mingw cache folder ("C:\MinGW\var\cache\mingw-get\packages" in my system), then ran the install command again. It download and installed the missing parts of GCC (it had not fully downloaded the package gcc-core).

That solved my problem.

Interestingly enough, mingw-get was smart enough to continue the download of gcc-core even after me having deleted the package file in the cache folder, and also removed the package mingw32-gcc.

I think the more fundamental problem was that since gcc-core files were not installed, cc1 wasn't there. And gcc uses cc1. I guess that, when gcc tried to start cc1, it used CreateProcess somewhere passing the path of cc1, which was not the path of an existing file. Thus the error message.

Is it possible to use Java 8 for Android development?

Java : Accessing a class within a package, which is the better way?

They're equivalent. The access is the same.

The import is just a convention to save you from having to type the fully-resolved class name each time. You can write all your Java without using import, as long as you're a fast touch typer.

But there's no difference in efficiency or class loading.

How do I select the "last child" with a specific class name in CSS?

This can be done using an attribute selector.

[class~='list']:last-of-type  {
    background: #000;
}

The class~ selects a specific whole word. This allows your list item to have multiple classes if need be, in various order. It'll still find the exact class "list" and apply the style to the last one.

See a working example here: http://codepen.io/chasebank/pen/ZYyeab

Why is "using namespace std;" considered bad practice?

To answer your question I look at it this way practically: a lot of programmers (not all) invoke namespace std. Therefore one should be in the habit of NOT using things that impinge or use the same names as what is in the namespace std. That is a great deal granted, but not so much compared to the number of possible coherent words and pseudonyms that can be come up with strictly speaking.

I mean really... saying "don't rely on this being present" is just setting you up to rely on it NOT being present. You are constantly going to have issues borrowing code snippets and constantly repairing them. Just keep your user-defined and borrowed stuff in limited scope as they should be and be VERY sparing with globals (honestly globals should almost always be a last resort for purposes of "compile now, sanity later"). Truly I think it is bad advice from your teacher because using std will work for both "cout" and "std::cout" but NOT using std will only work for "std::cout". You will not always be fortunate enough to write all your own code.

NOTE: Don't focus too much on efficiency issues until you actually learn a little about how compilers work. With a little experience coding you don't have to learn that much about them before you realize how much they are able to generalize good code into something something simple. Every bit as simple as if you wrote the whole thing in C. Good code is only as complex as it needs to be.

Python class inherits object

Python 3

  • class MyClass(object): = New-style class
  • class MyClass: = New-style class (implicitly inherits from object)

Python 2

  • class MyClass(object): = New-style class
  • class MyClass: = OLD-STYLE CLASS

Explanation:

When defining base classes in Python 3.x, you’re allowed to drop the object from the definition. However, this can open the door for a seriously hard to track problem…

Python introduced new-style classes back in Python 2.2, and by now old-style classes are really quite old. Discussion of old-style classes is buried in the 2.x docs, and non-existent in the 3.x docs.

The problem is, the syntax for old-style classes in Python 2.x is the same as the alternative syntax for new-style classes in Python 3.x. Python 2.x is still very widely used (e.g. GAE, Web2Py), and any code (or coder) unwittingly bringing 3.x-style class definitions into 2.x code is going to end up with some seriously outdated base objects. And because old-style classes aren’t on anyone’s radar, they likely won’t know what hit them.

So just spell it out the long way and save some 2.x developer the tears.

How do I search within an array of hashes by hash values in ruby?

if your array looks like

array = [
 {:name => "Hitesh" , :age => 27 , :place => "xyz"} ,
 {:name => "John" , :age => 26 , :place => "xtz"} ,
 {:name => "Anil" , :age => 26 , :place => "xsz"}
]

And you Want To know if some value is already present in your array. Use Find Method

array.find {|x| x[:name] == "Hitesh"}

This will return object if Hitesh is present in name otherwise return nil

Save a list to a .txt file

You can use inbuilt library pickle

This library allows you to save any object in python to a file

This library will maintain the format as well

import pickle
with open('/content/list_1.txt', 'wb') as fp:
    pickle.dump(list_1, fp)

you can also read the list back as an object using same library

with open ('/content/list_1.txt', 'rb') as fp:
    list_1 = pickle.load(fp)

What's the difference between all the Selection Segues?

Here is a quick summary of the segues and an example for each type.

Show - Pushes the destination view controller onto the navigation stack, sliding overtop from right to left, providing a back button to return to the source - or if not embedded in a navigation controller it will be presented modally
Example: Navigating inboxes/folders in Mail

Show Detail - For use in a split view controller, replaces the detail/secondary view controller when in an expanded 2 column interface, otherwise if collapsed to 1 column it will push in a navigation controller
Example: In Messages, tapping a conversation will show the conversation details - replacing the view controller on the right when in a two column layout, or push the conversation when in a single column layout

Present Modally - Presents a view controller in various animated fashions as defined by the Presentation option, covering the previous view controller - most commonly used to present a view controller that animates up from the bottom and covers the entire screen on iPhone, or on iPad it's common to present it as a centered box that darkens the presenting view controller
Example: Selecting Touch ID & Passcode in Settings

Popover Presentation - When run on iPad, the destination appears in a popover, and tapping anywhere outside of this popover will dismiss it, or on iPhone popovers are supported as well but by default it will present the destination modally over the full screen
Example: Tapping the + button in Calendar

Custom - You may implement your own custom segue and have control over its behavior

The deprecated segues are essentially the non-adaptive equivalents of those described above. These segue types were deprecated in iOS 8: Push, Modal, Popover, Replace.

For more info, you may read over the Using Segues documentation which also explains the types of segues and how to use them in a Storyboard. Also check out Session 216 Building Adaptive Apps with UIKit from WWDC 2014. They talked about how you can build adaptive apps using these new Adaptive Segues, and they built a demo project that utilizes these segues.

jQuery Get Selected Option From Dropdown

If you are in event context, in jQuery, you can retrieve the selected option element using :
$(this).find('option:selected') like this :

$('dropdown_selector').change(function() {
    //Use $option (with the "$") to see that the variable is a jQuery object
    var $option = $(this).find('option:selected');
    //Added with the EDIT
    var value = $option.val();//to get content of "value" attrib
    var text = $option.text();//to get <option>Text</option> content
});

Edit

As mentioned by PossessWithin, My answer just answer to the question : How to select selected "Option".

Next, to get the option value, use option.val().

Start an Activity with a parameter

Put an int which is your id into the new Intent.

Intent intent = new Intent(FirstActivity.this, SecondActivity.class);
Bundle b = new Bundle();
b.putInt("key", 1); //Your id
intent.putExtras(b); //Put your id to your next Intent
startActivity(intent);
finish();

Then grab the id in your new Activity:

Bundle b = getIntent().getExtras();
int value = -1; // or other values
if(b != null)
    value = b.getInt("key");

How do I pick randomly from an array?

Just use Array#sample:

[:foo, :bar].sample # => :foo, or :bar :-)

It is available in Ruby 1.9.1+. To be also able to use it with an earlier version of Ruby, you could require "backports/1.9.1/array/sample".

Note that in Ruby 1.8.7 it exists under the unfortunate name choice; it was renamed in later version so you shouldn't use that.

Although not useful in this case, sample accepts a number argument in case you want a number of distinct samples.

How do I use this JavaScript variable in HTML?

The HTML tags that you want to edit is called the DOM (Document object manipulate), you can edit the DOM with many functions in the document global object.

The best example that would work on almost any browser is the document.getElementById, it's search for html tag with that id set as an attribute.

There is another option which is easier but works only on modern browsers (IE8+), the querySelector function, it's will find the first element with the matched selector (CSS selectors).

Examples for both options:

_x000D_
_x000D_
<script>_x000D_
var name = prompt("What's your name?");_x000D_
var lengthOfName = name.length_x000D_
</script>_x000D_
<body>_x000D_
  <p id="a"></p>_x000D_
  <p id="b"></p>_x000D_
  <script>_x000D_
    document.getElementById('a').innerHTML = name;_x000D_
document.querySelector('#b').innerHTML = name.length;</script>_x000D_
</body>
_x000D_

Parameter "stratify" from method "train_test_split" (scikit Learn)

This stratify parameter makes a split so that the proportion of values in the sample produced will be the same as the proportion of values provided to parameter stratify.

