In this example, they loaded a blank popup window into an object, cloned the contents of the element to be displayed, and appended it to the body of the object. Since I already knew what the contents of view-details (or any page I load in the lightbox), I just had to clone that content instead and load it into an object. Then, I just needed to print that object. The final outcome looks like this:

I had one small drawback in that the style sheet I was using in view-details.php was using a relative link. I had to change it to an absolute link. The reason being that the window didn't have a URL associated with it, so it had no relative position to draw on.

Works in Firefox. I need to test it in some other major browsers too.

I don't know how well this solution works when you're dealing with images, videos, or other process intensive solutions. Although, it works pretty well in my case, since I'm just loading tables and text values.

  • The button displays a little blue cross, much like the one used to close a window.

By using reduce function, array is iterator and the new values are stored in acc (accumulating) parameter. To check if the object with given group already exists we can use findIndex function.

If findIndex() return -1, the value does not exist, so add the array in the acc parameter.

If findIndex() return index, then update the index with the arr values.

Really depends on your module loader. If you are using systemjs with baseurl then it would work. VSCode uses its own custom module loader (based on an old version of requirejs).

Recommendation

Use relative paths as that is what commonjs supports. If you move files around you will get a typescript compile time error (a good thing) so you will be better off than a great majority of pure js projects out there (on npm).

Gradle: Could not determine java version from '11.0.2'

tl;dr: downgrade java by running update-alternatives


My system gradle version was 4.4.1, and the gradle wrapper version was 4.0. After running the command given by several other answers:

gradle wrapper --gradle-version 4.4.1

I still had the same error:

FAILURE: Build failed with an exception.

* What went wrong:
Could not determine java version from '11.0.4'.

It turns out java 11 wasn't supported until gradle 4.8, and my software repositories only had 4.4.1. (Also, upgrading to newer gradle version might have been incompatible with the package I was trying to compile.)

The answer was to downgrade java. My system actually had java8 already installed, and it was easy to switch between java versions by running this command and following the instructions:

sudo update-alternatives --config java

VSCode will never refresh the file if you have changes in that file that are not saved to disk. However, if the file is open and does not have changes, it will replace with the changes on disk, that is true.

Is Fortran easier to optimize than C for heavy calculations?

Using modern standards and compiler, no!

Some of the folks here have suggested that FORTRAN is faster because the compiler doesn't need to worry about aliasing (and hence can make more assumptions during optimisation). However, this has been dealt with in C since the C99 (I think) standard with the inclusion of the restrict keyword. Which basically tells the compiler, that within a give scope, the pointer is not aliased. Furthermore C enables proper pointer arithmetic, where things like aliasing can be very useful in terms of performance and resource allocation. Although I think more recent version of FORTRAN enable the use of "proper" pointers.

For modern implementations C general outperforms FORTRAN (although it is very fast too).

I have the same problem, but you know why? because I didn't put .txt in the end of my File and so it was File not a textFile, you shoud do just two things:

  1. Put your Text File in the Root Directory (e.x if you have a project called HelloWorld, just right-click on the HelloWorld file in the package Directory and create File
  2. Save as that File with any name that you want but with a .txt in the end of that I guess your problem is solved, but I write it to other peoples know that. Thanks.

Reusing a PreparedStatement multiple times

The second way is a tad more efficient, but a much better way is to execute them in batches:

As to the multithreaded environments, you don't need to worry about this if you acquire and close the connection and the statement in the shortest possible scope inside the same method block according the normal JDBC idiom using try-with-resources statement as shown in above snippets.

If those batches are transactional, then you'd like to turn off autocommit of the connection and only commit the transaction when all batches are finished. Otherwise it may result in a dirty database when the first bunch of batches succeeded and the later not.

I think the only full solution is to report notices with

error_reporting(E_ALL); // Enables E_NOTICE

But you will have to fix all the notices generated by undefined variables, constants, array keys, class properties amongst others. Once you have done that you won't have to worry about the difference between null and not declared variables, and the ambiguity dissappears.

