How to set cursor to input box in Javascript?

This way sets the focus and cursor to the end of your input:

div.getElementsByTagName("input")[0].setSelectionRange(div.getElementsByTagName("input")[0].value.length,div.getElementsByTagName("input")[0].value.length,"forward");

Download old version of package with NuGet

As the original question does not state which NuGet frontend should be used, I would like to mention that NuGet 3.5 adds support for updating to a specific version via the command line client (which works for downgrades, too):

NuGet.exe update Common.Logging -Version 1.2.0

How to upgrade PowerShell version from 2.0 to 3.0

The latest PowerShell version as of Sept 2015 is PowerShell 4.0. It's bundled with Windows Management Framework 4.0.

Here's the download page for PowerShelll 4.0 for all versions of Windows. For Windows 7, there are 2 links on that page, 1 for x64 and 1 for x86.

"installation of package 'FILE_PATH' had non-zero exit status" in R

I had the same problem, but the answer from @little_chemist helped me sorting it out. When installing packages from a file in a unix OS (Ubuntu 18.04 for me), the file can not be zipped. You are using:

install.packages("/home/p/Research/14_bivpois-Rcode.zip", repos = NULL, type="source")

I noticed the solution was as simple as unzipping the package. Additionally, unzip all (installation related?) packages inside, as @little_chemist points out. Then use install.packages:

install.packages("/home/p/Research/14_bivpois-Rcode", repos = NULL, type="source")

Hope it helps!

Selecting option by text content with jQuery

Replace this:

var cat = $.jqURL.get('category');
var $dd = $('#cbCategory');
var $options = $('option', $dd);
$options.each(function() {
if ($(this).text() == cat)
    $(this).select(); // This is where my problem is
});

With this:

$('#cbCategory').val(cat);

Calling val() on a select list will automatically select the option with that value, if any.

Authorize attribute in ASP.NET MVC

Real power comes with understanding and implementation membership provider together with role provider. You can assign users into roles and according to that restriction you can apply different access roles for different user to controller actions or controller itself.

 [Authorize(Users = "Betty, Johnny")]
 public ActionResult SpecificUserOnly()
 {
     return View();
 }

or you can restrict according to group

[Authorize(Roles = "Admin, Super User")]
public ActionResult AdministratorsOnly()
{
    return View();
}

Android requires compiler compliance level 5.0 or 6.0. Found '1.7' instead. Please use Android Tools > Fix Project Properties

I fixed this problem employing the two procedures of :

  1. In Eclipse->'Project' menu -> 'Java Compiler' -> set 'Compiler compliance level' = 1.6 check on 'Use default compliance settings' Set 'Generated .class compatibility' = 1.6 Set 'Source compatibilty' = 1.6

  2. Then go to 'Windows' menu --> 'Preferences' -->'Java' , expand 'Java' --> 'Compiler' -->Set 'Compiler compliance level' = 1.6

Hint: Source compatibility must be equal to or less than compliance level.

How does Java deal with multiple conditions inside a single IF statement

Please look up the difference between & and && in Java (the same applies to | and ||).

& and | are just logical operators, while && and || are conditional logical operators, which in your example means that

if(bool1 && bool2 && bool3) {

will skip bool2 and bool3 if bool1 is false, and

if(bool1 & bool2 & bool3) {

will evaluate all conditions regardless of their values.

For example, given:

boolean foo() {
    System.out.println("foo");
    return true;
}

if(foo() | foo()) will print foo twice, and if(foo() || foo()) - just once.

How to Scroll Down - JQuery

    event.preventDefault();
    // Getting the height of the document

//                                       |    |
//                                       |    --- duration (milliseconds)
// ---- distance from the top

What is the difference between origin and upstream on GitHub?

This should be understood in the context of GitHub forks (where you fork a GitHub repo on GitHub before cloning that fork locally).

From the GitHub page:

When a repo is cloned, it has a default remote called origin that points to your fork on GitHub, not the original repo it was forked from.
To keep track of the original repo, you need to add another remote named upstream

git remote add upstream git://github.com/<aUser>/<aRepo.git>

(with aUser/aRepo the reference for the original creator and repository, that you have forked)

You will use upstream to fetch from the original repo (in order to keep your local copy in sync with the project you want to contribute to).

git fetch upstream

(git fetch alone would fetch from origin by default, which is not what is needed here)

You will use origin to pull and push since you can contribute to your own repository.

git pull
git push

(again, without parameters, 'origin' is used by default)

You will contribute back to the upstream repo by making a pull request.

Making a UITableView scroll when text field is selected

My approach:

I first subclass UITextField and add an indexPath property. In the cellFor... Method i hand over the indexPath property.

Then I add following code:

UITableViewCell *cell = [self.tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:textField.indexPath];

CGPoint cellPoint = [cell convertPoint:textField.center toView:self.tableView];
[UIView animateWithDuration:0.3 animations:^(void){self.tableView.contentOffset = CGPointMake(0, cellPoint.y-50);}];

to the textFieldShould/WillBegin...etc.

When the Keyboard disappears you have to reverse it with:

[UIView animateWithDuration:0.3 animations:^(void){self.tableView.contentOffset = CGPointMake(0, 0);}];

Disable scrolling on `<input type=number>`

First you must stop the mousewheel event by either:

  1. Disabling it with mousewheel.disableScroll
  2. Intercepting it with e.preventDefault();
  3. By removing focus from the element el.blur();

The first two approaches both stop the window from scrolling and the last removes focus from the element; both of which are undesirable outcomes.

One workaround is to use el.blur() and refocus the element after a delay:

$('input[type=number]').on('mousewheel', function(){
  var el = $(this);
  el.blur();
  setTimeout(function(){
    el.focus();
  }, 10);
});

What does this expression language ${pageContext.request.contextPath} exactly do in JSP EL?

The pageContext is an implicit object available in JSPs. The EL documentation says

The context for the JSP page. Provides access to various objects including:
servletContext: ...
session: ...
request: ...
response: ...

Thus this expression will get the current HttpServletRequest object and get the context path for the current request and append /JSPAddress.jsp to it to create a link (that will work even if the context-path this resource is accessed at changes).

The primary purpose of this expression would be to keep your links 'relative' to the application context and insulate them from changes to the application path.

For example, if your JSP (named thisJSP.jsp) is accessed at http://myhost.com/myWebApp/thisJSP.jsp, thecontext path will be myWebApp. Thus, the link href generated will be /myWebApp/JSPAddress.jsp.

If someday, you decide to deploy the JSP on another server with the context-path of corpWebApp, the href generated for the link will automatically change to /corpWebApp/JSPAddress.jsp without any work on your part.

Python send UDP packet

Your code works as is for me. I'm verifying this by using netcat on Linux.

Using netcat, I can do nc -ul 127.0.0.1 5005 which will listen for packets at:

  • IP: 127.0.0.1
  • Port: 5005
  • Protocol: UDP

That being said, here's the output that I see when I run your script, while having netcat running.

[9:34am][wlynch@watermelon ~] nc -ul 127.0.0.1 5005
Hello, World!

Difference between 'cls' and 'self' in Python classes?

It's used in case of a class method. Check this reference for further details.

EDIT: As clarified by Adrien, it's a convention. You can actually use anything but cls and self are used (PEP8).

Build .so file from .c file using gcc command line

To generate a shared library you need first to compile your C code with the -fPIC (position independent code) flag.

gcc -c -fPIC hello.c -o hello.o

This will generate an object file (.o), now you take it and create the .so file:

gcc hello.o -shared -o libhello.so

EDIT: Suggestions from the comments:

You can use

gcc -shared -o libhello.so -fPIC hello.c

to do it in one step. – Jonathan Leffler

I also suggest to add -Wall to get all warnings, and -g to get debugging information, to your gcc commands. – Basile Starynkevitch

stopPropagation vs. stopImmediatePropagation

From the jQuery API:

In addition to keeping any additional handlers on an element from being executed, this method also stops the bubbling by implicitly calling event.stopPropagation(). To simply prevent the event from bubbling to ancestor elements but allow other event handlers to execute on the same element, we can use event.stopPropagation() instead.

Use event.isImmediatePropagationStopped() to know whether this method was ever called (on that event object).

In short: event.stopPropagation() allows other handlers on the same element to be executed, while event.stopImmediatePropagation() prevents every event from running.

Query to list all users of a certain group

memberOf (in AD) is stored as a list of distinguishedNames. Your filter needs to be something like:

(&(objectCategory=user)(memberOf=cn=MyCustomGroup,ou=ouOfGroup,dc=subdomain,dc=domain,dc=com))

If you don't yet have the distinguished name, you can search for it with:

(&(objectCategory=group)(cn=myCustomGroup))

and return the attribute distinguishedName. Case may matter.

How to make the overflow CSS property work with hidden as value

Evidently, sometimes, the display properties of parent of the element containing the matter that shouldn't overflow should also be set to overflow:hidden as well, e.g.:

How to add pandas data to an existing csv file?

Initially starting with a pyspark dataframes - I got type conversion errors (when converting to pandas df's and then appending to csv) given the schema/column types in my pyspark dataframes

Solved the problem by forcing all columns in each df to be of type string and then appending this to csv as follows:

with open('testAppend.csv', 'a') as f:
    df2.toPandas().astype(str).to_csv(f, header=False)

Understanding ASP.NET Eval() and Bind()

The question was answered perfectly by Darin Dimitrov, but since ASP.NET 4.5, there is now a better way to set up these bindings to replace* Eval() and Bind(), taking advantage of the strongly-typed bindings.

