How to set a maximum execution time for a mysql query?

pt_kill has an option for such. But it is on-demand, not continually monitoring. It does what @Rafa suggested. However see --sentinel for a hint of how to come close with cron.

Getting the class name from a static method in Java

I use this to init the Log4j Logger at the top of my classes (or annotate).

PRO: Throwable is already loaded and you might save resources by not using the "IO heavy" SecurityManager.

CON: Some question as to whether this will work for all JVMs.

// Log4j . Logger --- Get class name in static context by creating an anonymous Throwable and
// getting the top of its stack-trace.
// NOTE you must use: getClassName() because getClass() just returns StackTraceElement.class
static final Logger logger = Logger.getLogger(new Throwable() .getStackTrace()[0].getClassName());

What is an idiomatic way of representing enums in Go?

For a use case like this, it may be useful to use a string constant so it can be marshaled into a JSON string. In the following example, []Base{A,C,G,T} would get marshaled to ["adenine","cytosine","guanine","thymine"].

type Base string

const (
    A Base = "adenine"
    C      = "cytosine"
    G      = "guanine"
    T      = "thymine"
)

When using iota, the values get marshaled into integers. In the following example, []Base{A,C,G,T} would get marshaled to [0,1,2,3].

type Base int

const (
    A Base = iota
    C
    G
    T
)

Here's an example comparing both approaches:

Convert output of MySQL query to utf8

Addition:

When using the MySQL client library, then you should prevent a conversion back to your connection's default charset. (see mysql_set_character_set()[1])

In this case, use an additional cast to binary:

SELECT column1, CAST(CONVERT(column2 USING utf8) AS binary)
FROM my_table
WHERE my_condition;

Otherwise, the SELECT statement converts to utf-8, but your client library converts it back to a (potentially different) default connection charset.

pandas GroupBy columns with NaN (missing) values

One small point to Andy Hayden's solution – it doesn't work (anymore?) because np.nan == np.nan yields False, so the replace function doesn't actually do anything.

What worked for me was this:

df['b'] = df['b'].apply(lambda x: x if not np.isnan(x) else -1)

(At least that's the behavior for Pandas 0.19.2. Sorry to add it as a different answer, I do not have enough reputation to comment.)

How to find MAC address of an Android device programmatically

                    if (macBytes == null) {
                        return "";

                    for (byte b : macBytes) {
                        // res1.append(Integer.toHexString(b & 0xFF) + ":");
                        res1.append(String.format("%02X:",b));
                    }

                    if (res1.length() > 0) {
                        res1.deleteCharAt(res1.length() - 1);
                    }
                    return res1.toString();
                }
            } catch (Exception ex) {
                //handle exception
            }
            return "";
        }
    }

UPDATE 1

This answer got a bug where a byte that in hex form got a single digit, will not appear with a "0" before it. The append to res1 has been changed to take care of it.

 StringBuilder res1 = new StringBuilder();
                for (byte b : macBytes) {
                    // res1.append(Integer.toHexString(b & 0xFF) + ":");
                    res1.append(String.format("%02X:",b));
                }

What is Hash and Range Primary Key?

As the whole thing is mixing up let's look at it function and code to simulate what it means consicely

The only way to get a row is via primary key

getRow(pk: PrimaryKey): Row

Primary key data structure can be this:

// If you decide your primary key is just the partition key.
class PrimaryKey(partitionKey: String)

// and in thids case
getRow(somePartitionKey): Row

However you can decide your primary key is partition key + sort key in this case:

// if you decide your primary key is partition key + sort key
class PrimaryKey(partitionKey: String, sortKey: String)

getRow(partitionKey, sortKey): Row
getMultipleRows(partitionKey): Row[]

So the bottom line:

  1. Decided that your primary key is partition key only? get single row by partition key.

  2. Decided that your primary key is partition key + sort key? 2.1 Get single row by (partition key, sort key) or get range of rows by (partition key)

In either way you get a single row by primary key the only question is if you defined that primary key to be partition key only or partition key + sort key

Building blocks are:

  1. Table
  2. Item
  3. KV Attribute.

Think of Item as a row and of KV Attribute as cells in that row.

  1. You can get an item (a row) by primary key.
  2. You can get multiple items (multiple rows) by specifying (HashKey, RangeKeyQuery)

You can do (2) only if you decided that your PK is composed of (HashKey, SortKey).

More visually as its complex, the way I see it:

+----------------------------------------------------------------------------------+
|Table                                                                             |
|+------------------------------------------------------------------------------+  |
||Item                                                                          |  |
||+-----------+ +-----------+ +-----------+ +-----------+                       |  |
|||primaryKey | |kv attr    | |kv attr ...| |kv attr ...|                       |  |
||+-----------+ +-----------+ +-----------+ +-----------+                       |  |
|+------------------------------------------------------------------------------+  |
|+------------------------------------------------------------------------------+  |
||Item                                                                          |  |
||+-----------+ +-----------+ +-----------+ +-----------+ +-----------+         |  |
|||primaryKey | |kv attr    | |kv attr ...| |kv attr ...| |kv attr ...|         |  |
||+-----------+ +-----------+ +-----------+ +-----------+ +-----------+         |  |
|+------------------------------------------------------------------------------+  |
|                                                                                  |
+----------------------------------------------------------------------------------+

+----------------------------------------------------------------------------------+
|1. Always get item by PrimaryKey |
|2. PK is (Hash,RangeKey), great get MULTIPLE Items by Hash, filter/sort by range |
|3. PK is HashKey: just get a SINGLE ITEM by hashKey |
|                                                      +--------------------------+|
|                                 +---------------+    |getByPK => getBy(1        ||
|                 +-----------+ +>|(HashKey,Range)|--->|hashKey, > < or startWith ||
|              +->|Composite  |-+ +---------------+    |of rangeKeys)             ||
|              |  +-----------+                        +--------------------------+|
|+-----------+ |                                                                   |
||PrimaryKey |-+                                                                   |
|+-----------+ |                                       +--------------------------+|
|              |  +-----------+   +---------------+    |getByPK => get by specific||
|              +->|HashType   |-->|get one item   |--->|hashKey                   ||
|                 +-----------+   +---------------+    |                          ||
|                                                      +--------------------------+|
+----------------------------------------------------------------------------------+

So what is happening above. Notice the following observations. As we said our data belongs to (Table, Item, KVAttribute). Then Every Item has a primary key. Now the way you compose that primary key is meaningful into how you can access the data.

If you decide that your PrimaryKey is simply a hash key then great you can get a single item out of it. If you decide however that your primary key is hashKey + SortKey then you could also do a range query on your primary key because you will get your items by (HashKey + SomeRangeFunction(on range key)). So you can get multiple items with your primary key query.

Note: I did not refer to secondary indexes.

Fade In on Scroll Down, Fade Out on Scroll Up - based on element position in window

I tweaked your code a bit and made it more robust. In terms of progressive enhancement it's probaly better to have all the fade-in-out logic in JavaScript. In the example of myfunksyde any user without JavaScript sees nothing because of the opacity: 0;.

    $(window).on("load",function() {
    function fade() {
        var animation_height = $(window).innerHeight() * 0.25;
        var ratio = Math.round( (1 / animation_height) * 10000 ) / 10000;

        $('.fade').each(function() {

            var objectTop = $(this).offset().top;
            var windowBottom = $(window).scrollTop() + $(window).innerHeight();

            if ( objectTop < windowBottom ) {
                if ( objectTop < windowBottom - animation_height ) {
                    $(this).html( 'fully visible' );
                    $(this).css( {
                        transition: 'opacity 0.1s linear',
                        opacity: 1
                    } );

                } else {
                    $(this).html( 'fading in/out' );
                    $(this).css( {
                        transition: 'opacity 0.25s linear',
                        opacity: (windowBottom - objectTop) * ratio
                    } );
                }
            } else {
                $(this).html( 'not visible' );
                $(this).css( 'opacity', 0 );
            }
        });
    }
    $('.fade').css( 'opacity', 0 );
    fade();
    $(window).scroll(function() {fade();});
});

Sleeping in a batch file

The best solution that should work on all Windows versions after Windows 2000 would be:

timeout numbersofseconds /nobreak > nul

How to uninstall / completely remove Oracle 11g (client)?

There are some more actions you should consider:

  • Remove Registry Entries for MS Distributed Transaction Coordinator (MSDTC)

    Note: on the Internet I found this step only at a single (private) page. I don't know if it is required/working or if it breaks anything on your PC.

    • Open Regedit
    • Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\MSDTC\MTxOCI
    • Add an x before each string for OracleOciLib, OracleSqlLib, and OracleXaLib
    • Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\MSDTC\MTxOCI
    • Add an x before each string for OracleOciLib, OracleSqlLib, and OracleXaLib

    Otherwise these files, if they exist, will still be in use next time you reboot, and unable to be deleted.

  • Remove environment variable ORACLE_HOME, ORACLE_BASE, TNS_ADMIN, NLS_LANG if exist

    Check also Oracle doc to find all Oracle related environment variables, however apart from variables listed above they are very rarely used on Windows Client: Oracle Environment Variables

  • Unregister oci.dll

    • Open a command line window (Start Menu -> Run... -> cmd)
    • Enter regsvr32 /u oci.dll, resp. %windir%\SysWOW64\regsvr32 /u oci.dll

    • In some cases the file %ORACLE_HOME%\bin\oci.dll is locked and you cannot delete it. In such case rename the file (e.g. to oci.dll.x) and reboot the PC, afterwards you can delete it.

  • Remove Oracle .NET assemblies from Global Assembly Cache (GAC). You do this typically with the gacutil utility, if available on your system. Would be like this:

    gacutil /u Policy.10.1.Oracle.DataAccess
    gacutil /u Policy.10.2.Oracle.DataAccess
    gacutil /u Policy.1.102.Oracle.DataAccess
    gacutil /u Policy.1.111.Oracle.DataAccess

    gacutil /u Policy.2.102.Oracle.DataAccess
    gacutil /u Policy.2.111.Oracle.DataAccess
    gacutil /u Policy.2.112.Oracle.DataAccess
    gacutil /u Policy.2.121.Oracle.DataAccess
    gacutil /u Policy.2.122.Oracle.DataAccess

    gacutil /u Policy.4.112.Oracle.DataAccess
    gacutil /u Policy.4.121.Oracle.DataAccess
    gacutil /u Policy.4.122.Oracle.DataAccess

    gacutil /u Oracle.DataAccess
    gacutil /u Oracle.DataAccess.resources

    gacutil /u Policy.4.121.Oracle.ManagedDataAccess
    gacutil /u Policy.4.122.Oracle.ManagedDataAccess
    gacutil /u Oracle.ManagedDataAccess
    gacutil /u Oracle.ManagedDataAccess.resources
    gacutil /u Oracle.ManagedDataAccessDTC
    gacutil /u Oracle.ManagedDataAccessIOP
    gacutil /u Oracle.ManagedDataAccess.EntityFramework

    • Entry System.Data.OracleClient should not be removed, this one is installed by Microsoft - not an Oracle component!

    • Instead of gacutil /u ... you can also use OraProvCfg /action:ungac /providerpath:... if OraProvCfg is still available on your system. You may find it at %ORACLE_HOME%\odp.net\managed\x64\OraProvCfg.exe.

