Programs & Examples On #Textmate

TextMate is a text editor for Mac OS X.

How do you do the "therefore" (?) symbol on a Mac or in Textmate?

If you want to do this often, you can create a keybindings file in your Library to map it to a key combination.

In ~/Library create a directory named KeyBindings. Create a file named DefaultKeyBinding.dict inside the directory. You can add key bindings in this format:

{
    "x" = (insertText:, "\U23CF");
    "y" = (insertText:, "hi"); /* warning: this will change 'y' to 'hi'! */
}

The LHS is the key combination you'll hit to enter the character. You can use the following characters to indicate command keys:

@ - Command

~ - Option

^ - Control

You'll need to look up the unicode for your character (in this case, ? is \U2234). So to type this character whenever you typed Control-M, you'd use

"^m" = (insertText:, "\U2234");

You can find more information here: http://www.hcs.harvard.edu/~jrus/site/cocoa-text.html

Clear History and Reload Page on Login/Logout Using Ionic Framework

If you want to reload after view change you need to

$state.reload('state',{reload:true});

If you want to make that view the new "root", you can tell ionic that the next view it's gonna be the root

 $ionicHistory.nextViewOptions({ historyRoot: true });
 $state.go('app.xxx');
 return;

If you want to make your controllers reload after each view change

app.config(function ($stateProvider, $urlRouterProvider, $ionicConfigProvider) {

$ionicConfigProvider.views.maxCache(0);

What is the difference between Python and IPython?

ipython is an interactive shell built with python.

From the project website:

IPython provides a rich toolkit to help you make the most out of using Python, with:

  • Powerful Python shells (terminal and Qt-based).
  • A web-based notebook with the same core features but support for code, text, mathematical expressions, inline plots and other rich media.
  • Support for interactive data visualization and use of GUI toolkits.
  • Flexible, embeddable interpreters to load into your own projects.
  • Easy to use, high performance tools for parallel computing.

Note that the first 2 lines tell you it helps you make the most of using Python. Thus, you don't need to alter your code, the IPython shell runs your python code just like the normal python shell does, only with more features.

I recommend reading the IPython tutorial to get a sense of what features you gain when using IPython.

Svn switch from trunk to branch

In my case, I wanted to check out a new branch that has cut recently but it's it big in size and I want to save time and internet bandwidth, as I'm in a slow metered network

so I copped the previous branch that I already checked in

I went to the working directory, and from svn info, I can see it's on the previous branch I did the following command (you can find this command from svn switch --help)

svn switch ^/branches/newBranchName

go check svn info again you can see it is becoming the newBranchName go ahead and svn up

and this how I got the new branch easily, quickly with minimum data transmitting over the internet

hope sharing my case helps and speeds up your work

How to implement private method in ES6 class with Traceur

You can always use normal functions:

function myPrivateFunction() {
  console.log("My property: " + this.prop);
}

class MyClass() {
  constructor() {
    this.prop = "myProp";
    myPrivateFunction.bind(this)();
  }
}

new MyClass(); // 'My property: myProp'

The best way to calculate the height in a binary search tree? (balancing an AVL-tree)

Here's where it gets confusing, the text states "If the balance factor of R is 1, it means the insertion occurred on the (external) right side of that node and a left rotation is needed". But from m understanding the text said (as I quoted) that if the balance factor was within [-1, 1] then there was no need for balancing?

Okay, epiphany time.

Consider what a rotation does. Let's think about a left rotation.

 P = parent
 O = ourself (the element we're rotating)
 RC = right child
 LC = left child (of the right child, not of ourself)

 P              10
  \               \
   O               15
    \                \
     RC               20
    /                /
   LC               18

          ?
 P              10
   \               \
     RC              20
   /               /
  O              15
   \               \
   LC              18

 basically, what happens is;

 1. our right child moves into our position
 2. we become the left child of our right child
 3. our right child's left child becomes our right

Now, the big thing you have to notice here - this left rotation HAS NOT CHANGED THE DEPTH OF THE TREE. We're no more balanced for having done it.

But - and here's the magic in AVL - if we rotated the right child to the right FIRST, what we'd have is this...

 P
  \
   O
    \
     LC
      \
       RC

And NOW if we rotate O left, what we get is this...

 P
   \
     LC
    /  \
   O   RC

Magic! we've managed to get rid of a level of the tree - we've made the tree balanced.

Balancing the tree means getting rid of excess depth, and packing the upper levels more completely - which is exactly what we've just done.

That whole stuff about single/double rotations is simply that you have to have your subtree looking like this;

 P
  \
   O
    \
     LC
      \
       RC

before you rotate - and you may have to do a right rotate to get into that state. But if you're already in that state, you only need to do the left rotate.

What is private bytes, virtual bytes, working set?

The definition of the perfmon counters has been broken since the beginning and for some reason appears to be too hard to correct.

A good overview of Windows memory management is available in the video "Mysteries of Memory Management Revealed" on MSDN: It covers more topics than needed to track memory leaks (eg working set management) but gives enough detail in the relevant topics.

To give you a hint of the problem with the perfmon counter descriptions, here is the inside story about private bytes from "Private Bytes Performance Counter -- Beware!" on MSDN:

Q: When is a Private Byte not a Private Byte?

A: When it isn't resident.

The Private Bytes counter reports the commit charge of the process. That is to say, the amount of space that has been allocated in the swap file to hold the contents of the private memory in the event that it is swapped out. Note: I'm avoiding the word "reserved" because of possible confusion with virtual memory in the reserved state which is not committed.

From "Performance Planning" on MSDN:

3.3 Private Bytes

3.3.1 Description

Private memory, is defined as memory allocated for a process which cannot be shared by other processes. This memory is more expensive than shared memory when multiple such processes execute on a machine. Private memory in (traditional) unmanaged dlls usually constitutes of C++ statics and is of the order of 5% of the total working set of the dll.

Should I use typescript? or I can just use ES6?

I've been using Typescript in my current angular project for about a year and a half and while there are a few issues with definitions every now and then the DefinitelyTyped project does an amazing job at keeping up with the latest versions of most popular libraries.

Having said that there is a definite learning curve when transitioning from vanilla JavaScript to TS and you should take into account the ability of you and your team to make that transition. Also if you are going to be using angular 1.x most of the examples you will find online will require you to translate them from JS to TS and overall there are not a lot of resources on using TS and angular 1.x together right now.

If you plan on using angular 2 there are a lot of examples using TS and I think the team will continue to provide most of the documentation in TS, but you certainly don't have to use TS to use angular 2.

ES6 does have some nice features and I personally plan on getting more familiar with it but I would not consider it a production-ready language at this point. Mainly due to a lack of support by current browsers. Of course, you can write your code in ES6 and use a transpiler to get it to ES5, which seems to be the popular thing to do right now.

Overall I think the answer would come down to what you and your team are comfortable learning. I personally think both TS and ES6 will have good support and long futures, I prefer TS though because you tend to get language features quicker and right now the tooling support (in my opinion) is a little better.

Git push rejected "non-fast-forward"

  1. Undo the local commit. This will just undo the commit and preserves the changes in working copy
git reset --soft HEAD~1
  1. Pull the latest changes
git pull
  1. Now you can commit your changes on top of latest code

Creating a PDF from a RDLC Report in the Background

You can use following code which generate pdf file in background as like on button click and then would popup in brwoser with SaveAs and cancel option.

Warning[] warnings;
        string[] streamIds;
        string mimeType = string.Empty;
        string encoding = string.Empty;`enter code here`
        string extension = string.Empty;
        DataSet dsGrpSum, dsActPlan, dsProfitDetails,
            dsProfitSum, dsSumHeader, dsDetailsHeader, dsBudCom = null;

    enter code here

//This is optional if you have parameter then you can add parameters as much as you want
ReportParameter[] param = new ReportParameter[5];
            param[0] = new ReportParameter("Report_Parameter_0", "1st Para", true);
            param[1] = new ReportParameter("Report_Parameter_1", "2nd Para", true);
            param[2] = new ReportParameter("Report_Parameter_2", "3rd Para", true);
            param[3] = new ReportParameter("Report_Parameter_3", "4th Para", true);
            param[4] = new ReportParameter("Report_Parameter_4", "5th Para");

            DataSet  dsData= "Fill this dataset with your data";
            ReportDataSource rdsAct = new ReportDataSource("RptActDataSet_usp_GroupAccntDetails", dsActPlan.Tables[0]);
            ReportViewer viewer = new ReportViewer();
            viewer.LocalReport.Refresh();
            viewer.LocalReport.ReportPath = "Reports/AcctPlan.rdlc"; //This is your rdlc name.
            viewer.LocalReport.SetParameters(param);
            viewer.LocalReport.DataSources.Add(rdsAct); // Add  datasource here
            byte[] bytes = viewer.LocalReport.Render("PDF", null, out mimeType, out encoding, out extension, out streamIds, out warnings);
            // byte[] bytes = viewer.LocalReport.Render("Excel", null, out mimeType, out encoding, out extension, out streamIds, out warnings);

            Response.OutputStream.Write(bytes, 0, bytes.Length); // create the file
            Response.Flush(); // send it to the client to download

How can I change column types in Spark SQL's DataFrame?

So this only really works if your having issues saving to a jdbc driver like sqlserver, but it's really helpful for errors you will run into with syntax and types.

import org.apache.spark.sql.jdbc.{JdbcDialects, JdbcType, JdbcDialect}
import org.apache.spark.sql.jdbc.JdbcType
val SQLServerDialect = new JdbcDialect {
  override def canHandle(url: String): Boolean = url.startsWith("jdbc:jtds:sqlserver") || url.contains("sqlserver")

  override def getJDBCType(dt: DataType): Option[JdbcType] = dt match {
    case StringType => Some(JdbcType("VARCHAR(5000)", java.sql.Types.VARCHAR))
    case BooleanType => Some(JdbcType("BIT(1)", java.sql.Types.BIT))
    case IntegerType => Some(JdbcType("INTEGER", java.sql.Types.INTEGER))
    case LongType => Some(JdbcType("BIGINT", java.sql.Types.BIGINT))
    case DoubleType => Some(JdbcType("DOUBLE PRECISION", java.sql.Types.DOUBLE))
    case FloatType => Some(JdbcType("REAL", java.sql.Types.REAL))
    case ShortType => Some(JdbcType("INTEGER", java.sql.Types.INTEGER))
    case ByteType => Some(JdbcType("INTEGER", java.sql.Types.INTEGER))
    case BinaryType => Some(JdbcType("BINARY", java.sql.Types.BINARY))
    case TimestampType => Some(JdbcType("DATE", java.sql.Types.DATE))

Python module for converting PDF to text

I needed to convert a specific PDF to plain text within a python module. I used PDFMiner 20110515, after reading through their pdf2txt.py tool I wrote this simple snippet:

from cStringIO import StringIO
from pdfminer.pdfinterp import PDFResourceManager, process_pdf
from pdfminer.converter import TextConverter
from pdfminer.layout import LAParams

def to_txt(pdf_path):
    input_ = file(pdf_path, 'rb')
    output = StringIO()

    manager = PDFResourceManager()
    converter = TextConverter(manager, output, laparams=LAParams())
    process_pdf(manager, converter, input_)

    return output.getvalue()

Insert an element at a specific index in a list and return the updated list

The shortest I got: b = a[:2] + [3] + a[2:]

>>>
>>> a = [1, 2, 4]
>>> print a
[1, 2, 4]
>>> b = a[:2] + [3] + a[2:]
>>> print a
[1, 2, 4]
>>> print b
[1, 2, 3, 4]

Ionic 2: Cordova is not available. Make sure to include cordova.js or run in a device/simulator (running in emulator)

I also had this same problem.

I build .apk file of the project and installed it into mobile(android) and got it working

Getting permission denied (public key) on gitlab

I found this after searching a lot. It will work perfectly fine for me.

  1. Go to "Git Bash" just like cmd. Right click and "Run as Administrator".
  2. Type ssh-keygen
  3. Press enter.
  4. It will ask you to save the key to the specific directory.
  5. Press enter. It will prompt you to type password or enter without password.
  6. The public key will be created to the specific directory.
  7. Now go to the directory and open .ssh folder.
  8. You'll see a file id_rsa.pub. Open it on notepad. Copy all text from it.
  9. Go to https://gitlab.com/profile/keys .
  10. Paste here in the "key" textfield.
  11. Now click on the "Title" below. It will automatically get filled.
  12. Then click "Add key".

Now give it a shot and it will work for sure.

jQuery: Clearing Form Inputs

Demo : http://jsfiddle.net/xavi3r/D3prt/

$(':input','#myform')
  .not(':button, :submit, :reset, :hidden')
  .val('')
  .removeAttr('checked')
  .removeAttr('selected');

Original Answer: Resetting a multi-stage form with jQuery

Mike's suggestion (from the comments) to keep checkbox and selects intact!