*Note: this will only work if you're not using a SqlDataSource or an anonymous object. It requires a Strongly-typed object (from an EF model or any other class).

This code snippet shows how Eval and Bind would be used for a ListView control (InsertItem needs Bind, as explained by Darin Dimitrov above, and ItemTemplate is read-only (hence they're labels), so just needs an Eval):

<asp:ListView ID="ListView1" runat="server" DataKeyNames="Id" InsertItemPosition="LastItem" SelectMethod="ListView1_GetData" InsertMethod="ListView1_InsertItem" DeleteMethod="ListView1_DeleteItem">
    <InsertItemTemplate>
        <li>
            Title: <asp:TextBox ID="Title" runat="server" Text='<%# Bind("Title") %>'/><br />
            Description: <asp:TextBox ID="Description" runat="server" TextMode="MultiLine" Text='<%# Bind("Description") %>' /><br />
            <asp:Button ID="InsertButton" runat="server" Text="Insert" CommandName="Insert" />
        </li>
    </InsertItemTemplate>
    <ItemTemplate>
        <li>
            Title: <asp:Label ID="Title" runat="server" Text='<%#  Eval("Title") %>' /><br />
            Description: <asp:Label ID="Description" runat="server" Text='<%# Eval("Description") %>' /><br />
            <asp:Button ID="DeleteButton" runat="server" Text="Delete" CommandName="Delete" CausesValidation="false"/>
        </li>
      </ItemTemplate>

From ASP.NET 4.5+, data-bound controls have been extended with a new property ItemType, which points to the type of object you're assigning to its data source.

<asp:ListView ItemType="Picture" ID="ListView1" runat="server" ...>

Picture is the strongly type object (from EF model). We then replace:

Bind(property) -> BindItem.property
Eval(property) -> Item.property

So this:

<%# Bind("Title") %>
<%# Bind("Description") %>
<%#  Eval("Title") %>
<%# Eval("Description") %>

Would become this:

<%# BindItem.Title %>
<%# BindItem.Description %>
<%# Item.Title %>
<%# Item.Description %>

Advantages over Eval & Bind:

  • IntelliSense can find the correct property of the object your're working withenter image description here
  • If property is renamed/deleted, you will get an error before page is viewed in browser
  • External tools (requires full versions of VS) will correctly rename item in markup when you rename a property on your object

Java - escape string to prevent SQL injection

PreparedStatements are the way to go, because they make SQL injection impossible. Here's a simple example taking the user's input as the parameters:

public insertUser(String name, String email) {
   Connection conn = null;
   PreparedStatement stmt = null;
   try {
      conn = setupTheDatabaseConnectionSomehow();
      stmt = conn.prepareStatement("INSERT INTO person (name, email) values (?, ?)");
      stmt.setString(1, name);
      stmt.setString(2, email);
      stmt.executeUpdate();
   }
   finally {
      try {
         if (stmt != null) { stmt.close(); }
      }
      catch (Exception e) {
         // log this error
      }
      try {
         if (conn != null) { conn.close(); }
      }
      catch (Exception e) {
         // log this error
      }
   }
}

No matter what characters are in name and email, those characters will be placed directly in the database. They won't affect the INSERT statement in any way.

There are different set methods for different data types -- which one you use depends on what your database fields are. For example, if you have an INTEGER column in the database, you should use a setInt method. The PreparedStatement documentation lists all the different methods available for setting and getting data.

SELECT DISTINCT pr.principal_id, pr.name, pr.type_desc,
    pr.authentication_type_desc, pe.state_desc, pe.permission_name
FROM sys.database_principals AS pr
JOIN sys.database_permissions AS pe
    ON pe.grantee_principal_id = pr.principal_id;

Per Managing Databases and Logins in Azure SQL Database, the loginmanager and dbmanager roles are the two server-level security roles available in Azure SQL Database. The loginmanager role has permission to create logins, and the dbmanager role has permission to create databases. You can view which users belong to these roles by using the query you have above against the master database. You can also determine the role memberships of users on each of your user databases by using the same query (minus the filter predicate) while connected to them.

PHP Swift mailer: Failed to authenticate on SMTP using 2 possible authenticators

I really have the same problem, finally, i solved it.

its likey not the Swift Mail's problem. It's Yaml parser's problem. if your password only the digits, the password senmd to swift finally not the same one.

swiftmailer:
    transport:  smtp
    encryption: ssl
    auth_mode:  login
    host:       smtp.gmail.com
    username:   your_username
    password:   61548921

you need fix it with double quotes password: "61548921"

Do while loop in SQL Server 2008

You can also use an exit variable if you want your code to be a bit more readable:

DECLARE @Flag int = 0
DECLARE @Done bit = 0

WHILE @Done = 0 BEGIN
    SET @Flag = @Flag + 1
    PRINT @Flag
    IF @Flag >= 5 SET @Done = 1
END

This would probably be more relevant when you have a more complicated loop and are trying to keep track of the logic. As stated loops are expensive so try and use other methods if you can.

How to get the background color of an HTML element?

It depends which style from the div you need. Is this a background style which was defined in CSS or background style which was added through javascript(inline) to the current node?

In case of CSS style, you should use computed style. Like you do in getStyle().

With inline style you should use node.style reference: x.style.backgroundColor;

Also notice, that you pick the style by using camelCase/non hyphen reference, so not background-color, but backgroundColor;

Git: Cannot see new remote branch

Doing a git remote update will also update the list of branches available from the remote repository.

If you are using TortoiseGit, as of version 1.8.3.0, you can do "Git -> Sync" and there will be a "Remote Update" button in the lower left of the window that appears. Click that. Then you should be able to do "Git -> Switch/Checkout" and have the new remote branch appear in the dropdown of branches you can select.

How can I solve equations in Python?

Python may be good, but it isn't God...

There are a few different ways to solve equations. SymPy has already been mentioned, if you're looking for analytic solutions.

If you're happy to just have a numerical solution, Numpy has a few routines that can help. If you're just interested in solutions to polynomials, numpy.roots will work. Specifically for the case you mentioned:

>>> import numpy
>>> numpy.roots([2,-6])
array([3.0])

For more complicated expressions, have a look at scipy.fsolve.

Either way, you can't escape using a library.

Virtual Memory Usage from Java under Linux, too much memory used

The Sun JVM requires a lot of memory for HotSpot and it maps in the runtime libraries in shared memory.

If memory is an issue consider using another JVM suitable for embedding. IBM has j9, and there is the Open Source "jamvm" which uses GNU classpath libraries. Also Sun has the Squeak JVM running on the SunSPOTS so there are alternatives.

How can I get the list of files in a directory using C or C++?

Shreevardhan answer works great. But if you want to use it in c++14 just make a change namespace fs = experimental::filesystem;

i.e.,

#include <string>
#include <iostream>
#include <filesystem>

using namespace std;
namespace fs = experimental::filesystem;

int main()
{
    string path = "C:\\splits\\";
    for (auto & p : fs::directory_iterator(path))
        cout << p << endl;
    int n;
    cin >> n;
}

How to create a table from select query result in SQL Server 2008

jQuery: count number of rows in a table

Here's my take on it:

//Helper function that gets a count of all the rows <TR> in a table body <TBODY>
$.fn.rowCount = function() {
    return $('tr', $(this).find('tbody')).length;
};

USAGE:

var rowCount = $('#productTypesTable').rowCount();

Java 8 Streams: multiple filters vs. complex condition

The code that has to be executed for both alternatives is so similar that you can’t predict a result reliably. The underlying object structure might differ but that’s no challenge to the hotspot optimizer. So it depends on other surrounding conditions which will yield to a faster execution, if there is any difference.

Combining two filter instances creates more objects and hence more delegating code but this can change if you use method references rather than lambda expressions, e.g. replace filter(x -> x.isCool()) by filter(ItemType::isCool). That way you have eliminated the synthetic delegating method created for your lambda expression. So combining two filters using two method references might create the same or lesser delegation code than a single filter invocation using a lambda expression with &&.

But, as said, this kind of overhead will be eliminated by the HotSpot optimizer and is negligible.

In theory, two filters could be easier parallelized than a single filter but that’s only relevant for rather computational intense tasks¹.

So there is no simple answer.

The bottom line is, don’t think about such performance differences below the odor detection threshold. Use what is more readable.

¹…and would require an implementation doing parallel processing of subsequent stages, a road currently not taken by the standard Stream implementation

How do I fix a "Performance counter registry hive consistency" when installing SQL Server R2 Express?

Use Rafael's solution: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en/sqlsetupandupgrade/thread/dddf0349-557b-48c7-bf82-6bd1adb5c694..

Added data from link to avoid link rot..

put this at any Console application:

string.Format("{0,3}", CultureInfo.InstalledUICulture.Parent.LCID.ToString("X")).Replace(" ", "0");

Watch the result. At mine it was "016".

Then you go to the registry at this key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Perflib

and create another one with the name you got from the string.Format result.

In my case:

"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Perflib\016"

and copy the info that is on any other key in this Perflib to this key you just created. Run the instalation again.

Just run the script and get your 3 digit code. Then follow his simple and quick steps, and you're ready to go!

Memcache Vs. Memcached

(PartlyStolen from ServerFault)

I think that both are functionally the same, but they simply have different authors, and the one is simply named more appropriately than the other.

Here is a quick backgrounder in naming conventions (for those unfamiliar), which explains the frustration by the question asker: For many *nix applications, the piece that does the backend work is called a "daemon" (think "service" in Windows-land), while the interface or client application is what you use to control or access the daemon. The daemon is most often named the same as the client, with the letter "d" appended to it. For example "imap" would be a client that connects to the "imapd" daemon.

