500 Error on AppHarbor but downloaded build works on my machine

Just a wild guess: (not much to go on) but I have had similar problems when, for example, I was using the IIS rewrite module on my local machine (and it worked fine), but when I uploaded to a host that did not have that add-on module installed, I would get a 500 error with very little to go on - sounds similar. It drove me crazy trying to find it.

So make sure whatever options/addons that you might have and be using locally in IIS are also installed on the host.

Similarly, make sure you understand everything that is being referenced/used in your web.config - that is likely the problem area.

403 - Forbidden: Access is denied. You do not have permission to view this directory or page using the credentials that you supplied

In my case, the issue was new sites had an implicit deny of all IP addresses unless an explicit allow was created. To fix: Under the site in Features View: Under the IIS Section > IP Address and Domain Restrictions > Edit Feature Settings > Set 'Access for unspecified clients:' to 'Allow'

Static Final Variable in Java

For the primitive types, the 'final static' will be a proper declaration to declare a constant. A non-static final variable makes sense when it is a constant reference to an object. In this case each instance can contain its own reference, as shown in JLS 4.5.4.

Bitmap is Parcelable so you can add using [putExtra(String,Parcelable)][2] method, But not sure it is a best practice, If it is large size data it is better to store in a single place and use from both activities.

In those cases there is an even simpler way to write the contents of a StringBuilder to a text file. It can be done with one line of code. It may not be the most efficient but that wasn't really the question now was it.

Ok @Adam and @Kimvais were right, paramiko cannot parse .ppk files.

So the way to go (thanks to @JimB too) is to convert .ppk file to openssh private key format; this can be achieved using Puttygen as described here.

This uses a bit of ES6 for prettiness, but can easily be translated for legacy browsers as well. In the function attached to the event listeners, it's currently just logging out what kind of event occurred but this is where you could print out additional information, or using a switch case on the e.type, you could only print information on specific events

FYI, another way this exception can occur is if:

  • Your transaction isolation is READ_COMMITTED
  • Transaction #1 queries for an entity, then deletes that entity
  • A simultaneous transaction #2 does the same thing

Then this can happen: TX #1 successfully commits before TX #2, then when TX #2 tries to delete the entity (again) it's not there any more - even though it was found by a query earlier in that same transaction. Note this anomaly is allowed with READ_COMMITTED isolation.

In my case the resulting exception looked like this:

Git Push ERROR: Repository not found

I can explain how i get into the similar situation, and then will list steps that i have taken to solve this issue.

I am using
Windows 10,
git: git version 2.27.0.windows.1.

I had already setup the git and was doing git push activities. Windows Credential Manager stores the username and password so you don't have to enter username and password every git remote activities.

The encounter this problem, when i added another github account and used --local git settings. After few days, I encounter the Repository not found problem, upon investigation i found:

  1. Even if you remove the git details from Windows Credential Manager, it will save again the username, email details you enter.

So, if you are using two git accounts, you need to use (git bash as an administrator)

git config --edit --system 

and remove the

helper = manager 

line so that it is no longer registered as a credential helper. But it will ask you login details every time you do any remote activities.

Proper usage of Java -D command-line parameters

You're giving parameters to your program instead to Java. Use

java -Dtest="true" -jar myApplication.jar 

instead.

Consider using

"true".equalsIgnoreCase(System.getProperty("test"))

to avoid the NPE. But do not use "Yoda conditions" always without thinking, sometimes throwing the NPE is the right behavior and sometimes something like

System.getProperty("test") == null || System.getProperty("test").equalsIgnoreCase("true")

is right (providing default true). A shorter possibility is

expand/collapse table rows with JQuery

I liked the simplest answer provided. However, I didn't like the choppiness of the collapsing. So I combined a solution from this question: How to Use slideDown (or show) function on a table row? to make it a smoother animation when the rows slide up or down. It involves having to wrap the content of each td in a div. This allows it to smoothly animate the collapsing. When the rows are expanded, it will replace the div, with just the content.

So here's the html:

JavaScript: Create and destroy class instance through class method

1- There is no way to actually destroy an object in javascript, but using delete, we could remove a reference from an object:

var obj = {};
obj.mypointer = null;
delete obj.mypointer;

2- The important point about the delete keyword is that it does not actually destroy the object BUT if only after deleting that reference to the object, there is no other reference left in the memory pointed to the same object, that object would be marked as collectible. The delete keyword deletes the reference but doesn't GC the actual object. it means if you have several references of the same object, the object will be collected just after you delete all the pointed references.

3- there are also some tricks and workarounds that could help us out, when we want to make sure we do not leave any memory leaks behind. for instance if you have an array consisting several objects, without any other pointed reference to those objects, if you recreate the array all those objects would be killed. For instance if you have var array = [{}, {}] overriding the value of the array like array = [] would remove the references to the two objects inside the array and those two objects would be marked as collectible.

4- for your solution the easiest way is just this:

As mentioned above, either setting storage.instance = null or delete storage.instance would suffice to remove the reference to the object and allow it to be cleaned up by the GC. The difference is that if you set it to null then the storage object still has a property called instance (with the value null). If you delete storage.instance then the storage object no longer has a property named instance.

and WHAT ABOUT destroy method ??

the paradoxical point here is if you use instance.destroy in the destroy function you have no access to the actual instance pointer, and it won't let you delete it.

The only way is to pass the reference to the destroy function and then delete it:

Unable to obtain LocalDateTime from TemporalAccessor when parsing LocalDateTime (Java 8)

This is a really unclear and unhelpful error message. After much trial and error I found that LocalDateTime will give the above error if you do not attempt to parse a time. By using LocalDate instead, it works without erroring.

This is poorly documented and the related exception is very unhelpful.

But you're treating the symptoms instead of the underlying cause - why are the connections open? If the PHP script finished, shouldn't they close? Make sure your webserver is not using connection pooling...

Not sure if this is a feature or a bug but this worked for us:

Note the empty file list ''. Git interprets this to commit all modified tracked files, even if they are not staged, and ignore untracked files.

jQuery: more than one handler for same event

There is a workaround to guarantee that one handler happens after another: attach the second handler to a containing element and let the event bubble up. In the handler attached to the container, you can look at event.target and do something if it's the one you're interested in.

Crude, maybe, but it definitely should work.

The current recommended best practice from Apple is for IBOutlets to be strong unless weak is specifically needed to avoid a retain cycle. As Johannes mentioned above, this was commented on in the "Implementing UI Designs in Interface Builder" session from WWDC 2015 where an Apple Engineer said:

And the last option I want to point out is the storage type, which can either be strong or weak. In general you should make your outlet strong, especially if you are connecting an outlet to a subview or to a constraint that's not always going to be retained by the view hierarchy. The only time you really need to make an outlet weak is if you have a custom view that references something back up the view hierarchy and in general that's not recommended.

In WPF, TextBox element will not get opportunity to use "Enter" button for creating KeyUp Event until you will not set property: AcceptsReturn="True".

You can create your own custom Dialog. It's fairly easy. If you want to dismiss it with a selection in the spinner, then add an OnItemClickListener and add

Get data from fs.readFile

To elaborate on what @Raynos said, the function you have defined is an asynchronous callback. It doesn't execute right away, rather it executes when the file loading has completed. When you call readFile, control is returned immediately and the next line of code is executed. So when you call console.log, your callback has not yet been invoked, and this content has not yet been set. Welcome to asynchronous programming.

Some of these answers do work, but setting position: absolute; and z-index: 10; seemed pretty strong just to achieve the required effect. I found the following was all that was required, though unfortunately, I've not been able to reduce it any further.

NullPointerException in Java with no StackTrace

As you mentioned in a comment, you're using log4j. I discovered (inadvertently) a place where I had written

LOG.error(exc);

instead of the typical

LOG.error("Some informative message", e);

through laziness or perhaps just not thinking about it. The unfortunate part of this is that it doesn't behave as you expect. The logger API actually takes Object as the first argument, not a string - and then it calls toString() on the argument. So instead of getting the nice pretty stack trace, it just prints out the toString - which in the case of NPE is pretty useless.

Perhaps this is what you're experiencing?

What git really tries to tell you: "You are already in a merge state and need to resolve the conflicts there first!"

You tried a merge and a conflict occured. Then, git stays in the merge state and if you want to resolve the merge with other commands git thinks you want to execute a new merge and so it tells you you can't do this because of your current unmerged files...

You can leave this state with git merge --abort and now try to execute other commands.

In my case I tried a pull and wanted to resolve the conflicts by hand when the error occured...

How many socket connections possible?

A limit on the number of open sockets is configurable in the /proc file system

Max for incoming connections in the OS defined by integer limits.

Linux itself allows billions of open sockets.

To use the sockets you need an application listening, e.g. a web server, and that will use a certain amount of RAM per socket.

RAM and CPU will introduce the real limits. (modern 2017, think millions not billions)

1 millions is possible, not easy. Expect to use X Gigabytes of RAM to manage 1 million sockets.

Outgoing TCP connections are limited by port numbers ~65000 per IP. You can have multiple IP addresses, but not unlimited IP addresses. This is a limit in TCP not Linux.

How to get your Netbeans project into Eclipse

One other easy way of doing it would be as follows (if you have a simple NetBeans project and not using maven for example).

  1. In Eclipse, Go to File -> New -> Java Project
  2. Give a name for your project and click finish to create your project

For...in loop

The for...in loop improves upon the weaknesses of the for loop by eliminating the counting logic and exit condition.

Example:

But, you still have to deal with the issue of using an index to access the values of the array, and that stinks; it almost makes it more confusing than before.

Because for...in loops loop over all enumerable properties, this means if you add any additional properties to the array's prototype, then those properties will also appear in the loop.

NOTE: The forEach loop is another type of for loop in JavaScript. However, forEach() is actually an array method, so it can only be used exclusively with arrays. There is also no way to stop or break a forEach loop. If you need that type of behavior in your loop, you’ll have to use a basic for loop.

For...of loop

The for...of loop is used to loop over any type of data that is iterable.

Both will generate the same columns when you run the migration. In rails console, you can see that this is the case:

I had this issue caused by having an unexpected folder on disk (jspm_packages, no longer being used) which was not tracked by source control (and hidden from my IDE). This had a duplicate install of TypeScript in it, which caused the issues.

Bit of an edge case but leaving an answer here just in case someone else is hunting for this solution.

How to pipe list of files returned by find command to cat to view all the files

There are a few ways to pass the list of files returned by the find command to the cat command, though technically not all use piping, and none actually pipe directly to cat.

  1. The simplest is to use backticks (`):

    cat `find [whatever]`
    

    This takes the output of find and effectively places it on the command line of cat. This doesn't work well if find has too much output (more than can fit on a command-line) or if the output has special characters (like spaces).

  2. In some shells, including bash, one can use $() instead of backticks :

    cat $(find [whatever])
    

    This is less portable, but is nestable. Aside from that, it has pretty much the same caveats as backticks.

  3. Because running other commands on what was found is a common use for find, find has an -exec action which executes a command for each file it finds:

    find [whatever] -exec cat {} \;
    

    The {} is a placeholder for the filename, and the \; marks the end of the command (It's possible to have other actions after -exec.)

    This will run cat once for every single file rather than running a single instance of cat passing it multiple filenames which can be inefficient and might not have the behavior you want for some commands (though it's fine for cat). The syntax is also a awkward to type -- you need to escape the semicolon because semicolon is special to the shell!

  4. Some versions of find (most notably the GNU version) let you replace ; with + to use -exec's append mode to run fewer instances of cat:

    find [whatever] -exec cat {} +
    

    This will pass multiple filenames to each invocation of cat, which can be more efficient.

    Note that this is not guaranteed to use a single invocation, however. If the command line would be too long then the arguments are spread across multiple invocations of cat. For cat this is probably not a big deal, but for some other commands this may change the behavior in undesirable ways. On Linux systems, the command line length limit is quite large, so splitting into multiple invocations is quite rare compared to some other OSes.

  5. The classic/portable approach is to use xargs:

    find [whatever] | xargs cat
    

    xargs runs the command specified (cat, in this case), and adds arguments based on what it reads from stdin. Just like -exec with +, this will break up the command-line if necessary. That is, if find produces too much output, it'll run cat multiple times. As mentioned in the section about -exec earlier, there are some commands where this splitting may result in different behavior. Note that using xargs like this has issues with spaces in filenames, as xargs just uses whitespace as a delimiter.

  6. The most robust, portable, and efficient method also uses xargs:

    find [whatever] -print0 | xargs -0 cat
    

    The -print0 flag tells find to use \0 (null character) delimiters between filenames, and the -0 flag tells xargs to expect these \0 delimiters. This has pretty much identical behavior to the -exec...+ approach, though is more portable (but unfortunately more verbose).

For maven 2 I'd recommend creating your own custom pom for the dependency that has your <exclusions>. For projects that need to use that dependency, set the dependency to your custom pom instead of the typical artifact. While that does not necessarily allow you exclude all transitive dependencies with a single <exclusion>, it does allow you only have to write your dependency once and all of your projects don't need to maintain unnecessary and long exclusion lists.

You have it covered aside from using the wrong property. The scrollbar can be triggered with any property overflow, overflow-x, or overflow-y and each can be set to any of visible, hidden, scroll, auto, or inherit. You are currently looking at these two:

  • auto - This value will look at the width and height of the box. If they are defined, it won't let the box expand past those boundaries. Instead (if the content exceeds those boundaries), it will create a scrollbar for either boundary (or both) that exceeds its length.

  • scroll - This values forces a scrollbar, no matter what, even if the content does not exceed the boundary set. If the content doesn't need to be scrolled, the bar will appear as "disabled" or non-interactive.

If you always want the vertical scrollbar to appear:

You should use overflow-y: scroll. This forces a scrollbar to appear for the vertical axis whether or not it is needed. If you can't actually scroll the context, it will appear as a"disabled" scrollbar.

If you only want a scrollbar to appear if you can scroll the box:

Just use overflow: auto. Since your content by default just breaks to the next line when it cannot fit on the current line, a horizontal scrollbar won't be created (unless it's on an element that has word-wrapping disabled). For the vertical bar,it will allow the content to expand up to the height you have specified. If it exceeds that height, it will show a vertical scrollbar to view the rest of the content, but will not show a scrollbar if it does not exceed the height.

The TypeError is happening because k is a list, since it is created using a slice from another list with the line k = list[0:j]. This should probably be something like k = ' '.join(list[0:j]), so you have a string instead.

You are also clearing your dictionary on each iteration since you have d = {} inside of your for loop.

Java : Comparable vs Comparator

When your class implements Comparable, the compareTo method of the class is defining the "natural" ordering of that object. That method is contractually obligated (though not demanded) to be in line with other methods on that object, such as a 0 should always be returned for objects when the .equals() comparisons return true.

A Comparator is its own definition of how to compare two objects, and can be used to compare objects in a way that might not align with the natural ordering.

For example, Strings are generally compared alphabetically. Thus the "a".compareTo("b") would use alphabetical comparisons. If you wanted to compare Strings on length, you would need to write a custom comparator.

In short, there isn't much difference. They are both ends to similar means. In general implement comparable for natural order, (natural order definition is obviously open to interpretation), and write a comparator for other sorting or comparison needs.

The reason you were getting null in your controller is because you didn't respect the naming convention for your input fields that the default model binder expects to successfully bind to a list. I invite you to read the following article.

plt.close() will close current instance.

plt.close(2) will close figure 2

Remember that plt.show() is a blocking function, so in the example code you used above, plt.close() isn't being executed until the window is closed, which makes it redundant.

You can use plt.ion() at the beginning of your code to make it non-blocking, although this has other implications.

EXAMPLE

After our discussion in the comments, I've put together a bit of an example just to demonstrate how the plot functionality can be used.

Below I create a plot:

I can also create a slider widget by doing the following:

A note about the above: When I run the application, the code runs sequentially right through (it stores the update function in memory, I think), until it hits show(), which is blocking. When you make a change to one of the sliders, it runs the update function from memory (I think?).

This is the reason why show() is implemented in the way it is, so that you can change values in the background by using functions to process the data.

  • open relevant 'jquery-ui-x.-.x.css' file
  • search for the missing file name in css file(eg: ui-bg_flat_75_ffffff_40x100.png")

  • instead add the following line to replace the background color 'background-color: #ffffff'

There are already many good answers to the part "what is uintptr_t data type". I will try to address the "what it can be used for?" part in this post.

Primarily for bitwise operations on pointers. Remember that in C++ one cannot perform bitwise operations on pointers. For reasons see Why can't you do bitwise operations on pointer in C, and is there a way around this?

Thus in order to do bitwise operations on pointers one would need to cast pointers to type unitpr_t and then perform bitwise operations.

Here is an example of a function that I just wrote to do bitwise exclusive or of 2 pointers to store in a XOR linked list so that we can traverse in both directions like a doubly linked list but without the penalty of storing 2 pointers in each node.

Actually checking if the email exists and doesn't bounce would mean sending an email and seeing what the result was. i.e. it bounced or it didn't. However it might not bounce for several hours or not at all and still not be a "real" email address. There are a number of services out there which purport to do this for you and would probably be paid for by you and quite frankly why bother to see if it is real?

It is good to check the user has not misspelt their email else they could enter it incorrectly, not realise it and then get hacked of with you for not replying. However if someone wants to add a bum email address there would be nothing to stop them creating it on hotmail or yahoo (or many other places) to gain the same end.

So do the regular expression and validate the structure but forget about validating against a service.

The code you have given, needs to be corrected. In form tag you have to enclosed the onClick attribute value in double quote:

I'm blind, and have been programming for about 13 years on Windows, Mac, Linux and DOS, in languages from C/C++, Python, Java, C# and various smaller languages along the way. Though the original question was around configuring the environment, I think it's best answered by looking at how a blind person would use a computer.

Some people use a talking environment, such as T. V. Raman and the Emacspeak environment mentioned in other answers. The more common solution by far is to have a screen reader which runs in the background monitoring OS activity and alerting the user via synthetic speech or a physical braille display (generally showing somewhere from 20 to 80 characters at a time). This then means a blind person can use any accessible application.

So, I personally use Visual Studio 2008 these days, and run it with very few modifications. I turn off certain features like displaying errors as I type since I find this distracting. Prior to joining Microsoft all my development was done in a standard text editor like Notepad, so once again no customisations.

It is possible to configure a screen reader to announce indentation. I personally don't use this, since Visual Studio takes care of this, and C# uses braces. But this would be very important in a language like Python where whitespace matters. Finally, Emacspeak does make use of different voices/pitches to indicate different parts of syntax (keywords, comments, identifiers, etc).

Here is another approach that works for simple and more complex use cases, that is swappable at runtime

GCC 4.9 introduces a newer C++ ABI version than your system libstdc++ has, so you need to tell the loader to use this newer version of the library by adding that path to LD_LIBRARY_PATH. Unfortunately, I cannot tell you straight off where the libstdc++ so for your GCC 4.9 installation is located, as this depends on how you configured GCC. So you need something in the style of:

How and when to use ‘async’ and ‘await’

To be honest I still think the best explanation is the one about future and promises on the Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Futures_and_promises

The basic idea is that you have a separate pool of threads that execute tasks asynchronously. When using it. The object does however make the promise that it will execute the operation at some time and give you the result when you request it. This means that it will block when you request the result and hasn't finished, but execute in the thread pool otherwise.

From there you can optimize things: some operations can be implemented async and you can optimize things like file IO and network communication by batching together subsequent requests and/or reordering them. I'm not sure if this is already in the task framework of Microsoft - but if it isn't that would be one of the first things I would add.

You can actually implement the future pattern sort-of with yields in C# 4.0. If you want to know how it works exactly, I can recommend this link that does a decent job: http://code.google.com/p/fracture/source/browse/trunk/Squared/TaskLib/ . However, if you start toying with it yourself, you will notice that you really need language support if you want to do all the cool things -- which is exactly what Microsoft did.

What does "javascript:void(0)" mean?

It means it’ll do nothing. It’s an attempt to have the link not ‘navigate’ anywhere. But it’s not the right way.

You should actually just return false in the onclick event, like so:

Typically it’s used if the link is doing some ‘JavaScript-y’ thing. Like posting an AJAX form, or swapping an image, or whatever. In that case you just make whatever function is being called return false.

To make your website completely awesome, however, generally you’ll include a link that does the same action, if the person browsing it chooses not to run JavaScript.

How do I get the dialer to open with phone number displayed?

As @ashishduh mentioned above, using android:autoLink="phone is also a good solution. But this option comes with one drawback, it doesn't work with all phone number lengths. For instance, a phone number of 11 numbers won't work with this option. The solution is to prefix your phone numbers with the country code.

Example:

08034448845 won't work

but +2348034448845 will

How to detect when a UIScrollView has finished scrolling

I had a case of tapping and dragging actions and I found out that the dragging was calling scrollViewDidEndDecelerating

And the change offset manually with code ([_scrollView setContentOffset:contentOffset animated:YES];) was calling scrollViewDidEndScrollingAnimation.
