NSOperation vs Grand Central Dispatch

GCD is indeed lower-level than NSOperationQueue, its major advantage is that its implementation is very light-weight and focused on lock-free algorithms and performance.

NSOperationQueue does provide facilities that are not available in GCD, but they come at non-trivial cost, the implementation of NSOperationQueue is complex and heavy-weight, involves a lot of locking, and uses GCD internally only in a very minimal fashion.

If you need the facilities provided by NSOperationQueue by all means use it, but if GCD is sufficient for your needs, I would recommend using it directly for better performance, significantly lower CPU and power cost and more flexibility.

Post form data using HttpWebRequest

Try this:

var request = (HttpWebRequest)WebRequest.Create("http://www.example.com/recepticle.aspx");

var postData = "thing1=hello";
    postData += "&thing2=world";
var data = Encoding.ASCII.GetBytes(postData);

request.Method = "POST";
request.ContentType = "application/x-www-form-urlencoded";
request.ContentLength = data.Length;

using (var stream = request.GetRequestStream())
{
    stream.Write(data, 0, data.Length);
}

var response = (HttpWebResponse)request.GetResponse();

var responseString = new StreamReader(response.GetResponseStream()).ReadToEnd();

git add remote branch

Here is the complete process to create a local repo and push the changes to new remote branch

  1. Creating local repository:-

    Initially user may have created the local git repository.

    $ git init :- This will make the local folder as Git repository,

  2. Link the remote branch:-

    Now challenge is associate the local git repository with remote master branch.

    $ git remote add RepoName RepoURL

    usage: git remote add []

  3. Test the Remote

    $ git remote show --->Display the remote name

    $ git remote -v --->Display the remote branches

  4. Now Push to remote

    $git add . ----> Add all the files and folder as git staged'

    $git commit -m "Your Commit Message" - - - >Commit the message

    $git push - - - - >Push the changes to the upstream

Command copy exited with code 4 when building - Visual Studio restart solves it

I crossed the same error, but it is not due to the file is locked, but the file is missing.

The reason why VS tried to copy an not existing file, is because of the Post-build event command.

After I cleared that, problem solved.

UPDATE:

As @rhughes commented:

The real issue is how to get the command here to work, rather than to remove it.

and he is absolutely right.

PostgreSQL database default location on Linux

Default in Debian 8.1 and PostgreSQL 9.4 after the installation with the package manager apt-get

ps auxw |  grep postgres | grep -- -D
postgres 17340  0.0  0.5 226700 21756 ?        S    09:50   0:00 /usr/lib/postgresql/9.4/bin/postgres -D /var/lib/postgresql/9.4/main -c config_file=/etc/postgresql/9.4/main/postgresql.conf

so apparently /var/lib/postgresql/9.4/main.

git: How to ignore all present untracked files?

If you want to permanently ignore these files, a simple way to add them to .gitignore is:

  1. Change to the root of the git tree.
  2. git ls-files --others --exclude-standard >> .gitignore

This will enumerate all files inside untracked directories, which may or may not be what you want.

ADB No Devices Found

For the Blu Studio 5.5s ADB drivers, you have to go through this hoop. I am certain it is the same with all Blu phones or maybe for all non-Google mfg phones, I am not sure. First of all if you connect the Blu device with USB cable and USB Debuggin off, you will see that Windows 7 loads a generic driver for you to copy on/off files to the phone and SD storage. This will appear when the USB cable is first plugged in and appears as a device icon under Control Panel, Device Manager, Portable Devices, BLU STUDIO 5.5 S (or the device you are working with). Do not bother getting the hardware ID yet - just observe that this happens (which indicates you are good so far and don't have a bad cable or something).

Go to the phone and switch on USB Debugging in the Developer section of your phone. Notice that an additional item appears as an undefined device now in the device manager list, it will have the yellow exclamation mark and it may have the same name of the phone listed as you saw under Portable Devices. Ignore this item for the moment. Now, without doing anything to the phone (it should be already in USB debug mode) go back to the Portable Devices in Device Manager and right-click the BLU STUDIO 5.5 S or whatever phone you are working with that is listed there without the exclamation mark (listed under Portable Devices). Right click on the icon under Portable Devices, in this example the name that appears is BLU STUDIO 5.5 S. On that icon select Properties, Details, and under the pull down, select Hardware IDs and copy down what you see.

For BLU STUDIO 5.5 S I get:

USB\VID_0BB4&PID_0C02&REV_0216&MI_00
USB\VID_0BB4&PID_0C02&MI_00

(Note if you do this out of turn, the HW ID will be different with the phone USB debugging turned off. You want to copy the value that it changes to when the USB debugging is ON)

Now do as the instructions say above, of course customizing the lines you add the the INF file with those relating to your own phone, not the Nexus 10. Here is what to customize; when you downloaded the SDK you should have a file structure expanded from the ZIP such as this:

\adt-bundle-windows-x86_64-20140321\sdk\extras\google\usb_driver

Find the file named: android_winusb.inf in the usb_driver folder Make a copy of it and name it anything, such as myname.inf Edit the myname.inf and add the lines as instructed above only modified for your particular phone. For example, for the BLU STUDIO 5.5 S, I added the following 2 lines as instructed in the 2 locations as instructed.

;BLU STUDIO 5.5 S
%SingleAdbInterface%        = USB_Install, USB\VID_0BB4&PID_0C02&REV_0216&MI_00
%CompositeAdbInterface%     = USB_Install, USB\VID_0BB4&PID_0C02&MI_00

Note that you add these lines to both the 32 and 64 bit sections, matching how the example in the tutorial reads.

Now go back up to the unknown device that appeared in Device Manager when you switched on device USB debugging and right click on this item (has yellow exclamation mark), right click on it and then select Update Driver Software, and then Browse My Computer, Let Me Pick, click on the Have Disk button and browse to find the myname.inf. Continue to agree to all the prompts warning you it might not be the right driver. As the final step, Windows should have identified the device as Android ADB Interface and once that is done, you should be able to go back, open your CMD window and run the command "adb devices" as instructed in this tutorial and now you should see that the phone is now discovered and communicating.

Now you can go have fun with the adb command.

Angular directive how to add an attribute to the element?

A directive which adds another directive to the same element:

Similar answers:

Here is a plunker: http://plnkr.co/edit/ziU8d826WF6SwQllHHQq?p=preview

app.directive("myDir", function($compile) {
  return {
    priority:1001, // compiles first
    terminal:true, // prevent lower priority directives to compile after it
    compile: function(el) {
      el.removeAttr('my-dir'); // necessary to avoid infinite compile loop
      el.attr('ng-click', 'fxn()');
      var fn = $compile(el);
      return function(scope){
        fn(scope);
      };
    }
  };
});

Much cleaner solution - not to use ngClick at all:

A plunker: http://plnkr.co/edit/jY10enUVm31BwvLkDIAO?p=preview

app.directive("myDir", function($parse) {
  return {
    compile: function(tElm,tAttrs){
      var exp = $parse('fxn()');
      return function (scope,elm){
        elm.bind('click',function(){
          exp(scope);
        });
      };
    }
  };
});

How to handle "Uncaught (in promise) DOMException: play() failed because the user didn't interact with the document first." on Desktop with Chrome 66?

Extend the DOM Element, Handle the Error, and Degrade Gracefully

Below I use the prototype function to wrap the native DOM play function, grab its promise, and then degrade to a play button if the browser throws an exception. This extension addresses the shortcoming of the browser and is plug-n-play in any page with knowledge of the target element(s).

// JavaScript
// Wrap the native DOM audio element play function and handle any autoplay errors
Audio.prototype.play = (function(play) {
return function () {
  var audio = this,
      args = arguments,
      promise = play.apply(audio, args);
  if (promise !== undefined) {
    promise.catch(_ => {
      // Autoplay was prevented. This is optional, but add a button to start playing.
      var el = document.createElement("button");
      el.innerHTML = "Play";
      el.addEventListener("click", function(){play.apply(audio, args);});
      this.parentNode.insertBefore(el, this.nextSibling)
    });
  }
};
})(Audio.prototype.play);

// Try automatically playing our audio via script. This would normally trigger and error.
document.getElementById('MyAudioElement').play()

<!-- HTML -->
<audio id="MyAudioElement" autoplay>

css3 text-shadow in IE9

Yes, but not how you would imagine. According to caniuse (a very good resource) there is no support and no polyfill available for adding text-shadow support to IE9. However, IE has their own proprietary text shadow (detailed here).

Example implementation, taken from their website (works in IE5.5 through IE9):

p.shadow {
    filter: progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.Shadow(color=#0000FF,direction=45);
}

For cross-browser compatibility and future-proofing of code, remember to also use the CSS3 standard text-shadow property (detailed here). This is especially important considering that IE10 has officially announced their intent to drop support for legacy dx filters. Going forward, IE10+ will only support the CSS3 standard text-shadow.

setTimeout in React Native

Write a new function for settimeout. Pls try this.

class CowtanApp extends Component {

}

componentDidMount() {
  this.setTimeout( () => {
     this.setTimePassed();
  },1000);
}

setTimePassed() {
   this.setState({timePassed: true});
}

render() {

if (!this.state.timePassed){
  return <LoadingPage/>;
}else{
  return (
    <NavigatorIOS
      style = {styles.container}
      initialRoute = {{
        component: LoginPage,
        title: 'Sign In',
      }}/>
  );
}

Custom HTTP Authorization Header

No, that is not a valid production according to the "credentials" definition in RFC 2617. You give a valid auth-scheme, but auth-param values must be of the form token "=" ( token | quoted-string ) (see section 1.2), and your example doesn't use "=" that way.

How do you underline a text in Android XML?

<resource>
    <string name="your_string_here">This is an <u>underline</u>.</string>
</resources>

If it does not work then

<resource>
<string name="your_string_here">This is an &lt;u>underline&lt;/u>.</string>

Because "<" could be a keyword at some time.

And for Displaying

TextView textView = (TextView) view.findViewById(R.id.textview);
textView.setText(Html.fromHtml(getString(R.string.your_string_here)));

Element implicitly has an 'any' type because expression of type 'string' can't be used to index

I have made a simulation of the problem. looks like the issue is how we should Access Object Properties Dynamically Using Bracket Notation in Typescript

interface IUserProps {
  name: string;
  age: number;
}

export default class User {
  constructor(private data: IUserProps) {}

  get(propName: string): string | number {
    return this.data[propName as keyof IUserProps];
  }
}

I found a blog that might be helpful to understand this better.

here is a link https://www.nadershamma.dev/blog/2019/how-to-access-object-properties-dynamically-using-bracket-notation-in-typescript/

How can I use optional parameters in a T-SQL stored procedure?

Five years late to the party.

It is mentioned in the provided links of the accepted answer, but I think it deserves an explicit answer on SO - dynamically building the query based on provided parameters. E.g.:

Setup

-- drop table Person
create table Person
(
    PersonId INT NOT NULL IDENTITY(1, 1) CONSTRAINT PK_Person PRIMARY KEY,
    FirstName NVARCHAR(64) NOT NULL,
    LastName NVARCHAR(64) NOT NULL,
    Title NVARCHAR(64) NULL
)
GO

INSERT INTO Person (FirstName, LastName, Title)
VALUES ('Dick', 'Ormsby', 'Mr'), ('Serena', 'Kroeger', 'Ms'),
    ('Marina', 'Losoya', 'Mrs'), ('Shakita', 'Grate', 'Ms'),
    ('Bethann', 'Zellner', 'Ms'), ('Dexter', 'Shaw', 'Mr'),
    ('Zona', 'Halligan', 'Ms'), ('Fiona', 'Cassity', 'Ms'),
    ('Sherron', 'Janowski', 'Ms'), ('Melinda', 'Cormier', 'Ms')
GO

Procedure

ALTER PROCEDURE spDoSearch
    @FirstName varchar(64) = null,
    @LastName varchar(64) = null,
    @Title varchar(64) = null,
    @TopCount INT = 100
AS
BEGIN
    DECLARE @SQL NVARCHAR(4000) = '
        SELECT TOP ' + CAST(@TopCount AS VARCHAR) + ' *
        FROM Person
        WHERE 1 = 1'

    PRINT @SQL

    IF (@FirstName IS NOT NULL) SET @SQL = @SQL + ' AND FirstName = @FirstName'
    IF (@LastName IS NOT NULL) SET @SQL = @SQL + ' AND FirstName = @LastName'
    IF (@Title IS NOT NULL) SET @SQL = @SQL + ' AND Title = @Title'

    EXEC sp_executesql @SQL, N'@TopCount INT, @FirstName varchar(25), @LastName varchar(25), @Title varchar(64)',
         @TopCount, @FirstName, @LastName, @Title
END
GO

Usage

exec spDoSearch @TopCount = 3
exec spDoSearch @FirstName = 'Dick'

Pros:

  • easy to write and understand
  • flexibility - easily generate the query for trickier filterings (e.g. dynamic TOP)

Cons:

  • possible performance problems depending on provided parameters, indexes and data volume

Not direct answer, but related to the problem aka the big picture

Usually, these filtering stored procedures do not float around, but are being called from some service layer. This leaves the option of moving away business logic (filtering) from SQL to service layer.