Enabling notice reporting might not be a good alternative in all situations, but there are good reasons to enable it:

According to Google's Machine Learning Glossary, an epoch is defined as

"A full training pass over the entire dataset such that each example has been seen once. Thus, an epoch represents N/batch_size training iterations, where N is the total number of examples."

If you are training model for 10 epochs with batch size 6, given total 12 samples that means:

  1. the model will be able to see whole dataset in 2 iterations ( 12 / 6 = 2) i.e. single epoch.

  2. overall, the model will have 2 X 10 = 20 iterations (iterations-per-epoch X no-of-epochs)

  3. re-evaluation of loss and model parameters will be performed after each iteration!

Can a CSV file have a comment?

No, CSV doesn't specify any way of tagging comments - they will just be loaded by programs like Excel as additional cells containing text.

The closest you can manage (with CSV being imported into a specific application such as Excel) is to define a special way of tagging comments that Excel will ignore. For Excel, you can "hide" the comment (to a limited degree) by embedding it into a formula. For example, try importing the following csv file into Excel:

Posting to Twitter needs the image's actual path on the device to be sent in the request to post. I was finding it mighty difficult to get the actual path and more often than not I would get the wrong path.

To counter that, once you have a Bitmap, I use that to get the URI from using the getImageUri(). Subsequently, I use the tempUri Uri instance to get the actual path as it is on the device.

Difference between core and processor

CPU is a central processing unit. Since 2002 we have only single core processor i.e. we will only perform a single task or a program at a time.

For having multiple programs run at a time we have to use the multiple processor for executing multi processes at a time so we required another motherboard for that and that is very expensive.

So, Intel introduced the concept of hyper threading i.e. it will convert the single CPU into two virtual CPUs i.e we have two cores for our task. Now the CPU is single, but it is only pretending (masqueraded) that it has a dual CPU and performs multiple tasks. But having real multiple cores will be better than that so people develop making multi-core processor i.e. multiple processors on a single box i.e. grabbing a multiple CPU on single big CPU. I.e. multiple cores.

means each item(a tuple value) in unpaidMembers, only have 1 parts:email, which corresponding above code

    unpaidMembers[name] = email

so should change code to:

to avoid error.

But obviously you expect extra lastname, so should change your above code to

    unpaidMembers[name] = (email, lastname)

and better change to better syntax:

How can I make a JUnit test wait?

There is a general problem: it's hard to mock time. Also, it's really bad practice to place long running/waiting code in a unit test.

So, for making a scheduling API testable, I used an interface with a real and a mock implementation like this:

Getting access of methods like "getDeviceIdGemini" for other SIM slot's detail has prediction that method exist.

If that method's name doesn't match with one given by device manufacturer than it will not work. You have to find corresponding method name for those devices.

Finding method names for other manufacturers can be done using Java reflection as follows :

From the documentation:

The $.browser property is deprecated in jQuery 1.3, and its functionality may be moved to a team-supported plugin in a future release of jQuery.

So, yes, it is deprecated, but your existing implementations will continue to work. If the functionality is removed, it will likely be easily accessible using a plugin.

As to whether there is an alternative... The answer is "yes, probably". It is far, far better to do feature detection using $.support rather than browser detection: detect the actual feature you need, not the browser that provides it. Most important features that vary from browser to browser are detected with that.


Update 16 February 2013: In jQuery 1.9, this feature was removed (docs). It is far better not to use it. If you really, really must use its functionality, you can restore it with the jQuery Migrate plugin.

There is an onpaste event that works in modern day browsers. You can access the pasted data using the getData function on the clipboardData object.

there are a couple of ways of using a timer:

1) scheduled timer & using selector

As a side note, instead of using a timer that doesn't repeat and calls the selector after a specified interval, you could use a simple statement like this:

this will have the same effect as the sample code above; but if you want to call the selector every nth time, you use the timer with repeats:YES;

To further compliment Andrés Torres Marroquín and Leo Dabus, I have a version that preserves fractional seconds. I can't find it documented anywhere, but Apple truncate fractional seconds to the microsecond (3 digits of precision) on both input and output (even though specified using SSSSSSS, contrary to Unicode tr35-31).