  • With a text editor, open XML Config file %SYSTEMROOT%\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0.30319\Config\machine.config and delete branch <oracle.manageddataaccess.client>, if existing.

    • Do the same with:

      %SYSTEMROOT%\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0.30319\Config\machine.config
      %SYSTEMROOT%\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\Config\machine.config
      %SYSTEMROOT%\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0.30319\Config\web.config
      %SYSTEMROOT%\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\Config\web.config

    Instead of editing the XML Config file manually you can also run (if OraProvCfg.exe is still available on your system):

    %ORACLE_HOME%\odp.net\managed\x64\OraProvCfg.exe /action:unconfig /product:odpm /frameworkversion:v4.0.30319
    %ORACLE_HOME%\odp.net\managed\x86\OraProvCfg.exe /action:unconfig /product:odpm /frameworkversion:v4.0.30319
    %ORACLE_HOME%\odp.net\managed\x64\OraProvCfg.exe /action:unconfig /product:odp /frameworkversion:v4.0.30319
    %ORACLE_HOME%\odp.net\managed\x86\OraProvCfg.exe /action:unconfig /product:odp /frameworkversion:v4.0.30319

  • Check following Registry Keys and delete them if existing

    HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\.NETFramework\v2.0.50727\AssemblyFoldersEx\ODP.Net

Error message "No exports were found that match the constraint contract name"

I got an error with the same error message - two years later. It's a different problem this time though, related to .NET Core dnx things.

I couldn't find an answer on Stack Overflow, but there's a GitHub issue that contains a workaround: https://github.com/aspnet/Home/issues/1455

Below is the most important part of the workaround:

  • Delete the entire C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 14.0\Common7\IDE\Extensions\Microsoft\Web Tools\DNX directory. (As far as I understand, it belongs to the old version of ASP.NET Core RC1, which for some reason is still shipped even with Visual Studio 2015 Update-3).
  • Delete the C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\VisualStudio\14.0\devenv.exe.config file.
  • Run the Developer Command Prompt for Visual Studio 2015 as Administrator, and execute the devenv /setup command. The new devenv.exe.config file is generated. This time there are many assemblies that refer to the C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 14.0\Common7\IDE\Extensions\Microsoft\DotNet directory.
  • Run the Visual Studio 2015 and check that it shows the Microsoft .NET Core Tools (Preview 2) 14.1.20624.0 in the Help => About Microsoft Visual Studio menu.

Thanks to olegburov's post on GitHub for figuring this out.

How to make an Android Spinner with initial text "Select One"?

Refer to one of the above answers: https://stackoverflow.com/a/23005376/1312796

I added my code to fix a little bug. That where no data retrieved..How to show the prompt text..!

Here is my Trick...It works fine with me. !

Try to put your spinner in a Relative_layoutand align a Textview with your spinner and play with the visibility of the Textview (SHOW/HIDE) whenever the adapter of the spinner loaded or empty..Like this:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:layout_marginLeft="10dp"
android:layout_marginRight="10dp"
android:layout_marginTop="20dp"
android:background="#ededed"
android:orientation="vertical">

    <TextView
        android:id="@+id/txt_prompt_from"
        android:layout_width="wrap_content"
        android:layout_height="wrap_content"
        android:layout_centerVertical="true"
        android:textColor="@color/gray"
        android:textSize="16sp"
        android:layout_alignStart="@+id/sp_from"
        android:text="From"
        android:visibility="gone"/>

    <Spinner
        android:id="@+id/sp_from"
        android:layout_width="match_parent"
        android:layout_height="wrap_content"
        android:layout_centerVertical="true"
        />

Here is the code:

  txt__from = (TextView) rootView.findViewById(R.id.txt_prompt_from);

call this method after and before spinner adapter loaded and empty.

setPromptTextViewVisibility (); //True or fales

public void setPromptTextViewVisibility (boolean visible )
{
    if (visible)
    {
        txt_from.setVisibility(View.VISIBLE);
    }
    else
    {
        txt_from.setVisibility(View.INVISIBLE);
    }

}

ArrayAdapter in android to create simple listview

public ArrayAdapter (Context context, int resource, int textViewResourceId, T[] objects)

I am also new to Android , so i might be wrong. But as per my understanding while using this for listview creation 2nd argument is the layout of list items. A layout consists of many views (image view,text view etc). With 3rd argument you are specifying in which view or textview you want the text to be displayed.

How do I URl encode something in Node.js?

encodeURIComponent(string) will do it:

encodeURIComponent("Robert'); DROP TABLE Students;--")
//>> "Robert')%3B%20DROP%20TABLE%20Students%3B--"

Passing SQL around in a query string might not be a good plan though,

import android.webkit.SslErrorHandler;
import android.net.http.SslError;

Code:

PowerMockito mock single static method and return object

What you want to do is a combination of part of 1 and all of 2.

You need to use the PowerMockito.mockStatic to enable static mocking for all static methods of a class. This means make it possible to stub them using the when-thenReturn syntax.

But the 2-argument overload of mockStatic you are using supplies a default strategy for what Mockito/PowerMock should do when you call a method you haven't explicitly stubbed on the mock instance.

From the javadoc:

Creates class mock with a specified strategy for its answers to interactions. It's quite advanced feature and typically you don't need it to write decent tests. However it can be helpful when working with legacy systems. It is the default answer so it will be used only when you don't stub the method call.

The default default stubbing strategy is to just return null, 0 or false for object, number and boolean valued methods. By using the 2-arg overload, you're saying "No, no, no, by default use this Answer subclass' answer method to get a default value. It returns a Long, so if you have static methods which return something incompatible with Long, there is a problem.

Instead, use the 1-arg version of mockStatic to enable stubbing of static methods, then use when-thenReturn to specify what to do for a particular method. For example:

import static org.mockito.Mockito.*;

import org.junit.Test;
import org.junit.runner.RunWith;
import org.mockito.invocation.InvocationOnMock;
import org.mockito.stubbing.Answer;
import org.powermock.api.mockito.PowerMockito;
import org.powermock.core.classloader.annotations.PrepareForTest;
import org.powermock.modules.junit4.PowerMockRunner;

class ClassWithStatics {
  public static String getString() {
    return "String";
  }

  public static int getInt() {
    return 1;
  }
}

@RunWith(PowerMockRunner.class)
@PrepareForTest(ClassWithStatics.class)
public class StubJustOneStatic {
  @Test
  public void test() {
    PowerMockito.mockStatic(ClassWithStatics.class);

    when(ClassWithStatics.getString()).thenReturn("Hello!");

    System.out.println("String: " + ClassWithStatics.getString());
    System.out.println("Int: " + ClassWithStatics.getInt());
  }
}

The String-valued static method is stubbed to return "Hello!", while the int-valued static method uses the default stubbing, returning 0.

How to get the employees with their managers

Perhaps your subquery (SELECT ename FROM EMP WHERE empno = mgr) thinks, give me the employee records that are their own managers! (i.e., where the empno of a row is the same as the mgr of the same row.)

have you considered perhaps rewriting this to use an inner (self) join? (I'm asking, becuase i'm not even sure if the following will work or not.)

SELECT t1.ename, t1.empno, t2.ename as MANAGER, t1.mgr
from emp as t1
inner join emp t2 ON t1.mgr = t2.empno
order by t1.empno;

How to convert a string of bytes into an int?

As mentioned above using unpack function of struct is a good way. If you want to implement your own function there is an another solution:

def bytes_to_int(bytes):
    result = 0
    for b in bytes:
        result = result * 256 + int(b)
return result

Jquery Ajax Posting json to webservice

You mentioned using json2.js to stringify your data, but the POSTed data appears to be URLEncoded JSON You may have already seen it, but this post about the invalid JSON primitive covers why the JSON is being URLEncoded.

I'd advise against passing a raw, manually-serialized JSON string into your method. ASP.NET is going to automatically JSON deserialize the request's POST data, so if you're manually serializing and sending a JSON string to ASP.NET, you'll actually end up having to JSON serialize your JSON serialized string.

I'd suggest something more along these lines:

var markers = [{ "position": "128.3657142857143", "markerPosition": "7" },
               { "position": "235.1944023323615", "markerPosition": "19" },
               { "position": "42.5978231292517", "markerPosition": "-3" }];

$.ajax({
    type: "POST",
    url: "/webservices/PodcastService.asmx/CreateMarkers",
    // The key needs to match your method's input parameter (case-sensitive).
    data: JSON.stringify({ Markers: markers }),
    contentType: "application/json; charset=utf-8",
    dataType: "json",
    success: function(data){alert(data);},
    error: function(errMsg) {
        alert(errMsg);
    }
});

The key to avoiding the invalid JSON primitive issue is to pass jQuery a JSON string for the data parameter, not a JavaScript object, so that jQuery doesn't attempt to URLEncode your data.

On the server-side, match your method's input parameters to the shape of the data you're passing in:

public class Marker
{
  public decimal position { get; set; }
  public int markerPosition { get; set; }
}

[WebMethod]
public string CreateMarkers(List<Marker> Markers)
{
  return "Received " + Markers.Count + " markers.";
}

You can also accept an array, like Marker[] Markers, if you prefer. The deserializer that ASMX ScriptServices uses (JavaScriptSerializer) is pretty flexible, and will do what it can to convert your input data into the server-side type you specify.

Convert cells(1,1) into "A1" and vice versa

The Address property of a cell can get this for you:

MsgBox Cells(1, 1).Address(RowAbsolute:=False, ColumnAbsolute:=False)

returns A1.

The other way around can be done with the Row and Column property of Range:

MsgBox Range("A1").Row & ", " & Range("A1").Column

returns 1,1.

How to remove MySQL root password

You need to set the password for root@localhost to be blank. There are two ways:

  1. The MySQL SET PASSWORD command:

    SET PASSWORD FOR root@localhost=PASSWORD('');

  2. Using the command-line mysqladmin tool:

    mysqladmin -u root -pType_in_your_current_password_here password ''

How to read input with multiple lines in Java

Use BufferedReader, you can make it read from standard input like this:

BufferedReader stdin = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(System.in));
String line;

while ((line = stdin.readLine()) != null && line.length()!= 0) {
    String[] input = line.split(" ");
    if (input.length == 2) {
        System.out.println(calculateAnswer(input[0], input[1]));
    }
}

Many answer above are correct but same time convoluted with other aspects of authN/authZ. What actually resolves the exception in question is this line:

services.AddScheme<YourAuthenticationOptions, YourAuthenticationHandler>(YourAuthenticationSchemeName, options =>
    {
        options.YourProperty = yourValue;

What are good ways to prevent SQL injection?

SQL injection can be a tricky problem but there are ways around it. Your risk is reduced your risk simply by using an ORM like Linq2Entities, Linq2SQL, NHibrenate. However you can have SQL injection problems even with them.

The main thing with SQL injection is user controlled input (as is with XSS). In the most simple example if you have a login form (I hope you never have one that just does this) that takes a username and password.

SELECT * FROM Users WHERE Username = '" + username + "' AND password = '" + password + "'"

If a user were to input the following for the username Admin' -- the SQL Statement would look like this when executing against the database.

SELECT * FROM Users WHERE Username = 'Admin' --' AND password = ''

In this simple case using a paramaterized query (which is what an ORM does) would remove your risk. You also have a the issue of a lesser known SQL injection attack vector and that's with stored procedures. In this case even if you use a paramaterized query or an ORM you would still have a SQL injection problem. Stored procedures can contain execute commands, and those commands themselves may be suceptable to SQL injection attacks.