For example, if variable y is a binary categorical variable with values 0 and 1 and there are 25% of zeros and 75% of ones, stratify=y will make sure that your random split has 25% of 0's and 75% of 1's.

How to set "style=display:none;" using jQuery's attr method?

Why not just use $('#msform').hide()? Behind the scene jQuery's hide and show just set display: none or display: block.

hide() will not change the style if already hidden.

based on the comment below, you are removing all style with removeAttr("style"), in which case call hide() immediately after that.

e.g.

$("#msform").removeAttr("style").hide();

The reverse of this is of course show() as in

$("#msform").show();

Or, more interestingly, toggle(), which effective flips between hide() and show() based on the current state.

What does it mean when the size of a VARCHAR2 in Oracle is declared as 1 byte?

To answer you first question:
Yes, it means that 1 byte allocates for 1 character. Look at this example

SQL> conn / as sysdba
Connected.
SQL> create table test (id number(10), v_char varchar2(10));

Table created.

SQL> insert into test values(11111111111,'darshan');
insert into test values(11111111111,'darshan')
*
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-01438: value larger than specified precision allows for this column

SQL> insert into test values(11111,'darshandarsh');
insert into test values(11111,'darshandarsh')
*
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-12899: value too large for column "SYS"."TEST"."V_CHAR" (actual: 12,
maximum: 10)

SQL> insert into test values(111,'Darshan');

1 row created.

SQL>

And to answer your next one: The difference between varchar2 and varchar :

  1. VARCHAR can store up to 2000 bytes of characters while VARCHAR2 can store up to 4000 bytes of characters.
  2. If we declare datatype as VARCHAR then it will occupy space for NULL values, In case of VARCHAR2 datatype it will not occupy any space.

How to echo JSON in PHP

if you want to encode or decode an array from or to JSON you can use these functions

$myJSONString = json_encode($myArray);
$myArray = json_decode($myString);

json_encode will result in a JSON string, built from an (multi-dimensional) array. json_decode will result in an Array, built from a well formed JSON string

with json_decode you can take the results from the API and only output what you want, for example:

echo $myArray['payload']['ign'];

Try this

Installing with Anaconda

conda create --name tensorflow python=3.5

pip install tensorflow-gpu

It is important to add python=3.5 at the end of the first line, because it will install Python 3.5.

PHP FPM - check if running

PHP-FPM is a service that spawns new PHP processes when needed, usually through a fast-cgi module like nginx. You can tell (with a margin of error) by just checking the init.d script e.g. "sudo /etc/init.d/php-fpm status"

What port or unix file socket is being used is up to the configuration, but often is just TCP port 9000. i.e. 127.0.0.1:9000

The best way to tell if it is running correctly is to have nginx running, and setup a virtual host that will fast-cgi pass to PHP-FPM, and just check it with wget or a browser.

How to conditional format based on multiple specific text in Excel

Suppose your "Don't Check" list is on Sheet2 in cells A1:A100, say, and your current client IDs are in Sheet1 in Column A.

What you would do is:

  1. Select the whole data table you want conditionally formatted in Sheet1
  2. Click Conditional Formatting > New Rule > Use a Formula to determine which cells to format
  3. In the formula bar, type in =ISNUMBER(MATCH($A1,Sheet2!$A$1:$A$100,0)) and select how you want those rows formatted

And that should do the trick.

SELECT INTO using Oracle

If NEW_TABLE already exists then ...

insert into new_table
select * from old_table
/

If you want to create NEW_TABLE based on the records in OLD_TABLE ...

create table new_table as
select * from old_table
/

If the purpose is to create a new but empty table then use a WHERE clause with a condition which can never be true:

create table new_table as
select * from old_table
where 1 = 2
/

Remember that CREATE TABLE ... AS SELECT creates only a table with the same projection as the source table. The new table does not have any constraints, triggers or indexes which the original table might have. Those still have to be added manually (if they are required).

mysqli_fetch_array while loop columns

Both will works perfectly in mysqli_fetch_array in while loops

while($row = mysqli_fetch_array($result,MYSQLI_BOTH)) {
    $posts[] = $row['post_id'].$row['post_title'].$row['content'];
}

(OR)

while($row = mysqli_fetch_array($result,MYSQLI_ASSOC)) {
    $posts[] = $row['post_id'].$row['post_title'].$row['content'];
}

mysqli_fetch_array() - has second argument $resulttype.

MYSQLI_ASSOC: Fetch associative array

MYSQLI_NUM: Fetch numeric array

MYSQLI_BOTH: Fetch both associative and numeric array.

How to create query parameters in Javascript?

This should do the job:

const createQueryParams = params =>
      Object.keys(params)
            .map(k => `${k}=${encodeURI(params[k])}`)
            .join('&');

Example:

const params = { name : 'John', postcode: 'W1 2DL'}
const queryParams = createQueryParams(params)

Result:

name=John&postcode=W1%202DL

Calling functions in a DLL from C++

Can also export functions from dll and import from the exe, it is more tricky at first but in the end is much easier than calling LoadLibrary/GetProcAddress. See MSDN.

When creating the project with the VS wizard there's a check box in the dll that let you export functions.

Then, in the exe application you only have to #include a header from the dll with the proper definitions, and add the dll project as a dependency to the exe application.

Check this other question if you want to investigate this point further Exporting functions from a DLL with dllexport.

Azure SQL Database "DTU percentage" metric

From this document, this DTU percent is determined by this query:

SELECT end_time,
  (SELECT Max(v)
   FROM (VALUES (avg_cpu_percent), (avg_data_io_percent),
(avg_log_write_percent)) AS
   value(v)) AS [avg_DTU_percent]
FROM sys.dm_db_resource_stats;

looks like the max of avg_cpu_percent, avg_data_io_percent and avg_log_write_percent

Getting "Lock wait timeout exceeded; try restarting transaction" even though I'm not using a transaction

None of the suggested solutions worked for me but this did.

Something is blocking the execution of the query. Most likely another query updating, inserting or deleting from one of the tables in your query. You have to find out what that is:

SHOW PROCESSLIST;

Once you locate the blocking process, find its id and run :

KILL {id};

Re-run your initial query.

How to deal with http status codes other than 200 in Angular 2

Yes you can handle with the catch operator like this and show alert as you want but firstly you have to import Rxjs for the same like this way

import {Observable} from 'rxjs/Rx';

return this.http.request(new Request(this.requestoptions))
            .map((res: Response) => {
                if (res) {
                    if (res.status === 201) {
                        return [{ status: res.status, json: res }]
                    }
                    else if (res.status === 200) {
                        return [{ status: res.status, json: res }]
                    }
                }
            }).catch((error: any) => {
                if (error.status === 500) {
                    return Observable.throw(new Error(error.status));
                }
                else if (error.status === 400) {
                    return Observable.throw(new Error(error.status));
                }
                else if (error.status === 409) {
                    return Observable.throw(new Error(error.status));
                }
                else if (error.status === 406) {
                    return Observable.throw(new Error(error.status));
                }
            });
    }

also you can handel error (with err block) that is throw by catch block while .map function,

like this -

...
.subscribe(res=>{....}
           err => {//handel here});

Update

as required for any status without checking particluar one you can try this: -

return this.http.request(new Request(this.requestoptions))
            .map((res: Response) => {
                if (res) {
                    if (res.status === 201) {
                        return [{ status: res.status, json: res }]
                    }
                    else if (res.status === 200) {
                        return [{ status: res.status, json: res }]
                    }
                }
            }).catch((error: any) => {
                if (error.status < 400 ||  error.status ===500) {
                    return Observable.throw(new Error(error.status));
                }
            })
            .subscribe(res => {...},
                       err => {console.log(err)} );

How do I debug jquery AJAX calls?

Firebug as Firefox (FF) extension is currently (as per 01/2017) the only way to debug direct javascript responses from AJAX calls. Unfortunately, it's development is discontinued. And since Firefox 50, the Firebug also cannot be installed anymore due to compatability issues :-( They kind of emulated FF developer tools UI to recall Firebug UI in some way.

Unfortunatelly, FF native developer tools are not able to debug javascript returned directly by AJAX calls. Same applies to Chrome devel. tools.

I must have disabled upgrades of FF due to this issue, since I badly need to debug JS from XHR calls on current project. So not good news here - let's hope the feature to debug direct JS responses will be incorporated into FF/Chrome developer tools soon.