I should stress that this is probably not necessary for most use cases. Dates online do not typically need millisecond precision, and when they do, it is often better to use a different data format. But sometimes one must interoperate with a pre-existing system in a particular way.

Struct memory layout in C

It's implementation-specific, but in practice the rule (in the absence of #pragma pack or the like) is:

  • Struct members are stored in the order they are declared. (This is required by the C99 standard, as mentioned here earlier.)
  • If necessary, padding is added before each struct member, to ensure correct alignment.
  • Each primitive type T requires an alignment of sizeof(T) bytes.

So, given the following struct:

What is the maximum possible length of a query string?

RFC 2616 (Hypertext Transfer Protocol — HTTP/1.1) states there is no limit to the length of a query string (section 3.2.1). RFC 3986 (Uniform Resource Identifier — URI) also states there is no limit, but indicates the hostname is limited to 255 characters because of DNS limitations (section 2.3.3).

While the specifications do not specify any maximum length, practical limits are imposed by web browser and server software. Based on research which is unfortunately no longer available on its original site (it leads to a shady seeming loan site) but which can still be found at Internet Archive Of Boutell.com:

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer (Browser)
    Microsoft states that the maximum length of a URL in Internet Explorer is 2,083 characters, with no more than 2,048 characters in the path portion of the URL. Attempts to use URLs longer than this produced a clear error message in Internet Explorer.

  • Microsoft Edge (Browser)
    The limit appears to be around 81578 characters. See URL Length limitation of Microsoft Edge

  • Chrome
    It stops displaying the URL after 64k characters, but can serve more than 100k characters. No further testing was done beyond that.

  • Firefox (Browser)
    After 65,536 characters, the location bar no longer displays the URL in Windows Firefox 1.5.x. However, longer URLs will work. No further testing was done after 100,000 characters.

  • Safari (Browser)
    At least 80,000 characters will work. Testing was not tried beyond that.

  • Opera (Browser)
    At least 190,000 characters will work. Stopped testing after 190,000 characters. Opera 9 for Windows continued to display a fully editable, copyable and pasteable URL in the location bar even at 190,000 characters.

  • Apache (Server)
    Early attempts to measure the maximum URL length in web browsers bumped into a server URL length limit of approximately 4,000 characters, after which Apache produces a "413 Entity Too Large" error. The current up to date Apache build found in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 was used. The official Apache documentation only mentions an 8,192-byte limit on an individual field in a request.

  • Microsoft Internet Information Server (Server)
    The default limit is 16,384 characters (yes, Microsoft's web server accepts longer URLs than Microsoft's web browser). This is configurable.

  • Perl HTTP::Daemon (Server)
    Up to 8,000 bytes will work. Those constructing web application servers with Perl's HTTP::Daemon module will encounter a 16,384 byte limit on the combined size of all HTTP request headers. This does not include POST-method form data, file uploads, etc., but it does include the URL. In practice this resulted in a 413 error when a URL was significantly longer than 8,000 characters. This limitation can be easily removed. Look for all occurrences of 16x1024 in Daemon.pm and replace them with a larger value. Of course, this does increase your exposure to denial of service attacks.

Admittedly, it is more Pythonic than of the PHP idiom, but on the other hand, you don't have to worry about dealing with a copious amount of extra data.

Assuming that I had made some gargantuan error, I went and I ran some benchmarks, and this is what I found that my solution is over 10% faster than the nearest alternative when the table does not exist, and it over 25% faster when the table does exist:

I tried running this against DESC, but I had a timeout after 276 seconds (24 seconds for my answer, 276 to fail to complete the description of a non existing table).

For good measure, I am benchmarking against a schema with only four tables in it and this is an almost fresh MySQL install (this is the only database so far). To see the export, look here.

This particular solution is also more database independent as the same query will work in PgSQL and Oracle.

FINALLY

mysql_query() returns FALSE for errors that aren't "this table doesn't exist".

If you need to guarantee that the table doesn't exist, use mysql_errno() to get the error code and compare it to the relevant MySQL errors.

Special Case for Configuration change

It is possible that the user will rotate the device or otherwise trigger a configuration change while our permission dialog is in the foreground. Since our activity is still visible behind that dialog, we get destroyed and recreated… but we do not want to re-raise the permission dialog again.

