grid controls for ASP.NET MVC?

We have been using jqGrid on a project and have had some good luck with it. Lots of options for inline editing, etc. If that stuff isn't necessary, then we've just used a plain foreach loop like @Hrvoje.

Android: Go back to previous activity

Besides all the mentioned answers, their is still an alternative way of doing this, lets say you have two classes , class A and class B.

Class A you have made some activities like checkbox select, printed out some data and intent to class B. Class B, you would like to pass multiple values to class A and maintain the previous state of class A, you can use, try this alternative method or download source code to demonstrate this

http://whats-online.info/science-and-tutorials/125/Android-maintain-the-previous-state-of-activity-on-intent/

Android Endless List

The key of this problem is to detect the load-more event, start an async request for data and then update the list. Also an adapter with loading indicator and other decorators is needed. In fact, the problem is very complicated in some corner cases. Just a OnScrollListener implementation is not enough, because sometimes the items do not fill the screen.

I have written a personal package which support endless list for RecyclerView, and also provide a async loader implementation AutoPagerFragment which makes it very easy to get data from a multi-page source. It can load any page you want into a RecyclerView on a custom event, not only the next page.

Here is the address: https://github.com/SphiaTower/AutoPagerRecyclerManager

How can I delete a user in linux when the system says its currently used in a process

Only solution that worked for me

$ sudo killall -u username && sudo deluser --remove-home -f username

The killall command is used if multiple processes are used by the user you want to delete.

The -f option forces the removal of the user account, even if the user is still logged in. It also forces deluser to remove the user's home directory and mail spool, even if another user uses the same home directory.

Please confirm that it works in the comments.

How to fix 'Unchecked runtime.lastError: The message port closed before a response was received' chrome issue?

This error is generally caused by one of your Chrome extensions.

I recommend installing this One-Click Extension Disabler, I use it with the keyboard shortcut COMMAND (?) + SHIFT (?) + D — to quickly disable/enable all my extensions.

Once the extensions are disabled this error message should go away.

Drop Down Menu/Text Field in one

The modern solution is an input field of type "search"!

https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/HTML/Element/input/search https://www.w3schools.com/tags/tag_datalist.asp

Somewhere in your HTML you define a datalist for later reference:

<datalist id="mylist">
   <option value="Option 1">
   <option value="Option 2">
   <option value="Option 3">
</datalist>

Then you can define your search input like this:

<input type="search" list="mylist">

Voilà. Very nice and easy.

mysqli_select_db() expects parameter 1 to be mysqli, string given

// 2. Select a database to use
$db_select = mysqli_select_db($connection, DB_NAME);
if (!$db_select) {
    die("Database selection failed: " . mysqli_error($connection));
}

You got the order of the arguments to mysqli_select_db() backwards. And mysqli_error() requires you to provide a connection argument. mysqli_XXX is not like mysql_XXX, these arguments are no longer optional.

Note also that with mysqli you can specify the DB in mysqli_connect():

$connection = mysqli_connect(DB_SERVER, DB_USER, DB_PASS, DB_NAME);
if (!$connection) {
  die("Database connection failed: " . mysqli_connect_error();
}

You must use mysqli_connect_error(), not mysqli_error(), to get the error from mysqli_connect(), since the latter requires you to supply a valid connection.

How do I create a file AND any folders, if the folders don't exist?

Assuming that your assembly/exe has FileIO permission is itself, well is not right. Your application may not run with admin rights. Its important to consider Code Access Security and requesting permissions Sample code:

FileIOPermission f2 = new FileIOPermission(FileIOPermissionAccess.Read, "C:\\test_r");
f2.AddPathList(FileIOPermissionAccess.Write | FileIOPermissionAccess.Read, "C:\\example\\out.txt");
try
{
    f2.Demand();
}
catch (SecurityException s)
{
    Console.WriteLine(s.Message);
}

Finding child element of parent pure javascript

You have a parent element, you want to get all child of specific attribute 1. get the parent 2. get the parent nodename by using parent.nodeName.toLowerCase() convert the nodename to lower case e.g DIV will be div 3. for further specific purpose, get an attribute of the parent e.g parent.getAttribute("id"). this will give you id of the parent 4. Then use document.QuerySelectorAll(paret.nodeName.toLowerCase()+"#"_parent.getAttribute("id")+" input " ); if you want input children of the parent node

Where are Magento's log files located?

You can find the log within you Magento root directory under

var/log

there are two types of log files system.log and exception.log

you need to give the correct permission to var folder, then enable logging from your Magento admin by going to

System > Configuration> Developer > Log Settings > Enable = Yes

system.log is used for general debugging and catches almost all log entries from Magento, including warning, debug and errors messages from both native and custom modules.

exception.log is reserved for exceptions only, for example when you are using try-catch statement.

To output to either the default system.log or the exception.log see the following code examples:

Mage::log('My log entry');
Mage::log('My log message: '.$myVariable);
Mage::log($myArray);
Mage::log($myObject);
Mage::logException($e);

You can create your own log file for more debugging

Mage::log('My log entry', null, 'mylogfile.log');

compareTo() vs. equals()

There are certain things which you need to keep in mind while overriding compareTo in Java e.g. Compareto must be consistent with equals and subtraction should not be used for comparing integer fields as they can overflow. check Things to remember while overriding Comparator in Java for details.

Format in kotlin string templates

As a workaround, There is a Kotlin stdlib function that can be used in a nice way and fully compatible with Java's String format (it's only a wrapper around Java's String.format())

See Kotlin's documentation

Your code would be:

val pi = 3.14159265358979323
val s = "pi = %.2f".format(pi)

Enum(TestEnum,
Enum_1= 0,
Enum_2= 1,
Enum_3= 2,
Enum_4= 4,
Enum_5= 8,
Enum_6= 16,
Enum_7= 32);

the max will be available here:

int array [TestEnum::TestEnum_MAX];
for(uint32_t fIdx = 0; fIdx < TestEnum::TestEnum_MAX; fIdx++)
{
     array [fIdx] = 0;

PHP class: Global variable as property in class

Try to avoid globals, instead you can use something like this

class myClass() {
 private $myNumber;

 public function setNumber($number) {
  $this->myNumber = $number;
 }
}

Now you can call

$class = new myClass();
$class->setNumber('1234');

Div width 100% minus fixed amount of pixels

The usual way to do it is as outlined by Guffa, nested elements. It's a bit sad having to add extra markup to get the hooks you need for this, but in practice a wrapper div here or there isn't going to hurt anyone.

If you must do it without extra elements (eg. when you don't have control of the page markup), you can use box-sizing, which has pretty decent but not complete or simple browser support. Likely more fun than having to rely on scripting though.

How to generate a random integer number from within a range

While Ryan is correct, the solution can be much simpler based on what is known about the source of the randomness. To re-state the problem:

  • There is a source of randomness, outputting integer numbers in range [0, MAX) with uniform distribution.
  • The goal is to produce uniformly distributed random integer numbers in range [rmin, rmax] where 0 <= rmin < rmax < MAX.

In my experience, if the number of bins (or "boxes") is significantly smaller than the range of the original numbers, and the original source is cryptographically strong - there is no need to go through all that rigamarole, and simple modulo division would suffice (like output = rnd.next() % (rmax+1), if rmin == 0), and produce random numbers that are distributed uniformly "enough", and without any loss of speed. The key factor is the randomness source (i.e., kids, don't try this at home with rand()).

Here's an example/proof of how it works in practice. I wanted to generate random numbers from 1 to 22, having a cryptographically strong source that produced random bytes (based on Intel RDRAND). The results are:

Rnd distribution test (22 boxes, numbers of entries in each box):
 1: 409443    4.55%
 2: 408736    4.54%
 3: 408557    4.54%
 4: 409125    4.55%
 5: 408812    4.54%
 6: 409418    4.55%
 7: 408365    4.54%
 8: 407992    4.53%
 9: 409262    4.55%
10: 408112    4.53%
11: 409995    4.56%
12: 409810    4.55%
13: 409638    4.55%
14: 408905    4.54%
15: 408484    4.54%
16: 408211    4.54%
17: 409773    4.55%
18: 409597    4.55%
19: 409727    4.55%
20: 409062    4.55%
21: 409634    4.55%
22: 409342    4.55%
total: 100.00%

This is as close to uniform as I need for my purpose (fair dice throw, generating cryptographically strong codebooks for WWII cipher machines such as http://users.telenet.be/d.rijmenants/en/kl-7sim.htm, etc). The output does not show any appreciable bias.

Here's the source of cryptographically strong (true) random number generator: Intel Digital Random Number Generator and a sample code that produces 64-bit (unsigned) random numbers.

int rdrand64_step(unsigned long long int *therand)
{
  unsigned long long int foo;
  int cf_error_status;

  asm("rdrand %%rax; \
        mov $1,%%edx; \
        cmovae %%rax,%%rdx; \
        mov %%edx,%1; \
        mov %%rax, %0;":"=r"(foo),"=r"(cf_error_status)::"%rax","%rdx");
        *therand = foo;
  return cf_error_status;
}

I compiled it on Mac OS X with clang-6.0.1 (straight), and with gcc-4.8.3 using "-Wa,q" flag (because GAS does not support these new instructions).

How to move git repository with all branches from bitbucket to github?

http://www.blackdogfoundry.com/blog/moving-repository-from-bitbucket-to-github/

This helped me move from one git provider to another. At the end of it, all the commits were in the destination git. Simple and straight forward.

git remote rename origin bitbucket
git remote add origin https://github.com/edwardaux/Pipelines.git
git push origin master

Once I was happy that the push had been successful to GitHub, I could delete the old remote by issuing:

git remote rm bitbucket

    myMap1.put("CRC", "Vla1");

Set background image on grid in WPF using C#

All of this can easily be acheived in the xaml by adding the following code in the grid

<Grid>
    <Grid.Background>
        <ImageBrush ImageSource="/MyProject;component/Images/bg.png"/>
    </Grid.Background>
</Grid>

Left for you to do, is adding a folder to the solution called 'Images' and adding an existing file to your new 'Images' folder, in this case called 'bg.png'

Graphical user interface Tutorial in C

You can also have a look at FLTK (C++ and not plain C though)

FLTK (pronounced "fulltick") is a cross-platform C++ GUI toolkit for UNIX®/Linux® (X11), Microsoft® Windows®, and MacOS® X. FLTK provides modern GUI functionality without the bloat and supports 3D graphics via OpenGL® and its built-in GLUT emulation.

FLTK is designed to be small and modular enough to be statically linked, but works fine as a shared library. FLTK also includes an excellent UI builder called FLUID that can be used to create applications in minutes.

This doesn't always mean disk space – it could mean physical disk space, logical space (e.g. maximum file length), space in a certain data structure or address space. For example you can get it if there isn't space in the directory table (vfat) or there aren't any inodes left. It roughly means “I can't find where to write this down”.

Particularly in Python, this can happen on any write I/O operation. It can happen during f.write, but it can also happen on open, on f.flush and even on f.close. Where it happened provides a vital clue for the reason that it did – if it happened on open there wasn't enough space to write the metadata for the entry, if it happened during f.write, f.flush or f.close there wasn't enough disk space left or you've exceeded the maximum file size.

If the filesystem in the given directory is vfat you'd hit the maximum file limit at about the same time that you did. The limit is supposed to be 2^16 directory entries, but if I recall correctly some other factors can affect it (e.g. some files require more than one entry).

It would be best to avoid creating so many files in a directory. Few filesystems handle so many directory entries with ease. Unless you're certain that your filesystem deals well with many files in a directory, you can consider another strategy (e.g. create more directories).

P.S. Also do not trust the remaining disk space – some file systems reserve some space for root and others miscalculate the free space and give you a number that just isn't true.

Is it possible to listen to a "style change" event?

Since jQuery is open-source, I would guess that you could tweak the css function to call a function of your choice every time it is invoked (passing the jQuery object). Of course, you'll want to scour the jQuery code to make sure there is nothing else it uses internally to set CSS properties. Ideally, you'd want to write a separate plugin for jQuery so that it does not interfere with the jQuery library itself, but you'll have to decide whether or not that is feasible for your project.

How to Check whether Session is Expired or not in asp.net

I use the @Adi-lester answer and add some methods.

Method to verify if Session is Alive

public static void SessionIsAlive(HttpSessionStateBase Session)
{
    if (Session.Contents.Count == 0)
    {
        Response.Redirect("Timeout.html");
    }
    else
    {
        InitializeControls();
    }
}

Create session var in Page Load

protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
    Session["user_id"] = 1;
}

Create SaveData method (but you can use it in all methods)

protected void SaveData()
{
    // Verify if Session is Alive
    SessionIsAlive(Session);

    //Save Data Process
    // bla
    // bla
    // bla
}

how do I check in bash whether a file was created more than x time ago?

Creation time isn't stored.

What are stored are three timestamps (generally, they can be turned off on certain filesystems or by certain filesystem options):

  • Last access time
  • Last modification time
  • Last change time

a "Change" to the file is counted as permission changes, rename etc. While the modification is contents only.

How to use HTML to print header and footer on every printed page of a document?

One approach that only works for adding headers to every page is to wrap your content in a <table> and then put your header content in a <thead> tag and your content in a <tbody> tag, like so:

<table>
  <thead>
    <tr>
      <th>This content appears on every page</th>
    </tr>
   </thead>
   <tbody>
     <tr>
       <td>Put all your content here, it can span multiple pages and your header will show up at the top of each page</td>
     </tr>
   </tbody>
 </table>

This works in Chrome, not 100% sure about other browsers.

Concatenate multiple files but include filename as section headers

I used grep for something similar:

grep "" *.txt

It does not give you a 'header', but prefixes every line with the filename.

Threading pool similar to the multiprocessing Pool?

There is no built in thread based pool. However, it can be very quick to implement a producer/consumer queue with the Queue class.

From: https://docs.python.org/2/library/queue.html

from threading import Thread
from Queue import Queue
def worker():
    while True:
        item = q.get()
        do_work(item)
        q.task_done()

q = Queue()
for i in range(num_worker_threads):
     t = Thread(target=worker)
     t.daemon = True
     t.start()

for item in source():
    q.put(item)

q.join() # block until all tasks are done

How to call external url in jquery?

I think the only way is by using internel PHP code like MANOJ and Fernando suggest.

curl post/get in php file on your server --> call this php file with ajax

The PHP file let say (fb.php):

$commentdata=$_GET['commentdata'];
$fbUrl="https://graph.facebook.com/16453004404_481759124404/comments?access_token=my_token";
curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_URL,$fbUrl);
curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_POST, 1);
// POST data here
curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_POSTFIELDS,
        "message=".$commentdata);

// receive server response ...
curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER, true);

$server_output = curl_exec ($ch);
echo $server_output;
curl_close ($ch);

Than use AJAX GET to

fb.php?commentmeta=your comment goes here

from your server.

Or do this with simple HTML and JavaScript from externel server:

Message: <input type="text" id="message">
<input type="submit" onclick='PostMessage()'>
<script>
function PostMessage() {
var comment = document.getElementById('message').value;
    window.location.assign('http://yourdomain.tld/fb.php?commentmeta='+comment)
}
</script>

IIS7: Setup Integrated Windows Authentication like in IIS6

Two-stage authentication is not supported with IIS7 Integrated mode. Authentication is now modularized, so rather than IIS performing authentication followed by asp.net performing authentication, it all happens at the same time.

You can either:

  1. Change the app domain to be in IIS6 classic mode...
  2. Follow this example (old link) of how to fake two-stage authentication with IIS7 integrated mode.
  3. Use Helicon Ape and mod_auth to provide basic authentication

Best way in asp.net to force https for an entire site?

What you need to do is :

1) Add a key inside of web.config, depending upon the production or stage server like below

<add key="HttpsServer" value="stage"/>
             or
<add key="HttpsServer" value="prod"/>

2) Inside your Global.asax file add below method.

void Application_BeginRequest(Object sender, EventArgs e)
{
    //if (ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["HttpsServer"].ToString() == "prod")
    if (ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["HttpsServer"].ToString() == "stage")
    {
        if (!HttpContext.Current.Request.IsSecureConnection)
        {
            if (!Request.Url.GetLeftPart(UriPartial.Authority).Contains("www"))
            {
                HttpContext.Current.Response.Redirect(
                    Request.Url.GetLeftPart(UriPartial.Authority).Replace("http://", "https://www."), true);
            }
            else
            {

How to get info on sent PHP curl request

You can also use a proxy tool like Charles to capture the outgoing request headers, data, etc. by passing the proxy details through CURLOPT_PROXY to your curl_setopt_array method.

For example:

$proxy = '127.0.0.1:8888';
$opt = array (
    CURLOPT_URL => "http://www.example.com",
    CURLOPT_PROXY => $proxy,
    CURLOPT_POST => true,
    CURLOPT_VERBOSE => true,
    );

$ch = curl_init();
curl_setopt_array($ch, $opt);
curl_exec($ch);
curl_close($ch);

How do you use Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_CLEAR_TOP to clear the Activity Stack?

I know that there's already an accepted answer, but I don't see how it works for the OP because I don't think FLAG_ACTIVITY_CLEAR_TOP is meaningful in his particular case. That flag is relevant only with activities in the same task. Based on his description, each activity is in its own task: A, B, and the browser.

Something that is maybe throwing him off is that A is singleTop, when it should be singleTask. If A is singleTop, and B starts A, then a new A will be created because A is not in B's task. From the documentation for singleTop:

"If an instance of the activity already exists at the top of the current task, the system routes the intent to that instance..."

Since B starts A, the current task is B's task, which is for a singleInstance and therefore cannot include A. Use singleTask to achieve the desired result there because then the system will find the task that has A and bring that task to the foreground.

Lastly, after B has started A, and the user presses back from A, the OP does not want to see either B or the browser. To achieve this, calling finish() in B is correct; again, FLAG_ACTIVITY_CLEAR_TOP won't remove the other activities in A's task because his other activities are all in different tasks. The piece that he was missing, though is that B should also use FLAG_ACTIVITY_NO_HISTORY when firing the intent for the browser. Note: if the browser is already running prior to even starting the OP's application, then of course you will see the browser when pressing back from A. So to really test this, be sure to back out of the browser before starting the application.

Using DISTINCT inner join in SQL

I did a test on MS SQL 2005 using the following tables: A 400K rows, B 26K rows and C 450 rows.

The estimated query plan indicated that the basic inner join would be 3 times slower than the nested sub-queries, however when actually running the query, the basic inner join was twice as fast as the nested queries, The basic inner join took 297ms on very minimal server hardware.

What database are you using, and what times are you seeing? I'm thinking if you are seeing poor performance then it is probably an index problem.

What is TypeScript and why would I use it in place of JavaScript?

TypeScript's relation to JavaScript

TypeScript is a typed superset of JavaScript that compiles to plain JavaScript - typescriptlang.org.

JavaScript is a programming language that is developed by EMCA's Technical Committee 39, which is a group of people composed of many different stakeholders. TC39 is a committee hosted by ECMA: an internal standards organization. JavaScript has many different implementations by many different vendors (e.g. Google, Microsoft, Oracle, etc.). The goal of JavaScript is to be the lingua franca of the web.

TypeScript is a superset of the JavaScript language that has a single open-source compiler and is developed mainly by a single vendor: Microsoft. The goal of TypeScript is to help catch mistakes early through a type system and to make JavaScript development more efficient.

Essentially TypeScript achieves its goals in three ways:

  1. Support for modern JavaScript features - The JavaScript language (not the runtime) is standardized through the ECMAScript standards. Not all browsers and JavaScript runtimes support all features of all ECMAScript standards (see this overview). TypeScript allows for the use of many of the latest ECMAScript features and translates them to older ECMAScript targets of your choosing (see the list of compile targets under the --target compiler option). This means that you can safely use new features, like modules, lambda functions, classes, the spread operator and destructuring, while remaining backwards compatible with older browsers and JavaScript runtimes.

  2. Advanced type system - The type support is not part of the ECMAScript standard and will likely never be due to the interpreted nature instead of compiled nature of JavaScript. The type system of TypeScript is incredibly rich and includes: interfaces, enums, hybrid types, generics, union/intersection types, access modifiers and much more. The official website of TypeScript gives an overview of these features. Typescript's type system is on-par with most other typed languages and in some cases arguably more powerful.

  3. Developer tooling support - TypeScript's compiler can run as a background process to support both incremental compilation and IDE integration such that you can more easily navigate, identify problems, inspect possibilities and refactor your codebase.

TypeScript's relation to other JavaScript targeting languages

TypeScript has a unique philosophy compared to other languages that compile to JavaScript. JavaScript code is valid TypeScript code; TypeScript is a superset of JavaScript. You can almost rename your .js files to .ts files and start using TypeScript (see "JavaScript interoperability" below). TypeScript files are compiled to readable JavaScript, so that migration back is possible and understanding the compiled TypeScript is not hard at all. TypeScript builds on the successes of JavaScript while improving on its weaknesses.

On the one hand, you have future proof tools that take modern ECMAScript standards and compile it down to older JavaScript versions with Babel being the most popular one. On the other hand, you have languages that may totally differ from JavaScript which target JavaScript, like CoffeeScript, Clojure, Dart, Elm, Haxe, Scala.js, and a whole host more (see this list). These languages, though they might be better than where JavaScript's future might ever lead, run a greater risk of not finding enough adoption for their futures to be guaranteed. You might also have more trouble finding experienced developers for some of these languages, though the ones you will find can often be more enthusiastic. Interop with JavaScript can also be a bit more involved, since they are farther removed from what JavaScript actually is.

TypeScript sits in between these two extremes, thus balancing the risk. TypeScript is not a risky choice by any standard. It takes very little effort to get used to if you are familiar with JavaScript, since it is not a completely different language, has excellent JavaScript interoperability support and it has seen a lot of adoption recently.

Optionally static typing and type inference

JavaScript is dynamically typed. This means JavaScript does not know what type a variable is until it is actually instantiated at run-time. This also means that it may be too late. TypeScript adds type support to JavaScript and catches type errors during compilation to JavaScript. Bugs that are caused by false assumptions of some variable being of a certain type can be completely eradicated if you play your cards right (how strict you type your code or if you type your code at all is up to you).

TypeScript makes typing a bit easier and a lot less explicit by the usage of type inference. For example: var x = "hello" in TypeScript is the same as var x : string = "hello". The type is simply inferred from its use. Even it you don't explicitly type the types, they are still there to save you from doing something which otherwise would result in a run-time error.

TypeScript is optionally typed by default. For example function divideByTwo(x) { return x / 2 } is a valid function in TypeScript which can be called with any kind of parameter, even though calling it with a string will obviously result in a runtime error. Just like you are used to in JavaScript. This works, because when no type was explicitly assigned and the type could not be inferred, like in the divideByTwo example, TypeScript will implicitly assign the type any. This means the divideByTwo function's type signature automatically becomes function divideByTwo(x : any) : any. There is a compiler flag to disallow this behavior: --noImplicitAny. Enabling this flag gives you a greater degree of safety, but also means you will have to do more typing.

Types have a cost associated with them. First of all, there is a learning curve, and second of all, of course, it will cost you a bit more time to set up a codebase using proper strict typing too. In my experience, these costs are totally worth it on any serious codebase you are sharing with others. A Large Scale Study of Programming Languages and Code Quality in Github suggests that "statically typed languages, in general, are less defect prone than the dynamic types, and that strong typing is better than weak typing in the same regard".

It is interesting to note that this very same paper finds that TypeScript is less error-prone than JavaScript:

For those with positive coefficients we can expect that the language is associated with, ceteris paribus, a greater number of defect fixes. These languages include C, C++, JavaScript, Objective-C, Php, and Python. The languages Clojure, Haskell, Ruby, Scala, and TypeScript, all have negative coefficients implying that these languages are less likely than the average to result in defect fixing commits.

Enhanced IDE support

The development experience with TypeScript is a great improvement over JavaScript. The IDE is informed in real-time by the TypeScript compiler on its rich type information. This gives a couple of major advantages. For example, with TypeScript, you can safely do refactorings like renames across your entire codebase. Through code completion, you can get inline help on whatever functions a library might offer. No more need to remember them or look them up in online references. Compilation errors are reported directly in the IDE with a red squiggly line while you are busy coding. All in all, this allows for a significant gain in productivity compared to working with JavaScript. One can spend more time coding and less time debugging.

There is a wide range of IDEs that have excellent support for TypeScript, like Visual Studio Code, WebStorm, Atom and Sublime.

Strict null checks

Runtime errors of the form cannot read property 'x' of undefined or undefined is not a function are very commonly caused by bugs in JavaScript code. Out of the box TypeScript already reduces the probability of these kinds of errors occurring, since one cannot use a variable that is not known to the TypeScript compiler (with the exception of properties of any typed variables). It is still possible though to mistakenly utilize a variable that is set to undefined. However, with the 2.0 version of TypeScript you can eliminate these kinds of errors all together through the usage of non-nullable types. This works as follows:

With strict null checks enabled (--strictNullChecks compiler flag) the TypeScript compiler will not allow undefined to be assigned to a variable unless you explicitly declare it to be of nullable type. For example, let x : number = undefined will result in a compile error. This fits perfectly with type theory since undefined is not a number. One can define x to be a sum type of number and undefined to correct this: let x : number | undefined = undefined.

Once a type is known to be nullable, meaning it is of a type that can also be of the value null or undefined, the TypeScript compiler can determine through control flow based type analysis whether or not your code can safely use a variable or not. In other words when you check a variable is undefined through for example an if statement the TypeScript compiler will infer that the type in that branch of your code's control flow is not anymore nullable and therefore can safely be used. Here is a simple example:

let x: number | undefined;
if (x !== undefined) x += 1; // this line will compile, because x is checked.
x += 1; // this line will fail compilation, because x might be undefined.

During the build, 2016 conference co-designer of TypeScript Anders Hejlsberg gave a detailed explanation and demonstration of this feature: video (from 44:30 to 56:30).

Compilation

To use TypeScript you need a build process to compile to JavaScript code. The build process generally takes only a couple of seconds depending of course on the size of your project. The TypeScript compiler supports incremental compilation (--watch compiler flag) so that all subsequent changes can be compiled at greater speed.

The TypeScript compiler can inline source map information in the generated .js files or create separate .map files. Source map information can be used by debugging utilities like the Chrome DevTools and other IDE's to relate the lines in the JavaScript to the ones that generated them in the TypeScript. This makes it possible for you to set breakpoints and inspect variables during runtime directly on your TypeScript code. Source map information works pretty well, it was around long before TypeScript, but debugging TypeScript is generally not as great as when using JavaScript directly. Take the this keyword for example. Due to the changed semantics of the this keyword around closures since ES2015, this may actually exists during runtime as a variable called _this (see this answer). This may confuse you during debugging but generally is not a problem if you know about it or inspect the JavaScript code. It should be noted that Babel suffers the exact same kind of issue.

There are a few other tricks the TypeScript compiler can do, like generating intercepting code based on decorators, generating module loading code for different module systems and parsing JSX. However, you will likely require a build tool besides the Typescript compiler. For example, if you want to compress your code you will have to add other tools to your build process to do so.

There are TypeScript compilation plugins available for Webpack, Gulp, Grunt and pretty much any other JavaScript build tool out there. The TypeScript documentation has a section on integrating with build tools covering them all. A linter is also available in case you would like even more build time checking. There are also a great number of seed projects out there that will get you started with TypeScript in combination with a bunch of other technologies like Angular 2, React, Ember, SystemJS, Webpack, Gulp, etc.

JavaScript interoperability

Since TypeScript is so closely related to JavaScript it has great interoperability capabilities, but some extra work is required to work with JavaScript libraries in TypeScript. TypeScript definitions are needed so that the TypeScript compiler understands that function calls like _.groupBy or angular.copy or $.fadeOut are not in fact illegal statements. The definitions for these functions are placed in .d.ts files.

The simplest form a definition can take is to allow an identifier to be used in any way. For example, when using Lodash, a single line definition file declare var _ : any will allow you to call any function you want on _, but then, of course, you are also still able to make mistakes: _.foobar() would be a legal TypeScript call, but is, of course, an illegal call at run-time. If you want proper type support and code completion your definition file needs to to be more exact (see lodash definitions for an example).

Npm modules that come pre-packaged with their own type definitions are automatically understood by the TypeScript compiler (see documentation). For pretty much any other semi-popular JavaScript library that does not include its own definitions somebody out there has already made type definitions available through another npm module. These modules are prefixed with "@types/" and come from a Github repository called DefinitelyTyped.

There is one caveat: the type definitions must match the version of the library you are using at run-time. If they do not, TypeScript might disallow you from calling a function or dereferencing a variable that exists or allow you to call a function or dereference a variable that does not exist, simply because the types do not match the run-time at compile-time. So make sure you load the right version of the type definitions for the right version of the library you are using.

To be honest, there is a slight hassle to this and it may be one of the reasons you do not choose TypeScript, but instead go for something like Babel that does not suffer from having to get type definitions at all. On the other hand, if you know what you are doing you can easily overcome any kind of issues caused by incorrect or missing definition files.

Converting from JavaScript to TypeScript

Any .js file can be renamed to a .ts file and ran through the TypeScript compiler to get syntactically the same JavaScript code as an output (if it was syntactically correct in the first place). Even when the TypeScript compiler gets compilation errors it will still produce a .js file. It can even accept .js files as input with the --allowJs flag. This allows you to start with TypeScript right away. Unfortunately, compilation errors are likely to occur in the beginning. One does need to remember that these are not show-stopping errors like you may be used to with other compilers.

The compilation errors one gets in the beginning when converting a JavaScript project to a TypeScript project are unavoidable by TypeScript's nature. TypeScript checks all code for validity and thus it needs to know about all functions and variables that are used. Thus type definitions need to be in place for all of them otherwise compilation errors are bound to occur. As mentioned in the chapter above, for pretty much any JavaScript framework there are .d.ts files that can easily be acquired with the installation of DefinitelyTyped packages. It might, however, be that you've used some obscure library for which no TypeScript definitions are available or that you've polyfilled some JavaScript primitives. In that case, you must supply type definitions for these bits for the compilation errors to disappear. Just create a .d.ts file and include it in the tsconfig.json's files array, so that it is always considered by the TypeScript compiler. In it declare those bits that TypeScript does not know about as type any. Once you've eliminated all errors you can gradually introduce typing to those parts according to your needs.

Some work on (re)configuring your build pipeline will also be needed to get TypeScript into the build pipeline. As mentioned in the chapter on compilation there are plenty of good resources out there and I encourage you to look for seed projects that use the combination of tools you want to be working with.

The biggest hurdle is the learning curve. I encourage you to play around with a small project at first. Look how it works, how it builds, which files it uses, how it is configured, how it functions in your IDE, how it is structured, which tools it uses, etc. Converting a large JavaScript codebase to TypeScript is doable when you know what you are doing. Read this blog for example on converting 600k lines to typescript in 72 hours). Just make sure you have a good grasp of the language before you make the jump.

Adoption

TypeScript is open-source (Apache 2 licensed, see GitHub) and backed by Microsoft. Anders Hejlsberg, the lead architect of C# is spearheading the project. It's a very active project; the TypeScript team has been releasing a lot of new features in the last few years and a lot of great ones are still planned to come (see the roadmap).

Some facts about adoption and popularity:

  • In the 2017 StackOverflow developer survey TypeScript was the most popular JavaScript transpiler (9th place overall) and won third place in the most loved programming language category.
  • In the 2018 state of js survey TypeScript was declared as one of the two big winners in the JavaScript flavors category (with ES6 being the other).
  • In the 2019 StackOverlow deverloper survey TypeScript rose to the 9th place of most popular languages amongst professional developers, overtaking both C and C++. It again took third place amongst most the most loved languages.

else & elif statements not working in Python

The problem is the blank line you are typing before the else or elif. Pay attention to the prompt you're given. If it is >>>, then Python is expecting the start of a new statement. If it is ..., then it's expecting you to continue a previous statement.

How to append rows to an R data frame

Suppose you simply don't know the size of the data.frame in advance. It can well be a few rows, or a few millions. You need to have some sort of container, that grows dynamically. Taking in consideration my experience and all related answers in SO I come with 4 distinct solutions:

  1. rbindlist to the data.frame

  2. Use data.table's fast set operation and couple it with manually doubling the table when needed.

  3. Use RSQLite and append to the table held in memory.

  4. data.frame's own ability to grow and use custom environment (which has reference semantics) to store the data.frame so it will not be copied on return.

Here is a test of all the methods for both small and large number of appended rows. Each method has 3 functions associated with it:

  • create(first_element) that returns the appropriate backing object with first_element put in.

  • append(object, element) that appends the element to the end of the table (represented by object).

  • access(object) gets the data.frame with all the inserted elements.

rbindlist to the data.frame

That is quite easy and straight-forward:

create.1<-function(elems)
{
  return(as.data.table(elems))
}

append.1<-function(dt, elems)
{
  return(rbindlist(list(dt,  elems),use.names = TRUE))
}

access.1<-function(dt)
{
  return(dt)
}

data.table::set + manually doubling the table when needed.

I will store the true length of the table in a rowcount attribute.

create.2<-function(elems)
{
  return(as.data.table(elems))
}

append.2<-function(dt, elems)
{
  n<-attr(dt, 'rowcount')
  if (is.null(n))
    n<-nrow(dt)
  if (n==nrow(dt))
  {
    tmp<-elems[1]
    tmp[[1]]<-rep(NA,n)
    dt<-rbindlist(list(dt, tmp), fill=TRUE, use.names=TRUE)
    setattr(dt,'rowcount', n)
  }
  pos<-as.integer(match(names(elems), colnames(dt)))
  for (j in seq_along(pos))
  {
    set(dt, i=as.integer(n+1), pos[[j]], elems[[j]])
  }
  setattr(dt,'rowcount',n+1)
  return(dt)
}

access.2<-function(elems)
{
  n<-attr(elems, 'rowcount')
  return(as.data.table(elems[1:n,]))
}

SQL should be optimized for fast record insertion, so I initially had high hopes for RSQLite solution

This is basically copy&paste of Karsten W. answer on similar thread.

create.3<-function(elems)
{
  con <- RSQLite::dbConnect(RSQLite::SQLite(), ":memory:")
  RSQLite::dbWriteTable(con, 't', as.data.frame(elems))
  return(con)
}

append.3<-function(con, elems)
{
  RSQLite::dbWriteTable(con, 't', as.data.frame(elems), append=TRUE)
  return(con)
}

access.3<-function(con)
{
  return(RSQLite::dbReadTable(con, "t", row.names=NULL))
}

data.frame's own row-appending + custom environment.

create.4<-function(elems)
{
  env<-new.env()
  env$dt<-as.data.frame(elems)
  return(env)
}

append.4<-function(env, elems)
{
  env$dt[nrow(env$dt)+1,]<-elems
  return(env)
}

access.4<-function(env)
{
  return(env$dt)
}

The test suite:

For convenience I will use one test function to cover them all with indirect calling. (I checked: using do.call instead of calling the functions directly doesn't makes the code run measurable longer).

test<-function(id, n=1000)
{
  n<-n-1
  el<-list(a=1,b=2,c=3,d=4)
  o<-do.call(paste0('create.',id),list(el))
  s<-paste0('append.',id)
  for (i in 1:n)
  {
    o<-do.call(s,list(o,el))
  }
  return(do.call(paste0('access.', id), list(o)))
}

Let's see the performance for n=10 insertions.

I also added a 'placebo' functions (with suffix 0) that don't perform anything - just to measure the overhead of the test setup.

r<-microbenchmark(test(0,n=10), test(1,n=10),test(2,n=10),test(3,n=10), test(4,n=10))
autoplot(r)

Timings for adding n=10 rows

Timings for n=100 rows Timings for n=1000 rows

For 1E5 rows (measurements done on Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4710HQ CPU @ 2.50GHz):

nr  function      time
4   data.frame    228.251
3   sqlite        133.716
2   data.table      3.059
1   rbindlist     169.998
0   placebo         0.202

It looks like the SQLite-based sulution, although regains some speed on large data, is nowhere near data.table + manual exponential growth. The difference is almost two orders of magnitude!

Summary

If you know that you will append rather small number of rows (n<=100), go ahead and use the simplest possible solution: just assign the rows to the data.frame using bracket notation and ignore the fact that the data.frame is not pre-populated.

For everything else use data.table::set and grow the data.table exponentially (e.g. using my code).

If statement for strings in python?

proceed = "y", "Y"
if answer in proceed:

Also, you don't want

answer = str(input("Is the information correct? Enter Y for yes or N for no"))

You want

answer = raw_input("Is the information correct? Enter Y for yes or N for no")

input() evaluates whatever is entered as a Python expression, raw_input() returns a string.

Edit: That is only true on Python 2. On Python 3, input is fine, although str() wrapping is still redundant.

Execute SQL script from command line

Take a look at the sqlcmd utility. It allows you to execute SQL from the command line.

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms162773.aspx

It's all in there in the documentation, but the syntax should look something like this:

sqlcmd -U myLogin -P myPassword -S MyServerName -d MyDatabaseName
    -Q "DROP TABLE MyTable"

Tomcat startup logs - SEVERE: Error filterStart how to get a stack trace?

Usually there is an information about the problem in localhost.[date].log. But sometimes there is nothing in this log. This can happen if there is messed configuration of the project (several developers worked on it for a long time and each added something from himself). I faced this problem WITHOUT any information in log. Rather fast and robust approach:

  1. Try to remove everything which can cause any problem from web.xml. You even can remove everything except tag. If application still cannot be deployed - go on.

  2. Remove every *.xml descriptor from WEB-INF/classes. If application cannot be deployed - go on.

  3. Remove all logging configuration you can find in your war (logging.properties, log4j.properties). Try to deploy. At this step I've got more informative error, but deployment still failed.

After googling for this error I found out that project included old version of xerces, which clashed with Tomcat's version (which was newer) and didn't the application to be deployed. After upgrade of xerces in web-application everything became fine.

Call static method with reflection

Class that will call the methods:

namespace myNamespace
{
    public class myClass
    {
        public static void voidMethodWithoutParameters()
        {
            // code here
        }
        public static string stringReturnMethodWithParameters(string param1, string param2)
        {
            // code here
            return "output";
        }
    }
}

Calling myClass static methods using Reflection:

var myClassType = Assembly.GetExecutingAssembly().GetType(GetType().Namespace + ".myClass");

// calling my void Method that has no parameters.
myClassType.GetMethod("voidMethodWithoutParameters", BindingFlags.Public | BindingFlags.Static).Invoke(null, null);

// calling my string returning Method & passing to it two string parameters.
Object methodOutput = myClassType.GetMethod("stringReturnMethodWithParameters", BindingFlags.Public | BindingFlags.Static).Invoke(null, new object[] { "value1", "value1" });
Console.WriteLine(methodOutput.ToString());

Note: I don't need to instantiate an object of myClass to use it's methods, as the methods I'm using are static.

Which HTTP methods match up to which CRUD methods?

The whole key is whether you're doing an idempotent change or not. That is, if taking action on the message twice will result in “the same” thing being there as if it was only done once, you've got an idempotent change and it should be mapped to PUT. If not, it maps to POST. If you never permit the client to synthesize URLs, PUT is pretty close to Update and POST can handle Create just fine, but that's most certainly not the only way to do it; if the client knows that it wants to create /foo/abc and knows what content to put there, it works just fine as a PUT.

The canonical description of a POST is when you're committing to purchasing something: that's an action which nobody wants to repeat without knowing it. By contrast, setting the dispatch address for the order beforehand can be done with PUT just fine: it doesn't matter if you are told to send to 6 Anywhere Dr, Nowhereville once, twice or a hundred times: it's still the same address. Does that mean that it's an update? Could be… It all depends on how you want to write the back-end. (Note that the results might not be identical: you could report back to the user when they last did a PUT as part of the representation of the resource, which would ensure that repeated PUTs do not cause an identical result, but the result would still be “the same” in a functional sense.)

What is the difference between an abstract function and a virtual function?

I have seen in some places the abstract method is defined as below. **

"An Abstract Method must have to implement in the child class"

** I felt it is like .

It is not necessary that an abstract method has to be implemented in a child class, if the child class is also abstract ..

1)An abstract method cant be a private method. 2)An Abstract method cant be implemented in the same abstract class.

I would say ..if we are implementing an abstract class, you must have to override the abstract methods from the base abstract class. Because.. Implementing the abstract method is with override key word .Similar to Virtual method.

It is not necessary for a virtual method to be implemented in an inherited class.

                                 ----------CODE--------------

public abstract class BaseClass
{
    public int MyProperty { get; set; }
    protected abstract void MyAbstractMethod();

    public virtual void MyVirtualMethod()
    {
        var x = 3 + 4;
    }

}
public abstract class myClassA : BaseClass
{
    public int MyProperty { get; set; }
    //not necessary to implement an abstract method if the child class is also abstract.

    protected override void MyAbstractMethod()
    {
        throw new NotImplementedException();
    }
}
public class myClassB : BaseClass
{
    public int MyProperty { get; set; }
    //You must have to implement the abstract method since this class is not an abstract class.

    protected override void MyAbstractMethod()
    {
        throw new NotImplementedException();
    }
}

Calculating Pearson correlation and significance in Python

Rather than rely on numpy/scipy, I think my answer should be the easiest to code and understand the steps in calculating the Pearson Correlation Coefficient (PCC) .

import math

# calculates the mean
def mean(x):
    sum = 0.0
    for i in x:
         sum += i
    return sum / len(x)

# calculates the sample standard deviation
def sampleStandardDeviation(x):
    sumv = 0.0
    for i in x:
         sumv += (i - mean(x))**2
    return math.sqrt(sumv/(len(x)-1))

# calculates the PCC using both the 2 functions above
def pearson(x,y):
    scorex = []
    scorey = []

    for i in x:
        scorex.append((i - mean(x))/sampleStandardDeviation(x))

    for j in y:
        scorey.append((j - mean(y))/sampleStandardDeviation(y))

# multiplies both lists together into 1 list (hence zip) and sums the whole list
    return (sum([i*j for i,j in zip(scorex,scorey)]))/(len(x)-1)

The significance of PCC is basically to show you how strongly correlated the two variables/lists are. It is important to note that the PCC value ranges from -1 to 1. A value between 0 to 1 denotes a positive correlation. Value of 0 = highest variation (no correlation whatsoever). A value between -1 to 0 denotes a negative correlation.

Configure Log4net to write to multiple files

Vinay is correct. In answer to your comment in his answer, one way you can do it is as follows:

<root>
    <level value="ALL" />
    <appender-ref ref="File1Appender" />
</root>
<logger name="SomeName">
    <level value="ALL" />
    <appender-ref ref="File1Appender2" />
</logger>

This is how I have done it in the past. Then something like this for the other log:

private static readonly ILog otherLog = LogManager.GetLogger("SomeName");

And you can get your normal logger as follows:

private static readonly ILog log = LogManager.GetLogger(MethodBase.GetCurrentMethod().DeclaringType);

Read the loggers and appenders section of the documentation to understand how this works.

How to calculate 1st and 3rd quartiles?

I also faced a similar problem when trying to find a package that finds quartiles. That's not to say the others are wrong but to say this is how I personally would have defined quartiles. It is similar to Shikar's results with using mid-point but also works on lists that have an odd length. If the quartile position is between lengths, it will use the average of the neighbouring values. (i.e. position always treated as either the exact position or 0.5 of the position)

import math

def find_quartile_postions(size):
    if size == 1:
        # All quartiles are the first (only) element
        return 0, 0, 0
    elif size == 2:
        # Lower quartile is first element, Upper quartile is second element, Median is average
        # Set to 0.5, 0.5, 0.5 if you prefer all quartiles to be the mean value
        return 0, 0.5, 1
    else:
        # Lower quartile is element at 1/4th position, median at 1/2th, upper at 3/4
        # Quartiles can be between positions if size + 1 is not divisible by 4

"UnboundLocalError: local variable referenced before assignment" after an if statement

Before I start, I'd like to note that I can't actually test this since your script reads data from a file that I don't have.

'T' is defined in a local scope for the declared function. In the first instance 'T' is assigned the value of 'data[2]' because the conditional statement above apparently evaluates to True. Since the second call to the function causes the 'UnboundLocalError' exception to occur, the local variable 'T' is getting set and the conditional assignment is never getting triggered.

Since you appear to want to return the first bit of data in the file that matches your conditonal statement, you might want to modify you function to look like this:

def temp_sky(lreq, breq):
    for line in tfile:
        data = line.split()
        if ( abs(float(data[0]) - lreq) <= 0.1 and abs(float(data[1]) - breq) <= 0.1):
            return data[2]
    return None

That way the desired value gets returned when it is found, and 'None' is returned when no matching data is found.

  1. is called before the controller and link function.
  2. In compile function, you have the original template DOM so you can make changes on original DOM before AngularJS creates an instance of it and before a scope is created
  3. ng-repeat is perfect example - original syntax is template element, the repeated elements in HTML are instances
  4. There can be multiple element instances and only one template element
  5. Scope is not available yet
  6. Compile function can return function and object
  7. returning a (post-link) function - is equivalent to registering the linking function via the link property of the config object when the compile function is empty.
  8. returning an object with function(s) registered via pre and post properties - allows you to control when a linking function should be called during the linking phase. See info about pre-linking and post-linking functions below.

syntax

function compile(tElement, tAttrs, transclude) { ... }

controller

  1. called after the compile function
  2. scope is available here
  3. can be accessed by other directives (see require attribute)

pre - link

  1. The link function is responsible for registering DOM listeners as well as updating the DOM. It is executed after the template has been cloned. This is where most of the directive logic will be put.

  2. You can update the dom in the controller using angular.element but this is not recommended as the element is provided in the link function

  3. Pre-link function is used to implement logic that runs when angular js has already compiled the child elements but before any of the child element's post link have been called

post-link

  1. directive that only has link function, angular treats the function as a post link

  2. post will be executed after compile, controller and pre-link funciton, so that's why this is considered the safest and default place to add your directive logic

How do I run a simple bit of code in a new thread?

How to: Use a Background Thread to Search for Files

You have to be very carefull with access from other threads to GUI specific stuff (it is common for many GUI toolkits). If you want to update something in GUI from processing thread check this answer that I think is useful for WinForms. For WPF see this (it shows how to touch component in UpdateProgress() method so it will work from other threads, but actually I don't like it is not doing CheckAccess() before doing BeginInvoke through Dispathcer, see and search for CheckAccess in it)

Was looking .NET specific book on threading and found this one (free downloadable). See http://www.albahari.com/threading/ for more details about it.

I believe you will find what you need to launch execution as new thread in first 20 pages and it has many more (not sure about GUI specific snippets I mean strictly specific to threading). Would be glad to hear what community thinks about this work 'cause I'm reading this one. For now looked pretty neat for me (for showing .NET specific methods and types for threading). Also it covers .NET 2.0 (and not ancient 1.1) what I really appreciate.

How can I make IntelliJ IDEA update my dependencies from Maven?

For some reason IntelliJ (at least in version 2019.1.2) ignores dependencies in local .m2 directory. None of above solutions worked for me. The only thing finally forced IntelliJ to discover local dependencies was:

  1. Close project
  2. Open project clicking on pom.xml (not on a project directory)
  3. Click Open as Project

List item

  1. Click Delete Existing Project and Import

TLDR; Uninstall and re-install using admin account.

I encountered this error after installing Oracle Express 11g 64 bit using a standard account. After looking for a fix on various sites I realized that the issue was most likely caused by an incorrect setting. Different people suggested editing various files which I was not interested in doing. I found one person who claimed that the issue was a registry setting. Since I used a standard account to install I thought that maybe the registry setting could not be altered using a standard account. So I uninstalled and re-installed using an admin account and it just worked.

How to find patterns across multiple lines using grep?

I released a grep alternative a few days ago that does support this directly, either via multiline matching or using conditions - hopefully it is useful for some people searching here. This is what the commands for the example would look like:

Multiline:

sift -lm 'abc.*efg' testfile

Conditions:

sift -l 'abc' testfile --followed-by 'efg'

You could also specify that 'efg' has to follow 'abc' within a certain number of lines:

sift -l 'abc' testfile --followed-within 5:'efg'

You can find more information on sift-tool.org.

Handling JSON Post Request in Go

I like to define custom structs locally. So:

// my handler func
func addImage(w http.ResponseWriter, r *http.Request) {

    // define custom type
    type Input struct {
        Url        string  `json:"url"`
        Name       string  `json:"name"`
        Priority   int8    `json:"priority"`
    }

    // define a var
    var input Input

    // decode input or return error
    err := json.NewDecoder(r.Body).Decode(&input)
    if err != nil {
        w.WriteHeader(400)
        fmt.Fprintf(w, "Decode error! please check your JSON formating.")
        return
    }

    // print user inputs
    fmt.Fprintf(w, "Inputed name: %s", input.Name)

}

Clearing an input text field in Angular2

1. First Method

you have to assign null or empty string here

this.searchValue = null;
//or
this.searchValue = ' ';

Working Plunker

because no event is being fired from angular change detection. so you have to assign some value either null or string with space

2. Second Method

  • use of [(ngModel)] it should work with ngModel.

why ?

because as you did binding with value attribute which is only property binding not event binding. so angular doesn't run change detection because no event relevant to Angular is fired. If you bind to an event then Angular runs change detection and the binding works and value should be changes.

see working example of same with ngModel

Working Example with ngModel

How to create a thread?

public class ThreadParameter
        {
            public int Port { get; set; }
            public string Path { get; set; }
        }

Thread t = new Thread(new ParameterizedThreadStart(Startup));
t.Start(new ThreadParameter() { Port = port, Path = path});

Create an object with the port and path objects and pass it to the Startup method.

Getting value of selected item in list box as string

string textValue = ((ListBoxItem)listBox1.SelectedItem).Content.ToString();

MySQL IF ELSEIF in select query

IF() in MySQL is a ternary function, not a control structure -- if the condition in the first argument is true, it returns the second argument; otherwise, it returns the third argument. There is no corresponding ELSEIF() function or END IF keyword.

The closest equivalent to what you've got would be something like:

IF(qty_1<='23', price,
  IF('23'>qty_1 && qty_2<='23', price_2,
    IF('23'>qty_2 && qty_3<='23', price_3,
      IF('23'>qty_3, price_4, 1)
    )
  )
)

The conditions don't all make sense to me (it looks as though some of them may be inadvertently reversed?), but without knowing what exactly you're trying to accomplish, it's hard for me to fix that.

How do I read input character-by-character in Java?

Wrap your reader in a BufferedReader, which maintains a buffer allowing for much faster reads overall. You can then use read() to read a single character (which you'll need to cast). You can also use readLine() to fetch an entire line and then break that into individual characters. The BufferedReader also supports marking and returning, so if you need to, you can read a line multiple times.

Generally speaking, you want to use a BufferedReader or BufferedInputStream on top of whatever stream you are actually using since the buffer they maintain will make multiple reads much faster.

How to overload functions in javascript?

For this you need to create a function that adds the function to an object, then it will execute depending on the amount of arguments you send to the function:

<script >
//Main function to add the methods
function addMethod(object, name, fn) {
  var old = object[name];
  object[name] = function(){
    if (fn.length == arguments.length)
      return fn.apply(this, arguments)
    else if (typeof old == 'function')
      return old.apply(this, arguments);
  };
}

?  var ninjas = {
   values: ["Dean Edwards", "Sam Stephenson", "Alex Russell"]
};

//Here we declare the first function with no arguments passed
  addMethod(ninjas, "find", function(){
    return this.values;
});

//Second function with one argument
  addMethod(ninjas, "find", function(name){
    var ret = [];
    for (var i = 0; i < this.values.length; i++)
      if (this.values[i].indexOf(name) == 0)
        ret.push(this.values[i]);
    return ret;
  });

//Third function with two arguments
  addMethod(ninjas, "find", function(first, last){
    var ret = [];
    for (var i = 0; i < this.values.length; i++)
      if (this.values[i] == (first + " " + last))
        ret.push(this.values[i]);
    return ret;
  });

//Now you can do:
ninjas.find();
ninjas.find("Sam");
ninjas.find("Dean", "Edwards")
</script>

Is it possible to use pip to install a package from a private GitHub repository?

If you want to install dependencies from a requirements file within a CI server or alike, you can do this:

git config --global credential.helper 'cache'
echo "protocol=https
host=example.com
username=${GIT_USER}
password=${GIT_PASS}
" | git credential approve
pip install -r requirements.txt

In my case, I used GIT_USER=gitlab-ci-token and GIT_PASS=${CI_JOB_TOKEN}.

This method has a clear advantage. You have a single requirements file which contains all of your dependencies.

Search for all occurrences of a string in a mysql database

SQLyog is GUI based solution to the problem of data search across all columns, tables and databases. One can customize search restricting it to field, table and databases.

In its Data Search feature one can search for strings just like one uses Google.

What is a database transaction?

Transaction can be defined as a collection of task that are considered as minimum processing unit. Each minimum processing unit can not be divided further.

The main operation of a transaction are read and write.

All transaction must contain four properties that commonly known as ACID properties for the purpose of ensuring accuracy , completeness and data integrity.

Using sessions & session variables in a PHP Login Script

here is the simplest session code using php. We are using 3 files.

{
     $user = $_POST['user'];
     $pass = $_POST['pass'];

      if($user == "Ank" && $pass == "1234")  // username is  set to "Ank"  and Password
         {                                   // is 1234 by default

          $_SESSION['use']=$user;

Prevent Bootstrap Modal from disappearing when clicking outside or pressing escape?

This code will prevent the modal from closing if you click outside the modal.

    $('#myModal').modal({
           backdrop: 'static',
           keyboard: false
    })

Resolve Git merge conflicts in favor of their changes during a pull

from https://git-scm.com/book/en/v2/Git-Tools-Advanced-Merging

This will basically do a fake merge. It will record a new merge commit with both branches as parents, but it will not even look at the branch you’re merging in. It will simply record as the result of the merge the exact code in your current branch.

$ git merge -s ours mundo

Merge made by the 'ours' strategy.

$ git diff HEAD HEAD~

You can see that there is no difference between the branch we were on and the result of the merge.

This can often be useful to basically trick Git into thinking that a branch is already merged when doing a merge later on. For example, say you branched off a release branch and have done some work on it that you will want to merge back into your master branch at some point. In the meantime some bugfix on master needs to be backported into your release branch. You can merge the bugfix branch into the release branch and also merge -s ours the same branch into your master branch (even though the fix is already there) so when you later merge the release branch again, there are no conflicts from the bugfix.

A situation I've found to be useful if I want master to reflect the changes of a new topic branch. I've noticed that -Xtheirs doesn't merge without conflicts in some circumstances... e.g.

$ git merge -Xtheirs topicFoo

CONFLICT (modify/delete): js/search.js deleted in HEAD and modified in topicFoo. Version topicFoo of js/search.js left in tree.

In this case the solution I found was

$ git checkout topicFoo

from topicFoo, first merge in master using the -s ours strategy, this will create the fake commit that is just the state of topicFoo. $ git merge -s ours master

check the created merge commit

$ git log

now checkout the master branch

$ git checkout master

merge the topic branch back but this time use the -Xtheirs recursive strategy, this will now present you with a master branch with the state of topicFoo.

$ git merge -X theirs topicFoo

Resolve host name to an ip address

Try tracert to resolve the hostname. IE you have Ip address 8.8.8.8 so you would use; tracert 8.8.8.8

Appropriate datatype for holding percent values?

If 2 decimal places is your level of precision, then a "smallint" would handle this in the smallest space (2-bytes). You store the percent multiplied by 100.

EDIT: The decimal type is probably a better match. Then you don't need to manually scale. It takes 5 bytes per value.

fs/promises and fs.Dirent

Here's an efficient, non-blocking ls program using Node's fast fs.Dirent objects and fs/promises module. This approach allows you to skip wasteful fs.exist or fs.stat calls on every path -

// main.js
import { readdir } from "fs/promises"
import { join } from "path"

async function* ls (path = ".")
{ yield path
  for (const dirent of await readdir(path, { withFileTypes: true }))
    if (dirent.isDirectory())
      yield* ls(join(path, dirent.name))
    else
      yield join(path, dirent.name)
}

async function* empty () {}

async function toArray (iter = empty())
{ let r = []
  for await (const x of iter)
    r.push(x)
  return r
}

toArray(ls(".")).then(console.log, console.error)

Let's get some sample files so we can see ls working -

$ yarn add immutable # (just some example package)
$ node main.js
[
  '.',
  'main.js',
  'node_modules',
  'node_modules/.yarn-integrity',

How can I use delay() with show() and hide() in Jquery

Why don't you try the fadeIn() instead of using a show() with delay(). I think what you are trying to do can be done with this. Here is the jQuery code for fadeIn and FadeOut() which also has inbuilt method for delaying the process.

$(document).ready(function(){
   $('element').click(function(){
      //effects take place in 3000ms
      $('element_to_hide').fadeOut(3000);
      $('element_to_show').fadeIn(3000);

java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError: Bad version number in .class file?

Did you compile with Eclipse? It uses a different compiler (not javac). That should not result in this error (if everything is configured properly), but you can try to compile it with javac instead.

If that fixed the problem, try to see if Eclipse has some incorrect compiler settings. Specifically have it target Java 5.

For Visual Studio 2010 (prolly also for other versions):

If you are opening an ASP.NET MVC project make sure that the correct MVC version is installed on your PC. If you try to open an ASP.NET MVC 3 project, first close all your visual studio instances and install MVC3: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=1491

Find Active Tab using jQuery and Twitter Bootstrap

First of all you need to remove the data-toggle attribute. We will use some JQuery, so make sure you include it.

  <ul class='nav nav-tabs'>

Where and why do I have to put the "template" and "typename" keywords?

typedef typename Tail::inUnion<U> dummy;

However, I'm not sure you're implementation of inUnion is correct. If I understand correctly, this class is not supposed to be instantiated, therefore the "fail" tab will never avtually fails. Maybe it would be better to indicates whether the type is in the union or not with a simple boolean value.

template <typename T, typename TypeList> struct Contains;

template <typename T, typename Head, typename Tail>
struct Contains<T, UnionNode<Head, Tail> >
{
    enum { result = Contains<T, Tail>::result };
};

template <typename T, typename Tail>
struct Contains<T, UnionNode<T, Tail> >
{
    enum { result = true };
};

template <typename T>
struct Contains<T, void>
{
    enum { result = false };
};

The normal conversion skips the zeros and the form field does not show the value and puts forth an error in the console saying the format needs to be yyyy-mm-dd.

Hence I added a small statement (check)?(true):(false) as follows:

makeShortDate=(date)=>{
yy=date.getFullYear()
mm=date.getMonth()
dd=date.getDate()
shortDate=`${yy}-${(mm<10)?0:''}${mm+1}-${(dd<10)?0:''}${dd}`;
return shortDate;
}

How to split a comma-separated string?

A small improvement: above solutions will not remove leading or trailing spaces in the actual String. It's better to call trim before calling split. Instead of this,

 String[] animalsArray = animals.split("\\s*,\\s*");

use

 String[] animalsArray = animals.trim().split("\\s*,\\s*");

Android Studio Google JAR file causing GC overhead limit exceeded error

I tried all the solutions mentioned above, but I was still facing the issue. Finally I stumbled upon the following which resolved the issue.

(On MacOS) Went to Preferences -> Memory Settings -> Find existing grade demon(s) -> Stopped all of them.

Set specific precision of a BigDecimal

Try this code ...

    Integer perc = 5;
    BigDecimal spread = BigDecimal.ZERO;
    BigDecimal perc = spread.setScale(perc,BigDecimal.ROUND_HALF_UP);
    System.out.println(perc);

Result: 0.00000

How do I remove quotes from a string?

str_replace('"', "", $string);
str_replace("'", "", $string);

I assume you mean quotation marks?

Otherwise, go for some regex, this will work for html quotes for example:

preg_replace("/<!--.*?-->/", "", $string);

C-style quotes:

preg_replace("/\/\/.*?\n/", "\n", $string);

CSS-style quotes:

preg_replace("/\/*.*?\*\//", "", $string);

bash-style quotes:

preg-replace("/#.*?\n/", "\n", $string);

Etc etc...

Generate a unique id

If you want to use sha-256 (guid would be faster) then you would need to do something like

SHA256 shaAlgorithm = new SHA256Managed();
byte[] shaDigest = shaAlgorithm.ComputeHash(ASCIIEncoding.ASCII.GetBytes(url));
return BitConverter.ToString(shaDigest);

Of course, it doesn't have to ascii and it can be any other kind of hashing algorithm as well

Redirecting unauthorized controller in ASP.NET MVC

Create a custom authorization attribute based on AuthorizeAttribute and override OnAuthorization to perform the check how you want it done. Normally, AuthorizeAttribute will set the filter result to HttpUnauthorizedResult if the authorization check fails. You could have it set it to a ViewResult (of your Error view) instead.

EDIT: I have a couple of blog posts that go into more detail:

Example:

    [AttributeUsage( AttributeTargets.Class | AttributeTargets.Method, Inherited = true, AllowMultiple = false )]
    public class MasterEventAuthorizationAttribute : AuthorizeAttribute
    {
        /// <summary>
        /// The name of the master page or view to use when rendering the view on authorization failure. Default
        /// is null, indicating to use the master page of the specified view.
        /// </summary>
        public virtual string MasterName { get; set; }

        /// <summary>
        /// The name of the view to render on authorization failure. Default is "Error".
        /// </summary>
        public virtual string ViewName { get; set; }

        public MasterEventAuthorizationAttribute()
            : base()
        {
            this.ViewName = "Error";
        }

        protected void CacheValidateHandler( HttpContext context, object data, ref HttpValidationStatus validationStatus )
        {
            validationStatus = OnCacheAuthorization( new HttpContextWrapper( context ) );
        }

        public override void OnAuthorization( AuthorizationContext filterContext )
        {
            if (filterContext == null)
            {
                throw new ArgumentNullException( "filterContext" );
            }

            if (AuthorizeCore( filterContext.HttpContext ))
            {
                SetCachePolicy( filterContext );
            }
            else if (!filterContext.HttpContext.User.Identity.IsAuthenticated)
            {
                // auth failed, redirect to login page
                filterContext.Result = new HttpUnauthorizedResult();
            }
            else if (filterContext.HttpContext.User.IsInRole( "SuperUser" ))
            {
                // is authenticated and is in the SuperUser role
                SetCachePolicy( filterContext );

                viewData.Add( "Message", "You do not have sufficient privileges for this operation." );
                filterContext.Result = new ViewResult { MasterName = this.MasterName, ViewName = this.ViewName, ViewData = viewData };
            }

        }

        protected void SetCachePolicy( AuthorizationContext filterContext )
        {
            // ** IMPORTANT **
            // Since we're performing authorization at the action level, the authorization code runs
            // after the output caching module. In the worst case this could allow an authorized user
            // to cause the page to be cached, then an unauthorized user would later be served the
            // cached page. We work around this by telling proxies not to cache the sensitive page,
            // then we hook our custom authorization code into the caching mechanism so that we have
            // the final say on whether a page should be served from the cache.
            HttpCachePolicyBase cachePolicy = filterContext.HttpContext.Response.Cache;

unexpected T_ENCAPSED_AND_WHITESPACE, expecting T_STRING or T_VARIABLE or T_NUM_STRING error

In my case, heredoc caused the issue. There is no problem with PHP version 7.3 up. Howerver, it error with PHP 7.0.33 if you use heredoc with space.

My example code

$rexpenditure = <<<Expenditure
                  <tr>
                      <td>$row->payment_referencenumber</td>
                      <td>$row->payment_requestdate</td>
                      <td>$row->payment_description</td>
                      <td>$row->payment_fundingsource</td>
                      <td>$row->payment_agencyulo</td>
                      <td>$row->payment_agencyproject</td>
                      <td>$$row->payment_disbustment</td>
                      <td>$row->payment_payeename</td>
                      <td>$row->payment_processpayment</td>
                  </tr>
Expenditure;

It will error if there is a space on PHP 7.0.33.

Increment a database field by 1

Updating an entry:

A simple increment should do the trick.

UPDATE mytable
  SET logins = logins + 1
  WHERE id = 12

Insert new row, or Update if already present:

If you would like to update a previously existing row, or insert it if it doesn't already exist, you can use the REPLACE syntax or the INSERT...ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE option (As Rob Van Dam demonstrated in his answer).

Inserting a new entry:

Or perhaps you're looking for something like INSERT...MAX(logins)+1? Essentially you'd run a query much like the following - perhaps a bit more complex depending on your specific needs:

INSERT into mytable (logins)
  SELECT max(logins) + 1
  FROM mytable

How do I put the image on the right side of the text in a UIButton?

Finally I got the perfect result what I want.

Here is my code.

self.semanticContentAttribute = .forceRightToLeft
self.contentHorizontalAlignment = .left

self.imageView?.translatesAutoresizingMaskIntoConstraints = false
self.imageView?.centerYAnchor.constraint(equalTo: self.centerYAnchor, constant: 0.0).isActive = true
self.imageView?.leadingAnchor.constraint(equalTo: self.leadingAnchor, constant: 0.0).isActive = true

This code makes right text/left image button without any padding.

Capturing multiple line output into a Bash variable

Another pitfall with this is that command substitution$() — strips trailing newlines. Probably not always important, but if you really want to preserve exactly what was output, you'll have to use another line and some quoting:

RESULTX="$(./myscript; echo x)"
RESULT="${RESULTX%x}"

This is especially important if you want to handle all possible filenames (to avoid undefined behavior like operating on the wrong file).

How can I show/hide a specific alert with twitter bootstrap?

I had this problem today, was in a lot of time crunch, so below idea worked:

  • setTimeout with 1 sec -- call a function that shows the div
  • setTimeout with 10 sec -- call a function that hides the div

Fade is not there, but that bootstrap feeling will be there.

Hope that helps.

Iterating through struct fieldnames in MATLAB

You have to use curly braces ({}) to access fields, since the fieldnames function returns a cell array of strings:

for i = 1:numel(fields)
  teststruct.(fields{i})
end

Using parentheses to access data in your cell array will just return another cell array, which is displayed differently from a character array:

>> fields(1) % Get the first cell of the cell array

ans =

    'a' % This is how the 1-element cell array is displayed

>> fields{1} % Get the contents of the first cell of the cell array

ans =

a % This is how the single character is displayed

Producing a new line in XSLT

My favoured method for doing this looks something like:

<xsl:stylesheet>

<xsl:output method='text'/>

<xsl:variable name='newline'><xsl:text>
</xsl:text></xsl:variable>

<!-- note that the layout there is deliberate -->

...

</xsl:stylesheet>

Then, whenever you want to output a newline (perhaps in csv) you can output something like the following:

<xsl:value-of select="concat(elem1,elem2,elem3,$newline)" />

I've used this technique when outputting sql from xml input. In fact, I tend to create variables for commas, quotes and newlines.

In SSRS, why do I get the error "item with same key has already been added" , when I'm making a new report?

I just got this error and i came to know that it is about the local variable alias

at the end of the stored procedure i had like

select @localvariable1,@localvariable2

it was working fine in sql but when i ran this in ssrs it was always throwing error but after I gave alias it is fixed

select @localvariable1 as A,@localvariable2 as B

Printing column separated by comma using Awk command line

Try this awk

awk -F, '{$0=$3}1' file
column3
  • , Divide fields by ,
  • $0=$3 Set the line to only field 3
  • 1 Print all out. (explained here)

This could also be used:

awk -F, '{print $3}' file

How can I prevent the backspace key from navigating back?

This solution is similar to others that have been posted, but it uses a simple whitelist making it easily customizable to allow the backspace in specified elements just by setting the selector in the .is() function.

I use it in this form to prevent the backspace on pages from navigating back:

$(document).on("keydown", function (e) {
    if (e.which === 8 && !$(e.target).is("input:not([readonly]), textarea")) {
        e.preventDefault();
    }
});

How do you force a CIFS connection to unmount

Try umount -f /mnt/share. Works OK with NFS, never tried with cifs.

Also, take a look at autofs, it will mount the share only when accessed, and will unmount it afterworlds.

Removing border from table cells

You might want to try this: http://jsfiddle.net/QPKVX/

Angular Material: mat-select not selecting default

I'm using Angular 5 and reactive forms with mat-select and couldn't get either of the above solutions to display the initial value.

I had to add [compareWith] to deal with the different types being used within the mat-select component. Internally, it appears mat-select uses an array to hold the selected value. This is likely to allow the same code to work with multiple selections if that mode is turned on.

Angular Select Control Doc

Here's my solution:

Form Builder to initialize the form control:

this.formGroup = this.fb.group({
    country: new FormControl([ this.myRecord.country.id ] ),
    ...
});

Then implement the compareWith function on your component:

compareIds(id1: any, id2: any): boolean {
    const a1 = determineId(id1);
    const a2 = determineId(id2);
    return a1 === a2;
}

Next create and export the determineId function (I had to create a standalone function so mat-select could use it):

export function determineId(id: any): string {
    if (id.constructor.name === 'array' && id.length > 0) {
       return '' + id[0];
    }
    return '' + id;
}

Finally add the compareWith attribute to your mat-select:

<mat-form-field hintLabel="select one">
<mat-select placeholder="Country" formControlName="country"
    [compareWith]="compareIds">

    <mat-option>None</mat-option>
    <mat-option *ngFor="let country of countries" [value]="country.id">
                        {{ country.name }}
    </mat-option>
</mat-select>
</mat-form-field>

How to implement my very own URI scheme on Android

This is very possible; you define the URI scheme in your AndroidManifest.xml, using the <data> element. You setup an intent filter with the <data> element filled out, and you'll be able to create your own scheme. (More on intent filters and intent resolution here.)

Here's a short example:

<activity android:name=".MyUriActivity">
    <intent-filter>
        <action android:name="android.intent.action.VIEW" />
        <category android:name="android.intent.category.DEFAULT" />
        <category android:name="android.intent.category.BROWSABLE" />
        <data android:scheme="myapp" android:host="path" />
    </intent-filter>
</activity>

As per how implicit intents work, you need to define at least one action and one category as well; here I picked VIEW as the action (though it could be anything), and made sure to add the DEFAULT category (as this is required for all implicit intents). Also notice how I added the category BROWSABLE - this is not necessary, but it will allow your URIs to be openable from the browser (a nifty feature).

Android WebView, how to handle redirects in app instead of opening a browser

Create a class that implements webviewclient and add the following code that allows ovveriding the url string as shown below. You can see these [example][1]

public class myWebClient extends WebViewClient {

    @Override
    public boolean shouldOverrideUrlLoading(WebView view, String url) {
         view.loadUrl(url);
         return true;
     }
}

On your constructor, create a webview object as shown below.

   web = new WebView(this); web.setLayoutParams(new ViewGroup.LayoutParams(ViewGroup.LayoutParams.MATCH_PARENT, ViewGroup.LayoutParams.FILL_PARENT));

Then add the following code to perform loading of urls inside your app

       WebSettings settings=web.getSettings();
    settings.setJavaScriptEnabled(true);

    web.loadUrl("http://www.facebook.com");
    web.setWebViewClient(new myWebClient());

 web.setWebChromeClient(new WebChromeClient() {
      //
      //
    }

Fastest Convert from Collection to List<T>

What's the difference between a method and a function?

A method is on an object.
A function is independent of an object.

For Java and C#, there are only methods.
For C, there are only functions.

For C++ and Python it would depend on whether or not you're in a class.

How to find which views are using a certain table in SQL Server (2008)?

To find table dependencies you can use the sys.sql_expression_dependencies catalog view:

SELECT
referencing_object_name = o.name,
referencing_object_type_desc = o.type_desc,
referenced_object_name = referenced_entity_name,
referenced_object_type_desc =so1.type_desc
FROM sys.sql_expression_dependencies sed
INNER JOIN sys.views o ON sed.referencing_id = o.object_id
LEFT OUTER JOIN sys.views so1 ON sed.referenced_id =so1.object_id
WHERE referenced_entity_name = 'Person'

You can also try out ApexSQL Search a free SSMS and VS add-in that also has the View Dependencies feature. The View Dependencies feature has the ability to visualize all SQL database objects’ relationships, including those between encrypted and system objects, SQL server 2012 specific objects, and objects stored in databases encrypted with Transparent Data Encryption (TDE)

Format a BigDecimal as String with max 2 decimal digits, removing 0 on decimal part

I used DecimalFormat for formatting the BigDecimal instead of formatting the String, seems no problems with it.

The code is something like this:

bd = bd.setScale(2, BigDecimal.ROUND_DOWN);

DecimalFormat df = new DecimalFormat();

df.setMaximumFractionDigits(2);

df.setMinimumFractionDigits(0);

df.setGroupingUsed(false);

String result = df.format(bd);

You can use indexOf But not working well in the last version of internet explorer. Code:

function isInArray(value, array) {
  return array.indexOf(value) > -1;
}

Execution:

 var length = haystack.length;
 for (var i = 0; i < length; i++) {
 if (haystack[i] == needle)
  return true;
 }

How can I split a JavaScript string by white space or comma?

input.split(/\s*[\s,]\s*/)

\s* matches zero or more white space characters (not just spaces, but also tabs and newlines).

... [\s,] matches one white space character or one comma

If you want to avoid blank elements from input like "foo,bar,,foobar", this will do the trick:

input.split(/(\s*,?\s*)+/)

The + matches one or more of the preceding character or group.

Edit:

Added ?after comma which matches zero or one comma.

Edit 2:

Turns out edit 1 was a mistake. Fixed it. Now there has to be at least one comma or one space for the expression to find a match.

How to easily map c++ enums to strings

I recently had the same issue with a vendor library (Fincad). Fortunately, the vendor provided xml doucumentation for all the enums. I ended up generating a map for each enum type and providing a lookup function for each enum. This technique also allows you to intercept a lookup outside the range of the enum.

I'm sure swig could do something similar for you, but I'm happy to provide the code generation utils which are written in ruby.

Here is a sample of the code:

std::map<std::string, switches::FCSW2::type> init_FCSW2_map() {
        std::map<std::string, switches::FCSW2::type> ans;
        ans["Act365Fixed"] = FCSW2::Act365Fixed;
        ans["actual/365 (fixed)"] = FCSW2::Act365Fixed;
        ans["Act360"] = FCSW2::Act360;
        ans["actual/360"] = FCSW2::Act360;
        ans["Act365Act"] = FCSW2::Act365Act;
        ans["actual/365 (actual)"] = FCSW2::Act365Act;
        ans["ISDA30360"] = FCSW2::ISDA30360;
        ans["30/360 (ISDA)"] = FCSW2::ISDA30360;
        ans["ISMA30E360"] = FCSW2::ISMA30E360;
        ans["30E/360 (30/360 ISMA)"] = FCSW2::ISMA30E360;
        return ans;
}
switches::FCSW2::type FCSW2_lookup(const char* fincad_switch) {
        static std::map<std::string, switches::FCSW2::type> switch_map = init_FCSW2_map();
        std::map<std::string, switches::FCSW2::type>::iterator it = switch_map.find(fincad_switch);
        if(it != switch_map.end()) {
                return it->second;
        } else {
                throw FCSwitchLookupError("Bad Match: FCSW2");
        }
}

Seems like you want to go the other way (enum to string, rather than string to enum), but this should be trivial to reverse.

How do I insert multiple checkbox values into a table?

You should specify

<input type="checkbox" name="Days[]" value="Daily">Daily<br>

as array.

Add [] to all names Days and work at php with this like an array.

After it, you can INSERT values at different columns at db, or use implode and save values into one column.

Didn't tested it, but you can try like this. Don't forget to replace mysql with mysqli.

<html>
<body>
<form method="post" action="chk123.php">
Flights on: <br/>
<input type="checkbox" name="Days[]" value="Daily">Daily<br>
<input type="checkbox" name="Days[]" value="Sunday">Sunday<br>
<input type="checkbox" name="Days[]" value="Monday">Monday<br>
<input type="checkbox" name="Days[]" value="Tuesday">Tuesday <br>
<input type="checkbox" name="Days[]" value="Wednesday">Wednesday<br>
<input type="checkbox" name="Days[]" value="Thursday">Thursday <br>
<input type="checkbox" name="Days[]" value="Friday">Friday<br>
<input type="checkbox" name="Days[]" value="Saturday">Saturday <br>
<input type="submit" name="submit" value="submit">
</form>
</body>
</html>

<?php

// Make a MySQL Connection
mysql_connect("localhost", "root", "") or die(mysql_error());
mysql_select_db("test") or die(mysql_error());

$checkBox = implode(',', $_POST['Days']);

if(isset($_POST['submit']))
{
    $query="INSERT INTO example (orange) VALUES ('" . $checkBox . "')";

    mysql_query($query) or die (mysql_error() );

    echo "Complete";

}

?>

Is there a color code for transparent in HTML?

Here, instead of making navigation bar transparent, remove any color attributes from the navigation bar to make the background visible.

Strangely, I came across this thinking that I needed a transparent color, but all I needed is to remove the color attributes.

.some-class{
    background-color: #fafafa;
}

to

.some-class{
}

Adding Jar files to IntellijIdea classpath

If, as I just encountered, you happen to have a jar file listed in the Project Structures->Libraries that is not in your classpath, the correct answer can be found by following the link given by @CrazyCoder above: Look here http://www.jetbrains.com/idea/webhelp/configuring-module-dependencies-and-libraries.html

This says that to add the jar file as a module dependency within the Project Structure dialog:

  1. Open Project Structure
  2. Select Modules, then click on the module for which you want the dependency
  3. Choose the Dependencies tab
  4. Click the '+' at the bottom of the page and choose the appropriate way to connect to the library file. If the jar file is already listed in Libraries, then select 'Library'.

How to compare two object variables in EL expression language?

In Expression Language you can just use the == or eq operator to compare object values. Behind the scenes they will actually use the Object#equals(). This way is done so, because until with the current EL 2.1 version you cannot invoke methods with other signatures than standard getter (and setter) methods (in the upcoming EL 2.2 it would be possible).

So the particular line

<c:when test="${lang}.equals(${pageLang})">

should be written as (note that the whole expression is inside the { and })

<c:when test="${lang == pageLang}">

or, equivalently

<c:when test="${lang eq pageLang}">

Both are behind the scenes roughly interpreted as

jspContext.findAttribute("lang").equals(jspContext.findAttribute("pageLang"))

If you want to compare constant String values, then you need to quote it

<c:when test="${lang == 'en'}">

or, equivalently

<c:when test="${lang eq 'en'}">

which is behind the scenes roughly interpreted as

jspContext.findAttribute("lang").equals("en")

C++ int float casting

How to change the scrollbar color using css

You can use the following attributes for webkit, which reach into the shadow DOM:

::-webkit-scrollbar              { /* 1 */ }
::-webkit-scrollbar-button       { /* 2 */ }
::-webkit-scrollbar-track        { /* 3 */ }
::-webkit-scrollbar-track-piece  { /* 4 */ }
::-webkit-scrollbar-thumb        { /* 5 */ }
::-webkit-scrollbar-corner       { /* 6 */ }
::-webkit-resizer                { /* 7 */ }

Here's a working fiddle with a red scrollbar, based on code from this page explaining the issues.

http://jsfiddle.net/hmartiro/Xck2A/1/

Using this and your solution, you can handle all browsers except Firefox, which at this point I think still requires a javascript solution.

Detecting locked tables (locked by LOCK TABLE)

The simplest way is :

SHOW OPEN TABLES WHERE In_use > 0

You get the locked tables only of the current database.

Convert from java.util.date to JodaTime

http://joda-time.sourceforge.net/quickstart.html

Each datetime class provides a variety of constructors. These include the Object constructor. This allows you to construct, for example, DateTime from the following objects:

* Date - a JDK instant
* Calendar - a JDK calendar
* String - in ISO8601 format
* Long - in milliseconds
* any Joda-Time datetime class

Truncate a SQLite table if it exists?

It is the two step process:

  1. Delete all data from that table using:

    Delete from TableName

  2. Then:

    DELETE FROM SQLITE_SEQUENCE WHERE name='TableName';

How to write UPDATE SQL with Table alias in SQL Server 2008?

You can always take the CTE, (Common Tabular Expression), approach.

    WHERE ID = 101
)

UPDATE updateCTE
SET TITLE = 'TEST';

    INTO @MyField

    WHILE @@FETCH_STATUS = 0
    BEGIN
      /*

Xcode 6 Bug: Unknown class in Interface Builder file

I faced the problem when I ported the storyboard from Swift project to Objective-c project, noticing vvkuznetsov's answer, it turned out the two project using same identifier. I "Product -> Clean" and tap Enter key on the Module and Class text field. the issue went away.

Order by multiple columns with Doctrine

In Doctrine 2.x you can't pass multiple order by using doctrine 'orderBy' or 'addOrderBy' as above examples. Because, it automatically adds the 'ASC' at the end of the last column name when you left the second parameter blank, such as in the 'orderBy' function.

For an example ->orderBy('a.fist_name ASC, a.last_name ASC') will output SQL something like this 'ORDER BY first_name ASC, last_name ASC ASC'. So this is SQL syntax error. Simply because default of the orderBy or addOrderBy is 'ASC'.

To add multiple order by's you need to use 'add' function. And it will be like this.

->add('orderBy','first_name ASC, last_name ASC'). This will give you the correctly formatted SQL.

More info on add() function. https://www.doctrine-project.org/projects/doctrine-orm/en/2.6/reference/query-builder.html#low-level-api

Hope this helps. Cheers!

Excel - extracting data based on another list

Have you tried Advanced Filter? Using your short list as the 'Criteria' and long list as the 'List Range'. Use the options: 'Filter in Place' and 'Unique Values'.

You should be presented with the list of unique values that only appear in your short list.

Alternatively, you can paste your Unique list to another location (on the same sheet), if you prefer. Choose the option 'Copy to another Location' and in the 'Copy to' box enter the cell reference (say F1) where you want the Unique list.

Note: this will work with the two columns (name/ID) too, if you select the two columns as both 'Criteria' and 'List Range'.

Best way to compare dates in Android

Note that the right format is ("dd/MM/yyyy") before the code works. "mm" means minuts !

String valid_until = "01/07/2013";
SimpleDateFormat sdf = new SimpleDateFormat("dd/MM/yyyy");
Date strDate = null;
try {
    strDate = sdf.parse(valid_until);
} catch (ParseException e) {
    e.printStackTrace();
}
if (new Date().after(strDate)) {
    catalog_outdated = 1;

Creating threads - Task.Factory.StartNew vs new Thread()

Your first block of code tells CLR to create a Thread (say. T) for you which is can be run as background (use thread pool threads when scheduling T ). In concise, you explicitly ask CLR to create a thread for you to do something and call Start() method on thread to start.

Your second block of code does the same but delegate (implicitly handover) the responsibility of creating thread (background- which again run in thread pool) and the starting thread through StartNew method in the Task Factory implementation.

This is a quick difference between given code blocks. Having said that, there are few detailed difference which you can google or see other answers from my fellow contributors.

Getting String value from enum in Java

I believe enum have a .name() in its API, pretty simple to use like this example:

private int security;
public String security(){ return Security.values()[security].name(); }
public void setSecurity(int security){ this.security = security; }

    private enum Security {
            low,
            high
    }

With this you can simply call

yourObject.security()

and it returns high/low as String, in this example

XML Serialize generic list of serializable objects

How to convert a Java object (bean) to key-value pairs (and vice versa)?

Probably late to the party. You can use Jackson and convert it into a Properties object. This is suited for Nested classes and if you want the key in the for a.b.c=value.

JavaPropsMapper mapper = new JavaPropsMapper();
Properties properties = mapper.writeValueAsProperties(sct);
Map<Object, Object> map = properties;

if you want some suffix, then just do

SerializationConfig config = mapper.getSerializationConfig()
                .withRootName("suffix");
mapper.setConfig(config);

need to add this dependency

<dependency>
  <groupId>com.fasterxml.jackson.dataformat</groupId>
  <artifactId>jackson-dataformat-properties</artifactId>
</dependency>

Developing C# on Linux

You can also install it using conda (tested on Ubuntu):

conda create --name csharp
conda activate csharp
conda install -c conda-forge mono

Iterate through dictionary values?

If all your values are unique, you can make a reverse dictionary:

PIXO_reverse = {v: k for k, v in PIX0.items()}

Result:

>>> PIXO_reverse

{'320x240': 'QVGA', '640x480': 'VGA', '800x600': 'SVGA'}

Now you can use the same logic as before.

Get specific ArrayList item

As many have already told you:

mainList.get(3);

Be sure to check the ArrayList Javadoc.

Also, be careful with the arrays indices: in Java, the first element is at index 0. So if you are trying to get the third element, your solution would be mainList.get(2);

Dynamically add properties to a existing object

Take a look at the ExpandoObject.

For example:

dynamic person = new ExpandoObject();
person.Name = "Mr bar";
person.Sex = "No Thanks";
person.Age = 123;

What operator is <> in VBA

This is an Inequality operator.

Also,this might be helpful for future: Operators listed by Functionality

Get all rows from SQLite

try:

Cursor  cursor = db.rawQuery("select * from table",null);

AND for List<String>:

if (cursor.moveToFirst()) {
  while (!cursor.isAfterLast()) {
    String name = cursor.getString(cursor.getColumnIndex(countyname));

    list.add(name);
    cursor.moveToNext();
  }
}

Concatenate a list of pandas dataframes together

Given that all the dataframes have the same columns, you can simply concat them:

import pandas as pd
df = pd.concat(list_of_dataframes)

What's wrong with nullable columns in composite primary keys?

Primary keys are for uniquely identifying rows. This is done by comparing all parts of a key to the input.

Per definition, NULL cannot be part of a successful comparison. Even a comparison to itself (NULL = NULL) will fail. This means a key containing NULL would not work.

Additonally, NULL is allowed in a foreign key, to mark an optional relationship.(*) Allowing it in the PK as well would break this.

(*)A word of caution: Having nullable foreign keys is not clean relational database design.

If there are two entities A and B where A can optionally be related to B, the clean solution is to create a resolution table (let's say AB). That table would link A with B: If there is a relationship then it would contain a record, if there isn't then it would not.

"Thinking in AngularJS" if I have a jQuery background?

Listen to the podcast JavaScript Jabber: Episode #32 that features the original creators of AngularJS: Misko Hevery & Igor Minar. They talk a lot about what it's like to come to AngularJS from other JavaScript backgrounds, especially jQuery.

One of the points made in the podcast made a lot of things click for me with respects to your question:

MISKO: [...] one of the things we thought about very hardly in Angular is, how do we provide lots of escape hatches so that you can get out and basically figure out a way out of this. So to us, the answer is this thing called “Directives”. And with directives, you essentially become a regular little jQuery JavaScript, you can do whatever you want.

IGOR: So think of directive as the instruction to the compiler that tells it whenever you come across this certain element or this CSS in the template, and you keep this kind of code and that code is in charge of the element and everything below that element in the DOM tree.

A transcript of the entire episode is available at the link provided above.

So, to directly answer your question: AngularJS is -very- opinionated and is a true MV* framework. However, you can still do all of the really cool stuff you know and love with jQuery inside of directives. It's not a matter of "How do I do what I used to in jQuery?" as much as it's a matter of "How do I supplement AngularJS with all of the stuff I used to do in jQuery?"

It's really two very different states of mind.

Java Best Practices to Prevent Cross Site Scripting

Use both. In fact refer a guide like the OWASP XSS Prevention cheat sheet, on the possible cases for usage of output encoding and input validation.

Input validation helps when you cannot rely on output encoding in certain cases. For instance, you're better off validating inputs appearing in URLs rather than encoding the URLs themselves (Apache will not serve a URL that is url-encoded). Or for that matter, validate inputs that appear in JavaScript expressions.

Ultimately, a simple thumb rule will help - if you do not trust user input enough or if you suspect that certain sources can result in XSS attacks despite output encoding, validate it against a whitelist.

Do take a look at the OWASP ESAPI source code on how the output encoders and input validators are written in a security library.

Count with IF condition in MySQL query

Use sum() in place of count()

Try below:

SELECT
    ccc_news . * ,
    SUM(if(ccc_news_comments.id = 'approved', 1, 0)) AS comments
FROM
    ccc_news
    LEFT JOIN
        ccc_news_comments
    ON
        ccc_news_comments.news_id = ccc_news.news_id
WHERE
    `ccc_news`.`category` = 'news_layer2'
    AND `ccc_news`.`status` = 'Active'
GROUP BY
    ccc_news.news_id
ORDER BY
    ccc_news.set_order ASC
LIMIT 20

Simple InputBox function

It would be something like this

function CustomInputBox([string] $title, [string] $message, [string] $defaultText)
{
$inputObject = new-object -comobject MSScriptControl.ScriptControl
$inputObject.language = "vbscript"
$inputObject.addcode("function getInput() getInput = inputbox(`"$message`",`"$title`" , `"$defaultText`") end function" )
$_userInput = $inputObject.eval("getInput")

return $_userInput
}

Then you can call the function similar to this.

$userInput = CustomInputBox "User Name" "Please enter your name." ""
if ( $userInput -ne $null )
{
 echo "Input was [$userInput]"
}
else
{
 echo "User cancelled the form!"
}

This is the most simple way to do this that I can think of.