One example is using LINQ2SQL to generate the query based on provided filters:

    public IList<SomeServiceModel> GetServiceModels(CustomFilter filters)
    {
        var query = DataAccess.SomeRepository.AllNoTracking;

        // partial and insensitive search
        if (!string.IsNullOrWhiteSpace(filters.SomeName))
            query = query.Where(item => item.SomeName.IndexOf(filters.SomeName, StringComparison.OrdinalIgnoreCase) != -1);
        // filter by multiple selection
        if ((filters.CreatedByList?.Count ?? 0) > 0)
            query = query.Where(item => filters.CreatedByList.Contains(item.CreatedById));
        if (filters.EnabledOnly)
            query = query.Where(item => item.IsEnabled);

        var modelList = query.ToList();
        var serviceModelList = MappingService.MapEx<SomeDataModel, SomeServiceModel>(modelList);
        return serviceModelList;
    }

Pros:

  • dynamically generated query based on provided filters. No parameter sniffing or recompile hints needed
  • somewhat easier to write for those in the OOP world
  • typically performance friendly, since "simple" queries will be issued (appropriate indexes are still needed though)

Cons:

  • LINQ2QL limitations may be reached and forcing a downgrade to LINQ2Objects or going back to pure SQL solution depending on the case
  • careless writing of LINQ might generate awful queries (or many queries, if navigation properties loaded)

How to use workbook.saveas with automatic Overwrite

I recommend that before executing SaveAs, delete the file it exists.

If Dir("f:ull\path\with\filename.xls") <> "" Then
    Kill "f:ull\path\with\filename.xls"
End If

It's easier than setting DisplayAlerts off and on, plus if DisplayAlerts remains off due to code crash, it can cause problems if you work with Excel in the same session.

Angular 5, HTML, boolean on checkbox is checked

You can use this:

<input type="checkbox" [checked]="record.status" (change)="changeStatus(record.id,$event)">

Here, record is the model for current row and status is boolean value.

System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Login failed for user

I just ran into this error and it took days to resolve. We were thrown for a loop by the red-herring error message mentioned in the initial question, plus the Windows Event Viewer error log indicated something similar:

Login failed for user '(domain\name-PC)$'. Reason: Could not find a login matching the name provided. [CLIENT: <local machine>]

Neither of these was true, the user had all the necessary permissions in SQL Server.

In our case, the solution was to switch the Application Pool Identity in IIS to NetworkService.

using BETWEEN in WHERE condition

In Codeigniter This is simple Way to check between two date records ...

$start_date='2016-01-01';
$end_date='2016-01-31';

$this->db->where('date BETWEEN "'. date('Y-m-d', strtotime($start_date)). '" and "'. date('Y-m-d', strtotime($end_date)).'"');

PHP String to Float

Well, if user write 1,00,000 then floatvar will show error. So -

floatval(preg_replace("/[^-0-9\.]/","",$input));

This is much more reliable.

Usage :

$input = '1,03,24,23,434,500.6798633 this';
echo floatval(preg_replace("/[^-0-9\.]/","",$input));

PHP Parse HTML code

Use PHP Document Object Model:

<?php
   $str = '<h1>T1</h1>Lorem ipsum.<h1>T2</h1>The quick red fox...<h1>T3</h1>... jumps over the lazy brown FROG';
   $DOM = new DOMDocument;
   $DOM->loadHTML($str);

   //get all H1
   $items = $DOM->getElementsByTagName('h1');

   //display all H1 text
   for ($i = 0; $i < $items->length; $i++)
        echo $items->item($i)->nodeValue . "<br/>";
?>

This outputs as:

 T1
 T2
 T3

[EDIT]: After OP Clarification:

If you want the content like Lorem ipsum. etc, you can directly use this regex:

<?php
   $str = '<h1>T1</h1>Lorem ipsum.<h1>T2</h1>The quick red fox...<h1>T3</h1>... jumps over the lazy brown FROG';
   echo preg_replace("#<h1.*?>.*?</h1>#", "", $str);
?>

this outputs:

Lorem ipsum.The quick red fox...... jumps over the lazy brown FROG

Max value of Xmx and Xms in Eclipse?

I have tried the following config for eclipse.ini:

org.eclipse.epp.package.jee.product
--launcher.defaultAction
openFile
--launcher.XXMaxPermSize
1024M
-showsplash
org.eclipse.platform
--launcher.XXMaxPermSize
1024m
--launcher.defaultAction
openFile
--launcher.appendVmargs
-vmargs
-Dosgi.requiredJavaVersion=1.6
-Xms128m
-Xmx2048m

Now eclipse performance is about 2 times faster then before.

How to convert string to date to string in Swift iOS?

Swift 2 and below

let date = NSDate()
var dateFormatter = NSDateFormatter()
dateFormatter.dateFormat = "MM-dd-yyyy"
var dateString = dateFormatter.stringFromDate(date)
println(dateString)

And in Swift 3 and higher this would now be written as:

let date = Date()
let dateFormatter = DateFormatter()
dateFormatter.dateFormat = "MM-dd-yyyy"
var dateString = dateFormatter.string(from: date)

The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect inside batch

set myPATH="C:\Users\DEB\Downloads\10.1.1.0.4"
cd %myPATH%
  • The single quotes do not indicate a string, they make it starts: 'C:\ instead of C:\ so

  • %name% is the usual syntax for expanding a variable, the !name! syntax needs to be enabled using the command setlocal ENABLEDELAYEDEXPANSION first, or by running the command prompt with CMD /V:ON.

  • Don't use PATH as your name, it is a system name that contains all the locations of executable programs. If you overwrite it, random bits of your script will stop working. If you intend to change it, you need to do set PATH=%PATH%;C:\Users\DEB\Downloads\10.1.1.0.4 to keep the current PATH content, and add something to the end.

Uncaught ReferenceError: $ is not defined error in jQuery

Scripts are loaded in the order you have defined them in the HTML.

Therefore if you first load:

<script type="text/javascript" src="./javascript.js"></script>

without loading jQuery first, then $ is not defined.

You need to first load jQuery so that you can use it.

I would also recommend placing your scripts at the bottom of your HTML for performance reasons.

How to get the file path from URI?

Here is the answer to the question here

Actually we have to get it from the sharable ContentProvider of Camera Application.

EDIT . Copying answer that worked for me

private String getRealPathFromURI(Uri contentUri) {
String[] proj = { MediaStore.Images.Media.DATA };
CursorLoader loader = new CursorLoader(mContext, contentUri, proj, null, null, null);
Cursor cursor = loader.loadInBackground();
int column_index = cursor.getColumnIndexOrThrow(MediaStore.Images.Media.DATA);
cursor.moveToFirst();
String result = cursor.getString(column_index);
cursor.close();
return result;

}

How can I read an input string of unknown length?

If I may suggest a safer approach:

Declare a buffer big enough to hold the string:

char user_input[255];

Get the user input in a safe way:

fgets(user_input, 255, stdin);

A safe way to get the input, the first argument being a pointer to a buffer where the input will be stored, the second the maximum input the function should read and the third is a pointer to the standard input - i.e. where the user input comes from.

Safety in particular comes from the second argument limiting how much will be read which prevents buffer overruns. Also, fgets takes care of null-terminating the processed string.

More info on that function here.

EDIT: If you need to do any formatting (e.g. convert a string to a number), you can use atoi once you have the input.

Paging with Oracle

In my project I used Oracle 12c and java. The paging code looks like this:

 public public List<Map<String, Object>> getAllProductOfferWithPagination(int pageNo, int pageElementSize, Long productOfferId, String productOfferName) {
    try {

        if(pageNo==1){
            //do nothing
        } else{
            pageNo=(pageNo-1)*pageElementSize+1;
        }
        System.out.println("algo pageNo: " + pageNo +"  pageElementSize: "+ pageElementSize+"  productOfferId: "+ productOfferId+"  productOfferName: "+ productOfferName);

        String sql = "SELECT * FROM ( SELECT * FROM product_offer po WHERE po.deleted=0 AND (po.product_offer_id=? OR po.product_offer_name LIKE ? )" +
             " ORDER BY po.PRODUCT_OFFER_ID asc) foo OFFSET ? ROWS FETCH NEXT ? ROWS ONLY ";

       return jdbcTemplate.queryForList(sql,new Object[] {productOfferId,"%"+productOfferName+"%",pageNo-1, pageElementSize});

        System.out.println(e);
        e.printStackTrace();
        return null;

Vue v-on:click does not work on component

Native events of components aren't directly accessible from parent elements. Instead you should try v-on:click.native="testFunction", or you can emit an event from Test component as well. Like v-on:click="$emit('click')".

C# static class constructor

We can create static constructor

static class StaticParent
{
  StaticParent()
  {
    //write your initialization code here

  }

}

and it is always parameter less.

static class StaticParent
{
    static int i =5;
    static StaticParent(int i)  //Gives error
    {
      //write your initialization code here
    }
}

and it doesn't have the access modifier

Is Python faster and lighter than C++?

I think those stats show that Python is much slower and uses more memory for those benchmarks - are you sure you're reading them the right way up?

In my experience, which is mostly with writing network- and file-system-bound programs in Python, Python isn't significantly slower in any way that matters. For that kind of work, its benefits outweigh its costs.

org.apache.catalina.core.StandardContext startInternal SEVERE: Error listenerStart

SEVERE: Error listenerStart

This boils down to that a ServletContextListener which is registered by either @WebListener annotation on the class, or by a <listener> declaration in web.xml, has thrown an unhandled exception inside the contextInitialized() method. This is usually caused by a developer's mistake (a bug) and needs to be fixed. For example, a NullPointerException.

The full exception should be visible in webapp-specific startup log as well as the IDE console, before the particular line which you've copypasted. If there is none and you still can't figure the cause of the exception by just looking at the code, put the entire contextInitialized() code in a try-catch wherein you log the exception to a reliable output and then interpret and fix it accordingly.

Bootstrap 3 Navbar Collapse

If the problem you face is the menu breaking into multiple lines, you can try one of the following:

1) Try to reduce the number of menu items or their length, like removing menu items or shortening the words.

2) Reducing the padding between the menu items, like this:

.navbar .nav > li > a {
padding: 10px 15px 10px; /* Change here the second value for padding-left and padding right */
}

Default padding is 15px both sides (left and right).

If you prefer to change each individual side use:

padding-left: 7px;
padding-right: 8px;

This setting affects the dropdown list too.

This doesn't answer the question but it could help others who don't want to mess with the CSS or using LESS variables. The two common approaches to solve this problem.

What is Python Whitespace and how does it work?

Whitespace is used to denote blocks. In other languages curly brackets ({ and }) are common. When you indent, it becomes a child of the previous line. In addition to the indentation, the parent also has a colon following it.

im_a_parent:
    im_a_child:
        im_a_grandchild
    im_another_child:
        im_another_grand_child

Off the top of my head, def, if, elif, else, try, except, finally, with, for, while, and class all start blocks. To end a block, you simple outdent, and you will have siblings. In the above im_a_child and im_another_child are siblings.

What is the difference between a static and const variable?

A constant value cannot change. A static variable exists to a function, or class, rather than an instance or object.

These two concepts are not mutually exclusive, and can be used together.