This naming convention is clearly being adhered to by memcache when you read the introduction to the memcache module (notice the distinction between memcache and memcached in this excerpt):

Memcache module provides handy procedural and object oriented interface to memcached, highly effective caching daemon, which was especially designed to decrease database load in dynamic web applications.

The Memcache module also provides a session handler (memcache).

More information about memcached can be found at » http://www.danga.com/memcached/.

The frustration here is caused by the author of the PHP extension which was badly named memcached, since it shares the same name as the actual daemon called memcached. Notice also that in the introduction to memcached (the php module), it makes mention of libmemcached, which is the shared library (or API) that is used by the module to access the memcached daemon:

memcached is a high-performance, distributed memory object caching system, generic in nature, but intended for use in speeding up dynamic web applications by alleviating database load.

This extension uses libmemcached library to provide API for communicating with memcached servers. It also provides a session handler (memcached).

Information about libmemcached can be found at » http://tangent.org/552/libmemcached.html.

How to Detect Browser Back Button event - Cross Browser

The document.mouseover does not work for IE and FireFox. However I have tried this :

$(document).ready(function () {
  setInterval(function () {
    var $sample = $("body");
    if ($sample.is(":hover")) {
      window.innerDocClick = true;
    } else {
      window.innerDocClick = false;
    }
  });

});

window.onhashchange = function () {
  if (window.innerDocClick) {
    //Your own in-page mechanism triggered the hash change
  } else {
    //Browser back or forward button was pressed
  }
};

This works for Chrome and IE and not FireFox. Still working to get FireFox right. Any easy way on detecting Browser back/forward button click are welcome, not particularly in JQuery but also AngularJS or plain Javascript.

Generating random numbers in C

#include <stdlib.h>

int main()
{
    int x;
    x = rand(6);
    printf("%d", x);
}

Especially as a beginner, you should ask your compiler to print every warning about bad code that it can generate. Modern compilers know lots of different warnings which help you to program better. For example, when you compile this program with the GNU C Compiler:

$ gcc -W -Wall rand.c
rand.c: In function `main':
rand.c:5: error: too many arguments to function `rand'
rand.c:6: warning: implicit declaration of function `printf'

You get two warnings here. The first one says that the rand function only takes zero arguments, not one as you tried. To get a random number between 0 and n, you can use the expression rand() % n, which is not perfect but ok for small n. The resulting random numbers are normally not evenly distributed; smaller values are returned more often.

The second warning tells you that you are calling a function that the compiler doesn't know at that point. You have to tell the compiler by saying #include <stdio.h>. Which include files are needed for which functions is not always simple, but asking the Open Group specification for portable operating systems works in many cases: http://www.google.com/search?q=opengroup+rand.

These two warnings tell you much about the history of the C programming language. 40 years back, the definition of a function didn't include the number of parameters or the types of the parameters. It was also ok to call an unknown function, which in most cases worked. If you want to write code today, you should not rely on these old features but instead enable your compiler's warnings, understand the warnings and then fix them properly.

How do you easily create empty matrices javascript?

The question is slightly ambiguous, since None can translate into either undefined or null. null is a better choice:

var a = [], b;
var i, j;
for (i = 0; i < 9; i++) {
  for (j = 0, b = []; j < 9; j++) {
    b.push(null);
  }
  a.push(b);
}

If undefined, you can be sloppy and just don't bother, everything is undefined anyway. :)

pip install gives error: Unable to find vcvarsall.bat

You could use ol' good easy_install zipline instead.

easy_install isn't pip but one good aspect of it is the ability to download and install binary packages too, which would free you for the need having VC++ ready. This of course relies of the assumption that the binaries were prepared for your Python version.

UPDATE:

Yes, Pip can install binaries now!

There's a new binary Python archive format (wheel) that is supposed to replace "eggs". Wheels are already supported by pip. This means you'll be able to install zipline with pip without compiling it as soon as someone builds the wheel for your platform and uploads it to PyPI.

How to do exponential and logarithmic curve fitting in Python? I found only polynomial fitting

We demonstrate features of lmfit while solving both problems.

Given

import lmfit

import numpy as np

import matplotlib.pyplot as plt

%matplotlib inline
np.random.seed(123)
# General Functions
def func_log(x, a, b, c):
    """Return values from a general log function."""
    return a * np.log(b * x) + c

# Data
x_samp = np.linspace(1, 5, 50)
_noise = np.random.normal(size=len(x_samp), scale=0.06)
y_samp = 2.5 * np.exp(1.2 * x_samp) + 0.7 + _noise
y_samp2 = 2.5 * np.log(1.2 * x_samp) + 0.7 + _noise

Code

Approach 1 - lmfit Model

Fit exponential data

regressor = lmfit.models.ExponentialModel()                # 1
initial_guess = dict(amplitude=1, decay=-1)                # 2
results = regressor.fit(y_samp, x=x_samp, **initial_guess)
y_fit = results.best_fit

plt.plot(x_samp, y_samp, "o", label="Data")
plt.plot(x_samp, y_fit, "k--", label="Fit")
plt.legend()

enter image description here

Approach 2 - Custom Model

Fit log data

regressor = lmfit.Model(func_log)                          # 1
initial_guess = dict(a=1, b=.1, c=.1)                      # 2
results = regressor.fit(y_samp2, x=x_samp, **initial_guess)
y_fit = results.best_fit

plt.plot(x_samp, y_samp2, "o", label="Data")
plt.plot(x_samp, y_fit, "k--", label="Fit")
plt.legend()

enter image description here

Details

  1. Choose a regression class
  2. Supply named, initial guesses that respect the function's domain

You can determine the inferred parameters from the regressor object. Example:

regressor.param_names
# ['decay', 'amplitude']

To make predictions, use the ModelResult.eval() method.

model = results.eval
y_pred = model(x=np.array([1.5]))

Note: the ExponentialModel() follows a decay function, which accepts two parameters, one of which is negative.

enter image description here

See also ExponentialGaussianModel(), which accepts more parameters.

Install the library via > pip install lmfit.

How do I make a text go onto the next line if it overflows?

word-wrap: break-word;

add this to your container that should do the trick

Java: Local variable mi defined in an enclosing scope must be final or effectively final

One solution is to create a named class instead of using an anonymous class. Give that named class a constructor that takes whatever parameters you wish and assigns them to class fields:

class MenuActionListener implements ActionListener {
    private Color kolorIkony;

    public MenuActionListener(Color kolorIkony) {
        this.kolorIkony = kolorIkony
    }

    @Override
    public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) {
        JMenuItem item = (JMenuItem) e.getSource();
        IconA icon = (IconA) item.getIcon();
        // Use the class field here
        textArea.setForeground(kolorIkony);
    }
});

Now you can create an instance of this class as usual:

Jmi.addActionListener(new MenuActionListener(getColor(colors[mi]));

Difference between / and /* in servlet mapping url pattern

Perhaps you need to know how urls are mapped too, since I suffered 404 for hours. There are two kinds of handlers handling requests. BeanNameUrlHandlerMapping and SimpleUrlHandlerMapping. When we defined a servlet-mapping, we are using SimpleUrlHandlerMapping. One thing we need to know is these two handlers share a common property called alwaysUseFullPath which defaults to false.

false here means Spring will not use the full path to mapp a url to a controller. What does it mean? It means when you define a servlet-mapping:

<servlet-mapping>
    <servlet-name>viewServlet</servlet-name>
    <url-pattern>/perfix/*</url-pattern>
</servlet-mapping>

the handler will actually use the * part to find the controller. For example, the following controller will face a 404 error when you request it using /perfix/api/feature/doSomething

@Controller()
@RequestMapping("/perfix/api/feature")
public class MyController {
    @RequestMapping(value = "/doSomething", method = RequestMethod.GET)
    @ResponseBody
    public String doSomething(HttpServletRequest request) {
        ....
    }
}

It is a perfect match, right? But why 404. As mentioned before, default value of alwaysUseFullPath is false, which means in your request, only /api/feature/doSomething is used to find a corresponding Controller, but there is no Controller cares about that path. You need to either change your url to /perfix/perfix/api/feature/doSomething or remove perfix from MyController base @RequestingMapping.

correct way to use super (argument passing)

If you're going to have a lot of inheritence (that's the case here) I suggest you to pass all parameters using **kwargs, and then pop them right after you use them (unless you need them in upper classes).

class First(object):
    def __init__(self, *args, **kwargs):
        self.first_arg = kwargs.pop('first_arg')
        super(First, self).__init__(*args, **kwargs)

class Second(First):
    def __init__(self, *args, **kwargs):
        self.second_arg = kwargs.pop('second_arg')
        super(Second, self).__init__(*args, **kwargs)

class Third(Second):
    def __init__(self, *args, **kwargs):
        self.third_arg = kwargs.pop('third_arg')
        super(Third, self).__init__(*args, **kwargs)

This is the simplest way to solve those kind of problems.

third = Third(first_arg=1, second_arg=2, third_arg=3)

How to read values from properties file?

Another way is using a ResourceBundle. Basically you get the bundle using its name without the '.properties'

And you recover any value using this:

What are some good SSH Servers for windows?

VanDyke VShell is the best Windows SSH Server I've ever worked with. It is kind of expensive though ($250). If you want a free solution, freeSSHd works okay. The CYGWIN solution is always an option, I've found, however, that it is a lot of work & overhead just to get SSH.