CREATE PROCEDURE SP_GetLogin @username varchar(100), @password varchar(100) AS
DECLARE @sql nvarchar(4000)
SELECT @sql = ' SELECT * FROM users' +
              ' FROM Product Where username = ''' + @username + ''' AND password = '''+@password+''''

EXECUTE sp_executesql @sql

So this example would have the same SQL injection problem as the previous one even if you use paramaterized queries or an ORM. And although the example seems silly you'd be surprised as to how often something like this is written.

My recommendations would be to use an ORM to immediately reduce your chances of having a SQL injection problem, and then learn to spot code and stored procedures which can have the problem and work to fix them. I don't recommend using ADO.NET (SqlClient, SqlCommand etc...) directly unless you have to, not because it's somehow not safe to use it with parameters but because it's that much easier to get lazy and just start writing a SQL query using strings and just ignoring the parameters. ORMS do a great job of forcing you to use parameters because it's just what they do.

Next Visit the OWASP site on SQL injection https://www.owasp.org/index.php/SQL_Injection and use the SQL injection cheat sheet to make sure you can spot and take out any issues that will arise in your code. https://www.owasp.org/index.php/SQL_Injection_Prevention_Cheat_Sheet finally I would say put in place a good code review between you and other developers at your company where you can review each others code for things like SQL injection and XSS. A lot of times programmers miss this stuff because they're trying to rush out some feature and don't spend too much time on reviewing their code.

How correctly produce JSON by RESTful web service?

You could use a package like org.json http://www.json.org/java/

Because you will need to use JSONObjects more often.

There you can easily create JSONObjects and put some values in it:

 JSONObject json = new JSONObject();
 JSONArray array=new JSONArray();
    array.put("1");
    array.put("2");
    json.put("friends", array);

    System.out.println(json.toString(2));

    {"friends": [
      "1",
      "2"
    ]}

edit This has the advantage that you can build your responses in different layers and return them as an object

Are members of a C++ struct initialized to 0 by default?

In general, no. However, a struct declared as file-scope or static in a function /will/ be initialized to 0 (just like all other variables of those scopes):

int x; // 0
int y = 42; // 42
struct { int a, b; } foo; // 0, 0

void foo() {
  struct { int a, b; } bar; // undefined
  static struct { int c, d; } quux; // 0, 0
}

Why calling react setState method doesn't mutate the state immediately?

Simply putting - this.setState({data: value}) is asynchronous in nature that means it moves out of the Call Stack and only comes back to the Call Stack unless it is resolved.

Please read about Event Loop to have a clear picture about Asynchronous nature in JS and why it takes time to update -

https://medium.com/front-end-weekly/javascript-event-loop-explained-4cd26af121d4

Hence -

    this.setState({data:value});
    console.log(this.state.data); // will give undefined or unupdated value

as it takes time to update. To achieve the above process -

    this.setState({data:value},function () {
     console.log(this.state.data);
    });

Using jQuery To Get Size of Viewport

You can use $(window).resize() to detect if the viewport is resized.

jQuery does not have any function to consistently detect the correctly width and height of the viewport[1] when there is a scroll bar present.

I found a solution that uses the Modernizr library and specifically the mq function which opens media queries for javascript.

Here is my solution:

// A function for detecting the viewport minimum width.
// You could use a similar function for minimum height if you wish.
var min_width;
if (Modernizr.mq('(min-width: 0px)')) {
    // Browsers that support media queries
    min_width = function (width) {
        return Modernizr.mq('(min-width: ' + width + ')');
    };
}
else {
    // Fallback for browsers that does not support media queries
    min_width = function (width) {
        return $(window).width() >= width;
    };
}

var resize = function() {
    if (min_width('768px')) {
        // Do some magic
    }
};

$(window).resize(resize);
resize();

My answer will probably not help resizing a iframe to 100% viewport width with a margin on each side, but I hope it will provide solace for webdevelopers frustrated with browser incoherence of javascript viewport width and height calculation.

Maybe this could help with regards to the iframe:

$('iframe').css('width', '100%').wrap('<div style="margin:2em"></div>');

[1] You can use $(window).width() and $(window).height() to get a number which will be correct in some browsers, but incorrect in others. In those browsers you can try to use window.innerWidth and window.innerHeight to get the correct width and height, but i would advice against this method because it would rely on user agent sniffing.

Usually the different browsers are inconsistent about whether or not they include the scrollbar as part of the window width and height.

Note: Both $(window).width() and window.innerWidth vary between operating systems using the same browser. See: https://github.com/eddiemachado/bones/issues/468#issuecomment-23626238

Finding all objects that have a given property inside a collection

With Java 8 lambda expression you can do something like

cats.stream()
    .filter( c -> c.getAge() == 3 && c.getFavoriteFood() == WHISKAS )
    .collect(Collectors.toList());

Conceptually the same as the Guava Predicate approach, but it looks much cleaner with lambda

Probably not a valid answer for OP but worth to note for people with similar need. :)

What's the difference between RANK() and DENSE_RANK() functions in oracle?

rank() : It is used to rank a record within a group of rows.

dense_rank() : The DENSE_RANK function acts like the RANK function except that it assigns consecutive ranks.

Objective C - Assign, Copy, Retain

Updated Answer for Changed Documentation

The information is now spread across several guides in the documentation. Here's a list of required reading:

The answer to this question now depends entirely on whether you're using an ARC-managed application (the modern default for new projects) or forcing manual memory management.

Assign vs. Weak - Use assign to set a property's pointer to the address of the object without retaining it or otherwise curating it; use weak to have the property point to nil automatically if the object assigned to it is deallocated. In most cases you'll want to use weak so you're not trying to access a deallocated object (illegal access of a memory address - "EXC_BAD_ACCESS") if you don't perform proper cleanup.

Retain vs. Copy - Declared properties use retain by default (so you can simply omit it altogether) and will manage the object's reference count automatically whether another object is assigned to the property or it's set to nil; Use copy to automatically send the newly-assigned object a -copy message (which will create a copy of the passed object and assign that copy to the property instead - useful (even required) in some situations where the assigned object might be modified after being set as a property of some other object (which would mean that modification/mutation would apply to the property as well).

What steps are needed to stream RTSP from FFmpeg?

FWIW, I was able to setup a local RTSP server for testing purposes using simple-rtsp-server and ffmpeg following these steps:

  1. Create a configuration file for the RTSP server called rtsp-simple-server.yml with this single line:
    protocols: [tcp]

  2. Start the RTSP server as a Docker container:
    $ docker run --rm -it -v $PWD/rtsp-simple-server.yml:/rtsp-simple-server.yml -p 8554:8554 aler9/rtsp-simple-server

  3. Use ffmpeg to stream a video file (looping forever) to the server:
    $ ffmpeg -re -stream_loop -1 -i test.mp4 -f rtsp -rtsp_transport tcp rtsp://localhost:8554/live.stream

Once you have that running you can use ffplay to view the stream:

$ ffplay -rtsp_transport tcp rtsp://localhost:8554/live.stream

Note that simple-rtsp-server can also handle UDP streams (i.s.o. TCP) but that's tricky running the server as a Docker container.

    byte[] bytes = Base64.getDecoder().decode(base64String);
    FileUtils.writeByteArrayToFile(new File(filePath), bytes);

jQuery ajax request with json response, how to?

Firstly, it will help if you set the headers of your PHP to serve JSON:

header('Content-type: application/json');

Secondly, it will help to adjust your ajax call:

$.ajax({
    url: "main.php",
    type: "POST",
    dataType: "json",
    data: {"action": "loadall", "id": id},
    success: function(data){
        console.log(data);
    },
    error: function(error){
         console.log("Error:");
         console.log(error);
    }
});

If successful, the response you receieve should be picked up as true JSON and an object should be logged to console.

NOTE: If you want to pick up pure html, you might want to consider using another method to JSON, but I personally recommend using JSON and rendering it into html using templates (such as Handlebars js).

Difference between a Structure and a Union

Is there any good example to give the difference between a 'struct' and a 'union'?

An imaginary communications protocol

struct packetheader {
   int sourceaddress;
   int destaddress;
   int messagetype;
   union request {
       char fourcc[4];
       int requestnumber;
   };
};

In this imaginary protocol, it has been sepecified that, based on the "message type", the following location in the header will either be a request number, or a four character code, but not both. In short, unions allow for the same storage location to represent more than one data type, where it is guaranteed that you will only want to store one of the types of data at any one time.

Unions are largely a low-level detail based in C's heritage as a system programming language, where "overlapping" storage locations are sometimes used in this way. You can sometimes use unions to save memory where you have a data structure where only one of several types will be saved at one time.

In general, the OS doesn't care or know about structs and unions -- they are both simply blocks of memory to it. A struct is a block of memory that stores several data objects, where those objects don't overlap. A union is a block of memory that stores several data objects, but has only storage for the largest of these, and thus can only store one of the data objects at any one time.

Difference between classification and clustering in data mining?

+Classification: you are given some new data, you have to set new label for them.

For example, a company wants to classify their prospect customers. When a new customer comes, they have to determine if this is a customer who is going to buy their products or not.

+Clustering: you're given a set of history transactions which recorded who bought what.

By using clustering techniques, you can tell the segmentation of your customers.

You just need to remove the parenthesis:

addContact(entityId, refreshContactList);

This then passes the function without executing it first.

Here is an example:

function addContact(id, refreshCallback) {
    refreshCallback();
    // You can also pass arguments if you need to
    // refreshCallback(id);
}

function refreshContactList() {
    alert('Hello World');
}

addContact(1, refreshContactList);

Python Timezone conversion

Python 3.9 adds the zoneinfo module so now only the the standard library is needed!

>>> from zoneinfo import ZoneInfo
>>> from datetime import datetime

>>> d = datetime(2020, 10, 31, 12, tzinfo=ZoneInfo('America/Los_Angeles'))
>>> d.astimezone(ZoneInfo('Europe/Berlin'))  # 12:00 in Cali will be 20:00 in Berlin
datetime.datetime(2020, 10, 31, 20, 0, tzinfo=zoneinfo.ZoneInfo(key='Europe/Berlin'))

Wikipedia list of available time zones

Some functions such as now() and utcnow() return timezone-unaware datetimes, meaning they contain no timezone information. I recommend only requesting timezone-aware values from them using the keyword tz=ZoneInfo('localtime').

If astimezone gets a timezone-unaware input, it will assume it is local time, which can lead to errors:

>>> datetime.utcnow()  # UTC -- NOT timezone-aware!!
datetime.datetime(2020, 6, 1, 22, 39, 57, 376479)
>>> datetime.now()     # Local time -- NOT timezone-aware!!
datetime.datetime(2020, 6, 2, 0, 39, 57, 376675)

>>> datetime.now(tz=ZoneInfo('localtime'))  # timezone-aware
datetime.datetime(2020, 6, 2, 0, 39, 57, 376806, tzinfo=zoneinfo.ZoneInfo(key='localtime'))
>>> datetime.now(tz=ZoneInfo('Europe/Berlin'))  # timezone-aware
datetime.datetime(2020, 6, 2, 0, 39, 57, 376937, tzinfo=zoneinfo.ZoneInfo(key='Europe/Berlin'))
>>> datetime.utcnow().astimezone(ZoneInfo('Europe/Berlin'))  # WRONG!!
datetime.datetime(2020, 6, 1, 22, 39, 57, 377562, tzinfo=zoneinfo.ZoneInfo(key='Europe/Berlin'))

Windows has no system time zone database, so here an extra package is needed:

pip install tzdata

There is a backport to allow use in Python 3.6 to 3.8:

sudo pip install backports.zoneinfo

Then:

from backports.zoneinfo import ZoneInfo

CSS checkbox input styling

With CSS 2 you can do this:

How to prevent sticky hover effects for buttons on touch devices

I could add a no-hover class ontouchend for each button, and make my CSS like >this: button:not(.no-hover):hover { background-color: blue; } but that's probably quite bad for performance, and doesn't handle >devices like the Chromebook Pixel (which has both a touchscreen and a mouse) >correctly.