Javascript swap array elements

Just for the fun of it, another way without using any extra variable would be:

_x000D_
_x000D_
var arr = [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9];_x000D_
_x000D_
// swap index 0 and 2_x000D_
arr[arr.length] = arr[0];   // copy idx1 to the end of the array_x000D_
arr[0] = arr[2];            // copy idx2 to idx1_x000D_
arr[2] = arr[arr.length-1]; // copy idx1 to idx2_x000D_
arr.length--; // remove idx1 (was added to the end of the array)_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_
console.log( arr ); // -> [3, 2, 1, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9]

How to scanf only integer and repeat reading if the user enters non-numeric characters?

You will need to repeat your call to strtol inside your loops where you are asking the user to try again. In fact, if you make the loop a do { ... } while(...); instead of while, you don't get a the same sort of repeat things twice behaviour.

You should also format your code so that it's possible to see where the code is inside a loop and not.

creating an array of structs in c++

You can't use an initialization-list for a struct after it's been initialized. You've already default-initialized the two Customer structs when you declared the array customerRecords. Therefore you're going to have either use member-access syntax to set the value of the non-static data members, initialize the structs using a list of initialization lists when you declare the array itself, or you can create a constructor for your struct and use the default operator= member function to initialize the array members.

So either of the following could work:

Customer customerRecords[2];
customerRecords[0].uid = 25;
customerRecords[0].name = "Bob Jones";
customerRecords[1].uid = 25;
customerRecords[1].namem = "Jim Smith";

Or if you defined a constructor for your struct like:

Customer::Customer(int id, string input_name): uid(id), name(input_name) {}

You could then do:

Customer customerRecords[2];
customerRecords[0] = Customer(25, "Bob Jones");
customerRecords[1] = Customer(26, "Jim Smith");

Or you could do the sequence of initialization lists that Tuomas used in his answer. The reason his initialization-list syntax works is because you're actually initializing the Customer structs at the time of the declaration of the array, rather than allowing the structs to be default-initialized which takes place whenever you declare an aggregate data-structure like an array.

C# Creating an array of arrays

What you need to do is this:

int[] list1 = new int[4] { 1, 2, 3, 4};
int[] list2 = new int[4] { 5, 6, 7, 8};
int[] list3 = new int[4] { 1, 3, 2, 1 };
int[] list4 = new int[4] { 5, 4, 3, 2 };

int[][] lists = new int[][] {  list1 ,  list2 ,  list3 ,  list4  };

Another alternative would be to create a List<int[]> type:

List<int[]> data=new List<int[]>(){list1,list2,list3,list4};

Export tables to an excel spreadsheet in same directory

For people who find this via search engines, you do not need VBA. You can just:

1.) select the query or table with your mouse
2.) click export data from the ribbon
3.) click excel from the export subgroup
4.) follow the wizard to select the output file and location.

Is a Python dictionary an example of a hash table?

There must be more to a Python dictionary than a table lookup on hash(). By brute experimentation I found this hash collision:

>>> hash(1.1)
2040142438
>>> hash(4504.1)
2040142438

Yet it doesn't break the dictionary:

>>> d = { 1.1: 'a', 4504.1: 'b' }
>>> d[1.1]
'a'
>>> d[4504.1]
'b'

Sanity check:

>>> for k,v in d.items(): print(hash(k))
2040142438
2040142438

Possibly there's another lookup level beyond hash() that avoids collisions between dictionary keys. Or maybe dict() uses a different hash.

(By the way, this in Python 2.7.10. Same story in Python 3.4.3 and 3.5.0 with a collision at hash(1.1) == hash(214748749.8).)

Secondary axis with twinx(): how to add to legend?

A quick hack that may suit your needs..

Take off the frame of the box and manually position the two legends next to each other. Something like this..

ax1.legend(loc = (.75,.1), frameon = False)
ax2.legend( loc = (.75, .05), frameon = False)

Where the loc tuple is left-to-right and bottom-to-top percentages that represent the location in the chart.

How to construct a WebSocket URI relative to the page URI?

    var url = protocol + location.host;
    if(location.hostname === 'localhost') {

    }

How do I print colored output to the terminal in Python?

There are a few libraries that help out here. For cmdline tools I sometimes use colorama.

e.g.

from colorama import init, Fore, Back, Style
init()

def cprint(msg, foreground = "black", background = "white"):
    fground = foreground.upper()
    bground = background.upper()
    style = getattr(Fore, fground) + getattr(Back, bground)
    print(style + msg + Style.RESET_ALL)

cprint("colorful output, wohoo", "red", "black")

But instead of using strings, you might want to use an enum and/or add a few checks. Not the prettiest solution, but works on osx/linux and windows and is easy to use.

Pytorch reshape tensor dimension

Assume the following code:

import torch
import numpy as np
a = torch.tensor([1, 2, 3, 4, 5])

The following three calls have the exact same effect:

res_1 = a.unsqueeze(0)
res_2 = a.view(1, 5)
res_3 = a[np.newaxis,:]
res_1.shape == res_2.shape == res_3.shape == (1,5)  # Returns true

Notice that for any of the resulting tensors, if you modify the data in them, you are also modifying the data in a, because they don't have a copy of the data, but reference the original data in a.

res_1[0,0] = 2
a[0] == res_1[0,0] == 2  # Returns true

The other way of doing it would be using the resize_ in place operation:

a.shape == res_1.shape  # Returns false
a.reshape_((1, 5))
a.shape == res_1.shape # Returns true

Be careful of using resize_ or other in-place operation with autograd. See the following discussion: https://pytorch.org/docs/stable/notes/autograd.html#in-place-operations-with-autograd

How to create a MySQL hierarchical recursive query?

Just use BlueM/tree php class for make tree of a self-relation table in mysql.

Tree and Tree\Node are PHP classes for handling data that is structured hierarchically using parent ID references. A typical example is a table in a relational database where each record’s “parent” field references the primary key of another record. Of course, Tree cannot only use data originating from a database, but anything: you supply the data, and Tree uses it, regardless of where the data came from and how it was processed. read more

Here is an example of using BlueM/tree:

<?php
require '/path/to/vendor/autoload.php'; $db = new PDO(...); // Set up your database connection
$stm = $db->query('SELECT id, parent, title FROM tablename ORDER BY title');
$records = $stm->fetchAll(PDO::FETCH_ASSOC);
$tree = new BlueM\Tree($records);

How to delete directory content in Java?

You have to do this for each File:

Getting Image from URL (Java)

You can try the this class to displays an image read from a URL within a JFrame.

public class ShowImageFromURL {

    public static void show(String urlLocation) {
        Image image = null;
        try {
            URL url = new URL(urlLocation);
            URLConnection conn = url.openConnection();
            conn.setRequestProperty("User-Agent", "Mozilla/5.0");

            conn.connect();
            InputStream urlStream = conn.getInputStream();
            image = ImageIO.read(urlStream);

            JFrame frame = new JFrame();
            JLabel lblimage = new JLabel(new ImageIcon(image));
            frame.getContentPane().add(lblimage, BorderLayout.CENTER);
            frame.setSize(image.getWidth(null) + 50, image.getHeight(null) + 50);
            frame.setVisible(true);

        } catch (IOException e) {
            System.out.println("Something went wrong, sorry:" + e.toString());
            e.printStackTrace();

How do I detect whether a Python variable is a function?

Note that Python classes are also callable.

To get functions (and by functions we mean standard functions and lambdas) use:

import types

def is_func(obj):
    return isinstance(obj, (types.FunctionType, types.LambdaType))

def f(x):
    return x

assert is_func(f)
assert is_func(lambda x: x)

Where is svcutil.exe in Windows 7?

With latest version of windows (e.g. Windows 10, other servers), type/search for "Developers Command prompt.." It will pop up the relevant command prompt for the Visual Studio version.

e.g. Developer Command Prompt for VS 2015

How to set String's font size, style in Java using the Font class?

Look here http://docs.oracle.com/javase/6/docs/api/java/awt/Font.html#deriveFont%28float%29

JComponent has a setFont() method. You will control the font there, not on the String.