Twitter Bootstrap - add top space between rows

Bootstrap3

CSS (gutter only, without margins around):

.row.row-gutter {
  margin-bottom: -15px;
  overflow: hidden;
}
.row.row-gutter > *[class^="col"] {
  margin-bottom: 15px;
}

CSS (equal margins around, 15px/2):

.row.row-margins {
  padding-top: 7px; /* or margin-top: 7px; */
  padding-bottom: 7px; /* or margin-bottom: 7px; */
}
.row.row-margins > *[class^="col"] {
  margin-top: 8px;
  margin-bottom: 8px;
}

Usage:

<div class="row row-gutter">
    <div class="col col-sm-9">first</div>
    <div class="col col-sm-3">second</div>
    <div class="col col-sm-12">third</div>
</div>

(with SASS or LESS 15px could be a variable from bootstrap)

Sublime Docs

what is reverse() in Django

reverse() | Django documentation

Let's suppose that in your urls.py you have defined this:

url(r'^foo$', some_view, name='url_name'),

In a template you can then refer to this url as:

<!-- django <= 1.4 -->
<a href="{% url url_name %}">link which calls some_view</a>

<!-- django >= 1.5 or with {% load url from future %} in your template -->
<a href="{% url 'url_name' %}">link which calls some_view</a>

This will be rendered as:

<a href="/foo/">link which calls some_view</a>

Now say you want to do something similar in your views.py - e.g. you are handling some other url (not /foo/) in some other view (not some_view) and you want to redirect the user to /foo/ (often the case on successful form submission).

You could just do:

return HttpResponseRedirect('/foo/')

But what if you want to change the url in future? You'd have to update your urls.py and all references to it in your code. This violates DRY (Don't Repeat Yourself), the whole idea of editing one place only, which is something to strive for.

Instead, you can say:

from django.urls import reverse
return HttpResponseRedirect(reverse('url_name'))

This looks through all urls defined in your project for the url defined with the name url_name and returns the actual url /foo/.

This means that you refer to the url only by its name attribute - if you want to change the url itself or the view it refers to you can do this by editing one place only - urls.py.

How to solve privileges issues when restore PostgreSQL Database

For people using Google Cloud Platform, any error will stop the import process. Personally I encountered two different errors depending on the pg_dump command I issued :

1- The input is a PostgreSQL custom-format dump. Use the pg_restore command-line client to restore this dump to a database.

Occurs when you've tried to dump your DB in a non plain text format. I.e when the command lacks the -Fp or --format=plain parameter. However, if you add it to your command, you may then encounter the following error :

2- SET SET SET SET SET SET CREATE EXTENSION ERROR: must be owner of extension plpgsql

This is a permission issue I have been unable to fix using the command provided in the GCP docs, the tips from this current thread, or following advice from Google Postgres team here. Which recommended to issue the following command :

pg_dump -Fp --no-acl --no-owner -U myusername myDBName > mydump.sql

The only thing that did the trick in my case was manually editing the dump file and commenting out all commands relating to plpgsql.

I hope this helps GCP-reliant souls.

Update :

It's easier to dump the file commenting out extensions, especially since some dumps can be huge : pg_dump ... | grep -v -E '(CREATE\ EXTENSION|COMMENT\ ON)' > mydump.sql

Which can be narrowed down to plpgsql : pg_dump ... | grep -v -E '(CREATE\ EXTENSION\ IF\ NOT\ EXISTS\ plpgsql|COMMENT\ ON\ EXTENSION\ plpgsql)' > mydump.sql

Closing JFrame with button click

You can use super.dispose() method which is more similar to close operation.

How to select the last record of a table in SQL?

I upvoted Ricardo. Actually max is much efficient than sorting . See the differences. its excellent.

I had to get the last row/update record (timeStamp)

`sqlite> select timeStamp from mypadatav2 order by timeStamp desc limit 1;
 2020-03-11 23:55:00
 Run Time: real 1.806 user 1.689242 sys 0.117062`

`sqlite> select max(timeStamp) from mypadatav2;
 2020-03-11 23:55:00
 Run Time: real 0.553 user 0.412618 sys 0.134340`

Redirect stdout to a file in Python?

import sys
sys.stdout = open('stdout.txt', 'w')

dyld: Library not loaded: /usr/local/lib/libpng16.16.dylib with anything php related

Just in case someone else runs into this problem I solved it by the following

brew update && brew upgrade # installs libpng 1.6

This caused an error with other packages requiring 1.5 which they were built with, so I linked it:

cd /usr/local/lib/
ln -s ../Cellar/libpng/1.5.18/lib/libpng15.15.dylib

Now they are both living in harmony and side by side for the different packages. It would be better to rebuild the packages that depend on 1.5, but this works as a quick bandage fix.

Foreach in a Foreach in MVC View

You have:

foreach (var category in Model.Categories)

and then

@foreach (var product in Model)

Based on that view and model it seems that Model is of type Product if yes then the second foreach is not valid. Actually the first one could be the one that is invalid if you return a collection of Product.

UPDATE:

You are right, I am returning the model of type Product. Also, I do understand what is wrong now that you've pointed it out. How am I supposed to do what I'm trying to do then if I can't do it this way?

I'm surprised your code compiles when you said you are returning a model of Product type. Here's how you can do it:

@foreach (var category in Model)
{
    <h3><u>@category.Name</u></h3>

    <div>
        <ul>
            @foreach (var product in category.Products)
            {
                <li>
                    put the rest of your code
                </li>
            }
        </ul>
    </div>
}

That suggest that instead of returning a Product, you return a collection of Category with Products. Something like this in EF:

// I am typing it here directly
// so I'm not sure if this is the correct syntax.
// I assume you know how to do this,
// anyway this should give you an idea.
context.Categories.Include(o=>o.Product)

C++ undefined reference to defined function

As Paul said, this can be a linker complaint, rather than a compiler error. If you read your build output/logs carefully (may need to look in a separate IDE window to see the full details) you can dell if the problem is from the compiler (needs to be fixed in code) or from the linker (and need to be fixed in the make/cmake/project level to include a missing lib).

How to use paths in tsconfig.json?

This works for me:

 yarn add --dev tsconfig-paths

 ts-node -r tsconfig-paths/register <your-index-file>.ts

This loads all paths in tsconfig.json. A sample tsconfig.json:

{
    "compilerOptions": {
        {…}
        "baseUrl": "./src",
        "paths": {
            "assets/*": [ "assets/*" ],
            "styles/*": [ "styles/*" ]
        }
    },
}

Make sure you have both baseUrl and paths for this to work

And then you can import like :

import {AlarmIcon} from 'assets/icons'

Spring MVC: Complex object as GET @RequestParam

You can absolutely do that, just remove the @RequestParam annotation, Spring will cleanly bind your request parameters to your class instance:

    @RequestParam(value = "page", required = false) int page,
    MyObject myObject)

Time complexity of Euclid's Algorithm

There's a great look at this on the wikipedia article.

It even has a nice plot of complexity for value pairs.

It is not O(a%b).

It is known (see article) that it will never take more steps than five times the number of digits in the smaller number. So the max number of steps grows as the number of digits (ln b). The cost of each step also grows as the number of digits, so the complexity is bound by O(ln^2 b) where b is the smaller number. That's an upper limit, and the actual time is usually less.

Get content uri from file path in android

The accepted solution is probably the best bet for your purposes, but to actually answer the question in the subject line:

In my app, I have to get the path from URIs and get the URI from paths. The former:

/**
 * Gets the corresponding path to a file from the given content:// URI
 * @param selectedVideoUri The content:// URI to find the file path from
 * @param contentResolver The content resolver to use to perform the query.
 * @return the file path as a string
 */
private String getFilePathFromContentUri(Uri selectedVideoUri,
        ContentResolver contentResolver) {
    String filePath;
    String[] filePathColumn = {MediaColumns.DATA};

    Cursor cursor = contentResolver.query(selectedVideoUri, filePathColumn, null, null, null);
    cursor.moveToFirst();

    int columnIndex = cursor.getColumnIndex(filePathColumn[0]);
    filePath = cursor.getString(columnIndex);
    cursor.close();
    return filePath;
}

The latter (which I do for videos, but can also be used for Audio or Files or other types of stored content by substituting MediaStore.Audio (etc) for MediaStore.Video):

/**
 * Gets the MediaStore video ID of a given file on external storage
 * @param filePath The path (on external storage) of the file to resolve the ID of
 * @param contentResolver The content resolver to use to perform the query.
 * @return the video ID as a long
 */
private long getVideoIdFromFilePath(String filePath,
        ContentResolver contentResolver) {

    long videoId;
    Log.d(TAG,"Loading file " + filePath);

            // This returns us content://media/external/videos/media (or something like that)
            // I pass in "external" because that's the MediaStore's name for the external
            // storage on my device (the other possibility is "internal")
    Uri videosUri = MediaStore.Video.Media.getContentUri("external");

    Log.d(TAG,"videosUri = " + videosUri.toString());

    String[] projection = {MediaStore.Video.VideoColumns._ID};

    // TODO This will break if we have no matching item in the MediaStore.
    Cursor cursor = contentResolver.query(videosUri, projection, MediaStore.Video.VideoColumns.DATA + " LIKE ?", new String[] { filePath }, null);
    cursor.moveToFirst();

    int columnIndex = cursor.getColumnIndex(projection[0]);
    videoId = cursor.getLong(columnIndex);

    Log.d(TAG,"Video ID is " + videoId);
    cursor.close();
    return videoId;
}

Basically, the DATA column of MediaStore (or whichever sub-section of it you're querying) stores the file path, so you use that info to look it up.

Tensorflow: how to save/restore a model?

Wherever you want to save the model,

self.saver = tf.train.Saver()
with tf.Session() as sess:
            sess.run(tf.global_variables_initializer())
            ...
            self.saver.save(sess, filename)

Make sure, all your tf.Variable have names, because you may want to restore them later using their names. And where you want to predict,

saver = tf.train.import_meta_graph(filename)
name = 'name given when you saved the file'
with tf.Session() as sess:
      saver.restore(sess, name)
      print(sess.run('W1:0')) #example to retrieve by variable name

Make sure that saver runs inside the corresponding session. Remember that, if you use the tf.train.latest_checkpoint('./'), then only the latest check point will be used.

AngularJS - difference between pristine/dirty and touched/untouched

This is a late answer but hope this might help.

Scenario 1: You visited the site for first time and did not touch any field. The state of form is

ng-untouched and ng-pristine

Scenario 2: You are currently entering the values in a particular field in the form. Then the state is

ng-untouched and ng-dirty

Scenario 3: You are done with entering the values in the field and moved to next field

ng-touched and ng-dirty

Scenario 4: Say a form has a phone number field . You have entered the number but you have actually entered 9 digits but there are 10 digits required for a phone number.Then the state is ng-invalid

In short:

ng-untouched:When the form field has not been visited yet

ng-touched: When the form field is visited AND the field has lost focus

ng-pristine: The form field value is not changed

ng-dirty: The form field value is changed

ng-valid : When all validations of form fields are successful

ng-invalid: When all validations of form fields are not successful

Python: Passing variables between functions

This is what is actually happening:

global_list = []

def defineAList():
    local_list = ['1','2','3']
    print "For checking purposes: in defineAList, list is", local_list
    return local_list

def useTheList(passed_list):
    print "For checking purposes: in useTheList, list is", passed_list

def main():
    # returned list is ignored
    returned_list = defineAList()

    # passed_list inside useTheList is set to global_list
    useTheList(global_list)

main()

This is what you want:

def defineAList():
    local_list = ['1','2','3']
    print "For checking purposes: in defineAList, list is", local_list
    return local_list

def useTheList(passed_list):
    print "For checking purposes: in useTheList, list is", passed_list

def main():
    # returned list is ignored
    returned_list = defineAList()

    # passed_list inside useTheList is set to what is returned from defineAList
    useTheList(returned_list)

main()

You can even skip the temporary returned_list and pass the returned value directly to useTheList:

def main():
    # passed_list inside useTheList is set to what is returned from defineAList
    useTheList(defineAList())

Serializing with Jackson (JSON) - getting "No serializer found"?

