XSLT equivalent for JSON

Yate (https://github.com/pasaran/yate) is specifically designed after XSLT, features JPath (a natural XPath equivalent for JS), compiles to JavaScript and has quite a history of production use. It’s practically undocumented, but reading through samples and tests should be enough.

How to resolve "Could not find schema information for the element/attribute <xxx>"?

I've created a new scheme based on my current app.config to get the messages to disappear. I just used the button in Visual Studio that says "Create Schema" and an xsd schema was created for me.

Save the schema in an apropriate place and see the "Properties" tab of the app.config file where there is a property named Schemas. If you click the change button there you can select to use both the original dotnetconfig schema and your own newly created one.

Error: Cannot Start Container: stat /bin/sh: no such file or directory"

check your image cmd using the command docker inspect image_name . The output might be like this:

"Cmd": [
    "/bin/bash",
    "-c",
    "#(nop) ",
    "CMD [\"/bin/bash\"]"
],

So use the command docker exec -it container_id /bin/bash. If your cmd output is different like this:

"Cmd": [
    "/bin/sh",
    "-c",
    "#(nop) ",
    "CMD [\"/bin/sh\"]"
],

Use /bin/sh instead of /bin/bash in the command above.

How to perform OR condition in django queryset?

Both options are already mentioned in the existing answers:

from django.db.models import Q
q1 = User.objects.filter(Q(income__gte=5000) | Q(income__isnull=True))

and

q2 = User.objects.filter(income__gte=5000) | User.objects.filter(income__isnull=True)

However, there seems to be some confusion regarding which one is to prefer.

The point is that they are identical on the SQL level, so feel free to pick whichever you like!

The Django ORM Cookbook talks in some detail about this, here is the relevant part:

queryset = User.objects.filter(
        first_name__startswith='R'
    ) | User.objects.filter(
    last_name__startswith='D'
)

leads to

In [5]: str(queryset.query)
Out[5]: 'SELECT "auth_user"."id", "auth_user"."password", "auth_user"."last_login",
"auth_user"."is_superuser", "auth_user"."username", "auth_user"."first_name",
"auth_user"."last_name", "auth_user"."email", "auth_user"."is_staff",
"auth_user"."is_active", "auth_user"."date_joined" FROM "auth_user"
WHERE ("auth_user"."first_name"::text LIKE R% OR "auth_user"."last_name"::text LIKE D%)'

and

qs = User.objects.filter(Q(first_name__startswith='R') | Q(last_name__startswith='D'))

leads to

In [9]: str(qs.query)
Out[9]: 'SELECT "auth_user"."id", "auth_user"."password", "auth_user"."last_login",
 "auth_user"."is_superuser", "auth_user"."username", "auth_user"."first_name",
  "auth_user"."last_name", "auth_user"."email", "auth_user"."is_staff",
  "auth_user"."is_active", "auth_user"."date_joined" FROM "auth_user"
  WHERE ("auth_user"."first_name"::text LIKE R% OR "auth_user"."last_name"::text LIKE D%)'

What is the location of mysql client ".my.cnf" in XAMPP for Windows?

Look in the MySQL config file C:\xampp\mysql\bin\my.ini.

At the top of that file are some comments:

# You can copy this file to
# C:/xampp/mysql/bin/my.cnf to set global options,
# mysql-data-dir/my.cnf to set server-specific options (in this
# installation this directory is C:/xampp/mysql/data) or
# ~/.my.cnf to set user-specific options.

There it tells you where to find your .my.cnf file.

Batch script to install MSI

Here is the batch file which should work for you:

@echo off
Title HOST: Installing updates on %computername%
echo %computername%
set Server=\\SERVERNAME or PATH\msifolder

:select
cls
echo Select one of the following MSI install folders for installation task.
echo.
dir "%Server%" /AD /ON /B
echo.
set /P "MSI=Please enter the MSI folder to install: "
set "Package=%Server%\%MSI%\%MSI%.msi"

if not exist "%Package%" (
   echo.
   echo The entered folder/MSI file does not exist ^(typing mistake^).
   echo.
   setlocal EnableDelayedExpansion
   set /P "Retry=Try again [Y/N]: "
   if /I "!Retry!"=="Y" endlocal & goto select
   endlocal
   goto :EOF
)

echo.
echo Selected installation: %MSI%
echo.
echo.

:verify
echo Is This Correct?
echo.
echo.
echo    0: ABORT INSTALL
echo    1: YES
echo    2: NO, RE-SELECT
echo.
set /p "choice=Select YES, NO or ABORT? [0,1,2]: "
if [%choice%]==[0] goto :EOF
if [%choice%]==[1] goto yes
goto select

:yes
echo.
echo Running %MSI% installation ...
start "Install MSI" /wait "%SystemRoot%\system32\msiexec.exe" /i /quiet "%Package%"

The characters listed on last page output on entering in a command prompt window either help cmd or cmd /? have special meanings in batch files. Here are used parentheses and square brackets also in strings where those characters should be interpreted literally. Therefore it is necessary to either enclose the string in double quotes or escape those characters with character ^ as it can be seen in code above, otherwise command line interpreter exits batch execution because of a syntax error.

And it is not possible to call a file with extension MSI. A *.msi file is not an executable. On double clicking on a MSI file, Windows looks in registry which application is associated with this file extension for opening action. And the application to use is msiexec with the command line option /i to install the application inside MSI package.

Run msiexec.exe /? to get in a GUI window the available options or look at Msiexec (command-line options).

I have added already /quiet additionally to required option /i for a silent installation.

In batch code above command start is used with option /wait to start Windows application msiexec.exe and hold execution of batch file until installation finished (or aborted).

Print JSON parsed object?

If you want a pretty, multiline JSON with indentation then you can use JSON.stringify with its 3rd argument:

JSON.stringify(value[, replacer[, space]])

For example:

var obj = {a:1,b:2,c:{d:3, e:4}};

JSON.stringify(obj, null, "    ");

or

JSON.stringify(obj, null, 4);

will give you following result:

"{
    "a": 1,
    "b": 2,
    "c": {
        "d": 3,
        "e": 4
    }
}"

In a browser console.log(obj) does even better job, but in a shell console (node.js) it doesn't.

Is there a difference between PhoneGap and Cordova commands?

Here are differences that I have discovered:

I am comparing the phonegap 3.3.0-0.18.0 CLI to the functionality described in the cordova 3.3.0 documentation for that CLI.

  1. "ls" is an option for "cordova plugin" but not for "phonegap plugin". You must use "list" instead. e.g.: "phonegap plugin list"

  2. "serve" is not documented in "phonegap -help" but it does exist and it does work. It will not find and load phonegap.js so the pages never fully load but it still does provide some value. I'm not sure if this is different than the behavior cordova.

  3. "phonegap platform add " does not work in phonegap. You must do a "phonegap build " to add support for a platform.

Note that you may also experience some confusing error messages in phonegap where the suggested solution refers to using the cordova command.

append to url and refresh page

Most of the answers here suggest that one should append the parameter(s) to the URL, something like the following snippet or a similar variation:

location.href = location.href + "&parameter=" + value;

This will work quite well for the majority of the cases.

However

That's not the correct way to append a parameter to a URL in my opinion.

Because the suggested approach does not test if the parameter is already set in the URL, if not careful one may end up with a very long URL with the same parameter repeated multiple times. ie:

https://stackoverflow.com/?&param=1&param=1&param=1&param=1&param=1&param=1&param=1&param=1&param=1

at this point is where problems begin. The suggested approach could and will create a very long URL after multiple page refreshes, thus making the URL invalid. Follow this link for more information about long URL What is the maximum length of a URL in different browsers?

This is my suggested approach:

function URL_add_parameter(url, param, value){
    var hash       = {};
    var parser     = document.createElement('a');

    parser.href    = url;

    var parameters = parser.search.split(/\?|&/);

    for(var i=0; i < parameters.length; i++) {
        if(!parameters[i])
            continue;

        var ary      = parameters[i].split('=');
        hash[ary[0]] = ary[1];
    }

    hash[param] = value;

    var list = [];
    Object.keys(hash).forEach(function (key) {
        list.push(key + '=' + hash[key]);
    });

    parser.search = '?' + list.join('&');
    return parser.href;
}

With this function one just will have to do the following:

location.href = URL_add_parameter(location.href, 'param', 'value');

Convert a numpy.ndarray to string(or bytes) and convert it back to numpy.ndarray

This is a fast way to encode the array, the array shape and the array dtype:

def numpy_to_bytes(arr: np.array) -> str:
    arr_dtype = bytearray(str(arr.dtype), 'utf-8')
    arr_shape = bytearray(','.join([str(a) for a in arr.shape]), 'utf-8')
    sep = bytearray('|', 'utf-8')
    arr_bytes = arr.ravel().tobytes()
    to_return = arr_dtype + sep + arr_shape + sep + arr_bytes
    return to_return

def bytes_to_numpy(serialized_arr: str) -> np.array:
    sep = '|'.encode('utf-8')
    i_0 = serialized_arr.find(sep)
    i_1 = serialized_arr.find(sep, i_0 + 1)
    arr_dtype = serialized_arr[:i_0].decode('utf-8')
    arr_shape = tuple([int(a) for a in serialized_arr[i_0 + 1:i_1].decode('utf-8').split(',')])
    arr_str = serialized_arr[i_1 + 1:]
    arr = np.frombuffer(arr_str, dtype = arr_dtype).reshape(arr_shape)
    return arr

To use the functions:

a = np.ones((23, 23), dtype = 'int')
a_b = numpy_to_bytes(a)
a1 = bytes_to_numpy(a_b)
np.array_equal(a, a1) and a.shape == a1.shape and a.dtype == a1.dtype

Insert, on duplicate update in PostgreSQL?