This is the right starting point. Next step: apply/remove nohover class on following events (demo with jQuery)

buttonelement
 .on("touchend touchcancel",function(){$(this).addClass("nohover")})
 .on("touchstart mouseover",function({$(this).removeClass("nohover")});

Notice: If You wish to apply other classes to the buttonelement, the :not(.nohover) in the CSS won't work anymore as expected. Than You have to add instead a separate definition with default value and !important tag to overwrite hover style: .nohover{ background-color: white !important}

This should even handle devices like the Chromebook Pixel (which has both a touchscreen and a mouse) correctly! And I don't think, that this a major performance killer...

UIView Infinite 360 degree rotation animation?

My contribution with a Swift Extension from the checked solution :

Swift 4.0

extension UIView{
    func rotate() {
        let rotation : CABasicAnimation = CABasicAnimation(keyPath: "transform.rotation.z")
        rotation.toValue = NSNumber(value: Double.pi * 2)
        rotation.duration = 1
        rotation.isCumulative = true
        rotation.repeatCount = Float.greatestFiniteMagnitude
        self.layer.add(rotation, forKey: "rotationAnimation")
    }
}

Deprecated :

extension UIView{
    func rotate() {
        let rotation : CABasicAnimation = CABasicAnimation(keyPath: "transform.rotation.z")
        rotation.toValue = NSNumber(double: M_PI * 2)
        rotation.duration = 1
        rotation.cumulative = true
        rotation.repeatCount = FLT_MAX
        self.layer.addAnimation(rotation, forKey: "rotationAnimation")
    }
}

How to create a custom-shaped bitmap marker with Android map API v2

From lambda answer, I have made something closer to the requirements.

boolean imageCreated = false;

Bitmap bmp = null;
Marker currentLocationMarker;
private void doSomeCustomizationForMarker(LatLng currentLocation) {
    if (!imageCreated) {
        imageCreated = true;
        Bitmap.Config conf = Bitmap.Config.ARGB_8888;
        bmp = Bitmap.createBitmap(400, 400, conf);
        Canvas canvas1 = new Canvas(bmp);

        Paint color = new Paint();
        color.setTextSize(30);
        color.setColor(Color.WHITE);

        BitmapFactory.Options opt = new BitmapFactory.Options();
        opt.inMutable = true;

        Bitmap imageBitmap=BitmapFactory.decodeResource(getResources(),
                R.drawable.messi,opt);
        Bitmap resized = Bitmap.createScaledBitmap(imageBitmap, 320, 320, true);
        canvas1.drawBitmap(resized, 40, 40, color);

        canvas1.drawText("Le Messi", 30, 40, color);

        currentLocationMarker = mMap.addMarker(new MarkerOptions().position(currentLocation)
                .icon(BitmapDescriptorFactory.fromBitmap(bmp))
                // Specifies the anchor to be at a particular point in the marker image.
                .anchor(0.5f, 1));
    } else {
        currentLocationMarker.setPosition(currentLocation);
    }

}

How to find specified name and its value in JSON-string from Java?

Use a JSON library to parse the string and retrieve the value.

The following very basic example uses the built-in JSON parser from Android.

String jsonString = "{ \"name\" : \"John\", \"age\" : \"20\", \"address\" : \"some address\" }";
JSONObject jsonObject = new JSONObject(jsonString);
int age = jsonObject.getInt("age");

More advanced JSON libraries, such as jackson, google-gson, json-io or genson, allow you to convert JSON objects to Java objects directly.

What does appending "?v=1" to CSS and JavaScript URLs in link and script tags do?

During development / testing of new releases, the cache can be a problem because the browser, the server and even sometimes the 3G telco (if you do mobile deployment) will cache the static content (e.g. JS, CSS, HTML, img). You can overcome this by appending version number, random number or timestamp to the URL e.g: JSP: <script src="js/excel.js?time=<%=new java.util.Date()%>"></script>

In case you're running pure HTML (instead of server pages JSP, ASP, PHP) the server won't help you. In browser, links are loaded before the JS runs, therefore you have to remove the links and load them with JS.

// front end cache bust
var cacheBust = ['js/StrUtil.js', 'js/protos.common.js', 'js/conf.js', 'bootstrap_ECP/js/init.js'];
for (i=0; i < cacheBust.length; i++){
     var el = document.createElement('script');
     el.src = cacheBust[i]+"?v=" + Math.random();
     document.getElementsByTagName('head')[0].appendChild(el);
}

Can you write virtual functions / methods in Java?

From wikipedia

In Java, all non-static methods are by default "virtual functions." Only methods marked with the keyword final, which cannot be overridden, along with private methods, which are not inherited, are non-virtual.

Why does Python code use len() function instead of a length method?

Jim's answer to this question may help; I copy it here. Quoting Guido van Rossum:

First of all, I chose len(x) over x.len() for HCI reasons (def __len__() came much later). There are two intertwined reasons actually, both HCI:

(a) For some operations, prefix notation just reads better than postfix — prefix (and infix!) operations have a long tradition in mathematics which likes notations where the visuals help the mathematician thinking about a problem. Compare the easy with which we rewrite a formula like x*(a+b) into xa + xb to the clumsiness of doing the same thing using a raw OO notation.

(b) When I read code that says len(x) I know that it is asking for the length of something. This tells me two things: the result is an integer, and the argument is some kind of container. To the contrary, when I read x.len(), I have to already know that x is some kind of container implementing an interface or inheriting from a class that has a standard len(). Witness the confusion we occasionally have when a class that is not implementing a mapping has a get() or keys() method, or something that isn’t a file has a write() method.

Saying the same thing in another way, I see ‘len‘ as a built-in operation. I’d hate to lose that. /…/

Microsoft Advertising SDK doesn't deliverer ads

I only use MicrosoftAdvertising.Mobile and Microsoft.Advertising.Mobile.UI and I am served ads. The SDK should only add the DLLs not reference itself.

Note: You need to explicitly set width and height Make sure the phone dialer, and web browser capabilities are enabled

Followup note: Make sure that after you've removed the SDK DLL, that the xmlns references are not still pointing to it. The best route to take here is

  1. Remove the XAML for the ad
  2. Remove the xmlns declaration (usually at the top of the page, but sometimes will be declared in the ad itself)
  3. Remove the bad DLL (the one ending in .SDK )
  4. Do a Clean and then Build (clean out anything remaining from the DLL)
  5. Add the xmlns reference (actual reference is below)
  6. Add the ad to the page (example below)

Here is the xmlns reference:

xmlns:AdNamepace="clr-namespace:Microsoft.Advertising.Mobile.UI;assembly=Microsoft.Advertising.Mobile.UI"

Then the ad itself:

<AdNamespace:AdControl x:Name="myAd" Height="80" Width="480"                    AdUnitId="yourAdUnitIdHere" ApplicationId="yourIdHere"/>

JSF rendered multiple combined conditions

Return HTML content as a string, given URL. Javascript Function

In some websites, XMLHttpRequest may send you something like <script src="#"></srcipt>. In that case, try using a HTML document like the script under:

<html>
  <body>
    <iframe src="website.com"></iframe>
    <script src="your_JS"></script>
  </body>
</html>

Now you can use JS to get some text out of the HTML, such as getElementbyId.

But this may not work for some websites with cross-domain blocking.

Storing Objects in HTML5 localStorage

You cannot store key value without String Format.

LocalStorage only support String format for key/value.

That is why you should convert your data to string whatever it is Array or Object.

To Store data in localStorage first of all stringify it using JSON.stringify() method.

var myObj = [{name:"test", time:"Date 2017-02-03T08:38:04.449Z"}];
localStorage.setItem('item', JSON.stringify(myObj));

Then when you want to retrieve data , you need to parse the String to Object again.

var getObj = JSON.parse(localStorage.getItem('item'));

Hope it helps.

Push an associative item into an array in JavaScript

JavaScript doesn't have associate arrays. You need to use Objects instead:

var obj = {};
var name = "name";
var val = 2;
obj[name] = val;
console.log(obj);?

To get value you can use now different ways:

console.log(obj.name);?
console.log(obj[name]);?
console.log(obj["name"]);?

How do you align left / right a div without using float?

Another solution could be something like following (works depending on your element's display property):

HTML:

<div class="left-align">Left</div>
<div class="right-align">Right</div>

CSS:

.left-align {
  margin-left: 0;
  margin-right: auto;
}
.right-align {
  margin-left: auto;
  margin-right: 0;
}

How do you fix a MySQL "Incorrect key file" error when you can't repair the table?

Apply proper charset and collation to database, table and columns/fields.

I creates database and table structure using sql queries from one server to another. it creates database structure as follows:

  1. database with charset of "utf8", collation of "utf8_general_ci"
  2. tables with charset of "utf8" and collation of "utf8_bin".
  3. table columns / fields have charset "utf8" and collation of "utf8_bin".

I change collation of table and column to utf8_general_ci, and it resolves the error.

Load and execution sequence of a web page?

The chosen answer looks like does not apply to modern browsers, at least on Firefox 52. What I observed is that the requests of loading resources like css, javascript are issued before HTML parser reaches the element, for example

<html>
  <head>
    <!-- prints the date before parsing and blocks HTMP parsering -->
    <script>
      console.log("start: " + (new Date()).toISOString());
      for(var i=0; i<1000000000; i++) {};
    </script>

    <script src="jquery.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
    <script src="abc.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
    <link rel="stylesheets" type="text/css" href="abc.css"></link>
    <style>h2{font-wight:bold;}</style>
    <script>
      $(document).ready(function(){
      $("#img").attr("src", "kkk.png");
     });
   </script>
 </head>
 <body>
   <img id="img" src="abc.jpg" style="width:400px;height:300px;"/>
   <script src="kkk.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
   </body>
</html>

What I found that the start time of requests to load css and javascript resources were not being blocked. Looks like Firefox has a HTML scan, and identify key resources(img resource is not included) before starting to parse the HTML.

How to append multiple items in one line in Python

Use this :

#Inputs
L1 = [1, 2]
L2 = [3,4,5]

#Code
L1+L2

#Output
[1, 2, 3, 4, 5]

By using the (+) operator you can skip the multiple append & extend operators in just one line of code and this is valid for more then two of lists by L1+L2+L3+L4.......etc.

Happy Learning...:)

Load content of a div on another page

Yes, see "Loading Page Fragments" on http://api.jquery.com/load/.

In short, you add the selector after the URL. For example:

$('#result').load('ajax/test.html #container');

Set max-height on inner div so scroll bars appear, but not on parent div

set this :

#inner-right {
    height: 100%;
    max-height: 96%;//change here
    overflow: auto;
    background: ivory;
}

this will solve your problem.

