How to debug .htaccess RewriteRule not working

Generally any change in the .htaccess should have visible effects. If no effect, check your configuration apache files, something like:

<Directory ..>
    ...
    AllowOverride None
    ...
</Directory>

Should be changed to

AllowOverride All

And you'll be able to change directives in .htaccess files.

SQL TRUNCATE DATABASE ? How to TRUNCATE ALL TABLES

Most of the solutions provided either don't use TRUNCATE, which is different from DELETE, or they don't deal with the issue of foreign key constraints. The solution provided by Chaitanya comes close, but it falls back to using DELETE, and it does it in a stored procedure, which seems to not fit a situation where you are nuking all data in a database.

So, below is my variation which does use TRUNCATE and does address the foreign key constraint problem.

    /* TRUNCATE ALL TABLES IN A DATABASE */

DECLARE @dropAndCreateConstraintsTable TABLE
        (
         DropStmt VARCHAR(MAX)
        ,CreateStmt VARCHAR(MAX)
        )
/* Gather information to drop and then recreate the current foreign key constraints */
INSERT  @dropAndCreateConstraintsTable
        SELECT  DropStmt = 'ALTER TABLE [' + ForeignKeys.ForeignTableSchema
                + '].[' + ForeignKeys.ForeignTableName + '] DROP CONSTRAINT ['
                + ForeignKeys.ForeignKeyName + ']; '
               ,CreateStmt = 'ALTER TABLE [' + ForeignKeys.ForeignTableSchema
                + '].[' + ForeignKeys.ForeignTableName
                + '] WITH CHECK ADD CONSTRAINT [' + ForeignKeys.ForeignKeyName
                + '] FOREIGN KEY([' + ForeignKeys.ForeignTableColumn
                + ']) REFERENCES [' + SCHEMA_NAME(sys.objects.schema_id)
                + '].[' + sys.objects.[name] + ']([' + sys.columns.[name]
                + ']); '
        FROM    sys.objects

Format output string, right alignment

Here is another way how you can format using 'f-string' format:

print(
    f"{'Trades:':<15}{cnt:>10}",
    f"\n{'Wins:':<15}{wins:>10}",
    f"\n{'Losses:':<15}{losses:>10}",
    f"\n{'Breakeven:':<15}{evens:>10}",
    f"\n{'Win/Loss Ratio:':<15}{win_r:>10}",
    f"\n{'Mean Win:':<15}{mean_w:>10}",
    f"\n{'Mean Loss:':<15}{mean_l:>10}",
    f"\n{'Mean:':<15}{mean_trd:>10}",
    f"\n{'Std Dev:':<15}{sd:>10}",
    f"\n{'Max Loss:':<15}{max_l:>10}",
    f"\n{'Max Win:':<15}{max_w:>10}",
    f"\n{'Sharpe Ratio:':<15}{sharpe_r:>10}",
)

This will provide the following output:

Trades:              2304
Wins:                1232
Losses:              1035
Breakeven:             37
Win/Loss Ratio:      1.19
Mean Win:           0.381
Mean Loss:         -0.395
Mean:               0.026
Std Dev:             0.56
Max Loss:          -3.406
Max Win:             4.09
Sharpe Ratio:      0.7395

What you are doing here is you are saying that the first column is 15 chars long and it's left justified and second column (values) is 10 chars long and it's right justified.

ElasticSearch - Return Unique Values

I am looking for this kind of solution for my self as well. I found reference in terms aggregation.

So, according to that following is the proper solution.

{
"aggs" : {
    "langs" : {
        "terms" : { "field" : "language",
                    "size" : 500 }
    }
}}

But if you ran into following error:

"error": {
        "root_cause": [
            {
                "type": "illegal_argument_exception",
                "reason": "Fielddata is disabled on text fields by default. Set fielddata=true on [fastest_method] in order to load fielddata in memory by uninverting the inverted index. Note that this can however use significant memory. Alternatively use a keyword field instead."
            }
        ]}

In that case, you have to add "KEYWORD" in the request, like following:

   {
    "aggs" : {
        "langs" : {
            "terms" : { "field" : "language.keyword",
                        "size" : 500 }
        }
    }}

How to get query params from url in Angular 2?

When a URL is like this http://stackoverflow.com?param1=value

You can get the param 1 by the following code:

import { Component, OnInit } from '@angular/core';
import { Router, ActivatedRoute, Params } from '@angular/router';

@Component({
    selector: '',
    templateUrl: './abc.html',
    styleUrls: ['./abc.less']
})
export class AbcComponent implements OnInit {
    constructor(private route: ActivatedRoute) { }

    ngOnInit() {
        // get param
        let param1 = this.route.snapshot.queryParams["param1"];
    }
}

Warning: push.default is unset; its implicit value is changing in Git 2.0

I was wondering why I was getting that big warning message on Ubuntu 16.04 (which comes with Git 2.7.4), but not on Arch Linux. The reason is that the warning was removed in Git 2.8 (March 2016):

Across the transition at around Git version 2.0, the user used to get a pretty loud warning when running "git push" without setting push.default configuration variable. We no longer warn because the transition was completed a long time ago.

So you won't see the warning if you have Git 2.8 and later and don't need to set push.default unless you want to change the default 'simple' behavior.

Why is there no Constant feature in Java?

This is a bit of an old question, but I thought I would contribute my 2 cents anyway since this thread came up in conversation today.

This doesn't exactly answer why is there no const? but how to make your classes immutable. (Unfortunately I have not enough reputation yet to post as a comment to the accepted answer)

The way to guarantee immutability on an object is to design your classes more carefully to be immutable. This requires a bit more care than a mutable class.

This goes back to Josh Bloch's Effective Java Item 15 - Minimize Mutability. If you haven't read the book, pick up a copy and read it over a few times I guarantee it will up your figurative "java game".

In item 15 Bloch suggest that you should limit the mutability of classes to ensure the object's state.

To quote the book directly:

An immutable class is simply a class whose instances cannot be modified. All of the information contained in each instance is provided when it is created and is fixed for the lifetime of the object. The Java platform libraries contain many immutable classes, including String, the boxed primitive classes, and BigInte- ger and BigDecimal. There are many good reasons for this: Immutable classes are easier to design, implement, and use than mutable classes. They are less prone to error and are more secure.

Bloch then describes how to make your classes immutable, by following 5 simple rules:

  1. Don’t provide any methods that modify the object’s state (i.e., setters, aka mutators)
  2. Ensure that the class can’t be extended (this means declaring the class itself as final).
  3. Make all fields final.
  4. Make all fields private.
  5. Ensure exclusive access to any mutable components. (by making defensive copies of the objects)

For more details I highly recommend picking up a copy of the book.

How can I get Git to follow symlinks?

NOTE: This advice is now out-dated as per comment since Git 1.6.1. Git used to behave this way, and no longer does.

Git by default attempts to store symlinks instead of following them (for compactness, and it's generally what people want).

However, I accidentally managed to get it to add files beyond the symlink when the symlink is a directory.

I.e.:

  /foo/
  /foo/baz
  /bar/foo --> /foo
  /bar/foo/baz

by doing

 git add /bar/foo/baz

it appeared to work when I tried it. That behavior was however unwanted by me at the time, so I can't give you information beyond that.

How do I get the directory of the PowerShell script I execute?

PowerShell 3 has the $PSScriptRoot automatic variable:

Contains the directory from which a script is being run.

In Windows PowerShell 2.0, this variable is valid only in script modules (.psm1). Beginning in Windows PowerShell 3.0, it is valid in all scripts.

Don't be fooled by the poor wording. PSScriptRoot is the directory of the current file.

In PowerShell 2, you can calculate the value of $PSScriptRoot yourself:

# PowerShell v2
$PSScriptRoot = Split-Path -Parent -Path $MyInvocation.MyCommand.Definition

Remove duplicated rows

Here's a very simple, fast dplyr/tidy solution:

Remove rows that are entirely the same:

library(dplyr)
iris %>%
  distinct(.keep_all = TRUE)

Remove rows that are the same only in certain columns:

iris %>%
  distinct(Sepal.Length, Sepal.Width, .keep_all = TRUE)

How do you make strings "XML safe"?

I prefer the way Golang does quote escaping for XML (and a few extras like newline escaping, and escaping some other characters), so I have ported its XML escape function to PHP below

function isInCharacterRange(int $r): bool {
    return $r == 0x09 ||
            $r == 0x0A ||
            $r == 0x0D ||
            $r >= 0x20 && $r <= 0xDF77 ||
            $r >= 0xE000 && $r <= 0xFFFD ||
            $r >= 0x10000 && $r <= 0x10FFFF;
}

function xml(string $s, bool $escapeNewline = true): string {
    $w = '';

    $Last = 0;
    $l = strlen($s);
    $i = 0;

    while ($i < $l) {
        $r = mb_substr(substr($s, $i), 0, 1);
        $Width = strlen($r);
        $i += $Width;
        switch ($r) {
            case '"':
                $esc = '&#34;';
                break;
            case "'":
                $esc = '&#39;';
                break;
            case '&':
                $esc = '&amp;';
                break;
            case '<':
                $esc = '&lt;';
                break;
            case '>':
                $esc = '&gt;';
                break;
            case "\t":
                $esc = '&#x9;';
                break;
            case "\n":
                if (!$escapeNewline) {
                    continue 2;
                }
                $esc = '&#xA;';
                break;
            case "\r":
                $esc = '&#xD;';
                break;
            default:
                if (!isInCharacterRange(mb_ord($r)) || (mb_ord($r) === 0xFFFD && $Width === 1)) {
                    $esc = "\u{FFFD}";
                    break;
                }

                continue 2;
        }
        $w .= substr($s, $Last, $i - $Last - $Width) . $esc;
        $Last = $i;
    }
    $w .= substr($s, $Last);
    return $w;
}

Note you'll need at least PHP7.2 because of the mb_ord usage, or you'll have to swap it out for another polyfill, but these functions are working great for us!

Download file using libcurl in C/C++

The example you are using is wrong. See the man page for easy_setopt. In the example write_data uses its own FILE, *outfile, and not the fp that was specified in CURLOPT_WRITEDATA. That's why closing fp causes problems - it's not even opened.

