The AWS Access Key Id does not exist in our records

This could happen because there's an issue with your AWS Secret Access Key. After messing around with AWS Amplify, I ran into this issue. The quickest way is to create a new pair of AWS Access Key ID and AWS Secret Access Key and run aws configure again. I works for me. I hope this helps.

Don't forget to import Config. Also If you have your own config class, then change its name.

from botocore.client import Config

Print all key/value pairs in a Java ConcurrentHashMap

Work 100% sure try this code for the get all hashmap key and value

static HashMap<String, String> map = new HashMap<>();

map.put("one"  " a " );
map.put("two"  " b " );
map.put("three"  " c " );
map.put("four"  " d " );

just call this method whenever you want to show the HashMap value

 private void ShowHashMapValue() {

        /**
         * get the Set Of keys from HashMap
         */
        Set setOfKeys = map.keySet();

/**
 * get the Iterator instance from Set
 */
        Iterator iterator = setOfKeys.iterator();

/**
 * Loop the iterator until we reach the last element of the HashMap
 */
        while (iterator.hasNext()) {
/**
 * next() method returns the next key from Iterator instance.
 * return type of next() method is Object so we need to do DownCasting to String
 */
            String key = (String) iterator.next();

/**
 * once we know the 'key', we can get the value from the HashMap
 * by calling get() method
 */
            String value = map.get(key);

            System.out.println("Key: " + key + ", Value: " + value);
        }
    }

Best way to move files between S3 buckets?

For new version aws2.

aws2 s3 sync s3://SOURCE_BUCKET_NAME s3://NEW_BUCKET_NAME

Downloading an entire S3 bucket?

You can use this AWS cli command to download entire S3 bucket content to local folder

aws s3 sync s3://your-bucket-name "Local Folder Path"

If you see error like this

fatal error: [SSL: CERTIFICATE_VERIFY_FAILED] certificate verify failed (_ssl.c:581)

--no-verify-ssl (boolean)

By default, the AWS CLI uses SSL when communicating with AWS services. For each SSL connection, the AWS CLI will verify SSL certificates. This option overrides the default behavior of verifying SSL certificates. reference

Use this tag with command --no-verify-ssl

aws s3 sync s3://your-bucket-name "Local Folder Path" --no-verify-ssl

AmazonS3 putObject with InputStream length example

Just passing the file object to the putobject method worked for me. If you are getting a stream, try writing it to a temp file before passing it on to S3.

amazonS3.putObject(bucketName, id,fileObject);

I am using Aws SDK v1.11.414

The answer at https://stackoverflow.com/a/35904801/2373449 helped me

Generate an integer that is not among four billion given ones

This can be solved in very little space using a variant of binary search.

  1. Start off with the allowed range of numbers, 0 to 4294967295.

  2. Calculate the midpoint.

  3. Loop through the file, counting how many numbers were equal, less than or higher than the midpoint value.

  4. If no numbers were equal, you're done. The midpoint number is the answer.

  5. Otherwise, choose the range that had the fewest numbers and repeat from step 2 with this new range.

This will require up to 32 linear scans through the file, but it will only use a few bytes of memory for storing the range and the counts.

This is essentially the same as Henning's solution, except it uses two bins instead of 16k.

How to declare array of zeros in python (or an array of a certain size)

And then use the Histogram library function

How to convert Excel values into buckets?

Another method to create this would be using the if conditionals...meaning you would reference a cell that has a value and depending on that value it will give you the bucket such as small.

For example, =if(b2>30,"large",if(b2>20,"medium",if(b2>=10,"small",if(b2<10,"tiny",""))))

So if cell b2 had a value of 12, then it will return the word small.

Hope this was what you're looking for.

Hashset vs Treeset

1.HashSet allows null object.

2.TreeSet will not allow null object. If you try to add null value it will throw a NullPointerException.

3.HashSet is much faster than TreeSet.

e.g.

 TreeSet<String> ts = new TreeSet<String>();
 ts.add(null); // throws NullPointerException

 HashSet<String> hs = new HashSet<String>();
 hs.add(null); // runs fine

How can I print the contents of a hash in Perl?

If you want to be pedantic and keep it to one line (without use statements and shebang), then I'll sort of piggy back off of tetromino's answer and suggest:

print Dumper( { 'abc' => 123, 'def' => [4,5,6] } );

Not doing anything special other than using the anonymous hash to skip the temp variable ;)

Why should hash functions use a prime number modulus?

tl;dr

index[hash(input)%2] would result in a collision for half of all possible hashes and a range of values. index[hash(input)%prime] results in a collision of <2 of all possible hashes. Fixing the divisor to the table size also ensures that the number cannot be greater than the table.

How to update a claim in ASP.NET Identity?

To remove claim details from database we can use below code. Also, we need to sign in again to update the cookie values

 // create a new identity
            var identity = new ClaimsIdentity(User.Identity);

            // Remove the existing claim value of current user from database
            if(identity.FindFirst("NameOfUser")!=null)
                await UserManager.RemoveClaimAsync(applicationUser.Id, identity.FindFirst("NameOfUser"));

            // Update customized claim
            await UserManager.AddClaimAsync(applicationUser.Id, new Claim("NameOfUser", applicationUser.Name));

            // the claim has been updates, We need to change the cookie value for getting the updated claim
            AuthenticationManager.SignOut(identity.AuthenticationType);
            await SignInManager.SignInAsync(Userprofile, isPersistent: false, rememberBrowser: false);

            return RedirectToAction("Index", "Home");

What does "Failure [INSTALL_FAILED_OLDER_SDK]" mean in Android Studio?

This error

Failure [INSTALL_FAILED_OLDER_SDK]

Means that you're trying to install an app that has a higher minSdkVersion specified in its manifest than the device's API level. Change that number to 8 and it should work. I'm not sure about the other error, but it may be related to this one.

Run java jar file on a server as background process

You can try this:

nohup java -jar /web/server.jar &

The & symbol, switches the program to run in the background.

The nohup utility makes the command passed as an argument run in the background even after you log out.

java: How can I do dynamic casting of a variable from one type to another?

So, this is an old post, however I think I can contribute something to it.

You can always do something like this:

package com.dyna.test;

import java.io.File;
import java.lang.reflect.Constructor;

public class DynamicClass{

  @SuppressWarnings("unchecked")
  public Object castDynamicClass(String className, String value){
    Class<?> dynamicClass;

    try
    {
      //We get the actual .class object associated with the specified name
      dynamicClass = Class.forName(className);

    /* We get the constructor that received only
     a String as a parameter, since the value to be used is a String, but we could
easily change this to be "dynamic" as well, getting the Constructor signature from
the same datasource we get the values from */

      Constructor<?> cons =
        (Constructor<?>) dynamicClass.getConstructor(new Class<?>[]{String.class});

      /*We generate our object, without knowing until runtime
 what type it will be, and we place it in an Object as
 any Java object extends the Object class) */
      Object object = (Object) cons.newInstance(new Object[]{value});

      return object;
    }
    catch (Exception e)
    {
      e.printStackTrace();
    }
    return null;
  }

  public static void main(String[] args)
  {
    DynamicClass dynaClass = new DynamicClass();

    /*
 We specify the type of class that should be used to represent
 the value "3.0", in this case a Double. Both these parameters
 you can get from a file, or a network stream for example. */
    System.out.println(dynaClass.castDynamicClass("java.lang.Double", "3.0"));

    /*
We specify a different value and type, and it will work as
 expected, printing 3.0 in the above case and the test path in the one below, as the Double.toString() and
 File.toString() would do. */
    System.out.println(dynaClass.castDynamicClass("java.io.File", "C:\\testpath"));
  }

Of course, this is not really dynamic casting, as in other languages (Python for example), because java is a statically typed lang. However, this can solve some fringe cases where you actually need to load some data in different ways, depending on some identifier. Also, the part where you get a constructor with a String parameter could be probably made more flexible, by having that parameter passed from the same data source. I.e. from a file, you get the constructor signature you want to use, and the list of values to be used, that way you pair up, say, the first parameter is a String, with the first object, casting it as a String, next object is an Integer, etc, but somehwere along the execution of your program, you get now a File object first, then a Double, etc.

In this way, you can account for those cases, and make a somewhat "dynamic" casting on-the-fly.

Hope this helps anyone as this keeps turning up in Google searches.

How to define two fields "unique" as couple

Django 2.2+

Using the constraints features UniqueConstraint is preferred over unique_together.

From the Django documentation for unique_together:

Use UniqueConstraint with the constraints option instead.
UniqueConstraint provides more functionality than unique_together.
unique_together may be deprecated in the future.

For example:

class Volume(models.Model):
    id = models.AutoField(primary_key=True)
    journal_id = models.ForeignKey(Journals, db_column='jid', null=True, verbose_name="Journal")
    volume_number = models.CharField('Volume Number', max_length=100)
    comments = models.TextField('Comments', max_length=4000, blank=True)

    class Meta:
        constraints = [
            models.UniqueConstraint(fields=['journal_id', 'volume_number'], name='name of constraint')
        ]

Proper MIME type for .woff2 fonts

http://dev.w3.org/webfonts/WOFF2/spec/#IMT

It seem that w3c switched it to font/woff2

I see there is some discussion about the proper mime type. In the link we read:

This document defines a top-level MIME type "font" ...

... the officially defined IANA subtypes such as "application/font-woff" ...

The members of the W3C WebFonts WG believe the use of "application" top-level type is not ideal.

and later

6.5. WOFF 2.0

    Type name:

        font
    Subtype name:

        woff2

So proposition from W3C differs from IANA.

We can see that it also differs from woff type: http://dev.w3.org/webfonts/WOFF/spec/#IMT where we read:

Type name:

    application
Subtype name:

    font-woff

which is

application/font-woff

Validating input using java.util.Scanner

what i have tried is that first i took the integer input and checked that whether its is negative or not if its negative then again take the input

Scanner s=new Scanner(System.in);

    int a=s.nextInt();
    while(a<0)
    {
    System.out.println("please provide non negative integer input ");
    a=s.nextInt();
    }
    System.out.println("the non negative integer input is "+a);

Here, you need to take the character input first and check whether user gave character or not if not than again take the character input

    char ch = s.findInLine(".").charAt(0);
    while(!Charcter.isLetter(ch))
    {
    System.out.println("please provide a character input ");
    ch=s.findInLine(".").charAt(0);
    }
    System.out.println("the character  input is "+ch);

jQuery: select an element's class and id at the same time?

Just to add that the answer that Alex provided worked for me, and not the one that is highlighted as an answer.

This one didn't work for me

$('#country.save')

But this one did:

$('#country .save')

so my conclusion is to use the space. Now I don't know if it's to the new version of jQuery that I'm using (1.5.1), but anyway hope this helps to anyone with similar problem that I've had.

edit: Full credit for explanation (in the comment to Alex's answer) goes to Felix Kling who says:

The space is the descendant selector, i.e. A B means "Match all elements that match B which are a descendant of elements matching A". AB means "select all element that match A and B". So it really depends on what you want to achieve. #country.save and #country .save are not equivalent.

Flutter: Setting the height of the AppBar

The easiest way is to use toolbarHeight property in your AppBar

Example :

AppBar(
   title: Text('Flutter is great'),
   toolbarHeight: 100,
  ),

You can add flexibleSpace property in your appBar for more flexibility

Output:

enter image description here

For more controls , Use the PreferedSize widget to create your own appBar

Example :

appBar: PreferredSize(
     preferredSize: Size(100, 80), //width and height
          // The size the AppBar would prefer if there were no other constraints.
     child: SafeArea(
       child: Container(
         height: 100,
         color: Colors.red,
         child: Center(child: Text('Fluter is great')),
       ),
     ),
),

Don't forget to use a SafeArea widget if you don't have a safeArea

Output :

How to check if one of the following items is in a list?

>>> L1 = [2,3,4]
>>> L2 = [1,2]
>>> [i for i in L1 if i in L2]
[2]

>>> S1 = set(L1)

>>> S1.intersection(S2)
set([2])

Both empty lists and empty sets are False, so you can use the value directly as a truth value.

MSBuild doesn't copy references (DLL files) if using project dependencies in solution

I just deal with it like this. Go to the properties of your reference and do this:

Set "Copy local = false"
Save
Set "Copy local = true"
Save

and that's it.