If you use Lomdok libraray (https://projectlombok.org/) then add @Data (https://projectlombok.org/features/Data) annotation to your data object class.

sorting a vector of structs

As others have mentioned, you could use a comparison function, but you can also overload the < operator and the default less<T> functor will work as well:

struct data {
    string word;
    int number;
    bool operator < (const data& rhs) const {
        return word.size() < rhs.word.size();
    }
};

Then it's just:

std::sort(info.begin(), info.end());

Edit

As James McNellis pointed out, sort does not actually use the less<T> functor by default. However, the rest of the statement that the less<T> functor will work as well is still correct, which means that if you wanted to put struct datas into a std::map or std::set this would still work, but the other answers which provide a comparison function would need additional code to work with either.

Is there a way to get a <button> element to link to a location without wrapping it in an <a href ... tag?

Although, it's been a while since I've touched JavaScript - maybe location.href is outdated? Anyways, that's how I would do it.

Extracting double-digit months and days from a Python date

Look at the types of those properties:

In [1]: import datetime

In [2]: d = datetime.date.today()

In [3]: type(d.month)
Out[3]: <type 'int'>

In [4]: type(d.day)
Out[4]: <type 'int'>

Both are integers. So there is no automatic way to do what you want. So in the narrow sense, the answer to your question is no.

If you want leading zeroes, you'll have to format them one way or another. For that you have several options:

In [5]: '{:02d}'.format(d.month)
Out[5]: '03'

In [6]: '%02d' % d.month
Out[6]: '03'

In [7]: d.strftime('%m')
Out[7]: '03'

In [8]: f'{d.month:02d}'
Out[8]: '03'

How to return an array from a function?

how can i return a array in a c++ method and how must i declare it? int[] test(void); ??

This sounds like a simple question, but in C++ you have quite a few options. Firstly, you should prefer...

  • std::vector<>, which grows dynamically to however many elements you encounter at runtime, or

  • std::array<> (introduced with C++11), which always stores a number of elements specified at compile time,

...as they manage memory for you, ensuring correct behaviour and simplifying things considerably:

std::vector<int> fn()
{
    std::vector<int> x;
    x.push_back(10);
    return x;
}

std::array<int, 2> fn2()  // C++11
{
    return {3, 4};
}

void caller()
{
    std::vector<int> a = fn();
    const std::vector<int>& b = fn(); // extend lifetime but read-only
                                      // b valid until scope exit/return

    std::array<int, 2> c = fn2();
    const std::array<int, 2>& d = fn2();
}

The practice of creating a const reference to the returned data can sometimes avoid a copy, but normally you can just rely on Return Value Optimisation, or - for vector but not array - move semantics (introduced with C++11).

If you really want to use an inbuilt array (as distinct from the Standard library class called array mentioned above), one way is for the caller to reserve space and tell the function to use it:

void fn(int x[], int n)
{
    for (int i = 0; i < n; ++i)
        x[i] = n;
}

void caller()
{
    // local space on the stack - destroyed when caller() returns
    int x[10];
    fn(x, sizeof x / sizeof x[0]);

    // or, use the heap, lives until delete[](p) called...
    int* p = new int[10];
    fn(p, 10);
}

Another option is to wrap the array in a structure, which - unlike raw arrays - are legal to return by value from a function:

struct X
{
    int x[10];
};

X fn()
{
    X x;
    x.x[0] = 10;
    // ...
    return x;
}

void caller()
{
    X x = fn();
}

Starting with the above, if you're stuck using C++03 you might want to generalise it into something closer to the C++11 std::array:

template <typename T, size_t N>
struct array
{
    T& operator[](size_t n) { return x[n]; }
    const T& operator[](size_t n) const { return x[n]; }
    size_t size() const { return N; }
    // iterators, constructors etc....
  private:
    T x[N];
};

Another option is to have the called function allocate memory on the heap:

int* fn()
{
    int* p = new int[2];
    p[0] = 0;
    p[1] = 1;
    return p;
}

void caller()
{
    int* p = fn();
    // use p...
    delete[] p;
}

To help simplify the management of heap objects, many C++ programmers use "smart pointers" that ensure deletion when the pointer(s) to the object leave their scopes. With C++11:

std::shared_ptr<int> p(new int[2], [](int* p) { delete[] p; } );
std::unique_ptr<int[]> p(new int[3]);

If you're stuck on C++03, the best option is to see if the boost library is available on your machine: it provides boost::shared_array.

Yet another option is to have some static memory reserved by fn(), though this is NOT THREAD SAFE, and means each call to fn() overwrites the data seen by anyone keeping pointers from previous calls. That said, it can be convenient (and fast) for simple single-threaded code.

int* fn(int n)
{
    static int x[2]; // clobbered by each call to fn()
    x[0] = n;
    x[1] = n + 1;
    return x; // every call to fn() returns a pointer to the same static x memory
}

void caller()
{
    int* p = fn(3);
    // use p, hoping no other thread calls fn() meanwhile and clobbers the values...
    // no clean up necessary...
}

Bash script - variable content as a command to run

Your are probably looking for eval $var.

Starting a shell in the Docker Alpine container

Nowadays, Alpine images will boot directly into /bin/sh by default, without having to specify a shell to execute:

$ sudo docker run -it --rm alpine
/ # echo $0
/bin/sh

This is since the alpine image Dockerfiles now contain a CMD command, that specifies the shell to execute when the container starts: CMD ["/bin/sh"].

In older Alpine image versions (pre-2017), the CMD command was not used, since Docker used to create an additional layer for CMD which caused the image size to increase. This is something that the Alpine image developers wanted to avoid. In recent Docker versions (1.10+), CMD no longer occupies a layer, and so it was added to alpine images. MySQL IF ELSEIF in select query

As per Nawfal's answer, IF statements need to be in a procedure. I found this post that shows a brilliant example of using your script in a procedure while still developing and testing. Basically, you create, call then drop the procedure:

warning: assignment makes integer from pointer without a cast

What Jeremiah said, plus the compiler issues the warning because the production:

*src ="anotherstring";

says: take the address of "anotherstring" -- "anotherstring" IS a char pointer -- and store that pointer indirect through src (*src = ... ) into the first char of the string "abcdef..." The warning might be baffling because there is nowhere in your code any mention of any integer: the warning seems nonsensical. But, out of sight behind the curtain, is the rule that "int" and "char" are synonymous in terms of storage: both occupy the same number of bits. The compiler doesn't differentiate when it issues the warning that you are storing into an integer. Which, BTW, is perfectly OK and legal but probably not exactly what you want in this code.

Difference between Visual Basic 6.0 and VBA

It's VBA. VBA means Visual Basic for Applications, and it is used for macros on Office documents. It doesn't have access to VB.NET features, so it's more like a modified version of VB6, with add-ons to be able to work on the document (like Worksheet in VBA for Excel).

Placing an image to the top right corner - CSS

While looking at the same problem, I found an example

<style type="text/css">
#topright {
    position: absolute;
    right: 0;
    top: 0;
    display: block;
    height: 125px;
    width: 125px;
    background: url(TRbanner.gif) no-repeat;
    text-indent: -999em;
    text-decoration: none;
}
</style>

<a id="topright" href="#" title="TopRight">Top Right Link Text</a>

The trick here is to create a small, (I used GIMP) a PNG (or GIF) that has a transparent background, (and then just delete the opposite bottom corner.)

Parsing JSON objects for HTML table

This post is very much helpful to all of you

First Parse the json data by using jquery eval parser and then iterarate through jquery each function below is the code sniplet:

                var obj = eval("(" + data.d + ")");

                alert(obj);
                $.each(obj, function (index,Object) {

                    var Id = Object.Id;
                    var AptYear = Object.AptYear;
                    $("#ddlyear").append('<option value=' + Id + '>' + AptYear + '</option>').toString();
                });

Update multiple values in a single statement

Why are you doing a group by on an update statement? Are you sure that's not the part that's causing the query to fail? Try this:

update
    MasterTbl
set
    TotalX = Sum(DetailTbl.X),
    TotalY = Sum(DetailTbl.Y),
    TotalZ = Sum(DetailTbl.Z)
from
    DetailTbl
where
    DetailTbl.MasterID = MasterID

Unable to connect to SQL Server instance remotely

I know this is almost 1.5 years old, but I hope I can help someone with what I found.

I had built both a console app and a UWP app and my console connnected fine, but not my UWP. Time part of a DateTime Field in SQL

you can use CONVERT(TIME,GETDATE()) in this case:

INSERT INTO infoTbl
(itDate, itTime)
VALUES (GETDATE(),CONVERT(TIME,GETDATE()))

or if you want print it or return that time use like this:

DECLARE @dt TIME
SET @dt = CONVERT(TIME,GETDATE())
PRINT @dt

HTML: how to make 2 tables with different CSS

You need to assign different classes to each table.

Create a class in CSS with the dot '.' operator and write your properties inside each class. For example,

.table1 {
//some properties
}

.table2 {
//Some other properties
}

and use them in your html code.

Easiest way to develop simple GUI in Python

I would recommend wxpython. It's very easy to use and the documentation is pretty good.

Google Maps Android API v2 - Interactive InfoWindow (like in original android google maps)

For those who couldn't get choose007's answer up and running

If clickListener is not working properly at all times in chose007's solution, try to implement View.onTouchListener instead of clickListener. Handle touch event using any of the action ACTION_UP or ACTION_DOWN. For some reason, maps infoWindow causes some weird behaviour when dispatching to clickListeners.

infoWindow.findViewById(R.id.my_view).setOnTouchListener(new View.OnTouchListener() {
    @Override
    public boolean onTouch(View v, MotionEvent event) {
          int action = MotionEventCompat.getActionMasked(event);
          switch (action){
                case MotionEvent.ACTION_UP:
                    Log.d(TAG,"a view in info window clicked" );
                    break;
                }
                return true;
          }

Edit : This is how I did it step by step

First inflate your own infowindow (global variable) somewhere in your activity/fragment. Mine is within fragment. Also insure that root view in your infowindow layout is linearlayout (for some reason relativelayout was taking full width of screen in infowindow)

infoWindow = (ViewGroup) getActivity().getLayoutInflater().inflate(R.layout.info_window, null);
/* Other global variables used in below code*/
private HashMap<Marker,YourData> mMarkerYourDataHashMap = new HashMap<>();
private GoogleMap mMap;
private MapWrapperLayout mapWrapperLayout;

Then in onMapReady callback of google maps android api (follow this if you donot know what onMapReady is Maps > Documentation - Getting Started )

   @Override
    public void onMapReady(GoogleMap googleMap) {
       /*mMap is global GoogleMap variable in activity/fragment*/
        mMap = googleMap;
       /*Some function to set map UI settings*/
        setYourMapSettings();

MapWrapperLayout initialization http://stackoverflow.com/questions/14123243/google-maps-android-api-v2- interactive-infowindow-like-in-original-android-go/15040761#15040761 39 - default marker height 20 - offset between the default InfoWindow bottom edge and it's content bottom edge */

        mapWrapperLayout.init(mMap, Utils.getPixelsFromDp(mContext, 39 + 20));

        /*handle marker clicks separately - not necessary*/
       mMap.setOnMarkerClickListener(this);

       mMap.setInfoWindowAdapter(new GoogleMap.InfoWindowAdapter() {
                @Override
                public View getInfoWindow(Marker marker) {
                    return null;
                }

            @Override
            public View getInfoContents(Marker marker) {
                YourData data = mMarkerYourDataHashMap.get(marker);
                setInfoWindow(marker,data);
                mapWrapperLayout.setMarkerWithInfoWindow(marker, infoWindow);
                return infoWindow;
            }
        });
    }

SetInfoWindow method

private void setInfoWindow (final Marker marker, YourData data)
            throws NullPointerException{
        if (data.getVehicleNumber()!=null) {
            ((TextView) infoWindow.findViewById(R.id.VehicelNo))
                    .setText(data.getDeviceId().toString());
        }
        if (data.getSpeed()!=null) {
            ((TextView) infoWindow.findViewById(R.id.txtSpeed))
                    .setText(data.getSpeed());
        }

        //handle dispatched touch event for view click
        infoWindow.findViewById(R.id.any_view).setOnTouchListener(new View.OnTouchListener() {
            @Override
            public boolean onTouch(View v, MotionEvent event) {
                int action = MotionEventCompat.getActionMasked(event);
                switch (action) {
                    case MotionEvent.ACTION_UP:
                        Log.d(TAG,"any_view clicked" );
                        break;
                }
                return true;
            }
        });

Handle marker click separately

    @Override
    public boolean onMarkerClick(Marker marker) {
        Log.d(TAG,"on Marker Click called");
        marker.showInfoWindow();
        CameraPosition cameraPosition = new CameraPosition.Builder()
                .target(marker.getPosition()) // Sets the center of the map to Mountain View
                .zoom(10)
                .build();
        mMap.animateCamera(CameraUpdateFactory.newCameraPosition(cameraPosition),1000,null);
        return true;
    }

Oracle: is there a tool to trace queries, like Profiler for sql server?