Such as

JButton b = new JButton();
b.setFont(b.getFont().deriveFont(18.0f));

Send POST parameters with MultipartFormData using Alamofire, in iOS Swift

For Swift 4.2 / Alamofire 4.7.3

Alamofire.upload(multipartFormData: { multipart in
    multipart.append(fileData, withName: "payload", fileName: "someFile.jpg", mimeType: "image/jpeg")
    multipart.append("comment".data(using: .utf8)!, withName :"comment")
}, to: "endPointURL", method: .post, headers: nil) { encodingResult in
    switch encodingResult {
    case .success(let upload, _, _):
        upload.response { answer in
            print("statusCode: \(answer.response?.statusCode)")
        }
        upload.uploadProgress { progress in
            //call progress callback here if you need it
        }
    case .failure(let encodingError):
        print("multipart upload encodingError: \(encodingError)")
    }
}

Also you could take a look at CodyFire lib it makes API calls easier using Codable for everything. Example for Multipart call using CodyFire

//Declare your multipart payload model
struct MyPayload: MultipartPayload {
    var attachment: Attachment //or you could use just Data instead
    var comment: String
}

// Prepare payload for request
let imageAttachment = Attachment(data: UIImage(named: "cat")!.jpeg(.high)!,
                                 fileName: "cat.jpg",
                                 mimeType: .jpg)
let payload = MyPayload(attachment: imageAttachment, comment: "Some text")

//Send request easily
APIRequest("endpoint", payload: payload)
    .method(.post)
    .desiredStatus(.created) //201 CREATED
    .onError { error in
        switch error.code {
        case .notFound: print("Not found")
        default: print("Another error: " + error.description)
        }
    }.onSuccess { result in
        print("here is your decoded result")
    }
//Btw normally it should be wrapped into an extension
//so it should look even easier API.some.upload(payload).onError{}.onSuccess{}

You could take a look at all the examples in lib's readme

Deploying just HTML, CSS webpage to Tomcat

There is no real need to create a war to run it from Tomcat. You can follow these steps

  1. Create a folder in webapps folder e.g. MyApp

  2. Put your html and css in that folder and name the html file, which you want to be the starting page for your application, index.html

  3. Start tomcat and point your browser to url "http://localhost:8080/MyApp". Your index.html page will pop up in the browser

Why is Maven downloading the maven-metadata.xml every time?

Maven does this because your dependency is in a SNAPSHOT version and maven has no way to detect any changes made to that snapshot version in the repository. Release your artifact and change the version in pom.xml to that version and maven will no longer fetch the metadata file.

How to get Current Directory?

To find the directory where your executable is, you can use:

TCHAR szFilePath[_MAX_PATH];
::GetModuleFileName(NULL, szFilePath, _MAX_PATH);

usr/bin/ld: cannot find -l<nameOfTheLibrary>

During compilation with g++ via make define LIBRARY_PATH if it may not be appropriate to change the Makefile with the -Loption. I had put my extra library in /opt/lib so I did:

$ export LIBRARY_PATH=/opt/lib/

and then ran make for successful compilation and linking.

To run the program with a shared library define:

$ export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/opt/lib/

before executing the program.

How to get temporary folder for current user

I have this same requirement - we want to put logs in a specific root directory that should exist within the environment.

public static readonly string DefaultLogFilePath = Environment.GetFolderPath(Environment.SpecialFolder.UserProfile);

If I want to combine this with a sub-directory, I should be able to use Path.Combine( ... ).

The GetFolderPath method has an overload for special folder options which allows you to control whether the specified path be created or simply verified.

Create ArrayList from array

Use below script

Object[] myNum = {10, 20, 30, 40};
List<Object> newArr = new ArrayList<>(Arrays.asList(myNum));

Use sed to replace all backslashes with forward slashes

for just translating one char into another throughout a string, tr is the best tool:

tr '\\' '/'

How to set layout_weight attribute dynamically from code?

If you already define your view in your layout(xml) file, only want to change the weight programmatically, this way is better

LinearLayout.LayoutParams params = (LinearLayout.LayoutParams)
mButton.getLayoutParams();
params.weight = 1.0f;
mButton.setLayoutParams(params);

new a LayoutParams overwrites other params defined in you xml file like margins, or you need to specify all of them in LayoutParams.

Format Date output in JSF

With EL 2 (Expression Language 2) you can use this type of construct for your question:

    #{formatBean.format(myBean.birthdate)}

Or you can add an alternate getter in your bean resulting in

    #{myBean.birthdateString}

where getBirthdateString returns the proper text representation. Remember to annotate the get method as @Transient if it is an Entity.

Difference between JSON.stringify and JSON.parse

They are the inverse of each other. JSON.stringify() serializes a JS object into a JSON string, whereas JSON.parse() will deserialize a JSON string into a JS object.

Apache Maven install "'mvn' not recognized as an internal or external command" after setting OS environmental variables?

I was facing the same issue while executing the command mvn -version; however, I checked I had also set the mvn options in the environment variables setting, which gave me some Heap memory issue on the command prompt. So, I removed the maven options that I had set and then it worked fine for me.

How to return multiple values in one column (T-SQL)?

You can use a function with COALESCE.

CREATE FUNCTION [dbo].[GetAliasesById]
(
    @userID int
)
RETURNS varchar(max)
AS
BEGIN
    declare @output varchar(max)
    select @output = COALESCE(@output + ', ', '') + alias
    from UserAliases
    where userid = @userID

    return @output
END

GO

SELECT UserID, dbo.GetAliasesByID(UserID)
FROM UserAliases
GROUP BY UserID

GO

Get Application Directory

If you're trying to get access to a file, try the openFileOutput() and openFileInput() methods as described here. They automatically open input/output streams to the specified file in internal memory. This allows you to bypass the directory and File objects altogether which is a pretty clean solution.

Could not load dynamic library 'cudart64_101.dll' on tensorflow CPU-only installation

To install the prerequisites for GPU support in TensorFlow 2.1:

  1. Install your latest GPU drivers.
  2. Install CUDA 10.1.
    • If the CUDA installer reports "you are installing an older driver version", you may wish to choose a custom installation and deselect some components. Indeed, note that software bundled with CUDA including GeForce Experience, PhysX, a Display Driver, and Visual Studio integration are not required by TensorFlow.
    • Also note that TensorFlow requires a specific version of the CUDA Toolkit unless you build from source; for TensorFlow 2.1 and 2.2, this is currently version 10.1.
  3. Install cuDNN.
    1. Download cuDNN v7.6.4 for CUDA 10.1. This will require you to sign up to the NVIDIA Developer Program.
    2. Unzip to a suitable location and add the bin directory to your PATH.
  4. Install tensorflow by pip install tensorflow.
  5. You may need to restart your PC.

ReCaptcha API v2 Styling

You can also choose between a dark or light ReCaptcha theme. I used this in one of my Angular 8 Apps

getElementsByClassName not working

There are several issues:

  1. Class names (and IDs) are not allowed to start with a digit.
  2. You have to pass a class to getElementsByClassName().
  3. You have to iterate of the result set.

Example (untested):

<script type="text/javascript">
function hideTd(className){
    var elements = document.getElementsByClassName(className);
    for(var i = 0, length = elements.length; i < length; i++) {
       if( elements[i].textContent == ''){
          elements[i].style.display = 'none';
       }
    }

  }
</script>
</head>
<body onload="hideTd('td');">
<table border="1">
  <tr>
    <td class="td">not empty</td>
  </tr>
  <tr>
    <td class="td"></td>
  </tr>
  <tr>
    <td class="td"></td>
  </tr>
</table>
</body>

Note that getElementsByClassName() is not available up to and including IE8.

Update:

Alternatively you can give the table an ID and use:

var elements = document.getElementById('tableID').getElementsByTagName('td');

to get all td elements.

To hide the parent row, use the parentNode property of the element:

elements[i].parentNode.style.display = "none";

jquery append external html file into my page

        <script type="text/javascript">
            $(function () {
                $.get("banner.html", function (data) {
                    $("#appendToThis").append(data);
                });
            });
        </script>
    </head>
    <body>
        <div id="appendToThis"></div>
    </body>
</html>

java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: View not attached to window manager

I too get this error sometimes when I dismiss dialog and finish activity from onPostExecute method. I guess sometimes activity gets finished before dialog successfully dismisses.

Simple, yet effective solution that works for me

Get a random boolean in python?