This is more or less what it should look like (no libcurl available here to test)

#include <stdio.h>
#include <curl/curl.h>
/* For older cURL versions you will also need
#include <curl/types.h>
#include <curl/easy.h>
*/
#include <string>

size_t write_data(void *ptr, size_t size, size_t nmemb, FILE *stream) {
    size_t written = fwrite(ptr, size, nmemb, stream);
    return written;
}

int main(void) {
    CURL *curl;
    FILE *fp;
    CURLcode res;
    char *url = "http://localhost/aaa.txt";
    char outfilename[FILENAME_MAX] = "C:\\bbb.txt";
    curl = curl_easy_init();
    if (curl) {
        fp = fopen(outfilename,"wb");
        curl_easy_setopt(curl, CURLOPT_URL, url);
        curl_easy_setopt(curl, CURLOPT_WRITEFUNCTION, write_data);
        curl_easy_setopt(curl, CURLOPT_WRITEDATA, fp);
        res = curl_easy_perform(curl);
        /* always cleanup */
        curl_easy_cleanup(curl);
        fclose(fp);
    }
    return 0;
}

Updated: as suggested by @rsethc types.h and easy.h aren't present in current cURL versions anymore.

SSL certificate is not trusted - on mobile only

The most likely reason for the error is that the certificate authority that issued your SSL certificate is trusted on your desktop, but not on your mobile.

If you purchased the certificate from a common certification authority, it shouldn't be an issue - but if it is a less common one it is possible that your phone doesn't have it. You may need to accept it as a trusted publisher (although this is not ideal if you are pushing the site to the public as they won't be willing to do this.)

You might find looking at a list of Trusted CAs for Android helps to see if yours is there or not.

What's the difference between HEAD, working tree and index, in Git?

Your working tree is what is actually in the files that you are currently working on.

HEAD is a pointer to the branch or commit that you last checked out, and which will be the parent of a new commit if you make it. For instance, if you're on the master branch, then HEAD will point to master, and when you commit, that new commit will be a descendent of the revision that master pointed to, and master will be updated to point to the new commit.

The index is a staging area where the new commit is prepared. Essentially, the contents of the index are what will go into the new commit (though if you do git commit -a, this will automatically add all changes to files that Git knows about to the index before committing, so it will commit the current contents of your working tree). git add will add or update files from the working tree into your index.

res.sendFile absolute path

Based on the other answers, this is a simple example of how to accomplish the most common requirement:

const app = express()
app.use(express.static('public')) // relative path of client-side code
app.get('*', function(req, res) {
    res.sendFile('index.html', { root: __dirname })
})
app.listen(process.env.PORT)

This also doubles as a simple way to respond with index.html on every request, because I'm using a star * to catch all files that weren't found in your static (public) directory; which is the most common use case for web-apps. Change to / to return the index only in the root path.

CSS Change List Item Background Color with Class

1) You can use the !important rule, like this:

.selected
{
  background-color:red !important;
}

See http://www.w3.org/TR/CSS2/cascade.html#important-rules for more info.

2) In your example you can also get the red background by using ul.nav li.selected instead of just .selected. This makes the selector more specific.

See http://www.w3.org/TR/CSS2/cascade.html#specificity for more info.

Differences between C++ string == and compare()?

std::string::compare() returns an int:

  • equal to zero if s and t are equal,
  • less than zero if s is less than t,
  • greater than zero if s is greater than t.

If you want your first code snippet to be equivalent to the second one, it should actually read:

if (!s.compare(t)) {
    // 's' and 't' are equal.
}

The equality operator only tests for equality (hence its name) and returns a bool.

To elaborate on the use cases, compare() can be useful if you're interested in how the two strings relate to one another (less or greater) when they happen to be different. PlasmaHH rightfully mentions trees, and it could also be, say, a string insertion algorithm that aims to keep the container sorted, a dichotomic search algorithm for the aforementioned container, and so on.

EDIT: As Steve Jessop points out in the comments, compare() is most useful for quick sort and binary search algorithms. Natural sorts and dichotomic searches can be implemented with only std::less.

How to use SortedMap interface in Java?

How to export data from Excel spreadsheet to Sql Server 2008 table

In SQL Server 2016 the wizard is a separate app. (Important: Excel wizard is only available in the 32-bit version of the wizard!). Use the MSDN page for instructions:

On the Start menu, point to All Programs, point toMicrosoft SQL Server , and then click Import and Export Data.
—or—
In SQL Server Data Tools (SSDT), right-click the SSIS Packages folder, and then click SSIS Import and Export Wizard.
—or—
In SQL Server Data Tools (SSDT), on the Project menu, click SSIS Import and Export Wizard.
—or—
In SQL Server Management Studio, connect to the Database Engine server type, expand Databases, right-click a database, point to Tasks, and then click Import Data or Export data.
—or—
In a command prompt window, run DTSWizard.exe, located in C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\DTS\Binn.

After that it should be pretty much the same (possibly with minor variations in the UI) as in @marc_s's answer.

Nested or Inner Class in PHP

As per Xenon's comment to Anil Özselgin's answer, anonymous classes have been implemented in PHP 7.0, which is as close to nested classes as you'll get right now. Here are the relevant RFCs:

Nested Classes (status: withdrawn)

Anonymous Classes (status: implemented in PHP 7.0)

An example to the original post, this is what your code would look like:

<?php
    public class User {
        public $userid;
        public $username;
        private $password;

        public $profile;
        public $history;

        public function __construct() {
            $this->profile = new class {
                // Some code here for user profile
            }

            $this->history = new class {
                // Some code here for user history
            }
        }
    }
?>

This, though, comes with a very nasty caveat. If you use an IDE such as PHPStorm or NetBeans, and then add a method like this to the User class:

public function foo() {
  $this->profile->...
}

...bye bye auto-completion. This is the case even if you code to interfaces (the I in SOLID), using a pattern like this:

<?php
    public class User {
        public $profile;

        public function __construct() {
            $this->profile = new class implements UserProfileInterface {
                // Some code here for user profile
            }
        }
    }
?>

Unless your only calls to $this->profile are from the __construct() method (or whatever method $this->profile is defined in) then you won't get any sort of type hinting. Your property is essentially "hidden" to your IDE, making life very hard if you rely on your IDE for auto-completion, code smell sniffing, and refactoring.

How to get database structure in MySQL via query

A variation of the first answer that I found useful

Open your command prompt and enter (you dont have to be logged into your mysql server)

mysqldump -hlocalhost -u<root> -p<password>  <dbname>  --compact --no-data > </path_to_mydump/>mysql.dmp

Difference between matches() and find() in Java Regex

matches return true if the whole string matches the given pattern. find tries to find a substring that matches the pattern.

How to detect a docker daemon port

Reference docs of docker: https://docs.docker.com/install/linux/linux-postinstall/#configure-where-the-docker-daemon-listens-for-connections

There are 2 ways in configuring the docker daemon port

1) Configuring at /etc/default/docker file:

DOCKER_OPTS="-H tcp://127.0.0.1:5000 -H unix:///var/run/docker.sock"

2) Configuring at /etc/docker/daemon.json:

{
"debug": true,
"hosts": ["tcp://127.0.0.1:5000", "unix:///var/run/docker.sock"]
}

If the docker default socket is not configured Docker will wait for infinite period.i.e

Waiting for /var/run/docker.sock
Waiting for /var/run/docker.sock
Waiting for /var/run/docker.sock
Waiting for /var/run/docker.sock
Waiting for /var/run/docker.sock

NOTE : BUT DON'T CONFIGURE IN BOTH THE CONFIGURATION FILES, the following error may occur :

Waiting for /var/run/docker.sock
unable to configure the Docker daemon with file /etc/docker/daemon.json: the following directives are specified both as a flag and in the configuration file: hosts: (from flag: [tcp://127.0.0.1:5000 unix:///var/run/docker.sock], from file: tcp://127.0.0.1:5000)

The reason for adding both the user port[ tcp://127.0.0.1:5000] and default docker socket[unix:///var/run/docker.sock] is that the user port enables the access to the docker APIs whereas the default socket enables the CLI. In case the default port[unix:///var/run/docker.sock] is not mentioned in /etc/default/docker file the following error may occur:

# docker ps
Cannot connect to the Docker daemon at unix:///var/run/docker.sock. Is the docker daemon running?

This error is not because that the docker is not running, but because of default docker socket is not enabled.

Once the configuration is enabled restart the docker service and verify the docker port is enabled or not:

# netstat -tunlp | grep -i 5000
tcp        0      0 127.0.0.1:5000          0.0.0.0:*               LISTEN      31661/dockerd

Applicable for Docker Version 17.04, may vary with different versions of docker.

pandas get rows which are NOT in other dataframe

One method would be to store the result of an inner merge form both dfs, then we can simply select the rows when one column's values are not in this common:

In [119]:

common = df1.merge(df2,on=['col1','col2'])
print(common)
df1[(~df1.col1.isin(common.col1))&(~df1.col2.isin(common.col2))]
   col1  col2
0     1    10
1     2    11
2     3    12
Out[119]:
   col1  col2
3     4    13
4     5    14

EDIT

Another method as you've found is to use isin which will produce NaN rows which you can drop:

In [138]:

df1[~df1.isin(df2)].dropna()
Out[138]:
   col1  col2
3     4    13
4     5    14

However if df2 does not start rows in the same manner then this won't work:

df2 = pd.DataFrame(data = {'col1' : [2, 3,4], 'col2' : [11, 12,13]})

will produce the entire df:

In [140]:

df1[~df1.isin(df2)].dropna()
Out[140]:
   col1  col2
0     1    10
1     2    11
2     3    12
3     4    13
4     5    14

How To Use DateTimePicker In WPF?

There is no out of the box DateTime picker for WPF..

There are however a lot of third party DateTime pickers of course :)

Installing PDO driver on MySQL Linux server

At first install necessary PDO parts by running the command

`sudo apt-get install php*-mysql`

where * is a version name of php like 5.6, 7.0, 7.1, 7.2

After installation you need to mention these two statements

extension=pdo.so
extension=pdo_mysql.so

in your .ini file (uncomment if it is already there) and restart server by command

sudo service apache2 restart

Java8: sum values from specific field of the objects in a list

Try:

int sum = lst.stream().filter(o -> o.field > 10).mapToInt(o -> o.field).sum();

Using request.setAttribute in a JSP page

No. Unfortunately the Request object is only available until the page finishes loading - once it's complete, you'll lose all values in it unless they've been stored somewhere.

If you want to persist attributes through requests you need to either:

  1. Have a hidden input in your form, such as <input type="hidden" name="myhiddenvalue" value="<%= request.getParameter("value") %>" />. This will then be available in the servlet as a request parameter.
  2. Put it in the session (see request.getSession() - in a JSP this is available as simply session)

I recommend using the Session as it's easier to manage.

How can I adjust DIV width to contents

EDIT2- Yea auto fills the DOM SOZ!

#img_box{
    width:90%;
    height:90%;
    min-width: 400px;
    min-height: 400px;
}

Removed original answer because it was wrong.

