Detecting IE11 using CSS Capability/Feature Detection

You should use Modernizr, it will add a class to the body tag.

also:

function getIeVersion()
{
  var rv = -1;
  if (navigator.appName == 'Microsoft Internet Explorer')
  {
    var ua = navigator.userAgent;
    var re  = new RegExp("MSIE ([0-9]{1,}[\.0-9]{0,})");
    if (re.exec(ua) != null)
      rv = parseFloat( RegExp.$1 );
  }
  else if (navigator.appName == 'Netscape')
  {
    var ua = navigator.userAgent;
    var re  = new RegExp("Trident/.*rv:([0-9]{1,}[\.0-9]{0,})");
    if (re.exec(ua) != null)
      rv = parseFloat( RegExp.$1 );
  }
  return rv;
}

Note that IE11 is still is in preview, and the user agent may change before release.

The User-agent string for IE 11 is currently this one :

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.3; Trident/7.0; rv 11.0) like Gecko

Which means your can simply test, for versions 11.xx,

var isIE11 = !!navigator.userAgent.match(/Trident.*rv 11\./)

How to split data into training/testing sets using sample function

Assuming df is your data frame, and that you want to create 75% train and 25% test

all <- 1:nrow(df)
train_i <- sort(sample(all, round(nrow(df)*0.75,digits = 0),replace=FALSE))
test_i <- all[-train_i]

Then to create a train and test data frames

df_train <- df[train_i,]
df_test <- df[test_i,]

Android sample bluetooth code to send a simple string via bluetooth

What is the best regular expression to check if a string is a valid URL?

After rigorous searching i finally settled with the following

^[a-zA-Z0-9]+\:\/\/[a-zA-Z0-9]+\.[-a-zA-Z0-9]+\.?[a-zA-Z0-9]+$|^[a-zA-Z0-9]+\.[-a-zA-Z0-9]+\.[a-zA-Z0-9]+$

And this thing work for general in future URLs.

What is an efficient way to implement a singleton pattern in Java?

If you do not need lazy loading then simply try:

public class Singleton {
    private final static Singleton INSTANCE = new Singleton();

    private Singleton() {}

    public static Singleton getInstance() { return Singleton.INSTANCE; }

    protected Object clone() {
        throw new CloneNotSupportedException();
    }
}

If you want lazy loading and you want your singleton to be thread-safe, try the double-checking pattern:

public class Singleton {
    private static Singleton instance = null;

    private Singleton() {}

    public static Singleton getInstance() {
        if(null == instance) {
            synchronized(Singleton.class) {
                if(null == instance) {
                    instance = new Singleton();
                }
            }
        }
        return instance;
    }

    protected Object clone() {
        throw new CloneNotSupportedException();
    }
}

As the double checking pattern is not guaranteed to work (due to some issue with compilers, I don't know anything more about that), you could also try to synchronize the whole getInstance-method or create a registry for all your singletons.

Compiling dynamic HTML strings from database

Try this below code for binding html through attr

.directive('dynamic', function ($compile) {
    return {
      restrict: 'A',
      replace: true,
      scope: { dynamic: '=dynamic'},
      link: function postLink(scope, element, attrs) {
        scope.$watch( 'attrs.dynamic' , function(html){
          element.html(scope.dynamic);
          $compile(element.contents())(scope);
        });
      }
    };
  });

Try this element.html(scope.dynamic); than element.html(attr.dynamic);

Large Numbers in Java

You can use the BigInteger class for integers and BigDecimal for numbers with decimal digits. Both classes are defined in java.math package.

Example:

BigInteger reallyBig = new BigInteger("1234567890123456890");
BigInteger notSoBig = new BigInteger("2743561234");
reallyBig = reallyBig.add(notSoBig);

tap gesture recognizer - which object was tapped?

Its been a year asking this question but still for someone.

While declaring the UITapGestureRecognizer on a particular view assign the tag as

UITapGestureRecognizer *tapRecognizer = [[UITapGestureRecognizer alloc] initWithTarget:self action:@selector(gestureHandlerMethod:)];
[yourGestureEnableView addGestureRecognizer:tapRecognizer];
yourGestureEnableView.tag=2;

and in your handler do like this

-(void)gestureHandlerMethod:(UITapGestureRecognizer*)sender {
    if(sender.view.tag == 2) {
        // do something here
    }
}

Why doesn't Java support unsigned ints?

This is an older question and pat did briefly mention char, I just thought I should expand upon this for others who will look at this down the road. Let's take a closer look at the Java primitive types:

byte - 8-bit signed integer

short - 16-bit signed integer

int - 32-bit signed integer

long - 64-bit signed integer

char - 16-bit character (unsigned integer)

Although char does not support unsigned arithmetic, it essentially can be treated as an unsigned integer. You would have to explicitly cast arithmetic operations back into char, but it does provide you with a way to specify unsigned numbers.

char a = 0;
char b = 6;
a += 1;
a = (char) (a * b);
a = (char) (a + b);
a = (char) (a - 16);
b = (char) (b % 3);
b = (char) (b / a);
//a = -1; // Generates complier error, must be cast to char
System.out.println(a); // Prints ?
System.out.println((int) a); // Prints 65532
System.out.println((short) a); // Prints -4
short c = -4;
System.out.println((int) c); // Prints -4, notice the difference with char
a *= 2;
a -= 6;
a /= 3;
a %= 7;
a++;
a--;

Yes, there isn't direct support for unsigned integers (obviously, I wouldn't have to cast most of my operations back into char if there was direct support). However, there certainly exists an unsigned primitive data type. I would liked to have seen an unsigned byte as well, but I guess doubling the memory cost and instead use char is a viable option.

Edit

With JDK8 there are new APIs for Long and Integer which provide helper methods when treating long and int values as unsigned values.

  • compareUnsigned
  • divideUnsigned
  • parseUnsignedInt
  • parseUnsignedLong
  • remainderUnsigned
  • toUnsignedLong
  • toUnsignedString

Additionally, Guava provides a number of helper methods to do similar things for at the integer types which helps close the gap left by the lack of native support for unsigned integers.

Heatmap in matplotlib with pcolor?

The python seaborn module is based on matplotlib, and produces a very nice heatmap.

Below is an implementation with seaborn, designed for the ipython/jupyter notebook.

import pandas as pd
import matplotlib.pyplot as plt
import seaborn as sns
%matplotlib inline
# import the data directly into a pandas dataframe
nba = pd.read_csv("http://datasets.flowingdata.com/ppg2008.csv", index_col='Name  ')
# remove index title
nba.index.name = ""
# normalize data columns
nba_norm = (nba - nba.mean()) / (nba.max() - nba.min())
# relabel columns
labels = ['Games', 'Minutes', 'Points', 'Field goals made', 'Field goal attempts', 'Field goal percentage', 'Free throws made',
          'Free throws attempts', 'Free throws percentage','Three-pointers made', 'Three-point attempt', 'Three-point percentage',
          'Offensive rebounds', 'Defensive rebounds', 'Total rebounds', 'Assists', 'Steals', 'Blocks', 'Turnover', 'Personal foul']
nba_norm.columns = labels
# set appropriate font and dpi
sns.set(font_scale=1.2)
sns.set_style({"savefig.dpi": 100})
# plot it out
ax = sns.heatmap(nba_norm, cmap=plt.cm.Blues, linewidths=.1)
# set the x-axis labels on the top
ax.xaxis.tick_top()
# rotate the x-axis labels
plt.xticks(rotation=90)
# get figure (usually obtained via "fig,ax=plt.subplots()" with matplotlib)
fig = ax.get_figure()
# specify dimensions and save
fig.set_size_inches(15, 20)
fig.savefig("nba.png")

The output looks like this: seaborn nba heatmap I used the matplotlib Blues color map, but personally find the default colors quite beautiful. I used matplotlib to rotate the x-axis labels, as I couldn't find the seaborn syntax. As noted by grexor, it was necessary to specify the dimensions (fig.set_size_inches) by trial and error, which I found a bit frustrating.

As noted by Paul H, you can easily add the values to heat maps (annot=True), but in this case I didn't think it improved the figure. Several code snippets were taken from the excellent answer by joelotz.

Rendering HTML in a WebView with custom CSS

How can I make the cursor turn to the wait cursor?

It is easier to use UseWaitCursor at the Form or Window level. A typical use case can look like below:

    private void button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
    {

        try
        {
            this.Enabled = false;//optional, better target a panel or specific controls
            this.UseWaitCursor = true;//from the Form/Window instance
            Application.DoEvents();//messages pumped to update controls
            //execute a lengthy blocking operation here,
            //bla bla ....
        }
        finally

            this.Enabled = true;//optional
            this.UseWaitCursor = false;

For a better UI experience you should use Asynchrony from a different thread.

How can I undo git reset --hard HEAD~1?

My problem is almost similar. I have uncommitted files before I enter git reset --hard.

Thankfully. I managed to skip all these resources. After I noticed that I can just undo (ctrl-z). I just want to add this to all of the answers above.

Note. Its not possible to ctrl-z unopened files.

How to make google spreadsheet refresh itself every 1 minute?

GOOGLEFINANCE can have a 20 minutes delay, so refreshing every minute would not really help.