Adam's answer is quite fast, but I found that random.getrandbits(1) to be quite a lot faster. If you really want a boolean instead of a long then

bool(random.getrandbits(1))

is still about twice as fast as random.choice([True, False])

Both solutions need to import random

If utmost speed isn't to priority then random.choice definitely reads better

$ python -m timeit -s "import random" "random.choice([True, False])"
1000000 loops, best of 3: 0.904 usec per loop
$ python -m timeit -s "import random" "random.choice((True, False))"
1000000 loops, best of 3: 0.846 usec per loop
$ python -m timeit -s "import random" "random.getrandbits(1)"
1000000 loops, best of 3: 0.286 usec per loop
$ python -m timeit -s "import random" "bool(random.getrandbits(1))"
1000000 loops, best of 3: 0.441 usec per loop
$ python -m timeit -s "import random" "not random.getrandbits(1)"
1000000 loops, best of 3: 0.308 usec per loop
$ python -m timeit -s "from random import getrandbits" "not getrandbits(1)"
1000000 loops, best of 3: 0.262 usec per loop # not takes about 20us of this

Added this one after seeing @Pavel's answer

$ python -m timeit -s "from random import random" "random() < 0.5"
10000000 loops, best of 3: 0.115 usec per loop

Laravel Eloquent compare date from datetime field

Command-line svn for Windows?

TortoiseSVN contains a console svn client, but by default the corresponding option is not enabled during installation.

The svn.exe executable is not standalone and it depends on some other files in the distribution but this should not be a problem in most cases.

Once installed you might need to add the folder containing svn.exe to the system PATH as described here so that it is available in your console. To check if it was already added by the installer open a new console and type echo %PATH%. Use set on its own to see all environmental variables.

How do I get the value of text input field using JavaScript?

If you are using jQuery then by using plugin formInteract, you just need to do this:

// Just keep the HTML as it is.

<input name="searchTxt" type="text" maxlength="512" id="searchTxt" class="searchField"/>

At bottom of the page just include this plugin file and write this code:

// Initialize one time at the bottom of the page.
var search= $("#searchTxt).formInteract();

search.getAjax("http://www.myurl.com/search/", function(rsp){
    // Now do whatever you want to with your response
});

Or if using a parameterized URL then use this:

$.get("http://www.myurl.com/search/"+search.get().searchTxt, {}, function(rsp){
    // Now do work with your response;
})

Here is the link to project https://bitbucket.org/ranjeet1985/forminteract

You can use this plugin for many purposes like getting the value of a form, putting values into a form, validation of forms and many more. You can see some example of code in the index.html file of the project.

Of course I am the author of this project and all are welcome to make it better.

How do I resolve a path relative to an ASP.NET MVC 4 application root?

To get the absolute path use this:

String path = HttpContext.Current.Server.MapPath("~/Data/data.html");

EDIT:

To get the Controller's Context remove .Current from the above line. By using HttpContext by itself it's easier to Test because it's based on the Controller's Context therefore more localized.

I realize now that I dislike how Server.MapPath works (internally eventually calls HostingEnvironment.MapPath) So I now recommend to always use HostingEnvironment.MapPath because its static and not dependent on the context unless of course you want that...

Changing Vim indentation behavior by file type

I usually work with expandtab set, but that's bad for makefiles. I recently added:

:autocmd FileType make set noexpandtab

to the end of my .vimrc file and it recognizes Makefile, makefile, and *.mk as makefiles and does not expand tabs. Presumably, you can extend this.

How do I calculate the normal vector of a line segment?

If we define dx = x2 - x1 and dy = y2 - y1, then the normals are (-dy, dx) and (dy, -dx).

Note that no division is required, and so you're not risking dividing by zero.

C++ array initialization

Yes, I believe it should work and it can also be applied to other data types.

For class arrays though, if there are fewer items in the initializer list than elements in the array, the default constructor is used for the remaining elements. If no default constructor is defined for the class, the initializer list must be complete — that is, there must be one initializer for each element in the array.

Notepad++ change text color?

A little late reply, but what I found in Notepad++ v7.8.6 is, on RMB (Right Mouse Button), on selection text, it gives an option called "Style token" where it shows "Using 1st/2nd/3rd/4th/5th style" to highlight the selected text in different pre-defined colors

What is the difference between Cygwin and MinGW?

Wikipedia does a comparison here.

From Cygwin's website:

  • Cygwin is a Linux-like environment for Windows. It consists of two parts: A DLL (cygwin1.dll) which acts as a Linux API emulation layer providing substantial Linux API functionality.
  • A collection of tools which provide Linux look and feel.

From Mingw's website:

MinGW ("Minimalistic GNU for Windows") is a collection of freely available and freely distributable Windows specific header files and import libraries combined with GNU toolsets that allow one to produce native Windows programs that do not rely on any 3rd-party C runtime DLLs

What range of values can integer types store in C++

You should look at the specialisations of the numeric_limits<> template for a given type. Its in the header.

How do I programmatically get the GUID of an application in .NET 2.0

For an out-of-the-box working example, this is what I ended up using based on the previous answers.

using System.Reflection;
using System.Runtime.InteropServices;

label1.Text = "GUID: " + ((GuidAttribute)Attribute.GetCustomAttribute(Assembly.GetExecutingAssembly(), typeof(GuidAttribute), false)).Value.ToUpper();

Alternatively, this way allows you to use it from a static class:

    /// <summary>
    /// public GUID property for use in static class </summary>
    /// <returns>
    /// Returns the application GUID or "" if unable to get it. </returns>
    static public string AssemblyGuid
    {
        get
        {
            object[] attributes = Assembly.GetEntryAssembly().GetCustomAttributes(typeof(GuidAttribute), false);
            if (attributes.Length == 0) { return String.Empty; }
            return ((System.Runtime.InteropServices.GuidAttribute)attributes[0]).Value.ToUpper();
        }
    }

ConcurrentHashMap vs Synchronized HashMap

We can achieve thread safety by using both ConcurrentHashMap and synchronisedHashmap. But there is a lot of difference if you look at their architecture.

  1. synchronisedHashmap

It will maintain the lock at the object level. So if you want to perform any operation like put/get then you have to acquire the lock first. At the same time, other threads are not allowed to perform any operation. So at a time, only one thread can operate on this. So the waiting time will increase here. We can say that performance is relatively low when you are comparing with ConcurrentHashMap.

  1. ConcurrentHashMap

It will maintain the lock at the segment level. It has 16 segments and maintains the concurrency level as 16 by default. So at a time, 16 threads can be able to operate on ConcurrentHashMap. Moreover, read operation doesn't require a lock. So any number of threads can perform a get operation on it.

If thread1 wants to perform put operation in segment 2 and thread2 wants to perform put operation on segment 4 then it is allowed here. Means, 16 threads can perform update(put/delete) operation on ConcurrentHashMap at a time.

So that the waiting time will be less here. Hence the performance is relatively better than synchronisedHashmap.

Using git to get just the latest revision

Alternate solution to doing shallow clone (git clone --depth=1 <URL>) would be, if remote side supports it, to use --remote option of git archive:

$ git archive --format=tar --remote=<repository URL> HEAD | tar xf -

Or, if remote repository in question is browse-able using some web interface like gitweb or GitHub, then there is a chance that it has 'snapshot' feature, and you can download latest version (without versioning information) from web interface.

What is the difference between join and merge in Pandas?

I believe that join() is just a convenience method. Try df1.merge(df2) instead, which allows you to specify left_on and right_on:

In [30]: left.merge(right, left_on="key1", right_on="key2")
Out[30]:
  key1  lval key2  rval
0  foo     1  foo     4
1  bar     2  bar     5

Git diff between current branch and master but not including unmerged master commits

According to Documentation

git diff Shows changes between the working tree and the index or a tree, changes between the index and a tree, changes between two trees, changes resulting from a merge, changes between two blob objects, or changes between two files on disk.

In git diff - There's a significant difference between two dots .. and 3 dots ... in the way we compare branches or pull requests in our repository. I'll give you an easy example which demonstrates it easily.

Example: Let's assume we're checking out new branch from master and pushing some code in.

  G---H---I feature (Branch)
 /
A---B---C---D master (Branch)
  • Two dots - If we want to show the diffs between all changes happened in the current time on both sides, We would use the git diff origin/master..feature or just git diff origin/master
    ,output: ( H, I against A, B, C, D )

  • Three dots - If we want to show the diffs between the last common ancestor (A), aka the check point we started our new branch ,we use git diff origin/master...feature,output: (H, I against A ).