I was looking for the same thing when I came here, but the lack of a generic "upsert" function botherd me a bit so I thought you could just pass the update and insert sql as arguments on that function form the manual

that would look like this:

CREATE FUNCTION upsert (sql_update TEXT, sql_insert TEXT)
    RETURNS VOID
    LANGUAGE plpgsql
AS $$
BEGIN
    LOOP
        -- first try to update
        EXECUTE sql_update;
        -- check if the row is found
        IF FOUND THEN
            RETURN;
        END IF;
        -- not found so insert the row
        BEGIN
            EXECUTE sql_insert;
            RETURN;
            EXCEPTION WHEN unique_violation THEN
                -- do nothing and loop
        END;
    END LOOP;
END;
$$;

and perhaps to do what you initially wanted to do, batch "upsert", you could use Tcl to split the sql_update and loop the individual updates, the preformance hit will be very small see http://archives.postgresql.org/pgsql-performance/2006-04/msg00557.php

the highest cost is executing the query from your code, on the database side the execution cost is much smaller

Use Font Awesome Icon in Placeholder

There is some slight delay and jank as the font changes in the answer provided by Jason. Using the "change" event instead of "keyup" resolves this issue.

$('#iconified').on('change', function() {
    var input = $(this);
    if(input.val().length === 0) {
        input.addClass('empty');
    } else {
        input.removeClass('empty');
    }
});

Why I am getting Cannot pass parameter 2 by reference error when I am using bindParam with a constant value?

If you want to insert NULL only when the value is empty or '', but insert the value when it is available.

A) Receives the form data using POST method, and calls function insert with those values.

insert( $_POST['productId'], // Will be set to NULL if empty
        $_POST['productName'] ); // Will be to NULL if empty

B) Evaluates if a field was not filled up by the user, and inserts NULL if that's the case.

public function insert( $productId, $productName )
{
    $sql = "INSERT INTO products (  productId, productName )
                VALUES ( :productId, :productName )";

    //IMPORTANT: Repace $db with your PDO instance
    $query = $db->prepare($sql);

    //Works with INT, FLOAT, ETC.
    $query->bindValue(':productId',  !empty($productId)   ? $productId   : NULL, PDO::PARAM_INT);

    //Works with strings.
    $query->bindValue(':productName',!empty($productName) ? $productName : NULL, PDO::PARAM_STR);

    $query->execute();
}

For instance, if the user doesn't input anything on the productName field of the form, then $productName will be SET but EMPTY. So, you need check if it is empty(), and if it is, then insert NULL.

Python function global variables?

You must use the global declaration when you wish to alter the value assigned to a global variable.

You do not need it to read from a global variable. Note that calling a method on an object (even if it alters the data within that object) does not alter the value of the variable holding that object (absent reflective magic).

What does '&' do in a C++ declaration?

#include<iostream>
using namespace std;
int add(int &number);

int main ()
{
            int number;
            int result;
            number=5;
            cout << "The value of the variable number before calling the function : " << number << endl;
            result=add(&number);
            cout << "The value of the variable number after the function is returned : " << number << endl;
            cout << "The value of result : " << result << endl;
            return(0);
}

int add(int &p)
{
            *p=*p+100;
            return(*p);
}

This is invalid code on several counts. Running it through g++ gives:

crap.cpp: In function ‘int main()’:
crap.cpp:11: error: invalid initialization of non-const reference of type ‘int&’ from a temporary of type ‘int*’
crap.cpp:3: error: in passing argument 1 of ‘int add(int&)’
crap.cpp: In function ‘int add(int&)’:
crap.cpp:19: error: invalid type argument of ‘unary *’
crap.cpp:19: error: invalid type argument of ‘unary *’
crap.cpp:20: error: invalid type argument of ‘unary *’

A valid version of the code reads:

#include<iostream>
using namespace std;
int add(int &number);

int main ()
{
            int number;
            int result;
            number=5;
            cout << "The value of the variable number before calling the function : " << number << endl;
            result=add(number);
            cout << "The value of the variable number after the function is returned : " << number << endl;
            cout << "The value of result : " << result << endl;
            return(0);
}

int add(int &p)
{
            p=p+100;
            return p;
}

What is happening here is that you are passing a variable "as is" to your function. This is roughly equivalent to:

int add(int *p)
{
      *p=*p+100;
      return *p;
}

However, passing a reference to a function ensures that you cannot do things like pointer arithmetic with the reference. For example:

int add(int &p)
{
            *p=*p+100;
            return p;
}

is invalid.

If you must use a pointer to a reference, that has to be done explicitly:

int add(int &p)
{
                    int* i = &p;
            i=i+100L;
            return *i;
}

Which on a test run gives (as expected) junk output:

The value of the variable number before calling the function : 5
The value of the variable number after the function is returned : 5
The value of result : 1399090792

Make an HTTP request with android

I made this for a webservice to requerst on URL, using a Gson lib:

Client:

public EstabelecimentoList getListaEstabelecimentoPorPromocao(){

        EstabelecimentoList estabelecimentoList  = new EstabelecimentoList();
        try{
            URL url = new URL("http://" +  Conexao.getSERVIDOR()+ "/cardapio.online/rest/recursos/busca_estabelecimento_promocao_android");
            HttpURLConnection con = (HttpURLConnection) url.openConnection();

            if (con.getResponseCode() != 200) {
                    throw new RuntimeException("HTTP error code : "+ con.getResponseCode());
            }

            BufferedReader br = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader((con.getInputStream())));
            estabelecimentoList = new Gson().fromJson(br, EstabelecimentoList.class);
            con.disconnect();

        } catch (IOException e) {
            e.printStackTrace();
        }
        return estabelecimentoList;
}

Plot multiple lines in one graph

The answer by @Federico Giorgi was a very good answer. It helpt me. Therefore, I did the following, in order to produce multiple lines in the same plot from the data of a single dataset, I used a for loop. Legend can be added as well.

plot(tab[,1],type="b",col="red",lty=1,lwd=2, ylim=c( min( tab, na.rm=T ),max( tab, na.rm=T ) )  )
for( i in 1:length( tab )) { [enter image description here][1]
lines(tab[,i],type="b",col=i,lty=1,lwd=2)
  }
axis(1,at=c(1:nrow(tab)),labels=rownames(tab))

A fatal error occurred while creating a TLS client credential. The internal error state is 10013

After making no changes to a production server we began receiving this error. After trying several different things and thinking that perhaps there were DNS issues, restarting IIS fixed the issue (restarting only the site did not fix the issue). It likely won't work for everyone but if we tried that first it would have saved a lot of time.

PHP remove special character from string

Good try! I think you just have to make a few small changes:

  • Escape the square brackets ([ and ]) inside the character class (which are also indicated by [ and ])
  • Escape the escape character (\) itself
  • Plus there's a quirk where - is special: if it's between two characters, it means a range, but if it's at the beginning or the end, it means the literal - character.

You'll want something like this:

preg_replace('/[^a-zA-Z0-9_%\[().\]\\/-]/s', '', $String);

See http://docs.activestate.com/activeperl/5.10/lib/pods/perlrecharclass.html#special_characters_inside_a_bracketed_character_class if you want to read up further on this topic.

What is HEAD in Git?

To quote other people:

A head is simply a reference to a commit object. Each head has a name (branch name or tag name, etc). By default, there is a head in every repository called master. A repository can contain any number of heads. At any given time, one head is selected as the “current head.” This head is aliased to HEAD, always in capitals".

Note this difference: a “head” (lowercase) refers to any one of the named heads in the repository; “HEAD” (uppercase) refers exclusively to the currently active head. This distinction is used frequently in Git documentation.

Another good source that quickly covers the inner workings of git (and therefor a better understanding of heads/HEAD) can be found here. References (ref:) or heads or branches can be considered like post-it notes stuck onto commits in the commit history. Usually they point to the tip of series of commits, but they can be moved around with git checkout or git reset etc.

How to recover Git objects damaged by hard disk failure?

Here are the steps I followed to recover from a corrupt blob object.

1) Identify corrupt blob

git fsck --full
  error: inflate: data stream error (incorrect data check)
  error: sha1 mismatch 241091723c324aed77b2d35f97a05e856b319efd
  error: 241091723c324aed77b2d35f97a05e856b319efd: object corrupt or missing
  ...

Corrupt blob is 241091723c324aed77b2d35f97a05e856b319efd

2) Move corrupt blob to a safe place (just in case)

mv .git/objects/24/1091723c324aed77b2d35f97a05e856b319efd ../24/

3) Get parent of corrupt blob

git fsck --full
  Checking object directories: 100% (256/256), done.
  Checking objects: 100% (70321/70321), done.
  broken link from    tree 0716831e1a6c8d3e6b2b541d21c4748cc0ce7180
              to    blob 241091723c324aed77b2d35f97a05e856b319efd

Parent hash is 0716831e1a6c8d3e6b2b541d21c4748cc0ce7180.

4) Get file name corresponding to corrupt blob

git ls-tree 0716831e1a6c8d3e6b2b541d21c4748cc0ce7180
  ...

Create ul and li elements in javascript.

Try out below code snippet:

 var list = [];
 var text;

function update() {
    console.log(list);

    for (var i = 0; i < list.length; i++) {
       console.log( i );
       var letters;
       var ul = document.getElementById("list");
       var li = document.createElement("li");

       li.appendChild(document.createTextNode(list[i]));
       ul.appendChild(li);

       letters += "<li>"  + list[i] + "</li>";
    }

 document.getElementById("list").innerHTML = letters;

}

function myFunction() {
    text = prompt("enter TODO");
    list.push(text);

Linux/Unix command to determine if process is running?

On most Linux distributions, you can use pidof(8).

It will print the process ids of all running instances of specified processes, or nothing if there are no instances running.

For instance, on my system (I have four instances of bashand one instance of remmina running):

$ pidof bash remmina
6148 6147 6144 5603 21598

On other Unices, pgrep or a combination of ps and grep will achieve the same thing, as others have rightfully pointed out.

Phone number formatting an EditText in Android

You can use spawns to format phone numbers in Android. This solution is better than the others because it does not change input text. Formatting remains purely visual.

implementation 'com.googlecode.libphonenumber:libphonenumber:7.0.4'

Formatter class:

open class PhoneNumberFormatter : TransformationMethod {
private val mFormatter: AsYouTypeFormatter = PhoneNumberUtil.getInstance().getAsYouTypeFormatter(Locale.getDefault().country)

How do I rename a local Git branch?