Instead of GOOGLEFINANCE you can use different source. I'm using this RealTime stock prices(I tried a couple but this is the easiest by-far to implement. They have API that retuen JSON { Name: CurrentPrice }

Here's a little script you can use in Google Sheets(Tools->Script Editor)

function GetStocksPrice() {
   var url = 'https://financialmodelingprep.com/api/v3/stock/real-time-
   price/AVP,BAC,CHK,CY,GE,GPRO,HIMX,IMGN,MFG,NIO,NMR,SSSS,UCTT,UMC,ZNGA';
   var response = UrlFetchApp.fetch(url);

   // convert json string to json object
   var jsonSignal = JSON.parse(response);

  // define an array of all the object keys
  var headerRow = Object.keys(jsonSignal);
  // define an array of all the object values
  var values = headerRow.map(function(key){ return jsonSignal[key]});
  var data = values[0];

  // get sheet by ID -
  // you can get the sheet unqiue ID from the your current sheet url
  var jsonSheet = SpreadsheetApp.openById("Your Sheet UniqueID");
  //var name = jsonSheet.getName();

  var sheet = jsonSheet.getSheetByName('Sheet1');

  // the column to put the data in -> Y
  var letter = "F";

  // start from line
  var index = 4;
  data.forEach(function( row, index2 ) {

     var keys = Object.keys(row);
     var value2 = row[keys[1]];

     // set value loction
     var cellXY = letter +  index;
     sheet.getRange(cellXY).setValue(value2);

     index = index + 1;
 });
}

Now you need to add a trigger that will execute every minute.

  1. Go to Project Triggers -> click on the Watch icon next to the Save icon
  2. Add Trigger
  3. In -> Choose which function to run -> GetStocksPrice
  4. In -> Select event source -> Time-driven
  5. In -> Select type of time based trigger -> Minutes timer
  6. In -> Select minute interval -> Every minute

And your set :)

How to import an Excel file into SQL Server?

There are many articles about writing code to import an excel file, but this is a manual/shortcut version:

If you don't need to import your Excel file programmatically using code you can do it very quickly using the menu in SQL Management Studio.

The quickest way to get your Excel file into SQL is by using the import wizard:

  1. Open SSMS (Sql Server Management Studio) and connect to the database where you want to import your file into.
  2. Import Data: in SSMS in Object Explorer under 'Databases' right-click the destination database, select Tasks, Import Data. An import wizard will pop up (you can usually just click 'Next' on the first screen).

enter image description here

  1. The next window is 'Choose a Data Source', select Excel:

    • In the 'Data Source' dropdown list select Microsoft Excel (this option should appear automatically if you have excel installed).

    • Click the 'Browse' button to select the path to the Excel file you want to import.

    • Select the version of the excel file (97-2003 is usually fine for files with a .XLS extension, or use 2007 for newer files with a .XLSX extension)
    • Tick the 'First Row has headers' checkbox if your excel file contains headers.
    • Click next.

enter image description here

  1. On the 'Choose a Destination' screen, select destination database:
    • Select the 'Server name', Authentication (typically your sql username & password) and select a Database as destination. Click Next.

enter image description here

  1. On the 'Specify Table Copy or Query' window:

    • For simplicity just select 'Copy data from one or more tables or views', click Next.
  2. 'Select Source Tables:' choose the worksheet(s) from your Excel file and specify a destination table for each worksheet. If you don't have a table yet the wizard will very kindly create a new table that matches all the columns from your spreadsheet. Click Next.

enter image description here

  1. Click Finish.

What is the difference between Linear search and Binary search?

A linear search looks down a list, one item at a time, without jumping. In complexity terms this is an O(n) search - the time taken to search the list gets bigger at the same rate as the list does.

A binary search is when you start with the middle of a sorted list, and see whether that's greater than or less than the value you're looking for, which determines whether the value is in the first or second half of the list. Jump to the half way through the sublist, and compare again etc. This is pretty much how humans typically look up a word in a dictionary (although we use better heuristics, obviously - if you're looking for "cat" you don't start off at "M"). In complexity terms this is an O(log n) search - the number of search operations grows more slowly than the list does, because you're halving the "search space" with each operation.

How to calculate the running time of my program?

Beside the well-known (and already mentioned) System.currentTimeMillis() and System.nanoTime() there is also a neat library called perf4j which might be useful too, depending on your purpose of course.

Byte and char conversion in Java

new String(byteArray, Charset.defaultCharset())

This will convert a byte array to the default charset in java. It may throw exceptions depending on what you supply with the byteArray.

Bitwise operation and usage

There may be a better way to find where an array element is between two values, but as this example shows, the & works here, whereas and does not.

import numpy as np
a=np.array([1.2, 2.3, 3.4])
np.where((a>2) and (a<3))
#Result: Value Error
np.where((a>2) & (a<3))
#Result: (array([1]),)

GetFiles with multiple extensions

I know there is a more elegant way to do this and I'm open to suggestions... this is what I did:

          try
            {

             // Set directory for list to be made of
                DirectoryInfo jpegInfo = new DirectoryInfo(destinationFolder);

                DirectoryInfo gifInfo = new DirectoryInfo(destinationFolder);
                DirectoryInfo tiffInfo = new DirectoryInfo(destinationFolder);
                DirectoryInfo bmpInfo = new DirectoryInfo(destinationFolder);

                // Set file type
                FileInfo[] Jpegs = jpegInfo.GetFiles("*.jpeg");
                FileInfo[] Jpgs = jpegInfo.GetFiles("*.jpg");
                FileInfo[] Gifs = gifInfo.GetFiles("*.gif");
                FileInfo[] Tiffs = gifInfo.GetFiles("*.tiff");
                FileInfo[] Bmps = gifInfo.GetFiles("*.bmp");

Convert integer value to matching Java Enum

You could add a static method in your enum that accepts an int as a parameter and returns a PcapLinkType.

public static PcapLinkType of(int linkType) {

    switch (linkType) {
        case -1: return DLT_UNKNOWN
        case 0: return DLT_NULL;

        //ETC....

        default: return null;

    }
}

Change the mouse pointer using JavaScript

Look at this page: http://www.webcodingtech.com/javascript/change-cursor.php. Looks like you can access cursor off of style. This page shows it being done with the entire page, but I'm sure a child element would work just as well.

document.body.style.cursor = 'wait';

Accessing Redux state in an action creator?

Presenting an alternative way of solving this. This may be better or worse than Dan's solution, depending on your application.

You can get the state from the reducers into the actions by splitting the action in 2 separate functions: first ask for the data, second act on the data. You can do that by using redux-loop.

First 'kindly ask for the data'

export const SOME_ACTION = 'SOME_ACTION';
export function someAction() {
    return {
        type: SOME_ACTION,
    }
}

In the reducer, intercept the ask and provide the data to the second stage action by using redux-loop.

import { loop, Cmd } from 'redux-loop';
const initialState = { data: '' }
export default (state=initialState, action) => {
    switch(action.type) {
        case SOME_ACTION: {
            return loop(state, Cmd.action(anotherAction(state.data))
        }
    }
}

With the data in hand, do whatever you initially wanted

export const ANOTHER_ACTION = 'ANOTHER_ACTION';
export function anotherAction(data) {
    return {
        type: ANOTHER_ACTION,
        payload: data,
    }
}

Hope this helps someone.

Python - converting a string of numbers into a list of int

Split on commas, then map to integers:

map(int, example_string.split(','))

Or use a list comprehension:

[int(s) for s in example_string.split(',')]

The latter works better if you want a list result, or you can wrap the map() call in list().

This works because int() tolerates whitespace:

>>> example_string = '0, 0, 0, 11, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 19, 0, 9, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 11'
>>> list(map(int, example_string.split(',')))  # Python 3, in Python 2 the list() call is redundant
[0, 0, 0, 11, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 19, 0, 9, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 11]
>>> [int(s) for s in example_string.split(',')]
[0, 0, 0, 11, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 19, 0, 9, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 11]

Splitting on just a comma also is more tolerant of variable input; it doesn't matter if 0, 1 or 10 spaces are used between values.

Is it possible to get the index you're sorting over in Underscore.js?

Index is actually available like;

_.sortBy([1, 4, 2, 66, 444, 9], function(num, index){  });

Styling a disabled input with css only

A space in a CSS selector selects child elements.

.btn input

This is basically what you wrote and it would select <input> elements within any element that has the btn class.

I think you're looking for

input[disabled].btn:hover, input[disabled].btn:active, input[disabled].btn:focus

This would select <input> elements with the disabled attribute and the btn class in the three different states of hover, active and focus.

How to create new folder?

You probably want os.makedirs as it will create intermediate directories as well, if needed.

import os

#dir is not keyword
def makemydir(whatever):
  try:
    os.makedirs(whatever)
  except OSError:
    pass
  # let exception propagate if we just can't
  # cd into the specified directory
  os.chdir(whatever)

PHP Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach()

You should check that what you are passing to foreach is an array by using the is_array function

If you are not sure it's going to be an array you can always check using the following PHP example code:

if (is_array($variable)) {

  foreach ($variable as $item) {
   //do something
  }
}

What is the difference between JAX-RS and JAX-WS?