  • I'd rather use the 3 dots in most circumstances.

How do I install and use the ASP.NET AJAX Control Toolkit in my .NET 3.5 web applications?

It's really simple, just download the latest toolkit from Codeplex and add the extracted AjaxControlToolkit.dll to your toolbox in Visual Studio by right clicking the toolbox and selecting 'choose items'. You will then have the controls in your Visual STudio toolbox and using them is just a matter of dragging and dropping them onto your form, of course don't forget to add a asp:ScriptManager to every page that uses controls from the toolkit, or optionally include it in your master page only and your content pages will inherit the script manager.

Move SQL data from one table to another

Should be possible using two statements within one transaction, an insert and a delete:

BEGIN TRANSACTION;
INSERT INTO Table2 (<columns>)
SELECT <columns>
FROM Table1
WHERE <condition>;

DELETE FROM Table1
WHERE <condition>;

COMMIT;

This is the simplest form. If you have to worry about new matching records being inserted into table1 between the two statements, you can add an and exists <in table2>.

How to make a promise from setTimeout

Implementation:

// Promisify setTimeout
const pause = (ms, cb, ...args) =>
  new Promise((resolve, reject) => {
    setTimeout(async () => {
      try {
        resolve(await cb?.(...args))
      } catch (error) {
        reject(error)
      }
    }, ms)
  })

Tests:

// Test 1
pause(1000).then(() => console.log('called'))
// Test 2
pause(1000, (a, b, c) => [a, b, c], 1, 2, 3).then(value => console.log(value))
// Test 3
pause(1000, () => {
  throw Error('foo')
}).catch(error => console.error(error))

How to exclude 0 from MIN formula Excel

All you have to do is to delete the "0" in the cells that contain just that and try again. That should work.

React: trigger onChange if input value is changing by state?

I think you should change that like so:

<input value={this.state.value} onChange={(e) => {this.handleChange(e)}}/>

That is in principle the same as onClick={this.handleClick.bind(this)} as you did on the button.

So if you want to call handleChange() when the button is clicked, than:

<button onClick={this.handleChange.bind(this)}>Change Input</button>

or

handleClick () {
  this.setState({value: 'another random text'});
  this.handleChange();
}

How to list only files and not directories of a directory Bash?

Using find:

find . -maxdepth 1 -type f

Using the -maxdepth 1 option ensures that you only look in the current directory (or, if you replace the . with some path, that directory). If you want a full recursive listing of all files in that and subdirectories, just remove that option.

Why check both isset() and !empty()

if we use same page to add/edit via submit button like below

<input type="hidden" value="<?echo $_GET['edit_id'];?>" name="edit_id">

then we should not use

isset($_POST['edit_id'])

bcoz edit_id is set all the time whether it is add or edit page , instead we should use check below condition

!empty($_POST['edit_id'])

C# Inserting Data from a form into an access Database

and doesnt give any clues

Yes it does, unfortunately your code is ignoring all of those clues. Take a look at your exception handler:

catch (OleDbException  ex)
{
    MessageBox.Show(ex.Source);
    conn.Close();
}

All you're examining is the source of the exception. Which, in this case, is "Microsoft Access Database Engine". You're not examining the error message itself, or the stack trace, or any inner exception, or anything useful about the exception.

Don't ignore the exception, it contains information about what went wrong and why.

There are various logging tools out there (NLog, log4net, etc.) which can help you log useful information about an exception. Failing that, you should at least capture the exception message, stack trace, and any inner exception(s). Currently you're ignoring the error, which is why you're not able to solve the error.

In your debugger, place a breakpoint inside the catch block and examine the details of the exception. You'll find it contains a lot of information.

Running javascript in Selenium using Python

Try browser.execute_script instead of selenium.GetEval.

See this answer for example.

How to show an alert box in PHP?

When I just run this as a page

<?php
echo '<script language="javascript">';
echo 'alert("message successfully sent")';
echo '</script>';
exit;

it works fine.

What version of PHP are you running?

Could you try echoing something else after: $testObject->split_for_sms($Chat);

Maybe it doesn't get to that part of the code? You could also try these with the other function calls to check where your program stops/is getting to.

Hope you get a bit further with this.

Setting the zoom level for a MKMapView

You can also zoom by using MKCoordinateRegion and setting its span latitude & longitude delta. Below is a quick reference and here is the iOS reference. It won't do anything fancy but should allow you to set zoom when it draws the map.

MKCoordinateRegion region;
region.center.latitude = {desired lat};
region.center.longitude = {desired lng};
region.span.latitudeDelta = 1;
region.span.longitudeDelta = 1;
mapView.region = region;

Edit 1:

MKCoordinateRegion region;
region.center.latitude = {desired lat};
region.center.longitude = {desired lng};
region.span.latitudeDelta = 1;
region.span.longitudeDelta = 1;
region = [mapView regionThatFits:region];
[mapView setRegion:region animated:TRUE];

Set today's date as default date in jQuery UI datepicker

This worked for me and also localised it:

$.datepicker.setDefaults( $.datepicker.regional[ "fr" ] );
$(function() {
   $( "#txtDespatchDate" ).datepicker( );
   $( "#txtDespatchDate" ).datepicker( "option", "dateFormat", "dd/mm/yy" );
   $('#txtDespatchDate').datepicker('setDate', new Date());
});

Color theme for VS Code integrated terminal

VSCode comes with in-built color themes which can be used to change the colors of the editor and the terminal.

  • For changing the color theme press ctrl+k+t in windows/ubuntu or cmd+k+t on mac.
  • Alternatively you can open command palette by pressing ctrl+shift+p in windows/ubuntu or cmd+shift+p on mac and type color. Select preferences: color theme from the options, to select your favourite color.
  • You can also install more themes from the extensions menu on the left bar. just search category:themes to install your favourite themes. (If you need to sort the themes by installs search category:themes @sort:installs)

Edit - for manually editing colors in terminal

VSCode team have removed customizing colors from user settings page. Currently using the themes is the only way to customize terminal colors in VSCode. For more information check out issue #6766

How to overload functions in javascript?

Overloading a function in JavaScript can be done in many ways. All of them involve a single master function that either performs all the processes, or delegates to sub-functions/processes.

One of the most common simple techniques involves a simple switch:

function foo(a, b) {
    switch (arguments.length) {
    case 0:
        //do basic code
        break;
    case 1:
        //do code with `a`
        break;
    case 2:
    default:
        //do code with `a` & `b`
        break;
    }
}

A more elegant technique would be to use an array (or object if you're not making overloads for every argument count):

fooArr = [
    function () {
    },
    function (a) {
    },
    function (a,b) {
    }
];
function foo(a, b) {
    return fooArr[arguments.length](a, b);
}

That previous example isn't very elegant, anyone could modify fooArr, and it would fail if someone passes in more than 2 arguments to foo, so a better form would be to use a module pattern and a few checks:

var foo = (function () {
    var fns;
    fns = [
        function () {
        },
        function (a) {
        },
        function (a, b) {
        }
    ];
    function foo(a, b) {
        var fnIndex;
        fnIndex = arguments.length;
        if (fnIndex > foo.length) {
            fnIndex = foo.length;
        }
        return fns[fnIndex].call(this, a, b);
    }
    return foo;
}());

Of course your overloads might want to use a dynamic number of parameters, so you could use an object for the fns collection.

var foo = (function () {
    var fns;
    fns = {};
    fns[0] = function () {
    };
    fns[1] = function (a) {
    };
    fns[2] = function (a, b) {
    };
    fns.params = function (a, b /*, params */) {
    };
    function foo(a, b) {
        var fnIndex;
        fnIndex = arguments.length;
        if (fnIndex > foo.length) {
            fnIndex = 'params';
        }
        return fns[fnIndex].apply(this, Array.prototype.slice.call(arguments));
    }
    return foo;
}());

My personal preference tends to be the switch, although it does bulk up the master function. A common example of where I'd use this technique would be a accessor/mutator method:

function Foo() {} //constructor
Foo.prototype = {
    bar: function (val) {
        switch (arguments.length) {
        case 0:
            return this._bar;
        case 1:
            this._bar = val;
            return this;
        }
    }
}

Echo off but messages are displayed

As Mike Nakis said, echo off only prevents the printing of commands, not results. To hide the result of a command add >nul to the end of the line, and to hide errors add 2>nul. For example:

Del /Q *.tmp >nul 2>nul

Like Krister Andersson said, the reason you get an error is your variable is expanding with spaces:

set INSTALL_PATH=C:\My App\Installer
if exist %INSTALL_PATH% (

Becomes:

if exist C:\My App\Installer (

Which means:

If "C:\My" exists, run "App\Installer" with "(" as the command line argument.