How to declare a structure in a header that is to be used by multiple files in c?

if this structure is to be used by some other file func.c how to do it?

When a type is used in a file (i.e. func.c file), it must be visible. The very worst way to do it is copy paste it in each source file needed it.

The right way is putting it in an header file, and include this header file whenever needed.

shall we open a new header file and declare the structure there and include that header in the func.c?

This is the solution I like more, because it makes the code highly modular. I would code your struct as:

#ifndef SOME_HEADER_GUARD_WITH_UNIQUE_NAME
#define SOME_HEADER_GUARD_WITH_UNIQUE_NAME

struct a
{
    int i;
    struct b
    {
        int j;
    }
};

#endif

I would put functions using this structure in the same header (the function that are "semantically" part of its "interface").

And usually, I could name the file after the structure name, and use that name again to choose the header guards defines.

If you need to declare a function using a pointer to the struct, you won't need the full struct definition. A simple forward declaration like:

struct a ;

Will be enough, and it decreases coupling.

or can we define the total structure in header file and include that in both source.c and func.c?

This is another way, easier somewhat, but less modular: Some code needing only your structure to work would still have to include all types.

In C++, this could lead to interesting complication, but this is out of topic (no C++ tag), so I won't elaborate.

then how to declare that structure as extern in both the files. ?

I fail to see the point, perhaps, but Greg Hewgill has a very good answer in his post How to declare a structure in a header that is to be used by multiple files in c?.

shall we typedef it then how?

  • If you are using C++, don't.
  • If you are using C, you should.

The reason being that C struct managing can be a pain: You have to declare the struct keyword everywhere it is used:

struct MyStruct ; /* Forward declaration */

struct MyStruct
{
   /* etc. */
} ;

void doSomething(struct MyStruct * p) /* parameter */
{
   struct MyStruct a ; /* variable */
   /* etc */
}

While a typedef will enable you to write it without the struct keyword.

struct MyStructTag ; /* Forward declaration */

typedef struct MyStructTag
{
   /* etc. */
} MyStruct ;

void doSomething(MyStruct * p) /* parameter */
{
   MyStruct a ; /* variable */
   /* etc */
}

It is important you still keep a name for the struct. Writing:

typedef struct
{
   /* etc. */
} MyStruct ;

will just create an anonymous struct with a typedef-ed name, and you won't be able to forward-declare it. So keep to the following format:

typedef struct MyStructTag
{
   /* etc. */
} MyStruct ;

Thus, you'll be able to use MyStruct everywhere you want to avoid adding the struct keyword, and still use MyStructTag when a typedef won't work (i.e. forward declaration)

Edit:

Corrected wrong assumption about C99 struct declaration, as rightfully remarked by Jonathan Leffler.

Edit 2018-06-01:

Craig Barnes reminds us in his comment that you don't need to keep separate names for the struct "tag" name and its "typedef" name, like I did above for the sake of clarity.

Indeed, the code above could well be written as:

typedef struct MyStruct
{
   /* etc. */
} MyStruct ;

IIRC, this is actually what C++ does with its simpler struct declaration, behind the scenes, to keep it compatible with C:

// C++ explicit declaration by the user
struct MyStruct
{
   /* etc. */
} ;
// C++ standard then implicitly adds the following line
typedef MyStruct MyStruct;

Back to C, I've seen both usages (separate names and same names), and none has drawbacks I know of, so using the same name makes reading simpler if you don't use C separate "namespaces" for structs and other symbols.

How to store command results in a shell variable?

The syntax to store the command output into a variable is var=$(command).

So you can directly do:

result=$(ls -l | grep -c "rahul.*patle")

And the variable $result will contain the number of matches.

Proxy Error 502 : The proxy server received an invalid response from an upstream server

The HTTP 502 "Bad Gateway" response is generated when Apache web server does not receive a valid HTTP response from the upstream server, which in this case is your Tomcat web application.

Some reasons why this might happen:

  • Tomcat may have crashed
  • The web application did not respond in time and the request from Apache timed out
  • The Tomcat threads are timing out
  • A network device is blocking the request, perhaps as some sort of connection timeout or DoS attack prevention system

If the problem is related to timeout settings, you may be able to resolve it by investigating the following:

  • ProxyTimeout directive of Apache's mod_proxy
  • Connector config of Apache Tomcat
  • Your network device's manual

How to copy multiple files in one layer using a Dockerfile?

It might be worth mentioning that you can also create a .dockerignore file, to exclude the files that you don't want to copy:

https://docs.docker.com/engine/reference/builder/#dockerignore-file

Before the docker CLI sends the context to the docker daemon, it looks for a file named .dockerignore in the root directory of the context. If this file exists, the CLI modifies the context to exclude files and directories that match patterns in it. This helps to avoid unnecessarily sending large or sensitive files and directories to the daemon and potentially adding them to images using ADD or COPY.

What is a software framework?

at the lowest level, a framework is an environment, where you are given a set of tools to work with

this tools come in the form of libraries, configuration files, etc.

this so-called "environment" provides you with the basic setup (error reportings, log files, language settings, etc)...which can be modified,extended and built upon.

People actually do not need frameworks, it's just a matter of wanting to save time, and others just a matter of personal preferences.

People will justify that with a framework, you don't have to code from scratch. But those are just people confusing libraries with frameworks.

I'm not being biased here, I am actually using a framework right now.

What is difference between Lightsail and EC2?

Lightsail VPSs are bundles of existing AWS products, offered through a significantly simplified interface. The difference is that Lightsail offers you a limited and fixed menu of options but with much greater ease of use. Other than the narrower scope of Lightsail in order to meet the requirements for simplicity and low cost, the underlying technology is the same.

The pre-defined bundles can be described:

% aws lightsail --region us-east-1 get-bundles
{
    "bundles": [
        {
            "name": "Nano",
            "power": 300,
            "price": 5.0,
            "ramSizeInGb": 0.5,
            "diskSizeInGb": 20,
            "transferPerMonthInGb": 1000,
            "cpuCount": 1,
            "instanceType": "t2.nano",
            "isActive": true,
            "bundleId": "nano_1_0"
        },
        ...
    ]
}

It's worth reading through the Amazon EC2 T2 Instances documentation, particularly the CPU Credits section which describes the base and burst performance characteristics of the underlying instances.

Importantly, since your Lightsail instances run in VPC, you still have access to the full spectrum of AWS services, e.g. S3, RDS, and so on, as you would from any EC2 instance.

How do I get the domain originating the request in express.js?

You have to retrieve it from the HOST header.

var host = req.get('host');

It is optional with HTTP 1.0, but required by 1.1. And, the app can always impose a requirement of its own.

If this is for supporting cross-origin requests, you would instead use the Origin header.

var origin = req.get('origin');

Note that some cross-origin requests require validation through a "preflight" request:

req.options('/route', function (req, res) {
    var origin = req.get('origin');
    // ...
});

If you're looking for the client's IP, you can retrieve that with:

var userIP = req.socket.remoteAddress;

Note that, if your server is behind a proxy, this will likely give you the proxy's IP. Whether you can get the user's IP depends on what info the proxy passes along. But, it'll typically be in the headers as well.

Real time data graphing on a line chart with html5

You get the data from server, update your previously available datasetand then probably use one of the freely available libraries to draw the graph (eg: http://www.rgraph.net)

Things you might want to considering : If your chart is represents a state , get only the new data with xhr , update data on client and draw .

// created object file
console.log(file);

Don't do that ! ... (but I did it anyway)

-> the console give a result similar as an Object File :

File(0) {name: "fijRKjokDhgfsKtG1527053050.jpg", lastModified: 1527053530715, lastModifiedDate: Wed May 23 2018 07:32:10 GMT+0200 (Paris, Madrid (heure d’été)), webkitRelativePath: "", size: 0, …}

size:0
type:"image/jpg"

But the size of the object is wrong ...

Why i need to do that ?

For example to retransmit an image form already uploaded, during a product update, along with additional images added during the update

Break string into list of characters in Python

Or use a fancy list comprehension, which are supposed to be "computationally more efficient", when working with very very large files/lists

fd = open(filename,'r')
chars = [c for line in fd for c in line if c is not " "]
fd.close()

Btw: The answer that was accepted does not account for the whitespaces...

Getting attributes of Enum's value

This is how I solved it without using custom helpers or extensions with .NET core 3.1.

    SURYOYE = 0,
    [Display(Name = "Oromoye means Syriacs")]
    OROMOYE = 1,
}

Create request with POST, which response codes 200 or 201 and content

I think atompub REST API is a great example of a restful service. See the snippet below from the atompub spec:

When to use virtual destructors?

Any class that is inherited publicly, polymorphic or not, should have a virtual destructor. To put another way, if it can be pointed to by a base class pointer, its base class should have a virtual destructor.

If virtual, the derived class destructor gets called, then the base class constructor. If not virtual, only the base class destructor gets called.

Switch firefox to use a different DNS than what is in the windows.host file

DNS resolving is usually done at the system level and not at the application level, so you can't normally have one program use one dns and another program use a different dns. I'm not aware of any firefox extensions that allow you to use a different dns.

LINQ query to find if items in a list are contained in another list

something like this:

List<string> test2 = new List<string> { "[email protected]", "[email protected]" };

var res = test2.Where(f => test1.Count(z => f.Contains(z)) == 0)

pip issue installing almost any library

As posted above by blackjar, the below lines worked for me

pip --trusted-host pypi.python.org --trusted-host files.pythonhosted.org --trusted-host pypi.org install xxx

You need to give all three --trusted-host options. I was trying with only the first one after looking at the answers but it didn't work for me like that.

for or while loop to do something n times

This is lighter weight than xrange (and the while loop) since it doesn't even need to create the int objects. It also works equally well in Python2 and Python3

    do_sth()

Checking if a double (or float) is NaN in C++

The following code uses the definition of NAN (all exponent bits set, at least one fractional bit set) and assumes that sizeof(int) = sizeof(float) = 4. You can look up NAN in Wikipedia for the details.

bool IsNan( float value ) { return ((*(UINT*)&value) & 0x7fffffff) > 0x7f800000; }

How to return first 5 objects of Array in Swift?

By far the neatest way to get the first N elements of a Swift array is using prefix(_ maxLength: Int):

let someArray = [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7]
let first5 = someArray.prefix(5) // 1, 2, 3, 4, 5

This has the benefit of being bounds safe. If the count you pass to prefix is larger than the array count then it just returns the whole array.

NOTE: as pointed out in the comments, Array.prefix actually returns an ArraySlice, not an Array. In most cases this shouldn't make a difference but if you need to assign the result to an Array type or pass it to a method that's expecting an Array param you will need to force the result into an Array type: let first5 = Array(someArray.prefix(5))

How to compress an image via Javascript in the browser?

Edit: As per the Mr Me comment on this answer, it looks like compression is now available for JPG/WebP formats ( see https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/API/HTMLCanvasElement/toDataURL ).

As far as I know, you cannot compress images using canvas, instead, you can resize it. Using canvas.toDataURL will not let you choose the compression ratio to use. You can take a look at canimage that does exactly what you want : https://github.com/nfroidure/CanImage/blob/master/chrome/canimage/content/canimage.js

In fact, it's often sufficient to just resize the image to decrease it's size but if you want to go further, you'll have to use newly introduced method file.readAsArrayBuffer to get a buffer containing the image data.