Adding up BigDecimals using Streams

If you don't mind a third party dependency, there is a class named Collectors2 in Eclipse Collections which contains methods returning Collectors for summing and summarizing BigDecimal and BigInteger. These methods take a Function as a parameter so you can extract a BigDecimal or BigInteger value from an object.

List<BigDecimal> list = mList(
        BigDecimal.valueOf(0.1),
        BigDecimal.valueOf(1.1),
        BigDecimal.valueOf(2.1),
        BigDecimal.valueOf(0.1));

BigDecimal sum =
        list.stream().collect(Collectors2.summingBigDecimal(e -> e));
Assert.assertEquals(BigDecimal.valueOf(3.4), sum);

BigDecimalSummaryStatistics statistics =
        list.stream().collect(Collectors2.summarizingBigDecimal(e -> e));
Assert.assertEquals(BigDecimal.valueOf(3.4), statistics.getSum());
Assert.assertEquals(BigDecimal.valueOf(0.1), statistics.getMin());
Assert.assertEquals(BigDecimal.valueOf(2.1), statistics.getMax());
Assert.assertEquals(BigDecimal.valueOf(0.85), statistics.getAverage());

How to generate a random alpha-numeric string

I found this solution that generates a random hex encoded string. The provided unit test seems to hold up to my primary use case. Although, it is slightly more complex than some of the other answers provided.

/**
 * Generate a random hex encoded string token of the specified length
 *
 * @param length
 * @return random hex string
 */
public static synchronized String generateUniqueToken(Integer length){
    byte random[] = new byte[length];
    Random randomGenerator = new Random();
    StringBuffer buffer = new StringBuffer();

    randomGenerator.nextBytes(random);

    for (int j = 0; j < random.length; j++) {
        byte b1 = (byte) ((random[j] & 0xf0) >> 4);
        byte b2 = (byte) (random[j] & 0x0f);
        if (b1 < 10)
            buffer.append((char) ('0' + b1));
        else
            buffer.append((char) ('A' + (b1 - 10)));
        if (b2 < 10)
            buffer.append((char) ('0' + b2));
        else
            buffer.append((char) ('A' + (b2 - 10)));
    }
    return (buffer.toString());
}

@Test
public void testGenerateUniqueToken(){
    Set set = new HashSet();
    String token = null;
    int size = 16;

    /* Seems like we should be able to generate 500K tokens
     * without a duplicate
     */
    for (int i=0; i<500000; i++){
        token = Utility.generateUniqueToken(size);

        if (token.length() != size * 2){
            fail("Incorrect length");
        } else if (set.contains(token)) {
            fail("Duplicate token generated");
        } else{
            set.add(token);
        }

        let myComponents = myCalendar.components(.Weekday, fromDate: todayDate)
        let weekDay = myComponents.weekday
        switch weekDay {
        case 1:
            return "Sun"
        case 2:

What is offsetHeight, clientHeight, scrollHeight?

To know the difference you have to understand the box model, but basically:

clientHeight:

returns the inner height of an element in pixels, including padding but not the horizontal scrollbar height, border, or margin

offsetHeight:

is a measurement which includes the element borders, the element vertical padding, the element horizontal scrollbar (if present, if rendered) and the element CSS height.

scrollHeight:

is a measurement of the height of an element's content including content not visible on the screen due to overflow

I will make it easier:

Consider:

<element>
    <!-- *content*: child nodes: -->        | content
    A child node as text node | of
    <div id="another_child_node"></div>     | the
    ... and I am the 4th child node | element
</element>

scrollHeight: ENTIRE content & padding (visible or not)
Height of all content + paddings, despite of height of the element.

clientHeight: VISIBLE content & padding
Only visible height: content portion limited by explicitly defined height of the element.

offsetHeight: VISIBLE content & padding + border + scrollbar
Height occupied by the element on document.

scrollHeight clientHeight and offsetHeight

Android: Getting "Manifest merger failed" error after updating to a new version of gradle

You are using multiple versions of the Android Support Libraries:

compile 'com.android.support:appcompat-v7:26.0.0-alpha1'
compile 'com.android.support:cardview-v7:26.0.0-alpha1'
compile 'com.android.support:design:25+'

Two are 26.0.0-alpha1, and one is using 25+.

Pick one concrete version and use it for all three of these. Since your compileSdkVersion is not O, use 25.3.1 for all three of these libraries, resulting in:

compile 'com.android.support:appcompat-v7:25.3.1'
compile 'com.android.support:cardview-v7:25.3.1'
compile 'com.android.support:design:25.3.1'

Send File Attachment from Form Using phpMailer and PHP

Hey guys the code below worked perfectly fine for me. Just replace the setFrom and addAddress with your preference and that's it.

<?php
/**
 * PHPMailer simple file upload and send example.
 */
//Import the PHPMailer class into the global namespace
use PHPMailer\PHPMailer\PHPMailer;
use PHPMailer\PHPMailer\Exception;
$msg = '';
if (array_key_exists('userfile', $_FILES)) {
    // First handle the upload
    // Don't trust provided filename - same goes for MIME types
    // See http://php.net/manual/en/features.file-upload.php#114004 for more thorough upload validation
    $uploadfile = tempnam(sys_get_temp_dir(), hash('sha256', $_FILES['userfile']['name']));
    if (move_uploaded_file($_FILES['userfile']['tmp_name'], $uploadfile))
    {
        // Upload handled successfully
        // Now create a message

        require 'vendor/autoload.php';

        $mail->addAttachment($uploadfile, $filename);

Set colspan dynamically with jquery

How about

$([your selector]).attr('colspan',3);

I would imagine that to work but have no way to test at the moment. Using .attr() would be the usual jQuery way of setting attributes of elements in the wrapped set.

As has been mentioned in another answer, in order to get this to work would require removing the td elements that have no text in them from the DOM. It may be easier to do this all server side

EDIT:

As was mentioned in the comments, there is a bug in attempting to set colspan using attr() in IE, but the following works in IE6 and FireFox 3.0.13.

Working Demo

notice the use of the attribute colSpan and not colspan - the former works in both IE and Firefox, but the latter does not work in IE. Looking at jQuery 1.3.2 source, it would appear that attr() attempts to set the attribute as a property of the element if

  1. it exists as a property on the element (colSpan exists as a property and defaults to 1 on <td> HTMLElements in IE and FireFox)
  2. the document is not xml and
  3. the attribute is none of href, src or style

using colSpan as opposed to colspan works with attr() because the former is a property defined on the element whereas the latter is not.

the fall-through for attr() is to attempt to use setAttribute() on the element in question, setting the value to a string, but this causes problems in IE (bug #1070 in jQuery)

// convert the value to a string (all browsers do this but IE) see #1070
elem.setAttribute( name, "" + value );

In the demo, for each row, the text in each cell is evaluated. If the text is a blank string, then the cell is removed and a counter incremented. The first cell in the row that does not have class="colTime" has a colspan attribute set to the value of the counter + 1 (for the span it occupies itself).

After this, for each row, the text in the cell with class="colspans" is set to the colspan attribute values of each cell in the row from left to right.

</body>
</html>

jQuery code

$(function() {

  $('table.tblSimpleAgenda tr').each(function() {
    var tr = this;
    var counter = 0;

    $('td', tr).each(function(index, value) {
      var td = $(this);

      if (td.text() == "") {
        counter++;
        td.remove();
      }
    });

    if (counter !== 0) {
      $('td:not(.colTime):first', tr)
        .attr('colSpan', '' + parseInt(counter + 1,10) + '');
    }
  });

  $('td.colspans').each(function(){
    var td = $(this);
    var colspans = [];

    td.siblings().each(function() {
      colspans.push(($(this).attr('colSpan')) == null ? 1 : $(this).attr('colSpan'));
    });

    td.text(colspans.join(','));
  });

});

This is just a demonstration to show that attr() can be used, but to be aware of it's implementation and the cross-browser quirks that come with it. I've also made some assumptions about your table layout in the demo (i.e. apply the colspan to the first "non-Time" cell in each row), but hopefully you get the idea.

Android list view inside a scroll view

found a solution for scrollview -> viewpager -> FragmentPagerAdapter -> fragment -> dynamic listview, but im not the author. there is some bugs, but at least it works

public class CustomPager extends ViewPager {

            super.onMeasure(widthMeasureSpec, heightMeasureSpec);
            return;
        }
        int height = 0;
        mCurrentView.measure(widthMeasureSpec, MeasureSpec.makeMeasureSpec(0, MeasureSpec.UNSPECIFIED));
        int h = mCurrentView.getMeasuredHeight();

Using Chrome, how to find to which events are bound to an element

You can also use Chrome's inspector to find attached events another way, as follows:

  1. Right click on the element to inspect, or find it in the 'Elements' pane.
  2. Then in the 'Event Listeners' tab/pane, expand the event (eg 'click')
  3. Expand the various sub-nodes to find the one you want, and then look for where the 'handler' sub-node is.
  4. Right click the word 'function', and then click 'Show function definition'

This will take you to where the handler was defined, as demonstrated in the following image, and explained by Paul Irish here: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/google-chrome-developer-tools/NTcIS15uigA

How to get selenium to wait for ajax response?