You see the error because you have no folder named "App". Put quotes around the path to prevent this splitting.

Difference between h:button and h:commandButton

This is taken from the book - The Complete Reference by Ed Burns & Chris Schalk

h:commandButton vs h:button

What’s the difference between h:commandButton|h:commandLink and h:button|h:link ?

The latter two components were introduced in 2.0 to enable bookmarkable JSF pages, when used in concert with the View Parameters feature.

There are 3 main differences between h:button|h:link and h:commandButton|h:commandLink.

First, h:button|h:link causes the browser to issue an HTTP GET request, while h:commandButton|h:commandLink does a form POST. This means that any components in the page that have values entered by the user, such as text fields, checkboxes, etc., will not automatically be submitted to the server when using h:button|h:link. To cause values to be submitted with h:button|h:link, extra action has to be taken, using the “View Parameters” feature.

The second main difference between the two kinds of components is that h:button|h:link has an outcome attribute to describe where to go next while h:commandButton|h:commandLink uses an action attribute for this purpose. This is because the former does not result in an ActionEvent in the event system, while the latter does.

Finally, and most important to the complete understanding of this feature, the h:button|h:link components cause the navigation system to be asked to derive the outcome during the rendering of the page, and the answer to this question is encoded in the markup of the page. In contrast, the h:commandButton|h:commandLink components cause the navigation system to be asked to derive the outcome on the POSTBACK from the page. This is a difference in timing. Rendering always happens before POSTBACK.

Removing Java 8 JDK from Mac

You just need to use these commands

sudo rm -rf /Library/Java/*
sudo rm -rf /Library/PreferencePanes/Java*
sudo rm -rf /Library/Internet\ Plug-Ins/Java*

Error message "unreported exception java.io.IOException; must be caught or declared to be thrown"

The error message means that any method that calls showfile() must either declare that it, in turn, throws IOException, or the call must be inside a try block that catches IOException. When you call showfile(), you do neither of these; for example, your filecontent constructor neither declares IOException nor contains a try block.

The intent is that some method, somewhere, should contain a try block, and catch and handle this exception. The compiler is trying to force you to handle the exception somewhere.

By the way, this code is (sorry to be so blunt) horrible. You don't close any of the files you open, the BufferedReader always points to the first file, even though you seem to be trying to make it point to another, the loops contain off-by-one errors that will cause various exceptions, etc. When you do get this to compile, it will not work as you expect. I think you need to slow down a little.

How to show all rows by default in JQuery DataTable

Use:

$('#example').dataTable({
    aLengthMenu: [
        [25, 50, 100, 200, -1],
        [25, 50, 100, 200, "All"]
    ],
    iDisplayLength: -1
});

Or if using 1.10+

$('#example').dataTable({
    paging: false
});

The option you should use is iDisplayLength:

$('#adminProducts').dataTable({
  'iDisplayLength': 100
});

$('#table').DataTable({
   "lengthMenu": [ [5, 10, 25, 50, -1], [5, 10, 25, 50, "All"] ]
});

It will Load by default all entries.

$('#example').dataTable({
    aLengthMenu: [
        [25, 50, 100, 200, -1],
        [25, 50, 100, 200, "All"]
    ],
    iDisplayLength: -1
});

Or if using 1.10+

$('#example').dataTable({
    paging: false
});

If you want to load by default 25 not all do this.

$('#example').dataTable({
    aLengthMenu: [
        [25, 50, 100, 200, -1],
        [25, 50, 100, 200, "All"]
    ],
});

What is the proper way to re-attach detached objects in Hibernate?

All of these answers miss an important distinction. update() is used to (re)attach your object graph to a Session. The objects you pass it are the ones that are made managed.

merge() is actually not a (re)attachment API. Notice merge() has a return value? That's because it returns you the managed graph, which may not be the graph you passed it. merge() is a JPA API and its behavior is governed by the JPA spec. If the object you pass in to merge() is already managed (already associated with the Session) then that's the graph Hibernate works with; the object passed in is the same object returned from merge(). If, however, the object you pass into merge() is detached, Hibernate creates a new object graph that is managed and it copies the state from your detached graph onto the new managed graph. Again, this is all dictated and governed by the JPA spec.

In terms of a generic strategy for "make sure this entity is managed, or make it managed", it kind of depends on if you want to account for not-yet-inserted data as well. Assuming you do, use something like

if ( session.contains( myEntity ) ) {
    // nothing to do... myEntity is already associated with the session
}
else {
    session.saveOrUpdate( myEntity );
}

Notice I used saveOrUpdate() rather than update(). If you do not want not-yet-inserted data handled here, use update() instead...

How do I create a dictionary with keys from a list and values defaulting to (say) zero?

d = dict.fromkeys(a, 0)

a is the list, 0 is the default value. Pay attention not to set the default value to some mutable object (i.e. list or dict), because it will be one object used as value for every key in the dictionary (check here for a solution for this case). Numbers/strings are safe.

importing jar libraries into android-studio

This is how you add jar files from external folders

1) Click on File and there you click on New and New Module

2) New Window appears ,,There you have to choose the Import .JAR/.AAR package .

.Net System.Mail.Message adding multiple "To" addresses

Thanks for spotting this I was about to add strings thinking the same as you that they'd get added to end of collection. It appears the params are:

msg.to.Add(<MailAddress>) adds MailAddress to the end of the collection
msg.to.Add(<string>) add a list of emails to the collection

Slightly different actions depending on param type, I think this is pretty bad form i'd have prefered split methods AddStringList of something.

Are there any log file about Windows Services Status?

Through the Computer management console, navigate through Event Viewer > Windows Logs > System. Every services that change state will be logged here.

You'll see info like: The XXXX service entered the running state or The XXXX service entered the stopped state, etc.

Make $JAVA_HOME easily changable in Ubuntu

After making changes to .profile, you need to execute the file, in order for the changes to take effect.

root@masternode# . ~/.profile

Once this is done, the echo command will work.

Converting a vector<int> to string

Maybe std::ostream_iterator and std::ostringstream:

#include <vector>
#include <string>
#include <algorithm>
#include <sstream>
#include <iterator>
#include <iostream>

int main()
{
  std::vector<int> vec;
  vec.push_back(1);
  vec.push_back(4);
  vec.push_back(7);
  vec.push_back(4);
  vec.push_back(9);
  vec.push_back(7);

  std::ostringstream oss;

  if (!vec.empty())
  {
    // Convert all but the last element to avoid a trailing ","
    std::copy(vec.begin(), vec.end()-1,
        std::ostream_iterator<int>(oss, ","));

    // Now add the last element with no delimiter
    oss << vec.back();
  }

  std::cout << oss.str() << std::endl;
}

Inherit CSS class

i think you can use more than one class in a tag

for example:

<div class="whatever base"></div>
<div class="whatever2 base"></div>

so when you want to chage all div's color you can just change the .base

...i dont know how to inherit in CSS

SSRS custom number format

Have you tried with the custom format "#,##0.##" ?

Fake "click" to activate an onclick method

If you're using JQuery you can do:

$('#elementid').click();

JavaScript click event listener on class

Yow can use querySelectorAll to select all the classes and loop through them to assign the eventListener. The if condition checks if it contains the class name.

const arrClass = document.querySelectorAll(".className");
for (let i of arrClass) {
  i.addEventListener("click", (e) => {
    if (e.target.classList.contains("className")) {
        console.log("Perfrom Action")
    }
  })
}

ScriptManager.RegisterStartupScript code not working - why?