The width is ok- but the height resets to 0

so

 min-height: 400px;

SASS - use variables across multiple files

Create an index.scss and there you can import all file structure you have. I will paste you my index from an enterprise project, maybe it will help other how to structure files in css:

@import 'base/_reset';

@import 'helpers/_variables';
@import 'helpers/_mixins';
@import 'helpers/_functions';
@import 'helpers/_helpers';
@import 'helpers/_placeholders';

@import 'base/_typography';

@import 'pages/_versions';
@import 'pages/_recording';
@import 'pages/_lists';
@import 'pages/_global';

@import 'forms/_buttons';
@import 'forms/_inputs';
@import 'forms/_validators';
@import 'forms/_fieldsets';

@import 'sections/_header';
@import 'sections/_navigation';
@import 'sections/_sidebar-a';
@import 'sections/_sidebar-b';
@import 'sections/_footer';

@import 'vendors/_ui-grid';

@import 'components/_modals';
@import 'components/_tooltip';
@import 'components/_tables';
@import 'components/_datepickers';

And you can watch them with gulp/grunt/webpack etc, like:

gulpfile.js

// SASS Task

var gulp = require('gulp');
var sass = require('gulp-sass');
//var concat = require('gulp-concat');
var uglifycss = require('gulp-uglifycss');
var sourcemaps = require('gulp-sourcemaps');

gulp.task('styles', function(){
    return gulp
            .src('sass/**/*.scss')
            .pipe(sourcemaps.init())
            .pipe(sass().on('error', sass.logError))
            .pipe(concat('styles.css'))
            .pipe(uglifycss({
                "maxLineLen": 80,
                "uglyComments": true
            }))
            .pipe(sourcemaps.write('.'))
            .pipe(gulp.dest('./build/css/'));
});

gulp.task('watch', function () {
    gulp.watch('sass/**/*.scss', ['styles']);
});

gulp.task('default', ['watch']);

How to parse a query string into a NameValueCollection in .NET

HttpUtility.ParseQueryString(Request.Url.Query) return is HttpValueCollection (internal class). It inherits from NameValueCollection.

    var qs = HttpUtility.ParseQueryString(Request.Url.Query);
    qs.Remove("foo");

    string url = "~/Default.aspx";
    if (qs.Count > 0)
       url = url + "?" + qs.ToString();

    Response.Redirect(url);

Convert from DateTime to INT

EDIT: Casting to a float/int no longer works in recent versions of SQL Server. Use the following instead:

select datediff(day, '1899-12-30T00:00:00', my_date_field)
from mytable

Note the string date should be in an unambiguous date format so that it isn't affected by your server's regional settings.

In older versions of SQL Server, you can convert from a DateTime to an Integer by casting to a float, then to an int:

select cast(cast(my_date_field as float) as int)
from mytable

(NB: You can't cast straight to an int, as MSSQL rounds the value up if you're past mid day!)

If there's an offset in your data, you can obviously add or subtract this from the result

You can convert in the other direction, by casting straight back:

select cast(my_integer_date as datetime)
from mytable

How to know what the 'errno' means?

Instead of running perror on any error code you get, you can retrieve a complete listing of errno values on your system with the following one-liner:

cpp -dM /usr/include/errno.h | grep 'define E' | sort -n -k 3

javascript Unable to get property 'value' of undefined or null reference

You can't access element like you did (document.frm_new_user_request). You have to use the function getElementById:

document.getElementById("frm_new_user_request")

So getting a value from an input could look like this:

var value = document.getElementById("frm_new_user_request").value

Also you can use some JavaScript framework, e.g. jQuery, which simplifies operations with DOM (Document Object Model) and also hides differences between various browsers from you.

Getting a value from an input using jQuery would look like this:

  • input with ID "element": var value = $("#element).value
  • input with class "element": var value = $(".element).value

How to index into a dictionary?

Addressing an element of dictionary is like sitting on donkey and enjoy the ride.

As a rule of Python, a DICTIONARY is orderless

If there is

dic = {1: "a", 2: "aa", 3: "aaa"}

Now suppose if I go like dic[10] = "b", then it will not add like this always

dic = {1:"a",2:"aa",3:"aaa",10:"b"}

It may be like

dic = {1: "a", 2: "aa", 3: "aaa", 10: "b"}

Or

dic = {1: "a", 2: "aa", 10: "b", 3: "aaa"}

Or

dic = {1: "a", 10: "b", 2: "aa", 3: "aaa"}

Or any such combination.

So a rule of thumb is that a DICTIONARY is orderless!

How to remove whitespace from a string in typescript?

Trim just removes the trailing and leading whitespace. Use .replace(/ /g, "") if there are just spaces to be replaced.

this.maintabinfo = this.inner_view_data.replace(/ /g, "").toLowerCase();

how to get the one entry from hashmap without iterating

What do you mean with "without iterating"?

You can use map.entrySet().iterator().next() and you wouldn't iterate through map (in the meaning of "touching each object"). You can't get hold of an Entry<K, V> without using an iterator though. The Javadoc of Map.Entry says:

The Map.entrySet method returns a collection-view of the map, whose elements are of this class. The only way to obtain a reference to a map entry is from the iterator of this collection-view. These Map.Entry objects are valid only for the duration of the iteration.

Can you explain in more detail, what you are trying to accomplish? If you want to handle objects first, that match a specific criterion (like "have a particular key") and fall back to the remaining objects otherwise, then look at a PriorityQueue. It will order your objects based on natural order or a custom-defined Comparator that you provide.

MVC4 DataType.Date EditorFor won't display date value in Chrome, fine in Internet Explorer

In MVC5.2, add Date.cshtml to folder ~/Views/Shared/EditorTemplates:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function mysqli_connect()

So this may not be the issue for you, but I was struggling with this error. I discovered what was causing my problem, though I can't really explain as to why.

For me, mysqli_connect was working fine where the connection was made on pages in any various sub-directory. For some reason though, the same code referenced on pages in the root directory was returning this error. The strange thing is that it was working fine on my localhost environment in MAMP in the root directory, however on my shared host it was not.

After struggling to figure out what was giving me "Error 500" white screen from this "PHP Fatal Error," I went through the code and stumbled upon this code in the error handling that was suggested by the PHP Manual (https://www.php.net/manual/en/mysqli.error.php).

if (!mysqli_query($link, "SET a=1")) {
    printf("Error message: %s\n", mysqli_error($link));
}

I randomly decided to remove it and, voila, connection to the database working in root directories. Maybe someone smarter than me can explain this, for anyone struggling with a similar issue.

Oracle SQL Where clause to find date records older than 30 days

Use:

SELECT *
  FROM YOUR_TABLE
 WHERE creation_date <= TRUNC(SYSDATE) - 30

SYSDATE returns the date & time; TRUNC resets the date to being as of midnight so you can omit it if you want the creation_date that is 30 days previous including the current time.

Depending on your needs, you could also look at using ADD_MONTHS:

SELECT *
  FROM YOUR_TABLE
 WHERE creation_date <= ADD_MONTHS(TRUNC(SYSDATE), -1)

CSS Cell Margin

You can use both of them:

padding-right:10px;

padding-right:10%;

But it's better to use with %.

Using Tkinter in python to edit the title bar

Having just done this myself you can do it this way:

from tkinter import Tk, Button, Frame, Entry, END

class ABC(Frame):
    def __init__(self, parent=None):
        Frame.__init__(self, parent)
        self.parent = parent
        self.pack()
        ABC.make_widgets(self)

    def make_widgets(self):
        self.parent.title("Simple Prog")

You will see the title change, and you won't get two windows. I've left my parent as master as in the Tkinter reference stuff in the python library documentation.

Handling Dialogs in WPF with MVVM

You should use a mediator for this. Mediator is a common design pattern also known as Messenger in some of its implementations. It's a paradigm of type Register/Notify and enables your ViewModel and Views to communicate through a low-coupled messaging mecanism.

You should check out the google WPF Disciples group, and just search for Mediator. You will be much happy with the answers...

You can however start with this:

http://joshsmithonwpf.wordpress.com/2009/04/06/a-mediator-prototype-for-wpf-apps/

Enjoy !

Edit: you can see the answer to this problem with the MVVM Light Toolkit here:

This is really the same solution as faester's solution and Bill Moon's, but here's how you do it with PowerShell:

Of course, there's nothing stopping you from calling DISM from PowerShell either.

Count character occurrences in a string in C++

Old-fashioned solution with appropriately named variables. This gives the code some spirit.

#include <cstdio>
int _(char*__){int ___=0;while(*__)___='_'==*__++?___+1:___;return ___;}int main(){char*__="_la_blba_bla__bla___";printf("The string \"%s\" contains %d _ characters\n",__,_(__));}

Edit: about 8 years later, looking at this answer I'm ashamed I did this (even though I justified it to myself as a snarky poke at a low-effort question). This is toxic and not OK. I'm not removing the post; I'm adding this apology to help shifting the atmosphere on StackOverflow. So OP: I apologize and I hope you got your homework right despite my trolling and that answers like mine did not discourage you from participating on the site.

Command output redirect to file and terminal

It is worth mentioning that 2>&1 means that standard error will be redirected too, together with standard output. So

someCommand | tee someFile

gives you just the standard output in the file, but not the standard error: standard error will appear in console only. To get standard error in the file too, you can use

someCommand 2>&1 | tee someFile

(source: In the shell, what is " 2>&1 "? ). Finally, both the above commands will truncate the file and start clear. If you use a sequence of commands, you may want to get output&error of all of them, one after another. In this case you can use -a flag to "tee" command:

someCommand 2>&1 | tee -a someFile

Convert blob URL to normal URL

another way to create a data url from blob url may be using canvas.

var canvas = document.createElement("canvas")
var context = canvas.getContext("2d")
context.drawImage(img, 0, 0) // i assume that img.src is your blob url
var dataurl = canvas.toDataURL("your prefer type", your prefer quality)

as what i saw in mdn, canvas.toDataURL is supported well by browsers. (except ie<9, always ie<9)

Binary search (bisection) in Python

Simplest is to use bisect and check one position back to see if the item is there:

def binary_search(a,x,lo=0,hi=-1):
    i = bisect(a,x,lo,hi)
    if i == 0:
        return -1
    elif a[i-1] == x:
        return i-1
    else:
        return -1

Why javascript getTime() is not a function?

For all those who came here and did indeed use Date typed Variables, here is the solution I found. It does also apply to TypeScript.

I was facing this error because I tried to compare two dates using the following Method

var res = dat1.getTime() > dat2.getTime(); // or any other comparison operator

However Im sure I used a Date object, because Im using angularjs with typescript, and I got the data from a typed API call.

Im not sure why the error is raised, but I assume that because my Object was created by JSON deserialisation, possibly the getTime() method was simply not added to the prototype.

Solution

In this case, recreating a date-Object based on your dates will fix the issue.

var res = new Date(dat1).getTime() > new Date(dat2).getTime()

Edit:

I was right about this. Types will be cast to the according type but they wont be instanciated. Hence there will be a string cast to a date, which will obviously result in a runtime exception.

The trick is, if you use interfaces with non primitive only data such as dates or functions, you will need to perform a mapping after your http request.

class Details {
    description: string;
    date: Date;
    score: number;
    approved: boolean;

    constructor(data: any) {
      Object.assign(this, data);
    }
}

and to perform the mapping:

public getDetails(id: number): Promise<Details> {
    return this.http
               .get<Details>(`${this.baseUrl}/api/details/${id}`)
               .map(response => new Details(response.json()))
               .toPromise();
}

for arrays use:

public getDetails(): Promise<Details[]> {
    return this.http
               .get<Details>(`${this.baseUrl}/api/details`)
               .map(response => {
                   const array = JSON.parse(response.json()) as any[];
                   const details = array.map(data => new Details(data));
                   return details;
               })
               .toPromise();
}

import .css file into .less file

since 1.5.0 u can use the 'inline' keyword.

Example: @import (inline) "not-less-compatible.css";

You will use this when a CSS file may not be Less compatible; this is because although Less supports most known standards CSS, it does not support comments in some places and does not support all known CSS hacks without modifying the CSS. So you can use this to include the file in the output so that all CSS will be in one file.

SQL server ignore case in a where expression

The top 2 answers (from Adam Robinson and Andrejs Cainikovs) are kinda, sorta correct, in that they do technically work, but their explanations are wrong and so could be misleading in many cases. For example, while the SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS collation will work in many cases, it should not be assumed to be the appropriate case-insensitive collation. In fact, given that the O.P. is working in a database with a case-sensitive (or possibly binary) collation, we know that the O.P. isn't using the collation that is the default for so many installations (especially any installed on an OS using US English as the language): SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS. Sure, the O.P. could be using SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CS_AS, but when working with VARCHAR data, it is important to not change the code page as it could lead to data loss, and that is controlled by the locale / culture of the collation (i.e. Latin1_General vs French vs Hebrew etc). Please see point # 9 below.

The other four answers are wrong to varying degrees.

I will clarify all of the misunderstandings here so that readers can hopefully make the most appropriate / efficient choices.

  1. Do not use UPPER(). That is completely unnecessary extra work. Use a COLLATE clause. A string comparison needs to be done in either case, but using UPPER() also has to check, character by character, to see if there is an upper-case mapping, and then change it. And you need to do this on both sides. Adding COLLATE simply directs the processing to generate the sort keys using a different set of rules than it was going to by default. Using COLLATE is definitely more efficient (or "performant", if you like that word :) than using UPPER(), as proven in this test script (on PasteBin).

    There is also the issue noted by @Ceisc on @Danny's answer:

    In some languages case conversions do not round-trip. i.e. LOWER(x) != LOWER(UPPER(x)).

    The Turkish upper-case "I" is the common example.

  2. No, collation is not a database-wide setting, at least not in this context. There is a database-level default collation, and it is used as the default for altered and newly created columns that do not specify the COLLATE clause (which is likely where this common misconception comes from), but it does not impact queries directly unless you are comparing string literals and variables to other string literals and variables, or you are referencing database-level meta-data.

  3. No, collation is not per query.

  4. Collations are per predicate (i.e. something operand something) or expression, not per query. And this is true for the entire query, not just the WHERE clause. This covers JOINs, GROUP BY, ORDER BY, PARTITION BY, etc.

  5. No, do not convert to VARBINARY (e.g.convert(varbinary, myField) = convert(varbinary, 'sOmeVal')) for the following reasons:

    1. that is a binary comparison, which is not case-insensitive (which is what this question is asking for)
    2. if you do want a binary comparison, use a binary collation. Use one that ends with _BIN2 if you are using SQL Server 2008 or newer, else you have no choice but to use one that ends with _BIN. If the data is NVARCHAR then it doesn't matter which locale you use as they are all the same in that case, hence Latin1_General_100_BIN2 always works. If the data is VARCHAR, you must use the same locale that the data is currently in (e.g. Latin1_General, French, Japanese_XJIS, etc) because the locale determines the code page that is used, and changing code pages can alter the data (i.e. data loss).
    3. using a variable-length datatype without specifying the size will rely on the default size, and there are two different defaults depending on the context where the datatype is being used. It is either 1 or 30 for string types. When used with CONVERT() it will use the 30 default value. The danger is, if the string can be over 30 bytes, it will get silently truncated and you will likely get incorrect results from this predicate.
    4. Even if you want a case-sensitive comparison, binary collations are not case-sensitive (another very common misconception).
  6. No, LIKE is not always case-sensitive. It uses the collation of the column being referenced, or the collation of the database if a variable is compared to a string literal, or the collation specified via the optional COLLATE clause.

  7. LCASE is not a SQL Server function. It appears to be either Oracle or MySQL. Or possibly Visual Basic?

  8. Since the context of the question is comparing a column to a string literal, neither the collation of the instance (often referred to as "server") nor the collation of the database have any direct impact here. Collations are stored per each column, and each column can have a different collation, and those collations don't need to be the same as the database's default collation or the instance's collation. Sure, the instance collation is the default for what a newly created database will use as its default collation if the COLLATE clause wasn't specified when creating the database. And likewise, the database's default collation is what an altered or newly created column will use if the COLLATE clause wasn't specified.

  9. You should use the case-insensitive collation that is otherwise the same as the collation of the column. Use the following query to find the column's collation (change the table's name and schema name):

    SELECT col.*
    FROM   sys.columns col
    WHERE  col.[object_id] = OBJECT_ID(N'dbo.TableName')
    AND    col.[collation_name] IS NOT NULL;

    Then just change the _CS to be _CI. So, Latin1_General_100_CS_AS would become Latin1_General_100_CI_AS.

    If the column is using a binary collation (ending in _BIN or _BIN2), then find a similar collation using the following query:

    SELECT *
    FROM   sys.fn_helpcollations() col
    WHERE  col.[name] LIKE N'{CurrentCollationMinus"_BIN"}[_]CI[_]%';

    For example, assuming the column is using Japanese_XJIS_100_BIN2, do this:

    SELECT *
    FROM   sys.fn_helpcollations() col
    WHERE  col.[name] LIKE N'Japanese_XJIS_100[_]CI[_]%';

Global variables in Javascript across multiple files

OK, guys, here's my little test too. I had a similar problem, so I decided to test out 3 situations:

  1. One HTML file, one external JS file... does it work at all - can functions communicate via a global var?
  2. Two HTML files, one external JS file, one browser, two tabs: will they interfere via the global var?
  3. One HTML file, open by 2 browsers, will it work and will they interfere?

All the results were as expected.

  1. It works. Functions f1() and f2() communicate via global var (var is in the external JS file, not in HTML file).
  2. They do not interfere. Apparently distinct copies of JS file have been made for each browser tab, each HTML page.
  3. All works independently, as expected.

Instead of browsing tutorials, I found it easier to try it out, so I did. My conclusion: whenever you include an external JS file in your HTML page, the contents of the external JS gets "copy/pasted" into your HTML page before the page is rendered. Or into your PHP page if you will. Please correct me if I'm wrong here. Thanx.

My example files follow:

EXTERNAL JS:

var global = 0;

function f1()
{
    alert('fired: f1');
    global = 1;
    alert('global changed to 1');
}

function f2()
{
    alert('fired f2');
    alert('value of global: '+global);
}

HTML 1:

</html>

Java Pass Method as Parameter

In Java 8, you can now pass a method more easily using Lambda Expressions and Method References. First, some background: a functional interface is an interface that has one and only one abstract method, although it can contain any number of default methods (new in Java 8) and static methods. A lambda expression can quickly implement the abstract method, without all the unnecessary syntax needed if you don't use a lambda expression.

Without lambda expressions:

obj.aMethod(new AFunctionalInterface() {
    @Override
    public boolean anotherMethod(int i)
    {
        return i == 982
    }
});

With lambda expressions:

obj.aMethod(i -> i == 982);

Here is an excerpt from the Java tutorial on Lambda Expressions:

Syntax of Lambda Expressions

A lambda expression consists of the following:

  • A comma-separated list of formal parameters enclosed in parentheses. The CheckPerson.test method contains one parameter, p, which represents an instance of the Person class.

    Note: You can omit the data type of the parameters in a lambda expression. In addition, you can omit the parentheses if there is only one parameter. For example, the following lambda expression is also valid:

    p -> p.getGender() == Person.Sex.MALE
        && p.getAge() >= 18
        && p.getAge() <= 25

  • The arrow token, ->

  • A body, which consists of a single expression or a statement block. This example uses the following expression:

    p.getGender() == Person.Sex.MALE
        && p.getAge() >= 18
        && p.getAge() <= 25

    If you specify a single expression, then the Java runtime evaluates the expression and then returns its value. Alternatively, you can use a return statement:

    p -> {
        return p.getGender() == Person.Sex.MALE
            && p.getAge() >= 18
            && p.getAge() <= 25;
    }

    A return statement is not an expression; in a lambda expression, you must enclose statements in braces ({}). However, you do not have to enclose a void method invocation in braces. For example, the following is a valid lambda expression:

    email -> System.out.println(email)

Note that a lambda expression looks a lot like a method declaration; you can consider lambda expressions as anonymous methods—methods without a name.

Here is how you can "pass a method" using a lambda expression:

interface I {
    public void myMethod(Component component);
}

class A {
    public void changeColor(Component component) {
        // code here
    }

    public void changeSize(Component component) {
        // code here
    }
}
class B {
    public void setAllComponents(Component[] myComponentArray, I myMethodsInterface) {
        for(Component leaf : myComponentArray) {
            if(leaf instanceof Container) { // recursive call if Container
                Container node = (Container)leaf;
                setAllComponents(node.getComponents(), myMethodInterface);
            } // end if node
            myMethodsInterface.myMethod(leaf);
        } // end looping through components
    }
}
class C {
    A a = new A();
    B b = new B();

    public C() {
        b.setAllComponents(this.getComponents(), component -> a.changeColor(component));
        b.setAllComponents(this.getComponents(), component -> a.changeSize(component));
    }
}

Class C can be shortened even a bit further by the use of method references like so:

class C {
    A a = new A();
    B b = new B();

    public C() {
        b.setAllComponents(this.getComponents(), a::changeColor);
        b.setAllComponents(this.getComponents(), a::changeSize);
    }
}

jquery function val() is not equivalent to "$(this).value="?

You want:

this.value = ''; // straight JS, no jQuery

or

$(this).val(''); // jQuery

With $(this).value = '' you're assigning an empty string as the value property of the jQuery object that wraps this -- not the value of this itself.

Maximum number of rows in an MS Access database engine table?

Some comments:

  1. Jet/ACE files are organized in data pages, which means there is a certain amount of slack space when your record boundaries are not aligned with your data pages.

  2. Row-level locking will greatly reduce the number of possible records, since it forces one record per data page.

  3. In Jet 4, the data page size was increased to 4KBs (from 2KBs in Jet 3.x). As Jet 4 was the first Jet version to support Unicode, this meant that you could store 1GB of double-byte data (i.e., 1,000,000,000 double-byte characters), and with Unicode compression turned on, 2GBs of data. So, the number of records is going to be affected by whether or not you have Unicode compression on.

  4. Since we don't know how much room in a Jet/ACE file is taken up by headers and other metadata, nor precisely how much room index storage takes, the theoretical calculation is always going to be under what is practical.

  5. To get the most efficient possible storage, you'd want to use code to create your database rather than the Access UI, because Access creates certain properties that pure Jet does not need. This is not to say there are a lot of these, as properties set to the Access defaults are usually not set at all (the property is created only when you change it from the default value -- this can be seen by cycling through a field's properties collection, i.e., many of the properties listed for a field in the Access table designer are not there in the properties collection because they haven't been set), but you might want to limit yourself to Jet-specific data types (hyperlink fields are Access-only, for instance).

I just wasted an hour mucking around with this using Rnd() to populate 4 fields defined as type byte, with composite PK on the four fields, and it took forever to append enough records to get up to any significant portion of 2GBs. At over 2 million records, the file was under 80MBs. I finally quit after reaching just 700K 7 MILLION records and the file compacted to 184MBs. The amount of time it would take to get up near 2GBs is just more than I'm willing to invest!

How to read keyboard-input?

Non-blocking, multi-threaded example:

As blocking on keyboard input (since the input() function blocks) is frequently not what we want to do (we'd frequently like to keep doing other stuff), here's a very-stripped-down multi-threaded example to demonstrate how to keep running your main application while still reading in keyboard inputs whenever they arrive.

This works by creating one thread to run in the background, continually calling input() and then passing any data it receives to a queue.

In this way, your main thread is left to do anything it wants, receiving the keyboard input data from the first thread whenever there is something in the queue.

1. Bare Python 3 code example (no comments):

import threading
import queue
import time

def read_kbd_input(inputQueue):
    print('Ready for keyboard input:')
    while (True):
        input_str = input()
        inputQueue.put(input_str)

def main():
    EXIT_COMMAND = "exit"
    inputQueue = queue.Queue()

    inputThread = threading.Thread(target=read_kbd_input, args=(inputQueue,), daemon=True)
    inputThread.start()

    while (True):
        if (inputQueue.qsize() > 0):
            input_str = inputQueue.get()
            print("input_str = {}".format(input_str))

            if (input_str == EXIT_COMMAND):
                print("Exiting serial terminal.")
                break

            # Insert your code here to do whatever you want with the input_str.

        # The rest of your program goes here.

        time.sleep(0.01)
    print("End.")

if (__name__ == '__main__'):
    main()

The Python Queue library is thread-safe:

Note that Queue.put() and Queue.get() and other Queue class methods are thread-safe! That means they implement all the internal locking semantics required for inter-thread operations, so each function call in the queue class can be considered as a single, atomic operation. See the notes at the top of the documentation: https://docs.python.org/3/library/queue.html (emphasis added):

The queue module implements multi-producer, multi-consumer queues. It is especially useful in threaded programming when information must be exchanged safely between multiple threads. The Queue class in this module implements all the required locking semantics.

How to debug a bash script?

This answer is valid and useful: https://stackoverflow.com/a/951352

But, I find that the "standard" script debugging methods are inefficient, unintuitive, and hard to use. For those used to sophisticated GUI debuggers that put everything at your fingertips and make the job a breeze for easy problems (and possible for hard problems), these solutions aren't very satisfactory.

What I do is use a combination of DDD and bashdb. The former executes the latter, and the latter executes your script. This provides a multi-window UI with the ability to step through code in context and view variables, stack, etc., without the constant mental effort to maintain context in your head or keep re-listing the source.

There is guidance on setting that up here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=660223

import matplotlib.pyplot as plt

N = 10
data = np.random.random((N, 4))
labels = ['point{0}'.format(i) for i in range(N)]

plt.subplots_adjust(bottom = 0.1)
plt.scatter(
    data[:, 0], data[:, 1], marker='o', c=data[:, 2], s=data[:, 3] * 1500,
    cmap=plt.get_cmap('Spectral'))

for label, x, y in zip(labels, data[:, 0], data[:, 1]):
    plt.annotate(
        label,
        xy=(x, y), xytext=(-20, 20),
        textcoords='offset points', ha='right', va='bottom',
        bbox=dict(boxstyle='round,pad=0.5', fc='yellow', alpha=0.5),
        arrowprops=dict(arrowstyle = '->', connectionstyle='arc3,rad=0'))

UPDATE totals
   SET total = total + 1
WHERE name = 'bill';

If you want to make sure the current value is indeed 203 (and not accidently increase it again) you can also add another condition:

UPDATE totals
   SET total = total + 1
WHERE name = 'bill'
  AND total = 203;

Can typescript export a function?

It's hard to tell what you're going for in that example. exports = is about exporting from external modules, but the code sample you linked is an internal module.

Rule of thumb: If you write module foo { ... }, you're writing an internal module; if you write export something something at top-level in a file, you're writing an external module. It's somewhat rare that you'd actually write export module foo at top-level (since then you'd be double-nesting the name), and it's even rarer that you'd write module foo in a file that had a top-level export (since foo would not be externally visible).

The following things make sense (each scenario delineated by a horizontal rule):

// An internal module named SayHi with an exported function 'foo'
module SayHi {
    export function foo() {
       console.log("Hi");
    }

    export class bar { }
}

// N.B. this line could be in another file that has a
// <reference> tag to the file that has 'module SayHi' in it
SayHi.foo();
var b = new SayHi.bar();

file1.ts

// This *file* is an external module because it has a top-level 'export'
export function foo() {
    console.log('hi');
}

export class bar { }

file2.ts

// This file is also an external module because it has an 'import' declaration
import f1 = module('file1');
f1.foo();
var b = new f1.bar();

file1.ts

// This will only work in 0.9.0+. This file is an external
// module because it has a top-level 'export'
function f() { }
function g() { }
export = { alpha: f, beta: g };

file2.ts

// This file is also an external module because it has an 'import' declaration
import f1 = require('file1');
f1.alpha(); // invokes f
f1.beta(); // invokes g

jQuery hover and class selector

If someone reads the original question to mean that they want to dynamically change the hover css and not just change the base css rule for the element, I've found this to work:

I have a dynamically loaded page that requires me to find out how high the container becomes after data is loaded. Once loaded, I want to change the hover effect of the css so that an element covers the resulting container. I need to change the css .daymark:hover rule to have a new height. This is how...

function changeAttr(attrName,changeThis,toThis){
    var mysheet=document.styleSheets[1], targetrule;
    var myrules=mysheet.cssRules? mysheet.cssRules: mysheet.rules;

    for (i=0; i<myrules.length; i++){
        if(myrules[i].selectorText.toLowerCase()==".daymark:hover"){ //find "a:hover" rule
            targetrule=myrules[i];
            break;
        }
    }
    switch(changeThis)
    {
        case "height":
            targetrule.style.height=toThis+"px";
            break;
        case "width":
            targetrule.style.width=toThis+"px";
            break;
    }

}

What does "Content-type: application/json; charset=utf-8" really mean?

Dart http's implementation process the bytes thanks to that "charset=utf-8", so i'm sure several implementations out there supports this, to avoid the "latin-1" fallback charset when reading the bytes from the response. In my case, I totally lose format on the response body string, so I have to do the bytes encoding manually to utf8, or add that header "inner" parameter on my server's API response.

Detect if a page has a vertical scrollbar?

I tried the previous answer and doesn't seem to be working the $("body").height() does not necessarily represent the whole html height.

I have corrected the solution as follows:

// Check if body height is higher than window height :)
if ($(document).height() > $(window).height()) {
    alert("Vertical Scrollbar! D:");
}

// Check if body width is higher than window width :)
if ($(document).width() > $(window).width()) {
    alert("Horizontal Scrollbar! D:<");
}

ios Upload Image and Text using HTTP POST

            let str = "https://staging.mywebsite.com/V2.9/uploadfile"
            let request = NSMutableURLRequest(URL: NSURL(string:str)!)
            request.HTTPMethod = "POST"

            let boundary = NSString(format: "---------------------------14737809831466499882746641449")

            let contentType = NSString(format: "multipart/form-data; boundary=%@",boundary)
            request.addValue(contentType as String, forHTTPHeaderField: "Content-Type")

            let body = NSMutableData()

            // append image data to body
            body.appendData(NSString(format: "\r\n--%@\r\n", boundary).dataUsingEncoding(NSUTF8StringEncoding)!)
            body.appendData(NSString(format:"Content-Disposition: form-data; name=\"file\"; filename=\"img.jpg\"\\r\n").dataUsingEncoding(NSUTF8StringEncoding)!)
            body.appendData(NSString(format: "Content-Type: application/octet-stream\r\n\r\n").dataUsingEncoding(NSUTF8StringEncoding)!)
            body.appendData(imageData!)
            body.appendData(NSString(format: "\r\n--%@\r\n", boundary).dataUsingEncoding(NSUTF8StringEncoding)!)

            request.HTTPBody = body

            do {
                let returnData = try NSURLConnection.sendSynchronousRequest(request, returningResponse: nil)
                let returnString = NSString(data: returnData, encoding: NSUTF8StringEncoding)
                print("returnString = \(returnString!)")
            }
            catch let  error as NSError {
                print(error.description)
            }
        }
    }

Note: Always use sendAsynchronousRequest method instead of sendSynchronousRequest for uploading/downloading data to avoid blocking main thread. Here I used sendSynchronousRequest for testing purpose only.

How do I go about adding an image into a java project with eclipse?

If you are doing it in eclipse, there are a few quick notes that if you are hovering your mouse over a class in your script, it will show a focus dialogue that says hit f2 for focus.

for computer apps, use ImageIcon. and for the path say,

ImageIcon thisImage = new ImageIcon("images/youpic.png");

specify the folder( images) then seperate with / and add the name of the pic file.

I hope this is helpful. If someone else posted it, I didn't read through. So...yea.. thought reinforcement.

Insert results of a stored procedure into a temporary table

If you're lucky enough to have SQL 2012 or higher, you can use dm_exec_describe_first_result_set_for_object

I have just edited the sql provided by gotqn. Thanks gotqn.

This creates a global temp table with name same as procedure name. The temp table can later be used as required. Just don't forget to drop it before re-executing.

    declare @procname nvarchar(255) = 'myProcedure',
            @sql nvarchar(max)

    set @sql = 'create table ##' + @procname + ' ('
    begin
            select      @sql = @sql + '[' + r.name + '] ' +  r.system_type_name + ','
            from        sys.procedures AS p
            cross apply sys.dm_exec_describe_first_result_set_for_object(p.object_id, 0) AS r
            where       p.name = @procname

            set @sql = substring(@sql,1,len(@sql)-1) + ')'
            execute (@sql)
            execute('insert ##' + @procname + ' exec ' + @procname)
    end

Value Change Listener to JTextField

Just create an interface that extends DocumentListener and implements all DocumentListener methods:

@FunctionalInterface
public interface SimpleDocumentListener extends DocumentListener {
    void update(DocumentEvent e);

    @Override
    default void insertUpdate(DocumentEvent e) {
        update(e);
    }
    @Override
    default void removeUpdate(DocumentEvent e) {
        update(e);
    }
    @Override
    default void changedUpdate(DocumentEvent e) {
        update(e);
    }
}

and then:

jTextField.getDocument().addDocumentListener(new SimpleDocumentListener() {
    @Override
    public void update(DocumentEvent e) {
        // Your code here
    }
});

or you can even use lambda expression:

jTextField.getDocument().addDocumentListener((SimpleDocumentListener) e -> {
    // Your code here
});

How to check if running in Cygwin, Mac or Linux?

I guess the uname answer is unbeatable, mainly in terms of cleanliness.

Although it takes a ridiculous time to execute, I found that testing for specific files presence also gives me good and quicker results, since I'm not invoking an executable:

So,

[ -f /usr/bin/cygwin1.dll ] && echo Yep, Cygwin running

just uses a quick Bash file presence check. As I'm on Windows right now, I can't tell you any specific files for Linuxes and Mac OS X from my head, but I'm pretty sure they do exist. :-)

Microsoft.WebApplication.targets was not found, on the build server. What's your solution?

UPD: as of VS2017, there is workload in Build Tools that eliminates this problem completely. See @SOReader answer.

If you'd prefer not to modify anything on build server, and you still want the project to build right out of source control, it might be a good idea to put the required binaries under source control. You'll need to modify the imports section in your project file to look like this:

<Import Project="$(SolutionDir)\BuildTargets\WebApplications\Microsoft.WebApplication.targets" />
<Import Condition="false" Project="$(MSBuildExtensionsPath32)\Microsoft\VisualStudio\v10.0\WebApplications\Microsoft.WebApplication.targets" />

The first line is the actual import from the new location that is relative to the solution directory. The second one is a turned-off version (Condition="false") of the original line that allows for Visual Studio to still consider your project to be a valid Web Application Project (that's the trick that VS 2010 SP1 does itself).

Don't forget to copy the C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\VisualStudio\v10.0\WebApplications to BuildTargets folder under your source control.

    response = HttpResponse()
    response['Content-Disposition'] = 'attachment; filename=export.csv'
    response['Content-Type'] = 'text/csv; charset=utf-8'
    response.write("\xEF\xBB\xBF")
    response.write(template.render(context))

    return response

Difference between | and || or & and && for comparison

The & and | are usually bitwise operations.

Where as && and || are usually logical operations.

For comparison purposes, it's perfectly fine provided that everything returns either a 1 or a 0. Otherwise, it can return false positives. You should avoid this though to prevent hard to read bugs.

TypeError: a bytes-like object is required, not 'str' when writing to a file in Python3

You can encode your string by using .encode()

Example:

jQuery deferreds and promises - .then() vs .done()

.done() has only one callback and it is the success callback

.then() has both success and fail callbacks

.fail() has only one fail callback

so it is up to you what you must do... do you care if it succeeds or if it fails?

Conditional Count on a field

I would need to display the jobid, jobname and 5 fields called Priority1, Priority2, Priority3, Priority4. Priority5.

Something's wrong with your query design. You're showing a specific job in each row as well, and so you'll either have a situation where ever row has four priority columns with a '0' and one priority column with a '1' (the priority for that job) or you'll end up repeating the count for all priorities on every row.

What do you really want to show here?

FromBody string parameter is giving null

Finally got it working after 1 hour struggle.

This will remove null issue, also gets the JSON key1's value of value1, in a generic way (no model binding), .

For a new WebApi 2 application example:

Postman (looks exactly, like below):

POST    http://localhost:61402/api/values   [Send]
Body
     (*) raw             JSON (application/json) v
         "{  \"key1\": \"value1\" }"

The port 61402 or url /api/values above, may be different for you.

ValuesController.cs

using Newtonsoft.Json;
// ..

// POST api/values
[HttpPost]
public object Post([FromBody]string jsonString)
{
    // add reference to Newtonsoft.Json
    //  using Newtonsoft.Json;

    // jsonString to myJsonObj
    var myJsonObj = JsonConvert.DeserializeObject<Dictionary<string, dynamic>>(jsonString);

    // value1 is myJsonObj[key1]
    var valueOfkey1 = myJsonObj["key1"];

    return myJsonObj;
}

All good for now, not sure if model binding to a class is required if I have sub keys, or, may be DeserializeObject on sub key will work.

How to process a file in PowerShell line-by-line as a stream

System.IO.File.ReadLines() is perfect for this scenario. It returns all the lines of a file, but lets you begin iterating over the lines immediately which means it does not have to store the entire contents in memory.

Requires .NET 4.0 or higher.

foreach ($line in [System.IO.File]::ReadLines($filename)) {
    # do something with $line

How to convert list of numpy arrays into single numpy array?

Starting in NumPy version 1.10, we have the method stack. It can stack arrays of any dimension (all equal):

# Stack them using axis=0.
M = np.stack(L)
M.shape # == (10,5,4,2,5,1,2)
np.all(M == L) # == True

M = np.stack(L, axis=1)
M.shape # == (5,10,4,2,5,1,2)
np.all(M == L) # == False (Don't Panic)

# This are all true
np.all(M[:,0,:] == L[0]) # == True

How to get week number in Python?

I summarize the discussion to two steps:

  1. Convert the raw format to a datetime object.
  2. Use the function of a datetime object or a date object to calculate the week number.

Warm up

from datetime import datetime, date, time
d = date(2005, 7, 14)
t = time(12, 30)
dt = datetime.combine(d, t)
print(dt)

1st step

To manually generate a datetime object, we can use datetime.datetime(2017,5,3) or datetime.datetime.now().

But in reality, we usually need to parse an existing string. we can use strptime function, such as datetime.strptime('2017-5-3','%Y-%m-%d') in which you have to specific the format. Detail of different format code can be found in the official documentation.

Alternatively, a more convenient way is to use dateparse module. Examples are dateparser.parse('16 Jun 2010'), dateparser.parse('12/2/12') or dateparser.parse('2017-5-3')

The above two approaches will return a datetime object.

2nd step

Use the obtained datetime object to call strptime(format). For example,

python

dt = datetime.strptime('2017-01-1','%Y-%m-%d') # return a datetime object. This day is Sunday
print(dt.strftime("%W")) # '00' Monday as the 1st day of the week. All days in a new year preceding the 1st Monday are considered to be in week 0.
print(dt.strftime("%U")) # '01' Sunday as the 1st day of the week. All days in a new year preceding the 1st Sunday are considered to be in week 0.
print(dt.strftime("%V")) # '52' Monday as the 1st day of the week. Week 01 is the week containing Jan 4.

It's very tricky to decide which format to use. A better way is to get a date object to call isocalendar(). For example,

python

dt = datetime.strptime('2017-01-1','%Y-%m-%d') # return a datetime object
d = dt.date() # convert to a date object. equivalent to d = date(2017,1,1), but date.strptime() don't have the parse function
year, week, weekday = d.isocalendar()
print(year, week, weekday) # (2016,52,7) in the ISO standard

In reality, you will be more likely to use date.isocalendar() to prepare a weekly report, especially in the Christmas-New Year shopping season.

How can I get the session object if I have the entity-manager?

To be totally exhaustive, things are different if you're using a JPA 1.0 or a JPA 2.0 implementation.

JPA 1.0

With JPA 1.0, you'd have to use EntityManager#getDelegate(). But keep in mind that the result of this method is implementation specific i.e. non portable from application server using Hibernate to the other. For example with JBoss you would do:

org.hibernate.Session session = (Session) manager.getDelegate();

But with GlassFish, you'd have to do:

org.hibernate.Session session = ((org.hibernate.ejb.EntityManagerImpl) em.getDelegate()).getSession();

I agree, that's horrible, and the spec is to blame here (not clear enough).

JPA 2.0

With JPA 2.0, there is a new (and much better) EntityManager#unwrap(Class<T>) method that is to be preferred over EntityManager#getDelegate() for new applications.

So with Hibernate as JPA 2.0 implementation (see 3.15. Native Hibernate API), you would do:

Session session = entityManager.unwrap(Session.class);

What is the difference between an abstract function and a virtual function?

Abstract method doesnt have an implementation.It is declared in the parent class. The child class is resposible for implementing that method.

Virtual method should have an implementation in the parent class and it facilitates the child class to make the choice whether to use that implementation of the parent class or to have a new implementation for itself for that method in child class.

Token based authentication in Web API without any user interface

ASP.Net Web API has Authorization Server build-in already. You can see it inside Startup.cs when you create a new ASP.Net Web Application with Web API template.

OAuthOptions = new OAuthAuthorizationServerOptions
{
    TokenEndpointPath = new PathString("/Token"),
    Provider = new ApplicationOAuthProvider(PublicClientId),
    AuthorizeEndpointPath = new PathString("/api/Account/ExternalLogin"),
    AccessTokenExpireTimeSpan = TimeSpan.FromDays(14),
    // In production mode set AllowInsecureHttp = false
    AllowInsecureHttp = true
};

All you have to do is to post URL encoded username and password inside query string.

/Token/userName=johndoe%40example.com&password=1234&grant_type=password

Pass in an array of Deferreds to $.when()

I had a case very similar where I was posting in an each loop and then setting the html markup in some fields from numbers received from the ajax. I then needed to do a sum of the (now-updated) values of these fields and place in a total field.

Thus the problem was that I was trying to do a sum on all of the numbers but no data had arrived back yet from the async ajax calls. I needed to complete this functionality in a few functions to be able to reuse the code. My outer function awaits the data before I then go and do some stuff with the fully updated DOM.

    // 1st
    function Outer() {
        var deferreds = GetAllData();

        $.when.apply($, deferreds).done(function () {
            // now you can do whatever you want with the updated page
        });
    }

    // 2nd
    function GetAllData() {
        var deferreds = [];
        $('.calculatedField').each(function (data) {
            deferreds.push(GetIndividualData($(this)));
        });
        return deferreds;
    }

    // 3rd
    function GetIndividualData(item) {
        var def = new $.Deferred();
        $.post('@Url.Action("GetData")', function (data) {
            item.html(data.valueFromAjax);
            def.resolve(data);
        });
        return def;
    }

python: order a list of numbers without built-in sort, min, max function

This is the unsorted list and we want is 1234567

list = [3,1,2,5,4,7,6]

def sort(list):
    for i in range(len(list)-1):
        if list[i] > list[i+1]:
            a = list[i]
            list[i] = list[i+1]
            list[i+1] = a
        print(list)

sort(list)

simplest in simplest method to sort a array. Im using currently bubble sorting that is: it checks first 2 location and moves the smallest number to left so on. "-n"in loop is to avoid the indentation error you will understand it by doing it so.

How to check if Thread finished execution

Use the Thread.IsAlive flag. This is to give the thread status.

Use jquery click to handle anchor onClick()

You are assigning an onclick event inside an function. That means once the function has executed once, the second onclick event is assigned to the element as well.

Either assign the function onclick or use jquery click().

There's no need to have both

How do I get an Excel range using row and column numbers in VSTO / C#?

Where the range is multiple cells:

Excel.Worksheet sheet = workbook.ActiveSheet;
Excel.Range rng = (Excel.Range) sheet.get_Range(sheet.Cells[1, 1], sheet.Cells[3,3]);

Where range is one cell:

Excel.Worksheet sheet = workbook.ActiveSheet;
Excel.Range rng = (Excel.Range) sheet.Cells[1, 1];

.net Core 2.0 - Package was restored using .NetFramework 4.6.1 instead of target framework .netCore 2.0. The package may not be fully compatible

For me, I had ~6 different Nuget packages to update and when I selected Microsoft.AspNetCore.All first, I got the referenced error.

I started at the bottom and updated others first (EF Core, EF Design Tools, etc), then when the only one that was left was Microsoft.AspNetCore.All it worked fine.

SQL select max(date) and corresponding value

There's no easy way to do this, but something like this will work:

SELECT ET.TrainingID,
  ET.CompletedDate,
  ET.Notes
FROM
HR_EmployeeTrainings ET
inner join
(
  select TrainingID, Max(CompletedDate) as CompletedDate
  FROM HR_EmployeeTrainings
  WHERE (ET.AvantiRecID IS NULL OR ET.AvantiRecID = @avantiRecID)
  GROUP BY AvantiRecID, TrainingID
) ET2
  on ET.TrainingID = ET2.TrainingID
  and ET.CompletedDate = ET2.CompletedDate

Android: adbd cannot run as root in production builds

You have to grant the Superuser right to the shell app (com.anroid.shell). In my case, I use Magisk to root my phone Nexsus 6P (Oreo 8.1). So I can grant Superuser right in the Magisk Manager app, whih is in the left upper option menu.

How to retrieve Jenkins build parameters using the Groovy API?

In cases when a parameter name cannot be hardcoded I found this would be the simplest and best way to access parameters:

def myParam = env.getProperty(dynamicParamName)

In cases, when a parameter name is known and can be hardcoded the following 3 lines are equivalent:

def myParam = env.getProperty("myParamName")
def myParam = env.myParamName
def myParam = myParamName

Bootstrap 3.0 Sliding Menu from left

I believe that although javascript is an option here, you have a smoother animation through forcing hardware accelerate with CSS3. You can achieve this by setting the following CSS3 properties on the moving div:

div.hardware-accelarate {
     -webkit-transform: translate3d(0,0,0);
        -moz-transform: translate3d(0,0,0);
         -ms-transform: translate3d(0,0,0);
          -o-transform: translate3d(0,0,0);
             transform: translate3d(0,0,0);
}

Speed tradeoff of Java's -Xms and -Xmx options

  1. Allocation always depends on your OS. If you allocate too much memory, you could end up having loaded portions into swap, which indeed is slow.
  2. Whether your program runs slower or faster depends on the references the VM has to handle and to clean. The GC doesn't have to sweep through the allocated memory to find abandoned objects. It knows it's objects and the amount of memory they allocate by reference mapping. So sweeping just depends on the size of your objects. If your program behaves the same in both cases, the only performance impact should be on VM startup, when the VM tries to allocate memory provided by your OS and if you use the swap (which again leads to 1.)

What is the simplest and most robust way to get the user's current location on Android?

Even though the answer is already given here. I just wanted to share this to the world incase the come across such scenario.

My requirement was that i needed to get a user's current location within 30 to 35 seconds at max so here is the solution i made following Nirav Ranpara's Answer.

1. I made MyLocationManager.java class which handles all the GPS and Network stuff

import java.util.concurrent.Executors;
import java.util.concurrent.ScheduledExecutorService;
import java.util.concurrent.TimeUnit;

import com.app.callbacks.OnLocationDetectectionListener;

import android.app.AlertDialog;
import android.content.Context;
import android.content.DialogInterface;
import android.content.Intent;
import android.location.Location;
import android.location.LocationListener;
import android.location.LocationManager;
import android.os.Bundle;
import android.provider.Settings;
import android.util.Log;
import android.widget.Toast;

public class MyLocationManager {
    /** The minimum distance to GPS change Updates in meters **/
    private final long MIN_DISTANCE_CHANGE_FOR_UPDATES_FOR_GPS = 2; // 2
                                                                    // meters
    /** The minimum time between GPS updates in milliseconds **/
    private final long MIN_TIME_BW_UPDATES_OF_GPS = 1000 * 5 * 1; // 5
                                                                    // seconds

2. I made an Interface (callback) OnLocationDetectectionListener.java in order to communicate the results back to the calling fragment or activity

import android.location.Location;

public interface OnLocationDetectectionListener {
    public void onLocationDetected(Location mLocation);
}

3. Then i made an MainAppActivty.java Activity that implements OnLocationDetectectionListener interface and here is how i receive my location in it

public class MainAppActivty extends Activity implements
        OnLocationDetectectionListener {

    private Location currentLocation;
    private MyLocationManager mLocationManager;

    @Override
    protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
        setContentView(R.layout.activity_home);
        super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
            mLocationManager = new MyLocationManager(this, this);
            mLocationManager.startLocating();
    }

    @Override
    public void onLocationDetected(Location mLocation) {
        //Your new Location is received here
        currentLocation = mLocation;
    }

4. Add the following permissions to your manifest file

<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.INTERNET" />
<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION" />

Hope this is helpful to others :)

How to get form values in Symfony2 controller

I think that in order to get the request data, bound and validated by the form object, you must use this command :

Disable all Database related auto configuration in Spring Boot

I had the same problem here, solved like this:

Just add another application-{yourprofile}.yml where "yourprofile" could be "client".

In my case I just wanted to remove Redis in a Dev profile, so I added a application-dev.yml next to the main application.yml and it did the job.

In this file I put:

spring.autoconfigure.exclude: org.springframework.boot.autoconfigure.data.redis.RedisAutoConfiguration,org.springframework.boot.autoconfigure.data.redis.RedisRepositoriesAutoConfiguration

this should work with properties files as well.

I like the fact that there is no need to change the application code to do that.

How do I format currencies in a Vue component?

Try this:

methods: {
    formatPrice(value) {
        var formatter = new Intl.NumberFormat('en-US', {
            style: 'currency',
            currency: 'PHP',
            minimumFractionDigits: 2
        });
        return formatter.format(value);
    },
}

Then you can just call this like:

{{ formatPrice(item.total) }}

Go: panic: runtime error: invalid memory address or nil pointer dereference

According to the docs for func (*Client) Do:

"An error is returned if caused by client policy (such as CheckRedirect), or if there was an HTTP protocol error. A non-2xx response doesn't cause an error.

When err is nil, resp always contains a non-nil resp.Body."

Then looking at this code:

res, err := client.Do(req)
defer res.Body.Close()

if err != nil {
    return nil, err
}

I'm guessing that err is not nil. You're accessing the .Close() method on res.Body before you check for the err.

The defer only defers the function call. The field and method are accessed immediately.

So instead, try checking the error immediately.

res, err := client.Do(req)

if err != nil {
    return nil, err
}
defer res.Body.Close()

How to get the name of the current method from code

Well System.Reflection.MethodBase.GetCurrentMethod().Name is not a very good choice 'cause it will just display the method name without additional information.

Like for string MyMethod(string str) the above property will return just MyMethod which is hardly adequate.

It is better to use System.Reflection.MethodBase.GetCurrentMethod().ToString() which will return the entire method signature...

Check if image exists on server using JavaScript?

You can just check if the image loads or not by using the built in events that is provided for all images.

The onload and onerror events will tell you if the image loaded successfully or if an error occured :

var image = new Image();

image.onload = function() {
    // image exists and is loaded
    document.body.appendChild(image);
}
image.onerror = function() {
    // image did not load

    var err = new Image();
    err.src = '/error.png';

    document.body.appendChild(err);
}

image.src = "../imgs/6.jpg";

How to remove duplicate values from a multi-dimensional array in PHP

I've given this problem a lot of thought and have determined that the optimal solution should follow two rules.

  1. For scalability, modify the array in place; no copying to a new array
  2. For performance, each comparison should be made only once

With that in mind and given all of PHP's quirks, below is the solution I came up with. Unlike some of the other answers, it has the ability to remove elements based on whatever key(s) you want. The input array is expected to be numeric keys.

$count_array = count($input);
for ($i = 0; $i < $count_array; $i++) {
    if (isset($input[$i])) {
        for ($j = $i+1; $j < $count_array; $j++) {
            if (isset($input[$j])) {
                //this is where you do your comparison for dupes
                if ($input[$i]['checksum'] == $input[$j]['checksum']) {
                    unset($input[$j]);
                }
            }
        }
    }
}

The only drawback is that the keys are not in order when the iteration completes. This isn't a problem if you're subsequently using only foreach loops, but if you need to use a for loop, you can put $input = array_values($input); after the above to renumber the keys.

How do I find the MySQL my.cnf location

You can also run this command.

UnicodeEncodeError: 'ascii' codec can't encode character u'\xe9' in position 7: ordinal not in range(128)

You need to encode Unicode explicitly before writing to a file, otherwise Python does it for you with the default ASCII codec.

Pick an encoding and stick with it:

f.write(printinfo.encode('utf8') + '\n')

or use io.open() to create a file object that'll encode for you as you write to the file:

import io

f = io.open(filename, 'w', encoding='utf8')

How do I output the results of a HiveQL query to CSV?

In case you are doing it from Windows you can use Python script hivehoney to extract table data to local CSV file.

It will:

  1. Login to bastion host.
  2. pbrun.
  3. kinit.
  4. beeline (with your query).
  5. Save echo from beeline to a file on Windows.

Execute it like this:

How to convert NSDate into unix timestamp iphone sdk?

As per @kexik's suggestion using the UNIX time function as below :

  time_t result = time(NULL);
  NSLog([NSString stringWithFormat:@"The current Unix epoch time is %d",(int)result]);

.As per my experience - don't use timeIntervalSince1970 , it gives epoch timestamp - number of seconds you are behind GMT.

There used to be a bug with [[NSDate date]timeIntervalSince1970] , it used to add/subtract time based on the timezone of the phone but it seems to be resolved now.

How to launch an EXE from Web page (asp.net)

Are you saying that you are having trouble inserting into a web page a link to a file that happens to have a .exe extension?

If that is the case, then take one step back. Imagine the file has a .htm extension, or a .css extension. How can you make that downloadable? If it is a static link, then the answer is clear: the file needs to be in the docroot for the ASP.NET app. IIS + ASP.NET serves up many kinds of content: .htm files, .css files, .js files, image files, implicitly. All these files are somewhere under the docroot, which by default is c:\inetpub\wwwroot, but for your webapp is surely something different. The fact that the file you want to expose has an .exe extension does not change the basic laws of IIS physics. The exe has to live under the docroot. The network share thing might work for some browsers.

The alternative of course is to dynamically write the content of the file directly to the Response.OutputStream. This way you don't need the .exe to be in your docroot, but it is not a direct download link. In this scenario, the file might be downloaded by a button click.

Something like this:

    Response.Clear();
    string FullPathFilename = "\\\\server\\share\\CorpApp1.exe";
    string archiveName= System.IO.Path.GetFileName(FullPathFilename);
    Response.ContentType = "application/octet-stream";
    Response.AddHeader("content-disposition", "filename=" + archiveName);
    Response.TransmitFile(FullPathFilename);
    Response.End();

Close iOS Keyboard by touching anywhere using Swift

for Swift 3 it is very simple

override func touchesBegan(_ touches: Set<UITouch>, with event: UIEvent?) {
    self.view.endEditing(true)
}

if you want to hide keyboard on pressing RETURN key

func textFieldShouldReturn(_ textField: UITextField) -> Bool {
    textField.resignFirstResponder()
    return true
}

but in second case you will also need to pass delegate from all textFields to the ViewController in the Main.Storyboard

Difference between a theta join, equijoin and natural join

A theta join allows for arbitrary comparison relationships (such as ≥).

An equijoin is a theta join using the equality operator.

A natural join is an equijoin on attributes that have the same name in each relationship.

Additionally, a natural join removes the duplicate columns involved in the equality comparison so only 1 of each compared column remains; in rough relational algebraic terms: ? = pR,S-as ? ?aR=aS

How to read a line from a text file in c/c++?

In C++, you can use the global function std::getline, it takes a string and a stream and an optional delimiter and reads 1 line until the delimiter specified is reached. An example:

#include <string>
#include <iostream>
#include <fstream>

int main() {
    std::ifstream input("filename.txt");
    std::string line;

    while( std::getline( input, line ) ) {
        std::cout<<line<<'\n';
    }

    return 0;
}

This program reads each line from a file and echos it to the console.

For C you're probably looking at using fgets, it has been a while since I used C, meaning I'm a bit rusty, but I believe you can use this to emulate the functionality of the above C++ program like so:

#include <stdio.h>

int main() {
    char line[1024];
    FILE *fp = fopen("filename.txt","r");

    //Checks if file is empty
    if( fp == NULL ) {
        return 1;
    }

    while( fgets(line,1024,fp) ) {
        printf("%s\n",line);
    }

    return 0;
}

With the limitation that the line can not be longer than the maximum length of the buffer that you're reading in to.

Java generating Strings with placeholders

If you can tolerate a different kind of placeholder (i.e. %s in place of {}) you can use String.format method for that:

String s = "hello %s!";
s = String.format(s, "world" );
assertEquals(s, "hello world!"); // true

How should we manage jdk8 stream for null values

Current thinking seems to be to "tolerate" nulls, that is, to allow them in general, although some operations are less tolerant and may end up throwing NPE. See the discussion of nulls on the Lambda Libraries expert group mailing list, specifically this message. Consensus around option #3 subsequently emerged (with a notable objection from Doug Lea). So yes, the OP's concern about pipelines blowing up with NPE is valid.

It's not for nothing that Tony Hoare referred to nulls as the "Billion Dollar Mistake." Dealing with nulls is a real pain. Even with classic collections (without considering lambdas or streams) nulls are problematic. As fge mentioned in a comment, some collections allow nulls and others do not. With collections that allow nulls, this introduces ambiguities into the API. For example, with Map.get(), a null return indicates either that the key is present and its value is null, or that the key is absent. One has to do extra work to disambiguate these cases.

The usual use for null is to denote the absence of a value. The approach for dealing with this proposed for Java SE 8 is to introduce a new java.util.Optional type, which encapsulates the presence/absence of a value, along with behaviors of supplying a default value, or throwing an exception, or calling a function, etc. if the value is absent. Optional is used only by new APIs, though, everything else in the system still has to put up with the possibility of nulls.

My advice is to avoid actual null references to the greatest extent possible. It's hard to see from the example given how there could be a "null" Otter. But if one were necessary, the OP's suggestions of filtering out null values, or mapping them to a sentinel object (the Null Object Pattern) are fine approaches.

Can media queries resize based on a div element instead of the screen?

I ran into the same problem a couple of years ago and funded the development of a plugin to help me in my work. I've released the plugin as open-source so others can benefit from it as well, and you can grab it on Github: https://github.com/eqcss/eqcss

There are a few ways we could apply different responsive styles based on what we can know about an element on the page. Here are a few element queries that the EQCSS plugin will let you write in CSS:

@element 'div' and (condition) {
  $this {
    /* Do something to the 'div' that meets the condition */
  }
  .other {
    /* Also apply this CSS to .other when 'div' meets this condition */
  }
}

So what conditions are supported for responsive styles with EQCSS?

Weight Queries

  • min-width in px
  • min-width in %
  • max-width in px
  • max-width in %

Height Queries

  • min-height in px
  • min-height in %
  • max-height in px
  • max-height in %

Count Queries

  • min-characters
  • max-characters
  • min-lines
  • max-lines
  • min-children
  • max-children

Special Selectors

Inside EQCSS element queries you can also use three special selectors that allow you to more specifically apply your styles:

  • $this (the element(s) matching the query)
  • $parent (the parent element(s) of the element(s) matching the query)
  • $root (the root element of the document, <html>)

Element queries allow you to compose your layout out of individually responsive design modules, each with a bit of 'self-awareness' of how they are being displayed on the page.

With EQCSS you can design one widget to look good from 150px wide all the way up to 1000px wide, then you can confidently drop that widget into any sidebar in any page using any template (on any site) and

Commenting in a Bash script inside a multiline command

This will have some overhead, but technically it does answer your question:

echo abc `#Put your comment here` \
     def `#Another chance for a comment` \
     xyz, etc.

And for pipelines specifically, there is a clean solution with no overhead:

echo abc | # Normal comment OK here
     tr a-z A-Z | # Another normal comment OK here
     sort | # The pipelines are automatically continued
     uniq         # Final comment

SQL DELETE with INNER JOIN

If the database is InnoDB then it might be a better idea to use foreign keys and cascade on delete, this would do what you want and also result in no redundant data being stored.

For this example however I don't think you need the first s:

DELETE s
FROM spawnlist AS s
INNER JOIN npc AS n ON s.npc_templateid = n.idTemplate
WHERE n.type = "monster";

It might be a better idea to select the rows before deleting so you are sure your deleting what you wish to:

SELECT * FROM spawnlist
INNER JOIN npc ON spawnlist.npc_templateid = npc.idTemplate
WHERE npc.type = "monster";

You can also check the MySQL delete syntax here: http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/delete.html

How can I zoom an HTML element in Firefox and Opera?

I've been swearing at this for a while. Zoom is definitely not the solutions, it works in chrome, it works partially in IE but moves the entire html div, firefox doesnt do a thing.

My solution that worked for me was using both a scaling and a translation, and also adding the original height and weight and then setting the height and weight of the div itself:

#miniPreview {
transform: translate(-710px, -1000px) rotate(0rad) skewX(0rad) scale(0.3, 0.3);
transform-origin: 1010px 1429px 0px;
width: 337px;
height: 476px;

Obviously change these to your own needs. It gave me the same result in all browsers.

PHP is_numeric or preg_match 0-9 validation

If you're only checking if it's a number, is_numeric() is much much better here. It's more readable and a bit quicker than regex.

The issue with your regex here is that it won't allow decimal values, so essentially you've just written is_int() in regex. Regular expressions should only be used when there is a non-standard data format in your input; PHP has plenty of built in validation functions, even an email validator without regex.

Using Mysql in the command line in osx - command not found?

You can just modified the .bash_profile by adding the MySQL $PATH as the following:
export PATH=$PATH:/usr/local/mysql/bin.

I did the following:

1- Open Terminal then $ nano .bash_profile or $ vim .bash_profile

2- Add the following PATH code to the .bash_profile

# Set architecture flags
export ARCHFLAGS="-arch x86_64"
# Ensure user-installed binaries take precedence
export PATH=/usr/local/mysql/bin:$PATH
# Load .bashrc if it exists
test -f ~/.bashrc && source ~/.bashrc

3- Save the file.

4- Refresh Terminal using $ source ~/.bash_profile

5- To verify, type in Terminal $ mysql --version

6- It should print the output something like this:

$ mysql Ver 14.14 Distrib 5.7.17, for macos10.12 (x86_64)

The Terminal is now configured to read the MySQL commands from $PATH which is placed in the .bash_profile .

TLDR: Check that you don't connect to the same table/view twice.

FooConfiguration.cs
builder.ToTable("Profiles", "dbo");
...

BarConfiguration.cs
builder.ToTable("profiles", "dbo");

For me the issue was that I was trying to add an entity that connected to the same table as some other entity that already existed.

I added a new DbSet with entity and config, thinking we don't have it in our solution yet, however after searching for table name through all solution I found another place where we already connected to it.

Switching to use existing DbSet and removing my newly added one solved the issue.