I had a similar situation, i wanted to wait for ajax requests so that the loading panel would have disappeared, I have inspected the html before and after the requests, found that there is a div for the ajax loading panel, the dix is displayed during the ajax request, and hidden after the request ends. I have created a function to wait for the panel to be displayed, then wait for it to be hidden

public void WaitForModalPanel() { string element_xpath = ".//*[@id='ajaxLoadingModalPanelContainer' and not(contains(@style,'display: none'))]"; WebDriverWait wait = new WebDriverWait(driver, new TimeSpan(0, 2, 0)); wait.Until(ExpectedConditions.ElementIsVisible(By.XPath(element_xpath))); element_xpath = ".//*[@id='ajaxLoadingModalPanelContainer' and contains(@style,'DISPLAY: none')]"; wait.Until(ExpectedConditions.ElementExists(By.XPath(element_xpath))); }

How to remove line breaks from a file in Java?

String text = readFileAsString("textfile.txt").replaceAll("\n", "");

Even though the definition of trim() in oracle website is "Returns a copy of the string, with leading and trailing whitespace omitted."

the documentation omits to say that new line characters (leading and trailing) will also be removed.

In short String text = readFileAsString("textfile.txt").trim(); will also work for you. (Checked with Java 6)

Change background color on mouseover and remove it after mouseout

With jQuery, usually it is better to create a specific class for this style:

.forum_hover { background-color: #380606; }

and then apply the class on mouseover, and remove it on mouseout.

$('.forum').hover(function(){$(this).toggleClass('forum_hover');});

How to include *.so library in Android Studio?

To use native-library (so files) You need to add some codes in the "build.gradle" file.

This code is for cleaing "armeabi" directory and copying 'so' files into "armeabi" while 'clean project'.

task copyJniLibs(type: Copy) {
    from 'libs/armeabi'
    into 'src/main/jniLibs/armeabi'
}
tasks.withType(JavaCompile) {
    compileTask -> compileTask.dependsOn(copyJniLibs)
}

How do I keep a label centered in WinForms?

Some minor additional content for setting programmatically:

Label textLabel = new Label() {
        AutoSize = false,
        TextAlign = ContentAlignment.MiddleCenter,
        Dock = DockStyle.None,
        Left = 10,
        Width = myDialog.Width - 10
};

Dockstyle and Content alignment may differ from your needs. For example, for a simple label on a wpf form I use DockStyle.None.

How to specify the private SSH-key to use when executing shell command on Git?

You could use GIT_SSH environment variable. But you will need to wrap ssh and options into a shell script.

See git manual: man git in your command shell.

Clone() vs Copy constructor- which is recommended in java

Have in mind that clone() doesn't work out of the box. You will have to implement Cloneable and override the clone() method making in public.

There are a few alternatives, which are preferable (since the clone() method has lots of design issues, as stated in other answers), and the copy-constructor would require manual work:

Sort ArrayList of custom Objects by property

You could also use Springs PropertyComparator if you have just a String property path to the (nested) property you want to sort:

List<SomeObject> list = ...;
PropertyComparator<HitWithInfo> propertyComparator = new PropertyComparator<>(
    "property.nested.myProperty", false, true);
list.sort(propertyComparator);

The drawback is, that this comparator silently ignores properties which does not exist or are not accessible and handles this as null value for comparison. This means, you should carefully test such a comparator or validate the existence of the property path somehow.

How to get Spinner selected item value to string?

If your Spinner was populated by SQLite cursor, then the solution is:

Spinner mySpin = (Spinner) findViewById(R.id.myspin);
mySpin.setOnItemSelectedListener(new AdapterView.OnItemSelectedListener() {
@Override
public void onItemSelected(AdapterView<?> parent, View view, int position, long id) {
           SQLiteCursor item = (SQLiteCursor) parent.getItemAtPosition(position);
           String value = String.valueOf(item.getString(0));
           Toast.makeText(getApplicationContext(), "The option is:" + value , Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show();
 }

PS: In item.getString(0) -> 0 is the index of column on cursor that you want to get.

(Built-in) way in JavaScript to check if a string is a valid number

Well, I'm using this one I made...

It's been working so far:

function checkNumber(value) {
    return value % 1 == 0;
}

If you spot any problem with it, tell me, please.

Hashmap does not work with int, char

Generics can't use primitive types in the form of keywords.

Use

public HashMap<Character, Integer> buildMap(String letters)
{
    HashMap<Character, Integer> checkSum = new HashMap<Character, Integer>();

    for ( int i = 0; i < letters.length(); ++i )
    {
        checkSum.put(letters.charAt(i), primes[i]);
    }

    return checkSum;
}

Updated: With Java 7 and later, you can use the diamond operator.

HashMap<Character, Integer> checkSum = new HashMap<>();

HTML5 video - show/hide controls programmatically

CARL LANGE also showed how to get hidden, autoplaying audio in html5 on a iOS device. Works for me.

In HTML,

<div id="hideme">
    <audio id="audioTag" controls>
        <source src="/path/to/audio.mp3">
    </audio>
</div>

with JS

<script type="text/javascript">
window.onload = function() {
    var audioEl = document.getElementById("audioTag");
    audioEl.load();
    audioEl.play();
};
</script>

In CSS,

#hideme {display: none;}

How do I check whether a checkbox is checked in jQuery?

This example is for button.

Try the following:

<input type="button" class="check" id="checkall" value="Check All" />  &nbsp; <input type="button" id="remove" value="Delete" /> <br/>

<input type="checkbox" class="cb-element"  value="1" /> Checkbox  1 <br/>
<input type="checkbox" class="cb-element"  value="2" /> Checkbox  2 <br/>
<input type="checkbox" class="cb-element"  value="3" /> Checkbox  3 <br/>

$('#remove').attr('disabled', 'disabled');

$(document).ready(function() {

    $('.cb-element').click(function() {

        if($(this).prop('checked'))
        {
            $('#remove').attr('disabled', false);
        }
        else
        {
            $('#remove').attr('disabled', true);
        }
    });

    $('.check:button').click(function()
{
    var checked = !$(this).data('checked');
    $('input:checkbox').prop('checked', checked);
    $(this).data('checked', checked);

    if(checked == true)
    {
        $(this).val('Uncheck All');
         $('#remove').attr('disabled', false);

Permission to write to the SD card

The suggested technique above in Dave's answer is certainly a good design practice, and yes ultimately the required permission must be set in the AndroidManifest.xml file to access the external storage.

However, the Mono-esque way to add most (if not all, not sure) "manifest options" is through the attributes of the class implementing the activity (or service).

The Visual Studio Mono plugin automatically generates the manifest, so its best not to manually tamper with it (I'm sure there are cases where there is no other option).

For example:

[Activity(Label="MonoDroid App", MainLauncher=true, Permission="android.permission.WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE")]
public class MonoActivity : Activity
{
  protected override void OnCreate(Bundle bindle)
  {
    base.OnCreate(bindle);
  }
}

Git: Installing Git in PATH with GitHub client for Windows

GitHub for Windows does indeed install its own version of Git, but it doesn't add it to the PATH variable, which is easy enough to do. Here's instructions on how to do it:

  1. Get the Git URL

    We need to get the url of the Git \cmd directory your computer. Git is located here:

    C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\GitHub\PortableGit_<guid>\cmd\git.exe

    So on your computer, replace <user> with your user and find out what the <guid> is for your computer. (The guid may change each time GitHub updates PortableGit, but they're working on a solution to that.)

    Copy it and paste it into a command prompt (right-click > paste to paste in the terminal) to verify that it works. You should see the Git help response that lists common Git commands. If you see The system cannot find the path specified. Then the URL isn’t right. Once you have it right, create the link to the directory using this format:

    ;C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\GitHub\PortableGit_<guid>\cmd

    (Note: \cmd at the end, not \cmd\git.exe anymore!)

    On my system, it’s this, yours will be different:

    ;C:\Users\brenton\AppData\Local\GitHub\PortableGit_7eaa494e16ae7b397b2422033as45d8ff6ac2010\cmd

  2. Edit the PATH Variable

    Navigate to the Environmental Variables Editor (instructions) and find the Path variable in the “System Variables” section. Click Edit… and paste the URL of Git to the end of that string. Save! It might be easier to pull this into Notepad to do the edit, just make sure you put one semicolon before you paste in the URL. If it doesn't work it’s probably because this path got messed up either with a space in there somewhere (should be no spaces around the semicolon) or a semicolon at the end (semicolons should only separate URLs, no semicolon at beginning or end of string).

If it worked, you should be able to close & reopen a terminal and type git and it will give you that same git help file. Then installing the Linter should work. (Atom > File > Settings > Packages > Linter)

How to detect string which contains only spaces?

The fastest solution would be using the regex prototype function test() and looking for any character that is not a space, tab, or line break \S :

if (!/\S/.test(str)) {
  // Didn't find something other than a space which means it's empty
}

In case you have a super long string, it can make a significant difference as it will stop processing as soon as it finds a non-space character.

Java regex capturing groups indexes

For The Rest Of Us

Here is a simple and clear example of how this works

Regex: ([a-zA-Z0-9]+)([\s]+)([a-zA-Z ]+)([\s]+)([0-9]+)

String: "!* UserName10 John Smith 01123 *!"

group(0): UserName10 John Smith 01123
group(1): UserName10
group(2):
group(3): John Smith
group(4):
group(5): 01123

As you can see, I have created FIVE groups which are each enclosed in parentheses.

I included the !* and *! on either side to make it clearer. Note that none of those characters are in the RegEx and therefore will not be produced in the results. Group(0) merely gives you the entire matched string (all of my search criteria in one single line). Group 1 stops right before the first space because the space character was not included in the search criteria. Groups 2 and 4 are simply the white space, which in this case is literally a space character, but could also be a tab or a line feed etc. Group 3 includes the space because I put it in the search criteria ... etc.

Hope this makes sense.

ImageMagick security policy 'PDF' blocking conversion

As pointed out in some comments, you need to edit the policies of ImageMagick in /etc/ImageMagick-7/policy.xml. More particularly, in ArchLinux at the time of writing (05/01/2019) the following line is uncommented:

<policy domain="coder" rights="none" pattern="{PS,PS2,PS3,EPS,PDF,XPS}" />

Just wrap it between <!-- and --> to comment it, and pdf conversion should work again.

How to get the date from jQuery UI datepicker

I just made some web scraping to discover the behaviour of JequeryUI datepicker, it was necessary for me because I'm not familiar with JS object so:

var month = $(".ui-datepicker-current-day").attr("data-month");
var year = $(".ui-datepicker-current-day").attr("data-year");
var day = $(".ui-state-active").text();

it just pick the value in relation of the changing of class, so you can implement the onchange event:

$(document).on('change', '#datepicker', function() {
    var month = $(".ui-datepicker-current-day").attr("data-month");
    var year = $(".ui-datepicker-current-day").attr("data-year");
    var day= $(".ui-state-active").text();
   $("#chosenday").text( day + " " + month  + " " + year )  ;

});

or check if the current day is selected:

   if( $("a").hasClass("ui-state-active") ){
     var month = $(".ui-datepicker-current-day").attr("data-month");
     var year = $(".ui-datepicker-current-day").attr("data-year");
     var day= $(".ui-state-active").text();
     $("#chosenday").text( day + " " + month  + " " + year );
    }

Can't specify the 'async' modifier on the 'Main' method of a console app

You can solve this with this simple construct:

class Program
{
    static void Main(string[] args)
    {
        Task.Run(async () =>
        {
            // Do any async anything you need here without worry
        }).GetAwaiter().GetResult();
    }
}

That will put everything you do out on the ThreadPool where you'd want it (so other Tasks you start/await don't attempt to rejoin a Thread they shouldn't), and wait until everything's done before closing the Console app. No need for special loops or outside libs.

Edit: Incorporate Andrew's solution for uncaught Exceptions.

Check an integer value is Null in c#

Several things:

Age is not an integer - it is a nullable integer type. They are not the same. See the documentation for Nullable<T> on MSDN for details.

?? is the null coalesce operator, not the ternary operator (actually called the conditional operator).

To check if a nullable type has a value use HasValue, or check directly against null:

if(Age.HasValue)
{
   // Yay, it does!
}

if(Age == null)
{
   // It is null :(
}

Why is it important to override GetHashCode when Equals method is overridden?

It's not necessarily important; it depends on the size of your collections and your performance requirements and whether your class will be used in a library where you may not know the performance requirements. I frequently know my collection sizes are not very large and my time is more valuable than a few microseconds of performance gained by creating a perfect hash code; so (to get rid of the annoying warning by the compiler) I simply use:

   public override int GetHashCode()
   {
      return base.GetHashCode();
   }

(Of course I could use a #pragma to turn off the warning as well but I prefer this way.)

When you are in the position that you do need the performance than all of the issues mentioned by others here apply, of course. Most important - otherwise you will get wrong results when retrieving items from a hash set or dictionary: the hash code must not vary with the life time of an object (more accurately, during the time whenever the hash code is needed, such as while being a key in a dictionary): for example, the following is wrong as Value is public and so can be changed externally to the class during the life time of the instance, so you must not use it as the basis for the hash code:

   class A
   {
      public int Value;

      public override int GetHashCode()
      {
         return Value.GetHashCode(); //WRONG! Value is not constant during the instance's life time
      }
   }

On the other hand, if Value can't be changed it's ok to use:

   class A
   {
      public readonly int Value;

      public override int GetHashCode()
      {
         return Value.GetHashCode(); //OK Value is read-only and can't be changed during the instance's life time
      }
   }

mysql query result into php array

What about this:

while ($row = mysql_fetch_array($result))
{
    $new_array[$row['id']]['id'] = $row['id'];
    $new_array[$row['id']]['link'] = $row['link'];
}

To retrieve link and id:

foreach($new_array as $array)
{
   echo $array['id'].'<br />';
   echo $array['link'].'<br />';
}

Can MySQL convert a stored UTC time to local timezone?

select convert_tz(now(),@@session.time_zone,'+03:00')

For get the time only use:

time(convert_tz(now(),@@session.time_zone,'+03:00'))

Combining node.js and Python

I'd recommend using some work queue using, for example, the excellent Gearman, which will provide you with a great way to dispatch background jobs, and asynchronously get their result once they're processed.

The advantage of this, used heavily at Digg (among many others) is that it provides a strong, scalable and robust way to make workers in any language to speak with clients in any language.

How to insert a timestamp in Oracle?

One can simply use

INSERT INTO MY_TABLE(MY_TIMESTAMP_FIELD)
VALUES (TIMESTAMP '2019-02-15 13:22:11.871+02:00');

This way you won't have to worry about date format string, just use default timestamp format.

Works with Oracle 11, have no idea if it does for earlier Oracle versions.

Apply function to pandas groupby

apply takes a function to apply to each value, not the series, and accepts kwargs. So, the values do not have the .size() method.

Perhaps this would work:

from pandas import *

d = {"my_label": Series(['A','B','A','C','D','D','E'])}
df = DataFrame(d)

def as_perc(value, total):
    return value/float(total)

def get_count(values):
    return len(values)

grouped_count = df.groupby("my_label").my_label.agg(get_count)
data = grouped_count.apply(as_perc, total=df.my_label.count())

The .agg() method here takes a function that is applied to all values of the groupby object.

Accidentally committed .idea directory files into git

You should add a .gitignore file to your project and add /.idea to it. You should add each directory / file in one line.

If you have an existing .gitignore file then you should simply add a new line to the file and put /.idea to the new line.

After that run git rm -r --cached .idea command.

If you faced an error you can run git rm -r -f --cached .idea command. After all run git add . and then git commit -m "Removed .idea directory and added a .gitignore file" and finally push the changes by running git push command.

How to set OnClickListener on a RadioButton in Android?

You could also add listener from XML layout: android:onClick="onRadioButtonClicked" in your <RadioButton/> tag.

<RadioButton android:id="@+id/radio_pirates"
    android:layout_width="wrap_content"
    android:layout_height="wrap_content"
    android:text="@string/pirates"
    android:onClick="onRadioButtonClicked"/>

how to make window.open pop up Modal?

I was able to make parent window disable. However making the pop-up always keep raised didn't work. Below code works even for frame tags. Just add id and class property to frame tag and it works well there too.

In parent window use:

<head>
<style>
.disableWin{
     pointer-events: none;
}
</style>
<script type="text/javascript">
    function openPopUp(url) {
      disableParentWin();
      var win = window.open(url);
      win.focus();
      checkPopUpClosed(win);
    }
    /*Function to detect pop up is closed and take action to enable parent window*/
   function checkPopUpClosed(win) {
         var timer = setInterval(function() {
              if(win.closed) {
                  clearInterval(timer);
                  enableParentWin();
              }
          }, 1000);
     }
     /*Function to enable parent window*/
     function enableParentWin() {
          window.document.getElementById('mainDiv').class="";
     }
     /*Function to enable parent window*/
     function disableParentWin() {
          window.document.getElementById('mainDiv').class="disableWin";
     }

</script>
</head>

How to do constructor chaining in C#

I hope following example shed some light on constructor chaining.
my use case here for example, you are expecting user to pass a directory to your constructor, user doesn't know what directory to pass and decides to let you assign default directory. you step up and assign a default directory that you think will work.

BTW, I used LINQPad for this example in case you are wondering what *.Dump() is.
cheers

void Main()
{

    CtorChaining ctorNoparam = new CtorChaining();
    ctorNoparam.Dump();
    //Result --> BaseDir C:\Program Files (x86)\Default\

    CtorChaining ctorOneparam = new CtorChaining("c:\\customDir");
    ctorOneparam.Dump();
    //Result --> BaseDir c:\customDir
}

public class CtorChaining
{
    public string BaseDir;
    public static string DefaultDir = @"C:\Program Files (x86)\Default\";

    public CtorChaining(): this(null) {}

    public CtorChaining(string baseDir): this(baseDir, DefaultDir){}

    public CtorChaining(string baseDir, string defaultDir)
    {
        //if baseDir == null, this.BaseDir = @"C:\Program Files (x86)\Default\"
        this.BaseDir = baseDir ?? defaultDir;
    }
}

Is it possible to run one logrotate check manually?

Show datalist labels but submit the actual value

Note that datalist is not the same as a select. It allows users to enter a custom value that is not in the list, and it would be impossible to fetch an alternate value for such input without defining it first.

Possible ways to handle user input are to submit the entered value as is, submit a blank value, or prevent submitting. This answer handles only the first two options.

If you want to disallow user input entirely, maybe select would be a better choice.

To show only the text value of the option in the dropdown, we use the inner text for it and leave out the value attribute. The actual value that we want to send along is stored in a custom data-value attribute:

To submit this data-value we have to use an <input type="hidden">. In this case we leave out the name="answer" on the regular input and move it to the hidden copy.