Can JAX-RS do Asynchronous Request like JAX-WS?

1) I don't know if the JAX-RS API includes a specific mechanism for asynchronous requests, but this answer could still change based on the client implementation you use.

Can JAX-RS access a web service that is not running on the Java platform, and vice versa?

2) I can't think of any reason it wouldn't be able to.

What does it mean by "REST is particularly useful for limited-profile devices, such as PDAs and mobile phones"?

3) REST based architectures typically will use a lightweight data format, like JSON, to send data back and forth. This is in contrast to JAX-WS which uses XML. I don't see XML by itself so significantly heavier than JSON (which some people may argue), but with JAX-WS it's how much XML is used that ends up making REST with JSON the lighter option.

What does it mean by "JAX-RS do not require XML messages or WSDL service–API definitions?

4) As stated in 3, REST architectures often use JSON to send and receive data. JAX-WS uses XML. It's not that JSON is so significantly smaller than XML by itself. It's mostly that JAX-WS specification includes lots overhead in how it communicates.

On the point about WSDL and API definitions, REST will more frequently use the URI structure and HTTP commands to define the API rather than message types, as is done in the JAX-WS. This means that you don't need to publish a WSDL document so that other users of your service can know how to talk to your service. With REST you will still need to provide some documentation to other users about how the REST service is organized and what data and HTTP commands need to be sent.

In the build.gradle file, It was by default compile 'com.android.support:support-v4:+' so when you build the gradle projecit would consider, com.android.support:support-v4:21.0.0-rc1 because of the recent L developer preview release.

Make changes in the following line and it will resolve the issue. Change

compile 'com.android.support:support-v4:+'

to

compile 'com.android.support:support-v4:20.+'

Similarly when using v7-appcompat support library, make the change from

compile 'com.android.support:appcompat-v7:+'

to

compile 'com.android.support:appcompat-v7:20.+'.

How to select a radio button by default?

XHTML solution:

<input type="radio" name="imgsel" value="" checked="checked" />

Please note, that the actual value of checked attribute does not actually matter; it's just a convention to assign "checked". Most importantly, strings like "true" or "false" don't have any special meaning.

If you don't aim for XHTML conformance, you can simplify the code to:

<input type="radio" name="imgsel" value="" checked>

}

How do you generate dynamic (parameterized) unit tests in Python?

Using unittest (since 3.4)

Since Python 3.4, the standard library unittest package has the subTest context manager.

See the documentation:

Example:

from unittest import TestCase

param_list = [('a', 'a'), ('a', 'b'), ('b', 'b')]

class TestDemonstrateSubtest(TestCase):
    def test_works_as_expected(self):
        for p1, p2 in param_list:
            with self.subTest():
                self.assertEqual(p1, p2)

You can also specify a custom message and parameter values to subTest():

with self.subTest(msg="Checking if p1 equals p2", p1=p1, p2=p2):

Using nose

The nose testing framework supports this.

Example (the code below is the entire contents of the file containing the test):

param_list = [('a', 'a'), ('a', 'b'), ('b', 'b')]

def test_generator():
    for params in param_list:
        yield check_em, params[0], params[1]

def check_em(a, b):
    assert a == b

The output of the nosetests command:

> nosetests -v
testgen.test_generator('a', 'a') ... ok
testgen.test_generator('a', 'b') ... FAIL
testgen.test_generator('b', 'b') ... ok

MySQL Workbench Dark Theme

Here's how to change MySQL Workbench's colors (INCLUDING THE BACKGROUND COLOR).

Open the XML file called code_editor.xml located in the data folder of the MySQL Workbench's installation directory (usually C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Workbench 6.3 CE\data). Here you'll find a lot of styling for different code elements, but there are some missing.

MySQL Workbench uses scintilla as the code editor, and scintilla defines a few more styles that you can use in the code_editor.xml file. The one that is used for the background color is style id 32.

Here's the complete list for MySQL (scintilla has thousands of styles for many languages) with my configuration:

How to get list of all installed packages along with version in composer?

The behaviour of this command as been modified so you don't have to pass the -i option:

[10:19:05] coil@coil:~/workspace/api$ composer show -i
You are using the deprecated option "installed".
Only installed packages are shown by default now.
The --all option can be used to show all packages.

How to change the height of a <br>?

Sorry if someone else already said this, but the simple solution is to toy around with your "line-height". If you are getting too much space when you use a line break, it's simply because you have your line height set too high. You can correct this in CSS (but know it will affect everything that uses that property) or you can do an inline style to override the CSS.

How can I split a JavaScript string by white space or comma?

String.split() can also accept a regular expression:

input.split(/[ ,]+/);

This particular regex splits on a sequence of one or more commas or spaces, so that e.g. multiple consecutive spaces or a comma+space sequence do not produce empty elements in the results.

Why this "Implicit declaration of function 'X'"?

summation and your other functions are defined after they're used in main, and so the compiler has made a guess about it's signature; in other words, an implicit declaration has been assumed.

You should declare the function before it's used and get rid of the warning. In the C99 specification, this is an error.

Either move the function bodies before main, or include method signatures before main, e.g.:

#include <stdio.h>

int summation(int *, int *, int *);

int main()
{
    // ...

docker unauthorized: authentication required - upon push with successful login

OK! never mind; I found the solution. with 403 Suspected that the HTTP is not going to the right URL.

Change the file which has the login credentials stored the ~/.docker/config.json from the default generated of

{
        "auths": {
                "docker.io": {
                        "auth": "XXXXXXXXXXXXX",
                        "email": "[email protected]"
                }
        }
}

to - Note the change from docker.io -> index.docker.io/v1. That is the change.

{
        "auths": {
                "https://index.docker.io/v1/": {
                        "auth": "XXXXXXXXXXXXX",
                        "email": "[email protected]"
                }
        }
}

Hope that helps.

Note that the auth field should be 'username:password" base64 encoded. for example: "username:password" base64 encoded is "dXNlcm5hbWU6cGFzc3dvcmQ="

so your file would contain:

"auth": "dXNlcm5hbWU6cGFzc3dvcmQ="

That's how I do it, actually.

YAML equivalent of array of objects in JSON

TL;DR

You want this:

AAPL:
  - shares: -75.088
    date: 11/27/2015
  - shares: 75.088
    date: 11/26/2015

Mappings

The YAML equivalent of a JSON object is a mapping, which looks like these:

# flow style
{ foo: 1, bar: 2 }
# block style
foo: 1
bar: 2

Note that the first characters of the keys in a block mapping must be in the same column. To demonstrate:

# OK
   foo: 1
   bar: 2
# Parse error
   foo: 1
    bar: 2

Sequences

The equivalent of a JSON array in YAML is a sequence, which looks like either of these (which are equivalent):

# flow style
[ foo bar, baz ]
# block style
- foo bar
- baz

In a block sequence the -s must be in the same column.

JSON to YAML

Let's turn your JSON into YAML. Here's your JSON:

{"AAPL": [
  {
    "shares": -75.088,
    "date": "11/27/2015"
  },
  {
    "shares": 75.088,
    "date": "11/26/2015"
  },
]}

As a point of trivia, YAML is a superset of JSON, so the above is already valid YAML—but let's actually use YAML's features to make this prettier.

Starting from the inside out, we have objects that look like this:

{
  "shares": -75.088,
  "date": "11/27/2015"
}

The equivalent YAML mapping is:

shares: -75.088
date: 11/27/2015

We have two of these in an array (sequence):

- shares: -75.088
  date: 11/27/2015
- shares: 75.088
  date: 11/26/2015

Note how the -s line up and the first characters of the mapping keys line up.

Finally, this sequence is itself a value in a mapping with the key AAPL:

AAPL:
  - shares: -75.088
    date: 11/27/2015
  - shares: 75.088
    date: 11/26/2015

Parsing this and converting it back to JSON yields the expected result:

{
  "AAPL": [
    {
      "date": "11/27/2015",
      "shares": -75.088
    },
    {
      "date": "11/26/2015",
      "shares": 75.088
    }
  ]
}

What is the syntax meaning of RAISERROR()

It is the severity level of the error. The levels are from 11 - 20 which throw an error in SQL. The higher the level, the more severe the level and the transaction should be aborted.

You will get the syntax error when you do:

RAISERROR('Cannot Insert where salary > 1000').

Because you have not specified the correct parameters (severity level or state).

If you wish to issue a warning and not an exception, use levels 0 - 10.

From MSDN:

severity

Is the user-defined severity level associated with this message. When using msg_id to raise a user-defined message created using sp_addmessage, the severity specified on RAISERROR overrides the severity specified in sp_addmessage. Severity levels from 0 through 18 can be specified by any user. Severity levels from 19 through 25 can only be specified by members of the sysadmin fixed server role or users with ALTER TRACE permissions. For severity levels from 19 through 25, the WITH LOG option is required.

state

Is an integer from 0 through 255. Negative values or values larger than 255 generate an error. If the same user-defined error is raised at multiple locations, using a unique state number for each location can help find which section of code is raising the errors. For detailed description here

What should be the values of GOPATH and GOROOT?

You don't need to explicitly set GOROOT (Modern versions of Go can figure it out on their own based on the location of the go binary that you run).