Warning: If you're creating elements (so they're not in the dom), replace :hidden with [type=hidden] or all fields will be ignored!

$(':input','#myform')
  .removeAttr('checked')
  .removeAttr('selected')
  .not(':button, :submit, :reset, :hidden, :radio, :checkbox')
  .val('');

SVN Commit specific files

How to duplicate sys.stdout to a log file?

What you really want is logging module from standard library. Create a logger and attach two handlers, one would be writing to a file and the other to stdout or stderr.

See Logging to multiple destinations for details

The executable was signed with invalid entitlements

Had this issue occur when everything seemed to be setup correctly, build setting were pointing to correct provisioning profile, code signing was properly setup, etc.

Issue occurred because I had just created a new scheme and hadn't regenerated my CocoaPods for the new configurations. As you can see from the image, the new ad-hoc configuration is pointing to the Pods.production configuration, instead of a Pods.ad-hoc configuration (and test respectively)

Demonstrating a mis-match of ad-hoc configuration and scheme configuration

To fix:

  • Set the offending configuration to None -- cocoapods wouldn't generate the configs unless I did this
  • Close XCode
  • Run pod install
  • Re-open XCode and set the new scheme's configurations to the newly generated configurations.

That's it!

Using CookieContainer with WebClient class

 WebClient wb = new WebClient();
 wb.Headers.Add(HttpRequestHeader.Cookie, "somecookie");

From Comments

How do you format the name and value of the cookie in place of "somecookie" ?

wb.Headers.Add(HttpRequestHeader.Cookie, "cookiename=cookievalue");

For multiple cookies:

wb.Headers.Add(HttpRequestHeader.Cookie,
              "cookiename1=cookievalue1;" +
              "cookiename2=cookievalue2");

What's the difference between Visual Studio Community and other, paid versions?

There are 2 major differences.

  1. Technical
  2. Licensing

Technical, there are 3 major differences:

First and foremost, Community doesn't have TFS support.
You'll just have to use git (arguable whether this constitutes a disadvantage or whether this actually is a good thing).
Note: This is what MS wrote. Actually, you can check-in&out with TFS as normal, if you have a TFS server in the network. You just cannot use Visual Studio as TFS SERVER.

Second, VS Community is severely limited in its testing capability.
Only unit tests. No Performance tests, no load tests, no performance profiling.

Third, VS Community's ability to create Virtual Environments has been severely cut.

On the other hand, syntax highlighting, IntelliSense, Step-Through debugging, GoTo-Definition, Git-Integration and Build/Publish are really all the features I need, and I guess that applies to a lot of developers.

For all other things, there are tools that do the same job faster, better and cheaper.

If you, like me, anyway use git, do unit testing with NUnit, and use Java-Tools to do Load-Testing on Linux plus TeamCity for CI, VS Community is more than sufficient, technically speaking.

Licensing:

A) If you're an individual developer (no enterprise, no organization), no difference (AFAIK), you can use CommunityEdition like you'd use the paid edition (as long as you don't do subcontracting)
B) You can use CommunityEdition freely for OpenSource (OSI) projects
C) If you're an educational insitution, you can use CommunityEdition freely (for education/classroom use)
D) If you're an enterprise with 250 PCs or users or more than one million US dollars in revenue (including subsidiaries), you are NOT ALLOWED to use CommunityEdition.
E) If you're not an enterprise as defined above, and don't do OSI or education, but are an "enterprise"/organization, with 5 or less concurrent (VS) developers, you can use VS Community freely (but only if you're the owner of the software and sell it, not if you're a subcontractor creating software for a larger enterprise, software which in the end the enterprise will own), otherwise you need a paid edition.

The above does not consitute legal advise.

How to initialize array to 0 in C?

Global variables and static variables are automatically initialized to zero. If you have simply

char ZEROARRAY[1024];

at global scope it will be all zeros at runtime. But actually there is a shorthand syntax if you had a local array. If an array is partially initialized, elements that are not initialized receive the value 0 of the appropriate type. You could write:

char ZEROARRAY[1024] = {0};

The compiler would fill the unwritten entries with zeros. Alternatively you could use memset to initialize the array at program startup:

memset(ZEROARRAY, 0, 1024);

That would be useful if you had changed it and wanted to reset it back to all zeros.

Missing Authentication Token while accessing API Gateway?

I think you are directly trying to access API link, this won't work because API is secured using IAM role and you must provide AWS authentication i.e Access key and Secret key.

Use the Postman Chrome extension to test your API: http://docs.aws.amazon.com/apigateway/latest/developerguide/how-to-use-postman-to-call-api.html

var.replace is not a function

You should probably do some validations before you actually execute your function :

function trim(str) {
    if(typeof str !== 'string') {
        throw new Error('only string parameter supported!');
    }

    return str.replace(/^\s+|\s+$/g,'');
}

Bootstrap full-width text-input within inline-form

With Bootstrap >4.1 it's just a case of using the flexbox utility classes. Just have a flexbox container inside your column, and then give all the elements within it the "flex-fill" class. As with inline forms you'll need to set the margins/padding on the elements yourself.

Max tcp/ip connections on Windows Server 2008

There is a limit on the number of half-open connections, but afaik not for active connections. Although it appears to depend on the type of Windows 2008 server, at least according to this MSFT employee:

It depends on the edition, Web and Foundation editions have connection limits while Standard, Enterprise, and Datacenter do not.

Cannot construct instance of - Jackson

For me there was no default constructor defined for the POJOs I was trying to use. creating default constructor fixed it.

public class TeamCode {

    @Expose
    private String value;

    public String getValue() {
        return value;
    }

    **public TeamCode() {
    }**

    public TeamCode(String value) {

    public String toString() {
        return "TeamCode{" +
                "value='" + value + '\'' +

    }

    public void setValue(String value) {
        this.value = value;

Export query result to .csv file in SQL Server 2008

If you don't want to use Powershell, this answer is a variation on 8kb's great answer. The only difference is that instead of selecting CSV as the output format, select Tab Delimited. This way if there are commas in your data, it won't skip cells in Excel. Also, if you have Excel's default delimiter set to tabs, you can simply do a copy-all of the SSMS query results (CTRL-A, CTRL-C) and paste into Excel (no need to save as a file and import to Excel):

  • In SSMS Go to Tools > Options > Query Results > SQL Server > Results To Text
  • Change output format on far right to Tab Delimited
  • Click OK

Now you can execute your query, then do a CTRL-A to select all the results, then CTRL-C to copy to clipboard, then switch to Excel 2013 (may work in 2007 too, not sure) and paste -- assuming Excel's default delimiter is set to tab.

How to get the first word of a sentence in PHP?

If you have PHP 5.3

$myvalue = 'Test me more';
echo strstr($myvalue, ' ', true);

note that if $myvalue is a string with one word strstr doesn't return anything in this case. A solution could be to append a space to the test-string:

echo strstr( $myvalue . ' ', ' ', true );

That will always return the first word of the string, even if the string has just one word in it

The alternative is something like:

$i = strpos($myvalue, ' ');
echo $i !== false ? $myvalue : substr( $myvalue, 0, $i );

Or using explode, which has so many answers using it I won't bother pointing out how to do it.

Good tool to visualise database schema?

Years ago, I used to use Data Architect. I don't know if it's still out there.

You could reverse engineer an existing schema into a relational table diagram.

Or you could go even further, and reverse engineer an Entity-Relationship model with an accompanying diagram. ER diagrams were really useful to me when discussing the data with people who were neither programmers nor database experts.

Sometimes a few manual fixups to the ER model and ER diagram were necessary before it was a useful communication tool with stakeholders.

How to send 100,000 emails weekly?

People have recommended MailChimp which is a good vendor for bulk email. If you're looking for a good vendor for transactional email, I might be able to help.

Over the past 6 months, we used four different SMTP vendors with the goal of figuring out which was the best one.

Here's a summary of what we found...

AuthSMTP

  • Cheapest around
  • No analysis/reporting
  • No tracking for opens/clicks
  • Had slight hesitation on some sends

Postmark

  • Very cheap, but not as cheap as AuthSMTP
  • Beautiful cpanel but no tracking on opens/clicks
  • Send-level activity tracking so you can open a single email that was sent and look at how it looked and the delivery data.
  • Have to use API. Sending by SMTP was recently introduced but it's buggy. For instance, we noticed that quotes (") in the subject line are stripped.
  • Cannot send any attachment you want. Must be on approved list of file types and under a certain size. (10 MB I think)
  • Requires a set list of from names/addresses.

JangoSMTP

  • Expensive in relation to the others – more than 10 times in some cases
  • Ugly cpanel but great tracking on opens/clicks with email-level detail
  • Had hesitation, at times, when sending. On two occasions, sends took an hour to be delivered
  • Requires a set list of from name/addresses.

SendGrid

  • Not quite a cheap as AuthSMTP but still very cheap. Many customers can exist on 200 free sends per day.
  • Decent cpanel but no in-depth detail on open/click tracking
  • Lots of API options. Options (open/click tracking, etc) can be custom defined on an email-by-email basis. Inbound (reply) email can be posted to our HTTP end point.
  • Absolutely zero hesitation on sends. Every email sent landed in the inbox almost immediately.
  • Can send from any from name/address.

Conclusion

SendGrid was the best with Postmark coming in second place. We never saw any hesitation in send times with either of those two - in some cases we sent several hundred emails at once - and they both have the best ROI, given a solid featureset.

Using 'sudo apt-get install build-essentials'

I know this has been answered, but I had the same question and this is what I needed to do to resolve it. During installation, I had not added a network mirror, so I had to add information about where a repo was on the internet. To do this, I ran:

sudo vi /etc/apt/sources.list

and added the following lines:

deb http://ftp.debian.org/debian wheezy main
deb-src http://ftp.debian.org/debian wheezy main

If you need to do this, you may need to replace "wheezy" with the version of debian you're running. Afterwards, run:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install build-essential

Hopefully this will help someone who had the same problem that I did.

WCF - How to Increase Message Size Quota

Another important thing to consider from my experience..

I would strongly advice NOT to maximize maxBufferPoolSize, because buffers from the pool are never released until the app-domain (ie the Application Pool) recycles.

A period of high traffic could cause a lot of memory to be used and never released.

More details here:

Escape double quote in grep

The problem is that you aren't correctly escaping the input string, try:

echo "\"member\":\"time\"" | grep -e "member\""

Alternatively, you can use unescaped double quotes within single quotes:

echo '"member":"time"' | grep -e 'member"'

It's a matter of preference which you find clearer, although the second approach prevents you from nesting your command within another set of single quotes (e.g. ssh 'cmd').

Value of type 'T' cannot be converted to

Even though it's inside of an if block, the compiler doesn't know that T is string.
Therefore, it doesn't let you cast. (For the same reason that you cannot cast DateTime to string)

You need to cast to object, (which any T can cast to), and from there to string (since object can be cast to string).
For example:

T newT1 = (T)(object)"some text";
string newT2 = (string)(object)t;

Truncate (not round) decimal places in SQL Server

Another way is ODBC TRUNCATE function:

DECLARE @value DECIMAL(18,3) =123.456;

SELECT @value AS val, {fn TRUNCATE(@value, 2)} AS result

LiveDemo

Output:

+-------------------+
¦   val   ¦ result  ¦
¦---------+---------¦
¦ 123,456 ¦ 123,450 ¦
+-------------------+

Remark:

I recommend using built-in ROUND function with 3rd parameter set to 1.

How to return a specific status code and no contents from Controller?

Look at how the current Object Results are created. Here is the BadRequestObjectResult. Just an extension of the ObjectResult with a value and StatusCode.

https://github.com/aspnet/Mvc/blob/master/src/Microsoft.AspNetCore.Mvc.Core/BadRequestObjectResult.cs

I created a TimeoutExceptionObjectResult just the same way for 408.

/// <summary>
/// An <see cref="ObjectResult"/> that when executed will produce a Request Timeout (408) response.
/// </summary>
[DefaultStatusCode(DefaultStatusCode)]
public class TimeoutExceptionObjectResult : ObjectResult
{
    private const int DefaultStatusCode = StatusCodes.Status408RequestTimeout;

    /// <summary>
    /// Creates a new <see cref="TimeoutExceptionObjectResult"/> instance.
    /// </summary>
    /// <param name="error">Contains the errors to be returned to the client.</param>
    public TimeoutExceptionObjectResult(object error)
        : base(error)
    {
        StatusCode = DefaultStatusCode;
    }
}

Client:

if (ex is TimeoutException)
{
    return new TimeoutExceptionObjectResult("The request timed out.");
}

recursion versus iteration

Yes, as said by Thanakron Tandavas,

Recursion is good when you are solving a problem that can be solved by divide and conquer technique.

