How to align matching values in two columns in Excel, and bring along associated values in other columns

assuming the item numbers are unique, a VLOOKUP should get you the information you need.

first value would be =VLOOKUP(E1,A:B,2,FALSE), and the same type of formula to retrieve the second value would be =VLOOKUP(E1,C:D,2,FALSE). Wrap them in an IFERROR if you want to return anything other than #N/A if there is no corresponding value in the item column(s)

SQL Server 2008 Row Insert and Update timestamps

try

CREATE TABLE [dbo].[Names]
(
    [Name] [nvarchar](64) NOT NULL,
    [CreateTS] [smalldatetime] NOT NULL CONSTRAINT CreateTS_DF DEFAULT CURRENT_TIMESTAMP,
    [UpdateTS] [smalldatetime] NOT NULL

)

PS I think a smalldatetime is good enough. You may decide differently.

Can you not do this at the "moment of impact" ?

In Sql Server, this is common:

Update dbo.MyTable
Set

ColA = @SomeValue ,
UpdateDS = CURRENT_TIMESTAMP
Where...........

Sql Server has a "timestamp" datatype.

But it may not be what you think.

Here is a reference:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms182776(v=sql.90).aspx

Here is a little RowVersion (synonym for timestamp) example:

CREATE TABLE [dbo].[Names]
(
    [Name] [nvarchar](64) NOT NULL,
    RowVers rowversion ,
    [CreateTS] [datetime] NOT NULL CONSTRAINT CreateTS_DF DEFAULT CURRENT_TIMESTAMP,
    [UpdateTS] [datetime] NOT NULL

)

INSERT INTO dbo.Names (Name,UpdateTS)
select 'John' , CURRENT_TIMESTAMP
UNION ALL select 'Mary' , CURRENT_TIMESTAMP
UNION ALL select 'Paul' , CURRENT_TIMESTAMP

select *  ,  ConvertedRowVers = CONVERT(bigint,RowVers) from [dbo].[Names]

Update dbo.Names Set Name = Name

select *  ,  ConvertedRowVers = CONVERT(bigint,RowVers) from [dbo].[Names]

Maybe a complete working example:

DROP TABLE [dbo].[Names]
GO

CREATE TABLE [dbo].[Names]
(
    [Name] [nvarchar](64) NOT NULL,
    RowVers rowversion ,
    [CreateTS] [datetime] NOT NULL CONSTRAINT CreateTS_DF DEFAULT CURRENT_TIMESTAMP,
    [UpdateTS] [datetime] NOT NULL

)

GO

CREATE TRIGGER dbo.trgKeepUpdateDateInSync_ByeByeBye ON dbo.Names
AFTER INSERT, UPDATE
AS

BEGIN

Update dbo.Names Set UpdateTS = CURRENT_TIMESTAMP from dbo.Names myAlias , inserted triggerInsertedTable where
triggerInsertedTable.Name = myAlias.Name

END

GO

INSERT INTO dbo.Names (Name,UpdateTS)
select 'John' , CURRENT_TIMESTAMP
UNION ALL select 'Mary' , CURRENT_TIMESTAMP
UNION ALL select 'Paul' , CURRENT_TIMESTAMP

select *  ,  ConvertedRowVers = CONVERT(bigint,RowVers) from [dbo].[Names]

Update dbo.Names Set Name = Name , UpdateTS = '03/03/2003' /* notice that even though I set it to 2003, the trigger takes over */

select *  ,  ConvertedRowVers = CONVERT(bigint,RowVers) from [dbo].[Names]

Matching on the "Name" value is probably not wise.

Try this more mainstream example with a SurrogateKey

DROP TABLE [dbo].[Names]
GO

CREATE TABLE [dbo].[Names]
(
    SurrogateKey int not null Primary Key Identity (1001,1),
    [Name] [nvarchar](64) NOT NULL,
    RowVers rowversion ,
    [CreateTS] [datetime] NOT NULL CONSTRAINT CreateTS_DF DEFAULT CURRENT_TIMESTAMP,
    [UpdateTS] [datetime] NOT NULL

)

GO

CREATE TRIGGER dbo.trgKeepUpdateDateInSync_ByeByeBye ON dbo.Names
AFTER UPDATE
AS

BEGIN

   UPDATE dbo.Names
    SET UpdateTS = CURRENT_TIMESTAMP
    From  dbo.Names myAlias
    WHERE exists ( select null from inserted triggerInsertedTable where myAlias.SurrogateKey = triggerInsertedTable.SurrogateKey)

END

GO

INSERT INTO dbo.Names (Name,UpdateTS)
select 'John' , CURRENT_TIMESTAMP
UNION ALL select 'Mary' , CURRENT_TIMESTAMP
UNION ALL select 'Paul' , CURRENT_TIMESTAMP

select *  ,  ConvertedRowVers = CONVERT(bigint,RowVers) from [dbo].[Names]

Update dbo.Names Set Name = Name , UpdateTS = '03/03/2003' /* notice that even though I set it to 2003, the trigger takes over */

select *  ,  ConvertedRowVers = CONVERT(bigint,RowVers) from [dbo].[Names]

cv2.imshow command doesn't work properly in opencv-python

I faced the same issue. I tried to read an image from IDLE and tried to display it using cv2.imshow(), but the display window freezes and shows pythonw.exe is not responding when trying to close the window.

The post below gives a possible explanation for why this is happening

pythonw.exe is not responding

"Basically, don't do this from IDLE. Write a script and run it from the shell or the script directly if in windows, by naming it with a .pyw extension and double clicking it. There is apparently a conflict between IDLE's own event loop and the ones from GUI toolkits."

When I used imshow() in a script and execute it rather than running it directly over IDLE, it worked.

How to override and extend basic Django admin templates?

You can use django-overextends, which provides circular template inheritance for Django.

It comes from the Mezzanine CMS, from where Stephen extracted it into a standalone Django extension.

More infos you find in "Overriding vs Extending Templates" (http:/mezzanine.jupo.org/docs/content-architecture.html#overriding-vs-extending-templates) inside the Mezzanine docs.

For deeper insides look at Stephens Blog "Circular Template Inheritance for Django" (http:/blog.jupo.org/2012/05/17/circular-template-inheritance-for-django).

And in Google Groups the discussion (https:/groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/mezzanine-users/sUydcf_IZkQ) which started the development of this feature.

Note:

I don't have the reputation to add more than 2 links. But I think the links provide interesting background information. So I just left out a slash after "http(s):". Maybe someone with better reputation can repair the links and remove this note.

What do "branch", "tag" and "trunk" mean in Subversion repositories?

They don't really have any formal meaning. A folder is a folder to SVN. They are a generally accepted way to organize your project.

  • The trunk is where you keep your main line of developmemt. The branch folder is where you might create, well, branches, which are hard to explain in a short post.

  • A branch is a copy of a subset of your project that you work on separately from the trunk. Maybe it's for experiments that might not go anywhere, or maybe it's for the next release, which you will later merge back into the trunk when it becomes stable.

  • And the tags folder is for creating tagged copies of your repository, usually at release checkpoints.

But like I said, to SVN, a folder is a folder. branch, trunk and tag are just a convention.

I'm using the word 'copy' liberally. SVN doesn't actually make full copies of things in the repository.

What is the difference between baud rate and bit rate?

Bits per second is straightforward. It is exactly what it sounds like. If I have 1000 bits and am sending them at 1000 bps, it will take exactly one second to transmit them.

Baud is symbols per second. If these symbols — the indivisible elements of your data encoding — are not bits, the baud rate will be lower than the bit rate by the factor of bits per symbol. That is, if there are 4 bits per symbol, the baud rate will be ¼ that of the bit rate.

This confusion arose because the early analog telephone modems weren't very complicated, so bps was equal to baud. That is, each symbol encoded one bit. Later, to make modems faster, communications engineers invented increasingly clever ways to send more bits per symbol.¹

Analogy

System 1, bits: Imagine a communication system with a telescope on the near side of a valley and a guy on the far side holding up one hand or the other. Call his left hand "0" and his right hand "1," and you have a system for communicating one binary digit — one bit — at a time.

System 2, baud: Now imagine that the guy on the far side of the valley is holding up playing cards instead of his bare hands. He is using a subset of the cards, ace through 8 in each suit, for a total of 32 cards. Each card — each symbol — encodes 5 bits: 00000 through 11111 in binary.²

Analysis

The System 2 guy can convey 5 bits of information per card in the same time it takes the System 1 guy to convey one bit by revealing one of his bare hands.

You see how the analogy seems to break down: finding a particular card in a deck and showing it takes longer than simply deciding to show your left or right hand. But, that just provides an opportunity to extend the analogy profitably.

A communications system with many bits per symbol faces a similar difficulty, because the encoding schemes required to send multiple bits per symbol are much more complicated than those that send only one bit at a time. To extend the analogy, then, the guy showing playing cards could have several people behind him sharing the work of finding the next card in the deck, handing him cards as fast as he can show them. The helpers are analogous to the more powerful processors required to produce the many-bits-per-baud encoding schemes.

That is to say, by using more processing power, System 2 can send data 5 times faster than the more primitive System 1.

Historical Vignette

What shall we do with our 5-bit code? It seems natural to an English speaker to use 26 of the 32 available code points for the English alphabet. We can use the remaining 6 code points for a space character and a small set of control codes and symbols.

Or, we could just use Baudot code, a 5-bit code invented by Émile Baudot, after whom the unit "baud" was coined.³

Footnotes and Digressions:

  1. For example, the V.34 standard defined a 3,429 baud mode at 8.4 bits per symbol to achieve 28.8 kbit/sec throughput.

    That standard only talks about the POTS side of the modem. The RS-232 side remains a 1 bit per symbol system, so you could also correctly call it a 28.8k baud modem. Confusing, but technically correct.

  2. I've purposely kept things simple here.

    One thing you might think about is whether the absence of a playing card conveys information. If it does, that implies the existence of some clock or latch signal, so that you can tell the information-carrying absence of a card from the gap between the display of two cards.

    Also, what do you do with the cards left over in a poker deck, 9 through King, and the Jokers? One idea would be to use them as special flags to carry metadata. For example, you'll need a way to indicate a short trailing block. If you need to send 128 bits of information, you're going to need to show 26 cards. The first 25 cards convey 5×25=125 bits, with the 26th card conveying the trailing 3 bits. You need some way to signal that the last two bits in the symbol should be disregarded.

  3. This is why the early analog telephone modems were specified in terms of baud instead of bps: communications engineers had been using that terminology since the telegraph days. They weren't trying to confuse bps and baud; it was simply a fact, in their minds, that these modems were transmitting one bit per symbol.

if variable contains

You might want indexOf

if (code.indexOf("ST1") >= 0) { ... }
else if (code.indexOf("ST2") >= 0) { ... }

It checks if contains is anywhere in the string variable code. This requires code to be a string. If you want this solution to be case-insensitive you have to change the case to all the same with either String.toLowerCase() or String.toUpperCase().