I found an easy solution

Step1. connect to DB with an admin user using PLSQL or sqldeveloper or any other query interface

Step2. run the script bellow; in the S.SQL_TEXT column, you will see the executed queries

SELECT
 S.LAST_ACTIVE_TIME,
 S.MODULE,
 S.SQL_FULLTEXT,
 S.SQL_PROFILE,
 S.EXECUTIONS,
 S.LAST_LOAD_TIME,
 S.PARSING_USER_ID,
 S.SERVICE
FROM
 SYS.V_$SQL S,
 SYS.ALL_USERS U
WHERE
 S.PARSING_USER_ID=U.USER_ID
 AND UPPER(U.USERNAME) IN ('oracle user name here')
ORDER BY TO_DATE(S.LAST_LOAD_TIME, 'YYYY-MM-DD/HH24:MI:SS') desc;

The only issue with this is that I can't find a way to show the input parameters values(for function calls), but at least we can see what is ran in Oracle and the order of it without using a specific tool.

What about LineSentence module, it will ignore such lines:

How to write a PHP ternary operator

To be honest, a ternary operator would only make this worse, what i would suggest if making it simpler is what you are aiming at is:

$groups = array(1=>"Player", 2=>"Gamemaster", 3=>"God");
echo($groups[$result->group_id]);

and then a similar one for your vocations

$vocations = array(
  1=>"Sorcerer",
  2=>"Druid",
  3=>"Paladin",
  4=>"Knight",
  ....
);
echo($vocations[$result->vocation]);

With a ternary operator, you would end up with

echo($result->group_id == 1 ? "Player" : ($result->group_id == 2 ? "Gamemaster" : ($result->group_id == 3 ? "God" : "unknown")));

Which as you can tell, only gets more complicated the more you add to it

Last Run Date on a Stored Procedure in SQL Server

In a nutshell, no.

However, there are "nice" things you can do.

  1. Run a profiler trace with, say, the stored proc name
  2. Add a line each proc (create a tabel of course)
    • "INSERT dbo.SPCall (What, When) VALUES (OBJECT_NAME(@@PROCID), GETDATE()"
  3. Extend 2 with duration too

There are "fun" things you can do:

  1. Remove it, see who calls
  2. Remove rights, see who calls
  3. Add RAISERROR ('Warning: pwn3d: call admin', 16, 1), see who calls
  4. Add WAITFOR DELAY '00:01:00', see who calls

You get the idea. The tried-and-tested "see who calls" method of IT support.

If the reports are Reporting Services, then you can mine the RS database for the report runs if you can match code to report DataSet.

You couldn't rely on DMVs anyway because they are reset om SQL Server restart. Query cache/locks are transient and don't persist for any length of time.

AngularJS format JSON string output

You can use an optional parameter of JSON.stringify()

JSON.stringify(value[, replacer [, space]])

Parameters

  • value The value to convert to a JSON string.
  • replacer If a function, transforms values and properties encountered while stringifying; if an array, specifies the set of properties included in objects in the final string. A detailed description of the replacer function is provided in the javaScript guide article Using native JSON.
  • space Causes the resulting string to be pretty-printed.

For example:

JSON.stringify({a:1,b:2,c:{d:3, e:4}},null,"    ")

will give you following result:

"{
    "a": 1,
    "b": 2,
    "c": {
        "d": 3,
        "e": 4
    }
}"

How to include CSS file in Symfony 2 and Twig?

In case you are using Silex add the Symfony Asset as a dependency:

composer require symfony/asset

Then you may register Asset Service Provider:

$app->register(new Silex\Provider\AssetServiceProvider(), array(
    'assets.version' => 'v1',
    'assets.version_format' => '%s?version=%s',
    'assets.named_packages' => array(
        'css' => array(
            'version' => 'css2',
            'base_path' => __DIR__.'/../public_html/resources/css'
        ),
        'images' => array(
            'base_urls' => array(
                'https://img.example.com'
            )
        ),
    ),
));

Then in your Twig template file in head section:

<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
    <meta charset="UTF-8">
    {% block head %}
    <link rel="stylesheet" href="{{ asset('style.css') }}" />
    {% endblock %}
</head>
<body>

</body>
</html>

Best way to get whole number part of a Decimal number

By the way guys, (int)Decimal.MaxValue will overflow. You can't get the "int" part of a decimal because the decimal is too friggen big to put in the int box. Just checked... its even too big for a long (Int64).

If you want the bit of a Decimal value to the LEFT of the dot, you need to do this:

Math.Truncate(number)

and return the value as... A DECIMAL or a DOUBLE.

edit: Truncate is definitely the correct function!

Quickest way to compare two generic lists for differences

More efficient would be using Enumerable.Except:

var inListButNotInList2 = list.Except(list2);
var inList2ButNotInList = list2.Except(list);

This method is implemented by using deferred execution. That means you could write for example:

var first10 = inListButNotInList2.Take(10);

It is also efficient since it internally uses a Set<T> to compare the objects. It works by first collecting all distinct values from the second sequence, and then streaming the results of the first, checking that they haven't been seen before.

2) To fix the IDE build, try the following:

WAMP won't turn green. And the VCRUNTIME140.dll error

Since you already had a running version of WAMP and it stopped working, you probably had VCRUNTIME140.dll already installed. In that case:

  1. Open Programs and Features
  2. Right-click on the respective Microsoft Visual C++ 20xx Redistributable installers and choose "Change"
  3. Choose "Repair". Do this for both x86 and x64

This did the trick for me.

Entity Framework: "Store update, insert, or delete statement affected an unexpected number of rows (0)."

I also had this error. There are some situations where the Entity may not be aware of the actual Database Context you are using or the Model may be different. For this, set: EntityState.Modified; to EntityState.Added;

To do this:

if (ModelState.IsValid)
{
context.Entry(yourModelReference).State = EntityState.Added;
context.SaveChanges();
}

This will ensure the Entity knows youre using or adding the State youre working with. At this point all the correct Model Values need to be set. Careful not to loose any changes that may have been made in the background.

Hope this helps.

Get size of folder or file

If you want to use Java 8 NIO API, the following program will print the size, in bytes, of the directory it is located in.

import java.io.IOException;
import java.nio.file.Files;
import java.nio.file.Path;
import java.nio.file.Paths;

public class PathSize {

    public static void main(String[] args) {
        Path path = Paths.get(".");
        long size = calculateSize(path);
        System.out.println(size);
    }

    /**
     * Returns the size, in bytes, of the specified <tt>path</tt>. If the given
     * path is a regular file, trivially its size is returned. Else the path is
     * a directory and its contents are recursively explored, returning the
     * total sum of all files within the directory.
     * <p>
     * If an I/O exception occurs, it is suppressed within this method and
     * <tt>0</tt> is returned as the size of the specified <tt>path</tt>.
     *
     * @param path path whose size is to be returned
     * @return size of the specified path
     */
    public static long calculateSize(Path path) {
        try {
            if (Files.isRegularFile(path)) {
                return Files.size(path);
            }

            return Files.list(path).mapToLong(PathSize::calculateSize).sum();
        } catch (IOException e) {
            return 0L;
        }
    }

}

The calculateSize method is universal for Path objects, so it also works for files. Note that if a file or directory is inaccessible, in this case the returned size of the path object will be 0.

Undefined behavior and sequence points

C++17 (N4659) includes a proposal Refining Expression Evaluation Order for Idiomatic C++ which defines a stricter order of expression evaluation.

In particular, the following sentence

8.18 Assignment and compound assignment operators:
....

In all cases, the assignment is sequenced after the value computation of the right and left operands, and before the value computation of the assignment expression. The right operand is sequenced before the left operand.

together with the following clarification

An expression X is said to be sequenced before an expression Y if every value computation and every side effect associated with the expression X is sequenced before every value computation and every side effect associated with the expression Y.

make several cases of previously undefined behavior valid, including the one in question:

a[++i] = i;

However several other similar cases still lead to undefined behavior.

In N4140:

i = i++ + 1; // the behavior is undefined

But in N4659

i = i++ + 1; // the value of i is incremented
i = i++ + i; // the behavior is undefined

Of course, using a C++17 compliant compiler does not necessarily mean that one should start writing such expressions.

How can I render HTML from another file in a React component?

If your template.html file is just HTML and not a React component, then you can't require it in the same way you would do with a JS file.

However, if you are using Browserify — there is a transform called stringify which will allow you to require non-js files as strings. Once you have added the transform, you will be able to require HTML files and they will export as though they were just strings.

Once you have required the HTML file, you'll have to inject the HTML string into your component, using the dangerouslySetInnerHTML prop.

var __html = require('./template.html');
var template = { __html: __html };

React.module.exports = React.createClass({
  render: function() {
    return(
      <div dangerouslySetInnerHTML={template} />
    );
  }
});

This goes against a lot of what React is about though. It would be more natural to create your templates as React components with JSX, rather than as regular HTML files.

The JSX syntax makes it trivially easy to express structured data, like HTML, especially when you use stateless function components.

If your template.html file looked something like this

<div class='foo'>
  <h1>Hello</h1>
  <p>Some paragraph text</p>
  <button>Click</button>
</div>

Then you could convert it instead to a JSX file that looked like this.

module.exports = function(props) {
  return (
    <div className='foo'>
      <h1>Hello</h1>
      <p>Some paragraph text</p>
      <button>Click</button>
    </div>
  );
};

Then you can require and use it without needing stringify.

var Template = require('./template');

module.exports = React.createClass({
  render: function() {
    var bar = 'baz';
    return(
      <Template foo={bar}/>
    );
  }
});

It maintains all of the structure of the original file, but leverages the flexibility of React's props model and allows for compile time syntax checking, unlike a regular HTML file.

How to use S_ISREG() and S_ISDIR() POSIX Macros?

You're using S_ISREG() and S_ISDIR() correctly, you're just using them on the wrong thing.

In your while((dit = readdir(dip)) != NULL) loop in main, you're calling stat on currentPath over and over again without changing currentPath:

if(stat(currentPath, &statbuf) == -1) {
    perror("stat");
    return errno;
}

Shouldn't you be appending a slash and dit->d_name to currentPath to get the full path to the file that you want to stat? Methinks that similar changes to your other stat calls are also needed.

How to get controls in WPF to fill available space?

Well, I figured it out myself, right after posting, which is the most embarassing way. :)

It seems every member of a StackPanel will simply fill its minimum requested size.

In the DockPanel, I had docked things in the wrong order. If the TextBox or ListBox is the only docked item without an alignment, or if they are the last added, they WILL fill the remaining space as wanted.

I would love to see a more elegant method of handling this, but it will do.

PHP Checking if the current date is before or after a set date

Here's a list of all possible checks for …

"Did a date pass?"

Possible ways to obtain the value

$date = strtotime( $date );

$date > date( "U" )
$date > mktime( 0, 0, 0 )
$date > strtotime( 'now' )
$date > time()
$date > abs( intval( $_SERVER['REQUEST_TIME'] ) )

Performance Test Result (PHP 5.4.7)

I did some performance test on 1.000.000 iterations and calculated the average – Ordered fastest to slowest.

+---------------------+---------------+
|        method       |     time      |
+---------------------+---------------+
|        time()       | 0.0000006732  |
|       $_SERVER      | 0.0000009131  |
|      date("U")      | 0.0000028951  |
|     mktime(0,0,0)   | 0.000003906   |
|   strtotime("now")  | 0.0000045032  |
| new DateTime("now") | 0.0000053365  |
+---------------------+---------------+

ProTip: You can easily remember what's fastest by simply looking at the length of the function. The longer, the slower the function is.