That is why we have a boolean, named isInPermission, that tracks whether or not we are in the middle of requesting permissions. We hold onto that value in onSaveInstanceState():

Getting path relative to the current working directory?

You can use Environment.CurrentDirectory to get the current directory, and FileSystemInfo.FullPath to get the full path to any location. So, fully qualify both the current directory and the file in question, and then check whether the full file name starts with the directory name - if it does, just take the appropriate substring based on the directory name's length.

Here's some sample code:

The Question is not private or public, the question is: How is it invoked and which AOP implementation you use!

If you use (default) Spring Proxy AOP, then all AOP functionality provided by Spring (like @Transactional) will only be taken into account if the call goes through the proxy. -- This is normally the case if the annotated method is invoked from another bean.

This has two implications:

  • Because private methods must not be invoked from another bean (the exception is reflection), their @Transactional Annotation is not taken into account.
  • If the method is public, but it is invoked from the same bean, it will not be taken into account either (this statement is only correct if (default) Spring Proxy AOP is used).

IMHO you should use the aspectJ mode, instead of the Spring Proxies, that will overcome the problem. And the AspectJ Transactional Aspects are woven even into private methods (checked for Spring 3.0).

Though I found Gabriel answer to work to a degree i did find the following when trying to order the list vertically (first ul A-D and second ul E-G):

  • When the ul had an even number of li's in it, it was not evenly spreading it across the ul's
  • using the data-column in the ul didn't seem to work very well, I had to put 4 for 3 columns and even then it was still only spreading the li's into 2 of the ul generated by the JS

I have revised the JQuery so the above hopefully doesn't happen.

Preface:

This answer is over six years old. While the concepts and application of JSONP haven't changed (i.e. the details of the answer are still valid), you should look to use CORS where possible (i.e. your server or API supports it, and the browser support is adequate), as JSONP has inherent security risks.


JSONP (JSON with Padding) is a method commonly used to bypass the cross-domain policies in web browsers. (You are not allowed to make AJAX requests to a web page perceived to be on a different server by the browser.)

JSON and JSONP behave differently on the client and the server. JSONP requests are not dispatched using the XMLHTTPRequest and the associated browser methods. Instead a <script> tag is created, whose source is set to the target URL. This script tag is then added to the DOM (normally inside the <head> element).

The difference between a JSON response and a JSONP response is that the JSONP response object is passed as an argument to a callback function.

JSON:

This is why you see JSONP requests containing the callback parameter, so that the server knows the name of the function to wrap the response.

This function must exist in the global scope at the time the <script> tag is evaluated by the browser (once the request has completed).


Another difference to be aware of between the handling of a JSON response and a JSONP response is that any parse errors in a JSON response could be caught by wrapping the attempt to evaluate the responseText in a try/catch statement. Because of the nature of a JSONP response, parse errors in the response will cause an uncatchable JavaScript parse error.

Both formats can implement timeout errors by setting a timeout before initiating the request and clearing the timeout in the response handler.


Using jQuery

The usefulness of using jQuery to make JSONP requests, is that jQuery does all of the work for you in the background.

By default jQuery requires you to include &callback=? in the URL of your AJAX request. jQuery will take the success function you specify, assign it a unique name, and publish it in the global scope. It will then replace the question mark ? in &callback=? with the name it has assigned.

Spring Boot yaml configuration for a list of strings

In my case this was a syntax issue in the .yml file. I had:

and the list in my .yml file:

The value violated the integrity constraints for the column

I've found that this can happen due to a number of various reasons.

In my case when I scroll to the end of the SQL import "Report", under the "Post-execute (Success)" heading it will tell me how many rows were copied and it's usually the next row in sheet which has the issue. Also you can tell which column by the import messages (in your case it was "Copy of F2") so you can generally find out which was the offending cell in Excel.

I've seen this happen for very silly reasons such as the date format in Excel being different than previous rows. For example cell A2 being "05/02/2017" while A3 being "5/2/2017" or even "05-02-2017". It seems the import wants things to be perfectly consistent.