Another option is not to use the command line at all. Git GUI clients such as SourceTree take away much of the syntactical learning curve / pain that causes questions such as this one to be amongst the most viewed on Stack Overflow.

In SourceTree, right click on any local branch in the "Branches" pane on the left and select "Rename ...".

Is ConfigurationManager.AppSettings available in .NET Core 2.0?

I know it's a bit too late, but maybe someone is looking for easy way to access appsettings in .net core app. in API constructor add the following:

public class TargetClassController : ControllerBase
{
    private readonly IConfiguration _config;

    public TargetClassController(IConfiguration config)
    {
        _config = config;
    }

    [HttpGet("{id:int}")]
    public async Task<ActionResult<DTOResponse>> Get(int id)
    {
        var config = _config["YourKeySection:key"];
    }
}

How can I get a precise time, for example in milliseconds in Objective-C?

Also, here is how to calculate a 64-bit NSNumber initialized with the Unix epoch in milliseconds, in case that is how you want to store it in CoreData. I needed this for my app which interacts with a system that stores dates this way.

  + (NSNumber*) longUnixEpoch {
      return [NSNumber numberWithLongLong:[[NSDate date] timeIntervalSince1970] * 1000];
  }

COLLATION 'utf8_general_ci' is not valid for CHARACTER SET 'latin1'

The same error is produced in MariaDB (10.1.36-MariaDB) by using the combination of parenthesis and the COLLATE statement. My SQL was different, the error was the same, I had:

WHERE (field = 'STRING') COLLATE utf8_bin;

Omitting the parenthesis was solving it for me.

SELECT *

> exec('ifconfig')
string(0) ""

Note that use of the backtick operator is identical to shell_exec().

Update: I really should explain that last one. Looking at this answer years later even I don't know why that came out blank! Daniel explains it above -- it's because exec only returns the last line, and ifconfig's last line happens to be blank.

SQL Server: Examples of PIVOTing String data

I had a situation where I was parsing strings and the first two positions of the string in question would be the field names of a healthcare claims coding standard. So I would strip out the strings and get values for F4, UR and UQ or whatnot. This was great on one record or a few records for one user. But when I wanted to see hundreds of records and the values for all usersz it needed to be a PIVOT. This was wonderful especially for exporting lots of records to excel. The specific reporting request I had received was "every time someone submitted a claim for Benadryl, what value did they submit in fields F4, UR, and UQ. I had an OUTER APPLY that created the ColTitle and the value fields below

PIVOT(
  min(value)
  FOR ColTitle in([F4], [UR], [UQ])
 )

$(document).click() not working correctly on iPhone. jquery

try this, applies only to iPhone and iPod so you're not making everything turn blue on chrome or firefox mobile;

/iP/i.test(navigator.userAgent) && $('*').css('cursor', 'pointer');

basically, on iOS, things aren't "clickable" by default -- they're "touchable" (pfffff) so you make them "clickable" by giving them a pointer cursor. makes total sense, right??

How to remove \xa0 from string in Python?

Warning: push.default is unset; its implicit value is changing in Git 2.0

I realize this is an old post but as I just ran into the same issue and had trouble finding the answer I thought I'd add a bit.

So @hammar's answer is correct. Using push.default simple is, in a way, like configuring tracking on your branches so you don't need to specify remotes and branches when pushing and pulling. The matching option will push all branches to their corresponding counterparts on the default remote (which is the first one that was set up unless you've configured your repo otherwise).

One thing I hope others find useful in the future is that I was running Git 1.8 on OS X Mountain Lion and never saw this error. Upgrading to Mavericks is what suddenly made it show up (running git --version will show git version 1.8.3.4 (Apple Git-47) which I'd never seen until the update to the OS.

How to get the position of a character in Python?

There are two string methods for this, find() and index(). The difference between the two is what happens when the search string isn't found. find() returns -1 and index() raises ValueError.

Using find()

>>> myString = 'Position of a character'
>>> myString.find('s')
2
>>> myString.find('x')
-1

Using index()

>>> myString = 'Position of a character'
>>> myString.index('s')
2
>>> myString.index('x')
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "<stdin>", line 1, in <module>
ValueError: substring not found

From the Python manual

string.find(s, sub[, start[, end]])
Return the lowest index in s where the substring sub is found such that sub is wholly contained in s[start:end]. Return -1 on failure. Defaults for start and end and interpretation of negative values is the same as for slices.

And:

string.index(s, sub[, start[, end]])
Like find() but raise ValueError when the substring is not found.

Two arrays in foreach loop

array_map seems good for this too

$codes = array('tn','us','fr');
$names = array('Tunisia','United States','France');

array_map(function ($code, $name) {
    echo '<option value="' . $code . '">' . $name . '</option>';
}, $codes, $names);

Other benefits are:

  • If one array is shorter than the other, the callback receive null values to fill in the gap.

  • You can use more than 2 arrays to iterate through.

Undefined Symbols for architecture x86_64: Compiling problems

There's no mystery here, the linker is telling you that you haven't defined the missing symbols, and you haven't.

Similarity::Similarity() or Similarity::~Similarity() are just missing and you have defined the others incorrectly,

void Similarity::readData(Scanner& inStream){
}

not

void readData(Scanner& inStream){
}

etc. etc.

The second one is a function called readData, only the first is the readData method of the Similarity class.

To be clear about this, in Similarity.h

void readData(Scanner& inStream);

but in Similarity.cpp

void Similarity::readData(Scanner& inStream){
}

java.sql.SQLException Parameter index out of range (1 > number of parameters, which is 0)

You will get this error when you call any of the setXxx() methods on PreparedStatement, while the SQL query string does not have any placeholders ? for this.

For example this is wrong:

String sql = "INSERT INTO tablename (col1, col2, col3) VALUES (val1, val2, val3)";
// ...

preparedStatement = connection.prepareStatement(sql);
preparedStatement.setString(1, val1); // Fail.
preparedStatement.setString(2, val2);
preparedStatement.setString(3, val3);

You need to fix the SQL query string accordingly to specify the placeholders.

String sql = "INSERT INTO tablename (col1, col2, col3) VALUES (?, ?, ?)";
// ...

preparedStatement = connection.prepareStatement(sql);
preparedStatement.setString(1, val1);
preparedStatement.setString(2, val2);
preparedStatement.setString(3, val3);

Note the parameter index starts with 1 and that you do not need to quote those placeholders like so:

String sql = "INSERT INTO tablename (col1, col2, col3) VALUES ('?', '?', '?')";

Otherwise you will still get the same exception, because the SQL parser will then interpret them as the actual string values and thus can't find the placeholders anymore.

How to add color to Github's README.md file

As an alternative to rendering a raster image, you can embed a SVG file:

<a><img src="http://dump.thecybershadow.net/6c736bfd11ded8cdc5e2bda009a6694a/colortext.svg"/></a>

You can then add color text to the SVG file as usual:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<svg version="1.1"
     xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg"
     xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink"
     width="100" height="50"
>
  <text font-size="16" x="10" y="20">
    <tspan fill="red">Hello</tspan>,
    <tspan fill="green">world</tspan>!
  </text>
</svg>

Unfortunately, even though you can select and copy text when you open the .svg file, the text is not selectable when the SVG image is embedded.

Permissions for /var/www/html

I have just been in a similar position with regards to setting the 777 permissions on the apache website hosting directory. After a little bit of tinkering it seems that changing the group ownership of the folder to the "apache" group allowed access to the folder based on the user group.

1) make sure that the group ownership of the folder is set to the group apache used / generates for use. (check /etc/groups, mine was www-data on Ubuntu)

2) set the folder permissions to 774 to stop "everyone" from having any change access, but allowing the owner and group permissions required.

3) add your user account to the group that has permission on the folder (mine was www-data).

Convert UTF-8 to base64 string

It's a little difficult to tell what you're trying to achieve, but assuming you're trying to get a Base64 string that when decoded is abcdef==, the following should work:

byte[] bytes = Encoding.UTF8.GetBytes("abcdef==");
string base64 = Convert.ToBase64String(bytes);
Console.WriteLine(base64);

This will output: YWJjZGVmPT0= which is abcdef== encoded in Base64.

Edit:

To decode a Base64 string, simply use Convert.FromBase64String(). E.g.

string base64 = "YWJjZGVmPT0=";
byte[] bytes = Convert.FromBase64String(base64);

At this point, bytes will be a byte[] (not a string). If we know that the byte array represents a string in UTF8, then it can be converted back to the string form using:

string str = Encoding.UTF8.GetString(bytes);
Console.WriteLine(str);

This will output the original input string, abcdef== in this case.

How to index an element of a list object in R

Indexing a list is done using double bracket, i.e. hypo_list[[1]] (e.g. have a look here: http://www.r-tutor.com/r-introduction/list). BTW: read.table does not return a table but a dataframe (see value section in ?read.table). So you will have a list of dataframes, rather than a list of table objects. The principal mechanism is identical for tables and dataframes though.

Note: In R, the index for the first entry is a 1 (not 0 like in some other languages).

Dataframes

l <- list(anscombe, iris)   # put dfs in list
l[[1]]             # returns anscombe dataframe

anscombe[1:2, 2] # access first two rows and second column of dataset
[1] 10  8

l[[1]][1:2, 2] # the same but selecting the dataframe from the list first
[1] 10  8

Table objects

tbl1 <- table(sample(1:5, 50, rep=T))
tbl2 <- table(sample(1:5, 50, rep=T))
l <- list(tbl1, tbl2)  # put tables in a list

tbl1[1:2] # access first two elements of table 1

Now with the list

l[[1]] # access first table from the list

1  2  3  4  5
9 11 12  9  9

l[[1]][1:2] # access first two elements in first table

1  2
9 11

How can I make a div stick to the top of the screen once it's been scrolled to?

My solution is a little verbose, but it handles variable positioning from the left edge for centered layouts.