Visual Studio 2010 doesn't initially put: <private>True</private> in the reference tag and setting "copy local" to false causes it to create the tag. Afterwards it will set it to true and false accordingly.

javascript close current window

To close your current window using JS, do this. First open the current window to trick your current tab into thinking it has been opened by a script. Then close it using window.close(). The below script should go into the parent window, not the child window. You could run this after running the script to open the child.

<script type="text/javascript">

    Playing, // playback active (media player ready!). (but the media player

                // stay in this state
                // so that we know we have to resume playback once we get
                // focus back)

case Preparing:
case Playing:

How I can print to stderr in C?

The syntax is almost the same as printf. With printf you give the string format and its contents ie:

printf("my %s has %d chars\n", "string format", 30);

With fprintf it is the same, except now you are also specifying the place to print to:

File *myFile;
...
fprintf( myFile, "my %s has %d chars\n", "string format", 30);

Or in your case:

fprintf( stderr, "my %s has %d chars\n", "string format", 30);

Ways to save enums in database

We never store enumerations as numerical ordinal values anymore; it makes debugging and support way too difficult. We store the actual enumeration value converted to string:

public enum Suit { Spade, Heart, Diamond, Club }

Suit theSuit = Suit.Heart;

szQuery = "INSERT INTO Customers (Name, Suit) " +
          "VALUES ('Ian Boyd', %s)".format(theSuit.name());

and then read back with:

Suit theSuit = Suit.valueOf(reader["Suit"]);

The problem was in the past staring at Enterprise Manager and trying to decipher:

Name                Suit
==================  ==========
Shelby Jackson      2
Ian Boyd            1

verses

Name                Suit
==================  ==========
Shelby Jackson      Diamond
Ian Boyd            Heart

the latter is much easier. The former required getting at the source code and finding the numerical values that were assigned to the enumeration members.

Yes it takes more space, but the enumeration member names are short, and hard drives are cheap, and it is much more worth it to help when you're having a problem.

Additionally, if you use numerical values, you are tied to them. You cannot nicely insert or rearrange the members without having to force the old numerical values. For example, changing the Suit enumeration to:

public enum Suit { Unknown, Heart, Club, Diamond, Spade }

would have to become :

public enum Suit {
      Unknown = 4,
      Heart = 1,
      Club = 3,
      Diamond = 2,
      Spade = 0 }

in order to maintain the legacy numerical values stored in the database.

How to sort them in the database

The question comes up: lets say i wanted to order the values. Some people may want to sort them by the enum's ordinal value. Of course, ordering the cards by the numerical value of the enumeration is meaningless:

SELECT Suit FROM Cards
ORDER BY SuitID; --where SuitID is integer value(4,1,3,2,0)

Suit
------
Spade
Heart
Diamond
Club
Unknown

That's not the order we want - we want them in enumeration order:

SELECT Suit FROM Cards
ORDER BY CASE SuitID OF
    WHEN 4 THEN 0 --Unknown first
    WHEN 1 THEN 1 --Heart
    WHEN 3 THEN 2 --Club
    WHEN 2 THEN 3 --Diamond
    WHEN 0 THEN 4 --Spade
    ELSE 999 END

The same work that is required if you save integer values is required if you save strings:

SELECT Suit FROM Cards
ORDER BY Suit; --where Suit is an enum name

Suit
-------
Club
Diamond
Heart
Spade
Unknown

But that's not the order we want - we want them in enumeration order:

SELECT Suit FROM Cards
ORDER BY CASE Suit OF
    WHEN 'Unknown' THEN 0
    WHEN 'Heart'   THEN 1
    WHEN 'Club'    THEN 2
    WHEN 'Diamond' THEN 3
    WHEN 'Space'   THEN 4
    ELSE 999 END

My opinion is that this kind of ranking belongs in the user interface. If you are sorting items based on their enumeration value: you're doing something wrong.

But if you wanted to really do that, i would create a Suits dimension table:

| Suit       | SuitID       | Rank          | Color  |
|------------|--------------|---------------|--------|
| Unknown    | 4            | 0             | NULL   |
| Heart      | 1            | 1             | Red    |
| Club       | 3            | 2             | Black  |
| Diamond    | 2            | 3             | Red    |
| Spade      | 0            | 4             | Black  |

This way, when you want to change your cards to use Kissing Kings New Deck Order you can change it for display purposes without throwing away all your data:

| Suit       | SuitID       | Rank          | Color  | CardOrder |
|------------|--------------|---------------|--------|-----------|
| Unknown    | 4            | 0             | NULL   | NULL      |
| Spade      | 0            | 1             | Black  | 1         |
| Diamond    | 2            | 2             | Red    | 1         |
| Club       | 3            | 3             | Black  | -1        |
| Heart      | 1            | 4             | Red    | -1        |

Now we are separating an internal programming detail (enumeration name, enumeration value) with a display setting meant for users:

SELECT Cards.Suit
FROM Cards
   INNER JOIN Suits ON Cards.Suit = Suits.Suit
ORDER BY Suits.Rank,
   Card.Rank*Suits.CardOrder

Delete rows with foreign key in PostgreSQL

One should not recommend this as a general solution, but for one-off deletion of rows in a database that is not in production or in active use, you may be able to temporarily disable triggers on the tables in question.

In my case, I'm in development mode and have a couple of tables that reference one another via foreign keys. Thus, deleting their contents isn't quite as simple as removing all of the rows from one table before the other. So, for me, it worked fine to delete their contents as follows:

ALTER TABLE table1 DISABLE TRIGGER ALL;
ALTER TABLE table2 DISABLE TRIGGER ALL;
DELETE FROM table1;
DELETE FROM table2;
ALTER TABLE table1 ENABLE TRIGGER ALL;
ALTER TABLE table2 ENABLE TRIGGER ALL;

You should be able to add WHERE clauses as desired, of course with care to avoid undermining the integrity of the database.

There's some good, related discussion at http://www.openscope.net/2012/08/23/subverting-foreign-key-constraints-in-postgres-or-mysql/

$rootScope.$broadcast vs. $scope.$emit

@Eddie has given a perfect answer of the question asked. But I would like to draw attention to using an more efficient approach of Pub/Sub.

As this answer suggests,

The $broadcast/$on approach is not terribly efficient as it broadcasts to all the scopes(Either in one direction or both direction of Scope hierarchy). While the Pub/Sub approach is much more direct. Only subscribers get the events, so it isn't going to every scope in the system to make it work.

you can use angular-PubSub angular module. once you add PubSub module to your app dependency, you can use PubSub service to subscribe and unsubscribe events/topics.

Easy to subscribe:

// Subscribe to event
var sub = PubSub.subscribe('event-name', function(topic, data){

});

Easy to publish

PubSub.publish('event-name', {
    prop1: value1,
    prop2: value2
});

To unsubscribe, use PubSub.unsubscribe(sub); OR PubSub.unsubscribe('event-name');.

NOTE Don't forget to unsubscribe to avoid memory leaks.

event.returnValue is deprecated. Please use the standard event.preventDefault() instead

What are libtool's .la file for?

I found very good explanation about .la files here http://openbooks.sourceforge.net/books/wga/dealing-with-libraries.html

Summary (The way I understood): Because libtool deals with static and dynamic libraries internally (through --diable-shared or --disable-static) it creates a wrapper on the library files it builds. They are treated as binary library files with in libtool supported environment.

Format number as percent in MS SQL Server

In SQL Server 2012 and later, there is the FORMAT() function. You can pass it a 'P' parameter for percentage. For example:

SELECT FORMAT((37.0/38.0),'P') as [Percentage] -- 97.37 %

To support percentage decimal precision, you can use P0 for no decimals (whole-numbers) or P3 for 3 decimals (97.368%).

SELECT FORMAT((37.0/38.0),'P0') as [WholeNumberPercentage] -- 97 %
SELECT FORMAT((37.0/38.0),'P3') as [ThreeDecimalsPercentage] -- 97.368 %

Django - after login, redirect user to his custom page --> mysite.com/username

Got into django recently and been looking into a solution to that and found a method that might be useful.

So for example, if using allouth the default redirect is accounts/profile. Make a view that solely redirects to a location of choice using the username field like so:

def profile(request):
    name=request.user.username
    return redirect('-----choose where-----' + name + '/')

Then create a view that captures it in one of your apps, for example:

def profile(request, name):
    user = get_object_or_404(User, username=name)
    return render(request, 'myproject/user.html', {'profile': user})

Where the urlpatterns capture would look like this:

url(r'^(?P<name>.+)/$', views.profile, name='user')

Works well for me.

Difference between OpenJDK and Adoptium/AdoptOpenJDK

In short:

  • OpenJDK has multiple meanings and can refer to:
    • free and open source implementation of the Java Platform, Standard Edition (Java SE)
    • open source repository — the Java source code aka OpenJDK project
    • prebuilt OpenJDK binaries maintained by Oracle
    • prebuilt OpenJDK binaries maintained by the OpenJDK community
  • AdoptOpenJDK — prebuilt OpenJDK binaries maintained by community (open source licensed)

Explanation:

Prebuilt OpenJDK (or distribution) — binaries, built from http://hg.openjdk.java.net/, provided as an archive or installer, offered for various platforms, with a possible support contract.

OpenJDK, the source repository (also called OpenJDK project) - is a Mercurial-based open source repository, hosted at http://hg.openjdk.java.net. The Java source code. The vast majority of Java features (from the VM and the core libraries to the compiler) are based solely on this source repository. Oracle have an alternate fork of this.

OpenJDK, the distribution (see the list of providers below) - is free as in beer and kind of free as in speech, but, you do not get to call Oracle if you have problems with it. There is no support contract. Furthermore, Oracle will only release updates to any OpenJDK (the distribution) version if that release is the most recent Java release, including LTS (long-term support) releases. The day Oracle releases OpenJDK (the distribution) version 12.0, even if there's a security issue with OpenJDK (the distribution) version 11.0, Oracle will not release an update for 11.0. Maintained solely by Oracle.

Some OpenJDK projects - such as OpenJDK 8 and OpenJDK 11 - are maintained by the OpenJDK community and provide releases for some OpenJDK versions for some platforms. The community members have taken responsibility for releasing fixes for security vulnerabilities in these OpenJDK versions.

AdoptOpenJDK, the distribution is very similar to Oracle's OpenJDK distribution (in that it is free, and it is a build produced by compiling the sources from the OpenJDK source repository). AdoptOpenJDK as an entity will not be backporting patches, i.e. there won't be an AdoptOpenJDK 'fork/version' that is materially different from upstream (except for some build script patches for things like Win32 support). Meaning, if members of the community (Oracle or others, but not AdoptOpenJDK as an entity) backport security fixes to updates of OpenJDK LTS versions, then AdoptOpenJDK will provide builds for those. Maintained by OpenJDK community.

OracleJDK - is yet another distribution. Starting with JDK12 there will be no free version of OracleJDK. Oracle's JDK distribution offering is intended for commercial support. You pay for this, but then you get to rely on Oracle for support. Unlike Oracle's OpenJDK offering, OracleJDK comes with longer support for LTS versions. As a developer you can get a free license for personal/development use only of this particular JDK, but that's mostly a red herring, as 'just the binary' is basically the same as the OpenJDK binary. I guess it means you can download security-patched versions of LTS JDKs from Oracle's websites as long as you promise not to use them commercially.

Note. It may be best to call the OpenJDK builds by Oracle the "Oracle OpenJDK builds".

Donald Smith, Java product manager at Oracle writes:

Ideally, we would simply refer to all Oracle JDK builds as the "Oracle JDK", either under the GPL or the commercial license, depending on your situation. However, for historical reasons, while the small remaining differences exist, we will refer to them separately as Oracle’s OpenJDK builds and the Oracle JDK.

Free Builds from Source - the distribution source code is publicly available and one can assemble its own build

Free Binary Distributions - the distribution binaries are publicly available for download and usage

Extended Updates - aka LTS (long-term support) - Public Updates beyond the 6-month release lifecycle

Commercial Support - some providers offer extended updates and customer support to paying customers, e.g. Oracle JDK (support details)

Permissive License - the distribution license is non-protective, e.g. Apache 2.0

Which Java Distribution Should I Use?

In the Sun/Oracle days, it was usually Sun/Oracle producing the proprietary downstream JDK distributions based on OpenJDK sources. Recently, Oracle had decided to do their own proprietary builds only with the commercial support attached. They graciously publish the OpenJDK builds as well on their https://jdk.java.net/ site.

What is happening starting JDK 11 is the shift from single-vendor (Oracle) mindset to the mindset where you select a provider that gives you a distribution for the product, under the conditions you like: platforms they build for, frequency and promptness of releases, how support is structured, etc. If you don't trust any of existing vendors, you can even build OpenJDK yourself.

Each build of OpenJDK is usually made from the same original upstream source repository (OpenJDK “the project”). However each build is quite unique - $free or commercial, branded or unbranded, pure or bundled (e.g., BellSoft Liberica JDK offers bundled JavaFX, which was removed from Oracle builds starting JDK 11).

If no environment (e.g., Linux) and/or license requirement defines specific distribution and if you want the most standard JDK build, then probably the best option is to use OpenJDK by Oracle or AdoptOpenJDK.

What is the difference between int, Int16, Int32 and Int64?

The only real difference here is the size. All of the int types here are signed integer values which have varying sizes

  • Int16: 2 bytes
  • Int32 and int: 4 bytes
  • Int64 : 8 bytes

There is one small difference between Int64 and the rest. On a 32 bit platform assignments to an Int64 storage location are not guaranteed to be atomic. It is guaranteed for all of the other types.

With JBoss 7.2(Undertow) and PrimeFaces 6.0 org.primefaces.webapp.filter.FileUploadFilter should be removed from web.xml and context param file uploader should be set to native:

<context-param>
    <param-name>primefaces.UPLOADER</param-name>
    <param-value>native</param-value>
</context-param>

How to always show the vertical scrollbar in a browser?

Just a note: In OS X Lion, overflow set to "scroll" behaves more like auto in that scrollbars will only show when being used. They will disappear when not in use. So if any the solutions above don't appear to be working that might be why.

This is what you'll need to fix it:

::-webkit-scrollbar {
  -webkit-appearance: none;
  width: 7px;
}
::-webkit-scrollbar-thumb {
  border-radius: 4px;
  background-color: rgba(0, 0, 0, .5);
  -webkit-box-shadow: 0 0 1px rgba(255, 255, 255, .5);
}

You can style it accordingly.

Hiding the R code in Rmarkdown/knit and just showing the results

Just aggregating the answers and expanding on the basics. Here are three options:

1) Hide Code (individual chunk)

We can include echo=FALSE in the chunk header:

```{r echo=FALSE}
plot(cars)
```

2) Hide Chunks (globally).

We can change the default behaviour of knitr using the knitr::opts_chunk$set function. We call this at the start of the document and include include=FALSE in the chunk header to suppress any output:

---
output: html_document
---

```{r include = FALSE}
knitr::opts_chunk$set(echo=FALSE)
```

```{r}
plot(cars)
```

3) Collapsed Code Chunks

For HTML outputs, we can use code folding to hide the code in the output file. It will still include the code but can only be seen once a user clicks on this. You can read about this further here.

---
output:
  html_document:
    code_folding: "hide"
---

```{r}
plot(cars)
```

RVM is not a function, selecting rubies with 'rvm use ...' will not work

My env is OSX Yosemite. Had the same issue .... solved by adding the following

1) edit and add the following line to .bash_profile file.

[[ -s "$HOME/.rvm/scripts/rvm" ]] && . "$HOME/.rvm/scripts/rvm"

2) Restart terminal and try RVM command again

React img tag issue with url and class

Remember that your img is not really a DOM element but a javascript expression.

  1. This is a JSX attribute expression. Put curly braces around the src string expression and it will work. See http://facebook.github.io/react/docs/jsx-in-depth.html#attribute-expressions

  2. In javascript, the class attribute is reference using className. See the note in this section: http://facebook.github.io/react/docs/jsx-in-depth.html#react-composite-components

    /** @jsx React.DOM */

    var Hello = React.createClass({
        render: function() {
            return <div><img src={'http://placehold.it/400x20&text=slide1'} alt="boohoo" className="img-responsive"/><span>Hello {this.props.name}</span></div>;
        }
    });

    React.renderComponent(<Hello name="World" />, document.body);

Javascript array sort and unique

function sort_unique(arr) {
    return arr.sort().filter(function(el,i,a) {
        return (i==a.indexOf(el));
    });
}

PHP and MySQL Select a Single Value

  1. Don't use quotation in a field name or table name inside the query.

  2. After fetching an object you need to access object attributes/properties (in your case id) by attributes/properties name.

One note: please use mysqli_* or PDO since mysql_* deprecated. Here it is using mysqli:

session_start();
mysqli_report(MYSQLI_REPORT_ERROR | MYSQLI_REPORT_STRICT);
$link = new mysqli('localhost', 'username', 'password', 'db_name');
$link->set_charset('utf8mb4'); // always set the charset
$name = $_GET["username"];
$stmt = $link->prepare("SELECT id FROM Users WHERE username=? limit 1");
$stmt->bind_param('s', $name);
$stmt->execute();
$result = $stmt->get_result();
$value = $result->fetch_object();
$_SESSION['myid'] = $value->id;

Bonus tips: Use limit 1 for this type of scenario, it will save execution time :)

CSS text-align not working

Change the rule on your <a> element from:

.navigation ul a {
    color: #000;
    display: block;
    padding: 0 65px 0 0;
    text-decoration: none;
}?

to

.navigation ul a {
    color: #000;
    display: block;
    padding: 0 65px 0 0;
    text-decoration: none;
    width:100%;
    text-align:center;
}?

Just add two new rules (width:100%; and text-align:center;). You need to make the anchor expand to take up the full width of the list item and then text-align center it.

jsFiddle example

Set selected option of select box

This definitely should work. Here's a demo. Make sure you have placed your code into a $(document).ready:

$(function() {
    $("#gate").val('gateway_2');
});

What is difference between CrudRepository and JpaRepository interfaces in Spring Data JPA?

Below are the differences between CrudRepository and JpaRepository as:

CrudRepository

  1. CrudRepository is a base interface and extends the Repository interface.
  2. CrudRepository mainly provides CRUD (Create, Read, Update, Delete) operations.
  3. Return type of saveAll() method is Iterable.
  4. Use Case - To perform CRUD operations, define repository extending CrudRepository.

JpaRepository

  1. JpaRepository extends PagingAndSortingRepository that extends CrudRepository.
  2. JpaRepository provides CRUD and pagination operations, along with additional methods like flush(), saveAndFlush(), and deleteInBatch(), etc.
  3. Return type of saveAll() method is a List.
  4. Use Case - To perform CRUD as well as batch operations, define repository extends JpaRepository.

Add my custom http header to Spring RestTemplate request / extend RestTemplate

If the goal is to have a reusable RestTemplate which is in general useful for attaching the same header to a series of similar request a org.springframework.boot.web.client.RestTemplateCustomizer parameter can be used with a RestTemplateBuilder:

 String accessToken= "<the oauth 2 token>";
 RestTemplate restTemplate = new RestTemplateBuilder(rt-> rt.getInterceptors().add((request, body, execution) -> {
        request.getHeaders().add("Authorization", "Bearer "+accessToken);
        return execution.execute(request, body);
    })).build();

jQuery select change show/hide div event

Use following JQuery. Demo

$(function() {
    $('#row_dim').hide();
    $('#type').change(function(){
        if($('#type').val() == 'parcel') {
            $('#row_dim').show();
        } else {
            $('#row_dim').hide();
        }
    });
});

How to uninstall jupyter

If you don't want to use pip-autoremove (since it removes dependencies shared among other packages) and pip3 uninstall jupyter just removed some packages, then do the following:

Copy-Paste:

sudo may be needed as per your need.

python3 -m pip uninstall -y jupyter jupyter_core jupyter-client jupyter-console jupyterlab_pygments notebook qtconsole nbconvert nbformat

Note:

The above command will only uninstall jupyter specific packages. I have not added other packages to uninstall since they might be shared among other packages (eg: Jinja2 is used by Flask, ipython is a separate set of packages themselves, tornado again might be used by others).

In any case, all the dependencies are mentioned below(as of 21 Nov, 2020. jupyter==4.4.0 )

If you are sure you want to remove all the dependencies, then you can use Stan_MD's answer.

Using an attribute of the current class instance as a default value for method's parameter

Default value for parameters are evaluated at "compilation", once. So obviously you can't access self. The classic example is list as default parameter. If you add elements into it, the default value for the parameter changes!

The workaround is to use another default parameter, typically None, and then check and update the variable.

"id cannot be resolved or is not a field" error?

As Jake has mentioned, the problem might be because of copy/paste code. Check the main.xml under res/layout. If there is no id field in that then you have a problem. A typical example would be as below

<com.androidplot.xy.XYPlot
android:id="@+id/mySimpleXYPlot"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="fill_parent"
android:layout_marginTop="10px"
android:layout_marginLeft="20px"
android:layout_marginRight="20px"

Wait for Angular 2 to load/resolve model before rendering view/template

A nice solution that I've found is to do on UI something like:

</div

Only when: vendorServicePricing, quantityPricing and service are loaded the page is rendered.

How to disable Paste (Ctrl+V) with jQuery?

You can catch key event :

function checkEventObj ( _event_ ){
    // --- IE explorer
    if ( window.event )
        return window.event;
    // --- Netscape and other explorers
    else
        return _event_;
}

document.keydown = function(_event) {
    var e = checkEventObject(_event);

    if( e.ctrlKey && (e.keyCode == 86) )
        window.clipboardData.clearData();
}

Not tested but, could help.

REST API - Use the "Accept: application/json" HTTP Header

Here's a handy site to test out your headers. You can see your browser headers and also use cURL to reflect back whatever headers you send.

For example, you can validate the content negotiation like this.

This Accept header prefers plain text so returns in that format:-

$ curl -H "Accept: application/json;q=0.9,text/plain" http://gethttp.info/Accept
application/json;q=0.9,text/plain

Whereas this one prefers JSON and so returns in that format:-

$ curl -H "Accept: application/json,text/*;q=0.99" http://gethttp.info/Accept
{
   "Accept": "application/json,text/*;q=0.99"
}

Android: upgrading DB version and adding new table

1. About onCreate() and onUpgrade()

onCreate(..) is called whenever the app is freshly installed. onUpgrade is called whenever the app is upgraded and launched and the database version is not the same.

2. Incrementing the db version

You need a constructor like:

MyOpenHelper(Context context) {
   super(context, "dbname", null, 2); // 2 is the database version
}

IMPORTANT: Incrementing the app version alone is not enough for onUpgrade to be called!

3. Don't forget your new users!

Don't forget to add

database.execSQL(DATABASE_CREATE_color);

to your onCreate() method as well or newly installed apps will lack the table.

4. How to deal with multiple database changes over time

When you have successive app upgrades, several of which have database upgrades, you want to be sure to check oldVersion:

onUpgrade(SQLiteDatabase db, int oldVersion, int newVersion) {
   switch(oldVersion) {
   case 1:
       db.execSQL(DATABASE_CREATE_color);
       // we want both updates, so no break statement here...
   case 2:
       db.execSQL(DATABASE_CREATE_someothertable);
   }
}

This way when a user upgrades from version 1 to version 3, they get both updates. When a user upgrades from version 2 to 3, they just get the revision 3 update... After all, you can't count on 100% of your user base to upgrade each time you release an update. Sometimes they skip an update or 12 :)

5. Keeping your revision numbers under control while developing

And finally... calling

adb uninstall <yourpackagename>

totally uninstalls the app. When you install again, you are guaranteed to hit onCreate which keeps you from having to keep incrementing the database version into the stratosphere as you develop...

How to show particular image as thumbnail while implementing share on Facebook?

I was having the same problems and believe I have solved it. I used the link meta tag as mentioned here to point to the image I wanted, but the key is that if you do that FB won't pull any other images as choices. Also if your image is too big, you won't have any choices at all.

Here's how I fixed my site http://gnorml.com/blog/facebook-link-thumbnails/

ASP.Net MVC Redirect To A Different View

I am not 100% sure what the conditions are for this, but for me the above didn't work directly, thought it got close. I think it was because I needed "id" for my view by in the model it was called "ObjectID".

I had a model with a variety of pieces of information. I just needed the id.

Before the above I created a new System.Web.Routing.RouteValueDictionary object and added the needed id.

(System.Web.Routing.)RouteValueDictionary RouteInfo = new RouteValueDictionary();
RouteInfo.Add("id", ObjectID);
return RedirectToAction("details", RouteInfo);

(Note: the MVC project in question I didn't create, so I don't know where all the right "fiddly" bits are.)

Is there a Google Sheets formula to put the name of the sheet into a cell?

if you want to use build-in functions:

=REGEXEXTRACT(cell("address";'Sheet1'!A1);"^'(.*)'!\$A\$1$")

Explanation: cell("address";'Sheet1'!A1) gives you the address of the sheet, output is 'Sheet1'!$A$1. Now we need to extract the actual sheet name from this output. I'm using REGEXEXTRACT to match it by regex ^'(.*)'!\$A\$1$, but you can either use more/less specific regex or use functions like SUBSTITUTE or REPLACE

How to check if a function exists on a SQL database

This is what SSMS uses when you script using the DROP and CREATE option

IF EXISTS (SELECT *
           FROM   sys.objects
           WHERE  object_id = OBJECT_ID(N'[dbo].[foo]')
                  AND type IN ( N'FN', N'IF', N'TF', N'FS', N'FT' ))
  DROP FUNCTION [dbo].[foo]

GO

This approach to deploying changes means that you need to recreate all permissions on the object so you might consider ALTER-ing if Exists instead.

Processing $http response in service

tosh shimayama have a solution but you can simplify a lot if you use the fact that $http returns promises and that promises can return a value:

app.factory('myService', function($http, $q) {
  myService.async = function() {
    return $http.get('test.json')
    .then(function (response) {
      var data = reponse.data;
      console.log(data);
      return data;
    });
  };

  return myService;
});

app.controller('MainCtrl', function( myService,$scope) {
  $scope.asyncData = myService.async();
  $scope.$watch('asyncData', function(asyncData) {
    if(angular.isDefined(asyncData)) {
      // Do something with the returned data, angular handle promises fine, you don't have to reassign the value to the scope if you just want to use it with angular directives
    }
  });

});

Ruby: Merging variables in to a string

You can use sprintf-like formatting to inject values into the string. For that the string must include placeholders. Put your arguments into an array and use on of these ways: (For more info look at the documentation for Kernel::sprintf.)

fmt = 'The %s %s the %s'
res = fmt % [animal, action, other_animal]  # using %-operator
res = sprintf(fmt, animal, action, other_animal)  # call Kernel.sprintf

You can even explicitly specify the argument number and shuffle them around:

'The %3$s %2$s the %1$s' % ['cat', 'eats', 'mouse']

Or specify the argument using hash keys:

'The %{animal} %{action} the %{second_animal}' %
  { :animal => 'cat', :action=> 'eats', :second_animal => 'mouse'}

Note that you must provide a value for all arguments to the % operator. For instance, you cannot avoid defining animal.

How to remove old and unused Docker images

If you wish to automatically/periodically clean up exited containers and remove images and volumes that aren't in use by a running container you can download the image meltwater/docker-cleanup.

Just run:

docker run -d -v /var/run/docker.sock:/var/run/docker.sock:rw  -v /var/lib/docker:/var/lib/docker:rw --restart=unless-stopped meltwater/docker-cleanup:latest

It runs every 30 minutes by default. You can however set the delay time by using this flag in seconds (DELAY_TIME=1800 option).

How to make a list of n numbers in Python and randomly select any number?

What is the question mark for in a Typescript parameter name

The ? in the parameters is to denote an optional parameter. The Typescript compiler does not require this parameter to be filled in. See the code example below for more details:

// baz: number | undefined means: the second argument baz can be a number or undefined

// = undefined, is default parameter syntax,
// if the parameter is not filled in it will default to undefined

// Although default JS behaviour is to set every non filled in argument to undefined
// we need this default argument so that the typescript compiler
// doesn't require the second argument to be filled in
function fn1 (bar: string, baz: number | undefined = undefined) {
    // do stuff
}

// All the above code can be simplified using the ? operator after the parameter
// In other words fn1 and fn2 are equivalent in behaviour
function fn2 (bar: string, baz?: number) {
    // do stuff
}

fn2('foo', 3); // works
fn2('foo'); // works

fn2();
// Compile time error: Expected 1-2 arguments, but got 0
// An argument for 'bar' was not provided.

fn1('foo', 3); // works
fn1('foo'); // works

fn1();
// Compile time error: Expected 1-2 arguments, but got 0
// An argument for 'bar' was not provided.

Load image from url

UrlImageViewHelper will fill an ImageView with an image that is found at a URL. UrlImageViewHelper will automatically download, save, and cache all the image urls the BitmapDrawables. Duplicate urls will not be loaded into memory twice. Bitmap memory is managed by using a weak reference hash table, so as soon as the image is no longer used by you, it will be garbage collected automatically.

UrlImageViewHelper.setUrlDrawable(imageView, "http://example.com/image.png");

"unrecognized import path" with go get

I encountered this issue when installing a different package, and it could be caused by the GOROOT and GOPATH configuration on your PATH. I tend not to set GOROOT because my OS X installation handled it (I believe) for me.

  1. Ensure the following in your .profile (or wherever you store profile configuration: .bash_profile, .zshrc, .bashrc, etc):

    export GOPATH=$HOME/go
    export PATH=$PATH:$GOROOT/bin

  2. Also, you likely want to unset GOROOT, as well, in case that path is also incorrect.

  3. Furthermore, be sure to clean your PATH, similarly to what I've done below, just before the GOPATH assignment, i.e.:

    export PATH=$HOME/bin:/usr/local/bin:$PATH
    export GOPATH=$HOME/go
    export PATH=$PATH:$GOROOT/bin

  4. Then, source <.profile> to activate

  5. retry go get

How to send a Post body in the HttpClient request in Windows Phone 8?

This depends on what content do you have. You need to initialize your requestMessage.Content property with new HttpContent. For example:

...
// Add request body
if (isPostRequest)
{
    requestMessage.Content = new ByteArrayContent(content);
}
...

where content is your encoded content. You also should include correct Content-type header.

UPDATE:

Oh, it can be even nicer (from this answer):

requestMessage.Content = new StringContent("{\"name\":\"John Doe\",\"age\":33}", Encoding.UTF8, "application/json");

Dynamically updating plot in matplotlib

I know I'm late to answer this question, but for your issue you could look into the "joystick" package. I designed it for plotting a stream of data from the serial port, but it works for any stream. It also allows for interactive text logging or image plotting (in addition to graph plotting). No need to do your own loops in a separate thread, the package takes care of it, just give the update frequency you wish. Plus the terminal remains available for monitoring commands while plotting. See http://www.github.com/ceyzeriat/joystick/ or https://pypi.python.org/pypi/joystick (use pip install joystick to install)

Just replace np.random.random() by your real data point read from the serial port in the code below:

import joystick as jk
import numpy as np
import time

class test(jk.Joystick):
    # initialize the infinite loop decorator
    _infinite_loop = jk.deco_infinite_loop()

    def _init(self, *args, **kwargs):
        """
        Function called at initialization, see the doc
        """
        self._t0 = time.time()  # initialize time
        self.xdata = np.array([self._t0])  # time x-axis
        self.ydata = np.array([0.0])  # fake data y-axis
        # create a graph frame
        self.mygraph = self.add_frame(jk.Graph(name="test", size=(500, 500), pos=(50, 50), fmt="go-", xnpts=10000, xnptsmax=10000, xylim=(None, None, 0, 1)))

    @_infinite_loop(wait_time=0.2)
    def _generate_data(self): # function looped every 0.2 second to read or produce data
        """
        Loop starting with the simulation start, getting data and
    pushing it to the graph every 0.2 seconds
        """
        # concatenate data on the time x-axis
        self.xdata = jk.core.add_datapoint(self.xdata, time.time(), xnptsmax=self.mygraph.xnptsmax)
        # concatenate data on the fake data y-axis
        self.ydata = jk.core.add_datapoint(self.ydata, np.random.random(), xnptsmax=self.mygraph.xnptsmax)
        self.mygraph.set_xydata(t, self.ydata)

If RR = B7, the decimal for B is 11, so value is 11*16 + 7 = 183

public int[] getRGB(String rgb){

    }
    return ret;
}

public int hexToInt(char a, char b){
    int x = a < 65 ? a-48 : a-55;
    int y = b < 65 ? b-48 : b-55;
    return x*16+y;
}

Disable HttpClient logging

The best solution I found was to use the maven enforcer plugin in order to prevent commons-logging from being used altogether. Then I added the slf4j dependency for logging instead. So add the following to your pom.xml

<dependency>
        <groupId>org.slf4j</groupId>
        <artifactId>slf4j-api</artifactId>
        <version>[your version here]</version>
    </dependency>

and also add the maven-enforcer plugin

<plugin>
           <groupId>org.apache.maven.plugins</groupId>
           <artifactId>maven-enforcer-plugin</artifactId>
           <version>[your version here]</version>
           <executions>
               <execution>
                   <id>enforce</id>
                   <configuration>
                       <rules>
                           <DependencyConvergence />
                           <bannedDependencies>
                               <excludes>
                                   <exclude>commons-logging:commons-logging</exclude>
                               </excludes>
                           </bannedDependencies>
                       </rules>
                   </configuration>
                   <goals>
                       <goal>enforce</goal>
                   </goals>
               </execution>

Difference between signature versions - V1 (Jar Signature) and V2 (Full APK Signature) while generating a signed APK in Android Studio?

It is a new signing mechanism introduced in Android 7.0, with additional features designed to make the APK signature more secure.

It is not mandatory. You should check BOTH of those checkboxes if possible, but if the new V2 signing mechanism gives you problems, you can omit it.

So you can just leave V2 unchecked if you encounter problems, but should have it checked if possible.

UPDATED: This is now mandatory when targeting Android 11.

SVN Repository Search

If you're searching only for the filename, use:

svn list -R file:///subversion/repository | grep filename

Windows:

svn list -R file:///subversion/repository | findstr filename

Otherwise checkout and do filesystem search:

egrep -r _code_ .

How to force reloading php.ini file?

You also can use graceful restart the apache server with service apache2 reload or apachectl -k graceful. As the apache doc says:

The USR1 or graceful signal causes the parent process to advise the children to exit after their current request (or to exit immediately if they're not serving anything). The parent re-reads its configuration files and re-opens its log files. As each child dies off the parent replaces it with a child from the new generation of the configuration, which begins serving new requests immediately.

Purpose of __repr__ method?

__repr__ is used by the standalone Python interpreter to display a class in printable format. Example:

~> python3.5
Python 3.5.1 (v3.5.1:37a07cee5969, Dec  5 2015, 21:12:44)
[GCC 4.2.1 (Apple Inc. build 5666) (dot 3)] on darwin
Type "help", "copyright", "credits" or "license" for more information.
>>> class StackOverflowDemo:
...     def __init__(self):
...         pass
...     def __repr__(self):
...         return '<StackOverflow demo object __repr__>'
...
>>> demo = StackOverflowDemo()
>>> demo
<StackOverflow demo object __repr__>

In cases where a __str__ method is not defined in the class, it will call the __repr__ function in an attempt to create a printable representation.

>>> str(demo)
'<StackOverflow demo object __repr__>'

Additionally, print()ing the class will call __str__ by default.

Documentation, if you please

regex match any whitespace

The reason I used a + instead of a '*' is because a plus is defined as one or more of the preceding element, where an asterisk is zero or more. In this case we want a delimiter that's a little more concrete, so "one or more" spaces.

word[Aa]\s+word[Bb]\s+word[Cc]

will match:

wordA wordB     wordC
worda wordb wordc
wordA   wordb   wordC

The words, in this expression, will have to be specific, and also in order (a, b, then c)

How to enable C++17 compiling in Visual Studio?

If bringing existing Visual Studio 2015 solution into Visual Studio 2017 and you want to build it with c++17 native compiler, you should first Retarget the solution/projects to v141 , THEN the dropdown will appear as described above ( Configuration Properties -> C/C++ -> Language -> Language Standard)

How do I check if a string contains another string in Swift?

Another one. Supports case and diacritic options.

Swift 3.0

struct MyString {
  static func contains(_ text: String, substring: String,
                       ignoreCase: Bool = true,
                       ignoreDiacritic: Bool = true) -> Bool {

    var options = NSString.CompareOptions()

    if ignoreCase { _ = options.insert(NSString.CompareOptions.caseInsensitive) }
    if ignoreDiacritic { _ = options.insert(NSString.CompareOptions.diacriticInsensitive) }

    return text.range(of: substring, options: options) != nil
  }
}

Usage

MyString.contains("Niels Bohr", substring: "Bohr") // true

iOS 9+

Case and diacritic insensitive function available since iOS 9.

if #available(iOS 9.0, *) {
  "Für Elise".localizedStandardContains("fur") // true
}

Remove trailing zeros

In case you want to keep decimal number, try following example:

number = Math.Floor(number * 100000000) / 100000000;

Comparing two vectors in an if statement

I'd probably use all.equal and which to get the information you want. It's not recommended to use all.equal in an if...else block for some reason, so we wrap it in isTRUE(). See ?all.equal for more:

foo <- function(A,B){
  if (!isTRUE(all.equal(A,B))){
    mismatches <- paste(which(A != B), collapse = ",")
    stop("error the A and B does not match at the following columns: ", mismatches )
  } else {
    message("Yahtzee!")
  }
}

And in use:

> foo(A,A)
Yahtzee!
> foo(A,B)
Yahtzee!
> foo(A,C)
Error in foo(A, C) :
  error the A and B does not match at the following columns: 2,4

Decoding a Base64 string in Java

If you don't want to use apache, you can use Java8:

byte[] decodedBytes = Base64.getDecoder().decode("YWJjZGVmZw==");
System.out.println(new String(decodedBytes) + "\n");

Pass an array of integers to ASP.NET Web API?

In case someone would need - to achieve same or similar thing(like delete) via POST instead of FromUri, use FromBody and on client side(JS/jQuery) format param as $.param({ '': categoryids }, true)

c#:

public IHttpActionResult Remove([FromBody] int[] categoryIds)

jQuery:

$.ajax({
        type: 'POST',
        data: $.param({ '': categoryids }, true),
        url: url,
//...
});

The thing with $.param({ '': categoryids }, true) is that it .net will expect post body to contain urlencoded value like =1&=2&=3 without parameter name, and without brackets.

Good MapReduce examples

Map reduce is a framework that was developed to process massive amounts of data efficiently. For example, if we have 1 million records in a dataset, and it is stored in a relational representation - it is very expensive to derive values and perform any sort of transformations on these.

For Example In SQL, Given the Date of Birth, to find out How many people are of age > 30 for a million records would take a while, and this would only increase in order of magnitute when the complexity of the query increases. Map Reduce provides a cluster based implementation where data is processed in a distributed manner

Here is a wikipedia article explaining what map-reduce is all about

Another good example is Finding Friends via map reduce can be a powerful example to understand the concept, and a well used use-case.

Personally, found this link quite useful to understand the concept

Copying the explanation provided in the blog (In case the link goes stale)

Finding Friends

MapReduce is a framework originally developed at Google that allows for easy large scale distributed computing across a number of domains. Apache Hadoop is an open source implementation.

I'll gloss over the details, but it comes down to defining two functions: a map function and a reduce function. The map function takes a value and outputs key:value pairs. For instance, if we define a map function that takes a string and outputs the length of the word as the key and the word itself as the value then map(steve) would return 5:steve and map(savannah) would return 8:savannah. You may have noticed that the map function is stateless and only requires the input value to compute it's output value. This allows us to run the map function against values in parallel and provides a huge advantage. Before we get to the reduce function, the mapreduce framework groups all of the values together by key, so if the map functions output the following key:value pairs:

3 : the
3 : and
3 : you
4 : then
4 : what
4 : when
5 : steve
5 : where
8 : savannah
8 : research

They get grouped as:

3 : [the, and, you]
4 : [then, what, when]
5 : [steve, where]
8 : [savannah, research]

Each of these lines would then be passed as an argument to the reduce function, which accepts a key and a list of values. In this instance, we might be trying to figure out how many words of certain lengths exist, so our reduce function will just count the number of items in the list and output the key with the size of the list, like:

3 : 3
4 : 3
5 : 2
8 : 2

The reductions can also be done in parallel, again providing a huge advantage. We can then look at these final results and see that there were only two words of length 5 in our corpus, etc...

The most common example of mapreduce is for counting the number of times words occur in a corpus. Suppose you had a copy of the internet (I've been fortunate enough to have worked in such a situation), and you wanted a list of every word on the internet as well as how many times it occurred.

The way you would approach this would be to tokenize the documents you have (break it into words), and pass each word to a mapper. The mapper would then spit the word back out along with a value of 1. The grouping phase will take all the keys (in this case words), and make a list of 1's. The reduce phase then takes a key (the word) and a list (a list of 1's for every time the key appeared on the internet), and sums the list. The reducer then outputs the word, along with it's count. When all is said and done you'll have a list of every word on the internet, along with how many times it appeared.

Easy, right? If you've ever read about mapreduce, the above scenario isn't anything new... it's the "Hello, World" of mapreduce. So here is a real world use case (Facebook may or may not actually do the following, it's just an example):

Facebook has a list of friends (note that friends are a bi-directional thing on Facebook. If I'm your friend, you're mine). They also have lots of disk space and they serve hundreds of millions of requests everyday. They've decided to pre-compute calculations when they can to reduce the processing time of requests. One common processing request is the "You and Joe have 230 friends in common" feature. When you visit someone's profile, you see a list of friends that you have in common. This list doesn't change frequently so it'd be wasteful to recalculate it every time you visited the profile (sure you could use a decent caching strategy, but then I wouldn't be able to continue writing about mapreduce for this problem). We're going to use mapreduce so that we can calculate everyone's common friends once a day and store those results. Later on it's just a quick lookup. We've got lots of disk, it's cheap.

Assume the friends are stored as Person->[List of Friends], our friends list is then:

A -> B C D
B -> A C D E
C -> A B D E
D -> A B C E
E -> B C D

Each line will be an argument to a mapper. For every friend in the list of friends, the mapper will output a key-value pair. The key will be a friend along with the person. The value will be the list of friends. The key will be sorted so that the friends are in order, causing all pairs of friends to go to the same reducer. This is hard to explain with text, so let's just do it and see if you can see the pattern. After all the mappers are done running, you'll have a list like this:

For map(A -> B C D) :

(A B) -> B C D
(A C) -> B C D
(A D) -> B C D

For map(B -> A C D E) : (Note that A comes before B in the key)

(A B) -> A C D E
(B C) -> A C D E
(B D) -> A C D E
(B E) -> A C D E
For map(C -> A B D E) :

(A C) -> A B D E
(B C) -> A B D E
(C D) -> A B D E
(C E) -> A B D E
For map(D -> A B C E) :

(A D) -> A B C E
(B D) -> A B C E
(C D) -> A B C E
(D E) -> A B C E
And finally for map(E -> B C D):

(B E) -> B C D
(C E) -> B C D
(D E) -> B C D
Before we send these key-value pairs to the reducers, we group them by their keys and get:

(A B) -> (A C D E) (B C D)
(A C) -> (A B D E) (B C D)
(A D) -> (A B C E) (B C D)
(B C) -> (A B D E) (A C D E)
(B D) -> (A B C E) (A C D E)
(B E) -> (A C D E) (B C D)
(C D) -> (A B C E) (A B D E)
(C E) -> (A B D E) (B C D)
(D E) -> (A B C E) (B C D)

Each line will be passed as an argument to a reducer. The reduce function will simply intersect the lists of values and output the same key with the result of the intersection. For example, reduce((A B) -> (A C D E) (B C D)) will output (A B) : (C D) and means that friends A and B have C and D as common friends.

The result after reduction is:

(A B) -> (C D)
(A C) -> (B D)
(A D) -> (B C)
(B C) -> (A D E)
(B D) -> (A C E)
(B E) -> (C D)
(C D) -> (A B E)
(C E) -> (B D)
(D E) -> (B C)

Now when D visits B's profile, we can quickly look up (B D) and see that they have three friends in common, (A C E).

C - reading command line parameters

Parsing command line arguments in a primitive way as explained in the above answers is reasonable as long as the number of parameters that you need to deal with is not too much.

I strongly suggest you to use an industrial strength library for handling the command line arguments.

This will make your code more professional.

Such a library for C++ is available in the following website. I have used this library in many of my projects, hence I can confidently say that this one of the easiest yet useful library for command line argument parsing. Besides, since it is just a template library, it is easier to import into your project. http://tclap.sourceforge.net/

A similar library is available for C as well. http://argtable.sourceforge.net/

What is VanillaJS?

"Vanilla JS” is an expression that got popular after the publishing of a satire website in 2012 (http://vanilla-js.com/). There’s a section covering its story/meaning in this post.

So why the joke? It kind of came as a modern response to the old school knee-jerk reflex of relying on jQuery and additional JS libraries. With the ECMAScript spec and modern browsers capabilities, the need to bypass plain JS with external libraries to maintain consistency across browsers just isn’t there anymore. Here’s a site that shows you how true this is with concrete examples: http://youmightnotneedjquery.com/

How to parse data in JSON format?

Very simple:

import json
data = json.loads('{"one" : "1", "two" : "2", "three" : "3"}')
print data['two']

Printing 2D array in matrix format

I wrote extension method

public static string ToMatrixString<T>(this T[,] matrix, string delimiter = "\t")
{
    var s = new StringBuilder();

    for (var i = 0; i < matrix.GetLength(0); i++)
    {
        for (var j = 0; j < matrix.GetLength(1); j++)
        {
            s.Append(matrix[i, j]).Append(delimiter);
        }

        s.AppendLine();
    }

    return s.ToString();
}

To use just call the method

results.ToMatrixString();

How do I create a WPF Rounded Corner container?

I know that this isn't an answer to the initial question ... but you often want to clip the inner content of that rounded corner border you just created.

Chris Cavanagh has come up with an excellent way to do just this.

I have tried a couple different approaches to this ... and I think this one rocks.

Here is the xaml below:

<Page
    xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation"
    xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml"
    Background="Black"
>
    <!-- Rounded yellow border -->
    <Border
        HorizontalAlignment="Center"
        VerticalAlignment="Center"
        BorderBrush="Yellow"
        BorderThickness="3"
        CornerRadius="10"
        Padding="2"
    >
        <Grid>
            <!-- Rounded mask (stretches to fill Grid) -->
            <Border
                Name="mask"
                Background="White"
                CornerRadius="7"
            />

            <!-- Main content container -->
            <StackPanel>
                <!-- Use a VisualBrush of 'mask' as the opacity mask -->
                <StackPanel.OpacityMask>
                    <VisualBrush Visual="{Binding ElementName=mask}"/>
                </StackPanel.OpacityMask>

                <!-- Any content -->
                <Image Source="http://chriscavanagh.files.wordpress.com/2006/12/chriss-blog-banner.jpg"/>

                <Rectangle

                    Fill="Blue"/>

Simple way to convert datarow array to datatable

DataTable dt = new DataTable();

DataRow[] dr = (DataTable)dsData.Tables[0].Select("Some Criteria");

dt.Rows.Add(dr);

View's SELECT contains a subquery in the FROM clause

As the more recent MySQL documentation on view restrictions says:

Before MySQL 5.7.7, subqueries cannot be used in the FROM clause of a view.

This means, that choosing a MySQL v5.7.7 or newer or upgrading the existing MySQL instance to such a version, would remove this restriction on views completely.

However, if you have a current production MySQL version that is earlier than v5.7.7, then the removal of this restriction on views should only be one of the criteria being assessed while making a decision as to upgrade or not. Using the workaround techniques described in the other answers may be a more viable solution - at least on the shorter run.

DataAnnotations validation (Regular Expression) in asp.net mvc 4 - razor view

Try @ sign at start of expression. So you wont need to type escape characters just copy paste the regular expression in "" and put @ sign. Like so:

[RegularExpression(@"([a-zA-Z\d]+[\w\d]*|)[a-zA-Z]+[\w\d.]*", ErrorMessage = "Invalid username")]
public string Username { get; set; }

How to get html table td cell value by JavaScript?

This is my solution

}

How to get element by classname or id

If you want to find the button only by its class name and using jQLite only, you can do like below:

var myListButton = $document.find('button').filter(function() {
    return angular.element(this).hasClass('multi-files');
});

Hope this helps. :)

How to make an HTTP get request with parameters

The WebRequest object seems like too much work for me. I prefer to use the WebClient control.

To use this function you just need to create two NameValueCollections holding your parameters and request headers.

Consider the following function:

    private static string DoGET(string URL,NameValueCollection QueryStringParameters = null, NameValueCollection RequestHeaders = null)
    {
        string ResponseText = null;
        using (WebClient client = new WebClient())
        {
            try
            {
                if (RequestHeaders != null)
                {
                    if (RequestHeaders.Count > 0)
                    {
                        foreach (string header in RequestHeaders.AllKeys)
                            client.Headers.Add(header, RequestHeaders[header]);
                    }
                }
                if (QueryStringParameters != null)
                {
                    if (QueryStringParameters.Count > 0)
                    {
                        foreach (string parm in QueryStringParameters.AllKeys)
                            client.QueryString.Add(parm, QueryStringParameters[parm]);
                    }
                }
                byte[] ResponseBytes = client.DownloadData(URL);
                ResponseText = Encoding.UTF8.GetString(ResponseBytes);
            }
            catch (WebException exception)
            {
                if (exception.Response != null)
                {
                    var responseStream = exception.Response.GetResponseStream();

                    if (responseStream != null)
                    {
                        using (var reader = new StreamReader(responseStream))
                        {
                            Response.Write(reader.ReadToEnd());
                        }
                    }
                }
            }
        }
        return ResponseText;
    }

Add your querystring parameters (if required) as a NameValueCollection like so.

        NameValueCollection QueryStringParameters = new NameValueCollection();
        QueryStringParameters.Add("id", "123");
        QueryStringParameters.Add("category", "A");

Add your http headers (if required) as a NameValueCollection like so.

        NameValueCollection RequestHttpHeaders = new NameValueCollection();
        RequestHttpHeaders.Add("Authorization", "Basic bGF3c2912XBANzg5ITppc2ltCzEF");

Detecting when user scrolls to bottom of div with jQuery

I have crafted this piece of code that worked for me to detect when I scroll to the end of an element!

let element = $('.element');

if ($(document).scrollTop() > element.offset().top + element.height()) {

     /// do something ///
}

Git: How to remove remote origin from Git repo

Is there a pure CSS way to make an input transparent?

The two methods previously described are not enough today. I personnally use :

input[type="text"]{
    background-color: transparent;
    border: 0px;
    outline: none;
    -webkit-box-shadow: none;
    -moz-box-shadow: none;
    box-shadow: none;
    width:5px;
    color:transparent;
    cursor:default;
}

It also removes the shadow set on some browsers, hide the text that could be input and make the cursor behave as if the input was not there.

You may want to set width to 0px also.

How to simplify a null-safe compareTo() implementation?

import java.util.ArrayList;

        Student s3 = new Student("1",null);
        Student s11 = new Student("2","Nikhil");
        Student s12 = new Student("2","*");
        Student s13 = new Student("2",null);
        List<Student> list = new ArrayList<Student>();
        list.add(s1);
        list.add(s2);

        list.sort(Comparator.comparing(Student::getName,Comparator.nullsLast(Comparator.naturalOrder())));

        for (Iterator iterator = list.iterator(); iterator.hasNext();) {
            Student student = (Student) iterator.next();
            System.out.println(student);
        }

    }

Student [name=Nikhil, id=2]
Student [name=null, id=1]
Student [name=null, id=2]

Changing cell color using apache poi

To create your cell styles see: http://poi.apache.org/spreadsheet/quick-guide.html#CustomColors.

Custom colors

HSSF:

HSSFWorkbook wb = new HSSFWorkbook();
HSSFSheet sheet = wb.createSheet();
HSSFRow row = sheet.createRow((short) 0);
HSSFCell cell = row.createCell((short) 0);
cell.setCellValue("Default Palette");

//apply some colors from the standard palette,
// as in the previous examples.
//we'll use red text on a lime background

HSSFCellStyle style = wb.createCellStyle();
style.setFillForegroundColor(HSSFColor.LIME.index);
style.setFillPattern(HSSFCellStyle.SOLID_FOREGROUND);

HSSFFont font = wb.createFont();
font.setColor(HSSFColor.RED.index);
style.setFont(font);

cell.setCellStyle(style);

//save with the default palette
FileOutputStream out = new FileOutputStream("default_palette.xls");
wb.write(out);
out.close();

//now, let's replace RED and LIME in the palette
// with a more attractive combination
// (lovingly borrowed from freebsd.org)

cell.setCellValue("Modified Palette");

//creating a custom palette for the workbook
HSSFPalette palette = wb.getCustomPalette();

//replacing the standard red with freebsd.org red
palette.setColorAtIndex(HSSFColor.RED.index,
        (byte) 153,  //RGB red (0-255)
        (byte) 0,    //RGB green
        (byte) 0     //RGB blue
);
//replacing lime with freebsd.org gold
palette.setColorAtIndex(HSSFColor.LIME.index, (byte) 255, (byte) 204, (byte) 102);

//save with the modified palette
// note that wherever we have previously used RED or LIME, the
// new colors magically appear
out = new FileOutputStream("modified_palette.xls");
wb.write(out);
out.close();

XSSF:

 XSSFWorkbook wb = new XSSFWorkbook();
    XSSFSheet sheet = wb.createSheet();
    XSSFRow row = sheet.createRow(0);
    XSSFCell cell = row.createCell( 0);
    cell.setCellValue("custom XSSF colors");

    XSSFCellStyle style1 = wb.createCellStyle();
    style1.setFillForegroundColor(new XSSFColor(new java.awt.Color(128, 0, 128)));
    style1.setFillPattern(CellStyle.SOLID_FOREGROUND);

How to send an HTTPS GET Request in C#

Add ?var1=data1&var2=data2 to the end of url to submit values to the page via GET:

using System.Net;
using System.IO;

string url = "https://www.example.com/scriptname.php?var1=hello";

HttpWebRequest request = (HttpWebRequest)WebRequest.Create(url);
HttpWebResponse response = (HttpWebResponse)request.GetResponse();
Stream resStream = response.GetResponseStream();

Bash command line and input limit

There is a buffer limit of something like 1024. The read will simply hang mid paste or input. To solve this use the -e option.

http://linuxcommand.org/lc3_man_pages/readh.html

-e use Readline to obtain the line in an interactive shell

Change your read to read -e and annoying line input hang goes away.

How do I view executed queries within SQL Server Management Studio?

More clear query, targeting Studio sql queries is :

SELECT text  FROM sys.dm_exec_sessions es
  INNER JOIN sys.dm_exec_connections ec
      ON es.session_id = ec.session_id
  CROSS APPLY sys.dm_exec_sql_text(ec.most_recent_sql_handle)
  where program_name like '%Query'

Easy pretty printing of floats in python?

It's an old question but I'd add something potentially useful:

I know you wrote your example in raw Python lists, but if you decide to use numpy arrays instead (which would be perfectly legit in your example, because you seem to be dealing with arrays of numbers), there is (almost exactly) this command you said you made up:

import numpy as np
np.set_printoptions(precision=2)

Or even better in your case if you still want to see all decimals of really precise numbers, but get rid of trailing zeros for example, use the formatting string %g:

np.set_printoptions(formatter={"float_kind": lambda x: "%g" % x})

For just printing once and not changing global behavior, use np.array2string with the same arguments as above.

What is special about /dev/tty?

/dev/tty is a synonym for the controlling terminal (if any) of the current process. As jtl999 says, it's a character special file; that's what the c in the ls -l output means.

man 4 tty or man -s 4 tty should give you more information, or you can read the man page online here.

Incidentally, pwd > /dev/tty doesn't necessarily print to the shell's stdout (though it is the pwd command's standard output). If the shell's standard output has been redirected to something other than the terminal, /dev/tty still refers to the terminal.

You can also read from /dev/tty, which will normally read from the keyboard.

What is EOF in the C programming language?

Couple of typos:

while((c = getchar())!= EOF)

in place of:

while((c = getchar() != EOF))

Also getchar() treats a return key as a valid input, so you need to buffer it too.EOF is a marker to indicate end of input. Generally it is an int with all bits set.

#include <stdio.h>
int main()
{
 int c;
 while((c = getchar())!= EOF)
 {
  if( getchar() == EOF )
    break;
  printf(" %d\n", c);
 }
  printf("%d %u %x- at EOF\n", c , c, c);
}

prints:

49
50
-1 4294967295 ffffffff- at EOF

for input:

1
2
<ctrl-d>

How to remove carriage returns and new lines in Postgresql?

OP asked specifically about regexes since it would appear there's concern for a number of other characters as well as newlines, but for those just wanting strip out newlines, you don't even need to go to a regex. You can simply do:

select replace(field,E'\n','');

I think this is an SQL-standard behavior, so it should extend back to all but perhaps the very earliest versions of Postgres. The above tested fine for me in 9.4 and 9.2

How do you detect where two line segments intersect?

I think there is a much much simpler solution for this problem. I came up with another idea today and it seems to work just fine (at least in 2D for now). All you have to do, is to calculate the intersection between two lines, then check if the calculated intersection point is within the boundig boxes of both line segments. If it is, the line segments intersect. That's it.

EDIT:

This is how I calculate the intersection (I don't know anymore where I found this code snippet)

Point3D

comes from

System.Windows.Media.Media3D

public static Point3D? Intersection(Point3D start1, Point3D end1, Point3D start2, Point3D end2) {

        double a1 = end1.Y - start1.Y;
        double b1 = start1.X - end1.X;
        double c1 = a1 * start1.X + b1 * start1.Y;

        double a2 = end2.Y - start2.Y;
        double b2 = start2.X - end2.X;
        double c2 = a2 * start2.X + b2 * start2.Y;

        double det = a1 * b2 - a2 * b1;
        if (det == 0) { // lines are parallel
            return null;
        }

        double x = (b2 * c1 - b1 * c2) / det;
        double y = (a1 * c2 - a2 * c1) / det;

        return new Point3D(x, y, 0.0);
    }

and this is my (simplified for the purpose of the answer) BoundingBox class:

public class BoundingBox {
    private Point3D min = new Point3D();
    private Point3D max = new Point3D();

    public BoundingBox(Point3D point) {
        min = point;
        max = point;
    }

    public Point3D Min {
        get { return min; }
        set { min = value; }
    }

    public Point3D Max {
        get { return max; }
        set { max = value; }
    }

    public bool Contains(BoundingBox box) {
        bool contains =
            min.X <= box.min.X && max.X >= box.max.X &&
            min.Y <= box.min.Y && max.Y >= box.max.Y &&
            min.Z <= box.min.Z && max.Z >= box.max.Z;
        return contains;
    }

    public bool Contains(Point3D point) {
        return Contains(new BoundingBox(point));
    }

}

Selenium WebDriver: Wait for complex page with JavaScript to load

If anyone actually knew a general and always-applicable answer, it would have been implemented everywhere ages ago and would make our lives SO much easier.

There are many things you can do, but every single one of them has a problem:

  1. As Ashwin Prabhu said, if you know the script well, you can observe its behaviour and track some of its variables on window or document etc. This solution, however, is not for everyone and can be used only by you and only on a limited set of pages.

  2. Your solution by observing the HTML code and whether it has or hasn't been changed for some time is not bad (also, there is a method to get the original and not-edited HTML directly by WebDriver), but:

    • It takes a long time to actually assert a page and could prolong the test significantly.
    • You never know what the right interval is. The script might be downloading something big that takes more than 500 ms. There are several scripts on our company's internal page that take several seconds in IE. Your computer may be temporarily short on resources - say that an antivirus will make your CPU work fully, then 500 ms may be too short even for a noncomplex scripts.
    • Some scripts are never done. They call themselves with some delay (setTimeout()) and work again and again and could possibly change the HTML every time they run. Seriously, every "Web 2.0" page does it. Even Stack Overflow. You could overwrite the most common methods used and consider the scripts that use them as completed, but ... you can't be sure.
    • What if the script does something other than changing the HTML? It could do thousands of things, not just some innerHTML fun.
  3. There are tools to help you on this. Namely Progress Listeners together with nsIWebProgressListener and some others. The browser support for this, however, is horrible. Firefox began to try to support it from FF4 onwards (still evolving), IE has basic support in IE9.

And I guess I could come up with another flawed solution soon. The fact is - there's no definite answer on when to say "now the page is complete" because of the everlasting scripts doing their work. Pick the one that serves you best, but beware of its shortcomings.

Difference between using gradlew and gradle

gradlew is a wrapper(w - character) that uses gradle.

Under the hood gradlew performs three main things:

  • Download and install the correct gradle version
  • Parse the arguments
  • Call a gradle task

Using Gradle Wrapper we can distribute/share a project to everybody to use the same version and Gradle's functionality(compile, build, install...) even if it has not been installed.

To create a wrapper run:

gradle wrapper

This command generate:

gradle-wrapper.properties will contain the information about the Gradle distribution

*./ Is used on Unix to specify the current directory

ERROR 2003 (HY000): Can't connect to MySQL server (111)

errno 111 is ECONNREFUSED, I suppose something is wrong with the router's DNAT.

It is also possible that your ISP is filtering that port.

Implementing multiple interfaces with Java - is there a way to delegate?

As said, there's no way. However, a bit decent IDE can autogenerate delegate methods. For example Eclipse can do. First setup a template:

public class MultipleInterfaces implements InterFaceOne, InterFaceTwo {
    private InterFaceOne if1;
    private InterFaceTwo if2;
}

then rightclick, choose Source > Generate Delegate Methods and tick the both if1 and if2 fields and click OK.

Read file data without saving it in Flask

I share my solution (assuming everything is already configured to connect to google bucket in flask)

from google.cloud import storage

@app.route('/upload/', methods=['POST'])
def upload():
    if request.method == 'POST':
        # FileStorage object wrapper
        file = request.files["file"]

Using the HTML5 "required" attribute for a group of checkboxes?

Really simple way to verify if at least one checkbox is checked:

function isAtLeastOneChecked(name) {
    let checkboxes = Array.from(document.getElementsByName(name));
    return checkboxes.some(e => e.checked);
}

Then you can implement whatever logic you want to display an error.

Can I prevent text in a div block from overflowing?

If your div has a set height in css that will cause it to overflow outside of the div.

You could give the div a min-height if you need to have it be a minimum height on the div at all times.

Min-height will not work in IE6 though, if you have an IE6 specific stylesheet you can give it a regular height for IE6. Height changes in IE6 according to the content within.

Is there any "font smoothing" in Google Chrome?

Ok you can use this simply

-webkit-text-stroke-width: .7px;
-webkit-text-stroke-color: #34343b;
-webkit-font-smoothing:antialiased;

Make sure your text color and upper text-stroke-width must me same and that's it.

Twitter Bootstrap Modal Form Submit

Updated 2018

Do you want to close the modal after submit? Whether the form in inside the modal or external to it you should be able to use jQuery ajax to submit the form.

Here is an example with the form inside the modal:

<a href="#myModal" role="button" class="btn" data-toggle="modal">Launch demo modal</a>

<div id="myModal" class="modal hide fade" tabindex="-1" role="dialog" aria-labelledby="myModalLabel" aria-hidden="true">
    <div class="modal-header">
        <button type="button" class="close" data-dismiss="modal" aria-hidden="true">×</button>
            <h3 id="myModalLabel">Modal header</h3>
    </div>
    <div class="modal-body">
        <form id="myForm" method="post">
          <input type="hidden" value="hello" id="myField">
            <button id="myFormSubmit" type="submit">Submit</button>
        </form>
    </div>
    <div class="modal-footer">
        <button class="btn" data-dismiss="modal" aria-hidden="true">Close</button>
        <button class="btn btn-primary">Save changes</button>
    </div>
</div>

And the jQuery ajax to get the form fields and submit it..

$('#myFormSubmit').click(function(e){
      e.preventDefault();
      alert($('#myField').val());
      /*
      $.post('http://path/to/post',
         $('#myForm').serialize(),
         function(data, status, xhr){
           // do something here with response;
         });
      */
});

What is the current choice for doing RPC in Python?

There are some attempts at making SOAP work with python, but I haven't tested it much so I can't say if it is good or not.

SOAPy is one example.

How to write a PHP ternary operator

A Ternary is not a good solution for what you want. It will not be readable in your code, and there are much better solutions available.

Why not use an array lookup "map" or "dictionary", like so:

$vocations = array(
    1 => "Sorcerer",
    2 => "Druid",
    3 => "Paladin",
    ...
);

echo $vocations[$result->vocation];

A ternary for this application would end up looking like this:

echo($result->group_id == 1 ? "Player" : ($result->group_id == 2 ? "Gamemaster" : ($result->group_id == 3 ? "God" : "unknown")));

Why is this bad? Because - as a single long line, you would get no valid debugging information if something were to go wrong here, the length makes it difficult to read, plus the nesting of the multiple ternaries just feels odd.

A Standard Ternary is simple, easy to read, and would look like this:

$value = ($condition) ? 'Truthy Value' : 'Falsey Value';

or

echo ($some_condition) ? 'The condition is true!' : 'The condition is false.';

A ternary is really just a convenient / shorter way to write a simple if else statement. The above sample ternary is the same as:

if ($some_condition) {
    echo 'The condition is true!';
} else {
    echo 'The condition is false!';
}

However, a ternary for a complex logic quickly becomes unreadable, and is no longer worth the brevity.

echo($result->group_id == 1 ? "Player" : ($result->group_id == 2 ? "Gamemaster" : ($result->group_id == 3 ? "God" : "unknown")));

Even with some attentive formatting to spread it over multiple lines, it's not very clear:

echo($result->group_id == 1
    ? "Player"
    : ($result->group_id == 2
        ? "Gamemaster"
        : ($result->group_id == 3
            ? "God"
            : "unknown")));

How to find EOF through fscanf?

If you have integers in your file fscanf returns 1 until integer occurs. For example:

FILE *in = fopen("./task.in", "r");
int length = 0;
int counter;
int sequence;

for ( int i = 0; i < 10; i++ ) {
    counter = fscanf(in, "%d", &sequence);
    if ( counter == 1 ) {
        length += 1;
    }
}

To find out the end of the file with symbols you can use EOF. For example:

char symbol;
FILE *in = fopen("./task.in", "r");

for ( ; fscanf(in, "%c", &symbol) != EOF; ) {
    printf("%c", symbol);
}

How to add buttons like refresh and search in ToolBar in Android?

Try to do this:

getSupportActionBar().setDisplayShowTitleEnabled(false);
getSupportActionBar().setDisplayHomeAsUpEnabled(false);
getSupportActionBar().setDisplayShowTitleEnabled(false);

and if you made your custom toolbar (which i presume you did) then you can use the simplest way possible to do this:

toolbarTitle = (TextView)findViewById(R.id.toolbar_title);
toolbarSubTitle = (TextView)findViewById(R.id.toolbar_subtitle);

how to show lines in common (reverse diff)?

Found this answer on a question listed as a duplicate. I find grep to be more admin-friendly than comm, so if you just want the set of matching lines (useful for comparing CSVs, for instance) simply use

grep -F -x -f file1 file2

or the simplified fgrep version

fgrep -xf file1 file2

Plus, you can use file2* to glob and look for lines in common with multiple files, rather than just two.

Some other handy variations include

  • -n flag to show the line number of each matched line
  • -c to only count the number of lines that match
  • -v to display only the lines in file2 that differ (or use diff).

Using comm is faster, but that speed comes at the expense of having to sort your files first. It isn't very useful as a 'reverse diff'.

How to get root view controller?

As suggested here by @0x7fffffff, if you have UINavigationController it can be easier to do:

YourViewController *rootController =
    (YourViewController *)
        [self.navigationController.viewControllers objectAtIndex: 0];

The code in the answer above returns UINavigation controller (if you have it) and if this is what you need, you can use self.navigationController.

How to import a Python class that is in a directory above?

Here's a three-step, somewhat minimalist version of ThorSummoner's answer for the sake of clarity. It doesn't quite do what I want (I'll explain at the bottom), but it works okay.

Step 1: Make directory and setup.py

filepath_to/project_name/
    setup.py

In setup.py, write:

import setuptools

setuptools.setup(name='project_name')

Step 2: Install this directory as a package

Run this code in console:

python -m pip install --editable filepath_to/project_name

Instead of python, you may need to use python3 or something, depending on how your python is installed. Also, you can use -e instead of --editable.

Now, your directory will look more or less like this. I don't know what the egg stuff is.

filepath_to/project_name/
    setup.py
    test_3.egg-info/
        dependency_links.txt
        PKG-INFO
        SOURCES.txt
        top_level.txt

This folder is considered a python package and you can import from files in this parent directory even if you're writing a script anywhere else on your computer.

Step 3. Import from above

Let's say you make two files, one in your project's main directory and another in a sub directory. It'll look like this:

filepath_to/project_name/
    top_level_file.py
    subdirectory/
        subfile.py

    setup.py          |
    test_3.egg-info/  |----- Ignore these guys
        ...           |

Now, if top_level_file.py looks like this:

x = 1

Then I can import it from subfile.py, or really any other file anywhere else on your computer.

# subfile.py  OR  some_other_python_file_somewhere_else.py

import random # This is a standard package that can be imported anywhere.
import top_level_file # Now, top_level_file.py works similarly.

print(top_level_file.x)

This is different than what I was looking for: I hoped python had a one-line way to import from a file above. Instead, I have to treat the script like a module, do a bunch of boilerplate, and install it globally for the entire python installation to have access to it. It's overkill. If anyone has a simpler method than doesn't involve the above process or importlib shenanigans, please let me know.

What are all the escape characters?

Java Escape Sequences:

\u{0000-FFFF} /* Unicode [Basic Multilingual Plane only, see below] hex value
                  does not handle unicode values higher than 0xFFFF (65535),
                  the high surrogate has to be separate: \uD852\uDF62
                  Four hex characters only (no variable width) */
\b             /* \u0008: backspace (BS) */
\t             /* \u0009: horizontal tab (HT) */
\n             /* \u000a: linefeed (LF) */
\f             /* \u000c: form feed (FF) */
\r             /* \u000d: carriage return (CR) */
\"             /* \u0022: double quote (") */
\'             /* \u0027: single quote (') */
\\             /* \u005c: backslash (\) */
\{0-377}       /* \u0000 to \u00ff: from octal value
                  1 to 3 octal digits (variable width) */

The Basic Multilingual Plane is the unicode values from 0x0000 - 0xFFFF (0 - 65535). Additional planes can only be specified in Java by multiple characters: the egyptian heiroglyph A054 (laying down dude) is U+1303F / &#77887; and would have to be broken into "\uD80C\uDC3F" (UTF-16) for Java strings. Some other languages support higher planes with "\U0001303F".

Include PHP inside JavaScript (.js) files

Actually the best way to accomplish this is to write the javascript in a .php and use jquery in a separate file to use the Jquery get script file or jquery load use php include function in the doc where the javascript will live. Essentially this is how it will look.

Dynamic Javascript File in a .php file extension - Contains a mixture of php variables pre processed by the server and the javascript that needs these variables in scripts.

Static Js File - Using http://api.jquery.com/jquery.getscript/ or http://api.jquery.com/load/

In the main html page call the static file as a regular js file. Calling the static js file will force load the dynamic data from the server.

some file.php 1:

<?php
$somevar = "Some Dynamic Data";
?>

$('input').val(<?php echo $somevar?>);

or simply echo the script such as

echo "$('input').val(".$somevar.");";

File 2:somejsfile.js:

$("#result").load( "file.php" );

File 3 myhtml.html:

<script src="somejsfile.js"></script>

I believe this answer the question for many people looking to mix php and javascript. It would be nice to have that data process in the background then have the user have delays waiting for data. You could also bypass the second file and simply use php's include on the main html page, you would just have your javascript exposed on the main page. For performance that is up to you and how you want to handle all of that.

How do I calculate the MD5 checksum of a file in Python?

In regards to your error and what's missing in your code. m is a name which is not defined for getmd5() function.

No offence, I know you are a beginner, but your code is all over the place. Let's look at your issues one by one :)

First, you are not using hashlib.md5.hexdigest() method correctly. Please refer explanation on hashlib functions in Python Doc Library. The correct way to return MD5 for provided string is to do something like this:

>>> import hashlib
>>> hashlib.md5("filename.exe").hexdigest()
'2a53375ff139d9837e93a38a279d63e5'

However, you have a bigger problem here. You are calculating MD5 on a file name string, where in reality MD5 is calculated based on file contents. You will need to basically read file contents and pipe it though MD5. My next example is not very efficient, but something like this:

>>> import hashlib
>>> hashlib.md5(open('filename.exe','rb').read()).hexdigest()
'd41d8cd98f00b204e9800998ecf8427e'

As you can clearly see second MD5 hash is totally different from the first one. The reason for that is that we are pushing contents of the file through, not just file name.

A simple solution could be something like that:

# Import hashlib library (md5 method is part of it)
import hashlib

# File to check
file_name = 'filename.exe'

# Correct original md5 goes here
original_md5 = '5d41402abc4b2a76b9719d911017c592'

# Open,close, read file and calculate MD5 on its contents
with open(file_name) as file_to_check:
    # read contents of the file
    data = file_to_check.read()
    # pipe contents of the file through
    md5_returned = hashlib.md5(data).hexdigest()

# Finally compare original MD5 with freshly calculated
if original_md5 == md5_returned:
    print "MD5 verified."
else:
    print "MD5 verification failed!."

Please look at the post Python: Generating a MD5 checksum of a file. It explains in detail a couple of ways how it can be achieved efficiently.

Best of luck.

Reloading module giving NameError: name 'reload' is not defined

If you don't want to use external libs, then one solution is to recreate the reload method from python 2 for python 3 as below. Use this in the top of the module (assumes python 3.4+).

import sys
if(sys.version_info.major>=3):
    def reload(MODULE):
        import importlib
        importlib.reload(MODULE)

BTW reload is very much required if you use python files as config files and want to avoid restarts of the application.....

How to determine if binary tree is balanced?

Stumbled across this old question while searching for something else. I notice that you never did get a complete answer.

The way to solve this problem is to start by writing a specification for the function you are trying to write.

Specification: A well-formed binary tree is said to be "height-balanced" if (1) it is empty, or (2) its left and right children are height-balanced and the height of the left tree is within 1 of the height of the right tree.

Now that you have the specification, the code is trivial to write. Just follow the specification:

IsHeightBalanced(tree)
    return (tree is empty) or
           (IsHeightBalanced(tree.left) and
            IsHeightBalanced(tree.right) and
            abs(Height(tree.left) - Height(tree.right)) <= 1)

Translating that into the programming language of your choice should be trivial.

Bonus exercise: this naive code sketch traverses the tree far too many times when computing the heights. Can you make it more efficient?

Super bonus exercise: suppose the tree is massively unbalanced. Like, a million nodes deep on one side and three deep on the other. Is there a scenario in which this algorithm blows the stack? Can you fix the implementation so that it never blows the stack, even when given a massively unbalanced tree?

UPDATE: Donal Fellows points out in his answer that there are different definitions of 'balanced' that one could choose. For example, one could take a stricter definition of "height balanced", and require that the path length to the nearest empty child is within one of the path to the farthest empty child. My definition is less strict than that, and therefore admits more trees.

One can also be less strict than my definition; one could say that a balanced tree is one in which the maximum path length to an empty tree on each branch differs by no more than two, or three, or some other constant. Or that the maximum path length is some fraction of the minimum path length, like a half or a quarter.

It really doesn't matter usually. The point of any tree-balancing algorithm is to ensure that you do not wind up in the situation where you have a million nodes on one side and three on the other. Donal's definition is fine in theory, but in practice it is a pain coming up with a tree-balancing algorithm that meets that level of strictness. The performance savings usually does not justify the implementation cost. You spend a lot of time doing unnecessary tree rearrangements in order to attain a level of balance that in practice makes little difference. Who cares if sometimes it takes forty branches to get to the farthest leaf in a million-node imperfectly-balanced tree when it could in theory take only twenty in a perfectly balanced tree? The point is that it doesn't ever take a million. Getting from a worst case of a million down to a worst case of forty is usually good enough; you don't have to go all the way to the optimal case.

LINQ Joining in C# with multiple conditions

As far as I know you can only join this way:

var query = from obj_i in set1
join obj_j in set2 on
    new {
      JoinProperty1 = obj_i.SomeField1,
      JoinProperty2 = obj_i.SomeField2,
      JoinProperty3 = obj_i.SomeField3,
      JoinProperty4 = obj_i.SomeField4
    }
    equals
    new {
      JoinProperty1 = obj_j.SomeOtherField1,
      JoinProperty2 = obj_j.SomeOtherField2,
      JoinProperty3 = obj_j.SomeOtherField3,
      JoinProperty4 = obj_j.SomeOtherField4
    }

The main requirements are: Property names, types and order in the anonymous objects you're joining on must match.

You CAN'T use ANDs, ORs, etc. in joins. Just object1 equals object2.

More advanced stuff in this LinqPad example:

class c1
    {
    public int someIntField;
    public string someStringField;
    }

class c2
    {
    public Int64 someInt64Property {get;set;}
    private object someField;
    public string someStringFunction(){return someField.ToString();}
    }

void Main()
{
    var set1 = new List<c1>();
    var set2 = new List<c2>();

    var query = from obj_i in set1
    join obj_j in set2 on
        new {
                JoinProperty1 = (Int64) obj_i.someIntField,
                JoinProperty2 = obj_i.someStringField
            }
        equals
        new {
                JoinProperty1 = obj_j.someInt64Property,
                JoinProperty2 = obj_j.someStringFunction()
            }
    select new {obj1 = obj_i, obj2 = obj_j};
}

Addressing names and property order is straightforward, addressing types can be achieved via casting/converting/parsing/calling methods etc. This might not always work with LINQ to EF or SQL or NHibernate, most method calls definitely won't work and will fail at run-time, so YMMV (Your Mileage May Vary). This is because they are copied to public read-only properties in the anonymous objects, so as long as your expression produces values of correct type the join property - you should be fine.

Decimal values in SQL for dividing results

You will need to cast or convert the values to decimal before division. Take a look at this http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa226054.aspx

For example

DECLARE @num1 int = 3 DECLARE @num2 int = 2

SELECT @num1/@num2

SELECT @num1/CONVERT(decimal(4,2), @num2)

The first SELECT will result in what you're seeing while the second SELECT will have the correct answer 1.500000

How to push object into an array using AngularJS

You should try this way. It will definitely work.

(function() {

var app = angular.module('myApp', []);

 app.controller('myController', ['$scope', function($scope) {

    $scope.myText = "Object Push inside ";

    $scope.arrayText = [

        ];

    $scope.addText = function() {
        $scope.arrayText.push(this.myText);
    }

 }]);

})();

In your case $scope.arrayText is an object. You should initialize as a array.

How to run two jQuery animations simultaneously?

I believe I found the solution in the jQuery documentation:

Animates all paragraph to a left style of 50 and opacity of 1 (opaque, visible), completing the animation within 500 milliseconds. It also will do it outside the queue, meaning it will automatically start without waiting for its turn.

$( "p" ).animate({
  left: "50px", opacity: 1
}, { duration: 500, queue: false });

simply add: queue: false.

Why can't I reference my class library?

I had a similar problems where VS would sometimes build and sometimes not. After some searching and attempts I discovered that I had an ambiguous reference to a class with the same name in different libraries ('FileManager'). The project that would not build were my Unit Tests that reference all modules in my solution. Enforcing the reference to a specific module sorted things out for me.

My point is: Rather than blaming ReSharper or VS, it may be a good idea to double check if there really isn't some kind of circular reference somehow. More than often, classes with the same names in different modules could cause confusion and is often a symptom of bad design (like in my case).

Gnuplot line types

Until version 4.6

The dash type of a linestyle is given by the linetype, which does also select the line color unless you explicitely set an other one with linecolor.

However, the support for dashed lines depends on the selected terminal:

  1. Some terminals don't support dashed lines, like png (uses libgd)
  2. Other terminals, like pngcairo, support dashed lines, but it is disables by default. To enable it, use set termoption dashed, or set terminal pngcairo dashed ....
  3. The exact dash patterns differ between terminals. To see the defined linetype, use the test command:

Running

set terminal pngcairo dashed
set output 'test.png'
test
set output

gives:

enter image description here

whereas, the postscript terminal shows different dash patterns:

set terminal postscript eps color colortext
set output 'test.eps'
test
set output

enter image description here

Version 5.0

Starting with version 5.0 the following changes related to linetypes, dash patterns and line colors are introduced:

  • A new dashtype parameter was introduced:

    To get the predefined dash patterns, use e.g.

    plot x dashtype 2

    You can also specify custom dash patterns like

    plot x dashtype (3,5,10,5),\
         2*x dashtype '.-_'

  • The terminal options dashed and solid are ignored. By default all lines are solid. To change them to dashed, use e.g.

    set for [i=1:8] linetype i dashtype i

  • The default set of line colors was changed. You can select between three different color sets with set colorsequence default|podo|classic:

       out=`echo "$out" | sed 's/[[:space:]]/_/g'`
       #echo "ffmpeg -i $out_e -sameq -vcodec msmpeg4v2 -acodec pcm_u8 $dir_e/${out/%mov/avi}"
       `ffmpeg -i "$file" -sameq -vcodec msmpeg4v2 -acodec pcm_u8 "$dir"/${out/%mov/avi}`
   done
done

The above code will convert .mov files to .avi. The .mov files are in different folders and the folder names have white spaces too. My above script will convert the .mov files to .avi file in the same folder itself. I don't know whether it help you peoples.

Case:

[sony@localhost shell_tutorial]$ ls
Chapter 01 - Introduction Chapter 02 - Your First Shell Script
[sony@localhost shell_tutorial]$ cd Chapter\ 01\ -\ Introduction/
[sony@localhost Chapter 01 - Introduction]$ ls
0101 - About this Course.mov   0102 - Course Structure.mov
[sony@localhost Chapter 01 - Introduction]$ ./above_script
 ... successfully executed.
[sony@localhost Chapter 01 - Introduction]$ ls
0101_-_About_this_Course.avi  0102_-_Course_Structure.avi
0101 - About this Course.mov  0102 - Course Structure.mov
[sony@localhost Chapter 01 - Introduction]$ CHEERS!

Cheers!

how to use free cloud database with android app?

Now there are a lot of cloud providers , providing solutions like MBaaS (Mobile Backend as a Service). Some only give access to cloud database, some will do the user management for you, some let you place code around cloud database and there are facilities of access control, push notifications, analytics, integrated image and file hosting etc.

Here are some providers which have a "free-tier" (may change in future):

  1. Firebase (Google) - https://firebase.google.com/
  2. AWS Mobile (Amazon) - https://aws.amazon.com/mobile/
  3. Azure Mobile (Microsoft) - https://azure.microsoft.com/en-in/services/app-service/mobile/
  4. MongoDB Realm (MongoDB) - https://www.mongodb.com/realm
  5. Back4app (Popular) - https://www.back4app.com/

Open source solutions:

  1. Parse - http://parseplatform.org/
  2. Apache User Grid - https://usergrid.apache.org/
  3. SupaBase (under development) - https://supabase.io/

Floating point exception

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Division_by_zero

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unix_signal#SIGFPE

This should give you a really good idea. Since a modulus is, in its basic sense, division with a remainder, something % 0 IS division by zero and as such, will trigger a SIGFPE being thrown.

rails 3 validation on uniqueness on multiple attributes

Multiple Scope Parameters:

class TeacherSchedule < ActiveRecord::Base
  validates_uniqueness_of :teacher_id, :scope => [:semester_id, :class_id]
end

http://apidock.com/rails/ActiveRecord/Validations/ClassMethods/validates_uniqueness_of

This should answer Greg's question.