It even happens if the Excel formats are different so if B2 is "512" but an Excel "Number" format and B3 is "512" but an Excel "Text" format then the Cell will cause an error.

I've also had situations where I literally had to delete all the "empty" rows below my data rows in the Excel sheet. Sometimes they appear empty but Excel considers them having "blank" data or something like that so the import tries to import them as well. This usually happens if you've had previous data in your Excel sheet which you've cleared but haven't properly deleted the rows.

And then there's the obvious reasons of trying to import text value into an integer column or insert a NULL into a NOT NULL column as mentioned by the others.

I don't understand, why you don't want to set the $HOME environment variable since that solves exactly what you're asking for.

cd ~ doesn't mean change to the root directory, but change to the user's home directory, which is set by the $HOME environment variable.

Quick'n'dirty solution

Edit C:\Program Files (x86)\Git\etc\profile and set $HOME variable to whatever you want (add it if it's not there). A good place could be for example right after a condition commented by # Set up USER's home directory. It must be in the MinGW format, for example:

Save it, open Git Bash and execute cd ~. You should be in a directory /c/my/custom/home now.

Everything that accesses the user's profile should go into this directory instead of your Windows' profile on a network drive.

Note: C:\Program Files (x86)\Git\etc\profile is shared by all users, so if the machine is used by multiple users, it's a good idea to set the $HOME dynamically:

What is the difference between a hash join and a merge join (Oracle RDBMS )?

I just want to edit this for posterity that the tags for oracle weren't added when I answered this question. My response was more applicable to MS SQL.

Merge join is the best possible as it exploits the ordering, resulting in a single pass down the tables to do the join. IF you have two tables (or covering indexes) that have their ordering the same such as a primary key and an index of a table on that key then a merge join would result if you performed that action.

Hash join is the next best, as it's usually done when one table has a small number (relatively) of items, its effectively creating a temp table with hashes for each row which is then searched continuously to create the join.

Worst case is nested loop which is order (n * m) which means there is no ordering or size to exploit and the join is simply, for each row in table x, search table y for joins to do.

With C99 the %j length modifier can also be used with the printf family of functions to print values of type int64_t and uint64_t:

This is according to printf(3) on my Linux system (the man page specifically says that j is used to indicate a conversion to an intmax_t or uintmax_t; in my stdint.h, both int64_t and intmax_t are typedef'd in exactly the same way, and similarly for uint64_t). I'm not sure if this is perfectly portable to other systems.

Mockito: Inject real objects into private @Autowired fields

Mockito is not a DI framework and even DI frameworks encourage constructor injections over field injections.
So you just declare a constructor to set dependencies of the class under test :

Using Mockito spy for the general case is a terrible advise. It makes the test class brittle, not straight and error prone : What is really mocked ? What is really tested ?
@InjectMocks and @Spy also hurts the overall design since it encourages bloated classes and mixed responsibilities in the classes.
Please read the spy() javadoc before using that blindly (emphasis is not mine) :

Creates a spy of the real object. The spy calls real methods unless they are stubbed. Real spies should be used carefully and occasionally, for example when dealing with legacy code.

As usual you are going to read the partial mock warning: Object oriented programming tackles complexity by dividing the complexity into separate, specific, SRPy objects. How does partial mock fit into this paradigm? Well, it just doesn't... Partial mock usually means that the complexity has been moved to a different method on the same object. In most cases, this is not the way you want to design your application.

However, there are rare cases when partial mocks come handy: dealing with code you cannot change easily (3rd party interfaces, interim refactoring of legacy code etc.) However, I wouldn't use partial mocks for new, test-driven & well-designed code.

How do Mockito matchers work?

Mockito matchers are static methods and calls to those methods, which stand in for arguments during calls to when and verify.

Hamcrest matchers (archived version) (or Hamcrest-style matchers) are stateless, general-purpose object instances that implement Matcher<T> and expose a method matches(T) that returns true if the object matches the Matcher's criteria. They are intended to be free of side effects, and are generally used in assertions such as the one below.

Mockito matchers exist, separate from Hamcrest-style matchers, so that descriptions of matching expressions fit directly into method invocations: Mockito matchers return T where Hamcrest matcher methods return Matcher objects (of type Matcher<T>).