// Ensurs that a element (usually a div) stays on the screen
// aElementToStick = The jQuery selector for the element to keep visible
global.makeSticky = function (aElementToStick) {
    var $elementToStick = $(aElementToStick);
    var top = $elementToStick.offset().top;
    var origPosition = $elementToStick.css('position');

    function positionFloater(a$Win) {
        // Set the original position to allow the browser to adjust the horizontal position
        $elementToStick.css('position', origPosition);

        // Test how far down the page is scrolled
        var scrollTop = a$Win.scrollTop();
        // If the page is scrolled passed the top of the element make it stick to the top of the screen
        if (top < scrollTop) {
            // Get the horizontal position
            var left = $elementToStick.offset().left;
            // Set the positioning as fixed to hold it's position
            $elementToStick.css('position', 'fixed');
            // Reuse the horizontal positioning
            $elementToStick.css('left', left);
            // Hold the element at the top of the screen
            $elementToStick.css('top', 0);
        }
    }

    // Perform initial positioning
    positionFloater($(window));

    // Reposition when the window resizes
    $(window).resize(function (e) {
        positionFloater($(this));
    });

    // Reposition when the window scrolls
    $(window).scroll(function (e) {
        positionFloater($(this));
    });
};

read.csv warning 'EOF within quoted string' prevents complete reading of file

I had the similar problem: EOF -warning and only part of data was loading with read.csv(). I tried the quotes="", but it only removed the EOF -warning.

But looking at the first row that was not loading, I found that there was a special character, an arrow ? (hexadecimal value 0x1A) in one of the cells. After deleting the arrow I got the data to load normally.

Customize Bootstrap checkboxes

In fact both screenshots you linked show what checkboxes look like on Mac OS in Chrome, the grey one is shown at non-100% zoom levels.

Getting a 'source: not found' error when using source in a bash script

In the POSIX standard, which /bin/sh is supposed to respect, the command is . (a single dot), not source. The source command is a csh-ism that has been pulled into bash.

Try

Or if you must have non-POSIX bash-isms in your code, use #!/bin/bash.

Create a tag in a GitHub repository

In case you want to tag a specific commit like i do

Here's a command to do that :-

Example:

git tag -a v1.0 7cceb02 -m "Your message here"

Where 7cceb02 is the beginning part of the commit id.

You can then push the tag using git push origin v1.0.

You can do git log to show all the commit id's in your current branch.

MySQL timezone change?

The easiest way to do this, as noted by Umar is, for example

mysql> SET GLOBAL time_zone = 'America/New_York';

Using the named timezone is important for timezone that has a daylights saving adjustment. However, for some linux builds you may get the following response:

#1298 - Unknown or incorrect time zone

If you're seeing this, you may need to run a tzinfo_to_sql translation... it's easy to do, but not obvious. From the linux command line type in:

mysql_tzinfo_to_sql /usr/share/zoneinfo/|mysql -u root mysql -p

Provide your root password (MySQL root, not Linux root) and it will load any definitions in your zoneinfo into mysql. You can then go back and run your

mysql> SET GLOBAL time_zone = timezone;

How do I activate a Spring Boot profile when running from IntelliJ?

So for resuming...

If you have the IntelliJ Ultimate the correct answer is the one provided by Daniel Bubenheim

But if you don't, create in Run->Edit Configurations and in Configuration tab add the next Environment variable:

SPRING_PROFILES_ACTIVE=profilename

And to execute the jar do:

java -jar -Dspring.profiles.active=profilename XXX.jar

Custom circle button

here is how you can perform simply, make a drawable resource file in drawable.xml. Say round_button.xml and then paste the following code.

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<layer-list xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android">

    <item>
       <shape
           android:shape="oval">

           <solid
               android:color="@color/button_start_gradient_color"/>
       </shape>
    </item>
    <item
        android:drawable="@drawable/microphone"/>
</layer-list>

Note:- use your own color and drawable resource as i have used @drawable/microphone

How to implement "confirmation" dialog in Jquery UI dialog?

I know this is an old question but here is my solution using HTML5 data attributes in MVC4:

<div id="dialog" title="Confirmation Required" data-url="@Url.Action("UndoAllPendingChanges", "Home")">
  Are you sure about this?
</div>

JS code:

$("#dialog").dialog({
    modal: true,
    autoOpen: false,
    buttons: {
        "Confirm": function () {
            window.location.href = $(this).data('url');
        },
        "Cancel": function () {
            $(this).dialog("close");
        }
    }
});

$("#TheIdOfMyButton").click(function (e) {
    e.preventDefault();
    $("#dialog").dialog("open");
});

Check if value exists in Postgres array

When looking for the existence of a element in an array, proper casting is required to pass the SQL parser of postgres. Here is one example query using array contains operator in the join clause:

For simplicity I only list the relevant part:

table1 other_name text[]; -- is an array of text

The join part of SQL shown

from table1 t1 join table2 t2 on t1.other_name::text[] @> ARRAY[t2.panel::text]

The following also works

on t2.panel = ANY(t1.other_name)

I am just guessing that the extra casting is required because the parse does not have to fetch the table definition to figure the exact type of the column. Others please comment on this.

Nested routes with react router v4 / v5

React Router v6

allows to use both nested routes (like in v3) and separate, splitted routes (v4, v5).

Nested Routes

Keep all routes in one place for small/medium size apps:

<Routes>
  <Route path="/" element={<Home />} >
    <Route path="user" element={<User />} />
    <Route path="dash" element={<Dashboard />} />
  </Route>
</Routes>

const App = () => {
  return (
    <BrowserRouter>
      <Routes>
        // /js is start path of stack snippet
        <Route path="/js" element={<Home />} >
          <Route path="user" element={<User />} />
          <Route path="dash" element={<Dashboard />} />
        </Route>
      </Routes>
    </BrowserRouter>
  );
}

const Home = () => {
  const location = useLocation()
  return (
    <div>
      <p>URL path: {location.pathname}</p>
      <Outlet />
      <p>
        <Link to="user" style={{paddingRight: "10px"}}>user</Link>
        <Link to="dash">dashboard</Link>
      </p>
    </div>
  )
}

const User = () => <div>User profile</div>
const Dashboard = () => <div>Dashboard</div>

ReactDOM.render(<App />, document.getElementById("root"));

Alternative: Define your routes as plain JavaScript objects via useRoutes.

Separate Routes

You can use separates routes to meet requirements of larger apps like code splitting:

// inside App.jsx:
<Routes>
  <Route path="/*" element={<Home />} />
</Routes>

// inside Home.jsx:
<Routes>
  <Route path="user" element={<User />} />
  <Route path="dash" element={<Dashboard />} />
</Routes>

_x000D_
const App = () => {
  return (
    <BrowserRouter>
      <Routes>
        // /js is start path of stack snippet
        <Route path="/js/*" element={<Home />} />
      </Routes>
    </BrowserRouter>
  );
}

const Home = () => {
  const location = useLocation()
  return (
    <div>
      <p>URL path: {location.pathname}</p>
      <Routes>
        <Route path="user" element={<User />} />
        <Route path="dash" element={<Dashboard />} />
      </Routes>
      <p>
        <Link to="user" style={{paddingRight: "5px"}}>user</Link>
        <Link to="dash">dashboard</Link>
      </p>
    </div>
  )
}

const User = () => <div>User profile</div>
const Dashboard = () => <div>Dashboard</div>

ReactDOM.render(<App />, document.getElementById("root"));

<div id="root"></div>
    <script src="https://unpkg.com/[email protected]/umd/react.production.min.js"></script>

Splitting string into multiple rows in Oracle

Without using connect by or regexp:

    with mytable as (
      select 108 name, 'test' project, 'Err1,Err2,Err3' error from dual
      union all
      select 109, 'test2', 'Err1' from dual
    )
    ,x as (
      select name
      ,project
      ,','||error||',' error
      from mytable
    )
    ,iter as (SELECT rownum AS pos
        FROM all_objects
    )
    select x.name,x.project
    ,SUBSTR(x.error
      ,INSTR(x.error, ',', 1, iter.pos) + 1
      ,INSTR(x.error, ',', 1, iter.pos + 1)-INSTR(x.error, ',', 1, iter.pos)-1
    ) error
    from x, iter
    where iter.pos < = (LENGTH(x.error) - LENGTH(REPLACE(x.error, ','))) - 1;

Rendering HTML in a WebView with custom CSS

I assume that your style-sheet "style.css" is already located in the assets-folder

  1. load the web-page with jsoup:

    doc = Jsoup.connect("http://....").get();

  2. remove links to external style-sheets:

    // remove links to external style-sheets
    doc.head().getElementsByTag("link").remove();

  3. set link to local style-sheet:

    // set link to local stylesheet
    // <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="style.css" />
    doc.head().appendElement("link").attr("rel", "stylesheet").attr("type", "text/css").attr("href", "style.css");

  4. make string from jsoup-doc/web-page:

    String htmldata = doc.outerHtml();

  5. display web-page in webview:

    WebView webview = new WebView(this);
    setContentView(webview);
    webview.loadDataWithBaseURL("file:///android_asset/.", htmlData, "text/html", "UTF-8", null);

how to customize `show processlist` in mysql?

If you use old version of MySQL you can always use \P combined with some nice piece of awk code. Interesting example here

Isn't it exactly what you need?

java.lang.NullPointerException: Attempt to invoke virtual method 'int android.view.View.getImportantForAccessibility()' on a null object reference

public ClassBaseAdapter(Context context,ArrayList<Integer> listLoanAmount) {
    this.context = context;
    this.listLoanAmount = listLoanAmount;
    this.layoutInflater = LayoutInflater.from(context);
}

at the top of the class create LayoutInflater variable, hope this will help you

No default constructor found; nested exception is java.lang.NoSuchMethodException with Spring MVC?

If your environment is using both Guice and Spring and using the constructor @Inject, for example, with Play Framework, you will also run into this issue if you have mistakenly auto-completed the import with an incorrect choice of:

import com.google.inject.Inject;

Then you get the same missing default constructor error even though the rest of your source with @Inject looks exactly the same way as other working components in your project and compile without an error.

Correct that with:

import javax.inject.Inject;

Do not write a default constructor with construction time injection.

add a temporary column with a value

I'm rusty on SQL but I think you could use select as to make your own temporary query columns.

select field1, field2, 'example' as newfield from table1

That would only exist in your query results, of course. You're not actually modifying the table.

How do I get the key at a specific index from a Dictionary in Swift?

From https://developer.apple.com/library/prerelease/ios/documentation/swift/conceptual/swift_programming_language/CollectionTypes.html:

If you need to use a dictionary’s keys or values with an API that takes an Array instance, initialize a new array with the keys or values property:

let airportCodes = [String](airports.keys) // airportCodes is ["TYO", "LHR"]
let airportNames = [String](airports.values) // airportNames is ["Tokyo", "London Heathrow"]

How do I convert 2018-04-10T04:00:00.000Z string to DateTime?

Update: Using DateTimeFormat, introduced in java 8:

The idea is to define two formats: one for the input format, and one for the output format. Parse with the input formatter, then format with the output formatter.

Your input format looks quite standard, except the trailing Z. Anyway, let's deal with this: "yyyy-MM-dd'T'HH:mm:ss.SSS'Z'". The trailing 'Z' is the interesting part. Usually there's time zone data here, like -0700. So the pattern would be ...Z, i.e. without apostrophes.

The output format is way more simple: "dd-MM-yyyy". Mind the small y -s.

Here is the example code:

DateTimeFormatter inputFormatter = DateTimeFormatter.ofPattern("yyyy-MM-dd'T'HH:mm:ss.SSS'Z'", Locale.ENGLISH);
DateTimeFormatter outputFormatter = DateTimeFormatter.ofPattern("dd-MM-yyy", Locale.ENGLISH);
LocalDate date = LocalDate.parse("2018-04-10T04:00:00.000Z", inputFormatter);
String formattedDate = outputFormatter.format(date);
System.out.println(formattedDate); // prints 10-04-2018

Original answer - with old API SimpleDateFormat

SimpleDateFormat inputFormat = new SimpleDateFormat("yyyy-MM-dd'T'HH:mm:ss.SSS'Z'");
SimpleDateFormat outputFormat = new SimpleDateFormat("dd-MM-yyyy");
Date date = inputFormat.parse("2018-04-10T04:00:00.000Z");
String formattedDate = outputFormat.format(date);
System.out.println(formattedDate); // prints 10-04-2018

How to substitute shell variables in complex text files

Export all the needed variables and then use a perl onliner

TEXT=$(echo "$TEXT"|perl -wpne 's#\${?(\w+)}?# $ENV{$1} // $& #ge;')

This will replace all the ENV variables present in TEXT with actual values. Quotes are also preserved :)

jQuery 'input' event

As claustrofob said, oninput is supported for IE9+.

However, "The oninput event is buggy in Internet Explorer 9. It is not fired when characters are deleted from a text field through the user interface only when characters are inserted. Although the onpropertychange event is supported in Internet Explorer 9, but similarly to the oninput event, it is also buggy, it is not fired on deletion.

Since characters can be deleted in several ways (Backspace and Delete keys, CTRL + X, Cut and Delete command in context menu), there is no good solution to detect all changes. If characters are deleted by the Delete command of the context menu, the modification cannot be detected in JavaScript in Internet Explorer 9."

I have good results binding to both input and keyup (and keydown, if you want it to fire in IE while holding down the Backspace key).

How do you change text to bold in Android?

Here is the solution

TextView questionValue = (TextView) findViewById(R.layout.TextView01);
questionValue.setTypeface(null, Typeface.BOLD);

Using Default Arguments in a Function

You can also check if you have an empty string as argument so you can call like:

foo('blah', "", 'non-default y value', null);

Below the function:

function foo($blah, $x = null, $y = null, $z = null) {
    if (null === $x || "" === $x) {
        $x = "some value";
    }

    if (null === $y || "" === $y) {
        $y = "some other value";
    }

    if (null === $z || "" === $z) {
        $z = "some other value";
    }

    code here!

}

It doesn't matter if you fill null or "", you will still get the same result.

C# Set collection?

I know this is an old thread, but I was running into the same problem and found HashSet to be very unreliable because given the same seed, GetHashCode() returned different codes. So, I thought, why not just use a List and hide the add method like this

public class UniqueList<T> : List<T>
{
    public new void Add(T obj)
    {
        if(!Contains(obj))
        {
            base.Add(obj);
        }
    }
}

Because List uses the Equals method solely to determine equality, you can define the Equals method on your T type to make sure you get the desired results.

Different font size of strings in the same TextView

Use a Spannable String

 String s= "Hello Everyone";
 SpannableString ss1=  new SpannableString(s);
 ss1.setSpan(new RelativeSizeSpan(2f), 0,5, 0); // set size
 ss1.setSpan(new ForegroundColorSpan(Color.RED), 0, 5, 0);// set color
 TextView tv= (TextView) findViewById(R.id.textview);
 tv.setText(ss1);

Snap shot

enter image description here

You can split string using space and add span to the string you require.

 String s= "Hello Everyone";
 String[] each = s.split(" ");

Now apply span to the string and add the same to textview.

How to reload the current state?

I had multiple nested views and the goal was to reload only one with content. I tried different approaches but the only thing that worked for me is:

//to reload
$stateParams.reload = !$stateParams.reload; //flip value of reload param
$state.go($state.current, $stateParams);

//state config
$stateProvider
  .state('app.dashboard', {
    url: '/',
    templateUrl: 'app/components/dashboard/dashboard.tmpl.html',
    controller: 'DashboardController',
    controllerAs: 'vm',
    params: {reload: false} //add reload param to a view you want to reload
  });

In this case only needed view would be reloaded and caching would still work.

Turn a single number into single digits Python

The easiest way is to turn the int into a string and take each character of the string as an element of your list:

>>> n = 43365644
>>> digits = [int(x) for x in str(n)]
>>> digits
[4, 3, 3, 6, 5, 6, 4, 4]
>>> lst.extend(digits) # use the extends method if you want to add the list to another

It involves a casting operation, but it's readable and acceptable if you don't need extreme performance.

Solving sslv3 alert handshake failure when trying to use a client certificate

The solution for me on a CentOS 8 system was checking the System Cryptography Policy by verifying the /etc/crypto-policies/config reads the default value of DEFAULT rather than any other value.

Once changing this value to DEFAULT, run the following command:

/usr/bin/update-crypto-policies --set DEFAULT

Rerun the curl command and it should work.

Merging two arrays in .NET

In C# 3.0 you can use LINQ's Concat method to accomplish this easily:

int[] front = { 1, 2, 3, 4 };
int[] back = { 5, 6, 7, 8 };
int[] combined = front.Concat(back).ToArray();

In C# 2.0 you don't have such a direct way, but Array.Copy is probably the best solution:

int[] front = { 1, 2, 3, 4 };
int[] back = { 5, 6, 7, 8 };

int[] combined = new int[front.Length + back.Length];
Array.Copy(front, combined, front.Length);
Array.Copy(back, 0, combined, front.Length, back.Length);

This could easily be used to implement your own version of Concat.

How to terminate process from Python using pid?

Using the awesome psutil library it's pretty simple:

p = psutil.Process(pid)
p.terminate()  #or p.kill()

If you don't want to install a new library, you can use the os module:

import os
import signal

os.kill(pid, signal.SIGTERM) #or signal.SIGKILL

See also the os.kill documentation.

If you are interested in starting the command python StripCore.py if it is not running, and killing it otherwise, you can use psutil to do this reliably.

Something like:

import psutil
from subprocess import Popen

for process in psutil.process_iter():
    if process.cmdline() == ['python', 'StripCore.py']:
        print('Process found. Terminating it.')
        process.terminate()
        break
else:
    print('Process not found: starting it.')
    Popen(['python', 'StripCore.py'])

Sample run:

$python test_strip.py   #test_strip.py contains the code above
Process not found: starting it.
$python test_strip.py
Process found. Terminating it.
$python test_strip.py
Process not found: starting it.
$killall python
$python test_strip.py
Process not found: starting it.
$python test_strip.py
Process found. Terminating it.
$python test_strip.py
Process not found: starting it.

Note: In previous psutil versions cmdline was an attribute instead of a method.

Android, How to read QR code in my application?

if user doesn't have any qr reader, what will happen to the application? if it crashes, may i ask user to download for example QrDroid and after that use it?

Interestingly, Google now introduced Mobile Vision APIs, they are integrated in play services itself.

In your Gradle file just add:

compile 'com.google.android.gms:play-services-vision:11.4.0'

Taken from this QR code tutorial.

UPDATE 2020:

Now QR code scanning is also a part of ML Kit, so you can bundle the model inside the app and use it by integrating the following gradle dependency:

dependencies {
  // ...
  // Use this dependency to bundle the model with your app
  implementation 'com.google.mlkit:barcode-scanning:16.0.3'
}

Or you can use the following gradle dependency to dynamically download the models from Google Play Services:

dependencies {
  // ...
  // Use this dependency to use the dynamically downloaded model in Google Play Services
  implementation 'com.google.android.gms:play-services-mlkit-barcode-scanning:16.1.2'
}

Taken from this link.

jQuery .load() call doesn't execute JavaScript in loaded HTML file

This doesn't seem to work if you're loading the HTML field into a dynamically created element.

$('body').append('<div id="loader"></div>');
$('#loader').load('htmlwithscript.htm');

I look at firebug DOM and there is no script node at all, only the HTML and my CSS node.

Anyone have come across this?

How do you calculate log base 2 in Java for integers?

Why not:

    return (Math.log(n) / Math.log(2));
}

gson throws MalformedJsonException

I suspect that result1 has some characters at the end of it that you can't see in the debugger that follow the closing } character. What's the length of result1 versus result2? I'll note that result2 as you've quoted it has 169 characters.

GSON throws that particular error when there's extra characters after the end of the object that aren't whitespace, and it defines whitespace very narrowly (as the JSON spec does) - only \t, \n, \r, and space count as whitespace. In particular, note that trailing NUL (\0) characters do not count as whitespace and will cause this error.