Also, got the follow error when trying to work with vgo:

go: modules disabled inside GOPATH/src by GO111MODULE=auto; see 'go help modules'

Removing GOROOT, updating my GOPATH and export GO111MODULE="on" resolved the issue.

GOPATH see in here

GOPATH may be set to a colon-separated list of paths inside which Go code, package objects, and executables may be found.

Set a GOPATH to use goinstall to build and install your own code and external libraries outside of the Go tree (and to avoid writing Makefiles).

Java: How to convert List to Map

You can leverage the streams API of Java 8.

public class ListToMap {

  public static void main(String[] args) {
    List<User> items = Arrays.asList(new User("One"), new User("Two"), new User("Three"));

    Map<String, User> map = createHashMap(items);
    for(String key : map.keySet()) {
      System.out.println(key +" : "+map.get(key));
    }
  }

  public static Map<String, User> createHashMap(List<User> items) {
    Map<String, User> map = items.stream().collect(Collectors.toMap(User::getId, Function.identity()));
    return map;
  }
}

Bash loop ping successful

Here's my one-liner solution:

screen -S internet-check -d -m -- bash -c 'while ! ping -c 1 google.com; do echo -; done; echo Google responding to ping | mail -s internet-back [email protected]'

This runs an infinite ping in a new screen session until there is a response, at which point it sends an e-mail to [email protected]. Useful in the age of e-mail sent to phones.

(You might want to check that mail is configured correctly by just running echo test | mail -s test [email protected] first. Of course you can do whatever you want from done; onwards, sound a bell, start a web browser, use your imagination.)

How to convert a data frame column to numeric type?

If you don't care about preserving the factors, and want to apply it to any column that can get converted to numeric, I used the script below. if df is your original dataframe, you can use the script below.

df[] <- lapply(df, as.character)
df <- data.frame(lapply(df, function(x) ifelse(!is.na(as.numeric(x)), as.numeric(x),  x)))

I referenced Shane's and Joran's solution btw

How do I lowercase a string in Python?

Don't try this, totally un-recommend, don't do this:

import string
s='ABCD'
print(''.join([string.ascii_lowercase[string.ascii_uppercase.index(i)] for i in s]))

Output:

abcd

Since no one wrote it yet you can use swapcase (so uppercase letters will become lowercase, and vice versa) (and this one you should use in cases where i just mentioned (convert upper to lower, lower to upper)):

s='ABCD'
print(s.swapcase())

Output:

abcd

Using :before and :after CSS selector to insert Html

content doesn't support HTML, only text. You should probably use javascript, jQuery or something like that.

Another problem with your code is " inside a " block. You should mix ' and " (class='headingDetail').

If content did support HTML you could end up in an infinite loop where content is added inside content.

Making a cURL call in C#

Or in restSharp:

var client = new RestClient("https://example.com/?urlparam=true");
var request = new RestRequest(Method.POST);
request.AddHeader("content-type", "application/x-www-form-urlencoded");
request.AddHeader("cache-control", "no-cache");
request.AddHeader("header1", "headerval");
request.AddParameter("application/x-www-form-urlencoded", "bodykey=bodyval", ParameterType.RequestBody);
IRestResponse response = client.Execute(request);

How do I reference the input of an HTML <textarea> control in codebehind?

You are not using a .NET control for your text area. Either add runat="server" to the HTML TextArea control or use a .NET control:

Try this:

<asp:TextBox id="TextArea1" TextMode="multiline" Columns="50" Rows="5" runat="server" />

Then reference it in your codebehind:

message.Body = TextArea1.Text;

Mathematical functions in Swift

You can use them right inline:

var square = 9.4
var floored = floor(square)
var root = sqrt(floored)

println("Starting with \(square), we rounded down to \(floored), then took the square root to end up with \(root)")

Why does GitHub recommend HTTPS over SSH?

GitHub have changed their recommendation several times (example).

It appears that they currently recommend HTTPS because it is the easiest to set up on the widest range of networks and platforms, and by users who are new to all this.

There is no inherent flaw in SSH (if there was they would disable it) -- in the links below, you will see that they still provide details about SSH connections too:

  1. HTTPS is less likely to be blocked by a firewall.

    https://help.github.com/articles/which-remote-url-should-i-use/

    The https:// clone URLs are available on all repositories, public and private. These URLs work everywhere--even if you are behind a firewall or proxy.

  2. An HTTPS connection allows credential.helper to cache your password.

    https://help.github.com/articles/set-up-git

    Good to know: The credential helper only works when you clone an HTTPS repo URL. If you use the SSH repo URL instead, SSH keys are used for authentication. While we do not recommend it, if you wish to use this method, check out this guide for help generating and using an SSH key.

How can I represent a range in Java?

C multi-line macro: do/while(0) vs scope block

Andrey Tarasevich provides the following explanation:

  1. On Google Groups
  2. On bytes.com

[Minor changes to formatting made. Parenthetical annotations added in square brackets []].

The whole idea of using 'do/while' version is to make a macro which will expand into a regular statement, not into a compound statement. This is done in order to make the use of function-style macros uniform with the use of ordinary functions in all contexts.

Consider the following code sketch:

if (<condition>)
  foo(a);
else
  bar(a);

where foo and bar are ordinary functions. Now imagine that you'd like to replace function foo with a macro of the above nature [named CALL_FUNCS]:

if (<condition>)
  CALL_FUNCS(a);
else
  bar(a);

Now, if your macro is defined in accordance with the second approach (just { and }) the code will no longer compile, because the 'true' branch of if is now represented by a compound statement. And when you put a ; after this compound statement, you finished the whole if statement, thus orphaning the else branch (hence the compilation error).

One way to correct this problem is to remember not to put ; after macro "invocations":

if (<condition>)
  CALL_FUNCS(a)
else
  bar(a);

This will compile and work as expected, but this is not uniform. The more elegant solution is to make sure that macro expand into a regular statement, not into a compound one. One way to achieve that is to define the macro as follows:

#define CALL_FUNCS(x) \
do { \
  func1(x); \
  func2(x); \
  func3(x); \
} while (0)

Now this code:

if (<condition>)
  CALL_FUNCS(a);
else
  bar(a);

will compile without any problems.

However, note the small but important difference between my definition of CALL_FUNCS and the first version in your message. I didn't put a ; after } while (0). Putting a ; at the end of that definition would immediately defeat the entire point of using 'do/while' and make that macro pretty much equivalent to the compound-statement version.

I don't know why the author of the code you quoted in your original message put this ; after while (0). In this form both variants are equivalent. The whole idea behind using 'do/while' version is not to include this final ; into the macro (for the reasons that I explained above).

Where is the list of predefined Maven properties

I think the best place to look is the Super POM.

As an example, at the time of writing, the linked reference shows some of the properties between lines 32 - 48.

The interpretation of this is to follow the XPath as a . delimited property.

So, for example:

${project.build.testOutputDirectory} == ${project.build.directory}/test-classes

And:

${project.build.directory} == ${project.basedir}/target

Thus combining them, we find:

${project.build.testOutputDirectory} == ${project.basedir}/target/test-classes

Styling every 3rd item of a list using CSS?

You can use the :nth-child selector for that

li:nth-child(3n) {
 /* your rules here */
}

date() method, "A non well formed numeric value encountered" does not want to format a date passed in $_POST

From the documentation for strtotime():

Dates in the m/d/y or d-m-y formats are disambiguated by looking at the separator between the various components: if the separator is a slash (/), then the American m/d/y is assumed; whereas if the separator is a dash (-) or a dot (.), then the European d-m-y format is assumed.

In your date string, you have 12-16-2013. 16 isn't a valid month, and hence strtotime() returns false.

Since you can't use DateTime class, you could manually replace the - with / using str_replace() to convert the date string into a format that strtotime() understands:

$date = '2-16-2013';
echo date('Y-m-d', strtotime(str_replace('-','/', $date))); // => 2013-02-16

Getting scroll bar width using JavaScript

Here's an easy way using jQuery.

var scrollbarWidth = jQuery('div.withScrollBar').get(0).scrollWidth - jQuery('div.withScrollBar').width();

Basically we subtract the scrollable width from the overall width and that should provide the scrollbar's width. Of course, you'd want to cache the jQuery('div.withScrollBar') selection so you're not doing that part twice.

How to run TypeScript files from command line?

None of the other answers discuss how to run a TypeScript script that uses modules, and especially modern ES Modules.

First off, ts-node doesn't work in that scenario, as of March 2020. So we'll settle for tsc followed by node.

Second, TypeScript still can't output .mjs files. So we'll settle for .js files and "type": "module" in package.json.

Third, you want clean import lines, without specifying the .js extension (which would be confusing in .ts files):

import { Lib } from './Lib';

Well, that's non-trivial. Node requires specifying extensions on imports, unless you use the experimental-specifier-resolution=node flag. In this case, it would enable Node to look for Lib.js or Lib/index.js when you only specify ./Lib on the import line.

Fourth, there's still a snag: if you have a different main filename than index.js in your package, Node won't find it.

Transpiling makes things a lot messier than running vanilla Node.

Here's a sample repo with a modern TypeScript project structure, generating ES Module code.