For example: Towers of Hanoi

  1. N rings in increasing size
  2. 3 poles
  3. Rings start stacked on pole 1. Goal is to move rings so that they are stacked on pole 3 ...But
    • Can only move one ring at a time.
    • Can’t put larger ring on top of smaller.
  4. Iterative solution is “powerful yet ugly”; recursive solution is “elegant”.

DNS caching in linux

Firefox contains a dns cache. To disable the DNS cache:

  1. Open your browser
  2. Type in about:config in the address bar
  3. Right click on the list of Properties and select New > Integer in the Context menu
  4. Enter 'network.dnsCacheExpiration' as the preference name and 0 as the integer value

When disabled, Firefox will use the DNS cache provided by the OS.

How do you view ALL text from an ntext or nvarchar(max) in SSMS?

Options (Query Results/SQL Server/Results to Grid Page)

To change the options for the current queries, click Query Options on the Query menu, or right-click in the SQL Server Query window and select Query Options.

...

Maximum Characters Retrieved
Enter a number from 1 through 65535 to specify the maximum number of characters that will be displayed in each cell.

Maximum is, as you see, 64k. The default is much smaller.

BTW Results to Text has even more drastic limitation:

Maximum number of characters displayed in each column
This value defaults to 256. Increase this value to display larger result sets without truncation. The maximum value is 8,192.

Target elements with multiple classes, within one rule

.border-blue.background { ... } is for one item with multiple classes.
.border-blue, .background { ... } is for multiple items each with their own class.
.border-blue .background { ... } is for one item where '.background' is the child of '.border-blue'.

See Chris' answer for a more thorough explanation.

Find Item in ObservableCollection without using a loop

ObservableCollection is a list so if you don't know the element position you have to look at each element until you find the expected one.

Possible optimization If your elements are sorted use a binary search to improve performances otherwise use a Dictionary as index.

VBA paste range

This is what I came up to when trying to copy-paste excel ranges with it's sizes and cell groups. It might be a little too specific for my problem but...:

Could not load file or assembly System.Web.Http.WebHost after published to Azure web site

The dll is missing in the published (deployed environment). That is the reason why it is working in the local i.e. Visual Studio but not in the Azure Website Environment.

Just do Copy Local = true in the properties for the assembly(System.Web.Http.WebHost) and then do a redeploy, it should work fine.

If you get the similar error i.e. some other assembly missing, then make that assembly to copylocal=true and redeploy, repeat this iteratively - if you are unsure of its dependencies.

How to set Spinner Default by its Value instead of Position?

If the list you use for the spinner is an object then you can find its position like this

private int selectSpinnerValue( List<Object> ListSpinner,String myString)
{
    int index = 0;
    for(int i = 0; i < ListSpinner.size(); i++){
      if(ListSpinner.get(i).getValueEquals().equals(myString)){
          index=i;
          break;
      }
    }
    return index;
}

using:

 int index=selectSpinnerValue(ListOfSpinner,StringEquals);
    spinner.setSelection(index,true);

Convert list into a pandas data frame

You need convert list to numpy array and then reshape:

df = pd.DataFrame(np.array(my_list).reshape(3,3), columns = list("abc"))
print (df)
   a  b  c
0  1  2  3
1  4  5  6

subtract time from date - moment js

There is a simple function subtract which moment library gives us to subtract time from some time. Using it is also very simple.

moment(Date.now()).subtract(7, 'days'); // This will subtract 7 days from current time
moment(Date.now()).subtract(3, 'd'); // This will subtract 3 days from current time

//You can do this for days, years, months, hours, minutes, seconds
//You can also subtract multiple things simulatneously

//You can chain it like this.
moment(Date.now()).subtract(3, 'd').subtract(5. 'h'); // This will subtract 3 days and 5 hours from current time

//You can also use it as object literal
moment(Date.now()).subtract({days:3, hours:5}); // This will subtract 3 days and 5 hours from current time

Hope this helps!

What is the intended use-case for git stash?

You can use the following commands:

  • To save your uncommitted changes

    git stash

  • To list your saved stashes

    git stash list

  • To apply/get back the uncommited changes where x is 0,1,2...

    git stash apply stash@{x}

Note:

  • To apply a stash and remove it from the stash list

    git stash pop stash@{x}

  • To apply a stash and keep it in the stash list

    git stash apply stash@{x}

When should an Excel VBA variable be killed or set to Nothing?

I have at least one situation where the data is not automatically cleaned up, which would eventually lead to "Out of Memory" errors. In a UserForm I had:

Public mainPicture As StdPicture
...
mainPicture = LoadPicture(PAGE_FILE)

When UserForm was destroyed (after Unload Me) the memory allocated for the data loaded in the mainPicture was not being de-allocated. I had to add an explicit

mainPicture = Nothing

in the terminate event.

Getting Textarea Value with jQuery

It can be done at easily like as:

     <a id="send-thoughts" href="">Click</a>
     <textarea id="message"></textarea>

        $("a#send-thoughts").click(function() {
            var thought = $("#message").val();
            alert(thought);
        });

c# - How to get sum of the values from List?

How about this?

List<string> monValues = Application["mondayValues"] as List<string>;
int sum = monValues.ConvertAll(Convert.ToInt32).Sum();

How to get input field value using PHP

Example of using PHP to get a value from a form:

Put this in foobar.php:

<html>
<body>
  <form action="foobar_submit.php" method="post">
    <input name="my_html_input_tag"  value="PILLS HERE"/>

    <input type="submit" name="my_form_submit_button"
           value="Click here for penguins"/>

    </form>
</body>
</html>

Read the above code so you understand what it is doing:

"foobar.php is an HTML document containing an HTML form. When the user presses the submit button inside the form, the form's action property is run: foobar_submit.php. The form will be submitted as a POST request. Inside the form is an input tag with the name "my_html_input_tag". It's default value is "PILLS HERE". That causes a text box to appear with text: 'PILLS HERE' on the browser. To the right is a submit button, when you click it, the browser url changes to foobar_submit.php and the below code is run.

Put this code in foobar_submit.php in the same directory as foobar.php:

<?php
  echo $_POST['my_html_input_tag'];
  echo "<br><br>";
  print_r($_POST);
?>

Read the above code so you know what its doing:

The HTML form from above populated the $_POST superglobal with key/value pairs representing the html elements inside the form. The echo prints out the value by key: 'my_html_input_tag'. If the key is found, which it is, its value is returned: "PILLS HERE".

Then print_r prints out all the keys and values from $_POST so you can peek as to what else is in there.

The value of the input tag with name=my_html_input_tag was put into the $_POST and you retrieved it inside another PHP file.

Multiple INSERT statements vs. single INSERT with multiple VALUES

Addition: SQL Server 2012 shows some improved performance in this area but doesn't seem to tackle the specific issues noted below. This should apparently be fixed in the next major version after SQL Server 2012!

Your plan shows the single inserts are using parameterised procedures (possibly auto parameterised) so parse/compile time for these should be minimal.

I thought I'd look into this a bit more though so set up a loop (script) and tried adjusting the number of VALUES clauses and recording the compile time.

I then divided the compile time by the number of rows to get the average compile time per clause. The results are below

Graph

Up until 250 VALUES clauses present the compile time / number of clauses has a slight upward trend but nothing too dramatic.

Graph

But then there is a sudden change.

That section of the data is shown below.

The cached plan size which had been growing linearly suddenly drops but CompileTime increases 7 fold and CompileMemory shoots up. This is the cut off point between the plan being an auto parametrized one (with 1,000 parameters) to a non parametrized one. Thereafter it seems to get linearly less efficient (in terms of number of value clauses processed in a given time).

Not sure why this should be. Presumably when it is compiling a plan for specific literal values it must perform some activity that does not scale linearly (such as sorting).

It doesn't seem to affect the size of the cached query plan when I tried a query consisting entirely of duplicate rows and neither affects the order of the output of the table of the constants (and as you are inserting into a heap time spent sorting would be pointless anyway even if it did).

Moreover if a clustered index is added to the table the plan still shows an explicit sort step so it doesn't seem to be sorting at compile time to avoid a sort at run time.

Plan

I tried to look at this in a debugger but the public symbols for my version of SQL Server 2008 don't seem to be available so instead I had to look at the equivalent UNION ALL construction in SQL Server 2005.

So going off the names in the stack trace it appears to spend a lot of time comparing strings.

This KB article indicates that DeriveNormalizedGroupProperties is associated with what used to be called the normalization stage of query processing

This stage is now called binding or algebrizing and it takes the expression parse tree output from the previous parse stage and outputs an algebrized expression tree (query processor tree) to go forward to optimization (trivial plan optimization in this case) [ref].

I tried one more experiment (Script) which was to re-run the original test but looking at three different cases.

  1. First Name and Last Name Strings of length 10 characters with no duplicates.
  2. First Name and Last Name Strings of length 50 characters with no duplicates.
  3. First Name and Last Name Strings of length 10 characters with all duplicates.

Graph

It can clearly be seen that the longer the strings the worse things get and that conversely the more duplicates the better things get. As previously mentioned duplicates don't affect the cached plan size so I presume that there must be a process of duplicate identification when constructing the algebrized expression tree itself.

Edit

One place where this information is leveraged is shown by @Lieven here

SELECT *
FROM (VALUES ('Lieven1', 1),
             ('Lieven2', 2),
             ('Lieven3', 3))Test (name, ID)
ORDER BY name, 1/ (ID - ID)

Because at compile time it can determine that the Name column has no duplicates it skips ordering by the secondary 1/ (ID - ID) expression at run time (the sort in the plan only has one ORDER BY column) and no divide by zero error is raised. If duplicates are added to the table then the sort operator shows two order by columns and the expected error is raised.

If a folder does not exist, create it

Create a new folder, given a parent folder's path:

        string pathToNewFolder = System.IO.Path.Combine(parentFolderPath, "NewSubFolder");
        DirectoryInfo directory = Directory.CreateDirectory(pathToNewFolder);
       // Will create if does not already exist (otherwise will ignore)
  • path to new folder given
  • directory information variable so you can continue to manipulate it as you please.

"Logging out" of phpMyAdmin?

This happens because the current account you have used to log in probably has very limited priviledges.

To fix this problem, you can change your the AllowNoPassword config setting to false in config.inc.php. You may also force the authentication to use the config file and specify the default username and password .

$cfg['Servers'][$i]['AllowNoPassword'] = false;
$cfg['Servers'][$i]['auth_type'] = 'config';

$cfg['Servers'][$i]['user'] = 'root';
$cfg['Servers'][$i]['password'] = ''; // leave blank if no password

After this, the PhPMyAdmin login page should show up when you refresh the page. You can then log in with the default root password.

More details can be found on this post ..

How do you unit test private methods?

If you want to unit test a private method, something may be wrong. Unit tests are (generally speaking) meant to test the interface of a class, meaning its public (and protected) methods. You can of course "hack" a solution to this (even if just by making the methods public), but you may also want to consider:

  1. If the method you'd like to test is really worth testing, it may be worth to move it into its own class.
  2. Add more tests to the public methods that call the private method, testing the private method's functionality. (As the commentators indicated, you should only do this if these private methods's functionality is really a part in with the public interface. If they actually perform functions that are hidden from the user (i.e. the unit test), this is probably bad).

Construct a manual legend for a complicated plot

In case you were struggling to change linetypes, the following answer should be helpful. (This is an addition to the solution by Andy W.)

We will try to extend the learned pattern:

line_types <- c("LINE1"=1,"LINE2"=3)

The problem is that the linetype is not merged in the main legend. Note that we did not give any name to the method scale_linetype_manual. The trick which works here is to give it the same name as what you used for naming scale_colour_manual. More specifically, if we change the corresponding line to the following we get the desired result:

scale_linetype_manual(name="Error Bars",values=line_types)

manual with the same name

Now, it is easy to change the size of the line with the same idea.

Note that the geom_bar has not colour property anymore. (I did not try to fix this issue.) Also, adding geom_errorbar with colour attribute spoils the result. It would be great if somebody can come up with a better solution which resolves these two issues as well.

Tokenizing Error: java.util.regex.PatternSyntaxException, dangling metacharacter '*'

I had similar problem with regex = "?". It happens for all special characters that have some meaning in a regex. So you need to have "\\" as a prefix to your regex.

String [] separado = line.split("\\*");

What's the difference between window.location= and window.location.replace()?

window.location adds an item to your history in that you can (or should be able to) click "Back" and go back to the current page.

window.location.replace replaces the current history item so you can't go back to it.

See window.location:

assign(url): Load the document at the provided URL.

replace(url):Replace the current document with the one at the provided URL. The difference from the assign() method is that after using replace() the current page will not be saved in session history, meaning the user won't be able to use the Back button to navigate to it.