Then, just use a DataView to read it's content according to the image format specification (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JPEG or http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portable_Network_Graphics).

It'll be hard to deal with image data compression, but it is worse a try. On the other hand, you can try to delete the PNG headers or the JPEG exif data to make your image smaller, it should be easier to do so.

You'll have to create another DataWiew on another buffer and fill it with the filtered image content. Then, you'll just have to encode you're image content to DataURI using window.btoa.

Let me know if you implement something similar, will be interesting to go through the code.

SQL state [99999]; error code [17004]; Invalid column type: 1111 With Spring SimpleJdbcCall

We had the same issue when we had a typo in the mybatis mapping file like

        ....
        #{column1Name,          jdbcType=INTEGER},
        #{column2Name,          jdbcType=VARCHAR},
        #{column3Name,      jdbcTyep=VARCHAR}  -- do you see the typo ?
        .....

So check this kind of typos as well. Unfortunately, it can not understand the typo in compile/build time, it causes an unchecked exception and booms in runtime.

mongodb service is not starting up

Here's a weird one, make sure you have consistent spacing in the config file.

For example:

processManagement:
  timeZoneInfo: /usr/share/zoneinfo

security:
    authorization: 'enabled'

If the authorization key has 4 spaces before it, like above and the rest are 2 spaces then it won't work.

How to view the committed files you have not pushed yet?

git diff HEAD origin/master

Where origin is the remote repository and master is the default branch where you will push. Also, do a git fetch before the diff so that you are not diffing against a stale origin/master.

Apache: client denied by server configuration

Here's my symfony 1.4 virtual host file on debian, which works fine.

  <Directory /var/www/sf_project/web/>
    Options All Indexes FollowSymLinks
    AllowOverride All
    Order allow,deny
    Allow from all
  </Directory>

If you wan't to restrict access to a specific ip range, e.g. localhost use this:

Allow from 127.0.0.0/8

The mod_authz_host is responsible for filtering ip ranges. You can look up detailed things in there.

But maybe the problem could be related to some kind of misconfiguration in your "apache2.conf".

On what OS is the apache running?

Best way to remove duplicate entries from a data table

You can use the DefaultView.ToTable method of a DataTable to do the filtering like this (adapt to C#):

 Public Sub RemoveDuplicateRows(ByRef rDataTable As DataTable)
    Dim pNewDataTable As DataTable
    Dim pCurrentRowCopy As DataRow
    Dim pColumnList As New List(Of String)
    Dim pColumn As DataColumn

    'Build column list
    For Each pColumn In rDataTable.Columns
        pColumnList.Add(pColumn.ColumnName)
    Next

    'Filter by all columns
    pNewDataTable = rDataTable.DefaultView.ToTable(True, pColumnList.ToArray)

    rDataTable = rDataTable.Clone

    'Import rows into original table structure
    For Each pCurrentRowCopy In pNewDataTable.Rows
        rDataTable.ImportRow(pCurrentRowCopy)
    Next
End Sub

PHP: maximum execution time when importing .SQL data file

You're trying to import a huge dataset via a web interface.

By default PHP scripts run in the context of a web server have a maximum execution time limit because you don't want a single errant PHP script tying up the entire server and causing a denial of service.

For that reason your import is failing. PHPMyAdmin is a web application and is hitting the limit imposed by PHP.

You could try raising the limit but that limit exists for a good reason so that's not advisable. Running a script that is going to take a very long time to execute in a web server is a very bad idea.

PHPMyAdmin isn't really intended for heavy duty jobs like this, it's meant for day to day housekeeping tasks and troubleshooting.

Your best option is to use the proper tools for the job, such as the mysql commandline tools. Assuming your file is an SQL dump then you can try running the following from the commandline:

mysql -u(your user name here) -p(your password here) -h(your sql server name here) (db name here) < /path/to/your/sql/dump.sql

Or if you aren't comfortable with commandline tools then something like SQLYog (for Windows), Sequel Pro (for Mac), etc may be more suitable for running an import job

How can I exclude directories from grep -R?

Recent versions of GNU Grep (>= 2.5.2) provide:

--exclude-dir=dir

which excludes directories matching the pattern dir from recursive directory searches.

So you can do:

grep -R --exclude-dir=node_modules 'some pattern' /path/to/search

For a bit more information regarding syntax and usage see

For older GNU Greps and POSIX Grep, use find as suggested in other answers.

Or just use ack (Edit: or The Silver Searcher) and be done with it!

How can strings be concatenated?

Just a comment, as someone may find it useful - you can concatenate more than one string in one go:

Single huge .css file vs. multiple smaller specific .css files?

The advantage to a single CSS file is transfer efficiency. Each HTTP request means a HTTP header response for each file requested, and that takes bandwidth.

I serve my CSS as a PHP file with the "text/css" mime type in the HTTP header. This way I can have multiple CSS files on the server side and use PHP includes to push them into a single file when requested by the user. Every modern browser receives the .php file with the CSS code and processes it as a .css file.

How do I create and store md5 passwords in mysql

you have to reason in terms of hased password:

store the password as md5('bob123'); when bob is register to your app

$query = "INSERT INTO users (username,password) VALUES('bob','".md5('bob123')."');

then, when bob is logging-in:

$query = "SELECT * FROM users WHERE username = 'bob' AND password = '".md5('bob123')."';

obvioulsy use variables for username and password, these queries are generated by php and then you can execute them on mysql

How to change package name in flutter?

You can follow this official documentation by Google: https://developer.android.com/studio/build/application-id.html

Application ID should be changed in Build.gradle, while package name can be changed in AndroidManifest.xml.

However one should be careful changing package name.

Also while re uploading the app, one should be careful since it matches the application ID of previously uploaded app with new upload.

Native query with named parameter fails with "Not all named parameters have been set"

After many tries I found that you should use createNativeQuery And you can send parameters using # replacement

In my example

String UPDATE_lOGIN_TABLE_QUERY = "UPDATE OMFX.USER_LOGIN SET LOGOUT_TIME = SYSDATE WHERE LOGIN_ID = #loginId AND USER_ID = #userId";

Query query = em.createNativeQuery(logQuery);

            query.setParameter("userId", logDataDto.getUserId());
            query.setParameter("loginId", logDataDto.getLoginId());

            query.executeUpdate();

How to make a <div> or <a href="#"> to align center

You can use the code below:

a {
display: block;
width: 113px;
margin: auto;
}

By setting, in my case, the link to display:block, it is easier to position the link.
This works the same when you use a <div> tag/class.
You can pick any width you want.

    {
        echo (trim($array[$i]) . "<br/>");
    }

Updating version numbers of modules in a multi-module Maven project

The given answer assumes that the project in question use project inheritance in addition to module aggregation. In fact those are distinct concepts:

https://maven.apache.org/guides/introduction/introduction-to-the-pom.html#Project_Inheritance_vs_Project_Aggregation

Some projects may be an aggregation of modules, yet not have a parent-child relationship between aggregator POM and the aggregated modules. (There may be no parent-child relationship at all, or the child modules may use a separate POM altogether as the "parent".) In these situations the given answer will not work.

After much reading and experimentation, it turns out there is a way to use the Versions Maven Plugin to update not only the aggregator POM but also all aggregated modules as well; it is the processAllModules option. The following command must be done in the directory of the aggregator project:

mvn versions:set -DnewVersion=2.50.1-SNAPSHOT -DprocessAllModules

The Versions Maven Plugin will not only update the versions of all contained modules, it will also update inter-module dependencies!!!! This is a huge win and will save a lot of time and prevent all sorts of problems.

Of course don't forget to commit the changes in all modules, which you can also do with the same switch:

mvn versions:commit -DprocessAllModules

You may decide to dispense with the backup POMS altogether and do everything in one command:

mvn versions:set -DnewVersion=2.50.1-SNAPSHOT -DprocessAllModules -DgenerateBackupPoms=false

How to maximize a plt.show() window using Python

I am on a Windows (WIN7), running Python 2.7.5 & Matplotlib 1.3.1.

I was able to maximize Figure windows for TkAgg, QT4Agg, and wxAgg using the following lines:

from matplotlib import pyplot as plt

### for 'TkAgg' backend
plt.figure(1)
plt.switch_backend('TkAgg') #TkAgg (instead Qt4Agg)
print '#1 Backend:',plt.get_backend()
plt.plot([1,2,6,4])
mng = plt.get_current_fig_manager()
### works on Ubuntu??? >> did NOT working on windows
# mng.resize(*mng.window.maxsize())
mng.window.state('zoomed') #works fine on Windows!
plt.show() #close the figure to run the next section

### for 'wxAgg' backend
plt.figure(2)
plt.switch_backend('wxAgg')
print '#2 Backend:',plt.get_backend()
plt.plot([1,2,6,4])
mng = plt.get_current_fig_manager()
mng.frame.Maximize(True)
plt.show() #close the figure to run the next section

### for 'Qt4Agg' backend
plt.figure(3)
plt.switch_backend('QT4Agg') #default on my system
print '#3 Backend:',plt.get_backend()
plt.plot([1,2,6,4])
figManager = plt.get_current_fig_manager()
figManager.window.showMaximized()
plt.show()

if you want to maximize multiple figures you can use

for fig in figs:
    mng = fig.canvas.manager
    # ...

Hope this summary of the previous answers (and some additions) combined in a working example (at least for windows) helps. Cheers

jQuery .live() vs .on() method for adding a click event after loading dynamic html

Try this:

$('#parent').on('click', '#child', function() {
    // Code
});

From the $.on() documentation:

Event handlers are bound only to the currently selected elements; they must exist on the page at the time your code makes the call to .on().

Your #child element doesn't exist when you call $.on() on it, so the event isn't bound (unlike $.live()). #parent, however, does exist, so binding the event to that is fine.

The second argument in my code above acts as a 'filter' to only trigger if the event bubbled up to #parent from #child.

Resetting a form in Angular 2 after submit

I used in similar case the answer from Günter Zöchbauer, and it was perfect to me, moving the form creation to a function and calling it from ngOnInit().

For illustration, that's how I made it, including the fields initialization:

ngOnInit() {
    // initializing the form model here
    this.createForm();
}

createForm() {
    let EMAIL_REGEXP = /^[^@]+@([^@\.]+\.)+[^@\.]+$/i; // here just to add something more, useful too

    this.userForm = new FormGroup({
        name: new FormControl('', [Validators.required, Validators.minLength(3)]),
        city: new FormControl(''),
        email: new FormControl(null, Validators.pattern(EMAIL_REGEXP))
    });

    this.initializeFormValues();
}

initializeFormValues() {
    const people = {
        name: '',
        city: 'Rio de Janeiro', // Only for demonstration
        email: ''
    };
    (<FormGroup>this.userForm).setValue(people, { onlySelf: true });
}

resetForm() {
    this.createForm();
    this.submitted = false;
}

I added a button to the form for a smart reset (with the fields initialization):

In the HTML file (or inline template):

<button type="button" [disabled]="userForm.pristine" (click)="resetForm()">Reset</button>

After loading the form at first time or after clicking the reset button we have the following status:

FORM pristine: true
FORM valid: false (because I have required a field)
FORM submitted: false
Name pristine: true
City pristine: true
Email pristine: true

And all the field initializations that a simple form.reset() doesn't make for us! :-)

Difference of two date time in sql server

I can mention four important functions of MS SQL Server that can be very useful:

1) The function DATEDIFF() is responsible to calculate differences between two dates, the result could be "year quarter month dayofyear day week hour minute second millisecond microsecond nanosecond", specified on the first parameter (datepart):

select datediff(day,'1997-10-07','2011-09-11')

2) You can use the function GETDATE() to get the actual time and calculate differences of some date and actual date:

select datediff(day,'1997-10-07', getdate() )

3) Another important function is DATEADD(), used to convert some value in datetime using the same datepart of the datediff, that you can add (with positive values) or substract (with negative values) to one base date:

select DATEADD(day, 45, getdate()) -- actual datetime adding 45 days
select DATEADD( s,-638, getdate()) -- actual datetime subtracting 10 minutes and 38 seconds

4) The function CONVERT() was made to format the date like you need, it is not parametric function, but you can use part of the result to format the result like you need:

select convert(  char(8), getdate() ,   8) -- part hh:mm:ss of actual datetime
select convert( varchar, getdate() , 112) -- yyyymmdd
select convert( char(10), getdate() ,  20) -- yyyy-mm-dd limited by 10 characters

DATETIME cold be calculated in seconds and one interesting result mixing these four function is to show a formated difference um hours, minutes and seconds (hh:mm:ss) between two dates:

declare  @date1 datetime, @date2 datetime
set @date1=DATEADD(s,-638,getdate())
set @date2=GETDATE()

select convert(char(8),dateadd(s,datediff(s,@date1,@date2),'1900-1-1'),8)

... the result is 00:10:38 (638s = 600s + 38s = 10 minutes and 38 seconds)

Another example:

select distinct convert(char(8),dateadd(s,datediff(s, CRDATE , GETDATE() ),'1900-1-1'),8) from sysobjects order by 1

Using .otf fonts on web browsers

You can implement your OTF font using @font-face like:

@font-face {
    font-family: GraublauWeb;
    src: url("path/GraublauWeb.otf") format("opentype");
}

@font-face {
    font-family: GraublauWeb;
    font-weight: bold;
    src: url("path/GraublauWebBold.otf") format("opentype");
}

// Edit: OTF now works in most browsers, see comments

However if you want to support a wide variety of browsers i would recommend you to switch to WOFF and TTF font types. WOFF type is implemented by every major desktop browser, while the TTF type is a fallback for older Safari, Android and iOS browsers. If your font is a free font, you could convert your font using for example a transfonter.

@font-face {
    font-family: GraublauWeb;
    src: url("path/GraublauWebBold.woff") format("woff"), url("path/GraublauWebBold.ttf")  format("truetype");
}

If you want to support nearly every browser that is still out there (not necessary anymore IMHO), you should add some more font-types like:

@font-face {
    font-family: GraublauWeb;
    src: url("webfont.eot"); /* IE9 Compat Modes */
    src: url("webfont.eot?#iefix") format("embedded-opentype"), /* IE6-IE8 */
         url("webfont.woff") format("woff"), /* Modern Browsers */
         url("webfont.ttf")  format("truetype"), /* Safari, Android, iOS */
         url("webfont.svg#svgFontName") format("svg"); /* Legacy iOS */
}

You can read more about why all these types are implemented and their hacks here. To get a detailed view of which file-types are supported by which browsers, see:

How to add an event after close the modal window?

Few answers that may be useful, especially if you have dynamic content.

$('#dialogueForm').live("dialogclose", function(){
   //your code to run on dialog close
});

Or, when opening the modal, have a callback.

$( "#dialogueForm" ).dialog({
              autoOpen: false,
              height: "auto",
              width: "auto",
              modal: true,
                my: "center",
                at: "center",
                of: window,
              close : function(){
                  // functionality goes here
              }
              });

How do I clear the std::queue efficiently?

Apparently, there are two most obvious ways to clear std::queue: swapping with empty object and assignment to empty object.

I would suggest using assignment because it simply faster, more readable, and unambiguous.

I measured performance using following simple code and I found that swapping in C++03 version works 70-80% slower than assignment to an empty object. In C++11 there is no difference in performance, however. Anyway, I would go with assignment.

#include <algorithm>
#include <ctime>
#include <iostream>
#include <queue>
#include <vector>

int main()
{
    std::cout << "Started" << std::endl;

    std::queue<int> q;

    for (int i = 0; i < 10000; ++i)
    {
        q.push(i);
    }

    std::vector<std::queue<int> > queues(10000, q);

    const std::clock_t begin = std::clock();

    for (std::vector<int>::size_type i = 0; i < queues.size(); ++i)
    {
        // OK in all versions
        queues[i] = std::queue<int>();

        // OK since C++11
        // std::queue<int>().swap(queues[i]);

        // OK before C++11 but slow
        // std::queue<int> empty;
        // std::swap(empty, queues[i]);
    }

    const double elapsed = double(clock() - begin) / CLOCKS_PER_SEC;

    std::cout << elapsed << std::endl;

    return 0;
}

Update MySQL using HTML Form and PHP

Update query may have some issues

$query = "UPDATE anstalld SET mandag = '$mandag', tisdag = '$tisdag', onsdag = '$onsdag', torsdag = '$torsdag', fredag = '$fredag' WHERE namn = '$namn' ";
echo $query;

Please make sure that, your variable not having values with qoutes ( ' ), May be the query is breaking somewhere.

echo the query and try to execute in phpmyadmin itself. Then you can find the issues.

What is a Sticky Broadcast?

A normal broadcast Intent is not available anymore after is was send and processed by the system. If you use the sendStickyBroadcast(Intent) method, the Intent is sticky, meaning the Intent you are sending stays around after the broadcast is complete.

Cast from VARCHAR to INT - MySQL

As described in Cast Functions and Operators:

The type for the result can be one of the following values:

  • BINARY[(N)]
  • CHAR[(N)]
  • DATE
  • DATETIME
  • DECIMAL[(M[,D])]
  • SIGNED [INTEGER]
  • TIME
  • UNSIGNED [INTEGER]

Therefore, you should use:

SELECT CAST(PROD_CODE AS UNSIGNED) FROM PRODUCT

In Objective-C, how do I test the object type?

When you want to differ between a superClass and the inheritedClass you can use:

if([myTestClass class] == [myInheritedClass class]){
   NSLog(@"I'm the inheritedClass);
}
if([myTestClass class] == [mySuperClass class]){
   NSLog(@"I'm the superClass);
}

Using - (BOOL)isKindOfClass:(Class)aClass in this case would result in TRUE both times because the inheritedClass is also a kind of the superClass.

How to increase image size of pandas.DataFrame.plot in jupyter notebook?

Try figsize param in df.plot(figsize=(width,height)):

df = pd.DataFrame({"a":[1,2],"b":[1,2]})
df.plot(figsize=(3,3));

enter image description here

df = pd.DataFrame({"a":[1,2],"b":[1,2]})
df.plot(figsize=(5,3));

"implements Runnable" vs "extends Thread" in Java

Simple way to say is: If you implement interface that means you are implementing all methods of it and if you extending the class you are inheriting method of your choice... In this case,there is only a one method named Run() so better to implement Runnable interface..

How to set a default value with Html.TextBoxFor?

If you have a partial page form for both editing and adding, then the trick I use to default value to 0 is to do the following:

@Html.TextBox("Age", Model.Age ?? 0)

That way it will be 0 if unset or the actual age if it exists.

querying WHERE condition to character length?

Sorry, I wasn't sure which SQL platform you're talking about:

In MySQL:

$query = ("SELECT * FROM $db WHERE conditions AND LENGTH(col_name) = 3");

in MSSQL

$query = ("SELECT * FROM $db WHERE conditions AND LEN(col_name) = 3");

The LENGTH() (MySQL) or LEN() (MSSQL) function will return the length of a string in a column that you can use as a condition in your WHERE clause.

Edit

I know this is really old but thought I'd expand my answer because, as Paulo Bueno rightly pointed out, you're most likely wanting the number of characters as opposed to the number of bytes. Thanks Paulo.

So, for MySQL there's the CHAR_LENGTH(). The following example highlights the difference between LENGTH() an CHAR_LENGTH():

CREATE TABLE words (
    word VARCHAR(100)
) ENGINE INNODB DEFAULT CHARSET utf8mb4 COLLATE utf8mb4_unicode_ci;

INSERT INTO words(word) VALUES('??'), ('happy'), ('hayir');

SELECT word, LENGTH(word) as num_bytes, CHAR_LENGTH(word) AS num_characters FROM words;

+--------+-----------+----------------+
| word   | num_bytes | num_characters |
+--------+-----------+----------------+
| ??    |         6 |              2 |
| happy  |         5 |              5 |
| hayir  |         6 |              5 |
+--------+-----------+----------------+

Be careful if you're dealing with multi-byte characters.

What is the meaning of @_ in Perl?

perldoc perlvar is the first place to check for any special-named Perl variable info.

Quoting:

@_: Within a subroutine the array @_ contains the parameters passed to that subroutine.

More details can be found in perldoc perlsub (Perl subroutines) linked from the perlvar:

Any arguments passed in show up in the array @_ .

Therefore, if you called a function with two arguments, those would be stored in $_[0] and $_[1].

The array @_ is a local array, but its elements are aliases for the actual scalar parameters. In particular, if an element $_[0] is updated, the corresponding argument is updated (or an error occurs if it is not updatable).

If an argument is an array or hash element which did not exist when the function was called, that element is created only when (and if) it is modified or a reference to it is taken. (Some earlier versions of Perl created the element whether or not the element was assigned to.) Assigning to the whole array @_ removes that aliasing, and does not update any arguments.

Detecting an "invalid date" Date instance in JavaScript

Inspired by Borgar's approach I have made sure that the code not only validates the date, but actually makes sure the date is a real date, meaning that dates like 31/09/2011 and 29/02/2011 are not allowed.

function(dateStr) {
    s = dateStr.split('/');
    d = new Date(+s[2], s[1]-1, +s[0]);
    if (Object.prototype.toString.call(d) === "[object Date]") {
        if (!isNaN(d.getTime()) && d.getDate() == s[0] &&
            d.getMonth() == (s[1] - 1)) {
            return true;
        }
    }
    return "Invalid date!";
}

Moment js date time comparison

Jsfiddle: http://jsfiddle.net/guhokemk/1/

 function compare(dateTimeA, dateTimeB) {
    var momentA = moment(dateTimeA,"DD/MM/YYYY");
    var momentB = moment(dateTimeB,"DD/MM/YYYY");
    if (momentA > momentB) return 1;
    else if (momentA < momentB) return -1;
    else return 0;
}

alert(compare("11/07/2015", "10/07/2015"));

The method returns 1 if dateTimeA is greater than dateTimeB

The method returns 0 if dateTimeA equals dateTimeB

The method returns -1 if dateTimeA is less than dateTimeB

How to delete all rows from all tables in a SQL Server database?

Here is a solution that:

  1. Drops constraints (thanks to this post)
  2. Iterates through INFORMATION_SCHEMA.TABLES for a particular database
  3. SELECTS tables based on some search criteria
  4. Deletes all the data from those tables
  5. Re-adds constraints
  6. Allows for ignoring of certain tables such as sysdiagrams and __RefactorLog

I initially tried EXECUTE sp_MSforeachtable 'TRUNCATE TABLE ?', but that deleted my diagrams.

USE <DB name>;
GO

-- Disable all constraints in the database
EXEC sp_msforeachtable "ALTER TABLE ? NOCHECK CONSTRAINT all"

Can I catch multiple Java exceptions in the same catch clause?

Catch the exception that happens to be a parent class in the exception hierarchy. This is of course, bad practice. In your case, the common parent exception happens to be the Exception class, and catching any exception that is an instance of Exception, is indeed bad practice - exceptions like NullPointerException are usually programming errors and should usually be resolved by checking for null values.

Why is setTimeout(fn, 0) sometimes useful?

setTimout on 0 is also very useful in the pattern of setting up a deferred promise, which you want to return right away:

myObject.prototype.myMethodDeferred = function() {
    var deferredObject = $.Deferred();
    var that = this; // Because setTimeout won't work right with this
    setTimeout(function() {
        return myMethodActualWork.call(that, deferredObject);
    }, 0);
    return deferredObject.promise();

How can I select all rows with sqlalchemy?

I use the following snippet to view all the rows in a table. Use a query to find all the rows. The returned objects are the class instances. They can be used to view/edit the values as required:

from sqlalchemy.ext.declarative import declarative_base
from sqlalchemy import create_engine, Sequence
from sqlalchemy import String, Integer, Float, Boolean, Column
from sqlalchemy.orm import sessionmaker

Base = declarative_base()

class MyTable(Base):
    __tablename__ = 'MyTable'
    id = Column(Integer, Sequence('user_id_seq'), primary_key=True)
    some_col = Column(String(500))

    def __init__(self, some_col):
        self.some_col = some_col

engine = create_engine('sqlite:///sqllight.db', echo=True)
Session = sessionmaker(bind=engine)
session = Session()

for class_instance in session.query(MyTable).all():
    print(vars(class_instance))

session.close()

Laravel 5 call a model function in a blade view

Related to the question in your answer:

You have multiple options to achieve this that are way better:

Let's assume you have a model which you pass to the view:

$model = Model::find(1);
View::make('view')->withModel($model);

Now in your Model you could have a function:

public function someFunction() {
    // do something
}

In your view you could call that function directly:

{{$model->someFunction()}}

This is nice if you want to do something with the model (the dataset).

If not you can still make a static function in the model:

public static function someStaticFunction($var1, $var2) {
    // do something
}

And then:

{{App\Model::someStaticFunction($yourVar1,$yourVar2)}}

Hope it helps.

Pad a string with leading zeros so it's 3 characters long in SQL Server 2008

If the field is already a string, this will work

 SELECT RIGHT('000'+ISNULL(field,''),3)

If you want nulls to show as '000'

It might be an integer -- then you would want

 SELECT RIGHT('000'+CAST(field AS VARCHAR(3)),3)

As required by the question this answer only works if the length <= 3, if you want something larger you need to change the string constant and the two integer constants to the width needed. eg '0000' and VARCHAR(4)),4

'Use of Unresolved Identifier' in Swift

If this is regarding a class you created, be sure that the class is not nested.

F.e

A.swift

class A {

   class ARelated {

   }
}

calling var b = ARelated() will give 'Use of unresolved identifier: ARelated'.

You can either:

1) separate the classes if wanted on the same file:

A.swift

class A {

}

class ARelated {

}

2) Maintain your same structure and use the enclosing class to get to the subclass:

var b = A.ARelated

gnuplot - adjust size of key/legend

To adjust the length of the samples:

set key samplen X

(default is 4)

To adjust the vertical spacing of the samples:

set key spacing X

(default is 1.25)

and (for completeness), to adjust the fontsize:

set key font "<face>,<size>"

(default depends on the terminal)

And of course, all these can be combined into one line:

set key samplen 2 spacing .5 font ",8"

Note that you can also change the position of the key using set key at <position> or any one of the pre-defined positions (which I'll just defer to help key at this point)

In [2]: df
Out[2]:

A  1  2
B  3  4

In [3]: L = ['A']

In [4]: df.select(lambda x: x in L)
Out[4]:

A  1  2

Select NOT IN multiple columns

Another mysteriously unknown RDBMS. Your Syntax is perfectly fine in PostgreSQL. Other query styles may perform faster (especially the NOT EXISTS variant or a LEFT JOIN), but your query is perfectly legit.

Be aware of pitfalls with NOT IN, though, when involving any NULL values:

Variant with LEFT JOIN:

SELECT *
FROM   friend f
LEFT   JOIN likes l USING (id1, id2)
WHERE  l.id1 IS NULL;

See @Michal's answer for the NOT EXISTS variant.
A more detailed assessment of four basic variants:

Remove a parameter to the URL with JavaScript

function removeParam(parameter)
{
  var url=document.location.href;
  var urlparts= url.split('?');

 if (urlparts.length>=2)
 {
  var urlBase=urlparts.shift();
  var queryString=urlparts.join("?");

  var prefix = encodeURIComponent(parameter)+'=';
  var pars = queryString.split(/[&;]/g);
  for (var i= pars.length; i-->0;)
      if (pars[i].lastIndexOf(prefix, 0)!==-1)
          pars.splice(i, 1);
  url = urlBase+'?'+pars.join('&');
  window.history.pushState('',document.title,url); // added this line to push the new url directly to url bar .

}
return url;
}

This will resolve your problem

Labels for radio buttons in rails form

<% form_for(@message) do |f| %>
  <%= f.radio_button :contactmethod, 'email', :checked => true %>
  <%= label :contactmethod_email, 'Email' %>
  <%= f.radio_button :contactmethod, 'sms' %>
  <%= label :contactmethod_sms, 'SMS' %>
<% end %>

ASP.NET DateTime Picker

This is solution without jquery.

Add Calendar and TextBox in WebForm -> Source of WebForm has this:

<asp:Calendar ID="Calendar1" runat="server" OnSelectionChanged="DateChange">
</asp:Calendar>
<asp:TextBox ID="TextBox1" runat="server"></asp:TextBox>

Create methods in cs file of WebForm:

protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
    {
        TextBox1.Text = DateTime.Today.ToShortDateString()+'.';
    }

    protected void DateChange(object sender, EventArgs e)
    {
        TextBox1.Text = Calendar1.SelectedDate.ToShortDateString() + '.';
    }

Method DateChange is connected with Calendar event SelectionChanged. It looks like this: DatePicker Image

Accessing last x characters of a string in Bash

Another workaround is to use grep -o with a little regex magic to get three chars followed by the end of line:

$ foo=1234567890
$ echo $foo | grep -o ...$
890

To make it optionally get the 1 to 3 last chars, in case of strings with less than 3 chars, you can use egrep with this regex:

$ echo a | egrep -o '.{1,3}$'
a
$ echo ab | egrep -o '.{1,3}$'
ab
$ echo abc | egrep -o '.{1,3}$'
abc
$ echo abcd | egrep -o '.{1,3}$'
bcd

You can also use different ranges, such as 5,10 to get the last five to ten chars.

How do I call an Angular.js filter with multiple arguments?

i mentioned in the below where i have mentioned the custom filter also , how to call these filter which is having two parameters

countryApp.filter('reverse', function() {
    return function(input, uppercase) {
        var out = '';
        for (var i = 0; i < input.length; i++) {
            out = input.charAt(i) + out;
        }
        if (uppercase) {
            out = out.toUpperCase();
        }
        return out;
    }
});

and from the html using the template we can call that filter like below

<h1>{{inputString| reverse:true }}</h1>

here if you see , the first parameter is inputString and second parameter is true which is combined with "reverse' using the : symbol

JWT (JSON Web Token) automatic prolongation of expiration

Today, lots of people opt for doing session management with JWTs without being aware of what they are giving up for the sake of perceived simplicity. My answer elaborates on the 2nd part of the questions:

What is the real benefit then? Why not have only one token (not JWT) and keep the expiration on the server?

Are there other options? Is using JWT not suited for this scenario?

JWTs are capable of supporting basic session management with some limitations. Being self-describing tokens, they don't require any state on the server-side. This makes them appealing. For instance, if the service doesn't have a persistence layer, it doesn't need to bring one in just for session management.

However, statelessness is also the leading cause of their shortcomings. Since they are only issued once with fixed content and expiration, you can't do things you would like to with a typical session management setup.

Namely, you can't invalidate them on-demand. This means you can't implement a secure logout as there is no way to expire already issued tokens. You also can't implement idle timeout for the same reason. One solution is to keep a blacklist, but that introduces state.

I wrote a post explaining these drawbacks in more detail. To be clear, you can work around these by adding more complexity (sliding sessions, refresh tokens, etc.)

As for other options, if your clients only interact with your service via a browser, I strongly recommend using a cookie-based session management solution. I also compiled a list authentication methods currently widely used on the web.

React eslint error missing in props validation

I ran into this issue over the past couple days. Like Omri Aharon said in their answer above, it is important to add definitions for your prop types similar to:

SomeClass.propTypes = {
    someProp: PropTypes.number,
    onTap: PropTypes.func,
};

Don't forget to add the prop definitions outside of your class. I would place it right below/above my class. If you are not sure what your variable type or suffix is for your PropType (ex: PropTypes.number), refer to this npm reference. To Use PropTypes, you must import the package:

import PropTypes from 'prop-types';

If you get the linting error:someProp is not required, but has no corresponding defaultProps declaration all you have to do is either add .isRequired to the end of your prop definition like so:

SomeClass.propTypes = {
    someProp: PropTypes.number.isRequired,
    onTap: PropTypes.func.isRequired,
};

OR add default prop values like so:

SomeClass.defaultProps = {
    someProp: 1
};

If you are anything like me, unexperienced or unfamiliar with reactjs, you may also get this error: Must use destructuring props assignment. To fix this error, define your props before they are used. For example:

const { someProp } = this.props;

How to move Docker containers between different hosts?

I tried many solutions for this, and this is the one that worked for me :

1.commit/save container to new image :

  1. ++ commit the container:
    # docker stop
    # docker commit CONTAINER_NAME
    # docker save --output IMAGE_NAME.tar IMAGE_NAME:TAG

ps:"Our container CONTAINER_NAME has a mounted volume at '/var/home'" ( you have to inspect your container to specify its volume path : # docker inspect CONTAINER_NAME )

  1. ++ save its volume : we will use an ubuntu image to do the thing.
    # mkdir backup
    # docker run --rm --volumes-from CONTAINER_NAME -v ${pwd}/backup:/backup ubuntu bash -c “cd /var/home && tar cvf /backup/volume_backup.tar .”

Now when you look at ${pwd}/backup , you will find our volume under tar format.
Until now, we have our conatainer's image 'IMAGE_NAME.tar' and its volume 'volume_backup.tar'.

Now you can , recreate the same old container on a new host.

XML Parsing - Read a Simple XML File and Retrieve Values

Are you familiar with the DataSet class?

The DataSet can also load XML documents and you may find it easier to iterate.

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.data.dataset.readxml.aspx

DataSet dt = new DataSet();
dt.ReadXml(@"c:\test.xml");

Error: Cannot find module html

I think you might need to declare a view engine.

If you want to use a view/template engine:

app.set('view engine', 'ejs');

or

app.set('view engine', 'jade');

But to render plain-html, see this post: Render basic HTML view?.