If you can't easily figure out what's causing the extra characters at the end and eliminate them, another option is to tell GSON to parse in lenient mode:

Gson gson = new Gson();
JsonReader reader = new JsonReader(new StringReader(result1));
reader.setLenient(true);
Userinfo userinfo1 = gson.fromJson(reader, Userinfo.class);

Split String by delimiter position using oracle SQL

Therefore, I would like to separate the string by the furthest delimiter.

I know this is an old question, but this is a simple requirement for which SUBSTR and INSTR would suffice. REGEXP are still slower and CPU intensive operations than the old subtsr and instr functions.

SQL> WITH DATA AS
  2    ( SELECT 'F/P/O' str FROM dual
  3    )
  4  SELECT SUBSTR(str, 1, Instr(str, '/', -1, 1) -1) part1,
  5         SUBSTR(str, Instr(str, '/', -1, 1) +1) part2
  6  FROM DATA
  7  /

PART1 PART2
----- -----
F/P   O

As you said you want the furthest delimiter, it would mean the first delimiter from the reverse.

You approach was fine, but you were missing the start_position in INSTR. If the start_position is negative, the INSTR function counts back start_position number of characters from the end of string and then searches towards the beginning of string.

Converting Decimal to Binary Java

Well, you can use while loop, like this,

import java.util.Scanner;

public class DecimalToBinaryExample
{
    public static void main(String[] args)
    {
        int num;
        int a = 0;
        Scanner sc = new Scanner(System.in);
        System.out.println("Please enter a decimal number : ");
        num = sc.nextInt();
        int binary[] = new int[100];

        while(num != 0)
        {
            binary[a] = num % 2;
            num = num / 2;
            a++;
        }

        System.out.println("The binary value is : ");
        for(int b = a - 1; b >= 0; b--)
        {
            System.out.println("" + binary[b]);
        }
        sc.close();
    }
}

You can refer example below for some good explanation,

convert decimal to binary example.

jQuery-UI datepicker default date

Seeing that:

Set the date to highlight on first opening if the field is blank. Specify either an actual date via a Date object or as a string in the current dateFormat, or a number of days from today (e.g. +7) or a string of values and periods ('y' for years, 'm' for months, 'w' for weeks, 'd' for days, e.g. '+1m +7d'), or null for today.

If the current dateFormat is not recognized, you can still use the Date object using new Date(year, month, day)

In your example, this should work (I didn't test it) :

<script type="text/javascript">
$(function() {
    $("#birthdate" ).datepicker({
        changeMonth: true,
        changeYear: true,
        yearRange: '1920:2010',
        dateFormat : 'dd-mm-yy',
        defaultDate: new Date(1985,01,01)
    });
});
</script>

make sure that you insert your module and controller in your index.html first. then use this code in your module var app = angular.module("MesaViewer", []);

Reducing video size with same format and reducing frame size

ffmpeg -i <input.mp4> -b:v 2048k -s 1000x600 -fs 2048k -vcodec mpeg4 -acodec copy <output.mp4>
  • -i input file

  • -b:v videobitrate of output video in kilobytes (you have to try)

  • -s dimensions of output video

  • -fs FILESIZE of output video in kilobytes

  • -vcodec videocodec (use ffmpeg -codecs to list all available codecs)

  • -acodec audio codec for output video (only copy the audiostream, don't temper)

Exclude all transitive dependencies of a single dependency

In a simular issue I had the desired dependency declared with scope provided. With this approach the transitive dependencies are fetched but are NOT included in the package phase, which is what you want. I also like this solution in terms of maintenance, because there is no pom, or custom pom as in whaley's solution, needed to maintain; you only need to provide the specific dependency in the container and be done

how to include js file in php?

I tried this, I've got something like

script type="text/javascript" src="createDiv.php?id=" script

AND In createDiv.php I Have

document getElementbyid(imgslide).appendchild(imgslide5).innerHTML = 'php echo $helloworld; ';

And I got supermad because the php at the beginning of the createDiv.php I made the $helloWorld php variable was formatted cut and paste from the html page

But it wouldn't work cause Of whitespaces was anyone gonna tell anyone about the whitespace problem cause my real php whitespace still works but not this one.

How can I change the Bootstrap default font family using font from Google?

I think the best and cleanest way would be to get a custom download of bootstrap.

http://getbootstrap.com/customize/

You can then change the font-defaults in the Typography (in that link). This then gives you a .Less file that you can make further changes to defaults with later.

efficient way to implement paging

In SQL Server 2008:

DECLARE @PAGE INTEGER = 2
DECLARE @TAKE INTEGER = 50

SELECT [t1].*
FROM (
    SELECT ROW_NUMBER() OVER (ORDER BY [t0].[COLUMNORDER] DESC) AS [ROW_NUMBER], [t0].*
    FROM [dbo].[TABLA] AS [t0]
    WHERE ([t0].[COLUMNS_CONDITIONS] = 1)
    ) AS [t1]
WHERE [t1].[ROW_NUMBER] BETWEEN ((@PAGE*@TAKE) - (@TAKE-1)) AND (@PAGE*@TAKE)
ORDER BY [t1].[ROW_NUMBER]

In t0 are all records In t1 are only those corresponding to that page

Is there a need for range(len(a))?

I have an use case I don't believe any of your examples cover.

boxes = [b1, b2, b3]
items = [i1, i2, i3, i4, i5]
for j in range(len(boxes)):
    boxes[j].putitemin(items[j])

I'm relatively new to python though so happy to learn a more elegant approach.

How can I add a key/value pair to a JavaScript object?

var arrOfObj = [{name: 'eve'},{name:'john'},{name:'jane'}];
    var injectObj = {isActive:true, timestamp:new Date()};

    // function to inject key values in all object of json array

    function injectKeyValueInArray (array, keyValues){
        return new Promise((resolve, reject) => {
            if (!array.length)
                return resolve(array);

            array.forEach((object) => {
                for (let key in keyValues) {
                    object[key] = keyValues[key]
                }
            });
            resolve(array);
        })
    };

//call function to inject json key value in all array object
    injectKeyValueInArray(arrOfObj,injectObj).then((newArrOfObj)=>{
        console.log(newArrOfObj);
    });

Output like this:-

[ { name: 'eve',
    isActive: true,
    timestamp: 2017-12-16T16:03:53.083Z },
  { name: 'john',
    isActive: true,
    timestamp: 2017-12-16T16:03:53.083Z },
  { name: 'jane',
    isActive: true,
    timestamp: 2017-12-16T16:03:53.083Z } ]

How npm start runs a server on port 8000

If you will look at package.json file.

you will see something like this

 "start": "http-server -a localhost -p 8000"

This tells start a http-server at address of localhost on port 8000

http-server is a node-module.

Update:- Including comment by @Usman, ideally it should be present in your package.json but if it's not present you can include it in scripts section.

How can I delete an item from an array in VB.NET?

That depends on what you mean by delete. An array has a fixed size, so deleting doesn't really make sense.

If you want to remove element i, one option would be to move all elements j > i one position to the left (a[j - 1] = a[j] for all j, or using Array.Copy) and then resize the array using ReDim Preserve.

So, unless you are forced to use an array by some external constraint, consider using a data structure more suitable for adding and removing items. List<T>, for example, also uses an array internally but takes care of all the resizing issues itself: For removing items, it uses the algorithm mentioned above (without the ReDim), which is why List<T>.RemoveAt is an O(n) operation.

There's a whole lot of different collection classes in the System.Collections.Generic namespace, optimized for different use cases. If removing items frequently is a requirement, there are lots of better options than an array (or even List<T>).

Should image size be defined in the img tag height/width attributes or in CSS?

Option a. Simple straight fwd. What you see is what you get easy to make calculations.

Option b. Too messy to do this inline unless you want to have a site that can stretch. IE if you used the with:86em however modern browsers seem to handle this functionally adequately for my purposes.. . Personally the only time that i would use something like this is if i were to create a thumbnails catalogue.

/*css*/
ul.myThumbs{}
ul.myThumbs li {float:left; width:50px;}
ul.myThumbs li img{width:50px; height:50px;border:0;}

<!--html-->
<ul><li>
<img src="~/img/products/thumbs/productid.jpg" alt="" />
</li></ul>

Option c. Too messy to maintain.

Explode string by one or more spaces or tabs

$parts = preg_split('/\s+/', $str);

How to return only the Date from a SQL Server DateTime datatype

You can use the CONVERT function to return only the date. See the link(s) below:

CAST and CONVERT

The syntax for using the convert function is:

CONVERT ( data_type [ ( length ) ] , expression [ , style ] )

How to add an auto-incrementing primary key to an existing table, in PostgreSQL?

(Updated - Thanks to the people who commented)

Modern Versions of PostgreSQL

Suppose you have a table named test1, to which you want to add an auto-incrementing, primary-key id (surrogate) column. The following command should be sufficient in recent versions of PostgreSQL:

   ALTER TABLE test1 ADD COLUMN id SERIAL PRIMARY KEY;

Older Versions of PostgreSQL

In old versions of PostgreSQL (prior to 8.x?) you had to do all the dirty work. The following sequence of commands should do the trick:

  ALTER TABLE test1 ADD COLUMN id INTEGER;
  CREATE SEQUENCE test_id_seq OWNED BY test1.id;
  ALTER TABLE test ALTER COLUMN id SET DEFAULT nextval('test_id_seq');
  UPDATE test1 SET id = nextval('test_id_seq');

Again, in recent versions of Postgres this is roughly equivalent to the single command above.

How to check if string input is a number?

I would recommend this, @karthik27, for negative numbers

import re
num_format = re.compile(r'^\-?[1-9][0-9]*\.?[0-9]*')

Then do whatever you want with that regular expression, match(), findall() etc

The program can't start because libgcc_s_dw2-1.dll is missing

Code::Blocks: add '-static' in settings->compiler->Linker settings->Other linker options.

How do I convert a date/time to epoch time (unix time/seconds since 1970) in Perl?

There are many Date manipulation modules on CPAN. My particular favourite is DateTime and you can use the strptime modules to parse dates in arbitrary formats. There are also many DateTime::Format modules on CPAN for handling specialised date formats, but strptime is the most generic.

Is a Python list guaranteed to have its elements stay in the order they are inserted in?

Yes, the order of elements in a python list is persistent.

Best way to check if a drop down list contains a value?

That will return an item. Simply change to:

if (ddlCustomerNumber.Items.FindByText( GetCustomerNumberCookie().ToString()) != null)
    ddlCustomerNumber.SelectedIndex = 0;

How do I convert a String to a BigInteger?

Instead of using valueOf(long) and parse(), you can directly use the BigInteger constructor that takes a string argument:

BigInteger numBig = new BigInteger("8599825996872482982482982252524684268426846846846846849848418418414141841841984219848941984218942894298421984286289228927948728929829");

That should give you the desired value.

use video as background for div

Pure CSS method

It is possible to center a video inside an element just like a cover sized background-image without JS using the object-fit attribute or CSS Transforms.

2021 answer: object-fit

As pointed in the comments, it is possible to achieve the same result without CSS transform, but using object-fit, which I think it's an even better option for the same result:

_x000D_
_x000D_
.video-container {
    height: 300px;
    width: 300px;
    position: relative;
}

.video-container video {
  width: 100%;
  height: 100%;
  position: absolute;
  object-fit: cover;
  z-index: 0;
}

/* Just styling the content of the div, the *magic* in the previous rules */
.video-container .caption {
  z-index: 1;
  position: relative;
  text-align: center;
  color: #dc0000;
  padding: 10px;
}
_x000D_
<div class="video-container">
    <video autoplay muted loop>
        <source src="https://commondatastorage.googleapis.com/gtv-videos-bucket/sample/BigBuckBunny.mp4" type="video/mp4" />
    </video>

    </div>
</div>

Previous answer: CSS Transform

You can set a video as a background to any HTML element easily thanks to transform CSS property.

Note that you can use the transform technique to center vertically and horizontally any HTML element.

_x000D_
_x000D_
.video-container {
  height: 300px;
  width: 300px;
  overflow: hidden;
  position: relative;
}

.video-container video {
  min-width: 100%;
  min-height: 100%;
  position: absolute;
  top: 50%;
  left: 50%;
  transform: translateX(-50%) translateY(-50%);
}

/* Just styling the content of the div, the *magic* in the previous rules */
.video-container .caption {
  z-index: 1;
  position: relative;
  text-align: center;
  color: #dc0000;
  padding: 10px;
}
_x000D_
<div class="video-container">
  <video autoplay muted loop>
    <source src="https://commondatastorage.googleapis.com/gtv-videos-bucket/sample/BigBuckBunny.mp4" type="video/mp4" />

Get all attributes of an element using jQuery

Here is a one-liner for you.

JQuery Users:

Replace $jQueryObject with your jQuery object. i.e $('div').

Object.values($jQueryObject.get(0).attributes).map(attr => console.log(`${attr.name + ' : ' + attr.value}`));

Vanilla Javascript Users:

Replace $domElement with your HTML DOM selector. i.e document.getElementById('demo').

Object.values($domElement.attributes).map(attr => console.log(`${attr.name + ' : ' + attr.value}`));

Cheers!!

Ref

datetime.parse and making it work with a specific format

DateTime.ParseExact(input,"yyyyMMdd HH:mm",null);

assuming you meant to say that minutes followed the hours, not seconds - your example is a little confusing.

The ParseExact documentation details other overloads, in case you want to have the parse automatically convert to Universal Time or something like that.

As @Joel Coehoorn mentions, there's also the option of using TryParseExact, which will return a Boolean value indicating success or failure of the operation - I'm still on .Net 1.1, so I often forget this one.

If you need to parse other formats, you can check out the Standard DateTime Format Strings.

PHP - Get array value with a numeric index

array_values() will do pretty much what you want:

$numeric_indexed_array = array_values($your_array);
// $numeric_indexed_array = array('bar', 'bin', 'ipsum');
print($numeric_indexed_array[0]); // bar

Sort a two dimensional array based on one column

class ArrayComparator implements Comparator<Comparable[]> {
    private final int columnToSort;
    private final boolean ascending;

    public ArrayComparator(int columnToSort, boolean ascending) {
        this.columnToSort = columnToSort;
        this.ascending = ascending;
    }

    public int compare(Comparable[] c1, Comparable[] c2) {
        int cmp = c1[columnToSort].compareTo(c2[columnToSort]);
        return ascending ? cmp : -cmp;
    }
}

This way you can handle any type of data in those arrays (as long as they're Comparable) and you can sort any column in ascending or descending order.

String[][] data = getData();
Arrays.sort(data, new ArrayComparator(0, true));

PS: make sure you check for ArrayIndexOutOfBounds and others.

EDIT: The above solution would only be helpful if you are able to actually store a java.util.Date in the first column or if your date format allows you to use plain String comparison for those values. Otherwise, you need to convert that String to a Date, and you can achieve that using a callback interface (as a general solution). Here's an enhanced version:

class ArrayComparator implements Comparator<Object[]> {
    private static Converter DEFAULT_CONVERTER = new Converter() {
        @Override
        public Comparable convert(Object o) {
            // simply assume the object is Comparable
            return (Comparable) o;
        }
    };
    private final int columnToSort;
    private final boolean ascending;
    private final Converter converter;

    public ArrayComparator(int columnToSort, boolean ascending) {
        this(columnToSort, ascending, DEFAULT_CONVERTER);
    }

    public ArrayComparator(int columnToSort, boolean ascending, Converter converter) {
        this.columnToSort = columnToSort;
        this.ascending = ascending;
        this.converter = converter;
    }

    public int compare(Object[] o1, Object[] o2) {
        Comparable c1 = converter.convert(o1[columnToSort]);
        Comparable c2 = converter.convert(o2[columnToSort]);
        int cmp = c1.compareTo(c2);
        return ascending ? cmp : -cmp;
    }

}

interface Converter {
    Comparable convert(Object o);
}

class DateConverter implements Converter {
    private static final DateFormat df = new SimpleDateFormat("yyyy.MM.dd hh:mm");

    @Override
    public Comparable convert(Object o) {
        try {
            return df.parse(o.toString());
        } catch (ParseException e) {
            throw new IllegalArgumentException(e);
        }
    }
}

And at this point, you can sort on your first column with:

Arrays.sort(data, new ArrayComparator(0, true, new DateConverter());

I skipped the checks for nulls and other error handling issues.

I agree this is starting to look like a framework already. :)

Last (hopefully) edit: I only now realize that your date format allows you to use plain String comparison. If that is the case, you don't need the "enhanced version".

How to send a POST request with BODY in swift

I don't like any of the other answers so far (except perhaps the one by SwiftDeveloper), because they either require you to deserialize your JSON, only for it to be serialized again, or care about the structure of the JSON itself.

The correct answer has been posted by afrodev in another question. You should go and upvote it.

How to correctly get image from 'Resources' folder in NetBeans

I have a slightly different approach that might be useful/more beneficial to some.

Under your main project folder, create a resource folder. Your folder structure should look something like this.

  • Project Folder
    • build
    • dist
    • lib
    • nbproject
    • resources
    • src

Go to the properties of your project. You can do this by right clicking on your project in the Projects tab window and selecting Properties in the drop down menu.

Under categories on the left side, select Sources.

In Source Package Folders on the right side, add your resource folder using the Add Folder button. Once you click OK, you should see a Resources folder under your project.

enter image description here

You should now be able to pull resources using this line or similar approach:

MyClass.class.getResource("/main.jpg");

If you were to create a package called Images under the resources folder, you can retrieve the resource like this:

MyClass.class.getResource("/Images/main.jpg");

Duplicate keys in .NET dictionaries?

The List class actually works quite well for key/value collections containing duplicates where you would like to iterate over the collection. Example:

List<KeyValuePair<string, string>> list = new List<KeyValuePair<string, string>>();

// add some values to the collection here

for (int i = 0;  i < list.Count;  i++)
{

How to remove white space characters from a string in SQL Server

Looks like the invisible character -

ALT+255

Try this

select REPLACE(ProductAlternateKey, ' ', '@')

Edit: Based on ASCII() results, try ALT+10 - use numeric keypad

How to stop console from closing on exit?

What about Console.Readline();?

How can I close a window with Javascript on Mozilla Firefox 3?

For security reasons, your script cannot close a window/tab that it did not open.

The solution is to present the age prompt at an earlier point in the navigation history. Then, you can choose to allow them to enter your site or not based on their input.

Instead of closing the page that presents the prompt, you can simply say, "Sorry", or perhaps redirect the user to their homepage.

How to parse a text file with C#

You could open the file up and use StreamReader.ReadLine to read the file in line-by-line. Then you can use String.Split to break each line into pieces (use a \t delimiter) to extract the second number.

As the number of items is different you would need to search the string for the pattern 'item\*.ddj'.

To delete an item you could (for example) keep all of the file's contents in memory and write out a new file when the user clicks 'Save'.

How change default SVN username and password to commit changes?

since your local username on your laptop frequently does not match the server's username, you can set this in the ~/.subversion/servers file

Add the server to the [groups] section with a name, then add a section with that name and provide a username.

for example, for a login like [email protected] this is what your config would look like:

[groups]
exampleserver = svn.example.com

[exampleserver]
username = me

Python timedelta in years

Here's a updated DOB function, which calculates birthdays the same way humans do:

import datetime
import locale

# Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/February_29
PRE = [
    'US',
    'TW',
]
POST = [
    'GB',
    'HK',
]

def get_country():
    code, _ = locale.getlocale()
    try:
        return code.split('_')[1]
    except IndexError:
        raise Exception('Country cannot be ascertained from locale.')

def get_leap_birthday(year):
    country = get_country()
    if country in PRE:
        return datetime.date(year, 2, 28)
    elif country in POST:
        return datetime.date(year, 3, 1)
    else:
        raise Exception('It is unknown whether your country treats leap year '
                      + 'birthdays as being on the 28th of February or '
                      + 'the 1st of March. Please consult your country\'s '
                      + 'legal code for in order to ascertain an answer.')
def age(dob):
    today = datetime.date.today()
    years = today.year - dob.year

    try:
        birthday = datetime.date(today.year, dob.month, dob.day)
    except ValueError as e:
        if dob.month == 2 and dob.day == 29:

        else:
            raise e

Printing the correct number of decimal points with cout

Just a minor point; put the following in the header

using namespace std;

then

std::cout << std::fixed << std::setprecision(2) << d;

becomes simplified to

cout << fixed << setprecision(2) << d;

Regex that matches integers in between whitespace or start/end of string only

This worked in my case where I needed positive and negative integers that should NOT include zero-starting numbers like 01258 but should of course include 0

^(-?[1-9]+\d*)$|^0$

Example of valid values: "3", "-3", "0", "-555", "945465464654"

Example of not valid values: "0.0", "1.0", "0.7", "690.7", "0.0001", "a", "", " ", ".", "-", "001", "00.2", "000.5", ".3", "3.", " -1", "+100", "--1", "-.1", "-0", "00099", "099"

Java ArrayList copy

Yes l1 and l2 will point to the same reference, same object.

If you want to create a new ArrayList based on the other ArrayList you do this:

List<String> l1 = new ArrayList<String>();
l1.add("Hello");
l1.add("World");
List<String> l2 = new ArrayList<String>(l1); //A new arrayList.
l2.add("Everybody");

The result will be l1 will still have 2 elements and l2 will have 3 elements.

How to declare a inline object with inline variables without a parent class

You can also do this:

var x = new object[] {
    new { firstName = "john", lastName = "walter" },
    new { brand = "BMW" }
};

And if they are the same anonymous type (firstName and lastName), you won't need to cast as object.

var y = new [] {
    new { firstName = "john", lastName = "walter" },
    new { firstName = "jill", lastName = "white" }
};

ASP.NET email validator regex

Here is the regex for the Internet Email Address using the RegularExpressionValidator in .NET

\w+([-+.']\w+)*@\w+([-.]\w+)*\.\w+([-.]\w+)*

By the way if you put a RegularExpressionValidator on the page and go to the design view there is a ValidationExpression field that you can use to choose from a list of expressions provided by .NET. Once you choose the expression you want there is a Validation expression: textbox that holds the regex used for the validator

ie8 var w= window.open() - "Message: Invalid argument."

The answers here are correct in that IE does not support spaces when setting the title in window.open(), none seem to offer a workaround.

I removed the title from my window.open call (you can use null or ''), and hten added the following to the page being opened:

<script>document.title = 'My new title';</script>

Not ideal by any means, but this will allow you to set the title to whatever you want in all browsers.

Moq, SetupGet, Mocking a property

But while mocking read-only properties means properties with getter method only you should declare it as virtual otherwise System.NotSupportedException will be thrown because it is only supported in VB as moq internally override and create proxy when we mock anything.

How to add a button programmatically in VBA next to some sheet cell data?

I think this is enough to get you on a nice path:

Sub a()
  Dim btn As Button
  Application.ScreenUpdating = False
  ActiveSheet.Buttons.Delete
  Dim t As Range
  For i = 2 To 6 Step 2
    Set t = ActiveSheet.Range(Cells(i, 3), Cells(i, 3))
    Set btn = ActiveSheet.Buttons.Add(t.Left, t.Top, t.Width, t.Height)
    With btn
      .OnAction = "btnS"
      .Caption = "Btn " & i
      .Name = "Btn" & i
    End With
  Next i
  Application.ScreenUpdating = True
End Sub

Sub btnS()
 MsgBox Application.Caller
End Sub

It creates the buttons and binds them to butnS(). In the btnS() sub, you should show your dialog, etc.

How large is a DWORD with 32- and 64-bit code?

Actually, on 32-bit computers a word is 32-bit, but the DWORD type is a leftover from the good old days of 16-bit.

In order to make it easier to port programs to the newer system, Microsoft has decided all the old types will not change size.

You can find the official list here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa383751(VS.85).aspx

All the platform-dependent types that changed with the transition from 32-bit to 64-bit end with _PTR (DWORD_PTR will be 32-bit on 32-bit Windows and 64-bit on 64-bit Windows).

Search for executable files using find command

Well the easy answer would be: "your executable files are in the directories contained in your PATH variable" but that would not really find your executables and could miss a lot of executables anyway.

I don't know much about mac but I think "mdfind 'kMDItemContentType=public.unix-executable'" might miss stuff like interpreted scripts

If it's ok for you to find files with the executable bits set (regardless of whether they are actually executable) then it's fine to do

find . -type f -perm +111 -print

where supported the "-executable" option will make a further filter looking at acl and other permission artifacts but is technically not much different to "-pemr +111".

Maybe in the future find will support "-magic " and let you look explicitly for files with a specific magic id ... but then you would haveto specify to fine all the executable formats magic id.

I'm unaware of a technically correct easy way out on unix.

SHA1 vs md5 vs SHA256: which to use for a PHP login?

MD5 is bad because of collision problems - two different passwords possibly generating the same md-5.

Sha-1 would be plenty secure for this. The reason you store the salted sha-1 version of the password is so that you the swerver do not keep the user's apassword on file, that they may be using with other people's servers. Otherwise, what difference does it make?

If the hacker steals your entire unencrypted database some how, the only thing a hashed salted password does is prevent him from impersonating the user for future signons - the hacker already has the data.

What good does it do the attacker to have the hashed value, if what your user inputs is a plain password?

And even if the hacker with future technology could generate a million sha-1 keys a second for a brute force attack, would your server handle a million logons a second for the hacker to test his keys? That's if you are letting the hacker try to logon with the salted sha-1 instead of a password like a normal logon.

The best bet is to limit bad logon attempts to some reasonable number - 25 for example, and then time the user out for a minute or two. And if the cumulative bady logon attempts hits 250 within 24 hours, shut the account access down and email the owner.

ListBox vs. ListView - how to choose for data binding

A ListView is a specialized ListBox (that is, it inherits from ListBox). It allows you to specify different views rather than a straight list. You can either roll your own view, or use GridView (think explorer-like "details view"). It's basically the multi-column listbox, the cousin of windows form's listview.

If you don't need the additional capabilities of ListView, you can certainly use ListBox if you're simply showing a list of items (Even if the template is complex).

How do I access call log for android?

To get Incoming,Outgoing and Missed Call history , hope this code will help u:)

Call this code on your background thread.

Base64 encoding and decoding in oracle

All the previous posts are correct. There's more than one way to skin a cat. Here is another way to do the same thing: (just replace "what_ever_you_want_to_convert" with your string and run it in Oracle:

    set serveroutput on;
    DECLARE
    v_str VARCHAR2(1000);
    BEGIN
    --Create encoded value
    v_str := utl_encode.text_encode
    ('what_ever_you_want_to_convert','WE8ISO8859P1', UTL_ENCODE.BASE64);
    dbms_output.put_line(v_str);
    --Decode the value..
    v_str := utl_encode.text_decode
    (v_str,'WE8ISO8859P1', UTL_ENCODE.BASE64);
    dbms_output.put_line(v_str);
    END;

Counting the occurrences / frequency of array elements

I was solving a similar problem on codewars and devised the following solution which worked for me.

This gives the highest count of an integer in an array and also the integer itself. I think it can be applied to string array as well.

To properly sort Strings, remove the function(a, b){return a-b} from inside the sort() portion

function mostFrequentItemCount(collection) {
    collection.sort(function(a, b){return a-b});
    var i=0;
    var ans=[];
    var int_ans=[];
    while(i<collection.length)
    {
        if(collection[i]===collection[i+1])
        {
            int_ans.push(collection[i]);
        }
        else
        {
            int_ans.push(collection[i]);
            ans.push(int_ans);
            int_ans=[];
        }
        i++;
    }

    var high_count=0;
    var high_ans;

    i=0;
    while(i<ans.length)
    {
        if(ans[i].length>high_count)
        {
            high_count=ans[i].length;
            high_ans=ans[i][0];
        }
        i++;
    }
    return high_ans;
}

How do I check if a Sql server string is null or empty

This simple combination of COALESCE and NULLIF should do the trick:

SELECT
  Coalesce(NULLIF(listing.OfferText, ''), company.OfferText) As Offer_Text
...

Note: Add another empty string as the last COALESCE argument if you want the statement to return an empty string instead of NULL if both values are NULL.

How to get the public IP address of a user in C#

This is what I use:

protected void GetUser_IP()
{
    string VisitorsIPAddr = string.Empty;
    if (HttpContext.Current.Request.ServerVariables["HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FOR"] != null)
    {
        VisitorsIPAddr = HttpContext.Current.Request.ServerVariables["HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FOR"].ToString();
    }
    else if (HttpContext.Current.Request.UserHostAddress.Length != 0)
    {
        VisitorsIPAddr = HttpContext.Current.Request.UserHostAddress;
    }
    uip.Text = "Your IP is: " + VisitorsIPAddr;
}

"uip" is the name of the label in the aspx page that shows the user IP.

Get Enum from Description attribute

The solution works good except if you have a Web Service.

You would need to do the Following as the Description Attribute is not serializable.

[DataContract]
public enum ControlSelectionType
{
    [EnumMember(Value = "Not Applicable")]
    NotApplicable = 1,
    [EnumMember(Value = "Single Select Radio Buttons")]
    SingleSelectRadioButtons = 2,
    [EnumMember(Value = "Completely Different Display Text")]
    SingleSelectDropDownList = 3,
}

public static string GetDescriptionFromEnumValue(Enum value)
{
        EnumMemberAttribute attribute = value.GetType()
            .GetField(value.ToString())
            .GetCustomAttributes(typeof(EnumMemberAttribute), false)
            .SingleOrDefault() as EnumMemberAttribute;
        return attribute == null ? value.ToString() : attribute.Value;
}