Oh and generally speaking:

window.location.href = url;

is favoured over:

window.location = url;

Turning Sonar off for certain code

This is a FAQ. You can put //NOSONAR on the line triggering the warning. I prefer using the FindBugs mechanism though, which consists in adding the @SuppressFBWarnings annotation:

@edu.umd.cs.findbugs.annotations.SuppressFBWarnings(
    value = "NAME_OF_THE_FINDBUGS_RULE_TO_IGNORE",
    justification = "Why you choose to ignore it")

HTML Image not displaying, while the src url works

Your file needs to be located inside your www directory. For example, if you're using wamp server on Windows, j3evn.jpg should be located,

C:/wamp/www/img/j3evn.jpg

and you can access it in html via

<img class="sealImage" alt="Image of Seal" src="../img/j3evn.jpg">

Look for the www, public_html, or html folder belonging to your web server. Place all your files and resources inside that folder.

Hope this helps!

Simple logical operators in Bash

What you've written actually almost works (it would work if all the variables were numbers), but it's not an idiomatic way at all.

  • (…) parentheses indicate a subshell. What's inside them isn't an expression like in many other languages. It's a list of commands (just like outside parentheses). These commands are executed in a separate subprocess, so any redirection, assignment, etc. performed inside the parentheses has no effect outside the parentheses.
    • With a leading dollar sign, $(…) is a command substitution: there is a command inside the parentheses, and the output from the command is used as part of the command line (after extra expansions unless the substitution is between double quotes, but that's another story).
  • { … } braces are like parentheses in that they group commands, but they only influence parsing, not grouping. The program x=2; { x=4; }; echo $x prints 4, whereas x=2; (x=4); echo $x prints 2. (Also braces require spaces around them and a semicolon before closing, whereas parentheses don't. That's just a syntax quirk.)
    • With a leading dollar sign, ${VAR} is a parameter expansion, expanding to the value of a variable, with possible extra transformations.
  • ((…)) double parentheses surround an arithmetic instruction, that is, a computation on integers, with a syntax resembling other programming languages. This syntax is mostly used for assignments and in conditionals.
    • The same syntax is used in arithmetic expressions $((…)), which expand to the integer value of the expression.
  • [[ … ]] double brackets surround conditional expressions. Conditional expressions are mostly built on operators such as -n $variable to test if a variable is empty and -e $file to test if a file exists. There are also string equality operators: "$string1" == "$string2" (beware that the right-hand side is a pattern, e.g. [[ $foo == a* ]] tests if $foo starts with a while [[ $foo == "a*" ]] tests if $foo is exactly a*), and the familiar !, && and || operators for negation, conjunction and disjunction as well as parentheses for grouping. Note that you need a space around each operator (e.g. [[ "$x" == "$y" ]], not [[ "$x"=="$y" ]]), and a space or a character like ; both inside and outside the brackets (e.g. [[ -n $foo ]], not [[-n $foo]]).
  • [ … ] single brackets are an alternate form of conditional expressions with more quirks (but older and more portable). Don't write any for now; start worrying about them when you find scripts that contain them.

This is the idiomatic way to write your test in bash:

if [[ $varA == 1 && ($varB == "t1" || $varC == "t2") ]]; then

If you need portability to other shells, this would be the way (note the additional quoting and the separate sets of brackets around each individual test, and the use of the traditional = operator rather than the ksh/bash/zsh == variant):

if [ "$varA" = 1 ] && { [ "$varB" = "t1" ] || [ "$varC" = "t2" ]; }; then

What is JAVA_HOME? How does the JVM find the javac path stored in JAVA_HOME?

Basically JAVA_HOME is use to set path of the java . it is use in windows. it's used for set path of the multiple software like as java EE , ANT and Maven. this is the steps to solve your problem:

only for core java to set path : path :"C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.8.0_77\bin" but when you are use multi built like as ANT , core java then you are used JAVE_HOME in environment .

follow the steps :

JAVA_HOME:"C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.8.0_77\bin" ANT_HOME:"C:\ant\apache-ant-1.9.6"

Path: JAVA_HOME, ANT_HOME; it is the systematic way to set the environment variable..

Unicode character in PHP string

Try Portable UTF-8:

$str = utf8_chr( 0x1000 );
$str = utf8_chr( '\u1000' );
$str = utf8_chr( 4096 );

All work exactly the same way. You can get the codepoint of a character with utf8_ord(). Read more about Portable UTF-8.

Making view resize to its parent when added with addSubview

You can always do it in your UIViews - (void)didMoveToSuperview method. It will get called when added or removed from your parent (nil when removed). At that point in time just set your size to that of your parent. From that point on the autoresize mask should work properly.

Multiple conditions in ngClass - Angular 4

There are multiple ways to write same logic. As it mentioned earlier, you can use object notation or simply expression. However, I think you should not that much logic in HTML. Hard to test and find issue. You can use a getter function to assign the class.

For Instance;

public getCustomCss() {
    //Logic here;
    if(this.x == this.y){
        return 'class1'
    }
    if(this.x == this.z){
        return 'class2'
    }
}
<!-- HTML -->
<div [ngClass]="getCustomCss()"> Some prop</div>

//OR

get customCss() {
    //Logic here;
    if(this.x == this.y){
        return 'class1'
    }
    if(this.x == this.z){
        return 'class2'
    }
}
<!-- HTML -->
<div [ngClass]="customCss"> Some prop</div>

Stick button to right side of div

Normally I would recommend floating but from your 3 requirements I would suggest this:

position: absolute;
right: 10px;
top: 5px;

Don't forget position: relative; on the parent div

DEMO

Two constructors

Let's, just as example:

public class Test {     public Test() {         System.out.println("NO ARGS");     }      public Test(String s) {         this();         System.out.println("1 ARG");     }      public static void main(String args[])     {         Test t = new Test("s");     } }

It will print

>>> NO ARGS >>> 1 ARG

The correct way to call the constructor is by:

this();

'module' has no attribute 'urlencode'

import urllib.parse
urllib.parse.urlencode({'spam': 1, 'eggs': 2, 'bacon': 0})

Right pad a string with variable number of spaces

Whammo blammo (for leading spaces):

SELECT

    RIGHT(space(60) + cust_address, 60)

OR (for trailing spaces)

SELECT
    LEFT(cust_name + space(60), 60),
    LEFT(cust_address + space(60), 60),

an htop-like tool to display disk activity in linux

You could use iotop. It doesn't rely on a kernel patch. It Works with stock Ubuntu kernel

There is a package for it in the Ubuntu repos. You can install it using

What is the equivalent of "none" in django templates?

You could try this:

{% if not profile.user.first_name.value %}
  <p> -- </p>
{% else %}
  {{ profile.user.first_name }} {{ profile.user.last_name }}
{% endif %}

This way, you're essentially checking to see if the form field first_name has any value associated with it. See {{ field.value }} in Looping over the form's fields in Django Documentation.

I'm using Django 3.0.

Calling a JavaScript function named in a variable

If it´s in the global scope it´s better to use:

function foo()
{
    alert('foo');
}

var a = 'foo';
window[a]();

than eval(). Because eval() is evaaaaaal.

Exactly like Nosredna said 40 seconds before me that is >.<

How can I read input from the console using the Scanner class in Java?

When the user enters his/her username, check for valid entry also.

java.util.Scanner input = new java.util.Scanner(System.in);
String userName;
final int validLength = 6; // This is the valid length of an user name

System.out.print("Please enter the username: ");
userName = input.nextLine();

while(userName.length() < validLength) {

    // If the user enters less than validLength characters
    // ask for entering again
    System.out.println(
        "\nUsername needs to be " + validLength + " character long");

    System.out.print("\nPlease enter the username again: ");
    userName = input.nextLine();
}

System.out.println("Username is: " + userName);

Node.js: get path from the request

You can use this in app.js file .

var apiurl = express.Router();

    var fullUrl = req.protocol + '://' + req.get('host') + req.originalUrl;
    next();
});
app.use('/', apiurl);

Disabling right click on images using jquery

Would it be possible to leave the ability to right click and download just when done a separate watermark is placed on the image. Of course this won't prevent screen shots but thought it may be a good middle ground.

What does DIM stand for in Visual Basic and BASIC?

It stands for Dimension, but is generally read as "Create Variable," or "Allocate Space for This."

How to persist a property of type List<String> in JPA?

Ok i know its bit late. But for those brave souls that will see this as time passes.

As written in documentation:

@Basic: The simplest type of mapping to a database column. The Basic annotation can be applied to a persistent property or instance variable of any of the following types: Java primitive types, [...], enums, and any other type that implements java.io.Serializable.

The important part is type that implements Serializable

So by far the most simple and easiest to use solution is simply using ArrayList instead of List (or any serializable container):

@Basic
ArrayList<Color> lovedColors;

@Basic
ArrayList<String> catNames;

Remember however that this will use system serialization, so it will come with some price, such as:

  • if serialized object model will change, u might not be able to restore data

  • small overhead is added for each element stored.

In short

it is quite simple to store flags or few elements, but i would not recomend it to store data that might grow big.

How to disable logging on the standard error stream in Python?

Logging has the following structure:

  • loggers are arranged according to a namespace hierarchy with dot separators;
  • each logger has a level (logging.WARNING by default for the root logger and logging.NOTSET by default for non-root loggers) and an effective level (the effective level of the parent logger for non-root loggers with a level logging.NOTSET and the level of the logger otherwise);
  • each logger has a list of filters;
  • each logger has a list of handlers;
  • each handler has a level (logging.NOTSET by default);
  • each handler has a list of filters.

Logging has the following process (represented by a flowchart):

Logging flow.

Therefore to disable a particular logger you can do one of the following:

  1. Set the level of the logger to logging.CRITICAL + 1.

    • Using the main API:

      import logging

      logger = logging.getLogger("foo")
      logger.setLevel(logging.CRITICAL + 1)

    • Using the config API:

      import logging.config

      logging.config.dictConfig({
          "version": 1,
          "loggers": {
              "foo": {
                  "level": logging.CRITICAL + 1
              }
          }
      })

  2. Add a filter lambda record: False to the logger.

    • Using the main API:

      import logging

      logger = logging.getLogger("foo")
      logger.addFilter(lambda record: False)

    • Using the config API:

      import logging.config

      logging.config.dictConfig({
          "version": 1,
          "filters": {
              "all": {
                  "()": lambda: (lambda record: False)
              }
          },
          "loggers": {
              "foo": {
                  "filters": ["all"]
              }
          }
      })

  3. Remove the existing handlers of the logger, add a handler logging.NullHandler() to the logger (to prevent events from being handled by the handler logging.lastResort which is a logging.StreamHandler using the current stream sys.stderr and a level logging.WARNING) and set the attribute propagate of the logger to False (to prevent events from being handled by the handlers of the ancestor loggers of the logger).

    • Using the main API:

      import logging

      logger = logging.getLogger("foo")
      for handler in logger.handlers.copy():
          logger.removeHandler(handler)
      logger.addHandler(logging.NullHandler())
      logger.propagate = False

    • Using the config API:

      import logging.config

      logging.config.dictConfig({
          "version": 1,
          "handlers": {
              "null": {
                  "class": "logging.NullHandler"
              }
          },
          "loggers": {
              "foo": {
                  "handlers": ["null"],
                  "propagate": False
              }
          }
      })

Warning. — Contrary to approaches 1 and 2 which only prevent events logged by the logger from being emitted by the handlers of the logger and its ancestor loggers, approach 3 also prevents events logged by the descendant loggers of the logger (e.g. logging.getLogger("foo.bar")) to be emitted by the handlers of the logger and its ancestor loggers.

Note. — Setting the attribute disabled of the logger to True is not yet another approach, as it is not part of the public API. See https://bugs.python.org/issue36318:

import logging

logger = logging.getLogger("foo")
logger.disabled = True # DO NOT DO THIS

How to debug Spring Boot application with Eclipse?

The best solution in my opinion is add a plugin in the pom.xml, and you don't need to do anything else all the time:

<build>
        <plugins>
            <plugin>
                <groupId>org.springframework.boot</groupId>
                <artifactId>spring-boot-maven-plugin</artifactId>
                <configuration>
                    <jvmArguments>
                        -Xdebug -Xrunjdwp:transport=dt_socket,server=y,suspend=n,address=9898
                    </jvmArguments>
                </configuration>
                <executions>
                    <execution>
                        <goals>
                            <goal>repackage</goal>
                        </goals>
                    </execution>
                </executions>
            </plugin>

How can I download HTML source in C#

The newest, most recent, up to date answer
This post is really old (it's 7 years old when I answered it), so no one of the other answers used the new and recommended way, which is HttpClient class.

HttpClient is considered the new API and it should replace the old ones (WebClient and WebRequest)

string url = "page url";
HttpClient client = new HttpClient();
using (HttpResponseMessage response = client.GetAsync(url).Result)
{
   using (HttpContent content = response.Content)
   {
      string result = content.ReadAsStringAsync().Result;
   }
}

for more information about how to use the HttpClient class (especially in async cases), you can refer this question

NOTE 1: If you want to use async/await

string url = "page url";
HttpClient client = new HttpClient(); // actually only one object should be created by Application
using (HttpResponseMessage response = await client.GetAsync(url))
{
   using (HttpContent content = response.Content)
   {
      string result = await content.ReadAsStringAsync();
   }
}

NOTE 2: If use C# 8 features

string url = "page url";
HttpClient client = new HttpClient();
using HttpResponseMessage response = await client.GetAsync(url);
using HttpContent content = response.Content;
string result = await content.ReadAsStringAsync();

Regex to match URL end-of-line or "/" character

You've got a couple regexes now which will do what you want, so that's adequately covered.

What hasn't been mentioned is why your attempt won't work: Inside a character class, $ (as well as ^, ., and /) has no special meaning, so [/$] matches either a literal / or a literal $ rather than terminating the regex (/) or matching end-of-line ($).

How do I URL encode a string

CSS vertical alignment text inside li

Simple solution for vertical align middle... for me it works like a charm

What's the canonical way to check for type in Python?

You can check for type of a variable using __name__ of a type.

Ex:

>>> a = [1,2,3,4]
>>> b = 1
>>> type(a).__name__
'list'
>>> type(a).__name__ == 'list'
True
>>> type(b).__name__ == 'list'
False
>>> type(b).__name__
'int'

Is there a template engine for Node.js?

Pretty-print an entire Pandas Series / DataFrame

Using pd.options.display

This answer is a variation of the prior answer by lucidyan. It makes the code more readable by avoiding the use of set_option.

After importing pandas, as an alternative to using the context manager, set such options for displaying large dataframes:

def set_pandas_display_options() -> None:
    """Set pandas display options."""
    # Ref: https://stackoverflow.com/a/52432757/
    display = pd.options.display

    display.max_columns = 1000
    display.max_rows = 1000
    display.max_colwidth = 199
    display.width = None
    # display.precision = 2  # set as needed

set_pandas_display_options()

After this, you can use either display(df) or just df if using a notebook, otherwise print(df).

Using to_string

Pandas 0.25.3 does have DataFrame.to_string and Series.to_string methods which accept formatting options.

Using to_markdown

If what you need is markdown output, Pandas 1.0.0 has DataFrame.to_markdown and Series.to_markdown methods.

Using to_html

If what you need is HTML output, Pandas 0.25.3 does have a DataFrame.to_html method but not a Series.to_html. Note that a Series can be converted to a DataFrame.

How to cin Space in c++?

Using cin's >> operator will drop leading whitespace and stop input at the first trailing whitespace. To grab an entire line of input, including spaces, try cin.getline(). To grab one character at a time, you can use cin.get().

How to make the webpack dev server run on port 80 and on 0.0.0.0 to make it publicly accessible?

For me: changing the listen host worked:

.listen(3000, 'localhost', function (err, result) {
        if (err) {
            console.log(err);
        }
        console.log('Listening at localhost:3000');
    });

was changed to :

.listen(3000, '0.0.0.0', function (err, result) {
        if (err) {
            console.log(err);
        }
        console.log('Listening at localhost:3000');
    });

and the server started listening on 0.0.0.0

Difference between e.target and e.currentTarget

e.currentTarget would always return the component onto which the event listener is added.

On the other hand, e.target can be the component itself or any direct child or grand child or grand-grand-child and so on who received the event. In other words, e.target returns the component which is on top in the Display List hierarchy and must be in the child hierarchy or the component itself.

One use can be when you have several Image in Canvas and you want to drag Images inside the component but Canvas. You can add a listener on Canvas and in that listener you can write the following code to make sure that Canvas wouldn't get dragged.

function dragImageOnly(e:MouseEvent):void
{
    if(e.target==e.currentTarget)
    {
        return;
     }
     else
     {
        Image(e.target).startDrag();
     }
}

Loop through list with both content and index

>>> for index, elem in enumerate(S):
        print(index, elem)

(1, 30)
(2, 20)
(3, 30)
(4, 2)

Adding header to all request with Retrofit 2

RetrofitHelper library written in kotlin, will let you make API calls, using a few lines of code.

Add headers in your application class like this :

class Application : Application() {

    override fun onCreate() {
    super.onCreate()

        retrofitClient = RetrofitClient.instance
                    //api url

What's the difference between getRequestURI and getPathInfo methods in HttpServletRequest?

I will put a small comparison table here (just to have it somewhere):

Servlet is mapped as /test%3F/* and the application is deployed under /app.

http://30thh.loc:8480/app/test%3F/a%3F+b;jsessionid=S%3F+ID?p+1=c+d&p+2=e+f#a

Method              URL-Decoded Result
----------------------------------------------------
getContextPath()        no      /app
getLocalAddr()                  127.0.0.1
getLocalName()                  30thh.loc
getLocalPort()                  8480
getMethod()                     GET
getPathInfo()           yes     /a?+b
getProtocol()                   HTTP/1.1
getQueryString()        no      p+1=c+d&p+2=e+f
getRequestedSessionId() no      S%3F+ID
getRequestURI()         no      /app/test%3F/a%3F+b;jsessionid=S+ID
getRequestURL()         no      http://30thh.loc:8480/app/test%3F/a%3F+b;jsessionid=S+ID
getScheme()                     http
getServerName()                 30thh.loc
getServerPort()                 8480
getServletPath()        yes     /test?
getParameterNames()     yes     [p 2, p 1]
getParameter("p 1")     yes     c d

In the example above the server is running on the localhost:8480 and the name 30thh.loc was put into OS hosts file.

Comments

  • "+" is handled as space only in the query string

  • Anchor "#a" is not transferred to the server. Only the browser can work with it.

  • If the url-pattern in the servlet mapping does not end with * (for example /test or *.jsp), getPathInfo() returns null.

If Spring MVC is used

  • Method getPathInfo() returns null.

  • Method getServletPath() returns the part between the context path and the session ID. In the example above the value would be /test?/a?+b

  • Be careful with URL encoded parts of @RequestMapping and @RequestParam in Spring. It is buggy (current version 3.2.4) and is usually not working as expected.

Is there a limit to the length of a GET request?

The specification does not limit the length of an HTTP Get request but the different browsers implement their own limitations. For example Internet Explorer has a limitation implemented at 2083 characters.

How do I remove newlines from a text file?

Nerd fact: use ASCII instead.

automating telnet session using bash scripts

Use ssh for that purpose. Generate keys without using a password and place it to .authorized_keys at the remote machine. Create the script to be run remotely, copy it to the other machine and then just run it remotely using ssh.

I used this approach many times with a big success. Also note that it is much more secure than telnet.

type attribute identifies the scripting language of code embedded within a script element or referenced via the element’s src attribute. This is specified as a MIME type; examples of supported MIME types include text/javascript, text/ecmascript, application/javascript, and application/ecmascript. If this attribute is absent, the script is treated as JavaScript.

Log4net does not write the log in the log file

In my case, log4net wasn't logging properly due to having a space in my project name. Drove me nuts why the same code worked just fine in a different project, but didn't in the new one. Spaces. A simple space.

So, beware spaces in project names. I've learned my lesson.

How to subtract/add days from/to a date?

Just subtract a number:

> as.Date("2009-10-01")
[1] "2009-10-01"
> as.Date("2009-10-01")-5
[1] "2009-09-26"

Since the Date class only has days, you can just do basic arithmetic on it.

If you want to use POSIXlt for some reason, then you can use it's slots:

> a <- as.POSIXlt("2009-10-04")
> names(unclass(as.POSIXlt("2009-10-04")))
[1] "sec" "min" "hour" "mday" "mon" "year" "wday" "yday" "isdst"
> a$mday <- a$mday - 6
> a
[1] "2009-09-28 EDT"

How to copy data from another workbook (excel)?

Two years later (Found this on Google, so for anyone else)... As has been mentioned above, you don't need to select anything. These three lines:

Workbooks(File).Worksheets(SheetData).Range("A1").Select
Workbooks(File).Worksheets(SheetData).Range(Selection, Selection.End(xlToRight)).Select
Workbooks(File).Worksheets(SheetData).Selection.Copy ActiveWorkbook.Sheets(sheetName).Cells(1, 1)

Can be replaced with

Workbooks(File).Worksheets(SheetData).Range(Workbooks(File).Worksheets(SheetData). _
Range("A1"), Workbooks(File).Worksheets(SheetData).Range("A1").End(xlToRight)).Copy _
Destination:=ActiveWorkbook.Sheets(sheetName).Cells(1, 1)

This should get around the select error.

How to create a video from images with FFmpeg?

-pattern_type glob

This great option makes it easier to select the images in many cases.

Slideshow video with one image per second

ffmpeg -framerate 1 -pattern_type glob -i '*.png' \
  -c:v libx264 -r 30 -pix_fmt yuv420p out.mp4

Add some music to it, cutoff when the presumably longer audio when the images end:

ffmpeg -framerate 1 -pattern_type glob -i '*.png' -i audio.ogg \
  -c:a copy -shortest -c:v libx264 -r 30 -pix_fmt yuv420p out.mp4

Here are two demos on YouTube:

Be a hippie and use the Theora patent-unencumbered video format:

ffmpeg -framerate 1 -pattern_type glob -i '*.png' -i audio.ogg \
  -c:a copy -shortest -c:v libtheora -r 30 -pix_fmt yuv420p out.ogg

Your images should of course be sorted alphabetically, typically as:

0001-first-thing.jpg
0002-second-thing.jpg
0003-and-third.jpg

and so on.

I would also first ensure that all images to be used have the same aspect ratio, possibly by cropping them with imagemagick or nomacs beforehand, so that ffmpeg will not have to make hard decisions. In particular, the width has to be divisible by 2, otherwise conversion fails with: "width not divisible by 2".

Normal speed video with one image per frame at 30 FPS

ffmpeg -framerate 30 -pattern_type glob -i '*.png' \
  -c:v libx264 -pix_fmt yuv420p out.mp4

Here's what it looks like:

GIF generated with: https://askubuntu.com/questions/648603/how-to-create-an-animated-gif-from-mp4-video-via-command-line/837574#837574

Add some audio to it:

ffmpeg -framerate 30 -pattern_type glob -i '*.png' \
  -i audio.ogg -c:a copy -shortest -c:v libx264 -pix_fmt yuv420p out.mp4

These are the test media I've used:a

wget -O opengl-rotating-triangle.zip https://github.com/cirosantilli/media/blob/master/opengl-rotating-triangle.zip?raw=true
unzip opengl-rotating-triangle.zip
cd opengl-rotating-triangle
wget -O audio.ogg https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/74/Alnitaque_%26_Moon_Shot_-_EURO_%28Extended_Mix%29.ogg

Images generated with: How to use GLUT/OpenGL to render to a file?

It is cool to observe how much the video compresses the image sequence way better than ZIP as it is able to compress across frames with specialized algorithms:

  • opengl-rotating-triangle.mp4: 340K
  • opengl-rotating-triangle.zip: 7.3M

Full realistic slideshow case study setup step by step

There's a bit more to creating slideshows than running a single ffmpeg command, so here goes a more interesting detailed example inspired by this timeline.

Get the input media:

mkdir -p orig
cd orig
wget -O 1.png https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/2/22/Australopithecus_afarensis.png
wget -O 2.jpg https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/6/61/Homo_habilis-2.JPG

wget -O 5.jpg https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/5/5a/Sabaa_Nissan_Militiaman.jpg/450px-Sabaa_Nissan_Militiaman.jpg
wget -O audio.ogg https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/74/Alnitaque_%26_Moon_Shot_-_EURO_%28Extended_Mix%29.ogg
cd ..

# Convert all to PNG for consistency.
# https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/29869/converting-multiple-image-files-from-jpeg-to-pdf-format
# Hardlink the ones that are already PNG.
mkdir -p png
mogrify -format png -path png orig/*.jpg
ln -P orig/*.png png

Now we have a quick look at all image sizes to decide on the final aspect ratio:

identify png/*

which outputs:

png/1.png PNG 557x495 557x495+0+0 8-bit sRGB 653KB 0.000u 0:00.000
png/2.png PNG 664x800 664x800+0+0 8-bit sRGB 853KB 0.000u 0:00.000
png/3.png PNG 544x680 544x680+0+0 8-bit sRGB 442KB 0.000u 0:00.000
png/4.png PNG 207x238 207x238+0+0 8-bit sRGB 76.8KB 0.000u 0:00.000
png/5.png PNG 450x600 450x600+0+0 8-bit sRGB 627KB 0.000u 0:00.000

so the classic 480p (640x480 == 4/3) aspect ratio seems appropriate.

Do one conversion with minimal resizing to make widths even (TODO automate for any width, here I just manually looked at identify output and reduced width and height by one):

mkdir -p raw
convert png/1.png -resize 556x494 raw/1.png
ln -P png/2.png png/3.png png/4.png png/5.png raw
ffmpeg -framerate 1 -pattern_type glob -i 'raw/*.png' -i orig/audio.ogg -c:v libx264 -c:a copy -shortest -r 30 -pix_fmt yuv420p raw.mp4

This produces terrible output, because as seen from:

ffprobe raw.mp4

ffmpeg just takes the size of the first image, 556x494, and then converts all others to that exact size, breaking their aspect ratio.

Now let's convert the images to the target 480p aspect ratio automatically by cropping as per ImageMagick: how to minimally crop an image to a certain aspect ratio?

mkdir -p auto
mogrify -path auto -geometry 640x480^ -gravity center -crop 640x480+0+0 png/*.png
ffmpeg -framerate 1 -pattern_type glob -i 'auto/*.png' -i orig/audio.ogg -c:v libx264 -c:a copy -shortest -r 30 -pix_fmt yuv420p auto.mp4

So now, the aspect ratio is good, but inevitably some cropping had to be done, which kind of cut up interesting parts of the images.

The other option is to pad with black background to have the same aspect ratio as shown at: Resize to fit in a box and set background to black on "empty" part

mkdir -p black
ffmpeg -framerate 1 -pattern_type glob -i 'black/*.png' -i orig/audio.ogg -c:v libx264 -c:a copy -shortest -r 30 -pix_fmt yuv420p black.mp4

Generally speaking though, you will ideally be able to select images with the same or similar aspect ratios to avoid those problems in the first place.

About the CLI options

Note however that despite the name, -glob this is not as general as shell Glob patters, e.g.: -i '*' fails: https://trac.ffmpeg.org/ticket/3620 (apparently because filetype is deduced from extension).

-r 30 makes the -framerate 1 video 30 FPS to overcome bugs in players like VLC for low framerates: VLC freezes for low 1 FPS video created from images with ffmpeg Therefore it repeats each frame 30 times to keep the desired 1 image per second effect.

Next steps

You will also want to:

TODO: learn to cut and concatenate multiple audio files into the video without intermediate files, I'm pretty sure it's possible:

ffmpeg 3.4.4, vlc 3.0.3, Ubuntu 18.04.

Reset select2 value and show placeholder

After trying the first 10 solutions here and failing, I found this solution to work (see "nilov commented on Apr 7 • edited" comment down the page):

(function ($) {
   $.fn.refreshDataSelect2 = function (data) {
       this.select2('data', data);

       // Update options
       var $select = $(this[0]);
       var options = data.map(function(item) {
           return '<option value="' + item.id + '">' + item.text + '</option>';
       });
       $select.html(options.join('')).change();
   };
})(jQuery);

The change is then made:

var data = [{ id: 1, text: 'some value' }];
$('.js-some-field').refreshDataSelect2(data);

(The author originally showed var $select = $(this[1]);, which a commenter corrected to var $select = $(this[0]);, which I show above.)

How do you set autocommit in an SQL Server session?

I wanted a more permanent and quicker way. Because I tend to forget to add extra lines before writing my actual Update/Insert queries.

I did it by checking SET IMPLICIT_TRANSACTIONS check-box from Options. To navigate to Options Select Tools>Options>Query Execution>SQL Server>ANSI in your Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio.

Just make sure to execute commit or rollback after you are done executing your queries. Otherwise, the table you would have run the query will be locked for others.

TypeError: 'module' object is not callable

Here is another gotcha, that took me awhile to see even after reading these posts. I was setting up a script to call my python bin scripts. I was getting the module not callable too.

My zig was that I was doing the following:

from mypackage.bin import myscript
...
myscript(...)

when my zag needed to do the following:

from mypackage.bin.myscript import myscript
...
myscript(...)

In summary, double check your package and module nesting.

What I am trying to do is have a scripts directory that does not have the *.py extension, and still have the 'bin' modules to be in mypackage/bin and these have my *.py extension. I am new to packaging, and trying to follow the standards as I am interpreting them. So, I have at the setup root:

setup.py
scripts/
      script1
mypackage/
   bin/
      script1.py
   subpackage1/
   subpackage_etc/

If this is not compliant with standard, please let me know.

Does C have a "foreach" loop construct?

C doesn't have a foreach, but macros are frequently used to emulate that:

#define for_each_item(item, list) \
    for(T * item = list->head; item != NULL; item = item->next)

And can be used like

for_each_item(i, processes) {
    i->wakeup();
}

Iteration over an array is also possible:

#define foreach(item, array) \
    for(int keep = 1, \
            count = 0,\
            size = sizeof (array) / sizeof *(array); \
        keep && count != size; \
        keep = !keep, count++) \
      for(item = (array) + count; keep; keep = !keep)

And can be used like

int values[] = { 1, 2, 3 };
foreach(int *v, values) {
    printf("value: %d\n", *v);
}

Edit: In case you are also interested in C++ solutions, C++ has a native for-each syntax called "range based for"

How can I get the class name from a C++ object?

You could try using "typeid".

This doesn't work for "object" name but YOU know the object name so you'll just have to store it somewhere. The Compiler doesn't care what you namned an object.

Its worth bearing in mind, though, that the output of typeid is a compiler specific thing so even if it produces what you are after on the current platform it may not on another. This may or may not be a problem for you.

The other solution is to create some kind of template wrapper that you store the class name in. Then you need to use partial specialisation to get it to return the correct class name for you. This has the advantage of working compile time but is significantly more complex.

Edit: Being more explicit

template< typename Type > class ClassName
{
public:
    static std::string name()
    {
        return "Unknown";
    }
};

Then for each class somethign liek the following:

template<> class ClassName<MyClass>
{
public:
    static std::string name()
    {
        return "MyClass";
    }
};

Which could even be macro'd as follows:

#define DefineClassName( className ) \
\
template<> class ClassName<className> \
{ \
public: \
    static std::string name() \
    { \
        return #className; \
    } \
}; \

Allowing you to, simply, do

DefineClassName( MyClass );

Finally to Get the class name you'd do the following:

ClassName< MyClass >::name();

Edit2: Elaborating further you'd then need to put this "DefineClassName" macro in each class you make and define a "classname" function that would call the static template function.

Edit3: And thinking about it ... Its obviously bad posting first thing in the morning as you may as well just define a member function "classname()" as follows:

std::string classname()
{
     return "MyClass";
}

which can be macro'd as follows:

DefineClassName( className ) \
std::string classname()  \
{ \
     return #className; \
}

Then you can simply just drop

DefineClassName( MyClass );

into the class as you define it ...

How to remove carriage returns and new lines in Postgresql?

In the case you need to remove line breaks from the begin or end of the string, you may use this:

UPDATE table
SET field = regexp_replace(field, E'(^[\\n\\r]+)|([\\n\\r]+$)', '', 'g' );

Have in mind that the hat ^ means the begin of the string and the dollar sign $ means the end of the string.

Hope it help someone.

Getting request payload from POST request in Java servlet

String payloadRequest = getBody(request);

Using this method

public static String getBody(HttpServletRequest request) throws IOException {

    String body = null;
    StringBuilder stringBuilder = new StringBuilder();
    BufferedReader bufferedReader = null;

    try {
        InputStream inputStream = request.getInputStream();
        if (inputStream != null) {
            bufferedReader = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(inputStream));
            char[] charBuffer = new char[128];
            int bytesRead = -1;
            while ((bytesRead = bufferedReader.read(charBuffer)) > 0) {
                stringBuilder.append(charBuffer, 0, bytesRead);

Removing specific rows from a dataframe

Here's a solution to your problem using dplyr's filter function.

Although you can pass your data frame as the first argument to any dplyr function, I've used its %>% operator, which pipes your data frame to one or more dplyr functions (just filter in this case).

Once you are somewhat familiar with dplyr, the cheat sheet is very handy.

> print(df <- data.frame(sub=rep(1:3, each=4), day=1:4))
   sub day
1    1   1
2    1   2
3    1   3
4    1   4
5    2   1
6    2   2
7    2   3
8    2   4
9    3   1
10   3   2
11   3   3
12   3   4
> print(df <- df %>% filter(!((sub==1 & day==2) | (sub==3 & day==4))))
   sub day
1    1   1
2    1   3
3    1   4
4    2   1
5    2   2
6    2   3
7    2   4
8    3   1
9    3   2
10   3   3

Adding a new SQL column with a default value

ALTER TABLE my_table ADD COLUMN new_field TinyInt(1) DEFAULT 0;

Select data from date range between two dates

select *
from table
where
( (table.EndDate > '2013-01-05') and (table.StartDate < '2013-01-07' )  )

SQLAlchemy: What's the difference between flush() and commit()?

As @snapshoe says

flush() sends your SQL statements to the database

commit() commits the transaction.

When session.autocommit == False:

commit() will call flush() if you set autoflush == True.

When session.autocommit == True:

You can't call commit() if you haven't started a transaction (which you probably haven't since you would probably only use this mode to avoid manually managing transactions).

In this mode, you must call flush() to save your ORM changes. The flush effectively also commits your data.

How to determine if .NET Core is installed

After all the other answers, this might prove useful.

Open your application in Visual Studio. In Solutions Explorer, right click your project. Click Properties. Click Application. Under "Target Framework" click the dropdown button and there you are, all of the installed frameworks.

BTW - you may now choose which framework you want.

Firebase FCM notifications click_action payload

As far as I can tell, at this point it is not possible to set click_action in the console.

While not a strict answer to how to get the click_action set in the console, you can use curl as an alternative:

curl --header "Authorization: key=<YOUR_KEY_GOES_HERE>" --header Content-Type:"application/json" https://fcm.googleapis.com/fcm/send  -d "{\"to\":\"/topics/news\",\"notification\": {\"title\": \"Click Action Message\",\"text\": \"Sample message\",\"click_action\":\"OPEN_ACTIVITY_1\"}}"

This is an easy way to test click_action mapping. It requires an intent filter like the one specified in the FCM docs:

_x000D_
_x000D_
<intent-filter>_x000D_
  <action android:name="OPEN_ACTIVITY_1" />_x000D_
  <category android:name="android.intent.category.DEFAULT" />_x000D_
</intent-filter>
_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_

This also makes use of topics to set the audience. In order for this to work you will need to subscribe to a topic called "news".

FirebaseMessaging.getInstance().subscribeToTopic("news");

Even though it takes several hours to see a newly-created topic in the console, you may still send messages to it through the FCM apis.

Also, keep in mind, this will only work if the app is in the background. If it is in the foreground you will need to implement an extension of FirebaseMessagingService. In the onMessageReceived method, you will need to manually navigate to your click_action target:

    @Override
public void onMessageReceived(RemoteMessage remoteMessage) {
    //This will give you the topic string from curl request (/topics/news)
    Log.d(TAG, "From: " + remoteMessage.getFrom());
    //This will give you the Text property in the curl request(Sample Message):
    Log.d(TAG, "Notification Message Body: " + remoteMessage.getNotification().getBody());
    //This is where you get your click_action
    Log.d(TAG, "Notification Click Action: " + remoteMessage.getNotification().getClickAction());
    //put code here to navigate based on click_action
}

As I said, at this time I cannot find a way to access notification payload properties through the console, but I thought this work around might be helpful.

prevent property from being serialized in web API

I will show you 2 ways to accomplish what you want:

First way: Decorate your field with JsonProperty attribute in order to skip the serialization of that field if it is null.

public class Foo
{
    public int Id { get; set; }
    public string Name { get; set; }

    [JsonProperty(NullValueHandling = NullValueHandling.Ignore)]
    public List<Something> Somethings { get; set; }
}

Second way: If you are negotiation with some complex scenarios then you could use the Web Api convention ("ShouldSerialize") in order to skip serialization of that field depending of some specific logic.

public class Foo
{
    public int Id { get; set; }
    public string Name { get; set; }

    public List<Something> Somethings { get; set; }

    public bool ShouldSerializeSomethings() {
         var resultOfSomeLogic = false;
         return resultOfSomeLogic;
    }
}

WebApi uses JSON.Net and it use reflection to serialization so when it has detected (for instance) the ShouldSerializeFieldX() method the field with name FieldX will not be serialized.

Easy way to write contents of a Java InputStream to an OutputStream

Here comes how I'm doing with simplest for loop.

private void copy(final InputStream in, final OutputStream out)
    throws IOException {
    final byte[] b = new byte[8192];
    for (int r; (r = in.read(b)) != -1;) {
        out.write(b, 0, r);
    }
}

MySQL Removing Some Foreign keys

The foreign keys are there to ensure data integrity, so you can't drop a column as long as it's part of a foreign key. You need to drop the key first.

I would think the following query would do it:

ALTER TABLE assignmentStuff DROP FOREIGN KEY assignmentIDX;

Faster way to zero memory than with memset?

Nowadays your compiler should do all the work for you. At least of what I know gcc is very efficient in optimizing calls to memset away (better check the assembler, though).

Then also, avoid memset if you don't have to:

  • use calloc for heap memory
  • use proper initialization (... = { 0 }) for stack memory

And for really large chunks use mmap if you have it. This just gets zero initialized memory from the system "for free".

Conda uninstall one package and one package only

You can use conda remove --force.

The documentation says:

--force Forces removal of a package without removing packages
                      that depend on it. Using this option will usually
                      leave your environment in a broken and inconsistent
                      state

Bash Script : what does #!/bin/bash mean?

That is called a shebang, it tells the shell what program to interpret the script with, when executed.

In your example, the script is to be interpreted and run by the bash shell.

Some other example shebangs are:

(From Wikipedia)

#!/bin/sh — Execute the file using sh, the Bourne shell, or a compatible shell
#!/bin/csh — Execute the file using csh, the C shell, or a compatible shell
#!/usr/bin/perl -T — Execute using Perl with the option for taint checks
#!/usr/bin/php — Execute the file using the PHP command line interpreter
#!/usr/bin/python -O — Execute using Python with optimizations to code
#!/usr/bin/ruby — Execute using Ruby

and a few additional ones I can think off the top of my head, such as:

#!/bin/ksh
#!/bin/awk
#!/bin/expect

In a script with the bash shebang, for example, you would write your code with bash syntax; whereas in a script with expect shebang, you would code it in expect syntax, and so on.

Response to updated portion:

It depends on what /bin/sh actually points to on your system. Often it is just a symlink to /bin/bash. Sometimes portable scripts are written with #!/bin/sh just to signify that it's a shell script, but it uses whichever shell is referred to by /bin/sh on that particular system (maybe it points to /bin/bash, /bin/ksh or /bin/zsh)

Headers and client library minor version mismatch

For WHM and cPanel, some versions need to explicty set mysqli to build.

Using WHM, under CENTOS 6.9 xen pv [dc] v68.0.27, one needed to rebuild Apache/PHP by looking at all options and select mysqli to build. The default was to build the deprecated mysql. Now the depreciation messages are gone and one is ready for future MySQL upgrades.

TreeMap sort by value

A lot of people hear adviced to use List and i prefer to use it as well

here are two methods you need to sort the entries of the Map according to their values.

    static final Comparator<Entry<?, Double>> DOUBLE_VALUE_COMPARATOR =
        new Comparator<Entry<?, Double>>() {
            @Override
            public int compare(Entry<?, Double> o1, Entry<?, Double> o2) {
                return o1.getValue().compareTo(o2.getValue());
            }
        };

        static final List<Entry<?, Double>> sortHashMapByDoubleValue(HashMap temp)
        {
            Set<Entry<?, Double>> entryOfMap = temp.entrySet();

            List<Entry<?, Double>> entries = new ArrayList<Entry<?, Double>>(entryOfMap);
            Collections.sort(entries, DOUBLE_VALUE_COMPARATOR);
            return entries;
        }

How do I POST XML data to a webservice with Postman?

Send XML requests with the raw data type, then set the Content-Type to text/xml.

  1. After creating a request, use the dropdown to change the request type to POST.

    Set request type to POST

  2. Open the Body tab and check the data type for raw.

    Setting data type to raw

  3. Open the Content-Type selection box that appears to the right and select either XML (application/xml) or XML (text/xml)

    Selecting content-type text/xml

  4. Enter your raw XML data into the input field below

    Example of XML request in Postman

  5. Click Send to submit your XML Request to the specified server.

Convert file to byte array and vice versa

//The file that you wanna convert into byte[]
File file=new File("/storage/0CE2-EA3D/DCIM/Camera/VID_20190822_205931.mp4");

FileInputStream fileInputStream=new FileInputStream(file);
byte[] data=new byte[(int) file.length()];
BufferedInputStream bufferedInputStream=new BufferedInputStream(fileInputStream);
bufferedInputStream.read(data,0,data.length);

//Now the bytes of the file are contain in the "byte[] data"
/*If you want to convert these bytes into a file, you have to write these bytes to a
certain location, then it will make a new file at that location if same named file is
not available at that location*/
FileOutputStream fileOutputStream =new FileOutputStream(Environment.getExternalStoragePublicDirectory(Environment.DIRECTORY_DOWNLOADS).toString()+"/Video.mp4");
fileOutputStream.write(data);
 /* It will write or make a new file named Video.mp4 in the "Download" directory of
    the External Storage */

Can an Android NFC phone act as an NFC tag?

Read here: http://groups.google.com/group/android-developers/browse_thread/thread/d5fc35a9f16aa467/dec4843abd73d9e9%3Flnk%3Dgst%26q%3Dsecure%2Belement%2Bdiff%2527s%23dec4843abd73d9e9?pli=1

I've not verified that myself but it looks like people managed to include the hidden code into Android again. They seem to be able to emulate a Mifare Classic card (iso-14443). I'll soon test this myself, it looks very interesting.

If you want to do it for a commercial/free app you'll have a hard time, your users won't like to change their kernel to support your app.

Update: There would be a simple trick to make your phone emulate a ticket:
You can get a NFC-sticker and put it in or on the phone. This way you are able to read and write it at all times and other devices can also read and write it.
It's just an idea I had, never seen that used anywhere of course ;)

Deploying just HTML, CSS webpage to Tomcat

If you want to create a .war file you can deploy to a Tomcat instance using the Manager app, create a folder, put all your files in that folder (including an index.html file) move your terminal window into that folder, and execute the following command:

zip -r <AppName>.war *

I've tested it with Tomcat 8 on the Mac, but it should work anywhere

How to get selected value of a html select with asp.net

If you would use asp:dropdownlist you could select it easier by testSelect.Text.

Now you'd have to do a Request.Form["testSelect"] to get the value after pressed btnTes.

Hope it helps.

EDIT: You need to specify a name of the select (not only ID) to be able to Request.Form["testSelect"]

What's the best way to dedupe a table?

SELECT DISTINCT <insert all columns but the PK here> FROM foo. Create a temp table using that query (the syntax varies by RDBMS but there's typically a SELECT … INTO or CREATE TABLE AS pattern available), then blow away the old table and pump the data from the temp table back into it.

Resizing UITableView to fit content

As an extension of Anooj VM's answer, I suggest the following to refresh content size only when it changes.

This approach also disable scrolling properly and support larger lists and rotation. There is no need to dispatch_async because contentSize changes are dispatched on main thread.

- (void)viewDidLoad {
        [super viewDidLoad];
        [self.tableView addObserver:self forKeyPath:@"contentSize" options:NSKeyValueObservingOptionOld|NSKeyValueObservingOptionNew context:NULL];
}

- (void)resizeTableAccordingToContentSize:(CGSize)newContentSize {
        CGRect superviewTableFrame  = self.tableView.superview.bounds;
        CGRect tableFrame = self.tableView.frame;
        BOOL shouldScroll = newContentSize.height > superviewTableFrame.size.height;
        tableFrame.size = shouldScroll ? superviewTableFrame.size : newContentSize;
        [UIView animateWithDuration:0.3
                                    delay:0
                                    options:UIViewAnimationOptionCurveLinear
                                    animations:^{
                            self.tableView.frame = tableFrame;
        } completion: nil];
        self.tableView.scrollEnabled = shouldScroll;
}

- (void)observeValueForKeyPath:(NSString *)keyPath ofObject:(id)object change:(NSDictionary<NSString *,id> *)change context:(void *)context {
    if ([change[NSKeyValueChangeKindKey] unsignedIntValue] == NSKeyValueChangeSetting &&
        [keyPath isEqualToString:@"contentSize"] &&
        !CGSizeEqualToSize([change[NSKeyValueChangeOldKey] CGSizeValue], [change[NSKeyValueChangeNewKey] CGSizeValue])) {
        [self resizeTableAccordingToContentSize:[change[NSKeyValueChangeNewKey] CGSizeValue]];
    }
}

- (void)didRotateFromInterfaceOrientation:(UIInterfaceOrientation)fromInterfaceOrientation {
    [super didRotateFromInterfaceOrientation:fromInterfaceOrientation];
    [self resizeTableAccordingToContentSize:self.tableView.contentSize]; }

- (void)dealloc {
    [self.tableView removeObserver:self forKeyPath:@"contentSize"];

How to check if a specific key is present in a hash or not?

In Rails 5, the has_key? method checks if key exists in hash. The syntax to use it is:

YourHash.has_key? :yourkey

HTTP 400 (bad request) for logical error, not malformed request syntax

Even though, I have been using 400 to represent logical errors also, I have to say that returning 400 is wrong in this case because of the way the spec reads. Here is why i think so, the logical error could be that a relationship with another entity was failing or not satisfied and making changes to the other entity could cause the same exact to pass later. Like trying to (completely hypothetical) add an employee as a member of a department when that employee does not exist (logical error). Adding employee as member request could fail because employee does not exist. But the same exact request could pass after the employee has been added to the system.

Just my 2 cents ... We need lawyers & judges to interpret the language in the RFC these days :)

Thank You, Vish

Modelling an elevator using Object-Oriented Analysis and Design

Thing's to be Consider While Designing the Elevator System,

Elevator
Floor/Location Identifier
Number of steps
Rotation speed
Daterange
InstallationDate
MaintainenceDate
Department Identifier
AllowedWeight
Detail / Description
Poison Ratio (Statistics)
Start
Stop
SetDirection
SetRotationSpeed
EmergencyStop = Stop + Alert
EmergencyAccidentSenser Handler

Each button press results in an elevator request which has to be served. Each of these requests is tracked at a global place

The number of elevators in the building will be determined by the user. The building will contain a fixed number of floors. The number of passengers that can fit into the elevator will be fixed. The passengers will be counted as they leave the elevator at their destination floor. The destination floor will be determined using a "random" Poisson interval. When all of the passengers in the elevator have reached their destination floors, the elevator will return to the lobby to pickup more passengers

When to use throws in a Java method declaration?

If you are catching an exception type, you do not need to throw it, unless you are going to rethrow it. In the example you post, the developer should have done one or another, not both.

Typically, if you are not going to do anything with the exception, you should not catch it.

The most dangerous thing you can do is catch an exception and not do anything with it.

A good discussion of when it is appropriate to throw exceptions is here

When to throw an exception?

Convert a string to integer with decimal in Python

"Convert" only makes sense when you change from one data type to another without loss of fidelity. The number represented by the string is a float and will lose precision upon being forced into an int.

You want to round instead, probably (I hope that the numbers don't represent currency because then rounding gets a whole lot more complicated).

round(float('23.45678'))

How to convert TimeStamp to Date in Java?

In Android its very Simple .Just use the Calender class to get currentTimeMillis.

Timestamp stamp = new Timestamp(Calendar.getInstance().getTimeInMillis());
Date date = new Date(stamp.getTime());
Log.d("Current date Time is   "  +date.toString());

In Java just Use System.currentTimeMillis() to get current timestamp

Remove end of line characters from Java string

If you want to avoid the regex, or must target an earlier JVM, String.replace() will do:

str=str.replace("\r","").replace("\n","");

And to remove a CRLF pair:

str=str.replace("\r\n","");

The latter is more efficient than building a regex to do the same thing. But I think the former will be faster as a regex since the string is only parsed once.

How can I perform an inspect element in Chrome on my Galaxy S3 Android device?

Update: 8-20-2015

Please note the instructions have changed since this question was asked 2 yrs ago.

So on Newer versions of Android and Chrome for Android. You need to use this.

https://developers.google.com/web/tools/setup/remote-debugging/remote-debugging?hl=en

Original Answer:

I have the S3 and it works fine. I have found that a common mistake is not enabling USB Debugging in Chrome mobile. Not only do you have to enable USB debugging on the device itself under developer options but you have to go to the Chrome Browser on your phone and enable it in the settings there too.

Try this with the SDK

  1. Chrome for Mobile - Settings > Developer Tools > [x] Enable USB Web debugging
  2. Device - Settings > Developer options > [x] USB debugging
  3. Connect Device to Computer
  4. Enable port forwarding on your computer by doing the following command below

    C:\adb forward tcp:9222 localabstract:chrome_devtools_remote

Go to http://localhost:9222 in Chrome on your Computer

TroubleShooting:

If you get command not found when trying to run ADB, make sure Platform-Tools is in your path or just use the whole path to your SDK and run it

C:\path-to-SDK\platform-tools\adb forward tcp:9222 localabstract:chrome_devtools_remote

If you get "device not found", then run adb kill-server and then try again.

How do I compare two Integers?

I would go with x.equals(y) because that's consistent way to check equality for all classes.

As far as performance goes, equals is actually more expensive because it ends up calling intValue().

EDIT: You should avoid autoboxing in most cases. It can get really confusing, especially the author doesn't know what he was doing. You can try this code and you will be surprised by the result;

Integer a = 128;
Integer b = 128;

System.out.println(a==b);

How to create our own Listener interface in android?

Create a new file:

MyListener.java:

public interface MyListener {
    // you can define any parameter as per your requirement
    public void callback(View view, String result);
}

In your activity, implement the interface:

MyActivity.java:

public class MyActivity extends Activity implements MyListener {
   @override
   public void onCreate(){
        MyButton m = new MyButton(this);
   }

    // method is invoked when MyButton is clicked
    @override
    public void callback(View view, String result) {
        // do your stuff here
    }
}

In your custom class, invoke the interface when needed:

MyButton.java:

public class MyButton {
    MyListener ml;

    // constructor
    MyButton(MyListener ml) {
        //Setting the listener
        this.ml = ml;
    }

    public void MyLogicToIntimateOthers() {
        //Invoke the interface
        ml.callback(this, "success");
    }
}

Default optional parameter in Swift function

The default argument allows you to call the function without passing an argument. If you don't pass the argument, then the default argument is supplied. So using your code, this...

test()

...is exactly the same as this:

test(nil)

If you leave out the default argument like this...

func test(firstThing: Int?) {
    if firstThing != nil {
        print(firstThing!)
    }
    print("done")
}

...then you can no longer do this...

test()

If you do, you will get the "missing argument" error that you described. You must pass an argument every time, even if that argument is just nil:

test(nil)   // this works

Trim Cells using VBA in Excel

If you have a non-printing character at the front of the string try this

Option Explicit
Sub DoTrim()
    Dim cell As Range
    Dim str As String
    Dim nAscii As Integer
    For Each cell In Selection.Cells
        If cell.HasFormula = False Then
            str = Trim(CStr(cell))
            If Len(str) > 0 Then
                nAscii = Asc(Left(str, 1))
                If nAscii < 33 Or nAscii = 160 Then
                    If Len(str) > 1 Then

What is a simple C or C++ TCP server and client example?

I've used Beej's Guide to Network Programming in the past. It's in C, not C++, but the examples are good. Go directly to section 6 for the simple client and server example programs.

Create aar file in Android Studio

btw @aar doesn't have transitive dependency. you need a parameter to turn it on: Transitive dependencies not resolved for aar library using gradle

Read and write a String from text file

I had to recode like this:

let path = NSBundle.mainBundle().pathForResource("Output_5", ofType: "xml")
let text = try? NSString(contentsOfFile: path! as String, encoding: NSUTF8StringEncoding)
print(text)

Plot multiple lines in one graph

Instead of using the outrageously convoluted data structures required by ggplot2, you can use the native R functions:

tab<-read.delim(text="
Company 2011 2013
Company1 300 350
Company2 320 430
Company3 310 420
",as.is=TRUE,sep=" ",row.names=1)

tab<-t(tab)

plot(tab[,1],type="b",ylim=c(min(tab),max(tab)),col="red",lty=1,ylab="Value",lwd=2,xlab="Year",xaxt="n")
lines(tab[,2],type="b",col="black",lty=2,lwd=2)
lines(tab[,3],type="b",col="blue",lty=3,lwd=2)
grid()
legend("topleft",legend=colnames(tab),lty=c(1,2,3),col=c("red","black","blue"),bg="white",lwd=2)
axis(1,at=c(1:nrow(tab)),labels=rownames(tab))

Materialize CSS - Select Doesn't Seem to Render

The design of select functionality in materialize CSS is, in my opinion, a pretty good reason not to use it.

You have to initialize the select element with material_select(), as @littleguy23 mentions. If you don't, the select box is not even displayed! In an old-fashioned jQuery app, I can initialize it in the document ready function. Guess what, neither I nor many other people are using jQuery these days, nor do we initialize our apps in the document ready hook.

Dynamically created selects. What if I am creating selects dynamically, such as happens in a framework like Ember which generates views on the fly? I have to add logic in each view to initialize the select box every time a view is generated, or write a view mixin to handle that for me. And it's worse than that: when the view is generated, and in Ember terms didInsertElement is called, the binding to the list of options for the select box may not have been resolved yet, so I need special logic observing the option list to wait until it's populated before making the call to the material_select. If the options change, as they easily might, material_select has no idea about that and does not update the dropdown. I can call material_select again when the options change, but it appears that that does nothing (is ignored).

In other words, it appears that the design assumption behind materialize CSS's select boxes is that they are all there at page load, and their values never change.

Implementation. From an aesthetic point of view, I am also not in favor of the way materialize CSS implements its dropdowns, which is to create a parallel, shadow set of elements somewhere else in the DOM. Granted, alternatives such as select2 do the same thing, and there may be no other way to achieve some of the visual effects (really?). To me, though, when I inspect an element, I want to see the element, not some shadow version somewhere else that somebody magically created.

When Ember tears down the view, I am not sure that materialize CSS tears down the shadow elements it has created. Actually, I'd be quite surprised if it does. If my theory is correct, as views are generated and torn down, your DOM will end up getting polluted with dozens of sets of shadow dropdowns not connected to anything. This applies not only to Ember but any other MVC/template-based OPA front-end framework.

Bindings. I also have not been able to figure out how to get the value selected in the dialog box to bind back to anything useful in a framework like Ember that invokes select boxes through a {{view 'Ember.Select' value=country}} type interface. In other words, when something is selected, country is not updated. This is a deal-breaker.

Waves. By the way, the same issues apply to the "wave" effect on buttons. You have to initialize it every time a button is created. I personally don't care about the wave effect, and don't understand what all the fuss is about, but if you do want waves, be aware that you'll spend a good portion of the rest of your life worrying about how to initialize every single button when it's created.

I appreciate the effort made by the materialize CSS guys, and there are some nice visual effects there, but it's too big and has too many gotchas such as the above to be something that I would use. I'm now planning to rip out materialize CSS from my app and go back either to Bootstrap or a layer on top of Suit CSS. Your tools should make your life easier, not harder.

Mongodb find() query : return only unique values (no duplicates)

I think you can use db.collection.distinct(fields,query)

You will be able to get the distinct values in your case for NetworkID.

It should be something like this :

Db.collection.distinct('NetworkID')

How do I remove link underlining in my HTML email?

I see this has been answered; however, I feel this link provides appropriate information for what formatting is supported in various email clients.

http://www.campaignmonitor.com/css/

It's worth noting that GMail and Outlook are two of the pickiest to format HTML email for.

C#: Converting byte array to string and printing out to console

For some fun with linq and string interpolation:

public string ByteArrayToString(byte[] bytes)
{
    if ( bytes == null ) return "null";
    string joinedBytes = string.Join(", ", bytes.Select(b => b.ToString()));
    return $"new byte[] {{ {joinedBytes} }}";
}

Test cases:

byte[] bytes = { 1, 2, 3, 4 };
ByteArrayToString( bytes ) .Dump();
ByteArrayToString(null).Dump();
ByteArrayToString(new byte[] {} ) .Dump();

Output:

new byte[] { 1, 2, 3, 4 }
null
new byte[] {  }

input() error - NameError: name '...' is not defined

For python 3 and above

s = raw_input()

Getting a browser's name client-side

It's all about what you really want to do, but in times to come and right now, the best way is avoid browser detection and check for features. like Canvas, Audio, WebSockets, etc through simple javascript calls or in your CSS, for me your best approach is use a tool like ModernizR:

Unlike with the traditional—but highly unreliable—method of doing “UA sniffing,” which is detecting a browser by its (user-configurable) navigator.userAgent property, Modernizr does actual feature detection to reliably discern what the various browsers can and cannot do.

If using CSS, you can do this:

.no-js .glossy,
.no-cssgradients .glossy {
    background: url("images/glossybutton.png");
}

.cssgradients .glossy {
    background-image: linear-gradient(top, #555, #333);
}

as it will load and append all features as a class name in the <html> element and you will be able to do as you wish in terms of CSS.

And you can even load files upon features, for example, load a polyfill js and css if the browser does not have native support

Modernizr.load([
  // Presentational polyfills
  {
    // Logical list of things we would normally need
    test : Modernizr.fontface && Modernizr.canvas && Modernizr.cssgradients,
    // Modernizr.load loads css and javascript by default
    nope : ['presentational-polyfill.js', 'presentational.css']
  },
  // Functional polyfills
  {
    // This just has to be truthy
    test : Modernizr.websockets && window.JSON,
    // socket-io.js and json2.js
    nope : 'functional-polyfills.js',
    // You can also give arrays of resources to load.
    both : [ 'app.js', 'extra.js' ],
    complete : function () {
      // Run this after everything in this group has downloaded
      // and executed, as well everything in all previous groups
      myApp.init();
    }
  },
  // Run your analytics after you've already kicked off all the rest
  // of your app.
  'post-analytics.js'
]);

How do I convert a Python 3 byte-string variable into a regular string?

How to filter (skip) non-UTF8 charachers from array?

To address this comment in @uname01's post and the OP, ignore the errors:

Code

>>> b'\x80abc'.decode("utf-8", errors="ignore")
'abc'

Details

From the docs, here are more examples using the same errors parameter:

>>> b'\x80abc'.decode("utf-8", "replace")
'\ufffdabc'
>>> b'\x80abc'.decode("utf-8", "backslashreplace")
'\\x80abc'
>>> b'\x80abc'.decode("utf-8", "strict")
Traceback (most recent call last):
    ...
UnicodeDecodeError: 'utf-8' codec can't decode byte 0x80 in position 0:
  invalid start byte

The errors argument specifies the response when the input string can’t be converted according to the encoding’s rules. Legal values for this argument are 'strict' (raise a UnicodeDecodeError exception), 'replace' (use U+FFFD, REPLACEMENT CHARACTER), or 'ignore' (just leave the character out of the Unicode result).

How to dynamically create columns in datatable and assign values to it?

If you want to create dynamically/runtime data table in VB.Net then you should follow these steps as mentioned below :

  • Create Data table object.
  • Add columns into that data table object.
  • Add Rows with values into the object.

For eg.

Dim dt As New DataTable

dt.Columns.Add("Id", GetType(Integer))
dt.Columns.Add("FirstName", GetType(String))
dt.Columns.Add("LastName", GetType(String))

dt.Rows.Add(1, "Test", "data")
dt.Rows.Add(15, "Robert", "Wich")
dt.Rows.Add(18, "Merry", "Cylon")
dt.Rows.Add(30, "Tim", "Burst")

Count all values in a matrix greater than a value

You can use numpy.count_nonzero, converting the whole into a one-liner:

za = numpy.count_nonzero(numpy.asarray(o31)<200) #as written in the code

How can I append a query parameter to an existing URL?

Kotlin & clean, so you don't have to refactor before code review:

private fun addQueryParameters(url: String?): String? {
        val uri = URI(url)

        val queryParams = StringBuilder(uri.query.orEmpty())
        if (queryParams.isNotEmpty())
            queryParams.append('&')

        queryParams.append(URLEncoder.encode("$QUERY_PARAM=$param", Xml.Encoding.UTF_8.name))
        return URI(uri.scheme, uri.authority, uri.path, queryParams.toString(), uri.fragment).toString()
    }

How to get last inserted id?

You can also use a call to SCOPE_IDENTITY in SQL Server.

Java FileWriter how to write to next Line

I'm not sure if I understood correctly, but is this what you mean?

out.write("this is line 1");
out.newLine();
out.write("this is line 2");
out.newLine();
...

Relative imports - ModuleNotFoundError: No module named x

Declare correct sys.path list before you call module:

import os, sys

#'/home/user/example/parent/child'
current_path = os.path.abspath('.')

#'/home/user/example/parent'
parent_path = os.path.dirname(current_path)

sys.path.append(parent_path)
os.environ.setdefault('DJANGO_SETTINGS_MODULE', 'child.settings')

How to edit HTML input value colour?

You can change the CSS color property using JavaScript in the onclick event handler (in the same way you change the value property):

<input type="text" onclick="this.value=''; this.style.color='#000'" />

Note that it's not the best practice to use inline JavaScript. You'd be better off giving your input an ID, and moving your JavaScript out to a <script> block instead:

document.getElementById("yourInput").onclick = function() {
    this.value = '';
    this.style.color = '#000';
}

Override browser form-filling and input highlighting with HTML/CSS

I had to also change the text color to something darker (see StackOverflow dark theme colors).

So ended up with a hybrid of @Tamás Pap, @MCBL and @don's solution:

input:-webkit-autofill,
input:-webkit-autofill:hover,
input:-webkit-autofill:focus,
input:-webkit-autofill:active {
    -webkit-box-shadow: 0 0 0px 1000px #2d2d2d inset !important;
    -webkit-text-stroke-color: #e7e8eb !important;
    -webkit-text-fill-color: #e7e8eb !important;
}