Spring MVC - Why not able to use @RequestBody and @RequestParam together

It happens because of not very straight forward Servlet specification. If you are working with a native HttpServletRequest implementation you cannot get both the URL encode body and the parameters. Spring does some workarounds, which make it even more strange and nontransparent.

In such cases Spring (version 3.2.4) re-renders a body for you using data from the getParameterMap() method. It mixes GET and POST parameters and breaks the parameter order. The class, which is responsible for the chaos is ServletServerHttpRequest. Unfortunately it cannot be replaced, but the class StringHttpMessageConverter can be.

The clean solution is unfortunately not simple:

  1. Replacing StringHttpMessageConverter. Copy/Overwrite the original class adjusting method readInternal().
  2. Wrapping HttpServletRequest overwriting getInputStream(), getReader() and getParameter*() methods.

In the method StringHttpMessageConverter#readInternal following code must be used:

    if (inputMessage instanceof ServletServerHttpRequest) {
        ServletServerHttpRequest oo = (ServletServerHttpRequest)inputMessage;
        input = oo.getServletRequest().getInputStream();
    } else {
        input = inputMessage.getBody();
    }

Then the converter must be registered in the context.

<mvc:annotation-driven>
    <mvc:message-converters register-defaults="true/false">
        <bean class="my-new-converter-class"/>
   </mvc:message-converters>
</mvc:annotation-driven>

The step two is described here: Http Servlet request lose params from POST body after read it once

Select multiple columns in data.table by their numeric indices

It's a bit verbose, but i've gotten used to using the hidden .SD variable.

b<-data.table(a=1,b=2,c=3,d=4)
b[,.SD,.SDcols=c(1:2)]

It's a bit of a hassle, but you don't lose out on other data.table features (I don't think), so you should still be able to use other important functions like join tables etc.

Is there a way to "limit" the result with ELOQUENT ORM of Laravel?

We can use LIMIT like bellow:

Model::take(20)->get();

jQuery select all except first

Because of the way jQuery selectors are evaluated right-to-left, the quite readable li:not(:first) is slowed down by that evaluation.

An equally fast and easy to read solution is using the function version .not(":first"):

e.g.

$("li").not(":first").hide();

JSPerf: http://jsperf.com/fastest-way-to-select-all-expect-the-first-one/6

This is only few percentage points slower than slice(1), but is very readable as "I want all except the first one".

Running an Excel macro via Python?

I would expect the error is to do with the macro you're calling, try the following bit of code:

Code

import os, os.path
import win32com.client

if os.path.exists("excelsheet.xlsm"):
    xl=win32com.client.Dispatch("Excel.Application")
    xl.Workbooks.Open(os.path.abspath("excelsheet.xlsm"), ReadOnly=1)
    xl.Application.Run("excelsheet.xlsm!modulename.macroname")
## xl.Application.Save() # if you want to save then uncomment this line and change delete the ", ReadOnly=1" part from the open function.
    xl.Application.Quit() # Comment this out if your excel script closes
    del xl

JavaScript dictionary with names

An easier, native and more efficient way of emulating a dict in JavaScript than a hash table:

It also exploits that JavaScript is weakly typed. Rather type inference.

Here's how (an excerpt from Google Chrome's console):

var myDict = {};

myDict.one = 1;
1

myDict.two = 2;
2

if (myDict.hasOwnProperty('three'))
{
  console.log(myDict.two);
}
else
{
  console.log('Key does not exist!');
}
Key does not exist! VM361:8

if (myDict.hasOwnProperty('two'))
{
  console.log(myDict.two);
}
else
{
  console.log('Key does not exist!');
}
2 VM362:4

Object.keys(myDict);
["one", "two"]

delete(myDict.two);
true

myDict.hasOwnProperty('two');
false

myDict.two
undefined

myDict.one

How to enumerate an enum

This question appears in Chapter 10 of "C# Step by Step 2013"

The author uses a double for-loop to iterate through a pair of Enumerators (to create a full deck of cards):

class Pack
{
    public const int NumSuits = 4;
    public const int CardsPerSuit = 13;
    private PlayingCard[,] cardPack;

    public Pack()
    {
        this.cardPack = new PlayingCard[NumSuits, CardsPerSuit];
        for (Suit suit = Suit.Clubs; suit <= Suit.Spades; suit++)
        {
            for (Value value = Value.Two; value <= Value.Ace; value++)
            {
                cardPack[(int)suit, (int)value] = new PlayingCard(suit, value);
            }
        }
    }
}

In this case, Suit and Value are both enumerations:

enum Suit { Clubs, Diamonds, Hearts, Spades }
enum Value { Two, Three, Four, Five, Six, Seven, Eight, Nine, Ten, Jack, Queen, King, Ace}

and PlayingCard is a card object with a defined Suit and Value:

class PlayingCard
{
    private readonly Suit suit;
    private readonly Value value;

    public PlayingCard(Suit s, Value v)
    {
        this.suit = s;
        this.value = v;
    }
}

Why should I prefer to use member initialization lists?

Apart from the performance reasons mentioned above, if your class stores references to objects passed as constructor parameters or your class has const variables then you don't have any choice except using initializer lists.

PHP date yesterday

How easy :)

date("F j, Y", strtotime( '-1 days' ) );

Example:

echo date("Y-m-j H:i:s", strtotime( '-1 days' ) ); // 2018-07-18 07:02:43

Output:

2018-07-17 07:02:43

Display date/time in user's locale format and time offset

Don't know how to do locale, but javascript is a client side technology.

usersLocalTime = new Date();

will have the client's time and date in it (as reported by their browser, and by extension the computer they are sitting at). It should be trivial to include the server's time in the response and do some simple math to guess-timate offset.

What is the difference between == and equals() in Java?

Both == and .equals() refers to the same object if you don't override .equals().

Its your wish what you want to do once you override .equals(). You can compare the invoking object's state with the passed in object's state or you can just call super.equals()

Can't use modulus on doubles?

The % operator is for integers. You're looking for the fmod() function.

#include <cmath>

int main()
{
    double x = 6.3;
    double y = 2.0;
    double z = std::fmod(x,y);

}

Exception from HRESULT: 0x800A03EC Error

I was getting the same error but it's sorted now. In my case, I had columns with the heading "Key1", "Key2", and "Key3". I have changed the column names to something else and it's sorted.

It seems that these are reserved keywords.

Can't concat bytes to str

subprocess.check_output() returns a bytestring.

In Python 3, there's no implicit conversion between unicode (str) objects and bytes objects. If you know the encoding of the output, you can .decode() it to get a string, or you can turn the \n you want to add to bytes with "\n".encode('ascii')

SQL Server - Convert date field to UTC

We can convert ServerZone DateTime to UTC and UTC to ServerZone DateTime

Simply run the following scripts to understand the conversion then modify as what you need

--Get Server's TimeZone
DECLARE @ServerTimeZone VARCHAR(50)
EXEC MASTER.dbo.xp_regread 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE',
'SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\TimeZoneInformation',
'TimeZoneKeyName',@ServerTimeZone OUT

-- ServerZone to UTC DATETIME
DECLARE @CurrentServerZoneDateTime DATETIME = GETDATE()
DECLARE @UTCDateTime DATETIME = @CurrentServerZoneDateTime AT TIME ZONE @ServerTimeZone AT TIME ZONE 'UTC'
--(OR)
--DECLARE @UTCDateTime  DATETIME = GETUTCDATE()
SELECT @CurrentServerZoneDateTime AS CURRENTZONEDATE,@UTCDateTime AS UTCDATE

-- UTC to ServerZone DATETIME
SET @CurrentServerZoneDateTime = @UTCDateTime AT TIME ZONE 'UTC' AT TIME ZONE @ServerTimeZone
SELECT @UTCDateTime AS UTCDATE,@CurrentServerZoneDateTime AS CURRENTZONEDATE

Note: This(AT TIME ZONE) working on only SQL Server 2016+ and this advantage is automatically considering Daylight while converting to particular Time zone

jQuery: selecting each td in a tr

$('#tblNewAttendees tbody tr).each((index, tr)=> {
        //console.log(tr);
        $(tr).children('td').each ((index, td) => {
            console.log(td);

        });

    });

You can use this tr and td parameter also.

MassAssignmentException in Laravel

This is not a good way when you want to seeding database.
Use faker instead of hard coding, and before all this maybe it's better to truncate tables.

Consider this example :

    // Truncate table.
    DB::table('users')->truncate();

    // Create an instance of faker.
    $faker = Faker::create();

    // define an array for fake data.
    $users = [];

    // Make an array of 500 users with faker.
    foreach (range(1, 500) as $index)
    {
        $users[] = [
            'group_id' => rand(1, 3),
            'name' => $faker->name,
            'company' => $faker->company,
            'email' => $faker->email,
            'phone' => $faker->phoneNumber,
            'address' => "{$faker->streetName} {$faker->postCode} {$faker->city}",
            'about' => $faker->sentence($nbWords = 20, $variableNbWords = true),
            'created_at' => new DateTime,
            'updated_at' => new DateTime,
        ];
    }

    // Insert into database.
    DB::table('users')->insert($users);

The entity name must immediately follow the '&' in the entity reference

If you use XHTML, for some reason, note that XHTML 1.0 C 4 says: “Use external scripts if your script uses < or & or ]]> or --.” That is, don’t embed script code inside a script element but put it into a separate JavaScript file and refer to it with <script src="foo.js"></script>.