Mockito matchers are invoked through static methods such as eq, any, gt, and startsWith on org.mockito.Matchers and org.mockito.AdditionalMatchers. There are also adapters, which have changed across Mockito versions:

  • For Mockito 1.x, Matchers featured some calls (such as intThat or argThat) are Mockito matchers that directly accept Hamcrest matchers as parameters. ArgumentMatcher<T> extended org.hamcrest.Matcher<T>, which was used in the internal Hamcrest representation and was a Hamcrest matcher base class instead of any sort of Mockito matcher.
  • For Mockito 2.0+, Mockito no longer has a direct dependency on Hamcrest. Matchers calls phrased as intThat or argThat wrap ArgumentMatcher<T> objects that no longer implement org.hamcrest.Matcher<T> but are used in similar ways. Hamcrest adapters such as argThat and intThat are still available, but have moved to MockitoHamcrest instead.

Regardless of whether the matchers are Hamcrest or simply Hamcrest-style, they can be adapted like so:

In the above statement: foo.setPowerLevel is a method that accepts an int. is(greaterThan(9000)) returns a Matcher<Integer>, which wouldn't work as a setPowerLevel argument. The Mockito matcher intThat wraps that Hamcrest-style Matcher and returns an int so it can appear as an argument; Mockito matchers like gt(9000) would wrap that entire expression into a single call, as in the first line of example code.

What matchers do/return

When not using argument matchers, Mockito records your argument values and compares them with their equals methods.

When you call a matcher like any or gt (greater than), Mockito stores a matcher object that causes Mockito to skip that equality check and apply your match of choice. In the case of argumentCaptor.capture() it stores a matcher that saves its argument instead for later inspection.

Matchers return dummy values such as zero, empty collections, or null. Mockito tries to return a safe, appropriate dummy value, like 0 for anyInt() or any(Integer.class) or an empty List<String> for anyListOf(String.class). Because of type erasure, though, Mockito lacks type information to return any value but null for any() or argThat(...), which can cause a NullPointerException if trying to "auto-unbox" a null primitive value.

Matchers like eq and gt take parameter values; ideally, these values should be computed before the stubbing/verification starts. Calling a mock in the middle of mocking another call can interfere with stubbing.

Matcher methods can't be used as return values; there is no way to phrase thenReturn(anyInt()) or thenReturn(any(Foo.class)) in Mockito, for instance. Mockito needs to know exactly which instance to return in stubbing calls, and will not choose an arbitrary return value for you.

Implementation details

Matchers are stored (as Hamcrest-style object matchers) in a stack contained in a class called ArgumentMatcherStorage. MockitoCore and Matchers each own a ThreadSafeMockingProgress instance, which statically contains a ThreadLocal holding MockingProgress instances. It's this MockingProgressImpl that holds a concrete ArgumentMatcherStorageImpl. Consequently, mock and matcher state is static but thread-scoped consistently between the Mockito and Matchers classes.

Most matcher calls only add to this stack, with an exception for matchers like and, or, and not. This perfectly corresponds to (and relies on) the evaluation order of Java, which evaluates arguments left-to-right before invoking a method:

This will:

  1. Add anyInt() to the stack.
  2. Add gt(10) to the stack.
  3. Add lt(20) to the stack.
  4. Remove gt(10) and lt(20) and add and(gt(10), lt(20)).
  5. Call foo.quux(0, 0), which (unless otherwise stubbed) returns the default value false. Internally Mockito marks quux(int, int) as the most recent call.
  6. Call when(false), which discards its argument and prepares to stub method quux(int, int) identified in 5. The only two valid states are with stack length 0 (equality) or 2 (matchers), and there are two matchers on the stack (steps 1 and 4), so Mockito stubs the method with an any() matcher for its first argument and and(gt(10), lt(20)) for its second argument and clears the stack.

This demonstrates a few rules:

  • Mockito can't tell the difference between quux(anyInt(), 0) and quux(0, anyInt()). They both look like a call to quux(0, 0) with one int matcher on the stack. Consequently, if you use one matcher, you have to match all arguments.