You could also work with a switch statement like

switch (true) {
    case (code.indexOf('ST1') >= 0):
        document.write('code contains "ST1"');
        break;
    case (code.indexOf('ST2') >= 0):
        document.write('code contains "ST2"');
        break;
    case (code.indexOf('ST3') >= 0):
        document.write('code contains "ST3"');
        break;
    }?

When do I need a fb:app_id or fb:admins?

To use the Like Button and have the Open Graph inspect your website, you need an application.

So you need to associate the Like Button with a fb:app_id

If you want other users to see the administration page for your website on Facebook you add fb:admins. So if you are the developer of the application and the website owner there is no need to add fb:admins

Insert value into a string at a certain position?

If you just want to insert a value at a certain position in a string, you can use the String.Insert method:

Variable's memory size in Python

Regarding the internal structure of a Python long, check sys.int_info (or sys.long_info for Python 2.7).

>>> import sys
>>> sys.int_info
sys.int_info(bits_per_digit=30, sizeof_digit=4)

Python either stores 30 bits into 4 bytes (most 64-bit systems) or 15 bits into 2 bytes (most 32-bit systems). Comparing the actual memory usage with calculated values, I get

>>> import math, sys
>>> a=0
>>> sys.getsizeof(a)
24
>>> a=2**100
>>> sys.getsizeof(a)
40
>>> a=2**1000
>>> sys.getsizeof(a)
160
>>> 24+4*math.ceil(100/30)
40
>>> 24+4*math.ceil(1000/30)
160

There are 24 bytes of overhead for 0 since no bits are stored. The memory requirements for larger values matches the calculated values.

If your numbers are so large that you are concerned about the 6.25% unused bits, you should probably look at the gmpy2 library. The internal representation uses all available bits and computations are significantly faster for large values (say, greater than 100 digits).

Can anonymous class implement interface?

Casting anonymous types to interfaces has been something I've wanted for a while but unfortunately the current implementation forces you to have an implementation of that interface.

The best solution around it is having some type of dynamic proxy that creates the implementation for you. Using the excellent LinFu project you can replace

select new
{
  A = value.A,
  B = value.C + "_" + value.D
};

with

 select new DynamicObject(new
 {
   A = value.A,
   B = value.C + "_" + value.D
 }).CreateDuck<DummyInterface>();

Do Java arrays have a maximum size?

Going by this article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Criticism_of_Java#Large_arrays:

Java has been criticized for not supporting arrays of more than 231-1 (about 2.1 billion) elements. This is a limitation of the language; the Java Language Specification, Section 10.4, states that:

Arrays must be indexed by int values... An attempt to access an array component with a long index value results in a compile-time error.

Supporting large arrays would also require changes to the JVM. This limitation manifests itself in areas such as collections being limited to 2 billion elements and the inability to memory map files larger than 2 GiB. Java also lacks true multidimensional arrays (contiguously allocated single blocks of memory accessed by a single indirection), which limits performance for scientific and technical computing.

Seedable JavaScript random number generator

The code you listed kind of looks like a Lehmer RNG. If this is the case, then 2147483647 is the largest 32-bit signed integer, 2147483647 is the largest 32-bit prime, and 48271 is a full-period multiplier that is used to generate the numbers.

If this is true, you could modify RandomNumberGenerator to take in an extra parameter seed, and then set this.seed to seed; but you'd have to be careful to make sure the seed would result in a good distribution of random numbers (Lehmer can be weird like that) -- but most seeds will be fine.

Visual Studio loading symbols

In my case Visual Studio was looking for 3rd-party PDBs in paths that, on my machine, referenced an optical drive. Without a disc in the tray it took about Windows about ~30 to fail, which in turn slowed down Visual Studio as it tried to load the PDBs from that location. More detail is available in my complete answer here: https://stackoverflow.com/a/17457581/85196

How to convert an address to a latitude/longitude?

Nothing much new to add, but I have had a lot of real-world experience in GIS and geocoding from a previous job. Here is what I remember:

If it is a "every once in a while" need in your application, I would definitely recommend the Google or Yahoo Geocoding APIs, but be careful to read their licensing terms.

I know that the Google Maps API in general is easy to license for even commercial web pages, but can't be used in a pay-to-access situation. In other words you can use it to advertise or provide a service that drives ad revenue, but you can't charge people to acess your site or even put it behind a password system.

Despite these restrictions, they are both excellent choices because they frequently update their street databases. Most of the free backend tools and libraries use Census and TIGER road data that is updated infrequently, so you are less likely to successfully geocode addresses in rapidly growing areas or new subdivisions.

Most of the services also restrict the number of geocoding queries you can make per day, so it's OK to look up addresses of, say, new customers who get added to your database, but if you run a batch job that feeds thousands of addresses from your database into the geocoder, you're going to get shutoff.

I don't think this one has been mentioned yet, but ESRI has ArcWeb web services that include geocoding, although they aren't very cheap. Last time I used them it cost around 1.5cents per lookup, but you had to prepay a certain amount to get started. Again the major advantage is that the road data they use is kept up to date in a timely manner and you can use the data in commercial situations that Google doesn't allow. The ArcWeb service will also serve up high-resolution satellite and aerial photos a la Google Maps, again priced per request.

If you want to roll your own or have access to much more accurate data, you can purchase subscriptions to GIS data from companies like TeleAtlas, but that ain't cheap. You can buy only a state or county worth of data if your needs are extremely local. There are several tiers of data - GIS features only, GIS plus detailed streets, all that plus geocode data, all of that plus traffic flow/direction/speed limits for routing. Of course, the price goes up as you go up the tiers.

Finally, the Wikipedia article on Geocoding has some good information on the algorithms and techniques. Even if you aren't doing it in your own code, it's useful to know what kind of errors and accuracy you can expect from various kinds of data sources.

How can I enable cURL for an installed Ubuntu LAMP stack?

First thing to do: Check for the PHP version your machine is running.

Command Line: php -version

This will show something like this (in my case):

PHP 7.0.8-0ubuntu0.16.04.3 (cli) ( NTS ) Copyright (c) 1997-2016 The PHP Group

If you are using PHP 5.x.x => run command: sudo apt-get install php5-curl

If PHP 7.x.x => run command (in my case): sudo apt-get install php7.0-curl

Enable this extension by running:

sudo gedit /etc/php/7.0/cli/php.ini

And in the file "php.ini" search for keyword "curl" to find this line below and change it from

;extension=php_curl.dll

To:

extension=php_curl.dll

Next, save your file "php.ini".

Finally, in your command line, restart your server by running: sudo service apache2 restart.

What does flex: 1 mean?

BE CAREFUL

In some browsers:

flex:1; does not equal flex:1 1 0;

flex:1; = flex:1 1 0n; (where n is a length unit).

  • flex-grow: A number specifying how much the item will grow relative to the rest of the flexible items.
  • flex-shrink A number specifying how much the item will shrink relative to the rest of the flexible items
  • flex-basis The length of the item. Legal values: "auto", "inherit", or a number followed by "%", "px", "em" or any other length unit.

The key point here is that flex-basis requires a length unit.

In Chrome for example flex:1 and flex:1 1 0 produce different results. In most circumstances it may appear that flex:1 1 0; is working but let's examine what really happens:

EXAMPLE

Flex basis is ignored and only flex-grow and flex-shrink are applied.

flex:1 1 0; = flex:1 1; = flex:1;

This may at first glance appear ok however if the applied unit of the container is nested; expect the unexpected!

Try this example in CHROME

COMPATIBILITY

It should be noted that this fails because some browsers have failed to adhere to the specification.

Browsers that use the full flex specification:

  • Firefox - ?
  • Edge - ? (I know, I was shocked too.)
  • Chrome - x
  • Brave - x
  • Opera - x
  • IE - (lol, it works without length unit but not with one.)

UPDATE 2019

Latest versions of Chrome seem to have finally rectified this issue but other browsers still have not.

Tested and working in Chrome Ver 74.

How to suppress scientific notation when printing float values?

Using 3.6.4, I was having a similar problem that randomly, a number in the output file would be formatted with scientific notation when using this:

fout.write('someFloats: {0:0.8},{1:0.8},{2:0.8}'.format(someFloat[0], someFloat[1], someFloat[2]))

All that I had to do to fix it was to add 'f':

fout.write('someFloats: {0:0.8f},{1:0.8f},{2:0.8f}'.format(someFloat[0], someFloat[1], someFloat[2]))

How to change line color in EditText

i think the best way is by theme:

        <item name="colorControlActivated">@color/action_blue</item>
        <item name="colorControlHighlight">@color/action_blue</item>
</style>

<style name="AddressBookStyle" parent="Theme.AppCompat.Light.DarkActionBar">
     <item name="android:layout_width">match_parent</item>
     <item name="android:layout_height">wrap_content</item>

            style="@style/AddressBookStyle"/>

how to create a cookie and add to http response from inside my service layer?

To add a new cookie, use HttpServletResponse.addCookie(Cookie). The Cookie is pretty much a key value pair taking a name and value as strings on construction.

How to delete duplicate lines in a file without sorting it in Unix?

uniq would be fooled by trailing spaces and tabs. In order to emulate how a human makes comparison, I am trimming all trailing spaces and tabs before comparison.

I think that the $!N; needs curly braces or else it continues, and that is the cause of infinite loop.

I have bash 5.0 and sed 4.7 in Ubuntu 20.10. The second one-liner did not work, at the character set match.

Three variations, first to eliminate adjacent repeat lines, second to eliminate repeat lines wherever they occur, third to eliminate all but the last instance of lines in file.

pastebin

# First line in a set of duplicate lines is kept, rest are deleted.
# Emulate human eyes on trailing spaces and tabs by trimming those.
# Use after norepeat() to dedupe blank lines.

dedupe() {
 sed -E '
  $!{
   N;
   s/[ \t]+$//;
   /^(.*)\n\1$/!P;
   D;
  }
 ';
}

# Delete duplicate, nonconsecutive lines from a file. Ignore blank
# lines. Trailing spaces and tabs are trimmed to humanize comparisons
# squeeze blank lines to one

norepeat() {
 sed -n -E '
  s/[ \t]+$//;
  G;
  /^(\n){2,}/d;
  /^([^\n]+).*\n\1(\n|$)/d;
  h;
  P;
  ';
}

lastrepeat() {
 sed -n -E '
  s/[ \t]+$//;
  /^$/{
   H;
   d;
  };
  G;
  # delete previous repeated line if found
  s/^([^\n]+)(.*)(\n\1(\n.*|$))/\1\2\4/;
  # after searching for previous repeat, move tested last line to end
  s/^([^\n]+)(\n)(.*)/\3\2\1/;
  $!{

  };
  # squeeze blank lines to one

PostgreSQL error 'Could not connect to server: No such file or directory'

"Postgres.app" is a better fix if you are on OS X

Here is the fix:

  1. Stop the database
  2. cd /var
  3. sudo rm -r pgsql_socket
  4. sudo ln -s /tmp pgsql_socket
  5. chown _postgres:_postgres pgsql_socket
  6. Restart PostgreSQL (not your computer)

Auto-expanding layout with Qt-Designer

I've tried to find a "fit to screen" property but there is no such.

But setting widget's "maximumSize" to a "some big number" ( like 2000 x 2000 ) will automatically fit the widget to the parent widget space.

Checking character length in ruby

Instead of using a regular expression, just check if string.length > 25

How to get < span > value?

You need to change your code as below:-

<html>
<body>

<span id="span_Id">Click the button to display the content.</span>

<button onclick="displayDate()">Click Me</button>

<script>
function displayDate() {
   var span_Text = document.getElementById("span_Id").innerText;
   alert (span_Text);
}
</script>
</body>
</html>

After doing this you will get the tag value in alert.

Redirect Windows cmd stdout and stderr to a single file

You want:

dir > a.txt 2>&1

The syntax 2>&1 will redirect 2 (stderr) to 1 (stdout). You can also hide messages by redirecting to NUL, more explanation and examples on MSDN.

start MySQL server from command line on Mac OS Lion

I like the aliases too ... however, I've had issues with MySQLCOM for start ... it fails silently ... My workaround is akin to the others ... ~/.bash_aliases

alias mysqlstop='sudo /usr/local/mysql/support-files/mysql.server stop'

Init method in Spring Controller (annotation version)

Alternatively you can have your class implement the InitializingBean interface to provide a callback function (afterPropertiesSet()) which the ApplicationContext will invoke when the bean is constructed.

jQuery set radio button

Try this:

$("#" + newcol).attr("checked", "checked");

I've had issues with attr("checked", true), so I tend to use the above instead.

Also, if you have the ID then you don't need that other stuff for selection. An ID is unique.

Java, Check if integer is multiple of a number

//More Efficiently
public class Multiples {
    public static void main(String[]args) {

        int j = 5;

        System.out.println(j % 4 == 0);

    }
}

Primary key or Unique index?

There are some disadvantages of CLUSTERED INDEXES vs UNIQUE INDEXES.

As already stated, a CLUSTERED INDEX physically orders the data in the table.

This mean that when you have a lot if inserts or deletes on a table containing a clustered index, everytime (well, almost, depending on your fill factor) you change the data, the physical table needs to be updated to stay sorted.

In relative small tables, this is fine, but when getting to tables that have GB's worth of data, and insertrs/deletes affect the sorting, you will run into problems.

How to find which version of Oracle is installed on a Linux server (In terminal)

As the user running the Oracle Database one can also try $ORACLE_HOME/OPatch/opatch lsinventory which shows the exact version and patches installed.

For example this is a quick oneliner which should only return the version number:

$ORACLE_HOME/OPatch/opatch lsinventory | awk '/^Oracle Database/ {print $NF}'

Get and Set a Single Cookie with Node.js HTTP Server

First one needs to create cookie (I have wrapped token inside cookie as an example) and then set it in response.To use the cookie in following way install cookieParser

app.use(cookieParser());

The browser will have it saved in its 'Resource' tab and will be used for every request thereafter taking the initial URL as base

var token = student.generateToken('authentication');
        res.cookie('token', token, {
            expires: new Date(Date.now() + 9999999),
            httpOnly: false
        }).status(200).send();

To get cookie from a request on the server side is easy too.You have to extract the cookie from request by calling 'cookie' property of the request object.

var token = req.cookies.token; // Retrieving Token stored in cookies

How to send a message to a particular client with socket.io

Here is the full solution for Android Client + Socket IO Server (Lot of code but works). There seems to be lack of support for Android and IOS when it comes to socket io which is a tragedy of sorts.

Basically creating a room name by joining user unique id from mysql or mongo then sorting it (done in Android Client and sent to server). So each pair has a unique but common amongst the pair room name. Then just go about chatting in that room.

For quick refernce how room is created in Android

 // Build The Chat Room
        if (Integer.parseInt(mySqlUserId) < Integer.parseInt(toMySqlUserId)) {
            room = "ic" + mySqlUserId + toMySqlUserId;
        } else {
            room = "ic" + toMySqlUserId + mySqlUserId;
        }

The Full Works

Package Json

"dependencies": {
    "express": "^4.17.1",
    "socket.io": "^2.3.0"
  },
  "devDependencies": {
    "nodemon": "^2.0.6"
  }

Socket IO Server

app = require('express')()
http = require('http').createServer(app)
io = require('socket.io')(http)

app.get('/', (req, res) => {

    res.send('Chat server is running on port 5000')
})

io.on('connection', (socket) => {

    // console.log('one user connected ' + socket.id);

    // Join Chat Room
    socket.on('join', function(data) {

        console.log('======Joined Room========== ');
        console.log(data);

        // Json Parse String To Access Child Elements
        var messageJson = JSON.parse(data);
        const room = messageJson.room;
        console.log(room);

        socket.join(room);

    });

    // On Receiving Individual Chat Message (ic_message)
    socket.on('ic_message', function(data) {
        console.log('======IC Message========== ');
        console.log(data);

        // Json Parse String To Access Child Elements
        var messageJson = JSON.parse(data);
        const room = messageJson.room;
        const message = messageJson.message;

        console.log(room);
        console.log(message);

        // Sending to all clients in room except sender
        socket.broadcast.to(room).emit('new_msg', {
            msg: message
        });

    });

    socket.on('disconnect', function() {
        console.log('one user disconnected ' + socket.id);
    });

});

http.listen(5000, () => {

    console.log('Node app is running on port 5000')
})

Regular Expression for password validation

There seems to be a lot of confusion here. The answers I see so far don't correctly enforce the 1+ number/1+ lowercase/1+ uppercase rule, meaning that passwords like abc123, 123XYZ, or AB*&^# would still be accepted. Preventing all-lowercase, all-caps, or all-digits is not enough; you have to enforce the presence of at least one of each.

Try the following:

^(?=.*[a-z])(?=.*[A-Z])(?=.*\d).{8,15}$

If you also want to require at least one special character (which is probably a good idea), try this:

^(?=.*[a-z])(?=.*[A-Z])(?=.*\d)(?=.*[^\da-zA-Z]).{8,15}$

The .{8,15} can be made more restrictive if you wish (for example, you could change it to \S{8,15} to disallow whitespace), but remember that doing so will reduce the strength of your password scheme.

I've tested this pattern and it works as expected. Tested on ReFiddle here: http://refiddle.com/110

Edit: One small note, the easiest way to do this is with 3 separate regexes and the string's Length property. It's also easier to read and maintain, so do it that way if you have the option. If this is for validation rules in markup, though, you're probably stuck with a single regex.

How to automatically convert strongly typed enum into int?

A C++14 version of the answer provided by R. Martinho Fernandes would be:

#include <type_traits>

template <typename E>
constexpr auto to_underlying(E e) noexcept
{
    return static_cast<std::underlying_type_t<E>>(e);
}

As with the previous answer, this will work with any kind of enum and underlying type. I have added the noexcept keyword as it will never throw an exception.

Update
This also appears in Effective Modern C++ by Scott Meyers. See item 10 (it is detailed in the final pages of the item within my copy of the book).

Regex to validate password strength

You should also consider changing some of your rules to:

  1. Add more special characters i.e. %, ^, (, ), -, _, +, and period. I'm adding all the special characters that you missed above the number signs in US keyboards. Escape the ones regex uses.
  2. Make the password 8 or more characters. Not just a static number 8.

With the above improvements, and for more flexibility and readability, I would modify the regex to.

^(?=(.*[a-z]){3,})(?=(.*[A-Z]){2,})(?=(.*[0-9]){2,})(?=(.*[!@#$%^&*()\-__+.]){1,}).{8,}$

Basic Explanation

(?=(.*RULE){MIN_OCCURANCES,})

Each rule block is shown by (?=(){}). The rule and number of occurrences can then be easily specified and tested separately, before getting combined

Detailed Explanation

^                               start anchor
(?=(.*[a-z]){3,}) lowercase letters. {3,} indicates that you want 3 of this group
(?=(.*[A-Z]){2,}) uppercase letters. {2,} indicates that you want 2 of this group
(?=(.*[0-9]){2,}) numbers. {2,} indicates that you want 2 of this group
(?=(.*[!@#$%^&*()\-__+.]){1,}) all the special characters in the [] fields. The ones used by regex are escaped by using the \ or the character itself. {1,} is redundant, but good practice, in case you change that to more than 1 in the future. Also keeps all the groups consistent
{8,} indicates that you want 8 or more
$                               end anchor

And lastly, for testing purposes here is a robulink with the above regex

HTML5 Canvas background image

Theres a few ways you can do this. You can either add a background to the canvas you are currently working on, which if the canvas isn't going to be redrawn every loop is fine. Otherwise you can make a second canvas underneath your main canvas and draw the background to it. The final way is to just use a standard <img> element placed under the canvas. To draw a background onto the canvas element you can do something like the following:

Live Demo

var canvas = document.getElementById("canvas"),
    ctx = canvas.getContext("2d");

canvas.width = 903;
canvas.height = 657;

var background = new Image();
background.src = "http://www.samskirrow.com/background.png";

// Make sure the image is loaded first otherwise nothing will draw.
background.onload = function(){
    ctx.drawImage(background,0,0);
}

// Draw whatever else over top of it on the canvas.

HTML5 Canvas and Anti-aliasing

If you need pixel level control over canvas you can do using createImageData and putImageData.

HTML:

<canvas id="qrCode" width="200", height="200">
  QR Code
</canvas>

And JavaScript:

function setPixel(imageData, pixelData) {
  var index = (pixelData.x + pixelData.y * imageData.width) * 4;
    imageData.data[index+0] = pixelData.r;
    imageData.data[index+1] = pixelData.g;
    imageData.data[index+2] = pixelData.b;
    imageData.data[index+3] = pixelData.a;
}

element = document.getElementById("qrCode");
c = element.getContext("2d");

pixcelSize = 4;
width = element.width;
height = element.height;

imageData = c.createImageData(width, height);

for (i = 0; i < 1000; i++) {
  x = Math.random() * width / pixcelSize | 0; // |0 to Int32
  y = Math.random() * height / pixcelSize| 0;

  for(j=0;j < pixcelSize; j++){
    for(k=0;k < pixcelSize; k++){
     setPixel( imageData, {
         x: x * pixcelSize + j,
         y: y * pixcelSize + k,
         r: 0 | 0,
         g: 0 | 0,
         b: 0 * 256 | 0,
         a: 255 // 255 opaque
       });
      }
  }
}

c.putImageData(imageData, 0, 0);

jQuery hasAttr checking to see if there is an attribute on an element

How about just $(this).is("[name]")?

The [attr] syntax is the CSS selector for an element with an attribute attr, and .is() checks if the element it is called on matches the given CSS selector.

Disable all Database related auto configuration in Spring Boot

There's a way to exclude specific auto-configuration classes using @SpringBootApplication annotation.

@Import(MyPersistenceConfiguration.class)
@SpringBootApplication(exclude = {
        DataSourceAutoConfiguration.class,
        DataSourceTransactionManagerAutoConfiguration.class,
        HibernateJpaAutoConfiguration.class})
public class MySpringBootApplication {
    public static void main(String[] args) {
        SpringApplication.run(MySpringBootApplication.class, args);
    }
}

@SpringBootApplication#exclude attribute is an alias for @EnableAutoConfiguration#exclude attribute and I find it rather handy and useful.
I added @Import(MyPersistenceConfiguration.class) to the example to demonstrate how you can apply your custom database configuration.

How to get commit history for just one branch?

Note: if you limit that log to the last n commit (last 3 commits for instance, git log -3), make sure to put a space between 'n' and your branch:

git log -3 master..

Before Git 2.1 (August 2014), this mistake: git log -3master.. would actually show you the last 3 commits of the current branch (here my_experiment), ignoring the master limit (meaning if my_experiment contains only one commit, 3 would still be listed, 2 of them from master)

See commit e3fa568 by Junio C Hamano (gitster):

revision: parse "git log -<count>" more carefully

This mistyped command line simply ignores "master" and ends up showing two commits from the current HEAD:

$ git log -2master

because we feed "2master" to atoi() without making sure that the whole string is parsed as an integer.

Use the strtol_i() helper function instead.

What does "where T : class, new()" mean?

What comes after the "Where" is a constraint on the generic type T you declared, so:

  • class means that the T should be a class and not a value type or a struct.

  • new() indicates that the T class should have a public parameter-free default constructor defined.

Add & delete view from Layout

mViewStub.setVisibility(View.VISIBLE) or mViewStub.inflate();

To disappear:

How to pass data to all views in Laravel 5?

This target can achieve through different method,

1. Using BaseController

The way I like to set things up, I make a BaseController class that extends Laravel’s own Controller, and set up various global things there. All other controllers then extend from BaseController rather than Laravel’s Controller.

class BaseController extends Controller
{
  public function __construct()
  {
    //its just a dummy data object.
    $user = User::all();

    // Sharing is caring
    View::share('user', $user);
  }
}

2. Using Filter

If you know for a fact that you want something set up for views on every request throughout the entire application, you can also do it via a filter that runs before the request — this is how I deal with the User object in Laravel.

App::before(function($request)
{
  // Set up global user object for views
  View::share('user', User::all());
});

OR

You can define your own filter

Route::filter('user-filter', function() {
    View::share('user', User::all());
});

and call it through simple filter calling.

Update According to Version 5.*

3. Using Middleware

Using the View::share with middleware

Route::group(['middleware' => 'SomeMiddleware'], function(){
  // routes
});

class SomeMiddleware {
  public function handle($request)
  {
    \View::share('user', auth()->user());
  }
}

4. Using View Composer

View Composer also help to bind specific data to view in different ways. You can directly bind variable to specific view or to all views. For Example you can create your own directory to store your view composer file according to requirement. and these view composer file through Service provide interact with view.

View composer method can use different way, First example can look alike:

You could create an App\Http\ViewComposers directory.

Service Provider

namespace App\Providers;
use Illuminate\Support\ServiceProvider;
class ViewComposerServiceProvider extends ServiceProvider {
    public function boot() {
        view()->composer("ViewName","App\Http\ViewComposers\TestViewComposer");
    }
}

After that, add this provider to config/app.php under "providers" section.

TestViewComposer

namespace App\Http\ViewComposers;

use Illuminate\Contracts\View\View;

class TestViewComposer {

    public function compose(View $view) {
        $view->with('ViewComposerTestVariable', "Calling with View Composer Provider");
    }
}

ViewName.blade.php

Here you are... {{$ViewComposerTestVariable}}

This method could help for only specific View. But if you want trigger ViewComposer to all views, we have to apply this single change to ServiceProvider.

namespace App\Providers;
use Illuminate\Support\ServiceProvider;
class ViewComposerServiceProvider extends ServiceProvider {
    public function boot() {
        view()->composer('*',"App\Http\ViewComposers\TestViewComposer");
    }
}

jQuery Ajax PUT with parameters

Can you provide an example, because put should work fine as well?

Documentation -

The type of request to make ("POST" or "GET"); the default is "GET". Note: Other HTTP request methods, such as PUT and DELETE, can also be used here, but they are not supported by all browsers.

Have the example in fiddle and the form parameters are passed fine (as it is put it will not be appended to url) -

$.ajax({
  url: '/echo/html/',
  type: 'PUT',
  data: "name=John&location=Boston",
  success: function(data) {
    alert('Load was performed.');
  }
});

Javascript Array inside Array - how can I call the child array name?

You've made an array of arrays (multidimensional), so options[0] in this case is the size array. you need to reference the first element of the child, which for you is: options[0][0].

If you wanted to loop through all entries you can use the for .. in ... syntax which is described here.

var a = [1,2,4,5,120,12];
for (var val in t) {
    console.log(t[val]);
}

var b = ['S','M','L'];
var both = [a,b];

for (var val in both) {
     for(val2 in both[val]){console.log(both[val][val2])}
}

Playing a MP3 file in a WinForm application

You can do it using old DirectShow functionality.

This answer teaches you how to create QuartzTypeLib.dll:

  1. Run tlbimp tool (in your case path will be different):

  2. Run TlbImp.exe %windir%\system32\quartz.dll /out:QuartzTypeLib.dll

Alternatively, this project contains the library interop.QuartzTypeLib.dll, which is basically the same thing as steps 1. and 2. The following steps teach how to use this library:

  1. Add generated QuartzTypeLib.dll as a COM-reference to your project (click right mouse button on the project name in "Solution Explorer", then select "Add" menu item and then "Reference")

  2. In your Project, expand the "References", find the QuartzTypeLib reference. Right click it and select properties, and change "Embed Interop Types" to false. (Otherwise you won't be able to use the FilgraphManager class in your project (and probably a couple of other ones)).

  3. In Project Settings, in the Build tab, I had to disable the Prefer 32-bit flag, Otherwise I would get this Exception: System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException: Exception from HRESULT: 0x80040266

  4. Use this class to play your favorite MP3 file:

    using QuartzTypeLib;

    public sealed class DirectShowPlayer
    {
        private FilgraphManager FilterGraph;

        public void Play(string path)
        {
            FilgraphManager = new FilgraphManager();
            FilterGraph.RenderFile(path);
            FilterGraph.Run();
        }

        public void Stop()
        {
            FilterGraph?.Stop();
        }
    }

PS: TlbImp.exe can be found here: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v7.0A\Bin", or in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v10.0A\bin\NETFX 4.7.2 Tools"

What is the 'pythonic' equivalent to the 'fold' function from functional programming?

I may be quite late to the party, but we can create custom foldr using simple lambda calculus and curried function. Here is my implementation of foldr in python.

def foldr(func):
    def accumulator(acc):
        def listFunc(l):
            if l:
                x = l[0]
                xs = l[1:]
                return func(x)(foldr(func)(acc)(xs))
            else:
                return acc
        return listFunc
    return accumulator

def curried_add(x):
    def inner(y):
        return x + y
    return inner

def curried_mult(x):
    def inner(y):
        return x * y
    return inner

print foldr(curried_add)(0)(range(1, 6))
print foldr(curried_mult)(1)(range(1, 6))

Even though the implementation is recursive (might be slow), it will print the values 15 and 120 respectively

How to get access to raw resources that I put in res folder?

InputStream in = getResources().openRawResource(resourceName);

This will work correctly. Before that you have to create the xml file / text file in raw resource. Then it will be accessible.

Edit
Some times com.andriod.R will be imported if there is any error in layout file or image names. So You have to import package correctly, then only the raw file will be accessible.

Multiple values in single-value context

Here's a generic helper function with assumption checking:

func assumeNoError(value interface{}, err error) interface{} {
    if err != nil {
        panic("error encountered when none assumed:" + err.Error())
    }
    return value
}

Since this returns as an interface{}, you'll generally need to cast it back to your function's return type.

For example, the OP's example called Get(1), which returns (Item, error).

item := assumeNoError(Get(1)).(Item)

The trick that makes this possible: Multi-values returned from one function call can be passed in as multi-variable arguments to another function.

As a special case, if the return values of a function or method g are equal in number and individually assignable to the parameters of another function or method f, then the call f(g(parameters_of_g)) will invoke f after binding the return values of g to the parameters of f in order.

This answer borrows heavily from existing answers, but none had provided a simple, generic solution of this form.

How can I delay a method call for 1 second?

You can also:

[UIView animateWithDuration:1.0
                 animations:^{ self.view.alpha = 1.1; /* Some fake chages */ }
                 completion:^(BOOL finished)
{
    NSLog(@"A second lapsed.");
}];

This case you have to fake some changes to some view to get the animation work. It is hacky indeed, but I love the block based stuff. Or wrap up @mcfedr answer below.

waitFor(1.0, ^
{
    NSLog(@"A second lapsed");
});

typedef void (^WaitCompletionBlock)();
void waitFor(NSTimeInterval duration, WaitCompletionBlock completion)
{
    dispatch_after(dispatch_time(DISPATCH_TIME_NOW, duration * NSEC_PER_SEC),
                   dispatch_get_main_queue(), ^
    { completion(); });
}

"NOT IN" clause in LINQ to Entities

If you are using an in-memory collection as your filter, it's probably best to use the negation of Contains(). Note that this can fail if the list is too long, in which case you will need to choose another strategy (see below for using a strategy for a fully DB-oriented query).

   var exceptionList = new List<string> { "exception1", "exception2" };

   var query = myEntities.MyEntity
                         .Select(e => e.Name)
                         .Where(e => !exceptionList.Contains(e.Name));

If you're excluding based on another database query using Except might be a better choice. (Here is a link to the supported Set extensions in LINQ to Entities)

   var exceptionList = myEntities.MyOtherEntity
                                 .Select(e => e.Name);

   var query = myEntities.MyEntity
                         .Select(e => e.Name)
                         .Except(exceptionList);

This assumes a complex entity in which you are excluding certain ones depending some property of another table and want the names of the entities that are not excluded. If you wanted the entire entity, then you'd need to construct the exceptions as instances of the entity class such that they would satisfy the default equality operator (see docs).

How to check Network port access and display useful message?

Actually Shay levy's answer is almost correct but i got an weird issue as i mentioned in his comment column. So i split the command into two lines and it works fine.

$Ipaddress= Read-Host "Enter the IP address:"
$Port= Read-host "Enter the port number to access:"

$t = New-Object Net.Sockets.TcpClient
$t.Connect($Ipaddress,$Port)
    if($t.Connected)
    {
        "Port $Port is operational"
    }
    else
    {
        "Port $Port is closed, You may need to contact your IT team to open it. "
    }

JMS Topic vs Queues

A JMS topic is the type of destination in a 1-to-many model of distribution. The same published message is received by all consuming subscribers. You can also call this the 'broadcast' model. You can think of a topic as the equivalent of a Subject in an Observer design pattern for distributed computing. Some JMS providers efficiently choose to implement this as UDP instead of TCP. For topic's the message delivery is 'fire-and-forget' - if no one listens, the message just disappears. If that's not what you want, you can use 'durable subscriptions'.

A JMS queue is a 1-to-1 destination of messages. The message is received by only one of the consuming receivers (please note: consistently using subscribers for 'topic client's and receivers for queue client's avoids confusion). Messages sent to a queue are stored on disk or memory until someone picks it up or it expires. So queues (and durable subscriptions) need some active storage management, you need to think about slow consumers.

In most environments, I would argue, topics are the better choice because you can always add additional components without having to change the architecture. Added components could be monitoring, logging, analytics, etc. You never know at the beginning of the project what the requirements will be like in 1 year, 5 years, 10 years. Change is inevitable, embrace it :-)

C++ printing spaces or tabs given a user input integer

Just use std::string:

std::cout << std::string( n, ' ' );

In many cases, however, depending on what comes next, is may be simpler to just add n to the parameter to an std::setw.

Failed to configure a DataSource: 'url' attribute is not specified and no embedded datasource could be configured

It can be that your resources directory is not added to classpath when creating a project via Spring Initializr. So your application is never loading the application.properties file that you have configured.

To make a quick test if this is the case, add the following to your application.properties file:

server.port=8081

Now when running your application you should see in the spring boot console output something like this:

INFO o.s.b.w.e.tomcat.TomcatWebServer - Tomcat started on port(s): **8081** (http) with context path ''

If your port is still default 8080 and not changed to 8081, your application.properties files is obviously not loading.

You can also check if your application runs with gradle bootRun from command line. Which most likely will be work.

Solution:

  1. Close IntelliJ, then inside your project folder delete the ".idea" folder
  2. Reimport your project to IntelliJ like following: "Import Project" -> "select ONLY your build.gradle file to import". (IntelliJ will automatically grab the rest)
  3. build and run your application again

Remote Connections Mysql Ubuntu

Add few points on top of apesa's excellent post:

1) You can use command below to check the ip address mysql server is listening

netstat -nlt | grep 3306

sample result:

tcp 0  0  xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:3306  0.0.0.0:*   LISTEN

2) Use FLUSH PRIVILEGES to force grant tables to be loaded if for some reason the changes not take effective immediately

GRANT ALL ON *.* TO 'user'@'localhost' IDENTIFIED BY 'passwd' WITH GRANT OPTION;
GRANT ALL ON *.* TO 'user'@'%' IDENTIFIED BY 'passwd' WITH GRANT OPTION;
FLUSH PRIVILEGES;
EXIT;

user == the user u use to connect to mysql ex.root
passwd == the password u use to connect to mysql with

3) If netfilter firewall is enabled (sudo ufw enable) on mysql server machine, do the following to open port 3306 for remote access:

sudo ufw allow 3306

check status using

sudo ufw status

4) Once a remote connection is established, it can be verified in either client or server machine using commands

netstat -an | grep 3306
netstat -an | grep -i established

Graphviz: How to go from .dot to a graph?

Get the graphviz-2.24.msi Graphviz.org. Then get zgrviewer.

Zgrviewer requires java (probably 1.5+). You might have to set the paths to the Graphviz binaries in Zgrviewer's preferences.

File -> Open -> Open with dot -> SVG pipeline (standard) ... Pick your .dot file.

You can zoom in, export, all kinds of fun stuff.

Using CSS to affect div style inside iframe

Apparently it can be done via jQuery:

$('iframe').load( function() {
    $('iframe').contents().find("head")
      .append($("<style type='text/css'>  .my-class{display:none;}  </style>"));
});

In VBA get rid of the case sensitivity when comparing words?

If the list to compare against is large, (ie the manilaListRange range in the example above), it is a smart move to use the match function. It avoids the use of a loop which could slow down the procedure. If you can ensure that the manilaListRange is all upper or lower case then this seems to be the best option to me. It is quick to apply 'UCase' or 'LCase' as you do your match.

If you did not have control over the ManilaListRange then you might have to resort to looping through this range in which case there are many ways to compare 'search', 'Instr', 'replace' etc.

Visual Studio 2010 always thinks project is out of date, but nothing has changed

I think that you placed some newline or other whitespace. Remove it and press F5 again.

Print a div content using Jquery

Some jQuery research has failed, so I moved to JavaScript (thanks for your suggestion Anders).

And it is working well...

HTML

<div id='DivIdToPrint'>
    <p>This is a sample text for printing purpose.</p>
</div>
<p>Do not print.</p>
<input type='button' id='btn' value='Print' onclick='printDiv();'>

JavaScript

function printDiv()
{

  var divToPrint=document.getElementById('DivIdToPrint');

  var newWin=window.open('','Print-Window');

  newWin.document.open();

  newWin.document.write('<html><body onload="window.print()">'+divToPrint.innerHTML+'</body></html>');

  newWin.document.close();

  setTimeout(function(){newWin.close();},10);

}

Why split the <script> tag when writing it with document.write()?

I think is for prevent the browser's HTML parser from interpreting the <script>, and mainly the </script> as the closing tag of the actual script, however I don't think that using document.write is a excellent idea for evaluating script blocks, why don't use the DOM...

var newScript = document.createElement("script");
...

Single TextView with multiple colored text

Use SpannableStringBuilder

SpannableStringBuilder builder = new SpannableStringBuilder();

SpannableString str1= new SpannableString("Text1");
str1.setSpan(new ForegroundColorSpan(Color.RED), 0, str1.length(), 0);
builder.append(str1);

SpannableString str2= new SpannableString(appMode.toString());
str2.setSpan(new ForegroundColorSpan(Color.GREEN), 0, str2.length(), 0);
builder.append(str2);

TextView tv = (TextView) view.findViewById(android.R.id.text1);
tv.setText( builder, TextView.BufferType.SPANNABLE);

Python concatenate text files

  import os

    j=files.index(i)
    f_j=open(i,'r')
    print(f_j.read())
    for x in f_j:

execJs: 'Could not find a JavaScript runtime' but execjs AND therubyracer are in Gemfile

I am using Ubuntu 11.10- 32 bit with ruby 1.9.3p194, rails 3.2.3, gem 1.8.24. Was receiving the same Javascript error while running "script/rails console".

However doing a "sudo apt-get install nodejs" solved my issue.

Does uninstalling a package with "pip" also remove the dependent packages?

i've successfully removed dependencies of a package using this bash line:

for dep in $(pip show somepackage | grep Requires | sed 's/Requires: //g; s/,//g') ; do pip uninstall -y $dep ; done

this worked on pip 1.5.4

How to download/upload files from/to SharePoint 2013 using CSOM?

File.OpenBinaryDirect may cause exception when you are using Oauth accestoken Explained in This Article

React-router v4 this.props.history.push(...) not working

You need to export the Customers Component not the CustomerList.

    CustomersList = withRouter(Customers);
    export default CustomersList;

This declaration has no storage class or type specifier in C++

This is a mistake:

m.check(side);

That code has to go inside a function. Your class definition can only contain declarations and functions.

Classes don't "run", they provide a blueprint for how to make an object.

The line Message m; means that an Orderbook will contain Message called m, if you later create an Orderbook.

Does a favicon have to be 32x32 or 16x16?

I don't see any up to date info listed here, so here goes:

To answer this question now, 2 favicons will not do it if you want your icon to look great everywhere. See the sizes below:

How do I remove an object from an array with JavaScript?

Use the splice method.

(At least I assume that is the answer, you say you have an object, but the code you give just creates two variables, and there is no sign of how the Array is created)

How do you do exponentiation in C?

To add to what Evan said: C does not have a built-in operator for exponentiation, because it is not a primitive operation for most CPUs. Thus, it's implemented as a library function.

Also, for computing the function e^x, you can use the exp(double), expf(float), and expl(long double) functions.

Note that you do not want to use the ^ operator, which is the bitwise exclusive OR operator.

Visual Studio window which shows list of methods

I have been using USysWare DPack since forever. It is very small and not intrusive so if all you want is a quick shortcut window showing list of methods of the current file you are using, it provides just that. Good thing is that the author is still active after more than 10 years just to keep providing the same features into latest VS release.

https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName=SergeyM.DPack-16348

After installation, just use Alt + M to bring up the method list window. I prefer to show all members instead, but it's up to you.

Substitute a comma with a line break in a cell

For some reason, none of the above worked for me. This DID however:

  1. Selected the range of cells I needed to replace.
  2. Go to Home > Find & Select > Replace or Ctrl + H
  3. Find what: ,
  4. Replace with: CTRL + SHIFT + J
  5. Click Replace All

Somehow CTRL + SHIFT + J is registered as a linebreak.

How can I echo a newline in a batch file?

Here you go, create a .bat file with the following in it :

@echo off
REM Creating a Newline variable (the two blank lines are required!)
set NLM=^

set NL=^^^%NLM%%NLM%^%NLM%%NLM%
REM Example Usage:
echo There should be a newline%NL%inserted here.

echo.
pause

You should see output like the following:

There should be a newline
inserted here.

Press any key to continue . . .

You only need the code between the REM statements, obviously.

ssl.SSLError: tlsv1 alert protocol version

I believe TLSV1_ALERT_PROTOCOL_VERSION is alerting you that the server doesn't want to talk TLS v1.0 to you. Try to specify TLS v1.2 only by sticking in these lines:

import ssl
context = ssl.SSLContext(ssl.PROTOCOL_TLSv1_2)

# Create HTTPS connection
c = HTTPSConnection("0.0.0.0", context=context)

Note, you may need sufficiently new versions of Python (2.7.9+ perhaps?) and possibly OpenSSL (I have "OpenSSL 1.0.2k 26 Jan 2017" and the above seems to work, YMMV)

How do I make a composite key with SQL Server Management Studio?

iOS 7 App Icons, Launch images And Naming Convention While Keeping iOS 6 Icons

In case you do not want to use Asset Catalog, you can add an iOS 7 icon for an old app by creating a 120x120 .png image. Name it Icon-120.png and drag in to the project.

Under TARGET > Your App > Info > Icon files, add one more entry in the Target Properties:

enter image description here

I tested on Xcode 5 and an app was submitted without the missing retina icon warning.

gdb: how to print the current line or find the current line number?

Keep in mind that gdb is a powerful command -capable of low level instructions- so is tied to assembly concepts.

What you are looking for is called de instruction pointer, i.e:

The instruction pointer register points to the memory address which the processor will next attempt to execute. The instruction pointer is called ip in 16-bit mode, eip in 32-bit mode,and rip in 64-bit mode.

more detail here

all registers available on gdb execution can be shown with:

(gdb) info registers

with it you can find which mode your program is running (looking which of these registers exist)

then (here using most common register rip nowadays, replace with eip or very rarely ip if needed):

(gdb)info line *$rip

will show you line number and file source

(gdb) list *$rip

will show you that line with a few before and after

but probably

(gdb) frame

should be enough in many cases.

What's the best way to store a group of constants that my program uses?

You probably could have them in a static class, with static read-only properties.

public static class Routes
{
    public static string SignUp => "signup";
}

Parse v. TryParse

For the record, I am testing two codes: That simply try to convert from a string to a number and if it fail then assign number to zero.

        if (!Int32.TryParse(txt,out tmpint)) {
            tmpint = 0;
        }

and:

        try {
            tmpint = Convert.ToInt32(txt);
        } catch (Exception) {
            tmpint = 0;
        }

For c#, the best option is to use tryparse because try&Catch alternative thrown the exception

A first chance exception of type 'System.FormatException' occurred in mscorlib.dll

That it is painful slow and undesirable, however, the code does not stop unless Debug's exception are settled for stop with it.

Create random list of integers in Python

All the random methods end up calling random.random() so the best way is to call it directly:

[int(1000*random.random()) for i in xrange(10000)]

For example,

  • random.randint calls random.randrange.
  • random.randrange has a bunch of overhead to check the range before returning istart + istep*int(self.random() * n).

NumPy is much faster still of course.

Angular 4: InvalidPipeArgument: '[object Object]' for pipe 'AsyncPipe'

How to include Authorization header in cURL POST HTTP Request in PHP?

@jason-mccreary is totally right. Besides I recommend you this code to get more info in case of malfunction:

$rest = curl_exec($crl);

if ($rest === false)
{
    // throw new Exception('Curl error: ' . curl_error($crl));
    print_r('Curl error: ' . curl_error($crl));
}

curl_close($crl);
print_r($rest);

EDIT 1

To debug you can set CURLOPT_HEADER to true to check HTTP response with firebug::net or similar.

curl_setopt($crl, CURLOPT_HEADER, true);

EDIT 2

About Curl error: SSL certificate problem, verify that the CA cert is OK try adding this headers (just to debug, in a production enviroment you should keep these options in true):

curl_setopt($crl, CURLOPT_SSL_VERIFYHOST, false);
curl_setopt($crl, CURLOPT_SSL_VERIFYPEER, false);

How do I calculate the date in JavaScript three months prior to today?

There is an elegant answer already but I find that its hard to read so I made my own function. For my purposes I didn't need a negative result but it wouldn't be hard to modify.

    var subtractMonths = function (date1,date2) {
        if (date1-date2 <=0) {
            return 0;
        }
        var monthCount = 0;
        while (date1 > date2){
            monthCount++;
            date1.setMonth(date1.getMonth() -1);
        }
        return monthCount;
    }

How to identify a strong vs weak relationship on ERD?

The relationship Room to Class is considered weak (non-identifying) because the primary key components CID and DATE of entity Class doesn't contain the primary key RID of entity Room (in this case primary key of Room entity is a single component, but even if it was a composite key, one component of it also fulfills the condition).

However, for instance, in the case of the relationship Class and Class_Ins we see that is a strong (identifying) relationship because the primary key components EmpID and CID and DATE of Class_Ins contains a component of the primary key Class (in this case it contains both components CID and DATE).

Accessing Object Memory Address

With ctypes, you can achieve the same thing with

>>> import ctypes
>>> a = (1,2,3)
>>> ctypes.addressof(a)
3077760748L

Documentation:

addressof(C instance) -> integer
Return the address of the C instance internal buffer

Note that in CPython, currently id(a) == ctypes.addressof(a), but ctypes.addressof should return the real address for each Python implementation, if

  • ctypes is supported
  • memory pointers are a valid notion.

Edit: added information about interpreter-independence of ctypes

What does %s mean in a python format string?

Andrew's answer is good.

And just to help you out a bit more, here's how you use multiple formatting in one string

"Hello %s, my name is %s" % ('john', 'mike') # Hello john, my name is mike".

If you are using ints instead of string, use %d instead of %s.

"My name is %s and i'm %d" % ('john', 12) #My name is john and i'm 12

using href links inside <option> tag

The accepted solution looks good, but there is one case it cannot handle:

The "onchange" event will not be triggered when the same option is reselected. So, I came up with the following improvement:

HTML

<select id="sampleSelect" >
  <option value="Home.php">Home</option>
  <option value="Contact.php">Contact</option>
  <option value="Sitemap.php">Sitemap</option>
</select>

jQuery

$("select").click(function() {
  var open = $(this).data("isopen");
  if(open) {
    window.location.href = $(this).val()
  }
  //set isopen to opposite so next time when use clicked select box
  //it wont trigger this event
  $(this).data("isopen", !open);
});

How to filter empty or NULL names in a QuerySet?

To avoid common mistakes when using exclude, remember:

You can not add multiple conditions into an exclude() block like filter. To exclude multiple conditions, you must use multiple exclude()

Example

Incorrect:

User.objects.filter(email='[email protected]').exclude(profile__nick_name='', profile__avt='')

Correct:

User.objects.filter(email='[email protected]').exclude(profile__nick_name='').exclude(profile__avt='')

add new row in gridview after binding C#, ASP.net

you can try the following code

       if (dt.Columns.Count == 0)
       {

           dt.Columns.Add("IncrementAmt", typeof(string));
           dt.Columns.Add("Period", typeof(string));
       }

       DataRow NewRow = dt.NewRow();
       NewRow[0] = TextBox1.Text;

       dt.Rows.Add(NewRow);
       GridView1.DataSource = dt;

Completely removing phpMyAdmin

I had same problem. Try the following command. This solved my problem.

sudo apt-get install libapache2-mod-php5

warning: incompatible implicit declaration of built-in function ‘xyz’

In the case of some programs, these errors are normal and should not be fixed.

I get these error messages when compiling the program phrap (for example). This program happens to contain code that modifies or replaces some built in functions, and when I include the appropriate header files to fix the warnings, GCC instead generates a bunch of errors. So fixing the warnings effectively breaks the build.

If you got the source as part of a distribution that should compile normally, the errors might be normal. Consult the documentation to be sure.

Why do we need to install gulp globally and locally?

The question "Why do we need to install gulp globally and locally?" can be broken down into the following two questions:

  1. Why do I need to install gulp locally if I've already installed it globally?

  2. Why do I need to install gulp globally if I've already installed it locally?

Several others have provided excellent answers to theses questions in isolation, but I thought it would be beneficial to consolidate the information in a unified answer.

Why do I need to install gulp locally if I've already installed it globally?

The rationale for installing gulp locally is comprised of several reasons:

  1. Including the dependencies of your project locally ensures the version of gulp (or other dependencies) used is the originally intended version.
  2. Node doesn't consider global modules by default when using require() (which you need to include gulp within your script). Ultimately, this is because the path to the global modules isn't added to NODE_PATH by default.
  3. According to the Node development team, local modules load faster. I can't say why this is, but this would seem to be more relevant to node's use in production (i.e. run-time dependencies) than in development (i.e. dev dependencies). I suppose this is a legitimate reason as some may care about whatever minor speed advantage is gained loading local vs. global modules, but feel free to raise your eyebrow at this reason.

Why do I need to install gulp globally if I've already installed it locally?

  1. The rationale for installing gulp globally is really just the convenience of having the gulp executable automatically found within your system path.

To avoid installing locally you can use npm link [package], but the link command as well as the install --global command doesn't seem to support the --save-dev option which means there doesn't appear to be an easy way to install gulp globally and then easily add whatever version that is to your local package.json file.

Ultimately, I believe it makes more sense to have the option of using global modules to avoid having to duplicate the installation of common tools across all your projects, especially in the case of development tools such as grunt, gulp, jshint, etc. Unfortunately it seems you end up fighting the tools a bit when you go against the grain.

Responsive css styles on mobile devices ONLY

Why not use a media query range.

I'm currently working on a responsive layout for my employer and the ranges I'm using are as follows:

You have your main desktop styles in the body of the CSS file (1024px and above) and then for specific screen sizes I'm using:

@media all and (min-width:960px) and (max-width: 1024px) {
  /* put your css styles in here */
}

@media all and (min-width:801px) and (max-width: 959px) {
  /* put your css styles in here */
}

@media all and (min-width:769px) and (max-width: 800px) {
  /* put your css styles in here */
}

@media all and (min-width:569px) and (max-width: 768px) {
  /* put your css styles in here */
}

@media all and (min-width:481px) and (max-width: 568px) {
  /* put your css styles in here */
}

@media all and (min-width:321px) and (max-width: 480px) {
  /* put your css styles in here */
}

@media all and (min-width:0px) and (max-width: 320px) {
  /* put your css styles in here */
}

This will cover pretty much all devices being used - I would concentrate on getting the styling correct for the sizes at the end of the range (i.e. 320, 480, 568, 768, 800, 1024) as for all the others they will just be responsive to the size available.

Also, don't use px anywhere - use em's or %.

How to create a new variable in a data.frame based on a condition?

One obvious and straightforward possibility is to use "if-else conditions". In that example

x <- c(1, 2, 4)
y <- c(1, 4, 5)
w <- ifelse(x <= 1, "good", ifelse((x >= 3) & (x <= 5), "bad", "fair"))
data.frame(x, y, w)

** For the additional question in the edit** Is that what you expect ?

> d1 <- c("e", "c", "a")
> d2 <- c("e", "a", "b")
>
> w <- ifelse((d1 == "e") & (d2 == "e"), 1,
+    ifelse((d1=="a") & (d2 == "b"), 2,
+    ifelse((d1 == "e"), 3, 99)))
>
> data.frame(d1, d2, w)
  d1 d2  w
1  e  e  1
2  c  a 99
3  a  b  2

If you do not feel comfortable with the ifelse function, you can also work with the if and else statements for such applications.

Custom toast on Android: a simple example

A toast is for showing messages for short intervals of time; So, as per my understanding, you would like to customize it with adding an image to it and changing size, color of the message text. If that is all, you want to do, then there is no need to make a separate layout and inflate it to the Toast instance.

The default Toast's view contains a TextView for showing messages on it. So, if we have the resource id reference of that TextView, we can play with it. So below is what can you do to achieve this:

Toast toast = Toast.makeText(this, "I am custom Toast!", Toast.LENGTH_LONG);
View toastView = toast.getView(); // This'll return the default View of the Toast.

/* And now you can get the TextView of the default View of the Toast. */
TextView toastMessage = (TextView) toastView.findViewById(android.R.id.message);
toastMessage.setTextSize(25);
toastMessage.setTextColor(Color.RED);
toastMessage.setCompoundDrawablesWithIntrinsicBounds(R.mipmap.ic_fly, 0, 0, 0);
toastMessage.setGravity(Gravity.CENTER);
toastMessage.setCompoundDrawablePadding(16);
toastView.setBackgroundColor(Color.CYAN);
toast.show();

In above code you can see, you can add image to TextView via setCompoundDrawablesWithIntrinsicBounds(int left, int top, int right, int bottom) whichever position relative to TextView you want to.

Update:

Have written a builder class to simplify the above purpose; Here is the link: https://gist.github.com/TheLittleNaruto/6fc8f6a2b0d0583a240bd78313ba83bc

Check the HowToUse.kt in above link.

@vomako 's solution almost solved my problem but I had to take another couple of steps.

I refer to the following...

In Xcode 6.1.1, I went to Preferences --> Accounts --> View Details

After upgrading to Xcode 6.1.1, the main issue for me that the >View Details button was greyed out.

I had to delete my account, restart Xcode, then add my developer account back in.

After this step, I could yet again view details and refresh my provisioning profiles.

How can I display my windows user name in excel spread sheet using macros?

Range("A1").value = Environ("Username")

This is better than Application.Username, which doesn't always supply the Windows username. Thanks to Kyle for pointing this out.

  • Application Username is the name of the User set in Excel > Tools > Options
  • Environ("Username") is the name you registered for Windows; see Control Panel >System

Error: JavaFX runtime components are missing, and are required to run this application with JDK 11

This worked for me:

File >> Project Structure >> Modules >> Dependency >> + (on left-side of window)

clicking the "+" sign will let you designate the directory where you have unpacked JavaFX's "lib" folder.

Scope is Compile (which is the default.) You can then edit this to call it JavaFX by double-clicking on the line.

then in:

Run >> Edit Configurations

Add this line to VM Options:

--module-path /path/to/JavaFX/lib --add-modules=javafx.controls

(oh and don't forget to set the SDK)

Reading an image file in C/C++

If you decide to go for a minimal approach, without libpng/libjpeg dependencies, I suggest using stb_image and stb_image_write, found here.

It's as simple as it gets, you just need to place the header files stb_image.h and stb_image_write.h in your folder.

Here's the code that you need to read images:

#include <stdint.h>

#define STB_IMAGE_IMPLEMENTATION
#include "stb_image.h"

int main() {
    int width, height, bpp;

    uint8_t* rgb_image = stbi_load("image.png", &width, &height, &bpp, 3);

    stbi_image_free(rgb_image);

    return 0;
}

And here's the code to write an image:

#include <stdint.h>

#define STB_IMAGE_WRITE_IMPLEMENTATION
#include "stb_image_write.h"

#define CHANNEL_NUM 3

int main() {
    int width = 800;
    int height = 800;

    uint8_t* rgb_image;
    rgb_image = malloc(width*height*CHANNEL_NUM);

    // Write your code to populate rgb_image here

    stbi_write_png("image.png", width, height, CHANNEL_NUM, rgb_image, width*CHANNEL_NUM);

    return 0;
}

You can compile without flags or dependencies:

g++ main.cpp

Other lightweight alternatives include:

Displaying tooltip on mouse hover of a text

How to create Password Field in Model Django

I thinks it is vary helpful way.

models.py

from django.db import models
class User(models.Model):
    user_name = models.CharField(max_length=100)
    password = models.CharField(max_length=32)

forms.py

from django import forms
from Admin.models import *
class User_forms(forms.ModelForm):
    class Meta:
        model= User
        fields=[
           'user_name',
           'password'
            ]
       widgets = {
      'password': forms.PasswordInput()
         }

jQuery - If element has class do this

First, you're missing some parentheses in your conditional:

if ($("#about").hasClass("opened")) {
  $("#about").animate({right: "-700px"}, 2000);
}

But you can also simplify this to:

$('#about.opened').animate(...);

If #about doesn't have the opened class, it won't animate.

If the problem is with the animation itself, we'd need to know more about your element positioning (absolute? absolute inside relative parent? does the parent have layout?)

How to abort a Task like aborting a Thread (Thread.Abort method)?

  1. You shouldn't use Thread.Abort()
  2. Tasks can be Cancelled but not aborted.

The Thread.Abort() method is (severely) deprecated.

Both Threads and Tasks should cooperate when being stopped, otherwise you run the risk of leaving the system in a unstable/undefined state.

If you do need to run a Process and kill it from the outside, the only safe option is to run it in a separate AppDomain.

This answer is about .net 3.5 and earlier.

Thread-abort handling has been improved since then, a.o. by changing the way finally blocks work.

But Thread.Abort is still a suspect solution that you should always try to avoid.

Android Studio 3.0 Execution failed for task: unable to merge dex

This error happens when you add an external library which may not be compatible with your compileSdkVersion .

Be careful when you are adding an external library.

I spent 2 days on this problem and finally it got solved following these steps.

  • Make sure all your support libraries are same as compileSdkVersion of your build.gradle(Module:app) in my case it is 26. enter image description here

  • In your defaultConfig category type multiDexEnabled true. This is the important part. multiDexEnabled True image

  • Go to File | Settings | Build, Execution, Deployment | Instant Run and try to Enable/Disable Instant Run to hot swap... and click okay Enable Instant Run to Hot swap... Image

  • Sync Your project.

  • Lastly, Go to Build | click on Rebuild Project.

  • Note: Rebuild Project first cleans and then builds the project.

How do you install Boost on MacOS?

Install both of them using homebrew separately.

How/When does Execute Shell mark a build as failure in Jenkins?

In my opinion, turning off the -e option to your shell is a really bad idea. Eventually one of the commands in your script will fail due to transient conditions like out of disk space or network errors. Without -e Jenkins won't notice and will continue along happily. If you've got Jenkins set up to do deployment, that may result in bad code getting pushed and bringing down your site.

If you have a line in your script where failure is expected, like a grep or a find, then just add || true to the end of that line. That ensures that line will always return success.

If you need to use that exit code, you can either hoist the command into your if statement:

grep foo bar; if [ $? == 0 ]; then ...    -->   if grep foo bar; then ...

Or you can capture the return code in your || clause:

grep foo bar || ret=$?

How to hide element using Twitter Bootstrap and show it using jQuery?

Another way to address this annoyance is to create your own CSS class that does not set the !important at the end of rule, like this:

.hideMe {
    display: none;
}

and used like so :

<div id="header-mask" class="hideMe"></div>

and now jQuery hiding works

$('#header-mask').show();

ReCaptcha API v2 Styling

If someone is still interested, there is a simple javascript library (no jQuery dependency), named custom recaptcha. It lets you customize the button with css and implement some js events (ready/checked). The idea is to make the default recaptcha "invisible" and put a button over it. Just change the id of the recaptcha and that's it.

<head>
    <script src="https://azentreprise.org/download/custom-recaptcha.min.js"></script>
    <style type="text/css">
        #captcha {
            float: left;
            margin: 2%;

            background-color: rgba(72, 61, 139, 0.5); /* darkslateblue with 50% opacity */
            border-radius: 2px;

            font-size: 1em;
            color: #C0FFEE;
        }

        #captcha.success {
            background-color: rgba(50, 205, 50, 0.5); /* limegreen with 50% opacity */
            color: limegreen;
        }
    </style>
</head>
<body>
    <div id="captcha" data-sitekey="your_site_key" data-label="Click here" data-label-spacing="15"></div>
</body>

Spring 3 MVC accessing HttpRequest from controller

Spring MVC will give you the HttpRequest if you just add it to your controller method signature:

For instance:

/**
 * Generate a PDF report...
 */
@RequestMapping(value = "/report/{objectId}", method = RequestMethod.GET)
public @ResponseBody void generateReport(
        @PathVariable("objectId") Long objectId,
        HttpServletRequest request,
        HttpServletResponse response) {

    // ...
    // Here you can use the request and response objects like:
    // response.setContentType("application/pdf");
    // response.getOutputStream().write(...);

}

As you see, simply adding the HttpServletRequest and HttpServletResponse objects to the signature makes Spring MVC to pass those objects to your controller method. You'll want the HttpSession object too.

EDIT: It seems that HttpServletRequest/Response are not working for some people under Spring 3. Try using Spring WebRequest/WebResponse objects as Eduardo Zola pointed out.

I strongly recommend you to have a look at the list of supported arguments that Spring MVC is able to auto-magically inject to your handler methods.

JFrame in full screen Java

First of all, that is the resolution you would want to use, 1650,1080.

Now add:

frame.setExtendedState(JFrame.MAXIMIZED_BOTH);

If you have issues with the components on the JFrame, then after you have added all the components using the frame.add(component) method, add the following statement.

frame.pack();

What does API level mean?

An API is ready-made source code library.

In Java for example APIs are a set of related classes and interfaces that come in packages. This picture illustrates the libraries included in the Java Standard Edition API. Packages are denoted by their color.

This pictures illustrates the libraries included in the Java Standard Edition API

Difference between getContext() , getApplicationContext() , getBaseContext() and "this"

getApplicationContext()

this is used for application level and refer to all activities.

getContext() and getBaseContext()

is most probably same .these are reffered only current activity which is live.

this

is refer current class object always.

7-zip commandline

7-Zip wants relative paths in the list file otherwise it will store only the filenames, causing duplicate file name error.

Assuming that your list contains full path names:

  • Edit the list file to remove drive prefix, C:\
  • Make sure you are in the root of the drive when you run 7Z to use the above list file.
  • Then it will store the paths and won't complain of the duplicate name. It wants relative paths in the list file.

If your list file has paths relative to another folder, you should be running 7Z from that folder.

Update: I noticed from another post above that the new 7-Zip has an -spf option that doesn't require the above steps. Not tested it yet but my steps are for earlier versions that do not have this option.

How do I keep a label centered in WinForms?

I wanted to do something similar, but on a form with a background image, I found that when the text in the label changed the repaints were obvious with this method, so I did the following: * Set the label AutoSize to true and TextAlign to MiddleCenter

Then, each time the text changed (mine was done using a timer) I called the following method:

    private Point GetPosition()
    {
        int y = (this.Height / 2) - (label1.Height / 2);
        int x = (this.Width / 2) - (label1.Width / 2);
        return new Point(x, y);
    }

And set the label's Location property to this return value. This ensured that the label was always in the center of the form when the text changed and the repaints for a full-screen form weren't obvious.

File path to resource in our war/WEB-INF folder?

I know this is late, but this is how I normally do it,

ClassLoader classLoader = Thread.currentThread().getContextClassLoader();
InputStream stream = classLoader.getResourceAsStream("../test/foo.txt");

Copy and paste content from one file to another file in vi

These remaps work like a charm for me:

vmap <C-c> "*y " Yank current selection into system clipboard
nmap <C-c> "*Y " Yank current line into system clipboard (if nothing is selected)
nmap <C-v> "*p " Paste from system clipboard

So, when I'm at visual mode, I select the lines I want and press Ctrl + c and then Ctrl + v to insert the text in the receiver file. You could use "*y as well, but I think this is hard to remember sometimes.

This is also useful to copy text from Vim to clipboard.

Android textview outline text

It is quite an old question but still I don't see any complete answers. So I am posting this solution, hoping that someone struggling with this problem might find it useful. The simplest and most effective solution is to override TextView class' onDraw method. Most implementations I have seen use drawText method to draw the stroke but that approach doesn't account for all the formatting alignment and text wrapping that goes in. And as a result often the stroke and text end up at different places. Following approach uses super.onDraw to draw both the stroke and fill parts of the text so you don't have to bother about rest of the stuff. Here are the steps

  1. Extend TextView class
  2. Override onDraw method
  3. Set paint style to FILL
  4. call parent class on Draw to render text in fill mode.
  5. save current text color.
  6. Set current text color to your stroke color
  7. Set paint style to Stroke
  8. Set stroke width
  9. And call parent class onDraw again to draw the stroke over the previously rendered text.

                p.setStyle(Paint.Style.FILL);
                //draw the fill part of text
                super.onDraw(canvas);
                //save the text color
                int currentTextColor = getCurrentTextColor();
                //set paint to stroke mode and specify
                //stroke color and width
                p.setStyle(Paint.Style.STROKE);
                p.setStrokeWidth(_strokeWidth);
                setTextColor(_strokeColor);
                //draw text stroke
                super.onDraw(canvas);

        * @return device specific pixel value.
        */
       public static int dpToPx(Context context, float dp)
       {
           final float scale= context.getResources().getDisplayMetrics().density;
           return (int) (dp * scale + 0.5f);
       }
    }

That is all. This class uses custom XML attributes to enable specifying stroke color and width from the XML layout files. Therefore, you need to add these attributes in your attr.xml file in subfolder 'values' under folder 'res'. Copy and paste the following in your attr.xml file.

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<resources>

    <declare-styleable name="StrokedTextAttrs">
        <attr name="textStrokeColor" format="color"/>
        <attr name="textStrokeWidth" format="float"/>
    </declare-styleable>

</resources>

Once you are done with that, you can use the custom StrokedTextView class in your XML layout files and specify stroke color and width as well. Here is an example

<com.example.widgets.StrokedTextView
    android:layout_width="wrap_content"
    android:layout_height="wrap_content"

    android:textColor="@android:color/white"
    android:textSize="25sp"

Remember to replace package name with your project's package name. Also add the xmlns namespace in the layout file in order to use custom XML attributes. You can add the following line in your layout file's root node.

xmlns:strokeAttrs="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto"

How do I convert Long to byte[] and back in java

If you are looking for a fast unrolled version, this should do the trick, assuming a byte array called "b" with a length of 8:

byte[] -> long

long l = ((long) b[7] << 56)
       | ((long) b[6] & 0xff) << 48
       | ((long) b[5] & 0xff) << 40
       | ((long) b[4] & 0xff) << 32
       | ((long) b[3] & 0xff) << 24
       | ((long) b[2] & 0xff) << 16
       | ((long) b[1] & 0xff) << 8
       | ((long) b[0] & 0xff);

long -> byte[] as an exact counterpart to the above

byte[] b = new byte[] {
       (byte) lng,
       (byte) (lng >> 8),
       (byte) (lng >> 16),
       (byte) (lng >> 24),
       (byte) (lng >> 32),
       (byte) (lng >> 40),
       (byte) (lng >> 48),
       (byte) (lng >> 56)};

phpMyAdmin on MySQL 8.0

To fix this issue I just run one query in my mysql console.

For this login to mysql console using this

mysql -u {username} -p{password}

After this I just run one query as given below:-

ALTER user '{USERNAME}'@'localhost' identified with mysql_native_password by '{PASSWORD}';

when I run this query I got message that query executed. Then login to PHPMYADMIN with username/password.

Is it a good practice to use an empty URL for a HTML form's action attribute? (action="")

I used to do this a lot when I worked with Classic ASP. Usually I used it when server-side validation was needed of some sort for the input (before the days of AJAX). The main draw back I see is that it doesn't separate programming logic from the presentation, at the file level.

MySQL string replace

You can simply use replace() function,

with where clause-

update tabelName set columnName=REPLACE(columnName,'from','to') where condition;

without where clause-

update tabelName set columnName=REPLACE(columnName,'from','to');

Note: The above query if for update records directly in table, if you want on select query and the data should not be affected in table then can use the following query-

select REPLACE(columnName,'from','to') as updateRecord;

Sort array of objects by single key with date value

As This answer's states, you can use Array.sort.

How can I format my grep output to show line numbers at the end of the line, and also the hit count?

grep find the lines and output the line numbers, but does not let you "program" other things. If you want to include arbitrary text and do other "programming", you can use awk,

$ awk '/null/{c++;print $0," - Line number: "NR}END{print "Total null count: "c}' file
example two null, - Line number: 2
example four null, - Line number: 4
Total null count: 2

Or only using the shell(bash/ksh)

c=0
while read -r line
do
  case "$line" in
   *null* )  (
    ((c++))
    echo "$line - Line number $c"
    ;;
  esac
done < "file"
echo "total count: $c"

How to get HttpClient returning status code and response body?

Fluent facade API:

Response response = Request.Get(uri)
        .connectTimeout(MILLIS_ONE_SECOND)
        .socketTimeout(MILLIS_ONE_SECOND)
        .execute();
HttpResponse httpResponse = response.returnResponse();
StatusLine statusLine = httpResponse.getStatusLine();
if (statusLine.getStatusCode() == HttpStatus.SC_OK) {
    // ??????????(???????)
    String responseContent = EntityUtils.toString(
            httpResponse.getEntity(), StandardCharsets.UTF_8.name());
}

Get the current fragment object

I think you can use onAttachFragment event may be useful to catch which fragment is active.

@Override
public void onAttachFragment(Fragment fragment) {
    // TODO Auto-generated method stub
    super.onAttachFragment(fragment);

    Toast.makeText(getApplicationContext(), String.valueOf(fragment.getId()), Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show();

}

Node.js Hostname/IP doesn't match certificate's altnames

A slightly updated answer (since I ran into this problem in different circumstances.)

When you connect to a server using SSL, the first thing the server does is present a certificate which says "I am api.dropbox.com." The certificate has a "subject" and the subject has a "CN" (short for "common name".) The certificate may also have one or more "subjectAltNames". When node.js connects to a server, node.js fetches this certificate, and then verifies that the domain name it thinks it's connecting to (api.dropbox.com) matches either the subject's CN or one of the altnames. Note that, in node 0.10.x, if you connect using an IP, the IP address has to be in the altnames - node.js will not try to verify the IP against the CN.

Setting the rejectUnauthorized flag to false will get around this check, but first of all if the server is giving you different credentials than you are expecting, something fishy is going on, and second this will also bypass other checks - it's not a good idea if you're connecting over the Internet.

If you are using node >= 0.11.x, you can also specify a checkServerIdentity: function(host, cert) function to the tls module, which should return undefined if you want to allow the connection and throw an exception otherwise (although I don't know if request will proxy this flag through to tls for you.) It can be handy to declare such a function and console.log(host, cert); to figure out what the heck is going on.

HTML 5: Is it <br>, <br/>, or <br />?

<br> doesn't need an end tag. As per W3S:

The <br> tag is an empty tag which means that it has no end tag.

It's also supported by all major browsers. HTML Tag

How to remove "disabled" attribute using jQuery?

This was the only code that worked for me:

element.removeProp('disabled')

Note that it's removeProp and not removeAttr.

I'm using jQuery 2.1.3 here.

What is the difference between a candidate key and a primary key?

There is no difference. A primary key is a candidate key. By convention one candidate key in a relation is usually chosen to be the "primary" one but the choice is essentially arbitrary and a matter of convenience for database users/designers/developers. It doesn't make a "primary" key fundamentally any different to any other candidate key.

hibernate: LazyInitializationException: could not initialize proxy

If you are using hibernate with JPA annotations then this will be useful. In your service class there should be a setter for entity manager with @PersistenceContext. change this to @PersistenceContext(type = PersistenceContextType.EXTENDED). Then you can access lazy property in any where.

Hashcode and Equals for Hashset

I think your questions will all be answered if you understand how Sets, and in particular HashSets work. A set is a collection of unique objects, with Java defining uniqueness in that it doesn't equal anything else (equals returns false).

The HashSet takes advantage of hashcodes to speed things up. It assumes that two objects that equal eachother will have the same hash code. However it does not assume that two objects with the same hash code mean they are equal. This is why when it detects a colliding hash code, it only compares with other objects (in your case one) in the set with the same hash code.

Installing mcrypt extension for PHP on OSX Mountain Lion

Brew base solution worked for me

  1. Install these packages

    $brew install brew install mcrypt php54-mcrypt

  2. Copy default php.ini.default to php.ini

    $sudo cp /private/etc/php.ini.default /private/etc/php.ini

  3. Add this line to php.ini file extension section - please verify extension path with install location in your machine

    extension="/usr/local/Cellar/php54-mcrypt/5.3.26/mcrypt.so"

  4. Restart your apache server

    $apache restart

Pass form data to another page with php

The best way to accomplish that is to use POST which is a method of Hypertext Transfer Protocol https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/HTTP/Methods

You would need to do something like this. I am typing this off the top of my head, so this may not be 100% correct.

Temporarily switch working copy to a specific Git commit

If you are at a certain branch mybranch, just go ahead and git checkout commit_hash. Then you can return to your branch by git checkout mybranch. I had the same game bisecting a bug today :) Also, you should know about git bisect.

How to resolve "Waiting for Debugger" message?

Android Studio 1.2.2 on Mac OS 10.10 Same problem as others have reported. I closed Android Studio, then checked from command line in terminal:

How to import .py file from another directory?

Python3:

import importlib.machinery

loader = importlib.machinery.SourceFileLoader('report', '/full/path/report/other_py_file.py')
handle = loader.load_module('report')

handle.mainFunction(parameter)

This method can be used to import whichever way you want in a folder structure (backwards, forwards doesn't really matter, i use absolute paths just to be sure).

There's also the more normal way of importing a python module in Python3,

import importlib
module = importlib.load_module('folder.filename')
module.function()

Kudos to Sebastian for spplying a similar answer for Python2:

import imp

foo = imp.load_source('module.name', '/path/to/file.py')
foo.MyClass()

java.net.ConnectException: localhost/127.0.0.1:8080 - Connection refused

Since you have not specified you are connected to a server from the device or emulator so I guess you are using your application in the emulator.

If you are referring your localhost on your system from the Android emulator then you have to use http://10.0.2.2:8080/ Because Android emulator runs in a Virtual Machine therefore here 127.0.0.1 or localhost will be emulator's own loopback address.