Spring Data JPA findOne() change to Optional how to use this?

I always write a default method "findByIdOrError" in widely used CrudRepository repos/interfaces.

@Repository
public interface RequestRepository extends CrudRepository<Request, Integer> {

    default Request findByIdOrError(Integer id) {
        return findById(id).orElseThrow(EntityNotFoundException::new);
    }
}

A fast way to delete all rows of a datatable at once

Here we have same question. You can use the following code:

SqlConnection con = new SqlConnection();
con.ConnectionString = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["yourconnectionstringnamehere"].ConnectionString;
con.Open();
SqlCommand com = new SqlCommand();
com.Connection = con;
com.CommandText = "DELETE FROM [tablenamehere]";
SqlDataReader data = com.ExecuteReader();
con.Close();

But before you need to import following code to your project:

using System.Configuration;
using System.Data.SqlClient;

This is the specific part of the code that can delete all rows is a table:

DELETE FROM [tablenamehere]

This must be your table name:tablenamehere - This can delete all rows in table: DELETE FROM

List all files in one directory PHP

Check this out : readdir()

This bit of code should list all entries in a certain directory:

    closedir($handle);
}

How to reverse MD5 to get the original string?

Its not possible thats the whole point of hashing. You can however bruteforce by going through all possibilities (using all possible digits characters in every possible order) and hashing them and checking for a collision.

for more information on hashing and MD5 etc see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MD5 , http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hash_function , http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cryptographic_hash_function and http://onin.com/hhh/hhhexpl.html

I myself created my own app to do this, its open source you can check the link: http://sourceforge.net/projects/jpassrecovery/ and of course the source. Here is the source for easy access it has a basic implementation in the comments:

Good ways to sort a queryset? - Django

What about

import operator

auths = Author.objects.order_by('-score')[:30]
ordered = sorted(auths, key=operator.attrgetter('last_name'))

In Django 1.4 and newer you can order by providing multiple fields.
Reference: https://docs.djangoproject.com/en/dev/ref/models/querysets/#order-by

order_by(*fields)

By default, results returned by a QuerySet are ordered by the ordering tuple given by the ordering option in the model’s Meta. You can override this on a per-QuerySet basis by using the order_by method.

Example:

ordered_authors = Author.objects.order_by('-score', 'last_name')[:30]

The result above will be ordered by score descending, then by last_name ascending. The negative sign in front of "-score" indicates descending order. Ascending order is implied.

TypeError: $ is not a function when calling jQuery function

Double check your jQuery references. It is possible that you are either referencing it more than once or you are calling your function too early (before jQuery is defined). You can try as mentioned in my comments and put any jQuery reference at the top of your file (in the head) and see if that helps.

If you use the encapsulation of jQuery it shouldn't help in this case. Please try it because I think it is prettier and more obvious, but if jQuery is not defined you will get the same errors.

In the end... jQuery is not currently defined.

How can I prevent the TypeError: list indices must be integers, not tuple when copying a python list to a numpy array?

You probably do not need to be making lists and appending them to make your array. You can likely just do it all at once, which is faster since you can use numpy to do your loops instead of doing them yourself in pure python.

To answer your question, as others have said, you cannot access a nested list with two indices like you did. You can if you convert mean_data to an array before not after you try to slice it:

R = np.array(mean_data)[:,0]

instead of

R = np.array(mean_data[:,0])

But, assuming mean_data has a shape nx3, instead of

R = np.array(mean_data)[:,0]
P = np.array(mean_data)[:,1]
Z = np.array(mean_data)[:,2]

You can simply do

A = np.array(mean_data).mean(axis=0)

which averages over the 0th axis and returns a length-n array

But to my original point, I will make up some data to try to illustrate how you can do this without building any lists one item at a time:

Does .NET provide an easy way convert bytes to KB, MB, GB, etc.?

No.

But you can implement like this;

    static double ConvertBytesToMegabytes(long bytes)
    {
    return (bytes / 1024f) / 1024f;
    }

    static double ConvertKilobytesToMegabytes(long kilobytes)
    {
    return kilobytes / 1024f;
    }

How about something like that? (Uses no abs() nor mulitiplication)
Notes:

  • the abs() function is only used for the optimization trick. This snippet can either be removed or recoded.
  • the logic is less efficient since we're testing the sign of a and b with each iteration (price to pay to avoid both abs() and multiplication operator)

def multiply_by_addition(a, b):
""" School exercise: multiplies integers a and b, by successive additions.

PHP - Modify current object in foreach loop

There are 2 ways of doing this

foreach($questions as $key => $question){
    $questions[$key]['answers'] = $answers_model->get_answers_by_question_id($question['question_id']);
}

This way you save the key, so you can update it again in the main $questions variable

or

foreach($questions as &$question){

Adding the & will keep the $questions updated. But I would say the first one is recommended even though this is shorter (see comment by Paystey)

Per the PHP foreach documentation:

In order to be able to directly modify array elements within the loop precede $value with &. In that case the value will be assigned by reference.

How to call a method with a separate thread in Java?

In Java 8 you can do this with one line of code.

If your method doesn't take any parameters, you can use a method reference:

new Thread(MyClass::doWork).start();

Otherwise, you can call the method in a lambda expression:

new Thread(() -> doWork(someParam)).start();

You probably need to do something like :

Paint red = new Paint();

red.setColor(android.graphics.Color.RED);
red.setStyle(Paint.Style.FILL);

And use this color for your path, instead of your ARGB. Make sure the last point of your path ends on the first one, it makes sense also.

How does data binding work in AngularJS?

  1. The one-way data binding is an approach where a value is taken from the data model and inserted into an HTML element. There is no way to update model from view. It is used in classical template systems. These systems bind data in only one direction.

  2. Data-binding in Angular apps is the automatic synchronisation of data between the model and view components.

Data binding lets you treat the model as the single-source-of-truth in your application. The view is a projection of the model at all times. If the model is changed, the view reflects the change and vice versa.

What is the difference between Tomcat, JBoss and Glassfish?

You should use GlassFish for Java EE enterprise applications. Some things to consider:

A web Server means: Handling HTTP requests (usually from browsers).

A Servlet Container (e.g. Tomcat) means: It can handle servlets & JSP.

An Application Server (e.g. GlassFish) means: *It can manage Java EE applications (usually both servlet/JSP and EJBs).

Tomcat - is run by Apache community - Open source and has two flavors:

  1. Tomcat - Web profile - lightweight which is only servlet container and does not support Java EE features like EJB, JMS etc.
  2. Tomcat EE - This is a certified Java EE container, this supports all Java EE technologies.

No commercial support available (only community support)

JBoss - Run by RedHat This is a full-stack support for JavaEE and it is a certified Java EE container. This includes Tomcat as web container internally. This also has two flavors:

  1. Community version called Application Server (AS) - this will have only community support.
  2. Enterprise Application Server (EAP) - For this, you can have a subscription-based license (It's based on the number of Cores you have on your servers.)

Glassfish - Run by Oracle This is also a full stack certified Java EE Container. This has its own web container (not Tomcat). This comes from Oracle itself, so all new specs will be tested and implemented with Glassfish first. So, always it would support the latest spec. I am not aware of its support models.

What "wmic bios get serialnumber" actually retrieves?

wmic bios get serialnumber

if run from a command line (start-run should also do the trick) prints out on screen the Serial Number of the product,
(for example in a toshiba laptop it would print out the serial number of the laptop.
with this serial number you can then identify your laptop model if you need ,from the makers service website-usually..:):)

Difference between virtual and abstract methods

Abstract Method:

  • If an abstract method is defined in a class, then the class should declare as an abstract class.

  • An abstract method should contain only method definition, should not Contain the method body/implementation.

  • An abstract method must be over ride in the derived class.

Virtual Method:

  • Virtual methods can be over ride in the derived class but not mandatory.
  • Virtual methods must have the method body/implementation along with the definition.

Example:

public abstract class baseclass
        {
            public abstract decimal getarea(decimal Radius);

            public virtual decimal interestpermonth(decimal amount)
            {
                return amount*12/100;
            }

            public virtual decimal totalamount(decimal Amount,decimal principleAmount)
            {
                return Amount + principleAmount;
            }
        }

        public class derivedclass:baseclass
        {
            public override decimal getarea(decimal Radius)
            {
                return 2 * (22 / 7) * Radius;
            }

            public override decimal interestpermonth(decimal amount)
            {
                return amount * 14 / 100;
            }
        }

How to use performSelector:withObject:afterDelay: with primitive types in Cocoa?

DO NOT USE THIS ANSWER. I HAVE ONLY LEFT IT FOR HISTORICAL PURPOSES. SEE THE COMMENTS BELOW.

There is a simple trick if it is a BOOL parameter.

Pass nil for NO and self for YES. nil is cast to the BOOL value of NO. self is cast to the BOOL value of YES.

This approach breaks down if it is anything other than a BOOL parameter.

Assuming self is a UIView.

//nil will be cast to NO when the selector is performed
[self performSelector:@selector(setHidden:) withObject:nil afterDelay:5.0];

//self will be cast to YES when the selector is performed
[self performSelector:@selector(setHidden:) withObject:self afterDelay:10.0];

Script Tag - async & defer

I think Jake Archibald presented us some insights back in 2013 that might add even more positiveness to the topic:

https://www.html5rocks.com/en/tutorials/speed/script-loading/

The holy grail is having a set of scripts download immediately without blocking rendering and execute as soon as possible in the order they were added. Unfortunately HTML hates you and won’t let you do that.

(...)

The answer is actually in the HTML5 spec, although it’s hidden away at the bottom of the script-loading section. "The async IDL attribute controls whether the element will execute asynchronously or not. If the element's "force-async" flag is set, then, on getting, the async IDL attribute must return true, and on setting, the "force-async" flag must first be unset…".

(...)

Scripts that are dynamically created and added to the document are async by default, they don’t block rendering and execute as soon as they download, meaning they could come out in the wrong order. However, we can explicitly mark them as not async:

[
    '//other-domain.com/1.js',
    '2.js'
].forEach(function(src) {
    var script = document.createElement('script');
    script.src = src;
    script.async = false;
    document.head.appendChild(script);
});

This gives our scripts a mix of behaviour that can’t be achieved with plain HTML. By being explicitly not async, scripts are added to an execution queue, the same queue they’re added to in our first plain-HTML example. However, by being dynamically created, they’re executed outside of document parsing, so rendering isn’t blocked while they’re downloaded (don’t confuse not-async script loading with sync XHR, which is never a good thing).

The script above should be included inline in the head of pages, queueing script downloads as soon as possible without disrupting progressive rendering, and executes as soon as possible in the order you specified. “2.js” is free to download before “1.js”, but it won’t be executed until “1.js” has either successfully downloaded and executed, or fails to do either. Hurrah! async-download but ordered-execution!

Still, this might not be the fastest way to load scripts:

(...) With the example above the browser has to parse and execute script to discover which scripts to download. This hides your scripts from preload scanners. Browsers use these scanners to discover resources on pages you’re likely to visit next, or discover page resources while the parser is blocked by another resource.

We can add discoverability back in by putting this in the head of the document:

<link rel="subresource" href="//other-domain.com/1.js">
<link rel="subresource" href="2.js">

This tells the browser the page needs 1.js and 2.js. link[rel=subresource] is similar to link[rel=prefetch], but with different semantics. Unfortunately it’s currently only supported in Chrome, and you have to declare which scripts to load twice, once via link elements, and again in your script.

Correction: I originally stated these were picked up by the preload scanner, they're not, they're picked up by the regular parser. However, preload scanner could pick these up, it just doesn't yet, whereas scripts included by executable code can never be preloaded. Thanks to Yoav Weiss who corrected me in the comments.

When to use "ON UPDATE CASCADE"

  1. Yes, it means that for example if you do UPDATE parent SET id = 20 WHERE id = 10 all children parent_id's of 10 will also be updated to 20

  2. If you don't update the field the foreign key refers to, this setting is not needed

  3. Can't think of any other use.

  4. You can't do that as the foreign key constraint would fail.

Android: How to bind spinner to custom object list?

Just a small tweak to Joaquin Alberto's answer can solve the style issue.Just replace the getDropDownView function in the custom adapter as below,

@Override

        TextView tv = ((TextView) v);

JavaScript Regular Expression Email Validation

Email validation is easy to get wrong. I would therefore recommend that you use Verimail.js.

Why?

  • Syntax validation (according to RFC 822).
  • IANA TLD validation
  • Spelling suggestion for the most common TLDs and email domains
  • Deny temporary email account domains such as mailinator.com
  • jQuery plugin support

Another great thing with Verimail.js is that it has spelling suggestion for the most common email domains and registered TLDs. This can lower your bounce rate drastically for users that misspell common domain names such as gmail.com, hotmail.com, aol.com, aso..

Example:

How to use it?

The easiest way is to download and include verimail.jquery.js on your page. After that, hookup Verimail by running the following function on the input-box that needs the validation:

$("input#email-address").verimail({
    messageElement: "p#status-message"
});

The message element is an optional element that displays a message such as "Invalid email.." or "Did you mean [email protected]?". If you have a form and only want to proceed if the email is verified, you can use the function getVerimailStatus as shown below:

if($("input#email-address").getVerimailStatus() < 0){
    // Invalid email
}else{
    // Valid email
}

The getVerimailStatus-function returns an integer code according to the object Comfirm.AlphaMail.Verimail.Status. As shown above, if the status is a negative integer value, then the validation should be treated as a failure. But if the value is greater or equal to 0, then the validation should be treated as a success.

How do I put variable values into a text string in MATLAB?

As Peter and Amro illustrate, you have to convert numeric values to formatted strings first in order to display them or concatenate them with other character strings. You can do this using the functions FPRINTF, SPRINTF, NUM2STR, and INT2STR.

With respect to getting ans = 3 as an output, it is probably because you are not assigning the output from answer to a variable. If you want to get all of the output values, you will have to call answer in the following way:

[out1,out2,out3] = answer(1,2);

This will place the value d in out1, the value e in out2, and the value f in out3. When you do the following:

answer(1,2)

MATLAB will automatically assign the first output d (which has the value 3 in this case) to the default workspace variable ans.

With respect to suggesting a good resource for learning MATLAB, you shouldn't underestimate the value of the MATLAB documentation. I've learned most of what I know on my own using it. You can access it online, or within your copy of MATLAB using the functions DOC, HELP, or HELPWIN.

Fundamental difference between Hashing and Encryption algorithms

when it comes to security for transmitting data i.e Two way communication you use encryption.All encryption requires a key

when it comes to authorization you use hashing.There is no key in hashing

Hashing takes any amount of data (binary or text) and creates a constant-length hash representing a checksum for the data. For example, the hash might be 16 bytes. Different hashing algorithms produce different size hashes. You obviously cannot re-create the original data from the hash, but you can hash the data again to see if the same hash value is generated. One-way Unix-based passwords work this way. The password is stored as a hash value, and to log onto a system, the password you type is hashed, and the hash value is compared against the hash of the real password. If they match, then you must've typed the correct password

why is hashing irreversible :

Hashing isn't reversible because the input-to-hash mapping is not 1-to-1. Having two inputs map to the same hash value is usually referred to as a "hash collision". For security purposes, one of the properties of a "good" hash function is that collisions are rare in practical use.

As noted by CommonsWare in this question https://stackoverflow.com/a/16064418/1319061, this error can also occur if you are creating an anonymous subclass of a Fragment, since anonymous classes cannot have constructors.

Don't make anonymous subclasses of Fragment :-)

Changing the interval of SetInterval while it's running

Inspired by the internal callback above, i made a function to fire a callback at fractions of minutes. If timeout is set to intervals like 6 000, 15 000, 30 000, 60 000 it will continuously adapt the intervals in sync to the exact transition to the next minute of your system clock.

//Interval timer to trigger on even minute intervals
function setIntervalSynced(callback, intervalMs) {

    //Calculate time to next modulus timer event
    var betterInterval = function () {
        var d = new Date();
        var millis = (d.getMinutes() * 60 + d.getSeconds()) * 1000 + d.getMilliseconds();
        return intervalMs - millis % intervalMs;
    };

    //Internal callback
    var internalCallback = function () {
        return function () {
            setTimeout(internalCallback, betterInterval());
            callback();
        }
    }();

    //Initial call to start internal callback
    setTimeout(internalCallback, betterInterval());

It is a good practice since an element can be a part of different groups, and you may want specific elements to be a part of more than one group. The element can hold an infinite number of classes in HTML5, while in HTML4 you are limited by a specific length.

The following example will show you the use of multiple classes.

The first class makes the text color red.

The second class makes the background-color blue.

See how the DOM Element with multiple classes will behave, it will wear both CSS statements at the same time.

Result: multiple CSS statements in different classes will stack up.

You can read more about CSS Specificity.

CSS

.class1 {
    color:red;
}

.class2 {
    background-color:blue;
}

HTML

<div class="class1">text 1</div>
<div class="class2">text 2</div>
<div class="class1 class2">text 3</div>

"Correct" way to specifiy optional arguments in R functions

I would tend to prefer using NULL for the clarity of what is required and what is optional. One word of warning about using default values that depend on other arguments, as suggested by Jthorpe. The value is not set when the function is called, but when the argument is first referenced! For instance:

foo <- function(x,y=length(x)){
    x <- x[1:10]
    print(y)
}
foo(1:20)
#[1] 10

On the other hand, if you reference y before changing x:

foo <- function(x,y=length(x)){
    print(y)
    x <- x[1:10]
}
foo(1:20)
#[1] 20

This is a bit dangerous, because it makes it hard to keep track of what "y" is being initialized as if it's not called early on in the function.

How can I pad an integer with zeros on the left?

Although many of the above approaches are good, but sometimes we need to format integers as well as floats. We can use this, particularly when we need to pad particular number of zeroes on left as well as right of decimal numbers.

import java.text.NumberFormat;
public class NumberFormatMain {

public static void main(String[] args) {
    int intNumber = 25;
    float floatNumber = 25.546f;
    NumberFormat format=NumberFormat.getInstance();
    format.setMaximumIntegerDigits(6);
    format.setMaximumFractionDigits(6);
    format.setMinimumFractionDigits(6);
    format.setMinimumIntegerDigits(6);

    System.out.println("Formatted Integer : "+format.format(intNumber).replace(",",""));
    System.out.println("Formatted Float   : "+format.format(floatNumber).replace(",",""));
 }
}

Passing an Object from an Activity to a Fragment

To pass an object to a fragment, do the following:

First store the objects in Bundle, don't forget to put implements serializable in class.

            CategoryRowFragment fragment = new CategoryRowFragment();

            // pass arguments to fragment
            Bundle bundle = new Bundle();

            // event list we want to populate
            bundle.putSerializable("eventsList", eventsList);

            // the description of the row
            bundle.putSerializable("categoryRow", categoryRow);

            fragment.setArguments(bundle);

Then retrieve bundles in Fragment

_x000D_
_x000D_
       // events that will be populated in this row_x000D_
        mEventsList = (ArrayList<Event>)getArguments().getSerializable("eventsList");_x000D_
_x000D_
        // description of events to be populated in this row_x000D_
        mCategoryRow = (CategoryRow)getArguments().getSerializable("categoryRow");
_x000D_
_x000D_

vba pass a group of cells as range to function

As written, your function accepts only two ranges as arguments.

To allow for a variable number of ranges to be used in the function, you need to declare a ParamArray variant array in your argument list. Then, you can process each of the ranges in the array in turn.

For example,

Function myAdd(Arg1 As Range, ParamArray Args2() As Variant) As Double
    Dim elem As Variant
    Dim i As Long
    For Each elem In Arg1
        myAdd = myAdd + elem.Value
    Next elem
    For i = LBound(Args2) To UBound(Args2)
        For Each elem In Args2(i)
            myAdd = myAdd + elem.Value
        Next elem
    Next i
End Function

This function could then be used in the worksheet to add multiple ranges.

myAdd usage

For your function, there is the question of which of the ranges (or cells) that can passed to the function are 'Sessions' and which are 'Customers'.

The easiest case to deal with would be if you decided that the first range is Sessions and any subsequent ranges are Customers.

Function calculateIt(Sessions As Range, ParamArray Customers() As Variant) As Double
    'This function accepts a single Sessions range and one or more Customers
    'ranges
    Dim i As Long
    Dim sessElem As Variant
    Dim custElem As Variant
    For Each sessElem In Sessions
        'do something with sessElem.Value, the value of each
        'cell in the single range Sessions
        Debug.Print "sessElem: " & sessElem.Value
    Next sessElem
    'loop through each of the one or more ranges in Customers()
    For i = LBound(Customers) To UBound(Customers)
        'loop through the cells in the range Customers(i)
        For Each custElem In Customers(i)
            'do something with custElem.Value, the value of
            'each cell in the range Customers(i)
            Debug.Print "custElem: " & custElem.Value
         Next custElem
    Next i
End Function

If you want to include any number of Sessions ranges and any number of Customers range, then you will have to include an argument that will tell the function so that it can separate the Sessions ranges from the Customers range.

This argument could be set up as the first, numeric, argument to the function that would identify how many of the following arguments are Sessions ranges, with the remaining arguments implicitly being Customers ranges. The function's signature would then be:

Function calculateIt(numOfSessionRanges, ParamAray Args() As Variant)

Or it could be a "guard" argument that separates the Sessions ranges from the Customers ranges. Then, your code would have to test each argument to see if it was the guard. The function would look like:

Function calculateIt(ParamArray Args() As Variant)

Perhaps with a call something like:

calculateIt(sessRange1,sessRange2,...,"|",custRange1,custRange2,...)

The program logic might then be along the lines of:

Function calculateIt(ParamArray Args() As Variant) As Double
   ...
   'loop through Args
   IsSessionArg = True
   For i = lbound(Args) to UBound(Args)
       'only need to check for the type of the argument
       If TypeName(Args(i)) = "String" Then
          IsSessionArg = False
       ElseIf IsSessionArg Then
          'process Args(i) as Session range
       Else
          'process Args(i) as Customer range
       End if
   Next i
   calculateIt = <somevalue>
End Function

How to bind a List to a ComboBox?

public MainWindow(){
    List<person> personList = new List<person>();

    personList.Add(new person { name = "rob", age = 32 } );
    personList.Add(new person { name = "annie", age = 24 } );
    personList.Add(new person { name = "paul", age = 19 } );

    comboBox1.DataSource = personList;
    comboBox1.DisplayMember = "name";

    comboBox1.SelectionChanged += new SelectionChangedEventHandler(comboBox1_SelectionChanged);
}

void comboBox1_SelectionChanged(object sender, SelectionChangedEventArgs e)
{
    person selectedPerson = comboBox1.SelectedItem as person;
    messageBox.Show(selectedPerson.name, "caption goes here");
}

boom.

How do you get the logical xor of two variables in Python?

How about this?

(not b and a) or (not a and b)

will give a if b is false
will give b if a is false
will give False otherwise

Or with the Python 2.5+ ternary expression:

(False if a else b) if b else a

Disable future dates in jQuery UI Datepicker

Yes, indeed. The datepicker has the maxdate property that you can set when you initialize it.

Here's the codez

$("#datepicker").datepicker({ maxDate: new Date, minDate: new Date(2007, 6, 12) });

C Macro definition to determine big endian or little endian machine?

Please pay attention that most of the answers here are not portable, since compilers today will evaluate those answers in compilation time (depends on the optimization) and return a specific value based on a specific endianness, while the actual machine endianness can differ. The values on which the endianness is tested, won't never reach the system memory thus the real executed code will return the same result regardless of the actual endianness.

For example, in ARM Cortex-M3 the implemented endianness will reflect in a status bit AIRCR.ENDIANNESS and compiler cannot know this value in compile time.

Compilation output for some of the answers suggested here:

https://godbolt.org/z/GJGNE2 for this answer,

https://godbolt.org/z/Yv-pyJ for this answer, and so on.

To solve it you will need to use the volatile qualifier. Yogeesh H T's answer is the closest one for today's real life usage, but since Christoph suggests more comprehensive solution, a slight fix to his answer would make the answer complete, just add volatile to the union declaration: static const volatile union.

This would assure storing and reading from memory, which is needed to determine endianness.

JavaScript: Alert.Show(message) From ASP.NET Code-behind

You need to fix this line:

string script = "<script type=\"text/javascript\">alert('" + cleanMessage + "');</script>";

And also this one:

RegisterClientScriptBlock("alert", script); //lose the typeof thing

How to get number of entries in a Lua table?

seems when the elements of the table is added by insert method, getn will return correctly. Otherwise, we have to count all elements

mytable = {}
element1 = {version = 1.1}
element2 = {version = 1.2}
table.insert(mytable, element1)
table.insert(mytable, element2)
print(table.getn(mytable))

It will print 2 correctly

python: iterate a specific range in a list

How to get main div container to align to centre?

You can text-align: center the body to center the container. Then text-align: left the container to get all the text, etc. to align left.

How do you handle multiple submit buttons in ASP.NET MVC Framework?

You can check the name in the action as has been mentioned, but you might consider whether or not this is good design. It is a good idea to consider the responsibility of the action and not couple this design too much to UI aspects like button names. So consider using 2 forms and 2 actions:

<% Html.BeginForm("Send", "MyController", FormMethod.Post); %>
<input type="submit" name="button" value="Send" />
<% Html.EndForm(); %>

<% Html.BeginForm("Cancel", "MyController", FormMethod.Post); %>
<input type="submit" name="button" value="Cancel" />
<% Html.EndForm(); %>

Also, in the case of "Cancel", you are usually just not processing the form and are going to a new URL. In this case you do not need to submit the form at all and just need a link:

<%=Html.ActionLink("Cancel", "List", "MyController") %>

Reload an iframe with jQuery

you can do it like this

$('.refrech-iframe').click(function(){
        $(".myiframe").attr("src", function(index, attr){
            return attr;
        });
    });

Python: URLError: <urlopen error [Errno 10060]

This is because of the proxy settings. I also had the same problem, under which I could not use any of the modules which were fetching data from the internet. There are simple steps to follow:
1. open the control panel
2. open internet options
3. under connection tab open LAN settings
4. go to advance settings and unmark everything, delete every proxy in there. Or u can just unmark the checkbox in proxy server this will also do the same
5. save all the settings by clicking ok.
you are done. try to run the programme again, it must work it worked for me at least

Android; Check if file exists without creating a new one

It worked for me:

File file = new File(getApplicationContext().getFilesDir(),"whatever.txt");
    if(file.exists()){
       //Do something
    }
    else{
       //Nothing
     }

Android REST client, Sample?

There is plenty of libraries out there and I'm using this one: https://github.com/nerde/rest-resource. This was created by me, and, as you can see in the documentation, it's way cleaner and simpler than the other ones. It's not focused on Android, but I'm using in it and it's working pretty well.

It supports HTTP Basic Auth. It does the dirty job of serializing and deserializing JSON objects. You will like it, specially if your API is Rails like.

Set today's date as default date in jQuery UI datepicker

Try this:
