Programs & Examples On #Noexcept

A C++ keyword used for exception-specifications and to query whether an expression can throw exceptions

When should I really use noexcept?

When can I realistically except to observe a performance improvement after using noexcept? In particular, give an example of code for which a C++ compiler is able to generate better machine code after the addition of noexcept.

Um, never? Is never a time? Never.

noexcept is for compiler performance optimizations in the same way that const is for compiler performance optimizations. That is, almost never.

noexcept is primarily used to allow "you" to detect at compile-time if a function can throw an exception. Remember: most compilers don't emit special code for exceptions unless it actually throws something. So noexcept is not a matter of giving the compiler hints about how to optimize a function so much as giving you hints about how to use a function.

Templates like move_if_noexcept will detect if the move constructor is defined with noexcept and will return a const& instead of a && of the type if it is not. It's a way of saying to move if it is very safe to do so.

In general, you should use noexcept when you think it will actually be useful to do so. Some code will take different paths if is_nothrow_constructible is true for that type. If you're using code that will do that, then feel free to noexcept appropriate constructors.

In short: use it for move constructors and similar constructs, but don't feel like you have to go nuts with it.

SQL Server Script to create a new user

If you want to create a generic script you can do it with an Execute statement with a Replace with your username and database name

Declare @userName as varchar(50);
Declare @defaultDataBaseName as varchar(50);
Declare @LoginCreationScript as varchar(max);
Declare @UserCreationScript as varchar(max);
Declare @TempUserCreationScript as varchar(max);
set @defaultDataBaseName = 'data1';
set @userName = 'domain\userName';
set @LoginCreationScript ='CREATE LOGIN [{userName}]
FROM WINDOWS
WITH DEFAULT_DATABASE ={dataBaseName}'

set @UserCreationScript ='
USE {dataBaseName}
CREATE User [{userName}] for LOGIN [{userName}];
EXEC sp_addrolemember ''db_datareader'', ''{userName}'';
EXEC sp_addrolemember ''db_datawriter'', ''{userName}'';
Grant Execute on Schema :: dbo TO [{userName}];'
/*Login creation*/
set @LoginCreationScript=Replace(Replace(@LoginCreationScript, '{userName}', @userName), '{dataBaseName}', @defaultDataBaseName)
set @UserCreationScript =Replace(@UserCreationScript, '{userName}', @userName)
Execute(@LoginCreationScript)

/*User creation and role assignment*/
set @TempUserCreationScript =Replace(@UserCreationScript, '{dataBaseName}', @defaultDataBaseName)
Execute(@TempUserCreationScript)
set @TempUserCreationScript =Replace(@UserCreationScript, '{dataBaseName}', 'db2')
Execute(@TempUserCreationScript)
set @TempUserCreationScript =Replace(@UserCreationScript, '{dataBaseName}', 'db3')
Execute(@TempUserCreationScript)

How to display the current time and date in C#

You'd need to set the label's text property to DateTime.Now:

labelName.Text = DateTime.Now.ToString();

You can format it in a variety of ways by handing ToString() a format string in the form of "MM/DD/YYYY" and the like. (Google Date-format strings).

How do you remove the title text from the Android ActionBar?

Got it. You have to override

android:actionBarStyle

and then in your custom style you have to override

android:titleTextStyle

Here's a sample.

In my themes.xml:

<style name="CustomActionBar" parent="android:style/Theme.Holo.Light">
        <item name="android:actionBarStyle">@style/CustomActionBarStyle</item>
</style>

And in my styles.xml:

<style name="CustomActionBarStyle" parent="android:style/Widget.Holo.ActionBar">
        <item name="android:titleTextStyle">@style/NoTitleText</item>
        <item name="android:subtitleTextStyle">@style/NoTitleText</item>
</style>

<style name="NoTitleText">
        <item name="android:textSize">0sp</item>
        <item name="android:textColor">#00000000</item>
</style>

I'm not sure why setting the textSize to zero didn't do the trick (it shrunk the text, but didn't make it go away), but setting the textColor to transparent works.

Selecting option by text content with jQuery

I know this question is too old, but still, I think this approach would be cleaner:

cat = $.URLDecode(cat);
$('#cbCategory option:contains("' + cat + '")').prop('selected', true);

In this case you wont need to go over the entire options with each(). Although by that time prop() didn't exist so for older versions of jQuery use attr().

UPDATE

You have to be certain when using contains because you can find multiple options, in case of the string inside cat matches a substring of a different option than the one you intend to match.

Then you should use:

cat = $.URLDecode(cat);
$('#cbCategory option')
    .filter(function(index) { return $(this).text() === cat; })
    .prop('selected', true);

How to get pixel data from a UIImage (Cocoa Touch) or CGImage (Core Graphics)?

Apple's Technical Q&A QA1509 shows the following simple approach:

CFDataRef CopyImagePixels(CGImageRef inImage)
{
    return CGDataProviderCopyData(CGImageGetDataProvider(inImage));
}

Use CFDataGetBytePtr to get to the actual bytes (and various CGImageGet* methods to understand how to interpret them).

async/await - when to return a Task vs void?

I have come across this very useful article about async and void written by Jérôme Laban: https://jaylee.org/archive/2012/07/08/c-sharp-async-tips-and-tricks-part-2-async-void.html

The bottom line is that an async+void can crash the system and usually should be used only on the UI side event handlers.

The reason behind this is the Synchronization Context used by the AsyncVoidMethodBuilder, being none in this example. When there is no ambient Synchronization Context, any exception that is unhandled by the body of an async void method is rethrown on the ThreadPool. While there is seemingly no other logical place where that kind of unhandled exception could be thrown, the unfortunate effect is that the process is being terminated, because unhandled exceptions on the ThreadPool effectively terminate the process since .NET 2.0. You may intercept all unhandled exception using the AppDomain.UnhandledException event, but there is no way to recover the process from this event.

When writing UI event handlers, async void methods are somehow painless because exceptions are treated the same way found in non-async methods; they are thrown on the Dispatcher. There is a possibility to recover from such exceptions, with is more than correct for most cases. Outside of UI event handlers however, async void methods are somehow dangerous to use and may not that easy to find.

syntax error when using command line in python

Looks like your problem is that you are trying to run python test.py from within the Python interpreter, which is why you're seeing that traceback.

Make sure you're out of the interpreter, then run the python test.py command from bash or command prompt or whatever.

Javascript + Regex = Nothing to repeat error?

Well, in my case I had to test a Phone Number with the help of regex, and I was getting the same error,

Invalid regular expression: /+923[0-9]{2}-(?!1234567)(?!1111111)(?!7654321)[0-9]{7}/: Nothing to repeat'

So, what was the error in my case was that + operator after the / in the start of the regex. So enclosing the + operator with square brackets [+], and again sending the request, worked like a charm.

Following will work:

/[+]923[0-9]{2}-(?!1234567)(?!1111111)(?!7654321)[0-9]{7}/

This answer may be helpful for those, who got the same type of error, but their chances of getting the error from this point of view, as mine! Cheers :)

How to change background color in the Notepad++ text editor?

You may need admin access to do it on your system.

  1. Create a folder 'themes' in the Notepad++ installation folder i.e. C:\Program Files (x86)\Notepad++
  2. Search or visit pages like http://timtrott.co.uk/notepad-colour-schemes/ to download the favourite theme. It will be an SML file.
    • Note: I prefer Neon any day.
  3. Download the themes from the site and drag them to the themes folder.
    • Note: I was unable to copy-paste or create new files in 'themes' folder so I used drag and that worked.
  4. Follow the steps provided by @triforceofcourage to select the new theme in Notepad++ preferences.

Interface vs Base class

Modern style is to define IPet and PetBase.

The advantage of the interface is that other code can use it without any ties whatsoever to other executable code. Completely "clean." Also interfaces can be mixed.

But base classes are useful for simple implementations and common utilities. So provide an abstract base class as well to save time and code.

How to transform numpy.matrix or array to scipy sparse matrix

As for the inverse, the function is inv(A), but I won't recommend using it, since for huge matrices it is very computationally costly and unstable. Instead, you should use an approximation to the inverse, or if you want to solve Ax = b you don't really need A-1.

How to make Sonar ignore some classes for codeCoverage metric?

I had to struggle for a little bit but I found a solution, I added

-Dsonar.coverage.exclusions=**/*.*

and the coverage metric was cancelled from the dashboard at all, so I realized that the problem was the path I was passing, not the property. In my case the path to exclude was java/org/acme/exceptions, so I used :

`-Dsonar.coverage.exclusions=**/exceptions/**/*.*`

and it worked, but since I don't have sub-folders it also works with

-Dsonar.coverage.exclusions=**/exceptions/*.*

How do I login and authenticate to Postgresql after a fresh install?

There are two methods you can use. Both require creating a user and a database.

By default psql connects to the database with the same name as the user. So there is a convention to make that the "user's database". And there is no reason to break that convention if your user only needs one database. We'll be using mydatabase as the example database name.

  1. Using createuser and createdb, we can be explicit about the database name,

    $ sudo -u postgres createuser -s $USER
    $ createdb mydatabase
    $ psql -d mydatabase

    You should probably be omitting that entirely and letting all the commands default to the user's name instead.

    $ sudo -u postgres createuser -s $USER
    $ createdb
    $ psql

  2. Using the SQL administration commands, and connecting with a password over TCP

    $ sudo -u postgres psql postgres

    And, then in the psql shell

    CREATE ROLE myuser LOGIN PASSWORD 'mypass';
    CREATE DATABASE mydatabase WITH OWNER = myuser;

    Then you can login,

    $ psql -h localhost -d mydatabase -U myuser -p <port>

    If you don't know the port, you can always get it by running the following, as the postgres user,

    SHOW port;

    Or,

    $ grep "port =" /etc/postgresql/*/main/postgresql.conf

Sidenote: the postgres user

I suggest NOT modifying the postgres user.

  1. It's normally locked from the OS. No one is supposed to "log in" to the operating system as postgres. You're supposed to have root to get to authenticate as postgres.
  2. It's normally not password protected and delegates to the host operating system. This is a good thing. This normally means in order to log in as postgres which is the PostgreSQL equivalent of SQL Server's SA, you have to have write-access to the underlying data files. And, that means that you could normally wreck havoc anyway.
  3. By keeping this disabled, you remove the risk of a brute force attack through a named super-user. Concealing and obscuring the name of the superuser has advantages.

PL/pgSQL checking if a row exists

Simpler, shorter, faster: EXISTS.

IF EXISTS (SELECT 1 FROM people p WHERE p.person_id = my_person_id) THEN
  -- do something
END IF;

The query planner can stop at the first row found - as opposed to count(), which will scan all matching rows regardless. Makes a difference with big tables. Hardly matters with a condition on a unique column - only one row qualifies anyway (and there is an index to look it up quickly).

Improved with input from @a_horse_with_no_name in the comments below.

You could even use an empty SELECT list:

IF EXISTS (SELECT FROM people p WHERE p.person_id = my_person_id) THEN ...

Since the SELECT list is not relevant to the outcome of EXISTS. Only the existence of at least one qualifying row matters.

How to specify multiple return types using type-hints

The statement def foo(client_id: str) -> list or bool: when evaluated is equivalent to def foo(client_id: str) -> list: and will therefore not do what you want.

The native way to describe a "either A or B" type hint is Union (thanks to Bhargav Rao):

def foo(client_id: str) -> Union[list, bool]:

I do not want to be the "Why do you want to do this anyway" guy, but maybe having 2 return types isn't what you want:

If you want to return a bool to indicate some type of special error-case, consider using Exceptions instead. If you want to return a bool as some special value, maybe an empty list would be a good representation. You can also indicate that None could be returned with Optional[list]

Opposite of %in%: exclude rows with values specified in a vector

How about:

'%ni%' <- Negate('%in%')
c(1,3,11) %ni% 1:10
# [1] FALSE FALSE  TRUE

How To Remove Outline Border From Input Button

Set both the outline and the box-shadow properties of the button to none and make them important.

The reason for setting the values to important is that, if you are using other CSS libraries or frameworks like Bootstrap, it might get overridden.

Query EC2 tags from within instance

Install AWS CLI:

curl "https://s3.amazonaws.com/aws-cli/awscli-bundle.zip" -o "awscli-bundle.zip"
sudo apt-get install unzip
unzip awscli-bundle.zip
sudo ./awscli-bundle/install -i /usr/local/aws -b /usr/local/bin/aws

Get the tags for the current instance:

aws ec2 describe-tags --filters "Name=resource-id,Values=`ec2metadata --instance-id`"

Outputs:

{
    "Tags": [
        {
            "ResourceType": "instance",
            "ResourceId": "i-6a7e559d",
            "Value": "Webserver",
            "Key": "Name"
        }
    ]
}

Use a bit of perl to extract the tags:

aws ec2 describe-tags --filters \
"Name=resource-id,Values=`ec2metadata --instance-id`" | \
perl -ne 'print "$1\n" if /\"Value\": \"(.*?)\"/'

Returns:

Most efficient T-SQL way to pad a varchar on the left to a certain length?

probably overkill, I often use this UDF:

CREATE FUNCTION [dbo].[f_pad_before](@string VARCHAR(255), @desired_length INTEGER, @pad_character CHAR(1))
RETURNS VARCHAR(255) AS
BEGIN

-- Prefix the required number of spaces to bulk up the string and then replace the spaces with the desired character
 RETURN ltrim(rtrim(
        CASE
          WHEN LEN(@string) < @desired_length
            THEN REPLACE(SPACE(@desired_length - LEN(@string)), ' ', @pad_character) + @string
          ELSE @string
        END
        ))
END

So that you can do things like:

select dbo.f_pad_before('aaa', 10, '_')

How to select a single column with Entity Framework?

Using LINQ your query should look something like this:

public User GetUser(int userID){

return
(

 where p.UserID == userID
 select p.Name
).SingleOrDefault();

}

Of course to do this you need to have an ADO.Net Entity Model in your solution.

Convert time in HH:MM:SS format to seconds only?

<?php

$seconds += $parts[1] * 60;
$seconds += $parts[2];

When to use static keyword before global variables?

static before a global variable means that this variable is not accessible from outside the compilation module where it is defined.

E.g. imagine that you want to access a variable in another module:

foo.c

int var; // a global variable that can be accessed from another module
// static int var; means that var is local to the module only.
...

bar.c

extern int var; // use the variable in foo.c
...

Now if you declare var to be static you can't access it from anywhere but the module where foo.c is compiled into.

Note, that a module is the current source file, plus all included files. i.e. you have to compile those files separately, then link them together.

Remove decimal values using SQL query

If it's a decimal data type and you know it will never contain decimal places you can consider setting the scale property to 0. For example to decimal(18, 0). This will save you from replacing the ".00" characters and the query will be faster. In such case, don't forget to to check if the "prevent saving option" is disabled (SSMS menu "Tools>Options>Designers>Table and database designer>prevent saving changes that require table re-creation").

Othewise, you of course remove it using SQL query:

select replace(cast([height] as varchar), '.00', '') from table

SQL Server FOR EACH Loop

Here is an option with a table variable:

DECLARE @MyVar TABLE(Val DATETIME)
DECLARE @I INT, @StartDate DATETIME
SET @I = 1
SET @StartDate = '20100101'

WHILE @I <= 5
BEGIN
    INSERT INTO @MyVar(Val)
    VALUES(@StartDate)

    SET @StartDate = DATEADD(DAY,1,@StartDate)
    SET @I = @I + 1
END
SELECT *
FROM @MyVar

You can do the same with a temp table:

CREATE TABLE #MyVar(Val DATETIME)
DECLARE @I INT, @StartDate DATETIME
SET @I = 1
SET @StartDate = '20100101'

WHILE @I <= 5
BEGIN
    INSERT INTO #MyVar(Val)
    VALUES(@StartDate)

    SET @StartDate = DATEADD(DAY,1,@StartDate)
    SET @I = @I + 1
END
SELECT *
FROM #MyVar

You should tell us what is your main goal, as was said by @JohnFx, this could probably be done another (more efficient) way.

How to convert An NSInteger to an int?

If you want to do this inline, just cast the NSUInteger or NSInteger to an int:

int i = -1;
NSUInteger row = 100;
i > row // true, since the signed int is implicitly converted to an unsigned int
i > (int)row // false

Which is faster: Stack allocation or Heap allocation

Remark that the considerations are typically not about speed and performance when choosing stack versus heap allocation. The stack acts like a stack, which means it is well suited for pushing blocks and popping them again, last in, first out. Execution of procedures is also stack-like, last procedure entered is first to be exited. In most programming languages, all the variables needed in a procedure will only be visible during the procedure's execution, thus they are pushed upon entering a procedure and popped off the stack upon exit or return.

Now for an example where the stack cannot be used:

Proc P
{
  pointer x;
  Proc S
  {
    pointer y;
    y = allocate_some_data();
    x = y;
  }
}

If you allocate some memory in procedure S and put it on the stack and then exit S, the allocated data will be popped off the stack. But the variable x in P also pointed to that data, so x is now pointing to some place underneath the stack pointer (assume stack grows downwards) with an unknown content. The content might still be there if the stack pointer is just moved up without clearing the data beneath it, but if you start allocating new data on the stack, the pointer x might actually point to that new data instead.

How to extend an existing JavaScript array with another array, without creating a new array

First a few words about apply() in JavaScript to help understand why we use it:

The apply() method calls a function with a given this value, and arguments provided as an array.

Push expects a list of items to add to the array. The apply() method, however, takes the expected arguments for the function call as an array. This allows us to easily push the elements of one array into another array with the builtin push() method.

Imagine you have these arrays:

var a = [1, 2, 3, 4];
var b = [5, 6, 7];

and simply do this:

Array.prototype.push.apply(a, b);

The result will be:

a = [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7];

The same thing can be done in ES6 using the spread operator ("...") like this:

a.push(...b); //a = [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7];

Shorter and better but not fully supported in all browsers at the moment.

Also if you want to move everything from array b to a, emptying b in the process, you can do this:

while(b.length) {
  a.push(b.shift());
}

and the result will be as follows:

a = [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7];
b = [];

PostgreSQL create table if not exists

This solution is somewhat similar to the answer by Erwin Brandstetter, but uses only the sql language.

Not all PostgreSQL installations has the plpqsql language by default, this means you may have to call CREATE LANGUAGE plpgsql before creating the function, and afterwards have to remove the language again, to leave the database in the same state as it was before (but only if the database did not have the plpgsql language to begin with). See how the complexity grows?

Adding the plpgsql may not be issue if you are running your script locally, however, if the script is used to set up schema at a customer it may not be desirable to leave changes like this in the customers database.

This solution is inspired by a post by Andreas Scherbaum.

-- Function which creates table
CREATE OR REPLACE FUNCTION create_table () RETURNS TEXT AS $$
    CREATE TABLE table_name (
       i int

    SELECT 'extended_recycle_bin created'::TEXT;

    AND    tablename  = 'table_name'
  ) THEN (SELECT 'success'::TEXT)
  ELSE (SELECT create_table())
END;

-- Drop function

How to import set of icons into Android Studio project

Newer versions of Android support vector graphics, which is preferred over PNG icons. Android Studio 2.1.2 (and probably earlier versions) comes with Vector Asset Studio, which will automatically create PNG files for vector graphics that you add.

The Vector Asset Studio supports importing vector icons from the SDK, as well as your own SVG files.

This article describes Vector Asset Studio: https://developer.android.com/studio/write/vector-asset-studio.html

Summary for how to add a vector graphic with PNG files (partially copied from that URL):

  1. In the Project window, select the Android view.
  2. Right-click the res folder and select New > Vector Asset.

C library function to perform sort

There are several C sorting functions available in stdlib.h. You can do man 3 qsort on a unix machine to get a listing of them but they include:

  • heapsort
  • quicksort
  • mergesort

HTML form action and onsubmit issues

You should stop the submit procedure by returning false on the onsubmit callback.

<script>
    function checkRegistration(){
        if(!form_valid){
            alert('Given data is not correct');
            return false;
        }
        return true;
    }
</script>

<form onsubmit="return checkRegistration()"...

Here you have a fully working example. The form will submit only when you write google into input, otherwise it will return an error:

<script>
    function checkRegistration(){
        var form_valid = (document.getElementById('some_input').value == 'google');
        if(!form_valid){
            alert('Given data is incorrect');
            return false;
        }
        return true;
    }
</script>

<form onsubmit="return checkRegistration()" method="get" action="http://google.com">
    Write google to go to google...<br/>
    <input type="text" id="some_input" value=""/>
    <input type="submit" value="google it"/>
</form>

Compile c++14-code with g++

The -std=c++14 flag is not supported on GCC 4.8. If you want to use C++14 features you need to compile with -std=c++1y. Using godbolt.org it appears that the earilest version to support -std=c++14 is GCC 4.9.0 or Clang 3.5.0

The type or namespace cannot be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?)

This error comes because compile does not know where to find the class..so it occurs mainly when u copy or import item ..to solve this .. 1.change the namespace in the formname.cs and formname.designer.cs to the name of your project .

Python Error: unsupported operand type(s) for +: 'int' and 'NoneType'

In your giant elif chain, you skipped 13. You might want to throw an error if you hit the end of the chain without returning anything, to catch numbers you missed and incorrect calls of the function:

How do I rename a file using VBScript?

From what I understand, your context is to download from ALM. In this case, ALM saves the files under: C:/Users/user/AppData/Local/Temp/TD_80/ALM_VERSION/random_string/Attach/artefact_type/ID

where :

ALM_VERSION is the version of your alm installation, e.g 12.53.2.0_952

artefact_type is the type of the artefact, e.g : REQ

ID is the ID of the artefact

Herebelow a code sample which connects to an instance of ALM, domain 'DEFAUT', project 'MY_PROJECT', gets all the attachments from a REQ with id 6 and saves them in c:/tmp. It's ruby code, but it's easy to transcribe to VBSctript

require 'win32ole'
require 'fileutils'

# login to ALM and domain/project
alm_server = ENV['CURRRENT_ALM_SERVER']
tdc = WIN32OLE.new('TDApiOle80.TDConnection')
tdc.InitConnectionEx(alm_server)
username, password = ENV['ALM_CREDENTIALS'].split(':')
tdc.Login(username, password)
tdc.Connect('DEFAULT', 'MY_PROJECT')

# get a handle for the Requirements
reqFact = tdc.ReqFactory

# get Requirement with ID=6
req = reqFact.item(6)

# get a handle for the attachment of REQ
att = req.Attachments

# get a handle for the list of attachements
attList = att.NewList("")

thePath= 'c:/tmp'

# for each attachment:
attList.each do |el|
  clientPath = nil

  # download the attachment to its default location
  el.Load true, clientPath

  baseName = File.basename(el.FileName)
  dirName = File.dirname(el.FileName)
  puts "file downloaded as : #{baseName}\n in Folder #{dirName}"
  FileUtils.mkdir_p thePath
  puts "now moving #{baseName} to #{thePath}"
  FileUtils.mv el.FileName, thePath
end

The output:

=> file downloaded as : REQ_6_20191112_143346.png

=> in Folder C:\Users\user\AppData\Local\Temp\TD_80\12.53.2.0_952\e68ab622\Attach\REQ\6

=> now moving REQ_6_20191112_143346.png to c:/tmp

Is mathematics necessary for programming?

There are some good points to this question in my opinion.

As David Nehme posted here, computer science and programming are two very different subjects.

I find it perfectly possible that a programmer with very basic high-school and early college math skills may be a competent programmer. Not so sure about the computer science graduate, though.

As you correctly pointed out, the algorithm creation process is very much related to how you crunch math. Even if this is just a result of the type of mathmatical and analytical process you must accomplish to correctly design an algorithm.

I also think it very much depends on what you're doing, more than it depends on your job description or skills. For instance, if the programming and math are both tools to produce some effect, than you surely have to be competent with both (i.e.: you are making a modelization programme for some purpose). Although, if the programming is the ultimate objective of your activity, than math is most probably not required. (i.e.: you are making a web application)

How to forward declare a template class in namespace std?

I solved that problem.

I was implementing an OSI Layer (slider window, Level 2) for a network simulation in C++ (Eclipse Juno). I had frames (template <class T>) and its states (state pattern, forward declaration).

The solution is as follows:

In the *.cpp file, you must include the Header file that you forward, i.e.

ifndef STATE_H_
#define STATE_H_
#include <stdlib.h>
#include "Frame.h"

template <class T>
class LinkFrame;

using namespace std;

template <class T>
class State {

  protected:
    LinkFrame<int> *myFrame;

}

Its cpp:

#include "State.h"
#include "Frame.h"
#include  "LinkFrame.h"

template <class T>
bool State<T>::replace(Frame<T> *f){

And... another class.

Critical t values in R

Josh's comments are spot on. If you are not super familiar with critical values I'd suggest playing with qt, reading the manual (?qt) in conjunction with looking at a look up table (LINK). When I first moved from SPSS to R I created a function that made critical t value look up pretty easy (I'd never use this now as it takes too much time and with the p values that are generally provided in the output it's a moot point). Here's the code for that:

critical.t <- function(){
    cat("\n","\bEnter Alpha Level","\n")
    alpha<-scan(n=1,what = double(0),quiet=T)
    cat("\n","\b1 Tailed or 2 Tailed:\nEnter either 1 or 2","\n")
    tt <- scan(n=1,what = double(0),quiet=T)
    cat("\n","\bEnter Number of Observations","\n")
    n <- scan(n=1,what = double(0),quiet=T)
    cat("\n\nCritical Value =",qt(1-(alpha/tt), n-2), "\n")
}

critical.t()

Query to get all rows from previous month

Alternative with single condition

SELECT * FROM table
WHERE YEAR(date_created) * 12 + MONTH(date_created)
    = YEAR(CURRENT_DATE) * 12 + MONTH(CURRENT_DATE) - 1

The differences between initialize, define, declare a variable

Declaration says "this thing exists somewhere":

int foo();       // function
extern int bar;  // variable
struct T
{
   static int baz; // static member variable
};

Definition says "this thing exists here; make memory for it":

int foo() {}     // function
int bar;         // variable
int T::baz; // static member variable

Initialisation is optional at the point of definition for objects, and says "here is the initial value for this thing":

int bar = 0;     // variable
int T::baz = 42; // static member variable

Sometimes it's possible at the point of declaration instead:

struct T
{
   static int baz = 42;
};

…but that's getting into more complex features.

How can I make a TextBox be a "password box" and display stars when using MVVM?

You can make your TextBox as customed PasswordBox by simply adding the following value to FontFamily property of your TextBox control.

<TextBox
    Text="{Binding Password}"
    FontFamily="ms-appx:///Assets/PassDot.ttf#PassDot"
    FontSize="35"/>

In my case this works perfectly. This will show dot in place of the actual text (not star(*) though).

How can I check if a jQuery plugin is loaded?

jQuery has a method to check if something is a function

if ($.isFunction($.fn.dateJS)) {
    //your code using the plugin
}

API reference: https://api.jquery.com/jQuery.isFunction/

Replace \n with <br />

You could also have problems if the string has <, > or & chars in it, etc. Pass it to cgi.escape() to deal with those.

http://docs.python.org/library/cgi.html?highlight=cgi#cgi.escape

Optimal way to concatenate/aggregate strings

Are methods using FOR XML PATH like below really that slow? Itzik Ben-Gan writes that this method has good performance in his T-SQL Querying book (Mr. Ben-Gan is a trustworthy source, in my view).

create table #t (id int, name varchar(20))

insert into #t
values (1, 'Matt'), (1, 'Rocks'), (2, 'Stylus')

select  id
        ,Names = stuff((select ', ' + name as [text()]
        from #t xt
        where xt.id = t.id
        for xml path('')), 1, 2, '')
from #t t
group by id

ES6 class variable alternatives

If its only the cluttering what gives the problem in the constructor why not implement a initialize method that intializes the variables. This is a normal thing to do when the constructor gets to full with unnecessary stuff. Even in typed program languages like C# its normal convention to add an Initialize method to handle that.

How can I trigger an onchange event manually?

MDN suggests that there's a much cleaner way of doing this in modern browsers:

// Assuming we're listening for e.g. a 'change' event on `element`

// Create a new 'change' event
var event = new Event('change');

// Dispatch it.
element.dispatchEvent(event);

Vue is not defined

jsBin demo

  1. You missed the order, first goes:

<script src="https://cdnjs.cloudflare.com/ajax/libs/vue/1.0.18/vue.min.js"></script>

and then:

<script>
    var demo = new Vue({
        el: '#demo',
        data: {
            message: 'Hello Vue.js!'
        }
    });
</script>

Create nice column output in python

Since Python 2.6+, you can use a format string in the following way to set the columns to a minimum of 20 characters and align text to right.

table_data = [
    ['a', 'b', 'c'],
    ['aaaaaaaaaa', 'b', 'c'],
    ['a', 'bbbbbbbbbb', 'c']
]
for row in table_data:
    print("{: >20} {: >20} {: >20}".format(*row))

Output:

               a                    b                    c
      aaaaaaaaaa                    b                    c
               a           bbbbbbbbbb                    c

MomentJS getting JavaScript Date in UTC

Or simply:

Date.now

From MDN documentation:

The Date.now() method returns the number of milliseconds elapsed since January 1, 1970

Available since ECMAScript 5.1

It's the same as was mentioned above (new Date().getTime()), but more shortcutted version.

SQL query to get the deadlocks in SQL SERVER 2008

In order to capture deadlock graphs without using a trace (you don't need profiler necessarily), you can enable trace flag 1222. This will write deadlock information to the error log. However, the error log is textual, so you won't get nice deadlock graph pictures - you'll have to read the text of the deadlocks to figure it out.

I would set this as a startup trace flag (in which case you'll need to restart the service). However, you can run it only for the current running instance of the service (which won't require a restart, but which won't resume upon the next restart) using the following global trace flag command:

DBCC TRACEON(1222, -1);

A quick search yielded this tutorial:

http://www.mssqltips.com/sqlservertip/2130/finding-sql-server-deadlocks-using-trace-flag-1222/

Also note that if your system experiences a lot of deadlocks, this can really hammer your error log, and can become quite a lot of noise, drowning out other, important errors.

Have you considered third party monitoring tools? SQL Sentry Performance Advisor, for example, has a much nicer deadlock graph, showing you object / index names as well as the order in which the locks were taken. As a bonus, these are captured for you automatically on monitored servers without having to configure trace flags, run your own traces, etc.:

What ports does RabbitMQ use?

PORT 4369: Erlang makes use of a Port Mapper Daemon (epmd) for resolution of node names in a cluster. Nodes must be able to reach each other and the port mapper daemon for clustering to work.

PORT 35197 set by inet_dist_listen_min/max Firewalls must permit traffic in this range to pass between clustered nodes

RabbitMQ Management console:

  • PORT 15672 for RabbitMQ version 3.x
  • PORT 55672 for RabbitMQ pre 3.x

PORT 5672 RabbitMQ main port.

For a cluster of nodes, they must be open to each other on 35197, 4369 and 5672.

For any servers that want to use the message queue, only 5672 is required.

Converting int to bytes in Python 3

You can use the struct's pack:

In [11]: struct.pack(">I", 1)
Out[11]: '\x00\x00\x00\x01'

The ">" is the byte-order (big-endian) and the "I" is the format character. So you can be specific if you want to do something else:

In [12]: struct.pack("<H", 1)
Out[12]: '\x01\x00'

In [13]: struct.pack("B", 1)
Out[13]: '\x01'

This works the same on both python 2 and python 3.

Note: the inverse operation (bytes to int) can be done with unpack.

Surprisingly I was able to access the page and error was gone. Same can be verified from target folder where you will be able to find the complied classes which were missing earlier.

How to use HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FOR properly?

I like Hrishikesh's answer, to which I only have this to add...because we saw a comma-delimited string coming across when multiple proxies along the way were used, we found it necessary to add an explode and grab the final value, like this:

PHP: How do you determine every Nth iteration of a loop?

The easiest way is to use the modulus division operator.

if ($counter % 3 == 0) {
   echo 'image file';
}

How this works: Modulus division returns the remainder. The remainder is always equal to 0 when you are at an even multiple.

There is one catch: 0 % 3 is equal to 0. This could result in unexpected results if your counter starts at 0.

How to simulate target="_blank" in JavaScript

I know this is a done and sorted out deal, but here's what I'm using to solve the problem in my app.

if (!e.target.hasAttribute("target")) {
    e.preventDefault();
    e.target.setAttribute("target", "_blank");
    e.target.click();
    return;
}

Basically what is going on here is I run a check for if the link has target=_blank attribute. If it doesn't, it stops the link from triggering, sets it up to open in a new window then programmatically clicks on it.

You can go one step further and skip the stopping of the original click (and make your code a whole lot more compact) by trying this:

if (!e.target.hasAttribute("target")) {
    e.target.setAttribute("target", "_blank");
}

If you were using jQuery to abstract away the implementation of adding an attribute cross-browser, you should use this instead of e.target.setAttribute("target", "_blank"):

    jQuery(event.target).attr("target", "_blank")

You may need to rework it to fit your exact use-case, but here's how I scratched my own itch.

Here's a demo of it in action for you to mess with.

A simple command line to download a remote maven2 artifact to the local repository?

As of version 2.4 of the Maven Dependency Plugin, you can also define a target destination for the artifact by using the -Ddest flag. It should point to a filename (not a directory) for the destination artifact. See the parameter page for additional parameters that can be used

mvn org.apache.maven.plugins:maven-dependency-plugin:2.4:get \
    -DremoteRepositories=http://download.java.net/maven/2 \
    -Dartifact=robo-guice:robo-guice:0.4-SNAPSHOT \
    -Ddest=c:\temp\robo-guice.jar

What is key=lambda

 >>> sorted(['Some', 'words', 'sort', 'differently'], key=lambda word: word.lower())

Actually, above codes can be:

>>> sorted(['Some','words','sort','differently'],key=str.lower)

According to https://docs.python.org/2/library/functions.html?highlight=sorted#sorted, key specifies a function of one argument that is used to extract a comparison key from each list element: key=str.lower. The default value is None (compare the elements directly).

Python __call__ special method practical example

I just stumbled upon a usage of __call__() in concert with __getattr__() which I think is beautiful. It allows you to hide multiple levels of a JSON/HTTP/(however_serialized) API inside an object.

The __getattr__() part takes care of iteratively returning a modified instance of the same class, filling in one more attribute at a time. Then, after all information has been exhausted, __call__() takes over with whatever arguments you passed in.

Using this model, you can for example make a call like api.v2.volumes.ssd.update(size=20), which ends up in a PUT request to https://some.tld/api/v2/volumes/ssd/update.

The particular code is a block storage driver for a certain volume backend in OpenStack, you can check it out here: https://github.com/openstack/cinder/blob/master/cinder/volume/drivers/nexenta/jsonrpc.py

EDIT: Updated the link to point to master revision.

addEventListener, "change" and option selection

The problem is that you used the select option, this is where you went wrong. Select signifies that a textbox or textArea has a focus. What you need to do is use change. "Fires when a new choice is made in a select element", also used like blur when moving away from a textbox or textArea.

function start(){
      document.getElementById("activitySelector").addEventListener("change", addActivityItem, false);
      }

function addActivityItem(){
      //option is selected
      alert("yeah");
}

window.addEventListener("load", start, false);

Remove or adapt border of frame of legend using matplotlib

One more related question, since it took me forever to find the answer:

How to make the legend background blank (i.e. transparent, not white):

legend = plt.legend()
legend.get_frame().set_facecolor('none')

Warning, you want 'none' (the string). None means the default color instead.

How to connect android wifi to adhoc wifi?

If you have a Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter as one of the available network adapters, you may do the following:

  • Run Windows Command Processor (cmd) as Administrator
  • Type: netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=NAME key=PASSWORD
  • Then: netsh wlan start hostednetwork
  • Open "Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections"
  • Right-click on your active network adapter (the one that you use to connect on the internet) and then click Properties
  • Then open Sharing tab
  • Check "Allow other network users to connect..." and select your WiFi Miniport Adapter
  • Once finished, type: netsh wlan stop hostednetwork

That's it!

How to add and remove classes in Javascript without jQuery

Updated JS Class Method

The add methods do not add duplicate classes and the remove method only removes class with exact string match.

const addClass = (selector, classList) => {
  const element = document.querySelector(selector);
  const classes = classList.split(' ')
  classes.forEach((item, id) => {
    element.classList.add(item)
  })
}

const removeClass = (selector, classList) => {
  const element = document.querySelector(selector);
  const classes = classList.split(' ')
  classes.forEach((item, id) => {
    element.classList.remove(item)
  })
}

addClass('button.submit', 'text-white color-blue') // add text-white and color-blue classes
removeClass('#home .paragraph', 'text-red bold') // removes text-red and bold classes

Adding and using header (HTTP) in nginx

You can use upstream headers (named starting with $http_) and additional custom headers. For example:

add_header X-Upstream-01 $http_x_upstream_01;
add_header X-Hdr-01  txt01;

next, go to console and make request with user's header:

curl -H "X-Upstream-01: HEADER1" -I http://localhost:11443/

the response contains X-Hdr-01, seted by server and X-Upstream-01, seted by client:

HTTP/1.1 200 OK
Server: nginx/1.8.0
Date: Mon, 30 Nov 2015 23:54:30 GMT
Content-Type: text/html;charset=UTF-8
Connection: keep-alive
X-Hdr-01: txt01
X-Upstream-01: HEADER1

How to remove backslash on json_encode() function?

Since PHP 5.4 there are constants which can be used by json_encode() to format the json reponse how you want.

To remove backslashes use: JSON_UNESCAPED_SLASHES. Like so:

json_encode($response, JSON_UNESCAPED_SLASHES);

View the PHP documentation for more constants and further information:

http://php.net/manual/en/function.json-encode.php

List of JSON constants:

Using the "animated circle" in an ImageView while loading stuff

You can do this by using the following xml

<RelativeLayout
    style="@style/GenericProgressBackground"
    android:id="@+id/loadingPanel"
    >
    <ProgressBar
        style="@style/GenericProgressIndicator"/>
</RelativeLayout>

With this style

<style name="GenericProgressBackground" parent="android:Theme">
    <item name="android:layout_width">fill_parent</item>
    <item name="android:layout_height">fill_parent</item>
    <item name="android:background">#DD111111</item>
    <item name="android:gravity">center</item>
</style>
<style name="GenericProgressIndicator" parent="@android:style/Widget.ProgressBar.Small">
    <item name="android:layout_width">wrap_content</item>
    <item name="android:layout_height">wrap_content</item>
    <item name="android:indeterminate">true</item>
</style>

To use this, you must hide your UI elements by setting the visibility value to GONE and whenever the data is loaded, call setVisibility(View.VISIBLE) on all your views to restore them. Don't forget to call findViewById(R.id.loadingPanel).setVisiblity(View.GONE) to hide the loading animation.

If you dont have a loading event/function but just want the loading panel to disappear after x seconds use a Handle to trigger the hiding/showing.

The Response content must be a string or object implementing __toString(), "boolean" given after move to psql

So, rather return the whole object first, just wrap it to json_encode and then return it. This will return a proper and valid object.

public function id($id){
    $promotion = Promotion::find($id);
    return json_encode($promotion);
}

Or, For DB this will be just like,

public function id($id){
    $promotion = DB::table('promotions')->first();
    return json_encode($promotion);
}

I think it may help someone else.

How to add header row to a pandas DataFrame

Setting Icon for wpf application (VS 08)

You can try this also:

    {
        Uri iconUri = new Uri(@"C:\Apps\R&D\WPFNavigation\WPFNavigation\Images\airport.ico", UriKind.RelativeOrAbsolute);
        (this.Parent as Window).Icon = BitmapFrame.Create(iconUri);
    }

How to hide a TemplateField column in a GridView

A slight improvement using column name, IMHO:

    Private Sub GridView1_Init(sender As Object, e As System.EventArgs) Handles GridView1.Init
    For Each dcf As DataControlField In GridView1.Columns
        Select Case dcf.HeaderText.ToUpper
            Case "CBSELECT"
                dcf.Visible = Me.CheckBoxVisible
                dcf.HeaderText = "<small>Select</small>"
        End Select
    Next
End Sub

This allows control over multiple column. I initially use a 'technical' column name, matching the control name within. This makes it obvious within the ASCX page that it's a control column. Then swap out the name as desired for presentation. If I spy the odd name in production, I know I skipped something. The "ToUpper" avoids case-issues.

Finally, this runs ONE time on any post instead of capturing the event during row-creation.

How can I run a php without a web server?

For windows system you should be able to run php by following below steps:

  1. Download php version you want to use and put it in c:\php.
  2. append ;c:\php to your system path using cmd or gui.
  3. call $ php -S localhost:8000 command in a folder which you want to serve the pages from.

How do I replace multiple spaces with a single space in C#?

Many answers are providing the right output but for those looking for the best performances, I did improve Nolanar's answer (which was the best answer for performance) by about 10%.

public static string MergeSpaces(this string str)
{

    if (str == null)
    {
        return null;
    }
    else
    {
        StringBuilder stringBuilder = new StringBuilder(str.Length);

        int i = 0;
        foreach (char c in str)
        {
            if (c != ' ' || i == 0 || str[i - 1] != ' ')
                stringBuilder.Append(c);
            i++;
        }
        return stringBuilder.ToString();
    }

}

Find duplicate values in R

Here's a data.table solution that will list the duplicates along with the number of duplications (will be 1 if there are 2 copies, and so on - you can adjust that to suit your needs):

library(data.table)
dt = data.table(vocabulary)

dt[duplicated(id), cbind(.SD[1], number = .N), by = id]

Use RSA private key to generate public key?

Seems to be a common feature of the prevalent asymmetric cryptography; the generation of public/private keys involves generating the private key, which contains the key pair:

openssl genrsa -out mykey.pem 1024

Then publish the public key:

openssl rsa -in mykey.pem -pubout > mykey.pub

or

openssl rsa -in mykey.pem -pubout -out mykey.pub

DSA & EC crypto keys have same feature: eg.

openssl genpkey -algorithm ed25519 -out pvt.pem

Then

openssl pkey -in pvt.pem -pubout > public.pem

or

openssl ec -in ecprivkey.pem -pubout -out ecpubkey.pem

The public component is involved in decryption, and keeping it as part of the private key makes decryption faster; it can be removed from the private key and calculated when needed (for decryption), as an alternative or complement to encrypting or protecting the private key with a password/key/phrase. eg.

openssl pkey -in key.pem -des3 -out keyout.pem

or

openssl ec -aes-128-cbc -in pk8file.pem -out tradfile.pem

You can replace the first argument "aes-128-cbc" with any other valid openssl cipher name

Create table variable in MySQL

If you don't want to store table in database then @Evan Todd already has been provided temporary table solution.

But if you need that table for other users and want to store in db then you can use below procedure.

Create below ‘stored procedure’:

————————————

DELIMITER $$

USE `test`$$

DROP PROCEDURE IF EXISTS `sp_variable_table`$$

CREATE DEFINER=`root`@`localhost` PROCEDURE `sp_variable_table`()
BEGIN

SELECT CONCAT(‘zafar_’,REPLACE(TIME(NOW()),’:',’_')) INTO @tbl;

SET @str=CONCAT(“create table “,@tbl,” (pbirfnum BIGINT(20) NOT NULL DEFAULT ’0', paymentModes TEXT ,paymentmodeDetails TEXT ,shippingCharges TEXT ,shippingDetails TEXT ,hypenedSkuCodes TEXT ,skuCodes TEXT ,itemDetails TEXT ,colorDesc TEXT ,size TEXT ,atmDesc TEXT ,promotional TEXT ,productSeqNumber VARCHAR(16) DEFAULT NULL,entity TEXT ,entityDetails TEXT ,kmtnmt TEXT ,rating BIGINT(1) DEFAULT NULL,discount DECIMAL(15,0) DEFAULT NULL,itemStockDetails VARCHAR(38) NOT NULL DEFAULT ”) ENGINE=INNODB DEFAULT CHARSET=utf8");
PREPARE stmt FROM @str;
EXECUTE stmt;
DEALLOCATE PREPARE stmt;

SELECT ‘Table has been created’;
END$$

DELIMITER ;

———————————————–

Now you can execute this procedure to create a variable name table as per below-

call sp_variable_table();

You can check new table after executing below command-

use test;show tables like ‘%zafar%’; — test is here ‘database’ name.

You can also check more details at below path-

Unsupported method: BaseConfig.getApplicationIdSuffix()

GetFiles with multiple extensions

You can get every file, then filter the array:

public static IEnumerable<FileInfo> GetFilesByExtensions(this DirectoryInfo dirInfo, params string[] extensions)
{
    var allowedExtensions = new HashSet<string>(extensions, StringComparer.OrdinalIgnoreCase);

    return dirInfo.EnumerateFiles()
                  .Where(f => allowedExtensions.Contains(f.Extension));
}

This will be (marginally) faster than every other answer here.
In .Net 3.5, replace EnumerateFiles with GetFiles (which is slower).

And use it like this:

var files = new DirectoryInfo(...).GetFilesByExtensions(".jpg", ".mov", ".gif", ".mp4");

How to refresh datagrid in WPF

I had a lot of trouble with this and this is what helped me get the DataGrid reloaded with the new values. Make sure you use the data type that your are getting the data from to get the latest data values.

I represented that with SomeDataType below.

DataContext.Refresh(RefreshMode.OverwriteCurrentValues, DataContext.SomeDataType);

Hope this helps someone with the same issues I had.

Is there a good JavaScript minifier?

There are several you can use/try:

Using Panel or PlaceHolder

The Placeholder does not render any tags for itself, so it is great for grouping content without the overhead of outer HTML tags.

The Panel does have outer HTML tags but does have some cool extra properties.

  • BackImageUrl: Gets/Sets the background image's URL for the panel

  • HorizontalAlign: Gets/Sets the
    horizontal alignment of the parent's contents

  • Wrap: Gets/Sets whether the
    panel's content wraps

There is a good article at startvbnet here.

Conditional HTML Attributes using Razor MVC3

Note you can do something like this(at least in MVC3):

<td align="left" @(isOddRow ? "class=TopBorder" : "style=border:0px") >

What I believed was razor adding quotes was actually the browser. As Rism pointed out when testing with MVC 4(I haven't tested with MVC 3 but I assume behavior hasn't changed), this actually produces class=TopBorder but browsers are able to parse this fine. The HTML parsers are somewhat forgiving on missing attribute quotes, but this can break if you have spaces or certain characters.

<td align="left" class="TopBorder" >

OR

<td align="left" style="border:0px" >

What goes wrong with providing your own quotes

If you try to use some of the usual C# conventions for nested quotes, you'll end up with more quotes than you bargained for because Razor is trying to safely escape them. For example:

<button type="button" @(true ? "style=\"border:0px\"" : string.Empty)>

This should evaluate to <button type="button" style="border:0px"> but Razor escapes all output from C# and thus produces:

style=&quot;border:0px&quot;

You will only see this if you view the response over the network. If you use an HTML inspector, often you are actually seeing the DOM, not the raw HTML. Browsers parse HTML into the DOM, and the after-parsing DOM representation already has some niceties applied. In this case the Browser sees there aren't quotes around the attribute value, adds them:

style="&quot;border:0px&quot;"

But in the DOM inspector HTML character codes display properly so you actually see:

style=""border:0px""

In Chrome, if you right-click and select Edit HTML, it switch back so you can see those nasty HTML character codes, making it clear you have real outer quotes, and HTML encoded inner quotes.

So the problem with trying to do the quoting yourself is Razor escapes these.

If you want complete control of quotes

Use Html.Raw to prevent quote escaping:

<td @Html.Raw( someBoolean ? "rel='tooltip' data-container='.drillDown a'" : "" )>

Renders as:

<td rel='tooltip' title='Drilldown' data-container='.drillDown a'>

The above is perfectly safe because I'm not outputting any HTML from a variable. The only variable involved is the ternary condition. However, beware that this last technique might expose you to certain security problems if building strings from user supplied data. E.g. if you built an attribute from data fields that originated from user supplied data, use of Html.Raw means that string could contain a premature ending of the attribute and tag, then begin a script tag that does something on behalf of the currently logged in user(possibly different than the logged in user). Maybe you have a page with a list of all users pictures and you are setting a tooltip to be the username of each person, and one users named himself '/><script>$.post('changepassword.php?password=123')</script> and now any other user who views this page has their password instantly changed to a password that the malicious user knows.

How can I make the cursor turn to the wait cursor?

It is easier to use UseWaitCursor at the Form or Window level. A typical use case can look like below:

    private void button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
    {

        try
        {
            this.Enabled = false;//optional, better target a panel or specific controls
            this.UseWaitCursor = true;//from the Form/Window instance
            Application.DoEvents();//messages pumped to update controls
            //execute a lengthy blocking operation here,
            //bla bla ....
        }
        finally
        {
            this.Enabled = true;//optional
            this.UseWaitCursor = false;
        }
    }

For a better UI experience you should use Asynchrony from a different thread.

CodeIgniter 404 Page Not Found, but why?

The cause of the problem was that the server was running PHP using FastCGI.

After changing the config.php to

$config['uri_protocol'] = "REQUEST_URI";

everything worked.

How do you remove duplicates from a list whilst preserving order?

Here you have some alternatives: http://www.peterbe.com/plog/uniqifiers-benchmark

Fastest one:

def f7(seq):
    seen = set()
    seen_add = seen.add
    return [x for x in seq if not (x in seen or seen_add(x))]

Why assign seen.add to seen_add instead of just calling seen.add? Python is a dynamic language, and resolving seen.add each iteration is more costly than resolving a local variable. seen.add could have changed between iterations, and the runtime isn't smart enough to rule that out. To play it safe, it has to check the object each time.

If you plan on using this function a lot on the same dataset, perhaps you would be better off with an ordered set: http://code.activestate.com/recipes/528878/

O(1) insertion, deletion and member-check per operation.

(Small additional note: seen.add() always returns None, so the or above is there only as a way to attempt a set update, and not as an integral part of the logical test.)

How can I get the current network interface throughput statistics on Linux/UNIX?

  • dstat - Combines vmstat, iostat, ifstat, netstat information and more
  • iftop - Amazing network bandwidth utility to analyse what is really happening on your eth
  • netio - Measures the net throughput of a network via TCP/IP
  • inq - CLI troubleshooting utility that displays info on storage, typically Symmetrix. By default, INQ returns the device name, Symmetrix ID, Symmetrix LUN, and capacity.
  • send_arp - Sends out an arp broadcast on the specified network device (defaults to eth0), reporting an old and new IP address mapping to a MAC address.
  • EtherApe - is a graphical network monitor for Unix modeled after etherman. Featuring link layer, IP and TCP modes, it displays network activity graphically.
  • iptraf - An IP traffic monitor that shows information on the IP traffic passing over your network.

How to get the unix timestamp in C#

You get a unix timestamp in C# by using DateTime.UtcNow and subtracting the epoch time of 1970-01-01.

e.g.

Int32 unixTimestamp = (Int32)(DateTime.UtcNow.Subtract(new DateTime(1970, 1, 1))).TotalSeconds;

DateTime.UtcNow can be replaced with any DateTime object that you would like to get the unix timestamp for.

There is also a field, DateTime.UnixEpoch, which is very poorly documented by MSFT, but may be a substitute for new DateTime(1970, 1, 1)

Executing another application from Java

You can execute a batch instruction, or any other application using

Runtime.getRuntime().exec(cmd);
  • cmd is the command or te application path.

Also yo can wait for executing and getting the return code (to check if its executed correctly) with this code:

  Process p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec(cmd);
  p.waitFor();
  int exitVal = p.exitValue();

You have a full explanation of different types of calls here http://www.rgagnon.com/javadetails/java-0014.html

Getting RAW Soap Data from a Web Reference Client running in ASP.net

You haven't specified what language you are using but assuming C# / .NET you could use SOAP extensions.

Otherwise, use a sniffer such as Wireshark

Calculating and printing the nth prime number

java.math.BigInteger has a nextProbablePrime() method. Whilst I'm guessing this is meant for cryptography you could use it for you work.

BigInteger prime = BigInteger.valueOf(0);
for (int i = 0; i < n; i++) {
    prime = prime.nextProbablePrime();
}
System.out.println(prime.intValue());

Convert list of ints to one number?

Using a generator expression:

def magic(numbers):
    digits = ''.join(str(n) for n in numbers)
    return int(digits)

C++ template constructor

You could do this:

class C
{
public:
    template <typename T> C(T*);
};
template <typename T> T* UseType()
{
    static_cast<T*>(nullptr);
}

Then to create an object of type C using int as the template parameter to the constructor:

C obj(UseType<int>());

Since you can't pass template parameters to a constructor, this solution essentially converts the template parameter to a regular parameter. Using the UseType<T>() function when calling the constructor makes it clear to someone looking at the code that the purpose of that parameter is to tell the constructor what type to use.

One use case for this would be if the constructor creates a derived class object and assigns it to a member variable that is a base class pointer. (The constructor needs to know which derived class to use, but the class itself doesn't need to be templated since the same base class pointer type is always used.)

The POM for project is missing, no dependency information available

The scope <scope>provided</scope> gives you an opportunity to tell that the jar would be available at runtime, so do not bundle it. It does not mean that you do not need it at compile time, hence maven would try to download that.

Now I think, the below maven artifact do not exist at all. I tries searching google, but not able to find. Hence you are getting this issue.

Change groupId to <groupId>net.sourceforge.ant4x</groupId> to get the latest jar.

<dependency>
  <groupId>net.sourceforge.ant4x</groupId>
  <artifactId>ant4x</artifactId>
  <version>${net.sourceforge.ant4x-version}</version>
  <scope>provided</scope>
</dependency>

Another solution for this problem is:

  1. Run your own maven repo.
  2. download the jar
  3. Install the jar into the repository.
  4. Add a code in your pom.xml something like:

Where http://localhost/repo is your local repo URL:

<repositories>
    <repository>
        <id>wmc-central</id>
        <url>http://localhost/repo</url>
    </repository>
    <-- Other repository config ... -->
</repositories>

Remove an element from a Bash array

This answer is specific to the case of deleting multiple values from large arrays, where performance is important.

The most voted solutions are (1) pattern substitution on an array, or (2) iterating over the array elements. The first is fast, but can only deal with elements that have distinct prefix, the second has O(n*k), n=array size, k=elements to remove. Associative array are relative new feature, and might not have been common when the question was originally posted.

For the exact match case, with large n and k, possible to improve performance from O(nk) to O(n+klog(k)). In practice, O(n) assuming k much lower than n. Most of the speed up is based on using associative array to identify items to be removed.

Performance (n-array size, k-values to delete). Performance measure seconds of user time

   N     K     New(seconds) Current(seconds)  Speedup
 1000   10     0.005        0.033             6X
10000   10     0.070        0.348             5X
10000   20     0.070        0.656             9X
10000    1     0.043        0.050             -7%

As expected, the current solution is linear to N*K, and the fast solution is practically linear to K, with much lower constant. The fast solution is slightly slower vs the current solution when k=1, due to additional setup.

The 'Fast' solution: array=list of input, delete=list of values to remove.

        declare -A delk
        for del in "${delete[@]}" ; do delk[$del]=1 ; done
                # Tag items to remove, based on
        for k in "${!array[@]}" ; do
                [ "${delk[${array[$k]}]-}" ] && unset 'array[k]'
        done
                # Compaction
        array=("${array[@]}")

Benchmarked against current solution, from the most-voted answer.

    for target in "${delete[@]}"; do
        for i in "${!array[@]}"; do
            if [[ ${array[i]} = $target ]]; then
                unset 'array[i]'
            fi
        done
    done
    array=("${array[@]}")

Header div stays at top, vertical scrolling div below with scrollbar only attached to that div

Found the flex magic.

Here's an example of how to do a fixed header and a scrollable content. Code:

<!DOCTYPE html>
<html style="height: 100%">
  <head>
    <meta charset=utf-8 />
    <title>Holy Grail</title>
    <!-- Reset browser defaults -->
    <link rel="stylesheet" href="reset.css">
  </head>
  <body style="display: flex; height: 100%; flex-direction: column">
    <div>HEADER<br/>------------
    </div>
    <div style="flex: 1; overflow: auto">
        CONTENT - START<br/>
        <script>
        for (var i=0 ; i<1000 ; ++i) {
          document.write(" Very long content!");
        }
        </script>
        <br/>CONTENT - END
    </div>
  </body>
</html>

* The advantage of the flex solution is that the content is independent of other parts of the layout. For example, the content doesn't need to know height of the header.

For a full Holy Grail implementation (header, footer, nav, side, and content), using flex display, go to here.

How to advance to the next form input when the current input has a value?

you just need to give focus to the next input field (by invoking focus()method on that input element), for example if you're using jQuery this code will simulate the tab key when enter is pressed:

var inputs = $(':input').keypress(function(e){
    if (e.which == 13) {
       e.preventDefault();
       var nextInput = inputs.get(inputs.index(this) + 1);
       if (nextInput) {
          nextInput.focus();
       }
    }
});

Android studio takes too much memory

To run Android envirorment on low configuration machine.

  1. Close the uncessesory web tabs in browser
  2. For Antivirus users, exclude the build folder which is auto generated
  3. Android studio have 1.2 Gb default heap can decrease to 512 MB

Help > Edit custom VM options

studio.vmoptions
 -Xmx512m

Layouts performace will be speed up

  1. For Gradle one of the core component in Android studio Mkae sure like right now 3.0beta is latest one

Below tips can affect the code quality so please use with cautions:

  1. Studio contain Power safe Mode when turned on it will close background operations that lint , code complelitions and so on.

  2. You can run manually lint check when needed ./gradlew lint

  3. Most of are using Android emulators on average it consume 2 GB RAM so if possible use actual Android device these will reduce your resource load on your computer. Alternatively you can reduce the RAM of the emulator and it will automatically reduce the virtual memory consumption on your computer. you can find this in virtual device configuration and advance setting.

  4. Gradle offline mode is a feature for bandwidth limited users to disable the downloading of build dependencies. It will reduce the background operation that will help to increase the performance of Android studio.

  5. Android studio offers an optimization to compile multiple modules in parallel. On low RAM machines this feature will likely have a negative impact on the performance. You can disable it in the compiler settings dialog.

How to print a string in C++

You can't call "printf" with a std::string in parameter. The "%s" is designed for C-style string : char* or char []. In C++ you can do like that :

#include <iostream>
std::cout << YourString << std::endl;

If you absolutely want to use printf, you can use the "c_str()" method that give a char* representation of your string.

printf("%s\n",YourString.c_str())

WPF Datagrid set selected row

I came across this fairly recent (compared to the age of the question) TechNet article that includes some of the best techniques I could find on the topic:

WPF: Programmatically Selecting and Focusing a Row or Cell in a DataGrid

It includes details that should cover most requirements. It is important to remember that if you specify custom templates for the DataGridRow for some rows that these won't have DataGridCells inside and then the normal selection mechanisms of the grid doesn't work.

You'll need to be more specific on what datasource you've given the grid to answer the first part of your question, as the others have stated.

How to use CURL via a proxy?

Here is a working version with your bugs removed.

$url = 'http://dynupdate.no-ip.com/ip.php';
$proxy = '127.0.0.1:8888';
//$proxyauth = 'user:password';

$ch = curl_init();
curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_URL,$url);
curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_PROXY, $proxy);
//curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_PROXYUSERPWD, $proxyauth);
curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_FOLLOWLOCATION, 1);
curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER, 1);
curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_HEADER, 1);
$curl_scraped_page = curl_exec($ch);
curl_close($ch);

echo $curl_scraped_page;

I have added CURLOPT_PROXYUSERPWD in case any of your proxies require a user name and password. I set CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER to 1, so that the data will be returned to $curl_scraped_page variable.

I removed a second extra curl_exec($ch); which would stop the variable being returned. I consolidated your proxy IP and port into one setting.

I also removed CURLOPT_HTTPPROXYTUNNEL and CURLOPT_CUSTOMREQUEST as it was the default.

If you don't want the headers returned, comment out CURLOPT_HEADER.

To disable the proxy simply set it to null.

curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_PROXY, null);

Any questions feel free to ask, I work with cURL every day.

Visual Studio 2010 - recommended extensions

Code Contracts Editor Extensions, a free extension which provides information about inherited contracts for the method you're currently working on, and a list of contracts for any methods that you're calling. Unfortunately, the latter feature conflicts with Resharper, but the former still works fine.

Unable to launch the IIS Express Web server, Failed to register URL, Access is denied

When using Visual Studio 2015 the solution can be a bit different to the previous answers. VS2015 creates a hidden folder .vs under the same folder as your solution file. Under this is a config folder containing applicationhost.config. Deleting this file (or the entire .vs folder) then starting VS2015 to recreate it can fix this error.

How to print something to the console in Xcode?

In some environments, NSLog() will be unresponsive. But there are other ways to get output...

NSString* url = @"someurlstring";
printf("%s", [url UTF8String]);

By using printf with the appropriate parameters, we can display things this way. This is the only way I have found to work on online Objective-C sandbox environments.

programming a servo thru a barometer

You could define a mapping of air pressure to servo angle, for example:

def calc_angle(pressure, min_p=1000, max_p=1200):     return 360 * ((pressure - min_p) / float(max_p - min_p))  angle = calc_angle(pressure)

This will linearly convert pressure values between min_p and max_p to angles between 0 and 360 (you could include min_a and max_a to constrain the angle, too).

To pick a data structure, I wouldn't use a list but you could look up values in a dictionary:

d = {1000:0, 1001: 1.8, ...}  angle = d[pressure]

but this would be rather time-consuming to type out!

How to use variables in SQL statement in Python?

The syntax for providing a single value can be confusing for inexperienced Python users.

Given the query

INSERT INTO mytable (fruit) VALUES (%s)

The value passed to cursor.execute must still be a tuple even though it is a singleton, so we must provide a single element tuple, like this: (value,).

cursor.execute("""INSERT INTO mytable (fruit) VALUES (%s)""", ('apple',))

Python: SyntaxError: non-keyword after keyword arg

It's just what it says:

inputFile = open((x), encoding = "utf8", "r")

You have specified encoding as a keyword argument, but "r" as a positional argument. You can't have positional arguments after keyword arguments. Perhaps you wanted to do:

inputFile = open((x), "r", encoding = "utf8")

How to run only one unit test class using Gradle

In case you have a multi-module project :

let us say your module structure is

root-module
 -> a-module
 -> b-module

and the test(testToRun) you are looking to run is in b-module, with full path : com.xyz.b.module.TestClass.testToRun

As here you are interested to run the test in b-module, so you should see the tasks available for b-module.

./gradlew :b-module:tasks

The above command will list all tasks in b-module with description. And in ideal case, you will have a task named test to run the unit tests in that module.

./gradlew :b-module:test

Now, you have reached the point for running all the tests in b-module, finally you can pass a parameter to the above task to run tests which matches the certain path pattern

./gradlew :b-module:test --tests "com.xyz.b.module.TestClass.testToRun"

Now, instead of this if you run

./gradlew test --tests "com.xyz.b.module.TestClass.testToRun"

It will run the test task for both module a and b, which might result in failure as there is nothing matching the above pattern in a-module.

How to set cookie value with AJAX request?

Basically, ajax request as well as synchronous request sends your document cookies automatically. So, you need to set your cookie to document, not to request. However, your request is cross-domain, and things became more complicated. Basing on this answer, additionally to set document cookie, you should allow its sending to cross-domain environment:

type: "GET",
url: "http://example.com",
cache: false,
// NO setCookies option available, set cookie to document
//setCookies: "lkfh89asdhjahska7al446dfg5kgfbfgdhfdbfgcvbcbc dfskljvdfhpl",
crossDomain: true,
dataType: 'json',
xhrFields: {
    withCredentials: true
},
success: function (data) {
    alert(data);
});

Lists: Count vs Count()

myList.Count is a method on the list object, it just returns the value of a field so is very fast. As it is a small method it is very likely to be inlined by the compiler (or runtime), they may then allow other optimization to be done by the compiler.

myList.Count() is calling an extension method (introduced by LINQ) that loops over all the items in an IEnumerable, so should be a lot slower.

However (In the Microsoft implementation) the Count extension method has a “special case” for Lists that allows it to use the list’s Count property, this means the Count() method is only a little slower than the Count property.

It is unlikely you will be able to tell the difference in speed in most applications.

So if you know you are dealing with a List use the Count property, otherwise if you have a "unknown" IEnumerabl, use the Count() method and let it optimise for you.

What's "this" in JavaScript onclick?

this referes to the object the onclick method belongs to. So inside func this would be the DOM node of the a element and this.innerText would be here.

bootstrap popover not showing on top of all elements

I just had a situation that was similar to this, involving the DataTables JQuery library with scrolling enabled.

What turned out to be had nothing to do with Z-indices, but with one of the enclosing divs having the CSS overflow property set as hidden.

I fixed it by adding an event to my element triggering the popover which also changed the overflow property of the responsible div to visible.

How can I get the console logs from the iOS Simulator?

You should not rely on instruments -s. The officially supported tool for working with Simulators from the command line is xcrun simctl.

The log directory for a device can be found with xcrun simctl getenv booted SIMULATOR_LOG_ROOT. This will always be correct even if the location changes.

Now that things are moving to os_log it is easier to open Console.app on the host Mac. Booted simulators should show up as a log source on the left, just like physical devices. You can also run log commands in the booted simulator:

# os_log equivalent of tail -f
xcrun simctl spawn booted log stream --level=debug

# filter log output
xcrun simctl spawn booted log stream --predicate 'processImagePath endswith "myapp"'
xcrun simctl spawn booted log stream --predicate 'eventMessage contains "error" and messageType == info'

# a log dump that Console.app can open
xcrun simctl spawn booted log collect

# open location where log collect will write the dump
cd `xcrun simctl getenv booted SIMULATOR_SHARED_RESOURCES_DIRECTORY`

If you want to use Safari Developer tools (including the JS console) with a webpage in the Simulator: Start one of the simulators, open Safari, then go to Safari on your mac and you should see Simulator in the menu.

You can open a URL in the Simulator by dragging it from the Safari address bar and dropping on the Simulator window. You can also use xcrun simctl openurl booted <url>.

php convert datetime to UTC

As strtotime requires specific input format, DateTime::createFromFormat could be used (php 5.3+ is required)

// set timezone to user timezone
date_default_timezone_set($str_user_timezone);

// create date object using any given format
$date = DateTime::createFromFormat($str_user_dateformat, $str_user_datetime);

// convert given datetime to safe format for strtotime
$str_user_datetime = $date->format('Y-m-d H:i:s');

// convert to UTC
$str_UTC_datetime = gmdate($str_server_dateformat, strtotime($str_user_datetime));

// return timezone to server default
date_default_timezone_set($str_server_timezone);

Can I force a page break in HTML printing?

@Chris Doggett makes perfect sense. Although, I found one funny trick on lvsys.com, and it actually works on firefox and chrome. Just put this comment anywhere you want the page-break to be inserted. You can also replace the <p> tag with any block element.

How to simulate a real mouse click using java?

Well I had the same exact requirement, and Robot class is perfectly fine for me. It works on windows 7 and XP (tried java 6 & 7).

public static void click(int x, int y) throws AWTException{
    Robot bot = new Robot();
    bot.mouseMove(x, y);
    bot.mousePress(InputEvent.BUTTON1_DOWN_MASK);
    bot.mouseRelease(InputEvent.BUTTON1_DOWN_MASK);
}

May be you could share the name of the program that is rejecting your click?

How do you install Google frameworks (Play, Accounts, etc.) on a Genymotion virtual device?

Try to do all the steps specified in the link below and before that upgrade VirtualBox to 4.2 by following the instructions in VirtualBox 4.2.0 Released With Support For Drag'n'drop From Host To Linux Guests, More. Then upgrade Genymotion to the latest version.

Go to the desktop and run Genymotion. Select a virtual device with Android version 4.2 and then drag and drop the two files Genymotion-ARM-Translation_v1.1.zip first. Then Genymotion will show progress and after this it will promt a dialog. Then click OK and it will ask to reboot the device. Restart ADB. Do the same steps for the second file, gapps-jb-20130812-signed.zip and restart ADB.

I hope this will resolve the issue. Check this link - it explains it clearer.

How to split one string into multiple variables in bash shell?

If your solution doesn't have to be general, i.e. only needs to work for strings like your example, you could do:

var1=$(echo $STR | cut -f1 -d-)
var2=$(echo $STR | cut -f2 -d-)

I chose cut here because you could simply extend the code for a few more variables...

<img src="data:image/png;base64,iVBOR...kSuQmCC">

You can do it with your code or to use one of online converters, e.g. https://www.base64-image.de/

Compile valid html code from html fragment + css

  1. I had to get a fragment of my html document (I just appiled .html() method on jQuery selector).
  2. Then I've read the content of the relevant css file.

Using this two values (stored in variables html and css accordingly) I've compiled a valid html code using Template string

var htmlContent = `
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
  <head>
    <style>
      ${css}
    </style>
  </head>
  <body id=direct-sellers-bill>
    ${html}
  </body>
</html>`

and passed it to create method of html-pdf.

PHP preg_match - only allow alphanumeric strings and - _ characters

\w\- is probably the best but here just another alternative
Use [:alnum:]

if(!preg_match("/[^[:alnum:]\-_]/",$str)) echo "valid";

CSS styling in Django forms

You can do like this:

class ContactForm(forms.Form):
    subject = forms.CharField(max_length=100)
    subject.widget.attrs.update({'id' : 'your_id'})

Hope that works.

Use a LIKE statement on SQL Server XML Datatype

Another option is to search the XML as a string by converting it to a string and then using LIKE. However as a computed column can't be part of a WHERE clause you need to wrap it in another SELECT like this:

SELECT * FROM
    (SELECT *, CONVERT(varchar(MAX), [COLUMNA]) as [XMLDataString] FROM TABLE) x
WHERE [XMLDataString] like '%Test%'

What is this Javascript "require"?

So what is this "require?"

require() is not part of the standard JavaScript API. But in Node.js, it's a built-in function with a special purpose: to load modules.

Modules are a way to split an application into separate files instead of having all of your application in one file. This concept is also present in other languages with minor differences in syntax and behavior, like C's include, Python's import, and so on.

One big difference between Node.js modules and browser JavaScript is how one script's code is accessed from another script's code.

  • In browser JavaScript, scripts are added via the <script> element. When they execute, they all have direct access to the global scope, a "shared space" among all scripts. Any script can freely define/modify/remove/call anything on the global scope.

  • In Node.js, each module has its own scope. A module cannot directly access things defined in another module unless it chooses to expose them. To expose things from a module, they must be assigned to exports or module.exports. For a module to access another module's exports or module.exports, it must use require().

In your code, var pg = require('pg'); loads the pg module, a PostgreSQL client for Node.js. This allows your code to access functionality of the PostgreSQL client's APIs via the pg variable.

Why does it work in node but not in a webpage?

require(), module.exports and exports are APIs of a module system that is specific to Node.js. Browsers do not implement this module system.

Also, before I got it to work in node, I had to do npm install pg. What's that about?

NPM is a package repository service that hosts published JavaScript modules. npm install is a command that lets you download packages from their repository.

Where did it put it, and how does Javascript find it?

The npm cli puts all the downloaded modules in a node_modules directory where you ran npm install. Node.js has very detailed documentation on how modules find other modules which includes finding a node_modules directory.

How to avoid scientific notation for large numbers in JavaScript?

function printInt(n) { return n.toPrecision(100).replace(/\..*/,""); }

with some issues:

  • 0.9 is displayed as "0"
  • -0.9 is displayed as "-0"
  • 1e100 is displayed as "1"
  • works only for numbers up to ~1e99 => use other constant for greater numbers; or smaller for optimization.

Update records using LINQ

Yes, you have to get all records, update them and then call SaveChanges.

Avoid duplicates in INSERT INTO SELECT query in SQL Server

Using NOT EXISTS:

INSERT INTO TABLE_2
  (id, name)
SELECT t1.id,
       t1.name
  FROM TABLE_1 t1
 WHERE NOT EXISTS(SELECT id
                    FROM TABLE_2 t2
                   WHERE t2.id = t1.id)

Using NOT IN:

INSERT INTO TABLE_2
  (id, name)
SELECT t1.id,
       t1.name
  FROM TABLE_1 t1
 WHERE t1.id NOT IN (SELECT id
                       FROM TABLE_2)

Using LEFT JOIN/IS NULL:

INSERT INTO TABLE_2
  (id, name)
   SELECT t1.id,
          t1.name
     FROM TABLE_1 t1
LEFT JOIN TABLE_2 t2 ON t2.id = t1.id
    WHERE t2.id IS NULL

Of the three options, the LEFT JOIN/IS NULL is less efficient. See this link for more details.

How to block users from closing a window in Javascript?

It's poor practice to force the user to do something they don't necessarily want to do. You can't ever really prevent them from closing the browser.

You can achieve a similar effect, though, by making a div on your current web page to layer over top the rest of your controls so your form is the only thing accessible.

Difference between "enqueue" and "dequeue"

In my opinion one of the worst chosen word's to describe the process, as it is not related to anything in real-life or similar. In general the word "queue" is very bad as if pronounced, it sounds like the English character "q". See the inefficiency here?

enqueue: to place something into a queue; to add an element to the tail of a queue;

dequeue to take something out of a queue; to remove the first available element from the head of a queue

enable cors in .htaccess

I tried @abimelex solution, but in Slim 3.0, mapping the OPTIONS requests goes like:

$app = new \Slim\App();
$app->options('/books/{id}', function ($request, $response, $args) {
    // Return response headers
});

ASP.net Repeater get current index, pointer, or counter

To display the item number on the repeater you can use the Container.ItemIndex property.

<asp:repeater id="rptRepeater" runat="server">
    <itemtemplate>
        Item <%# Container.ItemIndex + 1 %>| <%# Eval("Column1") %>
    </itemtemplate>
    <separatortemplate>
        <br />
    </separatortemplate>
</asp:repeater>

How to get the GL library/headers?

If you're on Windows, they are installed with the platform SDK (or Visual Studio). However the header files are only compatible with OpenGL 1.1. You need to create function pointers for new functionality it later versions. Can you please clarify what version of OpenGL you're trying to use.

How do you create a yes/no boolean field in SQL server?

bit is the most suitable option. Otherwise I once used int for that purpose. 1 for true & 0 for false.

Html5 Full screen video

Python Script to convert Image into Byte array

with BytesIO() as output:
    from PIL import Image
    with Image.open(filename) as img:
        img.convert('RGB').save(output, 'BMP')