Performance Test Setup

The following loop was run for each of the above mentioned possibilities. I converted the values to non-scientific notation for easier readability.

$loops = 1000000;
$start = microtime( true );
for ( $i = 0; $i < $loops; $i++ )
    date( "U" );
printf(
    '|    date("U")     | %s  |'."\n",
    rtrim( sprintf( '%.10F', ( microtime( true ) - $start ) / $loops ), '0' )
);

Conclusion

time() still seems to be the fastest.

Android - Spacing between CheckBox and text

If you are creating custom buttons, e.g. see change look of checkbox tutorial

Then simply increase the width of btn_check_label_background.9.png by adding one or two more columns of transparent pixels in the center of the image; leave the 9-patch markers as they are.

Simple GUI Java calculator

Somewhere you have to keep track of what button had been pressed. When things happen, you need to store something in a variable so you can recall the information or it's gone forever.

When someone pressed one of the operator buttons, don't just let them type in another value. Save the operator symbol, then let them type in another value. You could literally just have a String operator that gets the text of the operator button pressed. Then, when the equals button is pressed, you have to check to see which operator you stored. You could do this with an if/else if/else chain.

So, in your symbol's button press event, store the symbol text in a variable, then, in the = button press event, check to see which symbol is in the variable and act accordingly.

Alternatively, if you feel comfortable enough with enums (looks like you're just starting, so if you're not to that point yet, ignore this), you could have an enumeration of symbols that lets you check symbols easily with a switch.

How to append a date in batch files

There is a tech recipe available here that shows how to format it to MMDDYYYY, you should be able to adapt it for your needs.

echo on
@REM Seamonkey’s quick date batch (MMDDYYYY format)
@REM Setups %date variable
@REM First parses month, day, and year into mm , dd, yyyy formats and then combines to be MMDDYYYY
FOR /F "TOKENS=1* DELIMS= " %%A IN ('DATE/T') DO SET CDATE=%%B
FOR /F "TOKENS=1,2 eol=/ DELIMS=/ " %%A IN ('DATE/T') DO SET mm=%%B
FOR /F "TOKENS=1,2 DELIMS=/ eol=/" %%A IN ('echo %CDATE%') DO SET dd=%%B
FOR /F "TOKENS=2,3 DELIMS=/ " %%A IN ('echo %CDATE%') DO SET yyyy=%%B
SET date=%mm%%dd%%yyyy%

echo %date%

EDIT: The reason did not work before was because of 'smartquotes' in the original text. I fixed them and the batch file will work if cut & pasted from this page.

Error: Failed to execute 'appendChild' on 'Node': parameter 1 is not of type 'Node'

It's actually a simple answer.

Your function is returning a string rather than the div node. appendChild can only append a node.

For example, if you try to appendChild the string:

var z = '<p>test satu dua tiga</p>'; // is a string
document.body.appendChild(z);

The above code will never work. What will work is:

var z = document.createElement('p'); // is a node
z.innerHTML = 'test satu dua tiga';
document.body.appendChild(z);

How do I clear my local working directory in Git?

To reset a specific file as git status suggests:

git checkout <filename>

To reset a folder

git checkout <foldername>/*

Call Jquery function

To call the function on click of some html element (control).

$('#controlID').click(myFunction);

You will need to ensure you bind the event when your html element is ready on which you binding the event. You can put the code in document.ready

$(document).ready(function(){
    $('#controlID').click(myFunction);
});

You can use anonymous function to bind the event to the html element.

$(document).ready(function(){
    $('#controlID').click(function(){
         $.messager.show({
            title:'My Title',
            msg:'The message content',
            showType:'fade',
            style:{
                right:'',
                bottom:''
            }
        });
    });
});

If you want to bind click with many elements you can use class selector

$('.someclass').click(myFunction);

Edit based on comments by OP, If you want to call function under some condition

You can use if for conditional execution, for example,

if(a == 3)
     myFunction();

CSS3 :unchecked pseudo-class

:unchecked is not defined in the Selectors or CSS UI level 3 specs, nor has it appeared in level 4 of Selectors.

In fact, the quote from W3C is taken from the Selectors 4 spec. Since Selectors 4 recommends using :not(:checked), it's safe to assume that there is no corresponding :unchecked pseudo. Browser support for :not() and :checked is identical, so that shouldn't be a problem.

This may seem inconsistent with the :enabled and :disabled states, especially since an element can be neither enabled nor disabled (i.e. the semantics completely do not apply), however there does not appear to be any explanation for this inconsistency.

(:indeterminate does not count, because an element can similarly be neither unchecked, checked nor indeterminate because the semantics don't apply.)

Switch case with conditions

This should work with this :

var cnt = $("#div1 p").length;

            switch (true) {
                case (cnt >= 10 && cnt <= 20):
                    alert('10');
                    break;
                case (cnt >= 21 && cnt <= 30):
                   alert('21');
                    break;
                case (cnt >= 31 && cnt <= 40):
                    break;
                default:
                    alert('>41');
            }

Visual Studio move project to a different folder

I wanted the changes in Git to be shown as moves/renames instead of delete & adds. So I did a combo of the above and this post.

mkdir subdirectory
git mv -k ./* ./subdirectory
# check to make sure everything moved (see below)
git commit

And adjust the paths of the projects and of the assemblies from the nuget Pkg's in the sln file via a text editor.

operator << must take exactly one argument

A friend function is not a member function, so the problem is that you declare operator<< as a friend of A:

 friend ostream& operator<<(ostream&, A&);

then try to define it as a member function of the class logic

 ostream& logic::operator<<(ostream& os, A& a)
          ^^^^^^^

Are you confused about whether logic is a class or a namespace?

The error is because you've tried to define a member operator<< taking two arguments, which means it takes three arguments including the implicit this parameter. The operator can only take two arguments, so that when you write a << b the two arguments are a and b.

You want to define ostream& operator<<(ostream&, const A&) as a non-member function, definitely not as a member of logic since it has nothing to do with that class!

std::ostream& operator<<(std::ostream& os, const A& a)
{
  return os << a.number;
}

How to implement a Navbar Dropdown Hover in Bootstrap v4?

Bootstrap 4 CSS-only

None of the CSS only answers work entirely. Either the dropdown menu stays open after click, or there is a gap that makes the dropdown menu hide before you can reach the menu links to click.

Here's the simple CSS only solution:

.navbar-nav li:hover .dropdown-menu {
    display: block;
}

Remove data-toggle=dropdown from the HTML markup to prevent the dropdown staying open in click. Use mt-0 (margin-top:0) to eliminate the gap above the menu, and make it possible to hover the menu items.

Demo https://www.codeply.com/go/awyU7VTIJf

Complete Code:

   .navbar-nav li:hover .dropdown-menu {
        display: block;
    }

   <nav class="navbar navbar-expand-lg navbar-light bg-light">
      ..
      <div class="collapse navbar-collapse" id="navbarSupportedContent">
        <ul class="navbar-nav mr-auto">
          <li class="nav-item dropdown">
            <a class="nav-link dropdown-toggle" href="#" id="navbarDropdown">
              Dropdown
            </a>
            <div class="dropdown-menu mt-0" aria-labelledby="navbarDropdown">
              <a class="dropdown-item" href="#">Action</a>
              <a class="dropdown-item" href="#">Another action</a>
              <div class="dropdown-divider"></div>
              <a class="dropdown-item" href="#">Something else here</a>
            </div>
          </li>
        </ul>
      </div>
    </nav>

How to run multiple Python versions on Windows

When you install Python, it will not overwrite other installs of other major versions. So installing Python 2.5.x will not overwrite Python 2.6.x, although installing 2.6.6 will overwrite 2.6.5.

So you can just install it. Then you call the Python version you want. For example:

C:\Python2.5\Python.exe

for Python 2.5 on windows and

C:\Python2.6\Python.exe

for Python 2.6 on windows, or

/usr/local/bin/python-2.5

or

/usr/local/bin/python-2.6

on Windows Unix (including Linux and OS X).

When you install on Unix (including Linux and OS X) you will get a generic python command installed, which will be the last one you installed. This is mostly not a problem as most scripts will explicitly call /usr/local/bin/python2.5 or something just to protect against that. But if you don't want to do that, and you probably don't you can install it like this:

./configure
make
sudo make altinstall

Note the "altinstall" that means it will install it, but it will not replace the python command.

On Windows you don't get a global python command as far as I know so that's not an issue.

Initializing IEnumerable<string> In C#

IEnumerable<T> is an interface. You need to initiate with a concrete type (that implements IEnumerable<T>). Example:

IEnumerable<string> m_oEnum = new List<string>() { "1", "2", "3"};

What does `void 0` mean?

What does void 0 mean?

void[MDN] is a prefix keyword that takes one argument and always returns undefined.

Examples

void 0
void (0)
void "hello"
void (new Date())
//all will return undefined

What's the point of that?

It seems pretty useless, doesn't it? If it always returns undefined, what's wrong with just using undefined itself?

In a perfect world we would be able to safely just use undefined: it's much simpler and easier to understand than void 0. But in case you've never noticed before, this isn't a perfect world, especially when it comes to Javascript.

The problem with using undefined was that undefined is not a reserved word (it is actually a property of the global object [wtfjs]). That is, undefined is a permissible variable name, so you could assign a new value to it at your own caprice.

alert(undefined); //alerts "undefined"
var undefined = "new value";
alert(undefined) // alerts "new value"

Note: This is no longer a problem in any environment that supports ECMAScript 5 or newer (i.e. in practice everywhere but IE 8), which defines the undefined property of the global object as read-only (so it is only possible to shadow the variable in your own local scope). However, this information is still useful for backwards-compatibility purposes.

alert(window.hasOwnProperty('undefined')); // alerts "true"
alert(window.undefined); // alerts "undefined"
alert(undefined === window.undefined); // alerts "true"
var undefined = "new value";
alert(undefined); // alerts "new value"
alert(undefined === window.undefined); // alerts "false"

void, on the other hand, cannot be overidden. void 0 will always return undefined. undefined, on the other hand, can be whatever Mr. Javascript decides he wants it to be.

Why void 0, specifically?

Why should we use void 0? What's so special about 0? Couldn't we just as easily use 1, or 42, or 1000000 or "Hello, world!"?

And the answer is, yes, we could, and it would work just as well. The only benefit of passing in 0 instead of some other argument is that 0 is short and idiomatic.

Why is this still relevant?

Although undefined can generally be trusted in modern JavaScript environments, there is one trivial advantage of void 0: it's shorter. The difference is not enough to worry about when writing code but it can add up enough over large code bases that most code minifiers replace undefined with void 0 to reduce the number of bytes sent to the browser.

How to change Elasticsearch max memory size

In ElasticSearch >= 5 the documentation has changed, which means none of the above answers worked for me.

I tried changing ES_HEAP_SIZE in /etc/default/elasticsearch and in /etc/init.d/elasticsearch, but when I ran ps aux | grep elasticsearch the output still showed:

I had to make these changes in:

/etc/elasticsearch/jvm.options

# Xms represents the initial size of total heap space
# Xmx represents the maximum size of total heap space

-Xms1g
-Xmx1g
# the settings shipped with ES 5 were: -Xms2g
# the settings shipped with ES 5 were: -Xmx2g

Understanding the Linux oom-killer's logs

Memory management in Linux is a bit tricky to understand, and I can't say I fully understand it yet, but I'll try to share a little bit of my experience and knowledge.

Short answer to your question: Yes there are other stuff included than whats in the list.

What's being shown in your list is applications run in userspace. The kernel uses memory for itself and modules, on top of that it also has a lower limit of free memory that you can't go under. When you've reached that level it will try to free up resources, and when it can't do that anymore, you end up with an OOM problem.

From the last line of your list you can read that the kernel reports a total-vm usage of: 1498536kB (1,5GB), where the total-vm includes both your physical RAM and swap space. You stated you don't have any swap but the kernel seems to think otherwise since your swap space is reported to be full (Total swap = 524284kB, Free swap = 0kB) and it reports a total vmem size of 1,5GB.

Another thing that can complicate things further is memory fragmentation. You can hit the OOM killer when the kernel tries to allocate lets say 4096kB of continous memory, but there are no free ones availible.

Now that alone probably won't help you solve the actual problem. I don't know if it's normal for your program to require that amount of memory, but I would recommend to try a static code analyzer like cppcheck to check for memory leaks or file descriptor leaks. You could also try to run it through Valgrind to get a bit more information out about memory usage.

Convert the first element of an array to a string in PHP

Is there any other way to convert that array into string ?

Yes there is. serialize(). It can convert various data types (including object and arrays) into a string representation which you can unserialize() at a later time. Serializing an associative array such as Array(18 => 'Somthing') will preserve both keys and values:

<?php
$a = array(18 => 'Something');
echo serialize($a);                                   // a:1:{i:18;s:9:"Something";}
var_dump(unserialize('a:1:{i:18;s:9:"Something";}')); // array(1) {
                                                      //   [18]=>
                                                      //   string(9) "Something"
                                                      // }

In C#, can a class inherit from another class and an interface?

No, not exactly. But it can inherit from a class and implement one or more interfaces.

Clear terminology is important when discussing concepts like this. One of the things that you'll see mark out Jon Skeet's writing, for example, both here and in print, is that he is always precise in the way he decribes things.

Is it possible to wait until all javascript files are loaded before executing javascript code?

Thats work for me:

var jsScripts = [];

jsScripts.push("/js/script1.js" );
jsScripts.push("/js/script2.js" );
jsScripts.push("/js/script3.js" );

$(jsScripts).each(function( index, value ) {
    $.holdReady( true );
    $.getScript( value ).done(function(script, status) {
        console.log('Loaded ' + index + ' : ' + value + ' (' + status + ')');
        $.holdReady( false );
    });
});

jQuery: Can I call delay() between addClass() and such?

You can create a new queue item to do your removing of the class:

$("#div").addClass("error").delay(1000).queue(function(next){
    $(this).removeClass("error");
    next();
});

Or using the dequeue method:

$("#div").addClass("error").delay(1000).queue(function(){
    $(this).removeClass("error").dequeue();
});

The reason you need to call next or dequeue is to let jQuery know that you are done with this queued item and that it should move on to the next one.

How do I migrate an SVN repository with history to a new Git repository?

I just wanted to add my contribution to the Git community. I wrote a simple bash script which automates the full import. Unlike other migration tools, this tool relies on native git instead of jGit. This tool also supports repositories with a large revision history and or large blobs. It's available via github:

https://github.com/onepremise/SGMS

This script will convert projects stored in SVN with the following format:

/trunk
  /Project1
  /Project2
/branches
     /Project1
     /Project2
/tags
 /Project1
 /Project2

This scheme is also popular and supported as well:

/Project1
     /trunk
     /branches
     /tags
/Project2
     /trunk
     /branches
     /tags

Each project will get synchronized over by project name:

Ex: ./migration https://svnurl.com/basepath project1

If you wish to convert the full repo over, use the following syntax:

Ex: ./migration https://svnurl.com/basepath .

How do I specify row heights in CSS Grid layout?

One of the Related posts gave me the (simple) answer.

Apparently the auto value on the grid-template-rows property does exactly what I was looking for.

.grid {

    grid-template-columns: 1fr 1.5fr 1fr;
    grid-template-rows: auto auto 1fr 1fr 1fr auto auto;

}

Import text file as single character string

In case anyone is still looking at this question 3 years later, Hadley Wickham's readr package has a handy read_file() function that will do this for you.

library(readr)
mystring <- read_file("path/to/myfile.txt")

Check if starting characters of a string are alphabetical in T-SQL

You don't need to use regex, LIKE is sufficient:

WHERE my_field LIKE '[a-zA-Z][a-zA-Z]%'

Assuming that by "alphabetical" you mean only latin characters, not anything classified as alphabetical in Unicode.

Note - if your collation is case sensitive, it's important to specify the range as [a-zA-Z]. [a-z] may exclude A or Z. [A-Z] may exclude a or z.

Error: free(): invalid next size (fast):

I encountered a similar error. It was a noob mistake done in a hurry. Integer array without declaring size int a[] then trying to access it. C++ compiler should've caught such an error easily if it were in main. However since this particular int array was declared inside an object, it was being created at the same time as my object (many objects were being created) and the compiler was throwing a free(): invalid next size(normal) error. I thought of 2 explanations for this (please enlighten me if anyone knows more): 1.) This resulted in some random memory being assigned to it but since this wasn't accessible it was freeing up all the other heap memory just trying to find this int. 2.) The memory required by it was practically infinite for a program and to assign this it was freeing up all other memory.

A simple:

    int* a;
    class foo{
    foo(){
       for(i=0;i<n;i++)
           a=new int[i];
     }

Solved the problem. But it did take a lot of time trying to debug this because the compiler could not "really" find the error.

Write HTML to string

Use an XDocument to create the DOM, then write it out using an XmlWriter. This will give you a wonderfully concise and readable notation as well as nicely formatted output.

Take this sample program:

using System.Xml;
using System.Xml.Linq;

class Program {
    static void Main() {
        var xDocument = new XDocument(
            new XDocumentType("html", null, null, null),
            new XElement("html",
                new XElement("head"),
                new XElement("body",
                    new XElement("p",
                        "This paragraph contains ", new XElement("b", "bold"), " text."
                    ),
                    new XElement("p",
                        "This paragraph has just plain text."
                    )
                )
            )
        );

        var settings = new XmlWriterSettings {
            OmitXmlDeclaration = true, Indent = true, IndentChars = "\t"
        };
        using (var writer = XmlWriter.Create(@"C:\Users\wolf\Desktop\test.html", settings)) {
            xDocument.WriteTo(writer);
        }
    }
}

This generates the following output:

<!DOCTYPE html >
<html>
    <head />
    <body>
        <p>This paragraph contains <b>bold</b> text.</p>
        <p>This paragraph has just plain text.</p>
    </body>
</html>

How can I post data as form data instead of a request payload?

You can try with below solution

$http({
        method: 'POST',
        url: url-post,
        data: data-post-object-json,

Add border-bottom to table row <tr>

<td style="border-bottom-style: solid; border-bottom: thick dotted #ff0000; ">

You can do the same to the whole row as well.

There is border-bottom-style, border-top-style,border-left-style,border-right-style. Or simply border-style that apply to all four borders at once.

You can see (and TRY YOURSELF online) more details here

How to downgrade python from 3.7 to 3.6

A clean way without having to uninstall a previous version or reverting to additional software like Anaconda or docker, etc. is to download the Python 3.6 source code and install it as follows:

$ mkdir /home/<user>/python3.6
$ ./configure --prefix=/home/<user>/python3.6/
$ make altinstall

To use it you either:

  • add /home/<user>/python3.6/bin to your PATH (and lib to LD_LIBRARY_PATH) and be done with it. (You may also need to add to your include path etc., depending on what you're trying to achieve exactly - but you get the idea, I hope.);

  • or, you create a virtual environment similar to this: /home/<user>/python3.6/bin/python3.6 -m venv env-python3.6.

No sudo or root access required. No messing up your system.

Count number of iterations in a foreach loop

There's a few different ways you can tackle this one.

You can set a counter before the foreach() and then just iterate through which is the easiest approach.

$counter = 0;
foreach ($Contents as $item) {
      $counter++;
       $item[number];// if there are 15 $item[number] in this foreach, I want get the value : 15
}

Check whether a path is valid in Python without creating a file at the path's target

try os.path.exists this will check for the path and return True if exists and False if not.

How to hide a div element depending on Model value? MVC

The below code should apply different CSS classes based on your Model's CanEdit Property value .

<div class="@(Model.CanEdit?"visible-item":"hidden-item")">Some links</div>

But if it is something important like Edit/Delete links, you shouldn't be simply hiding,because people can update the css class/HTML markup in their browser and get access to your important link. Instead you should be simply not Rendering the important stuff to the browser.

@if(Model.CanEdit)
{
  <div>Edit/Delete link goes here</div>
}

Javascript getElementsByName.value not working

id is different from name

How to add a new line in textarea element?

I think you are confusing the syntax of different languages.

  • &#10; is (the HtmlEncoded value of ASCII 10 or) the linefeed character literal in a HTML string. But the line feed character does NOT render as a line break in HTML (see notes at bottom).

  • \n is the linefeed character literal (ASCII 10) in a Javascript string.

  • <br/> is a line break in HTML. Many other elements, eg <p>, <div>, etc also render line breaks unless overridden with some styles.

Hopefully the following illustration will make it clearer:

_x000D_
_x000D_
T.innerText = "Position of LF: " + t.value.indexOf("\n");_x000D_
_x000D_
p1.innerHTML = t.value;_x000D_
p2.innerHTML = t.value.replace("\n", "<br/>");_x000D_
p3.innerText = t.value.replace("\n", "<br/>");
_x000D_
<textarea id="t">Line 1&#10;Line 2</textarea>_x000D_
_x000D_
<p id='T'></p>_x000D_
<p id='p1'></p>_x000D_
<p id='p2'></p>_x000D_
<p id='p3'></p>
_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_

A few points to note about Html:

  • The innerHTML value of the TEXTAREA element does not render Html. Try the following: <textarea>A <a href='x'>link</a>.</textarea> to see.
  • The P element renders all contiguous white spaces (including new lines) as one space.
  • The LF character does not render to a new line or line break in HTML.
  • The TEXTAREA renders LF as a new line inside the text area box.

Iterating through directories with Python

The actual walk through the directories works as you have coded it. If you replace the contents of the inner loop with a simple print statement you can see that each file is found:

import os
rootdir = 'C:/Users/sid/Desktop/test'

for subdir, dirs, files in os.walk(rootdir):
    for file in files:
        print os.path.join(subdir, file)

If you still get errors when running the above, please provide the error message.

Updated for Python3

import os
rootdir = 'C:/Users/sid/Desktop/test'

for subdir, dirs, files in os.walk(rootdir):
    for file in files:
        print(os.path.join(subdir, file))

How to convert a string of bytes into an int?

In Python 2.x, you could use the format specifiers <B for unsigned bytes, and <b for signed bytes with struct.unpack/struct.pack.

E.g:

Let x = '\xff\x10\x11'

data_ints = struct.unpack('<' + 'B'*len(x), x) # [255, 16, 17]

And:

data_bytes = struct.pack('<' + 'B'*len(data_ints), *data_ints) # '\xff\x10\x11'

That * is required!

See https://docs.python.org/2/library/struct.html#format-characters for a list of the format specifiers.

Is there a template engine for Node.js?

Find Item in ObservableCollection without using a loop

ObservableCollection is a list so if you don't know the element position you have to look at each element until you find the expected one.

Possible optimization If your elements are sorted use a binary search to improve performances otherwise use a Dictionary as index.

Convert String to equivalent Enum value

I might've over-engineered my own solution without realizing that Type.valueOf("enum string") actually existed.

I guess it gives more granular control but I'm not sure it's really necessary.

public enum Type {
    DEBIT,
    CREDIT;

    public static Map<String, Type> typeMapping = Maps.newHashMap();
    static {
        typeMapping.put(DEBIT.name(), DEBIT);
        typeMapping.put(CREDIT.name(), CREDIT);
    }

    public static Type getType(String typeName) {
        if (typeMapping.get(typeName) == null) {
            throw new RuntimeException(String.format("There is no Type mapping with name (%s)"));
        }
        return typeMapping.get(typeName);
    }
}

I guess you're exchanging IllegalArgumentException for RuntimeException (or whatever exception you wish to throw) which could potentially clean up code.

How do you check whether a number is divisible by another number (Python)?

The simplest way is to test whether a number is an integer is int(x) == x. Otherwise, what David Heffernan said.

Declare and assign multiple string variables at the same time

An example of what I call Concatenated-declarations:

string Camnr = "",
        Klantnr = "",
        Ordernr = "",
        Bonnr = "",
        Volgnr = "",
        Omschrijving = "",
        Startdatum = "",
        Bonprioriteit = "",
        Matsoort = "",
        Dikte = "",
        Draaibaarheid = "",
        Draaiomschrijving = "",
        Orderleverdatum = "",
        Regeltaakkode = "",
        Gebruiksvoorkeur = "",
        Regelcamprog = "",
        Regeltijd = "",
        Orderrelease = "";

Just my 2 cents, hope it helps someone somewhere.

How can I prevent the backspace key from navigating back?

Simplest way to prevent navigation on pressing backspace

$(document).keydown(function () {
    if (event.keyCode == 8) {
        if (event.target.nodeName == 'BODY') {
            event.preventDefault();
        }
    }
});

Convert ascii char[] to hexadecimal char[] in C

Async image loading from url inside a UITableView cell - image changes to wrong image while scrolling

In my case, it wasn't due to image caching (Used SDWebImage). It was because of custom cell's tag mismatch with indexPath.row.

On cellForRowAtIndexPath :

1) Assign an index value to your custom cell. For instance,

cell.tag = indexPath.row

2) On main thread, before assigning the image, check if the image belongs the corresponding cell by matching it with the tag.

dispatch_async(dispatch_get_main_queue(), ^{
   if(cell.tag == indexPath.row) {
     UIImage *tmpImage = [[UIImage alloc] initWithData:imgData];
     thumbnailImageView.image = tmpImage;
   }});
});

How do I return a char array from a function?

With Boost:

boost::array<char, 10> testfunc()
{
    boost::array<char, 10> str;

    return str;
}

A normal char[10] (or any other array) can't be returned from a function.

Collections.emptyList() vs. new instance

Use Collections.emptyList() if you want to make sure that the returned list is never modified.

This is what is returned on calling emptyList():

/**
 * The empty list (immutable).
 */
public static final List EMPTY_LIST = new EmptyList();

How to convert decimal to hexadecimal in JavaScript

Without the loop:

function decimalToHex(d) {
  var hex = Number(d).toString(16);
  hex = "000000".substr(0, 6 - hex.length) + hex;
  return hex;
}

// Or "#000000".substr(0, 7 - hex.length) + hex;
// Or whatever
// *Thanks to MSDN

Also isn't it better not to use loop tests that have to be evaluated?

For example, instead of:

for (var i = 0; i < hex.length; i++){}

have

for (var i = 0, var j = hex.length; i < j; i++){}

Running Java Program from Command Line Linux

Guys let's understand the syntax of it.

  1. If class file is present in the Current Dir.

    java -cp . fileName

  2. If class file is present within the Dir. Go to the Parent Dir and enter below cmd.

    java -cp . dir1.dir2.dir3.fileName

  3. If there is a dependency on external jars then,

    java -cp .:./jarName1:./jarName2 fileName

Capturing window.onbeforeunload

The reason why nothing happens when you use 'alert()' is probably as explained by MDN: "The HTML specification states that calls to window.alert(), window.confirm(), and window.prompt() methods may be ignored during this event."

But there is also another reason why you might not see the warning at all, whether it calls alert() or not, also explained on the same site:

"... browsers may not display prompts created in beforeunload event handlers unless the page has been interacted with"

That is what I see with current versions of Chrome and FireFox. I open my page which has beforeunload handler set up with this code:

window.addEventListener
('beforeunload'
, function (evt)
  { evt.preventDefault();
    evt.returnValue = 'Hello';
    return "hello 2222"
  }
 );

If I do not click on my page, in other words "do not interact" with it, and click the close-button, the window closes without warning.

But if I click on the page before trying to close the window or tab, I DO get the warning, and can cancel the closing of the window.

So these browsers are "smart" (and user-friendly) in that if you have not done anything with the page, it can not have any user-input that would need saving, so they will close the window without any warnings.

Consider that without this feature any site might selfishly ask you: "Do you really want to leave our site?", when you have already clearly indicated your intention to leave their site.

How to import an existing X.509 certificate and private key in Java keystore to use in SSL?

Using Let's Encrypt certificates

Assuming you've created your certificates and private keys with Let's Encrypt in /etc/letsencrypt/live/you.com:

1. Create a PKCS #12 file

openssl pkcs12 -export -in fullchain.pem -inkey privkey.pem -out pkcs.p12 \
        -name letsencrypt

This combines your SSL certificate fullchain.pem and your private key privkey.pem into a single file, pkcs.p12.

You'll be prompted for a password for pkcs.p12.

The export option specifies that a PKCS #12 file will be created rather than parsed (according to the manual).

2. Create the Java keystore

keytool -importkeystore -destkeystore keystore.jks -srckeystore pkcs.p12 \
        -srcstoretype PKCS12 -alias letsencrypt

If keystore.jks doesn't exist, it will be created containing the pkcs.12 file created above. Otherwise, you'll import pkcs.12 into the existing keystore.

These instructions are derived from the post "Create a Java Keystore (.JKS) from Let's Encrypt Certificates" on this blog.

Here's more on the different kind of files in /etc/letsencrypt/live/you.com/.

Calculating Time Difference

You cannot calculate the differences separately ... what difference would that yield for 7:59 and 8:00 o'clock? Try

import time
time.time()

which gives you the seconds since the start of the epoch.

You can then get the intermediate time with something like

timestamp1 = time.time()
# Your code here
timestamp2 = time.time()
print "This took %.2f seconds" % (timestamp2 - timestamp1)

How can I read and parse CSV files in C++?

You could also take a look at capabilities of Qt library.

It has regular expressions support and QString class has nice methods, e.g. split() returning QStringList, list of strings obtained by splitting the original string with a provided delimiter. Should suffice for csv file..

How can I get a list of all values in select box?

You had two problems:

1) The order in which you included the HTML. Try changing the dropdown from "onLoad" to "no wrap - head" in the JavaScript settings of your fiddle.

2) Your function prints the values. What you're actually after is the text

x.options[i].text; instead of x.options[i].value;

MySQL: Grant **all** privileges on database

This is old question but I don't think the accepted answer is safe. It's good for creating a super user but not good if you want to grant privileges on a single database.

grant all privileges on mydb.* to myuser@'%' identified by 'mypasswd';
grant all privileges on mydb.* to myuser@localhost identified by 'mypasswd';

% seems to not cover socket communications, that the localhost is for. WITH GRANT OPTION is only good for the super user, otherwise it is usually a security risk.

Update for MySQL 5.7+ seems like this warns about:

Using GRANT statement to modify existing user's properties other than privileges is deprecated and will be removed in future release. Use ALTER USER statement for this operation.

So setting password should be with separate commands. Thanks to comment from @scary-wombat.

ALTER USER 'myuser'@'%' IDENTIFIED BY 'mypassword';
ALTER USER 'myuser'@'localhost' IDENTIFIED BY 'mypassword';

Hope this helps.

#pragma mark in Swift?

Confirmed with an Apple Engineer in the Swift lab this morning at WWDC that there currently aren't any #pragma or equivalent at the moment, they consider this a bug, and it will arrive soon, so I am guessing beta 2, I hope.

Anyway, it's on it's way.

How to change content on hover

This little and simple trick I just learnt may help someone trying to avoid :before or :after pseudo elements altogether (for whatever reason) in changing text on hover. You can add both texts in the HTML, but vary the CSS 'display' property based on hover. Assuming the second text 'Add' has a class named 'add-label'; here is a little modification:

span.add-label{
 display:none;
}
.item:hover span.align{
 display:none;
}
.item:hover span.add-label{
 display:block;
}

Storing data into list with class

You need to new up an instance of EmailData and then add that:

var data = new EmailData { FirstName = "John", LastName = "Smith", Location = "LA" };

List<EmailData> listemail = new List<EmailData>();
listemail.Add(data);

If you want to able to do:

listemail.Add("JOhn","Smith","Los Angeles");

you can create your own custom list, by specializing System.Collections.Generic.List and implementing your own Add method, more or less like this:

public class EmailList : List<EmailData>
{
    public void Add(string firstName, string lastName, string location)
    {
        var data = new EmailData
                   {
                       FirstName = firstName,
                       LastName = lastName,
                       Location = location
                   };
        this.Add(data);
    }
}

C++ cast to derived class

Think like this:

class Animal { /* Some virtual members */ };
class Dog: public Animal {};
class Cat: public Animal {};

Dog     dog;
Cat     cat;
Animal& AnimalRef1 = dog; // Notice no cast required. (Dogs and cats are animals).
Animal& AnimalRef2 = cat;
Animal* AnimalPtr1 = &dog;
Animal* AnimlaPtr2 = &cat;

Cat&    catRef1 = dynamic_cast<Cat&>(AnimalRef1);  // Throws an exception  AnimalRef1 is a dog
Cat*    catPtr1 = dynamic_cast<Cat*>(AnimalPtr1);  // Returns NULL         AnimalPtr1 is a dog
Cat&    catRef2 = dynamic_cast<Cat&>(AnimalRef2);  // Works
Cat*    catPtr2 = dynamic_cast<Cat*>(AnimalPtr2);  // Works

// This on the other hand makes no sense
// An animal object is not a cat. Therefore it can not be treated like a Cat.
Animal  a;
Cat&    catRef1 = dynamic_cast<Cat&>(a);    // Throws an exception  Its not a CAT
Cat*    catPtr1 = dynamic_cast<Cat*>(&a);   // Returns NULL         Its not a CAT.

Now looking back at your first statement:

Animal animal = cat; // This works. But it slices the cat part out and just
                          // assigns the animal part of the object.
Cat bigCat = animal; // Makes no sense.
                          // An animal is not a cat!!!!!
Dog      bigDog = bigCat; // A cat is not a dog !!!!

You should very rarely ever need to use dynamic cast.
This is why we have virtual methods:

void makeNoise(Animal& animal)
{
     animal.DoNoiseMake();
}

Dog    dog;
Cat    cat;
Duck   duck;
Chicken chicken;

makeNoise(dog);
makeNoise(cat);
makeNoise(duck);
makeNoise(chicken);

The only reason I can think of is if you stored your object in a base class container:

std::vector<Animal*>  barnYard;
barnYard.push_back(&dog);
barnYard.push_back(&cat);
barnYard.push_back(&duck);
barnYard.push_back(&chicken);

Dog* dog = dynamic_cast<Dog*>(barnYard[1]); // Note: NULL as this was the cat.

But if you need to cast particular objects back to Dogs then there is a fundamental problem in your design. You should be accessing properties via the virtual methods.

barnYard[1]->DoNoiseMake();

How to Handle Button Click Events in jQuery?

 $("#btnSubmit").click(function(){
        alert("button");
    });

Select element by exact match of its content

Like T.J. Crowder stated above, the filter function does wonders. It wasn't working for me in my specific case. I needed to search multiple tables and their respective td tags inside a div (in this case a jQuery dialog).

$("#MyJqueryDialog table tr td").filter(function () {
    // The following implies that there is some text inside the td tag.
    if ($.trim($(this).text()) == "Hello World!") {
       // Perform specific task.
    }
});

I hope this is helpful to someone!

Checking Value of Radio Button Group via JavaScript?

In pure Javascript:

var genders = document.getElementsByName("gender");
var selectedGender;

for(var i = 0; i < genders.length; i++) {
   if(genders[i].checked)
       selectedGender = genders[i].value;
 }

update

In pure Javascript without loop, using newer (and potentially not-yet-supported) RadioNodeList :

var form_elements = document.getElementById('my_form').elements;
var selectedGender = form_elements['gender'].value;

The only catch is that RadioNodeList is only returned by the HTMLFormElement.elements or HTMLFieldSetElement.elements property, so you have to have some identifier for the form or fieldset that the radio inputs are wrapped in to grab it first.

NodeJS/express: Cache and 304 status code

As you said, Safari sends Cache-Control: max-age=0 on reload. Express (or more specifically, Express's dependency, node-fresh) considers the cache stale when Cache-Control: no-cache headers are received, but it doesn't do the same for Cache-Control: max-age=0. From what I can tell, it probably should. But I'm not an expert on caching.

The fix is to change (what is currently) line 37 of node-fresh/index.js from

if (cc && cc.indexOf('no-cache') !== -1) return false;

to

if (cc && (cc.indexOf('no-cache') !== -1 ||
  cc.indexOf('max-age=0') !== -1)) return false;

I forked node-fresh and express to include this fix in my project's package.json via npm, you could do the same. Here are my forks, for example:

https://github.com/stratusdata/node-fresh https://github.com/stratusdata/express#safari-reload-fix

The safari-reload-fix branch is based on the 3.4.7 tag.