<input list="suggestionList" id="answerInput">
<datalist id="suggestionList">
    <option data-value="42">The answer</option>
</datalist>
<input type="hidden" name="answer" id="answerInput-hidden">

This way, when the text in the original input changes we can use javascript to check if the text also present in the datalist and fetch its data-value. That value is inserted into the hidden input and submitted.

document.querySelector('input[list]').addEventListener('input', function(e) {
    var input = e.target,
        list = input.getAttribute('list'),
        options = document.querySelectorAll('#' + list + ' option'),
        hiddenInput = document.getElementById(input.getAttribute('id') + '-hidden'),
        inputValue = input.value;

    hiddenInput.value = inputValue;

    for(var i = 0; i < options.length; i++) {
        var option = options[i];

        if(option.innerText === inputValue) {
            hiddenInput.value = option.getAttribute('data-value');
            break;
        }
    }
});

The id answer and answer-hidden on the regular and hidden input are needed for the script to know which input belongs to which hidden version. This way it's possible to have multiple inputs on the same page with one or more datalists providing suggestions.

Any user input is submitted as is. To submit an empty value when the user input is not present in the datalist, change hiddenInput.value = inputValue to hiddenInput.value = ""

sqlite database default time value 'now'

This is a full example based on the other answers and comments to the question. In the example the timestamp (created_at-column) is saved as unix epoch UTC timezone and converted to local timezone only when necessary.

Using unix epoch saves storage space - 4 bytes integer vs. 24 bytes string when stored as ISO8601 string, see datatypes. If 4 bytes is not enough that can be increased to 6 or 8 bytes.

Saving timestamp on UTC timezone makes it convenient to show a reasonable value on multiple timezones.

SQLite version is 3.8.6 that ships with Ubuntu LTS 14.04.

,('bar')

2 |bar |1412097842|2014-09-30 17:24:02|2014-09-30 20:24:02

Localtime is correct as I'm located at UTC+2 DST at the moment of the query.

Determining 32 vs 64 bit in C++

"Compiled in 64 bit" is not well defined in C++.

C++ sets only lower limits for sizes such as int, long and void *. There is no guarantee that int is 64 bit even when compiled for a 64 bit platform. The model allows for e.g. 23 bit ints and sizeof(int *) != sizeof(char *)

There are different programming models for 64 bit platforms.

Your best bet is a platform specific test. Your second best, portable decision must be more specific in what is 64 bit.

Create a branch in Git from another branch

Git 2.23 introduces git switch and git restore to split the responsibilities of git checkout

Creating a new branch from an existing branch as of git 2.23:

git switch -c my-new-branch

Switched to a new branch 'my-new-branch'

  • -c is short for --create and replaces the well-known git checkout -b

Take a look at this Github blog post explaining the changes in greater detail:

Git 2.23 brings a new pair of experimental commands to the suite of existing ones: git switch and git restore. These two are meant to eventually provide a better interface for the well-known git checkout. The new commands intend to each have a clear separation, neatly divvying up what the many responsibilities of git checkout

Why are only final variables accessible in anonymous class?

When an anonymous inner class is defined within the body of a method, all variables declared final in the scope of that method are accessible from within the inner class. For scalar values, once it has been assigned, the value of the final variable cannot change. For object values, the reference cannot change. This allows the Java compiler to "capture" the value of the variable at run-time and store a copy as a field in the inner class. Once the outer method has terminated and its stack frame has been removed, the original variable is gone but the inner class's private copy persists in the class's own memory.

How do I specify different layouts for portrait and landscape orientations?

Create a layout-land directory and put the landscape version of your layout XML file in that directory.

Make function wait until element exists

You can check if the dom already exists by setting a timeout until it is already rendered in the dom.

var panelMainWrapper = document.getElementById('panelMainWrapper');
setTimeout(function waitPanelMainWrapper() {
    if (document.body.contains(panelMainWrapper)) {
        $("#panelMainWrapper").html(data).fadeIn("fast");
    } else {
        setTimeout(waitPanelMainWrapper, 10);
    }
}, 10);

How to remove lines in a Matplotlib plot

I've tried lots of different answers in different forums. I guess it depends on the machine your developing. But I haved used the statement

ax.lines = []

and works perfectly. I don't use cla() cause it deletes all the definitions I've made to the plot

Ex.

pylab.setp(_self.ax.get_yticklabels(), fontsize=8)

but I've tried deleting the lines many times. Also using the weakref library to check the reference to that line while I was deleting but nothing worked for me.

Hope this works for someone else =D

Checking whether a variable is an integer or not

In the presence of numpy check like ..

isinstance(var, numbers.Integral)

.. (slow) or ..

isinstance(var, (int, long, np.integer))

.. in order to match all type variants like np.int8, np.uint16, ...

(Drop long in PY3)

Recognizing ANY integer-like object from anywhere is a tricky guessing game. Checking

var & 0 == 0

for truth and non-exception may be a good bet. Similarly, checking for signed integer type exclusively:

var ^ -1 ==  -var - 1

How to install and run phpize

Hmm... actually i dont know how this solved it? But the following steps solved it for me:

find / -name 'config.m4'

Now look if the config.m4 is anywhere in a folder of that stuff you want to phpize. Go to that folder and run phpize directly in there.

Find Java classes implementing an interface

Package Level Annotations

I know this question has already been answered a long time ago but another solution to this problem is to use Package Level Annotations.

While its pretty hard to go find all the classes in the JVM its actually pretty easy to browse the package hierarchy.

Package[] ps = Package.getPackages();
for (Package p : ps) {
  MyAno a = p.getAnnotation(MyAno.class)
  // Recursively descend
}

Then just make your annotation have an argument of an array of Class. Then in your package-info.java for a particular package put the MyAno.

I'll add more details (code) if people are interested but most probably get the idea.

MetaInf Service Loader

To add to @erickson answer you can also use the service loader approach. Kohsuke has an awesome way of generating the the required META-INF stuff you need for the service loader approach:

syntax error near unexpected token `('

Since you've got both the shell that you're typing into and the shell that sudo -s runs, you need to quote or escape twice. (EDITED fixed quoting)

sudo -su db2inst1 '/opt/ibm/db2/V9.7/bin/db2 force application \(1995\)'

or

sudo -su db2inst1 /opt/ibm/db2/V9.7/bin/db2 force application \\\(1995\\\)

Out of curiosity, why do you need -s? Can't you just do this:

sudo -u db2inst1 /opt/ibm/db2/V9.7/bin/db2 force application \(1995\)

Remove an item from array using UnderscoreJS

Please exercise care if you are filtering strings and looking for case insensitive filters. _.without() is case sensitive. You can also use _.reject() as shown below.

var arr = ["test","test1","test2"];

var filtered = _.filter(arr, function(arrItem) {
    return arrItem.toLowerCase() !== "TEST".toLowerCase();
});
console.log(filtered);
// ["test1", "test2"]

var filtered1 = _.without(arr,"TEST");
console.log(filtered1);
// ["test", "test1", "test2"]

var filtered2 = _.reject(arr, function(arrItem){
    return arrItem.toLowerCase() === "TEST".toLowerCase();
});
console.log(filtered2);
// ["test1", "test2"]

Is there a Python equivalent to Ruby's string interpolation?

Python 3.6 will add literal string interpolation similar to Ruby's string interpolation. Starting with that version of Python (which is scheduled to be released by the end of 2016), you will be able to include expressions in "f-strings", e.g.

name = "Spongebob Squarepants"
print(f"Who lives in a Pineapple under the sea? {name}.")

Prior to 3.6, the closest you can get to this is

name = "Spongebob Squarepants"
print("Who lives in a Pineapple under the sea? %(name)s." % locals())

The % operator can be used for string interpolation in Python. The first operand is the string to be interpolated, the second can have different types including a "mapping", mapping field names to the values to be interpolated. Here I used the dictionary of local variables locals() to map the field name name to its value as a local variable.

The same code using the .format() method of recent Python versions would look like this:

name = "Spongebob Squarepants"
print("Who lives in a Pineapple under the sea? {name!s}.".format(**locals()))

There is also the string.Template class:

tmpl = string.Template("Who lives in a Pineapple under the sea? $name.")
print(tmpl.substitute(name="Spongebob Squarepants"))

In Excel how to get the left 5 characters of each cell in a specified column and put them into a new column

Have you tried using the "auto-fill" in Excel?

If you have an entire column of items you put the formula in the first cell, make sure you get the result you desire and then you can do the copy/paste, or use auto fill which is an option that sits on the bottom right corner of the cell.

You go to that corner in the cell and once your cursor changes to a "+", you can double-click on it and it should populate all the way down to the last entry (as long as there are no populated cells, that is).

CSS Transition doesn't work with top, bottom, left, right

I ran into this issue today. Here is my hacky solution.

I needed a fixed position element to transition up by 100 pixels as it loaded.

var delay = (ms) => new Promise(res => setTimeout(res, ms));
async function animateView(startPosition,elm){
  for(var i=0; i<101; i++){
    elm.style.top = `${(startPosition-i)}px`;
    await delay(1);
  }
}

How to get pandas.DataFrame columns containing specific dtype

dtypes is a Pandas Series. That means it contains index & values attributes. If you only need the column names:

headers = df.dtypes.index

it will return a list containing the column names of "df" dataframe.

PHP Redirect with POST data

I'm aware the question is php oriented, but the best way to redirect a POST request is probably using .htaccess, ie:

RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} string_to_match_in_url
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_METHOD} POST
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ https://domain.tld/$1 [L,R=307]

Explanation:

By default, if you want to redirect request with POST data, browser redirects it via GET with 302 redirect. This also drops all the POST data associated with the request. Browser does this as a precaution to prevent any unintentional re-submitting of POST transaction.

But what if you want to redirect anyway POST request with it’s data? In HTTP 1.1, there is a status code for this. Status code 307 indicates that the request should be repeated with the same HTTP method and data. So your POST request will be repeated along with it’s data if you use this status code.

How do I mock an open used in a with statement (using the Mock framework in Python)?

I might be a bit late to the game, but this worked for me when calling open in another module without having to create a new file.

test.py

import unittest
from mock import Mock, patch, mock_open
from MyObj import MyObj

class TestObj(unittest.TestCase):
    open_ = mock_open()
    with patch.object(__builtin__, "open", open_):
        ref = MyObj()
        ref.save("myfile.txt")
    assert open_.call_args_list == [call("myfile.txt", "wb")]

MyObj.py

class MyObj(object):
    def save(self, filename):
        with open(filename, "wb") as f:
            f.write("sample text")

By patching the open function inside the __builtin__ module to my mock_open(), I can mock writing to a file without creating one.

Note: If you are using a module that uses cython, or your program depends on cython in any way, you will need to import cython's __builtin__ module by including import __builtin__ at the top of your file. You will not be able to mock the universal __builtin__ if you are using cython.

How to pass IEnumerable list to controller in MVC including checkbox state?

Use a list instead and replace your foreach loop with a for loop:

@model IList<BlockedIPViewModel>

@using (Html.BeginForm())
{
    @Html.AntiForgeryToken()

    @for (var i = 0; i < Model.Count; i++)
    {
        <tr>
            <td>
                @Html.HiddenFor(x => x[i].IP)
                @Html.CheckBoxFor(x => x[i].Checked)
            </td>
            <td>
                @Html.DisplayFor(x => x[i].IP)
            </td>
        </tr>
    }
    <div>
        <input type="submit" value="Unblock IPs" />
    </div>
}

Alternatively you could use an editor template:

@model IEnumerable<BlockedIPViewModel>

@using (Html.BeginForm())
{
    @Html.AntiForgeryToken()
    @Html.EditorForModel()
    <div>
        <input type="submit" value="Unblock IPs" />
    </div>
}

and then define the template ~/Views/Shared/EditorTemplates/BlockedIPViewModel.cshtml which will automatically be rendered for each element of the collection:

@model BlockedIPViewModel
<tr>
    <td>
        @Html.HiddenFor(x => x.IP)
        @Html.CheckBoxFor(x => x.Checked)
    </td>
    <td>
        @Html.DisplayFor(x => x.IP)
    </td>
</tr>

The reason you were getting null in your controller is because you didn't respect the naming convention for your input fields that the default model binder expects to successfully bind to a list. I invite you to read the following article.

Once you have read it, look at the generated HTML (and more specifically the names of the input fields) with my example and yours. Then compare and you will understand why yours doesn't work.

The mysql extension is deprecated and will be removed in the future: use mysqli or PDO instead

  1. Why is this happening?

    The entire ext/mysql PHP extension, which provides all functions named with the prefix mysql_, was officially deprecated in PHP v5.5.0 and removed in PHP v7.

    It was originally introduced in PHP v2.0 (November 1997) for MySQL v3.20, and no new features have been added since 2006. Coupled with the lack of new features are difficulties in maintaining such old code amidst complex security vulnerabilities.

    The manual has contained warnings against its use in new code since June 2011.

  2. How can I fix it?

    As the error message suggests, there are two other MySQL extensions that you can consider: MySQLi and PDO_MySQL, either of which can be used instead of ext/mysql. Both have been in PHP core since v5.0, so if you're using a version that is throwing these deprecation errors then you can almost certainly just start using them right away—i.e. without any installation effort.

    They differ slightly, but offer a number of advantages over the old extension including API support for transactions, stored procedures and prepared statements (thereby providing the best way to defeat SQL injection attacks). PHP developer Ulf Wendel has written a thorough comparison of the features.

    Hashphp.org has an excellent tutorial on migrating from ext/mysql to PDO.

  3. I understand that it's possible to suppress deprecation errors by setting error_reporting in php.ini to exclude E_DEPRECATED:

    error_reporting = E_ALL ^ E_DEPRECATED

    What will happen if I do that?

    Yes, it is possible to suppress such error messages and continue using the old ext/mysql extension for the time being. But you really shouldn't do this—this is a final warning from the developers that the extension may not be bundled with future versions of PHP (indeed, as already mentioned, it has been removed from PHP v7). Instead, you should take this opportunity to migrate your application now, before it's too late.

    Note also that this technique will suppress all E_DEPRECATED messages, not just those to do with the ext/mysql extension: therefore you may be unaware of other upcoming changes to PHP that would affect your application code. It is, of course, possible to only suppress errors that arise on the expression at issue by using PHP's error control operator—i.e. prepending the relevant line with @—however this will suppress all errors raised by that expression, not just E_DEPRECATED ones.

What should you do?

  • You are starting a new project.

    There is absolutely no reason to use ext/mysql—choose one of the other, more modern, extensions instead and reap the rewards of the benefits they offer.

  • You have (your own) legacy codebase that currently depends upon ext/mysql.

    It would be wise to perform regression testing: you really shouldn't be changing anything (especially upgrading PHP) until you have identified all of the potential areas of impact, planned around each of them and then thoroughly tested your solution in a staging environment.

    • Following good coding practice, your application was developed in a loosely integrated/modular fashion and the database access methods are all self-contained in one place that can easily be swapped out for one of the new extensions.

      Spend half an hour rewriting this module to use one of the other, more modern, extensions; test thoroughly. You can later introduce further refinements to reap the rewards of the benefits they offer.

    • The database access methods are scattered all over the place and cannot easily be swapped out for one of the new extensions.

      Consider whether you really need to upgrade to PHP v5.5 at this time.

      You should begin planning to replace ext/mysql with one of the other, more modern, extensions in order that you can reap the rewards of the benefits they offer; you might also use it as an opportunity to refactor your database access methods into a more modular structure.

      However, if you have an urgent need to upgrade PHP right away, you might consider suppressing deprecation errors for the time being: but first be sure to identify any other deprecation errors that are also being thrown.

  • You are using a third party project that depends upon ext/mysql.

    Consider whether you really need to upgrade to PHP v5.5 at this time.

    Check whether the developer has released any fixes, workarounds or guidance in relation to this specific issue; or, if not, pressure them to do so by bringing this matter to their attention. If you have an urgent need to upgrade PHP right away, you might consider suppressing deprecation errors for the time being: but first be sure to identify any other deprecation errors that are also being thrown.

    It is absolutely essential to perform regression testing.

ElasticSearch - Return Unique Values

If you want to get all unique values without any approximation or setting a magic number (size: 500), then use COMPOSITE AGGREGATION (ES 6.5+).

From official documentation:

"If you want to retrieve all terms or all combinations of terms in a nested terms aggregation you should use the COMPOSITE AGGREGATION which allows to paginate over all possible terms rather than setting a size greater than the cardinality of the field in the terms aggregation. The terms aggregation is meant to return the top terms and does not allow pagination."

How to set border's thickness in percentages?

Modern browsers support vh and vw units, which are a percentage of the window viewport.

So you can have pure CSS borders as a percentage of the window size:

border: 5vw solid red;

Try this example and change window width; the border will change thickness as the window changes size. box-sizing: border-box; may be useful too.

How do I hide javascript code in a webpage?

My solution is inspired from the last comment. This is the code of invisible.html

<script src="http://code.jquery.com/jquery-1.8.2.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript" src="invisible_debut.js" ></script>
<body>
</body>

The clear code of invisible_debut.js is:

$(document).ready(function () {
var ga = document.createElement("script"); //ga is to remember Google Analytics ;-)
ga.type = 'text/javascript';
ga.src = 'invisible.js';
ga.id = 'invisible';
document.body.appendChild(ga);
$('#invisible').remove();});

Notice that at the end I'm removing the created script. invisible.js is:

$(document).ready(function(){
    alert('try to find in the source the js script which did this alert!');
    document.write('It disappeared, my dear!');});

invisible.js doesn't appear in the console, because it has been removed and never in the source code because created by javascript.

Concerning invisible_debut.js, I obfuscated it, which means that it is very complicated to find the url of invisible.js. Not perfect, but enought hard for a normal hacker.

subsetting a Python DataFrame

I'll assume that Time and Product are columns in a DataFrame, df is an instance of DataFrame, and that other variables are scalar values:

For now, you'll have to reference the DataFrame instance:

k1 = df.loc[(df.Product == p_id) & (df.Time >= start_time) & (df.Time < end_time), ['Time', 'Product']]

The parentheses are also necessary, because of the precedence of the & operator vs. the comparison operators. The & operator is actually an overloaded bitwise operator which has the same precedence as arithmetic operators which in turn have a higher precedence than comparison operators.

In pandas 0.13 a new experimental DataFrame.query() method will be available. It's extremely similar to subset modulo the select argument:

With query() you'd do it like this:

df[['Time', 'Product']].query('Product == p_id and Month < mn and Year == yr')

Here's a simple example:

In [9]: df = DataFrame({'gender': np.random.choice(['m', 'f'], size=10), 'price': poisson(100, size=10)})

In [10]: df
Out[10]:
  gender  price
0      m     89
1      f    123
2      f    100
3      m    104
4      m     98
5      m    103
6      f    100
7      f    109
8      f     95
9      m     87

In [11]: df.query('gender == "m" and price < 100')
Out[11]:
  gender  price
0      m     89
4      m     98
9      m     87

The final query that you're interested will even be able to take advantage of chained comparisons, like this:

k1 = df[['Time', 'Product']].query('Product == p_id and start_time <= Time < end_time')