  • Call order isn't just important, it's what makes this all work. Extracting matchers to variables generally doesn't work, because it usually changes the call order. Extracting matchers to methods, however, works great.

  • The stack changes often enough that Mockito can't police it very carefully. It can only check the stack when you interact with Mockito or a mock, and has to accept matchers without knowing whether they're used immediately or abandoned accidentally. In theory, the stack should always be empty outside of a call to when or verify, but Mockito can't check that automatically. You can check manually with Mockito.validateMockitoUsage().

  • In a call to when, Mockito actually calls the method in question, which will throw an exception if you've stubbed the method to throw an exception (or require non-zero or non-null values). doReturn and doAnswer (etc) do not invoke the actual method and are often a useful alternative.

  • If you had called a mock method in the middle of stubbing (e.g. to calculate an answer for an eq matcher), Mockito would check the stack length against that call instead, and likely fail.

  • If you try to do something bad, like stubbing/verifying a final method, Mockito will call the real method and also leave extra matchers on the stack. The final method call may not throw an exception, but you may get an InvalidUseOfMatchersException from the stray matchers when you next interact with a mock.

Common problems

  • InvalidUseOfMatchersException:

    • Check that every single argument has exactly one matcher call, if you use matchers at all, and that you haven't used a matcher outside of a when or verify call. Matchers should never be used as stubbed return values or fields/variables.

    • Check that you're not calling a mock as a part of providing a matcher argument.

    • Check that you're not trying to stub/verify a final method with a matcher. It's a great way to leave a matcher on the stack, and unless your final method throws an exception, this might be the only time you realize the method you're mocking is final.

  • NullPointerException with primitive arguments: (Integer) any() returns null while any(Integer.class) returns 0; this can cause a NullPointerException if you're expecting an int instead of an Integer. In any case, prefer anyInt(), which will return zero and also skip the auto-boxing step.

  • NullPointerException or other exceptions: Calls to when(foo.bar(any())).thenReturn(baz) will actually call foo.bar(null), which you might have stubbed to throw an exception when receiving a null argument. Switching to doReturn(baz).when(foo).bar(any()) skips the stubbed behavior.

General troubleshooting

  • Use MockitoJUnitRunner, or explicitly call validateMockitoUsage in your tearDown or @After method (which the runner would do for you automatically). This will help determine whether you've misused matchers.

  • For debugging purposes, add calls to validateMockitoUsage in your code directly. This will throw if you have anything on the stack, which is a good warning of a bad symptom.

Running Git through Cygwin from Windows

I confirm that git and msysgit can coexist on the same computer, as mentioned in "Which GIT version to use cygwin or msysGit or both?".

  1. Git for Windows (msysgit) will run in its own shell (dos with git-cmd.bat or bash with Git Bash.vbs)
    Update 2016: msysgit is obsolete, and the new Git for Windows now uses msys2

How can I have two fixed width columns with one flexible column in the center?

Despite setting up dimensions for the columns, they still seem to shrink as the window shrinks.

An initial setting of a flex container is flex-shrink: 1. That's why your columns are shrinking.

It doesn't matter what width you specify (it could be width: 10000px), with flex-shrink the specified width can be ignored and flex items are prevented from overflowing the container.

You will need to disable shrinking. Here are some options:

I would recommend separating out all of the foreign-key constraints from your CREATE TABLE statements. Create all the tables first without FK constraints, and then create all the FK constraints once you have created the tables.

You can add an FK constraint to a table using SQL like the following:

  FOREIGN KEY (m_p_unique_id) REFERENCES library (m_p_unique_id);

In particular, your formats and library tables both have foreign-key constraints on one another. The two CREATE TABLE statements to create these two tables can never run successfully, as each will only work when the other table has already been created.

Separating out the constraint creation allows you to create tables with FK constraints on one another. Also, if you have an error with a constraint, only that constraint fails to be created. At present, because you have errors in the constraints in your CREATE TABLE statements, then entire table creation fails and you get various knock-on errors because FK constraints may depend on these tables that failed to create.

Escape double quote in grep

The problem is that you aren't correctly escaping the input string, try:

Alternatively, you can use unescaped double quotes within single quotes:
