Double is a wrapper class,
The Double class wraps a value of the primitive type double in an object. An object of type Double contains a single field whose type is double.
In addition, this class provides several methods for converting a double to a String and a String to a double, as well as other constants and methods useful when dealing with a double.
The double data type,
The double data type is a double-precision 64-bit IEEE 754 floating point. Its range of values is 4.94065645841246544e-324d to 1.79769313486231570e+308d (positive or negative). For decimal values, this data type is generally the default choice. As mentioned above, this data type should never be used for precise values, such as currency.
Check each datatype with their ranges : Java's Primitive Data Types.
Important Note : If you'r thinking to use double for precise values, you need to re-think before using it. Java Traps: double
Many ways to do this. ismember is the first that comes to mind, since it is a set membership action you wish to take. Thus

Since 15 is not prime, but 17 is, ismember has done its job well here.
Of course, find (or any) will also work. But these are not vectorized in the sense that ismember was. We can test to see if 15 is in the set represented by X, but to test both of those numbers will take a loop, or successive tests.

Finally, I would point out that tests for exact values are dangerous if the numbers may be true floats. Tests against integer values as I have shown are easy. But tests against floating point numbers should usually employ a tolerance.

I think most use cases will want to work with floats and then only print to a specific precision.
Those that want the numbers themselves to be stored to exactly 2 decimal digits of precision, I suggest use the decimal type. More reading on floating point precision for those that are interested.

to 5.0
. You're getting integer division.
Most commonly, you'd use:

The built-in comparison operations differ as in when you compare 2 numbers with floating point, the difference in data type (i.e. float or double) may result in different outcomes.
Setting a fixed number of decimal places globally is often a bad idea since it is unlikely that it will be an appropriate number of decimal places for all of your various data that you will display regardless of magnitude. Instead, try this which will give you scientific notation only for large and very small values (and adds a thousands separator unless you omit the ","):

You only initialize the first N positions to the values in braces and all others are initialized to 0. In this case, N is the number of arguments you passed to the initialization list, i.e.,

Additionally, there is small "hack" to put float number into dimension, but be WARNED that this is really hack, and you are risking chance to lose float range and precision.

Note: the num variable can be any value close to 99.463, you will get the same print out. The point is to avoid the convenient c++11 "to_string" function. It took me a while to get out this trap. The best way is the stringstream and sprintf methods (C language). C++11 or newer should provided a second parameter as the number of digits after the floating point to show. Right now the default is 6. I am positing this so that others won't wast time on this subject.
I wrote my first version, please let me know if you find any bug that needs to be fixed. You can control the exact behavior with the iomanipulator. My function is for showing the number of digits after the decimal point.

The first thing you need to do is use the decimal
type instead of float

Summary
Floating point arithmetic is exact, unfortunately, it doesn't match up well with our usual base-10 number representation, so it turns out we are often giving it input that is slightly off from what we wrote.
Even simple numbers like 0.01, 0.02, 0.03, 0.04 ... 0.24 are not representable exactly as binary fractions. If you count up 0.01, .02, .03 ..., not until you get to 0.25 will you get the first fraction representable in base2. If you tried that using FP, your 0.01 would have been slightly off, so the only way to add 25 of them up to a nice exact 0.25 would have required a long chain of causality involving guard bits and rounding. It's hard to predict so we throw up our hands and say "FP is inexact", but that's not really true.
We constantly give the FP hardware something that seems simple in base 10 but is a repeating fraction in base 2.
How did this happen?
When we write in decimal, every fraction (specifically, every terminating decimal) is a rational number of the form
a / (2n x 5m)
In binary, we only get the 2n term, that is:
a / 2n
So in decimal, we can't represent 1/3. Because base 10 includes 2 as a prime factor, every number we can write as a binary fraction also can be written as a base 10 fraction. However, hardly anything we write as a base10 fraction is representable in binary. In the range from 0.01, 0.02, 0.03 ... 0.99, only three numbers can be represented in our FP format: 0.25, 0.50, and 0.75, because they are 1/4, 1/2, and 3/4, all numbers with a prime factor using only the 2n term.
In base10 we can't represent 1/3. But in binary, we can't do 1/10 or 1/3.
So while every binary fraction can be written in decimal, the reverse is not true. And in fact most decimal fractions repeat in binary.
Dealing with it
Developers are usually instructed to do < epsilon comparisons, better advice might be to round to integral values (in the C library: round() and roundf(), i.e., stay in the FP format) and then compare. Rounding to a specific decimal fraction length solves most problems with output.
Also, on real number-crunching problems (the problems that FP was invented for on early, frightfully expensive computers) the physical constants of the universe and all other measurements are only known to a relatively small number of significant figures, so the entire problem space was "inexact" anyway. FP "accuracy" isn't a problem in this kind of application.
The whole issue really arises when people try to use FP for bean counting. It does work for that, but only if you stick to integral values, which kind of defeats the point of using it. This is why we have all those decimal fraction software libraries.
I love the Pizza answer by Chris, because it describes the actual problem, not just the usual handwaving about "inaccuracy". If FP were simply "inaccurate", we could fix that and would have done it decades ago. The reason we haven't is because the FP format is compact and fast and it's the best way to crunch a lot of numbers. Also, it's a legacy from the space age and arms race and early attempts to solve big problems with very slow computers using small memory systems. (Sometimes, individual magnetic cores for 1-bit storage, but that's another story.)
Conclusion
If you are just counting beans at a bank, software solutions that use decimal string representations in the first place work perfectly well. But you can't do quantum chromodynamics or aerodynamics that way.
Always use the printf
family of functions for this. Even if you want to get the value as a float, you're best off using snprintf
to get the rounded value as a string and then parsing it back with atof
:

Note that the value we started with was less than 0.015, and so the mathematically correct answer when rounding it to 2 decimal places is 0.01. Of course, 0.01 is not exactly representable as a double, but we expect our result to be the double nearest to 0.01. Using snprintf
gives us that result, but using round(100 * x) / 100
gives us 0.02, which is wrong. Why? Because 100 * x
gives us exactly 1.5 as the result. Multiplying by 100 thus changes the correct direction to round in.
To illustrate the second kind of error - the result sometimes being wrong due to * 100
and / 100
not truly being inverses of each other - we can do a similar exercise with a very big number:

method returns the right result again, but the multiply-then-round-then-divide approach fails. That's because the mathematically correct value of 8631192423766613.0 * 100

, is not exactly representable as a double; the closest value is 863119242376661248.0
. When you divide that back by 100, you get 8631192423766612.0
- a different number to the one you started with.
Hopefully that's a sufficient demonstration that using roundf
for rounding to a number of decimal places is broken, and that you should use snprintf
instead. If that feels like a horrible hack to you, perhaps you'll be reassured by the knowledge that it's basically what CPython does.
In addition to SG's answer, you can also use the Decimal module:

American currency can easily be represented with dollar and cent amounts. Integers are 100% precise, while floating point binary numbers do not exactly match floating point decimals.
Short answer: Always use BigDecimal and make sure you are using the constructor with String argument, not the double one.

See if the BSD C Standard Library has fcvt(). You could start with the source for it that rather than writing your code from scratch. The UNIX 98 standard fcvt() apparently does not output scientific notation so you would have to implement it yourself, but I don't think it would be hard.

This function requires no modules.
Maybe the best idea is to solve the problem while the data is in String format. If you have the data as String, you may parse it according to the decimal point. You extract the integral and decimal part as Substrings and then convert these substrings to actual integers.
If you could reload this, you might be able to use dtypes argument.

Some form of rounding is often unavoidable when dealing with floating point numbers. This is because numbers that you can express exactly in base 10 cannot always be expressed exactly in base 2 (which your computer uses).

It may be very simple, but couldn't you just round it up then minus 1? For example:

When you try to multiply a float by growthRates (which is a list), you get that error.
In Java, when you type a decimal number as 3.6
, its interpreted as a double

is a 64-bit precision IEEE 754 floating point, while float

If you want to create a float, you should end your number with f

The variable in the for loop is an integer sequence, and so eventually you do this:

I find the "parseInt" suggestions to be pretty curious, because "parseInt" operates on strings by design. That's why its name has the word "parse" in it.
A trick that avoids a function call entirely is
var truncated = ~~number;
The double application of the "~" unary operator will leave you with a truncated version of a double-precision value. However, the value is limited to 32 bit precision, as with all the other JavaScript operations that implicitly involve considering numbers to be integers (like array indexing and the bitwise operators).
edit — In an update quite a while later, another alternative to the ~~
trick is to bitwise-OR the value with zero:

A float
generally has about 7 digits of precision, regardless of the position of the decimal point. So if you want 5 digits of precision after the decimal, you'll need to limit the range of the numbers to less than somewhere around +/-100.
If you round 8.8333333333339 to 2 decimals, the correct answer is 8.83, not 8.84. The reason you got 8.83000000001 is because 8.83 is a number that cannot be correctly reprecented in binary, and it gives you the closest one. If you want to print it without all the zeros, do as VGE says:

In support of unwind, remember that Objective-C is a superset of C, rather than a completely new language.

Binary floating-point numbers have interesting precision characteristics, since the value is stored as a binary integer raised to a binary power. When dealing with sub-integer values (that is, values between 0 and 1), negative powers of two "round off" very differently than negative powers of ten.
For example, the number 0.1 can be represented by 1 x 10-1, but there is no combination of base-2 exponent and mantissa that can precisely represent 0.1 -- the closest you get is 0.10000000000000001.
So if you have an application where you are working with values like 0.1 or 0.01 a great deal, but where small (less than 0.000000000000001%) errors cannot be tolerated, then binary floating-point numbers are not for you.
Conversely, if powers of ten are not "special" to your application (powers of ten are important in currency calculations, but not in, say, most applications of physics), then you are actually better off using binary floating-point, since it's usually at least an order of magnitude faster, and it is much more memory efficient.
The article from the Python documentation on floating point issues and limitations does an excellent job of explaining this issue in an easy to understand form. Wikipedia also has a good article on floating point that explains the math behind the representation.
A "floating point number" is how computers usually represent numbers that are not integers -- basically, a number with a decimal point. In C++ you declare them with float
instead of int
. A floating point exception is an error that occurs when you try to do something impossible with a floating point number, such as divide by zero.
I would simply use,

is an ndarray
of the right dtype, there is no overhead, since np.asarray
does nothing in this case.input

The main difference between each of these is the precision.
float
is a 32-bit
number, double
is a 64-bit
number and decimal
is a 128-bit

Another approach that may be more readable is simple type conversion. I've added a replacement function to cover instances where people may enter European decimals:

This has disadvantages too however. If someone types in "1,000", this will be converted to 1. Also, it assumes that people will be inputting with whitespace between words. This is not the case with other languages, such as Chinese.

can produce unnecessary zeros at the end of the number.

First, it is just a presentation of the float
number you see in the debugger. The real value is approximately exact (as much as it's possible).
Note: Use always CultureInfo information when dealing with floating point numbers versus strings.

This is just an example; choose an appropriate culture for your case.
A float gives you approx. 6-7 decimal digits precision while a double gives you approx. 15-16. Also the range of numbers is larger for double.
A double needs 8 bytes of storage space while a float needs just 4 bytes.
Use BigDecimal
:
new BigDecimal(theInputString);
It retains all decimal digits. And you are sure of the exact representation since it uses decimal base, not binary base, to store the precision/scale/etc.
And it is not subject to precision loss like float
or double
are, unless you explicitly ask it to.

Perhaps your numbers aren't actually numbers, but letters masquerading as numbers?
In my case, the font I was using meant that "l" and "1" looked very similar. I had a string like 'l1919' which I thought was '11919' and that messed things up.
I prefer using the following code to generate a decimal number up to fist decimal point. you can copy paste the 3rd line to add more numbers after decimal point by appending that number in string "combined". You can set the minimum and maximum value by changing the 0 and 9 to your preferred value.

Double precision means the numbers takes twice the word-length to store. On a 32-bit processor, the words are all 32 bits, so doubles are 64 bits. What this means in terms of performance is that operations on double precision numbers take a little longer to execute. So you get a better range, but there is a small hit on performance. This hit is mitigated a little by hardware floating point units, but its still there.
The N64 used a MIPS R4300i-based NEC VR4300 which is a 64 bit processor, but the processor communicates with the rest of the system over a 32-bit wide bus. So, most developers used 32 bit numbers because they are faster, and most games at the time did not need the additional precision (so they used floats not doubles).
All three systems can do single and double precision floating operations, but they might not because of performance. (although pretty much everything after the n64 used a 32 bit bus so...)

converts by truncation, as has been mentioned by others. This can result in the answer being one different than expected. One way around this is to check if the result is 'close enough' to an integer and adjust accordingly, otherwise the usual conversion. This is assuming you don't get too much roundoff and calculation error, which is a separate issue. For example:

Casting is not a mathematical operation and doesn't behave as such. Try

A float has 23 bits of precision, and a double has 52.
What about trying the easiest and probably most effective approach? The method normalize() removes all the rightmost trailing zeros.

The only problem as @BobStein-VisiBone pointed out, is that numbers like 10, 100, 1000... will be displayed in exponential representation. This can be easily fixed using the following function instead:

In Rails 3.2.18, :decimal turns into :integer when using SQLServer, but it works fine in SQLite. Switching to :float solved this issue for us.

Up to and including Java 6 it was possible to do this using the Static Initialization Block as was pointed out in the question Printing message on Console without using main() method. For instance using the following code:

If you are having a small script that you need to run (I simply needed to copy a file), I found it much easier to call the commands on the PHP script by calling

On android a far easier way is to use this:

If you want to terminate the thread, then just returning is fine. You do NOT need to call Thread.currentThread().interrupt()
(it will not do anything bad though. It's just that you don't need to.) This is because interrupt()
is basically used to notify the owner of the thread (well, not 100% accurate, but sort of). Because you are the owner of the thread, and you decided to terminate the thread, there is no one to notify, so you don't need to call it.
By the way, why in the first case we need to use currentThread? Is Thread does not refer to the current thread?
Yes, it doesn't. I guess it can be confusing because e.g. Thread.sleep() affects the current thread, but Thread.sleep() is a static method.
If you are NOT the owner of the thread (e.g. if you have not extended Thread

You can subtract one list from the other using CollectionUtils.subtract, if the result is an empty collection, it means both lists are the same. Another approach is using CollectionUtils.isSubCollection or CollectionUtils.isProperSubCollection.

Using Neon - just happened to me too. You would have to delete the Eclipse version (not from disk) in your Project Explorer and import the projects as existing projects. The view should not dictate config
In Angular, the template should never dictate configuration, which is inherently what people desire when they want to pass arguments to controllers from a template file. This becomes a slippery slope. If config settings are hard-coded in templates (such as by a directive or controller argument attribute), you can no longer re-use that template for anything but that single use. Soon you'll want to re-use that template, but with different config and now in order to do so you'll either be pre-processing the templates to inject variables before it gets passed to angular or using massive directives to spit out giant blocks of HTML so you re-use all of the controller HTML except for the wrapper div and it's arguments. For small projects it's no big deal. For something big (what angular excels at), it gets ugly quick.
The Alternative: Modules
This type of configuration is what modules were designed to handle. In many angular tutorials people have a single module for their entire application, but really the system is designed and fully supports many small modules each which wrap small pieces of the total application. Ideally, controllers, modules etc would be declared in separate files and stitched together in specific re-usable chunks. When your application is designed this way, you get a lot of re-use in addition to easy controller arguments.
The example below has 2 modules, re-using the same controller, but each with their own config settings. That config settings are passed in via dependency injection using module.value
. This adheres to the angular way because we have the following: constructor dependency injection, reusable controller code, reusable controller templates (the controller div could easily be included with ng-include), easily unit-testable system without HTML, and lastly re-usable modules as the vehicle for stitching the pieces together.

While your angularjs is bootstrapping, the user might see your placed brackets in the html. This can be handled with ng-cloak
. But for me this is a workaround, that I don't need to use, if I use ng-bind
.
Performance:
The {{}}
is much slower.
This ng-bind
is a directive and will place a watcher on the passed variable.
So the ng-bind
will only apply, when the passed value does actually change.
The brackets on the other hand will be dirty checked and refreshed in every $digest
, even if it's not necessary.
I am currently building a big single page app (~500 bindings per view). Changing from {{}} to strict ng-bind
did save us about 20% in every scope.$digest
.

i've had weird things happen without it. As for making it automatic. You need to use the worksheet_change event within the sheet's macro in the VBA editor (not modules, double click the sheet1 to the far left of the editor.) Within that sheet, use the drop down menu just above the editor itself (there should be 2 listboxes). The listbox to the left will have the events you are looking for. After that just throw in the macro. It should look like the below code,

Method #1: Iterating over entries using a For-Each loop.

This method might look redundant, but it has its own advantages. First of all, it is the only way to iterate over a map in older versions of Java. The other important feature is that it is the only method that allows you to remove entries from the map during iteration by calling iterator.remove()
. If you try to do this during For-Each iteration you will get "unpredictable results" according to Javadoc.
From a performance point of view this method is equal to a For-Each iteration.
Method #4: Iterating over keys and searching for values (inefficient).

This might look like a cleaner alternative for method #1, but in practice it is pretty slow and inefficient as getting values by a key might be time-consuming (this method in different Map implementations is 20%-200% slower than method #1). If you have FindBugs installed, it will detect this and warn you about inefficient iteration. This method should be avoided.
Conclusion:
If you need only keys or values from the map, use method #2. If you are stuck with older version of Java (less than 5) or planning to remove entries during iteration, you have to use method #3. Otherwise use method #1.

You want to check if an object is NULL/empty. Being NULL and empty are not the same. Like Justin and Brian have already mentioned, in C++ NULL is an assignment you'd typically associate with pointers. You can overload operator= perhaps, but think it through real well if you actually want to do this. Couple of other things:

If you have templates in your angular (or whatever framework) application, and you return HTML templates from your backend through a HTTP request/response, you are mixing up templates between the frontend and the backend.
Why not just leave the templating stuff either in the frontend (i would suggest that), or in the backend (pretty intransparent imo)?
And if you keep templates in the frontend, why not just respond with JSON for requests to the backend. You do not even have to implement a RESTful structure, but keeping templates on one side makes your code more transparent.
This will pay back when someone else has to cope with your code (or even you yourself are re-entering your own code after a while)!
If you do it right, you will have small components with small templates, and best of all, if your code is imba, someone who doesn't know coding languages will be able to understand your templates and your logic! So additionally, keep your functions/methods as small you can. You will eventually find out that maintaining, refactoring, reviewing, and adding features will be much easier compared to large functions/methods/classes and mixing up templating and logic between the frontend and the backend - and keep as much of the logic in the backend if your frontend needs to be more flexible (e.g. writing an android frontend or switching to a different frontend framework).
Philosophy, man :)
p.s.: you do not have to implement 100% clean code, because it is very expensive - especially if you have to motivate team members ;) but: you should find a good balance between an approach to cleaner code and what you have (maybe it is already pretty clean)

Well, a very important point to consider is that the Integer parser throws NumberFormatException as stated in Javadoc.

High-Level Design (HLD) involves decomposing a system into modules, and representing the interfaces & invocation relationships among modules. An HLD is referred to as software architecture.
LLD, also known as a detailed design, is used to design internals of the individual modules identified during HLD i.e. data structures and algorithms of the modules are designed and documented.
Now, HLD and LLD are actually used in traditional Approach (Function-Oriented Software Design) whereas, in OOAD, the system is seen as a set of objects interacting with each other.
As per the above definitions, a high-level design document will usually include a high-level architecture diagram depicting the components, interfaces, and networks that need to be further specified or developed. The document may also depict or otherwise refer to work flows and/or data flows between component systems.
Class diagrams with all the methods and relations between classes come under LLD. Program specs are covered under LLD. LLD describes each and every module in an elaborate manner so that the programmer can directly code the program based on it. There will be at least 1 document for each module. The LLD will contain - a detailed functional logic of the module in pseudo code - database tables with all elements including their type and size - all interface details with complete API references(both requests and responses) - all dependency issues - error message listings - complete inputs and outputs for a module.

The problem is that once the page is served up, the content is going to be in the encoding described in the content-type meta tag. The content in "wrong" encoding is already garbled.
You're best to do this on the server before serving up the page. Or as I have been know to say: UTF-8 end-to-end or die.
To my knowledge, you can't mock constructors with mockito, only methods. But according to the wiki on the Mockito google code page there is a way to mock the constructor behavior by creating a method in your class which return a new instance of that class. then you can mock out that method. Below is an excerpt directly from the Mockito wiki:
Pattern 1 - using one-line methods for object creation
To use pattern 1 (testing a class called MyClass), you would replace a call like

and write a one-line method

It's important that you don't include any logic in the method; just the one line that creates the object. The reason for this is that the method itself is never going to be unit tested.
When you come to test the class, the object that you test will actually be a Mockito spy, with this method overridden, to return a mock. What you're testing is therefore not the class itself, but a very slightly modified version of it.
Your test class might contain members like

Now all that remains is to go to Eclipse and run your program. The Android AVD manager should show the VM as a device on the list.

Why not map the network drive but deselect "Reconnect at logon"? The drive will only connect when you try to access it. Note that some applications will fail if they point to it, but if you're accessing files directly through Windows Explorer this works great.
I've also experienced such issues as R.java
being missing, and also eclipse complaining there are errors in my code (displaying red X icon against class files) when there were no errors.
The only method I've found for solving this is to clean the project by selecting Project > Clean

According to the create table statement, the default charset of the table is already utf8mb4. It seems that you have a wrong connection charset.
In Java, set the datasource url like this: jdbc:mysql://127.0.0.1:3306/testdb?useUnicode=true&characterEncoding=utf-8.
"?useUnicode=true&characterEncoding=utf-8" is necessary for using utf8mb4.

Subclipse for Eclipse has an excellent graphical diff plugin if you are using SVN (subversion) source control.
You need the return so the true/false gets passed up to the form's submit event (which looks for this and prevents submission if it gets a false).
Lets look at some standard JS:

If you just call that within any other code (be it an onclick handler or in JS elsewhere) it will get back false, but you need to do something with that value.

testReturn()

In that example the return value is coming back, but nothing is happening with it. You're basically saying execute this function, and I don't care what it returns. In contrast if you do this:

var wasSuccessful = testReturn();
...
then you've done something with the return value.
The same applies to onclick handlers. If you just call the function without the return in the onsubmit, then you're saying "execute this, but don't prevent the event if it return false." It's a way of saying execute this code when the form is submitted, but don't let it stop the event.
Once you add the return, you're saying that what you're calling should determine if the event (submit) should continue.
This logic applies to many of the onXXXX events in HTML (onclick, onsubmit, onfocus, etc).

No way what is suggested here works - the error "bitmap xxx not defined" is ever present. And yes, I set the correct path to it.

Merge - HEAD branch will generate a new commit, preserving the ancestry of each commit history. History can become polluted if merge commits are made by multiple people who work on the same branch in parallel.
Rebase - Re-writes the changes of one branch onto another without creating a new commit. The code history is simplified, linear and readable but it doesn't work with pull requests, because you can't see what minor changes someone made.
I would use git merge

event. While doing manually filtering make sure you should maintain two copy of variable, one would be original collection copy & second would be filteredCollection

The best approach I've come up with is to use Sass imports on a selected basis to pull in your bootstrap (or any other) styles into emails as might be needed.
First, create a new scss parent file something like email.scss
for your email style. This could look like this:

Then in your email templates, only reference your compiled email.css file, which only contains the selected bootstrap styles referenced and nested properly in your email.scss.
For example, certain bootstrap styles will conflict with Zurb's responsive table style. To fix that, you can nest bootstrap's styles within a parent class or other selector in order to call bootstrap's table styles only when needed.
This way, you have the flexibility to pull in classes only when needed. You'll see that I use http://zurb.com/

I'll add that arrays are very low-level constructs in C++ and you should try to stay away from them as much as possible when "learning the ropes" -- even Bjarne Stroustrup recommends this (he's the designer of C++).
Vectors come very close to the same performance as arrays, but with a great many conveniences and safety features. You'll probably start using arrays when interfacing with API's that deal with raw arrays, or when building your own collections.

Your postgres server configuration seems correct
That should grant access from the client to the postgres server. So that leads me to believe the username / password is whats failing.
host all all 127.0.0.1/32 md5
host all all 192.168.0.1/32 trust
Test this by creating a specific user for that database
createuser -a -d -W -U postgres chaosuser
Then adjust your perl script to use the newly created user

Another instance of mongod is already running and allocating the MongoDB default port which is 27017.
Either kill the other process or use a different port.
And what's the answer from the server? It should reply a 204 and then really send the GET you are requesting.
In the OPTIONS the client is checking if the server allows CORS requests. If it gives you something different than a 204 then you should configure your server to send the correct Allow-Origin headers.
The way you are adding headers is the right way to do it.
In newer versions of Notepad++ (currently 5.9), this option is under:

Reading the Spark documentation I found an easier solution.
Since version 1.4 of spark there is a function drop(col)
which can be used in pyspark on a dataframe.
You can use it in two ways

You allocate a new Array (double the capacity, for instance), and move all elements to it.
Basically you need to check if the wordCount
is about to hit the wordList.size()
, when it does, create a new array with twice the length of the previous one, and copy all elements to it (create an auxiliary method to do this), and assign wordList
to your new array.
To copy the contents over, you could use System.arraycopy
, but I'm not sure that's allowed with your restrictions, so you can simply copy the elements one by one:

There are a number of advantages of using Ray over the multiprocessing module or using multithreading. In particular, the same code will run on a single machine as well as on a cluster of machines.