Off the top of my head:

  • Use GetType() instead of typeof(Page) in order to bind the script to your actual page class instead of the base class,
  • Pass a key constant instead of Page.UniqueID, which is not that meaningful since it's supposed to be used by named controls,
  • End your Javascript statement with a semicolon,
  • Register the script during the PreRender phase:

protected void Page_PreRender(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
    ScriptManager.RegisterStartupScript(this, GetType(), "YourUniqueScriptKey",
        "alert('This pops up');", true);
}

Android Studio: Gradle - build fails -- Execution failed for task ':dexDebug'

I had two incompatible dependencies.

The below dependencies caused the error.

compile 'com.google.android.gms:play-services-fitness:8.3.0'
compile 'com.google.android.gms:play-services-wearable:8.4.0'

By changing the fitness dependency to version 8.4.0 I was able to run the app.

compile 'com.google.android.gms:play-services-fitness:8.4.0'
compile 'com.google.android.gms:play-services-wearable:8.4.0'

How to create id with AUTO_INCREMENT on Oracle?

SYS_GUID returns a GUID-- a globally unique ID. A SYS_GUID is a RAW(16). It does not generate an incrementing numeric value.

If you want to create an incrementing numeric key, you'll want to create a sequence.

CREATE SEQUENCE name_of_sequence
  START WITH 1
  INCREMENT BY 1
  CACHE 100;

You would then either use that sequence in your INSERT statement

INSERT INTO name_of_table( primary_key_column, <<other columns>> )
  VALUES( name_of_sequence.nextval, <<other values>> );

Or you can define a trigger that automatically populates the primary key value using the sequence

CREATE OR REPLACE TRIGGER trigger_name
  BEFORE INSERT ON table_name
  FOR EACH ROW
BEGIN
  SELECT name_of_sequence.nextval
    INTO :new.primary_key_column
    FROM dual;
END;

If you are using Oracle 11.1 or later, you can simplify the trigger a bit

CREATE OR REPLACE TRIGGER trigger_name
  BEFORE INSERT ON table_name
  FOR EACH ROW
BEGIN
  :new.primary_key_column := name_of_sequence.nextval;
END;

If you really want to use SYS_GUID

CREATE TABLE table_name (
  primary_key_column raw(16) default sys_guid() primary key,
  <<other columns>>
)

Mutex example / tutorial?

I stumbled upon this post recently and think that it needs an updated solution for the standard library's c++11 mutex (namely std::mutex).

I've pasted some code below (my first steps with a mutex - I learned concurrency on win32 with HANDLE, SetEvent, WaitForMultipleObjects etc).

Since it's my first attempt with std::mutex and friends, I'd love to see comments, suggestions and improvements!

#include <condition_variable>
#include <mutex>
#include <algorithm>
#include <thread>
#include <queue>
#include <chrono>
#include <iostream>

int _tmain(int argc, _TCHAR* argv[])
{
    // these vars are shared among the following threads
    std::queue<unsigned int>    nNumbers;

    std::mutex                  mtxQueue;
    std::condition_variable     cvQueue;
    bool                        m_bQueueLocked = false;

    std::mutex                  mtxQuit;
    std::condition_variable     cvQuit;
    bool                        m_bQuit = false;

    std::thread thrQuit(
        [&]()
        {
            using namespace std;

            this_thread::sleep_for(chrono::seconds(5));

            // set event by setting the bool variable to true
            // then notifying via the condition variable
            m_bQuit = true;
            cvQuit.notify_all();
        }
    );

    std::thread thrProducer(
        [&]()
        {
            using namespace std;

            int nNum = 13;
            unique_lock<mutex> lock( mtxQuit );

How to generate serial version UID in Intellij

Without any plugins:

You just need to enable highlight: (Idea v.2016, 2017 and 2018, previous versions may have same or similar settings)

File -> Settings -> Editor -> Inspections -> Java -> Serialization issues -> Serializable class without 'serialVersionUID' - set flag and click 'OK'. (For Macs, Settings is under IntelliJ IDEA -> Preferences...)

Now, if your class implements Serializable, you will see highlight and alt+Enter on class name will ask you to generate private static final long serialVersionUID.

UPD: a faster way to find this setting - you might use hotkey Ctrl+Shift+A (find action), type Serializable class without 'serialVersionUID' - the first is the one.

Jquery resizing image

$(document).ready(function(){
    $('img').each(function(){
        var maxWidth = 660;
        var ratio = 0;
        var img = $(this);

        if(img.width() > maxWidth){
            ratio = img.height() / img.width();
            img.attr('width', maxWidth);
            img.attr('height', (maxWidth*ratio));
        }
    });
});

that will do the magic trick for everyone using latest jquery. Be sure you set your selector right (I used $('img') but that can be different in your case). This only works for landscape mode. But if you look at it, only a few things have to be done to set it to portrait, aka, if img.height() > maxHeight) stuff

java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: HttpServletRequest

Your web app has servlet container specific libraries like servlet-api.jar file in its /WEB-INF/lib. This is not right. Remove them all. The /WEB-INF/lib should contain only the libraries specific to the Web app, not to the servlet container. The servlet container (like Tomcat) is the one who should already provide the servlet container specific libraries. If you supply libraries from an arbitrary servlet container of a different make/version, you'll run into this kind of problems, as your web app wouldn't be able to run on a servlet container of a different make/version than those libraries originated from.

This is a pretty common starter's mistake when they encounter compile-time errors, as they haven't set up their IDE project right. See also How do I import the javax.servlet API in my Eclipse project?

Why does a base64 encoded string have an = sign at the end

= is a padding character. If the input stream has length that is not a multiple of 3, the padding character will be added. This is required by decoder: if no padding present, the last byte would have an incorrect number of zero bits.

Better and deeper explanation here: https://base64tool.com/detect-whether-provided-string-is-base64-or-not/

Compiling an application for use in highly radioactive environments

Since you specifically ask for software solutions, and you are using C++, why not use operator overloading to make your own, safe datatypes? For example:

Instead of using uint32_t (and double, int64_t etc), make your own SAFE_uint32_t which contains a multiple (minimum of 3) of uint32_t. Overload all of the operations you want (* + - / << >> = == != etc) to perform, and make the overloaded operations perform independently on each internal value, ie don't do it once and copy the result. Both before and after, check that all of the internal values match. If values don't match, you can update the wrong one to the value with the most common one. If there is no most-common value, you can safely notify that there is an error.

This way it doesn't matter if corruption occurs in the ALU, registers, RAM, or on a bus, you will still have multiple attempts and a very good chance of catching errors. Note however though that this only works for the variables you can replace - your stack pointer for example will still be susceptible.

A side story: I ran into a similar issue, also on an old ARM chip. It turned out to be a toolchain which used an old version of GCC that, together with the specific chip we used, triggered a bug in certain edge cases that would (sometimes) corrupt values being passed into functions. Make sure your device doesn't have any problems before blaming it on radio-activity, and yes, sometimes it is a compiler bug =)

twitter bootstrap 3.0 typeahead ajax example

With bootstrap3-typeahead, I made it to work with the following code:

<input id="typeahead-input" type="text" data-provide="typeahead" />

<script type="text/javascript">
jQuery(document).ready(function() {
    $('#typeahead-input').typeahead({
        source: function (query, process) {
            return $.get('search?q=' + query, function (data) {
                return process(data.search_results);
            });
        }
    });
})
</script>

The backend provides search service under the search GET endpoint, receiving the query in the q parameter, and returns a JSON in the format { 'search_results': ['resultA', 'resultB', ... ] }. The elements of the search_resultsarray are displayed in the typeahead input.

How to add a second x-axis in matplotlib

You can use twiny to create 2 x-axis scales. For Example:

import numpy as np
import matplotlib.pyplot as plt

fig = plt.figure()
ax1 = fig.add_subplot(111)
ax2 = ax1.twiny()

a = np.cos(2*np.pi*np.linspace(0, 1, 60.))

ax1.plot(range(60), a)
ax2.plot(range(100), np.ones(100)) # Create a dummy plot
ax2.cla()
plt.show()

what is the difference between $_SERVER['REQUEST_URI'] and $_GET['q']?

Given this example url:

http://www.example.com/some-dir/yourpage.php?q=bogus&n=10

$_SERVER['REQUEST_URI'] will give you:

/some-dir/yourpage.php?q=bogus&n=10

Whereas $_GET['q'] will give you:

bogus

In other words, $_SERVER['REQUEST_URI'] will hold the full request path including the querystring. And $_GET['q'] will give you the value of parameter q in the querystring.
